Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio. They're going for the
gold that's coming right up. But if you expected to
hear Jonas Knocks and Bucky Brooks, forget about and forget
about it, because here is the tallest man and talk
radio today. My partner and friend, the one, the only,
Ryan Hollins, im An the Firman were weird for them
(00:21):
today and my guy, I got a little bit of
a beef with you. I got a beef to settle.
The last time we talked together, I said that we
were gonna get together. I was gonna get your address.
I was gonna help promote you as the tallest man
to be a password guest host on a Jeopardy or
password whatever it may be, Jeopardy perhaps, And uh, I
(00:42):
never got information from you your address. I was just
sending out to Jeopardy. They're looking for these guest hosts
every couple of weeks, and I know you'd be grade
at it, and we gonna promote the fact that you'd
be the tallest guest host on Jeopardy. Andy, I'm all in.
I'm all in, But I don't you asked me for
the hatch Wrestle. Was that supposed to be pro andy.
I don't need. All I need is your address. I'll
(01:03):
send all the materials out there. And you're spilling the beach.
Should I put my address on the internet? Now, I
put it on their private private on Twitter, you know
private message that we could do that, no problem. Alright, alright,
I'm glad. So you're in. You're all in now? Yeah,
I'm all in. Man. That'd be one that called me
and Aaron Rodgers. Man. They they're taking everybody else in.
(01:25):
Their mother is a guest host. Why not you? Right?
Why to promote the fact the tallest host of TV.
Be wonderful? I love it. But we're back together again.
I never thought this day would come. I never did ime.
We back together again. The show, the last show we
did was too good. Now and I don't know if
if you know this. I am the tallest triple jumper
in history to metal in the state of California. Really, yeah, yeah,
(01:51):
there are a place in a triple jumping wonderful. Really,
But you didn't do any of that in college? I did,
I did now. I didn't win anything, that's the thing.
I went to regionals. I won a bunch of meets,
but I don't think I didn't meddle anywhere. I didn't
get a chance to make it the nationals. That's a
whole that's another story for another day, Andy, But uh yeah, no,
(02:13):
I uh yeah, history. And the good news is that
we have something to come and we both didn't meddle.
It's a good thing. I guess it's a good thing alright.
Speaking the medals, let's touch on the Olympics for a second.
For those who hadn't heard earlier today, usay all over
the Czech Republic one nineteen four, Kevin Durant coming alive today,
(02:34):
k D getting it done. And I think k D
right now passes Carmelo Anthony for the most points in
Olympic history for the US of A three fifty four
to three thirty six. And you know, I had my doubts,
I really did. I have my doubts early on when
they lost to France and said kind of be I
look the Olympics. To me, I'm not following badminton. I
don't follow synchronized swimming, archery, table tennis. I don't follow
(02:57):
those sports in the summer games, A little track and field,
but most the basketball and a basketball lets me down,
I am somewhat depressed, so you're ready to hang it
up somewhat, yes, really, But then the cavalry came, then
the troopers came. The NBA finished and they flew over
and I give him a lot of credit for doing that. Listen, man,
you gotta be a static and understand man because of
(03:20):
the funky timing and covid Ha had his hit everybody,
but it hit our pros in a different way. Man.
That was an extremely long season, especially for guys like
Devin Booker Middleton Holiday. They came fresh off the NBA
Finals where they should be at Disneyland. They should be celebrating,
they should be popping bottles with with with Andy, and
(03:40):
they're doing the thing man, popping bottles. But guess what
they have sacrifice for our country. And I played in
the Pan American Games in the summer as a professional.
It's about a two month commitment Andy, at least MINALM.
So for these guys, you really gotta take their hats off.
And these aren't always just the first first class arrangements.
You know, you've got to fall in par with the
(04:00):
Olympic village and you know so that you gotta understand
there's more there's more levels to this. So hats off
to these guys for competing and playing. And I think
the USA team will only improve as you started to
dive into any and more than that, we even touched
on the COVID fear. And I gotta ask you this.
You play in the pandemic games, if they had a
COVID situation, then would you have played? Would you have
(04:21):
played and kind of handled the situation? Say, look, I'll
take my test whatever it may be. I'm still gonna play.
What you say now, I'd rather not play now for me,
I would have played because you have to understand in
situations like that. And we ran into it with the
NBA bubble last year and we're seeing it with the
NFL franchise is still figuring things out. It's likely the
safest place that you can be. Why is that you're
(04:42):
tested every single day that you step into building. Um
precautions are being taken. You got interns and people that
are wiping down surfaces, you know, asking questions so you
know all the preventative measures are being taken. So to answer, yes,
I would have played and competed. Uh. Sometimes there's no
safer place in these bubbles. That they're in and you
(05:03):
you become extremely aware of everything that's going on. Well,
I will say this, I think there's a different element
right now to the Olympics in the sense that there
are no fans in the stands, the parents of the athletes,
many of them, are not there to route them on.
I think the motivation factor maybe missing and some of
these athletes, some of these athletes I think need to
have that motivation to perform at their best. Maybe not,
(05:24):
but I'm just saying I would think there's at least
a handful of athletes that kind of thrive on the
crowd and thrive on their parents being there. Well, you're
right about that, and I will speak to USA basketball.
You know, these guys are prime time players. You know,
Kevin Durant feeds off being either the hero or the villain.
And that's the honest to God true. So you know,
a quiet stands that definitely hurts USA basketball. I'm not
(05:47):
gonna hide hide behind that. And you're gonna see and
remember I said it, We've already seen a few instances here,
some you know, upset upsets. You know, those primetime athletes
thrive on that. You know, so there may be some
upsets bigger than just bad sketball. Whether you know, the
underdog comes up and shows up. And we've been watching
a little bit of track and field. I know the
replay is on right now. If someone wants to check
(06:09):
out how USA looked. It looks like the ball pressure
UH has stepped up a notch. And that's extremely important,
especially in overseas play because you know, Andy, when I
played from the NBA to playing the global game, they're
more physical. They put their hands on you, they play hard, man,
(06:30):
and it's just it's just a different tempo and it
takes you a game or two sometimes just to catch
up on the temple play. And then you and Andy,
you're looking over at your opponent going, man, this smuck,
this smuck can't take me off the dribble. Man, this
this guy can't beat me. And these are these are
good ball players, man, These are season professionals, even though
they might not have the same physical stature. Well, you
(06:51):
say the game is more physical, I would say one
step further, it's more physical because they're officiating. It's a
lot different than it would be in the NBA. That
kind of left things go, don't they You have to
adjust in the in the whistle, and the referees are
extremely important, so you got to you gotta adjust the
way that everything is gonna be called. So you you
hit that right on the head, you know you you
(07:12):
can get a little more hands you on the perimeter.
And the one thing that Adam Silver has done an
excellent job within Andy, I know you've noted this is
you can't touch our NBA stars when you got a
live gible. It's hard to touch those guys. But in
the World Games, they can get up and get physical
with you. So yeah, that that is a big difference.
And I tell you, man, some of those older guards,
they'll be in there, you know, their thirties or forties,
(07:33):
and they can't They know they can't run with you,
so they just get physical and the body you off
your position. So it's a huge, huge adjustment man, almost
almost like some good old street ball man. Well, I
think that the pave, the pavement is all set up
now for the USA to get that goal. They got
to bypass Spain, the bypass Australia. So I think that
looks pretty good. They'll fund out tomorrow who they play.
(07:53):
And I tell you why, you talk about pressure and
pressure on these athletes, and we talked about that. We'll
talk about what happened with the women's gymnastics and Simone
Biles and all that that that's down the road. But
I will say this, there's pressure on everybody. But the
biggest pressure I think going into these games was for
Greg Popovich. I mean, look who he's following, Bob Knight,
you know, coach k All, these guys that have really
accomplished so much, and like the pressure is on him
(08:16):
to bring back the gold. Yeah, there is pressure on
pop but pop this season, man, he's been here before.
And the one thing no one's taken into account. We
talked one about the COVID season for two. This wasn't
the A plus plus team. You know, we gotta be
plus out there. You know, there's there's four starters missing
off that the lineup. And I'll tell you that the
(08:37):
four starters that are missing, uh, Steph Curry, Kawhi, Leonard
Lebron James, and Anthony Davis those would be Olympic starters. Okay,
so outside of Kevin Durant, you know there's a lot
on his shoulders. But you know this is the B
plus team and you say, well, well, those guys don't
have the stars that we have. But guess what, they've
been playing together since they were thirteen or fourteen years old,
and you're kind of ingrained into that national team system.
(08:59):
We don't have the same set up here in America.
We have the talent, but they're different circumstances. And we
spoke earlier. You know, you gotta be able to buy in.
Coach Pop has a lot of Olympic experience, but you know,
relaying that over to the players, it takes a little time. Man.
It doesn't just start overnight. And as a as an
NBA player, you know you're not. It takes a while
for Gil's competitive juices to get going. You just came
(09:21):
off the NBA and now you're playing against a guy
who never played in the league or third or fourth stringer,
you know. So it's a different game Andy, you know.
And the funny thing is when they did lose to
France early on, all I heard from the nation, Oh,
you know, the world that's caught up to the US,
But no, they haven't, No, they have. You hit it
on the head with your remarks in the sense that
(09:41):
these guys have to play with one another, and there
was too much one on one going on, not enough
team basketball. And Pop's gonna get him into the team
basketball mode. And look, you know during finish with twenty
three today, eight for eleven, they sat him out. The
other night, he didn't play the entire fourth quarter. They
rested him. So these are the things that have to
happen when keep on working together and practicing together. I
(10:02):
don't think the world has caught up to the US.
I don't think the Czech Republic has caught up three.
I don't think I ran basketball. Let me tell you something,
and think at full I'll get full guys out of
a telephone book and you and me that could beat
I ran in basketball. Believe me, it's unreal what people think.
We're looking at it. From this perceptive, the world has
(10:22):
gotten better? Has it gotten up? No? Um as there
are more talented guys out there, and we can just
see from the young stars that make up the All
Star Game and the most talented we see from Jhanna,
Sounds of the Coopo, Luca Dodgeons and those guys who's
tearing it up right now for Sylvania. They've gotten better.
But from a talent protective perspective, no they haven't gotten
Caughton up. But there's just a different sense of nationalism
(10:44):
when it comes to playing for your country that USA
doesn't have. And I'll say the biggest emphasis also is
on the defensive end. You know, these guys the USA
in the game against the Czech Republic, for those of
you who are watching, I don't want to give away
a spoiler, they've gotten more physical. The ball pressure is there,
you know, and sometimes is an NBA player you just
want to kind of roll the balls out and play man.
But pressuring a basketball, letting your offense dictate your defense
(11:07):
is extremely good. And we see a guy like Draymond
Green who's been extremely instrumental in everything that you're seeing
with with the success of the of the of the
USA today. So um, I'm not gonna guarantee go, but
like I just said, the USA is nice and pretty
right now. I'm glad you mentioned the term goal because
here's the deal. If I'm gonna bust my rear, wrend
a practice for two three years for an event, okay,
(11:29):
no matter no matter what the events could it be.
I find it rather strange to stand up on the
podium and if I'm a swimmer I mean, I've worked
since I'm about eight ten years old, and it's tough.
I watched those swimming, track and field the same thing,
but I can't see a guy standing up there for rifle,
for archery, for badminton, for table tennis. There should be
(11:50):
a different deal. I mean, you should get the same
gold medal for badminton as you do for track and
field and hurdles. I just don't think it's fair. It's crazy, really,
it's just not eight. Yeah, I don't I don't want
to take that that that world man, I mean difference,
Come on, come on, stroke for different folks. I will
say this, what's a little tough is that everybody doesn't
(12:11):
have the same resources to do you know, write a
question in or or to you know, do archery or
do some of these other events. So you know, it
isn't fair in that sense that you don't always have
the same resources. But these are global games, you know,
this is a world uh competition. You know, it doesn't
it isn't just regional, you know, So we don't want
to be the narrow minded Americans here. Come on, Eddie, no,
(12:32):
well not not. Let me Let me tell you if
I would have known him back in the day when
I was throwing up, I could represent my country, the
United States of America, being on the bad mitten team.
Believe me, I'd put a batmanten court in my backyard.
I'd be practice every single day. And the point is
that this bad mitten sport I'm watching on TV, I
could play that with a beer in one hand and
a cigar in the other. It's unbelievable. I'd be come up,
(12:54):
how are you freaking kidding me? An Olympic sport? It's
a joke. They had bullroom dancing, wants swimming? Who who
ships in this room? To the side, what's the sport?
And what's not? Just like that, you're right there, No, no, no,
that that is a question. And I throw this to
you man. I sparked a little debt and I said,
you're on fire. This is my bid. This is my bid. Seriously,
(13:16):
joke jokes aside American football. I want to see American
football in the Olympics. I know it's not as favorable everywhere.
I know it may not be as popular as a
world sport, but it's more popular than you think. You know.
When I played in Italy, I was on the train
with some young men vacationing and they're they're out there
with their buddy who played American football in Italy. So
(13:39):
there's more football being played. And I think that if
football was introduced, American football was introduced, I think the
world would catch on. They would play. And a lot
of people challenge me on Twitter said, well, we don't
have the resources, we don't have this. Well, do you
know how much money it costs to write a question?
Not much money it cost to take tennis lessons? Much
tennis lessons cost, like, so you can any am I wrong?
(14:02):
Did I say that? You can find a way? But
I don't want to see it happened. Let me tell
you why, because if they if they introduce American football,
I know the Olympic pity would take the NFL players,
And look, I was upset when they took the NBA players.
It's supposed to be amateur athletics. I'd like to see
the college kids play. If we get a little, if
we get our heads beaten in so be it. Let
the college kids play. So if the University of Alabama
(14:22):
football team wants to be in the Olympics, that's fine
with me. And they could compete and they probably would win.
But I don't want to see the NFL guys going
over there. And more often than not, these owners of
these teams would probably not permit the guys to go
over there for potential injury. And and that's fair too.
And I understand even if there are the NFL players playing,
you know, I say this, I say this much. There's
so many high levels. You mentioned the Division one football
(14:44):
players that don't make it, you know, over there don't
make it to play in the NFL. You know those
there's there's I don't know what percentage it may be,
but a lot of these guys don't make it. So
there's more than enough players that go around. And if
football becomes more of a world market, the world sport,
all these athletes wouldn't have to retire, you know, they
can go and play. And you know, you know, we
don't talk about enough about the life of a guy
(15:06):
on on a on a practice squad or a guy
who just got cut in the You stay awake and
stay alive and keep the dream alive, or you go
playing Canada. There aren't a lot of options. I know,
we've got more in basketball. It's more of a World Game.
But I'd like to see American football you don't continue
to grow. But like I said, and you'll be surprised
the popularity of football in other places. I know it's
not soccer. Okay, it's not soccer, but American football could
(15:29):
be extremely popular, popular because stay bet on it. That's
why it's popular. Fantasy Football Italy, That's why he's Ryan Hollands.
Get him on Twitter. We'll read the tweets at the
Ryan Hollands h O L L I N S at
hand the Firm and FSR or better yet. Eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven six six
(15:50):
three six nine on the lineup from the Philadelphia Eagles
training camp. I'm gonna chat with Adam Katlan Fox Sports Radio,
NFL Inside. He has also on Serious X and now
maybe perhaps even in a full quarterback and Pro Football
focus man Bruce Gradkowski in our third hour. But we'll see.
