Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh let's go Artie,
Let's go Dolphins. Oh wait, that's next year, let's go
let's go. Hey, can I can I ask a question
right off the top as we come to you live
from the Getico Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could
save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Visit
(00:21):
getico dot com for a free rate code. Here here's
my question for the Aarntie. It's very simple one. Are
you okay? I don't know, it's just you seem on
edge today. You're worried that I'm not connected. You've never
ever ever asked if I've connected. I've ever not been connected.
At the start of the show, were you worry about me?
I was just killing time. I thought I hadn't heard
(00:42):
from you, didn't know what you were up to. You know,
I was at the mall. I'm not even lying. My
wife dragged me to the mall. It was worse, my honey,
what are you doing? I will give you anxiety? And
then you know throughout the day you're kind of sinner.
You're I think you're just jacked up. I think that's
what this is. Are you just fired up? For this
matchup or why you know I get my pick, I
have San Francisco winning, but I just don't feel good
(01:04):
about my pick. Usually I feel good, confident. I feel
better in like prop bets, like over in the national
anthem are Uh, the opening kickoff is going to be
a touchback? I really love that one. Um, then I
do in the game. I love the over, though I
wish I had a million dollars to bet on the over.
So you're okay, right there, there's nothing going on here.
You're not panicked. You weren't worried about me not showing
(01:25):
up or anything like that. You're good, right, I'm ready
to roll. Let's do this, my friend, Well, we got
time calmed down? The kickoffs? Not for another Uh? Where's
our countdown clock to the kick? What about thirty minutes
away from kickoff of Super Bowl fifty four between the
San Francisco forty niners and the Kansas Not a lot
of hype this year, you know, I gotta tell you
that we were talking about that last night. Did not.
(01:46):
I don't know if it's because both teams are likable,
or there's nobody that we hate. There's no Belichick, there's
no Patriots. There's no Cowboys. There's just just pretty you know,
pretty easy week, except for obviously what happened with Kobe Well.
I was going to say, I think that pretty much
is the reason why you haven't seen as much hype
as you typically do. I think that, to be honest
(02:07):
with you, already I agree a thousand percent. And so
I'm not trying to fight or anything when I say that,
because I think there's incredible storylines with both of these teams,
and I think they're you know, there's going to be
that proverbial kind of torch passing conversation with Patrick Mahomes.
And when Roger Goodell says what he says this week
about Patrick Mahomes and I'll play that for you coming
up here in just a bit, you realize just how
(02:29):
special and impactful he has been for the league. But
I mean, listen it, today's a day for a celebration
of football. Today's a day for a celebration of two
incredible seasons coming to ahead. But you know it's especially
with Friday Night's tribute at the Staples Center, Arnie, it's
it's hard to just say, oh, try to move on.
I mean, this is Castapaul over everything in the sports world,
(02:50):
and everyone wants to talk about it, everyone wants to
share their feelings. So maybe I'm being a little bit
naive already to say that the reason maybe you haven't
had a lot of hype and and and that hype
was maybe slow beyond Niner in chief fans to really
ratch it up, because you know, we're still trying to
come to grips with the fact that nine lives were lost,
including a legend and Kobe Bryant a week ago. I mean,
(03:12):
think about how different our conversation was a week ago. Man, No,
you're I mean, you're absolutely right. Um. I mean, you
try to go back to football, but nothing could really
take your mind off what happened. I just saw the
tribute where everybody wind up on the each omp core yardline. UM,
very touching a tribute there. I saw the game from
the Lakers on Friday night. Um, especially the pregame stuff
(03:33):
that was so um tremendous. So yeah, no, you're right.
It's always going to be in our minds for for
as long as we're here, you know, all right, So
a hundred I was listening last night some great preview
shows throughout the weekend. I was fortunate enough to start
things off filling in for Jonas on Friday night into Saturday,
a full slate of shows here on Fox Sports Radio.
(03:54):
On Saturday, I thought the straight out of Vegas, guys,
having Bernie last night and having r J today absolutely
and credible. A hundred and four million people will watch
in a hundred and eighty countries and thirty different languages.
And man, where do we start with the storylines for
this game, Arnie? Where do we start with the storylines
(04:14):
for San Francisco and Kansas City? To me, I think
this all starts with the quarterbacks, right, I mean, that's
that's my opinion. I think this starts with who's gonna
play better between Mahomes and Garoppolo. Well, I think Mahomes
is gonna play better. I actually don't think that's That's
the big question there. It's San Francisco's defense. What are
they gonna do against Mahomes? Are they gonna give him pressure? Um?
(04:36):
Are they gonna make it tough on him? Or is
Kansas City is gonna be able to move the balties
and score in like two minutes plus? And then San
Francisco there gonna be in real problems if they have to.
Roly and Jimmy Garoppolo are bringing back from behind. Yeah, no, absolutely,
I mean it's it's pretty incredible. It's pretty incredible to
think about, Arnie. How little there's been talk about Garoppolo
(04:57):
throughout this this week. But in the end, in the end,
he he can't make mistakes. I've got so many stats
that I want to get to that have been thrown
out there. I don't want to. I don't want to
bog down our pregame too much by But but real quick,
and by the way, if you haven't had a chance
(05:18):
to scroll through the thread that Warren Sharp put together
over at Sharp Football, it's absolutely fantastic because, uh, in
the storyline about let's just say Patrick Mahomes, what seems
to be the conversation from so many people about how
San Francisco should be able to stop him. Right, if
they can't stop him, day've got a better defense. This
(05:39):
is the best defense that the Kansas City Chiefs will face.
And I I have a hard time disagreeing or arguing
with that. But Arnie an incredible stat that was brought
up or at least a theory by one Warren Sharp poof,
you don't follow him. It's at sharp football. San Francisco
has not faced many pass first offenses this year as
(06:02):
a matter of fact. You know, you think about this,
We're gonna see I think, and I don't know how
you feel, just in general, I think we're gonna see
some quick strike, quick snap attacks from Kansas City here
early in the game, throwing the football, you know. And
again San Francisco throughout the season has faced some good
passing teams right in New Orleans, pretty good and look
(06:23):
what they did to them. But the forty Niners have
faced offenses ranking with the seventh highest run rate on
first down early in games. You ready, I mean I
told you I was gonna do now, go ahead, I'm
trying to keep up go ahead, alright. So so in
other words, let me let me dumb that down for
me too, can't this is And by the way, my
(06:43):
son Will Plank is listening because he has his license now,
so he's driving around, so I can help make it
a little bit more sense for my sixteen year old
son and Tulsa. Uh. Basically, the forty Niners played teams
that run early and try to run offense offense. Wait,
what's often Kansas City passes the ball sixty eight percent
(07:03):
on early downs during the first half. So in other words,
they are the top team in the league. ARNI throwing
early and throwing off and on early down. So that's
one quick key, one quick numbers kind of over analytical
thing to look for early in this game, because I
think you're gonna see Kansas City try I guess bottom
line here, Kansas City is gonna try to establish the past.
(07:25):
They're gonna throw the football, They're gonna force San Francisco
to get after him with four they're gonna get the
ball out quick. And Pat Mahomes this is from our
good buddy, uh straight out of As of Vegas, Bernie Fratto.
Patrick Mahomes versus top ten ranked defenses. He's faced them
eleven times in his career. Tonight will be the twelve.
(07:46):
He's ten and one. Defense is ranked with twenty two touchdowns,
seven interceptions, and a one oh two passer rating, which
sounds good to me. So in other words, are I
think we're gonna see the Chiefs try to attack him
(08:06):
throwing the football early on downs and often you know
what's crazy is they say you need a good running game.
To win a Super Bowl, you need a good defense,
and that's what San Francisco is. But yet everybody's picking
the passing game in Kansas City. Nobody how many times
they say, you need the defense, you need the running game. Um,
Kansas City's defense is not all that great. They they're
much better than they used to be, but they're still okay.
(08:29):
And certainly the running game is not what they have
in mind. Like you said, they want to go and
pass first. So it's it's interesting how how many people
say you gotta have a defensive running game, but they're
picking the passing team first. And also, uh, if there's
so many stats favor in Kansas City and it seems
that way and a lot of people think it's gonna
be a high scoring game, why is Kansas City only
favored by like a point and a half for pretty
(08:50):
much an even game for the for the most part
less you're gambler, Why is it like that? Why is
it not like a five, six, seven point spread there? Chris,
I I have a theory. I don't carry behind that, Aren'tie.
I think it's because they see the numbers with San
Francisco defensively, they see the talent across the front. And
I don't have to name it all out for you,
(09:12):
but you know, with Nick Vosa and the Eric Armstead's
of the of that group, they think that they're going
to be able to get pressure and make life miserable
for Patrick Mahomes. That that's why I think. So if
you've got a kind of dig to see where San
Francisco has struggled, I mean, you listen to me dork
out on some of those numbers that came out, but
(09:33):
you gotta dig to find those numbers. And I think
that there is a lot of understandable respect for what
San Francisco has done, right, I think that, And I
also I'll add this, I think the reason to spread
is so close right now, aren't Is it a pick
him yet? Has it moved down to a pick him
a one and a half? So that because I I
heard some theories from our Vegas guys that thought it
(09:55):
might shift down to a pick him by the time
we get to kick off, We'll keep an eye on
if there is any assive moves before kickoff coming up
in just a bit. But I also think there's a
healthy respect for San Francisco's running game and I think
that there's a lot of perspective out there, perception if
that's reality or not, that San Francisco is going to
have success running the football against Kansas City, because aren't
(10:19):
until the second half of the season. But this Kansas
City defense really struggle stopping the run. If they can't,
if they can't run the ball San Francisco, then Kansas City.
I want to put up at that Kansas City wins
by like two to three touchdowns and it won't be closed,
then what are they gonna do. I don't know if
they can come from behind and try to play catch up.
All with Jimmy Garoppolo, I don't think they have enough
(10:39):
to play, you know, basket for basket per se with
with Kansas City. That's just not the way they're going
to win this game. But they've scored before in the
thirties and forties, so you know, I go back and forth.
Am I gonna see a San Francisco team that can
score and and pound off twenty yard runs are as
Kansas City could have come up with those quick strikes? Uh?
I guess that's why everybody's like in the over Chris, Yeah,
(11:00):
I think you're right. I think you're right by the way,
just to kind of get you updated in Miami. Right now,
they are unveiling and introducing those who are on the
NFL one hundred team. Uh, just kind of an emotional
moment when you see all the former players out there. Uh,
guys like Barry Sanders. They showed the quarterbacks with Dan
Marino in Factor Armado l A Montana, Brady Manning. Who
(11:23):
who's got his back turn to us? Is that Archie Manning.
So there's a lot of the greats that are out
on the field right now. But Arnie, before we get
ready for kickoff and before we continue to allow me
to throw these numbers at you that might have your
head spinning, might make some sense for you. And before
we grab our first break, what did you make of
(11:44):
the Sunday morning news dump? With some I guess you
could say, interesting tidbits from Adam Schefter, the most intriguing
involving what might be the future of one Tom Brady.
What did you make of the early morning news dump?
And there's others, but let's just start with Tom Brady fascinating.
(12:07):
First of all, I always assumed that was kind of
the Patriots pushing Tom Brady out and him getting upset
and say it, I'll teach you list and I'll go
somewhere and win a Super Bowl. Now it looks like
it's certainly Tom Brady having the upper hand, because it
looks like that, according to the reports, what the Patriots
are willing to give him up the thirty million dollars
(12:27):
a year. I don't know if that means a one
year a two year deal. And now your Las Vegas
Raiders interested also, But I've always said that would be
the number one landing spot for him over let's say
the Charges and Titans. That made more sense to me
than anything else. You've got to be in hog heaven
right now. Well, I think I am. I think I am,
(12:48):
But I'm also here. Here's another quick note. I don't
know if I'm buying it right now. I really don't.
I love the idea of of Tom Brady if you
have a younger quarterback with him. But again, Adam Chefter
reporting this morning that the Raiders are poised to pursue
quarterback Tom Brady if he doesn't resign with the Patriots
(13:08):
before free agency begins and his Arnie. As you pointed out,
the rumor is that the Patriots are offering up what
a thirty million dollar a year deal to him, which
would be ridiculously good money. I don't know if the
Raiders still have Derek Carr. I don't think they can
offer him thirty million dollars. Though you know where I
stand on salary caps. I don't think they really exist.
The second note that I felt very fascinating that was
(13:31):
dumped this morning. The Cowboys are going to use the
franchise tag on Dak Prescott because they haven't been able
to come up with a new contract. I know that.
You know, if you pay attention, it's always deadline spring action.
But Arnie, the other side of that is that Dak
Prescott has basically said he may stay away during the
off season if he doesn't have a new deal done.
(13:51):
Oh that's okay. He won't hold out like uh Vian Bells.
So that's not going to happen. And it's a good fight.
It's a good financial decision for the Cowboys to do that.
They still don't want to tie up their money. They
just got a new coach. Though the new coach probably
wants to make sure your set at quarterback, But what
the heck? He'll say I'll go with the doc another year.
If it doesn't work out, we'll move on, and then
(14:12):
the third which I guess again, as far as big
time names, wouldn't necessarily be all that huge. But Anthony
Lynn was given a contract extension that has multiple years
on his contract. So after a five and eleven season,
the Chargers, from everything that we've read and seen so far,
(14:33):
looked like they're moving on from Philip Rivers, but aren't
surprised at all to see a multiple year contract for
Anthony Lynn. Yeah. They They've got enough stuff on their
plate to worry about with a quarterback problem, stadium issues. Uh,
they didn't need a coach issue. Also, probably a good
move that they signed them up. And and I don't
think it was a big surprise. I kind of thought
(14:54):
he was coming back anyway. Yeah, I don't think there was.
I don't think there was any shock whatsoever that they
decided to keep him around. But just you know, sometimes
whenever you have a bad season, maybe the maybe that
slack becomes a little bit less. You're moving into a
new stadium, maybe you want to make a splash and
try to make things a little bit more exciting. But
(15:14):
the Chargers look like they'll try to do that with
whomever takes over at quarterback. Now as we speak in Miami,
or at least on Fox, the Rock, Dwayne the Rock
Johnson is introducing everyone into I guess the final stands
is of the pregame show. I know you saw this.
I think we mentioned it. A moment of silence for
(15:34):
Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and the seven other lives lost
during the unfortunate helicopter crash last Sunday. They all stood
on the twenty four yard line as well too, So
pretty incredible moment. And by the way, as we watch this,
nobody has to be happier than to be able to
dab up the Rock than George Kittle the San Francisco
(15:56):
forty nine or tied in who is the biggest wrestling fan?
And here come the Night the Rock wasn't just doing
that on TV. They had him on the big screen
inside the stadium and he officially introduced the Niners onto
the field. How cool is that? And they're let out
by Jimmy Garoppolo. We are counting down to kickoff of
(16:19):
Super Bowl fifty four. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs making
their way into the tunnel while we're at break, they'll
take the field. Will make sure to get the numbers
going on the over under for the anthem, which has moved.
It's up to two minutes. So we're getting close to
kickoff between Kansas City and San Francisco. Should be a
fun one. We're with you until this game wraps up
(16:42):
and beyond. He's Arnie Spaniard. I'm Chris Plank. I was
Sam early on running the show. Bobo will be in
at the top of the hour lead a lap with
us all five hours, as is Steve de Sega. Right
here on Fox Sports Radio. It's Arnie and Plank, Fox
Football Sunday, Super Double. What am I saying? Super Bowl Edition?
(17:04):
Are you okay? I'm checked up? Man Hyron Matthew, eyes closed,
hands on shoulder pads. Was it God bless America that
she's singing? Beautiful? You know it's gonna get to my
and we're not gonna debate this now, but eventually will
get to my idea where we're gonna have to have
this on on home field. The fans have just been
(17:25):
priced out. Did you see it was what fifteen thousand
plus for the cheapest two tickets on stubub Come on,
it's crazy. It's funny that you mentioned that, because right
before I went on the air, I was talking to
a Kansas City Chief fan who was in Miami basically
for a couple of days and was wanting to he
(17:45):
just want to pull the trigger on buying him. But
you're right, it was thirteen grand. No, you can't do that.
You can't know, you can't listen. I love the Oakland
well now Las Vegas Raiders just can't do that. I
ain't paying more than maybe hunterbucks to go see a game,
but didn't and I'm a cheap skate. Hey, I mentioned
the Rock had introduced the starting line. Anybody? Uh? Yeah,
(18:05):
here is here George Kittle For those who don't know
Norman Oklahoma products. So I'm kind of biased towards him.
Playist college ball at Iowa. I don't know how he
let him get out of the state, but he's a huge,
huge wrestling fan, so I would almost say having this
might have him as juiced as the game from the Rock.
This is what it sounded like. Oh maybe maybe Champion himself.
(18:28):
Allow me to introduce you to the people's tight end,
my man, George Kettle block catch a pass and the
SmackDown on your candy as kittles. Wow, so he gets
a personalized intro. Now you can say that on TV.
(18:51):
If I ever sit on that on the radio, like
twenty years ago, I'd be fired for that twenty years ago.
Come on, aren't we can basically get away with just
to out anything right now? I think? Uh, anyway, Hey,
we're gonna be very active on social media throughout the show. Tonight,
I'm at Plank show, Annie is at stinkin Genius one,
Demi Levado is about to sing the national anthem and
(19:13):
just uh two minutes and what did we finally close
at about two of one or something of that nature.
But it was it was wild to me since we
love all these prop bets and we're in the middle
of the anthem right now. But I had to laugh
that they started to pull some of those prop bets.
They started to pull like the length of the anthem
(19:34):
and different things of that nature because they were concerned
about number one link leaks that had come out over
the set list, and then what number two? Because they
saw Demmi Levado perform at the at the Grammys this
past week, everyone started losing their minds. On the over
(19:55):
So when they started, when they realized that, oh my gosh,
eighty war per cent of the wages that had come
in were on the over on at two minutes and
one second for the most part, they pulled him off
the board. The anthem length as I don't know if
we'll get a number here when we're done, and usually
it's debated as to when she wrapped up with Brave,
(20:16):
but the national anthem length odds were originally set at
a minute fifty six seconds. They then moved to a
minute fifty nine and at close I believe they were
at two oh one. People people are actually betting on
her to hold the Brave none longer than five point
(20:38):
five seconds. So and also one other I think it's
gonna go under right now. I started my timer about
twenty seconds late, but I'm not thinking it's going to
hit the over. UM if she hit, she looks like
she's holding Brave pretty long. She just wrapped up. Maybe
she didn't. And by the way, I don't know you
(21:00):
heard about the controversy about the Gatorade, to which UM
some places may have pulled off the board. Also well
the Gatorade. Of course, the numbers on Purple were huge,
and then all the all of the sudden at the
last minute, over the last few days, the number on
purple Gatorade. People started wagering on it like crazy, and
because of tributes to Kobe Bryant. Yeah, because they thought
(21:22):
that the I was getting to it, Artie, because they
thought that they would be. He told you what you
have on the anthem? Lee, Uh, Well, for the brave,
I counted about eleven seconds and it was well under
two minutes for the entirety of it. I told you
it was looked like it was going on there, so
she she sped it up a little bit there, so
(21:45):
under two minutes and one seconds for the first very
popular prop bet, which was the length of the anthem.
So that means Vegas are offshore accounts or whomever. They
gotta be pretty happy about that. Were you on the
over for that, Artie? Are we like the over? But
my my biggest one is the guys um from Vegas
said take the opening kickoff to be a touchback. I
(22:07):
think it's like minus one forty with all the adrenaline.
I like that one. I think I think that's a
good one there. Yep. So uh, there was a few
people that Jeff Schwartz just tweeted. The guy sitting behind
me pulled out his phone to time the anthem. He's
my new best friend. By the way, I love heads
on the coin flip. Really, what's what's got your feeling
(22:28):
that just here? How would I know it's go ahead?
How would I know? Then? Why? Why? Why are you
feeling so good about it? And I like the tales
never fails are And that's that's the sucker bet. The
good bet is to is to bat on what the
team that wins the coin toss will do. That's what
of the bets came in on pets to defer to
(22:51):
the second half eight team percent for the kickoff. And
by the way, I know that this was also a
pretty interesting prop bet that was very popular. None of
this matters because they've already mentioned names like Tom Brady
and others until the game actually kicks off, but tom
Brady being mentioned during the broadcast, Yes, eight percent of
the bets came in on yes on no? And the
(23:13):
how about this? The total times that Mike Shanahan is
shown on TV Arnie over under one point five? Which
way would you go? Oh? Definitely over seventy seven percent
of the bets came in on over. We're minutes away
from the coin toss, uh minutes away from kickoffs, so
Steve de Seger slides into the Geico Fox Sports Radio
(23:34):
studios to make sure we're caught up on all the
final tidbits and notes we need before Super Bowl fifty four.
Steve should have the kickoff within ten minutes in Miami
on Fox TV. Super Bowl fifty four. The Niners fifteen
and three this season against the Chiefs fourteen and four. Remember,
San Francisco was the number one seed for this postseason.
One each of their playoff games by seventeen points against
(23:55):
Minnesota and green Bay, and the Niners got the one
seed by regular season beating New Orleans, beating Green Bay,
beat Seattle at the end, and in the NFC Championship win,
people talked about the running game where he Mostard had
twenty nine carries in that last game, two d twenty
yards and four touchdowns. But now Tevin Coleman is healthy again.
Coleman of San Francisco practice fully this week for the
(24:15):
first time since the dislocated shoulder two games ago. Against Minnesota.
It was Coleman who had over a hundred yards rushing
and two short TVs. Kansas City was two seed in
the a f C. Do you know the Chiefs record
as of mid November was six and four. They've won
every game since then, and here we are a Chiefs
team in the Super Bowl for the first time in
fifty years. There were four NBA games today. Detroit in
(24:38):
overtime beat Denver one twenty three. Derrick Rose left with
a groin injury. The averages nineteen points per game. The
Pistons trailed by twenty one early but still won it
in ot Houston got forty points from James Harden and
beat New Orleans won seventeen one oh nine. Milwaukee down
Phoenix one one oh eight despite thirty two points from
Devin Booker, and Toronto won it's eleventh straight game, defeating
(24:59):
Chicago one oh two. Rookie Terrence Davis are the Raptors
thirty one points off the bench. Net's guard Kyrie Irving
is out at least a week after last night's Spring
knee one Top twenty matchup. In college hoops at Iowa,
Hawkeyes beat Illinois sixty five. Illinois scored just three points
in the last four minutes in the NHL wins for
Pittsburgh and Columbus on the road. Carolina won in a
(25:21):
shootout at home. Novak Djokovic took the Australian Open title
in five sets, and the winner of Gauls Phoenix Open
in a playoff is Webb Simpson. Super Bowl fifty four
in Miami. Pregame ceremonies going on on Fox TV. Guys, yep,
they're honoring some incredible veterans that are this is really cool.
