Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. What's up? It's that
time again, Jason Martin Show, Fox Sports Radio. Wherever you
happen to be, We're glad you're with us. You're part
of our family here. You can find me on Twitter
at j mart Radio. I'm in Nashville, Tennessee. I do
the show out of the Fox Sports Radio studios. Here.

(00:23):
The crew, Christopher Fett, Brian Fendley, and Ryan Burshing are
there are out in Cali, out in Sherman Oaks handling
it from the Fox Sports Radio studios out there. A
whole lot to get to on this morning's program. There's
still two more games to be played to determine who
is headed to Green Bay and whether or not somebody

(00:44):
has headed to Buffalo or someone will be headed to
Kansas City. That's someone being the Buffalo Bills. We'll talk
about the two games that were played on Saturday, as
well as the ones that are to come. We'll talk
about new coaching hires and then National Football League, some
very intriguing ones to say the least. I want to

(01:07):
talk about one division a little bit later on and
a larger trend that I'm noticing across TV. And streaming.
That's a real positive, I think, and I think we
could all use the positivity quite frankly. But let's do
start with the NFL, and we'll start with Saturday. I
need to just open up right now and take an out.

(01:34):
I was wrong about Matt Lafleur. I was incorrect based
on the information that I had when he was here.
I wasn't impressed with what he did his one year
with the Tennessee Titans as the offensive coordinator. I didn't
understand why there was some giant rush to go hire
Matt Lafleur to be a head coach I did. I
wasn't impressed. I didn't see all that much here. I

(01:55):
didn't like the way Derrick Henry was used. I didn't
like almost anything I was saying. I was also already
out on Marcus Mariota, so there's something to be said
for that being part of this equation as well. But
I was told Matt Lafleur is just a wonderful interview
great interview shows up really prepared and he can while
you in that spot. I said, okay, Well, I mean

(02:17):
if interviews win games, then fine, But I didn't see it,
and I certainly didn't understand why he was the first
guy that got hired during that cycle. That year, the
seven guys were hired Zach Taylor because he knew Sean McVeigh,
and Cliff Kingsbury because he had Sean McVeigh in his phone,
and Matt Lafleur who had worked with Sean McVeigh. That

(02:40):
whole deal, Matt Lafleur has made Aaron Rodgers smile on
the football field. I saw it all afternoon yesterday. I
saw it all season long after that little kerfuffle you
heard about before he started in his first season last

(03:02):
year with the team, where it was like, okay, well,
is he gonna be super stubborn here and forced Aaron
Rodgers to do exactly what he wants him to do
or is there going to be some kind of a synergy.
I was a little worried about. It's just like, I
don't know who this guy thinks he is, because again,
track record wasn't all that deep, so I thought I

(03:23):
would be right about this. But I've said before that
when you get it wrong, you just gotta you gotta
own up to it. I can't just stick with the
same take over and over it again. When the evidence
goes the opposite direction. I mean, that's that's hypocritical. It's
also just dumb. There's a lot of people that come
on the radio in all different facts. It's whether it's

(03:45):
sports or politics or anything else, any opinion based. They're
just gonna stick to their opinion no matter what it
is that the evidence shows. But I'm not gonna do that.
I was just flat out dead wrong about Matt Lafleur. Now,
I didn't believe in Mike McCarthy, and I did think
that McCarthy had squandered a good bit of Aaron Rodgers career.

(04:07):
I was on record about that. It was just okay, well,
now you've brought in somebody else, and so Aaron Rodgers
gonna finish his career with one super Bowl at age forty.
Mattlin Floor comes in the Green Bay Packers go thirteen
and three. I wasn't impressed with the team overall because
I didn't think Aaron Rodgers was firing on all cylinders
last year. So I wasn't surprised when they got dropped

(04:29):
in the playoffs this year at three, six and six.
His two seasons, his two regular seasons with the Green
Bay Packers and what I saw yesterday against the Rams
defense that even though Donald was banged up at times,
the Rams defense was number one in the league entering

(04:51):
that game, and we saw what they had done to
Seattle in an incredibly boarding football game the week before.
So it was number one offensive, number one defense, and
offense carried the day. Yeah they were at home, and
yeah there were fans at Lambeaux, and yeah it was cold,
not for Lambeau cold, but it was still pretty chilly
in both of these games. Next week is gonna be

(05:12):
a lot colder in Lambeau for either of the Saints
or the Buccaneers. But Aaron Rodgers is just dealing and
Davante Adams is the best receiver on the planet if
Stefon Diggs isn't. And they have an unbelievable run game,
and their defense has really picked it up, and are

(05:33):
they're playing well. They've got some young guys that are
really impressive out there. Mason Crosby's numbers are outrageous this season.
The reason why I mentioned Mason Crosby is because it
is where I'm going here. I think the Green Bay
Packers are the most complete team in the National Football League.
I picked Kansas City to beat Green Bay in the

(05:54):
Super Bowl. When Fox Sports Radio asked all the hosts
for their picks just prior to the playoffs starting, pre
see and I picked the Chiefs to beat the Saints.
I think Green Bay is gonna come out of the NFC,
and I feel even better about it after watching what
we saw yesterday. The Packers are what did you tell me?
Wherever it is that you're listening right now, you can

(06:15):
tweet me at j Mart Radio. What is it that
the Packers don't do well? What's the facet of the
product that they are putting out on the field where
their subpar damn Ster is not the quarterback, It's not
the running back position, whether it's Williams or whether it's Jones.

(06:37):
They're getting it done, flat out getting it done. It's
not even the receivers. Yeah, Lizard is not the greatest name,
and MVS is still just kind of coming into his own.
It doesn't get better than seventeen, though, then get better
than Davante Adams. Tanyan has been great at tight end
for them. They're old line. Even losing box tr which

(06:57):
was a huge loss, their old line is holding up.
How about the defense, the two Smiths are playing out
of their minds. They were just terrorizing Jared Goff on Saturday.
The secondary making place, whether it was Guy or Alexander,

(07:18):
the safeties, everybody out there is just doing work. Already
told you about Crosby's numbers on the season. I don't
think he missed it all during a regular season, and
he's still perfect now. The play calls are great, the
offense is great. Everything is rolling. What I saw on Saturday,

(07:43):
the green Bay Packers man handled the Ramps like. The
game wasn't particularly exciting, but it was just it was
like I was watching a timeless football team, Like Green
Bay was doing new things, but it also looked like
they could have won that game with the same roster
doing actually the same thing twenty five years ago. They

(08:03):
were running it effectively. Rogers hit a couple of big throws,
but outside of that, he just kind of It wasn't
a dink and dunk attack. It was just methodical and surgical.
They had the clock in their favor continuously. They were
always ahead of the chains. It was so dominant. And

(08:31):
you take the rams and you take Cooper Cup out
of that game. He wasn't available, and that offense didn't
look the same at all. I thought cam Akers played
his played his guts out, and I thought Golf played well. Also.
We'll talk a little bit about golf later on in
the program, but this is larger here because what I'm
looking at with green Bay makes me think maybe I

(08:51):
should have taken the Packers to win the Super Bowl.
But maybe I'm gonna feel differently after I watched the
Chiefs today against the Browns. But you tell me who's
playing better than green Bay and who was playing better
entering the playoffs than green Bay. The way they beat
Tennessee at home on Sunday Night football and didn't just
beat them, I mean it, they they looked like they

(09:12):
were a step above just crushing teams. And it never
felt like even though the score at times was pretty
close in this game, it never felt close. It always
felt like I could tune out and go to whatever

(09:34):
other channel was out there for a couple of minutes.
I didn't have to sit there and watch all four
quarters in every synap of this game, because I knew
what the story of this game is gonna be pretty
early when it got seventeen three or sixteen to three,
I guess because of the miss. Afterwards, I immediately just thought, okay,

(09:59):
ball game, and congrats to the Rams for coming back
and fighting. They were able to do what they did
right before the half, and again I thought Golf played
an admiral football, admirable football game, but it didn't matter.
Green Bay is on another level right now. Like I

(10:19):
was thinking about who's gonna go to Lambeau next week
and beat them, I don't think Saints have a prayer
of going to Lambau and beat them if the Bucks
get through. There's one factor that you might look at
and think, and it's not because of tom Brady's record
or anything like that. It's simply that Tom Brady is

(10:39):
used to playing in cold weather in the playoffs, so
he's not going to be thrown off by that if
we're sitting at zero degrees next week or something, if
it snows. He's won playoff games, championship games in the snow,
so he's gonna be better. I think for that breeze,

(11:00):
going into that cold temperature at his age, that team
is not used to it. I I do not feel
I feel a lot better about the pick that I
made for Fox before the playoffs started than I do
the one that I made before the season, because I
think the Packers will beat the Saints. Camara might have
a big time game and that might be enough to
get it done. I just I do not think Drew

(11:22):
Brees that lambeau Field goes well for them. Next week's
first time Aaron Rodgers will have ever hosted an NFC
championship game in his career, which I was kind of
stunned by when I thought about it. They've all been
on the road the other times that he's had his opportunities.
But this Screen Bay team, it's well coached, it's well run.

(11:45):
The offense it's just so smooth. I don't know how
you stop it consistently because of the way that they
can balance you. I mean, they effortless, effortlessly hit nearly
five yards in this game. They just dominated. And I

(12:07):
looked at that and I was just like, well, who
beats them? Maybe Tom Brady if they get through, because
the Bucks have a really solid defense, just like Saints do.
But I trust that Bucks offense more than I do
the Saints in that in those conditions. In particular, another
guy that used to playing in cold weather that places
for Tampa Bay is Antonio Brown A B is used

(12:28):
to Pittsburgh Weather, and he's playing his share of playoff
games as well this time of year. So those are
just a couple of guys I look at and think
that makes sense. The Saints don't make sense to me
going to Green Bay, but I don't know if they're
gonna have to worry about it anyway. We'll do our
picks at the end of the show on those two games,

(12:49):
and we'll break down those two games in greater detail
in segments prior. But I came away just so impressed
with Green Bay. I don't know about you, and so
I wanted to lead off and just flat out say, hey,
I was wrong on the floor, I was wrong whatever
was he said in the interview. Green Bay made a

(13:09):
great higher because he has rejuvenated not just Aaron Rodgers
play on the field. He's rejuven rejuvenated Aaron Rodgers heart.
He's rejuvenated Aaron Rodgers love for playing football. There were
times when we looked like Aaron Rodgers hated everything when
McCarthy was coaching those last few years. He looks like

(13:31):
he's five years younger right now on the field, and
we know he's nearer he's nearer to the end of
his career than anything else. But La Fleur has put
a bounce in a step, and I think that's I
think that right there makes it not just a good higher,
but a great higher to thirteen and three seasons coming
in there. They haven't done that great with the draft.

