Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Week two, filling in
for Jason Martin as Jason celebrates the birth of his
new baby girl. He'll be in back in next Saturday
night into a Sunday morning, or I guess, as the
case is. It's past midnight on the West Coast in
the specific time zone, as Brian Griffin's girlfriend once referred
(00:24):
to it as so happy Sunday. In my world, this
means we're a day closer to the National Football League Draft.
Let's go. I could sit here and probably will for
the better part of three hours breakdown all the rumors,
all the projections, all the analysis, all the smoke, what's real,
(00:45):
what isn't and and here's the bottom line and all
of this right now as we sit here on the
twenty day of April, which again the draft is on Thursday.
First round is on Thursday. So depending on how you
gauge days, in my mind, that has its still what
five days away from the draft at least the first round,
and maybe six days from when the true madness happens
(01:06):
the second and third round. But as I sit here,
I still question everything, everything, and I've I've had more
people and I don't know if it's just maybe this
is a conversation for another time. I don't know, if
it's just this need for everyone to feel like that
they can get UH coverage, they can be talked about,
(01:29):
they can basically be the they can be the focus
when they say crazy things like I take Trevor Lawrence
off my board, or I guarantee you this is gonna happen,
or I can tell you right now. I've talked to
enough people where this is what I know. Whenever as
I sit here, as we say the Royal we as
we sit here, nobody really knows, nobody outside of those
(01:53):
in the war room. And then beyond say, I think
we all feel pretty good about what the Jaguars are
gonna do. All right, let're rephrase that everybody knows where
the Jaguars are gonna do. In one well, I have
a pretty good idea of what the new coaching staff
once with the Jets, and with the move of Sam Donald,
you get a pretty good idea of what Joe Douglas
(02:13):
wants to do as a GM. So we all kind
of if we all come to an agreement that it's
Lawrence one and Zack Wilson too, then San Francisco has
pretty much figured out what they want to do with three.
You would assume you would think, I don't think they
move up to three and just go, oh gosh, we're
gonna wait until the final second to make this decision.
And I don't care how many people guarantee me what's
(02:34):
gonna happen. I think San Francisco has been air tight
in the past. So unless there's been some massive security
breach at forty Niners headquarters, I'm pretty sure all these
people that are guaranteeing things don't know what the belief
they're talking about. We'll get to that. So I think
what we're talking about a draft that really starts at
four and then five becomes one of the most fascinating
(02:56):
spots because you know, obviously the Falcons will have a
decision to make. But then as Cincinnati, do you go
with the offensive lineman, you go with the receiver? Do
you maybe kind of surprise everyone and I don't know,
grab some defensive help, though I would assume that you
probably won't see a defensive player off the board until
maybe seven or eight. But I mean, it's all up
(03:18):
in the air. So tonight, in what I consider the
greatest sports week of the year. Yes, I said it.
We'll talk a lot of NFL drafts. We got the
crew here to help us out. Brian Finlay on updates
all night long. Make sure you follow Brian on Twitter
at Brian Brian with a wife. Finley. Chris Perfect my
man who we talk all things NFL, specifically, his focus
(03:41):
has been covering the Lions. So we'll go all in
on what happens at seven and Vince Close rotates it.
It's like a volleyball rotation. My daughter plays volleyball. My
birthday was on Friday, and to celebrate my birthday, there
wasn't the parties. There wasn't the cold beers. Well at
least there wasn't the cold beers yet. Uh, there wasn't
(04:02):
the NonStop I guess never ending meals out. No, No,
I was at a you with volleyball practice. So in
true rotation form, we rotate Vincent to produce tonight and
make sure you follow events on Twitter at V Close thirteen.
That's at v Close thirteen. Even though you don't tweet enough,
(04:22):
Vince and what's up with that? I mean, I'm saying
I'm going through tonight and I'm like wait, hold on,
Vince has got to have some thoughts on what's going
on in Major League Baseball and what I've tweeted since,
like the Nationals won the World Series. Yeah down, Yeah,
I don't. I don't do a whole lot on Twitter.
Not not my jam. Really, I use it more for research.
It's a good place to research. You know, you can
(04:42):
get some really bad opinions on the fantastic. There's more
than enough of those. So Vincent closes in tonight Chris
per feed on the wheels of stealing Brian Finley on updates.
So with all of that draft I guess you could
say projection and all of that draft buzz, I'm here
to tell you on a little Major League baseball to
start the show tonight. Let's go. Not because I'm gonna
(05:05):
pretend as if I've been this major Baseball viewer all
season long, and not to act like if I had
a Major League Baseball fantasy team, I would have any
idea what the hell I'm doing. I wouldn't. But I'm
going to basically queue up our same opening segment on
this Sunday morning from what we did last week. Ladies
(05:27):
and gentlemen, I present to you must see TV and baseball.
It's time for you to jump on board, all aboard
the Dodgers Padres train. And I don't I don't know
why it's taken so long, and I get it listened.
I'm sitting here complaining about a game not being on
national TV and it goes against one of my benchmark takes.
(05:49):
And I think everyone and everyone in sports radio kind
of has their things, their hills that they're willing to
die on, right. I think, regardless of what happens with
Baker Mayfield, Colin Coward's to die on the hill that
he thinks he's terrible, regardless of what happens with Kyler Murray.
Ben Mallor is gonna die on the hill that Kyler
Murray is too short to be an NFL quarterback, even
(06:11):
after he goes to the Pro Bowl, and even after
he wins an m VP at some point in his career,
he'll still be too short. Arnie Spanning, Barney's gonna die
on the hill that you're not relevant unless you went
to a Power five school. Right, I've got a few
of those hills, and I'm willing to die on right.
I'm willing to die on this being the best week
of the year. Um, a little bit more about me.
I'm willing to die on the hill that good is good.
(06:33):
I don't care where you played college ball. If you're good,
you're good. And eventually, regardless of if you're a former
Alabama Crimson Tide, if you're a former Clemson Tiger, if
you're former Oklahoma Sooner, when you get to that next level,
you're going to ball out, regardless of where you went,
or if you're a former North Dakota State Bison. And
(06:55):
oh yeah, my tanking sucks because I'm experiencing it firsthand
this year. I won't lie. It's the worst thing ever.
And the worst thing about tanking is that they try
to sell you like it's a good thing. Meanwhile you're
sitting watching your team get its head kicked in like
I could die tomorrow, and you're told no, no, it's
let's get all these draft picks. Tanking sucks, But thank
(07:17):
you for kind of coming over to the right Sideeah,
I got to the right side of this. But here
here's good news, Chris. One of the hills on mullan
and Island right now is that the Dodgers and Padres
is the best thing going in baseball. Yeah, the AI's
are rolling. Sure, things are kind of interesting in the
Bronx right now. To Graham's Scott a little bit of hope. Hey, hey,
(07:37):
he is awesome. It's one of the most impressive individual
pitching performances that we've seen period. There's a lot of
good stories around baseball. I mean not to muddy this
with the Detroit Tigers, but especially since I'm really focused
on the Dodgers padres here, But go ahead, Chris. I
was just gonna say a Kielbado has been fantastic hot
start for that rookie. But no, you're right, Like I know,
(07:58):
Dodgers fans are very much so. Uh. I don't want
to say they're in denial, but it is very much so.
It's big brother, little brother stuff. I see it all
the time. You know, there's sports Michigan, Michigan State, and
it's just happening here again. But it's a divisional rivalry.
It's good that the the NLS is going to be really,
really interesting because it looks like the Giants are gonna
enter into this mix too. So well, here's here's the
(08:21):
overriding point on this. All these hills and I'm laying
out I'm willing to die on all these things that
are benchmark takes. This kind of goes against one of
my thoughts because I've always been a person that will say,
if you're complaining about your team not being on TV more,
well you can illegally stream it now or BB to
keep you out of trouble. You know, you've got a
network that's dedicated to every single sport. You've got the
(08:43):
MLB Network, got the NFL Network, and they might not
always have games, but you get more highlights, you get
more in depth, and listen on you know, I Heart
Radio you can find just about every single play by
play broadcast. But with that said, I'm sitting here on
a I guess you could even go back to Thursday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday night and you have the MLB Network is showing it,
but it's still regional coverage. Major League Baseball seems so
(09:07):
consumed with and and this might be more of a
Rob Manfred finger point right now, but it's still it
seems so consumed with how can we how can we
make the game younger. I was reading a Front office
sports article when the season first started, Baseball targeting younger audience.
I get it. Everyone wants to do it. You know,
(09:28):
we talked about it last Sunday morning. The great unicorn
is to draw a younger viewer slash listener slash participator,
and then the even bigger unicorn is to continue to
get those non sports fans to be drawn to your
game or to your league. Baseball is struggled in both
of those areas. I mean, we all play baseball as kids,
(09:50):
but there's a point where you kind of move on
to being a fan, and then there's a point recently
to where you're like, these games are really long and
I don't have five hours to give to it. But
with that said, baseball has the ultimate seller right in
front of it. It's got a great rivalry, it's got
it's got two of the most marketable teams and two
(10:11):
of the best markets. And guess what, Dave got players
that resonate with every single aspect of the population, right,
I mean, they really do. And for some reason, where
is it when I want to watch it? It's on
MLBA regional networks. I mean, let's go. Let's if I'm
(10:32):
and I'm not gonna pretend to sit here and lay
out all of them rights holders for Major League Baseball. Right,
I'm pretty sure off the top of my head, there's
like TBS. I know they've got a deal on it.
Said what Sunday afternoon game Fox Sports one, Fox is involved.
I mean, I'm just if I'm any of these networks
and I see Dodgers Padres, Hey, Rob Manfred, or if
(10:52):
I'm even Rob Manfred, I'm calling him up be like, hey,
we got something here, and I think it's gonna work.
And I think it's gonna work for ratings. Not get it.
Sometimes it's hard to sell anything non football to a
prime time broadcast network entity. It's almost impossible anymore. And
it's it's got to be postseason or or college football. Right,
It's very it's very rare that you're gonna see Fox
(11:14):
suddenly getting the primetime game early in the season like
this for baseball. But with that said, this to me
is it and it and and and the bottom line
and all of this. The matchups always seem to deliver.
I mean, think about tonight. Here you are sitting in
a game that, for all intents and purposes, Blake Snell
va Trevor Bauer should be a picture stool and for
(11:36):
the most part it was. But even in the moment
where the hitters get the upper hand, crazy things happen.
This one in the air deep to left field, polic
at the wall, it's gonna go. A lead off home
run for Fernando and to t it's his third home
run of the series. Padres jump in front, one to nothing,
(11:58):
right off the back. And by the way, we're not
out in the world of piped in crowd noise. Those
are legit Dodger fans that are there, spaced out, but
there and anyways say well, there's nothing really that seems
too amazing about that playing that's a home run is
one zip. Fernando Tatis did the cover of one eye
as he rounded first base and then got into the
(12:19):
kind of Trevor Bauers slash Connor McGregor walk the strut
after he crossed home plate. It was fantastic and and
by god, to Tatis wasn't doing three in two the
Tatis here it is from Bauer and reached four. Hit
in the ear to left center field. Well struck again.
Peter's going back again at the wall, gonna go. Fernando
(12:41):
with his second of the night off of Bower, got
him in the first, he gets him in the sixth,
and the Padres back in front three to two. Now
here's the funny part is sometimes as baseball fans, sometimes
there's a lot of what's the best way to traditionalists
that are in there, and they don't like whenever dudes
(13:04):
show boat. They don't like whenever guys, lets you know
what they just did. But both Dave Roberts and Trevor
Bauer afterwards were like, yeah, you know what, he at
a home run. I got no problem with this. Trevor
is a person that understands, um, a lot of guys
playing and the kids be kids, and um, the emotion,
(13:24):
the passion and the excitement, and so if he's going
to do that and be okay, then obviously he's gonna
be okay with other players doing that, and you know,
and and that's part of it. So I got no
problem with that. So you had the Padres get out
to the early lead. They won the first two games
of this series, probably what maybe the most dominating performance
(13:45):
they've had against the Dodgers on Friday Night, and then
finally the Dodgers offense comes to life. Seeinger bangs up
base in the right center field Taylor scores Padies on
his way home. Arriving at third is Mookie and the
Dodgers have taken eight five ft three leagues. And then
(14:05):
as we all in Dodger Nation or y'all sit there
biting your nails, they decided to let Kinley Jansen out
of the pin and he even showed up Jansen on
two and two, Preciu slung on and miss strike Pree.
The Dodgers hang on and beat the Padres five to four.
(14:25):
Goodwin for the Dodgers after losing back to back games
the Padres. But again, this is fun. Is what baseball
should be. We shouldn't be sitting around putting on clown
suits trying to figure out how to gimmick up the game.
Put the Dodgers and Padres on TV more. You can
pitch like they can pitch, and we can pitch, and
(14:46):
you have offensive like that like we both do. They're
gonna be tight games and they really defend and so
they're gonna play tight games. So not not surprised at all.
