Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to what's going on everybody. We are cham
packed here. I'm just looking at the rundown here. We've
got an NFL Draft wild card prospect, that's right, a
wild card prospect. Also, maybe a little NFL history that
could be repeating this year much beyond the NFL though,
(00:23):
the chronic complaining of Luca don chich and fisticuffs. We
got fisticuffs at a NASCAR Axfinity race. We will have
an in depth breakdown on this. I think it's a
fantastic conversation, but I want to start with tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods at the Masters. I have two main takeaways
(00:47):
when it comes to Tiger Woods and what he's doing
right now. The first is that I think we're witnessing
a new appreciation and I think it's twofold. I think
Tiger Woods has a new or a renewed appreciation for golf. Goodness.
(01:08):
His leg might have been amputated following that car wreck,
like there was no guarantee he was ever gonna golf again.
When something is almost taken away from you, there's just
a new appreciation. It's different. And I think what's really
cool that we're seeing at this tournament. Is that a
lot of fans have a new appreciation for Tiger being
(01:31):
on the golf course because we thought we might have
seen him for the last time after that car wreck.
It wasn't a done deal that he was gonna survive.
Onlookers saw the wreckage over there, they thought he might
have died, or whoever was driving that car might have died.
So for it to be where it is now after
(01:52):
a seventeen month absence and Tiger is back competing at
the Masters, it really is an awesome story. And if
you look at Tiger, he's plus one for the tournament
through two rounds. He overcame a bad start on Friday.
It was a bogey fest, a bogey fest early. Yet
he uh righted the ship, battled to a two over
(02:13):
seventy four on Friday, So he's at plus one. He
makes the cut for a twenty second consecutive time. That
ranked second in Master's history. But it's just a journey, really,
and I don't want to go too much in kumbay
yab mode. Off the jump here, I realized this is
the same time slot, albeit on the weekend, as you
(02:35):
have with Ben Maller. You know, in big Ben. He
doesn't bust out the violins and go Kumbayya too often. Does.
This might be a little bit different to your ear here,
but it does. It's an awesome story, you know, for
the squeamish people out there. You know, I'll lower the
volume on this one. But Tiger in that car crash,
(02:56):
he broke his right tibia and fibula. It busted apart
to the tune of breaking through the skin. That's where
he was. He was almost in the hospital for a month.
Then he was at home for three months, bed ridden,
couldn't get up, you know, just chilling in the living room,
and so to be where he is right now, it's
(03:17):
pretty impressive. But whether you think it's impressive or not,
I'm I don't know how you don't think it's impressive.
I just think there is a new appreciation. A lot
of people can relate to this. If you break up
with someone, you know, maybe at the very beginning, if
it's a bad relationship, you think, oh gosh, thankfully that's over.
(03:38):
I've had some bad relationships and almost without fail, give
it a little bit of time, you start reminiscing about
all the good stuff. I don't know why that is
I don't know if it's human nature or what. I'm
not the only one that does that. I don't know
why you don't just look at the good stuff while
you're in the relationship. I've done it where I look
at it way more when I'm past the relationship. It's
(03:59):
weird how that works. But the point is, if you
are headed toward a break up, maybe you do break up.
Some people get back together. There's a new appreciation. There's
just Oh, I thought this was gonna be completely gone,
and I missed certain things, and I think you're seeing
some of that with this Tiger Wood story, thinking that
his career was possibly over and now he's back with
(04:22):
this grand entrance at the Masters. It's a really cool story.
I'm Brian no here on Fox Sports Radio, and a
little more than ten minutes, I want to get to
are you a team. Are you a member of team
criticism or team free pass? There is a big name
in the sports world. Do you give him a free
pass for what's transpiring or are you criticizing him? So
(04:44):
we'll do that in a little more than ten minutes.
One other thing this is I want to stick with
Tiger for a second, but go Uh, I want to
expand it beyond just Tiger, beyond golf because, uh, you
know Tiger, it's written all over him where he's talkative. Now,
now he's smiling, you know, he's just soaking it up.
He has a new appreciation for golf again when he
(05:05):
thought it was gonna be taken away. But I was
thinking about Tiger and all the success that he's had
with fifteen major wins and the eight two victories on
the p g A Tour, all of that, and and
what stands out to me is we don't automatically resent success.
We don't automatically resent greatness. I think it's a case
(05:29):
by case thing, you know. But you often hear this
where we just get tired and we we just want
to knock him off your pedestal. That that's not automatically
the truth. I think it's case by case. To think
of some really successful teams, and they have their fair
share of haters, lakers come to mind. There's a lot
of people that have no problem whatsoever seeing Lebron and
(05:52):
the Purple and Gold missed the playoffs and it's just
Christmas in April, like, oh gosh, this is just beautiful
over here. Duke basketball, A lot of people weren't upset
seeing coach k losing the Final four and not win
a championship, not right off into the sunset. I would
throw the Patriots into the mix. Six Super Bowls. A
(06:14):
lot of people look at them like the Evil Empire.
Certainly there are teams where the greatness the success has
been resented. I think it goes beyond just success. It's
not as simple as saying, if you're successful, we eventually
will resent that success. That's not the case. I would
go back to look at Jordan's you go back to
the nineties Bowls, they just were never resented, even close
(06:38):
to a level of Lakers basketball, duke basketball, Patriots football.
It just it never happened. Um So I do. I
think it's case by case. Even if you look at
Tom Brady when he won his seventh ring with Tampa,
I don't think that success was greatly resented. You might
get your colorful comments here and there, are you know,
(07:01):
my guy Rob Parker might say something that's backhanded compliment
or a I don't know, a yeah, front slap disc.
It's not even a backhanded compliment. It's just an open
handed disc withholding all props you have from time. The
pooh poo king loved that right there. Yeah, absolutely, But
(07:22):
the seventh ring when he went to Tampa in his
first year and wanted all with no Bill Belichick, even
some Brady haters would say, you know, I gotta give
the guy credit. So I think that resenting success is
completely a case by case thing. I think there are
more factors at play that caused the masses to resent success.
(07:45):
I think it goes beyond just hey, you're successful, I'm
tired of you. I think it goes beyond that. Like
look Alabama football. This is a good example where you know,
Bamba football, the success that they've had. I think it's
more so people just want to see something new, right,
Like it's just here we go again with Bama. Wow, shocker,
(08:07):
they're reigning supreme yet like, oh wow, Bama's in the
championship game. Well crazy, Like you know, I do think
there is a fatigue that can happen, But I think
when it goes to the next level, there are other
factors at play. Maybe it's sort of the uh hoity toity,
we're duke and you're not vibe that people resent. You know,
(08:28):
the Lakers where they do like to kind of stick
out their chest and where the lakers and you're not
in case you forgot that sort of thing. So I
think that takes it to another level. If you look
at Tiger Woods, bring it full circle where it stands
right now. Tiger Woods has been uber successful post car wreck.
I don't know anyone who's resenting the success. You know,
(08:51):
him being back in contention. It's an awesome story. So
it just shows me that it's a case by case thing.
I don't think that it's hey, you're winning a lot
a lot and we're just like, oh my gosh, I
hate these I hate this team's guts. I think it
goes beyond that. By the way, Scottie Scheffler, he's leading
the Masters. It's got a five shot lead that ties
(09:14):
a Master's record through two rounds. He's at minus eight.
I think he is the oldest looking twenty five year
old I've ever seen in my life. Pay attention tomorrow,
if you watch a little bit of golf, even if
you just watch the highlights, he's the oldest twenty five
year old I've ever seen. I just looked it up
before the show. I'm like, how old is Scotty Scheffler.
(09:35):
He's the number one player in the world. And I look,
I was like, twenty five. Hold on, maybe my eyes
are like out of focus or something. Now it says
twenty five. He's only twenty five years old. That's unbelievable.
But Tiger woods in nineteenth place right now, plus one,
and I'm curious. I really want to see what happens
on Saturday, because I think he's telling the truth. I
(09:58):
don't think that he's milking this up right where he's like, yeah,
I'm sore. I'm a lot soarer than I would like
to be at this stage. And I just wonder, I
wonder if there's a rough round, if it takes its toll,
like this is a lot to be asking of a
leg that has just been repaired. Like to give you
(10:19):
an example of what's going on here, this is a
story right before the tournament where Tiger is not wearing
Nike shoes, He's not wearing his Nike golf cleats, He's
wearing foot joys. This is a story before the tournament,
and he said, I have very limited mobility now, just
with the rods and plates and screws that are in
(10:40):
my leg. I needed something different, something that allowed me
to be more stable. That's what I've gone to. So
Nike is kind of like, uh wait, run that bias again,
Like they're like, get a more stable shoes, stad like that,
we can't have them in foot choys over here. But
when Tiger is talking about rods and plates and screw
ruse and swelling, and I just I wonder if it
(11:03):
takes its toll on Saturday, and if uh, you know,
the bogies that we saw at the beginning of round two,
if we see a lot more in round three. I
hope not. I like the drama that it brings. The
more Tigers in contention, the more interested I am. But
I think that it is just an awesome story. Man, Alright,
plenty to get to. We'll get to the NFL stuff.
(11:25):
I think there is a wild card prospect of the
NFL Draft, something we've seen before. I want to get
to this right around the corner and feel free to

I'm Brian no here on Fox Sports Radio Team Criticism
or team free Pass in just a minute. Here, let
(13:11):
me say something. So I noticed that there was a
graphic during a baseball game here. So the Padres were
playing the Diamondbacks, and in each of the last two nights,
the Padres had a no hitter going at least through
six innings, and Bally Sports they had a graphic because
(13:34):
static graphic that on Thursday night said combine no hitter
through six innings, and then on Friday it said combined
no hitter seven innings. There are a lot of fans
that will freak out about that. A lot of fans
will say this is typically like a radio broadcast type thing,
or even the TV broadcast. Don't mention it. Don't mention it.
(13:55):
You're gonna jinx, it gonna jinks the no hitter. And
I think it's absurd. But I started thinking, what's the
most ridiculous thing I do as a sports fan. There
have to be many you know, I'm all in here,
and so I just like it's not really superstitious. I
will never be like, I don't mention the no hitter,
(14:17):
You're gonna jinx it. That's the dumbest thing ever to me.
I'll never buy into that. So I'm not too superstitious.
I'm not like, oh, hey, I just ate a pickle
and that was a good second quarter for the Dolphins.
I just have to eat pickles the rest of the game.
That's the formula here for success. I'm not like that.
But I'm racking my brain. What is the most ridiculous
(14:37):
thing I do? I have to give it some more thought.
If you want to chime in, feel free to do
so at the no show on Twitter. It's a good question,
the most ridiculous thing you do as a sports fan.
I know there's gonna be something more ridiculous, and I'm
I'm unashamed here. I will watch the NFL Draft all
three days, from beginning to bitter end. I think it's informative.
(15:00):
I mean, I don't know all these players. I'm not watching.
I'm not a draft expert. I'm not watching lower levels
of college football. I use it to learn, you know,
and of course the people that I'm familiar with, and
obviously the teams I'm familiar with. I'm just interested what
the strategy is behind it. But I watched the whole
freaking thing. I used to watch the Pro Bowl from
(15:22):
beginning to end. I tapped out this year. I couldn't
do it. It was that bad. The quality was just
too bad. I don't need top shelf quality, but you
can't give me what they were given me. I couldn't
make it. But if you have any thoughts the most
embarrassing thing you do or ridiculous thing you do as
a sports fan, I'd like to hear it now before
(15:43):
I get to the calls here, uh team criticism or
team free pass. I'm not gonna do a whole long
thing on this because I sense some Purple and Gold fatigue.
I can sense it. Okay, you know, so I'm not
gonna do a whole thing here, but I just want
to make this one point. So here's the scenario. Lebron James.
(16:04):
It was announced on Friday he's gonna miss the remainder
of the NBA season. It's got a sprained left ankle.
Not a shocker. Lakers have been eliminated, and I understand
why they would shut Lebron down. There's really no point
to have him play now that they've been eliminated. The
problem is Lebron he wasn't playing before the Lakers were eliminated.
(16:24):
So here's the brief timeline. Lebron sprained his ankle against
the Pelicans on March and he stayed in that game.
He finished with thirty nine points and forty two minutes.
Then he missed the next two games at Dallas at Utah,
didn't play. Then he played against the Pelicans, played nearly
forty minutes, thirty eight points, eight rebounds, four assists, played great.
(16:51):
They lost the game. Then he missed the next game
against Denver, and then the next game it was a
do or die scenario that how to beat the Suns
to still have a pulse. Lebron said out that game too.
Lakers lost. They were eliminated from playoff contention. Are you
team criticism or team free pass? Do you say, as
(17:12):
Laker team was going nowhere fast if he was a
little gimpy, no big deal, What does it really matter?
We could make that point. I'm firmly on the side
of team criticism. Now. I think if you're on team criticism,
you can be reasonable. You don't have to lamb base
someone that doesn't really deserve it. You don't have to
come completely unhinged and unglued here, But I think it's
(17:36):
completely lame. You can't convince me that Lebron at his
health status that game against the Suns where the Lakers
had to have it. If the Lakers, if that's a
big game, if that's in the playoffs, he's playing that game.
You can't convince me that Lebron's health was bad enough
where he just he couldn't go. It's just he saw
(17:58):
the handwriting on the wall. He's like, we're not going anywhere,
you know. I don't know what else went into it.
Is this a branding thing. It's worse to be on
the court losing, and this is embarrassing as it is.
I don't know. I'm not sure what all went into it,
but I thought he laid down. This might be old
school thinking to a fault. I don't know if it's
(18:19):
old school versus news school, I'm not sure. But as
far as I'm concerned, if you can go with your
same health status and it's a bigger game than you
should go when your playoff lives are at stake. And
he didn't That's where I'm at. If you want to
weigh on on that, feel free to do so. One
quick nugget here before I get to Paul So Lebron
(18:42):
he cannot be the scoring champ. He's neck and neck
with Joel Embiid. But the NBA rules require a player
to appear in at least seventy percent of the team's games.
You gotta appear in fifty eight games in an eighty
two game season to qualify for the league leader board. Right,
(19:04):
Lebron James will finish this season with fifty six games played,
so scoring averages thirty point three points per game. Joel
Embiat is at thirty point four their neck and neck,
and Lebron doesn't qualify based on not getting to fifty
eight games, So take that for what it's worth. I
don't even realize that about the fifty eight game thing.
(19:26):
You gotta play fifty eight to qualify, But that's the
deal Lebron, who is a whisker away from overtaking Joel Embiid.
Then I love those end of season deals. Here we
had one with David Robinson, and this guy scores a
ton and here comes the admiral. He scores even more
that type of stuff. It's not gonna happen with him,
Bead and Lebron at the end of this season, as
(19:46):
Lebron is gonna miss eight of the final ten games
of the season, after it was announced on Friday he
shut down for the year. Alright, eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox. Let me get out to Paul in
Rhode Island. I love this once when an NFL prediction here,
I love this April nine. Lay it on me, Paul.
What do you have for us? Hey, thank you for
(20:08):
thinking my call and give that give that producer Nick
Real Union, uh uh wage you know what I mean. Listen, Yeah, Nick,
he's he's the man. Listen, he's he's he is what
he is. You know, he's a word of his man.
He's a uh he's he's a trust me. Even when
(20:30):
I call Ben, it's the same thing. Listen. I am predicting.
This has nothing to do with being a psychic. Okay,
I'm predicting that the Raiders will play the Patriots in
the wild Card game now that three billion dollars stadium,
whatever it costs. I don't think the raid is a
rout of failure. Wait, wait, who's playing? Who in the
(20:51):
wild card game here, the Patriots and the Raiders and
they now you know me, I've been telling you guys,
uh for four months that Matthew Stafford was gonna take
it all. Remember, I don't I can't remember who says
what like right off the top of my head here, Paul,
I understand, Listen, I just think that the Raiders are
(21:16):
They're up and coming. They're up and coming. That's my my.
You got him winning the a f C West. Why
are they in the wild card game here? Aren't they
gonna take the division? No, because that that that's a
tough division. But I think they're gonna make the wild
card and I think they I think listen, I car
has been there seven years or six years or whatever.
If Jimmy goes to his old boss, like I told Ben,
(21:40):
you know, there's a space there now because they got
rid of what's his name, Marcus? Right, so you know what, Jimmy,
you just had your surgery. Get at the back of
the line. You might have a space there because I
am telling you l a Raiders, uh do should not
go backwards? They're going forward. And I am a Patriot guy,
(22:04):
don't get me wrong. Alright, down here. Yeah, we're entering it.
