Speaker 1 (00:02):
Fox Sports Radio. Oh, let's go, stink go, Let's go
how my cowboys? How about this tonight? You know, that's
one time or one thing that I do wish professional

(00:23):
and you know, collegiate sports kind of do. You'll come
to an agreement every now that night. For instance, something
different happened in a college game this year, as we
welcome you in to Arnie and Plank on Fox Sports Radio,
Danny g running the show, Bobbo's on Cloud nine right
now with the way his cowboys are playing, Steve to
say growing up, they're still trying to figure out if
that was the Houston Texans. Would like to Shawn Watson

(00:45):
that went out there and did that today. But Artie,
there was a college game that I covered this year.
We're at the start of the fourth quarter. They came
on and said, all right, we're gonna play this quarter
five minutes shorter. So instead of instead of the typical
at fifteen minute quarter, this will only be a ten
minute quarter. And I was like, what what, I never
heard of that before in my life. Can't do that?

(01:06):
What about gambling and justice? Go? I know, well, I
think they were playing like a D three school at
the time. But Artie running clock right, I mean, come on,
it's fifty six to seven, the over's hit, the spread
is not in danger. Jeff Schwartz can go to bed.
His backdoor cover for Washington isn't coming. I mean, what,

(01:27):
I you know, you joke a lot on this show,
and because I do think it's a joke about trying
to find something else to watch when a game gets
out of see Law and Order. That's the most things
that are on. I mean, could I blame anyone that
doesn't dig the Dallas Cowboys for wanting to move on
from this game tonight as early Artady is maybe the
end of the first quarter, especially if you want to

(01:49):
move on to like the NBA or something like that too.
Um um, what is this NBA that's too crazy? Well,
I I do want to point out it's it's unfortun
in it whenever the NFL comes and takes the day
that you're supposed to dominate all the headlines. And the
only thing I hear about the NBA is who isn't playing?
Not not what's going on in the court. And I'm

(02:12):
telling you what right now, the NBA better be praying
for let's see so three next year. You'll have the
NFL because O two. Next year, Christmas will be on
a Sunday, right, Christmas will be on the boy. The
NBA really better be looking forward to because that's when
they can have their Christmas Day back. But listen, we're
not here to talk about that, an We're here to

(02:34):
talk about playoffs. Well, listen, let's let's get a win
for your Dolphins tomorrow night. And and okay, uh minus
Ian Book and minus Kwana are excuse me, minus Taysom Hill,
minus I don't even know who that. Trevor Simeon insert
Ian Book, minus Kwon Alexander insert their fourth strem linebacker. Yeah, Artie,

(02:57):
I think you should be feeling pretty good about the door.
Afraid if you were a Dolphin fan, who would you
be afraid of more Drew Brees or Philip Rivers. Probably
Drew Brees, to be honest with you right now, And
I know they made the call. I know they made
the call, but I do kind of dig Drew Brees reaction.

(03:20):
You shouldn't be worried, Arnie. Listen, I know you're trying
to scare away every single listener by getting right to
the fact that your Dolphins, if they win tomorrow night,
will control their own well, and I guess technically for today,
they like about five or six other teams, control their
own destiny to make the playoffs. But get this in
the valued if the season ended today, conversation, if the

(03:43):
season ended after you beat New Orleans tomorrow night, you'd
be the seventh seat. How about that for a team
that started out what won five, one and six? That's
pretty damn good. Wow, So we'd be in the playoffs
after after tomorrow, that's right. If the Dolphins win tomorrow
night after against New Orleans, that seventh seed where Baltimore
is right now in the a f C, that would

(04:05):
be Miami. But unbelievable other than me in the entire
free planet. Well, I want you to continue to talk
about how great this is. So when your team craters
and loses team we were talking about this, well, let
me rephrase that. For three weeks, we've led the show
with it because even if I try to go in

(04:28):
another direction, you demand we go in that direction. But
for those previous five year like, um, still alive and
you're right, you're still alive. So kudos, this team went.
What am I saying? I said one to five one
and seven an absolute joke. It was a disaster with
the way things were going, and then suddenly they turned
everything around and they haven't lost since. What a bill's lost?

(04:48):
That was a tight game to Can I correct you
real quick? Go ahead? No, you said they turned it around? Yeah,
they do. He turned it around. It's two a time,
it's to a time. Congratulations on your new founder, belief
and to a tongoa. It'll be very interesting to see
how you handle it whenever they make the move this

(05:10):
offseason to go get to Shaun Watson. That's what's gonna
make it very interesting to me. Well, we got a
busy show to get to. It's already in Plank on
a Fox Football Sunday coming up. In our next segment,
Matt Verderm will recap what was I say, a crazy day.
But this whole process started on Thursday. We had a
game on Thursday, we had two on Saturday, had a

(05:30):
semi full slate today and we got Monday night football.
So we got Matt coming on, We're gonna head to
Vegas and our two. Todd Furman is back and as always,
disagre with the updates, Arnie's with the opinions. And I've
got tons of audio to take us to the locker rooms.
But listen, since your Dolphins played tomorrow night, let's table
that for the next two hours. And for me, thank you.

(05:51):
Is it wrong for me to ask for the Charger
fans to text on in what a choke that was? Huh?
I was trying to think of the worst losses this year, right,
And as far as margin of victory, that's that's not
my point, because y'all were getting it tonight as far
as margin of victory is concerned. But in and and
I can't wait until the Sacred Times in on this

(06:12):
later in the show. But in games with so much
on the line and so much to play for, to
have that kind of performance, I mean, everything went opposite
of what the Chargers had done this season, right, And
I get it. Listened, they didn't have some players due

(06:32):
to COVID, But it was the Texans who basically didn't
have a majority of their roster because of COVID and
this tank that they're not doing very well at because
they're now four and eleven. But the Chargers all season long,
they've been a team that what do they do? Arnie
left plane hammer down, We're going for it on fourth down.
You know how many times they went for it on
fourth down tonight? Zero? They go for it on fourth

(06:54):
down once, not once, So I wonder too. I'm gonna
be funny. I was dogging on to the NBA, and
I'll use an NBA analogy here. Remember the game where
I think it was against the Kings and everyone was
dogging on Kobe Bryant because they say he shoots too much.
He shoots and he passed the entire first half. I
wonder if that's what Brandon Staley did today. He's like,

(07:16):
all right, y'all give me grief for going four and
on fourth down too much. Guess what, I'm not going
at all, And look what happens. But Arnie, for a
team that was coming into this game eight and six, right,
and and everyone loves Justin Herbert, they were coming up
off arguably one of the most entertaining games of the season,
right that Chiefs Chargers game the week before Thursday Night game.

(07:38):
It was a loss, but it was hella entertaining. They
had pretty much, you know, most of their pieces there. Yes,
I know Austin Ekeler was out, Yes I know, Mike
Williams was out, but you still had justin Herbert and
to not just get beat, but to get smoked for nine.
The wild thing is in this NFL season, they got
the Broncos and the Raiders and back to back weeks

(07:59):
went two games and there's do on the playoffs. How
crazy is that? It's amazing And like you said, with
so much on the line for the play this team
was just so down and out. To give Davids Mills
a lot of credit, this guy has been you know,
nobody says a lot about him. He's quietly had a
pretty decent season. He had a fantastic game today also,
but that's just embarrassing. Uh, And nothing against Herbert. He

(08:22):
had a couple of interceptions. Wasn't his fault? Uh? That
charger defense against the run abysmal man? What was giving
a twenty yards rushing goes was on? And Rex perk
head at on your fifty yards? I don't know that
guy was still in the league for grand out loud
and it's disgusting. It really is the best NFL running

(08:42):
back ever out of Nebraska. I'm being facetious fans, but
a big performance. So it in honest in all honesty,
Arnie the lost by the Chargers, and then what the
Bengals did to the Ravens. It kind of threw that
six seventh spot in the And oh, by the way,
the Patriots getting busted up by the Bills, I mean

(09:03):
the Bills. You know how many times the Bills punted today?
They didn't. It's the first time a Bill Belichick led
defense has ever gone a game with not without forcing
a punt, So you have I didn't know that either
the whole game too, and didn't know that. Um, but
Buffalo is now in that four seed. They went out,
they win the NFC East and suddenly, listen, they're in

(09:24):
good shape right now. The percentages are high, but New
England cannot afford to stumble in their final two games
are well. And I know you've got the New England,
that you've got the Dolphins in the final week of
the season and Guires next week. But suddenly you sit
at nine and eight, if or or even ten and seven.
Ten and seven is not a gimme right now. And

(09:44):
I know that sounds crazy when you're seventh seed right
now is eight and seven. But there's also the Chargers
there at eight and seven. There's also the Raiders there
at eight and seven. The Dolphins will be eight and
seven after tomorrow night. There's even a scenario I found
out because Andrew Siciliano bless us die hard Browns fan
brought it up a thousand times at the end of
Red Zone today party. Did you know there's a scenario

(10:05):
where the Browns can still win the a f C North.
This is crazy, This is crazy talk right now, but
it's it's wild to think about how that Bills Patriots
game kind of changed a couple of narratives. Right second
straight losts for the Patriots. Suddenly you worried and you
mentioned you watched the whole damn game. Suddenly the Buffalo
Bills and Josh Allen looks like the Buffalo Bills offensively

(10:26):
that we saw early in the season. I was rooting
so hard for the Bills today. I told you before
the game, the Bills win and that meant Miami had
like a nine chance of making the playoffs if they
went out. If the Patriots would have won, that percentage
would have went down the fifty. I mean, I was
doing the math. I was crunching the numbers. I was
on that that you know playoff thing, um, you know

(10:47):
where they have all the math, and what if your
team wins? And you were arguing with me before the game,
I'm like, what are you not? Go ahead? I I
said to the proof and and now it all comes down.
Can you believe it that Miammy could be playoffs? You
sending me the proof that they were like one in
the playoffs, And I'm telling you they still need some help, right.
They gotta win the games, Arenie, And you've just because

(11:10):
they gotta still go win the games. They'll be favorite
in two of them, and the game against Tennessee they
won't have Henry, So I like our chances. They're not
gonna be favorite against the Patriots. No way. No Patriots
will beat up on Jacksonville next week and everyone all
back in love. Uh. You know what I would guarantee

(11:31):
you and your guarantees, the Dolphin will be Dolphins will
be favorite in one of those games. That's tomorrow night
against New Orleans. And if it wasn't for if Taysom
Hill was the quarterback Tomorrow night, Hell, the Saints might
be the favorite after what they did to Tampa the
week before. So congrats on calling this, Arnie. You don't
have to plant your flag and keep turning every single
freaking segment of the show back to your Dolphins prediction. Okay, Danny,

(11:54):
can you tell him good job? Bobbo, can you tell
him a good job? Because it seems like all night
tonight this is what we're gonna get told you about
the Dolphins? Man, I mean you, my god, you have
people going after my Carmen on Twitter for goodness sake
because of this. What are you doing? Well? Someone just
tell him good to pat him on the back or something, Aren'tie?
Good job, buddy? Right? Danny, good job? But Arnie you
almost called this? Is that better? I've never had anything

(12:16):
against the Dolphins, but I found myself rooting against them
just to shut Arnie up. Yeah, well, and you got
plenty time. You got plenty of time. Um so as
impressive as the Bills were in looking like the team
of old Arnie. To wrap up our first segment, I've
been waiting for you to apologize to me about your Raiders. No, no, no, no, listen,

(12:38):
I have to accept an apology on behalf of something
that I hate because I'm old enough to remember on
this show you're saying the Chiefs were done. Uh. Patrick
Mahomes isn't who he thought we was or who we
think he is. Some horrible analogy you were using. And
I warned you about this, and I told you it
was ill. It was shortsighted and ill faded to doubt
the Kansas City Chiefs. And lo and be hold, since

(13:00):
you and everyone else decided to jump on the let's
hate Kansas City train, they haven't lost a damn game, Arnie,
So thank you for making me have to somehow tell
you how great the Chiefs are. And I'll accept your
apology right now. Go ahead, you know what, I will
say this about Kansas City, even though they're the number
one seed, and I know we have said this about

(13:22):
the NFC also about it. I just get the feeling,
um that if any of those teams that we've seen
right underneath them, Mike Tennessee when they get healthy to
get Henry back, or if Burrow is gonna have a
game like he did today, or if Buffalo's defense shows up,
any one of them could be Kansas City. I'm just look,
I give him credit. You're right, I was wrong about that,
but the fact that they're going ahead, they're not as

(13:44):
strong as they were. Um, last couple of years coming
into the playoffs, I guess is what I'm saying. Did
you watch today? Down right out bad team? My friend,
a Pittsburgh Steeler team that was the talk of the
town last week, that we're betting the game. Everybody beat
Kansas City today. Everybody knew this was going to happen. Everybody, okay,

(14:08):
well everybody. I didn't see a twenty six point spread anywhere.
That was free money, free money. Todays you're saying it's
free money from someone who said they were done after
they lost earlier in the season to fall and when
Pittsburgh was done, just like just like Miami was free
money until they went to minus three. Pittsburgh's over under,

(14:29):
by the way, on win totals this season was seven,
So kind of need the boys to step up next
week in order to get that over win total. Raiders,
by the way, seven and a half hit their win
total over today. Congratulations Rich Pisaccia, welcome to unemployment. That's unfair.
That's unfair. He's done a hell of a job. But

(14:49):
even if the Raiders back into the playoffs, which is
it a definitive possibility, they're gonna get smoked by the Colts.
I think next week, I think you're gonna see big
time coaching changes. And when we come back here on
Fox Sports Radio, Matt vern Ram is gonna join us
and we'll tell you why. Tonight into tomorrow morning become
some key time for potential coaching changes. We've hit the
big games. What we've left out one as well? How

a couple of tweets here, real quick, Roger the engineer rights,
you're crazy, Arnie. The Chiefs are better than they were,
the defense is great, and Mahomes made everyone better. Plank

(16:43):
was right. Listen to him. I wouldn't gonna read that one.
That one I was gonna stay away from. I will
give you this Kanda City. How's the highest s o
v s which is strength of victories? So I will
give them that. But they I still feel like they
could be beaten. I'm not afraid everyone can be beaten.
As Matt verder M joins his fans side and we
talk to them on Sunday nights here on Fox Sports
Radio covers the NFL, Matt Arnie still doubt in these chiefs.

