Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Well, at least we
know what it's gonna look like. We've been waiting around.
We knew the opponents, we knew the matchups. Now we
know when it's going to happen, and we will get
into all of that here over the next three hours
on Fox Sports Radio. He is Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knocks.
This is FSR. You can hang out with us on

(00:22):
the I Heart Radio app. You can find us on
hundreds of Fox Sports Radio affiliates and wherever you are
taking part in the program. We appreciate you doing so,
making us a part of your Saturday as we take
you all the way up until eight pm Eastern time,
five o'clock Pacific. And Bucky Brooks, we knew who was
playing who man, We knew how this was gonna go

(00:43):
down when the upcoming NFL season was going to take place.
But now we've got our full schedule out and we
have got all sorts of who's gonna win, who's gonna lose, wins,
a rookie quarterback in the start, so on and so forth.
The NFL feels like it gave us a gift. Although
it's months away from actually beginning. Yeah, but you know
we love this, man, we love this part of it.

(01:04):
Like the NFL has kind of got it mastered, like
they're marketing planning in terms of how they keep us,
I mean engage each and every month with some kind
of event. Is the draft, combine, schedule release next up
for like mini camps and getting ready for training camp.
It just never ends. And so the schedule release to
me is hilarious in terms of how how passionate we

(01:27):
get about it because we already know the opponents. The
only thing we don't know is when you're going to
play in certain dates. And so look, man, it's another
the fact you did a three hour show on the
schedule release. I mean it is uh, look it. I
don't know what was it like back because I'm trying
to think back to when schedules came out, when when

(01:48):
the NFL dropped there, and I okay, I only know
this from this was back before I was in sports
radio buddies and I when I was in like early twenties,
we would try and identify a different city each year
that we wanted to go to, so you know, whether
it was Chicago or Miami or Seattle. We would identify
a game and go, all right, we want to go
to that game. We'd wait until the schedule came out,

(02:10):
and then we we'd find the weekend that we want
to go because it was a great quick trip because
you could go on a Saturday, you could fly out
Saturday morning, you could party in town on Saturday night,
go to the game on Sunday, and you're back home
on Monday. So it's the easiest. You really only have
to miss one day of work if you're working on
Monday through Friday nine to five. And so I don't
remember there being a big production about it. I don't

(02:32):
remember it being that big of a deal when you
were playing was it wasn't anything like this. Did you
even like, how did you even find out who you're
who you were playing for in a given year? Yeah,
I'm like, I can't even recall how we used to
do it. And I was thinking about that the other day.
I don't just tell us, tell us he's a schedule.

(02:53):
I don't. Yeah, I don't know, because it obviously me
and nineties, it was before the schedule release was a
big deal. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe, I mean, yeah, yeah,
it's almost like they printed it out. The team issued
everybody a magnet to start out the year, and then
you put it on the fridge, and that's how you

(03:14):
knew you played. And just to see where it's gone from.
I mean, and the slow leaks as well too. They'll
release like the Week one schedule, and then they'll they'll
give you a couple of primetime games and then they
just let it all flow, and then we go through
and we mix and max and we pick you know
which one is which and so and and look the

(03:34):
fact that we're going to open up with Tampa and Dallas.
I mean, you talk about a home run like that,
that's gonna be one of the biggest ratings bonanza. That
and Patriots Bucks in Week four, I think you're going
to be the two of the top five highest rated
games in NFL history regular season games. I've called my
shot right now. Absolutely, And tell me, aren't you aren't

(03:55):
rooting a little bit for Bill Belichick to get a
little revenge, Just just a little would be okay, because
I feel like people are trying to completely give all
of his accomplishments to Tom Brady, and I think that's unfair.
No coach would listen we're just talking about the schedule.
We're not here to We're not here to ruffle feathers.
We're just here talking about the schedule, trying to have
a good time as we as we break down the

(04:16):
NFL and the season to come. So now, if you're
if you're a player, all right now, I have heard
this on good authority from former players to where they say,
there's a couple of things you look at when the
schedule comes out. For you, Bucky Brooks, when the schedule
came out, what did you look at? The first thing
I look at is win other bye weeks. The reason
and the reason why. You just want to see how

(04:37):
long is the grind before you get a break and
setting it up. Just just understand that's something that I mean,
we just have always done. Then the next thing you're
looking for, when are the prime time games? As a player,
I kind of want to know when I'm be on
national TV, when I'm gonna be when I'm on the
Monday night game, the Sunday night game, and the Thursday
night game. Just just like to know so everyone can see.

(05:00):
And then from a team perspective, when are we playing
the divisional games? Everyone builds your team to win the division.
That's the easiest way. It guarantees you're taken to get
into the tournament. So let's see, when are we gonna
play those games that can kind of put us into
the tournament? All right? Let me ask you from a
player's standpoint, because this is what the nerds like myself

(05:20):
and media members and fans do. We go through the
schedule and we start doing the wins lost crap, Oh
that's a win, that's a loss that. I mean, we
might do that too, We might, we might play that
game a little bit, all right, but how accurate is it? Like?
How often did you go into a season going that's
a win? That's when? Then you get to week twelve
and you're like, well that didn't play out like I
like I thought I was going to, Like, I mean,

(05:41):
how often does that actually happen that you nail those?
I mean, it's right because you never know because you're
doing this sight unseen, like you haven't seen the other team.
You don't know what the new additions look like. But
I mean there there's some too. Oh we got them.
Oh no, no, no, no, chalk that up, you know,
and what happened? You talk yourself into looking at me. Man, Look,

(06:04):
we were okay, maybe we tweven four. We're good all
the time, and you're always rounding up right, like you
know nine and seven. We'll just call tenan six to
be safe. Yeah, we're just gonna call tenan ted is
six to be safe. Yeah. I uh. I've wondered about
that from from a player's standpoint, because if you're looking

(06:26):
ahead to a like when did you know? All right?
And this is and I feel like I'm interviewing you,
but I'm fascinated by this because I've been looking at
it from one angle my entire life. When did you
know or did you have a feeling based on a
schedule that came out that you were absolutely screwed? Just
based on this locker room and the guys we got here,
this isn't gonna go well, Like did you ever get

(06:47):
one of those to where you're like, oh my god,
they really did a sturdy here and we've got to
go three straight road games. We've got a short week here,
Like like, when did you feel like you guys were
up against it? Um? I mean, there's certain times i'mna
be honest with I was fortunate in terms of always
being around like real good teams. Buffalo was coming off

(07:08):
Super bowls, Green Bay was a Super Bowl contended when
I was there, Jacksonville, I wasn't there at the beginning
the next year, we felt okay. Can said like, you
always are optimistic. So I've always been around situations where
we felt good about it. But there have certainly been
times where you look at the schedule in season and
the team is struggling, you like, might be, might be,

(07:31):
might be a minute before we see you. If we're
two and four now, we're gonna be at by the bye.
This is the healthiest we've been and it still looks
like this. I don't know. I don't know. Yeh see,
we can play hard. I mean. And I'm also looking
just at the week one schedule and I'm thinking to myself,

(07:51):
all right, based on where we're at now, what's going
to change the most? I got this weird feeling, and
I got this funny feeling Justin Fields is going to
be on the field for the Bears. I got this
funny feeling that he's going to be be there for
the opener in Sunday on Sunday Night football in primetime.
I get there against the Rams, I just get this

(08:12):
sneaky suspicion. They're not going to be able to to,
you know, unwrap the present. They're not going to be
able to take the new bike out that they got
for Christmas for a spin, and they're going to throw
them out their Week one primetime against the Rams. I
got a weird feeling, Bucky. I think this is gonna
this is gonna be a sped up in a hurry.
They can play the whole it's gonna be two thousand
seventeen game all they want. But national TV. If you

(08:33):
come out and you're getting blow torch by the Rams,
if it's not Week one, it's gonna be Week two.
I think that's a real possibility in Chicago. I really
do week to me too. I'm thinking thinking right out
the gate it happens. You think, oh, right out the gate,
why what are we wasting? Why are we wasting time? Like?
What are we doing? So? So you would go justin
Fields week one to get the Rams right away, Jesus,

(08:56):
right now, let's go against that fields and rhyme time.
We don't even know who they like, different coordinator, we
don't know. Nah, let's go, let's get ready. We wait no,
a man, you gotta let him out of the box.
You can't just keep the toy got let it out.
Let him out. Look, I know, I know you don't
want to get a scuffed to scart up, but every

(09:17):
now and then, like sometimes things happen, we gotta get
him going. Yeah. I've wondered about this um because the
Russell Wilson Matt Flinn thing, Like when when when Russell
Wilson was drafted and they signed Matt Flinn, Seattle did
to that big contract. I've wondered how soon into training
camp or rookie O T A S or whatever whatever
you want to talk about, how soon into training camp

(09:38):
did Seattle no, oh, we better make a move here,
like like this is this isn't gonna go the way
people think it's gonna go. And we also saw this
look with with Carson Wentz, and we saw it with
Sam Bradford. We talked to Adam Catherin about it last week.
Like the idea that that teams are just going to
pick and choose when these players are gonna start or
when these when all of this is happening, I just

(10:00):
I think circumstances are going to dictate decisions especially when
you got a coach on the hot seat and I
just get this funny suspicion they get Matt Naggy could
say all he wants about we want to wait, we
gotta plan, we want to wait to put him in.
We know he's the quarterback of the future, but we
believe in Andy Dalton. I just this feels to me
like there's gonna be a move made early, especially if

(10:20):
he goes out there and there's just a drastic difference
physically between him and Andy Dalton. Yeah. I mean, look,
a lot of it is only Andy Dalt and Andy
Dalton goes out in preseason one of those preseason games
and his limited action throws two or three interceptions. He
just feels ready because it is gonna be like That's
the thing with and John. He has a very small

(10:42):
margin for air, so he just has to be if
he plays like he played the Super Bowl years but
he falls short, Yeah, yeah, I just I'm waiting to
see how that plays out. But but it'll be interesting
to watch. We've gotten months and months of content and
content and months and months of conversation when it comes

(11:03):
to the NFL and the s schedule. Also, we got
the Preakness coming up later on, we are going to
do a live draw in the air. I'm telling you
guys this right now, lead to lab I need you
to groove this race as we pick our our make
our picks here on the air later on. Because I
want the horse that was on the gas. I want
the horse that was taking the illegal stuff in the derby.

(11:24):
That's who I want. And I don't think that's I
on't think that's unreasonable to ask Lee, can you like,
can you can you fold it? I thought that stuff
was illegal because someone decided to take a leak in
the in the in the stable and when they took
the league, like the horse accidentally eight andy, they couldn't
get up. Thought it was something like that. By the way,

(11:44):
talk about throwing your horse under the bus, Like instead
of just saying he took something illegal, you just let
everybody know he may have eaten urine a bad batch.
Like It's like, instead of telling it's people a my
buddy had a little bit too much to drink, you
just point on how he wet his pants, like there
there's a way to do this so we don't have
to be rude about it. So now the horse has

(12:04):
got to go around and and and the other horses
are mocking him because it's terrible. It's a terrible way
to go about things, all right, Jonas Stocks, Bucky Brooks
here Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next though there is
um there's an outrage happening in the NFL that is
near and dear to Bucky Brooks's heart, I actually can't believe.

(12:26):
I can't believe that this is a story. But we
will get into all of that and we'll have it
for you next year on fs are. He is Bucky Brooks,
I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can
hang out with us. Is always on the I Heart
Radio app. Coming up later on in the hour, we
are going to have a a Preakness Picks segment here

(12:51):
on Fox Sports Radio. It is a tradition here on
the show. Every time there's a big horse race, we
blindly make picks and then we see how we do.
So you can play a lot with us here on
Fox Sports Radio. It's like, uh, I don't know virtual's
the right term, but whatever it is, you can listen
along as we make picks and hope that we win.
And all I'm asking for and I don't think it's
too much to ask. I want the horse that took steroids,

(13:13):
that's it. I want the horse that is used to
the gills. That's all I want because I feel like
it would give me a little bit of an advantage.
And I've never won one of these picks. Bucky's won
like four of them. I think I thought I won
last time. I thought I thought my horse was the
one one I thought I I spirit. Okay, you know, okay,
didn't or did you have did you have Mandaloon? Because

(13:34):
if Medina's spirit, if the result is if they rule
that it's that it's nullified, that that they do, they
do this investigation fully and they find out hey he
you know, he tested positive, and it's done. We're good here.
Then it goes to Mandalooon. But I'm trying. I think somebody,
somebody on the show for sure, had Mandaloon. Gascon had
Mandalo Gascon's here today. All right, Well, tough balls. Sorry, Dave,

(13:58):
don't show up. Hey, you don't show up, you don't
show up, don't don't claim you on the lottery. I'm sorry.
You gotta cash on the ticket or else forever hold
your piece so we will uh We will have that
later on. Did you hear about the woman who washed
her lottery ticket? By the way, No, she got the
winning lotto ticket and she she washed the ticket nod like,

(14:20):
had it in her pocket and forgot about it put
in the wash. They're trying to figure out. They're looking
at all the tapes seeing that, you know, verifying that
it was her who bought the ticket. My god, how
much were talking about? Oh my god, twenty six million.
Let's go live to are I have a thought on

(14:41):
this because I played the lottery religiously. Inside a Ralph
overim for the latest Ralph. You're the one about the
producer who ruined the weird world of Ralph by giving
a story out early. There's plenty of listener, Ralph. There's
plenty of weird stories out there. I mean, I mean,
way to go, Lee, Lee to laugh the just busting

(15:02):
the pinata over Ralph's head here and just give us Yeah, unbelievable,
But that's he is. It's very first off, so we
will have to scramble to find another story. But man,
twenty six million dollars and he threw it in the wash.
Good god, that is a That is a miserable existence
after that. Um, alright, So Bucky Brooks, speaking of miserable,

(15:26):
I believe there's a lot of miserable people out there
because I'm seeing that the potential signing of Tim Tebow
by the Jacksonville Jaguars is one of the most outrageously
ridiculous NFL personnel decisions in a long time, and people
are pissed. They're not happy about it. Urban Meyer, the

(15:50):
head coach of the Jaguars. He appeared on the collins
Worth podcast earlier this week and he even talked about
the potential of signing Tim Tebow and where their thoughts
are at. Yeah, we have not signed him. Uh, there's
a thought going around, you know. He Uh, he was
in the best shape of his life. Asked to see
if he can work out with a couple of our coaches.
I wasn't even there, and they came back to me

(16:12):
and said, wow, this guy is in an incredible shape.
And I said, then I went another time and watched him,
try him out, and they said, go work on these things.
He comes back later, they try him out again. I'm
not there and they come in and they said, wow,
you know, this guy's ball skills he's a great athlete.
He looks like he's eighteen years old, about twenty whatever.
He is thirty three. And I said, guys, you don't

(16:34):
understand now this guy is. You know, he's the most
competitive maniac you're ever gonna talk to. And let's give
it a shot. And I have not decided if we're
gonna do that or not yet. I'm getting close. I
gotta make a decision there pretty soon. All right. So
that was Jack's head coach Urban Meyer on the potential
of signing Tim Tebow. Um. I don't get the outrage.

