Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports. I go morning Buddy, happy, happy, happy,
happy happy Saturday Sports Saturday to all across the nation
and his Saturday August seventh, and uh we celebrate gold today.

(00:25):
That's right. Team USA scared by France last night, and uh,
I gotta give k D or credit in the world.
K D was a beast and absolute beast throughout that
whole game, really throughout the whole tournament, which started very dicey.

(00:47):
Right if you go back to Vegas and the exhibition
games and didn't look real well and you lose to
France and you're like, oh, like, what's going on with
this team? Or is this can this team match up?
Is Popa it's the guy to do it? Is he
embracing the international style? Is that an issue? And look,

(01:10):
I mean they rolled like there were some you know,
big time performances, but the one consistent has been k D. Now,
they started off slow last night and it was Durant
who got them hot and outside the other piece was
Jason Tatum. Tatum was sensational and when that team needed

(01:30):
that secondary score behind k D, Chatum was fabulous. He
stepped it right up and even last night day Mrs
A couple of free throws and kay de Ice is
it with Timothy Lawu Cabarrow banging shots, Frank Nikolina banging

(01:50):
and three may give it close. It was awesome. It
was a great, great performance. And Kevin Durant, I listen,
I know all the other stuff with the Twitter eggs
and all the other nonsense. I'm a Durant fan. I've
always liked Durant. I've always thought he is such an
elegant player at seven feats hall, the what he does

(02:14):
and the pure shooter and the touch that he has.
I just marvel at at his ability. And I know
what happened, okay see, And I was the one thing
that's funny on yesterday when all the players are signing
and re signing and all the big names like Durant
and Harden will do so, Kyrie will do so, so

(02:37):
Brooklyn will be intact. But I always felt bad for
okay see, for losing him, you know. And that was
my one little side eye. But look, I mean it
is what it is. I was thought Durant was just
a great, great player, like just an elite, elite player,
and I always liked him, so I was kind of
glad that he had his moment and he was very uh,

(03:01):
very proud, and he was proud of his country and
proud of playing for his country. And I admire that. Man.
I thought that was pretty cool. I did. I thought
that was that was awesome. I was guy. I was
happy because you know why, it's like, you know, in
a weird way, they're almost damned if they do or don't, right,

(03:23):
like they go, wow, you're expected to win your USA.
Look since in a dream team, the United States have
taken seven of the eight gold medals, and when we lost,
we freaked out. The Larry Brown team you want what
you know, and this team was a little shaky and

(03:43):
you started to go, well, you know, and I know
sometimes you have to push those thoughts away, which is, well,
you we should win. Look, you looked around and international
ball is really at its height. It's it's a lot
of good teams, a lot of good squads. And you know,

(04:03):
I was glad that in team USA showed and played
with that real, that nationalistic passion that you see from
these other countries. And I was proud of him. I
thought it was great. It was a great wain of
great ball game, great basketball and I was proud of
that whole group, and I give a lot of credit
because look a lot of a lot of guys. Look,

(04:26):
they got no interest in playing right summertime. Look at
my um. It's amazing because this player who I once
loved because of his ability, I now revile, is Ben Simmons.
But Ben Simmons couldn't even play for his Australian team. Like,

(04:49):
think about that for a second. That do First of all,
the guy needed to play the game, and needed to
play in a game. His issues. We're not about working
in a lonely gym or the lab as he so
ridiculously calls his workplace. I mean, dude, you need to

(05:10):
play in front of people. You need to not run
and hide while the game goes on. And you needed
to play for your country, but you want to do that.
He wanted to have his birthday party was forbidden Rice,
and you know whatever, it's your prerogative. But I look
at those Team USA players that went and and gave

(05:32):
love their time and wanted to go and quest for gold,
and Kevin Durant didn't need to do that, and Damian
Lillard didn't need to do that, and those dudes and
Jayson Tad and those dudes went and played with pride,
so they got my respect in a big way. I was.
I was excited to watch the game, look forward to it. Real.

(05:54):
Just go ball, like, just go basketball, man, for you know,
I'm kind of starved where between. We're in all that
baseball mode, which is great, but also you know you
need to have all the fix and that all the
fixes here Thursday night we had it. I realized it's
just exhibition, and I realized that nobody played a little

(06:19):
bit so a little uh so, a little something something
from the Steelers. Right, But you saw the helmets, and
it got me thinking because Thursday is when all the
other teams played, right, the first exhibition game. It is
Thursday night. And it got me thinking because I loved

(06:43):
this past Thursday night in the Hall of Fame game,
just to visualize the helmets. Now, this is just gonna
sound ridiculously nerdy, but I gotta be honest with you guys.
There's something about the helmet that I just love. I
when I wore it as a kid, right, I love

(07:05):
putting it on. I still love all these years later.
I love to look at it. My kid is playing
now football right, my little Anthony is playing football and
he's got the helmet. He's there, looked daddie. I got
the helmet and it was like just to sign a
like a pride. I was like, my man, and it

(07:28):
was pretty cool. We're just watching Steelers Cowboys, and what
I want to do this morning is I want to
do something called now and then. All right, The then
is the helmet, right, like when you first fell in
love with your team, all right, And the then is

(07:55):
when you first discovered the NFL. Because I I s
told me I could look at and I grew up
in Philadelphia, right, so I'm an Eagles fan. I grew
up in Eagles fan, and I'll never forget seeing Veteran
Stadium and these helmets right and looking at these players,

(08:18):
and I was like, oh my god, what is this game? Now?
I love baseball. Probably baseball was my first I've been
talking about had to be six seven years old. Baseball
and basketball and even hockey hockey is being around them
out of my way. But there was something about football
that just was like, man, this game is incredible. What

(08:39):
is this? Like I knew the minute I saw it.
I was like hawked on it. And I want to
go chake you back into the player, so you can
visualize the helmet and the player who wore that helmet
that began your own fandom in the NFL. Then take

(09:02):
it through your journey as a fan of whatever team
you are to your expectations now. And here's the other
thing too. When we talk about players like I admire
and I still admire players, you know, you see a
lot of guys will cry. I sold Dwight Howard and look,

(09:25):
the Lakers are putting together the hell of the team.
But Dwight Howard talked about how everybody's on their appreciate
ross is on their appreciated. Oh, it's just it's a
group of guys on their appreciated I mean, for real,
who's only to appreciate? Like, dude, you're you're. I don't

(09:45):
even want to go like money, right, Like I don't
want to go salary because you can't even imagine that
sort of money. It it's so farig into the every
man that sort of wealth, which is fine. I don't
begrudge anybody that that's a gift that was bestowed upon you.

(10:08):
We all get our own gifts and we all have
our own things. So I don't begrudge anything about a dollar,
but I just don't understand it makes me want to
go there when I hear them talking about being other
and that they're all they're appreciated. We're talking about dude,
you just liveing on another planet and it's you know,

(10:32):
whatever set on. Social media's vile and I think we
should all we all understand that that it's for the emotional,
the on into the on intelligence. Sometimes these comments that
are said, you have to just like slop them off.
They are what they are. People want to hate day
what are they? It's you have Most of the time,

(10:53):
I believe in humanity. They don't even believe what they're saying.
So you know, youth, what I where it is, ignore it.
I still believe. And this part of this discussion is,
you know, the player then than the players now that
we still have an admiration for the athlete that we're

(11:15):
not as sports fans this group of haters with pitchforks
and wild turkey breath that we actually enjoy and love
and can revere athletes. And I you know, part of
the discussion is when we talk about football and when

(11:37):
you were first hawked through your journey following your team
at what your your favorite players, your favorite season leading
up to now, which is your expectation and the player
you admire. I mean, that's a true devotion because I

(11:57):
know it's inside all of us, and it's the beginning
of the season, is when all this stuff comes flooding back. See.
The beauty of sport is that it is the timeline
of your life. Whether you're eighteen or eighty eight, you
can look at sports and it's a timeline of your life.

(12:18):
I still remember certain big moments and I go, oh, yeah,
well I was watching this game or that game where
this happened on that day. So we're gonna dive into that.
We'll talk about the team USA National probably I want
to get your phone calls, uh as for this football exercise.
It's gonna be all show long today because I really

(12:40):
want to dive into I'm I'm kind of geeked up
over it. It's uh the NFL now and then, and
it's kind of your own journey that we'll talk about.
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine on Fox. We'll talk to the guys, the
fellas I know Psyche Cooke, Chris Nicky, your hanging figures

(13:02):
all for today. So we'll get everybody and chit chat
begin our Saturday morning, our sports Saturday right here with
the fellas. I'm Anthony Gargano. It's Fox Sports Radio. Fox
Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot

(13:25):
s R to listen live. All right, welcome back, happy,
happy sports Saturday. Some good baseball ass like too, by
the way, man, A couple of great races Alist Yankees,
Blue Jays raise all win of course, Toronto bombs the

(13:49):
Red Sox, Red Sox starting this. I think we're here
a little bit. That's a great race. N El eis
is really good to Phillies. They got the Mets take
over first place, Brave still win. So good baseball stuff is.
We reached all this. But I got that you know,

(14:11):
football thing working, I mean, first Hall of Fame game. Listen.
I'm such a dork. I sat there and I got
home from work. I do a Thursday like gig and
I get home and I couldn't wait to just put
it on, just to see it all, just to see
the telecast. Chris what do you say. It's been an

(14:35):
eventful few days. Team USA. You know, basketball really the
big story. It's kind of amazing that they managed to
get to that mountaintop, but they get to secure that
once again. And yeah, like on the home front, football's here. Man.
Did you did you watch the game? The basketball game?

(14:55):
A little bit? Uh? It was kind of usually comes
right as I'm like, you know, trying to get my
nap been before I get in for this overnight shift here.
But I watched enough. I I think it's interesting you
you mentioned about that there's a lot of criticism while
they're struggling, but they still bring home gold. It's just
I think that's just kind of the science of expectations

(15:17):
when it comes to a team like Team USA in basketball. No,
like you know, you you would know this if you're
someone like say the Yankees and the nineties, where all
you do is win and win and win. Eventually that
becomes the expectation. And if you deviate from that expectation
at all, it's not that people recognize that circumstances are changing.
They ask you, well, what's wrong, why aren't you just

(15:38):
doing what you're always doing? Yeah, there's it's a little
different then, and I hear, I hear your your analogy
and it's not it's not off, but it's it's even
more pronounced when you're talking about Team usay in basketball, right, like, yeah,
it's every four years, you're right, word, the rest of
the world is kind of doing better at basketball. These

(16:00):
are some very good teams that were fielded this year
that team USA beat, right, And it's like once you
go dream team. And by the way, I never understood
the avateur thing anyway. I never got it when the
rest of the world was using professional athletes. That made
no sense to me. But it's like, the US has

(16:20):
the best domestic league out there in the NBA when
it comes to basketball, so that confers a lot of
pride on us. But yeah, to your other point, they're like,
ah it, it really does suck that. I think a
lot of guys just look at the at the professional contract.
You know, me, I'm a big you know, international soccer
guy watching a lot of Italian Syria. That is seismic.

(16:45):
That's seismic, newsman. I don't know where he lands at.
Maybe we can talk about that a little later. There's
some good odds on there, and where he could land.
It changes the fortune of the entire mains. That is
that real? That would that would be a dark timeline
just because France doesn't really have a domestic league and
they just seem to be sucking up every they have

(17:06):
so much money. They they sucked up Neymar, they suck
up all the big names out there, and then they
try to win the Champions League title. It it would
depress me, but it seems like that could happen. But
to the point, on soccer, guys go out and not
only play for their club, but then they play for
their country, be it for Copa America, for the Euros,
for the World Cup, and it's just they they understand

(17:28):
that and they understand that pride that both sides bring
to it. And I just kind of wish you would
see that a little bit more with some NBA players
to go and play for their country. Yeah, that's why
I look at a guy like Durant, right and k D.
Let's face it, he's you know, he's been through it right,

(17:49):
like the whole Twitter thing, and they kind of view
him as a lesser, like he never gets any sort
of the respect that Lebron gets. No, the won the
wondering that he has. Everyone just criticizes him because they say, oh,
you just went to Golden State and let them carry
you to the mountaintop. Kevin Durant is just a fantastic

(18:10):
basketball player through and through, and he's been like he's
been through these postseason battles for years and years. Like
he's not taking time off. He's he's not saying that
he's too tired to go to the Olympics. He got
straight off from you know, a heartbreaking loss for the Nets,
for all this preparation, to all this work and all
of that coming to not and just went out over

(18:30):
and straight and just played for Team USA. Played and
and by the way, ball the bleep. He's the hero.
He's a hero of the day. But no, he and
he balled out in Brooklyn and you know, playing minutes
like that Game seven, which we don't even talk about
as much as we should, between the Brooklyn and Milwaukee

(18:53):
was one. Was a great ball was a great basketball game.
A k D that whole series all doubt he really did.
And then to your point, goes to Vegas and then
goes and represents his country in Tokyo and was just incandescent.

(19:14):
I again, he doesn't get the respect. I'm not saying
he's gotta be on Lebron. I get Lebron is on
his own, and I understand that, like Kevin dur ain't
obviously first Battle of Famer, just an incredible player, and
I think for him, he this is his moment. I hope,

(19:36):
I hope now again, I know the Olympics aren't as
big as they probably were whatever, but I'm hoping that
he gets his because he really deserves it, Chris, he does.
He deserves to be the man to get to get
that moment. No, I agree, no one would have faulted
him for taking this summer off and he didn't. And
again to what I just said, to what you and

(19:57):
I have been saying earlier too, this is not an
easy road to get to gold anymore. These are not
tin Can's. The Team USA has to push over France
and all these other countries out there they are doing. Yeah,
we're gonna have Australian Slovenia and the bronze medal game
here soon. And you know there's stars on both those teams.