(17:05):
I don't know what they need to do to impress
him or to sell him. But I thought these last
couple of weeks, including not playing their best game and
still beating the Chargers, playing today without Travis Kelsey and
not even a big day from Tyreek Hill, and they
just went out and dominated today. It's a pretty impressive
run there on. Yeah, I don't know what else you
have to do for Arnie. They they pretty much destroyed

(17:28):
everybody in their way in recent weeks. I mean three
weeks ago they played the Raiders, beat them about a million,
and came back, beat the Chargers down a bunch of
guys and down a short week on the road, and
then came home and played the Steelers. Who look, I'm
not overly impressed by the Steelers. I have been all
year long. Destroyed Pittsburgh that game, that's the rare game
with thirty six to ten made that were closer than
it watch. I can't see if they want to go

(17:50):
to score fifty. It was. It was demolition and now
they have an opportunity to be the one cheat if
they can win these next two games. Won't be easy
to have to go since Saturday next week. But um,
they win the A s C West for the sixth
straight time and they're the odds on favorites get back
to the super Bowl. Well, you're gonna be a Miami fan.
Miami plays the next week, so one Tennessee laws. Uh
And that gives a little bit of breathing from for

(18:12):
Kansas City, right it does. Yeah, I mean you look
at this point, one Chiefs win and one Titans loss
is enough to clunch the uh the or alwast the
one seed. But it's it's gonna be interesting. Look, I mean,
I think the Bills are still really good. I felt
that we all you're along even when they get that's
a really good football team. It's a brutal Austar in
New England. I mean, now now you're oking. You're gonna

(18:34):
to go on the road the playoffs and with do
respective Belichick probably Grece coach lived going on the road
with Matt Jones in the playoffs is gonna be a
rough road that I did not see that being a
multi week road. Once you got a really match for
the round. You know, it's interesting because this is a
week to week league. Is a conversation we always have
try to we try to make these knee jerk bombastic

(18:55):
statements on Sunday night, and then the next week, the
exact opposite happens. Matt, So help me make sense of
what exactly went down today in Houston. How in the
world did that Texans team put the Chargers playoff hopes
in peril? What happened? You know? That's the epitome of
the NFL. I mean, a weird game, but I'll say this,
you know, I think what happens was, first of all,

(19:18):
both teams that a lot of guys missing because of COVID.
So it's no excuse the charges, the charges even though
they have a million guys missing that Texans actually more
guys messing. Um. That's an example of the Chargers have
been awful defensively against the run all year long, and
Houston despite having three offensive linemen who are starters, who's
not played in the game because COVID, uh random ball

(19:39):
right down there from the entire game, and Herbert wasn't perfect.
And that's where I think a lot of teams in
the NFL that are good teams. Even though Chargers lost
a horrific fashion today, they're a good football team that
is the difference between the good teams and the great teams. Now,
the Packers can win the game. Farreon Rogers is great.
The cheese. The cheese is one playing it is her
Mahomes has been afric The Bucks can win games and

(20:01):
Brady is not incredible. The Chargers can't win. Herbert's not great.
They need him to be great. And I think that's
the one concerning to half the build, like are the
bill is going to be able to win a playoff game?
If Alan throws for a buck ninety, what happens. The
Chargers have had a lot of awards this year, but
they're extremely high flying and they're impressive. But when things
don't go perfectly for them with Herbert, they can be exposed.

(20:24):
And I get the Texans a lot of credited. I
don't think any of us thought they would expose them,
but they did. They exposed them a big way. And
now that the Chargers are in real trouble, he's the Texans.
Can't you hear? People yelled now going Hi, Hi, do
you want to play? While we just saw right now?
How about the Cowboys? Anybody want a piece of this team?
After what we just saw right now? Put up fifties six.

(20:45):
They could have put up a hundred and six tonight.
I gotta tell you, I just wrote up my stick
in box song on fanside for tomorrow morning, the Cowboys.
Everybody canna talk about any points escort the defense. It's
scared to hell a lot of people. Their defense is
really good. And that pass rush of Lawrence and Gregory
and Micah Parsons. Go find a better three in the league,

(21:07):
Go find them. Why did the Buccaneers in the Super
Bowl last year was because Tom Brady. Because they're their
defense up front with relentless and if that defense goes
to Landball Field, they're gonna be a problem. I'm not
saying to win. Maybe they won't, because they're gonna have
a shot. They're gonna gi a real shot, Sames Troop.
They go back to Tampa where they played to start
the year, They're gonna shot to be Brady in the box.
That defense is knocking the craft out of people. And

(21:30):
Washington's over master. You understand that. But I don't care
who they're playing. Seven seven, I mean that is killing um.
They're really good. Day along with Green Bay and Tampa
Bay are the three teams I look at think they
could do it. I mean, the Rams are also a
quality game, um, but I don't know that they're quite
at the level of the Earth three. We're gonna find

(21:51):
out real filming. He's coming down towards with Arizona fall
off a cliff alright, So not to try to get
away from the playoffs and the fun conversations of Week
six team with a very saucy week seventeen looming Tuesday
becomes the first day when when teams can talk to assistance.
The NFL has shifted that rule. Um, some have started

(22:11):
to speculating maybe that means we could potentially see a
few changes. Maybe Matt Rule might be a little nervous
in Caroline, even though I think his contract is pretty amazing.
But with that said, uh saw rumors of what Todd
Bowls talking to potentially the Raiders. How do you expect
it to be a little crazy on Tuesday and guys
like I don't know, maybe even Doug Peterson to be
be talked about in the mix this week? What you

(22:33):
can see I thought about, um, you know, I mean
rapp will kind of these on network that maybe it
should be it from Nage now they won in she
in Seattle. Is that changing? Does that just kind of
give him a respect week? You know he doesn't get
fired for in the game. I don't know, but you
don't see a lot of changes. No matter what happens.
Nike's gone, Judge might very well be gone. I'm with you.

(22:56):
I don't think rule are gonna be gone. You can
make you should be on that you will be. Sangio
is probably gone. I think I think he's gone. Um
obviously jacking all the rays A radio openings. You start
looking around the rest of the league. Are the other
ones are they're more coming? And I kind of tend
to think Seattle is gonna move on like Carol is
enough because he's not a great coach. But if you're Seattle,

(23:19):
especially if you trade Russell Wilson, you're couldn't try to
rebuild that whole thing with Carroll. I don't know. So
there's gonna be a lot of names out there. And
I do think since if you're smart, look, if you
know you're gonna move on anyway, why not getta jump?
It makes sense? Yeah, Matt, By the way, who do
you like give the Dolphin Saints came tomorrow? Well, like

(23:40):
your guys considering book started with the Shaints. I mean,
you know, but you know that was I'll saying this.
For the Dolphins to beat one in seven, even be
in this spot is incredible. I don't care who they play,
who they beatn whatever. One in seven and you're sitting
there and you got a real shot to make the playoffs.
I mean, is that's rare? Stop. You don't do that

(24:01):
very often. That's great kind of Coach of the Year conversations.
Matt verder M's NFL recap column drops tomorrow morning at
fansided dot com. We always appreciate this time, Matt. Have
a great weekend, happy holidays, and have great New year.
Thanks Thanks, Matt. I love talking to that guy. And
you're like it even more when every picture teams win.
All right, when we come back, we'll start hitting some
of the sound from earlier today, Plus we owe you

(24:23):
a little bit of what we learned after week sixteen,
and we'll try to clarify the playoff picture. That's a
lot of backload in the show. So let's get Steve
to say in here to get us caught up on
everything that happened in week sixteen. What's going on, Steve, Hello,
gentlemen fifty six fourteen. Dallas the final over rival Washington tonight.
Dak Prescott, who did not play for fourth quarters twenty
eight of thirty nine passing three thirty yards four touchdowns.

(24:46):
The halftime lead was forty two to seven against the
Washington team that's now six and nine this season. Dallas
had already clinched its division title as of results today,
but the Cowboys record within the division is now five
and oh and we've mentioned this four on the show.
Once we get to the end of the season, which
is only a couple of weeks away, if there are
ties and they have to go to conference record to

(25:08):
decide them, Dallas in conference is now nine and one.
Just for the record, Kansas City has won eight games
in a row, clinched a division title for the sixth
straight year, beat Pittsburgh thirty six to ten. Las Vegas
came back to down Denver seventeen thirteen. Chicago got the
late touchdown passing two point conversion to win at Seattle
in the snow four. Cincinnati's win was one twenty one

(25:32):
over Baltimore, as Joe Burrow had five hundred twenty five
yards passing and four touchdowns. Buffalo one at New England
thirty three to twenty one. Each team nine and six.
Bills do have the better division record. Now Tampa Bay
clinched a division title, Tampa's first since two thousand and seven.
These Bucks are eleven and four after what turned out
to be an easy win at Carolina thirty two to six,

(25:55):
Atlanta over Detroit twenty sixteen, Lions record to twelve than one,
Philadelphia thirty ten over the Giants. Running back Miles Sanders
left with a possible broken hand. Jets beat Jacksonville one,
Jaguars two and thirteen and windless on the road. The
University of Miami withdrew from this week's Sun Bowl due

(26:16):
to COVID issues. Take Arizona. It's the people that are
five and seven and have academic progress that are next
in line, and Arizona doesn't fit. Any of those two
bowl games were canceled due to COVID issues. Yeah, I'm
sure they're free. COVID issues costing the Military Bowl because
of Boston College's problems, and Wednesday's Fenway Bowl that's a

(26:38):
no go because of Virginia. In the NBA, everything's final.
Denver is just beating the Clippers. One oh three one
d Kevin Durant and the Nets will miss another game
tomorrow due to health protocols. You know, the Rams one
on the road and the Chargers lost on the road today,
And those two games were on at the same time
in Los Angeles on different channels. One team didn't play

(26:58):
that well and one and one didn't play that well
and lost. Matthew Stafford you talked about Justin Herbert was
not on today. Stafford was not on today. Three interceptions
and under throwing guys, just missing receivers. But something special
happened with the punt return for the touchdown and eventually
they win by seven. Yet another close Minnesota game, imagine.
But the Chargers lost as Houston, which is I mean,

(27:21):
He's right, the COVID the missing guys, that doesn't matter.
There were guys missing on both sides a lot um.
When you talked early in this show in this hour
about well we had a bigger, bigger lay of an
egg in the NFL this year, the first thing that
came to mind was Arizona last week, because the Cardinals
have been seven and oh on the road this season

(27:43):
until losing at Detroit, and it was not close thirty
to twelve. By the way, as Arizona continues to slump
their game on Fox TV. Next Sunday is at Dallas,
so it might be four losses in a row for
the Cardinals heading into that finale against Seattle, but to
lose to a Texans team as the Chargers did today.
The Houston Texans had not scored more than twenty two

(28:05):
points in any game except when they were playing Jacksonville,
and here in this game, under three minutes to go,
Houston was up three, eventually forty one twenty nine the
final And what has been awful all seasons for the Chargers,
not just the run defense, but not getting off the
field on third downs the Texans. Texans on third down

(28:27):
were nine for thirteen in this game. I remember we
were talking about the run defense on this show midway
through the season, how the Chargers already had allowed a
thousand yards rushing two opponents just in the first eight games.
Now it's well over two thousand yards rushing against the
Chargers were still a couple of games to go in
the season. And last point about going forward on fourth down, Yes,

(28:48):
the Chargers with the new coach have done that a
lot this year. Fifteen of twenty six going forward on
fourth down. I didn't have a problem with them not
going forward on fourth down, especially early today. Very first
drive was fourth and seven and they kicked the field goal.
And the very second drive the game, it was fourth
and five and they kicked the field goal. Both were good.
And the opening drive at the second half it was

(29:08):
fourth and thirteen and they kicked the field goal. But
what we've talked about the run defense. They give up
a hundred, not a hundred yards rushing per game, a
hundred forty yards rushing. That is an average game against
the Charger defense, and opponents are averaging twenty seven points
a game against it. Only the Jets are worse. So
we're not talking about what went wrong today. Things that

(29:30):
went wrong today are things that have been red flags
all year. Unfortunate. Um it benefit for me, I mean,
I'm pretty happy about it. It was kind of celebrations.
I'm in the Plank household. It's it's one week and
here's what's gonna happens. Chargers are gonna go out, probably
put a fifty burger on the Broncos next week. So
did you see the Denver offense today? Yikes? Chargers could

(29:53):
have a bad game and still win that and so
that's the you know, the season is not over. This
is what I would say, is that the Chargers could
still be nine and seven go going into the finale,
which is against the Raiders, and that could be for
the last playoff spot for all we know in Vegas,
which I just got excited thinking about that. You know,
I was having this conversation the other day because I'm
one of those morons who starts looking ahead two weeks

(30:14):
and wonders, okay, which games getting flexed because right now
there's currently not a Sunday night football game in the
final week of the season, and they wait till the
week before and listen to some of these options that
you have. You have the Niners in the Rams, which
again by that point the Rams could have the division
sewed up, but playoff positioning the Niners could be in it. Um,

(30:36):
you have the and again I'm maybe reaching a bit
here with the Steelers and the Ravens. Everyone is still
alive in the a f C North. That's another good
thing for Chargers. By the way, you mentioned the Ravens,
who are slumping badly with their fourth straight loss. Baltimore
is the team that's currently tied with the Chargers for
the last playoffs, but Baltimore wins because head to head
they killed the Chargers in Baltimore. If the Ravens keep losing,

(30:59):
that may not come into effect. They could flex Dolphins Patriots.
I mean, there's we just mentioned what five six games,
uh that all are going to head into the final
week of the season. Regardless, I think of what happened now,
the a f C North will kind of sort itself out,
but at least with the teams that we mentioned, right, Raiders, Chargers.

