Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listen to the Fox Sports all right, that's right
Martin Wash and Kelvin Washington on Fox Sports Sunday. Kelvin Man,
good to be here with you in studio today. It
is man. First of all, when the boss Man sent
me to text, he said it was with you. I said, wait,
you're gonna let us get on. That's what I mean.
Do you know what you're about to do? And you
know what the thing is. So I've been on here
(00:22):
most of the time. I spend my time with Rob
Parker and christ couple right right, you know, one one
in the pew, one and one on the pole according
to that open right. And so when he texted me,
he had me filling them with a couple of different guys.
I filled in with a filling with Aaron Torres on Friday.
And then he said, you know, Kelvin Washington, you're like night.
(00:43):
They can't be to Kelvin Washington's in l A right now.
I can't be my daddy. It's Kelvin that we ain't
got the same same mama. We had the same first name,
biddle name, different last name. I think Mama knew things
weren't gonna be all great. Between them. I think she knew,
So give mama some credit. There. Great to be on
with you, man, It's been a minute uh and a
lot of life events going on. You know what I'm saying.
If you need a kid, let me know I got three. Congratulations,
(01:05):
Thank you. I appreciate that. So if you need if
you need a loan for a week, bo bo, you
need a condom? Did I mention that they were the
same woman and I'm married? Let me also throw that
in there. But I will say this, I've been out
the last few days with my little one. She's beautiful,
little baby. Shout to baby carries. You got you got
(01:26):
nieces and nephews, right, don't you at least no, no no something?
Don't you got something that I got? I have a
younger sister and that's about it. Got some cousins, some
cousins well, but no you need them. Listen, I'm gonna
say this that will get into what we gotta get into.
When you're out with a baby, baby, bro b boy,
you got kids, or at least a kid, I can't
rebe you got one, am I Lyne. When you're out
(01:47):
with the baby, there is nothing more you maybe a
Lamborghini in the baby are tied as far I'm serious.
I heard about dogs. I know dogs are supposed to
be thinking to the dog park, you walk your dog
and then you're in good. But if I don't want
to take care of the kids, nothing like a baby, man,
you said, I'm trying to tell him, nothing like a baby. Listen.
(02:07):
I will be with my wife and women will be like,
oh my god. I mean they can't because it's in there.
It's a nate, It's in their nature. They cannot ignore
the beautifulness of the baby. And you holding hands or
holding the babies to Google, They're like, oh my god,
oh my god, they can't ignore it. Listen, I'm just
trying to tell y'all, and don't act like I just
remember the moment when I told you it. Just text me, Dub,
(02:27):
you were right. Now, you know what this bubbo, you
know what this is. This is just kelvin Washington. Let
us all know that he doesn't just have a face
for radio. He's on TV as well. He's a good
looking fellow. That's what that is. You know the rest
of us loves you know. They took us behind the microphones,
but they don't know. Now, you know, what I've been
out with you? Okay, all right, now, don't get carried away.
I didn't been out with you. I didn't mean your
birthday parties with him? Minute where were at Miami? Out
(02:48):
there in n A b J. I hadn't been out
with you. Um. But man, I want to get this
started because interesting as we're sitting here watching these games
and kind of having these conversations about these games games,
it's when it comes to quarterback, it's they usually say,
if you got if you don't have one, If you
got two quarterbacks, you don't have one. If you don't
have a starting quarterball you have two quarterbacks, you do.
(03:11):
But can there be a situation where you actually do
have to dynamic? For instance, obviously, if you go back
to the eighties and you're sitting there with Joe Montana
and and uh, of course Steve Steve, yes, yes, Steve Young.
If you're looking at some other situations where you had
a guy starting, a guy sitting the bed, wins like
Brett Farvan, Aaron Rodgers and so on and so forth.
(03:31):
So is that what's happening in San Francisco? What side
do you lean on? Where they hey, they're in a
great situation. You got a young guy, Trey Land who
looks like a stud right looks. We saw him to
day running for a touchdown strong arm kind of got
that look of oh, he has the potential to be
the guy. Or Jimmy G who has does nothing but win,
not a spectacular fashion, but does nothing but when that
there's seventy of his games, got to to a super Bowl,
(03:53):
was you know, looked all right in that super Bowl too.
At the end of the day, having to Kevin two
quarterbacks like this is like having two girl friends. It's
not gonna work out for the long term. It ain't
gonna work that. It's not gonna work out for the
long term. Right. You might be able to get through
a season or two, but when val they come around,
you're gonna have to You're going to you can't be
in two places at once and only one quarterback is
going to be playing quarterback at one time. We saw
(04:15):
this last couple of years in New Orleans where they
were trying their best to make Taysom Hill play quarterback
as well. It's not happening, right. So the thing about
Jimmy G though he's either capable quarterback, sure, he's gotten
to a super Bowl. He's not necessarily my favorite cup
of tea. But if you if you can convince yourself
that you can win a super Bowl with him, I can.
I can understand it. He's not gonna stay healthy. He's
(04:35):
not gonna stay healthy. If you look at the game today,
he's running, he's taking on the linebacker with the goal
line in the preseason. Baby boy, this game don't count.
I don't. I don't know if he got the memo
that this was preseason right, so so, and then think
about the two years ago when he went out with
the knee. He's taking on linebacker's head up like like
he's some type of running back and he's just not.
And so I think at the end of the day,
(04:58):
Jimmy g is gonna be the day one started this team.
Even though Kyle Shanahan is seeming to have so much
fun with everything right like he's he's he's just he's
one of these people that kind of understand that everybody's
gonna run with everything that he says, and so he'll
say whatever he wants to be Like I honestly I
think Kyrie is like the same way. He's like, I'll
tell you the earth is flat. Why because everybody's gonna
report that I said there at this flat. Actually Kyrie
(05:18):
believes that, But I get your point. You know what
I'm saying, Jim, I mean, Shanahan is out here rotating
quarterbacks mid drive, rotating quarterbacks like like like like this
is like what like this is high school football. So
there's so So I believe that the reason you're seeing
this one is Kyle Shanahan showing off his genius to
also showing off his genius and at least in his
own mind by not showing his hand so that you're
(05:41):
not getting in upper hand. You don't know exactly what
he's gonna do come week when as you mentioned, he
kind of keeps saying, come see me if you want
to know the answer. I don't even know. You'll know
when I tell you. You know, he's been kind of
smart alecky about it. Um. But I also think it
may be still building stock and a Jimmy g meeting.
If I said him too soon ride and just kind
of we're over him. He ain't the guy. Maybe the
(06:02):
stock drops a little bit on him, and I'm trying
to get the most that I can. So if I'm
projecting him, or at least it's you know, as you
just mentioned, it's projected that he'll be the first game starter,
and it's looking like he's the leader of the team.
And if I can maybe get him out there, get
him some reps, get him some plays. He looks good.
You don't still don't know who the number one is
quite yet, and maybe just keep him up there enough
somebody might get me a second round, maybe maybe a
(06:24):
first round, a first round for him or something, because
as you mentioned, at the end of the day, he
not only is he been hurt, he just isn't that
spectacular dynamic. And when you are someone like a Kyle
Shanahan and you get a new shiny toy, right, and
you brand yourself as these young new coaches hymn Sean
McVeigh of being like these mad scientists, and you look
down and you see a tray lance. That's a pretty
(06:45):
shiny toy you want to play with, right, And then
not only that, the organizational cost that you spent to
go get tray lance. When you had a quarterback like
Jimmy g alright, you had a all the things we
said about Jimmy you were true before they traded up
a boatload to the number three pick to go get
him right, to go get trade lands. All everything we
said about Jimmy g was true. And so I don't
(07:05):
think there is valid point because we'll talk about a
little bit like the Shawn Watson is back on the
trade market, right and we know all the baggage that
comes along with him. It's like there's quarterbacks being moved.
Gardner Minshew just moved after he lost his after they
lost that sham quarterback controversial contra competition in Jackson Love
that you said it was sham because we didn't know
who the quarterback was gonna be right wing wing, but
(07:26):
yet we still didn't know there was a chance that
maybe Tim Tebow could make the team. And by the way,
you just mentioned Gardner mensh you I'm a little upsetly
two things. One, your butt your your face is butt naked, Okay,
where is your mustache? The first time I've shaved in
three years? Yeah, I know, that's why. That's why I
just said that I don't even know who you wan
that you had your mask on that first so I
was like, I mean, this is just regular lead. Now
you took it off and I don't even know who
you are. Girlfriend didn't recognize me yesterday. And secondly, I'm
(07:47):
not done with you. He just mentioned Gardner met you
the platinum power pelt and you had and he had.
I told you need the last time I saw you.
What were you going to get? You're going to get
a haircut, and I told you get the Gardener, menshew,
and you just went ahead and got the hood you get.
I got the Platinum powerpel Like, now you got the
garden Yeah, yeah, the Dodger player. But what's that? Where
to mant you at? I got it for you, all right?
(08:08):
Let me let me, let me see. I had to
go get a passport photos, so I wasn't for you know, okay,
I wasn't going to do that. You're trying to be
in the dough. I'm sorry, I digress. You got me
going right there when you started talking about Gardener mens you.
But the quarterbacks are on the movies, and you're right
about that, and Jimmy G. Jimmy Jimmy G is like
he we're gonna look back at his record, the fact
that you have Super Bowl rings, and he's gonna look
(08:30):
like a better quarterback than he really was. Well, the
thing is he got anointed by Belichick. That was really
what it was. He got drafted by Belichick and then
and then you know, he was traded for a second round,
you know, like he was traded for you know, Belichick
wouldn't just let him go for a second round. Belichick
just you know, he drafted something. Michelle let him go
for a fourth round pick. Like Belichick is. If you
look at I read this article years and years ago
(08:52):
that that that outlined how he drafts. He just gives
himself more chances. That's why he's That's why he has
If you look at the Patriot always trading back into
the top of the second round because they're finishing somewhere
between thirty second in the draft order. He just gives
himself more chances. Right, So, like, I don't necessarily think
that Jimmy g I think he's an average quarterback. I
don't think he's I don't think that he is he
(09:13):
any better than Jared Golf who got you to the
Super Bowl, Or are Carson Wentz who probably would have
had that team to a super Bowl if they hadn't
gotten hurt, Nick Foles who won the Super Bowl. And
there's a lot of guys who were just guys, which
just a great point, Martin, And I always that's why
I always tell people it's complicated in the NFL, because
you're gonna have the guy for twenty years and it
(09:34):
wasn't that long, but just roll with it. You gonna
have Drew Brief for twenty years, right, you go to
once what you win a Super Bowl with him? Right,
that's it. You can have Dan Marino maybe the greatest
pure pastor of all time, and you get to one
never get back. Uh, we can go down the list.
You had Aaron Rodgers and Brent fare for almost thirty
(09:55):
years actually probably exactly thirty years now at this point,
and you've got two super Bowl rings to show thirty
years with the two two of the top what ten
twelve quarterbacks of all time? And if you want to
go top two of the last maybe seven or eight
in the modern era and you have too. So it
is a complicated thing in the NFL because I can
give you said quarterback, best quarterback I ever seen my
(10:16):
own eyes is Aaron Rodgers. And you know me being
alliance man, I saw it all the time until now
Pratt Mahomes. As we get progressed, He'll kind of take
that rain, but one super Bowl ring. Then you just
mentioned I can have more Brad Johnson walking around with
a Super Bowl ring, Brad that he was all right,
he was cool your part as a Saints fan. One
of the things that eats me alive is is is
(10:37):
between the Minnesota miracle, between that rams cheap the flag
that never happened, and then because all of those were
eminently winnable Super Bowls for the NFC side. Agree, all
of them were intimately winnable for the NFC side. In fact,
the Eagles wanted with the backup quarterback. Okay, I agree.
The next the Patriots when it's going thirteen points, the
(11:00):
RAM scored three points, and it's and because the number
the changes. The change when you have two Super Bowl rings,
and I put you and it puts you in an
entirely different level of the conversation. And it's a place
where I felt that Drew Brees, Drew Brees deserved to
be like, you know, like when it's all said doing
Dan Marino deserves to be in the conversation of the
(11:23):
guys who have to read even though he doesn't you
know what I'm saying. Like, like, if you look around
the room and you're looking at these guys with two
super brees and be like, oh, where's Dan because you
didn't get a second Well, where's Drew Brees? He didn't
get this. Where's Aaron Rodgers? He didn't get a second one?
Especially when you look at his contemporaries, You've got guys
like Big Ben who got to Eli Manning has to
write Peyton Manning was able to get a couple, So
(11:44):
his own contemporaries, we're gonna ignore Tom Brady. Okay, Tom
Brady can loan out too, and everybody still have a couple.
So uh, but if you're looking at contemporaries, it would say, like,
does anybody think Eli Manning was a better quarterback than
Drew Brees? No, but he has the more his story,
a couple of Super Bowl rings, right, we talked about
in the most couple of great plays, a couple of
(12:05):
big time throws. He beat the Patriots. So well. The
thing is, though, I bet you could find a bunch
of people who will call in here and tell you
that Eli was better than Drew Brees because he's got
the two rings. See, but I don't listen to people
who rein count just simply just simply not as a
portion of you from Let's go to New Orleans. That's
a piece of the gumbo, okay, but that is not
the end all, be all gumbo. Jump along here? Which
(12:27):
one gumbo? Okay? My dog? But I mean, I mean
those are two good things. True. It's like you said,
he's like the weather Santiago the summer with the weather,
and like it's like I like both. But you say
that until it comes out of making a decision. And
my wife always makes the rush show. You put oh,
I found a new soulful spot and I sh'll come
home and she like, And so I got you jump along.
I'm not mad, but I would have preferred the gumbo
(12:48):
fair enough, you get what I'm saying. Happy with the
jump block, preferred the gumbo, happy with super Bowl, wouldn't Uh,
Eli Manning would prefer Drew Brees. I would too, I
think most people. And now you got me worried about that.
I almost need to make that a Twitter poll that
shouldn't be closed. But now you have me nervous. Uh,
you just jumped on something. Mary. Let's keep that conversation going.
Deshaun Watson it's a very difficult one. Uh, it's even
(13:10):
difficult conversation to have because there's allegations. We don't know
what's what exactly yet. UM, some a couple of women
to put their names out there now, so that that
does have at a level of credibility when you're rather
to put your name out there. Uh, we can have
that conversation as we come back. Fox Sports Sunday, Calvin Washington,
Martin Wiss and also if you want to reach out
to his eight seven seven three six nine, you know
(13:31):
the number eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Martin
Wits on Twitter came up live because I can't get
to Washington. Is too long, long story. I wanna hold
you up with it. Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Sunday,
Kelvin or Martin Wate is doing with Kelvin Washington and
Kelvin We were getting into it a little bit before
the break. DeShawn Watson. He uh, he's back in the
(13:52):
news right now. He obviously was one of the best
quarterbacks in the NFL, but that's not really the topic
of conversation right. Um, you know, he's been accused some
pretty terrible things. Uh, all of it being alleged at
this point being federally investigated. But the reality of the
situation is the business of the NFL is continuing and
Deshaun Watson still has demanded a trade from the Houston Texans,
(14:14):
and the Houston Texans seemingly are back shopping him on
the market now. Um, he's been linked to the Philadelphia Eagles,
he's been linked to the Miami Dolphins, and uh, just
the reality of the situation is, Like today, Brian Flores
had to answer a question in the postgame press conference
about Deshaun Watson and the Miami Dolphins, you know, interest,
potential interest in him, And he didn't necessarily slam the
(14:37):
door shut on the idea that Watson could be joining
the team. He kind of just no commented it. But
she's kevin your opinion on on this matter, and and
and how this is all kind of playing out. Well,
a couple of things. Uh, the fact that he's not
on the commissioner's exemple list, they say because it wasn't
anything hasn't been concluded by the league that a major
violation has occurred. Uh, that says that says a lot.
