Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports. Good evening everyone is. We're
coming to you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
It's brought to you my Geico. Fifteen minutes can save
you fifty percent of board Carent Church visit dot com
for a free rate. Quote he's Aaron Torres, I'm anti Spaniard.
(00:23):
Oh you better get in the Twitter tonight, Aaron underscore Torres,
I'm in stinking genius. What are you doing tonight, Torres?
I'm doing great that we're on air. Arnie Spaniard, I've
been getting texts about this show NonStop since about seven
am on Thursday. Every hour on the hour, there's a
new story that you want to jam in. So we
(00:44):
have a lot to get to today. My friend, Well,
that's because you're you're shoving down my throat NBA. You're like,
let's lead with the Lakers. Can they win the championship?
I'm like, Oh, that's that's the lead story today, that
that's what you want to talk because there's nothing, I
mean out in college football. Well, for of all you
you recommended that we lead with college football on Thursday,
when the biggest story was my alma mater, yukon canceling
(01:07):
the season. I knew this was going to happen. You
did your your sources in the Mac. We're texting you
throughout the week. Why didn't you break the story if
you knew it was coming, I would say it for
the insiders, but apparently you're the biggest insider there is.
You knew this was coming to attacking me for being right?
Look at you? Well? I mean, I still think that
the Lakers starting two and four in the bubble, Dame
(01:28):
Lillard versus the Clippers, uh, Twitter beef for Instagram beef,
the Bucks are about to potentially lose again. I think
there's plenty in the NBA that we could start with.
I know you love your Mac football, aren't but uh
but anyway, here's a little bit more than Mac football,
my friend. Right, first thing I want to say, if
you're listening to the show today, you're going to use
Twitter and you're going to be on one side or
(01:49):
the other. You're not just gonna go ahead and make tours.
And I get all the grief today and I don't
know what side Torres is gonna be, but you're going
to speak up now or forever. Hold your piece. I
don't want to hear a day from now, a week
from now, two weeks from now. I told you that's
I told you that you speak up now eron Underscore Tours,
imould stick of genius. What did you mention, Aaron? The
(02:10):
MAC is going to postpone football, not cancel football. Postpone
football means football won't be in the fall. Uh, it
could possibly be in the spring. As of now, they'll
be joining the Ivy, the me Act, the Patriots. We're
leading with me a big Sky, and now we'll go
(02:31):
ahead and bring it up to the Big ten who
they say, Hey, they don't even know if if there's
going to be football. They're gonna take it one day
at a time. Are you sitting here and telling me
you're not concerned? You're gonna be like, you know, Oh,
they're just Corona bros, like like Clay Travis likes to
bring up with what's wrong with you? You don't see
(02:51):
any concern here? Or you just walking around with your
head in the sand. I'm not getting here the number
one Corona bro going no, no, I'm kidding, but you know,
I'm glad that we're leading with the Miak and the
Big Sky and all that stuff. Because really the big
stories in sports right now. But in all seriousness, of course,
I'm worried. Everyone is worried right now. But I don't
(03:15):
think it's time to panic yet for the Power five.
Because Artie, what did you do yesterday at five o'cocus?
You did this with me to baseball? To you? But
well we got another week, We got another week. I
wasn't the Dodgers Giants right now? What are you talking
about baseball? No? But may you kept extending that, You're like, okay,
if we have to, if we want to get it
back by July four, we better. Do you know what
(03:37):
times run out? On college football? I don't want to
hear anymore. Does that even mean so they're not playing?
No one's playing this fall? Is that what you're saying
right now? You don't. You don't said time has you
said time has run out? So I want to know
what you mean by that. If I was making the
decision right now and you said, hey, you need to
make a decision at eleven oh six eastern, and it's
(03:57):
eleven o five right now, and I got one more
minute to make up my mind, what do you think
I'm gonna do? Aaron? Are you. Are you saying, if
you were betting, or if you were in charge, shut
it down right now? I was in charge and they
said you're in charge. You have to make a decision
in one more minute. Are you shutting down all of
college football? Are we gonna have some type of college
(04:20):
football with these conferences not playing this conference playing in
the Sprague Conference only plus one plus two minus three.
I'm gonna say shut it down. I'm gonna say shut
it down. You've You've scared me beyond my wits. Now
all I think about is what's gonna happen to these kids?
What about the ones opting out? We've had to change
around the schedule. We've got conference plus one, conference minus two,
(04:44):
Conference only Big ten. We don't even know what they're
going to do in the next couple of days. Enough
is enough, man? What are we doing here? Enough is enough?
Me ask you a question. So you said we're gonna
change around the schedule, right, yeah, I'm I'm asking you question.
You just said you know what that means. Just I'm
asking you. Did you just say we're going to change
(05:04):
around the schedule? Did you? Did you or did you
not just say that? In what I don't even mean
like that. It's a conference place. Those words come out
of your mouth? Okay, did you did you say did
you say players opting out? Did those words come out
of your mouth? Did you say, uh that there are
people testing positive? I think those words came out of
(05:25):
any Did you not did we not say the same
thing about the NBA two months ago? Did we not
say the same thing about Major Lee? Oh my god,
David Price is opting out. Cancel the baseball season. Oh
my god, Dante hi Tower is opting out, Cancel the
football season. Guess, well, guess what. All the things that
happened in every other sport that is back now are
(05:46):
happening in college football. That's all I'm saying. So to
sit here and say on August five, or August six,
or augustly, I guess the eight that in six weeks
when the SEC is slated to start, that we can't
have games. That feels preposterous. Me. Well, if all the
things that were happening in college football right now happened
six weeks ago with the NBA and Major League Baseball,
and both of them are on my TV right now. Aaron,
(06:07):
do you understand that we're college football is on life support.
We've had to change around the schedules based on the
conference because that's what safest for the player. We changed
around the baseball schedule. We got a sixty game we're
playing at the NBA and a bubble. Have we not
changed every other schedule? And by the way, how has
that worked out for baseball? We have first place? Great.
(06:31):
You have some teams that are gonna play six, seven,
eight games less than other teams out there. Some teams
are getting shut down. You can't even travel Phillies, Cardinals, Marlins.
Are you serious? Are you? And it's worked out great.
And by the way, college football is not able to
go ahead and just have limited travel. They're gonna be
(06:51):
doing it at least half the time. One team is
gonna be on the road to I mean, my goodness, man.
Tackle football a little bit different than playing the game
of baseball. I mean, it's it's like apples and oranges.
And what about this NBA basketball? You don't there's no
physical contact in any there's a bubble, there's no there's
no physical contact in UFC, there's no physical contact in boxing.
(07:16):
How many people in boxing though, and look how many
how many fights have been canceled on that Fight Island
like three or four. Hey, look, I'm not saying it's
not gonna come up. It's not like I disagree with you, Aaron.
But let's be honest. If you had to, if you
had to make the decision, and I'm giving you one
minute to finalize your decision, and you have to take
every person's health into account here, especially kids that are
(07:38):
eighteen to two years old, especially especially kids that have
to worry. What forget about I'm not saying just to die.
How about kids that get it and and as I
have some lingering effects from it, that want to go
on and lead. Forget about being an athlete, just productive lives.
What's your decision right now when it's all said. If
I gave you one minute to say yeah or nay,
(07:59):
in or not, what are you doing? If you're asking me,
do I think games will happen? Yes, I'm asking you
that you get to make the decision. I would move
forward because the players are the healthiest, that they will be.
The safest they will be is on campus with their
teams getting tested there. If they have to quarantine, they
(08:19):
quarantine under the safest possible circumstances. So I guess what
you want, Arnie, is all these kids to go home,
go back home with mom and dad, maybe a grandpa,
grandpa in the house, maybe an knuckle. And you want
these kids not to be tested. Maybe go out, maybe
get the illness and bring it back home to mom
and dad. That's what you want. That's not all these
schools can afford that. That's the first That's what I'm saying.
The schools that are the schools that are the MAC
(08:40):
canceled because they can't afford it. But I'm talking about that.
You're you're asking me about the Big Ten, the SEC,
the a CEC. Well, tell me, am I a hypocrite
for this. Then yesterday, excuse me, Friday yesterday, Okay, our
governor came out and said false sports will move forward
in the state of Vermont, and that includes football. And
I said he made the right move. But we were
twice worthy, were last in new infections. A matter of fact,
(09:04):
we're a half of the next state ahead of us.
So that was the right decision. It's not like I'm
saying shut down all of football, high school and everything
like that, or all of sports. It depends what stay
you're in here in Vermont a little bit different than California, Florida.
What am I saying something you don't understand? So you're
saying that it just depends on what state you're in,
(09:25):
and but you can't do that in college football though.
You can't do that because of the conferences. Let me
get just a couple of tweets. How about this, Hawaii
is the second fewest behind Vermont in Hawaii be allowed
to play football? Who are they going to play if
nobody else is playing? That wasn't the question that I
asked and need to answer your question. Yes, you are
hypocrite to say that we should have sports in Vermont
(09:46):
but not in Louisiana because Vermont and you feel is
safe because you live there. Well, I'm not a doctor. No, no,
it's not because I live here. It's because I look
at the numbers. Now, if Vermont was like the same
numbers as New York City or something, as say, shut damn,
what are we doing? So the So Hawaii has the
second fewest infections, followed by Wyoming, who has the third
(10:07):
fewest infections. They play in the same conference. Are they
allowed to play each other? And not? I would say
if there was um ted teams in the state of Wyoming,
and that was the Wyoming Conference. I'd say, when you
get a bubble in Wyoming, I actually like that idea.
Bryce says, already it kills me, But you're right. No
college football when no team or conference can even define
(10:28):
the potential liabilities that they would face going forward in
a pandemic. You know, we have nobody. You know you
you bring up baseball, basketball, NFL excuse me, uh baseball, basketball, hockey.
But at least they had a direction, one person leading
the way. That's not what's going on in college football.
They each conference is doing their own thing. I gave
(10:49):
you six or seven, not playing one that may do
the spring, um summer plus one plus two, pack twelve
just conference only. Uh No, tre Dame joins another conference.
Everybody's doing their own thing here, Aaron, That's that's what
I see. Yeah, I don't disagree with that, because everyone's
doing what they believe is safest. And it's kind of
exactly what you just said is Vermont should be able
(11:11):
to proceed because they have the fewest tests. Well, that's because,
in your opinion, Vermont is dictating what is best for Vermont. Well,
the Big Ten is dictating. Well, let' let's skip the
Big Ten because I think they're a bunch of idiots
over there. Well we will get to that, yes, but
go ahead. But the SEC is dictating what is best
for their fourteen teams. So I don't understand why you're
perfectly okay with Vermont dictating what's best for Vermont, but
(11:31):
you're not okay with dictating with the SEC dictating what's
best for the SEC in Vermont high school sports. I
got all the teams up here in Vermont. The SEC
has what eleven states in it, so you know I
can't keep it confined. I can't even put it in
the bubble. What you got the Alabama's You've got Tennessee, Kentucky.
I mean, you got eleven states. I can't do something
(11:53):
like that. A matter of fact, Justice says, you honestly
think the SEC will let all that money go away
over the mat or Big Ten. You haven't been paying attention.
There will be football in the South Fall. I would
bet my house on it. There we go. I'll bet
your house on it too. Whatever your name is, my friend,
I forget your name, but now listen, I'll say this.
(12:15):
Every day is different. Obviously, Yesterday felt great because because
we got the SEC schedule. Today didn't feel good. And
if you're asking me, do I feel great? Am I
gonna say with a hundred percent certainty. I've never said
from the beginning that I believe that there will be
a d percent certainty. But I listen. I just think
that the SEC is waiting until September twenty six. They're
(12:37):
waiting to see what happens when players come back to campus,
and I have no problem with them pushing it off
for a few extra weeks to be extra safe. But
I believe we're getting football real quick. Safe says. It's
so refreshing to hear someone actually calling out the Big
ten's crap. We'll get into the Big tenant a little bit.
I got a lot of questions there, and John said,
Arnie's right. What about the coaches and the referees. We
haven't even started thinking about that. I'm so glad people
(12:58):
are tweeting Arnie's right. That gives me so much conviction
that this is gonna work out. Though there's a reason
that everyone once said you're right. I want you to
understand there's a reason that everybody uh shrivels up in
and shakes in anger when you call the Lakers your
Lakers are the Dodgers, your Dodgers, the Warriors, your warriors.
So thank you for that, thank you for siding on
(13:19):
there's no way we get college football, because that makes
me feel great that we will get called. I want
to know should we have it, would you allow it,
should we shut it down? Or might being uh am
I what the Corona bros get to me? Or as
Torres being the calm headed one. Uh Aaron underscore Torres,
I'm a stinking genius one. When we get back, though,
(13:39):
we go out to our buddy from College Football News,
our buddy Pete feu Tech, and Pete's been telling us
all along, slow down, slow down, pump the brakes. He's
been saying this for months, and we've been jumping down
his throat, and I can't wait to see what Pete's
got to say. All that's coming up next right here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, welcome back to the
Fox Sports Radio studios. This segment brought to you by Geico.
(14:02):
We want to go right out to our guests. So
our buddy from College Football News, he's been right from
day one about this. I can't wait to see what
he's got to say. It's Pete, feu tech, Pete. I
just helped me. I don't even know what to ask.
I just feel like I said, what the hell, Pete,
what the hell's going on? I don't I don't even
know if my head is spinning. After the MAC, we're
waiting on the news and the Big Ten, I don't
(14:24):
even know. I'm at the point now I feel like
I should just give up and wave the white flag
and say we're done with it, you know what I mean?
All right, Well, a lot of things here can be
kind of true at once, So like the MAC folding
for the fall is kind of because they weren't gonna
make any money, and I'm they of course, the virus
(14:46):
concerns are an absolute part of this. No one's saying
they're not, but that's part of it. And the fact
that the Big Ten canceled all the games with them
was a killer. I think the the overall, I think
the MAC was supposed to have something like tw anyone
uh nonconference games against Power five teams, and I think
the Notre Dame Western Michigan one was the only one
(15:07):
that was going to be on. And that's it, that's
they're not gonna make any revenue. So if you're the
MAC and you can't make any money, and you have
the virus concerns and you're not a really rich conference,
and look, testing everyone all the time is expensive, and
they just it's it's just too much, I think, for
(15:28):
the MAC to handle. So that's part one to me.
The interesting part here is and having done this as
long as I have, one thing I have learned is
to not underestimate just how smart the athletic directors and
college presidents are when it comes to keeping their system going.
