We don't have royalty in this country. Are athletes and
our entertainers, Well, there are royalty And on day at Pacific,
our royalty will be on display and over one hundred
and sixty one million of us we'll be watching. And

(02:09):
as I said many times before, sports are the greatest
reality show invented. You can script everything but the outcome,
and that's why this time of year is so much fun. Yes,
it is Super Bowl Sunday, It's upon us. On that note,
I'm Bernie Fratto. We're coming to you live from the
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios tonight. We'll feature some
Super Bowl betting nuggets, common denominator stats that matter as

(02:33):
we put the Rams and Bengals side by side in
a way that you will enjoy it. About fifteen minutes.
Will be joined by Todd Dewey, the sports betting columnist
for the Las Vegas Review Journal, and we'll take a
deeper dive into the big game. And after Brian Family's update, well,
I want to share the backstory of how the Super
Bowl started the first place and how Al Davis played

(02:53):
such a significant role. And of course we wrap up
the show with Mac and on sports, Sports your entertainment.
They're more than that, they are shared experience. As such,
people want to talk about them. And yes, you come
to the right place tonight. We've got a lot to
talk about. This is straight out of Vegas, the pregame
show you always wanted. As they say in Ziggy Wolf, Minnesota,

(03:14):
it's gonna be let now. Before I go any further,
I want to give a special birthday shout out my
good longtime buddy, Chuck Carter. Wanted to make sure you
all could share a happy birthday with a gentleman. His
name is Daryl Harden. Happy seventy birthday. Daryl was a
Master detective retired police officer from the Seal Beach Force

(03:34):
for many years. Darrell, thank you for your service. Happy birthday.
Happy seventy birthday to Darryl Harden. All right, there's so
much to get into tonight where you're gonna be drinking
from a fire hose as we start sharing the tidbits,
and I want to start with this. I'm gonna I'm
gonna start with the beginning and work backwards. I do

(03:55):
a hit with Jason Martin and Aaron Taurres every Saturday night,
and I'm gonna come right out the gate and I've
taken Cincinnati plus the four and a half points. If
you're gonna put a gun to my head, I'm gonna
call it Cincinnati. Why it's cliche, but I think it's
going to come down to the turnover battle. Now, mind you,
if the Rams win the turnover battle, they'll win. But

(04:16):
Cincinnati's twelve and one in the turnover battle in their
last thirteen games. And we know this Burrow is not
going to be able to avoid getting hit. You're not
gonna be able to avoid getting sacked. And if those
hits don't turn into fumbles and those sacks don't turn
into you know, interceptions, Ram, the Bengals are gonna win
this game. This is a very interesting team and they

(04:38):
deserve to be here. And I will tell you a
couple of the strong trends that favorite Cincinnati is a
team in the lower winning percentage that heads into the
Super Bowl their fourteen and one against the spread, eleven
and three straight up. And the other factor is teams
who were in their conference championship game. And why not
right as an underdog, they've won eleven of the last fourteen.

(04:59):
That doesn't mean it's going to happen. It just means
that's decide we are on. All right, Let's take a
look at some common denominators between these two teams. Both
teams the Rams and Bengals faced eight common opponents this
season and played a total of twenty contests and those opponents.
If your break the results down, the Bengals were six

(05:19):
and three straight up and five and four against the
number and their nine contests, but they had a net
plus hundred, six hundred and fifty seven yards. Meanwhile, the Rams,
they were seven and four straight up, but only two
and nine against the spread and the common denominated contest
that the Bengals had, and they only had a net

(05:39):
plus two hundred and six yards. Meanwhile, Cincinnati played nine
playoff teams this year. They went seven and two straight
up against the number. The Rams faced ten playoff teams
this year, they only went four and six against the
number five and five straight up. Cincinnati is the lowest

(06:00):
Super Bowl matchup in history in terms of the lowest
seated ending the entering the game. Now draw your own conclusions,
and here's a few other stats have come into play.
The Ramps have had fourteen turnovers the past seven games.
They've committed fourteen turnovers. The Bengals have committed two. I
mentioned earlier with Aaron and Jason. You know last year

(06:21):
at this time, uh when Tampa Bay was winning the
Super Bowl. People forget that. At one point they were
seven and five. There were people saying that, well, maybe
Bruce arians and Brady needed a divorce and they weren't
getting it figured out. Well, they got it figured out,
all right, and then you saw what happened. At one point,
Sincinnati was seven and six this year, and you see

