Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're Oh, what's going on everybody? Do you have play
in fever? I have a mean dose of play in
fever over I love. We need Jim Mora to redo
that to play in its not quite the playoffs. Yeah,
(00:23):
play in we need that from Jim Mora. Can we
get that done? I think the play in tournament has
been tremendous for the NBA. More on that in a second.
Feel free to hit us up eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox. That is your phone number eight seven
seven six six three six nine, also on Twitter at
(00:43):
the no Show. So the play in results are in.
We have the final two teams that qualify for the playoffs.
The Hawks, they get a road win shorthanded by the way,
they come back and beat the Calves. They didn't have Capella,
he went down with a hyper extended knee. No John
Collins in that game, but Trey Young ice Trey thirty
(01:06):
eight points, including thirty two in the second half. Very
nice performance by him. Hawks moving on and they get
the one seed Miami Heat. But it's all about the
celebration tonight and also the Pelicans crazy game against the Clippers.
Pels have a big lead, Clippers come storming back then,
the Clippers have a big lead back come to Pelicans.
(01:30):
It was a great game, very entertaining. Pelicans get it
done on the road and they're moving on and they
get the Phoenix Suns. Not the greatest prize to win,
but it was exciting. Let's table the Hawks and Pelicans
for a second and look big picture. I think the
playing tournament is awesome for the n b A. I
(01:53):
don't know about you. If you're watching these games tonight,
I totally forget then it's four of the eight seed.
It's not even on my radar. There's drama, they're big comebacks,
there's a lot of excitement in these buildings. It's not
even at the forefront of my mind that it's like
this is for the eight seed and they're probably gonna
(02:14):
get boat raced in the first round. I'm not even
thinking about that. So it leads to some drama at
the end of the regular season. More teams are alive
to get into the postseason, right to at least be
in the play in tournament, to fight your way into
the playoffs, and I think it enhances the beginning of
(02:34):
the postseason. Also, imagine if it was the old times
and it was just you finished seventh year in The
timber Wolves are a great example of this. The Tea
Wolves were in seventh place and then they won their
playing game and now they're the seventh seed. Imagine the
old times where you didn't have to do that. You
(02:55):
wouldn't have Pat Bev taking his jersey off and the
one shining moment antics and acting like they wanted championship.
You wouldn't have had any of that. And I also
think this. You might roll your eyes at the play
in tournament and the concept and all of that, but
you can't roll your eyes at this. The NBA has
(03:16):
marketed stars for so long. That's been their whole approach.
When the NBA really took off, that's what they did.
They marketed their stars, Magic and Bird. Then it went
to Jordan's and so forth and so on. They've always
done that. And the play and tournament it does help
(03:38):
boost some profiles, it helps boost credibility, and some of
these players are building their brands, and so if you
look at some of these guys, Anthony Edwards had a
great game for the Minnesota Timberwolves. That's a playoff like atmosphere.
I know, it's this weird like middle ground. It's like purgatory.
(03:59):
It's we're in between the regular season and the playoffs.
The play in the NBA has its own thing, but
it's like the playoffs. We basically look at it as
the playoffs. It's certainly the postseason. But Anthony Edwards had
a great game in the play in game that helps
build his profile. If you look tonight, Brandon Ingram was special.
(04:24):
Trey Young had a great game, you know, the first
game against the Nets. Darius Garland had a good game.
That helps boost those players profiles, maybe even incrementally, but
any boost is good. Think about pet Beverley. There was
a tweet from bud Light. They put Pat bev his
(04:45):
name on a beer can and they're like, hey, we
could have this at the postgame press conference and it
just said Pat Bev or no, it said bev Light
send the ass home or something like that. It was fun.
That's all good for the NBA. All of it is good.
We had a woman tried to glue herself to the court.
We wouldn't have had any of that stuff if not
(05:05):
for the playing tournament. I love it. I think it's
done a lot of good for the NBA. I think
it's been a big win, and I understand the skepticism.