(15:51):
And while on the one hand, I've i've kind of
felt it was this whole process, like why don't they
have a plan? Why haven't they figured this out? And
I would think they've kind of whipped on that. But
at the same time, I was a part of me
that thinks that knowing the he leaves like I do
with the guys I trust, and reading what their tweeting
and writing, there's a large part of me that thinks
(16:14):
that some part of the doom and gloom today had
something to do with squashing the player boycott movement. Now,
because if you think of if you think of the
how this could work if they start floating out there
being like, oh, we don't think this can happen, And
of course everyone's gonna think of the virus concerns. No
(16:34):
one's going to complain about that or say anything about that,
like because that's you can't you just can't. Even the
deniers and you know, the people who think it's there's
no big deal, You really can't argue against that. But
then there's also kind of sneaking out to that the
player movement has something a little bit to do with this,
because they can't really figure out, you know, all the
(16:55):
players want this, the players want that, and we want
to help them, but this is just not the time.
So there's a part of me that thinks that today
is doom and gloom with a tadbit about saying, yeah,
you know what, we're gonna do this and what's gonna happen.
It's happening. Now. We've already seen tweets from Trevor Lawrence,
pet Firearmouth, the NFL Caliber tight End for Penn's Day,
(17:16):
and a whole lot of other players saying that we
want to play. So now that undercuts the boycott movement.
So now you've got prominent players who are doing the
fighting for you, wittingly or unwittingly, and the public who's
now panicking like you know, you and I are, Yeah,
like we want to season so long winded way of saying,
(17:38):
there's a whole lot of play right now, and I
wouldn't just put it past them quite yet, that this
isn't all about just squashing these players before they can
get going. See. And that's really interesting me, Pete, because
I kind of look at it the same way, in
the sense that one of the demands, if you will,
of all these player movements is we don't want to
sign a waiver that says we can't sue you if
(17:59):
something happens to us. And I think that's the one
thing holding up these conferences from moving forward, is the
liability aspect of it. Does that make sense to you, Yeah,
And that's because you can't, I mean, because there's so
much you can't do. I mean, look, this is so much,
this is such a complicated thing. This is so much
bigger than college football. Look, I have you know, I've
(18:21):
now kind of the ten family friends and uh family
members who are sending their kids to college in the
next week or so, and they're all freaked out ball COVID.
They're all mask wearers, they're absolutely a hundred percent on
board with everything safe. And none of them are having
an issue with sending their kids to college. Some of
them are sending them. They're not even they're taking to
(18:43):
take a streaming service. Basically in a dorm room like these,
they're gonna go out to house parties in five seconds.
They're all going to congregate together. There's no way that
they're not just going to hang out and quarantine themselves
in the dorm room. And no one's necessarily looking out
for them. That's regular students, that's college, that's just college people.
(19:04):
College football players are tested. They're gonna be kind of
locked down a little bit more so. I kind of
sort of think that this goes so much bigger than
college football. But today I just kind of think was, Yeah,
let's this doesn't look good. Let's see what happens. And
you're seeing the reaction, and I think over the next
week you'll see one way or another just how chicken
(19:26):
literal they were about this. All right, Bet, I can't
wait to hear how you handle this one, because you've
seen the tweet. Because everybody retweeted it two and CBS
put this out to provident athletic directors from Power five
conference inevitable, inevitable, well not, They wrote, twenty twenty college
(19:47):
football season will not be played now. Um one of
the athletic directors. I don't know what he had to
say on this, but is it one of the presidents?
I think it was Michigan. Um, he like his expert
in infectious his eases or something like that. So, um,
what do you think about when you hear too now
that's out of what sixty or something like that. I
think that I don't mean to paint them evil or
(20:10):
just that it's all sort of nefarious here anything like this.
They do care, obviously, they they really want to make
sure that if nothing else, they don't want the optics
of having players get this and they just don't. It's
just a bad look all the way around if they
don't have this under control, which is next to impossible
(20:30):
because if you're not in a bubble, you can't. It's
going to be issued. There's going to be. But they
they've already kind of built in the fail safes for this.
I mean, every conference so far with their schedules has
built in the idea that like, look at the Big Ten.
They they're playing Michigan, Ohiouse State early. They're keeping the
November twenty state open, not just because because they're saying
(20:52):
that there's probably going to be outbreaks at some point
and now we have our sort of way to do this,
so they're planning for this to happen. It all comes
down to this, there are they going to make any money?
You know, why are they doing Why is there a
college football season? If you're not making money off of it,
then really what's the point. So I kind of think
(21:15):
that they're just sort of throwing that out there right now.
The other part about this that I don't get is
the idea of spring football, which seems really bizarre to me,
because what are you gonna do. You gonna start of
season in February, so you're in February, March, and April,
you have the national championship in May, and then three
months later you're gonna have another college football season. It
seems just a little little bizarre to me. Not for
(21:37):
the FCS and MAC sounds great for the Power of
five ers, and could you see within even the context
of the Power five certain conferences moving forward in certain
conferences not And the reason I ask is because you know,
to me, Arnie just reference to Power five administrators. But
well now, and I get it, Arnie, and I get
it the reports that came out, But I don't think
(22:00):
SEC moves back there their schedule a full month uh
to to take time if they believe that it is
inevitable that they're going to cancel this season. So and
I don't believe they've released their schedule yesterday. If they
believe it's inevitable, so go ahead, Pete. I'm just curious.
Is there the possibility that the SEC says, I don't
care what the Big Tender Pac twelve does, will move
(22:20):
on and if we just have to play with the
Big twelve or whoever wants to play with us, will
do it without question. And that's again why I don't
think the springball thing is gonna happen, Because let's say
the Big ten says, yeah, we're gonna play in the spring,
and the Big twelve and SEC go forward with a
fall schedule. They're not gonna want to come back and
play football again in the spring, and the Big Ten's
(22:41):
not going to go it alone in the spring balls
going our five from team or the Pack twelve as well.
But no question, I like, look, after all this, after anything,
I just said, I wouldn't be the slightest fit shot
if the Pack twelve was like, Nope, we can't do it.
Like looks the state guidelines in California to the areas
outbreak and all the other parts. PAC twelve I've thought
(23:03):
has been hanging by a thread from the start, and
the Big Ten has really been hanging. I like the
other day I went to bed thinking there's a fifty
fifty shots that they come out the next day and
cancel the season. And then they come out and say, yeah,
we got a schedule, you know, so that like, like
you said, there's kind of a leap there. You don't
come up with a schedule like that if you're planning
on stopping this. But I honestly, and I hate diving
(23:26):
on the this side of this, I honestly think it's
a red state versus blue state thing at the end
of the day, Well, it's the Big Ten for the
most part is at the worst kind of a bluish
purple you know, even even Ohio, but it's mostly blue
state ish and Pack twelve. Definitely mostly Blue statesh I
see seeing Big twelve not so much. I think there's
(23:47):
that's going to be a political aspect to this as
we go on. He's beat few tech check about College
Football News, Pete. Always a pleasure. Hopefully you're gonna be
working this year. We'll see what happens. My friend, I oh,
I I I have already prepared. I'm NFL boy. Within us.
Everything we do is they go NFL live in the
first look. If we have to spring football for college
(24:09):
and an NFL season might be kind of fun, but
we'll get in some way. I love it. Pete will
speak to a later on, Buddy, I appreciate it. Take
care Pete talk about at the College Football News discussed
some of the things that Pete had to say. Also,
what about playing spring football? Uh and uh. We'll take
more of your tweets at Aaron Underscore Tours. I've been
(24:29):
stinking genius won first though, let's see what's trending. First
check of the night with Steve the Sager. What's going on?
We still get NBA going a minute left in overtime.
The Dallas Mavericks are leading Milwaukee one thirty three one
twenty eight, so for Lopez has thirty four points and
Janice Antenna Coompo has thirty. It was today that the
finalists for the NBA Season Awards were announced. The voting's
(24:52):
all in, so for m v P, yes, of course,
the finalists are Janice Antenna Cumbo, Lebron James, and James Harden.
For Defensive Player of the Year, the finalists are Janis
Autennant Gumbo, Anthony Davis, and Rudy Gobert. Rookie of the
Year finalists John Morant, Zion Williamson and Miami's Kendrick Nunn.
The guard reportedly left Orlando for personal reasons. He's averaging
(25:13):
fifteen points a game and without in Miami lost to
Phoenix one twelve tonight. The Phoenix Suns are five and
oh in the bubble. They're up to thirty one and
thirty nine on the season. It's not over yet for
their season. And remember, if you just get close to
the eight seed, you can try and steal it with
that play in series and that's next weekend. The play
in series to decide the eight seed is next weekend
(25:36):
in the NBA because the regular season will end on Friday.
Denver and double overtime edge Utah one one thirty two
and the Clippers sat Kawhi Leonard and still beat Portland seventeen.
Damian Lillard missed too late free throws in the NHL
Round Robin wins for Vegas in overtime. They'll they'll get
the top seed in the West and for Philadelphia tonight
they'll get the top seed in the East. Dustin Johnson
(25:59):
leads by one stroke the p g A Championship. Brooks
Kepka is two back. Kevin Harvick won the NASCAR race
at Michigan. In the late baseball, it was incredible at
Dodger Stadium that Johnny Queto, the Giant starter, was mowing
um down. Had a no hitter in the bottom of
the six there was a flyball to left Hunter Pence
didn't see a thing, his arms outstretched looking up into
(26:19):
the sky, not seeing the baseball. It landed far behind
him for what was ruled a triple to break up
the no hitter because he didn't touch it. That's why
they didn't rule it an arrow. That's right, it is
not an air. And then the Dodgers eventually got that
run in without a hit. By the way, but before
the inning was over, there was a three run homer
from Justin Turner and then the starter was pulled. Currently,
(26:40):
Giants five, Dodgers four, top of the eighth inning. In
the n OS, the Dodgers have a ten and four record.
The Rockies are ten and three. The Rockies had a
no hitter in the sixth tonight as well. Now it's
a combined one hitter. Rockies lead five nothing at Seattle
top of the eighth inning and in San Diego bottom
of the eighth Arizona three one over the Padres. Yankee
split a doubleheader at Tampa Bay. Jencrlos Stanton left early
(27:03):
with a tight hamstring. He could go on the injured
list and the game on FS one. Today, Detroit was
a winner at Pittsburgh eleven to five, notable because in
the first inning the Tigers hit four home runs. Four
of the first five batters today hit home runs on
eleven pitches against starter Derrick Collins, who did wind up
staying in for a hundred twelve pitches. By the way,
(27:25):
he pitched five innings and took the loss. And the
news that the Cardinals next series will likely be postponed
starting Monday against the Pirates. According to the athletic, the
Cardinals will not be meeting together for at least three
to five days. That's what the team has told players
work out on your own. Multiple reports tonight saying Pittsburgh's
flight to St. Louis for that series next week has
(27:45):
already been canceled. NBA update, five seconds left in overtime.
Dallas up three on the Milwaukee Bucks, who enter with
a record of fifty five and fourteen on the season.
But Dallas up three. Back to you, who would you
rather be? Derek Cowan giving up? The four home runs
on eleven pitches are all touve a with three errors
in one inning, not the three years you gotta stand
(28:07):
out there? Yeah, no, at least that you can getta
have the ball in your hand if you're starting pitcher
as bad as that was, and some of them were
win dated, and you know he was turning around looking
and his arms were flying out, like how is that
out of here? As well? I love it all right,
Thanks a lot to Sager. Welcome back to the Fox
Sports Radio studios. It's brought to you by Geico. It's
easy to say fifteen percent of Mark Corn instruents with Geico.
(28:29):
Just go to Geico dot com or give him a
call one eight hundred nine four seven auto. The only
hard part figuring out which way is easier, UM tourist.
There is one thing I really don't understand, and I
think I said this to you last week. Remember when
I said, I think that the here in Vermont, University
of Vermont was going to test every student for like
the first month or something to that effect. Remember when
(28:50):
I said that. I don't remember if I said that
one you did. I remember saying that, and we looked
it up. I don't know if it's gonna be every day,
but we said, well, that's a lot of money, and
I'm like, yeah, I started getting think that is a
lot of money for a small school when major schools
can't even do this. And then I found out that
it's because we have funding. You know, we obviously have
the University of Vermont Medical Center. But why does some
(29:13):
of the other big schools have funding where they can
get tested, um every day? You know what I'm saying.
I'm seeing some schools are testing students as they're coming
back on the first day, but that's all. Why don't
all the schools have some type of funding UM to
get free testing going on there. Yeah, I couldn't even
begin to give you a guess. Yeah. No, By the way,
I don't know I have have to say a reference this.
(29:35):
I don't We'll get back to college football in a second.
That MAVs are about to beat the bus. How about
this line from Luca don che its thirty six points,
fourteen rebounds, nineteen assists. Wow, that's unbelievable. So we could
get back to football. But I just wanted to reference that.
I don't know if have you when's the last time
you saw a stat line like that? Thirty six, fourteen
and nineteen. Jeez, my goodness, that's insane. One guys, what
(30:00):
are you doing? A year old? I was taking thirteen,
fourteen and nineteen the NBA. I was drinking at college,
so I was face down, passed out my own vomit
is what I was doing at that age. Well it wasn't. Yeah, no,
I don't blame you. And by the way, if we
if you want to get back to college football, I
do think that will be the biggest issue when we
(30:22):
get back to UH to UH the next couple of weeks,
is not people necessarily lying in their vomit like Arnie did,
but just keeping kids out of those social situations with
the ladies, with the parties, with the girls, because I
think that's largely gonna dictate if we can move forward
with the college football season. You know, as we're playing
spring football. I've kind of done about face on this.
(30:42):
And first I'm like, Okay, this could be a good
idea if you don't get it to go in the
in the fall of Wow, how great is it to
have the NFL and the NFL could play on Saturdays
too and Sundays and and then when the NFL is over,
we got college football to take us from February all
the way to whatever April or may. I mean it
sounded great, something like romantic. It sounded fantastic that year
round football. UM. But the more you think about it,
(31:05):
to put these athletes um to play in a short
time turn around get ready for maybe an NFL draft
of the following season when they get ready for another
college football season, I think that's just way too much.
