Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio or turn Good Evening
everyone is. We're coming to you live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios. It's brought to you by Geico. Did
you know that fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent
of more in car inshurts? All you have to do
is visit dot com for a free rate. Quote Aaron Torres,
(00:21):
Arnie Spanie, how are you doing tonight? Torres? I'm doing fantastic.
Arnie Spaniard, how are you doing up there in Vermont
with the quarantine that you've been in for ten fifteen
years now? It seems like it seems like I've been
in quarantine for a long time. Well, you have been
in in this, uh the outer reaches of America. I
don't even know if you're even technically in America up
there in Vermont, but continue how you we're separated out here,
(00:45):
but um, we have a bunch of the nursing homes
that's getting hit kind of hard. Otherwise we're okay, we're
spread out. So um, yeah, you're a quarantine, but you
can still go out and walks. I took a picture.
I went on a walk a couple of nights ago. Um,
we didn't pass anybody. We were liking, uh walkway that
goes behind our house to the open fields and then
um a mile pass our out house and all that stuff.
(01:09):
You don't see anybody out here, nobody. It's surreal. I
mean even here in l A, which will it goes
without saying, is a bit more densely populated than Vermont.
It is little bit, just a little bit, but even
you I mean I can walk at certain points of
the day down the middle of the road and if
you catch the right road on the right moment, there
are no cars. And so uh, you know, we'll open
(01:31):
the show like we have the last two weeks, where
our thoughts are with people that are working less or
are out of work, all that stuff. It's a crazy time.
It's even a crazy time here in l A, where
it is a totally different commuter, totally different drive, a
totally different community around where I live. Absolutely and look,
I know people are bummed out. It was a tough week. Um,
it's gonna be a tough couple of weeks. But we're
(01:53):
gonna get your bay. We're gonna do this. We will
do this. Um, don't get down, do the best you can.
You get up every day and then next couple of
weeks hopefully will see that the client will we'll see that.
Uh you know what do they call it? Straightening the curve?
And uh, we'll get through it together and hopefully we'll
get back on track. Fir another score, Torres, I'm instinking
(02:14):
genius one yet to us. Listen, we have a lot
of hot sports topics to get into today. Yeah, but
somebody celebrated in eightieth birthday yesterday, Happy birthday, eight years old.
You know, people are gonna believe you. People are gonna
start believing you when you say that, No, it wasn't
(02:35):
my eightieth birthday eighty one? Did I miss a here?
Very good? I hate you al right. First of all,
it was my fifth. It was supposed to be my
fifty seventh birthday yesterday. That supposed to be okay, Well,
I'll give it to you. In sports terms, you know
how the n C double A granted the extra year
of eligibility for the spring sports athletes. I'm taking a
(02:56):
red shirt. You're on this day brow because you can't
tell or what. Yeah, you know what it's it's it's
a downtime. Um, you know, it's a tough month. Obviously,
and it's just been a tough year. I think the
red shirt this birthday. It's a tough month. We unemployment
is at an all time high, and Artie doesn't get
to blow out a couple of candles on his cake.
(03:17):
What's wrong with you? You're sick. I just I'm gonna
red shirt this birthday. So instead of going to fifty seven,
I'm gonna stay at fifty six for one more year
and I'll just pick it up on the back end.
So wouldn't that be great if you could red shirt
one year? Uh? And you could just say, you know what,
I I don't want to get a year older. I'm
gonna red shirt this year. Everybody was just like sports right,
come on, everybody would take twenty nine, right, I was.
(03:40):
You know, it's funny because I was thinking more forty nine.
But but you're young, so of course you're taking twenty night.
I'm all, I'm taking forty nine. It's bad. I don't
even I'm thirty four. I don't really remember my thirtieth birthday.
And then really, other than that, all the birthdays are
kind of just running. I was never a huge birthday,
got to be done with. But they're kind of running
aga other at this point, you mean me neither. You
(04:02):
just said you're not you're you're not counting this year
because you can't celebrate your birthday. It's literally said, I'm
not counting this year. But I don't want to get
older too, and get that right, and I don't need
to get another year older. So I'm gonna read if
you could red shirt one year, what did you say
you'd be twenty nine? You'd red shirt that year when
you were going to thirty? You know, I don't know.
I mean, twenty nine was good, thirty was good for me.
(04:22):
I don't know if I would red shirt. You know,
I don't know if I would red shirt. I mean
to me, it is what it is. You get a
year older. You know, I got some grays coming in
my beards growing out. And tell me, every lady in
this country wouldn't take a red shirt year if you
offer them one. What's wrong with your You're disgusting, Oh
my goodness, in your old age. You're just you're you're
(04:42):
showing your true colors in your old age. I gotta
tell you what I got for my birthday now, he's's appropriate. Now,
come on, it's a Family Show. First of all, you
with the coronavirus, there's nothing like that's going on. I
want you to know that in the house too. Yes,
thank you exactly. But um and it didn't even take
the coronavirus to come up with excuse. I got a
Arizona backpack, which I love, like a gym bag, which
(05:05):
I don't know what I'll use it for if I
ever go play basketball again. And um so I in
an Arizona T shirt. So I got my Arizona stuff.
And then I got my practical present, which kind of
surprised me. I guess it's the times we live in.
I got a uh it's it's a box. I didn't
even know what it was. At first. I thought it
was a jewelry box. I don't have any jewelry. I
(05:26):
don't even have a watery, have a wedding ring. Um,
it's a box that you put in your phone or
credit cards or everything and at these sanitizes everything. Oh
really that sounds very confusing. First of all, kind of
gift is that? I mean, I don't know it's my
you know, my wife's like, it's the hot geft right now,
hot geft right now? You guys have been living in
(05:47):
quarantine up there for too long. This doesn't sound like
a hot gift anywhere that. I've heard everybody's buying de
sanitizers and you put your credit cards in there and
your wallet, you're, you know, whatever you want so it
stays clean so you don't get germs and stuff like that.
Do you have to like rebuy sanitizer for it though?
I don't know, don't I just still sitting on my desk.
I'm not gonna actually plug it in. She's gonna have
(06:08):
to do it for me. I don't know what. How
do you even said you have to put drops in
it and stuff like that? All right? Well, at least
I got my Arizona stuff right? At least have you?
And have you improved your man cave yet? Because we
this was a big hot topic. You posted a picture
of your quote unquote home studio, which looks like a
college dorm room the day after the day was office.
(06:30):
It's the day people move in before they've gone to
Target or the school store to buy stuff. It's just
a wall in a desk. It's just it's there's prisoners
that are living better than you. Right now. I actieved
my room is a lot bigger than the prisons. I
want you to know that. And I put up all
this foam and stuff, so I figure, I don't know
why I have to talk into the phone, like my
voice is gonna bounce all over the all over the
(06:52):
offense and stuff like this. I am gonna build a
man cave downstairs and um and put up all my
memorabili and stuff like that. Once I get that, going
to what kind of cool memorability got? I got all
kinds of stuff? Oh jeez, all kinds of stuff. Um,
just sitting in my in my basement, just collecting dust.
I don't even have it up right now. I'm like
Frank o' harris signed used jersey, Lynn Swan what Lynn
(07:16):
Swan signed jersey? And Arnold Palmer signed lithograph Jack Nicholas one. Um.
I used to go to the fights in Vegas and
every time we have a lighter on, I'd have him
sign a boxing glove for me. So what kind of
boxing gloves you got? You know? It's funny some of them.
You can see the signatures. There's like ten or fifteen
on there. Somebody can't even read anymore. And they're all
(07:37):
famous people because they it's fights that you flew us
out the Vegas for big, big fights. So when you
were living in Vegas, I would assume no, no, I
know that's what I was in l A doing Los Angeles.
Bring us out the Vegas and do the fights. But
I have all kinds of great memory. But I gotta
put it up. I gotta gotta. It's better than that
dorm room you're living in. I bet your son's dorm
room is nicer than what you would Probably I'll get
(07:59):
it fixed up. You want to get in aeron Underscore Tours.
I'm a stink of genius one. It's a Saturday night. Everybody,
take a deep breath. We'll get through this together. Um,
we'll try to stay positive. I know a lot of
a lot of people being negative out there. And I'll
tell you what if if you want to go and
let some steam off, you could. You could send us
a tweet. I don't care. UM check in with us,
(08:20):
let us know how you're doing. We we try to
do this like every Saturday night where you're listening to
us from Aaron Underscore Tours. I'm a stink of genius one.
Just let us know what neck of the woods you're
listening to us from um, how things are out there
in your area and if if everybody's staying safe, So
kind of like a roll call, you know what I mean, Tores.
I love it, No, I love it, and it is amazing.
You know. We are on obviously later at night and
(08:42):
it's a Saturday, and people aren't driving as much as
they normally are. But we always love hearing from people
across the country, including our buddy Chewy, who listens every
single week. Last week gotta shout him out, so I
don't want to get yelled at this time. Even in
a quarantine, people are coming at Torres trying to be
a nice guy. So but now we love hearing from
people eron Underscore tours. I'm it stick of genius one
um we got sometimes I want to go ahead and
(09:02):
start with the President had a conference call with the
commissioners of what eight or nine actually what ten or
eleven leagues out there? Um, just to kind of sum
it up because I want fans to get back in
the arenas Trump said, UM, I think it's whenever we're ready,
as soon as we can, obviously, and the fans want
to be back to they want to see basketball and
baseball and football and hockey. They want to see their sports.
(09:25):
They want to go out onto the golf courses and
breathe nice, clean, beautiful fresh air. Um. President didn't give
any day because I can't tell you a date, but
I think it's gonna be sooner rather than later. I
know people have been criticizing for him. I don't care
if you're a Republican and democratic independent of socialist. It
makes no difference to me. I think we should all
be on the same side here. Um, I have no
(09:46):
problem with the President being optimistic. I'm optimistic. I don't
know if it's gonna happen sooner than later. That's what
I'm hoping for. And the next two weeks are gonna
be real critical. Yeah. It's interesting because last week we
talked a lot about kirk Curb Street and kirk Curb Street.
I felt made a pretty definitive statement. He said, I
would be stunned if if we had football in the fall.
I think our president today, UM, I don't think he
(10:09):
made anything definitive, but I think he is optimistic, like
you said, and I think this is something that we
as a society need. I know, the guys during the week.
I'm sure on your local show talked a lot about
us needing the NFL Draft, and some people might disagree
it's not the time to focus on sports. I actually
think it's the exact opposite. I think we need as
much uh, you know, entertainment things to distract us from
(10:31):
what is going on in the real world. I'm in
favor of holding the draft, and I'm in favor of
our president giving an optimistic timeline and giving us kind
of a carrot at the end of the stick to say, hey,
if we do what we're supposed to do, we believe
we'll be able to watch football and be in the
stands come September. Who is it Adam Schefter that was
complaining about them holding the draft? Is that what it
was earlier in the week there Torres. Was it him complaining?
(10:52):
I believe I don't even know. I mean, I saw
some pushback. I believe it was Adam Schefter. I'm not
even positive. Yeah, because you know, look, I think we
should have some type of normalcy. Look, it's tough enough
when you've got a quarantine, when we shut down all
the restaurants, all the non essential businesses. Um, you can
only take take out for the restaurants. Uh. Look, pushing
(11:12):
the draft back, I don't know if that's gonna make
a difference. It's really the next two weeks that are
going to be the hardest for us, and hopefully things
will have a uh you know, a light at the
end of the tunnel. Look, we've we've canceled all the
sports right now, we're we're doing the social distancing. We're
now with the masks outside canceling the draft. I don't
(11:33):
think it's in necessity we have to do. We have
to have some type of normalcy, some type of sports
for people to take their mind off this, and I
think that's the distraction we need at this point. Yeah. Absolutely,
And it's interesting because you kind of go across sports
and actually it's Dana White from UFC has been pushing
to get uh UFC card by the end of the month,
and there's issues of whether it will be get done
(11:54):
or not. But this has basically been his argument is
we need a distraction, We need people to know, um
you know that one. We need to provide an entertainment outlet.
But we have to take this illness head on. And
I'm not saying people shouldn't follow all the protocols that
are in place. But if if Dana White feels like
UFC can safely put on this card, I am completely
(12:15):
in favor of it. In the same way of the NFL.
I just think these are really tough times. It's really
hard not to get taken in by the news, what
you're seeing every day, as totals rise and things of
that nature. Anything we can do to to one distract us,
but to make us feel normal again, and it isn't normal,
but for three hours, if we can watch Joe Burrow
(12:36):
on a Skype call or a zoom call talk about
what it feels like to be a Cincinnati Bengal, I
think it's good for society. We've talked about it over
the last couple of weeks. Aren't in times of crisis?
Sports have really kind of come to the forefront to
kind of distract us from those crisis And it's obviously
not on the field. But I think it'd be great
if we could get this draft going as planned. Adam
says on Twitter, I need some laughs. Chance for anything
(12:59):
ever coming back, I hope for anything coming back, not
just sports. It seems to be growing smaller and smaller
with each passing day. I'm more than if I'm ever
gonna be with my loved ones again. Right, And Adam,
you know, I appreciate you checking in. I know a
lot of people are are very down to the dumps.
We're gonna get our sports back, You're gonna see your
loved ones again. Um. This is not the way life
(13:21):
will be forever. Right. It will be like this for
a little bit, but then we'll get back to the
norm and we'll be back out there. And I really
believe that in my heart, I don't think this is
the way we're gonna be living life for you know,
for the next like fifty years. No, I agree a
hundred percent. And you know what I would say to
Adam is I know he said, I don't believe that
I'm going to be you know and seeing my family
(13:41):
anytime soon. Listen, you know one thing that I would say,
use this time productively, not only Adam, but all of us,
myself included. There's been times where I've felt lower or whatever.
Get on the phone, get on FaceTime. If you have
the ability, call friends, call family. I spent an hour
on the phone or on FaceTime with my mom and
my stepdad today it was great catching up with them.
It was great just having the time to do it.
(14:03):
And so I know it's not really sports related, but
it is. This is a time that you can take
advantage of some stuff. Catch up with some people. Don't
worry about not being able to see them physically, take
the time to reconnect them. I just want to kind
of add that in Aaron Underscore Tours. I'm instinking Genius
one will go through each of the week's when we
think they're gonna come back if they do come back. Also,
we'll get to more of your tweets. All that coming
(14:23):
off off and running on a Saturday right here on
Fun Sports Radio. Right the own or rent your own home,
Sure you do. Fortunately, Geico makes it easy to bundle
your home and auto insurance. It's a good thing too,
because having a home is hard work. Go to Geico
dot com, get a quote and see how much you
can save Geico dot com. It's that easy. He's Aaron
(14:46):
torres Amante, Spaniard. You can reach us at Aaron Underscore
touris um instink of Genius one Tours. We got a
lot on Twitter. I just want to get to a
couple of them. I want to start with Sharky, who's
out there in Vegas? He goes, I'm positive that I
don't want to see the NBA or the NFL play
any games this year. Time for the owners and athletes
to check themselves and realize that the fans come first,
(15:06):
they are secondary. I don't think anybody would disagree with
him about the fans are first and the players are first. Two.
