Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, I'm fall from Progressive. Being a baseball fanetic like
me can be stressful. It's not all sports points and touchdowns.
So Progressive is going to help you take your mind
off your team for a moment. Instead of thinking about
how they missed that gold points score, think about the
name your price toool from Progressive letting you choose coverage
options based on your budget, unlike your team that missed
the end zone net area. Well, anyway, hope this distraction

(00:21):
about Progressives Name your Price Toool is helpful. It sure
kept me from thinking about all those penalty balls sports

Welcome in. It's Fox Sports Sunday. Happy to be with you,
Mike Carmen LaVar Arrington. Ready to go on another Sunday

(00:42):
broadcasting live from the Farmer's Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios.
When you switch to Farmers Insurance, you could save a bundle.
All you have to do is call one eight eight
eight Farmers get a quote today. We are farmers. What
is going on? My man? I know you're still bad
skiing in the glow of a blowout victory on Friday night.

(01:03):
It was so electrifying and your quarterback moved so fast
I couldn't get the video to work. That's pretty cool, man.
It was enjoyable. Uh, super super happy about it. You know,
just seeing them get out there on the field, Mike
was pretty uh, pretty amazing and all in itself just
everything everybody's had to overcome and indoor for us to

(01:25):
get to that moment. So for him to get out
there was the win. For them to play as well
as they did under um you know, not significant adequate
enough time to prepare and executing at such a high level.
It was. It was pretty cool, man, I was. I
was super happy. He told me weeks ago you had

(01:46):
the guy. Based on the stat line I saw being
floated around the inner webs, it looks like you got
the guy. I will have to contact your A V
department because multiple attempts to get the stream up and going,
It's like they didn't want me to show to see
what was going on right now. You want to keep
the secrets. Well, hopefully we get it put together and

(02:08):
do it a little bit better and go from there.
I don't know. I was focused in on the game,
I would hope, so I didn't hear about the stream
being up for a little bit until after the game
was over. So hopefully we'll be a little better moving forward. Yeah,
wherever you are listening in, we appreciate you. Of course.
On the vast Fox Sports Radio network, we're up to

(02:28):
six hundred affiliates now as part of what this company
has done, the growth year after year. I've been here
for a long time and I've watched it and multiply,
so it's a beautiful thing. But here in California, if
you didn't connect the dots of what we're talking about
week one of some high school football being played this

(02:50):
week and the long time coming short ramp up as
you alluded to, Like you guys can get running in
two to three weeks, right, Yeah, all right, everybody's been
working it out. Everybody's been you know, training, saying their
prayers and eating their vitamins like whole Cogan said all
those years ago. But once you finally get the the
green light to actually go play games, that's a pretty

(03:12):
quick ramp up. And it's good to see your squad
responded as well as they did with that. You and
your coaching staff getting it going. Yeah, I appreciate that.
And then listen to everybody out there that is competing
that that has been able to do it. I hope
they enjoyed it. I hope you all enjoyed it because
it uh as nerve racking as it was because I

(03:36):
had initially in my my head just came to the
conclusion that the season was was done. It was over,
um just the way things had unfolded, and then for
it to kind of come back around so suddenly and
so quickly. Uh, it's such a ramp up emotionally and mentally. Uh,

(03:57):
just the approach of it is even in a ramped up, quick,
rushed way to to try to uh prepare as quickly
as you can and prepare them um as quickly as
you can. So now it's like you gotta put put
in install for what you're gonna do offensively, what you're
gonna do defensively, what you're gonna try to do special

(04:20):
teams wise, how do you create a scouting report? You know,
there there was no exchanging of information, so you're just
really flying flying dark, you know, and and trying to
pull it together. And it really comes down to the
emotional welfare and well being of those young men that
that you are guiding and teaching, and the camaraderie and

(04:45):
the closeness of working together with with your coaching staff.
So I felt like we passed it with flying colors.
I won't say it's because of great leadership from the
head guy, but you know, I won't say I won't
not say that it's not because of that either. You
gotta take a little bit of the shine here, there's
no question about it. But you you talk about exchange

(05:05):
of information, going with a bunch of variables, it would
appear that a number of our top seeds in the
n C Double Aid Tournament this week did exactly that,
went without doing a lot of scouting, went without a
lot of tape review, uh, and kind of flying blind
as we saw a number of huge upsets. And for
those that that aren't in on March madness, a lot

(05:28):
of folks, you know, that's just not the thing right
college sports, you know, the bandwidth of what they give
their attention. Uh, They'll pay attention to the NBA and
their favorite team. They'll pay attention of course, to the
National Football League and the juggernaut that it is. Maybe
they'll fill out of bracket even if they flew absolutely
blindly into this one. LaVar. They have a better look

(05:50):
in bracket than mine is Uh, because I chose all
the wrong upsets. So mine's got a lot of red
marks all over the place. Uh, starting with the Ohio
State because I you know, got buffaloed into how strong
my conference is. Not that your team or mine is
playing any extra basketball this spring, bench State Northwestern at all.

(06:13):
But but our wrestling team won, so that, yeah, you got,
you guys won. We had a you know, as always
a bunch of Iowa guys and then Northwestern did their thing,
but we got four we got But that's what Penn
State does too, you know, we win national championships, even
if it's on the individual level. We'll take it where

(06:35):
we can get it. Uh. But you know, looking at
these upsets, Mike, I wasn't surprised. I don't. I don't
look at this as a trend. I mean, you have,
you know, obviously seemingly way more upsets than than what
we would have seen in years past. Um. You always

(06:56):
have a Cinderella story here and there, Um that that
aptures the hearts in the minds of of the onlookers. Uh,
I don't know that word. I don't know that anybody
is shocked or surprised by any of of the the
results that have taken place so far. And I think

(07:16):
it's purely based off of the circumstances of you know,
the crowds. I think that that's the singular biggest reason
why UM there there's probably more parity than just playing
the game because the environment is is almost it's a
neutral environment. And and so not to say that these

(07:38):
other teams are better than than these teams without them
having their their fan bases there, but every little thing matters,
every every edge, every every competitive UM you know, advantage
that you can gain UH plays a part when you
get to the tournament. So I don't to look at

(08:00):
this as being a trend moving forward though, to be
honest with you, But I do think that this is
one of those unique years in sports where you're going
to see UH teams that you might not have thought
would would like Texas Christian Abilee And I thought that
was a high school I would I didn't. I wouldn't
even known that that they were a college college program.

(08:23):
So it's just, you know, it's just one of those moments,
I would say enjoy it as a fan, but I
wouldn't get used to it. Yeah, I think we we
expected some chaos this year just based on what the
year has been, right that a lot of unknowns. How
psychologically perhaps a different way that you have to react
this year going into the bubble. And obviously we've seen

(08:46):
some of the footage behind the scenes, certainly on the
women's side, and the laughable would be the kind way
to describe the weight room scenario as it played out,
because that was just abhorrant. Uh, you've got private businesses. Yeah,
we've got trucks loaded and we'll get this equal as
soon as soon as we can. Uh. Just seemed an

(09:07):
unnecessary uh slight when you're you're looking at a climate
that is more got it got its microscope out for
all of those things right now, for everything right now.
So so the fact that you would have a half
open room, I mean I was waiting for the release
to be like, no, it wasn't a space thing. We

(09:28):
just thought there was yoga or be you know, do
some other dismissive kind of commentary there, and then they
claimed space. We saw the panorama, uh, of of the
space that was there, and it's just a couple of
empty chairs. Uh, and then a lot of blank, blank courts.
So you know, be better is the message there, and

(09:48):
there's a lot of that flowing out. But I think
just going into the bubble scenario, some teams are gonna
handle it better than others. Some respond to pressure better
than others. Some melted down. We saw in the Ohio
State game. Uh, late bad decisions, Uh, some misfree throws.
They missed nine free throws in that game. Love r.
We always talk about the take care of what you

(10:09):
can control. Hitting free throws. Uh, there's your number one,
especially when you're you're a guy going to the line
is uh, well one of your best on your squad.
But you see the upsets, how many of them that
were there not. I don't know that it was overwhelming.
I think it's just the big shockers and we haven't
done it for two years, which means every one of

(10:30):
them got magnified of Oh here it is. It's March.
This is why you love it and you will love it.
You better love it because it's back, right. So I
think there was something that the cheerleading and look, I've
enjoyed it from pillar to post. Going back to Thursday's games,
which we have to get into the coaching situation. I
know on up on game yesterday, you guys addressed it

(10:53):
a little bit, but I don't know that you got
your full say when it comes to what happened with
Michigan State in that game against the u c l
A Bruins. Uh in a big win for u c
l A. And then they went out and dominated on
Saturday afternoon. But the tom is zoh Gabe Brown scenario

(11:14):
is to some degree the coaching nightmare again owing to well,
the walls have years and everything seen at this point.
So we'll get into that in about five minutes from now.
But Abilene Christian it's about two and a half hours
west of Dallas. Uh that you're talking about a five
million dollar in downlet, which isn't huge, academic staff only

(11:35):
two hundred and only fifty three hundred students. Hm, there
you go, Willie the Wildcat. Gee. That sounds familiar, Ted
Dent as the mascot gate abouts. But congratulations Oral Roberts,
North Texas, the mean Green Ohio University taking care of Virginia.

(11:58):
They were uh, well, they they had a rough run, right,
where they had to uh number of days off. But
when you if you can't score, you can't score. And
obviously Abilene Christian UH, we had the Virginia Commonwealth Oregon
game that got called out called off I should say
UH for COVID protocols. Yeah, and we we had been

(12:21):
made to understand that if you had enough players to
start the game, that you would be allowed to. But
given that the positive tests were not revealed and enough
time to go through protocols properly, that they decided best
to not ex potentially expose UH, Oregon and other teams

(12:43):
in the bracket. And I can't say that that was
not the wise thing to do. I know some immediately
got into handwringing, but it goes back to if if
one team goes to the wayside, you feel for the kids,
you feel for the program, there's no question. But as
you and I have said, for you're you're going on
on this show, LaVar show goes on. It not only

(13:05):
goes on, but everybody has to deal with pretty much
seemingly the same circumstances. So if if you have to
overcome being in the bubble and overcome, you know how
things are being handled based upon COVID, so do the
other teams. So the darrests or the pressure or the

(13:28):
emotional uh stability of how you approach the tournament or
even the season, because we saw teams take steps back
even before the tournament and and they weren't achieving at
a high level. So everybody's got to deal with the
same circumstances. And and to me, that's what still makes

(13:48):
the the sanctity of the arena of competition um so amazing.
You know, I'll just reference back to our game on
Friday night as it a lies to the tournament that's
taking place, is you know what, like to see our
guys execute and and one of our biggest, our biggest

(14:11):
messages to to the guys is block out the noise,
you know, and and be prepared to to compete. Because
competition doesn't see race color, it doesn't see economic status,
it doesn't see who your parents are, it doesn't care.

(14:32):
It purely exists within the competition. And and that's what's
to me, that's why sports is is so amazing. Well
the best live theater, live drama that you can possibly
get unscripted from pillar to post, and we certainly saw
it number of big moments in the first round. That's

(14:52):
the great thing about it. We're just beginning the second round. Yes,
the schedule thrown off the day. Yeah, the first four
on on Thursday night and then first round Friday, Saturday.
So we've still got a lot of games to be
played today and even on on Monday. That's right. And
I know the Challenger and Christmas UH surveys already out

(15:14):
to tell you how much money is being lost in
the economy. It's one of my favorite stories. Every year.
I chronicle it here every year. The last estimate was
thirteen billion. I know Andy and Brian touched down this
briefly ahead of us Andy Furman Brian No ahead of
us every week here on Fox Sports Radio that they
they estimated thirteen billion, and that was from a couple

(15:35):
of years ago. Who knows what what true numbers are,
but I would argue that everybody going out for their
smoke breaker coffee break, I'd like to see the survey
of what that cost to just you know, whenever sports
gets thrown in and it becomes a pejorative of look
what they're doing wasting time, it's like, how about checking
their browser history? About checking uh, you know, how many

(15:58):
times they're They're going, we're just playing with their dog,
not that the dog goes don't need love. Don't get
me wrong, I love mine, but uh, I don't know
that they do a bunch of surveys based on that. Anyway.

with you, getting it rolling here on a Sunday morning.
Full n C double a slate men's side women's tournament
gets going later on today, uh coming down the stretch
of preseason yes spring training baseball. Another couple of weeks, Uh,
Pete were retired, So maybe I'll watch some old bowling clips.
I mean, there's just so much that you've got to

(18:05):
try to fit in over the course of the day.
My daughter is already up and stretching, ready to go
and get back on the pitch for another day. So
you gotta love, yeah, get the day started. She's got
a double header, so she's up and moving and probably
not listening to me, probably off listening to some some
random show tunes, maybe some Hamilton. Yeah, no, you gotta

(18:26):
felt it, dad, mate, Cracking jokes is going to take
you out of that stretching routine. I think. Don't be
the one that's ill prepared mentally dial in and then block.
Like I said, block out the noise. This is a
time to block out the noise. And you know that's
that's about it. That's that's that's how it makes sense

(18:48):
for me. See. And then all I want to do
now is here um Anthrax and Public Enemy singing, bring
the noise, because that's what I love to do. Yeah.
There you go, live from the Farmers Asurance Sports Radio studios.
You can call Farmers Today for a quote now. Uh.
And we talked in the first part of the hour
about coaching and getting back out there and all the

(19:10):
trials tribulations. You've been open about some of the uh
the hurdles that you've had as a coach, uh at
slash administrator, right, because that's the other part of the
job that folks don't see, is trying to make everybody,
you know, see the same vision between the players, the parents,
guardians all the way through to the school administrators. And

(19:34):
on Thursday night, we had the altercation, as it's been termed,
between Tom Izo and Gabe Brown as they went into
halftime Michigan State with an eleven point lead, seemingly all
going right except on a defensive assignment switch, so Ho
Kaz was able to get a jumper off as time expired.

(19:55):
That ended up becoming the jump start to what was
a great second half and overtime period for the u
c l A Bruins. But it's one of those circumstances
that we we will never know all of the ins
and outs. We just know that they were upset, player
was upset at himself, and then the snatch of the

(20:16):
arm as Brown tried to go up the tunnel. The
To me, it looked as if it was the why
aren't you paying attention to me? You know, so snatch
of the arm to turn him back. But you're talking about,
you know, getting the attention of a fired up you
know six eight player, Um, just pull him back that
you have a bit of an exchange. But here was

(20:39):
Tom zoh uh reacting after the game to the questions
about this situation. You guys are beautiful. Yeah, he missed
a play and I told him, and he walked away,
and so I told him to come back. I mean,
we went through this couple of years ago. UM, a
game like that, that's the question you're gonna ask me.