I'm thinking that maybe spring football not the way they go,
though Aaron I wouldn't be against maybe those conferences I mentioned,
(31:25):
the IVY, the Miak Patriot, CIA, Swack Big Sky. Maybe
moving their games um to the spring. That way they
don't have to go against the big boys. Maybe that's
a good idea if you want to do something like that. Yeah, no,
and I do think that's I think that's why the
MAC made the decision that they did, uh, is because
of the idea that they believe they can get their
(31:46):
games on TV. They won't be in competition with the
Power conferences. They've also lost a lot of money too,
They've lost a ton of money. And the hope obviously
would be that, oh, by the way, maybe we have
a vaccine by then, maybe we figure out a way
where we don't have to test two, three, four times
a week. So it makes sense for those conferences. But
it goes back to what I've been saying. I still
(32:08):
believe the Power five, specifically the SEC, Arenie. I'm telling
you right now, I actually think there's a scenario where
the SEC just pushes forward even if the big ten
in the Pack twelve. I actually agree with pee few
tech on that that maybe those conferences are afraid to
move forward in the SEC just says screw it, We're
going forward with it. So I'm interested. I'm intrigued, But
for the power for you if the Big I think
(32:33):
I think if the Big ten says we're not going
to play this year, I think I can see the
other four big conferences saying, Okay, we're gonna do the
same thing, and what about well, okay, And also, what
do you think about the other conferences calling the top
players from the MAC trying to take them. I've got
no problem with that, Arnie. That is the dirty secret
(32:53):
of college supports and somebody who covers college hoops. I'm
telling you, if you average eighteen twenty points a game
at a small school and college basketball, you're getting called
behind the scenes by these programs trying to get you.
So that's not surprising to me. Um. But yeah, I mean,
as far as the SEC moving forward, I don't think
the SEC cares what the Big ten does. And I
(33:14):
think it could actually make the Big Ten look really
bad if they decide here in the middle of August,
over these next couple of weeks that they can't play.
The SEC moves forward, and they figure out a way
to play it out. So I might be it's the
other ways the Big Ten doesn't play, the SEC moves
forward and and it's just a disaster that would happen.
But it won't be a disaster because if no, I'm
(33:36):
positive it won't be And I'll tell you why. Because
if it's bad enough, they just won't play. But they're not.
The SEC is not dumb. They're not going to cancel
five games a week and play one if it's just
not good they if it's just not safe, they won't play.
But the idea that we have to cancel in the
middle of August is idiotic. Now I would also add
I think the Big Ten made a really stupid mistake
(33:57):
this week announcing their schedule with games on September five.
The SEC pushed their game their season back almost a
month to evaluate and see if it's possible. Why did
the Big Ten decide this week that they want to
play in September five? It made no sense. Uh, you
want to get in air and underscore, Torres. I'm instincting
genius one. Um, when we get back, we'll check it
on my Dodgers and who's going to have more wins
(34:20):
this year? My Arizona Football Wildcats or Torres's Connecticut team.
Had to get that dig in there, Torres, We'll get
to that next al right here on Fox Sports a radio.
Right did you know that? Right now, guy goes off
for an extra fifteen percent credit on car, motorcycle, and
(34:43):
RV policies. See, that's fifteen percent on top of what
Geico could already save you. So what are you waiting for?
Save an extra percent when you switch by October seventh.
Visit Geico dot com to learn more. He's Aaron Torres.
I'm Marty Spaniard. You want to be part of the
show air an Underscore Tours. I'm just thinking genius one
just because I know this happened a while ago when
(35:04):
you saw your Yukon uh husky saying no football. I
think I texted you three times in a matter of
like five minutes. You didn't answer any of my text
so I just wanted to make sure you're okay. Well,
I woke up to two texts that that morning. One
was from you, the other one said sorry for your loss,
and so I immediately freaked out when it said sorry
(35:25):
for your loss, trying to figure out what and I
was like, wait, is everybody? It was somebody that doesn't
know my family, So I was like they what are
they talking about? And then I went online, I saw
what happened. It was obviously disappointing, but I think, look,
the MAC news today is reflective that these small schools,
you kind of a small school, but the schools that
don't have as much money in the Power five, they're
gonna struggle to put a product on the field. I
(35:47):
don't think necessarily Yukon or the Mac are the last
even FBS teams that are gonna be uh canceling this season.
You know, just one thing on that. Um, I think
that teams, excuse me, schools that are that are losing
a lot of money. And I'm not just saying you
can't anybody in particular. They may have to think of,
um maybe getting rid of football and you know, going
(36:08):
in a different direction. You can't keep supporting a sport
that's gonna cost you millions and millions of dollars. So
we'll see what happens. Dodgers trail five for to the
Giants that gave in the top of the night, will
keep you up there. It was five nothing giants, So
my Dodgers making a run there. Torres and Luca, how
about Luca with the big game tonight? My friend about that,
it's unbelievable, Arnie and uh, you know, listen, the bubble
(36:30):
has been really fun. But the bubble, I think some
young guys have really emerged, and I think people are
starting to realize how good they are. Like when we
talk about the best players in the oh Lebron, Anthony, Davis, Kauai, honest,
well guess who, Yannese. The reigning m v P just
got outplayed by a twenty one year old. And so
when you start talking about one teams that could be
(36:51):
interesting when they make the playoffs, I think the MAVs
are definitely it with with Don chich and Porzingis. But
I mean, you know, we do all these was every
year about oh, if I could start a franchise with
one player, Luca, I was gonna say, Lucas getting up
there where? If he's not it, you bet there's not
many guys in front of him at this point, who
would it be? Janice, Lebron, and Harden are the three
(37:13):
finals for the m v P. UM only Janice would
you consider there? I wouldn't take hard And though he's
a great player, and Lebron's older than Dirt, So who's left? Who?
Who are you going to take the start your team.
Matter of fact, Luca is the better player than all
three of those guys right now. I was just thinking,
if you had the chance to start your franchise and
(37:34):
you had Yannice, the reigning m v P, or Luca,
I think I take Luca. I really do better shooter,
better distributor. Now, Janice is a fantastic player. I'm not
saying he's not, and he's obviously seven feet he can
handle the ball. But you start looking at what Luca's doing.
And by the way, everyone talks about the fact that
you know, uh um, Janice doesn't have much of a
(37:56):
supporting cast and can they win the chan Who does
Luca have on his team? But sides porzingis, you know,
it's not like he's playing with with four other All
stars here. So by the way, MAV's in position at
at the number seven seed, we could get MAVs Clippers
around one. How about that here? By the way, it
did turn out pretty good for the NBA, right with
the NBA bubble, I I didn't think that maybe that
(38:16):
was a good idea that we were able to go
to pull it off with the problems we haven't early,
but it's it's worked out great too, And what about
Damian Lillard misses a couple of free throws? How about that? Huh? Well,
you saw what happened after with him in Paul George,
that was unbelievable for people who didn't see it, I guess.
Paul George waved goodbye as he left the court to
Damian Lillard. Damian Lillard said, uh, well, you know I
(38:39):
did that last year when when I knocked him out
the playoffs. Paul George starts chirping at Damian Lillard on Twitter,
and Damian Lillard says, why don't you switch a team
another time? Or two? There? Paul? So, I thought he
got the upper end. I thought it was pretty incredible.
Why was Lillard wearing a basket, by the way, after
you just played in a basketball game? Where was it
in the press conference? And the press conference? A lot
(39:00):
of guys are doing that. I don't know, but then
some guys aren't. It feels like, I mean, I guess,
so you have a good game, you don't wear a mask.
If you got a bad game, you do wear a mask,
because not the way it works are what. Yeah, I
just think it's weird. But you know what's weird? To
me too, aren'tie? And I'm not trying to criticize, and
we're all taking COVID seriously, but this thing where they're
doing the interview six feet away, when the reporter is
(39:20):
wearing a mask, if we're all in the bubble and
we're all testing negative, like I, I sort of get it.
You can never be too safe, But it's kind of like,
I feel like we could just stand a couple of
feet from each other, especially if the reporters wearing a mask.
Devin said, I'm waiting to see a birth certificate for
this guy who looks a little older than twenty one
out there. It's like Danny Almante from The Little Remember
that guy? Yeah, except is really thirty one and we
(39:44):
just haven't figured it out yet. Well, there's not too
many thirty one thirty one year old dropping thirty six
twenty one thirty one doesn't really make a difference. Hold
you are when you're dropping numbers like that. Do you
think the MAVs can make a little mini run here
in the playoffs? Be interesting? At least give somebody a run,
whether it is the Clippers, the Nuggets, whoever is. I
(40:04):
think they can because obviously the Lakers are having some problems.
I believe the Coopers still seem like the overwhelming favorite.
But it isn't like the top teams. Aren't you know,
showing some cracks in the you know, in the team there.
That's the problem. So I think it's wide open this year,
certainly wide open, especially with the bubble too. Alright, wow,
our one um just flew on. By my goodness. We
(40:27):
got a lot of basketball to get to an hour
or two. The saga will join us towards the end
of the hour. You want to get in air and
underscore Torres, I'm a stinking genius one. Uh kauaisans out?
What about the Lakers? Who is the true m v P?
So much? You get to all that next here on
Fox Sports Radio. Uh good eatning everyone, as we're coming
(40:51):
to you live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. It's
brought to you by Get Go fift eight minutes could
save you fifteen percent of morning car in churches. Visit
guy could dot Com for a free rate. Quote. He's
Aaron Torres. I'm Marny Spaniard. He's Aaron Torres that hosts
the college football Saturday show that really doesn't care for
(41:14):
the college football. I'm guessing I'm more levelheaded than he
is right now, and I'm a little bit more worried
than that. Torres. We do the Saturday night show. Does
not not worry you. We do the college football wrap
up show. Um, we do the Saturday night recap show.
So like during the NBA playoffs, will talk NBA, during
(41:35):
college football, will talk college I'll say this is that
if there is no college football, which I do not
believe is gonna happen, one will have NBA playoff games
through the middle of October. And you better believe the
the NFL is gonna jump in and play some Saturday
games if there's no college football on Saturday. So you're
a little bit of a snob then when you say that,
when you say, well, I know they'll be college football.
(41:56):
But so I guess to you, the Ivy and the
meact Patriot, the swack, the big skuy ci A, all
that that you know, that doesn't matter to you. That's
that's just pittance to you. I guess as you elitist, right,
is that what you're saying? Real quick? Aready? Just real quick?
I was kind of curious, um, what was your favorite
moment from MEAC football last year. I I just want
to make sure I don't remember. I remember you really
(42:19):
get you know. I remember we lad the show every
week and you broke it down and then we would
jump to the big Sky What was your what was
the best big who won Big SAX Game of the week.
Don't you remember us talking about that? What's wrong with you?
What was the big who was the big Sky play?
Why am I blanking? So? Why are so? What do
you trying to tell me? Because we don't talk about it,
They're insignificant or I can't. Can't I say the same
(42:41):
thing about college basketball also and say, we don't talk
about that conference in this conference alts. Know what I'm
saying is we talk about the Big ten in the
SEC because they matter, um, and they matter because they're
the schools that people care about, the schools that people
watch on TV, and the schools that make money. And
so because of that, I believe that they're gonna do
everything that they can to continue to push forward and
(43:03):
try to play games. Doesn't I'm not guaranteeing we get
games on set on the first Saturday or whatever. I'm saying,
They're gonna push forward and try to do it because
it means more. It makes more. And the reason that
the MAC, even the MAC as a as a a
Division one FBS conference, the reason that they canceled because
they don't make enough money to justify pe fu Tech
said an hour one. If the MAC was making money
(43:25):
hand over fists and it made sense fiscally for them
to play, they would. It's not about them not being
able to play, it's that they literally can't afford to
or maybe somebody is a little bit worried. Now, um,
and we've talked about this. We'll get more into this.
And if you want to comment, Aaron underscore tourism, just
think a genius one. Also about the health of the players. Um,
(43:45):
God forbid somebody or a bunch of people get sick,
then we've got some problems. It's a little bit different
in professional sports where they're getting paid and they can
always opt out and still get um you know some
type of paycheck. Lot different when you're playing college sports,
torres um and you're going to school. But you know
a lot of these schools are doing My son is
(44:07):
doing remote only the first semester at Kent State. He
goes to a max school. UM, he plays hockey. They're
they're they're gonna go ahead and not have any season
until possibly after January one, if they have a season
at all. This I feel bad for the kids nowadays
going to school. It's got to be terrible too, you know,
try to maneuver through something like this well. And but
(44:27):
that also brings up an interesting point to me, is
so let's just take the Big Ten. So I looked
it up today. Out of the fourteen schools in the
Big Ten, thirteen, I'm almost certain thirteen Rutgers was the
only one that is not planning on having very many
students on campus this year. So it's okay to bring
sixty thou students back to Ohio State, but we can't
play football in an empty stadium. May not even be okay.
(44:50):
They're doing it because of the money. Um, you know,
if you're gonna financial financially cripple universities and institutions when
you don't bring the kids back home, and we're not
gonna financially cripple athletics by not playing, you know what,
we we may do that too. I'm not saying you're wrong.
I saw what Wisconsin put out, um, a hundred million
dollar loss if there's no fans, sixty to seventy million
(45:12):
dollar loss, even if there's some fans out there, I mean,
if the Wisconsins and the texas Is are going to
have problems, what does that say about the other schools
like the U Cons and Arizonas of the world, um,
that don't bring in a lot of money or or
as much money as they do. It. It's it's a
tough situation. I just want to hear what people have
to say, and hey, speak up now forever hold your piece.
Do we play this thing? Or um? Or am I
(45:34):
just falling into his tray? Clay Travis calls it the
fear porn and the Corona bros out there, um, because
they got me terrified. I I mean, now that the
MAC has gone, what really got me terrified was the
big tent saying we're, you know, we're gonna, you know,
take the next step and we'll see what happens if
we even play at all. I'm like, oh jeez, that's
that's not what I want to hear. So again, Aaron
(45:56):
underscore Torres, I'm in stinking genius one. But the NBA
has worked out a lot better, not a lot of
defense there's been a lot of scoring, a lot more
than I thought there was gonna be in the and
the game has been The games have been a lot
better than I thought it was gonna be. I've been
thoroughly enjoying this, you know. I think it's been a
fantastic product. I think the games have been fun. I
(46:16):
don't know how much you were in the house today.
We don't have to break it down because I know
that's what you're gonna say. Did you watch that Jazz
Nuggets game? Yes? I did, Yes, I double overtime, Like
every game comes down to the wire. You reference the
Damian Lillard miss free throws. The Blazers were up five
or six with like three minutes to go and end
up losing. Um. The games have been really good. And
it's funny because I remember coming on a couple of saturdays,
(46:41):
you and I were talking about this and I was
critical about dam Silver. He's dragging his feet, he doesn't
want to do this. Did the players really want to play? Well,
they're all down there for the most part. Some guys
opted out and never blame anybody for doing that. Uh,
And they're playing hard and it's fun and I'm really
enjoying watching it. Um I want to bring up Kawhi
Leonard he sits out. All the Clippers were and um,
they're winning without Kauai Williams. Um I scored ten points.