(16:54):
I don't know why this is an issue. I don't
know what the problem is. I mean, there's no there's
not even a gar t he's going to make the team.
Like but because he's trying out at tight end, all
of a sudden, I'm here and everything from he cut
to the front of the line. He's getting opportunities. Others aren't.
We're sick of it, like people are throwing the religion
thing out there. What am I missing with with the

(17:14):
issue that Tim Tebow wants to try being a tight end.
I don't get it. Okay, So here here here's the
issue with it. Oh um, people are upset because Tim
Tebow has been given I would say, a golden ticket
whenever he wants to cash in the golden ticket. So
Tim Tebow won the Hidsman Trophy. He was the number one,
he was the first round pick. Then Lebroncos doesn't. He

(17:36):
gets moved, Jets, Patriots, Eagles. We see him kind of
bounced around. Then he decides that, hey, you know what, reason,
I think I want to play baseball. Then he goes
and plays baseball even though he didn't played baseball, and
forever he goes to the Mets. He's there for what
four years, five years, trying to find his way there
or whatever. And so now after being away from the game,

(17:56):
maybe like a decade, he decides that, you know what,
I think I'm ready to do what many people asked
him to do, were just to move the tight end.
And so they're upset because now he appears to jump
the line and gets an opportunity potentially to join the
Jaguars as an h back tight end type for his
old coach Erman Meyer. People are upset, but I'm saying

(18:18):
this is something that happens all the time. Yes, we
all have pet cats, we all have guys that if
we move up in the world, we're bringing stuff along
with us. Like say, for instance, I don't know what
would happened, like if we blew up and we became
like these powers in the radio industry, We'll bring iwa,
Sam and Lee with us, because that's what you do.
Or maybe well, I mean, I don't know. You go

(18:40):
back and forth. When I were sampletely for sure, me
for sure, as a pet cat, I would Sam is
like a kitten. We'll see if he come on, he's
a pet. He's the pet tiger that Mike Tyson owned
for a while. But he's the snow leoper Mike Tyson
on for a while. I never know what you're gonna get. Yeah,
So with with all of this, it is one of
those things, and so people are upset. But Jonas, I

(19:04):
gotta tell you, I'm not surprised, but I was surprised
by a reaction when I called one of my guys
about Tim Tebow making the switch. So I have a
friend who has been a long time college and NFL coach,
and I was like, look, man, give me the scoop
on where do you think Tim Tebow could really make
the switch. And he's like, Buck, I think he could

(19:26):
do it. I'm like, get out of here. Man. He's like, look, man,
dude is in great shape. Dude is a quarterback. He
has ball skills. We've seen him running around, he has
toughness and those things like. I don't think it would
be a stretch for him to be able to make it.
I was like, man, are you sure he's like, dude,
we've seen basketball players coming from off the hardwood and

(19:47):
never played and found their way. He said, Now, I
don't expect him to be a Travis Kelsey type, but
he certainly could carve out a role. And then he
point out, Hey, think about Blake Bill, who's the Billdozer
at Oklahoma who then he came up to tighten and
the steel bouncing around playing. He's younger, but it's still
that kind of stuff. I mean, there are other guys

(20:07):
like Logan Thomas, yes for the Washington football team, guy
who I mean, I don't know if he can throw
it from me to you and hit us. But look,
he moved the tight in uh in Buffalo team. Now
he's doing it, and so it's not a stretch. But
just because it's Tim Tebow, people are upset. Look if
he makes it, he makes and if he doesn't cut

(20:28):
him Yeah, I just I thought, I think it's just
some of them. It's almost like people are dusting off
their old two thousand eleven takes on Tebow and going, oh,
he's back in the news. I can throw throw this
old pair of socks on and see how it works nowadays.
Like I just I don't. I don't get it. And
and the betting odds would say when it when it
came out the Tim Tebow is going to potentially or

(20:48):
actually be now is he officially signed because Urban Meyers
saying we haven't signed him yet, but it feels like
he's going to get a try out. And I just
don't see what the problem is. Remember brock Lessner, brock
Lessner was a W was in the WW. We got
tired of the travel schedule and brock Lessner said, you
know what, I haven't played football since high school. I
want to try out. And he and he went to

(21:08):
the Vikings and he tried out, and according to a
lot of people there, he wasn't great, but he did
much better than people thought. And he got all the
way down to the final cuts and he didn't make it.
But you know what, he gave it a shot. I don't.
I don't hear people saying, oh my god, he took
someone else's spot, Oh my god. It's like, man, if
you can't beat if you're an actual tight end and
you can't beat Tim Tebow out for the position, I mean,

(21:31):
are you just rewarded that position because you've been practicing
it longer? I don't get it. Kelvin Benjamin is now
trying out to be a tight end with the Giants.
He's been out of the league since he's never played
the position before. I don't see anybody up in arms
that he's taken somebody else's opportunity there. And why is
he getting that opportunity Because Dave Gettleman drafted him in

(21:52):
Carolina and Dave Gettleman's the GM with the Giants, Bucky.
This happens everywhere in every industry, on every franchise. It
happens all the time. It happens all the time. Kelvin
brand I'm glad you brought it up because I saw that.
I didn't know it's been since twenty since Kevin Benjamin. Wow.
But I mean, he ate his way into the position,
and now you'll see if he can, he can do it.

(22:14):
But once again, it's a situation where David Gueld I'm
in drafted him, I want to say, for the Carolina patheos. Yes,
and so man, guys always reward their guys, give them
favors and stuff like that, and so it's one of
the things that you see, you see happen. But because
it's Tim Tebow man, people have absolutely lost there. It's crazy, man,

(22:37):
It's it's crazy. And like, did you mean, okay, did
you Mey Graham ever played football, even even at a
high school, he never played. I think he played one
year spot duty with the Hurricanes and then got it.
That was it. And I just I don't. I don't
know why. And I get it. They oh, it's it's
Tebow and he's doing and then and then I'm seeing

(22:58):
a lot of people say, oh, well, this makes the
organization look bad. Okay, but what if he comes out
and he actually ends up being like a benefit to
the organization. He actually gets on the field and you
can use him in some spots like like then what
are we saying? Like Urban Meyer's got a relationship with
this guy, He's he's worked with him in the past.
He knows what he's all about, and he and I

(23:19):
also think to for urban Meyer. People can say, well,
this just feels like a gimmicky move man. Like every
coach comes in that that's been a college coach and
try stuff that that worked in college, and sometimes it
works at the pro level, and sometimes it doesn't work,
but you adapt and you figure out, Okay, well these
guys are different. I can't do this like I did here.

(23:40):
But the outrage surrounding it, people upset that God forbid,
Tebow is gonna try and make it, make a make
a run at being a tight end in the NFL.
Why didn't he do this earlier? Because he wasn't ready
for he still look he still thought he could be
a quarterback. He like he he was. He could not
wrap his mind around the idea of okay, why might
actually have to be a tight end or else this

(24:03):
is just not gonna work at the pro level. People
saw him, they realized he couldn't play quarterback in the league,
despite the wins and all that, and so he wouldn't
played baseball. And now he's got an opportunity to play football.
He's like a two year guaranteed contract. It's a try
out and we're getting worked out up about a try out,
and and it's not like he's just walking off the

(24:24):
streets and somebody saw him, you know. I remember it
was I think it was Buffalo. It might have been Buffalo.
But there was a guy a couple of years ago
who went to I think it was Monmouth College in Illinois.
And I remember that because my family is from from
Monmouth College, Monmouth Gaylsburg area in Illinois. It's a small
town western part of the state. And the only reason

(24:46):
this guy got an opportunity is because there were YouTube
videos of him throwing the ball around and he got
a try out. And like I do think this, like
sometimes you just kicked the tires on the Were you
ever a part of a staff that that brought a
guy in because you're like, look, physically, he's really talented.
Maybe we could mold him into something we used to

(25:09):
bring in. I've been a few different places where we
brought track stars in. Guys they were just fast. They
bringing in god, I can't remember right now. I was
in Buffalo. They brought a guy who's a monster in
uh sixty dash. But now you you look, this is
what mini camp and training camp for I mean, you
bring some guys in, guys who've never played, Guys who

(25:31):
I mean are just kind of trying it out. That's
what you do. Look, no harm, no foul. Right, you
bring him in, You let them run around, you see
if they have potential. And now with the expanded practice
squad rosters, I mean, you have an opportunity to it.
So like for Tim Tebow, even if Tim Tebow isn't
good enough to play tighten right out the gate, they
don't have to cut them. They can keep them on

(25:51):
the practice squad because now the practice squad doesn't have
any it doesn't have a cut off time when it
comes to years. You can be a ten year player
on the practice squad. So they have every opportunity to
give him a chance to learn how to play the position.
Even though everyone will say thirty five years old, he
coach Meyer wants or he can be around yeah exactly.

(26:13):
And and the other thing um that that I've seen
thrown out there, it's like, well, man, Trevor Lawrence is
trying to get ready for the season. Man, lasting he
needs to answer questions about is Tim Tebow. Let me
tell you something, if Tim Tebow playing or trying out
for tight end is the make or break as to
whether or not mentally Trevor Lawrence can handle the pressure
of being an NFL quarterback. Maybe he's just not the guy.

(26:35):
Like it's not like he's trying out for quarterback. Like like,
I just like, what are we talking about here? It's
just like all of this doesn't make any sense. I
just think because and to your point, it's Tebow. People
get worked up about it. It's one of those polarizing
names for whatever reason that people want to grasp onto
and just freak out. It just but this whole thing,
this has happened in the NFL for years. Um, Bucky Brooks,

(26:58):
I know you're listen to Tim works like it for you.
We are excited for you. Just make sure make sure
you don't take Gardner Minshew's number. That's all I'm asking, alright,
Just make sure. I mean, look, Gardner Minshew has earned
that numbers. Yeah, he's earned that number. Come on with
that that mustache and that hair and modeling shots took

(27:19):
a few weeks ago. He's doing too much. By the way,
Gardner Minshew looks like a stunt double off the cannonball run.
I can see that you remember the cannonball run standing
there for Burt Reynolds. He loved me some cannonball run. Yeah.
By the way, Burt Reynolds, Hey man, hey, he must

(27:41):
have been he must have been tired. Off screen, I'll
just say that, Sam Sauce of Vitamin absolutely exhausted, all right,
Jonah Stocks, Bucky Brooks here Fox Sports Radio. You can
hang out with us here on the I Heart Radio app.
So we are going to have a spell Sholla Preakness
picks opportunity here. We're going to make picks around the

(28:06):
horse race that is taking place. It sounds kind of goofy,
but it's very competitive. So we will get to that
here uh this hour, but up next here on Fox
Sports Radio and for all the latest from around the
world of sports ladies and gentlemen. He's the most violent
man in sports talk radio and his name is Ralph Irvan.
You gotta bring up Burt Reynolds to so we do.

(28:26):
I guess, so, I guess, so well we bring Louise Louise.
That's all it takes. Sometimes we could have Major League Baseball,
where Oakland has expanded their lead thanks to a Mark
Canna home run in the fifth inning, they leave Minnesota
for one still in the fifth that game is I Meanwhile,

(28:46):
Boston has really hit the scoreboard a three run of
fourth inning and they lead the Angels for nothing just
to l a hit so far in this game as
the Angels bat in the top of the fifth and
two runs for the Cubs in the top of the
third give them a four three leaders. They play at
Detroit that game. In the fourth inning. Earlier, Tampa Bay

(29:07):
hammered the New York Mets five five finals. Already in
the NBA. That's where Phoenix is a one forty one
oh three winner over San Antonio. Seven sons scored in
double figures. Brooklyn won their fourth straight beating Chicago on
The Lakers have won four in a row. They beat
Indiana one fifteen, big overtime win for the Knicks. They

(29:29):
take out Charlotte one eighteen one on nine trying to
get to the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference, and
Boston one oh eight win over Minnesota. One other note
from Major League Baseball is Albert Poohols has signed to
join the l A Dodgers. That gives four former m
vps on the Dodgers roster. We'll send it back now
to our m VPS. It is Jonahs Knocks and Bucky Brooks. Um,

(29:53):
why why did they sign Alberpools? Yeah? I I get,
but I mean, come on now, like what are we
doing here? Like why wouldn't he go Why wouldn't he
go to an A L team? Why not go to
an AL team? But he doesn't want to move because
he wants to play in St. Louis again and they
will in September. He doesn't want to move. But I

(30:15):
thought that St. Louis was signing him. I saw some
report that was out last night that St. Louis was
signing him. Maybe that was just like a fake account.
Instead of it being uh, John Paul Morosi, it was
John Paul Morosey with a Z like like I just
I saw something that he was going to sign with
the Cardinals and like, okay, well at least he's going
back home. Good. But it'll be funny now to see
the Dodger fanboys who are now going to sell everybody

(30:37):
on Albert pool still has something left when they've been
mocking the contract because he was an angel all these years.
That would be funny how that turns around just just saying, um,
By the way, NFL Network has been showing games from
and because I have no life, I've been watching some
of these games. They had the Cowboys Falcons game from
week two on from last year to this day, I

(31:01):
have no idea how Atlanta lost that game. I have
no idea just even rewatching it back, I'm like, wait, wait, wait,
how how did they Dallas wasn't good and Atlanta just
figured out a way to lose that Like that must
have been the couda gras for dan Quinn. That must
have been the Alright, this is it. We need to

(31:22):
let's get some things in order. But this guy is
not gonna last long. I just I have no idea
to this day how Atlanta lost that game. I would
be physically sick, but they're probably used to it based
on the Super Bowl loss. So it just I could
I could not figure that out, all right, Bucky Brooks
Jonas knocks here on Fox Sports Radio. You can hang
out with us as always on the I Heart Radio app.
Coming up next, we're gonna make picks Preakness picks, and

(31:45):
we're gonna see which one of the lucky members of
this show is going to draw the horse that possibly
did steroids. That'll be next year on FSR. Oh my god,
that freaking us. Uh he is Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knocks.

