Arnie Span, you're on a busy Saturday night. How you
doing tonight, Torres? I'll be honest just hearing that intro
(00:24):
Fox Football Saturday. Arenie. I know you hate football, your
Corona bro, and you probably said sat in your bunker
and watch tennis all day. But the rest of us
are fired up for football, Arnie Span. Here. You know
you allowed me to go to the buffet this time around.
And I went to the buffet. Yes, I I got
something to eat. Even though it was salad, vegetables, fruit,
(00:47):
you still didn't give me any of the good spits. Fight.
I didn't get that yet. That's a that's a that's
a t bone. Stay. Oh, that's not stake. Stop it.
That's like a carrot in a vegetable, that in a salad.
Draw with you. No, that is the that is the
cherry on top of an awesome Sunday because we got
(01:08):
a double digit dog the listen, there was a team
called the Raging Cajuns that upset a top twenty five
team today. Can you just not enjoy life, Arty Spaniard?
I I enjoyed it. I liked it. Um, just a
couple of before we get into the games. By the way,
good evening everyone, of course Fox Sports Radio. It is
a busy Saturday night. If you do want to be
part of the show. Aaron underscore tourism in stinking genius one.
(01:32):
By the way, Pete feu Tech will join us in
about fifteen twenty minutes from that, we'll get the latest
one the Big Tent. I feel like I'm asking him
the same question every week for the last three months,
and we could have just put it on tape and
I could have just rolled it back every time we
have a month, So we'll talk to Pete. Obviously, the
saga will stop on by Bernie Fraddling the Power hour
of the show as we go straight off the Vegas
(01:52):
and man, do we want picks? All that coming up
on a busy show overall, though, look, um, first things first,
on college football, how was the college football viewing with
the lack of fans, the lack of kind of big matchups.
How did you overall enjoy your your college football Saturday?
So I enjoyed it, Arnie, And I'll be honest, is
(02:13):
you know you and I filled in for Jason Smith
and his best friend Mike Harmon on Monday, and we
were watching that b y U Navy game and that
was a game without any fans in the stands at all.
And I was a little afraid because b y you
got up big in that game and the place was
just a ghost town for the rest of the game.
I thought today, Notre Dame having whatever it was about
(02:36):
twenty is percent capacity, Florida State, although they did not
play well, had twenty is percent capacity. I don't think
that it hurt the on the field, even on the
TV product, as much as I thought it would. Um
and I'm just grateful to have football back. But I
it didn't impact it my my viewing experience as much
as I thought it would. You know, maybe people were
(02:57):
like me when I first saw it, and of course
we've seen the last couple of weeks, but you know,
it takes a little while. When I first saw it. Today,
I'm like the two year old screaming, oh god, I
got this. This is horrible. The stakes. I can't take
it anymore. Um. But of course, but as as the
game goes on and you kind of get used to it,
the networks do a pretty good job of not allowing you.
(03:21):
I guess this is the word I will go to
the phrase I'm looking for where you don't get to
see the entire stands, you're really not concentrating on it.
And then when they do show it, I'm not even
sure if they kept it to where they're supposed to.
I'm like, if I could count everyone, it's like there's
more than dead thousand, or more than more than fifty thousand.
But it bothered me at first. But as the game
started going on, and as you mentioned the Notre Dame game,
(03:44):
I got more into the game, more excited about the plays,
and um, it really didn't bother me after that, you know. Yeah,
And it's funny because I'm here in the Fox Sports
radio studios here in l A. We have the Dodgers
Astros game out along with the college football And it's
funny because the first time that I saw major League
baseball in a stadium without fans, I said, this is
(04:05):
gonna be weird, and it has been. It has. It's
been different, for sure, But then you get the virtual fans,
you get the cardboard cutouts, and you just watch night
in and night out and get used to it. And
so that was kind of my experience with college football
today as well. Is if you had told me, you know,
at halftime of that Navy Navy b y U game
(04:26):
the other night, how are you going to feel about
no fans in the stands? I think I even said
it on Jason Smith the other night. Is I think
it's gonna affect college football more than any other sport.
And it may still, but I think as we get
more teams on the field, keep in mind that the
an L s U is gonna be allowed twenty five
thousand fans, Auburn, Georgia, Alabama, They're going to have some fans.
(04:47):
I think as we get those more marquee programs and
the stadiums that are allowing some fans, I think it's
going to enhance the viewer experience overall. But by the way,
if if you were a fan at any game, please
does do whatever let us know. UM, I'm just kind
of curious. How was the experience how was it when
you got inside? Did they take your temperature? How did
(05:08):
you get the ticket? Or you a season ticket? All?
I've got so many questions, I really do. I do
we know who? How we got tickets, and who got
tickets and how they distributed? Are we really not sure
about that? Did you hear that? I don't know if
you heard this on the beginning of the Clemson wake
Forest game, but this kind of cracked me up. They
said that there are not allowed to be more than
fifty people in a gathering in North Carolina. So Wake
(05:30):
Forest allowed fifty parents to come to the game, which
I thought was weird because I think there's more than
fifty people on each sideline in these games. So I
don't know why all of a sudden you're allowing fifty
in the stands. But so I think every place a
little bit different. But that one cracked me up because
I guess Wake Force they gave priority to the parents
of fifth year seniors, and every place a little bit different.
(05:50):
Notre Dame. I don't know if you know this, are
any They're only allowing students in no regular season ticket holders,
which I actually think is pretty smart. You're not that
well it great because the students, um, you know, are
gonna be energetic and full life. But what I think
it is that no one's talking about is you're not
bringing in people from outside the community into the community.
(06:11):
So I think that that's pretty smart. So every place
appears to be a little bit different. But I just
I'm just happy we have games on the field, and
for those that are lucky enough to get in. As
you said, Aarnie, if anybody's listening that was at a game,
we would love to hear from him, you know, Aaron,
and I don't want to be captain obvious. You know,
of course, the home team feeds off the crowd, feeds
off the energy. The uh, what's the words I'm trying
(06:35):
to say. The fact that there was so little energy
from the home team, Um, it really affected the home
team more than I thought I was going through. I
guess that is what I'm gonna say. I I I
thought that, okay, they maybe, um, the better team still wins,
but when you're the home team with a lack of fans,
it really sucked the life out of some of these
home teams where they just didn't get going for a while.
(06:57):
And then of course they picked it up, but it
really it took. It really took its toll on some
of the teams out there. Yeah, it was interesting. I
was watching the North Carolina game early against Syracuse. They
were they were heavy favorites. They struggled early and pulled
away late. And I bring this up because they mentioned
multiple times during the broadcast that the head coach in
North Carolina is Mac Brown telling his players you have
(07:19):
to bring your own energy. He obviously you can't rely
on fans, because I think in North Carolina. North Carolina
is another one. There were no fans in that stadium,
So I think that's gonna be an adjustment for everybody.
And I think I do think much like we've seen
in the NBA with the bubble, I don't think home
field road is gonna be much of an issue, if
at all. Uh maybe in the NFL two with some
of these places that aren't gonna have fans. But I
(07:40):
think in college football, especially because the fans, like you said,
can rev up the home crowd even more, are the
home team even more, and kind of deflate the visiting team,
I think we'll see it, maybe even more in college
football than anywhere else. Now, what about that I know
you're happy to have college football back. I'm happy. Everybody's happy. Look,
(08:01):
everybody's happy to eat when you get off an island
after a month, even if it is vegetable salad and fruit. Um.
But overall, what did you think about the lack of
any of the really big matchups? Yes, there was maybe
one up, so I was watching the raging Cajun like
it was the super Bowl. But other than that, what what? What?
And I actually enjoyed the Texas State game. I don't
know if you saw that one um double overtime. Actually
(08:23):
enjoyed that. But what do you make of the lack
of a really good, big, sexy, elite matchups? So you
know I'm an elite US there there? You are? You
sure when Alabama is not playing l s U you
want nothing to do with college. When I go to
the nightclub, I like to unbutton a couple of buttons
and let the gold chains hang out, you know what
I mean? Like, you know, take it all in, but
go ahead. It's just it must be frustrating for you.
(08:44):
I know you showed up at Studio sixty seven a
few weeks ago. It's been closed for forty years, But
was it one of those numbers. Anyway, Uh yeah, button
up your shirt one and to uh listen, it's gonna
feel weird. And it's funny because even when the SEC
comes back in two weeks, there's no real marquee matchups
(09:04):
that first weekend. So I listen. I wish we could
have figured out a way to play a bigger game
or two early in the season. But Arnie, I think
you have to remember when they were putting these schedules
back together in late July early August, they were worried
about what is what is going to happen in these
early weeks. Could games be canceled? And we've seen a
lot of games canceled, And so I think, uh, the
(09:25):
a C C smartly rather than putting Clemson Notre Dame
this week, they put it towards the back end of
the schedule, just to make sure, Hey, wait a second, now,
let's make sure we can get a game or two
in before we start scheduling marquee games. That would be
my guess is as to why they did that. How
many people who usually love college football sit down, set
themselves down in front of the TV for most of
the day on Saturday, said I'm not doing it today.
(09:48):
I don't have uh. I don't care about North Carolina
Syracuse in New Yarly game. I'll watch a little Notre
Dame Duke and that was actually a pretty decent game.
But I don't care about Georgia Tech, Florida State like
games eight hours along with a couple of the ways. What.
I don't got anything going. I don't think I'm gonna
go ahead and watch it. I bet you know what,
they probably lost half the viewership UM out of all
(10:09):
day of college football today, you know. So I think
that's probably accurate because I did have some people check
in with me throughout the day saying, I just can't
get into this today. And I think it's you know, listen,
we tune in. It's like any sport, right if if
the if if we if if if the NBA started,
I'm just trying to think of an example off top.
If the NFL started with a Thursday night game Jack's Titans,
(10:33):
like we would be fired up, but it's still Jack's Titans.
And so I heard I heard from a lot of
fans that I just said, I can't get into it.
I'm not as excited as I thought. I would be.
And I get that Duke Notre Dame. Listen, you didn't,
you didn't, you didn't sit on your grandpa's lap. Here
in great stories about Duke Notre Dame games from from
back in the day. Same with Clemson, Wake Forest and
all that stuff. So I understand. I do think it's
(10:56):
going to be a build up. I think college football
was strategic in not uh scheduling these games early. It
makes sense. I get it. I wish there were more,
but I do get why they made the decisions that
they did. Are we gonna be like this all year long?
Is it gonna be like? I mean, I'm assuming once
the conference place starts picking up, well, you know, we'll
shift another gear and say, man, this is what we
(11:18):
really wanted. But the lack of the non conference games
and the fact that the Pack twelve isn't playing as
of now, I don't know what's gonna happen in an
hour from now, ask me, ask me in an hour
from now. But it's still obviously doesn't feel the same,
and it won't feel the same too. Maybe we get
like a full house and packed or something like that.
I mean, I think that's fair to say it won't
(11:38):
feel the same. But I I think once we get
those brand names, it will still feel good. And I
think he brought up we had Clemson tonight, notre name.
Yeah no, it's fair but Irish, yeah no. I I
do think, um, until we get more, I mean, listen,
we tune in to watch Alabama and Florida and Georgia
and by the way, Ohio State Michigan who might not
(11:59):
be coming back at all, which is another conversation for
the rest of the show. But I to me, I
don't know when it's gonna feel normal. I don't know
if it will feel normal, but I do think the
SEC coming back will help. And then hopefully and I
know it's something we'll talk about throughout the show. Hopefully
at some point here in the next month, we do
get back those big ten teams. You want to jump
(12:20):
in aeron underscore tours. I'm in stinking genius one. Um,
just one game off the bat where you're all in
the one game where there was a game you're watching
from um beginning to end or all sucked in there
or what uh you know? I mean, obviously, I was
really fired up for Clemson. They looked awesome early kind
of pulled Trevor Lawrence early. Other than that, no, you know,
(12:41):
I was UM. I was excited for North Carolina because
they had a really good offense last year and they
were there bringing back everybody. I don't think that they
played very well all things considered, I thought the Notre
Dame game kind of dragged a little bit, so there
wasn't really one obviously. Look like everybody else, I got
into the Louise Sienna. They don't don't call him the
Louisiana Lafayette anymore, just Louisiana. I got. You missed a
(13:06):
good one with Texas San Antonio and Texas State. I'm
not kidding around about that. That UM very exciting game,
A punt return, mix extra points. So I had to
go to double overtime miss field goal. UM, really entertaining game.
But to see you left me starving so bad. You
are starving. You bind me to your house at two
(13:27):
o'clock in the afternoon. It's now nine o'clock at night.
You haven't fed me yet. So I had to had
to put on Texas San Atario and Texas State. I
was so starving. All this man does his complain and
then he comes on the top of the show and
starts breaking down play by feed Me, feed Me Up,
starving the road Runners in the Bobcats U t s
a Texas State. I love it. You're trying to be
(13:48):
an elitist, but I know you had fun today. You
want to jump in aeron underscore towards I'm instincing genius one.
We'll come back. We'll talk to Pete fu Tech. College
football news, what's going on with the Big Ten, what
about the Pack twelve? Talk about up of the games
today and some pretty big performances. So we'll have all
that coming up next with Pete fu Tech right here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, good evening everyone, Aaron Torres,
(14:11):
Arnie Span you're here on Fox Sports Radio. By the way,
blue EMU Maximum Pain Relief. It works fast and you
won't stink. It's also pharmacists recommended. It's odor free pain
relief for muscle pain, backache, strains, sprains, and even arthritis.
There's no stinging or burning involved. It's just simple pain relief.
A matter of fact, it's Blue EMU Maximum Pain Relief,
(14:33):
works fast and you won't stink. All right, let's go
right out to our guests joining because now you check
them out of College Football News college football News dot Com.
You can check them out on Twitter at Pete feu
tech our buddy, Pete feutech Pete overall. Did that what
your appetite today? College football is back, Doden? You enjoy
it or it wasn't quite enough? What did you think?
I have? You know what? It's you? You kind of
(14:54):
asked the question the right way. And I can't come
up with the right analogy for this other than kind
of feels like as a kid kild have divorced parents.
It's sort of like going to like two Thanksgivings where
it's not quite right and it's fine, you love everybody,
but there's something kind of missing and it's kind of
off and it's a little weird. It just I can't
(15:16):
I don't know what the analogy is for this, but
it's it's fun. Hey, it's it's great watching the Sunbelt
teams do all this. It's great. It just doesn't seem
right because there just isn't a lot of plate teams playing.
There aren't a lot of games. They're kind of dropping
left and right, and it's just it's all weird. But hey,
we're having some fun here. What was your Was there
(15:39):
a single biggest takeaway from today? Is there anything to
take out of today's pete? Yes? Yes, in a huge way.