(47:05):
I think. I don't know if you saw that, check
it on out, but it doesn't make a difference who's
on the team, though I have disappointed. I mean, did
you just take the last four months off? Um? Should
you really not be able to play in back to
back games when you've had four months off and you
only have and I know there's these games have don't
have a lot of meeting, especially because the Lakers wrapped
up the number one seed, But should you be taking
(47:26):
time off right now? Taures with with only eight games
that when we started things back up or what? Well,
I wouldn't say that they have no meaning for the Clippers.
I'm trying to pull up the standings here, but they
are there. Look, they're in the two spot right now,
but there really isn't all that much separating two, three,
four and a potential second round matchup with the Lakers
if you fall to that four seed. And so yeah,
(47:48):
the the Lakers have nothing to play for. The Bucks
have nothing to play for, which is interesting because both
teams played their stars today and lost. But the Clippers
are a team that has something to play for. Here,
goodwin by them today. But I think it's a fair
point by u Arnie Kaway. At some point in these
playoffs might have to play back to backs, and so
you better get used to it. Well, they have to play.
I don't think they'll have to play back to back
(48:08):
in the playoffs and all those ever know, but I
mean they may have to play, you know, get one,
Dame rest On there um, well bron missed not this game,
but the game before that. They said what sore groin
or something to that effect. I still just can't believe
after a four month layoff that you can't finish up
the eight games in the regular season, especially you know,
(48:31):
after all that time off, and you know we had
eight games to finish it on out, you know. Yeah.
And and like we just said a minute ago, is
that these teams are fighting for playoff positioning, you know,
and so obviously it's been a big talking point the
last couple of days. But I mean Zion Williamson not
playing today or yesterday because it was a back to back,
(48:52):
and it's like, dude, at some point like are we playing?
Are we trying to get into the playoffs? Are we
trying to position ourselves to make a run here? And
so I give guys Lebron credit there really to your point,
there really is nothing to play for for a guy
like that, and he went out there and played hard today.
I don't understand why some of these guys aren't. All right.
Let's talk about my Lakers now, Um, does it make
Does it make any difference what they do from here
(49:14):
on out to the end of the season because they've
already clinched the number one seed? Doesn't make an difference
of Lebron plays. Do you look at the score and say, oh,
my goodness, they've got some problems or can you look
at the way they play? And I think you can
look at the way they play and say, you know what, Um,
for number one seed, they certainly don't look unbeatable like
the number one seeds of the past. Uh, like the
(49:35):
Golden State Warriors and teams like that. They look like
a very beatable, strong team. Matter of fact, except for
the Clippers, I think a lot of the teams UH
in the top three or four look very beatable. I mean,
the Lakers, what do you think, do you look at
what they've done now or or do you say it's
no big deal because you know they've already had the
number one seed clinched. Yeah, no, I think it's totally fair.
(49:56):
And that was some of the questions that we had
coming into the bubble. Avery Bradley, Um, you know, he
was playing really well before the season stopped in March,
and you lose him. He's one of your best perimeter players,
your best shooters, your best defenders. You lose right Gen
Rondo and they have not looked the same. And you
could sit there and say, oh, you know, they don't
have much to play for. Lebron played thirty five minutes today.
(50:16):
Anthony Davis played thirty five minutes today. So if you're
telling me they have nothing to play for, it seems
as though Frank Vogel and the Lakers guys disagree. Arnie.
I'd start to get a little worried here because the
Clippers are playing really well. And I'll tell you this,
I know it's kind of a hot topic right now.
The way the Blazers are playing. I know they didn't
win today, they're playing really well. If you get the
(50:38):
Blazers in round one. I'm not saying they're gonna beat you,
but do you really want to play Damian Lillard and
Carmelo Anthony and all those guys. No, of course, though,
of course, by the way, you mentioned something. You just
said that you know the NBA got it right. The
games have been good, the scoring has been tremendous, and guys,
certain guys have stepped on up that haven't stepped up
(51:00):
fall year because they're not playing for the fans. They
don't feel like they have to um worry about what
the fans are gonna say or boo them, so they
just go ahead and I feel like they could just
play their game. Maybe we should play five or ten
games a year without fans there with with the with
the way basketball looking now, I kind of like the
way the scoring is up and down. Maybe we should
play without fans for a couple of games. What do
(51:21):
you think next year? I tweeted this the other day.
We we have to start every season from now on
with eight games left in a bubble. That's the rule.
That's the rule. I'm sorry, but that's the rule. Because
it has been awesome. I'm serious. Is that every game
is coming down to the wire. I think not because
way it's up because there's no fans, that the players
are more relaxed. That's why the scoring is up, as
I thought scoring would be down. I think the players
(51:42):
are refreshed from the break. And I have h an
honest take is that And it might sound like a
hot take, but I truly believe it. I think not
having their families there, I think not having their agents there,
I think they can just focus on basketball. I mean
and and by the way, they can't go anywhere. I
was listening to Chris Mannix. He did an interview with
Colin Cowher this week, and he was saying, you know,
(52:03):
the first couple of days, guys that may never played golf,
we're trying to play golf, and guys that never fish,
we're trying to play fit. We're trying to play. We're
trying to go fishing. Um. But now it's kind of like,
you know, you go to the arena, you do your thing,
and then you come back. And so I think that
the Yeah, I'm not criticizing a wife for a girlfriend.
I'm not saying that, but I do think the fact
that really outside of their teammates there's really nobody around.
(52:26):
I think that might be why we're seeing so much good.
There is less distractions. I'm going to give you that.
But the real reason erin um, it's because there's no travel.
That's the travel takes so much out of a player. Um,
and I'll pick any day. Let's just say a Monday
there in a different city. Get up, you do your
(52:47):
shoot around and go back, maybe taking nap. You get
your lunch or early dinner, whatever the hell you want
to call it. You play your game, you leave town
what one am. After you're done with the game and
you're getting dressed, You do your interviews, You fly all night,
You get into the next place in three, four in
the morning. You know, you finally go to sleep. At
five in the morning, you get up, shoot around, blah
blah blah, get ready for the Wednesday game. I mean
(53:10):
that takes its toll on you. Just the fact that
you could just stay in your hotel room and not
travel at all. Though air travel, that's that's just tremendous.
That's why the scoring is really up like it is
right now. Well, and I'll give you a good example that, uh,
the sun's one yesterday to go to four No in
the bubble um, and I think everyone's reaction was, well,
you know they're on a nice game winning streak, but
(53:31):
it's back to back today and you know they probably
won't win well they want today and they were playing
the Heat. The Heat obviously didn't have Jimmy Butler. But
I think that's a perfect example of that. Is if
they played last night and they had, like you said,
they had to hop on a flight and they're on
in the air for two three hours, they land da da,
Maybe they come out a little flat today, maybe they
say we'll get him next time. But I think that's
a good example, and there's there's been a lot of those,
(53:53):
but that was just one that came to mind when
you were kind of setting that up. You want to
get in air and underscore tours. I'm in stinking genius
War and uh, what's this Lebron's mystery story that's supposed
to be off the court Torres? And I will discuss
that coming up next right here on Fox Sports Radio. Right,
good evening, everyone are in Torres. Arnie Span, You're right
(54:15):
here on Fox Sports Radio. Blue EMU Maximum Pain Relief.
You see, it works fast and you won't stink as
pharmacists recommended odor free pain relief for muscle pain, back aches, strains, sprains,
even are threat It's I've got all five. There's no
stinging or burning involved in simple pain relief. Blue EMU
(54:35):
maximum pain relief works fast and you won't stink. We
want you to be part of the show air and
underscore tourism in stinking genius one Torres. How come nobody's
bringing up the question? What was Lebron talking about after
the game the other day where they were talking about
the team and he said he agreed that the Lakers
were looking for a rhythm on offense, and then he said,
(54:58):
it's just some things you can't can con troll. That's here,
and I really don't want to talk about that. That's
off the floor. What the hell does that mean? And
did anybody press them for for an answer there? And
they'd be the good they'd be a good follow up, right, Um,
what do you mean, Lebron? What do you mean? What
do you mean off the floor? You've got some problems.
I'm not following you on this. No, it was an
(55:21):
interesting story and the Lakers are struggling and you know
you it's it's funny, right, Like, do we overreact to
the fact that they're too and four in the bubble?
Do we say, well, they already have the number one
seed clinched. But even if you say they have the
number one seed clinched, as I said a minute ago,
Anthony Davis and Lebron both played thirty five minutes today.
So to me, it feels like there's something wrong and
(55:42):
you look at this team and they have They're one
of the few teams. You know, Arenie. It's interesting, is
like all these teams had new pieces at the beginning
of the year, the Rockets, the Clippers, on and on
and on the box, obviously whatever the Celtics with Kemba Walker,
the Lakers um got new pieces going into the bubble
with Rondo getting hurt and Avery Bradley out and obviously
(56:04):
Dion Waiters and j R. Smith joining. So to me,
it's just I watch him and it feels like something
it's not right. Maybe I'm overreacting, but that's just how
I feel. What No, No, you're gonna give me an answer.
I want an answer here. What what could possibly be
wrong um that he doesn't want to talk about that's
affecting the team. Is he talking about meals. I can't
assume that meals are a problem. I know we saw
(56:27):
the turkey sandwich with the apple and stuff like that,
and everybody was making a big deal about that. But
this is this is the Lakers. Are you gonna tell
me that they're not getting good meals or that the
rooms allousy? I'm not buying into any of that. What
could possibly be the problem that he brought something like
this up. I don't know. It's something off the court.
I mean, it's something in terms of chemistry, or guys
(56:49):
aren't doing what they were supposed to do. I mean
JaVale McGee, I thought it was interesting he only played
thirteen minutes the other night and people are wondering did
he was he getting sort of benched? What did he
do something? But I think it's a chemistry thing. I
think it's people goofing off. Maybe guys complaining about stuff.
I mean, listen, j R. Smith, Let's not forget basically
came out of retirement to play for this team and
(57:10):
he's not playing. I'm assuming he's probably not very happy.
Whether he has anything to be unhappy about, I don't know. Uh.
Deon Waiters has been problematic. It's funny. People forget this.
Dion Waiters was on the Calves when Lebron went back
to Cleveland for the second time, and Labron immediately traded him.
So I just think you bring in a bunch of
new guys. Everybody wants to play. By the way, you're
(57:32):
coming into this bubble. You have to go through all
this testing, all this stuff. You're away from your family,
and if guys aren't playing, I'm guessing there unhappy and
and that would be my guess is it's some kind
of chemistry thing. Who you by the way, right now,
if I held you toward who you're picking the Clippers,
that's your team that you think is gonna When does
you can't trust the Lakers right now? Or what? Yeah?
I mean I picked the Lakers in the prese or
I picked the Clippers excuse me in the preseason, and
(57:54):
there's no reason for me to go against it now.
I mean for them to win today. I know it
it's just a game, and and you know it doesn't
mean much in the grand scheme, but I think the
fact that they beat the Blazers without Kauai today is
a great sign. And when they get all their guys.
Lou Williams is now back harrow all those guys. They're
a really really good team. They're deep, they're athletic. I
(58:15):
think they're the best team I do. I think the
East is wide open. UM. Milwaukee obviously the class of
the East. But Toronto is playing good basketball. UM. Don't
overlook the Celtics who beat Toronto, especially that Kemba Walker
is not a hundred percent and they're doing the one
game play one game not Kemba has not been the
same since the All Star Game, UM, and he shouldn't
(58:37):
have played that many minutes. Miami certainly could go ahead
and pick it up, and they're a damn good team.
I don't trust Philadelphi anymore now that Simmons has gone.
But I think getting one of those four, if you
want to throw the pacers and maybe five, UM could
come out of the East. It's that wide open. But
I don't know. I think a little bit of an
upside of maybe the Celtics or of the three seed.
Right now. I'd watch out for them because even when
(58:58):
Kemba is not playing well, they look good. I mean
they just I mean they banned together and man, they
score a lot of points. I think they're the second
highest scoring team. I believe in the Eastern Conference. I
like the Celtics a lot. Yeah, and I'm looking right
now the Bucks are I believe to one in two
and three. I believe in the bubble so far after tonight,
(59:20):
real quick, I mean you just referenced it, you do
a New England based radio show. Is they're starting to
be like growing confidence up in Boston that they could
actually make a run and take down the Bucks. There
was there was confidence, you know, as the season came
to a stop, and then when you look what's going
right now, we said, okay, they're gonna play Philadelphia in
the first round, which it looks like the three six
(59:40):
matchup unless Philadelphia somehow catches the Pacers. I don't see
that happening, or Miami. So that's scoring to work in
the Boston's favor. And you know, if you take a
look at Kemba Walker, if this guy is healthy, I'm
not so sure there's a team that the Celtics can't
beat out there. Look, it's gonna be tough to beat
Milwaukee in Toronto, but they score heck of a lot.
(01:00:01):
They played some good defense. They have trouble guarding big
men out there. But I really like the Celtics. I
think right now i'd be putting some money on them
over Milwaukee, Toronto or Miami. Yeah. I Um, I had
Clipper Celtics before the season, and I feel pretty good
about it. Like you said, Kemba Walker is not even
playing right now, and they're playing pretty well, uh, the
(01:00:23):
Boston Celtics. And so when I look at this, uh,
this situation, it's interesting to me, is the Bucks are
this runaway favor not I don't want to say favorite.
They're the runaway, uh number one seed in the East,
and they dominated all regular season. Yet I I don't
talk to anybody that's like, yeah, they are for sure
the favorites in the East. As a matter of fact,
I thought it was interesting this week I went on
(01:00:44):
the Odd Couple with Chris and Rob. Did they never
ask me anymore? Ever? Since I beat them up on
on their own game the hot Seats, So they don't
ask me to come on anymore. Well, I don't blame them.
I wouldn't do radio with you if I didn't have
to either, but um, they One of the topics I
proposed was the Bucks should not be favored in the East,
(01:01:06):
and neither of them took it because I think they
kind of agree. So I just find it interesting that
a team that has such a comfortable lead for the
number one seed dominated the regular season. I don't feel
like anyone feels like they're gonna win the East. Does
that make sense? Absolutely? That's you shouldn't say anybody right now.