(25:41):
Corporal City Walton staff Sergeant uh donas car Danius, Lieutenant
Colonel Samuel Lombardo, and the last name kind of jumped
off on me there before. He's uh, Colonel Charles E.
McGhee retired from the United States Air Force. And they're
gonna have the ceremonial coin toss here in just a bit.
By the way, fascinating side note to this, arn'tie. The
(26:04):
Chiefs and the Niners actually both started their season in
Florida Kansas City Open with a Week one win at Jacksonville.
San Francisco played Week one in Tampa Bay. The Chiefs
are headed back to Florida twice next season. They'll play
both Miami and Tampa Bay. The forty Niners for those
(26:25):
of you that are looking ahead as Bill Vanovich gets
set to flip the coin with the eight six captains
that seem to be out there right now for both teams.
But hey, I don't mind it at all, um, But
the Chiefs are headed back to Florida twice. As we mentioned,
the Niners have three very long cross country trips next
season at the New York Giants and the New York
(26:45):
Jets and New England Patriots, but no return at trips
to Florida for either way. It's tails, I'm over for
two now. I took the over in the ahem and heads,
I'm over for two. It may go. I mean, I
can't one write this whole thing and I was even
started yet. Okay, we really need to pause your feet.
You are so far ahead of everything else right now.
But there you go. So did they decided to defer?
(27:09):
So that means what Kansas City is gonna get the
football to start this thing? Is that what I'm seeing here?
All right? There you go? The uh the tail the
coin toss was tails. Tales never fails, y'all, which means
that one of the more lopsided prop bets ends up
hitting as the public wanted defer to the second half
(27:29):
at eighty two per cent. So we are moments away
from kickoff here between Kansas City and San Francisco. As
Arnie and I come to you live from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen
percent or more on car insurance with Geico. All you
have to do is go to Geico dot com. Are
called eight nine four seven otto. The only hard part
(27:51):
figuring out which way is easy. All right, let's uh,
let's go around the horn for some final thoughts. Arnie obviously, Uh,
we've We've talked about it all week long. We've picked
this game. It's been a very heavy week in the
sports world. It's been a very emotional week in the
sports world. But exciting to get some football going here
today for the final time for the one hundredth season
of the National Football League. What kind of game do
(28:13):
you expect? Who do you think we're celebrating when all
of a sudden done Well, because I'm picking San Francisco,
I think it's going to be a close game. And
just because I'm picking San Francisco doesn't necessarily mean it's
going to be a lower scoring game. I do believe
there are gonna be able to chew up clock with
some great drives. And look, the only difference is if
they win this game, they'll left the touchdowns at the
(28:34):
end of those drives. If they start something for field goals,
you won't win a game like that against Kansas City.
That's why I expect for them to have a little
bit of guts go for it on fourth down. Um,
when it's like fourth and one, fourth and two, show
that you want to win the Super Bowl. I got it.
Thirty twenties seven. I think it's gonna be like a
tie score and San Francisco kicks like a forty two
yard or at the end of the game to win
(28:55):
a thirty twenty seven. I'm going with something like that
all right. In the getic Fox Sports Rady Oh Studios
in Sherman Oaks lead the lap. Which direction are you going?
As a fan who really wished your Green Bay Packers
were here today? Yeah, it's rough to root for the
forty Niners my whole family or forty Niners fan, So
I have some rooting interests there. I'm rocking my uh
(29:16):
my gold and red flannel, so I'm rooting for them,
but I'm actually gonna take the Chiefs twenty six, just
taking the cover on that chief Alright, alright, alright, um Iowa,
Sam is in studio to start this. We're gonna get
Bobo at the top of the hour and it's gonna
(29:36):
be in So which way are you going? Sam? I
am leaning towards the Niners. I take the Niners to
win four to twenty over the Chiefs. And I know
Steve de Seger, he usually kind of he doesn't necessarily pick.
He's he's our true Switzerland, smart like me. But which
way are you leaning in this one? I love the
fact that it's been so even these past two weeks
(29:57):
with the odds because frankly it is. But as I
A did quite a matter of factly last night, San
Francisco is the better team. It's just Mahomes has the magic.
If it comes down to it, I'm picking San Francisco twenty.
But if it's like tied at the end, who would
you rather have to have the ball? Garoppolo, who's turned
it over too much this year, or Patrick Mahomes, who's magic.
(30:17):
It will be the Chief's offense to start. By the way,
since as you mentioned, the Niners won the toss and
deferred past twenty Super Bowls. It is rare to score
a touchdown the first time you have the ball three
times out of the twenty, and one of those was
the Devon Hester kickoff return over a decade ago. So
the offense has only scored the first time you've had
it twice in the last twenty Super Bowls. Wow, dude,
(30:40):
which look at you? Just sager get that from. That's
why you bet there won't be a score in the
first five and happen into the game, Then that's what
I am. I guess this pains me a lot, y'all,
but I'm kind of all in on the Chiefs right here,
and I'm going be on just say tonight's game. I
(31:03):
think this might be the start of an unfortunate era
in the National Football where the Mahomes led Chiefs are
not going anywhere. I mean, they could have been here
last year. They don't. They didn't get the ball in overtime,
right and then D four jump offside or they might have. Uh,
I just I don't think they're going anywhere. I think
they're gonna get better because they've got smart personnel, guys
(31:24):
like Brett Veach and and Andy Reid and I I've
said this a lot, Arnie. I don't know if we
could go back to what five and eighty six, if
we were saying this same thing about Dan Marino and
oh my gosh, Dan Marino and the Dolphins, they're gonna
be here forever with Mark Clayton and Mark Duper at
least that he'll be back, and they never got back.
But I just I don't know. Something seems pretty unique,
(31:47):
pretty special about Patrick Mahomes. Unless he has a major injury.
I don't think they're going anywhere for a while, Arnie.
So I take the Chiefs. I think it's gonna be
a fun, high scoring game tonight something like And unfortunately,
I think we're gonna be sitting here a year from
today and we're gonna be watching him again, years again,
maybe three years again. Pump the brakes, and what if
(32:09):
the Niners get the ground gang going, which has been
awesome in the postseason, and the Chiefs fall behind again,
then it's not your typical Kansas City game. Even though
these two quarterbacks have come back from double digits a
lot this year, they've won most of the games when
they've trailed by double digits. But this is against a
much better defensive. I need some controversy. I need like
a fifth down or something like that. It's football. You'll
(32:32):
get it. Don't worry. We'll have a controversy. Alright. The
play sixty kids, A lot of y'all, dude, how long?
So it's not kicking off at sixty eastern just for
the rect No, it's not happening there. Who those kids were?
I thought they just ran on the field. I might
get the security. It's the practice squad, Arnie. You didn't
think that. So they got a bunch of kids understanding.
(32:54):
Looks like all all representing all thirty two NFL teams.
Oh boy at the fifty yard line, pumping the crowd
up with a simple message of here's to the next
one hundred. So when we come back to the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios kick off of Super Bowl fifty four,
as we watch along with you here on Fox Sports Radio,
super Bowl Time, we're back. We're underway, San Francisco breaking
(33:22):
a big play after the Chiefs on a little reverse run.
Deebo Samuel in two Chiefs territory. What you say, Lee
thirty two? That's correct? Two yards thirty two yards on
a quick little jet sweep and Deebo looked like he
(33:44):
that ends up being an end around, looks like he
was in trouble, but ends up cutting it up field.
In the South Carolina Gamecock former guest of Ours Arnie
gets the first big play of the Super Bowl. Twelve
minutes to go in the first quarter, the Niners force
achieves on a three and out. They're already in case territory,
first and ten from the Chiefs forty yard line. If
(34:06):
you had a checklist and you're a San Francisco fan, um,
the first box would have been stop Kansas City on
the first drive on three and out if you can
that's exactly what they did, um. Check number two, get
the ball without fumbling, but you know they got it
back and then get down field and get the score.
And now they're working on box number two. Perfect start
(34:28):
right now for San Francisco as they have it on
the thirty two yard line of Kansas City. Don't you
don't see going back? Kansas City gets the football to
start this game whenever Thompson nearon. Thompson surprisingly uh took
the kick off out of the end zone, but it
didn't hurt him too much. They had great field position.
We talked about how Kansas City wasn't a team that
runs very often on early down, and they bucked that
(34:50):
trend because immediately what do they do? They ran a
little option play and had second and short, but two
little flare patterns were incomplete, including one where Boza put
Eric Fisher on skates, tip to pass or it was
a three and out? Was that the second down play?
They didn't look very confident on that play, you know. No,
the second and third down play, we're both little flip
(35:11):
passes name Williams, and neither of them look good. They
go three and out and San Francisco has now gone
from their eighteen yard line. UH with a third down
and two at the Kansas City thirty two yard line.
So a third down play coming up here for Jimmy
G and the Niners, who have got the running game
going pretty well so far. They run another end round
(35:34):
of Samuel Ardy. He's gonna try to throw it, gonna
get the first down. Here's something he was thinking about,
going to Jimmy G. I was a little ahead of
you and Mike not on third and two, My friend,
you better tuck it under and run for the first
down eleven yards Wilder. Okay, here here's Jimmy Garoppolo's first
pass was eleven yards all right, that was his first completion.
(35:54):
There is a prop bet that eleven yards obvious. Sorry,
the longer completion all excuse me? The first completion for
Jimmy g or the length of the Wilder Fury boxing match.
So which one would be longer? And so Jimmy garp
(36:14):
who by the way, Garoppolo is only one for one
for eleven yards Wilder and Fury. Now, Um, we'll keep
an eye on that if you have the over. So uh,
anything catching your eye so far? Aren't that San Francisco's
really doing what they want? Um, whether it's passing and
there you always said it's been one that doing the
end of rounds are coming up with trick plays, not
(36:35):
trick plays, but they're they're not afraid to say, hey,
we're in this too. To go ahead, keep Kansas City
back on their toes. Kansas City did stop to run
a couple of times. Um, it's gonna be third down
right now. I'm curious to see if San Francisco gets held,
do they go for them like a fourth and one
or fourth or two, or do they settle for a
field goal? But right now they're they're moving the ball
pretty easily or a pretty good right now against Kansas City.
(36:58):
So third down and long coming up a sega, what's
you got? Well? You remember when Kansas City opened with
the ball, they had a second and three and they
still went three and out. So yet again a team
starts the Super Bowl with the ball and not only
doesn't are a touchdown, they didn't get a first down
out of that. So that's usually been the case the
last twenty Super Bowls. Also, Pro Football Reference says, as
far as the coin toss, the last five teams that
(37:20):
have won the coin toss have lost the Super Bowl.
Niners won the toss deferred. Now they have it at
the twenty five on this third and ten, so third
down and ten. Uh, they get it off just before
the play clock goes off, and we're gonna have a
field goal attempt. But wait off flag flag on the
play go figure off side on the Kansas City Chiefs
(37:43):
and penalty. It's not defensive holding or anything like that.
So it will now be third, third down in five
eight oh seven to go in the first half, We're
still scoreless in the Super Bowl between the Chiefs and
the Niners. If you're just tuning in, Kansas City went
three and out on their possession. The front four for
the Niners did a good job of getting pressure and
(38:04):
it looks like was that Chris Jones on the interior
that got a little bit of a jump for Kansas City.
Frank Clark, thank you? Uh so a little off sites
to get things started, so can San Francisco will have
another opportunity here third down and five. I'll tell you
one thing that's a little bit unique. He's exactly very good.
(38:24):
One thing that is unique that is unique is there's
a new graphics package for Fox and you actually have
like a third and five logo which is much different
than you ever see. There's no box around it. There's
just the arrows and uh The Niners are the same situation.
They're gonna end up with a fourth down in five
field goal opportunity here, right, Arnie. You don't think about
(38:46):
going for it, do you? No? Not in fourth and five?
Like I said, if it was fourth and one, fourth
and two, then maybe you think about going forward. But
you get the ball to start the second half, you
certainly want to get on the board first. Uh, you
true to up a lot of clock. I think you'd
be happy to get the few going get and getting
ready to play some defense. So this will be a
thirty eight yard field goal and a three nothing Niners
lead about mid first quarter. So Robbie, Robbie Gould, Robbie
(39:10):
Gould remember and one of the Niners losses. I think
one of the side stories to this season is how
close San Francisco came to being undefeated this year. Robbie
Gold missed one of the games that they lost against Seattle,
and while his phil And kicked the game tiding field goal,
he badly, badly missed the potential game winning field goal.
But Gold here buries it and San Francisco jumps on
(39:34):
top of Kansas City three to zero field goal tweet
that just came in watching in Japan and the end
of it was out first play until the forty Niners drive.
What the heck? Wow? So if you're welcome to those
of you watching along at Japan here on Fox Sports Radio,
(39:58):
because you lost your fee, and we will do our
best to kind of keep things updated as the show
rolls on. All right, one hour down where in the
first quarter there is seven minutes at fifty seven seconds
to go, three zips. San Francisco leads Kansas City back
for more football next from the Super Bowl Bobo ners
(40:23):
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Thanks to Iowa Sam
for getting to start it as we come to you
Alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes
could save you fift cent or more on car insurance.
Visit guy dot com for a free rate quote. Chiefs
starting to move the football five to go in the
go ahead. Well, I was gonna say the homes settled
down a little bit. Didn't look mahomes type in the
(40:45):
first drive. But now we've settled down. I got Kansas
City in the right direction. They've crossed the fifty and
they're they're moving the ball against San Francisco right now,
and they're they're they're really getting big chunks of yardage
at this point, second down and one, they've got it
right now at about forty one and a half yard line.
It's three zero San Francisco and a big run from
(41:06):
who's that Damien Williams all the way inside the thirty
down to about the twenty eight yard line. Kansas City
is already mentioned moving the football, but they've got the
deaficit because San Francisco got the ball rolling in their
first possession. Show the shotgun us check to was left.
Coleman right, it's a d a round reverse coming to Dabo.
(41:26):
Samuel mclinchley out to block on Greenland Debo down the sideline,
and Debo is out on the chap forty yard line.
It led to this. Skyle Nelson will snap, Mitch Wishnowski
has it down right footed, kicker right hash market and
Robbie Gold has it right down the middle, a little
bit inside towards the left, upright, and Robbie is true
and in the Forts do score first. Here in Super
(41:48):
Bowl fifty four, we have seven fifty seven to play
at the opening quarter, forty niners, three chiefs, not the
scrag Papa and the San Francisco forty niner radio network.
But Artie, as you mentioned, now, this drive has kind
of been more chief As Kansas City went three out
on its first drive, Nick Bosa was getting tons of pressure.
(42:11):
They were pushing back the chief offensive line. But as
it stands right now, this is kinda I'm not kind
of this is exactly what we expected from Kansas City
whenever this thing kicked off, I was gonna say no
surprises so far. UM. I think we saw a little
bit of San Francisco flexing their muscle defensively when they
held Kansas City without a first out in that first possession.
(42:32):
Then you saw a little bit of the San Francisco offense,
including running the ball as they do so well, UH
to get third field goal. And now you see that
Kansas City and Mahomes doing what they do best, and
that's a wide open offense passing the ball, and now
they're in um at least field goal range on this
series right now. Good point by Isaac who hit us
(42:54):
up on Twitter at Stinking Genius Swan at Plank Show.
He writes on the Big Reverse watch the honey Badger
Tyranne Matthew made a touchdown saving play. He stayed back
instead of charging the run. If he comes up for
the run fake, he doesn't have that angle to tackle.
Samuel may have saved Kansas City four points by that,
not a touchdown, just a field goal. Heck, it might
(43:16):
not matter with the way Kansas City is moving the football.
UH and Mahomes finally brought down right around what the
line of scrimmage, so that may actually be credited with
the sack for the forest Bodner there. But that's the
best pressure they've had so far for San Francisco. Bobo
reports he's exactly right, it's gonna be ruled a sack.
I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm on the wrong
(43:37):
end of that over under. I thought it was gonna
be a very high score game. Still obviously plenty of time,
there's about two and a half minutes left in the first,
but they're not off to a big scoring barrage. Plus
the way San Francisco is able to take time off
the clock, I'm not so sure they're gonna be able
to reach fifty four at this point. Well, I will
say this, Unfortunately, I have watched a lot of Kansas
(43:58):
City Chief football, aren't It does not take them long
at all. Score. But but the one thing that has
been pretty impressive so far, and I think kind of
in my little mini X and do mind, is Kansas
City is gonna have it third and eleven here the
numbers on mahomes early not grade five and nine for
forty yards. But if there's one thing early that's really
catching my eye. San Francisco is able to get pressure
(44:23):
with their front four. They're they're doing a nice job
of of not having that. They've run a couple of
blitz is here that created problems, but they're doing a
nice job of being able to get pressure with their
front four. Let's see what happens here. Third down and eleven,
there's two twenty two to go. Chiefs very much in
the red zone. This wid to be kind of unique
if they don't more touchdown here, because I don't know
(44:44):
how often I've even seen Kansas City's kicker. And it's
not gonna matter because Mahomes gets the first down. But
oh my, I'm sure he did get the first dowb
a matter of fact, mark where he fumbled. Yeah, he
fumbled and the ball went from a first down back
words to fourth and one. Not at least I think
it that I have to see if his knees down
(45:06):
down his knee is not. He got rocked. He easily
had the first down, and as he was going down
to slide, it wasn't. It was a good clean hit,
I thought, but as he was going down to slide,
the ball was fumbled backwards, which would not give him
the first down. So there's a time out on the
field because of the injury award. But Arnie, what a hit.
(45:29):
If that's a regular season game, they throw a flag
on that him getting hit on the slide or no,
they don't do that. I thought it was a pretty
clean hit. I really did. I don't know. They protect
the cord then if it's even close, Chris, they'll throw
the flag on that. Yeah, I think that would have
been a tough one to throw because it looked pretty
clean up. He would have led with his helmet into
(45:49):
him than maybe, But they've got it marked right now. Um,
they've got it marked right now. And I think about
the the five yard line as they check on jim Award,
what do you see to say, Yes, Day threw the
bean bag at the five, so, as Arnie said, would
be a yard back, not a first down. And its
Ward who delivered the hit who is down. So it's
an injury time out for Jimmy Ward, who, by the way,
(46:11):
at five eleven delivered that hit on the quarterback and
the ball went flying at abound. You mentioned the numbers
not great for Mahome's early It is at least spread
out as they're finally getting going on this drive in
the first quarter. Tyreek Hill has twenty yards receiving today,
Travis Kelsey twenty yards receiving today, and Damian Williams twenty
eight yards rushing for carries. By the way, call your
(46:33):
shot now, if it is fourth and one from the five,
do you kick the field goal to tie it up?
Or do you say no, no, no, we're in a
twin it we're going for the touchdown. Kind of different
when you're down three nothing in this position right now.
It is. But Andy Reid, I'm sure is thinking, my goodness,
I've seen this offense in this postseason just kill on
six seven straight drive, So why not go for it
(46:55):
and maybe we can pin back Garoppolo? Do you running passing?
I don't even know what the so far this drive
and they've been running the ball a lot more. Remember
the big run the last game for Patrick Mahomes. That
was the key play of the game when he who
had over fifty yards rushing in the games, had that
sideline run. He went twenty seven yards and didn't go
out of bounds and scored the touchdowns. He had over
(47:16):
fifty yards rushing plus nearly three receiving in that game,
and I think on this drive it to twelve play
seventy yard drive as it stands. Now, we'll double check
where they're gonna mark this. But I'm sorry, I'm gonna
try not to laugh at commercials, but this one's really
really funny right now. Yeah, that's the tough part of
doing the show, trying to keep up with the commercials,
you know what I mean. It's tough. Spike, can he
(47:40):
have ball? It is going to be fourth and one now,
so I don't know if they looked at it or
if there was a challenge. He really didn't go into
the slide. So it was a good hit and it
was a fumble, so um, good call by the officials.
Fourth and one. I don't know what they do at
this point, Chris, but it'll be interesting to see what
Andy Reid wants to do. It was certainly not a
hit in the head. It was clean. It was just
(48:01):
the hitter got hurt and so we had a delay.
So his return awards is questionable. Look at that camera
right on the down marker to give you an idea
where this is. Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt,
aren't If you watched Kansas City this year as much
as we have. They're a team that's been incredibly effective
on fourth down. They don't do it a ton, but
the four of seven. I don't think they've had many
(48:22):
four towns this year. But you know, you're looking at
at a drive right now where they're they're running games
rolling pretty well. Oh my goodness, I don't know if
I've ever seen some sort of emotion like that. They're
gonna get the first down easily on a direct snap.
Did they get into the inst I think they're short,
my friend. Oh, we gotta do something about your feed.
This is drought. You're telling me you don't have the
(48:42):
capability to pause. I didn't say anything. You just said
that they get And I said, I think single year
in Vermont had first and goal at the one. He was, yeah,
the six inch yard line, un or they had him
in almost a wishbone formation. They twisted, gave a direct
(49:06):
snap to D'Angelo Williams. Everybody did the hokey pokey in
the backfield and about and then they stayed the ball. Yeah,
And with the play clock winding down, Kansas City has
it first in goal. Make it seven three touchdown. Wow,
good job by the interior of the San Francisco defensive line.
(49:28):
Who's getting a big push there right now? How did
he not get in there? I have no idea. Boy,
they had they had to have. We talked about the
defensive line for San Francisco and how many first rounders
there and Eric Arnstead there. But I don't think they
can stop them three straight plays from the one. Yeah,
that's just uh, that's a very tall task with not
(49:49):
only the creativity of Andy Reid, but also also when
you have a good blocking offensive line like they have
and Pat Mahomes going to get the first touchdown little
uh little speed option play to the right side. They
faked the pitch to Damian Williams and Pat Mahomes walked in.
He's flexing, and he did something that I don't think
(50:11):
I've ever seen a player have to do in the
Super Bowl, aren't As he was coming to the line
of scrimmage, he had to quiet the crowd. But I
don't know if I've ever seen that in the Super Bowl.
Defensive play by I don't know who's out there on
the corner on the flat, but you've got the hit
Mahomes and make him pitch the ball instead of going
(50:33):
for the fake in case it could be a bad pitch,
it could be a fumble. Uh, you have to make
Mahomes pay for that and punish him. It was on
the outside, never touched anybody. And by the way, converting
inside the tin going forward on a fourth down and
converting in a Super Bowl on a fourth and one
inside the tin in the last twenty five years, the
only time we've had a conversion until tonight was the
(50:56):
Philly Special a couple of years ago. And so the
Chiefs convert down a fourth and one and a couple
of plays later, score and guests, who's winning the Super Bowl?