But the question is, well, what's safe when we get
a cure for this, when we have a vaccine? When
when I could promise a hundred percent that nobody will
get it because that that's never gonna happen, or as
(15:27):
it's never gonna happen. Well, and not only that, but
if even if the fans come first, Yeah, you can
put twenty fans in an arena, but there's gonna be
five million watching at home. So aren't you doing the
fans of greater service by playing games and assuming player safety.
Nobody's saying we want two players to put their lives
on the online. But aren't you doing the fans a
bigger service by playing a game with no fans there
(15:49):
as opposed to waiting until potentially fans can re enter
the arena. Yes, yes you are. But thank you for
that that sound effect. I love it. It's just the
bell of student. But stop. But but but but the
thing is this, You know you could catch it just
being an arena with twenty or errand you could go
to the market where there's five people and there are
(16:11):
nobody in there, just pick up something off the shelf
that may have some germs on it and get it
that way. Also, you're My point is it's it's never
gonna be a hundred percent. It's never gonna be I'll
guarantee you one that you're never gonna get. It's never
gonna be like that again, it just won't. Well, not
not only that, but I mean even if we find
a vaccine, I mean there's a flu shot, and fifty
thousand people still died from the flu this year. And
(16:33):
I'm not trying to compare one to the other. And
that's been a big hot topic these last couple of weeks.
I'm not saying, uh, it's the flu or it's less
than less worse, less as bad than the flu. I'm
just saying is that you know there are there are
liabilities when you go into that arena, when you as
you said, already go to the grocery store when you
leave your house, when you stay in your house. That's
part of this that people aren't you know, appreciating, is
(16:56):
um the physical mental toll of being in your house
all day and so UM. Obviously, whether it is basketball
and MLB football, whatever, we want the players to be
say first and foremost before they step on the field
of the court. But I think it does more good
for more fans if we're playing without fans than not
playing at all. Jedi two says he's a faithful listener.
(17:17):
He's out there in Los Angeles, West Covina driving uber eats.
It's more quiet than normal. Gotta go out and make
the money and make sure people get their food. So
we appreciate you out there. Angry Uh says check it
in from Cape Cod. I love that time of being
stuck in the damn house. However, I'm taking it in
the stride my best to our fellow Americans out there.
(17:38):
And Bake says walk could my dog in South East
Portland's well if that's Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine. Um,
listening to your first hour like every week folks out here.
Um in my barrio today's stores are crowded. So why
are stores crowded? Well, I guess markets and stuff. I
guess it's gonna be crowded out there to us. Yeah,
I mean Saturday is still a day where fewer people
are working, even if it is remotely. There's a lot
(18:01):
of good ones coming in. Brandon Brendan checking in from
Riverside County, where he says he now has to cover
his face and no social gatherings Chewy. We mentioned we
appreciate his support. J You're gonna get an Arizona face
mask is what I'm gonna get one of those. Well,
JT said he's checking in from Syracuse. Arnie, How the
heck are you always on during Arizona games. I've got
the nineties seven championship game on right now. If it
(18:23):
isn't live, we'll run it again, huh. I know, so
a lot of people are checking in it. We'll get
to more Aaron Underscore tours. I'mould stick a genius one.
Where are you're listening? Kind of like roll call check in.
I know a lot of people are going through tough times. Um,
if you want to just let off a little steam, um,
sometimes just texting us say in a loo. Maybe people
are by themselves. Um, you can't call in and you
(18:43):
just wanna, you know, get some interaction. We're here for you.
I want to ask you this are obviously we got
the four sports. I'm gonna push football back for just
a second. What happens to something like baseball if there's
such a limited season or they don't get off at all.
I think the NBA and NHL could survive, but I'm not.
I'm not at the point. Let's say for the NBA
(19:04):
that I'm willing to go ahead and sacrifice next season,
you know what I mean? Let me rephrase that, I'm
not willing to have this season drag out until August
or September and then start them off on Christmas, which
is going to affect them the following year. At one point,
you gotta stop throwing bad good money after bad money.
Maybe there's gonna be a time where we just say,
(19:24):
all right, enough is enough, let's concentrate on baseball and
the NFL. So you're saying, are you're talking about, uh,
the NBA and the NHL is what you're saying? Or
you're talking about, Well, first NBA and NHL. Correct, Yeah, No,
And I think this is a realistic um. You know,
that's a realistic conversations and to take a listener behind
the scenes. It was a text conversation you and I
were having today when we heard that the president was
(19:46):
meeting with the commissioners all these major sports, and that
was the question was is he gonna put us a
foot down and say, you know, NBA, NHL, We're just
not gonna do this. And obviously that's not what happened
at all. But listen, we all want sports to come back,
but you just said it. There's a point of inflection
where it's just not feasible. It's funny. During the break,
Eric Roberts, our producer, and I were talking, is you know,
(20:08):
how far can you go with the NBA before it
bleeds into next season and impacts next season? And so
I hope we find a way. I don't believe necessarily
that the players are as excited about all these alternate plans,
which may include playing everybody under one roof in Vegas
or whatever. But I'm with you is we're gonna get
to a point here and I think it's actually gonna
be pretty soon where players or excuse me, where these
(20:32):
leagues are gonna have to make some really tough decisions
about just canceling seasons for the NBA. Think of at
you know, at first, I'm like, oh, I think that
we talked about this last week where I'm like, okay,
you know, if we can get to get together in
Vegas and and sequester them kind of and have a
bubble and play in front of the people, then I'm thinking, Okay,
wait a minute. You got the teams, the coaching staffst
(20:53):
what the clockkeeper, the scorekeeper, the the medical staff, the
people that clean up the arena. Uh, the people that
work there. There's gonna be some people there tours. I'm like,
are we really gonna have all the teams there too?
Maybe if we're gonna play in front of no fans,
maybe we just stick to the schedule. We have an
end of the season schedule and get to the playoffs
(21:15):
and you still play in you know, in the hometowns,
but you just have nobody there and that way one
team travels and that's just the way it's got to
be in or maybe you do you know, in the
best of seven they're all two three two? Is that
the way it is? Um? Maybe you just do all
two three two, So you can you cut down on
the travel. You gotta do something instead of just putting
them ball in one place. I disagree. I mean because
(21:37):
you know, my whole thing is, if home crowds aren't
an issue, then you have to be fair to these teams.
And you know you can't just have one team. You can't.
You can't just have one team. Say, if the Celtics
and Lakers make the finals, you can't just have the
Celtics coming to l A and having to sit here
for a week in hotels while the Lakers are getting
(21:58):
to play from home. That's fair. No, no, But I
I would say two three two or something like that.
But why are we traveling at all? Why? Why? Why
can't you just bring everybody to one place and play
out to play. If you're telling me we can't even
travel but we're playing in front of empty arenas, then
we've come back too soon. Um. If you're telling me, okay,
we're we're cutting out the twenty fans, but now we're
(22:19):
worried about fifteen guys getting into playing, plus coaching staff
and flying from l A to Dallas for or l
A to Sacramento or LA to wherever, well, then we're
coming back too soon? Are and we were travels part
of sports. You can't cut out all the traveling. If
we can't travel, then we're coming back too soon. Then,
my friend, we can't do that. Well, it goes back
(22:40):
to what you said a minute ago. I mean, if
they take all the proper precautions, I mean, listen, there's
always gonna be some risk involved. It's just a question
of how much risk is too much risk? And so
so whether we play him in Vegas, you know, if
if if under the hypothetical conversation that happened this week,
everybody's gotta fly to Vegas. Well, even if we were
playing on true home or it's the Celtics, then have
(23:01):
to travel to the Lakers. So some travel is going
to be involved somewhere to bring back the sports army.
So um Paul from the Bills Mafia, Yester, you took
a twenty five minute drive from Buffalo to Niagara Falls
to get out of the house. It was a ghost town,
no tourists, nothing open, only me and a few other
people just crazy out there. Yeah. You see something like that,
then you see the people in your neck of the
woods in l a crowding. What beaches are farmers markets
(23:24):
and stuff like that. Uh, I haven't seen any of
that in a while. Um, the commission the Commissioner, the
the mayor has been very vocal about, you know, snitch
on your neighbors. Basically, if you see somebody doing something
against protocol, let us know, will even give you a
cash reward. Now I didn't look into it because I'm
not a snitch arning Spaniard, but uh, there was a
lot of that conversation coming from the mayor of if
(23:46):
you see something that goes against protocol, let us know
because we want to know about it. And Aaron, let's
give a shout out to Isaac. We know people are
going through a bad time. Um. Isaac says, thanks for
being the distraction. Very grateful for live radio while alone
in the Twin Cities, and my mom and sister have
COVID nineteen being a hard nine days, but they sound
much better, so hopefully it's over. Sometimes you gotta smile
(24:08):
through hard times. UM. Amen to that. Isaac. Sorry you're
going through a tough time, but um, obviously the good
news is they're gonna pull through and they're gonna get
through this, just like a lot of the other Americans
are too in this one tours. Yeah, and that's something
that I've just kind of just tried to remind everybody
that I come in contact with every day, is that
everybody's going through something. Obviously, Isaac the most extreme of
(24:29):
his family members involved in this, and we obviously are
our thoughts with Isaac. But other people have are out
of work, have less work, medical professionals have more work.
You're working from home, your work, you know your your
kids are and I mean, everybody's going through something. Uh,
it's a very stressful time. Don't feel like you're going
through this stuff by yourself, whoever you are, And you
could drop us a tweet on Twitter, real simple, Everyone
(24:51):
under score tours IM and sticking genius one um which
league has to come back or they could be in
big trouble. We'll get to that also coming up next.
But let's see what's trending first, checking with everybody. Steve
to Sega, what's going on tonight, Hello, gentlemen, and yes,
in Los Angeles. Initially in the last couple of weeks,
they said they closed the beaches, and then there was
(25:11):
local news video of so many people at the beaches.
Then they closed the parking to the beaches, and now
the parks are closed and everything else. And yes, violations
of the Safer at Home order can be reported online.
In Los Angeles, they're taking this very seriously. In fact,
you mentioned the President's commented as press conference today that
I think it'll be sooner rather than later that sports
(25:32):
comes back. The l A Times column out tonight that
will be published tomorrow morning quote this headline. Unless experts
are wrong, it'll be later rather than sooner for the
return of sports. Uh to just to tell you how
many cases reported cases have the explosion of that in
the US, and CNN has kept a tally. One guy
(25:53):
in specific, the first hundred thousand cases in this country
to be reported, it took sixty six day days to
get up to a hundred thousand cases reported. To go
from one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand was five days. Well,
we're testing morals, and now only in the last three
days we've gone from two hundred thousand to three hundred thousands.
(26:14):
So yes, absolutely, to go from one hundred obviously, to
do that in five days, yes, there are more tests there.
It took only three days, the last three days to
go from two hundred thousand cases to three hundred thousand.
It makes it does make sense really quick though, because
obviously about two two and a half weeks ago is
when we started taking social distancing seriously, and it takes
(26:34):
about two weeks to get uh. Sometimes the symptoms stay
it for you for up to two weeks, so that
the timing works out. And I know some of the
conversation today was that hopefully in the next week to
ten days to two weeks is when we see the
peaks and then hopefully things start going the other direction.
You most places started to take it seriously there in Florida,
I think was an exception a couple of weeks ago.
A couple of quotes from Dr Fauci and his press
(26:55):
conference tonight. I think what people don't fully appreciate is
that putting on a mask when you're on out side
is more to prevent you from infecting someone else. If
everybody does that, then we're protecting each other. He also said,
as far as the stay at home orders, I say
to everyone listening in all the states, they should be
doing that. Staying at home, even if you feel that
relatively there may be fewer cases in your city or
(27:18):
town or state that will change. End quote. The President
did have his conference called today with sports commissioners, reportedly
hopes to have fans back in stadiums by August and September.
The California Governor, for one, said he is not anticipating
having fans in stadiums in his state in August and September.
Into the Basketball Hall of Fame today, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan,
and Kevin Garnet among those ALSHO elected former college coach
(27:42):
Eddie Sutton. And Yes, this announcement came today when the
final four would have started. By the way, all of
this year's finalists will be inducted. They voted yes on
all of them. Rudy tom Jonovitch from the Rockets is in.
Kim Mulke Baylor Women's coaches in Tamika catchings ten time
w NBA All Stars in also Division two coach BARBERA.
Stevens and Patrick Bouman x Phobia executive. NFL Draft is
(28:04):
scheduled to start April. Some teams reportedly will be drafting
from home, not the office. Fox TV will air a
different Super Bowl every Sunday afternoon three pm Eastern. Tomorrow,
It's Green Bay, Pittsburgh. Back to you, all right, thanks,
I was gonna call you tores about that. I've been
called worse. At least you are called exactly. Oh wow.
(28:27):
Welcome back to the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Is brought
to you by Geiko. It's easy to say fifty percent
on board card shops with Geico. Just go to geiko
dot com or give them a call one eight nine
four seven otto. The only hard part figuring out which
way is easier. You can get it on Twitter. Eric
on the score Tours, I'm instincting genius when getting a lot.
I hope you're keeping track of this because you're answering
(28:47):
people back. It's like you're doing a show with me
and then you're doing a show on Twitter. For crying
out loud. Well, I appreciate everybody checking in with us.
Let's read. Well, let me know which ones you're answering.
Was I'm seeing your name pop up, I see all
the other tweets pop up up, and I'm trying to
keep up with Anie. For people who didn't hear the
top of the show, Aren'tie just turned eight one? He's
(29:07):
a little grumpy. It's past his bedtime. Juice, come on
too many tweets are coming in. He doesn't like it,
So send your tweets. You know, let's bat, let's you know,
let's balance him out. But anyway, continue are all right, um,
you know, and we will get to the tweets in
a little bit. And I'm just talking in general. I
saw this on Twitter. Obviously you got the die heart
(29:28):
baseball fans, NBA fans, n h L fans, But then
you also have the casual fans, which sport would suffer
the most if those three didn't come back this year.