(21:00):
I'll guess I'll answer it because the media has the
right to ask what every question. But we'll get him
in here and you can ask him. I mean, it
was it was a normal nothing. It just that this
day and age, everything is something. I think the last line, uh,
the last two lines there are everything for me because
in the moment on Thursday, I think Jason Smith and
I as we were reacting live to the tournament LaVar,

(21:22):
I think I mentioned it for about eighteen seconds coming
out of an update. That's about as much as I
gave it. And now it's a big story, and then
it became a seventy two our firestorm of new age
thoughts of coaching is is oh, you know outdated? Is his?

(21:42):
Are his methods lost? You know, hasn't won a tournament
since two thousand. I remind everybody that winning tournaments, it's
it's not like Tom Brady winning Super Bowls. No, nobody's
cracked the formula to consistently win tournaments. Uh in the
n C Double A. You know, just for that little
spoiler note for folks, but from from your coaching perspective, obviously,

(22:05):
you know you're under a microscope and we've seen some
pretty egregious things through the years. Where where did this rate?
Just in terms of the optics for you? Well, that's
the whole thing. It is the optics of it. And
when you see something like that take place, it is
a sign of the times. I think. I recall having
conversations on our very show about having to I guess

(22:31):
address as as a coach and my my role and
my duty at at a Christian school. Um, the way
I communicated it was the optics of it was I
seemed like a bully and I'm like the furthest thing
away from being a bully. When I scream, I always
say when I scream, I'm screaming to you. I'm not

(22:53):
screaming at you. So if I'm screaming at you, it's
it's the play is coming here, or get your feet right,
or you're in the wrong gap, you know, getting the
right gap, and and but it's the optics. So while
my message maybe fine, perfectly, perfectly well delivered, uh well intended,

(23:18):
I went through a time where I had to deal
with talking with UH superiors of of administration at the
school based upon parents complaining. So when you when I
look at it from where we are now, with how
parents are and and how things are handled with their kids,

(23:39):
it's not about what is O feels and and Gabe feel.
It's about what parents feel. It's about what the onlookers feel.
And and that's that's what I think. When when you
hear tom Izzo's uh his sound bite, he doesn't mention

(24:00):
the fact that I grabbed him and pulled him back.
He says I told him or I wanted him to
come back, whatever however it is that he said it.
But there was nothing about what he said that addressed
it directly. And and Mike I thought that was a
miss as a coach because he knew what they were

(24:21):
asking him, and he probably should have addressed it in
a way where he brought some or shed some light
on on his method of getting gay brown back UM
to Yeah. Yeah. So to me, I think that that
was a miss because you left it open where you're

(24:41):
you're almost brushing it off, you know. And and in
the sound bite it's it's like, Oh, he doesn't even care,
like ask him. He's laughing, he's chuckling, he's and and
maybe he knew the severity that it could take on.
Maybe he did. Sometimes old school UM coaches don't understand

(25:04):
the sign of the times. They said, you know, the
things we're going through as a society right now are
the things that that basically, uh, why the dinosaurs aren't
here anymore. If you if you can't survive the change, uh,
you'll you'll be out of here. There has to be
an evolution for you to be able to survive. And

(25:27):
right now, for good or for worse, Mike, the era,
the day and age that we live in with technology,
the empowerment and and and social justice discussions, the sensitivity
to everything being politically correct, the new line of what

(25:47):
political correctness represents. I mean, all of these things are
are elements that have to be it's evolved and adjusted
to or you will die. Bobby Knight would not be
able to coach in today's culture, in today's society. A
lot of old school coaches that we've known love would

(26:11):
never survive in these environments. They would not be able
to thrive. And in such an empowered environment, you're noticing
a shift and a focal point of the athlete, the minority,
the correctness. Everything is trying to go in the direction

(26:35):
of away from authoritative figures and empowerment to those who
have have have been underneath it or or have been
oh need I say, oppressed by it. Um these times
are changing and you can't ignore it anymore. So you
can either get on board with it and be able

(26:56):
to to to thrive in it and figure out how
to thrive in it, or you gotta fall victim to
I guess, Mike, yeah, I think we we look at
the large s, right. It's part of it is you
would adapt to the times, one would think, right, and
so if you were starting now, like if if if
a Bob Knight is starting now, is he as successful.

(27:16):
Maybe maybe not, But would he would it be? You know,
you'd have to learn the rules of engagement are different.
And tom Izo being in the game as long as
he has still working on the old rules where the
ends justify the means to a degree, and you know
what happens in the program as long as we're good
with it inside the program, it moves on. Well now

(27:40):
right now with TVs and the internet and everything else,
maybe that gets blown up. How many folks you know
had no idea of context saw that and immediately came
to the decision. I'm with you if if Iso had
just addressed it like look, I had to get his attention,
so I grabbed his arm, even if just one extra
sentence probably changes how it lose for the next forty

(28:01):
eight hours thereafter. Yeah, I thought that was but you
know who knows, everybody bites on every little thing, and
that was a biteable tip bit for people to jump on.
I thought that the weight room situation was a way better, Uh,
one of those social justice situations to focus in on.

(28:26):
But everything doesn't have to turn into a social justice movement.
Tom Izzoh, grabbing his arm isn't outcry for equality and
and and it being a social justice issue, you know,
And I just feel like that's for me. I I

(28:49):
you know, if you if you if you hit something
so many times and it gets injured over and over again,
the body tries to callous and harden and eventually you
don't feel it anymore. And and that's kind of what
what It's a dangerous place when you get to a

(29:11):
point of where you're looking at what is OH did
with the player and how they handle one another. And
you can look at many many historical moments, I mean
from exchanges between Isaiah Thomas and and UH his coach
right like I said, I mentioned earlier at Indiana, UH

(29:32):
with Bobby Knight. You you can look at you can
look at many, many of examples in basketball where there
are heated and fiery exchanges. I think that when you
start to when when these issues, these social issues become
a major, major, major driving point of the narratives of

(29:57):
of sports, you're running into a a very very dangerous,
dangerous place because the one thing you would never want
to do is alter the approach of of how a
coach and a player's relationship is to be molded. Now

(30:17):
that's not to say the coach shouldn't awaited and got
behind closed doors and have that exchange. But in the
heat of the moment, both of them were in the moment.
Both of them were in the spirit. And sometimes, Mike,
those are the moments where you build the strongest bonds.
There's a trust, there's there's an element of of um

(30:39):
molding and shaping iron, iron shaping iron, and it's just,
you know, when when you get into these type of moments,
it gets very dangerous because if you cut the legs
out from under these influencers and these guides that in
some cases are the only influences, positive influences and positive

(31:01):
guides that these people have. Um, if I didn't have that,
I mean I had great parents, but if I didn't
have the guidance and the heart molding of what I
endored with my coaches, I wouldn't be the person that
I am today. There's there's something to be said, and
it's not to you know, pit generations against one another.

(31:24):
But you know, being told you were wrong and you're
not perfect is uh you know, or you made a
mistake is not the worst thing. There's some real interesting
here's a participation trophy for you. Yeah, listen, I don't
subscribe to it. But I don't have a problem with
the whole participation trophy thing. I it is what it

(31:46):
is with that. But when you get into the altering
of what a two people's relationship patterns are going to be,
knowing that the heart of the person is their intent
is correct, their their motivation is correct, I just think
that you get into a very very dangerous place. Um,

(32:09):
and and that as that applies to the young men
and women that compete, and and and what what their
future trajectory looks like, because I don't know that you
can get the best of you and get the best
of someone else when you have to live under those
type type of circumstances. There it is. It's LaVar Arrington

(32:31):
at LaVar Arrington at King of the Mammals on Instagram.
I thought you got short changed. I was driving around
yesterday and Plasco took up all the air from that conversation. UH.
You can find up on Game, Apple, Podcast, Google Play,
wherever you get your audio. I Heart Radio, UH the app.
UH find all of it there. Look for Fox Sports Weekends,

(32:52):
UH Arrington and Harmon UH, and of course up on Game. UH.
This is part of the bonus content two up on games,
so that give it five stars. Keep it growing. We
appreciate each and every one of you. But now for
the news of the day, for everything that's going on
in our world, it's isa. There is plenty. Good morning, Michael,

(33:12):
Good morning Lavarre. More big upsets in the n C
Double A Tournament Saturday, fourteen seed Abilene Christian taking down
three seed Texas fifty three to fifty two on Joe
Pleasant's game winning two free throws with one second left.
Thirteen seed Ohio upsetting defending national champion Virginia sixty two
to fifty eight. The other winners Saturday Alabama, Iowa, Kansas,

(33:36):
Florida State, Creighton, Colorado, l s U Michigan, USC Maryland, Oklahoma, Gonzaga,
and U C l A Oregon advancing after their game
with Virginia. Commonwealth was declared a no contest because of
positive COVID test in the VCU program and the NBA.
Lebron James gonna be out indefinitely with a high right

(33:57):
ankle sprain, the injury occurring when James rolled up on
by Atlanta's Solomon Hill on Saturday during the Hawks win
over the Lakers. James tweeting quote, nothing angers and saddens
me more than not being available to and for my teammates.
The roadback from recovery begins now back soon like I
never left unquote. For his part, Solomon Hill, tweeting quote,

(34:21):
would never disrespect the game and take a player out purposely.
He knows that that's all that matters to me. Praying
for a speedy recovery. Hashtag r I p to the mentions, though,
hashtag more d m s than Sweetie unquote. That, of
course a reference to Sweedie's newly single status after her

(34:41):
recent breakup with Quevo Michael and the bar back teaching
me all sorts of new things. Well, you should have
added to that report that Kuevo got that dollar car back.
I'm still on team Sweetie. Okay, he gifted her, He
gifted her one convertible Bentley, and I think I'll take

(35:03):
that back now. I don't know. I i'd i'd go
through the gifted to make sure I have popped off
any social media that talked about it being a gift,
and I'd say, come get it, bring your lawyers. Poem,
Well you gave it to me. Do what do I
have the pig slip. That's really all it comes down to.

(35:24):
Thanks Ilo at Isaac Lowan Ground and coming up in
an hour, we will go off the rails with Ilo,
as we do each week. Mike Arment alongside LaVar Arrington
and welcome back in. It's the Farmer's Insurance. Fox Sports
Radio Studios call one eight eight Farmers to switch. You
could say a bundle on your auto insurance? When is
a three not a three? Everybody's been complaining for weeks

(35:46):
about the ruination of the NBA. One executive gets creative
and has a solution. Are you buying? That's next on
Fox had to let that horn make its appearance. Here
Mike Arment alongside LaVar Arrington. This is Fox Sports Sunday
and we are live from the Farmers Insurance. Fox Sports
Radio Studios called one eight eight eight eight. How many

(36:10):
eights did I do? One eight eight eight Farmers, And
you can save a whole lot of something on auto insurance. Well,
I was trying to hit the high hat while I
was doing it, too bad, bad job, trying to do
a little bit of multitasking by me. What if NBA
three porters were worth two point five points? LaVar many
people bemoaning the ease and the proliferation with which teams

(36:34):
are just um bombing away from three point range, uh, saying, quote,
there's so many more people can shoot threes wide open
that can be efficient fifteen and in it's too big
of a bonus, right. You wanted the three pointers so
people would have to space the floor and get more
dynamic play, which is worked, but then they gave it
too much. That's Darryl Morey of the Philadelphia seventies sixers

(36:58):
on in a podcast called The Right to Ricky Sanchez.
Not not familiar with that one. We'll have to check
that out, but he was trying to go through the
process saying, hey, we've got eighty plus three point shots
per game. I think part of it he's trying to
get some value back to his guy Ben Simmons, who
can't shoot one. But you know, you know how you

(37:20):
and no, I don't think you adjust the point scoring
system because so many people are doing it. First and
foremat I just add the four point play for when
Steph Curry pulls up from and you can't move it
back like they've done in years past because you don't
have enough room um to do it so, I mean,

(37:41):
you're already talking about guys who have size forever feet
and they're almost out of bounce right now going to
the corners to shoot free shoot three pointers? Well, that's
a question. Do you need to extend the court like
That's that's my offshoot of this. Does it become you
have to widen the court to make that three point

(38:01):
shot a more difficult shot? I mean that's a conversation.
But again, are you going to make the football feel
bigger longer because guys are bigger, stronger, and faster. Do
you want to spread it out more? You know? To me,

(38:21):
I think that we talked about evolution in the last segment,
and I think that that's what exists here as well, Mike,
is just evolution. As things evolve, some thing's really really
have the opportunity to stay the same. And and and
so when I look at where where the basketball is

(38:43):
and how the three pointer has become such an easy shot,
that's not because it's easy to make the shot. It's
the amount of time and preparation that's going into making
those shots. In particular, they talk about how the down
low game has has disappeared and has gone away. You

(39:04):
got people like Joel and Beat who would have been
Shaquille O'Neill and in generations passed running around out in
the perimeter, land crossing people over shooting three pointers. So
I think what what will happen is is that that
history will find a way to to cycle through and

(39:25):
repeat itself. Just as the fullback has has disappeared and
the running back has been minimized because you went away
from running the football in in in the game of
football to throw throwing the ball and airing it out
on almost every play. Uh, it'll just take a time
where we're running backs are more um established, Um, they're

(39:48):
they're re established. And I think you got to re
establish the down low game. And maybe at some point
the presence of being on the block and then the
key and getting points in the paint will be come
important again and and and and so people won't have
to look at the three point as being the do
or die and and you know kind of the dependent

(40:12):
dependent points system, um that's connected to winning games well,
and that that's the larger thing is you need the
sample size of you know, the old formulas still work.
And when everybody's zigging, what do you do in business?
What do you do in your your personal life trying
to make some gains you uh useagg So I think
it's the same thing here is that you look at

(40:33):
the success that Philadelphia has had. Their two best best
players don't shoot three point shots, and we'll see I mean,
obviously Golden State change things in terms of the frequency
Steph Curry, they win a couple of titles, They bring
in Kevin Durant uh and keep the thing moving. So
you know that that one you you kind of hang

(40:53):
hang a star on when you talk about your super
team process. But in terms of the game overall, I'm
with you. So like if I've got a big guy, yeah,
do I want him to be able to pop out
and shoot a three? Kind of like Milwaukee would hope
that Johannese becomes more efficient in that regard. Sure, but
you don't want him to be over reliant because the

(41:13):
strength of his game is going to the whole YEA.
So trying to find that balance, uh ands, as we say,
try not to get cute, uh dance with who brung
yet as it were sometimes changing, Remember who you are,
isn't that MoU Fassa wasn't even yelling about that from
cud See. There you go. He's LaVar Arrington. I'm Mike Carmen.