(31:21):
Raiders could get beat next week by the Indianapolis Colts
and still have a playoff chance of that final game, Um, Patriots, Dolphins.
Even if the Dolphins lose tomorrow night, their playoff hopes
are still alive. Down significantly well, um, it's at like
fifteen or ten right now, so if they lose, it
would be low, but there'd still be a chance in

(31:42):
in the f C North games. I mean, I'm telling
you what, we're looking at five or six games that
the NFL could be trying to figure out in Week
eight team. Aren't you who they're gonna flex? Though? Because
like if they say, all right, we'll do Dolphins pat
they do it after week uh yes, able to find
out who won? Yeah, well know, so after Sunday's game, which,

(32:03):
by the way, um, just just one little note. I
appreciate how the NFL leaves January one open for college
bowl games and the colleges don't really take advantage of it.
They put their playoffs on the Friday night before January one,
which I get it Rose Bowl, but still, I mean,
is this a hill that I'm going to die on

(32:24):
and no one's there with me? Arnie, I mean talked
about this before. I said, remember, the ratings were just
it's the dumbest name for the first time, you know.
And when they did the games on New Year's Eve,
we'll see what happens again. This it's gonna be horrible.
I'm gonna tell you right now, it's gonna be terrible.
By the way, for the flex scheduling, it's six days
prior to the finale. They will announce not only the
Sunday night game, but to Saturday night games. According to

(32:46):
the league. Let's go, well that Saturday night, but two
Saturdays yet, right, I'm pumped about it now. Dulphin's pages
for sure. Maybe in the Saturday game. I think it's
a good almost everything you just mentioned, if they have
playoff implications, all of those could be moved. Yeah, And
and what's interesting is it would be here, Oh my gosh,
can we really go down this rabbit hole real quick?

(33:07):
I know we're up against it, But then how would
the NFL view that? Right? Would they say, Okay, Sunday's
gotta be that pen ultimate game, right, that's gotta be
where regardless of what happens, there is playoff implications in
this game. But then maybe if you flex a game
to Saturday, one of those games could end up severely
impacting what this is. Gonna be fun to kind of

(33:29):
see which games they figure out to them on Saturday.
And exactly here is maybe I can't tell if it's
the best are the worst parent that listens to the show.
So we quickly hit Twitter at PTP five oh three rights.
My nine year old son Kyle loves Arnie's not getting
a team here in Oregon where somehow rooting for the

(33:51):
Finns up Artie. Gosh, you hit hit the like and
the retweet on that one. Yeah, well done. Uh In
just absolutely positively poisoning the mind of Yeah, I was
gonna say, isn't that kind of pacific? Did you see
the Dolphins to start this season? All right, when we

(34:13):
come back, let's hit Twitter. You guys are on fire early.
It's the best way to stay in touch with the
show at stinking Genius one at Plank Show, and everybody
should be following us at Fox Sports Radio. It's aren't
in Plank on a Fox Football Sunday, Arnian Plank on
Fox Football Sunday. Danny g Bobo, Steve Seger in the
house tonight along with the millions and millions of editors

(34:36):
behind the scenes. How about the final numbers for Dak
Prescott in the Feen win for the Cowboys, Yes, you
heard that right, fifty six to fourteen wins over the
Washington football team. Three thirty yards, four touchdowns. Those touchdowns
went to a running back, a wide receiver, a tight end,
and an offensive lineman all in the same game. That's

(34:57):
the same score the Dolphins beating the same tomorrow six.
He should feel pretty confident about it then, But h
and by the way, go ahead, and and and drink
because in the army brings up the Dolphins drinking game.
You're hammered by this point of the program. You're probably
slurring your words. But I also are you surprised by
this note? For Mike McCarthy, Tonight hammered home solidified his

(35:24):
ninth TIN win season, which is currently tied for third
with four others among active coaches for the most ten
win seasons. I know that's a lot, but nine tin
win seasons for Mike McCarthy in his career third among
active coaches all time. How about that? For a guy

(35:45):
that has that many wins, he certainly gets disrespected a lot.
Give me the other names on that list and tell
me if they get respected disrespected as much as him. Well,
I mean Andy Reid is number one, and so he
had to go through that quite a bit, and Sean
Payton was up there. But yeah, you're king at you,
you're looking at a lot of names that well, Pete Carroll,
I mean we had Matt Verderam on earlier that thought

(36:05):
he might be fired after this season, but you're right,
may be gone to also after this season. Do you
think he's gone as early as tomorrow? No, there's no
reason to do that. And after what he's done with
the franchise, no reason to start, um, you know, cutting
losses like that. That that's that you don't have to
do with that. Do you understand though, why they might
want to do it tomorrow because you can start talking
to assistance in that in a couple of weeks. But

(36:27):
you can start doing that behind his back at you.
But that's the way it's done, I guess that, Ben Fairness. Yeah,
I mean that that is kind of how it's done.
But there there are some people that maybe in in
some ways I would look at that as being a
little bit deceitful. But if you're gonna make a change,
make a change, how about this. I wouldn't be surprised

(36:50):
if we see two shockers in the coaching changes this
this season in the NFL. And because I mean, we
would still consider Pete Carroll a shocker, right, I mean,
even though we're us and you're talking about it, that
would be a shocker. Why. I mean, we haven't seen
a lot of coach movement from team to team. I'm
telling you what. I am so intrigued by Sean Payton's
future right now, Arenie. And I don't know why. I

(37:12):
don't know why. It's just there's been something that's kind
of been eating at me a little bit. And that's
not to try to say that I'm disrespecting the Saints
chances against the Dolphins tomorrow night, But I just I
don't know. The last couple of years, you know, Drew
Brees has now gone, you know, he's not getting to
call the shots. Maybe there's an opening that either has

(37:33):
a quarterback or give him the opportunity to pick his
own quarterback, and he might be able to go to
a place where they say, you know what, you're in charge,
you're the man. You get to pick the groceries, as
Bill parcels once and and I know he's involved in
a lot of it right now, but I just I
can't help but wonder if maybe aren't we might be
seeing a Sean Payton type moves. There's still a team

(37:56):
Chris seven year old guy. Um. You know, there's a
lot of teams that would certainly love them. Somebody like
give the Cowboys and him, um just never worked out.
But usually know Jerry Jones wanted to hire him. I don't.
And by the way, there's somebody else that you're dying
to bring in over over him, somebody who's who's this
would be something about the Saints making a move. This
might be a team coming in, I don't know, trying

(38:19):
to make a deal for a coach. We haven't seen
it in the NFL. I think maybe since what Gruden
now it's twenty years ago almost now. But I just
I get this. There's seven and seven. You're right, they're
not terrible. They're coming off four straight playoff appearances. This
is nothing about being unhappy or not wanting to be

(38:39):
in New Orleans. But I just I think there's a
couple of interesting opportunities out there, maybe like Vegas, maybe
a place like Vegas mining treatment you. Maybe a place
like Jacksonville. Mike, you know you look at you've got.
Are you still high on Trevor Lawrence? Because I am,
and I think you look at a place like Jacksonville
and you could have some success to get some roster

(39:01):
control there. I'm just wondering if there's a big right
hook coming that we're not expecting in the coaching rood,
if from the Raiders you have the right state where
you're gonna get a coach from just the wrong coach. See, so, uh,
New Orleans, Louisiana, Why where you looking one in Florida. Right,
you said Florida. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Are you thinking
Todd Bowles? Do you think of Byron Leftwitch? Okay, well

(39:25):
then who Yeah, you're telling me that you think coach
Prime would leave Jackson State to go to Vegas. I
gotta tell you whether he'd be good or bad and
give us something to talk about every Sunday. You know it,
I know it. We talked about it NonStop. Well, maybe

(39:48):
just the heads up tomorrow. Actually, I guess now on
the East Coast we're heading into Monday. But Tuesday we're
gonna have a lot of talk about assistant coaches talking
to other teams because the NFL changed that rule and
now you've got an opportunity to talk to assistance a
little bit earlier, I know what. You got about a
minute a half left in the hour. But Josh asks

(40:10):
a good question, Arnie. Did the Colts show enough for you?
I really thought Frank Wright got himself some Coach of
the Year vote Saturday night. What do you think? Yeah,
there's dra the victory. Uh certainly did go up a
little bit after that win. Today. Um, I gotta tell you,
I was I'm surprised because they're right there in the
thick of things, and I was wondering if they were

(40:31):
gonna fall apart. They did. They're hanging in there. Um.
I give them a lot of credit though, man, I
really do. It's been it's been a good year for them,
even though they've had an easy schedule that that's been
part of the reason though, Chris, I remember filling in
on a weekend show and having a conversation. I want
to say that it was maybe a tweet or uh,
maybe a call, and the thought was maybe the Colts

(40:54):
should just pull Carson wins because they don't want to
risk losing that first round track pick lo and behold.
They've turned things completely around. They have one of the
most dominating wins of the second half of the season,
and what they did in blowing up Buffalo, and they
look pretty pretty good beating Arizona. But the Cardinals are
going backwards to I mean, I was shocked. I thought

(41:16):
Arizona was going to collabor the Colts. I I thought
that that was like one of the best bets of
the weekend to for especially for Saturday. We'll get into
it all coming up next hour. He's already spanninger. I'm
Chris plank. Uh. Yes, our two, it's already a plank
on a Fox Football Sunday already. Today was a little history,

(41:41):
a little history in the National Football League as we
shift our focus to the game where you spent a
lot of your time Buffalo in New England. Four hundred
and seventy four games. It's a number, including the playoffs,
a Bill Belichick coached team, and not it's the first
time this has happened. Fo. I'm watching this set up

(42:03):
here for the first time in four hundred and seventy
four games, including the playoffs, a Bill Belichick coached team
could not force the opposing offense to punt. It's never happened.
It's incredible, It's incredible. Uh. And then, unfortunately for Bill Belichick,
he then went to his postgame press conference where uh

(42:24):
he also was a part of history for the worst
ever post game question him football aside. Sorry, but I'm
doing a story about New Year's resolutions, and I was
just wondering if you had any you wanted to share
with your fans and our readers. Yeah no, not right now, Okay,
thanks every next week. Not shocking that that he didn't
want to answer that. I don't know why I could

(42:46):
you imagine if I if I asked that question, I
would have been fired. I would have been fired on
the spot. I'd be ripped. Everybody be calling it and texting,
going your your cohost that used to work with with
eleven years is an idiot. I mean, there's so here.
Here's my thought. There are so many press conferences in

(43:10):
the NFL. It's almost ridiculous how many press conferences there
are in the NFL, and every single coach Arnie is
contractually obligated to go to said press conference. You can't uh,
and it was one of the great things. You know,
in college, a coach can say, hey, I'm not doing
media today. Guess what. You don't have to do media today.

(43:30):
No one's gonna say anything in the NFL. You're like, hey,
I'm not doing it today. Guess what you'll get? Fine.
Some coaches might say it's worth it, but I mean,
I'm not kidding because I probably follow the league too
ridiculously close, especially the Raiders. I feel like I can't
open Twitter without Rich Besaccia having a press conference, are
seeing a press conference with Mike McCarthy. I mean, I

(43:51):
feel like coaches have at least four press conferences a week, Arnie,
Why in the world would the moment after a soul
crushing loss at home to the Buffalo Bills be that
moment when you couldn't force the opponent to punt where
you're gonna bring up your suite? Very delicate question about
New Year's resolution. I think the only better question would

(44:12):
have been if you would have said, would you have
won the game today if Tom Brady was your quarterback
or something like that, could you have bad? I'm serious.
I mean if if it was me that asked the
same question, I would have been fired on the spot.
I would have been ridiculed. I would have been I mean,
how do you ask? And yet nobody's even said a
damn think about that? Really, because it's all over my

(44:32):
Twitter timeline right now? Is it? Who is it? I mean,
do do we know who it is and what they're
working on? Or no? I have no idea, but I
guess New Year's resolutions. I guess. I guess. Good catch, Artie,
But I'm not kidding until you said, Hey, let's play
that audio from the Belichick Press him football aside. Sorry,

(44:53):
but I'm doing a story about New Year's resolutions, and
I was just wondering if you had any wanted to
share with your fans and our readers. Not right now,
next week, maybe next week I'll get to your right
before the chance to get to a playoff, I'll sit
down and talk to you about my New Year's resolutions.
Well the next year New Year's is over. I can't.

(45:17):
I couldn't listen to that until we just played it.
That's the first time I listened to it. I can't
tell you why. I hate cringe moments. I really do.
They're just to me. I'm so uncomfortable. I get uncomfortable now,
even in movies. I'm like, I gotta look at the
um oh gosh, I gotta google it up to spoil

(45:38):
it because I'm just I'm a nervous wreck. And I
saw that start making the rounds. I'm like, oh my gosh,
I don't want to hear this. I don't want to
hear this. So I waited until we got on the
air Arnie to finally listen to it. It's even more
cringe worthy than I ever. If I never have to
hear that again, I'm gonna be Okay, Bill, who's your

(46:01):
starting quarterback next week? Now? Can you just I mean,
can you imagine I don't even know if that's the
worst question than than what she asked, did did you
also notice this week? And I don't know how big
of a story it was, Arnie in your parts, but
he did apologize to media this week, so that was insane,

(46:21):
and you could tell that's why he was going, well,
maybe next week he was trying to be nice. Oh my,
I don't think I could have been nice in that situation.
I was like, are you kidding me yet? My New
Year's resolution is not the answer dumb questions like that anymore.
That's that would have been a good answer, really good
point brought up by Todd Firman, who's coming up next

(46:41):
right here on Fox Sports Radio, and we'll have all
this sound coming up for you in our final hour tonight.
But he asks which, well, he lays out three post
game moments were actually better than the games. So which moment,
in your opinion, Arnie was the best? Wasn't Bill Belichick's
New Year's resolution question? Just wasn't Antonio Brown after the

(47:02):
Buccaneers win, losing his mind and in the middle, which,
by the way, can I just so note it's okay
to have short questions. I don't know. This happens in
college all the time to people got a filibuster on
their questions. Ask the damn question. That's all you need
to do. The the person asking the question was like
and then in like n whenever the earth cool? I mean,

(47:23):
I'm just like, what do we what do we ask
the question? So Antonio Brown lost his mind and then
Matt Rule made a jay Z references talking about how
all this is happening and we don't see it and
we don't get it. But remember it took jay Z
how do you put a bubble? Like seven Danny like
seven different companies before he finally became rich. I'm just

(47:45):
what are we doing today? But which of those would
you still take? The Belichick New Year's resolution question? All
of them? I have to put the Belichick number one. Um,
just the fact that there was something outside of football
too that you wanted to get his New Year's resolution.
I would have wanted to see the face of other
people in the room at the time, and if anybody