We have here is we don't like to pay quarterbacks.
That's a big problem. Yeah, it's a shame. Thanks for checking, Paul.
I appreciate the call, buddy. Um. You know it's written
down Paul Patriots and he said Los Angeles Raiders. Hm.
(22:29):
I love that. He's a word of his man. He
had Ricky. He's calling you Nick, Ricky like, what, what's
what's going on with that? Yeah? God bless him. I
think he's called me Ryan before you're Nick. You know.
K Fig is like, you know, I don't know Stephen
(22:49):
or something according to Paul, but we've got k Fig
with us. Evan Figures Update Anchor Extraordinaire. What's going on?
K Fig? All right, I'm gonna predict a Week eight
VIC three for the Jets over the Dolphins. In another
I'm writing it down. I've heard predictions of oh, who's
gonna win a division, who's gonna win the Super Bowl?
Never who's gonna play somebody in a wild card matchup?
(23:10):
But hey, hey, whatever works, I'll take it. It's very specific.
I like it. We'll start with the NBA. Some scorers
of note, the Sun's outscored Utah thirties six to third teen.
In the fourth quarter one eleven to one oh five
was a victory four Phoenix thirty three points there for
Devin Booker. Utah now tie with Denver for the five
seed in the West with one game remaining on the
schedule for each team. Dallas Miley wat Portland. They are
(23:32):
a have game behind Golden State for the three seed.
Brooklyn beat Cleveland. They have identical records, but the Nets
do on the tiebreaker, so with the Nets do beat
the Pacers on Sunday, they will clinch the seven seed
in the Eastern Conference. In Major League Baseball, sham and
I of the Padres No hit Arizona through seven inning.
San Diego would win three nothing as he would give
way to the bullpen. Houston hammerth the Angels thirteen to six.
(23:52):
Toronto overcame a seven run deficit to beat Texas ten
to eight. Atlanta nearly blew a seven run lead, they
would hold on hold on to be Cincinnati seven to six.
Dodgers beat the Rockies five to three. Max Scherzer won
six innings for the Mets and the victory over his
former club Washington. Victories for the Giants Mariners and Phillies.
Second round with the Master's number one in the world,
Scottie Scheffler has a five stroke lead over four others.
(24:15):
Tiger Woods didn't make the cut at one over back
to Brian No. By the way, Kate Fig, do you
agree with me, Scottie Scheffler looks like he's at least
thirty three years old. He's the oldest twenty five year
old I've ever seen in my life. Yeah, it's amazing.
He got the Greg Oden gene. Is what he has
working with him right now is amazing. Yeah, I don't
know what it is. Maybe it's the little scruff. I'm
not sure what's going on there now. I do have
(24:37):
to tell you, Ka Fig, you mentioned that, uh, that
Phoenix came back and beat the Jazz on Friday, huge comeback.
That was my fake bet on Friday. I only had one.
I took the Jazz minus three and they had this
epic meltdown, you know, for a long time. Yeah, so
it didn't cost me any money. Not betting during lent.
(24:59):
You know, we got Eastern right around the corner and
then back to betting. Maybe, but I would say all
bets are off. But I think that would be the
wrong the wrong burbage to use. All bets are back
on at that point, Yeah, all bets are on um.
But you know what's funny is I walked away not
losing a cent, and it was just I shrugged my shoulders,
like wow, I would have come back by Phoenix. That
(25:20):
was almost fun. And I'm like, that would not be
my reaction. If this was a real bet at all,
I will lost my mind, k Fig. You'll be breaking things,
throwing things to windows they don't like, like the fake
jury Weston winning time. Can't be able to control yourself.
And that's what I'm wondering here. I don't know if
betting is for me. I love it, I do, but
(25:41):
I am too much of a competitive maniac. When I lose,
you know, I have to have a talk with myself,
Kate Fig. And so I was like, before I bet,
I need to look in the mirror, like you're going
to lose. It's bound to happen. You're not gonna win
every single bet. If you're not comfortable with losing, you
can't bet right. Well, do you feel compelled to watch
(26:01):
certain matchups of certain games only because you have something
writing on it? Meaning yeah, so meaning like, I can't
watch this Sun's Utah game unless I got some action going. No, no,
I can completely watch it and be happy. It's good.
So maybe a healthy way and maybe you work your way.
Have you ever tried throing this this period of time
where you're not betting, but you're fake betting, not betting
(26:22):
at all in any sense, fake or otherwise. Oh yeah,
I look, I went goodness, it was about a year
or two without betting at all, and I'm just like
you didn't have withdrawals or shakes or anything. No, No,
I'm good. Yeah, I'm totally good health. That's you know,
that's a good thing. That's the good sign. You know,
(26:42):
you can walk away from it if you really really
want to. But something tells me you really don't. That's
the problem. That's exactly right now, k fake We gotta
break down this NASCAR fight here. Now, um, there was
a little bit of fisticuffs in the NASCAR Exfinity race.
Now I find this story to be fascinating. You don't
(27:05):
have to have seen the fight. I'm talking to UK
Fig and anybody else listening there, but I'll try to
explain it for you. If you haven't seen this. Okay.
So we've got two drivers, Tye Gibbs and Sam Mayor,
so let's just keep it simple. Gibbs is ticked off
at Mayor because Mayor was a little bit of aggressive,
(27:26):
aggressive move on the race track. Okay, So after the race,
Gibbs goes over. He's got his helmet on, all right,
Gibbs pushes the other guy and Gibbs walks away. All right.
The other guy comes up and he gets into gibbs face.
He pushes him lightly, then he's yelling a little bit
(27:49):
more is getting in his face. Space invader pushes him again,
and at that point Gibbs gives him a one two piece.
It's actually like a one to three piece, a couple
of quick rights, a little left hook in there. And
so it's been fascinating on Twitter. There are a lot
of people that say, dude, you're throwing punches with your
(28:12):
helmet on. That's so weak. It is And I did
see this, by the way, Brian, and you're now, I'm
sure consciously in his mind he's not thinking about that. He's,
you know, just got out of his car. There's an
argument going on. I don't know if consciously you say
I'm gonna be a man or whatever you want to say,
and take your hammel off and square up. But just visually,
if you're you know, five feet away from it, it's
not the best look that you would you tee off
(28:34):
on a guy and you're well protected. I understand people
being upset. Now. I look at this k fig and look,
Gibbs instigated the thing. He pushes the guy, but he
walked away. And I look at it. If the other
guy walks up on him and he's in his face
and he's yelling and he's shoving, you don't have time
to take your helmet off. You know. He tried. He
(28:56):
gave it a little tug on the left side, and
then he's like, you know, screw it, and then he
just let his hands go. I look at it where
I say, if you walk up on me and you're
in my face and you're threatening me, and now you're
shoving me, you have the right to get blessed with
these hands, whether I'm wearing a helmet or not. That's
how I look at it. But there are a lot
of people that are calling shenanigans here. They're calling dirty
(29:17):
pool and the guy with the helmet throwing punches. Well,
you know, at the very beginning, the one wearing the helmet.
You know, he initially shoves, and I think he's it
gives his gives in the blue gives is a shover.
He's the initial he's the helmet guy. Okay, So Gibs shoves,
turns his back and walks away. So if I'm Mayor,
I'm like, are you just gonna shove me and walk away?
I'm not Chris Rock. I'm not gonna just sit here
(29:38):
and eat it. Uh, come, come, come at me, bro.
So that he walks up and you know, obviously gives
us a little you know, I guess, you know, turned
off by it, or didn't really wasn't expecting him to
come up to him. So he doesn't turn his helmet up.
I'll take his helmet off. He just faces him, face up.
So I understand why Mayor would say, were you're gonna
shove me and walk away? I'm not gonna let that fly? Uhuh? So,
so I sort of understand why he pursued him, even
(29:58):
though he was still wearing a helmet. I can't too.
I can't too. And it's look, I agree with you
a little bit here. It is a bad look to
be throwing punches while wearing a helmet. But if you
walk up on me and I don't have time to
take my helmet off, I still reserve the right to
throw my hands because what I thought of taking my
(30:21):
helmet off and you're just trying to get me body
shot off? The body shot? Yeah, I know it. I
know he was getting man. A lot of people are
coming after him on Twitter. That was like, yeah, you
can't just be like, hold on, hold on, let me
take my helmet off, you know, and then we can
engage in fisticuffs over here. That's just not how it works. Yeah,
not in the heat of the moment. No, No, definitely
(30:41):
not good fight breakdown though very well done. This is
how it sended on FS one. O TI gets going
after Sam Mayor and we've got to fight at Martin's
vill there it is. You know, you just need the
bell ringing and we're on here, know, very nice. I
think they should do that more often. That really spruces
(31:03):
up races, you know, just have it turned into UFC afterward.
I think that's the recipe for success. Alright, eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox, A lot on the table here,
we've covered a lot of ground, the most ridiculous thing
you do as a sports fan. Very curious if you
have anything on your list, Um, Gronk is back in
the news. We'll hit on that. I want to get to.
(31:26):
Uh this the player that I believe is the wild
card prospect of the entire NFL draft. I'll tell you
about that. I'm Brian No keep it locked right here
on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, it's Ben host to the
Fifth Hour with Ben Maller. Would mean a lot to
have you join us on our weekly auditory journey. You're
asking one in God's name is the Fifth Hour? I'll
(31:48):
tell you it's a spin off of it. Ben Mather Show,
Cold Hit overnights on fs ARE. Why should you listen?
Picture if you will a world will we chat with
captains of industry in media, sports and more every week
sport It's amazing facts about human nature. And listen to
the Fifth Hour with Ben Mallow on the I Heart
Radio app, Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast.
I'm probably know here on Fox Sports Radio. You know
(32:11):
I might get a little loopy tonight. I've got some
mountain dew here. All bets are off when the dew
is flowing, you can get a little like this song
right now. That's kind of how I feel right now.
I'm amped up a little bit, you know, I get
a little loud, a little loud when the due is flowing.
It's good for energy, energy though, you know, good for energy.
(32:32):
All right. I want to get to uh, I'm gonna
get to the wild card prospect of the NFL draft
here momentarily, but I just have to go to the calls.
Ka Fig and I were talking about this fight at
the NASCAR Axfinity race and Jordan in Ohio. He wanted
to provide some context over here. So I'm very curious
what Jordan has to say. What from the Fox Sports
(32:53):
Radio Jordan's Hey, Brian, how you doing tonight? Good man? Hey, Okay,
So first off, I don't really know how much you
follow NASCAR, So can you give me a little bit
of info there? Thank you? As far as is like me. Yeah,
well I used to be. I used to be into
it a lot more. I'll watch it here and there. Um.
I went to high school with Ryan Newman, so he
(33:16):
was my guy, so I would watch mostly because of him.
I'll be honest, I haven't watched as much as I
used to, and I certainly don't watch NASCAR Axfinity races. Yeah, okay,
So I just went a little bit back on info
because I think there's a lot of context going into
this fight. You have taken the consideration because Gibbs isn't
(33:37):
really a fan favorite earlier favorite of most of the
other drivers. So last week they had a race at
Richmond and UH going into the last lap he basically
just overdrove the turn intentionally and direct the guy in
front of him to win the race. And then tonight
when the same thing happened to him, he was not
(33:58):
too pleased with it, and Uh decided to take matters
into his own hands. And before the clip you saw,
he actually ran Sam Mayor Uh going into the first
turn after the checker flag. So not only did he
start to fight on pit road, he actually started to
fight on the racetrack to Yeah, well, I know, I
appreciate you throwing that out there. I think that, you know,
(34:20):
it's it's one of these things where that provides more
context in terms of, you know, was he right to
push the guy? Was he right to start the whole day? Yeah,
that's fine. What kay fig and I were really getting
at was is it okay to throw punches while being
the only guy wearing your helmet? So that's where I'm at,
(34:41):
where yeah, hey, I get it, and I appreciate that
there's more context, involves more of a backstory involved, but
I think when you just cut it down to something
that it doesn't require all the context. It's like, is
it permissible to throw hands while you're the only guy
wearing a helmet? I say yes. I say if the
other guys uh, you know, threatening right pushing like, yeah,
(35:05):
you got the right to get a you know, get
the old one two piece right there alright, Eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox is the phone number. So
as far as the wild card prospect of the NBA
of the NFL Draft, not that far away, just a
couple of weeks away. I think it is Alabama wide
receiver Jamison Williams. Uh. Now, this is the guy who
(35:27):
tore his A c L in the National Championship Game
against Georgia, and so it's just interesting where where he's
ranked from draft board to draft board or mock draft,
mock draft. A guy like Dane Brugler, he does a
great job for the athletic He has Jamison Williams as
his second ranked wide receiver prospect. But the question is
(35:50):
with that torn a c L how far is he
gonna drop? And so that to me is the wild
card factor of this draft. And you look at a
team like the Packers at number twenty two, you could
you see Jamison Williams still on the board at twenty two. Overall,
you gotta pounce. If the Packers are there and he's there,
got a pounce. I don't know that he's gonna last
(36:11):
that long, but it's possible. And the other thing I
would throw out is I think a lot of teams
you want that instant payoff, right, that instant gratification. You
wanna a player to come in as a rookie and
make an instant impact. I don't think there's anything wrong
with that thinking, but sometimes it can prevent you from
(36:31):
getting a great prospect that happens to be a couple
of months removed from a significant injury. And we don't
know when Jamison Williams will be set to play for
whichever team that drafts him. But I would take you
back to another guy. Think of Jeffrey Simmons. He's a
defensive lineman for the Tennessee Titans. Now, he tore his
(36:52):
a c L with about two months before the NFL Draft,
similar to Jamison Williams, so Jeff Simmons as a defensive lineman,
he dropped a little bit. He went nineteenth overall to
the Titans, and this past year he was a Pro bowler.
He was the second team All Pro and so he
didn't play that much. He only played for half of
(37:13):
the twenty nineteen season as a rookie. But you give
it a little bit more time and all of a sudden,
this dude's a pro bowler. This dude's a flat out
stud for the Titans, and they got him at a
discount because he slipped a little bit due to that
significant knee injury. I think the same thing is gonna
happen with Jamison Williams. And I can understand some teams thinking, wow,
(37:35):
trailing Burke's he could be a stud and he's not
recovering from a torn a c L. Jamison Williams, Yeah,
we liked the guy, but man, he's might only be
ready for half the season. I just I think you
gotta play the long game here, right, and especially if
you can get a discount like This isn't the nineteen
eighties anymore. This isn't the seventies or the sixties where
(37:57):
a torn a c L was way different. There's my
utern medicine, there's rehab, like dudes come back from torn
a c l s and are fine. Right. So to
get a discounted rate with Jamison Williams, especially for a
wide receiver needy team, that could be huge. They could
actually be a blessing in disguise for Jamison Williams. Think
about that. What if he ends up slipping a bit?
(38:19):
Obviously that hurts his money, it's not all good. But
what if he ends up on a team like the
Packers and all of a sudden, as a rookie, you've
got Aaron Rodgers as your qb um. I don't think
he's gonna be around long enough for the Chiefs to
get him. I think the Chiefs they've got two first
round picks. Maybe they got aggressive and moved up and
got Jamison Williams. That would be pretty interesting. He's not
(38:42):
gonna be Tyree Kill nobody is, but he could be
a pretty special receiver. So I'm curious how far he
slips and what is the scenario for Jamison Williams. But
I would say that is your wild card prospect of
the entire NFL draft. Just how how far does he
lie due to that torn a c L. But if
you're playing the long game, you can get some some
(39:05):
big time value off of a guy like that, if
you're not scared off by the medical real fast, let
me work in. Brian is in Oregon. He's got some
Blazers talk for us. What's going on, Brian? Hey, Brian,
how's it going good? Bud? What's up? Yeah? I was
just wondering, when how long do you think it's gonna
(39:27):
take the Blazers to announce Cronin as the actual GM
the I mean, I mean, I think he's done exactly
what he's exactly what he's looking to do right now. Yeah,
I think uh, I think they should just get I
think I think he should get the job. And I
(39:50):
was wondering if if they do get if they do
get those two lottery picks, are they gonna are they
gonna use them? Are they're gonna trade him? Yeah? Up
here for sure? Man, he you know what our guy, Brian,
I'm gonna go out in a limb and say it
was not drinking mountain dew tonight. You know that's all right? Now,
(40:11):
there's the greatest name of a store in Portland is
called five oh Tree. It's the the area code is
five oh three, and there's like a weed shop that's
five oh tree. It just I don't know, call made
me think of it, but yeah, I think Cronin will
be the new guy, and your guests as good as mine.