(41:36):
This Fox Sports Sunday. We get into de Shaun Watson next,
welcome in. It's an hour two of the program Fox
Sports Sunday. Mike Carmen alongside can't get the mammals himself,
three time pro bowler. They all American. LaVar Arrington broadcasting
live from the Farmer's Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios. When
you switch to Farmers, you could save a bundle. All

(42:00):
you have to do is call one eight eight Farmers
you can get a quote. Today. We are welcome back in,
LaVar A crazy week in the National Football League. The
legal tampion tampering period ended and so he started seeing
money being thrown about. We saw the largest of the

(42:20):
new TV deal that got everybody salivat. I think it
informs some of the decisions free agents made in terms
of the down distance okay, the size of their deals
in length, uh, particularly going back to Pittsburgh. That was
one of my arguments on the Juju Smith Schuster deal.
But one thing we can't get away from, even when

(42:41):
we're talking about celebrating guys coming to new teams, is
the growing story out of Houston related to Deshaun Watson,
and it grows more unwieldy, potentially uglier by the day. Certainly,
the number of cases now that you're looking for, uh

(43:02):
and looking at here have grown over the last seventy
two hours. When it was a single accusation, I think
many folks were in the wait and see category. And
then as it grew, it became a little a little
less pushed that off it, and it's like, all right,
let's try to wrap our arms around this, right because

(43:24):
now you're talking about potentially considering criminal charges, convening a
grand jury, and we've got Tony Buzzby going up against
Rusty Harden, two prominent attorneys in Texas, and Rusty Harden,
who's defended a number of players through the years, saying
that they'll have their response early this week and we'll

(43:47):
wait to see what what gets pushed on everything else
going in as a bundle to the police. According to Buzzby,
Tony Buzzby, the lawyer representing the women and um as
of right now, it's the okay, here are some salacious details.
The ideas that there are some texts that you know

(44:10):
where he's apologizing for potentially making people uncomfortable. Some of
that the veracity of those still has to be established,
right as to those really coming from a Deshaun Watson account.
So we have that, and you have his history that
is being put up as look at what Deshaun Watson's

(44:31):
overcome and look at the man he's been in the community.
So you've got and then further over here is still hey,
is he going to be traded and to whom? Because
that part of the conversation was and still is part
of it. As the domino's fall for this offseason, if

(44:52):
you think you'd legitimately have a chance to land him
because of the acrimonious, uh nature of the relationship with
the Texans, then you're you're not pushing that off. But certainly,
as this case grew and the number of allegations grew,
perhaps not uh the football side as administered to and

(45:13):
looked at the same way as we're trying to decide
and determine what Roger Goodell and others do it with
all the information at hand, This one is complex because
I'm trying to figure out I'm trying to figure out
where did the accusations come from? All of a sudden

(45:37):
because these these the dates that are connected to the
complaints are in another year, a year going back to
last year. And and so the first question I asked,
whether for for right or for wrong? Mike right? Why now,

(45:57):
that's the first thing that uh, you know, I've been
asking myself. I don't care. Honestly, I don't really care
about the idea that the lawyer representing this, this group
of women coming out against Watson used to live in
the same neighborhood as as the owner of of the team.

(46:18):
I don't, I really don't. I don't subscribe to the
all of these conspiracy theories of connecting those type of
dots because for me, I'm looking at it as why
now did it come out? For one? For two? Why
are so many so many people coming forward? Now we've

(46:42):
watched this happen now with a few other people. UM.
I won't go into names because I don't want to
make Deshaun Watson guilty. UM in in the court of
public opinion. I'm just saying we have seen this happen before,
where once one came out and was bold enough and

(47:03):
brave enough to say what they were feeling about what
took place and what happened, more came Now again, I
made mention of this earlier in speaking of how our
culture has has continued to change and to evolve into
a place of where everything is an issue. And so

(47:25):
now this is one of those conversations where it's like
you don't ever want to get to a point of
where things are done so much that you lose the
feeling of when something like this takes place. And and
and honestly speaking, I think a lot of people are

(47:47):
conflicted with this, this this story because part of you
wants to say, Deshaun Watson is being set up well,
and that's where you get into all the conspiracy theories.
Did try to push yourself down that that road, right,
but but when you mentioned, as you did, the Bob
McNair right aspect. But the other aspect of it is

(48:11):
what if these girls have truly been put in this position,
you cannot the true complexity of this is that you
cannot just dismiss and devalue what these young women are saying.
And that's you know, that's one of those those things

(48:32):
where it's like if you if you give it too much,
It's like you gave these these people too much of
a voice or now everybody's going to have to deal
with it because they're sneaky and they're shady and they're hustling.
But what if they're not? What if they're not? And
I think that that's the biggest dilemma in situations like this. Again,

(48:56):
I will always bring up in State and and and
use that as an example. So please forgive me. If
you're out there and you're saying those girls are hustlers
and they ain't nothing but but all about the money,
you have to forgive me. Because when the things started
bubbling up and it went from like one kid to

(49:20):
two kids, to five kids, two more kids that were
coming out and had things to say. The entire time, Mike,
it was always the conversation of are these kids lying?
Are they just trying to get a check? And I
feel as though that is a very very very hard

(49:45):
topic and a conversation to broach and and and broach
it in a way where you're coming from a balanced standpoint. Now,
I don't know how how much that exists here in
this scenario, but I'm not gonna be dismissive to the
ladies that are are having accusations. I'm gonna listen to

(50:09):
what information is presented. This is one of those situations
where you you do not make yourself look good either
way if you come out and definitively say somebody is wrong,
whether it be the women who are accusing him or
Deshaun Watson himself. Yeah, it is. It is one right

(50:31):
now where you're just trying to wrap your arms around it,
dismissing it categorically. Uh, foolhardy as you know some might do,
would just say, hey, stick to football. Uh, it's a big,
big thing for the National Football League. Quite obviously, Watson
and deciding he wants out of Houston became the story. Right.
We've had bubble ups and there's still potentially we'll get

(50:54):
into Russell Wilson a little later on in the show. Uh.
And you've had other quarter acts you know who have
had you know, public beef. Go back to Aaron Rodgers
appearing with with Pat McAfee and some of the stuff
he had said, uh, coming out of their defeat, et cetera.
But this one, you know, in in Deshaun Watson's case,

(51:15):
there's just been a lot of absence of specificity other
than all right, you know, he doesn't want to play
for them anymore. But we haven't really heard it from him, right,
So he had become the the football case of wow,
is are they going to acquiesce and trade him? Or
is he going to sit out? So it became theater
in that way. And then the first accusation hits. And

(51:37):
we've seen one two accusations here and there against players
at all levels, and and in some cases they've been
dismissed pretty fast, right, and found out to be as
crassly as its term the cash grap In this case,
it starts to proliferate, starts to grow and and spin

(52:00):
into up to twenty two cases, right, twelve different lawsuits
already filed that you've got to sit back and say, okay,
we've got a pattern of behavior. Here is their veracity,
you know what, what's the truth of what's being said

(52:20):
by by these women and trying to sort through and
I think the first day you could get caught up
in the lawyer because he made it about himself off
the jump, which raised the eyebrows. Right. The first Facebook
post that he put up gave basically his family circumstances,
which sounded more like a closing argument to put my

(52:42):
law and order watching legal hat on at least day one,
But then as the week goes on and you see
more and more accounts, and there's been one person on
Twitter who's come forward alleging to be um massuse for
Shaun Watson, who you know said that it was purely

(53:02):
professional and that she had no issues. Yeah, there's one.
But again trying to go back through check the boxes
of all these incidences, and now you're calling out a
grand jury. Uh, there's a long way from don here.
And as we've seen with Roger Goodell, under the Personal
Conduct Policy, you don't need to go to a court

(53:25):
of law. You don't need to lose in a court
of law to get a suspension from the league. Right,
We've seen it a number of times where it's the
protect the shield, and I think we've already hit that
point based on the amount of publicity and where this
case is, unless it's dismissed categorically in short order. For

(53:47):
the the league, you know they're doing their due diligence,
but we've seen them act rashly and inconsistently in the past.
I have no no vote of confidence that that they
don't potentially do the same here and I think that
that's why, because part of you wants to say, in

(54:08):
a situation like this, why is football even being brought
into the conversation. You're talking about a civil suit, which
is going to be called into question. Why did they
go straight forward civil suit? Why didn't they seek a
criminal charge? For one? That that should be stated. Secondly, Secondly,

(54:30):
it's like, why are we putting football in a situation
like this? Well, what you just said. Now it becomes
the conversation of does Deshaun Watson become unattractive to trade
for knowing that this has now surfaced and hit hit

(54:52):
the media, So what what is his status going to be?
How how much is his value? Does this give Houston
grounds to go after his money? There's so many different
storylines or plot twists um and something like this UM
for this to come up the way that it did.

(55:14):
But to think that this is just there's nothing there
that it's hard. It's hard when you can get up
to nine people. That's hard for me to to justify
that there is absolutely nothing there. That's just hard for me.

(55:35):
But again, because of the complexities, the timing, the questions
surrounding UM this, it's it's a time bit curious to me, um,
So I just want to wait and see before I
have a strong, definitive opinion on it, because again, I
think you put cake in your face if you sit

(55:58):
there and you go so hard, are for one side
versus the other? In in a situation like this, it's
very easy to say that Deshaun Watson is being set up.
But it would also, from another perspective, be very easy
to justify why you would think it is Deshaun Watson
that that did these things. So I just think this

(56:22):
is going to be one of those ones where if
if it does turn out that there's something to it
and he gets disciplined, how does that play out for
the trade and all this other stuff. Mike, I think
that's gonna be some I mean this, it could be
the biggest story in sports for the entire year, no
question about it. Here's the quote from buzzby quote. Our
team will be submitting affidavits and evidence from several women

(56:45):
who had experienced with Shaun Watson to the Houston Police
Department and the Houston District Attorney on Monday morning. Will
request that a grand jury being paneled to consider the
evidence we provide. I've started following in doing this show
and doing my show with Jason's myth during the week
seven to eleven Pacific time. Uh in the evenings, uh,

(57:05):
a lot of lawyers and defense attorneys, prosecutors, etcetera. One
one lawyer in New York providing sworn statements and quote
locking in the witnesses before a prosecutor conducts the investigation
will be advantageous to Watson in the event of a prosecution.
So opinions are out there from a number of lawyers

(57:26):
as well as as to just procedurally how Buzzby's approached this,
so uh, learning as we go, LaVar, That's that's what
we do. Uh. And and try to make the civils
came after though don't like historically or or just well
you know the most famous Yeah we do. We do
it right or Enthal or I like calling him or

(57:51):
rent theal nheal adding that, yeah, I don't know why,
but because it sounds better to me, Well, we just say,
oh j uh. The O. J. Simpson trial, as we remember,
acquitted and then the civil civil suit came so uh
and and generally that's my understanding of how it flows.

(58:12):
But here we are one maybe get the other as
we get more and more information. He's Laviarrington. I'm Mike Karmen.
This is Fox Sports Sunday. We're broadcasting live from the
Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios. Call one eight Farmers
to switch. You could save an average of four it
or seventy dollars on your auto insurance. That's a lot
of money for a quick phone call, don't you think
average nationwide annual savings based on survey data from July

(58:36):
to December. We are had to get that one in
clean to make sure you knew you could save four
hundred seventy dollars. That's a lot of bones. There's a
couple of coins. Well, I mean it would allow you
to buy a bigger blowtorch for your cooking expeditions. Well,

(58:57):
bigger blowtorches can sometimes be better, but sometimes the ones
that you have served the purpose quite well. And we're
gonna leave that alone. It's Fox Sports Sunday. He's LaVar
Arrington on My Carmen. Coming up next, we go over
to the wonderful world of New York where they've got
a new wide receiver. We'll talk about it next. Welcome

(59:18):
back in. It's Fox Sports Sunday. Mike Carmon alongside LaVar Arrington.
He's coming off a victorious Friday night, still celebrating, alright,
he was last night saw that coach is good Man.
That was good. Yeah, it was good. It was a
good dinner. Uh, great conversation, great planning. Um yeah, it's

(59:41):
uh something to build on. So that's just it, right,
step one, keep moving forward, like we say, with everything
you know, and we'll do the find your win segment
at the end of the show. But every little day,
every day, you gotta find something little that motivate you
to push to the next all right, in that first step,
the long road begins with the first step. Right. That's

(01:00:02):
some old proverb I always credited to Ed Farmer, just
because I celebrate the memory of the late White Sox
closer slash broadcaster. But uh, new beginnings has been the
theme of the week in the National Football League. We
talked a little about Deshaun Watson, who was hoping for
some new and now he's embroiled in a whole other,

(01:00:23):
uh off field issue. But for many other players, they're
inky new deal some one two years uh, and we
were watching the wide receiver market. Set up LaVar with
with great anticipation. Obviously, UM A lot of debate as
to the decision made by Juju Smith Schuster to go
back to the Steelers on a one year, eight million

(01:00:46):
dollar deal with reportedly and I always triple underscore that word,
reportedly much more robust offers, particularly by Baltimore. Baltimore, as
we pinpointed all season long, give me Lamar Jackson with
one other receiver, uh, and that offense changes. UH still
hasn't found him as if yet. But the other side

(01:01:09):
of the coin, former Detroit Lions stand out Kenny Golladay
reportedly agreeing to a four year, seventy two million dollar
deal with the New York Football Giants. I think they're
going all in to decide. All right, Daniel Jones, are
you got our guy? Or are you not here in
year three? Mm hmm, well, uh, that's a that's a

(01:01:34):
large number. Let's let me start with Juju. The Juju
conversation is him. I mean, he's such a influencer and
and other other aspects of celebrity. I mean, he's he's
done an excellent job of building his brand and being Um,

(01:01:55):
I believe it's tick talking. Um, come on, I see
you on there. All the time. I don't don't make
yourself sound old. I think it's TikTok that he uses
when he was dancing on the on the logos and
and so when you when you think about Juju and

(01:02:16):
and his influence, you got a way and measure what
are you generating money wise financially and and your brand
being connected to the situation in the area it's in
right now as it speaks, and you don't just measure
and weigh that out in terms of Okay, it's strictly

(01:02:36):
the contract that I'm going to get from the team.
And that's what's happening in so many other sectors, like
what what's possibly going to happen in college. You're going
to start measuring and weighing things out based off of
what opportunities can be presented to you and building your
brand and leveraging that brand to be able to generate
revenue off of your likeness. So I think that that

(01:03:00):
becomes a question of is he more valuable? Is his
brand more valuable taking you know, keeping his talent in
Pittsburgh and taking less money, or is it is it
more valuable to go somewhere else and start over again
And hope that your brand can can stand, you know,

(01:03:22):
withstand the move moving forward. Now in terms of of
the other conversation with seventy five million dollars, Well, why
don't we why don't we put a pin in him
for a second. Let's stay with Schuster, smit Schuster for
another minute. You'll be hit me. You'd be unloading on me.
You know, I'll be trying to keep up with the unload.
So go ahead, let's put a pen and put a

(01:03:43):
pin in that one, because that one's uh, because they've
made some other moves. Then giants get into that would
you do? Would you say? Part of it also though
it becomes the bet on yourself like one are the
few guys to get a second contract from the Steelers
as a wide receiver. That's got to be noted. I
on in some articles citing these the first really since