I want to see, right it depending on if Coastal
Carolina keeps this up against Kansas. Just keep an eye
on if Texas Tech can hold on against Houston freaking Baptist.
If because there aren't any other non conference games involved here,
(16:03):
if the Sun Belt champ and the Big twelve champ
both go undefeated, I want to have that theoretical argument
as to why the College Football Playoff Committee is going
to say, Yeah, Oklahoma or Texas you belong in because
Oklahoma you whacked miss Missouri State and Texas you beat
you tep and oh, by the way, the Sun Belt
(16:25):
is three and oh against your conference, Appalachian State undefeated,
Oklahoma is undefeated. Give us the rationale on merit why
the Sooners should be in the college football playoffs over
Appalachian State. I want to see it. I wanted to
see how that whole thing would go down. By the way,
Texas Tech final now over Houston Baptist. Uh yeah, quite
(16:49):
a run there. What is the latest on the Big
Ten they're voting? What a revote tomorrow, which to me,
it's got to be positive. Right, we're gonna have we're
having football in the Big ten. Tell me that's what
you're hearing. I don't know. I don't know where this
or why this is happening now, other than because here's
the thing. If they've got tests, if all of a
(17:10):
sudden they're like, yeah, we kind of figured this out.
We've got these these high octane tests that we know
are reliable and safe and are gonna work. Okay, that's great,
but kind of I mean literally today Michigan State announced
a two week lockdown. Wisconsin is on a like a lockdown,
and they're not allowing uh, they're telling students to self
(17:31):
quarantine for two weeks. Illinois is a mess. You know.
It's all these Big ten schools are having massive issues,
but now they're gonna play football. Okay, all it's it's
very odd, very weird. But let's see what comes to this.
But Pete, couldn't I make the argument though that I mean,
look the a C Memphis cancels a game, Houston picks
(17:51):
up their opponent, picks up a new opponent this week.
I mean, isn't that just where we are in college
football in I don't know how they do they pick
up these I mean, they're everyone is gonna have to
scramble b y U now had a problem. Uh, It's
just it's gonna be a mess. But their football is
gonna keep rolling on and it just look you're everyone's
(18:12):
schedule is gonna be funky. There's gonna be some strange
things happening, you know, with everybody. But the teams that
can play are gonna still go out there and play.
What what? What have we learned about college football? They're
going to play no matter what. I'm just not sure
who's going to be playing. Yeah, you know, Pete, it's
I'll give you an analogy. It's like going to a
(18:33):
friend's house. You see the light on and you ring
the bell. You ring the bell, but nobody answers the door.
I feel like that's like the Pack twelve. Is anybody
home in the Pack twelve? Are they doing anything the
door with the lights on? But nobody's answering the damn doors.
I guess they don't want to play and they don't care.
They're just gonna be quiet. Then, well, here's the thing
about that is all the good players are kind of
(18:54):
opting out. I mean, you know, it's they've already sort
of sitting you know, I have to say, see well
done Oregon and Walker a little. The great officive tackle
prospect from Stanford is out, and uh, who knows how.
I don't know how you do California schools. I mean
right now, I mean through everything he fires through, you know,
quarantine through not you know, the lockdown rules of not
(19:17):
really being to gather in practicing, because I don't know
how you do that. In the Pact twelve, the Big ten,
I'm I'm really not sure where this is coming from.
And I kind of think that they're gonna say, hey,
let's have a revote so that some of these presidents
can all of a sudden to say, yeah, we're gonna
vote yes, so they can get everyone off their back.
But it's still gonna come out like you know, ten
(19:40):
four or nine five to not play. So when you
say that, Pete, when you say not play, does that
mean not playing not playing until November? What do you
what do you think well that, well, if Pete saying
they're not going to play, I don't think that means October. Right,
I've given up figuring this one out. You can tell
me that tomorrow that they decided. Yeah, you know, this
(20:01):
is why Pentils have eracers, and the SEC is gonna
be playing in late September. But you know, we uh
you know, so we're gonna try to just wait for
the SEC. The SEC is gonna be funky too, because
they're packing in ten games in eleven weeks with a
little bit of flexibility at the end there for a
late game before the SEC Championship, if not pushing back
(20:24):
the SEC Championships. So they're gonna have to get potentially
get quirky too. But the Big Tent, I'm sure is
gonna I wouldn't be shocked at anything at this point.
I wouldn't be shocked as they say, yeah, okay, game on,
let's just do this already. Uh yeah. But meanwhile, you
had stories coming out the exact same time, you had
the Big ten saying this, at the exact same moment
(20:45):
the A c C came out with something. It said, yeah,
you know, if things get really weird, we might postpone
install stuff. If we can't get more than eight teams
healthy at once or something. If something crazy happens and
all of a sudden we lose like eight program ms
for a week, we're gonna have to shut things down
for a little while. But we're just we're not doing it.
We're gonna throw that out there. Just it's so many
(21:06):
conflicting things at once. And meanwhile, where you're watching games,
there's either nobody in the stands or the people in
the stands are all basically sitting on each other. It's
just all it's just an odd overall. Look. But hey,
if the product on the field was a whole lot
of fun today watching what Arkansas State was doing, and
watch what Louisiana was able to do a matter of fact,
(21:28):
let's talk about on the field. Then. Do I take
away anything from Trevor Lawrence's big performance or Sam Ellinger's
uh that like four dred yards five touchdowns? I mean,
both of them put up put up some big numbers.
Take away from anything there or what a little bit?
I mean, look, it's utem so it's whatever Texas was
gonna do is no big loop. But you know, look,
I mean some of these teams just aren't sharp to
(21:49):
start the season. Some of them aren't right. So Texas
came out and did exactly what it's supposed to do.
Against the UTEP. You know, not like they were gonna
be challenged at all. But you know, Texas usually doesn't
drop a hammer like that against anybody under Tom Herman,
and it was just razor sharp from the start. Clemson,
I mean, they had this thing one in the first
three drives and okay, there's your number one team in
(22:11):
the country and they just played like it against the
weak a pretty decent Wake Forest teams. So yeah, it's
it's just basically saying that the big guys are still
pretty good. Well, they got the Citadel, so that's a
big game for them next. That's you know, I don't
know how they were able to get such a tough
schedule during these times. I know it's but they still
at the A c C stuff going on. I got
(22:33):
quirky option offense the last they got stopped cold by
Seals Florida today. But look, you know again, the a
c C has all of a sudden got interesting to
Georgia Tech, Beattie, Florida State. I mean, just so, man,
of these teams are just not quite where they should
be right now. So just get ready for at the
very if you just take away all the icky stuff
that's going on in the world. The actual msfield product
(22:55):
is going to be as weird and bizarre and as
fun as it kind of gets a special. You know,
we're coming up two weeks or so all conference on
conference action. That's going to be a blast. Yeah, definitely
looking forward to that. Pete few Tech. Everybody who can
go and tweet about Pete fu Tech. Check about a
college football news dot com. That's college Football News dot Com.
Always a pleasure, Pete and enjoy. We'll catch up with
(23:17):
you later on. Buddy, all right, take care of thanks,
you take everybody. You gotta check it out. Well, if
you're big college football guy, college football News dot Com
first time tonight. Let's see what's trending. Is we check
in with the SEGA. What's going on the sea? There
we go, Hello, gentlemen, we do have the update from
the PAC Twell. By the way, there's a radio interview
yesterday in Seattle with Commissioner Larry Scott saying, until we
(23:41):
get the blessing of health officials, I'm not even going
to bring things back to the school presidents to review.
We're hoping that happens by the end of this month
and then we can revisit and then we can health
health officials from the loan, the same ones that said
that the SEC and the AC in the big certainly
not you know as well as I just didn't know
which one he was talking about. That, you know as
(24:01):
well as I that we've talked on the Sunday Night Show,
for example, how regional this virus is in people's response
to it and people's behavior toward it. And so the
pact twelve schools in the state of California in the
state of Oregon currently don't even have permission to practice
football because of the health guidelines, and even once they
get that, they still need the approval of the school
presidents in the conference to actually start a season. The
(24:24):
good news was last week because they have gone with
the science that packed twelve and say, my goodness, we
might need so much testing. We don't have a contract
for that kind of testing. Well now they do, so
last week they announced through this company based in southern California,
they can get rapid tests and so even in the
regions with high numbers as far as the virus. Great,
(24:46):
if the athletic department is told you gotta do daily
testing for your student athletes, that apparently would not be
a problem. I gotta check the numbers with Clay Travis
first before I say anything. Yeah, that's where we all
go for our science. There is late play football. By
the way, FS one has the Kansas home game and
they're getting shut out by Coastal Carolina. It is still
(25:06):
Kansas has missed a field goal short, so they're still
getting shut out. Under four minutes to go till halftime.
The Chanta clears twenty one Zip on the road. And
by the way, that game with Houston Baptist is still
going about five minutes to go. Texas Tech thirty five seven,
you have a Shanta clear amongst your jokes, that was
(25:30):
I thought you were gonna say, amongst your jokes, that
was one of them. You guys talked about not much, uh,
you know, pizzazz on the schedule, and and I agree
with that. I did get into the game on Fox TV.
It won me over today. The Arkansas State red Wolves
getting the touchdown pass in the final minute to win
at Kansas State thirty five thirty one. They had some fans.
(25:51):
Their attendance was listed at eleven thousand. The Notre Dame
game ten thousand fans Notre Dame eventually pulled away to
beat Duke thirteen. And the Florida State game, Yes, they
had fans. Unfortunately they still don't have much of a
team attendance with seventeen thousand. They lost it home to
Georgia Tech sixteen thirteen. And you're right, that game took
many hours to play. That was great though. They're up
(26:11):
nothing and choked it away. And for those who s
took around, and that was about nine o'clock at night
that the day game ended. And here your home team
gives up a touchdown and field goal in the fourth
quarter to lightning delays early Clemson in Oklahoma, each with
the easy wins. North Carolina got win, Louisiana one at
number twenty three, Iowa State four. Whatever number twenty three
(26:33):
means this year in college football. By the way, Eagles
running back Miles Sanders is out tomorrow with a hamstring injury.
Brad Keselowski won the NASCAR Race at Richmond, Naomi, Osaka
took the US Open title and a comeback in three sets.
NHL Dallas up three games to one in the West Final,
beating top seeded Vegas again tonight two to one. The
Lakers eliminated the Houston Rockets in the Conference Semis one
(26:55):
nineteen ninety six. In Game five. Tomorrow it's Clippers Nuggets
Game six. Clippers leading three games to to the West
Final could start on Wednesday night. We know the Eastern
Conference Finals will start Tuesday evening with Miami against Boston.
And what a ball game on Fox TV that has
just ended. The Houston Astros score five runs in the
(27:15):
top of the ninth at Dodger Stadium to beat closer
Kenneley Jansen in l A seven to five. You know
Dodger fans, some of them wearing masks, but gathering at
the entrance of Dodgers Stadium before the game to actually
yell at the Astros team bus as it came into
the stadium. Dodgers led much of the night, but Jansen
(27:36):
faced six batters in the ninth. They all reach base,
including an air, and Houston wins seven to five. See
the only game still out there is top of the
eleventh Angels tied at Colorado to to everything else in
baseball final and by the way, San Francisco at San
Diego was postponed again. The Giants are isolating in their
San Diego hotel after a member of the organization had
a positive virus test. Last night was postponed as well.
(27:58):
Back to you all right, thanks to Saga. Welcome back
to the Fox Sports Radio studios. It's all brought to
you by Geico. It's easy to say fifteen percent of
more in car insurance with Geico. You have to go
to Geico dot com or give him a call one
eight hundred nine for seven auto. The only hard part, well,
that's figuring out which way is easier. He's Aaron Torres
AMRNI Spaniard. You want to go ahead and send us
(28:19):
a tweet Aaron underscore Torres. I'm it's thinking genius one.
Tell me if you agree with this real quick. When
we talk about why the Pack twelve is and I
think it's more quiet than the Big ten and all
the other conferences. And look, I understand there's different rules
for different states. I understand how that goes. But if
you look at the SEC, you look at the a SEC,
(28:41):
look at the Big twelve, you look at the Big ten.
A lot of college towns. You look at the Pack twelve.
You got two in U C l A and USC
in Los Angeles. You've got a Seattle in Washington, you've
got Arizona State in Phoenix. You've got a couple in
the Bay Area with Stanford and cal You taught what
Salt Lake City. It's not like those small college towns
(29:04):
where they could you know, where they need the money
that desperately for that year. Does that make sense, Aaron,
it's the other places that are such college sounds they
can't afford to go one year without college football. You know, Well,
it's a heck of a theory, but it's not factually
accurate at all. Not well, I mean, it's factually accurate
that they're in big cities, but that's not why we
(29:24):
don't have the season. It's for the reason that the
Sager said is that the California essentially California health officials
are the reason that the PAC twelve doesn't have a season,
because when the Big ten canceled, the PAC twelve piggybacked
off them. But there was reports that the PAC twelve
wanted to cancel even before that. Because the four California
schools can't get into their facilities to even work out, like,
(29:46):
let alone get on the practice field do all that stuff.
The California teams can't even get into their facilities to
put to practice. I believe Oregon is the same, although
their governor has said that they will. The governor came
out and said that she will not put the two
States school at a disadvantage. But when you have half
the conference, half the conference can't even get into their
football facilities to work out, we're not talking about practice,
(30:07):
We're talking It sounded like Allen Iris there. We're not
talking about practice, we're talking about simply lifting weights inside
the indoor facility. You can't really have a season, unfortunately,
and that's what's holding this whole thing up. Well, there
was a lot of states like that. Florida was like that.
I mean, Florida was like that. Florida never closed Jim's
aren't and certainly not after June. No. I mean I
(30:28):
just met in the numbers with the coronavirus when this
first thing started. Did I say? I literally said nothing
about numbers with coronavirus. I'm talking a go ahead. But
that's part of it though. I mean, you're not closing
down the state because the weather is back or anything
like that. Well, they're gonna shut down the state of
California tomorrow' know if you're paying attention to this forty
Niners Cardinals game and might get shut down because of
the weather. But by the way, I hope everybody listening
(30:50):
in l A, California, northern California, Oregon is safe because
it's scary out there. But um no, I mean listen.
Coronavirus numbers are not the They're the reason that Jim's
are close, but they're not the reason that college football
is not being played. They're not. It's not being played
because the teams can't get into their facilities because of
the health officials. Right, by the way, I made a mistake.