Is what the Blazers do with their draft picks. My
(40:32):
guess is the probably using both. But hey, time will tell.
Coming up next, All of a sudden, these NFL games
have much better storylines. Oh what's going on? Lots to do,
lots to do. We gotta get to the chronic complainer,
Luca don chich. I'll tell you what in a few minutes.
Here Ricky a k A. Nick trusted producer of this show.
(40:56):
He just stumbled onto an outstanding idea. And our guy
Chris technical producer, extraordinary, fine tuning it, fine tuning it
like fine wine aging it. He's the p E. D
S of ideas, you know, just enhancing over here. So
we'll get to that great idea and just a little
bit here, but real fast, quick take. Bobby Wagner, new
(41:19):
linebacker of the Los Angeles Rams. He was talking about
the upcoming season and he mentioned something that got me
thinking beyond the Rams. But here, listen to what Bobby
Wagner says about the upcoming season as a member of
l A. Now, A lot of people think that you
know it went into my decision being able to play
the Seahawks. I don't have that much haid in my heart.
(41:40):
I really wanted to be happy, and we wanted to
be you know, close to home and and and stay
on the West Coast. That was important to me. But
playing the Seahawks twice a year was a cherry on top.
I'll make sure they see me every time week later,
so they'll know where I'm at, and I'll make sure
I'll tell them. It won't be a quiet game for me. Okay,
So the cherry on top gets the faith his former team,
(42:01):
and I started thinking about it. I'm like, I don't
know why this hasn't dawned on me earlier, but it
is pretty obvious if you look at all the movement
of this offseason, the trades, free agency, all of that stuff.
These storylines are gonna be fantastic when some of the
players on new teams face their old teams, and some
(42:24):
of the quarterback movement. I mean, the Texans will host
the Browns this upcoming season, and think about that. We
don't know if Deshaun Watson's gonna get suspended. Maybe there's
a chance that he is suspended for six games eight
games and he's not available to go to Houston and
(42:44):
face his former team. But let's just say that Deshaun
Watson is available for that game. What's the response, what's
the reaction. How did the Houston fans treat DeShawn Watson?
You know, do they boo like crazy? Uh? Is this
a Kevin Durant type situation? Remember when Kadi went back
(43:05):
to Oklahoma City and they had all the cupcake signs.
They're just booing him like crazy. I don't think it's
gonna be like that because the dynamics aren't the same.
It's not like Houston was where Okay See was. It's
not like the Texans lost to a team in the
a f C Championship game and then Deshaun went and
(43:27):
joined that other team. It's just not the same thing.
But I'm really curious how Houston would react. There are
a couple of other quarterback storylines like this, Russell Wilson.
The Broncos are at Seattle this year. That's gonna be
tremendous and also a little more subtle, a little more
low key, not as top shelf, but the Washington Commanders.
(43:53):
It still sounds weird. The Commanders are at Indianapolis this season,
so Carson wentz he goes back to Indie and so
obvious storylines with that. I'm curious about Seattle, that's the
one right there. How do they react with Russell Wilson
being back. I think it'll be mostly positive. At worst,
(44:14):
it's a mixed bag, but it's not gonna be anywhere
near Kevin Durant going back to Okay. See, Russell Wilson
meant a ton to that franchise, and I'm sure there
will be some fans that are bent that he forced
to trade. I don't think it's gonna be crazy, but
those storylines, those games are so much more interesting with
those storylines being involved. And those aren't the only ones,
(44:36):
but the quarterback storylines of new team facing the old team,
that's gonna be really interesting. Man eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox is your phone number? I'm Brian no
here on Fox Sports Radio. I will get to this
amazing idea that Ricky came up with, and Chris is
just fine tuning, fine tuning it. But let's go out
(44:59):
to the phones. Here me cho it's in Compton. Shout
out to the CPT wants to check in what's going on?
Miko and the race car driver with the helmet. All,
I mean, that's what you got to teach our kids too.
You don't just hit people in their head. They got
body shots. You know, you should have hit him in
his ribs, he get a you know, gave him the
(45:20):
family jewels. He had ninety percent of body to attack,
even though the guy still had a helmet. All I mean,
you gotta stop, you know, thinking that all you do
is hit in the face, you know what I mean.
It's like most international guys. You know why you don't
hit a lot of even though race cars mostly American guys.
You don't hit international guys and they head because they
(45:41):
play soccer ball. Have you ever seen a soccer player
hit a soccer ball with his head? So you want
to take body shots? So he should have hit him
in his ribs or gave him the old swift kick
to the family jewels. I'm with you on this one. Right.
Like most of the fights, if you're untrained, you just
go for the face. But you're right, there's a lot
of real estate eight that the other guy had to
(46:02):
work with. And so yeah, I don't want to hear
that he's at this disadvantage because the other guy has
a helmet on. I like you, you're an opportunist over here.
You see opportunity, Miko. You see there is an ab
section that's just right for the picking to be hit
right there. Oh, all fresh meat right there. There's a
lot of meat that without that, even with the helmet on. Yeah,
(46:23):
I'm with you, man, I appreciate you. Check it in definitely.
I love that that fight, man, that NASCAR Axfinity race fight,
I love it. I love the discussion of the dude
who started it had a helmet on and then eventually
throw punches. And there are a lot of people that say, oh,
(46:44):
you can't do that, you can't throw punches with your
helmet on. I'm not on that side. I'm like, if
you walk up on me, if you're starting some stuff
or continuing some stuff, I'm not gonna be like I
would hit you, but I have a helmet on, and
that's just that's not gonna work. Like these rules with fighting,
it's a fight, you know. You walk up on me,
(47:05):
it's a game changer. And I like what Miko was
saying right there. For the guy that wasn't wearing the helmet,
you got real estate to work with. I've said for
a long long time, I've given this up, but for
a long time I know it would hurt. I get it,
But I've never been hit in the stomach. I've been,
you know, in a handful of fights, and I contend
(47:29):
anybody who doesn't have training, you just go for the face.
You just go for the face. I've never been hit
in the stomach. I've never been hit close to the stomach.
And I'm like, I know it would hurt like crazy.
I just don't know how much it would hurt. That
went out with my dad would grabbed some food the
other week and he said something like he'd rather get
hit in the face like a hundred two hundred times
(47:51):
before getting hit in the stomach. Like he's doing this
doing like an old bare knuckle boxing matches way back
when he's like, oh, be it's the worst it's the
absolute worst. So to Miko's point, this could have been
a blessing in disguise. You know, helmet guys throwing punches
at your face. You dropped out boom, You work the body,
(48:13):
You work the body, Like Teddy Atlas says, all right,
now here is the tremendous idea. Make sure you're sitting
down for this because this could change the the scope
of radio history, right, could change the path of radio's future. Here. So,
I don't know how Ricky thought of this trusted producer.
(48:34):
He's like, you know what you should do. You should
do only small market radio. And I'm like, wait, what
what are you talking about? And I don't know what
started this, do you know, Ricky? Was it the Laker talk.
I'm not sure what started this idea? It was it
was the last color we had. It was that Trailblazers. Yeah,
(48:55):
Brian and Oregon talked about the Blazers and you know,
I really want to ask about the GM job for
the Trailblazers, right, And Ricky was like, I say, you
just keep riding this train, you know. And so it's
like nothing but small market radio and I'm like, you
know what you might be onto something Chris has pitched
in a lot, but I'm thinking maybe maybe, And this
(49:18):
is just, you know, it's a grassroots effort right now.
We're just getting this idea off the ground. But there's
something here. There are plenty of people that will call
in and be like, oh my gosh, more Lakers enough,
what about the Grizzlies or whatever? And so I'm thinking
maybe the second segment of the second hour, this is
a running bit where it's nothing but small market radio.
(49:42):
We're getting imaging together right now. Yes, you like it, Chris,
You've said, you know, a little banjo in the background,
maybe a cow mooing something like that. Listen. I'm I'm
a Detroit sports fan. Like I I know well the
pain of the small market guy, and I also know
how crazy it may to them. Sometimes they really want
to call in to talk about the San Antonio Spurs,
(50:04):
even when it's the NFL season. Now here's the thing
you gotta think of, because this is the moment to
shine for a lot of sports fans. You know, the
Spurs fan, the Milwaukee Brewers fan who just wants to
talk about their team. Sacramento Kings, where are you at? Yeah,
(50:24):
they're gonna be lining up to call in and I'm
not gonna know what they're talking about. Do I just
b s my way through that? Do I hit him
with honesty, like, Yo, I haven't watched the Brewers game
this year. I have no idea what you're talking about
right now. I don't know how I would handle it,
but I love the concept. It's gonna require a mix
(50:45):
of strong googling and giving these guys the floor and
just kind of going along with Yeah, I know I
know nothing about the Suns, but you know what, let's
talk about how they're the best team in the West. Yeah.
Maybe it's like this. We set it up where the caller,
you have a take, You're not asking questions, you've got
to take, and then if I know what you're talking about,
I'll add my two cents. If not, then we just
(51:07):
go to the next caller. Boom, everybody wins. Right, small
market radio, no big brands. Think about Notre Dame football.
It's a small market, but it's a big brand. Nope,
can't talk about that, and we'll shun everybody who wants
to talk big brands for the small market radio segment.
You know that is not the time to call in
(51:28):
about the Lakers. It's not the time to call in
about Duke basketball or Alabama football. No, no, no, we
will have none of that during small market radio. I
think it's a winning idea. I can start hearing imaging
in my head already. Veto is just gonna crank something
now that is legendary. Yeah, there you go. Oh you
(51:51):
know what else would be an animal sound effect that
symbolizes small market radio? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I like that, Chris,
I like where you going? I I hear hooves, you know,
I hear horses hooves going in my head. Yeah. I
(52:13):
don't know if a peacock would symbolize small market radio.
Probably not, probably not, No, no, no, probably not. I
mean Miami there, there's gonna be some interesting situations here
because Miami is like a big city but for most
of their sports, We're not going to be caught dead
talking about the Miami Heat, especially now that le Bron's gone.
That's true, it's a fringe team, but too big of
(52:34):
a market to what about the Like we're gonna talk
about the Marlins man Like that's a tweener, Like that's
the only time we would I think he raised a
good point because I think, like, especially for baseball, when
you say small market that includes a lot of cities,
they're still big, but like you're never gonna talk about
them unless they're like the Dodgers, the Giants, the Yankees,
(52:58):
the Braves. Get some Tampa Bay Rays talks turned into
a hockey segment, you know, do all the hockey fans. Yeah,
the floodgates are open for everyone who wants to talk
about NHL, Yeah, Nascar, Yeah, Formula one. It's all on
the table for small market radio. I'm excited, man, this
(53:19):
is tremendous idea by you, Ricky. Great Chris, very well done,
very well done. All right, Coming up next, is history
about to repeat itself in the NFL season. A couple
of teams could be this year's version of what happened
last year. So we'll dive into that. I'm Brian no
(53:40):
keep it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm
Brian No here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm gonna get
to the calls momentarily here, but let me pay this off.
Possible history repeating in the NFL. Last year, you saw
history repeating. Actually, this was one of the reasons I
actually like the Rams where their season played out strikingly
(54:06):
similarly to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If you looked at
how those two seasons lined up, where the obvious Tampa
upgraded big time with Tom Brady a couple of years ago.
Last year, big upgrade for the Rams bringing in Matthew Stafford,
and it was just weird stuff. Where Tampa had their
(54:26):
lull during weeks nine through twelve, that was the exact
same time span that the Rams had their lull this
past season. And then other things where the Super Bowl
is in their home stadium. Just there were so many similarities.
There are a lot of things that just lined up.
And the Rams they were the Tampa Bay of right,
(54:51):
they were that year's version. So could that happen this year?
What's that song about history repeating? Been a history? Right? Yeah?
So how might history repeat itself in the NFL this season?
I've got two teams for you. One, I think that
(55:12):
the rate Is could be the version of the Arizona
Cardinals last year, meaning this before the season, Arizona last year. Right,
many thought they would finish last because you look at
all the other teams. They're tough, ramsad Matthew Stafford, the Niners,
(55:35):
they were incredibly banged up the season prior. If they're
blessed with better injury luck, they're gonna be tough. Seattle
with Russell Wilson, they always seem to win ten plus games.
So a lot of people had Arizona finishing last, and
they finished second. They won eleven games. They surprised a
lot of people being a playoff team. I think the
(55:56):
Raiders could be that team this coming season where it's
similar in the a f C West. You look and
you say, well, Chiefs are still gonna be really, really tough.
Chargers are getting better justin Herbert had an outstanding season,
and look at what they've done with the defense. Bringing
J C. Jackson, Khalil Mack, Sebastian Joseph Day is going
(56:18):
to help out that horrible run defense. You got a
lot to work with right there. Then you look at Denver,
they bring in Russell Wilson, so process of elimination, they're
gonna be a lot of people that have the Raiders
finishing last. Now I got news for you. They could
be the version of what we saw from the Arizona
(56:38):
Cardinals last year. That's quite possible. There's another example here.
Maybe history repeats itself again. How about the Baltimore Ravens.
They could be the version of the forty Niners last year,
(57:00):
where mainly from an injury standpoint two years ago, the
Niners had so many injuries they were a mash unit
and they were like a six and ten team roughly
something like that. And you look at Baltimore. They lost
their final five games injuries galore. It was absurd. Lamar
(57:21):
Jackson cornerbacks, right, Marcus Peters didn't play at all. Marlon
Humphrey goes down during the season. They're running backs before
the season even started. They're losing running backs left and right.
Like being the drummer of spinal tap. There's fallen away, right.
If the Ravens have better injury luck in two, I
would not be surprised at all if they're the forty
(57:43):
Niners version of Is it possible you could see the
Ravens going deep into the playoffs. Let's not forget the
Niners didn't win their division. They just got into the
dance and then they got all the way to the
NFC Championship game. Can we see that from the Ravens? Hey,
maybe the Bengals they run it back and they win
(58:04):
the a f C North again, or maybe the Browns
have got a very talented roster. We'll see if the
Shawn is suspended, and even if he is, can they
at least go five hundred while Jacoby Brissette is in there?
They still have a chance to win the division. So
let's say the Ravens don't win the division. Could they
still go on a Niners like run and being the
(58:25):
a f C Championship game. Yeah, it's possible. I could
see the Ravens being the version of San Francisco. So
just a couple of possibilities to throw out there. Yeah,
by the way, a little fun fact here, So that
song it is from the propeller Heads featuring MS Shirley Bassie.
(58:51):
Now here's the thing. I don't know about you. I've
never heard of the propeller Heads in my life. It
is a fun factor right there, I haven't you're all
about it. So they really only had I think one album,
but that album was like part of the whole Big
Beats in the nineties. But they were in if you've
watched The Matrix, the first one they were in, like
(59:12):
that scene with them shooting up what is the lobby? Yeah,
that's propeller Heads, that spy break the song is yes, yeah,
or were they agents? They were? Also the song that
was going on in the background, that was that was
that was propeller Heads. I was just hoping they would
have thrown them in the movie also, you know, didn't happen, though,
It's unfortunate. Look at you being all over the propeller Heads.
(59:35):
I think I've told you before, like that was my
music growing up. I liked a lot of like rock,
but I like the big beat stuff. Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers,
propeller Heads. That was like, hold on, let me, let
me get this set up right here, you go. Oh yeah,
I can just I can picture like the cart wheel
and the slow motion shoot them up in the lobby.
(59:58):
Oh yeah, the pillars exploding in everything. Yeah. Wow. So
they were doing it's almost like swing music for that
history repeating song. You know, they were trying to play
then to Shirley Bassie's like you know reperts are when
they wrote the song good I'm clapping for you, Chris,
very good job, Shirley Bassie. Because my dad was really
(01:00:21):
in the Bond movies, so as soon as you heard
me play at once, he had to suddenly start talking
about thunderball. Man, dude, look at you see all this
random knowledge. You should be on Jeopardy. This is some
of the stuff that you gain because you do things
like read the South China Morning News or what is
that thing calling it's so close South China Morning Post. Gosh,
(01:00:43):
I can never get that right the Morning Post. One
of these days, I'm gonna get it. I'm gonna get
it one of these days. All right, let's before we
get to k fig, let's welcome in our guy Gunner.