There are a lot of people that are like, I
don't know about this, and I think it's turned out
to be a home run. I've really enjoyed it. I'm
Brian though here on Fox Sports Radio. So, um, before
(05:26):
we get to the misery in Portland and also Paul
George missing the game tonight contracted COVID, what does that
mean big picture as we head into the playoffs here,
but first, building on this play in thing. Kevin Durant,
he was asked after the Nets beat the Calves to
(05:47):
earn their way into the playoffs if this was a
well you'll hear the question and the answer. Here you go,
here's Kevin Durant. Check this out. Does it feel I
don't even want to say, like a game seven, but
more like maybe a game six. It feels like a
playoff game. Each game is just as important, you know,
Game one through seven arm poorts, so like a playoff game.
(06:08):
And I know our fans are gonna poach you to
such and they are opponents are as well. So it's
just a matter just going up, placing it, sneaks up
and just scooping seeing what happens that day. So yeah,
he he said, it's felt like a playoff game. It
feels I don't know about you, but watching at home,
it sure feels like the playoffs. To me, it's a
do or die situation. So I don't know how it
(06:29):
couldn't feel like a playoff game. Okay, So as far
as Paul George goes, he missed the game on Friday,
he contracted COVID, he tested positive for COVID, he entered
the NBA's health and safety protocols. And the interesting thing
here is it's a tap on the shoulder. It's a
reminder of, you know, we're a lot further along in
(06:51):
this whole COVID stuff, but we're not out of it.
And so it's a tap on the shoulder and a
reminder of this still is the wild card of the postseason,
because it's one thing for a play in game where
the Clippers were trying to earn their way to be
an eight seed to face the Sun's where they probably
(07:11):
would have lost unless they somehow got Kawai Leonard back.
It's a reminder of, man, what if this is the
conference finals? What if this is the NBA Finals and
a player contracts COVID and they're out, like that's still
the wild card of this postseason. And if you look
(07:32):
at the Clippers, they absolutely missed Paul George. Paul George
was excellent in the first play in game. He had
thirty or four points against the Timberwolves, seven rebounds, five assists.
The Clips lost that game, and then Paul George couldn't
go tonight. He had some symptoms on Thursday, so he
got tested. Turned out he was positive. No Paul George
(07:53):
on Friday night. That was a huge loss. And another
tap on the shoulder too. A couple of Bowls assistant coaches.
They're out for the playoff opener, and again it's one
of these what if that's the head coach. What if
this is Game seven of the conference finals, this is
Game six of the NBA Finals, something like that, very
(08:16):
important game. If they you don't have a star player
out there like Paul George, if you don't have your
head coach that's able to go, that's a game changer
right there. So I thought it was I thought it
was less about the Clippers with Paul George being out
and more about the postseason as a whole of what
(08:36):
that might look like now I do like this too.
There's another portion of it. You have the vice president
of basketball operations for the Clippers, Lawrence Frank. He was
asked if other Clippers players had to test and what
the time period was gonna be for Paul George being out,
(08:58):
and Lawrence Frank just said, the team is following the
NBA's lead when it comes to health and safety protocols. Um,
if you read the fine print, that means, no, we
didn't test our players unless they were symptomatic, because we
don't have to write like that's what it really means.
There was a smart, very political answer. It wasn't what
(09:19):
I just said, No, we're not doing that. We don't,
we don't have to. It was we're following the NBA's lead.
You know, if you have a problem with us not
testing our players, maybe take it up with them, because
we're just doing what they told us to do. I
thought that was funny. One other branch based on the
play and stuff tonight, So the Portland's Trailblazers are friends.
(09:40):
In the five oh three, they lost a draft pick
because the Pelicans won and earned their way into the playoffs.
These NBA trades are goofy. It's a plus be multiplied
by C divided by D and then throw in G.
And so the way it worked out with the Blazers
(10:03):
trade with the Pelicans involving C. J. McCullum Larry Nance Jr.
There was a draft pick involved because the Pelicans won
on Friday. The Blazers lose a draft pick this year
and the Pelicans keep it. It's top four protected. So
(10:24):
if the lottery pick falls somewhere between five and fourteen.
I told you there's math involved, the Pelicans keep it.
