the man himself from the bullpen Allah Trevor Hoffman, the
Hall of Famer of the San Diego Padres. It's Bucky Brooks.
What's going on, Jonas? It's all look at you with
that and see that's the kind of power you have
you hold here at Fox Sports Radio. In passing, you
(01:06):
mentioned that you wanted that as your entrance music. Yeah,
I feel like something powerful, like when I come in
that you know it's over it. When I come in,
when it, when the ball gets to me, it's over surre.
It's it's SummerSlam and Bucky Brooks is making his way
to the ring. Uh now, Bucky, I want to first
start by saying, uh, well, it's a two part commentary here.
(01:29):
Number one, Happy Memorial Day weekend to you and yours,
Bucky Brooks, appreciate it. Man. It great weekend, great weekend.
A lot of time. It's a little different. I know,
I know this. On my way here, man, there are
a lot of people out and about. Yeah, I mean
a lot of people out and about box and stuff.
A fool people are kind of seeing what's going on. Yeah,
(01:50):
it feels like getting back to a little bit of normalcy,
Like as we look around, like maybe a little bit
of normalcy. Here's the other part of that Memorial Day
conversation I want to have with you. How the hell
is it Memorial Day? It doesn't feel like a Memorial
Day like I I had not. Like I've got buddies
who are like, yeah, we didn't even know it was
Memorial Day weekend. We had no clue. I know it's
a week earlier than normal, but I think I think
(02:11):
that that threw it off too, because it's the three weekend. Um.
We're so used to having it around the nine at
the very very end of the month. So it's a
little different, a little different. But I mean, yeah, no, listen,
I'm happy about it. I'm excited. It feels like we're
getting back to, as I mentioned, a little bit of normalcy.
I know, people in the world of sports. You've got
(02:32):
the NBA looking at Walt Disney World and trying to
figure out plans there. The NHL has got a twenty
four team playoff format that they're trying to finalize and
put together. Who the hell knows with Major League Baseball,
they're probably still fighting because players want to spit and
grab their crotch and the owners say you're not allowed
to do that, or the doctors do whatever. But college football,
(02:55):
I think came out pretty aggressively, and the and the
two entities in college football that came out pretty aggressively.
We're one the SEC, the SEC announced and you and
I doing the show on Saturdays. College footballs are bread
and butter during the fall, and the SEC comes out
and they announced that athletes under strict supervision and safety
(03:15):
guidelines can begin using facilities on campus for voluntary workouts
on June eight. The Big Twelve also came out and
said the football players are going to be allowed to
return to their respective campuses on June fift Volleyball, soccer,
cross country student athletes can return on July one, and
all other student athletes will be allowed back on July.
(03:37):
I'm good with it if they if they follow the
proper protocols, if we're taking a cautious approach and not
a scared approach, I'm good with it. And to me,
that makes me optimistic. We're gonna have a season. On
Time Jones, We're gonna have a season, like there's going
to be a season because you have a little experience
living down in the South. Football is king down there,
(03:59):
and football will be played and in the South, particularly
in the SEC, is going to be played, and it's
going to be played with fans in the stands. Yes,
I would be stunned if they go in any other direction.
I think um. I think the SEC has made it
a point. They came out really strong. The Big Twelve
came out really strong. And I just wonder if these
(04:21):
other conferences around college football are going to be pressured
into jumping in on this, even though they want to
take the safe approach in certain places, whether it be
the Pac twelve or or or California schools and some
of that stuff that came out. I wonder who's the
next conference to jump all in and say, hey, man,
we're playing, We're getting guys back to work coming up
in the next couple of weeks. There's there. We're about
(04:41):
two weeks away from this happening. I think the Pact
feel will be the last. The PAC twelve, the Mountain West,
those that are more towards the West coast, they were
kind's kind of like their TV deal. Yeah, well I
just want to get on direct TV, and they'd be
the last ones. Um. I think you see the big
tand come soon, um and and and talk about getting
some things because there's been a push to try and
get that that done. But I just believe that with
(05:04):
the SEC going all the way in and jumping in
and saying saying that hey, yeah, they can go on campus,
they can work out, they can do some things. And
I think Man Louisville, one of the first schools in
the a SEC that's talked about it. So it just
appears to me that they're ready to move on and
they're going to play these games. And just knowing the
culture of the South, Uh, they're they're they're gonna do
(05:25):
it without cardboard cutouts in the States. They're not gonna
be cardboard people submitting standing. There no real real bodies,
real bodies. We will see if they actually social distance.
But I am fully anticipating uh pack stands in the SEC. So,
so you don't think Brian Denny or or or the
(05:46):
swamp or uh Williams Bryce are gonna have like you know,
like sex dolls or like no, no, no, no, no,
I don't think. I don't think they're gonna do the
KBO thing. I think I firmly leave that they're going
to tailgate and the environment and culture that we have
grown accustomed to kind of fallen in love with an SEC. Oh,
(06:09):
we're gonna see that in full it's full splendor. Okay,
just imagine which SEC stadiums have you been do? I
want to paint a picture for you. You You just tell
me how you would feel about it. Which SEC stadiums?
So I've been I've been to L s U. I've
been Alabama Stadium, I have. I've been to the Swamp.
I have not ventured between the hedges yet. I've been
(06:29):
in Texas, A and M. Never been to Missouri, uh,
any notable. I have been to any of the old
miss my old miss. Even though they say you have
to make a trip. Yeah, and I hear, I hear
the tailgating is wild and it's one of those. Um.
You know, honey, I'm on a work trip. You know, sorry,
I can't make this one. This you need to do
it over holiday weekend. You know. That's why I've heard
(06:51):
the same things. Um. And so here's why I want
to ask you that, so of all those SEC stadiums
that you've been, do which was the most impressive, most
impressive and ironman? And then you absolutely would love to
go back to Man L s U. Is l s
U spectacular when it comes to like just the games
being played and just how man, it's it's just a zoo.
(07:14):
I mean, it's it's unbelievable. Any of those schools really though,
are there? I still have memories. We played in Mississippi
State in the Peach Bowl. Um, and only three and
they had the cow bills and I mean, man, still
ringing in my ears, the clinging, like like unbelievable. So
they all have their their special But I would say
(07:34):
L s U. I would say, going down to the
swamp when Florida is good, Uh, playing in between the
hedges at Georgia, I don't think you can be that.
And then Alabama, Um, Brian Danny, I, I just don't
know how you can compare when the team is good
and it is absolutely packed. Man, hard hard to beat
those environments. All right, So pretend that you're back at
Death Valley. You're in that rug, You're in L s U.
(07:57):
It's a big time game, and you're you're watching it.
You're in the stands. You just want to be a fan.
You're not looking for sideline access. You just want to
take in the atmosphere. And just to tell me if
this adds up to you mentally as your stay, as
you're sitting there in your in your seat, you look
over to your right and you see a cardboard cut out,
and then and then you look over to your left
(08:20):
and you see a blow up doll. I don't know
about you, Bucky Brooks, but that doesn't seem to make
any sense to me or logic. That's why I believe
stands are going to be full coming up in the fall,
and they will absolutely be full. And I just you know,
the cardboard cut out like that, that that doesn't get
any exciting. I think, I think you may have your
interests peaked a little bit about the blow up doll.
(08:41):
I think that might make you pause for a minute,
that mistake. But then I think, I think real people,
real people people. I just I want we've got there's
got to be a study done, like because when if
things start to get back to normal a little bit
and it feels like this is the first weekend to
where and you mentioned it traffics out there. I had
(09:02):
a buddy who's been driving on the four oh five
in southern California. For people that are listening nationally, the
four oh five is the third circle of hell. It
is awful. It is you are stuck on the four
or five four hours sometimes years ago when they had
that whole Karma Geddon thing that was going on the
(09:22):
reason they called it Karma Geddon is because they were
closing off the four or five completely because they needed
to do work. People were terrified. People were staying in
hotel rooms. They didn't want to get on the roads.
Everything was already jammed up. Imagine if you lose one
of the major highways and all the planet and take
that away from the equation. So I had a buddy
that was on that same four or five And imagine
(09:44):
anybody listening in the country right now, imagine the busiest
stretch of road wherever you're located. Times ten. I had
a buddy who's been taking the four or five of
the past two months, and it's been like he called
it nineteen fifties. It was like the nineteen fifties. There
was nobody on the road. He sent a sure yesterday
and sent it over back to the same old grind.
And people are ready, man, People are People are ready
(10:06):
to get out. And it feels like this is the
first weekend that a little bit of normalcy has crept
up in everybody's lives and they're itching to get back
out there. Absolutely, people are ready. They're ready to kind
of get back to normal. Uh. Memorial Day weekend is
kind of like the kick off to summer. Like if
this was a normal thing, this is like, I mean
almost say this when the party starts, but kind of
this is the party star savement Morerior Day, and it
(10:28):
kind of culminates around Labor Day. And the super bowl
of the summer is always the fourth of July, but
this is kind of the kickoff, and I think people
are treating it as such. And and for you lake
zombies out there, the people who like to go hang
out at the lake and uh and and urinate in
the water and then drink canned beer all day and
pass out at seven pm. Look, it's really a three
(10:49):
pronged summer because it starts with Memorial Day, like you said,
then you go to July four, and then you go
to Labor Day, and after that it's all over. It's
completely over. So the act the country is getting back
to some normalcy for Memorial Day. It's good for beach communities,
good for late communities, and it's good for sports because
apparently they're ready to rock the Big twelve, uh, the SEC.
(11:11):
If you were an athlete going back to you eighteen
to two years old, would you have any hesitation about
going back to practice right now? Now? I still worry
a little bit about it, But I mean you have
to see and people running around playing soccer out here
with without mask. I saw a group of what eight
(11:35):
year old playing baseball with their parents. I was like, um, yeah,
I think everyone is officially um back to business, back
to work. Like yeah, it's a wrap. Bucky Brooks Jonas
Knocks here on Fox Sports Radio from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio Studios. You can check out the show on
the I Heart Radio app. All right, coming up next
(11:56):
year on fs ARE, there's a storyline developing with one
quarterback in the NFL that just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
Find out who we're talking about next on Fox Sports Radio.
He is Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox
Sports Radio. You can listen to the show on the
I Heart Radio app. Coming up here and we'll call
(12:16):
it a little over ten minutes from now here on
fs ARE. Uh there is a strange situation brewing in
the National Football League. We will try and identify what
the root of the issue is for one player that's
coming up a little over ten minutes from now here
on Fox Sports Radio. Uh So, Bucky Brooks, Um, We're
going to catch up with a guy who's popped on
(12:38):
the show before coming up an hour for Clarence Hill.
He's covered the Dallas Cowboys for years and years a
couple of decades now for the four or Star Telegram.
So he's gonna join us an hour four the program.
And there's there's one thing that you and I have
been step step for step in we have been in
total agreement. Lockstep is probably the term I should have used.
(13:01):
And it's you know, obviously wouldn't be our top five
of fruit that we did last week. You were just
ready to throw up when you heard my top five
or yeah, it's very very bizarre, and I would agree
that yours was better than mine. But here's here's the
the topic that you and I have been an agreement on. Uh,
Dak Prescott deserves to get paid. Okay, I'm sorry, I
(13:25):
know that I know that nobody likes this, but Dak
Prescott deserves to get paid. So it took a different
turn this week because there was a report that came
out that Dak Prescott turned down a five year, one
seventy five million dollar contract. There was also another portion
of that report that said, well, Dak Prescott turned down
forty five million dollars in the final year or wanted
(13:47):
forty five million dollars in the final year that contract.
Ian Rapp Report Adam Schefter both said that's not true.
People we've talked to say that is that is that's
that's not true at all. But this just cant can
use to go back and forth through the media. What
the hell is happening in Dallas with Dak Prescott and
his contract. They look, it's it's negotiation. They just can't
(14:10):
They can't find the middle ground, whether it's the number
or the amount of years on the deal. They just
can't figure that part out. But most deals need a
deadline to get done, and so the deadline is July.
I think it will continue to be this song and
dance until we get into the month of July and
negotiations really begin to take a serious turn. And if
(14:34):
they don't get a deal done by July, that is
when I will be beginning. That's when I will start
to get worried about Dak and what does it mean
and and those things. But right now, man, everyone's just
positible because there's no there's nothing that can really force
the deal to get get made, and so we just
kind of have the way to the deadline. There's been
a lot of conversation about who's got the leverage here,
(14:57):
Who's who's got all the leverage in this negotiation? And
I don't know how anybody thinks Dallas has got the
leverage over Dak Prescott. I don't know. I think Dallas
had the leverage and that was involved in getting a
deal done a while back. And now the price tags
only got up and Dallas is looking around, you know,
waiting for waiting for the sale to come back, and
(15:18):
it's too late. The Memorial Day sale is over. Seriously, man,
it's it's time to pay or else the price is
only gonna go up. I don't get it. I don't
understand what the what the logic here is? Yeah, I
think that's Um. That's the thing that this could have
been done a year ago. Um, they could have done it.
And at the time it would have sounded like a
crazy deal to give him Garoppolo, Cursins, Kirk Cousins money.
(15:41):
But I mean now that would look like a bargain
basement deal. What what upsets people? And I think what
people need to understand. They're upset at the notion of
Dak Prescott making more than Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers
based on a number of factors. Uh, we just can't
understand that he hasn't now played those guys, why would
(16:02):
he get more? Well? Uh, in this business like the
next guy up kind of sets the marketing continues to
go like that's just the way that it is. And
when you are one of thirty two um squads without
a quarterback, if you have one one who has been
able to be reliable and produced at a high level
and be consistent in all those other things, you typically
(16:24):
try and hang onto him. So UM a lot of conversation.
But I just think is off season five. I don't
think anything serious is coming out of it outside of
Dack sentning a big deal. Are you surprised that that
they chose to do Zeke and a Marie Cooper first
of the big three that we had a conversation about
last week or last year, which was and we had
Clarence Hill and at the time on on with us
(16:46):
here at Fox Sports Radio, and it was all right,
well they've got Dak, they've got Zeke, and they've got
a Marie Cooper And it was like, all right, well, well,
if you could only sign two of the three, which
two would you sign? In no combination excluded Dak Prescott,
and yet here we are those other guys have their
contract and Dak still waiting around for his. Yeah, it's crazy.
It's it's uncommon for franchise quarterback to kind of have
(17:07):
to wait at the end of all to to get
the deal done. But that's just where the Cowboys happen.
And at some point, maybe Dak Prescott and his representatives
just gonna flip it and say, you know what, we're good.
We'll just play on the tag this year, and if
you come back to us next year, you gotta pay
us big money. And if you come back on UM
a bigger deal or whatever, like, if you're saying my rights,
(17:28):
then I'm really going to get paid because if he
balls out in Mike McCarthy's system, it is going to
send his number through the roof UM and and that's
and then we we've talked about this before. The roster
has only gotten better, the coaching may have only gotten better.
So for people that don't like this price tag, you're
not gonna like what the next one is. I mean
the thirty one million dollars, that's that's the floor, right
(17:51):
like that, He's not going anything below thirty one million
dollars a year, which would be the franchise tag if
he signed it. Yeah, now that that that's it. He's
locked in. When he got that ranch, as did, they
put him in a completely different stratosphere when it comes
to the amount of money day he's going to make.
He uh lands at a pretty obviously has a nice situation.
He has everything. So now it's just a matter of
(18:13):
Canna Dallas cowboys just say, you know what, man, this
is going to hurt. It's gonna standing for a few weeks,
maybe a couple of months, but eventually there's gonna be
some guys that surpassed his number, and he had to
be okay with that. Do you think that Tony Pollard
is a better running back than Walter Payton? Okay, because
Tony Pollard right now is making more than Walter Payton
(18:34):
was in the prime of his career when he was
making seven dollars. So for all the people out there
that don't like the whole idea of well, he's not better.
Just because the market went up doesn't mean you have
to reward those guys. Know, it's called inflation. It's all
around you. Gas is cheaper now because people aren't driving.
Guess what, check back in a month or two and
we're back near four dollars a gallon. This is how
(18:56):
the economy works. This is how this works. DA's contract
and his umber is only going to go up. And
then if Kansas City signs homes and gives him thirty
eight million dollars or Deshaun Watson gets thirty seven million dollars,
the number goes up. Yes, I don't understand. I don't
get why people are are struggling with this. And I
(19:17):
also look, even if this was true, if Dak Prescott
asked for forty five million dollars in the fifth year,
even if that was true, if you actually look at
where the numbers might be five years from now, it
might not be the craziest number in the world because
we could be staring at quarterbacks contracts that are in
the mid forties by that time, based on gambling revenue
(19:39):
coming into the league, the television revenue, all of that stuff.
So it's not like these are unreasonable asks from Dak Prescott. No,
it's not an unreasonable ask. And people go back to
the thirty three million dollar deal that he was offered
and turned down. During the season. Well at the time, uh,
that appeared to be a big deal, but locally it
shouldn't have been because I mean just the way that
(20:00):
it was constructed, Like you just have to understand what
it is like some of this money that is being
thrown out there, the numbers and all that there is
uh inflation and kind of the cost of doing business
that always ramps up and escalates and so and if
I'm the Dallas Cowboys, I hustle to get this deal
done because I don't want had my homes to set
(20:24):
a new precedent for what quarterbacks get. And then I
have to go back and deal with Dad. What was
the most contentious negotiation you ever had as a in
a contract situation? Like like what what did you haggle over?
You wanted a private jet and they said no, helicopter.