(06:43):
what they've done since then. And by the way, speaking
of turnovers, they're seven and two to the good and
the turnover ratio and the playoffs alone. Finally, when it
comes down to place kicking in the postseason, well, rookie
kicker Evan Fierce and he's perfect through the a f
C playoffs, connecting on twelve straight field goal attempts, four

(07:05):
in each of Cincinnati's three wins. That's a weapon that
can matter. We'll see. Here's some interesting nuggets for you,
because it's been a long season. Cincinnati was a hundred
to one to win the Super Bowl entering the season,
which made him just the second team a hundred one
or longer to reach the Super Bowl in the past

(07:26):
forty seasons. The only team with those kind of odds. Yeah,
you guessed it. The greatest show on turf was St.
Louis and Kurt Warner in the St. Louis Rams. Ironically,
according now, I will tell you they were one of
five teams this season with a hundred one ons. I'm
talking about Cincinnati, the other four for Houston, Detroit, Jacksonville

(07:47):
in the New York Jets. Here's another stat. Underdogs of
at least three points are seven and two outright and
eight and one against the spread in the Super Bowl.
Since even underdogs if at least three and a half
points are six and old against the spread five and
one out right in the Super Bowl in that same span,

(08:08):
and since two thousand one, underdogs are nine and six
outright in twelve and three against the number. So look,
this is a coin flip game. This is a very
close game. And when you consider that the Bengals are
seven and oh against the spread, six and one out
right as an underdog at least three points this season,
including six and a lot right when Joe Burrow starts,
Burrows eleven and two against the spread in his career

(08:31):
as an underdog of at least three points, seven and
five outright. Burrow is also seven and old against the
spread and postseason games in his career dating back to college,
including bowl games and conference championship games. He's three and
all against the number outright in his pro career. In
the postseason, obviously, he's just had the three straight games.

(08:53):
Now you may say that's a lot of gobbledygook, it
speaks to me a certain d n, a a certain culture,
a certain mindset this team has. Look, it was, it's
sort of ironic. You know, they lost to the Jets
earlier in the season, but they also went into Baltimore
and spank. And when Baltimore was good, they went into
Tennessee and beat a very good Tennessee team and number

(09:14):
one seed. They deserved to win that game. Uh, they
beat the Chiefs twice, not only beat the Chiefs twice
in the second half of both of those games. Well,
they held the Chiefs to three points in the playoff
game and six points in the regular season game. You know,
the Bengals got some ballhawks of their own, a couple

(09:35):
of guys named Jesse Bates and Von Bell. If you're
wondering how the game's being bettent of the tickets around
the Bengals. But Rams money, remember not all bets are
created equal. Rams money outweighs Bengals money two to one,
and by the way of folks are on the over.

(09:55):
Here's some trends, Zell some additional trends. The Rams are
ten and ten against the spread this season, and there's
six and three against the number in their past nine games.
They've gone over ten of their last twenty games this season,
so well not you know, nothing nothing to shake a
stick at their now. The Rams have failed to cover

(10:16):
in the conference championship game, and teams that failed to
cover in the Conference championship game yet advanced to the
Super Bowl through only three eight and one against the
spread and three and nine outright, that's not a small sample,
something to just pay attention to. The Rams are also
two and seven against the spread against a FC teams

(10:39):
in the past two seasons, one and four this season,
and the over and nunders of corn of alternated. You know,
I think this game is gonna be a first half under.
But I think both offenses will get rebbed up in
the second half and settled down, and I think you'll
see some points uh in the second half, And I
would not prize it would not surprise me if the

(11:02):
game climbs over. And what's interesting is it opened at
forty nine and a half, and what pros typically do
is they wait till the night before the game UH
to get on the under because typically the public recreational
bettors like to pound the over. And you you know,
we might have been not inconceivable to see that line
go from forty nine to forty nine and a half
to fifty whatever it's going the other way. It's down

(11:25):
to forty seven and a half. I have not touched
the game over. I have played the first half under
of twenty four. It's now down to twenty three and
a half. We'll see there's too much offensive firepower on
both sides of being know the thirteen three game like
four years ago, But then again, you don't have Bill
Belichick in this game either. UH. And the Rams defense, look,
they've got some playmaking studs who are very opportunistic. They