(48:06):
said anything afterwards that that would have been priceless. No,
it was. It was definitely uncomfortable, but maybe building turning
over a new leaf. Maybe Belichick saying, all right, I'm
not going to crush this poor soul. Obviously she wandered
into a situation to where it's it's uh, it's it's basically,

(48:27):
you know what, I'm a I'm just trying to get
a quote from a coach and the person wasn't really
aware of the surroundings. I don't know. Oh, here's a
Patriot zoom, I'll click on that. Boy. Awful timing award,
Danny g What was the full Matt Rule quote? It
was fantastic, Rules said, I believe it's one thousand percent working.
I just know no one can see it. And I apologize,

(48:49):
as I tell our team all the time, it took
jay Z seven years. He had to start his own
agency to become an overnight sensation. It takes time rules
agency agency. I don't know if he was supposed to
production company, record companything of that nature, but that's like
me sitting here trying to every single night try to

(49:11):
sound cool and hip by bringing up recording artists. And
so he's like, you know, I tell my team all
the time we're talking about jay Z in the locker room.
You know what, do you know? You're not natural? Stop it,
but fascinating day. As far as the quotes were concerned,
you wanted some tweets real quick, firm and joins us.
It's the best way to stay in touch with the show. Twitter.
Arnie is at stinking Genius one. I'm at Plank Show,

(49:33):
and everybody, I mean everybody should be following us at
Fox Sports Radio. I mean hot off the presses. Mr
Nobody hits us up with this doozy if the chair.
If the Chargers are terrible against the run, look for
the Raiders due to the exact opposite and try to
set up the pass. Unlike Dallas who realized the Washington
football team was bad against the pass and acted accordingly. Today,

(49:55):
boy did they not? Holy smokes, they absolutely. I don't
know if we've seen a shellacking like that. Aren't in
years in the NFL. I was hoping and see all
the people who had was it Washington plus then for
those tickets must have been real good after the first
five minutes there who Julian asks a very good question,

(50:17):
are the Arizona Cardinals done? D O n E done well?
How tough the NFC is, especially with the way the
Cowboys look today? Um god, I would say that the Packers,
Tampa and the Cowboys and the Rams are I would
take them all ahead of Arizona right now. Arizona, by

(50:39):
the way, wraps up it's season with it came in
Dallas next Sunday and then they host the Seattle Seahawks
to wrap up this season. Well, uh so what twelve
and five? Alright? Sorry? Eleven and six six? Not bad?
Not bad. I mean Arizona did clinch a playoff birth today,

(51:00):
which I gotta admit I was a little bit confused
with how the Raiders win clinched a playoff birth for
the Cowboys, and they were talking some crazy stuff like that,
and and here's the here's the other funny thing. I
just want to point this out real quick because I
I'm a uh what it was at football night in America.
I liked the pregame show. I don't understand the need
for eighteen different desks, but I like their pregame show.

(51:23):
They've tried to bring in the political guy to do
playoff possibilities, but he doesn't really tell you anything. It's
just he stands there and circles a bunch of things
and shows you the percentages of how they've changed from
week to week, But they don't really explain anything to you.
Because he wore khakis and was popular during the election

(51:44):
doesn't mean he's telling us as about the playoffs. I
learned nothing I saw. I'm not kidding you aren't. I
saw it on I was doing some of my kids.
I paused, ran in the other room, came back, and
I watched him like, That's the greatest waste of a
minute and a half I've ever had in my life. Look,
this team got better this week. Yeah, no, don't, no,
no kidding. They won. They're gonna have a better chance

(52:04):
of making the playoffs because they want. But I don't
understand and get how the Raiders winning got the Cowboys
in the playoffs. It's got to be some sort of
strength of loss schedule and he helped up with the
strength of schedule from what I understand. So dumb. Anyway,
back to the tweets that stinking genius wanted playing show.
But are you there? Are you saying that Arizona's done

(52:25):
or could you see them being a team that wins
a game in the playoffs? Yeah, that they could definitely
win a game in the playoffs. But I would say,
out of all the teams in the NFC. I would
put them in as like a five seed right now. Um,
and that's exactly where they are. I have behind the
Packers rams tamp in Dallas. All Right, this is a
conversation that's been hot and heavy on Twitter dot com
amongst Oklahoma Sooner fans and Cleveland Brown fans. Aren'tie and

(52:49):
it duved dovetails duck tails anyway, It basically is based
off what happened against the Packers when Baker may feel
through four interceptions at justice to all the right, is
Baker Mayfield gone next year? I said that, man, I
said to you, Chris that he's playing for his life
in Cleveland. They lose that game, They're not going to

(53:11):
make the playoffs. The only way Cleveland doesn't move on
is because of the fifth year of that contract. If
he was a free agent after this year, no way
do they give him a new contract and and and
new money. So uh, he may get the benefit of
one more year, but I think they're gonna move on
from him. I think he gets one more year and
I think he balls out. I just I don't think
he's healthy. I've said that for weeks and weeks and

(53:33):
weeks and weeks, and I thought maybe the COVID absence
in the Raiders game might span it two weeks and
give him a little bit more time to heal up
in the on the left shoulder injury that he's been
struggling with. But I'm I know this sounds crazy, but
coaches still play the players that they think are the
best players. He's not throwing them out there because, oh,

(53:54):
we just want to implode or tank the season. They
think Baker Mayfields their best chance to win because a
lot of free agents out there, a lot of people
you can trade for at the quarterback position that are
good veteran quarterbacks out there. We've mentioned that, Shaun Watson,
Aaron Rodgers as they're guys you'd have to trade for.
Jimmy garopp They're all there for the taking. There's no

(54:15):
doubt about that, right if you want to give up
a first round pick, I mean, do you want to
give up a multi to the first round picks to
go get Jimmy Garoppolo? I sure, Aaron Rodgers, but I'd
take Baker Mayfield every day and Sunday over Jimmy g
all Right, we gotta break when we come back more
of your tweets. You would take Jimmy G over Baker

(54:36):
Mayfield right now. I know this is a losing battle
coming off a four interception game, and Jimmy G was
pretty terrible in the second half, but I don't know.
I'm not the biggest Jimmy G support. I'm surprised that
he's still starting for the Niners, but they're gonna make
the playoffs when we come back. Let's talk to Todd Furman.
He's been all over it all day long in Vegas.
We gotta coming up next with Arni and Plank on
a Fox Football Sunday Man. I love our listeners. I

(55:01):
absolutely love him on Twitter. You're gonna hit this up
at Stinking Genius Swan. That's Arnie Spanier. I'm Chris Plank.
Hit me up at Plank Show. Are you and You're
on all week? Right? Arnie? Are you filling it for
Jason Smith? Always? Monday? Tuesday with Torres, Wednesday with rich Arneberger,
Thursday with Torres, and Friday with you? Right? I get

(55:22):
the one day? One day, Arnie would not work with
me for more than one. I gave you one day?
Did I not appreciate that? But young HAPPYO writes. Fun
fact jay Z actually became successful very quickly because he
had to start his own record company when no major
record labels wanted to sign him. It took him three

(55:42):
years tops after his debut album. Everybody knows that well.
I guess I think Matt Rule. I think his point
he's trying to make is a fair one. But I
just I think he kind of botched the story a
little bit. Uh And and then one e for effort,
then one more from Sharon before we get our man

(56:05):
Todd Firm and in here Danny g is efforting him
as we speak, Sharon Rights. I promised that if I
had a chance to ask Bill Belichick the question, it
would not be about New Year's resolutions. Maybe did you
film the Bill's practice this week? There any deflated balls?
Was the audio from Bill's coaches to their quarterbacks working
a long, long list of questions. I would have could

(56:26):
you imagine if you did one of those oh my
goodness read that would have been better than the what's
your New Year's resolution? That would have been better? And
then Matt cleared this up for us with the Raiders
and Falcons win today. It clinched the NFC East for
the Cowboys due to strength of victory. Same would have
happened with the Chargers, Vikings and Jaguars. Win, didn't matter
what that dominant went over Washington. How about them Cowboys, Well,

(56:48):
they didn't. That's a phase for you who has been
watching strength of victory for the last like six weeks.
You have been, But they didn't beat the Raiders. So
how does that help their strength of God firm and
joins us right now? Fox Sports Radio, Todd, how about
them Cowboys? I was impressive tonight, Wasn't it? Definitely an
impressive performance. The offense is the one side of the
ball we've been waiting to try and see. That breakout

(57:10):
performance finally came in the form of a divisional route.
And if the Cowboys can play that well on both
sides of the ball, they're going to be an extremely
dangerous out throughout the NFC playoffs. Todd books do today
they might I'm thinking they might have taken a beating.
You tell me, you know, it wasn't really a beating. Uh.
I expect a mixed bag when most of them will
tip their hand on how things unfolded today. Because you

(57:31):
get a game like the Houston Texans that nobody wanted
a part of game goes from nine and a half
up to thirteen. They went out right, so they blow
up a lot of teasers, moneyline parlays, and everything else.
You have a game like the Bengals that you know
create some problems, but at the same time, you have
a COVID situation that works out in the book's favor,
and the Lions coming through and kicking that late field
goal and improbable fashion. Although the Sunday night game not

(57:53):
one that the books will be happy about. With the
Cowboys and over coming home to roost, I imagine that
will probably be the single biggest defeat they suffered today,
maybe alongside the Steelers and Chiefs. You know, it's interesting
because Todd, I feel like I asked some version of
this question at least in in every interview we've had
over the last month. We're getting ready to kick games
off scenario before kickoff and boom, guys are being thrown

(58:15):
on the COVID list. You had Gosh who wasn't for
the Raiders had Marcus Mariota and Brian Edwards. You had
the Jacksonville Jaguars had Miles jack and a couple of guys,
how challenging. Has this become too handicap because it's so
unknown up until the final bleeping second is to who's
in and who's out. It becomes a true twenty four
hour day, seven day a week job if you want

(58:37):
to do this successfully and get the best of the number,
especially as it pertains to the NFL and even the
NBA and the NHL to a lesser extent. But you're
constantly monitoring trying to see who's available. And the tricky
part about all of it is players that test positive
for COVID aren't always put on the inactive list, so
you have to make sure that you're combing every research
source that you possibly have available. Sometimes some guy flipped

(58:58):
through the cracks. You just hope that they're not going
to have a seismic impact on the point spread. But
more importantly, the outcome of a given game todd are
they gonna get cloverd tomorrow? If you bet Miami at
the beginning of the week, it took Miami plus three,
and then at the end of the week it took
the Saints plus three. A lot of middling going on there,
my friend, a lot of it. Definitely some opportunity there

(59:19):
if the game were to fall one or two the
either way. And there's a good chance, Ernie that I
think this number gets as highest three and a half
before we get to kick off tomorrow, because it's going
to be extremely difficult for the books to attract money
on the New Orleans Saints with Ian Book making his
NFL debut. Now, I did read and don't have any
inside information that there is a chance that Trevor Simeon
could still clear protocol. I don't believe that will be

(59:39):
the case given the way the market is moved. So
it'll all hinge on the New Orleans defense rising to
the occasion and trying to repeat what we saw on
Sunday night when they pitched a goose egg against the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Yeah, I I agree. We're hanging out
with Todd fir him and Bet the Board podcast. You
can find him. They're also great follow on Twitter. I
taught for him and where I found this. So I'm
curious of the three maybe four post game UH press

(01:00:03):
conference moments, was the Bill Belichick New Year's Eve resolution question?
Your favorite? Odd? Oh? Hands down? I mean Bill Belichick
and I sharing all the mater I actually went to
school with his daughter, and the fact that he can
keep a poker faith throughout that discussion. I think that
as an intrepid reporter, she will definitely do her media
tour over the next seventy two hours. So I applaud

(01:00:23):
that effort and the Bill's credit. He didn't jump down
her throat to say I'm not going to answer the question.
I think that was a heck of a lot better
the way he carried himself up there on the podium,
more so than Antonio Brown lashing out with what I
thought was a very logical question given some of his
poor off the field choices. Todd, I think she should ask,
would you have won this game if Tom Brady was
your quarterback or something like that. You know, I'm not

(01:00:45):
sure even Tom could have operated with some of those
weapons that New England had out there. Nikkil Harry clearly
was not, uh the most valuable player in the New
England passing game, and it was more the Patriots defense
than anything else that let them down in that particular spot.
Because I'm sure if you told Bill and company your
offense is gonna put up twenty one point, you're gonna
believe you're in that game from start to finish, and
how different that result could have been when the game

(01:01:05):
is one if J. C. Jackson doesn't drop an interception
throwing directly to him. So everything's a mess right now.
I can't figure anything out, Todd. The Chiefs are suddenly
dominant again. The Bills look like the team from early
in the season, and then out of nowhere, Joe Burrows
dropping five hundred yards on a very beleaguered and beaten
up Baltimore Ravens defense. But they're still not guaranteed a

(01:01:28):
playoff spot right now because from my understanding, how the
Browns could still win the a f C North. I
know it's been a challenging year to handicap, but in
that same vein, how great is it to have two
weeks and so much still up in the air in
both conferences? You have to love the level of parody
you've given the fact that we're not even sure the
seven teams that will get into your point, Chris, which
team is a clear cut favorite? We know Kansas City

(01:01:50):
has the inside track for the one seed in the NFC.
You can kind of throw a blanket in my opinion
over Green Bay Tampa and probably the Dallas Cowboys given
how they're routing into form on the offensive side. But
as far as Joe Burrow in the gaudy numbers he
put up, I mean he hasn't played a secondary of
that poor since the National semifinal against your beloved Sooners
a few years ago. Hey, hey, Ton, I wouldna say

(01:02:12):
any value there that. If you want to take somebody
though when the Super Bowl, go with like a Buffaloes
of the number four seed, or go with something like
Arizona now and starting to fall on the downside. Well,
if you believe Arizona can get it all together, Arendy,
you are a much heartier soul than I am, because
I think this team is taking on water faster than
the Titanic, and I think they're going to be a
go against maybe in the first round of the playoffs.

