Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to Fox Sports. Ah, yes, what's going on?
I hope you're enjoying your Saturday evening. We are knee
deep into March madness over here. I hope you have
a more pleasant attitude. San Diego State didn't get smacked
around this week, big man, so maybe you're more cheerful
about March madness today. Huh, what's your college again? Well,
(00:23):
I'm fair Weather whenever whenever someone whenever someone starts the
answer the question with will you know, it doesn't validate
anything they say after that, So never mind? Yeah, die
Hard Notre Dame football. You know that about me. They
could be three and six or like three and eight,
(00:44):
three and nine like they were in oh seven. And
I'm watching every single snap die Hard, Notre Dame hoops,
fair Weather. I'm a bandwagon guy. They're doing great, go irish.
If they're not, who cares? So who's your basketball team?
Your college basketball? I really don't have one. It's Notre
Dame bandwagon, that's really it. And you're supposed to be
the sports guy. Huh, you could still be a sports
(01:09):
guy without without teams. I don't know, man, for every
sport you have that one for the team for every sport. Okay,
So you've got San Diego State football, San Diego State basketball,
San Diego State lacrosse, everything college DSU, San Diego State baseball, everything,
(01:30):
college everything is you fight fight fight, fight fight, No,
just that I thought it was fight fight fight, S
d s U, S techs fight. Come on. Oh okay,
insult me. I'm I'm up one game now. Okay, So football,
(01:51):
where are we going? In the NFL? Played for a
number of teams. I played for a number of teams.
I love the Denver Broncos, enjoying my time there. I
love to see you hate the Raiders. We know don't
like the Raiders because of my time there. Shout out
to our terrific producer who just lives and dies in
Raider gear. I don't know if he owns anything else.
I'll tell you what. If I were a Raider fan,
(02:12):
I wouldn't wear anything else. Those are the coolest colors
in a good colors. Yeah, they are good colors, silver
and black. Right, thirty one teams in the NFL, and
then yeah that Raid right, I can hear the autumn
wind underneath you're saying that, Yes, n b A, we
(02:33):
know what that is couple and Gold shout out nine
seed or whatever they are right now. You know, whatever
it is, I'm riding, they're dying. Once the Dale three
was running point, I was still rocking Elvin little Campbell,
Little feet Campbell, I was. I was right there and
he was like, what six eleven or so war size
(02:54):
nine shoe Like, I'm like, come on, um, by the way,
We're brought to you by one of our favorite cities,
Las Vegas, the greatest arena on Earth. Planning your trip
today at visit Las Vegas dot com. It's Brian no
Andy from Salam with you here on Fox Sports Radio.
Danny g Are, Trusted producer. He said something to me
(03:14):
that was it was really funny right before the show started.
So he puts it on Twitter. What we're leading off with?
What we're talking about, Like, hey, Brianoi from Salam Fox
Sports Radio, they're talking about this check it out And
he's like, what are you leading off with? And I said,
March madness. You know this Villanova Houston game, it's twenty
seven to twenty at halftime, and my question is do
(03:37):
you embrace the madness in all facets? Meaning when it's
a grinder and both teams are having a hard time
putting the ball in the hoop. Are you still okay
yea yeah? Or or are you like it's just it's
a much lesser um quality of basketball. And he said
(03:57):
this big man real fast, was like, we're talking about
that in the studio. And it's a lot like those
amusement parks you ever go, try to win like a
gigantic Teddy Bear or whatever. And if you are off
by a millimeter, that ball shooting off into the distance
at light speed. You know, He's like, that's what it
looks like in college shops. And he's right, are you
(04:19):
okay with that? Do you embrace the madness when it's
bad madness? I do because every really then every shot
really counts. Right, we're so far into the tournament, not
even in the you know, last end, even all of
these games. The play in games, every shot matters, make
(04:40):
or miss. And I love that level of do or dying.
This throughout the whole game, you see a team going
to run, it's like, oh my god, it's over. Then
the other team comes back. I mean, it's back and forth,
and even when they're not making shots, it's still a
grind and because everything is on the line so much
at stake, and I love that. I love watching UH
(05:04):
sports when it's that important. Yeah, hey, I hear you.
And there is something to be said about the pressure
of these games. We're at the Elite eight. These are
final four bids on the line here, and so a
lot of that goes into Houston being over eight from
three point range in the first half, right, Like you're gripping.
(05:27):
This is one of the things that Villanova used to
run into way back when when they were heavy guard oriented, right,
and they're relying on three point shooting, and when you
start gripping and tensing up, and a lot of times
Villanova got bounced early on in the early Jay Right days.
But I hear you that pressure and how you can
(05:48):
overcome it or if you rise to it. Think about
Caleb Love last night with North Carolina. He was on fire,
twenty seven of his thirty points in the second half,
huge shots down the stretch man. So, yeah, you might
have some bad shooting mixed in between with the pressure,
and you might have guys rising to the occasion. You
gotta take the good with the bad, right, March Madness,
(06:10):
We're looking for the while he's erbiak. We're looking for
the gimmer for dead. We're looking for the guy to
put his team on his back, no matter how talented
your team is. We saw that last night. Would love
those shots he were making. Ah, those are don't shoot
that right. He shot at three, it missed. Terrific effort
(06:33):
by the big man to save it, and he tried
to step back three like no, dude, yes, Like when
you see guys put the pressure on themselves, like I'm
putting it on my back. I love that sport is Oh,
that was amazing. It was sixty four just over a
(06:56):
minute's way and he it was like he was fading too.
It's right, unreal man, that's a tough shot. It literally
was like it literally was like the rim was an
ocean and he was out there with a tennis ball
trying to make it into the ocean. Yeah, that was fun.
(07:17):
And how about the St. Peter's Peacocks. We can't talk
about March Madness without the peacocks, man. It was National
Peacock Day yesterday. How about that. You can't even make
that up. Make it up, man. And they beat per
Due first after fifteen seed to make it to the
Elite eight. Shout out to them. You want to talk
(07:42):
about good basketball, and we're not talking about old it's
just hyping it. This is good basketball right through and through.
They are playing their butts off. And the coach said
it himself, what are they gonna say? Now? His whole
(08:04):
thing is Shaheen Holloway. Number one was McDonald's All American.
He played in the McDonald's American Game. He was the
MVP of the McDonald's All American again with Kobe Bryant
in it. He's played at a high level. These kids
know that and recognize that. He can relate completely to
(08:30):
these young men. And so when he's out there coaching,
they're listening. And what he said was, it's just basketball.
They get they get a possession, We get a possession.
My guys can play basketball. I don't care what seed
we are or what the ranking that that doesn't mean
(08:52):
anything because it's just basketball and we can do that. Yeah,
And you know what, I love that said that because
it randomly took me to the NFL. I just had
this thought popping into my head where Russell Wilson when
he was there with the Seahawks. This is when they
won their first NFC championship game with him there and
(09:15):
they were going to the Super Bowl, and Russell Wilson
asked Terry Bradshaw, who was on the stage right there,
being presented with the trophy and all that stuff. He's like, uh,
what do we need to do? What do we need
to do to win it? And Terry Bradshaw said, you
play the game down. If you build it up to
this big thing like this is the super Bowl, we
gotta be perfect. He's like, you're gonna screw it up
(09:36):
and you won't play well. He's like, you gotta play
the game down. And what you explained right there, I
think it goes a long way. I think that message
can be like freeing to a player instead of you
can remember this for the rest of your freaking lives.
Over here's like, let's just play basketball. Yeah, right, when
when you take the pomp and circumstance away from it.
(09:59):
Now it's important, it's important basketball, but the team across
from you has the same opportunities to take and make
shots and rebound and hustle as you do. I don't
believe that they're better athletes than you. They go to
a bigger school, but that has nothing to do what
(10:19):
our effort and our abilities on the court, and time
and time again they stopped that. They keep showing it,
and they don't like to refer to themselves as a
Cinderella story because he was like, we played basketball, man,
this is it. This isn't a surprise to us. And
I love that. I love the energy from that team.
Yeah yeah, and look man, it's uh keeping things simple.
(10:43):
I think that matters. I think that you can get
off track real fast in the tournament. And we always
try to figure out these reasons as to why a
team won, why they lost. Sometimes we're on point, sometimes
we're not. But if we're looking at the Purdue St.
Peter's game, you can't tell me a couple of those
Perdue players didn't. We got a fifteen seed. We should
be good, right of course, Elite eight, you get trapped
(11:06):
in the moment, Like each time the Peacocks win, the
team that they're going to play in the next round
gets excited because, oh yeah, good, all right, we don't
have to deal with Perdue. What I deal with seven? Five? Dude? Right?
Are the six eleven beast Williams in the middle. We
don't have to deal with them? Okay, right, okay, And
(11:30):
and that's what the that's the message they're saying. You
keep cheering, our opponents keep cheering every time we make
it to the next round. Oh, they must not know.
And I think that's the flip side of it. I
don't think St. Peter's is gonna fall victim to hey man,
we're playing an eight seed. We we could be playing Baylor,
(11:53):
we could be facing a one seed. We could be
facing a tougher team seeding wise than this draw with
umber eight North Caroline up. I doubt a team from
the MAC like the M A A C is gonna
be thinking like that. You know, it's it goes back
to what you originally said. The head coaches messages, guys,
we know how to play basketball. Let's just play basketball.
(12:14):
It doesn't need to be any more complicated than that.
And you can get away from those dangerous thoughts of
we've got a golden opportunity. It's only eight seeded North Carolina, right,
like we're good, we might be in the final four. No,
it's just focus on basketball. That's all you gotta do.
And if that happens, the magic happens. Yeah. Right, this
is this is this is what you want then, was
(12:36):
one number one seed left right, everybody? Every one left?
Oh yeah, yeah, it's one left rock chalk. That's it,
you know what I mean? And so everybody can be beat,
all the blue bloods and all of that. Everybody. We
don't even know what St. Peter's is. What we don't
even know what it is? What a crazy tournament this is.
(12:57):
You look at the seeds, you add them all up
in the Elite eight. That's the highest ever in the
Elite eight sets the right the tournament expanded in seventy nine.
It's like you get a fifteen and eight a ten,
and it's like, oh gosh, that's all that's gonna be
a higher number than normal. You gotta love it, man.
(13:18):
It makes for compelling basketball. But what it also shows
us is, right the the year and the terms of
mid major that's gone. Those are gone. Like Gonzaga has
shattered that number one team in the country, number one
overall seed, right that that that whole myth about being
a mid major, all of that's gone because these kids
(13:41):
are playing basketball at a high level and no matter
what conference are are are are where the geographically they play. Yeah,
if you can put five guys on the court that
can play hard, play together and believe in each other.
It doesn't matter what school you went to. And that's
what the tournament is about. It is. Hey, the Dollar

Coming up next, I've got a theory about those zags,
(14:24):
big man, and every now and then, you are an
enemy of logic. You know, my logic is sound over.
I don't know if you're gonna buy this or not.