At seven three Chiefs over San Francisco about thirty seconds
left first quarter. Oh, they're showing downtown Kansas City and
the Kansas City Live District and it's just crazy right
now with the Chiefs jumping up seventy three. Listen, Bobo
(51:16):
slid into the Geico Fox Sports radio studios during the
top of the hour to replace Iowa, Sam and Bobo.
I'm just curious we didn't get a chance to get
your take on this. I know it's kind of midstream
right now in Kansas City is up seven to three,
but has just started about how you thought and what
do you expect the rest of the way. I'm expecting
Kansas City to just take this and just run with it.
I don't think that the forty Niners have the defense
(51:39):
to stop him. I just don't. Uh, as much as
I would love a California team to get a ring
because just in the Rams are the Raiders didn't do it?
You know, Uh, I gotta say Kansas City has the
got the better shot at this one man. Yeah, and
this is the guys, the first time the Niners are
trailing in any game in the last two hundred minutes,
(52:02):
about almost a month and a half since the Forts
have been behind. I don't understand how Steve just automatically
knows all these facts, Like you'll be sitting here talking
about something. Yeah, did you know that the last time
in the Super Bowl was played on a Sunday in Miami?
This person was president? How do you do that? Steve's asearch? Not,
(52:24):
by the way, Chris, the last thing, you know, obviously
the last thing you want to do if you're San Francisco. Now, no, paddic,
don't start throwing the ball and say we've got the match.
It touched out for touchdown. Keep with your game plan,
continue to run the ball, pick up the first down,
don't don't lose your head over that touchdown. And guys,
I mentioned at the top of the hour about the
team that scores first wins the Super Bowl eight in
(52:47):
the last nine years. The only exception was the Falcons,
Kyle Shanahan's Falcons that blew actually had lost it. I
don't think they wanted it that year. I think they
were just like, no, let's just liberated, get it, I say,
led Tom Brady get one more. Which, by the way,
didn't we find out last night that Tom Brady's jersey
was stolen after that game as well too? Or was
it a game before the Great Brady Higest If you
(53:09):
haven't watched it the documentary, yep, yep. It was really good.
By like, I had Gotham Chopra on the show, and um,
he was phenomenal. I I want to see I didn't
have a chance to see it, but he I heard
it was a pretty good one. It's really good. If
he had and about to thank you to say Gotham Chopra,
I was trying to figure out, is that one of
the officers or one of the FBI guys. No No,
no documentary. He made the Goby documentary. He made this documentary.
(53:32):
It's fantastic. And by the way, the payoff for the
picture that led to people nearly brawling on radio road
this week just happened of Tom Brady because he did
his TV commercial that the picture that was on social
media was a tease for. So there you have it.
Tom Brady's ad has run in black and white with
him walking around a football field. All right, here's the
(53:52):
drive summary real quick, and then we'll get a break
and we'll get back with the San Francisco. Actually, we'll
probably get at least a couple of plays here of
this drive before we go to a break. Going drive
for casey fifteen plays seventy five yards, seven minutes in
twenty six seconds. Plays like a record for them all
year long. Oh my gosh, that's unbelievable. And if you
(54:16):
were wondering what the insanity was like, you got this, Bubbo.
You want me to play your call sprint option action
Mahomes up, Hey, dodge rights hard touchdown, Jans City Patrick
Mahomes Oh one yard touchdown run. That's the Kansas City
Chiefs Radio Network on the call of their first touchdown
(54:41):
in the Super Bowl, the first touchdown period in the
Super Bowl tonight and with thirty one seconds left, Casey
leads it's seven to three, and de Sager mentioned what
over two dred minutes. It's the first time in their
first two playoff games that the Niners have trailed in
the postseason so far, Arnie, as we get ready for break,
what do you want to see from San Francisco on
(55:01):
this drive? Um, you gotta pick up first downs. Last
thing you want to do is punt the ball back
in Kansas City up seven three with them with a
little momentum and a chance to go up by another
touchdown to making fourteen three. You gotta get some points, uh,
and you gotta move the ball, take some time off
the clock, and look, don't worry so much about that,
but at least pick up a couple of first downs.
Big pass from Jimmy Garoppolo and first down to Emmanuel Sanders.
(55:23):
They're approaching midfield as we go to a break. This
stat Patrick Mahomes the first quarterback to score a rushing
touchdown in the Super Bowl since since Joe Montana. Good
guess it was a Niner Colin Kaepernick, last quarterback to
score a touchdown in the Super Bowl. I could have
(55:44):
been here all night long and probably wouldn't have guessed
that that's when the Niner is lost to the Ravens
in Super Bowl. Job Bobo, Hey, when we come back
to the getic Fox Sports Radio studios, we'll kick off
the second quarter. First quarter has come to an end.
San Francisco trailing Kansas City seven to three. It's Arnie
(56:05):
and Plank on a Super Bowl Sunday, check it and
thirteen at their own forty one yard line. Mocharch stays
in a running back. They have a three headed monster
back there piled use check Their fullback lines up as
a split in left along with two other wide receivers. Now,
Garoppolo is a trouble fires It laid in the presses.
It set on the far side, picked off on the
(56:28):
long side line picked off? Is it gonna stand? Did
he get two feet in bounds? I think he did
a big time pick. Biper shot Brelan his third big
play of this half, and Chris Jones got the pressure
on Jimmy Garoppolo who was trying to throw it away.
Kendall and the chefs, getta pick and as we welcome
(56:51):
you back to the Guico Fox Sports Radio Studios. The
one thing San Francisco couldn't afford to do, they did,
and Kansas City made him pay almost immediately. Big pass
from Patrick Mahomes to Sammy Watkins. Kansas City has moved
into San Francisco territory there on the verge of the
red zone. But a false starts gonna push him back
(57:12):
a little bit. So a huge turn of events as
the first turnover Arnie came on, some big time pressure
from Chris Jones. Oh my goodness, the Mississippi State product
got big time pressure and Jimmy g about as bad
of a decision as you can make. Right. Well, what
I what I tell you before we went to the break,
I said, the last thing you want to do it
for your San Francisco. Don't panic, keep up with your
(57:35):
game plan, don't feel like you have to go down
the field with the ball. Last thing you want to
do is have a turnover. That's exactly what they did.
They paddocked a little bit, they went deep downfield, uh,
and they threw an interception. I'm still not sure what
this identity of this offenses right now, Deebo Samuel has
the most rushing yards. Coleman hasn't really rushed much or
you know, rush for anything. Most start hasn't carried the ball,
(57:57):
and Garoppolo's five or seven. But one of those um
completions was for what like, uh, eighteen yards and the
other one for eleven, So, um, where's the other one's going?
Are they not moving to field? Throw the ball downfield,
run ball, let's get it going. The pass from Patrick
Mahomes to Sammy Watkins was a twenty eight yard completion
(58:18):
which pushed it from the Kansas City forty four to
the San Francisco. Now we've had a full start penalty
penalty that's been match now with an off side penalty,
so we're back to first and ten. Kansas City has
it at the twenty eight yard line. Uh, they're trying
to get their receiver kind of bubble screen game going
and it's not working so far. San Francisco has defended well.
(58:42):
But yeah, I know it's kind of a captain obvious thing,
aren't he? But turnovers or what's gonna crush you? And
you cannot turn the football over against this Kansas City
Chief team. They will make you pay if you're San Francisco. Now, well,
you gotta do everything you possibly can to hold this
to a field goal attempt. Right, I'll one up you
on captain obvious. Um, I wouldn't like to be San
Francisco being down fourteen the three then all of a sudden.
(59:04):
I'm not saying you have to ban in the running game,
but you've got to throw the ball a little bit
more than you're probably hoping to do with Jimmy Garoppolo.
Being down fourteen three isn't in your DNA. So as
it stands right now, will be third and five for
San Francisco from the way. Did I say that wrong? Yeah?
Third and five Kansas City from the San Francisco twenty
three yard line. What's been surprising so far? Yeah, Patrick
(59:26):
Mahomes has thrown the ball eleven times. He's seven of
eleven for seventy yards. But the running attack has been
used so much here early by Kansas City. Six carries
for thirty five yards for Damian Williams. Of course, Mahomes
has the what one two yard touchdown run whatever it
was officially listed at it was, it was a one
yard touchdown run and now Kansas City is gonna have
(59:49):
yet another decision, AREN'TI? Or boy? Yeah, it looks like
it's gonna be fourth and inches, maybe fourth and one.
They're up seven three, they're in field goal range. Do
you kick the field goal? Go up and three? I
think Andy Reid's like, let's go for it. It It looks
at least his body line which is telling me they're
gonna go for it, and that's what they're going to do.
I think this is the right call here. Sammy Watkins.
(01:00:10):
That third down in five pass was a beauty to
Sammy Watkins. He was tackled just short of the first
down marker as he extended the ball. It actually came free,
but he was down. So on fourth doubt. Oh big
play here early in this game. Eleven eleven left. Uh
Mahomes has killed the play, so they've audibled here with
(01:00:30):
five on the play clock, and oh my gosh, what
a beautiful pitch. They're gonna get the first down easy
on a run to the outside to Damian Williams. So
how about that from Andy Reid? Arnie down conversions already
in this game, and that's what you're supposed to do,
and damn if you do, damn if you don't. I
just scolded San Francisco by not going after Mahomes on
the pitch. You gotta make him pitch. What do they do?
(01:00:52):
They go after Mahomes, they made him pitch, they pick
up the first down. So um either way, but at
least they got their looks at on on Mahomes on
that play. I was gonna say that's one thing to
keep an eye on a San Francisco does. As it's
not first down Kansas City at the sixteen yard line.
They're kind of shuffling their personnel around a bit to
go in this first half. For those watching along, we're
at the ten thirty mark now here in the second quarter.
(01:01:15):
But Arnie, it's been kind of interesting to see how
many good shots that San Francisco has actually had on
Patrick Mahomes so far. He had the big hit near
the goal line, and then Nick Boza as the first
down passes in complete, Damian Williams was wide open, but
he didn't know the ball was coming. Um, that was
a pretty good hit on Nick by Nick Boza on
(01:01:37):
Patrick Mahomes too, I mean the one on the ball. Well,
that's the first big hit that they had on him.
The second big hit was on the play where he
hits the quarterback and they get the first down on
fourth down. That's two big hits on Pat Mahomes. So
is al Davis once said the quarterback must go down,
he must go down hard. Credit San Francisco. At the
(01:01:57):
very least, they're getting their licks in on Mahomes here.
Rely on Well, he'll have plenty of time to rest
up to this one. It's calling out all the stops.
He'll take the hits um and certainly looks like he's
going to be running the ball a lot more in
this game than maybe he's used to it. Certainly they
need him to pick up those first downs on third
and seven, third and eight, and this is a critical
time of the game right now for San Francisco. Third
(01:02:19):
and seven, they've got to come up with a stop here,
can't get down fourteen three, Yeah, seven to three right now,
Kansas City leads. It's third down and seven on the
San France thirteen yard line. This is the eighth play.
It's a seven play forty three yard drive so far,
eight play forty three yard drive and a big opportunity
here for the forty Niners defense to try to shut
(01:02:40):
down San Francisco, and they force and to shut down
Kansas City, and they force an incompletion. Looked like they
were trying to force something to Darwin Thompson and Arnie.
Suddenly you go from worrying that you're in big trouble
after the big pass play to start this series, after
the fourth down conversion, to your defense standing strong in
the red. They're doing a good job again of getting suppressure.
(01:03:02):
Another hit on Mahomes and you're forcing a field goal
attempt if you're going to turn the ball over, which
unfortunately happened to San Francisco. Outside of forcing a three
and out stinking genius, you couldn't ask for anything better
than getting your first opportunity to see Bucker out there
to try to kick a field goal. Yeah, you know again,
don't panic if you're San Francisco, continue with your game plan.
(01:03:23):
Doesn't matter if you're down ten to three or whatever
it is, um you know, just go ahead and continue
to run some clock here. It's really kind of working
out Kansas City only with ten points less than ten
minutes left before halftime. So again, keep it going, keep
that clock moving. But you can't go ahead and have
interceptions like that with Jimmy g that's being captain obvious
(01:03:44):
and get the ball the most start. How come he
hasn't touched the ball. I don't know what's going on there. Well,
keep in mind too Mustard, it is not there go
to back but in Tevin Coleman's back out to the
shoulder injury. But I think I think this is gonna
be the drive Arnie where you start seeing him more
great fig camera work by the Fox camera crews and
catching Robert Salo with the big fist pump after the
(01:04:06):
force and completion on a third down. Harrison Butker did
indeed drill drill the field goal. It was thirty one
yards and with to go in the first half. Kansas
City leads San Francisco ten to three. Right now, our
fearless leader, Steve de Sager slides into the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios with an update on everything going on
in the world of sports a Super Bowl fifty four.
(01:04:27):
What's up, Steve? It is a casey ten three lead
in the second quarter on Fox TV. You mentioned Patrick
Mahomes earlier with the one yard touchdown run. Daniel Jeremiah,
a great analyst, tweeted out after that running the option
on short yardage is stealing in the NFL because nobody
defends it properly. End quote. We also mentioned earlier in
(01:04:47):
the show Last Hour, where if it gets to be
a close game, which most people think it is, and
you choose between these two quarterbacks, of course you would
take the magic of Mahomes. And I mentioned because of
all the turnovers of Garoppolo, he threw that interception a
gift to k C. Whereas one NFL writer put it,
you can't make that throw in Week one, much less
in a Super Bowl. A p said. For Garoppolo, that
(01:05:11):
was his twentieth turnover in nineteen games this year. So yes,
that's been a problem, and yes people have emphasized it
a lot. He's barely had to throw because the running
game has been so good this postseason. If they need
him to throw, is he going to do that again?
I'm glad you mentioned Arnie about Deebo Samuel because they
did gi him a couple as a wide receiver, a
couple of carries on that first drive thirty nine yards
(01:05:33):
rushing for a receiver. Already the Super Bowl records forty
five yards for a receiver Percy Harvin, so something to already.
Keep in mind there and remember the Chiefs fell behind,
and of course their offense comes back. Chiefs went three
and out on the opening drive tonight. They went three
and out just twice in the regular season on the
(01:05:54):
opening drive, and now all three playoff games they've gone
three and out on opening drives. And it doesn't matter
because it's Kansas City ten three in the lead in
the second quarter. By the way, the Chiefs with that
long scoring drive that Mahomes capped off. The last time
we had a fifteen play scoring drive fifteen or more
was the Falcons a few years ago, so it is
fairly rare. It is a lead for Kansas City, field
(01:06:16):
goal for Robbie Gold, field goal for Harrison Bucker, and
then I mentioned Mahomes capping off the fifteen play scoring drive.
NBA there were four games. Toronto won it's eleventh game
in a row oh two over Chicago. Rookie Terrence Davis
of Toronto had thirty one points off the bench. Nets
Gard Kyrie Irving by the way out at least a
week with a Spring the College Hoops Top twenty matchup,
(01:06:38):
but Iowa went to the Hawkeye sixty five over Illinois
Webb Simpson took the Phoenix Open in a playoff. Novak
Djokovic won the Australian Open in five sets. The Chiefs
remember trailed Tennessee by ten points late in the first
half of the a f C Championship, but one at
thirty four. The week before that, they trailed Houston twenty
four nothing but beat him fifty one thirty one, a
(01:06:59):
mere three nothing deficit early nothing for this offense. Ten
three Ksey second quarter. Back to you, thanks Steve, as
we come to you live from the Geico Fox Sports
radio studios. It's easy to say fiftent or more on
car insurance with Geico, go to Geico dot com or
called eight nine seven auto. The only hard part is
figuring out which way is easier. I will say this
(01:07:21):
as San Francisco will start first and ten from their
own twenty and uh, well there's your boy. Moster doesn't
feeling too good? Yeah, feeling too good? Right? Uh second
out of ten. But but I will say we are
seeing some wrinkles from both of these coaches. Early on, Arnie,
we we saw the what it's Steve called the hokey
pokey that the Kansas City Chiefs did on their goal
(01:07:42):
line situation, that fourth down situation, and then you're seeing
a lot of unique motions here from Kyle Shanahan where
they're putting debot just about everywhere. I mean, he looked
like he was an Arena Football League player in motion
on that last play. But so far, in one of
the more shocking stats, Kansas City is leading the rushing
battle fifty two to forty seven, and again most are
(01:08:06):
not well. Actually, he turns the corner and ends up
with a nice little game. So San Francisco is gonna
be close to if not get a first down their
first first down on the ground. Is that right? So
ten three to go, I would say, Aarnie, that's the
biggest surprise to me so far in this game is
just to see how Kansas City has truly committed to
the running game. Yeah, you know that. I don't know
(01:08:27):
if that's exactly playing in the San Francisco's hands because
that will take off some time on the clock also,
and as long as San Francisco keeps it close until
the fourth quarter, then obviously it's anybody's game. Uh, San
Francisco is going to go ahead and get the running
game going. There's no doubt in my mind. Like I said, here,
uh they can tie this thing up and next thing
you know, Uh, it's a ten ten game in Kansas City.
(01:08:49):
Looks like they've played better and run by Deebo Samuel
by the way, to get it out to the forty five,
you're online near midfield just like that, going to break
the record for rushing yards by a receiver, now, thank you. No,
that's a pass. That's a pass. Yeah no, it was
just a little that little kind of jet sweet pass
(01:09:10):
that they used quite a bit. So that'll make Jimmy
G's numbers look a little bit better. And by the way,
great film work and camera work again by the Fox
crew who catches George Kittle out absolutely destroying one of
the Kansas City chief defensive backs trying to make a
play on it. So this is if you're a San
Francisco forty Niner fan right now where you were in
(01:09:30):
misery when Jimmy Garoppolo through the interception, you've got to
start feeling a little bit better because they've started to
use mos dirt. They're getting the running game going and
they've picked up their third first down already on this drive.
And Rahi Moster look at spins the football after getting
the first down and after not seeing much of him
on the first few drives, Arnie, here's that identity. This
(01:09:51):
is what you've been waiting for. What San Francisco's identity?
Power run team? What have we not seen so far?
A lot of power run? What have we seen this drive?
They're running the football like we know they're capable of running.
You're right, I said, what is their identity? So far?
We don't know. Well, now we know they've gotten back
to who they are. Power rushing. We said in Kansas
(01:10:12):
City stopped that rushing game. We didn't think they could.
And then look right now, like Kansas City can stop
that rushing game. Tavin Coleman, who missed a majority of
the NFC Championship game after a shoulder injury, wearing a
harness tonight, according to Jay Glazer, breaks off a big
run for San Francisco. He's all the way down to
(01:10:32):
what the twenty six yard line, so San Francisco looked.
Seventeen yard run by Tevin Coleman. Four carries now twenty
four yards for Coleman. For the five plays so far
on this drive for San Francisco, four of them have
been running plays, and technically the fifth was lack of
running play because it was at jet pass. And by
(01:10:53):
the way, if just taking a look towards the second half,
you would think that this is gonna wear down Kansas
City's defense the way they're doing that power running game,
and you think close Kanda City's defense is gonna be
coming out tired in the second half, I and San
Francisco's clicking, Arnie. They get Deebo Samuel the football on
a quick slant, easy pass to get Jimmy G's confidence
back going. Good job on the route by Deebo Samuel.
(01:11:16):
He pushed forward to the fifteen yard line in eleven
yard completely did you see the guy cooking? That lead
to lap our producer gave us Um saying that Jimmy
Garoppolo on drives following interceptions this season thirty six, thirty
nine four in your nineteen yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions
and a one point five pass already not through shabby.
So what you're saying, Arnie, and that's courtesy every buddy
(01:11:39):
Josh Dubo from the Associated Press, is that Jimmy G
has been pretty good after interceptions and we are tied
down Niners on an out pattern to Kyle Juice Chick. Wow,
I think I had him score the first touchdown. Wait
a minute, dude, I think that would be a big
time money right here. Now, are you still worried about
(01:12:02):
your over? I mean remember I was three nothing light
in the first before Kansas City got their touchdown. I said, Wow,
that looks like it's going over right now. Now it's
it's the extra point pending. We could have twenty points,
but still even another touchdown doesn't get only put you
halfway there? How about that? So Jimmy g then I'm
(01:12:22):
gonna do this math in my head. So with that
touchdown pass, if I'm not mistaken on that drive, it
was a it'll end up being a seven play eighty
yard drive. I think you had what three passes on
that drive, So that means after interceptions in in the season,
he is now thirty nine forty two for about four
(01:12:46):
fifty and three touchdowns with way to bounce back. Oh
my goodness, a Rick and Morty commercial. My night is
made sixty want thank you very much with the update.
I tried to guess it. It was like four twenty.
I was way off. Arnie. If you're a Niner fan,
You've got to be on cloud nine right now as
we come to you live from the Geico Fox Sports
Radio studios, because you're you're thinking to yourself when this
(01:13:10):
game is seven to three and Jimmy g throws an
awful interception that you're in danger of getting maybe housed
because in Kansas City HiT's a big pass on the
very next play, they're already nearing the red zone. You
gotta give some credit to the forty nine or defense
who stepped up in a big way got the football
back after just a field goal, which doesn't happen very
(01:13:33):
often to Kansas City where they're held to a field goal.
And now here we go with five oh five to
go in the first half and this game is tied
at ten apiece. What an answer by the San Francisco
forty nine if you're gonna look at the first big
turning point of the game, that could be it, as
you mentioned, instead of you know, going up and and
and beating yourself up fourteen to three, settled for the
(01:13:53):
field goal, it goes ten three and they're able to
tie it up. By the way, with odds right now,
they say Kansas City is still with a fifty nine
point three percent of the fifty nine point three percent
chance to still win this game. Here is the call
on the San Francisco forty nine or radio network of
the game tying touchdown from Greg Papa first and cent
fifteen yard line, Garoppolo under center, stretch, handoff, now a
(01:14:16):
boot They roll Garoppolo right, throws and it's caught by
Carl Yours Jack breaks a taco touchdown. S fran Cisco
feels great, baby, What an action there to Kyle use
check They faked the stretch going left, a boot right,
and they hit the full back and the flat for
(01:14:37):
a touchdown. Hardest thing for me is to see a
dude's name that starts with J and not once to
pronounce the jay. Kyle us Chick with the touchdown, forty
Niners tie the game at ten uh oh. By the way,
that's I think, what the second year in a row
that we've had a touchdown by a fullback, not to
shock make fullbacks great again, And here we stand approaching halftime. Well,
(01:15:01):
what am I saying? Five oh five to go in
the first half? Plenty of time when we come back
to the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. How will Kansas
City answer. This is did be a great start so
far to the Super Bowl, and it's been fun watching
along with you with Arnie Spanier. I'm Chris Plank on
Fox Sports Radio. Two minute warning, I really miss anything.