I would say the most contentious was had nothing to
do with playing. But when I just got in and
(20:45):
I went full time and I went full time at
a NFL med the NFL network, and I remember going
back and forth would negotiate because at the time I
was representing myself and just hey man, I need more,
and he's like mmm mm hmmm. I don't know if
I don't know, you know you when you know, when
you they just push their number across and then you
push your number back, and then they pushed the same
(21:05):
number back and you're like, no, just no, you offer
I counter. Did we meet in the middle. Yeah, no,
we're not doing that. That whoa okay, wow, all right,
give me some time. I need to go back and
remod negotiation or what about as a player, didn't did
any or were you just like, hey man, I'll take whatever. No,
(21:27):
because like what happened like after being draft in the
second round and didn't once you um are cutting your
journey and like you don't have any leverage to sit
there and hey I need this and kind of get
a little workout bonus, and I mean you just kind
of take the scraps. So I was taking the scraps
at the time, but now the scraps are significant. You
can get reach off the scraps. Scraps um the money
(21:49):
that's floating around. Now you make a ton of money,
which is also why Dak Prescott is I said Dak
Prescott fourth round pick. They never addressed his contract, so
he had to sit in the same aim draft class
with Jerry Golf and Carson Wentz, see them win and
then see them get Boo Coop money without even like
(22:11):
a fight. And so he's sitting there having to go,
i mean, boils to the wall to try and get
his money. It's just it's tough and and by the way,
and people aren't gonna like this, but it needs to
be said because I believe that it's a fact. He's
had a better career than Carson Wentz. I'm sorry, he's
had a better career so far than Carson Wentz. Oh yeah, man, man,
you can said, you can said the outrage. You can
(22:34):
said you can set it on fire. See that here.
Here's what I would say, because you have to use
all three guys, So it has to be Jerry Golf,
Carson Wentz, and Dak Prescott, and you can make the
argument that Deck Prescott has been more successful, if not
just settling for as successful as those guys in the
same conference with Carson Wentz in the same division. Um yeah,
(22:56):
so hard for me to move off to spot. Yeah,
I want Actually we should do this later on if
we went back to that entire quarterback draft class. I
think there's an argument to be made that maybe Dak
Prescott's the best quarterback of the draft class, like like,
so yeah, we should do that later on. We'll we can.
We can look at each of those because and and
look there were numbers that came out on deep throws
things like that this week. I know you tweeted about it.
(23:17):
So yeah, we can get into that later on, because
I do think it's an interesting discussion the reality of
Dak as opposed to the opinion of Dak for many
people on social media. We are brought to you by Geico.
Although we're apart these days, we're sharing more and Geico

Coming up next, a very bizarre situation is happening before
your very eyes in the NFL. We'll get to the
bottom of why that is next here on Fox Sports Radio.
But for all the latest from around the world of sports,
we welcome in the broadcast legend Tom Broke on to
(24:02):
tell us who the hell's on the updates today. Tom ya, gosh,
how the likesh? What's up? Tell us? What's up? Gas?
How are you holding up? Good? Just hanging out? Starting
to heat up a little bit, so you know, it
feels like we're getting back a little bit of normalcy.
(24:23):
Dave's gonna start wearing tank tops into the studio. I've
never wore a tank top. Was Oh yeah, that was
the other update anchor. Sorry, I don't know if I
could do that. Maybe like Sam, I was Sam, I
have like an Iowa tank top and like Geane cut
up shorts poor man's version of Stone called Steve. Alright,
(24:44):
you gotta be honest here. I want everybody to be honest, alright,
no judging, all right, I don't want everybody to be honest.
Have you ever worn a wife beater to the gym? No? No, never, alright,
because I have so listen it. It's one of my
most regrettable fashioned decisions of all time. I'm mortified at
(25:04):
the idea of I'm embarrassed because now now I see
guys do it at the gym, and I'm like, God,
what a toolbox that guy is, And I think to myself, Oh,
that was you were that toolbox several years ago. So
don't don't be so judgmental. It was terrible. What an
awful idea. To be fair, you work out like at
four or five o'clock in the morning, though, don't you.
There's no excuse, There is no time, there's no there's
(25:27):
there's just it's like it's like, you know, trying to
come up with an excuse for you know why one
d UI is not as bad as the other. Listen, man,
you were driving hammer. It doesn't matter if it was
two in the afternoon or midnight. No excuse man, Sam,
have you what's that? Oh? No, I said no. Earlier,
you guys weren't listening to me. I said no, Lee?
(25:48):
Have you lee? Lee? Uh no, no, no, So this
is all you meant. I know this, trust me. I'll
wear it. I'm glad you guys don't do it. I
wouldn't recommend it. Terrible. Have you ever worn jeans shorts? Oh? God?
Back in the day? Yeah, as a remember remember do
you guys remember? I don't know if this was a
national brand. You remember Miller's outpost? Okay, there must be Well,
(26:13):
screw you, Bucky, all right, don't be don't be um
and stuff like that. I've never heard of there was
an out there was it was called a Miller's outpost.
Somebody tweet me if they remember Miller's outpost at the
Jonah Knocks um. But they had they had these gene
shorts called anchor blue. We were called anchor blue jean
shorts and they were so I remember having some anchor
(26:34):
blue jean shorts and they were awful. They're so bad.
So did you wear the jeene shorts with a no
fear shirt and a chain never never never cut off?
Yea never never once added no fear shirt? I think
I think it's one of the worst inventions of all time. Like,
can you you just remember those like that you just
(26:56):
sitting I remember sitting in class and seeing the back
of some guy's shirt. It would you say, bottom of
the ninth two out bass is loaded dot dot dot
no fear Shut up, man, you didn't You didn't lose
if you never gave up. Like it's so it's literally
like stuff you stuff stuff that would be a joke
on a fortune cookie they would put on the back
(27:18):
of a T shirt and fear shirt terrible. Did you
guys ever take your jeans that had holes in the
knees and then turn them into jean shorts because that's
what I did, because then it was like a repurpose
clothing bit. We did that. I wore a lot of
hand me down so I was growing up. You know,
traffic is picking up here on Ventura Boulevard is always
go take a look at it. It's gonna stay alright. Iowa,
(27:42):
Sam and Daisy Dukes. I'm in soul all night. Wow,
what's going on? I don't know, guys. The NBA sent
at thirty Generald managers asking for some feedback. They want
to know if they want to have a playing tournament
or regular season plus postseason play. The NBA is also
(28:04):
working on getting their games back at a centralized location.
It could be in Orlando, beginning at the late end
of July at ESPN wide World of Sports Complex there
in Orlando. Major League Baseball Blue Jays no matter what
goes down, and committed to paying all their full time
employees through October. The first good job. And it's a
good job by them. Yeah, And who is it the
(28:26):
It's the Angels. The Angels furllowing them and also furllowing
their scouting department. So even though the draft is run
around the corner they're chopping the blocks on that too.
And are those guys making like Bucky, you're a scout
for a while, are those guys making us like scouts?
You can make, man, you can make You can make
decent money as a scout, Like I would say, the ranges,
(28:50):
um I've heard have gone anywhere from thirty five to
two K, depending on experienced level and the level of
scout that you are. Yeah, so those guys in En
I'm making a lot. And so it's disappointed that they
decided to furlough those guys because I can't understand what's
the point, Like, you know, baseball is eventually going to
(29:11):
come back. You know you're going to have to be
able to be prepared for the draft? What what? What
is the big deal? Now? I also think that you know,
by doing them a solid, not that you know, not
that it looks you know that it's all about pr
but by doing them a solid, I think that those
employees remember that moving forward. I would think that these
(29:31):
scouts would remember if an if an offer came down,
came down the pike later on from from another organization
like and and say these guys are brought back in
a month or two I mean they're probably gonna gonna
feel a little bit, you know, burned by what happened
that in a in a time of panic, in a
time of stress, that they lost their job when other
(29:52):
organizations around Major League Baseball went out of their way.
I think the Cardinals were one of them, was one
of the organist I think the Phillies might have been another.
Want if I'm not mistaken, who have committed to paying
all of their all of their employees full pay until
I think it was the end of June. And by
that time you would assume that we've got at least
a plan in place to continue on with the Major
(30:14):
League Baseball season. If you're one of the organizations that
just not paying your employees, I don't know. That feels
like a bad look around Major League Baseball for some teams. Yeah,
if they don't put those money into the research and
development department and there's a problem, um, this should be
uh an opportunity that they really take advantage of. This
is an opportunity for them to be on big stage
(30:35):
to kind of understand like where the support is going.
So I just I just believe they got to do
it the right way. And I'm I'm looking forward to it.
I'm just man, I think everyone we just kind of
wants it to get back to normal, and so this
would be a huge step in the right direction. I mean,
I want a hot dog, and I want a beer,
and I want baseball and fourth the children. And I
don't think that Dodger do. I mean, listen, I mean
(30:56):
Dodging nothing against Dodger dogs. M I've what is going
on here happening? You should feel when you have an
opportunity to get a Dodger dog. All right, Well, let
me just tell you this, for for adults out there
that want a little bit of a twist on the
Dodger dog, they make a spicy Dodger dog that is outrageous.
(31:19):
It is fantastic. So if next time you're a Dodger stadium,
for all our Dodger fans listening on the Great A
M five seventy l A Sports the Home of the Dodgers,
the blow towards the flagship of Fox Sports Radio, the
spicy Dodger dog is the best thing in the park.
And I don't even think it's close. It's close. Spicy. Yeah,
I'm telling you, man, I like spicy food. Chicago dogs.
(31:41):
You ever had a Chicago Dogs. Chicago Dogs are fantastic. Yeah, yeah,
they're good. Man a lot on them, but they're good,
all right. Um, Jonah sucks Bucky Brooks here on Fox
Sports Radio from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios, where
it's easy to stay fifteen cent or more on car
insurance with Geico. Go to Geico dot com call eight
nine seven Auto. The only hard part figuring out which
(32:02):
way is easier. Coming up next, UM, a bizarre situation
in the NFL involving a really really good player. But
what is really happening behind the scenes. That's next year
on fs ARE and the rest of that. He's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can
check out the show on the I Heart or radio app.
(32:23):
Coming up in we'll call it a little over ten
minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio. We could
see something different in the NFL. Something different. We'll get
to all the details of that here a little over
ten minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio, Bucky,
before we get into this bizarre NFL story. UM, I
(32:43):
feel vindicated. There there are now people that are tweeting saying,
yes we uh we remember Miller's outpost. Miller's outpost was
the clothing store I remember as a child that we
brought up, and so there are people that are bringing
up that it was around in like the seventies and eighties. Um.
Another guy said the place sucked, so uh's Uh, so
(33:06):
there's that. Bernie Fratto, Fox Sports radio host tweeted me
and said that or sent me attacks saying that there
was one in Tustin, UM and that Doug Gottlie would
remember it. So a little bit of vindication but also
criticism to go along with it. What the hell is
going on with Jamal Adams and the Jets? What's happening?
Man like man? They have a weird way of showing
(33:30):
a player that he loved them. Uh. Look, I think
ultimately is this. I think there's a difference of opinion
in the value that they see with Jamal Adams. Jamal
Adams sees himself as an integral player, a core player,
part of what should be the foundation of a championship
caliber team. The front office, for whatever reason, obviously doesn't
see him in that light. Some of it may be
(33:52):
the player himself in terms of the way that he plays,
but some of it may also be the position. In
the National Football League, there are positions. The positions that
typically command um the big money, the franchise money would
be quarterback, left tackle, pass russia, and cornerback. For whatever reason,
safety isn't viewed as kind of like a foundational piece
(34:17):
to the championship puzzle. And so if Jamal Adams has
I won't say outlandish contract demands, maybe Joe Douglas and
the New York Jets staff just sees it as like, man,
he's a really good player, but it's not enough for
us to commit big dollars when it's outside of what
traditionally would be known as the foundational positions. And I
(34:39):
wondered about this because their relationship took a turn when
his name was brought up in trade rumors last season
and and there the Cowboys. This is a report the
Cowboys offered a first and a third if if if
the Cowboys came back to them with a first and
a third for Jamal Adams, if you're the Chet, you
take that trade, correct, I'm I get if you think
(35:01):
you can pick players, yeah, like that's what you do. Like, um,
I will say this like being around the league long
enough to know that where they're smoked, there's fire and
Jamal Adams names. His name keeps coming up in in
these these trade mentions. Uh, something is happening where someone
they're having conversations about Jamal Adams. Whether it's the Jets
initiating it or just listening to people uh providing it
(35:25):
with pitches, there is something that's going on with the player,
and so they have to make a decision whether they
want to squash it or not, because it's really easy
to squash it. You come out, you have a press conference.
Jamal Adams is that guy. We see him as a
foundational piece to the puzzle. We want to pay him.
We're gonna pay him what he's worth down the line.
Right now is not the time, but trust us, we're
(35:48):
going to get the deal done and he is going
to be a Jet for a long time. And they
haven't come out and said anything like that though, Yeah,
they haven't spoken publicly to defend him or anything like that.
And so I just think that in certain times, hims
like you know, everybody's been in the relationship where you
have that one fight that somebody never recovers from, you know,
that that one argument, that one and there's that one
(36:10):
comment made that they never forget about and they never
get over. And I feel like in the Jets Jamal
Adams relationship, the fact that his name was floated out
there at the trade deadline and he went to Twitter
about it, I don't think he'll ever forgive them. I
think the relationship is scarred permanently. And I think if
if you're the Jets who already placed, you know, the
(36:30):
fifth year of rookie tag on him for a little
over nine million dollars Jamal Adams once an extension, it
feels like something could be done this offseason if the
right offer came along. I wonder if the Jets look
at this and go, look the bridges burned, We got
to move forward. Yeah, I think it very well could
get to that point. Jamal Adams is a really good player,
like one of the best players at his position. For
(36:53):
the Jets, though, they have to look at what he
brings to the table, how much money he wants, and
how that would affect their salary cap and how much
is he going to impact their chances of winning at
the highest level. And so that is what you take
in when you're doing these negotiations and right now. They
may not see his value the way that Jamal sees
(37:15):
his value, and that's always gonna be problematic when you
get to the negotiating table. And he was the only guy,
if I'm not mistaken, of the top five from that
draft class whose fifth year rookie option was picked up. Ye,
so so of the top of that draft class, he's
been the best player by far, but they're not winning games.
And then and also look Adam Gaze, and I like
(37:38):
Adam Gaze because he reminds me so much of Ja Cutler.
I just think they have a similar personality where they're
a little bit kind of aloof and and sort of
out there a little bit and maybe not the most
warm and friendly. But then you hear people who are
are close to him and say, no, they're they're hysterical.
They're great guys, but they're just not one of these
warmer I wonder if Adam Gaze maybe relationship wise of
(37:58):
some of the players on his team tams he You know,
that's where there's a little bit of a disagreement because
Jag I was traded and apparently they didn't get along
at all. Jarvis Landry I heard Jarvis Landry and Gaye
didn't get along at all. So I wonder if this
is just sort of a continuation of that. Yeah. Here,
here's what I can say about Adam Gates and what
I've heard. What I've heard is, look, he's he's a
(38:20):
really good coach, he's organized or whatever. But from a
personality standpoint, he's not a strong personality. He wouldn't necessarily
strike you as an alpha personality. And so when you
have strong personalities in the locker room, I e. A. Jarvis, Landry,
A J A. G I. Um, those guys and Adam
they didn't necessarily get along because they have strong personalities.
(38:41):
And sometimes when you're dealing with a strong personality player
as a hey coach, you gotta tell him he man,
you need to sit down. I I I got this.
You need to bark back at them. And so if
he is uncomfortable having those tough conversations, it just allows
those strong personalities to just kind of run them uck
in the locker room. And so maybe, just maybe his
(39:02):
personality isn't strong enough to kind of have that quote
unquote man to man conversation with Jamal Adams, and so
it will continue to spiral a lot of control the relationship,
that is, until they are able to have these real conversations.
And my favorite Gaye story from last year is when
Minish Meta, who it's so obvious he's got a grudge
against Adam Gaze from the New York Daily News. I
(39:22):
think that's from He's from the New York Daily News. Um,
he was reporting on something and one of the reports
said that Adam Gaze walks around and says, I don't
care if the fans don't like me. I'm rich. It's
like like he was appropriate, and there was no validity
to the report, but that was one of the rumors.
It was something along those lines. The second I heard it,
I said, that's my head coach. That's the guy I
(39:42):
want telling you, man. I mean, here's something to that.
Jonahs knocks Bucky Brooks here Fox Sports Radio more next

(40:27):
Everybody listening here on Fox Sports Radio, and most importantly,
the man himself, Bucky Brooks. What's going on? Jonas? What's
happening in? You got a barbecue lined up this weekend? Bucky?
And I would love, I would love. I would love
to make that happen, though, I would love to see
if I can figure that out. You know, do you
know what to barbecue? I mean, yeah, I don't. I don't.
(40:49):
Don't you don't. You can't find your way around the group. No,
I do one thing. I do guacamole. And why why
wouldn't you? Because don't you have avocados like your favorite fruit?
Like everything? You just all dovetails back to that. I mean,
I don't think we really need to bring up old
wounds from a week ago. Do we need to judge
people there for their top five? Just you love it.
(41:11):
So I've been told that I make the best guacamole
on the planet, and it's so good that it's called
Daddy's squawk. Do you know what It's called Daddy's walk
because after you take a bite of it, you'll forget
who your daddy is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, daddy, Daddy. Thank you.
(41:32):
Jerry Jerry, Jerry Jones chiming in here on Fox Boards Radio.
All right, So, Bucky Brooks, the Philadelphia Eagles, which I
would say are one of the better run organizations in
the NFL, would you agree as far as top the bottom. Yes,
they seem to do a lot of things right, which
which is probably going to be you know, a knee
and the groin to cowboy fans out there who hate
(41:53):
the Philadelphia Eagles. But they do a lot of things right.