I'm curious. We'll do that right around the corner. I'm Brian, Now,

(15:52):
for our bracket challenge provided by Indeed and Good News,
big Man, I'm sure you are thrilled about this. I
am still alive in this bracket challenge, at least with
the Fox Sports Radio on air hosts because I took
Kansas that that's the only thing keeping me alive at
this point, if Kansas wins at all, I think I'm
the only one who had ku and uh, the rest
(16:15):
of my bracket is just trash. But the good news
is most everybody else's bracket is the same way. So
it's down to whoever wins this thing. If it's Kansas,
I might get bragging rights. That was a good thing.
When you can get bragging, it's always a good thing,
togging rights, right, Hey man, I get it. So we're
(16:35):
gonna get to this eventually, Tyreek Hill with the hawkwind Orange,
let's go. We'll get into that. But I've got a
theory to throw at you, Big Matt. Now. I we've
been doing a show together for years, and so there
are times where I'll have a pretty good gauge. Big
Man is gonna be in with me on this one.
Big Man is gonna be the opposite of me on
(16:57):
this one. I think this could go either way, honestly.
So my thought is if you look at Gonzaga, they
play in a terrible conference, The West Coast Conference is
not a good conference, and they wreck that conference year
in and year out, and they get a great seed
(17:17):
in the tournament. They were the number one overall seed
in this year's tournament and then they crashed and burned,
lost to Arkansas, didn't even make it to the Elite eight.
And it made me think of the New England Patriots,
and the way I tie those two together is that
if you look at Gonzaga, yes they had an easier path,
Yes that helps them get a high seed. No, it
(17:39):
doesn't guarantee postseason success. And that's where I think back
to the Tom Brady Arrow with the Patriots and how
many times did we hear that, Oh, the a f
C East, it's so easy, it gives them an unfair
advantage in YadA, YadA, YadA. And while they did benefit
from that advantage, it didn't guarantee them post season six
(18:00):
sass and that's why I think they were short changed
on credit. And with Gonzaga crashing and burning every time repeatedly,
they made it to the championship game last year, didn't
win it. That's as far as they've gotten. They haven't
won one championship with that huge advantage of a week
conference and getting a higher seed. So it just shows
(18:20):
that even though you might have a regular season advantage,
it doesn't guarantee anything in terms of postseason success. And Therefore,
I think the Patriots were largely short short changed by
the haters saying, oh the a f C East, what
do you think about? There would be no Cinderella stories
or upsets if everything was predicated on how you entered
(18:42):
the tournament. Sure, that's the thing, right, you can be
a dominant team. The ZA is the dominant team. Not
only do they beat up on the conference, they beat
up on everybody, all right, but once you get into
the tournament, it's different energy there. And they've had success
in the tournament. They haven't won at all, but they
you know, they've been knocking on the door. So what
(19:04):
I'm saying is the teams that get the five new
five star recruits, the five new one and dunes. Look
at Kentucky right, Look at they they live on one
and duns and blue chip. Don't even call them blue chip.
(19:25):
You know, five star athletes. They that's all they do
is to turn over. There is unbelieve Duke all all
of these places. Gonzaga is starting to get them now.
But that doesn't matter because you look at these schools
were there. You know the term is mit major where
these guys have been playing together for four years. That
(19:50):
that's much better than three guys have been playing together
for three months, and that's where it's that's where you
get exposed the tournament. Yeah, look, I think that some
people get screwed up when it's two different sports and
they just start looking at the differences. Obviously there are
many differences between college basketball in the NFL, granted, but
(20:13):
it depends on what you're comparing. Don't look at just
the differences. Look at the similarities. If you want to
keep it just with football, look at the Packers. They
played in a week division last year. Every other team
had a losing record than them. In the NFC North.
They were a one seed and what happened. They were
one and done. It didn't guarantee anything in terms of
(20:34):
postseason success. They were a one seed the last two
years and didn't make the Super Bowl in either year.
So that's where I bring it back to the Patriots.
I think they were short changed by many, many people
that took credit away from their accomplishments and said, oh,
it's the a f C East, that's why I never
bought that, and in a random way, Gonzaga is proof
(20:58):
of that. Or you could have there's a right regular
season you can have this regular season advantage with your conference,
and it doesn't mean jack come playoff time, No, because
you gotta answer the bill. You gotta answer the bill,
and you have to approach it like we don't care
who it is. I would just erase the seeds off
everybody because we're gonna treat every opponent the same way. Right,
(21:20):
We're gonna make them guard us, We're gonna make them
stop us. We're gonna go over our defensive rotations, We're
gonna do all of those things. But we're gonna spend
a lot of we're gonna spend more time on what
we're doing because they gotta guard us. If they're late
getting out there, shoot the three, if they go underneath
(21:43):
the screen, shoot it right. And we said we're seeing
these teams seems like St. Peter's. They're not timid, they're
not afraid, they're not afraid. I had a flashback to
Dave Chappelle saying, shot shoot it, shoot it. I love.
You know, there's one thing I love in the n
(22:03):
b A and also college. You see it more in
the NBA, the teams that get mad at the guy
that passes up and open shot because it misses everything.
It totally does. It's better to shoot and miss, yeah,
then to not shoot. That's right, right, that's more times
(22:25):
than not. That's the best shot you're gonna get during
that possession. Do you know what else is the best
shot you're gonna get. I've got an idea. If you
tune into this show in thirty minutes after the hour,
for three hours, you'll get what I like to equate
(22:47):
to a logo three all net, no rim, no movement, right,
sharp shooter. That's our guy, Stephen s s. Why, thank you, gentlemen.
We do have March Madness continuing this weekend. We'll find
(23:11):
out the final four by the end of the weekend.
South Region Final going on in San Antonio right now,
and Houston has actually made a three pointers, so there
one for ten now from three point range, and yes,
trailing Villanova thirty seven with about fourteen and a half
minutes to go in the second half of play, Houston
with a great defense and again today Villanova being held
(23:32):
to thirty one percent shooting and yet leading the game.
Second contest in San Francisco at five fifty Pacific so
eight fifty Eastern time with Duke in the West Region
Final against Arkansas. Some good news for the Lakers, as
the New Orleans Pelicans have just lost. That's the first
of the eight games on the NBA Saturday schedule. Pelicans
lost at home to San Antonio one oh seven, one
(23:54):
oh three despite c J. McCollums thirty two points. If
you look at the heading into the play and if
you look at the Western Conference standings, the Lakers are
thirty one and forty two. New Orleans now thirty one
and forty three, half game back of them for the
ninth place slot. The way the play in works, that's
Eastern Week Essentially, it's Tuesday, April twelve through that Friday
(24:16):
in mid April Wednesday April again, so I can start gambling.
By the way, I don't think the whole length thing
it counts if you keep telling people what you're for Land,
I don't think it works. Just for the record, I mean,
I'm not the authority, but I don't think it works
that way. It's a show. It's for entertainment value purposes. Steve. Yeah,
as as the losing for gambling is often on this show,
(24:39):
So yeah, head back to it. Bring the entertainment back
to the show. You get seven verses eight in each
conference for the play in and the seventh and eighth
place teams. They get two chances to win one game
and get into the postseason because it's the loser of
seven verses eight then hosts the winner of the nine
verses ten. So it could be for example, if the
Clippers lose seven verse is eight, then it's maybe Clippers
(25:01):
versus Lakers to see who gets the eight and final playoffs.
But in the West, once we get to mid April,
but for now, Lakers are a ninth Pelicans now a
half game back in ten. Kansas City Chiefs will give
a one year deal to running back Ronald Jones X
of Tampa Bay the Jet sign kicker Greg Zerline X
of Dallas. And it is Oscars Weekend in Hollywood tomorrow night,
(25:23):
and that means just before the Oscars. Every year, we
find out the winners of the Razzie Awards for the
Worst in Film from the previous year. Two notables. Netflix
film version of the Princess Diana Broadway Musical has won
the most Razzi Awards five trophies, and congratulations to the
New Space Jam nominated four categories, it won three Razzie
(25:48):
Awards Worst Actor of the Year Lebron James. Gentlemen, Wait
wait is that what the Lakers? Or is that what
I'm just kidding? He's been played great Lakers. Also, Space
Jam a new Legacy one for according to Hollywood Reporter,
at one for Worst Screen Couple and Worst Remake, rip
(26:11):
Off or Sequel. It was also up for Worst Picture,
but apparently did not win that sadly, what did? Yeah?
I assume this Diana thing did since it won five total.
By the way. On the positive side, for Tomorrow Night,
Denzel Washington, who's in Macbeth. This is his tenth tenth
career OSCAR nomination, seven for Best Actor. Apparently the odds
(26:34):
on favorite for Best Actor Tomorrow Night is Will Smiths,
who plays Richard Williams, Serena and Venus's father in King Richard.
Have either of you seen? You know what I'm talking
about with this movie? Did you think going in as
I did you know? Serena and Venus are executive producers
on this movie. This is not maybe gonna be an
objective look at their upbringing. And so then I did
(26:56):
see it and it is enjoyable. I I really I
enjoyed seeing it I'm glad I saw it. But at
the same time, when you see the youth tennis tournaments,
Venus and Serena as girls are the most well behaved.
Nothing ever goes wrong. Every parent of every opponent is
a complete jerk. You know, every opponent is throwing a
(27:16):
racket or screaming. It's just that part is a little simplified.
Otherwise I thought it was a fine congratulations to will Smith. Well,
let's just say Serena hasn't backed that up in her
adult life. I think, well, no, once you become number one,
you can do whatever you want. Yeah, and she's she's
followed that. Yeah, one of the great divas in women's
sports in the past decade. And you gotta remember when
(27:38):
they were doing those tournaments early on, they were kids
and and they were well behaved because, you know, you
that's what they had to be. Right. Whenever you're whenever
you're breaking ground on something, are you trying to do
something no one had ever done? Are you feel like
that's what you're doing, then all your energy g is
(28:00):
in that. And once you do it, then you can
be like, you know, you can be like you don't
quite follow I'll tell you this as a seventh round
draft pick. My first four years in the league, I
was like, look, I just wanted to keep making the team.
Not established that, right, I just want to keep making
a team in it. The more you start by year eight,
(28:21):
don't even talk to me, coach, Like you can't even right,
Like if I'm this is this is God's under truth.
If I mess up in the game, I played enough
football to know why I messed up. Don't need you
to tell me I messed up. Like you start to
get that now they were a thousand times better than
in tennis than I ever was in football. So once
(28:42):
you begin to be dominant, and like Tiger Woods, right like,
once you become that dominant, you can do whatever you
want to. It's like, hey, hey, look here, well you can.
I guess what I'm saying is should you? Because John McEnroe,
for example, he used to complain this lineman used to
be a linesman in one of my youth to tournament.
(29:04):
Can't the linesman get better? Everybody progresses in there in
there whatever avenue between him, I thought this one ripped
the net off. Yeah, against each other, Yeah, any stuff
Steve to say. I don't want to I don't want
to overdo it. It was a good movie. I Uh,
I saw Will Smith in person in a random uh venue.
(29:26):
I guess you would say so. Uh. Jada pink Att
Smith his wife at the time. I think they've broken up.
Do you know, big man, You probably more on top
of this than I am. But they are still married.