(14:58):
One of the things we know in the NFL As
long as you don't kneel, you can get away with anything.
You can get away with murder. And I don't mean
that in a jokingly way. Um, you remember Dante Starworth
in a drunk accident driver accent? It hit someone killed someone, right,
I got back in the league. You can call some
people the N word on tape. Your boy was Rodley Cooper.
Rodley Cooper. Uh, you got him, Riley Cooper. You have
(15:21):
Obviously we've had domestic abuse, We've had people throwing girls
on piles of guns, we got drugs. What you want?
What do you want? You can come on back in
this league. You kneel, You've gone too far, Martin. I
don't gotta give you leeway. So I said that to
say when you heard the Shaun Watson all the news
came out initially like okay, all right, well that's kind
of weird timing. I don't know. Then they just kept
piling on our at two. I believe it is to
(15:44):
with twenty two civil lawsuits. Um, and you would think, okay,
the smoke is it's about something is about to go
down and it hasn't. So that leads me to believe
with Miami other teams like the Panthers, uh, some other
teams as well, showing interests that. It just shows me
that this is probably either gonna handle with maybe some
civil lassit where he pays out a little bit to
(16:05):
some some women, maybe a few of them, handful of
half of them, I don't know. Uh, And he's he's
gonna be able to play. And I think that the
NFL is gonna think if he has traded new place,
that becomes the topic. Right, he's on a new team,
what's he gonna do with my old shoot? Uh to
a top twyef Alonger's gone. So now that that everything
kind of talks about, like goes bigger than the conversation.
(16:25):
And I think the NFL is kind of banking on
that because one of the things they could do it
has been proactive and say, hey man, you gotta sit down.
You know all these allegations, all this is going on,
you could get down. You mentioned if people have mentioned
you kind of set off the air. People wondering the
timing of it too. I demanded trade. All of a sudden,
(16:47):
the news breaks the timing. I mean, there's all types
of different reasons why you could feel like this was
one of those things that is, you know, planted or not,
are are overhyped or or whatever. But at the end
of the day, like like you know, the timing is weird. Okay,
he demanded trade, and all the allegations come out, But
at the end of the day, when you look down
at brass tacks, at very minimum, Deshaun Watson is guilty
(17:10):
of like soliciting massages in a very odd way. Right, Like,
I'm not a professional athlete, but of the professional athletes
who I've talked to, they generally just have a massage therapist,
are someone that they hire, and if they don't like
that person, they fire that person and then hire a
new one. Because most of the professional athletes that I've
come into contact with, obviously this is anecdotal, I've never
played in the league. They're creatures. I have it. They
(17:33):
do the same thing over and over and over again.
They eat the same thing every day, They get up
and work out at the same time every day, and
that's part of the big reason why most of them
have had success. And the athletes that I know cute
hall of famers, right They student players who have played
in the league for ten years, fifteen years, are are
We're really at the top of their sport, right, So
like that's where I'm basing this, not this knowledge off
(17:55):
of at the very least, he's sliding in d m
S in a way that is weird that he was
just a regular person. And he's not just a regular person.
He's just starting quarterback in the NFL and is one
of the best ones of it. So I just would
wish that we would have a higher barrier of like
we're sitting up talking like, okay, is he is he
guilty of assaulting these women? Like at the end of it,
(18:15):
we know he's guilty of being weird when it comes
to these d m s. That's what we know. He's guilty.
He is guilty of that and and his boys. And
let's say, let's let's say that's just it, right, just
for the sake of conversation, Like that's just said. He
is just simply guilty of being weird. But when you're
when you're talking about contracts, you're talking about players, unions,
you know, players, associations, all that kind of stuff, Well,
(18:37):
you're allowed to be weird, you just can't be criminal.
And I think they're in lines of difference. So if
me and you are his homies or his friends, or
his brother or a family. Yes, hey, man, you can't
be weird. You can't do this. Obviously, you can't do
anything that's assaulting a woman or anything like that. But
again I'm trying to just say for a moment, just
to say it is weird, then then that's fine. But
that's where it gets complicated is because again, if you
(18:59):
start to dive in the people's sexual habits are the
way that they solicit things, then they will get weird.
If you look at it, what is it, all the
twelve players in NFL, whatever it is, you're gonna find
some weird stuff. Uh, if you start combing through the
fine tooth comb. So I'm with you and that it's
very strange, especially giving who he is, especially the access
that he has. Hey physical personal trainer at the Texas Hey,
(19:20):
you don't need an MSUs me me at the crib.
They'll take care of it for you, No big deal. Um.
Clearly he is into something out, he's into something strange,
that's without of doubt. But going back on to the
football side of it, if you're Miami and you've got
to give up multiple first rounds, multiple first round and
second round picks. Is it worth it when at any
(19:40):
given moment there could be a potential bombshell. That's what's
fascinating is because my answer is just no, I don't
necessarily want to Shaun Watson in my locker room in general.
And I understand like the things that he could bring
to the football field, but also like the things that
he is going to bring off of the football field,
even if he doesn't do anything whatsoever, or just the
attention that he's bringing to my team is I mean,
(20:03):
people have been cut for entirely less, people have been
careers have ended for entirely less in the NFL, So
like I don't And it's just tough because Sean watching
all all. I mean, when you look back that draft,
he should have been the number one pick, right, you
should have been the number one pick in that draft.
And he's he's an amazing football player on the team
that has not really put much around him throughout his career.
(20:24):
Took stuff away, almost operating, almost operating. It feels like
in bad faith, you're trading away DeAndre Hopkins for a
running back, Like what are we doing here? But I
I just like, I don't know, Maybe it's me. Maybe
it's phineing this guy. Maybe it's because I've never coached
on the NFL sideline or had to sign a player
and never my job was never dependent upon winning a
(20:45):
game on Sunday. But that but that goes back to
what I was saying, though, I think the president has
already been set where this too shall pass. But well,
I think it's interesting about this is because of like
they have all these trade like Charles Hrompinson reported from
supports yesterday that they have these trade protections almost like
(21:05):
almost like in the NBA of trade protections, if you
have a pick is going to be too high, then
that team can hold onto the pick. Well, in the
NFL that's not a thing until yesterday when I read
that the Houston text there is they're seeking trade protections
for some of the picks if Watson is unable to
play because of legal issues, not because of health issues,
(21:26):
for sure, Like a lot of times you have a
conditional pick if like there's some deals with with Carson Wentz,
like if he plays over seventy five percent of offensive snaps,
there's something like money switches all that kind of stuff. Yeah,
but it's always almost always due to what happens on
the field, not off of the field, with the legal process.
But it does lead me to believe that the Dolphins
knows something in a positive way. If you're Deshaun Watson,
(21:48):
meaning that we've done our own investigation, or we duck
round and some snooping, had some people dug dig deep
and find out like most of this is gonna just
either clear or it will be, like I said, a
civil infraction where maybe you know, cash out a hundred
fifty thousand, a million total to divide it up into
whatever amount for the women um and that they're willing
to go ahead and put because us. Because you gotta
(22:09):
think about it. If you're even willing to put your
name out there, meaning the Dolphins, you could take heat
just for not even making the trade. Could bring you
here actively taking it right now floor conference. It's like
going the taco bell. Let me get the mild sauce.
It could be muiente, if you know what I mean.
If it starts getting to where it's looking like it's
gonna happen, let alone happen. So to me, for you
(22:32):
to even put your foot out there again shows one
that they already know, especially in this hashtag era social
media everywhere, we forget. We are mad, we are so
mad about something. A matter of fact, just last summer,
we were so mad what happened to George Floyd When
the last time we talked about that, George Floyd Bill
hasn't passed. Anybody even care about that. So they know
(22:54):
more than ever in the history of mankind. Because we've
got so many things distracting us, we will act like
we care about something and then move on. So they
know the smoke. Oh my god, you can't believe you. Dude,
he's a woman. Beat her. He's accused of this, he's
accused of that, and they know. Come week two we're
one and oh and week two he threw three touchdowns,
ran for one. They'll forget, they'll move on. And I
(23:15):
think they know that because every single reason the players
should have not been on a team has been on
the team. In the NFL. You can want to go,
Mike Vick, you want to go plexic worlds shooting this?
I mean, what do you want? I mean, I hear
what you're saying. It's just I just wish that the
NFL had a higher standard of like, and I know
it just doesn't exist. I know it doesn't exist, that
piece upon the sky thing. I just wish that we
could have it, like I have a league where Okay,
(23:37):
I understand that like maybe Tyree kill k. We can't
prove that he broke his his kid's arm, but we
can prove he was on the phone talking very not
nice to the mother of his child, right, Like I'm saying,
like that the problem with them understand the contracts and
all this, not even that, not even that. The problem
is you will be shocked. For instance, they do research
on how police officers. If you look up the research,
(23:58):
they're just statistically hire a users of women and even
football players. Right, So then are you gonna start, you know,
canceling out like you can walk in any walk of life,
any fascin any job in the industry and uh and say, well,
you know, well this person is a bad when he
didn't pay his taxes, right, he didn't that And you're
gonna have a very small amount of workers in any workforce.
So I get what you're saying, but that's the word that,
(24:20):
that's the bad part about the human experiences. You're always
gonna have classless, stupid people, uh, harmful people in every facet.
You know, well, I do know this. I think it's
fascinating that the NFL is offering these picks or not
the NFL, but they're exploring the idea of these pick
protections because the business of the league does have to continue,
(24:41):
right The business of the league has to continue whether
or not this player is gonna be on the commissioner's
example list or whatever the situation as it holds. You
can't just hold up one quarterback spot in the league.
Something is gonna have to shake. But I just I
wouldn't be trading for him. I wouldn't be interested in
trying to trade for him right now. And it just
shows you what winning, winning matter. And then you mentioned it.
If my job's on the line as a general manager
(25:03):
of coach, I gotta get it done. He's better than
two like to him, maybe progression next year could be
even better. He ain't, Deshaun Watson and uh, and that's
that's why, all right, Uh, Fox Sports Sunday, Calvin Washington,
Martin wise with you. Uh, we gotta come back in
just a minute, but we do want to come back.
Carry the conversation to some other the young guns right now,
how they looked thus far, and some decisions that need
to be made on whose starts. We will do that
(25:25):
next Right now was trending with Steve a Singer In
Sunday night baseball at Oakland. The Ace have taken a
one nothing lead over the Yankees games in the top
of the fifth inning. The Yankees had one thirteen straight
until yesterday's lost. The A started the day three and
a half games out of the final ALE wild card
spot behind Boston. Boston lost seven five at Cleveland. Seattle
was a fourth three winner over Kansas City. Tampa Bay
(25:47):
wanted seventh straight game twelve eight at Baltimore. Tampa Bay
went eighteen and one against the Orioles this year. Colorado
shut out the Dodgers five nothing in l A. Atlanta
shut out the Giants nine thing. The Braves are first
in the n L E, still four and a half
up on Philadelphia, which gotta win seven four over Arizona
and Madison Bumgardner. Miami a to one winner against Cincinnati
(26:08):
and Tyler Maylee, who had been ten and four this year.
The Reds lead for the final NL wild Cards, but
game and a half over San Diego, which had today off. St.
Louis only three and a half back in the last
wild card St. Louis enclosure. Alex Rey has lost for
three at Pittsburgh. Michigan won the Little League World Series
beating Ohio five to two. In college football this week,
Ohio States opener is Thursday night on Fox TV. At Minnesota,
(26:32):
Ravens starting running back J. K. Dobbins is out for
the year with a torn a c L. He was
heard in the preseason finale last night. Vikings tight end
r Smith will have knee surgery. Minnesota gave safety Harrison
Smith a four year extension five NFL exhibitions for this
Sunday to end the preseason going on right now, The
Patriots was seven minutes left in the game, lead nineteen
(26:53):
fourteen at the Giants. Mac Jones with a touchdown pass
Cam Newton went two for five ten yards pass one interception,
and it's the Browns leading seven nothing in Atlanta about
four minutes left in the first quarter. Baker Mayfield started,
has a touchdown past six of ten a hundred thirteen
yards for Mayfield. Austin Hooper Cleveland tight end with one
(27:14):
catch for thirty five yards, and rookie tight end for
Atlanta Kyle Pitts one catch for twenty seven yards. Among
the earlier games, Jacksonville one at Dallas thirty fourteen. Rookie
quarterback Trevor Lawrence with two touchdown passes. Patrick Cantley was
the golf winner after the sixth playoff hole. Back to you.
Appreciate it, Steve. Thank you. Check back in with you
in about thirty minutes or so. Another thing we want
(27:36):
to get to. We'll get to just a little bit
as the the COVID factor in the NFL. And really,
I mean, you could argue, you know, you can say
the world, but obviously we're gonna talk some sports here
and how it could affect teams. Right now, the New
England Patriots are up eight on the New York Giants,
and we know that Cam Newton, there's someone night there
who is not vaccinating. You gotta kind of wonder how
that could play out there. I want to throw some
more some more young guns at you. We were talking
(27:58):
in the beginning top of the show, or wasn't maybe
the offer, but Trevor Lawrence uh expected to start gardener
man show. He his hair cut and his and his
mustache are gone. He's gonna be with the Eagles. What
do you want you look up. I can't even talk
to you anymore. You don't even have mustache anymore. You're
not in this conversation. I'm under age. I get it. Yeah, yeah,
you got you gotta grow mustache and get back in
(28:18):
this conversation. But there there's no surprise there. Um he's
struck a little bit. That offensive line looks terrible. I'm
I think that the Jaguars are going to be in
a world I hurt this year. I think that if
you just look at since Irban Meyers taking the job,
it just seems like there's been so much wasted time,
right that you first, you first, you hire Chris Doyle,
(28:39):
the strength coach, who's Who's the only reason that anybody
knew who his name outside if I was because he
was a wild racist, right like that, That's the reason
that people knew his name. That's it. And Urban Meyer
does his you know, well, I've vetted him in this
and that, and you know we all know how how
you know, you just go back and look at Urban
Myers College Nation know how intense his vetting process can
can be or not be right thereof right, But I
(29:01):
just between between Chris Doyle, it just started. It started
right pretty much what was one of the first moves
after it got hired. Then bringing in Tebow and doing
the whole Tim Tebow thing and having him just being
and then the whole Like the idea that you're gonna
draft a guy first overall and he's not taking every
first team rep through training camp makes no sense to
me whatsoever. And like so for for for him to
(29:24):
have that sham quarterback competition between Gardner Minshew and Trevor Lawrence,
it's just wasted time in the league where you have
like twelve padded practices before it's time to play. It's
a great point. And not to mention, I mean there's
a few quarterbacks I could see that withou. Let's say
Trey Lance for instance, right, because he's kind of unknown,
we don't really know him like that. He's like, we
know he's good and we know the the strength is there.