(13:53):
If they could get some weaponry to go along with
some of these guys, if they get some depth, maybe
they can upgrade a couple of the receivers underneath Adams
a bit man, but they're right now, right now, nobody
is playing better than the Green Bay Packers. When we
come back, Lamar Jackson, the good, the bad, and the

(14:15):
ugly from the Baltimore Ravens loss to the Buffalo Bills,
we'll look at that one in detail, even though unfortunately
that game did not live up to what I hoped
it was going to. But the Lamar Jackson conversation is
the one that we have to have, and it's the
one that we will have next. We are live in

(15:19):
Ravens are out of the playoffs with a loss in
Buffalo on Saturday, and we know what the narrative is
gonna be. Lamar got the at least he was able

(15:39):
to pull down some of this last week when you
beat Tennessee. Now it loses to Buffalo and it's Lamar lost.
Jared Gos said something really interesting, and it wasn't that
he said it yesterday. He said it in an interview
that was then mentioned on air by the Fox crew
that called Rams Packers about Jared gold. I don't know

(16:01):
if it's Muse Johnson or Kevin Burkhards who actually intimated it,
but Jared Goff was asked about the criticism that he's
taken and about how he tries to deal with it,
and uh, he says, you know, none of that really
sticks to me. I've just kind of figured it out.
When we lose, it's all my fault, and when we win,

(16:24):
I had nothing to do with it. And then he
laughed after that. So, yeah, it probably does bother him.
And I'm sure this bothers Lamar Jackson. Nobody had more
pressure on them last week than Lamar, But it seems
like nobody week after week has more pressure on them
than Lamar Jackson. And it's because of the many paragraphs
and many tweets that have been written trying to unmake

(16:48):
Lamar Jackson a thing in the NFL. I didn't think
Lamar was gonna work out particularly well in the National
Football League, and I think to some degree the jury
is still out on and this version of the ravens Now.
Let me explain what I mean here. I think you
can win with Lamar Jackson. I think you can win

(17:10):
a Super Bowl with Lamar Jackson. I don't think you
when you can win with the weaponry that they're currently
putting out there. And I don't think you can win
as long as it's Greg Roman who gives you like
five passing plays, super basic, written in crayon, and that's

(17:31):
supposed to be what you're doing in This was a
ten three ball game before it basically came to an end,
a very lengthy drive that really felt like the Ravens
were starting to get things moving here. This is a

(17:52):
slow moving game. Defenses were making plays, but guys were airmailing.
Both Lamar and Josh Allen airmailing rows, deep throws that
could have been touchdowns. Huntley, who came in for Lamar
after the concussion, also airmailed one that would have been
a guarantee touchdown to Hollywood Brown. And who knows what

(18:13):
happens if they get to seventeen ten, but they never did.
But let's just go through this because I think it's important.
It started with nine minutes and twenty nine seconds left
in the third. The first down play Hollywood Brown seven yards,
a little short pass, second down in three, Dobbins for

(18:35):
five first down and ten at the thirty seven Dobbins
for two second and eight. Lamar finds andrews the tight
end for fourteen another first down, and that was a
nice play. First attend on the forty seven. Another pass
to Andrews just a one yard or they're kind of
a bail out play. Second nine. A sack by Jerry Hughes,

(18:59):
law four. Third down in thirteen, Jackson fifteen yards. Scramble
keeps it alive. First down in ten, now at the
buffalo thirty five. Gus Edwards gets a yard. Second down
in nine. Willie Snead gets eight yards on a pass
from Jackson. Third down in one. Gus Edwards gets that yard.

(19:20):
He needs get some refresh, set of downs. It's twenty
five yard line with three minutes left in the third quarter.
Still a ten three ball game. Now just outside the
red zone. Lamar Willie sneed nine yards. Now we're in
the red zone. Second and one at the sixteen. Dobbins
to the ten, gets six yards, first and goal Buffalo

(19:42):
ten yard line. Lamar Jackson to the buffalo fourteen. Because
he fumbled the ball, it was a loss of four.
He recovered it is able to pick that thing up.
He gets pushed out of bounds at the nine yard line.
S can down and goal from the nine incomplete to Brown.

(20:03):
Hughes put pressure on him. Third down and goal from
the Buffalo nine with forty one seconds left in the
third quarter to Ron Johnson one hundred in one yard
interception returned for touchdown as Lamar threw it right to
him in the end zone. Two plays later, when Baltimore
got the ball, Lamar was hit in the end zone,

(20:27):
slammed the back of his head against the ground and
that was the end of his night because he was
putting concussion protocol and then was ruled out. You want
to talk about the highest of the highs and the
lowest of the lows. That drive looks so good from
Baltimore staying alive on third downs a couple of different times.

(20:51):
They were able to convert a third and thirteen at
midfield to keep it alive, and that was behind Jackson
running the football and then it was over, and then
it was over. Lamar didn't play great in this game,
but it's not all on him. The passing attack for

(21:16):
the Ravens was thirty second in the NFL by every
analytics statistic and just the pure numbers. Hollywood Brown dropped
a lot of balls early. He started playing better late
in the season. They ended up having to grab Dez
Bryant because they just had no deep threat to be

(21:38):
found anywhere, so they grabbed a guy who hadn't played
in three seasons and he was able to make a
couple of plays for him. They have a top five
tight end in Andrews, but he's not a guy that
stretches the field. He's much more of a possession, older
style tight end than kind of the New Veaux stuff
that we're seeing now in the NFL. And then, of
course the run games. A run game and run games great.
Baltimore's run game is outstanding, but it's all they've got,

(22:01):
and it's not because the quarterback can't throw. He's never
gonna be Drew Brees in terms of seventy four completion
percentage or something like that, but he can get the
job done. Greg Roman, as an offensive coordinator, I think
did more to handcuff the passing attack then Lamarck ever

(22:22):
could do. So. If you are looking at this and
thinking this is another indicator of what Lamar can't do,
I don't think it is. I think it's an indicator
that it might actually be time to jettison Greg Roman
and bringing another offensive coordinator because you can't continue to
beat this against the wall again. We've seen this now

(22:44):
two years in a row. It doesn't work. It works
to get you to the playoffs. It might even win
a game, but you run against too much opposition where
you've got to be able to do more. Then the
Ravens playbook allows them to. Lamar is going to be

(23:06):
the storyline, just like Jared Goff said, He's gonna be
the storyline, win or lose, except for the fact that
when they win, it's just well, golf played all right,
But did you see Aaron Donald? Did you see Jalen Ramsey?
Even now? Did you see the way cam Akers ran
the ball? What great catches from Cooper Cup and Robert Woods.

(23:30):
You forget about the quarterback when it lose. Oh man,
they would win if they had just had a competent quarterback.
That's sort of the curse of being the quarterback. It's
always gonna be that way, especially for guys where there's
a bit of a knock on them. So what were
you seeing all across Twitter as the Ravens were going
down the Lamar stuff? You were seeing some people defend him,

(23:56):
and then you were seeing a lot of people say
this confirms what we already thought was true about him.
I don't think it does. I don't think he's ever
going to be the most prolific pastor in the world.
And even when colins Worth was trying to argue he
was a great pocket passer at Louisville, I mean, okay, bro,

(24:17):
dudes are a lot more open in college than they
are in the pros. He's not an elite passer, and
that's fine. You do have to tailor your offense a
little bit differently, and you should because you've got to
take advantage of this other worldly thing he does in
a way we've never seen anybody do it with quarterback
spot maybe Michael Vick, but just in terms of the

(24:40):
pure speed of Lamar Jackson, I mean, the forty eight
yard run last week against the Titans was absolutely ridiculous.
I knew many people that were at that game basically
said we didn't have any idea how fast he was
until we actually saw him in person doing that. You

(25:00):
can win with that, dude. I don't think you can
win with Greg Roman as this oc anymore because I
think that that that movie is already out, like we've
seen it. We all own it. Man. They put Under
Woman on HBO Max. We saw it maybe we thought
it was trash. Either way, we've seen it. Now we
need to see something else the same episodic TV, So

(25:21):
we need somebody that has a new movie. Greg Roman
has written the same script three or four times and
put it out as a sequel, depending on the quarterback.
It's always kind of the same. I think it has
fizzled now. I think it has. It has reached its end.
It certainly has shown success, but it's not gonna win

(25:43):
the super Bowl. Got to bring in somebody that can
that can expand this thing out. And yeah, they do
need to do some personnel stuff here. Dobbin's fantastic, Edwards fantastic.
The way they run the ball, you'd like it. Andrews

(26:03):
very very good. Hollywood Brown a good number two receiver,
but you gotta get a number one. Some of those
other guys, I mean they're out there, but you look
at Lamar Jackson had to be on the sidelines watching
Josh Allen and more importantly, watching his top target, Stefon
Diggs and saying, man, I wish I had one of those.

(26:25):
If they were watching before, if they were watching the
game before, watching Aaron Rodgers throwing to Davante Adam saying, man,
I wish I had one of those. While Lamar is
not playing today and now his season's over and he
might be watching the two games that are being played.
He's looking at Tom Brady throwing to Mike Evans. He's
looking at Drew Brees throwing to Michael Thomas. He's looking

(26:47):
at Patrick Mahomes throwing to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey
and he's like, man I wish I had one of those.
He's even looking at Baker Mayfield throwing to Jarvis Landry
and he's saying, boy, I wish I have one of those.
That's the number one thing Baltimore has got to address

(27:08):
outside of the playbook, the play makers or lack thereof
in the past game. The difference between the Packers of
old and the Packers now is that they have a
balanced attack. It's pick your poison. That's the best thing
that you can possibly hear about your football team if
you're a fan of that team, is when you play us,
you pick your poison. If you've got a good passing attack,

(27:31):
but you also have a good rushing attack, then you're rolling.
Then you're in really, really, really good shape. Baltimore was
still a one pronged assault, and I don't think it's
on the quarterback. Some of it maybe, And yeah, you've
got to put him in the right situations for him
to be able to pass the ball effectively, but he
wasn't in those situations this year. I don't think you

(27:51):
could have watched the Baltimore Ravens at all this year
and thought of that. My guy Josh Schwartz, my friend
and our colleague here at Fox Sports Trade it was saying,
and it's hard to watch this Baltimore offense. Every yard
looked hard, absolutely right. It looked like a major struggle
session out there for the Baltimore Ravens, and I hate
that it ended the way that it did for Lamar

(28:12):
with the concussion, not even being being able to finish
that game. Next year becomes a big time prove it year,
though unfortunately, eventually you're gonna have to pay Lamar where
You've got to figure out what you're gonna do long term.
I'm telling you, if Greg Roman is back and he
doesn't at least go home and add five or six
pages to the playbook, we're gonna run this right back

(28:35):
next year and they're still gonna be watching somebody else
in the championship game, if not the divisional round, if
not the wild card, because that had not been for
the schedule they played in the back six games, they
probably don't even make the playoffs. Let's bring in Brian Finley.
Let's get a look at what's going on in the world.
Oh sports, b what's going on? Yeah, Jason? Speaking of
Lamar Jackson, a turnover from him seal the Ravens fates

(28:59):
in Saturday as a f C divisional game. Jackson back
to throw, comes in into the end zone, intercepted two
yards deep in the end zone, intercepted by tarn Johnson,
and he brings it out. He may go all the way.
He's at the Baltimore forty ten five touchdown. Bill's Radio
Network with the energetic call, the touchdown and the extra

(29:21):
point afterwards would make it seventeen to three Buffalo. That
would be the final score with violent wins factoring into
this game. In fact, Jackson later on after throwing the touchdown,
excuse me, the pick six had a snap sail over
him and as he was trying to chase the ball
down and avoid his safety, took a shot to the
head forced him out. Of the contests with a concussion.