Great love conquers all. I was at some type of festival.
It was like a metal ish festival. Yea had she
(29:48):
has a metal band. She was singing. She was like
punk slash metal stuff like just go. I'm like, hell yeah, Jada,
I had no idea. And Will Smith was on stage
just to the side, supporting his wife. It was awesome.
She has a metal band. That is correct. Man, Dude.
They were going after it too. They weren't just up
(30:08):
there to be up there. They were They meant business
that day. Very good stuff. Hey. The Dollar Shave Club
six Blade razor brings noticeably smooth shaves with six stainless
steel blades for swift hair removal and a lubricating strip
that keeps things smooth. Dollar Shave Club raisors are sold
(30:29):
at Dollar Shave Club dot Com or in stores. Okay,
big man, we got a lot to do here. We
have got a lot. I'm gonna give you a hint.
Let's go the great feelings right now? Are they changing soon?
What do the crystal balls say? We will get to
(30:51):
that right around the corner. I'm Brian No Easy from
Salam This is Fox Sports Radio, Brian No. You see
from Salam here on Fox Sports Radio. Houston making a
bit of a push here. They trail Villanova forty to
thirty four, were under eight minutes to go in the game.
(31:12):
Houston just had a charge where they were trying to
cut into the lead a little bit more, but only
down by six with less than eight minutes to go.
Villanova still leads, and uh, we're embracing the madness here.
Not the prettiest of games, big man, But if it
gets tight down the stretch might get a little bit
of drama. Yeah. I like that. You want these games too.
(31:33):
And the most of the majority of the games have
come down to the last few possessions. That's how that's
the parody in in college basketball right now. Yeah, which
is great. I love it. Yeah, I love the st
Peter's Perdue game last night was fun. There was a
last second shot that almost tied it. Yeah, nice, nice
(31:54):
comeback by Perdue at least get that close. And then
the the u c l A. North Carolina game was
just fantastic. The big shot making by Caleb Love that
was legit. Okay, also speaking a legit big man. Huh, yes,
that's right. Tyreek Hill, formerly of the Chiefs, he gets
(32:16):
traded to the My Ammy Dolphins to team up with
two a Tongua Violoa. He goes from Mahomes to Tua.
Now Tyreek Hill he mentioned this, Yeah, I don't here
(32:37):
the price is right sound effect with wow. Yeah. This
was Tyreek Hill in his press conference, and it's all great,
it's all smiles right now, here's a portion of it.
It's tough, man. But if somebody comes to you with
a lot of money, it changes, it changes, then start
(33:00):
to change a little bit. Okay, I get that. The
question is could the feelings be changing back to where
they originally were once you get into the season and
to isn't getting him the ball quite like Mahomes used to? No, no, no,
you know why. You know why, because he'll get in
(33:25):
his race or whatever. Rose Royce, he'll go across the
bridge to start island. Beautiful landscape, right, next to shock
or Oprah Lebron and he'll go out in the pool
and he'll sit and be like, man, I only have
four catches for eighty nine yards. Today, somebody will bring
(33:49):
him a cocktail or beverage. Right, Maybe we'll go in
and and play some Xbox, maybe a little halo on
a wall sized screen. Maybe look at a super Bowl
ring on display. Yea, he might just take a helicopter
ride around the city. Yeah, that's why that softens the blow.
(34:13):
Definitely the blow. The seventy two million guarantee softens the
blow that changes everything for everyone in his family, changes everything.
But I still go back to it's not like the
chiefs were offering minimum wage. It wasn't, but they weren't
offering that. They weren't offering that, but it was. Yeah,
(34:38):
but a lot of that's funny money. You know that.
It's all it's funny money. But the seventy seventy one
how much at signing? Like when you signed the paper?
What was it? Uh? At signing? Like, yes, it was
a lot. You have to hand me a check for
forty eight million dollars in I put my name on
(35:01):
this paper. Man, you have to hand that to me like,
I'm going to sign this and push it to you.
You push that to me. Yes, And I look at
my bank account on my phone and it's a lot different.
Now that's different. That's a that's the difference, right, that's
the difference. Yeah, they are. They were offering the money
in Kansas City. They weren't all from that because they can't.
(35:23):
They can't afford that. And that's what we're seeing. We're
seeing guys take the money. Aaron Rodgers took the money, right,
Deshaun Watson took The Browns were out of it. They
were going to the third day. He was like, the
Browns are out of it. I have to narrow that.
It's only two teams. Friday morning he signed with the Browns. Right,
(35:47):
somebody walks up to you and say, hey, we'll give
you five years, two thirty million dollars fully guaranteed. You say, okay,
that's it. I think you can make an argument with
the Sean that you can't quite make with the Dolphins,
where I expect the Browns with their roster that quarterback
(36:07):
to be a better contender than the Obviously, Tarik feels
confident in the things that he's accomplished so far, which
it would have been amazing. It's been one of the
top receivers in the league for three years, three or
four years, the fastest guy in the league. He feels
okay with those accomplishments. Now it's tithing to go get
paid football. I tell that I'm all for guys getting
(36:30):
the money because it's hard and it ends fast. It
ends fact, this would be the biggest contract he'll ever get.
It will never be that much money on the table
for him ever. Again, why wouldn't you take it? This
is not he's not a quarterback. Quarterbacks reup. They just
keep getting more and more money. Right, Aaron Rodgers is
(36:52):
in year what sixteen seventeen. He just got the most
money he's ever gotten. That's the only position that does that.
They can re up three times any other position. Especially
why they weren't even paying wide receivers, thank you, Davante Adams.
They weren't paying ride receivers like that. No, it's a listen,
(37:14):
it's a compelling case. You've made some good points. You
just know as well as I do. Although all those
things soften the blow of downgrading from homes to two US,
it's it's amazing how soft. That blow is when you're
laying on a bunch of money. True, but week seven
comes around and it doesn't matter. I'm telling you, it
(37:37):
comes around. I was open, didn't get the week nine
comes right, it's gonna happen. That's gonna happen. It will happen.
And I just know he's gonna be in a different
place then than he is. Right. Yeah, but look, they're
gonna replace the quarterback probably next year. They're gonna get
aggressive and try to get a real quarterback. And you know,
who knows, maybe he becomes h a safety blanket for
(38:02):
for Toad, just just very slightly work that in a quarterback.
You don't, you don't believe he's the answer. You know that,
no matter how much you want to. You know, Look,
I'll say this, he's the anti Sam Donald right now.
If you look at Donald with the Jets, he didn't
(38:24):
have a whole lot around him. There is more than
enough around to uh where if he doesn't get it done,
you can't say anything. But and this is why they
did what they did. He has two top tier receivers
in Waddle in his second year, and now the Cheetah
get sicky. That's Armstead better offensive line. It's this is it.
(38:46):
We're going to know right now. If this young man
can play quarterback, you can start at quarterback in this league.
It's go time. I hate to even say this. I
don't even want to put it in the atmosphere, but
I have to. Where would the Dolphins be if they
drafted justin Herbert? They'd be legit super right there. It
(39:11):
was right there, and I was pleading with the football gods,
please don't take Herbert. He was nothing to write home
about it Oregon, and he is a freaking stud in
the NFL. You chose your guy, I chose mine. Gosh,
you've got to be surprised that he's this good, right
you have to. He was not this first game when
(39:35):
he came off that when he didn't know he was
starting against the Chiefs, I said, oh, he got it.
Take it before the draft, before the draft happens, like
the Dolphins are on the board, number five, Like I
have my doubts with two anyway, like everybody else, man,
we got a lot to do, lots of layers coming
(39:55):
up next. There are four solid candidates. But which on
is your pick? Ah? Yes, what's going on? Hope, You're
enjoying your Saturday evening. We got action, big man, as
you like to say, a four point game with just
over three minutes to go, Villanova leads Houston. We're late.
(40:19):
We're late in this one. It's only forty four to forty.
But hey, we got drama. Got a close one down
the stretch here, Hey man, the madness is real. The
madness is upon us right here, staring. No matter how
low the scory is, as long as both teams are
within striking distance, that's the compelling part. Yeah, we're all
(40:42):
about high drama, not necessarily high scores. Right with low
scores right and putred shooting. You know, Look, you can't
stay hot an entire tournament. It's hard to do. Yeah. Yeah,
And look, man, I realized I want to make this
(41:03):
to two out there. But in this jump shooting day
and age, it does show you the benefit of these
hypercentage points. Right. You don't have to go nineteen eighties
basketball back to the basket, big man, dump it into
them and just let them create what was doing, and
they were getting buckets after bucket after bucket. Sometimes it
(41:26):
can work, right, but uh, I think you need to
have that aspect of your game. Um of your team
when the shots just aren't falling. Man, you gotta have
a plan be It can't be the Houston Rockets who
missed how many threes and me. It can't just be well,
I guess we're gonna lose. Then you gotta have another
(41:47):
sign to do. You decide to let's do a layup. Yeah,
let's let's get into the paint or attack the mid range.
You gotta have that other aspect to your game. Man,
you're gonna get bounced. Right. We've been talking about Caleb
Love and what he did last night for North Carolina.
He can come out the next game and be ice cold.
He could. That's just how it goes. Yeah, yeah, that's
(42:12):
where you need Baycott to do his thing. Right. Let
our mindo eat a little bit. Let up, manic, get
some hypercentage buckets. You know, that's why you see these
deep runs. Okay, So we're monitoring this game. Under two
minutes to go Villanova by six. I'm gonna shift gears
on you a little bit here. We were talking about
the Chiefs trading Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins. Now, if
(42:34):
we spend it back to the Chiefs in the a
f C West, if you look at this division. We've
talked about it a lot. It's a gauntlet. If you
had to pick today, you are putting your integrity, your
good reputation on the line, maybe some cash as well.
On one team to win the a f C West.
(42:55):
Who are you betting on? I would put my money
on the look he set up in his chair faster
than I've never seen him sit up that for a
(43:17):
second right there. I had to make sure that was
a COVID shield and not a raider's shield. Him scrill there.
I will put my money right now on the Kansas
City Chiefs. Would stick with them, Okay, I want to
hear the reasoning. Why would you go with them? I think,
(43:37):
um number one, Patrick Mahomes is one of the top
quarterbacks on the planet. He struggled, he's overcoming struggles. We
get it. Yeah, he loses a weapon, But they have Kelsey,
they have the running game, and they have the mind
of Andy Reid and that matters mhm, and so of
(44:02):
pure experience, I would go with them. I don't hate it.
They very well could do it. The main thing I
dislike about the Chiefs is the defense. The defense was
not all world last year. It wasn't even average last season.
And look at what these teams have done where Uh
(44:26):
you look at the Raiders. They upgraded defensively. Uh you
look they picked up Chandler Jones. I like that pick up.
If you look at the Chiefs, I really love what
I'm sorry, the charge is what they did. Khalil Mack.
You match him up with Joey Bosa, pick up j C. Jackson,
have them second in in in the division. I would uh,
(44:46):
I would flip flop it with you. At least I
would put the Chargers first. And I can't argue with that. Yeah,
not the Raiders. No, I'm not gonna pick them. Look
these your things have happened. Let's do this, Danny g Yeah,
who would you? Let's ask that question to you. Okay,
who would you not? I mean reality like cash money
(45:12):
like cash money, your Raiders back mural to the side.