They still had fifty five wins. Don't overlook because of
(01:01:27):
what they've done in the bubble so far. A lot
of these games are insignificant to teams like that the Lakers, UM,
So don't put too much into that. It's all gonna
be about matchups. Everybody's picking the You know, Portland's Trail
Bays is all of a sudden, Can they beat the Lakers?
Can they pull the upset? Damian Lillard um, they're a
damn good team, but they're not upsetting anybody in the
(01:01:47):
first time. You don't think so, No, that's not happening.
Damian Lillard said today he sent Paul George home last year.
Maybe he'll send Lebron home this year. Can you imagine
Sports Talk radio? If leron Seed that the horrible, absolutely
terrible for the NBA, for le Bron got sent to
home in the first round. Good for us, punny to
talk about, but horrible for the NBA. Remember last week
(01:02:09):
I asked you, I said, do you think Adam Silver
is pissed that the Pelicans aren't playing Zion? And you
said no, because there's an exemption. If your name starts
with P and ENDZ and elkins, you automatically go to
the second round of the playoffs. I feel like there's
gonna be an exemption like that for the Lakers. I
I think the the NBA would not be very happy
if they got bounced in the first round. No. Um,
(01:02:31):
though there are people NBA experts thinking that that's the
sexy pick right now, jumping on the Portland's bandwagon. Though.
That was a terrible loss today and just see that one.
Huh Yeah, No, I mean they had the game in
complete control and to lose that, not only lose the game,
but obviously lose it without Kawuai Leonard on the floor.
I thought it was interesting, we'll have Bernie on and
we'll talk about it a little later. But I got
(01:02:53):
nervous for the Blazers when Kauai officially got announced that
he wasn't playing, and every single person ran to Twitter
and said, get Portland's while you can't get Portland while
you can in terms of a betting, the number is
gonna go up. Get him now. And I was like,
when everybody does this, it's always a bad sign. And
sure enough, Clippers pulled off the upset and the Lillard
(01:03:13):
missed two free throws. You're not going to say anything
on that or what and um, you can't miss that
when you're a superstar, you just can't. If that was
Lebron that missed two file shots, we'd be talking about
that for like five years straight. Yeah, I mean, I'm
gonna I'm I don't know if I'm gonna be critical
too critical of Dame when you know, over the course
of this season he's hitting eight of his file shots
(01:03:34):
and that makes it worse, I guess. I mean it's
like that, like that's no big deal. It's like saying,
have you ever had a bad segment? The answer we
all know it's absolutely, but when it does, I'll be upset. Okay,
in the future, I've been doing this thirty years or whatever,
not not a single bad segment. But I'm sure it's
bound to happen. Within the next thirty see and it's
(01:03:55):
bound to happen that. You know, Dame's gonna miss two
file shots at one point. So here to get in
aird other score Tores, I'm at stinking genius one, uh Zia.
I want to get into him a little bit because
he's looking larger and in charge, and I I thought
he lost some weight other stuff in the NBA, like
some of the first rounds. I want to get to.
But are these last day games. But first, let's check
(01:04:16):
in with the Saga. See what's trending out there, what's
going on. We'll start with the NBA's five games. You know,
a Dallas Mavericks lost tonight would have clinched the division
for Houston. There are still divisions in the NBA. Dallas
is seventh in the conference. Houston is fourth in the West.
But you know what, Dallas is only three games behind Houston,
and Dallas has three to go. Houston has four games
(01:04:37):
to go, four out of their eight in the Orlando Bubble. Dallas,
in overtime, won the late game tonight, beating Milwaukee one
thirty six one thirty two. Luca don Sitch not only
with a triple double, it was thirty six points, fourteen rebounds,
nineteen assists and only two turnovers. That's like counting for
like sixty points for your team. Yeah, I mean, granted
(01:04:58):
they scored one thirty six. That didn't just play forty
eight minutes. But when he had the between the legs
passed in overtime, I believe it was down the lane.
It's just are you kidding me? With this kid? And
yesterday he was nominated for most Improved in the league
this year. He might he might win that. I don't
want to go out a limb. He might win that.
Phoenix won against Miami one nineteen, one twelve, so the
(01:05:19):
Sons are five and oh in the Bubble. The Heat
currently fourth in the Eastern Conference. Miami was one game
over the Pacers in Philadelphia with the regular season ending
come Friday. Indiana did win tonight, beating the Lakers won
sixteen to one eleven t J. Warren with thirty nine points.
Clippers beat Portland seventeen. Kawhi Leonard did not play Denver
(01:05:41):
and double overtime edged Utah one thirty four one thirty two.
Donovan Mitchell at thirty five points in defeat, he was
twelve of thirty three shooting Utah with twenty two turnovers
in the loss Nicola Yokich and the Nuggets thirty points.
Denver had trailed by fourteen at the half. Wanted in
double o t Dustin Johnson leads by one stroke at
the p g A Championship after his third round sixty
(01:06:03):
five in San Francisco, Brooks keptoes two back. Tiger Wood
shot seventy two again. He's tied for fifty ninth place.
Kevin Harvick won the NASCAR Race at Michigan. Brad Keslowski
was second. There's another Cup race there tomorrow. This was
Harvick's fifth victory of the season. The Women's Tennis Tour
resumed this past week in Italy. Here in this country,
there's attorney in Kentucky starting Monday with Serena Williams. Major
(01:06:25):
League Soccer's Tournament final is Tuesday in Orlando, and then
the regular season for the MLS resumes on Wednesday. They're
going back to the home cities and play it out,
with playoffs starting in November. In the MLB late games
these three finals, San Francisco beat the Dodgers in l
A five four. It was five nothing when the winning
pitcher Johnny Quetto had a no hitter going in the
(01:06:46):
bottom of the six Why do you think the Dodgers
and Lakers keep losing, Arenie, We've pinned it on you
before the games were playing all of us. As soon
as you said college football has no chance of happening.
I've never felt more confident that September. So Quato, the
winning pitcher, had the no hitter in the sixth until
what was a rule to triple The left fielder simply
(01:07:07):
lost the ball and it landed without him anywhere near
it near the warning track. And there was also a
Justin Turner three run homer in the bottom of the
six Those were the only two Dodger hits all night.
They lost five to four. Colorado is the first place
team in the Division eleven and three record. They shut
out the Mariners at Seattle five nothing. Mariners had one
hit and Arizona held on to beat San Diego three
(01:07:29):
to The Yankees split a double header at Tampa Bay.
Jean Carlos Stanton left early tight hamspring hamstring the problem.
He could be going on the injured list. Remember, double
headers are seven innings each. This year, Philadelphia has got
a doubleheader coming up tomorrow because last night's game in
Philly was reined out, So the twin bill tomorrow will
mean nearly a quarter of all Phils games this shortened
(01:07:50):
season will be seven innings in length. Wow. Wow, Welcome
back to the Fox Sports Radio studios. It's brought to
you by Geico. It's easy to say five team per
center Mark Contrance with Geico. Just go to Geico dot
com or give him a call one eight hundred nine
four seven otto. The only hard part, well, that's figuring
out which way is easier. He's Aaron Torres. I'm Marni Span,
(01:08:12):
You're real simple to get into the show. Aaron underscore. Torres,
I'm instincting genius one, you know. Aaron Winding. I don't
understand is why NBA has been off for four months.
They come back, they're playing in a bubble and Zion
looks like he's been vacationing on some fancy yacht, just
eating a buffet or something like that. That don't be
overly critical, but damn this is wrong and I can't
(01:08:35):
believe he's not getting a lot of criticism on this.
When you have four months off and you can't play basketball,
that's a perfect time to get your body in the shape,
lose some weight, drop some pounds, and get going, not
to sit around and gain weight and be out of
and being out of playing shape and having to play
fourteen or fifteen minutes in the game. Um, I got
(01:08:57):
I got a serious problem with that. I I there,
you come in so so much out of shape like that. Well,
and it's crazy because remember like a week or two
before the season started, that video or the picture was
posted of him in a mask and you see his
like biceps ripping out of and and you're like, dude,
this guy's jacked. And so I don't know if he
just ate too much when he left the bubble or
(01:09:20):
what the deal is. But I'll tell you this, ny.
You know, one thing that always I always laughed at, right,
was remember when he came out of Duke, and everyone said, oh,
you know, well, once he gets in an NBA weight program,
wait till he's gotten bigger. Now. Well, not only that,
but Duke. What I will say about Duke is they
have the best of the best of everything, and they
(01:09:40):
are better run than a lot of these NBA organizations.
And so like the idea that he was just uh,
you know, Dunkin Donuts, in uh in uh, you know,
chocolate milk. His whole time at Duke was preposterous. And
I saw somebody say today or excuse me, earlier this week,
that they felt like he was in better shape at Duke.
And so I don't know what they were doing at
Duke that they're not do in New Orleans, but whatever
(01:10:01):
it is, it's clearly a problem. I agree with you.
And you know what, how much cheesy worth. I'm not
gonna get into all the money he's he's gonna be
a billion dollar athlete perhaps if yeah, if he doesn't,
he's not gonna get that second and third shoe contract
if he doesn't step it up. But just for argument's sake,
half million, whatever it is, billion, whatever it is. Uh,
he doesn't have a guy, a health guy, somebody next
(01:10:24):
to him that says, you can't do this. You're gonna
be a billion dollar athlete if anything. You've got to
be in shape. It's one thing not to play good
basketball because you're trying to play your way back in
the shape or you know, get your back which you're
shooting touch and stuff like that. It's another thing to
not be physically in shape. When you're supposed to be
the face of the NBA. We're not talking about just
(01:10:45):
any shlub out there to Torres, We're talking about the
face of the NBA for maybe the next twenty years.
And he can't even get on for more than fourteen
minutes because they're holding back his minutes. That that's wrong.
When you've been gone for four months, you well, you know.
And it's wild because I remember during this endemic, Luca
don Chit, who we talked about tonight for people who
missed it, triple double thirty six points, fourteen rebounds, nineteen assists.
(01:11:08):
He came. He was on the record of saying, I
was having trouble staying in shape and I had to
hire a trainer to get get my button gear. And
so I don't know what the excuses for Zion, because
it's funny, right, Arnie, If if he had just had
a good rookie year he struggled like this under normal circumstances,
you can say, well, just wait till he's healthy for
a whole off season. Well, he was healthy for the
(01:11:28):
entire quarantine. He was playing well before the quarantine. Uh,
and then he and then he has five months off
and like you said, you gotta figure out a way
to get in shape. You are a professional now, whether
that means hiring a chef, hiring a trainer, whatever it is.
I understand he's got a different body type and he's
just bigger than most guys. But you've gotta figure it out,
(01:11:49):
you really do, especially when you're the face of the NBA,
are going to be the face of the NBA or
being pegged as the next face of the NBA. And
I know you said he's not gonna make a billy
in dollars, but the potentials they're here, in the potential
five hundred million, seven hundred million, a billion, whatever it is.
If this guy gets into shape and plays the way
he's been playing, this guy's the limit for him. But
(01:12:12):
the way it may keep him back on such a
thing right now, Well, and that's what I meant when
you said he's a billion dollar athlete, And I said, well,
he's got to play well enough to get that second
and third shoe contract. But but no, and and and
I totally agree. And it's so funny because I remember
when Derrick Rose years ago signed that huge I think
there's a hundred million dollars shoe contract, he couldn't stay healthy.
You think Nike's having a little buyer's remorse right now?
(01:12:34):
I mean Jordan Brand, whoever is the official sponsor. I
mean they committed what ninety million dollars to him before
he ever played a game, and he can't even get
forget performing when he's there. He can't even get on
the court right now, and so I think it's a
bad look. Uh, Aaron on the score tourist, I'm in
stinking genius one. By the way, they did announce the
(01:12:54):
three finals for the m v P, Janice, Lebron, hardened Um,
and I still wouldn't take any of those three over Luca.
We burned that up earlier. I think though, Lebron should
probably win the m v P based on what he's
done and getting the Lakers to the number one seed
plus the numbers. Or would you give it to Janna
so hard as there's something I'm missing here now, I'm
with you. I'm with you because you look at the Lakers. Uh,
(01:13:16):
they basically flipped over their entire roster from last season
new head coach. I have no problem with giving it
to Lebron and and I don't actually really understand what
the strong argument is for Joannice. I know statistically he's
a little bit better, but they were really good last year.
When you look at where the Lakers were to where
they are now, I was I've been critical of Lebron.
I do think he quit on the team a little
bit last year. But I also don't have a problem
(01:13:38):
with saying this year he has been the best and
most important player in the NBA. Paul Bills Mafia says
John Morant is better than Zion. The problem is it
is in two nationally televised games this year of the
grizz versus the Pelicans, Moran had been horrible, throwing up
bricks like crazy. No, I'm not gonna take Moran over Zion.
I thought maybe there was a possible Odi and uh,
(01:14:01):
he is certainly good. But Zion is a step is
just special. There's no doubt about that. You think, so
how you were just crushing he just he called him
large and in charge less than five large and charge
and special? Can you be both or what can you
do that? I guess he can be that. That may
that may not cost him his career, but that may
cost him, you know, greatness. That could be the difference
(01:14:23):
between a Hall of Fame athlete and I mean, look,
I still think he's gonna be a Hall of Famer,
And I know that's a lot of pressure to put
on somebody that's a barely played a year. You could
just see it though, in him. He scored more points
I think in a limited amount of games. Only Michael
Jordan's had that many points in such a small amount
of games. You can see the potential there. There's no doubt. Yeah,
(01:14:43):
I would add Jah is averaging eighteen points and seven
assists per game as a rookie, So it's not as
though he's chopped liver. So no, that's true. I didn't
mean to say that, all right, right now, Aaron on
the score Toros, i'moul stinking genius one. When we get back,
the Sager stops on by, we'll get to some of
the stuff that we didn't get too earlier that's covered
to X right here on Fox Sports A Radio. I
(01:15:08):
welcome back to the Fox Sports Radio studios. This segment
brought to you by Geico. Let's check in with the Sega.
See what we've missed so far? What's going on out
there to seg? Well, gentlemen, the TV ratings are Corona,
by the way, Steve the Sea, I should say that now,
how is that so? I don't know, I just wanted
to say that so you can get by the way,
that's a really dismissive phrase. And the second time you've
(01:15:30):
mentioned it on the show tonight. Is it not what
Corona bro? Yeah, I mean it's it rhymes. It is
a phrase. It's I'm not saying it's not worth using,
but it is acting like, you know, somebody who takes
the virus seriously, Well, that's quite Travis is uh? I repeat,
it's as if someone who takes the virus seriously is
stupid or something. I think it's been proven just the opposite.
