Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listen to Fox Sports Radio. Do not, do not,
do not touch that dial. You heard the man. It's
time for Fox Sports Sunday, and we've got a lot
in docket, so let's get busy. On that note, please
put your seat backs forward, your trade tables up right.
We are ready for takeoff. My name is Bernie Frati.

(00:22):
Come you live from Las Vegas. Fox Sports Radio Studios
will take you after three and Pacific six am Eastern,
along with my savvy and capable crew, Bill Benson, Christ Perfett,
Brian Famley on the updates, and Eric camp and training.
They'll Matt. They will of course man the ship from
our Los Angeles compound, turning all the dials, keeping us
glued together as usual. As I said, a ton on

(00:43):
the agenda. There's a lot of NFL news this week,
including a Rooty rule update, the overtime rule revisited, plus
a brand new team. When Near and Dear to my
heart will actually be featured on Hard Knocks this season,
we'll get to that. Uh. Plenty of names in the news.
A Super Bowl winning coach who uh has made a

(01:05):
kind of a head turning decision with a little bit
of odd timing earlier in the week, which caused a
massive amount of crazy speculation. But that's what people like
to do. That plus what kind of brand new fool
are you? And what my name? In the final hour,
as well as Chris Perfects report on the world of soccer.
So as you can see, we've got a time to
get to But first I want to take a look

(01:27):
at the legacy of one coach Buntsovski And as you
might not be surprised, all reviews are not necessarily blowing.
That's just the way it works in the world. Uh,
no matter, every four years we have an election and
sixty million people will vote for one guy who lost.
So that's just the way it works. Uh. We in
our country have a tendency to elevate people to their

(01:50):
highest plateau, only to judge them harshly. That's not what
we're gonna do here. But I tell the whole story
and the legacy of coach k while it's glowing won
over games. Uh. Since Duke is what twenty nine in
the n c A Championship, and so it's more likely

(02:10):
than at one point or another they're gonna make enemies
a fan basis because they want a lot that. Frankly,
that's the number one reason why so many people hate Duke.
Have you heard mackenzie. You can tell he's not a
Duke fan. Maybe he thinks he has they have some
unfair advantage. Be that as it may. Over fourty years,
his record has been pretty good. See but no matter
the sport, if the team or a athlete begins to

(02:31):
win too much, a deep seated hatred will start to
brew from some people, especially if the athletes don't appear spectacular,
they don't pass mustard or and I think at some
point the importance of coaching is often overlooked, and that's
just the way it works. Coach K enjoyed sort of
this majestic farewell tour, which I thought was cheesy to

(02:51):
begin with. He talked about it last year coming back
they didn't make the tournament last year, he said he
couldn't leave the team that way. Um, I just you
just seem self serving to me. But that's just me.
But regardless, they pulled it off. Hell, they got to
the final four. Give him a little credit. But let's
get to some real talk here, because, uh, there are

(03:13):
a lot of folks that don't care for Coach K
because if he leaves a little too smarmy and preachy
and by the way, not for nothing, uh he's he
will forever be joined at the hip with Bobby Knight.
And I'll explain why a lot of folks don't probably
know that history. But as much as spectacular athletes are
forced to, you know, confront egos for team building and

(03:34):
and it doesn't always go wealth in the relationship with coaches.
When a coach is considered an above average coach and
or genius or portrayed as being far superior to their peers,
who you know, people will line up to give that
coach a reality check. Okay, some media outlets, most won't
do it. Fans will do it. They'll push athletes to

(03:56):
check themselves. They'll push coaches to check themselves. So as
much as coach k has revered in some circles, there
are also plenty of instances where, you know, the fourty
year coach has I think exposed what I considered to
be with a lot of folks consider to be not
my words, but described by others as quote an unrestrained ego.

(04:17):
I'm gonna give you some I'm gonna give you three
noteworthy examples. We tell the whole story here back in
Oregon had just eliminated Duke from the n c A tournament,
and in the post game handshake line, Coach K appeared
to give the Oregon Ducks guard german, gentleman, you remember,
but Dylan Brooks, he stopped him and he gave a

(04:37):
sort of a very brief but it seemed like intense
lecture following a bit of last second bravado when Dylan
Brooks celebrated. Then Coach K, apparently because a video went viral,
lied and he just he said that they asked Dilon Brooks.
He said, he told me I'm too good of a

(04:57):
player to be showing off at the end. That's what
Dylan Brooks told reporters after the game and after that
little kerfuffle that erupted around Coach k. Uh. He's but
he's right, Dylon Brooks was very classics, right right, I've
got a respect you. But then Coach K denied it happened.
I didn't say that, Coach K said, after reporters related
Brooks version of events. You can say whatever you want.

(05:20):
Dylan Brooks is a hell of a player. I said,
you're a terrific player, and you can take whatever he
said and go with it all right. Then after that happened,
a video with clear audio, a clear audio feed emerged
and it showed Coach K telling Brooks, You're too good
of a player to do that. You're too good of
a player. He took umbridge to Brooks celebrating at the

(05:41):
end of the game, stopped him. Now you think it's
appropriate to shake, you know, to to stop a player
and an opposing team and give him a lecture. I don't, Brooks,
I mean, what was actually what was Dylan Brooks in
in that? In that Okay, he sinks the late game
three pointer with the game's result already decided, I get it.
Then he sell braids he was he kind of did
this emphatic salute. And after the video showed that, Coach

(06:04):
K did, in fact, quote say that the Duke coach
who has been you know he's been. He's in a
forty year beatification process. He's been lionized for decades as
a holy paragon of all American virtues. In the issues
his statement, but Coach K didn't say lied, which is
what he'd done. Instead, Coach K said he reacted incorrectly

(06:25):
to a reporter's question about my commented Dylan and now
those are some impressive you know, that's that's a nice
little word salad there and contorting things. But enough, Okay,
that scene came and went, and it's part of the history.
I'm just saying, it's part of the history. Um, he's
one of the greatest coaches of all time. But we

(06:45):
tell the whole story. Then there was the situation involving
Grayson Allen a few years back. Grace and Allen was
suspended indefinitely by Duke and coach k after he tripped
a player after the were wiping a team out during
some preseason midweek game, like I don't even remember who
was against and Alan at that point had really Grace

(07:07):
and Allen had really sort of become notorious for his
his dirty antics. Okay, and on that, on that you know,
Wednesday night, it was almost like this little goofy kung
food tripping move. The truth of the matter is it
was his third, Grace and Allen's third tripping incident in
the past thirteen months. But then, you know, Alan doesn't
just trip people. He'd flop people and undercut and tackle him.

(07:30):
And he had a body of work and he was
a Legitimately he I like Grace and all and I
had a nice conversation within the Summer League a couple
of years ago. But legitimately, in addition to being very talented,
he had some very questionable antics, which I think could
be characterized as dirty. I'm not saying as a dirty player,
but he had some situations where he engaged in dirty antics.

(07:52):
So when when Grace and Allen was suspended that after
that little transgression um even in doing so, Coach K
was very arrogant and sanctimonious about it. He didn't bench
him during the game. He continued to play, which again
had you know, three trip againstidents in thirteen months, And

(08:13):
when questioning about it after the game, Coach K was
hardly gracious or virtuous about it. Right, he he projects
himself to be sort of this paragon of integrity, but
when these incidents happen and it becomes a recurring theme
and reporters that it would question about him, what is
coach What did Coach K project in He projected arrogance, defensiveness, marminus.

(08:36):
He talked down the reporters. He went on to say, quote,
I handle things the way I handled them, I think
I've handled this correctly, and moving forward, I would continue
to handle it correctly. I don't need to satisfy what
other people think I should do. I'm a teacher to
coach and I'm responsible for that kid. I know him
better than anybody, so to think it's the last thing
that said about this to him is wrong. Coach K

(08:59):
wasn't done. He went on the said, obviously we will
do more to reprimand Allen, but that doesn't mean you
have to see it or anybody else has to see it.
And then a couple of days later, there was a
little more outrage and uh amusement and people were making
fun of the incident, making fun of Coach K's reaction.
Uh you know, Duke announced again he'd been suspended indefinitely,

(09:20):
still still at while addressing the media. For a guy
that with his track record and his reputation, I think people,
reasonable people would have hoped for a more simple and
more genuine, a little bit more humility, a little you know,
humble response. Would that have been too much to ask?

(09:41):
And then a couple you know, a couple of days
later after the incident, Dan Patrick of our Fox Sports
radio network, UM, I think you could, you know, I'm
sure you could probably, I'm sure you could probably find that,
you know, that interview somewhere. Dan Patrick, who's not afraid

(10:01):
to ask the pertinent questions, asked the right question, and
once again, same tone of voice, Coach K came off.
Was very arrogant, very dismissive, very sanctimonious, very petulant. Same guy.
And it's my understanding that if you can find the clip.
About a minute and a half into the interview, coach
Coach K called Dan Patrick naive and then he awkwardly

(10:25):
tried to shift the discussion from one about Alan's antics
to a general discussion about you know, human beings do
human things that causes people to roll their eyes, especially
when you're trying to mention Coach K in the same
breath as John Wooden and Dean Smith and right on
down the line. And he's got a whole year than

(10:46):
now sort of posture which I think people have accused him.
I'm talking about coach gay and maybe it's turned but
in these incidents I just described three of them, Um,
you know it's not it's it's it's not because it's
unbecoming of somebody that you would expect better from to

(11:06):
be sure. Look, coach k is a historically great coach.
He's revered by many of his former players, and for
obviously very good reasons. His accomplishments they very much speak
from themselves. He's winning, he's winning, he keeps unwinning. But
his attitude in the aftermath of these certain events also
speaks volume of him right now, and there's been articles

(11:29):
written about how some of the players embodied the arrogant
santimony of coach kay Um and in the three incidents
I I just I just, I just you know referenced.
Then there's the the legendary Duke slap on the floor
of defense. I never never bothered me. I don't really care.
I think it's kind of interesting. I see high high

(11:50):
school teams have copied it. But in the you know, um,
it's an eloquent way of sort of saying, you know, Duke.
The Dukes love it, their opponents hated they slapped the
floor on defense. It's part of their legacy, but it
also sort of speaks to what some people don't like
or even hate about Duke. And if the arrogance of

(12:10):
Coach K wasn't clear that this this this sort of
slapping the floor summarizes it right. There was a gentleman,
a writer for The Slate named Nick Green five years
ago who said, quote like expensive medical centers and college republicanism,
floor slapping is something that has come to be expected
from Duke. All right, that's just one writer's opinion. But

(12:33):
as you can see, it's your tradition, spend their sinse eighties.
It's a tactic used in Man and Man coverage, and
it's it's just a little it's a little over the top,
I think. But when asked about it, what did Coach
K say? Why the hell? Not? So again, whenever he's
calling the question, he doesn't react necessarily the most gracious way.

(12:55):
And I think over time, the cumulative effect of these
events coupled with the fact Duke wins and they're very
deserving of their success. But there's a sort of a
sanctimony there. It doesn't rub people the right way. Now.
I'm not a Duke cator, I'm not a Duke fan.
I don't care. I'm in the middle. I respect their accomplishments.
We tell the whole story here. Though Coach K is

(13:17):
done forty two years, people will form their opinions uh
Ian O'Connor wrote a pretty interesting book. You might be
you might want to read it. Okay, Coach k is
not a perfect man. He's been known to be a
potty mouth. He's been known to be a lot of things.
But he's also very successful and presided over quite a
body of work. But there's one final thing. The Duke

(13:38):
fans and the Cameron crazies. And it's possible the whole
two thoughts can currently when I give them top respect
and they bring an incredible atmosphere. I did go to
one game at Cameron Into Arena back in two thousand six,
and boy, I'll tell you it's a bucket list thing.
And they think they're smarter than everybody else. And why
is that? It's enabled because they've taken on the personality

(13:58):
the field general see in in in the United States,
among certain circles, there's a historic taste for blue bloods
because especially in politics, it's it's it's the same thing
where there are people like politicians that are born of
wealthy backgrounds. Their scene is unrelatable to the general public.
So sometimes an institution like Duke their fans can become

(14:21):
very obnoxious about the exclusivity they're their their reputation and
there you know, obviously their success and all of the things.
Uh So, I mean, the long and the short of
it is that you know, from the Cameron crazy standpoint,
they just claim they're rooting for their team. Right, they
don't sit down, they jump up and down. Uh. They

(14:44):
use taunts like and when wake Forest comes in, they
taught them calling them safety school, whatever the hell that means.
And they'll hold ups when they play U n see
they got a chance that says we're smart, you're dumb.
That plays off Duke's academic standards, which are very high.
But that Anger's opponents and uh, you know some of
the even some of the students on campus because it's unbecoming.