It's fun. It's fun. I love, I love this series
has become. I know Finley's a big Padres guys to
see San Diego will get a couple of wins that
that ratchet ratchet it up a little bit. To see
(15:06):
the back and forth with the trash talk, that ratchets
it up a little bit more. I mean, I think
my favorite moment from the night, I mean, beyond the
tatis one I uh celebration covering up an eye and
in the strut was even when Bauer, who has been
dominated in his career by Manny Machado, when Bower strikes
out Machado, he just kind of looks back at him
(15:28):
spot smiles like you got me. And you know, there's
a part of me that always thought these two teams
were gonna throw hands, that at some point Dodgers Padres
was going to get to a level to where we're
gonna have a knockdown, drag out fight. I don't know
if I think that anymore. I think there is this
awesome mutual respect that's gonna get ugly between these two teams.
(15:51):
They're gonna get after it, and it's gonna be old
time hockey. It's gonna be fun. I love it out
baseball now again tonight it gets the Sunday Night Baseball treatment.
And if you mute the audio, Sunday night ball. Baseball
is an incredible watch. But they're gonna put on the
show like they always do, and it's gonna continue to magnify.
(16:12):
It's the best thing going in baseball right now, maybe
outside the A's but from a showman perspective, from a
butts in seats, from a make sure your eyes are
watching baseball. Let's get to get it on every channel.
Let's go all right. When we come back Fox Sports
Radio on a Sunday morning, I've got to start getting
(16:32):
into the draft. I'd love to hear from you on Twitter,
I'm at Plank Show or at Fox Sports Radio. You
don't really uh, you don't really need to do too
much to get me fired up for this week. But
when we're talking draft, we have to start at the
top and we have to figure out what's going on
at number three. We'll start to try to parse through
the mystery. Next Chris Planking for Jason Martin on Fox
(16:54):
Sports Radio. Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio so Jason
Martin Show? Did I say that right? It's the Jason
Martin Show on Fox Sports. Ready, I'm Chris Plank sitting
in against night. Jason will be back next week. By
a sidebar and we got a carve some time out.
(17:16):
But what a night for the UFC hall. I I
think maybe we'll get finlay on a little dig in here.
But we were at capacity, right, I mean that fifteen
k in there. It's one of the first sporting events,
at least indoors to where we've said zero capacity concerns.
(17:38):
Not again, I don't know if they claimed there was
a percentage or not, but from a viewer's perspective, from
someone that watched a majority of the main card, it
was one of those moments to where it kind of
brought back that whole man. I missed a crowd. Now,
don't get me wrong. The story from the night unfortunately
doesn't have anything to do with with krowd. It has
(18:00):
to do with it has to do with a dude
breaking his stick. We'll get to that and then one
of the more dominating fighters that we've seen in the UFC.
But from a we're back baby, and I'm not talking
about a sport, I'm talking about fans. It's a pretty
good start. That's kind of keep an eye on the
fallout from it over the next couple of days. Hope
things continue to trend in the right direction and maybe
(18:22):
maybe what we saw tonight in UFC will become more
of the norm and less of the anomaly. Well, allow
me to take a moment to introduce the crew that's
working the graveyard shift with you tonight. We mentioned him,
Vincent closes in tonight. He's on that volleyball rotation. He's
in as the I don't know what would you consider
the world the setter if we're talking volleyball. Congratulations Kentucky
(18:44):
on your national championship. There's your volleyball talk for tonight.
But Vincent close in tonight, Big Nats guy, what's going on, Vincent?
How are you? I'm doing well. I think I think
center would be in the appropriate you know, love it
up to you guys. Let you guys get down. Yeah,
my Nats got destroyed by d crom but then they
(19:04):
come back and uh, they they do great against Stroman.
So I don't know what to make of all that.
But I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I
don't really know what to make of baseball period right
now with some of what's going on in the standings,
because I thought after the first three games the Red
Sox sucked. Now they're dominating. Uh, the Royals are in
(19:27):
first place in the Central, the A's of one thirteen
straight games, and the Brewers have one of the best
run differentials in the National League. And they leave the
Central right now. And I guess, as Prefet pointed out, Vincent,
I don't know what and the Giants, I guess are
and this makes in the West, right, I don't even
know what's going on. Well, I mean the East. I
think every team is either at or below five hundred.
(19:49):
So it's it's ridiculous. But you were talking about the
Padres Dodgers stuff, and I want to tell you, as
somebody in l A, I can't watch the games. Well,
it enrages me because I pay for MLB dot tv
and they have these blackout rules, so it's not cheap.
(20:13):
You know, you guys probably spend money on NFL uh
Direct TV and all that stuff, Like if you look
at each one of them, it's not cheap. And so
to go from that, and then I turn on my
cable because my wife and I have pretty much cut
the chord. We get apps for everything. I go to
my my app for my cable company and they've switched
my cable package, which I did not do when we
(20:35):
moved and I used to get Sports int l A
and now I no longer get it. But I'm not
going to spend money when I pay for MLB dot
tv that you know, and the fact that they blackout
games for the local market, what they should do is
just give the streaming numbers to the market. Let them
count that as their numbers for whatever. Because you're forced
(20:55):
to watch the broadcast, Like you can choose which broadcast watch,
but like you know, if I'm watching a Dodgers Padres game,
I'm probably gonna watch the Dodgers podcast the broadcast because
that's the one that I'm most familiar with, you know,
And five seventy is, you know, one of our filts. Here,
they've got the Dodgers on radio, so I can listen
to it there. But it's really frustrating not to be
(21:15):
able to watch a game that is. I mean, it's
important to baseball that this series, that the series go. Well,
it's crazy to me that of all the amazing I
guess you could say creations advancements that we've had and
covering sports, that the Major League Baseball blackout restrictions are
(21:37):
still in effect. Well it's not just It's not just baseball.
They all do. They all have blackout things, you know,
like I can't watch a Washington football team game out
here unless I pay for you know, direct TV, or
you know, I illegally stream it or something like that,
because it's all dictated by what the games are gonna
put on on the West Coast. And sometimes they won't
(21:57):
even have a morning game on the West Coast. Well,
and I get that, but at the very least, you
can pay for it on the Sunday ticket and you'll
still get it. Yeah, And if I'll give you for
in Stane and I know we gotta grab break, but
I live. I broadcast from the amazing state of Oklahoma
in the city of Norman. I'm blacked out from five
(22:17):
Major League Baseball teams. That's unfair. How was that so? Well?
I'm glad you're on boy tonight, Vince Chris Profett. Of course,
I say it a lot. We get knee deep into
the draft in the NFL. He's got the he's in
the lab. He's cooking up what's gonna happen at number
seven with the Detroit Lions. Right now. We'll get to
(22:38):
that tonight a lot. Good morning Chris, I'm cooking up
all over the draft here. I don't just keep myself
to seven. But I mean, man, you you skipped over UFC,
But what a what a knockout from from usman there?
That was? That was again it's cool to see it
a capacity, but for me, uh, you know, besides besides
(22:58):
the injury, which was very Anderson in appearance of never
want to see that, but I mean I I to
see wore a Moss would all go down like that
was something that's more one of the more impressive knockouts
we've had in a minute. And you can see. But
as you say, it is draft season. It's exciting all around.
I know. Em It just checked in on Twitter worrying
about his Seahawks. I hate to break it to him though,
(23:20):
because the Seahawks aren't going to be picking on Thursday night,
but um, yeah, it's it's it's fascinating because well we'll
get into it later. Because this is the time of
year where just everything's up in the air. I've seen
some people kind of losing their minds. As you know.
All it takes is ian rap reporter. It takes Adam
Schefter to tweet out, oh this team is uh, you know,
(23:40):
trying to feel requests about trading back, and everyone starts thinking, okay,
so that means that the team will trade back. They'll
trade back, right, And it's like no, no, no, no,
they're just doing their due diligence, like settle down just
a little bit here. I don't know if we'll I
don't know if we'll do a good job of settling
people down tonight. We'll try our best. No, it's exciting,
but the rumor mongering is out of control and it's great.
(24:01):
And of course the third member of the crew comes
strolling into the Fox Sports radio to get Hiss caught
up on everything going on in the world of sports.
I guess technically the fourth member of the crew right
one finley with what's what's going on? Hey? What is
going on? Chris? We begin with the NBA, where the
Nuggets chucked down the Rockets one nine to one sixteen.
(24:22):
Michael Porter Jr. Had a sensational night a season high
thirty nine points. The Timberwolves overwhelmed the Jazz one oh
one to ninety six, as Minnesota had thirteen steals. The
Lakers blew a seventeen point lead and surrender to the
Mavericks one a week to ninety three. Anthony Davis with
seventeen points, although he bricked on fourteen of his nineteen
(24:45):
shots from the Mavericks are now with that win within
just a game and half of that Lakers number five
spot in the West, and Davis said after this one
that the next two games for Los Angeles are must wins.
The Heat snipped the Bowls one oh six to one
on one Duncan Robinson seven triples and twenty three points.
(25:06):
In baseball, the Dodgers dent the Padres bullpen five to four.
The final score. L A scored three runs after San
Diego pulled starter Blake Snell with one out in the
sixth inning. Bernado Tatis Junior hit solo home runs in
the first and sixth innings. The Athletics expand its winning
streak to thirteen games after duping the Oriole seven to two.
(25:26):
Garrett Cole strikes out of eleven, gives up three hits
and seven innings as the Yankees clipped the Indians to
to one. The Marlins not Jupiro home runs to clock
the Giants five. For the Phillies mark up the Rockies
seven to five. Reese Hopkins. Hoskins had to home runs
to go with this five RBI. The Rays got the
Blue Jays five to three as Toronto left nine runners
(25:50):
on base, and the White Sox get a two one
win over the Rangers. And as you guys were talking about,
Cameraouseman keeps that welterweight title at UFC too sixty one
by a knockout Jorge Masvidal on the losing end of
that in the second round with an avalanche of punches.
And going back to what you were saying, Chris about
it being full capacity, Yes, and it is, according to
(26:14):
Dana White, UFC president, the first sporting event that has
been full capacity since the pandemic kit indoors in the
United States. So a pretty remarkable achievement. And like you said,
fingers crossed that we can do more of this as
soon as it is safe and possible. Back to you,
my friend, Thanks Brian up, looking forward to hearing from
(26:34):
you throughout the morning. Again. Uh K, it was an
awesome environment. It was what we've been missing. Now, let's
hope everything stays on course to where we can continue
to get more nights like tonight in the UFC. Hey
for the very best NFL Draft coverage. Not only do
you keep it here tonight on Fox Sports Radio, but
(26:54):
tune in throughout the first round of the draft on Thursday.

Simply search f s are events I want. I want
to go back to one thing we were talking about
here real quick, and that is kind of the blackout
(27:38):
rules in baseball, and I just it always triggers me
a little bit, and not like I'm somebody that gets
too caught up trying to watch a ton of games
that aren't say the Dodgers or even I I did
watching the Graham Pitch. Really really, I am a big
fan of kind of what's going on in Oakland right now,
But think about this. We're blacked out. And when we
(27:59):
say blacked out, you do have different entities that carry
the game. Right. So for instance, if there if you're
a certain subscriber to one cable package, you will get
all the Cardinals games. But let's say, for instance, I'm
a Direct TV guy and I still have Direct TV
because cutting the courts sounded cool and all, but I
(28:19):
think you end up paying more for all of the
different packages when you're trying to get all these channels. Anyway,
and by the way, I'm not trying to say that
keeping Direct TV is the way to go, but um,
I then end up spending that. Say Buddy went like,
oh god, direct TV, but I'd like to have ESPN,
plus I'd like to have this. But let's say, for instance,
I have Direct TV, since I don't have this other
cable package, I can't get a Cardinals game. And then
(28:41):
if I had that Cardinals game, I wouldn't be able
to get our that Cardinals package. I can't get all
the Astros game St. Louis Houston, the Texas Rangers, the
Kansas City Royals, and the Colorado Rockies. At one point,
don't know if it's still as strict as it is now,
but we're all blacked out and I live in Oklahoma,
don't sports. We are awaiting to get Chris Plank back
(29:04):
on the program. Brian Finley here running things until we
can get fully operational. Vince Close Crisp is with us
and I wanted to discuss, guys, some of the NFL
Draft and the conversation that I don't think hasn't been
discussed as often, UH needs to be. Of all of
these quarterbacks that are supposed to go in the first round,
(29:24):
who do you think is going to be the biggest bust?
And myself, I can't help but think it's it's Zach Wilson.
I was listening to to Skip talk this week on Undisputed,
and the conversation and the argument was, you're going into
a to a place where you have no weapons around you,
you have no talent around you to support you. Who's
(29:46):
you're gonna be your running back? You've got to go
and get a running back as well. The wide receivers. Yeah,
there's some pieces there, but it's not a place to
set yourself up to succeed, unlike what you got with
the Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence, who obviously has Urban Meyer
at as his quarterback. And then you go to number
three and whoever the Niners select, and certainly there is
(30:08):
the conversation most people have to think it will be
Mac Jones. But I'm looking right now with a CBS
Sports mock draft and they've got Trey Lance as number three.