(11:47):
went out and got von Miller for a reason, they
went out got Eric Well for a reason. They got
Jalen Ramsey last year, and Aaron Donald. He's right up
there with Reggie White and Lawrence Taylor is one of
the greatest defensive players of all time. But satistically, that
doesn't mean the Rams have been great and I will
tell you be careful. Uh, that's all the Cincinnati Bengals
have heard for two weeks. So their offensive line stinks

(12:10):
because that's what the statistics tell you, and they don't lie.
Joe Burrow was sacked fifty one times this year. That's something.
But what if the Bengals come out of the gate
with a couple of jail break screens, they run some counters, traps, draws,
max protects, three three step drops, two receiver sets whatever.
I think Zach Taylor is a genius, I do, and

(12:31):
so I think John mcveigh's too. So I think we're
in for a hell of a chess match tomorrow. Let's
look at some Bengals trends twenty games. It's interesting. This is,
believe it or not. This is the twenty first football
game for both these teams this year. Wow, Cincinnati's thirteen
and seven against the spread this season, and they've been
a bit of an under team. They've gone under an

(12:51):
eleven other twenty games, but nothing significant. Joe Burrows, I said,
three and oh against the number and outright in the
postseason is also four and oh and fours against the
spread outright, and his college careering all the bowl games
and conference championship games, including two and oh against the
number and outright in the College Football Playoff. Now, this

(13:13):
is this is important. This this is not lost on me.
The Bengals are seven and oh against the spread and
six and run out right when they've been an underdog
of at least three points this season. And you know,
and in Burrows eleven and two against this the spread
in his career as an underdog of at least three points,
seven and five outright. The Bengals come into the Super

(13:34):
Bowl having covered seven straight games. That's tied for the
third longest streak entering the Super Bowl all time. And
the Bengals are the ninth team did in the Super
Bowl on at least a seven game cover streak the
previous eight another five and three ot right, four, two
and two against the spread. Cincinnati's past four games, well,
they have gone under the total their last four and uh. Again,

(13:57):
the Cincinnati has been a good cover machine. Teen uh.
This is a team that very much deserves to be there.
I would say that one of the reasons the Bengals
are here is because of the way they have played
the last seven weeks. And you it's it's the old argument, right,
do you know, is it the best team? Is it

(14:19):
the team playing the best? Is it the hottest team? Anyway,
it's slice it. The Bengals have been very impressive. Having
said that, could the Rams win Sunday? Absolutely? The Rams
are a terrific team. Everything is lined up for them.
They've got a stacked roster, their home, it's a home
game for them. And uh, look they didn't have to
go to Green Bay. Uh, right on down the line.

(14:42):
You've heard all the all the you know, the pabliment.
At this point, you just simply got to play the game. Now,
give the Rams a ton of credit. Uh. They went
all in. Staning Cronky went all in, Shawn mcveay went
all in. And they're right where they need to be
in the Super Bowl. Winning It might not be so easy,
but I will tell you, and I think if you

(15:02):
played this game ten times, the Rams would win six
of them. But the only play at once. And it's
gonna be interesting coming up later in the show, We're
gonna talk a lot about props, will have phasic on
uh in about forty five minutes, I'm gonna talk a
little bit about the origin of the Super Bowl. We
will continue throughout the evening to give you tidbits, facts, figures. Uh,

(15:26):
the Super Bowl is an amazing event. Frankly, the super
Bowl is a two week convention for the NFL. And oh,
by the way, there's a game, uh you know at
the end of it to culminate everything. And there's a
lot of anticipation for this game for multiple reasons, because
I can never remember this many storylines going into a
Super Bowl. I covered super Bowl forty in Detroit two

(15:48):
thousand six when Pittsford beat Seattle. I've attended three Super
Bowls as a fan. I'm more interested to see this
game because of the storylines. Uh. You know, lou Riley
tells me that at in l A Radio, they're talking
all week about well, if Stafford wins is in the
Hall of Fame, Well, if he wins, he's gonna get
Hall of Fame folks, and might will be he's throwing

(16:08):
for ten thousand less yards and Matt Ryan. But Matt
Ryan never won a Super Bowl. So look, let's just
enjoy this, see where it takes us, not get too
caught up in history. Onics. They got a bit of
a mountain to climb tomorrow. We'll all be watching. By
the way, according to estimates, about a hundred and sixty
one million people will be watching the game tomorrow at
least a portion of the game, and Americans will better