(29:44):
Josh Allen had one touchdown pass he found Sefon Diggs
for the score, who finished with over one hundred yards receiving. Earlier,
the Packers stonewall the Rams thirty to eighteen and NFC
Divisional action, green Bay taking control by scoring on his
first five possession, Aaron Rodgers connecting on two touchdown tosses,
including one to Alan Lazard for fifty eight yards. The

(30:06):
other was a one yard or to Davonte Adams. Jared
Goff was sacked four times, he threw one t d
Sean McVeigh, and the postgame pressure was asked if Goff
is his starting quarterback moving forward, and McVeigh simply replied,
Goff is the quarterback right now, which raises some questions
for the future. Discover the matches all the cash back

Back to our guy, Jason Martin appreciated Brian. This from

(31:12):
Scott Kazmar Football Outsiders. Ravens have scored twenty plus points
in thirty seven of forty one starts for Lamar Jackson,
and his career thirty seven forty one of those four
where they have failed to score twenty a f C
wild card versus the Chargers, they put up seventeen last

(31:34):
year's AFC Divisional Round the loss to the Titans. They
put up twelve last night in the Divisional round at Buffalo,
three points in the three quarters that he played. They
never led in any one of those games. The other loss,
by the way, it was seventeen game to the Patriots
in the rain, so there was one in the regular season.
The other three came into playoffs. He finishes that tweet

(31:58):
by saying fair or not, it's a pad And now
here's the pattern that offense, when it runs into talented
opposition often can't match it. Once you get to the playoffs,
you hear running the football and defense. That's how you

(32:19):
get to the super Bowl. That's what you used to hear. Well,
they run the ball. Martindale's defense played well, they scored
three points. They probably were about to score that touchdown
before the pick six, and yeah, the pick six changes everything.
But yeah, the three of the four times they haven't

(32:40):
hit the twenty mark we're playoff games. Lamar has gotten
that one win in the playoffs. Now next year you're
gonna have to expect to see more if you're a
Baltimore fan or if you're somebody in that front office.
Fair or unfair, A lot of that's gonna fall on Lamar.
But again, and I'm gonna make this point one more time,

(33:02):
I don't think Greg Roman did a very good job
this year as offensive coordinator. I was baffled when pff
W Pro Football Focus put him in their top eight
play callers at mid season. Baffled by it. Then they
played an awful schedule in the last five or six weeks,
and it turned around and then, oh, they figured something out.

(33:23):
I mean, how much do they figure out? Do you
see that? Did you see that game last night? I
see something. I saw The reason they got three, The
reason they moved the ball at all was because of
of Lamar when some of the just crazy sorcery he
was pulling out. But you gotta make it so it's
not so hard for I get it, he can go
through the double Dare obstacle. Course, but let's uh, let's

(33:47):
make it just a hair easier for him if we can.
That's our job as an offensive coordinator. Last time I checked.
Speaking of which, when we come back, I mentioned were
there right there. Let's talk about that Nickelodeon performance from
last week. Those that were hating on it, I would

(34:07):
say they need to grow up, But really they just
need to rediscover a little bit of fun in their lives.
I might have been that guy three or four years ago.
I was trying to poop poo that thing, to take
the phrase straight from Rob Parker, but no, I had
too much fun with it. We'll talk a little bit
about that when we come back. Then we're gonna start
to start to pivot just a bit to the NBA.

(34:29):
I want to talk about this Brooklyn Nets team. I
want to talk about Deshaun Watson. I want to talk
about Urban Meyer. I want to talk about Robert Sala,
I want to talk about Arthur Smith. I want to
talk about one Division, and I want to talk about
the two games are gonna be played today. That just
gives you a road mapp but where we're headed over
the next two hours. Stick with us Jason Martin Show

The Bear Saints game stunk interesting interestingly, Actually, so far

(35:53):
the playoffs have kind of stunk, like Superwalk Card weekend.
We've got six games, but how many of them were good?
You could argue maybe just one. I was intrigued by
the heinicky storyline in the Washington game with Tampa Bay,
and I thought that Tennessee Baltimore was pretty intriguing. But

(36:15):
generally other than Indie Buffalo have been that good. Do
you realize that in this postseason we've now gone through
eight games to see a lead change in the second

(36:37):
half since and that's never happened since the wild Card
round was introduced in which was a year I was born.
It's never taken nine plus games to have a closer
decisive finish than what we've seen this year. This person,

(36:58):
Scott Kasmar again in Football Out shutters and he was
pointing out how bad this this we've seen, Like all
these offenses that we're supposed to be all these points
that we're seeing seventeen three games and things of that nature.
So there hadn't been a whole lot of scoring, and
there haven't been a lot of excitement, and we knew
the Saints Bears was probably not going to be very good,
and it wasn't very good, the garbage touchdown at the

(37:20):
end notwithstanding. But I'm glad I watched it on Nick,
and I did watch a little bit of the CBS
coverage too, but I watched mainly the Nickelodeon broadcast just
so I want to see how it was done. I
wanted to see how they tried to appeal to the
younger audience. Now, I don't know that it's succeeded in
its goal, because I imagine if you weren't a football fan,

(37:42):
I don't know that the kid is staying on Nickelodeon.
Even with all that they tried to do to make
it more kid friendly. I feel like the kids are
still gonna say, yeah, how about Baby's Shark, Yeah, how
about Minecraft or something of that nature. Maybe some watched
it with their parents, but I still think most of
the people that watched the Knick broadcast were us, the

(38:05):
adults that grew up on Nickelodeon that might have wanted
to flip the time back a bit and just have
a little bit of fun and see what they did.
And maybe they had ten or twenty thousand kids that
happened up on it stuck with it, and maybe they
grabbed some football fans out of that. I thought Nate
Burlison did an awesome job. I thought that the way

(38:26):
that they tried to do this, I thought Iron Eagle's
son did a really nice job as well. Noah, this
was different. I had somebody was just like, I wish
they had done this for a regular season game and
not a playoff game. And then I realized what he
meant that by that was he had realized the game
was also on CBS, which I found pretty amusing. He
was watching that and thought that was the actual only

(38:46):
broadcast of that playoff game. It was not. I I
found this fun. There was no curmudgeon in me at all.
The only thing that I was upset about was that
we didn't get their commercials. We still got the same garbage.
I still had to listen to that same A N T,
A T and T ad where the guy calls his
mom and it's actually some dude named Carl. We got

(39:10):
the same state farm ads. We didn't get like toy
ads and stuff like that. I kind of want to
see what's out there because I guess I'm gonna have
to start paying attention to that since I've got my
first child coming in four months. But I have fun
with this, and we needed that fun with it because
that game was not good at all. They picked a
decent one even though, Like if you had imagine if
those kids that were tuning on on Nickelodeon instead of

(39:32):
getting a twenty one nine Saints bear Snoozer got like
Chiefs rams from Monday Night Football three years ago, imagine
how many times slime cannon would have gone off. They
could have just left the slime cannons on for the
entire football game because there were so many points being scored.
All that to say, I'm hoping we're gonna get some
points today. I'm hoping Saints Bucks opens it up. I

(39:55):
know they've both got good defenses, but I want to
see it. I want to see the Browns put up
a ton of points on that Chiefs defense, and then
the Chiefs maybe still put up fifty and win the game.
I think we have the potential for that, but we
need it because the postseason hadn't been too interested. That's
one the reason I wanted to talk about Nick for
a second, because that was interesting, that was unique, and
I think it was a success. I don't know if

(40:16):
it was a success in converting new kids, but it
was a success on the face and what they tried
to do. If kids watched it, I imagine it did
work for those kids. When we come back, has anybody
ever been less routable than the Brooklyn Nets? What's up?

(40:59):
Name of the Twitter account is at j mart Radio.
You can find me there. I'm in Nashville, Tennessee. I
want to flip away from the NFL just for a
bit here to talk about the NBA, because of course
I do with this Nets trade Nets or eight and six.
They beat the Magic on Saturday. James harden debut triple

(41:20):
double had thirty two fourteen and twelve thirty two points,
fourteen assists, twelve rebounds, eight of eighteen from the floor,
three of ten from three, So not great. They're thirteen
and fifteen from the line between Harden and Kyrie. In particular,

(41:44):
how do you root for this team? Like, even if
I was a Nets fan, I would be doing this
with like nose blugs hard and quit on the Rockets.
I mean, spot the lie. I mean, do you on
me if I'm saying something out of turn here? He

(42:04):
quit on the Rockets. He's quit in playoff games when
he was playing in Houston, no matter what they tried
to do for him. And you heard Shack say this
on t NT on Thursday night about this trade, and
I was just standing applauding listening to this. What did
they not try to do for James Harden in Houston

(42:25):
for him to treat them the way that he treated
him on the way out. They brought in Dwight Howard
because he wanted him, didn't work. Brought in Chris Paul,
didn't work, don't have enough shooters. They go grab shooters.
Still didn't work with Chris Paul and the shooters. Then

(42:49):
they go get one of his best friends, Russell Westbrook,
his former teammate in Oklahoma City. They bring him over.
That's a disaster, and then he leaves him high and
dry after quitting and basically saying, I don't think there's
anything fixing this Rockets team. Makes himself toxic enough that
he can get out. And now he's in Brooklyn with

(43:10):
his former teammate Kevin Durant from Oklahoma City, and Kyrie
Irving who's taken a personal sabbatical, reportedly because he's angry
that he wasn't consulted that Steve Nash became the coach.
So I guess he's not a fan of Steve Nash
being the coach. Now we're hearing he's super excited. I
can't wait to get back to the team. Now the

(43:30):
hardens there. Remember what I told you when Durant picked
Brooklyn and Kyrie went to Brooklyn, I said, these are
two malcontents continually chasing happiness and they're just not gonna
find it. And I went back through Durant leaving Oklahoma
City and going to Golden State thinking that was gonna
complete him, and it didn't. He won rings there and

(43:51):
he won them to me. The move to Golden State
still one of the softest things I've ever seen a
great athlete, an elite level athlete like him, of the
best players in the history of the sport do. But
he still wasn't happy because the asterisk. He wasn't happy
because Draymond Green called him out in the locker room.
He wasn't happy because it was always gonna be Stephan
Curry's team, not his, regardless if he was the best player.

(44:16):
Because he was the best player, it didn't matter. The
Golden State Warriors belonged to Steph they didn't belong to Katie.
So now he goes to Brooklyn where it's never belonged
ruly to anybody. They tried that big three thing, didn't work,
so they go get Kyrie and they get Kevin Durant.
Durant has to sit out of course last year with

(44:37):
the injury. It's awesome to have him back on the floor.
I love watching him play ball. He had forty two
points last night. Every time Kyrie talks, all like him
less and then there's Harden. One thing you could almost

(44:59):
be a catch phrase for me about James Harden is
I'm never gonna pick a James Harden team to win
a championship until I've actually seen them do it, meaning
they gotta do it once, and then I might pick
him to do it the next year because I've seen
this so often. I don't care what he does in
a regular season. I don't care if he goes for
fifty every night. He won't because the basketball there's only

(45:21):
one basketball when Kyrie is back, I don't know how
it's gonna work. But more than anything else, how do
you root for this? If you're a Nets fan? Okay,
I mean I sort of understand it. But outside of that,
aren't you just rooting for chaos because that's what you anticipate? Anyway?
Is the thirty for thirty on this? In four years,

(45:45):
you are bringing three giant egos together, three ball dominant egos.
Nobody has a higher usage rate this side of Damian
Lillard in the NBA than James Harden has over the
last five of years. Durant takes a lot of shots,

(46:06):
as he should, and Kyrie likes to have the ball.
These are guys that haven't been happy and have all
moved around, and now they've all found each other. And
you look at it, your like three all Stars, three
Hall of Famers and Kyrie, James Harden and Kevin Durant.