But right now he may have won his biggest game
this week. Adam Kaplan, r F s R, NFL Inside,
(16:10):
It tells you all about it next. Fox Sports Radio
has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch
all of our shows at Fox sports Radio dot Com
and within the I Heart radio app search f s
R to listen live. Adam Kaplan coming right up. It's
about twenty four minutes past hour. This is Fox Sports Saturday.
He is in fact Ryan Hollands. I'm Andy fermam more
(16:32):
in for Jonas Knocks and Bucky Brooks. But right now
we're going to the Philadelphia Eagles training camp, where our guy,
Adam Kaplan on Fox Sports Radio. Nflnder joins us right now. Hello, Adam,
how you doing. Guys, Good to talk to you this weekend.
Good talking to you. Now. I want to talk about
the green Bay Packers for a second. Know maybe uh
they've won the big He looked this guy on the
(16:53):
green Bay Packer, Aaron Rodgers may have won his biggest
game with a week this year, Packers restructures contract. Despite
what team officials say, he is basically a lame duck
this year, don't you agree? Well, no, they have they
have control. Um, they really his his contract. They chopped
the year off. There's certain there's certain language in the
(17:13):
contract that if he's not happy, they'll where he visit.
But quite frankly, I'm surprised that he gave them, uh
no doubt. Now, when you see lame duck with referring
to is basically, if you don't play well, obviously they're
gonna want to trade them anyway. But he'll have the
same where he goes. So bottom line is they got
this thing done. I've been saying on this on Fox
(17:34):
Sports rating for about six weeks. I fully expect him
to play. He's a football player. This is what do
you He always wanted to come back. It's just that
he wanted some things taken care of. Now, if they
didn't do this, that's a different story. Cab, How you doing, brother,
Good to talk to you, guys. What's the feel in
Green Bay? Is it kind of awkward? Are we excited
(17:57):
it's Aaron Rodgers? Is this like a like the will
Be Bryant the farewell Tour? You know, what's what's going
on over there? Obviously we see the restructuring and with
a player the talent of Aaron Rodgers, do you think
this the off the phil Shenanigans are going to affect him,
you know on the field? No, No, he's good man.
He uh, look, he he wanted out last year. I
(18:20):
had to you know, I had to report out that
he went over to a an opponents huddle, uh and
yelled at the players, get me out of here. That
was the quote. So he clearly was unhappy and we
know he has to be traded, but they weren't going
to trade him. And he's happy now he got what
he wanted. He got Randall cop back. They were not
going to trade for him. He wanted him. Uh. Now,
(18:42):
as Roger said they needed a slot receiver, he got
one Randall Cobb, who also restructures contracts. So they got
that co and everything's good now. But the question is
if they don't make the playoffs. Well there they clearly
have to make the US But if they don't go
for in the playoffs, what's the move gonna be? Like?
Does he want to stay? And that's gonna come down
to how the team performs and and how they treat
(19:03):
him and how much communication they have with him. All right,
Adam catalyists move along with the quarterback situation. I won't
to know what exactly happen. The Carson went with the
Indianapolis Colts on the first day of practice. Yeah, so
what happened is he tweeked his foot three quarters away
and Thursday's practice was not able to practice Friday. He's
getting looked at by Dr Robert Anderson, who speaking of
Green Bay, that's where his offices are, I believe, and
(19:26):
he's the foremost specialist for athletes, not just football players,
but NBA players and other athlete baseball players on their feet.
So that's gonna get looked at. It's being evaluated, and
the question is will he be able to play in September.
That there's that's the issue. And then if he has surgery,
it's gonna be a matter of months or weeks, and
that we don't know yet. But the problem is now
(19:46):
for the Colts, guys, they have two quarterbacks, actually three
quarterbacks in the roster um two of them and right
now are Jacobson who's the number two. They signed Brent Huntley,
former Packer, and they guy Ellen Ellen Ellen jer the
quarterback from Texas. But look, it's a bad situation. They
don't have anyone who's really been a start in the
National Football League behind Carson Wentz. And this is not
(20:08):
what the Colts wanted when they're trying to get Carson
Wentz rebuilt. Here maybe a bit of a messy question
right now, but if I'm not mistaken, you at Eagles
training camp right now, right correct now. We're not gonna
say names, We're not gonna say We'll just leave it
at fillings. But is there a fill in the air that, okay, sire, relieve,
maybe we we made the right move because to actually
(20:29):
trade Carson Wentz, that's it. You don't just trade stars
away like that. You don't trade young talent like Carson
went You don't do that. So that was a huge move.
But is there a kind of a side like, hey, okay,
maybe we made the right call. Ryan. Actually no, here's why.
Because the conditions of the trade for them to get
a first round pick next year, he needs to play
(20:50):
in a minimum seventy of the snaps on offense. They
definitely need him to come back by no layer than
early October. They're gonna want that. And they also whenever
he plays there to make sure he doesn't get benched.
So the bottom line is, guys, they need Carson Wentz
to get back. Now. It's uh, you know, look, he
didn't play well. He got bench last season. There's no
doubt about it. He deserved to get benched. He needed
(21:10):
a fresh start. He wanted out. They did not want
to trade him by the way. But um, the Eagles
that believe me, they have a watchful eye and whether
how long WinCE is going to be out that's big, big,
and they're thinking going forward. Adam Colban, I'll tell you
what since is in the Eagles training camp. I'm gonna
say this. If you're an Eagles fan, you've got to
be excited. Why do I say that they probably have
the best right side combat in the NFL and Brandon
(21:32):
Books and Lane Johnson number one offensively with Jalen Hurts.
You know what, they got some punch on the running
back situation, the receiver, tight end, whatever it may be.
The only question I may have is Nick Serriani, the
first year coach. Yeah, he's I'll tell you what he's
got off the really good start. He actually did something
interesting yesterday. I was there yesterday as well, after coming
(21:52):
from Washington's camp on Thursday. In Pittsburgh on Wednesday, he
actually ended practice early. Sure's training camp practice I've ever
seen only an hour in ten minutes and midway through
he had a little group meeting in the middle and
he was not happy with practice. So he's got the
players attention, I'll say that much. Look, he's the first
year head coach. He's in his early forties. This is
probably a little earlier than most people thought he'd becoming
(22:13):
head coach. But from what I understand, the pleasure responded
very well so far to his coaching. Here we go,
Adam is always a pleasure. Give us your your social
media platform so people can contact you. Alright, guys at
Kaplan NFL c A p l A n NFL. Great,
always a pleasure. Enjoy your stay in Philadelphia's training camp.
(22:33):
All right, appreciate, all right, see it? All right, let's
move along right now. He's Ryan Hollands, I'm Andy Ferman.
We're in Fort Jonas Knocks and Bucky Brooks right here
on Fox Sports Saturday. And now we have a new
reason to quit. We'll explain it next. But first, did
David gascon with the latest. Hey, guys, all over north
of the border. Toronto just limited Kansas City to a
(22:54):
mere three hits in the ballgame. George Springer was the
hero to home runs three driven in on the day
for nothing. Toronto wins it. Giants and Astro isn't a
good one. They've gone back and forth. San Francisco leading
right now five four in the top of the fifth inning,
A's down a run to the Angels one to nothing.
At games on FS one show Hey Otani with the
base knock in that affair, we had the Tigers and
(23:17):
Orioles right around the corner of Boston Tampa as well
taking place in Tampa. Royals could be without Tyle of
Glass now for this season and beyond all that, he's
expected to have Tommy John's surgery in the following week. Meanwhile,
in the National Football League, DeVonta Freeman is a greached
an agreement with the New Orleans Saints. Linebacker Justin Houston
is now a Baltimore Raven one year deal worth four
(23:38):
million dollars, and the Colts had picked up Brett Huntley
signed him. Status of Carson Wentz is still in doubt. Guys,
back to you, all right, thank you so much, seeing
about an hour, all right, he has in fact, Ryan
Hollosam and the firma we're infra Jonas not to Buckey
Brooks and we hear on Fox Sports Saturday, and you know, Ryan,
there is so much negativity, so much hate what's going
(24:00):
on right now with Simone Biles and the Olympics and
her not playing I don't know how you how you
feel about this below I know is this She's the
most decorated gymnast in the world. She walked off the
matt left the competition, saying she was not mentally prepared
to continue. She came into the Olympics as the US star,
expected to bring gold medals and become a global celebrity,
which I think she is. And the fact that she
(24:22):
walked off, I mean, look, she pulled out of tomorrow's
individual finals. She says she has what is called the
twist ees on, mind and body not in sync. I
get it. But the point here is the pressure. She
says she could no longer withstand all right and let
me move along. Here. On the NBC Today Show the
other day, Hoda Copy, She's on the NBC Today Show.
She's on there. She said, there are only a couple
(24:44):
of athletes to know what it feels like to be
on the front page of every paper, every magazine, and
every commercial and every ad. The world watching you. You're
defining the Olympic Games. And I'm saying, wait a minute,
you know Lebron James is doing this. I mean, Michael
Jordan did this. I mean, I I don't understand now
how the fact that people are not only hating on
(25:04):
her but also in the same token some people or
even praising on her. I I don't understand it. All
I know is this, there's play some young girl somewhere
watching these games on TV that basically similar Biles took
our spot in the Olympics. That's all I have to say.
Sometimes you gotta just four John agreed. Here's my deal
on this play. Four years in college major D one
(25:27):
of u C l a uh, ten years in the NBA,
one overseas, and I'll tell you that it isn't for everybody.
And when I say it isn't for everybody, doesn't mean
how talented you are doesn't mean you're anymore any less.
There are mental rigors that challenge you as a professional.
There sometimes you get boxed in into a situation those
(25:50):
walls start closing in on you. And you mentioned Michael Jordan,
didn't Michael Jordan walked away from the game of basketball. Okay,
Michael Jordan's now some say maybe gambling. That's not my
place to say. He mentioned on the documentary the pressures
of losing his father just got to him. He just
didn't want to be Michael Jordan anymore. That's what he said.
Maybe it's the answers somewhere in between. I don't know,
(26:12):
but mental health is a serious thing, and to me,
you can never knock someone for choosing not to do something.
But there's a level where you gotta really appreciate the
people who found a happy, safe place in which they
can coexist. I tell you, man, eighty two games a
year in the NBA, seventeen in the NFL, and so
(26:33):
on and so on, it can be extremely stressful. So, uh,
my advice of the young athletes, any athletes, is you
have to take care of yourself first and a lot
of times, and I'll be honest, man, we don't know
how to define define ourselves. So for instance, my identity
for a very long time, until I decided to be
(26:54):
Andy Ferman and do radio and and and do this
is uh, you know, starting center or center off the bench,
who who scored you know, ten points in five rebounds?
That was my identity. So as well or as good
or as bad as I played, that was who I was.
I wasn't Ryan Hollands, I wasn't intelligent. I wasn't you know,
(27:15):
the guy who grew up in Pasadena. Who loves this
and loves that, and you know has two cats and
a dog. That wasn't me. I was a statu statistic
and we gauge ourselves through that, and then pressure can
mount and eat you alive. And that's what you saw
someone bio. So I think she's not alone, but Ryan,
she's not. She's not the look. I'm gonna go back
in history. I remember Ken Griffith Junior played for this
(27:37):
sit Touny Redge, and I was pretty close to Junior
when he was here. He tried to commit suicide when
he played. He swallowed pills out a pumpet stomach. This
pressures all the time, So she's not first. And I
go way back when I was a kid, when Roger
Marris went after that sixty one home run record in
nineteen sixty one, he lost his hair. He talking about pressure.
I mean, that's pressure. So she's not alone. So why
is she being praised for it? I get it if
(27:58):
it's a mental issue, Sirly walk away. I applauded for
doing that, But you are not alone, and you're not
the first, and she won't be the last. But here's
the deal. What if Tom Brady in the fourth court
of the Super Bowl, is just said, you know what,
I can't hit it anymore. I can't heitle it. I'm
walking away he walks up the field. Then what would
he be praised like her? I don't think so. I
think he's gonna absolutely take a strong level of criticism.
(28:22):
But I think after that criticism, we're gonna have to
find out why. And there's a lot of there's a
lot of excuses, there's a lot of and sometimes I'll
be honest as an athlete, I do praise it for
at least being transparent. And fans know, like you said, Andy,
if there's something real going on, people are gonna close
their mouths. But if he just I didn't feel like it.
You know, I was upset a lot of times. That's
(28:43):
what you know, we're taught. You know, I play with
Kevin Love, Man talked to recently. Love that dude right there.
You know, Kevin Love spoke about the pressure is finally
getting to him. You know, Kevin Love was a number
one or top ranked player before the NBA since the
eighth grade. Kevin Love was somebody. So for for him
to have broken down and and just said, man, enough
(29:03):
was enough for man, the walls were closing in on me.
You know that, that is the truth. And their athletes
who talk about, you know, committing suicide of doing things,
sometimes we don't hear about it. It's too until it's
too late. Man, you don't hear it's right. But let
let me run by here. Okay. Back in the French
Open this year, Naomi Osaka withdrew right. She was and
I get it mental and I respect that for that,
(29:24):
but who knows what the deal really was. Then she
comes out in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. That's not
pressure because if I had mental issues, i'd stay away.
I have a shrink with me. I rest, I go
on an island by myself. I wouldn't want to publicize
myself in a swimsuit issue. I don't understand. You can't
have it both ways, That's all I'm saying. I respect
(29:45):
the fact that you had issues mentally, and believe me,
I know it's serious and I do know it's I'm
not playing on that fact, but you know what, to
withdraw from the French Open and then to be in
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue doesn't make any sense to me.
There's a point your career as a professional athlete where
you gotta ask yourself if you still love the game? Right,
(30:07):
And I know, Andy, it's it's a cliche, but you
ask yourself if you still love the game because you
have to do so much crap. Okay, forgive me, I
don't have a better. You have to do so much
crap in order to play. You have to deal with
so much stuff. And when you stop loving the game
with the be osaka bios, Michael Jordan, you stop loving
(30:31):
the game, it is over for you. And I can't
I say this. I say this, but there's something doing
mental issues just you just worn out, You're burnt out.
People have that, Oh Andy, No, no, no, those are
just the beginning. Because if I'm doing something I don't
love and the walls are closing in and those frustrations
are mounting, and I don't have the correct people around me,
(30:53):
and I don't have a healthy place where I can
vent or I can let my frustrations out, that's when
those issues occur and I can't speak to And it
may never be any of our business of what Biles
was going through or oh Sokka was going through, but
there was something not right. Man, there's definitely something not right,
and we don't have the full story, and maybe we
(31:13):
we should We shouldn't have hats off to God like
Kevin because Kevin Love just let it out man, like, dude,
I was suicidal. I went through this. I went through that.
I didn't like myself like he like, you've judge yourself.