(29:46):
But this is Trevor Lawrence. The last guy we compared
him to his Andrew Luck, who the last guy we
compared him to was Peyton Manning. You've all I mean,
you see the trading where I'm going there, and Andrew
Luck with bad offensive lines, bad teams were still a
heck of a quarterback, and you kind I knew where
he was going. He was headed to Hall of Fame career.
One of those guys you can lean on the build
a franchise with. And if we're saying Trevor Lawrence is that,
(30:07):
then why are we playing the games? You know you
don't there's certain guys and again I can understand, all right, well,
we don't know. We're gonna look not to mention if
you have a starter. There a Jimmy g who has
been proven to be victory, you've proven to take in
the Super Bowl, has a lot of experience, even with
the Patriots. I can understand you wanted to I don't know.
I'm sorry. Gardner Manshew, who was that he was? You know,
(30:27):
he's been okay with what he had and he would
be a solid backup if you're the Eagles, you gotta
be all right, cool, that's you know, I'm alright with
that being my backup. But we don't have to play
the game. But I'll tell you this though, the idea,
if you're gonna play the game, make it make sense.
Make it like if Gardner Minshew and Trevor Lawrence were
really truly competing to win the quarterback job in Jacksonville?
(30:48):
Then how is it that Gardner Minshew moves? Was it yesterday?
For a sixth round pick? It doesn't make any sense.
Sleep could potentially be a fifth round, but it doesn't
make any sense. Like like if Trey Lance starts for
if Tray Lance walks in and starts for Jimmy j
week one, which I don't think it's going to happen,
what's the asking first for Jimmy g It ain't no
sixth round pick, it's not what the Texans are asking
(31:10):
for the show. Ain't no multiple first round picks. But
it's somewhere in the middle, Like we're talking to maybe
a couple of twos and some threes, right, maybe a
first one, first round. You know, it's just starting quarterback
in this league. Yeah, it's a real one. So so
Trevor Lawrence. But he looks I mean, for what we saw, Uh,
he's had he had some few, had some nice throws
that you can mention, his arms strong, He looks, he
looks the part. He definitely looks the part. Uh struggle
(31:32):
a bit. As you mentioned that that team down there, man,
they're gonna have to the offense isn't gonna look great.
The offensive line is bad, so he's gonna be some struggle.
Not a lot of weapons there. So I mean, if
you're here and the only thing you can kind of
be banking on is looking at I mentioned the name
Peyton Manning just how his first struggle the first year
or two and then obviously was able to become Peyton Manning.
So he can maybe hang your hat on as we
as years go by, one of your two years go by,
(31:53):
you're able to start getting something going and maybe feel
better about yourself. Uh. Somebody's actually we were talking about
this game here the Patriots John uh mac Jones, they
said he's were looking good and in practice they at
one point they said that he was and and they
haven't it's been reported because obviously it's not that we're
highlighting practices on television or anything, but that was reported
(32:14):
that even thirty five or forty uh and and in
a joint practice with the Giants, and he looked sharp.
And obviously he having a guy like him who is
gonna be accurate, got some size in a world where
Cam Newton injury prone. Uh, you're talking about COVID situations
where it's I mean, it almost feels like it's inevitable,
something's gonna come up. Maybe if it's not that he's
(32:36):
it is inevitable at this point because again, remember it
doesn't even have to be that you contracted COVID. It
could be that you're in you know, quarantine because you
were around someone protocol. So it almost seems inevitable. So
then you got mac Jones, looks like he's gonna be uh,
it's gonna be interesting. I think they're gonna start Newton
first because I think they look at last year and
(32:57):
they had all those guys who took the opt outs
from the out of it was on the defensive end,
and Cam Newton missed about what three games four games,
so and yet they instanted up with a solid season.
I think they look at that and say, man, if
Cam Newton had better time, better prepared, did miss any
games and all the opt out state, man would have
been a okay yeah. But the thing is now they did.
(33:17):
But that's before they took a page quarterback with the
fifte overall pick. Right, that's before like that all of
that was well and good. I think what happened Kim,
you know vaccination status. That's on him. He doesn't want
to get the shot. He doesn't want to get the shot. Okay,
got it. But the reality of this situation is being
unvaccinated is a competitive disadvantage. Like that's just the only
(33:40):
way you can that's the only way you can describe it,
because you're gonna be put under different circumstances and protocols.
And the players who are vaccinated like the idead, like
think about Kelvin. You've covered enough football to know that
the most important thing is can you play on Sunday?
They don't care if you like like guys like DeAndre
Hopkins whoever, were like, you can go all week and
(34:02):
not we'll see you Friday. Pal, come Friday, let's walk
through because we need you on Sunday. We know what
you can do. We don't need you for practice, right,
But this is like if you can't play Sunday, then
what are we doing? And if and the way it
stays now, if Cam Newton bumped into somebody on Wednesday
at the grocery store hypothetically speaking, and that person had
(34:24):
you know that, and now he's a close contact, he
can't play. So I think the reality like I was long.
I agree with you. I thought Cam was gonna be
the Week one starter. But the more and more I
think about it, and the more and more I think
of the reality of this virus, and the reality of
this of the Delta variant, and the reality of some
of the NFL players reticent to be vaccinated. Right, so
(34:44):
you can't even you can't even um like operate, you
can't even go maskless and feel good about it. And
in some of these places, right because you have at
least one or two or three people were very vocal
saying no, I'm not going I'm not doing this. You
still got a social this is all those stuff I
don't it's I would not be surprised if Cam Newton
(35:05):
is not on the NFL team. Well, that also does
lead to why you might start him and get the
best that you can out of him, knowing we're gonna
have to go to mac Jones, not even because we
wanted to, like, oh, he just looks great in practice,
he's just performing well, just because all right, he's prepared,
get on in there. Because week two, week three, week five,
Cam is out for exactly mean think about I mean
(35:26):
that almost is why you almost look at it that
get all that we can out of him. Now, I mean,
let's say it's six weeks, let's go forward to with Cam,
then it's gonna happen. And now that was our transition
into mac Jones and we ride this thing on out.
But think about the Bill Belichick that I mean, I
don't know him personally. I don't know if you do,
But the Bill Belichick that we've been reported to over
the last twenty years, do you think he had some
(35:48):
sentimental feeling about what you know, like like some reason.
Like I feel like the more and more think about it,
the more I am concerned for Cam Newton's NFL career
going forward, like really like legitimately as somebody who has
been a Cam Newton fan for a long time. And
I thought that like he by himself did a lot
of crazy stuff, but I just, uh, he he did
(36:11):
so much like he was m v P, you know,
fifteen and one all of that. But I think his
career is in real jeopardy. That's not far fetched, between
health and all of them, the COVID, it's not far fetched.
All Right, We're gonna switch gears for a minute. Uh
talk a little NBA because that you heard Ray, Jean
Rondo looking like he's gonna be a Laker, And the
fact of the matter is is that the Laker nets
versus the rest. Is there any other body who can
jump in and crash this East coast West coast party
(36:32):
that we're gonna have an NBA. We'll talk about that next.
Martin wis Kelvin Washington, Fox Sports Sunday, Martin wie Kelvin Washington,
here with you on Fox Sports Sunday. Cam Newton man,
And you know what, Cam Newton is the toughest nails bro.
He really is. If you think about it, why do
you say that? Which I mean he superman, But why
do you say that? I mean, if you just think
(36:53):
about it, Like I was just thinking about this the
other day talking with Aaron Torres. He's been the best
player on his team from Tim Tebow to Stan McCaffrey,
Like Cam Newton was the best offensive player on his team.
And it's just it's just sad to see that. I
feel like, I really do feel like it's gonna be interview.
You're definitely are putting in in the in the sports casket,
not real life cast with us. I mean, I mean,
(37:13):
I'm thinking about it because it's like, dude, if anybody's
gonna send him off the pastor, it will be Bill Belichick, right,
like if anybody's gonna do it, like if anybody's gonna
if anybody's going to cut, if cut cut someone a
year too soon, right, a year early, it'll be Bill Belichick, right.
And then we're just like I mean, around around the league,
some of the guys that I'm talking to, they're not
taking the call if if the player doesn't have the shot,
(37:36):
well and maybe he will get the shot, Okay, so
let's just have the shot conversation and we could talk.
We'll talk uh Nets Lakers in just a moment. One
of the things, people are gonna push the goal post back,
take athletes out of it, just your average person at
the grocery store, you work with your family members. I'm
not getting that shot to the FDA approved. Well, the
FDA just approved, finds us now it's sorry, Well they
(37:59):
approved it too fast. You know they're gonna people are
gonna move the goalpost. But some people, there are a
sliver of people. I've been talking about this all over
anywhere I've been. Do we operate in extremisms? Right, You've
got people the minute we have a vaccine, they couldn't
even get the out in vaccine for somebody like stabbed
me in the arm. I'm ready, I want to go
back out. And then you have people it's not real
as Bill Gates and the putting chips in arm. Right,
(38:20):
there's extremes. There are people who simply want more time,
more information and FDA approval. Maybe just maybe Cam Newton
falls in the group of a little more time has passed,
We've frowned out, a little bit more moderna is gonna
be passed here, FDA proved probably in another few weeks,
and maybe he'll say, all right, it is an FDA
prove here. Here we go. Maybe one NFL team gets
(38:43):
screwed over before and he goes you know what I mean.
If you look the Tennessee Titans are currently in a
pretty tough spot because you know, some some of the
players are actually into something not but like they're they're
dealing with proving protocols. Isaiah McKenzie for the bills posted
just yesterday the day before, He's like, I'm not paying
fifteenth some more dollars for not having this vaccine. I'm
just go ahead, are are violating the protocols because I
(39:05):
didn't have the vaccine. I'm gonna ahead and get it,
so I have to worry about those protocols. Competitive advantage. No,
it's gonna be and I think again, what's interesting to
me is all of us went to school and we
have vaccinations because you weren't getting in without him. Um,
many of us have certain vaccinations that you didn't You
when you fill out that job back, you don't even
(39:25):
think twice you got TV shot or whatever. You're like, yeah, whatever,
let me get this job. Social media, this is why
I don't subscribe to hashtags and wokensm like that. I'm
down with some of them, you know what I mean. Now,
it's say, as far as social justice and everybody, everybody
has their battle right the things that matter to you.
I get that, but social media all of us sudden.
(39:45):
Now all of us are you know, and I don't
mean literally all of us, but folks vaccination hesitant and this,
that and the other when they've never been before, they
never cared before. But there are a few cool people
who can say stuff really fast and know how to
edit videos quickly on TikTok the make you go oh
see what I'm saying, and I understand it again. I'm
not the person who was running out there getting this
(40:06):
shot at I mean, what's going on. My wife, for clarity,
has worked in vaccinations for years, so it was all right,
hold on, what's going on? All right, hold on now.
But eventually you gotta do what you have to do.
And it's just interesting to me now that the crusaders
and I'm like, what do you really know what you're
fighting for? Is this the fight that you want to fight?
Considering you've showed up to many NFL camper schools vaccinated
for something in order to get these jobs. I just
(40:28):
I know, well, I left the country and give me
that shot, you know. Marto wise covin Washington, Fox Sports Radio.

kind of want to continue the conversation that we would
I were just having. I know we're supposed to do
with the Lakers and the nets coming up. We'll have
that one. We'll have that one at six. Hit me
with it right now. You know, you and I two guys.
(41:36):
You're from Detroit. I spend a significant enough time there
where people will falsely claim I am from Detroit. Me
and Ron Parker in the same boat and that from there.
By the way, how scary is this we're talking about him?
I'm on the website, got it all set up for
the conversation we were gonna have, and look was bothering
me at the bottom of the screen, not other than
Ron Parker or some some video and him popular guys,
(41:57):
you didn't call me? Have you come on all over
dead spin dot com. It's it's it's it's a travesty
at this point. But I want to talk about another
detroitter who has traveled out to l A and its
start a new job following us. The three of us
came out of here and now Matthew Stafford the starting
quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. A deal consummated on
(42:20):
a beach in Cabo for sure. You know, between Seawan
McVay and Matt Stafford and uh, I think the Rams
are gonna be really good this year. I think they
have a real shot to compete in the NFC. But
you seem like you have a little I needed to
pump the brakes a little bit. Well, it's the thing.
First of all, you're absolutely right, Matthew Stafford has maybe
(42:41):
top three armed talent abilities in the league. However, with that,
it has been frustrating as a Lions plan slash former
because I said on this air many about three years ago.
Bobbo might remember when I denounced my lying to them
because of matt Patricia being hired with a number two
pencil and laminated cast. She what are you writing on
it's laminated. I'm not gonna lie. That's one of the
(43:03):
things I was. I was early on that season one
like Game three, like what's he doing with a pencil?
Why do we have? And you got a surface or
whatever the tablet is, and you got laminated set what
we're doing here? So don't don't play the football. It
looked like a hardcore football coach anyway, Matthew Stafford. I
probably watched ninety two of his throws right, just as
(43:25):
a Lions fan loved it. Credit Matthew Stafford for taking
a franchise in the dungeon, the worst franchise laughable, oh
in sixteen. And he made him at least relevant, had
a couple of years in the postseason, had some years
when they were right there? Had you know, had he
made Megatron, got him in the Hall of Fame. So
he did some things. Who are a franchise? Trust me?
(43:45):
Or life longer longer? Who that is like? Or at
least we were relevant or at least ish for a
few years. But some of his deficiencies I think might travel.
I just when I was in Detroit, I'm not a
Lions fan. I didn't. I didn't wasn't born with the lines.
I didn't grow up with the lines. In my first
year in Detroit, the lines went over in sixteen okay,
(44:06):
So I had no reason to avery, you know, did
not We surely didn't welcome you to that I had had.
I had no reason, no reason to care about the lines.
So I started working in radio in Detroit, and then
I started to care because the people in Detroit truly,
truly try to tell passionate. The Lions have given them nothing.
Have you seen a more excited fan base the Lion
to have to get absolutely no return on investment. Lions
(44:30):
fans are incredible. So I would love it to see
like Jared Golf ever to go to a great start,
but they just traded away Matt, I mean Matt Staffort
in the Rams. There's never been a period of time
in Matt Stafford's career where he has been in an
organization obviously has been in the same one its whole career,
but in in an organization in which he is like
(44:51):
geared for success. Like if you think about it, the
Rams went to the Super Bowl and like I said,
very winnable super Bowl for whoever was winning in the
NFC side, Should they have gone one? Probably not if
like you know, standard pass interference rules are called in
in a in a championship game, that's all you would
expect as somebody just watching the game on TV. But
but you know that's neither here nor there. They went.
(45:11):
They lost. But when you're leading up to that Super
Bowl and the way that they're the whole thing was
it was all Sean McVeigh and he was just basically
using Jared Golf as a joystick, right, like that was
the that was the place that controller, and Sean McVeigh
is the one. He's literally telling him who to throw
the ball to coming out of coming out of the breaks.
And one of the reasons why the Rams only scored
(45:32):
three points in that Super Bowl is because after the headsets,
you know, the coach, the player, head the coach, the
quarterback headset cut off after fifteen seconds of the play clock.