(01:04:04):
heinz ward uh in that regard. So normally get your
years and then move on, because they've always been pretty
astute in the selection of white outs. But part of
it being with this new deal signed by the by
the league and broadcasters, that perhaps he's anticipating, all right,
I'll have another good year ninety seven catches seventy six

(01:04:26):
percent catch rd off of Ben Roethlisberger targets that the
market for him might be a little hotter next year,
that maybe he can get a bigger deal elsewhere, and
that could be a play as well. He's basically doing
a de facto franchise. Take you know, right, take take
your eight million. Everything you said is absolutely true. You

(01:04:48):
want to talk about a guy building a brand, and
he made it very clear in the process that he
wanted to be back in Pittsburgh, just didn't know if
that was gonna happen, so like, and no, at no
point did he ever say, Hey, it was a good run,
I'll see you all in Hell. I mean, and then
that was not the case at all, right, because well,
I mean, that's how it's portraying some like when guys

(01:05:08):
posts like, no, they're not saying waving goodbye. Categorically it's
the I enjoy it here. But the reality is that
might not be And if you're active on social media,
at some point you have to address it. Otherwise that
question is still gonna come at you thousands of times
a day. Yeah, yeah, I mean, that's that's that's real,
and you gotta take advantage of your opportunities and you

(01:05:30):
you know, you gotta you gotta make the decisions that
are best for you. And and as you mentioned earlier,
betting on himself, maybe that's exactly what he did. I mean,
maybe you're looking at someone who's like, listen, maybe I
could have had a better year than what I did,
and instead of making this a thing or going somewhere
else and getting more money, I'm going to prove that

(01:05:53):
I should get paid here and I'm going to prove that, uh,
you know, I can make this work. You know, I
think I think it should be stated that some of
these guys are showing some some real business acumen um
and and I know and years past this is this

(01:06:14):
has been a part of our game, but it's not
something that's praised or focused on, reported about, talked about
every so often. You hear guys Steve Young he did
his own contracts, data I saw, and so forth. But
I think that you're seeing guys exercise more more logic
and understanding than just what general public people and media

(01:06:37):
seem to think is is what's attached to free agency
and and and contracts, which is the highest number, like
it's it shouldn't it be so simple to say the
highest bid or the highest number wins. Now, there's a lot,
not more that goes into it. I think you've blade
it out with Smith Schuster beautifully. Not to mention, you

(01:06:59):
start talking about taxes and other things that over the
course of a large four year deal bleed into the
amount of money you're taken home. So there's there's got
to be a bigger plan. And we'll talk about one
of those guys with the bigger plan as Kenny Golladay
heads to the Big Apple. But first we got Isaac
Lowen Cron who's gonna give us all the news of

(01:07:21):
the world. What's up, buddy, Michael LaVar? All the news
comes from Indianapolis and the n C Double A Tournament.
Two more huge upsets on Saturday, four teen seed Abilene
Christian taking down three seed Texas fifty three to fifty two,
Joe Pleasant the game winning free throws with one second left.
Thirteen seed Ohio knocked off defending national champion Virginia sixty

(01:07:44):
two to fifty eight, and some eaglellied fans on social
media just notice this Ohio University is located in Athens, Ohio,
and as we speak, you want to talk about adding
insult to injury. The flight path for Virginia's plane ride
home as we speak is taking them over Athens, Ohio

(01:08:06):
and Ohio University, the school that sent them home. Other
winners on Saturday Alabama, Iowa, Kansas, Florida State, Create, Creaton, Colorado,
l s U, Michigan, USC, Maryland, Oklahoma, Gonzaga, and u
C l A Oregon advancing as well because their game
with Virginia Commonwealth was declared and no contest because of

(01:08:28):
positive COVID tests in the VCU program and the NBA.
Lebron James gonna be out indefinitely with a high ride
ankle sprain. He was injured on Saturday when he got
rolled up on by Atlanta's Solomon Hill in the Hawks
victory over the Lakers, James tweeting, quote, nothing angers and
saddens me more than not being available to and for

(01:08:48):
my teammates. The road back from recovery begins now I
think he met the road to recovery begins. Well, give
him that back soon like I never left. Unquote. For
his part, Solomon Hill tweeted, I don't have initially with Lebron,
I don't Lebron anyway. Sorry, guys, I my hands slipped

(01:09:10):
and I actually accidentally leaned against the console and I
accidentally played that that was actually courtside Karen. My apologies anyway.
Solomon Hill tweeted amidst criticism for his role in the
Lebron injury. Quote, would never disrespect the game and take
a player out purposely. He knows that that's all that
matters to me. Praying for a speedy recovery hashtag r

(01:09:31):
I p to the mentions though hashtag more d M
s than sweetie unquote now back to our sweeties, Michael
and LeVar hashtag back on the road to recovery. You
know what that was rude to me? I mean, you know,
the guy just had a high ankle sprain, and I'm
you know, I'm nit picking him about his grammar. He

(01:09:56):
took to social media. He knew the risks U on
on Twitter. Hey, I'm calling it what it is. You
put it out there. As soon as you hit send,
it's not yours anymore. No. In fact, people are going
in jump on top of it and it well, and
especially if you depending on your word choices, it becomes

(01:10:16):
a did they mean this? Did they mean that? Just
gave you a great example of that exactly. At Isaac
Ohen cried, we'll hear from Ilo coming up in about
ten minutes as we go off the rails. Welcome back in. Yeah, no,
he is ready, Welcome back in. It's the Farmer's Insurance.
Fox Sports Radio Studios called one eight farmers to switch
and you can save a bundle on your auto insurance.

(01:10:38):
Kenny Golladay four year, seventy two million dollars, Slayton Golladay,
John Ross, Evan Ingram, and Kyle Rudolph along with the
return of Quadzilla himself. Say Kwan Barkley, Daniel Jones, it's
feast or famine, sak or swim. Well maybe maybe not.

(01:11:01):
I mean, I don't know if it's sink, sink or swim.
But I think this is a very pivotal moment in
his career because now you're getting to that point where
you're looking at him or you're going to get the
r O I on on bringing him in, and and
there was it was a very controversial pick. If you
issue a call um and and almost one that we

(01:11:24):
we basically said would would define the gm um the
GM's job of of the Giants. So when I when
I took place, it really was, it really was a
conversation point of, uh, what will the Giants be? And

(01:11:46):
we all have watched that that they are not. They're
not what they they have have been when they had
Ernie a Quarzi and and and and and the offense
making the decisions. So Dave Ghetto mean taking over doing,
doing the things that he's done, being a part of

(01:12:08):
that that organization. I mean, it's it's gonna be it's
gonna be a defining moment, probably more for him than
it will be for uh, for Daniel Jones. But Daniel
Jones certainly needs to show that when that decision was
made and and and that play for him in the

(01:12:29):
draft is going to pay more dividends than it already has. Yeah,
I think, uh, I wish they could teach him the
Tiki Barber method of holding on to a football, but
that doesn't work quite so well with a quarterback that
has a quarterback unfortunately. But but but that's his biggest,
biggest thing, right. The offensive line obviously needed a bit
of work, and losing see Kwan Barkley is a huge issue.

(01:12:52):
As they had for the campaign Uh, some drops issues,
but now you've solidified that receiving corps. I mean they
we're sucking five deep when you have those two tight ends.
Uh to help the mix of an ingram also needs
some stickham. Uh sometimes as well. He and Eric Ebron
two guys I love to watch play. Uh just want

(01:13:12):
to see them complete, uh the process as it were.
More frequently we're live from the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports
Radio Studios called Farmers Today for a quote. But yes,
Golla day now the leader in the clubhouse at eighteen
per uh far surpassing the dollar amount uh spent by
the Jets on Corey Davis, which was twelve point five.

(01:13:34):
So uh, he he got the win if if that's
what he was looking for here certainly, and the New
York market to go, you know, build your personal brand,
because if you start there, then then you're you're a
big deal. See see how we're we bring the the
conversation beyond just dollars and cents. It's a beautiful thing.

(01:13:55):
It is a beautiful thing. I got to put it
all together, man, That's that's why we're here. It's a
very all a thousand piece puzzle where we may have
lost a piece or two along the way, but I
swear we will still try to jam one into that
space so it looks complete. Can I ask a question
about thousand piece puzzles? When I look at a thousand

(01:14:18):
piece puzzle come out of the box, it's very intimidating.
Sometimes they come out and some of the pieces are
still together. Yeah, are you Are you a good person
or a bad person if you do not break them
apart and you keep them as put together pieces? Have

(01:14:40):
you cheat at the process of the thousand pieces? Well,
it depends. If it comes out in a fifty piece brick,
then that that's different than two or three pieces sticking together. Right,
It's all about our perspective. By the by the way,
I mean, you're you're dealing with the hand you were dealt,
right that. I know that saying like you paid for

(01:15:01):
the experience, But you paid for the experience. But so
do you just break them all apart and start from scratch?
Answer the question, Mike, don't say perspective. I need answers.
I want the truth. Do you break them apart for
the full experience of the puzzle or do you keep
them together? Because it makes it a little bit easier

(01:15:24):
to to know that those pieces are together and those
are less pieces that I have to try to figure out. Yeah,
at the risk of everybody telling me I'm a bad
parent and a terrible guy. When my kids were younger,
now they weren't, they weren't thousand. No, no, we broke
them apart. So we didn't take the we didn't take
the blocks. So it was you know, the herd that

(01:15:45):
made it great that Kevin Costner line out of bull Durham, Right,
you know, I believe you. You want to know it's horrible.
What's that I would and break them up? I got
no judgment. Look in the end, you're trying to get
to completion. But I had a velocity for but you

(01:16:08):
bought it for the experience. So break up apart, break
him apart. The other is once you've finished, that sense
of accomplishment too, because then you have the story to
tell of you know what, we broke them all apart.
Two We could have had little blocks that were already
done for us, and we said no, and I said no,
and I pushed forward. And I'm sure my kids resent

(01:16:29):
me for it. See, I got you speech. Now, did
you get to the end point? Did you get the
puzzle solved. Yeah, of course, and justifying the means man,
you got the enjoyment and the kids got the celebratory
moment of finishing that puzzle because they probably don't even

(01:16:53):
remember that he started in a block. See, I don't
remember the details of Ye, No, that's it. You know,
as a mom, a dad, a grandma, grandpa and uncle,
care caretaker whatever your role is, right, babysitter, uh and
you know nanny, all of those things, you remember it.

(01:17:13):
But I'm sure the kid just said we finished the puzzle,
especially if it has the big triple zero at the end.
I mean, come on, that's a lot of pieces. That's
a big accomplishment. You should own that for all it's worth.
LaVar there you see, and there's your positive reinforcement for
your Sunday morning. He's LaVar Arrington. I'm Mike Carmen. Thanks

sometimes the little voice in your head you hear LaVar saying, Mama, no,
just get after it. He's LaVar. I'm Mike coming up next.

(01:18:21):
We go off the rails with Ilo. Welcome back in
It's Fox Sports Sunday, Mike carving alongside LaVar. Arrington coming
up in about ten minutes from now. The epidemic in
the NBA. Now it's not the one we faced for
the last year. No no, no, no no. We've got
injuries two stars all across the league, including one huge

(01:18:43):
one who we've already gone through the tweet and tried
to break down u is use of the English language.
Will do it again coming up in about ten minutes.
But now it's time to well do this. We all do.
Double takes it curious headlines, but it takes a keen eye.
It makes sense of them here's our man reporting on
the theater of the absurd. It's Isaac Lowen Crod and

(01:19:09):
this is off the Rails, Off the Rails today, the
story of a city that's a bad sport. We take
you to Kansas City, Kansas, right across the state line
from Kansas City, Missouri. Now that's where a Chiefs fan
named Chris Chancey spent sixty hours painting a giant mural

(01:19:31):
on the side of his house depicting Patrick Mahomes and
celebration with his Chiefs teammates, his neighbors and pastor. But
I loved the mural. Everything was going great until he
opened the mail and got a letter from the city
ordering him to remw to remove the mural because it
was in violation of a city ordinance. The letter threatened

(01:19:56):
escalating penalties up to dollars and even in a lean
against his property. Now k s HB Television did a
story on all this and got a statement from a
city spokesperson. Get a load of this pr spin quote.
Fans can all agree this Chief's mural is awesome. Unfortunately, murals,

(01:20:22):
including awesomeone's like this, are not allowed in residential areas
per the city's code. Of ordinances unquote. So that's friendly spin.
But come on, city, and it's not like this is
in Tampa or San Francisco. This is in the Kansas City,

(01:20:43):
Missouri Chiefs metropolitan area. Come on, city, probably should have
asked first. Well, sometimes sometimes in life it's it's better
to ask forgiveness than permission. Very words I live by
when sixty hours of asking for forgiveness, now there's there.

(01:21:06):
There is that point too. By the way, Fox Sports
Radio is actually just spoken with the concerned citizen who
reported the violation to the city. Wow, he covered it.
I like it, well well done. I love little words
Smithing there on the drop at Isaac Low and Cry.

(01:21:28):
We're live from the Farmer's Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios.
You can call one eight eight eight Farmers and you
can save a whole lot of something on auto insurance.
They're sounding a panic button here in Los Angeles. We'll
tell you why. Next Gratings. Welcome in. It is the
second half of the show. The disco ball is down,
the marching band still on the field having a grand

(01:21:51):
old time. Welcome in Fox Sports Sunday, Mike Carmen alongside
the as you heard, the Big Voice say, three time
Pro Bowl or the allamor akin the King of the
mammals himself, My buddy, love our Arrington, My man, how
are you this morning? I'm great, I'm great. Um three times,
that's not bad going to the Pro Bowl. Huh, it's

(01:22:11):
a pretty good run. Wasn't bad, wasn't great? Great, but
three is pretty good because you know a lot. It's
three more than I got. I'll take the college scali
and the uh, the professional contracts more than me. So
I sitting all at the accomplishments and now watching you

(01:22:34):
grind it out while one with me on the radio
here on. And then of course, uh, Friday night, you
guys opened your your football season. We talked about it
a little bit two hours ago for those just joining
the show, you guys want in resounding fashion the first
game of the year again taking our nationwide and global

(01:22:56):
audience with a big hug around him. Uh, California, and
you're finally getting back to work. My kid. Uh, my
daughter was back on the soccer pitch yesterday. Another couple
of matches that she's in today. You know, one of
those guesting scenarios as well, of hey we may be
short of player, would you like to play, and she
just says, when do I need to be there? Mom? Dad?
Can you get me there? And it becomes he eventually

(01:23:19):
I'm gonna start asking for a car service. But we're
not there yet. M h Well, I'll say this. I enjoyed.
I enjoyed us getting out there and playing and even
though we might not all the way be back yet. UM,
having those those moments, uh, let's just get it done.