So you're taught and from a young age to judge
yourself to be perfect. Simone Biles is supposed to be
a tent of ten. Every time she know, she had
to do and say I have the twisties, which is
(31:34):
related to the yips. And I remember when Chuck na
Block was playing baseball, he couldn't throw a ball from
second base to first base. He had the yips, and
that's fine, we accepted it. He walked away from the
game by a being by the bank. It's over. So
all Simone had to do is say, look, I don't
feel safe. I got what's the twisties. The twisties are
very similar to the yips. I've seen the yips and golf.
I've seen it in baseball. She has it. It's called
(31:57):
the twisties that she hasn't in gymnastics, she could hurt herself.
Her mind is knitted walk away. But you know what,
to me, you don't get that overnight she had it.
She may have had it in practice, and there's some
kids at home watching on TV that could have had
that spot. I think as you bring that up, what
comes to mind is how important it is to speak
about it and address it because you're right, You're right
(32:18):
that probably that probably didn't just happened yesterday or the
day before. She's had them before, performed and you know,
there's a level, Andy Ware. It's like a fine line
where every time before you get to go out to
a game, you get the butterflies and the thumb and
you get nervous. I don't know what it is. You
think about everything you need to think about everything that
could go wrong. You think about everything that can go wrong,
(32:40):
and you go out and the ball goes up and
everything ends up being fine. But there's a it's a
fine balance with that because you can go out and
you can just not care. But you know, pressure burst
pipes man, and in our today a today's day and age,
you know it's only magnified. You know, all that has
magnified because of social media. You know, I know Simone Biles,
(33:01):
and she called herself to goat on something else. You know,
she is the face of the league. And I think
you said all athletes go through it, but Osaka and
Biles on a different echelon. But I heard you say.
The funny thing is, you know, going back to what
I heard about, hold a code b sit on and
the NBC Today's Show. I laughed at it because if
anybody should be at fault of building her up on
(33:23):
every paper, magazine, every commercial, it was NBC. Every Olympic commercial.
It wasn't the Olympics. It was a Simone Biles Olympics,
every promotion on TV, every spot that I saw on NBC.
And she's complaining that this athlete can't handle it, Well,
look in the mirror, hold up, because it was your
network that basically did it. Maybe that's what was the breakdown.
(33:45):
Her parents weren't there and she didn't have the audience
to kind of brood her on, and all of a sudden,
she's seeing every commercial everything's all about her. It wasn't
the Olympics, it wasn't about the I never once saw
a swimming promo. Everything was her. Well, you know what
I see that as you know, like a problem maybe.
And like you said, on the other hand, you know,
you you didn't have the those opportunities. You know, you
(34:08):
don't have the opportunity to see your family, you don't
get to see your friends. Those things can mount up.
This is this is difference. And like you said, sometimes
not having fans there can bring more pressure, less pressure.
Everybody's different, man. Everybody has a routine. And these athletes
are still you know, generally young man, you know, and
you know what, like I just kind of grew up.
(34:29):
The internet was just starting when I was playing, and
Twitter was kind of new and it wasn't but these
young athletes today and you know, we had a game
and we had something back in the day and you
finished the game, it was over with. No it'saw, it
was over with. Now. If you have a good performance
or something or a bad performance, you're all over the internet.
Mane me on that. I tell you what. The kid
from Ohio State, after Ohio State lust the nt double
(34:50):
A tournament, just here, he was getting death threats on Twitter.
I know, it's crazy, it really is, all right. You
know what's crazy the fact that we could open up
the phone lines and go to Twitter's here with people
have to say about this eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven seven sixty sixty nine at the
Ryan Hollins at Andy Furman FSR, Fox Sports Saturday and
Fox Sports Ready on the best part of the NBA
(35:11):
Draft had nothing to do with the draft. We'll explain
that next. The number is one twenty one million. That's
coming right up. But I love the minutes now before
the top of the hour. This is Fox Sports Saturday.
He is Ryan Hollands, Andy Fermant warning for Jonas Knox
and the one and only Bucky Brooks and talking about
the NBA Draft. I mean, I'm sure you are glue
in front of your TV on Thursday night, Mr Hollands
(35:34):
watching the NBA Draft. You know what's pretty cool for
me this NBA draft man watching with my son, Oh,
that's nice, and I you know, it means something different
now because he's kind of getting the basketball bug and
you know, I don't want to force anything on him.
So it's now it's like, hey, man, let's watch it.
You know, look at the dedication that these guys going to,
(35:55):
Look at the smiles on their face, look at the
you know, the celebration from them, So I thought it
was just cool to watch with him, you know, sharing
sports any of my wrong we share. It's not just
for us as far our families. Man, My some of
my greatest memories of my father, who was no longer here,
was watching sports within and watching football, watching basketball. Man,
(36:15):
you know you're exactly right. Do you hit it right
on the head. But to me, I mean, I gotta
change change for a second. You know, two rounds and
three hours. I mean, give me a break. Really, it
could have been done in a half hour and the
whole thing, but three hours, come on, I mean really,
But the best plot of it, Lebron James got his wish.
He now has a big three with Anthony Davis, de
Brow and Russell Westbrook and the Sun. The Lakers after
(36:36):
pay next year for Lebron, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook
is D one million dollars. Good move. I'm not so
certain right now, because I don't think this is the
same Russell Westbrook was the m v P in the season.
Plus you've got an aging Lebron, Plus you got Anthony
Davis who's injury prone. You know what, Andy, I want
you to see a different perspective. I'm gonna take them
(36:59):
glasses off your head and we're gonna give you some
different lenses. All right, Are you ready for this? The
different lens? Yes, the Lakers Unfortunately, maybe we can blame Lebron,
maybe we can blame uh Polinka, you know, we can
blame other people. But whatever it may be, they had
three pretty immovable contracts a CP nobody wanted for that price.
(37:26):
They sure as heck didn't want. Kyle Kuzma in Montranz,
who was the sixth Man of the Year, had lost
his value. He was not seeing minutes under Frank Vogel system.
Now who we blame for it, I don't know, But ultimately,
at the end of the day, that limited the Lakers options. Now,
I spoke quite often about Chris Paul, but in order
(37:49):
to get Chris Paul you had to be able to
clear space. Spoke about a couple of other guys. So
for the Lakers to make any type of moves, they
could no longer make them because this wasn't the young
you know joy and Clarkson's and Julius Randalls they had
that they could move, and you know, the chess pieces
that they played around with in order to go out
and acquire Lebron James. They were really stuck in a
(38:09):
situation where this is the move they had to make.
I'm gonna give you a scenario real quick, and I'm great,
they may do. If I love Russell Westbrook, you let me.
I know, I know you don't not love him, but
you may not love him for this move. And a
couple of our listeners, I'm gonna give you them gonna
propose something to you and I want you to see
if you're buying into it. So for one Russell Westbrook
in the season who averaged a triple double last year,
(38:31):
his job will to be to get the Lakers better seating.
His job will be to be a machine, a machine
all season long because this was a team that was
in the playing game. Might I add in the playing
game so Russell Westbrook can get you to the playoffs
in the Western Conference. You sprinkling Lebron James as healthy
as he is or he may be the next season.
(38:52):
That's a big role. Now you make it into the
playoffs for the championship run, you're gonna lean on Lebron James.
And Anthony Davis has one job get healthy. So if
that can work, there's a possibility is Lakers squad can
work and understanding there are one a lot of options. Man, well,
I'll give you the positives of Russell Westbrook. I mean,
(39:12):
with Russell Westbrook and these guys being healthy, they're gonna
be very strong in the transition game. That's number one.
And I think this could be an upgrade first of all,
to be tremendous and fast break points. And more than that,
they're conund be lethal on the boards because Restbrook average
almost twlve three pounds of game list year, So I
think that this is gonna be a positive for them.
And he's gonna distribute the basketball knowing that he doesn't
have to shoot as much as he normally does and
(39:33):
it isn't a great three point shooter. So I think
all in all, if they stay healthy, this could be
a tremendous three three man operation. Think about the Western
Conference CLIs out of here, man. You know Phoenix, Chris Paul.
If he comes back, what's he looked like next year? Uh?
You know, obviously they had an amazing year. Utah was
was very good. Teams are good, but we're not looking
(39:54):
at some some juggernaut dynasty. That. Oh man, how are
the Lakers gonna overcome that hurdle? There? There's nobody in
the league that you feel amazing about. And and guess what,
Milwaukee's gotta sign their guys back. B J Tucker free agent,
Robert Lopez free agent. Come on, Andy, I'm with you.
I'll tell you what I think. It's a great move.
I think that conference is wide open. Number one. And
(40:14):
number two, the thing that hurt the lake is most
more than anything else last season was the injury bug.
More than that, I mean Anthony Davis and Lebron you
know that the ankle, injury, whatever it was, just kept
on nagging him all a year long. So that's what
it was, all right, Ryan Hollands, Andy Furman, and this
was the biggest win of his career. Will tell you
all about it. Fox Sports Saturday, coming up right here next. Hey,
(40:36):
it's me Rob Parker. Check out my weekly MLB podcast,
Inside the Parker for twenty two minutes of piping hot
baseball talk, featuring the biggest name the newsmakers in the sport.
Whether you believe in analytics for the Eyecast, We've got
all the bases covered. New episodes dropped every Thursday. So
(40:58):
do yourself a favor and inside the partner with Rob
Parker on the I Heart Radio app or wherever you
get your podcast, heat you the line. And one that's
coming right up at first, it's time to say. This
is Fox Sports Saturday. We're in for Jonas Knox and
Bucky Brooks and here's my partner, my friend, the toilest
(41:18):
man and talk radio today, the one that they only
Mr Ryan Hollands, Hello, Ryan, how are you? And and
everything's good. Everything's good. I'll tell you well. We got
to touch on this situation here with the Olympics. People
may not have seen it because I don't think they're
like me. They don't want to pay for the Peacock.
Eight o'clock Eastern time this morning, the game was on.
(41:40):
I'm not paying for the Peacock to watch the basketball game.
I'm sorry. I'm I'm in the USA guy. I route
for the U s of A. But you know what, NBC,
give me the game, give me the game you want.
I ain't paying, that's it. So I followed it on
the internet. So I did. They won four k d
Kevin Duran twenty three points, shot eight for eleven and
ten points four assists in the third quarter, and the
(42:03):
game went from tightness to a blowout. Surprised Are you
seeing that? Are you feeling like k d right now
was the best player in the NBA? Yeah, heck yeah,
Kevin Durandy the best player in the world. Yeah, it's
not to the COOPO told him he was the best
player in the world. You know, Lebron, No, Lebron just
wasn't feeling it, man. You know, Lebron could wake up
(42:24):
at any time, but he wasn't feeling it. Man it.
Cau I got injured. Kauai was the guy rivaling cou
I got injured. We didn't get to see the matchup.
You know, it's funny you mentioned that because I meant
I read something just recently that, y honest, I didn't
want to pay for peacock either. He didn't want to
pay for the peacock. And you get me nervous. I
got my favor over the dup. But every time you
say pay for the peacock, I got my hand on
the dump But I'm okay, I got self control. I
(42:47):
got the self control. So it's a daily for you.
You never pay for the peacock. Huh. Paid for Peacock.
That type of guy, he Peacock. I'm not pay without Peacock.
Can we move on? Now, you're making me nervous. Now
you're making me nervous. Really move on. It's just the
goal for the USA. Tell me like they're getting the
(43:07):
goal now. I like, look, man, I like the USA.
I don't think I'm in a position North's Greg Popovitch
or Kevin Durant to go out and guarantee your gold.
But honestly, man, like you had dudes flying in the
day of and and playing the game, you know, the
day before whatever it may have been, like that is
I tell you, as a ball player, this is tough
to do. These dudes are supposed to be at Disneyland, Andy,
(43:30):
They're supposed to be relaxing. Andy. This supposed to be chilling,
and they went rushed right in. These aren't ideal circumstances,
of course, And when they come back, they're getting ready
for the NBA camp right day. It's crazy, Andy, listen, man,
and with COVID listen, they're they're shut down. One of
the funnest things that you can have in the Olympics
is they say, is what And you've heard about this
(43:52):
the Olympic village and what happens in the Olympic village. Okay,
so these guys don't even get enjoyed themselves. Man, I know,
I know it's funny. You know, I'm mentioning basketball and
the thing comes to mind, you know, the day I'm
turning on the TV and I thought I was watching
like the wrong channel. I'm seeing women three on three?
When the hell did that start? Three on three? I mean,
(44:15):
that's something used to do in my backyard in Brooklyn.
Three on three? What what is that? Is that an
Olympic event? I know the US of A got gold
in that, but when did that start? Andy? I've been
playing three on three basketball and not the Olympics. Feel
kind of attacked Andy three And they liked it too.
I played it for and a kid in the schoolyard
and PS one school yard. All my life I played
(44:35):
three on three. But I wasn't playing for no gold medal,
that's for sure. But and you messed up. I've been
playing for the Big three. I feel personally attacked. You
had a big three, that's right, the Big three on
fins of course, But I know it's an Olympic event.
I did not know it was an Olympic event. You know,
in a perfect rold will be really cool is if
(44:56):
the Big Three, because there's a lot of experience going on,
there was able to transfer over to the Olympics and
we and in the Big Three. There were rumblings about
that happening. I don't know if COVID got in the way.
I don't know how the selection committee goes. But you know,
the best player in the league, I'd say, Joe Johnson, Like,
I don't know how Joe Johnson isn't there representing for
the gold medal? Man that that that's like a no brainer.
(45:18):
You know, I don't know. I think they're the Big Three.
You have to be probably publicized and represented and maybe
I mean, how do you have tryouts for the three
on three deal? I don't get it there, really, how
does that happen? And who's the coach? Well? I know
the Uh there were w NBA players, Uh that we're playing?
Was it? Is it? Kelsey Plum? I remember her. She
played the Pan American games when I was there. Look,
(45:40):
those are like those aren't like the B and C
is playing in the three on three? Yeah? Yeah, no, no, no,
those are the Eight, the eight listeners. Man, right, you're right,
and you can I spill some means. I'm kind of excited.
I'm sorry, Son, Just go ahead, go go go. Lakers
interested in Carmelo. I'll dropped that and we we'll probably
get to it later. I'm sorry. I just just it amazed.
His career just keeps on going on and on. And
(46:01):
I said, you know, the energize that, buddy, This guy,
isn't he? Andy, he never should have been out the league.
He's on the wrong team. That was the problem. He
was good when he played in Denver. He was real
good in Denver to the playoffs, remember, and then he
goes to New York. I don't know what happened. They
went to the Knicks. They expected he's on a bad team.
It was a bad Nick teams and he was there.
But he was pretty good when he played for the Nuggets.
I know that when you're the guys, you can't really
(46:24):
blame the rest of the team. They're kind of looking
at you. Andy, You're right, No, you're right. He's held
Portland too, I mean Poortland and go far. But he
certainly helped him. There's no doubt about that. I'll tell
you why. Another guy who's helping. I'm gonna move along.
I ever talked about Aaron Rodgers. Because the summer of
discontent ended on Tuesday, he reported to the Green Bay
Packers training camp and this closed like a whole month
(46:45):
months of retirement talk, trade speculation, and the guy said
that he was upset he was airing grievances against the Packers.
During that news conferences passed Wednesday, he says, I just
expressed my desire to be more involved in conversations directly
affecting my job, as he said, which makes sense, affecting
his job, but that's not his job to be involved.