Belichick would just change the defense sixteen seconds into the
play clock seventeen seconds. And so now everything is different
with Matt Stafford. He's not Sean McVeigh is not going
to have to be as hands on with Matt Stafford
(45:54):
as he has as as he was with Jared Goff.
And I think that's it's gonna open up the offense
in a way that like we look at San Francisco
in the way that they have so many different ways
of running the ball, and then they make everything look
the same and all of a sudden, it's like Wells
most it's over there, Yuk is over here, George Kettle
is running people over This is I think the Rams
(46:16):
offense with Matt Stafford is going to open up and
be one of the best in the league. Here's my
everything you said. I think most people would agree and
concur with they that they should be better. On paper,
Matthew Stafford is better than Jared Golf. Is he a
Hall of Famer? No? But is he better than Golf significantly? Yes?
Has he had an incredible career for what you'd want
(46:37):
to hate. He's thrown the ball well in a situation.
Hasn't been great when he was in Detroit, But as
a Detroit fan, I would tell you there were games,
there were moments where he didn't do it and it
was not the team's father wasn't and Matt Millan at
the time or whoever GM was, it was Matthew Stafford
didn't get to get it done. And trust me, I
saw ninety plus percent of his passes and downs and everything,
(47:00):
and there are certain moments it's actually opposite with him.
He didn't get structured moments. Well, all right, this drive,
we got time, all we got five minutes. All we good?
And he operated his best out of chaos. That's when
I started calling the cardiac cats, because when it was
all chaotic is when he was at his best. But
what frustrated me was, Dude, when it was okay, you
got plenty of time, plenty of timeoutse plenty of you know,
(47:22):
you can make this happen, he wasn't able to. When
it was down third and six, I need this past completed,
he wouldn't. He would overthrow people, he would use that
arm talent almost too much. And there's just something about him.
And it's the second watch this. It's the same thing
we say about Tom Brady. Never had the biggest, strongest arm.
We already know he is the least mobile, all these
different types of things. That's something about him. He just
(47:44):
knows how to get it done. At times, it's been
the opposite for Matthew Staff him like, duck, you've got
enough receivers, you got enough offense. Defense. We had a
few good years with when and domin ensuing the gang
Nick Fairley, we had actually the think the top three
defense for a couple of years. He just couldn't get
it done, and they got screwed over against the Cowboys
and playoffs, those in the wild card game. They weren't
(48:05):
gonna win the super Bowl, like like they weren't winning
the super Bowl. Well, the obvious antra but get in
the tournament, any tournament. I got a shot, let me
get in. Let me then don't take away a flag
because you never know what could happen after that, right,
I mean you're talking to the number one. Just throw
(48:28):
and that's a legitimate beef. I'm with you. But now
I just when I've watched the lines, I covered them
for like six seven years when I was in Detroit,
Matthew Staffords like his ability. It's like you said, he
was great in the chaos moments, right, So sure, so
I I maybe the moments of the structure, like the
(48:49):
moments of structure, the scripted plays, like the things were,
you know, third or six. We should go to our
best play here, our best moment here. I feel like
I'm obviously he's not devoid of all blame, right and
and Rob Rob will come up here, he's probably ears
attorney red talking about stat Padford, and he's got all
these meaningless stats and meaningless throws and and and and
throws against teams that are under five hundred and so
(49:10):
on and so forth. But part of me just feels like,
you sit back, you're looking with Matt Patricia the last
few years in the way that that he was running
the organization. Jim called well, seemed to be the only
competent coach that Matt Patricia. I mean that that Matt
Stafford has had in his career. And Jim called well,
I mean he hasn't gotten He hasn't worked anywhere since
as a head coach. Right went to a super Bowl
(49:33):
in Indianapolis beforehand. Was just a student of Tony Dungee
have it. He has a good idea of what he's
doing when it comes to football. Right, Um, And that
was when he was an issue. I mean, he was
a bit store, but he wasn't the issue. He wasn't
the capital T capital I issue. Was he a issue? Sure,
if you want to make a case for it, I'm
not gonna sit here and argue with you. I think
they should have fired him, absolutely not, right Like, I
(49:54):
think that's the stupid I think that you can't fire
him and not have the guy ready. That's the thing.
But I also never thought that Matt Stafford was a
Capital D Capital I issue either, because if you just
sat around, Matt Stafford probably start for boy outside of Rogers,
Brady Mahomes, you know what I'm saying. But I put
it like this, Mats Stafford would have started in New
(50:15):
Orleans the last three years. Yeah, I mean would start.
But have we over And this is again coming from
somebody who's rooting for him. I want the best for him,
but I've we overrated him slightly. But I guess what
I keep saying, here's me here's my thing. The real
quarterbacks who are talented, who does something about them? They
just find a way to get it done right. Like
(50:37):
Andrew Luck didn't always have the best situations running for
his life. But and I'm not sat Matthew Stafford. But
I mean they're both number one pick, so like you
couldn't compare them. But Andrew Luck I believed in him
more and I'm not wasn't a Colts fan, then I would.
Then Matt Stafford. There are some other quarterbacks you just go, man,
it's just something about him. Russell Wilson in the beginning.
(50:57):
Right now we know he's a superstar and all that,
but in the beginning we didn't. It was but it
was something about him. Ben Roethlisberger, now superstar, had a
heck of a career headed to the Hall of Fame.
In the beginning, you're like, man, it's just something about him.
I feel like he can get it done. And Matthew Stafford,
I don't know what it is. It just quite couldn't
get it. He couldn't get it done. And I, as
a fan, I was like, I don't believe in him. Fully.
(51:18):
Now he has the hero excuses. Now you just mentioned it.
He has a creative quarterback coach Sean McVeigh a head coach,
but a guy who knows how to be a quarterback.
Whisper really actually depends on the runboard and we want
to go there. He actually uses a run great. Now
they lost acres, but the users the running game well
has argued the best defender we've seen in ten fifteen years,
and and and uh, Aaron Donald and the crew the
(51:40):
defense should be good too, really good. Got offense on
the offensive weapons on the outside. When you got to
Sean Jackson for the speed, I mean if ever somebody
in life was like, Bro, I don't want to hear
any excuses. This was it. Yeah, he's gotta know he's
got an absolutely no great weather like no situation and
(52:00):
too like the number one is Sean McVeigh though, if if,
if you're because if you're looking at Sean McVeigh and
the things that he was able to do with Jared Goff,
who we can all admit was does not have the
same armed town. Oh no, Matthew Stafford arm is amazing
when he's on, it's like it's like better. But ex example,
Jack Color, when Jack Color makes him throws you like, Bro,
(52:20):
and one of the things that you said, like Stafford
was the best at and it is the best. That
is when it's off schedule, when everything when his guys
around his ankles, when everything is falling apart, matt Stafford
sometimes will just be able to uncork at sixty five
yards and Calvin Johnson makes a catch, right, or Kenny
Golladay in in the in the most recently right. So
I just find that, like Jared Goff, is not that
(52:41):
if everything's not perfect, Like you were talking about vaghan Way,
he used the running game if golf, if If golf
can't do play action, it's gonna get ugly. If golf
is just dropping back. Let me think about it. Jared
Golf was active on the roster after breaking his thumb
and wasn't the starting quarterback for the Rams. That was
telling that was that that's you need to know right there.
You know what I'm saying that you ask, you know
(53:02):
what's going on. He's like, you know, he's active, Why
wouldn't he played? McVeigh thinks that other guy can move
the ball better? The other guy who the guy with
the LinkedIn profiled John that thing updated right exactly. But
so that's I just think like when you had a
quarterback situation that was so dire, like the rest of
the world maybe not looked at it as die or
(53:23):
is that, but think upout when you've ever heard of
a starting number one pick already signed his contract quarterback
is active and not starting the game, Like that's that's crazy.
So now that now that mcveigh's got his guy, like
this is they he went out and got his guy.
The is Stafford? The what it? We got a break? Here?
(53:44):
Is he? What quarterback is? The NFC went second best,
third best, the best. I have. I would have Stafford
as the best quarterback in the NFC West. Right that
your boy up there in Seattle's on that team too, Right,
But Russell Wilson if they don't have, like everybody wants
to talk with Russell Wilson, let them let him cook
and then he cooks and then the second half the
(54:05):
season falls off. You're doing No Russell Wilson, it still exists. Right.
I'm not saying. I'm not saying that make him take
a football sabbatical, but I'm saying, you know, Matthew Stafford,
Russell Wilson got the same money of MVP votes this
man and loss his mind. You're trying to tell me
Matthew Stafford is better than Russell Wilson. No, but I
do think I think the Russell Wilson overall is a
better quarterback. I think staff would have a better year
(54:25):
this year. Where we're gonna put something some wings on it,
as your boy Rob Parkers said, we're gonna put something
on that we can do that. We'll put something. We'll
have to quantify what better your means, We'll do that
in the commercial bred we I we'll hashes out and
y'all can get in on the bet too. Yeah, I'll
take two for well, you the bet man. Matter of fact,
I'll let you make the odds and all that good stuff.
We'll figure it out. We'll figure that out in the
break and then figure it and then we'll let everybody
know what we're actually gonna do. Martin Wie's Calvin Wall,
(54:47):
she took Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next, Lakers nets
or the rest. Who's going to win the NBA Finals
this year? Does anybody else have a shot between anybody
outside of the two coasts? Do they have a shot?
Gang Gang? Fox Sports? Ready, Wow, I should take my
mask off. That might actually help about to say you
gotta do radio it Fox Sports Sunday, Martin Wise, Kelvin
(55:12):
Washington on we have our masks off. We are vaccinated
that we are six ft apart sort of ish kind
of but the NBA, Kelvin. The Lakers are in talks
Region Rondo maybe coming back into the fold. Another yet
another one, another former Laker who may be a Laker again.
There's like five or six on the team currently between Baysmore, Dwhite, Howard.
(55:35):
I'm not gonna list off the rest of them. I
don't know, but it's just I hope they kept all
the same jersey numbers. So just if that if that
one guy at the Wayne Ellington jersey from back in
the day, he can still bring that back out. But
Rondo likely gonna be a Laker. We know what the
Brooklyn Nets have with Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Kevin
Durant all be should be coming back from you know,
(55:57):
relative injuries and and and be healthy and come back
to start this season whole right as hard and didn't
start the season with the Nets last year. Kyrie missed
a lot of time, Katie missed a lot of time.
This they should be good to go. Do you have
the Lakers, the Nets, or anybody else winning this NBA
Finals going forward, especially with this region Rondo news coming forward.
(56:19):
If you're the Bucks, you're sitting there like, hey, you know,
put some respect on our name, right, y'all need to
fear the deer, fear the Bucks. But the fact that
the matter is pre injury Lebron James with the m
v P, right, most people I would I would have
him at the m v P pre injury. Lebron James,
Um Anthony Davis, pre injury. They're they're showing their number
one seat in the West. You know, okay, the Lakers
(56:41):
look like the Lakers, So I still stand on that.
Now you add in a Russell Westbrook. Now you add
in a guy you just mentioned Rhndo and Dwight who
were there the championship run, who bring veteran experiences and
more importantly, know their roles and not only that they
capitalize and thrive in their roles. Right, you can know
your role Kyle Kuzma, but he couldn't really thrive in
his role. Uh. And then you makeing some special interesting pieces.
(57:03):
Malik Monk is one to me. Watch out for Malik Monk.
Most people don't know him, but that's the guy that
can come in. You only give him fifteen twenty minutes
a game and get hot and you look up like,
how do you get us from fifteen tonight? You know shot?
You know three or three from three? One of those
type of guys baysmore another guy. These guys are about
to get looks that they've never had before. Lebron is
gonna get guys looks they've never had before. Now you
(57:25):
go back to the nets. I mean that they were
like Kevin Durant, your Foot's too big away from being
in the finals exactly without a healthy squad, so I
expected to be them. To those two teams in the
it's kind of cool because you get East Coast, West Coast, Uh,
you get New York l A, you get the two.
You know, you get so many compelling storylines, right, you
(57:47):
get Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, You get Kevin Durant and
my better than Lebrian now is the torch mine and said, well, shoot,
you got me the best of me in the finals
back in the day, and I got two over you,
you know what I mean. And you get so many
stories like Lebron and Kyrie. Jay Harden was once with
Westbrooken Katie, so you get the story like the NBA
don't Yes, partner Grammar is not correcting. They don't want
(58:08):
nobody else. The NBA is pleading with the basketball guys
to give him Lakers nets. So can then we get Utah,
who was supposed to us is good in the East.
If we get Utah Sixers, nobody wants that. But what
can I interest you in Utah and the Sixers? I
just don't. I wouldn't be interested in seeing Rudy Gobert.
(58:30):
I don't mind. I don't mind mixing it up. Like
when the Heat were in the finals, I was good
with that. Like when we're seeing the Box and the
Sons in the finals, I'm good with that. I'm seeing
I'm good with seeing different matchups. I'm good with it.
But only Rudy Gobert far away from my NBA Finals basketball,
because if Terence Man can do that to you, then
I don't I don't need to see it, but I
want to hear from from from people listening eight seven
(58:52):
seven nine on Fox at eight seven seven nine, six three,
I'm sorry, six three, six nine. Who do you have
winning the n b A Finals this year coming up,
especially with the new news that the Lakers are going
to be acquiring Ray geen Rondo, who weirdly like in
the bubble, played a big role for the Lakers like
like not it wasn't obviously not their best player, obviously
(59:16):
had moments in games where he was really made a
lot of big shots and made a lot of big
things happen for the Lakers. I've really I don't know
if this is just me being dumb. I don't know
if this is what this is, If it's just me
falling in love with the same guy over and over
and over again. In spite of Doc Rivers. I feel
(59:38):
like I like to phil it offica seventies sixers because
this is what's gonna happen. They're going to make a
move Ben Simmons. He may start this. Like chances that
Ben Simmons is on the start of the on the
roster at the big game one of eighty two, probably
high game forty one of eighty two. I would be shocked.
You gotta make a move, I'd be shocked, you know
what to say? He will, but I think right now
(01:00:00):
his value he was so low they want to have
him on the NBA court. He kind of got a
plan and make sure that he can still be out there.
But I see that move happening for a dynamic point guard,
and I think that's the only thing that's been holding
Philly back in the East. If I gave you C J. McCullum,
you want you cool? No, because I want Dame come on,
But but I I think that I could probably get Dame. Yeah,
(01:00:22):
and I want to ride out of here in rolls
Royce s SUV. Well, I don't know what you do
outside of you, I don't know outside of side hustles
you got you are old TV big, But you catch
my drift. I mean Dame. You know they want Dame,
But I think c I think that's a fair. You
can add in an ancillary piece or a drafting here,
but I think that's a fair. Ben Simmons from C J. Mccullor,
because everybody we listen at certain point potential ain't ish
(01:00:46):
how many more years are we gonna talk about the
potential of Ben Simmons right right, man, I'm telling you
the potential No A, You're about to be in this
point fifth year. I'll never forget this. My cousin told
me on my twenty fifth birthday, said, this is when
they stopped judging you on potential in what you've actually done.