(01:02:34):
But as far as looking for value, Buffalo's prices never
really dipped that far. Kansas City. You could have found
them at twelve or fourteen to one when they were
struggling in the middle of the season. But books usually
do a pretty good job when it comes to preseason favorites,
knowing this is a marathon, not a sprint of trying
to keep these numbers relatively short. I guess if you
wanted to identify a team that you thought had a
quarterback capable of putting a team on his shoulders, the

(01:02:56):
Los Angeles Chargers mathematically now needs some things to work
in their favor. They're gonna have their hands full given
their outright upset today at the hands of the Houston Texas,
the third team place favorite. It was to a time
with Miami. Well, I mean, the number has been crashing
on the Dolphins five one when they had won two
games in a row. That number has now come down
to about a hundred to one. If you still believe

(01:03:17):
they can catch lightning in a bottle um, you know what,
I wouldn't rule it out. But at the same time,
I wouldn't be betting them on a hundred to one
because I think they're gonna have an uphill battle, essentially
needing to win seven games in a row if they're
gonna hoist the Lombardi Trophy. There you well, I mean
they've already won, what aren't six. Competition gets a little
tougher starting tomorrow night, before they go on the road

(01:03:37):
to Nashville to try and do that. But that's all
you want this time of year, gentleman, is to have
a chance and play yourself in. And to Miami's credit,
when this season could have gone off the rails at
one and seven, they've done more than that, Todd. By
the time we talk next Sunday night, we'll have had
the four team playoffs, will be down to two. We'll
have the New Year's Day Bowls, where we hardly have
any New Year's State Bowls anymore. But I know the
ratings are gonna be down a bit because they're doing

(01:03:59):
it on New Year's even, not New Year's all. I'm intrigued. Alabama, Cincinnati, Georgia, Michigan.
The games are gonna happen. They're not gonna be forfeits.
We've got to stop this madness. But has anything over
the last few weeks change your opinion on these two games?
You still feel like we're kind of on a downhill
slope towards seeing Alabama play for the national championship against
what you like, Georgia, Right, you know what, Georgia was

(01:04:21):
m pick before the season, and I think Georgia is
probably gonna end up being the side for me, assuming
all their players clear COVID protocols before taking they'll get
a bounce back effort. But I do wonder about the
quarterback position because if J. T. Daniels hasn't been with
the team, it means they probably haven't given him enough
reps to get him game ready. So that's a little
bit concerning there. But as far as the other semifinal,
I have just some heavy duty digging to do this

(01:04:43):
week coming into it. But I think is the number
drifts out, Cincinnati is gonna make for a much more
attractive underdog, especially if you can grab two touchdowns here.
Given some of the uncertainty around Alabama, specifically in regards
to their playmakers, and I'm not sure Alabama just laces
up their cleats and it can run away and hide.
I think a bigger question is pertained to some of
the other bull games. How many of these things will
actually get played. It seems like every day we're getting

(01:05:05):
at least one cancelation, and it's a real travesty that
all these kids have earned the opportunity to play in
games like this, uh and take it part. We can
only hope that most of them will go off without
a hitch. Todd. Let me save yourself founding hours and
hours of work all about my wins seventeen. So there
you go. So I should be betting the over then,
because you over undersits at fifty eight in the Alabama
team total. I should be a rocking chair winner. You

(01:05:26):
know what that means for us, Chris, we should betting
Cincinnati on the money line because Arnie never get easy
winners like this. All right, hey, Todd, listen, enjoy it.
We dig you man. Have a great, happy new year,
and we'll hopefully get a chance to talk to you
next Sunday night. Thank you, gentlemen, say tape out there,
have a happy and healthy new year, and look forward
to catching up again next Sunday for the first Sunday
night show. It's exciting. That's Todd firm, and he joins

(01:05:48):
his most Sunday Nights here perspective on Fox Sports Radioly
should it's good football when we come back, A really
good tweets rolling in. We're gonna keep them coming. It's
stinking genius wanted Plank show plus is the audio rolls in.
We'll figure out exactly what led Darren Payne are Dron
Payne and Jonathan Allen to go at it on the side.
You put his finger on his face. Yeah, well, I

(01:06:10):
mean it's some things that nobody put baby in the
corner of figure. Some things are grown men conversations. Others
are reasons to throw here Steve to say with the latest.
What's going on, Steve, Yeah, it's too bad they weren't
like college teammates or something like that, they could smooth
this over. You mentioned that you mentioned the slumping Arizona Cardinals.
They did get into the playoffs today thanks to the

(01:06:32):
Vikings loss and because the forty Niners had already lost
in the Thursday night game, and in fact, Thursday, the
Cowboys had clinched a postseason spot when the forty Niners lost,
and then this afternoon, before the Cowboys ever kicked off tonight, yes,
the Raiders went. Meant it meant basically that the Eagles
can't make up the ground. So yeah, we knew before
kickoff tonight Dallas had clinched its division. And then Dallas

(01:06:54):
went out and had a four forty two to seven
half time lead and beat Washington fifty six to fourteen.
Let me put this in perspective in that division, if
you haven't seen the Giants this year, First off, congratulations,
But second, if you have as I have, this is
a wretched vanilla punchless offense. They lost thirty to ten

(01:07:16):
at Philadelphia, which means that in the month of December,
the Giants not only lost all four games, but they
lost the four games, scoring only forty six points total.
Dallas scored fifty six just in one game tonight. Goodness,
they have Daniel Jones also, that's right, bring him back.
Everything will be different. Kwan Barkley might get fifteen carries

(01:07:36):
thirty three yards. Once that happens, Dallas getting the forty
two points at the half. The forty two points is
more than any other team scored in its whole game
today in the chest for the record. But the good
news is for the Giants and the Jets, and we've
mentioned this one a few Sunday Night shows. Because of trades,
it's looking very much like the Jets get to top

(01:07:57):
ten picks in April their own and because of a
deal with Seattle another one, and the Giants would get
to top ten picks in April their own and one
from Chicago. Giants could have all ten picks and won't
help the way some teams draft, and of course, the
Rams won't have a first rounder, but that's really par

(01:08:18):
for the course. Uh mentioned Bars and Seahawks want to
have a first rounder. What Colts won't have their first
rounder now because of the amount of snaps of the
Cartson Wentz so with the Eagles trade that one Conveys
won't have a first rounder. Kansas City won the division
title in the a f C West for a sixth
straight year, beating Pittsburgh thirty six to ten, Vegas and
Chicago with wins Cincinnati down Baltimore one. The Baltimore Ravens

(01:08:42):
have lost four games in a row. As bad as
the Chargers were today they lost at Houston forty one
twenty nine. Things are not at all over for the Chargers.
If they can somehow mentally regroup their last two games,
or against Denver, which had almost no offense today, and
then at the Raiders there that might be your aim
for the last playoff spot for all we know in Vegas,

(01:09:03):
but the Baltimore Ravens currently hold the last playoff spot
winning a tiebreaker against the Chargers because they killed him
head to head in Baltimore. But Baltimore still has to
play the Rams next week in Baltimore. That's one of
the late afternoon games on Fox, and then they close
against Pittsburgh. If Baltimore doesn't win next week and the

(01:09:24):
Chargers win their last two, they finished ten and seven.
No one else behind them is going to be finishing
ten and seven, so things are not all lost for
the Chargers. But this was wow. Talk about laying an egg.
The Chargers started the season four and one. Since then
they are four and six. Just for the record, Buffalo
one at New England thirty three twenty one. Each team

(01:09:44):
nine and six, but the Bills have the better division record. Now.
Rams one to clinch a playoff birth Tampa Bay. One
to clinch a division title, their first since two thousand seven.
Remember that at seven five start last year, they did
not clinch any division title last year. They just made
a run on the road and all those playoff games
and then a Super Bowl at home. By the way,
the Rams will have the Super Bowl at home. We'll

(01:10:05):
see if they're in it, but it is at their
stadium in February Philadelphia. With a win Atlanta and the
Jets as well. In the NBA, San Antonio beat Detroit
one forty four to one oh nine and a guy
who averages eighteen points a game for the Spurs. Do
Jon Murray was out due to health protocols, but they
got to play the Pistons, who are five and twenty
seven and Cleveland out of nowhere without Lebron just for

(01:10:27):
the record twenty and thirteen this season, much better record
than the Lakers. Cleveland beat Toronto one forty four to
a Lonzo Ball of Chicago was placed in health protocols.
Coach Billy Donovan was also out, but Chicago one again
beat Indiana. The Bulls are twenty and ten. Back to you,
thanks Steve. It's Arni and Plank on a Fox Football Sunday,

And that's why I discovered Matches all the cash back
you've earned at the end of your first year. Discover
exceptionally common sense and learn more. Discover dot com slash
match limitations apply youre um, you feel pretty good about
the Bengals now going forward, because I think I am.
After what you saw today. How can you know I

(01:11:32):
feel good at what they did offensively? I mean that
they were just a machine out there. There was that
was an impressive performance by Burrow. I um, I not
only was impressed with Burrow, but I've been impressed with
their defense for a majority of this season. And listen,
you're going up against Josh Johnson. All right, I'm not
trying to build things up here too much. You're not
taking on Lamar Jackson. You're not even taking on a

(01:11:54):
majority of the starters for the Baltimore Ravens offense. But
I mean in those situations when you go out and
beat the snot out of him like you did, and
you get that little edged I mean Joe Burrow talking
some smack in the postgame press conference when week U
when week Martindale down their defensive coordinator for the Ravens
and said, hey, let's not get the gold jacket for

(01:12:14):
Joe yet. Earlier this week, I mean I kind of
like my quarterbacks to have a little edge like Joe
Burrow Show today. Let me ask a question, by the way,
if you were running things for the Ravens, um, if
we said, hey, Ravens on our Ravens online too, are
you going to go ahead and give Lamar Jackson the
five year, three million dollar contract? Uh? And we have

(01:12:35):
to know right now the answer is sure? Why not?
I mean I think did you have you? Did you
see him without him? I mean, listen, I know that
you fall in love when they look pretty good the
week before. I know you sure they did and they lost.
I know you fall in love with every backup quarterback
who has a big game and you want to give
them all the money. But there's when is that panned

(01:12:58):
out for every rich again? And there's Matt Flynn's out
there that get a huge contract and never do anything.
I mean, you've got an m VP candidate, Your offense
is built around him, all right, shouldn't say m VP
candidate this year, but you've got a guy that's won
the m v P. Why are you so quick to
move on from Lamar Jackson? UM one? Because he's not
had the great couple of seasons since his m v
P season. That's that's that's the first thing, right. Don't

(01:13:21):
you think he's taking a couple of step backwards too?
I know he had the running game problem with the
injuries before the start of this year, but I don't
know if I could fork over that type of money, Chris.
They want a playoff game last year that was the
big knock against him, the three union million. Now then, yeah, Artie,
I mean, this is my biggest frustration. That's not even

(01:13:41):
a question. Yeah, it's not a question. This is yeah,
if it was up to you and I'm just and
you are basically now taking the heat for everyone on
Twitter that does this. You want to bench every quarterback
after an interception, You want to cut him after a loss.
You're ready to rebuild after one tough outing. I mean,

(01:14:02):
are you done with Justin Herbert after today? No? Of
course not. Are you done with Matt Staffordy through through
bicks today? Of course not? Okay, Well, why are you
trying to move on from a quarterback? I mean Lamar
Jackson hasn't played in two or three weeks now, I
mean hasn't been healthy. He probably hasn't been healthy all
season long. Aren'tie, and you're wondering whether or not you're
gonna pay a guy that's won the m v P

(01:14:22):
and has you relevant. It's just a boatload of money
for places. You could use that money else elsewhere. If
you signed a quarterback that isn't going to take up
all that type of cash. Well, I mean, I don't
know if you've noticed some thing is what Cleveland's gonna
go through with Baker Mayfield? Right? And are they gonna
end up being a better team? I don't know, Probably not.

(01:14:45):
I mean, listen to shows tonight, Arenie. I can't have
these conversations that are gonna be taking place five years
from now. But I just I've never understood this. Yeah,
why would you we look how good Josh Johnson looked today?
What's you like? The Huntley guy from the last couple
of weeks? So great? Go sign him in Cleveland, there
you go. Don't give him in Cleveland to build a
team around him. I would bet you that of Cousins

(01:15:07):
was the quarterback of the Ravens, they would do just
as good or better. See, we can't make that back
because we have no idea how that would work out.
But let me let me just check this real quick.
Do you know what Kirk Cousins is making right now,
aren't he? He's making a boatload of money you're not
getting You're not You can deal for that good quarterback

(01:15:28):
out there, You're right about unless you gotta be the
rookie contract there. You're right about that. That. And again,
if you get him in those rookie contracts, eventually you're
going to have to pay them if they're making decent money.
I mean, I don't know what to make it a year,
but I'm not saying you're not getting paid. You're doing well.
But man, you I'll tell you what. You know what,
I'll give you something more more comparable. I would think
Derek Carr would do a better job for the Ravens

(01:15:51):
and Lamar Jackson. I think Derek Carr would probably um
be better in those places outside of Vegas. I'll tell
you this much. The fans would finitely respect and enjoy
and appreciate it more than Raider fans do. But you
know what, when we come back on a Fox Football Sunday,
let's dive into some of those quarterback questions from Week sixteen.
Steve the Segar on top next here on Fox Sports Radio. Oh,

(01:16:18):
it's already in plague, Bobo spinning the tunes, Danny g
in the house, and Steve de Seger. What's going on, Steve.
We'll get to the Sunday night and the Monday night
NFL matchups. But first off, a programming notice. The Holiday
Bowl is on Fox TV this Tuesday night from San
Diego u c l A against NC State that will
be at the Padres Ballpark Petco Park. And by the way,

(01:16:40):
Tuesday's when the NHL is due to resume. They've been
off due to COVID long holiday break. We already know
from a press release tonight. Three games for this coming
week have been postponed. Teams just started returning to practice
today and to be tested. The league has made some
roster revisions taxi squads for replacement players, trying to avoid
what has been happening to Tomorrow night hockey schedule. There

(01:17:01):
were fourteen game schedule all postponed, so nearly sixty five
hockey games have been postponed. Could they in the college
football take some of the teams out the game's postponed
and played against each other. No, they would have to.
They've also been talking about what if someone's already played,
like this Sun Bowl in El Paso. What if you
get U TEPS team that's already played and just have
them play in their own stadium in El Paso. Apparently

(01:17:23):
the rules would have to be changed, so there are
procedural steps to it. But yeah, the University of Miami
did withdraw from the Sun Bowl this week due to
COVID issues. The opponent, Washington States, already there in El Paso,
so we'll see if they get a game. That's at
the end of the week. Friday, New Year's Eve, two
bowl games were canceled due to COVID issues. The Military

(01:17:43):
Bowl with Boston College BC was already in d C,
had been for the game since last Wednesday, and Wednesday's
new Fenway Bowl will not happen because of Virginia. They
had been there since last Wednesday, that is correct, and
they just now, oh my god, they couldn't solve the
COVID issues. Virginia waited to travel and waited, and finally

(01:18:05):
was unable to travel to play s MU. More players
tested positive. BC had said that it had over forty
players total unavailable to play East Care. We already know
Texas A and m was replaced in the Gator Bowl
Hawaii on Christmas. Eve was unable to play the Hawaii Bowl.
So that's how things are. And now you have in
the NFL Ian Book as a starting quarterback because Tayson Hill,

(01:18:27):
we assume and Trevor Simions are going to remain among
the fifteen or so Saints who tested positive or on
the list, so Book would be the fourth starting quarter
one players tonight. Yeah. I just saw the coaches back
players and four coaches. That means the team will only
have forty nine players available from Monday's game. And Steve,

(01:18:49):
that's of right now, thirty six active roster roster players
and thirteen practice squad players. So you gotta do what
somebody did today. I saw a guy get a carry
and play on special teams and be listed as a
defensive back. You just go, Gordie Lockbon on him. I
know Arnie will get that reference from small college. I

(01:19:09):
will say for the Saints, they're up to seven and seven.
They had the five games kid recently, but they won
two straight and the defense has been there and they're
going up against the Miami team that's seven and seven
has won sixth straight. That's the matchup at New Orleans
tomorrow night. Tonight at Dallas. It was Washington visiting. You know,
they had started the season two and six, then one
four in a row. Get your hopes up in that division.
And then they lost to Dallas, lost to Philadelphia, and

(01:19:31):
I lost badly to Dallas again, down to seven at
the half. Cowboys corner Trayvon Diggs is the first player
with eleven interceptions in a season in the last forty
years since ever Everson Walls one. So kudos. Steelers lost badly.
They were down thirty to nothing in the third quarter
at Kansas City today. This is how bad it's been.