And they came up with this idea, and the Philadelphia
Eagles uh through this out there to see whether or
not this could be approved. But it's getting a lot
of positive feedback. And here is the idea. Instead of
the current on site kick, the Philadelphia Eagles proposed, how
(42:17):
about a one play fourth and fifteen from your own
twenty five yard line if you convert the first down,
you keep the football. If not, you turn the ball
over and it's a fail. And you can do it
twice in a game. I don't know about you, I'm
all in. I think this is a fantastic idea. It's
it's sort of a twist on what the a F
(42:39):
did a couple of years ago. I would be a
huge fan of this. I think there's so many positives
to it. I'm I'm struggling to find a negative. I
love the idea, and I hope the NFL approves it.
Look I like it a lot. Um It's a little
different obviously, but I think it gives you an opportunity
to bring back something that would allow you to retain
(42:59):
possession of the ball. And so when we look at it,
fourth and fifteen is converted at about twenty five, a
little over at the time. And so now, if you
are an offense with a quarterback like a Pat Mahomes
or whatever you mean, you take that all day. Because
we saw the play that Pat Mahomes made in the
Super Bowl on to get the ball to Tyreek Hill
(43:20):
on a desperate situation, and so you'd like to think
that you have that from a defensive standpoint having a
defense for fourth and fifteen could be hard. I would
be more inclined to if I know that the ball
has to come out, they have to get fifteen yards,
I'm more likely to overload blitz them. I mean, I'm
gonna bring more than they can protect, make the ball
come out, and then rally and tackle. But I think
(43:43):
it brings some strategy to it. Um. I think it's
one of those things where you can do it twice
a game if you're very, very confident in your offense.
Um the game could be. It could become a little
like Madden. But I'm okay with that. And give the
Eagles credit because the A A F has already kind
of done this. Adds are already used to seeing it,
(44:07):
and so it's easier to kind of bring it in
now as opposed to if they were just the first
team to try and do it. And I think that
the Denver broncos um through this proposal out a year ago.
But the reason why this one is getting more positive
returns is because Denver's idea, I think was from further
up and so and so the reason why they feel
(44:28):
this one's got a better chance of passing is because
it's from the as opposed to where Denver's I think
was from the thirty five if I'm not mistaken, But
there was a difference in where the ball would be
placed um in this situation, and I just think I
know that it was done for safety, and I know
that why the NFL changed the on site kick. There
was a lot of pressure that was happening. You're a
(44:50):
guy who was a kick returner, Um, you know how
violent kick returns are. I mean, it used to be
like one of the most violent plays ever. If you've
ever stood on the sidelines or heard some of the
cracking um and collisions from guys trying to break the
wedge or anything like that on a kickoff. So I
understand that that on side was similar. I watched a
(45:11):
buddy of mine get wiped out in a high school
football game on an on side kick, and that was
high school football. I can't imagine what the old on
site kick was in the NFL. Yeah, no, it looks
it's crazy dangerous. It was um not ideal, and if
you think about safety and those things, uh, it certainly
would would be tough. And the thing about it now
(45:32):
is it's impossible to get on side kick like I mean,
you're talking about converting it less than ten percent rate. Um,
you're behind you score, you go to do an onside
kick like this point is because the odds are significantly
against you. Whereas moving this fourth and fifteen, which is
a play on the a F proposal a F it
(45:52):
was fourth and twelve from the eight. Um doing fourth
and fifteen from it has three yards. But um, I
think it's a very very compelling, very compelling play, and
I think it does bring a little something to it. Um,
it's definitely not easy to do, but I think it
would be a good I think it'd be a good rule.
And it actually if you go back to the old
(46:13):
on site kick and look at the percentages a success
rate based on UM the old on site kick, there
was like a four year stretch that they did the percentages,
and then if you look at the fourth and fifteen
attempts from a year ago, they're about identical as far
as conversion rates on the old on side kick and
how many times it's successfully converted as opposed to the
(46:34):
fourth and fifteen from a year ago. Yeah, and I
think what it does, Man, you are defensive coordinated. You
have to have a clear strategy for how you want
to approach these these things. Um, do you want to
sit at the sticks, meaning that you have everyone's dropped
to the depth of the first down marker? Keep everything,
keep everything, and keep everything in front rally and talcle. Uh.
(46:55):
Do you want to pressure the quarterback and make the
ball come out and hope that your guy can make
one on one tackles on the perimeter? Uh? Do you
want to do a blend? Um? I think it does
bring that into the equation. I also think a hot
quarterback when you get it going to me, it really
reminds me of the video game Rosebery playing Matt and
when you're playing in your dorm room with your buddies. Um,
(47:16):
there's a lot on it, Um, a couple of bucks.
So you, uh, you're trying to put out all the
stops to make sure that you position yourself in a
position to win. And so yeah, I like hi, man,
I Actually I just think this as another layer. And
even though it's not the football that we grew up with,
I think I'm ready to evolve to the point where
(47:38):
we can make it a doable deal. And here's here's
the reason why I'm on board with it, because when
they moved the extra point back from twenty yards to
the thirty three, I didn't like it at all because
I was too stuck in my traditional ways. From the
time I started watching football in the NFL, it was
always a twenty yard extra point, and my thought on
it was, why are you messing with this? It feels
(47:58):
like we're at a carnival, and now it feels like
a circus. Well, now it's thirty three yards as opposed
to twenty yards, Like, who cares if? It's a sort
of a throwaway play. And when you hear Roger Goodell
and the league describe why it is that they moved
it back, they didn't. They wanted to make a play
that normally wasn't exciting more exciting. And I was a
(48:20):
percent wrong. It's been brilliant for the game. It's been
awful for the kickers, but brilliant for the game from
an entertainment standpoint. So I was wrong on that. The
NFL was correct. Roger Goodell got that right. Oh, you
absolutely get it right. And it brought some some exciting
things to it because we did begin to see kickers
miss extra points. We we also saw more people take
(48:41):
advantage of the two point play. Um, I think we
will see some other things spring out of this. Let's
keep it involvement. Let's make it about the fans. Like
if the NFL is doing everything in their power to
drum up scoring and to make it excitement, and it's
very offensive centric, I mean, why not why not go
about this part of the game. I'm I'm excited to
kind of hear how the vote turns out, because I
(49:04):
think this would be something that we would really get
excited about in the regular season. Yeah, I would be
shocked if it didn't pass. I think I think it.
I think it makes a lot of sense. And also
in a league that's all about the bright quote unquote
bright young offensive mind. Okay, well here's your opportunity. You
got one play. You gotta pick up fifteen yards. How
you gonna do it? I mean, I just I think
I think it's I think it's really really interesting football
(49:26):
in late game situations, and it's doing exactly what the
extra point did when they moved it back from twenty
to thirty three yards. They're taking a gun of a
play that doesn't work and they're making it exciting. You
now can't turn off the television or walk away to
go get a beer or a snack in the other room.
Because this is a real play that could actually work,
and it's got to and it's a more exciting play.
(49:49):
You're not relying on a gimmick trick kick to try
and convert. I think it puts a lot of pressure
on on offenses, on the quarterbacks, and I'd much rather
with the game on the line, see the ball in
the quarterback's hands than on the foot of the kicker. Yeah,
I'm digging it. I really, I really really like I thought,
I like the proposal. Um. I like some of this stuff.
I know they're also talking about the sky judge or
(50:09):
they may call it something differently, but basically having a
full time officials sitting up there to be able to
uh look and look at the monitor and kind of
help the officials make the correct call. Um. I think
some of this stuff is necessary. I think we have
the technology we have to know how we also have
the desire to kind of want more. Um, I think
we should push the envelop a little bit. Yeah, and
and the idea of you know, hope, if if you
(50:32):
feel like you've still got hope, that increases the number
of eyeballs that are going to be on the television afterwards,
because there's gonna be a point to where people are
watching the red Zone channel and you could have simultaneously
three or four or two or three different on site
attempts late games to where teams are going for fourth
and fifteens. And because you can use it twice in
(50:53):
a game. This, I mean, there's it's got an opportunity
to be one of the more exciting plays in football.
It's it's an untimed down. It's quote unquote for all
the marbles to try and maintain possession. If you're a
fan of that team, all of a sudden, the on
site kick that you walked away from because you just
didn't think your team was going to recover it. Because
the percentages are solo, you're more interested if you play
(51:15):
fantasy football and you've got one of these players on
offense going for that fourth and fifteen, that could make
or break your week. If you're a gambler, degenerate gambler.
Not that I am rubs, I mean it's not what
I do. But if you're a degenerate gambler, I think
it changes everything late in games. I I really hope
it gets passed. I would be shocked if it doesn't.
I think it would be a mistake if they don't pass. Yeah,
I think I think this would be um. I think
(51:37):
it would be a good thing to do, because I
also want you to understand, like when we talk about
the ebbs and flows and momentum of the game, if
you're trying this onsete kick at the end of the game,
it means that you're probably coming now. It means that
you are coming off of school, yea, whether it's a
field goal or a touchdown. And you just kind of
wonder in games, how does momentum impact not only the
players but the coaches. How does the df us A
(52:00):
coordinator gear his mind up to stop a fourth and
fifteen after they might have given up a critical score.
Is he able to kind of get back on it
and hone in And does he have a clear strategy
for how the team is going to attack him? Is
he an aggressive guy that is a man? You know what?
I'm a dial up depressure and forced you to react?
Or am I going to sit back and just play
(52:21):
the odds and the percentages? A lot of strategy that
comes into me absolutely, and I also wonder this if
if to your point, if you're coming off a long
drive and your team scores and you've got momentum, here's
what else, You've got a tired defense. So I actually
wonder if the percentages are going to be higher than
the fourth and fifteen attempts from a year ago based
(52:42):
on the fact that you've got a defense that's probably
been on the field for a little bit of time.
There's gonna be a time out in between, but not
not exactly a full time out. The offense is gonna
want to get back out there and call the right play.
I just wonder if if a a a sort of
a tired defense and exhausted defense at that time means
that the numbers that scentages of conversion rates are going
to go up. Oh absolutely, I mean you're you're you're adding.
(53:05):
I mean you're adding to the pace and the frenzy
and the tempo. And we talked about momentum and momentum
it can be a real thing when you're on the
sideline and you get to go into The offensive coordinator
is now in a rhythm because he has seen a
couple of his plays go for big games and they're
coming off a score, be at a field goal or
a touchdown. Coming back, your quarterback feels like, hey man,
I'm in the zone. I'm hot. Um, that's a lot
(53:27):
to deal with. And you also from the defensive vantage point,
how do I get my guys geared up to a
all we gotta do no matter what happened here, we
are right now. If we get a stop, we win.
So let's just focus on getting off the field on
fourth and fifteen. And I've talked about the odds to
odds anywhere, like it's a low percentage um play. However,
(53:50):
at that moment when you're looking at osset kicks being
at about a seven or eight percent conversion rate versus eight, Yeah,
I'm gonna take these odds all day for set. And
by the way, what an advantage for Kansas City. I mean,
like if you just if and Andy Reid even spoke
about it, oh you know, yeah, it kind of gives
us an advantage for Patrick Mahomes with that offense and
those weapons in that quarterback. Kansas City has got to
(54:12):
feel good about this world change. I mean, it happened
because the big play with Tyreek Hill, I want to
say it was on third and fifteen and they ran
Stinger and he came on that deep end and then
broke back to the corner and Pat Mahomes was able
to hit him after floating back almost twenty yards on
the thing like you're playing the game. Yes, um man,
it'd be. I just can't wait to see it. And hopefully,
(54:33):
um they'll get back to ball soon and maybe we'll
get a chance to see some of these play out
in the preseason. Yeah, it's gonna be a lot of fun.
Jonas Knocks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. You can check out
the show on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up next,
we will talk to our NFL analyst, former NFL quarterback
(54:54):
about a recent move in the National Football League and
what it means for a current free agent. And that's
next here on FSR. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox.
This is Fox Sports Radio. You can check out this
show on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up in
a little over ten minutes from now here on Fox
Sports Radio. It's the worst segment on radio. I'm not exaggerating.
(55:16):
We have tried to get rid of it. We've tried
to bury it. We've done everything we possibly can, and
it's like the Undertaker. It's hand just crawls through the
dirt and reaches up and continues to rise. Uh and
and and come back every single week. Uh So, the
worst segment in sports radio is coming up in a
(55:36):
little over ten minutes from now. If you don't believe me,
you can listen to it for yourself and you can decide.
So that'll be here on Fox Sports Radio right now,
from from the worst to the Best. He is Bruce Gradkowski,
former NFL quarterback now an analyst or Pro Football Focus,
joining us here on a Memorial Day weekend. And Bruce,
(55:57):
before we dive into the football stuff, are you still
on that cleans? Is your wife still punishing you for
some ungodly reason? Man? One more week, guys, one more week.
I think it ends Wednesday of this week. So I'm
fired up. Man. I'm gonna get a pizza, I'm gonna
get some tacos, I'm gonna have a margarita. I mean,
I'm gonna do it all. You go, undo all the
(56:19):
work that you've done with the cleans. You can't. You
can't sit in the house at twelve oh one right
after midnight and say, okay, I did it. I are
ready to go back. Come on, Brus, Bucky, You're absolutely right. Man.
It's like you do this this little clans and you know,
you eat right and you feel good, and then all
(56:40):
of a sudden, boom, it goes down the toilet when
you just kind of start crushing pizza again, and and
and all the sugar stuff you want to eat, ice cream,
But I don't know it's worth it, at least for
a night. I'm gonna go I'm gonna go wild. You
know it's gonna happen, Bruce, because I do cheat days.
And whenever you're really gearing up for a cheat day,
you're thinking about all the things that you're gonna have.
(57:01):
So you're thinking, I'm gonna have a cinnamon roll, and
then for lunch, I'm gonna have tacos, and I'm gonna
have a pizza, and then I got ice cream. And
you'll have one of those meals and because your stomach
is shrank without you knowing it, you're gonna get full
after one meal and you won't get to any of
the other stuff. Oh man, I I didn't even hear
what you said. Pats of cinnamon rules. I mean right
(57:21):
now telling you man, it's the best. Bruce we Gotta
We were just talking about this this new onsite kick
proposal that is being put out there upon approval from
owners around the NFL, in which it would instead of
an on site kick, you have the option of a
fourth and fifteen play from the twenty five yard line.
From a quarterback perspective, how do you feel about the play? No,
(57:45):
I love it. I think it's a more realistic opportunity,
uh for your team to have a chance to keep
it drive alive too, you know, um uh come back
instead of getting an onside kick, and then it makes
me think the Chiefs are gonna lose the game. I mean,
give Patrick Mahomes the fourth and fifteen and the dude
definitely can can convert that. So I I think it's
(58:08):
more exciting too because it's an actual play we'll have
to tune into and that's a legit. I mean, it's
harder to convert fifteen yards, but it's realistic enough. There's
enough plays in the playbook to get it done. You
see it more times than not on third and fifteen. Uh,
so it'll it will definitely be more interesting for the
(58:30):
average fan to just tune in and be like, man,
our team needs an onside kick. But now we could
go for it on fourth and fifteen and and possibly
keep the ball, and now we have a chance to
score tight or win. I think it would be awesome,
you know, Bruce. From from the quarterback standpoint, fourth and
fifteen is seen as like having long odds, long odds,
(58:50):
but there are a handful of plays that typically can
can work in that situation. From the defensive standpoint, are
you more likely to come with press or you're gonna
play odds and sit back? Yeah, I think you sit back,
play a lot of zone and you know, maybe like
a two man type coverage, uh and something like that.
I think offensively, you know, we have a lot of
(59:12):
routes in the playbook that you know, you're talking about
a big end route. It's eighteen to twenty yards deep
bench route is you know, eighteen to twenty yards you
have you know, you could call it deep stop routes
at the eighteen to twenty comebacks at twenty yards. So
there's a lot in your playbooks you could attack the
middle of the field, I mean, and there's different things
you can draw up. Especially now if if teams know
(59:33):
this is a realistic role, we'd always have our last
seven plays that you'd go over, you know, Saturday morning
dooring to walk through or Friday, you know, walk through
before practice, last seven plays depending on situations, depending on
if you need a first down to touchdown, you know,
one second left on the clock, you only have one play.
(59:54):
And now teams will practice and have a handful of
fourth and fifteen plays if they have to try for
it and not go for the onside kick. Now they
get an opportunity just to convert a for the fifteen.
I think it would be fun to watch Bruce Gradkowski,
former NFL quarterback, now an analyst for Pro Football Focus,
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas knocks Bucky
(01:00:14):
Brooks with you here on FS are Bruce, So, we
are starting to see in college football. You know, the SEC,
the Big twelve of announced that they're gonna allow student
athletes to return. There's gonna be some restrictions. Obviously they
wanted to be as sanitarian, as safe as possible, but
that's happening. Over the next couple of weeks. You're seeing
Tom Brady work with his receivers you're seeing Ben Roethlisberger
(01:00:35):
out there starting to throw the ball around a little bit.
You as a former quarterback at is this about the
time when you start to get together and get in
gear or is this a little later than normal and
and some guys might find themselves sort of behind, uh
a normal off season when we do finally kick things
off coming up in September. I mean, I think it's
(01:00:57):
definitely a little later than normal. Just because you're used
you around your facility, you'll start to throw with guys,
but not on a too serious level. I think it's
actually a really good time. You know, this is when
you do have to start cranking it up. You're almost
in June. This is when you see O. T. A.
S are getting kicked off. So now you do have
to get in football shape. You do need to get
(01:01:19):
on the same page with your wide receivers, you know,
work on the rail tree, the timing, the foot work,
um in your accuracy and all that. So I I
do think this is a perfect time. Um. You know, look,
we're all getting anti right, you know, I can't wait
to just go to a restaurant, sit down and have
a meal. And the same thing with players. You know,
you just can't wait to get back on the field
(01:01:39):
with your teammates and your coaches and really work on football.