(01:15:50):
You know, we would be back too closer to normal
now if people had taken it seriously. The first couple
three montes it to a guy that lives in Vermont.
We know what you know, what you're doing? Yeah, uh,
you know, disengage from society. That's what we have. We
have four hundred total cases. Think about that for a second.
(01:16:10):
The next one after ahead of us is three thousands.
So well, Arnie can take a walk in the mountains
and not see another human for two hours. Anyway, in
San Francisco this weekend is the p g A Championship,
and they're getting good golf ratings. As Sports Media Watch
pointed out, this is the first p g A Championship
on the West Coast in over twenty years, so it's
(01:16:32):
East Coast prime time. First two rounds. The p g
A is averaging on ESPN one point five one million viewers,
NBA getting one point five six million for the first
full week of the restart if the national channels combined.
Still for golf, that is the best of the last
five years for Day one and for Day two of
(01:16:53):
the p g A Championship. For the NBA, it's actually
down slightly from the regular season ratings they were getting
before March, before the season was shut down. Why I
don't understand this, Why you got me now? Something like
the Lakers gets about average about what they were getting
regular season before. Like the Lakers were a t NT
(01:17:13):
game Thursday that was that was one point six million.
I think, so something like that, I get it. But
if you're averaging all the games on the national networks
including ABC, it's one point five six million. But compare
that to hockey, which is under six hundred thousand four
The Young playoff games Tuesday and Wednesday on NBC s N.
By the way, the Fox Baseball Thursday night had about
(01:17:34):
one point five million. That was mostly Cubs Royals. Gotta
mention t J. Warren of the Indiana Pacers, former first
rounder of the Sun's incredible last Saturday Night. Remember he
had a fifty three point game tonight against the Lakers.
He scored eighteen just the first quarter. He wound up
with thirty nine points. They beat l A one sixteen
one oleven. T J. Warren was fifteen of twenty two
(01:17:56):
shooting from the floor. This guy, in his five games
at the Bubble so far is averaging thirty five points
per game. They should play without fans, I told Torres
with you play what play eight games without fans every year?
See this type of game. He had five years with
the Phoenix Suns average fourteen points a game, So it's
not like he didn't deserve to be a first rounder.
(01:18:17):
But this, what we've seen is just ridiculous. To say,
real quick, I know you'll probably get too. Can you
explain to me what's going on in hockey? I'm so
confused with the Penguins and Oilers getting eliminated and the
Penguins are like the number one seed. I don't understand,
but maybe you'll get to. That was the best of five.
They let twelve in each conference into the playoffs instead
of the top eight, so the twelve seeds pulled off
(01:18:37):
the upset in the best of five, Penguins were the
five seed. The top four seeds were Washington, the Bruins, Tampa,
and Philadelphia. So now those twelve seeds will face what
was decided tonight. Vegas will be number one in the
West because they won again in the round robin. Philadelphia
will be number one seed in the East because they
won again tonight in the round robin. There is a
(01:18:58):
best of five game five tomorrow night to finish things
up with Columbus at Toronto. All the Eastern Conference games
are in Toronto. But of course, what Toronto a three
goal lead and Clubus blew a three goal lead back
to back games there right that last game that had
never happened in NHL history Friday night to be in
an elimination game and down three nothing with under five
(01:19:19):
minutes to go, and Toronto came back to tie it
and winning an overtime That literally had never happened before,
happens against that happened against I forget what was against
the Bruins, I believe right in one game you're talking
about in the series, and then they had the lot
the final game of a seven game series, they fell
apart against the Bruins, I believe. I remember that. It
(01:19:40):
was like they were up like five nothing or something
like that. Yeah, well no, not that much, but like
three goals, and it was three goals. Meanwhile, at the
bottom of the NBA standings getting invited back, the Phoenix
Suns had a record of twenty six and thirty nine,
and kind of like the Wizards, I think most of
us said, why why are they getting invited back again?
The Phoenix Suns? And now guess what they're ivan Oh,
in the bubble, they actually have a shot. Ladies and gentlemen.
(01:20:04):
Why because you don't have to finish eighth to get
the eight seed this year in the NBA. As long
as you're close to the eight seed, they'll let you
in a play in series to steal the seed. That's right,
And plenty of teams are within four games of the
eight seed Memphis. Now are they taking all the teams no, no,
just just nine verses eight. Now the play in series
(01:20:26):
to decide the eight seed will be next weekend. In
the NBA, Portland's game and a half behind number eight, Memphis,
Sons and Spurs two back. They've all have three games
to go in the Bubble. Regular season ends for the
league on Friday night. They've all played five three to go.
It's just incredible. Now in that play in series, you
have to win back to back games to steal the
(01:20:46):
eight seed from the eighth place team Memphis. For example,
if you lose even one of those, well guess what,
Memphis would be the eight seed and you go home.
But it gives you a shot. It's really kind of incredible.
As far as the eighth seed in the East, it
is the Orlando Magic. The Washington Wizards are long out
of it, and I repeat why we're even invited back.
But as far as the Lakers in the Bubble, they're
(01:21:08):
shooting has been horrendous and continued tonight. Aside from Lebron,
Anthony Davis was three for fourteen, Kyle Kuzma three or fourteen,
Lakers have lost four of their last five games. Not
liking the way you're talking about my Lakers not liking
that at all. The saga appreciate it. Wow, two hours
are in the books, The Power Hours coming up next.
(01:21:29):
You want to be part of the show, Aaron Underscore Torres,
I'm at stinking genius one Power Hour next here on
Fox Sports Radio. Ah, good evening everyone, as we're coming
to you alive from the Fox Sports Radio studios. It's
brought to you by Geico. Fifteen minutes can save you
(01:21:50):
fifteen per cent a more and car insurance. Visit guy
dot com for a free rate quote. It is the
Power Hour of the show. You want to get in.
He's Aaron Torres. I'm Marny Spaniard. You can reach us
in there and Underscore touris I'm just thinking genius one.
Bernie Frattos, straight out of Vegas, joins us in about
twenty past the hour. Um and by the way, we'll
(01:22:11):
ask Bernie about this, you know, tours. When we got
sports back, it was like, okay, we got baseball, basketball, hockey. Uh.
But I don't feel like sports gambling is caught up
with everything. I don't feel like everybody was rushing back
to the sports books to make I thought everybody's gonna
be rushing. I want to bet on every game. I've
missed sports for four months. I need to gamble. I
(01:22:32):
don't feel it. It seems like it's been quite gambling wise,
you know what I mean or what you think? So huh.
I don't have feeling like that people are rushing out
the gamble. Yeah, it's something we'll have to ask Bernie,
because I remember when this all started. He said they
were setting record handles on NASCAR and on UH on
golf and all these sports and so UFC. So I
(01:22:54):
do wonder if if maybe now there's too many sports
to bet on. If that sounds crazy as it is,
are you gonna go you canceled one of you're going
back out the Vegas trips because your friend couldn't go out.
Are you? Are you still pointing to go out there
anytime soon? Or not? So funny? I was just talking
to our producer Eric Roberts, who you'll forget his name
in an hour when we signed who I was asking him,
I I I think I might try to get out
(01:23:15):
one more time. You know, it's interesting the way that
the Big Ten is going, and we'll get into it
in a minute. I don't think we're getting college football
late August early September. I do think we'll get college football,
which we'll talk about, but I don't think it will
be till mid late September. So maybe sometime late August
or early September. Go see our buddy burn. I know
he owes you a lot, but for me, I'll just
(01:23:37):
go grab a bite to eat with them and do
a few things out there. I just had a great idea. Oh,
go ahead, what do you got? Oh please don't steal
this from me, alright, I probably won't. You're going to
Vegas just sitting at the blackjack table and the chair
next to you is a virtual army. Okay, so there's
a TV screen and I'm sitting next to you, and
(01:23:58):
I say, torres ben fifteen dollars on this hand for me,
and then I control if I want to hit or
I don't want to hit, and you just go ahead
and bed for me. You know. Uh? Well, so is
this like a play on the virtual fans? Is that
what we're doing here? If we're gonna do virtual fans,
why not virtual gambling. I think it's a great idea.
I could just say, hey, um, here's my credit card number.
(01:24:20):
I'll take dollars. Put the chips in front of me,
let the deal or take as much as I want to,
say I want fifty dollars on this bed, or or
ten dollars I could bet virtually that could be the
way of the future. Look at that, Think about that
for a second. I feel like there could be some
compromising uh there. But see, here's the thing. I wouldn't
necessarily be opposed to it. But my only issue is
(01:24:42):
that I know how you play black check, and it's
really boring, and you can't I don't have to. Yeah,
you don't hit after twelve. It's born. No, I don't bust.
Is what happens. I I give myself a chance to win.
You don't bust. You like to bust and go, oh sorry,
I sure do eighteen Hit me, hit me? You know
that's how you play. If if you were sitting at
(01:25:03):
third base and you hit on sixteen or seventeen while
the dealer had a six, I choke you out. Do
you want you to know that you choke me out
for what? I choke you out and get you off
the table because you were afraid I bust. No, because
you're you're destroying the table. You can't You can't take
the star away from you, can't take the bus card
away from the dealer. What's wrong with you? You know?
(01:25:25):
You look? You know somebody don't you look somebody doesn't
punch you in the face then something like that. I
told you this story. I know I've said it on
this show before, but my sister got married right near
Foxwoods Casino and which is in Connecticut, huge casino. I
think it is the biggest casino in the world where
it was for a time, and um, we all stayed
at Foxwoods. And so I wasn't a black jack player
(01:25:46):
at the time and I'm still not really, but my
cousins like, let's go play some black check. There's dollar
black jack. I'll teach you how to play blah by
this and that, and so I was just sitting there
and you know, I mean, I get the concepts of
how to play black jack, and you know, but I'm like,
it's dollar jack, so who cares? And you know, I'd
be on like eighteen or seven. I'd be like, I
feel hot, hit me, and the people at the table
(01:26:08):
would get so bro, You're storing up the whole deck
for all of us, And I'm like, I'm like, bro,
it's dollar blackjack. Here, here's a dollar chip. Go get
yourself a bag of Dorito's Calm. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't
make any friends that black jack. Bro, is what you are?
I am? Yeah, you're a Corona broma black I would
elbow you in the throat if you did that to me.
That's you can't do you then don't play black jack.
(01:26:30):
I don't need you to play at the same dollar
blackjack table. Who plays at a dollar black That's what
I'm saying. Who plays who's plays at allarift cents black
jack table? What's wrong with unless you're Unless you're there
to have a good time, you should not be playing.
If you're there to break the casino at the dollar
blackjack table, you need to reevaluate your life or go
read a book or watch a YouTube video on strategy.
(01:26:51):
I'm there to have fun and have a good time,
and I want to hit on eighteen sometimes. Arn'tie, you've
never been the Vegas unless you've been the Vegas with me,
I just want to I just want you to know that, Okay.
Is that why they don't allow you back? Or what's
that's that's why they don't I've been banned. He doesn't
get us a suite. That's why. That's the reason. Huh,
that's the reason why Bernie Frattle coming up at twenty
(01:27:12):
past the hour, you want to get an air It
underscore Tours. I'm it stick of genius when we started
the show about two hours plus ago. Uh, talking about
college football. Now, of course Tour has made fun of
what I said, the MAC is postponed football. Now, that's
not what I made funny you I I because you
started talking about the Meak and the Swack and the
Big Sky, and I just I just did. I did
(01:27:32):
ask you what was your favorite moment of Big Sky
football last year? Because I there were so many great
ones that I can't remember all of them. You know
What's well, just since we're on that right now, don't
you think you would watch more of all those conferences,
the Ivy, the Meak, the Patriot, the Big Sky, the Swack,
the see A if we did have spring football just
(01:27:53):
for those type of conferences and the bigger conferences would
play in the fall. Or is that just unrealistic to
even think about doing some thing like that. You know,
I'll say this, I feel like it's easy to say, yeah,
I would watch more, but I didn't. I didn't watch
the XFL, I didn't watch the a F. I don't
know why I would suddenly watch football that involves teams
(01:28:15):
I don't know about, players I don't know about. Now
I will say, I will say if if it's college
football where we have fans in the stands and it
feels like college football, because I'll flip on a MAC
game or a small school game during the college football season.
So maybe if there was fans in the stands and
it felt like college football would be one thing. But
I would like to say that I would definitively, but
(01:28:37):
I don't know if I would or not. Can I
say that to you? First of all, I think college
basketball conference tournaments at the end, for the automatic bit
is the best thing we have going um, But can't
I say I don't watch the slack Alabama, A and
M or whoever. These teams are insignificant. Yet you're not
only you watching, you're rooting for teams like that when
(01:28:58):
it comes to the first out of the tournament, you're
actually poland for them. Aaron, you know, it's funny. I
actually know somebody who coaches at Alabama and so I'll
tell him that he got to shut out on the show.
But I mean, you're not only you're watching those games,
you're rooting for them, but yet in football you're like, well, teams,
we don't watching teams, we don't care, you know. Yeah,
I mean, but in college football. And this is kind
(01:29:19):
of off topic, and we'll get back on topic, but
but don't you kind of when Central Florida makes a
bowl game against the big team or Houston or whomever,
don't you don't you for those teams? Yes, you do,
but it doesn't have the same field as the n
c Double A Tournament. There's no doubt it doesn't. I
want to get back to the task at hand. What
did you make of Trevor Lawrence and all those guys
tweeting out today? For people didn't see it, Trevor Lawrence
(01:29:40):
basically tweeted out, we want to play and for the
number one player in America, the guy who could sit
out all of this season, and I think he would
still be the number one pick. You could argue maybe two, three, four,
he'd be a top five pick, unquestionably. What do you
make of that? Um? First of all, I think it's good,
so solidarity that he does want to play, and I
(01:30:00):
think it's good for the image. Though, be careful what
you tweet out, because I'm not so sure. If I'm
in his position, you take everything in the consideration. Do
you still want to play? And I'm not saying this
is going to happen. What suppose they do cancel and
say we'll play it in the spring. Well, he can't
do that. That's that's ah, you know, that's a deal breaker.
