Speaker 1 (00:01):

right square in the nuts? Oh god, what was that
to finish a football game? Coming up here in just
a couple of moments, Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio. You

So let's address the nine thousand pound we'll call it.
(00:44):
Do we want to call it gold? Yeah, we'll call
it gold in honor of Notre Dame, the nine hundred
pound gold elephant in the room. As you heard in
the open, No Brady Quinn. No Brady Quinn on this show,
which means it's gonna be a bummer for a lot
of you out there. Brady Quinn because of all the
chaos in the Pack twelve, because of the covering of
(01:05):
several different games and stuff being moved around. He was
on duty for the u c L a Cal game
on Sunday morning. So thus he is in a plane
trying to get back home. And so maybe at some
point later on in the show we will catch up
with our dear friend Brady Quinn. But as it stands
right now, we plan on flying solo here for the
(01:25):
next three hours on Fox Sports Radio. So there it is,
all right. I could come out here and make up
a lie about where he is and make up, you know,
all sorts of stories like we've done in the past
when people aren't here, but I'm not gonna do it.
Brady Quinn is in a in a plane somewhere, flying back.
He called two games, he did a studio show, very
busy weekend. Hopefully we'll be able to check him with
(01:47):
him later on. If not, tough balls, I don't know
to tell you. All right, you're stuck with me for
the next three hours. Let's get into whatever the hell
that was that just concluded in Arizona short time ago.
The hell was that? Man? First of all, condolences to
Buffalo Bills fans. That is a steel toe boot right
(02:07):
to the groin. You thought you had that in the
bag you were rolling. You have righted the wrongs you're
looking at, oh Man, forget the Music City miracle. We
can kind of cleanse ourselves from all of that. And
then Kyler Murray finds DeAndre Hopkins in the end zone
on a Hail Mary, or is Mike Ko? And I'll
give him credit for it right now because I just
(02:29):
heard Mike Terriko say this a few minutes ago, a
Hail Murray. And here's outsounded courtesy of the Cardinals Radio Network.
Flushed out, rolling left in trouble, slips a tackle, gotta
launch it. He does left side into the end zone
jump ball and it is is it called? Is it cost? Oh?
My goodness, it fun. DeAndre Hopkins caught it. He caught
(02:51):
it for a tockdown with one second lap. I can't
believe them. You've got to be joking me. Hopkins ridges up,
three defenders around him, he pulls it in and the
card goes late at thirty through the thirty with a
second lap. Here's the thing. Everybody is gonna point to
DeAndre Hopkins making the play, and it's a phenomenal play.
(03:13):
He went up, he high pointed the ball. There were
three or four defenders around him. Those defensive backs are
gonna have nightmares about that play. When DeAndre Hopkins, if
he goes into the Hall of Fame, that's gonna be
one of the things they show on his highlight reel.
He's gonna get a lot of love for this, and
rightfully so, especially when you consider Stefon Diggs caught what
we thought was the go ahead touchdown on Patrick Peterson.
(03:35):
Great throw, great catch, prior drive. And you looked at
it and said, these were the two big wide receiver
trades in the off season, and they go mano imano
like it's bird versus Dominique in the playoffs years ago,
and you look at it, you go, credit credit to
DeAndre Hopkins. Here's the guy that deserves the credit. It's
Kyler Murray. Kyler murray scrambling ability and his ability to
(04:01):
be able to throw the ball that deep in that
moment after running around trying to avoid getting sacked and
keeping the play and the game and who knows, maybe
the season alive for the Arizona Cardinals. That's why that
play happened. And this is the point. And I think
people forget this when they look at what do you
consider success in the NFL? And and I always try
(04:23):
I always try and tell people this, super Bowls aren't guaranteed. Okay,
you need a lot of things to go your way
in order to win a super Bowl. There's been a
lot of quarterbacks that have won Super Bowls and a
lot of quarterbacks who happened who were much better players.
Jeff hoss Stetler has a Super Bowl ring. Dan Marino
does not Ask yourself who had more fun watching football
(04:47):
during that time their entire times during their career Jeff
hoss Stetler fans or Dan Marino fans, me, come on,
it's it's not even close. And so when I say this,
it's to point out guys like Kyler Murray, guys like
Lamar Jackson, they need a lot of things to go
(05:07):
their way to win a Super Bowl. If you were
to bet on any quarterback coming into the NFL and
you were to say yes or no, are they gonna
wint a Super Bowl? The heavy favorite would be no
because of how difficult it is, because of all the
things that need to go your way. So if you've
got the only other option that you consider successful was well,
(05:27):
you know, was he a lot of fun to watch?
Did it keep us in games? Then Kyler Murray and
Lamar Jackson, their stars and those fan bases are gonna
be thrilled. If you're an Arizona Cardinals fan right now,
you do understand that more than likely you're not going
to win a super Bowl during the Kyler Murray era
in Arizona. It's more than likely not gonna happen because
(05:51):
of how difficult it is. It's why nobody is a
heavy favorite to win a super Bowl every year. It's
why it's so rare when you go to bet on
the Super Bowl odds before the season, is anybody favored
to do it? Or they all underdogs, some a little
more than others. It's because of how difficult it is.
(06:11):
And so if Lamar Jackson never wins a super Bowl,
if Kyler Murray never wins a super Bowl, if some
of these young quarterbacks who are keeping plays alive and
really really exciting, Josh Allen, if they never win a
Super Bowl, are you gonna look back on their career
and you're gonna say, you know what, they didn't win
a super Bowl. I don't think that really worked all
that well. Hell no, Kyler Murray is getting a contract
(06:33):
in Arizona. Josh Allen's getting one, and so is Lamar
Jackson and those guys might not ever win a ring,
but that play, right there is exactly why you've got
to be excited about what you have. It's not always
about super Bowls. You want to be successful. You want
to be winning games, or at least in the conversation
for as long as possible. I'll ask you another question
(06:58):
next five years, who would you'd rather be a fan of,
Kyler Murray or Carson Wentz? Seriously, Carson Wentz there grading
out on Pro Football Focus. Carson Wentz stinks at times,
He's not good, got a super Bowl ring, was in
(07:19):
the m v P conversation, is talked about as this
guy who's one of these elite level quarterbacks. And this
isn't just kicking him whiley down because he's having a
bad year and the Eagles are having a rough year.
But we sometimes confuse what success is, what a good
career is because we put such a premium on championships.
(07:41):
You gotta win a super Bowl. Man. I'll tell you
right now, if you gave me the option of Carson
Wentz is ten years in the NFL or Kyler Murray's
as it stands right now, I'm gonna take Kyler Murray's.
And I say that knowing Carson Wentz has got a
super Bowl ring. I get it, he didn't play in it,
he didn't play in any of the postseason. I get
(08:01):
all that. But he's got a super Bowl ring and
they were a damn good team. Carson Wentz has got
a super Bowl ring. Kyler Murray probably won't. Lamar Jackson
probably won't end up with a super Bowl ring. It's
just a reality. It's really difficult to do. It's tough
to do. But those guys make games watchable. Those guys
make plays like that happen because of their style of play.
(08:24):
Why do you think Matt Ryan took the Atlanta Falcons
to a super Bowl. Matt Ryan has had a better
NFL career than Michael Vick, and it's not close. Matt
Ryan was getting booed early in his career because those
fans loved Mike Vick and they didn't sniff nearly the
success of what they've done with Matt Ryan. With Mike Vick,
(08:48):
and they loved him because there was something about his
style of play man. It was exciting. Plays were always alive.
They would scramble, get out in the open and you
had no idea what was gonna happen up in great
total chaos. That play at the end of that game
is exactly why if they never go to the dance,
if they never win at all, Kyler Murray's going to
(09:09):
have a successful NFL career. He makes stuff like that exciting.
He makes games and plays it shouldn't be possible. Possible.
It's why I always defended Andy Dalton in Cincinnati. I
always defended him because everybody pointed to Andy Dalton, they said,
oh my god, you have but he never won a
playoff game. Bro in the division with the UH Steelers
(09:31):
and the Ravens, he had them in the playoffs, what
five years in a row, five out of six years,
some crazy number like that. I would much rather be
rooting for a team that is getting to the postseason
every single year, and maybe they don't have enough to
take it over the top. Maybe Andy Dalton is not
a quarterback that can win you a Super Bowl, but
you know what, they're at least getting you there. Two
(09:52):
different styles of play, same result. Lamar Jackson's never won
a playoff game. There's not a general man, you're in
the NFL right now that doesn't think Lamar Jackson was
the best quarterback coming out of that draft class. The
only guy even close to being in a discussion is
Josh Allen. The only guy close to being in the
discussion is Josh Allen. And those guys are probably never
(10:16):
going to win at all. That We look at success
and we say, unless you've won a championship, sorry, pal,
your your career's inferior. I don't believe it. I don't
buy it for a second. That play at the end
of that game is exactly why Arizona Cardinal football is
going to be exciting for the next X amount of years.
It may not be the most winning football. They may
(10:38):
not win twelve thirteen games every year and win a
couple of Super Bowls, but every single game you turn
them on and you're gonna look back at the end
of Kyler Murray's career and go, you know what, that
guy was damn fun to watch. That guy was really
fun to watch. And as a fan, as somebody who
watches the NFL, as somebody who looks at the NFL
(10:59):
and see's it and covers the league, I'm okay with that.
I can look back and say, hey, that was a
great career. I'm not gonna sit here and punish a
guy because he doesn't have ultimate success in the postseason.
Phenomenal ending in that game. And again, thoughts and prayers
do Buffalo Bills fans that is. That's one of those
You don't watch sports or listen to sports for about
(11:20):
twenty four hours because the reminder is gut wrenching. They
were throwing themselves through tables before the game. I have
no idea what Buffalo is like now. I have no
clue what's gonna happen in Buffalo tonight. Jonas Knox, Fox
Sports Radio. Again, No Brady Quinn. He is in a
plane somewhere flying back from the West coast. He did
(11:40):
the u c l a Cal game earlier. So you've
got me for the next three hours here on Fox
Sports Radio. Coming up next though, we are going to
see what the latest version of somebody who all of
a sudden is really really happy about a poor season
thus far in the NFL. We're gonna to get the
latest version of what that's gonna look like, and it's
(12:02):
happening in mirror moments. We'll get to that next year.
On Fox Sports Radio, Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio. That's right,
it's just me, no Brady Quinn. Brady Quinn on a
flight back from Los Angeles. Uh so, if you're tuning
into here the Dulcit, I think that's the proper term.
Whatever the tones of Brady Quinn. Uh too bad, he
(12:25):
is not here. Maybe we'll catch up with him later
on here in the program, but but he is not
here as of right now. Coming up in we'll call
it a little over ten minutes from now here on
Fox Sports Radio. Um, something happened in the NFL that
was a little bit of a surprise because I thought
for sure, I thought for sure that one team had
(12:46):
found their quarterback of the future. So I'm just a
little little little surprised at at what happened earlier. We
will dive into that coming up ten minutes from now
on Fox Sports Radio. We are moments away from kickoff
on Sunday Night Football between the Ravens and the Patriots.
And normally this is a classic game. A classic game
(13:07):
if you've watched enough of the NFL of the past
several years, you know Ravens Patriots usually means a big
time game. Maybe in the postseason they've met several times,
and this is a really really good history of good football.
A little bit different story this year. All right, Baltimore
still a good football team, Baltimore still winning games, Baltimore
(13:27):
still having some success. But you got a Ravens team
which is not exactly the same team they were a
year ago. A year ago, the Baltimore Ravens were a
run it down your throat, you don't have an answer.
We're gonna dance, we're gonna celebrate, We're gonna make you mad,
and then we're gonna get to the postseason. And Tennessee
is gonna do what we did to teams in reverse
to us. That is what Baltimore was a year ago.
(13:49):
This year they do look flawed. You've got Lamar Jackson
having telling people that teams are calling out their plays.
People are looking at that as Lamar Jackson saying that
they're too predictable or has he taken a shot at
their offensive coordinator, Greg Roman. I didn't read into that
at all. I actually think Lamar Jackson was being pretty
critical of himself. It's a guy who there's clearly a
(14:12):
book out on if you make him throw, if you
make him throw to the outside, Lamar Jackson isn't as
successful when this team gets behind in games. They beat Indianapolis,
but other than that, they don't win those type of games.
So there is a narrative out on the Baltimore Ravens
and Lamar Jackson, and no matter what they do this
regular season, people are still going to point to the
(14:33):
fact that Lamar Jackson's two worst games as an NFL
quarterback were in the postseason. The first year against the Chargers,
a game in which at halftime fans in Baltimore were
piste off that they weren't going to Joe Flacco and
they were gonna let Lamar Jackson play. That is how
bad it got. And then a year ago Tennessee all
(14:55):
over Baltimore and that game wasn't close, that got away
from Baltimore early and they never recovered. Tennessee ran all
over him. So this is almost as if Lamar Jackson
and the Ravens are going to go through when a
mini games as possible hopefully win the a f C
North Um there are a couple of games behind Pittsburgh,
who won again earlier today long shot to win that
(15:17):
division as of right now because they've already lost once
to Pittsburgh, but Baltimore is a team looking get a
high playoff seed and start doing some damage in the postseason.
Then you get to the New England Patriots, and to me,
this is the most fascinating team to cover in the
NFL right now, the most fascinating one because Bill Belichick
(15:37):
has done a complete one eight. When Bill Belichick was
winning games and he was having all the success that
he was having, because you can argue Belichick put together
two dynasties. He was at the helm of two different dynasties.