I think all of us are excited to kind of
take the right step in the right direction, which which
I think we are as long as we're continue to
be cautious and all that. Um. So it's exciting when
I see guys continue to work on their craft, especially
Tom Brady. You know, he's taking the initiative call own guys,
(01:02:00):
getting guys together, because at the end of the day,
I mean, I know they're conscious and careful about what's
going on with the COVID nineteen, but you're also your
your your jobs at stake here. I mean, you need
to prepare, You need to get ready. You do have
to do the necessary things so you aren't left in
the dusk, especially a guy like Tom Brady. Philip Rivers.
(01:02:20):
You're going into the new system, new team, new teammates,
so you have to do these things. You know, Bruce,
I want to lean on your expertise as a quarterback
because you've had to prepare for seasons away and working
out on your own. I have noticed that, you know,
we've seen Tom Brady work out in the show to
pass and help and he was kind of like one
of the first to do that. And then I've seen
(01:02:41):
um like the receivers for the Buccaneers show up. But
also so Lamar Jackson and Hollywood Brown have their helmet off.
So tell me why you would go in the off
season and work out with your helmet on. Yeah, I
mean it totally makes sense. You know. I would usually
do that between you know, the month of July when
o T is Mini camp were done and you're getting
(01:03:02):
prepared for training camp. That's when all my workouts i'd
wear a helmet and shoulder pad because when you get
the training camp, when you get you know, the pre season,
during the season, that's what you play in. That's what
you're throw in. And of course as a quarterback, I
love just throwing and no shoulder pads and no helmet.
You know, it's it's clear, you could see better. You know,
nothing's on your shoulders inhibit it you your throwing motion.
(01:03:26):
But man, that's not real football. That's not realistic. So
I think it's smart when you see Tom Brady Lamar Jackson,
because that's what you plan, so why not you gotta
get used to it. Um and that's what I used
to do. I I would even condition sometimes in my
shoulder pads and helmet because it would make it that
much more difficult, and it's that much more realistic because
at the end of the day, when the season starts,
(01:03:48):
that's what you're playing in. It's it's so funny you
guys bring that up, because that's actually what made me
fall for Johnny manziel uh And and buying the Manzell
when he had when he had when he had his
Pro day and he was in helmets and shoulder pads
and everyone said, whoa, We've never seen this before. And
he had a great Pro day and it was better
than Teddy Bridgewater who didn't have those things. I thought,
(01:04:09):
oh my god, this guy is gonna be a home run.
And then two years later he was out of the league,
So what the hell do I know? You know? And
that was ballsy by him to to wear that, because
as a quarterback, I want to be I want to
be perfect on Pro day, so that's the last thing
if if I could get away with not wearing that,
and no one's gonna think twice of it. So that
was pretty cool when he did that at the time
(01:04:30):
because He's like, look, man, this is real football. I'm
gonna wear this stuff and show you you know, I'm
ready to roll. Uh. He is Bruce Gradkowski, Bruce last
one for me, former NFL quarterback, now an analyst for
Pro Football Focus here on Fox Sports radioh The Jets
signed Joe Flacco to a contract a million plus three
million dollars in incentives. He's going to be the backup there.
(01:04:50):
But what is that signing of Joe Flacco as opposed
to Cam Newton? Tell you about Cam newton situation. You
know what that of call. I think just signing Flacco
in general, or a veteran backup quarterback is smart. Wherever
you're at on your roster, on your team, you have
to make sure that quarterback position is handled that if
(01:05:13):
the starter goes down he's gonna miss four weeks or
a month or two runs or the season, that you
feel confident and comfortable with the guy you have behind them.
It's like getting a good insurance policy. I mean, look
what Dallas did with Andy Dalton. I think that's very smart.
I think it also shows with Cam Newton that you know,
teams want to see how healthy he really is. I
(01:05:34):
think this time has been hard to really navigate and
and look at that. But a lot of things when
you see guys sign there's a relationship somewhere somewhere, no
some someone someone in that organization, whether Joe Flacco was
in a system similar, whether someone in the personnel department
which I saw was with Flacco in Baltimore. So there's
(01:05:54):
some relationship of how that guy got there. Not necessarily
a knock on Cam Newton, but also something that you know,
it makes more sense for Joe Flacco to be there
based on his relationships, based on the the offense. The
you know, Joe Flacco is a really good passer from
the pocket, and you know sometimes coaches would prefer that.
(01:06:15):
Other coaches you want a little more athleticism and a
guy that can operate from the pocket and run. I mean,
and that's what Cam Newton brings. I think. I think
it's fullish. Cam Newton is still on the street right now,
but I think once training camp gets underway and teams
really get a look at their backup position, I think
it'll be no time in Cam Newton will have a job.
He is Bruce Gradkowski, former NFL quarterback, now an analyst
(01:06:38):
for Pro Football Focus. You can get him on Twitter
at b Gradkowski five. So, so, Bruce, the cleanses over,
when and when's your first meal? So the cleanses over,
I think Wednesday, but my wife's birthdays Thursday, so the
whole plan was the cleans was over for her birthday
on Thursday. And so I'm fired up because she already
has a plan. She wants like taco, Indian food, certain
(01:07:02):
cake and dessert, and I have to have my pizza.
So it's gonna be a busy day of eating, that's
for sure. Let me tell you, some Indian food is
so underrated. I don't know how people I think Indian
food is fantastic. I had it this week. It was phenomenal. Oh,
it's honestly, it's unbelievable. My parents won't like, my mom
won't trust me. She's like, I don't know about that,
and I'm like, it is unbelievable, especially if you know
(01:07:24):
how to order and my wife does, it's unbelievable. You're right, yeah,
little Well, we expect pictures on Twitter of your first
meal post post the cleansing as we can see, uh,
just how everything's going there, Bruce, thanks so much, man.
We appreciate it. Happy early birthday to your wife, and
we'll do it again next week. Absolutely, guys, have a
good weekend. Jonas Knocks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports
(01:07:47):
Radio from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. You ever
had Indian food, Bucky Brooks? Oh? Yeah, like I got
turned onto it when I went over um to London
and really so okay, Yeah, there's a there's a dish.
It's an appetizer dish. In a lot of places it's
called banging barta. But where I get it from, it's
called banging baggy from this place called Karma Indian Cuisine
(01:08:10):
and Thousand Oaks. I'm telling you man, if you get
it spicy with a little bit of the non the
bread and then and then they call you can you
can get the non with the with the hallapeno chunks
on it, and they call it disco non because it's
got a little bit more to it. Oh my god,
it's so good. Indian food is under I'm telling you man.
(01:08:34):
All right, he's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox. This is
Fox Sports Radio coming up next. Um again, this is
the worst segment in the history of sports stock radio.
I'm not making that up. If you think we're lying,
just wait till you hear it. That's here on Fox
Sports Radio. But for all the latest from around the
world of sports, ladies and gentlemen. The gas man, David Gasca,
(01:08:54):
How did they know that I got gas? And what other?
What other instruments do you play besides the piano? Um?
You know this is the I know if this for
the overnight, soon add an answer for you and I don't.
We're all friends. I think you can tell us that's
all right, I can I can play the drums a
little bit. Yeah, yeah, that's it. Speaking of trending, I
(01:09:16):
I saw someone on Twitter retweet this, uh this woman's
uh Twitter account because she actually made eight different clips
of herself doing the theme song to night Rider, Uh
playing the cello. It's pretty awesome. Yeah, it's pretty good. Listen,
Quarantine has let me let me tell you what she's
(01:09:37):
talented though she's a great artist. I agree. Listen, there's
there's a lot of really talented artists out here. Here's
who's not talented. People that use TikTok yes, talented trying
to use Chinese equipment. Here, here's here's what else needs
to stop this whole meme that goes around this before
and after my plans. It's some of the dumbest stuff
(01:09:58):
I see. It's got to stop. I actually and I
don't think this is unreasonable. I actually think that anybody
that posts a my plans picture side by side on Twitter,
um jail for thirty days. And I don't. I don't
think that's I don't think it's unreasonable. Day, but thirty
day jail sentence. Okay, you know what. I will make
one exception to that rule, and that's if you go
(01:10:21):
on Twitter today and you see who's trending in Kloyd Kardashian.
I've already seen, like wow, I listen. It is amazing
what a doctor will do these days. You know. It's
like I'm going to the grocery store, paper a plastic
and it's usually answer like like I don't know where
my hair starts and stops. Floyd Kardashian like, man, it's
(01:10:47):
a tailor, right, Like cut a lot here, cut a
little there. If you can, why not? Man, if you can,
why not? In my next laugh, I'm gonna be a Kardashian. Yeah,
never mind, yeah, squats lunches, Yes, of course. I wish
(01:11:11):
she was working the overnights tonight. Um, I don't even
know where to go. Um, guys. Uh College football Seat
Big twelve approve voluntary workouts for football related activities. Beginning
on June fifteen, Former Mississippi State stomp or d V
Darrien Jones transferred to Old miss Meanwhile, something's going on
the national football like the major thing. Guest goes for
(01:11:32):
Jamal Adams in the New York Jets. Charles Robinson and
Yahoo Sports reports the Jets are not actively shopping him,
but they will listen to other teams should they call
in right now. He says that the team is dragging
their feet on a long term deal for him. Uh, guys,
Unfortunately I had to send it back to you because
we have an awful, awful segment coming up. I agree,
(01:11:53):
but this segment needs full time, Davis, we can be
alive here for the guys to me. I'm listen from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio students, where it's easy to say,
fift more in car insurance with Geico. Go to Geico
dot comic call eight under nine four seven auto. The
only hard part figuring out which way is easier. I mean,
I like I was. He was like yelling at me,
you gotta move this along, gotta move like He's promised
(01:12:13):
the most star studded edition of the Iowa Minute that
we've ever heard. So because of that, we're going to
take a break now and we come back. What I
would contest is the worst eight minutes in the history
of sports radio. Here on FSR, he's Bucky Brooks. I'm
Jonas Knox is his Fox Sports Radio. You can check
out the show on the I Heart Radio app. Coming
(01:12:35):
up in fifteen minutes from now Here on fs are
Bucky Brooks sort of thought about a scenario in sports
that would be one of the biggest stories in a
long long time. I think the story is complete garbage
me personally, but we will dive into it. I'm skeptical,
(01:12:55):
all right. And it's not against Buckey Brooks. It's against
the people reporting the story and the person involved. So
that's coming up fifteen minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio.
I'll just say that, Um yeah, I just I just
think the stories BS. But you know what, you know
what's not BS Bucky Brooks, it's the worst segment in
sports radio called this Hey got a minute? Heaven? Oh Iowa,
(01:13:23):
like you give a damn now, presenting the most up
to date happenings from Iowa's four Division one teams, ladies
and gentlemen, thousand pigs. It's the Iowa Minute. Here's Iowa.
Sam a Jonas. Listen, you consistently disparage the Iowa Minute.
But the bottom line is this information to the people
(01:13:46):
need from the heartland. My friend, this is pertinent data
and content from a state one tenth the population size
of California. And we are a loaded baked potato today.
But hey, this isn't the Idaho Minute. It's the damn
Iowa Minute. That bad spud joke, brought to you by
our loyal sponsor up to the minute, Grain Prices. Yes,
(01:14:07):
thank you Grain Prices for being there through good times
and bad. And currently seed planting is in progress across
America's farms. Let's start with a slew of transfers coming
out of Iowa's Division one schools. I don't know, somebody,
(01:14:27):
make it stop. Little Peter, Paul and Mary there for you.
Oh my god, the would be Peter, Paul and Mike.
I don't care. The Iohawkeye football program had several transfer
announcements this past week, sophomore defensive back DJ Johnson is
leaving as our offensive lineman Ezra Miller and Jeff Jenkins.
The Hawkeyes did, however, pick up an experience in productive
(01:14:49):
grad transfer from Northern Illinois. The Huskies, Yes, defensive tackle
Jack Fflyn. He's six four pounds and comes to Iowa
with nine career sacks. How about that? Can I get
a cattle? I so sorry? Sam? Okay, you still there? Jonas? Yeah,
I got you. Hey, Bucky's still there, Dave's still there.
I can see him. Good, right, everyone's still with me? Great?
(01:15:11):
Hey listen, guys, some news out of aims cyclone backup
quarterback Real Mitchell will be transferring to Temple. Okay, sorry,
I like uh, he'll be transferring to Temple. That story
was first reported by owl scoop dot com. How about that?
What owl scoop dot com? Owl's but why is Temple
(01:15:32):
be being integrated into the Iowa minute here? Because Real
Mitchell back up quarterback, which I just said, from Iowa
State transferring to Temple from Iowa State. There you go
with your Temple. No Temples are good, feeling good? Real
Mitchell he cannot beat out Rock Purty brock Purtty has
that job locked down. I like brock Purty, by the way,
(01:15:53):
I've said it before, I really do like brock Purty
as a quarterback. Good good, good. I don't know, I
don't know why. I mean, he's probably Bucky. Where do
you stand on brock Purty. He has a chance, But
I'd say he's a little behind those other guys at
the top, justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence. So you're saying he's
no Cole McDonald, okay, good, I just wanted to be clear. No,
(01:16:14):
Cole McDonald's the man. Cole McDonald had a farm. Yeah. Yeah.
Northern Iowa has also picked up a transfer tight end,
Kyle Forton Berry from Western Kentucky. And guys, the Iowa
volleyball program must pay the piper for some past indiscretions
committed under former coach Bond Shamanski. Thirty three wins, vacated,
(01:16:37):
one year of probation and a five thousand dollar fine.
That punishment stems from an incident in which Shamanski paid
a prospective player, and so you wipe out all those
games because he paid one player and apparently she couldn't
pay her rent. Or there's something like you know, she
she just had money for expenses and yeah he paid
her one one time or two payments totally two thousand
(01:16:59):
dollars and he got fired. He was a good coach too.
How does that even get out? Did the did the
player report him? Or was there some was who's the
I can't who's that risk rat? We got this week? Sam?
I'm looking for that there? Okay, alright, we press on
(01:17:20):
here um for my final story. Here listen, this isn't
sports related, but it's time to put those damn coastal
leads on blast and great. Thanks to the grizzled, seasoned
veteran of Fox Sports Radio super producer Gavin Kinsel for
this excellent sound. Now. The television station k c r
A in northern California did a story recently on a
(01:17:40):
grass fire in Sacramento. Little did the two gentlemen featured
on this audio realize their mikes were hot and live.
This is just a part of their exchange. I'll actually
retweet the original and just to note it does contain
some serious language. But somehow, some way, the discussion meandered
back to the state of Iowa. Let's take a listen.
(01:18:01):
I mean at least this is news. You know what
I did earlier? I drove two hours to not sweep
chickens being unloaded out of a truck. Yeah, they're saving
a thousand chickens from some farm in Iowa. I'm like,
who the cares? Right, We're in the middle of are
sing and you're sending me out to do a chicken story.
(01:18:26):
All right, let me tell you something. Guy talking Crapple
on Iowa. Man, we're in the middle of the COVID crisis, right,
We're gonna need a vaccine to return to full, fully
normal life. Listen, guess what you need and masks to
create vaccines? Chicken eggs. Yes, a lot of people don't
know vaccines are created inside of chicken eggs. Yes they are.
(01:18:50):
And as a native of the number one egg producing
state in this Union, also a little known fact. I
wish to educate this man on his ignorant comments. No
chicken means no hot wings, no eggs for your omelet,
and no eggs for vaccines. Yes, America and the world
for that matter, Iowa and other egg producing states will
pull us through the coronavirus crisis. That for data. And
(01:19:14):
one last thing here, guys, actually have time. This is crazy.
The Big Ten is canceled it's football media days to
ensure the health and safety of all parties involved. It
had been scheduled for July and twenty three of this year.
I'm bummed to see the Big Ten media Days go
by the wayside. And that's your a minute. We have
a minute to spare that first of all. But that
was I'm pleasantly surprised by how you were able to
(01:19:38):
pull that together. You promised that it was one of
your best and you delivered on the Iowa man, And
here I have a I have a question for the
chicken farmers. Are they from Sacramento or from the Midwest. Well,
this guy's I don't know how he transported from or
he like, uh, I went through a portal from Iowa
to sacrament I don't know how that worked. Because guy
(01:19:58):
was doing a story on Iowa chicken. He because he
sound I remember, I knew I was in the Midwest
and the Midwest was different than the West Coast. When
I went out as a kid to a family reunion
in Monmouth, Illinois, it was fourth of July and my
cousins were taking turns laying on a picnic table. They
were holding a lighter up to each other and farting
to see if they could make the flame grow. I
(01:20:20):
swear to God and that is a true story. So
if Illinois is anything like Iowa, Chicken farmers Gas, who
the hell knows. Well, there's a story that popped up
this week in the world of sports. It is NFL related.
In fact, it's also NBA related, and I would say
it would in capsule, one of the biggest moments in
(01:20:41):
recent sports history. Unfortunately, I think it's all a lie.
We'll get to that here coming up in just a
couple of moments. That guy over there is Bucky Brooks.
I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can
check out the show on the I Heart Radio app
and on all of our Fox Sports Radio affiliates wherever
you are taking part in the program. I'm on a
Memorial Day weekend. We appreciate a few minutes of your
(01:21:04):
time as we come to you alive from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studios, or fifteen minutes could save you
fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Visit Geico dot
com for a free raid quote. Ladies and gentlemen, Bucky
effing Brooks, what's happening? What's going on? Jona? What's happening
in just Bucky? You know, it's a Memorial Day weekend.
(01:21:24):
We've got in a golf match right now. You're gonna
watch this the match or whatever the hell they're calling it.
Tiger and Phil uh and Tom Brady and Peyton Manning
playing tomorrow obviously not those combinations. But are you gonna
be Are you in on that or you just kind of?