So keep it simple. Pelicans want on Friday, Pelicans keep
their first round draft pick. If the Pelicans had lost,
the Blazers would have gotten a pick in the lottery
somewhere between five and fourteen. That's a big deal. Instead,
(10:48):
because the Pelicans won, the Blazers get nada. They will
eventually get a pick in five, so you gotta wait
until then. That's a big deal about building around Damian
Lillard and trying to get into contention. And so all
these Blazer fans are sitting there like, all right, let's
(11:08):
go Clippers. They were Clipper fans for the evening and
then they find out no Paul George he's got COVID
and then no Luke Kennard and then a nice lead
heading into the fourth quarter was lost and the Blazers
lost a draft pick as a result. Crazy craziness, But
(11:29):
I'll tell you that happens all the time in the
n b A. I can't imagine what the reaction would
be if that's the NFL. Can you imagine that if
it's like, hey, we get our first round pick this
year unless the team we made a trade with wins
their Week eighteen game and makes the playoffs, and then
(11:51):
we don't get it. We gotta wait three years to
get that draft pick. Actually, like, we lose our freaking
minds if that was the case. But this is the
way the NBA has done it for a long long time.
So Blazers lose when they weren't even playing on Friday.
Blazers lose a first round draft pick because the Pelicans won,
(12:12):
and the Pelicans keep it in two amazing alright, eight
seven seven on Fox? That is your phone number. Hit
us up early and often. I'm thinking we might hear
from Gunner tonight his Timberwolves one. He even was tweeting
at me, I'll see you on Friday something like that.
(12:33):
I'll be calling in on Friday night, Brian, something like that,
so we'll hear from Gunner. You could be like Gunner
hit us up as well. Eight seven seven nine on Fox. Alright,
coming up next, who's the most recognizable player in an
entire league? I want to throw that at you right
around the corner. I'm Brian No. Keep it locked right

(13:45):
I'm probably know here on Fox Sports Radio. I feel
like I want to grab some clothes sticks here, Chris,
is this quite rave? Music doesn't sound quite there. Would
it be impermissible if somebody threw this on during a rave?
All the ravers look and be like, what's this? Might
be at an E d M show, But I think
there's a differentiation between the E d M show and
(14:07):
a rave. You know, so are glow sticks normal rave?
You show? You can do glow sticks at E d
M some some some medium shows. Yeah, it depends, depends
exactly what's going on handing them out. I hear you.
I just want to get all my rules and regulations
set in my head. I don't think these people really
care much about rules and regulations. I know they don't.
(14:30):
But when I show, I don't want to. I want
to fit in a little bit. When I check out
my first ravery, you probably won't fit any anyway, probably
will not fit by the way, before I get to
the calls here, random question. I uh, was watching the
highlights all the baseball stuff on Friday. It was Jackie
(14:50):
Robinson Day, and so all these teams paid tribute to
Jackie Robinson. They're wearing his number forty two. And if
you're on the if you're on a team, let's just say, uh,
I don't know the uh, the Mets, Right, everybody's wearing
the same uniform, And I started thinking, if you did
(15:11):
that across all of MLB, every player is wearing the
same uniform, which player would stand out the most? Which
player would be the most recognizable. It's just a weird,
random question I had in my head today, and I'm
just randomly. I didn't spend a ton of time on this,
but I was just looking at some of the better
(15:32):
players in the game, and you know, if they're dressed
the same way, who would you be like, Oh gosh,
that's so and so. Without even thinking twice, you know
my answer right now, and someone might be able to
come up with something else. I think it would be
Albert pool Holes. I think because he's been in the
game forever. There's just something about pool Holes where you've
(15:53):
seen him at bat so many times. I would pick
out Albert pool Holes from five miles away, probably Lee,
you know, maybe not that far, but if everybody's wearing
the same uniform, I think he would stand out the most.
Maybe you, Darvish, I think you would stand out quite
a bit. Fernando Tatis Jr. The colorful hair, he might
(16:13):
stand out a little bit, but I don't know. It's
a random question I had in my head today. So
if you feel like checking in on that, feel free
to do so. I also on Twitter for you at
the No Show. Let's go out to the phones here.
Let's go my guy Emmett first up, he's batting leadoff.
He's the Ricky Henderson of this show on Fox Sports Radio,
and I love that. What's going on? Emmett? I know,
(16:37):
my guy, how are you doing on this Friday? And
I are going in the Saturday morning? Very well, man,
I'm doing fine. How are things with you? I'm doing
good man. And I have to say, you know, the
playing tournament, it is right or you are right. I
mean it is good for the NBA because there's people
like me, there's people like you, and I'm sure Kevin
(16:58):
Figures is a big NBA guy where we're all like
more ball cool, and I feel like, you know, the
thing is it's the NBA for me, is you know
the NBA realizes, oh we have these guys load managing.