And I don't know if you know, I don't know
when the cutoff is in the NBA, but I would
imagine here four at that point. But there is a
(01:01:08):
stretch And the other thing about the Nets will take
your calls in just a second eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine, The Brooklyn Nets. I know, I just
set it up talking about they'll be healthy. But Kyrie
is chronically injured for sure, or chronically and a philosophy
(01:01:29):
class and doesn't want to be there. He's he's an
interesting fellow. He may he may or may not be,
you know, saying he may opt out for a couple
of days, maybe may pop off somewhere else or whatever.
James Harden, former iron Man's team, mean to have some
struggles this year with his health. Was that picture true
or not heavy and being heavy? Yeah, I don't know
if he had if he had towels. I like, because
(01:01:51):
everybody's making like he was all out of shape. I'm like,
he can't get he can't get in shape in like
three days like that. Let's go to Scott and San
Diego on Fox Sports Sunday. Yes, I I think you
guys are hitting the nail on the head talking about
the injuries the nets at what sixteen games where the
big three were all healthy I think regular season right
(01:02:14):
twelve in the regular season and then they just were
expected to kind of fly through everything. Yeah, and they're
not gonna be healthy again this year. One of them
will be out and a D has had problems four
out of five the last year's injuries towards the end
of the year, Lebron the last two or three, I
don't I think one of those two is gonna be
hurt too, So I think he'll be lucky if if
(01:02:34):
all the odds against all those guys being healthy at
the same time or are pretty spectacular, I think it'll
be whoever is healthy. It probably will be those two teams.
He appreciate the cost. Scott. By the way, you can
tweet us to kub live for myself Martin Wise from Martin,
I hear the injuries, and I concur I mean, there's
no denying that. Lebron, you stop talking about iron Man.
I mean he would put him in the dictionary. But
(01:02:54):
I actually have the other iron Man and two and
the Russell Westbrook. So I think that takes a load
off an Davis load management pun intended and Lebron a
Lebron scale it back something usually going thirty three four minutes.
Let's scare you back to thirty minutes, or hey, let's
have the no. I want to show everybody I play
every night. Bro Bro you Lebron, you cemented, maybe man,
have a little seat, bra sit on down. We're trying
(01:03:15):
to get you in a year twenty something, so you
can play with Brownie, your son. So I have a seat.
Russell is gonna play the next night, you know, him
and a D or a D have a seat. We've
got Lebron and a D going, I mean going. That's
a huge advantage to me having two super three superstars
like that, as you can always sit one down and
try to at least manage the health, manage the time
because that the Lebron's If Lebron load management, I don't
(01:03:38):
think any of us would judge them at this point, right,
He's well passed that he's not load managing when he
was in his first room with Cleveland. Okay, at this point,
bro have a seat and then fascinating to me that
that Lebron can take a seat, and then you're just
gonna have Russell Westbrook just exactly with the full keys,
full gas, no breaks, do your thing back home to
It's gonna be fascinating to watch Lakers nets are the
(01:04:00):
rhets we want to hear from you. After What's trendy?
From Steve Sager eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox,
Who do you have? Winning the NBA Finals With the
news that Rey Genron that will be joining the Los
Angeles Lakers. Will the Lakers do it? Well? The Nests
do it? Do you have the field eight seven, seven
ninety nine of Fox Steve. Let's get to the NFL
exhibition news is This ends the preseason mercifully in New
(01:04:22):
England with a twenty win at the Giants. Giants missed
a late two point pass. After the game, New England
coach Bill Belichick was asked if he'd made a decision
on a starting quarterback yet. His answer, no, we still
have a lot of decisions to make tonight. Cam Newton
was two of five passing for ten yards with one interception.
The final game on the slate is at halftime now
(01:04:43):
Cleveland ten three leaders at Atlanta, Baker Mayfield did start,
had a touchdown pass. He was six and ten a
hundred thirteen yards. Among the earlier games, San Francisco and
Miami were winners. Jacksonville one at Dallas thirty four fourteen.
Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence was eleven of twelve a hundred
thirty nine yards, two touchdowns in three possessions. Ravens starting
(01:05:03):
running back J K. Dobbins is out for the year.
With a torn a c l he was hurting the
preseason finale for that team. Last night. Washington officially named
Ryan Fitzpatrick as it starting QB. The Colts name quarterback
Jacob Eason as their backup starter. Carson Wentz will practice tomorrow.
The Saints, whose home exhibition yesterday was canceled due to
the hurricane, will practice in Dallas this week. Minnesota gave
(01:05:25):
safety Harrison Smith a four year extension worth over twenty
six million dollars guaranteed. Viking starting tight end RB Smith
will have knee surgery in the Sunday night ball game
on an air. The Yankees have tied it up one
one at Oakland in the top of the seventh inning. Earlier,
Boston blew a late lead and lost seven five at Cleveland,
while Tampa Bay won its seventh straight game twelve eight
(01:05:45):
at Baltimore. The Raiser first in the Al East. They
started the day five games over the Yankees. Earlier, it
was Miami a to one winner against Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh
on a late homer beat St. Louis for three. Michigan
won the Little League World Series. Back to you, Thanks Stephen.
Shout out to Michigan for winning the men the Little
League World Series. Yeah, and not to mention they beat Ohio.
(01:06:09):
You know how they're to smoke, you know how the
smoke is real there. I would say at least one
team from Michigan could be the team, right Martin White
Calvin on Fox Sports Sunday to Michigan guys personally in
Michigan grad who since starting my lead just to the
University of Michigan in two thousand and eight, have witnessed
exactly one victory over Ohio State. It's been all bad, bro,
(01:06:29):
But I got you by some years a little older
than you, so you know, I was able to remember
the days where for the most part, Michigan win Ohio
State was a very formidable folks. So you would have
some you know, some ales there, but not where Now
I can't even get excited. My boys are trying to
hype me up. Oh man, I'm bro. I don't have
no I have no excitement for Michigan coming up. But
(01:06:50):
we're talking Lakers and the Nets are the rest. The
Lakers are about to require Rijon Rondo all reports for
seeming to indicate and it just has has way too early.
Who's winning this title? We want to know. Let's go
to Scott in Arkansas. You're on Fox Sports Sunday. Hey, guys,
how you doing. What's going on? Brother good? I'm excited
for the Lakers. Not a Liker fan in the past,
(01:07:12):
but when they signed Monk, I'm I'm a fan of
his and I think I'm I'm very excited to see
what people. Uh I think he could do, you know,
I mean he can really shoot it. Wait wait wait
wait wait wait wait wait wait wait? How are you?
Why are you a fan of Malik Monk? His mother
and his probably a girlfriend are only people who are
like hyper fans of Malik. But why are you a
fan of Lik Monk? Like that? Did he go to
the high school or something? Uh? He went to my
(01:07:33):
played with my son. Yes, I know, I knew it. Listen,
I listen. I know the game, Scott. I know the
game because nobody said I'm a fan League Monk like
the way in which you did it. Yeah, well he's
I mean, I think he's got talented people. Just having
been able to save you in Charlotte and I'll tell
you what to Thanks for the cost, Scott, and stay
dried down there in Arkansas, brother, But alright, man, but
(01:07:55):
Malik Monk, Malik Monk, he's uh, he's pretty accurate. Like
great shooter. Man. Listen, that was a sleeper pick right there,
and all the pickups because you got a guy who's
young enough, athletic enough, and can kind of unconscious, you
know what I mean. You need that guy. Hey, hey,
I'm coming in, I'm shooting. I'm trying to score. And
I hope that he will be not the guy who
(01:08:16):
just looks at the brawn like what you want me
to do? You know? He gives me the vibes of
a Tyler Hero when the heat we're making their finals run,
right when he had like and it's of the attitude, right,
like the guy like Tyler Hero was making faces and
he was like, I don't give a damn who's in
front of me? Right? And now did it last the
entire playoff structure? No? Right, But it got them to
(01:08:37):
where they needed to try to get to. That's all
you need. If you, Monk, give us one year, because
one year, get another ring. You can go on back
to Arkansas and hang with Scott because at the end
of the day, you know the Milikue Monk is not
gonna be the guy driving this car, like Tyler Hero
was not supposed to be driving the car that was
supposed to be going bam and Jimmy and Jimmy Butler.
And you know that out of your fourth or fifth
player in the rotation, is good to have a guy
(01:08:58):
with a little sneer to him, a little attitude to
and especially a guy who can shoot from outside. Dang,
that's what was supposed to be Dennis Shrewder. Continue, man,
it's so hard to feel bad about somebody who just
got six million dollars. Talk about updating the LinkedIn page
his agent. It's updating his LinkedIn page right now. Now,
(01:09:18):
wait a minute. I heard a rumor that apparently the
Lakers never officially offered him four million dollars. It was
kind of a conversation, I guarantee you. Maybe it wasn't
an official facts to do them, but there were conversations
where you know, like, look all right, what we're looking
at is what you let us know. And he gabbled
on himself, which hey he did. It happens all the time.
(01:09:40):
Where were big up players. Oh man, look again, but
on theself worked out? Well, I didn't work out in
this case. Are you know. I mean, you should only
gamble on yourself if you have good odds. David and
Palm Springs here on Fox Sports Sunday, what's going on?
Many great guy having a good Sunday, gentlemen. I went
a weigh in on the Lakers and Nets. Um. You know,
(01:10:03):
I'm excited if it happens. I hope it does. People
are talking about injuries, and I think they're sort of
underrating Lebron because the injury he had last year had
nothing to do with him and what kind of shape
he was in. It had to do with someone putting
all their body weight on him. And I think those
injuries carry into next year. Just if it was Zion,
(01:10:24):
the same thing would have happened. He would have been
the same till next year. And I think if this happens,
I give I would give the advantage to the Lakers
in three different categories. I think the gap between what
the potential offenses for the Lakers with adding Russfoock and
the Nets offense is smaller than the huge gap in defense.
(01:10:44):
For one, I think there's a huge gap in mental toughness,
and there's also a leader who's better at doing it
through know how than anybody. I think if you had
Lebron James on that Oklahoma City team and you took
the rat off it, they would have won two titles.
So I'm really excited about the Lakers and hopefully they
are broke healthy. But it's a huge difference in defense
(01:11:07):
and it's a smaller difference in offense between the two,
and that means a lot call there. I appreciate it, Dave,
Thanks for the call, David. David had some strong points there. Uh,
Dave hanging out and Paul Springs, I know he had
a cool tile on his neck right now, so hot
out there, um, but interesting, Yeah, I mean that, look Lebron.
And by the way, everybody else is saying that Wonder
brought west Russell Westbrook Canny play with Lebron. Here's my
(01:11:29):
theory on that. When Lebron had everyone's like, oh, he's
so ball centric. Well, Kyrie Irving is, well he can
shoot yet, but Kyrie Irving pet, then I might shoot Pet,
then I might go to hold you know what I mean. Like,
and if you go back and watch those NBA Finals,
especially the year they won, Kyrie was taking it to
the whole dribble, drible dribble, dribble to the whole as
Charles Barker, and so Lebron actually needs a Kyrie Russell
(01:11:54):
Westbrook type of guy, Dwayne Wade. You know why he
needs that type of guy because every now and again,
Lebron needs somebody who's gonna look at hi him and say, no,
I actually had the advantage. I got it, not for real, no,
like no, no, I'm good. Because everybody else needs to
be set up and be fed you. Lebron needs somebody
who Kyrie back into Cleveland dates was like, I'm going
at Steph point blank period. And sometimes you need that
(01:12:16):
because sometimes what happens is the Laker players or Cleveland
players or Miami outside of the Wade, they get used
to being so spoon fed that when it's time for
them to cook up the mill, they don't know how
to shoot what I got. And Kyle Kuzman look like
you forgot to play basketball in the last couple of
years right as a kid to three years ago. He
might be putting the twenty five game in the league.
(01:12:39):
But I don't blame him because Lebron, when you play
with him, put you in the spot where you're like, oh, shoot,
I need it now, I don't know. Wait, wish I
shoot it out right, It's only four a second. Kyrie
d Wade knew when it was there, trying to co
excuse me, watch out. And Russell Westbrook has that demeanor
as we all know, there's gonna be sometimes in their
bump has it's eighty two games season, They're gonna look
at each other, gonna roll eyes, They're gonna be mad
at each other. But Russell Westbrook has that attitude of
(01:12:59):
b I had the advantage. I was on the break.
I took it what I missed it and made it
and every now and again, Yo, that's the right move
even though somebody missed it. Let's go to Jeff and Indiana.
You're on Fox Sports Sunday. What's going on? Brother? Hey,
what's up? Guys? I appreciate you go both state Church
all right? Hey, um, how in the world is Roger
(01:13:19):
Rondo still in the league? God blessing, but come on, man,
five point seven whatever points the game. He is the
Rod Harper of the Chicago Bulls for the l A Lakers.
He's turning into that. Why is he still being signed?
What am I missing here? And that's my question appreciate, Jeff,
(01:13:40):
I hear you the thing that I but the thing
when you hear other people talk about ray Gion Rondo,
and you think you hear other players talk about Rondo,
you hear recently retired players talk about Rondo. Every single
one of them, to a t is going to sing
his praises about how good of a teammate, he smartest,
(01:14:00):
how smart he is, how how tough he is, how
he's holding people accountable. And in basketball, I feel like
you have enough roster spots and spots on the court
that you can have a guy who may not be
You could have a Jared Dudley on your team and
win a championship, Whereas if you are in the NFL,
you're probably gonna need your backup roster spot. Every roster
(01:14:23):
spot matters because guys go down like like flies. You
just mentioned it. You took the words out of my mouth,
or rather I should say the name I need. We
need to call it the Jared Dudley seat, like where
you're never gonna play. You inspire every guy who was
decent in high school to think they got a shot
in the NBA because they look at Jared Dudley and
they say he's in the NBA, surely I have a chance.
(01:14:43):
He is a little Yahti of the NBA. If you
don't know who Little Yaddi is, for those of you
are maybe a breast to all the hip hop. Little
Yahti is the person that keeps forty two year olds
in the garage trying to still wrapp in the mama's basement, right,
because they I can do it, and they need to
name that the Jared w Award that he can do
it because Jared Dudley ain't had to cut bo bo.
(01:15:04):
You look like Arnold Swarzenegger compared to Jared Dudley. Okay,
so Jared Dudley and I love the guy. He seems
like you talking about another person that they sing the
praises of. Now that he just officially is gonna be
an assistant coach, everyone talking about how they're gonna miss someone.
A d said it, Lebron said it, No, not my
man going. But to your point, Rondo, what he brings
(01:15:24):
and very few people bring it for Lebron James, this
is what I just mentioned a moment ago. He's the
rare player that Lebron feels like I can walk away
and have a coffee with and we can have your
on my level of i Q. You're one of the
very few people I can say, what about this game?
But what if we do it like this? What I'm
liking this against this team. He's one of the very
few people that can check Lebron can talk to talk.