(32:10):
This is Fox Sports Radio. You can hang out with
us as always on the I Heart Radio app coming
up fifteen minutes from now, top of next hours. Some
interesting comments from one quarterback about his former team, so
so an interesting development and we will break that down
here and see whether or not it was a legitimate

(32:32):
trash talk or cause for concern for one team in
the NFL. That'll be coming up here fifteen minutes from
now on fs are Iowa, Sam screaming in my ear
as the music was playing, go ahead? What was the
music playing, Sam? Because we're about to make our prequels picks?
Go ahead? What was the music that was playing? Dark
Horse by Katie Perry? Very good? All right, that is

(32:54):
just great job. Apparently she did not make that melody
herself and got sued for it, but great song, did
she really? Yeah, there was this story a few years
ago or maybe recently is the last year that she
had lifted that melody from another song, But you know what,
her version is better. So Katy Perry's dark Horse right
before we make our picks. Listen, there's a lot of
thieves out there when it comes to music, right, A

(33:15):
lot of thieves. Uh, A lot of people. They love
led Zeppelin, love led I love led Zeppelin. You watch yourself.
Thieves stole from the Yardbirds. Yes, they did say stole
from the Yardbirds. Beck was in the Yardbirds, went to
led Zeppelin. Why were they sued? They were sued by
another band over Stairway to Heaven. And there're some similarities there, yes, Yes, similarities,

(33:38):
a lot of similarities. Yes, blues men they copy other
blues men. I'll just say that it's it's it's very
that's what they made the sound. Yeah, yeah, way to
justify it. By the way, here's the other one. Um So,
Radiohead got piste at who's Lana del Ray? Radio Head

(34:02):
got pissed at Lana del Ray because there was a
lot of similarities between their song um creep and and
one of her songs, and then only to find out
that it was Radiohead who got a lot of heat
from the Hollies because they stole from them. It's just
like the whole the whole thing. It's like this, this
like conveyor belt of thievery and no wonder. Iowa Sam

(34:24):
defends everybody in that in that genre. The music industry
is like going to Costco. All Right, you're gonna get
a lot of samples. All right, you're gonna have a
lot of sampling. Maybe not so much after COVID, but alright,
very good. Alright, sample this alright. So here we go.
It is time to make our picks here the preakn
This is coming up. This is a tradition unlike any
other here on Fox Sports Radio. We're gonna go around

(34:45):
the room. We're going to reach into a giant hat.
It is a giant hat here or someone you know.
It looks like a sack because it's so old. We're
going to reach into this giant sack looking hat, and
we're gonna all draw names, and these will be the
whole horses that we will rely on when they race
at the Preakness in about an hour from now. So Bucky,

(35:06):
go ahead and and reach in and tell me what
you grab there when it comes to the Breakness, here
we go. I'm so excited. Today's my day. Oh keep
me in mind, all right, how about that? Keep me
in mind. That's what I always want people to do.
Keep me in all right, especially after midnight. That that

(35:29):
is always my favorite. Uh and I and I am
undergod authority. That is David Cohen, who is the jockey
on Keep me in mind, by the way, lead the lab.
There are ten horses in this race, correct, alright, so
so so Bucky has gotta keep me in mind. All right,
so lead the lab. Go ahead and make your selection here,
our executive producer on Fox Sports Radio, go ahead. Oh boy,

(35:52):
I got the gas. I got Medina spirit. That is
such b Yes, damn it. I wanted the horse that
took p E d s. Damn it. All right, I
always Sam, Go ahead and make your pick here on
Fox Sports Radio. Okay, I got got some play by

(36:14):
play for God's sakes. I reached into the hat and
grabbed this little slip of paper. Now I'm reading it,
and it says crowded trade at tend to one alright, alright,
so crowded trade. Everybody's got a good horse so far? Alright,
Mr Violence himself, Ralph Irvan Ralph, reach into the sack
and grab a horse. What I want that it's just

(36:40):
you know, trying to help out, saying, you know, I
used to work on a horse. Racing Show, and we talked.
You know, guess what, Jonas, no matter what, you'll probably
end up with a horse on steroids. Just so you know,
I'm good with that. I'm fine. I've got number six
Rombauer at twelve to one. Alright, very good, and so
here we go. Let me guess I'm gonna end up
with the thirty to one horse. Uh. I will reach

(37:03):
in to the sack. Right now, I'm feeling around. I'm
looking for a sharp corner that's going to appeal to me.
I have found that sharp corner, of course. All right,
go ahead, Lee, you do the honors. Of course, every
single time this happens, I get screwedinous picking every single time, Jonas,
you have the number ten concert Tour, Yeah, concert Tour

(37:27):
five to two. There's zero chance concert Tour wins that race,
zero chance whatsoever. And it's a Bob Bafford horse. And
he's not even allowed in the facility, like he's not
like he's not even allowed around the horses now because
everybody thinks he's a he's a giant scumbag and a cheater.
And their words, not mine, all right, So there it is.
That is our picks for the Preakness, and we will

(37:50):
have those results coming up in about an hour from
now on Fox Sports Radio. So there it is, all right,
So Bucky the obviously the schedules come out, we see,
we see who's playing who, we see what's going on.
And then we see Lamar Jackson opening up Allegiance Stadium
in Las Vegas the Monday night game and he's gonna

(38:13):
be at the Raiders. Tickets there are are the lowest
you could The ticket is for that game is eight
hundred dollars plus. I mean, it's crazy the amount of
money people are going to pay to try and get
into these games. At what point I'm not trying to
to to start a fight here, but at what point? Now,
at what point do we start looking around going, you know,

(38:35):
maybe this gruten thing a working. Well, it's gonna be.
It's gonna be a minute because we teen years on
the deal, we say, but I mean it's not, it's
not really working. When we go back and look at
the success that Jack del Rio was having. Jack de
Rio was having more success in so I mean, I
just I understand that, all right, Well, you know, it's

(38:56):
a rebuilding, it takes time, but it wasn't that much
of a rebuild. I mean to take a little time,
but yeah, but I mean, like, you know, they were
claiming they had their franchise quarterback. They claimed they had
their guy. So I just I look at the situation.
I go and I like Gruden. I think Gruten's great
for the NFL. I like Mayok. I loved Mayok on
on NFL Network that he didn't an outstanding job covering

(39:19):
the draft. And I'm not even that down on on
some of their picks, but it's just it feels like
they're just up against it, man, especially in that division,
and god forbid, Denver makes a move and get to
Aaron Rodgers, which is, you know, seems like a long shot.
But man, like, like, where where do they fall in line?
If you've got Mahomes, Rogers and Justin Herbert. I mean,

(39:41):
at what point do we just look at this and go,
maybe it's not gonna work. Maybe they ain't working. I mean,
I mean it's gonna be it's gonna be a tough challenge. One.
Let's just say that that division is really good. I
don't know if they have enough weapons, and they haven't
hit consistently on their draft picks. That's the biggest issue.
Now you're a former Raider, how many of us can
you get into that stadium for free? Come on, Bucky,

(40:07):
literally all right, I will get you a week supply
of Newman receiver gloves, Stadio. I have to dig down deep.
I'll give you different colors, like I'll give you reds,
greens like I'll give you I'll give you the good
ones that you can wear on the sidelines for Granada Hills,
and that's the green. Like I mean, I just want

(40:28):
to get into the stadium. I don't need to be
at the d J booth. I just need to get
in the stadium to Allegiance Stadium. That's all I want
to see. I'm not asking for a lot here, all right,
Bucky Brooks Jonas Knocks FS are coming up next a
quarterback controversy in the NFL. Hello, he is Bucky Brooks,
I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can

(40:48):
listen to the show on the I Heart Radio app.
You can find us on hundreds of Fox Sports Radio
affiliates and wherever you are taking part in the program.
We appreciate you making us part of your Saturday as
we take you all the way up until eight p m.
Eastern time, five o'clock Pacific, right here on Fox Sports Radio,
Bucky Brooks, how the hell were feeling on a Saturday?

(41:08):
My friend? May we feel good? Life is good? All
sorts of NFL conversation, all sorts of NFL content. The NFL,
who just continues to step on the throat of other leagues, decides,
you know what, moving forward, We're just gonna do our
schedule release in May. You know, we're not messing around here.
We're gonna do the schedule release in May. As they

(41:30):
just continue to take hold of the conversation when it
comes to sports, radio, television, sports media in general. So
all sorts of NFL conversation to be had, including curious
comments about a former team by a quarterback, and that
quarterback is Teddy Bridgewater and Teddy Bridgewater UM had some

(41:55):
things to say about his time in Carolina and Um
Teddy Bridgewater was appearing on the All Things Covered podcast
with Patrick Peterson and Brian McFadden, and this is what
he had to say about his time in Carolina as
an organization is things that you know you can do
better as well. But I'll just say this for for

(42:15):
Joe Brady's growth that organization. They'll have to like just
practice different things, you know, and in different ways. Uh.
One of the things we didn't do much of when
I was there. We didn't practice two minutes. Really, we
didn't practice red zone. You didn't practice on Fridays there,
but you walked through like the red you walked through
the red zone stuff and then Saturday you come out

(42:37):
and practice red zone. But you want to get like
fifteen live reps and guys. So that was Teddy Bridgewater
on his time in Carolina about the practice schedule on
how things were done there. Obviously the first year from
Matt Rule, longtime college coach Joe Brady the guy was
the o C and at L s U and um
Joe Burrow had that monster year. So that was uh,

(43:00):
Teddy Bridgewater on the All Things Covered podcast with Patrick
Peterson and Brian McFadden. Now, Matt Rule was said, you know,
disappointed that he felt that way or whatever, he played
it played it cool. Does he have a point though, Like,
does Bridgewater have a point about how things were structured
there in Carolina? He could have a point now without
fully knowing exactly how they practiced what Teddy Bridgewater was

(43:24):
alluding to was a practice schedule that has really become
in vogue since Chim Kelly um had a lot of
success at Oregon and then he implemented it when he
got to the Philadelphia. He was the first time that
he stepped into the league. And what basically Chip Kelly
has done he flips the calendar on his head. So
normally Jonas a practice schedule would be like this. So

(43:44):
Sunday you played the game. Monday you come in and
review the game, little light workout. Tuesday is demandatory player's
day off. Wednesday is like your heavy day. You spent
a lot of time working on first and second down.
You get after, you have pads on, you're doing it.
Thursday is typically your third down day, so you cover
the base stuff, but then you put a really big

(44:06):
emphasis on third down blitz situations. Uh. Friday in a
normal practice schedule is hey, we're gonna do red zone
two minute drill. It may be a little shorter, we
take the pads off, but we're really kind of going
it's it's it's a mental day. We're going fast and
we're getting after and then you finish with a Saturday
walk through. That's about an hour. You're just kind of

(44:27):
going through special teams and everything. What Chip Kelly did
is game is Sunday, Monday's player's day off. Tuesday you
start practicing your heavy stuff. Wednesday is another heavy practice day. Uh,
first and second, now some third down stuff. Thursday is
supposed to be like your Friday, but what they do

(44:47):
is everything. Because you moved up to calendar, you may
not be able to get everything in to have that
Thursday full on practice. So Friday now you're just doing
a walk through and they walk through is a review period,
but it's a they call it no sweat Friday, fast Friday,
whatever you wanna call it. Like you're not, it's just
a taper chill period. And Saturdays your normal practice. Well,

(45:09):
when you're doing what Teddy Bridgewater is talking about, a
we walk through on Friday and Saturday, we get fifteen reps.
By comparison to the other schedule, you would probably yet
thirty red zone reps depending on how you break it down,
because what you would do is the red zone in
NFL is twenty five yards twenty five yard line, so

(45:32):
you get four or five plays from the twenty five
four or five from the twenty fifteen, ten or whatever.
You had all those players up, that's how you get in.
And so Bridgewater is talking about man only fifteen minutes
and we're not doing a two minute situation. It explains
why they struggled in one score games, particularly in the
fourth quarter, because you haven't devoted a lot of repetition
to it. For college coaches, it's a big trick because

(45:55):
the college game normally is not a one score game,
so you don't spend as much time emphasizing those situations
third down, red zone, two minute because the game typically
doesn't fall like that. The NFL game is typically a
one score game, so you spend all of your time
working on situations. That's why Teddy was pointing out they
might need to change that because as college coaches coming up,