I mean I might, I might check it out like
I'm a rollover, like doing naptime and kind of glance
at so during so it'll get your attention during a
(01:21:47):
nap take naptime and I kind of I kind of
peep at it as I'm I'm kind of doing my
breathing exercise of the help help me go down. I
would actually I was thinking about this as far as
star power goes. This is the biggest sporting event that
includes star power that we've seen in a couple of months,
because like the the UFC events, look as if you
(01:22:11):
follow him a man who you follow him A people
knew who just engage. He was all right, but it
wasn't until he did what he did to Tony Ferguson,
beat him up, beat him up. I mean that that's
one of those I don't know if you recover from
type type beatings. But until you saw that, I was like, well,
you didn't really know much about the guy on a
mainstream level NASCAR, whether it's Kevin Harvick or Denny Hamlin
(01:22:34):
winning these races. On a national level, you're not really
familiar with with these guys as you are Tom Brady,
Peyton Manning, Tiger and Phil. So this feels like it's
the most star studded event that we've had in a
couple of months in sports. I I don't think it's
even close any sports are going to draw us in
(01:22:56):
and there's nothing else on, So yeah, I'm gonna tune in,
and I want to see what Brady and Baden Manning
and how they look, what they golf like. Well, I
want to see what Tiger looks like, because there's some
always the intrigue on Tiger Woods and is he coming
back and will you be able to eventually win more
majors and eventually surpassed Jack Nicholas. So yeah, I'll tune in.
(01:23:16):
I understand what it is, it's an exhibition, but watch yeah,
and so the star power is going to be there
for the match coming up on Sunday. Speaking of star power, UM,
there was a story that came out that's back in
two thousand and eleven during the NBA lockout that Lebron
James actually thought about making a jump to the NFL,
(01:23:40):
like like started training for football. Um and and the
possibility of Lebron James Uh potentially being a member of
the Dallas Cowboys. One of the stories out there is
that Dallas actually there was a contract on the table
from the Dallas Cowboys. So Lebron James Uh in the NFL,
Bucky Brooks, how would that have looked? Great? It had
(01:24:00):
been awesome, it had been terrific. He would have been
arguably the best player at the tight end position if
he had made the transition. And I know that you
may take umbrage with that, but I'm not alone in
that sentiment because here, I did a little research, Jonah,
because I figured you would hit me with this, right,
So I figured you hit me with the Lebron jameson.
So I'm gonna say this, and I just kind of
want you to understand where we're going with this. So
(01:24:23):
Urban Meyer has won three national championships. Urban Meyer was
a why was a coach at Notre Dame or Lebron
was in high school? Urban Meyer has told me and
my partner Daniel Jeremiah that Lebron James was not only
a high end prospect, but he offered him a scholarship
at first sight when he saw him at St. Mary St.
Vincent I talked to Mail Tucker, who was now the
(01:24:44):
head coach at Michigan State. Mail Tucker was at Alabama
and Georgia respectively the last few years. He's seen a
lot of five star players come through there. He also
said that he saw Lebron James in high school and
he was a quote unquote giant amongst boys. And so
when I go in, I think about the basketball players
that have had success that tied in in the National
(01:25:04):
Football League. Two guys come to mind, Tony Gonzalez and
Antonio Gates. Tony Gonzalez in college and look, I played
with Tony and Tony is one of the best players
that I've ever played with. Tony Gonzalez every six points
in basketball at cal four rebounds. He's a Hall of
Fame tied in. Antonio Gates average twenty points, seven rebounds,
(01:25:27):
handful of assist At Kent State, he scored a hundred
and sixteen touchdowns. So here's what I'm gonna say. Lebron
James was a more explosive athlete than both of those guys.
Lebron James was a better and more skilled basketball player
than both of those guys. Why wouldn't I think that
Lebron James would be able to have some kind of
(01:25:48):
success to that degree based on the success that they had.
Considered that Lebron James also was a two time All
State football player. Where I mean, we've seen basketball players
who haven't had that kind of football background. I Jimmy
Graham come into the National Football League and have success
(01:26:08):
and dominate for a small point, and Jimmy Graham is
labeled soft by those who were in the game. Lebron
James is a more accomplished player. Lebron James would have
had a ton of success if he played football. Now,
I will I just I will say this. I agree
with you that skill wise, athletic ability frame all of that.
Lebron James, it feels like that would work at the
(01:26:30):
NFL level. That just with his athleticism and his football
background that that would work. So I agree with you,
and also just quit before we move on. Antonio Gates
Hall of Famer, right, Oh for sure, I just couldn't.
I just couldn't call him that. Yeah, he's going in
a hundred and sixty most tight end, most touchdowns by tighten,
for sure, he's in. Yeah, so Antonio Gates, and even
towards the trail end of his career, I mean he
(01:26:50):
still could get open. He could still could score touchdowns.
I mean you could still get in the end zone
to score touchdown. So I agree with you. I do
think Lebron James could have success at the NFL level.
Here's my biggest issue with this whole thing. I think
the story is a complete load of crap. I don't
think it happened. I don't as the idea, the idea
(01:27:11):
that Lebron James was offered a contract in the NFL
and we're just now hearing about it nine years later.
I think this is bs. I. I don't believe it
for a second. I think Lebron James saw all the
love that Michael Jordan was getting for the Last Dance documentary,
and Lebron James wanted to come out and say, well,
I was offered a contract by the NFL and I
(01:27:33):
was training to be an NFL player. I don't buy
it for a second. I don't buy it for a second.
But you also have to go back. This was after
Lebron James lost in the finals with with the Miami
Heat against the Dallas Mavericks. That was the season afterwards.
So you mean to tell me that the season after
they lost in the finals, A finals that a lot
(01:27:55):
of people feel like he melted down in he then
focused on football that offseason. I don't buy it. It
doesn't add up to me. I think it's garbage. He
was locked out, he couldn't work. He was locked out,
you want to say, I mean, he couldn't go to work,
So what else am I going to do? We saw
Michael Jordan going to play baseball like he got bored,
Like like high end athletes like they want to stay busy.
(01:28:18):
So this would have given him an opportunity to be busy.
And because he does have that in his background, maybe
just maybe maybe football was his first love, Like maybe
maybe that was his first love, and maybe he took
it as an opportunity, like maybe I could reconnect with
my first, Yeah, you all have great memories with our
first ay Bucky. When I was a kid, I wanted
(01:28:39):
to be a ghostbuster. Guess what, You grow up, You
grow up and things change, and no, it no longer
was an interest in mine because I realized I'd have
to be a scientist and I wasn't smart enough to
do it. I just did. Here's what I think happened.
I think Lebron James, when the lockout was happening, went
out and ran a couple of patent go lines and
(01:28:59):
then nine years later said I was training for football.
Now you weren't. You were running in a straight catching passes.
Do you remember? Do you remember the flag football showdown
between he and Kevin Durant when they had that little
deal or whatever. I don't remember what year that was,
but like, look, he has he has a football jones.
He maybe one discrets to it's and that would have
been the perfect opportunity at to be able to do that,
(01:29:21):
Like I mean, just perfect chance. I I don't, I
don't buy it for a second. How would how would
that be kept secret in today's media? How would we
have never heard about that over a nine year stretch
that Lebron James was trying to make a jump to
the NFL when Bo Jackson was doing that, which, by
the way, for people that didn't get to watch Bo Jackson,
you want to talk about the great tragedies of a
(01:29:43):
career cut short via injury. Bo Jackson, for was was
the craziest athlete I've ever seen. His ability to go
from football to baseball and be that good at both sports.
I mean, at one point, Marcus Allen, who's a Hall
of Famer, was his wocking back. That's how that's how
good bo Jackson was as an NFL player, as as
(01:30:05):
big as that was Bo Jackson playing two sports, Dion
Sanders playing two sports, Michael Jordan's trying to play two sports. No,
we wouldn't have heard about Lebron James trying out for
the NFL and being offered a contract over a nine
year stretch. I just don't buy it. Well, you know,
Twitter was just in his infancy, like he was just
just like, I mean, it might have been a year
(01:30:27):
or so in like we weren't fully consuming the platform.
So maybe that's why we hadn't heard about it. And
maybe Lebron has been so focused of late and just
chasing the basketball immortals that maybe he just like it
just popped out, like at his podcast. It just it
just happens to about for the first time in like
a decade. I mean sometimes that happens sometimes, you know. Listen, listen.
(01:30:49):
Twitter wasn't around when people were reporting that they sell
the Lockneest Monster. But but guess what, that stuff still
got out there. Lebron James getting an NFL contract, I
think that would have been a big deal. So I
don't believe that the story is true, but I do
I do think that Lebron James, had he pursued it,
the potential of him in the NFL is fascinating to
(01:31:11):
think about because what what is Tony gonzalaz is what
six five? Ye a six four six five? He in
turning gave six four or six five. You're talking about
a guy his six eight and a half. I mean,
how do you stop that in the red zone? I mean,
I don't I don't know how you stopped that, because
it's crazy you can move around and using the post
upability and being able to throw alley oops and all that.
(01:31:32):
Because I don't know who you match up on him
and everyone. Uh, we've had this discussion people, Oh he
doesn't blog, he's not physical, he's solved or whatever. Yeah,
but that's great, But you don't use tight ends in
that capacity anymore. Like most tight ends are just jumble
wide receivers that day put on the back side of
three by one and that those guys go one on
one against overmatch safeties or line athletic linebackers. And so
(01:31:55):
if you think about the creativity with Lebron James and
just using the Jimmy Graham game, like in the red zone,
no one can stop and like you can throw to
Ali hoops and audit other stuff all day long. It well,
it's like a Randy Moss. I don't remember Randy Moss
ever blocking anybody, But guess what, you just sent him
down the field and the guy made plays and and
(01:32:15):
he's a Hall of Famer because of it. So I
I do think, I do think there's there's something too
if Lebron James were an NFL player you put him
in the red zone because here's here's the other part
of it. It's not just that he's six nine. But
I think you even talked about it in in the
what is this vertical? In your article? Holy God, man
like like that's you literally just throw the ball halfway
(01:32:37):
up the uprights and just say go get it, just
go get it, just go get it, just go and
you like the thing because we're looking at the older
version of Lebron, like that version at twenty three man
you're talking about in his athletic prime, when he can
run like a gazella up and down the court and
and all of those other things. Man, someone would have
had a lot of fun, uh, not only teaching him
(01:33:00):
skills to play the tight end position, because remember Jason
Witten was down there. Jason Witten will go down as
arguably like if not the best tightn't one of the
best tight ends. And his ability to teach Lebron James
why option and some of those things in middlefield would
have been too. Well, if you talk to Martella spend At,
Jason Witten is not exactly the best mentor they didn't
seem to to get along when Martella Spenett was in
(01:33:21):
that was in Dallas. But maybe maybe but maybe the
star power with it, maybe maybe that would have entice
Jason Witten to made open up a little bit for
for a couple of another guy out there that transition
from track. Remember Willie Galt, Willie gal Yeah, Willie Galt
transition and had a successful NFL career. He was a
track and field guy. You know he's still running track.
(01:33:42):
He you know, he's still he's still run crazy andrshell Walker.
I don't get it. Yeah, I see like uh, I
see him sometimes at U c l A like training
and working out or whatever. And my guys, God bless them,
like kid running one fifties and two hundreds and all
that other stuff. And he is, he's blowing past everybody.
That's just what you did. Imagine like lining up like
(01:34:03):
your fifty plus and you're sixty years old in the
lane beside your Willie Galt, right, will looking spry and
fresh and all kinds of it is just unbelievable to watch. Yeah,
he's Willie Galt's unbelievable. And I want to say, if
I'm not mistaken, yeah, he's he'll be sixty in September. Man,
(01:34:25):
he doesn't look like when you see him. I mean,
he looks like Willy Gond in tech Mall. I mean like, well,
he was the only he was the only offensive weapon
the Bears had in tech Bo Bowl. It was either
it was Willie Gal it was a Walter Payton or
Cat bows yeah, Cat tight end. Yeah. Dennis Gentry I
think was another guy you could use an in tech
(01:34:46):
bo bowl back in the day. Tem it's the best.
It's like people like Madden's fantastic. That's awesome. Give me
some simplicity. Yes, you have four plays, You're not good.
You have to be to have four plays and great
and you can guess one of them. Like just remember
remember when you wanted to deek your buddy out, if
your buddy was playing defense, you would just keep You
(01:35:07):
wouldn't snap the ball so over and over, just here
and then you'd go. And if you add the Raiders
and you had Bo Jackson, you weren't going to be stopped.
He was a cheat code because he could be the
blizz Yeah. Um the other guy that I thought about,
Um and I know this has been discussed, and then
he sort of shot it down. Um you saying bold?
(01:35:29):
You saying bold? Any shot of him being a wide
receiver in the NFL if he could the only the
only the only thing about that, like so so typically
what happens with like track and field athletes that are
strictly tracking and field athletes without a football background, the
contact kind of throws them off a little bit, right,
Like so so like you're super fast on the track
or whatever, but like when you have people hitting you
(01:35:50):
or whatever, like everybody's not everybody's not built for it.
So he certainly could get on the outside and kind
of do his thing. And he is as fast as everybody,
and he's long, and he saw that. I just would
need to see him absorb some shots because um gosh,
I want to say Justin Gatlin. I think Justin Gatlin
(01:36:11):
worked out for the Tennessee Titans while he was away,
and my buddy saw him run because he was working
in the front office there, and he was like, but
I've never seen anybody like when he takes off running,
you couldn't hear anything. It was okay, like like that's
that's how life. He was on his feet and so, um,
(01:36:33):
there's been a number of track guys who have considered it,
but typically the contact part of it kind of runs
them out of it. Yeah, it's uh, and and going
over the middle just wouldn't be an option. I wouldn't
recommend going over the middle for any of the track
guys either. Um. Yeah, it's it's crazy. So yeah, there
there's the possibility. It's a fascinating thing to think about, though.
(01:36:53):

This is Fox Sports Radio. You can check out the
show on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up in
about a little over ten minutes from now here on
Fox Sports Radio, we will have another edition of in
the Gutter with David gascon Uh. Some thing, some inappropriate
behavior by many people during a quarantine will be spot
We'll put a spotlight on here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:37:36):
So that coming up ten minutes from now on FSR.
Right now, he is our Fox Sports Radio NFL insider.
You hear him on Sirius x M NFL Radio as well,
and he is Adam Kaplan kind enough to join us
here on Fox Sports Radio. Adam, it's a Memorial Day weekend.
Hope all is good on your answer. Guy's good to
talk to you. Yeah, I am home as I usually
(01:37:58):
am on Moral Day weekend, though we will will probably
go away next weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to. But yeah,
look the weather is good back out east and uh,
look it could be much worse. Yeah. Absolutely, Um, we
were talking about this and I just wanted to get
your thoughts on it. Just the prospect the story that
came out, uh this past week of Lebron James playing
in the NFL that apparently there was a contract on
(01:38:20):
the table from Jerry Jones back in two thousand eleven. Um,
Now I don't I don't believe the story because why
this would have just come out now and it just
coincides with the Last Dance and and Michael Jordan and
all that stuff. But in your mind, and we were
discussing the potential of him at the NFL level and
sort of this cross sports success that would be possible
(01:38:41):
for Lebron James, do you think it would have worked? No,
because of the physicality of of playing football. You know,
he's not the one being tackling someone. He you talked
about he's going to be the the offensive player. No,
and you're right, it would have gotten out. There's no
doubt about it. It It would have gotten out. I mean,
it's one thing if you discussed it internally, then it's
another thing if you actually pursue it. Look, we've seen
(01:39:04):
two sport athletes both Jackson did it. It's just so
it's next to impossible to do if you're an offensive
player in football because of the physicality and what you
have to do, because you're gonna get you know, you're
gonna get beaten up. And then to be able to
do it Dion Sanders did. It was really remarkable to
play football. Sometimes within twenty four hours, he would he
(01:39:26):
would play baseball and football, football, then baseball. It's just
almost hard to understand. But Bo Jackson did it. Unfortunate,
as you know, he broke his hip and his football career.
His baseball career was never quite right. Certainly in his
limited time playing baseball, he did a nice job, but
physically he just wasn't gonna hold up. It's definitely interesting
because Lebron, you know, your your typical tight end is
(01:39:49):
usually six four or six five, sometimes six six plus
like ground. But it certainly would have been fun You know, Adam,
your hometown to the Philadelphia UGU has had a proposal
that has really been the buzz on twitter verse, the
fourth and fifteen UH proposal replacing the onside kick. What
do you know about it? What do you think about it?
(01:40:10):
They actually have to bucky, but the one that has
a very good chance of passing, because you know, it's
really funny, because I know that they they put this
up in March and it got table to now what
it is. It's very simply this. You you're looking at
the on side kicks of such a low percentage of
(01:40:32):
of of being successful because of all the changes that
have come on with it, and for the right reasons,
for safety reasons. The percentage, which was in the thirties
when I started covering the league in UH in two thousand,
is now around ten to twelve percent of you being
successful on it. So why not come up with another
way to do it? That? It's not easy? Look fourth
(01:40:55):
and fifteen. You know it's not easy. Okay, that's certainly
not easy, but the heck of a lot easier than
it would be to get an onside kick, which almost
is next to impossible right now. And then the other
one which they have which I thought, I think is
really good because they got robbed two years ago. They
want to be able to challenge any any scoring play
(01:41:17):
that results in a foul. Uh They also also turnovers
because what happened. So what happened was two years ago
they were playing the Cowboys. The game wind up going
in overtime, but they had a seventy five year touchdown
catched by then rookie tight end Dallas God heard he
got called for a push off in real time. You know,
refs have to call it they see, but the replace
(01:41:39):
clothed sure certainly was not a push off. So the
Eagles haven't forgotten about that. So they they wanted they
want a bad call, a flag that was incorrectly called
to go to replay. And I don't know, I would
say this has got not a great chance to pass
just because we we you don't one judgment plays being challenged.