They're not going to load manage in the playoffs. You know,
we can have these underrated you know teams come in
and he for going for success. I mean you know,
(17:18):
Wednesday was not too shabby for talking playing games, Like
we had a couple, you know, not very good game,
but Tuesday didn't disappoint. I mean, we had the Clippers choke,
and I just feel like, you know, it's kind of
like football where people are complaining when they added the
more wild card stuff and now they love it. And
it's the same thing with the NBA Playing Tournament and
Jonas Knox, like last year around this time said the same.
(17:42):
He he made that comparison and I had to agree
with it because it's it's true, like we see all
these people just ripping the n b A and um,
you know, I just feel like there's a lot to
be you know, posted there. And I have to ask you, Brian.
I'm sure you could get into it later, but um,
what are your thoughts on the whole Clayton Kershaw getting
(18:03):
pulled from the Dodgers in the seventh inning? Perfect hit,
perfect perfect. Yeah, well, thanks for checking in Emmett. I
appreciate that. Man. The first thing is, uh, yeah, I
mean the playing tournament has worked very very well. I
thought he was gonna go the other way. The way
he's like Jonas Knocks, I don't know, maybe it's just me.
The way he said it, I thought he was gonna
(18:24):
disagree with Jonas, but he agreed with him, So that's cool. Guy. Yeah,
I think the playing tournament has been great. I think
the additional wild card teams in the NFL playoffs has
been great. Um, But yeah, I just wonder what the
NBA if they're thinking, all right, this worked, what should
we do next? Sometimes you don't quit while you're ahead.
(18:47):
You ever be at the craps table and I don't know,
maybe a hit, uh like a hard six. You're not
supposed to bet the hard ways, but every now and
then you do. You know, you hit a hard six,
hit a hard eight, and you're like, let's run it back,
and then you figure out that's a freaking terrible idea.
So I just wonder if the NBA does something similar.
Adam Silver has been pushing this in season tournament. He
(19:11):
was on with Dan Patrick and he still he loves
that idea. Maybe the n Season Tournament, maybe that maybe
we're look into that play in has been a success.
Maybe I don't think the n Season Tournament is gonna work.
This isn't soccer. It's just set up differently. But the
plan has been a success. As far as Clayton Kershaw,
the guy only threw eight pitches. I think you put
(19:31):
him out there and just see maybe he would have
given up a hit to the first batter in the
eighth inning and then you yank him. But I think
you at least test the waters. But hey, there was
a lockout, limited time to get ready for this season,
and Clayton Kershaw had zero problem with it and seemed
to be very believable. It wasn't as if he was
(19:53):
just having the back of his manager. He came off
as very uh very on it to me about saying, no, no,
I want to be around for the long haul, so
I didn't want to uh tempt fate over there, Okay,
I mean I would have given it a shot, um,
just to see if he could have kept the perfect
(20:15):
game intact in the eighth inning or not. Let's go
out to David. He's up next in California. What's going on, David?
Welcome to Fox Sports Radio. Brian No, I'm happy to
have you on the radio. You're a good commentary guy. Dude.
Did you did you hear about the two point six
(20:37):
six mile Trioval in Alabama? Next Sunday, April. We'll get ready,
and I'm here to say it to warm half pass
fair weather sports fans. You pull a chair up or
find a couch and watch forty some drivers stare death
(20:59):
in the face or a twirl a two hundred one
hour shootout from Talladaga brother the ultimate in NASCAR, to
death to find speed, guaranteed to boil the ears off
the side of your head. Watch it and you'll be
hooked forever. They get a hundred and sixty five thousand
(21:19):
people at that place, and you need nerves of steel
to watch this madness. Guy comes for letting me in,
and I know all the sports tourists, the machismo crowd,
the big NASCAR is a turn left circuit. They got
their head up there. I don't care, all right. I
(21:40):
love it, David bringing the fire. I just wish you
would have worked in restrictor plate racing. That's all. That's
my only beef. That was a great call. It. Don't
do that, Chris, do not do that. Huh. This would
have fit next hour in the fledgling segment that we're
trying to get off the ground. I don't know if
it's gonna be called small market Radio. We're still working
(22:03):
on the name. We're still working on it, but it's
basically sports or teams that don't get their shine and
that's your time to call it. That's the time to rally.