(46:17):
they might not have known how much attention you need
to pay to those situations. Wow. Now, so where would
you guess if you had to guess, where would you
say Carolina was last year when it came to red
zone efficiency in the NFL? Where do you think they
ranked if you had to guess based on Bridgewaters comments?
Where do you think they ranked? Two teams? Not not,
not very not high Yeah, they've tried to put a

(46:43):
lot of that on him in two Look, he didn't
play well in the red zone. He didn't I want
to say they had six interceptions um down in the
red area or last minute situation they were went eight
um when they had the ball with a chance to
tie or go a hit to win the game. That
that falls on the quarterback. However, he is saying, I mean,

(47:06):
I can't say that I've got enough time to prepare
to be in those situations based on how we approached it.
Most if it changes, it's an interesting conversation and debate
when we kind of have to figure out what can
the Panthers do to help themselves become a better squad? Well,
I mean, and and look to his to his defense,
I mean, if he's kind of being thrown out there

(47:27):
because look, I'll say this right now, he's a better
quarterback than Sam Donald. I don't I don't want to
hear any Teddy Bridgewater is a better quarterback than Sam Donald.
And if I were Teddy Bridgewater, I'd probably be a
little bit piste off too, because you know, this discussion
came up at some point or another, and that's why
he's bringing it up on this podcast. You know. One
of the things that they addressed with him in their
postseason review after season sit down conversation was, yeah, we

(47:51):
need you to get better in the red zone, and
Teddy Bridgewater is probably thinking, dude, I just got here
and so did you. Guys, why are we not not
practicing it more? Why are we not doing it more?
And he's been at enough places, both at the college
level and at the NFL level to know that's not normal.
He just came from New Orleans, like I, I would
love to know how much time Sean Payton spends on

(48:14):
red zone scoring and and running a red zone because
he came from that, and he's looking at the situation
in Carolina going what are we doing here? So I
don't I don't blame him for going on the pipe.
He wasn't He wasn't mean about it. He was I've
always heard Teddy Bridgewater is a good dude. He didn't
take shots at anybody. He just said, look, I I
feel like, you know, to move forward, they probably want

(48:35):
to look into doing this a little bit more and
adjusting to it. I really don't blame him for saying
what he said. Honestly, I think it makes a lot
of sense just based on the numbers and based on
the fact that where he came from and where those
guys came from, and trying to implement this college style
of practice throughout the course of the week makes sense.
I think here's the important team to know because we
talked about Joe Brady. Joe Brady his first time an

(48:58):
offensive coordinator is with the Carolina Panthers at l s U.
He was the passing game coordinator, but they had an
offensive coordinator that called the plays and did all those things.
So you have to understand, not only is Matt Rule
adjusting to coaching in the National Football League, but you
have Joe Brady adjusting going from college to being able
to coach and the pros and the different game. And

(49:20):
this is first time he's having to uh put together
a practice plan and details and all of those things,
and so it's a little different. And so I think
it can be a situation where a both things can
be true. Teddy Bridge Water could have some sour grapes
while also expressing things that can be done to help

(49:41):
the next guy improved by developing more time to the situation.
I totally agree. And then if you think about it.
On top of that, like, first of all, red zone
like red zone offense. I'm not asking you to rank
the importance, but red zone offense pretty important? Correct, very important? Yeah? Okay,
So if we're in a COVID shortened off season where

(50:03):
you didn't get a lot of reps, and you've got
a guy who just got there, and you've got a
coach who's making his debut from the college level, you've
got Joe Brady who's making his offensive coordinator debut, and
it's in the NFL. To me, you would want to
make sure that you at least were buttoned up on
the most important aspects of the offense. And the fact
that they didn't, I think is a glaring issue. And

(50:26):
Teddy Bridgewater pointing it out. I think he's I think
he's spot on, man, And I'm surprised that that wasn't
done because I would think, man, if we didn't get
a lot of time to work together in the off season,
those practices during the week, those are crucial because you're
getting these like look at Tom Brady in the books,
like look at where they were, and and that was
Tom Brady who was breaking COVID protocols, getting kicked out

(50:48):
of parts and and and walking into the wrong house.
I think that it was uh Byron Leftwitch's house and
still they struggled. Like Brady said it this week, He's like, man,
I didn't know the offense from majority, Like there were
a lot of the terminology. It was like speaking a
different language. What what do you think, Teddy Bridgewater is
going through in a new place with with a college

(51:08):
coach and a college quote unquote offensive coordinator making his debut,
and you're not practicing that part of the of the offense.
Like I just I think it makes a lot of sense, man,
I really do. And curious see how they adjust. Yeah,
to be interesting to see how they adjust. I'm sure
they'll take some of it. I think as a as
a coach, what you're always doing, you right down to
a list of things that you want to work on.

(51:30):
I'm sure based on the numbers that you said they
were and red zone efficiency a season ago, uh they
were owing eight in last game, last minute situations where
they could tie or win the game. Uh. You can
expect that those things will be worked on. Because whatever
you struggle with the previous year, you to vote a
lot of time to get into that stuff. Correct, I

(51:51):
think there'll be a much better outfit, a better prepared
team going forward. Yeah, and and you mentioned so the
Chip Kelly practice and and his sort of how he implemented.
From my understanding, so I had heard a story that
Belichick was so fascinated by the approach that he actually
flew to Oregon to watch the practice that that he

(52:12):
wanted to see sort of what were you doing? What
like Chip Kelly's idea of practice? What is it? Is
it all about speed? Is? Because I know you mentioned
on NFL dot com and you and you put together
a great article on it where it was all about
just sort of you know, sports science, and how he
how he looked at things differently, like what was Chip
cut Like what is his overall philosophy on practice and

(52:33):
how how different is that from you know, other teams
and what they were utilizing before he got there. Okay,
So going on the way back to his time in Oregon,
I would tell you, man, when you go over there
and you walk on the practice field when they blow
the horn to start practice, it is a fire drill.
I mean, it is a bunch of bodies moving fast.

(52:54):
You don't know what's going on. The music blaring, horns buzzing,
everyone is going, go, go, go go. What Chip Kelly
believes in is he's kind of like the Bruce Lee thing, right.
Bruce Lee talks about I fear not the man that
practices ten thousand kicks once. I fear the man that
kicks one practices one kick ten thousand times. So it's
about mastery of repetition. And so his goal and practices

(53:17):
to get anywhere from one fifty to two hundred plays
in a practice. Normal practices you may get sixty seventy
plays in, So you can talk about a guy that's
trying to double that, if not more, because they're going
they coach on the run. They don't stop practice to
coaching correct like you get that on the tape when

(53:38):
you watch it later that afternoon, later that evening or
the next day. And so he wants you to run
the play over and over and over and over and
over again until you can't mess it up. And so
what happens when you go like that, you can if
not you're not careful, you can develop bad habits and
further ingrain those bad habits because they go uncorrected until

(53:59):
you get a chance to watch to tape. But it's
fascinating because if you get it down. And we saw
with Oregon they played fast, they ran a simple menu,
but their tempo and their execution was so flawless that
it didn't matter to putting fifty points on you. And
I want to say that Chip Kelly's debut in Philadelphia
was against Washington. I think it was against Washington. And

(54:19):
I remember because I was actually working on a show
with Artrell Hawkins. Remember, yeah, Andrew Hawkins, you know voice
bill for radio. Literally, if if Artrell Hawkins should should
be doing voice over seriously, like like if he hopped
on the phone with a girl I was dating, I
would I would just break up all right then and

(54:41):
there because it be over like it just like he
has got the best, one of the best voices I've
ever heard. And I remember coming in to do the show.
Him and Andy firmerwar on a show together, and I
was working on that show with him and I asked him,
I said, hey, so because I think Chip Kelly's debut
was a Monday night game. I think it was one
of those double Monday night games. And Artrell was like,
hey man, let me tell you something as a defender

(55:03):
that is a nightmare, especially week one when you when
you're still kind of getting your bearings and you know,
like maybe your cardio and conditioning for a full NFL
game isn't there. He goes, bro, he's all week one
to throw that at a defense that's a problem like
that is a like you got to be in shape,
like like a different kind of shape because you're because

(55:24):
that was different. Nobody else had seen that before. So
I was surprised, um, just seeing how people responded to that,
because you know, ultimately, Chip Kelly, you know, things didn't
work out, But I do think, you know, some of
what he brought into the league, I think is fascinating.
And I've always been curious about schedules and practice schedules
and sort of recovery and all that stuff. So um,

(55:45):
interesting stuff, all right, Bucky Brooks Jonas Knox Here on
Fox Sports Radio, you can listen to. The show is
always on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up next
here on fs ARE, we are going to find out
about a potential blockbuster move in the National Football League.
Where do we stand. We'll have the answers for you
next year at fs ARE. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knocks.

(56:06):
This is Fox Sports Radio. You can listen to the
show on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up later
on in the hour, we are going to have the
Iowa Minute here on Fox Sports Radio. So if you
would like to be a part of a segment which
we've been trying to get rid of for two years,
you can do so later on in the hour here
on FS are I mean you want to talk about disrespect?

(56:28):
Adam Caplan has got specific intro music when he hops
on the air. Adam Kaplan is here are Fox Sports Radio,
NFL Insider Sirius x M NFL Radio, and instead he
gets something from eighties hair metal on the sunset strip?
Is this Ozzy Osbourne? Whatever I mean? Listen, Adam, I

(56:49):
want to apologize one I was wondering about. Here we go,
There we go. Alright, that's what I'm talking about. Sorry,
sorry that we had to had to bring you in
with the hot topics sound. And by the way, that
that music is the original. That is not the retro.
This is not the redo or some bandman backing the notes. No,

(57:10):
that's the original. Lakeside fantastic. We love it. Adam, What's happening.
How's this Saturday? Just a couple of days after the
full release of the NFL schedule. Yeah. Look, the NFL
schedule was interesting. Um. I always love to see who
gets primetime games, and there were some surprises. Um, and
that I was very surprised that the Saints got five.
I didn't see that. You know, that was the thing.

(57:30):
Without Drew Brees, how would the league view it? And
they still get five primetime games? Tying up, there were
ten teams to get five prime time games. And and
then of course the league looks at it. Look, if
your team that doesn't look good on paper, that doesn't
have a national follow and it doesn't have a star quarterback,
you'll probably only get one or two. And by golly,
you've got the Jets, You've got the Panthers who have
only got one Denver, it only got one Detroit. And

(57:53):
that's kind of the way it works. Um. We gotta
get to the uh, the story that everybody's gonna be
tracking for the next seven old months. It's the Aaron
Rodgers situation. Anything new on the Aaron Rodgers front? Do
we have an update? Have you heard anything? Where does
he stand with the Packers right now it's the same.
It's it's nothing's different, um, other than they're signing quarterbacks
because they know that they expect him not to show

(58:15):
up for their mandatory camp in June. That is the
first time that he can be fined is in mid
June if he does not show up for the three
day camp, and then, uh, they have to be ready
for training camp in the event that he doesn't show
up because Jordan Love is going to take all the ones.
It's just a matter of they've got Blake Bortles, and uh,
they're signing another quarterback, which will be three, because you
need three for training camp and then you need you

(58:36):
really in O T A S. When you get going,
you'd like to have three. Most teams will have three.
So they're preparing for it. I mean, this is not
a surprise to them. They've been dealing with Roger's unhappiness
to a high degree since the season ended, and all
their talks with him and visits and then of course, uh,
what's happened in recent weeks. But look, when we get
to August, if he doesn't report, I think something's gonna happen.

(58:58):
They could say all they want on UM and that
they're not going to trade him and all that. It's
easier to say that in May. It's it's harder to
say that when your season is coming about and that's
when you start taking calls. So again, we're only in
May here, but uh, I think it's gonna be very
interesting to see what happens there. You know, this is
interesting because you we talked about the Broncos, this Juwan
James situation. It's too bad where he is injured away

(59:21):
from the facility and the Broncos are now going to
cut him and not necessarily pay him. Is not paying?
Is selling? That happened on Friday? He was released on Friday.
Like what are we to make of that? How is
what kind of impact with this app on the rest
of the league in terms of players and all that
working out or not working out with their team? You know, Bucky,
it's interesting. I'm talking to some agents over the over
the last week. Um, they always encourage the players to

(59:44):
come in most of the time, uh, for the workout money. Now,
if you don't have a workout bonus, that the chances
you're coming in are are are not very high. Because veterans,
if they've been a league a long time. They don't
feel they need to show up. Now, when there's a
new head coach, sometimes they all show up. The players
will just side the Hey, they want to see the
new head coach and so forth. But this week we've
only got the rookie camps. The veterans aren't in. I

(01:00:05):
think you're gonna start seeing some players come in, um,
but I think it will be more workout related. The
guys are making tens of millions of dollars per season.
They're less likely to care about a hunt of grand
for workout onus. UM, but I do think you're gonna
probably see more players coming in in the normal Now,
why the way the the the injury was designated as
a non football injury. Anytime you're way away from the

(01:00:27):
building and you get hurt and there's a you know
you he was designated UM for with a non football injury,
that means you're away from the facility, although um, he wasn't.
He wasn't do anything football wise other than working out.
But um, you know that the Broncos have to do this. No,
but remember he opped it out. Johan James. As you're
talking about Juan James opted out last season. He was

(01:00:50):
going to be their right tackle and then he unfortunately
got hurt towards Achilles and they used their right there
within the rights. Now, I what generally what happen is
players and I to take the sitting down with the age.
They most likely will file grievance to try to get
some of the money back. But the Broncos are within
the rights as I understand it, to cut him under
the non foot football injury designation, which they did. That's

(01:01:11):
exactly how the transaction was made on Friday with his release.
Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider, Sirius x M
NFL Radio joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knox,
Bucky Brooks with the here on FS are um So
Bucky and now we're talking earlier in the hour about
or last hour about the outrage around the potential of
Tim Tebow getting a tryout a tight end. Adam, Adam,