But whoever they have, you obviously know the sort of
defense that they're running with. And I just I don't
see the love and the luster over a Zach Wilson
that obviously the Jets see. I see him more of
(30:31):
as a project. He's obviously somebody that can't take a
whole lot of hits. He he's flashy. There's some semblances
of a Johnny Manzel. Now, certainly I think he's gonna
have a much better NFL career as his but you
have to expect that he's going to be the guy
right away. And we've seen so many times when players
(30:55):
are able to take that one year and sit things out,
and you look at Aaron Rodgers, you look at even
a Tom Brady. These guys had a year in front
of them where they were able to make that transition
a little bit smoother to the NFL before getting that
starting job, and it's it's Zack Wilson. There's no question
in my mind that he is going to be the
(31:17):
guy right away. And I wonder at times that when
you put guys in situations because he comes from b
y U and I know we had a great pro day.
But one of the things about a pro day, and
this is something I was thinking about earlier today, a
pro day is like an optional dessert at Red Robin,
Like it's the server is trying to pressure you to
(31:38):
get it, like the players feel compelled to participate in it.
But if you pass on it, are you really missing
anything from a player's perspective. I don't think you are.
And I think we overhype guys like Zach Wilson off
of their pro day and think that the reason that
there they have all of these intangibles. Well that's wonderful,
(32:00):
But you've got no pass rush during these pro day situations.
And so I have concerns over things. Do we have
Chris plank back, We have Chris p working tirelessly, Chris,
my friend, it is all yours. Thank you. What were
you getting into talking pro days there? Because that's that's
my little world, you know, something about desserts. So yeah,
(32:20):
we're talking about red Robin desserts and whether these guys
at their pro days are going to be heading out
the Red Robin afterward. Chocolate cake is really good under
it was it was fascinating. I know that this is
very stressful for Christoph Fatt and he's working his ass
off to try to get it all fixed. But I was.
I was sitting in in the last segment, just kind
(32:42):
of going up after Finley got done with this update,
and I was going into some baseball stuff and I
said the events, what do you think of this? And
it was quiet. I was like, dang man, they must
have really silenced people up on this baseball cable package.
In fact, it was funny to me because I got
this tweet from uh. I guess what would be tant?
I say that very slowly. As soon as you said,
(33:04):
let's talk about these baseball blackouts, these cable packages, we
have to buy dead air. Somebody pulled the plug. You know.
That was my favorite thing. By the way, UM, whenever
I was a kid, whenever I was younger, and I
think perfect whenever we were on a couple of months
ago we talked about this, UM, art Bell was my
(33:26):
favorite thing to listen to. I loved art Bell. Yeah,
it was great. It was the best. And you know,
looking I'll sometimes whenever I do the overnight show, whenever
I'm sitting well, sometimes whenever I get the opportunity to
fill in, I'll sit here and in the middle of
my pre prep I listen to like old our bell
shows because if I was ever up at two am
(33:47):
Central time, that's what I was listening to. So too.
Tance point on Twitter when anything would get kind of dicey, like,
for instance, he would have the people that would call
in and say things along the lines of, hey, you know,
I'm a time traveler, come from the past. I'm just
sorry the futump coming to tell you guys, this is
what's going to happen, and then all of a sudden,
(34:09):
you in the middle of it, it it would stop and
arts like hello, Hello, I I think we just lost Hello.
It was that one call where like, I think there
was one guy who called in who was like he
was crying because he thought the government was tracking and
the whole station went down. Wasn't just wasn't just like
art Bell himself, like the whole station was taken off
the air. I remember because I was I used that
(34:30):
sound for like the the obituary I did for him
at USC and it was it was bizarre. That's and
I maybe that's what happened, maybe trying to talk to
Vince about these TV packages that you're putting out too
much truth out there MLB. MLB has got it. Do
you know what this reminds me of? You remember that
Mark McGuire episode with The Simpsons You want horrible truth? Yeah?
(34:51):
Do you want to know the horrible truth? Or do
you want me to see seem me socks some dingers?
And our truth was it was word to wise and
the mL satellites have been monitoring us. I'm saying anything
more about baseball because in fact, that was my question
to you, is is if we could start talking draft,
And then when I didn't hear anything, I was like, well,
(35:11):
maybe I need to stick with baseball. By the way,
we're coming to you live to Nino Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Chris Blankett for Jason Martin, and we're brought to

(35:35):
gonna recap the night that was in sports coming up
here on Fox Sports Radio and preview the day of
HEV I got a few minutes left here in our
number one We're gonna kick off hour to really focusing
on what's going on at number three overall in this draft.
But we had a fascinating fight slash debate last week
on my Sunday night show. Now Sunday Nights, I get
(35:58):
a chance to hang out with Arnie Spanier from eleven
p to two a Eastern time, and it was right
on the heels of the whole Trevor Lawrence SI article
where and and again this is kind of rehashing old news.
I think I think we've already moved on to the
(36:19):
mac Jones judgment again based on the d u I
that he had. But the more and more and more
that I look back on that, it's kind of interesting
to me that people would be mad that a dude,
how dare he has another life and prefet You and
I talked about this a couple weeks ago whenever the
knock on Justin Fields was first guy, first guy out,
last guy in or something of that nature, and we don't.
(36:41):
We people can prepare in different ways. Now you don't
have to be sitting in an office or in um
a film room to watch film or to do your
job anymore. You can watch film on your iPad and
be crazy about it and not be sitting in a facility.
And that's the only place you can study. So there's all.
As John Middlecoff said, the earth is flat, you know,
(37:04):
we can we can basically do anything anywhere at any time.
So with that, with that said, our fight was based
on this and the over unders came out. The Jaguars
were the second worst in the league and they're over
under was six and Arnie's take was, the Jaguars don't
win nine games, it's an it's it's an unsuccessful season,
(37:27):
and the Jaguars are gonna win nine games. Now. First
of all, I'm a believer that the a f C
South is pretty stout. You know, It's it's funny because
one of the takes as well, it's a bad division.
I mean, I know the Texans are down and we
don't know what's going on with DeShawn Watson. But the
Colts and the Titans were playoff teams last year, and
I'm not ready. I know this is a dangerous kind
(37:49):
of uh sheet of ice to walk out on, if
you will, if I start saying bad things about the
Titans in this time slot. But I'm not somebody that's
sitting here telling you the Titans are ready to take
over the world. State of your division is also irrelevant
to how good or bad a team is. Yeah, thank you.
I mean, so there was the South stinks and a
nine win season. I would take the other and I
(38:11):
don't know, maybe maybe the Jaguars win more than six
games this year. I don't. I mean they won one
but two last year. I mean, it's a new it's
a it's gonna be a first time NFL coach in
Urban Meyer, a first year quarterback like number one overall. Yeah, yeah,
number one overall, but still a whole new, whole new system.
You know, Daryl Bevil is a long time offensive coordinator
(38:32):
and he's even got a couple of his guys down
there that he want. So maybe there is, But I
think there will be some growing pains with Jacksonville. But
I mean, just just for the reasons I'm not going
to like I I don't know. I I think for
a lot of teams, we kind of assume they're they're
gonna suck more than they actually do. I just right,
and I'm not here to try to discourage anyone from
(38:53):
thinking that the Jaguars might be better than they were
last year. But to suddenly say, and this is kind
of what even triggered me, Well, Urban Meyers coming from
the college ranks, and he wanted the college ranks in
the a f C South stinks and Trevor Lawrence is
this transcendent player. If they don't win nine games, it's
a it's a disappointment. Well, I'm sure it is for
(39:14):
like Jaguar Johnny on the Jacksonville Jaguars message board are chaps.
But I mean, bottom line here, you gotta be real right.
First time in NFL coach, I don't care how great
you are the college game, there is an adjustment period.
Number one. It's growing pains, it's it's it's and it's
a team that did they have They made some nice
moves and Trent Balky do they have a really sharp
guy running their football operations? Absolutely, But to set that expectation,
(39:39):
I don't care how you bet, I don't care. You
do what you want to do. But to set that
as if they don't win nine games, they stink. I mean,
they're cross conference matchups. It's with the NFC West, and
I I'm I think the NFC West is really good.
I think it might have three playoff teams in there,
at least two, So we'll see how it pans out.
(40:00):
I'm just here to tell you right now, I think
it is unfair to put an expectation on a dude
that's taking over as the number one or even the
number two pick in this draft. They're saying, oh, yeah,
they're gonna go out and win nine games and go
to the playoffs, which, again, nine games anymore is nine
and eight because we're looking at a seventeen games schedule,
all right, profet fixed everything. Our one is in the books,
(40:21):

Jason Martin here on Fox Sports Radio. The whole crew
is here tonight. Vince Close is sitting in at v
Close thirteen. He's running the show Chris Perfett on the
Wheels of Steel. I say it a lot. It's like
we do the show together when I get to fill
in at Chris Perfett with two ts on Twitter and
at Brian with a why Brian Finley on Twitter as well.
(41:05):
I got so much draft stuff to get to. I mean,
I'm afraid to mention baseball, but Emmit brought brought this
up on Twitter. So keep an eye on the equipment here,
Chris uh Immit rights. This blackout crap is so annoying.
I'm a Dodger fan and sometimes I can't get the game.
I get it sixt of the time. Blackout should not
be a thing period. Well, and then especially I thought,
(41:29):
I thought baseball really missed an opportunity during the pandemic.
I just I don't see cable companies, teams in general
saying hey, we don't want more people watching our games,
especially with all the different ways you can consume content.
Now it's in raging I think about this. You finally
(41:51):
get your team, and I guess you could say the
pinnacle of baseball during the early season is to have
your team on Sunday Night baseball. Fox hasn't quite picked
up its prime time games yet. I don't even know
when that starts. But you know, FS one has had
a handful of games. But you're you're you get on
Sunday Night baseball. You might have a team blackdown on
(42:13):
Sundaynight baseball. It just it doesn't make any sense. Fix it,
fix it. It's not this is two thousand and ten.
This is right, this is two thou blackouts to me
are antiquated. Now. I'm not sitting here putting this on
my list of hills. I'm ready to die on I
have a lot to still learn about the why behind it,
(42:34):
but I need to die on it. I don't even know, Chris,
if I got the explanation of the why, if I'd
be like, okay, that makes sense, because it doesn't. Well.
The the why for from what I understand of it,
is because they want people to be focused on the
local markets and local stations for ad sales, and they
(42:55):
also want people to actually be in the stands for
games because as more people are apt especially with baseball.
More people are apt to stay at home and watch
a game than go to a game because there are
so many of them there, and so it has to
do with a lot of the revenue that comes in
from people going to games and stuff like that. I
(43:16):
disagree with that. No, I think we all disagree with that,
but ridiculous. I do think it's kind of funny if
you you truly think about it, because here here we are,
as I'm in the market, that if I'm like, okay,
well blacked out the Cardinals game, Honey, get the kids.
We gotta drive nine hours to Bush Stadium in order
(43:36):
to watch the game tonight. It's yeah, for you, I
feel extra bad because you're just in no man's land.
Oh for for being able to watch port like at
least here, you know, I don't get to watch the
Angels or the Dodgers, but I can watch Padres, I
can watch everybody else on the West Coast, and then
I can watch every other team in the country. But
(43:57):
to be where you are, where you don't even get
the pleasure or of having your own Major League BASEBA team,
to have so many teams right around you that you
know you might not watch all the games. You might
pick one here or there, but it kind of sucks that, like, oh,
hey the Dodgers are in town to play the Cardinals.
I can't watch that game. You know, just any of
those good games that might match up, you can't watch them.
(44:20):
I feel, you know, I thought I had it bad.
And I'm not kidding you. This is not being I'm
a pretty dramatic dude in case you can't tell, so
I'm not being overly dramatic. But it never fails. The
one game I want to watch and I'm like, oh,
good pitching matchup tonight, let me check this out. Boom
blacked out. The other day they had a Twins game
(44:41):
blacked out. I don't know. It's like, why I'm in Oklahoma?
What are we doing? So regardless it's antiquated, we'll we'll
talk less about it because I think it's enraging. And
there's some people that are I got no problems at all. Good,
feel blessed. I mean, you must be live from Bismarck,
North Dakota tonight. Enjoy living in Montana right exactly exactly. So, um,
(45:06):
let's drive into some draft talk, shall we. We're gonna
have great draft coverage coming up Thursday night right here
on Fox Sports Radio, Jay Glazer, our information guru, is
gonna have all the inside information. LaVar Arrington giving perspective
on every single pick. They brought in a prose pro
like Kevin burkhard to anchor everything. And you hear Bucky
Brooks weekends here on Fox Sports Radio. He's awesome. But
(45:28):
I gotta um, it's been a moment looking at what
Mike Silver had to say this week. Now, I know
Silver is is an acquired taste for a lot of people.
It's one of those you know, take taking Relieve my
I can't follow Mike on Twitter because he read, he quotes,
tweets everything that anyone says about him. Right, It's like, dude,
just just calm down. But I dig his information. It's
(45:52):
kind of like the Peter King conversation we were having
last week. Give me all the Peter King information during
the off season. Now, during the regular season, I'm good,
But during the off season, I want all the information.
So I want to share with you about a four
or five tweet report. All right, let me be clear,
it's not a report, but it's a perspective. And when
(46:13):
I get through this I want to get everyone's take
on if their opinion about what's gonna happen at number
three has changed, because I am a firm believer, just
to kind of let you know where I stand. I'm
a firm believer that all the mac jones talk is smoke.