(20:19):
This is good team basketball. The rest of the world
is playing there are more like if Team USA would
have fallen. The criticism would have been harsh, but at
the same time I would have understood it because the
rest of the world. You some people push back on it,
but no, the rest of the world is doing better
at developing good, well rounded, deep teams that can make

(20:40):
runs in the Olympics. And guess what Kevin Durant led
Team USA to beat those rising teams to hold onto
the crown. That is that's a ton of respect. And again,
that's not a dream team going out there, the Dream
Team Part two going out there. That's Kevin Durant dragging, dragging.
There's some other good guys on Team USA, but it's

(21:02):
not like he is part of a cast of stupor
stars out there. He is the superstar and he is
the one who won this game for Team USA. Yeah. No,
that's that's very well put. And it's interesting on the
day when a lot of the big contracts we're handed
out right, Kauai you saw with the whole Laker group
gets introduced, Kauai coming back to the Clippers. Uh, you

(21:27):
know here it is, you know, across the world, across
the globe, there's k D winning the gold Man pretty Uh.
I think that's pretty profound, I really do. All right,
we'll discuss a lot of the NBA movement and that
Laker team and what they look like. But first time

(21:47):
now for some trending. Hey, good to speak to you. Aunt.
How's it going. I'm doing well. You know. We have
some live Olympic Team USA baseball going on right now.
They're gunning for the gold medal, taking on Japan in
the third inning. No scores, so the Americans hoping to

(22:07):
add on to their gold medal counts. Also, as Chris
alluded to earlier, Slovenia and Australia in men's basketball will
be dueling it out in the bronze medal game, which
is set to tip off in Japan at seven am
Eastern time. Earlier, team USA basketball able to garner a

(22:28):
fourth consecutive gold after taking down France eight seven to
eighty two. Kevin Durant was a show stopper. He started
with twenty nine points, hit some critical buckets late, also
made some key free throws down the stretch to ice
the game away. According to the Athletic Team U says,

(22:49):
Damian Lillard, a teammate of Durance, had a am injury
that he was dealing within the Global Games, and he
will have more tests to figure out what is going
on and when he gets back to the US. Also,
Team USA women's water pole they grab a third strade
gold medal after taming Spain fourteen to five. American Nelly

(23:11):
Korda is your gold medal winner and women's golf the
year old the first ever male or female to win
a gold and a major in the same year. And
because of that, the Americans sweep in golf at the Olympics,
with x under Chaffle taking gold on the men's side.
And baseball, the Angels bashing the Dodgers forward to three

(23:33):
intend dings. Mookie Betts had to leave this game prematurely
because of some right right hip discomfort. The Diamondbacks still
away six runs in the fourth inning to dice up
the Padres eight to five. The A's startle the Rangers
for one thanks to a walk off three run blast.
In the eleventh inning, the Brewers bogged down the Giants

(23:55):
to one intendonings. The Blue Jay's body slam the Red
Sox twelve to four, and Aunt's Phillies end up getting
a win four to two against the Mets. Now and
as I send it back to I have a proposed
trade scenario that I wanted to get your take on
involving Ben Simmons. So this is what I got. I've

(24:16):
got the Dallas Mavericks sending Philly, Matt Geiger and Todd
McCulloch in two third round NBA picks for Ben Simmons.
Do you think that's too much for him? I don't know. Man,
you're talking about Geiger. Do you know what Geiger um?

(24:39):
Do you you know what's special about where he lives? No?
What is that he raises buffalo? Really? Yes, he lives,
He has a ranch and he raises buffalo. Wow, little, good,
little Geiger factoid for you. I like it. He was
he was a solid guy. It would come in and

(25:00):
and give you some good minutes during those early two thousands.
It's funny like that. Yeah, and then it was the
heat and you know that that. It's funny. A guy
like Geiger can't play down right like you just can't
play now right like back then. Guys like a guy
like today like OAKA four would be a great player

(25:23):
in that EUR late nine these early two thousand's, But
today because you can't space the floor and you can't move,
you're a liability. We'll seem like for Todd McCullough, like
he's a guy you can't put him on the perimeter
to try to hit a three or two. He's not
built for that. No, well he wasn't that good anyway.

(25:46):
He kind of sucked anyway. Respect Thanks bro, taking me
some funny. Let's talk to you a little bit. Okay,
my boy. Oh he's got to come out with a shot.
I don't know. I'm pretty benigned this morning. Man. I'm
in a good move talking about football, you know what
I mean. I've even got a taste a little soccer

(26:10):
in there too, which we can always bounce back to
at some point. But I know you're you're you're excited
over that. Now. The mess the thing is seismic. I
agree with you. I don't want I don't want to
clog up the football talk here. I just found it
funny on a day where MESSI was moving, you know,
suddenly Barcelona isn't returning one of the biggest stars in
the planet. Most radio shows I was listening to We're talking,

(26:31):
it was talking about Jason Garrett just kind of the difference. Yeah,
call him coach. Yeah, yeah, I know what a what
a weasel there? Yeah, I mean, like, here's the thing
that I always look at and listen, you're accomplished football

(26:52):
coach and you made a career in the NFL. Hey, god,
bless right, Like, seriously, that's a that's a you should
be proud yourself. Jason Garrett like you, you weren't a
good player, but you became, You carved out a niche
for yourself as a coach. This whole nonsense and Dion
Sanders pulled it. Who was a Hall of Fame player?

(27:14):
But this, But these guys, there's a lot of guys
out there that have to get a reality check because
quite frankly, NFL coaches, you might as well go be
a middle school gym teacher. I mean, let's be real here.
Playing a coach, he's the he's the offensive coordination. I well,

(27:35):
you know they're they're all coaches. I'm putting in quotation.
Mark Sure, I just but I remember I covered Big
ten meeting days. I can't remember how like a lot
of guys called guys by their first names. You go
to Lions Lions training camp, and I'm sure you can
call Dan Campbell's call him Dan and he'll be fine
with it. There's there's different Some guys have really taken
up this mantel that I want to be called a

(27:56):
coach when I can't. I can't, do you remember or
that at any being this insistent about at any point,
And because I I don't know, I felt like, if
I go to Nick season a couple of years ago,
he'd be cool if you just called him Nick. Yeah. No,
I mean honestly yea. Now, this whole coach thing, listen,

(28:17):
if you're playing for the guy you call on coach
right like, like like, listen if you know if I'm
playing for you, your coach, Chris, Hey, hey coach, al right, coach, everybuddy,
I applying for you, right if I'm not, if I'm
just a media guy. First of all, it's the meaning, yeah,
you don't work for the team, you don't work for

(28:38):
this guy exactly, like, dude, you know, who do you
think you're talking to? You're you're Jason right, Like who
do I Are you serious? It's not, it's not. It's ridiculous.
And the other thing, too, is like this whole concept
of demeaning people right, Like it's the way some of

(29:00):
these coaches talk to reporters. It's part of the reasons
why I jumped over the sports radio because I loved writing, right,
I love to now. I leased to like writing these
longer stories more than the press conference that kind of thing.
But like these dudes are their egos are a way

(29:22):
out of control. Like you know, when you're splitting Adams,
you come to talk to me, all right, because the
only person I'll give a title too is doc. All right,
Dr so and so, who's actually fixing my my health,
or my family's health, or my child's health. You know what,

(29:42):
I'll give them the title because they deserved the title.
They're doing God's work. Until you're called the third and ten.
All right, I'm sorry you're getting no special. Coach talk
to me. You're right on the demeanor thing to just
belittling some guy, because I know that was like a
big mark on going back to Detroit. On Matt Patricia,

(30:05):
the former Detroit Lions coach. One of the first years
he was there, he's like yelling, he's like telling a
reporter to sit up during a press conference and like
correcting him on his posture. And that's just so you
were doing that to me, I'd be like, yeah, that's rude.
But like for for this guy who you're supposed to
be covering, you're supposed to have this working relationship with,

(30:26):
just suddenly in front of the whole room being like
power trip, power trip, Like you know what the responses dude,
you're fat? You know what I mean? Like you know,
I mean hate to say it, but like, you know
what I mean like that in a disparaging way. But
if you're going to tell me that I'm slouting, dude,
you're you're you're you're a pig. Okay, Matt, Yeah, the

(30:48):
Belichick Belichick wardrobe doesn't work if you're not actually Belichick.
I mean, you know, dude, why you why you treat
me beard? You skank? I mean what I mean really,
like what are you supposed to say? Like somebody chastise you?
Like you? Why excuse me? Like I'm seriously got my arguments.

(31:09):
Like back in the day, it was way more contentious.
It's funny because I entered into the business right as
the Internet was coming in, right like so right as
we started to become truly connected and the older guys
that were that we're covering sports, So you know, I

(31:30):
come in just after Rob Rob Parker and like we
worked together in New York, Rob and I and and Chris.
I mean, I'm not gonna freak Chris. I love Chris
and so we um so we all worked together. And
like dudes like those dudes were the guys before us

(31:51):
were like they didn't take anything, like there was no
like excuse me, like who are you talking to? They
would roll around they fighting guy fist fighting guys like
it was. It was crazy. And now it's like it's
all a power trip. So when you hear guys say
call me coach, or hey, you should sit up a

(32:11):
pay attention, all that is is a power trip over
the reporter. And if you've got a young reporter and
the reporter is in a bad place today because he's
easily shut out because with social media and everybody with platforms,
you don't really need the traditional beat guy as much.

(32:33):
Now there's still a purpose, but you don't you know,
you don't really need it as much as you did
in the past to get the information. Now I'm a
big believer in it because the information that the beat
run is supposed to be given you is down the middle.
It's not slanted from the team's perspective. That makes sense, Chris, Yeah,

(32:56):
that makes sense. I think for for a lot of
the guys too, who are reports these days, it's just
a matter of a lot of them are going and
not wanting to rock the boat because rightly or not,
they also think that these guys can just go Yeah,
it's they can just yank your access at any point.
Like it's so competitive to keep this access that their
bosses will bend over back where it's like, oh you

(33:18):
made this coach mad. Oh we've got to take you
off the beat. Now, we gotta you know, we've got
to protect our access. It's it's a it's a whole
messy political game. And yeah, it does mean that these
coaches can go on ego trips because they know they
can get away with that. Yeah, I'm with you. I'm
with you. I think you're dead right about that. All right, Well,

(33:39):
I don't want to expend the show talking about there's
create cretans like I mean, like, really, I got no talent.
It's a happy day. It's supposed to be happy day.
You know what it is? You know what it's like.
I look at it and I wrote my eyes. I
just want to move on because we get bogged down
these fans with minutia and like that X minutia right,

(34:01):
Like Jason Garrett, I mean, yo, dude, you were a
mock as the coach of the Cowboys. Yo, the clapper,
he was the class. He was just getting mocked licking
and I used to mock him all the time. I mean,
we're serious, like you know, dude, reality check. So don't
even by the waste your time with that. I want
to celebrate what we love. See. I think it's you're

(34:24):
better off not focusing on this stuff that irritates you
and focus on the stuff that really drew it drew
you to the game and the sport. So we're gonna
do that. It's now and then, and I'm gonna ask
the guys, and then we'll go about the phone lines
and I want to talk to you guys as well.
Lots to do. Where the Fellas just getting started shoot

(34:48):
up right here, Oh on Fox Sports Radio. Oh, welcome
back fellas. You know there's minor irritants in life, right.
One of my minor irritants is going on the Chris

(35:12):
So my man, who's the engineer here where I do
the show. We have a deal, right, like you fly,
I buy right, so you know, every every Saturday morning
I get him breakfast and I need coffee. Like I'm
a coffee head, right. I feel I'm particular too, Like

(35:36):
I get a black coffee with two shots of espresso,
a little cream and no sugar because I can't do sugar. Really,
He'll do cream, but no sugar. It's just a little,
like couple droplets something enough to get it out of
the black, just to just to give it. And I'll

(35:58):
do more. And the only reason why it's because I
would do tensius shots straight espresso because I like to.
I like the taste of it. But I can't do
the sugar like I I the sugar just it turns
I can't do it right, and I need coffee, so
I go to the local coffee joint that's the chain.

(36:22):
And for some reason, these people always want to put
coffee sugar in the coffee, and I gotta say it
over and over again, no sugar. Stop putting sugar. Why
must they put sugar in our coffee? The only reason
I can think of is I just don't. I do

(36:42):
you get coffee out? So I do, but I'm usually
or ordering cold brew. And when I get it cold.
Usually I just asked for black because that's good enough
for me. I think. I think the key is that
you're getting it with a little bit of cream. And
I don't know if many orders that do cream but
no sugar, But that's that's true. They should get your
order right though. On that that's not an easy but

(37:03):
they even if I just did the black, because there
was times when I would just go black, there's some
reason why they just gotta. They gotta late only sugar,
and I don't want any sugar. I gotta put the sugar.
It's like it's you know what, I hate the morning? Alright,

(37:25):
I realized how much I did test the morning. I
don't like anything about the morning. I don't like the
food because I don't like eggs. Eggs though, right, Like see,
I don't like an egg, and God for it, they
want to throw an egg on everything. Like what about
people like us like me that don't like eggs? What

(37:48):
do we There's nothing we can eat because I don't
want all the car of the bagel every time or
whatever the brand. I can't do that. Yeah, I mean,
you could probably get some with just some bacon on
it or some at but yeah, most of the time,
if you're getting like bas I want to throw the
egg on. Yeah, absolutely right. It's like they saw the

(38:09):
travesty that they started this breakfast pizza which sounds awful actually,
which is terrible. What what is all? Hold up? I've
not had the misfortune of the breakfast pizza. So is
that like a tomato sauce they're doing. It's not tomato,
it's it's a it's a white pie with egg. Oh no, no, no, no, no,

(38:33):
that's too You can't you want you want to load
up on some good stuff, like if egg's not your things,
I can't do it anything with you. You want your
breakfast to be filling, but not when I think pizza,
I think that that's too filling from a yeah, I
agree with that. But second of all, day've destroyed like

(38:55):
they destroyed pizza. All right. It's a strong, ain't it. Yeah?
Like somehow and I say this will due respect that
Portland got named the number one pizza city in America
and and and I sold the USA today and I'm
like why, first of all, that's why I'll go to

(39:17):
USA today for killin ary advice. But there was a
picture and they put egg on to pizza. Oh, like,
are you kidding me? That's like a few years ago
when I saw some New York paper bragging about the
barbecue in Brooklyn and it's like this lonely sad plate
of unsauced brisket and like a couple of It's like no, no, no, no,

(39:40):
no no no exactly, like you know, I don't go
down South and and and and be you know, like
I missed the barbecue, right, Like, you know, you gotta
you gotta allow the region to be the region. You
know what I'm saying, Nikki. That's the thing. It's like,
if you're in New York, you do pizza. If you're
in Philly, dude, cheesesteak Connecticut, right, Like, you know, there's

(40:02):
a lot of good pizza towns, but thrown an egg
on it, it doesn't make it cool, and it just
it just ruins it. And then they want to ruin
it with everything else, pineapple and all the other stuff
they don't belong on a pizza exactly. That's the thing.
I remember being in New York and it was just oh,
it's it's egg and bacon. So it's like that's not
on a pizza. That's how a pizza supposed to be.

(40:24):
I like pineapple on my pizza sometimes. Yeah, that's that's gross.
I agree though that I keep coming for coffee though,
like that's so many A lot of people order their
coffee black. How are you okay? That's I I don't
get those people exactly stopping sugar in my flipping coffee. Alright,
because all right, we're gonna celebrate football, I promise comes

(41:35):
good morning, good morning, good morning, happy happy sports Saturday
to all across the nation. We uh it's a happy day.
It's a gold medal day. And uh I did wanna.
I don't want to lose it because what Durant did
during this whole thing with Kevin Durant did has just

(41:58):
been amazing, incredible. I he deserved a lot of respects.
So I just want to bring it up just to
say it because you know, listen, the dude didn't have
to play. He bulled out in Brooklyn where Kyrie wasn't there,
Harden was on one leg, all of it fell on

(42:20):
his shoulders, balled out. I remember that Game seven, the
overtime game he plays, whether it was fifty one minutes.
I mean, it was ridiculous what he did. He played,
and he goes into Japan and he is the go
to guy, dame suffering with a little bit of an
abdominal thing, and it was all about k D and

(42:45):
Tatum also Jason Chant and my thought had a really
good kind of gold medal run. He really did, becoming
his secondary score. But this was a Kevin Durant take
a bow, dude, you deserve it. Where a lot of
eyes didn't want to go play the Olympics, right, Guys
like Ben Simmons who wanted just again didn't go play

(43:09):
for his team Australia. You think about that. You know,
I don't want to be harsh, but if I was
in Australia, you'd be exiled. Well come on, dude, well
you're not playing like what you know. You gotta you know,
the work with work on your game in the gym.
You gotta work with your game in front of people.
You're finding the gym. It's when there's people around that

(43:29):
you're running hide in plain sight. But that's I use
him as an example. Meanwhile, k D goes and just
balls out and gets USA to gold. So I gotta
give him and had a guy give him a shout
out of a yo, shout out to Kevin Durant for
an incredible performance in the Olympics. Incredible performance. Uh. Also though,

(43:55):
and I want to get this going because I know
I got sidetracked to a little left y like I'm
a coffee guy, right. Most Italian people like coffee, and
we're very particular about the coffee. So when you when
you go get the coffee and it's not to your specification.
It throws off, Like I feel like I it got

(44:18):
from my day got thrown off. And we're superstitious people.
So if something bad happens early in the day, you
have to fear what other pitfalls are waiting for you
later in the day. Does that make sense, Chris, Yeah, yeah, no,
I'm I'm definitely with you on being a superstitious persons.