(47:07):
But here's Brian Goodacuns. He's the general manager of the
Green Bay Packers. Here's what he had to say at
the news conference yesterday. He didn't want to quarter rack.
How do you or did you assure that he won't be. Yeah,
that's a hard one for me because I don't. I
don't necessarily, I've never looked at it like that. Obviously
at the moment, he's got, you know, three years left
(47:28):
on his contract, so he certainly don't look at it
as a lame duck. Um. You know, we may alter that,
but even in that stage, it's not going to be
a one year contract. So I never looked at it
like that. As you guys know in this business is
everything's year to year. But I've never looked at it
as a lame duck situation. With any player, you're the
only one who's lame duck. Might be him, Brian goodacounts
he may be out. Who knows, but Iroon Rodgers in
(47:49):
the package, they finalized the terms of a rework contract.
This was on Thursday. The Packers tour off the back
end of his contract, which was scheduled to expire after
the three season, and then removed. Some provision is on
that contract as well, so you know he'll be there
this year. He got his buddy Randall Cobb. He's back
there as well. But the question I have, I mean,
he's a guy, and he said this publicly at the
news conference. Uh, he wants to be more involved in
(48:10):
conversations directly affecting my job. This is gonna set the
stage from many athletes to do that. Now. Tom Brady
sort of did it. He brought his players in to
Tampa last year, but there was a different situation. I mean,
dough do athletes have this power. Should they have this power?
I I don't know what do you have a general
manager for? Yeah, athletes definitely should have this power. Uh,
(48:31):
there's only one Tom Brady, there's only one Aaron Rodgers
at the time, one Drew Brees. And those guys should
be happier there. And they don't grow on trees. You
gotta impress your star player. Now, I'm gonna challenge the
NFL players in the NFL p A to take care
of their guys. C the NBA guys, we figured it
out man and Jalen Ramsey was looking at Jimmy Butler
(48:52):
and Lebron James and and and and James Harden and
they figured it out. Andy. They gotta be able to
see it out. They gotta be women to show up
fat at trading camp. They gotta make a stern practice.
Aaron Rodgers has to be reilling to go the extra
mile to get out of Green Bay. I will say
this back in when the package drafted, they would be
(49:16):
success at quarterback Jordan's love I think that was one
of a slap in the face to Aaron Rodgers. However,
when Brett Farr was quarterback in Green Bay, they did
the same thing when they drafted Aaron Rodgers. I mean,
this has been going on in the world of sports
for eons, and maybe they could tell him that, you
know what, Aaron, you're getting short in the tooth, long
(49:36):
in the tooth, whatever. It maybe a thirty seven years old,
we're drafting a quarterback. That's not to say we want
you out, but we have to start looking for the future.
They didn't tell him that. Maybe they should just out
of respect, to tell him that this guy's a future
Hall of Famer. You got to bring him in on
some conversations. You're absolutely right, and they got what they deserved.
And I don't know if this is like the you know,
(49:59):
they're trying to make up. You know, they're trying to
go over and and uh, you know, like when you
mess up with your wife and you show up with
the diamond ring and the flowers. I think Randall Cole
was the diamond ring and the flowers. Man, Okay, that's
the way he was. They're just trying to, you know,
come back around and say, Aaron, man, give us one
good year and you know we'll we'll think elsewhere. But
(50:20):
when you when you drafted Jordan's love you send a
distinct message, and that message was we don't think you're
gonna be able to play at a high level. And
and to be honest, he wasn't playing at a high level,
uh until last season, and they put a fire under him.
And and and really, if we think about it, as
I mentioned Brady earlier, Andy Tom Brady showing us we
(50:41):
never saw I thought we'd see out of a quarterback.
You know, Brett Farve just started to dwindle. Brett Farve
fell off the Cleff. You know, he was kind of
the Ironman. And now you gotta look at and Andy,
I don't know if you have looked at Aaron Rodgers
career in a different way as he begins to age
and continues the age, I would say this, I mean
they draft the Jordan's love and maybe that was the
spot that he needed under his rear end because he
(51:04):
was on fire with fifty touchdowns a year ago the
m v P for the second time, and he made
it clear to everybody that the thirteen and three record
that they've had the list two years and going through
the final championship games, the twenty six and six record
that he had was his. It's all about him. Now
this team is not the Green Bay Packers, it's the
Aaron Rodger Packers. That's basically what he has. Made it
(51:24):
clear that the general manager has no power and he
embarrassed to all of them. And Mark Murphy, the president,
who was very vocal way back when in May and June. Whatever.
You can't find that guy? What a search warrant with
Mark Murphy? Now he's the president, say something. I mean,
Aaron Rodgers back to you in a corner and made
you look foolish. That's basically what he did. And you're right.
(51:45):
I mean, all of a sudden, now I think that
Randall Cobb is a gift. Uh. And Davante Adams and
Aaron Rodgers, they pulled the deal on Instagram. They had
that silhouette thing together. I mean, come out. It's amazing.
It's a joke, it really is. You know, if you're
a fan of the Green Bay Packers, I guess you're
happy Aaron Rodgers is back. But this is setting a
precedent that I think it's gonna happen down the road.
In sports, we started with James Harden. And the funny
(52:07):
thing was James Harden when he left Houston, what did
the moron owner of the Houston Rockets. Do they put
his jersey up in the rafters? Are you freaking kidding me?
Come on, give me a break. Stopping already make me sick.
You know what, though, Andy, when I think of Houston
as a former player, I love what they did. Why
(52:28):
And let's say not from the front office perspective, I
think that if I'm a if I'm a athlete now.
I looked at the way they handled James harden situation.
He gave him everything they that he had, and when
he wanted out that he sent him to the team
that he wants to go to. He wants to go
to the nets, he wants to compete for a championship.
And I think the pride was put aside from the
(52:52):
Houston Rockets and said we're gonna let James go and
compete for a championship because we couldn't get it done.
And we tried by every single measure. We got him
Chris Paul, we got him Dwight Howard. We tried to
make it happen and it just didn't happen. And in
amidst a a a the dynasty, you want to call
him a dynats the endy you can jump anytime, and
I'm wrong. The Golden State Warriors. You know everybody was
(53:14):
taking the Golden State Warriors had teams taken. They were
just it was just bad basketball. They knew they could
not compete for a championship. I agree with everything you say,
but why put his jersey up in the rafters that
I didn't want to be there? Why I just want
to be there, That's what I understand. And let me
ask you this. You would know this better than me
because I I don't look in the rafters in Houston.
Maybe you do when you played, because you were sitting
on the bench anyway, right, well, I'll say, is this
(53:35):
what what players jerseys are in the rafters? I hope
Calvin Murphy's jersey is up there, but Keim Elijah wants
jersey is up there. That's all I'm saying. I don't
know what jerseys are in the rafters in Houston. Yeah,
they gotta be there. The Drexler should be up there.
All those guys should be up there. But they know
there's no there's no James Harden And you don't have
to have your feelings in the way to just say
(53:55):
that James Harden was great for us. He gave the
city of Houston a run that nobody he expected. I
don't think there's anything wrong with being the bigger man
in this situation, because it does become organization versus player,
and things got ugly, and it just said, hey, man,
if we're gonna ever have piece as an organization, we
gotta do James Harden right. And James Harden deserves to
(54:15):
be in the Raptors. And even though he didn't give
a championship to Houston, I get it, Andy, But at
the end of the day, he changed Houston Rockets basketball
and they came the closest of anybody. And if he
let me know what I'm wrong, he came the closest
to anybody to knocking off of Kevin Durant addition to
(54:35):
a seventy win Warriors team, and that has to say something.
So he used to just saying, look, man, we appreciate you.
We appreciate you. You know why I love you because
everything you do is so positive and upbeating and I'm
such a really you're just so good, you're so kind,
You're really on and I can't handle it. I just
(54:57):
you're good. I just hope the goodness rub so fund me.
That's just the way you are. You put everything in perspective.
You planted it right out there. Yeah, he did great
for them, and that's good. And they let him go
in so nice and and everybody had a good time,
and that's great. You're wonderful. And to me, it's like,
you know, I gotta I gotta step back and take
a breath. But that's why I think it's good that
I'm with you, because you sort of balanced me. Otherwise
(55:17):
I go off the deep end really well. And the
thing about the organization was moving in a different direction,
and the frust ration with Kevin Durant le even think
about it. When Kevin Durant chose not to come back,
they had got rid of Serge Ibaka. They were starting
to make, you know, cuts there. And then Houston Rockets
also understood. They went and got Steven Silas and they're like,
hey man, it's time for a rebuild. So, you know,
moving on from James Harden happened a little earlier than
(55:40):
they maybe would have liked to as an organization. You know,
James kept in and jumped in and you know, kind
of put them under the gun. To make it happen.
But ultimately that's what I was gonna say now, and
now it's the kind of defendant's coming out right now. Well,
I say, why they got rid of James hard You
know why they had to James hard Hm had him
by the hangy downs. That's what James Harden had, the
Euston bockets. He had to Sston rockets right there, right
(56:01):
where he wanted him, by the hangy downs. And they
couldn't do anything else. So another to look good, they
let him go. Tellt him go to a team that
could compete, and they'll say, you know what, we're gonna
make it look good for the Finns that we really
didn't want to go. So we're gonna arnor him with
his jersey in the rain. They didn't put a Green
Bay Packers move man talk about he'll be playing Jeopardy
before he plays for another horrible man right there, all right,
(56:22):
he's my guy, my partner today, Mr Ryan Hollands. Get
him on Twitter at the Ryan Hollands or at Andy
from an fso or better yet eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox. That's our phone number. Eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine one NFL team
is already down one quarterback. Bruce Grantkowski. He's a quarterback
(56:42):
where he was? He tells you all about it. Next,
Bruce Grantkowski from Pro Football Focus and a former former
NFL professional quarterback and I restaurant tour in Northern Ohio
joining you shortly. But right now he's Ryan Hollans. I'm
Andy Ferman think that we're in for Jonas knocks up Brooks.
But now to the celebrity line with God because he
(57:03):
is much of a celebrity in the Buckeye State. The
One and Only Bruce Kratkowski with Ryan Hollins and Indy
from a Hello b K b. Gwire. Hey, what's up? Brother?
I'm doing good? How about you? Good to hear your
voices a voice you know? A question I have moving
into the seventeen game season. We haven't heard a lot
of this beforehand, but how is that going to alter
practice sessions and coaches kind of moving back a little
(57:27):
bit because of the on field workouts for fear of injury. Well,
I think you know, you know, training camp in the preseason,
it's been altered already, and you know, especially with this
off season with O t A s and stuff. They've
stopped some there was a lighter load than normal. So
I think this year, I think you're gonna see coaches
(57:47):
continue to coach as they would and practice as they
would this time of year. I think once you get
into the season, now coaches are going to be smart
how much they're you know, putting the pads on and
there's a limit on that any ways, and you just
have to take care of your guys. And you know
a lot of veteran coaches understand that. They understand that
now during training camp because you have a lot of
(58:08):
time to prepare. But you know, not now that I'm
a head coach in high school, I understand you got
you need all the reps you could get, so the
coach sometimes you get caught up in that. But I
think the veteran coach to understand take care of their guys.
It's a long season, and what's one more week added,
you know. I think it does start now during training camp,
but I also think during the season, that's where you'll
(58:29):
see coaches really kind of trying to navigate and maybe
help the schedule out a little bit with rest and
some of their guys. Bruce, you're talking about living limited practice. Man,
what's going on? Brother? I got a quarterback controversy going
on with with my my team, the forty Niners. Man,
who's gonna be the starting quarterback come week? One? Man?
(58:51):
And what what what are you seeing? If you're the
forty Niners? What would you be doing? You know? I
think the Niners. I would say Jimmy Green. You know.
I think Jimmy coming off an injury. We saw him
how he responded one when he toward the anh L
a few years ago, and next year took the Niners
to the Super Bowl. I think with his back against
the wall, I think he knows the offense he's been around.
(59:12):
I think he wins that job. But now it's gonna
be up to him to keep that job. I think
that will mostly benefit the team if he could play now,
Trey Lance can learn from him. Learn this sinism take
some time and develop. But at the end of the day,
Trey Lance is a big, strong dude. He can make
plays outside the pocket and that brings that added benefit
to that offense. But I think as of now, Jimmy
(59:34):
g is the guy, and with his back against the
wall like it is right now, he's got to play one,
and I think he's the Week one starter. He's Bruce
Gradkowski form an NFL quarterback, Pro Football Focus and also
restaurant tour in the Buckeye State. But the big story
I think in the NFL has to be with the
New Orleans Saints minus Drew Brees. Who's gonna be there?
Quarterback Taysom Hill, what Jamis Winston. Yeah, this is interesting.
(59:58):
You know last year, I get why Sean Paynton made
the move and started taking Hill during the year when
Drew Brees went out for about a month or so,
because Tayson he is a football player. You know, he's
in the game action. He's been playing every week, whether
special teams, wide receiver or some of the wildcot of package.
But I think to start a season with the upside
(01:00:18):
Damis Winston brings your offense. You know, the Saints were
close to last or I think Dead Last wrote to
PFF with the most persuniard throat targets last year. So
I think with with Winston at the home, it opens
up the playbook more as far as explosive plays downfield,
and now it's up to Winston to protect the football.
You know, the turnover worthy playing as we grant him
(01:00:41):
at PFF and that that's not gonna do for Sean
Payton's offense, especially coming out with Drew Brees, the guy
that protect the football pretty much better than anyone making
smart decisions. So hopefully Winston learned a lot behind Breeze
and I think with that that offense and Sean Payton
just be a really being a really good coach opens
(01:01:01):
the mind that he is. Um. I could see Winston
having a good year in that system. Bruce, we both
played our time in the league, different leagues, but you
got the expertise at the quarterback position. Talk to me
about Aaron Rodgers Man, what can you expect from Aaron?
Can we expect from Aaron going into into next season
amongst all the controversy? This is a guy that thrives
(01:01:22):
amongst the controversy or can he get to him a
little bit? Well, you know, I think you're right there.
I think he thrives, you know, with the controversy. I
think he loves having that chip on his shoulder. We
saw last year him come in after they drafted Jordan
Love and now this time offseason, everything that has gone on,
I think we're gonna say c Rogers play well. I
think him and Mattaford being together another year, offensive coordinator
(01:01:46):
Nathaniel Hackett, They're gonna continue to sround him do things
that he He excels that as we saw last year.
But it is hard to duplicate the reigning MVP season.
But you know his his boy Cobb is bad um.
I expect nothing from the best, you know, from Rogers,
but it'll be interesting to keep an eye on that
because there's gonna be things that come up all year
(01:02:08):
long as we watched this kind of soap opera unfold
and how that relationship is. And you know, do we
see Rogers in the Packers uniform next season? So it's
gonna be interested. Bruce Gradkoski, I'm gonna go and record
to say the last great quarterback that played for the
Chicago Bears was Sid Luckman. I never saw him play,
but I read about him, but Sid Luckman was the
(01:02:29):
last one. Can't get a quarterback that can't get the
decision right now? Is it gonna be Andy Dalton and
Justin Fields this year? You know this one's gonna be interesting.
I backed up Andy Dawn for a few years when
I was with the Bengals. Andy was always a smart quarterback.