And I don't know why, but I think people have
(46:35):
looked at Kirk Cousins, They've looked at the success that
Matt Ryan has had and they say, huh, well, he's
gonna want a pocket passer. And Kyle Shanahan has talked
at times about how he values that. I tend to
think that this is about either Justin Fields or Tray Lands. Now.
I tend to lean more towards Trey Lance if they're
(46:58):
keeping Jimmy garop Low around, because I think they're smart
enough to realize that Trey Lance probably isn't a guy
that you can plug in day one and he can start.
But I also I'm old enough to remember when after
the Clempson, Ohio State game, there were people that were
wondering if Justin Fields might actually be a better quarterback
than Trevor Lawrence at the next level, Which could happen,
(47:20):
which could still happen, so I just I don't think
you move up and give up all that draft capital
to get to three to take Mac Jones. So let's
with that in mind, here's what NFL Network Mike our
NFL Network reporter Mike Silver had this week. He writes,
I've not talked to Kyle Shanahan. He'll make the ultimate
(47:43):
decision as he should. He's got a much invied offensive
system and a very specific idea of what kind of
quarterback can thrive in that system. And the Niners just
made perhaps the boldest trade in history to get to three.
So far, I see no lies. We can debate boldest trade,
(48:04):
but so far, so good. It is my belief that
the players the Niners were targeting when they made the
trade under the assumption that Lawrence and Wilson would go
one too to the Jacks and the Jets was Alabama
quarterback Mac Jones. Obviously, you only make this move if
(48:25):
you're also very high on Lawrence and Wilson, he continues.
Once they made the trade, Shanahan, g M. John Lynch
and other important decision makers had the luxury of doing
some extra digging both Ohio states, justin Fields and North
Dakota states trade lance have many attractive qualities, and there's
(48:46):
no reason not to continue the process. I dispect in
all likelihood that Shanahan will stick with his original inclination
and won't end up deciding he likes fields or lands
more than Jones, and he'll never get a shot at
Lawrence or Wilson, who will be off the board. A
(49:07):
couple more things here, because this is where I kind
of had to do a double take. Why Jones? Because
I'm gonna pause here real quick. Perfect, You and I
have spent the better part of what three of the
last four weeks doing this show are our Jonases show
two together? Isn't that the greatest question in everyone's mind?
(49:27):
Why Mac Jones? Because and again, we're not in a
position where we're covering teams that we think are going
to draft quarterback, but they're always rumored to do so.
With that in mind, isn't that the overriding question? Why
would you choose Mac Jones over guys that we feel
like are athletically superior to him? Yeah? I think I
think it's especially that it's it's usually deployed the cool
(49:50):
question of why Mac Jones deployed when talking about why
Mac Jones over Justin Fields. Now, I could see the
case if you're talking about you'd rather take Mac Jones
or a Tray Lance. Okay, I can listen you there,
because there's much good upside Trey Lance probably has. I
get that Mac Jones is the more complete product, and
I don't really hold it against Mac Jones about him
not being that mobile. Plenty of quarterbacks in the NFL
(50:12):
our statues in the pocket end. I maybe we're falling
in love with a new trendy thing that we want
everyone to be able to move, like Patrick Mahomes. I mean,
I I just I deployed this the other night. The
other day on another show, I asked this question. We
see all these teams talking about and all this media
talking about we want to trade up. If Justin Fields
(50:33):
goes past you know, three, and he's still there after three,
everyone wants to go up to do to get Justin Fields,
right those rumors. Let me flip the script. So let's
say for the forty nine ers take surprise, everyone take
Justin Fields. That same script isn't being written for teams
trading up, being like we want Mac Jones. So I
(50:53):
think that's that's kind of showing some of the the
the interesting part of the Mac Jones fever. Again, I'm
not ready to dismiss him, but at the same time,
I'm not sure where a lot of love for Mac
Jones came from. I mean pro days and we you know,
friendly talked about pro days as far as desserts. But
(51:14):
you know, even as own pro day he struggled a
little bit. And Mac Jones I think can be a
good NFL quarterback. But when you're talking about what's a
safe bet at the top of the draft, I still
think Fields is better than Jones. He's my He's my
number two. So we asked, then, why Jones. Here's when
Michael Silver writes, among other things, the Niners believe he
(51:37):
has uncanny pockets skills, especially out of the shotgun formation
and next level footwork. He can slide in the pockets
to either side and react quickly to on rushing defenders,
even unblocked ones. And then this is where I think
the came from. Jones comes from a tennis playing family
(51:59):
and spent some time on the hard court as a kid,
and that seems to correlate with the exceptional footwork he
clearly has absorbed a lot of football knowledge and the
synchronization of his throwing motion and footwork is impressive. Again,
it's not a report, just telling you what I perceived
(52:19):
to be going on. Unless and until Kyle proclaims it,
there will be enough drama to keep us at least
a little on edge until the pick is announced next
Thursday Night Tennis. But but everything else that proceeded that too,
just kind of goes against what we know about Mac Jones.
Like if he has his pocket awareness, like that's great.
(52:42):
I haven't seen him exactly do anything that. Again, I
hate to keep using Patrick Mahomes the comp but where
have we seen that kind of footwork from Mac Jones?
And again, it's not a disqualifier if he is stationary
in the pocket, if he's not able to roll out
of the pocket and make plays happen with this feet
like Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers, just be honest about it.
(53:03):
I I just don't see the footwork for him. Our
our buddy Jeff Schwartz has talked about it quite a
bit here on Fox Sports Radio, and Jeff's gotta what
what I think is gonna be a really really cool
show coming up. I think it's gonna be available at
Fox sports dot Com, and I think it's gonna be
available on the app. It's basically going to be available
a little bit of everywhere. And it's it's an offensive
(53:25):
lineman boot camp, right, It's kind of like the Gruden
quarterback camp for offensive lineman. But with that said, Swartz
and many others talk about the Mahomes the mahomeszation, home
mahomes Ization, or however you want to phrase it, of
perceiving the quarterback position. I like mahomes Afication. Mahomes affication
(53:46):
is even better. And basically it's what Perfect just brought up.
Everyone feels like they need to find that next Patrick Mahomes.
Was Patrick Mahomes highly thought of coming out of college, Sure,
but I mean outside of Andy Reid and some die
hard Texas tech fans and a few of us in
Big twelve country. And I say us, I wasn't in
(54:07):
that mix. I don't think anyone projected that this would
be how it ended up from Homes. No, I think
most people, I mean, I don't even think people thought
that highly of him. It was just the Big twelve,
Like people were doing a little bit at helmet helmet
scouting with him. They were like, oh, he's from Texas Tech.
Big twelve just throws the ball up. The word that
kept coming up was the best I could find with
people talking about his upside is like, yeah, he's a
(54:28):
gun slinger, but they weren't talking about his mobility at all.
They were just like, yeah, he can just air out
the ball. It's a gun slinger, it's Big twelve, it's
it's red Raidar football and everything that comes with that.
So it's the Cliff Kingsbury offense, all those things. Yeah, yeah,
he goes vertical, but no one was expecting this. But
I think you're onto something that everyone wants there on
the homes because, like we we've known this forever. The
(54:49):
NFL is a copycat league, and that is the brand
new shiny uh flavor. Now, like we got through the
quarterbacks that we're kind of stationary but could run, you know,
hurry up up tempo, kind of like what Peyton Manning
was doing in his final years, and now we've moved
on to hey, we just really want a guy who's
really mobile. We've kind of gone through the looking glass.
(55:09):
We had the prototype with r G three, they got
cut short, and now we're on too, we see the
finished product of what that could look like with guys
like Patrick Mahomes and even even some other quarterbacks out there,
be that Jared Allen, Jared Allen or anyone else that
there are quarterbacks out there that can do everything. We
want quarterbacks that can do everything well. And it's funny
because now if and could you bring this out with
(55:33):
Mac Jones. It's almost as if saying someone is a
pocket passer is the worst thing you can say about that.
It's all game manager, right, I don't want Alex Smith,
you know, It's It's just it's funny how that quickly
goes from zero to one. So anyway, I found that
fascinating because you know, I'm a I'm a big consumer
of all things sports media, and I think that on
(55:56):
the Three and Out podcast John Middlecoff, who was one
of my favorite listens, and I encourage everyone to check
it out. You know, I I judge things that I
I listened to on a sports radio side to to
kind of pique my interest in one of two ways.
Either I'm entertained and I'm laughing, or I'm I'm agic,
I'm getting learned up, I'm getting educated and I always
(56:16):
get smarter. When I listened to John Middlecoff and he said,
as somebody who covers the Niners, there's somebody who lives
in the Bay Area. I have no idea what's gonna happen,
you know, I just I find that for a guy
that worked in the scouting community, that lives in the area,
that covers the team, and you go up and down
forty or beat writers, everyone is speculating. I can't go
(56:38):
Michael Lombardi and say, well, I guarantee it's not gonna
be Fields. Okay, good for you. I'm not doubting your sources,
but I don't think you can guarantee anything with what's
gonna happen at three. And there's one point that Silver
brought up and that I think is dead on. Maybe
you move up to three, right, You're you're Kyle Shanahan,
you're John Lynch, you're Jed York whoever I all has
(56:59):
to sign and off on that movie, which, by the way,
I don't think anyone does. I think Shanahan makes the
call on everything in San Francisco. Uh, you move up
to three. You know you're not getting Trevor Lawns. You've
accepted that Zack Wilson's likely going number two. But as
you said, at three, you come up, you're like, I
gotta make sure I get Mac Jones. But in that process,
you start digging deeper into tray lance, you start digging
(57:20):
deeper into justin fields, and suddenly you realize, holy smoke,
there's more smoke there than I ever thought. Is that possible?
What could be going on right now? Niner fan? I
know Mac Jones is like a four letter word right
now to you. Trust me. I follow East Bay Chris
on Twitter. I see the hate. But what what gets
you over the top pumped at three for the Niners?
(57:43):
What what say you about what the Niners might do
at three in this draft? Because I'm here to tell
you nobody has a clue, and people can tell you.
I've talked. I guarantee you it's not going to be
this guy, all right, guarantee it's gonna be this guy,
all I promise it. I mean, no, we don't know
the night and I know we're do for a break. Guys.
I'm sorry, I'm going along here. But the Niners are
(58:05):
one of the more lockdown franchises. There's not a lot
that gets out, even the Jimmy Garoppolo trade, and you
think back, like, WHA, where'd that come? Sure, we all
knew Nick Bosa was going to be drafted, but that
was kind of obvious. I mean, they keep things close
to the vest. So you're telling me that suddenly enough
is gonna get out to where people can tell you
(58:25):
that they guarantee a certain guy isn't gonna go there.
I'm not buying it. Who do you want? Nine a fan?
It is up on Twitter as the show rolls on
at Fox Sports Radio, I'm at Plank Show. We've got
other qbs and other teams to talk about next. As
we roll on on a Sunday morning, Chris Planking for
Jason Martin on Fox Sports Radio, don't listening to Fox
Sports Radio. Brian? Wait, what Jason Martin show here on Fox?
(58:51):
Who's Brian here on Fox Sports? Do we even have
a Brian? Where did that come from? Gosh? This as
bad as last week. Whenever I was whenever I was
throwing it to Brian Finlay and I said, Steve the
Sager's coming up. That really happened. See, I live by
one simple philosophy. If I call myself out, you don't
have to. I was pitching a perfect game tonight. Boys,

(59:37):
couple of quick tweets on this um. Kevin writes, Hello,
we gotta Can I make a request? And I know
I didn't get a chance to fill in a ton
but I mean the lack of a Twitter profile pick.
It used to be what an egg and now it's
kind of like the shadowy almost lego man figure. Get
you all some profile picks, you're all not that ugly,
(01:00:00):
or make it like a team logo or something. Anyway,
Kevin writes, I've been saying for a while San Francisco
should take Kyle Pitts Pitts and Kittle double Headed Monster.
Then I could even play quarterback for them, maybe moved
to three because they knew Atlanta would take him. Boy,
wouldn't that be a fascinating fascinating ropidote. All this talk
(01:00:25):
about quarterbacks and moving up and who they're gonna get,
and all of a sudden, Roger Goodella is standing there
in Cleveland and everyone's going crazy, and and we truly
don't know what's gonna happen at number three. Un less
some report breaks the night before, and we're listening to
Jake Glazer tell us what's gonna happen, And all of
a sudden, Roger Goodell goes with a third pick. The
San Francisco forty nine ers take Kyle Pitts. I mean,
(01:00:45):
I philosophically, and if you're playing madn it sounds awesome.
But as much as I love me some Kyle Pitts,
and I think that when I talk about generational players
in this draft, when I and by the way, I'll
get Chris, you've changed my perspective a little bit. On
Michael Parsons, I mean, I still want men to go
to the Raiders, but I see guys defensively like Parsons,
(01:01:08):
maybe Jalen Phillips, even at the cornerback position. Farlans R.
Tan got the horn, j C. Horn. You've got a
lot of really good defensive players. But on offense. I
think there are generational types of talents that are available.