And we're talking Brewers Baseball. It's outside of that time though,
So yeah, I'm gonna call it. Turn left. Yeah. That
was a very w W E like promotional effort. That
(22:26):
was great. Yeah, right, maybe a brother He just needed
a little catch word or phrase, you know, maybe a
who something the next the next chapter of that, that
was but that was very well done by David, very
well done. I'm fired up by my tune into that thing.
We've got Kevin Figures with this update anchor extraordinary. What's
(22:50):
going on? K fig? All right? Ryan? Well? The playoff
field is officially set in the NBA. After the final
two playing games were on Friday night out West. You
got the Pelicans getting third points from Brandon Ingram. They
would beat the Clippers one oh five to one oh one,
clinching the eight seed. New Orleans will take on the
Suns in Game one of their first round series on
Sunday in the Eastern Conference. Trede Young score thirty eight points,
(23:11):
leading the Hawks to a one oh seven to one
OH one victory over Cleveland, Atlanta clinching the eight seed,
and we'll take on Miami Warriors. Guards Steph Curry will
play on a minute restriction in Game one of their
series against Denver on Saturday. Luca don Check of the
Mavericks will miss Game one and possibly game two of
their series against Utah and Major League Baseball Dodgers over
the Red three to one. Is Craig Kimbro picked up
(23:31):
to save former Dodger Kenlly Jansen getting to save for
Atlanta five to two their victory over the Padres. Are
all this Chapman walking in the winning run as the
Orioles defeated the Yankees two to one, and extras blow
out victories for Seattle and St. Louis and two arm
runs for Shoo Tany five m runs total for the
Angels as they defeated Texas nine to six. Back to
Brian ok k Fig, I got two things for you.
(23:54):
First off, I'm trying to drink half my body weight
in water. They say this is what you're supposed to do, right,
So I've committed. I'm three days in. I think I
feel good. I don't know. I don't. I'm not sure,
but I think I feel a little bit. It's a
lot a lot of trips to the bathroom imagining ya
see you a few of that, Like that's that's the
(24:15):
frustrating form from a lot of people. And they say,
I need to drink more water, but I just can't
do it because I have to get up and go
every twenty minutes, you know, I don't want to. One
time I had to give blood. It was just maybe
like a regular physical or whatever, and uh, they were
having a hard time and they were like, you are
you they hydrated? What did you drink to that? I
was like, I just woke up and drink some orange juice.
(24:38):
And they're like, you haven't had water. I'm like no,
They're like once the last time you had water? And
I'm like, um man, I'm not quite sure when that was.
There's water and orange juice, right what I was thinking
his liquids drinkable, right, there's water in there somewhere. Fairly
it works a little bit differently right there. And the
other thing, Okay, fike, I'm thinking about going. I've always
(25:00):
wanted to do this to the first round of the
NFL Draft. Okay, heading out, I'm thinking about making it happen.
What do you think? Is that a good idea? Yeah?
Why not? I think it's always been cool. It's something
cool to go out there and be able to experience,
you know, just to see what the entire atmosphere they have,
the entire NFL set up with the they have all
the games for the kids, kind of like super Bowl
(25:20):
to a certain degree, if you've ever been to a
super Bowl city. So I think it'd be a fun vibe.
I'd be down to go to now for an entire
draft weekend. It might be a little much, but to
experience the first round and the pageantry of it, I
think it'd be pretty cool. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
I was thinking maybe go there for just the first
round and then I would probably make my way to
l A and then just do my shows over the
(25:41):
weekend physically in l A and then be there for
a part of the week and just see friends while
I'm in town. Yeah, you should make an entire trip
out of it. I like it. I think that's a
solid game plan. Now. The other part is it makes
me think because I don't know exactly how the first
round works if it's just first come, first serve, you
gotta day in line for a good amount of the
(26:01):
day to get a good spot, or if certain sections
you need tickets. I'm a little fuzzy on that. I
don't know exactly how that works, but I have to
tell you a brief story. K Fig. I went as
a Bulls fan to the Bull's final championship celebration. Is
that Grant Park That's where it always was, And I'm like,
they're breaking the band up right, this is it. And
(26:24):
so I went there for that and it was sort
of first come, first serve. But what they did they
seated everybody in sections. It was total garbage. So like me,
who was there throughout half the evening, I was just
camping out right, And so they seated us in this
section like front to back all the way. Think of
(26:46):
like pizza slices, right, So they see us all the
way from front to the very back, and then they
take the next section and they see them from front
all the way to the back. So, depending on how
it shook out, you might have just stayed there for
hours on end for no good reason and you got
a much worse seat. That was terrible. That's messed up there. Yeah,
(27:07):
that has to be to your point of first come,
first serve situation. If you wanted those cats who were
camping out three days before, I think you should have
those efforts be rewarding, you know what I mean. Right,
And I was there. I was there for a long time,
and I was towards the front. And it was funny.