(46:31):
Is this gonna work? And I say no. As great
as talent can be, it can only take you so
far when the personalities clash. You don't have to like
each other to win championships. Talk to Shack and Kobe
about that. At times during their Lakers run, they wish

(46:53):
they had gotten along a little bit better. Talked to
Shock and Penny Hardaway about it when it kind of
soured when Penny started getting a little bit too many
headlines for Shock's taste, which helped lead him out of Orlando.
I'm sure there are many NFL teams that have won
championships where guys hated each other. You hear stories. There's

(47:14):
quarterbacks that just aren't you know, that are just kind
of very full of themselves, and even their own teammates
struggled to deal with it. You have coaches and players
to hate each other and win championships. It can be done.
And I don't think these three guys hate each other
by any stretch. Kevin, Durant, Kyrie are best friends. But

(47:35):
I want to know what happens when it goes south,
because to some degree, all three of these guys have
done a whole lot of finger pointing and very very
little have they spent the time putting the thumb back
to themselves and saying, yeah, that one's on me. I mean,

(47:56):
Harden literally quit, do you quit? He couldn't win with
all stars that they brought in there because that style
is eventually gonna get beat in the playoffs. It just is.
It got done year after year after year after year.

(48:16):
The reason Hardon got out of there is because he realized, Okay,
we're not gonna be able to win with me here. Really,
we're not gonna be able to win with me anywhere.
That's my point. I think the attitude that he brings
is toxic enough to keep you from winning a championship.
There's a reason why people said the only team that
might be able to beat the Lakers this year is
Denver because and I made this point during the postseason

(48:40):
last year, during the summer in the bubble. Yeah, it's
fun to watch Portland and then they get into the
playoffs and they're gonna get drupped. Same thing with Utah,
same thing with all these other teams. The problem the
n b A is you've watched this long regular season,
but it really doesn't matter when you get to the
playoffs because there's only a couple of teams that are
actually gonna rise at that point in on. It's always

(49:01):
the same ones. Now, Denver had a little bit of
depth and gave the Lakers some trouble, so people were
giving them credit for what they were gonna do. But Houston,
I mean it was a done deal here. Chris Paul
experiment failed. Russell Westbrook experiment was a almost an unmitigated disaster,
and that was because both Harden and Westbrook really want

(49:23):
the ball a lot. Westbrook dealt with some injuries, Harden
wasn't in the best of shape. And then you got
again two guys that have a propensity to be irritants.
And I think that might be the best descriptor here
for what the nets are. They are made up of
three irritants and then the rest of the team. Kevin

(49:46):
Durant has become a bit of an irritant, less so
than the others. No question, Harden is an ultimately irritant.
He was an irritant in Oklahoma City before people knew
he could be an All Star, and Kyrie has been
an irritant ever since he left Durham. He was an
irritant to Lebron James. He was irritated by Lebron James.

(50:14):
He was an irritant to Boston fans because he lied
to them in their minds about being there long term.
He was an irritant to his teammates. You saw Jayson
Tatum take a step back, You saw Jalen Brown take
a step back. That team didn't look like they wanted
to play basketball. He leaves, Kemba came in and last
year they actually looked like they cared again. Then he

(50:35):
goes to Brooklyn and we really can't even look at
last year. We can only look at now because now
Durant's back, and now you've got James Harden in that mix.
So you're bringing together two irritants, if you want to say,
Durant a half irritant just because he came, he became
a little bit more frustrating to watch and listen to

(50:57):
when he was in Golden State. But I'm not really
going to include him to this degree. But I've been
racking my brain trying to think of teams that were
less likable in terms of just teams you wanted to
root for. There's something like I was thinking this over
the last two weeks watching the Bills. I'm kind of
pulling for the Bills to win it all this year.

(51:18):
I really like Kansas City, and I love watching Patrick
Mahomes play. I'm kind of pulling for the Bills. I
like the fun, I like the attitude to that team.
I like that fan base deserves something. I like how
much fun it looks like they're having playing football. I've
kind of gotten into it a little bit with my

(51:38):
guys out, my guys that make playoffs to begin with.
The local team here in Nashville is out as well,
the one that I cover on a daily basis. I'm
kind of pulling for Buffalo. The Nets are the anti
Bills there. It's like the Curmudgeons out there, and we

(52:01):
still haven't seen what this looks like. With Kyrie and
James Harden trying to coexist long term, because both of
them tend to say things they probably wish they hadn't
if they had the opportunity to take it back. Can
they win a title with this? I mean they could

(52:21):
if you just look at pure talent. But I look
at James Harden and I don't want to use the
word because it's very charged, but he's a loser. He
was Houdini in Oklahoma City in the finals against my
against the Miami Heat when they lost in five. And
by that, I don't mean he was magic. I mean

(52:43):
he disappeared. I've already laid out all the Houston's, all
the stuff that happened in Houston. Go back to the
series he lost with the Spurs one of his first
couple of years in Houston, where he sat on the
sidelines and sulked in the close out game in a
series that that Kawhi Leonard had been injured in and
wasn't even playing in at that point in time. Spurts

(53:05):
had no business winning that series, and Harden couldn't even
be bothered to care by the second half of that game.
So yeah, I know it does sound harsh, but he is.
He's a loser, and I mean on the floor this,
I don't know his character off the floor. I only
know about his act and his antics in the way

(53:27):
that he has conducted himself as a basketball player period.
That's all I'm speaking about here. The performance. All time
great scorer, but at all time great score that's a loser.
And I don't mean in the Charles Barkley mode or
the Carl Malone mode. I don't think those guys ever quit.

(53:50):
Not that they weren't irritating and controversy also, but they
played their balls off as far as I could tell,
every time out Harden has taking his ball and gone
home proverbially multiple times in his NBA career. And now
he goes to Brooklyn and they have this super team concept,

(54:11):
but they have it at the wrong time because Lebron
James is still in the league. There are better teams
that play cohesive basketball in the league. This next thing
is gonna be interesting to watch. I don't want to
see it go just awfully. I'd love to I'd love
to be wrong, because it would be awesome to see

(54:33):
these three guys just really connect, make each other better,
find that happiness they're looking for, and then just go play,
you know, seventy and twelve basketball. But they're gonna have
to show that to me because when James Harden enters
the same room as Kyrie Irving and those two guys

(54:53):
are expected to win together, and you add Kevin Durant
because both of them look at Durant and no, Durant
is better than they are, and I don't think either
one of them wants to admit that. You tell me
how this works. Right now, I do not see this
one going particularly well. We come back, I want to

(55:14):
shift gears even further. We talked a lot of NFL,
and we're gonna get back to the NFL. But next
I actually want to talk to some TV with you.
I want to talk about a trend that we're seeing
in TV I think is really really positive. Want to
put the put the pop culture to the forefront when
we come back and talk about the newest Marvel series,
wand Division, which yes it's not gonna be for everybody,

(55:35):
but it's larger than that. It's about what I've seen
in TV over the last twelve months, something that is
proving to work over and over again, and it's a
really good thing for people that like to be entertained.
Hopefully we're doing that right now. On the Jason Martin Show,
and we will do it in five minutes when we're
back on Fox Sports Tradio. Well, I'm back Fox Sports Tradio.
Studio is a little rage against the machine for you here,

(55:58):
Chris Professor spending a hits Jason Martin Show. I am
j mart I'm on Twitter at j mart Radio. You
can find me there. You can also find me in Nashville, Tennessee.
That's where I happened to be downtown right now. I
won't give you the addresses studio just because I don't
need that in my life right now. But we are
brought to you by Discovery. You should put that in
your life. Discover matches all the cash back you earn

(56:19):
on your credit card at the end of your first year.
It's amazing because Discovers accepted at of places in the
US to take credit cards. Learn more Discover dot com
slash Yes Nielson Report limitations apply. So now I really
want to divert a little bit. I don't want to
talk about television with you a bit. Talk a little
bit about that Nickelodeon broadcast for the NFL. At the

(56:40):
end of the first hour of the show. Disney Plus
has been on a bit of a streak lately. Mandalorian
was a gigantic success in season one, and season two
was as good as TV can be, just in terms
of being great fans service, and just I haven't had
more fun watching the showing a long time than that.
One but one division started on Friday. Now I've seen

(57:05):
three of them. The first two came out on Friday.
I've seen one further episode or to be out on Friday,
and it's kind of the it's the doorway into the
fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic universe. As soon as
it's over, like two weeks after that, the Winter Soldier
show is going to begin, and we're headed towards wherever

(57:30):
Marvel is going post end Game. I reviewed the show,
and I mean, I just really liked it. It was
very unique. It has a larger story underneath that I'm
very fascinating see where it goes. But I mean, the
first episode of the show is very clearly and homage

(57:50):
to fifties television, the second to the sixties, and third
to the seventies. Looks like it's going through the decades.
You could say. The first one was kind of a
Dick Van Dyke clone. The second was kind of an
I Love Lucy were in reverse, whichever one you like,
and then the last one was kind of more of
a Brady Bunch deal. It's trying something wholly different. Like

(58:11):
I mean, it's not going to be for everybody. I'm
I'm fully aware of that, but it's more than just
that show, and I just I'm giving you the recommendation. Yeah,
especially if you're a Marvel fan watched that show, just
anticipate something new and also pay attention very closely because
there's whole lot of Easter eggs and stuff that if
you've watched all the films, if you've read the comics

(58:33):
and stuff, there's just a lot to enjoy. And Elizabeth
Olsen and Paul Bettany in particular are really really good.
But there's a trend that I've noticed since really The
Mandalorian's first season, which was technically the end of twenty nineteen,
but we saw it with a couple of shows last

(58:54):
year as well. They've all kind of figured out the
same thing. And I was watching the Holiday Movies That
Made Us documentary on Netflix to hit during Christmas. They
had done the movies that Made Us and it was
die Hard and Ghostbusters and Home Alone, which was really good,

(59:17):
and Dirty Dancing I think were the four that they
put out. And then for Christmas last year they put
out Elf in the Nightmare Before Christmas, and I was
watching the episode about Elf and they were describing Jon
Favreau taking on the taking on the job, and how
he wanted this to be something a father's son's story.
He had lost his dad and so he wanted this

(59:39):
to be really a father's son brotherhood kind of parent
child deal. Everybody had the right idea here. They wanted
to be funny and witty and unique, but they also
borrowed heavily from the past. I mean that movie was
basically a rip off of Rude with the Red Nose Reindeer,

(01:00:02):
to the fact that they almost had to deal with
some legal issues there, but it was it was not
done to be a rip off. Is done to be
a tribute. Is done to be a kind of modern
day interpretation of that, but doing it with Buddy the
Elf instead of Rudolph. And you go through it and
you just you come to really appreciate Jon Favreau watching this,

(01:00:23):
And of course John Favreau is behind the Mandalorian, But
if you look at some shows that we have seen
over the past year or so, a year and a
half or so, we've seen the Mandalorian, we've seen One Division, now,
we've seen Cobra Kai, and we've seen ted Lasso. And
these are the four that that stand out. And actually

(01:00:44):
I only had three. Actually tweeted something similar to this
from Matt J. Mart Radio on Thursday as I was screening,
just to let people know, Hey, yeah, one division is
gonna be worth your time. You gotta check it out.
Be curious to see what you think. Maybe not for you,
but definitely for me. And when we put three and
somebody me he said, I would put Cobra Kai on
that list, And they're right. Here's what they all figured out.