(01:19:52):
The Steelers became the first team in NFL history, according
to a p two in three straight road games be
down by at least twe three at a half. Also,
they've failed to score a touchdown the first half of
five straight games home more road for the first time
since nineteen Meanwhile, same division, Cincinnati had its game an
explosion of offense today and now sits alone in first

(01:20:14):
place in the a f C North with a nine
and six record. Bengals, with thirty one points in the
first half, beat Baltimore one thirty three first downs for
the Bengals offense and Cincinnati. Joe Burrow through for five
hundred twenty five yards in the Bengals win, fourth most
in any NFL game. The record is still from way
back in ninety one Norm Van Brocklyn l A rams

(01:20:36):
through for five fifty four in a game. If you
want to talk about yes, I'm sorry to just backing
up a little bit. Didn't Dak Prescott throw a touchdown
to a running back, a receiver, an offensive lineman? And
I forget who the fourth was as the first time
that's ever been done in NFL history. I think tight end, Yeah, yeah,

(01:20:58):
spread it around. Yes, those were the fourth touchdown passes
in the Dallas win. So on the of all the
yardage on the receiving end of that was the Baltimore
with the league's second worst past defense. And I don't
know if you saw the coach's handshake or whatever that
was at Mayfield, it's Joe Burrow got the Bengals franchise
record for yardage when after the two minute warning he

(01:21:21):
threw a fifty two yard bomb and then breaks Boomerisiasens mark.
He had thrown for five two Burrow finishes with five
five through the air, since the merger. There were a
couple of guys that throw for five twenty seven, Warren
Moon and Matt Shaub and for Houston guy named Jonathan Owens,
whose girlfriend Simone Biles was at the game today. Owen

(01:21:43):
spent most of the season on the Texans practice squad
only started today because of all the COVID absences. Got
his first interception first half and second half, recovered a fumble,
Chargers three turnovers lost at Houston. Did not take the
TV cameras long to find Simone Biles did not at all.
More game reaction coming up, and we kick off our
three great stuff to Seger when we come back with

(01:22:05):
our time honor tradition after week sixteen. We know this.
We'll dive into it next with Arnie Spanier. I'm Chris Plank,
It's Fox Sports Radio. Oh, final hours, thinking, James, let's go,
let's do this. You realize that, I mean, we're we're
getting hanged next Friday night. Happy New Year's Eve. By

(01:22:26):
the way, we're party animals. We're doing a four hour show.
That's that's how we celebrate the New Year. But you
do realize that by the time we convene next week,
the playoff picture should be a little bit clear. But
we'll also have the two teams set for the national championship.
Most of the bowl games will be behind us. Let it.

(01:22:47):
I mean, I hate to get to nostalgic, but college
football will pretty much be in the rear view. That
makes me sad. But in the NFL Arenie, I don't know.
I I kind of feel like that we'll have a
pretty good idea. Who's got a chance to played for
a playoff berth in the final week of the season.
Who may have already clinched one. I still think it's
it's gonna come down to the final week. Obviously, there's
you mentioned about four five games that are going to

(01:23:10):
have implications. And by the way, since you're bringing up
and I thought this was gonna be your point before,
do you take all when they you're talking about flixing
games out the Saturday and Sunday night and stuff like that,
do you steal all the good games? You gotta leave
some good games on Sunday early though. Yeah, you can't
take all the good games from them. Gad you know
you're absolutely right, Um, you absolutely or positively right. You

(01:23:33):
gotta be careful too, because obviously NBC is a big
but you gotta worry about your TV partners. I don't
need to break down everyone to think understands it, but
I mean, you've got to be wary of you know,
a what you have in your contracts. Be you want
to make sure that Fox still has it's marquee game,
which was supposed to be Kansas City in Pittsburgh today?

(01:23:54):
Wait was that CBS? Whatever was that? The game of
the week was that three five Chiefs Lers game? It
was a blowout, right, So you want to try to
get the best match up. But it's a great question, aren'tie?
Who who do you give the juice to? Right? Do
you make those Saturday games huge? Because there won't be
any college games going on on that Saturday, I mean nothing?
Do you make the Sunday games even bigger in that

(01:24:16):
final week of the season. I mean, it's a fascinating
debate that I'm sure as being had within the NFL
offices with their teams. I thought the Saturday games were done.
I didn't know there were going to be more. Did
you not listen to what the sagers said like three
times tonight? I know that, but well, but I thought
they were done that's what I was looking up the
times and stuff. I'm like, I couldn't find when they
were playing on Saturdays. Every single game is listed as

(01:24:38):
a Sunday game in the final week of the season
right now, right, Steve, Yeah, I think it's the Thursday
ones that might be done. But they purposely don't list
any Saturday for week eighteen or any Sunday night for
weekend eighteen. But games with playoff implications will be moved
into those slots. So we'll find out maybe by the
time we hit the show next Sunday night, because they
have to do it later than six days prior. Once

(01:25:01):
everything's finished next Sunday, that's January second, there will only
be one game left for everybody, and I assume we'll
know by that. You don't pay attention to the show,
do you. You're just doing something that you're just set
on your Dolphins and wanted to call your shot. If
anything about the Dolphins, I would have been right there.

(01:25:21):
But Mary, Christmas though, by the way, did arrive. We're
all happy. Did you get my gift? I said, you aren't. No,
you haven't got my gift yet, I said, Joe, But
I don't get mail. I only get mail like once
a week. Now, we've already concluded that out in the
country where he lives in New England, the guy actually
speeds past the neighborhood and throws the letters out the windows.

(01:25:44):
Our mailman broke is like, so we only get like
mail once a week unless we drive into town to
get it ourselves. I was gonna send you some sooner
gear um, but my wife bought like a I mean,
it's not like it's it's ruining anything. But we sent
you some uh, some glasses, and we sent you some
a nice ornament, and I sent you a hat so

(01:26:05):
you can actually have a good oh you have. I
sent you so you could actually represent a winner. But
you will get your mail once a week, he said,
about like once when Ned broke his leg. We're hoping
Ted was gonna doot his brother Ted. But in his
town they only get the email once a week, so
it's really really I usually pick up my email when
I drive out to the outer. By the way, Mr Oklahoma,

(01:26:31):
when are you going to the Alamo Bowl. I'm leaving
Tuesday afternoon, right day before the game. Yes, I don't
have fortunated about that. Unfortunately, I've never been to San Antonio.
My whole family was gonna go, and then I literally
found out, like five minutes ago, no one is going
with me. So I'm rolling down solo on Tuesday. It's
about a six and a half seven hour drive. And

(01:26:53):
UH call a game didn't have to be great degrees? Right?
Are you doing the play by play? No? No, no,
I'm the sideline guy. Sometimes I thought you'd call. Well.
I got to call the Bowl game last year with
the unfortunate circumstance of my guy Toby Rowland contracted COVID,
so we hadn't missed the game. But we're all healthy
this or at least I think we are. That is

(01:27:15):
how our Isaac Lohenron got to call to charge your games, right.
I was watching the boothcam of Isaac uh call in
the game. But I guess I mean someone had sent
this tweet earlier. And since you brought up Bowl games,
we'll get to after week sixteen. We know this. But
it was it was actually a really good point, and
I think I need to maybe I can give a

(01:27:36):
little bit of clarification. Pactwal Football goour hit us up
and said the Utes are risking a chance to play
in the Rose Bowl for a trip to Disneyland. With
bowl games being canceled all over the place, is it
worth it to make that trip. I think once you're testing,
you get there, you don't have to worry about testing anymore.
That's kind of yeah. And you're so, I think you're

(01:27:59):
gonna go. And as long, it's a fair point because
you are counting on people if they do have symptoms
or if they are sick. Aren't to be honest and
upfront right and saying, hey, I'm but it's called the
Magic Kingdom? Are you saying you don't magically not get
COVID at the happiest place. By the way, did you
see the ticket the situation that Ohio States sent sent

(01:28:21):
some tickets back and Utah has asked for more and
sold more for the ball. Yeah, I think they're gonna
play that game regardless. But it's a fair point because
I'm like, for instance, I'm watching every Bowl game. Every
Bowl game has festivities that you're supposed to do beforehand.
The Sooners were at Sea World today, right, The Oklahoma
Sooners were at Sea World doing everything, And in your mind,
you're like, but I just I think I think everyone's

(01:28:44):
in a spot to where they feel like their numbers
are good enough to go ahead and play that game. Now.
I may have just jinxed it and everything could get
banged tomorrow, but I'm really surprised that we're still canceling
bowl games. The NFL has changed its protocols, the NBA
has changed its protocols. College football still as he's antiquated
protocols that it's it's too late. They've they've routed basketball.

(01:29:05):
They gotta fix them, they gotta fix and they got
there's no way that, there's no way by Arizona is
gonna make up all those games. But that's now. Is
this an Arizona problem or is it everyone around? It
just happened to be a Washington problem the first time around,
It was a u U c L a USC problem
the second and third time around. I I can't keep
it trustrated anymore. Well, before we hit the locker rooms,

(01:29:26):
and before I chase everyone away with bulgame talk and
COVID college basketball talk that's already playing on a Fox
Football Sunday Brought to you by Discover. Real credit card
questions require real people, someone who understands your issues and
works to resolve them with you That's why I discover
offers helpful US based representatives available, discover exceptionally common sense.

(01:29:46):
Arnie Spanier after a week sixteen, which will be final
after Monday Night's game between the Saints and the Dolphins,
after a week sixteen of the NFL, I know this,
after weeks exceed in the NFL, I know this, And
it took exactly after this week to really kind of
let it sink in and realize that Russell Wilson won't

(01:30:08):
be back at his quarterback in the Seattle Seahawks. That's it.
This year has been too this is the bysibo. Uh.
They're gonna move on from Pete Carroll, They'll move on
from Russell Wilson, will get a whole bunch of return.
They'll start the rebuilding process. It is ov R for
Russell Wilson in Seattle. You know what, I'm gonna take
this same path because I don't agree with this, I

(01:30:31):
don't think it's right. But after week sixteen, I think
it's over for Baker in Cleveland, and I think he's
gonna go somewhere else, and I think he's gonna ball out.
I think he's gonna have a really great career. I
think you're looking. You brought up Russell Wilson, you know,
I I know Danny g disagrees with me on this.
I kind of like Derek karrn In Vegas, UM and
and guys like Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield. I think those

(01:30:54):
are four guys who are gonna be on the move.
I still don't think Aaron Rodgers is going anywhere. I
know you you, but I think in Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield, UM,
Derek Carr, Deshaun Watson. I know this might sound weird
to some people, but maybe even a Kirk Cousins because
he's going into the last year in his contract and
they drafted Kellen mon. I just think, Arnie that after

(01:31:18):
week sixteen, I've realized that they are all four of
those five guys deserve a fresh start. I don't know
what Deshaun Watson deserves, but I just I feel like
they can all have success in other places, and I
think they will after weeks week sixteen. I know this,
and I knew this about three years ago, Chris, but
I guess since the show is today, we gotta do

(01:31:39):
it today. Daniel Jones is not a starting quarterback in
the NFL today. Why are you picking on a dude
it didn't even play. Don't care. I've been saying this right,
he hasn't played for a while. It's time to move
on from this guy. It's time to go ahead and
get youself another quarterback. You're worse than the Jets. For

(01:32:00):
crying out, you're worse than the Jets. Enough is enough
of Daniel Jones. Move on, get yourself a real quarter
a real quarterback. So let me let me just pose
one quick thought on that with the Giants, And I
know you're kind of a fringe Giants fan, you'll be
all over them when they're good. But is there a

(01:32:22):
chance that that's a place that takes a shot at
a Matt Corral or a Malik Willis or Sam Howe
or one of the college quarterbacks. You got two first
round picks, right, and it looks like both are gonna
be in the top ten. You know, get your Darryl
Stingley Jr. Or Kyle Hammond Hamilton's early and then, I
don't know, be the first team to take a quarterback
off the board. Or do you wait? I wait, I

(01:32:42):
wouldn't do that. You get yourself a veteran quarterback, and um,
I use that the strength to not my team in
other ways, I don't go for the quarterback thing. You
don't go for the quarterback. What the quarterback in the
draft though, would still be a still be a relatively
an expensive option, right, especially if you let somebody trade
up and I'll move down for like three picks. I
think now you're talking I think now you're talking. Um.