I'm not gonna put football in that, and I always
think football will survive anyway. Um, somebody bought a baseball
the casual fan won't come back. They could be in
big trouble. But I guess you could say that about
all three of the sports, couldn't you tours all three
could be in trouble for the following year or no. Yeah,
(29:51):
you know, I think it's about equal. Like to me,
I don't think that many people pay attention to regular
season baseball besides their own team. I think the appeal
of going to baseball is, uh, it's a fun way
to get out of the house, you know, hangout. Yeah,
like especially if you live in St. Louis or Milwaukee
or one of these cold places that you're you're in
your indoors all winter. You enjoy going to the game
(30:13):
and grabbing a ball, grabbing a beer and a hot dog.
And so I don't know that it changes all that much.
I don't know that hockey. Uh maybe I don't know.
If hockey is the most to lose, I would think
it would have the most to game, though, don't you
if it's somehow came back ahead of the other sports.
Let's say hockey was willing to come back and the
(30:33):
NBA wasn't. I'm not saying that's gonna happen. I'm just
saying I think there'd be a lot of people that
are kind of casually watching the hockey playoffs just like, wow,
this stuff is pretty fun. You know what if it
doesn't Hockey have to come back first since they their
regular season finishes, I think, what one of the two
weeks earlier than the NBA, so the Stanley Cup is
before the NBA finals. Don't they have to come back
(30:56):
before the NBA. I can't see them dragging on longer
than than the NBA, that's for sure. No, I mean,
I think we're in such unchartered times that to say
anything has to do something before the other one is different.
I mean with hockey, I guess you could make the
argument with basketball. The thing I keep hearing is because
everybody shares the ball, because you're kind of always wiping
your forehead, wiping your you know, your whatever, that some
(31:18):
that basketball players are more or less at risk. I
don't know that one sport is more than the other.
I'm not saying that's the case, but um, I could
see a scenario where hockey comes back sooner. But to
say they have to, I don't know about that. Look,
we we don't do Twitter polls. But I'm just one thing.
If you asked all our listeners NBA, what are the
chances of them coming back this year in some form,
whether it's a two game regular season and playoffs are
(31:40):
just playoffs, um or nothing? How many people you think?
What do you think of about fifty fifty you think
that they think NBA is coming back, or or a
greater number than that. Um, it's a good question. Uh,
people are starting to disbelieve a little bit now. I
think I would think it's still about fifty fifty, But
I think to your point, I think, go over the
last couple of weeks, we've kind of understood that, Uh,
(32:03):
it's kind of a moving target, you know, And like
even with the football stuff today from our president, he's optimistic,
but he didn't put his foot down and say this
is a percent gonna happen. I'll you know, it's it's
it's a moving target. We're trying to get it figured out.
Is to say you're just referenced. Um, you know, the
hope is that things will peak in the next week
or so. That's what all the projections are saying. So
(32:24):
I think everybody kind of understands it's a moving target,
but I would say it's at best right now. Obviously,
feel better about Major League Baseball. I would feel like
that's a seventy five or eighty or even higher percent
chance that that we get to that. But um, I'm
used to be a lot more positive on NBA. I
still think we're gonna get it back. But obviously the
next two weeks are gonna be so important and we
(32:45):
need sports, right, I mean, Mike Goodness, So how many
people are just absolutely clamoring for sports at this time?
Something to be a distraction I never thought that we
were gonna miss sports this much. Could you imagine if
we had to go to twenty one without any sports
that that'd be absolutely crazy, That that'd be horrible for
you to do that, it would be And like we
(33:05):
were saying earlier in the show, is it just it's
just a need for a distraction. And it's not even
people that know someone that's suffering from the illness. It's
not any It's so many different things. I mean, even
people as simple as that have young kids that have
now turned into teachers that needs something to turn their
brain off for a couple of hours after their kids
go to bed at night. We need this stuff. And
(33:25):
I'm not again with the draft. It's different than a
live game where players are actually competing. But the sooner
that we can get all this stuff back in a
healthy mannerism, it's the best for everybody involved. Robert g says, Hey, damn,
I knew the media never really cared about the athletes
of today, but I didn't expect the media the show
complete disregard for their health just to entertain the masses.
(33:46):
Were board entertain us and get back in the fields,
so real, quick quick shout out to Robert. Quick shout
out to Robert for literally not listening to anything that
we've said for the last hour, because I think you
and I have both said that health and safety comes first,
and that we want these sports back with the health
and safety. So we'll ignore Roberts. He needs a little
(34:07):
bit of, you know, comprehensive listening a little bit better.
So look, look, people going through tough times. Rum and
I actually, Robert, you know we agree with you. We
don't want to put anybody back out in sports. Um.
Actually we brought this up earlier in the hour. I said,
if you know, if we have to worry about, you know,
putting no fans in there and travel, then we shouldn't
be playing. Then we can't put the athletes at risk.
(34:29):
Right didn't I said that earlier? Did I? Not? Torres?
Or what you did? Um? I mean if we if
we gotta worry about, um a travel from l A
to Utah, Uh, then then we got bigger problems than
than you know, having having to play sports. So UM,
I wouldn't put him. I wouldn't play a game at all. Um,
Aaron underscore Torres, I'm extinctive genius one. I do want
(34:52):
to get to some draft stuff news and notes that
came out earlier this week, so we'll get to that.
To finish off, our Number one is just flying on
by right here on Fox Sports or Radio. All right,
good evening, everyone, Welcome back to the Fox Sports Radio studios.
This segment brought to you by Geico. He's Aaron Torres,
a Marny Spaniard. You can reach us at Aaron Underscore Tours.
(35:14):
I'm a stinking genius. One. I told you I wanted
to get to um some draft news and maybe I'll
put that on hold. I wanted to read what Mason
Maller tweeted him. Um. He said. First of all, this
is an example of you guys not relating to the
average basketball fan. Basketball has sorely missed. Most basketball fans
don't care about baseball hockey. NBA helps us transition back
(35:35):
to football. I actually agree with everything he said. Um, yeah,
basketball is surly missed. Most basketball fans don't care about
baseball hockey. I don't know about most, but I understand
your point there. And yeah, NBA does help us transition
a little bit back to football, though really it's baseball
because we have the summer. NBA will win in what June?
(35:57):
Halfway through June? So, but I actually agree with most
of what he said there, Torres, I have no problem
in that one. Well, I agree with what he said,
but again, he's not listening to what we were talking about.
You asked me what sport would be hurt the most
by not returning. You did not ask me what sport
we need the most back. So again, people listen, It's
not that hard, open up curious. You get so sensitive
(36:18):
when somebody does. I just don't know who. Like. We
want people to check in, and we appreciate people checking in,
especially in a time like this, but don't check in
if you're not listening to the conversation with like an opinion.
I'd say he didn't say Torres said or anything like that.
I mean, obviously, I'm just saying President says, can you
remind people to obey authorities? People would disobey the orders
(36:40):
are worse than managing their situation than whoever is running
the New York Knicks. Yeah, well so I think the
Knicks didn't lose now because they're not playing anymore. Yes,
I'm here always, thank you very much. All I would say,
he's right, stay at home be safe. Um, and that's
been kind of the messaging from the people up top
and the sea references minute ago is uh, you know,
(37:02):
wear masks because again it's it's an important part of
what we're doing, not just to protect you, but to
protect other people around you. And Isaac says with quick
tests or wildly available, you could easily isolate fifty people
before a game and test, but doing that with fans
would be nearly impossible. I'm in the camp that we
get sports without fans this year. Um. But again, Torres,
(37:24):
what are you waiting for? Is it because you want
a vaccine for this? Because that's not gonna happen anytime
like within the next week or so or a month
or so. I don't believe. Um, maybe it will, but
I don't think it can. So are waiting for zero
new cases um or zero infections because that's unrealistic. Also,
we we're gonna have this. We're just gonna be have
(37:47):
to do the best to protect ourselves against this. Then,
I mean, obviously, as uh, the days go on and
to say you're share the numbers a minute ago, things
are continuing to go up. So my guess is before
we start putting anybody on a plane anywhere for our entertainment.
As some of our listeners have pointed out, Um, we
gotta get this thing a little bit better under control,
and I don't. It's a great question by you any
(38:08):
What does under control mean? What is it? Is it
a percentage of cases going down? Is it spread? What
is it? I don't know, but I would think that
whatever it is, you've gotta get this under control, certainly
more than it is now where the cases at least
here in the United States are continuing to go up
every day. Right, I want to get to the draft.
I want to pay off on that tis what's more
likely to happen. Which do you believe Miami trading up
(38:29):
to number one with Cincinnati and take whoever they want
to take them to a Joe Burrow or whoever. Or
the Patriots going up to number three for Detroit's pick
because Matt Patricia used to be with the Patriots and
take a wide receiver a couple of draft picks. Um,
which is more likely in your opinion? Or both of
them are completely false? Alright, So the Patriots going to
(38:50):
number three or what was the first alternative, or or
the Dolphins going up to number one. I don't think
the Bengals are giving up the number one pick, so
to me, the obvious one would be the Patriots going
up to number three, although I don't think that that
necessarily happens either. Um, I don't think anybody's in the
market to help the Patriots, especially if it means potentially
drafting a franchise altering quarterbacks. So I'm gonna go with neither.
(39:12):
I just don't think either is even remotely close to
potentially happen. Really, I kind of get a feeling that
maybe one or both can happen. Um, when it's all
said on matter, what do you think the Bengals are
training the number one pick. I think there's a possibility.
I didn't say they're they're going to I said it's
a possibility, though, Um, they're gonna trade. We're gonna pick
it up an hour or two because we were running
(39:33):
out of time. So if you want to get in
Errand on the score Torres, I'm it's stinking genius. One
hour one just flew on by because Torres was talking
way too much. So we've done well. Reset. Um, well,
we'll get a little bit into more of this draft
news more on what the president have to say, Rex apologize.
I want to get to the lead story. All that
(39:53):
coming up here on Fox Sports Radio was one minute ago.
I thought we're wrapping it up. You see, I I'm
is count de tours. I didn't talk enough for me.
Now I got food in my mouth because I thought
we were going to freak, because you can't count. I
was looking at the clock. I thought we were one
one minute ahead. Did one minute five? You turn seven
(40:14):
and all things go to you know, hate. I hate
the way you keep adding years to my age. Um,
you keep adding, you keep taking minutes away from my hour.
I gotta keep adding minutes to our years to your age. Well,
i'll get to why I think Miami could trade up
to number one, Um, and that's because maybe they're afraid
the Patriots could trade up to number three. And we'll
get to that also as we get ready for hour
(40:35):
to Also, you're bummed up as it's supposed to be
the final four, so i'll touch on that a little bit. Also,
now we'll get you ready for hour too if you
want to get him. Aaron underscore Torres, I'm at staking genius.
One bad job by Torres for not keeping me on
the break here you're fired back here on Fox Sports Radio. Uh,
(40:56):
good evening everyone, as we're coming to you alive from
the Fox. But it's radio studios. It's brought to you
by Geico. Did you know that fifteen minutes can save
you a fifteen percent of more in car insurance? Visit
guyl dot com for a free rate quote. E's Aeron Torres,
a Marty Spaniard road call tonight, check on in, tell
us how you're doing, how you're getting on by where
you're listening to the show tonight. Aaron Underscore Tours. I'm
(41:19):
it stinking genius one. This was a tough week for
a lot of people. The next two weeks are gonna
be probably equally as tough, and then you could, maybe hopefully,
hopefully will see a light at the end of the
tunnel and we'll get through it one day at a
time and we'll see what the next two weeks brings us. So, um,
maybe it's good therapy if you want to tweet us,
talk to us, um and get something off your chest.
(41:40):
So Aaron Underscore Tours, I'm it stinking genius one. Taurres,
this is this is your weekend, man, This is when
the Final four happens and Arizona wins to go to
the finals and all that good stuff. We're missing out
on it. We could be talking about Arizona playing for
a championship right now, although if they were playing during
this show, they definitively would have lost, so but they
would have made the final four, so that would have
(42:01):
been cool. Yeah, absolutely, see, this would have been one
of the years, you know, would we have had one
of those I don't want to say smaller schools or
mid majors, but San Diego, Staten Zaga, UM, Dayton, Dayton
one of those schools surprising us and making a great run.
Not surprising on this those schools have been in the
top ten all year. It's the top five, Baylor. Um.
(42:23):
I'd love to see how those teams would have fared
when it got to the tournament time. We're never gonna know,
are we No, Well, we will certainly never know. And
I will say quick tease for my personal podcast, the
Aaron Torres Podcast, I got Obi Topping the National Player
of the Year from Dayton. On Monday. He will be
on my show, Arenie, so I know you will listen, absolutely,
you know. I um my podcast has been downloaded in
(42:44):
forty nine states, but there's one that has in that's Vermont.
I swear on my life here, just give me, give
me what give me one download? That's all I'll ask it.
But now Obie Topping, but no, and I did talk
to him a lot about it is you know, the
idea of this was the year four a day in
for San Diego State, all the schools you mentioned, and
that's a bummer. And I will say, you know, we've
(43:05):
spent a lot of the last hour talking about who's
gonna what sports are gonna return, what a realistic timeframe is.
As of right now, college basketball is still the only
one that will not crown a champion in feel bad
for all those kids who would have had that opportunity. Absolutely.
By the way, Monday is movie Monday on my local show.
We're supposed to watch a movie and we we watch
(43:25):
and talk about it. Last week was The sand Lot,
which I gave in a minus two. Um maybe an
aven I love that movie. Um. This week it was
this one. It's going to be slap Shot, by the way,
is cruder than I originally remembered. You know, I hadn't
seen in a while. Boy, isn't really crude, you know, Torres,
have you ever seen it? Or what? Coming from a
(43:46):
crude guy? That's pretty that's pretty impressive. Have you seen
sub Shot long time ago? Man, I can make me
take away your They'll make me take away your man card.
Come on now, you haven't seen the sand Lot till
two days ago? Come on? What though? I got it back?
I got my man card back. What do you think
of the beast man? That guy? That dog was a
beast that was that was? That was a great movie.
But but slap Shot, Yeah, it was a lot cruder
(44:07):
than I thought. It's still funny, still stands up through
the test of time, um and still probably the best
hockey movie we have out there. That was. That was
absolutely great. Better than the Mighty Dust, better than the
Mighty Dust or all that Miracle and all that border
bomb Bay saved the Save the World by Mighty Ducks too.
They beat Iceland, Reggie Dunlop, come on now. And you
(44:28):
know what's so funny is they play in the Federal
League and Slap Shot. And when my son graduates, he
wants to start off in the Federal League. And I
could just picture him and I see the movie slap Shot.