(01:23:39):
Like your daughter, you know, stepped up and and did
and and accept it, I think is the way you
get back to finding the winds and the normalities that
that exists in life. And yeah, I mean we man.
At one point, I was looking at twelve players on
our practice field and uh, I was out a crossroads.

(01:24:02):
Uh and in terms of what I wanted to do
and and coaching because that that is very discouraging. Um.
And and then you know, the cool thing is that
you have a conversation. And I had the conversation with
my my my players, I had it with the coaches

(01:24:22):
and it was like, listen, we we have an opportunity
here to be special, but we are letting it slip
away because of the slip away of people that are
dealing with COVID and and so we had to we
had to really really put our best foot forward to

(01:24:45):
talk to some of the guys UM about rethinking their
you know, their participation as teammates. And we ended up
with twenty one dudes UM by by the end of
the week. And you know, it represented something so near
and dear to my heart, which is is perseverance and

(01:25:09):
and just never giving up. And and sometimes it just
takes a little extra effort and and a little a
little bit more belief in and and what you want
to represent, what you want your goals to be, and
in order to get others to realize that they felt
the same exact way and just may have gotten a

(01:25:32):
little you know, lost along their way or lost their
motivation or whatever it may have been. But I'll tell
you what the guys some of them came back and
the results on Friday were they were very inspiring and
very exciting Mike and and and so it'll be interesting

(01:25:54):
to see if any other guys UM kind of felt
the energy of it and and and wanna come, you know,
come rejoin get back in. Absolutely. Yeah, a lot of
decision making in the process, a lot of cajoling, a
lot of discussions and families and and certainly going back
to administrators and coaches. Uh. Here from my my daughters,

(01:26:16):
they're both a couple of weeks away from getting back
to some form of in class learning here in southern California.
One is very excited. The other kind of likes the
system she set up for herself, you know, away from
the public. And you know, we we had some struggles
along the way, but you find your way, right, you

(01:26:36):
find what makes sense and the new normal as it were,
hoping to be able to shed that eventually and get
back to dominating. You know. The I try not to
do the inspirational speeches too much. I'd leave that to
coaches like you. Uh but I but I say it
to this, you know, And it's the mantra that I

(01:26:57):
that I hope hits for for some of you know,
during this time, there have been plenty of opportunities to stop, right,
try to stop pursuing any of the different goals that
you have, academically, intellectually, spiritually, physically, all all of those things,
you know, the whole person thing. Just remember, eventually the
world's gonna start running again, and you don't want to

(01:27:19):
be left behind. Yeah, definitely. It's it's always it's always
a fluid deal man, right, And and you've gotta always
be able to adjust because you you don't know what's
coming your way. And that's that's the best we can
do as people families, father's daughter, our mom's um, older
daughters or older brothers, you know, the older sons, is

(01:27:42):
to relay the message of you know, not taking things
for granted and maximizing the moments and being flexible enough
and wise enough to know when you need to adapt
and to adjust to the given circumstances that come your way.
That that's basically living life. So yeah, I like it.

(01:28:04):
Let's get it LaVar Arrington, Mike Armon with you here.
Fox Sports Sunday broadcasting live from the Farmers Insurance Fox
Sports Radio Studios. Call one eight eight eight Farmers to
switch and you can say big on your auto insurance.
It's truly the best thing you can do with your
phone in a few minutes. Just call one eight eight
eight Farmers and starts ending today. We are farmers, all right,

(01:28:26):
That preamble done. Iowa Sam is tagged in for Chris Perfette.
We thank Chris for the two hours now. We've got
Sam alongside bow Benson and Isaac Lowan gone. Who you're
here on the updates bone, keeping us on task, uh,
feeding information uh and updates from around the sporting universe.
And one that I know he and many others are
feeling here in Los Angeles. Okay, maybe him not so much.

(01:28:49):
Uh is the Lebron James injury where he took the
blow from Solomon Hill. It's been declared a high ankle sprain.
We've had a little bit of poking of the fun,
uh with the tweet that Lebron James put out, but
let me just read it here. Uh. Nothing angers and
saddens me more than not being available to and for

(01:29:11):
my teammates. I'm hurting side and out right now. And
then the slap your forehead fate in in you know emoji. Uh,
the road back from recovery begins now back soon like
I never left hashtag the kid from Akron. So that
was a little bit off. I mean, the road back
from recovery, it's a little off. But yeah, you know

(01:29:32):
what he's saying. I do. Let's say, let's hear the play.
Lebron Dowdy goes and he grabs his ankle. Lebron with
his right ankle and he's hurt. Which think that it
rolled up one or something because it was like a
double team there. And when he went down to the
Florida try to get the loose semi loose ball, that's
when he got the ankle injury. You can see how

(01:29:55):
he's riding in discomfort here. Spectrum tv M. The call
LaVar some calling Solomon Hill dirty. I think he just
went to the floor and anticipated something that didn't happen
in terms of where the ball was versus Lebron's leg.
But now, uh, he's the latest of the superstars go
down Lakers already without Antonio Davis. We know Kevin Durant's

(01:30:18):
been out, uh indefinitely. We got Joel and beat has
been hurt. Uh. Steph Curry has the bruise tailbone and
so many Sorry Anthony Davis. Sorry, I'm getting back into
old pacers. Although you know when I when I when

(01:30:39):
I'm talking, hearing the voice uh a bit discombobulating, So
I got confused. I blame I blame me uh and
my Brian not being able to run through it. But
but Anthony Davis being down obviously huge because you know,
you and I have talked about this for weeks of
I'm not sure how long you know he's out and
what happens with that in tree and now Lebron is

(01:31:02):
out and sprains are the real deal. That's a real
deal injury. You don't want that. Those are the injuries
you do not want. So I've always wondered about whether
he's a cyborg or not, and I guess this might
be one of those opportunities to prove it, to see
how fast he gets back out out of the court.

(01:31:22):
But short term, with the trade deadline approaching and maybe
a couple more buyouts out there, you're you're looking at
the rotation shortened and you're gonna need some scoring, uh
in a hurry. It becomes a really interesting next couple
of weeks for the Lakers as we go through the
standings in the Western Conference. M hm. You know, it's

(01:31:48):
an interesting that the the Utah Jazz we're starting they
they've started to have a decline take place. Um. I
thought they were going to be kind of a little
bit better than what they were. The Lakers were starting
to assert themselves. Uh. I think this leaves the West

(01:32:10):
wide wide open. For the taking by the Clippers. It's
like almost like it creates an hour never situation for
the Clippers. If you ask me, yeah, I'll believe the
Clippers when I see it, well, I can get you know,
like I said, that's one of those things where this

(01:32:33):
is their moment to to do it. If they're going
to try to do it. A high ankle sprain is
not That is not a good that's not a good injury.
It's not. And listen, I watched I watched the play. Um,
I don't know that it's necessarily it was necessarily a
dirty play. I mean, he was what he was going

(01:32:55):
for still, it was going for the ball, and in
the way it just kind of his momentum carried him
and it carried him through through Lebron's ankle. I mean,
it's unfortunate, but you know, those things happen. And I
could understand Lebron's frustration surrounding it, and I could I
could understand, you know, people feeling as though it was dirty.

(01:33:17):
I don't tend to think it was dirty. And I
think that when you look at what the Lakers are
going to have to overcome. Schroders Shrewder Shrewder's gonna get yeah, right, yeah,
the two dots, Uh, Shrewder is gonna have to show up.
And these role players are going to have to show
up as well, and and they're going to have to play.

(01:33:40):
And and that's what it looks like because out in
the West, I mean again, I think it's I think
it is. I think it's the Clippers deal to mess
it up. But again I felt high about the Jazz.
So then now you look at maybe the sun you know,

(01:34:01):
so maybe the Nuggets you know, you don't know, you know,
Well that that's the beauty of it, right. Uh. From
the positive side for the NBA, it opens it up.
The downside is you've just seen one star after the
next and that that have fallen to an injury that's
taken them out for several games, several weeks, longer period

(01:34:22):
of time, which is not good for the game. Fortunately,
there are enough young stars, I think in storylines to
help carry some things. But Lebron being taken off the
map for a couple of weeks here at a minimum,
let's let's call it two to three. When we look
at at at a baseline, when we look at where
the Western Conferences bunched up. Dallas is down at one

(01:34:45):
and nineteen, eight and a half games back of Utah
only a six game gap between number two and number
eight and Phoenix with Booker and Chris Paul very very
intriguing uh to me, and Dallas was one we did
mid season. Hey find a dark horse. I just put
them up of Well, can they ever figure out how

(01:35:06):
to play a little bit of defense, because that that
will go a long way. There's six and four their
last ten, Denver on a run. They're eight and two
over their last ten. They the best in the conference
right now. So it's it's gonna be an interesting stretch here.
We've got about two months left of the regular season.
I don't know that I ever wanted to see, uh,

(01:35:29):
Anthony Davis come out of bubble wrap before the playoffs,
but they may have to really do a very thorough
examination or be active on the wire here unless this
season would perhaps slip away. M Well, we'll have to
wait and see how that's gonna all play out for
the Lakers. But pulling pulling at a d out right now,

(01:35:54):
Pulling a d out at any point is going to
be it's gonna be. Oh, it's a dangerous proposition. Yeah,
there's no I'm certainly not looking to rush it, but
I'd be looking at the you know those scans extra careful.
How you feeling, How are you coming along? Perhaps a
little more than I would have says cold. Slip away

(01:36:14):
really quickly. Man. When that current starts to pull you
and you get pulled further and further away from um, sure,
it gets a little gets a little scary. Man. And
the Lakers right now they're in the current. They gotta
fight back. Well, Taylor, Horton, Tucker, get ready to know
the name because they're gonna need some scoring. And we'll
see whether Kyle Kuzma can can rise up beyond being

(01:36:35):
the occasional contributor twelve a game, but the potential uh
for a bigger role here and to to make his
name a bigger one as well. Mantrez Harrold and others
calling for the league to investigate Solomon Hill. Uh, just
making sure we we get that note in as we roll.
He's LaVar Arrington out my carbon. This is Fox Sports

(01:36:55):
Sunday at Fox Sports Radio, coming here from the Farmer's
Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios coming up next. Hey, something
you might have missed in terms of what's on tap
for the NFL. A lot of money, training hands, a
lot of media contracts. Oh and and one little edition
that maybe you missed. We get into that next on Fox. Hey,
welcome back in It's Fox Sports Sunday. Mike Harmon alongside

(01:37:18):
the Keke of the Mambles himself, three time pro bowler
LaVar Arrington, were live from the Farmer's Insurance. Fox Sports
Radio studios called Farmers Today for a quote, LaVar this
week a lot of well, we got the legal issues
of Deshaun Watson. We've got the signings all over the place. Uh.

(01:37:40):
In Chicago, there were a lot of folks celebrating St.
Patrick's Day, also lamenting on St. Patrick's Day as Andy
Dalton became the quarter of the Chicago Bears. So so
why don't we start there. We'll get to the other.
There's another story coming out of Illinois that want to
do uh, at least bring to people's attentions. Uh, it's

(01:38:03):
not funny, it's kind of a wow. I can't believe
someone did this. But the Bears take the big swing
at Russell Wilson. The report from Jason Lock and four
was three first a third and then reportedly a chem
Hicks who's now been given opportunity to see trade and

(01:38:23):
Khalil Mack and they were rebuffed and to read two
turn around and immediately say, all right, Andy Dalton's our
guy placeholder one year competition with Nick Foles, whatever the
case is. He and theory theoretically, you're like, all right,

(01:38:44):
they may not be done, they'll keep pursuing it, but
they decided let's get a chip, you know, off the
board and onto our table. And we're looking, well, he's
a guy that last year you're gonna have had for
less than three million dollars before he signed with Dallas,
sixty six percent completion rate, fourteen touchdowns, eight interas well,

(01:39:06):
evidently to convince Ryan Pace he was a guy for
ten million dollars because Ryan Fitzpatrick was off the board.
I guess that was the next domino to fall. Uh
Andy Dalton, Yeah, Andy Dalton to fight with Nick Foles
for the job. Although there are some reports that Philadelphia,
if they aren't going to use the sixth pick on
a quarterback, might bring back Nick Foles. I mean, he's

(01:39:28):
got the statue and everything, so he can go fight
Jalen hurts for the job. But Andy Dalton and his
presser said, I was told on the starter and that
helps heal the deal. Oh wow. Uh, you know, I'm
never surprised by the situation as Mike to think that

(01:39:50):
where we are with Andy Dalton today, it's almost he's
he's almost like the punch line to a cruel joke. Right, So,
if I'm a Chicago Bears fan, you're now the punch
line to a cruel joke. I think that it was
almost justifiable for the Cowboys, uh, that you were almost

(01:40:16):
the the punch line to the cruel joke, especially when
that goes down and Andy Dalton had to lead the
team and you saw the way the season went. So
to go from almost getting ahold of of Russell Wilson
or perceivably uh get ahold of of Russell Wilson and

(01:40:42):
then now it's Andy Dalton and Nick Foles, I don't
think you've improved your team. Uh well in the process,
you know, for those unawares they had to release Kyle Fuller,
who was snapped up very quickly on a one year
deal by Denver. Yeah. I mean, I don't I don't

(01:41:03):
understand what's going on in Chicago. Right now, you know
a lot of people have really really thought that they
are very close to turning the corner. I have never
really saw that, and and now if I didn't really
see it before, I don't know that I really see
it now. Well, the key confusing part, right is they

(01:41:25):
go eight and eight, they get that seventh playoff spot,
and that's fine. Uh two playoff runs in three years.
Mitchell Trabinsky at times showing hey, if you let me
do what I can do with my legs stretched, the pocket, etcetera.
Behind admittedly bad offensive line. They got David Montgomery started

(01:41:47):
in the final month again by changing how they called
the offense after the Nick Foles experiment. But come back
this year. You've got Allen Robinson signed his one year
franchise tag. He got col Commet, who in year two
should be more involved. They they seem reticent. As much
as they talked about getting on the field, they did,
they didn't with great regularity. And Darnell Mooney was a

(01:42:10):
nice uh sleeper pick up for them, fifty plus catches
as a rookie, so solid there. And you'll get uh
in the backfield, tore coo and I'll be back. So
there's another playmaker that you missed out of the backfield.
But to go and make Andy Dalton your guy, as
I argued earlier in the week, I guess in a vacuum,
you go, all right, what's left on the board in

(01:42:32):
terms of quarterbacks. If you're not getting one of the
guys that you're swinging big four, sure fine, not a
ten million dollars. Not when it's gonna when you have
little cap room and it's gonna cost you one of
your most consistent players, a pro bowler and Kyle Fuller.
That makes no sense. But at this point, I think
you've got Ryan Pace and Matt Naggy grasping at straws.

