Don't listening to Fox Sports. Good eavening everyone. Aaron Torres

stick a genius one. By the way, enjoy spa like
comfort and save big on your water Belle with a
Nvion tankless water heater. Got dank was with Nveon, you
(00:23):
could save hundreds on a new Nevean tankless water heater
with local rebates. Visit tankless made simple dot com. How
you doing tonight? Torres already spanning here. I'm doing well man,
How you doing good? Got my first COVID shot on Friday,
so ready to go. I feel like if you took
my arm and put it in a vat of honey
(00:43):
and then put ten million red ants on it, eating
it away. That's what it feels like right now. So
otherwise I feel pretty good. What is that your vaccine? Yes,
my COVID? I feel fine? So yeah, I got my
first COVID vaccine shot and uh so far so good
right now? My friend, I get my US one on Monday,
so I don't need you scaring me. Okay, you know
I carry this show on Saturday's so and you know,
(01:06):
you never know when when when I might get a
pinch hit phone call for Fox Sports Radio. I don't
need my arm feeling like there's red ants running up
in or whatever you said. I don't know. I couldn't really,
I wasn't really paying attention. By the way, the the
young lady who gave you my shot very attractive, I
because she was like twenty five years old. I was
wearing a long sleeve shirts because well, that's okay, just
(01:26):
take off your shirt. And you know, so you do well,
you know, I'm pretty buff. You know that. Come on, now,
you gotta buff. Listen those clothes that are hanging up
on your your your tread, they didn't they didn't hang
them up themselves, my man. But uh yeah, and you
are the man that used to date supermodels in your twenties,
so it doesn't surprise me that they were swooning all
(01:47):
over you. All the nurses. Uh, we do have a
busy show. Like I said, you want to get in
there and underscore torres, I'm instinking genius one. Uh, a
lot of different things on a Saturday night. And by
the way, we are going to get into the draft.
We have Jason herschel and joining us an hour number two,
and of course Bernie Fratto in the Power Hour the
show as we always do UM on every Saturday night.
(02:09):
I just thought I was watching the Celtics. Of course
they starting to pull away from the Warriors. Did you
see who was? It? Was it? Uh Toscano who um
the dove into the uh you know, into the stands
and went over the media bench there. Did you see that?
Or no? I absolutely did. Yet for people that are
driving around, UM tight game Warriors Celtics fourth quarter Wantascano
(02:33):
Anderson kind of a role player wing guy for the Warriors,
dives over the table already. I don't know if we
ever got confirmation on what happened, but he had towels
over his head when he walked off, so I don't
know if he cut his head open or what the
deal was there. Yeah, I think that's what happened. He
cut his head open. And I'm saying to myself, if
you look at it to get on replay, there's two
media members, one male, one female who get out of
(02:54):
the way and let him tumble over the table. I'm like,
wait a minute now, if you're going to sit courtside.
Isn't that part of your job is to help some
of the athletes that are they're not it's not football
where they were in pads and helmets. Shouldn't you be
helping them like a baseball player or a basketball player
when they go tumbling into the stands or no or no,
that doesn't that's not part of your job. Couldn't you
(03:16):
just be in the way. Couldn't you be more of
a burden than anything? What are's supposed to catch them?
Like they're a cat falling out of a tree and
here a fire. When when you get on an airplate
and you sit in the emergency row exitus, you want
to the extra leg room, They say, hey, are you
willing to help? Can you open the door? And you can?
That's your job for the extra leg room. And you
either go yes or no. You say yes. Now you're
(03:37):
in charge of opening the door and you gotta stand there.
But that's what you get for the extra leg room.
You know what I'm talking. That's what you get for
sitting courtside. You gotta help the athletes when they go
diving in? Is this like you gotta sign a waiver?
Like before you do this, you gotta do that. So
before I just want to go cover the game for
the Boston Globe, I gotta agree that if some role
player for the Warriors comes flying at me a million
(03:59):
of miles an hour, I gotta take a charge for
the good of the game. Is that what you're telling me?
Have you ever gotten trounced by an athlete sitting on
the sideline or just watching on the sideline or anything
like that? Have you ever ever got run over like
that or what? No, but I did play high school football.
I trounced a couple of bad guys on the other team.
If you know what I'm saying. Look at me years
three years of doing the show with you, I never
knew you played high school football. What do you like
(04:20):
the Hunter Hall High class of oh three? We went
five and five my senior year. Hate to brag um.
And by the way, I mentioned last week my high
school football career because of the unfortunate passing of DMX
that was our pregame ritual. Was a lot of DMX
back in the day. But No, I played defensive end linebacker.
I was a little bit undersize, but they threw me
(04:41):
on the old line sometimes. Uh. I guess I don't
know what a line, but I guess I don't know what.
I was like Brian Bosworth. I was like the I
was like the uh the high school Brian Bosworth in Connecticut.
I mean, I'm not gonna line. Don't really play that
much until my senior year, but I played hard, baby.
I mean, you know, here's the prom Marty. I'll tell you.
I have almost the the the the worst possible body
(05:04):
type to play football because I'm not super tall, so
I couldn't be like a tight end or whatever. I'm
not like heavy enough to be an offensive lineman. I
did play some old line. I'm not fast enough to
be a wide receiver. I'm a decent athlete, you know,
I'm kind of like, uh, I'm trying to think of
like an NBA player. I was like a Rick Mahorn type.
Like there was just you know, you know, like I like,
(05:26):
I have that body type, like I'm not short, but
I'm not really tall enough to be like a premier athlete.
So that's how I wish. I wish I would have
played football. I just didn't like people touching me, so
um that that's probably not a good sport to play.
When we don't like that, and that's how you ended
up at the towboy on the basketball team. Wow. No,
every team needs bench warmers, all right, we do have
(05:47):
a lot to get to. Like I said, you want
to be part of the show, Aaron Underscore tours. I've
been stinking genius one. Are you all drafted out by
the way on the NFL draft or you just loving it?
As we get closer less than two weeks away, I
don't even know what to make with the number three
pick anymore. I I keep saying there was no way
San Francisco was gonna trade up to take back Jones.
Everybody proved me wrong. Over the next two weeks. I said, Okay,
(06:08):
I'm wrong, They're taking up Mac Jones. And now we
find out Justin Fields Vegas wise is now the favorite
to be taking at number three. My head is spinning.
I don't know. I don't even know what to believe anymore.
For for all I know they're gonna bring Dan Marino
out of retirement, there's something. It's crazy. I can't figure
it out who they're gonna take. I never thought they
were gonna take back Jones. But at this point, to me,
(06:29):
it's fifty fifty. Well, I saw one mock draft today
that and it was a credible one that had Matt
Jones at three, Trey Lance at four, and Justin Fields
falling down to seven or eight wherever the Broncos are drafting.
You know, But listen, what I'll say is, uh, Kyle
Shanahan and the San Francisco forty Niners staff are doing
their job. Nobody knows, nobody knows where they're gonna go,
(06:50):
what they're gonna do. I know that Justin Fields had
a second Pro Day and they kind of show like
like this is what draft season is, Arenie. I mean,
I could think back to a couple of things. I mean,
I remember a couple of years ago, nobody believed Trabisky
was gonna go number two. He does. Nobody believed Blake
Bortles was gonna go as early as he did. I
still remember, what was it three years ago? There was
(07:12):
no talk that Baker Mayfield was gonna go number one
until about a day or so before the draft. So
it is crazy how these narratives formed. But I'm with you. Three,
for whatever reason, does seem like the inflection point. Obviously
Trevor Lawrence. But then it seems like Zach Wilson is
pretty tight in at number two. Where are you on interest?
Because I fight with my local host here, my local
co host, the Country Bumpkin from Jericho, my my partner
(07:35):
rich who Who's I don't want to talk about the
Patriots and who they're gonna I go, the Patriots are
like a big name in this in this draft. You
don't know if they're gonna trade up there looking for
a quarterback, Are they gonna sign a free agent? Are
they gonna make a trade the Red Dogs of one
nine in a row? I go, who cares about Game
twelve when you're nine and three, nine and four, ten
(07:56):
and five, whatever the heck you are? I I go,
I got another hundred and forty plus games left on
the thing. He was all drafted out, he couldn't take
it anymore. But I'm like, I don't know if anybody
cares about Game twelve of of Major League Baseball, though
I'm I'm all into this Dodger Padres series. To be
honest with you, it sounds like what your radio partner
is to you during the week you are to me
(08:18):
on the weekend because you drive me crazy. But no,
I'm I'm actually on your side on this one. I
think the draft is fascinating this year. And look, I
mean there's been years where it really isn't all that good.
Remember the year Kyler Murray went number one and it
was like there was nobody else really that interesting that
was here. Daniel Jones went Dwayne but there was no
We We tried to force it on this show and
(08:38):
across the network I'm sure as well, and it just
wasn't there. But this year, I think there's genuine intrigue.
You and I duked it out on Mac Jones the
other day, but I think you know, he is one
of many good topics along with why is justin fields falling? Can? Why?
Why are why are people high on Trey Lance when
they haven't seen him play in eighteen months? Who were
the best defensive players? I think the three wide receivers,
(09:00):
the two Alabama kids in Jamaar Chase from LSU. I
think this stuff is fascinating. I'm loving every second of it,
and yes, I would much prefer to break this down
then the Red Sox long relief and uh, you know
when they went to the left, yes exactly. Maybe you
ask you this because you were all into the numbers
from Mac Jones talking about the four in your plus
yards passing and the this and that touchdowns, very little
(09:23):
interceptions or the uh completion percentage over. I know you
saw the numbers that Colin put up on his show
that after the first progression, if they don't have if
you don't throw it to the open guy or to
the first receiver when you make the checkdown and look
at your other receivers. Uh, Mac Jones was like number
five or number six out of all the quarterbacks. Um,
(09:44):
you know that are gonna be taken in the draft
or even maybe even lower than that. I don't remember
the the exact number. I don't know if you saw that.
That was from Pro Football Focus? Do you read it?
And I'm sorry I can't give you the exact number,
but do you does that bother you at all? As
you are numbers guy? You know I love that. Hey,
were you watching Colin at ten forty two on Wednesday?
Because there was a graphic that was really I don't
(10:05):
really remember it exactly. It was Pro Football It was
Pro Football Focus, But I mean, I don't know if
you saw it, but I mean, does that bother you
at all? Though? Well so for people who are are
driving around. Yet last week, Arnie and I duked it out.
I am not a numbers guy. All Arnie said was
anyone could do what Mac Jones did at Alabama. I
said he had the highest completion percentage in the history
(10:26):
of college football. So it's very clear that not anyone
could do what he did. But you know, listen, I
think the the all these things paint a picture, right, um,
But I do think you have to dive deeper into
the numbers, like there was uh something that Colin said
that I found interesting was that there was just this
narrative floating around that Justin Fields never goes to his second, third,
fourth progression. Then somebody looked it up and the numbers
(10:49):
actually dispute that heavily. And so the point, the only
point I'm trying to make, Arnie, I'll toss it back
to you, is all of these numbers matter, and they
all paint a picture. And you have to use all
of these variables. Who who is he, who did he play,
who did he play with? What conference? This stat that's
that completion percentage, downfield passing, second, third, fourth progressions. These
(11:10):
are all little pieces to a puzzle. That all these
teams are putting together right now. Wouldn't it be fair
to say that the stat you value the most is,
you know, with the four hundred yards in the completion
that's going into the first receiver, You're not how many
times do you throw into the first receiver when your
quarterback in the NFL? Maybe less than that. I I
(11:30):
don't know, And there's got to be a lot of
checkdown and that's that's gonna be the difference between a
good quarterback and a great quarterback. To be clear, it's
not that I value that stat the most. You asked
me why I believe that mac Jones was moving so
fast up draft boards, and I said, I believe that
most decision makers spend all year focused on their team
and don't turn onto the draft until this time of year.
(11:52):
And when they did, they realized that mac Jones was
super accurate, uh downfield pastor and he did have great
talent around Marty. And so to answer your question, and yeah,
of course, I mean listen, and this is the big
question with mac Jones, and it's not just a numbers
percentage thing. It's that his best wide receiver was the
Heisman Trophy winner, his best. His running back was the
(12:12):
best running back in this draft. His number two wide
receiver is maybe the second best wide receiver in this draft.
He didn't even play half this season. Um, you know
he threw to all these guys in practice every day
and so like, like there's a legitimate reason. While I
can argue the why Mac Jones is moving up draft boards,
there was also legitimate reason, uh to be concerned about
(12:33):
potentially drafting him at number three overall as well. Sam
with Justin Fields great, I'm I'm terrible on my stories today,
but remind me of a story. Um, there was a
there's a Jets player and they said, you know they
talk about Zack Wilson and Mac Jones stowing off the
you know, uh wrong foot, you know, across their body
and and on their pro day. What a great tone.
The best thing I ever saw Sam Donald did in
(12:55):
the NFL either in the game against NFL tiled out
of touchdown and nobody's saying anything of that, but owing
and I with a guy in pro day when the
weather is just perfect and the conditions are perfect, and
nobody's rushing and there's no defense and you're owing and
eyeing over something like that I think we make too
much of these pro days. You know, well and listen,
you know, this is all sports, right. I mean, it's
(13:16):
so funny because we just came out of this n
c A tournament, and we always going into college basketball
focus on all these star freshmen and look at this guy,
and look at that guy, and yeah, Jalen Sucks had
the moment two weeks ago, almost to this exact minute.
But for the most part, the teams that win, it's
the veteran teams that don't have the star elite NBA
talent like a Baylor, like a Virginian previous years, Villanova, whatever.
(13:36):
So I'm just bringing it up to say we do
this in all sports. But you're right, it's like, you know,
we we get so excited about a Justin Fields, a
Trey Lancer, whoever, like Carson Wentz, has played at an
m v P level and was available this offseason. You know,
there's a reason that Bill Belichick chose to sign Cam
Newton last offseason rather than draft a quarterback. There's a
reason that potentially Cam Newton is coming back next year
(13:58):
rather than signing a or drafting a quarterback. And so
it is funny how We do this in all sports
as we get so focused on what's next that we
sometimes take for granted the guys that are right in
front of us that have been doing it for a while. Alright,
we're often running. You want to be part of the show,
aeron Underscore Tourist, I'm in stinking genius one. What does
Torres and Trevor Lawrence have in common? I'm gonna tell
(14:18):
you they're both not all into the professions. I think
we'll get to that coming up with the Elite. They're
coming up next right here on Fox Sports Radio. Fox
Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot
com and within the I Heart Radio app. Search f
s R to listen live. Alright, good evening everyone, Aaron Torres,
(14:43):
Arnie Spaniard right here on Fox Sports or Radio. You
want to be part of the show, real simple. We'll
get to some tweets are and Underscore Touris. I'm in
stinking genius one, um like Rob says Torres. Unlike that
choking much stinking genius who fantasizes about being as clutch
as kemba walk overall action. Well, thank you, Rob, I
appreciate that, Thank you. Relax on the UH Celtics and
(15:05):
a couple of clutch three pointers, big victory Steph Curry
with seven tonight? About that, my friend, unbelievable Torrez, Where
do you stand on the first of all, do you
have a a favorite for the NBA M v P
right now? I have a guy that I have in mind,
But I'm curious what you have to say. Yeah, go ahead, Well,
I was gonna say the reason I bring it up
is because Steph has been absurd over about the last
(15:27):
ten days and people are starting to bring his name
back up, and in that conversation, that's why I bring
it up. I would have it in the conversation. I
mean there's I mean there's a lot of names, but
stuff I would say is in my top two or three.