(01:42:02):
We we saw what happen with the awful pass interference
play that the Saints brought up and it clearly did
not work. Uh So I don't see this one passing.
I would give a small chance, but the offside, the
the substitute the onside kick to a fourth and fifteen.
It's got the leads attention. I think this has got
a real shot on I hope it does, because you
(01:42:22):
outside kickdown is almost a waste of time. NFL insider
Adam Kaplan joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas
knocks Bucky Brooks here on FSR. So, just going back
to that, because I too, I love the on site kick.
I think it takes a dad play and makes it exciting,
similar to what they did with the extra point a
couple of years ago. That's now you must see play
in football based on the number of extra points that
(01:42:44):
are now missed and the impact it has on the game.
So the other one that you were just mentioning, so Philadelphia,
they want to be able to change if there's a
flag throne on a touchdown or or they want to
be able to challenge that to dispute whether or not
it was actually a penalty, if it will overturn a
non touchdown call back to a touchdown correct, and also
(01:43:06):
extra point or you know, if you go for a
two point play an extra two point conversion. They want
to be able to do that and my understanding, I
know that they were and by the way, to plays
that happened that game at Dallas two years ago, the
open and kickoff, they they recovered a fumble, but the
(01:43:26):
problem was the replay could not show conclusively when the
Eagles got it because the camera angle couldn't show them
actually haven't possessing the football, but the player came up
with it. Rose's Andy Clary got it, but on replay
they couldn't see where the ball was. It was I've
never seen that happen before, and since then it hasn't
happened where you cannot get a camera angle that shows
(01:43:46):
where who has the football. It's really bizarre. But that
was the same game where the they're they're tight end
got called for pushing off, but the replay cloth showed
it clearly was not a push off. Just an awful
call that brought back sevent of your touchdown catch. You
know you missed the word bazaar. I think bizarre is
what the New York Jets are doing with Jamal Adams.
(01:44:08):
What is going on with this situation between the Pro
Bowl Safety and the organization. Yes, so, Bucky, here's what happened.
They said they were going to address it. Okay, when
we're talking about Jamal Adams, who was a former first
round pick. He's got two years left on his contract.
He's now in the fourth year and he's got next season.
He's got the fifth year option. He does not want
(01:44:29):
to play on because he's clearly outplayed his contract. Let's
let's you know, let's call it like it is. He's
the best strong safety in football. They love the player. Now,
this front office inherited a player, but they know how
greed he is. They have no one to replace him.
You can't replace the guy like that now. Joe Douglas,
Bucky the general manager of the Jets, have said he'll
always take a call. Well, what happened was last fault
(01:44:52):
the trade deadline, the cow The Cowboys got a call.
Cowboys called the Jets. They pursued Jamal Adams and the
Jets engage them. They were never close to an agreement,
according to that. From talking to Jets about this, they
said they were never close to a deal. But they
listen and Joe Douglas said he always take uh, you know,
he will always take a team's call, except for on
(01:45:13):
Sam Donald. Uh, you know, just to move with the
s forward. From talking to Jets, they don't want to
move the player. But Jamal wants his deal this here,
and I don't know that it's going to happen. All
Douglas said as he would address the contract situation and
for the draft, he did not say that he would
get it get it done. He also also said that
he wants Jamal to be a Jet for life, and
I'll take him at his word. But again he did say,
(01:45:35):
if a team's gonna call, they're gonna listen. So stay tuned.
Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider. Last one for
me here on fs are um. What is happening with
the DeVonta Freeman situation. I'm hearing now he's considering sitting
out the entire season. It looked like Seattle was in play,
but they have now moved on to Carlos Hide. What
(01:45:55):
happened with the former Falcon? All right? So I reported
earlier this week that Freeman turned out a deal to
sign with the Seahawks. I was told then it was
about three million. NFL Network reported, what's three million plus
a million dollars in upside? So he turned out a
potential four million dollar deal to be Chris Carson's backup
(01:46:16):
Carsons are starting runing back in Seattle. I was told
that he turned it down immediately. Um, there was they
went as far as they could. So what they do
is they gave Carlos Side the same deal and had
accepted it. Uh. Look U. The NFL network report out
there says that because Freeman has done so well off
the field, he saved all the money that he's willing
to sit out the season. Let me let me just
(01:46:38):
tell you the chances of that happening or slim and none. Okay,
and Slim just went out the door running back to Look,
it happened once in my career in twenty one years.
That was Levian Bell, by the way. He never he
went up not getting a deal he thought he should
have gotten from the Jets was a good deal, but
it wasn't a great deal that he was expecting. Uh.
And Davante is older and he's had an injury history
the last three years. He's been hurt. Good player, by
(01:47:00):
the way, but no he Um, he's willing to wait.
Now what he can do and what I think he's
doing based on what I've heard, I'm just gonna play
it safe and see what type of injuries they are
at the running back position. In late July early August,
and if we if there is a preseason and also
training camp, and I'll look at it there. Right now,
he's by far the best free to running back. It's
(01:47:20):
just a bunch of journeymen behind him. He doesn't have
a lot of leverage because he's asking for so much money.
So right now he's on the outside looking in. Adam Kaplan,
Fox Sports Radio's NFL Insider Serious x M NFL Radio
as well. You can get him on Twitter at Kaplan NFL.
Adam as always, we appreciate it. Hope you have a
good Memorial Day weekend, and we'll do it again next week.
(01:47:41):
You two guys, Thank you. Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, coming up next, we're
gonna go into the gutter. Literally here on fs are
We're going into the gutter. That's next. But for all
the latest from around the world of sports. The gas
Band David Gascon, I should strink calling you like Pete
Mitchell now on Lieutenant or Captain Pete Mitchell. Why because
(01:48:03):
because there are times like during your show, like where
the show just nos dimes, like particularly during that one
segment a minute and then you just do a great recovery.
I'm solely it's it's it's great. Yeah, I'll land the
plane on the Hudson. Dave. I'm solly right now. Buck,
you are not Goose, so please keep that in mind.
(01:48:24):
I'm not referring to you as Goose at all. Um.
You have your neck in your head attached properly so well.
By the way, yeah, yeah, if anybody hasn't seen the movie,
by the way, um, they're not so top Gun. They
scratched the plans for the remakers. That's still coming out. No,
it's coming out. I don't think it's coming out during
the summertime. I can't wait to not watch them. Why
(01:48:45):
because the first one stunk, the second one's going to
be worst. Count Why because Top Gun is not a
good movie. Top Guns it's not I know, I don't
think so. Do you have any favorite eighties movies? Like,
I mean, yeah, like what what would be considered like
an eighties movie? But what do we turn Speeler's Day Off? Yeah,
(01:49:07):
like Ferris Spueler's Day Off. That's a good one. Fun buy.
Actually liking to Toppy was fun for me. I don't
like that. It's just too meat head it's too it's
too cool, guy, it's too Plus. I have a buddy
who's a drunk and every time we go to the
bar and there's that that that karaoke machine, he always
plays the top Gun song and it pisces me off.
(01:49:27):
You got that love and feeling? No, not that song. Yeah,
this is Ferres Spueller's day Off. I'm a little behind,
but this is a way better song. Man. I mean,
I don't know like that. But by the way, anybody
see the go ahead and google search the guy who
plays the the principal on Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Yeah,
(01:49:51):
haven't seen him for a while. Yeah, it's been been
a little while since he's popped up around these parts. It. Yeah,
not good. I'll just say it's not good and I'll
leave it at that. Find you a Val Kilmer and
how he's aged and now no, no, no, no, no,
this is a whole another level of very disturbing stuff,
very disturbing. Yeah, Top Gun overrated to to meat head
(01:50:12):
for me. Wow, young Guns is better. Just gonna say,
Young Guns. Emilia Estevez was actually good enough. Chevez, what
let me do payote in the desert? That's right, they
do payote with keeper Sutherland to guns so bad. It's
(01:50:38):
a bad flicks up. Oh boy, I'll make you famous.
Did you look up the principle? Yeah? I told you,
I told you. Yeah. I don't have anything to say.
But however, I don't want to get blamed on this
when the I p A dress shows up that I
did a Google and discovered hey show research. Wow, yeah,
little prep. You should probably hit the incognito. But from
(01:51:00):
the future, I was taught that by I was just
playing Catino, Just playing Katino, guys. Some NFL news today,
Charles Robinson reported that New York Jets aren't taking any
calls or they aren't shopping Jamal Adams, despite the fact
that he wants a long term deal. But if he
(01:51:22):
has an interest going somewhere else outside of New York,
it would be with the Dallas Cowboys. Adams does say
that the team is dragging their feet and contract negotiations. Meanwhile,
college Football Big twelve and to get back to it,
the league has start with the conference itself and prove
voluntary workouts for football related activities On June the fifteen,
does he age that bad, No, it's not really that.
(01:51:44):
It's just you have some val Kilmer info. Let's go
live to are. I've got Val Kilmer info all the
way from a silo in Iowa, Iowa, Sam for the Sam.
I'm a huge Val Kilmer fan. And he's a cool guy.
He's a very nice man. He's an artist now and
you've heard that. Yeah, he's a good guy. He he
had a battle with throat cancer and he got over it.
(01:52:04):
And um, he looks a little different because he had
I think some adjustments made surgically to his neck. But
I followed Val Kilmer in social media. I love some
of his Some of my favorite movies are Val Kilmer
Real Genius, Real Genius is a great movie. The best
Val Kilmer movie is what Batman Forever? Shut Up? Dave Man.
I want to say, tombstone tomb sounds pretty damp good.
(01:52:26):
He also Heat, Yeah, he bingo, that's the one. Heat.
Heat is one of the great movies, one of the
great cast Heat. Val Kilmer in the movie Heat was fantastic.
Shut up. He was real genius, real genius though, and
he was pretty damn funny. And Willow, I can't gotta
admit I don't remember Willow. LaVar Arrington is obsessed with Willow.
(01:52:50):
He was talking about Willow, which is obscure movie Willow.
He was talking about it for like five minutes last week.
LaVar Arrington, Yes, he loves the movie Willow. We talked
about it on the air for like five minutes. That's
Bucky's guy from Speak to Yourself. We love the bar
here Speak for Yourself my favorite debate show on on
(01:53:11):
on television. No, I love it. It's great show. All right, Um,
Jonas Knocks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studio where it's easy to
say center more on car insurance with Geico. Go to
geicoa comer call eight under seven Auto. The only hard
part figuring out which way is easier. Up next, we
are going into the gutter literally here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:53:34):
He's Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knocks. Is his Fox Sports Radio.
You can check out the show on the I Heart
Radio app coming up fifteen minutes from now here on
fs are. There's a hard truth to learn for a
certain group of NFL fans out there. We will dive
into that fifteen minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:53:57):
Right now, Bucky Brooks, it's time to go in to
the gutter with our commander in chief, David Gascon. Get
your mind out of the gunners. The best stories it's
in the gutter with David Gagan. All right, here we
go the gasman himself, David Gascon uh to steer us
(01:54:19):
into the ditch or the gutter, uh and hopefully not
take us too far. David, Is it good news or
bad news that Ben Mallard just walked in on me
as I was trying to prepare for this segment? Oh,
you got a weekend visit from Ben Mallin? Okay, Well,
to be frank, Ben came in here to pick up
his mail. He's got like a lot of fan mail
and fan boys. Does you know he's got Ben, He's
(01:54:42):
got like boxes of content from listeners and just send
him some wild stuff. Like you know, you get letters
from Mike North writer Andy Ferman don't write you letters.
I get letters from Andy Ferman, but I mean like
they're handwritten, right checked up. I haven't opened up in
Andy Ferman letter in in probably two years. Like what's
the point? So so you can send me an article
on the Cincinnati Reds bullpen that I don't care about.
(01:55:04):
They just don't care about this crap. Seriously, it's pretty wild.
Now is Ben wearing a mask? Ben is wearing a mask?
It's uh, it's Dodger Blue approved, all right, so and
uh and his wife actually got him a nice little gift.
I don't know what they are. Iowa might know, but
like the holders for your cell phones and you can
you can place it onto something so it stands up. Um,
(01:55:28):
it's why would I know what that is? I don't know.
You're a tech guy. Yeah, but it says in the back.
It says in the back of it The Fifth Hour
with Ben mallor. Oh, that's awesome. It's a nice little
logo on one of the one of the very popular
podcast here at Fox Sports Radio, not the most popular.
And by the way, the latest example of Dave Gaston
trying to take Eddie Garcia's job. Not not the case
(01:55:50):
at all. No, not at about that. I mean to
brag a little bit. The numbers are great over the
last three months. And and now, when Ben Miller walked
in studio, did he see his golf partner Bucky Brooks,
and did they gave him a what's up? I gave
him what's up? Probably because Bucky. You were carrying him
(01:56:10):
the most most of that afternoon, correct, when you guys
were to do a lot of heavy lifted Me and
my carment I do a lot of him. That's a
lot of heavy lifting. I love Ben, but I think
that Bucky was doing all the heavy lifting there on that. No, No,
Mike Harmon was bailing out. Mike Harmon was yea, and
it's beautiful. He's got Lake Perry, He's got calves that
are bigger my back. Just ask him. I'll tell you alright,
(01:56:34):
So real quick, guys, while we get into it. I
got a few things that are going on, obviously with
the coronavirus and the self quarantines. Things are up and
things are down. Watching television is uh. Online dating is
kinda up and down. But have you guys heard about this? Um?
How do I say this? I'll just say it. Spiked
(01:56:56):
porn is up. Have you guys ever heard of spike porn? No? No,
no, no no. Spike porn is when you have an ex
custom order a scolding as a way to spur the exes.
So what happens is is that a porn star, one
of them actually by the name of Ali Eve Knox
(01:57:17):
is starting to see orders that come into her humiliation requests,
basically where a woman who was scorned wants this porn
star to reach out to one of her ex is
kind of lure them in a little bit and then
start trashing the guy from being a horrible boyfriend. Are
we that board? Yes, yes, we are knocks. You're an idiot, like,
(01:57:45):
are we that board? You're hiring adult film stars to
get even with your ex? Move on, man, come on,
how many dating apps are there? Ask lead to lapp.
He's on like seven of them at least got them
all color ordinated to great. I had a buddy who
had an Excel spreadsheet to keep tracking a true story,
(01:58:07):
true story because he was onto so many dating apps
that he wanted to keep track of the conversations that
he was having, and so he had an Excel spreadsheet
on his computer. I'm not even making that story up.
That's great, so good that man was me. No, I'm
kicking out. I'm sorry. I'm not that technically advanced. But listen,
Lee's in the same situation. He's out there. Man. Yeah,
(01:58:30):
I was gonna ask a Lee what he was getting
for lunch, and he decided to down the bottle of listerine.
So yeah, Lisa, Lisa at least got a got a
rough day coming off last night from what I'm hearing
last night or this morning. He went over to UH
to Roy's subs or whatever it's called, across the Steve
Subs whatever, Roy Steve's same difference, and they didn't know
(01:58:54):
how to make an Italian sub and he was so
hungover that he didn't know how to order it. They
asked him what was in it. He's like, I don't know, bread,
a little mail with that bread, tomatoes, guys. NASCAR got
underway last week. Chase Elliott was involved in a crash
with Kyle Bush and Bush who rear ended him and
(01:59:17):
knocked Elliott out of the race. Elliott was not done
with twenty laughs to go as he collided with the wall,
got out of his car and decided to go near
the track, and as Bush came all the way around
the track, took off his helmet and UH kept up
with foreign relations and gave Bush the bird live on
television on f S one and the Fox Sports Digital
(01:59:39):
app do. And by the way, did you know that
that was like one of the big uh so Fox
Sports Radio led all sports networks and ratings, and that
was one of their biggest television audiences and and I
forget what the number was, but they did huge numbers
because there's nothing else to watch. So people are people like, all, yeah,
I'll watch NASCAR, I'll gamble on it. Why not. It's awesome.
(02:00:03):
I think it's awesome. We had the U with the
UH data. White had his interview a couple of weeks
ago with the reporter that he was just airing out,
but this one was unfiltered uh courtesy of Chase Elliott. Um.
I don't know if you guys are excited about this
because we get a couple of NFL players. You got
Brady with his docuseries coming out with ESPN. Did you
(02:00:24):
know Eli Manning has made his way to Twitter? I
saw that. What a terrible idea. Eli. Do you know
what they've been saying about you on Twitter for the
past seven years? Get the hell away? Yeah? What are
you doing? Man? It's like it's like, uh, taking a
drunk by a liquor store. I come on, there's just
so there's good ideas and bad ideas. Eli Manning on
Twitter is a terrible idea. I'll just tell you that
(02:00:44):
right now. Yeah, I know it's not good man. Take
it from experience. Uli, get off Twitter. I don't know
your Twitter handles pretty damn good at night. It's not
people are people are are lucky. I don't have depression issues.
Some o the things they said over my God of Knox,
not everybody does. Alright, good stuff. Dave Jonas knocks Bucky
(02:01:06):
Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio Studios. More next here on FSR. This is
time right here. So I don't think there's gonna be
a group of people that's gonna like this segment very much,
because what you think and what the reality is are
two completely different things. We will get into that here
(02:01:27):
coming up in just a couple of moments. Back over,
there's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox is Fox Sports Radio.
You can check out the show on the I Heart
Radio app and on all of our Fox Sports Radio
affiliates wherever you are taking part in the program. We
always appreciate a few minutes of your time on a
Memorial Day weekend, and we come to you live from
(02:01:48):
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios for fifteen minutes could
save you fifteen per cent or more on car insurance.