(01:30:21):
He can't do that still be the number one pick
and get ready for a football season. So I don't
blame him if he said I'm gonna go in and
sit out the season, or suppose um it turned into
a five or six game season, he says, that's not
worth it for me. Or suppose it's just the SEC
and a couple of other conferences, or the the a
CEC and a couple of other conferences. He may say, no,
(01:30:41):
that's not worth it for me either. So it feels
good like he wants to say we want to play,
but I'm not so sure he will get on the
football field if, if, if, anything like that happened. Yeah,
it reminds me of remember when Nick Saban said I
will not leave the Miami Dolphins to coach Alabama and
then he took the Alabama him. Of course you remember
your Dolphins fan. Um that it is interesting, right, and
(01:31:04):
I give him credit. And Justin Fields, the Ohio State quarterback,
said the same thing this week is that he will
he is planning on playing this year. He is not
leaving the team. I'm with you, though, Arnie. The thing
he's not gonna play it on being with the team
on the Big Ten. If the Big Tenson forget about it,
he's out of their fat. But and you can't blame him.
But again, things change every week we come on the show, Aaron,
(01:31:25):
we're changing our mind about someday because of this coronavirus
keeps changing our mind about something. Yeah, no, and and listen,
I still think that there's a lot of moving shaken
left to do with the college football season. But what
I will say is this is I want to get
one thing clear. The Big Ten. The leadership this week
was embarrassing because to put out a full schedule on
(01:31:47):
Wednesday with games starting September five, and then to three
days later Saturday. You could say, Arnie, you could say
they're not gonna play. They are gonna play. Your opinion
is your opinion. I respected, But to put out a
full schedule on Wednesday and then for nothing to happen,
and then you you slow down workouts, you basically put
the season on a pause on Saturday. That's embarrassing. I
(01:32:10):
don't get why they're not pushing back the start of
the season, why they said they want to start September five.
I think it's a mistake, and I think the pr
out of the Big Ten has looked really, really really bad.
Agree with you, it's embarrassing, But not very many people
are hitting on that point. It's more about will there
be football, will the Big Ten fall in line, or
are they going to cancel their season. I don't think
anybody's really kind of being critical in that situation on them,
(01:32:33):
you know, in terms of what in terms of you know,
being a bad look of them releasing the schedule, you know,
I think they're just worried about if there's going to
be a season. I agree with you, it's embarrassing, but
I don't think anybody else is really harping on that.
I guess that is what I'm saying, Yeah, because they're
not smart like your boys. Torez No I think it's
a real thing. And you know, my whole thing is
(01:32:53):
it was so interesting to me when they put out
this because the SEC two weeks ago or last week,
I guess it was said we're not playing until September
twenty six. Then I think that caught a lot of
people off guard because of the such a late start,
and what the SEC was basically saying was we want
to see how the NFL handles things, how Major League
Baseball handles things, and we want to give ourselves as
(01:33:15):
much time to get this right as possible. So the
Big ten to then, after the the SEC already says
we're not playing until September twenty six, to come out
and say we're starting our season three weeks earlier. It
didn't make sense then. It doesn't make sense now. And
when we talk about a guy like Justin Fields potentially
opting out of the season, that's where the issue could
(01:33:35):
come in, because if I'm Justin Fields, maybe he doesn't
mind playing if he knows what the plan is. But
when you decide, oh, we're gonna play September five, No,
we're gonna play September. Oh, we're gonna push back the
start of the practice, Oh, we're gonna delay practice. You
can't put on pads. We need definitive decisions to give
these kids the best options and information, and the Big
(01:33:55):
ten is not providing them for their players right now,
all right, what's going on with the Big ten? Big?
Because what happens if they do, say, Aaron, forget about it,
We're going to go ahead and shut out in the season.
You can't play uh college football having four or the
power of conferences of the power of five play well,
but then not take away a lot of the season
(01:34:16):
or no. Well, I think that the SEC would sit
there and say, you know what, if that's the decision
that you're making, that's fine, We're going forward and we're
pushing forward. And what I would be interested in, Arnie,
is this, if the Big ten came out, Let's just say, hypothetically, right,
the Big ten came out and said we're gonna push
back to the spring, which I think is feasible. I
think that could happen. And what if the SEC just said,
(01:34:36):
you know, we're not pushing back to spring, we're playing.
Doesn't that kind of push the Big ten's hand, Because
if the SEC plays and they can pull it off
right one, you just look bad too. And I think
this is a bigger issue. Imagine, and I think this
could actually happen the SEC and say the Big twelve
in the a SEC decide we're starting in September. Maybe
(01:34:58):
not September one, but we'll start by the end of September,
and they have a playoff and they're crowning a champion
in the Big Tennis and we're not even gonna play
until January. And the the SEC and all these other
conferences are able to pull off a full season. The
Big Ten looks weak and pathetic at that point, don't
they They do unless they turn out to be right. Um,
Michigan isn't their president or their athletic director, like um
(01:35:21):
infectious disease expert, So you know, something like That's got
me a little concerned that, you know, maybe they know
something that we don't know. But if they turn out
to be wrong, you're right, that's going to make the
Big Ten look weak and certainly lose out on a
lot of money. That that's for damn sure. Look at
the financial ramifications of not having a college football season. Um,
(01:35:42):
it's devastating, it'll be it'll be interesting, but I'm just
not sold that if the Big ten wants to cower
in the corner, and maybe it ends up being the
right decision. I'm not sold that the SEC is gonna
make that decision immediately. I think they're planning to push
forward and hopefully get a game on, get games on
the field. September. Coming up that straight out of Vegas,
our buddy Bernie Fratto stuffs some by how's Vegas doing?
(01:36:05):
How the bets doing? Were people betting on all that?

I don't know. I haven't noticed it, but I tend
just not to listen. When you start talking something Howard's third,
I'm like shock, shock now, so you're more like the
what is it? Robin Quivers? I would call my up.
More of the Howard Stern would be better. You're like
the what's his name? Already? Black Aready oh Arty? Whoever? Yeah,
(01:37:09):
he's a nut, that guy. Let's let's get to our guest.
He joins us. Already, Lyne, he joins us. Every Saturday
comes up at the top of the hour, straight out
of Vegas. It's our buddy, Bertie, freddo Bertie. Just just
one question. I don't even know if you get answered.
What happens if there was no college football? How would
they affect the sports books in Vegas when the NFL
(01:37:30):
moved some games this Saturday? And how much money would
you guys be missing out if there was no college football? Well,
that would remain to be seen because the college football
handle is always very significant. But what we're finding I've
been listening to the show, and the handle right now
is extremely strong in Las Vegas with all the sports
(01:37:50):
being played Baseball, basketball, the NHL, and even specifically the
p g A right now, golf betting is a fever
any time in the past. Let me give you an example.
The p g A is typically it typically ranks last
of the four majors when it comes to the size
of the handle, the Masters is always the largest. This year,
(01:38:13):
for the first time ever, the PGA handle is equal to,
if not slightly greater than the Masters for the first time.
So golf betting is not only an all time high,
it's at an all time high by a mile. And
betting is at an all time Part of the reason
is the books have done such a great job, and
this is kind of a roundabout way of answering your
(01:38:35):
college football question any because they find creative, clever ways
to offer more products. For instance, a couple of the
interesting props for the p g A. You could have
bet Webb Simpson to miss the cut and got plus
two seventy. Why will he ranks a hundred and six
and driving distance? He had a new cabby this week
or catty excuse me, and he he might have had
(01:38:57):
a new cabby for all I know. For all I know,
I don't know, maybe went to the hoover. Damn, I
don't know. The bottom line is he wasn't He's not
his game, aren't really suited to this course. But lone behold,
he made the cut and currently tied for one. An
English go offer by the name of Harris English tied
for thirty four right now. If he makes it into
the top twenty, you could have got him at plus
four hundred. Now why do I bring up his name.
(01:39:18):
He's one of the players on the tour who had COVID.
So there are lots of ways to bet this, and
they handle the for the top four favorites, they have
forty percent of the handle and right now only brooks Kepka,
who's going for his three, is tied for fourth. By
the way, if you're feeling saucy, you can get Tiger
Woods at a hundred to one tomorrow. He's currently tied
(01:39:41):
for fifty nine and he's about eleven strokes back. By
the way, Burne, I actually want to stay on the
college football line of questioning for people who don't know,
before you became the Vegas guy, you spend a big time,
a big chunk of your career in Michigan, in Big
ten country. What do you make of the news this week?
And I think that you kind of believe that maybe
there's some people at Michigan. Arnie Reference did last segment
(01:40:05):
Michigan the presidents and uh some sort of infectious disease
expert or something, and he may be one of the
people that's really pushing the Big Ten to to not
play football. Very true. I'm concerned. Now. I'm not going
to make any predictions, but the president of the University
of Michigan, Mark Schlissel, has a background in bioscience, specifically viruses,
(01:40:25):
and he wields a lot of power. I think he has.
You don't reel a lot of power either. At the
behest of of the athletic directors. The conference has been
meeting the last couple of days and the first thing
decided was to back up at least two weeks padded practices. Interesting,
but they met for a lengthy time today and there
(01:40:46):
was some great fear that they might cancel the season.
Where they came out of that meeting was they're going
to continue to watch things day to day, whatever that means,
and they'll make the decision. It's a fluid situation. I'm
gonna make a bowl of prediction that even if the
Big Ten opts out, which I don't believe they will,
but let's just say they do. I would. I'll be
shocked if the SEC still doesn't play the big twelve
(01:41:07):
S deal doesn't play in the SEC stills. And this
is not unprecedented, guys. If you get a minute, and
I talked about this on my show a month ago.
This has happened in the ninety three college football season
during the war. Due to things like lack of gasoline
enabled body men and all kinds of stuff, there were
teams from major conferences, including Alabama, including Michigan State that
(01:41:29):
opted out right and left. Notre Dame won the national
championship that year. I don't know how many games they played,
but by the time Penn State played their first game,
he had already played their fourth game. It was completely disjointed.
And for you creating Blue Jay fans, that was the
last year they had college football. They opted out and
have never played college football since. So they found a
way to play college football in ninety three. They can
(01:41:51):
find a way to do it now. One of the
things that bothers me, and I'm not going to diminish
this illness and I'm not gonna make light of it,
but these these schools, these professional teams have proven they
have got the finest and athletic and medical care probably
anywhere in society. A timing Less sort of joked about this,
so a few weeks ago he said, you know, these
(01:42:12):
days every team has three doctors, five team trainers, and
six team attendants. Back in the day, we had one
team trainer and only had it was a bottle of
rubbing alcohol, which he's usually drank by the seventh inning.
Bottom line is now the care for these kids is unbelievable.
So I hope they finally come to a consensus and say, look,
if you want to play, play, If you don't want
(01:42:34):
to play, you can stay home, you can opt out,
you don't lose your scholarship, and let's go from there.
But to make these blanket decisions, I don't want them
to look back next year and say this could have
been avoided and have a college football season obliterated. Bernie,
NBA bubble. What have we learned about the NBA bubble
so far with these first five or six games. Well,
I had surmised a few weeks back when we were
(01:42:57):
talking that the games would be unders because no fans
in the stands, no pressure on the referees, and less files, etcetera. Etcetera.
Turns out a lot of the games are flying over
and to the to the tune of about so it's
not really a significant statistic or significant edge. But what
we are observing is the players are playing free and open.
(01:43:19):
There's no pressure, there's they're not playing in front of
home fans who are barking at him. Ben Simmons admitted
that every time he's got the ball in his hands,
the uh, the Philly fans are yelling at him to
take a three. And without any home court advantage and
anybody having to travel, everybody seems fresh. They're playing hard,
and they're playing wide open without a lot of distraction. Frankly,
(01:43:40):
so right now, I think what you're seeing is everybody
kind of finding their sea legs. I do believe in
the playoffs start, it's gonna flip back under. I'll tell
you what. The Lakers better find some offense though, because
they don't look good and we've already had one straight
out of Vegas prediction come true. That there's the Lakers
would would not win more than five and a half
games in the eight game season. Now they had their
fourth law us. So if you had that bet, you cashed.
(01:44:02):
Burn obviously you'd be in in Vegas big news this
week as the Raiders officially won't have any fans in
the stands. What was the reaction there, Well, fans understood it.
Mark Davis made a command decision. If you're guys, recall
about three weeks ago, the owners had a Zoom meeting
and they voted all to whether or not in this time.
At this time they were hoping to steal half fans
(01:44:23):
as to whether they would be willing to sacrifice the
first eight rows of their stadium for advertising dollars. Every
owner voted yes except Mark Davis. He said, no, I'm
going to protect my fans. They pay a ton of
money for these p s a s for these luxury
boxes from these premium seats. Not gonna happen. Then, when
the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins and some of
(01:44:43):
the other organizations submitted their models for reduced fans, Mark
Davis made a statement, it's going to be all or none.
We're not going to have a situation where we have
a lottery where you're hoping to see the New Orleans
game in the Tampa Bay game and you get stuck
with the Charger game. I'm not gonna piss off half
my fans just to appe. He's a few other ones.
It's all or none. It's been very well received. No
(01:45:04):
one's happy about the decision, but no one's criticizing it.
They are kind of applauding his decisiveness. If you're a
Raider season ticket holder, you're pushed one or you can
get a refund. And I think everybody realizes we are
sort of all in this together. So although we made
the decision, and if you see the stadium, when you
guys come out, you know what. I will put you
up in a hotel room. I think dinner. You realize, guys,
(01:45:28):
you're sweet, sweet fine. I'm even gonna get your bed
with magic fingers. How's that bottom line is? Look? You
you realize your show. He's heard by about three Banion
listeners in a hundred and fifty six countries and languages,
so we've got a lot of witnesses out there right,
sometimes speaking of foreign language. But I will put you
(01:45:51):
up in a suite and I'll buy you both dinner.
Put me to the test, Wow, I will have to
try to get out there pretty good. I may take
you up on that last thing. I probably let you go. Um,
tell Torres what happens when somebody's sitting at third base
and they hit on twelve and the dealer's got a
six showing and they busted, they take the buzz card.
(01:46:11):
Tell him what happens to a person that does something
like that. Well, first of all, it depends what casinari,
and it depends what time in night it's, and it
depends if there's alcohol involved. Because I've been a blackjack
player for three decades and that's actually kind of a myth.
It's kind of a myth. But you listen, you don't. Well,
I get it. It's easy to, you know, find fault
(01:46:32):
with other black jack players when they do stupid things. Look,
I was sitting next to a guy once to hit
a seventeen, hit a four, he got a twenty one.
He's the smartest care in the world. Right, I'm telling you,
what are you gonna do, especially if there's an alcohol
involved and it's late at night and you're you're one
of the downtown casinos. Yeah, there you go. Bertie Fratto's
Trade out of Vegas coming up at the top of
(01:46:52):
the hour. Will be listening. Bertie looking forward to it.