You know, who are you betting on here? Well, Kansas
City because they've proven that they're capable of doing it.
So until further notice, it would have to be Casey
if you're putting cash down. But as far as the
underdog in the division, it's got to be the Raiders.
For all we know, the underdog. There there, they're the underdog.
(45:36):
Let's know what we actually Okay, why already answered who
I would put? Don't just throw, don't just create a
new question. So the answer could be the Raiders best team, colors,
I'd have to say the Raiders best wide receiver. Definitely
the Raiders. Yeah, then that's all you get. Really, Josh
(45:58):
Jacobs isn't the best running back in division. Darren Waller
is not the best tight end of the division. No, really,
Kelsey is better than Waller. Yes, maybe because they're a
better quarterback. But that's all we can go off of.
That's the other part with the Chiefs. I mean, look,
they've won the division six years in a row. We
(46:18):
know their credentials. But unless they do something wide receiver wise,
they draft a rookie in the first round and he
hits the ground running, which could happen with Mahomes unless
they make a big move. They've got Juju Smith, Schuster
and Marquez Valdez Scantling. You know, as a defensive coordinator,
I am making you beat me with them, not Travis Kelsey,
(46:43):
and I can key in on Kelsey a lot more
with Tyreek off the roster. Yeah, but I will tell
you um Kelsey is a tough cover man, goodness, grace,
the way he learns, and and he just makes himself
available there. Their ability to make plays off script is
(47:03):
the thing that makes them so dangerous, Like he like you,
completely double covered and then next thing, you know, well,
how did he get over there? And why is he
so open? You know, they just have that chemistry that
although Darren Waller is a tremendous talent, he just doesn't
have um u um card has a tendency to try
(47:25):
to force it to him right. They don't have that
type of chemistry where when a play doesn't go perfect, happen,
they make something happen. Would you agree with that, Danny?
I would. And that's where I think Davonte Adams is
gonna be a perfect fit in Las Vegas because, and
I said this on the prior show, where I've noticed
(47:46):
car panicking and trying to do things with the ball
and trying to do too much. Is when a guy
like Waller is covered closely, he'll panic a little bit.
But if a guy gets space like Ruggs was doing
at the beginning of the season, then are hits him.
Car hits open guys so Davante Adams his skill set
of getting open and coming back to the quarterback when
(48:08):
the QB is in trouble, less thinking and dunking from Car.
Better play calling by far with McDaniels. And I think
Car is just gonna have an amazing season overall. He
just might. He just might. And that's the thing. You've
seen the movie Dumb and Dumber, right, it's classic, you
know the part where they're in the fancy hotel and
(48:31):
they're crying and using money as tissue. Right, that's gonna
be Tyreek Hill in Miami missing Mahomes in the improvisational
as he picked up so many yards, scored touchdowns, making
plays happen, Like, that's the thing I think Tyreek will
miss the most. It's not I've heard this quite a bit.
(48:52):
Oh to A doesn't have the arm strength of Mahomes.
Granted that's true, but Mahomes isn't airing it out seventy
yards on the regular, you know what I mean. Like
a lot of these throws that Mahomes was making just
arm strength wise. Two, I can throw at forty yards,
he can throw at forty five. He can throw it
across the middle strength wise, like arm strength wise, he
(49:13):
can make those throws. It's just the improvisational thing he
can't do that. They're hardly anybody else on the planet
that can do what Mahomes does in that aspect, and
that's why we give him the you know, we give
them the you know, the division because of that aspect,
which is it was a valuable aspect, especially when you
(49:35):
got it, you know, the upgrades at at at on
the d line of all of these teams in this division.
You gotta make plays. They aren't scripted, that's right, absolutely
you do. And also think about you're facing the Chargers.
You've got an open receiver. But guess what You've got
Khalil Mack breathing down your neck and you gotta escape
(49:57):
stage left to stay upright, you know how, you gotta
make something happen on the fly that's gonna happen to Yeah,
it's gonna be real, it's gonna be great TV. Okay,
here's the question. If you go top to bottom in
the a f C West, what do you think the
packing order is? Your best guess here on March Kansas
(50:22):
City Chargers, Denver Vegas, Casey Chargers, Denver Vegas. Okay, how
about this. What would be the one team in the
one spot that you are the most unsure of the
Broncos in three because that can go up mhm right,
(50:45):
depending on um. You know Russell Wilson and what's Russ?
We get do we get last year's Russ? So do
we get you know early Seahawks Russ and you know
some of the things and their abilities. What that looks like,
you know they have they have an opportunity to move up. Wow,
(51:09):
Houston could not make a bucket. They had several several
open threes and they just couldn't. They couldn't make it.
And that's what it boils down to. You gotta be
able to make shots. Yeah, down by six had a
couple of looks, wide open looks to look like you're right,
You're right, absolutely right, like no one can shoot. Let's
(51:33):
get it to Russ. Yeah, oh my god. Yeah. Hiring

All right, we got a lot to do here, lots
going on, Big Man, coming up next. It doesn't have
to be the exact same, but it's hard to accept
(52:19):
the complete opposite. We'll explain. I'm Brian Now, he's he
from Salam. This is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian, No,
he's he from Salam. Here on Fox Sports Radio. Were
brought to you by one of our favorite cities, Loss Vegas,
the greatest arena on earth. Every game, match, race, and
competition it is always on. No one does sports like Vegas,
(52:43):
and the excitement is endless. To make sure to plan
your trip today at visit Las Vegas dot com. Alright,
big Man, I hope you're sitting down when I unveil
these numbers for you here, So Villanova they beat Houston
fifty to forty four. I hope you bet the under.
First of all, I would say, always take the under.
(53:07):
It's a march madness and general you've cashed a few
tickets if You've done that in the tournament and been
some lower scoring games. Duke has uh had some higher
scoring ones. But how about this in the Villanova Houston game.
Villanova from three point range five for one. Goodness, that's
a shade under not very good. That looks great in comparison,
(53:35):
Houston from three point range one for twenty whopping five
that is a five percent clip. Goodness, gracious, that is awful.
That is it's freaking terrible. Man. There's no way to
spend that, no, I mean, they were much better from
(53:58):
two points. I know, both teams for Houston for fifty two. Yeah,
cold outside both teams shot under thirty from the field.
That's like, those are layups, you know, that's point blank range.
(54:22):
Those are put backs. Everything that's a shot under bro,
That's just that's just bad. That's bad quality in there's
code outside. Yeah, things gotta here, who are you holding?
We gotta see a little bit more shot making with
the Dukies coming up here next. They played well offensively.
(54:44):
They were red hot in the second half last game,
shot over seventy from the field. Gun. We we got
a little situation going on at the the Pacers Toronto game. Yeah,
the situation we got fisticuffs, no clearing the cord. Did
think something filled down? Or oh man, trying to get
(55:08):
to the bottom of it, maybe in a couple of minutes.
Or update guy, guy, we know information, He'll be all
over it. You seek information, just seek the seger give
you the information for fun Arkansas and Duke. The total
is one forty seven and a half. You might you
might be a little bit influenced by what we just
(55:31):
saw and think, oh my gosh, I'm running to the
window to bet the under. Might you take the over
in this one? It's gonna be a higher pace game.
SHOT's gotta be dropping. You're taking the under Arkansas. Arkansas
plays real defense. They're not gonna be allowed open looks.
Next second, the third best defense in all of NT
double a Eric Musselman. You know he came from the
(55:54):
Mountain West. Yeah, hey, you might be right. For fun,
of course, there's no cash involved, no candy bars, and
it's for it's for Fun's is no fun alright, no
no fun allowed. Now I'm curious what you think about this. Uh,
if you look at Lebron James before the next game,
(56:18):
before the last game that was played, the oh, let's
first off, let's go to breaking NBA news our guy
Steve de Sega is with us. You're from right on
top of it. It is a huge lead for Toronto
over the Pacers. But in the second quarter they're evacuating
the building. Raptors up sixty eight. A fire in the building,
(56:40):
reports of a speaker on fire. Quote no reported injuries,
but it's called a two alarm fire and there are
uniformed personnel from the fire department in the building and
therefore evacuation happening. The game has been paused. Wow, thank you, Steve. Obviously,
hope everybody's safe. What's up with stadiums catch on fire?
The Broncos stadium just caught on fire. And that wasn't
(57:04):
just your garden variety. So I'm gonna get a you know,
a bottle of water and put this thing out. Bro.
It was on fire. Yes, absolutely was. Wow, that's crazy.
Hopefully everything's all right at the basketball game. Okay. Now,
if you look at the Lakers big man Lebron James,
(57:26):
I have to yeah, I'm curious what you think about this. Though.
There's been talk about Lebron just before a recent game
started this week, and the commentators like Lebron's at peace,
and they show Lebron on the bench before the game, smiling, joking,
you know, having a great old time. And I'm not
(57:47):
gonna be get off my lawn guy. And I don't
need every NBA star these days to be the spitting
image competitively as Michael Jordan's Kobe Bryant, even a great
competitor like Kevin Garnett. You know, you don't have to
do it the same exact way, but it can't be
(58:08):
the exact opposite. And I don't want to make it
out where Lebron is just there for funning games and
he's not serious about winning at all. But in the
midst of a season where there were high expectations, he's
the assistant GM over here and they stink to the
high heavens. I just I can't see how it can
be funning games before games when they're just in the
(58:30):
play in right now? Do you see it the same way? Yeah?
I would like a little bit more seriousness and urgency
to it, but you know, I guess he figures. I mean,
what else can he do? Right? So sometimes you gotta
embrace the suck man. Are are you drive yourself crazy? Yeah?
I just I go back to something Doug Gottlieb said recently.
(58:53):
He was talking about a conversation he had with Kobe Bryant,
and Kobe said, to Doug, talk king about Lebron. He's
just built different. He's not the savage competitor that me
and Mike are. I'm the type of killer that wants
to kill you and your whole family. Lebron just wants
to be loved, wants to play ball, wants to win games.
But he is not the killer that me and Mike are.
(59:17):
That is completely true, and that doesn't mean he isn't competitive.
He is, but there is no way you know this.
