Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're hello. Welcome to the Joy Taylor Show on Fox
Sports Radio. I am Joy Taylor alongside Iowa, Sam and
Lee on this beautiful Saturday afternoon. It's hot. It is
hot out here in southern California. I don't know why.
I think it's the fall. Must have been that pumpkin
(00:23):
spice latte I had a couple of weeks ago. Because
it is cooking out here. It is like nine degrees
and I have a sweatshirt on and I don't know why.
Because it's college football Saturday, and around the country it
looks like it's fall. Georgia is dumping on Arkansas right now.
It's twenty four nothing the beginning of the third quarter.
(00:43):
Michigan is up over Wisconsin. As they kick off the
second half. We'll talk to Amina Jays Smith of NBC
Boston about just a little game, little little homecoming happening
this weekend as the Goat Tom Brady returns to New
England's want to get her perspective being in Boston, just
(01:06):
the fan base there, what, what's what She's hearing um
around the city. I'm very interested to see what the
reception is going to be from the fans. If you're
a Patriots fan, do you, boo Tom Brady? Do you
test the football gods in such a way? I wouldn't
recommend it, but I do think it's going to be
a good reception for for Tommy back in Boston this weekend,
(01:30):
which is a game all of us will be paying
attention to on Sunday night. We'll also talked to Mark
Sanchez a Fox Sports. He has a really interesting perspective
on the rookie quarterbacks. Obviously, he has a lot of
experience playing for UH teams that get a lot of attention.
He signed in New York, so we can talk to
(01:51):
him about Zach Wilson, and of course the story that
I am obsessed with, which is Dustin Fields, which, by
the way, Matt Maggie still still has not annalysa starter
for Sunday if you can believe it, it's still happening.
Big debate between Nick Foles and Justin Fields. Remarkable. So
I talk to him about that. And as we mentioned
with my good brother LaVar Arrington, j Cina Anderson we'll
(02:16):
join us later today and she has a new show. Obviously,
she has her her company undefined, and she just joined
CBS Sports doing some reporting and stories for them as well,
so we will talk to her later on. And I'm
it's a working title, so don't be mad at me
because I'm really bad at names. So maybe Lee and Ia,
(02:39):
Sam you can come up with a better name. But
I give you my top five games and I'm most
interested in every weekend, and then I give you two
picks where I'm gonna make some money so I can
retire at the age of fifty. And so I'll give
you two picks and my five favorite games. Uh, and
I have it's an important It's really terrible, but it's
(03:01):
it's a working title. So it's it's fat Fat five
and two dimes. Is it awful? Did? It's a bit cringe?
It's a wee bit cringe. Not. Maybe you can be
shortened just a tad Okay, So we'll find a better
name for it. If you have a suggestion tweeting to me,
yeah at Joy Taylor Talks, I will give you credit
and you that's all you'll get, because that's that's all
I'm getting right now. But I need a better name
(03:23):
for it. But I will give you my top five
games and why and my two picks later on. But
let's start with with that reunion that is happening. Tom
Brady returning to New England. We've been talking about it
all week. We really actually started talking about it last
week because it is such a big deal that the
greatest quarterback to ever play's returning to New England's where
(03:46):
they are not playing well. They have his predace, his
his next his replacement in Mac Jones, who I honestly,
he's been terrible. He's just been doing what they've asked
him to do, but we've not not seen anything spectacular
from him yet. I actually think mac Jones I would
(04:07):
I would love to have a conversation with him about
how he's feeling about everything leading into Sunday, because if
I'm Mac Jones, I am the most nervous person on
the field. I mean, you're across the field from the
greatest ever do it actually the biggest age gap in
between two quarterbacks in any game in NFL history with
(04:29):
twenty one years. Mac Jones was born the day of
Tom Brady's first start at Michigan, so he's a little
bit older than him, and he's going to be there
in Gellette, across the field from from Tom Brady, which is,
which is pretty remarkable. And Tom's talked all week and
(04:51):
obviously Seth Flickersham's book came out with a lot of
stories and interesting tidbits about Tom's time there and the
break up with him in Belichick and Tom talked a
little bit about you know what He's going to be
feeling and experiencing going back to New England this weekend.
I know that locker room, I know that home locker room,
I know that home tunnel, I know you know which
(05:13):
way the wind blows. I know everything about that. I
know the way it smells. I know what a night
games like, I know what the fans are gonna sound like.
So in some ways that will be really unique. I've
never had that experience going to you knowing. It will
be a first time for me being on the other sideline.
I'm not gonna necessarily reminisce. I don't think this is
the moment for that, and I'll have plenty of opportunities
to reminisce about my football career, none of which I
(05:35):
really care to do right now because I'm so much
in the moment. I'm not going to be thinking about
twenty years of history. I'm gonna be thinking about one
night of football, a Sunday night game, coming off a
really tough loss. I don't know, Tommy, I don't know.
I I tend to believe tom when he talks about
things like this because he's the greatest. So anyone who
(05:59):
is great a't thing knows how to compartmentalize. It's just
it's a skill that you have to be able to
remove outside emotions and distractions and focus entirely on on
being great in the moments at one particular task. But
he's still human, and this is a unique moment for him,
(06:25):
for the organization, for Belichick, for Patriots fans, for Buccaneers fans,
for football fans. I mean, we're all going to be
locked in on everything that happens during this game, which,
by the way, not to derail myself, but Rock Gronkowski
is not going. He is not traveling to New England.
Will be out for the game because of a rib injury.
(06:46):
According to Schefter, he had been considered unlikely to play
and listed is doubtful. Didn't practice all week. Um, he
was seen at practice during the portion that was open
to the media, but he's not going to be there.
Tom Brady will and He's right. They are coming off
of a rough loss, and generally good teams, As I
(07:07):
mentioned with LaVar and the guys earlier, good teams tend
to bounce back against inferior opponents. And I think we
all believe the Buccaneers are a good team. And they lost,
They lost very badly to the Rams last weekend, and
he did not look happy. He had that, he had
that Tommy face which we all know too well, which
(07:29):
is gonna be a rough week of practice for everybody else,
and they're gonna lock in. And if this wasn't the Patriots,
this was any other team. Actually, I think if it
even if it was the Patriots at home and Tampa,
I believe it would be a blowout. But I just
have a hard time believing it's going to get that
out of hands. I gotta give Belichick some credit, right,
(07:51):
he is still the greatest coach in NFL history. He
doesn't know tom a little bit. Now, you gotta have
the personnel to be able to do that. But you know,
the Buccaneers are coming up a bad loss like it's
it's it can happen. So I think the two main
things that I'm looking for, obviously are the emotion in
(08:12):
Tom Brady. I'm I'm so interested to see what he's
like pregame. Do we see any do we see any cracks? Obviously,
how he plays is how he's gonna play again. I
think he can compartmentalize with that. And I am so
interested to see what the interaction with Bill Belichick is.
(08:35):
I don't know if there's any uh any lines for this,
like do they hug because Bill does not a hugger
personal joint out not a huge hugger either, I gotta
I gotta know you personally, not a big stranger hugger. Um.
I don't know. I don't know what that interaction would
(08:57):
because if it's Andy Reid, if it's Pete Carroll, of
it's Sean Payton, I think even yeah, like Mike Tomlin.
It's just Bill Belichick is such a unique personality and
he's such a certifiable grump in his own way. I
just and and all of the stories like this has
(09:19):
been a kind of a drama week, a lot of
tax on Bill and how things ended there. So I
don't know. I think maybe they shake hands before the game.
I think, no matter what happens, they don't interact after
the game. But I don't know. I don't know if
anyone else is interested in that, but I'm so interested
(09:40):
to see what their interaction is. Joy. I think what
I see happening is a little bit, you know, like
that like you grab sort of like the arm and
then you kind of give him like a little That's
what I said. That's what I said. Handshake, Yeah, a
handshake right, like the loose kind of like dap and
then ah, then a lot of boy like a little
pat on the shoulder, like a little squeeze, yeah, like
(10:01):
not quite a hug, a little extra touching so that
it's you know, we have interacted. It didn't just shake hands.
That's what I think that's going to happen too. I
see that. I like it. I like it too. I
mean they're not I know, I want to, I think
because I think that's what happens. I definitely don't think
they hug um. And And again, I don't know if
(10:22):
anyone else is interested in that, but I just think
it's I think it's interesting. I think the way the
things ended there, there was there was some animosity. Obviously
they would not seeing that I or he wouldn't be
in Tampa Bay to begin with. So you know, this return,
the whole story behind it is so interesting to me
and I can't wait to see what happens on Sunday.