(01:01:35):
I don't get it. I don't understand what's the problem.
He's trying out as a tight end. So is Kelvin Benjamin.
Why is this an issue? Yeah, Kelvin Benjamin is a
guy that has put on a significant amount of weight
as a former first round pick, and he never worked
out for him. He had an a c L injury
years ago, and um, he put too much weight on.
He was out a league for a while. But he's

(01:01:56):
trying out this week. But I don't know. I I
just think it's slow time a year Like had this
been in August, nobody would care. But there's so little
news going on other than rookie camps and a couple
of things the Rogers. We're on Roger's watch obviously a week.
We're week to week with that thing. O. Other than that, Yeah, Um, Now,
by the way, the word that I've gotten, he's not
gonna be a true Tita and he's gonna be more
an h back because he's not big enough. He's on

(01:02:17):
his foot six ft three. He's never had a block
in his life. I mean, how you're gonna Bucky knows, says,
how heck is he gonna learn the thirty four years
old how to block When he's done for I mean,
it's it's a joy. Look, he's not gonna be on
the team this fall. It would be great because I
will be going to Jaguars camp. I'm gonna I'm gonna
have my training camp tour. Back you know I had
done it for eighteen years and didn't have it last year,
but I'm gonna have it this year. I am definitely

(01:02:39):
going to Jacksonville and if he if by a miracle,
he's on. If he's there a training camp, that'll be
fun to see him there. And uh, in Jacksonville, which
is less than ninety minutes from Gainesville. How about that.
I mean, it's look, it's it's it's a big deal.
Another thing that came out of Jaguars camp. Uh, people
are going crazy about Travis anti En lined up outside

(01:02:59):
play some receiver urban Meyer said they want to get
him really well versed in the fundamentals of wire receiver
in a reasoning west the rationale behind behind that. Yeah,
he's a pretty good receiving back. I still him a
little bit surprised because there where they weren't deep and
receiver last year. There they they're in fairly good shape
there and James Robinson's clearly the starter. He was an
unbelievable story. Jaguars told me that they had third and

(01:03:22):
fourth round grades on him, but um, he wasn't drafted
and they signed him and he wound up being a
breakout player for them at running back. Now, now you
have a new coaching staff and over Myers personnel control,
They're just gonna try him out there to see what
he can do, because this will get him on the
field because remember he's a first round pick. Jamie Robinson's
is the clear first and second down back and this
gives them a chance to put to to get E

(01:03:42):
t n on the field. But it's a little bit surprising.
I I had not heard any team was looking at that.
Now again, this is just this is a rookie media camp.
Veterans aren't in here, but that's something we will be
tracking that. That was definitely the of of all the
rookie camp news, so there's not a lot. That was
one of the things that kind of surprised me. Adam Kaplan,
Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider, Sirius x M NFL Radio

(01:04:04):
joining us here on fs are on the schedule release
and and we talked, you know a little bit about
from where you started your NFL career covering the NFL
Adam yet to where it's at now, how the hell
do we get here? Like it? It just it feels
like it gets bigger every single and I love it
because it's yeah, yeah, it's crazy. How do we get here? Well,

(01:04:28):
first of all, you know, they remember it used to
be before the draft, and this year we're having it
in May nearly mid May here, and it's a big
event because they know if you could do it past
the draft, there's more attention on it. I think it's
gonna stay. I think that's gonna happen. And um, look
the the you know, the combine has become big. Obviously,

(01:04:49):
all these events, their events, I mean their events. I mean,
don't forget. We all know who's playing each other. What
we didn't know is when they'll be playing each other,
and that's that's the intrigue. And Bucky probably knows this.
Coaches eight the primetime games because it means they have
to work late and they again have to get in
early the next day. I'd rather the games be at
one Eastern every game. They hate them at night. I mean,
it trusts me that personal people don't like it either,

(01:05:12):
that nobody does, but the fans do and those of
us in the media will have to cover the game.
We're not real happy with it, but uh, I do
like seeing it though, So it's it's a little bit.
There's some intrigue when it's gonna be who's gonna get
those primetime games, you know, Adam and thinking about prime
time games, this schedule comes out, so the preseason is different.
When you've talked the coaches and those things, how did

(01:05:32):
they approach a three game preseason, which is like, it's
I mean, it's significantly different than having four or five
games like you had in the past. Yeah, five would
only be for the Hall of Fame game. But yeah,
so they're gonna have to pick us. We know the
first and fourth games will be where the veterans would
play very little, if not at all. So now they're
gonna have to pick the game where the veterans aren't
gonna play. Are you are you gonna play him in

(01:05:54):
the second game and not the third game because that
would be the last preseason game. It's it's totally different
with the seventeen game season one fewer preseason games. Um,
they have not discussed with me because we haven't got
to that point, but I'm glad you brought this up.
This is actually a pretty interesting dilemma for coaches. And
then the other thing is like if you're a rookie

(01:06:15):
and you're you know, you're a fifth, six or seventh
round pick. You need these reps. So it's there's gonna
be some intrigue in terms of what how teams approach
it with with one last preseason game. It's a very
good question. I'll have an answer for you soon. Alright, So,
Adam Kaplan, before we let you go, we gotta I mean,
we didn't mean to bury the lead here with all
this NFL mambo jumbo. Um your seventy Sixers, congratulations, Adam

(01:06:38):
Kaplan the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. How
are we feeling heading into the playoffs? Are are the
Sixers going to get it done for the city of Philadelphia?
And and I'm assuming they're the Sixer fans would be
able a little bit better than the Eagles fans did
after they want a Super Bowl. I mean putting the
basil on the pole so they don't fly down, or
the horse crap on the ground. You know. Look, I

(01:07:01):
would say this with the Sixers, this is the deepest
team they've had in probably a decade. They're they're legit
nine or ten deep if they want to be. But
you know, in the playoffs they trim the bench to
only probably three guys. The Nets are fun, but they
don't play any defense that they're They've earned that right
that to be the one they They've had their injury issues,
the COVID issues, like all teams have in the NBA. UM,

(01:07:22):
I think they're legit number one. But my my team, though,
to my team to win it all is gonna be
the Clippers. Man. They I'm telling you, they're super deep.
The Clippers are a team that not enough people are
talking about. I love the roster, I really do. Um
Lawrence Frank, the GM and Um Tyler have done a
great job there. But I look I look forward to
seeing a Clipper six or finals, not one that people

(01:07:44):
would have drawn up before the season started. How about that.
Let's listen to Adam. You look at you coloring outside
the lines and talking have been have been forever. There
is the great Adam Kathleen Adam, we appreciate it, man,
Thanks as always for the time. We will do it
again next week and we'll have the music ready when
you're here, we promise you. And you know what, I

(01:08:05):
don't hate iowas as much as I used to know.
Very good Adam Kaplan always good stuff. Get him on

for you here if you've wondered what the Iowa Minute is,
what it's all about, why the big hype stick around.
It is yours. But for all the latest from around
the world of sports ladies and gentlemen, it's Ralph Irvan. Well,

(01:08:47):
thank you very much, Jonas, and we are getting ready
for the Freak Mistakes as it will be running in
the next thirty minutes. But we do have Major League
Baseball going on right now. The Twins getting the scoreboard
on an RBI in it the eighth inning, but they
still trail Oakland for two. That's with two out in
the eighth inning. Boston continues to score Raphael Deever's a

(01:09:08):
home run in the seventh, and the Red Sox lead
the Angels nine. Nothing there now. In the eighth inning
of play. The Cubs and the Tigers just keep going
back and forth. Mc duffie a three run bomb in
the fifth gives Chicago a seven six lead over Detroit.
That game now in the sixth sitting, and they're about
ready to get started. San Francisco playing at Pittsburgh earlier.

(01:09:30):
In the NBA, the Lakers state alive to avoid the
play in game, beating Indiana. That's their fourth straight win.
Brooklyn locked in at number two in the East. They
won their fourth straight over Chicago on the Knicks, solidifying
their position trying to get the fifth spot in the East.
They were overtime winners, beating Charlotte one eight teen one

(01:09:50):
O nine. As for the Hornets, they are now battling
for that eighth ninth spot. Are they're gonna have to
play two games you get into the playoffs or just one.
Austin win over Minnesota, the Celtics locked in at number
seven in the East, and Phoenix they'll be number two
in the NBA, number two in the West. They had
seven players and double figures beating San Antonio one forty

(01:10:12):
one oh three. As we send it back now, it
is Jonas knocks and Brooks thank you, Ralph, we will
be having the Iowa Minute here coming up. We also
there's gonna be a lot going on. It's gonna be
a lot of traffic here at Fox Sports Radio because
we've got the Iowa Minute taking place, and on top
of that, we've also got the Preakness which is being run.

(01:10:34):
So so Iowa, Sam's gonna are you up for the task?
I was Sam being able to juggle a live horse
race and the Iowa Minute at the same time. There's
a lot going on here. I can't really do the
Iowa Minute and keep an eye on the race, but
we can't figure it out. What we can do is
we can cut into the Iowa Minute with Horse Racing
News if we so, we will break into the Iowa
Minute with horse go to break right now so we

(01:10:56):
can get ready for an absolutely jam packed final segment
of this hour. I'm ready, not ready to go to break,
and I'll be like because because because speaking of races,
I do want to bring this up to Bucky Brooks. Um.
I know that DK Metcalf finished last. I get it
a right, he finished last? First of all? What is

(01:11:16):
he six? Three to what we're talking to thirty? Ridiculous
right that he like the fact that he was even
on that track, and and early on you could tell
this is a guy who probably was used to run
in forty yard dashes because he had a great start
and he looked good early on. But my god, man,
even to be at that size, to be that fast, Like,

(01:11:41):
how is I mean, how is Seattle going to take
advantage of this moving forward? That this guy is a
freak show. He's not Willie Galt from back in the day.
And I get all that, but good god, man, if
you're Seattle, how do you not take advantage of this?
I think you have to. I think you have to
figure out a way to to to make it work.
To do it. I think here's what could be um

(01:12:01):
something that the Seattle Shawks add after watching them run
and do those things. The new offensive coordinate the same
waldron comes from l A. The Rams. The Rams are
one of the top teams are running the jet sweet
fly sweet wide receiver in motion takes the handoff from
shotgun or from under center. I think you can see
DK Metcalf get a handful of carriers doing that. You
can use guys who are super fast, not only on

(01:12:22):
vertical routes, but using horizontal things to allow their speed
to separate them from the defense. Okay, what's the fastest
you ran the hundred, because you mentioned then you ran
the forty and like two point five or five, So
like DK Metcalf running Debt was like, that's ridiculous, dude,
Like I understand, and I know, like the track the

(01:12:44):
track lovers of a man, he finished like fifteenth out
of seventeen like this, I understand that, but he's not
running against track stars in the football field. And so man,
you talked about being in a different stratusphere and the visual,
the visual part of it will have a huge impact
because then you see someone that big leg. If you
go back in Western replay, just watch at the end
of the race, right, the guy who's in lane one

(01:13:05):
beside DK Mettcalf inadvertently bumps into DK Metcalf and he
almost bumps himself off the track after like there's a
little guy that's running uside him, he bumps into him
and literally he almost flies on the track. So I
guess that big DK Metcalf and I think it was
Emmanuel Acho whose video I was watching on Twitter and

(01:13:26):
I didn't know at the start of the race, I'm like, well,
which one's DK Metcalf and then they started running. I
was like, Oh, that's him. Yeah, yeah, he's that guy
who's dwarfing the rest of these guys, and you know,
off to a good start and at least, you know,
out there with with like the best in the world.
That was unbelievable. I just to be that fast and
that big, crazy, absolutely crazy Bucky Brooks Jonas Knocks here

(01:13:49):
on Fox Sports Radio. You can listen to the show
on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up next, we've
got the Iowa Minute. If you've never heard it before,
don't go anywhere. It's yours, plus the Preakness results, all
of that yours. Next here on fs ARE. He's Bucky Brooks,
I'm Jonas Knocks. This is Fox Sports Radio. You can

(01:14:10):
listen to this show is always on the i Heart
Radio app. We have got a very crowded a few
minutes here on fs ARE before we end the hour
and we get into our three of the program, because
we have got the Preakness which is going on. We've
also got the Iowa Minute, Bucky, and the Preakness is
set to uh get going here momentarily now lead to lap.

(01:14:33):
You are our Preakness insider? Here? How long until these
horses take off so that we know which one of
us one our pick? When we reach into a hat
and grab a horse out of the hat, which one one?
How long before we know the results? Here? What are
we looking at? Which post time? Post time theoretically is
in the next two minutes, but you know how these

(01:14:54):
things go, could be a few more minutes after that.
However long it takes to get these horses loaded up,
So I'd saying about three, four or five minutes we
will know our winner of the Preakness. So why don't
we do this? Do we want to bang out the
Iowa minute here and then we'll update the listeners and
as to who won this race at the Preakness afterwards.
I mean, do we feel good enough about that? Or

(01:15:15):
is I always say I'm going to freak out? Like,
I mean, everything's gotta be cater, it's gotta be perfect,
My body is ready. You're like the musical act who
needs all the eminem's separated by color. Like it's just
like it's like it's always going to be something more.
You need something more every single time? Like why do
you have to be so picky. That's always been my policy.