Can you imagine Jordan's team in ninth place in the
conference and he's hurt and it's just all smiles and
jokes before a game. He'd want to kill people, you know,
And I just I don't see that from Lebron. And
(59:39):
you might say, Okay, big deal. He's not the same
as Jordan's. I think there are layers of that that
you see on the floor. And we've talked about it
right where he's passing at the end of games like
two Carmelo a couple of weeks ago, instead of taking
a layup himself. It's that type of thing where it's
that killer, savage, compere editive chip that's just not on
(01:00:03):
the same level, not even close. No, it's not, and
it has never been so in year nineteen, we shouldn't
expect it to be there. Now, that's not who he is,
it's not who he's ever been, and it's not who
he's going to be. Yeah, who got to just embrace
the type of player he is. He's a past first
score and it's been like that his entire life. Isn't
(01:00:27):
that unbelievable. He's gonna go down as the the highest scorer,
like the you know, the top scorer in the history
of the NBA, and he's gonna be known more for
passing up shots at key times. Isn't that strange? It's
wild how that works. That's crazy. That is He's going
(01:00:52):
to score the most points ever and we're gonna know
him more as deferring at times when he should. But
you know, there are times on this show, big men,
when we defer as we absolutely have to. You know,
when this guy is opening the corner for a three,
(01:01:12):
he strokes the j every single freaking times. That's it. Yep,
that is a friend of America, Mr Steve de Seger,
but not as reliable apparently as Jay Wright, because his
Villanova Wildcats are going to the Final four. How about
this since rights record in the n c A tournament
(01:01:32):
that's a Hall of Fame coach is twenty and three
in the n c A as in recent years a
final over Houston a fifty to forty four. We mentioned
earlier that Houston was literally out of three D plus
college basketball teams, number one in the country and field
goal percentage defense opponents average just thirty seven percent from
the floor Villanova percent shooting tonight, but no offense from
(01:01:55):
the Houston side as you mentioned earlier. So Villanova does advance.
The Houston season ends with a thirty two and six record. Again,
fifty to forty four is the final and the late
game starts in twenty minutes. In San Francisco. Two seed
in the West Region, Duke in its regional final against
four seed Arkansas taken the over for fund Steve, what
do you think can they get there? Well? Put it
(01:02:16):
this way. You know how good pitching usually stops good hitting.
That doesn't always apply to Duke. That's a great offensive club,
and we have seen it in this tournament. Even against
good defensive teams, they can still shoot score. They have
one of the top ten field goal percentages in the
country almost as a team for the season, their top
ten in scoring eighty points a game as a team,
So even when they've met good defenses, they've still been
(01:02:38):
able to score unlike most Yeah, there's still a chance
of points even though it's Arkansas and they've gotten here
with some decent defense. As for the NBA, it is
a suspended game in Toronto. Fire in the building here
in the second quarter has caused an evacuation. Toronto is
leading Indiana sixty six thirty eight with about four minutes
left in the first half. Grizzlies ahead of Milwaukee twenty
(01:03:02):
six late first quarter. Bowls up at Cleveland late in
the first and it's Orlando with a record of twenty
and fifty four, leading late in the third quarter seventies
seven seventy six over the Sacramento Kings, and underway it's
the Heat ahead of the Nets twenty five to twenty three.
I don't know if you saw that. Kyrie Irving is
(01:03:23):
very amenable to coming baggy when he holds a player
option for next season, could opt out signed a huge contract.
In his quote, is I love it here one summertime hits.
I know we'll have some conversation, but there's no way
I can leave my man seven. Any of course, this
is Kyrie irvings, so stay tuned. But those are that's
hard his thoughts today. Let's just leave it at that.
(01:03:43):
Earlier today, San Antonio was a winner at New Orleans
one oh seven one oh three, and an interesting article
from Pete Thamil ESPN about St. Peter's. The headline was
financial jackpot unlikely for cash strap. St. Peter's despite generating
n z a A tournament rev do, this is the
small school that's gonna be going up against North Carolina
tomorrow for a spot in the final four. St. Peter's
(01:04:06):
athletic director, they're located in New Jersey, saying that they're
operating budget for the basketball program is the lowest number
by far in their conference. And that's not the SEC,
that's the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. So what kind of
money would be coming their way? Well, the n c
A tournament winfall going this many rounds in, it would
be at least six million dollars total in additional money
(01:04:29):
three levels of payments. However, that gets distributed over a
six year span to the conference, not to the team,
and the league has autonomy how they want to distribute
that money. They could just want to reinvest in basketball
as a conference, although as the athletic director said, we
sure could use it. I have in mind of what
(01:04:50):
I could earmarket before, and I think, frankly, we're doing
the work, so we should get the bulk of the bundy.
But this is a conference that lacks revenue of major
college football, so it would in a lot and they
usually only get the one unit of money, the automatic
bid money, and then they're out first round. That's been
the case with the mac m a a C for
over a decade. How will it be distributed back to you?
(01:05:12):
I just can't believe. Yesterday was National Peacock's Day, imagine
and St. Peter's beat perdue the Peacocks. And we're assuming that,
by the way, these are the final games, maybe tomorrow
the last game for their head coach Sheheen Holloway can
get paid five to ten times more if he goes
back to his alma mater, Seaton Hall. It's kind of
hard to pass that up. You can't. You can't when
(01:05:35):
you come and we just talked about them being cash trapped.
I mean, how much do you think he makes right now?
I was talking to one of my buddies earlier about that.
It's like twods. He was like, I hope he doesn't
leave us. There's no way he stays. He can't financially
be irresponsible. Put it this way, the St. Peter's endowment
as a university is smaller than the John Calipari contract.
(01:05:57):
An to be making like maybe two grand with maybe
a bonus is if that it makes the loss by
Kentucky even worse when you put it the way Steve,
just did you know, like Col's contract, that's basically the
entire school, every department, every sport. Probably noany from Salam
(01:06:23):
with you here on Fox Sports Radio. So there's a
bold prediction here, big Man, very curious what you think
about this. Shaquille O'Neal on The Big Podcast with Shack,
listen to what he had to say about the Lakers
if they're the eight seed and face the Sun's if
they make it to the spot, they will be Phoenix.
Yeah you heard me, because a dy gonna be back,
(01:06:45):
Shakra Damas will be correct. Westbrooks been playing bad. All
it takes is for certain people like that to just
play good one or two games and then it snaps
right back, snap right on back there, big man, what
do you think you buy it? If they end up
being the eighth seed and they play Phoenix, they will
get boat raced. I love the Lakers, you know that
(01:07:09):
they are not the same caliber. I don't care who's
back and healthy. They are not the same caliber team
that Phoenix is. They're just not. And I don't care
what how you shape it, They're not that. It's hard
to just crank it up this pop back in. Like
(01:07:33):
you can't say westbrook been playing bad, but all it
takes is for him to just snap. We will be
even waiting for that snap. Is the snap coming? I
don't know if it is. He's averaging four turnovers the
game as an NBA point guard starting point guard, that
is a lot. That's a lot. Yeah, and you think, look,
(01:07:57):
it's a good swing for the fences take That's exactly
what it is. If he ends up being right about this,
he'll have bragging rights forever. Hell I hope it's one
of those it's so far fetched. It's not gonna stick
to his list of predictions. You know. It's almost like
Barkley saying the Blazers are gonna win a championship, and
(01:08:19):
you're just like, all right, you're just doing that for
dramatic effect. But you know what, you just had it
last year with Anthony Davis. The Lakers had a two
one series lead against the Suns and a d goes
down and it went south for the Lake. I know it.
I know it, And you're not a nine seed trying
(01:08:39):
to scratch in to the playoffs. To be it's the
importance of ball security. Taking care of the ball, and
not just that, but making the right decision when you
have the ball is paramount in the playoffs. One guy
(01:09:01):
for one team has shown he's probably and could go
down as one of the best ever to do that,
and Chris Paul and the other one it's probably the
worst ever as the starting point guard to do it.
You tell me how that that lines up the did
you just reality doesn't line up well, by the way.
(01:09:22):
One little nugget here relating to Shack So the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, they now have teammates Shack Barrett the linebacker
slash rush end right, and also Shack Mason, the offensive lineman.
Both players are named after Shaquille O'Neal and Hakim Elijahwan.
(01:09:45):
I love this story. So Shack Barrett, his full name
is Shaquille Achim Barrett right after Shack and Akim, and
Shaq Mason is Shaquille Elijah Wan Mason. So I'm about
that they're both named after the same two NBA stars.
(01:10:05):
Obviously basketball fans in the family. They end up both
playing football. Go figure, Hello, universe. I just love the
conversations between the parents that I hear in my head,
you know, like baby Shock and a chimer ballers. There's
his name after them. You know what about your grandfather?
I don't even know him. Yeah, it's like, wait what
(01:10:28):
but do you see the dream shake come on after Alijahwan?
Let's do it destined for greatness? Yeah? I love that story.
That's a great one, all right, plenty to get to
coming up next. Uh. The overly optimistic comments continue to trickle.
In one of the latest for Year Round the Corner.
(01:10:49):
I'm Brian no Easy from salam This is Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Brian no He's from Salam. Here on Fox Sports Radio.
The Dollar are Shave Club six Blade razor brings noticeably
smooth shaves with six stainless steel blades for swift hair
removal and a lubricating strip that keeps things smooth. Dollar
(01:11:12):
Shave Club raisors are sold at Dollar Shave Club dot
Com or in stores. All right, big man, So optimism
reigns supreme here in the NFL off season, right, everybody
zero and zero? Oh no, hope springs eternal. You know,
we're gonna do some great things. And I think we
got a shot and all that type of stuff. So
(01:11:33):
here's what I wanna do. I want to introduce the
overly optimistic meter. Okay, scale from one to ten. Ten
is off the charts in Looney Tunes optimism film. Okay,
just way over the top. We're a way far from
(01:11:53):
reality over here with this optimism. So this is the
first comment. This is from Seahawks Safety quadre Digs talking
about Seattle and are they in rebuild mode? Check this out.
I mean, it's always tough to see a guy like russo,
you know, I mean it's a business NFL, and you know,
you see Russ and Bobby going, it's just like She's like,
(01:12:13):
you know, kind of what mode, you know, being able
to talk to Pete, being able to understand that you know,
we're not in a rebuild mode. We're trying to get
this thing back going and build a team differently a
little bit. And you know, like I said, such a
little guys go, two big leaders, two big guys that's
played a critical part of my career and such him go.
But for me, you know, I had to make a
decision based on myself, myself and my family. Okay, So
(01:12:37):
Quandre Digs is back with Seattle. He says it's not
rebuild mode. Drew lock is their quarterback. So on a
scale from one to ten, where would you put this
on the overly optimistic meter? Ten being completely yep, but
(01:12:57):
that's definitely a ten. That's uh. Look, man, I get it,
you get it. You're in the NFL. You don't have
a quarterback. Yeah, you're no. Let me put it this way.
If you lose an elite quarterback, oh man, yeah, and
(01:13:18):
replace him with a guy who could be selling insurance
next year, then you're rebuilding. You're rebuilding. Do you have
zero shot? And I understand as a professional athlete, Quadri
Digs can't go into the season saying, yeah, we're totally
(01:13:39):
in rebuild mode. We have Drew lockez or quarterback here.
You know, he's got a job to do. So sometimes
you gotta lie to yourself as an athlete. So I
understand why he's thinking that and saying that he has
to believe that, but it's not the truth. They're totally
in rebuild mode. Yeah, I mean, look, whether he believes
it or not, the facts don't change. There may be
(01:14:05):
some guys in there who think they have a shot.
It happens. I've been in locker rooms where really, realistically
we didn't have a shot. But you couldn't tell me
that before the season because we're all right and if
season has to play out, But I can tell you
what not having the quarterback, it sure doesn't help you
(01:14:25):
play the season out the way you wanted. No, especially
in that division, it's too much. It's it's too much.