(15:06):
And when when when when they when they point those
taunts in that anger among you know, in people see
it on TV, there's gonna be condemnation. And the condemnation
that two casts for their opponents is can be very obnoxious.
They'll say things that you know and then the opponents
will say, well, we don't hate you because you're smarter.

(15:27):
We hate you because you think you're smarter than you are.
So it doesn't necessarily bring out bring out the best
in people. So when they write the history books, the
long and short of it is, uh, you are going
to be You're going to be seeing and hearing um various,
uh diverse opinions. And and again you can google you

(15:50):
and O'Connor's book. It's a it's a bit of an expose,
a right. And and when you look at what happened
on Saturday March twelve, it was supposed to be the
grand simned Off or Coach K in front of all
their adoring Cameron fans, but instead the targe Hills dominated
the game. And you know, all too often as it happens,

(16:10):
as it happens after Duke losses at home, the focus
is and is on the lack of sportsmanship coming from
the Blue Devils, Okay, and sometimes it's even coaches and
Coach K. So the fact of the matter is, I
am going to be interesting to see. By the way.
Coach K is already the Hall of Fame. He was
he was elected to the Hall of Fame twenty one

(16:33):
years ago. His record is secure. It's just that there
have been some incidents and encounters that allows people who
are merely objective to call in the question how he
handled those things and Mighty have handling better coming up.
I'm gonna tell to tell you why coach k and
Bobby Night are forever joined at the hip. Why that's
actually a good thing and maybe in some cases not
a good thing, And it's my understanding they sever the

(16:54):
relationship a few years ago. I'm Bernie Fradder Company Alive

Radio and Bernie Frado coming you Alive from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio studios take up to three and
Pacific six am Eastern. I'm gonna talk about the Coach
K Bobby Knight relationship. They will forever be joined to hype,
even though the relationship has been severed. Uh. And there
are a lot of similarities. But Night had no filter,

(18:34):
and I think Coach K became a well crafted, polished product,
but lurking inside it was a little Bobby Knight. And
before I share this real quickly, I I gotta tell
you one of the best basketball conversations I ever had
was here in Las Vegas and Thomas and Mac. Bobby
Knight did some commentating probably five, six, seven years ago.
And you know, like him or hate him even for

(18:56):
your own opinions, I don't care. Obviously, his legacies weeks
for itself good and bad. But he also you know,
built a five million dollar library and create a training
table and shooters on the road and did a lot
of things in Indiana. He just he just did some bad,
dumb things too, But I'll never forget that. He told me.
He faced. My philosophy. He told me was that if

(19:18):
I can get my opposing team, if I can shoot
more free throws, then my opposing team makes uh or
make more free throws. In my opposing team even shoots,
I'm gonna win. So everything on offense was designed for that.
And we would talk during the game about how players

(19:39):
would needed to get the ball moving side to side
to create space, to create lanes, because he would much
rather see a guy get to the whole draw contact
from a three point play and create a foul then
even there was one point in the game where the
top three point shooter shooter for the team, it was
wide open, launched the three and missed it. And he said,
see that was a bad That was dumb on that
kid's part, I said, he's but he's their best three

(20:01):
point shooter. He goes, but he was wide open, he
had a wide open lane. He could have gotten to
the lane, got to the whole drawn contact. The idea was,
if I can make more free throws than you even shoot,
we're gonna win. And he talked about the same thing
on defense too, where he said he taught us players
always show the ref your hands. When a player drives
into the lane and you reach, you may not make contact,

(20:25):
but the referee can't see that. You could be called
a file. But if your hands are spread out to
your side as far as they can see in the
ref sees your hands and you're playing defense with your feet,
what's the reason you don't want to commit files and
send the other team to the line. So there was structure.
Not everybody could live with that structure, but they did.
You know, they're undefeated in seventy six, won the national
championship at any one and eighty seven. But I digress.

(20:48):
He is while they were both at West Point, uh
Bobby Knight in coach ca There's no question Night was
his mentor and between the teacher and student, and Knight
was Schofsky's coach from sixty six to sixty nine, and
clearly he learned structure, he learned discipline, he learned game planning,
and part of those things carried over into Duke and

(21:10):
certainly some some of the attitude. But his coach k
took the ranted Duke and sort of became a rising star.
The tone shifted in Bobby Knight for whatever reason, the
two I don't think got along as well. And and
again this is chronicled Indian O'Connor's new book, and it's
also been chronicled in Sports Illustrated because back in seven, uh,

(21:36):
Bobby Knight when they won the national championship, Keith Smart
hit the shot against Syracuse and then but before that,
people were you gotta remember, Indiana beat Duke in the
Midwest Regional finals and that was sort of a seminal,
seminal event, seminal event because that was the beginning of
a quote the divorce between the two coaches, according to
a friend that talked about it, because Coach k so

(21:56):
badly wanted to eliminate the notion that he was nothing
without Bobby Knight's patronage. He wanted to get out of
his shadow, and Coach K's to take an every opportunity
to start to outline their differences while doing his best
to stay on Bobby Knight's good side, whatever that meant.
And that's not so easy to do. And the truth
of the matter is it didn't work. And before the

(22:17):
national semifinal game tipped off. Uh, Bobby Knight, you know,
handed Duke special assistant, a gentleman named Tom Rodgers an
envelope and asked him to give it to Coach K
after the game. And then, uh do actually And after
the game, Chowsky approached Bobby Knight for the traditional postgame

(22:37):
handshake and Knight blew right by him. And then there
were multiple other incidents like that. And then I just
my understanding there were there were a couple of additional riffs,
Uh that Bobby Knight was angry that Coach K did
not accept his offer to help him Scott for Team
USA prior of the Olympics, and uh and and and

(23:00):
they just there was a rift. And then the final
break in the relationship, I think according to you and
O'Connor came in Bobby Knight was being honored by his
former Army players at an event in North Carolina and
Coach K showed up and it became a disaster. Night
Night gave him the cold shoulder. Coach K was in tears,
and he went home and told his wife it's over.

(23:21):
And I think that bothers Coach K. So Coach K
is not Bobby Knight. He has more of a sensitive side,
but I think he had some Bobby Knight tendencies, which
is why I shared some of those incidents with you. However,
having said that, I do think his record speaks for itself.
The bottom line is Coach k is one of the
greatest coaches of all time. But I think you're going
to hear again diverse opinions come out over the next

(23:43):
few weeks, a few years, because you know he's not perfect.
Of course, to that to that end, who among us
is coming up? I promised earlier NFL win totals four
teams to watch for who the Pros have already fired on,
And no, it's not too soon to start thinking and
talking about that. We're three weeks away from the draft,

(24:04):
and before you know it, the NFL season will be here.
And now is the time. If you see teams that
you like, you want to fire on the over under.
We're gonna tell you which ones the Pros have gotten
out ahead on. But first let's go to a gentleman
who's a man of great wisdom. I was talking to
him earlier in the week and I told him flat out,
I said, you know, Brian, some days I feel like
a TP. Some days I feel like a wigwam And

(24:26):
he said, Bernie, you're two tenths. It's Brian feeling with
the latest. Thank you, Bernie, and let's go with the
Final four and college basketball. From Saturday, we saw number
eight North Carolina finish off number two Duke eight one
to seventy seven. This was significant because it was the
last game for coach k His career ends in a
loss in the Final Four. So now U n C,

(24:49):
which is the eighth seed in this tournament, they are
tied for the lowest seeded team to reach a final
in forty one years. You got to go back to
nine and the Heels will be going up against another
blue blood in Monday's championship. That would be number one Kansas.
And after they distanced themselves from number two, that was Larry.

(25:11):
That would Bernie, You're absolutely right. Seventy nine. Yeah, Indiana
State in Michigan State, and yeah, that would be correct.
You were on your game as always, and David McCormick
was also on his game because he had twenty five
points for the Jayhawks to the NBA is where we go.
We had lighter night about five games taking place on

(25:32):
Saturday the Brooklynnetts, and they got fifty five points from
Kevin Durant. They got more more than thirty from Kyrie Irving,
and they still lost. And it came to the Hawks
to one fifteen. The Jazz fall short to the Warriors
one eleven to one oh seven. The Heat rolled past
the Bulls one to one and nine. Jimmy Butler had

(25:53):
twenty two points. And even though Chicago has a winning record,
their record against winning teams is not something that they're
too proud about. The seventies sixers they blow out the
Hornets to one fourteen, Joel Embiid doing it big with
twenty nine points in fourteen rebounds, and the Calves hobble

(26:15):
the Knicks in a win, with Darius Garland putting up
twenty four points along with thirteen rebounds. And that was
a one nineteen one oh one final score. Bernie, as
I sent it back to you, there was so much
promise around the Knicks this year, and their ten games
under five certainly under performing with all the expectations around them.

(26:36):
You're gonna have to take that up with our good
man Jason Smith. Yes, yeah, I'm sure he'll be happy
here for a minute. All right, thanks so much, Brian.
It's never too soon to talk NFL and it's never
tuned to soon to talk NFL betting, even though we're
five months away from regular season games. What happened is
past week, Well, many books released the over underwin tools.

(26:58):
What does that mean that they project? And remember these
are seventeen games seasons now they project a total. For instance,
the Houston Texans, they're over under win total is four
and a half wins. So if you think the Texans
are gonna be better than that, you think they can
win at least five games, you bet the over. If

(27:20):
you think they're gonna be not so good and they
can't even win, they can't get to five wins, you
bet the ender. You get the picture. And the Houston
Texans happened to be one of the teams on the
list this year that the pros I have fired on them.
I'm gonna tell you where they're at on this. So
the Texans actually won four games in the season, and

(27:42):
they're gonna have the third pick, the thirteenth overall pick
of the draft. And while they haven't really made a
lot of moves to get better so far in the
off season, they haven't got any worse, and they finally
got the distraction of quarterback to Shaun Watson away from
the team. They've had a number of high draft pick
picks come back their way as company station, and they
seem content and seeing what Davids Mills has to offer,

(28:05):
he had some he showed some real promise last year.
They don't keep me long' wrong. Houston is not going
to be good, but the pros think they'll win more
than four games, and so their pick over four and
a half wins Houston Texans. Let's talk about the Kanna
City Chiefs. The a f C West has been the
talk of the off season. Everybody got better. The Chargers

(28:25):
brought back some key pieces to their offense. The Broncos
made the big trade for Russell Wilson. The Raiders traded
for Davante Adams, one of the Chiefs too. When they
traded away their receivers Tyree Hill. They did sign Juju
Smith Schuster and Marquess Valence Valice Scantling. They got them
in free agency and they do have two late first
round picks. But for a team in a division that

(28:47):
took all these strives to get better, it may be
a little unsettling at first glance to see that the
Chiefs seemed to have taken, at least on paper, a
step back. But as long as you have Patrick Maholmes
anything as possible, they're double digit win total. Eleven is typical.
Uh and uh, the Chiefs have this is tips. You know,

(29:10):
it's typical in the sense that they have not been
projected to win under ten games since two thousand thirteen,
and they pretty much come through everither this last year.
They're projected to win twelve at landed right on the number. Uh.
But the pros this believe they're gonna be under eleven
wins this year. You could see a ten and eight
Chiefs team. Uh. That division is gonna be tough. They're

(29:30):
gonna beat each other up pretty good. So short answer,
Chiefs under eleven wins and the Cincinnati Bengals there they
he saw what they did. They're projected they're over under
is ten wins. So we're the pros feel about this one. Well,
the Bengals were expected to go one of two ways
with the number five overall selection. In the consensus was

(29:55):
that they would either go with an offensive linement or
a wide receiver. Well, Joe Burrow was coming off an injury,
so it made sense to go a line. But you
know what, Joe Burrows said, No, No, let's get a
guy trust me on this. His name was Jamar Chase.
Jamar Chase. I think it's fair to assume the Chiefs
might not have made it to Super Bowl fifty six

(30:16):
without Jamar Chase. So what did the Chiefs do? Though?
Or check that, what did the Bengals do? They've brought
in three veteran offensive linemen and they still have the
dominant wide receiver, so Burrows should have more time in
the pocket. I would say the improved offensive line should
help further open up the run game. Joe. Mixing all

(30:36):
these factors spell improvement for since they resigned Jesse Bates.
Cincinnati was not a fluke. They have sixty five million
in cap space. Joe be a little bit more protection,
and I think Cincinnati definitely goes over ten wins. Eleven
and seven does not seem unreasonable at all. Maybe even
twelve and six. We shall see, but that's how the
pros field. The Bengals go over ten wins. Finally, the

(30:59):
Carolina Panthers, Uh there. It's never really been a disappointment. Um,
they and for what it's worth, they also were one
of the team's gutting very hard for Deshaun Watson, and
they cleared a good amount of cap space and their
efforts to get to Shaun Watson. But when Watson de
sanity wanted to join the Cleveland Browns, gee, I wonder

(31:21):
why he had about two and thirty million reasons. The Panthers, well,
they were able to bring in some other pieces to
sort of flush out the roster. Uh, they have the
sixth overall pick in the draft coming up here on April,
and they really need to focus on offensive line because
it's a deep offensive line class. And so what does
this mean. It means you're probably, unless I see something different,

(31:43):
they're gonna have to march out Sam Donald under center
again this year. The bad news is Donald unfortunately has
not been the answer for a productive season. Um. Maybe
at some point they trade him for a draft pick
in a deeper quarterback class next year. And I'm not
the I am not the Sam Donald hater that a
lot of people are. I mean, the guy said what

(32:05):
thirty two offensive coordinators his first four years in the league.
He starts out with the Jets. That was a hot
dumpster fire. Don't tell Jason Smith I said that. Uh,
and then he goes to Carolina and and uh, you know,
they started slow and faded. So the long and the
short of it is he's had one foot in the
grave and the other on a banana pill since he
end of the NFL. But until you see proof of performance,

(32:26):
you really can't assume that things are gonna change. So
when you look at the Carolina Panthers over under six wins,
the pros believe they're gonna go under. And if you
think about that objectively, can you really picture the Carolina
Panthers winning seven games next year? Hard to do. And
they're in a pretty tough division. Okay, Um, you know, well,

(32:49):
you got New Orleans, You've got Tampa Bay, you got Atlanta.
Those teams compete. And even though Sean uh, you know,
Peyton's gone. So you've got Houston over four and a
half wins, Kansas City under eleven wins, Cincinnati over ten wins,
in Carolina under six wins. And it's easy to find
these numbers on the various websites of the sports books.