I want to do a correction. What do you got
(31:11):
uh that that it's a big one. Nobody, nobody else
has corrected me, so obviously, how many people are watching
the game? Uh, the Houston Baptist game was not over,
it's Texas Tech. Houston Baptist actually scored a touchdown. Now,
so Texas Tech leads thirty five thirty three. They just
missed a two point conversion. Now there's three twenty three
left in the game. Now, so Texas Tech with a
two point lead over you, Houston Baptist, and still three
(31:34):
twenty three left. You think somebody would have corrected me
on that right away, and since the premier game out
there tour as you know, actually I did correct here.
It proves not that others still't listen to you, but
that you don't listen to others. Well, I mean, you
literally did give a nice one minute soliloquy Di Sager
on why there's no Pack twelve football, and then he
just completely brushed aside with his own half big things
(31:55):
like they it's not a theory, it's a report. This
is a news desk. This is exactly why they made
the decision. You guys have to understand if the Pact
twelve had college towns, um you know, like Tuscaloose and
places like you're saying, there would be more pressure, oh
hell of a lot more, of course, then you could
(32:17):
imagine that's correct. That's not why this decision in Pact
twelve country was made, though. Yeah, that's all. You're saying.
Money behind every decision, every decision, Money is behind that.
You don't think Salt Lake City needs the money right now.
You don't think Phoenix and Tempi need to listen. Phoenix
(32:39):
and places like that can go without for a year.
You know that Los Angeles, the Bay Area, not so
much like Columbus or Tuscaloose that you saw them. We're
not playing football Columbus with Wisconsin when they say we'll
lose like a hundred million dollars if we don't play football.
Who else is gonna lose hundrem million dollars Utah. That's
(33:02):
why they furloughed the entire athletic department last week. I listen.
I think it's an interesting theory, the idea that because
there's more big cities, there's not more public pressure. I
think that is a legitimately reasonable argument. But there's a
difference between public pressure and the reason it's not happening.
And the reason it's not happening is because the health
(33:23):
officials are not even allowing these teams into their facilities,
let alone to the practice field. But I think public pressure,
I think it's a fair point. I do think that well,
that that's some of them. I would have loved to
seen Arizona and Arizona State breakaway for the year, just
like the Braska wanted to breakaway UM, but there was
too much pressure because they'd say, we wouldn't let you back.
But they'll tell me the pact twelve would have done that.
They can't afford to lose Arizona and Arizona State. Well,
(33:44):
and I'll tell you this, Ernie and and I was
talking to one of our ap s, Kevin, about this
before the show today. I don't want to get political this,
We're not trying to get political here, but I am
surprised that no one impact twelve country in the political
world has taken up this topic as a political stand,
not so much just because of the colleges, but because
of the high schools. I mean, we have no high
(34:06):
schools in California playing, and that affects tens of thousands
of families across the states. So I think it's a
fair question for you to ask why has no one
at all. There's been no parent protests, there's been no
coaching outspeak, and I think that's a fair point for
you to ask. Arnie. And I'm surprised that we have
heard not a single peep about this at all, whether
(34:27):
it's from the political world, the parents, the players, whatever,
That is a little surprising me. I agree with you,
but you don't think it has anything to do with
the size of the city, not being a college town
and going without the money for maybe a year or
something like that. Yeah, I listen. I agree that. I
think that's part of the reason there is not as
much of a public push. There's other things going on
(34:48):
in Phoenix and Salt Lake in l A. But it
is not the reason we don't have football. But I
think it's a fair point by you. I'll give you
credit where it's due. I do think that that's probably
why there's not as much of a public push, because
people in Phoenix got to watch the Suns for up
until a few weeks ago. They're gonna get to watch
the Cardinals tomorrow, they're watching the Diamondbacks. I think that's
a fair point by you. All Right, you want to
go ahead and jump on in aeron under score Tours.
(35:09):
I'm in stinking genius one. We'll come back. What what
what happened on the field? Torres, We'll go through the games?
What you know what happened? That's coming up next right
here on Fox Sports or Radio Arnie hundred bucks. If
you can name the people singing this song. Oh, I
was just listen to it on my eight track. What
(35:30):
is this? What is this? Cameron and the diplomats come
Cameron on the diplomats. How did I not know that
it was right on the tip of your tongue. It
was on the tip of my tongue. It was so close.
Don Don had a hundred bucks for you too. But
next time, next time, next time. I'm very good at
this game. I how we've been playing for over two years.
I don't think I've got one right. Well, you know,
(35:51):
the first time for everything. So it's so much like
many of your sports picks as well. Welcome back to
the Fox Sports or radio studios. It's brought here by
Geico Texas up fifty three over you tap. Nothing expectacular
to see here. Just keep moving on those seven Ellener
twenty five or thirty three five touchdots. I think that
was all done in the first half. Obviously they were
(36:13):
going to run it up. You tep. Was no competition
for him. Uh, Texas looks already in mid season four,
and I can't wait till they played somebody good. You know. Yeah,
I will say this. We were on last week you
tap played and struggled against an FCS school. You tap.
I did my homework. I had nothing but time this offseason.
R I did my homework. I'm telling you you Tip
might be the worst team in the country and Kansas
(36:34):
might be the worst Power five team in the country.
Go ahead, give everybody an update on what they're doing. Okay,
think Kansas Jayhawks losing the Coastal Carolina twenty eight to
three at the half. Wow, I mean all you can
say is wow. I don't know what the spread was
on that game, uh to start things off, but I
can tell you it was crazy because it was about
(36:55):
a three Kansas was about a three and a half
point favorite, and it jumped to seven and a half.
So wow. I don't know who was the sharp that
sent in a bunch of money that swung that line,
but yeah, that guy's not feeling good right now. Probably
now I could say officially do have a final Texas
Tech thirty five thirty three over Houston Baptist uh. And
(37:19):
they were a big favorite in that one. So not
a good showing for Texas Tech, who was supposed to
play my Arizona Wildcats this year. That was gonna be
an easy win. We we're gonna win that one, you
know that, right, They were all gonna be easy for Yard.
We're gonna go on defeated this year. This was our
year Clemson. They beat wake Forest thirty seven thirteen nothing
really again to see here? Twenty seven nothing, get to
have Trevor Lawrence twenty three fifty wanted to touchdown? Um,
(37:44):
nothing gaudy. Wake Forest did a pretty decent job. But overall, uh,
Trevor Lawrence, it was an okay performance out there. You know,
how about this three fifty one yards passing, one touchdown,
two rushing touchdowns and that is a thing special performance
And I'm not criticizing you for saying it just shows
how talented that guy is. I would love to know
(38:05):
how it's like Sam Linger, I guess is what I
was saying there? Yeah, yeah, I mean that was a
conference game on the road. It's a little different. I mean,
but I'm not saying way Forest is good. But relative
to you tips so nothing to see you el caoholm
me either. They squashed Missouri State forty eight nothing Spencer
Rattler the freshman fourteen and seventeen to ninety but with
four touchdowns. Um again Oklahoma Texas will see when that
(38:28):
is but uh, that's one of the things we'll have
to be looking forward to now that we don't have
great out of conference games. You know, yeah, yeah, no,
And I still think there are some interesting teams in
the Big twelve outside of Oklahoma Texas. But I will
admit it was not a good showing for them today,
And obviously it's continuing with with Kansas. But you know,
there's some other teams that are interesting. Baylor didn't play today.
(38:50):
West Virginia look good, So I'm not ready to give
up on everyone other than Oklahoma Texas, but it does
feel like those are the two classes of the league.
I watched a lot of the Duke Notre Dame Duke game. UM,
where you more impressed with Duke putting up a good
game or less impressed with No Tre Dame? Or was
it where you thought it was gonna be? In Book
was to sixty three in a touchdown, but UM didn't
(39:12):
have a touch interception in the end zone. Uh, not
a crazy great performance for a team that's supposed to
be in the top ten like the Irish. Yeah, what
I would say is I think it was really about
where I expected it to be. Arnie, You're you referenced
Ian Book. He's been there for a bunch of years now,
fourteen years, I believe. Yeah. Well, and they had listened
to their top two receivers are both taken in the
(39:33):
second round of the NFL Draft, So like, he was
not that good to be in this no disrespect, he's
a college kid. He's doing the best that he can.
But he he isn't Trevor Lawrence. He isn't justin fields,
and he lost his two best receivers. So I wasn't
quite as high on Notre Dame coming into this year
as everybody else. Not surprised they get a solid win.
I don't think they're this playoff contender that other people
are claiming. So you don't think they're like a top
(39:54):
ten team. They're overrated, one of the overrated teams that
are probably you know, it's so weird this year because like,
what what is top ten? When I don't know, you know,
you know, I thought I saw something where Texas now
with their win is like chance of making the playoffs.
I'm serious. Louisiana is now they're gonna be in the
top four. We remember we used to do our top
(40:16):
four after every week. If we had to do a
top four after this week, I think Louisiana Army might
be in there too. They won big again today, So
remember didn't I said they were gonna win every game
this year or something like that. You've been raving army Army,
I said they were gonna win every game. Alright. The
hour one we just crushed. It's in the books, just
flew on by. You want to be part of the show,
(40:37):
Real simple, Aaron Underscore Tours. I'm in stinking genius one
coming up next hour. It's NFL Week one. We just
got a little sample of it with Kansas City and
the Texans um homes and Deshaun Watson. Now we get
the rest of the first week. We're are the upsets. Uh,
we'll get to all that that's coming up next here
(40:58):
on Fox Sports Radio. Ah, good eating everyone who We're
coming to you alive from the Fox Sports Radio studios,
and it's all brought to you by Geico. Fifteen minutes
could save you fifteen percent of more in current insurance.
Visit geico dot com free free rate quote. He's Aeron Torres.
I'm Arnie Spaniard. You want to be part of the
(41:18):
show rail Zootball Aaron Underscore touris I'm instincting genius one
NFL Week one. First of all, how did that Kansas
City Texans game taste to you? What'd you think? I
thought it tasted like some delicious Casey barbecue there, Arnie Spaniard,
I liked it. I mean, you know, I'll say, Um,
I thought Casey having fans in the stands helped? Uh,
(41:39):
it did it? Just it didn't outside of outside of
Antie Reid's face mask, it really didn't feel all that
different to me, And honestly didn't you didn't think the
lack of fans. They were loud enough, they gave enough
home field advantage. Nothing, nothing was missing from your television
experience there. I mean, a competitive effort from the Texans
was seeing. But other than that, um, No, I thought
(42:02):
I thought it was an overall good product. Obviously the
Chiefs looked really sharp, but no, I mean, I think
having fans in that stadium helped him. I know that
the NFL had no idea when they scheduled that game,
or it could have had no idea that Casey would
be one of the few places that is going to
have fans in the stands. So I thought it worked
out well. I thought the crowd was into it as
much as they could be. Um And really the only
(42:25):
time I noticed it like I said, And the only
time I I really even noticed it significantly today in
college football was when you panted the sidelines and you
see a coach with a mask or face shield or
whatever on. Well, you know what, again, all the sports
I was able, I'm able to enjoy basketball, hockey, baseball. UM,
not a big deal if there's no fans there. Fans
(42:47):
are so much part of football. It's the whole experience
people go to the stadiums, whether they go to the
game or not, the whole tailgating, being around the people,
the crowds UM in college, the alumni UM, the student
student's it's it's a whole different thing. The fans are
a part of the game. They're part of the game
day experience. I guess is what I'm saying there. You know, yeah, no,
(43:09):
I I agree. And that was why it was so
cool to UM. That was why it was so cool
to see a place like Notre Dame where there was
a big student contingent. But no, listen, I think that,
as I said on Monday when we're filling in with
Jason's for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon, I do think
college basketball, college basketball, college football. I got basketball on
(43:30):
the screen. That's what's making me think about college football
will be one of the sports that it feels like
it is impacted the most. Listen, it's not going to
feel normal in the same way that baseball doesn't feel normal.
But again, I thought, all things considered, I thought today
was a great day. You would have loved some bigger matchups.
But in terms of the game experience, the TV experience,
(43:50):
I really did enjoy it, Arenie, right before we started
taking a look at a week one of the NFL.
And by the way, you tell us where the upsets happening?
Who's overrated on the ray? Did team wise? Player wise?
Watch out for who? I love doing that stuff? So
once again, Aaron underscore tours. I'm at stinking genius one.
How about my Lakers out there putting away the Houston Rockets.
(44:12):
How about that my friend, uh not really surprising Rockets
basically where they gave up once they got down. They
waved the white flag, no doubt. So let me ask
you this because obviously there's gonna be a big conversation about, Yeah,
you can't build a team like this. Harden finishes with thirty,
but a lot of them were late when the game
was long after decided. Uh, you know, if you're doing
a blame pie, is it hard in? Is it? Mike D'Antoni,
(44:34):
Who do you blame for the current state of the
Houston Rockets. But you can't blame Harden because you gotta
keep him around, So you gotta blame their Tony and
move on and get another piece to the puzzle. I
don't know if this means that the small ball can't work,
or maybe they just played a team that was better
than them. That could be a too. You know, every
once in a while, the other team is just better
there towards it. Maybe it's not a gimmick or any
(44:56):
think it's just the other team is better. No I
And I was thinking about that as as I watched
the Celtics Raptors Game seven last night was the Raptors. Yeah,
it was a great game and it was a heck
of a series, and the Celtics were just better. The
better team won, the better team made more plays down
the stretch last night. Um, but with the Rockets the
other one too. On top of D'Antoni, I think it's
(45:17):
time for their g M Darryl Morey to go. And
I've been on this for a while. But this is
a guy that has basically the only two constants throughout
this whole era have been him and James Harden, And
he is a guy that every six months he shakes
up this whole thing so that way he can say that, oh,
you know, it's not my fun. You know, we just
give us another six months, and then he shakes it
(45:38):
up again. I mean, think about all the moves that
this guy has made. He's supposed to be an analytics guy.
He signs trades for Russell Westbrook in the past, he
signed Dwight Howard, he signed Carmelo Anthony. Yeah, but all
those well, first of all, the picking up Westbrook wasn't
a bad thing. Having Hardens not a bad thing. So
you can't blame him for stuff like that. But can
you blame Mike D'Antoni for the struggles when this was
(46:00):
the roster that he was given by management. Well, whether
you want or not, it doesn't make an difference. He's
going to get the blame, so you'll have to move on.