He's in Minnesota Wolves first know this is hey man,
this might be the exact time that we do small
(01:01:03):
market radio. Huh. It might be a weekly bit over here. Gunner,
Welcome to Fox Sports Radio. Man. How you doing. I'm
doing just mine, just win the win this last game
on Sunday. Yeah, you're feeling confident. Huh, Yes I am. Now, Gunner,
I just have to tell you you were predicting seven
to no down the stretch, and so far your Timberwolves
(01:01:26):
are three and three. Hey, they have they have that
one win they need. I know, it's down to it.
They are forty six and thirty five. They've got to
beat my bulls now here's what's good for you. The
Bulls haven't beaten anybody lately. They are losing left and right.
(01:01:47):
That's all content was this whole. Yes, I told you
they were went exactly seven. Now I have a bone
to pick with you, Gunner, because you made you made
a prediction. Here here's a brief portion of what you
said when you were going with the your Timberwolves to
go seven and o down the stretch they host the Wizards.
(01:02:08):
That's a laughing win. Yeah, you guys lost. You lost
by eighteen boints at home to the Wizard's Gunner. Here's
the thing. I was hoping this one. It happened before
them when Jay mcdiald's got injured and then talents can't
say I'll follow in trouble. That hurt us in that game.
But now just coming back that only win me a minute.
(01:02:30):
That's he's picked word team. I think it's just hilarious
that you were calling forty seven wins and it literally
is down to the last game whether they get there
or they don't. That's awesome. Now you're feeling confident about
the Clippers game. That's probably gonna be the playing matches.
I am very confident that game. Want be Ben Moller's
Clippers and not come to playing the I don't know
(01:02:54):
if it's gonna work out, man, I don't know. Paul
George back, Clippers has been playing better basketball. Paul George
has come back. But we have a we have a
fully healthy team though. Yeah, you have a full healthy
team that lost to the Wizards by eighteen points recently.
Daniel has just come back. You won't be on after
that game too, yeah, Okay, So you're feeling confident here.
(01:03:16):
Do you want to go on record and make a
prediction or are you a little bit worried? Are you
worried that you're jinxing your favorite team? You were saying
seven or oh they're three and three? So are you
backing off of a prediction against the Clippers. No, I'm not.
I'm seeing her win that game and go against the Grizzlies,
And I'm not gonna go over board and say that
woud be the Grizzlies because that's a bit tough. Okay,
(01:03:39):
all right, that would be really tough. One step at
a time. Now, before you go gonna refresh our memory,
there's no taco bell in your area? Or is it
another runner's not there's an hour one hour one way,
and we're not another way. What city is it, Montenayer,
How big is that city? It's not your big. There
(01:04:03):
are taco bells everywhere, man, I can't believe you've got
to go an hour in either direction to get hit
hit a bell, you know. Yeah, we have around my area.
We have McDonald's, Hardy's and Arby's and Okay, now this
is this is compelling stuff right here. I want you
to you know, the other callers they can wait, you know,
(01:04:25):
we'll get to other content later. This is the hard
hitting stuff here, Gunner. I want you to rank your
personal one too fast food places? What is your personal favorite?
What you have at your disposal over there? Oh? My
area don't much so um, I'm gonna go it's Arby's
(01:04:50):
and then uh Dald's second. Okay, Arby's, McDonald's. Fair enough,
fair enough. It doesn't sound like there's a whole lot
over there, Gunner. If I went about half more away,
there's there's a few more areas. Very nice, very nice.
By the way, what's the go to at Arby's? What
(01:05:11):
do you get down with when you go there? And
I'm feeling for it. No, I don't go there as much. Yea,
what do you do roast beef sandwich? What do you do?
You go there? It's number one stuff? What is it?
Chairy beef? Okay, nice curly fries? Yeah, hey, hey, hey hey,
(01:05:35):
you settled down, Chris. You know what you so, you
know what. I'll tell you this, Gunner. Here's the thing.
If it's available almost every time I go to Dairy
Queen cherry Sunday chop nuts. Here's the thing that I've
found out. Oh, they're not available in a lot of places.
It's very hit or miss. It's a cost thing. A
(01:05:56):
lot of them have cut back. We have them. That's see.
You got that going for you? Absolutely do? All right, Gunter.
I would say good luck to your Timberwolves if I
gotta be honest, I'm rooting for them to lose against
the bulls. So they do not reach forty seven wins.
Uh there, because I reach it. I'm not gonna say
the predicting a score because it's a bit close. Okay,
(01:06:18):
all right, man, you have a good one, Gunner. Appreciate
and checking in there. He is our guy, Gunner. Very nice.
All right, let's welcome in Kevin figures he's got a
sports update for us and we'll talk fast food afterward.
What's going on, Kix. I'm looking forward to that for sure.
I was also looking forward to the start of the
baseball season got started on Thursday, Friday Day to second
night in the Row. The Padres no hit Arizona through
(01:06:39):
six innings. Shaman I actually no hit him through seven
before giving way to the Padre bullpen. The Snakes would
muster a couple of hits. The San Diego did come
away with a three nothing victory. Five home runs for
the Astros. They collaborate the Angels thirteen to six and Anaheim.
Former national Max Scherzer win six innings against his former
team as the Mets beat Washington. Toronto overcame a seven
(01:07:00):
run deficit to beat Texas ten to eight. Walker Bueller
and the Dodgers beat Colorado five to three. New Dodger
closer Craig Kimberrell with to say Robbery Ray struck out
five and setting seven innings, leading Seattle over Minnesota at
the master of Scottie Scheffler as a five stroke lead
over Headecki, matsu Yama and three others. Tiger Woods one
over for the tournament and made the cuts. Jordan speed
(01:07:20):
Brooks kept cutting, Bryson Deshambo missed the cut. In the
NBA Kevin Durants for thirty six points for the Nets,
leading them over Cleveland, while the Sons overcame a seventeen
point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Jazz. Back to Brian, No,
do you get down with the arbeasts, Kate fig No,
not a hard pass. Yeah, their fries are okay, but
(01:07:41):
they're sandwiches hard pass. Yeah, wow, okay. Do you have
any other like hot fast food takes either you're all
about one place or all against another one. Well, I
believe we've talked about it on this show, if not
this one, many other shows on the network. My disdain
is a strong word, but I will say the In
and Out is extremely overrated. Yeah that is. That is, Yes,
(01:08:03):
your hardcore stance right there. I'm with you on their fries.
Their fries stink. But man, dude, they're burgers are legit
go overrated. You just they're they're fine, They're not bad,
They're just it's not worth me sitting in line, you know,
the line hanging out the the the entire driveway into
the street, backing up traffic to sit and wait. Dude,
it's not that special. I'll tell you what. Chick fil
(01:08:25):
A is like a NASCAR pit crew. They are efficient,
just a moving, moving move. I've been to so many
fast food restaurants where I'm like, you guys have no
excuse for being this slow. This is why I'm gonna
probably stop going to Wendy's. Is that reason? Too slow?
Like the last two years, I've gone to the Wendy
(01:08:45):
like three different Wendy spots near me. They they just
they take forever. I don't I don't know what it is.
Once I get my order, I'm fine, But like everyone
before me, it seems take fifteen minutes. Yeah, and it's
not spoiled. It's just not good enough to wait that long,
is my problem. I've gone to Chick fil A where
it's a mean line. It's like a club. They're basically
(01:09:08):
you know, and it's it moves. They keep it flying.
That's what I love. Yeah, absolutely, dude. I got it
down to a science, no doubt, and similar you know,
to in and out. It's not like they have the
deepest menu in the world, which you would think you
can work more efficiently if you do. But in and
out is pretty slow too, And that's that's the part
I don't understand. They don't have that much. I know
they have their secret menu, but other than that, I mean,
(01:09:30):
for the most part, you know exactly what they're serving up.
It shouldn't take that long. It really shouldn't. Jack in
the Box is like a menu that's like a mile long. Somehow,
you get out of there in two minutes. Everything is
pre made sitting under a heating light and before you
get there. Well, that's the thing about in and out
is it's all fresh, by the way, you know, k fig.
That brings me back. My first real job when I
(01:09:52):
was a kid was at Burger King and they preached
FIFO like f I F which is first in, first out.
So you would have these burgers kind of like you're saying,
under a heating lamp, or they put it in this
little bin or whatever. So like whatever whichever was the
first burger that was in. Um Like it's kind of
(01:10:15):
like a conveyor belt, right if that makes any sense,
Like you've got to take it's really like the last
one in is the first one out, so you keep
it as as fresh as possible. So you don't have
something that's sitting in there for abnormally long. Right now,
we'll say because I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong.
Burger King's slogan for a while was have it your way,
was it? That's right? So how do you have a
(01:10:35):
pre made sandwich? If someone rolls up and says, yeah,
one a whopper, but no pickles, and you have eighteen
whoppers lined up on the conveyor belt, but they all
have pickles on them, that's right. Yeah, well they didn't.
They didn't have it like that. It was just like
a sandwich in this little tub area. And then you
would put all this stuff on because some people would
have specifications. I gotta tell you two quick stories while
(01:10:58):
I'm on this k FIG. So one, first off, I'm
a complete moron. I'll never forget this is great. So
someone pulls up to the drive through and they ordered
two bottom buns, and I'm like, all right, cool. So
so I literally I just added an extra bun on
(01:11:18):
the bottom. And so later on a co worker goes
up to me is like, you'll never believe this. Some
idiot gave a guy to bottom buns. Like a lot
of these people can't eat sesame seeds, and so they
order like the top bun to be replaced by a
bottom bun, and I just had to play it off,
(01:11:39):
like what a moron you would do that. I think
that I had no idea what they were talking about.
You know, that takes half of your way to another
level to bottom buns, Like, yeah, I know it right.
And the other thing I remember, I'll never forget this.
It's probably my first day on the job, and they
make you watch these training videos, and the training videos
it's like they're showing you how to apply the catchup
(01:12:02):
and it's like a small circle that just expands expands,
and then maybe if there's mustard, you put it inside
and it's just neatly done, just a circle upon a circle.
And the first uh, you know, like trainer was I
was shadowing him and he like opens up the burger
and he puts a smiley face and catchup and my
(01:12:23):
eyes bug out, like that's not what we were trained
and I am like, duh, no kidding, we don't do
that in real life. It was just hilarious how that
played out. You gotta find a way to entertain yourself,
you know, I like you stick figures or something with
the catchup on the burger. The process of person was
eating is not gonna notice it anyway, so who cares.
It's just so funny if you work those jobs growing up. Um,
(01:12:45):
And it didn't take long until I was not doing
it the way the training video was suggesting that you should.
I worked at a rib joint, Damon's. It's the place
for ribs in South Bend. Was a sports bar, was great,
but I was dishwashers one of my first jobs, right,
and we would take breaks. I don't know why I
would do this ki to this day, I have no idea,
(01:13:08):
but people are walking in and one of my buddies
and I we would just be like we got roaches.
I have no idea why we would say that. And
there's just why it would be like a little family,
like a little boy, little girl, family of four walking in,
We're like we got lizards, and they look at us
like are you guys okay? Like what? No one said
(01:13:32):
anything to it. I don't know why we thought that
was entertaining at the time. I don't order the number four.
That's not beef, that's not pork. I don't know what
it is, but it ain't that to this day. Like
my buddy Mike, I'll see it on Facebook. He'll have
a birthday whatever, and I'll send him I'll be like, happy,
Happy be day. But I'll be like, we got roaches, lizards,
(01:13:56):
we got snakes. I don't know why we would say
that to customers. I feel like it a job like
that you kind of have to find You're you're probably
making pennies at the time. You know, you're trying to
find a way to entertain yourself, you know, is what
it is. It's a it's a very repetitive job, not
a very fun job washing dishes. So whatever you can
do to get your kicks. It makes sense to me.
You're probably you're in your are you are you a
(01:14:16):
kid or like in your teams at the time. I've
had to be a teenager at the time. Makes total
sense to me. And yeah, it's like we would have
these tubs like the stainless steel. It's just like the
rib sauce. It's just caked on their. Dude, I've got
just a mountain of dishes that need to be washed
and I'm trying my best to keep up and it's
(01:14:38):
just not happening, you know, And you take a break,
and I think you just lost half your sanity, you know,
I think that's what happened there. Yeah, it's a thankless job,
So find whatever you can. Maybe you're discouraging. Customers will
be coming in so you don't have to clean up
the giant vat of stuff that, you know, barbecue sauce.
Save me from my misery. Gladly sit back here and
collect the check and not do anything. Don't come in.
(01:15:00):
You know, I think you diagnosed the problem quite well there,
k fig. I think a lot of that was that
play good stuff all right? Coming up next, just how
bad was this season for a team? Well, the betting
market shed some light. I'm Brian No, Keep it liked,
Keep it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio. Fox
Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
(01:15:22):
Catch all of our shows at Fox sports Radio dot
com and within the I Heart Radio app search f
s R to listen live. I'm Brian No here on
Fox Sports Radio. You're all gonna ask you every time? Now?
Is this the Propeller Heads? Chris? Every single time? I
was originally gonna bounce back with them, but someone saw
our mention of Crystal method on Twitter and gave us
(01:15:44):
a thumbs up. So I'm like, all right, I'm coming
back with high roller. Look at you, Mr nice guy,
I think, shout out to him. He's definitely man. We
go way back, Mr Knights Guy, where I was doing
the weekend overnight shift years and years ago. It's like team,
you know, shout out to Mr Nice guy. It's been around,
it's been around. Good stuff. I'm gonna get to um
(01:16:08):
just how bad the season was for a certain team
the betting market. Oh gosh it, lets you know how
horrible it was. But first, you know, I like being
interactive here on the show. Jim is over in West
Virginia went to chime in. What's going on, Jim, Welcome
to Fox Sports Radio. Good morning. Hey. I was just wondering,
since Amazon is supposed to be carrying Thursday Night football
(01:16:30):
next year, do you think there's a chance that the
NFL network will share the games over again or anybody else.
That's a great question. Um, I would think after the
fact that NFL network would, you know, I think that's possible.
I don't know if it's just going to be exclusive
like forever. I think they would replay those games from
(01:16:53):
time to time. I could be wrong, but that's my
gut feeling. Yeah, I think they'd be shown again on
NFL Network. But good question. Yeah, that's gonna be so different. Man,
I'll tell you what, Like, I don't know about you.
I'm not geeked two be streaming stuff on the regular.
(01:17:14):
If it's like Thursday night football even that it's I'm
just so used to, you know, flipping a channel to
whatever the game is on, but now it's like, hey,
let's huddle around the computer or you know, there was
a game I think it was Amazon. Also, it happened before,
and you can put that on your TV. You can
do that. But it's just a different process. And so
(01:17:35):
if that's how it commonly is going forward, like even
more and more and more, So I'm not I'm not
fired up about that. It's not fired up. Now as
far as the betting market, what it has to say
about the Lakers here, now, there are two big numbers
you have to be aware of. So the Lakers, they
(01:17:56):
were huge favorites to win the Western Conference. They were
at plus one seventy before the season tipped off. They're
not big on betting. It's you lay a hundred bucks,
you would win a hundred and seventy dollars, right, Golden State.
They had the second shortest odds to win the Western Conference.
(01:18:16):
They were at plus four, Like the second shortest odds were,
you know, like two and a half times longer than
the Lakers odds to win the West and the Lakers
didn't even make the playoffs. They didn't even qualify for
the play in the other number here is the betting public.
(01:18:39):
They were just pounding the season win total over for
the Lakers. It was set at fifty two and a
half wins. Nearly nine of the betting handle was on
the over. They thought, oh, fifty three wins, that's easy.
The Lakers record right now is thirty one and forty nine.
(01:19:00):
The Lakers are closer to fifty two losses than they
are fifty two wins. That's unreal. Now, there was one
smart better nostra damas over here on bet MGM, a
better wagered ten thou dollars before the season that the
Lakers would miss the playoffs. So sixteen to one odds,
(01:19:21):
nice little one hundred sixty dollar pay day that I
would have called that better crazy. That's just that's too outlandish,
you know, that's what I would have said before the season,
And sure enough that guy is right, absolutely right now
real quick tweet here. So we're talking about our fledgling segments.