Guys you plug and play not just for a couple
of years, but for for a decade. And Kyle Pitts,
(01:01:28):
I think is one of those at the tight end position.
But I don't think you give up all that to
move up to three. And I know you're not saying that, Kevin,
but you don't move up to three unless you're getting
a quarterback. I'll tell you what. This has been my
philosophy all throughout and this is kind of going back
and forth on on on Twitter two at playing shows
at Fox Sports Radio. Is I don't think you can
(01:01:50):
move up for Trey Lands. Okay, why not because a
lot of the knocks on Trey Lands involved amount of
games that he's played, age and obviously the level of competition.
But if you're and not even like a self professed
quarterback Gurule, if you're in that that same league with
(01:02:10):
Kyle Shanahan when it comes to developing quarterbacks, I mean,
if you look at a guy that has that unlimited
ceiling like Trey Lance seems to have. And I talked
last week to UH Austin Gale about this pro football
focus and He said, you know, Tray Lance might have
the highest ceiling of anyone in this draft, anyone in
this draft, but he also might have the lowest floor.
(01:02:32):
In other words, if it falters, eagn falter, you know,
not saying anything bad about the dude, but if it
doesn't go well, it's gonna go poorly. And maybe Shanahan
sees that, which is why there hasn't been a deal
yet for Jimmy G. Because you know, even though that's
a lot of money invested in the quarterback position, you
you need a guy there to smooth that trans that
(01:02:53):
that that I guess you could say, transition from Jimmy
G to your first round pick, not go when they
take Mac Jones at three, it makes no sense DA
have Jimmy Garoppolo and your roster. But we'll see in
it right in it. By the way, he spent on
fire tonight on Twitter. I like Mac Jones. He's the
best fit for the forty niners and has a stacked
team around him. He also asked Kyle Shanahan, could you
(01:03:16):
see the football team making a blockbuster trade to land
Field or Lance Fields or Lance Wouldn't that be a
situation where if you see the Washington football team move up.
I mean, Chris, you're a little bit better on the
draft value than I am. But if we're starting to
see them knocking on the door, if you're Washington at
like four or five, I mean we're looking at almost
(01:03:39):
where they are in the draft right now. What are
the nineteen in the first round. You're looking at a
forty Niners type package to get up that high, right Yeah,
it's it's going to be a lot. And that's why
I just don't buy that every team is willing to
spend the value to get up there. There might be
one team if the quarterback you want is available, But again,
it's gonna be a matter of it's gonna be a
(01:04:01):
game of chicken, because that value goes down if you
wait a little bit longer, if you trade with like
a Carolina or a Detroit at eight or seven. But
you do need to jump. I mean, in the minds
of everyone is you do need to jump Denver at nine.
And Denver might want trade up to just so they're
not getting jumped themselves. But that's kind of that's the
(01:04:22):
game of chicken going on. You've got Denver there at nine,
whose quarterback hungry? And then you've got options to trade
up and again like I think, yeah, I think Washington
is a good Canada to trade up. I don't know
if New England. I see. The thing for New England
is I given this draft which is top heavy, but
the rest of the round, the later half the round
(01:04:44):
isn't too great. I don't know if teams looking to
trade back want to trade back as far as nineteen
or twenty wherever wherever New England is right now, I
don't have the sheet up in front of me, but like,
is it fifteen? Okay? Yeah? And Washington, I'm sorry, Washington's
at nine. Well that's that's the problem for Washington done.
It's like, okay, do you maybe Washington wants to trade up,
(01:05:07):
but you're gonna really trade all the way down at
nineteen and lose out on all those guys because who
could be in the middle of this of this class.
Be it certain if he falls or Horn or Jeremiah
Usu Coramoa, who I think is a fantastic linebacker and
did do both coverage and pass rush. You're gonna be
second highest PF slot coverage grade for your boy out
(01:05:28):
of Notre Dame. Yeah, I mean even if Rashawn Slater
is I couldn't even see Rashawn Slater falling all the
way to like nineteen. So that's kind of the risk
for anyone who wants to trade with Washington, and you're
matter how much, no matter how much they package for. Yeah,
and I love the idea because do they need a quarterback? Yes,
but you're looking at a situation where you're going from
you know, plug in guy day one too, where suddenly
(01:05:51):
you'd be drafted in a spot where you might not
have a guy graded as a first rounder. So it's
a it's a tough call, all right, We got more
to come on Draft Talk and win we come back.
Who is that key player beyond the quarterback position that
a team might want to trade up to get? Plus
could could Carolina be a wild card team? In the
quarterback conversation, We'll dive into all of that in moments,
(01:06:13):
but first Brian Finley is in with an update on
everything in the world of sports. What's going on, be
fin what is going on a whole lot? UFC is
where we begin, Camera Osman keeping hold of that welterweight
title and UFC two sixty one by knocking out Jorge
Masvidal in the second round with a flurry of punches.
In the NBA, the Nuggets dominate the Rockets one to one,
(01:06:35):
sixteen Michael Porter Jr. Three nine points. The Jazz faltered
to the Timberwolves one oh one to ninety six, Minnesota
coming up with thirteen steals. The Lakers let go of
a seventeen point lead as they get wrecked by the
Mavericks one a weight to nine three and after the game,
Lakers said coach Frank Vogel spoke about the misques in
(01:06:57):
the shooting department for Los Angeles even attack the ramp
or enough, crush on the rim enough throughout the half.
As we were talking about in our time outs. You know,
they make a difficult They put five in the paint,
try to take that away and make make you beat
them over the top, and um, we've got some clean
looks out there, but just shot the ball horrifically. Meanwhile,
Dallas is just one and a half games behind the Lakers,
(01:07:19):
who are in that fifth spot in the West. The
Bucks dissect the seventies six or one thirty two to
ninety four, Milwaukee scoring forty six points in the fourth quarter,
and the Nicks achieve a ninth win in a row
after flummixing the Raptors one oh three. In Major League Baseball,
the Dodgers emasculate the Padres bullpen. Five to four was
(01:07:39):
the final outcome as l A scored three runs after
San Diego pulled it's starting pitcher Blake Snell early in
the sixth inning. The Athletics increase their winning streak to
thirteen games after ganging up on the Oriole seven to two.
Garrett Cole pitches a diamond here or pitches a gem,
I should say striking out a leven gives up three
(01:08:01):
hits and seven innings as the Yankees are able to
slither past the Indians two to one, and the White
Sox get it done against the Rangers two to one
as well. Nick Madrigal, with the game ceiling bottom of
the ninth rb I double as a walk off. We
send it back to Chris Plank and Chris, you know,
if the forty Niners go with Mac Jones, I know
(01:08:23):
you were talking about his family having this tennis background.
Well there's another guy who's a quarterback on the Niners
who has a tennis background. That would be Josh Rosen,
So maybe those two could be doubles partners as they
will also be training. You would think in the off season.
Oh my gosh, I didn't realize Rosen was back with
the Niners. I thought he was still celebrating with the Buccaneers.
Myke goodness, that do it his bounce? You know what
(01:08:44):
they should do, Chris They Josh Rosen. And I've been
an apologist for Josh Rosen. He's only twenty four. Why
don't you just hand him the keys to the offense?
I look at you know what, gim me Kine mcdown
right back, Steve Bona, let's get let's get this thing fake.
Uh yeah, he is back with the Niners. How about that?
So Josh Rosen, which is a great and I'm being
(01:09:07):
careful here because I know you're a U c. L
A guy fin and I was, And this was one
of the few draft things that I actually got right
in my life where I was like, I don't know
if I buy it, But here's Josh Rosen who heading
into the two thousand and eighteen draft, which on my
account was eighteen nineteen four drafts ago. You know, we're
we're heading into its three whole years four drafts. Was
(01:09:30):
the tenth overall pick in this draft, not not like
tenth in the third round ten period. And it's already
on his fourth team and not even on an active roster.
He's on a practice squad roster. It shows you how
challenging this can be, even at the quarterback position, especially
at the quarterback position. And I know, listen, we've we've
(01:09:51):
we've seen a thousand different notes on I'll I haven't
had a team that I want a Super Bowl with
a verse round of verse or I don't care. You're
still gonna go try to get the guy at the
most important position to be a difference maker. And I
brought this up last week. This is still something that's
fascinating to me. Look at the careers of Super Bowl
champion quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers didn't start until what his
fourth fifth season, I don't know, we don't need to
(01:10:14):
get into a Philip Rivers Hall of Fame debate, but
he didn't start until his third season. I mean, Steve
McNair went to a Super Bowl, I think won an
m v P. He didn't start till his third season.
Doesn't happen anymore. Now. This is kind of what's interesting
about what are the falcon Is gonna do it for,
because I don't think they're in a position where they
(01:10:35):
can take a quarterback even if they want to. With
the way that Matt Ryan's contract is currently set up,
I think you're kind of stuck with him for two
years and you're gonna sit a fourth overall pick for
two seasons. It might be great, it might work out well,
and I think there's actually an out after next year
from Matt Ryan. But if you got a chance to
(01:10:56):
get the best position player outside of quarterback back in
the draft sending at number four, maybe you do it.
Maybe you go get you a Kyle Pitts or Jamaar Chase,
or get that tackling a Piney Sewell. The funny thing
about four with the Falcons, and I hate to bring
everything back to the Raiders, but here we go. I
think I think in in landing Matt Ryan and and
(01:11:18):
Derek Carr in Vegas, you have two of the most
polarizing guys within their own fan base. I'm a big
believer in both, But Falcon fans would tell you why
this isn't two thousand and sixteen anymore, Why the dude
has outside of outside of the attempts that the Seahawks
(01:11:39):
have made to surround Russell Wilson with better playmakers, have
the most of them failed unfortunately? Yes, but look at
look at what the Falcons have done to consistently surround
Matt Ryan with talent first round picks and receiver and
Ridley and Julio Jones and going out and spending the
money back in the day to bring an Tony Gonzalez
(01:11:59):
uh the Austin Hooper and of course he moved on
to the Browns this offseason, but was an incredible I
guess playmaker for Matt Ryan in that offense. Running back
position was always one that even with going to kick
Todd Gurley this offseason, they'd always invested in a you know,
in Freeman another set. There's a lot of Falcons fans
that say, oh great, what are you gonna do? Go
(01:12:21):
get another offensive weapon so that Matt Ryan can lead
us to a horrible start and a great finish and dude,
just enough to make us optimistic for the following season.
I think it's a great debate. There's one side that says, hey,
he's shown us he can be an MVP caliber guy.
Fix the defense, get us a playmaker, let's go. And
(01:12:43):
there's others that say we've got enough playmakers, I mean
shifted to Vegas. Now. Vegas obviously not in as enviable
of a draft position as Atlanta is, but if I
can make it relevant to now. The annual Draft day
storyline finally finally reared its head this week, which was
John Gruden and Mike Mayock have done their homework on
(01:13:05):
all the quarterbacks in this class, which, by the way,
would be dumb because you're not gonna have a chance
to draft at least two of them. So I hope
your homework was done on three or four or five
of the guys outside of the top two. Anyway, I digress.
There's a faction, a very large faction of Raider fans
that say, we're done with Derek Carr. Done with him.
(01:13:25):
Look at his overall record. It doesn't matter what they
have offensively or defensively around him, it doesn't matter that
the team has skunk. He's not the guy. And then
there is this other faction, kind of like with Matt Ryan,
maybe a smaller faction in the Raider nation that says,
what are you talking about, dude? Put some talent around him.
They're starting to grow. You know, now they're gonna rebuild
(01:13:47):
the offensive line, even though I didn't know need to rebuild.
Get a defen givehim a defense, give a defense that
can shut people down, and then maybe you'll have a chance.
But suddenly this story about oh, the Raiders have done
their homework on quarterbacks, that pops out. Everyone loses their mind.
So to fan bases, who I think just absolutely positively
(01:14:10):
desire to be in the quarterback market, I think, regardless
of what you hear, it's just not happening in Atlanta,
in Vegas. In Vegas probably based on where they are
in the draft and Atlanta unless it's fields there at four.
I think if it's fields at four, it can get
very interesting. I really do, because that might be a
moment where Arthur Blank steps up and goes, I'm I'm ready,
(01:14:35):
let's make the move. And I know that you know,
this is Arthur Smith's first year. I know that it's
a relatively kind of new mindset in the draft room.
But sometimes an owner might come in and say, we
need someone new, and this is the guy live a
year with Matt Ryan. We'll figure out his contract. Unless
that happens and I don't see it happening. I think
(01:14:55):
Arthur Smith's gonna live a year with Matt Ryan and
see how it goes. I don't think Derek carrs about
to get extended for a long time in Vegas. But
I guarantee you this. Come next summer's draft, I guess
Springs Draft, there will be a report about the Raiders
doing their due diligence on the quarterback class, because well,
(01:15:16):
we do it every single year. All right, I promised
some non quarterback talk. Let's get into it. Who's the
first non quarterback off the board and where does he go?
We'll dive into it next on Fox sports Radio. Don't
listening to sports radio. Getta tell you something. I am
a mock draft addict. I feel like I need to
(01:15:37):
have that conversation looking in the mirror. My name is
Chris Plank. I am truly hopelessly addicted to mock drafts.