(01:42:54):
I should note that it was pointed out by a
Chicago writer I forget her name. I'll find it, uh
in a minute, who pointed out on Ryan Paces like
photo and you know CV that they've posted it had
a note about his contract being extended through one in
the original. Anything about his contract has been taken off

(01:43:16):
in the update this week, leaving Bears fans to scream
a collective no m any like that exactly, Homer More,
I just don't I don't know how much of a
factor outside of the soap opera that it is, and

(01:43:39):
you being from there that you know Chicago is a
major discussion. How dare you You just minimized me and
my my place here on a spot Sport Radio actually
maximized you, because it really if it weren't for you,

(01:44:00):
if this was anyone else, Mike, I'd be like, and
we're talking about the Bears, why because they tried to
swing for Russell Wilson and they got Handy Dalton. That's why.
And you know what, you know what's funny is I
would have been like, they missed on Russell Wilson, they
signed Dandy Dalton. Kind of self explanatory, explanatorium, And we're

(01:44:24):
going to continue talking about the Chicago Bears. Why for
the same reason we talked about the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah,
big brands, Okay, But but here's the thing, right, most
people listening to our show are probably some way, somehow
connected to the Cowboys. They either have a family member

(01:44:46):
in the house that's a Cowboys fan, or they're a
Cowboys fan themselves. I don't know how that happened, I
don't know why that is, but it just is what
it is, and it dominates conversation ation every single day.
It doesn't matter how bad Dallas is. Everybody talks about
Dallas every day. It's a weird deal. Man. I'm just

(01:45:10):
trying to change the narrative. Get another city involved, but
Chicago city and masterful. I don't know if I told
you this. Like the rules to to joaning and captain
in the locker room, rule number one is, is somebody
is joaning on you and they're winning, the best thing
to do, the best practice is to put it on

(01:45:31):
someone else, like somebody's like, oh, LaVar, look look at
your hair. Look at it. Look at Mike's hair. That's
a good Mike's hare's worse than mine. It is. Mike's
hair is falling out. It doesn't hey, but look Mike,
it doesn't even matter if it is or if it isn't.
That's just rule number one. And proper janing is you

(01:45:53):
put it on somebody else and you executed it perfectly.
The excellence of execution. I appreciate you, man. Yeah, that's
you know what number two is? Join in So if
you can't win and you're losing, then you just join
in and just go with it. Like, uh, LaVar, you
data data, Yeah, you're right back, man, you got that man? Yeah,

(01:46:17):
oh yeah, he's you're right. He look at him, you know.
Because then you give them the support. Yeah yeah, you
give them the support, they leave you alone. That's that's
rule number two. Al right. The other thing that rule
number three, Yeah, go ahead. There's a third. Rule number
three is you size him up and if you can't
whoop him, then uh, leave it alone. But if you

(01:46:41):
can whoop him, then now you got to add a
firm affirm. All right, that's enough number. That's rule number three.
But you gotta size it up, and you gotta size
it up properly, because even though they may be smaller
than you and and size, they may be able to
steal whoop you physically. So you gotta size them up
and like, can I whoop this dude? And if I can,

(01:47:03):
then you sit there you be like, all right, all
I I I I You got your lab All right,
that's enough. I dig that. We're going to consolidate that
into a T shirt. I don't know how, but we're
gonna figure out how to make the three three steps. Man.

(01:47:25):
We'll have to figure out a proper agreed upon spelling
of Jonan, but we'll get to that. I just wanted
to mention really quickly as everybody started to do the
analysis of people moving around this week in the NFL,
remember that there's gonna be a seventeen game. So if
you're gonna say take them from seven and nine to
some other record, make sure that you've accounted for that

(01:47:46):
other game, because that's coming and we'll find out when
how where in May that was point. But coming up
in a minute, there's a story about minor league or
trying to make his way make an honest buck, unless
it isn't. We'll talk about that in a moment, But

(01:48:07):
first we're gonna kick it over our guy, Isaac, who's
got the news of the world, indeed, Michael and LaVar
And typically the second round of the n C Double
A Tournament, we're so used to it tipping off on Saturdays,
but this year, of course, it's tipping off today on Sunday.
In fact, it'll be tipping off thirty five minutes from now,
one seed Illinois against eight seed Loyola Chicago with a

(01:48:29):
trip to the Sweet sixteen on the line. The biggest
headlines from the end of the first round on Saturday,
fourteen seed Abilene Christian their fans can now joan three
seed Texas after they beat fifty three to fifty two.
So a lot of joaning going on in the lone
Star State today as Joe Pleasant hit the game winning

(01:48:52):
free throws with one second left, thirteen seed Ohio knocking
off defending national champion Virginia seventy two to fifty eight,
Oregon advancing after their game with Virginia Commonwealth was declared
a no contest because of multiple positive COVID test in
the VCU program. The other winners on Saturday Alabama, Kansas, Iowa,

(01:49:15):
Florida State. Hang on, Uh, Sam's in my ear telling
me that my levels were not high enough, and then
I have to repeat that. Iowa also one on Saturday. Okay,
he's saying my levels did Iowa? Is that enough? Sam?

(01:49:36):
Did I say that loud? Hass? Okay, I'm now I'm
now told I did say that loud enough? Florida, Colorado,
l s U. It's all about quality control here at
Fox Sports Radio, l s U, Michigan, USC, Maryland, Oklahoma, Gonzaga,
and U C l A. That's another thing I like
about being here at Fox Sports Radio. None of the

(01:49:57):
people on our team ever a wow their personal rooting
interests to seep into their work. Finally, in the NBA,
Lebron James out indefinitely with a high ride ankle sprain
injury occurring when he got rolled up on by Atlanta's
Solomon Hill Saturday during the Hawks win over the Lakers.
James afterwards tweeting, nothing angers and saddens me more than

(01:50:18):
not being available to and for my teammates. The roadback
from recovery begins now back soon like I never left unquote,
back to LaVar and Michael, like we never left for
more jooning? Did I do that right? LaVar? What was
And just to clarify, that term was not named in

(01:50:39):
honor of the late great comedian Joan Rivers. Is that correct?
That's correct, That's what I thought. Nowhere did the word
came from? We'll see if we could find the history. Ilo,
there's your research project for the rest of the morning.
Was that she was great? Joan Crawford Maybe, mommy, dear,

(01:50:59):
get that no more wire? How about how about Joan
Collins from Dynasty. Actually there's someone you don't want to
mess with. What a great show? Have you watched the
recent iteration of it with Elizabeth Gillies on there. She's
so good. It's pretty good show always respect going back

(01:51:20):
to the wonderful world of Victorious, showing my range and
how much I watched television with my kids. Hey, welcome
back to the Farmer's Insurance. Fox Sports Radio Studios called
one eight eight farmers to switch and you can save
a bundle on your auto insurance story. I want to
do at least make mention of because it's just too unbelievable. Uh.

(01:51:41):
Cubs Minor League er heyeseus come out goal Corals. Police
in Eagle County, Colorado pulled over a man driving a
BMW on Wednesday, before finding twenty one pounds of methamphetamine
and one point two pounds of oxy codon. The suspect
Chicago Cubs Minor League Camargo Corrals. Here we go back

(01:52:05):
to Chicago. You know what it's all about me? All right?
I need some validation in my life, will you? And
then riding around dirty like that man they see Cubs
du mating controlling, trying to catch me riding dirty. Charged

(01:52:28):
with four felonies distribution and possession of methamphetamine, distribution of
oxy code on possession of Schedule two drugs. He's being
held on seventy five thousand dollars bond in an Eagle
County jail. That's a drug dealer, no, no question about it.
Is dealing the narcotics. Assigned to the High Hey South

(01:52:51):
Bend Cubs, twenty five years old, signed his first deal
with the Cubs as a minor leaguer going back to
two thousand fourteen. Spoke two Woman Julian Green said, quote,
were aware of the arrest of one of our minor leaguers,
were investigating this matter and cannot provide additional comment until
we have further details. Well there's the details. Oh, well,
we were you know, we just sent him out to

(01:53:13):
go get a few things for us, to bring him
back to the clubhouse deputies to make sure we get
the details of it, to make sure that the receipts
and everything and and all of the all of the
prescriptions that they wrote for him we were correct, and
and it was just a little bit of a mix up.
Just crazy, that's just crazy. Two passengers were at least

(01:53:35):
they were evidently not aware that the drugs existed. Well,
they convinced the deputies to let them go, so we
know that much. When you're dirty. You're dirty, and well,
you're around dirt, you get dirty. All I can say
is this, Camargo Corrales, I have to I have to

(01:53:58):
ask this one question, going back to a line that
Chris Carter used once a Blonde a time. Might tell
me what you're gonna do, Mike, what you're gonna do?
You know what? You know what? In the first hour
we heard shaggy yell and it wasn't me. I could

(01:54:18):
see you a cop, Mike. You know why, because now
that I'm thinking about it, putting it together that you're
the son of a police officer of law enforcement. I
could see you having the uniform on and and your
flashlight out and you're holding it up with your glasses on.
But you would have on one of them like the

(01:54:39):
like sheriff's hats, like like the bucket, you know, the
gallon cap you're putting me back as I'm Jackie Gleason
and cannonball runners harmon. Yeah, that would be funny, but
that's more old school. I think you'd be more new school,
like more like kind of cool and updated though and
and and and be like hey, hey, hey, buddy, what's

(01:55:00):
going on there in your car? I'm sheriff Harmon. You
guys are gonna have to turn the car off and
remove your hands from the staring wheel and put them
where I can see them. You young lady, you're gonna
have to get out of the car and just walk away. Now,
you two, not so much. You're gonna have to stay here.

(01:55:23):
I feel like there's something wrong. I'm calling in back
up now. I don't know why you told the girl
to go, because I think you're a gentleman. And that's
how I saw it in my head. That's how. That's
how that that part of the episode played out, and
it was called, uh the harm and traffic stop. I'll
tell you what. We will will write out a full
script on that. But just always remember when you you

(01:55:44):
let someone shovel away, and if movies and TV have
taught us anything, you can't trust the older women and
children in situation, she had all the worst drugs on her,
and you let her walk away, and you let her
off the hook. You let her off the hook. You
knew who she are, you knew who she was, and
you let her walk away. Allow that just escalated quickly.

(01:56:05):
All right, We will try to re enact some of
these would be stops in future future videos series here
associated with Fox Sports Radio. We're live from the Farmer's
Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studio. It's called Farmer Today for
a quote. Coming up next, it's just time to shine.
He's got the pulpit, he's ready to go. It's the

(01:56:26):
Mammals of the Week coming up next here on Fox.
Can't wait. Hey, welcome back in. It's Fox Sports Sunday
Mike Armen alongside the King of the Mammals himself, three
time pro bowler, the All American LaVar Arrington, and we
are live from the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Call one eight eight eight Farmers and you could save
a whole lot of something on auto insurance. All right,

(01:56:49):
I'm ready. I know you've been lathering up. You've been
running in place, getting that cardio up, getting that fire
fire in the belly, because it's time. He takes an
apex predator to properly assess situations and spot potential greatness
no matter how big or small. LaVar Arrington puts the

(01:57:11):
spotlight on them all. These are his mammals of the weed.
Here we go. This one's a special one. This is
one is an interesting one, because these are guys that
really influenced me and inspire me, and I just, you know,
some way, somehow they played a part in my life.

(01:57:33):
So we're gonna go here. We're gonna start with You're
gonna love this. The show gun of Harlow Mr shown
up kiss my converse. He had the glow. It wasn't
the greatest glow at the end of the movie, but
his glow was really good. You know what. He was
very very very athletic. He he knew how to do

(01:57:53):
the karate and the kung fu moves and all those
different things. And well his swag in connection with the
shoulder pads that he wore makes him and all mammal
for today. I love it. I love it. Show enough
and moving on. You're gonna really love this role. Right,
Let's go Rocky bout Boa. He's a Mammal of the week. Uh,

(01:58:17):
He's a Mammo of the Week, otherwise known as the
Italian Stallion. And and the reason why I went with
Rocky is, you know what, when life knocks you down,
and you know it's gonna knock you down harder than
any other person, any other thing, and in life, and
you gotta get back up. And you use that saying
and you use that quote all the time, and it

(01:58:38):
just made me think about where we are right now
as a society and looking at what's going on in
in the n c A, a tournament and all these
different things. You know what, you just gotta fight and
you gotta get back up. And that's representation of this
week's mammal of the week. You know, one of them,
Rocky Balboa, do you gotta fight? I gotta get you
to do the full dramatic green. The world ain't a

(01:59:00):
sunshine and rainbows yet it's a meeting, nasty place. There
you go, and I'm glad you did that, Mike Harmon,
And then I'm gonna tell you why in a minute.
But our next mammal of the week Bobby Bouche, otherwise
known as the water Boy. And the reason why I
really loved the water Boy and Bobby Bouche is because,
you know what, we just started off football season this

(01:59:22):
week and it was an amazing experience. It was wonderful,
and all I could think of was just giving it
all that you have. And you know what, sometimes giving
it all that you have also includes having a little
bit of fun. Being able to laugh, being able to smile,
being able to just enjoy and share those moments of

(01:59:44):
making a play and and and being out there competing.
And I just couldn't help but think about the water Boy,
you know, it just kept coming to my mind, like
like gator ray water h two oh, Gatorade and driving crazy.
And then went and made some plays. And by the way,

(02:00:06):
Bobby Boucher's character was actually studied and inspired by one
LaVar Arrington. That's a tap bit of interesting trivia. I
always take that is my biggest claim to fame that
Adam Sandler came to Penn State and studied me for
for the part. Anyways, I digress. I gotta finish out strong,
and how else could you finish out a list like this? Then?

(02:00:30):
To name one of the dopest hosts in radio who
gives us our winds of the week and gives us
all kinds of inspiration while giving us all kinds of
information and trickeration and comedy and and cards. Mike Harmon.
Mike Harmon car is mammal of the week. You know why,

(02:00:53):
because Mike will keep you inspired. The one thing about
Mike Harmon that you guys need to know when we're
on the radio, is that he is trying to make
you better. He is trying to enlighten you and invoke
and provoke the type of thoughts that you wouldn't normally
get too. So you may get upset with them, you

(02:01:16):
may love them, you may have all kinds of run
a different myriad of different emotions for Mike Harmen. But
one thing about Mike Harmon, he has your best interest
in mine. And for that, Mike Harmon is my final
mammal of the week. How you too, kind? I'm gonna
ask one very yes or no question. You ever scream

(02:01:37):
as you were about to blow somebody up on the
football field all the time. There you go, and there's
your Bobby Bousch a moment. I Am coming to get you.
That's what you say. Here I come. Terrifying quarterbacks as
they scrambled, and you hear them scream back, mama, No hey,
we talked about the Seattle Seahawks. What's next for them?