(01:19:42):
Small market radio can't wait for this, you know, that
is the time for the small markets to shine. You
want to talk Grizzlies, basketball, Spurs, basketball, Brewers, baseball. We're
gonna have a lot of fun with this. Creed checks
in and uh, he says, I cannot listen to you
remark that Formula one is a topic for small market.
(01:20:04):
Those guys are the elite, the pinnacle of auto racing,
now understood. It's just it doesn't get a whole lot
of talk on sports radio, you know, so the small
market thing. Maybe I'm who cares. Yeah, yeah, but this does.
Maybe we'll have a committee. Maybe a caller will check
in during small market radio and say I want to
talk Formula one, and the committee will deem it either
(01:20:26):
thumbs up or thumbs down. We'll see, all right, coming
up next, new appreciation and a chronic complainer. Ah, yes,
what's going on? We got a lot to tackle, lots
to tackle. Tiger Woods one of the best sports stories
of the year so far. Really, it's not hyperbole. Not
(01:20:46):
I perboly. If you like positive radio, be prepared to
you know, dry heave over here. I'm gonna get to
Tiger in a second. Also a a Tiger storyline unfolding,
potentially with Rob Gronkowski. I'll give you that in about
six minutes, chronic complainer and about I would say fifteen
(01:21:11):
minutes here. But let's start with Tiger Woods. Start with
Tiger Woods. So the guy's battling, battling over here. He
started off the second round not great, A lot of bogies.
This was actually how the first hole sounded on Sirius
x m p G a tour radio. Puts it back
up the slope, turning left to right, and he just
played a little too much break or had a little
(01:21:33):
too much speed as he missed it on the top edge.
So Tiger Woods will open the second round with a
bogey at the first and that will drop Tiger Woods
back to even par. Yeah, that was a theme at
the beginning. Bogi, bogey, bogie. A lot of bogies at
the beginning. But he righted the ship. He battled. He
only finished plus two on Friday in the second round.
(01:21:55):
This was on fifteen towards the end of his day.
Also again Sirius x MPG A two radio Tiger pulls
it back. It's on the way and it is Hi.
He's hit those putts confidently many of them have been
for par saves. This one for a birdie for Woods
and Tiger is one over chicks off the lead. Shout
out to Tariko by the way sidebar I was on
(01:22:19):
Notre Dame campus. Oh, I don't know a few months ago,
and uh, I just turned to my left. There's Tarriko
just walking on campus. And I don't know about you.
If I don't have something to say, I don't bother.
I should have been like Mike so man anything, I
just didn't come to mind anyway. Shout out to Tarrico.
(01:22:39):
Good call right there. But back to Tiger. Tiger Woods
plus one through two rounds. Let's rewind a little bit.
It was just a couple of weeks before the Masters,
and there were little reports of Tigers. He's, you know,
he's getting out there, he's uh, he's shot nine holes today,
(01:23:01):
and there were just some light whispers of is he
gonna try to give it a go at the Masters?
And at that time I was like, that seems pretty
far fetched. I doubt he's actually gonna play. And then
the more the weeks played out, especially the week leading
up to the start on Thursday, it just seemed obvious
(01:23:22):
he was gonna give it a go. But it wasn't
that long ago, literally like two weeks ago, Max, where
it just sounded outlandish that he would be out there competing.
The guy had this hideous car wreck. His right tibia
and fibula was coming through the skin. Like, sorry to
gross you out over here, but that's where he was at.
(01:23:44):
We're talking plates, rods, all kinds of stuff in his leg,
bed ridden for three months, was in the hospital for
almost a month, possible amputation, and here he is seventeen
months uh later, like between his last p G A
tour event, seventeen month layoff, and here he is plus
(01:24:08):
one after two days at the Masters. It's extraordinary. And
the thing that stands out to me the most is
I think there's this interesting blend of new appreciation. I
think Tiger has a new appreciation, a renewed appreciation for golf.
(01:24:30):
Like again, there's possible amputation bed written. I'm sure at
some point, let's say the immediate after effect of that
car crash I'm sure it wasn't the most pleasant experience.
Right your leg is probably throbbing, throbbing, something serious. It
had to run through his mind, like, am I done?
(01:24:54):
First off? Am I gonna survive? Second off? If I do?
Am I done? My legs crushed right now? And so
for him to fight all the way back and be here,
I think the guy just has a new appreciation for
for golf. It was almost taken away this bad car crash.
He's more talkative now. At the Masters, he'll be asked
(01:25:14):
a question, he'll just expand Tigers. Normally Bill Belichick ish,
you know, not quite, but he's smiling, almost jovial. He'll
answer one question and saying, by the way, while I'm talking,
I'll just talk some more. I think he just has
a new appreciation for golf. And the cool thing is,
I think a lot of fans have a new appreciation
(01:25:35):
for Tiger. It looked quite possible that his career was over,
and for him to be back at this tournament in particular,
it's an awesome story. It really is. Now we'll see
he's talked about his leg hurting a lot more than
he would like it too, and so we'll see if
he can keep it together in round three. It's a
(01:25:55):
lot of walking or a lot of hills, a lot
of wear and tear on that leg, and not a
whole lot of golf building up to this. But man,
that was impressive in round two where he got off
on the wrong foot and it looked like he was
gonna be in jeopardy of missing the cut, but he
battled back made it. It's his twenty second made cut
(01:26:17):
in a row at the Master's the second longest streak,
so shout out to him. I think that's an awesome story,
but a new appreciation on both sides. I think Tiger
for golf and I think a lot of golf fans
for Tiger being back. It's cool how that sinks up together.
I'm Briban Noo here on Fox Sports Radio, and about
ten minutes we'll get to the chronic complainer. He wants
(01:26:39):
to change his ways, but he cannot change his ways,
kind of like the Johnny Manzel of this sport. Remember
when Johnny Football would always say the right thing. It's like, yeah,
you know, I gotta mature. I I can't be making
these bad decisions, and it would sound great, and then
he would go out and screw up again. Like that's
basically this version here. Now it's not like screwing up
(01:27:04):
and you know, doing drugs or it's not like that
type of screwing up, but it's saying the right thing
and doing the wrong thing. That's the comparison. I'll get
that to you in about ten minutes. Well, I'm talking
about Tiger. Let's shift it over here. I see a
common thread between Tiger and Gronk. So Rob Gronkowski on Friday,
(01:27:26):
he said that if he decides to come back in two,
it will only be with Tampa Bay. And so Gronk
is sort of you could see where this road is headed, right,
He's kind of come back and play for Tampa Bay,
but he hasn't fully committed to doing so. We're slowly
(01:27:47):
going down this road of not quite yet. You ever
see the Gladiator, great movie, but at the end of
the movie, one of the uh, the supporting actors, he says,
now yet not yet. That's Gronk. Gronk is like, not
quite yet. Am I gonna say I'm back? And look
(01:28:07):
I get it. He told TMZ this week, he said,
you can't bet all in. We'll give him a pass
on that get We'll just leave it at that, right,
You've got to be fully dedicated. I'm not ready to
do that yet. I'm not going to sign a contract
if I'm not fully ready. Totally fair understood Gronk. If
(01:28:31):
you look at his season last year, fantastic fifty five
catches for over eight hundred yards in six touchdowns, and
the guy missed five games. He had back spasms, cracked ribs,
are punctured lung just like par for the course for Gronk,
you know, but I can fully understand he's got to
be totally committed to come back. And if he's not
(01:28:53):
there yet, then yeah, it's gonna take a little bit
of time, but it's eventually gonna end up with Gronk
is going to play for Tampa. Like spoiler alert, Cronk
is playing for Tampa. This is what it reminds me Tiger.
When it was Tuesday and Tiger is a game time
decision and it seems like he's gonna play, It was
(01:29:14):
like he's obviously going to compete at the Masters, There's
no doubt about it. That's how I feel with Gronk.
Although he's not fully there yet, he's taking steps towards. Yeah,
you know, if I do play in two, it will
be for Tampa. Spoiler alert, Gronk is playing for Tampa
in It's going to happen. Now. The other big news
(01:29:36):
with Gronk, he did announce this week a special return.
I don't even say, let Gronk say it. Check this out.
He told TMZ the following I have a big announcement,
and the announcement is just so incredible. I just don't
even know how to how to announce it. It's just
mind blowing. We will be throwing the second annual Rock
(01:29:58):
Big this year at the end of April April nine
in Las Vegas during the I'll draft. Baby, we're gonna
be looking sexy. My shirt's gonna be off looking ripped
it at ladies back up because Comie I was gonna
be there. But you can sure, look, I mean, how
can you not. Let's go, baby, it's gonna be up
(01:30:19):
and I'll probably DJ two. I'll be dancing everything. There
you go, Gronk beaches back. That's a huge announcement right there.
And what Day two of the NFL Draft can invite
all the NFL draftees to take part at Gronk Beach.
My question is how many do you think will how
many first round draftees stick around and hang out at
(01:30:40):
Gronk Beach. I'm gonna set the over under at one
point five. I'll put that one and a half. I'll
take the under on that. Man. Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe
some draftees will go and hang out there. I do
love that part where in only Gronk Fashion ladies back
up because come, I was gonna be there. But you
can sure look, I mean, how can you not like? Honestly,
(01:31:06):
is that guy with Tom Brady coming back. I'm gonna say,
you know what, I've given my all. I don't have
one more season left in the tank. There's no way
that's gonna be the case. He's gonna play. He'll play
for Tampa. It's bound to happen, all right. Feel free
to check in eight seven seven on Fox. That is
(01:31:27):
your number. You can also hit me up on Twitter
at the no Show Always available for you. We'll get
back to the tweets. Also around the corner, the Johnny
manzil Ish of this sport. He wants to change his ways.
He says he'll change his ways, and then he doesn't
change his ways. We'll get to that right around the corner.
(01:31:49):
I'm Brian no hang with us right here on Fox
Sports Radio. I'm Brian No here on Fox Sports Radio.
Just the propeller Heads there, Chris, is it really? This
is a remix of the Goldfinger theme. I almost thought
about not asking you, and that would be my luck
is you know you're playing the propeller Heads and I
don't ask. Shout out to you, no One. Random music trivia.
(01:32:13):
Very well done by you. That was like what I
wanted to do in college when I first went there.
I want to do like music history and everything. Really,
I know, kidding. Yeah, I my first my freshman year,
I did it. Did a seminar and opera. You know,
it's funny. I have a random story for you. So
I minored in classical guitar and uh, it wasn't like
a heavy workload. I loved it actually. But yeah, I'm
(01:32:36):
a friend of my dorm who did like the Spanish guitar. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
exactly the same thing. Oh it's awesome. But one of
my teachers at the time, I don't know, we got
our signals crossed somehow, and uh, we went into the
main dude's office, and my teacher was like, yeah, Brian's
thinking about being a double major here because I was
(01:32:57):
in communications and then you know, my miner was classical guitar.
And then they laid out the amount of hours it took,
like these credit hours, and I'm like, no, I don't
think I'm gonna be a double major. My teacher was like, oh,
all right, well never mind then, and we just walked
out right. It was something crazy. It's like ninety credit
(01:33:19):
hours or something to be a mujic music major. I'm like, no,
I'm good. I'm not trying to be a double major
at all. But yeah, there we go. A little love
college flashback before I get to the chronic complainer. Shout
out to Francisco. So he hit me up on Twitter
and he just wrote, looks like you closed it down.
(01:33:40):
L m A. Oh, shout out to this guy. I
was mentioning one of my jobs when I was starting out.
It was a dishwasher at a rib joint called Damon's.
My guy Francisco searched for Damon's. He looked it up
on menu picks dot com and he just sent me
a screen shot and it just says Damon's, the place
(01:34:02):
for ribs reported as permanently closed. Find something similar nearby,
And so I was talking about I don't know why
this seemed like a good idea at the time. I'd
be on break and some of the people that were
walking in we just go we got roaches, which was
not true at all. I don't know why that seemed
(01:34:23):
entertaining or a good idea at the time. It's a
mixture of hating my job and being a dumb teenager.
Made no sense whatsoever. But to Francisco's point, it would
be funny if if I had something to do with
the getting closed down. That place has been closed forever, forever.
I'll tell you what a little trip down memory lane
(01:34:44):
I will never forget. We used to call it Damien's. Again.
We were young, no idea why. But Damien's they had
these four huge it was just a projection screen, and
so they had like an NFL Sunday. They'd have four
different games in these huge projector screens. And I'm telling you,
I could hear dubs singing, you know, I could hear harps,
(01:35:09):
I could just hear the the Gregorian chant. I could
hear everything. It was glorious where I just sat there,
like I can see numerous games at the same time
while I'm eating ribs. Yes, all day. It turns out
a lot more fun to eat and watch games than
(01:35:29):
it is to wash dishes. Crazy how that works out.
But yeah, special place in my heart for Damien's the
place for ribs in South Bend. Very nice. Okay. So
the chronic complainer that would be Luca don chich in
Johnny Football. Like fashion, Okay, similar concept, different circumstances. Remember
(01:35:55):
Johnny Football, how he would screw up, he'd do something stupid,
and then he'd say the right things. I gotta be
a lot better. I've got to be more mature, gotta
be smarter. Can't be doing stupid stuff like that anymore.
Time to grow up. And it would sound good and
you're like, I think he gets it now, and then
he would screw up again. Then he would do something
stupid and make a similar mistake. That reminds me of
(01:36:19):
Luca don Chitch. Now he's not boozing, he's not doing drugs,
he's not doing anything crazy like Johnny Manzel was. But
Luca don Chitch he has said, uh, no more technical fouls,
no more arguing with the referees. Nop, just can't do it.
Gotta be better than that. Not happening anymore. Well, Luca,
don chitch. Naughty, naughty, naughty Luca. He was back at it.
(01:36:44):
He picked up his sixteenth technical foul on Friday. Now
it was against the Blazers. Kind of funny because the
Maps were just wrecking the Blazers, as I'm sure is
not hard for you to envision happening. If he didn't
watch the game right, the Blazers of been just a
hot mess. They're basically tanking. Anybody who's good has been
shut down. So the MAVs were leading thirty six to thirteen.
(01:37:08):
It's at the end of the first quarter and Lucas
gonna jack one up in the final seconds at half court,
and it looked like he had a point, looked like
he got undercut from behind. It was a weird play.
He falls down, no foul, and so Luca goes up
to Tony Brothers. He's arguing and Brothers teat him up.
So it's the sixteen technical foul for Luca on the
(01:37:30):
season that triggers an automatic one game suspension. What's significant
about this is that the MAVs are in a battle
with Golden State for the three seed. The MAVs are
a half game behind, and so if Luca is suspended,
then it could lock Dallas into the four seed instead
(01:37:51):
of having a chance to move up to the three seed.
So there is a ripple effect here. It does matter.
Now we'll see the tech could be recent did a
little bit of a shaky tech. Luca has already had
one other technical rescinded this season, so that could happen
and he wouldn't be suspended. But it's just funny because
it wasn't that long ago. Luca. Just last month he
(01:38:16):
declared that he was done complaining to referees. So that's
the old me. I don't do that anymore. That day
is dead dog like, like Denzel said in training Day,
we don't roll like that no more. And that's not
the case. Luca even said this is last month. He
discovered a trick to help prevent him from ranting at officials.
(01:38:40):
His trick was he just starts singing a song in
his head. That's what he says. Did quote. It's a
funny thing. I just start singing a song in my head.
One of my favorite songs I pick and just start
singing and let the frustration pass. I think these last
couple of games, I've been great with officials. If I
(01:39:00):
think I'm filed, I just go to him and talk
to him normal. But that's it. It's got to be
this way. End quote. I get Johnny football fashion. I
have turned a corner. I am a new man. I
have matured. I see the errors of my ways. Can't
be like that anymore. Then, Yet here Luca is complaining
(01:39:21):
to two officials. He is a chronic complainer. He is.
He is a first team All NBA complainer. Who would
be on that first team? You'd have to have Luca.
You'd have to have Lebron. Lebron is a chronic complainer.
You would have to have Damian Lillard, who I love.
(01:39:42):
Dame is an awesome player, But man, he is on
the officials all the time, just NonStop there happy to
be a playoff um chase. Like one season he just said, yeah,
I'm done, I'm not gonna complain, and he didn't for
like the entire playoffs. He just didn't complain. But then
he fell back into it, and man, he complains complaints.
(01:40:05):
But Luca is absolutely first team All NBA complaint. Chris
Paul has got to be on the list. There are
a few players that they are on the officials from
beginning to end of the game, and Luca he's on
that list. By the way, I was hoping that he
was singing like a Slayer song or something like that.
