Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. You know, right when
you thought you were gonna get to listen to Bucky Brooks,
right the obituary of one coach in college football, then
this happens. We'll tell you what this is coming up
here in just a couple of moments. That guy right
over there is Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox. This is
Fox Sports Radio. You can check out the show on

(00:23):

Ladies and gentlemen. Everywhere you turn during the football season,

(00:47):
you see this man. If it's not on television, it's online.
If it's not online, you see his work at NFL
dot com. He's calling Thursday night games, he's talking Jags,
he's fighting with Cowboys face and and he is the
proud alarm of the powerhouse known as the North Carolina

(01:07):
football team. Number eight in the country, but number one
in his heart, and ladies and gentlemen make some noise
for that man himself. Bucky boy boy, Yes, yes, yes, boy,

(01:29):
dear North Carolina Blue Bras kind of Jonas Jonas. I like.
I like that intro, and I like the fact that
we got Pete pablo On. I like that we got
the anthem playing. I understand that David Gascott is a
hater because in that update he mentioned a couple of

(01:50):
teams going down, but he didn't mention my number eight, sorry,
who are soon to be nudging towards the top five status.
He didn't talk, he didn't talk about them all. But
that look, I'm telling you, it was seeing what mac
Brown has done coming back to North Carolina. I said
it last week, South Carolina. You know what to do.
You call Steve Spurrier and you say, hey, if they

(02:11):
can do it up North, why can't we do it
here in South Carolina. That's what you do. You you
don't want to bring bad holes. Now we're good, we're yeah, no, no, no, no,
I think lose busy. But we will go ahead and
and we will you know, venture away from that discussion
for right now because Bucky Brooks I was getting set
ready to have a conversation about you, a conversation that

(02:33):
you and I have touched on before, which is the
hell is going on with Texas? Tom Herman on his
way out that that's the conversation I thought we were
going to have, and then all of a sudden, game
winding down Oklahoma at red River on Fox right now
has a two touchdown lead. Texas scores. Once Oklahoma gets
the ball, a questionable decision on third down to throw

(02:56):
the ball stops the clock. Texas gets the ball back,
ellen Burger go ellen Er goes down the field, scores
for Texas, and now we get into overtime. Texas gets
the ball back first and Ellinger again goes into the
end zone. So now we went from seventeen Oklahoma to
thirty thirty one Texas and the beginning of overtime. As

(03:20):
if Oklahoma doesn't score here, this game was over in
Texas is gonna win red River? What the hell happened here?
What am I missing? Look? Man, I will say this
about the quarterback, Sam ellen Ger. He he is a gamer,
He's as tough as they come. He's a high level competitor,
and I think they're going to be teams when we
talked about the NFL Draft, there can be some teams
that really like what he brings to the table. From

(03:41):
an intangible standpoint, I will say his ability to bring
them back in in this moment is really impressive. UM
twenty one unanswered points. They surge from behind there now
in a situation where they can win. I mean, they
are the best team, but they are finding a way
to get into the win circling. So they could be
three and one if they finished us off, and I

(04:03):
would say that as a surprise because they haven't looked
like an elite team to this point. No, and here's
the thing, both teams are in two different areas when
it comes to the discussion about the program. Because for Oklahoma, look,
Lincoln Riley has just churned out Heisman Trophy winner or
Heisman Trophy finalists the past several years at quarterback. Lincoln

(04:26):
Riley is good to go. And then he's got this
rookie who's got a world class arm, all sorts of
talent and Spencer Rattler. But you do see times where
he makes mistakes and we give him the grace period.
Because Lincoln Riley's recent success and also the fact, he's
a young quarterback. This is a weird offseason, and these
mistakes are going to happen, especially at this level college football,

(04:48):
because he's trying to figure it out. For Texas, they're
not cutting them that slack it is. Hey, Tom Herman,
you came here. There was all this hype, there was
all this discussion about he's the guy. Hi, this is
the up and comer. They finally got their coach. You
got Sam Ellinger, who, as you mentioned, it competitive as
all hell. Everybody loves the guy to love watching him play.

(05:08):
He's He's a rugged version of Tim Tebow, is what
I've been told. And they were on the verge of
losing two straight after being upset last week by TCU.
They were fortunate we were on the air in that
game against Texas tech Man. They were down fourteen there
and it took an onside kick recovery and a bunch
of plays down the field late for them to win

(05:28):
that game. In reality, if Texas were to have lost
this game and it's still going on and Oklahoma's got
the ball with the first down and overtime down seven,
we could be realistically looking at a one in three
Texas team after red River, and I don't know what
sort of discussion that turns into. When it comes to
Tom Herman, Well, I mean, look, he's just staving it

(05:49):
off because the discussion is Steel being head Um. This
isn't no, this is not gonna saving It's just gonna
temporarily do it because you know they'll dropped one to
a team later in the year. It that he shouldn't
and we'll be right back at the same conversation. Tom
Herman was expected to pick up where Charlie Strong left off.
The entire reason you dumped Charlie Strong is to get

(06:11):
Texas to the next level. Can we say that Texas
is at the next level? No? And so at some
point when you're paying him six six and a half
million dollars, I mean you don't want to pay six
and a half million dollars for seven and four and
so I do believe they're going up. The problem with
Texas who is the coach out there that is the

(06:32):
clear upgrade? Wow? I mean, come on, we know who
that is. I mean, who is there? Do you think
Urban Min is going? He's not going to Texas. He's
gonna replace his former assistant, even though they may not
be on good terms. You know, I'm just saying, you know,
Irvan is out there. Texas has got all sorts of money.
I mean, if you wanted to make the move, make

(06:53):
the move. It's just And I don't know if this
is just. And by the way, Oklahoma does have the
ball in overtime. Don't need to score here. It's second
and six. They have the ball inside the ten yard line.
So Spencer Rattler and company looking to tie this game,
hopefully and get another crack going into the second overtime. Um,
I don't know if if this is just a matter

(07:16):
of that of high expectations or unreasonable expectations, but it's
almost as if Texas is in the same spot every
year is the Dallas Cowboys. And I don't know if
I don't know if it's a Texas thing, but neither
one of these teams has won in a really long time,
I mean one at all. And everybody wants these teams
back of everybody, everybody wants let's let's be honest, Bucky.

(07:41):
When Texas is good and Dallas is good, it's great
for what we do. Oh absolutely, I mean even when
they're not good. Anytime you talk about that it's true
and it's fair and anytime you talk about them, yeah,
so now it's it's the thing. Um you want them
to be back because when you think about the big
twill like they had the blue bread Wow, great kids

(08:02):
to Oklahoma. Touchdown by Oklahoma was, by the way, possibly
an ill advised throw by Spencer. Third is third in
the game. You got to figure it out. Third in
the game. What are we going? I know, I know
he did it. He made it play. I mean, it wasn't.
It wasn't. It wasn't. It reminded me of Uh, Jonas.

(08:23):
We're playing get the Turkey ball. So it's just us,
just us and the Fellas. Yeah, Gascon is going down
there by the tree. Just throw it up to him
seven come down with and uh and Lee Misstimes just
jumped in front of em else and when taken it
back to the house for a for a pick six
Oklahoma to tie the game. And they do so, um Man,

(08:45):
even an extra point in college football, I'm on the
edge of my seat because half the time that ball
comes out and I don't know if it's the stripes
on both sides of the football, but it never looks
normal when it comes out. There's just something about it
the way a college kicker is and the college ball
Isn't the college ball fatter than the NFL ball or
am I am I mixing that up? I always thought
the college ball was fatter. It is a little fatter.

(09:06):
The NFL ball is a little easier to throw. Um,
it's an adjustment. It's also weird because the nfvailaball doesn't
have strikes when you played your entire life, which stripes
on the ball high school and college. So it's different.
It's different. Absolutely. Uh, Bucky Brooks Jonas knocks here on
Fox Sports Radio. So Oklahoma is going to get the
ball back. And this is where I want to ask
you about the strategy of this. Belichick started doing this,

(09:29):
and I think he was the first guy to do this,
but Belichick started. And now it's a rarity that a
team in the NFL, when they win the coin toss
almost always now they elect to defer. I almost always
they'd rather And you've talked about I actually texted you
about this because I wanted to discuss the middle eight,
and you talked about the middle eight where it's four

(09:50):
minutes before the first half and the four minutes afterwards. Correct, right?
For you? The last war, the first at first war,
the second alf and so Belichick came up with this,
I idea that I want to I want to differ,
and I want to get the ball to start the
second half because hopefully you have a lead going into
halftime and you can double up or a tack onto
that lead. Rather when you get the ball first in

(10:11):
the second half. Oklahoma won the toss and elected to defer,
absolutely the right decision. Correct, yeah, Because what you want
to do in overtime because of the Southern depth nature,
you want to know what you need to win. So
let Texas go out there. If they put a field
goal on, Okay, we need to we need a touchdown
to win, we can go do it. They score a touchdown,
we know we gotta score touchdown. Do you want to

(10:32):
go for a two point conversion? It just gives you
an opportunity to know exactly what you need, so when
you're calling plays, you call it with those things in mind.
So it is the start of the second overtime. Texas
Oklahoma tied at thirty eight on Fox Red River UH
from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. So Spencer Rattler and
Company for the Oklahoma Sumer. Oklahoma Sumers are going to

(10:54):
come out here to try and put this one in
and then put all the pressure back on Texas and
Sam Ellinger, Bucky Brooks, Jonas nocks here on Fox Sports
Radio from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios, Great Show Plan.
Jenny Taft is actually at this game. She's gonna be
catching up with us at some point. Not during the game,
although that'd be awesome if we could ever call in
from the sidelines while this game is still going on.

(11:14):
That'd be a lot of fun. But Jenny Taft will
be joining us here, Oklahoma with a big pick up
there of about twenty two yards all the way down
to about the three. Uh So, Oklahoma looks to be
close to punching it in here, so a big play
on first down. So Jenny Taft is gonna be here.
Uh usual suspects, Adam Kaplan, Bruce Gradkowski. We're gonna take
you all the way up until eight pm Eastern time,

(11:36):
and listen, I know what you're all asking. Are we
going to have an Iowa minute? Yes, Unfortunately, we're going
to have an Iowa minute. Iowa Sam is here. I
want to. I want to donate thirty seconds of my
time to so you can have him in and a half.
He had nine. Okay, very good. So Bucky's gonna good.
Donate thirty seconds of this time. And you know, to
be honest with you, if we do the Iowa minute,
I'll donate four hours. I will just take the entire

(11:56):
show off if that's the case. Uh A missed opportun
unity for a touchdown catch there for Oklahoma. UM and
so yes, the whole cast is gonna be here. We're
gonna take you all the way up until eight pm
Eastern time. Here on Fox Sports Radio, Jonas Knocks, Bucky
Brooks here on FS are coming up next the conclusion
of this game and what implications this could have moving

(12:18):
forward in college football. That's next here on FS. Are
that guy right over there's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knocks.
This is Fox Sports Radio. You can always hang out
with us on the I Heart Radio app. Bucky Brooks.
We have a fourth and goal situation for Oklahoma in
overtime against Texas. Here Oklahoma going for it on fourth

(12:41):
and goal and they have blown the play dead a
time out by the Texas defense and Oklahoma is going
to throw through a pass. Alright, what okay? That is?
And I'm so glad you brought that up because that
is something that that blows my mind. Um, so we
can reset this for everybody tuning in. We've already, by

(13:03):
the way, already had one upset today Florida falling to
Texas A and M. Earlier. That game was a phenomenal game.
So so we will touch on that later on. Uh,
Texas A and M with a field goal late. By
the way, the SEC is slowly looking more and more
like the Big twelve, and it pissses me off. Can

(13:23):
we get back to l s U Alabama nine to three?
Can we get back to that? Please? Come on, Bucky,
come on. You don't like that. No, I don't know.
I don't like this firework. It's early because defenses are behind.
They haven't been able to springboard. I can't tackle, you
can't hit you. How many audited other stuff? How long
is this going to go on for by the middle
of the year? Okay, alright, so we've got another week

(13:45):
you see people settle in, all right? Fair enough? I
actually wonder do you think the Big ten is going
to be more prepared for this? Season than some of
these other teams. They've had a lot of time have
They've had time to practice, and they kept going like
they kept pride to seeing they kept doing things. But
I don't know, you know, the thing would be if
one of those teams makes it, Oh god, yeah, there

(14:07):
you go there, every one of those teams make it
to the playoff, how are they going to be compared
to these other teams that will be a little more hardened.
And I mean, let's just throw this out there for giggles.
I mean, I don't know if it had happened, but
let's just say a Pack two of team makes it
after playing seven games. Um, are you gonna have enough
edge to them to be able to compete against some

(14:28):
of these other teams. I'll tell you what, Like, whoever
gets that packed twelve team in the college football playoff,
congratulations on your second bye weekend, because that teams that
packed twelve teams got zero shot in a college football well,
I mean, I I just wanted in a hardened sense.
So I mean it would be unfair for them to
have to take on like an SEC team, right, a

(14:49):
team that has been kind of grinding and getting after
or whatever. I mean, listen, listen, you you you make
the decisions that you make, and you you know, have
a bad TV contract and everything else that goes along
with it. This is just part of them. Them's the rules, man,
we don't make him Bucky. By the way, Spencer Rattler
on a quarterback sneak, which in my opinion, should be

(15:13):
the absolute only play you run on fourth and less
than a yard, Well how about that? That that saved him?
Because I didn't like that play that they did. They
were telling the ball. I mean, that was a nice
mulligan for um uh coach, I think we really need

(15:35):
to do this. Oklahoma's got a forty thirty eight lead.
Second overtime, Texas getting the ball because Oklahoma deferred to
start overtime, like we talked about, Texas now has to
score and kick an extra point in order to force
a third overtime, and then when do the rules kick
in for okay, so so that's over the next one

(15:56):
nothing they have to go for two. Okay. So so
after after this over time into the third overtime, they
go for dow Yeah okay, so so yeah, so he
gets it gets interesting here, Um after you go through this,
but you know, fatigue begins to sit in because they
have been playing a lot of snaps and so second
in ten for Texas, ball is on just inside and

(16:18):
my man's him Ellinger up. Yeah he um, and look
he's played really well. And it should be noted ben
Spencer Rattler played well considering they benched him. They benched
him and then went back to him. Lincoln Riley benched
him for a little while, let him think about some things,
and and he came back and played well. Now, Ellinger
up a big first down, now inside it to Ellinger, Ellinger,

(16:39):
Gerger Her Ellinger into the end zone for a touchdown.
Ellinger looking like a tebow kind of wow. And so
so a long touchdown run and you just touched on it.
The fatigue clearly setting in for Oklahoma's defense there, and
so now text Oklahoma doesn't play a whole lot of defense. Well,
you know, I mean, look, ever since I Bosworth and

(17:00):
Tommy Harris left. When Tommy Harris left, they just haven't
been the same, you know, I don't know, yeah, you know.
There was something about Tommy Harrison, who was the other guy. Um,
oh god, he played no, no, no, got just a
fringe name. He played in the NFL Dusty divorce. Check him,

(17:23):
check he is, and he's good. He's very good. Um. Alright,
So we now have an extra point attempt by Texas
to try and tie this game up at forty in
the second overtime. It looks hot as balls out there,
by the way, I'm just gonna be honest with you. Yeah,
it looks hot. Um, Lincoln Riley looks frustrated. They're they're

(17:45):
going to review the touchdown run. I don't know if
maybe he stepped out of bounds on the sidelines. Possibly,
if that's what they're looking at. Um, a clearhold miss there,
But Sam Ellinger in no, he's not even close. Yeah no,
So it appears to be a good touchdown, and so
Texas looking to tie it on the extra point. Here.

(18:07):
I'm telling you, man, this is going to because and
you probably know this, these rivalry games. Who was your
biggest obviously, Duke, North Carolina is a big rival. Who
was the biggest rival for you at when you were
playing football in North Carolina Florida State. I mean, when
we finally got to a point where we were decent
enough we could call them rab but they didn't look
at us as a rival, but we we circled him

(18:28):
on the calendar. Uh, Florida State is always a big game,
but uh Anty State, Uh Duke, We're always the big rivals. Um.
We had interesting games with Virginia when I was there.
Georgia Tech is always kind of fun. So the weeks
leading up into those games, it's just different, right, Well,
it's just different when you played the Duke game. And
part of the Duke game rivalry stands from your guy,

(18:50):
the old ball coach and what he did my freshman
year did I must not so my my first my first,
my firstman, my exterman year. UM Duke actually won the conference.
It was for years last season at Duke, and they
were good man. They put us on. They put it
on as jonas. They beat us forty one nothing. And

(19:13):
in the course of that game, they had a tight
end who had never kicked a p a T kick
a T and uh they ran reverses and all kinds
of trick plays and they did all their stuff. But
after the game, where you're walking out, I mean they
hammered us. They ran past the team for the handshake.