Look you look at that division and you know the
Rams got a quarterback, Arizona got a quarterback. We think
San Francisco as a quarterback you don't have one. Well,
we know you don't have one. You know me, I
don't think very highly of Jimmy g right, but he
(01:14:46):
made it to the NFC title was in Seattle. You
you'd beat you fair better? Yeah, yeah, yeah, drewe lock.
That's a rough cell right there. Okay, we bring back
the overly optimistic scale here. Let's go to Hygreek Hill,
new Dolphins receiver. Here's what he had to say about
his new quarterback, to a tongue of vloa too. Is
(01:15:06):
one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL. Man.
So just his ball replacement, you know, getting us the
ball in space, perfect placement, you know, and us just
utilizing our speed um, utilizing our best asset. And that's
just being dangerous. That's about about eight. You go eighty eight.
I'm gonna go low. I'm gonna give him a little
(01:15:26):
bit of grace. Might be dolphin homerism, right, but might
be it is. Tua is an accurate quarterback. He's very accurate.
I think it's a stretch at all the yes, But
that's the problem when you're selling me on that. It's
like looking at a used car that needs a lot
of work and you're like, but man, the fenders are
(01:15:49):
amazing over you know what I mean, Like a lot
more that you're not talking about. Are the other way
a used car that looks beautiful and you open the
hood and the engine Oway, I don't know what We're
gonna make it to the store or not. Yeah, yeah,
(01:16:12):
this one might be the craziest one of all this
statement here. So Tyree Hill and his agent Drew Rosenhouse,
these are their expectations for Tyree hills role with the Dolphins.
And again, picture you're sitting down for this. They're expecting
Tyreek Hill to have a Deebo Samuel type role in
(01:16:34):
Mike McDaniels offense with quote potential for even another level
end quote. Now you love you some Deebo Samuel as
I do too. And the Niners use him as a
hybrid like a souped up Cord Darrel Patterson as a
receiver and also a runner. Use him as a running back.
(01:16:54):
How what with Tyree Hill? Another level of that. He's
a dynamic receiver, maybe a couple of jet sweeps here
and there. He's not Deebo Samuel and the ball off
to this man and let him run between the tackles.
He is not built the same way Deebo. And there's
(01:17:15):
no one in the league outside of Cordill like Deebo Samuels. Yeah,
he can do anything. Hell, he probably can play linebacker
or r dB. I'm sure you could play safety. Yeah,
it's an unbelievable act. Goodness, great, you can do anything
(01:17:39):
with him, right. Put it like this, Uh, if you're
looking at a running back comp this is the best
I could do with Tyreek Hill. He would be a
bit of a Reggie Bush. Remember Reggie Bush, where he
could run on the outside, couldn't run between the tackles.
That's Tyreek. If you're thinking of another level of debo,
you gotta run between the tackles, and he can't. Tyreek
(01:18:02):
is not he nor does he want to. That's that's
off the charts. That's over at ten. A Deebo Samuel
type role for Tyreek. What Yeah, you've you've lost it there,
completely lost. You can't you can't compare yourself to the outlier.
(01:18:24):
See that's that's the thing, right, Like when someone's that's special,
they're the exception to the rule, right, so you can't
compare yourself to the exception or hey, flip it around,
say Deebo Samuel in the Tyreek Hill type role. As
great of a player as deebo is he's not built
(01:18:46):
the same way Tyreek is. No, no, he's not. Yeah, right,
so it works in reverse the same way it does.
And people try to compare like players, like say you
you compare somebody to uh Jordan's are lebron? Are you know?
Uh Tom Brady? Those are the ex exceptions to the rule.
(01:19:12):
You won't be that. You're not going to be that.
Tyreek has exactly zero runs between the tackles, zero zero zero. Alright,
coming up next, we know the contenders, but who are
the pretenders? Ah? Yes, I hope you're enjoying your Saturday
(01:19:36):
evening hoops action. Early going Arkansas with a nine to
six lead against Duke. You don't think about this, big
man coach k I would argue, that's easily the biggest
storyline left in the tournament. What's number two? Is it St?
Peter's at this point? Yeah, you go Peacocks. What's number three?
(01:20:05):
That's right? Like maybe North Carolina facing facing yeah, you know,
and C versus do that will be number three? Yeah?
It's hey. Villanova is a good team. Jay Wright has
a couple of national championships under his belt, but not
a sexy draw. You know, you're not running to your
(01:20:28):
TV like, oh, let me watch this grinded out style
that's effective. Yeah, uh, Kansas, Kansas plays a fun style
of basketball, but a draw. I don't know. It depends
on which part of the country you're talking about. And
(01:20:48):
Kansas Miami that there's just not a whole lot of
juice and there Yeah, no, not a lot of juice. Okay,
So pan the sound bite that Steve to say are
just played at the top of the hour. Did you
hear that big man with the p A announcers like,
I'm paraphrasing, but in an orderly fashioned These exit Scochia
(01:21:11):
Bank Arena like calmly and bro when they're telling you
leave the arena, all I'm thinking is something isn't right.
I have no idea what it is. But when you
hear this, check this out. At this time, by order
of the fire Cheese, we are being asked to slowly
(01:21:32):
and calmly evacuate the building. There is no threats, There
is no frants to public safety. I'd like to repeat
there is no threats to public safety. The game has
been suspended and we need to ask you to please
in an orderly and calm manner evacuate Scotiabank arena. Wow, man, Yeah,
(01:22:01):
we obviously again, we just stressed hopefully everybody is safe, healthy,
all of that. He shoot them though, Yes, did you
hear the crowd? Is? He sish them on the p
A system. He tried to work it in there. He
intimated that there is a fire without saying exactly that
fire chief. Yeah, he pulled a coach k. He was like,
(01:22:28):
no, no no, no, no, no, it's not acceptable. Yeah, down
he did. He totally shushed him. You heard the crowd.
The crowds like, oh my gosh, fire right there. Starting
to feel that he just shished thousand people. Yeah, wow,
scary situation. Right, you've been to Canada, by the way,
(01:22:53):
what do you think of it? Good? The days in
the summer are long, Vancouver, long, long days. I was
shooting a movie up there a couple of years ago,
and uh, it's gracious, Yeah, it's beauty. It is beautiful.
When we were doing night shoots and he gets dark
(01:23:14):
at ten thirty and the sun comes up at three,
it's not a lot of night time to shoot in.
What is the sun doing out? Again? Lord, I'll never
forget the last shot of the movie. I mean, we
were fighting it. I'm like the sun is coming over
the rise, the sun is on its way. Everything that was,
(01:23:39):
that was. That was a tough five weeks. I've never
been to Canada, man, it's beautiful. Ride was really beautiful.
I might try to go to a Raptors game, you know,
let's see Toronto. Check out a Raptors game. Drake's house. Yeah, yeah,
Drake had me over for lemonade. You know, call it
a call it a trip to Canada. Threes in his
(01:24:00):
his court, at his cool with that, you know, wreck
Drake the way I'm gonna wreck you in the three
point shootout. You know, it's not that much in rix
in effect. Okay, if we go rapid fire here, big man,
we know it's listen, it's March. We haven't even had
the draft. Free agency isn't completely over, so we're not
(01:24:20):
gonna get completely knee deep into this. But as it
stands right now, I think it's an interesting exercise. If
you look at the a f C, which is absolutely loaded,
if you look at the true Super Bowl contenders and
the teams that you would say, no, it's not happening.
They are pretenders. They are not actually in the Championship mix.
(01:24:42):
If we go rapid fire here, you give me a
thumbs up thumbs down of of who you think the
pretenders are, separate the contenders from So I'm I'm pointing
out the pretenders both. We'll go rapid fire right like
we'll do so, say a f C East Bills, I
think we both would be on Derrick Content in the
obvious Dolphins, I'd go thumbs down. They just don't have
(01:25:05):
the quarterback, not enough talent. Jets thumbs down. Patriots, I'd
go thumbs down. Also, Yeah, like you are all about efficiency.
I like this you are. You're absolutely going rapidly. You
can expand a little bit, you know. A f C
North Bengals obviously thumbs up, thumbs up, of course. I
(01:25:26):
mean they were just there. They were there, They're young,
they're more experienced now. Uh, they're going to bolster that
offensive line. Yeah, so yeah, I would say thumbs up
clearly in the mix. I think this is an easy one.
Steelers easy thumbs thumbs down. Yeah, right now, Mitch Robiski
is the QB. Yeah, I don't know how far that's
(01:25:48):
gonna get you, And how's it gonna change? Were you
gonna pick up either Jimmy g Baker Mayfield or draft
a quarterback and come on, they're they're not contenders. No,
it's interesting the rest of the division. Browns thumbs up.
I'm gonna go thumbs up. Also that, Yeah, the big
if if Deshaun Watson is available to play, if he suspended,
(01:26:12):
how long are we talking half the season with Jacoby Brissette.
I'd say four games. If he's suspended four or less, games,
they have a shot. So six, you go, No, six,
It's gonna be hard to make that. Ground of the
a f C is stacked. Man, it's gonna be hard
to make that. You know. If if Jacoby Brosett go
(01:26:32):
three and three, that's a win. Hey man, you sneak
into the playoffs. Look, the Bengals had only one home
game and they want two on the road to get
to the super Bowl. So hey, I'm gonna say thumbs
up on the Browns. How about the Ravens. I would
say thumbs out. I would a reluctant thumbs up. They
(01:26:55):
were eight and three. Lamar got hurt. That wrecked the season.
I can't say they're not in the mix, No you can't.
That's yeah. How about the South let's go with the
obvious Texans stuff. No way, Jacksonville thumbs down. No way,
I'm actually gonna go. It's the borderline. I'm gonna go.
Colt's thumbs down. I agree. Yeah, they're close there, they're competing,
(01:27:20):
but we're talking championship here, and I'm gonna go. I'm
gonna go. Tennessee thumbs down. I'm gonna go reluctant thumbs up.
When you were a one seed with Derrick Henry missing
half the season, yeah, I get it, but you have quarterbacks.
You have to be able to have a good quarterback
(01:27:43):
play once you get to the playoffs. You can't just
you gotta be able to throw the ball down the field.
You have to. Yeah, and that's the problem that they're having.
I know. I just I can't say a team that
is capable of being a one seed just has no
realistic shot. I can't go that far. But I think
(01:28:04):
you can make a good argument even one seed. Did
you think that they would go to the super Bowl
last year? No, But I thought the same thing about
the Bengals, and look what happened with them. That's true,
but they have a quarterback they do That's the different
The difference. The outline is the quarterback. If you don't
have one of those, Look, hey man, those days of
winning the Super Bowl without a quarterback, those are long gone.
(01:28:27):
So we get to the last leg here of contenders
and pretenders. The a f C West Chiefs obviously thumbs up.
I say Chargers thumbs up. Someone say this, I say
Broncos thumbs up. I could I could see that. Now
here's the tough one. The Raiders thumbs down. I can't
(01:28:51):
go there. What would you say, Daddy? Would you give
them what? Thumbs up? Thumbs up? How? Why? Why? Because
they have way more upside than downside firepower fixing that
Grahams in the house there on the defensive side, he's
pulling some good players here. During free agency they will draft.