(33:13):
As again, it's never too soon to talk about the
National Football League in any form or fashion. And now
you can get down your bets on the over undering
team totals coming up. Bring you back out to Vegas.
McKenzie Rivers macking on Sports has some interesting numbers on
the women's game coming up between South Carolina and Connecticut.
On Bernie Friderwack comany life in the the Las Vegas Fox

(33:34):
Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to Fox
Sports Sunday and Fox Sports Radio. All right back on
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday, I Bernie Friday, come
to your live for the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
Studios will take you up to three and Pacific sixty
in Eastern Bring it back on to Vegas. Time for
macing on Sports. For McKenzie Rivers and McKenzie there's a

(33:57):
big game on the women's side. Gene Oriama Connecticut South Carolina.
He brought up a good point earlier having to do
with the fact that, you know, the more perceived blue
blood program, the better team is actually an underdog, that
would be South Connecticut. Might that have something to do that?
The fact mackenzie did they lost to South Carolina by

(34:19):
sixteen back in November. Yes, this is a weird reversal
of the David and Goliath type scenario because their plus
one sixty, they're about chance to win the game. Yukon
is in tomorrow's final of the National women's Final, despite
the fact that they're eleven and oh. Historically, Gino ori Ema,
I don't understand why this isn't the most talked about

(34:41):
Staton sports. Bill Russell was eleven and one, and I
know that's that. Michael Jordan's six, and oh, I know
that's that very well. Gino Rima is. Teams Diana Trassi's
suberd all the all the faithful throughout the years have
never lost when they got to the championships. They've lost
eight time. I'm in the final four. He's only eleven
and eight in the final four. A pretty human like record,

(35:04):
but for whatever reason, you kind has never lost it.
Although the odds say there's about a sixty percent chance
that South Carolina three top eleven recruits all came together
from the two thousand nineteen class, they've been building this thing,
best defense in the country. They are on paper the Goliath,
But then you remember this team has never lost a final,
and that kind of kind of makes it a puzzle.

(35:26):
What do you think of Page Beckers. She seems like
this X factor who makes these plays. She's like a
Larry Bird type player. I mean, could she be the
difference in the game by herself. I'm in love with
Page Backer. I'll just admit that right now. Point point Banker,
point blank. You know. I just love to watch her play,
you know, for for lots of reasons. And it's because

(35:47):
that she does have that Bird like I'm talking about
super am, I talking about Larry Bird. Either way, very patient,
very controlled style, and she's a great shooter, but she
doesn't shoot that much if she doesn't need to. Only
fourteen points in a defensive, grind it out win in
the final four. I love her. I'm so glad that
she's playing. She was playing thirteen minutes a game when
she came back from back and resurgery in the winter.

(36:11):
She played forty five minutes in the last game in overtime.
She knew. I mean, she she showed up in a
big way. She's number one in her class. She's supposed
to be in a couple of years when she comes
out the number one recruit. And that's why I could
only look to to Stanford, I mean to Yukon, because yes,
South Carolina has been dominant that three top eleven recruits.
Yukon has the number one recruit, you know in a

(36:33):
while that like Lebron style, like this is the girl
and she's back and she's healthy now and she's bawling out.
So I think, although the stats for this season aren't
as impressive, I would only go with Yukon and page Backers.
And what's interesting, a lot of folks thought that Yukon
was going to lose to Stanford, and they they found
a way. And there's something about Paige Becker's she'll steal

(36:56):
it and take it the other way and lay it
up to a file. She'll draina three. Whatever the case.
Maybe when you start to break down this matchup between
between these two teams, um, you know, South Carolina has
actually got the consensus player of the year in Aliah Boston.
To tell, tell the folks about her, Aliah Boston. Uh,

(37:17):
Diana Troscy made a very funny joke that is inappropriate
for national radio about her length, you know, being a
game cocker. Length was very important in the most recent victory.
But yeah, they're they're dominant they're they're the team. Uh
can't lie. They probably are right as the four point favorites.
Here's the interesting thing. On Friday, you talked about that
Stanford win. Yeah, they were underdogs. Yukon was against Stanford,

(37:39):
they were expected to lose the game. But if you
looked at DraftKings, if you looked at William Hill, and
you looked at the title odds, this was very telling.
Yukon was an underdog in the final four matchup the
semifinal verse Stanford, but they either had the same odds
or better odds to win the championship. That's two things
I think going on. One, it's the brand name. People
that don't even look up the school words or who's playing,

(38:01):
No that Yukon is the team that they've you know,
inn't seen w eleven times in the last few years
plus five years. The other thing is I think experience matters.
I think there is actually a handicapping point where yeah,
they might be slight underdogs to Stanford, but if they win,
if they get over the hump, then they probably have
a good chance to use that in organizational experience to

(38:24):
come through. We haven't seen that in the odds. If
you thought that Yukon would get a major bump up. No,
it actually would have been much better. Would have paid
out about plus four fifty to play the plus one
ten against Stanford kind has the underdog, and then to
parlay that plus one sixty tomorrow would have been a
much better payout than just the three to one. Another

(38:45):
example of a Vegas trick. If you just bet game
by game, those sharper markets are usually gonna give you
more value for your buck. I can't lie. I am
not in any way, shape or form a women's college
basketball expert. I have spent several summers diving deep into
the w n B A you know, if other sports
aren't going on, and I love it. It's it's a

(39:06):
great it's a great game. They really truly have our
masters at their craft. I have a best bet for
you that's not necessarily gambling related. Okay, The Women's National
Basque of the women's tournament, the sixty four teams will
be a staple in the in the sports calendar in
five years. Kaplan Studies had this analysis out. Currently, ESPN

(39:28):
gets paid about thirty four million for a bundle of
women's sports, including the sixty four team bracket. If they
broke that out, and the money says they will, they
could make up to a hundred million dollars per year
right now, a three to four x bump, just if
they said, hey, you know, lacrosse is nice, softball's nice,

(39:49):
but actually this is a million couple million people doubt
viewers per broadcast, per prime time slot, and they should
be treated as such and they should be paid as such,
and now that these studies and these analysis are coming out,
they will be. It all started with one TikTok video
last year showing the men's equipment room and the women's
equipment room at the at the two thousand twenty National Championship,

(40:12):
and people said, that's not really cool. And since then
there's been the real momentum. ESPN has been bumping it
and they've actually been getting the TV ratings that I
think they deserve as the best players in the country.
Good stuff and the tooth of the matters. You will
see real star power on Sunday. Leah Boston six five.
You've got a boxer oute limited touches, two deeper. She is,
She's tough to defend. Meanwhile, Gene Oriama, what they have

(40:34):
they've not seen They've been in every scenario, every situation,
anything you can possibly experience in set a game. It's
gonna be a pretty good matchup. We'll see in an hour. Mackenzie.
All right, coming up, DeShawn Watson. His depositions are under way.
I'll explain. Keep it locked. This is Fox Sports Radio.
The Fox Sports Sunday train keeps rolling right along. I'm

(40:56):
Berdie Frattle. I'm coming to your life from the Las
Vegas Fox Ford Radio Studios. We'll take you up to
three am Pacific, six am Eastern. Got a ton of
stuff to get to and uh, of course I've got
my savvy and capable crew with me, Brian Familey on
the updates, both Benson and Chris Perfett with Eric and
training tonight, and we're gonna call them in and about

(41:18):
fifteen minutes because I want to get their opinion on
the subject that's really come to the forefront of the
NFL offseason, Deshaun Watson and his two hundred and thirty
million dollar contract in the Cleveland Browns. And you're hearing
sort of all these disclaimers and they're getting they're getting
pushed back. But I don't want to spend too much
time on that when I want to focus on and
I'm not going to focus on tonight. As to whether

(41:40):
the Browns underestimated the backlash year be getting, they did.
They I don't know how they couldn't. But here's the deal.
The depositions are now off and running. So Watson is
a busy man. And uh, the depisode of the deposition
testimony to date in the two Deshaun Watson civil cases
whether not subject to any kind of protective order restricting

(42:02):
the released in the media. So as a result, a
portion of watson sworn testimony has been leaked to the media,
per a source with knowledge of the situation. The league,
I think, I don't know for sure, allegedly was made
by lawyer Tony Busby, who represents the twenty two plaintiffs,

(42:23):
And initially they were released in Cleveland. And look, this
is a dirty game, Okay, this is war. Lawsuits are costly,
they are time consuming, and they are not fun. And
these clips that were released were intended to make Watson
look bad. And in one of the clips, they included

(42:46):
an admission from Watson that he didn't tell the Texans
or his personal trainer that he was in fact arranging
private massages through social media, and I wanted to share
this with our sening audience tonight because I thought you
might find an interesting It's out there and some of

(43:06):
these exchanges are are sort of implausible, they're sort of inscrutable.
And here's a sample of one. This is this is real.
This is a recorded, uh, to the best of my knowledge, UH,
a recording of a deposition testimony. I'll just recite it.
I don't have the recording UM having to do with

(43:29):
questions regarding one of these specific besabs therapists. So here's
the question from the the attorney, did you find her attractive?
Watson's reply, that wasn't my intention, sir. The question I
didn't ask you what your intentions were. Answer. I can't

(43:49):
answer that. I have a girlfriend, so that wasn't my intention, sir.
Question So you can't answer that because you have a girlfriend.
Answer because that's not what I was looking for. Question
what did you want from her? Answer? Just a massage? Okay?

(44:11):
You see how this is uncomfortable to listen to and
it feels as if, uh Deshaun Watson is being a
little evasive and can you imagine forty four hours of
that um. Apart from having the fact that having a
girlfriend doesn't prevent Watson from concluding that a given massage

(44:33):
therapist was attractive to him, The quote I have a
girlfriend logic collapses when you consider that his attorney, Rusty Harden,
admitted last April that some of the massage sessions arranged
by Watson became consensual sexual encounters. Now, unless each of
those occurred at a time when Watson didn't have a girlfriend,

(44:54):
than the entire line of question questioning harms his credibility.
This is over real quickly again. Now you know that
did you find her attractive? That wasn't my attention, sir.
I didn't ask you what your intentions were. I can't
answer that. I have a girlfriend, so that wasn't my intention, sir.
So you can't answer that because you have a girlfriend,
because that's not what I was looking for? Came, he answered,

(45:16):
What were you looking for from her? Just a massage?
All right? Now? In these cases Watson's credibility, I feel
that little exchange your harms Watson's credibility a little bit,
just an opinion. Okay, I'm not in the courtroom, I'm
not there part of this. These depositions. But in these cases,

(45:36):
Watson's credibility starts to become very critical because he faces
twenty two civil claims that boiled Tom basically to what
he said, she said, and they're gonna dispute each other's facts.
There were no witnesses in the room. There's no one
there to break the tie. Watson's overall believability has to
be impeccable here. It has to be and that believability

(46:01):
that exchanged to me feels sketchy, just my opinion. I
understand there was a clip link to Fox eight in Cleveland.
It was probably the worst snippet Buzzbeak at Harvest, and
it's problematic, and it's an indication that Watson allowed his
temptation to engage in sword play with the opposing lawyer
to overcome his primary obligation to tell the truth and

(46:25):
respond to each and every question asked and to leave
it to his lawyer to try to secure the victory
based on a record of testimony that if it's coming
from Watson, just he just has to tell the truth.
You know, you see you've watched uh enough TV. I'm
I'm lost shows, right, tell the whole truth and nothing

(46:46):
but the truth. Well, that stot works. If Watson can
be characterized as tolding something other than the truth on
any relevant topic, Guess what happens next. It becomes more
difficult to convince a neutral jury that he's telling the
truth when he denies twenty two different allegations of wrongdoing.