(19:35):
And in North Carolina you have to score boards. You
have a little scoreboard that hangs in the corner. Then
you have the big one that is that is up
in the like the press box. They ran past us
and they took a team picture under the score board
to commemorate the AC championship. Jonas, I cannot tell you

(19:59):
because like the people that came after him, the coaches
that came after him had to pay for those sins.
I want to say, Caroline Carolina might have beaten Duke
twelve or thirteen years in a row after that, Like
to this day, to this day, like the hair on
the back of my neck stands up when I think
about the Duke game and having to play them, because

(20:21):
he did it, and he knew he was out the door.
He knew so when. So that's why I always like,
you shouldn't want to bring back Lou Host because the
old ball coach, the old ball coach one on now.
Oh man, well so so, just so I have this straight.
So Steve Spurrier as head coach of Duke, not only
did he run up the score on your North Carolina

(20:43):
tar Heels, he sent a tight end out to kick
an extra point. Oh yeah, he did love him. I
love him. I think he's fantastic he did. He did
so that that was the last game, and then the
next next year he took over at Florida. Well you
know what he used to do. I remember this story.
So this is a great STI experior story. When they

(21:03):
it was tradition one of the most underrated rivalry games
in college football is Georgia South Carolina because the campuses
aren't that far from each other Georgia, you know, from Georgia,
from Athens. It's not that far from the border, from
the state line between South Carolina and Georgia, and it's
really one of the underrated rivalries, especially in the South

(21:28):
when it comes to college football. And so they started
experimenting with some stuff and for I don't know why
they did this, but the college football schedule makers started
moving some stuff around. And traditionally Georgia's South Carolina was
always like the third or fourth week of the season,
and then they decided one year to move it like
a month back or so, so it ended up being
the seventh or eighth game of the season. And they

(21:49):
asked Spurrier about it, and they said, so what is
you know, what do you think of the of the
new schedule? The fact they moved to Georgia game back,
and he goes, well, you know, I I like playing
those guys earlier in the season because that are in
the season, you could always count on two or three
of their best players being suspended and and and the
media was like, wait, what did he just say. He's like,
he's like, he just he basically just said, yeah, that

(22:11):
early in the season usually they're dealing with dealing with suspension,
so a couple of their best players are going to
be out. And people lost it absolutely. But he's just
under the radar. S talker stirred us the radars sort
of like the rivalry um. The stuff that he brings
up when he was at Florida with Paid Manning and Tennessee,

(22:34):
Oh man, he's so good. He knows, he knows how
the poke he doesn't he doesn't mind. Now, I will
say this about Spurry when when he doesn't have a
loaded deck, he will cash in. He will throw the
cars in and he'll he'll shake down. He left South
Carolina tonight. You know I'm not taking all these as
on my resumes. Here's here's the best part a bet Spurrier.

(22:58):
Spurrier called an impromptu press conference. Remember when Magic Johnson
bailed on the Lakers. Spurrier called one of those, but
it was for the opposite. He called a bunch of
media around. He was piste off that coaches in the
SEC we're telling recruits I wouldn't go to South Carolina
because he's he's ready to get up out of there.
He's ready to leave, he's ready to retire. Spurrier ripped

(23:19):
into him and said, there's lies going on about me,
there's lies going on about us, blah blah blah. I
mean he ripped them. Six weeks later he was gone, gone,
just just decided I'm out and and and he had
to go. So um So, yeah, Spurrier is a classic.
Right now. By the way, we have a situation developing
in Red River between Texas and Oklahoma. Uh and listen,

(23:42):
I don't want to steal the thunder from David Gascon.
So we will have more on this game because it
is a classic brewing there at the Cotton Bowl between
Texas and Oklahoma. So so we will get to that
coming up here next on Fox Sports Radio. But for
all the latest from around the world of sports, starting
with what is taking place in this game. Dave how

(24:02):
about this, Dave, I saved the thunder for you. You
all the glory. That's very rare, especially at this network. Dave,
what's going on? What's going on with Texas and Oklahoma?
I'll give you a heads up. Leada Lap took the under. Sorry, Lee,
you bet the under in a big twelve game. You
deserve a kick in the nuts. That's your problem. Sorry, guys.

(24:26):
It looks like a field goal try by Texas was blocked.
The Fox is replaying it right now. It was, in
fact the Sooner blocked at the lion of scrimmage. So
right now, as it stands, Oklahoma just needs a field
going to win it, and they are tied right now,
and the triple overtime is the score keeping mind. It

(24:47):
was thirty one to seventeen Oklahoma with the advantage late
in the fourth quarter, and Texas score twice with less
than six minutes to play to tie that game up.
A couple of upsets earlier today, what have them included?
Missouri basically brings Batty in motion back to the left side,
fix the hand up him. He got a man open.
Nico Hey makes the subside touchdown Missouri AND's got the league.

(25:08):
You know, they beat l s U there one and
two on the season. Missouri wins it to forty one.
Of course, number four Florida. They were in cruise control
most of the day. This will be a twenty six
yard attempt for Seth Small two seconds left, tied to
thirty eight. Seth Small can't deliver the game winner. The
snap is good, the kick is up, and the fighting

(25:30):
Texas haggis a top five win. They take down the
four front Florida Gators. Yeah, they win it in dramatic fashion,
forty one to thirty eight. Isaiah Spiller twenty seven carries
for a hundred and seventy four yards in two scores.
Just by the way, I wanted to ask you, did
you see or did you glance at some of the
lines today on the top college football? Not really a gambler, Well,

(25:53):
I know, but you know there's friends that you might
want to pass long information to. Yeah, I mean, you know,
I try and keep the gambling side that out of this.
I mean, I didn't know that Oklahoma was a three
point favorite. I did know that in certain places b
YU was a thirty five point favorite against the University
of Texas San Antonio. They're by four right now, three

(26:14):
al right over under in this game with sixty six.
Let me ask you, guys, this is it considered a
sin if you bet on B y U. I don't
know that's a favorite. I mean, I hope, well, I
hope so I've done it. What do you mean I've
done it. I'm just I'm just wondering whether or not
that's gonna come back to hobby later on. You bet

(26:35):
on B y U at Hawaii, would you feel dirty
about doing that? Oh? God, no, no, they're no. God
you could you at least a little yeah, you could
not find two different two more different ways of life
in Hawaii and B y U, trust me. And there's
a completely different ball game there, speaking of which is
a lot of raid right now. Auburn and Arkansas. There's

(26:58):
no score in the first quarter. Pit's Boston College seven
and three and on Fox Big Fox TCU seven and
three over Kansas State, UH number eight North Carolina they
won today. They gave up a bulleload of points the
forty five and fact they get forty five points to
number nineteen Virginia Tech. They gave up thirty one points
in the second half. I mean, that's like a Dallas

(27:20):
Cowboys defense. Anyways, Joe's back to your Carolina Jonas Stocks
Buckey Brooks here from the Geico Fox Sports radio studios,
where it's easy to say more on car insurance with Geico.
Go to Geico dot com or call seven Auto. The
only hard part figuring out which way is easier. All right,
So Oklahoma is sending out the kicking unit to try

(27:44):
and put this one on ice. It is a second
and ten, a little surprise or not trying to second? Man?
Must I must be money, you would think, so must
be money? He is. Uh, So here we go the
field goal try for Klahoma. Um. If you're wondering why
I don't know. If you're wondering why we're not saying

(28:07):
who's attempting the kick, it's because I don't know how
to pronounce his name of you. All I know is
that if you mix the letters up and says brick,
which is probably not a good thing, but it is
a good thing if you're a Danny Green fan. Um, alright,
so sorry that I probably if you probably they probably
feel right into your thing. Like I wonder with your
show last night, I mean just to go back, like okay,

(28:29):
so like so did you have one that was ready
for the parade and then another one like like, how
do you get ready for that? Because like I mean,
I know you like to poke the bear. So I
am assuming that you probably made fun of all the
Lakers fans who may have had the champagne on ice
ready to go. I mean, mom MoMA Friday, they had
the momm Listen. I I don't I don't know what.

(28:51):
I don't know what you're referring to. I mean, if
I mean, if you want to, maybe maybe we could
play the open to my show from last night and
you tell me if you can take a guess you
think I did. I mean, listen, I I'm fair and
balanced here thirty one yard attend to win the game,
and oh my god, and he just missed it. Wow.

(29:12):
So the guy who's what happens? You gotta play. You
gotta play to win, like what I'm doing here. Okay,
and all right, and so now and so now we've
got three different decisions that are going to be discussed here. Um.
The first one is Tom Herman. Well, the first one
would be Lincoln Riley throwing it on third down? What

(29:33):
he could have milked more time off the clock um
and not given Texas an opportunity to go down the
field and tie the game in regulation. The second is
going to be why Tom Herman didn't go for two
when they had the when they tied, we're going with
an opportunity to tie the game at the end of regulation,
Why didn't Tom Herman go for two to try and

(29:55):
win the game they'res opposed to going into overtime. And
then the third is going to be why Lincoln Riley
sent the kicking unit out on the second and second
second and ten man give a chip shot? I mean, look,
if this is if this is second and ten and
you're a bad offense, If this is second in ten
and it's you know, South Carolina or somebody like that,

(30:16):
and you've got an offense you can't depend on, then
I get it. But this is Oklahoma. Lincoln Riley, I
would assume has got something in his bag or in
his back pocket for second and ten a safe play
at least unless he just doesn't trust Spencer Rattler in
those situations to be able to hold onto the football.
That seems like a regrettable decision by Lincoln Riley. Right, Yeah,

(30:37):
I don't. I don't yeah, I don't get that. So
now Texas can win the game. Now you have to
do you have to go for two. So text okay,
So now Texas is going to get the ball back
with an opportunity to take an eight point lead in
this game, and Oklahoma will still getting another shot at it.

(30:59):
This is, man, what a crazy situation. And at some
point these guys, when when does cramping start to come
into the equation here alright, because, honest to god, if
I was playing football, we're starting the fourth overtime on
Fox between number twenty two Texas. Um, you would call
them ranked, I only do the top twenty. I don't
consider them ranked. And Oklahoma here and uh. And so

(31:19):
now Spencer Rattler with the ball as Oklahoma will get
the ball first here uh and an incomplete pass to
the right side. And so now we're up to the
fourth overtime, tied at forty five, and a bunch of
narratives are still in play here, buck, a lot of
things in play. I'm looking at Spencer Rattlers stadn two touchdowns,

(31:40):
one interception, thirty four attempts for dred and eighty four
yards and not a lot of return on the investment.
And uh here's the and and we had a touchdown
by Oklahoma. Oh man, that's a heck of a play stoops?
Oh come on, how many stoops are in Oklahoma in
the bob stops? You know, like, honestly, how many? You know?

(32:03):
It's like, I look, I'm not trying to claim that
the Knox family is like a big deal in Illinois. Okay,
well not Yeah, Knox SNR. That is true, c Senor absolutely,
But but here's here's the one thing I'll say. I'm
not trying to claim that the Knox family is a
big deal. But where my family is from in Illinois,
they lived in Knox County, So maybe maybe we kind

(32:25):
of run things. I'm just saying, you're just kind of
take over Knox NRD. I'm just saying, you know, Galsburg, Monmouth,
that area in Illinois. I'm just saying it's kind of
a big deal. So so now Oklahoma's got to go
for two. You're a coach. How many two point plays
do you have? Is there is there a specifically a
section on your play card where you've got two point

(32:47):
plays for this situation? Or do you just run the
offense as normal? No? No, no no, you should have two
to three two point plays somewhere on your sheet. I
would think in college you might yeah, two to three.
You want to have some variations of some of those
to be able to um mix it up if you
do get in one of these overtime situations. But you

(33:08):
need to have enough inventory to be able to get
you out of this. I don't know how many. This
would be the first one I think right now. What
you do is you're Lincoln Riley. You have a feel
for the game. You have a feel for how Texas
plays inside the five, and so you're always thinking pig plays,
rough plays, some kind of misdirection action crossing the field
because you want to give yourself every opportunity to knock

(33:30):
Some of these defenders are particularly it's a team that
plays a lot of man to man. He's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can
listen to the show on the I Heart Radio app.
We will have the potentially the conclusion to this game.
A classic at the Cotton Bowl between Oklahoma and Texas
that's coming up next to your onfs are and that
is a wrap. A classic at the Cotton Bowl has

(33:55):
just gone final between Oklahoma and Tech, says Jonas knocks
Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio. Bucky Oklahoma with
a fifty three lead in the fourth overtime, number twenty two,
Texas with an opportunity to score and tie the game.
And it was a throw in the end zone by

(34:17):
Sam Ellinger and it was intercepted by Oklahoma and the
Sooners survive, Texas falling to two and two. Oklahoma up
to two and two on the season. A classic just
gone final at the Cotton Bowl between these two teams
on Fox at Red River. Unbelievable, Yeah, classic. Uh, great

(34:38):
play by the corner. Sam ellen was trying to hit
a deep crossing route. Ball sailed on him a little bit. Um,
you know, look great, great game. Texas brings himself all
the way back. You can see he is trying to
hit this crosser. Just loop, hey, just just flows it
a little bit. It was a tough angle throw. Uh.
Great job by the corner making a terrific play coming

(34:58):
off his man to at the overthrow. And that's how
they do it. They win it. Here's here's the problem.
This makes this is even worse for Texas. And I'll
tell you why. Because people in Texas they want answers,
and had Texas just gone out and lost this game,

(35:18):
trailing by the two touchdowns late and the game wrapped
up an hour ago with Oklahoma winning by double digits,
then they would at least know, all right, we're just
not quite good enough and there needs to be some
serious discussion about making a change. This is a giant
tease because now they force overtime, overtime again, overtime again,

(35:41):
they get to the fourth overtime after an incredible comeback,
and you still lose this game. And I'm telling you,
this is where it's going to go back to an
opportunity to go for two at the end of regulation
to try and win the game there, and I and
I'm telling I just wonder if people in Texas would
have rather they lost the game trying to go for

(36:02):
two and then to see what just happened and what
played out in overtime, even though I disagree they're not
the most reasonable bunch, And it just feels like that's
where the discussion is going to go. Yes, yeah, I
mean this is definitely going to go there. And Texas
fans are certainly upset. They should be upset. There's a
lot of money on the line and a lot of
money they're paying him, and it hasn't been what Texas

(36:26):
fans wanted to be. They want to be a relevant program,
they want to be a top ten program, They want
to be able to knock off their rival consistently, and
they haven't been able to do so. And this was
the time where they're playing in unranked Oklahoma team, even
though the rankings are a little a little jaded this year,
and unranked Oklahoma team Texas comes in twenty two. Uh,

(36:48):
that's hard for him to It's hard fans swallow well,
and it's a rivalry game. And and look, we talked
about North Carolina Duke. Whenever North Carolina Duke playing basketball
and one of those teams having a down year, that's
a good game every year. It doesn't matter every year.
And so this this is a similar situation where you've
got Oklahoma and Texas, regardless of what you think of
either team, and and need look, need, both teams are

(37:09):
are incredibly flawed. I don't think you can just watch
the first four games of the season for each team
and understand that. I don't have an issue with Tom
Herman kicking the extra point at the end of regulation,
because if you actually go back to where they were
in the moment, Oklahoma was reeling. Yeah, they were rolling.
Texas was rolling. Don't give them life going to overtime.

(37:30):
They haven't stopped your offense in the last five ten
minutes of the fourth quarter. So that's what you do.
You continue to play it out. Um, it didn't work
out in their favor. They had to block field goal.
Then Oklahoma missis a field go Then they just gave
up a play. Yeah, it's and and so this is
people are gonna go back and play hindsight. But I

(37:50):
was okay with it. I think Oklahoma's defense was completely
were on the ropes. They were giving up big plays. Um,
you know, Ellinger was making making a ton of plays
on his own, was scrambling, making throws, and so to me,
that was the right decision. This just didn't go their way.
But unfortunately it's an unreasonable fan base who's always thought

(38:10):
they were better than they actually were. You talked to
and look, you you scout in the NFL, you do
it for NFL dot com. You're a former scout in
the NFL. How good are the players that have come
out of Texas since Tom Herman has been there. You know,
they've been okay, like they've they've they've they've been okay,
but they haven't produced to the level that you thought

(38:32):
Texas should be able to produce. When you think about
where NFL players come from, Uh, the three main well
I would say four now, Uh Florida, California, Texas, and Georgia.
Those are like the top four. Like those are the
areas where you get it. Uh. Texas because of the
love and the passion of football, especially down in high school,

(38:54):
you would think that you would see more pros for
whatever reason. They get a lot of four or five
star recruits. But those guys aren't turning into first and
second rounders. And that's why I wonder is is does
he have an inability to develop players? Do they get
better when they're at Texas? Because it's clear that a
quarterback goes to Oklahoma, they get better. Look at Jalen

(39:15):
Hurts and you look at all some of these other programs.
It's clear that these guys get better when they stay
at some of these other programs. Do they get better
when they're at Texas? Does Tom Herman make these players better?
And if if you can't answer yes to that, then
that's where these discussions come of. Okay, what do we
do now when it comes to Tom Herman and as
head coach of Texas the two most important factors in

(39:36):
team building player acquisition and college as recruiting player development.
That is what you do with them once you get
them on campus. We can say that the Texas players
aren't playing at the level in which they were recruited
to be. Bucky Brooks, Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio more
out of a busy weekend in the world of football. Next,
so what do you know one conferences decision from I

(40:00):
want to say two months ago actually came back to
haunt one team in college football. We will have that
for you here coming up in just a couple of
moments from now. That guy read over. There's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can
listen to. The show is always on the I Heart
Radio app and on every single one of our Fox
Sports Radio affiliates hundreds across the country. Thanks for hanging

(40:24):
out with us here on a beautiful Saturday around the
world of sports. As we come to you live from
the Geico. Fox sports radio studios where fifteen minutes could
save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Visit
geico dot com for a free rate. Quote my guy,
Bucky Brooks, what the hell is going on? Man? I'm
feeling like a top ten guy. That's what I'm feeling like.