(01:15:46):
We're gonna do this. We're supposed to run his own
to the d and Lebron will be like, you're right,
You're right, You're right. He's one of the very few
people Lebron can roll out of ball and say, man,
for this five minute stretch. I'm not saying you need
to increasingly by twelve run the offense. Who else can
run the offense with the Lakers when le Bron goes
out and it's been a sad site to see when
he goes out, we all hold on our breath. And
(01:16:07):
Rondo's that one guy that you can say, run it,
hold it down for four or five minutes. Even if
we break even, I'll be back. I mean either way, Ray,
Jean Rondo, Russell Westbrook, Lebron, James, and Anthony Davis all
in the same locker room. None, that's man, they gotta
hold That squad is insane. It's gonna be I mean,
no matter what happens on the basketball court where they go,
(01:16:28):
oh for eighty two or two on oh, it's gonna
be incredibly fun to the entire time. Martin Wise, Kelvin Washington,

know about you. Don't know how big of a baseball
guy you are. Well, you know I do work with
sports in that l A here in l A with
the Dodgers. I was just gonna give you the opportunity
to humble practice. I appreciate that, you know what I mean?
This is good a u CP three me I, Blake
(01:17:10):
Griffin did I appreciate that? Man? I wanted to get
to Lebron Dwayne Wade like that. That's That's all somebody
needs to make that n f T if it's not already,
uh no, I got definitely. I mean it's it's it's
a unique sport and that it's very regional for the
most part, meaning like if you live in l A,
you're you still may watch the NFL and be excited
(01:17:31):
for the you know, Cowboys and the Browns, you know
what I mean. Where it's baseball historically, you love your
team and that's about it. Obviously, every now and again Yankees,
Red Sox. So I've been enjoying watching and being part
of the Dodgers for sure. Obviously last season winning and
in this season um getting back to where it looks
like they could be trying to repeat for a championship. Well,
a team that the Dodgers have been smacking around recently
(01:17:54):
they have. The New York Mets were in first place
in the NL for three straight months and then everything
just kind of came apart right the eighteen I mean
eight and nineteen in August, they went in two and
eleven against the Giants and the Dodgers in the RecA stretch. Right,
they made a mid season acquisition of Hobby Bayaz, who
(01:18:14):
did you see five days ago he swung at a pitch.
Did you see that? I mean, that was that was
egregiously bad. I had actually bet against the Mets for that,
and I was just like, I definitely know him on
the right side of this smart smart move. Uh yeah,
he and he the talented guy, swagged out guy if
you will. Well, honestly one of my favorite players to
watch him up there with, like Tim mannis I like
(01:18:36):
the guys who have fun. Oh what he and he
just he brings, like I said, a swagger to the
position into the game. He was just like, man, he's
got he's got it. He got has that factor. So
today he hit the bomb four hundred forty yards. Uh yeah,
the four and forty feet rather the Mets win nine
to four. And after the game, I mean after he
hit his home run, he's he's doing his little home
one tried. He crossed his home plate and he does
(01:18:57):
it thumbs down, which we've seen before in baseball right there.
Randomly sometimes you'll see, uh, guys will hit the double
and their own second base and they'll do some type
of hand saying, especially in the postseason. Daughters do a
whole lot to do a lot of that, right, So
you see the thumbs down and reporters asked by As
about it after the game, and this is what he
had to say. Not much change. We're gonna struggle, you know,
(01:19:19):
we're gonna We're gonna We're gonna struggle seven times out
of ten. And and you know, it just it just
feels bad when when when we strike, when I strike
out and I get booed, you know, it doesn't really
get to me. But like I want to, I want
to let them know that when we says we're gonna
do the same thing, to to know how to to
let them know how how it feels, you know, because
if we were together, then we gotta loose together, you know.
(01:19:40):
And and and the fans are really big part of it.
So um in my cage, they gotta be better. You know,
I'll played for the fans, and I love the fans,
but you know, if if they're gonna do that, they
just put it more pressures on the team. And and
that's not that's not what we want. Yeah, there's too
much cap and his rap for me, I don't get.
It doesn't get to you. So that's why that's why
(01:20:02):
you acknowledge when you have success. Yeah, look, man, I'm
all for the first thing he said was, we're not machines,
were human. And I think in the last couple of
years we've gone a bit far with sympathy, empathy, and
what I mean by that is mental health. We're starting
(01:20:23):
to use that in and everything you know, and so
you can use this. He didn't say it, but you
could use this. Look, my mental health is I'm struggling
right now. I'm in a bad stretch. You just mentioned.
We're two and eleven. I just got to this new
environment and you guys are booing us. Well. Part of
being a fan, part of it is you're allowed to do.
Part of being a player is you should expect booze,
(01:20:43):
not understand coming from your own team against challenging and
difficult from their own fans. But the fact of the
matter is that's why you have a few extra zeros
on your check then the rest of us, right, that's
just part of the game. You suck it up, uh,
And I can understand you know you're struggling and it
doesn't help, but man, you gotta take the ail, right,
you gotta you gott what what it wants. The answer
to everything we allays say when yeah, because exactly when
(01:21:04):
they were when when the Mets were first place and
at least they wasn't happening, they weren't getting booed. But
and also that you were a big mid season acquisition.
But just my whole thing is this. The reason why
sports exists in the way that it does is fans, fans, fans, fanatics.
The reason why everybody's makes the money he makes is
because people are paying to go see him play. That's
(01:21:27):
what people are paying for the rights to watch him
play on TV. That's why this whole thing exists. No,
he's gotta he's gotta suck he's gotta suck that up.
I mean, there you listen. As difficult as it is,
but that's what That's part of the game. Literally, that's
part of the game. Playing in any sport, you're going
to get booed, cheered, and jeered. That's just a part
of it. Also, it's mad corny. It's super corny to
(01:21:47):
do that. Like, go ahead, be rich and don't worry
about us. Martin wich Chulvin watching Fox Sports Sunday. That's right,
Martin Wish joined here with my main man k dub
Live Kelvin Washington on Fox Sports Sunday an hour three
even having a bless k How are you doing, bro? Yeah, actually, man,
I's been a great one. We got some a little
bit of football. I know it's fake football, but it's
(01:22:08):
football in front of us. The Cleveland Browns up thirteen
and three over the Atlanta Falcons. By the way, last game, uh,
the preseason that God getting back to Jesus, Sager said, mercifully.
This is the last preseason game and we will be
getting to the real thudding soon that burning. But Josh
Rosen is out there and it actually leads me to
the conversation when I have before we get there, I
(01:22:29):
do want to say, Man, I'm gonna imagine there's hearts
and prayers go out to everybody. I know you're from
New Orleans, that is the home area for you. Everybody
experiencing hurricanes and tropical storms, whether it be you know,
an actual hurricane or just the storms that are happening
all over the east and southeast right now. Um even
some of the South and part of the western is
part of the country as well, and so you know,
(01:22:51):
thoughts and prayers to them, and also to those who
maybe have lost someone over there in Afghanistan. It got
very real and very scary over the last few days,
so definitely, and you know acknowledge that what's going on,
and which is why obviously you and I get to
come in here and have a little fun and and
kind of be a distraction for a little bit from
what's happening in the real world. But looking at Josh
Rosen was supposed to be chosen. Rosen when he was
at U c l A. Was supposed to be the guy, right,
(01:23:13):
he was chosen. He was chosen, all right, but now
he is uh hoping to be chosen because he might
not make this roster for the Falcons. But he got
me thinking about these young quarterbacks in the NFL. And
obviously Josh Rosen was supposed to be highly touted and
supposed to be the guy didn't really work out for him. Um,
but there's some other guys. What are you liking right now? Man?
Justin Fields? Uh, Matt Naggy is saying Andy Dalton will
(01:23:36):
be there Week one starter against the Rams, maybe because
it is the Rams and Aaron Donald and and and
their offensive line has been struggling to a t hasn't
been great. You know, one Justin Fields get his head
blown off by Aaron Donald and I could have something
to do with it. We've seen justin fields take some
we say these games don't count, and so we've seen
(01:23:57):
justin fields and taking some hits that in not an
NFL player, But I followed a couple on Twitter and
they'll do a little breakdowns, and my my good friend
Jeff Schwartz broke down this whole reason why it was
a justin fields thing. It wasn't like he didn't read
the protection properly. He didn't throw the ball to his
hot route and that's why he had a linebacker helmet
up under his chin, right, and so like there's some
(01:24:18):
things that he's gonna have to figure out in that regard.
And I think that's just kind of like and I
know he said the game was slow, like slower for
him than it was, but there's gonna be moments in
which he's going to the process and cognitively get out
of doubt. And I think what he meant was you
always hear people say what's the number one thing that
to translate it was the hard it's the speed of
the game. I think that's what. I don't think he
meant like it was slow. I think he meant Okay.
(01:24:40):
If all I've ever heard for the last five six
years of my life was that, I was like, all right,
that wasn't too bad. I give an example, right, you
and I in the field that we're in, you know,
oh man, you know maybe it's you know, coming in
and now the brakes are harder doing this on TV?
Is the teleprompters the beast When you're doing and you
come in, You're like, all right, I'm not saying it's easy,
but it's like it's manageable. I get it. Okay, all right,
wasn't the world most thing I ever thought? I think
(01:25:01):
that's what he was just trying to apply. Not like, man,
they slow, they don't want to see me fair And
I think he was just saying that wasn't I belong
when it comes to the speed of the game, is
what he was thought. I what I interpreted, Um, he's
looked good. He's a great We already know. We just
mentioned the speed and the ability athletic, but it's just
big arm and I think his teammates are looking like
Andy who and see that's I really think that the
(01:25:23):
reason why Because I was actually on the radio the
day that he took that that had hit where everybody
was like, yo, Justin Fields looks exactly like he did
in Ohio State. And I was one of the people
champion in it. But I said, he's not gonna start
week one because here's and and and it's a little counterintuitive,
but it makes sense if you just take this walk
with me. Okay, I'm ready, let's do it. The Bears,
(01:25:44):
despite having like relative postseason, they've they've made the postseason
a few times. They they you know, they're being a
wild card conversation, but they're never They're not a contender
right there. Not then, so as long as they had
Mitchell Drobisky, they were not a real true contender. But
he was worried about him. The seats were hot even
though they had a relative you know, they were in
the playing Matt Nagy see kind of had after after
(01:26:04):
winning Coach of the Years. She was a little warm.
If they started Justin Fields day one, like season one,
episode one of the Justin Fields show, he's got no curveball.
If he goes on four, he just gets fired. Right.
If he starts Andy Dalton and they go on four,
(01:26:24):
are they going three instead of fire? To coach, the
conversation is why are you starting Andy Dalton? Right? So
then you just pulling Andy Dalton and then you can
then you can you could, you could, you could, You
could buoy on that hope of Justin Fields for the
next fourteen weeks, thirteen weeks or twelve weeks or ever
long however time you buy and if he looks good enough,
(01:26:46):
Matt Nay, you might be you might not be putting
that for sales. Sign up, right, I did what you're saying,
break in case of emergency. Right, you got Justin Fields
just sitting there, and we know emergency is going to occur. Right,
We've seen the Andy Dalton movie before. We know how
it ends. Yeah, without a doubt. I mean Justin Fields
is going to be the guy. So as you mentioned,
just a matter of when, uh, it might and to
be honest with you, it might be come back week two.
(01:27:08):
Like let's just get the week one out, get the experience.
We got everything flowing and gi him another week of
practice and he get right to it. Because listen, Justin
Fields is exactly what you want and might and might.
Let me also add, we had a lot of success
these young guys in in the NFL. Now, right, guys
are coming in. You're like, oh, man, you know, I
don't know, uh Patrick Mahomes, dak Press, Scott. I mean,
(01:27:29):
I could go on and on these young Kyle Kylin Murray.
By the way, we don't talk about Kylin Murray enough
for me. Man, We don't talk about him enough. Man.
And now he's got a legitimate weapon over there and
outside to DeAndre Hopkins, listen, Man's of the odd couple
will know that I was on the Kyler Murray train
last year and I wanted it. I wanted it so bad.
(01:27:49):
Like me and Chris and Rob will argue back and
forth about it every every Thursday. They were trying to
get me to take some terrible bet. They don't understand
how gambling works, right. They wanted me to better pair
of shoes. It's like, no, I'll just go to Vegas
with the same hunt of dollars I can bet you
and buy eight pairs of shoes if it happens. You
know what that's like, you know, just it's kind of
how math works. But but but but I don't believe
(01:28:11):
in Cliff Kingsbury in the scheme enough for Kyler to
be ultimately successful. Well that means so the reason I
brought them because I don't want to go too far
off fields. Was that these young guys are coming in
and being successful. Justin Herbert, I mean band right off
the bat, you're like, oh, shoot, this dude looking like
there's gonna be a pro bowler next year with this
this upcoming season. So the young guys are Josh Allen,
(01:28:34):
even Mitchell Robinski. If you look at if you fell
from Mars and you just looked at his record, you're
gonna be like, oh shoot, like yeah, he was a baller.
I mean, you know, we all know he wasn't great.
My point is guys are having success early. So for me,
if I'm at Naggi, part of me is like, man,
what am I even waiting for? Guys are coming in.
You just mentioned that there's somehow their team between the
defense guys are back healthy. Uh, they got a nice
(01:28:56):
running game, and now you have some explosives of the
quarterback position. To me, you might as well get started
and see what this thing could actually because it might
be the opposite instead of well we'll just coast and
you never know, you might mess r and go. You
saw was a tenant in the thirteen and three something
crazy record, so you could have something from the jump,
is my point, because we've seen that justin Herbert. They
(01:29:19):
lost games and wasn't his fought they lost, they said,
like a record for most games one day. You want
to talk about and Anthony Lynn and the Chargers last year,
Oh my god, I was bad Anthony Lynn. I root
for the brother and everything. But man, you talk about
not being present minded at the end of the game
regularly like on not like a bad moment where it
(01:29:41):
happens and then and I know, I know you're not
a big game. They all they every single decision impacted
the spread, every single one of them, like the idea
that that where the two yard line and they have
to he was running the path the oleventive line in
the past, like the quarterbacks run of the run play.
It was no, it was They had some embarrassing moments
(01:30:03):
they didn't know if they're going for Phil Gold that
they had a lot. But my point is, again I reiterate,
these young guys are having a lot of success right
out the bat. Right Patrick Mahomes, Oh, let's see, I
don't really know Boom Dak Prescott right off the bat.
I mean you can just almost it's you're harder. I
think even Sam Donald, who looked good in a couple
of preseason moments, and but he was with the Jets.
(01:30:23):
You put them in a better situation to what comes
out looks pretty solid, not great, but solid. So Justin
fields to me, I'm not, I'm not. I guess I'm
not wasting time with the antidote experiment. Nah, bro, I'd
rather have Andy Dolton in there for when Justin is
either hurt or if he needs to just sit down
for a minute, you know, the second half one you'r
you know, this first half just wasn't your to sit
on the second half of you know, we'll come back
(01:30:44):
next game and get it started. I'm ready to get
that train started. And if I'm the teammates and player,
I'm like, hey, hey, what we're waiting for? And I'll
tell you what another train that seems like it's about
to get started. Matt Jones is I At this point,
I think Matt Jones is going to be the starting
quarterback in New England Week one. And I know, just
just a couple of hours ago, I said I didn't
(01:31:05):
think that was the case. But in a few hours,
Bill Belichick's done another postgame press conference, and then that
press game press conference, you said, do you have have
you made the decision on starting quarterback and he said no,
we still have a lot of decisions to make. And
I just more and more. I just think that if
Kim was gonna be the guy, he would have been
the guy by now. Well, but it might be what
(01:31:25):
you said in the sense of he is the guy.