(47:06):
Of course, to be fair, the credibility of the alleged
victims becomes critical too, and to date, their credit, their
their testimony has him been leaked. So, um, this is
going to continue to be goofy theater. Uh. I just
got a tweet from a gentleman named Kevin Webber. Is

(47:28):
there the chance that the NFL office slow rules this
in delays? And he's just mentioned until next year, so
he takes a bigger hit. Um, I don't think that's
going to happen. Uh once he look, he's not Deshaun
Watson is not going to be It appears he will
not be facing any criminal charges. So this is a

(47:50):
civil matter. Number one. The Personal Conduct Policy gives Roger
Goodell a lot of latitude to do what he wants,
whenever wants ever he wants to do it. Watson got
off scott free last year because there was no movement.
Now there's been movement. I don't think Adele Waits. I
think he's looking at a six to eight game suspension

(48:11):
in two Deshaun Watson is which he can appeal and
maybe get it reduced to six or four. I don't know,
but I doubt it would be more than six. I
think it's an almost certainty that the NFL will we'll
take action this year and levy some sort of suspension.
I think there's enough empirical evidence, there's enough anecdotal evidence

(48:35):
in the NFL can be. They have a ton of
resources and a lot of money to investigate things and
look after the rare Rice situation, which I think the
NFL botched. There's still questions and whether or not they
handled the Ben Roethlisberger situation well ten years ago, the
Tyreek Hill situation, and those are things you've probably already
forgotten about, and to a degree, people start to forget

(48:56):
about DeShawn Watson because there's always things, new, new things
in the news cycle, and it's never comfortable to talk
about these things on the radio, just like I talked
about with Coach k I know they're folks out there
probably think I'm going to hell on a scholarship by
sharing some things about coach kid want to hear or
perhaps Deshaun Watson before any of this happened, I understand,
had a very pristine image in Houston and did a

(49:17):
lot of good work in the community. But that goes
out the window now. But back to the key point here,
how does it affect the season? How does it affect
Cleveland season? Clearly the negotiation of his contract where Watson
will only be paid one million dollars in two, which
means he'll only lose about sixty tho per game. Pretty
srreud on Cleveland's part. Well, again, Tom Brady did the
same thing back in when he had the four game

(49:41):
suspension for the Flake Katy restructured his contract so that
the game check per game would be to be the
least in terms of the length of his contract. There's
a larger issue at play here because this two is
going to eventually pass, and frankly, I don't know why
Deshaun Watson doesn't settle this all right, whether or not

(50:01):
that's perceived by the court of public opinion as a
tacit a guilty mission. Okay, fine, people have already made
up their mind anyway. But you need to move past this.
And I think the thought that he's going to get
through this scott free doesn't pass the sniff test with me.
There's going to be repercussions. In the truth of the
matter is this could continue to go on for several

(50:22):
more months. These things move very slowly, and it's not
being it's my understanding, it's not being filed as a
clash action suit. These are individual lawsuits. They're going to
be adjudicated individually. And remember, uh, only thirteen of them
brought criminal charges. Nine didn't. So I think the third
team that brought criminal charges might carry a harder you know, uh, drive,

(50:42):
a harder bartner than the nine. It didn't. But I'm
all over the map here. I don't know what's gonna
happen there. Again, the larger question to me is is
how does this affect the relative success that Cleveland Browns
are looking to have? My god, two or thirty million
dollars guaranteed? Did they really need to do that? I
guess did to get him to Cleveland. But you're trying
to say, is paying the bad tax to go to

(51:03):
Cleveland that's a good roster. They really are pretty close
to winning. But there's something about the psychodynamic of this
whole deal that leads me to believe it's gonna be
such a huge distraction mess that I'm going to question
whether this is gonna work. I don't think it's gonna
work this year. I don't know if it will work
any year coming up. I want to bring in the
crew and get their thoughts because this is a multi layer,

(51:25):
multi fascinated situation. Okay, if Cleveland doesn't get to a
super Bowl, I'll give him this. They don't. They might
not win a super Bowl, but they don't get to
a super Bowl with just Shaun Watson. They don't have
a first round draft pick for the next three years,
two uter and thirty million dollars guaranteed, which, by the way,
it happens to be eighty million dollars more than Aaron
Rodgers is getting, by ninety million dollars more guaranteed than

(51:47):
Packed my Home's getting. A couple of pretty good quarterbacks
have actually won super Bowls. If this doesn't result in
a super Bowl for Cleveland, I think they're gonna have
hang on their face. I really do. And there's no
telling what this stadium is gonna look like or what
backlash in the public relations hit department they're gonna take
when the season actually starts. So when I bring in
the crew, we're gonna try to tackle this and check

(52:09):
all the boxes from the multiple angles, because this is
not a one dimensional story, is I'm sure you know.
I'm Bernie Fredder, Were Comedy Live from the Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked right here. You're
listening to Fox Sports Sunday and Fox Sports Radio. Well

(52:39):
we're back on Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio on
Bernie FRADDERI Company Alive from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Studios. We'll take you after three and Pacific six.
And he's doing a lot to get to tonight, including
in the final hour will kind of brand new fool
of you what my name and Christopher Freen's world is soccer.
But first I want to bring in the crew. Let
me reset this we're talking about to Shaun Watson and uh,

(53:02):
let's face facts here, because nine days ago the Browns
introduced Shaun Watson at a press conference. So I thought
the introduction went horribly that I had met u net
Mrs Lincoln House the play Watson didn't have answers prepared
for what was I would consider a very sensitive line
of questioning. Neither did the team. You knew, damn well,

(53:23):
this was gonna be about football. The Browns and Watson
would have preferred that, but I thought they come and
came off looking very clunky. And every fan and media people,
they know what watsonon do on the field. It's the
longstanding issues off the field and the lack of what
has perceived as closure and this civil issue. And let's
not forget the Browns also treated a complete war chest

(53:44):
of draft picks for Watson, gave him the richest contract
in the history of football, and even Andrew Barry. I mean,
they're they're defending themselves, even since we understand the opportuites
of it. Uh well you do really And by the way,
um well, I'm gonna say this for a second, bringing
the crew, um Watson just I just got a text

(54:05):
like in the last five minutes. Apparently, Deshaun Watson tried
to amp up the Cleveland Browns fan base by posting
an Instagram story showcasing it. He put pictures of the
the very many types of jersey styles that the Cleveland
Browns will be wearing this year, and he's gonna wear
number four. That's his number. And he might have thought

(54:28):
it through a little bit better because as part of
the array of jerseys, he actually included in Atlanta Falcons
jersey that in the group to the Cleveland brown fans,
so that you know, that went over like a fart
in church. They don't want to see that. And by
the way, I've also found out that the Falcons were
having to defend their interests in Deshaun Watson just regarding

(54:48):
his issues, and they didn't need to sign him. So
this may be a real dumpster fire. I don't know.
Let's see, let's bring in the crew, Chris taking wherever
you want, because there's lots of ways to respond to this.
But the basic premise in the question is it's just
going to backfire for the Browns. I think short term
it will backfire. I think, um, well, if nothing else,

(55:12):
the pr hit is going to be pretty big. I
don't know if they expect this to blow over. If
you remember, Ben Roethlisberger had his share of problems for
a long time during his career, and that really looked
very bad for a lot of different people he had.
I mean, both both you know, his own lawsuit, plus um,

(55:32):
you know the motorcycle incident everything, but that all got
smoothed over. Everyone kind of treats Ben Roethlisberger as the
bed of roses that he's on. I I don't know
if the Browns expected to kind of have this all
blow over like like that for de Shawn. I think
the backlash, though, is a little bit different in this
day and age that it is severe enough that it's

(55:53):
it's probably look at the climate we're in, go ahead,
it is is very are different. There's a lot more
voices from people who are who have been victims in
this space, and I think we we give a lot
more of a voice to those victims, as we rightly should,
and there's a lot more understanding that the legal systems

(56:13):
for victims has a lot of flaws holes in it
that just that the the preponderance of evidence just makes
these kind of criminal cases so hard to bring home
and the will of people involved to bring them home.
And I don't have any You know that this is
frustrating because every time I bring this up, you know,
from my personal platform, it's always well, what how would
you solve it? If I had those answers, I would

(56:35):
not be working as a technical producer in sports talk radio.
I'll be getting a much better job in some legal
avenue somewhere. Trust me, believe me. I I wish I
was that smart. I don't have those answers, but I
know when there's something fishy. And unfortunately for Deshaun Watson,
he's the next biggest example of this. And for sports,
there's always been this idea that sports will overcome all

(56:58):
and will eventually get back to it. And maybe that true.
Maybe two years, three years down the line, everyone forgets
about this, we're all in Like a lot of people
who are criticizing to Sean today can help being awe
of his plays another day, but for right now, I
think it'll blow up in their face. I don't know
if it's big enough to tarnish the shield right now,
especially given uh this situation brewing in Washington right now

(57:23):
that might be getting with Snyder with Dan Snyder like
I don't know if you saw the news today, but
it might be some really big skeletons there. So I
don't know if it's as all part of the same swamp.
Here's the thing, Yeah, it's because let me jump in.
All I want to say is this is that Deshaun
wantson the man will have his opportunity to reconstruct his image.

(57:44):
This is America, okay, And he's a world class athlete.
And there's an a whole factor in sports. The better
player you are, the big a hole you can be.
But there's like a sliding scale. I got. I'm holding
my right hand up and my left hand down, and
in my left hand is the whole factor. In my
right hand is the talent factor. Eventually, the talent has
to produce or the a whole factor rises. Now, Tyreek

(58:07):
Hill overcame it because he's a world class athlete. Ray
Rice couldn't overcome it because he could no longer help
the Baltimore Ravens. They're banking on the Shawn Watson to
win a Super Bowl. So let's flip this to part B. Chris,
I know it's gonna be rough first year, there's just
no two ways about it. But then the Dustal Settle,
let's flip I don't I just have this funny feeling

(58:27):
Cleveland's never gonna win a Super Bowl with this guy? No,
I I mean I bet against it. The a f
C is kind of stacked up the way it is
right now, it's a very rough It's a very rough conference.
In the a f C North is still a rough division.
I know that it's kind of a little bit down,
especially with all the accolades being given to the a
f C West, but this is still a rough division.

(58:47):
Nothing is given. And Cleveland's window has been opened for
a while and I don't know how long it will
stay open. Obviously, they want to keep it open with
Deshaun Watson, and they want to keep you know, going
back to the playoffs, but it's still a long shot
for them. I'm not going to use the history against
the Browns. I'm not gonna say they're gonna fail because
they're the Browns, but look at that competition in their

(59:09):
Pittsburgh's not gonna stay down. The Ravens are still gonna
have Lamar Jackson, the Bengals are gonna still keep building
around Joe Burrow. There's no guarantee they even keep making
the playoffs. This was a lot of this. Getting to
Shaun was a lot of keeping up with the Joneses.
But DeShawn, for all of his talent, and there were
some good players within Houston. It never really went went

(59:29):
any place. So if if Cleveland starts not going places
with Deshaun Watson, I think you're right, the a whole
factor will rise and people will question him because it
doesn't matter how good he will be as a quarterback.
All you all we care about of you as a
quarterback is is uh sorry, let me let me try
speaking English. The only thing we care about you as
a quarterback is is your team winning games. Thoughts you know, Bernie,

(59:55):
I was surprised that they let Deshaun Watson talk in
that press. Friends, I thought, I know, I know, but
it doesn't look great. I know they had to because
they probably would have gotten a lot of heat. But
some of the questions that were thrown I I was
really interested to hear, and I don't think we got
a great response on this one. Somebody through the question

(01:00:16):
at the I think it was coach to Fanski, but
it maybe would have gone to Andrew Berry as well,
about what would your spouse or significant other say to
you about bringing on Deshaun Watson knowing what you know
he has been caught doing and found doing, knowing that

(01:00:36):
what we know. And they didn't really have an answer, Bernie.
They were pivoting. I found that interesting to think about.
You know, you're in the front office of the Cleveland
Browns and let's say you're telling your wife what's happening.
I don't know if they were completely forthright with perhaps
what their significant others thought. And I thought that was

(01:00:57):
an interesting perspective. Where where when is seemingly on the mind.
And I don't know, I just I wish there was
any other one. Bernie was where he in. Watson was
asked why so many massage therapists and then he says
something about social media. Oh, that was the dumbesst answer. Yeah,
my generation, we're like, okay, you know, do you have