They're currently favored by seven according to Fox Bet. Again,
(10:45):
I would I'm going to stay away from this game
just because I don't know what to do with the
emotion factor for Tom Brady for that building. It's just
there's too many unknowns in that space for me. And
if he wins, if he beats the Patriots, which I
assume that they will, he will have beaten all thirty
two NFL teams, the greatest ever do it. So we
(11:07):
will talk to Amina Jade of NBC Boston more about
tom Brady's return and what what she's hearing. You can
follow her at Amina Jade TV. We will talk to
her at the bottom of the hour. Coming up next though,
what loss this weekend breaks a team that at the
beginning of the season we thought were contenders whose season
(11:28):
is pretty much on the line this weekend. That's coming
up on The Joy Taylor Show and Fox Sports Radio.
Welcome back to The Joy Taylor Show here on Fox
Sports Radio, brought to you by one of our favorite cities,
Las Vegas, the greatest arena on Earth. Plan your trip
today at visit Las Vegas dot com. I'm going to
(11:53):
Las Vegas next weekend. Cannot wait. Bart going for Wilder
Fury only for the day, though obviously I will be
here with you guys next Saturday from two to four Eastern,
same bad time, same bad place. But after that getting
(12:13):
on an airplane and going to Vegas for for the night,
which is the which is one of my favorite ways
to do Vegas. Visit Las Vegas dot com. We'll talk
to mean to Jade at the bottom of the hour. Again.
She is in Boston at NBC Boston, so she's gonna
have lots of perspective on the Tom Brady return as
well as the game, which is a very interesting matchup
(12:34):
and and really important one for um the Patriots. Almost
said Brady and the Patriots, how many times is that
going to happen on the broadcast? Though? Right like, that's
only it's an almost an impossibility. I mean, it's twenty years,
it's insane. It's really remarkable what his what his career is.
(12:56):
I think I think Brady were very spoiled with Brady
end with Lebron that we're just so used to them
existing and being as amazing as they are that we don't.
We're just used to it. We're completely spoiled. I don't
know what what's like, What does the NFL look like
when Tom Brady isn't in it? I don't know. It's
(13:17):
been so long. I don't even know how I remember
at the age of thirty four. That's like, that's how
long he's been around you. You alluded to the booing
thing at the beginning of the show, or maybe I don't.
It's been It's been coming up in conversation on on
Fox Sports Radio, and I just think that if if
there's any a single boo, it's like booing Santa Claus,
do you boo the person who brings you gifts, who
(13:37):
brings you Super Bowls? Well, they just gonna be drunk.
And if he was only bringing you gifts and then
he left you to only give other people gifts, tis done. No,
I'm with you. I think it is an affront to
the sport. Fans don't think they get drunk and then
(13:57):
they just they just follow their stupid impulse. Yeah, but
I I personally don't get outraged by much. I get
outraged like twice a year, even though everyone thinks I'm
mad about everything, which I'm I'm absolutely not sorry, Internet,
sorry disappoint you. I'm I'm mostly chilling. Um, But I
do see you quote tweeting some trolls every now and then. Yeah,
but I'm not outraged generally, And I'm doing that when
(14:19):
I'm in an uber trying to pass time, or i
am on my couch and I have like zoned out
of whatever show it is I'm watching, um and I'm
in sweatpants. Like, at no point, am I is like
my day being disrupted by anything that anyone says on
the Internet. But um, I will be outraged if Patriots
fans boo Tom Brady at all that you're testing, that
(14:41):
you're testing the sports gods there. You have lived a
great life for twenty years, you got to watch the
Dynasty and have the greatest quarterback of all time in
your building. Do not poke the bear. I will be
so upset. I mean, that's just that's that's nonsense, And
you still Belichick. I don't think it will happen, though
(15:03):
crazier things have happened. Obviously, they should give him a
standing ovation, right, I think they will give him a
great will. I think they will. I can't imagine that
there's a person there who's going to be booing him.
I think there are a people people booing, but we're
always drawn towards the negative. We see those people first,
but most people there will be fully acknowledging and appreciating
what he did for that franchise. I mean, if you're
(15:24):
a fellow Patriots, if you're a Patriots man, you're standing
next to a Patriots fans that that's booing? Do do
you not just look at them like, hey, are you lost?
What's wrong with you? I don't know. I'm sure nothing
is all in everything. I can't make sweeping statements that
there won't be one person to booze. That's fine, but
I'm talking about any sort of collective sound of you know,
(15:47):
disrespect for the return of Tom Brady from the Patriots
fans or like that space. I think, good result and
maybe the rest of your your time being a fan.
You know you never win again because you've been blessed
and you need to be grateful. You could be it
could be Dolphins, you could be me. You could be
(16:07):
a Dolphins fan. They have suffered at at the hands
of Tom Brady for twenty years. You're gonna be on
the other end of it. But we'll talk to Mina
a little bit about it in a couple of minutes
and she'll have some more perspective. Before the break. I
teased a team that that we really need to pay
attention to this weekend. Um. Particularly I'm paying attention to
because I picked them to go to the Super Bowl,
(16:29):
and I'm gonna look super wrong if they start the
season uh consistent with what they're doing right now, which
is the Seattle Seahawks at one and two. So if
they start one and three, which is entirely possible because
they're playing San Francisco this weekend, who is also a
(16:50):
contending team, is gonna be rough. And they have blown
two back to back uh ten point leads, I believe,
um or double digit leads. They've owned double digit leads
in two straight games. Last year, they started five and
oh finished twelve and four and one the NFC West,
(17:11):
and there are three point underdogs to the Niners. It's
it's entirely possible that they lose this weekend and start
one and three, which is just remarkable. I mean that
division is obviously impossible. But Russell Wilson has never lost
three in a row, and and he was asked about
it and he was like, they're like, what do you
(17:32):
attribute that too? And he said, not thinking about losing
three in a row, which is which is right, Like
that's the don't you don't get into that mentality, that's
your losers. But that could happen this weekend. So and
if that happens, I don't know how they turn turn
it around. I mean, they could obviously still get um
a wild card. But the Rams are unbelievable right now.
(17:56):
Matthew Stafford is everything that he was billed to be,
getting great protection. They look amazing. The Cardinals, I mean
Cardinals are not that they were. They were not a
bad team last year, but they have taken such a
step up and Kyler Murray is like one of the
best watches in the NFL right now. And again, the
forty niners are always going to be consistent, like as
long as they have as long as they're healthy, their problems,
(18:20):
so you can't afford to slip in that division, like
there are some other teams obviously pointing to the Colts,
who you know are our own three, which is really surprising.
But that division, you know, Houston is one and two,
so I mean, and I'm no, nobody's worried about the Chiefs.
(18:41):
So it's really like that division. You can't start the
way that they're starting. And this weekend they're going up
against the divisional opponent who is a tough opponent in
the Niners. And um, don't make me, don't make me
look like a liar, Seattle, I don't appreciate that. I
was really really high on you to the season, and yeah,
(19:04):
I mean, this is this is this is looking bleak
really quickly. Wisconsin is up twenty to ten on Wisconsin.
I mean, I'm sorry, Michigan is up twenty to ten
on Wisconsin. Uh. Currently, we will get you the rest
of the college football updates at the bottom of the
hour before we talked to Amina and Georgia is up
twenty seven nothing on Arkansas. So yeah, I mean to
(19:25):
to mention the um, the Colts, and the Chiefs really quickly.
I mean, the Steelers are I mean whatever, They're at
the bottom of that division. That's I didn't think that
they were going to be a playoff team this year. Anyway,
Big Ben has looked rough. They've had horrible injuries, and
they cannot run the ball. They are the worst at
running the ball in the entire league. You're not gonna
(19:47):
win in the ANFC North doing that. You are not
gonna win anywhere in the NFL doing that, but especially
that division. So you know, it's the Chiefs, the Colts,
and the Seahawks that are the teams to pay attention
to this weekends that really there. Their seats could turn
if they don't if they don't get to win. So
Seattle is playing San Francisco. Seattle currently at the bottom
(20:08):
of the standings, and that division, the Cults play the Dolphins,
which is just kind of interesting. I'm staying away from
this game. Uh but I mean J Kobe persaid hasn't
been playing bad and it's in Miami, so I don't like.
The Colts could very well lose that game and then
(20:30):
that's gonna be really tough for their season as well.
But again, that division is not not the NFC West.
If they can get healthy, they can turn it around.
And then the Chiefs play the Eagles this weekend. I
think the Chiefs will win, and they're the team that
I am the least concerned about moving forward. With this
start because we've we've seen what they do. Now it
is on the road and and I like Philadelphia. I
(20:54):
wasn't expecting that game against Dallas to be the blowout
that it was, but it is a divisional game in
Dallas is a moment er and you know that's that's
what went the way it did because Dallas's defense is
a lot better than it was last year, which no
one's really paying attention to. Uh, they'll catch on, and
I think this weekend will be a good um, a
(21:16):
good test for them and a good example of what
the Cowboys are capable of. It might be one of
my special picks in the Fab five? What did I
call it? The Fab five and two dimes. It's such
a terrible name. If you are listening, please tweet me
with a better name for my five favorite games and
(21:36):
uh two picks. Oh wait, we have one house full
of Joy or Joys full House. Joy's full House. It's working.