I mean Damian Lillard obviously um hardened, but I would
I would say Steff is right up there. Why other
people kind of dismissing him or what? No, there's people
(15:48):
not dismissing him. Charles Barkley brought up uh Chris Paul
the other day. I think Chris the Sons for people
who are just now catching up with the NBA A
after March Madness. The Sons are in second place in
the West after they basically haven't made the playoffs since
Arnie Spanier was doing talk radio and picking up his
(16:09):
wife at uh, you know, at a charity event over
there in Phoenix back in the early nineties. So Charles
Barkley brought that up the other day, and it is interesting, like,
you know, you talk about value everywhere Chris Paul goes
man like I was one of those guys. I never
was really all that crazy. I thought he was fine.
I thought he was a good player. But last year
he goes to Okay, see they make the playoffs. This
(16:30):
year he goes to Phoenix and they immediately go to
the top of the standing. So, uh, that's the guy
that I would have a lot of Steph buzz the
last few weeks. And you want to take one staff
though there's only one guy in the top five in
both points and assist though, and that that you gotta well,
I mean, that's that's a pretty big thing. Though. You
wanna Luca Luca. Okay, he's fifteen points eight point four
(16:55):
and he's tied from fourth with assist at eight point eight.
Nobody else is in the top five in both points
and assist and I would say with Luca to the
Mavericks are at least in the playoff picture. I think
the biggest thing working against Steph is I understand you
could talk about how valuable he is to the Warriors
without Clay Thompson, but they're on the outside looking into
(17:16):
the playoffs right now. And it's like it's hard for
me with Steph too. And I think he's been awesome,
but it's hard to justify given a guy league m
v P if his team can't make the playoffs. You know,
Will says, when I was in prison, we'd all listen
to Stick of Genius and narratoris every weekend I get out.
We still do? Does that make me institutionalized? Um wasn't
a little bit late to be listening to us? And
(17:36):
who's we would all that? There you go, everyone circled
around and in the mess hall, you know, my mess hall.
And it's like if you're on the West coast, eight
nine o'clock, you're don't you have to be in your cell?
I I don't understand that isn't it isn't it cell time?
And the doors have to close it like nine o'clock
or can just walk around until two o'clock in the morning. Listen,
you can't go around are and he bragging that we
(17:59):
are number one among prisoners? How long have I said that?
How long have I said that? I mean at least
standing back to two thousand twenty because it was during
Christmas time that you brought it up every hour on
the hour, and so you believe me, now, huh, Well,
that's what I'm saying. You can't say that we're number
one among prisoners and then be mad when the prisoners
are listening in all hours. They're they're they're they're risking
(18:20):
getting getting getting their cell rated to listen to torres
it span here man, would you do a remote if
we pick a prison, you know, we go out there
and do a remote or something like that. I mean,
Johnny Cash did it right live from San Quentin. Why
can't we tourist and Spann tourist going, Yeah, I think
stuff Curry should be the m v P. And then
somebody staid in the umbers. Again, I don't think he
(18:41):
should be the m v P. And I don't think
so either. You're right about who do you like? Sirs? Sirry? Okay?
You're you're more of a joke guy. Okay, cool, cool,
I want to talk on the radio. Come right up, sir,
Come come right up there, would you please? Trevor Lawrence.
Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness, was this was absolutely
incredib a ball um he was talking about you know,
(19:02):
he does a interview. Uh, he pretty much says, And
he drew a lot of criticism for this, saying he
admits he doesn't have a huge chip on my shoulder,
that everyone's out to get me and I'm trying to
prove him wrong. He also said it's not like I
need this for my life to be okay. Um, everybody
had a big deal about that. Oh he's not all in.
He's not all in the football. When he said something
(19:22):
like this warning flag or um, no big deal. When
he says something like this, tores, what are you thinking?
So I had two quick thoughts on it. One when
he says he doesn't have a chip on his shoulder.
You know, he doesn't have a chip on his shoulder.
It's because he's never been doubted, like you have to.
You have to be doubted at some point to have
a chip on your shoulder. Yeah, Michael Jordan's chip, but
(19:43):
he got cut As a freshman in high school, Trevor
Lawrence was the number one high school player in America
from his sophomore year on. Gets to Clemson, we're on
air three games in, he beats out Kelly Bryant for
the starting job, wins a national championship in year one,
and then as far as the whole, he doesn't need football,
he doesn't want this, he doesn't want that. You know,
my whole thing is a couple of things, aren't he one?
(20:03):
We watched the games we were on their two years
ago when they played Ohio State and he got crushed
out there and led them to a double digit victory.
And so I would just say to me, I actually
respect the comments more than anything. It's easy for every athlete.
Oh I got a chip on my shoulder, I got
the Mamba mentality. Not all these guys are Tom Brady,
Not all these guys are Kobe or m J. It's okay.
(20:25):
It doesn't make him not really good, and it doesn't
make him not love football. You know, it it bothers
me a little bit because I'm one of those guys
that does have a chip on his shoulder, you know,
what I mean. Um, well, I don't know about you,
but I always feel like I you know, I always
get the raw end. I'm always getting go. I never
make that listed to his top ten, top one hundred,
(20:45):
top two million. Now, I never make those lists. For
crying out loud, I'm like, what that? Why? Why did
I've been in the business thirty five years? You're thinking
you think I'd make the top two million or something.
No I got And I've had some major job in
l A, Dallas, two or three different networks, Atlanta, Um,
my goodness, man, and I never make any of those lists.
(21:06):
I I know what it's like. Made you feel like
you get overlooked. You're like, you know, blank, everybody come
in with a huge ship, and I think you gotta
have that in our business. You're gonna have that in
a lot of different businesses, and being a quarterback, it's
got to be one of them. Um. You know what
you know, it's kind of exciting a big contract tourist
and then you're like, well, next year he's not going
to play as well as when he was in the
option year, or he was gonna be a free agent.
(21:27):
You hear that all the time. I wonder if it's
kind of the same analogy, or is that reaching too
much for something like this. So essentially what you're saying
is he's quote unquote made it and he's gonna be
a millionaire now he doesn't have to work as hard. Yeah. Well,
I mean it's hard to think like that when you're
just starting with the NFL right now, But it seems
like that's a little bit of his mindset, like if
(21:48):
I don't make another time, I still got this to
fall back on or something. I I don't know. I
kind of don't like the attitude he did straighten up
saying nobody likes football more than me and blah blah blah.
And you know, obviously he's into it. You don't become
the number one pick overall, um, you know, not being
all into it. I'm thinking I think maybe we could
just kind of read into it a little too much,
you know. And it was really interesting. I was hosting
(22:09):
on The Odd Couple yesterday with Rob Parker. Real professional
is great to well, yes, and uh, we took unlike
you absolutely, you know, we took a lot of calls
on this in the vast majority arty it was one
that felt like it would be more controversial than it was,
and everybody was kind of on the same boat. Is like,
it's you know, it's okay to not be uh, you know,
(22:30):
Michael Jordan's killer mentality if it works for you. And
the analogy that I used Arnie Patrick Mahomes, I mean,
is Patrick Mahomes a frow thing at the mouth kind
of guy because he doesn't strike me, is that he
doesn't strike me as Mamba mentality, mj mentality, Tom Brady mentality.
I think he's doing pretty good for himself. Why can't
we just let these guys be themselves, you know, because
(22:52):
we're the media. We got at every word that comes
out of his mouth. He knows he's the number one pick.
When he says he's not all into it, that's like
breaking news for crying out loud, what's wrong with youres
it is? But what I would say, and we talked
about this. So we actually talked about it with Justin
Fields two weeks ago. The Danilovsky quotes, I get it,
dan or law. You know, listen, dani Rolovski heard it
from somebody credible that he that that Justin Fields was
(23:15):
first guy in the last one to leave. But the
argument that I made on this show at that time
was dani Ulovsky has every right to say that we
don't have anything in our track record of knowing Justin
Fields as a quarterback to verify that, and so I
bring it up. It's the same with Trevor Lawrence. Trevor
Lawrence and Justin Fields, those two guys fought for college
football more than anyone last year, Arnie. When when there
(23:38):
was talk, when the first real talk that the season
was gonna be canceled, the Big Ten wasn't gonna play,
and everybody else was gonna follow suit, Trevor Lawrence and
Justin Fields were the two guys that are out in
front saying we want to play. If this kid didn't
love football, if Justin Fields didn't love football, they could
have sat out all last year. It wouldn't have impacted
their draft stock at all. And so to me, I understand, Listen,
(24:00):
I'll say this, I do understand where you can have
the concern seeing that quote, but I also feel like
at a certain time, at a certain point, you have
to take the context of what we've seen over the
last three years since he got to Clemson and kind
of use that in the context as well. As the quote,
and when you put them together, it's hard for me
to believe that Trevor Lawrence doesn't love football. So if
(24:22):
your wife came up to you and said, well, you know,
I'm not all into this marriage and I can take
it or leave in and that's okay with you, then right, Well,
the equivalent that you're basically saying is that she says
it two days before the wedding, a week before the wedding,
because Trevor Lawrence about a week before the wedding. But
here's the thing, though, and what I would say about that, Um,
I guess it's a fair analogy. Um One, you know,
(24:44):
I would say, a week before my wedding, I don't
have four other really good choices just that that are
ready to go that the next week like the Jacksonville
Jaguars do. But you know, to me, I think what
what I would say is you do your research as
as a man or a woman in a relationship, and
if they tell you a week before the wedding, I'm
not into this. There were probably signs along the way,
(25:06):
and it's been urban Meyer's job over the last four
months to do some research along uh on Trevor Lawrence
to see if if there's any concern about these quotes.
If you're the best I can do, then I guess
I'm okay with it. Then you know, if if you're
the best I can do, you know, see, but that's
the difference, though Herbert Meyer has four other really well,
that's what he said though, because if that's you know,
(25:28):
if this is the best it is, and you know,
I'm okay with that. That's what he said. All Right,
we'll get more into that. You want to jump in
the air another score, Torres, I've been thinking genius one.
We'll come back. We'll talk more about Trevor Lawrence. I
want to get into some NFL over others. Our first
check into the night. Let's see what's trending, which Steve
the Sager? What's going on the Sager? Hello, gentlemen, aren't
Since you won't talk red socks, I must say I
(25:49):
was gonna bring this up anyway. Did you see those
Red Sox uniforms at Fenway days ago when they put
them out jerseys well with light blue and light blue
caps with the be They look like the U c
l A. Bruins. The game was on FS one today
and yeah, the Red Sox have been great and for
that matter, the Celtics one tonight. It's it's a great
(26:10):
time in New England this past couple of weeks. But
the City Connect uniforms. You know how we have the
color Rush for the NFL and we've got City Connect
that's like a credit card. Well, they can't call it
city because the NBA already has the city uniforms. So
Nike has this City Connects series where a few teams
this year, a few teams next and so forth. So
Boston is the first one to roll about. You look
(26:31):
in the dug out, it's some bright yellow jerseys and
not at all except with the blight blue. It looks
like U C l A. Really, I feel like out
of this breakar and he's gonna say in for for
the best point value total sign up for City Connect Radio.
It does at least say Boston across it, so the
(26:51):
city name, but they say it with the light blue
apparently is the Boston Marathon colors. And here we got
Patriots Day coming up, and so that that's why they're
wearing them today and one of the games tomorrow. And
then if you look at the sleeve, it's like a
runner's bib on the sleeve the number six one seven,
which is the Fenway Park area code. So there is
something to it. It's just wow. That really takes you
(27:13):
by the way. The earliest start for a baseball game locally,
am how about that? Oh? Every year? Every yeah? Yeah, Monday. Yeah.
So we're gonna have Giants and Dodgers with the awful
new sum sort of uniforms this year, and Cubs and
White Sox as well, and Marlins will find out in
(27:33):
a month, Diamondbacks the month after that. The Dodgers will
be the last one late August. I have read so
what it's gonna be red and green or something, but
the city connects. That's that's the start. They got off
to the Red Sox wearing bright yellow today and tomorrow
for one of the doubleheader games. And yes, the Red
Sox one again four runs, bottom of the eights, beat
the White Sox seven four, Boston's record ten and four.
(27:55):
They have a double header tomorrow because they had a
snow out last night. Speaking of Jersey, the Sports Business
Journal says NHL jersey advertising could become a reality, not
next season, but the season after that. That clubs have
been conducting some work to determine what a jersey patch
and a helmet decale of the sponsor could be worth
and then giving that data to the league. So they
are most definitely down that road on a permanent basis.
(28:18):
I mentioned Boston Celtics. What a game tonight in the NBA.
Celtics won their sixth straight beat Golden State one fourteen
Jayson Tatum forty four points. Jalen Brown of the Celtics
was out due to illness. Steph Curry was okay again,
stay by j t A what hustle he goes tumbling
over the scars table. Curry gets it, takes the trouble,
three ball, good for Curry. Seven the game. Warriors radio
(28:39):
Steph Curry and defeat forty seven points. That's ten straight
games with at least thirty The four game went. I
deserved a while. Four straight wins. That goes by the board,
that streak of the Warriors, So they're twenty eight and
twenty nine. To keep the lines open. If I had
a nickel for every time you said that, I'd literally
(29:00):
they could retire. I got a feeling today he may
just may be listening to me out there, So who knows.