(01:01:17):
one dentist or forty dentist? You have one lawyer of
forty lawyers? Right, that was so stupid. You're right, Brian,
I mean that it doesn't pass the sniff test. It doesn't.
That made no sense to me. And I'm not really
sure what he was going out there. I know he said,
I can't really talk say this is normal behavior for me.
You know, you're not smart like we are in this generation. Look,
he reached out through Instagram and across state, multiple states. Right,

(01:01:42):
we don't need to read we can't live. The bottom
line is you're you're adding another dimension. How I understand
this could affect the coaching staff too. Those guys got
a home and answer their wife what are you thinking?
And it comes back to I think adding additional pressure
on the field, which Cleveland doesn't need. Uh, Bull Benson,
what are your thoughts on this? Sorry? Uh, Chris and

(01:02:09):
Chris and Brian really covered it all. I mean, DeShawn,
I'm surprised he spoke as well. I know he had to,
but I'm surprised to let him speak. Um and you know,
I don't. I don't know. It's just the NFL is
a business there, it's not a moral compass um. I
think we've used that quote before, where if Hannibal elector

(01:02:30):
could run a you know, Okay, so let's hold that thought.
If HANDI elect Hannibal elector could play quarterback like DeShawn,
someone's probably gonna sign him. Yeah, soul, does that translate
to wins? You expect Cleveland to be in the Super
Bowl during I mean, did anybody? I I can't say
that because it's random. I mean, I think they're going
to be a very good team. I think Deshawn's gonna

(01:02:52):
throw five touchdowns against the Steelers in one game, and
everybody's gonna forget about the allegations against him, because that's
how our society has always worked when it comes to sports.
But I mean, I I could see them making a
Super Bowl. I don't know if they're going to just
because you know, the Bengals made a Super Bowl this
year and nobody saw that coming. So but there's something
about the DNA there. It's a shame. Cleveland such a

(01:03:14):
great town. I think you guys see the dynamic here.
It's wide ranging, and you all three agreed he shouldn't
have talked. That's very that's that is very revealing in
and of itself. But man, it would have been a
lot worse if they had kept him under wraps. Your
quarterback is your face of your team and oftentimes the
face of the city. Speaking of the face of golf,
I am predicting this gentleman will be teeing off Thursday,

(01:03:38):
and we all hope he does. I'll give you the
details behind what I know and what maybe a nice
pleasant surprise for the masters is. It's that time of year. Thursday, Magnolia,
Magnolia Lane and Augusta Georgia. The Masters will tee off
and we think this gentleman against some pretty significant odds,
will be there. But first let's go to the gentlemen

(01:04:00):
who again a man of wisdom. I asked him the
other day and do you think Chris Rock should have
slapped Will Smith back? And he says, you know, Bernie,
two wrongs don't make it right, but two rights man
an airplane. It's Brian Fhiley with the latest Bernie. Yes,
the rights did make the airplane. And we'll talk about
a little bit of the golf. There is an event
happening this week before the Masters, and we'll touch on

(01:04:23):
that in a moment. But let's get to the college basketball.
The final four from Saturday, the two big games, and
number eight North Carolina continues on with this run led
by first year head coach Hubert Davis says, they get
the job done, sticking it to their rival number two
Duke eighty one to seventies seven. So in unceremonious end

(01:04:43):
for coach k the head coach for the boot Devils,
that would be the final game of his career. The
North Carolina tar Heels will now face off against number
one Kansas and Bill self that game, of course. On Monday,
after the Jayhawks beat number two Villanova and Jay Wright
one to sixty five. David McCormick had twenty five points

(01:05:04):
for KU. In the NBA, the Nets they got fifty
five points from Kevin Duran and if I told you
they lost, they did, and they fell to the Hawks
one two to one fifteen. The Warriors lock up a
playoff berth after they control the Jazz one to one
oh seven. The Heap overwhelmed the Bulls one seven to

(01:05:27):
one oh nine. Jimmy Butler had twenty two points, Joel
m b twenty nine along with fourteen rebounds at a
seventy six or win against the Hornets to one fourteen,
and the Calves get the job done against the Knicks
one nineteen to one oh one. Brandt Snedeker is in
the midst of a four way tie with a one

(01:05:47):
stroke lead at the Texas Open, which is the tournament
that will proceed the Master starting on Thursday. And we've
got NASCAR are back on Fox Television again later on today.
It's from Richmond three thirty p m. Eastern time. Ryan
Blaney has the poll as we work it back to
a man who I think tease some golf news. Let's

(01:06:10):
swing it back to our man in Las Vegas, Bernie Frido.
Thanks Brian. Before I get to my master's update, Bull
Benson want to give a chance to finish his thought
on DeShawn Watson. Go ahead, boll, I just I mean,
what Deshaun is accused of is reprehensible, and I don't
think he should be playing football, but I mean he's

(01:06:31):
going to. It's the unfortunate reality. And you know, Ben
Roethlisberger in five years is going to get a gold
carpet on his way to getting a gold jacket and
a bust in the Hall of Fame. Where we were
all very quick to dismiss what you know, jamis what
happened with Jamison, Florida State every you know, most teams
across sports. I mean, the Dodgers forever preached about how

(01:06:53):
they wanted stand up guys in their clubhouse, and you know,
character matters, and then as soon as they have a
chance to sign you know, Trevor Hour because he want
to stay young, they hopped at the opportunity while he
wasn't accused of anything. I mean, if you followed Trevor
Bauer's attitude and the way he speaks on social media.
I don't think him getting into some kind of trouble
was a far fetched idea. So I just you know,

(01:07:15):
with the de Shaun stuff, it's gonna it's a bad
look right now. But I do think ultimately it's just
gonna blow over. And people have short memories, and you know,
as if the Browns win, then it's gonna be forgotten
to time, and uh, it'll be something that opposing opposing
fans pull out when you know the Browns beat them.
But I don't think the general public is really gonna

(01:07:36):
care fair enough. It's gonna be rough sledding. It's a
twenty four new cycle. There will be new things. This
will fade into the into the senset like other things do.
I I brought it up from this standpoint, and I
do not advocate not denying the man a living. I've
merely said I don't think it's gonna work. And if
Cleveland doesn't get to the super Bowl, then this will
be a disaster, all right, A gentleman who came back

(01:07:59):
from the ashes more than once. Tiger Woods. Uh, what's
interesting about the Masters this week is this is the
twenty fifth anniversary of Tiger Woods coming on party when
in when the Masters by sixteen strokes. It's been five
hundred days since he competed in the PGA event. But
when you look at Tiger Woods, there are two things.

(01:08:20):
There are two adjectives. I would describe him with sheer
will and determination. And I went on a Sunday show
with Aaron Torris and George Rice to about a year ago.
Tiger got in the accident in February of one, and
they asked me if I thought he'd played again. I said,
it's not only a possibility, it's a probability. Ben Hogan
came back from his car accident. The resilience of Tiger

(01:08:41):
Woods is unreal. And yes, he's coming back from serious
leg and foot injuries from the carruct fourteen months ago.
But on Tuesday he played eighteen holes at Augusta. Okay,
I've been on that course when I was there in
I've walked it. It's very undulating. The concern was the
up and down hills a tiger be able to sustain it. Well.

(01:09:02):
He played Riviera two weeks ago and there are much
bigger hills there, and he not only navigated it. He
didn't hear any bad news now tiggers you know he
can be a little koy, and then who blames him
Back On February six, he says, I wish I could
tell you what I'm playing. My golf activity has been limited.
I can chick and put, but really don't hit shots
and irons very well, and haven't tried the long stuff.
I'm working on the walking part. My foot was a

(01:09:23):
little missed up. But watch watch him show up, watch him.
I believe he'll be there. Uh And I'm not predicting
he's gonna win it, or he might not even make
the cup, but the fact that he's back will be
good because we'll all be tuning in to see what happens.
And Tiger, to me has become the epitome poster child
for the best example of success, and that is you

(01:09:44):
can't really control what happens to you in life, but
you can't control how you react. And Tiger had a
somewhat similar situation. It's analogous to Deshaun Watson and February
or Thanksgiving a twenty nine and the costume is marriage.
But he's completely remade his image. I think people really
root for him and three years ago now when he

(01:10:04):
when he he won the Masters and he was there
to share it with his children. That was an amazing
television moment and it's one of the more iconic moments
in sports history. And that's what Tiger's built to do.
And so I I'd be shocked if he doesn't play Thursday,
and all the evidence and the people I've talked to
what we expect to happen. God forbid, he doesn't slip

(01:10:24):
on a banana peel in the next couple of days
or something crazy. I think you're gonna see Tiger at
augusta Thursday. And I gotta tell you, Tiger, he's been
three decades now, sen me Stanford joining the tour, taking
the world by storm. Uh In n Um. I was
at the TPC event in Deerborn, Michigan. I hope. I'm

(01:10:47):
sure Chris perfect knows what That course is a beautiful
course and deer one of the old they don't have
they they don't have tournaments there anymore. But I got
to interview Jack Nicholas. It was really funny. It was
a Sunday night, it was dark, it was like probably
like late July August. There's only a few of us,
and I asked him a simple question. Remember this is nineteen,

(01:11:10):
I asked Jack, I said, as Tiger Wood is gonna
break all your records? By the way, you know what
I hate as I hate when people give speeches and
then they asked their questions. You know about in I
hear guys doing that on the radio. Bucks a hell
out of me. Let the guests be the guests asked
the damn question to get the hell all the way
and give your speech later. Simple five, Where I would
Tiger break your records? He looked at me and says, yeah,

(01:11:32):
but he's still gotta do it. What a profound answer
and what he meant by that? He paused, He says, yeah,
He's still gotta do it because I want to see
what his I want to see what his life looks
like when he's married, had kids, and had his first
major injury well ten years later. How prescient was Jack Nicholas.
He had two kids, he had multiple injuries, knee, back,
et cetera. And then he had the real debacle and

(01:11:56):
that turned everything upside down. And I think Tiger, proud
of that, was probably on track to still catch Jack.
Jack eight eight teen Majors. We still has a teen majors.
Tiger had fourteen. He got his fifteen and at at
the Master's three years ago. Uh, And so this is
going to be a real thing to see. I just

(01:12:16):
don't think Tiger goes through all this preparation, puts himself
through what I consider to be a couple of very
legitimate dress rehearsals. If you get my drift, the hills
at Rivieria, playing the eighteen holes of Augusta to not
give it a whirl. Now, he may get on the
course Thursday. The body might not hold up. I don't know.

(01:12:37):
He may play Thursday and Friday and not make the cut.
I don't know. But because Tigers won the Masters, he's
got a lifetime exemption. He's already on the docket to play.
They'll be signing tea times here and they'll probably match
him up with someone favorable. Now he may be on
the range five minutes before he tees off and decline.

(01:12:58):
I don't know, but I don't think so. I really
think you're gonna see Tiger. Uh. In terms of in
the last month, he talks specifically about working on his strength,
his development, and how it takes time and he said,
he admitted it's not at his timetable and he wants
to be at a certain place, but he's not. But
what does Tiger do? He continues working. If you really

(01:13:18):
want to know why Tiger got so good, he'd go
out on a tournament and then he go hit a
thousand balls after the tournament. The guy's amazing, he really is.
And I in much the same way we think that
Shaun Watson can heal his public persona and come back
and maybe have success. It's pretty clear Tiger has I
don't know anybody who doesn't want to see Tiger at

(01:13:39):
the Masters on Thursday as part of this group, and
I'm betting that we are. As a matter of fact,
there's a line here in Vegas. It's even money what
Tiger play, Yes or no, it's even money, and I
think it's fair. But frankly, I think Tiger is a
favorite to play. We shall see. I wouldn't bet against
this guy. He's uh, he's past several rubicons right now.

(01:14:02):
Just to get to this point. Coming up, we'll bring
you back out to Vegas. Backing on sports, Mackenzie rivers
he will have three NBA best bets for the Sunday Slate.
Be curious to see if any of those games involves
the Lakers, but we'll get to that here. Coming up
on Bernie Froddill come to your life from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Keep it locked right here.