And I'm not saying he shouldn't get any blame. I'm
just saying I'm just saying the GM is ultimately the
guy who constructed this team now was to suit what
Mike D'Antoni wants to do. But I just think that
if you're gonna if you're gonna fire Mike D'Antoni, I
think the GM has gotta go to And I think
(46:21):
the other one that's that you mentioned James Harden being there,
he's not going anywhere. I don't know if this is
gonna work with Westbrook, man. I just you know, I
watched Westbrook this series, and I watched him really even
in that Okay c series when he came back, and
I just wonder if it's over for him. Man. He's
still a dynamic athlete, but he can't shoot. He turns
the ball over too much. And it's just he is
(46:42):
who he is. He's thirty thirty two years old and
he's still an incredible physical specimen. But it's like, it's
just I just think it's over. I just don't think
he can play in the NBA and be a star
in the current iteration of how the NBA works. On
the other side, how about my Lakers? How about them? Um?
I was a little worried when they lost that first
game to the Rockets. I'm like, oh boy, we jumped
(47:03):
the gun here a little bit, but they came. They
came roaring back in the next four, so they're back
on track. Yeah. No, I agree with that, um, and
I think they look phenomenal. Let me just ask you
this in the bigger picture, I know that the Clippers
still have another game to get to the Western Conference Finals.
We get that. Who are you more confident in right now? Aren'tie?
(47:23):
Because I look at it from this perspective, is that
I still think the Clippers are the more talented team.
But I think the Lakers are playing better as a team.
And if you're asking me right now, not, And I'm assuming,
of course that the Clippers do advance. I like the Lakers,
and I didn't like the Lakers before these playoffs started. No,
that that's fair. The Lakers are playing better ball. Uh.
(47:45):
Shocked that the Clippers lost that last game to to Denver. Um,
that's just another game. They're gonna have to go ahead
and put full effort out without getting a rest. Well
the well, the Lakers get to sit back and rest
out there. So um, you could be right about that,
and I do like the Wakers. If it comes out
to the Clippers. My pick was the Lakers in the Celtics,
and it looks like I'm gonna be dead on on
that one. That's what's gonna happen to me. But how
(48:06):
crazy is that we're gonna have Lakers Celtics and we're
not gonna have any fans at the games? How crazy
is that? What's even crazier is you've just said baby
for Russell Westbrooks or rage. Yeah, I was gonna say.
What's even crazier is that you already know the finals.
You can see into the future. By the way, I
had Clipper Celtics. I was the only one at FSR,
so I'm still rooting for that. But I like how
(48:27):
you've just assumed that because you picked these two teams
that it's already a foregone conclusion. All right, jump on
in Aeron under score Torres, I'm ed stinking genius one.
And just to wrap up Texans Chiefs, Um, Deshaun Watson
only about two fifty three yards, Uh my homes only
a little bit over two hundred yards, like to eleven
or something like that. But the Kansas City Chiefs with
(48:49):
a running game, Um, all of a sudden, they already
looked better than I imagine after just one game. If
they have a running like game like that all year,
you know, yeah, Clyde Edwards Hilayer, we walk him a
lot with l s U. We obviously have come on
for years now after these big college football games, and
when they drafted him, I just said, man, that's another
weapon for that team. And it does take the pressure
(49:11):
off Patrick Mahomes and even worse when they do build
that big lead like they so often do, they can
now just hand it off to him and run between
the tackles. So I thought it was um, it was
a great effort overall, and it's kind of what we
were just saying with Trevor Lawrence a minute ago, is
that Clemson one and Trevor Lawrence didn't really break a
sweat Patrick Mahomes. I know he threw for three touchdowns,
(49:31):
but two dred eleven yards. It felt like he could
have done even more if necessary, but it wasn't necessary.
With the run game, which has to be, of course
scary for everybody else in the NFL. The game which
has to be number one on everybody's mind. He died,
think so has to be Tampa and the Saints. Right,
you want to see what Tom Brady is going to do.
I think he's going to have a phenomenal game. I
(49:52):
think he's gonna have over three hundred yards passing. Not
sure they could beat the Saints in New Orleans, especially
for Tom's first game in a Buccaneer UniFormat do you
think that the Saints could maybe be a good pick
their only way in three and a half points and
maybe take the Buccaneers a little bit of time before
you even picked the game or anything like that. What
do you expected out of Tom Brady? No preseason limited practice. Yes,
(50:16):
he did go to the park and practice with his teammates, right,
so we got that in there. But what do you
expected out of Tom Brady tomorrow? Listen? I expect him
to be what he has been for the past twenty years,
which m v P best quarterback ever. Well, I just
think consistent. I think confident, poised leader, and the biggest thing,
like like understand, I'm not saying he's a quote unquote
(50:39):
system quarterback or a game manager or anything, but that's
all Tampanni. They went seven and nine last year. They
had a good season, turning when the quarterback turned the
ball over thirty times, and so you give him all
those weapons. You give him all that talent, a great
play caller and offensive minded coach like Bruce Arians and
(50:59):
I think it's just gonna be an awesome fun thing
to watch, uh this whole season. So I expect him
to uh pick up where he I don't know what,
pick up where he left off. That's not the right
way to say, because he didn't. He struggled towards the
end of New England. I don't think he's a superstar.
I don't think he's one of the four or five
six best talents at quarterback in the league. But you
look at his smarts, his savvy and the talent he
(51:21):
has around him, I think they're gonna be really good,
aren't I really do. Who has more pressure to win,
not tomorrow but this year, um Bill Belichick or Tom Brady.
So I said this last week when we did this,
I think that Tom Brady has more pressure to win
this year. But I think that could shift obviously if
(51:44):
Tom Brady has success and Bill Belichick doesn't. Because what
I was telling you last week there, my friend, well,
I mean, I think that's a fair point, is And
what I asked you was how much leeway does Bill
Belichick get right, like he's an icon. We get it.
He's gonna get a statue outside of Foxborough when it's
all said in on, But how soon if Brady keeps winning,
(52:04):
how soon until people start to say if Belichick struggles,
well you know it was really Brady and you know
he's it will take one year. If it's the other
way around. If Brady struggles and Belichick doesn't, then it's
gonna be well, now we know the answer. It was
all Belichick, not Brady. That's what everybody's gonna say, which
couldn't be further from the truth. Well, yeah, no, I agree,
it's not It couldn't be further from the truth. But
(52:25):
I also agree that Brady, I think, will feel if
both struggle this year, There's no doubt that Brady will
feel the pressure more. I'm just curious if Brady does well,
Belichick obviously gets a pass for this year, and he
probably even gets a pass for next year. But you know,
I know we're talking now the season, but I just
(52:45):
wonder how much leeway he has as this all time
icon if he doesn't have Tom Brady. But I think
to your point, you're right, Brady will feel the heat first.
If he struggles. You know, there's a chance the Buccaneers
get run out of town on this one on the road,
um on the Dome. Obviously, Tom trying to get acclimated
with his new team. Saints of you know, been around
(53:07):
for a while, at least the majority of them have.
There's a chance they Saints Good win this by two
three touchdowns and people are like, oh yes, say Tom Brady,
no Good can't leave the Buccaneers. It's just one game,
and it's a tough one on the road in New Orleans.
But there's a chance Saints could blow them out in
this game. You know, I think it's uh, I think
it's a possibility. I don't think it will happen. If
(53:28):
I don't want to say that, I was gonna say
if I think anyone gets blown out, I think it
would be the Saints more than the Bucks. But I
don't know that. I know, I don't know that. I
I don't think anyone's gonna get blown out. I mean
even Tom Brady. I mean, think about Tom Brady last year,
with the lack of weapons that he had late in
the season, they still played Casey right down to the wire.
They still played Obviously, I know they lost in the
(53:51):
playoffs to the Titans, but it was a close game
that came. So it's like, if he could do all
of that with the lack of talent around him, um,
imagine what he will be able to do with all
these weapons. I think that I think that he will
look good tomorrow. I'm not guaranteeing a win. I do
think he'll look good. He's loaded now, he has the
most weapons around him now. Then, jeez, I don't know
(54:13):
how he's never really had a running back in New England.
So he finally has a running back. He's got a
better team around them now then he's probably ever had
in his entire NFL career for crying out loud, well
certainly since back to like that oh, eight oh nine era.
But and I think it's it's that's why he's in Tampa, right.
I mean, it's funny because we think back to that
whole kind of conversation about the free agency. You and
(54:35):
I were on air when they lost to the tight Ends,
and you and I immediately went to, well, he's gonna
go to the Chargers, all the new stadium, all those weapons.
The reason he chose Tampa was very specifically because of
all the weapons that they have, and if you remember,
it's easy to forget now, but back in March, it
was an upset when it happened that he ended up
in Tampa. So I there was a strategic reason, and
(54:56):
it's for what you said on all that talent that's
gonna be around him. I don't want to put you
on the spo. I don't know if you know this.
There's actually other games tomorrow other than the Buccaneers in
the same Yes, there is, there is, there is. I
know it's all about Tom Brady, especially out here in
the Northeast. You think that was a super Bowl, Well
you can't be. But you think that's the um NFC
Conference Championship or something. Go ahead, you want to break
(55:18):
down Bears Bears lines when we come back, don't you?
Just a full segment of Bearings. That's that's not a
bad game either. Well, there's there's worst games on that.
But we'll start taking a look at the rest of
the games a week one that's coming up next. He's
Aaron Torres. I'm any Spaniard. This is Fox Sports our radio. Alright,
good evening, everyone, Aaron Torres, Arnie span you're on a
(55:40):
busy Saturday night. You want to be part of the show,
real simple, Aaron underscore Torres, I'm in stinking genius one.
All right, before we do anything else, let's check out
the Geico play of the day. Rockets will just scribble
it out for the Los Angeles Lakers are back to
the Western Conference Finals for the first time since twenty
tan is they eliminate the Euston Rockets to five games?
(56:04):
All right, thanks to ESPN TV on the call. Did
you know that right now Geico is offering an extra
fiftcent credit on car motorcycle even RV policies. That's fifteen
percent on top of what Geico could already save you.
So what are you waiting for? Save an extra fifteen
percent when you switched by October seven? Visit Geico dot
com to learn more. By the way, how much does
(56:27):
that take away from the Western Conference Finals Clippers Lakers
in Orlando? I mean, what could you imagine the buzz
l a would have and how tough would have been
to get tickets to something like that tours it would
have been possible, you know, yeah, it would have been great.
Uh oh jeez, it would have been awesome. Yeah, It's
funny because my mom's actually coming to visit this weekend
(56:47):
this week and so she'll get a little taste of
it from the l a perspective, at the very least
a little bit. But no, I mean it would have
been great. And you know, it's like you said, if
we get Clipper Celtic or Lakers Celtics, especially in the
five annals, that would have been great. But you know, listen,
I'll stick to the talking point that I've had since April.
I'm just happy we got sports back, and and I
(57:08):
do think it's interesting, by the way, I'm sure you've
seen these reports, aren'ty, but that the NBA is even
willing to push back a little bit next year to
ensure that they can get games in arenas with fans
in the stands as opposed to trying to do a bubble.
So I thought that was pretty interesting too. What do
you mean, like start the season later than Christmas? Is
I don't understand, or you mean the finals you're saying no, like, yeah,
start after January? Um so probably. I mean, originally I
(57:30):
think the talk was do it in December, but now
I think they're really pushing to have some fans in
the stands the start of next season whenever that. Maybe
I don't know what's realistic what's not, but it's something
Adam Silver has talked about a little bit. Yeah, it's uh,
it is. I'd imagine it's gonna be tough. Clippers Lakers,
um while they're playing in Orlando and everybody in Los
Angeles trying to by the way, well, the time is better,
(57:53):
be better than like one o'clock on a Sunday like tomorrow.
It is that what is going on? Who made that?
You could draw it out of a hat and pick
a better time than that? You know, I saw that
today and I was like, that's gotta be a misprint. Yeah,
let's just go ahead to head with Week one of
the NFL. So, I mean, I know you'll you'll, I mean,
(58:13):
I'll watch it, But of course, how much through it?
How much will you and Plank break down that game
eight hours later when it's done, the whole eight hours
of it? That's for sure. You want to get in
Aaron underscore tours of it stick a genius one. Um,
let's go back a year ago. If this was a
year ago, we weren't really talking about the Patriots or
Tom Brady or you know, even Mahomes. Is he going
(58:36):
to win at the big team? The big talk was
who who was the popular team? Who was the sexy team?
That was the Cleveland Browns. I'm taking them the win
the division. I'm taking them the win the conference. I've
taking him to win the super Bowl. What did you
canna say? No? I thought you were saying this year
you're taking no, no, no, That's what everybody was talking
about last year. Now this year they're coming in under
(58:57):
the radar. Maybe we're one year too early on that
they're playing Baltimore. You talk about a massive game coming
in under the radar Baltimore with the early exit from
the playoffs, Cleveland, Baker Mayfield's think of the at least
I would be thinking to myself, I could lose my
starting job this year if I don't play well. Forget
about the end of the year. This year. So um,
(59:20):
and it starts like against a really, really good defense.
This is a great game. The Browns are so loaded,
but they were loaded last year too. I'm thinking maybe
we're just one year earlier on them, or maybe Baker
Mayfield's not the answer. And don't forget Ravens went fourteen
and two in the regular season last year. One of
(59:41):
those losses was to Arnie Spaniards Cleveland Browns. So, uh yeah, no, listen,
I think they're interesting and my take on them all
off season has been, um, there's no excuses for Baker
at this point because they drafted an offensive lineman in
the first round to shore up their biggest need obviously
the weapons on all fencer there. The defense was good
(01:00:01):
in Spurts last year. This is on Baker Mayfield Man.
You talk to talk last year in the offseason, you
didn't back it up. This year you toned everything back. Uh,
and it's go time. Now, it's go time. I'm not
saying they need to win tomorrow or anything, but in
the bigger picture, they need He needs, specifically to be
a lot better. He's a better quarterback than what he's shown. Right.
I think he's not gonna lose his job this year?
(01:00:23):
Is it unless they start off Owen whatever? Is he?
You just said he might lose his job this year. Well,
I was just asking you you it could happen if
he starts off Owen whatever. But I think they're too
talented and too good for that to happen. I agree,
And when I go back to last year, I'm not
not I'm not not placing blame on Baker Mayfield. But
if you go back, aren't you remember watching those games
(01:00:45):
on Sundays, how disorganized they wore. The the idiot, you know,
the idiot, the idiot see of Freddie Kitchens. I'm sure
he's a nice guy, but he was so overqualified or
underqualified in that job. And you she used to watch
him every Sunday last year, and they didn't know how
to line up, and they would take dumb penalties, and
they would do stupid things. And then they get a
(01:01:07):
win and he wears a T shirt to a press conference.
And I do think having Stefanski there the new head coach,
he's more of a professional, he's more um, you know, polished.