Lakers in overtime, but Utah today or what's left to
the Lakers against what's left of Utah. More accurately, the
late game tonight, the Spurs are ripping the Suns and
Phoenix late third quarter eighty five to fifty eight. As
for the MLB feature matchups this weekend, it's the series
(29:21):
with the Dodgers in San Diego last night and absolute
classic that went after midnight Pacific time. A Dodger twelve
inning victory, superb pitching tonight as expected, Clayton Kershaw against
you Darvish. It's Dodgers now to nothing in the top
of the night justin turner is Homeward. Kershaw went six
scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, got a double play to
(29:42):
end the sixth. You Darvish had a perfect game going
in the fifth night and then hit a batter, allowed
a single and a walk to load them up, and
then gave up a basis loaded walk to Clayton Kershaw,
who had kept fouling off pitches to stay alive. It's
been great. And meanwhile x Dodgers Zack Grenky with a
superb outing for Houston in tonight, eight scoreless inning, six strikeouts,
(30:03):
no walks in that game at Seattle, it's the Strolls
one nothing over, the Mariners top of the night, Houston
one run and ten hits. And the Minnesota at Angels
game was due to be on FS one tonight postponed
tonight and tomorrow's game postponed in Anaheim to allow for
more COVID testing, and the Twins organization back to you,
all right, thanks at the Sager. You want to go
ahead and jump on in Aaron under Score Tours. I'm
(30:25):
in stinking Genius one on a busy Saturday night. By
the way, Jason said, sticking Genius your number one in
our hearts. My friend tied with Aaron Torres and Plank
that is yeah. I think I hit rock bottom Plank
because when I found out that Ben Maller made the
top one hundred and I didn't make the top two millions,
so I I was I was kind of I go,
Mallard made the top one on you and I didn't
(30:45):
make anything. What the heck is going on here? For
crying out loud? So I was kind of upset about that.
I would say, you know, I don't want to put
it on on one person, but I think your host
in Jericho must be holding you back. I will say, well,
you can't complain about not making the top two hundred
when they did that. B I think it was Brian
no wrote that big, long article about you, five thousand
(31:07):
words from the day you were born till the day
it was written. Your reference, Chris Plank, your reference Vermont
zero mention of Eric Torres, So I feel, I feel
zero sympathy for you. Must have forgot. I forgot. I'm
carrying you your entire career. You owe everything to me.
J D says already you aren't necessarily wrong in your
take on Trevor, but never forget he's going to go
(31:28):
number one in the NFL. Drafted with him without playing
the season. But he stood on the table, pounded the lantern,
and pretty much forced a college football season. That's what
you brought up, Torres. Uh, he could have been number
one whether he played or not. So um. He obviously
wanted to get out there. He knew he had a
great team. Though, I can't wait to see what he's
gonna be able to do on a not good team.
(31:49):
See that's the difference. We know he's a great quarterback,
but what happens to a great quarterback when you're playing
on not such a great team. How much does that
bring you down? Are you able to elevate uh, you know,
your team? In basketball, it seems like a great person
is able to elevate the team. I don't know if
that's necessarily the case right now. It's a great question.
(32:09):
And this is not you know you you look at
some of these other recent first first overall picks. I mean, uh,
Kyler Murray goes to the Cardinals and and new coach
and new scheme and new like like, and I get
Urban Meyer is new. The Jaguars have basically been irrelevant
minus one year with Blake Borders where they got hut
in the playoffs, for for what fifteen years, I mean,
(32:31):
you know, twenty years. I know they made a nice
run early under Tom Coughlin in the nineties, but the
nineties were a long time ago. And so this isn't
just like a one year tip like when Andrew Luck
went to the Colts, like it was one year paytman
and gets hurt whatever. This is a dysfunctional organization. They
haven't had their stuff together for you know how, for
a long, long, long time. I will say, though, I
(32:51):
do think it's a different deal with Urban Meyer. I
think they're trending in the right direction. I don't think
too many quarterbacks have taken really bad teams and have
elevated them. Um, it's easier to do it in the NBA.
UM baseball is in significant whenever he comes to the
draft out there. But but I mean it's tough. I
mean hockey you can do it a little bit, but
it's it's tough in the NFL. It's a great point
(33:12):
because Aaron Rodgers walked into a really good situation in
Green Bay. Uh. Patrick Mahomes walked into a playoff team
in uh in case, so that I don't want to
tear down what they've done because I think they're elite talents,
but they did walk into good situations. By the way,
on the flip side, you mentioned playing for a bad
team behind a bad old line. Look what happened to
(33:32):
Joe Burrow this year. He was awesome and he he
got killed back there. And so I'm excited to see
Trevor Lawrence. And I'll say this too. People were talking about,
you know, justin fields, does he drop does he go
at number three? There's something to be said about going
number one overall, but going number three to San Francisco
at that defense, with that old line with Kyle Shanahan.
(33:54):
Not a bad deal, you know, No, not a bad
deal at all. You want to go ahead and jump
on in Aaron underscore tour is I've been thinking genius one.
I still got to get to some of those NFL
over unders. I didn't want to talk about my new
Arizona coach. I will get to some of the late games.
All that coming up next right here on Fox Sports
or Radio. All right, welcome back to Fox Sports or Radio.
(34:16):
Aaron Torres, AREN'TI Spaniard? By the way, for hot water
that never runs out, go Tankless with Nevia Nevian Tankless Water.
He does provide endless hot water for spa like comfort.
Visit Tankless made Simple dot Com and save hundreds with
local rebates Tankless made Simple dot Com. I want to
(34:36):
read what Sharon just said? Did I like what Trevor said?
His place shows that he loves the game and wants
to win. There's no doubt he has the passion. He
doesn't have to play with the obsession and arrogance of
Tom Brady, who is famous for having that chip on
his shoulder. Um, no, he doesn't have to share it,
but it certainly helps, doesn't tres when yet I've got
that attitude, No, I don't think so. I think it
(34:57):
hurts a lot of guys. I mean, look at Baker Mayfield.
You know, Ker Mayfield has four years talked about how
it fuels him and it does this, and it does that.
And I've seen him make a lot of really bone
headed plays in really tight situations in the NFL. And
so I think, listen, it clearly works for Tom Brady,
it worked for um, you know, it worked for Kobe Bryant,
it worked for Michael Jordan's. But I think there's a
(35:19):
lot of different ways to be a very great player
and be very skilled and very passionate about a sport.
I mentioned Patrick mahomes Uh. Steph Curry, who we just
saw drop another forty whatever point says he have a
killer mentality. Yes, but he does it with a smile
on his face. There are more than one way to
be a great player in professional sports. And if anything,
(35:41):
I give him credit for not making up some BS
line that just isn't true. All right, this is why
I don't make the top two million. I said I
was gonna go do nfl over and there's I'm not
paying off that tease. I'll do that next hour. I
said I was gonna get to my Arizona Wildcats getting
a new coach. I'll do that next hour too. We're
gonna talk about Pratt Stevens. I'll do that next hour
to Uh. The reason I bring that up, did you
see the uh nfl um m v P quarterback odds.
(36:06):
I don't know if you saw that from a couple
of days ago Torres, where they list every quarterback in
their chance of winning the m v P. At the
bottom of the list Trey Lance. I don't know what
team he's going to get three hundred to one. Uh.
They had Zack Wilson two hundred to one, so a
big difference there, along with Justin Fields at two to one.
They have Teddy Bridgewater one one. I'm trying to fain,
(36:27):
so would they have Ryan Fitzpatrick too. I'm trying to
find out where they have Trevor Lawrence. If here's a
good long shot Ben Roethlisberger a hundred and fifty to one, UM,
and then they have, oh my goodness, they have Trevor
Lawrence to be the m v P at eight to one,
ahead of people like Matt Ryan, Daniel Jones, Sam Donald,
(36:52):
and Jimmy Garoppolo. And one A little amazing there, Huh.
It is, but it isn't. It is, but it isn't
because it's what we talked about. One. Everybody loves what's
next more than they love what is in the present.
But what I would also say is, I don't think
it's ridiculous at all. We've seen three years of Sam Donald,
(37:13):
We've seen four or five years that Jimmy Garoppolo. I
don't think Jimmy Garoppolo is as bad as people make
him out to be, but he ain't winning an NFL
m v P. And the thing with the m v
P two now, the quarterback play is just so good
that your stats have to be so absurd that Trevor
Lawrence in theory could do it. He's not gonna do
it next year. I just don't think Sam Donald or
(37:36):
Jimmy Garoppolo is good enough to put up the stats
that you now need forty plus touchdowns, you know. Whatever.
It has been the last couple of years with Aaron Rodgers,
Patrick Mahomes, all that stuff. I don't know that those
guys can do it. So they got two and six?
What you got your to a jersey? You got your
(37:57):
wife at two a jersey? Come on, where's the faith?
A matter of fact? Sixties six and one, not only
two of but Jamis Winston, Kirk Cousins and Cam Newton.
You might as well really take your toilet money and
flush it down the toilet if you're a beat Cam Newton,
by the way, Joe Burrows at fifty two one for
the Bengals, get out of you. I haven't been a
jas dating supermodels. Then him coming back and win the
(38:18):
m v P. I think that's kind of crazy. Don't
you let me ask you a question? You're you're I
gotta ask you about two and I know this is
a little bit off subject quarterback in the a f
C East going into next year. If you're a fan you,
Arnie Spanier, would you rather have Zach Wilson of the Jets,
Cam Newton of the Patriots, or to a tongue of
Viola of the Dolphins. I'd rather have to Okay, that's
(38:43):
that's probably the right answer. But I thought you were
so jaded that you would pick Cam Newton. I really
did well, no, I'm not. I'm not picking Cam. Are
you kidding me? Kim's washed up, he's done, and there's
there's nothing left to take for him. You might as
well forget it. Um. They have Baker Mayfield like forty
to one if you want to bet him. Carson one
said thirty to one, along with Tannehill and Justin Herbert
(39:04):
Russell Wilson's twenty to one, so you're not getting too
far off that. And here's one that really caught my attention.
Dak Prescott at twenty two one. Is he primed to
come back after that injury and have a big year
for the Cowboys? I maybe all inding on the Cowboys
like I was last year. You know. Yeah, you can't
just go yeah, he's my pick until he has one
bad game and then you change it. So it'll be
(39:26):
what he got hurts when I went downhill for him, obviously. Yeah,
I would say with with with Dak, I don't think
he's a bad bet at all because statistically he's gonna
put up monster numbers and it's just a matter of
whether the defense is gonna be better with Dan Quinn
is the defensive coordinator instead of uh Mike Nolan, who
probably should never have had that job in the first place. Anyway.
The top picks Stafford at eighteen, the one Tom Brady
(39:47):
is sixteen, the one UH Kyle Murray is fourteen to one.
Lamar Jackson's also fourteen to one, then Josh Allen a
twelve to one, Aaron Rodgers eight to one, and of
course Patrick mahomes the front runner at six to one.
So um, some value there. Tom Brady at six one
not bad if he has a big year, but he
never puts up that type of numbers. You know that's
(40:07):
not bad. Yeah, I think you kind of laid out
the big ones there. There's nobody that immediately comes to mind.
By the way, the Dodgers game just ended on a
diving play by Mookie Bets in center field. They beat
the Padres two to nothing. My Dodgers, they're just they
may not lose another game the rest of the year.
Let's shut up with you get all right? Our one
(40:28):
just too flew on by. You want to get in
Aaron underscore tours. I'm at stinking genius one. We are
going to get to those nfl over and there's like
I promised, um, we'll come back we'll get more NFL.
Jason Hershorn will stop on by. He'll join us in
about twenty past the hour. The Segre will come on in.
I want to get a little bit into the NBA
talking about the ratings, and I saw the Lakers win today,
so plenty coming up right here, Aaron underscore tours. I'm
(40:51):
a stink of genius one. This is Fox Sports Radio. Ah,
that is uh, Sara Torres Arnie spanning your right here
on Fox Sports Radio. By the way, discovered matches all
the cash back you're on your credit card at the
end of your first year. It's amazing because you see
discovers excepted that nine nine percent of the places in
the US that take credit cards. Learn more discovered dot
(41:14):
com slash Yes. Neelson Report limitations do apply, uh, Aaron
Torres Arnie Spaniard. We do have a lot of NFL
to get to, so I'll go ahead and we'll touch
on that a little bit. By the way, Torres, that
you guys getting back to a little bit of normalcy
out there. Are you going out to restaurants? So you're
gonna start going back to games. You're gonna go to
(41:35):
the baseball games. What the what is going on out
there with you? You know, everything is great here. I
actually went to your favorite city, Las Vegas for a
few days this week, get away post March madness. It
was nothing crazy, I was. I was there with my
mom and some family. Uh late, pretty low, but we
hit the strip. The Strip was busy, busiest for I'm
(41:55):
telling you for m Monday and Tuesday night. And I
was there Wednesday too. I was stunned at how many
people are were in Vegas, and so Vegas is getting
back to normal. The restaurants we went out to were
were pretty packed. And then uh and then here in
l A. We were out to dinner last night. Indoor
dining is back. So it's good. It's good. It feels
(42:15):
like things are finally starting to get back to normal.
And obviously we all wanted everybody to be safe, but
at the same time, we have to allow people to
work and and and live their lives a little bit.
And so I'm happy to see things back to normal.
And you're ready to go back to games outside of
a uh a bone of contention with you, You'll go
back to any game, you know, if you basketball baseball
(42:36):
doesn't make a difference to you. Doesn't make a difference
to me. I would love to get to a couple
of Dodgers games. The problem is everybody's works during the week,
and you and I work on Saturday night, so that
will make it a little bit tough. But Dodger games
are the best. I I really, I'm telling you the truth.
Um Dodger dogs. Going out there, the scenery, it never
gets too hot because you're up there in the mountains,
so it gets gets a little chilly. It's it's just
(42:58):
a fantastic see a long Woldrigey failed. If you've never
been the Reguley Um, that's a fun place also, but
that's a little rundown, dirty and smelly though. By the way,
you want to talk about the world getting back to
normal and how different things are. I was flipping channels
here during the break. We have Modern Day versus St.
John Bosco high school football, and this is a live game.
(43:21):
These are two of the top programs in the country.
This would be like Clemson Alabama of high school football,
but they're playing I believe live tonight as best I
can tell. That's where DJ from Clemson went to high school.
Bryce Young, who played well in Alabama spring game today.
So it just shows you how how much the world
has changed in the last year. Where the state of
California is playing high school football here in the spring.
(43:43):
Obviously some fall sports got moved to the spring as well.
Crazy world, but it just proves your point. It was crazy,
but things are finally starting to get back to normal.
Paul says, Stinking Genius relaxed. The Dodgers will not win
the World Series this year. They'll run out of gas.
It's not eighty games, it's one sixty two. Watch out
for my angels. Dodgers are on paces to go one
forty and twenty two if they keep this up. They
(44:06):
they're really dominant. I mean not pitching staff, they can
I think they can make a run and having the
most wins in the season, what is it, one sixteen
I think with Seattle's Seattle yeah, so um yeah, I
think I think they could definitely make a run by
the way since run baseball. Pete Rose Um, what did
what do you think he was on with a firm
(44:27):
in and uh and um? Who else was at the
heartman today on the network? Really? Yeah, I didn't know that?
What did he did you hear that? What did he have?