(01:14:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Sunday and Fox Sports Radio.
Well right back on Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Bernie Frottole Company live from Las Vegas, Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Let's bring you back out to Las Vegas.
Mackenzie Rivers joins Macking on Sports. It's this time every

(01:14:47):
week he gives his best three NBA bets for Sunday
and McKenzie before you take it away, just give me
a spoiler alert to any of them involved the Denver
Lakers game. Yes, I want to start right there, if
I may go ahead. So, the Nuggets have been an
elite first half team. They were number one differential how

(01:15:11):
they expect to score in the first and second half
if you isolate just the first half last year, in
the top five this year. So I like the Nuggets
minus one and a half in the first half to
call Yoki was an underdoguent m VP to start the
start the week on Monday. Now he's minus two hundred.
He's been continuing to excel. But let me talk about
the Lakers. I could not believe this that when I

(01:15:32):
saw it. I know the Lakers have been playing bad.
I know they lost to the Pelicans twice this week.
I couldn't believe it. So there's thirty teams in the league.
If you look at the net rating, which is how
good are they're scoring, how good are they stopping teams
from scoring per a hundred possessions? So pace doesn't matter,
how fast you play doesn't matter. There's two teams that

(01:15:53):
are worse than the Los Angeles Lakers since the beginning
of March. One of them is the Portland Trailblazers. If
you've been following the NBA, have been historically bad. They're
not playing their starting point guard, shooting guard, center, and
by the way, their backup point guard. And for any
assignments that was supposed to be the second coming, they
shelped them, they said you can play next year. Okay,

(01:16:15):
they've been worse. And the Oklahoma City Thunder, who have
benched and rested all of their players, have been worse.
Every other team in the League, the Pistons, the Magic
I'm going to talk about in a second. The Rockets,
who have been historically bad defensively, somehow have been better
on a statistical basis than a team with that one,
not too but three Hall of famers. I know they

(01:16:36):
only recently got all three back. I can't believe that.
Just it just blows my mind. And justifiably Portland's seven
and fifty okay, SE's twenty two and fifty five will
move on. But I was baffled by this line. Because
Denver's actually playing for something tomorrow or the Sunday today,
they can move off from the sixth to the fourth slot.

(01:16:57):
The Lakers, I mean they look like can drawn across
the Gunicey Street. You're only catching three and a half.
Hopefully Denver gets out of the gate quick. I'm with you,
not your next bet. Absolutely, I'm going to the Orlando Magic.
I'm gonna fade him. I'm gonna with the New York
Knicks minus four and a half at the Orlandic Magic. Look,
New York's lost their last two games, you know, the

(01:17:18):
sense off the rows or whatever. I think both of
the losses are very explainable, and I think They've been
a top ten team the last month and the magic.
Like I've said, bottom five team the whole year and
the last month. So the Knicks lost their last two games.
I think both are explainable. They lost to the Hornets.
My explanation. You can't win every game. They were on
a five game winning streak. They've been playing great. Hornets

(01:17:40):
are a playoff team or aspiring to be. They beat
him the next game. Something happened in between where the
New York Knicks had been eliminated from the playoffs. Are
J Bell brought me onto the team. I hear straight
out of Vegas has been saying this for years before
I got here. This was a dream crusher game. New
York Knicks had gone eight years without making the playoffs.

(01:18:02):
They finally did it last year. Things were going way
off the rails to start most of this year, but
after the All Star Break, R J. Barrett was playing
out of his shoes. They won five games in a row.
Like I said, everything looked up. The miracle of them
coming back to make the playoffs was in sight. Nope,
they lose by fifteen to the Hornets. That dream is dead.
Then they got a round out and go to Cleveland
playoff playoff team. Again, they weren't up for it. They

(01:18:24):
lost by eighteen. Totally explainable to me, Totally makes sense.
I didn't downgrade him, And I think the Magic are
just not of a caliber of a team that can
be within five points. So I'm gonna take the Knicks
minus four and a half tomorrow at Orlando. And what's
interesting the Knicks, you're better on the road through eighteen
against the spread on the road, and Orlando is just

(01:18:45):
a hot dumpster fire. Okay, who's your third bet? Yeah?
And historically Madison Square Garden has been good for the
road team and not the New York Knicks, where they
have been better on the road. For my third kick,
I'm gonna go with the Super Bowl? Super Bowl? Am
I talking about? Im gonna go to the NBA title
favorites to R. J. Bell and A. J. Hoffen kind
of co bet co best bet on Friday for their

(01:19:07):
title odds. I think you know they're playing out the string. Obviously,
they're almost locked into the number one seed. I think
they have sneaky motivation here. Chris Paul has not lost
to his former team Oklahoma City since coming to Phoenix.
Big number. Yes, fourteen is a huge number, and I
don't want to lay it, so I'm gonna isolate where

(01:19:28):
the thunder have been worse. They've been the worst team
in the league by far, They've been the worst team
in the league in a lot of stats anyway, but
in the first half of their negative scoring margin is accountable,
So I'm gonna isolate that first half. It's still a
big number, but it reduces from fourteen and a half
to eight. I think Phoenix Suns start out the gate grade.
They're off to a t s losses. They're off a

(01:19:50):
rare straight up loss at Memphis. I think they come
out motivated. Chris Paul leads the guys to at least
a double digit lead at halftime. That's why. Yeah, it's
a steep number, but in the first half, you want
to isolate that, and I think Sons minus eight in
the first half is a great bet. Okay, I see, Okay,
so your your son's minus state in the first half,
they could they can run Okay See off the floor,

(01:20:11):
and like the last few weeks when we've had Okay
See with a big number at home, they've backdoor it
every time. Remember, yes, I know you gotta remind me
twice alright, and I think the Suns will start out
even better in the first half. Appreciate it, Thank you guys.
All right, thanks Mackenzie. So we got okay, see, he's
got okay see or check that he's got Phoenix first

(01:20:32):
half and he's got the Knicks and uh and we're
gonna fade the Lakers. All right? Coming up? What kind
of brand new fool are you? And what my name?
Keep it locked? This is Bernie Frattle. You're listening to
Fox Sports Sunday and Fox Sports Radio. The Fox Sports
Sunday train keeps rolling right along. Three Allen one to go.
We'll take after three am Pacific, six TM Eastern, and

(01:20:55):
this is the rock is crazy fun part of the show.
A lot to get to. We'll have Chris Perfet's World
of Soccer coming up here at the bottom of the hour. Uh,
right after Brian Familey's update, We're gonna get to the
NFL overtime rule amendment here, which really made big news
this week. But first we've got to get to much
more important stuff because every week, across this great land

(01:21:20):
of ours and even around the world, people engage in
behaviors that we routinely referred to as being what kind
of brand new fool are you? Fool? Are you? So?

(01:21:41):
This week for me is a bit of an innocuous one,
but it's also what I've considered to be a very
obvious one. So there's a country musician who I understand
is very popular. It goes by the name of Eric Church,
and he had a concert tonight scheduled for his legions
of very intent loyal fans for San Antonio, Texas, except

(01:22:04):
for one thing. He canceled it because it's beloved North
Carolina tar Heels were playing in the semifinal game in
New Orleans, and you know you can't be two places
at once. So he does what I think is the
wow it almost swore, the dishonorable thing, cancels the concert
to tell his fans he cannot miss he cannot be

(01:22:25):
there because he just he got missed, because he really
believes the North Carolina tar Heels are gonna win. Well,
what kind of brand new fool you for going back
on your obligation? And I'll tell you why. It gets
even worse. North Carolina did win. You thought they were
gonna win. You could have had the concert tonight and
going to the final game Monday. Because I checked your
concert schedule you don't have another concert until April eight.

(01:22:51):
You could have gone Monday since you thought they were
gonna win and saw your beloved tar Heels win the
national championship, possibly which I guess you you're gonna tell
me you still are going to do. But be that
as it may. You left the legions of fans in
the lurch, although I do understand since then you've now
offered a free concert, But what about the four people
that came out on town or you needed time off

(01:23:11):
work or adjusted their schedules. They may not be able
to go. All I gotta say is, dude, come on man,
you left legions of fans in the lurch. I don't
think it's right. Eric Church, What kind of brand new
fool are you? Chris Perfett I kind of disagree there,
if only because as someone with tar Heel blood in me,
I understand the religion. But I digress. I'm gonna take you,

(01:23:33):
Bernie to uh the commentary pages. Usually, if someone is
posting something, is writing something an op ed, they're already
putting themselves out to the world. But someone in London
had an experience we had to share, and I think
this is a case of oversharing a little bit too much.
Hannah Born Taylor, in the pages of the Guardian paper

(01:23:54):
from the United Kingdom, wrote about how she had relocated
to Lon and her husband took a job in Ghana.
Her visa did not allow her to move to Ghana,
so she had to stay in London and rightly so,
I understand you feel isolated, you feel lonely, but what
happens next is probably not the step to take. Where

(01:24:15):
she recounts in the page of the Guardian how she
found a young fledgling of a bronze winging mannequin finch,
barely a month old, on the ground. He was abandoned
by his flock, his nest blown from the mango tram
reading directly from her. So what what does she do?
She takes this bird and decides to have him nest

(01:24:35):
in her hair. She feeds her him for eighty four
days and this is again from her column. For the
next eighth four days, the fledging live with me. On
with me, we became inseparable. He would fly alongside me
or cling to me as I went from room to
room in my house. While we walked the grasslands or
when I drove. Now, I don't think this is really

(01:24:55):
true of a bird, but I'm not here to quibble
with it either way. I don't think you you that
we have any other word for someone who allows a
bird to nest in their hair for eighty four days
rather than taking any other kind of sensible approach other
than brand new fool man. I don't even know where

(01:25:16):
to go with that one. Man. All right, Chris, good stuff,
Brian family, your next, Yeah, Bernie. We saw the reports
from April first about Hope Solo, the former United States
women's national team goalkeeper, and in the news again and
for all the wrong reasons. This was a police report

(01:25:36):
and they said that, well, first of all, they arrested
her in North Carolina. Why did they arrest her because
she was passed out behind the wheel of a car
with her two two year olds, and they're twins, And
essentially she was passed out, she had over the blood

(01:25:57):
alcohol limit that is allowable in terms of driving impaired.
Ended up being charged as well with resisting a public
officer and is being charged with misdemeanor child of abuse.
One witness said that Solo was passed out behind the
steering wheel for an hour while the car was still running,

(01:26:18):
and the two children in the back seat, mind you,
they're two year olds and they're twins. And an officer
came by and could smell the alcohol, and Solo refused
to take a sobriety test, but then had her blood taken.
They found out that yes, she was under the influence,
and now she is going to have to face an

(01:26:41):
upcoming court date. Bernie, just not a very good look
for someone who had done so many great things on
the soccer field and stupid things. She's got a party
of work, dude, I'm telling you, hope, Solo is a
piece of work. I and if every time I if,
if if every time I heard a story about like
this at a nickel for every time, I'd have my

(01:27:02):
own private yacht access. Do you everything else on this, Brian?
Or we did? We good? Bernie? We are good? I
think let's get to Bo Benson. Bo always has a
very clever, funny what kind of brand new fool you? Yeah?
Maybe not this week? Um, after the Lakers blew another lead,
and that's funny, it is funny. Actually, Um, you know what,

(01:27:23):
Actually I am going to say this, Uh, my brand
new fool this week is anybody that wishes to see
this Lakers team make the play in. Uh, please don't
subject anybody to that. Nobody deserves to see that. Nobody
wants to see that. It would be a disaster and
it would not be fun for any party involved. So
please do not hope for the Lakers to make the

(01:27:44):
play in. That would be uh, just just a sad
state of affairs all around. Do you really mean that?
Because if if look, you and I, you and I
both know this team, they're going nowhere, Bernie, the sooner
I can stop watching Laker games the better. No, no more, Please,
I can't do this anymore. I was gonna say my
brand new fool is uh Russell Westbrook and his his

(01:28:08):
shot at Laker fans on on Friday. But really it's
it's anybody who thought that Westbrook in l a was
going to work. I think that's also there. This whole
season is just a bunch of a bunch of fools,
and uh in Los Angeles, it's a predictable disaster. By
the way, Russell Westbrook paid forty four million this year

(01:28:29):
on the books for forty seven million next year. Yeah,
but next year he's at least Russell Russell Westbrook's expiring contract.
So there's that. So you've got that. So there, so
there's that. It's a Sunday Days Ahead sort of. We
haven't talked a lot about winning time on this on
this show, but we're going to start in the next
couple of weeks, because man, if you're not watching it,

(01:28:50):
it's it's pretty good. Uh, it's it's harsh. Yeah, I've
I've been watching that, so we we can definitely talk
about it. We'll definitely talk about that, alright. Another rousing
addition of what kind of brand new fool are you
is in the books, which leads us to the second
favorite segment across America, the second favorite dance and station
sweeping the nation. That is what my name? All Right,

(01:29:14):
here we go. You know how it works. I gave
you the circumstances. We'll see who can guess. The crew
has done pretty well on this contest, all right. That's
sticking with the sticking with the March Madness theme. On
this day, I held a Chemo laja wan to ten
points and my team beat Houston and five Slammy Jamma

(01:29:37):
for the n c A Basketball championship. Chris Pofett, what
my name? So sorry? It's the player, coach? Player? I held?
I held want to ten points? I was gonna say
I always got to go NC State. I don't even
know if it's the right year, but I was gonna
say Nancy State. Okay, just for giggles, it was a three.