(01:01:06):
It's not really nostalgia. Even though obviously Mandalorian is Star Wars,
Cobra Kai is a karate kid, you do have some
of that, and of course Marvel's gonna be all nostalgia
as well as new stuff. Ted Lasso is is was
a fairly predictable story. We've seen that kind of thing
told before. It was similar to Major League in some ways,

(01:01:29):
but that was still certainly a unique property and original property.
Those shows don't have a ton in common thematically. They
all have different creators, they all have different approaches. Some
are more jama heavy. Lasso is certainly a comedy. So

(01:01:52):
what is it that that brings them together? To me,
what is the trend here that I wanted to spend
some time talking to you about. It's that I think
that they have keyed in just the way Elf. I mean,
ELF's gonna be timeless because it also found this same lane.

(01:02:13):
This lane never goes out of style, especially after the
year that we just went through in And I don't
even want to get into the list of everything that
went wrong for all of us collectively. And I hope
that your year was better than it could have been.

(01:02:35):
But I know some of you lost parents, and some
of you lost siblings, and some of you dealt with
things that were unique to you. But all the shows
that I just mentioned figured out that what we all
really want is to be entertained. It's to escape, it's

(01:03:01):
to be taken on a ride. It's to watch a
good story unfold, maybe even one that's kind of predictable.
You kind of know where it's gonna end. You know
the good guys are gonna win in the end, and
it just doesn't matter, and we we like to be surprised,
but we don't need to be outsmarted. The writing doesn't

(01:03:24):
have to be arrogant. It needs to be confident, it
needs to be smart. All of these shows have threaded
that needle beautifully, all of them in their own way.
One Division is obviously a bit of a mystery in
terms of it's designed to be a puzzle. We're putting

(01:03:47):
it together, we're figuring it out. Ted Lasso is a
very straightforward show about a football coach with Southern accent
who gets hired to coach football in England, meaning soccer Mandalorian.

(01:04:12):
We obviously know what that is. But all of the
all of these shows and Cobra kai the same way,
like all of them are entertaining. None of them really
preach any kind of worldview to you at all. They
just keep your attention. And then they have this in
common too, all of them have extremely likable, rootable leads.

(01:04:41):
They have characters with souls. They've got characters that grow,
characters that you root for that don't then just turn
around and cheat on their wives. There may not be
a more likable character I've seen in TV in five
or ten years. Than Jason Sadakis is Ted Lasso character,

(01:05:01):
and I kept waiting because I'm so used to it happening.
I kept waiting for the shooter dropping, for him to
turn out to be a jerk, and it just never happened,
and it was awesome. It was a beautiful thing. One
of the reasons why the segment I did before we
started talking about this was about the Nets. It's because
they're the opposite of this. I don't know who you're

(01:05:24):
rooting for on that team in terms of the stars,
and there's so many shows that we have seen, and yeah,
they've been successful shows in the past where there's nobody
to root for, and there does need to be a balance,
like for every Mandalorian. Sure we can certainly handle a
succession where really there is no one to root for,

(01:05:48):
and that's sort of the point. But I feel like
the reason why the shows that I have talked about
here over the last ten minutes have succeeded is because
all of them appealed to just about any audience. Now
one division is new and it maybe maybe I don't

(01:06:10):
even know what the reviews are. I haven't seen what
my colleagues has said about it. I am recommending it,
but I was able to escape into it. My wife,
who were just kind of going through the Marvel films
now with her, she watched it. It just we immediately
she wanted to watch one of the films. She wanted

(01:06:31):
to start catching up even faster. So she wasn't really
your like prime audience for that show. The Mandalorian is
as good as it gets. But this is all that.
This is all again just an indicator. I don't even
care what side it is. I mean, I really don't

(01:06:52):
like Lebotard and this new thing that he's doing with
John Skipper and the people that he's hiring and the
people that he's keying in on bringing in, like you know,
you know what it is that he's trying to do.
And then there's obviously a property on the other side,
and there's all this stuff. As long as they're honest
and up front, Hey, here's who we're seeking and here

(01:07:15):
is our worldview. I'm fine with that. Like, if that's
not my side, I'm probably not going to frequent it.
So maybe you're limiting yourself there, But really, I mean,
there are people that are gonna seek that stuff out.
But man, for me, the echo Chamber stuff is really like,
I'm just tired of it, man, and so TV kind

(01:07:38):
of not taking itself as seriously and just giving me
great entertainment putting a smile on my face. That's why
I dug that Nick broadcast because I was just able
to why I still it was still the same football game,
but it just gave me a little something different. It
enabled me to unlock the fun inside me. And I

(01:07:58):
feel like there's one thing it's happened over the last year,
year and a half is that someone has put a
lock on that side of us, on the childlike side
of us that still wants to get out from time
to time. So those four shows that I just mentioned
to you, ted Lasso on Apple Plus, The Mandalorian on

(01:08:20):
Disney Plus one Division also on Disney Plus, and Cobra
Kai now on Netflix. As much as I am enjoying
The Queen's Gambad and The Flight Attendant and these other things,
the four shows I just mentioned are the ones that
all of us, all of you should watch. If you
have seen them all, great, If you haven't, you should

(01:08:41):
start watching them. You can watch them all with most
of your family. Ted Lasso has got some language and
it's probably better off for for teenage year older the
other three. I mean, just a little bit of violence
here and there, but generally speaking, you can watch the
easier with your family. You can certainly watch the sit
with your spouse. And it's cool sometimes while you aren't

(01:09:07):
taking things so seriously that the shows you're watching aren't either.
They're just entertaining you with rock solid writing and characters
you can actually root for, and I think that's important.
So I want to talk a little bit of TV
with you. So there you go. Now we bring in
Brian Finley. We will talk some more sports when we

(01:09:27):
come back. But I appreciate that b We never get
tired of him either. He's great escapist entertainment. I try,
but you, sir, are the star. The Bills stomp on
the Ravens seventeen three in the a f C Divisional round.
Lamar Jackson gave up a maddening pick six in the
second half, cementing the game's fate. Jackson three for one

(01:09:48):
sixty two yards. He was sacked three times before exiting
the game with a concussion caused by a snap flailing
over his head, wafting over his head, and then as
he was trying to pick the ball up off the
ground and throw it away. He snapped the back of
his skull against the ground, so he did not get
to finish the contest. Josh Allen, Buffalo's quarterback, had two

(01:10:09):
hundred six yards passing, including a three yard score just
Stefon Diggs, who went for over a hundred yards receiving,
and he does that for the fifth time in his
last six games. Buffalo enters the a f C Championship
for the first time since nineteen four and they intently
will watch what takes place and unfolds between the Chiefs

(01:10:29):
and the Browns. Earlier on Saturday, the page the Packers
discard the Rams thirty to eighteen. In the NFC Divisional Round,
green Bay took control by scoring on its first five possessions.
Aaron Rodgers was two hundred ninety six yards passing, connecting
on two touchdown tosses, including one of the fifty eight

(01:10:50):
yard variety to Alan Lizard. There was also a one
yard to Davontae Adams. Here's Rogers on the thrill of
having the next game in the playoffs at Ambo. It
means a lot and Jordy and I talked about it
years ago and a lot of starts in this league
without being able to be a part of the host
in an NFC Championship. The Pack have not hosted the

(01:11:13):
NFC Championship since two thousand seven, and that was the
year that Brett Farve was the starter and Aaron Rodgers
was the backup. Meanwhile, Discover matches all the cash back

James Sardon, after moaning about playing in Houston and then
mailing it in at the end of his Rocket career,
applied himself on Saturday and his Nets debut recording nice
to show up. He was happy and I'm gonna read
off a quote that illustrates just the joy he had afterwards.

(01:11:56):
But yeah, he applied himself, as Jason was mentioning in
his mon along in his Nets debut, a triple double
with thirty two points, Brooklyn wins against the Magic and
Hard and after the game, with just tears of joy
seemingly streaming from his face, said quote. I hope that
you can all tell by my smile and my play,

(01:12:17):
just excited for the opportunity. This is an unbelievable organization
from top to bottom close quote. In other words, yeah,
if I can't win with Houston, I'm gonna do whatever
it takes to leave there and go somewhere else where
I can try to win a title. But like you said, Jason,
I'm not certain that's gonna happen because of that personality

(01:12:42):
type that Harden is. Hopefully you tell me being man,
how how how did James Harden and Kyrie Irving co
exist if things go south at all? Knowing the track
record of James Harden when they bring other stars to
compliment him, none of them, as you pointed out Jason
and your monologue have worked out. So what's gonna suggest
that this one will. I don't see anything changing. This

(01:13:03):
is gonna combust like you talked about, and it's gonna
be very interesting theater, But I don't think it's gonna
have a happy ending at all. The only way they
win is if Durant is a star, he can win
those two guys. I just no, no, but I just
wait for it to explode. But I'm looking forward to
the documentary at three or four years. I will definitely

(01:13:24):
be watching that welcome back we were in the Fox
Sports radio studios. That was Brian Finley, since there was
no Bernie Frido tonight, I'll call him the silver Tongued Devil,
and I'll do it, hopefully in the same cadence that
our guy Bernie does on Straight out of Vegas. Yeah,
I know Harden had a triple double. He's gonna have

(01:13:47):
several of them that You're probably a whole lot of them.
I don't think this is gonna end with them holding
the trophy. I just don't could be wrong. We'll aware
of that. It starts out well Thoeen and twelve, but
Kyrie is not on the floor yet either. He's set
to rejoin the team, I know. But this is the

(01:14:07):
guy who basically went home in sulk because he didn't
like the who they hired for head coach, who just
looks like he is. He's a repellent from optimism, positivity,
And I know it's similar to Shaun Watson, but I

(01:14:27):
don't see Shaun Watson in anywhere the nearer the same
level I do as Kyrie, just in terms of that.
I understand he's upset about the coach and the general
manager thing as well. I think he's got a bit
of a right to be. Kyrie. I just rolled my
eyes and I just can't wait to see him in
Harden together. Not because of the points that are gonna

(01:14:50):
put up, but because of the fireworks they're gonna emanate
from Brooklyn and Kevin Durant somehow gonna have to try
and keep that together. And Katie's got his own issues.
How many burner accounts we're gonna get out of the
Brooklyn Nets franchise now? Five six just from Katie alone,
two more from Harden. I don't even know if he's