You could argue Bill Belichick was the greatest coach in
(15:58):
the history of the NFL all his first ten years
in New England, and then the second greatest coach or
first greatest, and then you can flop the two in
the second ten years of his career. That's how good
they've been. So you can make a legitimate argument that
Bill Belichick has head two dynasties to Hall of Fame careers,
same as you can do for Tom Brady. Well, now
(16:20):
Tom Brady's gone, he's in Tampa Bay, and the New
England Patriots aren't a good team. So while Belichick was
doing all of that winning through the first decade or
first two decades while he was with the Patriots. He
never was satisfied, never wanted to talk about success, never
wanted to show any emotion, never wanted to get really
(16:40):
worked up or hyped up about anything. It just was
not interested at all. And if you notice what he's done,
twice in the last couple of weeks, talked about how
well you know, I mean, we signed Cam Newton, we
gave Cam Newton a million bucks. I mean it's clear,
you know we didn't have a lot of money. We're strapped,
but you know we were going after super Bowls. It's
just it's the way it goes. Huh okay. Never heard
(17:02):
Belichick say that before. Then this week he gets into
a back and forth with Tom Curran, who covers the
Patriots Patriots and has been doing so for a long time,
and Belichick starts pointing out, I'm not going to apologize
for the twenty years of success. I've seen a lot
of people do a lot worse. He's never talked like that,
He's never acted like that. Belichick has never taken that
(17:25):
type of tone. He's never taken that type of stance.
That's never been his outlook on anything. He's never one
of these guys who counts his cash. He's always focused.
We're onto the next game, We're onto Cincinnati, We're onto Baltimore.
And now he's rehashing, look at it, all the success
he had because he realizes I don't have a good
(17:45):
football team. And it's probably very, very frustrating. So when
people are pointing it out to Bill Belichick and saying, man,
you haven't this hasn't worked in the draft. The draft,
you know, normally you you're you're really successful, but for
whatever reason, in the draft, just haven't. You haven't hit
on these picks. What's going on. His first reaction was,
(18:06):
let me point back to all the things that I've done. Well.
That tells you right away automatically he knows I don't
have a good football team. But this is the perfect
season for Patriot lovers and Patriot haters. This is the
perfect season. You talk about playing to both fields. If
(18:28):
you're a Patriot hater, identify why it is you love
to see the Patriots lose, all right, and you can say, well,
you know, I just don't like him, and I'm a
Jets fan and I'm let's really get to the bottom
of it. Why were you celebrating when they lost in
Tom Brady threw a pick six against the Titans in
the postseason last year. Why were you celebrating? Be honest,
(18:48):
because you've been a dormat for twenty years. The Patriots
have walked all over you for twenty years. So the
people that were making the most noise and are laughing
the hardest at the Patriots demise and having a down
year and losing in the postseason last year against Tennessee,
those are the doormats. They've been walked on by Bill
(19:10):
Belichick and Robert Kraft for twenty years, by Tom Brady
for twenty years, and so there's an impact that's gonna
linger a little bit. So of course people are gonna
take their shots. Of course people are gonna root against
Tom Brady. Rob Parker, a Fox Sports radio has been
(19:31):
rooting against Belichick and Brady for as long as he's
been on the air, and this is the first year
where he could actually gloat and say, hey, I'm right
on both fronts. He threatened to move to Mexico if
the Patriots made a run of the Super Bowl a
couple of years ago, and guess what happened. They want
a Super Bowl. So the louder the voices when you
(19:52):
lose means the more it stung them when you were winning.
The doormats are speaking out out now they're happy about this.
And here's where it works in the opposite. If you're
a Patriots fan, I'd be rooting my ass off for
this team. I'm this this gritty, no flash, run the ball,
(20:16):
reclamation project at quarterback and Cam Newton a million in change,
grind it out, keep it low scoring. This is a
Patriots team. I would be rallying around like this is
a fun team to You may not think it's a
fun team to watch because they don't go up and
down the field and score a ton of points. But
this would make me appreciate everything we had in the
(20:38):
past and want to root for them even more. Why
do you think people were crying when Tiger Woods won
the Masters last year? People were in tears when Tiger
Woods won the Masters last year because you saw him
fall on his ass. You saw him fall on his
ass and be embarrassed and humiliated publicly and on the
golf course for so long that when you find they
(21:00):
got back on top, you said, you know what man
good for? Him. He all of a sudden went from
we don't like the guy to all of a sudden,
we really like him. How'd that happen? Because the moments
like what Bill Belichick is going through right now, I'm
telling you right now, this season is ultimately going to
end up being a good thing for the New England
Patriots because all of a sudden, they're gonna become sympathetic figures.
(21:23):
If you think I'm crazy, ask yourself this. On Sunday
Night Football when they were playing the Seahawks and they
were a yard away from scoring. If you weren't a
Seahawks fan, or if you don't have money on the Seahawks,
how many of you were rooting for Cam Newton to
score from a yard out that night? Everybody was because
(21:45):
they become sympathetic figures. Cam Newton, Belichick, the Patriots, they
got left by Tom Brady. He's in Tampa Bay with
all these different weapons, and like forty nine tight ends
who are all catching passes, and every wide receiver outside
Antonio oh Brown, who's like six nine and taller. Like,
they've become sympathetic figures. So this place to boast Field.
(22:06):
So when you see the Patriots on prime time. Understand
somebody's happy somewhere because the people that were doormats for
twenty years, they're happy to see him fail. And the
people that all of a sudden feel bad for New
England and are rooting for Bill Belichicker saying, you know what,
go out and give him hell. Cam Newton body broken down,
not the same player. That's the team we're rooting for.
(22:27):
Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio. Get me on Twitter at
the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas Knocks as we come
to you live here from the guy Go Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Coming up next. There was something that was
being said about a quarterback in the NFL, and I'm
a little confused because I thought he was the future
and then we got a different answer. Find out who
(22:48):
we're talking about next year on Fox Sports Radio. But
for all the latest from around the world of sports,
ladies and gentlemen, Stone Cold, Steve di Seger no idea
what that means, but we'll move on. It's cool and yeah,
Steven fun. We're early in the Sunday night game at
New England. This is a weather game. Now, granted it's
artificial turf, so it's not gonna get sloppy, but New
(23:09):
England Baltimore underway and scoreless early. Here's the forecast. We've
already had some rain, but come second half, the forecast
is for a nine chance of rain and twenty mile
and our wins. It's just gonna get worse as we
get closer to midnight Eastern time. So for now, it
doesn't look that bad. Patriots on their first drive, scoreless early,
hosting a Baltimore team that is six and two. The
(23:31):
Ravens are, for what it's worth this year, four and
oh on the road they wanted Indie. Last week, Ravens
lost at home to Kansas City and Pittsburgh Steelers won
again thirty six ten over Cincinnati. Ben Roethlisberger with four
touchdown passes. Arizona on the Hail Mary touchdown pass came
back to beat Buffalo thirty. The Bills had led the
game twenty three nine in the third quarter. The game
(23:53):
winner forty three yards to DeAndre Hopkins. He had seven
catches for a hundred twenty seven yards, and yes, Kenyan
Drake played the sixteen carries a hundred yards for the Cardinals.
The Rams beat Seattle in fact, they sacked Russell Wilson
six times, force three turnovers and beat the Seahawks twenty
three sixteen. New Orleans beat What's left of San Francisco
(24:13):
thirteen and the injury department for the Saints. Quarterback Drew
Brees left with a rib injury and the offense was sputtering,
but in a win for New Orleans. Today. Las Vegas
thirty seven twelve over Denver as quarterback Drew locks through
four interceptions. In defeat at Miami one, the Dolphins down
the Chargers to a tongue of voloa, two touchdown passes
a hundred sixty nine yards Tampa Bay one with a
(24:35):
strong second half at Carolina for twenty three. Tom Brady
with four total touchdowns three one yards. Teddy Bridgewater did
leave with knee injury. Teddy Bridgewater, of course, could be
used as a backup these days for the Saints, perhaps,
but no, he's with Carolina. Detroit beat Washington thirty to
twenty seven on a fifty nine yard field goal on
the final play. Green Bay over Jacksonville. Marquez valdiscamp like
(24:59):
at four are receptions for a hundred and forty nine
yards in a score. Cleveland beat Houston ten seven in
a bad weather game. Fact, there was a weather delay
of over a half an hour at the start of
that one. In Ohio, Nick Chubb nineteen carries a hundred
twenty six yards in a score. Kareem Hunt of Cleveland
nineteen carries a hundred four yards and the Giants beat
Philadelphia twenty seven seventeen. Dustin Johnson won the Masters by
(25:22):
five strokes at twenty under par, breaking the Masters record
of eighteen under that had been set by a tiger
Woods and Jordan's speed. Each tiger Wood shot a final
round seventy six, falling to a tie for thirty eight place.
The Lakers will reportedly trade Danny Green to Oklahoma City
for Dennis Shrewder, who will be a free agent next year.
The NBA Draft is this week, and then in a
couple of days it will be the opening of free
(25:44):
agency and negotiations. And as far as college football, yes,
there was a game with Brady Quinn on FS one
this morning from the Rose Bowl. U c l A
a strong first half beat Cal thirty ten. This was
Cal's season opener here on November fift and it trailed
at the half. They didn't exactly move the ball today.
The rankings for the college football Playoff. Keep in mind
(26:04):
were moved back a week, so they start a week
from Tuesday night. I can tell you in the new
AP College Football Poll today, Indiana moved up to number nine.
And this is our big Fox TV Big Neon Eastern
Time kickoff. Brady included this coming weekend. The Hoosiers play
at number three Ohio State this Saturday, and Jonas Knox,
I must mention this other college football item and get
(26:25):
your response. As South Carolina tonight fired football coach Will
must Champ. His team was two and five this year. Now,
pretty much every coach is highly paid in the SEC,
so there are dollars involved. But South Carolina's football history
and this is a program that started before. They were
almost nothing the first seventy five years of existence, and
(26:49):
then in our lifetimes for a couple of decades they
were an independent and never won a bowl game. They
go to the SEC, and they really weren't a regular anything.
I mean even with Lou Holtz winning a few games
until Steve Spurrier about a decade ago, and then you
could count on them for maybe double digit wins, count
on them for maybe making a bowl game and winning
(27:09):
the bowl game. Will must Champ has certainly not lived
up to that and he's out now. Oh and listen, Um,
South Carolina was finished the season fourth in the country
a few years back, like they were really good. Yeah,
Spurrier had they were really really good. So he was
top ten three years in US. Yeah they And here's
here was the problem with Spurrier. Um. Early on he
(27:32):
was having a hard time getting in state recruits to
stay at South Carolina. One of the biggest ones that
got away, and he got a lot of heat for it.
And I remember this being discussed when I worked out.
There was A J. Green. A J. Green was from
the Charleston, South Carolina area. He was a big time
high school football player there and he ended up going
to Georgia. And that's one of the sneaky rivalries in
(27:54):
college football a lot of people don't talk about because
they're not that far from each other. Um. A J.
Green was even offered a basketball scholarship at South Carolina
and still decided he was going to go to Georgia
because he was a really good basketball player. And then
he landed Marcus Lattimore and everything changed. Marcus Lattimore completely
helped change the program because then all of a sudden,
(28:15):
Um al Shan Jeffrey ended up going there. Jedevion Clowney
ended up going there. Um, you've got to Stefan Gilmore
ended up going to South Carolina. They started Melvin Ingram
was was another guy who South Carolina. Yeah, so he
started landing these recruits and all of a sudden, they're
winning bowl games, They're finishing in the top ten, as
(28:36):
you pointed out, and then it just slowly started to
fall apart. And I remember, Um Spurrier got piste off
because rival coaches were telling him, and he called it
this impromptu presscomt. Remember when Magic Johnson called this impromptu
prescott Yes, so so Spurrier actually did that well before Magic,
(28:57):
except he kind of delayed his little bit. Spurrier calls
this press I think what might have been an sec
media days. This is different than Bill Belichick, who actually
had the press conference and then the next day said
I'm not going to be the Jets. Spurrier calls these
reporters around and says, you know, I'm hearing all these
rumors talking to my recruits, these rival coaches that are
saying I'm gonna retire and I'm about ready to finish
(29:17):
up and that is not true. And he was really
piste off about it because rival coaches are saying, Man,
you don't want to go to South Carolina. That guy's
gonna end up retiring. Toom, why do you want to
go there? And he came out and he just completely
shot it down, and then five weeks later he retired.
I told I was a kidd when I told Bucky
Brooks this North Carolina football he played in Carolina. Yeah, well,
(29:40):
North Carolina football is actually somewhat back and and and
I and I told Bucky Brooks, I said, man, bringing
it back Mac Brown, who was there for years and years,
even though people think, well he's an older coach one.
I have no idea of Spurrier's interested, and he'd probably
rather play golf than anything right now. But if Spurrier
wanted to come back, South Carolina would hire Hi a heartbeat.
(30:00):
I think though the move, and we talked about it
this week is going to be Hugh Freeze. They're gonna
make They're gonna make a run and to fight the
new contract with Liberty, They're going to figure it out.
They're gonna make a run at Hugh Freeze because he
signed the contract through six. And the timing of this
is a little bit curious. The fact that they would
already make this move makes me wonder if they've already
(30:22):
either begun conversations or they're angling because they realize Hugh
Freeze is going to be really sought after that after
this season. Well, I don't know. Hugh Freeze is such
an upstanding gentleman with a great record. I'm sure any
paper you know, Steve. I mean, listen, you know some
people go through rough patches in line. Must they need
to sit here? And I'm a first to be all
about forgiveness, liberties of Christian school. It should all be.