He knew what to do, He was accurate, He has
a good arm, and I think the Bears have missed that.
(01:02:50):
They have not had an accurate pastor like that in years,
and that's what they missed. And I think you're gonna
really see what Matt Maggie offense can do with Dalton
at the him. But man, if they spot her at all,
it's gonna be just a Field's job to take over.
But I expecting to be the guy. I expect him
to play pretty well the Bears. And there they have,
(01:03:11):
you know, a tough start, you know against the Rams.
I think it is and you know, if they could
go to to start the season the first four games,
I think, but you gotta win some games to keep
the Bears fans fans calmed down a little bit because
everyone's gonna want to see just the field. But I
have confidence Andy done being that better and connectecute. This
(01:03:32):
opens pretty well, Bruce, talk talk to me here, man,
I don't know what you're staying with this? Am I crazy?
Are we crazy to be hearing that the Dallas Cowboys
are gonna be much improved? Looking like a playoff team.
Have you been impressed by the decisions they made in
the off season? How much faith do you have, Like
I said, you played the position in a healthy Dak Prescott. Well,
(01:03:54):
you know, every year we look at the Cowboys on paper,
and you know, we think they're gonna be a player contender,
you know, possibly pushing for a Super Bowl. But you know,
and I think the fans want to see that, but
I don't see that being the case. I think they'll
be competitive. They have offensive firepower, they have the weapons.
Doc and Kellen Moore have been together for a while.
(01:04:15):
Um so I expect the offense to kind of pick
up where it left off when that that was healthy.
But you gotta understand too, they need to defense to
step up as well. I think there is gonna be
some you know, adjustments from Dak coming back and so
forth like that. Now, I think they'll be competitive, But
now how how competitive will they be is going to
(01:04:35):
be the question. And you know that's gonna be fun
to tune in and watch and you know, hopefully hopefully
they surprised a lot of people and do really explode
back on the scenes. But um, I think as a
football team, they have the weapons offensively, but we'll see defensively,
defensively if they can step up. Bruce, I'm gonna leave
you with this. You've gotta be honest with us on
(01:04:55):
this question. Right now. I want to know if the
Indianapolis Colts have already told you to come out of retirement. Hey,
you know they should. I'll just tell you that, yes,
you know, if you if you guys know friend Wright,
give him a holler, because I'll just go put some
put some oil on the shoulder. I'll be ready to go.
(01:05:16):
My legs feeling good. I can operate that Frank Wright system.
He does a great job, and I think it's pretty
friendly to the quarterback. So I can handle that. So
you're saying that should he call, you be ready to serve.
Should he call, I'll be in Indianapolis in three and
a half hours. That's the fun. How far it is
from Toledo. So you know I may stir some stuff
(01:05:40):
off for you this way, Bruce, I might do that
for you. Go ahead, brother, I feel good, all right, good,
Thank you, Bruce. Hey, give us your social media handles
so people get get ahold of you. Yeah, be Gradkowski
five and be grand zero five on on Instagram. So
I appreciate you guys have a good weekend. I appreciate
(01:06:01):
CNN Indy. There you go. He's Bruce grad Casket. But
my partner right now is Ryan Hollins. I'm Andy Fermant.
We're in for Knox and Brooks right here on Fox
Splits Saturday. Hey, the Beg's are packed. But what's next
We'll tell you, But first we're going to David Gascon
with the latest guys. San Francisco and Houston a good
one right now. Giants have seven runs on twelve. It's
a couple of airs that's kept Houston this game. Giants
(01:06:23):
leads seven a six show. Hey, will tell you what
the only base not so far, it's for the Angels.
They lead right now one to nothing over the Oakland
A's this camp taking place in Anaheim. On FS one,
Tiggers and Orioles are scoreless. Boston three, Tampa two. This
game just got underway. It's in the bottom of the
first thing from Tampa. Yankees that pounced on the Marlins
early on one to nothing. A couple of notes off
(01:06:45):
the field. Marlins skipper Don matting Lee, who's vaccinated contract
to the coronavirus, he has mild symptoms. Will be on
for a few days kind of glass now expected to
have Tommy John surgery next week, so he'll be on
for a bit as well. On top of ball that
podres are waiting for the status and from now and
tattoos Junior's shoulder. He dislocated it last night sliding in
(01:07:06):
the third base. That's the third time he has popped
it on the year. I mean, while switching gears to
what's going on right now in the National Football League.
Justin Houston's now at Baltimore. Raven DeVante Freeman's reached an
agreement with the New Orleans Saints. Guys. Back to you,
all right, we'll see you now, Mr Gascon. Of course,
of course we're here for Bucky Brooks and Jonas Naxies,
(01:07:27):
Ryan Hollins and Mandy Ferman. I'm gonna ask the question,
what does the future look like? That's coming right up.
But I'll tell you what the future right now. For
Bruce Kratkoski. We may have something over here, Ryan, because
I'm writing the letter to the Colts. I'm gonna tellhim
Bruce's number, and you know what, he may cut me
some slock. He may cut me a little a couple
of some coin over there. If he gets in, what
do you think? Hey, look, Jake Cutler, you know the
(01:07:48):
Miami Dolphins gave him a call when they had some
you know, some injuries go down and needed experienced guya
And you know what, in that position, you just need
someone who can run the show man. Hell yeah, and
I got Bret Huntley. I I understand this guy couldn't
make the Dallas what's up brewing? Now? Man, watch your mouth,
But I think Bruce got it all over him. I
really do. Well, we'll see. We'll see. By the way,
we got the Iowa minute in less than ten minutes.
(01:08:09):
Coming up what I was saying. But back to colleges.
You mentioned the Bruins, but it seems that Texas and
Oklahoma they've got their next conference destination figured out. They're
leaving the Big Twelve, They're going to the SEC. But
the question I have, what about the other eight schools?
Where are they gonna do? Just Just let them hang? What's
happening with the Big twelve? Well it dissolved, is that
the question? Are you there? Yeah? Let's if I was
(01:08:37):
a Big Twelve man, I wouldn't know what to do, right,
now that that that moment of silence was for the conference. Um.
I even heard rumblings that they may make a mega
conference with the pack with the Pack uh well twelve
at the time, it may turn into like a Pack
twenty or something, and uh, you know, one of the
pills don't quote me on this, is that I'm hearing
(01:08:59):
from behind the scenes some of the people saying is that,
you know, the recruiting could get into Texas and that
would be huge for the Pack Pack twelve. I'm dating myself.
So I'm intrigued to see where are you going to
go because you're losing the moneymakers in Texas and Oklahoma
and Texas already you know, they had their you know,
started the Texas Network and all that, so you know,
(01:09:19):
you kind of saw things coming there. So I'm intrigued
to see where it goes. I think they may split
in though their separate directions or you know, I've been trigued.
Would you like to see a twenty eighteen nineteen team
conference the Pack twenty. I don't know if I like
the ring of that, but hey, if it works out,
and what do your schedule? But how do your schedule games?
That's the thing now, this is unbelievable. I just read
this in CBS Sports. The a a C, not the
(01:09:40):
a C C, the American Athletic Conference. They're a technic
right now to take all eight remaining members of the
Big Twelve. It's unbelievable. As things stand right now, there
are eleven football and basketball members in the a a C,
with Navy in which it does stay switching out now.
SMU is the furthest west as the conference goes, and
Temple being all the way up there in Philadelphia location
(01:10:02):
does not scare the conference. But what happens there the
a C. The question that becomes whether or not the
A C will become a powerhouse football conference. Now, if
they got Oklahoma State and TCU, that's a pretty good
fit right there. They're getting in there with the big boys.
You see, f University of Central Florida's there, and they
got Gus mile Zone. I was the new coach Cincinnati.
I'm pretty familiar with them there in the top ten
(01:10:23):
by Sporting News this year list of the top ten
and football Memphis is pretty good and those two teams
have made New Year's Six Bowl games recently, so this
could be very interesting. I mean, living in the Cincinnati area.
I'd love to see the a C absorbed these teams
because I'd love to see those teams play in my area. Yeah,
it was sufferently speaking. I I hear you, man, And
you know, it's always funny. You never think about the
(01:10:44):
business behind the scenes, the athletic directors having to figure
out what the best courses and and and keep in mind,
you know, these athletes can be paid now, so where
they go is gonna handle. You're thinking about recruiting, You're
thinking about location where you can play the conference. Do
you want to be the big dog in the conference
or do you just want to be another team in
the conference? Obviously Texas and Oklahoma said we want to
(01:11:07):
join the SEC to have a chance to compete for
a national championship every year, and we want to boost
our recruiting. So, you know, you got some questions at
hand to be made. I know the Pac twelve has
some work to do to get back, and you know,
basketball was definitely huge and in March madness for the
Pac twelve. So you know, I think you've got options there. Man,
I'm intrigued to see the way this goes. Yeah. I
(01:11:30):
read the other day that the Pack twelve commissioner says, quote,
we're not aggressively looking. What are you an idiot? You're
not aggressively looking for schools. These schools are begging. They're
they're hanging out with one finger on the side of
a ship. They're seeking, and he's not aggressively looking. To
expand his conference, I mean, the pac twelve needs some exposure,
and it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some
Pack twelve schools out of the Pacific time zone so
(01:11:52):
people could see them in a normal hour on TV.
That wouldn't be bit but us right now, zoning and
geography means nothing in conferences. You to be something. Rivalries
used to mean something. Time zones used to be something.
I mean West Virginia right now in the Big twelve
they're playing schools in two other time zones in the
state of Colorado. What's crazy. But it doesn't mean a thing. Yeah, no,
(01:12:13):
that you'll think when hey, hey, I would say you
one thing, brother, we ain't figured out one thing. Listen, Andy,
if if the money's there, the travel will be there.
We don't care if we're playing west coast to east
coast travel. Man, if the money's there, we'll figure it
out and make it happen. And I think I'm a static,
you know, if I'm a collegiate athlete now here, you
gotta travel a little further, you gotta do a little more.
(01:12:34):
But hey, at the end of the day, if I
have a chance to compete for a national championship, I'm
now getting a paycheck. So my inconvenience is getting paid for.
And I can move out of the you know, the
dorms and the suites and and and live in a
nice little match in three or four bedroom place. Right now,
come on and he talk to you. No, you're right,
But you know what, It's funny. If you're an athletic
thir do you have a tough decision on your hands,
not only what are you gonna do or what conference
(01:12:55):
you may move to. Do you want to be, as
you say, a big fish in a little pond, or
you want to go for the green backs, you want
to go for the green cabbage or the guilt? What
do you do? You go for the money, you go
for the fame. Well maybe maybe money comes with fame.
I don't know. Maybe be a little fish, you know,
maybe be a little fish in the pack. Twelve. I
think I think that be intriguing to see. Uh, you know,
the strength of conference would be we would be tough.
(01:13:17):
And like you said I mentioned earlier, you gotta think
about recruiting. You just go anywhere you want to recruit
the conference recruits. You know, I remember going to u c.
L A thinking, hey man, I get to play Arizona
every year and and Stanford and you know Oregon and
Oregon State. You know that meant something at the time.
So you know, the conference that you play is important.
(01:13:37):
And think about like I said, Texas joining the SEC,
they're gonna be talking about, hey man, you're you're you're
we're playing Alabama, we're playing Clips and we know we're
we're up there with the big dogs. And that's why
that move was made. So uh, it's intriguing to see.
And and it's business on the line. So let's say
it is the PAC twelve. They may say, man, well, shoot,
we don't want everybody. We we want Tech and TCU
(01:13:58):
and and and not every body. Now, if you're the
remaining teams left, you're saying, are we coming as a
package deal? So you know, be intriguing to see how
things happen. Behind the scenes when a little money gets
thrown out. You know, it's funny. They always talk about
they're gonna band together and do this, but when it
comes to shove, it's always like, the hell with you.
Whatever is best for me, I'm gonna do. Although they
(01:14:18):
did say that Texas and Oklahoma bonded together to do
this move, you hurt me more than anything else. That
was Texas Tech got into the SEC. Uh when when
they were there, they was supposed be the only Texas
school in the SEC and basically they were not even
informed about the movement between Texas and Oklahoma going to
the SEC, which I think is crazy. I mean, there's
anybody isn't anybody's word bond anymore doesn't mean anything. When
(01:14:41):
you shake someone's hand, say you know, you're gonna be
the only school in the lone Star state to represent
this conference, I guess it doesn't mean anything. You know,
money supersede honesty, the truth, whatever it may be. I mean,
money will will take care of everything, and that's the
end of it. That's what it's all about. I mean, Andy,
they kind of did have the athletes playing for free
(01:15:04):
that I mean, they're still technically playing for free. All
that they said is that hey, somebody else can pay
you guys. It doesn't just have to come up from
us anymore. Right, Well, I mean that's good. It's the
only business on God's green Earth that that that the
workers don't get paid. And you think people are gonna
say they're got a free scholarship. So much so the
band members. You know, you get a math scholarship, you
(01:15:25):
get a band scholarship. So but these guys are sweating,
sweating daily to three hours a day in practice and
missing classes and they should get paid because, you know what,
they bring a lot of revenue into the school and
more than that, they probably bring a lot of students
in the school as well. And just my point, you
know your question in integrity there goes. You shouldn't be surprised.
There Here go Ryan Hollands Andy Ferman in for Jonahs
(01:15:47):
Knocks and Bucky Brooks on Fox Sports Saturday, right here
on Fox Sports Radio. And here's the place that's great
to be from. Far from yet we're gonna go there
for at least a minute. I think I will a minute.
It's freaking next. I a minute right around the corners
about twelve minutes before at the top of the hour.
This is Fox Sports Saturday. He is Ryan Hollins. I'm
Andy Ferman. We are in for Jonas Knocks Bucky Brooks.
(01:16:10):
But don't be a favor that I will admit a
coming right up. Do me if you tell me when
it's over. Please just tell me when it's over. Let's
go to the Iowa Minute right now. Boy, Howdy, Andrew Dice,
Clay Furman, welcome back to the Iowa Minute. And I
do believe this is punishment in some states in some countries.
I do believe this is Ryan Hollins. Is first Ryan
the Iowa Bullet Train. Well, Mr Hollins, you could be
(01:16:33):
excused if you want to first is yeah. I definitely
do not remember this music ever being played while on air. This,
uh yeah, well this is in this We do the
Iowa Minute on this show in this time slot. So
welcome aboard the Iowa I was not able to do
my Iowa Minute last Saturday because I switched shifts with
(01:16:53):
a fellow co worker. So the talented and famed Dan
Buyer did the Iowa Minute. And I haven't heard it yet,
but from what I've been told, Dan did the Iowa
Minute in about ten seconds, which is just very disrespectful
and disappointing to the reputable and esteemed Iowa minute. That's
all it is. It is. Well, no, Dan, the Iowa
minute deserves more. Ok do it already? I am doing
(01:17:16):
it right now. Wow the irreverence right there from Dan Byer.
You guys just heard of me, just laughed right in
my face. Unreal. Okay, enough of this poppy cock. Here
we are loaded today. Let's take talk some recent happenings
the NBA draft. Now only Iowa, uh the quote basketball powerhouse,
and I have that in quotation marks. Iowa had two
(01:17:36):
players taken in the draft, both in the second round.