(01:15:12):
on Twitter. Actually he I think he was at one point.
I can't wait to see this. I mean, I know
it's already happening. I can't wait to see it all
go down. As Doug Gottlieb said earlier this week on
Fox Sports Radio, I'm here for the circus, but I'm
pretty sure we're not gonna be buying a ticket to
watch it in the NBA Finals. We'll be right back,

Yes Nielson Report limitation to do apply. One other NBA
thing I wanted to mention real quickly, the New Orleans
Pelicans of four and seven. It's very early in the season, yes,

(01:16:19):
but you still you're seeing Zion's highlights. He's not the
leading score. Brandon Ingram is right now. He's playing physical.
But the teams is not very good right now. Again,

(01:16:39):
I know it's early and it can turn. But I'm
looking at this and I'm wondering if you're the NBA
with the ratings numbers for Christmas Day and just overall,
it just seems like lead interest is down. Whatever the
factor you want to put in there, whatever, that's not
my point. Are you concerned and that the guy that

(01:17:01):
you were kind of hoping was going to take the
mantle from Lebron, who eventually is going to stop playing
and be done, is on a bad team in a
market that's irrelevant in the n b A and is
not playing meaningful basketball, or do you see this like

(01:17:24):
Shock and Orlando as in it took You know that
first year wasn't great, but you saw some flashes, and
then he came back and he got better, and then
the team roll. They got veterans and Horace Grant, and
then Penny came around and they had that small little
run that could have been a much larger run had
it not been for Shack versus the Orlando media and

(01:17:47):
the team not not offering what they should have and
maybe just a desire to go into l A and
of course Penny's health being another issue. But I know
you've got Luca and you've some other guys, but Zion
is clearly the one that the NBA put the spotlight

(01:18:07):
on and felt like he could be the next guy.
People were comparing him to Shock. They were saying he
was Lebron like he was a guy that was magnetic
his personality. And we know this if you ever seen
him do an interview, if you've seen a smile, if
you've seen his attitude, you like all of it. What
you don't like is him in New Orleans with the
Pelicans four and seven, fourth in the Southwest Division, already

(01:18:31):
fallen behind five and a half games in the West,
and they may turn it around. I'm not suggesting that
they can. But if you look at the schedule so far,
they had what the first game was, they beat the
Raptors and they lost to Miami. They had a three

(01:18:51):
game losing streak here two weeks ago. I think with
the Pacers, Thunder and Hornets. None of those three teams
are particularly good. MAV's game didn't happen, and then they
lost to the Clippers in the Lakers, So really they
lost five in a row and had a postponement in
the middle of it. Now they play Sacramento in the
sevente I just wonder if I'm Adam Silver, or I
wonder if Adam Silver is at all concerned about the

(01:19:17):
fact that this guy that's a superstar is in the
wrong place at the wrong time right now. The league
has to be rooting hard for the Pelicans to be relevant,
to get good, to coalesce, to gel they need them.

(01:19:38):
They've got some young stars, but those stars are not
driving people to television to watch basketball. They're just not
You might watch them. I might watch them because we
love the NBA, but this is not bringing into casual fans.
None of these guys are as good as they may
or may not be. But Zion is a guy that
can do fifteen different commercial ads and kind of be

(01:20:01):
that bridge guy because really, you don't have a league still,
You've got people that want to watch Lebron James either
want to watch him win or want to watch him lose.
Outside of that, it's hardcore, hoot pets. I've never seen
less interest in an NBA season that I'm seeing right now.
And I know this COVID and there's an election stuff
and there's everything else going on, but it ain't good.

(01:20:26):
You've got to hope if you're the NBA, the Pelicans
turn this around again. Eleven games into the season. It's
a very small sample size, but they've lost their last
five basketball games, and you want Zion playing in as
meaningful a game as you possibly can have him playing
in as fast as humanly possible if you're the NBA.
When we come back into the third hour, of this show.

(01:20:48):
Let's look at Tampa Bay in New Orleans and we'll
break down the other one as well. But let's talk
about Brady and Breeze and these matchups on Sunday, plus
some Deshaun Watson talk. We'll be right back third hour
of the program on this Sunday, NFC and a f
C still a game to play in each to determine
who goes to the championship games to play on Saturday.

(01:21:09):
Bills Advance beat the Ravens seventeen to three. Packers just
dismantled the Rams again. I I let off the show
by taking the L on Matt Lafleur. I was sure
that was a bad higher. I was sure as hell
wrong too, totally wrong about Matt Lafleur. And I don't

(01:21:30):
think anybody's playing better than Green Bay. And it's gonna
take a lot to beat Green Bay. And that gets
us to who will play them next. It will be
either Breeze or Brady in this matchup of as Dick
as decorated a quarterback match up, as you can find
two first ballot Hall of famers, two really good teams

(01:21:57):
in the same division that I've already met ice this year,
the Saints won both. They won the season opener thirty three.
That should have been expected first game for the Bucks,
all these new parts, no real offseason the same way
that that the guys are used to with COVID and
everything else going on, so much weirdness. A team that

(01:22:20):
had more synergy already built in didn't have nearly as
much turnover was going to have the advantage early in
the year, and the Saints certainly did in the rematch
on Sunday Night Football. We were all super excited to
watch that ninth week of the season, Saints beat the

(01:22:41):
Bucks thirty eight to three. I do not think that
will happen again, even if the Saints win, But that
was the most disappointed I've been about an NFL game
in a few years in terms of one. I was
excited to watch that let Me Down Breeze versus a
D Today. I said this off the top of the show.

(01:23:03):
I'll say it again. If the Saints win, the Packers
are going to the super Bowl. If the Bucks win,
at least it becomes more interesting. It's not because I
think the Bucks are particularly like stronger than the Saints,
even though I do like Tampa Bay's offense overall better
now there are nowhere near the running game, although for

(01:23:24):
Net has looked better, and but they don't run the
ball very often. Arian should run it more than he does,
but that's just not his that's not his bag. It's
not obviously gonna do. The Saints have Kimeara who's better
than anybody on the other side, but when you look
at the receiving talent, it's not close. The Bucks winn
it easily. Defense. The Saints are great and the Bucks

(01:23:45):
are really good, so you don't necessarily have an advantage there.
But here's why I think the Bucks would have a
better chance in Lambeaux And if you heard the first
hour of the show, you already know where I'm going.
I don't think Breeze can go to lambeau Field, where
it's gonna be much colder. I believe a week from
now than it was yesterday for the Rams and win

(01:24:08):
that game in the cold at his age, with the
weapons that he has, all Green Bay really has to
do is put a lid on Michael Thomas and match
Kimara with Jones and Williams. The Bucks, on the other hand,

(01:24:28):
much more receiving talent out there, with Godwin and Evans
solid at the tight end position as well. They've They've
got a lot of guys that you like in a
b But it's Brady who knows better than Tom Brady
how to win when it's ice cold or even snowing

(01:24:49):
in the playoffs in January. Than Tom Brady. How many ugly,
ice cold games has he won in his days in England.
He's not gonna be intimidated, and Breeze wouldn't be intimidated
either if it's him. But Brady is going to feel
right at home as at home as Aaron Rodgers will. Yeah,

(01:25:13):
it would be a hostile environment. There was a It
was a good crowd in Green Bay. The people that
they let in were loud. That made for a much
better atmosphere. You heard Aaron Rodgers say that after the game.
You heard um Aaron Jones say it too. But Brady's
used to the elements up there. If it's him, I
think you've got a shot. The question is can he

(01:25:35):
get there? They're gonna be in New Orleans and Breeze
and the Saints just play a lot better at home.
I don't look at this and say because New Orleans
beat him, twice, they can't beat him a third time.
I don't look at it that way. It's a team
is good enough they can win it three times. It's
very hard to do. Very rarely is it done. But

(01:25:58):
I think each individual situation and it is different here. However,
I don't think that the Saints are are really firing
on all cylinders the way that I've said. The Green
Bay Packers look like they are, and I think that
Tampa Bay is playing good, and I think that they were.

(01:26:18):
They were challenged and tested enough last week that they
should be looped up properly for this one. They were
challenged enough that they are playoff ready. Breeze coming back
off the injury, hasn't played a lot of football, or

(01:26:40):
not as much as you would maybe have expected. And
now he's going in here, and I don't think he
has the same weaponry that Brady does around him. Oh,
by the way, and I said this off the top
of the show too, Brady is not alone in being
used to playing in cold environments. So is Antonio Brown.
Oh so is Rob Gronkowski. If they do go to Lambeau,

(01:27:06):
They're they're gonna be I think, in a much better
position to win that game than would New Orleans, and
in fact, they played the Packers at home earlier this
year and beat him thirty eight to ten. I don't
I don't think that would happen either, But I certainly
don't think we're gonna see thirty eight to three in reverse.
This should be and could be a great game now.

(01:27:29):
Defense has really kind of been the order of the
day so far in the playoffs in the NFL. All
these high powered offenses had a hundred and two more
touchdowns scored in the NFL this past season than any
other season in NFL history, unbelievable amounts of yards. Tom
Brady through in regular season for over forty hundred yards
and forty touchdowns. Breeze miss games, but Breeze is still

(01:27:52):
Breeze for the most part. The other thing that's intriguing
about this matchup when you look at Breeze and Brady,
is it's probably the last time, right we expect this
is it for Breeze, win or lose. Brady I think
is back one more year, and the way he's played,
maybe he's back longer. Maybe he's right, Maybe he isn't
gonna play the fifty years old. Maybe this history Channel

(01:28:13):
Graphics gonna turn out to be right, and he is
gonna be old and grain. He's still gonna be out
there winning ten games. It's a great matchup that you
hope lives up to the height. I feel like Tampa
Bay is playing better football right now than the Saints are.

(01:28:37):
I'm waiting for Sean Payton to go to that Taysom
Hill well once too often, just like he did last
week against the Bears. But you can do that against
Chicago because Robinsky is not gonna make you pay enough.
But he took out Breeze on that play, and what
did he'll proceed to do immediately turn the ball over.
If he would just stop trying to outsmart everybody in

(01:29:00):
the room and keep his Hall of Fame quarterback on
the field in situations like that, probably gonna be better off.
But Peyton's always got the propensity that he wants to
outsmart everybody. He wants to prove that he's right about
Taysom Hill, and some of the time he is, but
he often doesn't use him like a gadget player the

(01:29:20):
way that he should. I'm waiting for Tasom to take
one too many snaps later on today and that to
be a major turnover in the game. I mean, you
look at Baltimore and Buffalo. The pick six was it?
Baltimore was driving, they were about to get into the
end zone. Tie that thing up. Instead it goes a

(01:29:41):
hundred one yards the other way. Touchdown ball game. That's
all it takes. I had somebody tell me a few
days ago. They're like, oh, you know, it's never about
one play, except for the fact that I mean it is.
Think about how many games that you've watched and whatever

(01:30:03):
sports you want to think about right now, how many
of those games came down to one or two plays
or a call here and there, or a mismanaged clock
at the end of the game. Like, yeah, all of
the other stuff had to happen, but many times the
difference between winning and losing is real small, and it's
just it's you can count it on one hand how

(01:30:23):
many plays it is. Sometimes you can count it on
one finger, So it can be one play. Hill comes
in turns the ball over against Tampa Bay. I don't
know that they can afford to do that the way
they could against Chicago. Now, if they're up thirty eight
to three, where they had that first half, that they
had on that Sunday night football game. Okay, we can
we can have this discussion, but I think a bigger

(01:30:48):
question is just which defense plays better against the opposing
Hall of Fame quarterback. The first time Breeze and Brady
have ever met in the playoffs, which isn't surprising because
Saints Patriots never happened in the Super Bowl and that
would have been the only other chance that that could
have happened until this year. Both defenses are very good.