We're tired you did spoiler or what Mr Peanut died
(01:15:25):
and they brought him back? It was it a male
or female baby peanut? Because I bet that it was
gonna be a male peanut. I will say I have
some concerns about their hashtag. Did you guys happen to
see what their hashtag is? Hashtag baby nut? I don't,
I don't. I don't know how to feel about that,
but it's out there. And I'll add this watching the commercials,
(01:15:46):
I don't remember them being this enjoyable without sound in
a long time. Jonah Hill leaving Martin Scoa on Red Aquamans,
some skinny hipster that's bold and Mr Peanut, Mr Clean
and a kool Aid man at his funeral ol. Then
suddenly there is a baby peanut that's sprung out. So
(01:16:07):
back to football. Chiefs are driving. They have it at
the forty six yard line and oh my goodness, I
don't know if I've seen a play go as south
as that second down and eight play just did. But
they tried to run the reverse and Arnie the San
Francisco defense feeling it a little bit. That had to
be at the very least. What a five six yard loss? Yeah, yeah, kiss,
(01:16:32):
and I don't talk about the band. Keep it simple, stupid,
And now you've put yourself in a third and fourteen
when you were moving the ball and getting positive you know, yardage,
Now you may be in a position to where you're
not gonna get any points out of this thing. This
is a six play, twenty nine yard drive. This will
be the seventh play of the drive. Kansas City will
snap it in their own territory. What was that? Just
(01:16:52):
one of six so far on third downs for Kansas
City third and fourteen in a tie game. Uh boy,
they're setting up a screen. Doesn't look like it's going anywhere,
and it won't. So here's an important part. If you're
San Francisco, do you just want to go ahead and
run out the clock and going tide at halftime? Know
when you're gonna get the ball to start the second half.
And he's like, let's try to get the field goal.
Go up by three, and we get the ball to
(01:17:14):
start the second half. Man, you gotta give a lot
of credit to Robert Sala and this San Francisco forty
nine defense, because defense, because they were all it looks
like they're gonna let the clock run out because they're
not even trying to call a time out before Casey
punts it here, uh As coal Quit will make what
is this his first appearance is the first punt, no second,
(01:17:34):
second punt of the night. But I mean, let's go
back and we're gonna check in with Dan Buyer during halftime.
But you're looking at a situation, aren'tie to where Kansas
City had just forced the first turnover of the game,
and they're moving The Chiefs are moving the football and
(01:17:55):
I don't know, maybe we'll find out later if there
was an adjustment that was made, if they maybe drop
someone else in coverage, whatever it might be. I mean,
this has been almost a completely different world for San
Francisco defensively since Jimmy g turned the ball over and
now they're gonna have it on their own twenty yard
line because well, because Pringle couldn't get the ball out
(01:18:17):
of his hands, he had a perfect set to maybe
pin San Francisco deep and couldn't bat the ball back,
So uh, touch back first and trom the twenty yard line. Yeah,
one O. Way did you mentioned you still have three
time outs? I would set up maybe a short you know,
do a screen, see if you get positive yardage or
continue to run the ball. But if you run the
(01:18:38):
ball on first down and you don't get positive yard
and you're pretty much done for any you know, type
of chance of getting it together and try to get
a field goal. I like that idea. I like that idea.
You know, maybe maybe you run a couple of plays
with mostart and if you end up picking up chunk plays,
you get fifteen. You get twenty yards here if you're yeah,
you're pushed out to the forty yard line, maybe thirty, thirty,
(01:18:59):
forty Why did I say thirty six, the thirty five
or the forty yard line? Then suddenly you think, okay,
all right, we got something going here. I think you
hit on something last drive for San Francisco and what
their offense was doing that I think is gonna be
fascinating Arnie, because there were a lot of hands on
hips and a few slumped over d Lineman for Kansas
(01:19:22):
city on that last drive because they could be a
little gassed with the physicality of that San Francisco forty
nine Ers offensive line. And remember Jay Glazer alluded to
that in the pregame. The Chiefs decided not to activate
you know, La Shawn McCoy shady was not activated tonight
because they wanted to have a little bit more depth
(01:19:45):
on their defensive line. So that's something to keep an
eye on as this game progresses, because you're starting to
see San Francisco get things going with their running game. Uh,
the time of possession surprisingly is six minutes in favor
of as a city right now, but but it does
look like the more tired d is that San Francisco
(01:20:07):
defensive line. All Right, we're heading towards halftime. When we
come back to the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios, we'll
see the San Fernan try to score or do they
get out and get to halftime and kick off the
second half and look to take the lead. We are
tied up at ten. It's half where we're inching towards
halftime of Super Bowl fifty four with Arnie and Plank
(01:20:28):
called Fox Sports Radio, Oh my goodness, Somewhere in New
Orleans Saint fans are yelling at the TV. You know,
I I think it was a good call. Let's tell
what happened. Let's tell what happened. Uh. First of all,
you gotta go back a little bit, back up, a
little bit back up, because we are at halftime. The
game is tied at ten between San Francisco and Kansas City.
(01:20:51):
San Francisco seemed happy to just kneel on it and
take it to halftime. Essentially, they ran to running place.
Then on third down they hit a big pass play.
Uh quick little slip out by mos dirt. Next thing
you know, they're at midfield. Garoppolo on the very next play,
goes deep down the sideline to Kittle catches it. Offensive
pass interference on a push off that looked eerily familiar
(01:21:15):
to the end of the Saints Vikings game. Uh. Here,
when you extended, you know, it's kind of like basketball.
They'll let your hand check if you don't extend the
full arm, if you keep it a degree angle. He
extended it. He gave him the At first, I'm like, well,
(01:21:35):
that's not going to be complete that he gave himself
the push that gave him the separation to catch the ball.
I think it was a good call. I was. I
was surprised, and maybe I shouldn't be Arnie that there
was no review or anything of that nature, because you know,
you can kind of take some time to to look
over it, and yeah, I know, but I mean it
(01:21:58):
just based on how much it had been and talked about,
and based on how much it had been kind of
I don't know, debated all season long and a little
bit surprised, and maybe the replay booth didn't take a
couple of seconds to to look at that a little bit.
Right now, Kansas City has a fifty five point seven
percent chance of winning the game as we're at halftime.
(01:22:18):
I wouldn't say I feel if I was gonna start
all over with a prediction, I think I'd stay with
my San Francisco. It might not go over, but I
think I'm staying with my San Francisco prediction. I I'd
feel better if I'm a forty fan than if I'm
a Kansas City Chief fan. Right now? What do you think? No, no, no, no,
I agree. I think if you're a Kansas City Chief fan,
you're a little bit disappointed because you lament a missed
opportunity whenever. This game was seven to three and San
(01:22:42):
Francisco turned the football over, the one thing that you
thought if they did it, they'd be in big trouble.
But Kansas City only made them pay with the field goal,
and our excuse me, San Francisco was only made to
pay with the field goal because the Niners defense stepped up.
And then boy, that drop five. That drive the Kansas
City allowed San Francisco to go on near the end
(01:23:05):
of the first half was something beautiful. I mean, these
were the last plays, the last six plays of that drive.
A nine yard run by Raheemo Start, a sixteen yard
catching run by Samuel, at eleven yard run by Mostard
at a seventeen yard run by Tevin Coleman, at eleven
yard run by Samuel, and then the fifteen yard touchdown
(01:23:26):
catch catch by the juice and you your chich making
a touchdown. I mean, just a thing of beauty. If
you you know, we're obviously looking at the game, look
at the keys before the game. I think everything is
played to San Francisco exactly the way they wanted, low
scoring games. Somewhat at ten the ten uh they got behind,
but they tied it up. Their defenses figured away now
(01:23:50):
how to stop Mahomes, but maybe slow him down a
little bit. You've had the interception against you and it
really didn't cost you that much. I would say you
gotta be happy right now going into the locker room
tied to ten and getting the ball out to start
the second half. I think you're on cloud nine right now.
If you're San Francisco. Listen, if you knew that, if
(01:24:13):
you know that Jimmy Garoppolo is gonna throw an interception
that badly, and you're gonna have San Francisco or excuse me,
Kansas City hit a big play on the very first
play after the interception. You gotta be jacked right now.
You should. You should easily be down fourteen to three,
if not, maybe even worse. But it's it's ten ten
because you're defense stepped on cloud nine. Who's playing better
(01:24:34):
right now? Jimmy g or Patrick Mahomes. Jimmy has the
touchdown but an interception. Mahomes has neither of them, but
he's only averaging five point eight yards per completion. That's
not mahomes like at all. I would say maybe it's
pretty much even on that. Maybe the slight advantage of
Jimmy g Well, let's let's do this. Let's roll through
the box score. Welcome to halftime here on Fox Sports
(01:24:55):
Radio with Arnie Span. You're on Chris Plank. Maybe you've
been sent out to get more chip. Maybe you're on
a beer run right now about three hours, I'm not sure.
So for the next two hours here on Fox Sports Radio,
play football game at halftime. How about that we'll recap
the first half. Ward tied ten Letal Lapp is our
(01:25:17):
producer in the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios, Bobo and
the Wheels of Steel, Steve de Seger on updates and
all of our statistical needs that we need as we
come to you live and the Geico Fox Sports Radio
Studios where fifteen minutes could save you fifteen cent or
more on car insurance. We're gonna gonna go to Miami
coming up here in just a bit, and we're gonna
hear from Dan Buyer, who has been all over our
coverage on Fox Sports Radios. That's coming up here in
(01:25:39):
mirror moments, and we'll take you through the big plays
of the first half. Courtesy of both the Kansas City
Chief and San Francisco forty Niner Radio Networks and their
legendary play by play guys Greg Papa and Mitch Holter.
So that's coming up here in just a bit. But
you mentioned the quarterback numbers, Arnie. Here's the stats. Jimmy
Garoppolo nine of the oven, eighty nine yards, a touchdown,
(01:26:02):
and an interception in that first half, he's averaging eight
point one yards per pass and the statistically our eight
point one yards per completion. Statistically, Patrick Mahomes twelve of
eighteen a hundred and four yards, uh five point eight
yards per completion. He has been sacked once and he
has two carries for eleven yards and the touchdowns, So statistically,
(01:26:25):
I think it's it's pretty even. But you can't help
but just be wowed by Jimmy g bouncing back from
that turnover and what Kyle Shanahan diagrammed up after that.
I think we see what San Francisco is trying to
do defensively. Obviously they wanted to put pressure on Mahomes,
but they were gonna keep their safeties back. Nothing's gonna
get past them. They're gonna keep everything in front of him.
Hence that's why Patrick Mahomes has the twelve completions but
(01:26:47):
only four d and four yards. So they're doing a
good job at getting to the football and tackling. They've
had a few breakdowns, but they've done a very good job.
I never would have thought that at halftime Jimmy g
would have a better completion average than Patrick Mahomes, and
it's not even close. I would say that would spell
out right right pretty good for San Francisco. Absolutely ahead
(01:27:08):
to say, you've got something on that. Yeah, exactly. On
Mahomes during the season, it's eight yards per air attempt.
He throws down field on average, a lot more than
the average quarterback. It's under four yards air yards per
attempts so far. So yes, exactly what you're saying. And
he's going play action almost half the time so far
in this Super Bowl. And I like what our Bucky
Brooks pointed out earlier in the first half that the
(01:27:29):
Chiefs are using all kinds of speed option plays to
take advantage of the aggressiveness of the forty Niners defense,
a great defense, but also Brooks pointing out that when
you have Mahomes and his athleticism, it really opens up
the playbook too, which is what we've seen the Chiefs
at least try to do so with their offense, and
it seems like also, Chris, you know you mentioned earlier
(01:27:51):
that Kansas City on third down conversions only one for
six that that is a surprising stat to me with
this great offense. But they have gone for it twice
on fourth down and converted both of those, and one
of those turned into the Mahomes one yard touchdown run
a couple of plays later. But first half, each team's
had four drives, each team's had eleven first downs. The
(01:28:11):
game is tied at halftime, one of those rare Super
bowls where you're tied at halftime. I think this is
only four Super Bowls out of four that have been
tied at the half. So let's take you through the
big place. We've got more stats to get to, but quickly.
These were the big places of the first half, courtesy
of both the Chiefs and the Niners radio network. We
start with the big play early after the Chiefs, who
(01:28:31):
took the opening kick, went three and out. San Francisco
got the football back then got things going with Deebo
Samuel running the foot raffalo over the shotgun. Yours check
to was left Coleman right. It's a d a rob
reverse coming to Debo. Samuel mclinchley out to the block
on Greenland, Debo down the sideline, and Debo is out
on the chief forty yard line. So that led to
(01:28:52):
a couple of opportunities San Francisco wasn't able to take
advantage of. And then Robbie Gould from thirty eight yards out,
Kyle Nell, it will snap. Mitch Wishnowski has it down
right footed, kicker right, hash Mark, and Robbie Gold has
it right down the middle, a little bit inside towards
the left, upright, but Robbie is true and the forty
Niners do score first. Here in Super Bowl fifty four,
(01:29:14):
we have seven fifty seven o' flay at the opening quarter.
Forty Niners, three chiefs. Not that that was a ten
place sixty two yard drive, Arny. That ate up five
minutes and fifty eight seconds, and it was kind of
unique because we did not see Rahi Mostred very much.
But I mean, for the most part, San Francisco through
the ball more than I thought we expected in that
(01:29:34):
first drive, and then once they gave him the ball,
they didn't let up. But he ended up with the
most carries for San Francisco. UM, I think I would
have started a little bit earlier. But he looks good
running the ball to look like he did last week. UM,
five yards of pop, that's exactly what you want. So
I think they're gonna go to him a lot more
than the second half. So that made a three zero
San Francisco. Kansas City responded in a big way. Two
(01:29:58):
big fourth down converge Jan's and then Patrick Mahomes hits paydirt.
How they're bringing the fullback Sherman. They line him up right,
It's a down the line option. Mahomes will keeping himself
and I'll go in for a touchdown as he gets
off the head of Kawn Alexander on the goal line.
They've shown that action before in the game. It's a
true down the line option. He has a pitchman of
(01:30:18):
the right, but he had room to cut it up
fail take the head from Kawn and score, and the
Shapes take a six to three late here, late in
the first quarter of Super Bowl fifty four. So that
was the Niner radio network on. Obviously a little bit
of a deflated call already. How fired up do you
think Mitch Holtis was in the Kansas City Chiefs Radio network. Well,
(01:30:39):
it's out of like this. How they bringing the fullback?
That's the same one. Where's my kids? City chief one?
What happened to my kids? Doesny one I got? I
got no, I knew it was. Doesn't take him out
of time? Forty seconds remaining first quarter in the eye
Patrick Mahomes. Fullback Sherman shifts to the right. They're gonna
run a sprint option action. Mahomes pats right hard touchdown
(01:31:02):
chance on City. Patrick Mahomes oh one yard touchdown run,
his third rushing touchdown of his postseason career. That was
a fifteen play seventy five yard drive with a couple
of fourth down conversions. Kansas City took the leite seventy
three and Artie, that's where we ended the first quarter. Yeah,
(01:31:23):
you know, I saw that app. I think the first
song at halftime was Breathe or something like that. Don't
hold me to that. So I think that was the favorite.
Just had to get that out there. Yeah. I didn't
think it was gonna be this slow scoring. Um I
said before this before the show, Um, I think it's
gonna be a high scoring one. I I think a
lot of the people were taking the over fifty four,
not that it won't go over. It's a twenty right now.
(01:31:45):
I'll try to get the halftime wine. I'm kind of
curious to see what it's gonna be uh in the
second half and if Kansas City is also gonna be
that slight favorite. Now. The big play to start the
second half was well, a little bit of a bad
break for Jimmy Garoppolo le Chick. Their fullback ings up
as a split in left along with two other wide receivers. Now,
Garoppolo is a trouble fires it light in the classes.
(01:32:06):
He said that on the far side, picked off on
the l sideline, picked off? Is it gonna stand? Did
he get two feet in bounds? I think he did
a big time pick Viper shot Brelan his third big
play of this half, and Chris Jones got the pressure
on Jimmy Garoppol though, who was trying to throw it away.
(01:32:27):
Kendall and the Chiefs gonna pick. You know what's crazy
is I didn't realize how close Brelan came to stepping
out Arnie on that interception he got because he was
reaching up, he got one foot in and kind of
as the second one came or what ended up being
the third step came down, he was out, but he
had already got one of his first touches in, so
that was a little bit closer than I thought it
(01:32:48):
was the naked eye. But that's the moment to me
where this whole game turned, because San Francisco's defense was
able to hold the Chiefs to a Harrison Butker thirty
one yard field goal that made it into three, and
then San Francisco answered in a big way on this
touchdown pass by Jimmy Garoppolo first and sent fifteen yard line.
(01:33:08):
Garoppolo under center stretch, handoff, no a boot. They roll
Garoppolo right throws and it's caught by car Rs. Jack
breaks a tackle, text down sad friend, Cisco feel great baby?
What an action there to Kyle use check. They faked
the stretch going left, a boot right, and they hit
(01:33:30):
the full back in the flat for a touch That
all right, Artie. I want to play this same by
the way, that's courtesy of the San Francisco forty niner
is Radio Network. Can br the legend Greg Papa uh.
One more quick one that I wanted to play here
real quick. This is the offensive past interference call courtesy
of the Niners Radio Network. Garoppolo in the gun snap
(01:33:51):
was a bit to us left, he's back, gonna take
a shot down the right sideline for Kittle hit track bikes.
They over the shoulder catch the flag is down on
the plot. What a catchy made right over. Daniel soren
said to get the forty Niners in the field ball ring.
I think there's gonna be a hold on the forty
Niners right here. And it's only a three man rush
and it's Frank clark On cringing five Daniel friendly. You
(01:34:17):
know they called p I as Kittle was pushing off,
but he was playing the ball the whole way. He
had his this goes automatically automatic challenge upstairs, and I
don't know if they'll have the guts to open this
call by Bill Banovitch. I think it had no impact
on the play as Kittle was staring down the football
the whole way, hand fighting with Daniel Sorenson. I don't again,
(01:34:39):
that was a Niner radio network, as you can tell,
a little bit upset with that. But I don't know
if there's too much controversy or debate over that. Do
you think, Arnie. I know, I know SAT fans will
be all fired up at this exact but I didn't
think there was too much debate over that. No. By
the way, second half total twenty five and a half,
so all you have to do is clear forty five
(01:35:00):
to have to get the over all of a sudden
that's down a good nine the ten points from the
original number before the game. By the way, thanks to
all of our great editors behind the scenes, we'll make
sure to get names to give shouts out as this
show goes on. But literally, I mean Bobo and Lee
can attest to it. As soon as a big play happens,
(01:35:22):
they automatically have it. They're waiting for us. So well
done by the entire crew behind the scenes. We appreciated
all the editors who are spinning their Super Bowl watching
the game but then also listening to both the radio
networks and cutting it up for us. So thanks to
the radio the Chiefs Radio Network the Niners Radio network
as well too. It's fun. I think it adds a
(01:35:42):
lot and a lot of fun to this show and Arnie,
it also gives us perspective onto just how angry the
Niners Radio network was with that offensive pass interference. Yeah, you,
I don't think they should be agree. A matter of fact,
when we hear from the masses after the game, I
think most people will be in agreement. Could call you
wouldn't want them to get Could you imagine if they
didn't call that they got a field goal? Then people
(01:36:04):
would be screaming bloody murder that way. Also, all right,
let's look at some of the wild numbers when we
come back to the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs were held to less than five yards per
play in the first half for just the fourth time
with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback. The other three times versus
the Patriots in the a f C Title Game last year,
(01:36:25):
versus the Raiders in Week thirteen this season, and in
Week eleven this season against the Chargers. We'll hear from
Dan Buyer as soon as the Super Bowl halftime show
wraps up and get you ready with some third quarter
thoughts next with Arnie and Plank on a Super Bowl
edition of Fox Sports Radio. It's Arnie and Plank Fox
(01:36:49):
Sports Radios Super Bowl Sunday coverage as we watch along
with you myself. Um, yeah, I will say this much. Wait,
which off are you talking about? Not to be in
the country while you're wearing it all of them? I am.
(01:37:10):
I'm of the opinion that if the the TV peeps,
the f c C gets letters after I don't know,
say Paul McCartney or May He Rest in Peace prints,
they're going to be flooded with FCC letters to this one.
And I haven't heard a word that they're seeing or anything,
(01:37:32):
but wow. Uh. The Pepsi halftime Show has come to
a conclusion as we welcome you back to the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studios. In mirror moments, will check in
with Dan Buyer right here. Fox Sports Radio anchor also
co hosts our Red Zone Radio every Sunday during the
football season. As a matter of fact, he joins us
right now. Uh, Dan, By the way, one story we
(01:37:53):
haven't talked about that. I'm curious if you caught Did
we really have a woman run onto the field and
get tackled in the first quarter? How did we missed that?
I didn't see that at all? Was what? Am I missing? Him?
I what did I miss? I gotta note that said
security personnel stopped the woman's bid during the first quarter,
and I guess an AP photographer actually caught an image
(01:38:16):
of her being tackled by security before she made it
on the playing surface. I'm sure there's a prop bet
somewhere that that actually paid off. But hey, in all seriousness, man,
just kind of your thoughts, general thoughts. First half. I
thought we had a little bit of everything in that
first half, didn't we. Yeah, I actually I thought it was.
I thought it was great, But then again, we're comparing
(01:38:37):
everything to what we had last year, so anything could
be better than what we had a year ago. I
did think that it was interesting at the end of
of what we saw the first half and ended up
being no blood, no foul. But you know, Kyle Shanahan
not calling the time out when they forced the Candida
City stopped, could have given him a minute forty seven,
and then Kansas City kind of letting them, letting the
(01:38:59):
forty diners run out the clock, but calling a time
out on third and five with you know, was under
thirty seconds to go. I think both sides were surprised
by what the others were doing and mismanaged each of
their situation. In the end, it's still blood, go foul.
But I think that you know, there was a point
where Kyle Shannon and the forty diners may have really
(01:39:20):
missed an opportunity to do to do some damage. And guys, honestly,
I don't think the kindle passing interferences passing interference. I'm
surprised to think call that that could be the play
that we look back at. Why don't you think it
was passive affats to look like he extended his arm.