(01:29:12):
Well wait a minute, you don't like the defensive editions
right then you got Max. Yeah, they do enough to
fix that old line up. Like five, you got Max
Crosby and Chandler Jones chasing your boy Russell Wilson around
the field. He can move, they can't do. He can move,
(01:29:36):
they can't. Patrick Mahomes can move. They're gonna score a
lot of Herbert can move. So you they're gonna score
a lot of points. See if I get it. You
get the edge rushers in a in a division where
all the quarterbacks can move. Okay, they got they got
rock his sin. They got some good safeties and free
(01:29:57):
safeties on the roster. They're beefing things upright. I get it.
I understand, you know. But your goal to can't be
like they're gonna be on the quarterback and then the
quarterbacks will get out of the way. It's gonna come
down to the backside of the defense in the car
get out of the way though, little of mobile get
open quick like the team all day and waller. Okay,
(01:30:26):
you get Jacob O'Brien. You're giving them a thumbs up there,
thumbs up rate a nation. So I've got seven pretenders
in the a f C. You've got nine in a
borderline ten depending on Deshaun Watson's suspension if he's suspended. Yeah,
Hunter Renfro went for over a thousand yards last season.
(01:30:47):
I'm with you, man, I watched all the games too.
By the way, you tell me if this is crazy.
This is Dan Patrick. This was after Russell Wilson was traded.
Here you go, I don't sign off on this and
go Russ has made them an instant play off contender. What,
of course there at least a playoff contender. Yeah, I
(01:31:07):
hate the Broncos and that's ridiculous, that's ridiculous. If my
team got Russell Wilson, I'm like, yeah, we are a
playoff contender right now. Of course you are. That makes
zero sense, but doesn't when you speak from biased then
that's what That's what happens, right Like, for whatever reason
that is. Listen to the former Bronco you got his
(01:31:28):
you know, got the hair at the back of his
neck standing up right here with some of that craziness
right there. It just doesn't make sense based on the
body of work and the person. Russell Wilson is playoff contenders.
So wait, wait, they're not in the mix to make them.
(01:31:49):
Look at where they were last year. They were they
were seven and ten. But you go from Teddy Bridgewater
and Drew Lock to Russell Wilson. What is plus or
minus on wins for Russell Wilson? What would you give him?
At least what five? Oh gosh, and I think it's
(01:32:11):
got to be around like the low end would be
seven and a half, seven and a half right, So
that puts you at fourteen and three based on that metric.
Oh okay, I'm sorry. I thought you were saying, do
you know what I'm saying. I thought you were saying,
like the Vegas win total, what it would be. No,
I'm saying, Russell Wilson what what? How many wins him? Personally?
(01:32:34):
I get it, My bad, I didn't understand um compared
to what they had. Just what do you think, like
you with a good team and what they have. Russell
Wilson going to a good team, how many wins do
you think he brings with him personally? I think on
that team he accounts for three more wins than they had,
three more wins, right, so that puts them at ten wins? Right,
(01:32:59):
You're right in freaking mix. You know that's the way
it unfolds. Of course you're in the mix. That was crazy.
I couldn't believe that Ducas is killing Arcasas on the boards. Yeah,
I the offensive rebowner is out of control. They can't
they can't stop those guys in the middle. Fourteen lower scoring.

All right, coming up next. The downside of Cinderella is obvious,
but let's talk about the upside. I'm Brian Noo. He's
he from Salam. This is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian
(01:34:10):
no He's he from Salam here on Fox Sports Radio.
So we're in March madness mode here, big man, and Uh,
I think there's a flip side to Cinderella. So if
you think about the St. Peter's Peacocks, they're gonna try
to earn a birth to the Final four tomorrow, and UH,
(01:34:32):
if they did, there's a possibility that instead of Duke,
like Duke's trying to win tonight, Let's say Duke gets
by Arkansas instead of Duke North Carolina, which would be
a ratings bonanza right there, you know the rematch, think
about the final game at stadium for Coach Kate, you
got storylines galore. Instead of Duke North Carolina, it would
(01:34:54):
be Duke St. Peter's, and uh, it wouldn't have the
same pizzas it would not and the networks wouldn't like that.
They would not like that. And that's the obvious it's
the obvious downside of Cinderella, and I think it's always
(01:35:15):
looked at like that, and that's true, but I think
there is an upside if you think about this latest round,
if you think about yesterday, the two biggest stories from yesterday,
it was North Carolina against U C. L A. Caleb
Love was tremendous down the stretch for the tar Heels,
and it was St. Peter's. It was St. Peter's getting
to the Elite eight. It trumped everything else. Kansas was
(01:35:38):
the only one seed to survive and it was a
non story. And if you look at Cameron mcgustye of Miami,
he scored twenty seven points and exactly no nobody outside
of Miami cares. There's like not one soul outside of
Miami that cares about it. Because St. Peter's overshadowed that performance.
(01:36:00):
So that's the upside of Cinderella, Right, It's not just
all the ratings and all the networks and like that's
part of it. Sure, that's true, but that's not the
only part of the equation. And I would I were
just showing, um, some of the fans of the Razorbacks
and their slogan hogs smell good. It's just we gotta
(01:36:23):
redtool that. I mean, whoever came up with that, brain child,
Let's go back to the drawing board. A. Yeah, that's
that's tough right there. All smell good. Let's do that.
By the way, I'm just out of curiosity. Are trusted
technical producer Don Brown? I know you get down with
Kane's football. Don do you get down with Kane's basketball?
(01:36:47):
Or are you a bandwagon college hoops fan like I
am with the Irish? Uh? I I do appreciate Kane's basketball,
but no, I am a duke fan when it comes
to basket How what do you mean? How is that possible?
I'm from Virginia. If you're when you're from Virginia, don't
(01:37:08):
we have tech in UV? A you're really a Duke
or UNC fan? There, there's no other talk about it.
But that doesn't seem right, but go ahead. And then
for Miami. I wasn't really watching n C double a
football back in the day, but all I ever heard
was Mike Vick does Mike Vig that? And then one
day I watched Miami plays them in Miami one. So
I said, oh, that team must be really good. I'm
(01:37:29):
taking them. Okay, So I would like to implement something here. Okay,
at no other time through the history of our show,
well we ever go to Don Brown and games and
from his own show and ask him anything, why with
(01:37:53):
with allegiance to a sport or a team. All I've
been I've been holding it down for years plus years. Okay, Yeah,
you're still claiming shenanigans over here. You're saying Kate's football
fan cannot be a Duke basketball fan. So we're gonna
strike him out. He's no longer allowed to participate in
(01:38:17):
any of these conversations. Should it be like we go
to Don Brown. We can't go to Don Brown. Let's
just we'll keep it moving, We'll keep it moving. I
just I can't, okay, all right, which is the worst transgression?
Is it? What Don Brown laid out or you'll get
the Hey, I'm a Laker, Cowboy Yankee fan every now
(01:38:40):
and then? Is that worse? Okay? So Don isn't at
the peak of the No, Don, he's just confused. He's
just confused. So you know you gotta take that into account.
We're speaking to him, do you give some points here
because he brought it up. He brought it up for
twenty years, so there have been some many years, been
(01:39:00):
some hard time that he stuck it out. He hasn't
been in their weather. And it was single moment things too,
Like all it took for me was to realize that J. J.
Reddick was from my hometown and they won the game.
They're not not seen him play for the first time
against you and c. Of course I'm a Duke fan. Man,
he's like twenty three. I think he has some Duke
Jammie's No, we're good. Of course, it's been twenty years. Nah,
(01:39:28):
we're cool, man, alright, front running to me, but that's fine.
You know, someone who is not a front runner, someone
who steeped in reality. This guy is as die hard
as they come, steeped and and and and in in
in team yeah, and the only question really is how
(01:39:52):
has he not been nighted yet. It's really my question,
Sir Stephen. If you mean hit over the head and shoulders, yes,
that has occurred, but not in a formal atmosphere as
far the As far as the Duke game, they're up
on Arkansas five minutes to go in the first half.
But we have an NBA update from Toronto. The Raptors
(01:40:15):
Pacers game will resume in an empty arena. Oh man,
the floor is being cleaned. Players have been waiting in
the locker room this whole time. After a small fire
in a speaker above one of the seating areas behind
the basket, players will come out for a quick warm up.
They'll pick up where they left off with the second
quarter huge lead for the home team, Toronto sixty eight
(01:40:37):
over Indiana. And if you're a fan who had tickets
for tonight, you can, reportedly, according to TSN, get a
full refund at point of purchase within thirty days. So
they'll have a shorter halftime a quick warm up shortly,
but they are due to resume the game in Toronto.
As for the ratings that you mentioned for college Basketball's
n ci A Tournament, keep in mind this year. The
(01:40:58):
Final Four next week in is on TBS. CBS. This
is it for them tomorrow with those two games that
they carry, and you know that weird why would they
do that? Well, yeah, it's part of this. The same
reason they rotate Super Bowl or what have you. Is
so it's their turn to have the Final Four. So
they're gonna need all the ratings that they can get
(01:41:21):
because it's lower when it's not on a regular channel.
I looked it up. It's average. The National Championship game
the last couple of times was on CBS and averaged
about eighteen million viewers. Last time it was on a
turner channel, it was under sixteen million viewers. So you
do take a little bit of a hit right now
with the Duke Arkansas matchup. Getting get this either this
(01:41:44):
is the result for tonight. Either you get coach k
into a Final Four for a record thirteen time that
would break his current tie with John Wooden, or they
lose and it's his last game ever and he goes
into retirement. Duke had three early turnovers tonight. They did
wind up with a sixteen fourteen lead at one point,
(01:42:05):
and half the Duke points were from seven footer Mark Williams,
what a tournament he is, having eight early points also
for Arkansas's j D Note, including a couple of three pointers.
It's now Dukes thirty three, twenty six over Arkansas about
four and a half minutes to go in the first half. Meanwhile,
Villanova has advanced and in fact, their Hall of Fame
coach J Wright just keeps succeeding his team as into
(01:42:28):
the final four for the third time in the last
six tournaments. Effect if you look at these past six
since Duke won its last title in tifteen, then Villanova
got to the final four sixteen and one at all
beat North Carolina. Carolina the one won the title. Very
next year eighteen, Villanova got to the final four and
(01:42:49):
won the title. They've gotten to the final four again,
and in fact, next Saturday it will be Villanova against
either Kansas or Miami to the NBA San Antonio edge.
New Orleans one oh seven one oh three. New Orleans
is tenth in the Western Conference, now a half game
back of the Lakers. Among the many games in progress,
Kevin Durant with twenty one points in their early third quarter,
(01:43:10):
leading big at Miami. It's net seventy seven fifty one
over the Miami Heat. Not doing so well since that
sideline fracas amongst the team and the Kansas City Chiefs
will give a one year deal to running back Ronald
Jones X of Tampa Bay. And keep in mind, we
do have NFL owners meetings coming up in Florida this week.