(01:33:05):
All right, since we're on quarterbacks after a week sixteen
in the NFL, in case you haven't paid attention to
what's going on in the NFC playoff picture as we
sit here tonight, the Philadelphia Eagles are in the playoffs, Arnie,
and after and after week sixteen, I think Jalen Hurts

(01:33:25):
could be the guy for another year. Now, let's be
clear here. I've always liked Jalen Hurts. I've always had
questions about accuracy with Jalen Hurts and my positive and
in what I would sell the Eagles fans and all right, listen,
I don't think I know we got the Duck Gottlie
promo that airs, and I agree with them. I don't

(01:33:46):
think he's ever gonna be, you know, the three million
dollar guy. But with what he does, and how that
locker room seems to respond to him, and how he's
kind of embraced Philly. Listen, he's taking a team him
that you aren'ty. Before the season, you and I agreed,
we thought it was gonna be one of the worst
teams in the NFL, and he's been front and center
in a team that's won eight of their fifteen games

(01:34:08):
so far. So and they're in the playoffs. So I
think Philadelphia with their three first round picks is going
to be fascinating to watch with what they do in
the NFL draft. But I also think that Jalen Hurts
has played himself into a position where he's made it
very difficult on Philadelphia to just say, well, we gave
him a chance, it didn't work, so it's time to

(01:34:28):
move on. He's been pretty damn good at times, especially
in the second after day, I like him week after
week after week. He's getting better every week. I'm starting
to like him more and more and more. Um after
week sixteen, how the hell? Because I don't know this,
are your Raiders still in the playoff ond? I thought
it was all over for them once Gruden went down
and they had a little bit of a losing cheek.
Even though they win the game after Gruden, they look

(01:34:51):
just horrible that the defense look bad, didn't look like
they were gonna win another game. Here we are two
games away and they're still in the playoff un and
they control their own destiny. The Raiders have looked horrible
in three games this year. They've looked absolutely atrocious in
both Chiefs games and then their loss to the Bengals.
Outside of that, I mean, they've they've had a chance,

(01:35:12):
and just about every game they played, maybe the Chargers
game in the Week four, the first loss of the
season is one you can look at that had the
weird lightning delay at so Fi Stadium. But I'm a
I'm in. I'm very intrigued right now. You know, Danny
g is our resident Raiders home or with me. I
don't know. Danny. I kind of like the idea of
what this team might be able to do the next

(01:35:34):
few weeks. I'd love to see him back into they
went him back into the playoffs at ten and seven.
I'd love to see him get into the playoffs because
they've been through so much this year. You had every
talking head taking the under on the Raiders win total
before the season began, what was it seven and a half?
Seven and a half? So over that now, And if
you had told any Raider fan headed into the season,

(01:35:56):
you control your own destiny going into the final two
games of the Sea and we would have signed up
in a hard beat. Is that crazy that the number
nine seed in the number eleven seed control their own destiny? Well?
I also think though two in that the the eight,
in the seven, and the six. I think every team
in front of them right now controls their own tests.
Miami moves off, the Miami moves up to at least

(01:36:18):
number ten if they win, and then if they beat
New England, they'll take New England out of a playoffs spot.
In fact um, I think I think Arnie that basically,
if you're looking at the NFL standings, uh not, including
the division winners, every team from five down to eleven
controls its own destiny to make the playoffs. And I

(01:36:43):
don't know if we've ever had a situation like this. Alright,
one more quick one because I want to get Bobo
in here, Bubbo. After week sixteen, I know this, it's
time to believe. Baby. How about them Cowboys, You've gotta
be on Cloud nine right now. Man, I'm excited. That
game was just everything I needed to see. Now it's
need us to keep that up against the Cardinals. Like
I just I need that same energy the rest of

(01:37:04):
the season and postseason. And I'm good. Tell you what, man,
you played. You get Randy Gregory back on that defense
with kindle the way he's playing. I mean, that's already.
I gotta tell you. It's one of the pleasant surprises
of this season. I think it's how good that saying
that when they had lost three or four, now that
they won four new hold on, hold on, you got

(01:37:28):
your damn nerd. For the last two years, you've been
crying about how too is not that guy? Uh two
is not ready? I don't know what's wrong with my dolphin. Yeah. Now,
whoever speaks up when their team is losing? Bro Like, seriously,
I'm a Laker fan and we are got off of

(01:37:49):
right now. I was called a spade a spade when
we were playing bad. The Cowboys were bad. We did
not look good when we lost in November. We looked horrible.
We look woke, we woke up and realize, oh yeah,
we're the Cowboys. Do I think the Lakers are gonna
do that. No, I don't, and I'm being honest right now.
I think the Lakers are gonna make the pop in

(01:38:09):
the playoffs, even though we're not talking about basketball. But
they suck, not good, I will say. I do find
it funny that Arnie is trying to give someone grief
for liking their team when they're good. Where as soon
as the Miami Dolphins fall behind you, Oh yeah, he
wasn't ready. Where's Fitching magic? You want Ryan Fitzpatrick back?

(01:38:33):
That's what you want, all right? Hit us up on
Twitter at Stinking Genius one. That's Harnie. I'm at Plank Show,
and everybody should be following us at Fox Sports Radio.
When we come back, we'll hit the post game sound
plus Arnie's picks or right around the corner on a
Fox Football Sunday Arnie and Plank on the Fox Football Sunday. Gosh,
I feel like we have like four hours worth of

(01:38:54):
show we could still do. I know it shows Flying

discover dot com slash match limitations apply. One more thing.

(01:39:18):
I did want to throw out the things that we've
learned this week. We've we've learned at least I feel
like I've learned that the NFL just continues to basically
flex its muscle as the King. I like the n F,
n B A and we're gonna talk a lot of
NBA on this show as we segue into two January
and February March, and obviously into the postseason. And part

(01:39:42):
of it again, isn't the NBA's fault with the COVID
issues they've had and Trey Young not being in the
lineup for the Hawks against the Knicks yesterday, and obviously
Katie Less nets versus a Lakers team, which now that's
it's so bad with the Lakers. Their starting rumors that
Lebron likes what's going on in Cleveland more than he
likes what's going on with the Lakers. Don't see what

(01:40:03):
the numbers are gonna be against the NFL, though, Well,
but that's my point that I'm getting to Arnie Is
I just it's amazing to me how the NFL just
completely and totally overshadowed the NBA. I mean, I'm how
many conversations did you have about it? Were you work?
Did you do a show last night? No? No, But
I mean, in general, how many conversations have been had

(01:40:23):
on Fox Sports Radio today about the Christmas Day games?
I mean, if you are having that conversation, it's forced,
and you're doing it because either you're someone that covers
the NBA um or you're just a die hard fan
who can't get away from your team. It's just it's amazing.
And I know it's unique because that's Christmas Day doesn't

(01:40:44):
always fall on to Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday where
you typically have NFL games. But Arnie, I think we're
gonna see some massive numbers for those two Saturday games
in the NFL. I really both games happen to be
good ones, both had playoff implications, problems, packards called Cardinals.
Uh no, out about that, as you mentioned so much
out with the COVID in the NBA, and usually there's

(01:41:05):
the start of the NBA season they say is Christmas.
I think it's gonna be just just terrible for them
when when the ratings come out, attitude, and I think,
you know, it's something for the NFL. I don't think
you're magically if Christmas is on a Wednesday, I don't
think you're magically gonna start playing a Wednesday NFL game
And what would be what Week sixteen of the NFL,

(01:41:26):
But it definitely aren't. It's got to be something that
is gonna raise the eyebrows because you had two great games.
Well maybe it was great because I actually got to
sit and watch the Cardinals. Colts came uninterrupted. But you
had two intriguing games with compelling teams and big time
matchups and I thought they all delivered. So again, just
just one final thing to add. The NFL continues to

(01:41:48):
flex its muscles, and I just I think that they're
going to dominate when the TV ratings come out on
Monday or Tuesday, whenever they come out. Well, I enjoyed
the Knicks and the Hawks. That was kind of fun
to start, of course they did because your team won
by a million. All right, let's hit the locker room,
shall we? Recapping what we learned not only in Week sixteen,
but also from some of the standouts like, I don't know,

(01:42:09):
pretty good day for Joe Burrow and maybe there was
a little extra motivation for Joe Burrow. Now I wasn't
aware of this little controversy from Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator
Wink Martindale, but it didn't get past the Cincinnati media.
You see the comments this week from Weinke Bartindale about
knot keeping ulicle e Jackie just oh yeah, I did

(01:42:29):
did that mean anything to you at all? Didn't resonate
with you at all. I didn't think it was a
necessary comment. I wouldn't say I was offended by it.
I mean, I'm in year two. Who knows what's going
to happen down the road. Was it on your mind?
We borrowing at the end? Maybe I love it? I
love it? Uh, And then you know there was it

(01:42:51):
was a little bit icy at the postgame handshake, but
you know, I I kind of actually dug what. You know.
The Bengals approach as a wholes like, hey, listen, we're
not We're not coming out here to apologize for anything, because,
as Zach Taylor said, they they're not gonna feel sorry
for anyone. No, no, no, no, no, no Week seventeen.
Last year, we had hardly anybody left and I didn't

(01:43:13):
feel anybody minimizing their win against us, and so we
sure it's had no heart and it is win in December.
These guys have fought hard. We asked them to answer
the bell. They did, and that's still the Baltimore Ravens
out there were playing meaningful football for them, And so
our guys shouldn't apologize for one second for the performance
they went out there and do today. And dang proud
of those guys for how they hung in there at
the full course of the game and handled the adversity
we've had over the course of time too. And you know,

(01:43:33):
it's just our time to sit out there and make
a mark for ourselves. One um probably not surprising that
the Bengals won the game, but uh as he brought
up Week seventeen, Baltimore beat since he thirty eight to
three in a game Arnie where the the leading passer

(01:43:56):
for the Cincinnati Bengals was one Brandon Allen who threw
for forty eight yards forty eight yards. He was six
of one for forty eight yards and two picks. So yeah,
they don't have to apologize for anything you're telling me that,
And I don't think John Harball was really that upset.
I'm gonna play his clip in just a bit. But

(01:44:16):
the dude who was running the football late in the
game to to kind of preserve their one hundred yard
game rushing streak whenever the game was in the bag
is gonna say something about a team throwing when they're
up big like that late come. I loved it too,
you know. Um, at first I thought maybe Baltimore was
gonna come on back since that he would be playing
the Patriots. I believe in the first round other playoffs

(01:44:38):
that they were gonna start this week with a great
matchup that would would be too one more to wrap
kind of the post game from that one. Here's John Harball.
How comes they're meaningful? They matter, but kind of one
game season. It's not a one game career, you know.
So we'll keep fighting. We've got two more games left
here in the regular season. See if we can do
something meaningful this year. We'll get some guys help, We'll
get a bunch of guys healthy and um, we'll see

(01:44:59):
what we can do. Four straight losses now for the
Baltimore Ravens and their final two games. They're no joke.
It's the Rams and the Steelers. Now again, we can
have a debate about how the Rams have played, but
I think you even brought this up earlier. Are and
you think that you think that maybe John Harbaugh is
regretting a little bit some of those two point conversion

(01:45:20):
opportunities he took against Cleveland and Pittsburgh late in those games.
Oh yeah, even if he wins one of those games. Yeah, Um,
it's a nine and six record and a whole different situation.
You better believe he is right now. They may be
on the outside looking in after next week. Or here's
the crazy thing. After Cleveland last night or yesterday afternoon,
after what the Bengals did to the Ravens today, and

(01:45:43):
after watching what happened to the Steelers against the Chiefs,
any of those four teams from the a f C
North can still win the division? Oh wow, It's it's
just it's crazy. But that's where we are right now,
with how wildly competitive that division has been. So that's
just the post game from one game. When we come back,
we'll here from Matt Stafford, who had an interesting day,

(01:46:04):
a very confidence building day for Josh Allen and suddenly
the Raiders are knocking on the door of the playoffs.
But first, Steve to Seger with one final look at
what went on in the world of sports today with
what's trending, what's going on? Steve. As far as the
Ravens possibly kicking themselves at the end of the season,
let's not forget the first Monday Night game because at
Las Vegas the Raiders kicked a fifty five yard field

(01:46:24):
goal to send it to overtime and then one it
late in the OT So that started the season with
the Baltimore loss. So yeah, they built up a good
record up until this past month. But oh and four
in December, and as you mentioned, hosting the Rams next week.
The Rams have won four in a row and clinched
a playoff berth with the win at Minnesota today thirty
to twenty three, eleven and four record for the Rams.