(02:01:57):
On Fox? No Oh, let's get it going. Women's bracket,
men's bracket, and me a action. We got it all
flowing for you today. You need some spring training baseball?
We got that too. As we come to you alive
from the Farmers in Church Fox Spores radio studios. Call

(02:02:19):
one eight eight eight Farmers to switch and you could
save on your auto insurance. What else you gonna do
with your phone for the next few minutes? You're gonna
look at pictures your food of food that your friends
at again. Actually I kind of would at the moment,
but you can call one eight eight eight Farmers for
a quote. I'm hungry. I'm hungry, and most of my
friends have become clause chefs. I'm sorry about that, Sam

(02:02:42):
I I stepped on my guy. So good things there,
it is, there, it is. You gotta have a song
in your heart on a Sunday, There's no question about it.
LaVar Arrington alongside yours truly, Mike Rman. We're pleased to
be with you from the Farmer's Insurance videos. So much
going on today, LaVar, as we begin the second round

(02:03:04):
of the n C Double A Men's Tournament. First round
the women's tournament. A lot of anticipation and excitement in
the air, upsets. The story of the day, the well
last three days, which is, you know, everybody says, hey,
madness is here, and we're back to some sets of normalcy,
and it's like good. I hope there's more than just

(02:03:24):
a basketball game to bring you back to your sense
of normalcy. But you know what, We'll take our wins
as we find them. Indeed, you gotta take your wins
and and listen, I mean, coming into coming into this
upcoming week, it's going to intensify in the in the tournament,
and you know, I just hope the focuses of things

(02:03:45):
which you generally don't see it happen. But I just
hope the focuses stay on, uh the achievements and the
feats that are are fulfilled, uh, accomplishments of of of
the the efforts of teams and players and even coaches.

(02:04:06):
I just hope. I just hope that you know, at
some point we can start finding a focus on the
appreciation of things that we're seeing, because I think that
you know, right now, it's just we're we're at a
point where things are getting a tap bit more more
skewed towards um conversations that are the side plots, like

(02:04:30):
the subplots to main main stories, main situations are becoming
bigger than the feats and and the accomplishments themselves. So
I'm hoping that as we get further into the tournament
and you know, further into the off season and and
in season for different sports like baseball and stuff like that, Uh,

(02:04:55):
that it's more focused and on on some really really
cool achieved mints, you know, as as we're moving forward,
because the polarization of some of these these stories are
it's just getting it's getting a little bit much. Well,
there are some of those those difficult truths that that
are out there and certainly deserve their their note uh

(02:05:19):
and noticing. And certainly we had one as the amenities
were displayed and it became a just a magnifier on
the n C double A. And and look, we'll always
have the play not you know, pay or not play.
You had livers Um that had the the shirt and
others that did as well, you know of you know,

(02:05:42):
not n C double A property I believe was his
uh his T shirt. And it goes back to the
the idea of what value do you ascribe to a scholarship,
right the not hashtag not n C double A property uh,
And I think that always gets diminished and people just

(02:06:02):
treated as a nothing uh in the process. I'm not
saying it's to be all to end all, and that
the system certainly isn't perfect. Right. We saw the weight
room disparity men's two women that became became a talking point,
and certainly as the tournaments began, you know, a magnifying
glass put on, you know, how the money is spent,

(02:06:24):
an allocation of resources, and always remember that the people
that are authorizing money being spent on stuff, and it's
not to excuse it, uh, they're not necessarily the ones
that are seeing with their eyes what's there. Right, So
so in in terms of the weight room, not to
just again, I I can caveat it only out only

(02:06:44):
so much. But the idea that they said it was space.
Do you think the person that authorized the checks to
be cut for space, you know, for for what they
needed to do, actually got a picture of how big
the space was. I would argue that was probably not
the case. They were probably got the person on site
looking at the setup when they started to allocate resources.

(02:07:07):
Again not saying that what what transpired was correct, But
in the end, you know, everybody assumes perfect information and
that's just not so. I just think that this was
a lazy approach. It was a lazy approach to handling

(02:07:28):
the situation. And I think that whether whether people uh
will will acknowledge it or not, Mike, you gotta take
into consideration the respect level that was in that moment,
because outside of this is this is what like, really

(02:07:51):
what we've been talking about, you know, all show long.
It's just a different day and time and age. Things
that people have been so used to doing. You can't
do it anymore. So if you were, if you're this
person twenty years ago and you take the approach that

(02:08:15):
you take, I mean maybe a little longer than twenty,
are getting old. I mean social media is truly evolved
within you know, even five to ten years. But when
a decision is made, the decision is made, and the
only way your decision could ever be put in the
light that it was is by something tremendously going wrong

(02:08:40):
or something tremendously going right, and the right out outlets
have to get a hold of it and put it
out there. So even if a player came out and
said our weight room facilities are garbage, right, who's who's
picking it up? Mike, who's talking about this this scenario

(02:09:02):
that's playing out where you can make the comparison between
what the boys facility looks like versus what the girl's
facility looks like. But now today in you're now talking
about everybody is held accountable because I can go viral

(02:09:23):
and the clicking of or not even the click, the
hitting of the send or the post button or the
going live button, and I get the same amount of audience,
if not more, putting out my thoughts and opinions and ideas,
which is tremendous in a lot of ways, but which

(02:09:46):
is very disruptive in a lot of ways as well,
because I just don't think we were ready for this.
I don't think we were ready for what this, what
this is that we're dealing with right now. It's funny
you mentioned that, because, uh, it was something from an

(02:10:07):
old David Bowie interview that I remember. You know, he
was being asked about, you know, all these different services
going back to uh Napster and everything else, of changing
the music industry, and he goes, well, there's gonna be
some good, there's gonna be a lot of bad. And
then he expounded, you know, on the worldview as all
you know, this the same idea of where people get

(02:10:30):
their information, how it's disseminated et cetera, that you know,
you have no idea how big and expansive, that it
becomes that what seems like a great idea can me
you know, changed pretty quickly. And and we've certainly seen
that in a number of cases because well, let's face it,
under the guys of anonymity, folks say a lot of

(02:10:52):
crazy mess out here. I mean, we saw that after
the Ohio State loss, where we now have of the
authorities involved, after a number of social media posts directed
at e j Lddell of Ohio State, a number of
threatening really just absolutely gross, uh gross place of where

(02:11:14):
we're at. Charles Charles Barkley taken to uh where he's
been part of the action for the n C Double
A tournament and folks sometimes get on them about the
games breakdowns themselves and that's all fighting good, But he
went on saying, look, this is why I don't do
social media. He also had another another discussion just saying, hey,

(02:11:37):
remember member and put this in perspective. It's a game.
It's a game, especially with what we've come out of
or are coming out of, and we still have plenty
of folks you're sending the thoughts, the prayers and and
hope for all those folks who have family members fighting
or still recovering from having had covid um and and

(02:11:58):
that was one of one of Barkley's moman's out of this,
like really that this is how you're choosing You're gonna
go after a sophomore because of a misshot in an
n C Double A tournament game. And we we respect
the weight of it and look our jobs doing and
analyze and and break down all these things. And there's
certainly some gravity to it, right because we know what's

(02:12:20):
on the line, but by the same token, still have
to bring it back to the base that you know,
we're in a game, Mike, Uh, that one right there
is a little bit more. I think it's complex, And
and the reason why it's complex is because you're you're

(02:12:41):
making your you're you're you're sending these messages and you're
threatening bodily harm, physical harm on on him, and the
way that you're saying it, there's no possible way you
can ignore that message, you know. And and it's something
it could be as simple as going to the store

(02:13:05):
that you usually go to and this person knows you
go to that store and they're waiting on shore. I
just think that there is I and and I said
that this is this is one of those things some
people just weren't ready for what social media represented. Social

(02:13:27):
media has exposed some of the realist truths of our
society and our culture. And it's so raw and it's
so real that unless you were able to see it
with your own two eyes or hear it with your
own airs, you would never in a million years believe

(02:13:53):
that these people are actually walking amongst us. And it's scary.
It's scary to know that monsters play out in dreams,
monsters play out in books and in movies, and now
social media has humanized monsters and they have a platform

(02:14:16):
to be just that. And because of the way things
are done and and that idea of what free speech represents,
I mean, you can't. I mean, I guess it would
have to be something truly crazy for for you to
to have to. I mean, why is that not enough
for a person to be arranged or or detained and

(02:14:42):
taking them for questioning. I mean, I think at some
point you look at how things are approached and and
and how you feel as though you can just say
whatever it is you want to say because you know what,
I'm just putting it out there. It may be because
I want to go viral it, maybe because I you know,
I want some attention. But Mike, when you put out

(02:15:04):
stuff like that, you may want to do what it
is that you're saying you want. And that's just it,
right and trying to figure out the line between all right,
I'm I'm going for cloud, I'm a an enraged fan.
Whatever you're your reasoning is versus true intent. Man, that
can't leave it to judgment, and I know that's that's

(02:15:27):
a difficult line. Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith promised
that the police will get involved. Uh, it will not
be tolerated, was his line. Um that they have contacted
the authorities and put this this out. Obviously they'll do
everything they can. I was suspect they go find the
I P address and everything else and try to identify, uh,

(02:15:50):
the individuals that we're sending these things. A lot of
messages of support from across the sporting universe, as you
would expect. Certainly are our thoughts with d j Adell.
I mean, nobody should have to go through that, uh,
in in any way, shape or form. So just another
one of the legal stories that will be following. But
an unfortunate side story to the tournament which has begun

(02:16:14):
its play for today, LaVar, we've got Loyola and Illinois.
See it all comes back to Chicago in it. Uh
Illinois down nine too early, the Big ten our conference
getting uh getting beaten up a little bit for those
early losses. Michigan State the Ohio State off the jump,

(02:16:35):
and I had Purdue running pretty pretty far, hoping that
the hey, let's slow you down and grind out a
game method would work. Well it didn't. Uh, and and
down they went. So we'll keep an eye on the
action the women's bracket. The Iowa women's team is playing
as well, so we've lost Iowa sam for the final hour.
I will note going back to the two last hour,

(02:16:58):
as you talked about me potentially becoming sheriff. After we
did the Cubs prospects story, my brother reminded me to
just send you a photo of Cartman from when he
was a police officer and yelling that's big bathority respect
my authoritie. So there you have it, Uh, it all
it all comes together here. I had to end on

(02:17:18):
a positive note. Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday Mike
Harmon alongside the All American LaVar Arrington. We've got two
ways of approaching things in the NFL. We'll get to
the Seahawks and their build and then Urban Meyer said
I don't like this. Was he just playing games or
did he really mean it? We'll talk about that next
year on Fox. Hey, welcome back in. It's Fox Sports

(02:17:41):
Sunday Mike Harmon alongside the King of the Mammals, three
time pro bowler LaVar Arrington, hanging out with you. Thank
you for being part of our extended family here at
Fox Sports Radio. Thank you to your program directors for
having us as part of your day on a Sunday morning.
Six hundred of fly it's now nationwide. That's a nice

(02:18:02):
big number. I think I need to get a nice
celebratory piece of cake or, in Chicago style, a nice
beef sangwich. That is right. Loyola up twelve six. I
talk about everything Chicago. You know what, sometimes it can
be about me. Uh, Loyola against Illinois twelve, twelve six.

(02:18:25):
You're just getting mad at me. I was up on
Central Michigan in the women's brackets twenty four twenty here
as the first half winds down. Uh, fantastic action. A
lot of bodies flying in both these games. So having
some fun watching it as we are here in the
Farmer's Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios. The Seattle Seahawks have

(02:18:47):
had an interesting offseason thus far, LaVar with a lot
of speculation about their quarterback. Obviously, you go and you
hire a new offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron Uh replacing Schottenheimer.
And while Russell Wilson didn't like that, famously went on
the Dan Patrick Show and said, well, we need to

(02:19:09):
shore up that offensive line. I need to not take
as many hits. Uh. Something he'll have to reconcile with
guys in that locker room should he be a member
of the Seahawks. But one of the things we saw
also this week was all right, if you're gonna say
we're gonna fortify the running game, that means less rust cooking.

(02:19:30):
But then they went and signed to back up what
they claimed they were gonna do. Uh, they went and
signed Chris Carson to a new deal and solidify that backfield.
Kenny stay healthy, that's one of the big question here.
But when we're looking at UH, one of the more
reliable running backs three years twenty four point six. I mean,

(02:19:51):
that's a pretty big investment saying we are going to
run the football and take some of the weight off
of Russell Wilson's shoulders. But folks trying to re into
Russell going on to Twitter saying yeah thirty two like
that just probably his guy, but might send the message
of all right, I'm still a member of the Seahawks.
Because the Bears took their swing and they missed, doesn't

(02:20:13):
mean they won't swing again. Doesn't mean another team won't
come in, even though if he's only gonna want to
get traded to those four teams, LaVar, it would seem
that they've all been checked off at this point and
there's no room at the end for one Russell Wilson.
I don't think it was ever gonna happen, And if

(02:20:34):
people thought that it had a true opportunity to happen,
I don't. I just don't know how well, because guys,
I mean, we saw Tom Brady go to a new uniform. Yeah,
but but that's I feel like that's a different scenario,
only because Tom Brady and the New England Patriots had
already been discussing what's next as it applied to the

(02:20:59):
future of his career. I didn't feel like I didn't
feel like that was the scenario here with Russell Wilson.
He's still at that point in his career where you
don't make a decision like that. So I I almost
felt just though, unless rust made it uglier. And and

(02:21:19):
and here's what's crazy. Deshaun Watson, however, whatever, he didn't
say much and I don't even think that he did
anything really damning to himself and the things that he
said to to start the conversations of he didn't want
to play for Houston, but if he hasn't even said anything, right,
but it's become a very volatile situation. And and and

(02:21:44):
that's see to me. And unless it's like a James
Harton situation where you make it so volatile that it
is it's just intolerable to continue on with it. I
just don't see the value in the word of parting ways. Oh,
I agree with you, I mean, and that's why it's

(02:22:05):
kind of And part of me is like, maybe he
may force himself out by his power and leverage and influence,
But part of me says, there's no way he's they're
going to let him go. It's just it's not feasible. Yeah,
I mean, and that was the bigger question, right, is
what's the acrimony? What's the battle? There are Schneider and
Carol lockstep because we are coming up on a decade

(02:22:28):
in the league, right, which means you've already surpassed the
expected life of your average and with the number of
hits that he's taken, you'd think they'd do something to
solidify the backup position, right, certainly that but in terms
of getting rid of him, no, I mean, he's still
one of the top five, top seven. I don't know,
we can rank guys another time, but certainly still one

(02:22:51):
of your top quarterbacks in the game. It just becomes
the I guess, the the question of is winning the
division enough anymore? And who does that fall on? And
whether Russell doesn't like Pete Carroll's way of doing business
or John Schneider's way of doing business. Not that it
got into a shouting match in any of these forums,

(02:23:12):
and he hasn't taken to social media with a lot
of you know, cryptic messaging related to the Seahawks, that's
for sure. And other than hey, it's start of a
New Day and people are gonna read into anything that
he posts anyway, right, because that's just where we're at.
As we've talked about on the show, that's where we're at.
But when when the word gets out of Hey, he'd

(02:23:34):
like to stay with the Seahawks, but here are four
names coming out of his agent. You know that that
can't be dismissed categorically. That means there's something there. I
don't I do not disagree with you on there being
something there, but how much of something there is there?