(44:39):
You I you at that point in the day where
you strike out once or twice and then it's just like,
all right, I'm just gonna go home and hide out
of the covers a little bit because I don't know
what other what I think today, who I've caught the
evil eye from. I just need to get out of
the out of the public eye for a little bit, exactly.
So it's funny, right, So, you know, I I do

(45:01):
a lot of different things. I hustle up, I love
to write, and I've created a couple of um a screenplay,
TV series, a couple of things I'm working on, and
you know they're in very stages of close right to
being made. So you know, you always want to check
in and if stuff, little things happen that don't go

(45:23):
my way in the morning, like little new little kind
of bad luck things signs I don't. I don't mess
with it. Like if I see a call from California,
I won't answer it because I fear that it's bad news.

(45:45):
Is that weird? No? No again, As I said, like,
I get to that point too where it's just I
if I start taking else too hard, and maybe that's
maybe that's weak for me, but I it's more if
anything's superstition at that point where it's like this, this
bad thing has happened, this bad thing has happened. Everything

(46:05):
is just gonna keep snowballing. I'm not going to add
more to the plate to deal with it tomorrow when
the vibes are better. Yeah, I read it. I'm the
same way, dude, I wake up, I read the tea
leaves I go it's not a good day. Or in
this case, trying to read the coffee and seeing that
the sugar when you didn't ask for sugar exactly didn't

(46:25):
ruined it anyway. On Thursday, it begins for everybody. We
saw a glimpse. Did you watch the whole Fame game? Chris?
Did you put it on? I did I put it on?
From Yeah? You know everyone man everybody wants everyone wants

(46:46):
to pull it fake football. I don't care, like I
love having it. And guess what, it's fun to see
what some of the how some of these teams are
battling out, especially in the bottom. Uh. Dnucci was kind
of an interesting guy to watch there and just in
general too, like Kansons Kansas just a fun The pageantry

(47:07):
of the Hall of Fame game, it's all the gold
jackets out before the game kicks off, and it's that
first kickoff and just it feels like you're you're getting
back to something. It's yeah, it's not the regular season,
it's not that first Thursday, but it's the next best thing.
It's it's building up. Football in August is a slow

(47:29):
process of growth from just feeling out, feeling out, dipping
your toes in the water, and then a month later
we're just gonna all just be jumping in headlong. You
know it's funny, you said that's true, right, So the
rhythm of like this out is from me. And first
of all, let me just congratulate you, my man, because

(47:50):
a lot of people, like you said, they want to
rip it, they want to call it fake football. Man.
Then it thinks pretty d and they just want to
pay on it. Right when I try to explain to you, listen,
I just want to see the helmets, right Like, I

(48:13):
understand that the Hall of Fame game, and I actually
felt I got a little bit more like you know,
I got to see clay Pool, right Like, I got
to see a couple of starters here and there. But
I understand that it's not doesn't mean anything. And but
it's the first game that's televised. It's the first game

(48:33):
that occurs after the Super Bowl. So you have all
those months that you wait for it, right, super Bowl
was early February. Think about you had to wait basically
all of February, March, April, May, June, July, now August. Right,

(48:53):
you had to wait six full months to see football,
six months so that when it's on. I mean, I
don't understand why you would just rip it. Yeah, And
I'm not asking for everyone to like watch the whole
Hall of Fame game back to front, however long you

(49:13):
want to last in the water. It's like, all right,
I'm done. I watched you know, a couple of drives
and then you're out. But that's fine to at least
like you know, just get your toes ready, and it
might be for me because I cover in particular the
Detroit Lions. I'm gonna be watching all of their preseason
game because especially if that's your team. Some of these
some of these battles we we kind of just you know,

(49:36):
dismiss it sometimes, like just call me when we get
the final fifty three man roster. There are some fun
stories to be had on just seeing where some of
those battles are on the depth charts. See guys on
the second team just really balling out. And I would
just talk to my friend too about we we started
a gambling podcast on our prior to Detroit Feed, which

(49:57):
you know everyone has a gambling podcast now, so I
had to been. But we were talking about there are
certain coaches if you know how to get away your
around your way in the preseason. Some of these coaches,
there's good money to be made knowing which coaches are
are sure things in the preseason. Yeah, yeah, you're right
about that. Hey. By the way, fella is brought you

(50:17):
by discovered discovered matches, all the cash back, and you
earn your credit card at the end of your first year.
It's amazing because discovers accepted at nine percent of places
in the United States that takes credit cards, Learn More,
Discovery dot com s, last Yes, and report Limit takes
his supply. You know, I'm with you, man, And that's

(50:39):
and that's my only point. When we talk about football
and the whole of Fame game, it's like, you know, why,
why why just pay on it? It just doesn't make
any sense. You got our wish to we there's only
gonna be three preseason games this year too, so you're
getting your wish. It's shorter, it's less, it's less low long,

(51:00):
but it's still enough to warm you up. And you
know how it works. And this is my only point
about the rhythm of the off season, the rhythm of
the preseason. You know, you want to watch the first
one because you haven't seen it, you haven't seen your team.
You want to see it. And then I get by
the last one by now be the third, normally it's

(51:22):
the fourth. By the last one, you're like, all right,
I'm ready for the season start. I got it, like
but again, it's all part of the celebration of welcoming
back football. Six months it's six long months. I have
missed it. I've missed it real bad. This is my

(51:43):
main sport. I love soccer. I talk a ton about soccer,
but American football is where my bread is buttered. Just
think about that. You're six months basically six months on,
six months off? Right? Were these all the sports? Are?
You know? Nine months? Damn b A in the Major League?

(52:03):
Baseball basically nine months, hockey nine months. That's why you
only get football six months? Come on, I can't wait.
So here's the deal. Here's our exercise. We're gonna start
it coming up next. It's called football now, and then
we'll start in the Then, so the first time you

(52:25):
saw your team, go back into your mind's eye whenever
it was who was on the screen, who is wearing?
You went, I love football? Oh my god? And you
when I lose this guy and this is awesome, look
at it? And who was what was the screw? What

(52:46):
was on the screen when you're watching it? And now
take a shoot the journey of quickly your fandom of
that team, and then culminate with expectations this season and
your guy this year. All right, that's what we're gonna do.

(53:07):
I love to get a representative of every team, but
we can do duplicates because everybody's experience is different and
it touches someone. You're we're all brethren, the men and
women who love football, we're all brethren. So when you
talk about you loving the Bills, per Se and Ferman

(53:28):
Thomas was on the screen, and you're like, wow, I
love this and you and you you live through the
Super Bowl disappointment and you know up until now where
look at it. You got a full fledged contender. I
want to hear me hear about it. Eight seven seven

(53:49):
on Fox, eight seven seven, nine nine on Fox. You're
listening to the Fellas. I'm ANTHONYA right here, Fox Sports Radio.
All right, thank you, thank you, welcome back. Good vibe there, Christie.
You saved my vibe in the morning. I got to

(54:10):
restore it somehow, exactly. It's uh. The only thing that
would make it even better is if you can find
some good football music. Let me see what I got.
You have any calls or anything like, gimme any give
me a call like I love a call. It's so stupid,

(54:33):
but I hear a complaint by play. I go let
me let me find you something. The next time we
bounce back. In the meantime, I can probably find some
NFL films music to get you in the mood. Yeah,
I like it. That sounds like a plan. I'm gonna
go to Michigan and the Great State of Michigan and

(54:53):
talk to Mike. Good morning, Mike, how are you yo?
Good morning, Anthony. I'm on my way to play eighteen.
So I'm real pretty good this morning. I love it, man,
Awesome what part of Michigan. I grew up in the
Southwest corner, Uh, real close to Order Dame, about an
hour from Chicago, right by Lake Michigan. Uh little town

(55:17):
called Niles, Michigan is where I grew up. Man. I
lived in Chicago for a while, like you, sorry, like you,
I big baseball fan as a kid, and you know,
we all grew up in that area, loving Order Dame.
But I remember in nineteen three the Super Bowl the

(55:40):
Redskins in Miami, and that was when I fell in
love with watching football and the NFL and might beloved
Washington Redskins or or whatever they are. Yeah, and why
she did football fan that sliver of Michigan. These crazy,

(56:04):
these crazy fans dressed in pig noses and big giant
dudes and Aloha dresses. Drinking beer and watching John Riggins
run rough shot. I fell in love with football in
the Washington Redskins and and uh yeah in bear Baby

(56:26):
that was. They were awesome, man, that's true. It was.
And I had some great years right uh in the nineties,
Um it was, and then it's been lean with a
sporadic I want to be had the RG three like
you got excited. Yeah, and then so I'll tell you

(56:49):
though this year, brother, I like your squad, man, I
think I actually think your squad can win the division.
I've got hopes, you know, because of the coach. Right,
but uh, you know it's one that's one thing that's
interesting about the NFL that's not with other sports is

(57:09):
even when your team thinks, you can watch other teams
play and get just almost as caught up into it,
like you know. So that that's my story. I could
see the Redskins fight song right now, word for word
on national TV or radio, but I'll pass because you

(57:30):
might be listening my do we do it? Yeah? Hell
to the Redskins, Hell victory on the war path, fight
for all DC. Yeah. I love him, brother, hit him straight, baby,

(57:52):
good job man, that's the way he started. Look at that.
Look at that. How about we started. I love that man,
that's great fireing off and I like him. Listen. I
think they're a good squad this year. I think Fitzpatrick

(58:15):
is a is a perfect kind of steward for that team.
That's got a great defense. I think they've got some
good skilled people on offense. He mentioned Ron rivera of
really good coach. I like them. I liked that. Watch
the football team a lot this year going into it.
But yeah, I remember that Super Bowl. I can close
my eyes and being a kid, same thing seeing the

(58:39):
Hogs ringo and uh against Dan Marino and the and
the Dolphins. I was probably rooting Dolphins and Marino. Wow,
what I remember that Super Bowl? Man, that was amazing. Uh,
let's keep it going, man, great first call. But I

(58:59):
love this. Scotty is in North Carolina, Scott, what do
you say? Good morning, my man? Good morning. What's happening baby?
I just listen to your show. I appreciate you being home. Uh,
it's it's Uh, it's a great entertainment for my coffee.
Thank you, my brother. How's your coffee taste? Good? Absolutely?

(59:22):
Bro awesome man, I'm glad yours does. Yeah, well, I
tell you what. I was just you know, you really
intrigued me with your questions. I'll tell you what. The
North Carolina, Uh, I don't really have anything to pull for.

(59:44):
I grew up and uh in the early eighties and
Harvey Martin, Randy White, that's what. That's what brought me
to be a Cowboys fan. My first memory, obviously is
watching my team fall to the catch in the back

(01:00:06):
of the end zones and that's what. Uh. I just
have pulled for him ever since. Wow. Yeah, I mean
you being and growing up in North Carolina, you didn't
have a team, you grew up, the first thing you
see is that Cowboy front and you go, wow, I

(01:00:28):
get it. I completely, I was totally. I was totally
in all of them growing up. I just I just thought,
you know, this is what a man is like that. Yeah,
just they would the epitome of it. So yeah, yeah,
it's so funny. I thought the same thing, right like

(01:00:49):
and when you like it was like, wow, man, those
dudes were made. They were the talk. I had the
same kind of reaction and all the catch Oh my god. Yeah,
it broke it broke my heart. I mean, we had
some good years. It's probably the hardest fan to be
of any sport that I can think of. When you're

(01:01:12):
a Cowboys fan, you have to take a lot and listen.
I'm guilty, right because I'm an Eagles fan. Right, So
I grew up there's a lot of Cowboys fans in
my area. So it's like the it's like the blood rival,
you know, Bro's it's crazy. It's your your desire and

(01:01:43):
your spirit is amazing. I'll tell that because I don't
feel like I've ever been hated more by anyone. Oh
that's beautiful, man, that is You're awesome, dude. Listen to Scotty.
I want to talked to you again. Man, thank you,

(01:02:04):
you have more thing my brother, thank you, thank you. Easy.
That's awesome. It's true. It's true. Oh I hate man,
We got we can give the hate. Cowboys do what
it is is there was, it was always born. I
could be real about it. It was born out of

(01:02:25):
jealousy because and and Chris, you can appreciate it because
you being a Lions man, You're there's something about your
character that you never left even though the team was
not a winner, So that there was this point. So

(01:02:48):
growing up and with being an Eagles fan they've ever won.
And so like you were just you had to be
an Eagles fan. And I'm a believer in the g bography,
like you're from a certain area, that should be your squad,
especially you grew up in this city where the team plays.
Like you look at Scott, he's Scott, he's in North Carolina.