Along with the improvements they made in the off season,
I'm excited to watch this team, not saying they're gonna
win the division or anything. I think they'll be much
better though. Now, shouldn't there be just as much or
at least some pressure on the Ravens after the way
(01:01:30):
they got eliminated from the playoffs last year and having
such a good record and Lamore Jackson not having a
great game. There's got to be some pressure on that,
or we're giving them a pass in that first year. Um, well,
I mean you know what, what is pressure? I mean
I think that, yeah, if they know, there's always pressure, right,
I understand that. But it's gonna start being like Baker
(01:01:50):
Mayfield pressure. Um if they bow out of that the
playoffs again like that. Yeah, That's what I was gonna say,
is I think, obviously, you gotta make the playoffs, and
I think he got to. You gotta advance in the playoffs.
And I think that it's funny. Right. We talked about this,
maybe more in the NBA than in the NFL, But
in the NBA there are certain teams that are like,
it's not enough to just get to the playoffs. You
(01:02:11):
gotta win there and the regular season isn't as important.
The NFL. Obviously, the regular season is important because you
get so few games during the regular season. But I
think for the Ravens, it doesn't matter if you win
the division, doesn't matter if you go fourteen in two.
You gotta get to the playoffs and you gotta make
some noise there. Lamar's young, He's got plenty of good
years ahead of him. But at a certain point this
becomes a narrative, and I think he's got a nippet
(01:02:31):
in the butt as quickly as he can. And that
was an ugly game last year, Yes twelve or something
like that. Jackson I had over three yards. He was
thirty one of fifty nine. But he had two interceptions also,
and that was I think the worst offensive input of
the of the season last year. Yeah. No, and and
we were on air during that game and we were yeah,
(01:02:53):
and and you know, Lamar made some mistakes early and
then of course they were playing the Titans, and the
run game was able to take over from the Titan's perspective.
So no, I mean, listen, Lamar is the reason that
they were fourteen in two last year, the number one seed.
They were so hot going to the playoffs. But you know,
to whom much has given, much is expected. And he
was also the reason that they lost that playoff game.
I think both of those things are fair to say
(01:03:14):
when it comes to Lamar Jackson. If you were guessing
just on both teams here, Cleveland um more likely to
compete for the division and in a playoffs spot, or
most likely to be what they were last year. And
be SOMEBI I think Cleveland is more likely to compete
for a playoff spot this year. I truly do I
I I think the schedule is a little bit easier.
(01:03:36):
I think they're more mature. I think the coaching is
going to be better. I think they're a better, more
balanced team with a better offensive line. So I am
high on them to be better. I don't know if
that means playoffs, wild card, whatever, but I do think
they'll be better. And Baltimore same track for fourteen and
two or do they take a step backwards? Two teams
figure out Lamar Jackson a little bit and maybe they're
(01:04:00):
twelve and four or ten and six and tape a
couple of steps backwards. Well, I'll tell you this is
that you look at their schedule, UM, for a team
that finished fourteen and two, it's pretty manageable. I mean
they play the the NFC East and kind of a
cross division things. So you know, there's two wins right
there with the Washington Football team and the New York Giants.
(01:04:22):
And I'm not as high on the Eagles as most
coming into this year. So two two and a half
wins coming out of that division. UM and and it's
just you look at it and there's some there's tough
early games. They play at the Texans and then the
Chiefs early in the season, But you get into the
meat of that schedule, it's a lot of the Bengals twice,
the Patriots, who obviously aren't the same team that they
were last year. Uh. Like I mentioned the Giants, the
(01:04:44):
I don't want to call them the Redskins. That team
in Washington, Washington football team is what they are. So
I I think they'll be good. I don't think they'll
be fourteen and two. I would take a game or
two less in terms of one or two more losses.
I still think they win the division because I think
the schedule, all things considered, isn't that tough? Oh we
got a lot more games to go over. You want
(01:05:05):
to go ahead and jump on in over rated on
the rated? Who to watch out for? Whose year is
it this year? Who we're forgetting about? Aaron Underscore Torres,
I'm instinking genius one. We'll get to some of the
tweets in a little bit first, though, Let's see what's
trending again with our buddy Steve the Sega. What's going
on out there? Can I just say in college football,
you know, we don't have the Big Ten playing maybe yet,
(01:05:26):
and we don't have the Pac twelve playing, and half
of the Big twelve conference is not playing even though
they've been on the field today. Iowa State lost at
home to Louisiana, Kansas State lost at home to Arkansas State,
Texas Tech struggled mightily at home against Houston Baptist, and
Kansas is losing it home to Coastal Carolina three mid
third quarter on FS one. Right now, last year, almost
(01:05:50):
exactly a year ago, Coastal Carolina one at Kansas by
a twelve seven final. Now, Kansas did rebound to get
three whole wins in the season last year. One of
those wins was a narrow one against Texas Tech. Lex
examined Texas Tech tonight. They were horrible. It was a
w thirty five thirty three. But against Houston Baptist, each
(01:06:12):
team had about six hundred yards of offense. I got
to say that again out loud. Houston Baptist had six
hundred yards of offense and Texas Tech tonight, are they
something they are not? I assume FCS not FBS. Texas
Tech in the win thirteen penalties for the Red Raiders,
(01:06:32):
a hundred four yards blowout wins for number one Clemson,
number five Oklahoma, number fourteen ranked Texas, number ten Notre
Dame was only up on Duke's seventeen thirteen early second
half did beat him twenty seven thirteen. I'd like to
see Dame and Houston Baptist next week, that's right, And
everybody's got openings on the schedule, so make it work.
(01:06:52):
And then there's the game at Florida State, which had
two lightning delays early, a long game in Tallahassee, a
long day, and Georgia Tech eventually came back in one
at sixteen thirty. And I'm glad you mentioned earlier. The
double overtime game today U t San Antonio blew elite
and still one and two overtimes at Texas State fifty
one to forty eight. Virginia Techs game next week against
(01:07:13):
Virginia was postponed. The Hokeys have suspended workouts for four
days due to positive virus tests. Baylor will now host
Houston next week after its match up with Louisiana Tech
was postponed, and Houston can't play Memphis next week, so
it just continues and they'll get through a season one
or another. We've seen baseball try and work it out.
Eagles running back Miles Sanders out tomorrow with a hamstring injury.
(01:07:36):
The Lakers eliminated Houston one nine six in Game five
of their Western Conference semi The Lakers from three point
range where nineteen of thirty seven, while Houston the three
point shooting team. Houston was thirteen for forty nine from
long distance, but at least they tried almost fifty. That's
about what they've been doing in this Yeah, I doubled it.
(01:07:58):
Look at that public school education. The Rockets in the
previous two games had attempted only thirty three pointers and
then thirty three pointers. That's quite low for them. If
they had actually shot only thirty three or fewer tonight's,
that would have actually been the first time since November
of that they gone three straight games with that few
(01:08:19):
three point at ten in this postseason, we've seen him
try over fifty three pointers a game on average in
the first round of the playoffs. Regular season, they average
in a forty five in a forty eight minute game.
Here they got their forty nine three point attempts, but
again only thirteen of forty nine. And of course, Daniel House,
Rockets forward was kicked out yesterday the NBA's Orlando Bubble
(01:08:43):
for having an unauthorized guest in his room. His wife
was not happy, but not happy, clearly not happy with that.
Major League Baseball. If Dodger fans had been there to
yell at and scream at the Houston Astros by the
end of the night, they would not have been happy. Tonight.
Houston with five runs in the top of the ninth
to beat l A and closer Kendley Jansen seven five.
(01:09:03):
San Francisco at San Diego postponed again with the Giants
virus test. This week Yankees won in ten innings, Angels
one in eleven innings, and the Cubs got four in
the ninth to win four to at Milwauk. Update College
Football FS one. It's Caroline Coastal Carolina three leading at
Kansas late in the third. Back to you all right,
the Sagrea, Thank you, Welcome back to the Fox Sports
(01:09:25):
Radio studios. It's brought to you by Geico. It's easy
to say fifteen per seven more in car insurance with Geico.
Just go to Geico dot Com or give them a
call one eight hundred nine four seven otto. The only
hard part figuring out which way is easier. Torres doing
two shows, one on the radio, one on Twitter. So
just join us at Twitter at Aaron Underscore Tours. I
(01:09:46):
would stick a genius. Why dude, what am I doing?
I'm excited. It's like you're tons of tweets going on
out there, you know. Uh, yeah, I'm excited about college football.
I'm sorry, sorry, get off my lawn span here, my
bad get off by lawn is gonna be like the
new New England Patriot fans. Uh. They're favored by six
and a half. I don't know why they are because
(01:10:07):
I love the Dolphins to win the Game's trade out right. Um,
it's a new era here in Foxborough and it's not
going to be pretty. I think it's going to be
an ugly game. I like the Dolphins to win this, um,
but not so much more on the Dolphins. It's how
bad the Patriots are. They have no weapons and wide receivers.
Their running backs are hurt. Sony Michelle's been hurt. Harris
(01:10:29):
I think is an active They had to activate J. J.
Taylor from my University of Arizona. Um. Obviously James White
coming back, but they have zero offensive weapons with a
quarterback who hasn't played in about over a year. I
think this is just gonna be one ugly team. It's
gonna be a long year for the Patriots. I don't
care if Belichick was coaching or Vince Lombardi. It's not
(01:10:53):
gonna be a good year for the Patriots. Uh yeah, Listen,
I'm a little higher on them than you are, but
I got them five and five and eleven. You you
and Colin Cowherd. I heard Colin has him about five
and eleven two this year. Um, I think they're gonna
better than five and eleven. But I do think listen,
last time we saw the Dolphins. What last time we
saw the Miami Dolphins on the football field? What happened?
(01:11:13):
Are right? What the final game of the year they
won in Foxboro? Right? Well? That was yeah, that was
I thought that was Week fifteen. But they we thought
they were the worst team in the history of the
NFL last year, and they proved us way wrong. They
played a lot better. Forget about the worst team they're
they're the pretty average the team for for the second
half of the year. Yeah, no, it was definitely the
(01:11:34):
last game of the season because remember it costs the
Patriots home field, so so yeah, at least the first
round by excuse me, but no, listen, I think that
they're confident. I think the fact, you know, Ryan Fitzpatrick,
he's a he you know, we have uh, we have uh,
cold weather quarterbacks and warm weather quarterbacks. In this quarterback,
he's an early season quarterback. If this was Week fourteen
(01:11:55):
with Ryan Fitzpatrick, I wouldn't feel good. But he plays
well early in the season for whatever reason, and again
they had success. They have confidence playing against this Patriots team.
And then of course the Patriots have all the issues
that you just referenced Arnie Well. I was Cam gonna
play after not playing for a year, that's the question.
How how is he gonna play with no weapons around them?
How are the fans going to take it after winning
(01:12:16):
for twenty years and now all of a sudden, you're
gonna be a big loser. Unless there's something that I'm
not seeing. I know they're an easy division, but it's
it's it's gonna be ugly for them. How are the
fans gonna be the react to twenty years of winning
and now all of a sudden losing like we were
talking about earlier in the show. I think for one
season there will be patients. I think people understand this
(01:12:37):
is a rebuild. I think people understand that Belichick one.
A lot of guys opted out, as you just referenced, Arnie.
But I think patients grows thin. I think it's easy
to sit there and say, oh, you know, Belichick's got
a lifetime pass. I don't believe he has a lifetime pass.
Fans want to win. Fan is short for fanatic, and
I think that they will. I think they'll be patient
this year, and I think, by the way I'd had
(01:12:58):
this to Arnie, they gonna be a lot more patient
if Jared Stidon was the quarterback. But now you've got
Cam Yacht's Superman former league m v P. I think
that ratchets up to expectations, whether it's fair or not,
because as you said, he was banged up last year. Honey.
If I'm Bill Belichick, I just did the Subway commercial,
so obviously they paid him. They paid him a lot
of money to do that. If this is a bad year,
(01:13:21):
like I think it is, let's just say I'm right
and they go five and eleven. If I'm Bill Belichick
and I'm coming off of five and eleven season, I'm
saying one more year because if i have to go
through another year of five and eleven, then I'm gonna
call it quits. I'm going to retire. And then people
are gonna go ahead and question how great of a
coach he was because of back to back five and
eleven years. But he's only gonna go through two losing years.
(01:13:42):
If it's back to back, I can see him walking
away from the game. Yeah, you know. To me, I
think all these guys are competitors. And the reason that
Tom Brady went to Tampa Bay is because he wanted
to prove that he could do it without Bill Belichick.
And I think Bill Belichick wants to prove he can
do it without Tom Brady. Now, how years should be enough? Though?
If you're well, that's what I was gonna say, how
big is that window? Before you know, he either either
(01:14:04):
can't get it done or he realizes that maybe tom
Brady had a little bit more part of the um part.
He was a bigger part of the success than Bill Belichick.
Want to give him credit for the one thing I
would say Belichick is fifth sixty eight years old. Excuse me. Uh,
he's no spring chicken. So you talk about two years
from now, are he He's gonna be seventies? So uh
Do I think he has more than two years? I do.
(01:14:26):
But if it just completely goes off a cliff, I
could see that scenario where in two years he just says,
you know what, I gave it a run without Brady.
I'm seventy years old, I got all these Super Bowl rings,
I have nothing else left to prove. I'm out. Any
chance he walks away after this year he's so disenchanted, Well,
my thing is if he played, if they play so bad,
he'll have the number one pick. You can take Trevor Lawrence.
(01:14:46):
Then I'll be happy. So um, any chance he does
walk away, if if they're pretty awful or no, No,
I don't think so. I think he's a competitor, and
I think he wants to prove that this was not
just about Tom Brady. And listen, I'll be honest. I
don't think it was just out Tom Brady. Remember this
is a team that won eleven and five with Matt
Castle as the starting quarterback. They had success when Brady
was suspended for the four games because of the flate gate,
(01:15:07):
So it's not as though they haven't had success. And
now Bill Belichick wants to prove that it was not
just a one year outlier or a couple of game outlier,
that he can do this without Brady. I think he
wants to keep going. I think he's confident in his abilities.
But like he said, aren't He only takes one five
and eleven season to make you re evaluate everything. Roger says, Hey,
staking genius, Why is your co host cutting Belichick so
(01:15:30):
much slack when it's Belichick. That's the reason the Patriots
are in this position, in this position of coming off
all these super Bowl runs, in this position of about
to go five and eleven because he chase Tom Brady
out of town. That's why he should have done what
everybody else wanted him to do. Keep Tom Brady two
(01:15:51):
more years and then retire when Brady retires. That's what
he should have done. I mean, it's easy to say that,
but that's it was easy for me to say that.