They will talk about the overtime rule. Did you notice
(01:43:33):
there's not only one suggestion of give each team a
possession in the o t The Tennessee Titans idea is
hate it normally. Of course, you you score a touchdown
on the opening possession, it's over. There was is no
no no. You've got to score a touchdown and convert
the two point conversion and then it's over on the
(01:43:54):
opening possession. Adjust the rule that way is their proposal
back to you, Thanks Steve Ryan, noany from salam with
you here on Fox Sports Radio. I think that's just stupid,
big man. That's dipping your toe in the waters of
let's almost give a guaranteed possession to the other team,
but not quite. You're right, like, I think you either
(01:44:17):
keep it the way it is or you say both
teams get an offensive possession. I hate the Tennessee Titans idea.
Can you imagine, I, Hey, I get it. Look the
Bengals did it in the a f C titled that's it.
This is not an offensive game. It's both sides of
the ball matter. Yeah, I look at it where uh yes,
(01:44:42):
I'm with you in terms of play defense, spear me
your tears. But if I look at it from the
NFL standpoint and what's the most compelling product? What is
the peak of entertainment value? I can't sit here and
say it was peak entertainment value with Josh Allen not
getting on the field for the Bills, I can't say
that to you. So I think it's in the NFL's
best interest to give each team a possession. That game
(01:45:05):
could have went on forever. If you're just given possessions
back and forth, well you just get would be sudden
death after both teams get what I'll say this, we
could meet in the middle of this one. Can you
imagine if they took the Tennessee Titans idea, So this
is the new rule. You gotta score a touchdown and
(01:45:25):
get the two point conversion for the game to be
over with on the first possession. Right, So the Chiefs
win the toss, they get the ball, they go right
down the field, score a touchdown. Now they have to
go for two. They decided to do it. They convert.
Do you think anybody is saying, oh, this is so
much better. I don't even care that the Bills didn't
get a possession, that the Chiefs had to score a
(01:45:45):
two point conversion of nobody's saying that that's just stupid.
It's a bad idea. Go away Titans. Right, Yeah, that's
pretty bad. That's just bad. I was thinking about this too,
talking to Cinderella. If we shift it to the NFL,
which team has the best chance of going on a
(01:46:07):
Cinderella like run in the a f C. Let's just
keep it with the a f C. Over here for
the now. For now, Um, a team that you don't
see going to the super Bowl. We didn't see that
with the Bengals, Right, that's a good example of a Cinderella.
Which team do you think could be that you're not
running to the betting window, but they've got a shot
(01:46:30):
to surprise maybe you and a lot of other people.
I would say either New England or the Raiders. Okay,
there you go, Danny G. Do you think like that?
Plus four thousand and plus Patriots. That's a bet on both.
You know you got to two bullets, so you believe
(01:46:50):
in the Patriots Cinderella more than the Dolphins. Hunt. Come on, man,
I wouldn't come on man. Like both of those teams
that I mentioned have serviceable quarterbacks. TA is very comparable
to match. Don't know. Two is at least on the
same level as Matt and he has not proven to be.
(01:47:13):
He has proven that. How look at what he's done.
That's here's what's happened with both quarterbacks. I'll break it
down for you. Tua has not lived up to the
high expectations. Mac Jones has exceeded the low expectations. And
so it seems like mac Jones is better. He's not.
Two is doing comparable stuff. M al right, there we go.
(01:47:44):
Mac Jones passer rating ninety two point five. That's good
as a rookie. Twa is ninety point one. That's a
second year guy. Right, but they're in the same zip code.
Wait a minute, how many picks did Mac have? Mac
has We'll see Mac had thirteen too. I had ten
boom advantage, uh two, I had sixteen maccads boom right.
(01:48:14):
Passing yards. You gotta gets yards. You gotta get the
David Gascon's passing yards passing yards here. All right, let's
see now two was banged up a little bit little ards.
Hey man, I'm not mac Jone's Mac Jones at thirty
eight hundred to had just under seven hundred jets under.
(01:48:39):
That's advantaged Mac right there. So they're not the same.
They've been in the league longer. Uh huh, Fine, look
at their weapons. You've got to look at the weapons first.
He's got Tyreek, he's got Jalen Waddle, he's got Mike Joe.
Joe didn't have anybody last year. He had zero. He
(01:48:59):
had a bold claim he had no One is not
benched for Teddy Bridgewater. He's gotta outproduce that he's not.
He's gonna be benched. Though he might be for Teddy Bridgewater.
He will be. He will be. I promise you he
(01:49:23):
might be. You know, you know it's true, you know
it's legitimate chance that will be the case. But I
know if he's start from for the whole season, he's
gonna put up better numbers. He won't. He won't, he
will even with the weapons he has no those weapons
that's night and day. Nick Jones almost through the four
thousand yards with no weapons. It's a good rookie season,
(01:49:46):
very good. But bro, you gonta have targets. He's not
a Miami is not a Cinderella story. I'm sorry, I
know that's what you are. Candidate than the Patriots. Now,
better make a better, better coaching, better culture and the East.
(01:50:06):
There a better Cinderella candidate than the Raiders are. Yeah,
you can make that argument. I was hoping you would
make that. I will not want to make that. The
Patriots just picked up Malcolm Butler out of retirement. Yeah,
they brought him back. Good job. They did him wrong?
(01:50:26):
Is that just their guilty consciousness benching him? You've got okay, Tyreek,
Jalen Wattle, Mike get sick. He compared to be able
to get him the ball, Kendrick board, We'll see. I'm
sure Teddy will be able to give him the ball.
So okay, the law firm of you guys got a
shot him. If Teddy Bridgewater is your starter, you got
(01:50:47):
rubbish to throw two over there. Nope, and they still
manage uh to do what you guys couldn't. Pretty impressive,
but no, Josh McDaniels. Huh offensive identity that changes. Well,
we'll see. Yeah, Miami upgraded with Mike McDaniel. Your Patriot
downgraded with the loss of Josh McDaniels. I don't think
(01:51:08):
they upgraded with Mike McDaniels. We'll see what what what.
Brian Flores is a hell of a coach. He was,
but he wasn't an offensive guy. Like but he had
those guys playing hard. Absolutely, you will not get an argument.
So that's where that's that's the disconnect, right, Like guys
who wanted to play for him, and we've seen guys
(01:51:29):
not want to play for other So we'll see. I
don't know. I know Mike. I think he's gonna be
a heck of a coach. But what I do know
is Brian Flores had had those guys and he had
the locker room, and that's what you need. He had
the locker room, he had him playing hard. Both of
those things matter a lot in the NFL. But they
were not playing consistent offense. And some of that is
on They don't have a quarterback. That's why Brian better
(01:51:54):
weapons into better weapons. But I mean think about this too.
I'm not expect thing to to have a Josh McDaniels
growth spurt in year three, But we didn't see that
from Josh Allen either. Like Josh Allen, the Bills quarterback
the first two years were nothing to write home about now,
but he had the tools. Though, big strong all of that,
(01:52:14):
we don't know what it is. Joe Burrow is not
big strong Allen like. Yeah, yes, he's just a hell
of a quarterback from the get go. So he hit
the ground running. So to Justin Herbert, who Miami could
have had, don't don't rub it in. Don't rub it in.
That's just coming up next. The Dollar Shave Club six

(01:53:45):
at the half forty five to thirty three. My fictitious
overbet is well ahead of pace. Over here. You're lucky.
I took gambling off for Lance because you would be
owing me candy bars left and right over here. Look, man,
don't tell me I'm lucky that you decided to enlighten yourself.
(01:54:05):
Try to tap into your spirituality. You're lucky. You know
you're you're lucky. Here you'd be owing me. I can't
wait to go back to your heathenistic ways. Wait, yes,
I'm gonna bet the first quarter back. Yes, beautiful thing.
(01:54:27):
How about by the way, how about my adopted Brooklyn
nets Kyrie. I'll tell you what you might have been
right on that one. Okay, you're starting. Don't get that
a lot from me because you're normally never well I
(01:54:47):
don't want to say never, but most of the time
you're not right. Um. They are dangerous. Dangerous. They are dangerous,
like for real, the mandate is lifting. Um are there
on a mission. They are dangerous. They are especially in
a seven game series. We're still wondering about Ben Simmons
(01:55:11):
with the back issue or the dude still not playing
no basketball, bro, he has not been on the court
for a game money making. I know it. Okay, I
can't even. I'm sorry. By the way, as a former
professional athlete who rang the bell every time he was asked,
I just can't. I'm sorry. And I know it's a
(01:55:33):
different era. I'm gonna say these dudes are soft. I
I just I don't know, man. I loved the troll
job earlier this season when the Nets were at Philadelphia
and before the game. I don't know why Ben Simmons
did it, but he dunked and the fans are like, oh,
(01:55:55):
look at the dunk that you you didn't pull off
when you were in uniform over here against Atlanta and
dished it to somebody else. That was pretty funny. That
was a good troll job. Some are just very mean spirited.
That was a good funny troll job right there. I
give high marks. Yeah, you gotta get on the court.
Man on the court. I I can't deal with that.
(01:56:16):
You gotta play buddy. Danny g Our, trusted producer, asked
me an interesting question. This is off the air a
little bit ago, and he said, do you think it
will ever happen in the NFL where an entire division
makes the playoffs. Let's take the a f C West.
It's a gauntlet. Every team has a lot of talent.
(01:56:38):
Do you see it ever happening. I don't. I don't
see because they have to eat each other. Yeah, so
that's just it's impossible because they do have to play
each other twice. It's listen, six games in your division,
but now you play seventeen total, get an extra non
(01:57:01):
divisional game, and let's say you're basically three and three
in division and you're just wrecking shop outside. Like technically
it's possible. I don't think it's ever gonna happen. That's
hard for we know three can do it before. Yeah,
I just I don't see four. I don't see four
because and I also think, yeah, all these teams have talent,
(01:57:23):
but that can work against you. Also, I think there's
gonna be attrition. Those are gonna be absolute battles, you know,
And in turn, like it's like playing look at these
SEC teams, you know, where you play a tough team
and another tough team and another tough team, and all
of a sudden, you're losing to a squad that you're
realistically shouldn't. You're worn out, you might be banged up
(01:57:46):
like that could easily happen in the a f C West,
Yeah you can. Yeah, that's normally what happens when you
have a division so packed like that, the teams really
wear each other out. Yeah. I go never, I go
never never. And we will never ever ever have an
(01:58:10):
undefeated team in the NFL going to a seventeen game season,
And I don't ever see it happening, you like we
would be at twenty and oh you gotta go twenty
and oh with your three playoff games. No, that's dad stuff. No, No,
by the way, how about this the thirty five year
(01:58:31):
anniversary of Rick Rolling. Huh the Rick Athletes song Never
Gonna Give You up and it turned into this popular thing.
You might get an email and all of a sudden
it turns into the video. It's you got Rick Rolled.
It's thirty five years old. That album was an eight seven.
Big man. Wow, you weren't even alive yet. I was
(01:58:52):
ten years old. Don Brown was twenty three years from
Big Born. Yeah. Don Brown wasn't even thought of it.
Good stuff, man, everybody, have a good evening. We'll see
you