(40:44):
I'm feeling like a top ten guy. My team is
playing like a top ten squad. So I'm feeling like that.
I'm I'm ready, I'm excited, Jonas and Okay, So so
here's here's where things get interesting because we actually thought about, Okay,
what's gonna happen to North Carolina? You're North Carolina tar Heels,
because last week, if I ever recalled, they were twelve.
If I were called, they were twelve last week. And

(41:06):
so we thought, all right, so what is going to
happen to North Carolina? To North Carolina? There were some
losses in the top ten, and then North Carolina moved
all the way up to eight. Well, now Florida lost
to Texas A and m um, you've you've also you've
also got the potential of Miami and Clemson. Somebody's gonna

(41:28):
lose that game. So there's an opportunity ahead. North Carolina
that's gonna move up and if Tennessee, if Tennessee beats Georgia,
Bucky Brooks are your North Carolina tar heel is gonna
be a top five team. When we're doing the show
next week, are you knocking on the National Championship door? Right?

(41:53):
You know? You know what you'll never meet here a
little behind the scenes here at Fox Sports Radio. You'll
never meet a more humble and quiet and professional guy
than Bucky Brooks until North Carolina go. Once North Carolina
got good again in football, Bucky Brooks said, you know what,

(42:14):
I'm sick and tired of being a good guy and
you turned into Rick Flair. You turned it. You went
from Dusty Rhodes to Rick Flair overnight because of North Carolina.
But they that's a real like there. At the very least,
they're gonna go up in the rankings. George's third there
right now, holding onto a lead over Tennessee, but they
could very Tennessee has played really good football this year.

(42:35):
Georgia could very easily lose to Tennessee. That's an opportunity
to move Alabama exactly. Yeah, So there there's on now.
If Alabama loses, if Nick Saban loses to Lane Kiffin.
I mean that it'll be worse than the kick six.
That'll be worse than the kick six loss. Right for
Nick Saban and Alabama. I'm telling you right now that

(42:58):
that's gonna be That's gonna be an ugly one. But nonetheless,
it is a crazy day. We talked about it earlier. Uh,
the Red River rivalry, that's that's enough. Yeah, that's a lot.
I screwed that up every time. I can't say RS
and w's like rivalry week. I really struggled down which

(43:18):
is what you did, Russell Westbrook, Like I struggled with
that one for a long time, Like that was always
always an issue for me. But nonetheless, um, it is.
Uh the Oklahoma Sooners with a fifty three win over Texas.
Um that heard earlier on Fox. We're gonna be catching
up with Jenny Taft. She was on the sidelines for
that one. That was a crazy game. Four overtimes. Um,

(43:42):
you know, Texas trailing by four teen late, comes back ties,
it goes into overtime and then goes into three more
overtimes after the initial and it was an an interception
by Sam Elinger in the end zone to ice the
game and Oklahoma wins it. But there was also another
big up set, and we're not talking about l s
U losing to Missouri because listen, we all understand l

(44:04):
s you lost so many players. The idea that anybody
thought they were going to be a fraction of what
they were a year ago is crazy. So that was
an unbelievable season. So l s U losing all those
players to the draft, especially their quarterback Joe Burrow, which
we've got again to do later on because he looks
better and better than more um. There was another upset

(44:24):
and it was in the SEC where you had number
four Florida going on the road at number twenty one
Texas and m The game was tied at thirty eight,
and here's how it sounded. This was Andrew Monaco from
Learfield i MG College. This will be a twenty six

(44:45):
yard attempt for Seth Small, two seconds left, tied to
thirty eight, Seth Small can deliver the game winner. The
snap is good, the kick is up, and the fighting
Texas is a top five win. They take down four
front Florida Gators. Here's why this is notworthy. Remember when

(45:07):
the SEC always got buried because well you wouldn't play
as many conference opponents, and you guys always added on,
you know, uh, teams that were gonna be easy wins
or homecoming games late. And it was always a criticism
of FCS schools and whatnot. When the SEC decided to
come back, they went to an all SEC schedule, and
you and I talked about it on the air, Bucky.

(45:28):
We said, listen, that's brutal that that could change everything
for a lot of teams. Here's why it impacts what
happened between Florida and Texas A and M. The added
opponents for Florida when they went to this all SEC
schedule and Florida, by the way, was looking like a

(45:48):
national championship contender up until this game. The added opponents
after they went to the SEC only schedule for all
SEC schools. The two teams added on for Florida were
Arkansas and at Texas A and M. Because of that
add on, Florida just suffers their first loss of the season,

(46:10):
and based on the remaining schedule in the SEC and
being all SEC opponents, that additional add on of Texas
A and M and a road game for Florida could
be the difference between them competing for a national title
and not getting to the College Football Playoff. Yeah, it's crazy. Yeah,
just handing it on changes the dynamic, changes the game.

(46:31):
And we talked about this. There had been a push
for years to get these teams to play more in
conference games, to kind of have a a fair and
equitable scheduling system for every conference. Everybody plays non conference games,
so you can level the playing field what you've done
in the SEC. Because we talked about the the um

(46:52):
competitive equity or in the SEC in terms of the
amount of talent that they had, that it was gonna
be tough. It's gonna be tough for someone to run
the table. And we may see a two loss SEC
team make the playoffs just because it's a tough schedule. Yeah,
and so that's why. And I've always been a proponent.
And people can say whatever they want about Nick Saban

(47:13):
and they can go, oh, well, you know, he he
manipulates the schedule to try and get to the college
football Playoff. All right, maybe so, but it's probably the
smart thing to do. And when he schedules these lower
ranked teams, are these teams that aren't ranked or the
these FCS teams look those teams, and those schools make
so much money off that one game against Alabama. They

(47:34):
make a ton and oftentimes the money they make on
those games in which they're gonna get blown out by
an Alabama or a Florida or an l s U,
the money they'll make on those games is more money
than they'll make with all their other games combined all
season long. It's why those lower schools always take the

(47:56):
opportunity when they get a chance to oh, absolutely, yeah,
non all take it. It's it would be like a boxer,
uh fighting the best fighter in the world and and
he's nowhere close to being ranked. You can't pass up
that kind of payday. So of course they're gonna take
it that. We know it's gonna be wiped out, we
know it's gonna be a blowout, and so now when
you add on these two additional opponents in the SEC,

(48:18):
it's a game changer. I still think because this is
gonna be the first year I believe that we're gonna
have a two loss team get into the college football Playoff,
and I think that I think that two lost team
is going to be in the SEC. I'm telling you
right now, they're gonna and people are gonna hate it
because they're gonna say, why should we reward them for
something they should have done all the way all the time,
which is play more SEC opponents. That's fine, fair argument,

(48:41):
But I think they're going to be rewarded for it.
And I think part of it is because the reason
we're watching full slates of college football games every single
Saturday for the next couple of months in large part
is because the SEC was aggressive and said we can
pull this off, let's make this happen. And because of that,
I think they're gonna be rewarded on the back end.
Absolutely to be rewarded on the back end. I think

(49:02):
everyone respects that conference. They conference is viewed as the
premier conference based on the depth of talent and the
number of quality teams that exist in the conference. So, yeah,
when you put all these teams together, they have to
play against each other. You understand that they're going to
be some hiccups for the top teams, but they're going
to be battle tested and maybe even better prepared to

(49:23):
make a run into playoff. Yeah, it's gonna be that's
gonna be a wild one to to watch how that
plays out. Now, for your North Carolina tar Heel's Bucky
Brooks um again number eight in the country and only climbing.
They will continue to climb. I actually look, because Miami
and Clemson, that's gonna be a loss for one of
those two teams, obviously, so I would so one of

(49:45):
those teams is gonna fall back. If it's Miami that loses,
North Carolina definitely jumps them. North Carolina moves ahead of Florida.
I would. I would think at the very least, North
Carolina is gonna be sixth in the country next week,
at the very last, at a minimum, and independent upon
Notre Dame in Florida state, how that plays out, what
Notre Dame looks like. I think I could have an

(50:06):
argument now, when was the last time North Carolina was
six in the six in the country. Were you guys
ever ranked when you were at North Carolina? Come on,
it is disrespect No, No No, I'm asking an honest question.
I'm asking an honest question. I'm asking an honest question
for us. The highest we ever reached maybe twelve or thirteen. However,
when coach Brown was there, they got number four his

(50:27):
last year, I think they finished they finished. Number four
is one of those things that no one ever talks about.
They lost to Florida State, that might have been their
only loss, And he took the Texas Gig and asked
the class that had Dre Blah and Brian Simmons and
a bunch of pros, and so this would be the
closest that North Carolina has gotten since that high water
mark that they had when he was there. Now, I

(50:49):
think there's a really good possibility that North Carolina is
undefeated by the time we get to Thanksgiving weekend. All right,
here's why I say that. At Florida State next week,
that's a tough game, Okay, but you can win that game,
all right, North Carolina stayed afterwards. Okay, Halloween, you're at Virginia. Man,

(51:14):
it's a House of Horrors update. But that's okay, okay, um,
I was about to take that joke somewhere. I want
to do it. You got Duke after that, then you've
got Wake Forest. North Carolina is going to be undefeated
because Thanksgiving weekend, then you get Notre Dame and then

(51:37):
the following week you're at Miami. That's where things are
going to get difficult from North Carolina. I think North Carolina,
who right now sits at three and oh eight nine. Yeah,
you're gonna be nine and oh by the time you
meet Notre Dame. We could pressure building Notre Dame. I mean,
and I'm and I'm torn because if you're if you're

(51:58):
nine and oh against Notre Dame. I mean, like I've
got my radio wife on Sunday nights against my my
radio wife on Saturday's you and Brady Quinn. I mean,
I'm so I'm in the middle. Now, I can be bought.
I'll let you know that right now, I can be bought.
So if we get to the point to where North
Carolina Notre Dame or playing, uh, and there's a potential
playoff spot on the line, and and maybe you know

(52:19):
undefeated streaks are on the line, I'm letting you know
right now, rooting interests can be bought for me. So
so it depends on Yeah, so it depends on what
what you're willing to offer up. All right, Bucky Brooks
Jonas Docks here a Fox Sports Radio from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios. You can check out this show
on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up next, we're
going to ask our NFL analyst He's a guy who

We're gonna find out whether or not one quarterbacks value
became even greater than we thought it was over the
past several days. Find out who we're talking about next year.
On FSR, E's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knocks. This is is
Fox Sports Radio. You can hang out with us as

(53:05):
always on the I Heart Radio app coming up later
on this hour. I have no idea when, because I
can't get a straight answer out of him. I just
keep getting screamed at my ear. Ellinger It's Jake Ellinger
for Sam Ellinger, My god man, who it's unbelievable. Llinger Jesus.

(53:27):
It's like a drunk at a spelling bee. But nonetheless,
we will get to that here the Iowa Minute coming
up later on here this hour. Here on Fox Sports Radio,
Wild Day around college Football. A couple of upsets, Florida
losing to Texas A and m L s U falls
to Missouri. A classic at the Cotton Bowl between Oklahoma

(53:48):
and Texas four overtimes, but it was Oklahoma over Texas
and when just when you thought things could not get
any better. On this show, ladies and gentlemen make some
noise because it is the man himself here. Bruce Gradkowski,
former NFL quarterback now an analyst for Pro Football Focus,

(54:08):
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Bruce, what's happening, man? Guys?
It's always a pleasure a little Bruce Springsteen welcomed me
back in. I like it. Yeah, Look it's Bruce Springsteen
coming in. It's the Toledo Fight song going out. I mean,
you know, there's nothing where we try in. It's a
full service show and we just want to make you
feel as comfortable as possible. Bruce. You know, you guys

(54:30):
are the best. I'm just I'm waiting for the time
of two that you door to ask me some dinner here.
Then you're truly trying to get to my heart. All right,
well we will work on that, um, Bruce. I I
gotta ask you this because this was a big topic
of discussion, and I looked at it as like, look,

(54:50):
he made a mistake. I mean it happens, people make mistakes.
The Tom Brady fourth down, not knowing the fourth down,
whatever whatever it was that happened on Thursday night. What
was your thought on that? Being a former quarterback playing
in a bunch of you know, high profile situations, whether
it be trying to make a comeback not only at
the college level but the NFL level, and running that

(55:12):
hurry up offense late in games. What did you make
of what happened between Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers on Thursday? Well, my initials, my my initial thought
was it happened, Um you know that. Uh, I'm like,
you know, in no time. Sorry, my wife's trying to
get in the car and the door of things coming home.

(55:34):
I mean, I just I have to hide out with
my quarter to get some piece of quiet. I'm getting bugged.
It's like I'm in the car to see me but no.
So so the two minute droll, my initial thought was, look,
it happens, right, I mean, and then yes, it's unlikely
it happens to Tom Brady because he's Tom Brady. Do

(55:57):
you think about it too, He's running a new offense. Know,
in the two minute drill, you're more concerned about chunks
down field and not always sinking down a distance. You're
more concerned, Okay, we have this amount of time, we
need to get in google range, we need to score
a touchdown. You know, in two minute situations, that's what's
going through your mind. So you get caught up in that.

(56:17):
So Tom Brady, thinking he just checked the ball down
is running back, got tackled and bounds the next place.
I think he took a shot the gronk or the
tight end down the middle somewhere and then um or
you know, it was a deep cross the gronk that
he's through behind him, and so so Britty's thinking, man,
I gotta get a chunk. I gotta get a chunk.
So now, if he was aware it was fourth down,

(56:40):
he would have just I think it was Scotty Miller
was on a stop route to the right side. He
would have just taking him and they would have got
out of bounce, moved the chains and then continue to go.
But when I think about it too, I think about, look,
it's a new offense. Uh So at times too, you're
not just thinking ahead, you're also trying to process to
play that just called and communicated outside your hand simular

(57:03):
and you're screaming whatever you have to do. So I
think it is a part of the new offense as well,
because when you're used to an offense, now your mind's
going not to the play you're running, but now you're
going to Okay, I'm gonna change the play to this.
If I get this, Soak, I'm gonna hand signal Mike
Givans versus Sook. I know vers this. So this role
turns into this like so you're not even initially thinking

(57:24):
about the play or thinking what's next. And I don't
know if Tom Brady is fully there yet in this
new system. You know, Bruce and looking at this offense
because the offense has all the weapons, all the weaponry
dead he needs. You have big play receivers on the outside.
You got multiple tight ends even when you lose O J.
Howard running game. Rojoe looked great on Thursday. The one

(57:45):
thing that I believe he may be missing is a
slot receiver. Can you talk about why a slot receiver,
someone over the middle of field may be so important
to Tom Brady at this stage of his career. Yeah,
I mean that's slide receiver. I mean that's almost like
just security blanket on third down, someone that can work
the middle field. That's why you see a lot of
teams and even the Patriots in the past with Bronk

(58:07):
when he was at the height of his career, he
was a security blanket, the guy in the middle stool
with Julian Edelman work in the middle of steel. That
those are the throws Tom Brady life. And I think
about that watching this game from last week is um.
You know, sometimes Brady had throws outside and I'm talking

(58:27):
about pre snap decision making throws that Okay, I could
take that out wrong. Gives me I'm not even gonna
worry about reading the middle of the field. I'm taking
that out. For some reason, he continues to go back
in the middle of the field, to the crossing round,
to the return rounds, to the hitch routes inside to
the and at times in that game, I felt like

(58:50):
he missed a few reads, easy throws that he couldn't.
He could have eliminated a lot of decisions if you
would have just taken the pre snap read and the
easy out that the defense was given him. So um,
I mean, look, I think if stuff happens, you're going
to continue to grow and get better. I think Tampa,
you know what, it's tough with O. J. Howard and

(59:11):
some you know, Mike Evans didn't look right the other night.
He still looked like he was hobbling around, So they
have to figure it out, though. I mean, I think
they have to figure it out. And um, but it
is Tom Brady, so I think they'll be fine. Bruce Gradkowski,
former NFL quarterback down analysts for Pro Football Focus, joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio. UM, I feel bad
for Tyrod Taylor, Bruce in the sense that look justin

(59:36):
Herbert the decision to make him the starting quarterback. You
can't argue with it because he's played really well since
been given the opportunity. But the way that it all
went down for Tyrod Taylor and it just it feels
like he's one of those guys in the NFL or
in sports who just comes across bad luck. For whatever reason.