(01:30:01):
Michael George. Sorry, sorry, all good, I'm sorry, all right?
On this d I held a Chemo la Juan to
ten points? Is my team beat the Houston Cougars for
the national championship. Brian Fairley, what my name, Bernie? I'm
gonna guess. Patrick Ewing? Look at you. You're just showing

(01:30:23):
off now, Okay, Well usually ball is the one, so
we're gonna start with ball on the next one. Well,
we'll loop it around, all right. The nine you and
V running rebels on this stage beat Duke one oh
three to seventy three to capture the first UH basketball
championship for U and l V, and I was named

(01:30:46):
the Outstanding Player of the tournament. Bull Benson, what my name?
Grant Hill? You me, you get me every time? But
I didn't. I didn't know that grand Hill played for
you and LV. But I learned something new every week.

(01:31:06):
All right, let me try that again. In English Running Rebels,
we beat Duke on this day seventy three, win the championship,
and I was named most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
Chris POFECT What my name, Uh, Larry Johnson. That's not

(01:31:27):
that's pretty good. Guess it's actually Anderson Hunt. Anderson Hunt,
who's from Detroit and went out to have a very
successful real estate career. Wait a minute, I'm sorry, and
I was about to say we didn't get too family. Family. Okay,
I'll tell you what. Let's start over. Running Rebels. We
won one oh three to seventy three, and I won

(01:31:48):
the Most Valuable Player Outstanding Player for the tournament. Brian Family.
What my name Stacy Odman? Yes, no, Anderson Hunt. Were
you just playing with me there? Brian is gonna give
you a lap there, buddy. Well, I wasn't sure if
you were being serious with Anderson, but yeah, you were
so actually wasn't. Well, No, good on you. You got

(01:32:10):
Stacy Am I mean he got Larry Johnson and uh,
you know those are two of the guys. Larry. Stacy
went on to have a great career in the Atlanta
Hawks and Larry Johnson with the Knicks. And you don't
you have to do? Is you mentioned Larry Johnson to
Jason maybe this week? Uh? He had a pretty good
career with the Knicks. He did, actually, Grandmama, remember, Grandmama,

(01:32:32):
I don't those commercials? All right, we move along. Two
thousand twelve, are gonna start with Bull again. Go We're
gonna go through the loop again. Two thousand and twelve.
We beat the Kansas Jayhawks to win the national championship,

(01:32:52):
and I was named the out standing player of the tournament.
Bull Benson, what my name say? Uh? Memphis and Derrick Rose.
That's a pretty damn good guesses. But no, but I
like to know. I like the depth of knowledge here. Okay,
we get a little comedy, we get a little history,

(01:33:13):
we get a little chickenery. But no good. I like that.
But no, all right, let's go back to Chris Perffett.
Two thousand twelve. My team beat Kansas Jayhawks. We won
the National championship and and I was named the outstanding
player of the tournament. Chris Profett, what my name? Anthony Davis?
Look at you? Should we throw it to family one

(01:33:41):
more time? Or yeah? I want to see. I want
to see what kind of Kentucky player he gets ups.
I'll tell you what. I'm gonna do it impromptu one here.
We're gonna go a bonus round because the nation is
planning for it. Years ago, I was voted to the
Basketball Hall of Fame, even though I continued to work

(01:34:02):
until just recently. Bryan Family, What my name? Oh, that's
very interesting. I'll give you a clue to coach. It's
a coach. Okay, I'm sorry, Okay, Well got Nellie's been
retired quite a while, hadn't he. Yeah, you're right, I'm
gonna work on the buzzer though. I like it. I mean,

(01:34:24):
we got this going, man, maybe one of those things
you do this whole four hours. All right, let's go
back to let's try Chris Perfett. One years ago, I
was voted to the Basketball Hall of Fame, even though
I didn't retire. To him just very recently, I'm a coach,
Chris Parfett, What my name? I think I see what
you're putting down. I'm gonna go with Mike Sachowski. Look
at you, Oh my god, bull bets and your thoughts

(01:34:49):
on the matter. I'm glad he's retired. You guys picked
right up at my little game there, didn't you. Yeah,
you undercover badasses Alius Alis. All right, good job, guys,
very nicely done. All right, Coming up, the NFL changed
the major rule this week, and uh, people are cheering

(01:35:09):
on the aisles, but don't worry, they'll be people complaining
as well too. I think it's got some holes in it.
I'll explain. I'm Bernie Fradderwick, coming you alive from Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. Stick and stay. You're listening
to Fox Sports Sunny and Fox Sports Radio. Now we're
back on Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio. I'm Bernie

(01:35:30):
Fraddock coming to you alive from the Las Vegas Fox
Sports Radios studios. And one of the big announcements to
come out of the NFL this past week is there's
now been a rule amendment to the NFL overtime which
makes a provision that both teams get the ball. Uh,

(01:35:51):
but it's for the postseason only, not necessarily for the
regular season. See, in the regular season, the game can
in in the tie by. In the postseason, the game
cannot in a time someone's got to win an advance.
I don't think this rule solves the problem, frankly, and
I'll tell you why in a minute. But if they're
so worried about players health, which they say they are,

(01:36:13):
which seems like a platitude, there's a lot of contradictory
things that would argue against that. But let me stand
point here. Uh, why don't you just eliminate over time
in the regular season altogether? You can if you if
you don't want to end in a tie, there's plenty
of ways to avoid overtime. Think about that field goal,
maybe you should take in the first quarter instead of

(01:36:34):
getting cute because their metric book, your analytic book, says
you really should go forward on four fourth and two
on the forty one. Okay, whatever the case. Maybe there's
things you can do, or maybe there's times you should
go for it on fourth down, maybe there's times you shouldn't. Okay,
there are decisions you can make. I believe that enable

(01:36:54):
that would actually enhance your ability to avoid over time.
I only bought fourteen percent of games go overtime. Now
when you get to the postseason, it's different. All right, Obviously,
this is I think a pretty it's a reaction, Okay,
Jim Mercy said as much. We all saw the Buffalo
Kansas City game, and it's a damn shame because it
shouldn't go down that way. You work, you work cards.

(01:37:15):
There's hundreds of million dollars at steakes just to get
to this flash point of greatness and a big game,
and all of a sudden, a coin flip determines who
starts with the ball well up since the previous overtime
rule was instituted. Now this was back in twelve. The
team that wins the coin toss during the regular season
wins the game about half the time, right, But when

(01:37:36):
both teams have the possession eight percent all the time,
the team that wins the point the coin coss wins
the eight percent of the time. And then I believe
in the playoffs, I saw the number that ten of
the last twelve coin toss winners in the playoffs win it. Now,
a couple months back, I went into my diet tribe
about how in one one of the most famous games

(01:37:59):
of all time Christmas Day, Kansas City Chiefs uh Miami Dolphins,
they went like two and a half overtime, longest game
in history, and the Chiefs prevailed that a guy by
the name of ed Pololac became a legend in Kansas
City Chiefs history. You know what I'm talking about, or
google it or not. I'm of the belief that maybe

(01:38:21):
you just play in another quarter and oh, they're all
gonna die. No, no one died, by the way. No.
If you don't want to go over time, you take
provisions against it. You know what to do, take risks,
do whatever you need to do to put yourself in
a position where you're not gonna go over time, and
you may not always be able to control that. I
get it. So if you find yourself in over time,

(01:38:41):
if you're going to invest all these millions of dollars
and and what's at stake, as Jim RSA said, play
a fifth quarter. Okay, I don't really like sudden death.
I I in football. You don't have it in the NBA,
you don't have it in in Major League Baseball. Both
teams get there at bats. You don't have well, you
do have actually have it in the NHL, but it's

(01:39:03):
that's different. Okay, with the bouncing pucks, you're talking about
one two goal games in football, fifty points a game.
My point is this is that in order to make
it fair inequitable. Uh, there really has to be football
played in the way it's played during the game that
you don't have. I think you don't have uh sudden
death during a regular season game, or you don't have

(01:39:25):
sudden death during during regulation, So why do you have
to have it in the postseason? Are in the overtime?
And I'll tell you why I say that, because let's
look at this rule next year. Let's say Buffalo plays
Kansas City again. All this time, no matter what, both
teams are gonna get the ball. Okay, you know, Kansas
City got burned by that against Tom Brady in uh

(01:39:47):
what three years ago, and they were very stoke about it,
and he didn't complain. Kansas City. The karma came back
and they Patrick Mahomes got the ball overtime and he
took it down the field. He did he did what
Patrick Mahomes did. I know everybody would have liked to
see Josh Allen get the ball back. Here's the flaw
I see with this new overtime rule. Let's say Buffalo

(01:40:10):
plays Kansas City again, we got a replay of last year.
Excuse me, it's it's deja vu all over again. Ugi
so all of a sudden Chiefs get the ball, they
take it down the field and they score touchdown. Well,
under the new rule, Buffalo gets the ball. But what

(01:40:32):
if that's an eight minute and twelve second drive. So
Buffalo gets the ball back, but they've got to do
in a minute forty eight with Patrick Mahomes just took
eight minutes to do. You tell me that can happen.
Does that solve this problem? I don't think so. If
you played an entire fifth quarter, then Buffalo might get
the ball back and then I got seven or eight minutes.

(01:40:54):
Maybe they only muster a field ball, which you keep playing.
Now they stop Kansas City, they go down to get
a touchdown, and they win the aim in legitimate fashion,
not having to do with overtime with sudden death. All right,
that's kind of a mouthful there. I know that Indianapolis
and Philadelphia proposed to set a modified rules and and

(01:41:14):
and they the competition committee liked them. I know at
the beginning of the season, you know, the Titans had
recommended that both teams possessed the ball in overtime unless
the team receiving the kickoff scores a touchdown and at
two point conversion that win the game. All right, let's
not get gimmicky here. Really, come on, man, these guys
put so much on the line, they invest so much,

(01:41:37):
and to have it in on something gimmicky like that,
I don't I don't like that. I don't like that either.
I'm just concerned that in at ten in or overtime,
even if both teams are guaranteed to get the ball,
it's still not equitable because one team could take seven
eight minutes to complete their drive. Even if they only

(01:41:58):
get a field goal, it doesn't even the fair amount
of time for the opponent to reply. All right, maybe
we're making progress, maybe this is a work in progress.
But I just think the NFL talks out both sides
of the hula. They're worried about player safety, sure, sure
you are. They don't have over time during the regular season,
since the game can in and the tie anyway, what

(01:42:19):
for you don't want to tie? And repeating myself, now,
take measures so you can avoid it. All right? Coming up? Wow,
the World Cup. We've got a lot to look forward to,
I think more so now than in previous years. And
Chris Perfect will explain why it is the world of
soccer But first let's go to Brian Failey, the man

(01:42:41):
with the dulcet tones and golden pikes. Brian fully with
the latest Bernie. Let's go to the final four, and
let's go. Let's go, Let's do it. You and I,
let's make it happen. In the meantime, let's talk about
what happened last night, and that was where number eight
North Carolina in the evening contest beat number two Duke
any one to seventy seven. So Heels fans have the

(01:43:02):
last laugh at coach k who exits in losing to
his nemesis, ending a storied coaching career for Mike Shachevski. Now,
with North Carolina winning, they will take on Bill self
and number one Kansas, as they were able to win
by storming past number two Villanova eighty one to sixty five,

(01:43:23):
David McCormick going hard with twenty five points. In the NBA,
the Nets got fifty five points from Kevin Durant more
than thirty from Kyrie Irving, but that wasn't enough as
they fall short to the Hawks one two to one fifteen.
The Warriors are winners against the Jazz one eleven to
one oh seven. And Golden State Mirror formality. With that

(01:43:47):
win locks upper spot in the postseason. The Heats are
victorious against the Bulls one seven to one oh nine,
Jimmy Butler cooking up twenty two points, Juel Embi twenty
nine points and fourteen boards. As the seventies sixers scale
past the Hornet's one four to one fourteen. The Calvs

(01:44:09):
demoralized the Knicks one nineteen to one oh one, Darius
Garland playing so well twenty four points in thirteen assists.
Keep in mind that the NASCAR Cup Series continues on
later on today and it's going to be on Fox
Television from Richmond three thirty pm Eastern time. Ryan Blaney

(01:44:31):
has earned the poll and it's also final round of
the Texas Open today on the p g A Tour
in brand Seneker. Isn't a four weight tie for a
one stroke lead at the attorney And then Bernie, I
cannot wait, like sports fans around us, the Master's next
Thursday or this upcoming Thursday. And with that I sent

(01:44:53):
it back to a man who I think doesn't give
himself enough credit for what he can do on the
golf course. It's Bernie Fratto in Las Vegas. Thanks so much, Brian,
appreciate that. All right, it's time every week. It's the
most popular support in the world. And because it's a
World Cup year, listen, we bring you all the news,
all the hits are all we know. You're station for