(01:31:18):
Whichever one plays better probably wins the game. Which and
by place better I mean sacks and turnovers. Brady gets
the ball out of his hands real quick so that
he doesn't get sacked. Breeze, with his health, he'd better
not get sacked. But tip balls at the line that
turned into an interception or a bad handoff where the

(01:31:39):
mesh point just doesn't really compute, or even a missed
opportunity by a defender. We saw this twice for the
Rams against the Packers on Saturday. Two balls that probably
could have been intercepted in the end zone, neither one
of them were, and it was play on from there.

(01:32:03):
Aaron Rodgers through a couple of bad balls in that
game and they were, and the Rams were unable to
make the play on either one of them, and they
were big time plays. Again, the difference between winning and
losing when you especially when you get to this spot
oftentimes it isn't that great. You have to maximize your
opportunities when it comes down to these two quarterbacks. They're

(01:32:25):
not going to give you a whole lot of chances
to beat them. They're not going to beat themselves either.
So when those two or three balls that maybe they
wish they had back, or the spots where you get
around on that edge, you've got to finish. These can't
be almost sacks. These can't be on almost hurries. These

(01:32:49):
are got to be playing through the whistle and knocking
those guys down, knocking the football down, knocking it into
the air, off the line, and making the play. This
playoffs so far hasn't been nearly as exciting as I
think many of us hoped it would be. We got
one more opportunity before we get to the championship games.

(01:33:09):
We got Tampa Bay in New Orleans. Today, we've got
Kansas City and Cleveland. Cleveland can put up some points
and they do have some defensive guys that make splash plays.
That sounds a lot like the Chiefs. I think we
feel like we know how that game is gonna go.
Nothing has been particularly strange about this playoffs at all
so far. So are we just gonna continue down the

(01:33:32):
same pathway where the obvious happens? Or is today gonna
be really odd? That becomes the question as we sit
and wait for these games to kick off. Is it
just gonna be chalked or are we gonna be talking
about controversies and all sorts of things that we really

(01:33:53):
haven't talked too much about so far. The officiating sucked
last week. I didn't notice it particularly on sat To Day,
which is a good thing. It wasn't good down to
stretch of the NFL regular season, and it certainly wasn't
good last week. Some big time calls that were just blown.
I think there might have been a bad hold or
two or something on Saturday, but I didn't see all

(01:34:17):
that much. Hopefully that's gonna be the case again. I
also just hope they're more exciting, because there were times
it was just like, I'm kind of ready to pop
over and watch this rerun Home Improvement and call it
a night. I don't think I was alone, but Breeze
versus Brady, it didn't get too much better than that
first time I've ever met in the playoffs. Those two dudes, Yeah,

(01:34:39):
I'll watched that and their teams are fantastic, but it
will come down to which defense makes more plays in
that game, because I don't think Breeze is out there
throwing four interceptions and Tom Brady's throwing three. It's whoever
gets that one that you're not even expecting off the
one or two bad throws that those guys make that
determines what's gonna happen. And we are brought to you

that no one has wanted to watch on television for
in forever to one of the most must see franchises
in all of sports because of two individuals, the rationale
behind the decision whether it can work. There's a lot here,

(01:35:53):
and then there's another quarterback in the same division I
kind of want to talk to too, and talked about
as well, that being Deshaun Watson and what's going on
with the Houston Texas. So we won't talk about the
games that are gonna be played today. We just did that.
We are going to talk about the future of the

limitations apply. Urban Meyer to Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence to Jacksonville,

(01:36:41):
a ton of cat money, a lot of draft picks.
IRV Meyer knew what he was doing with this one.
I have started to think and I've thought about this
over the past few weeks. Because the whole thing is
how much you loved Trevor Lawrence, and he's watched him
obviously as he's been doing the analysts stuff, especially this
last few years. How much of this is just man,

(01:37:04):
I just want to go coach that guy. I want
to see if I'm right about him? Is he that good?
Urban has a history of showing up and then disappearing,
and Urban is an elite recruiter, which doesn't necessarily help
you in the NFL, except you can try to make

(01:37:27):
your place the place where free agents want to go.
Then you have to have the money. Everything has to
be done properly. Good news is you're in Jacksonville cons
of solid owner. The places is in good hands from
a management perspective. Unlike some of the other franchises. They
are still looking for guys to take their head coaching jobs,

(01:37:51):
and even ones that if you know, we've had one
that's been filled with the Jets. I don't know if
that's well run. Lions are not well run. Texans may
be there sprun franchise in all sports, asked Deshaun Watson.
He's now about ready to tell you so if he
hasn't already, but urban Meyer knows what he's doing. He's
coming into the league in a spot where very few

(01:38:13):
coaches can walk into the NFL for the first time
and pick their quarterback. But he can because you either
have to take the job that's there with the quarterback
that's already there, or a draft pick that's usually not
number one, or it's a total rebuild. And here it

(01:38:37):
kind of is, except you have James Robinson had a great,
great rookie year running the football, a couple of young
receivers you might want to do something with, but you've
got a ton of capital when you're about to take
the sure thing right. Like other than Elway, Peyton Manning
and Andrew Luck, no one has the kind of pre

(01:39:00):
draft hype that Trevor Lawrence does. Everybody just assumes he's
gonna be great. So you bring in this quarterback that
might be if he's anything like what we think he
could be, he immediately becomes the best player in franchise history,
or pretty quickly, and it's already a competitive division. The

(01:39:21):
Titans are good, the culture good Texans are not, but
they have a great quarterback, at least for the time being.
They do, and they're about to at least have a
new coach and maybe they're gonna get some things fixed
down there. But Jacksonville is very similar to me to
the New Orleans Pelicans from last year, where they went
from a franchise there was no reason to put on

(01:39:42):
national television to one that had what I think it
was seven something somewhere just under thirty but in the
high twenties of national broadcasts. Simply because of Zion Williamson,
Jacksonville is probably gonna have multiple Sunday night games, Monday
Night football. The cure riosity factor for the Jacksonville Jaguars,

(01:40:02):
it's going to be just otherworldly, Like this isn't Kyler
Murray and Cliff Kingsbury because nobody cared about Kingsbury largely. Yeah,
Kyler was the number one pick, but he didn't have
the level of hype around him that Trevor Lawrence did.
And urban Meyer is I think it was Daniel Jeremiah

(01:40:29):
moved the sticks that tweeted out urban Meyer is something
that reminds him of Jimmy Johnson to Dallas instead of
some of the other failed college coaches to go to
the pros. That it's more akin to that because of
the scenario and what he walked into and being able
to pick a quarterback and all of those things. Urban

(01:40:52):
Meyer and his name, the recognition of it in college
football what it's on a totally different level from a
King Ksbury, for example. It has much more recognition, It
has much more Q rating than like a Lincoln riley Wood.
At this point, urban Meyer was a celebrity, is a celebrity.

(01:41:19):
So you take that and you marry it to this
camp miss quarterback, and Jacksonville becomes a musty. The Pelicans
weren't gonna be musty, but Zion was, so you still
gotta watch them even when they're four and seven. That's
one of the reasons why I talked about that at
the end of the last hour, because I knew we
were going here next. Jacksonville could be good really quickly.

(01:41:48):
It could be a two or three year plan because
you're trying to bring people in. The only question mark
is urban Meyer didn't stick around for very long. When
it starts to go south. He has health, can earns
or he gets burned out or whatever. But I also
don't think that he is going to be used to
the level of difficulty that he's going to run into.

(01:42:11):
This is the guy. I talked to Andy Staples the
Athletic about this last week, and what he said about
her and Meyer that was pretty telling was I mean,
you've got great coaches in the NFL that lose three games,
four games, five games. You've got great coaches that lose
six games to get into the playoffs, right like ten
and six teams, eleven and five teams to get into

(01:42:31):
the playoffs. This is an Urban Meyer who's not used
to losing one a lot of times or losing too
and doesn't like to lose, doesn't take a losing very well.
How is he going to react going to Jacksonville where
he can't be expected in the first year. I mean,

(01:42:51):
you want if Trevor Lawrence takes them to nine and
seven from one in fifteen, I mean think about that
for a second. So let's say they have a great
year and they end up seven and nine or who knows,
maybe even eight and eight. I don't know. Urban Meyers
not used to losing nine games, eight games, seven games,
six games, five games, like when's the last time you

(01:43:14):
did that? Is his mind going to be able to
process that? Because that's not a bad record in the NFL,
but he's not used to it, and somebody that cares
about winning so much that, let's just be real, he's
turned to blind eyes to some stuff, plenty of stuff
as a matter of fact, in order to make sure

(01:43:35):
they keep winning. So how does he handle losing? I've
always thought about this with guys that go into the
NFL that are high draft picks, like top five draft picks. Okay,
and Trevor Lawrence would be an example of one. But
he's in a unique position potentially to control things a

(01:43:55):
little bit better. But you think about top flight guys
to go with the top five in the NFL draft. Okay,
you're in high school, you're by far the best athlete,
not just on your football team, but in the entire school,
maybe in the history of the school, probably in history
of school. You're playing quarterback, even if you're gonna play
linebacker in college, because you're the best athlete. A lot

(01:44:18):
of times it's just you. You're not even throwing the ball,
you're just running the ball. But you're in and up
with seven hundred yards of offensive game, all this kind
of stuff. Your team doesn't lose because you're way better
than everybody. Else put together. If you're a top five
draft pick, you're that good, then you get to college

(01:44:38):
a little bit tougher. But if you're a top five
draft pick, you're still other worldly. You're probably on a
pretty good football team, and you're still dominant. You're still
not used to It's like you've had yes men around
you and then all of a sudden, you start getting
straight talk. That's what happens when you get to the NFL,

(01:44:59):
when you see the speed, when you see the technique,
the expectation, the pressure. I mean, look at Tah and
him having to understand now that his receivers are not
going to be Alabama open ever again. He's gonna have

(01:45:24):
to take chances and he's gonna have to be accurate
in very tight windows. It can be easier to be
accurate when guys are running wide open. Right, It's a
different game. But not only is it a different game
for the guys that go that are used to be
in Heisman finalists and being in college football semifinals and
finals and then go and go four and twelve in

(01:45:46):
their first year. Like, I don't know how your mind
process is finally hitting that wall where it doesn't matter
how good. You are, everybody's good, But how does it
feel for a coach, A coach that one at Utah,

(01:46:08):
that one at Bowling Green, that won a national championship
at Florida, that won a national championship at Ohio State.
There has no real NFL petigree to speak of it all.
But who's used to losing one game or two games

(01:46:28):
a year? And now, even if he's good, he's probably
eleven and five. Can he handle that? I think that's
the one thing that's the most interesting about what we're
about to see in Jacksonville. Have many things that are
going to be interesting. I'm all for this. I don't

(01:46:51):
know if it's gonna work, but it's gonna be very entertaining,
and I think it's gonna be very good for the
National Football League. But the thing that we have not
I don't think really fully thought about, is how long
can Urban Myer's brain tolerate losing that many games on

(01:47:17):
a regular basis, year after year after year. We always
started that about Brent Venables. One of the reasons he's
still the defensive coordinator at Clemson is because he can't
stand losing. So if he leaves, Clemson goes and takes
a head coaching job in the Power five where many
people have wanted him, and then he loses three or

(01:47:41):
four games, he spontaneously combusts. He can't handle it. So
better to stay in the blue blood of blue bloods
at Clemson then to go somewhere where he might actually
have to build something, because he might just not be
able to do it mentally. It's just gonna break him.