I'm like, jeez, I don't know if that's a good idea, man,
you know what I mean, that's your That's that's the
road I want you to be taken after college. And
we going do a little town after little town drinking
(44:50):
at ten o'clock in the morning at bars. Your son, Yeah,
that's what they were doing on slap Shot. And my goodness,
he'll just be using your credit card to rent everywhere
he goes. So that's good. So yeah, movie Monday, slap
Shot and we'll see how the other guys liked it.
It's iconic. I mean, it's still the best hockey movie
(45:10):
we have out there to us. So it's not better
than Mighty Ducks. It's preposteros. Wow. All right, Aaron underscore Torres,
I'm in stinking genius one. Uh. We have so many
stories to get to. I want to talk about that
horse competition that could be on ESPN with the NBA players.
Will get to that a little bit. Uh. The tweet
from Mike Leach is getting a lot of people are
talking about that Rex apology. Um. But yes, the President
(45:31):
did talk today and I met with well, he talked
to the commissioner heads I was a little nervous when
I heard about this before we got to noon Eastern,
that um, he was gonna have some bad news for
us and tell us, Okay, uh, you guys either shut down,
maybe we'll get in football. I was expecting some bad news,
to be honest with you. Ah, yeah, no you were,
(45:52):
I I said in the first hour. But you were
texting me when that report came out that you thought
that this was a troubling thing that was gonna come down.
I listen. I thought it was interesting. Certainly when you
see that when you see the headline, I mean, there
was nothing pressing that the president needed to speak with
sports about, so you did wonder what he was gonna say.
But I think it was the right message from the president.
(46:13):
As you said an hour one. Uh, people are divided
on a lot of political issues, but I think this
is one where I had no problem with him giving
a very broad hope that football is back for the fall.
He did not say it's definitive, He did not make
any promises, but I like that he kind of gave
the American public something to hopefully look forward to over
(46:33):
these next couple of months. Now, Doris, do you really
feel the American public mrs Sports like they think they
missed sports. And then let me let me tell you
elaborate on that. Um, if we were able to go
out to restaurants, and of course if we're able to,
then sports would be in full swing. But just play
along here, if we were able to go out even
with the social distancing, or still go to restaurants um,
(46:53):
or enjoy music out on a lawn, or play pick
up basketball because it's only five on five there's a
big crowds there, or play tennis, or go on walks
without you know, that much fear of contract contracting this virus.
Do you think then we would be missing the NBA,
in the NHL and baseball as much as we do
(47:14):
now because then we have a lot more things to
take our mind and keep it busy then we than
being quarantine. You know. Well, yeah, And I mean it
always comes down to, you know, the how much we
actually do watch sports when they're available. In the bottom line,
is that really outside of major college football and certainly
the NFL, we really don't watch that many sports until
the playoffs obviously, and obviously March madness is really big.
(47:36):
The NBA playoffs are really big. The World Series is
really big. But no, I mean listen. I do think
people miss sports because I do think it normalizes things.
I mean, under a normal situation, a lot of people
are going to work nine to five or uh, graveyard
shift or whatever, and that's how they enjoy their evening,
enjoy their downtime is grab a beer, sit on the couch,
watch their favorite team. And and I could give you
ten choices to do something on a Saturday, and I
(47:59):
could say, do you want to go to the beach
with your with your wife? Do you want to go
out to brunch with your wife? Do you want to
play tennis with a friend? Do you want to play
pick up basketball? Um? Do you want to go for
a walk? Uh? Do you want to go to a
watch a baseball game between two random teams? I think
watching baseball would probably be tenth on your list compared
to some of the other stuff I just mentioned to
(48:19):
you on a beautiful sunny day in California. Oh yeah, No,
And I mean listen. And again it goes back to
what I was saying a minute ago, is that I
think really outside of major college football in the NFL,
we don't watch a ton of sports until it gets
to crunch time. And so, um, I do I do
think people miss sports though, because like I said, I
think it's it's the kind of uh for lack of
better terms, gonna sound corny, but it's like the north Star,
(48:41):
right is like it's something that you look to because
and I do think by the way sports having sports
kind of brings some normalcy back to society. And like
I said earlier, is that through other tragedy, sports has
been kind of a guiding light. Again, I just use
the same term, but so you know, said, yeah, there's
ten other options. Are you gonna watch the Dodgers Brewers
(49:03):
on a on a Saturday afternoon or to fun stuff?
You're probably gonna watch Dodgers Brewers. But at a time
like this, when nobody can leave the house, Dodgers Brewers
sure would be nice right now, spending you better believe
that Aaron on the score touris I'm instincting genius one.
If you want to go ahead and get on in, Yeah,
just give us a little more sol of something and
we'll be all back in it. Um. You know, mostly though,
(49:24):
I think that people will go ahead and obviously embrace
it when it comes back but once we get to
the new norm, they'll be ready. I think more people
are gonna miss being out. They'll want to go out,
have fun, enjoy the summer. I think people are gonna
do whatever they can to get that out of the
house after what we've been through, you know. And that's
what I was gonna ask you a very I had
a great conversation today with just a friend of mine
(49:46):
in sports, and do you think if if all the
federal restrictions were lifted and we said it was relatively safe,
you can't promise with a certainty like we talked about earlier,
do you think fans will be likely to return or
do you still think there's fear Because I see both
sides of that argument, where I think a lot of
people are gonna be fearful of what they can get,
but I think some people are just ready to get
(50:07):
back to normal, if that means going to a crowded restaurant,
going to a busy sporting event. Where do you stand
on when things are lifted, how quickly things will quote
unquote go back to normal. I think it's a fair question.
I think they'll still be fear, but I still think
they'll be sell out. So UM, my point is, let's
say the Chicago Bears the week one are hosting the
Green Bay Packers. That game sold out. Um, even if
(50:31):
there's no NBA, NHL or baseball, and the n NFL
was the first sport back, that game would be sold out.
If we said, okay, we're going back to normal. Um,
the Philadelphi Eagles versus Dallas Cowboys will be sold out,
whether it's in Philadelphia or in Dallas. Um. You know,
teams like that or you know, or whatever teams, they'll
(50:52):
be packed and people will get back to the new normal.
And also because the NFL for the most part is
outside except for dome stadiums, and I think people would
feel a little bit more comfortable with that for whatever reason.
You know. You see, I'm with you, and my buddy
is a you know, he works in sports, and he
felt the exact opposite is people aren't gonna want to
go sit next to a stranger in a football stadium.
(51:12):
I just think that means that we have in some
degree moved past certainly where we are now. Um. And
I do think a lot of people and listen, we've
seen it with and I'm not trying to make light
of this, but we've seen it with the beach parties
and the whatever. People are willing to take the risk
to live a quote unquote normal life. So I do think,
and I don't know necessarily that all the restrictions will
(51:33):
get lifted it once, as much as that it will
be a slow kind of uh, you know, trickle down
until we get back to quote unquote normal. But I
do think, you know, if if baseball started tomorrow and
you said, hey, you can go to Dodger Stadium, I
think that place will be pretty close to sold out. Yeah,
oh absolutely. Um again, you want to get in air
and underscore tours, I'm sticking Genius one, and we do
(51:54):
want to hear a few moves, kind of like we
want to hear from you people, the listeners out there,
kind of like road call. We just want to make
sure you're safe. You're getting by this, You're not alone.
We're here with you. Torres and I were working on
year three now of this show, and Plank and I
are working on your nines for crying out loud. Um,
that's why I want to read this one's second chance,
Sports says, think of Genius been sports gambling for thirty
(52:15):
three years. I've been listening to you for over five years.
Was with my lady almost four years. She left me
two weeks ago. No gambling, no lady. I'm thankful for you, Arnie.
Keep up the good work and stay safe. Um now
you're better off without her? What can I tell you?
You're better off without her? There's plenty of ficient to see.
(52:36):
Don't worry about it. When things get back to normal,
she'll want to get back to you, and you say,
who are you again? You'll find somebody else. Trust me
on that one. I'll tell you this Second Chance Sports
and am Dr Phil that's my middle name. There are
a lot of couples in quarantine right now that are
not gonna make it out. That single scene post quarantine
is gonna be crazy arty spent here. I'm locked up, though.
(52:57):
I gotta get a I gotta get a lawyer if
I want to be single. Unfortunately, Hey, and like I
told Second Chance Sports, it's all right. Don't take a
deep breath. It can't get any worse. Now you don't
have the sports, you don't have the gambling, and now
you don't have your lady. But when things come back,
then all of a sudden you'll have the gambling, you'll
have the sports. You'll start making money again. People start
(53:17):
going back to the casinos and you'll meet So I
gotta field. If you go back to the casinos in Vegas,
you might meet a later your two tours, you know
what I mean, He may meet a later your and
you just buy you you know, you just win your
first you know, ten bets in a row. I got
faith in you. Second Chance Sports. You go buy some
nice clothes, you hit the town. But I'm telling you, man,
think about all the divorces and breakups that are coming
(53:38):
out of this quarantine and Second Chance Sports. You are
going to have your pick up the litter once we
get out of this thing. I gotta read this real quick,
and says, hey, Arnie, if you haven't seen or heard
of this movie beer League with Artie Lange and Ralph Macchio,
it's very funny. Um. I think he means a Beer League.
I did a nude scene with a girl that was
in beer Fast, someone of Fusco. I don't know if
(54:00):
you ever heard of her. You did a nude scene? Yeah,
I told you when when was this? I did a
nude scene in the movie. No, you didn't You never
told me that, Yes, I did. I think you think
I'm b asking you right now. I don't know what
to think anymore. I'm horrified, to be perfectly honest, whit
where's my producer Eric Roberts? He knows I Where's is
(54:21):
he sleeping? Again? Wait? Kid? You probably three? He probably
thought you were throwing a break again. He's gonna be
extra careful. You knew I did a nude scene movie.
Had no clue to this, and I just googled Simona Fusco,
and I feel like I would have heard about this,
you being in a nude scene with this female. I
tell the story all the time. I told I was
(54:42):
in a movie called The Pool Boys. Um, myself, Simona
and um. Like some great actors like Tom Arnold, he
only a list actors. The guy that says the guy
vote for Pedro? What's his name? From Napoleon Dynamite? You
know who I'm talking about. Nobody knows who what his
actual a? Miss okay, um Shaggy from Scooby Doo. You
(55:04):
know that guy, That Matthew Willard guy, that Damian Lillard guy.
You're so I've been You're you don't know what the
same as you think I'm lying to your don't you Arnie, Listen.
It's been a tough couple of weeks. I don't even
know what I'm not. I'm not lying. I'm not lying.
It's true. I did a I'm in I'm in boxers,
(55:25):
and then a thong and and she's I've worked with
Arnie for years, and I've heard that. I've heard the
Ben Mallard hot tubs story. I've heard that I went
to high school Steve Kerr. I've heard that I was
on This is the first time I've ever heard this.
It only got four points seven out of five out
of ten stars. Excuse me, four points seven out of ten,
(55:46):
so I can understand. I'm surprised it was that high
based on what you're telling us here. I'm the reason
that got four point seven stars. It's big in Germany,
though I think it, but I know I'm in the trailers.
So where are you in the trailer? I got the
trailer going right now. It's like halfway through you'll see
me in yellow boxers with smiley faces on him and
Simona Fusco in like a um A nurse's outfit that's
(56:09):
very see through and revealing um, um hanging out with me. No,
he doesn't, he doesn't. He give you all right, We're
gonna come back. We'll see if they find that. Um.
I do want to get to the horse story and
the Mic Weeds story will have coming up next a
right here on Fox Sports Radio. Think everyone discovered matches
all the cash back you earn on your credit card
(56:30):
at the end of your first years. It's amazing because
Discover is accepted at ninety of the place in the
US that take credit cards. Learn more at discover dot com.
Slash Yes twenty twenty, Nielson reported, limitations do apply. He's
Aaron Torres' Marty Spaniard get ahold of us at Aaron
Underscore touris I'm in stinking genius one? Did you find
the clip? Torres? Did you find it or what? Yeah?
(56:52):
I'm I'm having trouble seeing out of my eyes because Arnie,
how you tell this awful Ben Maller story that you
won't pay off about being in a hot tub, but
you didn't tell us that you were in a movie?
People America go online, pool boys, Arnie Spaniard in yellow
Boxers in Germany, gut hanging out? How have you never
(57:13):
told this story before, but you don't. You don't want
to know what the scene is. Trust me on that.
But the boxers come off. I want you to know
that microphone on. Oh yeah, I just threw up in
the back. That's what you is that the first time
you actually had no comment I think in your life? Right? Yeah?
You think it's the first time I shut you up? Torres? Yeah? Yeah?
(57:35):
Thinking about you without short sign. Yeah, that's very distinct.
Don't you don't do your tracks, Torres? You don't have
your shirt on. That's tough enough to stomach right now.
I I dinner four hours ago, and I don't even
know how I'm holding it down. Claud says a star
actors my butt. You suck at your job because I appreach.
Do I suck at acting or radio or both? I
(57:56):
don't glad. I really should have been an actor. That
was my calling. I'm glad these uncertain times people are
still staying on brand and just I should have been
an actor. I almost got a part in Everybody Loves Raymond.
Have you ever seen that show? Of course, I love
Everybody Loves I've ever seen the one where they go
to a football game and the father catches the uh
(58:17):
record breaking field goal kick and he won't give the
ball back. I don't remember that. I'm not I went.
I finished second in the playing a radio talk show
host in sports radio talk show host in that one.
So how do you get all these gigs? Do you
get an agent? How do I get how do I
get on TV? And b you're you're in l A.
I don't know why you're not taking advantage of that, because, UM,
(58:39):
it really has It's really more about your look or
your voice or whatever. There's always you'd be surprised how
many little bit parts there are. UM. I was supposed
to be in, UM remember that movie like Mike, Is
that what it was? Um? The basketball movie? They were
filming that at the Forum. Um, they had rented out
the format. I was supposed to be in that one,
(58:59):
and I didn't have to to do it because it
was right around the Super Bowl, so I had to
cancel out. We gotta talk off air. I mean, you know,
look at you, Look at you. I need some extra
cash here, man, Come on, all right, you want to
get in air and underscore tourism. I'm just thinking genius one. UM,
I'll send your copy of the movie I'll sign that
for you too if you want. Okay, just please don't.
(59:19):
I think I'm actually gonna report. I'm gonna report those
as inappropriate on YouTube and see if they can get
him take it down. Thank you, thank you very much.
Um horse ESPN who wants the air? A game of
horse between the NBA players work You shoot in your
own gym, workout area, your own basket, and you watch
(59:40):
the other person on what is it FaceTime or zoom
or you know whatever, Skype or whatever it is, and
you and you try to match the shot. Obviously it's
a game of horse. I would love it to keep us,
you know, keep us distracted and watch some type of sports.