Visit geico dot com for a free rate quote Bucky
Brooks final hour of the program, and then we release you.
We release you from the cage and your bark on
a Memorial Day weekend. That's right, it's gonna be spectacular. Yeah,
(02:02:10):
it's hecular weekend. It's gonna be wonderful. Now, if you
were to have a barbecue and you were allowed to
be around a big group of people, what would be
the barbecle barbecue essentials that you would need uh to
make the more Memorial Day weekend that much better for you.
Barbecue essentials need to see that there are a couple
of different directions that you can go. If you go
(02:02:32):
with the traditional barbecue where you have the burgers and
hot dogs and your baked beans and you fries and
all that, that's one way. But being from the South
and you know John's, you've been in the South, like,
I feel like you kind of have to up it
at Annie. So I'm thinking about like a real barbecue.
So I'm thinking about ribs um, maybe a little what
we would call in North Carolina real barbecue. So it's
(02:02:54):
like a little a little sliced and dice chopped uh
pork with some vinegar throwing a little coal slow on
top of that. Um you big means. And you know
you have to have some desserts, right, like a little cobbler. Yeah,
maybe little apple pie. Yeah, homemade ice cream also would work.
And here's the other thing, and this is a must.
(02:03:14):
You can't just serve barbecue on a paper plate. If
you're if you've ever been to the South, what they
do is it's barbecue and like one of those little
paper like like bowl dishes with with the red checkered
paper and you get a piece of white bread with yes,
like that. That's that's a Southern staple. Little mac and
(02:03:36):
cheese as well too. It just makes it feel more
like the South. The mac and cheese also big memorialous.
Like you have a little little potato salad. Oh yeah,
little potato salad to go. Make sure it is. Make
sure it's the yellow potato salad, not the white potato salad.
So it's the potato. Oh it's made with the mustard.
Come on, you gotta make you potato salad with the mustard.
You have a little relish in it. Some of that
(02:03:58):
they're controversial. You you got pus some egg in there too, now.
And while we're making eggs, you gotta have some deviled
eggs too, Jonna said, you're a deviled egg fan. Let
me tell you something. I could eat a whole tray
of deviled eggs and they're fantastic. They're so good. Look
at they're like, there's so many deviled eggs are good, man.
And if you pour a little I think it's the
paprika on the top as well too. Yeah, you gotta
(02:04:19):
go with the deviled eggs, all right. So then, uh,
potato salad, egg salad, chicken salad or macaroni salad? Where
does that go for your top four? Well, the other
three you can throw away. I just want potato salad.
Those other three that you mentioned I have no use for.
You know, it's crazy. When I was younger, I always
preferred macaroni salad, And now that I've gotten older, potato
(02:04:40):
salad is so much better. You strike me as one
that like a little I don't even know what they
call it, but like the little carrot and raisin type
thing that people put together, like the little car carried
and raisin, is that it is not even a castle roll?
Is that a salad like whatever whatever that is. I
just see it at some dinner parties and I wanted like, yeah,
that's not it's not really my men. But I would
(02:05:02):
think because of your affinity for veggies or whatever, I
think that would kind of feel in fall in your wheelhouse.
I mean, how dare you put that reckless label on me?
Like I I'm not I'm not capable of just a
plain old yellow potato salad on a holiday weekend. I
would think that you would. I think that you would
up to Annie a little bit now have something like that.
(02:05:22):
You're probably right, let's be honest, You're probably right, but
but I I would you know if because I like
spicy foods, maybe you know a couple of hallepenos in that. Man,
you want to put hallepeners on everything. I'm like everything
you had hallepeeners on the non were eating Indian food
and you've got hallepenos, Like why do we have hallepenios
on that? Like we don't have to, Like you can
(02:05:43):
kind of have like that that hos hot sauce swag,
like you probably have your own little jar of hallepenos
that you kind of keeping your like yellow backpacks it's
kind of sprinkling. It's it's like the losers who take
ketchup into a restaurant. You ever seen those people? What
a loser? Why don't you step out? Why do you
color outside the lines for once in your life? And
(02:06:04):
when you go to a restaurant that doesn't have ketchup.
There's a place in Santa Monica. It's called Father's Office,
um and and they do gourmet burgers. And one of
the things when you go in there is they don't
have ketchup. It's there's it's nowhere in the building. And
so you eat their their burger the way that it is,
and it's fantastic. And you'll see these losers who are
sneaking in ketchup like they're sneaking in a flask on
(02:06:26):
a Sunday. Okay, well I'm I'm I'm going to make
you mad because I'm just letting you know. When we
go to Mastro's own gas go on, I'm bringing my
own bottle of ketchup for what, oh for for whatever
to stake or whatever? Did you have? Man? Yes, yes, yes,
just just to see him roll his eyes when I
pull it out. When I pull it out in my
back pocket, just so I can squirt it right on
(02:06:49):
the corner of the plate, right on the corner of
the plate, and like, cask on, how do you feel
about me and my and my my little filet and
my ketchup and and by the way, it can't be
like it can't be hinds or hunts or any of
those because because we're gonna do this, we've got to
do it the right way, because I'll join you. But
it has to be the store brand, and it's got
(02:07:10):
to be the plastic squeeze bottle, not even a del Monte.
Del Monty doesn't even get into the discussion. We're going
store brand, Albertson's, Ralph's, Vaughan's, Piggly Wiggly, you name it,
whatever it is, we're going store brand, and we're squeezing
it as opposed to banging our our palms on the
side of the bottle. Yeah, that sez the squirt. Let's
(02:07:33):
go live to our I have a question when it
comes to condiments insider, Iowa Sam for the latest thing.
When you go into a grocery store and you see ketchup,
but then you also see ketchup spelled cats up, does
it make you want to buy the cats up more
than ketchup because it has that special spelling. It pisces
me off. Cats Up though it's interesting, we're just come
from it's people trying to be sophistic and my remember
(02:07:56):
my dad went through this phase or he wouldn't call
it home depot. He would call it home depot, and
it pissed me off and for and like it just
bothered me. I don't know what was the point, just
just to add a little flare to it that wasn't necessary.
Just yeah, it's just it's target. Like, there's nothing wrong,
it's target. No, no fun, guy over there, you want
(02:08:16):
to have some fun, Bucky Brooks, you want to you
want to want to piss some people off? All right,
all right, So here's here's what I'll say. You and
I talked about this earlier on Fox Sports Radio, the
Dak Prescott situation based on the stories that came out
this past week of the five year, hundred seventy five
million dollar contract that he reportedly turned down and the
forty five million dollars a year that he wanted in
(02:08:38):
the final year of his contract, and so there's been
this whole back and forth and so one of the
things that I threw out was, if you went back
to the two thousand sixteen quarterback draft class, where is
Dak Prescott in that draft class? Because he was taken
in the fourth round. But now that we've got a
sample size of his career, where's Dak Prescott at? So
I have in front of me the two thousand sixteen
(02:09:02):
quarterback draft class. All right, So these are all the
quarterbacks that we're taken in the in the two thousand
sixteen draft class. And I just want to run it
by you as to who you think um is a
better quarterback than Dak Prescott if you had to say,
and you've got to give a definity of answer. And
I'll start from the bottom and go all the way up.
So if you're ready for this, I can fire off
some names for you. All right, let's all right, Brandon
(02:09:25):
Dowdy better than Dak Prescott? Come on, man, alright? Jeff Driscoll, Oh,
we're on to the next. Brandon Allen, who Brandon Allen moving?
Jake Rudoc Yeah, we're moving, We're moving. Nate Sudfeld, m
(02:09:47):
come on now, you guys not even starting. Come on?
Can I get some starters? Okay, I'm just just saying, Okay,
Kevin Hogan, nice backup. Cardale Jones, poor Cardial Now, uh
should have come out after those three games? Should have
come out? Uh. Connor Cook. Yeah, that's the one that
(02:10:10):
they wanted and they were so lucky he didn't get him.
Cody Kessler, Poor Cody. Yeah, I just got a raw deal.
He's been in him. Jacoby Brissett, He's better than Jacoby said.
Jacoby said, is a high end QB two. Christian Hackenburgh
is he? Is he? By the way, is he done
(02:10:31):
blaming James Franklin Airpenn State is done with that? I
think he's done with that. How about Paxton Lynch and
Paston Lynch went in the first round? Yeah? Yeah, um,
and then then we get to is Dak So Dak
Prescott's better than all those guys. Now, keep in mind
(02:10:52):
Paxton Lynch Dallas wanted in the draft. Jerry Jones was
quoted as saying afterwards that he regretted not jumping up
and and uh willing to risk more picks and more
to try and get Paxton Lynch. He regretted it on
record after the first round. So they wanted Paxton Lynch.
Dak Prescott's a better quarterback. You mentioned it. They wanted
(02:11:12):
Connor Cook Reggie Mackenzie, and the Raiders jumped them and
they drafted Connor Cook. So now we get down to
better career, better quarterbacks so far in their career, Dak
Prescott or Carson Wentz. This is tough one. This is
a tough one because Carson has shown flashes where he's
(02:11:33):
played at the m v P level, but then he
had the injury and he didn't take his team to
the super Bowl, and he's been injury prone, like he's
finished two of the last three seasons on I R
or not unable to play. Super talented, he's more talented
than Dak Prescott, but availability is a huge trade. Um.
(02:11:54):
I almost like it's so weird with all of these others,
like that's all that's really a push. Yeah, I mean
it's really a push because the talent leans towards Carson Wentz.
The performance, the availability and those things kind of leaning
towards deck Um. Six on one hand, half a dozen
on the yell. And their numbers are almost identically winning
all that other stuff. I mean, they're they're they're right there,
(02:12:17):
same number of career touchdown passes a Dacks got one
more interception than than Carson Wentz, and he's got more
passing yards in his career and to your point, starts
every game. He's there. Dependability and availability is is maybe
the greatest ability. And Dak Prescott's the guy. And then
we get back to the number one pick of the draft,
which would be Jared Goff, and Dak's got better numbers
(02:12:39):
than Jared Goff if you just look at it. So
now I would take like, if if I had to
rank those three, I would rank Um Wentz Prescott golf,
but that Wentz Prescott Um ranking would be really really snug,
to be really tight. And then I think there's a
little separation between those two and Jerry Goff and and
you talked about this on Twitter. They came out with
(02:13:01):
this week on next Gen Stats came out with Dak
Prescott's numbers and he ranks in the top five in
several of the most according to next Gen Stats. Dak
Prescott finished in the top five last season and several
of the most difficult passing situations according to Next Gen Stats,
uh deep balls twenty plus yards in the air. Dak
(02:13:24):
Prescott was first, UH throws outside the numbers, Dak Prescott
was second. And then target separation greater than three yards
Dak Prescott was fourth. So those are all numbers that
are telling you. Look, I know that he's a cowboy
and he's going to get extra criticism, and I know
people go, well, he's not winning big games. And then
when he was winning big games, it was just the
(02:13:45):
supporting cast and all this stuff. But the point being,
he's at least on par with these other quarterbacks that
are making thirty three million dollars a year, Yet people
are still haggling over the thirty one he's gonna get
a as a franchise tag. I don't understand it. The
thing that frustrates I'm just trying to step outside of
my own opinion. I think the thing that may frustrate people,
(02:14:07):
we're talking about Dak Prescott earning more money than Russell Wilson.
But what everyone has to understand, I mean, that's that's
part of inflation, uh, living expenses, the rising cost of
like you know that all of those things increase. And
so when Russell Wilson signed his deal that thirty or five,
we knew someone was going to come behind him and
(02:14:29):
make more money. And Patrick Mahomes is going to make
more money than all those guys. And in the next
year or so, within the next year, we're gonna see
Pat Mahomes signed his deal, We're gonna see Deshaun Watson
signed his new deal, and we're going to see um
Dak Prescott get his And I can promise you that
uh Deshaun Watson's deal will probably surpass Dak Prescotts and
(02:14:50):
Patrick Mahomes were probably surpassed both of those guys. And
so it's just a matter of time before we see it.
And we have to grow comfortable with knowing that how
our player plays and how he gets paid. Jonas Knocks
Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios. You can listen to the show
on the I Heart Radio app. Alright, coming up next,
(02:15:12):
we will talk with somebody who has been in and
around a current NFL storyline for over two decades and
we'll get to the bottom of it. And that's next
year on Fox Sports Radio. He is Bucky Brooks, I'm
Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can check
out the show on the I Heart Radio app. Coming
up a little over ten minutes from now here on
fs ARE, we will have the scraps things in the
(02:15:34):
world of sports. We have not had a chance to
get to that coming up a little over ten minutes
from now here on Fox Sports Radio right now. He
is kind enough to join us here on a Memorial
Day weekend. He is Clarence Hill, longtime Cowboys beat writer
for the fort Worst Star Telegram. He's just connected as
anybody in the business when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys,
(02:15:56):
and he's with us here on fs ARE. Clarence, Jonas
and Bucky thinks. So much for popping on it. Man.
How you guys doing Man, I appreciate you have to
be on this Saturday, COVID Saturday. Yeah, it's been a
COVID Saturday for like nine weeks, it feels like. Clarence,
So yeah, we're hanging out. We're talking a little bit
of football now before we dive into the Cowboys conversation. Um,
we were just sort of throwing around some must haves
(02:16:20):
at a Memorial Day weekend barbecue. Is there anything that
you must have at a Memorial Day weekend barbecue? Clarence,
Oh uh, up from Texas and we have to have brisket. Texas,
you have to have brisket, and I would say brisket
and ribs. Seeing there it is Sea Bucky, not far
from where you're at. I know he understands it. He
(02:16:41):
knows that best barbecue comes from North Carolina doing not Texas. No, no, not.
Now you want to fight, you know, y'all got that
s thing about it. I need to school you guy.
The door cut on you guys in Kansas City. When
it's about the saucy. You got the mustard sauce. It
ain't about to meet me. Absolutely, you are so good
(02:17:03):
if you don't need to put no salt. Okay, when
you're cooking. It's like this state when you when you
see in the world and cooking world, you don't need
suf You're ruining the meat with the salt. How about that? Clarence,
Clarence coming out strong? All right, Clarence, We Clarence, we
can't get a straight answer on this. And when we've
(02:17:23):
been talking about this for a while, I think Bucky
and I both agree that Dak Prescott deserves to get paid.
He deserves to get paid. The people that are saying, well,
he doesn't deserve this number, and that number that's out there,
I think it's ridiculous. I think you can argue he's
the best quarterback to come out of the sixteen draft class,
and the guys at the top, Golf and wentz It
both already been paid. Every time we hear a report
(02:17:44):
that comes out seemingly every week, what is the real
story behind the negotiations there in Dallas between DAK and
the Cowboys. Okay, let's let's let's just do two things.
Let's not give life to the haters. Okay, because the
only people, the only people who say don't there to
get paid, or people who are heading or don't like
that press scout, and those people don't work for the Cowboys.
(02:18:05):
They're not necessarily they don't work for the Cowboys. The
cowboys want to pay that, and I think that needs
to be out there. There's not a there's not a
situation where it's the course of the cowboys question that
you know that that's from people outside who don't know
what's going on. Okay, the Cowboys want to pay that
they've offered. They've offered that, you know, on the last deal,
(02:18:27):
boy than thirty four million dollars and a hundred and
ten million dollars guaranteed, which were ti uh Jared Golf
as the highest guaranteed in to hears your football. So
those are not issues. He's gonna get paid, non't matter what.
He's gonna get paid. You know, he's gonna get thirty
one point four this year on the freend tire sack.
They have the room to pay it. And you know,
(02:18:48):
if they do get a deal done, that's most likely
he will have the highest paid people, highest paid player
in NFL history, because it's just not far to guild
with Russell Wilson at this point. The thing that's holding
this contract up, the thing that's been holding this contract up,
it's not the money, it's the year. This contract coin.
That first guy wants four years. The Cowboys want five
or longer to help with the captain as they you know,
(02:19:10):
manipulate the captain and that sort of thing and kind
of spread out that lotus of money to lower some
of the cap figures. But that wants four years. And
look at all the deals that have been done from
canny Hill to Wilson to Rogers uh even the golf
and with extensive were four years of new money. That's
what the deals are that's the going rate for UH.
(02:19:30):
For deal there four years, Okay, that has been underpaid
for the last four years. There's no way at this point,
you know, ask him to take a deal. There's longer
than anybody else in the game. UH, and its position there,
and so he has to be stuck to a deal
longer than than what they are. You know, at the
end of the day, I see the Cowboys given him
a four year deal, but he wants a four year deal.
(02:19:51):
They wanted five year deal. That's where they are. That
is the issue, uh, in these negotiations, not about whether
the Cowboys want to pay. We're going to pay him now.
We fully expect him to get paid. Uh. You talk
about that and the haters with Dak Prescott. The other
story that doesn't seem to die when it comes to
the Cowboys, the Jamal Adams come into Dallas in some way,
(02:20:13):
shape or form. Can you just talk about it from
the Cowboys angle? Is there a possibility that Jamal Adams
will ever end up in a Cowboys uniform while he's
still on contract with the Jets. Well, the facts are
they did try to trade from at the Jamaine. They did,
and so that's where the nigger. He is from Dallas,
and he would like to come home if at all possible.
But the main thing he wants to do is get paid.
(02:20:34):
He wants to get paid as highest paid safety in
the game. Uh. So, the fact that the Jets and
Jamal Adams are at some type of impasse and negotiations
that is refueled these so called rumors that they're not
going to get something done in Dallas is an option
at some point, Dallas maybe an option. Dallas is not
reached out to the Jets this week. This was you know,
something that came out of you know, the Jets camp
(02:20:56):
and people just started putting the tea leads together. Was
the Cowboys trying to trade form before that they're going
to trade for him. Again, what's true is that the
Cowboys are not jumping Jamal Adams in front of Dak Prescott. Okay,
you trade for Jamal Adams, you give Jamal Adams a
new deal, that's what he wants, and they're not jumping,
uh Jamal Adams in front of Dak Prescott. Uh What's
(02:21:20):
also true, and what people don't understand is that you know,
they're the new day and age in the NFL with
the new cb A, you can't just hold out anymore.