(01:40:26):
That's what's gonna calm him down. It's he said, he
decides between a Slovenian and a Serbian song. That's what
he did. So maybe on Friday he was not singing
the song in his head and he complained a little
bit too much to Tony Brothers. So there you go.
There you go. Well, we'll check this in the playoffs, Like,
(01:40:46):
keep an eye on it, right, because I think that
with Luca sometimes it gets him off his game a
little bit. Now, I don't think I'm reading too far
into that. I really do. I think if you just
say hey, they call you and go my way, but
you're locked in on your game instead of arguing with
(01:41:07):
the officials, I do I think it helps his game.
I think it can be a little bit too distracting
when you're just all over the refs, all over the refs,
it's gotta take your focus away to some degree. So
we'll see if he can do that in the postseason.
Because he's been naughty, naughty sixteen technical fouls in the
(01:41:27):
regular season, and unless the latest one is rescinded, he
will be suspended automatic suspension once you pick up your
sixteen technical foul. So as of right now, that is
the situation for Dallas alright. The situation for us right
now is we are handing the baton to the anchor
leg of this little quartet that we have over here.
(01:41:49):
His name is Kevin Figures, and k fig has an
award winning sports update for us. Thank you, Brian. We'll
start in Major League Baseball from Friday night. Kyle Tucker
of the Astros homer twice. They hammer at the Angels
thirteen to six, and Anaheim Shamania did not allow a
hit in seven innings of work for the Padres. They
shut out Arizona three nothing, three hits for Matt Olsen
new his brave. They get a victory over the Reds.
(01:42:11):
Giants walked off the Marlins six to five, Javier bay
As a walk off single, leading Detroit over the White Sox, Dodgers, Mets, Yankees,
and Blue Jays with victories the Blue Jays, overcoming a
seven run deficit to beat the Rangers ten to eight
second round of the Masters. Number one in the world
Scottie Scheffler's had a five under sixty seven. He has
eight under for the tournament and has a five stroke
lead over four others. That tis a Master's record for
(01:42:33):
the largest lead through thirty six sols. Tiger Woods did
bogey four times on the front nine, but did recover
on the back nine. He's won over for the tournament
and did comfortably make the cut. Notable names who did
not make the cut include Jordan Speed, Brooks Keepka, and
Bryson De Shambo. NBA victories on Friday night for Brooklyn
Phoenix and the Charlotte Hornets. Back to Brian no Man,
Kate Fake, I gotta tell you, I think I'm falling apart, dude.
(01:42:56):
Why is that? I've had these random it I don't
even know if I would call them injuries. They're just
like old man syndrome type stuff. So I finished a
workout and I was just stretching on Friday and I
tweaked my back just a little bit, and I'm like,
how do you how do you mess yourself up? By stretching.
You know, I've I've got this like Sternham thing going
(01:43:19):
on today for no good reason. I haven't done anything.
I just have this weird thing going on in my elbow.
It's like I have tennis elbow, a little bit of tendonitis.
I was just doing a bunch of pull ups. Dude,
I've shut it down for I'm telling you, it's been
about four or five months. I haven't lifted weights, no
pull ups, no nothing. Well, I'm trying to get the
stupid elbow worked out. Kick I'm falling apart months. That's incredible.
(01:43:44):
Have you sought medical help at all? No? It gets
to a certain point where it's like after about three
or four weeks, five weeks, nothing improved, Like, well, maybe
I might need a little outside counsel on what the
issues are here. Yeah. Well, my sister, she's been a
physical therapist. Shows she knows what she's doing. It's giving
me these exercises and all this stuff to do, but
(01:44:04):
they're not helping at all. They are helping, but I
just want to get back to working out. My muscles
have evaporated here, k fig. You know, you know how
we used to bump fists when I was in l
a and my hand was so cold. You would retract
your hand like, man, know what's going on? That would
be your reaction to my lack of muscles Right now,
(01:44:26):
It's just be like what happened? No? Where are you
right now? Look like olive oil from the old Popeye carton?
Just getting bones basically, So it's bad. That is frustrating,
especially when if you're used to being active, working out,
you know, getting a little you know, working a little
sweat in or whatever, being active, and you just can't
do it and your body won't allow you to. It's
when athletes talk about all the time, when the mind,
(01:44:47):
you know, my mind tells me I'm twenty five, of
my body says, no, you're forty two. You need to
sit down. It's sad, right. Have you had any old
man injuries creep up on you? Um? No, not that
I could think of, not going every piece of wood
in the studio that I could possibly find at this point,
you know, little aches and pains will pop up here
and there, But I chalk that up to you know,
(01:45:07):
the rigors of just you know, whether you're working out
or being active, you jump up and maybe twist something
that maybe it wouldn't have hurt ten years ago when
it does now. But thankfully it's been nothing too serious
or debilitating. I can say that for now. What I've
got a good old man injury story for you. And
I was a younger man. This is at least a
decade ago. I was in Albany, New York. I was
(01:45:30):
working there at the time, and the phone rang, and
so I reached to pick up the phone that was
sitting on a desk and I'm I'm not even kidding, Kate,
fig I hear this pop in my head and like
my back just went out and I just sunk down
on my chair. I'm like, ha ha ha, and my
coworks is like, what are you doing right now? My back?
(01:45:53):
I don't know what happened to my lower back, but
it was on fire, and for a good four days
or so, I could not stand completely up. I was
hunched over at like not quite a ninety degree angle,
but like I could not straighten my back. I have
no idea what I did. It passed, no big deal,
but I was like in my early thirties at the time,
(01:46:16):
and my back went out for no good reason and
it just basically snapped back one day, you just rolled
out a bed and just feeling fresh and free, like, yeah,
probably just back to you know what, this is the
show of me doing stupid things. I'm noticing this. This
is another one of the stupid things I did. K Fig.
You'll laugh at me. This is such a stupid thing.
I was driving back to college. So I went to
(01:46:38):
Ball State. Muncie, Indiana, is about two and a half
hours from my hometown South Bend. And so I'm driving
to college and I thought, you know what, while I'm driving,
I could just play guitar on my right back, you know,
And so it was still safe. I know, I know,
but I'm driving with my left leg, and it's it's
(01:47:00):
just I'm just going straight right, We're just going straight,
no turns, and and I'm I'm twisting my back and
i have my guitar in the entire car, and I'm
just jamming. I'm jamming as I'm driving, jamming and driving.
And the next day I woke up and my lower
back is on fire. It was a pretzel, k Fig.
(01:47:21):
Because I didn't realize I was twisting my back to
contort my body to drive with my leg and play
guitar at the same time, my back was just wretched,
and I deserve it based on everything I just explained
to you. But man, I'm telling you lower back stuff,
no joke. Have you try and mixing in some some
(01:47:43):
yoga practice that's really good for the lower back. You
know what, That's a good idea. I'm gonna write that down.
I'm gonna write that down. But I can't imagine really
if you think about Tiger Woods and all the back
problems that he's had, like major back problems, fusion surgeries,
like all this stuff. Golf on a back one of
(01:48:04):
the worst things. Yeah, I mean, the big reason why
he has all the back issues is from his years
of golf and the amount of torque and then by
the way his legs snapped. But at that on top
of his back issues, and to be in the situation
he's in now the Masters is incredible. It is. What
a great story he really is. The fact that he
won a couple of years ago and then to come
back this year and to be i mean essentially in
the hunt. He made the cut, He's nine shots off
(01:48:26):
the lead. I know, it's a pretty formidable you know,
it's all hill to climb, but just to be in
the hunt is pretty amazing considering what he's been through.
What is your guests for day three? You know, is
he in the red um? You know? Is it a
plus day for him? He shot at seventy four two
over seventy four in the second round. Um. I think
(01:48:48):
at best, he's probably looking to duplicate what he did
on Friday. I think it's really gonna be really difficult
to kind of go at that same pace. I think
there might have been the element of adrenaline on day one,
and I think a little bit of that tempered on
day two, especially on the front nine. He didn't improve
a little bit on the back end. But I mean,
the body can only take so much. And he get
the practice rounds, and he went through the course a
(01:49:08):
few times last week, and I get it, and I
give him all the credit in the world, but the
human body can only take so much, and his body
has been through a hell of a lot the last
twenty years. I would be amazed if he finds himself
at any higher spot than he is right now. So
I if I had to predict, I'd say he's probably
sitting in that you know, in between you know, one
over to three over, Uh, later today too. You know,
(01:49:31):
this might be a little bit unfair. Cave Fig, I'm
curious what you think about this. I was just thinking
about Tiger. Even if he falls off, Let's say he
has a really bad Day three and that leg isn't
feeling great, I still don't expect him to bow out.
I still think he finishes unless he's just absolutely hurting,
you know, just really messed up. I think that he
(01:49:53):
finishes the tournament, and I just compare that to Lebron.
This isn't I'm not one of these people that just
reaches for a reason to pick on Lebron. I think
there are far too many people that go way too critical,
way too far with their criticisms of Lebron. But I
do think this is fair. If you look at Lebron
with the ankle injury, not playing against Phoenix while they
(01:50:15):
still were alive for the playoffs, think about Tiger. If
you compare Lebron and Tiger, even if Tiger is not
in contention to win the make the Masters, if he
has the equivalent of the ankle injury that Lebron had,
right like, let's just say his right leg is speaking
to him, but he can still go out there and compete.
I think he finishes up. I don't think he says,
(01:50:36):
you know what, I'm not gonna win. It's not in
the cards. Let's just call it a day. I don't
think that happens with Tiger, Yeah, because I think there's
a sense of personal pride. They're being able to say
that I was able to come back for my injury
and actually finish the course. And it's a little bit
different too with Lebron. You know the Lakers that were
were I mean you said they were still in the
way the technically in the playoff race against the Sons
(01:50:58):
the other night, which tells me just how bang up
he actually was to end up missing that game because
it was basically the most important game of the season
for them. Uh. This is basically Tiger versus himself, you
know at this point, and just to tell himself, I
was able to battle back from injury, not knowing if
I was gonna be able to walk again, and to
play a full eight team for an entire weekend to
make the cut. I think he I think he won
(01:51:20):
this weekend already, Brian, and the fact that he was
able to make the cut coming back from where he
came from. But yeah, knowing the kind of fighter that
he is, how stubborn that he is, regardless of where
it sits, He's not gonna bow out to your point
unless he literally just cannot walk because he wants to
be able to say that he finished. And I respect that. Okay,
two predictions here? Uh? For day three? What are you doing?
(01:51:41):
Plus three plus two? I'm gonna go a plus three
form plus three? Okay? And as the current leader, the
number one golfer in the world, he's got a five
stroke lead, the biggest lead, right that sets a record,
ties the biggest lead ever after two days? Yep. Yeah,
does the oldest looking twenty five year old ever created
(01:52:05):
and Scottie Scheffler, does he win this thing? Yeah? He
holds on. The last player who didn't hold on after
having a five stroke lead and lost was all the
way back in nineteen thirty six. Really, I mean now
it's only happened five times. Uh, and everybody except one
guy back in thirty six has held on. I mean,
that's a pretty hefty lead for a golfer as good
(01:52:28):
as Scheffler has been, so that that's a tall order
for anybody to try to overtake him. He would have
to damn your collapse to not win this term right there?
You know what, I'm curious. I'm looking at outright winner
Scotty Scheffler minus one oh five fig you know, almost
even money right there? Do we go all in on
(01:52:48):
if I were able to bet what? You have one
of your no risk bets here? What's a you're gonna
put a no risk bet here on the masks for
the for the last two rounds? Here? Ryan practice bet? Yeah?
I like that. I'm entering it in hopefully we can
right the wrongs from the jazz and their collapse on Friday?
You know what do you say? And Chris, who do
you have? What? I'm just saying, No, No, I'm just
(01:53:09):
saying I I would like to see Matsyama repeat, And
he's like right there if he does, if if Scheffler
does collapse, he's been holding strong? Was he like fourth? Yeah,
he's right there. I believe he's right. He's tied for
second at five shots back with a couple of other
guys in there. So chriswel of the one if you
(01:53:31):
want to get into I mean I'm kind of with
with figg in that like it Scheffler's lead is kind
of historic at this point, but there's some great stories
like just right behind it, who is the some Jayim
who was like getting real strong the first day, and
uh just yeah, I mean we're listening. We're missing some
(01:53:51):
of the heavy hitters like Speef and and those guys
are out. But man boy de Shambo was Shambo kind
of yeah, he shouldn't have competed. So Dunston Johnson's right there,
Eames right there, Maxi Yama's right up on my as
you said, as he said, it'd be a collapse for Cheffler.
I mean, he got even better on round two. He
(01:54:12):
shot sixty seven. He was he was really good, really good. Alright,
coming up next. I read a lot of stuff and
I ran across numerous fun facts that I wanted to
share with you guys. So we'll do a little hodgepodge
right around the corner, including college football, NFL, little baseball nugget,
and Twitter of all things that will be around the corner.
(01:54:34):
Hang with us, Brian no with you right here on
Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports
talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows

Heart Radio app search f s R to listen live.
I'm Brian no Here on Fox Sports Radio Top of
the Hour in just ten minutes. Something I absolutely loved
(01:54:57):
from a team on Friday, just a clinic in professionalism.
I'll get to that at the top of the hour. Now,
I read a lot of stuff. I am big on reading,
and every now and then it's a random assortment of stuff.
It's mostly sports related because you know, host a sports
radio show, but I like to get beyond sports as well,
(01:55:19):
so I'll read stuff that just catches my eye and
I think it's interesting. Now we're compiling this into a nice, nice,
little tidy segment. Just while reading, just fun facts that
I have come across here that I wanted to share
with you. So, Chris Maestro, please if you have any
um I don't know, let's see if you have some
propeller heads. So that works. I like that the NFL music.
(01:55:41):
That works very well. Okay, So we'll start off in
the world of baseball. So you might have seen this.
The Cleveland Guardians. They gave a big contract extension to
Jose Ramirez five years, hundred and twenty four million dollars. Now,
the interesting fun fact here is the Guardians had been
one of five MLB teams that never agreed to a
(01:56:04):
one hundred million dollar contract with the player. So they're
off the list. The four teams that remain, they've never
given out a one hundred million dollar contracts. The Oakland
A's makes sense right, Moneyball, Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals,
and the White Sox. Those are your four teams that
(01:56:26):
have never given out a one hundred million dollar MLB contract.
I found that to be interesting. We move it right along.
Let's go to the world of Twitter unmentioning. What is that? Well,
Twitter has announced it's planning to add a new feature
that will allow users to remove themselves from conversations. So
(01:56:48):
Twitter is testing an unmentioning option. It will give people
the ability to untagged themselves in replies to their initial tweets.
So think about the right. Like you ever hear this
song by Anthrax conton AMH. Sometimes you get caught in
a Twitter conversation. You might post something on Twitter and
(01:57:10):
then one person chimes in, another person chimes in, and
those two people are just having a conversation amongst themselves,
and you happen to be included on every single reply
because they also are replying to you. Right, It's like
being part of a group text that you never signed
up for. So this is great news. Twitter is trying
to develop this where you can just say, all right, guys,
(01:57:31):
you speak amongst yourselves. I don't need a notification every
time that you've include me here. You can hammer this
out a bow out gracefully. All right, let's move it
to football. More fun facts. So you might have heard
that Notre Dame they've added a home game next year
against Tennessee State. It's gonna be the first ever time
(01:57:52):
that Notre Dame has one played in HBCU or an
FCS team. That will be the first ever time that
Notre Dame plays an FCS opponent. So this is the
interesting part. U c l A and Notre Dame, they
were two of the final three FBS teams that never
(01:58:14):
played an FCS opponent. But U c l A. They've
scheduled a couple of games with FCS teams, including Alabama
State that's coming up here shortly. The only FBS school
that has never faced an FCS opponent, that would be USC.
USC has never done it. They have no plans to
do it. We'll see that that happens sometime down the road,
(01:58:38):
but that has not happened yet. Last fun fact, I
didn't know this, so the first part I knew the
Raiders and the Packers they were in the process of
working out a trade for wide receiver Davante Adams. At
one point the Raiders they wanted a draft pick and
(01:58:58):
a player in return. Well, it turns out league rules
don't allow a player that has been hit with the
franchise tag to be traded for another player. It can happen,
it goes against league rules. So with Davanta Adams being
a franchise tagged player, he couldn't be traded for another player.