I think it's a great idea to us. I think
I like that. Yeah, I don't know who would actually
be opposed to it. I mean just you know, watching
(01:00:03):
Westbrook versus Chris Paul or Lebron versus Kauai because suppos
doesn't have his own basketball court or his own basket.
I don't know if you've heard about that. Well that
I believe, Yeah, I mean that's why, like, that's why.
I think that's another variable that goes into like, you know,
we just want sports back and it's like, these guys
need time to train. Because, yes, a Lebron James who's
(01:00:23):
made you know, five million dollars in his career or whatever. Yeah,
he's probably got a pretty nice house with a pretty sweet,
uh you know, home gym in it. But there's a
lot of guys, uh you know, like John Morant that
just got into the league this year or haven't made
the millions and somebody. It's not as easy as you
think right now, aren't. I mean, it's against the law.
I mean, I know, I'll tell you go to somebody's
(01:00:44):
first of all, any of his teammates house has to
have a gym. You would think, I mean, you're not
supposed to do it. I'm not saying guys aren't. I
but I will tell you this. I have a buddy
who um is a very prominent coach in l a
UM basketball coach and and early on in this process,
even when the social distancing began, he was opening his
(01:01:05):
gym because NBA guys wanted a place to work out
and they were all back in l a Some of
them live here in the off season whatever, and about
it's a high school and about two or three days
in the principle came in and said you cannot do
this here. I don't care how famous they are. We
could be liable if something happens and they had to
shut it down. So I think it's easy for us
to say, well, you know, these guys are still getting
(01:01:26):
their workouts in. I don't think it's as easy for
most of them as a lot of people think that
it is. But Torres, you would watch it. I would
watch it. Our listeners would watch it like if I
if you have been eaten in a month and I
gave you a hamburger and dropped it on the floor
and gave it to you, you eat it up like
it was the best hamburger you ever had in your life.
People want sports as a distraction horse. It doesn't make
(01:01:49):
a difference, uh you know, separate places. They just want
to see something. I think would be a great idea.
I think you would be a ratings winner when it
was said and done. I think it'd be good for
ESPN to do that. Yeah. No, And I think and
it's a real sports too, and it's no disrespect. But
the other night they were broadcasting NBA players playing two K,
which is a video game, and while I'm sure that's
(01:02:09):
appealing for some audiences. It was a tough watch for me,
but this horse Westbrook versus Chris Paul I would watch
in a second. George, I don't know if you know this,
but a long time ago, when we used to have
like I think it was the Sunday Game of the
week in the NBA at halftime. One year we had
a horse contest. Another year they would play one on one.
(01:02:30):
Players would play one on one and um until it
was like a knockout phrase phase. And I think the
winner of the whole one on one was a guy
named Jeff Petrie. I don't if you remember him. He
was a guard from the Portland's Trailblazers, I believe. But
there was some big names out there. You would think
that somebody, you know, like one of the bigger players,
would you know, win that, But it was him that
(01:02:52):
wanted I loved it. NBA one on one three point contest.
I think this is exactly what we need. I think
people would love this. Here's my question, why can't Major
League Baseball do a home run derby? I don't is
there any logical reason that they can't. I mean, maybe
you don't have remember and speak, And I thought of
this because you were talking about, Hey remember when this
(01:03:13):
used to happen in the NBA. But I used to
get ESPN Classic and they used to show like they
used to have one on one home run derby shows
in the sixties or seventies or whoever, I don't remember
what years. But why can't we have two guys in
one picture in a stadium doing a home run derby?
That feels like it could be pretty fun. No, well, yeah,
I think that'd be great, especially you know in baseball
(01:03:34):
would be a little bit easier to pull that off too,
because you know, you're outdoors and you could have the
six feet separations so you can have more than two people,
you could have four, eight or something like that. I
think that's a good idea also. And that's what I'm
saying is you know you have one picture, Um you
don't you know? You you you have a bucket of
a pitching machine. What difference does it make it? Yeah? No,
And I don't know, man. I think that that would
(01:03:56):
be another way to kind of just keep fans interested,
compelled whatever, and it'd be something to watch, like if
there was a home run der beyond tomorrow and Bryce
Harper was going against Chris Bryan or Aaron Judge or whoever.
I think Aaron Judge might even been hurt. I'd probably
watch it, just like I would want to want her
home under excuse me not not one on one horse.
Let me ask what would you want to watch? The
home run Derby or me and the nude scene on
(01:04:18):
the pool boys, Arnie. There's literally nothing I want to watch.
Think about it. I can think about it, don't jump
into it. Think about that for a while. Okay, there's
literally nothing on the internet I want to watch less
and there's a lot of weird stuff aeron other score
Toras of It, Stack of Genius one. We'll get to
that Mic Reach story and Rex's apology that's coming up next,
(01:04:39):
but first let's see what's trending with her buddy Steve
the Sega. What's going on there? We need to move on,
thank We need sports back more than everything. Stop kid,
stop it. By the way, you mentioned vaccine, The possibilities
for that for coronavirus ain't happening this year. In fact,
the estimates have been twelve to eighteen months. Because this
(01:05:00):
is an absolutely new virus. It's called COVID nineteen because
it just came about in in this country, and in fact,
the president literally tonight said, I believe the number was
fourteen to sixteen months for four vaccine. So this is
why people need to take it seriously. We have a
new disease, a new virus. It's not the flu. There
is no vaccine for it, and it spreads quickly. So
(01:05:22):
now you understand a little bit of why everything is
shut down. Although among the leagues that have shut down,
the famed English Premiered Soccer League and their players have
rejected a proposal that would have cut their pay by
thirty percent, just in an effort to help the team
survived during the shutdown. This is the players union logic
in England for this, such a large cut would deprive
(01:05:44):
the government of millions in tax revenue that could be
directed towards relief. In other words, if you don't pay
us our millions, you don't get our taxes tax way
to Go union. Spain's little lega still locked and stalemate
negotiations with players over size of salary cuts there and
I did read that with empty stadiums the soccer league
(01:06:07):
and to Jikistan did kickoff its season. Yes it is.
Despite all the international health warnings, apparently there is soccer
still going on Nicaragua, Burundi, Belarus, as Alni mentioned last weekend,
still handball in Belarus. Of course, who wouldn't know that.
It was the president of Belarus who dismissed the whole
threat of the virus, and his exact quote a couple
(01:06:29):
of weeks ago was well, you just have to work,
like in the village. Your trucker can heal everyone, The
fields will heal everyone. It's better to die on our feet.
He said. Well, it's great, and he's making that decision.
It's also good that belarus population I looked it up,
is under ten millions, so it's like the state of
New Jersey, his whole country's population. So thank you. Our
(01:06:52):
president held a conference call today with sports commissioners. He
reportedly hopes to have fans back in stadiums by August
and September. There is no medical reason to support that
yet we are talking in the first week of April here, folks.
The governor of California, for one, said he is not
anticipating having fans in stadiums in his state in August
and September, and how about this. In NBA history, there
(01:07:13):
have only been three players named All Defensive twelve times
at least in their career. Kevin Garnett twelve times, Kobe
Bryant twelve times, Tim Duncan fifteen times All Defense. Those
are the three that made it into the Pro Basketball
Hall of Fame today. Also among those elected former college
coach Eddie Sutton. On the day that the Final Four
(01:07:34):
would have started, by the way, all of this year's
finalists will be adducted. They said yes to everyone on
the finalist ballot, including Rudy tom Janovitch from the Rockets,
who was the only man with both ten thousand points
scored as a player and five hundred wins and two
titles as a coach. Well, the NFL Draft is still
scheduled to start April under three weeks away, and a reminder,
(01:07:55):
Fox TV will air a different Super Bowl every Sunday afternoon,
three pm Eastern time. Tomorrow, Green Bay against Pittsburgh. Back
to you all right, thanks to Sega. Welcome back to
the Fox Sports Radio studios. It's brought to you my Geico.
It's easy to say fifteen percent of more incarntruments with
Geico all you have, dud is go to Geico dot
com or give them a call one eight nine seven auto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.
(01:08:18):
Calvert says, already, Easter's coming up and be a perfect
night filling in for Ben mallor show. I'll still donate
to your charity if you fill in for Mallor. Um.
Easter is on a Sunday, isn't it? Torres? Right? I
mean it has been for what like the last six
thousand years, So I mean I'm working on something. I'm
actually on before bench. I can't do seven hours of radio.
(01:08:40):
Come on, you're getting soft in your old age, man.
You can't do seven straight Come on, I can't do
that what I call Tuesday night. You know, the Mallard
militia just hates me. They hate my guts. I mean
it's four hours, I know that, but they extra hate
my guts. They it's like four hours of attack fest
on me. It's unbelievable that I go in the fetal
(01:09:03):
position and I cry all night when I get home.
He's afraid of bends fans and did say Torres already
told his listens for a long time about the Pool Boys.
Just like Steve Kerr and the Genie Bust story. Eric's
been working with you for a decade. How long you've
been working with him for Eric? Because h three years now? Probably,
I mean it depends. I mean, do you count me
(01:09:25):
working with him or him introducing himself to me a
year to work? That's true. I do that all the
time when I cover they I've already spent your nice
to beach. The first time you met me, you asked
me for a couple of coffee. I said, I'm not
so what, Just give me the coffee. I was spitting it.
But neither here nor I want to get to the
Mike Leach story. This is a serious story. Mike Leach
(01:09:46):
put out some tweets. Um, you know, of course it
got political, and he did go ahead and um, you know,
got rid of the tweets later on. But it was
a little bit too late. He one of the tweets
said he first of all, he said on the tweet
in which he apologized for anyone he offended in the
previous tweet. In that tweeting question the caption. Right after
(01:10:08):
two weeks of quarantine with her husband, Gertrude decided to
knit him a scarf. The picture attached to was an
elderly woman knitting a noose um a handful of leeches.
Followers were offended by the tweet. Mississippi State football player
Fabian love It wrote, w t F and he's the
one that has entered the m C double A transferred database.
(01:10:33):
I'm not gonna tell anybody how to feel. That is
kind of insensitive. I know, Mike Leech is a little
bit what's the word I'm looking for here, and I'm
not all grateful. I would think we're gretful, well not,
but he's also outside the box type finger thinker, I
guess is what I wanted to say. But he did.
Look what he did was wrong, but he was apologetic
(01:10:55):
right afterwards. But I still understand where the young man
wanted to transfer and and go to another the place.
I could see where he was offended and say, you
know what, this place isn't for me. And I don't
have any problem with that whatsoever. Yeah, yeah, I mean,
you know it was. I guess it was in poor taste.
I mean, I understand that there's I believe, you know,
a lot of connotations with with with that um, but
(01:11:17):
I also think that listen, we're all trying to keep
things light on, you know, moments like this. I mean,
I'll say this, I watched The Tiger King this week
or last week, and there was about ten thousand memes
about all sorts of stuff, including people that were killed,
people that were hired to kill people, and so you know,
it's it's one of those things where I know, Mike Lee,
(01:11:38):
Mike Leach apologize, like you said, he regrets it. Um.
You know, he said all the right things, and I
have no problem with it. I'm ready to move on. Um.
And I would all say for the kid. I mean,
you know, maybe the kid, remember Mike Leach just got
there three or four four months ago, maybe he was
already on the fence, and maybe he's now decided that
it's time to move on. But you know, I don't
think this will be held against Mike Leech for very long.
(01:11:59):
All right, let's get to the Rex apology also. UM, Okay,
I'm sure you already heard it. If you didn't hear it,
well play it for you again. Don play what Rex
had to say about Amari Cooper, the wide receiver for
the Dallas Cowboys. I can't believe I said that he
used that word. Obviously, it's it was a poor choice
by me to to say what I said about a
(01:12:20):
MARII And quite honestly, I think the world of every
player and have a great deal of respect for every
single player in the Nashville Football League, including Amari Cooper.
All Right, he called him a turd, is what he did.
There's the apology, um um, hey, it sounded like a
heart fedel apology. I thought he was out of line
when he said it, Aaron, when we get on players,
(01:12:43):
I usually use the word knucklehead when I'm talking about
somebody like an Antonio Brown. I still don't like to
get very personal, even if it's somebody that's been arrested
for something absolutely crazy like domestic violence, like Antonio Brown.
But I thought this was completely unheard of for him
to use the word turd. I thought Rex was just
trying to be how should we say, television shock jock.
(01:13:07):
I guess you know, you're trying to make the needle moving.
I think he made a big mistake on that. Yeah.
I don't know if we have the original sound bite
of him saying it, um, but at one I want
to play it real quick time. To me, this is
the biggest disappearing act in the National Football League. He
doesn't show up on the road. He doesn't show up
against when the competition is good. When he's against the
(01:13:28):
top corners, that guy disappears. This is who he is.
And Dan he does love football, hell with it. He
stops his routes, he does all this. I wouldn't have
paid this turd no way a hell. Okay, So the
reason I wanted to play it was one. I think
the context of what he was saying was fine is
he has an opinion. He's paid to have an opinion. Um,
(01:13:49):
and if if you watch it, um, I don't know,
it has a different feel when he watched it. I
guess my point would be um. He clearly regrets using
the word, But I don't have a problem with somebody
who is paid to have opinions giving a strong opinion.
And what I said on Twitter, and I truly believe it.
If Charles Barkley said the exact same thing about Joe L. M.
(01:14:10):
Bead or NS cantor Lebron James or whoever, we would
laugh at. Oh Charles Barkley, he's so crazy and he's
so funny. So to me, I don't think x Ryan
meant anything by it. He apologized. What I respected about
Rex Ryan was that he stood by the point that
he made while saying he shouldn't have used that word.
So I do respect the fact that while apologizing, he
(01:14:31):
didn't take back what he said. Ultimately, well, I'll just
challenge you on this, didn't Barkley, I forget who he
said something about on TBS one of his shows on
the show and and did back track and apologized because
it was a little too much. I gosh, I can't
remember who was for the life of me. But even
Barkley crosses the line and realized he made a mistake.
But when you're on live TV or live radio, um,
(01:14:53):
you know, especially like our Monthay through Friday, guys that
do it fifteen the twenty hours a week, you're gonna
say something that you regret it every once in a while.
As long as it's not a curse word or something,
you know, you'll be okay. But he backtrack up all
four that. I'm I'm all for the accept the apology,
and I think at the end of the day, you know,
we criticize media members when they quote unquote aren't controversial enough.
(01:15:15):
Certainly former players and coaches. Oh, they won't. They won't
say anything controversial. They don't want to get upset. That
guy's just waiting to get his next head coaching job.