To say, do you want me to set up the
story first, and say, yeah, go ahead, go ahead. So
the story was and we talked about on the odd
couple sothing very familiar with it. But there he is
now officially in the pick selling business. So he signed
(44:48):
up for a company and for eighty nine dollars a month,
you can sign up and get Pete Roses baseball bets. Now,
he claims he's not actually betting the games. He just
wants to share his advice in and make some money
off of it. He said he has to earn a
living and so personally, I have no problem with it,
but I'm curious to hear what he had to say
about the situation. Well, he was really talking about him
(45:08):
giving Joe the Maggio a shower. I thought that was
I thought that in Vietnam, right exactly. It was. It
was a fantastic story. I really didn't hear much of
the comment or if they, you know, really brought up
the you know what he's charging for the baseball I
know that that's probably why they had him on, but
he you know, he knows Firman so much, so they
got off off track a little bit. Uh. My thing
(45:31):
is this when gambling is so prevalent now and we're
we have gambling just about every state. I don't know
what the the tally is, but it seems like it's
in every state now and the NFL is all in.
Remember wasn't it like about five six years ago that
Tony Romo was in trouble because of fantasy football because
it was gambling. So you know now that gambling is
(45:51):
so prevalent and what's going on in sports. Enough of
what you've done. The Pete reverse it move on led
him into the Hall of Fame. Aime. You know, I
hate debating this, but he is, you know, one of
the best players we've ever seen. It's a shame because
now that we allow gambling in the sports, he really
has done nothing wrong. While I was on air on
(46:13):
The Odd Couple last night, I googled bet official betting
partner of Major League Baseball. Three different companies came up.
The MLB now, according to Google, has three different official
sports books as their betting partners in MLB. I'm not
positive on the Major League Baseball stadiums, but there are
(46:34):
many arenas, including the one where the Devil's play, where
you can now there's a sports book in the arena,
you can go in and bet during the game. I
am with you. The world has changed. The time has changed.
I understand that back then there were signs in the
in the ballpark. Rob Parker was a Hall of Fame
voter brought this up to me yesterday. When he played,
there were and when he managed, there were signs that
(46:56):
said you cannot bet on the game of baseball. I
under dan that. But the world has changed. Times are changing.
He is definitively one of the best players who ever
played the game. He belongs in the Hall of fam
Let me ask you this. I'm gonna ask the people
on Twitter who's listening to the show. And I know
this is not an exact science, but how many of
our listeners, how many listeners that listen to sports talk
radio actually gamble? And let us know, Aaron Underscore Tours,
(47:19):
I'm in stinking genius one. How many of you out
there gamble on football? Uh? Well, if you gamble on football,
you're you're obviously, um you know you're not gonna gamble
on baseball or basketball, not football. But how many of
you bet on games? Um? I bet it's more than
listen to the Sports Talk Radio Torres. Yeah, and and
even if it's well, think things have changed, I mean
(47:42):
and listen, and it's it's funny right because there's a
lot of this stuff with marijuana right now. Is that
that players are still getting suspended for marijuana and states
where it's legal to possess marijuana. And so I'm not
saying it's right or wrong. I'm just saying the world
has changed, conversations have changed, narratives have changed, and and
sports gambling is very prevalent now. As you said, I
(48:03):
think in the next probably four or five years, all
fifty states are probably or somewhere probably pretty close are
going to have legalized sports gambling. And so the idea
that Major League Baseball can have all these official gambling sponsors,
we can have sports books in the stadium, You're gonna
we have people literally at baseball games betting on baseball games,
either at the stadium, whatever. And the idea that we're
(48:25):
still holding pete rose to a standard from the nineties seventies,
you know, time change. I'm not saying that that you
don't have a bookie. Taures used not to either have
a bookie back in the day, and then when I
went from a bookie to one of those offshore accounts. Um,
and you didn't know if you're gonna get paid. You
didn't get paid. You have to wait to a certain amount.
Now it's just you know, like you said, you can
(48:46):
go to the stadium where the arena and make bets
right there from your seat. For grying out loud, you
do it right there on your app if you want
to on your phone. Absolutely, And and this is why
it's really interesting. I'm glad. I'm not glad. It's just
interesting that you agree with me, because I I get
the argument that when when he played, the rules were
very crystal clear. But you know, what are we talking.
(49:06):
I mean the Baseball Hall of Fame at the end
of the day, and I know you've probably done this
rant for thirty plus years now. It's a museum. It's
a museum to honor the history of baseball. You cannot
tell the history of baseball without Pete Rose. And I
know it's cliche to say, but it goes without saying.
You take every uh level of degeneracy from alcoholism to
(49:28):
ty Cobb was a racist to this guy was an
alcoholic too, Like you know, spousal abuse, you go on
and on down the list. At some point it's not
about the morality of this anymore, because if it was
about the morality, there wouldn't be very many guys in
that Baseball Hall of Fame at all if you really
went down the list. And so to me, I'm not
saying what Pete Rose did was perfect, especially in that moment,
(49:50):
but it's time to just give up the holier than
now stuff. Again. The Hall of Fame is essentially a
baseball museum. Stop holding yourself to to this impossible standard.
Let the guy in uh. A couple of on Twitter
love Pete Rose gamble every day. In fact, I bought
Physics weekend package and crushed it a little love from Vermont,
how about that in my neck of the woods there,
(50:12):
So we um it just it just became legal. Really,
it just became legal. So I'm Jeff talking within like
the last two to three weeks of maybe two weeks. Yeah,
So you know, again, I don't know what that means,
how fast it's gonna get implemented. I thought when they
said gambling was gonna be legal, I'd be able to
(50:34):
walk into like my local sports bar and you know,
walk up to you know, like one of those video
poker machines or something like that and start betting off
something like that. That's what I thought was gonna happen.
I didn't even imagine just you're gonna do it over
the phone or something like that. Absolutely no, And I
remember even talking you mentioned Tod Firm it, well, you
mentioned Andy Firm him, but I was thinking Tod Fir
him when he said it. But I remember talking to
(50:55):
Tod Firm and he was talking about even three or
four years ago. The prevalence of the apps, and obviously
Bernie can attest to this an Hour number three. But
it's so easy. I mean, like I said, I was
just in Vegas this week. I do not download the
apps because well I like going up to the window
and making a place in a bet that way. But
it is very easy. And again it's just I don't
I don't want to keep repeating myself. But times have changed,
(51:17):
and the idea that one first of all the leagues
can make money off of sports gambling, but Pete Rose can't,
it just feels absurd to me. Yeah I did. He
turned eighty today, so I you know, again, when you
get up there in age, I certainly would like to
get that overturned. But it was good to hear Pete Rose.
You don't get to hear him on the radio all
that much, so it was good to hear him on
with the guys today. You want to come at erin
Underscore Tour as I'm instinking genius one. Um. Yeah, things
(51:40):
have certainly changed in the last twenty years with gambling
in marijuana, no doubt about that. I promised to get
you some of the NFL over unders for the UH
and this is a big thing when it comes to
the NFL is when the over unders are put out there.
This is almost as big, or maybe bigger than like
Week one of the opening line tore People love season
(52:02):
win totals, the Chiefs or the on top obviously, I
remember there's seventeen games this year, Torres, so the Chiefs
have twelve um, meaning they have to go thirteen and
four for them to win that bet. I don't think
I like that off the top, I don't think the
Chiefs are a thirteen win team. Um, even with the
(52:25):
extra game. Well, it's really funny, right because we talked
about Super Bowl hangover with every other team and will
the Chiefs have a Super Bowl hangover. I don't know
they feel immune to it. They've made three straight conference
championship games, played in two straight Super Bowls. I will
say they went fourteen two this year. I mean, thirteen
and four does not sounding conceivable. I would probably bet
(52:47):
the over on that one. Believe it or not, I
don't know that. It's probably my favorite bet on the board.
And I'm not gonna go through everyone, but the Buccaneers
are eleven and a half. I would twelve and five
seems very reasonable for Tampa, especially with you know, with
the lack of practice. Is getting ready to last year,
they're ready to jell. I think even more this year.
I think going over on the oven and a half
for Tampa is a good pick there. I liked the
(53:08):
over very much, and I'll tell you a couple of
reasons why. First of all, Drew brees out in New Orleans,
right that's one, uh Two. The Carolina Panthers they're a mess.
Atlanta they're a mess. That should be four wins right there,
three and one at worst. And don't forget this, Arnie,
the Saints won the division. The Bucks are not playing
a first place schedule next year. Usually when teams make
(53:29):
big leaps up in a season like the Bucks did, uh,
you end up having to play a much tougher schedule
the next year. Now, obviously the schedule will be tough
this coming year. But I'm you know, I don't know,
I don't know. I just I don't feel like the
schedule is going to be that unbearable thing for it
good point. Someone must have told that in your ear
or something like that did how it's called prep work,
(53:50):
it's called homework. Cowboys nine and a half. Remember that
was my team last year, and I jumped off the
bandwagon right after the first week. Maybe I was a
year too early. Doc's gotta stay healthy, um, and they're
pretty much, you know, ready to roll like they were
last year. I think I was a year too early
on the Cowboys. I liked the over nine enough they
means ten and seven that that's very doable in that division.
(54:13):
They were two and three when Dad got hurt this year,
So no, I mean, I mean they only one in
total the entire season. They only won six games, but
they were two of them came in the first four
weeks of the season, and so I only bring it
up to say, you get a full year of a
healthy deck. And again, what was the over under nine?
(54:34):
You said four to nine and a half. So that's
ten and seven. I mean, do you think they can't
They can lose seven times and you still win that bet.
I like that bet. You know what surprised me was
the Patriots and the Dovins both having the same amount
of win totals at nine. I thought the Dovins were
a better team than the Patriots. They're better team last year.
I'm not buying the Patriots are are going uh you know,
(54:55):
nine and eight or are better than that. I don't
think they're winning ten games. I kind of like the
Dolphins to go ten and seven are better, right, I
liked the over in them, but I'm surprised the Patriots
and Dolphins have these same win total there. Torres Vegas
doesn't trust too anymore than Arnie Spaniard doesn't. Sounds like
that's that's for damn sure. I'll tell you what. We'll
come back. Let's talk to Jason Hershorn have a lot
(55:16):
of NFL to get to maybe corrupt some of this
uh draft too, So we'll talk to him. We'll see
that number three picks gonna be and we still tell
us who he thinks gonna be that number three pick.
All that coming up next right here on Fox Sports
A Radio. Alright, good evening everyone here in Torres, Arnie
Spaniel right here on Fox Sports or Radio. Let's go
right to our guest. He's award winning NFL and college
(55:38):
football writer for SB Nation, Jason Herschorn. Jason, right off
the bat, you tell me who that number three pick
is gonna because my head is spinning. Now is it
gonna be just the Field? Is it gonna be Mack Jones?
I I have no idea anymore. I used to I
I said that there was no way San Francisco traded
up to get back Jones. Then everybody told me I
was wrong. It looks like it was gonna be back Jones.
(55:59):
And now it seems like it's gonna be justin Fields.
I have no idea. What the hell is going to happen. Well,
let's let's start out here. We have seen weirder quarterback
selections than Mac Jones at number three. That's not an
endorsement of that pick, but it would be far from
the strangest thing we've seen at the top of an
NFL draft. Now, when it comes down to San Francisco
(56:22):
and specifically to Kyle Shanahan. A lot of people have
made the connection between mac jones skill set and that
of Kirk Cousins, obviously a quarterback with which he had
a connection in Washington at quarterback that under slightly different
circumstances actually could have come to San Francisco after he
left Washington in two thousands, sevento eighteen, whichever season it was.
(56:43):
Now it's about that mac Jones wouldn't be able to
operate in Kyle Shannon's offense. But we've seen Kyle Shanahan
over the year's work with a number of different kinds
of quarterbacks, So it's not a limitation of Shanahan or
his offense that he has to have a particular kind
of kid passed her. This is not the case. Robert
Griffin the third had his best season with Kyle Shanahan
(57:05):
running a lot of Baylor concepts sort of amalgamated with
his base offense like, so he's definitely able to adjust
those kind of concepts to the talent that he has.
And if you're looking at the talent that we expect
to be available at three, we we know Trevor Lawrence
is going first, We're all pretty confident that Zack Wilson
is going to go second. And looking at the remaining
top quarterbacks, you know, justin Fields certainly seems to be
(57:28):
the most athletic. Trade Lance does not seem to be
that far behind him, and might even have a higher upside.
Both of those quarterbacks seem to make a lot more
sense for Kyle Shanahan in the long run. You also
consider that they don't look like they're going to trade
Jimmy Garoppolo at least before the season. Then being able
to take that quarterback give him a little bit of
time before he has to go on the field. Not
(57:50):
exactly like the Pat Mahomes Kansas City Chiefs model, but
not too far from it. That seems like it's a
more maybe not probable scenario, but a more understandable to
area then taking Mac Jones at the thread. So Jason,
let me even backtrack from three to two. So Arnie
and I are on this shift every Saturday night, including
of course during college football season. We watched a lot
(58:12):
of b y U games because the Pack twelve didn't
start until about the end of December, basically Christmas day
um and we enjoyed Zack Wilson. But I don't want
to speak for Arnie, but there was never a moment
in time where I said, well, that guy is definitively
the number two pick in the draft. So give me
the hard sell on why Zack Wilson is so clearly
(58:33):
better that in than Justin Fields, clearly better than Mac Jones,
that it's not even up for debate that anybody else
is going to be selected at number two. Well, I
would not argue that he is clearly the number two quarterback.
I think you can make an argument that he is
the most sensible quarterback for the offensive that Jets are
(58:54):
going to run. Remember they brought Robert Sala from the
forty niners and with him Mike l Floor, who is
now the offensive coordinator of the Jets. They're going to
run a version of that Kyle Shannon offense, the one
that really requires their quarterbacks to boot out beyond the
move on a regular basis and be able to throw
well while running. These are all things that we saw
(59:15):
Zach Wilson do extremely well at the y U this
past season. And if you look at the b y
U offense, is it is different in a lot of
important ways from what anyone's running in the NFL right now.
But it is a wide zone based run game with
a lot of deep shots off play action. Those are
two features that you see a lot in that forty
Niners offense and a lot of the other offenses that
(59:36):
are based on those concepts. The Jets again, are going
to be one of those teams. So if you're looking
at it from that perspective that you want a quarterback
that fits the thing that you want to do in
New York, Zach Wilson is going to be the most
logical candidate, at least is arguably the most logical candidate
for that selection. Jason, the big questions I love up
here in the Northeast. Uh, well, we carry the Patriots, obviously,
(59:58):
we're on and Boston on this sportsb The Patriots, what
the heck are they going to do? Because I thought
they were gonna get Jimmy Ge. A matter of fact,
I can't see how San Francisco is gonna be able
to keep Jimmy G and not trade them. Um. The
only problem is, does you know the Patriots want Jimmy G?