I don't hate it. That's from Arn Underscore four two
four two. Let me think about it. So it's Fab
five and two dimes. Which is it? It's really long?
(21:57):
Um or Joy's Full House. We're still taking suggestions on
that Um, but I will give you my five favorite
games this weekend and two picks, and maybe maybe that
Panthers Cowboys games in it. I cannot confirm just yet.
Maybe maybe, But let's get to what's trend and get
you the updates and then I'll get to Joe. I
(22:17):
gonna ask you this before we get into the scores.
Al Right, So, if we had to compare sports, like
let's just say the n b A major League Baseball
in the National Hockey League, Um, when would you think
it would be appropriate to boo a legendary player of
a hometown team, like let's just say Derek Jeter, god forbid,
(22:38):
played for like the St. Louis Cardinals or the Dodgers
and went to the Yankee Stadium, or like Jordan's went
to the Lakers for the Boston Celtics. I mean, he
didn't go to a rival, you know, So I think
it's I think it depends on where you go, Like
Tampa Bay was the most probably the most neutral place
he ended up in the league. I don't know. I
(23:01):
don't know that there's really it's hard to make a comparison. Um,
Jeter's close, Geter's close, But I don't know, I just
I don't think you can do it. The reason why
I'm saying this is because isn't it your duty as
a hometown fan to boo the opposing team or cheer
as loud as you can to create a hostile environment
(23:23):
with a quarterback that's going to touch the ball on
every single snap. Yeah, I mean, I think you can
make the environments hot, not hostile. But I think you can.
You can bring the energy, But I don't know if
if Kansas City played at San Francisco with Joe Montana quarterback,
you would expect the fans that you know, they were
(23:44):
cheering at Candlestick Park to be screaming their heads off.
Yeah you can scream, you can cheer. I just don't
think you can bootalm. I think you can boo the
Buccaneers defense. I don't think you can boo Tom Brady
like when Tom Brady is under center. H you just
make noises, make mouth noises, but not once that in
for negativity right now, feel to play a lot of
(24:05):
people are doing for Arkansas. They were supposed to put
up a fight against Georgia. They're not uh dogs bark
in twenty seven to nothing in this game late in
the third quarter. K J. Jefferson for Arkansas is just
eight of thirteen for sixty five yards. James Cook has
eleven carries for eighty yards. Michigan by ten over Wisconsin.
They have the rock right now. Twenty to ten is
a score of this ball game is on Fox Tennessee
(24:27):
blowing out Missouri Pitt and Georgia Tech Pit leading forty
four teams to score in that affair. Texas by nine
over TCU and Louisville Wait Force at the break, seventeen
Southern Calinea at Colorado three nothings to score that one
and in about five minutes from now, number seven since
chicking on Notre Dame am Notre Dame ninth wren in
the nation and four no No No on the year. Joy
(24:48):
back to let's go out to Amina Jade or I
mean it's Smith, I should say of NBC Boston in
here on the Joy Taylor Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Hi Amina, thank you for joining us this morning, this afternoon.
Hi Joy, thank you. You know I love to pop
in and hang out with you. I appreciate it, and
(25:12):
I have so many questions because you you are in
Boston and we have been talking pretty much all morning
about an all week and kind of last week about
Tom Brady returning to New England for this game. We
obviously just learned Rob Gronkowski is not going to be there.
But what's the what's the vibe, what's the energy there
(25:34):
in the city among the fans about Tom coming back.
I think fans are excited. That's the vibe that I've
gotten so far, because you know, I know everybody even
talking about this game for like the last two weeks.
I've been talking about this game for the last six months,
and like that's that's how important this game is for
fans in New England. And it's almost like it's almost
(25:55):
like being in a relationship and you break up, but
you secretly are peaking at Tom Brady down in Tampa
Bay to see if he is happy down there and
if he's happier than you know what he was in
New England. So I think fans are definitely interested in
this game. They're invested. Some might be a little bit
exhausted from hearing about it so much, you know, especially
the last two weeks with it being so close to
(26:17):
the game going down tomorrow. But you know, I was
listening to you before you know, we started talking and
you guys are talking about fans possibly the possibility of
them booing Tom Brady. That's not gonna happen. I just
I couldnot imagine New England fans, after what Tom Brady
has brought to the New England Patriots, that he would
get booed by fans out there. I would I would
(26:38):
be with you, Joy, I would be so upset if
that did happen. I would be appalled, appalled. I obviously
we've we are Miami people, so we've suffered from Tom
Brady for a really long time. And you could be
on the other side of things real quick, real quick,
those kinds and remind you. So I'm with you, like
I can't even we can't say anything in all right,
(27:00):
Like there might be one or two people or whatever
that's not gonna trigger me. But if there is a
point where it is very obvious that there's any kind
of like hostile reaction to Tom Brady, and that's crazy, right,
oh absolutely, Like that would just be I like, honestly,
it would blow my mind. But then again again, deep
down in my heart, I just don't feel like Patriots
(27:20):
fans they have that type of hate for Tom Brady.
It's literally like a weird love that they still have
from people are still a wearing his jerseys out there
to the game. I did the Free Game show last week.
They're playing the State. People are still out there in
Tom Brady jerseys and there's still a lot of love
for him in New England. We're talking to Amana Jade
Smith and the NBC Sports Boston. You can follow her
(27:41):
at Amina Jade TV. So Seth Wickersham's book came out
and not so many flattery flattering things about Bill Belichick
in it, which is not terribly surprising because we all
kind of know how Bill Belichick is to some degree.
We've i mean, we've had him and Tom in our
lives to a very high capacity for a long time.
(28:02):
So you know the fact that he's not like warm
and cuddley is not a huge reveal. But what was
the reaction up there to you know, some of the
stories that were in the book about Belichick. I feel like,
because like you said, some people knew, you know, about
Bill Belichick obviously from the outside looking in, and that
coldness that he has about him. A couple of things
that really stood out to me was the fact that
(28:24):
this relationship was deteriorating according to the book from right.
So this is like after the Super Bowl, like, you know,
they win, they make that huge comeback against the Atlanta Falcons,
and Tom Brady considering, according to this book, considering leaving
because of the fact that him and Bill Belichick just
don't seem to be on the same page. And then
you have the comments like that came about two weeks
(28:45):
ago from his trainer, you know, Alex Guerrero talking about
the fact that Bill Belichick is treating him like a
twenty year old rookie as opposed to a four year
old quarterback that has won six Super Bowls. And anybody
could could agree. He's been around the NFL, has been
around player has been on a locker room like that's
just something you don't do. And I know that people
look at the New England Patriots, they look at Bill Belichick,
(29:06):
and they admire the fact that Bill Belichick treats everybody
in the same did everybody. If you make a mistake,
you're gonna get scolded like everybody else gets scolded, whether
you're Tom Brady or you know, somebody trying to make
the Rocks through or just contributing a role player. Everybody's
going to get scolded, but you can't tell me that
you're treating Tom Brady the goat the same as everybody else,
and everybody in that locker room would be okay if
Tom Brady was treated differently. And I think that, you know,
(29:28):
just based off everything that's come out over the last
couple of weeks, all those things really added up to
him leaving and just being unhappy in New England, and
you kind of hate to see it after those two
being together for twenty years. You listen to the Joy
Taylor Show on Fox Sports Radio. Do they hug? Do
you think they hug? I think they do. I think
(29:49):
you think they think they actually like they bro hug,
because what I think is that I think they say
like they like kind of shake hands like dap up
and then do kind of the shoulder grab. It's like
a half hug thing, like a you know what I mean,
Like it's like an extra touch, but not a full embrace. Yeah,
it's not gonna be like, oh, D like love best,
like I miss you so much. It's gonna be like, okay,
(30:12):
like this is a hug to make sure everybody on
the outside know that we're okay. Everything is copasthetic. You
go your way, I'm gonna go my way, and that's
gonna be it. That's all I expect, just like a
regular platonic bro hug, which again, for me, like it
just sucks because like they've done so many great things together,
(30:33):
really change the NFL with what Tom Brady and Bill
Belichick have been able to do, so you would expect
and you would want to see more. But come on,
we're talking about Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, and I
feel like there's still a little bit of a little
bit of bad blood there, just a little bit. Yeah. Well,
I mean the way I look at it, because you know,
Tom obviously kind of threw a little bit of a
wet blanket on the drama, you know, as he's going
(30:54):
to do. Like you know, he even he loved his
time there and blah blah blah, and he loves the
fans and you know, everything's fine, which we know is
not true or he wouldn't be in Tampa Bay. But
my perspective is, I don't want all the tea just yet. Now.
I love some tea, but I want it after they're done.
I want to watch the rest of Bill Belichick with
Mac Jones, Bill Belichick without Tom Brady at this point
(31:15):
in his career, what does he do. I want to
see Tom Brady in Tampa, you know, in the twilight
of his career, and what he accomplishes on his way out,
and then when they're both done, then we can get
the last dance documentary style, t let us know what happened.