I don't have a problem with them calling that. Um
why why did you think it was a pass interference? Stand?
Because he was already I I thought he was a
(01:39:41):
foot pass him. I thought I thought he I thought
he was ahead of him, and then as he pushed out.
I don't think that there was tons of difference from
what Kyle Rudolph did at the end zone against for
the Vikings against the Saints, I thought Kittle had a step.
I don't think that at any point that late that
the late push or the extension cause the separation. I
(01:40:02):
don't think that, you know, in a situation like that,
of course you're it appears that he pushed off, but
I think that he had the step on sorens Are
on that play and and the the call I yeah,
I wouldn't. I don't think it was past interference. But
we know you can't. You know it's not gonna be overturned.
It was under two minutes. They would have had to
look at it anyway. But I just I didn't think
it was past inter apearance. Dan Buyers hanging out with us.
(01:40:24):
Dan just took in the halftime show. So what did
you think, Dan? Uh? Did? J Lo and Shakira is
still the show? Or what? You know that there's a
lot of and when when you go to a concert,
you know, if you don't always love the band, you
don't love the artists, maybe to go with your wife
because she wants to go, but if there's good energy,
you end up enjoying the show. This place went nuts
(01:40:47):
when Shakira was gone. Like it was like, I'm like,
oh my goodness, I didn't know that I knew, you know,
a couple more than the songs and hips don't lie.
But it was a it was a really good feeling.
I mean, you know, j Lo came on and dither thing,
but this crowd lost their minds when Shakira came out.
And so I think at the end, you you may
not like the music, may not like what you saw,
(01:41:09):
but Indianna thought it was a pretty good halftime show.
How's the atmosphere inside? It certainly looks like there's a
little bit more Kansas City fans than San Francisco fans. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
It seems like it's the Chief's home game. You're seeing
red everywhere because you know both teams are read. But
when you when you hear the cheers and you actually
look a little closer to the uniforms, it is a
(01:41:30):
very very pro Kansas City crowd, which you know. To me,
you look at down in the second half and going
forward here the forty Niners get the ball coming out
in the second half, I would assume that they're gonna
try to limit as many possessions that they can to
keep this crowd out of it, trying to really shorten
this game. I mean ten ten guys, I I I
don't know, but I think this place obviously pretty well
(01:41:52):
into the forty Niners hands and with them getting the ball,
and it's obviously this first possessition of the second half
as a big deal. But you keep all these spans
out of the game, limit Patrick ma Homes possessions that
you couldn't ask for anything more of your forty honors fans,
uh Dan. Final thought for me, just on the football
side of it, has there been any moment where you
maybe think a team for I thought the Chiefs defensively
(01:42:15):
looked a little shaky after San Francisco got their running
game going. But at least from afar, it doesn't feel
like anyone's had a moment that's too big for them
so far right. I mean, there hasn't been anyone that's
been overwhelmed by this moment, or we haven't seen anyone
overly intimidated by this so far right. I thought San
Francisco dodged a bullet when they held Kansas City the
(01:42:37):
three after the interception, because if you go down the
three all of a sudden, now Jimmy G's a little
rattled he was hitting me through the pick, then maybe
you've got some issues fust and using a lot of
creative ways to get Deebo Samuel involved, maybe not as
much throwing down the field, so you would have had
to have Jimmy Garoppolo do that. I thought that that
was that was a big point Chris in the game,
(01:42:58):
that to change things around. It was maybe the only
point where I thought a team had an opportunity to
take control. And then then coming out with three if
San Francisco like, okay, cool, ten three, where do they
do go down seventy five yards four minutes and the
store and even it up. But that's it's kind of yeah,
it's almost been like trading punchings back and forth, feeling
each other out. Maybe in his first half, but that
(01:43:19):
was the only opportunity. When Kansas City failed to get
seven off the I n t that I thought somebody
really had a chance to the control. Great stuff, Dan,
We appreciate you. Can't wait to hear your perspective all
week long right here on Fox Sports Radio and enjoy
the second half. Thanks for coming on with us. But
to secure a concert, you know it, you know, I
love it. I love it stand by. I love how
(01:43:40):
jacked up he was. It was funny because Leta lap
had always said, hey, he's not coming on until after
the halftime show, and I and I didn't, you know,
I didn't think of it too terribly much. But I
think Dan's pretty glad that he did, right. I mean,
he's he's pretty fired up whenever he came to that concert,
I'm just bummed out that I didn't bet that somebody
was going to run onto the field and that was
that was a prop bet, Chris, I'm not kidding around there.
(01:44:02):
That wasn't someone must to bet it, and maybe she
bet it and just wanted to have it pay off.
I don't know. Well, as we get set for the
second half of Super Bowl fifty four, we're not at
up at ten. We'll get you some keys to the
second half. But first Steve de Seger slides into the
guy go Fox Sports Videos. I think you're right, that's
probably the person who bet that be but that'll pay
for the bail. We're at ten ten at the halftime
(01:44:25):
Super Bowl fifty four in Miami on Fox TV, forty
Niners versus the Chiefs. Yes, Jimmy Garoppolo does have nine
of eleven through the air eighty nine yards, passing most
of that though in yards after the catch. As far
as the grunt offense for the Niners, which had been
superb in this postseason going into tonight, inside three carries
(01:44:45):
six yards for San Francisco when they run outside the
tackles eight carries eighty three yards so far, and there
was the big p I on tight end George Kittle,
and I agree, Arnie. I have no problem with the call,
and in fact, the official ruling from New York after
the fact was the receiver extended his arm and created
separation with the ball in the air. Therefore it is
offensive past interference. And if you look at the replay, yes,
(01:45:07):
Dan's correcting that the tight end had a step on
the defender as he's going down field. But then Kittle
starts to slow down, extends the right arm and creates
a second separation. I have no problem whatsoever with that call.
And by the way of forty Niner fans, you can
argue that offensive p I and saying that cost us
the lead at halftime. It would have put you in
field goal range. Please then bring up the fact that
(01:45:29):
your coach didn't call a time out with about a
minute left in the first half when you knew Kansas
City was about it punted to you. You played it
so safe, as our Brian Noe said, it's like you
think you have Blake Bortles at quarterback and not Garoppolo
playing it so safe in the last minute because you
let forty seconds run off the clock and then Kansas
City punted it to you, and you didn't even use
(01:45:50):
all of your time outs on your last drive, and
then you just took a knee after the offensive p I.
So San Francisco the opposite of aggressive in the final
minute of this first half. And don't forget, as far
as the ten points case has put up, they had
two fourth down conversions first half. One of those quickly
led to a touchdown. Jimmy Garoppolo's ridiculous interception turned into
a Kansas City field goal, and we mentioned the great
(01:46:12):
stat from the AP Bay Area writer that Ian drives
right after throwing a pick. Garoppolo's phenomenal this year, and
sure enough they went straight down the field and scored
their tying touchdown after the pick on the previous San
Francisco drive. Although again, let's not be fooled at how
good Garoppolo has been or not this first half. As
Pro Football Talk put it, it was a Jimmy g
(01:46:34):
proof drive that San Francisco scored on a lot of runs,
some short passes, don't let him do too much, and
then the last drive they didn't let him do anything
essentially except for that one long ball, which due offensive
p I was called back They've just kicked off the
second half ten ten San Francisco in Kansas City, NBA
Detroit won in overtime. Toronto won it's eleventh straight game.
(01:46:55):
College Hoopes Iowa over Illinois and Novak Djokovic won the
Australian opening five. Back to you, thanks Steve First inten
San Francisco deep in their own territory because on the
kickoff Richie James Jr. Brought it out of the end
zone and got smashed. He's stay actually taught out to
the sixteen yard line. We've seen that from both teams
(01:47:16):
early on. But I'm a little bit surprised, even though
they have the completion on the first down play Arnie,
that San Francisco comes out throwing it with as successful
as they were running the football. Yeah, I thought they'd
come out run it and especially backed up in their
own in their own zone. So let's give them credit.
They're like, hey, no, this is this is a super Bowl.
We're gonna win it. You can't just be conservative and
uh they put themselves in a good second and five
(01:47:38):
trying to go over some notes anything you're really keeping
an eye on here in the second half. I think
for me, personally, I want to I want to see
if San Francisco continues to uh kind of use some
exotic blitz as they've done a really nice job in
disguising them and then being able to get pressure with four.
I think Chris Jones has been incredible so far. And look,
San Francisco has committed to passing the ball here to
(01:47:58):
start the second half, Barny and they get big completions,
they're already out or they're gonna mark that the thirty
six yard line for a first down. Little jostlely uh jockeing,
jockeing between the Honey Badger and Emmanuel Sanders after that,
but man, San Francisco comes out throwing the football and
they're moving it. I can't wait to see when they
start using in how they start using Mostard more Jimmy
(01:48:20):
g Over hundred yards passing now already on the game
eleven of thirteen. What are some things you're keeping an
eye on here in the second half. Well, if San
Francisco is gonna be able to move the ball, and
that's what they're able to do, I got a feeling
that this could come down to a who has the
ball last type game here I don't think Kansas City
is going away. They're able to move the ball. Also,
uh ten ten does play in San Francisco's hand. But
San Francisco, I gotta believe. I want to see if
(01:48:41):
they're gonna continue running the ball and continue moving it,
move the clock, pick up first downs, and keep Kansas
City back on their hills defensively. That's the way way
they're gonna win this game. Deebo Samuel is now the
leading rusher in the game. His third carry goes for
fourteen yards. He now has three carries for fifty red
(01:49:02):
to be a record, you know, you know that leader
lab Steve to Sager, it's got to be closed for
a wide receiver or at least a The record was
forty five. So there you go. Deebo Samuel sets the
record for rushing yards by a wide receiver. And we
have an injury. A chief is injured down on the sidelines.
So is it Brichard Bilin. Oh that's not good for
(01:49:22):
Kansas City because he's made three big plays already in
this game. So good mix by San Francisco to start
the second half. Any they throw the ball a couple
of times and then they go back to Deebo Samuel,
the quote unquote running back, and they're moving the football.
They've got it all the way out to the thirty
six yard line already. Nice mix by Kyle Shanahan's. Yeah,
(01:49:44):
that's something they must have seen, because they're making an
effort now to get him the ball, whether it's running.
They've thrown to him four times. Um, they're like, we're
gonna get him the ball. We have to use somebody
else other than just running the ball with most start,
and that's exactly what they've done. They must have seen
something on film that we didn't notice. All Right, here's
a couple of stats for you. So far, with the
two completions that Jimmy g has had to start this
(01:50:06):
second half, Garoppolo is now eleven of thirteen for a
hundred and nine yards, a touchdown, and a pick. And
Deebo sam You'll not just the leading rusher for the
nine ers, he's the leading rusher in the game. Three
carries fifty three yards. Sam You'll also has four catches
for twenty three yards. Again, we we've done this a
few times, so I don't want to get too carried away,
(01:50:26):
but I mean he's gotta be of San Francisco continues
to feed him and keeps rolling. He's one of the
leading candidates here early early on in the second half
for what at least some m v P consideration for
NVO Samuel very possible. And I was gonna ask you
right now, as they're you know, looking at the injury,
who has the most pressure on them right now? I
(01:50:48):
think it's gonna be that Kansas City defense though Canada,
the Chiefs will go as far as that defense will
take them. If they continue to allow San Francis gonna
run the ball down their throat, They're not gonna win
this game. Of the City's defense has the most pressure
on him right now. And to be honest, since maybe
a couple of early drives, San Francisco has had Casey's
(01:51:10):
defense on its heels for a majority of this game.
Again the past interference call, and to be honest, it
was such a dime Kiddle didn't need to push off,
and then the third down past that that led to
that opportunity for San Francisco late in the first half.
I mean, Arnie, I'm I'm with you. I think it's
Kansas City's defense that's very much kind of on the
(01:51:31):
hot seat here, and based on the way things ended
in the first half and how they've started here in
the third quarter, Steve Spagnola's group is very much on
their heels right now. Kind of surprised that Dan Buyer
said he thought that that was a passenger inference. Uh
when And he brought up a good point. He would
have he had enough separation and the fact that he
had enough separation, Look, I didn't think he did. I
(01:51:52):
thought he had to extend that arm to get that
extra half a step, which is why it caught the ball. Again.
I don't have a problem with that. I wonder what
the people the stadium thought in one of what the
fans are going to be thinking about that after the game.
And again to Sega brought up a really good point
because the NFL did send out a tweet kind of
laying it out. They spotlighted the push off and said, hey,
(01:52:13):
this is this is past interference. This is what we
call uh bottom line, that was the right call by
the crew on the field. So game back, game on.
As Wayne and Garth would say, a little running play
around the left side of Tevin Canuel at Tevin Coleman,
excuse me, and San Francisco continues to do the ice
(01:52:34):
job of getting a few chunks on first down. It's
second down and seven right now, thirteen minutes to go
in the third quarter. Maybe I haven't pointed out we're
knotted up at ten at this point between the Chiefs
and the Niners San Francisco game. As far as I'm concerned,
isnds now that I'm not trying to give him the
kiss of death and not trying to curse him here.
(01:52:56):
But they're they're being put this a little longer second
down situation than Kyle Shanahan likes. But they're in second
and manageable. Uh. They haven't found themselves behind the sticks
too much. They've made very easy throws for Jimmy Garoppolo,
including that one to your sitch, which is another first
down for Kansas City. So you check. Excuse me and Arnie,
(01:53:19):
the Niners are did I say that the forty Niners?
Thank you your chich for the Niners first down. They're
just picking right up where they left off at the
end of the first half. They're just picking right up
where the Niners left off in the drive before the
end of the first half. But then again, Chris, if
I would have told you here we are in the
third coming up on the ten mint of mark, and
that San Francisco would only have ten points, you would say, Wow,
(01:53:42):
that's gotta be fantastic for the Chiefs. Obviously they would
have twenty four plus and they'd be winning this game
by two touchdowns. They haven't had the ball enough. I
don't know what time of possession is right now, but
I think it's got to be evening evening up towards
San Francisco right now. Here is the latest update on
time of possession. At one point, Kansas City had a
six minute advantage on time of possession. It was like
(01:54:03):
seventeen to eleven at one point in the first half.
The time of possession Now last check was like seventeen
to fifteen. So it's tightening up, as you said, And
I'd be willing to bet. I'm waiting for this page
to refresh here real quick, but I'm willing to bet
that San Francisco is on the verge of passing them
at time of possession. And if you could have scripted
(01:54:24):
a seventeen thirteen to fifteen forty eight and they continue
to run the football in those wide sweeps to most
are at. Kansas City does a good job in slowing
that down, so San Francisco will face a third down
on this drive for the first time in the second half.
But I know we gotta take a break. But Arnie,
if you could have scripted a perfect start to the
(01:54:44):
second half outside of maybe ending this with a touchdown,
what you're doing so far on this drive, which is
already a seven play, fifty seven yard drive that's eaten
up four minutes. This is the absolute perfect start for
San Francisco. If you can convert on this third out
and keep the chains moving. You don't you don't want
to how about this? You don't want to settle for
a field goal here and we'll grab a break right
(01:55:06):
after this third down play. Do you go forward on
fourth and one and a half to fourth and two
or do you kick the field goal? Do you have
the guns and you read one for two fourth thousands,
but those were fourth and one. This is a fourth
and two. Yeah, the pass is a nice one, but uh,
the route was a short route by Coleman, good coverage
by Kansas City, so it'll be fourth down and two
(01:55:27):
from the Kansas City twenty four yard line. This is
now an eight play sixty yard drive. That's eaton four
minutes and thirty two seconds and San Francisco is going
to attempt a field goal here. As soon as we
get the field goal, Bobo will go to break. We're
tied up at ten. San Francisco looking to take their
first lead of the game since early when they were
up three zero after the second drive of the game.
(01:55:49):
That first field goal was a thirty eight yard field goal.
Or the first field goal was a thirty eight yard
field goal by Robbie Gould. This is a forty two
yearted timp but hih I got you leave. This is
a four d two yard attempt by Robbie Gould. Uh
and San Francisco looking to take the lead with to
go in the game and gold is money, So there
we go. Time out on the field to go in
(01:56:12):
the game. San Francisco leads Kansas City thirteen to ten.
We're back with Casey's first possession of the second half.
Next on Fox Sports Radio, Chiefs on the move first
and ten from their own forty one yard line drive
that started deep in their own territory after a penalty
on the kickoff and a big run by Damian Williams
(01:56:36):
has him in second and manageable. Welcome back to the
guy called Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's Super Bowl game time,
if you will with Arnie and Plank. Key's Arnie Spanier.
I'm Chris Plank. We've been keeping the fund going on Twitter.
I'm a Plank Show. Arnie's at Stinking Genius Swan. Welcome
to those of you listening on the I Heart Radio app.
You can also download podcast to the i Heart Radio
(01:56:56):
app now, so use it to download our Fox Sports
Weekend show and of course on Sirius XM channel eighty three, Arnie.
The Niners take the lead on a field goal by
Robbie Gould from forty two yards out on a nine
play sixty yard drive that ate up five minutes and
thirty one seconds. But the Chiefs, oh Chiefs, nearly turned
(01:57:16):
the footnot have been big Chris Patrick. Mahomes was in
the pocket and was that was that d Ford that
slapped it out of his hands? No, it was Nick
bozas Bosa has been everywhere tonight. He absolutely schooled Eric
Fisher again and as Mahomes was getting ready to throw,
(01:57:37):
he slapped it out of his hands. So third down
and long once again for Kansas City third and twelve.
Critical there on thirty nine. Yeah, critical party here. If
they don't pick up the first they gotta put it
back down to San Francisco. So, uh, San Francisco in
a big situation. And wow, what a play there that
was pretty unbelievable by Bosa. Not only get them in
(01:57:58):
that situation, but on the third down play, Mahomes is
picked off interception by is that Fred Warner with the
interception and he took an absolute shot At the end
of that he was pitched the ball like what are
you doing? Wow? So they dropped everyone into coverage and
(01:58:21):
Mahomes was picked off. Wow, what a player that was.
Seemed a little confused at times when what San Francisco
is doing defensively or by just making too much of
that interception. Yeah, no, I absolutely I think you are
from holding it a little bit too long in the
pocket whenever Bozy got a piece of it. I mean,
Robert Sale is doing an incredible job with how he's
(01:58:41):
disguising things so far. But already the first interception by
Jimmy Garoppolo was big. The San Francisco defense stood up
and forced just a field goal on that now this
script has flipped. This is huge, huge for a very
tired Kansas City chief defense. They cannot allow anything more
(01:59:02):
than a field goal here right with the way that
San Francisco's milk and the clock and after that interception,
San Francisco now with a sixty four point eight percent
chance to win the game. Wow, that's uh, that's pretty
high for a San Francisco win. But still it's only
a game. Chris ye twenty three now left in the
(01:59:22):
third quarter. The the turnover battle is now a push
is that's the first turnover by Kansas City. San Francisco,
as we mentioned, had one earlier. The time of possession
is still favoring Kansas City by about three minutes. And
you know, I was mentioning this to the guys during
the break, but I'm curious to get your take. This
game kicked off about what five forty Central times. Does
(01:59:47):
it not seem like it's rolling? I mean it absolutely.
This game will be over by about ten to ten
fifteen Eastern. I mean that's incredible. So we'll we'll be
able to do a lot of it unless we have
overtime of you know, so funny was I'm think maybe
all NFL games are gonna start having concerts at half
time if it's only gonna be a three and a
half hour game, you know well, I mean, by the way,
real quick, San Francisco, do you come out throwing deep,
(02:00:09):
going for a touchdown on the first play, or do
you be conservative and run the ball? Oh man, a
momentum change play like that. I I think I go
ahead and take at least one shot down right off right,
Kansas City is trailing in the total yardage battle. Right now,
it's two thirty seven for San Francisco, just one eight
five for Kansas City and Pat Mahomes with the interception. Wow.
(02:00:32):
When we come back to the Getico Fox Sports Radio studios,
man who knows. With the way this game is going
down the stretch, San Francisco will have a first and
ten on their own forty five yard line, leading Kansas
City thirteen to ten, looking for yet another Lombardi trophy
to go in the trophy case at San Francisco headquarters.
(02:00:54):
He's already span your I'm Chris Plank. It's Super Bowl
live right here on Fox Sports Radio. Oh my, oh
my lad already either wait till the game is done
before you rip Bandy Reid. The pendulum has swung, the
tide has turned. As we come to you live from
(02:01:16):
the Geico Fox Sports Radio studioscent could save you fifteen
percent or more on car insurance. All you have to
do is visit Geico dot com for a free rate quote.
A six play, fifty five yard drive eating up two
minutes and forty eight seconds has extended the San Francisco
(02:01:38):
fort Or lead over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super
Bowl fifty four. After this in motion, they gave it
a mostard off the right side. Monster, get a pile down.
He's in chups down. Sad Fred says, God, touchdown forty Niners.
(02:02:03):
Arnie your boy. Rah. He mostered from a yard out
this after use check and dearly scored on a little
underneath pass. And here we are with time winding down,
two thirty five left in the in the third quarter,
and the Niners have opened up a twenty to ten
lead on the Chiefs. Now. Some would say, if you've
looked at history, Kansas City has him right where they
(02:02:25):
want them. But there's very few moments where Kansas City
has been held this in check as they have it.
Oh my, it was the first postseason interception thrown by
Patrick Mahomes start on their own twenty five yard It's
not excuse me, it's not panic time yet. It's twenty
to ten. But Kansas City does need to get a
(02:02:45):
drive here where it ends up in either a touchdown
or three points. You can't get nothing out of this,
even if it's a field goal to get you with
within one possession. But um and and they can't. You know,
it'd be nice that they could score close to the
start of the four because there's only two thirty five left.
They've they've got to get things moving and maybe they
have to go with maybe a little no huddle. I
(02:03:06):
did cuddling up now taken away too much time. They've
got to pick up the pace a little bit. Well.
And it's it's not really that I think Kansas City's
offense has been that uh dare I say tortoise like
in their pace? Aren't he? It's but you got to
San Francisco has done a really nice job and in fact,
on first down they pressure Patrick Mahomes to where he's
(02:03:28):
out of the pocket where usually he's the most dangerous
dude in the NFL. And San Francisco has got three
guys there and he has to throw it away. But
you gotta do you gotta do something to change it up.