Do they want to go up to number ten? With
the Cowboys. Can they go up to number four and
(01:00:19):
and take Atlanta's pick? What do you think is gonna
happen with the Patriots right now? Your guess is as
good as mine. Other than to say, other than to say,
I do think that the Patriots are not done adding
quarterback town. There was a notion after they brought back
Cam Newton that at least for one, that they were done.
Like they might bring in a backup some at some
(01:00:41):
point of vetteran backup that is, but that they were
really not going to explore the quarterback market in a
more meaningful way until the following off season. That's possible,
but I don't see them stopping at Cam Newton. They're
going to be better at least as long as cam
Eton's healthy, because they have more time to work with them.
Certainly a more traditional off season we expect to work
with that entire offense. But Cam Newton for several several
(01:01:04):
years now has dealt with injuries that have really short
circuited the offenses in which he's played. So bring someone
else on. It could be a rookie, it could be
a veteran that we haven't really talked about. It might
not be Jimmy g it could be somebody else. But
I do not believe that they are done exploring quarterbacks
this offseason, because remember it was pretty late in the
game last off season when they brought Cam Newton on board.
(01:01:26):
So it's not just a timing thing. They're willing to
bring in someone who is a real competitor for that
starting job as late as July, maybe even into August,
have becomes down to it. I just don't think that
they're done yet. Jason, let me ask you a question
about the Cincinnati Bengals. It feels like we have so
much focus on the quarterbacks and who's going where and
all that stuff. The Bengals are interesting to me though.
(01:01:48):
Joe Burrow looked awesome early on, and then of course
he gets hurt behind maybe the worst offensive line in
the NFL last year. This year, do they go with
the offensive tackle, a guy like Penny Sewell. Do they
go with maybe his former you know, running made at
l s u Jamaar Chase, a wide receiver. Do you
think they have more interest in helping Joe Burrow? H
(01:02:09):
Let me put it this way, do you think they
have more interest in protecting Joe Burrow? Or helping Joe
Burrow with weapons around. I think they really do want
to improve that offensive line. Now, they don't have to
necessarily do that with the topic where they're kicking very
early in the second round. It is a very good
draft for offensive lineman, especially tackles, so they could go
(01:02:30):
a different direction at the number five pick and still
pick up a starting offensive lineman with their next election.
That said, though, it would be a little strange from
my perspective if they spent that pick on Jamaar Chase.
Is not that Jamar Chase is in a good receiver.
He's probably the best pure white out in this draft,
but we've seen time and time again that you can
(01:02:50):
find high quality wide receivers much later into the draft.
Second day, for sure, they'll be able to get somebody there,
even if the youth draft a pass catcher in the
first round. There's just that much depth of the position,
and that's just a trend that we've seen year in
year out for the past at least half decade. And
the other part of this is, while you know you
can also get quality offensive lineman, it is really hard
(01:03:13):
to find a true franchise left tackle. And they may
have a chance of that in Pine sul the the
Oregon left tackle who sat out this past season but
was viewed as the consensus top guy going into the year.
They could also look at Rashaun Slater, the offensive lineman
from Northwestern who can play left tackle. He also could
play yard, might have a little more versatility in that regard.
I think that makes more sense. But they're going to
(01:03:34):
go a pass catcher with that number five pick, they
really should look at Kyle Pits because while he's a
tight end and we don't often see tight ends go
that early, that's kind of misleading. He is so much
more just talented than your typical pass catcher. He's someone
who walks into that position the same way Julio Jones
did about a decade ago a wide receiver. He just
(01:03:57):
walks onto the field as the most talented pass catcher
with almost no exception. And if you have a chance
of a player like that, I do think it's worth considering.
Whereas Jamaar Chase could end up being an all Pro
wide receiver, but you can find those guys later. You
can't find a Kyle Pits like pass catcher in any
given draft. It maybe another ten years before we see
someone like that come out of college again. Wow, Chase,
(01:04:18):
all right, last thing before we let you go, keep
your eye on which player, the one player that may
shoot up the first round may drop down like an
Aaron Rodgers type. I gotta feeling I'm keeping my eye
and those Alabama wide receivers. Why do I get the
gut field and somebody's dropping out of the top ten
like Davante Smith. I don't know why, maybe because of
his size, But who should we keep an eye on?
What's gonna happen? Well, I guess the obvious answer is
(01:04:42):
watch what happens with justin fields. He could go number
three is as we discussed earlier. He also could fall
much further. I think there's really the widest range of
possibilities within. But I'm happy you brought up the Alabama
wide receiver. Now, Davante Smith very well could go a
little later than we expect, being like you know, a
top you know, six seven pick. I don't think he's
(01:05:03):
gonna drop that much further because while he is an anomaly,
a lot of you know metrics that teams do care
about it certainly very low in weights, and we don't
know have we don't have an official time on him
because obviously there wasn't a combine this year and he
didn't run the forty and some of those other drills
that is pro day. But it was expected that he'd
be a guy who was, you know, pretty quick, but
not necessarily a burner. I think a team and several
(01:05:24):
teams really are gonna be interested in drafting him relatively early.
The guy I'm more curious about is Jalen Wabble. He's
a little older than you typically get with the receiver
with his amount of experience. Not that he's old, but
it's another thing that teams will sometimes being a prospect for.
And while he does have tremendous speed, he's someone who
struggled in traffic in a way that you don't see
(01:05:45):
a lot of receivers do, even smaller ones like him.
So a lot of teams have looked in the last
couple of years to find their version of Tyree Hilty
obviously saw it this past year with her Rubs, another
Alabama wide receiver. But Jalen Waddle, while extremely fast, is
looks like a different kind of player, someone you want
to use in a more like gadget fashion than someone
like Tyree Till, but a team may still want to
(01:06:07):
get him, and it's sort of that balance, like do
you see him being that sort of true desert receiver
that changes the geometry of the defense, or is someone
that you view as a very high end secondary kype weapon.
Some of you could take in the first round, but
you wouldn't take in the top fifth team. That's not
curious to watch because he's someone who also has a
wide range of possibility in terms of where he will go.
(01:06:27):
Less than two weeks before the draft, Jason Hershor and
you could tweet him at b Y underscored jb H.
Jason always a pleasure. Will definitely do it again. We're
not much closer, al right, Take care, guys, take care
of Jason Hershor, and we'll love talking to them. Will
comment on a few of those things he had to say,
but first let's see what's trending. Another check in with
the SEGA. What's going on? When my Dodgers winning the
(01:06:48):
Sea that's why they're winning. Yes, they're not your Dodgers.
Dodgers have won eight in a row. It's been an
incredible series and it was much hyped going into it,
and person after person is saying, my goodness, this is
actually exceeding the hype. Last night a classic twelve inning
Dodger victory. It went past midnight Pacific time. Tonight, superb
pictures dual to nothing. L A wins at San Diego
(01:07:10):
as outfielder Mookie Beats makes a diving catch to end
the game with padre runners on second and third. Clayton
Kershaw beat you Darvish. Houston ended the six game losing
street exact granky through eight scoreless innings and a one
nothing win at Seattle, but the Minnesota at Angels game
was postponed tonight's and tomorrow's game to allow for more
COVID testing in the Twins organization. Kansas City split a
(01:07:32):
double header from Toronto, winning the nightcap three two on
a solo homer by Salvador Perez in the bottom of
the seventh. Double headers have to seven inning games these days.
The Mets split a double header at Colorado. They took
the opener for three is Jacob Degram actually got a
victory six innings, no earned runs allowed, fourteen strikeouts for
de Grom, including nine straight batters at one point. His
(01:07:54):
EIRA in the early season is zero point four five.
The Mets had to score two runs top of the
seventh to win the seven inning game, though Miami came
back for a ten inning win over the Giants seven six.
Cincinnati came back for a ten inning win over Cleveland
three to two. Red Sox one Yankees lost. In the
NBA feature matchup, Boston won a sixth straight game, beating
Golden State in the close one one, one fourteen. Jayson
(01:08:17):
Tatum forty four points. Steph Curry had forty seven in
the loss, and from three point range he was eleven
of nineteen. That means for Curry that's three times just
in the past week he's had a game making ten
three pointers or more. In NBA history, nobody's had three
or more such games than an entire season. He learned
(01:08:38):
from Steve Kerr, who I was better than in high school.
Of course he's going to do that. Yeah, that's really
a connect. The dots that were with six degrees of
separation might take more than six. Memphis then one at Milwaukee,
one one fifteen, and San Antonio one at Phoenix easily
one eleven to eighty five home victories for Chicago, Washington
(01:09:01):
and the Lakers, who won today against Utah in overtime.
You guys were talking NFL Draft, It starts in less
than two weeks April nine. NFL offseason programs begin Monday eighteen.
Teams have players who will decline to participate in person.
Individuals with contract bonuses might go. The Union wants everything
prior to training camp to be virtual. Nascars on Fox
(01:09:23):
TV tomorrow from Richmond, three pm Eastern Time. Martin Truex
Junior last Sunday was the first repeat winner in the
Cup Series this season, snapping a streak of seven different
winners to start the year. And Stewart sink leads by
five strokes at hilton Head, South Carolina over Colin Morricawa.
Dustin Johnson's down to a tie for thirty six. Stewart
sink Age forty seven, shot sixty three at each of
(01:09:43):
the first two rounds. Having a good weekend. Back to you,
all right, thanks a lot. Aaron Torres ares fan your
writer on Fox Sports Radio. By the way, can I
get in trouble if I keep saying I beat Steve
Colonel one on one and I never did, because at
this point, um, I've said it so many times I
don't even remember if I did, but I'm sure he did,
I would have beaten him something like twelve or something
(01:10:04):
like that, you know right around. Now Here's why I
don't think you'll get in trouble because there's only two
people that can confirm that story is a d percent false.
And I don't think Steve Kerr one knows who you are,
let alone cares nearly enough to clarify the story. He
also did just confirm on radio that that story isn't true.
(01:10:25):
By the way, speaking to these NFL draft quarterbacks, I'm
just I got on some Justin Field special on the
TV right now. It's so easy for he was at
Georgia for a year. How about George The whole history
of college football is maybe different. If they didn't bench
Justin Fields to play Jake from he never goes to
Ohio State, they may have won a national championship. I now,
(01:10:46):
we heard Jason talking, well, we heard Jason talking about
which player may drop or move up. UM. I am
intrigued to what the Alabama wide receivers are going to do. UM,
But I have seen some latest mock drafts. I don't know.
If Justin Fields doesn't go number three, there's a chance
he could fall to maybe like number eight or number
(01:11:07):
ten and somebody like the Patriots could trade up and
snag him. I'm not sure, but man, there's a lot
of intriguing questions. Um. You know, obviously, what San Francisco
is gonna do a number three and more important is
Atlanta going to trade dot number four pick or are
they going to take a quarterback for the future after
Matt Ryan, who has a couple of years left on
(01:11:29):
his contract. So what do you do for your Atlanta
when you have the number four pick. I'll get back
to Atlanta in a second. But really quick, what you
said about justin fields falling one thing I want to
say about that, It's not always the worst thing. I mean,
think about it. Yeah, we we we we we. We
talked so much about how absurd it was that Mitch
Drobiski went at number two overall. But you know, put
(01:11:51):
aside what is going on off the field. Landing in
Houston for Deshaun Watson was a great thing. They were
a team that that was built ready for the playoffs.
They needed a quarterback. It was great. I don't know
if Patrick Mahomes really quote unquote fell, but to go
whatever it was eleven the Chiefs was great for him,
great for Aaron Rodgers. So this idea that falling is
(01:12:11):
the worst possible thing, I just don't buy it. Now.
With that said, with the Falcons, I don't think they
end up with that pick. I really don't. They don't
seem that interested in taking a quarterback. There are teams
that need a quarterback. There are teams that have other needs.
I I and I think they have so many needs
outside of the quarterback, and so many teams need the
(01:12:33):
quarterback that they can get real value for that. So
I don't know if I'd be surprised if they actually
make that selection at number four, But I don't think
it's gonna happen. Who are teams trading up to get
there at number four? Um? Is it the mac jones
justin Field's loser, or is the trade lands that they're
trading up to number four? Because those are your only
two options right now at number four. If you're gonna
(01:12:55):
go ahead and trade up, well, it's a great point.
And that's why it's one of those where uh and
need know if you hear anyone that's worked in the NFL,
like an Eric man j here whoever's on our air waves.
This is what teams do. They say, Hey, if our
guys available with your pick, what would you want? Dada
da da, this and that, and so I'm with you.
I suspect that it would have to be for one
(01:13:15):
of those two guys. I still don't really understand the
trade lance thing, Like, I get it if you want
to use a mid round pick on him because you
believe his upside is that high. But a top five pick,
number three, with the four, with the forty nine, number four,
with whoever, whether it's Atlanta or another team trading up,
it just feels too high to me. So you're right,
it would probably have to be a team that is
(01:13:36):
in love with either Justin Fields or mac Jones, and
whoever doesn't go at number three would get selected in
that spot. By the way, are we gonna have chaos
in the first round? Are we gonna have chaos do
those first ten picks? Or or we could have one
trade two trades? Are we just gonna be talking about
all the trades that are gonna happen, and then when
draft comes around, nobody gets traded and the top ten
pretty much goes into order. I don't know I I
(01:13:56):
I think there's so much, so many questions that ain't
in order ordinarily, because we don't know what the hell
is gonna happen. I don't think there is any ordinary
in this draft. And I do think there'll be maybe
one at least maybe one, maybe two trades in the
top ten when it's all said done. So I think
there's definitely gonna be some trades, and I'll tell you
a few reasons why. One is that one of these
(01:14:19):
quarterbacks is gonna end up dropping in theory, maybe even
two past number four, or you know, two of them
are obviously gonna be past number three, and then somebody's
gonna want to trade up to get them at one point,
whether it's at four, whether it's at this spot, whether
it's at at that spot, whatever. But I would also say, Arnie,
I think that because of the weird nature of college football,
(01:14:39):
where some of these elite players Michael Parsons, who I
saw LaVar Arianton say thinks is the best defensive player
in college football. He didn't play at all this year.
Then he got guys that played four or five six games.
You have guys that played a full twelve thirteen game
season and so because of it, I think different teams
are just going to different value different guys so much
because sample size is so great with all of these
(01:15:03):
different players, how much they played, all that different stuff.