(59:57):
It just he finds himself in the in a situation
and and it just ends up poorly for him. What
did you make of the decision? And if you were
in Tyrod's shoes, how would you feel about it? Man?
I mean, he made a great point. I just think
how this only went down. I mean, yeah, in the past,
you know he's in Buffalo, you know then that they

(01:00:17):
you know, kick him out of there because they dressed Hi.
He's in Cleveland. You know he's about to um, you know,
he is the story. He gets hurt bigger, missing too soon.
Now he's in, you know, with the Chargers, and he's
going to replace Philip Rivers. And and notice the shot
that his own team doc gives him that that causes

(01:00:38):
him to miss a game. Uh, guys, we're talking about
millions of dollars on the table that he could possibly
be missing out because if he displays pretty well, Anthony
Lynz all about Tyrod Taylor, he was not going to
get pulled anytime soon. So he's made even more than
half a little more than half decent and the Chargers
are winning and being competitive, and it's tracks up or

(01:01:00):
he read renegotiates his deal. He I mean, look at
look at the numbers now quarterbacks are making. So to me,
now what we have seen from Justin Herbert, you you
almost you can't put Tyrod Taylor back in there because
with Herbert the arm, strength, athleticism, you have to go
every piece of grass on the field because of that,
because his arm can make every single throw in more

(01:01:24):
and um, and he's been playing pretty well. The thing
with Herbert, he just has to eliminate some of the
boonehood decisions, you know, throwing back across smooth fields, scrambling
or fool later trying to he's overthrowing en route and
it gets intercepted by the safety. Just checked the ball down.
You know. It's just things like that. But he is
a rookie. They drafted him high, this is his time?

(01:01:46):
Why not? And um it just it does? It really
stays for Tyrod Taylor. I think he's a really good quarterback.
I've always been a fan of him. To do is
backing up flak on Baltimore, So, um, it just thinks.
You know. Another thing that makes thinks is you're Dwayne
Haskins and you throw for your three hundred yards, have
maybe your best day when you complete over saving percent
of your passes. But you walk into the office and

(01:02:08):
the guy pulls your side today. Oh by the way,
you're now the quarterback three on the roster. When you
look at the Washington football team and their decision to
go to Call Island, what are your thoughts? Well, I
get Ron Rivera a ton of credit. You know, I'm
I'm a huge fan of his. I think he's a
great leader, of great head coach, and he's stinging himself. Look,
we just got done with a quarter of the season.

(01:02:30):
I see where we're at, I see where our divisions at.
We still have a fighting chance. Kyle Ireland has been
in this system before, he knows it better. He can
operate next to the better. Let's go with him, you know.
And it's still enough time that the season is not lost.
And and so I give him, I give Matt nig
I give those guys a lot of credit when tough

(01:02:53):
decisions have to be made and they're making them, not
wondering about what draft picked these guys on are this
this in the other They're making the decision what's best
for the football team. At the end of the day, man,
I think this could be the best thing for Washington
right now. And then now Alex Smith, Smith's the backup.
I'm kind of guys, I'm not going to lie, I'm
kind of nervous, like I don't I think I'm probably

(01:03:15):
more scared for Alex Smith to play than he's he's
and that's that's that's the part of this that I
don't understand. And maybe you've just being you know, a
quarterback and knowing much more about this stuff than any
of us would, But how do you like if you're
I understand, okay, you want to make the move and
you don't think Dwayne, Although I disagree with the move
because I don't think he's been given enough time to

(01:03:37):
to really show that he can play, But how does
he go from one to three on the depth chart
and the guy going ahead of him now is a
guy who almost lost his leg eighteen months ago like that,
It's just it's bizarre. That's what I don't understand about
the decision. Well, it's remarkable about just what Alex Smith
has gone through, not not only physically, guys, but mentally.

(01:03:59):
I mean I'm talking told my left peck off the bone,
I told both MCLs, my label and my rights show
or I have you know, head surgeries on my hands
for just located bones, and I mean there's nothing compared
to what Alex Smith went through. And it's still mentally
trying to get over an injury and taking that next
hit and everything like that. So I give him a

(01:04:20):
ton of credit, But I think like the decision for
Dwayne Haskins though now he could take a step back
and he can want and he could watch Alex Smith
prepare during the week for the game. He could watch
them enter the game and have no pressure on it,
and now he could sit back and take it all
the in. But when he does get his his other opportunity,

(01:04:41):
then maybe he is more prepared and more ready to go.
I mean, I think, honestly, I think it's it's a
fine decision. Like I agree with it because of the
standpoint of I know how it feels when you're in
an offense for multiple years. You just know it's just
more natural, comes easier, and it's almost nothing against Dwayne Haskins.
As agree, But then it goes back to the play

(01:05:02):
color exactly why Trabiski got betch. He wasn't playing awful
in that game. But if Matt Negie loses confidence as
a play color, which he did, then then it's just
an uptill battle. So you go with the guy you're
confident in, you think you could call plays better with,
and that knows what you're gonna knows what you're looking
for and how to run this offense. You know, Bruce,
I want to touch on that because you do have

(01:05:24):
their unique experience. If you could pull Dwayne Haskins to
the side, how would you tell them to handle this
demotion so that they could benefit him long term, because
the natural reaction is, like, man, these dudes just kind
of screwed me over. I was supposed to be starting quarterback.
I don't have an opportunity to really show people. How
do I stay engaged and statementally into it? Well, that's easy,

(01:05:45):
I'll answer that. Ask for a trade about that. You
get the hell out of there, or you get not
having a chance to play. Well, I mean, here's here's
the thing is. It's just it's it's a process, right,
This is a marathon, not a sprint. And look, I
started eleven games of rookie for John Rton and Tampa
Bay and then I got benched. And then the next

(01:06:06):
year Jeff Garcia they bring him in and I'm his backup.
He gets hurt during the game. I come in. We
end up winning the game, but Jeff's gonna be out
for a few weeks. Well, I'm now not the starter.
I'm now the third guy in Luke McCown starting. So
it's it's a mental battle each and every week, each
and every year if you're in that position fighting for
a job. And I think if I had Dwayne Haskins here, right,

(01:06:28):
now I say, look, you're young, you're developing, don't lose
that mental edge. Just continue to work, learn this offense
inside and out. Watch these veterans play because I've been
I've been through it myself. The opportunity will come again,
and it happened to me. I got Benson Tampa, I
bounced the Cleveland, I bounced to the Raiders and the

(01:06:49):
Raiders and I got that opportunity to be a starter
and play some Um. So it won't happen again. And
you just can't let yourself mentally get down or getting
your own way. Uh. And I think that's where Dwayne
Haskins is that he just he has to keep working it.
Don't make any excuses, Bruce Grandkowski, last one for me
before we let you go. Um And And I want

(01:07:10):
to go back, just quickly to the Tom Brady situation,
because I didn't think this was that big of a deal,
but it feels like it's a big deal because it's
twenty and also for the fact that it was a standalone,
nationally televised game, so people are gonna make a lot
of this. Him yelling at his offensive lineman like that,
I didn't to me, Tom Brady has done that for years.

(01:07:33):
Peyton Manning and Jeff Saturday almost gotten a fight on
the sideline one time, or an altercation because they were
screaming back and forth. Brady and Bill O'Brien screamed at
each other on the sideline. I didn't have as much
of an issue with it. Did you have an issue
with the way Brady was talking to his lineman on
National TV on the sidelines? No, I didn't. I mean,

(01:07:53):
it's not like Brady's purposely trying to do it on
National TV. You know, It's it's you're fired up, You're
you're in the middle of the game. It could have
been a busted pass protection, it could have been him
not getting enough time. Khalil Mack was all over him,
and it's kind of a way of like, come on, guys,
let's pick it up. It's not like, hey man, you know,
I hate you. You're not doing a good job. It's

(01:08:14):
it's like a motivating let's go. We're not playing good
right now. And I you know, I was in the
huddle with the Raiders were playing the Steelers at Haines Field.
It's a two minute throw. We're down by like four points,
and I have the offensive line looking at the school
in the middle of the two minutes through, like under
a minute left, and I yelled at him explicit language,
and I said, we can watch that after the game.

(01:08:37):
Get your butt in the huddle, and let's coep. It's
it's just kind of it's kind of reactionary. Um And
I think Brady has earned it now, it also has
you know, it comes with respect. Right, I'm still the
offensive line. The guys took it the right way, but
I mean you're you're just trying at that point to
motivate guys, and um, so no, I didn't. I think

(01:09:00):
I didn't think much of that. I do think, you know,
of course, we hope Brady the different standard that he
can't make that decision and think that it's fourth or
a third down when it was really fourth. I mean,
that's a huge mental air in the game. But that
stuff does happen, even to Tom Brady. Well, let me
ask you, what did Robert Gallery say when you were
screaming at him like that. No, I woun't. I wouldn't yet.

(01:09:30):
We had a bunch of different We had a bunch
of different guys fill him in that day, and there
was a lot of guys in my situation, we're trying
to earn a job and spot Uh so I do.
It's like, man, are plusher on the line? Uh? Hey wait,
so let me ask you. Yeah, because you don't want
to yell at an offensive lineman whose nickname is the undertaker.
That's that's never a good idea. But but who is

(01:09:51):
the offensive lineman you were most scared of, our most
intimidated of that you played with during your career. Oh man,
I mean Robert Gallery is a good one. You know.
Robert Gallery used to I don't know if you guys
knew this on the sideline, he would, you know, just
if he had to go to the bathroom and just
peanis in in his pants like it was. It was

(01:10:12):
like it was like a routine. Um uh. John Wade
he was my center in Tampa, and he was like,
you know, a vet and he was so loud. He
made all the protective coles. He was great, you know,
especially for a young rookie like myself. But he would
get so sweaty. And you're in Tampa, right, so I'm

(01:10:35):
getting a snap in my hand is soup and wet
and I'm not the biggest guy. To begin with some
I'm like Bobblers out there and getting cussed out by Gruden.
I'm like, dude, this center his bird is sup and wet.
He would have to change like his pants multiple times
for a football game. Uh hey, listen, it doesn't matter

(01:10:57):
how good of a quarterback you are. There is no
recovering from swamp ass. All right, It's just it's not happening. Uh.
It is. It is the kryptonite for every quarterback in
the NFL. It's just it's just the facts. That's that's
how this stuff works. Good stuff. Bruce Gradkowski. Um, now
quickly before let you go, Um, what's on the menu

(01:11:17):
for Bruce Gradkowski? The Toledo fight song is firing up?
What do we got on the menu there? Bruce? Well, guys,
you know I had to pick up Social tonight. That's
the restaurant I own, a Toledo and I actually couldn't
even wait to get home to eat it. There was
the Samon pancos, and my wife also made dinner. So
I'm beefing up tonight. I worked out this morning. I'm

(01:11:39):
ready to go there. He is. Get him on Twitter
at b Gradkowski five, former NFL quarterback analyst of Pro
Football Focus always kind enough to hang out with us
here on a Saturday, Bruce, We appreciate it, man, thanks
so much. We'll do it again next week. Yeah. Thanks, guys,
have a good week. Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks here on
Fox Sports Radio. I want to know what's really scary

(01:11:59):
seeing us how much you could have been saving on
car insurance by switching to Geiko. It's almost as scary
as watching your dog growl at the wall and realize
he sees something that you don't get a quote at
Geico dot com. Up next is the return of the
Iowa Minute, the worst segment in the history of sports
stock radio, and we'll show you why that's next. But

(01:12:21):
for all the latest from around the world of sports
ladies and gentlemen, the gas bad David Gasco. Why can't
we do both right now? I mean, you know, you know,
just you know, here we go, Here come the nerves,
come the nerves. By the way, the fact that we
brought up Robert Gallery from Iowa on the same hour

(01:12:42):
we do the Iowa Minute, I thought was a nice touch.
I'm surprised he didn't step all over your feet to interject.
By the way, Robert Gallery is from Manchester, Iowa. If
you guys have anything to know about anything about Iowa,
just ask me. I'm here for you all that, guys.
Number thirteen Auburn leads Arkansas twenty to twelve. This ball

Iowa State right now is taking on Texas Tech. Purty

(01:13:26):
the town to five touchdown priest all eleven yards out.
Tied the game at seven apiece. But we're not done.
Early second quarter high snapped the Purty goes up to
get it now, scrambles to his right, looks to the
end zone, throws it touchdown Chase Allen. Beautifully done by
Brock Purty. He bought time rolling right and then he

(01:13:46):
found Chase Allen for the touchdown. Jonas said, in my
ear he wants more, so we'll give him more second
goal from about a foot away. All the running back
Purty gives it to him. He leaps into the end
zone from the touchdown. Brock Pretty Breese, Solve doing everything
they can for the Cyclones. They seven Jonas. That'll do

I love it alright. Coming up next, Coming up next,
a very nervous and scrambling Iowa Sam, who will have
the Iowa Minute for you. And if you're wondering why
he's nervous, it's because Dave Gascon just played all the
highlights Sam was gonna use. It's like it's like a
comic going in front of another comic and using all

(01:14:50):
his jokes. So now Sam's gonna scramble. He's got five
minutes to figure it out. The Iowa Minute is next
here on fs ARE. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knoxis

It's time that we, for some reason do this every
single week on the show. Just take it away up

(01:15:32):

give a damn now, presenting the most up to date
happenings from Iowa's four Division one teams, Ladies and gentlemen,
cows and pigs. It's the Iowa Minute. Here's Iowa Sam

(01:15:55):
Wow Grain Prices firing off a little early there, All right, guys,
i A State. They're back in the rankings at number
twenty four after it's wild win over Oklahoma last Saturday,
currently hosting Texas Tech. I'll get you guys updated on
that game in a moment, because I know you need
an update on that game. But first, yet another conference
Accolade blew Right in the door for i was State

(01:16:16):
Earlier this week, tailback Breeese Hall named the standalone Big
twelve Offensive Player of the Week against the Sooners. One
thirty nine and two touchdowns for Hall, who actually leads
the Big Twelve with five hundred and ten yards rushed.
That includes a hundred and fourteen yards today against the
Red Raiders. He's also scored twice today. Now, I was

(01:16:39):
going to play one of those touchdowns, but Dave beat
me to it, so I'm just gonna go ahead and
scrap that, you know what, Actually, screw it. Here we go,
Here we go, John Walters on the call Learfield, I
amg College. It was one seven at the half. We

(01:17:01):
are about four or three or four minutes left in
the third quarter. Last thing about this game, guys. Seven.
By the way, what Texas has lost? Oklahoma? Guess who's
on top of the early Big twelve standings? Anybody? Iowa State?
Actually Oklahoma State and also Iowa State. How about that?

(01:17:26):
Very good man? They're both sneaky. It's like the end
of the crying game in there, all right, pressing on here,
Iwa State up up on Texas Tech by fourteen. Guys,
have you ever been inside? Have you been to the Pentagon.
Have you been to the Pentagon? Guys? Is that a bar? You? Guys?

(01:17:47):
Have ever been to the Pentagon? No? I haven't tight
security at that Pentagon. But they're actually letting in a
couple of college basketball teams into a pentagon, the Sanford
Pentagon in Sioux Falls South, December ninete. According to CBS
Sports dot com, can we end this damn segment? Inside
Luca Garza and number five Iowa challenging number one Gonzaga

(01:18:11):
Those rankings of CBS Sports dot Com. That man's basketball
preview brought to you by up to the minute Grain Prices.
That's it. That's the Iowa minute. By the way, I hear,
if Iowa loses that game, they're gonna have to change
their name to car Zaga. I like it, is that true?
That's true? This segment makes me a worse host. I'm

(01:18:34):
telling you right now, I'm sorry. We have a minute
to a second. Alright, alright, alright, okay, this is insane.
It's just so people know what just happened. Now, Sam
was counting us down. If Sam was counting us down

(01:18:58):
as if the hour was ending, Only to realize he
had another minute left in the hour. I thought it seemed.
I was like, you know what, I got through all
the stories and I'm like, man, that really was fast.
All right? We got about thirty seconds. That is unreal.
Let me just give my regards Northern Iowa Drake who
keep continue to keep low profile. That's your Iowa minute,
all right, are very good, very good way to stick

(01:19:21):
the landing there. Um, oh my gosh, I've tried. I
told to you, man. Listen, Dave Gascon was onto something
months ago and he said, we got to get rid
of the segment. He was onto something never It's the
game of the season in college football so far, and

(01:19:41):
we will hear from somebody who was as close as
you could possibly be to the action coming up here
in just a couple of moments. That guy right over

what the hell is happenings? A great day, a great

(01:20:25):
day in l A. But it was a great game
on Fox earlier a classic at the Cotton Bowl. And
Jenny Taft she's the host of Fox Sports ones Undisputed.
She was on the sidelines for the call for Fox
to see Oklahoma win in four over times over their

(01:20:46):
arch rival Texas. And Jenny Jonas and Bucky, we always
appreciate you spending a few minutes with us here on
a very busy Saturday for you as well. Absolutely, guys,
that is the first for me. Four overtimes and boy,
wasn't worth it. I gotta ask you, and I don't
even mean this to be sarcastic, but have you ever
been on the sidelines for a boring game? Um? You know?