This is obviously not Kansas City's typical offense. It was
the least amount of points scored by a Kansas City
team all year when they've only had ten. Uh. If
you're gonna give the ball back here down by ten,
(02:03:49):
san Francisco can chew up six, seven, eight minutes just
like that. So I would get a little bit of
sense of urgency and pick it up. Maybe that helps
you um offensively to and keep San Francisco back on
their heels and maybe even keeps them from blitzing so much. Yeah,
and oh, by the way, Arnie, I'm glad you caught that,
because as Kansas City uses, an inside handoff to Damian
(02:04:10):
Williams would get him a few yards. So it's third
and manageable, I guess is a is a good way
to put it. Third down and when they give five
from the fighting on the chief sideline, did you see
the uh honey badger yelling and screaming at some of
his teammates out there. I'm just trying to get him
fired up. I don't know. I think that's kind of
typical what you see whenever teams are getting a little
(02:04:30):
I mean, let's face it, what San Francisco is doing
offensively to them since about the midway point of what
the second quarter, I mean, this has been now if
you want to, a half of just San Francisco annihilating
the Kansas City defense. So and look at here, Patrick
Mahomes is gonna end up scrambling for close to a
first down. What do you think they gotten it? I
(02:04:51):
think they're gonna get it because if he does it,
they'll go for it. But I think he has gotten
the first down. It looks like by the marquee he
got the first down. And again, why is he four
ut out of the park pocket Arnie? Because San Francisco
is now in a position where, I mean they are
getting pressure with four guys, they're not blitzing, they're disguising
(02:05:11):
what they're doing on posts right and getting in his grill.
Nobody can stop Bosa one on one. They're gonna have
to start double teaming him. That's a really I was
just about to say the same thing. They're gonna have
to start chipping on Bosa. I agree with you a
hundred percent. And he almost got Patrick Mahomes, but Kansas
City keeps the drive alive, and with a minute eleven
left in the first half, a rare misfire by Patrick
(02:05:34):
Combs to a fairly open receiver. Arnie, I think my
man shook right now. He's a hundred and thirty six
yards and an interception. You don't think maybe going no
huddle would maybe get him in more of a rhythm
and maybe keep San Francisco on their heels. They're not
blitzing and just said, so you gotta tire out that
front four for them. You gotta do something. And plus
(02:05:55):
there's a minute left in the third, you're done by ten.
You gotta have a little bit of sense of urgency here.
Here's the thing though, this again is not unfamiliar territory
for Kansas City. They've been down by ten I think
just about every single playoff games so far. So I
don't think you're gonna see him panic too much right now.
I have to ask you what the hell was Travis
(02:06:15):
Kelsey just thinking on that play right now? Because if
they don't pick up the first it's solely because of him.
He had the first down and he's making moves and
blood instead of going two yards straight ahead to get
that first. They're the third and one situation because of him.
I don't think he realized that Fred Warner was right
behind him. I think he thought he had shook him
a little bit more, not not, maybe not. He just
tried to make a move on him and that was
(02:06:37):
very smart. But this, this will likely be the last
play of the third down and they're set up in
what a direct snap to Kelsey and he's gonna get
the first down because he faked a handoff inside runs
around the right side. So he is the third different
player for the Chiefs, the second non quarterback to take
a snap in this game. What they call it the
(02:06:59):
wild cat. That'd be like what the saber cat, the
jungle cat with Travis Kelsey behind. I mean, my goodness,
what a wild set up by the Kansas. What a
quick game. If this last quarter takes let's say forty minutes,
this game will have been a little bit over a
three hour game with the long halftime. That's unbelievable. Let
(02:07:21):
me get a couple of tweets in here, because I
haven't done a really good job and trying to keep
up with everything throughout the night and Lee and Bobar
killing it in the in the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Uh,
Steve di Sager on updates has been crushing at all
of our editors. I haven't really done a nice job
and getting caught up on the the tweets so far. Uh,
this one from Tyler. Tyler has got a couple of mary,
He writes, why is forty four still in the rotation
(02:07:44):
to where in San francisc That's a great point, but
use check tonight has done a nice job in showing
that he is worthy of that. I mean, but he's
probably not gonna win the m v P. But he's
got a he's got a touchdown. He's got a couple
of catches so far on the night. He's been fantastic,
I say, a couple three catches, thirty nine yards and
a touchdown. In fact, Arnie yardage wise, he is tied
(02:08:08):
as the leading receiver for San Francisco here on the
evening as we wrap up the third quarter with San
fran on top twenty to ten. But we can say
that Santa Kansas City is driving so far, So I agree,
I don't know, I could not agree more that you
need to go ahead and retire that forty four and
move on. Paul writes, this game is going by so
(02:08:29):
fast that people on the East Coast might get to
bed before midnight for the first time. And I don't
know how long when it comes to a sporting of this,
this game will be over by ten o'clock Eastern. So
that's gonna be a four hours, three hour and twenty
minute game. Not bad with a long halftime. Now, I
hate to be that guy, Arnie, but you know there
(02:08:49):
is the chance of overtime here, so let's let's not
get too carried away. By the way, use Check is
the seventh fullback to score touchdown in the Super Bowl. Uh.
I've seen a couple of different notes on this. Uh.
Someone had mentioned that he was the first since like
William Floyd did, but NFL research said that he's the
first fullback to score a touchdown uh in in this
(02:09:12):
Super Bowl and then becomes the first since Mike Alstott
in Super Bowl thirty seven. Us Check, by the way,
is also the first player from an IVY League school
to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl straight out
of Harvard. Not too bad. And by the way, before
you get back, magic doesn't have a touchdown in the
(02:09:32):
Super Bowl. I am sorry, but your boy Ryan fits
Magic does not have a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
Deebo Samuel did indeed set the record for the most
rush yards by a wide receiver. The previous mark was
held by Percy Harvin, who had forty five rushing yards.
And what was that Super Bowl forty eight? I believe
it was so Uh there's there's records being broken all
(02:09:53):
over the place here tonight. I like this Tyler to say,
I am calling it game over. Don't do that, John,
do that right now. We've done that too many times
on this show, and we we ruin it. Uh real?
Are are r? J? Wrights? Andy Reid is like Bobby Cox,
except the former Braves manager actually did win one. Am
(02:10:15):
I speaking too soon? Rights? Are J? Romano? Arnie? Yeah?
No he Isn't he say he's not speaking too soon?
Or Andy Reid isn't Bobby Cox. No, he's not speaking
too soon. Andy Reid is Bobby Cox right now, though
doubt about that. Boy. Nearly another interception by the San
Francisco forty niners, and Nick Bosa slipped on the most
(02:10:37):
recent pastra pass rush. As the fourth quarter starts, with
the Chiefs having it first down in Tin, Kansas City
is at their own forty six yard line. Uh, this
will be the eighth play of the drive on second
down and Tin and my home has gotta be a
little four down territory at this point. I'm thinking at
the way the pace is going right now. Oh my gosh,
he almost threw that right to Kwan. Alexander Arnie, what's
(02:11:00):
going on with Patrick Mahomes right now? We were talking
with the Bobo and Lee and I during the break
the interception he through to Fred Warner. Warner was staring
right at him. I mean, I know they pick up
the first down in the past to Tyreek Kill to
keep the chains moving. But listen, this has been a
very non Mahomes like performance in the first three quarters
(02:11:20):
so far. One touchdown for Kansas City that was in
the first quarter. If you would have said they're not
going to score again as we head into the fourth,
I would have said, you're absolutely crazy, No way that's
scoring to happen. Um. Must see. I had a couple
of other tweets here that I wanted to get you. Oh,
Matt Wison, Arnie, will you now break down week one
of the XFL season if this gets boring in the
fourth quarter. But it's not getting boring in the fourth
but I hear we're just saying absolutely. I will say,
(02:11:44):
by the way, I love the way that they have
started to promote the XFL A little uh X gonna
give it to you breaking out the new rules that
Kansas City picks up another first down on a nice
use of his legs by Damien Williams. Williams, so they
push into forty nine territory. I love what we're seeing
so far. Um the Paul writes, I have a feeling
(02:12:05):
enough people will be upset over this year's halftime show
that James Taylor will now be performing and next year's
halftime show he actually might be right, and Isaac right,
Aquaman being skinny skinny bald nerd wins the Super Bowl
ads already, and someone else had checked in on the
uh the halftime ads as well too. Oh go ahead.
(02:12:27):
I'm just gonna say they're taking way too much time
because if one negative play, one bad play happens, they're
gonna find themselves in a really bad situation. I guess
what that one play, just bad bad play happened. Kansas
Kansas City is gonna find themselves in a tough situation
right now, second down and long as a sacked by
who was that arms? Nope, Buckner West and Buckner gets
back there and are divorced. Buckner excuse me, gets back
(02:12:49):
there and makes the big play, and Kansas City is
gonna have its second and forever. Uh, let's see second
out of nineteen you got. Now you have to field goal.
Make sure you're back in the field goal ranger at
the thirty six, so you need to pick up another
ten plus just to make sure you're okay for the
field goal. If not, you could be in big trouble.
(02:13:09):
But Mahomes is going to see what he can do
about that. Here's out of the tweet. On the commercials,
Walmart had the best commercials so far, The Skinny Aquaman
and Feed the World of Snickers close runner up just
for having a young Bill S. Preston talked to a
current day Bill Patrick. Mahomes trying to get a flag there,
does a nice job of picking up a few yards
(02:13:29):
on his own. But if there is one thing that
seems to be happening so far, Arnie, the officials. They're
letting him play We're not seeing a lot of the
tiki tach pass interference calls, are holding calls, and I
want to see the end of this play. Once again,
Mahomes ends up running up the middle, gets away from
a couple of tacklers. All they didn't show it. He
(02:13:50):
gave himself up, but then still took a pretty good shot.
So third down, boy, you gotta tell us what happened,
because I'm gonna let you see what happened because it
is a big turning point of this game. My friend
Patrick Mahomes third down and six intercepted again on a
ball that absolutely went through the hands of Tyreek end caught.
(02:14:13):
San Francisco gets the second turnover of the game, and
this one is huge. No, it's not game with the
Are you kidding me? I've seen too many of these
with Kansas City. Let's see Mahomes that he put it
on the money. He's a little bit becau. That's why
I told you that play. That's why I told you, Chris,
(02:14:33):
you have to have a little bit of sense of urgency.
You've got to go to nod huddle. Now they've taken
all that time off, and now San Francisco will take
another three, four or five minutes off and you know,
limit the possessions for Kansas City. You had to have
saved the time when you were in the third. Now
you're now your backs against the wall. Uh, Tavaris Moore
it gets the interception. It's the second pick by Pat Mahomes.
(02:14:55):
And with eleven fifties seven to go in the fourth quarter,
the warty Niners lead the Kansas City Chiefs twenty to ten.
San Francisco will have the football on their own twenty
yard line when play resumes, and when we come back. Wow, Arnie,
who would have thought that we would see this type
of implosion by the Kansas City offense. And all credit
(02:15:17):
I think has to go to the Niners defense and
how they're just frustrating them. Right now, it's a ninety
one point seven percent chance that San Francisco wins the game.
That's astronomical. Uh look again in San Francisco, or excuse me,
Kansas City is still in this, but they've got to
get three and out. Now it's about time they did
that to San Francisco. Got the ball back immediately. You
(02:15:38):
can't have more clock chewed up. There's twelve minutes left.
Let's see how long San Francisco can hold on to it.
I do want to remind you, though this panic about
the clock, This is a pretty good quick strike offense
for Kansas City. Well, it hasn't done anythingtrolized tonight. Hasn't
done it. Yeah, hasn't done anything today. And you're down
to scores. Now are you gonna get the ball more
than twice in the last twelve minutes? All right? When
(02:16:00):
we come back to the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios,
how does this end? Does San Francisco hold on and
pick up the Super Bowl yet again for San Francisco?
Or do we see another monumental comeback by the Chiefs.
Were in the midst of the fourth quarter. The forty
Niners are in control with the football leading twenty to ten.
(02:16:21):
As Arnie and playing Super Bowl game time rolls on
here on Fox Sports Radio for the first time tonight,
the forty Niners have punted. Yeah, there's four eight fifty
three to go in the game. Fourth quarter. San Francisco, though,
leads Kansas City twenty to ten. The Chiefs will have
(02:16:42):
to start from their own seventeen yard line. And I
don't know, Arnie, was was there an off side that
was missed, like hit that was missed. No, there was
no way hit. He pushed him when he was in bounds. Um,
it did look like they were off sides. No call,
maybe time that maybe didn't. I couldn't tell they and
show it again. Uh. And by the way, San Francisco
(02:17:03):
is playing the clock. They're not hiking the ball, so
there's one second left on the game clock. So they're
cognizant about how much time they want to wear it
out and how many more possessions they need to salt
this way, assault this game away. Kansas City has got
to come out with the no huddle this time out. Um,
there's not enough time for them to start thinking about
two and three possessions. And they've got the score right here,
(02:17:24):
there's no doubt about that. A couple of quick notes
courtesy of our man Josh Dubo, who is incredible when
it comes to stats from the Associated Press. If you
don't follow Josh, well you should because he's a great
follow at Josh Dubo. A. P. Patrick Mahomes is the
first Chief's quarterback with a two interception playoff games since
Matt Castle in two thousand eleven. Through three against the
(02:17:47):
Ravens and Rahim most Stirts. Fifth touchdown in the playoffs
marks the fifth time of San Francisco Niner player has
reached that mark in one post season. Jerry Right had
six in nine, Ricky Waters had six and nineteen ninety three.
There's my man bar none, William Floyd had five and
(02:18:08):
ninety four, and then Jerry Rice didn't. I guess I
couldn't necessarily say yeah, I guess I would be again
in eighty nine with five. And we mentioned it a
little bit earlier. Used Check became the first player from
an IVY school to score a touchdown tonight. And there's
only been two teams to rally from a ten point
(02:18:28):
or more deficit in the second half to win a
Super Bowl. And Arnie, I think we were on the
air for both Patriots. Patriots in two thousand and seventeen
against the Falcons and then Patriots in two thousand and
fifteen against the Seahawks. They were now three against the Falcons.
Of course, they were now fourteen against the Seahawks. So
(02:18:49):
there's there. There's a little history, not much, but I
think you're right. I'm not necessarily disagreeing you that the
chief should ever not go no huddle. But in this instance,
all right, let's let's get that pace going, not just
because of you know the fact that you're down ten,
but altie, let's say you go score, even if it's
just a field goal. You've got to get the football
(02:19:11):
back quick. And they should have started this at the
end of the third when there was two minutes left
and they had the ball. Even if they didn't score them,
which they didn't, at least you're gonna save yourself some time.
They didn't think about that. They weren't cognizant of it. Now,
like you said, if it takes the two to three
four minutes of score, now there's only gonna be four
and a half the five minutes left in the game.
So this is a crunch time right now, no doubt
about that. You know. The thing. That's the thing that's
(02:19:33):
kind of interesting to me, and they are. They're listening
to you already, they're listening to us. Chief's going a
little no huddle here from what I've seen with Pat Mahomes.
And look at all this green he has in front
of him. If he wants to go um he picks
up the first down. So the Chiefs will move the
sticks and they're going, Man, this is when they are
they're most dangerous. And I know that that probably won't
(02:19:55):
resonate with many people based on the fact that we've
been watching the Niners slow them down for the better
part of what three and a half quarters of this
game so far. But Arnie, when they get in that
hurry up and Patrick Mahomes is able to create a
little bit this has typically been when they're the most dangerous.
But as they complete a pass at Tyreek Kill, which
pushes them a little bit closer towards midfield, that gain
(02:20:17):
was nine yards. They are now to the thirty eight
yard lines, second down and short. But Artie, this is
this is when that they can really get you on
their heels and do some damage. I was gonna say,
what's the last time we were watching the Kansas City
Chiefs game and we didn't see one Mahomes pass go
deep down field like thirty or forty yards where he
just unleashed it to a Tyreek Hill or somebody like that.
(02:20:37):
I haven't seen one pass like that from them all game.
I don't believe. Yeah, you know, that's a great question,
because I don't feel like I don't think they've been
able to and the defense a little bit even if
you don't complete it. Chris nick Vosa comes off the field.
I think they're just rotating guys. They didn't seem like
he was survey, but they're gonna get a flag and
it's gonna be a false start. Oh my gosh. So
(02:20:59):
they're pushing Cands City back even further territory. I've got
to believe, well that was to go in the game, Yeah, absolutely,
and their right guard just move a scoche and ends
up getting the penalty called on him. So it's first
and fifteen. That will push it back to where they
got that at the thirty five yard line. And this
(02:21:19):
is such danger territory for potential pick six too, with
the way that he's been kind of pressured and struggling here.
I mean, they they can't even make the routine catches.
I mean it, I don't know. We still I'm not
trying to be that guy that jumps the gun because
you know, I usually lead that to Arnie. But I
don't know if I've seen Patrick Mahomes this flummixed, even
(02:21:42):
in games that they've lost, you know, even when I
I mean, because listen, Patrick Mahomes is not undefeated as
a starting quarterback. But even in games that they lose,
you look up and they've got you know, thirty forty
points in the board, they end up getting outscored. This
has just been even even if Kansas City comes back
and wins Arnie, this has still been an epic defensive
(02:22:04):
performance by San Francisco so far. You know, we talked
about what does San Francisco have to do defensively and
I said, look, they're gonna keep their safeties back Ben
don't break see if mahomes and they're gonna make him
check off and keep the ball in front of them.
And that's exactly what they did. So um, give credit
to that forty nine defense. They've done stuff that we
haven't seen all year against that uh excuse me, the
(02:22:26):
San Francisco defense. They've done stuff that we haven't seen
all year against that Kansas City offense. We have our
first challenge with six fifties seven to go in the
fourth quarter. I can't see that he catched that or
what let's see they're showing the replay now was a
past at Tyreek kill that's gonna be I think that's incomplete.
But let's see what the angle looks like I'm not
(02:22:48):
so sure. You've got to overturn that. You gotta have
enough evidence to say that he didn't have it. He
could touch the ground and still say that you've caught that.
I think I'm gonna have to call that a good
catch and move on because I don't think there's enough
to overturn it. His the past was to Tyreek Hill.
It was caught at the thirty five yard line. He
was sliding when he made the catch, and his arms
(02:23:10):
look to be under the ball, But I don't know, Arnie.
On the replay, you seem pretty confident that it might
not get overturned, but you can't. You don't really have
a good angle to see if the ball moves or not,
do you right, So again, if if it doesn't show that,
it's got to be a catch. But that's what they
ruled for it on the field. Then again, the ball
did touch the ground, But as long as you have
(02:23:32):
your hands under it and you maintain possession, that's a
good catch. Not enough there to say no catch there,
I don't think so. By the way, this note from
ESPN stats in Info. Both of Patrick mahomes interceptions have
come when he's targeting Tyreek Hill. Including the playoffs, Mahomes
has seven picks this season, which is incredible, and five
(02:23:52):
of those whenever he's targeting Tyree Hill when you take
them out of the Hall of Fame right now, is
you're not on that? I want to hear something amazing.

cash Back Match. We'll wait to find out what the
ruling is on the challenge by San Francisco. But while
we wait, Steve D. Saker slides into the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios. Looks like it's gonna be wiped out
in complete pass. How about that the ground helped him
with the catch because he was coming forward and the
(02:24:33):
ball was kind of between the elbows as he was
reaching out for it, so he didn't have it in
his hands and secure, and I think the ground helped
him with the catch. So they're gonna overturn that. You
mentioned the interceptions Mahomes in his playoff career. Before tonight,
it was eleven touchdowns, no interceptions, and then their first
two drives in the second half he throws picks on
each of them. Mahomes, it took him over a hundred
(02:24:56):
sixty passes in his playoff career to finally throw a pick.
And now what was a ten ten game at halftime
is San Francisco twenty to ten and just over seven
minutes left in this game. As we think ahead to
possible San Francisco Super Bowl m vps for tonight, I
don't think Nick Moos is going to get the votes,
but man, he's had a good game, only one sack,
but a lot of pressures, including in the first half
(02:25:17):
when he didn't have a sack and Fred Werner with
the interception and tied for the team lead in tackles.
If it comes down to Garoppolo or Deebo Samuel, I
give the m v P to Deebo Samuel because he's
not only has five catches for about forty yards, he
has the three rushes for over fifty yards. And Garoppolo.
While it's a good percentage eighteen of twenty two passing,
it's under two hundred yards passing and he threw a
(02:25:38):
ridiculous interception in the first half. Most importantly, San Francisco
has the lead twenty to ten. And by the way,
Robbie Gold with two extra points and two field goals
for the Niners tonight. He still has never missed a
kick in his playoff career, and that goes back fourteen
years when he was a young Bears kicker. Fifteen of
fifteen on playoff field goals, twenty nine of twenty nine
(02:26:01):
on playoff extra points. Update after the call was challenged
and reversed, they go deep Patrick forty four yards to
Tyreek Hill. This game is not over. Still seven minutes
to go and Casey is down ten mahomes. Yes, he's
thrown two picks. He does have a touchdown run tonight.
He's now up to two hundred twenty five yards passing.
(02:26:22):
We were thinking, what's been the longest Super Bowl because
this has been a pretty quick one. Well, obviously the
longest is the one that had the power outage in
New Orleans, which was a nine ers Super Bowl a
few years ago that went well over four hours. Apparently
the average is about three forty five. There was one
that was about three hours and fifteen in the last
couple of decades. This one is maybe on pace for
(02:26:43):
roughly three fifteen, three twenty as quick as it has gone.
I am assuming I have not seen a list. I'm
assuming all the Super Bowls in the early days were
shorter than that because you didn't have the length of
commercial You just had the grambling band at halftime or
up with people or something. And I'm sounds like we
had tonight. So yeah, a little bit different. As far
(02:27:03):
as the stats to look at. I mentioned Mahomes at
two twenty five yards passing Tyreek Hill has been targeted
fourteen times in this game. Only seven catches. Out of
the fourteen times he's been thrown to ninety seven yards,
receiving four Hill in this game, six twenty three to go.
In the Super Bowl, Chiefs with the ball but trailing
twenty to ten to San Francisco. By the way, in
(02:27:26):
the NBA there were four games. Detroit and overtime beat
Denver despite a triple double from Dakola Yokis, who had
thirty nine points in forty minutes. Houston got forty points
from James Harden and beat New Orleans Milwaukee over Phoenix
Jannic's antenna kumpo thirty points, nineteen boards and Toronto when
it's eleventh straight ripping Chicago. Novak Djokovic took the Australian
Open in five sets, twenty to ten. San Francisco in
(02:27:48):
the lead, and I think we all agree here, guys,
the Niners may not have to score again to take this.
It's all on the Chiefs offense. Yet not over yet.