(01:15:37):
You know that there's no difference in the taste. Right,
Why do people do that? I don't know, because they're weird,
all right? So he is nervous. He's already stressed out.
But it is time for another edition of this got
a minute heaven like you give a damn now, presenting

(01:16:00):
the most up to date happenings from Iowa's four Division
one teams, Ladies and gentlemen, cowsand pigs. It's the Iowa Minute.
Here's Iowa Sam and away we go, chums. We got
a pretty light Iowa Minute here. It's about as light
as it gets for sports news out of the state
of Iowa. This Iowa Minute is lighter than a new

(01:16:23):
septic tank. You city slickers wouldn't even know what a
septic tank is. By the way, that rural sewer system
joke brought to you by up to the minute Grain prices.
Do you guys know what a septic tank is? H Yeah, yeah,
sure do, let's press on. Yes, good to hear from
you again, Grain prices. The farmers have been out planting

(01:16:46):
and finally getting some rain across the Midwest. It's been
dry and another thing. Just because it's a slim iywa
minute doesn't mean I'm gonna try to fit it into
a single minute. Not possible. Ain't gonna do it, and
we're already past a minute anywhere. Freakness coming up. Okay,
let's get to the real news. Outgoing Iowa tackle Alaric Jackson, who,
along with former Cycling wide receiver Land and Acres, signed

(01:17:08):
free agent deals with the Rams. Alaric Jackson is among
six college football players nominated for the fourth annual John
Cornish Trophy. What the hell has it? Wow? Very vocal
live studio audience here today. Please sit down and be
quiet or you'll be removed. Bucky Jonas, Do you guys
know what the John Cornish Trophy is? It's what they

(01:17:32):
hand out at the Iowa State Fair for whoever eats
the biggest corn dog, Bucky, Anything, All I can think
about is cornishans, So I can't, I can't. I can't
imagine anything else. Pretty poor guest, is there? Guys? The
Cornish Trophy is presented to the best college football player
from Canada. Aleric Jackson is from Windsor but grew up

(01:17:56):
in Detroit. And believe it or not, some big names
on this list. Some big name former Oklahoma State running
back Chuba Hubbard now with Carolina. He went it last year.
And get this, Alabama's third leading receiver last season had
almost a thousand yards for the Crimson Tide. John met
you the third. So some honest talent from our we
the north neighbors. Alright. Some Iowa State News three returning

(01:18:19):
cycle and football players made two four seven sports top
ten in the Big twelve list. Breeze Lightning at number two,
behind Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler, quarterback Brock Purty at six,
and tight end Charlie the Polar Bear Cohler at eight.
And get this. Guy's Iowa State football team posted a
cumulative g p A of three point zero nine. Has

(01:18:43):
the Preakness started yet? No? Um, these are the best
stories I have. Uh yeah, final note, Sam, just just
fire away, man. Let's stop worried about the damn horse race.
Uh listen. Sometimes, when the Iowa Minute stories are few
and far between, I just put whatever the hell I
want in this segment. So last night, quickly, no prinkness yet. Me,

(01:19:06):
the old lady and the dog were at the beach
close to Jonas's neck of the Woods. After the sunset,
we we head into the mean streets of Thousand Oaks,
California for dinner. We land at one spot. Jonas. I
texted him about it and he says, screw that dump.
Come to my brother's bar. It's literally half mile away.
So me, the old lady and the dog we wheel
it on over there for a drink and a slice

(01:19:26):
of cheesecake and the lively environment. Jonas, Yeah, I sent
you a couple of pictures. It was we needed proof
that you were actually at the at the venue, and
you actually were there. And I'm saying, when when, when,
when we're all up for Bucky the the whole show
should head on down there and watch a UFC event
or a boxing event one Saturday night. All right, listen,

(01:19:49):
uh you know all uh, you know, I just I
think it would be a lot of fun. We all
get together and then watch Lee throw up all over himself.
I think that would be fun for everybody involved. And
by Lee, I mean I was Sam, that's probably how
that will go. Well. No, if we we appreciated you
stopped myronuck of the woods there, Sam, if I didn't
have to work the next morning, I probably would have
gotten a little blot out because this the environment was

(01:20:11):
very much conducive to a fun having So oh yeah, yeah, no,
that's that's why it's done. That's how it's done. Sam.
And hey, they haven't even started this race yet and
we're done with the iron minute with secons Ago. So
look look at that. I told you not to stress
out about it. And by the way, knowing our luck,
this race is going to happen while we go to
break like that's like they're loading the horses up for
some reason. These horses have to be a pain in

(01:20:32):
the ass as we're trying to get this race underway.
This this ain't happening. This race is gonna happen after
we I'm just saying right now, Concert Tour, get your
s together, that's all. That's all I'm asking for because
I'm tired of losing these races here live on the air.
So I would like Concert Tour to get it together
here on Fox Sports Radio so we could have ourselves
a winner. That's it, that's all I want um all right.

(01:20:54):
By the way, coming up next here on Fox Sports
Radio Top and next hour in about five minutes from now,
we are going to talk about a position switch, but
not the one you're thinking of in the NFL, and
the races started results next, we've got ourselves a modification,
a position change, but it's not the player you're thinking of,

(01:21:16):
but it's in the same location, and we will get
into that here coming up in just a couple of
moments from now. NFL Conversation is yours here on Fox
Sports Radio. He is Bucky Brooks. I'm Jonas Knox. This
is FSR. You can listen to the show on the
I Heart Radio app. You can find us on hundreds
of Fox Sports Radio affiliates and wherever you are taking

(01:21:36):
part in the program, we appreciate you doing so we're
gonna take you all the way up until eight pm
Eastern time, five o'clock Pacific here on Fox Sports Radio.
And before we jump into this NFL Conversation, Bucky Brooks,
we do have an update here. We all. It is
a tradition here on Fox Sports Radio and we've been
doing this for a couple of years now to where

(01:21:58):
when there's a big horse race and Bucky and I
are on the air, we want to show how well
rounded we are, and so what we do is we
write names of horses on a little piece of paper,
we throw him into a hat or a sack, if
you will, and we reach in and we pull out
a horse, and some of us win these things. Bucky's
won a couple of times. I've never won once. But

(01:22:20):
we did have the Preakness that just went final, and
we do have a winner on the show. Who pulled
a winner from the sack? Iowa, Sam, would you do
the honors please? Who won? And what was the name
of the horse that want at the Preakness? Your Preakness
champion is Ralf Bower, Ralph Bower, pulled by the Great

(01:22:47):
Ralph Irvin himself. Ralph the horse was named after you,
and you won the race. Not quite, It's more a
little bit like but you know that's close enough, all right.
So we just so I always say, I'm just calling
is now calling it Ralph bow very good. I'm done,

(01:23:08):
all right. So there it is all that build up
for a C plus joke here on Fox Sports. But
that's what we do here on the weekends here in FSR. So,
Bucky Brooks, we didn't win. I'm almost certain my horse
finished last, though I don't know myn was. I was
in the back from the jump right out of the gate.
It's just because I'm I'm you see competitive screaming at

(01:23:34):
the horse. Did geet going? Have you ever been to
a horse race? You ever been doing a live horse race? No,
I'm saving. I'm saving, saving myself for the Kentucky oh Man.
Anytime you want to go to Santa Anita, you just
let me know what a blast. It is so much
fun because you're like combining. Like here's what I say

(01:23:54):
about it. Imagine Vegas, a petting zoo and the Swat
Meet all in one location. That's what it's like at
a horse racing event. Because you've got degenerates. Uh, you've
got people that are hoarding tickets who are like it's
it's like the just are there because and then you
gotta you got people that just like to see animals,

(01:24:16):
and you you hang out, you bet on horses. You
have no idea anything about, but you bet two bucks.
You trying. It's it's so much fun, man. Horse racing
is really really fun live. I don't know if it's
the best event to go to alive. A lot of
people would argue the NHL, but nonetheless, horse racing is
a lot of fun. So at some point maybe we'll
get out to a race at some time. UM. Now

(01:24:37):
people are are chiming in via social media, Bucky UM. I,
I don't know why this happens every single time it's
brought up, the Tim Tebow conversation in Jacksonville. There are
people that are losing their mind. There are people that
are calling it a joke, They're calling it a sham.
They're upset. We were we were having the discussion an

(01:24:57):
hour one. Adam Kaplan popped on last Hour and he
talked about the situation and whether or not Tebow could
could make it as a Titan End in jackson Milly
as an officially signed yet but but Tebow is reportedly
going to get a tryout by Urban Meyer and company.
And there's a lot of ways to take this discussion.
So people are not happy with the Urban Meyers or
with the Tim Tebow situation. The other interesting one there

(01:25:22):
that I don't think maybe many people expected was what's
happening with Travis ati En. So Travis Aten was the
second running back off the board. The Jaguars, I believe
moved up to take Travis a t N in the
first round, pick right after Nagy Harris, who went to
Pittsburgh and Travis Atien at the rookie mini camp. He's

(01:25:44):
been seeing some time at wide receiver. What do you
think is this more of urban Meyer and Jacksonville looking
at him and going, hey, man, we wouldn't mind having
a Christian McCaffrey of our own or an Alvin Kamara,
and we feel like that guy could fit the mold
and we could put him in a lot of different
place to have success. That's exactly what they're trying to do.
They're trying to find a way to maximize his talents.

(01:26:05):
Urban Meyer has always taken his best athlete and put
in what he called the h back position. When I
was on the road as a scout, uh encountered him
at the University of Utah, they had a kid, Paris Warren,
who was playing that position. He was running jet sweeps,
flash sweeps, options. They were giving him the ball in
the variety ways and let him have an impact on
the game micros. The Florida Percy Harving is the guy

(01:26:27):
that he uses as that piece. Percy, I want to say,
finish his collegiate career over eighteen hundred rushing yards in
another eighteen hundred receiving yards and so impacting the game. Curtis,
Samuel Paris, Campbell, Braxton Miller, all those guys have played
their role. So what Travis n t n What you're
trying to do is create opportunities for him to touch

(01:26:49):
the ball in a variety of ways where you don't
have to necessarily throw it to him. How can we
have one of our fastest, most dynamic, most impactful offensive
weapons touched the ball more putting him in the back
field something and lett him run it like a running um.
You mentioned Percy Harvin a little over eighteen hundred yards
rushing a little over nineteen hundred yards receiving, So he

(01:27:11):
had over thirty seven hundred yards from scrimmage and he
had thirty two touchdowns. Yeah, so he did pretty good.
He was he was all right. Um did you scout
him coming out person? Yeah? I mean he was dynamic,
he was terrific, was explosive, can make a lot of plays. Tough,
hard nose. He's also from that area I want to

(01:27:32):
say where Allen Iverson and those guys are from, like
Tye Water area. First I think he is from Yeah,
because and the reason I asked that is why didn't
it work? Out more for him in the NFL, Like,
was it just the injuries? Was it just like it
felt like when he was out there he was I

(01:27:54):
want to say he returned to kick for a touchdown
in the Super Bowl. I think the second half of
that game he returned that kid for a touchdown. Yeah. Look,
it's sometimes it's hard for players like that to consistently
have a plan for them to get loose, you know,
like it takes a lot when you're not a traditional
running back or white receiver to figure out how can
you get him enough touches to impact the game. Um

(01:28:19):
coach has to be creative, he has to be persistent.
He has to make sure that like he's front of
mine when it comes to it. And so for Percy,
you just never could get it. And he had to
deal with the migraines and some of those things just
makes it hard. Like so ideally what you would like
to do is major in one position and minor in
another position. It's hard to have a double major in

(01:28:41):
the league. And and so urban Meyer sees the success
he's had with these guys, and he looks at a
guy like Travis a Tan and says, hey, maybe I
could find a role for this guy to play multiple
positions to try and take the load off off Trevor Lawrence.
And and my old thing on the urban Meyer stuff
is this, I know that people maybe don't like urban

(01:29:01):
Meyer for whatever the case. Maybe maybe they don't. He's
there some of the stuff that happened at Ohio State,
or maybe some of the players that were on his
teams at Florida and the Aaron Hernandez and all that stuff,
and they can look at that and go, oh, well,
you know urban Meyer. You know he's he's gonna walk
away when things get tough, or he's gonna, you know,
recruit bad guys and he's gonna have the wrong intentions.
You can say whatever you want. Here's all I hope.

(01:29:23):
I hope he at least gets an opportunity to fail.
And I say that because I don't. I don't want
this to be like Jacksonville struggling eight weeks in and
everybody's calling for jobs. Oh, this isn't working, this isn't working.
He's trying to change an entire culture. They're like, like,
he's trying to change and and make relevant again an

(01:29:43):
entire franchise. Who's who's really struggled. And you know this,
outside of that twenty seventeen year, I mean, what are
we really talking about with the Jaguars. They've been kind
of Nolan void. They've been the team that everybody just
assumed is going to move to to London. Uh, they've
been the team that's got the swimming pools in the
top deck. So he's got a lot on his plate
outside of just I gotta build a good football team,

(01:30:05):
and I hope we give that guy an opportunity to
at least pass or fail instead of just jumping the
gun and saying this isn't working. Uh, the strength coach situation.
He hired a strength coach. This guy had had issues
in his past that didn't work. The tebow idea that
didn't work. I think he's there's gonna be a lot
of trial and air, and I just hope he gets
the wiggle room to be able to do it. That's

(01:30:27):
all I'm saying. Yeah, Look, it's gonna be a lot
of trial and area. I do believe you'll get the
wiggle room. Everyone in Jacksonville is invested in making sure
that this team succeeds or has been given all of
the things that he needs uh, and he will continue
to get those things to look remake a franchise that
has been really irrelevant for the last two years, with
the exception of that Saxonville season. Between Urban Meyer Trevor Lawrence,

(01:30:49):
I think things are looking up in Jacksonville. Let's just
see how it plays out. Yeah. No, I think it's
gonna be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to it.
I don't know what Trevor Lawrence is gonna uh, I
don't look. I don't know if Trevor Lawrence is going
to step in and immediately be an impact quarterback. But
I just feel like in the NFL today, everybody once

(01:31:10):
results right away, like they like there's no room for growth.
We need to see whether or not you're the guy
from day one moving forward. And and Urban Meyer, you
could say whatever you want. Man, everywhere he's been he's
had success. So like we we can point to all
the coaches that have failed from college to the NFL.
Like Nick Saban gets knocked a lot of times for

(01:31:31):
how things didn't work out in the NFL. If you
actually go back and look at those Dolphins teams, they
weren't the worst teams in the world. It's it's not
it's not like they were awful. Yeah, he didn't have
a quarterback and the Drew Brees stuff at all. So
it's not like Saban just didn't work. But I feel
like people look at Saban as a failure and they
assumed that, oh, well, if you're if you're a college

(01:31:52):
guy jumping making the jump to the NFL, that's how
this is gonna go. Saban wasn't all if you can,
to me, if you can coach in in knowledge, if
you're a good enough coach, you should be able to
carry some of that over to the NFL. And I
just wonder if people's dislike for urban Meyer is going
to carry with the narrative when they break down this
Jags team. Like, I just wonder how much of that's

(01:32:12):
going to go on. I mean, some of that is
going to exist because people really really really really really
hate him. They really don't want to see him drive
and succeed. So every one of the things where um
it's me. I mean, it's gonna be one of those
things where he's under the watch why of the media
and they're going to critique every move, every misstep, everything

(01:32:33):
that comes and goes and doesn't necessarily go away, so
that's part of the thing. But I think he is
used to. I think he will welcomes the responsibility and
all that stuff that comes along with it. He's Bucky Brooks.
I'm Jonah knocks is his Fox Sports Radio. You can
hang out with us. Is always on the I Heart
or radio app. Um. By the way, Lee, I I
believe my horse finished either ninth or tenth, but not mistaken.