(30:46):
It's it's not his fault that Robert kim dch was
so high that he fell out of a window. That's
not his fault, all right, It's it's not it's definitely
not his fault, all right. That you know, we gotta
accept some accountability. You know, we're while we're on the
Colombia news, and that is for those who are just joining. Well.
Must Champ fired by South Carolina football. I mean they
lost fourteen of their last twenty game. I should say
(31:07):
congratulations to Dustin Johnson, who is from Columbia, South Carolina,
the Master's champ, about an hour away from Augusta, played
college golf for Coastal Carolina, which is now a football power.
Still right, still ranked in the top twenty. By the way,
for all of you who say, man, you know, yeah,
the NFL's king, but look, there's there's enough room. I
(31:27):
had zero interest in watching the final round of the
Masters today. Zero interest. Some people were asking last night
why are we getting so many late afternoon games on
today's NFL schedule. The answer is, we've never had the
Masters finish on that network in November during football season.
So did you hear my conspiracy theory on this? Oh?
I assume there is one? Okay, go ahead, all right,
(31:48):
I I threw this out. Now, let me just prefaces
prefaces by saying, I don't actually believe that this is true,
but I'm gonna roll with it. In case it turns
out to be true. I want the credit for it.
You find the little bit coincidental that all these SEC
games just happened to be canceled this week this weekend. Yeah,
when the Masters is on CBS, you find just all
(32:10):
these games just happened to be canceled this week not
suspicious because they had moved the Bama game last night
to an evening game. Okay, it wouldn't have interfered with
the golf because remember the sunset in November is earlier.
The golf didn't go nearly as late as the Masters
usually does when it's an April event. For the people
that are saying, well, no, this is about COVID, and
this is a serious. Hold on a second, the SEC
(32:33):
has been the conference this entire time that has stared
COVID in the eyes and said, well, we don't we
don't care that you're here, don't care. We're having games
and fans and all of a sudden this weekend. Now, god, guys,
we can't do it. I'm I'm rolling with it, Steve.
I think it's a conspiracy because more people to watch
the Masters. We go back to the promo of boy
the SEC, look at the other conferences can't get games
(32:54):
in it. SEC, well, let's just bury that one and
realize that pretty much every state is up in virus numbers.
Some people take how aween very seriously, Steve Disager, I
don't know if you know that or not. The Nevers
would prove it all right, thanks Steve Jonas Knocks Fox
Sports Radio from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios, where
(33:14):
it's easy to say fiftent or more on car insurance
with Geico, Go a guo do on Comic seven Auto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.
All right, Coming up next, we were we have been
told something by a team in the NFL about their
future at quarterback. Basically we were lied to. I'll tell
you how next year on fs ARE. Wow, what a
(33:37):
bad song? Uh? Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio. Comany you
alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Again, no
Brady Quinn on the show as of yet. I have
actually spoken to Brady Quinn somehow. He's texting from a
plane on his way back from calling the u c
l a Cal game. He will try and call in
a win. That plane lands at some point here during
(34:00):
the course of the show, so we will. We will
hopefully be hearing from up Brady Quinn later on, but
if not, hey, I don't know to tell you. You
are stuck with me for the entire three hours. All right,
Coming up top the next hour here on fs ARE, Um,
We're gonna call it about twelve minutes from now one.
First of all, I can appreciate the thought, but a
(34:23):
horrible gesture twice in the NFL. Twice a horrible gesture
in the NFL. We will get to that here coming
up a little over ten minutes from now here on
Fox Sports Radio, by the way, updating you on Sunday
Night football. It is the Ravens on the road at
the Patriots, and right now early on in that game,
(34:44):
still scoreless, under four minutes left to go in the
first quarter or the the Baltimore Ravens and the Patriots
as Baltimore is trying to drive and trying to put
the ball in the end zone there. So we will
keep you posting on that one. Still scoreless. H actually
first quarter just ending Baltimore, New England scoreless there from Foxboro. UM,
(35:05):
all right, so we were lied to. Let's just call
what it is. We were lied to. We've been lied
a couple of to a couple of different times by
somebody in the NFL. That somebody was Sean Payton. Sean Payton,
the coach of the New Orleans Saints. Um, Sean Payton.
First of all, he lied to us in the off season.
(35:27):
When he said, uh, he backtracked and said, oh, I
don't know what I'm talking about. Drew signed a two
year deal. Because you remember Sean Payton made an appearance
and said, you know, Drew's last year, this is his
last year. Well, Drew Brees had just signed a two
year deal, so what are you talking about? And then
he's got to come out and say, oh, I didn't
know what I was talking. No, no, no, no, you
said it right the first time, coming back and then
(35:49):
saying no, no, uh, I don't know what I'm talking. No, no,
you did. You just got caught and you let the
cat out of the bag. This is Drew Brees is
last year. It is he's done. He's already got a
deal lined up to be a broadcaster after this. I
don't care that he signed a two year contract. He's
done after this year. It's over. It's over. And so
(36:10):
we were told, and now that was the first lie.
We'll we'll cut him a little bit of a slack,
we'll call him a half lie on that. But we
were also told that Taysom Hill was the quarterback of
the future in New Orleans. We were told that Taysom
Hill quarterback of the future. I mean that was you know,
they even paid the guy, even though he's you know,
not really was he throwing like two touchdown passes. Hasn't
(36:32):
really thrown the ball much. He's more more like a
gadget player, more like a Cordel Stewart type, a quarterback
slash receiver running back. However, they decided to use him,
and then all of a sudden, Drew Brees gets knocked
out of the game. Gets knocked out of the game
against the forty Niners earlier today. I mean, not a problem, right,
They got their quarterback of the future. Oh yeah, they
(36:55):
put in Jamis Winston. Jamis Winston was the starting quarterback
to that. Now we don't know how long Drew Brees
is going to be out. Apparently it's a rib injury.
He didn't come back into the game, which is not
good news, but he did at least stay on the sideline.
He did look pretty uncomfortable while he was on the sideline.
I don't know if his pads grew or his his
head shrunk um, but he went from a starting NFL
(37:18):
quarterback to beetle juice in about thirty seconds. It was weird,
very weird. Optics. I don't know if it was my
TV or maybe it was you know, I need to
get a new one. Who knows Black Friday Deals will
figure that out. But he looked like beetlejuice at one
point during that game, very uncomfortable on the sideline. So
we don't know how long he's gonna be out for.
But Sean Payton told you they don't have a quarterback
in the future. They gave it to Jamis Winston. He
(37:40):
came in, he was just okay. It wasn't great. Probably
could have been picked a couple of times, but he
was just okay. They get the win, and that's all
that matters at this point. But this whole Tasom Hill
gonna be the quarterback of the future, starting quarterback in
the NFL. I never bought into it. I didn't get it.
I don't know why people were name with it. I
(38:00):
don't know why we were told that was a solution
and that was going to be the guy moving forward.
I just don't buy it at all. Everything that New
Orleans has done has shown you they're trying to go
all in for this year while they still have Drew Brees,
even though skill set is diminishing, even though it looks
like he's lost his fastball completely, even though we've seen
(38:21):
that multiple times over the past couple of years, to
where he gets late in the season, gets late in
games and the ball flutters a little more and it
doesn't have the same zip. Last year he missed five games,
Teddy Bridgewater came in and played well. Drew Brees missed
five games last year, and so you thought, Okay, he's
gonna be much more fresh when he gets to the postseason.
(38:41):
And he got there, and they weren't able to figure
it out. But Sean Payton kept telling us, Taysom Hills
the guy. Taysomhill is the guy. I never bought it
for a second. This always felt like the year for
the New Orleans Saints, and part of the reason why
I didn't buy into New Orleans this season, And I
was wrong week ago, dead wrong. I thought Tampa was
(39:02):
gonna win that game. It felt like a bounce back spot.
But part of the reason why I didn't buy into
New Orleans is how many times can you get so
close and lose and just get right back In the NFL,
it doesn't happen. It happened with the Bills. But other
than that, how many times can you get really close
(39:23):
to doing something big in the NFL, suffer heartbreak and
just expect to come back and it happened again with
an aging quarterback. It doesn't happen. None of it added
up to me. So when they got to the postseason,
the first time Brady Quinn and I were on the
air for the Minneapolis Miracle, I mean that is gut wrenching,
(39:44):
just a terrible loss. And then the next season, what
is it the non p I call against the Rams,
And then the season after that, it's last year against
the Vikings again and a potential pass interference it wasn't
called on Kyle Rudolph in the end zone. It's year
after year they get really close and then they just
can't put it through. Year after year this has happened.
(40:08):
This always felt like they were going for it this year.
I never bought into the we're grooming Taysom Hill. He's
a gadget gimmick quarterback slash receiver, slash running back, slash
fake punt specialist. It's who he is. There's a niche form.
It's basically what Tim Tebow could have been had he
gotten over the fact that he couldn't play quarterback in
(40:28):
the NFL had he been opened a switching positions, but
he didn't. Thus he's playing baseball for the Mets in
single a. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio Hour two next
year on FSR. So we might have a new entrant
into the most difficult job in the history of the world.
We will get into that here coming up in just
(40:49):
a couple of moments, Jonas Knocks here on Fox Sports Radio.
You can hang out with us as always, on the
I Heart Radio app and on hundreds of Fox Sports
Radio affiliates. Wherever you are taking part in this program,
we always appreciate you doing so. Having some fun here
on a Sunday night from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios,
where fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more
(41:10):
on car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for a free
rate quote. Uh The New England Patriots have tied up
the Baltimore Ravens on a Rex burkehead touchdown. Uh So,
the the Patriots have tied up Baltimore. They're at Foxboro
on Sunday Night football, early in the second quarter and
it is all tied at seven apiece and Look, here's
(41:35):
the part about this that I that I don't understand.
I had somebody who sent me a tweet that said, well,
you know, Cam Newton's insufferable, because my whole point was,
this is the year you root for the Patriots. I mean,
they're trying to duct tape this year together to try
and win games because Tom Brady left him at the
altar and they haven't hit on some draft picks, so
(41:56):
they're trying to figure this out on the fly, in
the middle of a pandemic. So I find myself rooting
for the Patriots, and then somebody sends in a tweet
that says, one on, Cam Newton is insufferable. But how
I've never I've never understood the dislike for Cam Newton
because he celebrates a little bit who cares. Tom Brady
(42:17):
yells let's f and go. He's been doing it for
like fifteen years. Cam Newton does the Superman taunt, and
all of a sudden he's he's not liked. I've never
I've never understood the dislike for Cam Newton. Done get
in trouble off the field? All right? Is that a
couple of incidents where you know, he talked about routes
in a press conference. He apologized for it afterwards, but
(42:38):
he celebrates a big deal. He taunts big deal. Well,
he's always on social media. Have you been on Tom
Brady's Instagram? Every time a Tom Brady team wins a game,
he's got some professionally shot highlight package of the game
they won with the score at the end, Like, what
(43:00):
are we talking about here? Because he likes to brag
and eat any taunts, and man, Cam Newton has been
banged up for a long time. He finally gets a
little bit healthy. He's told by every team in the
NFL for months and months he's not good enough, while
guys like Andy Dalton and Nick Foles and Mike Glennan
and these guys are getting signed by teams, and Cam
(43:21):
Newton's just waiting, just waiting, working, trying to recover in
the middle of a pandemic with everything shut down and
not being able to do any workouts. And he lands
with the Patriots, doesn't complain, doesn't complain about the money,
not crying about how much he's making, and he's out
there grinding with a team that doesn't have any star
power whatsoever. They're banged up up and down the roster
(43:43):
and he's got to replace Tom Brady. I don't know
how you're not rooting for the guy. I find myself
rooting for Cam Newton every time they're on. I find
myself rooting for the Patriots every time they play. And
I love what Baltimore did. I love what they're doing
with Lamar Jackson, I love John Harbaugh. But I'm actually
kind of hoping New England wins his game because I
would love to see it. I'd love to see that
(44:04):
guy get another opportunity, maybe get one last contract in
his career, because Cam Newton is going to go down
as a borderline Hall of Famer. Whether he gets in
it or not, who knows. But I don't look at
him as a quote unquote quarterback. I look at him
as a football player, and that guy's a damn good
football player, and he plays the position different than anybody's
done it. So I don't get the dislike for Cam Newton.
(44:24):
I really I've never I've never gotten the dislike in
the Super Bowl, people complaining Cam Newton didn't dive on
the ball. Oh he's soft, he didn't dive on the ball.
That guy has played the quarterback position more violent than
any player in the history of the league, and all
of a sudden he's soft. Well, he walked out on
(44:45):
a press conference. He just lost the biggest game of
his career and he can hear the other team celebrating,
and he's frustrated and wants to get out of there.
What would you rather be done? Show up in a
cast after the game was over and blame it on
an injury like Lebron and then get up and walk
out and shoot and suit shorts, Like what do you
(45:05):
wanted to do? Just lots the biggest game of his career,
So I don't get it. I root for the Patriots.
Call me crazy, whatever, that's fine. Uh. Jonas knocks here
Fox Sports Radio, Brady Quinn maybe joining us next hour.
I have no idea. By the way, I wanted to
bust Brady's balls a little bit. He asked who I
was doing the show with tonight, and I said, Reggie Bush.
True story. You know, I wanted to see how that landed,
(45:25):
you know, why not? You know, tease him a little bit.