And by the way, Iowa, along with eight other schools,
had two players taken first off the board for Iowa
with the eleventh pick of the second round, forty feet
overall small forward Joe west Camp going to the Spurs.
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, how's this for a segue.
Joe west Camp was the fifty four Hawkeye all time
(01:17:59):
to be drafted in the NBA. The next talk, I
drafted fifty five all time war number fifty five at Iowa.
During his illustrious career at Iowa, I'd rather be drafted
in the Forces and live in Iowa. How's that? Yeah,
well you live you live in the Midwest, so you
can't say much there. Unanimous All American and the consensus
player of the Year in college basketball, Luca Gazas now
(01:18:22):
Detroit Piston, taking number twenty two in the second round,
number fifty two overall and has prieusly mentioned previously mentioned
the number fifty five Hawkeye taken all time in the
NBA Draft. Before being drafted, Garza was named the one
Big Ten Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year, Iowa's
first since two thousand eight. Ryan Hollins, you're on the spot.
(01:18:43):
You thought this was a segment where you could just
eat your bing cherries and mentally check out wrong. Wrong. First,
do you know anything about west Camp or Garza and
will either of them accumulate stats the NBA tell me now,
joe Wise Camp is a knockdown shooter. Yes, very good
for the Spurs them. The Spurs need shooting. This couldn't
(01:19:06):
be any more excellent of a position. And someone could
argue the best shooter in the draft Joey's Camp. I
make sure I shot my man. Luca Garza text yesterday congratulative.
Could not be happier for the young man. I think
it's an excellent situation. You got kid Cunningham there, and
the one thing that Luca Garza can do is score
(01:19:26):
the basketball, and in today's NBA it is filled with mismatches.
I gave him an NBA comp and I told him,
I said, you've got to be in his cancer. Maybe
that the most fleet of foot, maybe not the greatest defender,
but you have to punish the boards and be a
monster on the glass. And he's a much better shooter
than Cantor. Might I add that was good with Cunningham
(01:19:47):
and Garza. That's pretty good in Detroit Rock City now.
And yes, Enis Cantor was the comp. I heard a
lot leading up to the draft. By the way, guys,
a handful of coach that I was signed contract extensions,
including I have a men's basketball coach, fran McCaffrey. Waho. Okay.
That's enough of the Hartys. Uh. There are three other
schools in the Iowa minute map here, one of which
Iowa State is ready to smite the Sooners and the
(01:20:09):
Longhorns as they desert. The Big twelve four Cyclones are
on the Walter Camp Award preseason watch list, linebacker Mike Rose,
running back Breeze Lightning Hall, tight end Charlie the Polar
Bear Cohler, and quarterback Brock Purty. Okay, speaking of watchless unfortunately,
back to the Iowa Hawk eyes for a moment. Iowa
(01:20:30):
football running back Tyler Goodson has landed on the Maxwell
Award watch list as well as the Doak Walker Award
watch list. And this is pretty cool, guys, definitely earned
and possibly overdue. Where's my music there? It is? Uh? Really?
Iowa Football has named its field Slater Field in honor
(01:20:51):
of Duke Slater. He played at Iowa over Snyder US.
Later he played at Iowa over a hundred years ago.
He was the first black lineman in NFL history, and
after football he went on to a prestigious career as
a lawyer and a judge. And with apologies to Northern Iowan,
Drake will close with this, Andy, you have heard of
(01:21:11):
slipnot have you not? No? The man slipnot? No? Oh?
All right? Well, sadly there where they're founding drummers. Uh.
Joey Jordanson passed away at the young age of forty
six after a battle with a rare form of MS
and that's your eye a minute. Thank you very much.
By the way, he won the war, but will they
win the games? That and much more Fox Sports Saturday next.
(01:21:35):
He proved his power off the field. Will explain that
in just about a minute. But right now it's time
to say he is my partner, the tallest man and
talk radio today Mr Ryan islands On and they firmer together.
We're replacing fort least for the day, Jonas Knocks and
Bucket Brooks. So, Mr Hollins, how's it rolling. We're an
hour number three of the Power Hour. How are you?
What's up? Brother? I'm doing good man, everything's great here.
(01:21:58):
You know you keep unasking why I gonna give out
the the Czech Republic score against the USA basketball team.
I'm giving out the score again. The USA won because
people who did not see it this morning, but they
didn't want to pay the peacock the money for it. Uh,
They're gonna be rude tonight because I gave him the
score right now. That's why I keep on giving the score.
That's why I'm doing it. One f Durant k d
(01:22:22):
love and shooting and I'm sorry, just just the way
it is. That's it. What can I tell you? I'm
a mean kind of guy. No, No, Andy, the game
was on. It wasn't on the regular NBC was on Peacock,
wasn't it. I didn't say it. I was, well, not me.
Maybe I didn't pay my bill. I don't know. No,
I didn't watch it on Tide, but I watched the rebounds.
He watched the replay. Yea, yeah, you know you didn't
(01:22:42):
watch it live. I went gonna watch it live at
eight A in Easton. Couldn't find it. Sorry, And that's okay,
no big deal, you know. And I want to talk
about the Olympics first second, if I may, all right,
I don't know how far the US of a basketball
team is gonna go. I think they got a pretty
good shot now with this win today to bypass some
of the heavies. And I think gold is in reach.
I really do. I think the gold medal is a possibility.
(01:23:03):
But I look at these athletes and I don't see Honestly,
I really don't. I don't see the cohesion. I don't
see the unity of a team. Rather, I do see
individualism where it's all about me, It's all about my brand.
What can I do after the Olympics to earn an
extra buck doing commercials? Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe I'm way
(01:23:24):
out of you know, I see the women's soccer team
and that a great winning. The goalkeeper had like three
penalty kickstops the other day. It was unbelievable, it really was.
But when I see them standing out there on the
podium for the medal, I see a Megan Rapino, you know, kneeling,
and then I see an African American teammate with our
hand on our heart. What's the deal here? You're either
(01:23:46):
in or you're out. You gotta be together. It's a team,
isn't it. No, in this situation, these are all individual cases.
You know, as far as the flag, it's going to
represent something different than every body. Maybe whether you're African
America or not. Maybe America is not where you want
to be, or you don't believe in some of the values,
(01:24:06):
some maybe religious. Everybody has a different stance and take.
So this is is this isn't a team matter. You
know that you come together as a team on the
field or on the court. But I think as far
as standing or kneeling her or how you choose to
appropriate the national anthem. Uh, it's a personal decision, you
know what. I'm hearing what you're saying. But I think
(01:24:27):
on the on the Olympic stage, where the world sees you,
I think it's a slap on the phase the United
States of America when when someone neils for whatever the reason,
I just think that at least for that deal for you,
for you accepting a gold medal or any medal for
your country where in your country's colors, the least you
could do withstand for whatever belief you may have. Really
you may hate the country, but in front of the
(01:24:49):
rest of the world, at least stand up. I haven't
seen anybody from any other country, Neil, I haven't, you know.
And I think that we're a little bit better than
most of the countries that are competing of the Olympics,
I think, right, I mean, life is pretty good here.
It really is beauties in the eye of the beholder. Man.
You know, there there's there's things that everybody can be
(01:25:11):
upset about. Like I said, I don't think we're definitely
not in the place to judge anybody. I do understand.
Maybe I think your mindset is saying if you don't
believe in what the country has the offer. You shouldn't
be going to the Olympics. You know, you should be
boycotting all together. So why get all the way there
and then and then do it? So I do I
do understand from that aspect, but you know, the reality
(01:25:31):
is is maybe someone has a different view. Hey, I
want to compete. I love my country, but I don't
love where it's at the point in time. You know,
I want to do things to get better. You know. Yeah,
I'm not saying that they shouldn't compete. Lucky you bust
your but for four years to work out, and you
do that every single day of your life. You want
to be on the stage with the greatest stathletes of
the world to show how good you may be. I
get it. And you want to win the Meddle. That's okay,
But I think that the team should do something in
(01:25:53):
a team fashion. You know, everybody look either everybody kneels
or everybody. But that's tough though. And I say this
and keep it in perspective. Let's say an African American male,
they're saying justice for all and this and that. But
you know, every every time you walk down the black block,
as an African American male, You're treated different by the policeman.
You know, you're pulled over where a a teammate of yours.
Even though you're coming together and your team and your
(01:26:15):
you're you're thicker than you know, you don't have the
same inexperience experiences. You know, the one thing that I
lo love about sports and music, there's only a few
things any that that bring us together. Their international their
universal languages. When I played in Spain, I had a
couple of teammates who couldn't say a word of English.
But when that ball went up, my point guard knew
(01:26:35):
how to throw me the ball right to the top
of the backboard. I go up and get it for him.
You know, we didn't have to speak the same language
to be able to do that. And we went out
to eat. We broke bread and laughed and enjoyed each other.
Like I said, whether he knew English or not, it's
a sports as a universal language. But we do all
have different experiences, and I think that goes for each
and every country. You know, we're not the only country
that has police brutality or racism. You know, no, you're
(01:27:00):
you're you're exactly right and Look, everybody has their own beliefs.
But you know, and this this is my belief that
when I see that, it just looks awkward to me
that Megan Rapino is kneeling and our teammate has our
hand on our heart. It's just an awkward look. It
really is. I mean to me, it was. Maybe to
others it wasn't, you know, maybe to others like, this
is great, this is what America is all about. You
could express yourself in any way you want to. So
(01:27:21):
maybe maybe I'm off base. You know, I'm unwilling to
him with that if in fact I am, if anybody
wants to challenge me on that eight seven seven ninety
nin Fox. But you're speaking about what's going on the Olympics.
The one thing I fear is the fact that the
COVID situation is is spreading that something like what hundred
and thirty athletes are ready that have been affected with
the COVID. We have a high jumper. I believe it
was that that basically had to leave the Olympics because
(01:27:44):
of that. And today's history comes out of Richmond, Virginia
with the Washington football team, their coach Ron Rivera. He
now issues a warning to his team if the two
more players were placed on the reserve COVID nineteam lists,
giving his players get this a what if scenario, He says,
if this had happened the day before the season opener,
it would impact the first two games. It's unbelievable to
the Washington football team now has six players on the
(01:28:06):
reserve COVID nine teamless. This isn't a good thing. And
one of the guys a big name receiver Curtis Samuel,
another starter, he's already on the list, and they have
a key reserve defensive tackle as well. And I look
at the numbers of the NFL and some of the
players unwilling to take the vaccination. Again, you know, it's
your body, do what you want to do. But again,
this is also a team situation where you're not only
(01:28:28):
hurting yourself, you're hurting your teammates, and you may be
hurt in the league. So I don't know what I
would do if I was involved there. What would you
do if in fact you were playing playing NBA or
playing in the NFL, which doesn't have a bubble by
the way, you know, for me, like I said, I
think this falls under individual choice I am vaccinated um.
But when I got COVID, a lot of people are
(01:28:50):
under you know, different beliefs. I got it it done
here took me out, bro Like Andy, I was doing bad.
I saw. I'm not gonna say I was gonna die,
but I saw death. And I'm young, and I was
working out four or five times a week, you know,
and and and it it just completely just just put
me on my behind. You know. I was bedridden man
for for probably about three weeks, you know, and I
(01:29:12):
just did not see myself getting better. So, you know,
when it came vaccination time, I said, man, it might
be good or bad for me, but I know COVID
darnia killed me. So I need this vaccination. And everybody
has different beliefs and different feelings with it, you know.
So some people feel like you're gonna get it one
way or the other. So, uh, I'm amongst the few
(01:29:32):
that have just really been knocked out by it at
a at a young age. And I'll share this to
My daughter is only four years old, and we had
the rush hert to the ear. And they're talking about
kids don't get infected by My daughter could barely breathe,
you know, and that's a scary places as a parent.
So you know, COVID is serious, you know, But like
I said, everybody deals with their body and their own ways.
I had a number of friends and family that got
(01:29:53):
it and said, well, I lost sense of taste and smell.
I mean, my my wife had it for an evening
and then tested negative to the very next weekend. You know. So,
like I said, everybody, it gets hit different way, and
everybody approaches it. It feels different ways about their body.
And even I'll say this, you know, Andy, I don't
know how you feel. I'm sure you probably are vaccinated too. Well.
I was nervous getting the vaccination. I'm like, man, what's
(01:30:14):
gonna happen to me? You know what? Let me just
say this, I'm vaccine. Got both of them. My wife
got both of them. My wife had COVID and she
had it. I'm not gonna say real serious, but she
had it. And even to this day she has a
problem with her sense of smell, which which shows me nuts.
And the doctor said eventually it may come back, but
it may not, but she's living with it. She smells
certain things, but basically the entire sense of smell is gone.
(01:30:35):
You know, as far as uh, the COVID situation, you know,
you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean, I
understand that it's your body, but uh, you know, I
would say this, it's just a crazy situation. And as
far as the NFL is concerned, let me run this
by you. If you're an NFL player, I have to
assume that you played high school football. Correct, we were
(01:30:57):
on the same pip. If you played high school, if
you played high school up all in this great country
of ours, you how to have taken a shot for polio, mumps, measles,
whenever it may be. You how to be vaccinated for that.
So why in the hell wouldn't you take a vaccination
for COVID? That I don't understand think that. I think
the scary thing is I don't even know if I
(01:31:17):
can say the miseducation, because COVID is something that we're
still trying to figure out, right, So people are scared
to be in a since experimented on. And let's let's
say this happens. Let's say you have a team. And
I'm just hypotheticals. I'm no medical expert that everybody is
fully vaccinated. Now my understanding that even while being fully vaccinated,
you can get to the delta strand. So you know what,
(01:31:39):
what are the not as serious, not as serious as
if you were vaccinated. Well, I'm just saying from my standpoint,
you may be right. I'm saying I don't specifically no,
but I'm throwing a scenario out there. So some people
are saying, hey, I'm gonna get it one way or another.
You know, there's some people getting it too, maybe even
three times. So they're saying, you know, some of the
players may say, I'd rather fight this thing off naturally
then not. You know, does it make you more successible?
(01:32:01):
I don't know it. And to my understanding, what the
polio virus said, all all those other vaccines, they were
came straight from the strand of the disease, and they
were proved by the FDA that I get it, because
a lot of people say to me, well, I'm not
gonna get it because it's not going to prove by
the FDA yet, and it will be, but it has
been a proof yet. And some others say that they
don't trust the vaccines somebody because it was kind of
(01:32:22):
developed too quickly. Other vaccines have taken four or five
six years to develop. But you know what, just just
the state of science nowadays, they're amazing. They got it
done quickly. Yeah, yeah, no, And listen, man, Like I said,
it's a scary place. We also understand that the NFL
is a business, and I think that you know, to
whatever terms the business, you do have to run the
(01:32:44):
risk of possibly losing your job or being sent home,
or having to meet different demands because of the safety
of other players. And you know, if you choose not
to get vaccinated, I think to the to the respect
of others, you've gotta you know, you may have to
do extra measures. You may have to get into practice
in our early to do testing. You may you may
want to do your share of quarantining. You know, Like
(01:33:05):
I said, I'm not the expert, but if that's something
you're not comfortable with, you gotta be fine with having
due to extra stuff. Man, we've all in this time
been inconvenient, okay, Like like I said, none of us
have a leg to stand on. We got medical professionals
and doctors and nurses out there risking their lives for
us each and every day, you know what I'm saying.