(01:32:56):
He finished ninth or tenth like that. That's that. That's
That's where I'm at right now when it comes to
us picking horse races on the air, I'm terrible, just
absolutely awful. All right, Um, coming up next year on
fs ARE, we're going to get into, um, a quarterback
situation in the NFL. Is the clock already ticking on
a starting quarterback in the NFL and we're not even

(01:33:18):
close to the season beginning. We'll talk to a former
NFL quarterback turn analyst and we'll have that for you
next year on fs ARE. It feels like video game music.
The hell are we doing here hanging out in an arcade?
He's Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knox. This is Fox Sports Radio,
and you can hang out with us as always on

(01:33:38):
the I Heart Radio app coming up in a little
over ten minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio.
It is the weirdest segment in all of sports radio.
If you do not believe me, stick around ten minutes
from now, we will have the weird world of Ralph
and it's yours here ten minutes on Fox Sports Radio
right now. Though he's always kind enough to join us

(01:33:59):
here on fs ARE every single Saturday, he gives Bruce Gradkowski,
former NFL quarterback, now an analysts for Pro Football Focus.
Excuse me, Bruce, Sorry about that getting choked up here.
We appreciate jabad all with us. Man. What's happening on
your Saturday? Bruce? Well, look, Joan, that's that happens a
lot of times when people introduced me, they get choked up. Man.

(01:34:21):
I just have that impression on everyone. I mean, listen,
I need a drink of water here. I'm all flustered.
But Bruce, it is a It is rookie minicamp time
in the NFL, and I want to ask you, um
if you had any advice to give to these rookie quarterbacks.
Justin Fields talked about his mindset going in wanting to
be the starter. We know the situation with Trey Lance,

(01:34:43):
we know Mac Jones, all of these guys that are
there at rookie minicamp getting ready for their first look
at the NFL. If you could give one piece of
advice to these guys, what would it be. You know, Hey,
it's a process. And I remember getting drafted to Tampa
in two thousands six in the sixth round. I met
with John Gruden right before rookie Minicamp started, and I

(01:35:05):
was fired up, and He's like, look, man, half fun.
Enjoy yourself because everyone helse out here is gonna be
nervous his first time, you know, put on the NFL helmet.
Uh So just have fun with it. So I think,
you know, to give them some advice. It's like, look, man,
have fun and realize it is a process. It's not
gonna happen overnight. And control what you could control. And

(01:35:28):
number one, that's learned in the playbook, right, I mean
before you even step on that field, before you're even
able to get to the season, you need to know
this playbook like the back of your hand. And you
could control that guys. I mean I learned it the
hard way at Toledo. I wasn't grasping the playbook when
I was a true freshman, and then I had I
had to understand that working hard just didn't mean working

(01:35:50):
hard in the weight room and physically and being in shape.
Working hard also meant taking care of my business mentally
as well. And that was learning the playbook, understanding, knowing
what to do, knowing where to go with the football,
and being smart. And once I learned that, it took
my game the whole new level. So when I got
drafted in a sixth round of Tampa, I said, look,

(01:36:11):
I'm gonna be better than I was when I first
got to the University of Toto. I'm gonna know this
playbook inside and out because I can control that. I
can study this, I can learn it and know it.
And you know, look, that's why the door opened for
me to back up Sim Sims my rookie year, and
I started eleven games of rookie when he got hurt
because I was prepared going in. So I think the

(01:36:34):
main key for all these young rookies is understanding it's
a process, but now control what you could control, and
that's learning your playbook first and foremost. You know Bruce,
when I think about this um with all the young
quarterbacks that are stepping onto the field. I know you
talked about the advice, but if I'm a coach, how

(01:36:56):
can I best prepare a guy like Zach Wilson to
start day one? You just have to simplify things. And
by that it doesn't mean you're running like just a
vanilla offense, but it's like simplify what he's looking at
and what you're coaching him to do, because a lot
of young quarterbacks get in troubled because they try to
see and do too much. Right, when you try to

(01:37:18):
see too much, you're gonna be all over the place.
You're gonna play indecisive, You're gonna make bad reads, ma
bad throws, and be inaccurate. And when you're able to
play well, you're trusting what you're seeing, You're trusting your
reads and progressions, and you're playing decisive. A lot of times,
Bucky I always said like it's almost a play decisive

(01:37:38):
than right, you know, And I say that with the
notion that I understand we're gonna be prepared going into
the game. So so when you step up in between
those right white lines, trust yourself, Trust your preparation. But
I'd rather you play more decisive than right. So if
you pick a side, work the side and make it work,
don't doubt yourself in the middle of the play. Just

(01:38:00):
execute that play full blast and go forward, um and execute.
So I think a lot of times these young quarterbacks
get stuck when they're trying to do too much. So
for Zach Wilson entering his first year, it's like, look,
how can they simplify things. How can they make his
read easier, his progressions, understanding where his checkdowns are UM,

(01:38:20):
And I think if if they can do that, uh,
he could play pretty well early on. Bruce Skratkowski, former
NFL quarterback now an analysts for Pro Football Focus, joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio. Bucky Brooks Jonas knocks
with you here on fs are UM. We've been talking
about just the schedule release, how much bigger it's gotten
over the years. We're now doing you know, three hour

(01:38:42):
release shows after the first week comes out and all
of the pomp and circumstance that comes along with it.
You as a quarterback back when you were playing, schedule
comes out as opposed to what the fans look at
and what the media looks at. What's the first thing
you as a quarterback looks at when you release the schedule. Well,
when I was playing join Us, I'll be honest with you,

(01:39:04):
the first thing I looked at is is went our
bye week? Every you know, is the league helping us
out a little bit? Do we only play a couple
of games? And now we're we already have a buyers
and in the middle of the season, you know, and
you know, but I I joke about that, but you
do you kind of wonder when your buys But also

(01:39:26):
those primetime games when you on TV, when are you
in the spotlight? Are you playing on Thanksgiving? Are you
playing on Christmas? You have Thursday night game? Uh, you know,
Monday night, Sunday night. I mean those those are the
exciting times. And then it's like you go through the schedule.
And I was asked this this week, is do you
go through the schedule in markdown? Yeah, that's when oh shoot,

(01:39:47):
that's a lot of that's book as a player. You know,
as a player, you never go through and think you're
gonna lose a game. But I think when I would
go through the schedule, I'd be like, yeah, we got that.
When we got that one. Okay, that one's gonna be
a tough one. Yeah, we got that one. Oh we go,
you know, to Dallas on Thanksgiving. Okay, cool, that's gonna

(01:40:07):
be a fun game. So that's kind of how you
look at the schedule. You know, you're not kind of
writing your record down, but you're looking at your opponents
and you realize you're like, man, this is a tough schedule,
or you're like, yes, this is a favorable schedule. But
you say all that, guys, and look, we're sitting here
in May. You know, we're talking about what's on a

(01:40:27):
piece of paper, and who knows what's going to happen
during the season. That's what I love about it because
there's gonna be a team that explodes on the scene
that we don't expect. There's gonna be a young quarterback
and it might not be a first rounder that explodes
on the scene, uh and takes over. So that's what's
so fun about this and that's why it's you know,
so important to just put the ball down, blow the whistle,

(01:40:50):
and play the game. Universe. I have to have to
run his vidure. I don't know, if you've got a
chance to hear Teddy Bridgewaters comments. But Teddy Bridgewater on
a podcast alluded to the fact that the Carolina Panthers
don't spend a lot of time practicing red zone and
two minute. They're operating off this new schedule where teams
have flipped the walk through, so instead of doing the

(01:41:12):
walk through on Saturday, they do it on Friday. And
so Teddy talked about, a we just kind of walked
through red zone on Friday, then we have about fifteen
live reps on Saturday and call it a day. What
do you think about that, the lack of red zone
reps and two minute work that he was alluding to.

(01:41:32):
With Matt Rule and Joe Brady coming from college, do
you feel like, maybe, if this is true, they missed
the boat in terms of understanding the situational nature of
the NFL. Well the reason why also I true Really
listening to what Bridgewater is saying, I think think of
where he was just that recently. He's with the Saints
and Sean Payte one of the best co offensive coaches

(01:41:55):
in the league, one of the most prepared guys, with
the most prepared guy ever to play play the position,
and Drew Breathe so you talk about their preparation weekend
and week out and how dialed in they are in
situational football. You know, situational football's third down, shortyard, fourth down,

(01:42:15):
red zone. I mean, those are key moments in the game.
And when you talk about the red zone, things happen
faster and windows are tighter because now the field has shrunk,
the defense has less room to cover. So those reps
are imperative to to understand, know what to do, but
more importantly, know how fast you got you have to

(01:42:37):
make a decision that timing and rhythm to a throw.
So I can understand if you have a veteran football
team to kind of maybe ease off the guys, have
a few extra walk throughs, maybe not burn them out
as much. But man, it's so important, um to get
those live reps because man, that that's when, that's when
you know, guys become champions. That's what what is separate

(01:43:00):
separated Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, key downs, key situations, um,
you know, in the red zone and things of that sort.
So I definitely listened to it. You know, you have
to listen and hear what Bridgewater is saying. And I
don't I don't think Bridgewater is saying that to throw
him under the bus, but he's just answering a question
that like, yeah, look, I'm trying to be successful and

(01:43:20):
I'm just being real on you know, how we prepared
over there, And I think Matt Rules a good coach,
Like I'm I'm intrigued with watch how they played this
year and things of that sort. But that that is
a good point he made, um and it makes my
intended antennas go up to say, huh, I'm kind of
looking into this and I want to see how Carolina
plays this year. Bruce Gradkowski joining us here on Fox

(01:43:41):
Sport Tradio. Former NFL quarterback now an analyst for Pro
Football Focus. Let me ask you, Bruce, just on dovetailing
off that who was a coach that you played for,
either college or pro that you look back on and
go that guy, by far and away had the best
practice schedule, Like I felt the most prepared going into
games just based on how he ran things. I mean,

(01:44:03):
I'd have to say it was Jon Gruden. Uh, you know,
and John Gruden was a little over over the top
at times, like I remember during O T A s
and even before O T a s. We're this probably
wasn't even legal. We're out there with we called him
Buck two bandits, And it was like the equipment guys,
the trainers, they're wearing practice jerseys as they're walking through plays.