(01:21:10):
I talk to you guys after some good ones. That's
a very good point. Of course they're blowouts. But I
am a bit spoiled like Fox. We have so many
good games that I do feel like our Saturday big
don't kickoff game like, there's always a plenty of storylines
going into this one and what's crazy about Oklahoma Texas?
Obviously both were coming in, you know, following a loss

(01:21:32):
back to back for Oklahoma in a game where you
think it might not be as exciting, it was the
most exciting Red River I've ever seen. And you know
it's in my interview with Lincoln Riley after the game.
I said, we're gonna be talking about this one for
a while, and he said, we're gonna be talking about
this one forever. And that's just a sense of the
ups and downs. You know, it had everything, and it

(01:21:54):
was it was wild. It was wild like in thinking
about it, um, it appeared at Oklahoma played a little
closer to the vest with their young quarterback Spencer Rattler.
Were there any I mean, they obviously took him out
and put him back in and those things. What is
the sense that you get in terms of how Lincoln
Riley feels about his young quarterback. I was very intrigued

(01:22:17):
and impressed in following that story right from the beginning.
Of course, I mean, Spencer Rattler is the guy, He's
the story for Oklahoma, and I was I was intrigued
by it in so many different ways. Look, I talked
to Spencer earlier this week and he told me about
the amount of respect he has for the rivalry. He's
well aware that you know, they haven't been finishing these games.

(01:22:38):
That's something that's bent on his mind. And that was
the mindset going into this week, was finishing, was trusting
his teammates and for whatever reason, and I think Lincoln
gets all the credit here, he could sense that his
quarterback was overthinking. He had those two turnovers and unfortunately
he had to make a change. And I think the

(01:22:59):
moment Tender Mortick goes into the game. Spencer Rattler, there
was a moment where he appeared to be being evaluated
on the sideline with his his throwing arm, but it
was minor. I mean, this was a very quick look
that the injury was not the case. And I think
Lincoln Riley was sending a message to Spencer and we
I saw a completely different energy to Spencer to how

(01:23:22):
he was carrying himself on the sideline. You know, red River,
regardless of how if we have fans in the stands,
it is one of those games that just feels different
and It's hard to describe, but it's rivalry and you
know how much it matters, and you can try to
be doing more than you need to do. And I
think we were starting to see Spencer Rattler just thinking
too hard. So I give Lincoln all the credit for

(01:23:44):
taking him out. I also give him a lot of
credit for never really throwing his quarterback under the bus.
For me, I mean I questioned him at the break
multiple times. I made sure it wasn't an injury. I
I asked if Tan Tanner would be back. I asked
what had happened with Spencer, and he was like, you
know what, I wanted to get Tara involved. Spencer is available.
We're gonna wait and see. And I give him credit
for that, even though of course I want more. But

(01:24:06):
he lets Spencer take a moment, regain composure, and just
settle into it. And that's what we saw from him
in the second half, and his performance throughout those four overtimes.
I mean that's textbook. Yeah, he was awesome. And if
you just look at the splits from the first half
to the second half, clearly whatever the strategy was that
Lincoln Riley employed worked on Spencer Rattler Jenny Taff joining

(01:24:30):
us here on Fox Sports Radio, host of Fox Sports
ones Undisputed. She was on the sidelines for the four
overtime classic between Texas and Oklahoma for Fox Earlier Today,
Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks of the here on fsr um.
What were the conditions like on the field? And the
reason I asked that is because there's gonna be Tom

(01:24:50):
Herman's gonna get some criticism, and I've already seen some
of this float out there, and we like to do
this hindsight coaching when we're not even anywhere near the field.
But there was an opportunity at the end of the game,
at the end of regulation, and some people are gonna say,
why didn't you go for two? It felt like he
had Oklahoma on the ropes. I didn't. I thought he
made the right decision just kicking the extra point. But

(01:25:11):
were you surprised that, seeing Oklahoma and their defense clearly
shook by whatever Texas was doing, that Texas didn't try
and step on the throat and try and end the
game right then and there. It's wild because that feels
like so long ago. But now that I think back
on that moment, you know, I think back on that moment,
and you bring up a really good point because I

(01:25:32):
had witnessed on the Oklahoma sideline defensive coordinator Alex Grinch
ream his defense and he had called everyone over. He
said the way they had basically celebrated, Uh, I think
they were celebrating and it was the turnover, but he
was frustrated by He was upset that they were kind
of not focused in that sense, and you know, the secondary,

(01:25:55):
the defense, They've been questioned for a while. So I
understood why Grinch was upset, and I understood why the
message was received and they were down at that point.
So when I look back at it, sure could he
have gone for two and gotten it? Sam was on
a roll. I think you're gonna that's one that might
keep you up at night if you're a Texas fan.
But given the pace of the game, I and that

(01:26:17):
Spencer had had some inconsistencies early. I kind of feel like,
you go to overtime and you go that route. In
my head, I didn't sense that people were shocked by
the decision, uh to take it to overtime in a
lot of ways, But you know, when you look back
at it, that would have been pretty amazing if they'd
want it that way, you know, Jenny thinking about that,

(01:26:38):
Like continue the Tom Herman conversation. There's a lot of
especially on the Twitter verse, there's a lot of outrage
um over Tom Herman's inability to get this Texas team
to the next level. Um, I think you've seen them
a few times. What is Texas missing? What is keeping
them from being one of those franchises or programs that
we talked about, is one to top ten? You know,

(01:26:58):
it's such a good question, Shin and boy, I know
that the Texas fan base is asking themselves that. And
every time I'm on the phone with Coach Herman and
every time I talked to the players about them, I
get a sense that this team is close like every
I don't know if I'm being fooled by it, but
I really get a sense that they feel like they
have the talent and the potential. And they made a

(01:27:22):
very clear emphasis all week. Coach Herman said on Sunday
they had a meeting. It was the best Sunday meeting
that they had ever had as a team. Sam got up,
he spoke to the guys, he talked about accountability and
meeting more and we have the talent. I mean, every
time I talked to them, I'm around them, I buy it.
I mean, I really think that they're gonna be you know,

(01:27:42):
they're gonna Texas is back, right, I mean that horror.
I know Sam said it, but like they're just this
program that has such high expectations and I know they
deserve more. And I know that Coach Herman is going
to take some heat from this one. But you've got
to look at the way they fought back today and
Sam Ellie, I mean that was Sam and I feel
for him. That was his last Red River. I've always

(01:28:04):
been blown away by leadership and his just will to win,
and that one hurt. And I saw Lincoln go over
to him immediately after the game and just give him
a congrats. But you know, he's solidified himself as as
such an important QB in Texas history. But I know
that one's going to sing four Texas And for a
Longhorns fan, I rode home with Emmanuel Acho, who was

(01:28:26):
a part of our show today, and you know, like
that hurts. That hurts so much for Longhorn fans, and
it's going to take a little bit to come down
from it. I mean, you know, listen, I'm not trying
to start anything here, but Bucky Brooks and Emmanuel Acho
I've seen go at it numerous times on Fox Sports once,
so you know, just you know, make sure you don't
say that you're gonna be talking with Bucky Brooks because

(01:28:47):
I don't want to. I don't want to. I'm just saying,
Jenny tap So so here's the question. Then we talked
about this a little bit last week. You were there
on the sidelines for Arkansas State's upset of Kansas State.
You were there on the sidelines for Kansas State's upset
of Oklahoma. You were there on the sidelines for tc
US upset of Texas, and then you saw one of

(01:29:09):
the great Red River Red River games in the history
of the rivalry earlier today. So what insane game are
you going to be on the sidelines for next week?
Do you have any idea which game you're gonna be
calling yet? Uh? You know what, guys, I don't even think.
I don't know even know if I'm going to be
calling a game because we might be doing it from
l A, so I don't know if I'm gonna be going.

(01:29:29):
It would be West Virginia Kansas is our is our
next destination, um, and I think that the plan is
we're going to be calling it from l A, So
I'm not actually sure if I'm gonna be there. So
I really just ruined that theme that we were sticking
with about the crazy games I've then at. So maybe
if you guys could just take a game for me
to go to and then I'll just show up wherever

(01:29:50):
you want a good game, I'll see there and be
a part of it. But you know, it is crazy,
and I just I love this job. I think back
and being about being a sideline or for and why
I wanted to do it, and it's for those moments.
I mean, no one went into this game thinking we
would have four overtimes? Like what what is college football?
This year? It's the craziest ups and downs? And this

(01:30:12):
year has looked and felt different, but we're still getting
these moments and we're seeing these such incredible games. And
we didn't have as many fans in the Cotton Bowl
this year, but who cares. We're gonna remember it well, Jenny,
I have one more question for you here before we
let you go a little behind the scenes question because
I'm curious when you're on the set of Undisputed and

(01:30:32):
it's right after a Lakers win and who knows it
could be the Lakers winning an NBA title, and Skip
and Shannon are getting ready to go. Shannon doesn't bother
to get his makeup done before he puts the goat
mask on, right, because that seems that seems like a
waste of time because he puts this goat mask on.
I would assume that he goes to make up after
he takes the goat mask off. Correct. That's pretty funny,

(01:30:54):
very good question, very inside behind the scene scoop. You know,
I don't even Shannon doesn't need me up, like he
hasn't aged in years. Like the guy looks incredible and
I can say that because he takes such a good
care of himself. He worked out like eight hours a day,
still eat so clean. And I can't win with those guys.

(01:31:15):
You know, the mask is pretty insane. Obviously it wasn't
gonna come out. Well, we'll have to wait and see.
But the performance last night, you wouldn't have had it
on today from home, I didn't get to see him.
But the thing is so unique about those guys, like hey,
just they come ready to battle. And for the record,
I'm very willing to remind Skipp just how clutch center

(01:31:36):
Rattler was in this game because he is. Hey criticized
the quarterbacks just a little bit Monday, fair enough. Jenny Taft,
she's the best at Jenny Taft on Twitters where you
can find her, the host of Fox Sports ones Undisputed,
and it was on the sidelines for the classic earlier
between Texas and Oklahoma. Jenny, we always appreciate it. Thanks
so much for the time. Enjoy it. Thanks, guys, have

(01:32:00):
a good day. There she is, Jenny tap Jonas knocks
Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio. UM, I don't
know how Skip Bayliss keeps a straight face. Shannon puts
on that coat mask. I have no idea how he
keeps a straight face, or when when Club Sha is open,
I have no idea how he keeps a straight faces.

(01:32:20):
It's pro wrestling. It's basically pro wrestling. It's a lot.
It's a lot. But man, in thinking about the pro
wrestling theme, if the Lakers don't win all Sunday, God
and Shannon has to go into Monday. Yeah, it's over.
It is over, and God forbid the Cowboys win. Oh Man, Yeah, yeah,

(01:32:41):
that's that's called double barrel action. From from skip side
of the table, let me can I let me just
ask you this. So Lincoln Riley makes the decision to
bench Spencer Rattler, and if you just look at the
splits between the first half and what he did in
the second half and over time, he was eight of
thirteen for under seventy yards passing, and he had two turnovers.

(01:33:04):
After he came back out for the second half and overtime,
he had it was fifteen of twenty two for a
buck ninety two. He had three touchdowns and no turnovers,
and he had forty seven yards rushing. You're a coach,
do you just know which guys are going to respond
to being benched like that? Because it feels like that's

(01:33:24):
not the norm that you bench a quarterback and then
you bring him back in the same game in football.
So so he must have clearly seen something out of
him to know that that's how he was going to
respond that way. Either that or he just guessed. I
think he guessed. I think because I can confidently say
I don't know if Spencer Red has ever been a
backup quarterback for anybody in his lifetime, and so to

(01:33:47):
do it on this stage as a freshman um trying
to win a big rivalry game. Yeah, this is tough.
But he was struggling and so he seemed to kind of,
you said, his focus, gained his confidence back, and slowly
but surely he started to make plays. I think the
one thing that stands out when you look at him,
the talent is undeniable. It's about the experience that he

(01:34:10):
needs so he can be the player that a lot
of us think he's going to be at Oklahoma. Jonas
Socks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next, somebody in
the NFL got the shaft. Somebody in the NFL got
absolutely screwed over. We'll tell you who that is next
year on fs ARE. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox.
This is Fox Sports Radio. You can check out. This

(01:34:33):
show is always on the I Heart Radio app uh
and wherever you are hanging out with us here on
a busy, busy Saturday in the world of college football
and beyond, we appreciate you doing so. Coming up here
ten minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio. We're
gonna go into the gutter, into the gutter of sports

(01:34:53):
talk radio with the one and only David Gascon. That's
coming up ten minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio,
Bucky Brooks. We were talking with Bruce Gradkowski earlier and
he was saying how he was good with the decision
by Ron Rivera to bench Dwayne Haskins and go to
Kyle Allen. Um, I love Bruce, I completely disagree. I

(01:35:17):
think Dwayne Haskins got the shaft. I think he got
absolutely screwed over. And the fact that he was relegated
all the way down to the third string behind Alex Smith.
I don't understand it. I don't get it, and I
don't buy for a second that it was well, we've
got a real shot at winning the NFC East, that's
why we made the decision. I think Ron Rivera was

(01:35:39):
out on Dwayne Haskins from the start, and all this
was was just going through the motions and waiting for
the right time for to pull the excuse and pull
the trigger on wanting to get rid of Dwayne Haskins
and bringing Kyle Allen. I just don't buy it. Yeah,
I'm gonna go, but below that. I won't say Ron
Rivera was out on him from the jump, but I
will say this, Scott Turner was always in cal Allen

(01:36:01):
the offensive coordinator. Scott Turner was the former quarterback coach
and then eventually he was elevated offensive coordinator in Carolina
with cal Kyle Allen. He found Kyle Allen as an
undrafted free agent and brought him in, developed him to
the point where he was able to make a roster
and he has a strong belief that Kyle Allen can

(01:36:21):
be a starting quarterback in the National Football League. That
is not me speculating from the outside. Ind I've had
those conversations with Scott Turner and he's a big Kyle
Allen advocate. And so when they made the trade to
bring him over, I knew that Dwayne Haskins was look

(01:36:42):
he was on a short leash. He was going to
have to play at an exceptional level to fend off
the challenge from Allen. The wording, the words that you've
heard come out of Washington regarding why they made the move,
everything centered around not that Kyle Allen was a better player,
but he knows our system and based on our system,

(01:37:03):
we we we just feel like it's fair to everybody
because of the system, and we can do so many
more things. A lot of what you see Jonas in
this league. Guys keep guys around because they may know
the playbook, not necessarily that they can play. But if
I spit out the plays to you, we can go
up on the white board and we can play this

(01:37:24):
who has the pencil last? And it looks good. So
nowther Cal Allen is the starter, He's gonna have an
opportunity to to succeed because he does not the system.
He will enable Scott Turning to get the other pages
of the playbook. He will give him an opportunity to
maybe expand the game plans that they had been using.
But at some point it comes down to whether a

(01:37:46):
guy can play or not. And we will see if
Kyle Allen can play. What I will say is the
first four games that he started at Carolina, he won
all of them. Passer rating was over one oh six.
The last eight games that he started, he would one
and seven. Passer rating was at seven touchdown. The interception
race you was ten to fifteen. And so we will

(01:38:07):
see when the league gets a book on you as
a player, the more they see, the more they understand
what you can and what you can do, and then
it's on you as the quarterback to constantly adapt and adjust.
We'll see if Cayl Allen has adjusted from the last
time we saw him start, which at the end of
the year last year for the Carolina Panthers. Here's why
I don't buy their reasoning behind it. And this is

(01:38:28):
why I think Ron river and and the Washington was
and I almost said the former team name, almost did it,
but I caught myself broadcast professional. Here's why I think
that they were out on Dwayne Haskins. If it's about
not being familiar with the system, the best way to
get familiar with the system is with reps, is with action.