And they were doing that right in the midst of
the things. So you know, I don't think any of
(01:33:25):
us are in a position outside of that field to
really be questioning, you know, what's going on or talk
about inconveniences. You know what they had to work straight
through to make sure that some people can make it.
I'd be willing to say this that, and I'm sorry
to hear that you contracted COVID, but I'm thank goodness
that you're okay now. But after you had it, a
while you were having it, and when you decided to
(01:33:46):
take the vaccine, I would venture it against that. People
who are very close to you, family, friends, whatever, saying wow,
Ryan Hollins, big strong guy, professional basketball player, athlete, great shape,
he got it. I'm gonna get my rear end over
around getting the vaccine. I'm sure you created a lot
of people getting the vaccine. Yeah. Yeah, Like I said,
I'm no, no, no medical expert. But I just felt
(01:34:06):
like COVID just hit me different in a way. I've
never been sick like that in my life. It was scary,
and I just said, hey, man, if this thing can
almost take me out, I'm gonna try to take any
fighting chance. I can't go at it. Like I said,
these are all personal choices from anybody or educational choices,
and I know we don't may not have all of
(01:34:27):
the answers. You know, Listen, man, it's scary, andy when
you're talking to your doctor and you're naming symptoms and
your doctor's going, well, well, I don't know, you know,
maybe maybe uh maybe ice for the fever. You know,
what else are you having? Okay, that's interesting, like what
tell me what's going on with my body? And they
don't have all the answers. Did you have any reaction
to the shot? After the shot? After the second man
(01:34:49):
the shot? I was good when I had the shot.
Maybe my arm stung a little bit, but you know,
having the shot, you know, it was nothing. And like
I said, I understand the mindset of that, Hey, you
get the shot and if you can and still get
COVID or you may have adverse reactions. You know, I
told somebodyle, hey, if you have an adverse reaction, that
means if you got the actual COVID, you might have
died from it, you know. So it's it's scary regardless,
(01:35:10):
And like I said, I'm no medical expert, so don't
quote me on anything I'm saying. And these are all
personal choices that we've all got to go in and make.
But if you are in corporate America, you work in business,
big business. There's billions of dollars and correct me from
scrolling around the NFL, the NBA, and you choose not
to be vaccinated, No, you may have to go through
some extra steps, and you gotta have respect for the
(01:35:30):
people that you work with and around. Here at the studio,
we don't go around sneezing each other's face and slap
her hands. We wear a mask, we we we quarantine,
we take we take care of each other, you know,
And there's a respect level where when I go home,
I ain't going out and just partying and being around
people because I gotta come to work and I gotta
see my family. You know, at work, this is a family.
(01:35:50):
You know. I gotta take care of you guys. You're
going home to see your wife and kids after that.
So we all have these personal responsibilities to each other. Well,
I would tell you this. I took my second that
knocked me on my ear end. I had a hundred
and three fever. I was out of it, but you know,
I knew that it was working, and that's why I
had that reaction. But I'll say this, I get allergy
allergy shots every month. My allergy shot is worse than
(01:36:11):
the COVID shot. I mean the reaction I had put
on blows because in summertime it's like really bad my eyes,
you know, tearing and sneezing and my ears get clogged.
I mean, I got allergies. Fair I'm gonna allergic to
everything everything you name it. I'm allergic to it, really,
But I get the shots. And and the funny thing is,
I mean that's kind of like a good gimmick, the
allergy shot, because I often wonder how bad would it
be if I didn't have the shot. I mean, it's
(01:36:32):
pretty bad now, but probably the worse, I guess. I
don't know, but I keep on going. I'm going for
the last five years for allergy shots. But that's undo
the story. No one cares about me and my allergy shots.
We move on. He's Ryan Hollands. You can get him
on Twitter at the Ryan Hollins or at Andy ferman
fs Are or better yet, we'd love to hear from you.
How do you do that? Eight seven seven Fox eight
(01:36:52):
seven seven six three, six, nine lines are open. Operators
are waiting for you. But some ideas are just not discussing.
They're not worth discussing. They're really not. We're gonna mention
this one anyway. That's next. Nice try, but I won't work.
We'll explain that in just about a minute. So what
do you do? A minutes past the hour? This is
Fox Sports Saturday on Fox Sports. Ready. He is Ryan Hollins,
(01:37:16):
I'm Andy Furman. Were in for Jonas Knox and Bucky
Brooks and right now we have a caller in Texas
who wants to chat with Ryan Hollands. His name is Jimmy. Jimmy,
You're on Fox Sports Saturday with Ryan Hollands and Andy Furman. Hello, James,
how are you? I'm doing great? Hey guys, great show.
You guys are hitting about everything. You know. I wanted
to know. You're a dental history too, are going medical?
(01:37:38):
How are you? So? I was really you guys have
been jumping around. I'm gonna focus on football and just
it'll be interesting to see some of these quarterback battles. Uh.
I'm you know, people are talking to Zack Wilson may
or may not sign Um Winces hurt in Annapolis. He
signed Zach Wilson signed with the Jets here. Yeah, I
(01:37:58):
think yesterday, late yesterday. That's why I've been I've been
driving a lot. So Um, that's good news for the Jets.
I'm actually happy for them and give them a chance.
People watch the San Francisco but here people are talking
Aaron Rodgers is back for a year. People forget that
that that Green Bay packer um front office and the
coach even are all gone. They allot of them went
(01:38:18):
to the front office at Cleveland, Brown's and McCartney now
of courses with the Cowboys. So there is no one's
talking about it, but there is that chance, like Tom
Brady leaves and goes to Tampa Bay, Aaron Rodgers is
out and maybe maybe Dak Prescott can't get healthy. Well,
then they signed Aaron. They saying, Aaron Rodgers with Cowboys
and reunited with the coach. So it's gonna be a
(01:38:39):
lot of interesting quarterback stories. How soon as Justin Field's
gonna play. Oh in one last thing. Um, that's enough
quarterback in football. But Iowa saying's got to give some
more love to Iowa State Cyclones. They're gonna beat the
Iowa Hawks and and let's let's let's not forget that
Iowa Hawk eyes are the most overpaid underbook, I mean
(01:39:00):
college football step in the history of Matt Campbell will
be the coach of the year in Iowa State. Especially
they beat Texas in Oklahoma. Now, that's the last thing
I want to finish on Texas. So you, I think
that's great for ow you. I think Texas might be
in football, might be uh ls you and maybe just
(01:39:21):
old missed. They might not. They might even beat Texas
in him. They'll play. That's good. That's a good thing.
They'll be able to play Texas and m Texas. We
love to see that. Lovelay. That's gonna be great. I
don't think Texas is ready for Alabama, Florida, Georgia. Texas done.
What does Texas break to the table football wise? I
mean that at a name. They got money obviously, and
they got supporters, brothers and that success wise, they haven't
(01:39:43):
done much. Oklahoma is a different story that one of
the title. But I think Oklahoma will do. That's a
good move for them. They will do very well against Alabama, Georgia,
Florida in the SEC Power Conference. Will see I owe.
The last point I have to make is I really
hope that these these people sit down, that the movers
and shakers, the people behind the scenes, not just the
(01:40:04):
president's eighties but the money people, sit down and then
just lay it out. We do this in Texas high
school football. We we we we we planned for two
or three years and then we lay it out this
is what we're gonna do, and then we can allow
for changes down the road, and we do it all
at one time. None of this, you know, you know,
one one league acts for themselves and then everyone else
(01:40:25):
has to take the leftovers. And I don't think Danner
Built really should be in the SEC, just my opinion,
But who organize the whole college football? You guys play
TV ball and then you guys like I mean, Canada's
got basketball. Is fine, but they need to structure nationwide
and make your super conferences and then sign a ten
(01:40:48):
year contract and let's see how it goes. Don't the
too many band aid solutions ruins the game? And that's
what we're seeing. We're hearing you. I think it makes
a lot of sense. I don't think it's gonna happen.
We hear you. Thanks for the call. By the way,
we got any from he just had Jimmy seating a
cheating a twenty tweets us and says Mega Rappino, who
(01:41:08):
is openly gay and partners with w NBA stars Sue Bird,
stated that when she started kneeling, that's for the LGBT rights.
I don't care why she's kneeling. I mean, really, you
know what, I thought, that's great. When the next time
I go to a baseball game, I'm gonna kneel in
the stands. If they ask why I'm doing it, I'm
saying because I'm I'm one of those guys that is
interested in in the in the stars. And tonight it's
(01:41:29):
a full moon. So every time there's a full moon,
I'm gonna kneel. And doesn't been a different once you're
not supposed I mean, I don't know. I'm not going
down that road because I can't win and I won't win.
I'm not I'm not gonna do it. You know. You
know me, I don't like controversy. Ryan, That's me. I'm
a peaceful guy. Your wild man, and you're wild man.
I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it, but but
I want to talk about he's talking about quarterbacks. I
(01:41:50):
want to like finish up a little bit over here
Aaron Rodgers. Okay, because look, as a former pro athlete,
which you know you are, You're an athlete. What's you're
an athlete? You're an athlete. How does the locker room
react in a situation like this? What kind of tension
does to create tension? What about team morale? You know
this could be people told behind this back of the
locker room. He got his way, He got his way.
Now let's see what he could do. I'm sure he
(01:42:11):
may have made some enemies here. Yeah, this is a
tough one. And you know NBA are our contracts are
pretty guaranteed and the only sticky stuff we we can
have is if a star wants to be out or
a guy get wants to be out of Normally those
things are left behind the scenes. You know, when I
asked to be traded out of Minnesota, I didn't go
telling my teammates I'm I'm trying to get traded. I
want to be moved. That was between myself, my agent
(01:42:32):
in front office, and it didn't get out. But in football,
there's a lot of contract disputes. Uh In Aaron Rodgers.
We saw the disrespect. You can imagine what that feeling
must like be between he and Jordan's love and Jordan
London is gonna have to understand if he was a
starter one day and they draft a young fella, scrapping
young quarterback behind him, He's gonna feel some type of
way also. But the biggest sire relief is that you
(01:42:55):
don't have to hear about it from the media each
and every day. Because Aaron Rodgers is such a high
profile guy and this was such a high profile situation,
do you had to hear about it. Your friends and
family had opinions, your cousins, the aunties, everybody, and your agents,
everybody had an opinion on Aaron Rodgers. And now he's
got to come back into that locker room. So unless
you're in that locker room, you don't know what the
(01:43:16):
feeling is like behind it. And Aaron is a big
enough personality where he can actually challenge the front office,
and he did, and in most situations, you know, players can't.
I mean, did he win, I don't. I don't know.
He didn't, k KAA sort of one. I would call
it a stell mate, you know, But uh. I think
it does put a bit of an odd taste in
the air, smelling air because some people may be along.
(01:43:37):
We saw it with Levian Bell and said, hey, man,
get back and play. You shouldn't be doing this, And
we had other couple other people be be advocate to
Levan Bell. Now, Levian Bell is definitely not Aaron Rodgers,
and these are two different scenarios. But it's, you know,
intriguing to see. And only the way that Aaron treated
those guys to me, will will leave the sour taste
or the sweet taste in their mouths on him coming
(01:43:58):
or going. I think the media has missed a story
because since Aaron Rodgers came back to practice on Tuesday,
that's all they talk about his contract with Aaron Rodgers.
I'd like to know, you know, to me, and maybe
I'm off base, I'd like to know the relationship between
Aaron Rodgers and Jordan's love and practice. Is he talking
to him? Is love talking to Rogers? Will Rodgers take
him under his wing? Will Rodgers develop him and constituted him?
(01:44:20):
I want to know the relation these guys have to
work with one another. Who cares about contracts? And that's
all the media is working about and writing about, and
they talking about the general manager. I don't care. I
want to know how they're gonna coexist between Jordan's love
and Aaron Rodgers. That's the story, and I haven't seen
it or heard it. And believe me, if I don't
hear about it, next week, I'm taking a bus to
Green Bay and find out myself. Well, my understanding was,
(01:44:41):
you know, Brett far of Aaron Rodgers. Brett wouldn't talk
to or help Aaron Rodgers. He didn't want to give
that spot up. Now, knowing that Aaron Rodgers is only
probably gonna be there for another year, I think there's
a level where maybe this comes to peace and you
don't have to He doesn't have to look over his shoulder.
He knows that the team is committed to him for
this year and next year. He's looking at Jordan's love
(01:45:02):
and saying, this is gonna be your show man, and
trust me, there's gonna be There's nothing but love for
Aaron and in Green Bay, in Wisconsin. But as far
as in front office, business is still business unfortunately, So
you know, I think he's gonna want to make sure
that Jordan's love leaves this place in good is left
in good hands, and I don't think Aaron Rodgers will
(01:45:22):
be the guy who wouldn't go and help this kid out,
saying that they're not fighting for a job anymore. He's
gonna be there for a year and then he's gonna
try to get onto wherever he needs to go. Okay,
let me pay this picture for you right now. Green
Bay opens the season at New Orleans and they've played Detroit,
so I doubt very seriously they're gonna be Owen too.
They might be one on one, but they'll probably be two.
And Oh but if in fact they have one and
(01:45:42):
one on Owen two, which I don't think will happen,
and they start booing Aaron Rodgers, which they will, and
they bring in Jordan's love and he's somewhat successful, then
what happens that's the story too, Or if he gets hurt,
or if Aaron Rodgers gets hurt, you know, I can't
see it, and I trust me. I think there's a
reason that Green Bay was very hesitant to move Aaron Rodgers.
(01:46:03):
They apparently don't believe in Jordan's love just yet at
this point in time. Uh, I think it would be tough.
Aaron Rodgers is so sound man that he would, you know,
be be booed out. But if injury comes in, Jordan
Love plays well, You're not just some people are gonna
have split feelings. You know. There are some people that
aren't gonna be fans of Aaron Rodgers that don't understand
that you know he has to say so you could
(01:46:25):
be right, But Aaron Rodgers has so much uh cash man,
He's built up such respect in Green Bay that I
can't see it happening. But you're absolutely right, it would
be an extremely intriguing situation. Alright, we move on. He's
Ryan Hollands and many firma. We're in for Jonah Knocks
and the great Bucky Brooks. But right now, this is
a make or break season for one team. We're gonna
(01:46:47):
tell you who next. But first, did David gascon for
the latest? Hey guys, some news in the National Football League.
Cleveland Brown's tailback Nick Chubb has agreed on a new
three year deal with the organization who get paid thirty
six point six million dollars with twenty of that guaranteed
on that new deal for him see stain put. DeVante
Freeman has reached an agreement with the Saints. Just In
(01:47:08):
Houston has done the same with the Baltimore Ravens. Giants
picked up Todd Davis, and the Colts have acquired quarterback
Brent Huntley and major League Baseball Today, here's the right
handed hitting Springer and the first pitch is charged out
to deep blood field, hooking towards the pole, the very
first pitch, the tenth of the season for George Springer,
(01:47:32):
and in the blank of an eye, it's one nothing Toronto. Yeah,
he had a couple of homers on the day, three
runs driven in Toronto. Wins it for nothing over Kansas
City Angels. Also when they beat the A's one to
nothing and the Giants just closed things out over the
Astros eight to six. Guys, back to you, thank you
so much. You did a great job. I love working
with you, my friend. See you soon. Okay, we move on.