But when his plane lands, we will be hearing from
Brady Quinn. He'll be calling in hopefully next hour here
on Fox Sports radio. All right, I was trying to
think what was the most difficult job that I've ever
had in my life, because people there are certain jobs
out there that people look at and they go, man,
I definitely would never want to do that. Like you
(45:46):
see those guys who clean windows on a high rise.
I'm out. If I go on the little kid right
at the carnival, I get I get sick to my stomach. Now,
it might be the seven I P A S I
had before that and the corn dog, but nonetheless I'm
not interested. And I'm not even necessarily afraid of flights.
I jumped out of a plane before I've been I've
(46:08):
been skydiving, so I'm not really afraid of of heights.
I'm not afraid of of of being up there, you know,
and looking down and freaking out. But I have zero
interest in getting into a little cart and cleaning the
side of a building, no interest whatsoever. That's one of
the most difficult jobs in the world. And then there's
(46:29):
these these you know, and most of these involved heights
to where they've got to climb up to a certain point,
they've got to dangle there. There's a there's a video
that went around on social media where this guy was
trying to cut the top of a palm tree. So
he wraps himself up, climbs to the top of a
palm tree, cuts off the top of the palm tree,
and then starts waving back and forth, kind of like
(46:52):
a bow, back and forth. And this guy's holding on
like a koala because he doesn't want to fall off.
Neither one of those jobs I want any part of
those are extremely difficult jobs. And I've worked some really
crummy jobs janitor, rabbit, chuck e cheese, maintenance guy, toys
or us. All of those jobs miserable. Let me tell
you something. When you're cleaning the carpet in a kindergarten
(47:13):
room in the middle of summer, do you know the
type of odor that comes out of there? It's terrible.
It is you never you never forget the smell because
it's seven months worth of urine stacked on top of
each other. And you're the guy that's got to go
in there and clean out the whole room because you're
a janitor. True story. I have found the next most
(47:36):
horrible job in the history of Planet Earth, betting on sports.
I don't know how you do it. I don't know
how people bet significant amounts of money on it. Honestly,
I don't know. I don't know how you come to
terms with the idea of my entire livelihood and happiness
(47:58):
relies on somebody who has no idea who I am
and couldn't care less what I do for a living.
I don't know how you do it. It's part of
the insanity with being a sports fan. Your happiness relies
on a bunch of strangers who don't know you, don't
care about you, and aren't interested in your smile. They
(48:20):
don't care. Sports betting takes it to another level because
now you've gotten money involved. Now you've got like you know,
it's a financial impact. So I'm watching the games on
Sunday and I do this thing on my weekend overnight show.
Don't worry, you probably never listened to it. It's weekend Overnight.
You know. It's the coal mines of sports stock radio,
(48:44):
speaking of our jobs. But I do this thing called
Knox Locks. Now. I know you're thinking, oh, you must
be a really good sports gambler. No, it just rhymes
of my last name, So we go with it. That's it.
There's there is no there's no secret reason. It just rhymes.
And one of the games that I had was Cleveland
minus three hosting Houston. Well, Cleveland won the game ten
(49:06):
to seven the Browns one, So that you know it's
not a win, it's a push, but it's better than
a loss. Here's the problem. A lot of people, because
of the money that was coming in on the game,
had the Browns minus three and a half and some
people had the Browns minus four. So you think, God,
it sucks you lost by a half point. That's not
quite the story. Here's the real story. The Browns are
(49:29):
up ten seven with a minute and change left, and
they give the ball on a handoff to Nick Chubb,
and then this happens on Brown's radio. Sub running up
the left side, cuts the corner, turns the corner, drives
up the field, and Harry calls fifty forty he'll be
arriving in the end zone right. How we stepped out
(49:50):
about the one hardline with fifty six seconds lost. Remember
the bronze team. Every player raced off the sideline and
went out to tap the orange helmet up. The great
Nick Chubb and the Bronze head on and beat the
(50:11):
Houston Texas Today. Ten to seven the final score. Yeah,
here's the problem. Everybody who had Browns minus three and
a half or Browns minus four just lost their bet
because Nick Chubb decided I'm gonna be a good person
and step out at the one. That is horrific. I
(50:34):
couldn't help but feel bad, pretty and and but there
are two sides to this, pint, I get it. Well, yeah, well,
what if you have the Texans plus three and a
half and the This is sports radio. We're not here
to spread positive feelings, all right, We're here to bust balls,
have some fun and be negative. Right. I don't know
if you've gotten it or not. This is what sports
radio is. That's why it's fun. That is a terrible loss.
(50:58):
If you're a better at games in the bag, he
breaks that runoff, and if you're in a sports book
or in a public setting, you're freaking out. You're thinking,
I'm actually gonna end up winning this game on this
run and all of a sudden he steps out of
the one. It's terrible. And then you've got Arizona. The
(51:20):
Cardinals on a hail Mary from Kyler Murray to DeAndre
Hopkins win the game. But the problem is the Cardinals
are up in that game thirty two to thirty after
the touchdown, so you think, oh, well, you know I've
got Arizona minus two or Arizona minus two and a half,
which was the line. I'm good. I'll just go ahead
(51:42):
and wait for them to to to kick the extra
point and then I'm gonna win this bet. So what
does Kyler Murray do? Takes a knee with no time remaining.
They snapped the ball from the two yard line as
if they were going for two, and he took a knee.
They kicked the ball off squid kick, it goes out
of bounds. Now you're thinking to yourself, Okay, those are
(52:05):
both really smart plays by NFL players, because the thought was,
if you're Nick Chubb, I don't want to score and
give them an opportunity like the Atlanta Falcons did to
Detroit a few weeks back. I don't want to have
that happen. So you look at Nick Chubb and you go,
you know what, that's a smart play in an unselfish play.
You look at Kyler Murray and you go, you know
that's a smart play by Kyler Murray because the risk
(52:27):
was you attempt the extra point it gets blocked and
Buffalo can return it and tie the game on a
block two points blocked, extra point. So you look at
you go. Both of those are smart plays. Okay, they're smart.
You also left over millions of people, all right, there
are millions of dollars at stake because you wanted to
(52:47):
be a good person. I do not under and neither
one of them made any sense if you actually think
about this. If Nick Chubb scores, you kicked the ball
back off to Houston, what is Houston gonna do down ten?
They need two scores to win the game, and there's
(53:09):
fifty seconds left. Did you see the weather in that game?
There's a reason it was ten seven at that point
they weren't gonna score. So Nick Chubb, you screwed over
and cost people millions of dollars trying to be a
good person when the fact of the batter is it
wouldn't have mattered. You should have scored and won some
people some money. And by the way, if Nick Chubb
(53:30):
finishes his career with rushing touchdowns, I don't feel the
least bit bad for him, not after what he did
his sports betters. And then Kyler Murray taking a knee
kick the extra point. It's like, how often are extra
points are blocked? I think there was one block today,
but never mind, that does not my argument. Just kick
(53:51):
the extra point. Kicking high enough, you're saying Gonzalez kicked
the ball high enough so where it's not blocked. Win
some people some money. This this whole We're gonna be
smart about it. It is a terrible profession. I feel
bad for anybody that makes a living doing it, because
I don't know how you do it. I did sales
for a while over the phone sales, and it was
(54:12):
everybody that I can know. I can count on one
hand the number of people I worked with at this
sales job that wasn't at least an alcoholic because they
were constantly stressed out. I mean, whether it was doing
drugs in the bathroom or whatever the case may be,
a drinking during lunch, they were constantly stressed out because
(54:33):
they had to hit a quota every single month that
they were gonna lose their job. That's what it's got
to be like for a sports better. You're watching those
two games, and god forbid, you had money on both
those and god forbid you had it in a parlay
what the hell are you doing now? I mean, if
you're a smoker, do you just eat the cigarette at
that point? If you're a drinker, do you just get
(54:57):
an IV, wrap it to some moonshine and walk around
and as Mike Tyson once said, fade into bolivion. I mean,
what do you do? That is a terrible way to
make a living. And my thoughts and prayers again, my
thoughts and prayers to Bills fans for losing that game,
but more importantly, thoughts and prayers to anybody who had
money on Cleveland minus three and a half or the
(55:18):
Arizona Cardinals because their quote unquote smart play screwed you over,
and I feel bad for you. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports
Radio from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Get me
on Twitter at the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas Knocks
on Twitter. All right, coming up next. All of a sudden,
what we thought was a foregone conclusion in the NFL
(55:40):
now doesn't look so good. Find out what we're talking
about next year an fs are all right? Jonas Knocks
Fox Sports Radio, coming to you Alive from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Uh, coming up in We'll call
it at ten minutes from now here on fs ARE
we got a little bit of old school, some old
school football in more ways than one. We will dive
(56:03):
into that about ten minutes from now here on Fox
Sports Radio, updating you on Sunday Night Football. It is
the Patriots hosting the Baltimore Ravens. Right now, Baltimore has
a ten seven lead over the New England Patriots. That
one is in the first half, two minute warning before
halftime in that game from Foxborough, and uh, it looks
(56:26):
and it appears to be exactly the game that a
lot of people expected it to be. Weather it's an issue.
There's there's rain, there's wind. Uh, you know not. Neither
team is a team that's going to air it out
down the field a bunch. So both teams just trying
to keep it on the ground. Both teams just trying
to chew up a bunch of clock, which is why
this game is actually flown by. There was a game
a couple of weeks ago. I don't recall which game
(56:48):
it was specifically, it might have been Seattle in Arizona
that went really really late. But they're already at the
two minute warning in the first half at Foxborough. So
this game is loaned by on Sunday Night Football. So
we'll keep you posting on that one throughout the course
of the show and an update coming up in about
ten minutes from now. From Steve to seger Um. All right,
(57:11):
I'm not trying to press the panic button. All right,
That's not what I want to do. There's a lot
of people that like to press the panic button. I
am more of the philosophy that I don't want to
press the panic button. But if I know that other
people are, I like to at least acknowledge it. I
like to maybe at least, you know, poke some fun
at it. Um, what happened to Russell Wilson's going to
(57:34):
run away with the m v P this year? What
happened to that? Just I was curious what happened to that?
And anybody's seen that anywhere? I don't know what the
updated m VP odds are. I tried to find him.
Everything that I was seeing is, you know, was before
today's action. Russell Wilson another couple of interceptions against the
(57:56):
L A. Rams and Seattle is now six and three.
I mean, I'm again, I don't want to sit here
and and press the panic button. I don't want to
tell you. If you're a Seattle Seahawks fan, and they
are a very passionate fan base, uh, they are very
rabid about their football team. But I would like to
at least point out that you've lost three or four
(58:19):
And I would also like to point out that, you know,
a couple of weeks ago, or you know, three or
four weeks ago, when they lost to the Arizona Cardinals
and Russell Wilson threw a couple of interceptions in that game,
you looked at it and you said, well, you know,
that's just a one off man. This isn't look Russell Wilson.
He's had an m v P type season. I wouldn't
worry about it. That's just Russell Wilson having a little
(58:41):
bit of a bad game, trying to do too much
because Russell Wilson realizes, you know, he's got to try
and carry the load for this team, and they're gonna
let Russ cook. And this is just one of the
things that happens when you let Russ cook. The problem
is is that he's now thrown multiple interceptions in back
to back weeks. The Eyes got seven interceptions in his
(59:03):
last four games. So at what point do we look
at this and go, all right, maybe the team that
we saw early on in the season and m v
P Russell Wilson isn't the team that they're cracked up
to be and isn't the team that we've all been
told is going to be a threat in the NFC
because they don't look like it at all. They don't
(59:24):
look like it at all, and it could be just
a blip on the radar, it could be just something
in the schedule, but nonetheless, the Seattle Seahawks do not
look like that same team. And so when you're looking
around and you're trying to find okay, well, you know
Russ Wilson is going to be the m v P
of the NFL. Okay, well, now we have to start
to revisit that conversation. A name that Brady throughout that
(59:48):
I actually looked at and thought, okay, that's kind of interesting,
but I don't necessarily know about that was Ben Roethlisberger.
I mean, at what point do we look at Ben
Roethlisberger and say that guy's got the potential to be
an m v P this year? I mean, when are
we going to actually start to acknowledge that Patrick Mahomes
is at a pretty damn good season. Is it the
same as his m v P season. No, but I
(01:00:09):
think it's good enough to be the m v P
this year. The guy's got one pick on the season.
So this whole early on in the year, and we
want to freak out and start, you know, crowning teams
and putting them into the postseason and talk about, you know,
how good these teams are gonna be, and and all
the things Seattle does well. Their past defense has been
an issue. Their defense in general has been an issue.
(01:00:32):
And the whole idea of let's let Russ cook. All right, well,
you're letting Russ cook. He's throwing the ball a bunch
and he's turning the ball over a bunch. I know
they had injuries at running back, but when they were
running the ball last year, year before, and it was
a simplistic offense and they were just running the football,
you were winning games and at least keeping your defense
(01:00:52):
off the field because you were grinding up the clock.
This feels like teams are starting to understand they're not
really a threat to run the ball. So let's just
key in on Russell Wilson and let's just try and
make plays because we know we're gonna get points against
this defense, because the defense has been bad all year.
And so it makes me wonder now that you look
(01:01:13):
through the schedule, if you're a Seattle fan, what is
what is this team actually looking like they were? They
were running away with things. They've now lost three and
three or four in a competitive NFC And I'll say
this right now, the NFC is completely up in the air,
completely up in the air. I don't think anybody right
now feels like a runaway favorite in the NFC. The
Saints were feeling really good about things a week ago,
(01:01:35):
and now New Orleans has got a potential injury at
quarterback because of Drew Brees and the and the ribs. Uh.