(16:29):
records seven point six billion with a B on this
year's contest. Now here's what's interesting about that. That's an
increase of more than three billion over last year, about
a seventy increased. Oh yeah, About thirty two million Americans
are expected to place at least one bet, either in
person or online. Again, a thirty five increase compared to

(16:54):
last year. You think legalized betting is caught on? He
think gets here to stay? Yeah, you know the answer
to that question. All right, coming up, we're gonna be
joined by Todd Dewey, the sports betting columnists of the
Las Vegas Review Journal, good friend of mine. We'll get
some more facts and figures, and we'll talk about the
pool here what or what I would call the the

(17:15):
the the the prognosticators opinion pool. About fourty of us

we predict the score on the outcome of the Super
Bowl every year, and I'll toit. I'll share with us
how that shook out and who was on what that?

We're back on straight at Vegas the pregame show you
always wanted. I Bernie Fredder come to you alive from
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio studios at this time.
Welcome and a gentleman, good friend of mine for the
past decade sports betting columnists for the Lost Vegas for
You Journal and Wicked Smart say hello to Todd Dewey. Todd,
how are you, buddy? Do well? How you doing? Bernie?

(20:36):
It is Super Bowl? It is Super Bowl sun here.
Other than that monthing you know, not not much happening,
I guess, But I want to start with the feature
you do every year. What you do it during March
Madness in the n c A Championship game. But the
Super Bowl pole, and I think, what about forty five guys,
forty five of us participate and we picked the winning
team in the score, we're gonna shake out how many

(20:58):
had Cincinnati, how many had the Rams, and how many
had you over in the under. Yeah, ended up getting
thirty eight people. So it always varies on the number.
But yeah, it's kind of a mixed bag straight up.
Yet the Rams fourteen against the spread, it's the Bengals seventeen,

(21:20):
and on the total it was under seventeen. So this, uh, yeah,
it comes as they think the Rams will win the game,
but the Bengals will cover and we'll go under. Yeah, no,
that's yeah. I bet I talked to Hey Goldberg and
he grabbed the four and a half, but he thinks
your Rams are gonna win. It's you know what's interesting,
Todd And in the history of fifty five Super Bowls,

(21:42):
if you just picked the winner, your forty seven, six
and two against the number of meetings, should the Rams win,
maybe they cover the four, but if the Bengals were
not right, it's mood. What has been your take? So
what has been your take so far on the handle?
It's been interesting. It's my understanding that some a ton
of RAM money is flooding in the last at twelve hours. Yeah,

(22:05):
once from four and a half the line down to
four with um some act a lot of action on
the Bengals in the past week. But today I talked
to some sports book directors in Vegas and they said
the RAMS money finally showed up today where the line
tick back up to four and a half at a
couple of places. Um the handle itself, they said that

(22:30):
the prop handle is really big, but they handle itself
on the game. I kind of mixed reactions from bookmakers.
A couple I think it's uh a lighter than in
years past. And one guy talked to thinks it's headed
for a record in Nevada. So we'll see what happens.
But but definitely Rams money is coming into balance out

(22:52):
what was a lot of Bengals actions. That's my understanding
that if you if you got into the head though,
the books are probably gonna need the Bengals. Is that fair? Yeah,
it's all said and done because most of the action
comes in tonight and and and all day tomorrow, so
things could could take a big turn by then. And

(23:13):
typically in the Super Bowl, the betting public will be
on the favorite on the spread and the underdog on
the money line. So Todd, you bring up a good
point in terms of the handle. I believe the record
handles around, is it but about a hundred and fifty
million here in Las Vegas? That sounds right? Yeah, I
believe it was a hundred fifty eight million on the

(23:34):
Patriots Eagles game few years ago. So I'm guessing you
just alluded to it a second ago. I'm guessing it's
not gonna It's not only going to exceed that, it's
gonna blow past that. Is that fair? I'm not sure. Actually, Like,
like I said a couple of people I talked to,
you don't think it is going to hit a record,
And I don't know if it's because of the matchup