(01:03:10):
He's a free agent. It's before the Panthers. So you know,
but my name. You gotta pick a team because you
see it, Like he said, he turned it on and
all of a sudden, he's like, Wow, what he's got.
That whole thing is mesmerized when you're I just remember

(01:03:30):
that first time I saw it, same, I had the
same reacts. This is this is awesome. It's football, all right,
it's going to Brian gets some trending. What's up? Bright?
What is going on? Ants? So we've got live Olympic
action going on. Team USA in baseball is down against

(01:03:52):
Japan and the gold medal game one nothing through five innings.
Also we've got in men's basketball the bronze medal game
taking place between Slovenia and Australia, with Slovenia in front
thirty one to eight of coursed many NBA guys on
either one of those international rosters. Earlier, we saw Team

(01:04:13):
USA men's basketball take home the gold, thanks in large
part to Kevin Durant, who scored twenty one of his
twenty nine points in the first staff. It was an
eight seven to eighty two victory over France as the
United States solidifies a fourth straight gold medal, and then
also a third straight gold medal for USA women's water

(01:04:37):
polo as they devour Spain fourteen to five. American Nelly
Korda wins the gold for women's golf, and that is
a sweep for golf in the Olympics for the Americans,
as Andrew Chaffle won it on the men's side. In
Major League Baseball, the Angels ruined the Dodgers in ten

(01:04:59):
and things for of three. The Halos tacked on two
runs in the top half of the tenth, and that
eventual game winner came after a flyball was dropped off
the glove of Max Munsey as he was trying to
chase down a shallow blooper in outfield. The Diamondbacks score
six runs in the fourth inning to tackle the Padres

(01:05:21):
eight to five. A three run homer for the A's
leads to a victory over the Rangers for one and
walk off style in eleven innings. The Brewers killed the
Giants Vibe two to one in ten innings, and rowdy
Telez sucks the game winning RBI. There now back to
a man who when he goes into the batter's box,

(01:05:43):
he is worth a double, a triple, even a home run.
He is who you go to in the clutch. It
is aunts and this is the fellas. Wow, how about that?
I was expecting something? Hello, you know what keep you
on your toes, Anthony? You know, a little jab there

(01:06:03):
and a jab there, and then an uppercut, but then
also a hug a little bit. Yeah, I respect that,
and then I yeah, and then when I take you
on the golf course one day and I beat you
by at least ten strokes, then we'll call that the
beat down portion, all right? All right? Then we'll go

(01:06:25):
to the basketball court. How about that? Okay, Well, you
gotta call fouls or are we not calling fouls? No? No,
And you definitely have the call foul. Okay. I'm looking
forward to seeing if you can dribble with your head
up please, I'll just say police, all right, police you got,

(01:06:47):
I'll give you the links, all right. That's the only
that's the only sport I'll give you. Okay, that's it.
You can any other sport you think you can beat
me any other the majors, but football, basketball, baseball, any
derivative of those three. So anything would have and and
and any fighting sport. Oh yeah, you probably have me there.

(01:07:10):
I mean any kind of fighting sport is fine. Six
ft yeah, yeah. I might get you in like chess
or cup stacking, yeah, or backgammon. You know, I'll get
you the get you in those places. How about pool?
How are your pool? Well, we'll see. The thing is, well,

(01:07:31):
when I beat you in pool, then you're gonna take
the pool stick and then try to beat me over
with it. We were just talking about this other day
about doing the Olympics were to the bar Olympics. Yeah,
and the bar Olympics would be the pool table, ping pong,

(01:07:53):
the hok rod hockey, the air hockey, the Golden tea. Oh, darts,
how are you a dart man? You gotta have darts,
no doubt about it. I'm trying to think about what
is that other? Ski? Ski? Ball? Were you rolling underhand? Yeah?

(01:08:14):
You roll yeah, yeah, games. I was gonna say, a
big bar game. Now, yeah, that's where that's where you
take your first date, right, you take the axe or
is that just me you enjoy enjoy? Are you a
big axe thrower, Chris? No, not no. I mean I

(01:08:37):
see the appeal for it. On the other hand, I
don't trust sharp objects unless I'm using it to for
You know what's funny about the axe throw and joints
because they became like in vogue the concept of B
y O B like to go watch great place bree
beers and I still go something the breaking beers and

(01:08:58):
throwing axes. I just don't understand. Yeah, I'm I'm good
missing out in that combination. I'm good, I you know,
especially in Philadelphia man, like you say, it's not good
sometimes to mix those two together. Anyway, we uh, we

(01:09:19):
gotta get a lot of the bars. The bar games
are fun. Are you always? Were you a bar game guy? See?
I grew up like there was a bar cors Street
from my house. Do you guys remember the great outdoor games? Yes,
where I see that's what I love to have, like
a chainsaw in my hands. That's oh yeah, because you

(01:09:39):
do know so so real quickly we're on top of
axe rowing. I love to do is go to the
axe rowing walk in see the nervous because I have
one arm for people who don't know, and walk and
see the nervous looks on the people's faces. And I
went one time, I picked up an ex I just
out loud, I go, I hope it goes better last time.

(01:10:06):
Oh dude, that's fit. Such a rise out of that stuff.
Oh my god. Oh that's great. I love it. I
love it. Oh, that's fantastic. You're you're good, Nikki, you're good, Nicky.
Tell me the first time because you played college football,

(01:10:27):
indeed the first time that you fell in love with
your NFL T Alright, So people who know I'm an
Atlanta Falcons fan, and for people I know, I grew
up in a fan because they're bad and you know
they're on TV all the time. I just never took
to them. Um, but you're ask violation, you know that. Yeah.

(01:10:47):
I mean my families are Giants fans too, and and
that's things like my first time I really got into football,
the first game I actually watched, sat down and watched
the full thing two thousand Super Bowl between the Giants
and the Ravens, and the Ravens just stop. So I'm like, God,
I can't root for this team. But the first time
I fell in love with the lamp Falcons. Go back
to two thousand two in Minnesota. Michael Vick forty six

(01:11:08):
yard game winning run, touchdown, touchdown run to win the game,
makes two defenders run into each other. You hear the
guy he's at the third Go Mike Vick, Go Mike Vick.
And I'm like, I I love Michael Vick and I
love this team. And that's how I became a Falcons fan.
I could see that. Plus, I mean, Vick was you know,
he wastrifying. He was an experience. Yeah he was not,

(01:11:32):
It's the truth. I mean he was again, that was
the first true video game guy. But just the way
he moved was was amazing. Two thousand and two. Wow,
that was your first Falcon. Look at that, dude. That's
pretty cool. That's pretty cool. And I believe the uh

(01:11:54):
was that the year they played the Eagles two thousand two.
I can't remember already in the game and I think
I was a playoff game. Yeah, I remember they played
the Eagles in the Champion the Eagles went to the
Super Bowl. I was right. That was two years later. Yeah, yeah,
interesting stuff, all right. Eight seven seven nine nine on
Fox is how you reach out to eight seven seven

(01:12:16):
nine nine on Fox, as we uh celebrate football, football
in its purest form, when you will when you first
discovered it, your team, who's on the screen, and then
tell us about your journey to now it's football now?

(01:12:40):
And then bad is in Ohio? Bad? What's happening? Baby? Baby?
How you feel? Brother? I'm doing outstanding. My journey to
the greatest game ever been just a little bit different
than party any other caller who's gonna call it? I
grew up been Canton, Ohio. I'm five years old. My

(01:13:04):
grandfather was a police officer an Alliance, Ohio. The police
department was called the Halls of Justice. We moved to
Canton and we drive past this building has two men
chasing one man, and I asked my father, said, Dad,
if grandfather's a police officer and he worked at the

(01:13:25):
Halls of Justice, why doesn't he work at that building?
Father said? My father says, stunned is time. So the
next day he took me to the Hall of Fame.
When I walked in the building, and I remember this
is Man five, so this is probably nineteens leven d

(01:13:49):
that more on in there soon It's just one building
at this time, not the megastructure that it is today.
Soon as I walk in the building, when you walk
then it was a life size statue of Jim Thorpe,
the sun in those paned glass windows that lined the ball,
the half ball that is the dome of the building

(01:14:10):
shown down on Jim Thorpe. And I was mesmerized. So
then my father takes me through. We go through the
actual hall, and I'm hooked. At that point, I immediately
became a fan of the FC. I don't know why,
but I've always been an FC fan, so it all

(01:14:34):
I was. I was a Brown fan up until I
saw a show called How each team got his colors.
Once I say, like I said, my my journey to
this name was a little bit. I love the story.
I played my high school football in Foston Stadium light
next to the Hall of Fame. So I went to

(01:14:55):
Camp McKinley. Paul Brown was from Massless, asked and Washington.
That's our arrival. Just the only time anyone who will
hear this, will hear me say the M word attached
to that school. I would never say it again. Their
colors are orange and black. Our colors are red and black.

(01:15:16):
When Paul got with the City Cleveland, they found the Browns.
They gave they used his last name and said you
can choose the color. So he chose orange for Asthless
said in the game with him, because for Asthles and
the Browns. Okay, so we grew up and the Jim

(01:15:36):
Brown fans as a kid, you know, out of bram
right now, my grand dad, I have all type of
memorability from the game because I grew up in a
high so that that show tells me how the Browns
got their colors. Well, their hatred. Gotta go love love, love,
love the city. But I can't support someone who got

(01:15:58):
there and start from ass in Ohio. Wow, this Snetti
Beagles Paul Brown team also was the NFL screwed him over?
You found the Bengals. You don't say now he went
to true assling colors of orange and black. Gud A
a female, so is a little bit different. I played

(01:16:20):
overseas in Glasgow, Scotland. Did you really it's awesome? Bringing military? No? No,
I literally played football from Scotland from college to go
to Scotland and play football. Awesome, man, what an experience. Yeah,
it was a winnerful experience. Man, it was. The game

(01:16:40):
has been good for me and it all started from
that visit to the Hall of Fame as a little boy.
Story bad. I love it. You're you're the man, brother,
Thank you. What a story, Chris. I was mesmerized by
that story stuff. Yeah, well, I love it, that whole fame,

(01:17:02):
the sun shining like I can. I can totally dig it, man,
I love it. Great call so far Man Hitting out
of the Park eight seven seven on Fox. I love
hearing these stories. I do. I love it. It's great
sharing this stuff man, eight seven seven nine nine on
Fox is How You reach Us? Where the Fellas right here?

(01:17:25):
On Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back Fellas talking uh little
football action gets excited this week. It all starts Thursday.
Everybody plays last Thursday. God you curse you kill me?

(01:17:56):
That's a that's a bust out man, which with this
same place I always do man Spotify. Nice thing. Nice
thing about my memory is sometimes my memory is pretty bad.
I remember I remember good artists, I remember good music.
Sometimes hard to find it. But I'll load something into Spotify,
or I'll load something like, you know, one of these

(01:18:18):
things that just kind of randomized it for me. I'm like, oh, yeah,
that's good, that's good. Yeah that works there all right,
and then I'm back in the groove again. It's pretty good.
I gotta know what's funny, Like this song is Rick
James all right, oh yeah love sweet right and your
love yeah right, like I you know Joe all love

(01:18:38):
it ain't got no dope, right, Like I remember the
song when I was a kid, say, and it was
funny the like my cousin I would play had this
right like and I remember Let's do it, you know,
like that was you know, that's sterical. I'm just shocked

(01:18:59):
because nobody you know, that's like old funk stuff. That's
good stuff about you, Chris. Anyway, It's one thing being
a music guy today, especially just so much access to
ever said it incredible. I mean, there is an amazing, amazing,
amazing music. I remember when I was starting in college
radio rating the old vinyl closet because they were getting

(01:19:21):
rid of it. Yeah. No, I I have a whole
crate at home on my mother. My mother is still
still calls me every now and then it's like, so,
what are you going to do about this vinyl crate?
I'm like, I don't know. I can't move it across
the country exactly. Want to spend wait till I get
like settled down, and then I'll have it in Yeah. No,
keep that, dude, that's that's gold right there. I just

(01:19:45):
went through. I had two storage places, right, and I
went through, and I have you have like in the music,
I just have sports stuff. Oh man. So I would keep.
I don't half a pack rat, right, So I would keep.
When I was in a newspaper writer and I would
go to it was probably my favorite gig where I

(01:20:08):
would go around the country and do these like five
thousand word stories, so in other words, like they would say, hey,
I heard about this quarterback at Alcorn State. Go fund
go overat a story on him, and it was Steve McNair,
right like, and you would go down and and and
then it would be like, oh shit with I mean,

(01:20:31):
it's just late nineties, early two thousand's. So it was
all that stuff like whatever, it was hot and doing
Jordan's stuff at all. And then when I kept all
these things for some day that I would have a
boy right now. I got two of them, and I
got boxes and stuff. And it's funny because the big
one doesn't could care less about it, right Like he's

(01:20:53):
he's playing football, which he warms my heart to no end,
but he's not really into it, into it. Plus I
think he's playing football because of me. The little one
plays baseball is pretty good, and he's got a little
bit of an eye for it. So he's kind of
like like he has his baseball cards, which actually made

(01:21:14):
me happy, Chris, like the fact that he was showing
me is his little baseball car collects the last night,
which roll my car. I gave him all these boxes.
I go, dude, you take a look at this stuff,
you know, And I try to go with throw with
him to put it in your room, and he loves it.
So that's that, that's kind of it's pretty cool. Hard
to find those baseball card enthusiasts who aren't just trying

(01:21:36):
to flip all those cards for just a ton of money.
So right right, well, honestly got blessed, man, blessed if
you can do it. But it just feels like that's
it's like God, that was like me and my my brother.
All the kids in my class playing Pokemon Cars. Now
all these cards are going for like five digits. I'm like, wow,
I should have held onto all these Yeah, that's crazy.

(01:21:57):
Next hour, all calls. I want to talk to you guys.

R to listen live. All right, good, good, good morning,
Happy Saturday across the nation. We hope you're Saturday morning
is going swimming, Lee and say they am in the East, five,
I am in the West. Have a great weekend. It's
August the seven, and uh, the fact that it's August
the seven is kind of where we're at baseball, and

(01:22:42):
it's great because they've playoffs heating up a little bit.
You could see it. Things taken form great races in
the East, in fact, the al East with the Jay
he's in, the Yankees, hot Red Sox trying to stay alive,
and afloat Tampas lurking. All three of those teams win,

(01:23:04):
Red Sox lose, Phillies overtake the Mets in the NL
East Mets, sinking Braves playing some good ball, so good,
some good baseball going on. But it's football, come on,
like I know that. And we've been talking about Kevin
Durant what he's done for Team USA basketball and some

(01:23:26):
of the free agents, but it's football time, that's it.
We saw our first glimpse of the Hall of Fame
game and it made me wanna to do this thing
where because I was telling somebody because I was getting mocked.
I gotta be real with you guys. I was getting
ripped on my local show for talking about the Hall

(01:23:49):
of Fame game. I know who's in the night. And
it was Thursday, as you guys know, and the Phillies,
the home down team, was playing a day game. So
it wasn't even like you could sit back and you
can go, well, I want to watch the Phillies and
not the football game. There was nothing that there was

(01:24:09):
the only sports one at night other than the Olympics. Said,
come on, who's gonna see it's somebody gonna who's with me?
Who's gonna at least watch a quarter? And I couldn't
get anybody because here full of people and everybody, why
you're gonna watch that. That's trash. That's trash. Who care?
Blah blah blah, And like I just want to say,

(01:24:34):
sometimes the simple things in life is a beautiful thing.
Obviously you don't do you don't need to glean anything
from Steelers Cowboys in the Hall of Fame game. But
sometimes it's not like you need to go second level.
You can just enjoy the ice cream, just the plain

(01:24:58):
ice cream and just go, you know what, this is nice.
I I go six months without football, it's back and
I get to watch it and I just looking at
the helmets and letting it wash over me, right, just
get lost and the images and thinking about you know,

(01:25:21):
seasons past and looking forward to this coming season. That's it.
It's it's simple. It doesn't need to be like wow,
that's to do. How could you watch this? Just tragic
And it's not about that. It's about the simplicity of
of the fact that this football season and six months

(01:25:42):
six months on, six months off. You know, we wait
a long time for this. So when I when we
got our first glimpse Thursday night, I don't know, I thought,
you know, that's what we do as as sports fans,
we leap toward it. So today's theme is football now

(01:26:05):
and then, and it's when you discovered your team, you're
anfl team, when you put on the television and you
watch for the first time, and you watched it and
you went, oh my, I love this, I love this
sport like you're and you like, who's that dude? It's

(01:26:28):
your first player that you went, yeah, like I I
hear Dwight Howard yesterday, Chris, you want to talk about
nauseating talking about guys being on their appreciated what what?
What do you want? Do you want like being carrying
around like you're like the emperors of Rome? It's white.