I want all the behind this, I want everything. I
want all the stories, but not until they're done. So
(31:36):
I don't have a problem with Tom saying, you know,
even though I don't believe him when he's like, oh,
you know, everything's fine, everything's great. Um, I don't need
all that right now. Yeah, I agree with you. I
feel like the t the realty is going to come
out when all the dustes suttle, when Tom Brady and
Bill Belichick are all set and done. That's where we're
gonna get the real tea, not this, he said. He's
(31:57):
the teeth that she said. Bill Belichick also la Weeks
during the press there, he was talking about Steth Wickersham's
book and he was like, you know, well, these are
a lot of accounts in our second, third, fourth cand accounts,
so I don't know, I can't really speak on you know,
what's in this book, And I just found it really
funny for him to say that, just because you know,
with all the things coming out and everything like that,
it's just we're gonna get the realty. The realty is
(32:18):
going to come out when it's supposed to exactly. We're
talking to Mina Jade Smith of NBC Sports Boston on
the Joy Taylor Show on Fox Sports Radio. So let's
talk a little bit about the game. Obviously, it was
a rough, rough game last week for Tampa Bay UM
against the Rams, who are are looking unbelievable, and generally,
you know, you would expect a team like Tampa Bay
(32:39):
to bounce back strong against and if what is an
inferior opponent right now in the Patriots UM. But I
think with all the emotional factors going on, I think
it's actually going to be a closer game than people think.
I think it could be a closer game. I was
a bit more optimistic about the Patriots going into this
matchup when we were in Week three and they were
(33:01):
getting ready to play the Saints, but then you know,
they still have those offensive line issues. You have Trent
Brown who's not in the lineup. They've had issues at
right tackle. You know, people are looking for more from
that defensive front, for more impact plays. You don't have
steff On Gilmore and that defensive back. So there's just
so much going on with this team. I'm not gonna
(33:21):
lie join. My confidence level is very low going into
this matchup. I went from you know, having maybe a
twenty five percent chance of the Patriots, you know, coming
out with the wind, which is even still a stretch
with twenty two. After Week three, I was like, all right,
y'all brought me down to about six seven percent because
I don't know. I just I just don't know what
(33:43):
team is gonna show up, if you guys are gonna
show up, And then you know you have to consider also,
you have more than half of these guys, or maybe
about half of these guys on the fifty three man
roster who weren't on this team last season. So there
are a lot of new faces. You know, Bill Belichick
and Robert crab they did a lot of investing during
the offseason and in free agency John Smith, Hunter, Henry Nelson, Agalore,
(34:04):
and we really haven't seen anything from those investments just yet.
So I don't know, Joy, my confidence is it's kind
of low. I'm not gonna lie, it's kind of low. Well,
I mean like that's that's that's good perspective though, because
I mean I think that Belichick obviously he knows Brady,
so you know, defensively, he would have something for him.
(34:26):
But if they're struggling right now, then and that's an issue.
And then they definitely struggled against the Saints. What has
been your impression of Mac Jones so far? My impression
of Mac Jones so far is that he's as advertised.
Like I know, going into the NFL Draft, all the
talk was about how you know, Mac Jones isn't as
athletic as a justin field or you know, any of
(34:48):
the other quarterbacks in the first round. However, I think
that Max Jones is in the perfect situation for him
with Josh McDaniels at all as his offensive coordinator, and
then you have Bill Belichick obviously at that head coach,
and I think that they put him in positions to
be successful, which is why we're seeing him be successful
on the field for these first couple of weeks of
his NFL career. You match him up with any of
(35:11):
the other rookie quarterbacks that came out of this class,
and he's by far doing the best. And I think
that's because of the situation that he's in. So, you know,
I think I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that,
you know, we know that Bill Belichick, he I want
to say, values, values a lot of the fact that
that Mac Jones is able to in take a lot
of information and process that information quickly, which is why
(35:33):
he's won that starting job. And I think for me
seeing that lead from you know, Mac Jones being in
college to where he is right now, that's just been
the biggest surprises that he is as advertised, because as
you know, that doesn't happen all the time, right I
would I think Mac Jones is going to be crazy nervous. Actually,
we're talking about Tom Brady and Bob Jacket. The fans
(35:55):
like Max over there, just just a little baby across
from the goat twenty one years older in his house,
the house of Tom Brady Bilt. So I would love
to talk to Mac as well and get get what
he's feeling going into this game. Um, but it's gonna
be a great matchup. We're all looking forward to it
Sunday night. Thank you for joining us. Amina. You can
check her out NBC Sports Boston, Amina Jade TV on

you so much for joining us. Enjoy the game. Thank
you used to have a good one. We will be
back on the other side with Joy's full house. Is
that what we called it? Is that what it is?
I don't really I think so. I think it's Oh,
thank you, Thank you Bill your contribution. You'll listen to
(36:41):
The Joy Taylor Show on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back
The Joy Taylor Show on Fox Sports Radio. Beautiful Saturday afternoon.
College football Saturday, Cincinnati Notre Dame is on the way.
No scores as yet. Michigan's up to ten on Wisconsin
and just through an interception. Is actually a favorite in
(37:03):
this game coming in. Can you believe that? Yeah, I'm
very interested to see how this game goes. I mean,
I think it would make sense that Cincinnati's favored. I
mean it is. It is a Notre Dame home game,
so I guess that's a bit curious. But um, thank
you to me to day for joining us. She was great.
Lots of interesting stuff on the situation in New England
(37:25):
with Tom Brady returning, and we'll talk to Mark Sanchez
at the bottom of the hour. But U Joy's full house,
let's go. I don't know if we're sticking with that day,
but we're gonna go with. You know what, whatever the
favorite suggestion is for that Saturday UM from Twitter is
what we'll call it. UM. But it's just my five
(37:46):
favorite games and then two picks that I really like
this weekend. So uh, these are no particular order, but
I am really interested in this Chief's Eagles game. We
got a little high on the Eagles, we got a
little crazy, and then we came back down on the
earth after that Cowboys game. But it was a division
game and Dallas is home opener. Dak Prescott is a
(38:06):
better quarterback, they have a better defense, So it's really
on the Chiefs. This isn't away game for them, and
they are at the bottom of their division right now. Again,
I'm not concerned in the long term because we do
know what this team is capable of. But listen, you
don't wanna, you don't want to go out there and
lose in Philadelphia, and it's entirely possible. So I think
(38:26):
the Chiefs will win and get back on track. But
that's a must watch game this weekend. Seahawks Niners. As
I mentioned earlier, Seahawks gotta get it together. Did a
little Sazzlow shouts Jonathan's asslow if he's listening. The Seahawks
have to get it together. They are my Super Bowl pick.
I don't like look looking at like a liar. That
Niners team is no joke. It's a divisional matchup. Seahawks
(38:47):
are one and two right now and it's uh, it's
not looking good for them to lose this game. It
will be the first time Russell Wilson has lost three
in a row in his career, and that division is
too tough to go down one in three at the
beginning of the season. Cardinals Rams battle of the undefeated
in that division. This game will set the winner apart
(39:11):
from the rest of the division if it is the Cardinals. Man,
I was not high enough on the Cardinals coming into
the season. They are the most fun watch to me
in the NFL right now. They are just fun Kyler Murray,
those receivers, Chandler Jones, They're just fun to watch. So
Cardinals Rams. Obviously, everyone here in Los Angeles is. Um,
(39:34):
it's going crazy over the Rams right now, as they
should be. They look great. Steelers Packers, so uh, there's
nothing to the Packers, but the Steelers's gotta win this game. Uh,
the season's seasons basically over right if they lose this game.
I mean I don't have them as a playoffs team anyway,
but they just look terrible. They're they're so rundown. They
(39:56):
gotta get this game, and then they're not going to
But also on a Pittsburgh Fans film, I'm gonna have
them on there. And then of course Buccaneer's Patriots. I mean,
what's I'm looking at Gronk's face right now? Um on
the USA A commercial, He's not gonna be there, but
Tom Brady is, and we are all learning to be
locked in on that game, all right. My two picks
are Panthers will call him two dimes joyceful House. I
(40:17):
don't know what we're calling this anyway. Panthers plus four
and a half at Dallas. I know the Dallas defenses
were playing great, but four and a half points is
a lot to give the Panthers. And then Broncos ravens
Lamar Jackson is a little banged up right now. This
is uh, this is the real one. The Broncos. If
you're for real, you beat the Ravens, I'll take you seriously.
So I like the Broncos. Uh to cover plus one
(40:38):
against Ravens went outright and the Panthers plus four and
a half. We'll talk to Mark Sanchez. He has the
Washington Atlanta game this Weekend's you're listening to the Joy

Mark Sanchez. My brother is in Atlanta right now for
(42:50):
the Washington football team at Atlanta Falcons this weekends. Mark
Sanchez will be on the call. Thank you for joining us, Mark,
that's Lily. Thanks for having me. Joy. I'm jealous you're
going to that fight next week. Uh well, okay, so
you'll be working Huh yes, ma'am. Yeah, I'm might try
and just catch a quick one and get up there
for a couple of rounds and come back. Where will
(43:12):
you be next weekend? Uh? Forty niners at Arizona? Um? Okay.