And I was like, hey, welcome, Chris, are are we?
But there is one practice that I think in mock drafts,
and I this is relatively new, needs to stop. I
don't think I can find a mock draft anymore with
(01:15:57):
everyone projecting the trade in the compensation is going to
be a part of it. All right, here's what's gonna happen.
Lines are gonna trade with Patriots can drop all the
way back down to fifteen. Patriots are only gonna give
up a third and fourth round pick to move up.
It's like I stop been paying attention, or or it's
the other way around, which by which, by the way,
if if someone moves up from the teens, and that's
(01:16:20):
the thing, everyone's like, oh, the Patriots gonna trade up
to four. All right, well they're gonna give up a
lot because now if you're moving up eleven spots, right,
you're going from fifteen to four. If I'm sitting there
and I'm in the Falcon's war room, I'm wanting something similar,
if not more than what the Niners got, our gave up,
(01:16:43):
excuse me to to move up to number three. So
I just I love now, you know, smart people when
they do it. If Jay Glazer puts out a mock
draft and has projected trades, Pete Traeger is pretty good
out of it. But it's like, listen, if you run
draft die hard dot com. I don't know if that's
a website or not. Y'all just just stick to doing
the mock draft, all right? Tell me who's going where?
(01:17:05):
In your mind? I don't need And at twenty three,
I don't know who's a twenty three Off the top
of my head. They're gonna give up eight future first
round picks to move up to number three, and at
that point, at twenty three, the Jets are gonna take sex. Stop.
But speaking of confusing, I'm sorry you want to ask
something that. Am I crazy for thinking that? I mean,
(01:17:25):
I don't get me wrong, I love trades, but when
we get to the point whenever, and I'm here for
the mock draft, I'm not here for the projected trades.
They're gonna happen, whether or not if you try to
say they're going to, we do it. Geez. So, I
think one of my favorite things that is happening right
now is trying to figure out what's gonna go down
at four. I think we've all kind of laid out
that there is a great mystery three with who's going
(01:17:45):
to be to pick a number three? Right? We have
no idea. I Michael Lombardi has guaranteed us it's not
gonna be Justin Fields got a little hot whenever the
dude questioned him, Um, I mean, listen, I'm not ready
to fight over who I think is gonna go number three.
But if you say it's not gonna be Justin Fields, okay,
I don't know why. I don't know why you would
(01:18:06):
look at anything and say I need Mac Jones over
Justin Fields. But here we are. Maybe it's that tennis background,
But the true conversation starts at four, and then I
think five is the most fascinating because at four, as
we just brought up, as we just brought up in
the last segment, falcon sitting there. Don't think they can
take a quarterback. They might want to, but don't think
(01:18:27):
they're going to. And I think they end up getting
help at the tight end slash receiver position. I think
that's where pitch goes. I really do. I think they're
gonna You're gonna fall in love with what Arthur Smith
could do with the Kyle Pitts, the matchup nightmare he
can be, and I think it's gonna be a great fit.
But before we wrap up our number two on this
show and kick off our three with a lot of
(01:18:48):
audio from the war rooms, including Jerry Jones apparent fascination
with Kyle Pitts. We're all in the war room, Vince Close,
Brian Finn, Chris Perfett, myself, the Cincinnati Bengals. You're sitting
at five, the best offensive tackle and arguably the best
wide receiver are on the board. Prefect. What do you do?
(01:19:11):
Do you go, Jamar Chase? Do you want that playmaker
to pay alongside some young up and comers and Joe Mixon?
Or do you want your your left slash right tackle
that you plug and play for years to come in
a in a potential pin a steel there? Which way
would you go? Yet? Pen A swell I I I
(01:19:32):
heard this argument earlier on another show A Receivers. If
you set your offer. I've become a big believer in
this in the past year. If you set your offensive line,
you can do whatever you want an offense hard stop
and that's been the key to like that was the
key of the Cowboys a few years ago. That was
a key now to the forty Niners and the Tennessee Titans.
(01:19:53):
Set your offensive line, you can do whatever you want.
You there's enough wide receivers. You can wait till day
two you find another good one. You will not find
another Pine Suol in this draft. I like Rashawn Slater,
but like those are the only two that are that
are like top to your offensive line talents draft Slater
and Sewell. Just get Sewell. Protect Joe Burrow because I
(01:20:15):
know if if for myself as a Lions guy, if
Sewell is still there in the Bengals pass on him,
and I'm the Lions, I'm rushing that envelope up there
because Sewell, like you, just set your offensive line, protect
your quarterback. It it the dividends are will pay out constantly.
I know, really got about him. Let's send a minute left.
But Vince, are you in deep on the draft where
(01:20:36):
you want to venture a take on this? I'm I'm
I'm in lockstep with you, guys. I'm going to sell
like it's just you gotta you gotta protect your quarterback.
Joe Burrow is the guy that is supposed to take
you to the Promised Land. You gotta protect him. You
gotta go offensive tackle Finley thirty seconds or less. You
in that same boat. Get your pack twelve brethren out there.
(01:20:57):
Do the Bengals fans do they want to win or
they want to be flashy? Sometimes I think fans sacrifice
waits to be flashy, but you gotta win, right, so
you gotta go offensive line. You gotta go with sewel

y Brian Finley on Twitter and Vincent close in tonight
to be close thirteen. We are merely merely the pregame
show to Andy Ferman and Brian No coming up next.
My man Andy Firman starts to tweet storm about the
final hour. He's ready to go, so are we now?
In this hour? In this hour, I'm gonna carve out
(01:22:03):
a little time to talk some NBA. Now. The unfortunate
thing for the NBA is that it's totally been lost
in the shuffle right now. I mean, honestly, there's some
there's some cool stories going on in the NBA, but
for the most part, it's been overshadowed by NFL Draft talk.
(01:22:25):
I think, even to a to a certain extent, you know,
the Lebron tweet this week at least, you know on
out kick and listening to Fox Sports Radio has been
a big story on Clay Show. So for the most part,
what's going on on the court has been completely overshadowed
by other issues. But I will say I've got good
news for Laker fans, which we'll get too coming up
(01:22:47):
in our next second. That's quite a tease, that's a
fifteen minute tease for you. But Laker fans, I think
you're so wanting good news that you'll hang around for it.
What Lebron's coming back nuts out than that magical. But
it's just in something I've noticed with Anthony Davis. By
the way, I'm not reading too much into the fact
that they're better with him off the court right now.
(01:23:08):
I think it takes time. But we'll get to that
coming up in just a bit. And I've talked about
it all night long. Shifting from the NBA to Major
League Baseball. I am just I'm loving what's going on
right now between the Dodgers and the Padres. In fact,
I just I can't get enough of it. I saw
this tweet and it made the point that I feel
like I've been trying to make for two weeks because
(01:23:29):
when I was sitting in last week, we had Dodgers
padre sitting in. This week, we've got Dodgers Padres. It'll
be showcased in the nation tonight on and when I
say the nation, I mean ESPNS in a few more
homes than the MLB network, and it's not a regional
coverage game. But Ian Brown, whom I don't know a
ton about but has covered the Red Sox for a
while since at least two thousand and two, according to
(01:23:50):
his bio, tweeted this, and I think it's dead on.
I don't think I've seen anything like these Dodgers Padres
games for regular season intensity, and Mamma, since the Red
Sox Yankees in OH three and O four. He added,
am I wrong? Well, of course, every Red Sox Twitter
fan I'm sure to reply, Yeah, you're wrong, gave Mookie Betts,
(01:24:13):
and then of course, the always necessary caveat to that
from Red Sox fan, which is, well, I wanted to
sign with us anyway, all right, we had to trade him.
Thank you for that. But again, I'm not here to pick.
I'm not here to point that. I'm here to lay
out what I think is a really good point for
me and Brown. This this is it, y'all, this is what.
This is what we all wanted a sport, right You
(01:24:34):
wanted a rivalry where it's not. And again, I know
the overall series history is a little one sided, but
the Padres and won two of the first to three.
Dodgers need to win tomorrow night to at least split
the series or tonight, and they've been good games. You
want two rivals going at it, playing at the highest level.
That's what any sport wants. I mean, unless you're a
(01:24:57):
fan of the Chiefs, you don't want them running of
shot over everyone. You want them challenged by the Raiders
or the Broncos or the Chargers or I mean a
team that they're gonna play a couple of times a year.
If you're I mean, I'm sure if you're an NFL executive,
you really want the Cowboys to be good, and you
want the Giants to be good, and you want that
series to be a big deal in the NFL. It's
(01:25:20):
just the reality of it. Those are two major markets,
those are two big time tradition lane teams. You want it,
you need it. Baseball's getting that right now. They're putting
all the games where we can't watch them, so we'll
get it tonight. I think it's fantastic. It's even in
the trash talk that's taken place. You know, I I
brought this up an hour one, but I've I've been
(01:25:42):
of the belief that at some point these guys are
gonna throw hands. But I think now it's reached a
point to where both teams are like, Okay, we're really
damn good, and there might be some times where tempers
flair and they're gonna get after each other. And I
know that's a captain abbest thaying from a team that
won the World Series last year, But I mean, ever Bauer,
who seems to be one of the more obvious red
(01:26:03):
asses in baseball, I can say that right. Uh, he
comes out out to the game and talking about Tatis
and his celebration and a little Conor McGregor walk and
the covering one eye, and Bauer wears it. He's like,
hey man, he good, It's good for the game. David
rob Dave Roberts afterwards was even asked about and he
had this to say about how you deal with the
(01:26:27):
I hate to use the term haunting, but the celebration
by time, Trevor is a person that understands, Um, a
lot of guys playing and the kids be kids, and um,
the emotion, the passion and the excitement. And so if
he's going to do that and be okay, then obviously
he's gonna be okay with other players doing that, and
(01:26:49):
you know, and and that's part of it. So I
got no problem with that. Diard Baseball fans would say, okay, Plank,
we get it. You love what's going on right now
with the Dodgers, but how about a little bit of
love for what's going on in the Bay Area. And
I would say, you're right. The one suit of Mullins
has swung on in a groundball on the infield to
the right side. Lowry throws the first for the out
(01:27:09):
and that's thirteen straight for the Oakland A's. Though I
tend to find my attention more geared towards that battle
for five hundred in the National Egue East, Well, the
A's are doing right now, it's fantastic and does that
kind of typifying a season A's fan, It's like you
kind of lose interest because they lose about five or
six games in a row. Then you look up like, oh,
(01:27:30):
they've won sixteen of eighteen, or they've won twelve in
a row. Well, here they are winning thirteen in a row.
But there's my there's my maybe what Chris third baseball
segment tonight? I don't know. Vince closes on five. He
loves this because he's our baseball guru. Did I leave
anything out Vince in the Nationals Nation that I need
to get to here to make you happy and bring
you on board for the rest of the show or
(01:27:50):
now an Now, it's been relatively quiet out there. You
had one Sotos on the I. L. Strasberry is on
the I. L. Corbin hasn't been doing all that great.
But yeah, they'll they'll they'll hit their strides at some
point once everybody's healthy. But from there, I'm just kind
of watching from afar and just being a little bit
sad at times. But the NL East is is going
(01:28:11):
to be fascinating moving forward, because I think realistically, they're
just gonna sit there and beat up on each other,
and it's gonna come down to who won more games
outside of the division to decide who's gonna, you know,
take home the East. I think you're right, there's only
one team, and I'm there's some I can't stand plus
minus in the NBA. I don't know why. I'm just
(01:28:33):
it's like, I mean, how many points do they have there?
And I don't know what. And run differential is kind
of like that with me as well, because you could
blow a team out one game and then get beat
the next two, and really, are you that much of
a better team because your run differential is that high?
I digress. But there's only one team with a positive
run differential in the NL East right now. The that
(01:28:54):
only team is the Miami Marlinson It's plus two. So
it's gonna be a nice rock five in that nationally
Geese the rest of the way. Oh and and I
appreciate how people are now able to look at the
standings in the West and say a star Oakland Athletics
starts with an A shadow Mariner starts with an s oh, look,
Houston h Angels a Texas t I mean, what are
(01:29:17):
we like twelve? What are we doing? Sporting News? Come on,
you're better than that, though I did laugh. All right,
So we've reached our baseball quota, not just for the night,
but for me and I need to wake you up
and get you ready for the rest of the day.
So here we go. I find the games that are
played in the media fascinating when it comes to the
NFL Draft, and I don't I don't mean from the
(01:29:39):
perspective of our takes and our Mike drafts. I just
mean what teams want to get out, what teams allowed
to get out, and how it ends up becoming such
a that's the best way to put this viral moment.