(01:26:52):
Howard said that. He said yesterday, said that there that
this is a group. It's under appreciated. That Russell Westbrooks,
I'm there appreciating that the whole team effects. I'm there appreciated.
Wait wait, the Laker, the Los Angeles Lakers are underappreciated. Yeah,
look at the get to cut this book. I I

(01:27:15):
know that the sports radio landscape filled up with takes
about the Lakers being old guys, which, by the way,
I'm in my like mid thirties. Now. The idea that
mid to late thirties is like a ARP feels very weird.
But I mean, these guys still play basketball, they still
play at at an extremely high level. Yeah, they're gonna

(01:27:37):
have to take you know, minutes off down the stretch,
but so does everyone. And I don't know, you know,
if if injuries will become an issue or what, but
every it's injuries are problem for no matter the age. Like,
so I don't I pushed back on the a ARP
thing a bit, but yeah, it's the Lakers. It's the
most storied franchise out there, and they're going out and

(01:27:59):
getting the biggest players around some of the like we
all know the name Dwight Howard, we all know the
name Carmelo Anthony, We know all these names. What what
am I not appreciating here? I I get it. We
stack these guys up against the history books a lot.
We stack them up against especially in battle against Yeah

(01:28:20):
that's that's what are you talking about? Stop? I appreciated? Yeah, dude,
Like I never understood that where a guy goes well,
we're and it happens a lot, and it just makes
no sense to me. Like, what are you talking about? Underappreciated?
Like what more do you want? Yeah? You already have

(01:28:42):
agulation you already have all the riches in the world.
What do you want? Who cares if somebody, if some pundit,
if some j O on the radio like me says X,
Y and Z, what is the matter? What do you care?
Because why I never understood like the other day, and
this is why some of these dudes need a reality

(01:29:02):
check in the worst way. So Ben Simmons is on
Twitter and or I maybe his Instagram, and he responded
he there was a troll doing something, saying something to him,
and he picks him out out the leite, Like, let's

(01:29:24):
face it, there's not a shortage of people ripping him
right now, all right, he was mocked on the espies,
but he picks this dude and right away goes, will
look at that profile picture and he goes and he
attacks him. Now, was the guy wrong for a trolling him? Yeah, okay,

(01:29:48):
but give me a break. If you're Ben Simmons, you
you're gonna pick a pick on this dude. Seriously, who
do you care? What do you care? You? It's so
stupid and that's why he like especially the NBA man
thin skinned. Give me a break. Yeah, I don't know
what more you want? I am? I am sympathetic to

(01:30:09):
the argument that we heap a lot of hate upon them.
I am sympathetic to the argument that it's got to
be grading and it's only human to respond. But at
the same time too, I'm also someone who has really
tried to scrap just to survive financially a lot of times.
So when I see guys going out there and just
I don't know, man, it seems like a really good

(01:30:31):
life to be, you know, at the top of everyone
wants you and everything, and I get that. It's it
can be rough. Still don't like, but here's the bottom line.
The bottom line is it's it's just about social media.
That's it. Because no one's gonna go up to any
of these dudes and say anything vile to them. The
most of the encounters they get are flowers, rose petals,

(01:30:54):
which is fine. I just don't get the whole you know,
we're on the appreciate it. I just don't even understand it.
But here's more than you than I think I think
it is. But it's and as Herm Edwards said, there's
an easy solution. Just don't press send. Just don't press send,

(01:31:15):
don't do it. But I don't even don't even get
worry about. I just don't even understand why why would
you even have social media account? Why not just like
hand it over to someone, pay someone to manage it
for you, and then just leave it alone. Why do
you got to be on social media to begin with? Whatever?
I you know, it's part of the culture. It's fine.

(01:31:36):
A Molly point is I don't know why you get
been out of shape over especially when you're like a
an elite player, Like seriously, who cares about nonsense? That's
that's my only thing. And it's the same ridiculous like
Jason Garrett tell him guys to call him coach. How
about I call you not an idiot because you're a

(01:31:58):
horrible coach in Dallas. Horrible. All you did was this,
you clapper, horrible coach? Call me coach? Yeah, I call
you an idiot because you stinking you should were a
horrible coach. About that coach ridiculous. That's why these people needed.
Uh you want to talk about just the reality check,

(01:32:23):
But I eschew the negative for celebrate our own I
don't let that nonsense permeate how we think about sports,
and especially in this case football, We've had a lot
of great calls today, and so I ask you today

(01:32:44):
to take me back in your own world, wherever it is,
whatever part of the country, and tell me when you
first turned on the television and you saw it, you
saw football, Tell me about it. Mark, Good morning, Good morning,

(01:33:09):
my friend. How are you, brother? I am sitting on
the best cup of full just coffee there is. But
it's not too hot though, It's just that perfect temperature
and it's exactly the way you want it. Yeah, And
I'm in the mountains of southwest Virginia and that's a
beautiful day. Yep, good day. Pretty soon we're gonna get

(01:33:30):
to that time when there's the nip in the air,
smell in the air, and the leaves and it's like,
this is football time. I digressed to nineteen ninth birthday,
September sevent my birthday. Get for us to go to
the Cowboys and the Browns. And the right of passage

(01:33:50):
though is you had to carry the lunches with the guys,
which I didn't understand at the time, but got there
and the security guys, what's what's in the eggs? My
dad said, our lunch and he's smiled at me. Let
me in of course it was uh, quite a bit
of beer in those bags. And we walked and we walked,

(01:34:13):
and I'm nine years old and I've never seen so
many people. And then we come out from the tunnel
and boom, my mind and my eyes. I couldn't take
it on that eight four thousand, five hundred that day,
and we said in the small little wooden things called
the bleachers my dad had season tickets to. Now it's
called the dog Pound. Um I was. I sat down.

(01:34:36):
I didn't even feel the beer in my arms anymore't
of course the guys are ripping the bags open right away,
and uh, I will remember what well that I said,
the most important thing is and n cowboys were up
and coming. Then if you're a call I remember some
saying I'm going to see the fastest human in the world,
because Bob Hayes had just one, and that was my thing.

(01:34:57):
I was like, oh gosh, I finally got to see
him in My friend let me borrow because we didn't
have enough money, borrowers binoculars, and that's all. I watched
for just a little while on the sidelines. And then
there was a guy named Dan Reeves there and of
course Landry with his hat, and then the Browns and
Jim Brown retired. But there was a guide up and
coming called Leroy Kelly. I'll never forget when we get

(01:35:21):
all the way up there, I said. Then her best God,
the five guys are with us, and says I says
I'm wrong, No, son, come on. And so anyway, we
did not miss if we did not miss the check off.
But what a beautiful experience. The grass seemed greener. And

(01:35:44):
again that smell in the air. You know you can.
It's hard to articulate, but she can. Mark You brought
me there. Your words were perfect. Thank you. I can't
I keep you over. How incredibly well the callers have

(01:36:05):
our chick. You guys have articulated these moments. You've brought
me next to you. You've grabbed my hand and brought
me to that moment in nine where you throw your
nine year old eyes. Brilliant, I mean, excellent calls. I

(01:36:27):
keep you, please keep him coming, because I love it.
I'm enjoying every second of it as we celebrate our
own love for the big scan football fellas right here
on five. All right, welcome back. I've been loving the
conversation this morning, celebrating football of course USA wins the

(01:36:52):
Gold k d outrageous baseball, some good stuff going on.
It's man, I still can't believe the Giants still four
up on the Dodgers, Pods, still seven a haf back.
It's still going to be a good race. I feel
like they are coming down to earth here. Yeah they stink,

(01:37:15):
Yeah yeah, this was just a matter of time. It
just feels right to to restore. I I don't know
how to make the the end of the the NL
West right now. Just I watched the Dodgers again again
and losing an extra innings. I know, I know, it's amazing, man,
close ball games, bullpen. I've been talking with our friend Bo,

(01:37:39):
you know, former producer on this show, sometimes comes back around.
But he, uh, he is not in love with this
extra inning rule that MLB has instituted, and I can't
blame him, especially when the Dodgers are seem to always
be on the losing end of it. I hate it too.
I think it's horrible. Yeah, it's just it's so. It's

(01:37:59):
Nick Year, so is it. I I'm good, good, good,
good good. It's going away. I hate it too, but
not it's weird, you know, I mean putting a runner
on second base. I don't know. I just don't get it.
I don't like it. I don't like the seven any
double headers either. Well, here's what we do. Love three
preseason games, and I'm one that I love the seventeen.

(01:38:23):
And I know there are a lot of people go, ah,
you only need to do it. I love the seventeen
regular season games. Big day yesterday for Josh Allen and
the Bills. Excellent contract, big money, but it's his testimony
of great coaching and what you can do with a player.

(01:38:44):
Watching his evolution into becoming a a great quarterback he is,
It's amazing. Josh Allen. Top five quarterback Derek Is in
New York. Good morning, Derek. I'm calling you again from
skin acted in New York. I'll tell you you you
your enthusiasm got me out of bed. I have the

(01:39:06):
radio on Anthony on Low. A lot of people leave
their TV on at night, and I had the radio
on low. And I want to compliment you and your
producer allowing your callers to tell their stories and and
and Anthony. Your enthusiasm is just amazing. Man. I've talked
to you before you got that little boy, and you
never lose that. Never lose it, man, your your callers
have it. That guy from Canton, Ohio is freaking awesome.

(01:39:29):
I mean, that's why we listen. That's why we've never
lost a little boy and us never mind. Did sometimes
the women in our life say, oh, it's just a game.
Hey man. It was the tapestry of my life. There
were pictures. There's pictures that my parents took and unfortunately,
my father died when I was seven years old. And
that's part of my brief story is they have pictures
of me watching the nineteen sixty two NFL Championship game

(01:39:51):
between the Packers and Giants. Now my kids, my sons
are grown up. They wouldn't watch a whole game to learn,
like six or seven. But I watched this whole game
at four. I don't remember watching that game, but they
got pictures of this. But what got me, Anthony, what
got me to be the serious fan? I became a
Packer fan. I ran a Packer fan club here in
the Albise connected the area thirty five years. A lot
of enthusiasm with that. That that's another story in itself.

(01:40:11):
But the thing that really got me to be a fan,
and I was so so into this. I was in
There was a fan, there was a friend of the
family that took care of me when my mother was ill,
and I was kind of bummed out. You know, I
was an only child, and I was looking through some
old newspapers they had. They said, oh, we're throwing these
papers out, and it was a boring Sunday afternoon. I'm
like ten years old, and I kept finding pictures of football.
I kept finding like high school football, college football, pro football.

(01:40:35):
And I said, you know what, I'm gonna cut these
pictures out, Anthony. I made these scrap books. Man, I
still have them, and that yeah, yeah, I mean, I
mean there's pictures of guys that played in high school
now that are probably like seventy five years old. But
you know what, that little kid that got me going.
That's you know, I was always a good athlete, but

(01:40:56):
I became a really better one because I was so psyched. Man.
And the second thing that did it for me was
those those features. And the people in your audience are
over sixty would remember this. But back in the day, Anthony,
back in the late sixties, you couldn't get highlight shows
and all that stuff. What they had the NFL had
this week in Pro Football, and you know they had
those highlight packages shows for like a half an hour

(01:41:17):
on Saturday afternoon. Man, we watched those religiously. We would
watch those things, get into full pads and go try
to play anybody in the neighborhoods. Just crazy, man. I
mean I collected all the magazines, all the books. I mean,
like you you talk about almost being a pack round,
I got old books that are just freaking wonderful. Man.
I go back to I go back to those old books,

(01:41:38):
and I'm a kid again. Man. You can't replace that.
That's beautiful and that's exactly what it means. It's what's
what it means. And I remember and when I hear
Charlie Jones and and Pat some roll, Man, Charlie Jones
is my favorite announcer of all time. And watching those
NFL things, man, that just got me. And to this day, man,

(01:42:00):
I've never lost that little kid in me. It carried
me from times when my father died and I was
alone and I could play ball. Man. I was one
of the first guys picked all the time because I
was into it. You know, it was won your brother,
Oh God, bless you. Man, really, I so enjoyed it,
and your lesson is so on point because it's years ago.

(01:42:26):
Actually wasn't that long ago. It was probably about fifteen
years ago. Um. I read a piece in it was
Esquire magazine and it was just dude who was suffering
from depression. And it's interesting because derek story reminded me
of this. I just think about what he said. Sports

(01:42:51):
in this case, football got him through life's travails, right,
like man, life's unfair. Life can be hard, you know,
holding onto a good time just as tightly as you
can because things change. And you know, here was Derek,
a young boy, and you know, Loris's dad, his mom

(01:43:13):
is sick, and you know, what do you cling to?
And he clung the sports. It was his safe haven.
And I'm reading this piece and it was in Esquire
magazine and the guy had serious depression and he said
his happy place was watching an ESPN Big twelve game

(01:43:39):
with Brent Musburger on the call. And it was this
moment that I realized, it kind of crystallized for me
that basically what sports is to us, it's our it's
our happy place, right, our safe haven, a place we
can retreat to when life gets tough, and it's also

(01:44:03):
a companion, like he was an only child, so it's
there for you. It's always there for you. And I'll
never forget reading this piece. And the guy said, talk
about how you found He found peace? P E A
c E. He found peace by listening to Musburger and
I love Brent right called gain and like, I'm like,

(01:44:25):
I'm serious. You know it doesn't need to be Trolie
Jones or John Madden or any of those. All the
voices from me right now, I get peace. I listened
to Joe Buck. I love Joe Buck. I'm gonna tell
you off the bat. I think that dude is an
incredible broadcaster. First of all, he's a great baseball. He's

(01:44:48):
incredible football. I love Joe Buck. And when I hear him,
I'm Joe. He's Troy. He's Troy. I'm Joe. You know,
Welcome in everybody. It's the you know, the game of
the week on Fox. I mean I I still I
look forward to four, you know, really four o'clock. Every game,

(01:45:11):
the one o'clock game, and then they have the big
one of four and you you're going over, especially when
it's your team and there it is and there's the
first pictures of the stadium, and welcome with everybody. He's Troy,
I'm Joe and run off the bat, you know, or
nance talking about you know, hello friends with Romo. I mean,

(01:45:35):
I still love that. That's still a happy place for me.
All right, let's take quick recipe. We'll get back to
your phone calls, which have been parx. They've been incredible,
just amazing, Brian, give us some trending, baby, you got it.
And so the chances for Team USA baseball to win

(01:45:57):
the goal they are running out. They are down into
Japan a one nothing in the eighth thinning, So a
couple more opportunities and that is it for Team US, saying,
of course, that is a roster comprised mostly of minor
league players and has been in Major League Baseball from earlier.
Team USA men's basketball was able to capture the gold,