(01:59:21):
I'm just curious how that conversation played out. Did the
Raiders say to the Packers, Uh, give us a draft
pick and a player for Davante And the Packers are like,
we can What do you mean you can't, Well, there's
this rule that we can't trade a player for a
franchise player. Oh oh, well, give us to draft picks
(01:59:45):
that I guess. I would love to have heard that conversation,
but I didn't know that it did not know that
it Apparently the Raiders didn't either. There wise they wouldn't
have asked initially. There you go, random fun facts for
you all right. Coming up next, something I absolutely loved
from a team on Friday, professionalism to find Oh what's
(02:00:09):
going on? Hope you're enjoying your Saturday morning. Hey, feel
free to hit us up. We are thumbs up on interaction.
We are an interactive friendly show eight seven seven nine
on Fox. That is your phone number. A lot of
ground to cover here in the final hour. Something refreshing
(02:00:31):
from an NBA player being pro boo. Get to that. Also,
a couple of players involved in the same draft class
and where their value is right now. Uh, spoiler alert,
there is a lack of value right now. The NFL
has spoken and not a whole lot of value to
be had there. But let's start off with this. There
(02:00:55):
was such a professional performance on Friday. I just have
to highlight this. And every now and then I look
at a story just from one side instead of the
other side. Sometimes, you know, make sure you're sitting down
for this. Sometimes I miss something that's obvious and just
staring at me in the face. Now I did mention
to Kevin figures I will enter practice bets like I've
(02:01:19):
taken taken betting off for lents, so until Easter, no betting.
It was my sacrifice like shout out to big guns
upstairs this year. Right, I'm like, I like to bet.
I'll be a good uh sacrifice. Not saying it's evil
too bet or anything like that. Normally I will give
up everything but water in terms of drinking, like no soda,
(02:01:42):
no kool aid, no nothing, no, not just water, straight
water for lent. But I thought this year I'll give
up gambling. That would be a good one. So I've
given it up. But what I'll do I will enter
practice bets, right, I will just I will make a
pick as if I'm actually putting money on it. Without
putting money on it, it's just practicing. And so on Friday,
(02:02:05):
my practice bet selection was the Utah Jazz minus three.
They're sitting pretty, They're leading by seventeen points in the
fourth quarter, just dusting Phoenix. Utah was having its way.
And then the fourth quarter happened and my oh min
did the tables turn Phoenix with this dramatic comeback. Now,
(02:02:27):
I had just been looking at it. Man, if I
had put money on Utah, that would have sucked. Right,
but with staring at me in the face. It's not
just Utah's meltdown, as they got outscored thirty six to
thirteen in the fourth quarter. The story is the Phoenix Suns.
(02:02:50):
Think about this. This is the epitome of professionalism. They
already have the one seed locked up. They already have
home courted advantage for the entire postseason locked up. As
long as they're playing a series, they're gonna have home
court advantage. And the Sun's they notched their sixty four
(02:03:11):
win on Friday. They came back from seventeen down in
the fourth quarter on the road against Utah. You know
how easy it would have been just to pack it in.
It's say, you know what, not in the cards tonight, boys,
we're just playing out the string. We'll get him in
the playoffs. But what did the Suns do. They're like,
(02:03:33):
the heck with this, we're playing the game. We might
as well win it. And they come back from seventeen
down on the road in the fourth quarter. Utah was
just abysmal. I believe they were what three for twenty
from the field, and the fourth quarter they could not
buy a shot. And it's this furious comeback by the
(02:03:54):
Phoenix Suns. I'll tell you what, man, I'm impressed by that.
And it doesn't mean that they're gonna win a championship.
It doesn't mean anything other than that is a professional team.
And I think a lot of this stuff traces back
to good habits. It just randomly popped into my head
(02:04:15):
where I go back way back when Hot Tub Time
Machine on. You remember the two thousand seven NFL season.
The Patriots were going for an undefeated record and they
were on the road against the New York Giants. The
Giants had nothing to gain in terms of playoff seating.
They couldn't go higher, couldn't go lower. It was a
(02:04:38):
throwaway game. The Giants easily could have said, you know what,
let's just play our backups. Let's make sure we we're
healthy for the playoffs. But no, they went the other way.
Tom Coughlin, The Giants are like, let's try to win
the game. Let's try to ruin the Patriots quest to
be sixteen and no, and they almost pulled it off.
Giants were in that game. It was a close game.
(02:04:59):
I believe it was great game, great game, but it
was just the professionalism. And then the Giants took that
and carried it into the playoffs and went on a run,
eventually beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Now, if
the Giants hadn't played the Patriots tough in the final
week of the regular season, I don't know that they
(02:05:22):
win the Super Bowl. I don't know if they even
get to the Super Bowl. But the confidence that they gained,
just the pattern where we we're just gonna battle you
no matter what the circumstances. That's what I see from
the Suns. They come back from seventeen down in a
game that has no bearing whatsoever on where they're seated
(02:05:43):
in the playoffs. Nothing, it was just that's what they do.
It's a professional team led by Monty Williams and Chris
Paul and with Chris Paul back, it's gonna be a
tough outcome playoff time. But I just love the habits
that the Sons have created and that they follow. And
you'll see these teams, watch them. The Lakers, they try
(02:06:06):
to just flip a switch. They were sleepwalking throughout the
regular season, and guess what, they couldn't flip the switch.
Injuries had something to do with that. If you look
at the Brooklyn Nets, the Brooklyn Nets are trying to
flip the switch. It's been a mixed bag KD. With
the knee injury, Kyrie being unvaccinated, missing fifty plus games,
(02:06:27):
it's been a whole thing. They're in the play in tournament.
They're trying to scratch their way into the playoffs and
go from there. But they're trying to flip a switch
part way through the season. It's hard to do that,
it is. If you haven't established good habits, sometimes that
follows you and haunts you in the playoffs. If you
(02:06:47):
establish good habits, sometimes that helps you a great deal
come playoff time. So I just love the habits that
the Sons have formed, and with them coming back from
seventeen down on the in Utah, I was preparing my
notes while the game was on. I'm watching the game
here and there, but it stood out to me just
how loud that crowd is. And this isn't some grand discovery.
(02:07:10):
I know the fans and it's a great atmosphere there
in Utah. You go all the way back to the
finals against the Bulls, outstanding atmosphere, but it's just so
loud there. I mean, it's just another incentive for the
Suns to be like, we're down seventeen in the fourth
quarter on the road, it's not working out, and that
(02:07:31):
didn't happen. They battled. I give him credit for that.
I do. I thought that was a professional win in
great habits formed. I'm Brian no here on Fox Sports Radio.
We'll get to the phones here momentarily. In ten minutes.
I want to get to oh Man, there's confidence and
then there's unreasonable confidence. There is a quarterback that I
(02:07:54):
would say has unreasonable confidence. We'll get to that about
ten minutes. Let me pay this off. How about this?
This is refreshing, So Zach Levine of the Chicago Bulls,
the Bulls have just been freaking dreadful my squad. They
can't beat any teams that are good, and they can't
(02:08:14):
beat anybody period. Down the stretch of this regular season,
they've been playing awful basketball. And zach Levine, he was
asked about the home crowd booing the Bulls to what
happened on Friday as they got wrecked by the Charlotte Hornets,
and zach Levine came out and he said that the
Bulls struggles heading into the playoffs are embarrassing and that
(02:08:37):
the booze are justified. I gotta say it's pretty refreshing.
You'll get a lot of these stories. Remember the Mets
given the thumbs down gesture at the fans who were
booing them. That was their version of booing the fans back.
There's some thin skin there was goes back to last
year Danny Green, who was a teammate of Ben Simmons.
He was saying, hey, man, these Philly fans, it's part
(02:08:59):
of the culture. They boo us when we're not playing well.
I think they should ride with us, no matter what.
I get that, but I think it's refreshing for a
player like Zach Levine to be like, yeah, the booze
are justified. We stink right now. It's not like you
should have our back when things aren't going wow. Like,
I think there's something to that, But I also think
(02:09:21):
it's refreshing that a player just owns it and says,
you know what, we're dreadful right now. I get it.
I get why the booze are raining down and we're
allowing the Charlotte Hornets to just rack up points. Galore
I was hammering the the Lakers for giving up eighty
two points and a half to the Dallas Mavericks a
(02:09:42):
couple of weeks ago. That's embarrassing, flat out embarrassing. The
balls gave up pretty close to that in the first
half right around there. I have to look it up,
but it was around eighty two points in the first half.
That should never happen, Ever happened. So I appreciate Zach
Levine taking the first step and saying, yeah, we stink,
we deserve to be booed. I hope that he takes
the second step turns around so there's nothing to boo.
(02:10:04):
But man, these balls are allergic to defense and they
can't beat anybody good in the NBA. I don't see
that's gonna change come playoff time. We got a little
bit of time. Let me get to the phones here
eight seven sex. Matthew is over in Las Vegas. I
want to hear what he has to say. What's going on?
Matt Hey, Brian, are you good? Bud? And I got
(02:10:27):
two things? Two quick things? Um so one Lebron the
whole criticism. To be honest, I feel like these teams
should crack down some of these players, especially when they
want to foot out, and especially to players like Lebron
who you know, he has an injury, he doesn't play,
and then he comes back, and then he doesn't play
a game, and then he comes back, and they should
tell him, you know what, if you're gonna if you're
(02:10:49):
gonna be hurt, then you can't come back for an
X amount of games because it just shows that he
just doesn't want to play and really his reputation. So
I feel like they should tell him, Okay, well, if
you're gonna be out for your ankle and it's that bad,
you should sit out for at least X amount of games.
(02:11:09):
I I hear what you're saying. I just don't think
they would ever work. I just don't think it benefits
the Lakers to do that. I know I feel the
same way, like, if there's something to be done, I
get why you would want it to be done. I
just don't think that would work out the way you
would want it to right. And then the second thing,
Gunner is not gonna like me, but Minnesota can get
knocked down in the first round. It's all about Boston
(02:11:30):
this year. I'm sorry, Boston is too strong in in Minnesota.
Minnesota will always be Minnesota. They're gonna get knocked down
in the first round. Regardless of they play the Suns
or if they're gonna play Memphis, they're getting knocked down
in the first round. One and done. Hunh Yeah, what
do you want to add a cherry on top and
be like, and I'm happy you don't have Taco Bell
in your town? Gunn Er. Do you want to really
(02:11:51):
hit him where it hurts? Yeah? And then I can't
even say the harder and I feel like they're gonna
get swept too from the first I'm not gonna in
a single game. Wow. Okay, I'll relay that message. If
he's not listening, Matthew, I appreciate that. But good stuff
there he is, Matt checking in. I'll tell you what.
Gunner has made Timberwolves basketball a lot more interesting this year.
(02:12:16):
It's just riding hard for that squad, no doubt about that,
our guy Gunner. Yeah, I'll tell you what. The Grizzlies.
I'm impressed. You talk about good habits. They have battled
numerous games without John Morant and uh, it's impressive what
they've done. I think they beat Phoenix. It's funny. I
(02:12:37):
was just waxing poetic about Phoenix with their great comeback
against the Jazz. I think Memphis beat the Suns without
four of their starters. I believe I have that right.
And their coach got uh tossed in that game and
they still want no job Morant, no three other starters
and they're still professional to the point where they're battling.
That's impressive. I'll tell you what. Desmond Baine has had
(02:12:59):
a tremendous reason for the Grizzlies three point marksman. Look
at me. I'm doing small market radio right now. It's
not even the small market radio segment. Let me get
to Travis real fast. He's in Chatsworth. Wants to check in, Travis.
You're on Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Bud? Hey, Brian, Um,
you know you're talking about the baseball teams that haven't
finned any player for a hundred million. Yeah. I kind
(02:13:23):
of wonder for the NBA teams. Are the Grizzlies probably,
but they're probably one of those teams. Oh man, I
don't know off the top of my head, Like yeah, no, no,
for sure, No, it's all good. I just thought about
when you were talking about that. Um, maybe Kevin I'll
hire you to play some classical guitar while his wedding
guests are finding their seats during what That's a good idea, Travis.
(02:13:44):
I've done that twice in my life. So one of
my good friends Joy, Yeah, shout out Jason de Wilkins,
I played in his actual wedding. You'll like this. I
can't remember this song. It might have been they asked
me to play cannon in d It's a very popular
wedding song. I can't remember if it was that song
or something else. But I ran out, like everybody's walking
(02:14:04):
in for the wedding, and I ran out of music,
and so I just played the middle part of To
Live Is to Die by Metallica, and a couple of
my friends are like, they're laughing. They're like, he's playing
Metallica right now. I didn't have anything else to play,
and it fit. But I've done that. I played from
my friend Jay's wedding and also my sister's wedding when
she got married way back when I played these classical
(02:14:26):
pieces during the wedding. Is she the one that's the
physical therapist? That's right? Yeah? Nice, that's awesome. Yeah, man,
So I hey, I'm up for it. If ka Fig
wants a little classical action I can dust off the
classical guitar. Yeah, local shows, Petro some Money keeps talking
(02:14:48):
about Kevin's wedding. Every couple of months they bring him
on and kind of it's it's it's entertaining. Now, what
do you think, Travis? K Fig is open to this?
What if I pull a sitch switch a ru on
on k Fig? What if k Fig and his bride
to be they pick out their music and I'm like,
all right, great and then out of nowhere midway through
(02:15:08):
I switched to an electric guitar and just start rocking
some Slayer. What do you think about that? I don't know.
How do you feel about that? Kevin? Yeah, I don't
know if we if we go for that one, you know, now,
if you want to if you want to go, you know,
take the guitar and go straight Ightie Van Halen solo
from Beat It, Yeah, you know, if you want to
rip one of those and buy all means, let's go. Okay,
(02:15:30):
I'll be down. He can do it. Maybe he can
do it. Smashing pumpkins for Adam. Yeah, he love that
good stuff. Travis. I'd like to suggest YouTube, man, that
is it's a fantastic idea. K fig you know, yeah,
I would't even if you want to drop in and
make have a surprise appearance to the wedding with the guitar.
(02:15:52):
We have a we have a violinist already set up.
So you guys want to get like a little duet
working or something. I don't know, why not remember like
the Devil goes down to Georgia, you know they kind
of have the the dueling. I don't know if it's
Banjo's in that song, whatever it is, do we go duel?
You know, like she's she or he's just busting out
some killer violin stuff. And I'm like, oh, yeah, you
(02:16:13):
think that? How about that? No? No, no no, no, no,
we're just going back and forth? How about that? Uh,
it's a good theory. The problem is I feel like
me and my bride are gonna be standing in the
corner where everybody else is just studying around watching. You
guys were like, what are we chopping liver over here?
What's going on? Right? The more I talk, the more
you're like, you know what? On second though, it's probably
a horrible idea to include No, she just turned into
(02:16:34):
our Brian no concert, That's right, all right? Eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox. That is your phone number
coming up next. There's confidence and then there is unreasonable confidence.
I have a story pertaining to the ladder right around
the corner. I'm Brian No. Keep it locked right here
on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian No. You're on Fox
(02:16:56):
Sports Radio. I don't know what it is, Chris our
technical duce or extraordinary. I picture you driving around southern
California just jamming. Most of the songs you play is
rejoined music here, windows down, just like yeah, you know,
I picture you doing that. Not this week? No, no,
(02:17:17):
this week? Um I uh no, no, it's it's not
something you would predict at all. Okay you um let
me try. Uh you got upset at the Wendy's drive
through waiting too long, You floored it and you hit
a fence post. No, okay, was I close? No? No,
(02:17:38):
I wasn't even talking about an accident. Was just talking
about this music playlist has not been usually what I
drive into. Yeah, no, no, I keep this cultivated just
because I know what like people like. You know certain
things I like. I like this. But I've been listening
to uh again, you will never guess what I listened to.
You right now, what recently or dry having around just
(02:18:00):
driving around m m man. I would love to nail this,
but uh, I'm hoping it's the Propeller Heads. I hope
that's been in the rotation. Um, maybe some old school
Stevie ray Van Huh Nope, No, you can keep going
and you will never get it. Yeah, what is it? Just? Um,
(02:18:23):
I don't even know how to describe it, like people
are just doing kind of old Um. I don't even
know what how to describe it. It's like it's like
someone wants it, wants to do renaissance music. Okay, that's
what you've been getting down to. Huh I guess yeah,
all right, Hey, whatever floats your boat man, whatever I mean,
I go all over the place, so it'll come back around.