Even you mentioned the Alabama wide receivers. I mean Jaal
Watt only played three or four games this year because
of injuries. So I bring it up because there is
probably a team that really covets Michael Parsons and if
he falls, then they're gonna climb up the draft boards
to get them. Maybe it's Ron Dale More. I'm not
in the top ten, but Ron Dale Moore from Purdue
(01:15:24):
who barely played, Rashad Bateman from Minnesota who barely played,
Greg Russo from Miami who didn't play at all this
year opted out of the season. There are going to
be those guys that that are dropping because they either
didn't play or they played a lot and something happened
that people don't like. And I that's why I suspect
there are gonna be a lot of trades you want
to get in Aaron underscore tours. I've been stinking genius
(01:15:46):
one does Sager coming up next? He'll tell you. I'll
tell you Padres Dodgers, little controversy happening in that one,
so we'll get to that coming up next right here
on Fox Sports or Radio. All right, good evening, everyone,
and Aaron Torres Arni Spanior right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Busy night tonight. Controversy in the Dodger game. Jake Paul
(01:16:08):
wins his big boxing match in the first round. Let's
check into the sea. What's going on? Quick trivia quiz
for your buddies is who were the two best teams
in the National League standings last year? The answer would
be the Dodgers and the Padres, but of course only
one can win the division, so they played each other,
not in the NLCS, but in a in a divisional series.
(01:16:29):
These two teams are so talented. People were so looking
forward to this weekend series where the Dodgers first visited
to San Diego for these three games. Because the Padres
have added you Darvish, who was spectacular tonight even though
he took the loss to nothing. And they've added Blake Snell,
who dominated the Dodgers in the World Series last year
for Tampa Bay. Tomorrow it's Snell against Trevor Bauer, who
(01:16:51):
l A added in the off season. Clayton Kershaw got
the win for the Dodgers tonight. They've won eight in
a row. This was the play with two outs in
the bottom of the nine. Charlie Steiner with the call
on our l A Flagship A and five seventy l
A Sports Dodgers audioce we're on a fly ball in
the center field, diving catch made by Bets and the
Dodgers win it. Let spectacular play five Mookie Bets. If
(01:17:16):
he doesn't get it, it's a tie game. At least
there were Padre runners at second and third, and that's
how it ended. The stat cast people said Bets covered
about fifty feet in three seconds and with the dive
just got the ball before it hit the grass. It
was a ten percent catch. Probability doesn't say that's like
Arenie running for the fridge, but catch. But yeah. With
(01:17:40):
Fernandal Tatise was what was going on there with him
and Kershaw, there was Actually it was with pro Far
was batting because catcher's interference was called and Kershaw thought
he had strike three and the Dodger defense was walking
off the mound, and the umpires called everybody back and
awarded the batter first base because on his swing of
strike three, he can acted with the catcher's glove. Kershaw
(01:18:02):
started yelling at the batter standing on first base about
what a not a major league swing that was and
that you could have hurt my catcher. That a replace
showed that the ball was pretty much in this catcher's glove.
When the batter kind of swiped down with the bat
on top of the catcher's glove and got the call,
there was emotions running high all weekend, of course, and
keep in mind the context, not only the talent, and
(01:18:24):
San Diego knows it has its best team in decades.
They finally have a chance to win a pennant and
make some noise and beat the hated Dodgers. City of
San Diego just hates the city of Los Angeles. So
you throw this into it, and the fact that the
three games are in San Diego, boy and base baseball
people have been saying they're looking forward to this series
and it has topped all expectations. Giants, Dodgers, Reds, the
(01:18:49):
old p Rose days. From San Diego's perspective, it's always
been Dodgers Podres, but now the Padres finally are I
I probably shouldn't use the word equal, but they're the
Dodgers equal, if you know what I mean. They can
play as they did in the playoffs last year, close
games and they could come out on top. Well set tomorrow,
but wow, it's been really incredible. Justin Turner had a
(01:19:10):
solo homer in the ninth Great Baseball Story today with
a guy for Atlanta being returned to the major leagues
for the first time in over a decade. Sean Kasmar Jr.
At age thirty six, was called up not from the
miners because miners haven't started yet, but from the alternate
training site. So he pinched hit in the fifth, grounded
into a double play, but at least he made it
(01:19:31):
to the show, where he hadn't been since September of
two thousand and eight, when he was with San Diego,
twelve and a half years without being in the majors.
That's how could you not get a cup of coffee
in twelve years? And he played for like three or
four different yeah, Matt's, Padres, Mariners, Braves, of course, and
there were no minor leagues last year, so during the
(01:19:52):
COVID shortened major league season he wasn't a part of that.
He was at home, living on unemployment insurance. Apparently this
is the biggest gap between your big league appearances since
the nineteen thirties and forties when a guy went thirteen
years before making it back. But really, really incredible and finally,
did you guys see the New York Post story today
that as Aaron Rodgers has been guest hosting Jeopardy for
(01:20:15):
a couple of weeks this summer, Joe Buck will be
guest hosting. The permanent hosting role is due to be
filled by the start of next season, according to Ken Jennings,
the former Champion contestant who has also been a guest
host along with Katie Kuric and Doctor Oz and so forth.
But I guess they're going to finish out this season
(01:20:35):
with guest hosts and that will include Joe Buck. And
we'll see who gets it permanently. But I guess Joe
Buck is on the list. I know it's not Jeopardy,
but I almost filled in for Mari Povich once on
talk show or a game on the on the TV
show What You Are Not the Father? No, I'm serious,
and I would have been perfect. That came down between
(01:20:55):
me and his producer. I'm like oh please let it
be me, please, because you know I would been great
at that to say yeah, oh yeah, but you're not.
She played you. Oh my, all right, thanks a lot
to say. Go two hours or in the books, the
Power Hour coming up next. You want to get in
real simple eron underscore, Torres, I'm its thinking genius one.
(01:21:18):
You are not the father. Uh so get on in
Power Hour next up Fox Sports Radio. Ah, good evening everyone,
Aaron Torres, any span your the Power Hour of the show,

It's amazing because you see discovers accepted at nine of

Saturday night, Aaron, I, I'm ready for the draft. I'm
almost drafted out. Plank every Sunday. Um, it's like, give
(01:22:01):
me three hours of draft. I could do this all day.
He does, you know, he does draft shows and stuff
like that. I'm almost I'm almost all drafted out. With
all the rumors going on out there, you know, yeah,
I see. I love it. I do, And I think
it's because there's to me, the stories are legitimate this
year at least, Like some years, we try to manufacture
(01:22:21):
stuff just to just have something to talk about in
the lead up to the draft, Like like this year,
maybe it is a totally manufactured story at number three,
maybe it ends up being justin fields. It was justin
fields all along. But I think even like something like
I asked Jason Herschawan in the last hour, why are
we so convinced that Zack Wilson is the second best
quarterback in this draft? Uh, even something like that, I
(01:22:43):
don't know that that story hasn't even gotten any buzz.
So to me, yes, the first two picks feel a
little bit obvious, But then after that, the quarterbacks, the
wide receivers, what we talked about, what is what does
Cincinnati do it their pick? What what is the troit?
Do They have Jared Goff so they're probably not gonna
take a quarterback. I don't know, man, I'm enjoying it,
(01:23:04):
I really And let me ask you this expectations involved here,
who's more likely to be a bust out of the
first five quarterbacks? Remember now, expectations for Trevor Lawrence through
the roof very uh, not nearly as much for somebody
like Trey Lands. Um, so you tell me who's more
likely to be a big bust between Trevor Lawrence, Zack Wilson,
(01:23:25):
Trey Lands, just the fields or mac Jones. I mean
the obviously answers Trail Lands. I don't I don't even
know how that. But but expectations on Trey Lands, though
not nearly is is Trevor Lawrence. I think Trevor Lawrence,
if he has like a three and fourteen years, there's
gonna be a lot of he's a boss, he's horrible,
(01:23:46):
he's just not and all this stuff there we'll be
able to tell you. I think it's the combination of
Trevor Lawrence being the generational quarterback that we decided. What
it's so fascinating, right because Kyler Murray six months before
the draft, we thought he was playing baseball. Joe Burrow
six months before the draft, we worked on all those saturdays, aren'ty.
(01:24:07):
It wasn't really until November when they beat Alabama that
we were like, Okay, this is the guy, this is
the team LSU Trevor Lawrence has been the guy since
his freshman year and really dating back to high school.
And so I only bring it up because I do
think the combination of Urban Meyer and Trevor Lawrence, it
feels like there's a lot more expectations than the typical
(01:24:29):
number one overall pick expectations. With Tua, we're through the roof, right,
he was gonna come in the middle of the year
and take the Dolphins all the way into the playoffs
of the Super Bowl. Well, I wouldn't compare him to two.
I would compare him to Joe Burrow, where there were
no expectation. I think it was they're gonna finish fourth
places in division last year there was only sixteen games
(01:24:49):
go too and fourteen whatever. And I think Joe Burrow
was in the process of exceeding expectations before his injury.
Kyler Murray clearly exceeded expectations this season before Acre Mayfield
exceeded expectations in his rookie year. Now they stunk his
sophomore year a second year. But I only bring it
up to say, let me ask you because I think
it's a great question. What do you think a fair
(01:25:12):
season where we would say it was a success for
Trevor Lawrence and the Jags would be has to be
well record wise for the Jags or because I can't
give you statistics, not statistics, but record wise. And the
only reason I bring it up is because I don't
feel like there was any pressure on Joe Burrow to
win X number of games Kyler, Murray, Baker, Mayfield, etcetera.
(01:25:35):
But I do feel like like if Joe Burrow had
played a complete season and went four and twelve, we'd
be like, yeah, it's the Bangals, Like whatever. If Trevor
Lawrence goes four and twelve, I feel like people gonna
be like, you took that guy number one? What about
justin What do you think if four and twelve would
be a colossal disappointment? Right? The Jaguars over under is
listed in six Okay, so if you wanted to bet
(01:25:55):
the over, they gotta go ahead and go seven and ten.
To me, it be a disappointment if they weren't at
least a nine win team. I think they gotta be
above five hundred. And the reason I bring that up
is take a look at the division. The division is
not hard at all, so expectations have to go by
when you're playing the Texans, who knows who their quarterback
(01:26:16):
is gonna be? The Colts, I mean, yeah, they're a
good team, but it's not like they're dominant. And the
Titans certainly is the first place team. You know, they're beatable.
They're still loving in five team last year. So I
would think Jacksonville my expectations, especially with the best quarterback
in in the world, it should be like nine and eight.
Is that? Is that do I? I think when you
(01:26:39):
say nine and eight it feels too high. But when
you bring up fourth place schedule, you bring up the division,
Like you said, who is gonna be the Texans starter
Week one? Probably Tyrod Taylor, right, and frankly forget week
one week seventeen. I think if if Vegas had a
betting line on it, I bet Tyrod Taylor be Week
(01:26:59):
seven team as well. So I think when you say
it like that, yes, I mean above five hundred feels
a lot for the Jaguars, But I would also say
it wasn't that long ago. This was a playoff team,
and I know they traded all those pieces Jalen Ramsey, etcetera.
I don't know if they just failed. If it's another
(01:27:20):
like one in sixteen year for the Jaguars. Oh my goodness.
I mean, because look at all the grief we gift
to uh and he hasn't even played a full year
yet and we're already calling him a bust. And they were,
they were in the playoff race the exactly right. And
so it'll be interesting, and it'll be interesting from the
perspective not only from Trevor Lawrence, but Urban Meyer as well.
(01:27:42):
I mean, this was a guy and he's talked about
I don't know how I'm gonna handle losing at the
level that I'm going to lose at the NFL because
you can't win. You don't get eight cup cakes on
your schedule like you did in Ohio State. There's not
very many produce and Eastern Illinois and Western Kentucky's on
the schedule for the Jacksonville Jaguars. And so I'm curious
(01:28:04):
from the reaction to not only Trevor Lawrence, because one,
if he does not succeed, we're gonna pull out the
quotes from this week and say, well, I mean, he
told us himself he doesn't love football. Here's the result.
But also Urban Meyer. I think Erbert Meyer is an
interesting dynamic about this as well, that a lot of
people aren't talking about. You know, it's interesting of Zack Wilson, though. Um,
if he comes in for the jetson wins four five games,
(01:28:27):
we're gonna call it. Uh uh, you know that's something fantastic.
That's a successful season. Um, and he was he's the
number two pick, and that's not quite fair. If they
win five and twelve, we're gonna say, wow, that's Zack Wilson.
He has him going in the right direction. Boy, they
made a good move getting rid of Sam Donald. You
know two things on that one. It shows you how
(01:28:48):
special of a prospect Trevor Lawrence is. Because Trevor Lawrence
goes five and whatever. Everyone colossal failure. Zach Wilson number
two pick, one game difference from his team. Um, we
call it a success. But let me ask you, this
doesn't Zack Wilson just it doesn't. This just reek of
(01:29:10):
another Jets disaster. Like to me, it does because well,
let me think about it. Every time the Jets always
make the wrong decision. I like Zack Wilson. But a
year ago, nobody was talking about this guy as a
top five, top ten, top first round pick. Nobody had
ever heard of him, and I understand guys emerged, Joe
Burrow emerged out of know where Kyler Murray had never
(01:29:31):
I don't know, maybe he had started a game, but
but you know he he was coming off a transfer
year at Oklahoma. You know, I'm just talking. I just
I don't know. I just look at Zach Wilson and
I just say, man, dude, that this this just feels
so on brand for the Jets. You draft the guy
from b y U, small school, hasn't dealt with the
New York media, and like he's supposed to be your
(01:29:52):
savior after one year where he took the world by
storm in a year where, by the way, they didn't
play anybody too. It's not like they played the normal
schedule they were supposed to have with eight pack, twelve
teams or whatever. They played nobody all year. He put
up great stats. Credit to him. This just feels like
it just feels like such a Jets thing. You lock
it on this guy you don't even consider justin fields,
(01:30:15):
and we'll see what happens it It feels too on
brand for the Jets. By the way, if there's one
team that will go and throw a whole wrench into
this whole. Think it could be the Jets. I mean,
I'm sure they'll take Zach Wilson, but only because the
other one percent of the New York jeb so, you know,
would would certainly what's scoring to happen there, Tors. I mean, look,
it wouldn't. I'd be a little surprised, but it wouldn't
(01:30:38):
be beyond Roman possibility if they said the number two
picks gonna be justin Fields. I mean, oh my goodness,
they were playing us all the time. I don't know.
I I still think it Zach Wilson maybe, but what
put it past me? If if they just do something
different than the last minute. I do think it's really
interesting that we have all just decided this. I mean,
(01:31:00):
this starts at number three because I mean, and again, okay,
Trevor Lawrence we've known since his sophomore year in high school.
He was the best player in his high school class.
Every year for three straight years, gets the Clemson gets
the starting job, three games in, never looks back, wins
the national championship, three straight playoffs, whatever, that's pretty definitive.