I mean you probably know some people with some private planes.
They can probably get you around that. I know some people.
I'm talking to Joy Taylor on the Joy Taylor Show.
I was hoping you give me a ride. Uh. This
this is a very important show. Mark. You're right, but
I am not. I'm not private plane status yet. We're
working on it. Trust me. That's basically the only reason
(43:34):
why I work. Eventually, I want to be able to
fly private when I want, and to have a driver.
That's that's that's it, That's all I need. I don't
need fifteen houses, you know, I don't need a lot
of bling minor. It's just someone to drive me. Everywhere,
and I can fly private when I went. So you
are in Atlanta right now for the Washington football team
(43:55):
Atlanta Falcons this weekend. Um, Washington defense not not the
same as last year. It's it's it's been struggling. What's up? No,
and and it looks like they built it the right way,
right like, Hey, we're gonna rush for because we drafted
our front four and a couple of the guys in
the first round. We got everybody up front coming after you.
(44:16):
And the problem is they're not pressure in the quarterback.
I mean, Josh Allen had a ton of time. Granted
he did get the ball out quickly. He does have
a ton of weapons. So it's hard to judge against,
you know, a top kind of five team in the NFL.
But still there's just very little pressure. Chase Young has
been a non factor. And um, you know that this
(44:36):
team's at a crossroads right now of you know, really
both teams trying to figure it out on third down.
Washington's got to get you know, their defense off the
field on third down. In Atlanta's got to convert some
third down. They do such a good job on first
and second down getting into third and manageable, and they
just kind of give it away with either silly penalties
or you know, just lack of concentration on a couple
(44:59):
of catches, or you know, it's like one little detail
at the very end and it slips and and and
that's how. You know, the margin of air in this league,
as we all know, it's it's so small. So both
teams there down it's gonna be huge. We're talking to
Mark Sanchez, what's up with Kyle Pitts Selfishly, I have
him on my fantasy team and it has not been good.
You know, I think some of it's just they try
(45:21):
to put a lot on them early. Um, you could
tell on that Friday practice. You know, we get the
luxury of going to practice uh yesterday and seeing there
are down or red zone stuff, and you know, Matt
Ryan's in his ear every play, every single play, just
explaining one thing here or there. Uh, you know, they
throw off the side quite a bit, and I think
(45:42):
he's you know, he's got a chance to be one
of the great tight ends, but really a receiving tight end,
and you know it's just gonna take a little time.
It takes a little time to catch up to the speed,
to understand some of the spacing, to understand that teams
are going to try and shut you out, you know,
and make sure that that they have help on you. Uh,
they try not to u to get him one on
(46:03):
one and one on one situation because it's such a
mismatch for those defenders because he's so long and rangey.
But this has got to be a breakout week for
him to uh to kind of validate that draft position. So,
speaking of rookies, I don't know if you know this
about me, Mark, but I am a huge advocate of
starting rookies right away at the quarterback position. I do
(46:25):
think that the outlier situation is in San Francisco game
that you will be calling next week. I think they're
in a different circumstance because they do have Jimmy Garoppolo
and overall that roster is a Super Bowl contending roster
when healthy. Of course, um now the even we we
know they're gonna move out from Jimmy garopol That's what
I took trade lance. But Jimmy Garoppolo is still was
(46:46):
in a Super Bowl a few years ago and very
capable winning quarterbacks. So I think that situation is unique
I wouldn't force Tray Lance, who also does not have
a lot of experience uh in college either and and
and as of recent as we know as well, so
he's a bit more raw. But I think you learned
on the job, and I get the value of learning
(47:07):
how to be a pro. I understand quarterback position is
different than every other position. There's so much more thrown
at you. There's so much more going on, and it's
a lot to ask of these young guys. However, I
still think that they need to be out there. And
I know everyone points the Brett Farve and points of
Patrick Mahomes Batri Mahome said Alex Smith, this is a
kind of a one of one guy, and so as
(47:29):
Brett Farve was the first ballot Hall of Famer, So
I am a very big advocate of of starting young quarterbacks.
Right away, it doesn't sound like you are from that reaction,
but you said you have a very different perspective on this,
So what's going what do you think? Yeah, so my perspective,
you know, personally from my experience is I was drafted
fifth overall, but we weren't drafting fifth overall in that
(47:51):
position because the team wasn't very good. The team before
the year before had Brett Farve with the Jets. Mike
Cannerbaum knew that this team was close and they needed
a quarterback that Brett for stays healthy. That year before,
they're probably in the playoffs and I probably never go there.
But because they missed the playoffs and his you know,
his arm got banged up during the season, they drafted
(48:14):
at fifteen sixteen seventeen, right in the middle of the pack,
and so they moved up to get me. So that team,
I mean, Rex Ryant made that defense his first year,
my rookie year, a top five defense. Our rushing attack
was like top four in the NFL all time. Okay,
so we were we were a legit contender. All we
needed was a signal caller. And at times we had
(48:36):
to win in spite of the quarterback. That would be me, right,
I'd be throwing the ball to the other team, wrong
colored jersey, and we still win games. So I was
learning on the fly, But we weren't you know, just
getting you know, wax on the field in taking our lumps.
We were taking our lumps and winning, you know. So
it's it's a different scenario when you're listen. Other than
(48:56):
maybe Trevor Lawrence. Um, they just want to get him
on the field. That's like a Peyton Manning situation. That's
the Andrew Luck situation. That's a once in a generation
kind of talent kind of guy. Right, So you got
a plan. I mean, in a situation like that, you
gotta plan. But somebody that's maybe drafting that early and
doesn't have the talent around their quarterback, you can pick
(49:17):
up some bad habits. You can destroy his confidence. It's
you know, it's like playing a little bit of pickup
basketball at times, right, Like you might learn a couple
of things, but you're also gonna learn some bad habits
and you don't want to pick those up. So you know,
Zach Wilson's running for his life out there in New York.
It's tough. It's really really tough while you're trying to
learn everything else. Would be nice if you had a
(49:37):
good veteran in front of him, even if you just
made it halfway through the season, just to teach him
a little bit, just to show in the ropes a
little bit. But but most teams don't have that luxury.
But now, I mean, we talked about since two right,
all the young quarterbacks playing, because once Joe Flacco and
Matt Ryan busted on the scene, then everybody after that
had to start because they both made the playoffs, which
was unheard of as a rookie. But now out with
(50:00):
the new quarterback or with the new um draft scaling
situation right the way, everything's just slotted. You pick up
your quarterback in the first round for essentially cheaper than
you used to right before the two c bas ago,
right when guys were getting fifty sixty seventy million dollars
right out of college. That now you're getting you know,
(50:21):
plus or whatever guaranteed, so it's not nearly the cap hit,
which means you could do what the Rams did with
Jared Goff. They will give him potentially four or five years.
Let's see how he is. Let's load up this roster
and not make it all on the quarterback. We can
win with some gadget place. We can win with ballers
at receiver and a great running game with Todd Gurley.
(50:42):
We could do it with you know, uh, an explosive defense.
We can go get Aaron Donnald. We can pay Jalen Ramsey,
right because you have money to spend in other places.
So now you get the three four year deal for
that first round quarterback, and after three or four years,
it's like, are you good enough or not? And so
that's the new that's the new mode of gms and
(51:03):
and coaches. It's like a three or four year plan
when really, I mean, you gotta give these guys four
to five in my opinion, to know if it's really
gonna work. We're talking to Mark Sanchez. I agree. I
I think that's the way to build a team. Now,
Like it's not even I think like that is the
way to build a team. You're seeing that's what happened
with Patrick Moms, Like, that's what they're we're doing with
(51:24):
Lamar Jackson, that's what they're doing with Baker Mayfield. Like
you you don't have to pay the quarterback as much
if you have a rookie quarterback, so load up the roster.
But my thing about them playing is like, so I'm
let's just pin this to Justin Fields, right, Like, obviously
the Bears are not a good team, right, but Justin
Fields still has playmaking ability and still needs to learn
(51:45):
the NFL game. So you're not going to make the playoffs.
This year, right, So why not give him the extra experience,
like the fact that Matt Maggie hasn't declared him a starter.