Thanks guys. Everybody, All right, let's check in with the sagas.
What's trending? One final time? What's going on out there?
To se Dustin Johnson leads by one stroke at the
p g A Championship after his third round sixty five
in San Francisco Today. Brooks Koepka is two back, Jason
Day three shots back, tied for seventh place with five
(01:47:14):
other golfers, including Bryson de Shambo shot sixty six. Rory
McElroy's at even par. Phil Nicholson won over Tiger Wood
shot seventy two. Again, He's two over par, tied for
fifty ninth place. Jordan's Beef is seven over after a
seventy six today. Did you know that right now Geico
is offering an extra fiftcent credit on car, motorcycle and
RV policies. That's on top of what Geico could already
(01:47:36):
save you. So what are you waiting for? Visit Geiko

Dallas in overtime beat Milwaukee Luca don Sitch with a
triple double including nineteen assists and only two turnovers for
Milwaukee thirty four points each for Janice Attendant Coompo and
Brook Lopez Honest by the Way, a finalist officially named
today for m v P and for Defensive Player of
(01:47:57):
the Year this year also nominated well not nominated the
votes in a finalist. One of the three finalists is
Lebron James for m v P and Anthony Davis a
finalist for Defensive Player of the Year. Finalists for most
Improved Luka Donstage Denver and double overtime edged Utah Jamal
Murray at twenty three points in his first game in
the Bubble after the tight hamstring so his first game
(01:48:18):
since March. Indiana beat the Lakers tonight one sixteen one eleven.
LA has lost four of five. T J Warren thirty
nine points as the Pacers go to four and one
in the Bubble. Phoenix is five and oh in the
Orlando Bubble. Devin Booker thirty five points in a win
over Miami. Booker from three point range was o for seven,
but on two pointers he was fifteen of nineteen from
(01:48:40):
the floor. Booker was six assists just one turnover, and
today the Clippers beat Portland seventeen. Kawhi Leonard did not
play and Paul George was rested for the last five minutes.
He had twenty one points. L A outscored him late
twelve to two. Damian Lillard missed too late free throws
and a three point try infect he was from three
point range two for ten for Lillard's twenty two points.
(01:49:02):
The play in series to decide the number eight seed
will be next weekend. In the NHL round robin victories
for Vegas in overtime, Vegas are in the top seed
in the West, so Colorado, whom they beat, will be
the number two seed in the West for the playoffs.
Philadelphia tonight won four one over Tampa Bay, so Philly
gets the one seed in the East. The loser, Tampa
Bay gets the two seed. The matt Conference postponed all
(01:49:23):
of its college fall sports, including football. Kevin Harvick won
the NASCAR Race at Michigan. Minnesota Vikings linebacker Cameron Smith
is out for the year. He says he needs heart
surgery to fix the valve he was born with. Doctors
found the condition in his COVID nineteen follow up exam.
Smith from USC says he has a severely enlarged heart.
(01:49:44):
In baseball, the Yankees split a double header at Tampa Bay,
Giancarlos Stanton suffered a tight hamstring left one of the
games could go on the injured list. Detroit hit four
homers in the first inning, wound up winning eleven five
at Pittsburgh Baltimore with five runs in the eighth on
three home runs, won five three. At Washington, Texas shut
out the Angels to nothing each team which just four hits.
(01:50:05):
Seattle had only one hit, lost at home five nothing
to Colorado. The Mariners went one for twenty seven at
the plate. San Francisco holds on five four over the
Dodgers in l a winning picture. Johnny Quato had a
no hitter until the bottom of the sixth sitting and
the Cardinals next series starting Monday, will likely be postponed.
According to the Athletic, the team will not meet together
for at least three to five days, so work out
(01:50:27):
on your own, guys. Chicago at St. Louis that was
due to be Cubs Cardinals this weekend. That series was
already postponed after two additional positive virus tests yesterday by
Cardinals players, so that makes it nine total Cardinals players
positive plus seven staffers. St. Louis hasn't played a game
in over a week. Cardinals were supposed to host the
Pirates starting Monday, and now multiple reports said tonight that
(01:50:50):
the Pirates flight to St. Louis has been canceled. They
were due to leave for their tomorrow night. This was
the thirteenth straight days football. Now, I'm sure they have
no problems. This was the thirteenth straight day MLB has
had at least one game postponed due to positive virus tests.
Back to you all right, thanks to Sega. Welcome back
to the Fox Sports radio studios. It's front to you
(01:51:11):
by Geico. It's easy to say fifteen percent of more
in corn insurance with Geico. All you have to do
is go to Geico dot com or give them a
call one eight hundred nine four seven auto. The only
hard part figuring out which way is easier. Uh. You
told me if it was a sixty game Major League
Baseball season, we were gonna get into every game. It's
gonna be great. Sixty games. It feels like forty games
(01:51:33):
too much. People are not hanging on every pitch where.
Where's everybody all excited about the ten games in? I
don't feel the excitement there, Torres. Well, two things one.
I think part of it is they waited too long,
and the NBA came back, and golf came back, and
NASCAR's back. I mean, there's so much there's so much competition.
Enough they've been back July fourth. You start July fourth,
(01:51:55):
it feels like American and apple pie and fireworks and baseball.
But they waited until the week before before the NBA,
and so they set a record opening night, and then
it has been downhill since. Really quick, aren't you? I
didn't want to ask you, uh to say your reference
the fact that the Cardinals are probably gonna have to
cancel another series and they're gonna play a bunch of
seven inning games, and it kind of plays into the
(01:52:16):
college football stuff as well. Do you think if if MLB,
if certain teams don't get to sixty and these this
team only played fifty two or whatever and then kind
of transition to college football, if if we don't get
say the Big Ten playing, do you think championships are
tainted this year? Do you just think that's part of
the deal. Well, the Cardinals are two and three, so
(01:52:37):
I mean, the only way it would be tainted is
if you're telling me somehow we put them into the playoffs. Uh,
and then they went ahead and won a World Series.
So no, I don't think it's gonna be tainted, though
I am gonna be curious to see what they're going
to do. And they said they're gonna do it on
win percentage or what your percentages. I say, if you're
two games short, you get a half a win and
a half of loss, and you worked that up until
(01:52:57):
you make up all the games out there. To me,
that might be the fairest way, even though a team
is sub five hundred or above five hundred. But I
mean you've got some teams with fifteen games in and
then I mean, my goodness, you've got the Marliners who've
only played nine, the Cardinals have played five, and the
Phillies have played eight. It's it's just a mischem. It's
it's it's a big mess out there. I mean, they're
(01:53:21):
gonna play seven inning games and that kind of give
them the benefit. Then that save them on arms the
rest of the way. The whole thing is just kind
of screwing. Yeah. I just think that it's funny. You
and I I remember talking about this even back in April,
about when sports come back. It's gonna be a new norm.
I don't think we coined the term new norm yet,
but that things were gonna be different, and we just
had to be kind of okay with it. And so
(01:53:42):
to me, as weird as it sounds, if we do
go by win percentages, I have no problem. If the
Cardinals only get in fifty two games and twenty of
them are seven innings. I just think for this one year,
hopefully it's only one year, we just have to proceed
and move forward. And if things are gonna be quirk key,
things are gonna be quirky, you see. But that's one
thing we didn't know. We thought when the sixty games
(01:54:04):
we're going to start, that all the teams were gonna
play sixty games. And we said, oh, if there's going
to be a coronavirus outbreak, then they're gonna shut down
the whole thing. If one team gets it, you're gonna
shut down the whole league. I never thought you thought
they were just gonna shut down the team like they
didn't Major League Soccer or something like that. I just thought, listen,
I mean, the commissioners in the powers that be have
(01:54:24):
been saying, look, we're gonna get positive tests and we
have to soldier through it. Now, I'll be honest. Did
I think teams would miss a week to ten days
at a time? That part I did not expect. Um,
But I I always thought teams would miss games and
you'd have to figure out a way to make them up.
And you know, it's not my job to figure out
how to do it, but that you would have seven
inning games. That's ridiculous, you know, yeah, But I to me,
(01:54:47):
it's you know, it's just it's part of what we're doing.
And I will say I give MLB a lot of
credit because it would have been so easy, so much
bad pr these few teams can't get on the field.
It would have been so e You say, oh, it's inevitable,
everyone's gonna catch this virus. Nobody's gonna be able to play.
But to your point, most of these teams have been
able to soldier on and figure out a way. I
(01:55:09):
feel bad, as Bernie said a minute ago, we're not
under selling how serious this virus is, and we want
everybody on the Marlins and the Cardinals to be safe.
But I can Major League Baseball credit for pushing forward
with all this. And by the way, I asked the
saga earlier. Would you rather been deryck Holland, who gave
up four home runs on eleven pitches, or Jose Altuve
who had three errors in one inning. I think I'd
(01:55:32):
rather have the three errors in one inning the four
home runs. That that seems just crazy. You know, that's insane. Yeah,
I think uh, I think I'd probably agree with you
on that one. By the way, I remember one game vividly, um,
when I was playing travel baseball when I was about
thirteen years old. I had three errors in one inning.
It was that was good. That was the crazy part.
(01:55:55):
But it was really funny because I vividly remember our
coach like we were playing one of the best teams
in our division or whatever, and guys were just as
talented as them, and if we just play a clean game,
we can hang with them. And there's your boy tores
over a third base, three errors in the first inning,
and uh yeah, it wasn't my best day. I got
a little nervous that Jock couldn't handle the pressure out there.
(01:56:15):
My friends, Well, you know, the yips are a real thing.
And once you make that first one, you know, yeah, yeah,
you know, right after the big pep talk from the coach.
We're gonna do this, We're gonna take him down. We're
gonna show him who's number one, and then tours ruin
it for everybody, and then your career was over after that.
I'm assuming I played through the end of high school.
I was pretty good. That was pretty good good hitter,
So so Fielder. Even if you do ask yourself, you're
(01:56:37):
pretty good. Even if I do ask myself, what movie
is that from? That? I've never seen? Is that from
Caddy Shack? I'm sorry, I've never seen you. Just you're
just not a movie guy. You want to get in
real simple eron underscore tours, I've been stinking g Just
one will finish out. Let's give some picks for the
games tomorrow that's coming up next. Right here on Fox
Sports are Radio looking like the Fox Sports Radio studios.
(01:57:03):
The segment brought to you by Geico. By the way,
how many shows are you doing? Taures, We're doing one,
now you're doing one On Twitter? What do you already?
Was the one that said no one was watching? Who
are you answering on that? I'm answering whoever said that?
Somebody was complaining? Oh, tourists doesn't know that the MLB
out rated the NBA. You're the one that said nobody
(01:57:26):
was watching baseball. No, I didn't say nobody was watching.
I just said I'm not getting that excitement where you
guys told me every game means everything. It's it's a
sixty game sprint. You got me all pumped up, and
here we are fifteen games in, and it's because you're
a Mets fan. None of the games matter. Your team's eliminated. Somehow,
they're letting twenty four teams into the playoffs and your
(01:57:46):
your team's one of three that's not getting in. Don't
be mad at me. It's like when you're open twenty
three and a half hours a day. Yeah what, um,
You don't get that, dude, No, we we jerk jerk.
Somebody tweeted in that the Adam Silver is gonna let
the Nicks into the bubble so that the Pelicans can
make the playoffs. Why are all your teams so bad? Arnie?
(01:58:09):
I don't get it. I don't either. I don't want
to discuss that right now. Let's get to our picks.
Give me a little music, put us in the mood,
because we got a lot to get to and believe
it or not, I want to start with a little
NHL action because the Leaves are playing Columbus. Who heard
us reference this earlier. The Leaves blew a three goal
lead in Game three to lose, only to bounce back
(01:58:31):
by uh Columbus blowing a three goal lead in the
last five minutes. Now it's two games apiece. I'm gonna
take the Leaves over Columbus. But usually the choking is
done by the Leaves. Maybe not this time around. Maybe
they get rid of the demons. I like Toronto in
this one. Yeah, by the way, I looked that up
the um The Maple Leafs were up four to one
(01:58:54):
with five minutes left in a game. They gave up
three games seven. By the way, they gave up three goals. Yeah,
it was the Bruins. They three goals in the final
five minutes to to lose it and then to go
to overtime. They lost it overtime. First picked by your
boy Torres. For tomorrow, we're gonna go to We'll start
with golf because I'm telling you this right now, Arnie's
(01:59:15):
boy Brooks Kepka. You get mistaken for Brooks kept all
the time. I don't know if he knows big, strong hands. Okay,
maybe uh, he's winning this thing. He wins every major.
He doesn't even try in any tournament that's not a major.
But I believe he's one shot off the lead going
into tomorrow. He's winning the p g A Championship. Arnie's
boy Brooks kepka Um. I just want to make sure
(01:59:38):
I'm reading this correct way, because I didn't Bernie say
he was gonna fly us out the Vegas and give
us a sweet next time we want to go out there.
He did say that. Yeah, why do I see Clippers
pick against Brooklyn. It can't be a pick. Then I
see a minus third team. Yeah, maybe that line hasn't
open it. There's no way it can be a pick
(01:59:59):
because if it's a pick them, I'm going to steal
your car, sell it and at discounted price, and go
out to Vegas and put the whole thing on the Clippers.
You're gonna fly to l A, steal my car, sell it,
and I get a lot of money for your car.
It'd probably just be cheaper to fly to Vegas, and
it would also be way less hassle and potential risk
of arrest. So I would just go with flat of Vegas.
(02:00:22):
But if you want to steal my car, you know,
I'm gonna take the Clippers if it's a pick them.
But for some reason, I think it's gonna be minus
third team. I'm still gonna go ahead and take the Clippers.
I do like the Rockets tomorrow lay in four and
a half against Sacramento. That seems like a steel. Why
am I not in Vegas betting all this? And I
love Portland way in two and a half against Philadelphia
(02:00:42):
with no Simmons. That's a steel. I mean, I want
to steal everything that Torres has and put it on
Portland in that game. That that's that's a stemy go
out to Vegas after the show's over. Well you will.
You stole the pick right out of my mouth. I'm
with you on Portland's man. They lose a game today
that they probably should have won. They had it in
(02:01:03):
complete control, as you referenced, Damian Lillard miss some clutch
free throws late. I think they bounce back no Ben Simmons,
I think they win that one convincingly. I'm stunned that
the point spread is solo on that one. Oh that
that's an absolute bargain there. You have our picks. Do
with them as you please remember now. Uh, they are
no longer for entertainment purposes only because there are a