(01:31:21):
At number one. Zack Wilson eight great games against Army
and San Jose State and whoever else they play. You
ripping on Army in San Jose State. I Mean, I
love America, so I'm not ripping on Army. But their
football team made exactly Ohio State and ain't exactly Alabama
and some of the teams that Trevor Lawrence beat. That's
almost we're gonna play that game. Well, if we're gonna
(01:31:42):
play that game, how many games in North Dakota State
play against Alabama and schools like that? For for Trey Lance,
you know, nobody's talking about Trey Lance and number two,
aren't he Well, he could be number three, he could
be number three, he's one. I'm just saying I could
be totally wrong on this because let's be and here's
the thing. None of us watched Trey Lance place, so
(01:32:04):
let's all pump the brakes here. But I bring it up.
This just screams Jordan's love. Two point out of me.
Jordan's love. You know, he gets all this height. Nobody
really knows anything about him. Nobody's really seen him play.
Still don't we still don't. Well, it's because he wasn't
even the backup by the end of the year. He
was on the practice squad or he wasn't dressing for
home games anyway. I don't know, but doesn't that feel
(01:32:26):
like this, like Oh, he's all hyped and then he
gets to camp and it's like, oh, wait a second,
he hasn't he's played one game in the last two seasons.
You know. I watched the one game North Dakota State
played this year, and I believe they were trailing into
the third. They didn't have a lot of points um
going into the game. They did rally for the victory,
but I was like saying them as a not a
good showing for your for your one big game. You
(01:32:47):
know what I'm talking about. Not not good when you're
putting your when you're show gazing your dials out there,
justin fields, dropping like a rock, for throwing for four
hundred plus yards against every team in the Big Ten.
Trey Lance sixty seven against Central Arkansas signed me up
for that guy. By the way, who are you picking
at number three? Is it? Is it gonna be Mac Jones.
There's gonna be justin fields. As as much as I
(01:33:10):
respect the season that Mac Jones had, it would be
justin fields. And I'll be honest, Darnie, I would take
Justin Fields at number two. I don't understand the Zach
Wilson fascination. I think he's really talented. I never once
watched him when we were on air on Saturday Nights
and said, well, that's the number two pick in the
draft right there. Justin Fields has done it at a
high level. He was great against Clemson. UM, and and
(01:33:32):
the other thing too with Justin Fields, and I think
we've talked about it over the last couple of weeks.
There are legitimate reasons why his numbers went down this year. Um.
You know, no team had the starting stop nature of
the season like Justin Fields did with the Big Ten
and everything like that. And then on top of it,
there's one game where his whole offensive line is out
with COVID. There's one game where Ryan Day his his
(01:33:55):
his play caller and not only has had coach, but
his play caller is not at the state him. They
have two games canceled the last minute. There are reasons
for Justin fields his numbers going down, and he was
still pretty good. And oh, by the way, when he
had plenty of time to prep against Clemson, he destroyed them.
So I'm just saying I would actually take Justin Fields
at number two, but I would definitely take him at
number three. How much you think, by the way, has
(01:34:17):
to do with um, the Ohio state factor. You know
what I'm talking about. I get it. I mean, is
that a bear? Is that even fair to go ahead
do something like that and saying, well, you know, it's
not like they put out great quarterbacks from Alabama, um
Ohio States? So buy or be ware? Is that fair
that we do that or what? It's a great point.
(01:34:38):
I mean, you try to look at all these guys
individually and and and not. But I mean even with
Mac Jones. I know you're asking about Justin Fields, but
we all watched two last year. There's a reason that
you that Haskins. You know, we saw what Haskins did, right.
Oh no, not again, it's horrible. Same with two it
and and so I I think it's a fair thing.
I mean I even go back I mean many years
(01:35:00):
are our colleague at Fox Sports, Matt Liner, when he
he was a very high pick and he just had
so much talent around him that that he was great
in college. So yeah, I think it's a legitimate concern.
I get it. But I would also say on the
flip side to me. I I mean, I still I
don't think you could pass on Justin Fields if you
think he's the guy. I think he's a really, really
talented player. I get it. It wouldn't stop me, though.
(01:35:22):
Brian says, Tours, any chance you could use your Fox
Sports radio connections to set up stinking genius versus Paul fight.
Everyone would love to see Paul demolish him lights out.
I'll ask Bernie the odds on that. Can you set
that up? Torres? I'm more than happy to get into
the ring with this guy, with Jake Paul. Huh yeah, no, oh,
please set it up? Please, Okay, you've never seen before.
(01:35:46):
I mean, Nate Robinson was a professional athlete and Jake
Paul knocked him out cold. Nate Robinson, please, I mean,
he only played in the NBA for ten years and
you know about dribbling a basketball, throwing punches a right.
So when we come back, we'll go out to Vegas
and we'll talk to Bernie Fratto from straight out of Vegas.
Got a lot of draft stuff, a lot of props
(01:36:06):
going on, a lot of gambling, all that coming up
next right here on Fox Sports or Radio. We gotta
talk about the music. You know, well, we'll talk after
after the show about the music. I gotta talk about
a guy named Artie Spaniard. How bad he just sucks. Wow,
you're so crabby today, Bobo. I am in an excellent mood.
(01:36:27):
Did Dodgers one the Lakers one? Then I have to
come listen to you. Jeez, you're filling it today for Laker.
Don want to get right to our guest, Jordan gist Ow.
He comes up at the top of the hour, straight
out of Vegas. It's Bernie Fratto, Bertie, what's going on
with that number three pick? But I saw Ma Kenzie
just put out the latest odds Justin Fields mine. It's
one thirty five Mac Jones plus one thirty. That's a
(01:36:49):
pretty big difference. They're saying just the Fields will be
the number three pick. Well, let's unpack this because I
think the question you're really asking is what in the
world has happened in the last forty eight hours in
the betting markets. And so there's a couple of things
that play here. First of all, after Justin Fields workout
or just prior to his pro day. He uh, look,
(01:37:13):
there's some recency bias there's some covering of bets and
and there's a maneuver that professional betters employed. It's called scalping,
and what it is. It's a short term in and
out strategy and the goal is to settle for smaller
profits profits from minor price movements. And in order to
successfully complete a scalp transaction, you have to place two
(01:37:34):
opposing bets against each other. Here's how it works. So
let's say back on March, when Matt Jones was plus
one sev to be the number three pick. You put
down a thousand dollars that brings you seventy. Now in
the night before Justin Fields had his pro day, he
was as highest to before this team came in, So
(01:37:56):
you get on that quickly. You put down a thousand
dollars that brings you back to only two fifty. So
now you've locked in profits no matter who goes numbers.
If it's Jones, you've netted seven fifty. If it's Fields,
you've won twelve fifty. I am still sticking to my
guns at mac Jones, Justin Fields and five percent Tree Lance.
(01:38:20):
And the reason is simple, guys. Mac Jones does one
thing that's off the charts and that's his ability to process.
It's recognition, it's anticipation, it's timing. There are metrics to
measure this now and in college football the year this
year he had a passing grade of ninety on what
you call statistically in rhythm throws averaged almost fourteen yards
(01:38:41):
of attempt per tent. The bottom line is that's telling
people he gets the ball where it needs to go consistently.
That's recognition. But the second thing is he was the
best in college football by a mile this year against
the blitz He was blitzed a hundred and twenty four
times this year, yet he led College Football and Everything
statistical category four yards passing, eight teen touchdowns, twelve yards
(01:39:05):
per attempt completion percentage on blitzes. That shows you by
the way that he deploys recognition better than any other
you know. Now, I know he's probably not as athletic
as justin fields. I get that right or Trevor Lawrence,
and I heard somebody on the radio yesterday losing their
(01:39:25):
mind setting he's not. It was athletic because Daniel Jones, well,
he ran a faster forty time than Daniel Jones, and
his vertical leak was half an inch less than Daniel Jones.
So the bottom line is, Arnie, what you were sort
of asking, I think is what happened and why did
the betting markets do that? And I hope that explains it.
That was pretty good. That was pretty good there, Burn,
(01:39:47):
I know you had some good insight into what's been
going on in baseball or what about twenty games in
for a lot of teams, what have you seen so
far from that betting art market? So you guys had
asked right before the opening day what your baseball thoughts said,
as you always bet dogs in April, and here's the
data we've got so far. If you just overall blindly
bet every dog, the dogs have one out right. The
(01:40:10):
record is eight five, so dogs have one out right
fifty one of the time. And based on the prevailing numbers,
if you've bet a hundred dollars on every game, you'd
be up three thousand two. And if you bet just
road dogs, you're still fifty four and fifty three, which
is fifty point five. So a hundred dollars would bring
back two thousand and seventy one. Now, the markets are
(01:40:33):
gonna correct, But like we talked about, some of those
long favorites don't always cash in baseball, and in April
it's hard because the books can't always get the edge
on the players. You don't know who's other than the Dodgers.
Look what the aches are doing. I mean, they've been
a prohibitive favorite almost every game this year and they're scuffling.
They're horrible. You could be making tons of money on them,
but I'd be betting against the Grom with the way
(01:40:55):
he's having hard luck. You get like a two and
a half to one on something like that, even though
the Mets pulled it out today. You know, he had
an r A at points six last you know, you
know if he somebody told me, if he goes to
the Hall of Fame, you won't have to thank his
teammates because not WI supported him. That's pretty good. Love that.
Let's get to some NFL props. The over unders came out.
(01:41:17):
We got props on the draft. Um, before we even
take a look at the props on the draft, anything
on the over understick out to them. But he rushed
to the window to say, I've got to get some
of this action. Anything surprised you there or what? Well?
One one you know number that surprised me was the
Raiders over under seven and a half steam to the
under minus one five. But yeah, they're two that I
(01:41:37):
would jump on right now. And I'm being dead serious.
And remember, you still gotta get your mind around it's
a seventeen game schedule, not sixteen. But the Chiefs win
total is twelve, all right, They've gone eight. The Chiefs
have gone eight straight years over the wind total, and
I think they're gonna do it again this year. But
here's why it's a free roll. If you get to
(01:41:58):
that twelfth win, you can't lose. The only way this
bet doesn't cash is if the Chiefs have six losses
this year. Can you really see the Chiefs getting six losses?
I was saying, like, do you think that could be possible? Well,
you look at what happened in the Super Bowl, and uh,
I mean from what I'm hearing, one of my moles
(01:42:19):
are telling me they've got a real chip on their
shoulder this year. So I think the Chiefs come out
hell on wheels and they do go thirteen and four,
which isn't that unreasonable to think they went fourteen in
two last year? So again, I think you'll get a
max effort out of the Chiefs. They don't think to
lose six games. The other team that I'm very intrigued by,
it almost looks too easy, is the Bucks over eleven
(01:42:39):
and a half wins that they started seven and five
last year. They had no t s, no mini camps,
no preseason. Brady is throwing the guys and you know,
the Napple Auto Parts parking lot to try to get
a workout in. People are calling the cops on him.
They started out seven and five, but once they got
it figured out, you saw what happened. And oh, by
the way, it's was like a college team. They've got
(01:43:01):
all twenty two starters back. I I just don't see
how they lose six seven games. I just don't see it.
So I like those two overs a lot burna Arnie
lad the segment talking about the NFL Draft at the
number three spot. What are some other draft props that
you're either into or you're thinking about or hot in
(01:43:21):
Vegas right now? What about draft props? Yeah, it's starting
to get fun, Aaron, because now you get past the
quarterback stuff and who's gonna go where and the head
to head in which you're now starting to see our
other UH draft props emerge on the board, like who
will be the first non QB picked. Right now, the
favorite is Kyle Pitts at plus one forty UH York
(01:43:45):
and tackle Penny Sewell is right behind him at plus
one fifty, and Jamar Chase is plus two fifty. Any
of those might be good value. And then, of course
the real wild card is number four to see what
Atlanta does if they keep the pick or they you know,
they trade out of it. But the first running back
Alabama's na j Harris is minus one fifty be the
(01:44:06):
first running back pick over Clemson's Travis a t n
was plus one eighties, so he's a prohibitive favorite. I
know all of our Errington like this. Penn State linebacker
Michael Parsons is the odds on favorite to be the
first defensive player picked at plus one over Patrick's or
Tan my most if he By the way, Ernie, if
I know you're a Patriot guy, If if Michael Parsons
(01:44:29):
is there at fifteen, which I'm not sure he will be,
not a dot in my mind, the Patriots will take
him and the PA. Do you agree with you? Except
for the fact that I think the Patriots find the
way to trade up the number ten um and then
maybe take Parsons there or take the quarterback if Trey
Lands falls the number two. But I think they're gonna
find a way to trade up because if Jerry Jones
can't get Pitts, but I don't think he can. I
(01:44:50):
don't think he'll want to stay at number ten. Unlet's
Pitts can play defense. I don't know what the hell
he wants Pits for. I mean, my god. And so
he watched the next few days because is we're twelve
days from the draft, and once you're gonna start to
see other props on first running back, first wide receiver,
first linebacker, first defensive lineman, first cornerback, first defensive player,
(01:45:11):
pick first player that listens to Arnie and Air, And
on Saturday night, it's just gonna keep going, and then
you'll see head to head. Then you'll see how many
guys from this conference? It will it be more from
the Big ten than the Pack twelve or the the SEC.
How many Alabama players that go the first round. They'll
start to rule out more and more products. The books
don't really like this particular aspect because the pros do
(01:45:32):
very well. They rely on information which are usually able
to find the limited, not high. And you know, it's
not really a big money maker for the books, these
draft props. But you'll see more and more as we
get closer to the n by the way, as we
let you go. You know how in March Badness, if
you get all the practets right, you get like a
million dollars or ten million dollars? Does anybody have If
you get every pick right in the first round, you
(01:45:55):
get five million, which is just about it. That's that's
harder than March Badness? I think. Yeah, I've not seen
anything of that nature anywhere, or a prop of that nature. Unfortunately,
I got nothing for you there, buddy. I'll throw out
the million dollars? How about that? And I'm just kidding.
All right, Bertie Frodo straight out of Vegas coming up
at the top of the hour. It's a mustle listen
(01:46:16):
to Bertie. We always appreciate my friend. All right, thanks guys,
All right, take care of Bernie, froud of everybody. What
do you think that's a good idea? Is it? Torres?
Go ahead and you funding the million dollar? Do you
think anybody's really going to get every pick right in
the first round the end. I'll tell you this, it
would be great publicity for you with almost zero downside,
(01:46:37):
because yeah, I mean you would have to come up
with a million dollars. But I mean, how is somebody
gonna get it right? There's going to be trades, and
there's always three or four guys that come off that
you never expect to go in the first round. So
I think it's a smart play by you, bar I
almost called you Bernie Arnie. I'm actually almost called you Barney,
which is I guess is a combination of Bernie. But anyway,
(01:46:59):
I think it's a good Yeah. I think you should
do it, and if somebody wins the million dollars, you know, well,
I'll do the show by myself. We got more draft talk.
I want to talk about Steff Curry Tube as we
talked about it maybe being a possible m v P.
Got some NBA stuff to get to, but first let's
see what's trending. A final check in with the Sacred tonight.