Okay there they put things in place for you to
hold out, and so Jamal Adams may be mad uh
at the negotiations, but there's no way he's not playing
for jesticship. He's not gonna do a Zeke Elliott thing
because it's too punitive. Uh So, if something happens with
(02:21:43):
Jamal Adams and the Cowboys, it will happen certainly after
that gets done or before the tradeline trade deadline during
the season. There's nothing imminent there, and I don't think
there's think emminent with anyone as far as Jamal Adams
and the traders concerned, because the Jets are not don't
want to trade and they want to sign them on term,
and you know they haven't reached that point yet. He's
(02:22:05):
Clarence Hill, longtime Cowboys writer for the Fort Worst Star Telegram,
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas knocks Bucky
Brooks here on fs ARE. I know it's kind of
a it's obviously a very strange off season thus far,
but what can you tell are a couple of the
differences so far between Mike McCarthy and Jason Garrett. Huh.
(02:22:26):
First of all, we haven't seen Mike McCarthy with a
couple of times, and I think that we'll we'll get
to see them more, certainly when Trinity Camp comes. Uh.
But I always go on his track record and Mike
McCarthy being you know, detO oriented. Uh but but but
willing to be more flexible, you know. And I think
that that's uh, what's going to be a difference with
(02:22:48):
this team. Uh. Then it wasn't past years when they
weren't flexible, when their coaches that weren't flexible, and for
as personnel in the use of personnel. Uh. And you know,
you look at the defense finish want to be not
just at fourth favor but it's gonna be multiple and
and and the thing that they did in the draft
and his philosophy of player over systems. You know, they
(02:23:08):
talked about pos player over system. You know, the Cowboys
made some mistakes in the draft the past couple of
years because they don't try to fit a player to
the system rather than just getting the best player. Started
to talk on Charleton certainly over TV watch. Certainly comes
to mind that Hugh was mistake they made in the
draft they're choosing Tacle Charlton because he's the system and
(02:23:28):
not necessarily was the best player. And and Mike McCarthy
wants the best players, and you're given the best players.
He'll find a way to make it work. You know, Clare,
I can't let you go because this conversation was about
Dak Prescott at the beginning, and then you talk about
player over system. Um, if Dak Prescott plays out on
this franchise tag with the players that they brought in
(02:23:49):
with Ceedee Lamb joining a Mariy Cooper and Michael Gallup
and Ezekiel Elliott, what kind of season could we see
from Dak Prescott And could they grow to regret not
getting them sewn up if they let him play on
this last year to deal with the town that he
has around him, and there I really not get him
swing up last year. I mean you you know, you
come in the last off season and what the goal was,
(02:24:12):
what the focus was, and that was before you know,
Carson Wentz and Russell Wilson, all of them got their
new deals. I think that the Richard's quarterback was twenty
seven millions, you know, eight million, and and they met
these people jump in front of them and get those deals.
And now it's growing to thirty five and and certainly,
uh if that bills on what he did last year.
(02:24:33):
He's only gotten better every year, and there's no reason
why he shouldn't get better with a better coaching staff,
with a better offense than the number he's gonna put up.
You know, people were, you know, uh, going out of
their minds over forty million. You know, him asking for
four their million dollars. Well, that's gonna be the going rate,
you know, if he could, if he builds on what
he did last year and has a season you know
(02:24:53):
he should have with with Ceedee Lamb and Mark Cooper
and Michael Gallup and Zeke Elliott, you know they're going
to be exposed. Is gonna be explosive. Office back is
gonna put up great numbers, And yeah, forty million dollars
will be the going rate. Clarence, So let me ask
you this before I let you go. So if it
ends up being near the forty million dollar mark at
the lowest price per year, where could Dallas have gotten
(02:25:16):
this deal done at it had they not waited as
long as they did. Oh my god, I think they
could have got it done. It it's certainly thirty before
last seed. That's crazy, man. And and because but just
look at the contracts and what was done and where
the money was and how it jumped, and if they
would have gotten ahead of the game, they certainly could
(02:25:37):
have got it done. He is Clarence Hill. It covers
the Dallas Cowboys for the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Always
a fantastic listening, A great guest here on fs ARE.
Get him on Twitter at Clarence Hill Jr. Clarence is
always We appreciate it. Man. Hope you're safe and have
a great weekend and we'll talk to you again soon.
All right, thank you guys. Jonas Knocks Bucky Brooks here
(02:25:57):
on Fox Sports Radio from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
All right, coming up next, we have got the scraps
things in the world of sports we have not had
a chance to get to. They are yours next, but
for all the latest from around the world of sports.
Tom Broka, who's on the updates today, Yeah, it's up Gas.
Just just here, happy to be involved, happy to be around.
(02:26:19):
He's happy to be around. Just you know, keycard still works.
That's always a good thing. Yeah, you know, hanging out
with Iowa Sam and leave a lap And of course
you and Bucky Brooks. Have you ever walk into a
job and you knew that you were fired because you
want to use the key card and it didn't work.
I had that happen one time. I don't want to
(02:26:42):
say we're because the details of why I don't I
don't even want to get. But I'll just say I
went in to well, it was at a job and
I had a disagreement with the boss. This is why.
I was in high school at the time, and um,
I had a disagreement with the boss, and I walked
I walked in to swipe my card and it just
kept saying air. And then the boss came around the
(02:27:04):
corner and said, oh, yeah, we've decided that your services
are no longer needed and U and it was like
you couldn't You made me drive all the way in
for that, Like you could have told me, but they
wanted me to drive in so they could, you know,
stick it to me a little more. Yeah, it happened. Sorry, man,
that's sorry. I'm over it day. Yeah, I don't think
about it doesn't sound like it, but I mean whatever,
(02:27:27):
that's my scar my business. Who was the first girl
that broke your heart? Um, Jesus, who would in a bit?
I know it's a Latina. I know it's a Latina.
Well listen, I don't know he's gonna love hate relationship
with Latina. That's not true. It is all love. It
is there. There is no hate there. Trust me, there
(02:27:48):
is no hate it is. It is all love. I
listen to you know, people have, you know, certain things
that they everybody has. Everybody has a sweet tooth, you know.
I just uh, if that last name ends in a Z,
(02:28:08):
they're not ending with an S or God forbid. Yeah,
for some reason, I just uh, but that those were
those were days way in the past. I'm happily engaged
to a beautiful Mexican woman from Jalisco in Mexico. And yeah,
just very very happy, Dave. You should be technically married
(02:28:30):
right now too, right now. That's that's coming up in July.
It just depends. Oh look at my back, because you
said last week you should have been on your bachelor party.
Then yeah, no, it just it depends on whether or
not the warden's going to let us out into the
wreck yard. It depends. I'm excited for your wedding man.
I'm looking forward to it. Are you looking forward to it?
(02:28:53):
You know, it depends some days, yes, some days. On
that note, Adam Silver active with his general managers asking
for a little bit of feedback in terms of how
they're gonna get the season restarted. So we're gonna have
a play in tournament or regular season games prior to
the playoffs. We'll see what happens with that. Also, the
(02:29:13):
NBA has begun talks about resuming the twenty nine and
twenty season at Walt Disney's ESPN wide World of Sports
Complex in Orlando, beginning in late July. Big twelve approved
volunteer workouts for football related activities. On June fifteen, guys,
back to you, thanks. Dave Jonas knocks Buckey Brooks here
on Fox Sports Radio from the getic Fox Sports Radio Studios,
(02:29:35):
coming up in twelve minutes from now here on FS are,
We've got a little bit of a surprise for Bucky Brooks.
We are going to dive into your youth, all right,
a reminder of your youth, Bucky Brooks coming up twelve
minutes from now. It's a surprise. Uh and and many
people listening actually this when you hear what we have
got for you in twelve minutes from now. It's gonna
take you back to a simpler time, uh, and some
(02:29:56):
of the great moments from your youth. So that'll be
again coming up twelve minutes from now from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studios, where it's easy to say fifteen
percent or more on car insurance with Geico. Go to
Geico Comer call eight nine four seven Auto. The only
hard part figuring out which way is easier. Right now,
it's time for this. How could you not get to
these stories? Are there scraps? And for that we turn
(02:30:21):
it over to the commander in chief, David Gascon to
find out what the hell we've missed. Just full disclosure.
You like to kinda have everyone take a peek behind
the curtains at times during the show. I have to
do this for our national audience because, uh, you know,
we communicate most of the time during the day us
you me, you know, Lee, Yeah, Iowa, not Bucky because
(02:30:43):
he's too cool to respond your tweets on tops on television. Um,
but you know, earlier in the week, Iowa Sam was
really excited. He was so excited about something that happened
the world of sports. He decided to text us in
a mass text at three o'clock in the morning, so
I am compelled to go with this story to lead
things off. A South Korean football team soccer team FC Soul,
(02:31:04):
has been handed down a fine eighty one thousand three
dollars after being accused of placing sex dolls in the
sands to add the atmosphere during a closed match recent days.
I don't know what I was Sam was doing at
that time, but obviously late night getting out relevant information
to all the people that matter. Hey, Dave, what night
(02:31:25):
was that? If if you could look back on the
text history when I was Sam sent that over? What
night was in all off the check? I want to
say it was all right, So very very key detail there,
because that Tuesday just happened to be the last time
he was bending the elbow. It was Wednesday night, which
(02:31:45):
was actually twenty four hours after my last bending of
the elbow. Stone cold sober reporting right there. I don't
know about that. It went from Tuesday into Wednesday, they did,
but not that late. Okay, let me ask you a question,
how do you how do you mistakenly order um adult dolls?
Sex dolls if you will to a baseball game. How
(02:32:08):
does that happen? But that sounds like that sounds like
a joke you would play on a buddy. Let's go
live to our sex doll expert. I was Sam for
the way. I just have no idea. These aren't blow
up dolls either. They're actually like look at you, they're silicone,
life size silicon like have you ever seen Lars and
the Real Girl? No, I haven't. Interesting movie and it's
(02:32:32):
about a life size pleasure doll if you want to
call it that, and he like befriends it and becomes
his girlfriend. It's an interesting movie. How do you how
do you befriend this sex doll? Like? He has problems?
Like that's all I can tell you, And I want
to spoil it. It becomes his girlfriend, essentially sex sex girlfriend.
It was this movie, Lars and the Real Girl. Interesting movie. Um,
(02:32:54):
but I think these I don't think these were inflatable.
I think they're actually life size, like full of silicone
or something. Whatever happened to the good old days of
my buddy and me? Remember my buddy and me? You know,
my buddy, my buddy. Wherever he goes, I go my
buddy and me. Fast forward twenty years later and they've
got sex spots and dolls at a baseball game. What's
(02:33:15):
going on? We has everybody lost their damn mind? Has
everybody lost it? Jesus? We have spite porn and we
have sex dolls soccer matches. People are weird? Yeah, I
have too. If you look, guys, if you look at
the picture though, of the stands with these dolls, there's
nothing inappropriate about it. But they found out that it
(02:33:36):
came from like an adult site because it came with
some banners apparently, and it showed the like the brand,
and so they people started googling it and they're like, oh,
this isn't next. These aren't fake fans. Also, they put this,
they put the sponsor banners up, and that's how That's
what I read Jonas. This is further proof that I
would just out of himself because he did not know
(02:33:58):
any of this stuff without betting the elbow and run
this thing deep into the night. Yeah, you such a liar,
Sober And you know, doing my research. What how about
this minor league baseball Pensacola Blue Wahoo's are actually air
being being their stadium d dollars a night for ten guests,
(02:34:21):
and they're granted access to the stadium, which would include
the use of the team's clubhouse, batting cage, and field,
along with a batting practice set up. Now, the good
thing about this is they could stay on the stadium
or in the stadium clubhouse, and also have a club
manager that's in there too, someone that could uh pretty
much manage the dorm areas set up for one night
(02:34:44):
dollars to have a staff member there and some security. Okay,
a night up to ten guests and you get a
minor league stadium. Yeah, tell me that's not the greatest
bachelor party of all times. Yeah, you know, it's funny.
The San Diego Padres their high a affiliate in Lake Elsinore.
They got a wonderful ballpark and most people do a
lot of the skydiving in that area. Lake Elsinore. They
(02:35:07):
do the overnights there too, so people will spend the
night with like families with their kids and stuff. They'll
do that in the outfield on certain nights. But it's
nice because you have the late that's there behind the
home plate and you see, you know, people jumping out
of the planes. Um, it's pretty wild. But yeah, that's
that's a done deal, man. I'm telling you. It's better
than when I went skydiving. Yeah, uh someplace in the
(02:35:32):
desert in California, and uh I had a uh like
it was a breakfast burrito like an hour before we
jumped out of the plane. That was a terrible idea
because first of all, it was the worst breakfast burrito
I ever had in my life. It was like like
somebody cooked a cat and wrapped it up in a
in a tortilla and it was It was terrible. Then
(02:35:52):
I jumped out of a plane. I'm surpri I Sai
didn't tear my knee up landing. But it was awesome.
It was it was fun. But yeah, that that burrito
just didn't last too long. That just didn't cooperate afterwards.
But it was fun. It was fun to do. That's
amazingly on these things about you on this show. Piano
player jumping out of airplane. I wouldn't really call myself
a piano player. I can I can play a part
(02:36:15):
of a Beethoven song. I can't read music. I don't
know what's happening. I just you know, I guess that's fine.
What last story. A coach in Florida got suspended UM
and there's an investigation being launched right now into whether
the team that has won a couple of state titles
actually violate some policies during this pandemic. The kicker on this,
guys is he is a high school football coach of
(02:36:37):
a winning program. That means a winning program that's over
five hundred. Like when you go more than you know
five and five, like six and four, seven and three,
eight and two nine, you know a Jonas you didn't notice,
but like Gascon was out when we talked about how
we going to take our catch up, I'm gonna take
our catch up in our back pockets. And Mastros you
(02:36:59):
just makes you that you get a big old bottle
catch up so we can put it right on the
things walk out. If you say, Bucky, you know, in fact,
here's what we're doing because so gas Guns taken a
shot of Bucky Brooks because we have a bet that
if Bucky's high school team Groan Out of Hills wins
seven or more games, that gas got us to take
us out to Mastro's. Bucky, you know what we're doing.

(02:38:07):
and eligibility. Up next, football related, we are going to
take you back to your youth. Next here on FSR,
He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio.
You can check out the show on the I Heart
Radio app. Uh coming up here and we'll call it
(02:38:27):
a little over ten minutes from now here. On fs ARE,
it is Brian No and George Rice stir As. They
continue your Memorial Day weekend here on Fox Sports Radio
twenty four seven coverage of everything in the world of
sports and beyond here on FSR, SO to make sure
you check out No. One Rice Stir here at ten
minutes from now. All right, So, Bucky Brooks, Um, we
(02:38:48):
were discussing something from your youth and it popped up
in conversation earlier in the show, and I thought, why
don't we just surprise you and we're just gonna play
some sound because it'll play better to radio. But I
do think that a lot of people will recognize the
sound that you are about to hear, and you just
tell me what it reminds you of from youth. So
(02:39:09):
so hit it. Iowa Sam in the back. Wow, Wow, Yeah,
(02:39:30):
you really brought that out. Oh my god, vio let
me tell you something tech bo bowls like but this
so good. Where were we when you were playing tech Moobil?
(02:39:51):
Are we talking about like the dorms at Chapel Hill?
Are you are? I'm still I'm still at the end
of high school, like I think, like junior senior year,
because I transitioned to Man and by the time I
got to college. Oh man, just listening like pump the
music up, but just so dramatic. This is the music
I wanted my entrance. This is this is gonna be
my ring entrance. This is what I like. I like my,
I like my I like my walk up music a little.
(02:40:14):
But this is fun. This is a fun game, so good.
I can't tell you how many. God I wasted a
lot of time playing those games. But you know what, man,
they were actual plays. There wasn't a lot of them.
You had like four different options, that's all you need. Yeah,
but but but there were actual plays and you and
they weren't even every NFL team wasn't even representative. No, yeah, yeah.
(02:40:34):
It's almost like making a tournament. Everyone doesn't make it.
And if I'm not mistaken, I don't even think they
used the actual team name. They just used the city
they played at the city. And they didn't really use
the colors because I remember the Cleveland Browns. They weren't
really orange like a yellow. But but can we be
(02:40:55):
honest back then, I mean, the graphics, what the hell
are we looking at? It doesn't it didn't like the
game play. It's why, man, pound for pound, I don't
know how you do any better sports video game wise.
I know Madden's great, and and congratulation everybody plays Madden.
It's hard to beat Tech Mobile and Mike Tyson's punch Out. Mike, Yeah,
(02:41:18):
Mike Tyson punch Out. That was awesome. I mean like,
it's it's hard to beat those two games. So in
a world in which we're all trying to figure out,
you know, what the hell is happening, sometimes it's better
to keep it simple. And if you want simplicity, if
you want simple NFL video games, man, get a tech
Mobil and just just fade, as Mike Tyson once said,
(02:41:38):
fade into Bolivian tech Mobile because it is one of
the most wonderful experiences as a child that you'll ever have.
I'm telling you, man, it was great. It was It
was fantastic. And you talk about bo Jackson being Chico Chico, Yeah,
they were where the giants are great too, all right,
Bucky Brooks, it's been a fun show for Iowa, sam
Lee and Gascon. No one Rice to xt me. Don't
(02:42:02):