I also think that there's something to like building confidence
and that this is my team, team, right, Like Zach
Wilson is a captain, Trevor Lawrence is a captain. Like
that's their team. They know what their responsibilities are. They're
(52:07):
they're learning to go to the mic and speak to
the media and like you know, ride the waves and
learn that part of being a franchise quarterback. And you
take that from them when you don't put them in
that situation. So I just I don't see the value
in that part of it. If if you're specifically talking
about the Chicago Bears, Yeah, I think so. For for
Matt Maggie, what he's trying to do, because he lived
(52:29):
this situation in Kansas City with Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes,
he's trying to just emulate that, just replicate it. And
granted maybe, uh, you know, Andy Dalton isn't quite Alex Smith,
but he's pretty close, right, Like solid quarterback can play
middle of the pack, usually played in playoff games, takes
(52:49):
care of the football. I mean, that's not a bad
guy for Justin Fields to learn from. And you know,
Justin Fields doing the scout team against a really good
defense all season long, just like Mahomes. That's that's the
mode he's in and that's you know, Matt Maggie's experience,
so you could tell that's what he's doing. Now. The
thing that threw a curve ball and the whole works
(53:11):
here like the monkey rents and the works here is
Andy got hurt. That's what screwed everything up. Now, this
fan base that was, you know, begging for Justin Fields.
If Andy would have won that game and didn't get
hurt at home their first home start, we called the game.
It's a no brainer. Everybody was fired up for that game.
It was all good because Andy was playing well. Sure,
(53:32):
granted he goes three and out or throws the pick,
I mean, that place is gonna explode and they're all
gonna be calling for Justin Field. But still he was
doing fine. He was staying ahead of it, right, and
if he's not hurt, he's still the starter because they
he does give them probably the best chance to win
just based off of experience, understanding down and distance, taking
(53:55):
care of the football, all that. But here's here's the
tough part is when Justin Fields did get the nod,
I would have expected, you know, ten no brainer completions.
I would have had every screen in the book up
that week. I would have repped those twenty times each
just to make sure we could get him tend completion,
you know what I mean, Like like as much quick game,
(54:16):
as much movement throws, as many nakeds and and easy
just pitching cats type plays. I would have all those up,
in my opinion, just just to give him a chance, right,
just to get it off the ground, just to even
if you have to mickey mouse it and piece this
thing together, fine, all you gotta do is get through
a game, right, Like, get through the first quarters, see
where we're at. Okay, let's let's figure out where we are.
(54:39):
But keep just feeding this kid easy completions. Um, that
would have been my game, plann if we're going with
Justin Fields and and granted teams would catch onto that
very fast, but you cross that bridge when you get there. Right.
This isn't like, oh we gotta win ten in a row.
Let's just get through a game. Yeah, Myles Garrett had
something to say about that, couple times. Oh my god,
over the place I felt. I mean it's tough though,
(55:02):
when you listen, when you get into those starting longs
and the defensive line knows, hey, man, there's a track meet.
We're gonna pin our ears back and just meet at
the quarterback. I mean that is it's tough from the
old line. It's tough on the rookie quarterback. His TimeClock
speeds up. I mean, that's like the last thing you
want him to have to do right, because it's the
toughest thing. So you try, and you're trying to avoid
(55:22):
those pitfalls if you can, or or limit those numbers
of pure dropback passes to the fewest you possibly can.
We're talking to Mark Sanchez on the Joy Taylor Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Before I let you go, there
are there are a few contenders that are struggling right now,
the Seahawks, the Chiefs, and the Colts. Um. I won't
(55:42):
put the Steelers in that conversation because I don't think
that they're contending team anyway, But um, which of those
teams are you most concerned about? Because for me, it's
the Seahawks in that division. I have faith the Chiefs
we'll bounce back this week against the Eagles and the Colts,
you know, obviously have some injury issues, but division is
still not great. So to me, the Seahawks are the
(56:02):
most concerning, especially this weekend having San Francisco. But who
who's been the most shocking to you? I'd absolutely agree
with the Colts. Like you said, just injury riddled right now,
and that's that's tough. I mean, once you once you
get bit by the injury bug, I mean, all bets
are off. It's hard to judge where they're gonna end
up based on how healthy they can be. As far
(56:24):
as the Chiefs go, you just feel like, you know,
you're you're just never really worried about them because of
all their firepower, right even um, you know, a couple
of years back, I want to say, when their defense
was really struggling and they had to win, you know,
in these shootouts every week, you just kind of have confidence, like,
all right, they'll they'll figure it out there Like the
Golden State Warriors, no matter what, they're gonna score thirty points,
(56:46):
so they'll be okay. With the Seahawks, I'm just a
little concerned because you know, Coach Carroll we called their
game last week against Minnesota, and they just kind of
ran out of juice a little bit in the second quarter.
And it all started on a on a silly third
down play where on the back side of a route,
not even a part of the play where Kirk Cousins
(57:06):
is looking, they they give him a free first down
by holding a receiver that's like not even a part
of I mean, he's in the route combination, but so
far back. It was just silly, right boom. Ever, since
that play happened, I mean, it's like the Vikings never
looked back and the Seahawks just completely lost their mojo
on that one drive. And after that, the crowd got
(57:28):
into it. They started getting farther and farther behind. They
almost had a big splash play and a comeback from
Russell Wilson. It didn't quite pan out, and then it
looked like they're real and a little bit and and
my fear for them is just because of their division,
like you said, that is that's what's tough, because those
other squoats. I mean, those guys are gonna rip off
some wins here. You know, can go on a five six,
(57:49):
seven game win streak, no problem. Same thing with the Rams.
They just beat the defending chance. I mean, they look unbelievable,
and then who's gonna stop Kyler Murray? Right, maybe it's
not a sustainable way to play, but you gotta play
him twice a year. I mean that's those are two
tough ballgames. So that to me is my fear that
that division can run away from them quickly if they
(58:11):
go on a losing streak early. Yeah, I'm concerned about
them as well. Thank you so much for joining us, Mark,
I really appreciate it. Make sure you check out Mark
Sanchez on the call tomorrow Washington at Atlanta, the Washington
football team. Thanks Mark, enjoy your day. Appreciate it. Guess
take care. We will talk to Jessina Anderson at the
bottom of the hour. She has just joined CBS Sports
(58:35):
and um I want to get her perspective on this
weekend's and she has she has some nuggets to um
all time reporter and someone asked her about, you know,
the Watson situation, which she has a report on this week.
It's going on with Lamar Jackson, um in the rookie
quarterbacks as well. So we'll talk to Josina at the
bottom of the hour coming up next? Are we being
unfair to Bill Belichick? We'll discuss the Joy Taylor Show
(58:59):
on Fox Sports right now, Joey Taylor Show on Fox
Sports Radio. How about that super Bowl halftime show line up? Okay,
see j Amazing, Dr Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop, Kendrick,
Lamar Eminem forty three Grammys on that stage for the
(59:22):
halftime show. I am looking forward to it. Obviously, the
super Bowl is here in beautiful Los Angeles this year.
We're excited about it, and that halftime show is gonna
be awesome. Everyone always gets real opinionated about the halftime show,
and I overwhelmingly saw nothing but a positive reaction. So
it's a legends on that stage. It's pretty awesome. We're
(59:45):
gonna talk to Josina Anderson at the bottom of the hour.
Thank you to Mark Sanchez and Imana Jade Smith NBC
Boston for joining us earlier. So I tease before the
break talking about Bill Belichick, Are we being a little
unfair to him? And I think that we probably are.
Bill Belichick is the greatest coach in NFL history, and
(01:00:10):
it's similar to Tom Brady not being debated as the
goat anymore. Neither is Bill Belichick like he's he's still
the greatest. Now, look start with Mac Jones. Been a
little bumpy last year, a little bumpy. Well last year
was COVID and he had eight opt outs, and Cam
Newton showed up right before the season started, no off
season and then got COVID. It was there's a lot
(01:00:31):
going on. So I'm gonna give him a pass on
last year. And I think that the pilot look, he
obviously wasn't involved in this book that has recently come out.
This is not a lot of flattering things about him
so far from the experts that we've received about Bill Belichick.
And currently Tom Brady is winning the divorce. And generally
(01:00:53):
when these things happened, these big public breakups happen, whoever
initially lands in the in the positive light gets rewarded
as the winner. And I'll say Tom Brady leaving and
immediately winning a Super Bowl at an organization that has
been habitually underachieving, slash dysfunctional, it's not at times he's
(01:01:16):
a win like that's it's an overall win in the
legacy book of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. And I
think that it definitely changed how at least for me,
how I looked at that dynasty in New England as
far as whether it wasn't more Belichick, wasn't more Brady,
and I currently feel then it's more Brady than it
was Belichick. Not like obviously he's the coach. Brady doesn't
(01:01:38):
play an entire side of the ball that Belichick specializes in.