What's going on to Well, if anybody haven't seen those
bright yellow red Sox uniforms we talked about earlier, the
(01:47:22):
FS one is replaying the telecast right now and just
to be seated to see in Fenway Park those they're
supposed to air them, uh wear them for one of
the games that airs tomorrow. They're playing to tomorrow after
the snow out on Friday, well I in Boston tonight,
the Celtics won their six straight game, beat Golden State
in a close one fourteen despite Steph Curry's forty seven points.
(01:47:43):
Jayson Tatum scored forty four for the winners. Jalen Brown
and the Celtics was out due to illness. Then Memphis
one at Milwaukee one fifteen. Jannis Attendant Cumpo twenty eight
points in the loss, and San Antonio dominated at Phoenix
one eleven to eighty five. Devin Booker six of eighteen shooting,
so the Sun second in the West game and a
half behind Utah, which lost at the Lakers in overtime
(01:48:04):
today one fIF Donovan Mitchell is out at least a
week with his sprained ankle. Andre Drummond of l a
at twenty seven points today. Anthony Davis of the Lakers
is due to return next week within minute's restriction. Chicago
doesn't have zach Lavine for several games. He's in health protocol,
so they're missing his nearly twenty eight points per game.
But the Bulls ended a five game losing streak tonight
(01:48:26):
be Cleveland one oh six ninety six, Washington down Detroit.
Bradley Beal thirty seven points, but Russell Westbrook had another
triple double. He's the first player in NBA history to
have fifteen triple doubles in a twenty game span. That's
how normal this is getting. He only had two turnovers tonight.
That's twenty five triple doubles for the season for him. Wow.
(01:48:49):
Portland's Damian Lillard will miss tomorrow night's Blazers game with
a strain hamstring. He did not play last night either.
The NBA find the Raptors twenty five thousand dollars for
violating policies on rest and injury or warding. No details
given by the league. In the NHL, Vancouver finally returns
to play on Sunday, but five players, including the goalie,
are out Additional recovery and prep time needed. The Canucks
(01:49:10):
have been off for about three weeks due to massive
COVID issues. Twenty two players had tested positive. NHL wins
tonight for Carolina and Florida. The Minnesota Twins did not
play tonight's and their game at Anaheim tomorrow also postponed
to allow for more COVID testing in the Twins organization
and for contact tracing. At least three Minnesota players and
a staffer have tested positive this week. Also unrelated, Ken
(01:49:33):
Rosenthal reports one MLB umpire has tested positive. The two
late games were pictures duels. The Dodgers won their eighth
straight to nothing in San Diego. Clayton Kershaw beat you
Darvish outlefielder Mookie Beats made a diving catch to end
the game with padre runners on second and third. Houston
ended a six game losing streak with a one nothing
win at Seattle's at Granky the winning picture with eight
(01:49:54):
scoreless innings. Baltimore trailed one nothing to start the seventh,
but one six to one at tex Is. Milwaukee was
up seven nothing in the second inning and beat Pittsburgh
seven to one. The Brewers finally placed alfielder Christian Yelloch
on the injured list with a bad back. The Mets
split a double header at Colorado, but the Mets did
win the opener. Jacob de Gram got the win with
fourteen strikeouts in six innings. He struck out nine straight
(01:50:16):
batters at one point Kansas City or in a double
header split, winning the nightcap against Toronto three two on
a solo homer from Salvador Perez. Miami came back for
a ten inning win against San Francisco. Cincinnati came back
for a ten inning win against Cleveland Red Sox one.
Yankees lost Oakland one at seventh straight game. And on
Fox TV Today, with Major League Soccer beginning this weekend,
(01:50:37):
Fox had the l A f C game as they
beat the expansion team Austin FC to nothing. The superstar
player for l A f C, Carlos Vela from Mexico,
appeared to injure his knee when he was lunging for
a ball twenty minutes into the game, and so he
motioned for the trainer to come on. The head coach
saw that and thought he was asking to come out
of the game entirely, so the head coach subbed him.
(01:51:01):
When Vela actually shook it off on the sidelines and
wanted to check back in, he was informed, you're done.
They subbed for you. You're finished for day. So somebody
else had to play for the rest of the seventy
minutes to connect never come back in. In fact, they
had one of those in game interviews with the coach
and he was asked on Fox the head coach about
(01:51:22):
that Bob Bradley used to be the USA soccer coach.
He say, I might have jumped the gun. That might
be my fault. Not here he gave us a sign there.
I thought he needed to come off. By the way.
Sunday on FS one, Columbus against Philadelphia, back to you,
all right, thanks a lot to say, or you want
to get in there and underscore tours. I'm stinking genius won.
By the way, Steph Curry forty seven points, eleven threes,
(01:51:43):
Tatum forty four points, ten rebounds. The last ten games
for Curry thirty two points, thirty six, thirty seven, forty one,
thirty two, thirty eight, fifty three, then forty two, thirty
three and tonight forty seven points. I don't off I've
ever seen a streak like that over ten games. That's
absolutely remarkable. Um, are people not caring? Do they not
(01:52:06):
pay attention? Do they don't care? Because there are five
hundred team and they think it's easier because Clay is
not around. I don't know if you get the attentions. Again,
I don't know the doras well. I think he's getting
the attention that he should get. Um, I think making
the leap to he should now be an m VP candidate,
let alone the MVP favorite feels like a bit much
(01:52:26):
because to me, maybe I'm the only one that still
feels this way. But the word value still is the
word that is what's most important to me in the
most valuable player category. And I haven't go back to
a few years ago, um, you know, or excuse me,
not a few years ago. Last season, with what Lebron
did with the Lakers, Janice wins it. But I know
Janic says value to the Bucks, but the Lakers went
(01:52:48):
from out of the playoffs to first place in the West,
and I thought Lebron shouldn't want it. And so this year,
like I think Steph Curry is doing some incredible things.
I think I think statistically he's awesome, fing really fun
to watch. Doesn't mean that he should necessarily be the
MVP of the league either. Who's putting up better points
than that? I mean, he's second in scoring. Only one
person is in the top five in scoring and read
and assist. And that's Luca um. Other than that, though
(01:53:12):
Steph Curry and three pointers made, nobody's even close the
averages five a game, Damian Lillard isn't four. The guy
is is doing things that nobody else in the NBA
can do. He's the best shooter I've ever seen. Can
you imagine him taking on Michael Jordan for a three
point shooting contest? Wouldn't even be close, to be honest,
wouldn't even be close, there, Torres, And can you imagine
(01:53:35):
him taking out Michael Jordan and dunk contest? It wouldn't
even be close. Annie, it wouldn't even be close. He's great.
He's incredible. I mean, there's no doubt that he's incredible.
I didn't mean to cut you off. He's the best
shooter in the history of that of the sport, like
you said, and I think there's a lot of people
like me that a few years ago when he was
getting all the attention. I don't want to say that
(01:53:56):
I ever felt that he was overrated, but I did
think some of the narratives were a little bit exhausting.
But for him to, uh, you know, come off of
a major injury you know, come off a sea uh
injury plague season last year, full circle, no Clay this year,
and to still do what he's doing. I don't know
how you can't be impressed by the way. On the
side note, big victory for the Lakers. They're trying to
(01:54:18):
hang on so they you know, don't continue to fall
down them either, number six and certainly don't want to
get into that playing game at the seven eight nine thing.
But um, big victory over Utah and over time, I'm shocked.
I'm still waiting to see what they're gonna be like
when Anthony Davis and Lebron get back. It's gonna be
tough to get back in the second year when those
guys get back. But um, I'm a big victory over
(01:54:41):
Utah today. Are you a believer in the Jazz? Yeah,
I know you're not, but yes I am. Okay, I'm
just curious. I mean I know that Donovan Mitchell all
that stuff. I'm just saying they shoot the ball better.
I mean, as a team there are three point shooting
is phenomenal. I get it. I just think we see
a him like this every year. Although I'll say, you
know who else, I don't believe in is Philly. I mean,
(01:55:03):
what is different about Philly this year? I understand their
Doc Rivers a great regular season coach, but they have
a point guard that can't shoot. Joel Embiid I get it.
I like him, I don't. I don't know. It's other
than who would you believe in the East? Milwaukee, Boston? See,
I'm with you. I would just take Brooklyn. It was
funny we had on on the odd couple yesterday. We
(01:55:25):
had Olden Polonie, and Olden Polonie is adamant that not
only is Brooklyn not winning the title, he is adamant
they're not winning the East, which I found very surprising. Yeah,
we gotta get him on at some point here before
the end of the season as the NBA stuff ramps up.
But he was adamant, they're not winning the East. There's
they they can't get stops. What happens? Uh? You know? Basically, essentially,
(01:55:47):
I think a lot of his argument was that, um,
you know, you have all these scores, but what happens
in the playoffs when one you have to get stops?
But how do you share the ball? How do you
find the balance? And he actually said a lot of
what I've said, which is, I don't want to say
that it's a total parallel to the Clippers last year.
But I've been saying for weeks now is that, you know,
the Clippers, we just kept waiting for him to turn
(01:56:08):
it on, waiting for him to play together, do all
that stuff. And they got to the end of the
regular season and it was clear they had never played
together before. And so I'll be curious if they can
get at least a game or two in before the
playoffs start. It'd be fascinating to see what happened. It's
gonna be a fascinating playoffs, especially with them. I will say,
some stories we have to clean up before we get
out of here. That's coming up next right here on
(01:56:29):
Fox Sports our radio Wow Quick Show tonight, Aaron Torres
Areni span you're wrapping up a Saturday night. By the way,
what you're making my Arizona Wildcats hiring Gonzager systems to
what Tommy go Away? What do you think about that one? Well,
I listened to the final segment of last week's show
when I predicted that was exactly what was. I wasn't surprised,
(01:56:51):
Liss and I think it was a solid higher You
wait till five weeks after the season, and you could
have problems with the n c A. Yeah, I don't
think you should find wait wait five weeks to fire
a guy. And it was very clear that they waited
so that all the players wouldn't transfer, and they waited
until the Gonzaga season was over. I didn't like the
way they treated Sean Miller. I didn't like the way
they treated the players, the assistant coaches. But that's life.
(01:57:15):
And Arizona has a new coach. How do you like it?
Are They got a big recruit right off the bat.
Then there had some big seven footer that was gonna
go to Gonzaga decided he was gonna go to Arizona.
I did see that, Yes, yeah, so, Um, look, I
I don't know much about him. It's his first coaching gig.
He said he would never leave Gonzaga. Leveson was for Arizona. Um,
it's really only as good as your recruit. And I
(01:57:36):
guess the guy is gonna be a good recruiter, obviously,
when you've been to Gonzaga that long. Um, he's gonna
be good at what he does. I'm willing to give
him a chance to see how well he does. It's
it's been a little bit of a rough what last
three years plus for my Arizona Wildcats, so the change
was being made. I'm okay with the higher I would
have loved to see an Arizona guy get it, but
it didn't look like that's direction they wanted to go in.
(01:57:57):
You know, absolutely not what you make of the report today.
Brad Stephens seven years, seventy million dollar offer was about
to be from Indiana and he wasn't interested in leaving
college to go the Pros to go to Indiana. That's shocking.
He only makes three point six million for the Celtics.
That his uh star value is running out and running
(01:58:18):
out quickly, um, especially with this team. And he's not
gonna get fired after this year, but another year of
of of sucking up and being right around five hundred
is gonna get him fired. Three point six million. He
could have been in Indiana for UH ten million? What
the seven what seven year ten million a year and
you could have been there for life. I am absolutely
(01:58:39):
floored that he didn't take that job. I I can't
believe it. I thought for sure, and I even said
on the air here locally because we we carried the
Celtics fam. Him might be gone, but I can't believe
he didn't go. You know, I'll give you a little
bit of credit. You've been kind of on the Brad
Stevens is a little bit overrated camp for a while.
(01:58:59):
I remember a few years ago when it was universal, Oh,
he's the best, he's the best coach in the league. Well,
and you were why he hasn't one of He hasn't
won the East, he hasn't won a championship. So you
were a little head of schedule on that one, aren't
he He he's Um, I'm I'm I'm some Florida. I
saw that report today and I'm like, how can he
turn down seven years, seventy million? And another thing? He
(01:59:19):
loves the coach and I don't think he gets the
coach in the NBA like he did in the college game. Um,
and you know the whole Kyrie thing, I think that
really said him, you know, really turned them off on
the you know, trying to coach his NBA superstars. I
gotta tell you, I thought for sure he would have
taken it. Now that I see the money, I can't
believe he didn't take it. You know, that's a lot
(01:59:40):
of money. Absolutely, And and to me, what I wonder
is Woach from ESPN reported that they were set to offer,
and so I don't know if he just put it
out there, I'm not going to college whatever, but first
of all, I'll get I'll give you the hand of credit.
You know. We kind of made fun of the process.
And it took him three weeks. Ended up with Mike Woodson,
who was a former NBA coach that played there. Whatever,
(02:00:02):
they went after their guy, and sometimes somebody's just gonna
say no, and money apparently is uh. You know, he's
not driven by money, but give him credit. They put
the money together to get him. And if he just
happens to want to stay in the n b A
or doesn't want to go pro, or he's or go
back to college, or he's happy with his life in Boston,
whatever the reason. But Indiana had their top target. They
went after him hard. Like him credit for it. By
(02:00:24):
the way, every time I read an article, I saw
that Clay Travis put out another article about NBA ratings
going down? Are they in the negative yet? I mean,
there's nobody watching it. Every time I get to think
it's it's it's going down down here there. What the
heck is going on? How how much further can they get?
You know what I mean? All I'll say is listen.
(02:00:46):
I mean, we all love the NBA, but when the
when the players have made it clear that the regular
season doesn't matter, and there's there's some exceptions. Lebron has
when he's been healthy, has played a ton um. You know,
when when Katie and all these guys, Kyrie's taking off
every other game and you've made it clear the regular
season doesn't matter to you, it's hard to get fans invested.
I'm Chuck we having jumped on Kyrie Moore for these
(02:01:08):
personal games that he's missing. I I can't believe we
allow that. You know it's on it. It's to me
we that's another conversation for another show. But I'm so
over Kyrie Man. Incredibly skilled player, but you gotta show
up to play sometimes, all right? Thanks to the crew.
Bobo filling in for Laker Don Bow was our producer today.
The saga on the updates Aaron Torres my partner, uh
(02:01:32):
coming up back straight out of Vegas. Bernie Fratto must
listen to so you're gonna want to stick around for that.
I'm back on Sunday with my Sunday partner, Chris Blank
eight to eleven Pacific. That's eleven PM to two am Eastern,
So that's gonna be tomorrow. But Bernie coming up back
straight out of Vegas. Stick around for him here on
(02:01:53):
Fox Sports Radio.