(01:38:50):
And we talk about this all the time. How many
reps do backup quarterbacks and furthermore, third string quarterbacks get
in practice us at that offense. Yes, so this is
all about we needed somebody, uh, you know, and we
wanted somebody who was more familiar with the system. Wouldn't
make sense if you actually believe that Dwayne Haskins could

(01:39:13):
be the guy, that you would leave him out there
and let him learn on the job. He's only gotten
eleven starts and he's on his third coach in Washington.
He never got a fair shot at this thing. And
the fact that they were talking last week and I
knew this was gonna be a matter of time. The
fact that there was reports that came out last week

(01:39:34):
that if Dwayne Haskins wasn't playing well, that they were
going to make the switch during the Baltimore game. Neat
you mean this team that's in a rebuild mode, this team,
this organization that's been dysfunctional for years and years, and
unless I play really well against Baltimore, one of the
best teams in the league, I'm gonna get benched. I

(01:39:55):
just don't I don't buy any of it. If this
this clearly was Kyle Allen, we prefer him over Dwayne
house Haskins. We like him more than we like Dwayne Haskins. Otherwise,
if you really thought Dwayne Haskins had potential, you'd leave
him in there and let him learn on the job
and figure this thing out. Because I actually don't think
Dwayne Haskins has been as bad as some people make

(01:40:17):
him out to be. No, I mean, that's the thing.
And you can make the case that Dwayne Haskins has
been on par with Sam Donald and Daniel Jones, and
both of those guys aren't necessarily looking over their shoulder,
and people are talking about totally tracing them. The thing
about it, Jonathan, you know, in every business, our business
that we're in right now, you need to have an
advocate in the building that is going to give you

(01:40:39):
an opportunity to play through the mistakes that you make, UM,
because they see your potentially in what you could be.
In Washington, Dwayne Haskins didn't have any advocates in the building.
He was drafted by I can't even say the last
regime because I don't believe that Jake Ruten was really
an advocate UM. And so when you don't have advocates,
you have to play above and beyond. And so for him,

(01:41:02):
playing average got him fired. And so we will see.
But the challenge will be for Dwayne Haskins, can he
dig down deep and continue to be a professional and
think about the long term deal? Meaning can I become
a better player? So when I do get an opportunity,
whether in Washington or somewhere else, I'm ready for it.
Because once the bloom is off, the rolls as we've

(01:41:25):
seen with Josh rosen Man. Now you and unprotected status.
Now your game has to speak for you, and all
that other stuff doesn't matter, doesn't come matter where you
were drafted in, what kind of status you came into
the league with. Now it's all about your performers, your production.
That means he has to be ready to perform and
he gets his next chance. And and here's here's where

(01:41:45):
this is going to go. Because you talked about look,
he's he's I mean, you can make the comp to
Sam Donald and to Daniel Jones and people will come
back with, well, yeah, but you know this regime didn't
draft Dwayne Haskins. Oh well, Joe Judge didn't draft Daniel Jones.
Adam Gaze didn't draft Sam Donald. But there's at least

(01:42:07):
to your point, some support for those guys. I wonder
if the one guy who wanted Dwayne Haskins was Daniel Snyder,
and that's what we'd always heard, and because of everything
that's gone on off the field, I wonder if this
is a guilt by association that because Daniel Snyder is
the one who wanted Dwayne Haskins, and I believe they

(01:42:27):
have a relationship don't. They don't the families know each other. Okay,
So because of that, I wonder if Dwayne Haskins is
the fall guy for the issues with Daniel Snyder. And
because Daniel Snyder's trying to keep quiet and keep a
low profile right now because all the crap that's gone

(01:42:49):
on with him involved, he can't step up and and
share his voice and give his opinion on what he
wants this situation to be. And I wonder if this
is just simply guilt by association. Dwayne Haskins is painted
as uh, Daniel Snyder's guy, and because of that, he's
got to go. That's That's what I wonder is happening here?

(01:43:12):
A big picture, Oh, I think some of that has
definitely happening. I believe a lot of that is is happening.
Is just one of those unfortunate situations where um Ron
Rivera is in charge. He is basically running the entire show,
and so he's gonna lean heavily on his coaches. And
if you have in the offensive coordinated, who is the
play caller? Who is telling you man? And you know

(01:43:33):
how this can be man? Man like? The stuff is open. Coach,
he just doesn't see it like if you put the
other guy in, I promise you to work. So now
we get a chance to see what the other guy
looks like. You know, and you can talk about your
system and all this, but the more did you do
these things? And Ron Rivera is a great, great guy.
He's gonna stand up and he's gonna take the fall.

(01:43:53):
But this is where your coaches have been empowered. And
so we we will see not only from Ron Rivera,
but we'll see it's our turner as a play call it.
We will see if it makes a difference having your guy,
because everybody wants their guys. So Kyle Alan as this
guy we'll see. And then the backup is Alex Smith.
Why that's the thing I don't understand why all the

(01:44:14):
way to third well, I think here's the thing. Um.
I think the people in that building Revere Alex Smith.
Alex Smith is the salt of the earth, one of
the best people that you can be around. Just listen
to the people that have supplanted him talk about how
he supported them and gave them everything when it came

(01:44:34):
to it. We heard Colin Kaepernick talking about Alex Smith.
We heard Pat Mahomes talk about Alex Smith. Dwayne Haskins
has even talked about Alex Smith and how he supported him,
and so, look, he's a great dude. He is a
smart quarterback. He's played at a Pro Bowl level. And
so if you're Ron Rivere and you're looking down the
line and you're looking at where the NFC East is, maybe,

(01:44:56):
just maybe if Alex Smith is healthy, and they would
know better than we because they've seen him on the
this field, He's like, well, I mean, if I have to,
I'll put the guy in. I'll put the guy in
and I'll see if we can find a way to
win games. I don't think they have a good enough
supporting cast around any quarterback to be able to succeed.
But you know, when you coaches, that's what you do.
Bucky Brooks Jonas knocks here on Fox Sports Radio from

(01:45:18):
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next, we're
gonna go into the gutter with David Gascon literally into
the gutter in the world of sports. That's next here

end of the hour. I have a contractually obligated to

(01:48:13):
a sports story. So how about this one? Aaron Judge's
girlfriend twenty six years of age pleads guilty to a
d U I I bring that up why because she
was pomped in Arizona earlier this year, and when she
got arrested, she said, quote, do you know who my
boyfriend is? And now here I am handcuffed in Arizona?
Like this is not good end Quote, Um, yeah, that

(01:48:38):
is uh kind of handcuffs. How do you know that
is that is true? Um? How do people still get
to us? I don't understand and lift and stuff like that. Yeah,
I don't understand. It's never been easier, it's never Look,
but you know how this goes In some places. Back

(01:48:58):
in the day, it was really hard to get a cab,
really hard to get a cab, and so you either
had to have somebody stay sober, or there was somebody
who rolled the dice that and that is just being
totally truthful. And I know a lot of guys who
I said, listen, man, you should not be driver, and no, no, no,
I'm fine, and they got there and they made it okay.

(01:49:19):
But nowadays, you've got Uber, you've got Lift, there's all
sorts of possibilities. All you have to do is press
a button. Why do people still get to use I
don't get it. I don't understand. It's just it's dumb.
I don't I don't understand. Let's go alive so I
have a drinking problem. I was sam for the come on,

(01:49:40):
can you explain this to us? Uh? You know, thanks
for that inter introduction there. I was actually gonna say,
isn't aren't Uber and Lift like in Limbo right now?
They are here in California. They have to get a
Prop twenty two to pass to bring them back. You
try and get an Uber in California and a giant
middle finger comes back, unless unless you're going to the
Governor's winery in northern Calina. That's a little bit different.

(01:50:03):
I digress. Guys. We go from the drama. There to
something happening in Louisiana. I know it's one of your
favorite football teams, Jonas, the Raging Cajuns. How about this.
Reverend Travis Clark is in some trouble, guys. He was
busted a few days ago after a passer by saw
lights on inside of a church, a Roman Catholic church. Uh,

(01:50:28):
inside was the priest. Unidentified witnesses said that they saw
a half naked priest with two not one, two dominatrices
on an altar making love, dressed in corsets and high
heeled boots. Yes. The altar was also set with stage lighting,

(01:50:50):
several toys, and a cell phone mounted on a tripod
that was recording the entire thing. What I mean, I
mean can go all out? That is that is fantasy day. Yeah,
talking about method acting. Um, here's here, here's the thing,

(01:51:10):
and I'm just gonna try and come up with maybe
a reason why this happened. Um, sometimes some of the
light is living in the South. Sometimes some of the
lighting isn't the best in certain places. Maybe they thought
they were in a hot topic and so that's why, Uh,
they were addressed the way they were, and things went
down The way they did made that is uh, I

(01:51:36):
don't even I'll be honest with the Dave, but I
don't really know where to go with that will somewhere else.
It sounds like it sounds like the the drunk Reverend
off true detective oh Man, David Dave. What's the plural
of matrix dominatrix, dominate, domin domin It's the neighborhood metal

(01:52:00):
band Yeah is too. This is a great at osfest.
This is an awful story, but I'll bring it up anyway. Um,
we all have kind of those weird library you got
a book that needs to be returned story? How about
this one? Randall Nelson Witted Witted that's his name, formerly

(01:52:24):
of Austin, Texas, is a library employee accused of stealing
more than one million dollars worth of supplies in order
to resell items online. This guy was stealing and using
credit cards one point three million dollars worth a printer
toner over a twelve year period, according to the Austin
City Auditor. What a loser, What a loser? Oh my god?

(01:52:47):
Honest to guy? What like there? Look what like if
you were to walk in like if you pulled a
rex Chapman and tried to steal from an Apple store
and then yeah, I mean okay, yeah yeah, and then
and then and then ste videos online. Yeah, no kidding, man,
what a thief. He's basic. He's basically the Robin Williams
of Twitter. Just steal himself. Robin Williams is a joke thief.

(01:53:11):
That's a fact, all right. He's like, what's a mind
of Mencia? Carlos Mencia. That guy's a joke thief too. Um.
Here's and and by the way, led Zeppelin thieves too.
Stole from the Yardbirds birds. That's a fact. Sorry, Jeff,
I'm sorry, but who am I thinking of? He stop?

(01:53:33):
Jay Page was the guitar player for the Yardbirds and
for led Zeppelin. So there, here's here. Here's here's the thing.
If you're gonna steal, why a library? What did you did?
You really need that many? A racers? I don't understand.
That's pretty good tons expensive, yeah, really expensive. It's like
owner's expensive. Yeah, it's like it's like the mail equivalent

(01:53:55):
of razor blades. You're going for a little pack, like
the cartridge. It's like four razors for when he five.
I used to do telemarketing and we would we would
sell inc Intoner And um, I mean I basically got
fired from that job because I was applying for radio
jobs while I was on the clock. That's a true story.

(01:54:15):
They checked through my search history on my computer and
the guy pulled me in and said, I was like, listen, man,
he was really nervous. It was like, you don't have
to be scared. I'm not gonna hit you or anything.
I deserve to be fired. You're absolutely right. I'm terrible
at this job and I was applying for radio jobs
that Sorry, you know, just being on being honest here. Um,
but yeah, I've I've never never thought to steal from

(01:54:35):
a library. That's never been my move. All right, how
about this one? You go from stealing to getting rid
of the evidence. This man, a Michigan man, is facing
up to ten years in prison. Guys, he was involved
in a traffic accident in Brighton, Michigan. UM. When he
got involved in the traffic accident, he was so upset
and impaired that he left his car and started throwing

(01:54:55):
rocks and forty pounds sandbags over an for pass, striking
other cars other individuals that were driving by. There are
several victims that were hurt. They weren't killed, but they
were injured. State police that tweeted out that he was
throwing things from one freeway onto another. Um, I mean,

(01:55:17):
do I gotta be the one to say this kind
of impressive strength? Wait? Do you think he was going
like world's strongest man with the kegs? That's That's what
I'm thinking. Like he was like magnus ver magnussens good,
like like throwing Ah, you know, I mean sandbags. That
stuff is difficult to deal with sometimes. Yeah. I mean

(01:55:37):
he also was a loser, no doubt about it. But
I mean, you know, that is an impressive feat of strength. Say, guys,
I have one other quick story from Iowa. What's this
guy's name? Is Tyree Conyer's page. He was arrested just
a few days ago for allegedly misusing two dollars in
donations for Black Lives Matter and in turn buying a

(01:55:57):
home and suits. All right, probably should have just stopped
at the Dominatricy story. I think about that. You know,
Actually he wasn't from my from Tolo. Okay, Well you
know it makes a story better, all right, So there
it is, Uh, David gascon Well done. I think got
it with David Gascon, Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks here on

(01:56:19):
Fox Sports Radio from the Ganico Fox Sports Radio Studios,
coming up next. Just just a broadcast professional through and through.
If you don't think so, stick around at yours next
year on FSR. Take that, Jonas. Take that for Jonas,
he's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports
Radio coming up less than ten minutes from now here

(01:56:42):
on fs ARE Bucky Brooks is starting to give some
love to one player in the NFL. We will have
that four year ten minutes from now on Fox Sports Radio. Now, Bucky,
you asked the question earlier in the show whether or
not I could be fair and balanced to the Lakers

(01:57:02):
and the Miami Heat and their Game five that took
place on Friday night, because I was on the air
a short time after that game happened, and I want
you to know that I was a broadcast professional. I
think you kind of doubted me. But I do actually
have the open to the show last night here on
Fox Sports Radio if you'd like to hear it and
judge for yourself. It is Laker Country and celebration the

(01:57:22):
Los Angeles Lakers have done it again. Another world championship,
this time crowned on Friday night in the bubble in Orlando.
And here's how it sounded, courtesy of the Heat Radio Network.
Throws it down the floor, Lebron, what's up the shot?
And Miami wins the ball game? How about that the

(01:57:43):
Heat survive for a game six on Sunday? Okay, uh, my,
my apologies, my apologies. That was a mistake on our end. Um,
bear with us. We're still kind of tightening some things
up here, traffic stuff like that. Um, we have the
I'm being told we have the right cut now. So here.
It was the final of the Lakers and another championship

(01:58:07):
for a proud organization like the Los Angeles Lakers. Tondo
throws it down the floor, Lebron puts up the shot,
and Miami wins the ball game. How about that Heat
survive for a game six on Sunday. I want to
apologize again. This is this is really embarrassing. UM. I

(01:58:29):
put a lot of time in to prepare for this show,
and so I'm assuming that the guys on this show
are ready to go when we start the show. Here.
This is a national show. This has heard like I
said on over two hundred Fox Sports radio affiliate. So
I am really really embarrassing, and I apologize for the
mistakes that have already been made. Uh So once again, um,

(01:58:51):
because clearly that was a mistake. I mean, the Lakers
won the championship five games. Everyone said five games, So
clearly that was a mistake. So we do have the
correct now. Now, congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers. Courtesy
of the Heat Radio Network. Tondo throws it down the floor, Lebron,
what's up the shot? And Miami wins the ball game?
How about that? The Heat survive for a game six

(01:59:15):
on Sunday. Wait, wait, wait a second, the Lakers lost.
I mean, you know, you're you're you're the joker. I
am er you're you're the joker. Listen, listen. It was

(01:59:38):
a simple mistake. I felt like we corrected it on
the air. All Right, you're not gonna Dwayne Haskins me listen.
I'm not gonna say that Bucky Brooks should apologize for
something on the air, but I myself will apologize for
something on the air. So much like Bucky inadvertently called
me out for something, I would like to call him

(02:00:00):
out for something that's coming up here in just a
couple of moments. He is Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox.
This is Fox Sports Radio. You can check out the
show is always on the I Heart Radio app and
wherever you are hanging out with us here on a
busy Saturday around the world of sports. We appreciate you
doing so as we come to you alive from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio studios, where fifteen minutes could save

(02:00:22):
you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Visit Geico
dot com for a free rate. Quote my guy, Bucky Brooks,
what's happening? What's going on? What's happening? I think you
know you took a shot at me earlier this week.
How do I take a shot? Um? You sent something
out on Twitter and I felt like it was a

(02:00:44):
direct shot at me. I felt like it was an
attack on me, and I felt like it was you
were aiming it at me, UM without maybe even realizing it. Um.
You pointed out you dirt. If people, when it's all
said and done, that were critical of Doug Peterson's decision

(02:01:06):
to go for the tie in their game against the
Cincinnati Bengals, if those same people were going to come
back and apologize if it turns out that that's the
difference between them winning the division and not as opposed
to going for the win and maybe having another loss
in the another one in the lost column. And um,

(02:01:26):
you felt like that was directed towards you, Yeah, because
you know, I kind of I don't want to say
I attacked Doug Peterson, but I was. Did I did?
And you know what, I would like to sit here
like an honest man and tell you, Bucky, as it
stands right now, I was wrong, and Doug Peterson made

(02:01:46):
the right decision to play for the tie as it
stands right now, because the Philadelphia Eagles, and and I'm
assuming I've got this correct, because who the hell knows
without the NFC East works because it's a diaper fire
and it asthma, yeah for a long time, and asthmen,
let's just be honest about it. The Philadelphia Eagles, at
one two and one are in first place in the