(01:46:19):
thanks in large part to Kevin Durant, who came to
the rescue with twenty nine points in the eight to
win over France. That is the fourth straight gold medal
for men's basketball. Now in the bronze medal game, it's
taking place right now, and Australia has a lead against
Slovenia eighty three to seventy eight a little more than

(01:46:43):
three minutes into the fourth quarter, and Patty Mills has
been going bonkers offensively, just a juggernaut thirty six points
and six rebounds through the first three quarters as he
is trying to nearly single handedly carry the Ausies to
the bronze. From earlier as well, it was a gold

(01:47:03):
medal for Nelly Corta in women's golf, the American, the
twenty three year old ranked number one in the world.
It is a sweet for the Americans and golf on
the men and women's side. For gold and specifically for Karta.
She is the first ever male or female to win
a Gold and a Major in the same year. A

(01:47:25):
couple of notes from Major League Baseball from last night.
The Angels triumph over the Dodgers in ten ennings, four
to three, and the struggles continue for the Dodgers when
playing extra inning games. They are one and eleven this
season when games go beyond nine innings. The Diamondbacks score
six runs in the fourth inning too, Body slam the

(01:47:47):
Padres eight to five, a three run jack by Starling Marte.
Shepherds the Angels excuse me. The A's past the Rangers
for one in eleven innings and walk off style, and
the Brewers kill that Giants vibe to one in tendings
as Rowdy tell As sucks the game winning r and
b I and aunt, you must be happy as your

(01:48:09):
Phillies got a win against the Mets, as they got
it done four games to two, as I bounced the
basketball back to a man who I think might be
in for quite the battle one on one if we
were able to go head to head on the courts here.
Sometime you get out to the West coast. You got it,

(01:48:30):
my brother. I appreciate you. Man. Welcome back, Fellas. I'm
cause you've got Psycho Chris Nikki. You good. I'm good
cause just in here listening to all these people talk
about their love for football and how they got into
the game, and what I love hearing about these stories.
It's just how unique each thing is. I mean, you

(01:48:52):
had the game in Cans saying, you know, riding by
the Hall of Fame, and his dad's saying, well, it's time,
you know, it's time I show you this game of ball.
You know some people it's hey, you're at a family
barbecue and you get tossed the football and that's how
you learn. Sometimes you're you're Lary, just walk around the
house and your dad's got the game on, you sit down,
you have a moment. You know. It's it's unique and

(01:49:13):
different and it brings us all together, it does. Man,
do you remember the first time you saw it in
the NFL game? Well, so I haven't been to an
actual inion, I'm just talking about on TV. Oh yeah,
the first time you saw it on TV? You went
It had to be the two thousand Super Bowl because

(01:49:34):
that that was the first time I really liked because
I had heard about like the Super Bowl with the
Rams and the Titans, but I hadn't watched it. And
then two thousand rolls around. My Mom's like, we're going
over your uncles because he's having a Super Bowl party.
I'm like okay, and we're just sitting I remember it perfectly,
just sitting in the living room, my whole family and
I just watching the Giants get taken to school by
the Ravens so and seeing everybody just hanging their heads.

(01:49:57):
So it was eventful moment that was watched away with
some pizza and some drinks, and it was. It was
a fun time. It's cool. I like it. All right,
Let's get back to our phone calls and our friends.
Tim is in Virginia. Good morning, Timmy, Hey, good morning guys.
I held doing today. What's going on? My man? Hey, listen, Aunt,

(01:50:19):
I grew up. I think we're probably close to the
same age. I don't know, but I grew up in
Bucks County, grew up as a kid an Eagles fan.
But I wanted to touch on first my memories early memories,
and you kind of touched on it with the Brent
Musburger and Charlie Jones and and all that. I mean,
I as a kid, I just I just ate that up.
And I just loved just sitting in front of the

(01:50:41):
TV on Sundays and watching that, listening to that. You know,
you're a looking live, you know what I mean. Really,
it was the best. Like when I was a kid,
Like they were dragons to mass right church on Sunday
morning and I would be like, I asked my father, Dad,
who do you mind if we leave to communion so

(01:51:01):
we get home like cats the NFL today. He's like,
I'll work on it, and he would do it. You know,
I would go to earlier Mass for that reason, and
that would go to early Mass. But you used to
go to twelve. But then you know football cheason, Mom, Mom,
can we go to ten thirty ten best on Saturday?

(01:51:22):
Because you get the four thirty years anyway, you can
get the four thirty. I hate to say like that,
but when you're a kid, you're like, oh, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, No.
I was a kid. I remember my earliest memory real
quick wash you know, I was freezing my butt up.
My dad took me the Eagles game like seventy eight
at that stadium, just just you know, free like tender.

(01:51:45):
I don't know. It was awful, and I think he
actually passed me a flask. I think I was fourteen.
Someone give me a blast or something. That was my
early memory. Reason I called though, was I wanted to
tell you what I less you get a kick out
of this. As I became a Tampa fan, let me
run a date by you and December thirty one Eagles history.

(01:52:12):
So that was the fog ball go. So I'm a
I'm a diehard Eagles fan, you know, you know, I
was like you you know Ron Joe Worski, you know,
nineteen eighties Super Bowl. We lose that with Buddy Ryan
all this, I'm all excited. You know, it's a great
you know, best defense. Jerom Brown, Dirty Waters, all the boys,
Reggie White. I thought the better team than the than

(01:52:33):
the Bears. And that was a competitive game. Keith Jackson
drops a wide open path, yadda, yadd Do you know
the story? But then the five it's a sunny day.
I mean it's people don't understand. It was like a
sunny day halftime, A fog comes in, I got, I got,

(01:52:54):
and they lose. So in modern mind, I'm sitting with
my buddies going, this is God and the Eagles will
never we true story. I got a few in me,
but not that many. And I'm saying, you know what, boys,
let's flip a coin. Who are the two worst teams
in the NFL? The Aints and the Yucks. I flipped

(01:53:15):
the coin. I said, you guys are witnesses to this
whatever when it comes up, heads is the box, tails
is the Aints both had bags on our on their heads.
I flipped the coin, and when nobody accused me of
being a bandwagon fan, heads it was Yucks one. I
invested in all the crests here and from that date on,

(01:53:35):
I became a Yucks fan. And here's another tidbit, of course,
my my Super Bowl aunt was two thousand and two,
ran da barbera pitter patting down the sideline against the Eagles. Here,
Joe Juravicious was ready to die when I was standing
on the sidelines next to the back game like five
ft from Andy Reid, crying in my and Mike. But

(01:54:00):
but that, but you know that. But I tell you
that that game was just you know it, just that
was the best game. I got one quick question, Timmy,
do me a favor because I gotta rubb one question.
When the Eagles finally won in party, I had to
be happy. Now you hit it on ahead. I was
living overseas. I was absolutely pulling for him in my

(01:54:22):
in my gut, I was actually happy. They want how
much money could money? Could you want? Saying that the
Saints and the Bucks would both win Super Bowls before
the Eagles. Oh, I know, brother, listen, I so appreciate
your call. Great stuff, man, it was really enjoyable. Yeah, no,
I hear you. And for those people, and see, there's
a there's a portion of football fans that can band

(01:54:45):
together and relate. It's like Chris right, So Chris is
Alliance fan, and like, it's almost cruel what Chris has
had to endure. Imagine having two of the greatest players,
greatest players in the history of the game retired prematurely,

(01:55:07):
Barry Sanders Megatron right, Imagine just the heartache after heartache
even now, like you finally get a quarterback and he
was wasted. After all those years of no quarterback, you
finally get one and he's wasted. And now he's in

(01:55:29):
l a right looking to win the Super Bowl. Stafford,
So that day that Tim talked about when fog grow,
imagine this. Imagine you're a fan of a team and
you're probably the better team, you're gonna win, and all
of a sudden, on a sunny day, Alpha Lake, Michigan,

(01:55:51):
fog rolls in and they never recovered and they lost
the game. By the time the fog did sit painted,
they had melted and they lost the game. Imagine what
kind of psychological issues. You wonder why I'm a half
of wacko. It's because of that, Chris. You understand that, Yeah,

(01:56:14):
I understand that the Lions have in rather incredible history.
So the Lions for me, are more are almost at
this point in academic study, and half of that academic
study is in just awful, terrible luck. Not just in
like that, you know, the picked up flag in the
Cowboys game, but just in like the past five years alone.

(01:56:35):
I could talk about a batted ball out of the
end zone, the Calvin Johnson catch, any manner of just
things where you're like, how how in the hell did
that happen? But it happened, and it happens in games
where the Lions were involved. You have endured it, my friend.
There's and there's like a handful of teams that, oh,

(01:57:00):
you're a pain. Listen. I won't. I won't get up
on the cross of my pain again. I've buried a
lot on my pain. And once again, it's almost an
academic study for me at this point. I tried to,
but you don't need I say that now. But if
the Lions ever get to that mountain top, I'm going
to be a frothing, raging madman, that's for sure, and

(01:57:21):
you should be. I still never forget when the Eagles
wanted we I had a bottle of tequill. A buddy
of mine gave me a bottle of tequila my cousin,
and I called them some of my childhood friends on
a corner with the tequila and a case of beard
in the middle of Philadelphia, like Center City. We're downtown

(01:57:42):
and just hugging everybody until it was six o'clock. Amazing
any more, We'll come back more of your calls. Eight
seven seven ninety old Fox eight seven seven nine nine
on Fox. Right here, fellas, all right, all right, welcome back, fellas.

(01:58:06):
I mean, I think a right again. Know as we
hang out on a beautiful Saturday morning, join our time,
and don't forget, fellas, were brought to you by this Discover. Yes, Discover,
imagine Discover where it's accepted in of places that accept

(01:58:33):
credit cards. It's amazing, that's right. Discover check it out
across the country places that take credit cards. Uh, don't forget.
It's limit tastes supply check out discover dot com. All right,

(01:58:53):
I want to talk to you Chris, real quick before
I get back to their phone lines. And I gotta
ask you about Messy. I heard Dan Patrick and we
put a little snippet of Messi's future. I saw something
about Paris St. Germain. Um, give me any kind of
stuff was his epl out. Yeah, so from what I'm seeing,

(01:59:14):
I think his father, who was also his agent, was
seen in Paris. They are meeting with Paris St p
SG right now. Who listen, They're they're probably the odds
on favorite. There's flush with so much money and every
time there is a big one of these big players available,
like you know, they went't got neymar that was kind
of their first big move when you had all this

(01:59:36):
money just flushed there. And I'm kind of rooting for
him not to go to PSG just because the French
domestic league is so it No no one watches the
French domestic League. PSG just wins it and we just
wait to see him play in the Champions, which is
kind of cool. You know he'll get an easy ride
of Champions. But I think I kind of want to

(01:59:58):
see him playing the Premier League. I don't know who
could pull that off except from maybe Manchester City. In
Manchester City once again one of those teams a flush
with a lot of money. So I'm not counting the
epl out completely. I just think that PSG seems to
be the front runner right now, all right. For those
people like me, it's more obviously the American sports give

(02:00:20):
me like, who is Messy? Who's the comp he is?
I don't want to call him. I feel like a
close comp is Lebron. But at the same time it's
complicated because he has that contemporary with Ronaldo playing at
the same time. He's a cross I would say of

(02:00:41):
like Lebron with the m j arguments, because he's got
a great in his past in um, oh man, why
am I blank you on his name? The other great
uh Maradona, who just recently passed from us. So he's
got the m jane his past. But also there's shades
of like Marino versus Montana between him and Christiano Ronaldo,

(02:01:04):
two guys great but playing at the same time together
and there's arguments always back and forth on who is better.
And MESSI I think has established himself as that great
in both regards. I I think he is. It goes
back and forth all the time. But I think this
Copa win, he just you know, Argentina just won Copa America.

(02:01:27):
I think that cements him right now in the lead
above Ronaldo right now, and depending on where he lands,
he could see about as much success as Ronaldo on
the club level. Both Ronaldo and now Messi are leaving
Spanish Lalliga. You know, Ronaldo ended up with the Italian
club Juventus, and Ronald and Messi. We have to see

(02:01:48):
where he goes. He could go to it. He could
still land in Italy. Inter Milan doesn't have a lot
of money. But last I saw they were like plus
three three three on the odds to land him, which
is second lowest sides behind Manchester City at plus two
seventy five. And so yeah, there's something that's so wild man,
like a player of his ILK that's the different, like

(02:02:11):
to just free eight. And I mean, I guess it's
it's like it's like Lebron Barcelona. He shouldn't even be available.
Barcelona just really messed up the financial situation. I don't
know all the details, but like he's not supposed to
be available, Suddenly he's available and the fortunes of the
world could change. That's why all right, Well, I want
to talk for the world of football. That's come up next.

(02:02:33):
Richard is in Kentucky, Bobby's in l A, Nikki's in Philly,
frank Virginia, Reverend Charles and Oregon, you guys will be next.
I can't wait to talk to you guys. Fellas. Fox

s R to listen live. Well, a good, good, good morning,
Happy Saturday to all across the nation. We appreciate it.
We're the Fellas. I'm Anthony Gargano right here every Saturday
on Fox Sports Radio. Hope You're Saturday morning is a
good one. It's August the seventh. You know that means
means the first preseason games Thursday night across the NFL.

(02:03:23):
We got real football, and we're doing a little kind
of fun thing and as we look forward to that,
and that is football now. And then when you first
saw it the NFL you show your team, described that
moment to me, then your journey as an NFL fan
until now. So it's kind of what we're doing. By

(02:03:46):
the way, Vikings fans. Uh. Justin Jefferson suffered a separated shoulder. Um,
so it's not as bad as feared. So that's actually
a good thing. It's his best possible as you can imagine,
according to I and Rappaport, So you can get a

(02:04:09):
little bit of a cyber leaf there with Justin Jefferson,
who's so important to that franchise. Uh, gold medal, big
time in the NBA. K D comes up strong. We
lose his Ilo told you in Baseball Japan, Home Country wins.
But you know I means scraps scrap guys, So what

(02:04:32):
does it really mean? Anyway, Let's come back to our
friends because I'm loving the conversation this morning. Richard is
in Kentucky. Good morning, Richard, how are you brother? Hey?
How's it going? Guys? How's everything? Hey? It's one great Uh.
First of all, uh, first time caller. I taught you,

(02:04:53):
I think maybe a year ago, and man, I just
love your vibe. Man, you guys are laid back. Um
so I became up an instant fan. But man so
so nineteen seventy two, I'm twelve years old. We live
in um, western Tennessee, a little place called Dark County,

(02:05:18):
Neuber in Tennessee. My dad, um, he used to uh,
he used to watch money night football and since it's
some money now, you got schooled the next day. So
I had to go to bed after the highlights, I
would look forward to how would coach sell, you know,
doing all the slow motion man, and and everything was

(02:05:41):
in slow motion in the background. You have the you
have the guy you know hunting and you know. And
I found out later that that was the song what
do you Do with a Drunken Sailor? I mean, I
was like, I remember that song something kind of like, uh,
but I never forget. It was a Monday night game

(02:06:02):
and the Chiefs played the Cowboys. And in the in
the book you got Dandy Dunn merried as you know,
he turned out the lights of parties over that old
deal and and UH number eighty nine Oldiest Taylor was
the whiteout for the UH for the Chiefs, and and

(02:06:23):
the Cowboys were supposed to win that game, the chief
with them thirty five and nothing that game, man. And
I was like, and so fast forward. I became a fan.
And I'm a I'm a product of the seventies. I
graduated Springing seventy eight, so I was all about the Steelers.