For instance, Jerry Jones this week, whenever the Dallas Cowboys
(01:30:01):
owner was talking about one Kyle Pitts now again, I
think it's fair to say that one common theme leading
up to the draft has been the Dallas Cowboys desire,
maybe more we rewind out a bit Jerry Jones desire
to try to go out and get Kyle Pitts. He
(01:30:24):
is not hiding it at all. And this was a
conversation that he was having with Kyle Pitts. Now, forgive
the music underneath it, but it does kind of make
the clip. I what, I'm excited to have you come
into this league and uh man, what a pair up
we could do with the back Prescott some of those
(01:30:47):
guys that we've got out there of option to get
to the ball, so we can dream of visions of
sugar plumps around here. Now, I think the reality of
this is um there is no way that when the
how Boys draft in this draft on Thursday, that Kyle
Pitts is sitting at ten. And I think for the
(01:31:08):
most part, if you've paid attention to the NFL and
specifically the Cowboys, there's no way that you could probably
sell most people on this team getting better as an
overall team by adding another receiver, especially when you have,
and I'm considering Kyle Pits receiver for the sake of
this conversation, arguably one of the deeper receiving corps in
(01:31:29):
the draft, and you've committed a first round pick to
it last year, and you've committed a lot of money
to Mary Cooper and I think perfect from two guys
that have really covered that five to twelve area in
the draft like you and I have. I only there's
any way that you're getting Kyle Pits unless you're giving
up significant draft capital to move up. So what's the
(01:31:50):
endgame here? Why is Jerry Jones making this such a
public thing about his affinity for Kyle pitch You think, well,
you already hit the word, the only word when it
comes to Jerry public. Public. Yeah, he likes, he likes
the spotlight, he likes having people asking questions. I'm sure
he's in love with Kyle Pitts. He's also probably aware
of what we would cost to move up to get
Kyle Pits and Jerry Jones, as much as we like
(01:32:13):
to make him out as making a lot of splashes,
he doesn't really do that. So he's gonna be standing
pad at twelve and he'll be fine. He'll pick up
someone like a Quiddy pay or some or maybe Jay
Okay or some someone, some other defensive talent that's probably there,
maybe even if Patrick certain if he falls that far.
I don't think he will. But that's all this is.
(01:32:34):
He sees and appreciates what Kyle Pitts is, but I
cannot see them moving up to do this. You think
it might happen, but I just the value would be
too great to to get, even even a phenomenal town
like Kyle Pitts. If you don't see Certain there at ten,
could you see him going to the Lions at seven?
(01:32:57):
Is that what you might be thinking? We know I
the Lion is drafted uh Jeff Okud out of Ohio
State at three last year, and he had a disappointing
rookie year, but he also needed some time to adapt
to the NFL. I think the Lions have too many
needs that a second cornerback, even the talent great like Certain,
it would be too much of a luxury for them.
(01:33:17):
I know we talk a lot about best player available,
but you do have at the top of the draft
plenty of best player available talent that you should be
picking towards your need with some consideration towards your need.
So I could see them taking Certain, especially since they're
you know, defensive coordinator is is a defensive back oriented guy.
But I think they'll have their options still for O
(01:33:39):
line or for a receiving talent. Yeah, I think it.
I think it's by the way, just to quickly rewind you,
Denver actually Detroit and unless they make a trade, and
Denver has been talked about wanting to move up at seven.
You're looking if it goes Pits at four, Sool at five,
and say Jamaar Chase at six. You're then looking at
your pick of of the second best tackle or a
(01:34:00):
receiver or then in that the best defensive player in
this draft, potentially at number seven. So what well, I
I've got lines talk slated for right after the bottom
of the hour because we gotta go all in on
this perfect But I guess I'm curious what Jerry jones
ploy slash play is when he's sitting at ten. You
know Kyle Pitts isn't gonna be there, but you're making
(01:34:21):
it known that you are in love with this dude.
I think Prefet hit it on the head. He likes
the spotlight. Meanwhile, Captain, I'm really breaking down some unknown
things this morning. Someone's driving home from work or driving
home from the club tonight. I was like, man, I
had no idea Jerry Jones loved him some him. I'm
learning stuff tonight. That's sarcasm. So the other interesting team
(01:34:43):
at the quarterback position beyond the first three in the
draft in our long conversation we had last hour about
what Atlanta might do and how the Raiders are always
tied to a quarterback. The other team is what we've
kind of called the basement for any quarterback if they
start to slip. And that's Sobronco. The Broncos are currently
sitting at numbers nine in the draft. They you know,
(01:35:05):
they're going into the season with Drew Lock as their guy,
a new quarterback, our new general manager, and George Patton,
because John Elway has taken on a new role with
the team, he's kind of said, all right, listen, I
really suck at this general manager thing beyond getting Peyton
Manny to come here. And that's maybe a little bit
unfair because that was a pretty good team they put
together and they went out and brought some big time
talent regardless a new general manager. Patton's highly thought of
(01:35:28):
comes from the Vikings organization, and he was asked about
quarterback and where they stand right now. If they want
to go ahead and say, hey, Drew Locks are a
week one starter. Here's what Patton said, I don't know
about week one. We're really high and Drew. I like
seeing Drew here every morning and when I come in.
He's working hard, he's trending in the right direction. As
you know, he has a lot of talent. I think
(01:35:49):
he's becoming a better pro. But we're gonna still look
at the quarterback position. You know, I've I've said since
I got here, we want to bring in competition and
that's the goal, um and we plan on doing that now.
Is that compet Titian at at nine in the first round,
Is that you're moving up to seven with Denver or
maybe even higher to get something? I don't know, because
there's not I mean, there's not much left on the
(01:36:11):
scrap heap of quarterbacks available. I mean everyone's pretty much
found at home, and I don't think there's a trade
looming involving saying Deshaun Watson with everything that's surrounding him.
And oh, by the way, we're two hours and fifteen
minutes into a show and we haven't done our sports
radio contractually obligated segment on DeShawn Watson. But with that said,
(01:36:31):
perfect before we get our first break of our third hour,
don't you feel like that's the team to keep an
eye on whenever it comes to quarterbacks. A lot of
people talk about in New England understandably, so there's been
a little buzz around Philadelphia, not a ton, But when
you're looking at a team that's in a spot to
where you don't drop too far down if indeed you're
wanting to move up a couple of spots, I mean
(01:36:53):
the Broncos suddenly become a very fascinating team to try
to move up to say eight, where the Panthers are,
or are even maybe say seven where the Lions are.
Right now, yeah, I don't see them jumping up. Honestly,
I feel like they're gonna have to jump up higher
now because I think Carolina is already. You know, they
got see them Donald, They're they're not going to be
a threat for a quarterback, so they don't really need
(01:37:14):
to jump them. You might want to jump to Troit
if they're feeling if like maybe Justin Fields is there.
But again, what makes the Denver so interesting is that
they do need a quarterback there. That is their highest need.
And I think everyone knows that if you're not willing
to make a deal with a team in front of them,
you're gonna have to wait and see what they get.
And I think the problem is now is Denver also
(01:37:37):
knows that, so now pressures on them to try to
trade up to and it'll be easier for them to
trade up because again it's only it's only at nine
versus say fifteen or nineteen, which would be for New
England or Washington. I saw one projection that had the
Carolina Panthers trading with the Chicago Bears, and I had
to kind of laugh, because if you're the Panthers and
(01:37:58):
you're moving from where they're sitting in this draft down
to twenty, I mean I I think then you're looking
at a situation where you're giving It's kind of like
the text from earlier about our tweet from earlier about Washington.
I mean, you're moving moving from twenty up to eight.
The Bears are a sad sack team right now, just
because they are so desperate, right I think that front
(01:38:22):
office and coaching staff is so desperate to write this ship,
and yet there is nothing they can do here. There
is something like just like when everyone was writing fantasies
about Russell Wilson going to the Chicago Bears and everyone
and them giving up an obscene amount of picks to
make that happen. I think the any any idea of
(01:38:42):
Chicago trading up would take an obscene amount of picks
to trade up from twenty. And again, maybe they make
it work, maybe maybe pay maybe Paste finds a way
to make it work. I don't see it happening, and
they're just gonna have to be stuck with trying to
figure out a quarterback either at twenty. Maybe they get
lucky and someone's there at twenty, but sounds like it
might have to be a Day two thing, or they're
(01:39:02):
just gonna have to ride out Andy Dalton for a
year and hope they still have jobs. Come Welcome to Chicago.
Mac Jones, who doesn't go in the top four and
drops all the way down, I I don't think that's
gonna happen, but a fascinating conundrum for the Chicago Bears.
All right, we've got more projections. As I mentioned, I've
carved out some time after the bottom of the hour
(01:39:23):
for Prefect to go all in on what his lines
are gonna do. I've got more on how I think
this first round is going to play out, even kind
of a mini top tin mock draft before we get
out of here. But when we come back, we have
not talked about this mess that is the Lakers, and
I'm here to tell you it's all good. We'll explain
next on Fox Sports Radio. We've been all over the
(01:39:45):
NFL Draft tonight here on Fox Sports Radio, and we'll
have the best draft coverage coming up on Thursday, throughout
the first round right here on Fox Sports Radio. Catch
the NFL's the best information man and Jay Glazer, AFT
analyst Bucky Brooks, former number two overall pick, LaVar Arrington,
and Foxes Kevin Burkhard. They'll be live throughout the first
(01:40:07):
round beginning at eight Eastern on Thursday. Pick by pick,
predictions and reaction to all thirty two first round picks.
That's Thursday Night, Eightiestern with Jay Glazer, Bucky Brooks, LaVar Arrington,
and Kevin burke Hard right here on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. Simply search f s R.
I know I have draft issues, by the way, because
(01:40:28):
during the commercial break, I'm sitting here going through a
stupid seven round mock draft, do you know? And I
say this with love because I'm I mean, it's stupid
enough that someone was forced to do it. It's bad
enough that I'm sitting here going through it and getting
triggered by guys that they have in the seventh round.
It's also a fascinating study to think about where we
(01:40:50):
perceived guys heading into the season in college football. I mean,
we're sitting here on a Sunday morning, and we're trying
to figure out what the Niners are gonna do it
numb three. We're gonna talk about, and we're gonna talk
about throughout the week the benefits of Mac Jones over
a Justin Fields or Tray Lance, or the idiocy of
choosing anyone over Trey Lance, or how dare you pass
(01:41:11):
on the upside of a Justin Fields, whatever it might be.
You know, it's just these debates take place. But it's
fascinating to me to kind of think about where guys
were that decided to come back to school or chose
due to injury to come back for another season, and
where we thought they were going to be last year
and where they are. I'll give you three examples right now,
(01:41:33):
real quick. Before we get to Anthony Davis. Number one, Walker,
little offensive lineman from Stanford. You go back to even
the end of the two thousand and nineteen season, and
even though he got hurt, everyone's like Walker Little and
pin A sewel Man there one too, after Trevor Lawrence.
(01:41:54):
Those are the two offensive tackles. Now there's talk that
Walker Little might not go until the third round in
this draft. Marvin Wilson, the defensive tackle out of Florida State,
decided to come back, at least in the projections heading
into last year's NFL Draft. At least in those projections,
(01:42:14):
some thought, oh wow, first round pick. Maybe maybe one
of the first defensive tackles off the board. Now he's
being projection is like a third or fourth round pick.
Oh one more. Dylan Moses, linebacker out of Bama, tore
up as a c L before the start of the
season last year, decided to come back. Some thought that
(01:42:35):
had he just went ahead and declared for the draft
last year, second round pick, now projected as late as
the fourth or fifth round. Here's here's what it means.
And this breaks my heart to say, but if you
have the opportunity and you're projected as a first round
or even as high as as a second round pick,
you gotta first round to slam dunk, you gotta go.
(01:42:57):
But if you're a second or third round pick, and
this comes from the most die hard college guy you
can find on the planet, go go. Because anything that
happens injury wise, anything that happens with any dip in
your production, it's funny. It's funny because if you try
to talk about someone in a draft mindset and say
(01:43:19):
they had a great college career, they want X award?
Why award? They were just awesome? What's the natural reaction
from anyone that that that talks NFL or covers the NFL.
None of that matters, doesn't matter what you do. Nobody
cares about the Heisman. And they're right, I mean they're
they're right. But then if if a guy maybe had
(01:43:40):
an off season, then suddenly, oh Man red Flag had
a bad season last year, Well you just told me
if you had a good season, it doesn't matter. It's
almost like the greatest catch twenty two. But I mean, guy,
I don't know if Marvin Wilson or Dylan Moses, or
at least in this practice or this example, a walker
(01:44:00):
made a bad decision. But as we see here right now,
you're talking about dudes that were projected as first and
second round picks that are now being seen as third
day picks at the earliest. If not maybe for one
of them, at least an undrafted free agent spots. So
kids turn pro when you can. All right, before we
get to Brian Finling, Lakers lost again tonight, and Anthony
(01:44:23):
Davis was not good. In fact, in his first two
games back after not having played since February four, he
has twenty one points in two games combined, and his
shooting is bad. Not even like okay, it's bad. He
hasn't made a three pointer yet. He's okay on the boards,
he's minus big time. Team was infinitely better whenever he
(01:44:46):
was off the court the last couple of nights. But
I'm not freaking out. In fact, I think it's it's
gonna be okay. I want to go back to Game one,
his first game back. Here's what Anthony Davis said in
the post game show about getting back. I mean, I
think I was able to right there, you kind of
get a break. While I was able to get a break,
(01:45:06):
it kind of just reset and I want to get
away from the game. But knowing that I wasn't gona
be playing for a while, I just kind of basically
reset and just use that time to, you know, kind
of go through this summertime that I didn't have because
of the shorter break. We've been doing zoom pressers for
like years. Do you all still not realize that once
(01:45:27):
you ask your question, you zoom your bleeping mike. Anyway,
here here, and here's the other one from the other
night that stood out to me. I felt fine. I mean,
my wind show better than I expected. I got good
looks I missed. You know, I've seen that comfort tim
to've been able to get those games rests. But I
felt good out there. I felt really good. And then
(01:45:47):
from tonight, from from tonight after the Lakers lost a
big lead and got blown out. But what did the
Anthony Davis have to say after tonight? You can keep
fighting or I think we had like twelve games left
before playoffs, so the last to all, I'm gonna be
coaching for us, and you know, we gotta we gotta
get some wins. But this what's upping for us, and
you know Orlando and and DC or our muscle and store.