Tom Brady and the Patriots, you know, had two bad games.
Looked really good earlier against Carolina, but it's Carolina. You're
not sure what to make of that. Arizona all of
a sudden is in first place in the NFC West.
They own the tiebreaker already against Seattle, so you've got
(01:01:55):
a three way tie there. Who the hell knows in
the NFC East, and then the Packers, we could say
whatever we want about Green Bay, but man, they could
have lost that game to Jacksonville, like the Packers could
have lost that game. The more that this season goes on,
the more they start to look more and more like
the Packers of where, yeah, they're winning games, but you
(01:02:16):
kind of are uneasy about it if you're a Packer fans.
So early on it looked like Russell Wilson was a
runaway favorite to an m v P and Seattle look
like a legitimate Super Bowl contender, And over the past
three or four weeks they've looked anything but. Jonas Knocks

(01:02:38):
gonna talk about a little bit of old school in
the NFL. Old School in the NFL in more ways
than one. That's next year on fs are But for
all the latest from around the world of sports, including
what the hell just happened? On Sunday Night Football, It's
Steve Disager play a New England for the Patriots in
the rain to take the lead late first half thirteen
(01:02:59):
ten over Baltimore Ravens. Rex burke Head a twenty four
yard reception on a pass from Jacobe Myers, not the
law firm, the wide receiver, but an next quarterback in
his life. And so that cap to ten play, seventy
five yard drive for the Pats to get the lead
before halftime, a minute two to go till the break.
The bad news is Nick Folks extra point kick was
wide left. So it's just a thirteen ten lead against
(01:03:22):
the Ravens. Again, Rainy and Wendy, and it's going to
get worse as the night goes along. In Foxboro. Earlier
Cam Newton had a touchdown pass to Rex Burkehead that
was seven yards ten. Home team in the lead, and
this is the New England team. That's three and five.
They had lost four in a row until Monday Nights
come back, the last second win against the Jets. Talk
(01:03:42):
about a finish at Arizona today, a Hail Mary touchdown
pass beats Buffalo thirty two thirty. It went forty three
yards from Kyler Murray to DeAndre Hopkins. Now Murray had
two touchdown runs and the game winning toss. Hopkins finished
with seven receptions a hundred twenty seven yards and Air's
own it in the third quarter, had trailed twenty three nine,
had still pulled out a home victory. Pittsburgh still undefeated.
(01:04:05):
Ben Roethlisberger with four touchdown passes against Cincinnati three hundred
thirty three yards, no sacks, no turnovers, thirty six ten
Steelers the final. The Rams beat Seattle Tree sixteen and
sacked Russell Wilson six times. He had no touchdowns, three turnovers.
New Orleans Drew Brees left with a rib injury. Saints
did beat San Francisco twenty seven to thirteen. The Niners
(01:04:26):
had four turnovers. Las Vegas thirty seven twelve over Denver
and Drew Lock Broncos quarterback through four interceptions in that game.
Miami and Tampa Bay each one. Green Bay as well.
Detroit beat Washington thirty to twenty seven on a fifty
nine yard field goal on the final play at Washington
had just tied at Alex Smith. This was his start.
He finished thirty eight of fifty five passing three hundred
(01:04:49):
ninety yards in the loss. Cleveland and the Giants each one.
South Carolina fired football coach Will must Champ. His team
was two and five this year. It was his fifth
season there Dustin john And won the Masters by five
strokes at twenty under par, breaking the Masters record of
eighteen under by Tiger Woods and Jordan's speed Woods. Today
shot a final round seventy six, so he fell to
(01:05:10):
a tie for thirty eighth place. Phil Nicholson tied for
fifty five out of the sixty golfers who made the cut.
Until today, no player currently ranked number one in the
world had one at Augustus since Tiger Woods in two
thousand two, almost a couple of decades ago. But DJ
has been hot. This was the fifth time in his
last seven starts on the tour that he'd held the
fifty four hole lead or co lead, including when he
(01:05:31):
won the Tour Championship. And he gets this major his
first Masters and Jonas knocks. I know Brady Quinn is
not here. He called the game at the Rose Bowl
U c l A over Cal. I will say that
I did see something at the Panthers Tampa Bay game.
I was watching on TV today late in the first half,
and this this can apply to any number of games
(01:05:52):
in the future. Carolina got into fueld goal range with
a long pass in the final seconds before the end
of the first half, and then there was a delay
of game on the defense called because they were keeping
the receiver down. Well, there were such a delay either
through the officiating trying to work it out, or it
seemed like Bridgewater in the offense not hurrying and just
running the next play. Here it's eight seconds left, you
(01:06:15):
at first down. You're not gonna use four plays in
eight seconds. Just spiked the ball instead. They took so
much time. If they got a buzz down from upstairs
said you know what, we're gonna look at that last catch.
Turned out it wasn't a catch. They weren't in field
goal range, and they went into halftime tied against Tampa
Bay at seventeen all. Instead of you know, Joey Sly,
(01:06:37):
distance is not a problem for the guy. They could
have had the halftime lead. So I'm just saying for
future teams, if you're in field goal range, you're not
gonna use all four downs anyway. Just spike it and
then the down is taken and then they can't review it,
even if it's the last two minutes. No buzz down exactly.
I remember Brian Billick said a peep we feel done
(01:07:00):
on a show, because God forbid that guy comes on
a weekend overnights, that's not happening. So I was filling
in on a show I think with Dan Buyer, and
I asked Brian Bill Like, I said, hey, when you
became a head coach, because he was the coordinator of
those of that Vikings offense and that it was unbelievable
with with Randy Moss and Chris Carter and UH probably
(01:07:20):
should have gone to the super Bowl, but Gary Anderson
missed the kick and and they lost to the Falcons
in a major upset in the NFC title Game. Sorry
to everybody listening on k Fan in Minneapolis, but I said,
when you became a head coach, was there anything that
that just really caught you off guard that you thought
you were prepared for? And he said, I thought I
was prepared. I had studied, I you know, my whole
(01:07:43):
life I had given to become a head coach in
the NFL, and then I got there and I said,
I don't know if I can do this. He said,
because there were so many things that he until you
actually get the job, you you don't even think about.
And I've always wondered about just sort of clock management
and that when you're a coach. Clock management has got
to be one of the most difficult things to to
(01:08:05):
actually get down and and and get really good at,
because in the chaos of the game, you're trying to
call plays making sure the right players are on. Oh
and by the way, in case this happened, spiked the ball.
So I always feel bad for the especially early on
a guy like Matt Rule, I wonder if he's going
to look at that and go for future references make
the adjustments so we can actually get a lead before
(01:08:26):
we go to clock management. Especially, and keep in mind
remember when Joe Gibbs got back into NFL coaching, he
had the largest staff that we've ever seen. There's a
salary cap for your team, for your roster, there is
not for your coaching staff. Whoever you need do it.
It will help you as a head coach to have
one guy for clock management, like essentially a lot of
teams have one guy upstairs to look at video and say, hey,
(01:08:48):
challenge that. I mean, don't think for a second that
that's all on the head coach at the field. Whether
he's saying, Okay, I saw it and I'm going to
challenge it. That's really not the case, get a guy
the Monday night game the Ronco's who let the clock
run all the way down and then Gostkowski made that kick.
Vic Fangio was getting crushed for it afterwards, and Fancio
said after the game, I could have done a better
(01:09:10):
job with that. I was focused on calling the defensive
plays and and that'sive guy. And that brings to mind
the Rams who sometimes you see McVeigh an offensive guy
actually seated on the bench while his defense is on
the field because he's going over the next drive, and
and and he said that, and he was being honest,
and it's a real thing if you call It's why
(01:09:31):
I wonder what Matt Naggy is gonna do when he's
not having a call plays. Exactly my next point. He
shoved it off to a guy who has the title
of offensive coordinator, Bill Laser, who's going to call the
plays to he's probably gonna after the game over. But wow,
that was kind of easy, Like I didn't I actually
could focus on the entire game and not have to
try and figure out while Nick Fole why Nick Foles
(01:09:52):
just is playing worse than Mitch Drabinsky. I can actually
like focus on what my team is trying to do.
And this goes back to my point of generally in
all sports there should not be a person who's coach
and GM. Those are two separate jobs. Doc Rivers was
not a good GM. It did not serve the Clippers
well to have both jobs. Look at the Texans this
past couple of you. Good day for the Texans. By
(01:10:14):
the way. By the way, Steve, are you trying to
tell me Rick Pottino didn't work in Boston exactly? Look
at all the cash that Calipari got in the NBA.
If you can get it, go ahead, get it. But
as a team, do you do it? Rip? Petino signed
Purpose Ellison? You don't remember that big signing for the
Boston and I remember distinctly Rick Pettino saying I think
(01:10:34):
Ron Mercer had a tremendous upside. Okay, thank wait wait,
can we can we have faith that please? Steve T.
Sager's limited Rick Pettino impression? Can we please update that
that is? That is an amazing performance by Steve Disacre.
By the way, Steve, did you notice we got a
little bit of old school in the Browns Texans game?
(01:10:55):
Did you notice who was on the call for Brown's Texas. Okay,
Matt Millen and Dick's Stockton. Wow, Matt Millen and Dick Stockton.
Before he became general manager, if if you could call
what he did being a general manager of an NFL team,
Matt Millen was noted as Oh, this is going to
be the next big analysts like whenever Madden leaves the
(01:11:16):
net work all that kind of thing. Yeah, he's awesome,
and and and him, and I was listening. I'm like, man,
so hold on a second. We got a ten seven game.
Weather's an issue, running the ball is the priority, and
it's Dick Stockton and Matt Millen on the call. It
was like the late eighties all over again. It felt
like it felt like ninety nineties football. I was. I
(01:11:37):
was so thrilled just watching that game, hearing those two
because they were a team. If I'm not mistaken years
and years ago. I think they were broadcast due all
below summer and yeah, I think they worked games together
for a long time and you could tell there was
there was a chemistry and a familiarity about it because
they just they played well off each other. The game
(01:11:59):
was low scoring, it was, you know, a grinded kind
of football game and I'm watching it, going, this is
the football I grew up on, Like, I'm okay with it.
You guys can have your shootouts and you can have
all the other craft that comes along with it and
the fireworks, displays and all that. The Rams Chiefs Monday
Night football, gimme ten seven and gimme Dick Stockton and
(01:12:19):
Matt Millen on the call. And they were probably together
for football at about the same time. Basketball had Dick
Stockton and Tommy Hinson who just passed away. That was
on network Basketball for many years. And you know you
talk about old school game, this game tonight, that's now
at halftime, Patriots thirteen ten over the Ravens. I mentioned
earlier in the show, driving rain, very windy, and the
(01:12:42):
winds supposed to get worse as the night goes along.
If this wasn't an artificial turf field at Foxboro, this
would be every clip you've seen from nineteen seventies NFL
films that would be this game. There was a playoff
vikings at Rams game back in the seventies. If you
can find NFL films, you could not see the uniform
(01:13:02):
numbers of the players in the second half because it
was all mud at the l A. Calcum. You know
how many Bears games I watched growing up and I
would see a running back get up off the turf
and there'd be a chunk of grass in his face mask.
Like I thought, that was normal, I thought. And then
I watched an Eagles game at the VET and I
was like, oh, well, why isn't your graph coming up. Oh,
that's because it's ruining knees. It's it's direct the cement
(01:13:23):
underneath those nineteen seventies like cookie cutter stadiums. And then
it had the lip in the in the in the
artificial turf, there was like this lipped where we were together.
I remember an NFL preseason game where they tried to
go back to the Astrodome for a game and they
couldn't complete it because of the seams that oh, this
is not It's like that one in the Hall of
(01:13:43):
Fame game where they said, you know what, this field
is just not gonna cut it. We're not going to
put NFL athletes on this. The update late in the
Ravens are down three, is that on Baltimore's last offensive
play of the first half, Lamar Jackson throwing deep was intercepted,
and then the Pats took a knee. So third teen ten,
New England still in the lead. So one t d
and one interception for Jackson. Love it low scoring. Weather's
(01:14:08):
an issue running the football. There's this is This is chili,
all right? You know this is chili. What are you
gonna have for dinner tonight? Oh? I'd like a salmon
with a side of no, no, no, give me a
bullet chili. All right. This is chili and it's spicy,
and it's Sunday night football. I'm all about this, Steve.
We love snow globes. Why don't you like weather impacted
(01:14:29):
football games? So if it's gonna saying, then you're saying
edge to the Ravens because they have justin Tucker. Heys yes,
and as long as they don't win by more than seven,
I'm okay. Are you saying someone's going to pay a
visit to this show? Actually listen. It's the weird thing
about Live at Jesus. He only shows up when Brady
Quinn is here. Brady's on here, and so makes you
wonder are they the same guy? We can't confirm or deny.
(01:14:54):
It does make you, by the way. I've always thought
it's a little uh the name, especially when he so
error prone. It should be live bet Lucifer. That would
be more. That would be the opposite you see or
be loser thing you want on zoom or it is. Yeah,
we we should actually build a segment around drops of
Brady Quinn and I'll just protect can be here. Yeah,
(01:15:17):
let's let's try it right now. Brady, what did you
make um earlier? I know you were calling a u
c l A cal How do you think the Chip
Kelly era is going for U c l A tap rackets?