(02:18:46):
I tend to go between like techno and rock. So yeah,
all right, um, real fast here, we want to hear
from Sam Donald. He was on the Bussing with the
Boys podcast, and listen to what Sam has to say.
He's evaluating himself. If you will check this out, it
truly is like whatever happens happens, because that's at the
(02:19:06):
end of the day, like it's out of my control
and I know that, and so I have enough security
in myself to where I can be, like I know
him a good quarterback. No, I can be a good
quarterback in this league. I've proved it, and I know
there's a team if something happens that would want me. Huh, okay,
if we go through this step by step or as
(02:19:29):
Denzel said in Man on Fire, piece by piece, one
of my favorite lines, when has Sam Donald proven that
he's a good quarterback in the NFL? Did I miss
something over here? Even if you gave him a free
pass with Gang Green because they didn't exactly have a
who's who's supporting cast around him? What did he exactly
do last year in Carolina? Oh, that's right, he through
(02:19:49):
nine touchdowns and picks. When has he proven he's been
a good quarterback? This is wishful thinking to the end degree.
If look at Sam donald fun factor right here. So
Sam Donald's career passer rating was set is seventy six
point nine. That is the same passer rating last season
(02:20:12):
for Bears quarterback Andy Dalton, who threw eight touchdowns in
nine interceptions. It's the same exact passer rating. That's atrocious.
Dalton was twenty ninth and passer rating last year. That's
Donald's career passer rating. What is this dude talking about?
He hasn't proven anything. If anything, he's proven that he's
not good. He's not proven that he is good or
(02:20:35):
has been productive. Are we're gonna be productive right now?
Before we get to k fix, Let's go out to
the phones. Our guy Cowboy wants to chime in. Let's
do a little Cowboys corner. What's going on, Cowboy? Oh?
Nothing much? Brian, I kind of a Reugh free weekly
and whilst my cousin that was on Monday. And on
(02:20:55):
UH April ninth, Um, Uh be Great, Um Betton and

spoken to on Detroit Radio where ninety five and seventy nine, respectively.
And also Julian Lennon. John Lennon's older son was fifty nine,

on July fifth, seven, Jackie Robinson beat into the big

which were next. I will beary of Jackie Robinson's breaking

(02:23:07):
Never two anyway, Hopefully speak to you people next week.
You've got to be a boy to be a good
stuff cowboy. Condolences too for your cousin passing away. In
all seriousness over everything's okay with the family, but you
know what's crazy with cowboy mentioning all those things. I
(02:23:29):
didn't realize something about Hank Karen, you know, like if
you go back, I was born in seventy seven. I'm
forty four years old. Hank Karon when he became the
all time home run king, that was in nineteen four.
I didn't realize it was that early in the season.
I had no idea, right, Like, there's some things like
(02:23:50):
unless you're just curious beyond belief. I never bothered to
look it up, like, hey, what part of the season was.
I didn't realize that was in April. That's interesting right there,
April eight. So think about how early we are in
this MLB season, and that's how early it was when
(02:24:11):
Hank Aaron broke the record. Like if you weren't alive
at that time, the chances are you probably didn't know that.
I certainly didn't. But fun fact right there, good stuff,
all right, let's uh hand the baton over here to
the anchor leg. This guy has you saying, bolt like speed.
He is our main man. Kevin Figures, who wants me
to play payback from Slayer during his wedding so they
(02:24:33):
can have a happy, blissful life. Take boat like speed
in my mind, certainly not in the physical form. That's
for damn sure. We'll start at the Masters. H Scottie
Scheffler eight under for the tournament, has a five stroke
lead over four others. That five stroke lead, by the way,
TiSER course record through thirties six holes. The last person
to have that five stroke lead heading into Saturday. Jordan's
(02:24:53):
speed back when he won the Masters. That is not
going to happen for him this year. He actually missed
the cut on Friday. A Woods, by the way, didn't
make the cut. At one over. He is in a
tie for nineteenth that nine shots off the lead. Major
League Baseball Padre shut out Arizona three nothing. Astro's over
the Angels thirteen to six Houston at five home runs
in that game, walk off wins for Detroit and the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets,
(02:25:15):
and Phillies with victories as well some big matchups from
the NBA. On Friday Night, the Sun's overcame his seventeen
point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Jazz as Devin
Booker score thirty three point, sixteen points and sixteen assists
for Chris Paul and that victory. Utah with the loss
now tied with Denver for the five seed in the West.
Dallas a half game behind the Warriors for the three
seed after they defeated Portland. Luca Donte did pick up
(02:25:37):
his sixteen technical foul, he would be suspended for the
all important season finale against the Spurs unless that tech
gets rescinded. Brooklyn defeating the Cavaliers and can clinch the
seven seed in the in the East if they defeat
Indiana on Sunday. Back to Brian, No, you know, okay,
fig I gotta throw something at you music wise. Uh,
(02:25:58):
by the way, in about ten and it's I want
to get to a comparison gone wrong with a certain
NFL quarterback. But let's have a little bit of fun here,
k fix. So you know me, I read a lot
of random stuff and I read where Ed Shearon pop
sensation over here's got some good songs. He was in
a legal battle. There was another artist, Sammy Switch, that
(02:26:20):
was claiming he was ripped off by Ed Shearon. He's
saying plagiarism over here. All right, now, we'll get to
the ruling here in a second. But you tell me,
do you think this is a blatant rip off? So
if we go to a couple of songs here, let
me get the choices the selections fired up for you.
(02:26:42):
So this was the Sammy Switch portion that he was
saying was ripped off. Okay, all right, now this is
Ed Shearon song shape of You. Do you claim rip
off their ka fick um? Yeah? It sounds very similar.
(02:27:06):
It sounds extremely sim if nothing else is derivative of
that song. So, I mean, I don't know exactly what
the legalities are as far as you know what legal
copyright is and whether or not you're using the exact
beat or the exact cadence, But I think it's hard
to argue against the fact that it was at least
inspired by that track. Now, this was the ruling. This
(02:27:28):
is what's interesting to me. So they said that, like
Sammy Switches Crew, like their team, they needed to prove
that Ed Shearon had listened to that original song. Otherwise
the similarities would just be a coincidence, which is insane
(02:27:50):
to me. The ruling was Switches Team, it failed to
establish that, oh why had been heard by ed Shearon?
Like what what is that? Why? Why is that the
burden of proof? Like, all you'd have to say is like, no,
I never heard it. You can't disprove that. That's not
How are you supposed to ice with when he ripped
(02:28:15):
off baby the beat? Right? Yeah? Like should he have
just said no, I never heard the original. I don't
know what you're talking about. And they're like judges, Yeah,
it checks out, all right, dismissed. What the hell is that?
I mean, it's if it's clear and obvious, you know,
it's one of those titis, you know, it's like if
it if it looks like a duck and quacks like
(02:28:35):
a duck, it's like, all right, let's be realistic here.
It sounds exactly like it. Now, granted it's part of
the hook of the song. It's not the entire song,
it's not the entire beat. It's a small part of it,
but yet a prominent part of it. And it's clear
as day that shape of You was inspired by that,
by that portion of the song. You can't argue against it.
Let's be really reasonable here. Yeah. I mean, look, it's
(02:29:00):
a crazy thing with music where I think it's got
to be just a blatant, blatant rip off to be plagiarism,
you know, if it's inspired, if it's tweaked. You know.
I've talked to Mark Morton, he's one of the guitarists
of Lamb of God. You know, I mean, I love
the metal stuff. He said that numerous times where I
(02:29:20):
forget what song they exactly have, but it turned out
to be like, oh shoot, there's another band they do
basically the same thing. He didn't even realize he was
doing that, Like that happens all the time in music.
But if it's like just blatant, yeah, there's a line there.
I don't know that it's a blatant, absolute rip off.
Was it inspired? Sure? But the thing that I can't
(02:29:42):
get around is what is this burden of you have
to prove that the artist or the band absolutely heard
the original. How do you approve that? That to me
is just insane. Yeah, there's no way that you can
never prove that. And if that's what, and if that's
what the burden of proof is to win a case
like this, this is gonna happen over and over again. Yeah,
(02:30:02):
and think how many times music it's all about collaborating.
They're all these music writers and it could have been
whoever wrote a portion of the song was like, oh man,
that's a great idea. I can use this and kind
of shape it my way and all that. So what
does it matter if Ed Sheering has heard that that
might even be totally true. He might have never heard
that song, but a dude he collaborated with had and
(02:30:26):
used it and tweaked it. And that's just crazy. One
of his producers could have grabbed it, you know, unbeknownst
to him. Right. You know the thing is, it's so
from what I understand, I'm not in the music industry
like that, But getting clearances to cover, you know, and
pay is not that big of a deal or that
giant ever hurdle these days. So I mean, if you
have worked, you're in a big enough label. I don't
know what label Ed Sheering is with and Scope forever
(02:30:47):
whoever he's with, probably flit the bill to to get
clear clearance to be able to cover something and haveing
not cost him that much money. And I like giant headache, Yeah,
I do like that. Ed Sheering fought this because he's
got plenty of of money to just settle and say
it's not worth the headache. But they fought it and
they won. But I just picture, for whatever reason, a
(02:31:08):
courtroom setting, maybe like you know with Tom Cruise back
in the day, in the courtroom right and Jack Nicholson
is over there, and you're just like Ed Shearon's like no,
never heard that song, and the judges like that, all right,
I guess you're not guilty. It's insane to me, man,
(02:31:28):
I can't get me on that. That's crazy. All right.
We'll close it down in style. Coming up next, there
is a comparison gone wrong with a certain NFL quarterback.
Do not fall into this trap. I'll tell you about
it right around the corner. I'm Brian No. Hang with
us right here on Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio
(02:31:48):
has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch
all of our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com
and within the I Heart Radio app. Search f s
R to listen live. Brian no Here on Ox Sports Radio, Man,
I just saw Jack White the Detroit Tigers. They had
tweeted out Jack White played the national anthem. I didn't
(02:32:10):
know he was from Detroit. It's from around there. It's fantastic.
It's amazing company. Great artists are in Detroit. Once you
just you know, stop paying attention to kid Rock. Yeah. Well,
they performed the national anthem for the before the Tigers game,
had the slide guitar, very Jack White style. Yeah, I
(02:32:31):
saw it all. It was great. It was it was great.
I'll never forget Ben Harper. He this is dated, but um,
it was one of the finals the Spurs were in
and he played the national anthem before a finals game
and it was a slide guitar, and I thought that
was a really really great rendition too. Every now and
then there's some great ones. Man, great one. I retweeted
(02:32:52):
that if you're curious to see it with Jack White.
I remember, I don't remember the name of the artist,
but I think, I mean, I'm going way back, um
in the hot top time machine here. I think it
was the nineteen six World Series was like Cardinals and Tigers.
I forget the name. No no. I bring this up
because I forget the name of the of the artist
(02:33:13):
who played the national anthem. But he played it on
a guitar back then, and it was really he was
like completely criticized up and down for basically disrespecting the anthem,
for playing it on like jazz guitar. Oh wow, I
have to look that up. I don't know about that,
but yeah, I have to. I have to go back
and remember his name. But we'll do our homework there
(02:33:37):
nice now. Unfortunately, well St. Louis, we might be able
to get to that in small market radio next week.
I think it was jose Feliciano. I think I just
looked at up Google, Google helping me out here. Detroit
is too big of a market, you know, so we
would have to see St. Louis like compared to Chicago. Though,
(02:33:58):
really Detroit is too big. It's it's top twenty market
easy too big, too big for small market radio. I mean,
how many times do we talk Pistons on? That's true,
that's gonna be It's gonna be a tough call here
because there might be teams that get glossed over and
aren't talked about, but they're in a bigger market. So
I guess that's why I think we need a committee.
(02:34:20):
I feel like we talk small market, we're just basically
talking about teams that just if I say, hey, we
should lead with this instead the Lakers, you'll be like, no,
how about this off the radar radio maybe off the
grid radio. I don't know. We'll tweak it. We'll tweak it. Now,
there is um there is a compare. There is a
(02:34:42):
quarterback here that can be traded for has not been
traded for because he's not a difference maker. That would
be Baker Mayfield. Now, Chris Collinsworth, he had some recent
comments on the Chris Collinsworth podcast as to a possible
fit for one Baker Mayfield. Check this out. I just
(02:35:03):
still think he ends up in Seattle. It makes too
much sense for him to land in Seattle. Them draft
a quarterback, sit behind Baker, give it a go. If
Baker is good, great, we'll be able to do it.
But it's so similar to the style of play that
Russell Wilson has that you're not gonna have to change
everything on the offensive side of the ball. Okay, now
(02:35:26):
here's the thing this is I disagree with Chris Collinsworth.
I see what he's saying. Of course Baker Mayfield would well,
I shouldn't say of course he would think he'd be
better than Drew Lock, who has been a complete dud
thus far in his NFL career. At least Baker has
been more productive than Drew Lock. Here's where my mind goes.
Sometimes comparisons are not the proper ones. Right where the
(02:35:52):
comparison shouldn't be between Baker Mayfield and Drew Lock. The
comparison should would be between Baker Mayfield and the other
top quarterbacks in the NFC, like Matthew Stafford, like Tom Brady,
like Aaron Rodgers. What does Baker Mayfield do for you
when that's your real competition, when that's the true comparison. Rightly,
(02:36:18):
you understand what I'm saying. You don't just compare Baker
and being always better than Drew Lock. Who cares? What
does that do for you? Anyway? It's about comparing Baker
to the top guys. And if you have to trade
an asset a draft pick on top of paying Baker
no thanks like this. I've been a victim of this myself.
I've learned the hard way as you might have as well,
(02:36:41):
but for the ones who haven't. I used to do
this in my dating lifetime way back when, where I
would look at my current relationship and I would think
it's better than it actually was because I was comparing
it to a past relationship that was bad. Right. So
(02:37:01):
there was a girl that I dated for a little
bit and she was just shady. We'd have plans to
go somewhere, she would cancel on me. It was just
a wreck. It was a disaster. So I started dating
somebody else and I'm like, man, it's so much better.
We have plans to go somewhere and we go there.
It is way better. But I wasn't looking at the
other things that were wrong in the relationship that we're
(02:37:23):
steering at, steering me in the face, right, You understand,
sometimes we're not making the proper comparison. It's not about
me comparing my current relationship to a past one. It's
me comparing my current relationship to other relationships involving other
people that are actually good, and like, that's the proper
comparison to make if you're gonna make one. So you
(02:37:44):
don't compare Baker to Drew Lock. You compare Baker to
the top quarterbacks in the NFC. And if your conclusion is,
which it should be, that he doesn't do anything for you,
when that's the true comparison, then what's the point. It's
a subtle upgrade. So I mean, I would just look
(02:38:06):
beyond Baker versus Drew Lock. That's all I'm telling you. Now,
something else shifting gears before we get on out of here.
I think it's something that bears watching going forward. The
playoffs are getting near Zion Williamson, so he's progressing toward
full court work, and I'm just wondering if the Pelicans
(02:38:26):
are gonna play him. They haven't come out and said anything.
I would think the Pelicans are like, you know, uh,
he's gotta be ready ready, not just ready, like fully
cleared ready, dude? Is good Foot's intact? Because I think
about the nets. They're monitoring Ben Simmons with the back issue,
(02:38:49):
and Steve Nash has said, man, without this guy playing
at all to bring him back, he's gonna miss the
rest of the regular season. It's probably gonna miss the
play in tournament as well. To bring Ben's Simmon's back
in the playoffs, assuming that the Nets take care of
business and qualify. That's a lot to ask when he
hasn't played during the season at all. It's the same
(02:39:09):
thing with Zion. You know, I get it, you want
to make a run in this postseason, but it can't
be at the expense of seriously gambling the future of
both of those dudes. So, I mean, I'm curious with
the Pelicans, especially because it's a little bit of a
more of a fragile situation where if Zion wants to play,
(02:39:30):
he's been working, he's been rehabbing, I want to play,
put me in, put me in a organization, and you're like, no,
don't think it's gonna work. You could damage the possibility
of re upping with the guy. It's a really, really
chick tricky situation. Hey, a lot of fun tonight, um
or this morning, depending on how you look at it.
What we have learned is with this NASCAR Axfinity race,
(02:39:54):
you can punch the other guy in the face if
you do have your helmet on. It is permissible. Every
you have a great morning. We'll catch you later.