(01:46:09):
And then one more, one more quick one here, one
more quick one. Felt great, um that the wind was
there the game. I'm starting to get my wind back
more and more. I felt science physically, he was able
to make a couple of shots, even though I shoot
well from the floor out you know, some shots starting
through the last tree though, and things like that. So
every game I'm you know, getting my rhythm back. Four
(01:46:31):
cuts two games. What did you not hear? What did
he not mention once feeling any pain, having any issues.
The only thing he brought up is maybe my wind
isn't where it needs to be. That makes all of us.
But I'm telling you what I know. It's not been
is that proper English. It hasn't been pretty to watch
(01:46:54):
the Lakers play since his returned, But the fact that
he's not hobbling around, the fact that he hasn't had
any ill effects, Lakers are gonna be fine because Lebron
is gonna come back. A d needs to get back.
I'm more concerned about Anthony Davis and m Lebron and
Lebron has a stepped on the court in a minute.
But to me, I'm incredibly optimistic for Laker fans. And
(01:47:14):
some of you might say no because Anthony Davis, who's
a pretty honest dude, hasn't come out and said, man,
it just didn't feel right, something wasn't right. Everything has
been Hey, you know what it felt pretty good, didn't
show any ill effects, So I know the results aren't
on the court where you want them to be, but
they're coming. And the fact that he hasn't had a
relapse or any issues without injury, I think it's huge
(01:47:36):
news if I'm a Laker fan. All Right, when we
come back, it's the time we've carved out to talk
about what happens in number seven in the draft with
our Lions expert, Chris Perfect. But first, b Finley, Brian Finley,
with everything going on in the world of sports, what's Uprian? Hey, Chris? So,
let's begin with the UFC two sixty one showdown where
camera Usmon recaptures the welterweight title by cocking out or

apply all right, prefet I've tried to procrastinate as long
(01:50:37):
as we possibly can because you know, when we get
going on the draft and we start talking about what's
gonna happen at seven, we can get a little bit
into we can get a little carried away here. But
what's your gut telling you now? Today? Is is Sunday, Monday, Tuesday?
Was there three or four days away from the draft?
Five days away? What are you thinking? What are you
thinking happens at seven with this new regime in Detroit?
(01:51:00):
I think I think there's four different possibilities. Trade down
is obviously one of the big ones right now, and
I think that would behoove the Lions quite well. After that,
I would say the next possibility, at least for us,
it probably Detroit is an offensive lineman. I don't know
if Sewell will be there, but Rashawn Slater still will
be there, and he could be just not as good
(01:51:21):
as as Pine Sewel, but he is he is good,
He is versatile. He can also play guard as well.
And the Lions have to figure out their right side
or it will be, as you say, whoever has left.
You know, after chases off the board, you have your
pick between DeVonta Smith and and Jalen Waddle, And look
all the Lions receivers right now for Detroit are on
(01:51:43):
these one year deals. Marvin Jones has left, Kenny Golladay
has gone to the Giants. They do need a receiver
to work with Jared Goff, so I think the first
pick there is going to be something to at least
set the table on the offense, and then they'll deal
with upgrading their defense, which doesn't need some upgrades. But
(01:52:03):
I think most of that value what they're looking for,
being an interior tackle, safety or linebacker, probably comes more
on Day two, unless again they trade down, and then
it's you know, if you can get j Okay, go
for it. I gotta say the most I guess hopeful
result comes to me from Peter Schrager's mock draft. Now,
I don't know, did you get a chance to look
(01:52:26):
at this yet. It's it's a couple of days old,
but his his theory has the lines trading from seven
to sixteen with the Arizona Cardinals, with the Cardinals trying
to move up to get either Jalen Waddle or Davante Smith,
but yet at sixteen to move down to get more picks,
you guys would still end up with Christian daries, which
(01:52:48):
I think you and I both agree. I mean, between
Pinay Sewel, rashaunse Later and Christian Darrisaw, you feel good.
You want Pina Suel, You feel really good with the
kid out Northwestern. Did you get Darrisaw? You feel pretty
good about that, especially if you traded down and you
still end up with them. Yeah. I would say Dery
Saw and Elijah vera tucker out of here probably the
(01:53:09):
tier two for offensive lineman this draft after Slater and Sewell,
uh not missing out on too much. And again I
think there'll be some good offensive lineman still in Day two,
certainly not at these guys levels, but you have options
and that that's the one good thing about the top
half this draft is if you are a team like
Detroit you want to trade down, You're gonna still find
some flexibility. It's just a matter if you can't trade.
(01:53:32):
I would not be comfortable trading past uh sixteen there
because again I think there is a bit of value
proposition that drops off pretty well after sixteen. And look,
the Lions do need to start stocking future draft picks
because I think they're going to put together a massive
package in either two or three to get the quarterback
(01:53:53):
that will eventually replace Jared Goff unless Jared Goff just
knocks it out of the park this year. At a
couple of I think that's a great point. It's what's
your future look like at that position. It's it's kind
of unknown unless go Off goes out in careers. A
couple of quick notes at the receiver position. I know
this sounds like crazy talk because the dude won the
(01:54:14):
Heisman Trophy, but I think the first three pass catchers
off the board are going to be Kyle Pitts, followed
by Jamaar Chase, and I think it's gonna be Jalen Waddle. Yeah.
I just it's hard to ignore the size concerns when
it comes to Smith and and he hasn't run, you know.
I I if the size concerns were there with Henry Ruggs, boy,
(01:54:37):
I wish we would have seen them. But he ran,
and he ran a four to nine forty and we've
seen now he addressed his size concerns. We'll see how
much better he is. But size concerns with Smith and
speed concerns. I know Waddles coming off an injury, but
I think he's gonna go before him one thing though,
I believe at the receiver position, and you you touched
(01:54:58):
on this a little bit, Chris, I think there is
a lot of receiver talent available. In fact, I think
you could have sixteen to seventeen guys go in the
first three to early fourth rounds. I was looking at
Dane Brugler's beast before we hit the air, and I
wrote down this note. He's got eighteen seventeen guys. Can't
(01:55:19):
even read my own writing. Seventeen guys with the first
to third round grade. And basically his grades are first,
first to second, second, second, third, third, third or fourth.
He's got seventeen guys in that third round range. And
there's some names maybe you forgot about. Tyland Wallace is
another one that came back to school this year off
an injury that some thought could be a first round pick.
(01:55:39):
He's not projected as a second or third round pick.
Amari Rodgers at times last year was the best receiver
on the field for Clemson. Round del Moore is someone
that people think could sneak into the first round. Eli
Jah Moore out of all miss is someone that can
sneak into first round. So, Chris, if you want to
wait on a receiver, I think you hit it on
the head. There's great depth at that position. You haven't
even gotten to the second guy out of l s
u Terrice Marshal Marshaman out there or Caldarius Tony from Florida. Um,
(01:56:05):
are you missing Overshot Bateman out of Minnesota or too,
Like there are going to be guys there in round two,
maybe even in round three. That that's why I say, like,
if if you're not if it's not Chase, and if
you're not sold on Smith or Wattle, you can wait
like it's it's not the end of the world. And
that's that's also why I feel like if you have
a chance, if you're like again a Cincinnati, you take
(01:56:27):
care of your offensive line first and then you can
go get you know, because again day two, there will
be a Rashod Bateman, or there will be an Elijah
More even like someone like Serat out of out of
wake Forest, Like, there will be options for you at
any point. There are so many good receivers coming out
of college that I know there's some transcendent talent at
(01:56:49):
the top of the draft. But it is not a position.
It's it's not quite like running back, but it is
a position where you have the luxury to wait and
still get some excellent options. Look at some of the
talent that it was picked up later and not even
at the end of the first round, but even in
the second round of last year's draft. I mean, te
Higgins looks the part for the Bengals and he was
(01:57:11):
the thirty third pick. So fascinating conversation when it comes
to what happens with a team like say Detroit that
isn't in this quarterback market right now, but might be
setting themselves up to being that market in either two
or beyond. Good stuff. Chris, all right, we gotta wrap
up the show next. We're done. We're done. No and
Firman are ready to take over next. But we'll have
(01:57:32):
a final thought before we wrap things up. Chris Blanket
for Jason Martin on Fox Sports Radio. Don't listening to
sportso man, what a fun show tonight. I can't believe
we're done. Um, I haven't even given my mock draft yet.
Justin and Cincinnati will be mad at me, but I'm
gonna do it here. I do want to give a
(01:57:54):
big thanks to Chris Perfette who fought through everything tonight.
Everything to keep the show on the air. Also a
great job by Brian Finley on updates. He's sticking He's
sticking around if I can finish the show without puking
and uh, my man, Vincent close. I don't know what happened.
It's like during the break, I thought, what a great
time to have a snack. No, not a great time
(01:58:17):
to have a snack. What are you doing? It's like
five minutes left of the show and I'm sitting here
chowing down on beef jerky, beef jerky at four fifty am.
Don't tell me I'm living right, because I know I'm not. Now,
I want to roll through this before we get out.
I want to give you the way. I think Thursday's
(01:58:38):
first round is going to go one through Tin. I
don't know we have time to get to Tin. Well.
I got like four minutes left to the show, so
let's hustle. First of all, I think we all know
what's happening. At one and two, Trevor Lawrence is going
number one. My man, Arnie Spaniers says, and nine wins
or it's a failure, okay, Artie, but Lawrence one? Are
(01:58:58):
we I mean, are we in agreement? That that Zack
Wilson is going number two. I mean, I think we
we we might not agree with it. It seems inevitable, right,
it just doesn't there. I think there's some questions to
Zack Wilson that we've just kind of but I think
at this point he's concernsus. Number two is what the Jets.
I think so too, so Zach Wilson it too. I
(01:59:20):
think Justin Fields is going three. I really do so.
To me, that's gonna drop Mac Jones. And now I'm
not sitting here trying to tell you trades or what
might happen, but I think at three you're going to
have Justin Fields now because I am adamantly against trying
to project trades. I do think someone will then move
(01:59:43):
up to try to get trade lands. Maybe it's mac Jones,
I don't know, but the Falcons at four in the
world of Chris Plank would then draft Kyle Pitts. And yes,
Falcon fans will lose their minds because they'll pass on
trade land. Or what a great troll it would be
if Atlanta drafting mac Jones, right, would that be the
(02:00:07):
greatest troll ever? Falcon fans, for the most part can't
stand Matt Ryan, but you would draft Matt Ryan two
point all. I'm here for him. So I've got fields going,
three pits going for I think we all agree that
the best move for the Bengals at five would be
to build the offensive line. Go get your Pinna soil
at five, it's six, give me Jamaar Chase. I'll take
(02:00:27):
Jamar Chase at six. At seven, with the way that
plays out, I mean, what would you do? Would you
go offensive lineman there at seven for the Detroit Lions?
Would you go with Rashawn Slater at seven if he's there, Chris,
I think that's the way to get Yeah, I think
i would. Actually, I'll pimp out my friend Ryan Matthews Detroit.
He wrote, We're we're doing these series. I have a
(02:00:48):
pinas Soul article coming in the next couple of days.
We're doing a series called why the Lion should take
X with the seventh pick. And Ryan made a great
case to Rashaan Slater. So find out I'm prior to
Detroit why the Detroit Lions should draft Rashawn Slater. He'll
He'll make my argument for you. So I've got I've
got Chase going to the Dolphins. I've got Slater going
(02:01:09):
to the Lions at seven. At eight, that's where Trey
Lance goes Carolina, who has already brought in Sam Donald.
We don't know about the future of Donald in Carolina,
but you have a guy that you can groom, you
have an incredible upside. You get him an eight at nine,
and the Broncos are having a great debate. Do we
(02:01:31):
go with an offensive lineman is short things up? Do
we get the best defensive player on the board, or
do we get a quarterback? Welcome to Denver mac Jones
who goes at number nine. The Cowboys end up with
Patrick Sir Tan in the top ten, and then things
get crazy at eleven because I think Quitty pay is
going to the New York Giants. So there's a quick
(02:01:52):
little snapshot of what I think is gonna happen on
Thursday now. Bottom line, more than anything else, we don't
know what's gonna happen at three because if mac Joe
it goes at three, lookout. I think you're gonna see
teams tripping over themselves to move up to number four.
But you know what, we'll be here to break it
down for you all week Long on Fox Sports Radio.
Don't forget Brian no Andy from coming up next. I'm
(02:02:13):