Here's a big third down play from Kansas City going
to the ends, complete in the end zone, but a flag.
Thank you, Steve six. Seven team to go in the
fourth quarter, and the Niners lead the Chiefs twenty to ten.
(02:28:11):
As we come to you alive from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say fifteen percent or
more on car insurance with Geico. Go to Geico dot
com or call eight hundred nine for seven auto. The
only hard part figuring out which way is easier. Yeah,
I'm laughing. It'll be first and goal from the one
because they've basically let everything go tonight. But if you
(02:28:33):
would have let that passenger, I mean two big plays obviously,
the offensive past interference on George Kittle and then this
dp I and the so you need to touchdown for
the last seven minutes Chiefs. Yeah, and there's one, all right,
go touchdown to Kelsey. So the Chiefs have cut it
to it now at the least a four point game
(02:28:54):
with the extra point pending. So Travis Kelsey with his
first touchdown, and you like two and a half minutes
in that one, I think with six thirteen to go
in the fourth quarter, Kansas City's trailing by four with
the extra point pending. You mentioned the amount of time
on that drive, Arnie, Yeah, they only needed two minutes
in thirty seconds, so Kansas City can get it done.
(02:29:16):
And you know, while the Saga was giving his update,
as you heard, they overturned the past that was ruled complete.
And then you had a forty four yard pass at
Tyreek kill that somehow San Francisco allows him to get
behind the den. I mean, there was no and Mahomes
actually didn't though the best ball as the extra point
is good. But Arnie, I mean, holy smokes, what a
(02:29:39):
change of momentum on that one play. Not Kansas City
still had to go score and got the past interference
in the end zone, but I mean, my goodness, man,
what a change of momentum and a change of just
energy and a change of of of of luck for
Kansas City so far, And what do you do here? Now?
If you're San Francisco, you can't kill six minutes, can you? So?
(02:30:00):
Do you come out passing because they think you're gonna
run the ball, they're crowding the line, they're playing the run,
and maybe you get yourself a big play. Then you
start chipping away at the clock or do you get
conservatives saying we're up by three? Ch cheer away some
of the clock there, and then if you give the
ball back to Kansas City, I'm not feeling too good
that they won't come down and score a touchdown. Well,
as we come to you lot tonight from the Getico
(02:30:21):
Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say or more.
On car insurance with Geico, you can go to Geico
dot com or called seven Auto. The only hard part
is figuring out which way is easier. It's a great question, aren'tie,
Because as many of us know better paid attention this
week one Kyle Shanahan has been in this situation before
with a big lead, and it was kind of interesting
(02:30:43):
because gosh, I hope I find this cut before we
we get back. Oh, here it is. Kyle Shanahan was
asked if there was anything and I thought this was
a great question, and how it how it kind of
goes full circle. But anything he can learn from super
Bowl fifty one and now here we are in a
situation where yes, they're pretty much in the exact well
not the exact, didn't blow lead. But I like this
(02:31:07):
from super Bowl week, Kyle Shanahan being asked anything he
can learn from his offense kind of hitting a wall
in super Bowl fifty one? Anyone to learn this? Still
a lot of stuff from that game. I mean, no
matter how much you get up on someone, Um, you
gotta keep moving the chains, um to keep the ball
from going back. So you better converted third down or
do extremely well in first and second. Now you're gonna
keep giving it back to him. Um. When then you're
(02:31:28):
playing against quarterback like Tom Brady, Um, you gotta do
something to get him off the field. Also, So he
was unbelievable in that game. Was good. Have any quarterback
I've ever seen play a game, and he's had a
lot of good ones. But the way he wasn't third down,
the way he was just automatic I thought our coverages
were tight, and he still seemed to hit everybody. So
um it just so, no matter what, how good you
have to play to be a good team and a
(02:31:49):
good player and a good coach like that, that's somewhat generic.
But again, but again, as he said, hey, you gotta
keep moving the Chaine. So if I'm reading into that
a little bit on, he's gonna pass here, he's gotta
throw the football. Throw it. Yeah, I think I'd have
to come out and throw a safe pass, whether it's screen,
something out to the flat, something short, especially if they're
(02:32:10):
going to crowd the wine to play the run. I've
got to counter that. Six minutes left. That's I'll close, Jordan.
When you get Super Bowl, you're up by three, don't
just go ahead and get conservative here, all right? And
before we grab a break and we see exactly what
San Francisco is going to do offensively, the forty Niners
lead by just three. Because of this from Pat Mahomes,
(02:32:33):
the Chiefs now have goal to go first down and
goal to go at the one. With six seventeen to
go in the game and the Chiefs trailing to ten,
the Homes up on the football off set I the
sausage in at fullback. They moved to the right side.
They throw back the end zone, touched down Cherry City
Travis Kelsey eight and a half yard's deep in the
(02:32:55):
end zone on a bootleg touchdown pass. Chiefs have life
six to go in the game. The chief will then four.
How about that. That's the great Mitch Holtis and the
Kansas City Chief Radio network. And here we go six
oh six to go in the football game. San Francisco
has the football on their own twenty. They're up by three. Arny,
(02:33:19):
you're saying the recipe here, don't be afraid to keep
throwing the football. But then they get picked off and
over and say, what are you throwing the ball for? Um? Look,
I know maybe they want to run here on first
out they get the clock moving, but you can't be conservative.
You gotta make sure you still continue to pile up
those yardages and at least get the couple of first
downs here. All right, we'll keep we'll keeping on these
first couple of plays before we grab a break. It
(02:33:41):
is at their own twenty yard line, which is where
they start. Uh. They do run the football, get a
nice chunk on first down out to the yards, So
you put yourself I know this is kind of a
captain obvious thing, but these offenses are all predicated on
second and manageable. You know, you don't want to be
in second and eight, second and seven. You put yourself
(02:34:01):
in second and five, second and four. You're in a
good spot for Raheem Mostert. Now that's eleven carries, forty
one yards and a touchdown as the the have really
done a good job running the football. So by one
to go in the fourth quarter, it's second down in
five for the San Francisco. They're gonna that was a
(02:34:23):
little dangerous bat it at the line of scrimmage and
we'll have third down when we come back, because, let's
face it, Arnie, this is well, you know what, Bubba,
we okay with watching the third down watching alright, we're
gonna watch it. This might be the play of the game.
This is this, This is a big one. I mean lepsodes.
(02:34:45):
You know it doesn't end the game, but this is
a big one. Right, Well, yeah, if you get the
first down, it doesn't end the game. If you if
you don't get the first down, then that panic meter
is ratcheted up just a little bit. Let's see what
Steve Spagnola does too. They haven't brought a lot to
pressure all night long. This is a situation where Kyle
Shanahan loves to run the football. He's gonna throw it
(02:35:07):
and Jimmy g incomplete. When we brought the blitz he
got and when we come back to the Geico Fox
Sports Radio Studios, Kansas City will get the football back.
With five eight teen to go in the game. San
Francisco twenty Kansas City seventeen. Oh what a finish we
(02:35:29):
have ahead of you right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Is he in? Are not sure? I think yes. I'm
gonna say yes because at the still picture of the
showing us the tip of the football is on the line.
Not enough to overturn it. It will be a touchdown?
Wow wow, wow? Is there enough to overturn it? Does
(02:35:52):
that even matter anymore? Shouldn't even be overturn? It looks
like it should be a touchdown. We shall wait. It's
gonna be a rule the touchdown, touchdown Kansas City the
chiefs in I mean incredibly quick fashion, go right to
the Only reason I knew that so quick, guys, is
because Sam Farmer had it on Twitter so uh. Patrick
(02:36:14):
Mahomes engineers an incredible scoring drive of seven plays, sixty
five yards in two minutes and twenty six seconds. Damian
Williams the Sooner Alum Boomer Sooner Baby on third and
goal from the five yard line, a short little swing
(02:36:34):
pass that he takes to the house. The replay ruling
held the extra point is good. So with two forty
four to go in the game, we entered the fourth
quarter with the Niners on top twenty to ten. It
is now Kansas City twenty four San Francisco twenty when
the Niners have to score a touchdown to win it.
(02:36:59):
What goodness? What this is? What it sounded like? Courtesy
of the Kansas City Chief radio notte. Third down, go
to go with the five. Williams the running back to
the left of the Homes. Now they bring Tyreek Hill
in motion with it. They fake to him, throw right side,
copineams the right pilot touchdown Kansas City. Andy Reid dials
(02:37:22):
up a brilliant play. Kansas City. Rick gains the lead
in Super Bowl fifty four, and what a start to
the drive for the San Francisco forty Niners. Big run
by Rack he mostarred on first down puts San Francisco
out from the back. I guess you could say the
shadow of their end zone. Uh seventeen yard run puts
(02:37:46):
the Niners at the thirty two yard line. For most
are now Arnie twelve carries fifty eight yards and a
touchdown on the night. Holy smokes, you just thought you
were in good shape, Kansas City. We're gonna reach the
two minute warning. I think before they know they're gonna
snap the ball will get one more play before the
two minute warning. It will be a run by most,
(02:38:07):
but there's a flag on the play. Tyler says that
on Twitter. Twitter's about the break with people questioning Shanahan's
play calling last drive. Where did he go wrong? That
was the first time they punted it all all night?
Where where did he go wrong? Because I I don't
remember the sequence. I he threw the ball twice and
if you're gonna get mad, and they ran the ball once,
I think that they got about four yards and then
(02:38:29):
they had a couple of tough passes. He in looking
back now on some of the replays, they missed an
absolute wide open George Kittle. But yeah, it's it's tough.
So uh two oh two to go in the game,
Kansas City leads it twenty four to twenty. San Francisco
(02:38:50):
has it first and fifteen from their own twenty what's
at seven yard line, and we got a break for
the top of the hour. But when we come back
to the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios, we're gonna take
you to the end of this and it's going to be,
I mean, nail biting, edge of your seed fantastic. So
(02:39:11):
we'll see if the Niners can get rolling. Here. We're
at the two minute warning of the Super Bowl and
after last year's drag defensive battle, offensive and effectiveness, this
has been a thriller. We had to the final hour
of our Super Bowl show. The Chiefs lead to twenty.
(02:39:31):
Don't go anywhere. It's Arnie and Plank on a Super
Bowl Sunday on Fox. Dude, this is what what a game?
This is it? What a game? Chiefs have the football
back after a fourth down. Gosh, they blitz about everybody. Basically,
(02:39:53):
if the Chiefs can get a first down here, it's over.
San Francisco has all three of its time out us
before that fourth down play the clock. The game clock
hit zero, and nobody challenged it it shouldn't have been
a play Oh and you know, in in one instance,
if you're a nine or click the the back judge
(02:40:14):
has the whistle in his mouth. Why did he blow
the play dead? I don't know. Like always there what
they're saying, but um, sometimes they'll let you get it off.
I'm watching it again, and remember what's that there's a
separate clock that's usually kept by but I don't think
that's they've got to blow the whistle on that. Oh
my goodness, and this game is over. Also, you guys,
(02:40:37):
they always look at the clock first, and then once
it hit zero, that's when they look at the ball.
And then so here we go, second down in six
over Williams with a handoff off the left side. He's
gonna take it to the house. Touchdown Kansas City. For
the first time in the modern era, the Kansas City
Chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl. They jump
(02:40:59):
up thirty to two money with a minute twelve, Andy
Read on the sideline with a big smile on his face.
They're celebrating in the box. Wow. As we welcome you
into our final hour here from the Getico Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or
more on car insurance. All you have to do is
(02:41:19):
visit Geico dot com for a free rate quote. Kansas
City with a minute twelve to go in the game,
extra point pending, Arnie, Who would have thought when we're
heading into the fourth quarter of a twenty to ten
San Francisco lead in which nothing was looking right for
(02:41:41):
Patrick Mahomes. Heck the dude through two interceptions and Kansas
City puts twenty one on the board while extra point
pending in the fourth quarter, and they're going to win
the Super Bowl. First Super Bowl crown for the sand
for the Kansas City Chiefs since nineteen seventy when they
(02:42:03):
beat Minnesota in Super Bowl four. Absolutely, you know it
was up to eighties six percent chance. I believe I
saw that San Francisco was going to win the game
when they were up twenty to ten. Way to hang
in there, This will go down. Uh, this will be
the start of mahomes legacy. Uh if he goes on wins.
This will be his first Super Bowl obviously, and who
(02:42:24):
knows how many more to come. What a great comeback?
Still about over, but um, what a way to hang
in there and show how tough they were. I thought
they were, you know, pretty much doomed at twenty to ten.
But give them a lot of credit. And Andy Reid's
gonna get that first Super Bowl? How about that? Yeah?
This is awesome. And look, my man is still coaching
away right now, making sure Mitchell A. Schwartz knows what
(02:42:46):
he has to do. Maybe a handshake here or there,
but you know, Andy Reid is all about making sure
everyone understands their responsibilities. Minute twelve left. You know what
I'm thinking about right now? Who's the m v P?
Because people saying, will you was locked it up with
the hundred four yards in the touchdown? I I don't
think I can give it to my homes. Go ahead,
(02:43:07):
Bubba gatorade? Color you guys going O? I don't know
why I feel like it's orange. Remember purple would be
to honor Kobe Reports. Never mind orange. Uh. There are
some that say that it has been taken off the
board in certain places where you could bet. But Arnie,
(02:43:27):
you hit on the on the m v P, Bubbo
you had on the gatorade. I'm more thinking about what
this party is gonna be like in Kansas City. I mean,
imagine again the Royals won a World Series couple of
years ago. But and this is no offense to Kansas
City Royals baseball or baseball in general. And this pains
(02:43:50):
me to say, because, as I like to make sure
everyone remembers, I am a lifelong Raider fan. But there's
something about the love affair that Kansas City has with
the Chiefs, and there's something about how that team is
ingrained in that community. And to know that they haven't
won a Super Bowl since nineteen seventy and this is
their third trip, their first trip in twenty years. I mean, Arnie,
(02:44:14):
that's gonna be one heck of a party. Did they
get the football back? They did? Oh my gosh, they're
gonna call a fumble all right, they're gonna talk about
it here. Garoppolo was hit from behind, the ball came out,
but they didn't rule immediately that his arm was moving forward.
Oh no, that's a fumble. I'm not so you think
(02:44:34):
his arm was moving His arm was moving forward? Oh
uh wow. By the way, Bill's Mafia says Kyle Shanahanna's
the Bill Buckler and Scott Nor would have head coaches.
What a joke? Ard is that? I don't feel that
way I don't. I don't feel like San Francisco gave
this game away. I feel like kids that he came
back and won this game. Am I wrong on that? Chris?
(02:44:55):
I don't see. This is not gonna be a fun
We still left another o well this final hour to
finish up, and we're gonna have a lot of postgame thoughts.
And usually Arnie and I are at our best when
we disagree and yelling, scream at each other and we fight.
It's crazy. I don't I can't disagree with you and
that that that that wasn't a situation where Kyle Shanahan
did anything wrong by any stretch of the imagination. And
(02:45:17):
he was, you know, he's being aggressive. You just can't
sit on it and run it three times. But I
just kudos to kudos to the Chiefs that I told
you guys. I told you guys, I've seen this before.
It's like watching Brady in the Super Bowl every year
we've done this to two together. I've seen this before
(02:45:38):
with the Chiefs. By the way, they're gonna rule that
it was an incomplete pass, so San Francisco's gonna keep
the football. But thirty one to twenty, Kansas City has
the lead Garoppolo looking deep and he is picked ball game. Wow,
what a finish. Kansas City's defense forces two big plays
late and they're gonna win the game. Unbelievable, man, unbelievable, stunning,
(02:46:05):
absolutely the first of all. Congratulations um to Andy Reid.
I can only imagine there's gonna be a big stake
waiting for him after the game, but um, after all
he's been through, this has to be a surreal moment
for him. And congratulations to Patrick mahomes to. Uh. It's
the start of a great career. And it's orange. It
is orange, Bobo? How did you know? How I know
(02:46:32):
my drinks and I knew it was gonna be orange.
I wish it was purple for Kobe, but I knew
it was gonna be orange. How about that? Can I
read also this to you, Chris, me and anyone else
dreaming the game through the NFL game Pass hasn't seen
anything since the last Kansas City touchdown. The official NFL
stream has been down for about twenty minutes. Please raise hell, guys. Wow,
(02:46:55):
Apex is over there in Japan right when he's trying
to watch. Yeah, I think so, I think well, Andy
Reid Hall of Famer has some mintion his career. He's
trying to get everyone off the field here chas San
Francisco still has a couple of time outs. I mean,
let's think about this for a moment, guys, and we've
got we've got forty five minutes. We'll take a break
(02:47:15):
coming up in our normal spot in about five minutes
from now, and we'll kind of reaset and get our
thoughts and we'll go through all the all the plays.
I mean, I I think Damian Williams will be your
m v P. Yeah, I think so too. I'm gonna
have to agree with you on that, um. But I
gotta say, I gotta say, if you would have told
anybody that at twenty to ten in the fourth quarter
(02:47:38):
that Kansas City would win this game, they wouldn't be
surprised by the way Homes comes to the sideline because
it's third down. They just used up their last time out.
I believe San Francisco and I think Mahomes said, should
we maybe run a play to try to pick up
the first There's fifty one seconds left and and and
read he goes points is figure to the ground, it goes,
you go down. You go down and takeing the But
(02:48:02):
right as I was saying, finished this point, at some point,
if you would have said not only that Kansas City
would win, you wouldn't be surprised. But if you would
have said thirty one to twenty would end up about
being your final score. I mean, that's just almost unfathomable
without the one interception that took place. While afterwards they
are gonna I think they're gonna have to punt the football.
(02:48:22):
They might just doubt it there, But de seger looks
like Kansas Kansas City is gonna win this final score twenty. Yes,
it's gonna go down to about five seconds left on
the fourth and long coming up here. But what did
we talk about in the first half. If this game
is close in the fourth quarter and we all thought
it would be, which of the two quarterbacks would you want?
We mentioned Jimmy Garoppolo in nineteen games this year, this
(02:48:44):
is twenty one turnovers. We mentioned the magic of Patrick Mahomes,
a guy who had thrown two picks tonight, and when
they need him, he throws too short touchdown passes. They
wind up with three touchdowns in the last six and
a half minutes of a Super Bowl and they're gonna win.
At thirty one into twenty, Garoppolo and the NFC title
win just six of eight passing. Remember San Francisco's defense, yes,
(02:49:06):
was phenomenal in the playoffs. They had sat Kirk Cousins
six times when they completely dominated the Vikings. They got
sacks against Mahomes tonight and the two picks is mentioned,
and still Mahomes pulls it out. Unbelievable. And finally, the
man who was responsible for the term Super Bowl, the
(02:49:27):
man who was integral in really the birth of the
the Kansas City Chiefs. Whenever he bought the Dallas Texans
and moved into Kansas City, got the expansion, a f
L team, started it there and moved it. He in fact,
was trying to get an NFL team originally, and he
noticed on the plane right home when he didn't get one, Hey,
there were other cities that were trying to NFL teams
(02:49:48):
in the NFL. Tell them no too, Why don't I
just start a league? And he was one of the
co founders of the American Football League. Nine it is
a final. Kansas City wins in its first Super Bowl
appearance in fifty years, and you read they're just mobbing him.
They won't let him move there, just all over him.
He just looks stunted. Andy Reid is just yelling right now,
(02:50:14):
hugs from everyone. Some dudes kiss him on the side
of his hand. And guys, here are your nominations for
Super Bowl m v P. For the Chief. Damien Williams,
including the late touchdown, had seventeen carries a hundred four
yards rushing. He also had a t D receiving. Remember
Tyreek Hill was targeted sixteen times tonight. He had nine
catches for one oh five Sammy Watkins five catches for
(02:50:36):
ninety eight yards. Andy Reid is just trying to get
to midfield to shake hands with Kyle Shanahan and I
don't think it's going to happen. I think Kyle Shanahan
is going to have to walk over and meet him.
Miko Hardman sharing a hug right now with Deebo Samuel.
Those are two guys that went at it quite a
bit in the SEC. Patrick Mahomes sharing hugs. The gold
(02:51:00):
and Reddy confetti is falling from the site. What a
beautiful site right now if you're a Chief fan. And
a great stat from the guy. We've been quoting all
night the Bay Area AP writer Josh you Bo. If
you add up Kyle Shanahan's five career drives in the
fourth quarter of Super Bowls, here we go as play callers.
Five career drives in the fourth quarters, four points, only
(02:51:24):
four first downs and a turnover. They had a twenty
to ten lead in the fourth quarter tonight, and remember
what the Falcons play color. They blew a huge lead
and lost to the Bats. Easy on the blowing huge lead,
I again, I felt like it three. That's blowing a
huge league. Take a knee, and this game, I didn't
feel like they gave it away. I'll give you one
(02:51:45):
thing they could have done better, and that is getting
back to Garoppolo. They needed him to win this game,
and he was incapable of that. Tonight, with about five
minutes left, they still had the lead seventeen. There are
plenty of good offenses out there that and put together
a three four minute drive and all but run the
time off the clock and San Francisco went three and out,
(02:52:05):
which included two in completions to stop the clock. Their
whole drive was only about a minute. Casey took over
and scored at one point Garoppolo was eighteen and twenty one.
He finished his one. So was that to at tend
down the stretch? Oh, my goodness, what a horrible stretch
that was. The Chiefs players are doing snow angels right
(02:52:27):
now in the confetti as Chris Meyers works supposed to
game interview with Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes is there. Uh
ba ba, this is pretty incredible right now. They just
put up a stat This is reads two hundred and
twenty second win on February second. Yeah, to to another
(02:52:51):
Kyle Shanahan stat though, if you add up his offensive
coordinator head coach stat's, his teams have been outscored in
fourth quarter and overtime nothing in his two Super Bowls. Wow,
jeez man. He put him in the position to be
up twenty to ten and still they were up seventeen
(02:53:12):
with what was it about six minutes left, Chris, and
then they had to come up with their first punt.
So yeah, it's it seems kind of wild to think that,
you know, you look at Kansas City. Let's we're gonna
have the rest of this show to go through it.
But Kansas City goes into the fourth quarter right with
the football and They're at the San Francisco thirty six
(02:53:35):
yard line on second down and nineteen uh Patrick apart.
Patrick Mahomes gets to scramble r on third down, he
gets picked off, so San Francisco gets the football to
start basically the fourth quarter where the ten point lead.
They start out their dry with a big run by
(02:53:57):
Mostard Garoppolo competes to pass to George Kittle, and then
everything from that point forward for their offense goes backwards.
Um unbelievable. Here's what it sounded like before we go
to break on the Kansas City Chiefs radio network, Mitch Holtis.