But Brady is the winner like he's He was the
engine that made that go. Whether Bill Belichick will recreate
another engine to make the Patriot Way go, we we
will see. But it's pretty obvious that Brady brings winning
wherever he goes, and he's shown that in Tampa Bay
(01:02:02):
and it's been incredibly impressive and obviously they want a
super Bowl and he's amazing. He's the goat. But let's
not get too crazy with the Belichick not being you know,
kind and receptive and you know, cuddly with with Tom Brady. Now,
I'm on the player's side almost all the time. If
(01:02:24):
I am a coach, I'm doing things differently, and I
do think you have to evolve. And that's the conversation
that I mean I mentioned earlier where Alex Guerrero, Tom
Brady's longtime trainer was talking about Bill Belichick and how
he treated Tom Brady like he was twenty when he
was forty, and I'm with you. I'm with you there,
Like legendary coaches change what they do all the time
(01:02:45):
and still keep their identity. Nick Saban clearly has leaned
into offense. That's pretty obvious. He's adjusted. John wouldn't change
some things for Kareem like you can, you can. You
can move things around, Jimmy Johnson, I treat everyone the
same different You can move things around as a legendary
(01:03:05):
coach and still keep your identity and your mantra. But
you just you come across certain players, We've gotta do
things a little differently. And you can't treat Tom Brady
like he's a sixth round draft pick when he's the
most you know, decorated quarterback and player in NFL history.
That said, Bill Belichick is still legends, and I don't
(01:03:27):
want to bail entirely on what he did there and
what he built in that dynasty. I I don't Belichick
is not going to tell his story like that's just
not his style until he's done playing. And I like,
obviously I think tom Brady is not going to play
until he's fifty, but who knows. I don't make a
(01:03:48):
living guessing when tom Brady is gonna retire. But when
we do get both of them away from the sport
and get the stories, when we get a fuller picture
of what and how everything happened, I believe I will
still be on tom Brady's side. But we're just not
getting the full perspective right now. That's pretty obvious. Um.
And like like I talked about with the Mina, like,
(01:04:09):
no one's really surprised that, like Brady and Check, it's deteriorated.
I mean, we heard Zell talking about it. He wants
to go to work and feel appreciated, and you know,
things probably could have been handled differently. And also things
come to an end sometimes. So all I'm saying is,
let's not get crazy piling on Bill Belichick. We all
loved it when he was there and Tom Brady was
(01:04:31):
together and they were winning. Um, we'll see how it
evolves moving forward, if the Patriot Wake can sustain without
the engine of Tom Brady. But we'll see. I'll ask
our Sina Joe Cina Anderson about it after we find
out what's trending, Joey. We get a couple of van
tees early on from Notre Dame quarterbacks Inincinnati end Notre Dame.
(01:04:54):
Right now, it's scoreless as it stands. And as soon
as I say that, Abologists went in the end zones.
Now the Bearcats two leads to to nothing, penning a
p T to both teams. Undefeated on the season. Georgia
had no problems at all today with Arkansas Kier respect
deep again to receive the punt on our forty seven.
If we bucket, we're dining on it. We got it,
(01:05:14):
we got it, punt touchdown Dogs. Georgia wins today. Thirty
seven nothing was the final score in that ball game. Meanwhile,
Michigan thirty eight seventeen over Wisconsin Southern cal is actually
starting some points today. They lead right now at Colorado
twenty seven. Keen slows two here and twenty yards from
the air, two touchdowns. This ball game is at the
break number sixteen Coast to Carolina over Louisiana Monroe twenty
(01:05:39):
eight to three, Ole Miss and Alabama. It's about to
get things underweight, and about five minutes from now, you've
got that one, Joey, You've got the Crimson Taddy at
the Rebels, you got Kiffin, you got Nick, we got
I think it'll be a competitive game. Um, but I'm
gonna I'm gonna go with all Nick, all Nick Saban
and this one they're playing. So does that mean get
(01:06:00):
the Crimson time wood Shock or without. I mean they're
like fifteen point favorites. Uh yeah, yeah, I think they.
I think they cover. He's never lost soon assistant today. Yeah,
you better not today. I bet to you Discover matches

J Cina, thank you so much for joining us today.

how are you doing? You have all this stuff going on?
(01:06:43):

I uh well, like I started working for a USA today.

I won't go in bore you guys with um. And
then I also just launched The Crew this week with

Godfather of Harlem he plays Muhammad Ali on that show
(01:07:25):

no introduction, and then also Josh Norman as well, so
you guys can find that on The Crew show dot
com and also my Twitter and social handles as well. Amazing,
we love to hear it. Well, there's a big game, gods,
I forgot to say, and I started working for CV.
Yeah yess sports as well. Yeah by the way, Yeah,
(01:07:51):
so's like a couple of days ago. Yeah, there you go. Well,
congratulations on everything. UM, so glad it's going well. So
check her out everywhere. Um, you can follow her on
social media of course at Josina Anderson and keep up
with everything that she is doing. So this weekends, we
have a pretty big matchup, a legendary sports story happening
in Tom Brady returning to New England's It's it's been
(01:08:14):
a little rough on Bill Belichick this week probably been
a little rough on Bill Belichick since he's left and
won the Super Bowl. But um, what what are you
most interested in about Sunday's matchup? Well, I think first
and foremost is just the pre game. I think the
pre game in and of itself is going to be
pretty interesting to watch. So if I were going through
this game, and I'm not on the road yet because
(01:08:36):
I'm still, you know, setting up the infrastructure of everything
that I'm doing, But if I were there, I would
be totally on the sidelines trying to get the video
of just what happened, to see if Tom Brady and
Build Belichick, if they interact. Obviously, if Rob Gronkowski were
not out, you know, I would have been watching that
as well, and just to kind of see what their
(01:08:57):
whole demeanor is, even if he connects with Josh McDaniels,
who he worked with so for so long as his
offensive coordinator, Um, you know, and just to get an
idea of his demeanor. Does he come in there totally
you know, eyeside, totally focus, kind of have his dmx
S wag and thugging it. I'm not talking to nobody,
like or is he gonna just be you know, Okay,
(01:09:20):
what's up. Let's do this quick hug, you know, and
then slip back into my game mode and then after
the game, we'll see what's popping, you know what I mean. Yeah,
I'm I'm really interested. It's I mean, it sounds weird,
but I want to see if Belichick and m hug.
I think they like shake hands and do the side
arm grab thing for a couple of seconds and then
move on. And it definitely happens before the game with
(01:09:40):
I'm with you, it's a pre game. It doesn't happen
after the game. And and and who knows, it might
not even be that maybe they don't even do it
because it's just too awkward, or because maybe they're just
both media conscious that they know it'll be talked about,
so they just kind of get it out the way.
But definitely, you know, it's not even just for the
first two minutes before the aime, Like if you could
(01:10:00):
just kind of see that live and the cameras be
hovering over for like the first kind of fifteen thirty
minutes before the game. I would be definitely hawking that.
We're talking to Josina Anderson on the Joy Taylor Show
on Fox Sports Radio. So you have a little bit
of insight on the Deshaun Watson situation. Um, so it's
obviously he's you know, going to be moved eventually. I
(01:10:25):
obviously follow the story very closely because it involves the
Dolphins into UH and UM, so what what's the latest
with that situation right now? So a few days ago,
you know, we heard the report about you know, kind
of keeping the eye on the Dolphins situation, so I
just kind of wanted to kind of follow up. Um,
you know, the Dolphins and the UH Texans as well
(01:10:48):
as other teams have kind of been connected to potential
uh you know, trade acquisition for Deshaun Watson. And what
I heard, what I thought was interesting first and foremost. Um,
and obviously this can always change, you know, trade talks
are fluid, and so are the compensation talks as well.
But um, as of when I've initially reported it, what
(01:11:10):
I heard that the compensation request from the text in
the three first rounds and three additional assets that could
be a combination of whatever draft pick you know, players
or you know what have you. And moving on to
the team, starting with Miami your Dolphins there, UM, what
I'd heard is that the last time they had substantive
talks over the specifics of the compensation package was training camp,
(01:11:35):
and I thought that was interesting because the Dolphins obviously
have to ayloa on I R with the fractured rips
and Jacobe Brissette it started. So even with that occurrence, UM,
it hasn't brought uh talked back to the table with
regards to the granular details. And my understanding with that
(01:11:57):
is that there are people among the dog fince brands
who are interested in, you know, pulling the trigger or
at least at some point have expressed that. But the trepidation,
or at least the impression is is that the owner
UM has not been all the way comfortable with Deshaun
Watson situation being in flux with regards to not having
(01:12:17):
any clear uh resolution at this point. Now, settlement talks,
joy can always happen at any point between Sean and
the parties that are involved, so that can happen. But
my understanding, as I reported, is that the depositions in
the civil case start early next week either choose the
or Wednesday. Uh. The state has not yet indicated when
(01:12:37):
the criminal case would be presented to the grand jury.
So with all of that self influx, okay, UM, And
like I said, a settlement can happen at any time.
That could change it at least civilly. UM, an owner
pretty much has to decide whether that be the Eagles,
whether that be the Dolphins. I've heard no new team
has entered the talks as of when I reported it.
UM is that UH can't will you go ahead and
(01:13:00):
trade for Deshaun without having complete clarity over the situation?