(23:55):
or that, you know, they did have some duh you know,
the mask The governor just took the mask Man date
off the other day. Some of the bookmakers were hoping
that wishing that he had done that a couple of
weeks ago would have gave more people a chance to
get in to town for the Super Bowls. So they
still might not be quite as much action, uh as

(24:17):
it would have been in uh, you know, normal years.
So when you add the end game betting, knowle and
all the props, I gotta believe that, Well, we'll see
what happens. Well, we'll see, we'll go in a few
days after the game. Talk to the folks about some
of the most popular props. You're seeing that people are
firing on. Well on uh to win the Super Bowl

(24:38):
m v P is always a very popular prop and
Evan mcpheers kicker has never won it. But Evan McPherson,
you know, having an amazing playoffs twelve out of twelve
field goals for the Bengals, scoring forty of their seventy
two points. He got a lot of action and drove
his priced down from two one to eighty to one.
But Aaron Donald has got the the most tickets and

(25:01):
the biggest liability at the book says a huge sixteen
to one that he was down to twelve to one
in Aaron Donald the big liability. And then there's always
the popular ones where people like to bet on will
there be over time a safety which are both about
eight to one, will there be a two point conversion
that's about plus two fifty two seventy five and then

(25:24):
other popular props talking to guys today is McPherson over
one and a half field goals, Joe Burrow over eleven
and a half rushing yards in Super Cup over his
receiving yards. It's up to one hundred seven and a
half after it opened that one oh two and a half.
I'm told that an eight thousand dollar bet came in
on Aaron Donald at sixteen to one to win the

(25:46):
m VPS at the singular most liability the books have
on any one prop. Yeah, for m v P, Aaron
Donald is definitely the biggest liability. And yes, that was
a big better believes that Caesar's um. I believe that
that bet was so everyone likes to take a shot

(26:06):
at the long shot, and the defensive players on the
rams Aaronson and lots of von Miller, who was the
last defensive player to win it with the Broncos wrapping
it up with Todd Dewey, the sports bidding columns for

you can read Todd's columns every day. You're great right
here right online. Todd. A couple of other props before
let you run. I understand the most popular bet of
Caesar's is Odell Beckham to score the first touchdown. You're
getting seven to one? Is that true? He's definitely a
popular pick as well. Anything with Odell Beckham Jr. Anything

(26:50):
with Cooper cup Um top with the favorite to score
the first touchdown and uh yeah, the player to score
the first touchdown, uh Beckham cop The m v P
props with the Rams defenders coin toss is always the
popular Actually alright, yes, well people want action, all right?

(27:13):
Before I let you run real quickly, Todd, what's your
pick for the game, pal? I went with how the
polls shook out? Actually I went with Rams is a
tough call. I think the Rams in the first half,
but the BEng Goes will rally to cover, but the
Rams pull it out in the end. All right, buddy,
twenty four hours from from now, we'll know. And uh,

(27:36):
let's get you on to get it on March madness,

how did it all start? What was the origin? I'm
gonna give you the backstory coming up, but first let's
go to the man. He's author the best selling book.
If you don't like U C l A, you can
just shut the hell up. It's Brian failing with the latest. Yeah,
they did lose to USC in college basketball. Burn will
get to that, and Chris p certainly let me know

(28:18):
about it. But let's start a the NBA. Clay Thompson
sixteen of his thirty three points in a Warrior win
over the Lakers one seventeen to one fifteen. The Sun's
top of the Magic one two two, one oh five.
Phoenix has that best record in the NBA at forty
six and ten. Luca don Chits went on a scoring
tier for the Magic, twenty three of his forty five

(28:40):
points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough,
as the Clippers hang on against the MAVs to seven
to mar Der Rosen, who went to USC to play
college basketball and the NBA had thirty eight points for
the Bulls on Saturday night, you know, one oh six,
one oh one win over the thunder. Chicago is second
in the Eastern Conference and they are a game ahead

(29:02):
of the Calves, who dropped one against the seventy six
years one oh three to ninety three Duel Empad a
triple double headlined by forty points. Philly is fifth in
the East. And then there's the Heat and they overcome
the Nets one fifteen to one eleven. And Brooklyn continues
their free fall. They've lost eleven straight contests in college basketball. Yes,

(29:24):
Number twenty one USC gets a win against twelve rank
U c l A sixty seven to sixty four. Drew
Peterson had twenty seven points and the Trojan students they
rushed the court and then they remembered that it was
just a college basketball game. In February, Number two Gonzaga
all over twenty second rank St. Mary seventy four to