I just know at some point the guy is gonna
be restricted because of COVID again maybe Lord well, and
he doesn't contract it, but he was around, you know,
he got it. Has the quarantine town now it's almost inevitable,
and we know they're disincentivized if you're not vaccine vaccinated
because you're gonna miss more time you get than the
(01:31:47):
other guy thinks you gotta miss ten days, where versus
the other guys like five days whatever. It is like
it's less time when you are or or aren't vaccinated.
The time changes and the rules are different. So I
think it's a matter of what you said. I think
I a Cam Newton gives you a better chance to
win off the bat, just purely based off you know,
I've watched and I know it's just preseason football, and
(01:32:09):
I know it doesn't really count, but like even today,
Kim is like doing things like skipping the ball to
receivers on out routes. Like it's like, I don't know,
I used to be there with you. I used to
be that Cam's giving you the better chance to win.
And I understand that this preseason. I understand that it's vanilla,
and I understand these coverages aren't real and it's it's
this and it's that, and it's this and it's that.
(01:32:30):
But just looking at it from me, you know, my untrained,
died Matt Jones looks like a better quarterback than Cam Newton.
And watch this though he probably is a better quarterback,
but Cam Newton again, the way he plays, ability to run,
having been there already, just the ability to change, you
know this the third and three, screw it, I'll just
(01:32:51):
run it gives you a chance to win. And that's
why I said. Even if you look at last year's
he had games was horrible. They were like fifty yards,
yet they either want or end the game. He just
because he's one of those guys again you just look
up and you're like, how are we not blowing out
the Patriots. How are they only down three with the ball?
Could win this thing? He just keeps you in it. Uh,
And not to mention that defense, Bill Bill Belichick and
(01:33:11):
the way he's you know, he it's hard to you
for you to thrive against him as an opposing quarterback.
I just feel like they could be all right, we
got a chance to win. But if they want to,
I guess the point is, if you're Bill Belichick, do
you feel like starting over and maybe waiting another two years?
Do you have that in you at this age, at
this point in your career? So I wonder do you
think that Bill Belichick feels that starting Mac Jones just
(01:33:32):
starting over? Like you know what I'm saying. I think
that he was. He was willing to move on from
Tom Brady, right because all all accounts, Tom did not
want to leave initially, once the conversations turned into like,
hold on a second, you're gonna treat me like i'm
something like I'm just a backup middle linebacker. All right,
I'll go somewhere where they like, where they care about
me a little bit more, where they shine my shoes
(01:33:53):
a little bit brighter, Okay, because I'm Tom Damn Brady
he is right, and so like, when you're gonna treat
me like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm Julian Edelman. We're not.
This ain't gonna work out, Okay, I'm not like. So
I think that was what happened, even when all the
one up went all the way up to Robert Krafts
and tried to like and he was just like, you know,
you know, Bill's team, and so he's like, all right,
I'll go down and you know, go to Tampa. Well,
(01:34:15):
I mean there's a but I think that's also a
pride and ego thing, right at a certain point. All
the sports marriages, that is, they kind of end like that,
you know, and it rarely doesn't end off perfectly and dreamy.
It usually ends and then and then we see the
magic Johnson Isaziana time and sit down and they hug
each other then cry it out. Yeah, there'll be the
(01:34:36):
Bill Belichick Tom Brady thirty for thirty and ten fifteen
years when they sit down and they hug it out,
they thug it out and it ends up being all good's.
It'll be interesting to see. It will be interesting to see.
But I I just wonder I think that Bill Belichick.
I feel like he's one of those guys. He's one
of like he's like Sean Payton. He's like, I want
to show you how smart I am, which I mean, hey,
(01:34:58):
you're really really smart. You know, you're really really smart.
And I think that he's like out of this whole class.
I could just see it, man. And you know the
other thing too, Mac Jones is gonna be able to
do what like the the basic level of quarterbacking, like
you were right, the level of Kim could just pick
the ball up and scramble on third and three and
call it a day. But mac Jones is gonna be
able to fill what Bill Belichick wants him to do well,
(01:35:21):
like the same way that he did exactly what nix
Haban wanted him to do. Like you just go do
your jobs that you just go get the ball to
the guys who are nice. Okay, just do that. Yeah,
I get there. By the way, don't sleep just don't
sleep in the Patriots. All I'm saying that, just don't
sleep on the Patriots again. Last year was weird. You
have guys missing COVID. Then you also had guys who
chose to opt out, which a lot of their best
(01:35:41):
defenders did that. Just don't sleep on the Patriots, and
then that's the reason why you don't celebrate there. If
you're watching this game, Atlanta player linebacker looked like I
got an interception. Start holding the ball out, run and celebrate.
Somebody don be beat him and came from the back
and knocked it out. I'm excited to talk to Alex Monica,
your friend hosted the Money Line of Monica on the
Volume Sports Network. We're gonna talk to him next because you,
(01:36:02):
my friends, you just mentioned a few times during the show.
You're a Mr You, Mr Gamble, Mr holl that me
if you want to make a couple of bucks, and
so I'm interested. I'm I'm I have a couple of
dollars to put down and I want to see where
he tells me I should put some money on to
make some money. Let's do it. We'll do that next.

(01:36:45):
I feel like that's one of those things that they
say just to cover, Like, you know what I'm saying
that there may be one person somewhere out there that
like that, like you know, the hands, there might be
a germ out there one place that they don't know
about you the one you know, it's just the ninety nine.
That's that's the one. I just want to know who
that was. That's all I'm saying. All Right, we're away
with my boy, Alex Monico Moneyline Monico from the Volume
Sports Network. Alex, how you doing today? Mar and Kelvin,
(01:37:08):
Let's talk to him. Nfel Baby, I'm fired up on
a Sunday night. You got me triple tipping. I'm live
betting right now on boxing. I got a fantasy draft
going on screen too, and I'm talking a little boys
on the money. Do you have a clone? What I mean?
How are what? How are you doing this? Bro? This
is what we do, man, we spend places. I'm over
I'm over here, Peyton manning at the huddle. Omaha, I'm
(01:37:31):
ready to call read to react. Let's dance. I just
took Cleveland's defense round flow, and then you know it's real.
We're taking these preseason games, last one at that. How
many monsters are rebels? Have you had thus far? Dude,
believe it or not. Man, this is this is seven
years of morning meditation and a little bit of stretching
my hamstrings. Now that I'm there my thirties. Man, that's
(01:37:51):
all after Watty, I just hit forty last week. Kelvin,
I'll tell you just real quick. Alex Monica from Volume
Sports net Work, you know, running the things with Colin Calherd.
He's got in Vegas. Last week Alex and I started
working together. First thing we did together was a live
stream of the playing game Lakers and the Warriors. And
(01:38:12):
you think he's hype up now, we were both on
the Lakers side. Can you imagine when Lebron hit the
three with his eyes closed? No? I could. That was, honestly, Martin.
Of all the streams of the games, we like that,
that had to be the best one. Man. First one
out the gate. You and I are over here jumping
and with sweating like Castanza. At least I was now, well,
(01:38:34):
we appreciate you joining us. Man. I told Martin, I'm
not I'm not a big gambler. It's not my thing.
I get mad if I lose money. But but I
was telling them. Lee came into Producer and I was
telling my look, man, I don't know. I don't know
if I'm doing fantasy. Was like, if I do involved,
I want to put a little couple of bucks on
something and that that way I can get, you know,
get active a little bit. So I need you to
(01:38:54):
help me out here, Alex. If a start with we
week one and I want to get my feet wet
into this world. What is a safe bet? Almost a
guarantee bet. I know nothing is guaranteed, but you know
what I mean, where I can say, hey, I'm gonna
take this fifty bucks hunter bucks, whatever it is, and
I can make some cash. I mean, Calvina, we're talking
Week one spreads. I'm over here staring on Fandel which
(01:39:17):
is the which is the book I shot? How do
we not take Tom Tom Camp of Brady Little minus
six and a half before Dak Prescott may may not
be daying Monica Cy. This is why you're my guy.
I literally, I literally was looking over these lines ten
seconds ago. It was and I said, I said, I
don't understand how the bucket, how the Cowboys are getting
(01:39:39):
six and a half. I think the Buccaneers are gonna
roll that game. They don't have a quarterback. I mean,
I'm telling you, man, we'll watch the hard knocks. The
best thing about the series is the three minute throne
shot in episode three. So then, what do you make
of that thing? What do you what are you making?
What are the wise guys doing? I mean, I think
obviously it's it's a little bit of faith the Cowboys
(01:39:59):
at the woman. I mean, they can't even beat Jacksonville
earlier today, it's abysmal, But you gotta look at a
little bit of the status here. I mean, it's it's
crazy to sit here and say that the first time
ever in the history of the NFL that a Super
Bowl team that wins returns all twenty two stars. I mean,
we got Brady sended Breeze in the freakings, del Bokavis
(01:40:20):
the Phase four retirement. He got the number one competitor
out of the division and smooth sailing number one rush
defense that gave up eighty yards on the ground, that
bring it. I mean, I dare you to run into
Suze lane and it ain't gonna happen. And Tommy Tampa.
Just so you know, Calvin Martin, he's only thrown forty
touchdowns or more twice in his Hall of Fame career.
(01:40:43):
Once and oh seven when he put up a Yarnest
fifty nugget and they didn't win the Super Bowl, and
then last year when he had forty. So I just
think this team rolls over Dallas. They're gonna need a
few weeks to get going. And Tommy Tampa, I mean,
look what he did last year without a training camp,
without a preseason. Now we's got a whole offseason. Everyone's
coming back. I got small sick of that. So so
(01:41:04):
let me ask you this thing, because you're talking, you're
talking real spicy about you know about Tampa. Time here
plus twelve hundred for Tom Brady to win the regular season?
M v P. Is that your pick? Are you? Are
you liking somebody else? This never happens, Kelvin, It never happens.
But I gotta go with my boy State Farm, residual school,
(01:41:24):
or just counts double check Aaron Rodgers. I mean, looking,
look what Tom Brady did do and me send him
into the wood. He's coming back looking like Tom hankson
Castaway at two man, he's got a freaking Hollywood wife.
He's got hair down to his shoulders. For it's a
contract year. You look at what he did last year.
It's personal best and franchise records forty eight tugs, seventy percent,
(01:41:47):
completion percent the most. As the matter, Hollywood couldn't do
that on a dating after Rogers is doing that with
freaking puss through in his face. I gotta go with
the odds that I like. At plus a thousand with
Aaron Rodgers, who would get thirteen and three record? Last
year they had the number one offense in terms of
points per game. I got pottle sheckles on a ris
to go back to back double check? Does it happened often?
(01:42:13):
But it's that And then if you want a little
player prop for you that I think the hook line
of book, and I got one for you right here
as well as sononymous with Aaron Rodgers going back to
back right yeah, I'm getting plus seven hundred Martin for
DeVante Adams. Who Oh, by the way, I just took
first overall at the eighth pick in my fantasy half
(01:42:33):
point PPR. I'm getting seven to one. This man had
eighteen tons in fourteen games, hundred and fifteen receptions on
a hundred forty nine targets, fifth in yard, second in receptions,
Tyree Kill was second, and fifteen He needed to play
the whole sixteen. If Aaron eats, it's synonymous with Devonte eating.
(01:42:55):
And I'm getting seven to one. I'm a little bit
of a value guy. I gotta go with DeVonta leading
the league and receiving touchdowns at plus seven. Hunt. All right, well,
let me ask you about that. We're here in l A.
And you know they got the Rams and the Chargers
both both poised to have solid seasons, good seasons, so
maybe even say, hey, is it possible they can both
get to a Super Bowl? I have a whole l
(01:43:17):
A Super Bowl? U? What are is there any is
there a bet on that that we get a Super
Bowl with both l A teams? Absolutely? Man, you're hearing
me in my heart. Man, I'm a recovering San Diego
Charger family. Five eight man, I'm over here, Reggie bush
wand I'm freaking born in ninety I've never experienced the championship.
There is no way the charges a little sophomore slump
(01:43:40):
with it. I'll take it. I'll buy on them having
a good season, not a great season. Head coaching change
as well, and Maddie Staff. I mean, finally he's got
some stability with McVeigh. I think they have a good season.
I think minus won seventy eight on FanDuel for them
to make the playoffs. As we're swallowing the Jews, ain't
no way we're getting what we got a Raymond James
last year with Bucks go on the road, they come
(01:44:01):
home and they win it in their stadium. It's like
a Madden curse, you know, Martin, they don't win when
it's their hosting. Never look, I got one more for
your Monica. I got one more for your offensive rookie
year of the year. We know Trevor Lawrence is starting
day one, we know Zach Wilson is starting day one.
Justin fields Tree Lance not so sure. Nagie Harris also
on the board at plus nine hundred. But the thing
(01:44:22):
I've been sitting here all day and I've talked myself
into it. At this point, I'm putting on Mac Jones
at plus a thousand to win Rookie of the Year.
Come on, baby, you're buying the hoodie. Sweat it over there.
Come on, man, kid's gonna start. I'm sorry if he
does it. That's an internal thing, not an Actually, I
gotta fire on my boys. Fields. Man, they haven't had
(01:44:44):
a quarterback just before we were born. I mean, Calvin
was five years old, but that's a lot of time
they had a quarterback. Look at fields first start ever
fourteen hundred, forty two yards a tug no I n
T five for thirty three on the ground he at
twenty one yard run hundred and six points seven q
b R. I got a nibble on it. Plus five hundred.
(01:45:05):
I think the Jacks are in all our rebuilt. You're
getting the top ten Bears defense. Nagy. You know he's
from the Andy Reid coaching street. I think he can
build the office around Field. I think there's value plus
five hundred. I gotta sprinkle Yeah, I'm rolling with you
on that one, Alex. Are you you're out there alone
on that with Martin because I take two before before
I tip, can I give a quick thirty seconds spill
(01:45:26):
on one. I got a firearm for you boys, because
you like just juke with it. Alright. The Steelers fun
little little stuff to shot for you. They're over Runders
eight and a half wins, which means in the seventeen
game season it goes under their under five hundred. Give
me the last time if you had to guess the
Steelers were under five hundred, it hasn't been since Mike
Tomlin has been their head coach. I'm gonna go. We're
(01:45:49):
talking about the same year Will fare Will asked Snooper
his green hat in old school two three at home.
They started out eleven and oh hundred six and seventy
before his career. Put some bird man on his name,
(01:46:12):
all right, my man. Alex Monica, host of the money
Line Monica podcast on the Volume Sports Podcast Network. Check
him out at Alex Monico. He is a handful And
let me tell you something. Appreciate that, Alex. He's so hype.
He still here. I'll tell you what. He's coming over
(01:46:33):
my house and he's gonna baby sit some kids. He
got all that energy, Bobo, he can keep baby sitting
some kids. I got some kids that running around the
house that when I'm when I'm listen bullpen, I smack
my arm. Bring him in, Bring Alex up the bullpen
to watch these kids. All right, Let's see if Steve
Disager can keep up that same energy with what's trending.