But yeah, yeah, you were the same person that was saying, oh,
Tom Brady's done. He's got a dead arm, he's got
he can't do anything. I mean, you know, we we
gotta it's you know, this is the problem with society
(01:16:12):
as a whole, with sports fans as a whole. We
want to live in this particular moment. Okay, we were
on air, you were saying, he's done. He it's over
for him. He can't do it anymore. So like we
have to put ourselves in the position that Bill Belichick
was in in March and April, where he saw Tom
Brady go head to head with DeShawn Watson in the
(01:16:33):
regular season and lose. He saw him go head to
head with Lamar Jackson and get smoked. He saw him
go to head to head with Patrick Mahomes and lose.
I mean, that's part of it. We can't just pretend
like those games didn't happen. It's like an old girlfriend
I broke up with. I want her back. I want
her back. You want to be part of the show
air and under score Torres, I'm instinking genius one. When
we get back, though, Steve the Sager drops on by,
(01:16:54):
We'll talk to him. That's next right here on Fox
Sports Radio, all, Welcome back to the Fox Sports or
Radio studios. This segment brought to you by Geico. As
we check it with the SEGA, what have we knock
out to yet, Well, we still get that one football
game going on FS one. Coastal Carolina was up twenty
eight nothing late in the first half at Kansas. It's
(01:17:15):
now seventeen and the final seconds of the third quarter
because Kansas has just scored, they missed the two point attempts,
so it could go to the end of the third
quarter at And as far as the weather for the
NFL's opening Sunday, not gonna be a problem except for
rain and Buffalo, but it's not gonna be a problem
because five of the games tomorrow are in stadiums that
(01:17:36):
have a roof, including the new Ram Stadium in Inglewood,
which is the Sunday night game the Rams hosting the Cowboys.
As we mentioned last weekend's show, it's it is a roof.
It will stop rain, but it's a translucent roof, it
can let in the sunlight, and it's open on the
ends of the stadium. So it's called an indoor outdoor stadium,
which this weekend is a problem because on the West
(01:17:56):
Coast with the wildfires, air is a definite problem. They've
been talking in San Francisco. Is the air quality going
to be bad enough that we're gonna have to delay
the game or think about moving to another side. I mean,
the Dodgers wound up playing their night game tonight. I
assume they will tomorrow night. The Ram out there, it's
(01:18:17):
there's ash on your car in the morning from the wildfires,
even though there are many miles away. You can't go
for a walk in the neighborhood without a mask on
forgetting the virus for a moment. But as far as
the Bills weather, they will be hosting the Jets. Rain
in the forecast tomorrow all morning and it's supposed to
stop by halftime. That is the current forecast for the
(01:18:37):
Buffalo Bills New York Jets game. What you're gonna see
tomorrow night with the Cowboys visiting the Rams new stadium.
It's in Inglewood, across the freeway from the l A Airport.
It's not at all near downtown. It's not near the
Colisseum or Dodger Stadium. Have you seen it. It's been
all over the news, so in that sense, I've seen it.
And the two teams, the Rams and the Chargers, who
will share it have had scrimmages there, apparently artificial turf
(01:19:01):
because they're not gonna be able to grow it. It's
not like Phoenix where they can just pull the whole
field outside on rollers and grow the grass outside and
then throw it back in for a game. But it's
a seventy thousand seat stadium. And when you hear the
price tag of five billion dollars on the telecast tomorrow night,
keep in mind if they say it's a five billion
dollar stadium, that's completely inaccurate. It's the whole sports and
(01:19:22):
entertainment complex that is, that's a three acre complex which
is supposedly three times the size of Disneyland. They haven't
even put in the restaurants and the office space and
the retail and the apartments and the town homes. The
NFL network headquarters are gonna be there at this complex
at the Rams Stadium, but no fans until further notice,
(01:19:43):
not even selling season tickets this year. Again, the field
level is a hundred feet down into the earth. They
couldn't build a super tall stadium because of course l
A X is nearby. The airplanes go to land at
the airport nearby, so they need to be able to
fly safely over the football stage. Um. There are adjustable
openings in that translucent roof that can slide like a sunroof,
(01:20:06):
so they can kind of play with the wind theoretically.
But the roof is translucent and it will shade the
fans on a Sunday afternoon. They say from about half
of the heat of the sun. There will be a
college football national championship there in the future, super Bowl
after this year, it's gonna be h what after next season?
They never want to have a Super Bowl. The first
year of stadium is open. The Olympics are due to
(01:20:27):
be in l a basketball well in theory, because you
have a roof, you could have something like that that
I think they might have given a Final four they're
already believe it or not, but I couldn't be mistaken
that they're supposed to have bowl games every December and
college football there. And what's going to be the attraction
inside is the massive oval shaped video screen that they
(01:20:49):
built on the floor and then hoisted up to its
permanent spot hanging over the field from steel rafters. It
will project images of video and stats on both sides.
It's an artificial lake outside the stadium. Too, by the way,
and this is on the site of the old Hollywood
Park racetrack which used to so it's the it's the stadium,
(01:21:14):
there's a public plaza, the community park and a lake there.
It's just it's everybody's calling it the new jewel of
the NFL. We'll all get to see it with an
actual game taking place there Cowboys at Rams tomorrow. I
I wish I was out there to see that. Well,
wish you guys want to see that too, all right,
thanks to Sager. Two hours or in the books and
the Power Hours coming up next. Always still got more.
(01:21:35):

is the Power Hour of the show. We got allow

Vegas in about twenty past the hour. We'll talk to
(01:22:17):
Bernie the latest on what's happening in the Big Ten,
recap what happened in college football, and get you ready
for week one of the NFL our picks are coming
up at about forty five past the hour, just real quick,
just to kind of touch back up on some of
the stuff. The saga said, how is it out there
with the fires? I mean, obviously you want you to
be safe. How's the breathing? They say that they may
(01:22:40):
cancel some games if their quality is not good out there,
you know, yeah, yeah, I can't speak to what it's
like in San Francisco where that conversation is happening. Uh,
the Dodgers did play today in l A, So I
guess that's a good sign. But well, but just for
people that don't know, Jovis Revene that's up there. Um,
the weather's quite cooler up there. You get a lot
(01:23:01):
of wind. I'm thinking that the air quality is better
up there than you would get when you're getting off
that mountain there, you know what I mean? Yeah, what
I would say is, you know, thankfully, you know, my
family and I have not had to evacuate or anything
like that. But it is, as the sager said, I
mean it looks like I mean I can even send,
excuse me sending a picture during the break, but it
(01:23:21):
looks like there's just a big rain cloud over the
whole city. But there's no rain, right, It's just a
big cloud of smoke. We haven't seen the sun where
I live in about four days now. Yeah. I get
up early, and I always like to, you know, we
we sleep with the air conditioning on because you know,
we can't sleep with the smoke. And I try to
open the window every morning just to see what it's like.
(01:23:42):
And it smells literally, aren't I'm not kidding, like we're
we're we slept next to a campfire. I mean, it's
that serious. It's when you when you go out walking
you get back or your clothes like all yeah, I mean,
I I'm not even kidding. I went out to get
lunch yesterday and just being outside for five or ten minutes,
you could feel it in your eyes. Yeah, just you know,
you know that burning that you feel when you stay
(01:24:04):
next to a camp fire for too long. So I
can't speak for the whole staff. I hope obviously everybody
that works here at Fox Sports Radio and certainly everybody
listening is safe. But it's it's it's a real thing, man,
It's a real thing, and it's obviously and the crazy
thing is it's all up and down the West Coast.
I was talking to somebody up in Seattle. They have
some similar issue. It's a deal in Oregon, um. And yeah,
and I just hope everyone stays safe because it's a
(01:24:25):
scary deal. Now. I don't have numbers on how bad
the air quality is, but just what you're describing now
is still not good. Um, bad enough for them to
cancel the games, right, it has to be what worse
it's gotta be. Do you think they'll cancel any of
the games? Or no, you don't think that will happen.
I really don't know, Arnie. I don't know what it's
like up in San Francisco. Um. But you know, to
(01:24:47):
Sega references in his most recent update and last segment,
is that it it is in consideration to not play
that game, or to postponent or to push it back
later in the week. Um. I don't know, but I
just know, uh, I I would just say, like how
it is here in l A, at least where I live.
It sounds crazy because I'm Mr. You know, throughout this
whole coronavirus, I was MR. You gotta push through in play,
(01:25:08):
figure out a way. But if there was an outdoor
stadium where I live, I couldn't imagine there being an
n G. Yeah, and some people were surprised that the
forty Niners did practice on Friday. The air quality index
if it gets up to two hundred, that's the dangerous level.
It was on Friday, still practiced in the Bay Area.
(01:25:28):
If you've seen any Twitter pictures this week of the
skies and the orange outside the San Francisco Stadium a stadium,
it's just crazy what's going on. So the NFL at
least has contingency plans if the air quality index does
reach two or above. It was close to that Friday.
I have not heard of it actually getting up to
(01:25:49):
two hundred to make up the games, to cancel them
and make them up during the or just or just
hold it at night. If it gets better then as
opposed to a day game, so go ahead and change.
It's the good thing about the Rams moved to a
new stadium which they've built, is that it's in Inglewood
by the airport, which is coastal, which is farther away
from where the wildfires, farther away from the Pasadena area,
(01:26:11):
for example, and not at all close to downtown or
Dodger Stadium or any of that. And you're right what
you mentioned earlier. Dodger Stadium does overlook downtown, so that
it does have some height. It's a little bit different. Well, oh,
it's so cool up there. It's so cold, you know. Well,
something I heard in passing today, which was a good
point brought up by a lot of people, is we've
spent so much time talking about this big twelve, big
(01:26:31):
ten pack twelve stuff. Today was the day Ohio State
was supposed to play at Oregon. Uh. And you know,
I don't know what it's like in Eugene. I don't
know if we have any listeners up there. But basically,
there's a lot of people that said, even if the
Big tenant Pac twelve had been playing without COVID, this
game and Eugene might not have been able to happen today.
Craig sends this and he goes, I will attest the
(01:26:52):
smoke is visible in Seattle, was stening up there. It
was gloomy outside and dark in my condo at one
o'clock on a Saturday. So um in Eugene, Oregon, by
the way, in Eugene University of Oregon is there, the
air quality was listed as hazardous. Yeah, no, it's it's
it's definitely it's scary man. And uh and I didn't
(01:27:14):
realize until the last couple of days how bad it
was in Oregon, in Washington State, and so we hope
everybody stays safe. But but what um that listener just
referenced is something that I think most of us that
live here in the l A area of dealt with.
Is that I mean to say, I mean you can
speak to it. It's you walk outside and your eyes
burn it without working in the yard Friday and came
(01:27:35):
back and felt it. Yeah. And by the way, I
mentioned hazardous in Eugene, that's pretty much. That's that's beyond unhealthy,
beyond very unhealthy. That's like kids shouldn't be outdoors type
of Wow, that's insane. Everybody stays safe out there. We'll
see if it affects any of the NFL games. You
want to get in Aaron underscore tours of've it Stinking
Genius one as we continue to look at a Week
(01:27:56):
one of the NFL. Just before we do that, though,
we were wrapping up college football, um, talking about really
our first full week of college football. This is the
real first taste of it? Was it not Torres or what? Yeah?
I think so. I think having some of the bigger
brand names on the field, Notre Dame Florida Stadium, yeah,
Clemson exactly, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Texas schools like that, so listen.
(01:28:18):
It would have been great if we got some super
markeee matchups. But as I referenced to lead the show
for people, don't understand why did the A, C, C
and Big twelve kind of dip their toe in when
they made these schedules five six, seven weeks ago. We
didn't know what it was gonna be like the first
or second weekend of September. I think those leagues played
it safe. They didn't want to have to cancel a
(01:28:38):
marquee game off the top of the season. So we
got a couple of games and it felt good, and
then hopefully as the weeks go on, we get some
of these bigger, more high profile games. I don't want
to make this too simplastic, but there are gonna be
the revote tomorrow right on the Big ten whether they
want to go ahead and have some type of season.
Why are you revoting if you aren't going to change
your mind? Um? And by the way, what bit of
(01:29:01):
news have have they gotten to take the revote? Is
that they're just seeing everybody else play, they go we
better revote, or um, you know what's going to happen.
What happens if there's two or three teams that don't
want to play, well, they just set it out and
the rest will play. I I don't know what's gonna
I'm kind of curious. I wish I could see the
vote live, you know, Yeah, I definitely I would love
(01:29:21):
to see the vote live. That'd be the TV. Yeah,
that'd be the highest rated thing in college football this
year if they did it live. But I think Bernie's
gonna have some good updates for us in the next segment.
For people don't know, Bernie spent a big chunk of
his career in Michigan. He's really plugged in over there. Um.
What I'm interested in, Arnie is what you said, is
what what is going to be the logic in changing.
(01:29:44):
And by the way, I'm mr I want college football.
I want Ohio State in Michigan and Penn State in Wisconsin.
But nothing has changed other than other teams were able
to pull it off. Something's changed was when you're like,
I'll go back to the analogy of a relationship, when
you break up with your girlfriend, your feel and good
until you see your girl ex girlfriend with your best
friend that all of a sudden you get you you
(01:30:05):
don't like that, you know what I mean, Well, maybe
it shouldn't be your best friend, but no, listen, I
I get it. And that's gonna be the big thing
is how do they spin it publicly because the only
new information is that other teams are playing and they're
jealous the lack of or they're jealous that they're not
playing and everybody's getting away with it. Well, and it
(01:30:26):
just proves you know, I can't remember what your opinion
was when it happened already, but my opinion was never
that they were wrong to cancel the season. My opinion
was they were wrong to cancel the season when they
did it. Yes early, there had for people who do
not remember, they had not had a single padded practice.
They had just actually gotten onto the field for walkthroughs
(01:30:49):
about a week before, and so to cancel it without
even trying was absolutely absurd. And they're just getting exposed
more and more. These teams are playing. Obviously, there are
some out rakes. Don't want to make that light, you know,
take that lightly. Some teams have had to cancel. But
there are a lot of programs that are able to
pull this off. We got a game on still at
one ten Eastern time Kansas and Coastal Carolina. Coastal Carolina
(01:31:13):
can pull it off, Arnie. There's no reason Ohio State
in Michigan canon for a sport that had plenty of
time to get its act together. Um, the NBA, Major
League Baseball, and NHL certainly did a much better job
with very with a lot less time than college football did.