(29:44):
fifty eight. So the Zags have won a fourteen straight game.
Number four Arizona surviving a scare, they overcome a fourteen
point deficit to Washington as the Wildcats win convincingly ninety
two to sixty eight. Number seven Duke hangs on against
Boston College, a team with the record under five hundred
fifty excuse me, seventy two to sixty one. Palo Banchero

(30:07):
had a double double. Texas Tech star Terrence Shannon had
twenty points to guide ninth rank Texas Tech over TCU
eighty two to sixty nine, and finally burning in PG
twur action Save the Gala leaves the Phoenix Open going
into the Sunday final round fourteen under overall, he's got

(30:27):
a one shot lead after carding a sixty nine on Saturday.
Brooks Kepskup is one shot back, lurking at of course,
we've got this infamous Phoenix Open in conjunction with the
super Bowl on Sunday, so Bernie, as I send it
back to you, sports fans are gonna be indulging in
a lot of greatness, whatever sport it is, so it'll
be a lot of fun back to you, all right,

(30:50):
So we've got to settle a game coming up. It
will be broadcasting thirty four languages, and two hundred and
thirty two countries, hundred and sixty one million people be
watching you know what tomorrow or today later today America Elite,
eight million pounds of popcorn, twenty eight million pounds of
potato chips, fifty three million pounds of avocados. We're gonna

(31:12):
get to beer stats, all kinds. Just so, how did
all this happen? Well, interestingly enough, we're back to the
scene of the crime, because the very first Super Bowl
was played in Los Angeles at the Coliseum on January seven.
Wasn't even called the super Bowl, wouldn't be called that
for three or four years. It was called the NFL

(31:33):
NFL Championship Game, and the only concern was how bad
would Vince Lombardi's Packers kicked the whatever out of the
Kansas City Chiefs. So they didn't have Patrick Mahomes back then,
he had Lenny Dawson as fact. As a matter of fact,
interestingly enough, interestingly enough, as time my run a ton
from that place, Lombardi had called the AFL and Mickey

(31:55):
Mouse League. Of course, I guess it was fitting because
it was played just down the road from Disneyland. But
I digress. Tickets were only twelve dollars a piece in
and they had to give away a ton of them
just to beef up attendance. And even still there were
over thirty thousand empty seats. My god, they've come a
long way, as you know. The average costed was Super

(32:16):
Bowl ticket this year's six thousand, two fourteen dollars. Actually
that's not the average costs, that's the cheapest cost I think.
So Again, the game wasn't called the super Bowl. It
wouldn't be called the super Bowl until Super Bowl four.
They didn't even print super Bowl on game tickets until
Super Bowl four. All right, but let's go back through time.
Follow me. Nineteen sixty six, Uh, the a f L

(32:38):
and the NFL got into a bidding war for talent,
and it had been going on for about five years,
but it became very extreme when the a FL sued
the NFL and they ruled in favor of the Houston
Oilers because the Houston Oilers actually them. The Oilers and

(32:58):
the Rams had actually both tried to sign Billy Cannon,
who was the Heisman Trophy winner from L s U.
And the case recorded a legally binding decision and the
NFL prevailed well, the AFL, you know, buoyed by that,
they signed a New York chet signed Alabama quarterback to
a four thousand dollar contract in sixty That caused the

(33:21):
Atlanta Falcons to give six thousand dollars to a linebacker
from Texas named Tommy Nobus Green Bay Packers. They gave
over seven hundred thousand of running back named Donnie Anderson,
who these guys would all have. They have good, good careers.
But then the straw broke the camel's back when Buffalo
they tried to sign up. They were in the ANFL. Obviously,

(33:42):
they tried to sign a place kicker by the name
of Pete Gogolak after he'd already signed. I got that backwards.
The New York Giants tried to sign him after he'd
already signed with the Buffalo Bills. All right, so that
violated the no tampering code, and all of a sudden,
now it was full scale war. Now. The commissioner at
the time in April is sixty six was a guy
named Joe Foss. He'd done his best to act as

(34:03):
a peacemaker. It was too much for him. He basically resigned.
Who takes over as the commissioner of the AFL Al Davis,
who was still Jim in the Oakland Raiders at the time.
Davis swung right into action. He organized the war chest
and he urged owners to start collaborating with all of