He said it best, folks, right there, he said it best,
Brady um a prediction for the second half of the
Sunday night football game between the Ravens and the Patriots.
I'm just trying to get it in. Okay, very good,
(01:15:39):
All right, that didn't work as well as I thought
it would. All right, Coming up next year on by
the way, from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios, where
it's easy to say fift cent or more on car
insurance with Geico, go to Geico dot Comic seven Auto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier
up next year on us not yet, not yet, unless
you're lucky up next, we may all will not me.
(01:16:04):
I don't because I didn't choose to bully this person
in the NFL. I didn't choose to make fun of
and mock this person in the NFL. But just you,
you may owe somebody in the National Football League a
major apology. Find out who we're talking about next year.
On FSR hashtag clickbait playing all the hottest hits from
(01:16:26):
fifteen years ago. This is Fox Sports Radio. Jonas knocks
with the here on fs are my God. I haven't
heard a good song on this show in probably two years.
This song sucks, Bobo. What are we doing here? D
The only time you ever complement a song that I
(01:16:47):
play is when I'm playing Death to Owns Change. That's
the only song that you ever comment on. What about
thirty six Crazy Fish? You got thirty six Crazy Fists
in the system. I don't even know what that is.
It's a band from Alaska. I don't even know why
you know that little louve for for the Alaskan hard
rock music scene. Let's let's just be glad my Space
(01:17:08):
deleted a certain bands page. Yeah, I wish I could
delete my tattoo ask by the way, ask ask me
to name another hard rock band from Alaska. Right now,
name another hard rock band from Alaska. Jonas Knocks from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Coming up in ten
minutes from now here on fs are we will get
(01:17:30):
into by the way, yes, you know, not very really
well versed in that part of the country. Um, coming
up ten minutes from now Uh, there was a we
were speculating something I wasn't because I actually, you know,
I did not want to go down that road. But
we were speculating something as a as a you know,
(01:17:51):
as fans people who watch the NFL, that one team
had an ulterior motive and a strategy. And um, as
it turns out, that was a bunch of crap. All right,
so you were served a bunch of crap. I will
address that coming up ten minutes from now here on
Fox Sports Radio. By the way, Sunday Night Football. At
(01:18:11):
the half, the New England Patriots a thirteen to ten
lead over the Baltimore Ravens at the half, So the
Patriots grinding it out. America's team, the New America's team,
The New England Patriots a thirteen to ten lead over
the Baltimore Ravens at the half. We will keep you
(01:18:32):
posted on the second half there. From Foxboro, there is
a long line that is beginning to form right now.
Whether or not you want to get in this line
right now or not, I don't know. That's up to you.
Um it's like going to the d MB. Some people
are okay standing in line at the DMV. Other people
would rather get it over with ahead of time, and
(01:18:54):
they try and get as much stuff done online as possible,
or they'll make an appointment. All right, But there is
a long line for warming in the NFL, and that
long line is the Joe Judge apology line in the
National Football League. Joe Judge, the head coach of the
New York Giants, who are big division win against the
(01:19:15):
Philadelphia Eagles. Now we're gonna forget about the fact that
it's the NFC East. We're simply going to focus on
the fact that the New York Giants are right behind
Philadelphia for the NFC East lead percentage points behind because
Philadelphia has played a couple of more games, or they've
played one less game, but they've got a tie. It's
a whole weird tie thing. But nonetheless, the New York
(01:19:37):
Giants are in the hunt to potentially win the NFC East,
So this line apologizing to Joe Judge is starting to form. Now,
I didn't mock Joe Judge. I didn't bully the guy.
I didn't make fun of him when he was doing
all these old school tactics in the off season and
(01:19:58):
everybody was saying, oh, by god, he's trying to be
Bill Belichick and he's not Bill Belichick. Just be yourself, Joe, Uh,
stop embarrassing yourself. You're not Bill Belichick. Okay. You know
who plays their ass off every single game. You know
who's in every single game with an opportunity to win.
You know who's really only decisively lost one game all
(01:20:22):
season long? The New York Giants. They play their ass
off there in every single game. You can look at
the record all you want, or you can actually dig
a little bit deeper and go okay, but if a
couple of things had gone this way, how would that
game have looked? If a couple of things had gone
(01:20:43):
that way, what would the win lost record have been.
I'm telling you, Joe Judge is doing a hell of
a job in New York. He's got those guys fighting.
He's got those guys competing, and he's potentially got himself
a division winner with the Giants. It's a crap bass division,
no doubt about it. But nonetheless get in line for
the apology to Joe Judge after the season if they
(01:21:04):
do win the NFC East. Jonas knocks more next year
on fs ARE. Yeah, there was this thought, there was
this notion that was thrown out there about one team
strategy moving into the future, and I didn't buy into it.
It didn't make any sense to me, and it still doesn't.
And as it turns out, no, yeah, that's not actually
gonna happen. We will get to that here coming up

but Brady Quinn is had himself a banger of a
weekend UH called a college football game Iowa Minnesota on
Friday night, did Big Neon kickoff on Saturday, and then
(01:22:10):
because of all the scheduling changes and the cancelations and
the COVID and the rest of the disaster that has
been going on around college football, Brady Quinn was on
the call of U C, l A and Cow from
the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. So he is on a
flight back home to Fort Lauderdale. Thus he is not
(01:22:30):
on the show with us, but he should be checking
in with us at some point this hour. That is
the hope, That is the plan. So we might be
hearing and you might be getting a little bit of
Brady Quinn does here on Fox Sports Radio Update on
Sunday Night Football. Here on fs are uh the Patriots
with a twenty to ten lead over the Baltimore Ravens,
(01:22:51):
And Uh, look, I've said it. I I'm I'm repeating
it because I do think it is worth mentioning. I
am adamant be rooting for the New England Patriots because
I would love nothing more than to see the Patriots
find some level of success after Tom Brady. And it's
not a slide on Tom Brady. I love Tom Brady,
but I just love this patchwork Patriot team. They're just
(01:23:14):
running the ball, They're having to be creative, just trying
to figure it out as they go along. They got,
you know, struck with two of their best players, potentially
got hit with COVID. They missed time, they miss games,
they had to move stuff around. So I know nobody
wants to feel bad for the Patriots. It's not that
I do either, but I do like the idea of
the Patriots still trying to figure it out because I
(01:23:35):
think it showcases how good of a coach Belichick is
and how great that system really is is and has
been for a long time. So Tom Brady is getting
all the love and I get all that, but I
would love nothing more than to see the Patriots still
find some level of success. So I am rooting for
the New England Patriots. I will say that right now.
Um remember when and this was this was thrown out there,
(01:23:59):
there was a thought that the reason the Miami Dolphins
started to uh is because this was a tryout for
the rest of the season, because depending on how the
how this season went, the Miami Dolphins might end up
drafting a quarterback with Houston's pick, because they do have
(01:24:21):
Houston's first round pick. So the thought is, all right,
we'll give two of the rest of the season, let's
see what you got, and if we're not satisfied, we're
gonna go draft another quarterback. Remember when all that was
being said, that was it was just like a couple
of weeks ago, all that was being said, Oops, the
hell was that? Man? Now that we look back, what
(01:24:42):
the hell was that? Did we just make that up?
Is that just? Was that just made up? At a
thit air? You just decide, you know what, let's just
go ahead and make some stuff up. That said, you know,
we'll just make stuff up and see if anybody wants
to go with it. Why not, maybe I should start.
I'll just start making stuff up and see who's gonna
run with it. Screw it? What do we got to lose?
(01:25:06):
What a bunch of crap. So the Dolphins win again.
Two is now three and I as a starter. Do
you still think this is just a trial run for
two in Miami. And don't get it twisted. I'm not
exactly blown away by tas performances thus far. All right,
I'm not exactly a guy who looks at two and goes,
(01:25:28):
oh my god, this dolphin. I mean, he's he's the
next big thing. I'm not going that far because I
refused to play that game, because I pointed this out
on my weekend overnight show here on Fox Sports Radio
that you probably had on but you were too drunk
to even realize it was on on Friday and to Saturday.
But I was talking about this that we're doing the
uh the I call it the evaluation where it's the
(01:25:51):
roller coaster. So it's a roller coaster EVL when it
comes to tah We did it with Dak Prescott. Now
we're doing it with Tua. Were after the first game,
all of a sudden it was a trial run and
we're not really sure about two are moving forward and
after the game against Arizona, all of a sudden, it's
to us, you know, a future pro bowler and a
future All pro and and now we're just relax. You
(01:26:15):
gotta let this stuff play out. And here's the problem.
This is where people started taking this. They confused what
happened in Arizona with what is going to happen in
other places moving forward. And this is why we do this.
You hear the term it's a copycat league in the NFL,
and it is. It absolutely is. If something works in
(01:26:38):
the NFL, somebody is going to take that more often
than not and they're gonna run with it. So if
somebody has success with an offensive minded head coach like
a Sean McVeigh, a young guy who's never been a
head coach before, but they have success, it's a copycat league. Thus,
all these other Sean McVeigh disciples or guys that have
never coached before, but they've got an off fensive back,
(01:27:00):
all of a sudden, you're gonna take that, and you're
gonna try and copycat that, and you're gonna try and
make it work. Remember when the wildcat was a big
deal in the NFL, all of a sudden, all these
other teams decided we had to have a wildcat package.
If you didn't have a wildcat package, you could not
compete in the NFL in that year. So, yes, there
is copycat league. There's a copycat element to the league.
(01:27:22):
We all know that we get it. There's a copycat
element to the league. This isn't it, though not everything
is needs to be copied because there are one off
situations in the National Football League. There are one off
scenarios in the NFL. What happened in Arizona where the
(01:27:42):
Arizona Cardinals drafted Josh Rosen and hired Steve Wilkes and
then decided after one year they were going to move
off them. That's more often than not, never going to
happen again. It's not going down that way. So this
idea that this was a trial for two uh, then
if you get to the draft, then you'll just go
ahead and you'll figure it out and you'll take another player.
(01:28:04):
If it doesn't work this way, it's not happening. The
Arizona situation was unique in the sense that Josh Rosen
and Steve Wilkes it clearly wasn't working. After one year,
Steve came was given the ability to admit I made
a mistake, I hired the wrong coach potentially, although I
(01:28:25):
I don't think Steve Steve Wilkes necessarily got a fair shot,
and I definitely don't think Josh Rosen got a fair shot,
but he saw an opportunity to pair up Kyler Murray
and Cliff Kingsbury. That that's not ever going to happen
more most likely ever again. That was a one off situation.
So the reason he parted ways with Steve Wilkes, the
(01:28:47):
reason he parted ways of Josh Rosen, is because a
unique situation presented itself and he jumped on it and
guess what, it worked. But it doesn't mean it's going
to have been ever again, especially when it's to a
who's one of the most highly thought of prospects at
the quarterback position in a long time. The idea that
(01:29:11):
Miami was gonna try him out the rest of the
year and then they're gonna draft another quarterback was insane.
It didn't make any sense. That was us trying to
turn one situation into the copied version of another. It's
not happening. First of all, the hiring of Cliff Kingsbury
in Arizona. Do you know that they were being laughed
at when they made the higher he didn't work in
(01:29:34):
the Big twelve? What makes you think he would work
in the NFL? They're being laughed at. I mean, it
was the Cliff King. You go down and look at
his record, and he was not good, especially in big
games against ranked up he was not good at all.
It was a ballsy move, but it was a move
that was made because you realized, we can pare him
(01:29:57):
up with a quarterback that we think is going to
make all the sense in the world old and those
guys are gonna work great together. Cliff Kingsbury has been
high on Kyler Murray for years. That's why that made sense.
You needed both of those to happen in order for
them to make the move and for them to take
the gamble and walking away from a quarterback they traded
up for in Josh Rosen and a head coach they
(01:30:17):
just hired in Steve Wilkes. But because that worked and
that situation took place, doesn't mean it was gonna take
place in Miami with Tua. It never made any sense.
So now he's three and I as a starter, and
look their defense, their special teams, all of that is
playing a big role into this. I think I saw
(01:30:39):
a stat today to where Miami's defense has created a
turnover in seventeen straight games, Like that's impressive. Like they're
blocking punts they're like, they're getting all three phases involved,
and they're a really fun team to watch. So I'm
not trying to say that toa is putting on these
justin Herbert type of moments is where it's only him
(01:31:01):
and he's saving the day, not even at all. But
he's in a really good spot because he doesn't need
to do it all and he can actually learn and
he can actually get better and better coming off a
devastating injury that ended bo Jackson's career. But the fact
that we were running with this whole well, the reason
they're starting him so soon is because they're looking at
(01:31:24):
giving him a tryout because maybe they'll take a quarterback
at this at the top of the draft that stop.
It doesn't make sense. He is an upgrade over Ryan Fitzpatrick.
He is not that he's a better quarterback right now.
But I think they're a better team with two is
starting at quarterback than with Fitzpatrick because I don't think
they're gonna ask him to do as much as they
were doing with Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is going to take more chances.
(01:31:48):
You can get mobile with two of you can get
creative and crafty with him and there's a different buzz
and energy with the Dolphins with two quarterback there just is.
It's palpable. You can sense it when you watch a game.