So you can't also be critical when a guy actually
gives a very strong opinion and I thought it was
actually kind of an interesting opinion about the fact that
he isn't as productive latent games as he is early. Now.
I know he regrets using the word, but again I
(01:15:37):
respect the fact that he came back and even in
the apology he said, man, I shouldn't use that word,
but I'm not changing where I feel like that. You know,
my point was going, which was that this guy isn't productive.
Kevin says, stinking Genia Spanier, You'll always be a Steven
pilot Urn. No apologies given there. You go from Steven
out there. So I do appreciate that. Uh, you want
to get in air another score tours, I'm a stinking Genie.
(01:16:00):
This one will come back. Finish out the hour with
Steve the Seger. See if there's any breaking news out there.
Let's hope for something that's coming up next right here
on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back to the Fox Sports
Radio studios. This segment brought to you by Geico. Let's
check in whether Buddy Steve the Sega. What's happening out
there the sea. Well, one semi good item of news
(01:16:23):
that I noticed this week is that billionaire Bill Gates
said his foundation is funding the construction of factories, seven
of them, for seven candidates for a coronavirus vaccine. You
know how slow this process is to get a vaccine
for a brand new virus. But he says his foundation
can mobilize faster than governments on this to fight the outbreak,
(01:16:43):
and that even though it's potentially a waste of billions
of dollars, I mean, they'll only pick one or two
out of the seven after all that building and all
that funding, he says, even so it would be worth it.
Just forget the human cost, just what it's what it's
doing to the world to come. You know, so much
negativity I think is at Jeff Bezos donating what a
hundred million dollars? Is that what it is? And then um,
(01:17:06):
I forgot who's throwing another twenty five million? And Zuckerberg
people said, oh, it's only uh, that'd be like me
doating thirty five It's like, dude, who cares you're doing
he's doing he's doing it. Yeah, way to step up, gentlemen. Um,
this is the type of help we need. So with
his Microsoft money from the Clippers, with a week or
two ago, with docitions as well. That's right. Absolutely a great,
(01:17:29):
great sports item with sports history that I saw from
an SI writer tonight, sam Amiko, how about this in
sports history? Eighteen Toronto wins the Stanley Cup. The next year,
the Stanley Cup was canceled because of an epidemic. Toronto
wins the World Series. The next year, the World Series
was canceled because the strike. Toronto wins the NBA Finals
(01:17:49):
the next year. We don't know yet if there is
an we gotta have stop stop having Toronto win anything.
It's curious, by the way, we're importedly on that conference
call today, it was the NBA commissioner who said sports
leagues led the way in the recent shutdown for safety.
They would love to be the ones to eventually lead
(01:18:10):
in restarting the economy once there's clearance though by public
health officials. And s I with a great item of
uh tonight in one of its articles that leagues are
private businesses, so the government can stop leagues from playing.
The government can't force leagues to play. And also there's
the union relationship with pro players in North America that
(01:18:32):
is so important. Unions, by the way, we're not part
of this conference call today, but there's going to be
collective bargaining involved whenever restarts happened. However, long down the
road that is for various the money though, uh well,
which which brings me the other half of the equation.
It's not just owners saying we will do this. Just
testing of players to restart, that's gonna be requiring management
(01:18:56):
and labor negotiations, and of course taking the advice and
medical expert What about not just thinking of players and coaches,
just game staff, game night people are rest medical experts.
You can't find two medical experts that could almost agree
on anything. I mean you find these days, yeah, well,
but do you have one team doctor? Saying two is okay,
(01:19:16):
But as you just said, they want to check about themselves,
not not team doctors. I'm saying that people in the
country who have no you know, they don't care whether
hockey restarts per se or not. Just you know, not
sports doctors is what I'm talking about. Um. But also
the other layer of complexity is, you know, when you
add fans into that, what are the current laws, what
(01:19:38):
about health all of that. There was a conference call
with the athletic director at Penn State this week and
her estimate was it would take sixty days or so
for us to prepare for a Penn State football season.
See Eric and I were talking about this in the break.
The college football stuff is so fascinating to me because
the things that you have to remember. These campuses, some
of them are already announced that they're closed through the
(01:19:59):
end of the summer. And if you can't get kids
on campus to practice or to work out, excuse me,
with the strength and conditioning coaches, You're not gonna I'm
ready to hit in August. You're not gonna be ready
to play in September. That is the one to me
that is more fascinating me than the other one. When
you say campus is closed for classes, some campuses just
still allowed to go there and work out or no
they can't do that. Yeah, no, I don't know. It's
(01:20:21):
I mean, I would think, well, certainly right now you know,
maybe the SAGA would know, but no gatherings. That's That's
what I'm saying yeah, because of right now, but does
that mean and if they already decided they're going to
close a campus, but in you know, June fifteenth, it's
a different deal out of well and she said, forget
student athletes, we're just not bringing students back to campus
period until it's safe. And then obviously what about a
(01:20:45):
college football season, Um, would you play it in front
of empty stadiums? Her logic is, well, if it's not
safe for people to be in a stadium or on
your campus, about the people that are actually playing the sport,
how could it possibly be safe for them? So, by her,
if that's a real sixty days roughly that you would
need for prep, then what you would have to have
(01:21:07):
by July four gatherings back or or you're skipping the
beginning of college football? Or then do you have to say, okay,
forget the nonconference games, it's just conference games only. If
we even get to that, well, if the quarantine and
April thirty, then we'll still have plenty of time for
likely at this point, we'll see, we'll see two hours
or in the books, the Power Hours coming up next?
(01:21:28):
You want to get in for the Power Hour? Aaron
underscore Torres, I'm a stinking genius one. Bernie Frattle Chicken
live from Las Vegas. How are things going out there?
I can't wait to hear from him. That's also coming up,
uh in the Power Hour. Uh coming up next right
here on Fox Sports or Radio. Uh. Good evening, everyone,
as we're coming to you live from the Fox Sports
(01:21:51):
Radio studios. It's brought to you by Geico. Fifteen minutes
could save you fifteen percent of more in car insurance.
Visit Geico dot com free free rate. Quote. He's Aaron Torres,
I'm Marty Spaniard. You want to jump in. It is
the Power Hour of the show, Aaron underscore Torres, I'm
at stinking genius one. We'll go ahead and get to
(01:22:12):
some tweets in a little bit. By the way, it
was supposed to be my fifty seventh birthday yesterday. I
decided to red shirt my birthday and stay fifty six
and just let this one pass. Torres. Yeah, first of all,
happy birthday to you. Um seven has never looked, you know,
quite like it does on you. But uh yeah, the
(01:22:33):
red shirt thing, it was an interesting proposal by you.
I mean it kind of is on your brand. You
took seven years to finish college, so this is kind
of perfect for you, I do. Let's be honest, I
look no older than twenty nine. Yeah, twenty nine times four,
but continue, yes years? Yeah, go ahead. First of all,
I'm only eight in dog years, sure, eight times seven?
(01:22:56):
Fifty six? Nobody believes your fifty six, aren't. You're like
one of those real housewives. Yeah I'm thirty. No, you're not.
You ever seen on Facebook where they give you a
math equation? They say, figure it out and get everybody
getting it wrong. If we said if we put up
a picture and say guess how old this guy is,
I think most people would say thirty three or less?
(01:23:16):
About you? Yeah? Absolutely, I mean they must have worse
eyesight than I don't even know. Man, Wow, well I
look young man? What are you talking about? I look young?
Fit a matter of fact, the picture they have up
on me on Fox Sports has been airbrushed a little bit.
I will say that. Okay, Yeah, I thought there was
(01:23:37):
a little more hair on top of your head in
that picture than in real life. My teeth are wider,
I look slimmer, I'm better looking. I look like Matt Damon.
To come on, man, I'll give them looking good there.
That's what airbrushing does, and that is all factually correct.
You're white uglier kidding that's mean. Um you said you
(01:23:57):
were watching The Tiger Kick. How you liking that? I've
not seen it yet. I finished it. It's amazing. I
actually interviewed this weekend podcast. I have no interest in
seeing that. Well you, I mean, you're old. I understand
you drink your prune juice and go to bed. By
What am I missing out on? What am I missing
out on? One of the most compelling documentaries that I've
ever seen. I mean just that, no big deal. Yeah,
(01:24:18):
it's it's amazing. I actually interviewed one of the reporters
who covered The Tiger King this week, Sylvia Corkle. Shout
out to her who's in. Actually, Chris Plank was the
one that helped me correct connect with her. So I
gotta I gotta text Chris. I meant to. But how
long is it gonna take me to catch up? If
I want how to watch this thing? Huh? Probably one
night because you'll start it and you won't be able
to stop it. That would be my guest. It's that good.
(01:24:39):
It's not because right now I've been binge watching Locked
Up Abroad and and Alaska State Troopers and I'm pretty
happy about that. You know, locked up a broad what
is going on? I've never even heard of that. Yeah,
it's it's pretty interesting to see people get themselves into trouble.
And I got locked up abroad? Is that what happened?
And you know what's so funny is they actually get
(01:24:59):
the guy telling the story, Um, the real guy that
got arrested. Oh yeah, so he's doing it and the
people that are doing the acting are re enactment actors,
which is what I want to be. You know, could
you imagine if I they throw me in jail. I'm
a reenactment actor and I'm in like some foreign countries jail,
and you know they said, Okay, pretend like you're beating
(01:25:20):
the crap out of him, how or something like that.
That's my calling, man, that's my calling, reenactment actor. I
gotta do that too. This radio thing goes south, I'll
jump on that decades ago, but continue. Yeah no, I'm
I'm pretty sure about that, so um, yeah, I will.
I want to be a little re enactment actor. But
I'm all hooked up on Locked Up abroad. That thing
is crazy. And these guys do jail time for like
(01:25:43):
fifteen years and some foreign prison. I would have I
wouldn't have made it after like fifteen hours. I couldn't
have handled that. You know, I've never even heard of
this show. I'm not even kidding. I've heard about troopers.
I've heard of Alaska State Troopers. You'll have to you
have to been watching binge watching UM. And also four
is supposed to be this weekend? Actually what today or tonight? UM,
(01:26:04):
we would have been talking about the two games that
would have set up the championship game on Monday? Right?
Is that where we are right now? Or what I
tweeted this last this afternoon? Does it? Can you believe
it was only three three and a half weeks ago
that we had actual sports on our TV? It seems
a lot longer, does it not? Oh? My goodness? Like
you think about the how the college basketball calendar works.
You have the conference championships, the first round of the
(01:26:27):
tournament in one weekend, first and second round, Sweet sixteen
in a LEAE eight Final four. This weekend, the conference
tournaments were played, some of them were finished. That feels
like I can't even just I mean, Gonzago won their
conference tournaments. That feels like it was at least a
year ago. And I'm not even kidding. It's insane. Like
it was crazy because when the calendar flipped from March
(01:26:49):
thirty one to April one this week, um my old
calendar flip from March, and on the March calendar it said, hey,
you're going to Vegas at this time, staying at this hotel,
leaving it this time, Dadada, this and that. And I
was like, that couldn't have been only two two and
a half weeks ago, And sure enough it was, Yeah,
you're in Vegas out there. Remember we were talking about
(01:27:10):
was it the last game? That played only one half
of the game and they stopped it there John's Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
creighting in St. John's and that started the I mean,
that was the beginning of the end. That was the
last game that we pretty much saw. It wasn't it.
It was the most part as best I can tell. Yeah,
I think they played like a little bit of golf,
but it was the last basketball for sure. Yeah. So
(01:27:30):
it's hard to believe that was only what three and
a half weeks ago or whatever it was. I've lost
track of time. It's it's been bad. Um. People were
talking about the NFL Draft. I think that's the first thing. Obviously,
we'll get back later on this month. I think ratings
will be through the roof on that We're dying for sports,
Whether you watched it before or not. I think a
lot of people are gonna be tuning into this sucker,
no doubt, No, I I agree, and it's always does
(01:27:52):
really well. Um, I'm just fascinating how it's gonna work.
I mean, how the cameras are gonna be set up. Uh,
are We're gonna have a home cam Bill Belichick's house
or how like? Like obviously you think that Joe Burrow too,
of guys like that would be set up. But how
is it gonna look? How is the draft going to
play out? Our buddy Todd Ferman made a joke on
Twitter which I thought was pretty appropriate today. Uh, you've
(01:28:14):
ever been in a fantasy draft and your Internet goes
down and you can't get your pick in on time?
I mean, what happens Bill Belichick this, He's on his
his snap face there for the first time ever, He's
trying to put in his pick and it goes down.
So it could be. Did you hear what E A
Sports is going to do? So explain it. I kind
of saw this. I didn't read the article, but I
know you're fired up about it. They're going to do
(01:28:36):
a simulate, a simulation I guess where, um, whatever draft
picked is called up, they'll have a simulation of that
player going up to the podium and being greeted by
Roger Goodell. And a matter of fact, they're calling all
the possible first round selections or the people that will
be picked, and asked them, how would you greet Roger
(01:29:00):
can Would it be just a regular handshake? Would it
be another type of handshake? Would it be the fist bump?
Would it be a you know, jumping up in the
air and chest bump um? And they'll they'll kind of,
you know, make it around how you would greet them
personally and and make it personable like that. I think
that's fantastic. I think that's a great idea. You know, no,
I love it and anything that we can do. And
(01:29:21):
you know, this is one of those things where obviously
the NFL Draft, under normal circumstances, you have years to
plan it out, and they had crazy plans for what
they were gonna do in Vegas. But even now he's
still got two or three weeks to make this thing
really special. And like you said, it's the first big
sporting event that we are going to have here, and
about by that point, about six weeks, five weeks, whatever
it would be. Blow this thing out, make it the craziest,
(01:29:43):
most memorable draft that you can, because a lot of
people are gonna be watching. Your point. Are you on
the same side of the gms? I think that this
is gonna be a big disadvantage for some of the
gms and teams out there, and there is there gonna
be behind the eight ball and they can't possibly figure
this out like they were when they're in a big
conference room, and um, some teams will have the advantage.
(01:30:06):
I really don't care. I really think they're all in
the same boat. Per se. Make the best of it.
You've got to do it over the Internet or Skype
or Zoom or whatever the hell they're using. I don't
even know what they're using door as they're honest with you,
I don't know how they're Is it just a regular
internet connection. I have no idea, but I gotta feeling
it's not as tough as they're making it out to
(01:30:27):
be is, And I don't think it's that big of
a deal. Well, and everyone's at the same disadvantage. I mean,
everybody was working out guys or meeting with guys up
until a certain point. Then it all went online. You
can't have face to face individual contact with guys. I mean,
as long as it's a balanced playing field, I have
no issue with it that. The people that I feel
bad for, like I said last week, are the guys
that are second, third, fourth round picks that aren't Joe Burrow,
(01:30:50):
that aren't too uh, whose draft stock could have been
helped a lot by having individual workouts, pro days all
that stuff. But what is what do you do? You mean?