UM with you know what it's gonna look like, you know,
in terms of how all of this stuff is going
to play out. And the last point I'll just tell you,
Joy is that the reason why you know he is
fitting out and the league hasn't stepped in is because
he's not pressing to play with the Texans. If he
(01:13:22):
were pressing to play with the Texans, that may force
the you know, the league to have, you know, make
some sort of determination of its own, although it would
not like to do that product to an official word
from the courts and what have you and the officials
in Texas. But if and when he gets traded, obviously
Deshaun wants, his desire to play will change. And so
at that point the league has to decide, Okay, is
(01:13:44):
this an exemplest thing is it not? Are we are
we gonna, you know, do some sort of discipline before
there's clarity or not. So those are the additional mitigating
circumstances that an owner, whether it be Stephen Ross, whether
it be Jeff Lauri or who have you, would probably
want to know behind the scenes that underneath its table
to have some sort of idea if and how long
he would be out either prior to conclusion to the
(01:14:05):
case we're talking to just Sina Anderson, Joey Taylor, Seawan,
Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, that's so. Will teams be able
to build in something into the trade if they do
move forward with the trade that will term them if
he can't play next year with the amount of picks
that they would be giving up. I mean, that would
(01:14:25):
be between the two teams to kind of determine, you know,
what that conditional situation looks like. And for both sides
to you know, agree to that um. And obviously you
have to have the information from the other party, which is,
you know, the league to get some sort of advanced
indication as to what that would be. And then you
have the unpredictable, sort of predictable element, which is, how
(01:14:48):
is the community going to react relative to the team
that looks like they would push the dice in front
of the table and go ahead and move forward. Um.
In terms of you know, even when I tweeted out
the new you know, there was you know, some reaction
to oh there's a lot of this and da da
da da da. Even Cowboys fans are like, oh, remember
how Ricky Oli was treated or you know Adian Peterson
(01:15:09):
or you know other cases in the past. So it
would be really interesting even as a reporter myself, I
kind of want to get this answer, hopefully within the
next three days. Is what is the temperature to how
the league would react? Because the trade deadline is November two,
that's the deadline. What is it today? Today? Is literally
a month from there, you go, So literally a month
(01:15:29):
from today is the trade deadline. After that, if the
shan sticks to you know, not wanting to play, then
then he's not going to play the rest of the season,
and this is it becomes moot, right, It's just it's
such an it's such a nuanced conversation around the entire thing.
And you're right, what is the what is the community reaction?
What is the reaction from fans um? And and he
(01:15:53):
also has a no trade cause in his contract, so
he can veto a trade as well. And the the
whole situation is very complicated. I I personally don't understand
from the Dolphin's perspective to your point, you're just saying
that there's this conversation happened during training camp, Like if
you're going to have this conversation, you almost have to
(01:16:14):
do it because now you have completely at least to me,
devalued and and shown that you don't have full confidence
in to uh, well, you know, the reality is is
that you know, welcome to life, right, welcome to life.
You know where yes, you know you have to prove
(01:16:35):
yourself in your job week to week. And it's not
unless you are in the rarefied air of the Tom
Brady and Aaron Rodgers. You know, even though you are
a quarterback, um, they are looking to um upgrade the competition,
and so even though to I'm sure it's heard this,
and because this has been out there for a while, yes,
(01:16:55):
when he gets back from i R, it behooves him
to play well. And I don't know if Steven Ross
wants to continue to let it play out. There was
a report two days ago, uh you know from wherever.
There was a report two days ago saying that the
Eagles were ready to green light and the owner was
ready to green light, and then Alo and then I said,
well in my report, well if they're ready to green light,
(01:17:16):
well then we'll where the trade doesn't happen yet. So
obviously people continue to wait whatever it is, to see
whatever and whatever, and it can happen. It could happen today,
it could happen tomorrow, but it didn't happen two days ago.
And I don't know if the Eagles want to continue
to see how jail it hurts. I mean, you even
have that element to to see how your current quarterbacks
(01:17:37):
are continuing to play or if you're going to make
that full pivot. I mean, yesterday evening I was on
the phone to speak of my co host on the
show more Stress that of the crew, and he's a
so much Eagles fan, and we were talking about, you know,
how long do you continue to give you know, hurt um,
you know, time before you really make that pivot and decide, okay,
you're gonna go full bore, either with a trade or
(01:17:58):
start to look towards the draft. So there's just so
many things that you're having to kind of, um, you know,
keep aware of because they did make that investment into TWA.
And there are members of the fan base of the
Dolphins fan base who are connected to two as well. Yeah, no,
they they absolutely are to it's a two hive, and
they are aggressive. They love to um. Are more aggressive
than the Bee Hive. Um. They're they're close. There's not
(01:18:21):
as many there's there's more in the Bee Hive, but
they are. They are very protective of tua UM. Thank
you so much for joining us, Jessina. Make sure that
you check her out. We'll follow her on social media
at Josina Anderson um now at CBS Sports and with
USA Today and the Crew and Undefined and everywhere, and
we love it. Thank you so much. Josina. Hey Joy,
(01:18:41):
you're the best. Keep it lacked on her show. Appreciate it, guys.
Thank you. Thank you, just Sina. We will be back
on the Joy Taylor Show on Fox Sports Radio with
the Picks Joyce Full House of Picks next. Hey, I
like that little burner boy for you on Saturday. It's
(01:19:07):
super hot out here in l A. Um, no one
who's not in Los Angeles cares about that. But thank
you for joining me today on Fox Sports Radio for
the Joy Taylor's Show. We're here every Saturday from two
to four pm Eastern. Steve Hartman and Jeff Short's coming
up right after me. Thank you to Mark Sanchez, who
(01:19:28):
will be on the Call Washington football team at the
Atlanta Falcons this Weekend's Amina Jade Smith of NBC Boston,
who will undoubtedly be there in the building for Tom
Brady's return to Gillette Anti Jucina Anderson, who had a
lot of great information on the Deshaun Watson situation, which
(01:19:52):
is of course ongoing, and who knows. But again, like
I just I think I think it's a huge risk
if you can't have a built in guarantee that he's
gonna be able to play next year, which you know
at this point, how can you even how can you
do that? So? Um, she had a lot of great information.
To make sure if you missed any of it, you
can check out the podcast, which will post later um
(01:20:13):
on social media at Joey Taylor Talks. So we are
Cincinnati is up ten nothing on Notre Dame. Right now,
we have Oklahoma, Kansas States, Crimson Tide, Roll Tide, and
Ole Miss has begun as well as Oregon and Stanford.
So we'll keep you updated throughout the day on all
(01:20:35):
of the college football games. And it's Week four in
the NFL. Actually kind of exciting Jacksonville Cincinnati game on Thursday,
and we kind of brushed over it because of those
two teams, but the Bengals look good and I actually
thought that it was a it was a moral victory
night for Jacksonville. You got to see a little bit
from Trevor Lawrence. I know irber Meyer's heartbroken over these losses,
(01:20:56):
but you gotta you gotta take a little a little
bit of growth here and there. They did a good
job stopping the run in the first half. Trevor Lawrence
had some moments. Jacksonville is not gonna be a good
team this year. So it's it's all right that that
you're losing. You just want to see growth throughout the year.
I thought it was actually a really entertaining game. And
we will get the rest of the week four matchups
(01:21:18):
tomorrow and of course Monday nights Chargers Raiders. But let
me quickly give you my full house, my picks, my
five favorite games this weekend, and two picks. Um. My
two picks are the Panthers plus Moore and a half
at Dallas. I think Moore and half is a is
a little too much to be giving the Panthers right now.
And Broncos over Ravens. Broncos moneyline, Um, Lamar is a
(01:21:42):
little banged up. Denver has been doing a lot of
good things lately, um, and a lot of people think
they're really legit. I'm not so sure. I guess we'll
find out this weekend. Um. And I'm I'm gonna go
with them over the Ravens this weekend. So my five
favorite games this weekend obviously Buccaneers of Patriots. We have
talked about all day today a Sunday night game. We
will all be locked in, as Josina said, even in
(01:22:04):
the pregame, probably especially in the pre game, to see
what those interactions are and how he has received Steelers
at Packers and it's basically a Steeler season on the line.
I think they're gonna lose badly. Ben is uh, it's
not going out in grace. It's kind of disappointing. Cardinals
at Rams two, undefeated in an NFC West. Ram's the
best watching football to me. I mean, I'm sorry, Cardinals,
best watching football to meet right now. Rams playing unbelievable
(01:22:27):
Seahawks and Niners other NFC West matchup. Very important game
for the Seahawks. Do not want to start the year
one in three. Russell Wilson's never lost three games in
a row in his career At Chiefs Eagles. I think
the Chiefs will win easily. It is at Philadelphia, but
this is an important game for the Chiefs have been
struggling as of late, and I think they need to
have a really convincing, confidence, re invigorating win over the
(01:22:51):
Philadelphia Eagles, which I believe they will do, but I'm
very interested to see how that goes. Thanks so much
for joining me, Iowa, Sam Lee, stick around here on