(01:46:53):
I think he can't step in the locks. Nobody can
keep up that energy. You're right before everything's finally. Ajor
League Baseball Oakland hits a two run homer bottom of
the eighth to beat the Yankees three one. Tony Kemp
the hero, so the Yanks fall on the road. Boston
lost on the road, Tampa Bay one again. Boston's lost,
They allowed three runs bottom of the eighth. Cleveland beat
(01:47:13):
him seven to five. Tampa Bay won at seventh straight
game twelve eight at Baltimore. Joey Wendell with two homers,
including a grand slam. Seattle down Kansas City four to three.
Salvador Perez of the Royals did homer for a fifth
straight game. He has thirty eight this year. That's second
in the major leagues to show heyotany who has forty one.
The Dodgers got shut out at home five nothing by Colorado.
(01:47:35):
A Colorado team that was on the road fifteen and
forty seven until this weekend, when they took two of
three from the Dodgers, while l A batted one eight
four in the series. San Francisco got shut out nine
nothing at Atlanta. Philadelphia with a win, but Cincinnati and St.
Louis each lost. Texas beat Houston and Zach Granki thirteen
to two in the NFL Exhibitions five games for this Sunday,
(01:47:58):
only one to go and then it's the end of
the preseason. About nine minutes left in Atlanta. Cleveland's lead
now thirteen ten over the Falcons. Josh Rosen of Atlanta
has thrown a touchdown pass. Baker Mayfield did start for
Cleveland and through a t D pass. New England won
twenty at the Giants, who missed a late two point pass.
Cam Newton of the Patriots two of five passing ten yards,
(01:48:19):
one interception. San Francisco thirty four, ten winners against Las Vegas.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie Trey Lance each had short
touchdown runs in the first half. Miami with two late
t D passes one at Cincinnati twenty nine, twenty six
Jacksonville got two touchdown passes early from quarterback Trevor Lawrence
and a win at Dallas thirty fourteen. The bad news
(01:48:40):
official for the Ravens. Starting running back JK. Dobbins is
out for the year with a torn a c L.
He was hurt in the preseason finale last night. Vikings
starting tight end Herb Smith will have knee surgery. And
Patrick Cantley was the golf winner after the six playoff
hall defeating Bryson Deshambo in Maryland. De Shambo had missed
a six ft put for Bertie on the second lay
off whole. He had also missed a six footer on Friday,
(01:49:03):
and that day shot sixty instead of a fifty nine.
The US Open Tennis tournament starts tomorrow in New York.
Back to you do you appreciated, brother, Thank you very much.
By the way, as a certain point, I mean the hair,
the locks, how far are we going down to back
with it? We're not talking to me, no, I was
(01:49:23):
saying Steve. He I feel like he ignored me. I
mean I was just alright, cool. I'll talked to you later, Steve.
The haircut are you talking? Yes, I'm talking about your locks.
Yesterday your hairs. I was saying, how how long we're
gonna go? I get a haircut every few months like
most people. Lee, on the other hand, that's that's something different. Well, no,
he got a most people. I'm about to say that's
one of those two American things. It is cultured, brother,
(01:49:49):
it's just Steve. Brothers have to get our haircut at
least at least every week, ten days, five days. If
you're on TV, you have to, or it's just a
so you have you have to you Okay, I had
hair Steve. It was every it was every ten days.
Now I'm shaving every two Steve, I'll be honest with you.
If we were doing this on camera, I would be
wearing I would have figured out some type of way
(01:50:09):
to get my haircut over this weekend. Right now, I
have a haircut for radio. Listen. Listen. I'm not now, Steve.
I understand your question when you said have to Okay,
deep down, you're right. But my people are vain people, okay,
and we enjoyed listen. It's factual. If Bob lying it
says something we're like, we're looking good matters probably too much.
(01:50:36):
In fact, first day of school, maybe we're laying out
outfits were like, what the I'm gonna match this with
the I know my outfit first day of school a
week ahead of time. But I I went to a
uniform school. So the idea of getting dressed, in getting
ready for like in that way something that's relatively who
I am thirty two, but it was something that came
after high school. But the idea that, like, I think
(01:51:01):
it is a need because I went March, I went
a long time without getting my hair cut, and I
needed to get like like like with after three weeks,
four weeks, it was like I didn't have because some
guys can grow their hair out a little bit more.
I was in that in between stage more entirely too long,
(01:51:22):
you know. So that's the thing, Steve. You got guys,
you have the dreads and like the long there's an
in between stage you gotta fight through. You got. It's
it's not it's not as an ugly stage in between
state for like four months, Steve, I'm looking through the pandemic.
I was like, I'm not. It's never happening for me.
I can't break my hair. I got look at a cut.
Speaking honestly, a lot of us are in radio and
there for the ugly stage and that might be lasting
(01:51:45):
a little bit longer. Yeah, you know, we'll listen. You know.
I I'm hybrid TV radio, so you know it's important.
You know it is important. I digress though, and I
switched to this. Uh. Lee and I were talking about this,
So I don't know if you guys saw this. Speaking
of University of Michigan. It was a study done by them,
(01:52:06):
the leaders and the best, the leaders in the best
about essentially what you eat and how long you will
then last with said food. So I'll give an example
on extreme ends both sides. If you were to eat
a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which I don't know
anyone over eight years old who consumes them more than me. Uh,
(01:52:26):
you would add thirty three minutes to your life. If
you eat a hot dog, my bad. Everybody goes to
the Dodger Stadium has a Dodger dog, You're losing thirty
six minutes of your life. So essentially, Joey chestnuts on
borrow time, Joey chestnut, but better be eating a whole
lot of peanut butter and jellies and and and bake
salmon to even this thing. Out. So Martin, I'm gonna
throw Bobo Steve Lee. You already know it, so you're
(01:52:48):
kind of out of this. I'm gonna throw this at you.
And then you guys tell me, uh, you know, the
things that would either be setting you back or the
things that you would say, all right, I'm okay, you know,
I meaning a little bit. I gotta hope. All right,
here we go, Peterbut Jelly, are you guys in on
the petubu and Jelly you on that train? Get it?
Get it? Yeah? Sure, are you get any minute? I
don't like the way you say yere, I think you're lying.
Think you're dying. Big salmon, anybody and begs yeah, big salmon, right,
(01:53:12):
which it adds your life thirteen and a half minutes
because you just said it. Bananas, I feel like bananas
are adding. They are adding. Would you like me to
mix it up? Well, the obvious ones, the double cheeseburgers.
I think we know where we're going, right, So here's
the here's the Okay, So if if what was the
one that took thirty three minutes off your life? You
(01:53:33):
said thirty six minutes of hot dog? Hot dogs? Okay,
so hot dogs takes thirty six minutes off your life.
So for a hot dog takes thirty six minutes off
your life, and Joey Chestnut can eat a hundred and
fifty of them on on on July. Somebody get a calculator, right,
I feel like a double cheeseburger gotta take at least
to half an hour. I mean at least at least
a whole hour, a full hour, only eight and a
(01:53:54):
half minutes, eight point eight minutes. I'm about to say, see,
that's when you start getting too scientific with it. That's
how I knew it wasn't gonna be. So you mean
to tell me that hot dog is almost triple as
deadly as because it gets into all the saturated fats
and the other types of fats. And then I was
breaking they're breaking down. So essentially, for those trying to
figure out what it is, what they do is that
(01:54:14):
calculate would eat food ingredient or ingredient the food means.
So the for instance, reason why peanut butter and jelly
is hiring protein. It starts to go into you get
a lot of you get the positive fats and all
of that, and it's less cholesterol. They're going all of that,
and they say, so that would add ment to your
life hot dog. Ain't nothing positive happening with that. There's
nothing good in a hot dog. If you like them,
(01:54:35):
don't figure out how they're made, well, you don't want
to do that, and then you know want It's also
sad when you start looking at what the animals eat
that we then eat. Don't ever look at that because
they're feeding chicken chicken, and they're feeding pigs pigs, and
then we eat the pigs and it's kind of like,
that's just yeah, it starts getting really dark and morbid
and sad. So, by the way, if you eat French fries,
a lot of you fend you're actually on the plus side.
(01:54:56):
If you eat French fries plus a minute and a half,
like doesn't matter if they're fried or air fried or
it just said French fries. Why don't buy it. I
don't buy I don't see I don't buy this list
A double cheeseburger, it's too cheeseburger. It's a it's a
it's two meats, it's two patties. But pif isn't that,
it's just it's a protein. And hot dogs are just
(01:55:17):
literally left different parts of a pig, the process, not
You can't go to a pig and get give it
that hot dog part right there. You can't go you
can't go to the butcher and ask for the hot
dog you like you're asking for. Let me get the calf,
the leg, thet the hoofs, the snot pizza pizza. You're
losing some minutes seven and a half minutes baking pizzas
(01:55:39):
on the lem. Sorry, but well you're dead. Oh god,
I'm just going to blaze pizza the morning. Yeah, well
you're about the blazing on up. You might wanna blaze
something else that you can get your own greedy, your
own topics there so you can make good choices with
that pizza. That's true. They have a pepperoni looking slice.
Also bacon negative six point four. You're losing six point
four minutes in your life. And other positive things are
(01:56:01):
tomatoes avocados. You'll save three you get plus three point
eight minutes for tomatoes, plus two point eight with avocado,
which means everybody in l A Is living forever. Because
if I see avocado tous one more time, I'm smacking somebody.
I'm about to say that, no tomato exactly. I think Steve.
Steve and me are on the same boat here. I
(01:56:21):
don't like this list. I don't like admitutes to my life.
That's why that must be the reason why they throw
it in every single combo and up charge you two
dollars for it. Is that the reason especially extend my
life and just to get me back in the store,
especially if you want sweep potato fries, which, by the way,
I jumped in on that that train I've been on
for a little bit. At first, I was like, I
passed whenever they get that option. We also have sweepetati
(01:56:41):
fried I'm like, no, man, because you know the soul
food in me. If I'm gonna sweepetates, I want them.
As far as fast food fries, Jack in the box
for those who don't have them, and from Carl's Jr.
Our Heart Eason as it is in the South, the
cris cut fries, Oh my god, So whoa rallies and
orch curse rallies, checker fries. City outside of town you're in,
(01:57:03):
it's either rallies or checkers. They're huge in Michigan, as
you know, Martin Rallies and checkers everywhere in Detroit Um.
Their fries are great, Arby's curly fries don't sleep. I
you know, I just I gotta say something. Yes, I
don't know if anybody here knows this, but I'll make
this admission to America today. I'm not about to like this.
I can tell well, at one point in my life
(01:57:24):
I was two pounds. Oh yeah, I do know that yet. Yes,
so I didn't know if you knew that. But one
of the things I swore I cut off French fries.
Haven't missed him since I haven't. I haven't had a
fry in four years. Really haven't thought about it. Like
you don't see fries and go miss that? What have
you cut out that? You go? I still struggle with that. See,
(01:57:45):
that's the thing. Nothing really really it was very Yeah,
I didn't. My thing was never. It was never like
I didn't. I just need to exercise more, that's real.
I just need to do things and get out, just move.
I just moved a little bit. I'd are right. But
in terms of diet, yeah, but French fries cut him out.
Coffee I don't drink that, and I'm pretty I used
(01:58:06):
those two things. That's like, that's why I'm a fatass
that those are the two things. Well, my wife could
eat fries three times a day and she's not that
although she might have that, that's you know, she's not
a listening right now. Borrow Kevin Washington, Fox Sports Sunday,
World War Secon Left, Oh boy, Martin White's Kelvin Washington
(01:58:30):
sitting in with you guys on a Fox Sports Sunday.
It's been a blast here watching the final preseason game
and goys, get it overweight. I mean, it's it has
been dragging on for quite some time because I am
so ready, Kelvin. I'm so so so ready. I cannot wait,
literally cannot wait. You're not more excited? I cannot. I
(01:58:54):
can't get to that point. You know, he's he's he's
plugged in like to the wall. You know what I'm saying.
Like we talked about somebody's plugged in and let me
like they know a lot of people know he's plugged
in to the wall. He is literal electricity. I need
that in my life. I need that to keep me,
keep you up, but keep you going. But no, I'm
excited about it, man. A couple of there's a couple
of things I'm looking at Martin as we get ready
(01:59:15):
to wind this on down. And it has been a
blast kicking in with you. Man. We've known each other
for a little bit and get to do a show together.
Um it's uh for me to two quarterbacks in the
same division, uh total different points and career and were
formerly in the same division. I mean, let me back up.
But it's Matthew Stafford and Justin Fields. And I'll be quick.
With Matthew Stafford. I think the obvious, right. I want
(01:59:37):
to see as a fan of Lions fan and watch
every one of his snaps just about what was it
us holding him back? Was he didn't have this, He
didn't have a creative offensive coordinator, he didn't have that.
He was you know, all those reasons and excuses. I
want to see him now thrive in l a with
a quarterback whisper and Sean McVeigh, with the defense that say, hey,
(01:59:58):
you don't have to make every play, m dump it down,
We'll punt it. This defense will get you right back
in it and bam on our and the TV in
front of us and showing him right now, Uh is
Justin Fields. He's the other guy I'm excited to see
because every year every couple of years. There's that you
mentioned in earlier, Deshaun Watson, type of guy that we
just for whatever reasons, we don't. We just like we
(02:00:20):
under like under sail right, justin fields and everything he could,
he bawled out, he played well, he had high, great throws,
and for some reason we're just like Na Lawrence. Travor
Tota told with Trevor Lawrence made amazing throws. For some reason,
we always go nah, right. Dak Prescott was that guy
the year before he got drafted, come in like nah,
Baker Mayfield, We're like, all right, man, nah. And he's
(02:00:41):
having a really good career so far. So justin fields
reminds me of that guy will keep. For some reason,
we're just like, no, he's not. He doesn't make he
can't read the field like that. He can't do that.
And I'm looking forward to seeing if he'll shut up
the haters and and and be able to thrive in Chicago.
I'll tell you what, the rookie almost excited to see
just just just for like pure show on the field
and Jack Wilson because we just accepted the Jets at
(02:01:02):
number two taking Zach Wilson. It never asked any questions
about it. Nobody. Everybody was just like, Okay, Trevor Lawrence
number one, Zack Wilson number two, who's going third? And
that's why I met johsin Fields could have been hello, right,
So we just were good with Zach Wilson. I just
gotta see if Zach Wilson just deserved to be stapled
into that number two spot like that. But of the
guys who we know already, I am fascinated to see
(02:01:25):
what Josh Allen is going to do this year, regress
or continue to get better, because the leap that he
made from is unprecedented in football history. I feel like,
especially in his own personal football history, he like he
was never like that that jump, We've never seen anything
(02:01:46):
like it before. Uh And and at this point, if
you're if you're still saying that Josh Allen is an
NFL quarterback or even not a top half of the league,
top ten quarterback, you probably just a hater. But I
gotta see if he could keep up in that rope
that he threw that three yards just broke. That thing
didn't even go like fifteen yards over eight eight yards high,
eight yards high, and just on a rope. So I'm
(02:02:08):
interested to see if he can get his get his
kind of his turnovers in order, and if he doesn't
have that that that brain go haywire play every so often,
I'm really excited to see what he's going to turn
up being this year. Josh Allen and a lot of
people are are watching him to see to see, you know,
if if that was just a hot season and he'll regress.
It happens every now and again, but either way, Man,
(02:02:31):
great show. Martin Witte's cover of Washington. We're out of here, Fox,
What's Radio