(02:06:43):
But I just love football, So I go on and
I played high school football at a high school all
American when University Kentucky and played football. Did you that's awesome? Yeah? Yeah.
So my dad unfortunately passed away and uh nineteen seventy six,
who was only forty seven years old, so he never
he never saw me play college ball in high school. Man, Man,

(02:07:07):
those memories, you know. I remember sitting up and just
you know, I could not wait for like the highlights.
Yeah that's all you got back then. It man. It
was no Sports Center, right, and none of that stuff.
All the studio shows. Oh my god, hey, Richie, you
love this. Right. So I got a little I have
two little boys. I got eleven year old Anthony and

(02:07:30):
uh so Anthony's playing football the first time. He's a
pretty big kid, and the first this week he put
the pads on for the first time. Richard. I was like,
I'm proud, but I was peacock man, that smell pad
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, I love I loved this. Uh

(02:07:53):
that you and your producer got together to put this
little piece together. I'm sitting there, man, And that course
guy that called back some almost an hour ago about
walking in seeing Jim Thornton. Yeah, I was like, I
was right there, man, But it was awesome, dude, I
was right there. So I've enjoying all of it. I'm

(02:08:13):
so happy. Thanks. Let's have a great week and be
safe man, great stuff. Thank you man. I appreciate that. Yeah,
that's awesome. Yeah, we we had a we have. All
the callers have been tremendous. I was, in fact, I listen,
I'm very transparent, all right, Like I'm I believe you
gotta be real, right, like the whole fake me out

(02:08:37):
sports radio dude. You know, let me argue for the
sake of arguing. I just think it's a bunch of nonsense, right.
So I said, when I saw you, Chris Doorn the
air the when we were off the air during the break,
I said, what whish Man strong? Did I say that? Nikki? Absolutely,
they've been strong, and we were asking why they've been

(02:08:58):
so strong, and I said, you know, when you have
a topic like this, and if you notice, a lot
of the callers have talked about how the first a
mainerage just to football is when they were kids and
you know, their dad taking them somewhere or going to
a game in their fourteen with their with their dad
and his friends. You know, there's something about childhood memories,
especially they were tied the football, that really bring out

(02:09:21):
the inner life. That's why the culture piece of it
is so short. A few weeks a few weeks back
we were doing the food with it and the cultural
piece of it. But this is now. You're right about it.
But here's the thing, though. People have been great today,
but they've also been very detailed in their phone calls,
and they've been really good storytellers. And listen. You know

(02:09:45):
there's a rule in radio like where you gotta be quick, quick, quick, quick,
and I'm I believe in that unless it's really incredible content,
and I think that's what people are. Their storytelling has been.
I give you I'm a storyteller, so I appreciate that.
I want to go to Bobby in l A good morning, Bobby.
How are you are? You're doing? What's going on? Bob Well?

(02:10:09):
I grew up in Washington, d c Um. I was
six years old. I was all my grandparents house and
were Watson NFC Championship Dallas at Washington, Bill Kilmore versus
Roger star back, George Allen versus Tom Landry, and Watson
beat the hell out out of three. Falling in love

(02:10:32):
with football. But nothing was more greater when Joe gets
came along, When Joe Gibbs came along. From one to
those who were the happiest greatest years of my life
was like to win all those Super Bowls and quarterbacks
and oh my god, Joe Tossard is my favorite football player.

(02:10:55):
I have his dirthy. It wasn't just going to the
preseason games. I went to the regular season games my
senior year in high school and with the three of
their games, so they beat the Giants, they beat the Cowboys,
and they wanted to visit against the Cardinals. And I
was at all three of those football games, and those
are all memorable football games. Now remember Super Bowl twenty
two when Doug Williams took all that racism Ricky Sanders

(02:11:19):
for that seven yard touchdown path led to the on
flot Super Bowl UM two And those are the years
from me with Gibbs and I think Rivera has many
I agree with you. I know, I think you're right.
I think Rivera. First of all, he's a great coach.
I know Ronnie from when he was in Philly and

(02:11:41):
he's a terrific coach. But I'm with you. Look at
their Their defensive front is scary. Man. The front seven
is really good. And I like their skill guys too. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
this is my favorite time of the year. I'm a veteran.
I'll be fifty five and August sixteen. This is my
favorite time time of the year. Hey mane facts for

(02:12:02):
your service by appreciated. Brother. You enjoy this thing, man,
because it is and especially when your team is kills
your little excitement, there's some hope surrounding your squad. That's awesome.
We appreciated, Bobby. Let me go to Nikki Nikki in Philly.
What's going on, my brother? Good morning Anthony and the

(02:12:25):
Fox Morning crew. How you guys doing. What's going on
over there over here? Yeah, listen those stories of fabul
Listen that County guy, he just he just he pit
to my coffee. I was doing a great I like you.
And when he said fond ball and he covered it well,
so I won't even get into it. That was depressing. Actually,

(02:12:47):
how was it? Kid? About his age? But so my
day came here in fifty six fump Italy on but
really off the boat like he literally took three boat
ride across the ocean. And I was born in sixty nine,
so and he ali spoke that much English and I
can't remember exactly when it was, but I would just
sit there next to him and he would have the

(02:13:09):
Eagles game on Sunday, in the Phillies game on that
or like, he didn't matter of the season of the team.
He just kind of knew living in the Philipphia area
that these are the four teams Wires, Phillies, Sixtures, Eagles.
And what made he gravitate towards the American sports because

(02:13:30):
you obviously he's sure he's a soccer fan, right, Yeah,
clutely he was. He was a soccer Formula one fan.
But but you know here you couldn't get back in
the seventies, you couldn't get any of that. But coming
from you know, because we're a melting pot, coming from
a culture of Europe, he understood that he's part of
this culture in his community. So it was I think

(02:13:52):
fully related. It was he knew that to be part
of the culture he was living in was to be
to follow the Phillies, Wire, Eagle. Yeah, and to this day,
I love it, uh, you know because like you said,
whether you win or lose, You've said this before in
the pass and I don't I don't want to send
anybody say you're Dallas fan in Cincinnati and they went

(02:14:13):
a Super Bowl, Like who do you go out and
celebrate like you were having to kill on a corner
in Philadelphia with hundreds of thousands of people. Like what
do you do with the Dallas stand or a Cincinnati
fan in Dallas if they win a Super Bowl? You're
sitting there by yourself. But anyway, I just remember my dad.
I was a kid who drugged me to drag. Now
so happy, Like Sunday morning, we went to church and

(02:14:35):
then my dad said, we're going to the Eagles game
the Vetternan Stadium. To me that I was like the
Philadelphia Coliseum. It was so big, a round and huge
walking into that stadium, but it was so cold that
he had the little flask and yeah, exactly, and all
I remember the low scoring game. It was freezing. Nobody

(02:14:57):
Eagles didn't score, it was there had zero quite that
three points a half time. So so my dad said,
let's let's leave or elite two minutes early and get
to the concourse or warm up, get some hot chocolate.
And he said, well we'll come out a few minutes late.
Well we're still. We're there having coffee and some food
or hot chocs. I remember, And next year to Colosseum,

(02:15:18):
just vibrates and start. People are yelling and screaming and changing.
We run off the concourse and we look out and
somebody ran to kick off back. But they lose that day.
But that was the only touchdown of the game and
we missed it. But I remember that day that my
dad after mans goes our cakes on, he's wrapping the

(02:15:38):
up and clothes. It was so close, coldly that we're
going to the Eagles game. And this day, I still
remember that. You know, I don't have my father, but
I remember that and I love him for that. So Nikki,
that's beautiful, brother, God bless man, you too, buddy, That's beautiful. Listen.
That's all part of it. It's what we're you know,
talking about this stuff again. And we uh have had

(02:16:02):
a lot of great just great calls. And I think
what is the common denominator is the fact that it
sports and particularly football is our companion. It is dark companion,
you know, and if you're eighteen or set is seventy eight,

(02:16:25):
it doesn't matter. It rides with us and it stays
with us. It's a companion and it never stops, right,
there's always a game. And that's you know, in fact
that we got a season. Come on Thursday, first preseason
games is a gift. We'll come back and here's the

(02:16:45):
well attack the betting angle with our man Brad Feinberg. Uh,
and then we'll get back to your calls. So stay
with us. Where the fellas right here on Fox Sports,
do you fellas? Good morning, Good morning on a Saturday

(02:17:06):
in August, training camp, baby, preseason all right, try to
take a look at our sports Saturday in our weekend
from a betting standpoint. In joining us, the great betting
analyst Brad Finberg joins us, and you can follow Brad

(02:17:27):
on Twitter at Brad's Bets, Best Bets, How's it? What
is it again? Brads Bets Exactly Brad's Best Bets Baby,
And you can also find Brad's incredible podcast too, Yes, exactly, Yeah,
the Pizza Bigod Podcast. Great stuff we do each week

(02:17:50):
and getting winners to people and get good information every
went out every week every day. That's beautiful. And you
don't sell anything all you don't people. Yeah, that's it,
And I love it. And you spend your life analyzing
the numbers and the games and you love it and
you're great at it. My friend, so well, I appreciate

(02:18:12):
the plame words. Well, it's true, that's true. You had
I will be your witness. You were all over France.
He thought the USA would win, but France would get
inside the generous number. Yeah, look, it was kind of
it was a tough game that you know, you'll give
us a credit after the first loss. Two fans coming
back to win the gold medal, you know, great for them.

(02:18:32):
But yeah, I thought it would be a tough game
and it was. And got a little harry there at
the end when it got cut to three. But it
was glad to see us a get the job done.
Joyant was just some desional he was. He was amazing
man and God bless him, and he was fantastic. I
use your question, what happened to Damian Loward in these Olympics.

(02:18:53):
Yeah he was not great. Now apparently he's got an
abdominal thing. Okay, maybe that's what it was. He's going
to talk. Yeah, he Dame Dame Dollar was himself, you know,
but but he's a great player and bankful for USA.
Tatum really stepped up, I thought, became that secondary scorer
for the second He was clear. I was surprised that Booker,

(02:19:17):
who was one of my all parting favorites didn't really
show much either. Yeah, no, I agree. Hey, we all
morning we've been talking about football, and so we're gonna
get to the preseason and then we'll get into some
futures in a little bit. But I know you're you
got some baseball games today, so I know you're excited.
Dodgers and Angels. How about the Dodgers last night? Losing again?

(02:19:42):
Late man, the bullpen has been a tough thing for
the Dodgers, you know, any I'm gonna look to come
back with the Dodgers tonight. You know, laying the run
lays has been absolutely sensational all year. If we last
eight names and only allowed two runs thirteen and three
for the season three point four, you r a over

(02:20:03):
a strikeout meeting. He's facing Haimi Barria, who was a
below average pitcher. Uh and this year Barria and meaning
is only is strikeouts. That does not going well against
a dominant Dodgers lineup. I expect um Dodgers to absolutely
score a lot of runs tonight against a picture like Bria.
I'm gonna lay a run and a half one in

(02:20:24):
a power thirty five. Um, I'm very nervous. I will
not lay three to one in a in a baseball game,
just because the variance of the sport of baseball upsets
to happen. But if the Dodgers went by run one run,
I'll take my medicine. But I think the Dodgers won
this one by two runs and one. I'm pretty confident
in laying a minus a run and a half of
mine one five. I think it's a good bet for
the doctors tonight. Yeah, I'm with you. I'm with you

(02:20:47):
allt on that one. Hey, uh do some great races.
We were talking about this and that, and a l
East is a beast because you got the Jays and
the Yankees, who are Sizziland's Tampa win it's again. Last
night Red Sox of course lose to the to the
Jay's and so Yankees added again they come back last

(02:21:11):
night twice and beat the Mariners. Flexing he need tonight
today it's a day game. Who do you like? Yankees
and Mariners? Well, you know, the Yankees have just been
absolutely on fire. They've been them in the Blue Jays
it seems, I think in the last like eleven games.
Me and you how to talk about these two teams,
and you were like, you love the Yankees to be

(02:21:31):
the team from this point on. I think they're like
nine and one or something like that, and I believe
the Blue Jays are like nine and ones. The both
teams have been absolutely on fire. But I'm actually gonna
fade the Yankees nine Anthony, and look, I'm gonna take
Chris Flexen. He has actually been a top three most
profitable starter if you've been on him, and all the
start this year, he's been in the top three if

(02:21:52):
you were betting on him. Okay, seven of the last
nine games he's allowed two runs or less, so he's
been very consistent. On top of it, he he's been
aroundic all year. Five point three. Oh e r A.
We are getting such a big place here because of
the names of the Jerseys, right we're seeing Yankees versus Mariners,
but reality the Mariners actually having a very good year.

(02:22:12):
Flex within the far better picture all year. I took
flex and plus of dollars seventy in the five inning
line um because again, the longer the game goes clearly
does favor uh the Yankees having a much better lineup.
But for five innings, I think flexing can easily hang
here and actually goes far to say, I think flexing
has closet. You want to give me plus seventy. I

(02:22:33):
think it's a really nice bet. Yeah. I like your
strategy too of going uh five innings because they like
the Yankee teams. It's like they're Dracula, right, Yeah, you
know they're gonna come like they came back twice last
night and you could totally see it where they make
Hay against the Mariner's bullpen. So I think that's really

(02:22:54):
smart and I think that's a that's a great way
to bet it. How about I'm curious what's your take
on Astros and Twins today because this is another one
day and night game tonight pin Ada for the Twins
against Louis Carcia for the Strows. Interesting this I lost.