They weren't prepared for this, and that's why you see
(01:31:33):
three Power five conferences playing in two Power five conferences
not playing in one revoting tomorrow. It's a complete mess
out there, you know. Yeah, no, And the bottom line
is the big mistake that college football made was that
they had all summer, all off season to figure out
a plan and their only plan, Arnie, was it'll probably
(01:31:54):
be good by September. We'll be fine, And so they
let everybody back on campus. There were obviously outbreaks, and
then things didn't move in the directions that they had hoped,
and they just they you know, I think the people
in the Big Ten panic. I think they panicked. But
I also think that they felt like everyone is gonna
follow us and follow our lead, and we're gonna lead
the way, and it's just not the case. They were
(01:32:16):
just flat out wrong on this, Arnie. They were just
flat out wrong. Aaron underscore Torres, I'm a stinking genius
one Bernie Fratto in a couple of minutes, so um,
Green Bay, Minnesota. As we talked more about the NFL
Week one, Is there ever such a game of of
must win game in Week one? But I feel like
Green Bay on the road, Aaron Rodgers has so much
to prove. Does he have enough weapons around them? I
(01:32:39):
don't think they'll win the division because I think it's
Minnesota's division. They're the best team in it. But this
is a monster matchup in the first week, and uh
in Minnesota. I can't wait to see how where Aaron
Rodgers comes out. You know, yeah, well that's what it is.
I don't think it's must win in my opinion, but
I do think that I want to see how he
plays because I mean, look, you talk about a guy
that now has a chip on his show older. Yeah,
(01:33:01):
like like, okay, Aaron Rodgers was pretty good without having
a rookie breathing down his neck. And I know Jordan's
Love isn't breathing down his neck. But but you know, listen,
there's no we know why that organization drafted Jordan's Love
and that is to be the air apparent to Aaron Rodgers.
And I don't blame a Marty. It goes back to
when the draft happened in April, and we talked about it, is,
(01:33:22):
you know, to to use that selection, a first round
pick when that offense was so deficient against the San
Francisco forty Niners last year. And I know they made
the NFC Championship Game, and I get that, but they
got punked on every level of that. They couldn't run
the ball, they couldn't pass the ball, they couldn't block,
and to use that first round pick on a quarterback
(01:33:43):
is inexcusable. I understand why Aaron Rodgers met oh um
um every every play, every quarter, every game. I want
to run up the stats. I just don't know if
he has enough offensive weapons. I think that the second
best team because I don't think Chicago and Detroit, who
are going to be better at least Detroit is um
(01:34:03):
has enough against Green Bay. But that's that's one tough
division top the bottom. Maybe the best division in football.
I think the NFC North, Yeah, I mean I would
say the NFC West the best. I mean, somebody just
chimed in and asked me about the Arizona Cardinals. I mean,
there are four teams that I think are good enough
to make the playoffs in that division. All four teams,
I think when you look at the NFC West, to me,
(01:34:25):
that's the best division. I think you can make the
case the NFC North. There is maybe second. I don't
even know if I would make that case, but I
think you could. I think the NFC West is the best, though.
Ken says the current air quality for San Jose, sant
and Clara one well below San Francisco in Seattle, and
Alex says, I live in Eugene, Oregon. That's where he's
probably listening to the show, and there's absolutely no way
(01:34:47):
there would have been a game today. The smoke is
so bad it's even hitting the floor no longer. Just
above the city. The weather app just says smoke and hazardous.
So that sounds horrible. That sounds for those listening in Eugene,
Portland's any of these areas that are infected be safe
because you know we live in I live in l A.
(01:35:08):
It is crazy over here, so I hope everybody listening
is be safe. Alright, coming up next, Bernie Fratto, He's
gonna give us the latest info on the big Tent.
I can't wait to hear what he's got. And then
let's start taking a look at Week one NFL. Who
does Bernie like, where the most money coming in? On?
What's the biggest line change? All that coming up next
(01:35:28):
right here on Fox Sports Radio. Alright, everybody, good evening,
Aaron Torres, Arnie Spaniard. Let me tell you about blue
EMU maximum pain relief. You see, it works fast and
you won't stink. It's also pharmacists recommended odor free pain
relief for muscle pain, backache, strains, sprains, even our thritest.
Matter of fact, there's no stinging or burning involved. It's
(01:35:51):
just simple pain relief. It's blue EMU maximum pain relief,
works fast and you won't stink. Alright, let's get out
to our guests. He comes up at the top of
the hour, has his own show straight out of Vegas.
It's our buddy, Bertie Frattel Bertie. What is the latest
on the Big Ten? They're going to get the revote tomorrow? Well,
first of all, the revote is going to be sometime
(01:36:13):
in the next seventy two hours. Uh it maybe tomorrow,
It may be as latest Tuesday. What has happened is
earlier this morning a medical panel met with what you
would call a Big ten subcommittee of presidents, and it
was a very favorable meeting, having to do with some
updates with testing procedures. Taking a page from the Pack twelve, now,
(01:36:37):
let me try to unpack this so it makes some
sense for you. The Pack twelve has actually been in
cahoots with the Big Ten the last week and a half.
Larry Scott, the Pack twelve commissioner, finally admitted it, and
they're of the belief that they can't get the thing
going in October. At least they'll start around Thanksgiving and
with no NBA, NHL college football be done, they'll on
(01:36:58):
the TV airwave. So that's a fallback plan. But in
the meantime, the PAC twelve actually partnered with a company
out of San Diego called Kwaidell and Quai Dell has
an antigen test that will we will give you a
result at COVID result in fifteen minutes. And that's a
game change because if you got a game at noon
and everybody tests at nine am, and you know in
(01:37:20):
fifty you get the picture. So what's happening now is
they are studying the various UH efficacy. They're studying the
efficacy of this test over the next thirty days. And
why I don't think October tenth is reality anymore. They
have an outside chance to maybe get on the field
and later October because the Big Ten has other agendas here.
(01:37:43):
They really want Ohio State to have a crack at
the national championship and they want to be part of
the you know, larger tapestry. The PAC twelve. The athletes
are excited, they're starting to warm up to this. And
by the way, it's not just football, it's other fall
sports and winter sports as well, So if they can
pull this off, uh, we might find ourselves in a
(01:38:03):
situation where we could see Big ten Pack twelve football
in the fall later in the fall. I'm making no predictions.
There's still lots of divisions in the room. I think
there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I'll
have more information by Tuesday, but for now, again, I
know everybody's hoping you know, some other network, that four
letter network, I think, so they're having the vote tomorrow
(01:38:25):
where they might but it's not. The vote will be
sometime in the next seventy two hours. So stay tuned
because there's light at the end of the tunnel. So Burn,
let me ask you this. And I don't know how
much intel you might have on this, but there's so
much differing opinion about you know, did Ryan Day's comments hurt,
did they help? Did they not matter? Some people are
saying that the presidents did not like a coach being
(01:38:47):
so outspoken. Because to me, you can sit there and
say that you know, you returned to Thanksgiving, you return
around Thanksgiving, and I think the Big Ten, the presidents
that that aren't involved in sports, think oh, we're bringing
them back in twenty nine. That's what they want. But
if you bring them back in Thanksgiving, Ohio State isn't
(01:39:08):
competing for that championship, and it does feel I'm sorry,
it'll feel like a JV football season. There's no way
around it. So what I guess what I'm asking is
you said that you know they're gonna try to spin
this where it just feels like they're gonna try to
spin this and tell us that Thanksgiving is the best
they could do, and it's you should be happy with it.
But I don't think the players or fans will be
(01:39:29):
happy if they come back on Thanksgiving, Bernie, I don't. Yeah,
It'll be a disjointed, fractured season, no question, But at
this point, Thanksgivings better than nothing. So I think what
we have to do is not look too far down
the road and speculate as to white might what might happen.
Let's see where this vote comes in. Let's see how
these tests from Quidell work in terms of what the
(01:39:50):
medical UH panels for each conference feel in terms of
the efficacy and the safety, and then we'll go from there.
But it's a fluid situation. I probably have reports for
every week, Bernie. Let's get a week one. First of all,
is the money pouring in a Week one of the NFL,
and um, who's getting the most money? Which game? Well,
Tampa Bay, UH New Orleans is getting the most handled
(01:40:12):
because there's a fairly equal action on both sides. But yes,
the handle is huge. When I was on the air
with you and Aaron last Monday Night, I was mildly
curious if that B y U Navy game was getting
any action, and I found that from the sports book
directors a couple of days later. It got huge. He
got huge action. As a matter of fact, Yes, it
ended up getting about as much as you would get
(01:40:34):
on a typical Monday night NFL game. And that's saying something.
So you can expect the handle to be humongous tomorrow
or less than twelve hours from kickoff. And the beauty
of it is now you know, you look to, you
look to a situation where where do you find that
edgine opening day? And there are multiple UH trends angles,
I prefer to use the word angle. One that you
(01:40:56):
cannot deny is that Week one Division dogs since two
thousand and fourteen, twenty one and five against the spread.
That's eight four, fourteen and twelve straight up on the
money line, and there are three division dogs. I absolutely love.
We talked about this one the other day. Cleveland catching
eight and a half, that's long gone, that's now crossed
(01:41:17):
down through eight seven and a half, and now Cleveland's
only getting seven of the tickets are on Baltimore now,
no fans. There are a couple of reasons I like
this game hardball only John Harbor only four ten and
one his last fifteen as a home favorite. Again, we've
got the trend divisional dogs twenty one and five. I
(01:41:39):
like Kevin Stefanski. He's an old school guy. They're gonna
have a fullback. Cleveland's gonna actually have a very good
running game with Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb. They'll bring
two tight ends. They're gonna be a run first offense.
They'll be improved offensively. I think they hang around tomorrow
and make it very interesting. Remember they were there Week
four last year, beat Baltimore outright forty to twenty five,
and they were on getting five points that day, So
(01:42:01):
you're getting a bargain here. The other game I like.
Hopefully they played tomorrow. If not, it could be pushed
to Monday. Arizona Cardinals getting seven in San Francisco, another
divisional dog, a lot of points on hearing San Francisco
has got some injuries on offense. The Super Bowl loser
Week one the following year since two thousand, only six
(01:42:22):
and fifteen against the number. I think Arizona keeps it tight.
The only stadium you're gonna have fans tomorrow, by the way,
is Jacksonville. Ironically, all the all the yeah, it's the
only one I am understanding that will have fans. And
the third game and I really like this a lot.
I really like Tampa Bay tomorrow catching three and a
half points. By the way, it looks like Mike Evans
(01:42:43):
is gonna play. They got his hamstring under control. Look,
Tampa Bay is a team that turned the ball over
forty one times and they were still seven and nine.
The last team to turn the ball over forty one
times in the season were the Owen sixteen Cleveland Browns.
Now Tampa was seven and seven with two games to go.
They had Atlanta and Houston beat until Jami's through six
(01:43:05):
interceptions in those two games. Brady will have more weapons
than he's ever had, and you had Leonard four net
by the way a thousand yards on the ground and
five receiving plus. Bruce arians always has his team's ready
early on. He's seven and two against the spread in
September as an underdog. He gets his team prepared early.
And the Saints notoriously, as you know, incredibly slow starters
(01:43:28):
one five straight up and six against the spread last
six season openers. You've got that rare situation where Tom
Brady is a dog on opening day. No fans in
New Orleans, and that's a big thing. You'll be able
to hear themselves think I like U, I like Tampa
Bay plus three and a half to complete the trifectaam
are Those are three plays that fall into that trend.
(01:43:50):
Kind of a broader, bigger picture question. Burn Um. Obviously
the reason that you're having so much success in your
career and and so many other people are R. J.
Bell as well as because, uh, we're living in a
world where legalized gambling is just becoming more and more
of the norm. How how different does it feel around
football season this year compared to years past, maybe nationally
(01:44:11):
outside of Vegas because of all these new trends with
legalized gambling. Well, that's a great question, and people are
listening nationally, and the truth of the matter is, there's
been an incredible impact since the advent of legalized sports bedding,
legalized and regulated sports betting is what you really call it.
It continues to impact the entire country and it's just
a tip of the iceberg right now. The NFL and
(01:44:33):
their member teams, they've formed twenty six marketing and data
sharing partnerships in the last two years. So now you've
got eighteen states plus Washington, d C. Now offer legal,
regularly or regulated sports bedding, and with another four they're
not yet operational yet, but there are another four states
that will be coming on board soon and seven more
considering it, You've got plenty of jurisdictions around the country
(01:44:56):
since it started the NFL season last fall, and you're
talking about thirty three million people tomorrow, most likely in
some form or fashion, will have a bet, a legal
bet on the on the games in the NFL. That's
a fifty increase from just last year alone, So it's
a massive impact. This is here to stay, it's only
(01:45:16):
going to grow, and all the states are getting better
at it. Burning before we let you go, you're not
an over under a guy, you're not thinking maybe games
are low scoring week number one or what? Well, guys,
we talked about this two weeks ago. Uh it had
already hit Thursday Night. UH teams that are laying seven
points or more week one with a combined total of
(01:45:38):
to the over week one in that game. Now it
landed on fifty four. Some people got into fifty four.
But if you get it at the sent off line
at fifty two, you cash that over. Arizona also falls
into that category. Tampa Bay, Neworldans also fall into that
category as well. What's fun? You know? What's you know?
The football is here when you start to hear these
wacky bets. A guy walked into the MGM the other
(01:45:58):
day and put a ten hours and on the Chiefs
minus nine point minus nine and a half to win.
That cashed. Another guy put a hundred grand on the
Chiefs under a fifty three and a half. Can you
imagine that other person over at the garage put fifty
five thousand on Chiefs Texts over a fifty three and
(01:46:19):
a half to win fifty grand. So three bets alone,
two d and sixty thousand dollars. You know football, Bernie
real quick, I we I know we gotta get to
the sigare here in a second, but how does that work?
Does somebody walk in with a briefcase full of cash
or they just have a line of credit. I mean,
ninety thou dollars isn't a small chunk of change. Both ways,
I've seen people with cash more often than now. People
(01:46:41):
open up accounts more often than so that's boring. I
want the bag of cash, just a bag of singles,
That's right. Can you imagine is really Wonka once said,
the suspense is terrible. I hope it will last. I
love it. I love Bertie Fatto coming up at the
top of the hour, straight out of Vegas. A must
listen to Bernie always a pleasure. Will be us sick
at the top of the hour. Thanks, thank you, appreciated
(01:47:03):
Bertie Fratto, love talking to him. Well, let's see what's trending.
Final checking with the SEGA. What's going on out there?
A lot of NFL to get to. We can update
that college game. By the way, it's still Coastal Carolina
in the lead on FS one with about four minutes
to go thirty five three at Kansas. He mentioned for
the NFL tomorrow one of the late afternoon games. San
Francisco do to host the Cardinals with very bad air
(01:47:25):
quality in the Bay Area due to the wildfires. It
is as of today schedule to kick off on time,
the air quality index needs to stay under two hundred.