What do you mean? Well, wait, I mean you're not
usually gonna have a third or fourth round pick climbed
themselves into the first round, maybe a second round pick.
I could understand. I could understand that. But you know,
(01:31:11):
then again, they you're not interviewing second and third round
picks anyway, are you. You're mostly you're going to the
first round, You're going to pro Day, You're going too, Yes, yes,
you are going to product I mean Joe Burrow. I
mean imagine him throwing for wide receivers at Pro Day.
And remember what these pro days been a quarterback that
didn't throw great on Pro Day. I'm just asking you.
They always run their fastest parties at Pro Day. Isn't
(01:31:32):
that amazing how that always works. They threw a hundred
passes and all one hundred were on target. It was amazing.
Every one of them was on targeted card. It was crazy.
Remember Johnny Manzel's Pro Day when they were chasing them
around with the broom. That was great. Remember that, right,
I do. That was unbelievable. Um, But yeah, everybody feels
great on their pro day, So I know you want
to see them and talk to them and poke and prod.
(01:31:55):
But it isn't like you're killing it when you were
able to do that anyway, So maybe you'll do better
on the draft as time around, you know. Yeah, I mean,
I mean a lot of these organizations can't do worse.
But no, I do still feel bad because I do
think guys can move up. And listen, there are always
draft picks that you know when we're watching the draft,
and whether it's Joel Klatt, mel Kyper, Todd McShay, whoever,
(01:32:16):
oh Man I haven't even prepared any notes for that guy.
I I didn't have him going until the seventh round,
and he's going in the third. So guys move up
all the time, um, and I do think it will
be a little bit less of that this year because
I think teams are going to play it safe, because
again they're not going to get as much opportunity to
meet with these guys, to talk with people around him,
(01:32:36):
all that kind of stuff. We brought up the draft
late and our number one. I really think you didn't
think anybody was gonna be able to trade into the
top five. I really believe Miami is going to try
their best to get to the number one pick one
because I think they have three first round selections. They're
stockpiled more than any of the team with draft picks
this year. And two, I think they're really afraid that
the Patriots may move up to the number three. Cincinnati
(01:32:58):
would take Burrow and and of course the Dolphins would
take to uh and the Patriots would be on the
outside looking in. So if the Patriots jumped up the
number three, then the Dolphins would be on the outside
looking in. Miami can't have that. They got to get
their quarterback, they have to trade up. I'm not so
sure that Cincinnati wouldn't entertain the offer for two number
(01:33:18):
one picks and moving down the number five and then
getting like a second of the third round pick for that.
Cincinnati is so dysfunctional that I'm not gonna say definitively
that they will or will not do anything. I think
it's a really tough sell to your fan base. Though
you get the name Joe Burrow wasn't from Ohio, would
you say the same thing. No, I think it could
be completely different because I think, well, I think now
(01:33:42):
you see you and I are smarter than everybody else.
We're having this conversation months ago. But I was never
sold that Joe Burrow is this incredible franchise changing quarterback.
I mean his his his last. So people get so
tripped up on the fact that he went from Ohio
State to l s U. His first year at l
s U, he fifteen touchdowns and eight interceptions and only
(01:34:02):
this past season did he blow up. So I I've
never believed that he has this franchise altering quarterback. But
I think when you have the season that he had,
the Bengals were as bad as they are they're moving
on from Andy Dalton, and he's from the area. I
just think it's really tough to pass on that guy,
giving given all those different circumstances. If you have to
(01:34:24):
take a bet, would you bet that he's more of
a one year wonder like you just said, or that
he's the real deal? If you're asking me, do I
ever think at any point will he be like a
top three or four quarterback in the league. I don't
think so, because think about all the guys that are
in his age bracket. First of all, let's never forget
(01:34:44):
he is a couple of months older than Lamar Jackson.
Lamar Jackson ain't going anywhere for a while. Deshaun Watson
ain't going anywhere for a while. I love Kyler Murray,
I love Trevor Lawrence who's coming in next year. I
love Justin Fields to homes mahomes, I mean, I missed
the Super Bowl m v p uh. Think about all
those guys that are like twenty five ish and under,
(01:35:06):
and he's like twenty three, twenty three and a half
right now, and so you add Trevor Lawrence and Justin
Fields next year, I don't see him being better than
a lot of these if if if that's the case,
then why wouldn't they want to trade down the number
five with Miami and maybe take a Justin Herbert or
um use it for Jordan's love or or something to
that equation, and stockpile a bunch of picks because they
(01:35:28):
need more than just a quarterback to you know, well,
I'll say this, and it's not a great comparison, but
it kind of reminds me of the year that Greg
Oden came out and with Kevin Durant and everyone, you know,
we all watched Kevin Durant like that guy is unbelievable.
But you gotta take greg Oden. You gotta take greg Oden,
And so they took greg Odin. It never worked out.
There isn't a Kevin Durant obviously in this draft too,
(01:35:50):
if he was healthy. But that see, like that's my
thing with this whole draft is And I was filling
with Buckey Brooks the other day and we were talking
about this, if two of was a percent healthy and
there were no health risk at all, we're probably not
even talking about Joe Burrows the number one pick, so
like he can't be this completely franchise altaring quarterback, if
he might not even be number one if everybody was healthy,
and if Trevor Lawrence was a year older, he would
(01:36:11):
be the number three quarterback taking in the draft. Bingo, um,
if you want to get in air another score tourist
m it's thinking genius one. Calvert says, almost three weeks
since I heard the Armies Wildcats growl. But in that
same meeting was they're playing? Torres has does another same meaning,
but they're losing, so they can't lose if they don't play,
because they're not. They're not they're not playing. It hurts
(01:36:33):
all right. When we come back Bernie Fredos straight out
of Vegas, he joins us, how's Vegas handling the whole quarantine?
We'll talk to Bernie. Is there anything to bet on
that's covered up next right here on Fox Sports Radio?
All right, good evening, everyone discovered matches all the cash
back you earn on your credit cards at the end
of your first year is it's amazing because you see
discoverers accepted at ninety nine or some of the places
(01:36:55):
in the US that take credit cards. Learn more at
discovered dot com. Slash Yes went twenty Nielsen report limitations
do apply. He's Aaron Torres, a Marty Spaniard. You want
to jump in air and underscore tourism. It's thinking genius. One.
Let us know where you're listening from, how you're doing. UM.
A lot of people are alone out there, so if
you're feeling lonely, feeling anxious, just you know, go ahead
(01:37:16):
and send us something on Twitter, um, and just let
us know where you're listening and just you know, say hello,
even if it's sometimes you need some type of interaction,
whether it's on Twitter, tweets, text, whatever, calls UM, so
definitely give us a tweet out there. Let's see every
Boddy coming up at the top of the hour straight
out of Vegas. It's Bertie, Fredo, Bertie, how are you
(01:37:37):
holding up out there in Vegas? My friend? Well, you know, guys,
we're just hoping with good behavior, we can all be
released back into the general populations. That's the way I see. Well, yeah, arrest,
you know, yeah exactly. All right, let's start with the
Vegas sports books. What's how are they dealing with the shutdown? How?
I guess they're just shut down and there's nothing to
(01:37:58):
bet on and a good time off. I guess what's
going on there. Well, what makes it particularly brutal, guys,
is March is always a huge month, five ninety six
million last year in the Handle and obviously this year
a big thud. And uh so you know MGM has
laid off more than eighty seven percent of its US
staff and uh William Hill, which has over a hundred
(01:38:20):
retail books right here in Las Vegas alone, has also
furload their people. The good news is the folks that
win Encore Venetian Palazzo, they're own by Las Vegas Sam's,
they're still currently getting paid their employees. And some of
the smaller shops, like the super Book over the West Gate,
they actually kept their odds making team intact. Ja Cornegie
(01:38:42):
is everyone, you know, one of the more creative guys.
And what they're trying to do, uh is, you know,
come up with things. And yes, you can actually bet
Argentina's Super Leiga and Turkish soccer and there's a women's
professional golf tour called the Cactus Tour. It's outside of
the LPG and then there's Gibraltar Premier Soccer. But as
Jake Cornergate says, yeah, sure people are betting Belarusie and soccer.
(01:39:04):
But it isn't exactly moving the needle. So the good
news is, you know, we've got the NFL Draft coming
up here, which I think everybody's looking forward to. Honestly,
we need that respite. And there are not only a
lot of really good draft props, but a lot of
the pros. And I talked to one this week who's
been sixty six in draft prop excuse me, NFL draft
(01:39:26):
prop betting, has three best bets. We'll give him to us,
Bernie to make some money. And before and by the way,
Effren Ramirez played Pedro. I figured he was did you
know about that movie Bernie by the way, because Artie
has been holding that one out on us for years.
I don't know, but if you can get it on Netflix,
(01:39:47):
I know what I'm doing tonight. When I get don't
you'll you'll never be able to sleep amongst you'll be
able to see it? There you go, Okay, okay, night folks.
So the bottom line is, uh, this gentleman there, I'm
very serious, sixty six And he uses in a strategy
that he calls the wisdom of crowds, and this is
(01:40:09):
there's a story back in n O six, a status
station by the name of Francis Galton. He observed the
competition to guess the weight of an ox at the
country fair. So he assembled twelve experts. True story, but
there are also three hundred people in the crowd, and
each were also invited to take an individual guest. Now,
the actual weight of the ox was even pounds. Now,
(01:40:30):
none of the experts came within forty pounds of the
correct weight. But when the aggregate guesses from everybody in
attendance were added up and statistically sorted, the average guests
eleven nine seven pounds, they were one pound from the
So in other words, this became a book called The
Wisdom of Crowds. This gentleman here has been studying mock drafts,
(01:40:52):
and there's probably about three hundred mock drafts that he
employs the Wisdom of crowds, among other things. And his
first best bet is you can bet the order of
the first three players picked in the NFL draft. There's
multiple combinations, but he settled on this one, and you
get plus two fifty Joe Borrow number one, Chase Young
(01:41:12):
number two, Jeffrey Akuta number three, and I can give
you a lot. So long reasons, but the bottom line
is that is part of the wisdom of crowds, and
that particular order has showed up and over of the
mock draft that he studies. The second bet and I
like this one a hell of a lot. The Caesar's
NFL Draft prop over under four and a half quarterbacks
(01:41:34):
in round one, the overse plus one twenty, the under
minus one fifty. This is a bad line. And I'll
tell you why. Only twice since have more than four
and a half quarterbacks been drafted in round one. And
happened two years ago that Baker Mayfield, Sam Donald, Josh Allen,
Josh Rosen, and Lamar Jackson. Well, that was eighty three.
(01:41:57):
That was eighty three. But remember it's only happened twice
since five Prior to that, Tim Conch, Donovan McNabb, Achilles Smith,
Dante Cole Pepper and Kay mcdown those were considered. And
you're right, aren't three was the class? I mean top last? Yes,
exactly right. This is not one of those classes, though,
(01:42:17):
I think you're going to see Burrow too, a tag
Blaw and Justin Herbert all draft in the first round.
The only other guys that are on draft boards for
the first round. Jordan's loved, Jake from and Jacobson. They
don't have issues. They all have negatives. That's concerned scouts.
But be that as it may. Two of those three
would have to be drafted in the first round for
(01:42:39):
that prop to go over. So under four and a
half looks like a good bat. And the third one
huge value on this. He's got Henry Ruggs to be
the first wide receiver drafted plus seven hundred at MGM.
Now Ruggs ran a four to seven at the combine
and he could return kicks and all of a sudden
(01:42:59):
he's earned heads. And I'm hearing that Ceedee Lamb stock
has dropped a little. Three of the last five years,
the fastest player at their position was drafted first. Last
year was Marquis Brown. You know, I can give you
the names, but the longest short of it is again
the wisdom of crowds. If you look at the number
of mock drafts that has Rugs going first, which is
(01:43:20):
it's either gonna be Jerry Judy, Ceedee Lamb or Henry Ruggs.
And I'm certain it's not gonna be Ceedee Lamb. So
it's gonna be Judy or Rugs, and because Rugs can
return kicks at plus seven D, that's worth the flyer.
So there you have it. On this it will be
like it won't be like anybody like Jefferson for l
s h. That's too much of a reach there, right, Well,
(01:43:40):
you can get him at plus I don't, I don't,
I don't. You know, you never know what can happen
in kJ Hamler from Penn State and gave him at
fifty to one, So that's a gas. I don't know
agree with throwing away your money like that. I actually
think there's there's a strategy to this and and to
the guys who know how to do it again this
particular pro in draft props. And by the way, Aaron
(01:44:05):
hurt you talking about Tiger King, believe it or not.
I think they're gonna make a real feature link movie
about it. And bet online has a prop and the
two favorites to play Joe Exotic, Brad Pitt and David Spade.
WHOA those two are like two p's in a pot.
I can see how that it would be a tough
choice between those. Hang on, hang on, we've got breaking
news here. I understand the late entrant. Arnie Spaniard from
(01:44:28):
The Pool Boys Stop does a scene that Bernie, whatever
you do, do not google this this movie. It's mortifying.
I'm not gonna sleep for weeks, Bernie before I let
you go. I'm just wondering, Um, will there be a
lot more bet on the draft because of the lack
of sports going on? Or you expected pretty much the
(01:44:49):
same amount. No, I think it would have been extremely healthy,
hand and luck. Keep in mind there are limits, and
you're gonna have to do it through your app if
you do it here in Las Vegas and there's only
four casinos I think circa MGM Caesar's like, there's only
three or four. They got the app up in live
right now, I think you see probably a lot of
offshore betting two and you know, I think you're seeing
a lot of the books now having conversations about what
(01:45:12):
do we really consider having to do to get these
things like elections and Academy Awards approved. I'm really it
comes out of this. It's just a matter of time.