(01:44:28):
You know, you know, I'm a rookie learning this offense.
We go out to walk through, we go out to
walk through like Mark April, and I'm looking across from
me and our strength coaches, the nose tackle actors, our
head trainers, in our safety as our equipment guy, and
I'm like wow, and they're getting times to look. I mean,

(01:44:50):
I love the fact. Let's think about it, guys, how
fun is it for those coaches, the trainers, the staff
members to be a practice first of all? And uh
but secondly, that's how like paranoid Gruden was Like. He
wanted you to be so prepared as a quarterback. He
wanted you to understand the tendencies, the blitzes that are

(01:45:11):
coming through the NFL. And those reps help me. Man,
those walkers helped me learn the offense. So I was
a rookie, but I always said I wish I would
have played in Gruden's offense later in my career, and
I had a little tasted it when I was with
the Raiders of Paul Hackett, Tom Cable, Um Ted Tolner
those guys is a very similar offense. But Gruden really
had you prepared. You know. Sometimes it was over the

(01:45:33):
over the top, you know, too many plays, but he
really had you prepared. And I appreciated that. You know,
we we we you know, a ton of third down,
red zone and he would just I mean, like, coach
you up on every detail, how it's gonna look in
the audibles that you could check out of it. If
you don't get the proper look, what was it? Bucktooth bandits?
Is that what you call them? Buck two bandits? Okay,

(01:45:57):
I was gonna say, I don't know where you're taking
personal shots at these guys already getting sliced and diced
out there. Unbelievable. Now, you know, Jonas, you probably would
have been a good like middle linebacker, and you probably
would have been like a scout team all like, remember
those guys you were like, just get picked off, guys,
it's it's a walkthrough. You're not even wearing like paths

(01:46:18):
and and they're intercepted the ball and you're like, dude,
it's walkthroughs that would have been fucky for s that
would have been Jonas. You better believe it absolutely everyone.
I know this is different for you because you're a quarterback,
so you guys don't get into the physical part of it.
But the extra game. How would you want coaches to
dial back the practice schedule to make sure that as

(01:46:40):
you enter the playoffs you're at your freshest because this
is a longer grind than we're used to. Yeah, no,
it is, for sure. I mean I think it helps
having you know less, you know, one less preseason game
and you just take care of your guys during the season.
I think nowadays the league is different. I do think
coaches take care of their guys more during the year,

(01:47:00):
and maybe that's Wednesday Thursday is like in the in
the early part of the week, is not grinding them
as hard, letting their bodies recoup and recover from Sunday
Monday whenever they played last and then that can help
them towards the end of the season. So I don't
think it's as much as when you get to the end,
but it's what you're doing throughout the year, and that's
what's imperative for these coaches to to try to take

(01:47:22):
care of the guys early on in the season. Bruce Gradkowski,
before we let you go, what's the plan at the
Gradkowski house? It is a tradition. Every Saturday, you're at
a birthday party. You got some rage you're happening at
the house. There's twenty five kids running around. What's happening
at the Grandkowski house? Well, you know, we're in a
friend's house. You know, there's definitely about twenty six kids

(01:47:43):
running around, and we might go grab some ice cream, so,
you know, just say, hey, just a fun Saturday night
in Jonas. You know, you gotta maybe come to Toledo
one weekend and babysit so you could get a taste
of what's going on around it. Listen, every every week
we talk to you, you're hiding out from some fat
family gathering that's happening. So I just want to make

(01:48:03):
sure that we're not we're not impeding on any of
the good time. So I'm up. I'm up in my
buddies bedroom. His son, he's twelve. I'm looking at all
these gadgets. He had PlayStation. I don't even know what
some of this stuff is. You know that these YouTube gamers. Man,
I kind of got a stir getting hit to all
of it. Yeah, there's a lot of money out there

(01:48:25):
to be had, Bruce. We appreciate it. We'll do it
again next week. Yeah, I have a good weekend. Guy
there he is. He's the best. Bruce Gradkowski. Get him
on Twitter at b Gradkowski five. Always good work for
Pro Football Focus and elsewhere with us here on FS
are Jonas knocks Bucky Brooks of the Year. Coming up
next the weirdest segment in all of sports talk radio.
But for all the latest from around the world of sports,

(01:48:46):
it's Ralph Urban. Well, thank you very much, Jonas. And
the break Mistakes was one and he was picked by
a very smart man. Is the winner of the preak
mistakes and the one that I can't remember who drew him,
but he is great and great man. I don't know,
probably probably not, but he will tell you. Baseball scores,

(01:49:06):
and that's where we start with the Cubs and Tigers.
They're now tied at seven, this game making its way
to the bottom of the a thinning, Detroit getting back
in it on a Miguel Cabrera RBI single in the
seventh inning. Meanwhile, the Giants off to a fast start
to home runs in the first inning. Mauriceo Dubon and
RBI single makes it now four nothing San Francisco as

(01:49:30):
they play at Pittsburgh. The Yankees up three nothing early
at Baltimore, Gary Sanchez and RBI single, scoring Luke Boit
and Aaron Judge. Texas playing at Houston, and the Astros
get two runs on an Alex Bregman two runs single.
That's in the first inning. It's to one Houston over Texas.
Still in the first ning. The Braves off to a

(01:49:52):
fast start, first two runs in the first sitting, then
Freddy Freeman two run homer in the second. They have
a four nothing lead over mill Wakee. Still in the
second inning. There n b A schedule will wrap up
coming up at the top of the hour when the
last game of the day, Miami playing at Milwaukee takes place.
The Lakers staying alive to avoid the playing game. They

(01:50:13):
won their four straight bidding beating Indiana. Next, they need
to win tomorrow at New Orleans, while Portland has to
lose to Denver. We'll see how that plays out, but
first we set it back. It's Jonas knocks and Bucky Brooks.
Thank you. Ralph coming up in we'll call it ten
minutes from now here on fs are there's a rookie

(01:50:35):
in the NFL who had some interesting comments that I
think are probably going to rub some people the wrong way.
We will get to those here ten minutes from now
on up Fox Sports Radio. But right now, though, it's
time for something we occasionally do when Ralph is in
and it's called this All right, Ralph, what do we got? Well,
Jonas this time a year, it's common refraining high school's

(01:50:55):
task teachers for an outdoor class day, you know, especially
seniors counting down the as until their graduation. And of
course with COVID, it's been an unusual year. So when Hendersonville,
North Carolina, are you familiar, Bucky? I am okay, I'm
very familiar. Well, they're just wrapping up the wrestling season,
which usually happens in the winter. And how did the
outgoing senior class want to celebrate? They held their final

(01:51:19):
match outdoors and that is what North Henderson High School did,
defeating Irwin on a matt laid out on the night's
football field, the first time that had ever been done.
Any covering from the sun potentially or anything like that. No, No,
they just you know, they're they're out there bathing in
the in the in the vitamin D. How much like
what is the weather like in May and North Carolina?

(01:51:40):
Bucky is beginning to warm up, but it's not crazy.
Maybe getting close to eighties. Alright, so we're fine that
Let's go live to our I have a thought on
the weather in North Carolina, and let me interject on
Ralph's segment Insider, Iowa, Sanfana, shut your mouth, just go
shut your mouth. I just wanted to point out though
that you know, the University of Iowa and Oaklahoma State

(01:52:01):
had an outdoor wrestling match at Kinnick Stadium a few
years back. They just headed out here high school, Kelly.
They didn't do it before in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The Ralph,
You've been totally disrespected. At least stole a story from
you earlier, and now Iowa Sam just interjected with nonsense
from the state. Just nonsense, had nothing to do with

(01:52:25):
what you were talking to. I apologize. On behalf of
the show, wrestling authorities near Oakland arrested a man driving
at Tesla. That's not an unusual thing. He was driving
across the Bay Bridge. That's not unusual thing. What was
unusual was he was sitting in the backseat, oh, while
he was letting his Tesla do the automatic driving across
Interstate eight. UH. Tesla, which disbanded their public relations department,

(01:52:49):
didn't respond to comment on this situation. But yes, a
motorcycle officer spotted the Tesla confirmed the solo ocupant was
in the back seat and the driver jumped up into
the seat and pulled the car over. The driver, well,
his name I Pam Sharma, says, yeah, I'm gonna do
it again. So what Okay, So so was the guy drunk? No,

(01:53:13):
he's letting he's doing the auto drive feature on the
Tesla and he feels safer in the backseat. Okay, this
is what I understand. And everything I've heard about Tesla's
is there really nice cars? But the man call me
old school, but I'd like to drive. I don't. I
don't want anybody driving me around. And if it's somebody's

(01:53:33):
gonna drive me around, I'd rather be a human being
than some some computer that if there's you know, somebody
forgets to plug something and next thing you know, I'm
veering off the side of the road. That just seems
like a disaster. I don't know how anybody could be
comfortable with that. I'm going to guess the Mr Sharma
is a front runner for an upcoming Darwin Award, and
it's not the way he thinks it is. It's just weird. Man, Like,
could you imagine, like like Philip Rivers had a driver

(01:53:56):
from San Diego to Carson when they were playing at
the soccer stadium, Like, could you imagine if there was
no driver, Philip just you know, hit a button and said, hey,
drive me and let me go ahead and work on
the playbook in the backseat. I would just be I
would be terrified that it's gonna crash. Not interested. Reminds
me of a scene an Anchorman too. Oh, I've got
through his control, going yeah, very good. I know. Joah

(01:54:19):
here trying to increase your social media profile and maybe
one way to get Instagram follows is to just go
to a high school and hand out flyers, because that's
what twenty eight year old Audrey Francis Skinny did yes
years old. She went to American Senior High School in Florida,
North Miami, and well, she just walked around the school,

(01:54:39):
carrying her backpack and a skateboard like she was a
student and handing out flyers with her Instagram account. It's crazy.
I saw this story and and all I could think
of was what is zero? Honest to God? Like, what
are we? What are we doing here? We were like
it's like people are so caught up in their social

(01:54:59):
media yeah that that they just can't wrap their minds
around the idea of hey man, not everybody's gonna have
a check mark, not everybody's going to be a star.
It's okay, Like like we're gonna be okay here, and
everybody wants all of it, like they want all of that,
you know, attention, they want Like I don't have a
blue check mark. I couldn't care less. I hope I
never have a blue check mark. Who cares, Bucky, you're

(01:55:21):
a blue check mark. I know it means a lot
to you. It didn't mean all that much to me,
not as fancy as you. Okay, I like your verified
an official. We don't need that's supposed to be. I mean,
Ralph's verify it. He's got the blue check mark. Yeah,
I think you're confusing me with It's very good, all right,

(01:55:45):
good stuff, Ralph Irvan, the Weird world around successful version.
What's that? We'll see you in next week. All you're
in next week? So gascons flake in two weeks in
a row. Yes, okay. Remember when Sam took off to
go hug trees a couple of weeks ago and Gascon
ripped him apart because he didn't show up. Gascon is
gonna missed two weeks in a row when he comes back.

(01:56:07):
The week he does come back, we're gonna take a
battle axe to him to open shore. Yeah, not not
in anytime soon. He's not flake all right. Um, Jonas
knocks Bucky Brooks here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up
next though some comments made by a rookie in the
NFL that I think are probably gonna rub some people

(01:56:30):
the wrong way. We'll tell you what they are next
here on fs are He's Bucky Brooks, I'm Jonas Knocks.
This is a Fox Sports Radio coming up in a
little over ten minutes from now. It is Brian No
and E from Salam. They will be taking over the
airwaves here at Fox Sports Radio. You can always catch
that show as well, like all our other shows, on

(01:56:51):
the I Heart Radio app. Just search for Fox Sports
radios to make sure you check them out. No One
Salam coming up here a little over ten minutes from
now on Fox Sports tradeo. Um. So, there was some
interesting comments from Patrick certan who was drafted by the
Denver Broncos top ten pick in the NFL draft. And
you know, this has been a hot button issue, Bucky

(01:57:14):
when it comes to the nfl p A telling players
to skip workouts and you know, don't show up and
we're just we're gonna, we're gonna make a stand here.
And then you have a situation like John James who
gets injured away from the team facility and now he
gets cut and he's gonna lose out on millions upon
millions of dollars. And it feels like the nfl p
A maybe didn't clearly state to some of these guys, oh,

(01:57:37):
by the way, if you're not there and you get hurt,
you're screwed. And and it just feels like the nfl
PA has been scrambling to try and say face and
a lot of this and Patrick Certan um and this,
according to Mike Cliss has been covering the Denver Broncos
for a long time there in Denver, but Patrick certain
talked about ignoring the union's wish for rookies to skip minicamp,

(01:58:00):
and he said the following quote, I was going to
come up here and play regardless. I'm a rookie. I
feel like I don't have a bit of an advantage
yet in me to miss mini camp. I have no
proven ability to miss mini camp end quote. First of all,
I love it the fact that he's going to show
up and even though his his dad was a good
player in the NFL, even though he's a top ten pick,

(01:58:21):
he's going to show up and he's out to prove
a point and out to get there and actually earned
the gig and show that he belongs. But I just
wonder how that's gonna sit with people in the n
f L p A, Like, I wonder if that's gonna
bother some people. Well, absolutely, it's gonna bother some people
from the p A. But I understand what passer ten
is doing. Also understand where he comes from, not only
from his dad, but when you think about Alabama and

(01:58:42):
everything that Alabama has taught us about the process, with
the process, about coming out getting one percent better every day,
going to work and out working everybody on the field
and so for passer ten, he can't imagine, uh, apply
to a starting position where he's that out working everybody.
So I get it now. I do believe with Juwan

(01:59:04):
James's injury and the Achilles and potentially losing out on
ten million dollars, You're going to have more people to
speak up about a working out and coming to camp
and doing those scenes because when they show up, they're protected.
And so this will be a thing where the nfl
p A they will have to talk to the players
so the players clearly understand what is at risk and
what's at stake when they don't show up for these workouts.

(01:59:26):
See I wonder how many And this was talked about
when the c b A was voted on when when
they agreed to the new tenure deal and all that,
and it was like the Dak Prescott Dallas Cowboys contract,
Like Dak ended up getting everything you wanted. And then
some like like like all this posturing, we're gonna, like
the nfl p A come out and said no, we're
gonna We're drawn a line in the sand and we're
gonna stand our ground. And they were doing this three

(01:59:48):
years in advance, and what happened. They agreed to a
ten year deal. The owners got an extra game, they
got an extra wild card game, like like everything that
could possibly have wanted, the owners got as far as
the most important stuff here, And it feels like the
NFL p A is trying to scramble and save face
a little bit. But I wondered when it came to
that vote, you had guys like Aaron Rodgers and others

(02:00:10):
that were upset about the deal that was agreed upon
and voted on. And one of the points that was
being made is, man, how many of these players actually
took the time to read through what this new CBA
was gonna look like, because if they read through, and
maybe they would be more educated on the topic. I
wonder how many players weren't aware until Juwan James's injury
that if he if you suffer one of these outside

(02:00:32):
of the facility, you're out, Like you're done. Millions. I'm like,
I wonder how many of these guys actually read the
fine print on this stuff and are just now finding
out about it because of the James injury. You know,
I think that's a very valid point, and sometimes it
takes a clear example to illustrate the risk and the
pitfalls of sometimes doing things a little differently, and so

(02:00:53):
it's unfortunate for Juwan James that he gets hurts outside
of the facility. But what I will say to teams
they have to be careful because these guys are going
to have to work out the one the time that
minicamp ends and the season or training camp begins. What
are they to do then because they get hurt? Are
you gonna protect them? All of that has to be
in play. Yeah, No, very good point, Bucky Brooks. It's

(02:01:13):
been a fun show, a fast three hours on Fox
Sports Radio for Bucky Brooks, myself, Iowa, Sam Lead to
Lap and the Great Ralph Irvan no In Salam are
next here on Fox Sports Radio.