It was under one ninety today according to the San
Jose Mercury News. So we'll see. They do say that
it's smoke, so it's not a weather front. It's not
as predictable as that on your evening news. So it
(01:47:47):
just sounds like it will happen. But if it doesn't,
now you know forty wide receiver Deebo Samuel will miss
at least three weeks after foot surgery this summer he
goes on i R. Defensive back Josh Norman now with Buffalo,
was placed on injured reserve with a ad hamstring, so
he'll miss at least three games this year. You're not
out for the year, certainly with injured reserve at least
three weeks. Tampa Bay has upgraded wide receiver Mike Evans
(01:48:09):
to questionable. He's not doubtful anymore due to the hamstring.
He could play tomorrow in the Big Game on Fox TV.
Bucks versus Saints Sunday at four Eastern. Denver wide receiver
Courtland Sutland as questionable for Monday night. Sutton may not
play against Tennessee. He hurt his shoulder in practice this week.
Titans passed rusher Vic Beasley is out with a knee injury,
(01:48:30):
and Tennessee defensive back of Dory Jackson is out with
a knee injury. Lyons wide receiver Kenny Golladay was listed
as doubtful with a hamstring injury. Detroit will host the
Bears Sunday. We mentioned last week and the Patriots for
the moment didn't have an active kicker. They have activated
Nick Folk from the practice squad. The Bears activated kicker
Cairo Santos. Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders is out
(01:48:50):
tomorrow with a hamstring injury. Reportedly, he's not even making
the trip to Washington for the opener. Saints running back
Alvin Camara agreed to a five year extension worth up
to seventy five million dollars. The Vikings gave running back
Dalvin Cook a five year extension worth up to sixty
three million dollars, and the Rams gave wide receiver Cooper
Cup a three year extension worth forty eight million dollars.
(01:49:10):
The Rams are monitoring l a's air quality for the
Sunday night game hosting the Cowboys in the new RAM
Stadium in Englewood. To college football, it is four minutes left.
Coastal Carolina might be winning at Kansas back to back years.
The visitors are up thirty five twenty three easy wins
for Clemson, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Texas quarterback Sam Ellinger
(01:49:30):
in a fifty nine three went over Utah. You tap.
It was just in the first half. He was twenty
four of thirty two passing four hundred twenty nine yards
and five touchdowns. He threw one pass in the second half,
so you tap had eight ponds. Texas at eight touchdowns.
Number five Oklahoma was on pay per view against Missouri State.
The Sooners led thirty one nothing after the first quarter.
(01:49:53):
Spencer Ratler four touchdown passes. First half Sooners over six
hundred yards total forty eight nothing. The final Missouri stay
seven first downs, nine punts on third down conversions, they
were over eleven and number one. Clemson was up thirty
seven three at Wake Forest in the fourth quarter thirty
seven thirteen the final The Clemson defense had six sex
wake as a team thirty four carries just thirty seven
(01:50:15):
yards rushing Trevor Lawrence two touchdown runs and a t
D pass. In fact, he was twenty two of twenty
eight through the year three hundred fifty one yards. Notre
Dame pulled away to beat Duke. North Carolina pulled away
to beat Syracuse. Louisiana with the upset win at Iowa
State Arkansas State. A late t D pass got him
a win at Kansas State. Georgia Tech came back to
win at Florida State to lightning delays early there. Texas
(01:50:38):
Tech at home edged Houston Baptist thirty five thirty three
because Tech stopped to two point conversion with under three
and a half minutes to go. Louisville and West Virginia
each one pit an Army as well. Appalachian State gotta
win in double overtime ut San Antonio forty eight winners
at Texas State, which missed an extra point late in
regulation and missed a twenty hard field goal in the
(01:51:00):
second overtime. NASCAR win for Brad Keslowski. The US Open
went to Naomi, Osaka. NHL Dallas beat Vegas again to one.
The Lakers eliminated Houston one and guys, the Lakers are
back in the Conference Finals for the first time in
a decade. That was this franchise's longest drought. Previously, after
(01:51:21):
Magic Johnson, they went seven years without a Conference finals appearance.
But what a turnaround. Just dominance at the end of
this series tonight. It was two quick time outs from Houston.
They were down thirty three eleven late first quarter. You know.
Once the Lakers took the lead in Game three and
the fourth quarter, they didn't trail the rest of the series.
The Lakers. The Lakers won the last hundred six minutes
(01:51:44):
you could say of this series and the game on
Fox TV, the ball game the Dodgers were hosting. He
hated Houston and the Stro's got five and the ninth
to beat Kenley Jansen in l A seven five. Back
to you all right, thanks to Sega. Welcome back to
the Fox Sports Radio studios. It's all brought to you
by Geico. It's easy to say fifteen percent of more
in consurance with Geico. Just go to Geico dot com
(01:52:04):
or give them a call one eight hundred nine for
seven otto. The only hard part, Well, that's figuring out
which way is easier. Coastal Carolina trying to run out
this clock through up thirty three left in this one,
and they've got a third in goal. Dallas Cowboys though,
their favorite over the Rams in Los Angeles. Dallas is
(01:52:24):
my super Bowl pick. I got Kansas City and Dallas
going to the Super Bowl. I think Dallas is loaded. Um,
I don't have to go tell you what they have
on offense. Obviously is zekol Elliott with the wide receivers,
and I think docs seven months the year, they'll go
as far as that defense will take it, which I
think is a lot better than people give it a
credit for. I think they get the win over the
Rams in that first game, and I don't even know
(01:52:45):
what the Rams are coming into this season, you know see.
And that's what I was gonna ask you, is I
feel like the Rams. I mean, listen, it was only
eighteen months ago that they were in the Super Bowl.
And I get it, Todd Gurley was well, I don't
even think at that point he was playing at a
high level, and there was other vets on the defense.
But it's like I look at that team and I
just say, like, I understand right, they're much younger. They
(01:53:07):
obviously they went for broke that first year when they
made the Super Bowl, and last year didn't work out well.
But they lost basically on the last second field goal
at Seattle. They played San Francisco right down in the
wire in Santa They worked that far away from being
a respectable solid playoff team last year. I feel like
people are sleeping on the Marty. I really do hard division,
(01:53:29):
as you mentioned, but that Dallas Division not that tough.
Matter of fact that you think Philadelphia is overrated, which means, um,
Dallas has already cuinched that division for the most part,
have they not. I mean, it's not gonna be the
Giants or or Washington, is it. It's definitely not gonna
be the Giants or Washington. I think I think they're
more likely to be battling it out for the right
(01:53:49):
to draft Trevor Lawrence than they are, uh to be
battling it out for a playoff birth But I'll bring
up Philadelphia Washington then, Um, I do think Philadelphia has
a tad bit over right. They'll make a run and
making a playoff as a second uh uh second place
team in that division. I don't think Washington is as
bad as we're making him out to me. I think
(01:54:10):
actually there's gonna be a good game tomorrow, and I'm
not even sure Philodelph he is going to win this one.
But I think Phildelphia is overrated coming into this year.
So you know, I do think that Philly, Oh, I
was gonna stay with Washington. I think they're gonna play
hard for Ron Rivera, but I just don't think they're
very talented. So you know, I don't know about tomorrow.
But in the bigger picture, I'm not a big Philly guy.
(01:54:33):
They can't stay healthy, the Reds and not. I just
did it the football team in Washington. I think they'll
play hard for Ron Rivera. I just don't think they're
very talented. Aren't here? I really don't. Are you on
the River's bandwagon like everybody else the ah As, you'll
be disappointed. Look, there'll be an average team, they'll be
eight and eight. But if you think they're going to
the playoffs and make it a run, you're gonna be
(01:54:54):
so many mistaken. Let me flip it on you. Yeah,
go ahead, we'll stay in that division. I feel like
the typ are completely overrated. I think they got some
great matchups. And I get it, Derrick Henry was awesome
last year, but they got some great matchups. And let's
never forget the Patriots had the chance to beat them
in that game. They lose that game. Uh, nobody's talking
(01:55:15):
about them as this this you know, dangerous team coming
into this year. I do like the Colts. I mean,
you know, we were filling in for Jason the other day,
Jason and Mike on on the on the Monday Night Show,
and Gavin was our producer. Gavin is Mr Charger, and
he's adamant that it was the offensive line, that it
was a lot of the pieces around Phil Rivers more
than it was Philip Rivers himself. So I am buying
(01:55:38):
that Colts kool aid. I think he's got something to
prove and that was another team. They really weren't that
bad last year. All things considered, he's gonna have a
much better offensive line. I think they'll be interesting. Well,
then they should pretty much crush Jacksonville, who's going to
be an awful team or my or they maybe not
that bad when we're talking about Jacksonville. Well, the one thing,
and it's something that it goes without saying it. I
(01:56:00):
do think it's sometimes gets under reported in these conversations.
Is just because the organization is trading away good pieces
to try and get a good position for the draft
next year. The players in the locker room are still
trying to win games, and the coaching staff is still
trying to win games. We saw that last year with
the Miami Dolphins, and so I think Indie win. All right.
(01:56:22):
I don't think Jacksonville wins tomorrow. But I also don't
think it's this foregone conclusion that they're just gonna be
one in fifteen or two in fourteen or something like that. Uh,
Aaron on the score, Toras, I'm instinking genius one. Coming
up next are picks Are Picks, Are picks, and we
want your picks. That's all next right here on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, welcome back to the Fox Sports
(01:56:45):
Radio studios. This segment brought to you by Geico. Alright,
this is what people want to hear. Give us a
little music, put us in the mood, let's get to
our picks. What we're gonna say, tores No, I was
gonna say that's what people want to hear. Go ahead,
Arn'tie let's do it. Give us mus because we start
off at the top. And I gotta tell you, I
really really love the Miami Dolphins. I don't want the
(01:57:06):
sixth and hal, I don't need the six half. I'm
gonna take the sixth and half. First of all, there's
so much improved over last year when they really kind
of shocked me. And I think their defense is a
hell of a lot better. But this is more about
anti New England. As I mentioned earlier in the show.
No weapons at the wide receiver other than Edelman. I've
got doubts about him. No weapons at the running back
(01:57:27):
Sony Michelle, but Damian Harris out. Sony Michelle has been injured.
They had to activate J. J. Taylor. The defense was
only about Look, the defense was really good last year,
but it wasn't great like everybody made it out to
be when they started seven and oh and the same
thing goes this year too. By the way, I think
Stefan Gilmour not playing in this game. But overall, I
(01:57:50):
love the Dolphins. Plus the sixth and a half, I
think that's a steal. Yeah, I don't discree with you
on that. I'm gonna start with the game that I
know you're gonna get too in a minute, and that
is with Baltimore and Cleveland. And listen, I'm doing it again,
Artie span Here, I'm drinking the Browns kool Aid. Brown
kool Aid, probably not good, probably not safe to drink.
And I may regret this come tomorrow afternoon. But I
(01:58:12):
do think this organization is revamped. I think they have
a lot to prove, and they took care of the
biggest dish, two biggest issues, which were coaching. They got
rid of Freddie Kitchens and they improved the offensive line
in the off season. I think Cleveland keeps it close.
Baltimore wins outright, but Cleveland cover seven and a half.
You know, we're in a game. We didn't mention the
Buffalo Bills in the New York Jets Big a f C.
(01:58:34):
The divisional matchup here people saying that the Bills are
the favorite over the Patriots. Now to win that division,
they pick up Stefon dig So I think it's going
to add all kinds of stuff to Josh Allen and
help that Buffalo Bills team. I don't think the Jets
are ready for this one. Now they'll get a benefit
of playing with no fans there, but um, Buffalo is
ready to roll this year. It's third year. I'm taking
(01:58:55):
the Bills minus the six and a half. You know
my stance on the Jets. I think they might be
the worst team in the league, and I sincerely mean that.
You c J Mosley ops out, Jamal Adams is traded,
and I have never been a Sam Donald guy this organization.
These players do not respect Adam Gates, the head coach.
I think Buffalo rolls. I think the Jets are maybe
(01:59:16):
a little bit more talented than the Giants and the Jags,
but not by much. It's gonna be another long year
for this organization. A game we did bring up earlier
that it's under the radar, but it's a great one
between the Packers and the Vikings. I think the Vikings
are a team that should be considered for Super Bowl
getting to the super Bowl, yet nobody really picking them yet.
I just love this team. And now with Green Bay
(01:59:38):
coming in, I'm not so sure what kind of year
Aaron Rodger's gonna have. Everybody thinks he's gonna have the
year of his life. I'll wait and see on that.
I'll take Minnesota minus two and a half. I am
gonna go to the late window and Chargers bangals. The
debut of Joe Burrow. That is getting the hype. But
I heard a crazy stat Aarnie. The last number number
(02:00:00):
one overall pick that was a quarterback, So that includes
Jamis Winston, that includes Cam Newton Andrew Luck. The last
number one overall pick at quarterback to win his uh
debut as a quarterback in the NFL starting in Week
one was your boy David car Back in two thousand two,
(02:00:20):
and then I think he lost every other game after
that the rest of his career, neither here nor there.
I I love Joe Burrow. I think it's exciting, But
to ask him to go up against Joey Bosa and
that defense with no preseason prep, no preseason games, I
think the Chargers comfortably cover the three points on the rown.
I like that. Let me just bring up another game
(02:00:42):
for the both of us, Pittsburgh and the New York Giants.
How can we're not talking about Big Ben coming back?
We've waited long enough. How's he going to be? Um?
I've got serious doubts that this guy's even gonna be
close to the Hall of Fame quarterback everybody makes him
out to be. I'm not so sure that Pittsburgh is
even above five team. But then again, I'm not crazy
about the Giants and Daniel Jones either. To me, this
(02:01:05):
is a stay away. For what you just said, I
what I'm getting from Pittsburgh, and I don't trust the Giants.
So the last one for me, I will go against
you in the late night game on Sunday. Uh, Dallas.
You love Dallas, but I love the Rams. I just
think the Rams are completely undervalued. It was only eighteen
months ago they were in the Super Bowl, so they
are a slight home dog. Obviously there is no fans
(02:01:28):
in the stands. I like the Rams to win outright.
Give me the Rams money line on Sunday night. All right,
there you have our picks, two of them, as you
please remember now they are no longer strictly for entertainment
purposes only. I gotta wrap things up. Thanks to the crew,
Laker don or technical director of course, Eric Roberts, the
biggest Buffalo Bills fans. So we'll see how veg tomorrow.
(02:01:52):
Thanks to the Sager for my partner Aaron Torres, I'm
back tomorrow with my Sunday partner Chris Pike APM two
eleven PM, Ethic eleven Peter two a Eastern, So make
sure you're tuning in tomorrow. Bernie Fratto, straight out of Vegas.
This is what you came to listen for Vegas Talk
next right here on Fox Sports Radio