(34:24):
the best talent, and he wanted to raid NFL. He
wanted to raid all the NFL stars. He wanted a
full scale effort to sign the best quarterbacks in the
a FL. And the Raiders actually signed Roman Gabriel and
the Houston owners got John Brody and within five days,
all of a sudden, eight NFL quarterbacks began negotiating with
the NFL teams to see what they would get because

(34:44):
they were breaking the bank, and all of a sudden,
and about two months the NFL relented. Less than two
months after Al Davis became commissioner, he got what he
really wanted. He wanted a merger deal between the a
f L and the NFL, and on the actual merger
wouldn't consummate until nine. There were many implementations well that

(35:05):
they took place right away. They established a common draft,
they started inter league play and that fall and three
years later regular season uh you know, contest combined in
the two leagues commenced it was no longer the FL
and the NFL. It was the f C in the NFC,
they're all part of the NFL. But here's what's interesting.
They knew that the AFL Championship or the FL NFL

(35:29):
Championship just calling at the a f L NFL Championship game.
He had a drab ring to it. And there's a
lot of conjecture as to how the actual names super
Bowl was born. Now. One popular story has to do
with the fact that there was an executive scratching his
head one weekend at home trying to come up with
a catchy name when he noticed his son bouncing a ball.

(35:50):
And there was a toy back in the day called
the super Ball, and it bounced way up high. It
was a famous toy, and some people think that story
is apocryphal. Common belief is that some sports reader that
was unnamed just coined the Moniker one day out of nowhere,
and it's just simply stuck. It was a super Bowl. However,
the bottom line is it really sort of had a
happy ending because Roman Gabriel never went to the Raiders

(36:13):
and John Brody never left the forty niners, and uh
and he even got big settlements to go back to
their own teams. And then two months later al Davis
resigned his commissioner the f L after the merger. But
the truth of the matter is the Super Bowl was
created due to the war that al Davis waged against
the bigger, older, stodgy or NFL NFL at the time,

(36:37):
and he got his way, and all of a sudden,
you've got all the stories, the office pools, the betting,
the food, the game itself, all of the things that
will cause the world to essentially grind to a halt
tomorrow while we'll eat one billion chicken wings. Yeah, one
billion chicken wings. In terms of all the beer that
will be consumed tomorrow, it would fill three Olympic sized

(37:01):
swimming pools. Actually thought it would be more than that.
Two thousand would be the number of miles of potato
chips that, if you laid end to end, would be
consumed during the game. And by the way, eleven and
a half or twelve feet in depth of guacamole consumed
if it were spread across an entire football field. All right,

(37:23):
and not for nothing, there will be a increase in
an acid sales on Monday after the game. Oh yeah,
by the way, it's it's estimated that seven million employees
will not show up to work on Monday, including school
kids in Cincinnati, as they gave Cincinnati schools the day
off on Monday. All right, but I digress coming up.

(37:47):
You know him, you love and you live. You can't
ley without him. It's that time macing on sports now.
If you want to hear Mackenzie's football best bet props,
that's gonna come up in a couple of hours. But
in the meantime, hey, there are other sports to bet on.
There was a little trade in the NBA this week.
How might that affect futures bets in the NBA title
we will discuss. I'm Bernie Fratto, where Comedy Live from

(40:00):
Bernie Frat will come to you alive from the Las

want to thank my broadcast team back in Los Angeles
and they will be with me to three am Pacific,
six am Eastern. Uh. That would be both Benson, Chris
Perfett and Brian Finley on the updates. Lots to get to,

(40:20):
but first you know him. You love McKenley. Without him,
Let's bring it back out to Las Vegas and yesternight's
all about the Super Bowl. But there was a little
trade in the NBA the other day and Mackenzie, I've
never felt so vindicated. I said this. Stu bumb Brooklyn
Nets team would never win a championship and I'm sticking
to that. That said, that said, I gotta believe the

(40:41):
odds have moved on for sure, the Nets and the Sixers,
the two teams involved. Yes, biggest movement of NBA trade deadline.
Definitely the headline of the Nets and the Sixers. Interesting
that you're kind of taking your victory lap on the
Nets not winning a championship this year because they remain
the title favorites. However, that's liability, man. That that's that's