(02:23:15):
I lost last night taking Houston with the run mine
and the Twins upset them in a in the next
training affair, I'm actually going to come back surprisingly with
the Twins again tonight. Afy look pined I took plus
five on the five inning line over Luis Garcia. I
took plus a pro. I mean he's you know, he's
not a great starter, but the Native his last ten starts,

(02:23:36):
he's allowed three runs or less. He's a sub four
e R, a respectable one to whip, and Luis Garcia
has had a really good rookie season, but I think
he may be hitting the rookie wall. He's about ten
runs his last night innings as Eira has gone from
the low twos all the way up to three fifty
now um Now, Again, the Astros are clearly the most
likely winner of this, but I thought taking plus was

(02:23:59):
too high. I first me close to way the plus
one fifty area, so I'm gonna take the medium a
five inning line. Same reasoning again Alonger. This game goes
clearly favorite Houston, as they have a much better bullpen,
way better on the line up for five innings. I
think that Twins can hang and I'll take plus. Yeah,
I like that. I'm it's that's smart for five innings

(02:24:22):
because again, you don't want to test that. That ask
shows a lot up is a bear man. And then
and I just want to explain that way out there
if you do ask me, do I think I'm going
to win that bet? No? I don't, but it's it's
an odds perspective. If I think that two out of
five times, I win it, and I'm getting Plus I'm
getting a good return on my investment by making those debts,

(02:24:44):
even though I'm probably going to lose it. Yeah, that
makes perfect sense. Now. Now I listen at times because
those are games you give your best chance to gain
a profit, a big profit like that. Smart. I brat,
sit down, Sit sit sight because I want to get
into some football. Uh. We got exhibition games and some futures,

(02:25:05):
but first we got the Lord of trendings, the one
the only I got. You get a gold, You get
a gold. You get a gold. Good morning, Anthony, Golden morning. Boy,
aren't you a negative nelly on that? Well they did
get a silver. Technically, everybody else though, getting gold. Team

(02:25:28):
USA winning gold in track and field in both the
men's four by four hundred meter relay as well as
in the women's four by four hundred meter relay. The
quartet including Alison Felix, who won her eleventh career Olympic medal,
passing Carl Lewis for the most ever by an American
track and field athlete in the gold medal game. In baseball,
though Team USA indeed came up short, losing to the

(02:25:50):
host country to Japan two to nothing. But in men's basketball,
Team USA what it's fourth straight gold medal with an
eight seven eighty two victory over Rance, led by Kevin
Durant's twenty nine points. In women's water polo, Team USA
want its third straight gold medal, defeating Spain fourteen to five.
American Nelly Korda winning the gold medal in women's golf

(02:26:12):
in the NFL this morning, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson
has returned to the practice field for the first time
since he tested positive for COVID back on July. In
Major League Baseball on Friday night, the Angels defeated the
Dodgers in ten innings, four to three. The Dodgers have
lost eleven straight extra inning games, one off the major
league record, and Starling Marte had a three run game

(02:26:35):
winning home run for the Oakland A's and the bottom
of the eleventh inning to defeat the Texas Rangers four
to one. Finally, time for our jam Master jam of
the weekend. It was an uninspired jam Master last week
when Anthony Rizzo at his first home run as a Yankee.
Let's take you back to this Wednesday against the Orioles
and a chance for redemption with Rizzo once again at

(02:26:56):
the plate. Five balls, a right set of field, and
that ball is God and the bullpend at the day
Rizzo bangs run into the Yankee bullpen. Well, you know
what they say, Nobody beats the Riz. You called it.

(02:27:22):
He took our advice. Finally last week, Ilo called it,
nobody beats the Riz. He's obviously a devoted listener. You
know what my other favorite part of that was it
was the very subtle you know what they say. It
was like he was trying to be subtle, but it
was just not subtle at all. You know what they say.

(02:27:44):
You know what I says, nobody beats the Riz. Check
better being the mail. What can we say? That's fantastic?
I like it? All right, great stuff, Hilo. Ah, let's
get it back to some football. We love of our football,
and so we'll take a look at it from a
betting analyst standpoint. Brad Feinberg with us. You can check

(02:28:07):
them out on Twitter at Brad's Best Bets on Twitter,
and uh check out all his picks in this podcast
and everything else. Does great work. All right, brother, Let's
start off with the preseason Thursday, all the games. Curious,
is there a way that you're going to attack this preseason? Yeah, Anthony,

(02:28:30):
Look what I love to do is it's I love
doing a lot of the totals, but I look at
the quarterback rotation for these teams, not just who's going
to start, but who's gonna play all the time. Okay,
because that is the key. Do you have a bad
quarterback rotation, obviously you're looking at bet the owners in
the game. If you love a good, solid quarterback rotation,

(02:28:51):
you're looking at maybe bet the overs because you're always
gonna have a decent quarterback in here. And I'll give
you an example in Thursday's game between Washington UH in
New England. You know, I bet over thirty three and
a half. It smell to thirty four and a half,
which I still like it. I'm still releasing it. It
over thirty four and a half, as I think worth.
Awhile play for everyone out there. And here's why. Let's
look at the Patriots, Anthony forgetting um Cam Newton. I

(02:29:14):
don't expect Cam Newton to necessarily play in this one.
I'm not expecting to play at all, but if I do,
it's a bonus. But if he doesn't, we have Mac Jones,
who I think will be terrific. You know, the guy
is obviously in their first round pick lead quarterback at Alabama.
I expect him to perform well. And the Patriots the
other two quarterbacks that they have Jared Stenning, who was

(02:29:34):
a guy they were really counting on to be their
starting quarterback okay before they signed Cam Newton. And Brian
he's been around forever, who's a very very decent veteran quarterback. Again,
he's a he's a professional, and that's all you're looking
for in these things as opposed to overmatch undrafted rookie
who can't you leave the team at all down the field.
And then Washington Anthony. Again, I'm not expectancy Ryan Fitzpatrick,

(02:29:57):
but we saw Tera Heineke last year who they gave
a pretty nice contract to in the all season, who
played terrific in that playoff game. I'm sure they're gonna
be looking to see him to see if he can
get that number two job. Or Kyle Allen. And Kyle Allen,
you know, he played for coach Rivera in Caroline, I
who was seventeen touchdowns two years ago and He's been
a legitimate serviceable quarterbacks in the NFL as well. So

(02:30:21):
I like the quarterback rotation in this scheme. Thirty four
and a half I think is too low considering that,
I actually think the quarterback blow will be quite respectable. Yeah,
and I think it's a great way to look at it,
because when you've got guys that can actually move the ball,
you'll you'll see it. I mean. The reason why, I

(02:30:41):
think it's almost an overreaction to all the unders. You know,
all right, let's go through the week one lines. So
I add with me the week one lines in the NFL,
and I want you to forecast for value. Okay, So

(02:31:02):
I'll run through the games. You tell me stop when
you hear something you like. Deal, you got it, Tampa Champs.
Mine is six against the Cowboys. I mean in the
opener on Thursday September the nine you got you like Dallas? Right, No,

(02:31:25):
I I think that's the right number. Actually, that was
not one of the games I'm gonna play. I do.
I do not like that game. I think that game
is more or less right now at the right number. Um,
that is not a game that I did. That was
not one of my games. I like, I think that's
the right number. I think it's you know, six, six
and a half. I think that's right in mine with
my with my power ratings. That's gonna be a no

(02:31:47):
play for me, all right, So let's keep it going.
The Steelers and the Bills. The Bills six and a half. Yeah,
anthy this is And I do like, I really like
the Bills here laying six and a half. And I'm
going to tell you this line is going to I
don't want to say one pretty close to my head

(02:32:09):
to warn present got to close at seven, maybe even
seven and a half. This is a game right now.
For everyone listening, we always talk about value and getting
closing line value. Make a bet on the Buffalo Bills
right now main six and a half. This line is
definitely too short. The line is going to close either
seven or seven and a half. Pittsburgh. The team has
a lot of uncertainty Emphony, Big Ben getting older, and

(02:32:31):
an offensive line that lost their best player that has
a lot of question marks even before they lost their
best lineman. And um, I think this is a game
Buffalo should have been at least a seven. I actually
had a million seven and a half of my ratings
and that one point difference considering how many games land
on seven huge heads, huge value in my opinion for
the Buffalo side. Alright, So, uh, Falcon's three and a

(02:32:56):
half over Philadelphia. Yeah, I mean this is my I
do like. I do like the Atlanta side. Philadelphia, Man,
I think it's gonna be a long year for for
the Eagles. Uh. Just don't think it's gonna be an
easy task for this team to have a good season. Uh.
And I think that Atlanta was actually a bad I

(02:33:18):
mean a good bad team, if that makes sense. Last year.
They lost a lot of close games. Uh. And I
know they lost Jones, but to me, Kyle Pitts is
going to be one of those freak dominant players. Uh.
And I think that this line was too short. I
actually made this line in my power ratings five and
a half, which is two points off this three and
a half point number. I do not think this line

(02:33:40):
will go down. And I don't think you're gonna get
a three pout. Honestly, be huge if you can grab
a three. But I actually like the Falcons here, and
I think that they actually win this one by at
least to touch them. Yeah, I I agree with you.
I think it's gonna be tough. There's a great game
Washington and the Chargers. Washington's at one point favorite. To me,
it's too close to Yeah, that was that was right

(02:34:01):
on my numbers. The lot at the Niners seven a
half over Detroit. I probably like the Niners. I would
probably lay that because I think Detroit it's going to
be the Yeah, I get like, yeah, I liked that
under forty five and a half in Jacksonville against Houston.

(02:34:25):
Reason being I I clearly do not expect the Shawn
Watson to play week one. If I'm wrong on that,
I'll well, I'll look to get out of the bed.
But uh, I think, you know, Urban Meyer's first game,
Trevor Lawrence's first game, don't I expect, you know, potentially
a lot of runs, not not a necessarily progressive game
for Trevor Lawrence's first game out there, and with Tyrod

(02:34:47):
Twar to me, is just a very uh middling quarterback
to put up polite. Um, I think that line will
close closer to forty four. So I did that under
forty five and a half. And the Texans against the
Jaguars also got the Jaguars minus two and a half.
I think that mine will go up to at least three.
Did you did you look at all? By the way,

(02:35:07):
I agree with you. Um do you look at Seattle
at all? With Wentz not healthy and probably won't play
that game? Yeah, well that's the if. If Carson Wentz
does does not play in that game, I we'll have
a strong lean uh and we'll like. But that game

(02:35:28):
got taken down in a lot of places, Anthony, because
the uncertainty on wins. The line actually when Winz was
an ALM. This is one advice I'll give everyone out there.
When it was announced Carson Wentz was hurt, the line
in that game was indian Apolis minus two and a half.
I bet Seattle plus two and a half immediately when
I saw Wins was injured and the line switched five
points to Seattle plus two and a half. Yeah, I

(02:35:53):
got Seattle plus two and a half. But that was
just me grabbing a rogue number as soon as I
heard that Wentz was hurt. And if you if you
have the usual, Anthony, maybe like two to five minutes
to beat the sports books some situations like that, I
bet the Colts under ten wins. I bet the Colts
not to make the playoffs. Um I bet the Titans
to win the division. There's a lot of things that

(02:36:14):
you can do if you get news like that and
you have a few minutes to do it and and
then boom, it's gone. You know what, that's you your
pounds like a cat look at you and he moves.
In the NBA where you're looking at, you know, futures wise,
you know, and you look obviously the most too, most

(02:36:34):
likely winners. You know, there are the Nets who you know,
got it. I thought I had nice offseason. I loved
signing Patty Mills on the Lakers. Obviously had the perky,
dynamic offseason as well. But Anty, I'm never looking to
take a team uh in a futures market getting such
short odds we saw this year. Um I thought the
Nets were the clear best team, but they got injuries

(02:36:57):
to two the three best players and they lose a
heartbreaking seven game series from Milwaukee. But those things happen.
So I'm not looking at the back the next a team.
I'm still looking at Anthony and there's still twenty to
one Philadelphia, depending what they do with Ben Simmons. Um
if they trade Ben Simmons and are able to get
a really good player for him at twenty one with

(02:37:19):
the players that they've had, and I did like even
like getting Georgia's nang as A as a as a
reserve player Drummond. They replaced with the White Howard, and
I think that's a team. They basically brought everyone back.
If they're able to make a good Ben Simmons trade
at twenty one odds, that the team I have my
eye on. Yeah, listen, if they get Lillard there to

(02:37:43):
me and then the Rods will crash. That's a perfect
example of me. If you hear rumors and you hear
things that throw it off the maybe acquiring Damian Lillard,
their odds will crash. They'll go from twenty to one
to like seven. Yeah, I can always see that. Well, Brad,
what do you got on tap for this weekend? Well,
I mean I'm down in Market, New Jersey. My friend

(02:38:04):
it said's always my tuckle ball on my tennis and
pickle ball on the beach. You gotta you gotta have
fun and play your pickleball. You listen to my brother.
You you want good luck in your match? Alright, buddy,
Here he is Brad Feinberg checking in our betting analysts

(02:38:27):
give you some winners and some strategy. So over in
the Washington and the Washington preseason game. That looks pretty
good in Washington, England to check that out, and then
all the other opinions for week one. He's right, you
can grab some great bargains if you get in there now,
because those lines are going to move. That's for damn short.

(02:38:47):
All right, we'll come back, we'll talk, try to sneak
in some people and talk to you guys as. Uh.

(02:39:54):
learn today from all these great stories from all of
our friends. Well, we've learned that plenty of people have
plenty of stories. Mostly it's a lot of cowboys stories.
It seems like we're getting here, you think, so. Yeah, yeah,
I've heard about like, I feel like three cowboys stories.
I thought they would rankle you at some point here. Now,

(02:40:16):
well I look at it differently. Today. Today's it's celebration.
So to me, you know, it's not about rivalry, it's
about celebrated. We're brothers in celebration. There is no two,
there is no no, you know, rivalry. Today we're all
on the same boat. We can't wait for it. That's
the beauty of it. Let's let's think in frank who's

(02:40:38):
in Virginia, frank good morning, good morning, good morning, Thank
you for taking a call. What's going on, Frankie. Yeah, Well,
but my introduction to the NFL started in the mid
fifties with the Baltimore Colts with the late great Johnny
United as quarterback and uh Lennymore and Elodia in the

(02:40:59):
backfield and Ray Berry and Jim Muscha on line. But
what was really really uh a group of characters but
that defensive line with Oriel Braceley on one end, and
uh Donovan and Bill George and the late great Big

(02:41:20):
Daddy Lipscombe on the town and who used to yeah,
he used to run down uh those halfbacks in the day.
And of course on the other end was Geno Marketti. Wow,
yeah back in the day, boy. And and that was
my team in until they stuck out of town. And

(02:41:41):
I've been riding with the Philadelphia Eagles ever since. And
that that started with Ron Jaworski and uh Randall, Wade Cunningham,
mystics like, you know what, you know, what's amazing. He
does not let me ansk you this because he doesn't
get enough love in my eyes as the ultimate weapon. Right,

(02:42:02):
Randall was the initial quarterback who pour a lot of
the brunt as being the guy who was mobile, not
to mention African American and all that he had deal with.
But he he doesn't get enough credit for where today's
game is because he would have been the star today.
He would have been like the show. DeShawn Watson reminded

(02:42:22):
me a lot of Ram mcconningham. Yeah, yeah, that was
a great man, and uh, I really enjoyed those going
to a veteran stadium and when it was cold, it
was it was like sitting on a block of ice
in that place. I grew up around a corner from
the horrible Frankie. Let me tell you something. First of all,

(02:42:43):
we got a great voice, but you're the man, buddy.
Have a great, great week. Thank you for checking in
all of our callers. I want to thank you. It's
been a lot of fun. Yeah. That place was those
old stadiums like Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, Riverfront, three Rivers. I
remember doing Steeler game. It was this freezing it was.

(02:43:05):
It was cold cement Ah. Man, it was nasty, that
nasty cold. Wow, it was great football. Pretty soon it's
going to be here. Pretty soon, it's going to turn
the weather and then you know, it's kind of our
happy place, is it not. As we? Uh? We we

(02:43:25):
enjoy our first foray into the preseason. For the rest
of us besides Pittsburgh and Dallas. Enjoyed everybody. Thanks for
hanging has always. Have a great week. We love you.
We'll see you next week. Fellows her out