But this idea they were just gonna part ways after
the season if it didn't go stop. Man, not everything
is copied in this league. The Cliff Kingsbury Kyler Murray's
(01:32:08):
situation was a one off. Like so many things had
to go just right for that to happen. Cliff Kingsbury
had to be fired, Kyler Murray had to walk away
from baseball and then have a Heisman Trophy type season,
and then all of a sudden, Arizona was bad the
year before and ended up with the first pick. So
(01:32:28):
many things had to happen in order for that. That
was lightning in a bottle. It's not gonna happen again,
and it wasn't gonna happen again. In Miami, Jonas Knocks

at the Jonas Knocks on Twitter. Um, by the way,
I've just heard from Brady Quinn. Nothing like an insult
(01:32:51):
from your partner who just landed. He just landed, the
flights just landed, already being insulted viattacks from Brady Quinn.
Just unbelievable, zero respect on this show. But Brady Quinn
will be joining us here later on this hour here
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, coming up next, Um,
we're going to get into a scenario in the NFL
that could present itself in the near future and it's
(01:33:13):
not going to make a lot of you very happy.
Find out what we're talking about here on FSR. Jonas
Knocks Fox Sports Radio. Coming to you live here from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up in about
ten minutes from now. We will be joined allegedly. All right, listen,
I'm gonna I'm gonna say that it's gonna happen, but
I'm not totally confident in it. But we will be
(01:33:34):
joined allegedly by Brady Quinn coming up ten minutes from
now here on Fox Sports Radio. His plane is about
to land. If you were just tuning in and not familiar,
there's a couple of key items we must point out.
Number one, Uh, Brady Quinn is not on the show
because he's was calling the u c l a Cal
game earlier on Sunday nine am kickoff, which I believe
(01:33:57):
is the earliest start time of a football game that
Brady Quinn has either played in or called as an analyst.
So we'll get his thoughts on that. So he should
be sure joining us here in about ten minutes from now.
So he was not here during the course of the show, um,
but we will be hearing from him shortly. Also, we
must point out Sunday night football America's nightmare is taking
(01:34:19):
place before your very eyes and ears. The New England
Patriots all over the Baltimore Ravens twenty ten, the score
six and a half minutes, minutes left to go on
the third quarter. You probably think of yourself, well, that's
not an insurmountable lead. I don't know, have you seen
Baltimore when they're trailing in games? Baltimore you know, with
(01:34:42):
Lamar Jackson while they're trailing, not exactly a high success rate.
So uh, the New England Patriots, uh figuring out a
way to win while a significant underdog is the Belichick Special,
So that might be that might be taking place as
we speak right now. Nonetheless, the Patriot, it's halfway through
the third quarter, have a ten lead over Baltimore, and
(01:35:05):
weather is a major issue. You've got wind, you've got rain,
and the Patriots had pretty much beaten Baltimore at their
own game. That's really what this is. Uh. They've run
the ball really well. They've figured out a way to
to manage the weather. They got crafty Jacobe Myers through
a touchdown pass to Rex Burkehead earlier. So they've figured
(01:35:26):
out a way with with just bits and pieces, a
few spare parts, some duct tape, bubblegum uh and a
number two pencil, have figured out a way to to
extend the lead here at home. So people may not
like it. They may want the Patriots just to go
away for good. You thought you were ridding yourselves of
(01:35:47):
the New England Patriots after Tom Brady departed and went
to Tampa Bay. Uh. No, the Patriots are here. They're
making a little bit of noise. Will they make a
playoff run highly doubtful because they are a couple of
games out of first in the a F the East.
Um Buffalo's loss helps them, but Miami looks like a
much different football team and it could end up being
Miami winning that division. Based on the heartbreaking loss for
(01:36:10):
the Buffalo Bills, earlier, so we will keep you posted
on the halps of the Sunday night football game between
the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. Uh that
the Patriots with a third team point lead right now
in the third quarter, all right. I know that in
speaking about the New England Patriots, I know that there
(01:36:33):
are a lot of people out there that looked at
this offseason and said, can we just break those two
up and let's just move on, and let's just go
somewhere else where. We are tired of it. We've got fatigue.
I know that that's happening. And you had fatigue in
the sense that the New England Patriots had run rough
(01:36:54):
shot over the NFL for twenty years. Tom Brady obviously
was a part of that. So Tom Brady, there was
a little bit of fatigue there. There are a lot
of people who don't like the New England Patriots. They're
tired of the winning. They think they cheat, they're tired
of the success. They're jealous in a league in which
consistency is a foreign subject, the new foreign language. The
(01:37:16):
New England Patriots have figured it out and New England
has been consistent for twenty years. All right, I said
it earlier. You can argue they've had two different dynasties,
the first ten years and the second ten years. Unbelievable
consistency never seen again in the NFL. In my mind,
you'll never see it. And so you thought, all right,
Brady's gone, the Patriots are gone, go your separate rays.
(01:37:37):
We don't have to deal with them anymore. Here's the thing, though,
For as much as we made about the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers losing last Sunday Night to the New Orleans Saints,
there was a glaring issue with the analysis of Tampa
Bay's loss to the New Orleans Saints. It was just
(01:37:58):
one loss, Tampa Bay seven and three. They're they're a
half game behind the New Orleans Saints. Now you could
say tiebreakers and New Orleans, you know, they won both games. Again,
that's fine, but there's a really good chance that Tampa
Bay is going to win that division. There's a really
(01:38:20):
good chance that Tampa Bay might end up with the
one seed in the NFC. And here's the reality of
Tom Brady's career. One of the secrets to his success
is getting a bye in the postseason or getting home
field advantage. One less game you have to play. And
(01:38:41):
that always meant something in the a f C, and
that was with six teams. Now you add an extra
team in, so it means even more so. This idea
that because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost last week and
they got absolutely annihilated by New Orleans. It was a
bad loss, no down about it. Tom Brady looked bad,
(01:39:02):
Bruce arians was critical afterwards. And then they come back
this week and they do what Tampa Bay does when
they're really good. They played defense well enough, they forced
some turnovers. Uh, next thing, you know, uh, they're running
the football. You've got Ronald Jones breaking off a nine
yard touchdown run and Tampa Bay is often rolling and
Tom Brady is using play action and finding Rob Gronkowski
(01:39:26):
all of a sudden has found himself, you know, seemingly
back into shape and playing good football again and having
an impact. And then you've got Mike Evans catching a touchdown.
Godwin gets involved, Antonio Brown was getting involved. They're running
the ball like this is a well rounded football team.
(01:39:46):
And so I think when you watch what happened last week,
because it was a standalone stage, the overreaction is always significant.
It's always gonna be there because everybody was watching and
everybody was paying attention, and it was a surprise. Tampa
Bay got down early in that game. We were on
the air, Brady and I were talking about it, and
Jared Cook fumbled near the end zone and it felt like, okay, okay, okay,
(01:40:10):
now we'll get to see the real Tampa Bay. And
then they go three and out and New Orleans never
looked back. So we looked at that and we said, okay, listen,
Tampa Bay, they're done. Uh. New Orleans is still the
class Tampa Bay or frauds. And then a week later,
what do we got? Now? They are a half game
behind New Orleans in the division. Tom Brady and the
(01:40:31):
offense looked awesome. Oh and by the way, Drew Brees
couldn't even finish the game. Jamis Winston came in because
Breeze had cracked ribs. And I don't know about Green Bay.
You could argue Green Bay should have lost that game
to Jacksonville earlier. I have no idea what what Green
Bay is. The more I see the Packers, the more
I look at them and go, this kind of looks
(01:40:53):
like the team last year. You know, that's in a
lot of neo biers against teams they should be blowing out.
So I know it's not gonna make a lot of
people happy, but Tampa Bay is in a really good spot.
Tom Brady is in a really good spot, and they
had a couple of down weeks. The game against the Giants,
who are are turning out to be a pretty tough
(01:41:13):
out in the NFL because there in every single game
was not a good look on Monday Night football, and
they got hammered a week ago. But they're not going anywhere. Man,
if I'm a Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan, I feel good
about things, And if I'm the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I
feel good about things, especially when you see that Drew
Brees could be out, could he could miss some time
(01:41:33):
based on the injury he suffered earlier. Today, Jamis Winston
came in and the offense didn't look nearly like the
offense they did with Drew Brees, even though he's got
a stronger arm and he's more athletic and all of that.
So if you're Tampa Bay, look back at last week,
throw the game away, don't overthink it, and just be
ready to go at the back end of the season
because I think they're gonna make a play at the
number one seed in the NFC. And if Tom Brady
(01:41:55):
gets that by that's always been the secret ingredient to
his Super Bowl runs in New England. You could end
up seeing Tom Brady in another Super Bowl, this time
at home at Raymond. James Jonas knocks Fox Sports Radio.
Do you own or rent your home? Sure you do. Fortunately,
Geico makes it easy to bundle your home and car insurance.
It's a good thing too, because having a home is

Coming up next, we allegedly are going to hear from
the great Brady Quinn. The great Brady Quinn who called
the game between Iowa and Minnesota. He called a game
between u C. L A and cal and in between
there he did Big Neon Kickoff on Fox. We are
hoping to hear from Brady Quinn. That coming up next.
(01:42:38):
But for all the latest from around the world of sports,
including what is happening in a very wet Sunday night
football game. Steve to say that is an understatement, a
driving rain storm in Foxboro tonight and New England at
home is leading Baltimore to ten about two minutes to
go in the third quarter. The game's still out there
to be one for the visiting Ravens, who enter with
a six and two record, but it is so far
(01:43:00):
been a forgettable night for them. Lamar Jackson does have
a touchdown pass, but an interception as well. They also
botched a fourth down, taking Jackson out of the backfield
once and turned it over on downs. They've missed Calais
Campbell dearly on the defensive line, and now Ravens tight
end Nick Boyle was carted off after a very bad
looking leg injury. Down two touchdowns, but with the ball
(01:43:22):
and they've driven down to the New England twenty five
late third quarter Patriots for the moment of twenty three
ten Cam Newton with a touchdown pass and a touchdown run.
Hail Mary victory at Arizona Cardinals beat Buffalo thirty two
thirty on a forty three yard desperation passed to DeAndre Hopkins,
who beat three defenders. Hopkins with seven receptions a hundred
(01:43:44):
twenty seven yards Pittsburgh's nine and oh after ripping Cincinnati
thirty six ten. The Rams down Seattle sixteen, sacking Russell
William Russell Wilson six times. Meanwhile, no touchdowns, three turnovers
for Wilson and at New Orleans, the News is a
dull year. That's six straight wins for the Saints. They
beat San Francisco. Buck quarterback Drew Brees left with injured ribs.
(01:44:06):
He'll have an m R I and X rays Las
Vegas and Miami each one for the Dolphins. That's five
straight wins. Victories for Tampa Bay and Detroit. Lions got
a fifty nine yard field goal on the final play
by Matt Prator and beat Washington thirty to twenty seven.
Matthew Stafford of Detroit played through a thumb injury and
had three touchdown passes. Wins for Cleveland, the Giants and
Green Bay, which edge Jacksonville. The Packers are seven and two.
(01:44:30):
Jacksonville has lost eight in a row. There one and eight.
South Carolina fired football coach Will must Champ. His team
was two and five this year. He was in his
fifth season there. Indiana moved up to number nine in
the new AP College Football Poll. The top eight remained
the same. The Hoosiers will play at number three Ohio
State this Saturday on Fox Steve's Big New and Eastern
Time Kickoff. Rankings for the college football Playoff from the

SU will not play Colorado on Saturday because it's still
under the fifty three player minimum because of COVID. Reportedly,
if Utah is still out as well, Baby Colorado USC

(01:45:14):
by five strokes. Tiger Wood shot a final round seventy six,
falling to a tie for thirty eight place. Meanwhile, it's
final seconds of the third quarter seventeen Patriots over the
Baltimore Ravens, who scored on Lamar Jackson's eighteen yard touchdown
pass to Willie Sneed his second TV of the nights

Fox Sports Radio Studios, where it's easy to say a
fifteen per center more on car insurance with Geico go
to Geico dot Comical eight seven Auto. The only hard
part figuring out which way is easier. Awaiting the arrival
of Brady Quinn, who knows. Man, listen, uh, touch and
go with Brady depending on you know what games he's
calling this weekend because he's been doing so much. But
we are hopeful to hear from Brady Quinn here coming
(01:45:57):
up in just a couple of moments from now. Um,
I'll say this, there's a lot of people we live
in southern California, there's a lot of people that are
are envious of our weather. And I can remember having
a conversation with um Nate Lundi used to be a
host here in Fox Sports Radio. Great dude, UM buddy
of mine, worked with him, awesome guy. Remember having a
(01:46:19):
conversation about why he liked living in Denver so much,
and he said, the reason he liked living in Denver
so much is that he got all four seasons so
it could be And it happened earlier this year to
where it was like nineties something degrees in Denver one
day or eighty something crazy and then the next day
it was like thirty eight. And he told me that
(01:46:40):
we get all four seasons there. I gotta be honest
with you, man, it's cool that it was eight three,
eight five in southern California. Today, you know, it's even
cooler the elements during football season. And I'm watching this
Patriots game and it's pouring rain. I'm watching the Browns
and they look like, uh, you know, they're in the
(01:47:01):
middle of, you know, a tropical storm because the winds
are blowing as hard as they are. I'm watching actual
games being impacted by weather all throughout the weekend, and
we can't even get enjoy that. We can't get any
of that. And you may think, oh my god, well
we would trade you. No, no, no, I would trade you.
During football season. There's a certain weather that I associate
(01:47:21):
with football season, especially in November, as we start to
get later in the year and later in the season,
and I associate the leaves on the ground, wind, rain,
occasional snow, and guys bundled up like they're on the
set of a live And that's what I'm getting in
(01:47:41):
this game. We don't get that in Southern California. No, no,
I mean, we've got people walking around in shorts and
flip flops. We don't get that. No, it's not happening,
not in southern California. We don't get to enjoy any
of that. So you may not like it, it may
be uncomfortable, but I can tell you I would trade
spots with you right now. You can have eighty five degrees.