(41:04):
smart in the bank ability. And you're smart enough you
know that. And I mean even if you look at
the odds, it's kind of thing plus four hundreds, So
just just an oddity really, not anything that would that
would disprove your your overall point. Speaking of a startling statistic.
Before I even get to these these odds, I just
heard you say in the last segment, one billion chicken

(41:26):
wings across America eating on Super Bowl Sunday. What what
are we doing? That's only three a piece, Bernie, Come on,
come on, guys, this is Super Bowl Sunday. We can
You've got to leave room for the potating chips and
the penis and the beer and the pizza and all
the other stuff. Too. Yeah, you get three slices of pizza.
Five Okay, if i'd say five a piece is we

(41:47):
can do that, all right. So the Sixers are the
big winners of NBA trade deadline. Their payout is cut
in half from fourteen to one now almost six one,
seven to one in some spots to the fourth favorite
dare Morey take your victory lap. I mean, saying that
Ben Simmons could be on the shelf for four years
was a pretty gutsy thing to say. Definitely rubbed some

(42:09):
people the wrong way in Philadelphia, but he stuck to
his guns. A lot of people were saying they could
get c. J. McCollum or Harrison Barnes. Maybe he's not
the player he once was. His player efficiency rating has
gone down tick tick tick from m v P level
James Harden to I don't know, top fifteen in the
league right now, but either way, a lot better than
what was on the table in October big trade and

(42:32):
the odds reflected. I'm not sure if the Sixers, though,
wouldn't rather replace places with the Sons who kept their
whole intact team together or the Warriors who kept their
team intact together, both teams that have better odds at
plus five hundred the Sons and the Warriors than the Sixers,
who kind of kind of kind of thrown this thing together.

(42:52):
Speaking of throwing this thing together, the Nets we mentioned.
Their odds have dipped from two and a half to
one when this line opened up to now plus four fifty.
The Lakers. The Lakers were second favorite. Another team where
they say, Hey, a d is really good, Lebron is
really good, this is gonna work. Let's throw it together.
Russell Westbrooke, he won an m v P. Let's throw
them on the team. They were second favorite entering the

(43:13):
season at four to one. They were absent on trade deadline.
Their odds dipped from twenty to one before the deadline
to now to one. It's it's the story of the
season and tonight. Maybe it's emblematic. Lebron passes Kareem all
time on some made up statistic that we're counting now

(43:33):
in playoff points plus regular season points times lipping points
or or something. But there's some people saying, hey, Lebron
is really good. True, it's just another year comes and
goes where Lebron's really good on a team that's malfunctioning.
And inconsistent, and at some point the best player in
the world should I think lead a team to being

(43:56):
better than five games under five hundred in a not
great NBA right now, there's no great teams in the NBA,
no reason. Lakers. Well, we could do a whole hour
on that, but let's stick with a couple of odds
championship odds teams here. Uh and I got him, McKenzie.
Gotta take my victory lap on the Nets. We can
revisit that later in June. It didn't work. They blew

(44:17):
it up. You're right, Bernie, Well it was you know,
I I always believe you've got to be a top
ten defensive team to win, unless you're the Shack and
Kobe Lakers. They're the only team to do that in
twenty five years. The Nets row never better than the
Big Three. They played a total of thirty two minutes
to year. McKenzie and people said, well, they're hurt. Well,
that's part of it being healthy. And the other thing
is even the three and on the floor. I was

(44:38):
never sure they had to depth. Be that as it may,
I can't see either team getting by either the Bucks
or the Bulls. Your thoughts, I think the Bucks are
a great uh contender in the East. They're probably the
favorite over the Nets as currently constructed. But if you
said there's one thing wrong with the Nets, you nailed it. Defense.
They got a defensive player of the year can if

(45:00):
he gets his mind right in Ben Simmons and a
guy who got paid twenty five million dollars to play
basketball last year, and Andre Drummonds. He might not be
what the NBA really wants right now, but they improved
on defensive. That's what they need. They got it. Okay,
good stuff. McKenzie will continue to follow that as we
only have one football game left, and you'll be back
in an hour with some Super Bowl props. You'll be

(45:21):
back in two hours with more Super Bowl props, so people,
you don't want to miss that. We're just getting started tonight.
We're gonna take up to three and Pacific six am
Eastern coming up right at the top of the hour,