(02:02:08):
NFC East. So yes, I should apologize for being overly
critical of Doug Peterson, although I don't. I look, I
don't know how it played in Philadelphia. Adam Kaplan, who
joins us from Philadelphia every single Saturday. He talked about
it last week. But I wonder now that we see
how this thing is all shaking out after the fourth

(02:02:30):
fourth of the season is finished. At the quarter pole,
Phillies in first place in the NFC East. So there's that.
I mean, I don't think there're any good, but at
least they're not, you know, tied for first or in
second place. It could always be worse in the NFC East,
could definitely be worse for Yeah, So I would like
to apologize. So you calling out the people at critics

(02:02:51):
were critical of Doug Peterson, I would like to apologize
in their behalf. Now I'm wondering if you're going to apologize.
You and Rob park Ger have had this ongoing beef
to where I think it's out of love. But Rob
Parker is the first one to let you know when
he gets something right. Nobody celebrates getting something right like

(02:03:13):
Rob Parker. I mean, oh my god, and it's it's
obnoxious when he gets something right. And he's been telling
you that Aaron Rodgers wasn't finished, that Aaron Rodgers wasn't
on the decline, that Aaron Rodgers wasn't finished, And here
we are, Bucky Aaron Rodgers looks really, really good. You

(02:03:34):
wrote about it on NFL dot com. You've you've been
as critical of anybody when it comes to Aaron Rodgers
and his play over the past couple of years. What
have you seen from the Packers quarterback thus far? He's
playing at m VP level. He's playing, He's playing great,
he is settled in he um. Look, he's playing as
well as he's played since if you look at the numbers,

(02:03:57):
the numbers that he has right now, he's exceeding us
have any present completion rate, zero touchdown, the interception ratio
passer rating, I want to say, is one twenty two.
When you go back and look at twenty eleven, it
was um significantly, not significantly, but slightly higher than that
m v P season that he had. And if you
look at what he's been able to do from year

(02:04:18):
to year, last year he was at the sixty two
percent mark. When it comes to a completion rate, he
is now up to seventy and a lot of it
has been due to Matt Lafleur's system taking some of
the pressure off of him. And since we're in the
business of issuing apologies, I think maybe a lot of
people should probably apologize to the Packers front office for

(02:04:41):
those remarks that were uttered shortly after the draft when
they didn't get a ride receiver and they haven't gotten
wide receivers in the past in the first round. It
looks like the playmakers that they have around him right
now are doing pretty well and not a first rounder
amongst the bunch. And part of his due to the system.
This system, which is an extension of the Kyle Shanahan's system,

(02:05:03):
really elevates quarterbacks. And we've seen average guys Jerry Golf,
Kirk Cousins um become stars in this system. So now
you get a very talented player and you put him
in a system that creates these easy opportunities. You're seeing
Aaron Rodgers look like the m v P at an
advanced age. A lot of people will get caught up

(02:05:23):
in the numbers and the qb rs, and he did
this and at first I didn't even know what the
hell like QBR isn't can anybody actually explain what a
QBR is. It's that we get caught up in these
numbers and passer ratings and all this stuff when it
comes to quarterbacks. If you just watch and you look
at the Packers offense from a year ago and the
Packers offense this year. A year ago, it felt like

(02:05:45):
that was an offense who was winning with Aaron Rodgers.
Now it feels like it's an offense who wins because
of Aaron Rodgers. And it's and it's a big difference.
I just thought they're running game was really the star
of the offensive year go, and now it feels like
it's more balanced and they feel like they're much more
dangerous this season. Yeah, I think they are very um

(02:06:07):
much improved team. And I know it's hard to do
that when you're thirteen and three, but when I look
at this team, the way they're mixing in more play
action passes, they're utilizing misdirection and deception, they're really going
all the way back to what we talked about twelve
when Mike McCartney was in his Hey they calling their
their plays. They threw a lot of play extra passes.
Jordy Nelson would get deep down the field. They had

(02:06:28):
an assortment of wide receivers that would make plays. Aaron
Rodgers is back to being able to do that, and
so now that he appears to have more confidence in
the play caller. He is trusting the system. We're beginning
to see this system and this team light up score boards.
They're averaging thirty eight points a game right now. That
would be uh an offensive scoring record and the modern

(02:06:50):
Super Bowl era um and so everything is working for them. Now.
We'll see when they play maybe some tougher competition, but
right now everything is clicking. There on a bye week
this week, but when they come back, we'll get a
chance to see it. Who are your top three? If
you had to put a top three m v P
list together, who would it be right now? Top three
in the league. Top three? So we had to have
Russell Wilson correct, We have to have Josh Allen correct,

(02:07:13):
and then I think we could put Aaron Rodgers in
that conversation. Totally agree. And and the reason why I
brought that up was because Josh Allen, who's like I loved,
I've always loved Josh. You don't don't don't sit here
and say that we were here on a Saturday during
the play. Okay, and it was a wild ride, but
I'm not saying it wasn't a fun ride. I mean
it was, like, let me tell you something, some of
the decision making. In the second half of that game,

(02:07:35):
Josh Allen was dealing and then all of a sudden
we got into the second half and you and I
were looking at each other, going, what's going on here?
Like I thought there was I thought there were a circus.
I thought he was on a unicycle, there was circus music,
there was I had no idea what was happening. And
so but Josh Allen, man, he's just gotten better and better.

(02:07:55):
And he really you've seen somebody who came in that
was a totally, totally raw He could throw the ball
a mile, but he wasn't the most accurate. He was
a great athlete, and he just seems like he's gotten
better and better. And I actually think it's a blessing
in disguise for the NFL, because you being drafted by
the Bills, you know that there's a difference between the
type of notoriety and attention you get as a member

(02:08:18):
of the Buffalo Bills and elsewhere in the NFL. And
I've loved watching Bills games because I think their defense
is awesome. Um, I love the atmosphere there in Buffalo.
It reminds me of nine nineties football. It just feels
old school when you see Bills games, especially when the
weather turns and it gets cold. And so the fact
that that game against Tennessee is now going to be played,

(02:08:38):
presumably on a Tuesday, center stage with everybody watching. If
there's no Game seven of the NFL, you're gonna get
Josh Allen on center stage. And you talked about it
a NFL dot Com how Buffalo may have actually made
the best move of the entire offseason to help Josh Allen.
Stefan Dix has been a monster. He has been an

(02:08:59):
absolute monson. I don't know if you've got enough credit
for how talented and how good he was with the
Minnesota Vikings, but we're seeing it now and what the
Buffalo Bills have done and Brandon being Joe Shame, Brian Gain,
all those guys, Late Dawson, Oh my gods. They have
really put together a nice squad around him. So and
getting Stefan Diggs, what they were able to do is
give him a legitimate route runner, a veteran player who

(02:09:20):
knows how to play to make the game easy for him.
Stefan dis is absolutely torching people on these vertical routes,
goals and deep crosses and they're just laying those layups
to him over and over and over again. But then
you have John Brown who's another vertical playmaker. You have
Cole Beasley in the slot. The running game is working out,
and then defensively, they're just say, rock solid defense. And

(02:09:42):
so you're right, on Tuesday night, people will get a
chance to see Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills and
they're going to be surprised at how good Bills Mafia is. Yeah,
it's they've been really good. And and Sean McDermott, I
think he got picked up for an extension not long ago,
and that's one of the they're one of the better
run organizations in football right now, just from the standpoint

(02:10:04):
that they've got actual stability. Look, they went since the
Music City Miracle. They didn't make the playoffs up until
a couple of years ago. And and they were actually
in that game, if not for really bad quarterback play
from you know, more so Nathan Peterman at the end,
but also Tyrod Taylor, that Jacksonville team that had New
England on the ropes. Buffalo was in that game. They

(02:10:25):
were in that game in Jacksonville, and that was a
grind for Jacksonville to get rid of them. So to
go from no playoff appearance for a couple of decades
seemingly to two and three years in the NFL when
consistency is so difficult to do and you're in the
same division as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. That's a
well run football team. Man, that's a well run organization.

(02:10:47):
I know there's a lot of a lot of Carolina
to it, but they feel like they're on the up
and up and coming, and they feel like they're on
the rise in Buffalo. And the fact they're going to
get a standalone stage on Tuesday, I think it's awesome
for them and awesome for the league is awesome for
that and jonas a lot of what you want to
see when you're looking at teams. You want to see
if the team takes on the personality of their coach.

(02:11:08):
Sean McDermott is a hard, no grizzle, blue collar guy.
He's a guy who was a walk on player at
William and Mary. He was a guy who has a
wrestling background. And so when you look at this Buffalo
Bills team, nothing has been handed to them. They've earned
everything they play in that blue collar fashion and because
of that, I think they really embody Western New York.

(02:11:28):
Haven't been up there for a couple of years playing
up there. Man, this team, this team is a perfect
fit for that community, and I think we are beginning
to appreciate how they go about doing their business. And oh,
by the way, Josh Allen is playing really well and
he's exceeded a lot of our expectations when he was
drafted coming out of Wyoming. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas
Knoxis is Fox Sports Radio. You can hang out with

(02:11:49):
us as always on the I Heart Radio app. Coming
up next, we're going to find out whether or not
everything is calmed down for one team regarding their franchise quarterback,
The brutal truth. That's coming up next here Jonas Knocks
Bucky Brooks right here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio. Coming up

(02:12:12):
here in about ten minutes from now here on fs
are we will have the scraps things in the world
of sports we have not had a chance to get to.
That's coming up here in ten minutes from now. Right now, though,
when you hear this music, you know, it can only
mean one thing. The disco ball is dropped, the drinks
are flowing, and the glow sticks are everywhere, ladies and gentlemen.

(02:12:37):
He is Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radios, NFL Insider, Sirius
x M, NFL Radio always kind of enough to hang
out with us here every single Saturday. Here on FS
are Adam, Jonas and Bucky. What's happening, guys, Good to
talk to you. And you know, I listened to about
the last half an hour and I caught your discussion
about and Rogers. So come talking to other teams about

(02:12:58):
last season with the Packers. The the overriding belief was
this that Matt Lafleur is trying to figure it out
as a play caller. He did not have a good
year call and play as they thought that that the
team on our chief offensively, It was not really due
to Rogers. It was more due to the play calling.
And you see how aggressive this season, how aggressive he is.

(02:13:18):
And it's not that they have any better talent. Fact,
Tavanti Adams has been hurt the last two games. It's
just that there were more aggressive Robertsonians, a kid that
out of in Indiana State, who was a quarterback and
UH wide receiver. I never played ted end before. The
Packers have made him to a tight end. He's been
a big story for them. But they have just been very,

(02:13:39):
very aggressive, and I think la Flour has kind of
figured it out offensively. That's been the big difference. You know, Adams,
It's funny that you you brought that up because Matt
floor is only called plays for This will be his
third season one you in Tennessee, the second than the
first year in Green Bay. Then this year. Um, I
just find it interesting, like the connectivity that they here

(02:14:00):
to have between Aaron Rodgers and Matt Lafleur. You know,
there was the conversation about the rub between them, but
it appears that the Jordan Love deal may have brought
them together because very early after the draft, mad la
Fleur kind of stood up for his God, do you
believe there's anything to that, Yeah, there's but no that
the rift was just they weren't always always on the

(02:14:20):
same page with the play calling. Last season, that's kind
of the world that I had gotten, and you see
this season they're totally in sank Rogers sees what they're
doing here. Uh, they they definitely have a run game
with Aaron Jones and Jamal Williams and even when they
get Dylan involved, their second and pick out of Boston College.
But they've got it going on. The defense is good
enough that this is that they're a little better. They're

(02:14:41):
better than I expect him to be. I was very
disappointed with the floor last season in terms of play
calling based on the people I spoke with. But he
figured out and I'll be honest with you and Tennessee,
he did not do a very good job. It's a
play caller for one season, though he was heavily criticized
around the league. So, uh, he's got it going on here,
and they've done a variety of different things here. I
think that that's the thing that they've really opened it

(02:15:01):
up and they've been way way more aggressive throwing the
ball down field. Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider,
Sirius x M NFL Radio joining us here on Fox
Sports Radio, Jonas Knox, Bucky Brooks that you here on
FS are so Adam. Look, we've got to ask this
question every single week because it is a major story
in the NFL, and it's the situation in Philadelphia, a

(02:15:22):
team you're close with, you're in the area, you know
the Eagles as well as anybody. They get a big
win on Sunday night at the forty Niners, and it
actually reminded me a year ago the Philadelphia Eagles were
struggling early in the season and they were on the
road on a short week on a Thursday night at
Green Bay and they got it out of win and

(02:15:43):
it just felt like there was still some championship pedigree
with that team. That's kind of the same feeling I got,
although it's you know, not as not like they were
in Lambeau against Aaron Rodgers and they were against a
backup quarterback. But it felt like that was a gut
check type game. So what has been the reaction to
the Eagles since that win? In Carson Wentz's performance, Yeah,

(02:16:05):
it's funny. The fans here in Philly, they're they're already
unload and and and and it was almost apathy. It
almost said in almost in if they would have lost
that game, because remember the way previous they tied the Bengals,
which was just at home. I mean, you can't have
that happen against a team like the Bengals. But what
happened was with this game is that they played on
the road. It's look, anytime you win in the National

(02:16:27):
Football League is a good thing. And then you went
on the road on a Sunday night. You know, you
went in at the Niners, a team that's really beat
up on both sides of football, and they didn't obviously
they didn't have Jimmy Garoppolo and that that was part
of it. But that was a good win for them.
But this division is so bad. And as you were
saying before I got got on here, Jonah, say, you're
technically in first place. I mean, it's ridiculous, but they

(02:16:47):
are because of that tie. That's the funny thing is
we criticized Peterson for not going for it, but uh
he actually you know that that actually might be the
right call. But overall, right now, the fans are feeling
a little bit better about it. It's funny they're giving
me the business this week because I said they're going
to get blow it out at at Pittsburgh and oh, well,
you know, the Steelers are one in ten in the

(02:17:08):
last eleven against winning teams. But those same people they
totally forgot that Ben Roethlisberg only played three games last season,
and we remember all the backup quarterbacks of the struggles
at the Steelers had, so those numbers go out the board.
They don't mean anything. So Ben's back. He's healthy. By
the way, I'm totally looked great. Uh. They the Eagles
do not match up well at all against the Steelers.
The Eagle secondary's really really, really beat up at the

(02:17:30):
cornerback position opposite Darry Slay. You know, Adams, You're gonna
have to give me the school. What happened in Washington?
Why is Dwayne hask Is now QB three after being Yeah,
that was the look. He He has not played well
at all. Let's let's face it. He I know, I
have no problem with him getting benched. I mean he
I hate to see someone deserved after four games, but
he does not looked good at all. Uh. The particularly

(02:17:51):
last three games against Philly, he wasn't pressured at all.
But the last three games he has not played well
at all. It's just just my sense. Okay, this is
just my sense. First of all, with the kid who's
gonna start uh for the for Washington this week, Kyle Allen.
Allen was with Scott Turner, the O C in Carolina
and also obviously Ron Rivera, Ron Rivera's personal control, he

(02:18:13):
traded for him. As a matter of fact, what he
had said in the spring, Ron said that, look, if
this it's a situation where we don't have any practices
in training camp and we we don't have a lot
of time to get these guys in the field, we
might start Kyle for a week one because Haskins has
to learn our our scheme which is different from the
one that he learned before under j Gruden, which was
more West Coast base. And now you you know, you

(02:18:35):
fast forward this. Alex Smith is a guy now, he's healthy, okay,
who's won a lot of games, He's been in the
playoffs before. Kyle Allen is not gonna be the long
term starter here. Alex Smith is going to take over
the job at some point. That's just me speaking, that's
my opinion. They're not telling me this, but I know
the reality is once Smith has shown that he's healthy
and he is now and if if they continue to lose,

(02:18:57):
it's remember they're paying him that they're paying in Alex
Smiths contract. They decided to pay him well over ten
million this season to be a backup quarterback, So you
might as well take a look at him and see
what we can do. Because the starter for this football
team is not right now on the roster. That's kind
of the way they look at it. So if you're
Ron Rivera who inherited this roster and you'll be looking

(02:19:17):
for a quarterback next season, you ms will start evaluating
these guys. But one more thing I do want to add.
I thought this is fascinating. Ron Rivera was asked, hey, listen,
if there was if this was a situation, you guys
are totally out of it. What you have You left
Haskins in there, and he said, you know, I might
have done that, but we're looking because this this division
is what it is. Every it's totally off for grabs.
They're just trying to grab wins right now, which is

(02:19:39):
I thought that was really odd and different after four
four weeks that that that was not what I was
expecting to say. Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider
Serious x M NFL joining us here on Fox Sports Radio.
Jonas Stocks Pucky Brooks that you here on FS are
um the Cam Newton situation with New England. They the
Patriots get a little bit of a break because that
game against Denver moves to Monday, and if I understand