We've talked about this for years. The Gaming Commission doesn't
like it. If it's been decided and it's in an
envelope and the information can be compromised. The book's risk
management doesn't like that. But we're in times now where
I think everything's on the table and these things have
(01:45:34):
to be discussed. Anothery're trying to get it approved to
bet the Russian KHL hockey League. That's not approved yet,
but if you can, you know, bet that there's some
probably player names you'd recognize, Bernie. Would would you be
able to bet if they played that? I don't know
if you heard of that. The NBA is trying to
play a horse game, you know what I mean? Would
you be Would they make that into a bettable thing
or no? I think it's entirely possible. We're gonna talk
(01:45:56):
about that with my guests coming up tonight at eleven o'clock,
Ben Stein from The Big Lead. We're gonna talk about
some of scenarios where the NBA can come back, or
maybe they don't come back. I don't know. I don't
know anything anymore. I just take it. I get up
every morning if my name is not in the obituary, Corlum,
I have breakfast. Bertie Fratto straight out of Vegas coming
up at the top of the hour. We'll be listening. Bertie,
(01:46:17):
thanks for coming on by buddy. Happy birthday, Thank you
very much, Bernie Fratto. Yeah, he's still always a lunch
in Vegas. If you ever make it out there. Final
check it to see what's trending with our buddy Steve
the singer. What's going out out there, guys. Tom Dempsey
has passed away the man who goal record for decades
that is correct, back in seventy for the New Orleans Saints.
(01:46:39):
He has died late tonight of complications from the coronavirus
at age seventy three. He had battled Alzheimer's and dementia
for the last eight years, and according to NOLA dot com,
he had contracted the virus in late March during an
outbreak at the retirement home where he was in Uptown,
New Orleans. In fact, he is one of at least
(01:46:59):
fifteen residents there to die after being stricken with this disease.
Tom Dempsey known for this one play at the end
of a Saints game, a National Football League record. In
addition to winning the game, they're setting up on their
own half of the field for this last kick, good God,
(01:47:24):
good Sex and against Detroit is correct. Tom Dempsey known
for that and this guy of course born without toes
on his right foot, fingers on his right hand, that
is correct. And his kicking foot was this flat shoe
(01:47:44):
which is on display in Canton now, Tommy and had
a piece of metal, didn't you have a piece of metal?
And they at that end of that right foot, not
on his foot on the drew. Well, I do remember
the flat on the outside of this show. Yes, I
think there was a piece of metal in that. It
wasn't until teen that NFL record was broken when at
Altitude Denver's Matt Prator kicked day sixty four yard. Tom
(01:48:06):
Dempsey passing away tonight in Louisiana into the Basketball Hall
of Fame today, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and others.
The President held a conference call today with sports commissioners.
The governor of California, for one, said he is not
anticipating having fans in stadiums in his state in August
and September. One factory says is to have enough testing
(01:48:27):
by then to be able to determine when it's appropriate
to have sports gatherings again. Fox TV will air a
different Super Bowl every Sunday afternoon three pm Eastern Time.
Tomorrow Green Bay Pittsburgh. Also, through the month of April,
FS one will carry Classic NFL postseason games on Thursday
and Friday nights, and a reminder, FS one and Fox
TV now are carrying virtual NASCAR racing every Sunday, including
(01:48:49):
tomorrow at one pm Eastern time. The first event, a
couple of Sundays ago, was watched by over nine hundred
thousand people on FS one on the highest rated E
sports program in history. Can hair that nine hundred thousand
to the Monday night football replay this week, which was
under four hundred forty thousand viewers for that Chiefs Rams
high scoring game from a couple of years ago. And
then a couple of nights later, ESPN showed a lebron
(01:49:12):
Game seven Finals against Golden State with the Calves that
was also under four hundred forty thousand viewers. There's about
four hundred thousand for the game five they showed of
that series, and when they replayed the Fame Texas USC
Classic Rose Bowl that was under four hundred thousand viewers.
Last Sunday's NASCAR Virtual racing was not only on FS
one but Fox TV as well. That drew over one
(01:49:33):
point three million viewers last weekend. It was the top
rated sportscast of the weekend. Back to you, by the way,
Villanova just beating North Carolina on the last second shot
as they showing they're showing the Arizona Championship again on
one of the just run that on a loop, my friend.
By the way, after Depcy's field goal three or four
years later, that's when they moved the goal post back
(01:49:54):
to the back end line there so you would wouldn't
be able to kick along field goals or if you
if you look up Tom Dempsey on YouTube and find
the kick, it is a strange, strange thing to see
them lining up in his own half of the field because,
as you say, the goal posts were on the goal
line at the other end. Wow, it's absolutely incredible. All right,
(01:50:15):
stay stay safe out there. To say, I appreciate that.
Welcome back to the Fox Sports Radio Studios is brought
to you by Geico. It's easy to say, fifty percent
of more incarntrudents with Geico. Go to Geico dot com
or give him a call one seven auto. The only
hard part figuring out which way is easier. Tom Dempsey
passing away, do you remember him Torres or you just
remember the kick or something like that. I've heard about
(01:50:37):
the kick. I don't. I don't remember much, should be
perfectly honest. So yeah, no, it's way before your time.
But you'll have to look up pictures of him. Look
at his shoe. And then they changed the rules. He
did have a metal plate in that shoe and they
changed the rules to where you can't do that anymore.
I think that was like in seventy three or seventy
four after that kick. But um, that kick, like the
Sacred told you just stood for a long time that
(01:50:59):
that was a big thing out there. Man. That was
That was a long time record there for Tom Dempsey.
So certainly rest in the peace. We talked about horse,
I didn't think about that. Um, you'd maybe maybe be
able to bet on that in Vegas if the NBA
did a horse contest on TV. You know. Yeah, I
thought that was really interesting. And for people who didn't
pick up on what Bernie said. For months now years
(01:51:20):
since we've been having him on this show, he's always
told us that while it's fun to talk about, you know,
betting on a presidential election or the oscars or whatever
in Vegas and the gambling capital of the world. You
can't actually bet on them because the Gaming Commission, as
Bernie said, doesn't like anything that can be compromised. It
doesn't like anything that isn't something that has played on
(01:51:42):
the field. So you can't even bet on say, the
national anthem at the Super Bowl and so what Bernie said,
you can bet you can bet on that, not in Vegas.
Not Vegas. You can no, no, you can you can't.
I know you can't. But that's one game, one special game.
How do you bet the draft if that's also not
on the field though too, that's done by cards and
predetermined for the like the number one pick will be predetermined,
(01:52:05):
but you can still bet on that one too. Yeah,
I mean when do they with the draft? The thing
that I don't know is how when they close the
um you know, when they close the betting, so like
it can you pick? Can you bet on the second
pick in the draft through after the first pick is done?
Is it wants the draft starts? All that stuff. But
I thought it was really interesting that a lot of
(01:52:26):
the stuff that you can't bet on in Vegas traditionally
maybe coming because people just want something to bet on
your right, but most of the time you can't bet
on like who's gonna win the Oscars or um, you know,
stuff like that, especially some of the craziest stuff. But
they'll let you on the super Bowl, but they'll put
a limit on that, like a hundred or two hundred dollars,
a couple hundred dollars um, so they don't get burned.
It's more of like a fun thing with the prop
(01:52:47):
bets than anything else. But the horse thing, I'd be
all in. I'd I'd be betting that like it was
an NBA game. You know. I'd love to watch that
and have some money on that one tour as that'd
be great. Yeah, you gotta bet against Russell Westbrook because
not not the greatest shooter, because he was one of
the players that was said that would be interested in
doing something like this. The names I saw were Chris Paul,
Russell Westbrook and a few others. But no, I would.
(01:53:10):
I would bet on that, and I would watch it, man,
and and you know, I give these leagues credit, you know, Listen,
I've been on this show critical of Adam Silver at times.
I think everybody's been critical of Roger Goodell. But I
think they are doing everything in their power to keep
us entertained in these kind of wild times. And so
I give these leads credit for trying to get creative
with some of this stuff. You know, I don't remember
(01:53:30):
who won the horse contest, but I remember Pete maravich
Um doing these horse trick shots where he'd be like
under the bucket and and shooting underhand and putting a
spin on the ball to get it in. And other
NBA players not able to do that. You know what
if he he was Marivitch was unbelievable. He he was
like a pool player on the on the court. It
(01:53:53):
was unbelievable. You don't remember him. I've listened. That's one
that I've gone back, and I've watched the YouTube clips
and there's you know, every once in a while you'll
see a random clip on Twitter pop up of him
doing all kinds of tricks with the basketball. So yeah, no,
there is. It's crazy because we always say, oh, there
will never be another this guy, that guy. There will
never be another Pistol pep. This dude. He averaged like
(01:54:14):
forty two points a game at LSU without a three
point line. You know, I think Kareem could win the
horse contest. If he just shot the sky hook, nobody
could Nobody's ever been able to duplicate that. If he
can still shoot the skyhook, Kareem can win it right now,
for crying out loud? Can I vent? And I know
we don't generally talk about, you know, other reports on
other networks, But ESPN did a Best College Player of
(01:54:36):
All Times and Kareem did it, win it three national championships,
and and I would say, and he always lost what
like eight games in his college career. I think that
way less than that. Yeah, maybe he was four or three,
I don't even know, something like that. And then on
top of that, the Athletic about two games. The athletic
did something on the Mount Rushmore of all the major
(01:54:58):
sports in the city, and they didn't have Kareem either.
Kareem one I believe, four with the Lakers and three
with U C. L A. How is he not on
the l A Mount Rushmore Because you didn't have to
be from the city, you just had to play in
that city. And so Kobe was on their Magic was
on there. But Kareem, who won three in college and
at least four maybe five in the NBA, wasn't on
(01:55:20):
that list. Magic obviously deserves to be. He won one
for Michigan State. You're not talking about it. It's it's
a mount rushmore of l A athletes, so athletes that
he didn't win anything in college. That here in Los Angeles,
that's what kareem one for U C l A and
the Lakers though, That's exactly what I'm saying is it
was I believe Magic, Kobe uh Serena, who's from l A,
(01:55:43):
and Jackie Robinson, who obviously is from l A played
at U C l A. I'm sorry, you gotta boot Magic,
you gotta boot Kobe. But kareem to win three titles
in college and then another four or five in the NBA,
that's unbelievable. Yeah, that is, that's very shocking. A matter
of fact, he should have won the College Player, as
you said, of all time that they gave up to
(01:56:04):
Michael Jordan's right, that's what they gave I believe. So yeah, unacceptable.
Got me fired up at ten forty five here Pacific time.
All right, Aaron underscore Torres, I'm in stinking genius one
will come back our final segment. I'll get you some picks.
I'll dig something up all that's coming up next right
here on Fox Sports Radio. All, I welcome back to
(01:56:26):
the Fox Sports Radio studios. This segment brought to you
by Geico, Aaron Torres, Arnie Span your finishing Remember coming
up at the top of the hour, straight out of Vegas,
our buddy Bertie Fado, a must listen to as they
get by things out there in Las Vegas. Give me
a little music, put me in the mood. Time for
my picks. And and believe it or not, Torres, there's
actually stuff to pick on. So and you're gonna actually
(01:56:46):
help me pick the first four games, I'm gonna go over, okay,
and that's the n C double A two KSE simulation
lines in college basketball, Gonzaga against Virginia can Zaga and
eight and a half point favorite. Give me the Zags
minus satan after too tough. Virginia doesn't score, they play
great defense, but I love the Zags minus statan a half.
(01:57:08):
Are you out of your mind? Artie spin here? Virginia
one eighth straight games to close the year. They beat
Duke at home, they beat Louisville at home. They beat
Florida State at home. The one thing they do is
play defense. I know the Zags had five players who
average double figures this year. They can slow down the
Zags enough. What was the spread? I don't even care
what the spread? Eight and a half, eight and a half.
(01:57:30):
Virginia is covering at you, crazy old man, you're taking
the Virginia enough. Speaking about Louisville, they're playing Washington. Louisville
a five point favorite. Um wow, because I know Washington
it was an up and down team a little bit there. Um,
I gotta thick Gluisville not only the much better team,
but laying five is a bargain. Give me Louisville minus
(01:57:51):
the five. Yeah, Louisville against Washington. You know, think about
Washington as they are a very up and down team.
By the way, I love somebody just tuning in understanding
these are virtual lines. They like tourist's baid or what
games are they watching? Basketball? Coming back? What's going on? Listen?
Let me tell you this about Louisville. I do not
trust them giving five and a half to anybody. Okay,
(01:58:13):
I don't care if it's virtual reality. I don't care
if it's on Mars. I don't care if it's on Pluto.
Give me the Washington Huskies. I don't want the points.
I don't need the points. Washington outright, I'm banging the
table on this. You're you're gonna watch any of these?
That's the question there. Tomorrow, um Kansas playing Michigan. Kansas
a five and a half point favorite of their way,
(01:58:33):
too tough for Michigan. Michigan can't keep up with that.
I see Kansas running away winning this one by double digits. Torres,
I am so on board with you on this one,
Harnie spinning. Let me tell you listen, it was a
great first year for Juan Howard, but uh, they really
struggled down the stretch in Big Ten play. I think
teams started to figure out Kansas best team in the
country from start to finish. All your no doubt in
(01:58:54):
my mind, they cover the spread whatever it is. One
other game, and I know which way you're going on
this one. I won't even have asked you. Ohio State
taken on Dayton, Uh, how could you not live? Dayton
minus the five, who some people thought could be a
final four, maybe a championship team. Give me Daton the
Flyers minus five. Yeah, I will say shout out to
(01:59:15):
Obi topping the Dayton Star, who is gonna join my
podcast on Monday before whatever the heck this is that
we're talking about. He's got a very busy schedule, but
before your championship game. Yeah, but in real life he
joins my podcast. I can't bet against a friend of
my podcast, So I got Dayton and Obie topping cover
In the five five and a half early NFL Titans
are a five point favorite over the Oakland Raiders. Should
(01:59:36):
that be the last Vegant? Well? I guess y uh
it says Oakland Raiders. Um, I guess I gotta take
the Titans in the role they were on last year.
This year they're gonna be on a roll if I'm confused,
But I'll take the Titans anyway. The NFL didn't finish
their season before all this, right, Yeah, I don't know.
It's a simulation game. What do you want for me?
That's are we simulating last season? I don't know. Play
(01:59:59):
along just Ryant and he'll get his Is he still
playing for his contract? I need some answers here. Let's go.
Does Derek Carton know that John Gruden spent the last
trying to get rid of them? Need to be doing
with that, but I don't know. I'm just I'll flip
a chord. I'll take a game there. Um. Of course
there's the Belarus Cup going on. Yeah, if you want
to pick on that. There's the Nicaragua First Division, always
(02:00:22):
competitive this this time of year. In the Nicaragua First Division,
you can throw the records out of the record book,
let me tell you that. Yeah, and then they have
a bunch of other stuff that I wouldn't even own
how to pronounce teams or names on that. So there
you have our picks. Do with them as you please.
Remember now they're no longer strictly for entertainment purposes only.
Would you bet on a simulation I know you've gone
out the Vegas and bet on games. Would you bet