(02:23:56):
Like you can put things out there for can assumption
to see see how it goes, see how it unfolds.
But if if nothing comes of it, then what direction
do you go with it? And I think that you
needed to see some Really really, it's to two ways

(02:24:16):
looking at it, because this might not be over at all,
or it might be dead in the water. Right it's
dying on the vine. You put it out there, if
it gains traction through the consumption of it and discussion
of it in the media, then it grows and then
you start hearing people having to come out and have

(02:24:37):
quotes and have responses. Uh in regards to the situation,
whether it be Russell's side or whether it be the
Seahawks side, or it just goes quiet, and maybe that's
just what's happening right now. It's like, look, Russ, we
respect you. You you know you're respected, Your word is respected.

(02:24:58):
Your your causing turbulence with what it is that you're doing.
You've got mayors fighting over social media. You got you
got a lot going on here. Can we agree to
work together on this and and so and and doing so?
Can we can we try to go go dark on

(02:25:19):
this and see what happens. Like listen, I know it
was denied that that the Chicago offerings. I don't know
how true that is. I know schefter gets a lot
of good, great information. Um, I just don't know how
true it is that that Seattle would basically say we're
not entertaining any offers at this time. I don't know

(02:25:42):
how true it is. I'll take it at face value.
But if you have a player that and the reports
are what it is that he's saying, and then there's
the understanding that the coach handles things the way that
he handles things, Uh, you gotta believe that there has
been some type of fracture that has taken place, and
how are those things we want to be handled moving forward?

(02:26:05):
Do you just move on like it never happened. I
don't know that that's the case. I don't know that
that can be the case. So it'll be interesting to
see how it all pans out. Trying to put the
genie back in the bottle, as it were, Live from
the Farmer's Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios. Call Farmers Today
for a quote. This is Fox Sports Sunday, Mike Harmon
alongside LaVar Arrington. Coming up next, we're gonna talk about

(02:26:28):
Ermin Meyer, trust the process. No, no, sir, I don't
like it. But first, it's Isaac Loangrown. He's got the
news of the world updating us with live scores. Around
two of the n C Double A Tournament underway and
eight seed Loyala Chicago leading one seed Illinois seventeen to nine,
ten minutes and fifty two seconds left to play in

(02:26:51):
the first half. As at the outset. From a statistical standpoint,
Illinois just four out of thirteen from the field. For
Loyalis Chicago seven out of twelve from the field forty percent.
To begin the game. Again, eight seed loyal or Chicago
leading one seed Illinois seventeen to nine, ten minutes and
fifty two seconds left to play in the first half,

(02:27:13):
coming up next to forty eastern one seed Baylor against
nine seed Wisconsin, with again a trip to the Sweet
sixteen on the line. In the NBA, Lebron James of
Los Angeles Lakers out indefinitely with a high right ankle sprain.
It occurred on Saturday when he got rolled up on
by Solomon Hill of Atlanta during the Hawks victory over

(02:27:35):
the Lakers at Staples Center. James, tweeting afterwards, quote, nothing
angers and saddens me more than not being available too
and for my teammates. The roadback from recovery begins now
back soon like I never left. We also have some
news just coming down from Sham's Terrantia, who reports that

(02:27:56):
Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse has been fined fifth
thousand dollars by the NBA for throwing his face mask
behind the scores table and toward the stands and directing
profanity towards an official No word yet on how that
fifty thousand dollars breaks down. I mean, was it thirty
five thousand dollars for the profanity and fifteen thousand for

(02:28:18):
the face mask toss or whatever it was. It added
up to fifty grand that just in for the NBA.
Michael and LaVar, well, there you go, fifty thousand dollars,
that's the new one. I mean, Paul George only got
thirty five thousand. He was essentially saying the game was fixed.
So I were, we're describing some crazy values on some things.

(02:28:39):
Thanks Hilo at Isaac Glow and Kron. But you know,
showing that showing there it is there, there is the
drop of all drops, uh, showing just the different levels
here and obviously NBA trying to promote safety and trying
to hold their coaches and players accountable for all things.
I just would love to see the because we know

(02:29:01):
in the NFL there's a fine schedule, LaVar. I mean,
you you got a pink slip at some point, right,
I mean, do these guys get a receipt like we
get at the grocery store listing all the items? I mean,
is it like a breakdown. This part of the fine
is for such and such, This part of the fine
is for such and such. I wish it could be
that way. I don't know how it is now, But
at one point I was one of the highest fine

(02:29:24):
guys in the in the National Football League for for
my hits. And it just it just breaks down the
fact that you did that and they didn't want you
to do that, And if you do it again, it's
going to be more. Imagine if you were doing that now,
if you wear your socks wrong, like I look at

(02:29:44):
how they allowed these guys to wear their shoes and
their socks and their uniforms. Now, I was like, this
was my whole thing, was my swag, Like I enjoyed
doing that in high school. Um, not so much. Were
you able to do it. I was able to do
it where I went to school in college, but I
was looking forward to being able to swag out and
and and the pros. And they had all these rules

(02:30:06):
and I would we would break them anyway, and you
get you get five five thousand dollars because the stripes
on your socks weren't properly at the desired area of
your leg, you know, stuff like that. And if you
did it again, like I remember, I started spatting my
shoes and I would I started doing it with with

(02:30:30):
a sock and and it was like the color. It
was the the color of the uniform. And I got fined.
I got fined for it, and they were like, yeah,
you do that again. It's gonna be um, it's gonna
be double of what it was when when you did
it the first time. And and that was you know,

(02:30:50):
not in my um, not in my budget for the month,
so double that I wasn't gonna pay ten. That's just
a lot of money to just be taken away. Hopefully
do a good charity. Hopefully it did a lot of good,
but certainly not not a check you wanted to write
or have anybody authorized. The electronic transfers. And it's very

(02:31:14):
it's very upsetting. Well but but it's I gotta imagine though.
It's it's upsetting on one level when you get fine
for a hit and now it's a hey, let's discuss
the hit and interpretation and all of that. It's another
to say your socks are too low or they don't like,

(02:31:36):
you know, the color of the cleats that you wore,
because it used to be a whole level of absurdity,
kind of like urban Meyer. Well, let's get to him.
Welcome back to the Farmers Insurance. Fox Sports Radio studios
called one eight farmers to switch and you can say,
have a bundle on your auto insurance. Urban Meyer coming
to the National Football League. The Jacksonville Jaguars active in

(02:31:58):
free agency, obviously the number one overall pick. Uh. And
then we're talking about free agency and how it's all flowed. Uh.
He went on record saying, you know what I'm I'm
not a fan of this free agent process and it's
quote not good business. Quote. Yeah, that was awful. I
don't agree with it, but no one asked my opinion.

(02:32:19):
I guess in the old days, you can bring them in,
meet them, have dinner with them. You find out the
football intellect, find out their character. The thing you don't
I found out is called someone who has skin in
the game because they're not gonna quite. But I don't
see honest as an appropriate word. So we did a
deep dive. Every guy that we signed, we did and
just kept going through. But just saying, trying to make
organizational decisions. I'm not sure how the rule came about,

(02:32:42):
but to me, it's not good business. M Oh, it's
a different different world. I mean, because you can't tell
me all the parents and caregivers for guys going from
high school to college. We're playing all their cards with
you either their Urban. I think someone's at this before
he took the job there, that he was going to

(02:33:04):
a horrible market. And I don't know that Urban Meyer
and and Trevor Lawrence can make football matter in in Jacksonville.
I can recall when Jacksonville was a really really good
football team making a push to win the Super Bowl
with Fred Taylor and Bisselli and Brackens and Darius and

(02:33:26):
all those guys Beasley, Um, Jimmy Smith, Keenan McCardell. I
mean they were loaded, um, and nobody cared. And it's
gonna take, uh, it's gonna take a whole lot to
make that market a relevant market. I can recall when
I would became a free agent and bought my freedom

(02:33:47):
out of Washington. That was one of the teams that
was high on my list. But the one thing that
kept me from going there was the size of the market.
I I loved their uniforms, um, I actually even liked
the city, but it was you know, when I started

(02:34:08):
comparing markets, it was like New York was out there, Uh,
Green Bay was out there, and and and so when
I went and looked at Green Bay. I was I
was like, the weather kind of was a total turn off.
But says a guy who played at Penn State, Washington

(02:34:31):
and the New York I had always been cold. But
but think about it, I didn't know any better as
as a kid because I grew up in Pittsburgh, so
I wanted to stay close to my parents. But once
I was in the league for a while, you become
an adult. Then you start thinking to yourself, like, I
want to go somewhere warm. If I'm gonna be if
I get to choose, right, I get to choose now,

(02:34:54):
I'm I want to go somewhere warm. And I ended
up going to New York Giants anyway, because you know
the market. I felt like the market opportunity UM there
was was the best sets, set up and and as
well as the talent level of the team. I was
very close And for me, obviously, I do the show

(02:35:14):
UM with Plexico, so we've been close for quite some time,
and he was on the team. Antonio Pierce is one
of my very very dear and close friends. He he's
the one that really really recruited me as heavily as
he did, and me and Mike Strahan had a great
relationship and not not like we were on the phone
every day, but you know, uh, just a great mutual

(02:35:35):
respect every time we played one another, So you know,
it just it just made sense. But back to urban Meyer,
I just think that it is a that's gonna be
a hard sell, even being Urban Meyer, that's going to
be a hard sell to a professional player that you

(02:35:57):
should come and play for me in Jacksonville. Well there's
two things that go to it. Short term, you can
get some of your fine money back because you won't
pay state income tax in Florida, so uh, some little
help there. Uh. The other is all the rumors that
eventually they end up in London. Anyway, come on, you
can be international. Keep hearing it. It keeps flowing. Every

(02:36:17):
time we get towards the next NFL calendar year, those uh,
those whispers get a little louder. It's kind of like,
you know, you're in the middle of a Harry Potter
scene and you hear Baltimore's voice going, Harry, it just
keep going London, London. See there there was my nerd moment.
We need to get one more movie in although I
am going to get a TV show in to find

(02:36:39):
your wins. Coming up here in a minute, as we
come to you alive from the Farmer's Insurance Fox Sports
Radio Studios. He's LaVar Arrington, King of the Mammals. We're
gonna start writing his book here at some point and
put all these stories either pen to paper at least
put it into software that will translate it, because I'd
love to see what that would look like. Uh, My Garment.

(02:37:00):
Thanks for hanging out with us. All our team assembled, Ilo, Iowa,
Sam and of course our executive producer Bo Benson. We
appreciate their efforts making a sound also pretty throughout the morning,
and coming up next, we're gonna find some wins and
and close out our time here on Fox Sports Radio
and Style. Hey, welcome back here. It's Fox Sports Sunday

(02:37:20):
Mike Carmen alongside three time pro bowler the All American
my guy, LaVar Arrington. Find his podcast up on Game Yeah.
You can hear it live here. The show live here
on Fox Sports Radios uh ten a m. To noon
on Saturdays that specific time, but you can always get
the podcast Apple podcast, Google Play, wherever you get your audio.

(02:37:43):
We appreciate you downloading it and continuing to expand those
numbers as LaVar, t J Hootchminzata and Flexco Buris Wax
poetic on the big stories of the day. Two hours
of goodness every Saturday. So going download it. Did I
do it enough justice? Oh? Absolutely? Then you go at
King of the Mammals where you find him on Instagram
as well, uh talking about his team, giving you some inspiration,

(02:38:06):
a lot of good deep thoughts from LaVar. If you're
looking for the hey, pause for a moment and let's
ponder the day. He'll get you deep in your own head.
It's pretty good. I dig it, no question about it.
Now it's time to uh to get in and find
a couple of ws flocker room squabbles, struggling teens, cheaters

(02:38:26):
and no account owners. There's so much negativity in sports
that it can ruin your day. But not Mike harmmt.
He's here to shine a light on the good at
sports with a simple mantra, find your win alright number one.
You can all laugh at me. So this is one
of your wins because if you think your bracket is
in trouble, mine's awful. Just read all over the place

(02:38:49):
and right now. Loyola Chicago all over Illinois inside of
three minutes, often the first half. Yeah, garbage, Iowa Sam
salty as well. Uh, already seventeen. It goes back to
do we believe the hype of the conferences as they
well did most of the damage against while playing themselves.
So that's what we're trying to figure out. And I

(02:39:10):
know Steve Hartman coming up with Rich Hornberger, he's gonna
talk a lot about that because he's gonna talk about
u c l A much like I talked about Chicago
all day. LaVar, You're gonna have a lot of u
c l A honk talk. Uh coming up here in
about ten minutes from now. I want to give some
some love to the Wisconsin women's team n C double

(02:39:33):
A title. They top Northeastern in overtime as Darryl Watts
had the puck behind the net, Megan Carter, the Huskies
defense defenseman, turned her back and she hit the puck
offer back and into the net. How about that. That's

(02:39:54):
how you end a title game in overtime. So that
was fantastic and one because I've thought this would be
highly entertaining for all of us, and especially with Iowa
Sam and attendance According to tech Radar, Mike Judge and
Greg Daniels are in quote hot negotiations to bring back

(02:40:15):
King of the Hill. They would advance the storyline fifteen years,
so Bobby would be a late twentysothing going, and hey,
kill would be going. Damn it, he's not right for
another generation. Hey, we can bring back cartoons all the time.
Is there one that you'd rather be see resurrected? Here? LaVar?

(02:40:39):
You know what I really want to see. I want
to see ThunderCats as a movie. I know you you
you used to yell out a lot of that and
then it got replaced by Mama. No. Yeah, I want
to see Thundercat. I gotta believe someone's bank rolling that,
bringing back everything else. I see uh fact as the
franchise available for purchase. Now you're talking, let's see then

(02:41:03):
let's put it together? All right? Well, you and I
that there's one of my takeaway notes for the week,
No question about it. Uh n C double A action,
fast and furious. We've got all of the bracketology that
folks have been excited about. But NFL Free Agency still
ruling the day. Will wait more legal ease. As related

(02:41:25):
to Deshaun Watson, but it was certainly a fun week
watching a bunch of dollar amounts being bandied about and
new TV deals. Always celebrate new TV deals, more streaming,
and more options, so always a curiosity. There maybe an
opportunity for you and I to go do some television
yelling about football as well. I'm already looking up ThunderCats.

(02:41:47):
See now, I've got it. I took him down the
rabbit hole. It's a final. He's LaVar Arrington. I'm Mike Carmen.
Thanks for hanging out with us here on Fox Sports Sunday.