First time in fifty years the Kansas City Chiefs Super
(02:54:18):
Bowl champs. The Kansas City Chiefs our champions of Super
Bowl fifty four. Final score Kansas City, San Francisco twenty unbelievable,
three fourth quarter touchdowns Cluny one. It was more icing
on the cake. But let'sten. I get it. I've seen it.
(02:54:43):
I've watched this team. They come back all the time.
But my goodness, Arnie, they looked lost. They looked dead
in the water. Homes turned over twice, their offense wasn't
moving the football. They looked done, and they put three
touchdowns on the board in the fourth quarter, twe in
her exploding whether it's for us or just anybody on
(02:55:04):
Twitter out there, Um, Cody, only bigger choker than the
forty Niners, that fraud poser, Steak of Genius, You're worse
than Shanahan will ever be. Well, they're blaming Shanahan big
time on this one. Well, it sounds like he's blaming you. Well,
when we come back to the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios,
we'll roll through those tweets, keep them coming. Postgame thoughts
(02:55:24):
right now at Steak Ingenius, wan st I and k
I A and Genius in the number one. I'm at
Plank Show and everybody should be following us at Fox
Sports Radio. And when we come back. Instant reaction to
the second Lombardi Trophy that will be headed to Kansas
City the first and fifty years. The Chiefs win the
(02:55:45):
Super Bowl beating the San Francisco forty Niners thirty one
to twenty. It's Arnie and Plank on Fox Sports Radio.
What a scene, What a scene. The Kansas City Chiefs
are your Super Bowl champion. Ends they knock off the
San Francisco forty Niners, thirty one to twenty with an
(02:56:07):
almost unprecedented twenty one fourth quarter. Arnie, we got a
lot of highlights to play throughout the night. We got
a lot of post game to get to. Uh, your
tweets are rolling in like crazy at link show. That's
me Arnie's at stinking genius one. But I mean, in general,
I tried to warn you you were worried about going
(02:56:27):
hurry up. When they did, they scored, but this went
hurry up. They got two touchdowns out of it. This
Chief team, man, they are there's something else. And here's
the thing that that stinks for the rest of the NFL.
I don't think they're going anywhere. I mean I know that,
I know that there'll be some some decisions they have
to make in free agency. Mahomes is probably going to
(02:56:48):
become the first two million dollar player, and that's going
to affect their salary cap and what they can spend
on other guys. Keep in mind, this is a dud
that's still on his rookie contract. But um wholely smokes.
I mean, just absolutely positively unbelievable what we saw playout
tonight is And by the way, I hate to bring
this up, but might as well. Uh, super Bowl fifty five,
(02:57:11):
the Kansas City Chiefs of the favorite at six to one,
eighth to one, the third favorite. There they are announcing
their handing over the Super Bowl to the Super Bowl Trophy,
the Lombardi Trophy. Right now to the Hunt family, Roger
Goodell with Travis Kelsey behind him. I saw somewhere that
Patrick Mahomes had been named the m v P. I
(02:57:33):
haven't seen anything official on it yet, but it looks
as if I thought Damian Williams might deserve it. But
we'll we'll see. We'll wait and see if there is
an official announcement for it. But just in general, Arnie,
what a game. What a game from start to finish,
and the twists and turns, the unpredictable, the excitement, It's
(02:57:54):
just an amazing game. I would say it would be
about an a. You know, most Super Bowls you gotta
blow out or it's not coming down to the end.
We had a fourth quarter rally, they were down twenty
to ten. We didn't think they were gonna pull it off.
We had some back and forth, We had a tie
game at halftime. Um, yeah, I think it was everything
we were hoping for. We didn't get the over, but
(02:58:15):
that's okay. We certainly got a lot of excitement. Not
no holding calls, which is which is kind of good.
Only holding during the regular season, you know, uh, we're
gonna go through the final, but we don't do this
on the show. But it's the Super Bowl and we've
spent all game talking about the big play, so well,
we're all through some in the box score moments. But
it's funny that you mentioned no holding calls. There were
(02:58:37):
only in this game nine penalties between both teams. There
were sixty nine hey, now, penalty yarded penalty yards between
the two teams. Yeah, I did five for forty five
yards on the on the Niners, four for twenty four
(02:58:58):
on the Chiefs. I mean, again, we can debate the
the offensive past interference, which again if you look back,
I mean that was about a forty yard penalty. But
I mean we could talk about the offensive past interference.
We could probably go in depth. It's not a penalty,
but the call on the goal line with Damian Williams touchdown. Regardless, Arnie,
I thought I thought that was I don't want to
(02:59:20):
say well officiated game, because I mean you and I
were sitting here talking during it, we weren't able to
hear what Troy Aikman or Mike Pereiro was saying. But
I like, how about this. I don't know if it
was well officiated, but I sure did like the way
that it was officiated tonight. Did let the guys play?
I agree? And by the way, you said you don't
know what they were saying. A couple of people on
Twitter said, well, that was an awkward post game interview,
(02:59:43):
so I'm gonna have to listen to one, and he
read out to say in that first post game president,
not the press conference, but right after the win, because
I guess it was very awkward according to some people
on Twitter. Let's read a couple of tweets here real quick.
Steve de Sega rolling in at the bottom of the hour.
By the way, in thirty minute from now, Jonas Knox
will slide in and he will take your calls up
(03:00:04):
until Ben Mallard takes over. But there you go. Patrick
Mahomes Officially the Super Bowl fifty four m v p
UH Disney Parks will donate one million dollars to make
a wish on behalf of Patrick Mahomes. You surprised by
Mahomie a little bit. I figure if they were going
to give it to somebody, I was thinking it was
(03:00:25):
going to be Williams, but um yeah, Mahomes was the
second one the two interceptions. Hurts, but he did come
back with him to a victory. I have no problem
with him giving it to Mahomes. Uh Tyler writes, I
guess whoever votes on the Super Bowl m VP doesn't
watch the game and just says the QB of the
winning team is the m v P. A joke. Here's
(03:00:46):
a couple from the infamous DJ. He writes, Andy Reid
has put himself in a gold jacket and a spot
in Canton for sure with his Super Bowl win, even
though he was going to earn it down the road.
And he adds, you might want to have to tell
Master mattress Mac to stop betting. He bet on the
Astros and they went down, and now the forty niners.
(03:01:07):
Had he been on San Francisco, Yes he did. He
bet another million on San Francisco. I didn't know gallery
furniture brought that much money. I may have to buy
a gallery furniture. If you can make that much money
on it, you know, are you might want to get
into the furniture business. I mean as much money as
Mattress Mack has to spend on gambling. I mean, let's go,
let's go. Uh Mark rights. Apparently offense can win championships.
(03:01:34):
It's a good point, um Isaac. Everyone who thought Jimmy
g was ready for prime time was wrong. Oh I'm
not so sure. We're gonna blame this on Jimmy Gee
as I told you one had him up twenty to
tenor we blame me Jimmy g On this was for
San Francisco. I don't think so. And again I know
that when you lose and you have a two score
(03:01:55):
lead in the final stands, if you will, everyone's going
to try to find someone to blame. How can you
let that happen? Can we just pause for a minute
and think the Chiefs are really good? I mean, is
that okay to say? I mean, can it not be
about something? Someone's got to be to blame? We've got
to rip somebody on Twitter? What's wrong with you? And
(03:02:16):
then one more from Maddie, who writes, the only thing
left tonight for the forty niners to celebrate is that
there's a cool skull shaver Razor commercial and Richard Sherman
had that puke look on his face. Well done, well done?
All right? When we come back to the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios, instant reaction from you on Twitter at
(03:02:38):
Plank Show at Stinking Genius. One will roll through the
box scores and the final calls from both teams radio networks. Next,
but first, Steve to Seger comes rolling in with everything
from Super Bowl fifty four and your new champs, the
Kansas City Chiefs. What's going on, Steve? What a great night,
What a great game it was in Miami on Fox TV.
(03:02:58):
Kansas City with a come back, the Kansas City Chiefs,
our champions of Super Bowl fifty four. Chiefs had trailed
San Francisco twenty to ten after three quarters, but beat
the Niners thirty one to twenty, scoring three touchdowns in
the last six and a half minutes. Chief Radio Network
with the call you know when San Francisco had that
(03:03:20):
ten point lead. The last four drives tonight for the Niners,
the most they got on any of the four drives
was twenty seven yards. Meanwhile, Ma Homes and Company got
touchdowns on their last three drives in a row to
come back and take the lead. And remember the first
two drives of their second half where the to Mahomes interception.
(03:03:40):
The last three drives they had were the three touchdowns.
Well then taking a knee at the end that counts
is on downs. But really it's a tale of tale
of two halves inside one half. Really thirty one to twenty.
And yes, Patrick Mahomes was despite the two picks named
super Bowl m v P. He had thrown multiple interceptions
in a game for the first time since that wacky
(03:04:02):
one loss at the Rams a year and a half ago.
And yet still the Chiefs come back to win another
postseason game. All three games this postseason they were down
at least ten points in all three games. Of course
they won. That's the first team to win a Super
Bowl doing that. They hadn't been in a super Bowl
in fifty years. The Chiefs franchise had won been in
Super Bowl one, they won Super Bowl four, and now
(03:04:23):
they take super Bowl fifty four. So Patrick Mahomes not
yet twenty five years old, the youngest player to be
named NFL and the Dolphins and yeah, I'll get to that.
And also to win a Super Bowl in his career
before age Kansas City was the two seed in the
a f C. It had beaten New England head to
head and only moved up to the two seed when
(03:04:45):
the Pats lost to end the regular season. The Chiefs
record in mid November was six and four. Then they
won their last nine games. The World Series winner after
the first month and a half had an awful record,
the Washington Nationals, and they were the best at the end.
It's amazing how the American sports set up is. You've
got to be really hot and granted for an extended

period of time, not just for one game, but you
can overcome a bad star. Chiefs thirty one twenty the
final wow that Kansas City a won a Super Bowl.
We haven't seen them in one in fifty years, but
one it in this fashion. And if for those and
we mentioned the other nominees earlier, for those who thought
maybe Mahomes should not have been Super Bowl MVP got
(03:05:27):
to repeat. The Tyreek Hill was targeted sixteen times tonight.
He had nine catches for a hundred five yards. Damian Williams,
including the late touchdown, seventeen carries a hundred four yards.
He had a t D on the ground and a
t D receiving as well, but it's Mahomes who super

in New Orleans, and then we assume at the New
Vegas Stadium. So that's how things are pretty well mapped
out for five years for Super Bowl sites in the NBA.
Detroit won and over to time over Denver. Derrick Rose
left with a growing injury. Toronto won it's eleventh straight,
ripping Chicago Nets guard Kyrie Irving out at least a
week with the spraying Mee. Novak Djokovic took the Australian

I'm a very proud hashtag girl dad Arnia, but I
am kind of angry that my daughter is more excited
about the debut of the masked Singer. Then. Uh, you
and I are talking to Super Bowl tonight, which is
about to take place right now on Fox, which means
we would like to welcome you into our postgame coverage.
You're on Fox Sports Radio. We're just getting started. The Man,
(03:07:15):
the mid the Legend, Jonas Knox is coming up next.
Uh than Ben Mallard beginning early in the morning, on
to Clay Travis. What a classic to recap, Arnie. I
don't even know where to start, expect to say this
is well. Is Jimmy g gonna catch a lot of
grief now as his career goes on? Is he gonna
be the guy looking over his shoulder till he gets
(03:07:36):
that Super Bowl or what probably, So, I mean I
was gonna say that, I think I feel pretty good
for Andy Reid tonight, who has now set the record
for the most wins by head coach prior to the
first Super Bowl or NFL Championship. He broke Bill Cowards
record Bill Cowards record of one fifty two. But to
your point, yeah, man, I think that absolutely we're gonna
(03:07:58):
be in a situation where people are gonna look at
Jimmy Garoppolo and go, all right, how did you let
that one get away? And are you gonna get this done?
You know, the year after the Super Bowl has not
been kind to the team that falls right. It's always
kind of been a little bit of a deeper hill
that you have to try to climb out of. Things
don't always go so well for you. I mean, you're
(03:08:19):
you're looking at a situation where, you know, San Francisco
not only has questions in the off season with some
potential free agents, but Arnie they also have history that's
working against him quite a bit too. Look, I don't
think I think both teams, as I mentioned, Kansas City
gonna be the favorite for next year San Francisco, the
third favorite young quarterback like Jimmy G as long as
(03:08:41):
he has the weapons around them, and jenn and is
a great coach anyway, so they'll be back. I really
believe that it's gonna be a great career for Jimmy
G and then of course for Mahomes. He starts off
with the Super Bowl. I mean, how many more is
he gonna get He could play his way into and
I'm not even gonna get in, you know, a Hall
of Famer anything, but he could play his way into
one of the top dead quarterbacks in the history of
(03:09:02):
the NFL. Arnie, I'm with you. I'm with you. I mean,
how can you not be impressed with what the Chiefs
seemed to have going forward from here on out? This
is a situation where in Kansas City, they're not slowing down.
They're gonna re up Tyreek Kill now that we've all
forgotten that he nearly got kicked out of the league
(03:09:23):
before the season started. They're gonna pick what thirty second
in the draft, and they're gonna draft like j. K.
Dobbins or Jonathan Taylor, and they're gonna put a freak
running back in that mix. They've revitalized Sammy Watkins career.
Steve Spagnola has read juvenated Tyrone Matthew. They've got Frank
Clark for a couple more years. He's getting paid, aren't
(03:09:44):
you right? They're not going anywhere. And guess who's the
guy behind it all? Patrick bleeping Mahomes. He threw two picks.
We're sitting here midway through midway, We're sitting here late
in the third quarter, early in the fourth quarter, and
what do we say. Dude looks shook, Dude looks rocked,
Dude looks like he's in big trouble. And guess what.
(03:10:06):
They put three touchdowns on the board in the fourth
quarter in the span of like eight minutes and won
the Super Bowl going away. I don't think you can
get too carried away with the hype behind where he
could end up going. That's crazy home doesn't come back
and win it. Though we look at the two interceptions,
say pump the brakes on him being one of the best.
(03:10:28):
He threw two interceptions when it was the most important.
This guy doesn't have it, and we would be questioning
him all through the off season. No, your absolutely, Barney.
It's the difference between winning and losing. You go from
being a choker and an underachiever and the instead of
the goat the load. Is that what Rob Parker calls
(03:10:51):
Tom Brady the luckiest of all time? I mean, you
go from being that to being a champion. And you know,
Kansas City plays in it of his in where oh
Las Vegas is not quite there yet. Maybe they're better
next year and maybe they're a wild card team, but
they're gonna push him. I think the Chargers are gonna
(03:11:11):
if they don't get Brady, they're gonna have a young quarterback,
so they're gonna be somewhat in rebuild mold and maybe
Denver is the closest thing to pushing them right now
with Drew locks emergence. My point in bringing that up
is you're gonna be the favorite to win your division,
which is a home playoff game every year, right So
I'm telling you what, dude, I'm with you a hundred percent.
Chiefs aren't going anywhere. And part of the reason is
(03:11:34):
Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback, not just in the
NFL right now, but Arnie, we might be talking about
it for years to come. By the way, my high
school now has an NBA Championship with Steve Kerr and
now they have a Super Bowl with Mitchell Schwartz to
what the Palal States High School also with us? Are
not with us? But I went to high school there.
That's that's pretty big guys school. Pretty good high school
(03:11:56):
with athletics, isn't it? My friend? Oh no, I would
say you should be end. I've got you talking, all right,
he got you. Gotta add that to the mix as
well too. UM Tyler shared with us a tweet that
Steve was talking about Kyle Shandahan's offenses in the Super Bowl.
You know, the fourth court in overtime, no points has
been talked about, Um, but they scored forty eight points
(03:12:18):
in the first three quarters between what San Francisco did
tonight and the four touchdowns that Atlanta put on the
board a couple of years ago. And again, I know
that Kyle Shanahan is gonna take a lot of grief
and that there's history working against the Niners. But Arnie,
I don't think San Francisco is necessarily going anywhere. But dude,
they got a tough row to ho in that division
(03:12:40):
because I think the Rams are gonna be better next year.
I don't think Seattle is going anywhere. Arizona is on
a bit of an uptick with the rookie of the
year at quarterback. I mean, well, it's gonna be my
point of bringing up the a f C West is
now look at San Francisco going forward. That's a much
tougher spot in the NFC West, I think than what
Kansas City has to deal with in the a f
(03:13:00):
C weston Unfortunately, somebody's got to take the blame, and
I think it's gonna have to be Shanahan on this
time around. People gonna say, um, his play calling got conservative,
that they blew a ten point fourth quarter lead. They're
not gonna get on Jimmy g They're not gonna get
on the defense. I think Shanahan is gonna have to
take the bulk of of the of the punishment on
(03:13:21):
this one. No, listen, I'm not disagreeing with you, but
I'm just telling you, I don't think they're gonna fall
off the face of the earth like we've seen with
other Super Bowl participants that when we come back. Let's
roll through some of the good tweets that have been
rolling in. Let's talk a little bit about where we
go from here and let's recap an incredible night of football.
(03:13:42):
The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champs, and we
got one final segment to wrap it up. Next on radio,
we're trying to effort Chiefs defensive lineman Mike Panell. Uh.
How's it looking Lee? Are you feeling good? What's it
(03:14:04):
looking like right now? We'll see maybe we'll make it happen. First,

(03:14:26):
Discover dot com slash cash back Match, And as we
come to you from the getic Fox Sports Radio studios,
our final segment Aarni and plank Man. What tonight? A
lot of really good tweets rolling in, So let's let's
get through some of these. This is um Let's see
here everyone who is bringing up commercials see everything on that. Huh?
(03:14:49):
I appreciate it, Like Kim who rise, did you see
the Hulu spot? How about the Hulu spot where Tom
Brady says I'm not going anywhere. Does that mean he's
staying in New England? And what do you think? We
didn't really get a chance to watch or listen to
it because commercial breaks were kind of crazy with you know,
getting sound and talking to Bobo and Lee and Steve
(03:15:10):
and making sure we've got everything lined up. I don't
know if I would ever, and I mean ever, put
too much into a commercial. Well, thus they made like
two of them, and then Tom says, okay, I want
you to run spot this one saying I'm coming back
or could you imagine said I ain't coming back the
heck with you guys? Could you imagine if you did that?
(03:15:31):
But listen, we'll talk about that coming up in just
a bit. But man, right now, Eric b Enemy joins
us Life in the super Bowl? Eric, my man, congratulations,
How does this feel right now to be a Super
Bowl champion? This is an amazing feeling, you know, just
watching our guys find a way to first severity to
the adversity that was to face with. I couldn't be
(03:15:52):
more proud of our guys, and more than anything, I'm
happy for Big Red. You know, he's had a hell
of a career as a head coach had a number opportunities,
but I noticed a sweet for him, and our guys
wanted to win it for him. I'm happy that we
found a way to get it done. What were your
thoughts going when you were down twenty to ten? Uh
and you started going into the hurry up offense? You
(03:16:16):
know what? And this goes sounds crazy. For whatever reason,
we like spotting guys, spotting teams points and then we
just find a way to rally. But our guys never
lose their composure. We find a way to remain pois
under pressure. Guys make it a little frustrated, but it's
a common effect that we have on the sideline when
we just talked to things, we just wanted to find
(03:16:37):
a way to make a play and didn't worry about
the next play when that play a live. So our
guys did a great job of finding a way to finish,
but also making plays when things wasn't quite perfect. That's
the sign of a true teage. That's the sign of
great character. That's the true sign of the exceens of
who we are. The all time leading rusher in Colorado
(03:16:59):
Buffalo history and Super Bowl champion Eric the Enemy is
joining us Eric a couple more coach real quick, and
we'll let you get back to celebrating the thing that
I noticed. And we've been on the air through the
whole Super Bowl, there was no panic. How does this
team and how has this team stayed so calm even
when their backs have been against the wall and you've
trailed in every playoff game so far this year? How
(03:17:19):
does this team maintain its composure? You know what? It
started in Denver when Pat went down. Our guys rallied
behind Matt Moore when he stepped up, and they said, hey,
we got you back. You displayed run the offense, and
the thing that I'm proud of as our offensive group
and even our defense, is that we've found a way
(03:17:40):
to make things happen and make it right when things
aren't perfect. Just like when you're going through life. Things
happen in life, but you gotta find a way to
keep overcoming those hurdles. Our guys did that, and they
played through it and they found a way to win.
And that's all that matters. What did Andy Reid say
to you in the fourth He said, Hey, we gotta
(03:18:00):
open it up. We gotta go hurry up, we gotta
go deep. Did he say anything to you at all? Well,
we just said, hey, we we just need to get
a hurry up offense and make it happen. And so
we got not hurry up offense. That guy started making
some plays. Fat made a few plays with his feet,
a guy's rally, and like I said, throughout that whole
entire process, our guys made poise under pressure. And that's important.
(03:18:22):
If you want to be a great team, you gotta
learn how to remain calm in needed situations. And that
started in training camp. That starts in our today. The
way we train, and like I said, that's the way
we practice. We put our guys in tough situations. And
so they've been dealing with this all year and it's
it's done. An excellent job to finish it today. Congrats coach.
(03:18:45):
I'm so happy for you. Um this means obviously a
lot to you, and we appreciate your time and enjoy
the celebration. I appreciate you. Thank you guys, Thanks coach. Wow, dude,
great job by Dann Buyer. Wow, how about that? It
could be enemy All right, give me Blake Bell in
the final thirty seconds buy or let's go the bell Dozer,
gotta pass. Damian Williams should have been the m v P.
(03:19:09):
Let's get out of here. Jonas Knox is coming up next. Arnie,
you got like sixty seconds. Anything else you want to
add from what was an amazing night. Congrats to Andy Reid,
Congrats to Patrick Mahomes, Eric the Enemy, Kansas City fans,
the people of Kansas City well deserved, and even congratulations
to the San Francisco fans. Uh you guys will be back.
(03:19:31):
Was a great super Bowl. I don't know as a
fan of a team that's arrival of Kansas City, I
don't know if I could ever be happier for a
moment like this because of guys like Eric b Enemy,
Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes. This whole week has been obviously
a hard week because of the loss of Kobe, but Arnie,
(03:19:51):
it's been a harder week because both of these guys
are great, both of these coaches are great, both of
these teams are great. Arnie, See you next Sunday night.
Have a great the rest of your week. Buddy, great job, Bubba,
great job leader out for I was saying for Steve
this Seger for the editors, I'm playing Jonas is next.