(02:20:03):
this correctly, can't there's a possibility Cam Newton can play
even if he doesn't have a negative test. Can you
explain that a little bit better just based on when
his what his first positive test was all because he's
asymptomatic for yeah, ten days have to pass. And then
what happens is if the ten days pass and he's asymptomatic,

(02:20:24):
he's got to through go through a medical evaluation by
more than one physician and then they could decide whether
he would be clear or not. But here's the problem
with that. If you're Bill Belichick, you don't start a
quarterback who is not practiced for ten days. That's just
not hurt. It's never happened. You can't do that. So, um,
I would expect Yards. Did him to start, uh this

(02:20:44):
Monday night at home against the visiting Broncos? He yeah,
is he could he technically play? Yes, But you don't
put a quarterback in there who's hasn't practice for ten days.
That that's just not done. You know, you could have
walked throughs by the way the Titans are doing that,
they're going through three as of walk throughs because they're
actually they got rained today, so they're indoors. But uh,

(02:21:05):
they have so many guys who are on the COVID
list that Titans are have. Although they got two they
got two players back today. But it's hard in the
natural football lege. Buck, you know this. If you're asking
quarterback to play without practicing, I mean, how do you
do that? It is very difficult to think about Cam
Newton walking out and playing. The only thing that the

(02:21:25):
quarterback play was so up and down against the Chiefs.
I could understand why where Bill Beligi could be tempted
think about temptation. Um. The Tennessee Titans are under a
lot of scrutiny and a lot of heat from a
lot of teams because it seems like the entire NFL
schedule has had to shift around because of their missteps.
Where are we at with the Titans. I know they

(02:21:46):
were talking about four fits in those things. Is the
legal looking to disciplinary measures for whatever occurred they really
caused the spike in COVID cases? Yeah, what I I
full expect just dealing with the league with various issues
with the Patriots over the years and other teams heavy
finds and and potential lost draft picks. I think I
see that happening. Um, they did get the Titans by

(02:22:09):
the way, they got Isaiah Wilson their first round pick
off of the COVID list today. He's actually been on
it two different times now, so at least they're getting
players back. But Bucky the you could sense of frustration.
Sean McVeigh talked about it. He was actually asked about
other coach has been asked about it on the record.
They're they're not even holding back there there. I don't
want to say anger, but their their disappointment that this

(02:22:32):
is happening, because teams hate when you get an advantage.
This is not a secret that at least fifteen players
practice on their own together over the about over a
week ago. That's not a secret that everybody knows this.
Now it's gotten out in front and that that really
bothers teams, like, how are you gonna do this when
we're not allowed of practice. Remember some of these teams

(02:22:52):
have had some issues one or two players, so they
shut the whole thing down. Well, you're not allow of
practice together if you if you're not in the buildings.
So that's what bothers teams and general manager and so forth.
So no, what boy, when a team gets a competitive advantage,
other teams get I can't even say the words here
that someone gave me the other day, extremely upset that
that's what I would tell you. Extremely I mean, I mean,

(02:23:16):
do you want to say who it was? It said?
Those person direct from another team when he asked me
what I know? And you know, I said, look what's
out there is what you know? What is the truth?
These players practiced on their own and that drives people
crazy when you have a competitive avantage. In fact, the
league league gets called in this kind of stuff. Let
me let me ask you that before we let you go.
This is the last one for me, because I've noticed

(02:23:37):
this and and the forfeiting stuff. I didn't understand. I
don't I don't know where we go from. Oh, let's
just forfeit games and they should be have to. That
doesn't even it doesn't even make sense, don't. I don't
even I never even thought that would be a possibility.
Have you been surprised by some of the panic and
hot taky reaction from NFL media members during this whole time?

(02:24:00):
Because terms of in terms in terms of the punishments
that should be handed down, and why isn't the league
doing this? And why isn't the league And it's almost
like this this damning of the league and coaches who
lower their masks, and if we're testing these guys, why
why is there a hundred thousand dollar fine in a

(02:24:20):
fifteen yard penalty? Why why should we take away games
and four fit games and cost other teams pay for
those games. It just feels like there's certain people in
the media that cover the NFL that are more focused
on the doom and gloom and not the solution. And
I don't nderstand I would I would say this, I
would say this on on that that question. Here's the issue.

(02:24:42):
So the Titans swear that they were there the masks
all the time, right, So, and I've talked to you
guys about this before. It's personnel people tell me it's
virtually impossible to get COVID in their building around the
National Football League because there's cameras everywhere. They're wearing that censor.
If you get within six ft. The only time you
could take your mask off is either at lunch or

(02:25:03):
in your office if no one's in there, If you're
a coach or a personnel person. So how in the
world they get in COVID. They're getting it probably outside
the building. So yeah, to your point, Jonas, they should
not be getting it inside the building, but you can't
say with absolute certainty. Now, remember the Raiders had somebody
legal and their in their locker room for a game

(02:25:24):
that that would that was not supposed to be there.
These are the kind of things that bothered bother the league.
That's kind of stuff, Jonas. That is an issue when
people are not author us to be in in the
locker room who have not been tested. You don't know
who these people are and the Raiders should have known better.
And we'll see what comes out of that one. Was
it Mark Davis in terms of what you mean the

(02:25:46):
guy in the Raider's locker room. No, no, not like
he's the owner. But yeah, I gotta hear you because
he also said I'm not gonna go to any games
unless fans are going to be there. And I don't
know how you would turn down the opportunity to go
to a game in that. But he has to attested though,
but he's he's to testing. He has to get tested.
See there goes my conspiracy theory. Damn it. You had
to ruin it, didn't you? Go? All right? Adam Kaplan,

(02:26:07):
Fox Sports Radio's NFL Insider Sirius x M NFL Radio
always a good follow on Twitter at Kaplan NFL at
Kaplan NFL. Adam, thanks so much for the time, as always,
will do it again next week. Sounds good, guys, Thank you.
Jonah knocks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio. Buck,
you have another potential upset brewing in the s SEC

(02:26:28):
and for that and the latest on that, let's go
to the cash man, David Gascon. Guys, one last time,
I guess this is odd Aubred right now. It's trailing
Arkansas at home is the score, but they do have
the football at the twenty yard line. At Arkansas's twenty
yard line with under a minute to play in regulation.

(02:26:48):
A bunch of other games have actually gone final now.
Kansas State beat t s to you four. Miami and
Clemson are about to get things underway. That game, along
with Alabama, Ole, Miss, Florida State, and number five Notre
Dame are just moments away from kicking off. Iowa State
beat Texas Tech thirty one to fifteen b YU one
today beating the University of Texas Antonio seven to twenty,

(02:27:10):
and Georgia wrapped things up with Tennessee One was the
final upsets from earlier Today, Oklahoma beat twice second ranked
Texas and quadruple overtime l s U falls to Missouri.
They're now one and two this season. Actually both programs
are and number four. Florida got beat by Texas A
and M, who came from behind, scoring seventeen in the
fourth quarter. Was the final Joe respect to you. Hey,

(02:27:32):
am I am I missing something on this Arkansas Auburn game?
Was that not? Was that not a fumble under center?
He tried to clock it and he fumbled the ball
and then and then picked it up. He picked up
and spiked it. Yeah, picked it up. That's not that's
not considered a fumble. He fumbled the ball. Arkansas clearly recovered,
but it's still like a pass, right. He dropped it

(02:27:55):
and then he spiked it. He's just like, what would
you do if you take it from shotgun, take it
from shotgun and you dropped it, you picked it up,
you th way down. It's still a spike, right, Yeah,
Or if you're three downfield and almost a bummer. I
mean the coach Belichick you want to get here on
Fox Sports Radio, Coach her thoughts, it's already been undressed.
We appreciate it. So is that So they're calling that

(02:28:16):
what intentional grounding? Are you kidding me? That's what I'm saying, man,
that that looked like a choppy play, lost of down,
intentional ground So now it's gonna what's gonna be fourth down?
Your opunity? Yeah, So they're going to review it now,
and so now Auburn is going to try and kick
a field. Go. Remember when Arkansas's athletic director, Arkansas's athletic

(02:28:37):
director came out and said that they had the most
the most difficult schedule in the history of college football.
Is very difficult. They could be two and one. They
might be two in one right now too, and one
in the SEC Arkansas, I mean, coach doesn't have the
first year coach coach Chaid. Chad Morris is Oh, Chad

(02:28:58):
Morris is OC down ahab flounder. Yeah, I mean, they
haven't been this good since Matt Jones before he got
to the NFL and started started smelling powdered donuts for
a living head coach from Georgia. All right, so we
will we will keep keep you updated on this game

(02:29:21):
depending on how this goes between Auburn and Arkansas. They're
trying to figure out what happened there in that game
and whether or not. Um. And by the way, Felipe A.
Franks is still in college football. Good for him. Man,
he's thirty two years old, but good for him. No,
I'm just saying, like you know, but him and bow

(02:29:41):
Knicks are in still in college football combine age of
Felipe A. Franks sophomore. All right, but bow Knicks feels
like he's been in college football for ten years because
of his daddy. Okay, all right? Um are they are
they ruling that this is Arkansas ball? This is crazy? Okay,

(02:30:02):
we'll keep you up to date on that. UM, Dave,
do you want to should we keep with this or
should we go to should we go to the scraps
next segment? Or how do you want to do this?
You're you're the chief. You don't you know why they're
reviewing this because it almost looks like the quarterback through
it behind him, which would be a lateral that would
be a fumble and a clear recovery by Arkansas. Yeah,
that's exactly it. That seems that seems like, oh, that's

(02:30:24):
gonna be a terrible gas that's good. Oh my god,
I mean, how well do you think they're gonna they'll
handle this loss? This will be worse than when that
guy poison their tree. I'm sorry, I thought sorry about that.
I thought my mic was off. Sorry, guys, shots at
everyone else, Rob Williams, Harvey, Harvey up take his name,

(02:30:48):
Harvey uptake. But if if it's exactly what you said initially,
that should be a lateral, that should be a backwards
and a clear recovery by Arkansas. Really that's ackwards passed. Yeah,
I mean this is I would tell the national audience
to watch, but we don't. Just to give you a

(02:31:08):
little coaching point, Operates primarily had the shotgun. That's why
you don't ask your quarterback to go up in the center. Hey,
when Trabisky went to his first camp with the Bears,
he fumbled like every other snap because all he did,
all he did was working the shotgun. Yeah is it?
It becomes tough on you. And so now they're making
the announcement here Arkansas and Auburn. Uh, Arkansas with a

(02:31:29):
one point lead, seven loss of down. So what what
was the official call? So ten yard penalty and a
loss of down. It's going to push ground intentional grounding
on Auburn because he fumbled the center exchange trying to
clock it at the end. So now we've got twenty
eight seconds left on the clock. Arkansas has got a

(02:31:54):
one point lead, and so now this is going to
knock Auburn back. It's gonna make the kick that much
more difficult. By the way, what's the kick? Now? Where
are they who's in charge of the turf there in Auburn?
My god, So here comes the potential go ahead kick

(02:32:15):
for Auburn to try and take the lead. Got it
right down to pipe, he got it. So Arkansas is
going to get the ball on a kickoff seven seconds left.
Auburn with a lead with seven seconds left, jam man,
Arkansas got jammed. That sucks. Feel bad for Arkansas. They
were they were just never the same after Peyton Hellas left.

(02:32:38):
I've never been the same since. Houston Nutt careful, all right,
Jonahs Ducks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
we're gonna have the scraps things in the world of
sports we have not had a chance to get to.
That is yours coming up next. Oh Man, probably should

(02:33:01):
have double checked that intro. Huh hello, alright, not really,
probably dump that alright. Uh, Bucky Brooks, Jonas knocks here
on Fox Sports Radio. Uh coming up here in a
little over ten minutes from now here on fs ARE.
It'll be Brian No and E from salam As. They

(02:33:22):
will take you throughout the remainder of this Miami Clemson game,
unless it goes along at its college football so probably will.
And just some crazy stuff happening. Old miss already up
on Alabama seven and nothing on a jump pass. And
so so Bucky Brooks, I get ready because if Miami
wins this game, we're going to be inundated by people

(02:33:43):
desperate to have Miami back on the college football scene. Desperate.
And you know, because you're a North Carolina tar heel
about this love for Miami. And that's because a bunch
of us like there's are when Miami was the cool
thing to watch. It was cool to watch the Hurricanes.

(02:34:04):
When the Hurricanes were good. Uh, they were the villains,
and everybody loves watching the villain. Either you identify with
the villain or you want to see the villain go down?
And so, but how many championships did you win? Five
national titles? I mean everyone wants to see him. I mean, listen,
there was a stretch there where I used to wet
the bed every night. But guess what things change? So
I'm sorry, Well it was like twenty it was, I

(02:34:27):
mean two months ago. It's been a while, Bruce Greatkowski says, people,
that is true, Robert, Robert Gallery turns into a NASCAR
driver and just soils himself on the sidelines. That is
it was a great story from h from Bruce Gradkowski.
All right, so uh with that being said, it is
time for a little something we do on the show

(02:34:48):
called this How could you not get to? These stories
are the scraps? And for that we turn it over
to Commander David Gascon where the l I P. Day
from the Los Angeles is me. Guys, we go from
I don't know nothing aw you doing? How would you?

(02:35:11):
How would you rate today's shows coming up coming up?
On a scale like what's the scale one to five?
How about this we'll put it on a scale of B,
A C so zero point zero to zero point zero
eight and zero point zero eight means drunk. I'll put
it at a zero point zero six. What reckless? Al Right? Yeah,

(02:35:35):
stop bad? How would you know Dave? You know David
a few anyways? Right, Guys? In the NBA Gold State Warriors,
assistant coach Mike Brown, according to The New York Times,
made a strong impression during his interview for the Los
Angeles Clippers head coaching vacancy. He's, among others, Jeff Van Gundi,

(02:35:55):
Darvin Ham, the assistant coach Milwaukee Bucks, and Toronto Lou
all So of the formerly of the Clinton Cavaliers. So
you see anyone taking the spot worthwhile? Um, I'm trying, like,
who would be the most interesting higher for the Clippers?
I mean something that would probably Why not Jason Jason? Yeah,
Jason Kidd, who yawns more often than Lebron travels during

(02:36:20):
a game on the on the bench. There. You know
you can't get good Oh what do you mean by that?
Bucky can't get coffee? Okay, what do you mean by that?
You can't get good coffee? That's why Jimmy Butler started
Big Face Coffee. By the way, I believe, I believe,

(02:36:41):
I believe Clemson just scored. They are going to sand
blast Miami. So so good news for Bucky. Good news
for Bucky whose North Carolina Tario's are going to jump
up into uh most likely the top six, potentially the
top five. How about that, Bucky? I know? Exciting right? Yeah, guys,
we go from the NBA to the National Football but
off the gridiron. How about this story. NFL Networks Ian

(02:37:04):
Rappaport has been suspended. Uh he was posting uh something
online through another company. It was a manscaping post that
he posted on this Twitter account. He apologized on social
media as for a company called manscape, and they apparently
suspended him for a few days. I don't get it.

(02:37:24):
So because he posted something for a crop shaver that
deserves a two week suspension? Really, yeah, I have no comment.
I don't know. I don't need to talk about it,
bucket don't. I don't. I don't know anything about it.
I just thought I come to light. I don't know,
I don't. That seems that seems a bit harsh, But hey,

(02:37:47):
what the hell do I know? Guys? I forgot to
mention Josh had brought it up with the Clemson game
right now. Um, they mentioned on the broadcast before opening kickoff.
Nineteen thousand fans in attendance tonight, that includes the band
and attendance. How many people were at text saying M
at Kyle Kyle Field? It's Kyle Field rightly? Four thousand
seven or nine? God, has seemed like a lot more

(02:38:07):
than that. That's how small some of the crowds are
in these morning events. That that seems like a lot
of people. But it looks it looked full texts saying
M it is? Is it Kyle Field? House? Correct? Or?
Am I my crossing the stream? Yeah? Kyle Field? Jesus,
what was I thinking? In the NFL, levy on bell

(02:38:27):
has been activated by the New York Jets. All right,
one of the great signings in recent NFL history. I
don't know why they're doing it though, but the Denver
Broncos say that Drew lock is listened as questionable and
sad but pleasantly surprised. No offense is out Week five
against the page Week five? Where did spine spine cane?

(02:38:53):
Why didn't they put in an I were a minute? Yeah,
it's a highlight reel. It's only the highlights. It only back.
It's like those people on social media you always post
happy pictures, but they're really depressed and you know that
they are. It's like the idle a minute. Their stories,
their stories out there that deserve to be talked about,
but he only puts the highlights in important stories. I agree.

(02:39:14):
He posts selfies with the mask. Hey,