(01:45:14):
good times and great oldies. It's bringing Chris per fete
in the world of soccer. Chris. The US is in
the World Cup. That's right. It took them a little
bit of work. They obviously had a zero zero draw
against Mexico. That was very for for me, it's shameful.
I think sometimes here in the US we only really
pay attention when they're winning. But this team has a

(01:45:36):
lot of flaws to it. But hey, they beat Costa Rica.
They got what they needed. They are they are in.
So we have United States is. We have the World
Cup draw this week and we're gonna go through. We're
gonna go through a lot of these groups here. We
have plenty of time to break down all these groups individually.
But first blush here it's a good one, Bernie. Group
B is where the United States lands and they find

(01:45:57):
themselves with right. Yeah, well that's the big one. That's
why I want to lead up to so no, no, no,
you're fine. It's exciting and we're about talking to seconds
so iran at the winner of the playoff of from
UEFA of either Wales, Scotland or the Ukraine. And yes,
England the team the it's coming home people. Everything about

(01:46:18):
England and not only that, Bernie England and the United
States their match in the World Cup. We have the
dates for these matches. They are scheduled to play the
day after Thanksgiving on Black Friday. Ohs are going to
be through the rule to imagine this for me to like,
because I cover the Lions and I can, and you know,
I cover a lot of Detroit sports. Thanksgiving, I'm gonna

(01:46:39):
have all those NFL games with the Detroit Lions, with
the Cowboys, with whoever is for the other Thanksgiving game.
Then we're gonna have England US and then the game
Ohio State Michigan and all the rivalry games on Saturday.
It is going to be an unmissable three day of
sports and England US is part of it. Now. I
think the big with any kind of group when the

(01:47:01):
team gets into it is what are your chances to
come out of that group? Obviously, the top two of
every group gets taken into the knockout rounds, and I
think the United States have a good shot here. I
could see them potentially like Wales in Ukraine. Both had
very good showings at Europe. I think if either of
those teams are in there, it could be trouble and

(01:47:22):
the United States will probably have to get a lot
of points. But Iran is not much of a threat
there two to one lay they did. However, like you
would expect with the talent the US has, they should
be able to get up for this game either way
compared to It's definitely not a group of death that
probably falls to Group E. There's no real in my mind,

(01:47:43):
there's no real group of death this year like there
were in previous years. I remember in twenty the US
got put in a group with you know, Portugal and
Ghana and um I believe Germany and that was very
or it might have been Belgium, I forget. I apologize
my memories kind of shoddy sometimes. But GROUPIE has Spain, Germany, Japan,

(01:48:05):
and the winner between Costa Rica and New Zealand in
a playoff now Costa Rica. I'm not high on the
conquer Calfe group in general, but they had a very
strong showing at the end. I don't know if they'll
get in over New Zealand, but that's a really tough
group of Japan are kind of the toast of the
Asia region right now. Should be very fun there. Spain,
I mean Germany obviously a big hitter every year. Last

(01:48:27):
year's last World Cup winner France group D against the
winner of a playoff between Peru, Australia and the United
Arab Emirates. I expect Peru to be that team, but
we'll see with Denmark and Tunisia, and then we should
talk about the other two parts of our North American brethren,
Mexico and Canada. For Canada, a lot of flair there, Bernie.

(01:48:48):
Everyone in Canada very excited to see Canada in the
World Cup with some very big name players. They are
for their trouble though, put in a group with Croatia,
Morocco and Belgium. Hey, Chris, let me jump and I'll
tell you. Because the USA opens up three days before Thanksgiving,
we really don't know where they're gonna play. They could
play Wales, Scotland, Ukraine. Do you have a preference, I

(01:49:10):
think if you're a U S fan you probably want
to see Scotland. I think all three of those teams
are pretty good. I don't know what the state is
of Ukraine, given you know what's happening in Ukraine right now,
but Ukraine had a pretty decent showing in Euros and
so did so did Wales. Whales never made out the
group round in Euros. But I think you'd want I
think in ascending descending order, if you're U U S fan,

(01:49:32):
you want to either Scotland, Wales or Ukraine. Yeah, I
I to me, it's all the same I you get
in these tournaments. I will say this though, I absolutely
I'm I'm not talking out and I took us here.
I actually think the US has a chance to emerge
from Group B in the number two. I think New
England's a prohibit of favor in England's. England's probably gonna Seeland. No,

(01:49:56):
it's fine, Old England is probably going to sweep up
that group. They were, They're still one of the strongest
squads in the world right now. The whole thing. Yes,
So I'm sure a lot of that betting is coming
from England English slappies who really, really really want to see,
as they say over there, Bernie, it's coming home. They
want to see it's coming home very badly. They they

(01:50:17):
hold themselves the birthplace of the sport. They want to
see a World Cup win. And this is a very
strong squad to do it. But the United States I
think could easily slid into that number two. You just
need strong showings against Iran, maybe steal a point from England.
I don't think that will happen, but if you can
hold them to a draw and then clean up against
you know, you know, get four points maybe against Iran,

(01:50:39):
and we what was something crazy happens? Because England opens
up against Duran and Iran could give him a tussle.
This is a game where anything, I mean, it's it's
the World Cup. Anything can happen. I remember that you
guys pulled out a draw against Portugal, and that was
a that was a Portugal team that was at the
height of its powers with Rinaldo, Like, anything can happen

(01:50:59):
in this draw. So and finally, real quick, sorry, I
want to get to the last of our North American brethren.
Mexico kind of gets put in a rough group with Poland, Argentina,
Saudi Arabia. I can maybe see them coming out as
the two spot there, but they'll have a tough fight
against Poland Argentina. This is probably met Lionel Messi's last
hurrah in a World Cup situation in group sees alright,

(01:51:22):
good stuff, Chris is gonna be fun to watch. We'll
have funy. I think in the coming weeks we could
preview all these groups and talk about them. But there's
a lot to go through. The first blush. I feel
like Groupies a pretty good draw for the US. It's
it is a it is they avoid a very bad
they could get a much worse straw. I wouldn't want
to be in Group E with Spain and Germany. I'll
just say that, right, All right, good stuff. Speaking of draws,

(01:51:48):
We've got a team who's never been on hard knocks,
who's going to be on hard knocks, and from their
coach to their history to all the things in between.
And I have a little personal interest in this too,
as well as Christoph Fhette might. I would just say this,
this might be one of our favorite hard knocks to watch,
and I'll explain why. Coming up. I'm Bernie Friday. We're

(01:52:42):
Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Radio, Bernie Frodder Company live

any further, I want to thank my broadcast team. They've
been with me since the leven p and Pacific Saturday night,
turning all the dials, keeping us FU together. Be Brian
Felly on the updates, Chris Perfette, Bow Benson and Eric

(01:53:05):
in training. Al Right, it was announced last week that
there will be a Hard a new Hard Knocks team. Uh.
This is the HBO franchise that's had great success in
the last twenty years. And just so folks know, Uh,
in order for you to qualify to be a candidate

(01:53:25):
for Hard Knocks one, you can have been on Hard
Knocks in the last ten years. And you if you
this is this is what eliminates you. If you've made
the playoffs one of the last two years, or you've
got a first year head coach. Those three things. Only
three teams qualified, Carolina, the New York Jets, and the

(01:53:47):
Detroit Lions. There you have it, boys and girls, The
Detroit Lions will be the featured team in the twenty
two training camp version of Hard Knocks, according to an
announcement that was just made this past Monday by HBO
and NFL Films at the League Owners at their to

(01:54:09):
the league owners at their at their annual meeting. Now
what what I find interesting, uh, and I am fully
uh subscribing to this theory is that a major part
of the Lions of lure is their coach Dan Campbell.
I mean, he has very colorful news conferences, He uses
very unique aphorisms. He brings about a lot of levity

(01:54:32):
and humor. And even though the team was only three
and thirteen last year and they hardly had any NFL players,
they would be set with injuries. Man, they competed. And
Dan Campbell is not a phony. He's he's he's a
legit guy. And by the way, I covered the Lions
from eight and Dan Campbell was a tight end on

(01:54:52):
the team, and I think seven he might even been
on Marinelli's OH eight team that went oh in sixteen.
The guy is the real deal, all right. So I
know it was very fashionable for people to make fun
of that opening press conference when he talked about biting ankles. Yeah,
I'm just gonna let you know. He wasn't really serious

(01:55:12):
about that, but he's letting you know who he is.
And when there's a certain sincerity and his ability to
connect with players, which he has done, word gets around
the league. Detroy has always had difficulty attracting free agents
for for reasons. Uh, And I would just say this
that Dan Campbell is the real deal. I think he's
got a very good chance to have some success there.

(01:55:34):
And I think part of the allure is is he's
a guy who has almost no filter during his actual
news conferences, there are no there there is no telling
what sort of sound bites HBO might pick up behind
the scenes. And here's I'll let you do on a
little inside baseball. He's defensive ord coordinator Eron Glenn. He's

(01:55:55):
just as fiery and even more so during practices. If
you can believe that, I think this has got to
be this is a great thing. And beyond that, whoever
is the number two, you know, pick could really fit
the bill as part of many storylines. It could be
Katon Cavan Thibodeaux, it could be Aidan Hutchinson and and uh,

(01:56:17):
Derek Lions have some personalities on the team, Okay, Michael
Brocker's longtime defensive and running back Jamal Williams at a
B y U. These guys got big personalities you're gonna see,
all right. But in a statement the Lions and and
and their president and chief executive officer Rod Wood said quote,
we are excited about the opportunity to showcase the city

(01:56:40):
of Detroit in the amazing culture we are building at
the Lions. HBO Sports and NFL films are the best
of the best, and we know that they would be
excellent partners in sharing our story with football fans around
the world. By the way, the Lions have beautiful facilities
over in Allen Park, Michigan, which is about twenty minutes
of their field downtown where they played their home games

(01:57:02):
at Ford Fields. So it's not like the Star on Dallas,
but it's it's pretty darn nice. The Lions will be
the fifteen NFL team now to have appeared on a
season of Hard Knocks. It's their first one, and I
think we've seen enough of the Cowboys, haven't we. The
Cowboys have appeared three times. Jerry probably want to do
it every year if he had his choice, and I

(01:57:22):
don't mind. I would like the Cowboys that that was
kind of a let down last year. And then you know,
it just didn't go over big for me. It was
kind of like a fart in church and just what
what was that? You know, it wasn't great. I didn't
think it was great last year. Um, the Los Angeles
Rams and Cincinnati Bengals, they've done it twice and there
have been, you know, fifteen teams we've never done it,

(01:57:44):
and the Lions actually one of those. They'll be the
fifteen team to do it. Now. Last fall, you recall
the NFL created this in seasoned version of Hard Knocks
in the Indianapolis Colts where this subject of the first
in season version and I don't know whether they're gonna
bring that format back in Ino. So again that all

(01:58:06):
bodes wellfer lines, because now they're gonna have a a
chance to have their turn on the sunlight, their turn
on the spotlight. And uh, when you've got HPO sports,
h NFL films joining forces as they've done in the past. Uh.
And by the way, it's gonna begin August nine. You
think about it, were tomorrow today's Sunday, April three, Okay,

(01:58:30):
August nine is not that far us. It's four it's
four four months away, and so I actually, you know, okay,
and I I think you're you're gonna have a chance
to see this being one of the most unfiltered, uncensored
all at Access shows that the seasons ever have, and
and they're gonna create this theme what it takes to
be Detroit Lion. Okay, come on now, but I know

(01:58:53):
that the footage general for a fact, that will be
shot at their training camp in Allen Park, Michigan, and
they're gonna they're gonna bring a thirty man team in there.
They're gonna they're gonna roll about eight hours of coverage
which should be collected over the course of the series.
And uh, this year, you know, I've been privy to
what they're gonna talk about. They're gonna really focus on

(01:59:14):
the emerging stars. The team has whatever free agency signed,
and then again the rookies, and they're gonna bring in
a couple of badass rookies. Lines have two first round
of choices. But I think the Keys, they're gonna shine
a lot of light on Dan Campbell, who's entering his
second season with the team, and I think, you know again,
it's only five episodes. It starts August nine, and uh,

(01:59:38):
they're talking about maybe additional episodes on Tuesday that will
build up, that will build up to their you know,
September six final. And I don't think you know, anybody
watches Hard Knocks and and doesn't look for things that
you wouldn't normally see or can't see. I remember some
conversations the Atlanta Falcons had a few years ago that

(01:59:59):
one poor player who was cottany city had to call
his grandma. Uh, we'll see a lot of that right now.
I know the Lions have been a laughing stock, but
the yes, they are a legitimate NFL franchise, even though
they haven't won. They've won one playoff game since nineteen
fifty seven. But you add Dan Campbell, the new draft choices,
and the fact to take a peek behind the organization
a lot of folks won't know about. It should be fun.

(02:00:20):
All right. That's gonna do it for Fox Sports Sunday
and Fox Sports Radio. Keep it locked right here up next,