(01:46:46):
Arizona's clinched a playoff berth despite three straight losses. Sony
Michelle and the Rams had twenty seven carries, a hundred
thirty one yards and a score. Darrell Henderson suffered and
knee injury. Vikings are seven and eight now next Sunday Night,
It's Minnesota at Green Bay. Matthew Stafford, as we mentioned
earlier in the show, was not good today. Through three interceptions,
one touchdown to Odell Beckham, Cooper cup Well ten catches

(01:47:09):
a hundred nine yards. He's the first player with at
least ninety receiving yards in fourteen different games in a
single season. Michael Irvin had done that fifth in thirteen games,
and Tonio Brown as well fourteen different games and counting
cups up to a hundred thirty two catches this season,
already fifth most in the history of the NFL, and

(01:47:29):
with two games left on the expanded schedule, he has
a shot at Michael Thomas's record from a couple of
years ago, when on a sixteen game schedule, Thomas had
a hundred forty nine receptions. Cup has a hundred thirty
two him the m v P Yeah, others have been
okay as well. Punt return touchdown turned out to be
key for the Rams they win by seven. Meanwhile, for Minnesota,

(01:47:50):
one positive Justin Jefferson still great a hundred sixteen yards
receiving and he passes Odell Beckham. Fellow l s u
Alum for the NFL record most re siving yards in
your first two seasons. Jefferson's over Adam Celand, though returned
from missing a couple of games, had three catches, aggravated
the ankle injury a couple of times barely played in
the second half. Chargers lost nine at Houston as Rex

(01:48:14):
Burke had had twenty two carries for a hundred forty
nine yards and two scores. So a Texans team that
was one and six at home got to win against
a Charger team that is slumping three turnovers today, a
team that started the season four and one is now
four and six in their last ten games. But as
we mentioned earlier, even though the Chargers lose the head

(01:48:35):
to head tiebreaker with the Ravens at the moment for
the last playoffs, but if the Chargers win their last
two and they're both division games and the Ravens can't
beat the Rams next week, well the Chargers could still
very much get into the postseason. What a lot of
us want to see is that it comes down to
Chargers at Raiders on the final day of the Dallas

(01:49:00):
on tonight fIF fourteen over Washington Dak Prescott four touchdown passes.
Next Sunday, Dallas hosts Arizona and then ends up at Philadelphia.
Philly running back Miles Sanders left today's win over the
Giants with a possible broken hand. The Las Vegas win
was a comeback against Denver seventeen thirteen. This is the
Denver team that's going to be at the Chargers next week.
Bronchos are down to seven and eight, last place in

(01:49:20):
the a f C West. Today, with Drew Lock at quarterback,
the Broncos had nine drives eight first downs. Josh Jacobs
had a hundred twenty nine yards rushing. The Broncos to
running backs fourteen carries eight yards rushing. Next Sunday, Vegas
at Indie. By the way, and as we look at
the ratings from that Colts game this past weekend that

(01:49:41):
was only on NFL Network Saturday night, the Colts game
against the Cardinals, and it still might get double the
audience of the NBA was up against. But because of
the holidays, they say they're not expecting the weekend ratings
out until Wednesday, same with the new year's ratings not
until the next Wednesday. Kansas City clinched its division title
for sixth straight year, beating Pittsburgh thirty six to ten,

(01:50:03):
and tighten Travis Kelsey did not play turns out he
did not clear today's COVID protocols, and running back Clyde
Edwards Hilaire Casey You had a touchdown left with a
collar bone injury. X rays were negative. By the way,
the Monday night game next week in his Pittsburgh hosting
Cleveland Chicago in the snow at Seattle on a late
touchdown pass and two point conversion by Nick Foles in

(01:50:23):
his first game of the year with Justin Fields and
Andy Dalton out so a comeback win and key to
this the Seahawks missed a thirty nine yard field goal
attempt mid fourth quarter and eventually lost by a point.
Joe Burrow over five hundred yards passing and the win
against Baltimore Buffalo one at New England Tampa Bay one
to clinch a division title victories for the Jets and Atlanta.

(01:50:44):
Now the Jets, there were actually two offensive linemen that
scored in that game, one for each team, and for
the Atlanta win against Detroit. Kyle Pitts, rookie tight end.
He's up to nearly nine hundred fifty yards receiving for
the season amazingly with all the passing the days, the
rookie record for a tight end still belongs to Mike
dick Ka from a thousand yeards season, and that was

(01:51:07):
in a fourteen game schedule. Today was Atlanta's fifteen game
of the year. In case you didn't here earlier, two
bowl games this week were canceled due to COVID issues
Military Bowl and Fenway Bowl, and the University of Miami
withdrew from this week's Sun Bowl due to COVID issues.
So the opponent, Washington State is already there in El
Pass awaiting to see if they have a game. Kevin
Duranta the Nets will miss another game tomorrow due to

(01:51:28):
health protocols. Draymond Green of Golden State was placed in protocols.
College basketball still off and only two games tomorrow, and
the Holiday Bowl is on Fox TV this Tuesday night
on Fox and it's U c l A playing in
San Diego against NC State. Back to you, thanks, Steve,
have a great week, Hapy, New Year, Christmas. I can't

(01:51:48):
stop watching the Do the Kids Say the Drip that
Joe Burrow has in his postgame press conference wearing a
Santa hat with his krusty crab shirt. My god, this guy.
And you know sometimes we take for granted the importance
of weapons. Right, So your quarterback, you you, you get
it done. The Jamaar Chase pick has worked out a

(01:52:10):
lot better than I thought it would, especially after the
preseason he had. Boyd's been an unbelievable weapon for them.
Joe mix In a receiving threat out of the backfield.
I mean, I'm not I'm not. Yeah Higgins stee Higgins
who was like Jerry Rice today, I mean it. I
mean I'm not trying to get too drunk off the
Bengals win. But Arnie, I watched a team that could

(01:52:31):
do some damage if they get into the playoffs. I think,
what do they have left? You know they have left
off the top of your I know it's a tough schedule,
off the got it right here. Here's what the Bengals
have left, which starts next week with their showdown against
the Chiefs. Now, get this if and I think we
brought this up a lot. If the Chiefs beat the

(01:52:52):
Bengals and the Browns win this weekend, I think the
Browns have the Steelers that right, Um, But the Chiefs,
the Bengals and the Browns win, then the Brown Chiefs
are excuse me, the Browns Babs game in week eighteen
would be for the a f C North, not crazy,
one more one more time you okay, I drop, I'm sorry,
Chiefs beingles. If the Chiefs beat the Bengals, right, and

(01:53:15):
if the Browns win next week, then when the Bengals
and the Browns play in week eighteen, it would be
for the a f C North. How about that? So
it doesn't doesn't take two terribly much and the oh yeah,
it's so the Browns are the Steelers next week and
then they wrap up with the Bingles, and so that
would leave, that would leave regardless, Baltimore could finish tennis seven,

(01:53:38):
so you need one more loss there from Baltimore. I
think Baltimore has got to lose one of its last
two games against either the Rams of the Steelers. So
Baltimore does factor into this in some way, shape or form.
But it's still kind of shows you just how up
for grabs that a f C North truly is. Right now,
it's crazy. I left the Cleveland for dead after their loss,
I'm like, well that takes care of well, they're pretty
much done. It's it's kind of like you look at

(01:53:59):
let me give it for it's is you talk about
your Dolphins went out and you're in right, Well, did
you just see what this stupid FPI, which, by the way,
the FPI is very stupid, what their percentage was in
order four year Dolphins to actually went out. It was
like so to win three games, which is I find
that hard to believe when they're gonna be favorite in
two of the three games and one game that there
uh tendency won't have their best player. Well, here's the

(01:54:21):
who are they without Derrick Henry A. J. Brown looked
like the best player on the Titans. I watched them
on Thursday night. But even still, even if every line
is within three points and their favorite and two of them,
how's it one percent? I just think that it's run
by people who aren't Dolphin fans and are trying to
get there pretty to be a Dolphin fan. It doesn't
make sense mathematically. Um yeah, well, it's just they're not

(01:54:43):
that good, Arnie. They've beating a bunch of bad teams.
It's time to come back to Earth, and Dennis Allen's
gonna shut you down tomorrow night, much like he did
Tampa Bay and Bruce Arians the week before. But the
Bucks have a goal and that Tampa Bay Buccaneers goal
is to hang three anners and wall. Everything was about
Antonio Brown post game. I love this from Bruce Areas.

(01:55:06):
We wanted to hang free banners this year. We don't
have one of those division banners up there for a
long time, and it feels great. I mean, this is
what we focused on to win our division. Our guys
did it today and can't be more prouder of the
group that played today. It's pretty incredible, man, I was.
I didn't realize it had been that long, arnady for
the Buccaneers to have won their division. I had no idea.

(01:55:28):
In fact, whenever I saw it, what has been over
a decade. Whenever I saw how long it had been,
it was like, wait a minute, wait, that's gotta be
some sort of misprint. Uh. And no one remembers that
they did not win the division last year. But congrats
to the NFC South champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We
haven't talked about it much today, but man, they looked
pretty good. I don't hear anybody saying that team. I

(01:55:50):
don't hear anybody's saying that Brady's back after I went
ahead and said there was ov R for Tom Brady
after after last week. Well, I don't think many people
were paying attention to that game because it got so
ugly as part of the reason why he didn't have
a great game or anything like that. But yeah, I
understand that, right, um. But also I didn't hear a
lot of people coming telling you that that Brady was
done after his loss last week when they got shut out,

(01:56:11):
when he lost two of his best receivers in the
middle of the game. But well, I'm sure he did.
I'm sure that every Tom Brady Hayton media member was
all about it. I'm sure Sports Talk Barry was all
about it. But eighteen of thirty today for Tom Brady
two thirty two yards Buccaneers when it final score thirty
two to six. Yes, they are the NFC South champs

(01:56:34):
for the first time since two thousand and seven, which
seems crazy. Also, congratulations playoff birth clinch today for the Cardinals.
The Cowboys not only clinch to playoff Birth, but clinch
the a f C or NFC East excuse me, which
means what is it seventeen consecutive years where You've had
a different winner from season to season of the NFC East, which,
by the way, shows you even more how impressive it

(01:56:57):
is what Kansas City has done. It's sixth straight a
f C West. How am I doing that prediction to
the beginning of the year when I said that four
divisions were already been have been decided. Two of them
you had the Cowboys one in the East and the
Chiefs one in the West, So you're off to a
good start. I don't know how you had Green had
Green Bay. There you go, all righty, when we come back,
Arnie's picks as you can't tell he's really ready to

(01:57:19):
pat himself on the back. We'll get to the next
right here on Fox Sports Radio. By the way, just
to clarify one flex scheduling, note that we brought up
week eighteen, so not week seventeen. Week eighteen. They're gonna
flex one game to prime time on Sunday night, two

(01:57:42):
games to Saturday, and then the remainder of the games
will be in there normal time slots. Right they'll have
the newne in the three o'click games like right now.
The Raiders game is scheduled for three five against the Chargers,
for Eastern time, and the Patriots Dolphins game aren is
set for noon Central time one Eastern in week eighteen,

(01:58:04):
but the NFL will decide to flex two of those
two Saturday and one to Sunday night. Nothing has been
decided yet. We'll probably have that for you next Sunday
night right here as a break. I can't wait. I
want to. I probably I'm assuming it's gonna be Dolphins pages,
but we'll see my Patriots. Sorry, your Dolphins better win
next two weeks. That's a tough one next week against Tennessee.

(01:58:25):
Al Right, we got a lot of really good tweets
to get to. But listen, I think sometimes late in
the show, I don't give Arnie's picks plenty of time.
So what do you say we just kick it off on?
Let's go your picks to get the week started off right,
including what I mean, I know you're on like all week,
but are you gonna go ahead and pick your national championship?
Let's go. We're going right out, and we're starting with

(01:58:47):
that because Alabama is a thirteen and a half point
favorite over Cincinnati over under a fifty eight. And I
know Todd Ferman was on with us earlier said he's
gonna have to start, you know, doing a little studying
on which ways you want to go. You don't have
to study this game at all. Alabama is gonna score early,
They're gonna score often, and they're gonna score late. Matter

(01:59:09):
of fact, they could pick their own score because they're
going to round Cincinnati final score Alabama fifty six, Cincinnati seventeen.
There's your bulleted board material. Take Alabama and take the
over Georgia. Take it out Michigan. You know, as much
as I want to take out Michigan plus the seven
and a half, and you were amazed at Michigan's getting

(01:59:32):
seven and a half, were getting nine when it first
came out. I keep getting pulled back to Georgian and
how great that defense is a little worried about that
Georgia offense. But I'm gonna take the Georgia Bulldogs and
lay the seven and a half over Michigan. I think
it's gonna be like a thirty one sixteen game over
under only one. We're just gonna score thirty one on

(01:59:54):
Michigan's defense. Are you taking the under? I don't bet unders,
but I would definitely eat Yeah, I don't take is
a little bit more like what you're gonna see. My
Dolphins are a three point favorite over the Saints on
the road. Who would have thunked that Ian book at
quarterback and the Saints have a tough time moving the

(02:00:16):
ball and it's not gonna get any better. Tomorrow. I'm
gonna be on the air to celebrate my Dolphins victory
over the Saints as the Dolphins go on the win
seven games in a row and go to eight and
seven on this season, two wins away from the playoffs.
I like Cincinnati plus the four and a half against

(02:00:36):
Kansas City, and I love the Colts might is seven
and a half against your right as. So there you
have my picks, two of them, as you please. No
longer strictly for entertainment purposes, own, Actually they're still for
entertainment purposes only because you don't put any coin on
your picks. Come on, you gotta put some, do you sometimes? Yeah?

(02:01:00):
None of the time. If I had, If I put
money on the Tophins, would he not in a row?
I'd be a billionaire. Sure. Uh, they haven't won nine
in a row yet, but if they get there, then
you can say it. Uh, nature boy, hits us up
on Twitter after Week sixteen. I know this. If Lebron
was GM of the Raiders, he would have signed George
blanda By. Now that's pretty funny, uh my man. Lou
Riley writes, Chris Baker isn't worried he could have a

(02:01:23):
most successful career in TV commercials. And he's doing next
Door and he's next Door Neighbors with Alice Cooper. Do
a good job on that. He's very funny dude. But
if he would give up all the commercials to win
some football games that dude loves to win, maybe, well
money can change you, but I'll tell you what he
loves to win. Calbert writes, what happened to everyone saying

(02:01:45):
the NBA season doesn't start until Christmas Day? Those sneaky
NFL gurus took the NBA Christmas games away? Yeah, it's
not wrong. Should we be paid attention to the NBA now? Then? No,
it just started on Christmas. We shouldn't forget about it
after Christmas. That's right, we can't forget on. I only
got him inute left. Um, but several people want to

(02:02:08):
know whether or not the Cardinals are done. Here's one
from First Name last Big Ben should have retired in
halftime half. I feel like that's a tweet. We've got
a lot this year, don't you. I feel like there's
been a common tweet so far this season. And uh,
my man, Brendan Rights, don't be so down on the Raiders.
They're starting to catch fire. Next week they'll pull off
the upset by defeating the Colts, and the week after

(02:02:28):
that they'll dismantled the Chargers since they beat the Ravens
and all they have to do is win out. Now
he's right, and he's right. All they have to do
is win out and there in the playoffs. Uh, Arnie,
enjoy your week, Enjoy your new year. Also hanging out
with you. We'll be back on Friday night, filling in
for Jason and Mike from Central Time. Arnie's on all
week long. Great job by Bobo, Happy New Year, Mary, Christmas,
Danny g awesome produced in this show as always, Steve

(02:02:50):
de Sager crushing it on updates, and the millions and
millions of editors behind the scenes making this show possible.
For Artie span your I'm Chris Planks. We're back Friday
night and Sunday here on Fox Sports. Radio