Give me the elements. It's ustly if I don't have
to be outside in them. It's fun to watch. It's
(01:48:03):
a better football that way. Sorry, I don't know what
to tell you. Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports Radio.
Um this actually, although I will say this, if this
game continues the way that it's going for the Baltimore Ravens,
just if you're Lamar Jackson, don't even turn on sports
radio or television for a week. I mean, if you do,
(01:48:23):
turn on Fox Sports Radio. But at least if you
turn it on, you can you can turn the volume
down if you want, but at least give us the
ratings just to have it on so we get we
get points in credit for it. Just stay away because
it's gonna be the same thing people always say about
the Baltimore Ravens. Yeah, but they can't win a big game.
And you know, here we go primetime again and Lamar
(01:48:45):
Jackson and the Ravens just can't seem to win these games.
You know, they get, they trail in games and they
can't seem to figure out a way to come back
and and and pull out of w Because if you
look back at Lamar Jackson's worst games, we made the
point earlier, the two playoff games times. The game against
the Chargers, fans wanted him bench, they wanted Joe Flacco
and that's how bad that game got. And then the
(01:49:07):
game against Tennessee, I think he threw an early pick
and Tennessee never looked back the Baltimore was never in
that game from that moment forward. Don't kid yourself. They
were never in that game. And then you go back
to the game against Kansas City earlier this year. And
so people came into this season saying, look, we know
Baltimore is probably going to be a really really good
(01:49:28):
regular season team. We know their travel schedule, we know
they don't travel um outside the Central time zone. Baltimore
traveled I think one hour away. Other than that, everything
is in the Central time Zone or the Eastern time Zone, like,
they don't travel past that. So everything seemed to be
lining up for Baltimore to have a really good regular season,
(01:49:48):
but it's these games and until they win these games,
people look at it and go, that's nice, but yeah,
what does it do for us? We know, we know
you're a good regular season team. We get it. So
it's just it'll be interesting to see how this is,
how this plays out the rest of this game, because
I do think this game is much more important for
Baltimore than I do New England. A Ladies and gentlemen,
(01:50:09):
enough of me and enough of the Ravens and enough
of the New England Patriots. I present to you a
man who started out calling Iowa Minnesota and has now
found himself in a plane on the tarmac somewhere in
South Florida. And in between he dabbled in Big newon Kickoff,
(01:50:30):
And in between that, he dabbled in a nine am
kickoff on Fox Sports One between U C. L A
and Cal none other than the Pride of Dublin, Ohio,
Brady Quinn. My man Jonah said, has always thank you
for the warm welcome. Do you think any would watch
that game this morning, like like maybe a few minutes
of that game before I did the NFL kicked off.
(01:50:53):
I did, Yeah, But but that's because you're you're a
loyal You're a loyal fan, You're a loyal friend. But mean,
I just want to tell you this, and this would
bother me. And I was actually gonna text you this,
but I didn't want to throw you off with you
because you know, you can be a little bit of
a red ass when you're calling games. Um, here's here's
what bothers me. U c l A s punter is
(01:51:13):
the son of David Acres. Right, so all right, why
the hell did he get number nine? If I was
a defensive lineman, that would piss me off. Unfortunately, due
to the circumstances with COVID, we didn't have the opportunity
to ask such a question. I will make sure though,
(01:51:34):
if I got another U c l A game, I
will ask him. You know why he did not choose
that number? Hey, so nine am kickoff? I asked you
about this. You've never been a part of a nine
a that early of a kickoff anytime when you're a
football career, have you? Well, I mean maybe outside of
pewee football. I mean I think pewee football used to
play really early, like nine am. But yeah, I mean
(01:51:55):
not not since then. And usually you know, when you're
like eight nine years old, right, your parents are waking
you up probably at seven thirty seven o'clock to go
to player nine nine m game. You're not getting up
at five thirty to go, you know, eat breakfast and
go play a game and nine am. It's typically not
how it works, but yeah, it was. It was the
first for me, like I guess, professionally broadcasting and then
(01:52:17):
playing professional football. Are you a fan of it? Did
you like the fact that you got done with the
game and it was like twelve thirty one o'clock or
or do you prefer are you a little bit old
school and traditional and that you'd like to go back
to a little later kickoff if you're gonna call games again. Um,
it really didn't matter so much to me. I mean,
I think one of the things that was interesting is
if you look out, you still dominated that game. Maybe
(01:52:39):
a portion of their slow start because they did have
a pun blog. They did kind of get off the
slow start count, took a three nothing lead, and then
they really found the rhythm. Maybe it was the early
start time, I'm not sure. I mean, again, this game,
it was supposed to be a late night game, like
a seven thirty pm Eastern start, and originally first U
saw and then they go to a night kick on
(01:53:00):
on Sunday, So it wasn't like they were preparing for
that early start. In comparison to the USC and Arizona State,
who played Week one for the pack, well, both those
teams the week leading up, we're both preparing for that
start time. Alright, So now you have, you've landed, Are
you still in the plane? Are you at where are
you specifically right now here? As we talked to Brady
(01:53:21):
Quinn on Fox Sports Radio, I'm in my car driving home. Okay,
very good, alright, So so not as dramatic as I
made it out to be, No, not even close. In fact,
what you said was a lie. I was not even
on the tar back at that point. I was already
in my car. So well, because you remember one week
you called the game and you couldn't join and do
(01:53:41):
the show because there was like a flight delay, and
you actually called us while you were walking through the
airport next to the smoking section and there were a
bunch of a bunch of people with heaters in the
smoking section at the airport. So I was trying to paint,
you know, a little bit different picture, but apparently it
was nothing even close to what I was doing. Yeah,
there was a lot of people with some some you know,
(01:54:04):
loose ambitions, if you know what I mean. Yeah, my favorite,
my favorite kind of people. That's that's what that's my
type of crowd. Now, now, Brady Quinn, I don't know
how long the community is home, but you know, we
have to take a break here and we are clock guys.
So would you like to would you like to join
us in the next segment or do you just want
to say goodbye to this show and tell us to
go screw ourselves here on National Road? No? No, I look,
(01:54:26):
I wish I could have worked tonight show with you.
I feel bad, you know, leave you stranded. Feel like
it's almost like Lamar Jackson's wide receivers they in the
way they leave him branded or something past. I don't
want to let you down. I feel like I feel
like you're Lamar Jackson and I'm a Baltimore Ravens wide receiver. Right, Okay, alright,
fair enough, alright, So so we will we will put
you on hold or you can just call back whatever
(01:54:48):
whatever you prefer, and uh, and we can we can
continue this conversation if you don't mind here in the
next break or in the next segment, you know mind
all right, Sarious Jonas knocks Brady Quinn here on Fox
Sports Radio from the getic Fox Sports Radio Studios. All right,
coming up next, We're going to ask Brady Quinn the
most important question ever asked on sports radio. In the
(01:55:08):
very next segment, we got the proof here on FSR.
Jonas knocks Brady Quinn here on Fox Sports Radio from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up in we'll
call to a little over ten minutes from now here
on fs ARE you are going to hear from two
(01:55:28):
very very very happy NFL fans. And it feels like
I'm saying this every single week because the Dolphins and
the Raiders are stacking up wins. Chris Plank, die hard
Raider fan, Arnie Spaniard, die hard Miami Dolphin fan. They
will be joining you here coming up a little over
ten minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio. A
(01:55:50):
man who has been all over the country. He was
calling Iowa and Minnesota on Friday night. He did Big
newon Kickoff on Saturday. Then he was calling U C.
L A and Cal Brady quin who was just landed.
He is literally stepping off the plane as we speak
getting that right, Brady Quinn, that that is that is
not right, That is actually nowhere close to the truth.
I'm already home. So yeah, so he's already home. But
(01:56:13):
he did, he did call in and he's gonna hang
out with us here for a few minutes on Fox
Sports Radio. By the way, Hey, how about the damn
Patriots beating the Ravens at their own game? Brady Quinn,
what do you go at this? This is a fun
I mean, I'm into this. Well, first off, it's always
it's always fun to watch an upset. I mean, the
Patriots were seven point home dog. I'm always suspect of that,
(01:56:36):
especially Bill Belichick home underdog. You're kidding me. The thing is,
you know, Baltimore has never really gotten their passing attack going,
and everyone kind of blames Lamar j accident and he's
at fault for some of the throws. But this group
of wide receivers around him has to improve their route running,
has to improve this overall that they're they're catching. There's
a number of drops. I know, the conditions play a
(01:56:58):
factor in that type. That's been the case this entire season.
So well, let's not point all the blame Lamar Jackson.
And let's look at Greg Roman too. You have an
athletic quarterback, maybe the most dynamic we've ever seen in
the NFL, and on fourth down he went the wildcat
play with J K. Dobbins. Can you explain that to me?
I mean, did he give you a better path Lamar
(01:57:20):
Jackson does at the quarterback spot? I mean as well?
Um le. So this is I actually thought, and I'm
starting to reconsider my original opinion on this because when
Lamar Jackson came out on the Rich Eyes and Show
this week and he said that you know, uh, they
know what plays are coming and defensively they're calling out plays.
I didn't look at that as him taking a shot
(01:57:42):
at Greg Roman or the offense. I looked at it
is more him being brutally honest about where they were
at and maybe being more self critical that he's not
doing a better job throwing the football. Was he taking
a shot at Greg Roman? Was that him taking a
shot at the offense or was he just being a
little bit too honest in an interview. No, I don't
know he's taking a shot. I think he's being honest,
(01:58:05):
and I think he's trying to tell why you know,
he feels like there's offenses struggles and it's and it's
kind of leading to something that he's not going to
outright to stay because it puts them in a tough spot.
But the reality is this offense has become a little
bit predictable. Let's just look at the Patriots tonight. Uh
They've run what a double pass with Jacobe Meyers dropping
(01:58:25):
a dime direct Burkehead. I mean, can we get a
little bit of that we saw earlier today with the
build they were on a quarterback throwback to Josh Allen
he hits in the end zone. When's the last time
we saw that from Greg Roman and and and and
all seriousness, Like I'm not even joking now, Like for
for a guy who was so dynamic and so athletic,
you know, when's the last time be seen anything creative
like that this season? So, um, it's I think there's
(01:58:48):
there's there's definitely truth to it, But the reality is,
you know, he still needs to clean up his fundamentals
of scot work at times, um, before he can really
pour the finger anyone else. Brady quint I swear to God,
I find myself rooting for the Patriots this year. Every game,
I'm rooting for them and Cam Newton and I want
(01:59:09):
him to do well. I swear to God that Sunday
night game against Seattle, I don't know anybody that wasn't
hoping Cam Newton was going to score from the one.
Like every every week they're on, I'm rooting for the Patriots.
I felt terrible for Cam Newton when he fumbled the
ball late against Buffalo. And I don't know what. I
don't know if it's just that, you know, Belichick is
trying to piece this thing together. Cam Newton's playing for
(01:59:29):
a million dollars and change. Um, you know when when
quarterbacks with you know, Marcus Mariote I think is making
seven million a year backing up Derek Carr. I just
I want New England to do well. I know that's
probably in the minority because they've been so dominant, but
I really want them to do the wall this year.
I'm rooting for him. I really am. No, I'm with you.
I mean, I think it's fun to watch when when
Bill Belichick and you kind of overcome some of the circumstances.
(01:59:52):
You know, when Combredy went down, Matt Castle came in
that season or even for the four game suspension, like
they're just something about you know, that group, the way
they play, and even Cam just his journey, you know,
and then how hard he works. I mean, he makes
it very evident to everyone. But that being said, you know,
he works his tail off. He's worked his tail off
to get back, so everyone loves to come back. And
(02:00:13):
I'm right there with you. I am right there with you. Um.
So as we close up shop here, we got about
thirty to forty five seconds left, Brady quinn um talk
about two bad beats in the NFL. Nick Chubb decides
to go out at the one yard line. If you
had the Browns minus minus three and three and a half, Honestly,
Brooks was here that you're carving that into into your ceiling.
(02:00:34):
And then if you add the Arizona Cardinals minus two
and a half and Kyler Murray takes a knee instead
of kicking the extra point after that, Hail Mary, what
a brutal set of circumstances for for a sports gambler,
anybody who had those two teams. I love how you're
you're not even acknowledging the ridiculous catcher was by Hopkins.
I mean, are you kidding me? Who cares about that?
(02:00:56):
We're talking about sports betting here? Who cares? DeAndre Hopkins
made a catch. It's what he gets paid to do.
Look good for you you made. You made a grab
over some you know, defensive backs that are shorter than you.
I'm not celebrating that. We should be talking about the
guy that got screwed over who had money on the
Cardinals minus two and a half. It's terrible priorities, Brady,
I'm telling you man, all right, listen, babe, job well done,
(02:01:18):
and I mean that in all seriousness. You hustled this weekend.
We're proud of you, we miss you, we love you,
and we'll do this again next week. What do you say?
It sounds good. I'll see you next week, all right,
Jonas Stocks here on Fox Sports Trader. This has been
a fun one. Arnie Span your Chris plank Our, next
for Bobo, for Lead de Lap, Steve to Sager and myself.
Thanks for hanging out. Keep it locked here on Fox
(02:01:38):
Sports Radio and as always, on the I Heart Radio app.