(01:48:02):
Doug Collins was the same way in the NBA. Doug
Collins had swept through his suits and his players would
always be worried about his health, and he would even say, yeah,
every time I coach, my blood pressure goes up and
things like that. I remember reading that about him so intense,
so competitive, such a winning mentality that it would actually
put him in physical danger because of his health stress levels.

(01:48:26):
Urban Meyer, whether you believe it or not, left the
game as a coach because of stress. And now he's
going into a situation where he's going to lose guaranteed
a handful of games every year. That to me is

(01:48:48):
the thing to watch. And I'll bet that's the thing
you have not considered this week. It may work, But
if it works, he's getting to the playoffs eleven and five,
twelve four. Even if Trevor Lawrence is good, they're still
gonna lose games. I mean that Kansas City Chiefs thing
that just doesn't happen very often. Maybe Trevor Lawrence is

(01:49:12):
that good. The NFL is a tough road to home.
It's not college football where you roll in and you
beat somebody three that just that that does not happen
in the NFL. So this is gonna be such a
culture shock for Urban Meyer, and somehow he's gonna have
to become okay real quick with losing games when he's

(01:49:34):
never been okay with it and never reacted very well
to it in the past. That's the biggest unknown for me.
Let's go to Brian Finlay. He's known he's the silver
tongued devil. Thank you, Jason. You know, the Bills are
notorious for subjecting their fans to decades of misery and mediocrity,

(01:49:55):
but now they're dancing into the a f C Championship
for the first time in nearly thirty years. Buffalo vacuums
the Raven seventeen to three in the Divisional round on Saturday.
Lamar Jackson through a game defining pick six. He did
not get to finish the game after having a concussion.
Josh Allen passed for two hundred six yards as the

(01:50:15):
Bills QB. He had one score. Sean mcderman after the
game found an excuse for why Allen had pedestrian type stats.
It was inconsistent, but it was inconsistently gusting, so it
made it hard. And judge, you know how to how
to spin the ball out there, and so I think
we benefited from from that one time, but we missed

(01:50:36):
a couple of shots row in the game because of it,
So you know, it was it was hard. The Packers
flick away the Rams eighteen and NFC Divisional action Green
Bay season control by scoring on its first five possessions.
Aaron Rodgers went for two hundred ninety six yards passing.
He had two touchdown passes, one to Alan Lizard and
the other two Davonte Adams. The one seated pack wills

I just think that John rand is more. They sure
get well. I mean, you know where I am on
that You've been with us. You've been with us since
the start of this show, so uh, I said. I

(01:52:08):
think by the end of it, Jaw is gonna have
the better career from Zion. I said that before either
one of them was drafted. And I do think the
injuries play a large role. Guys that are built like
Zion Williams and you don't see him that explosive. I
just still't know his knees hold up. I don't know
if his back holds up. We've already seen injuries now
Jaws just coming back from an injury. But I don't know.

(01:52:29):
I hope they both have long careers because they're both
a hell of a lot of fun to watch. The
NBA desperately needs both of them to be playing well.
Four and seven Pelicans. They're gonna need to pick it up.
They're gonna need to pick it up fairly quick. They
are falling behind rapidly in the Western Conference, which is
deep and loaded. Other than the fact that a lot
of those deep and loaded teams are the same ones

(01:52:49):
that are going to flame out real fast when they
get into the playoffs every single year, I think, by
the way, what Sean McDermott said about the wind is
fair because I saw Josh Allen and Lamar both just
airmailing guys. And yeah, I know Lamar can overthrow a
few game and Josh Allen can too because they I mean,
Josh Allen has that ridiculous arm. But some of these pasts,

(01:53:11):
it's just just like these dudes were running free and
they were getting blown by the ball like ten yards over,
just not even close. So yeah, they went and they
were saying, if the start of the game was four
miles per hour, then it was eight miles per hour.
But then you looked at the flags, you're like eight
or eighty because that looks like it sucks. And here's
how bad it sucked. Justin Tucker missed multiple field goals

(01:53:33):
in this game. How is that even possible. He's the
guy that doesn't get jinks by the broadcaster every single
time he comes out there. He's the greatest kicker in
NFL history. Look at this, he never visits He's automatic.
This is why you have to go for it. This
is why you have to punt the ball because if
you go for it on fourth down and you hand
the ball to the Ravens at the fifty, it's almost

(01:53:54):
a guarantee three. So it's a guaranteed field goal every time.
And just Justin Tucker joined two goals, and who knows
what happens in that game if he makes either one
of those. They stayed on three for a long long time.
To a matter of fact, they never got off that three.
But the wind had to be and they even said

(01:54:15):
I'd start a third quarter to Foya set on the
broadcast that it was swirling around and the coaches had
mentioned something about it. But you had Tucker missing field goals.
You had Alan airmailing guys by ten yards. You had
Lamar throwing at five ten yards pass guys on a
routine basis. You had Hunley who came in for Lamar Jackson,
the Utah quarterbacks, the rookie he airmailed Hollywood Brown on

(01:54:38):
what would have been a guaranteed touchdown when Hollywood Brown
got opened down the right side. The wind was definitely
an issue in that late game, and that might be
the reason why it was seventeen three and rather uninteresting.
I mean without the pick six, I mean, good grief.
Those you thought that would be a game where the

(01:55:00):
offenses were able to do an awful lot more, and
it turned out to just kind of be it was
a rock fight instead of attract me. And maybe it
wasn't gonna be at tracked met but that game should
have been in the twenties, right. You would have thought
the Ravens have a good defense. I like Martin Dale
and I like Leslie Fraser, but those offenses should have
been able to put up points and they didn't. And
one of the big reasons is because the pass game

(01:55:21):
was such a struggle bus for for both sides to
some degree. I mean, Josh Allen played well considering, but
he was just a little bit over two hundred yards.
This wasn't like a virtuoso performance. It was more impressive,
I think because the weather and I think Lamar and
the things that he was doing also pronounced for the
same exact reason. So McDermott saying, yeah, it was inconsistent.

(01:55:43):
The wind was just causing Josh to just struggle. It
was just a very inconsistent night because of that. I
don't think that's an excuse. I think that is a
very very fair approximation of what we were seeing based
on the play on both sides and just the way
that the passing game could not be counted on on
either side to do anything consistently other than Alan the Diggs,

(01:56:07):
because you know, that's just as lethal as it gets.
When we come back, we're gonna pick the two games

Hit me up with your thoughts. We've talked a whole
lot of NFL on this show, we broke down what

(01:57:32):
happened on Saturday. I think the Green Bay Packers the
best team in the NFL right now in terms of
how they are playing. I don't think anybody is playing
better than they are. I have the Chiefs winning the
Super Bowl. I still do have them beating the Packers.
I had them beating the Saints before the season started.
I just think at this point in time, I don't
think New Orleans has a chance to go to Green

(01:57:52):
Bay and beat them in the cold. The question is
will that game take place or are we gonna see
Bucks Packers in a rematch of a game that was
played earlier this year where Tampa Bay destroyed Green Bay
and Tom Brady, who was used to playing in the cold,
as if some of his skill position players Gronkowski, Antonio Brown,

(01:58:14):
guys that are also used to it. Do we get
that matchup? And maybe I'm dismissing the Saints a little
saying they don't have a chance. I think it's gonna
be an awfully tough ask to have Drew Brees go
up in the cold and when that game over, Aaron
Rodgers hosting his first over NFC championship game. I think
that is asking an awful lot. Certainly he can do it.

(01:58:34):
He's a Hall of Fame quarterback. And they do have
talent on the Saints, and their defense is really good.
But you tell me somebody that's playing more complete football
than the Green Bay Packers right now, I just don't
think it exists. I think you look at their defense,
their run game, the way Aaron Rodgers is dialed in
right now with his receivers, the play calling from the floor,

(01:58:54):
everything is rocking and rolling for them. And I don't
think it's I don't think it's smoking mirrors. I just
think they're really good. They dismantled the Rams on Saturday,
dismantled them all right, two games on Sunday. We're gonna
pick them here. The entire crew comes in, starts out
three oh five. Cleveland at Kansas City Browns impressive against

(01:59:16):
the Steelers early and then the Stewards made a come back,
but the Browns held on. They didn't have their head coach.
They'll have their head coach back here. They're healthier than
they were against Pittsburgh. But it's the Chiefs. It's at
Kansas City. Mayfield has played so well in terms of
not turning the ball over. I tend to think this
is a game where he just tries to do a

(01:59:38):
little too much, maybe because he has to. I think
he turns the ball over a couple of times against
an opportunistic, if not good, Kansas City defense, and that
should be enough for my homes and company. I've got
the Chiefs winning the game. I'm hoping for high scoring
and I think it's very possible that's what we'll get. Chris.
So this is funny to me because, like as much

(02:00:00):
as I want to like the Browns here, I feel
like their win against the Steelers not to knock get
anything they did there. It was a lot more to
say about how dysfunctional Steelers were early, how bad, how
bad Ben Roethlisberger played, not as much about the Browns.
I have no reason to doubt the Kansasy Chiefs. No
one should have a recent doubt the Kansas City Chiefs

(02:00:21):
if they accept if they somehow just blow this one
the same way, not gonna happen, Chiefs. I think this
one will be high scoring, but I don't think it's
gonna be the Browns putting up twenty eight in the
first quarter again. I will take the Chiefs as well. Me.
I remind everybody that I picked the Browns last week.
I think I was the only person that did that.
And I think that the Chiefs are gonna get Malcolm

(02:00:42):
Butler's Can I use that as a verb? Browns win? Wow?
All right? You and Mackenzie Rivers. Heard Mackenzie Rivers say
that on the show proceeding us. I'm sure that Vegas
all right, Tampa Bay at New Orleans matchup number three
Saints of beating them twice, I'm taking Tampa Bay. I
just think they're a little bit better, and I think
that they're off. The just really found it. Not the
same team the Saints beat twice. I'll take the Bucks.

(02:01:04):
Drew where we're all living in the passa Drew Breese,
he's not throwing well, he's throwing ducks. I've got Tampa Bay.
I don't trust them in the next round, but I
do not trust the Saints here. I also have Tampa Bay.
I'm going with the Saints. Not to be a Conturian,
not to be a Conturian while I'm a Conturian. That's
Brian Finlay, Fox Football Sunday coming up next. We'll see
you next week and join the Piscan later today