(01:47:56):
Gave it Gagan, Ryan Hollands and Jonas Knocks and Bucky Brooks.
But we're gonna tell you the hope Springs Eternal will
explain that in just about a minute. Now. You know,
people might think that I take go out there, I
have a cup of coffee during the sports up there,
I don't. I listened intently and I heard what David
Gascon have to say about Nick Chubb and getting that contract,
and it dawned on me, and I run this by you.
(01:48:18):
I don't think it's right that the public needs to
know how much athletes make. Maybe I'm crazy. I don't
want to know. I don't think they should know. I
don't think we know how much executives making the private sector.
Why should we have to know what athletes make? I
think that hurts, that creates the divide between fans and athletes.
Did you want people to know how much you made?
I don't. I don't really care. I don't want to know.
(01:48:40):
I don't think it's newsy. I really don't. Now you're
absolutely right. Now you know you don't want people to
know that it puts you in as such situation. Uh,
as an athlete, you know you you judgement every time
you you know you you miss or you lay up.
You know that's a seventy million dollar lay have you
missed m But you know what it was with the pressures,
(01:49:00):
I think you got to accept it. But I think
I would definitely like to know how much some of
these referees make. You know, they're paid more or less
when they bought a game. Man, So I I do
think that that should go both ways. And you know
that that helps him out the pressure. You know. I
guess that some may say there's a reason you make
the big bucks, but you know, I don't think. I
(01:49:21):
just think athletes shouldn't be the only ones, you know,
I put it like that before we start judging and
call the names. Okay, but my question is, how come
the NFL p A, which is so powerful, the Baseball
Union is stronger than the teamsters they really are, and
the NBA p A, why don't they get together and say, look,
we don't want the public knowing what all guys make. Really,
you know, I don't know what the owner of the
teams make. I don't know what the general manager makes.
(01:49:43):
Why should I know what the players make? IM believe me,
I'll go to a ball game. I'll go to a
Citinati Ridge baseball game and Joey Votto would strike out?
How do hear? A guys sitting behind me, a big
fat slab with a beer in his hand, said he
making million dollars a year. How he's striking out? I mean,
we don't need to hear that. It creates the the
divide between fans and and and athlete. It's not good.
(01:50:03):
It's not healthy. It really isn't healthy. I don't know
why they do it while they permitted, and honestly, what's
the purpose? What does it serve? You know? Had a
general manager once in radio make God dressed his soul.
J David Martin was his name. I loved them dearly,
WLLW and Cincinnati, and he always used this expression to me,
what's the upside? What is the upside of knowing what
a guy makes? Well, I guess you'd figured it out,
(01:50:27):
you know, one way or another, because everybody's gotta fit
under a salary cap. Or you know, I guess we're
aware of the rookie scale that we may not need
to be made aware of. Or you know, when a
guy turns down money. I I don't know. I guess
I would assume salary cap purposes, you know. You know,
every team has to certain amount, you know, I don't know.
(01:50:48):
Maybe it's a part of the game, you know, Like
I said, I don't mind it as long as it's
a two way street. You know, sometimes we need to
know what these general managers are making. Are these we know?
We know, we know the coaches for the most part,
But I guess the value comes in where you fit
on the team. Now you can tell all the star
players are you know, you can tell the guys making
the money. You know you money walking around. Well, let's
(01:51:10):
tell you how screwed up with this. We know how
much the last man on the bench of the New
York metches making, but they won't be able to tell
you the tax form for former President Trump. I mean it,
think about that. We know how much every guy in
Major League Baseball makes, we know how much the guys
in the NBA make. We couldn't find out how much
the president made. I mean really, I mean we'll get
his tax forms. It's just something wrong here. And that's
(01:51:33):
what method I care. I don't want to know what
anybody makes, and I don't want anybody to know what
I make. When you just want to be fair, you
wanted to be even equal. You know you're gonna give
out their money, but put your money out to You
know you're right about that. You know when we were
going through the lockout, that was gonna big questions. You know,
you we couldn't. Those owners didn't They want to claim
all these losses, but they didn't want their money to
be put out on whether they were losses or not,
(01:51:56):
or you know, it's just they just weren't making as
much as they sure they were using them as a
tax right off. You know. That's hey man, your private
jet is on at tax right off, being rid off,
ridden off to the team. So is there really a loss?
You know? So? Uh, there is a level where hey man,
those owners were smart by not putting that information out
there because you know it would have looked bad on
(01:52:16):
the other side. Let me speak my piece about owners
in sport and crying about losses. Okay, you know, if
you're in business, if you want a restaurant, you're losing
money more from them, not they're gonna put a shingle
out front safe for sale. I don't see a lot
of teams for sale. So these guys are losing that
much money because if you were, you'd sell your team.
I'm correct. I think that's I have friends that have
(01:52:39):
been in the restaurant business. After six months, they're going
belly up, they're putting the sign up there to selling.
I feel for them, I really did. They wanted to
make a dream come true. It didn't happen. For whatever
the reason, the pandemic, it just it just didn't work out.
And they sell. If you're in the business, it's not
doing well. More from them, not just saying for sale.
I'm out of here, gonzo, I'm gone in baseball. These
guys are crying all the time. You know what the
(01:53:00):
damn thing? I don't see you selling it? What was
the list of a baseball team was sold? I don't remember.
I really don't. I don't know. You know what, do
I know what I should? I have too much free
time on my hand. That's the problem. I don't know.
I worry about stupid things. I'm worried about Simone Biles,
That's what I worry about. I mean, I worry about
our health. You know what, you want to cancel the games.
Maybe she would have been better of just saying I'm
(01:53:22):
not up to it. I can't do it. The mental
health thing. I think that that created so much negativity
on social media. She would have been better. You don't
want Honestly, I hate to say she'd be better off
breaking her leg. She would have been better if she
had a broken leg. He couldn't compete anymore. They're going
with the mental nobody health. Nobody's walked in those shoes,
but her nobody has walked in those shoes. And whoever
(01:53:44):
the number one gymnasts you know, a few years back
or ten years ago was there's a whole different landscape
now today, you know, and you get, I get there's
an element the outside perception says, man, people would do
anything to be in Olympian People do any thing to
be in your shoes until they're in your shoes. Right,
(01:54:04):
There's there's a cost, I'll say this, man, there's a
cost for everything success. You talk about money, those most
people who make big money are working like, you know,
twenty at a twenty four hours a day. You know,
basketball players tremendous money. So what six seven months at
the ead, they don't see their family. They're traveling on planes.
I mean, people say, well, they're great, they got private planes,
(01:54:25):
they've got the great hotels. So what they can't leave
They can't leave the hotel room. Do you think Michael
Jordan could have leave the hotel room to get a
meal in the restaurant He'd be swarmed. Really, and you've
got now everybody running around with everybody's a photographer. What
do I mean by that's got a phone? You got
a phone, you're a photographer. I mean all you gotta do.
If Ryan Hollins goes down to a restaurant and some
(01:54:45):
young ladies says, could I have a picture with you Ryan,
as she puts her arm around you, next thing, you know,
the pictures taken. It goes viral. You're finished, You're done.
It's all over. Yeah, you're right about that, you know so, um,
I don't like being in your example being done it over,
But maybe it's the beginning. I don't know. Now, you're right,
(01:55:08):
it's a different day and age. And like I said,
here's one thing I want to put out. We need
to put more respect on Lebron james name because of
there's a lot of scrutiny about the way he does
things and how he hands himself. And you know a
lot of people are Jordan's guys, and Jordan wouldn't do this,
and Kobe wouldn't do that. But Lebron James deals with
(01:55:29):
so much scrutiny and he cannot live a normal life.
So the fact that he's found a way to be
not just a ball player, but a husband and a
father in the midst of of of just like you said,
can't go anywhere in life is never the same. He's
found a way to survive. And I don't think that
he gets the credit for dealing with all of that. Man,
there's there's a mental adversity behind the scenes. You know,
(01:55:50):
everyone's looking at Lebron as Lebron, everybody's trying to get
to him, everybody's trying to be around him. Man, that's
not always a fun life to be had to have
where you can't trust yourself. And I'm want to say
he's done. He's doing an amazing job, because man, everybody
ain't ready for the way in the world to be
on their shoulders. So people can be hyper critical of him,
but from a mental state, for him to have played
at a high level for so long and still be competing,
(01:56:12):
you gotta give your hats off to Lebron. And also
he's given us a level of transparency and he's been
outspoken at times. Well you agree with him or not,
he's had the coronas to do it, man, and a
lot of people don't do that. So let's give a
lot of credit to Lebron James because the mental side
ain't funny and and a lot of y'all could not
walk in those shoes, even though you see the money
and this and that a lot of people could not
(01:56:34):
walk in King James shoes. Man, I'm with you. I
tell you what. He's got some heavy duty hanging down
things because you know he's not afraid to venture into
the social media world and have his opinion, which basically
he always gets smacked around for the opinion. But I'll
tell you what, I love them, and not so much
for the great basketball that he plays and love watching
and play. I love him in for what he did
for the city of Akron, Ohio. The fact that he
(01:56:55):
built schools for these kids and the money he's given
back and he doesn't get any credit for that, none
of all, none whatsoever, what he has done for the
city of Akron, for the educational aspect of these young kids,
getting him back in school. And look you talked about
I can't go anywhere. I mean he several weeks ago
he took his kid to a basketball game and he's
got it to it and it's and it's over there.
It's crazy. I mean, the guy can't go out anywhere.
(01:57:16):
But you know what, when it's all said and done,
he will go down on the mountain Rushmore of basketball.
And I'm one of those guys that his old school,
you know, I go back to the old guys that
talk about the top ten players of all time. I
never hear the big old's name Oscar Robertson or el
Jim Baylor, or World Chamberlain or Kareem I never hear
those guys names mentioned. But you know what, right now,
you gotta put Kobe in there. You gotta put Lebron
(01:57:38):
in there. You gotta put all these guys in there.
You really do k D You have to be honest.
I'm sorry, you're stretching out now. That's what I know.
I know. But the fact that he came back, I
thought he would be gone for a year. I really did.
When he kind of twisted that he was done, I
(01:58:00):
do like him. Here we go. He's Ryan Hollins, I'm
Andy Ferman. We're in for Jonas Knocks and Bucky Brooks.
Right here on a Fox Sports Saturday and Fox Sports Radio.
We're gonna tell you that there's still America's team that's next.
There's still number one and we'll tell you who were
just about a minute. By the way, he is Ryan
Hollins on Andy Furman. We're in for Jonas Knox and
Bucky Brooks. And by the way, at the top of
(01:58:20):
the hour, it should be eight o'clock on the East coast.
Brian No and he from Salam. You could get them
on the I Heart Radio app, on Sirius x M
channel Lady three, and of course on many of these
same Fox spots radio affiliates. And I'll be with Brian
No tomorrow morning at six am easton on the same
deal I Heeart app and Sirius XM AD three and
of course on these Fox spots READYO affiliates. And and
(01:58:41):
for you, my friend, it's been a pleasure again. I
don't know what it's gonna happen again. I hope it
does sooner than later. But it's always fun working with you.
I feel like you missed me, Andy, if I'm not
missing a picture of you, got a picture of you
in my wall. What do you mean. I appreciate you, brother,
Thank you. Let's talk about this now. It took about.
The football season gets underway on Thursday, the Hall of
Fame game. You got the Dallas Cowboys the Pittsburgh Steelers,
(01:59:03):
and I gotta believe that the hype is the momentum
is right there again. The Dallas Cowboys are dominating the
headlines in the preseason. At least, this is gonna be
their third appearance on the HBO Hard Knocks Show. They're
gonna be on the Hall of Fame game Thursday night
on Fox with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jerry Jones there
several weeks ago hurt him and say this quote. I
would do anything known to man to get in a
(01:59:24):
super Bowl, anything known to man to get in a
super Bowl. Hey, Jerry, you know what, you gotta make
the playoffs first, you know, really get the playoffs first.
But we'll worry about the super Bowl. He was six
and ten last year. That was the third third place
in a band NFC East and it's been Get this,
I can't believe this. It's been twenty five years since
they list appeared the Super Bowl, so they got a
long road ahead. But I think that things could turn
(01:59:46):
around this year. Yeah. No, Dallas is still an extremely
talented team. You know that going down just that just
broke a man. That hurt. But you know, make no mistake. Uh,
that's a really good team there. And you brought it up,
you mentioned it earlier. You know, Aaron Rodgers, you know
Jerry Jones is gonna be knocking on the door saying,
Aaron Man, come be our guy, Come get your Tom
(02:00:08):
Brady on man. We'll give you everything that you want
over here. So I'm a big fan of any owner
that steps forward and says he's gonna do anything possible
to win a championship. You least see stive Steve Bomber
the way he went at it and win and got
Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and those boys over there.
So I'm a big fan of it. Man. I I'm
(02:00:28):
not a cowboy fan, but it's intriguing to see. Man.
You know what you could count on your hand on
one hand, the amount of owners that go public and
say that and do that. You're right, you got Jerry Jones,
he will do it. Uh, you got Bomber did it,
the late George Steinburner did it many times. For the
Yank Cuban, Mark Cuban, he does it. Yeah. Not many
there not many out there, and they want to win
there that dying the desire to win but you know what, Dallas,
(02:00:51):
they gotta make it back. Everybody tells about Dr Prescott.
I think one of the big deals also is the
running back because Zekiel Elliott. Elliott, they say now is
a little thinner than a year ago. He's only twenty six.
I think he's got a lot of yaunite ahead of him.
There's some more tracks on the tire, and their offensive
lines healed up. They got some pretty good receivers and
Marii Cooper ceedee Lamb Michael Gallups. So I think the
(02:01:12):
Cowboys have a shot. I think the biggest thing that
helps them is the division they play in stinks, it
really does. They got a shot, they really do. Yeah. Yeah,
it went from one of the best divisions in football
to the worst. Really, Craig Man, the Giants and the Eagles,
they steak Man, You're right. I mean that was literally
the hottest division of football for a while. Steady, You're right.
(02:01:32):
You're exactly right. And the funny thing is, I think
that they should do something for at least for the
fans point of view that it's embarrassing when a teammates
the playoffs with a losing record. You know those teams
are going to the players with seven and nine records.
It just doesn't make any sense. And if they win
the division with that record, they host the home game.
I would, but I would argue it. But Tom Brady
did that and they said he wasn't that good, and
he messed around and won the Super Bowl a few times,
(02:01:53):
So we can't argue. There's now you're you're right. I mean,
but I think that maybe they should do something like
maybe they're doing soccer and the European soccer leagues, like
the worst team in one of division, move them down
to like another division, and they may move a team
up to one division, make a little more competitive. It's
kind of the competitive, and certainly it's not so All
I know is this that you and I were pretty
(02:02:13):
competitive tonight. It just blew by, enjoyed it. We'll do
it again sometime, I hope coming up. Coming up next
is gonna be our guys Brian No and E from Salam.
There we go on Fox