At some point during the night, everybody just ran and
went into the venue, right, and I was in the
front row. I'm like, this is awesome. And the cops
(27:29):
showed up and they're like, what do you can't do this? Like,
get back in line, morons, right, And so I was
way back in line. And just the way it worked out,
I was towards the back of a section instead of
right there in front. By the way, impressive that the
cops were able to corral I'm assuming just a horde
of people, you know, because at that point, when it's
that crazy, they're just like, you know what, y'all just
(27:50):
go ahead, as long as you hit each other. Fine.
I think I was one of the few morons because
there weren't a ton of us. There were at least
like a few. The numbers weren't so high that. They
were like, screw it, just let him do it. Who cares? Right?
They were like, no, there's like forty some morons. Let's
corral them and get them back in line. So people
(28:10):
are here to celebrate, let him have it. What are
we doing at? I like your way of thinking there, Kay, thing,
I wish you would have been an officer there that night.
You know it would have worked out better? All right?
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox? Is your phone number?
Let me go back out to uh, let's work in Matthew,
he's over in Las Vegas. Hey, maybe he can tell
me how this thing works with the NFL draft. By
(28:32):
Matt's got some NBA stuff for us. What's going on, Matthew?
What's going on? Brian? How are you good? But hey,
do you know, by the way, do you know how
the NFL draft works? Is it first come, first served
to see that thing? So from what I know, you
actually do have to buy a ticket. I don't know
where because I've been looking to get one. I know
had a group on Facebook that I watched a lot
(28:53):
of people are talking about their tickets and all what not. Um,
but yeah, I mean people will be able to see it.
Blew from the from the from outside, because I guess
it's gonna be outside to be able to see it,
but you won't be able to be inside. I don't
know how it fully works. I just know that you
could buy a ticket. Yeah, I'll look into that. Well,
thanks for letting me know. What do you think about
the NBA here? So, I don't know if you remember
(29:16):
from last week when I called you and told you
that the Timberwolves are gonna get swept. I'm gonna continue
to say that. I think they're gonna get swept again.
So I hope Gunner got gets the broom ready because
you're gonna they're gonna they're gonna sweep. Okay, Grizzlies, They're
gonna sweep the Timberwolves. And I hope he's listening. Wow, Now,
are you a Grizzlies fan, Matthew, No, I am not.
(29:38):
I just know it's it's it's just because he talks
all about the Men a third Timberwolves, and you know,
nobody cares about them, but nobody gives a damn about
the Timberwolves first exactly, it's exactly, so they're gonna get
swept in the first round for all clean sweep. Now,
be honest, Matthew has gunners just blind allegiance to the
(29:59):
timberwol Wolves. Gotten you more invested in rooting against the
timber Wolves. I would say yes, it would just be
fun just to watch them, ladies and to see him
cry on the radio. Maybe maybe we can We'll do
a live looking you know, something like that. We can
get him on there. But yeah, I appreciate that. There
(30:21):
you go, there's Matthew. Appreciate that call. Good stuff. Let's see,
let's let's work this in Sam over in Sherman Oaks.
Is this Iowa? Sam? Not sure, but he wants to
trash a certain team. Welcome in, Sam, You're on Fox
Sports Radio. Man, I just want to make fun of
the Clippers. What a what a complete joke as a
(30:41):
Laker family feels pretty pretty funny here. Uh, And can
we just talk about what a what a fraud decoy?
Leonard is Um. You could say what you want to
say about Street closed Davis, but at least he helped
to win his team the title, and he attempted to
come back. But this guy is a cancer on that
team and he gets obviously he nobody talks about him
because he never talks and he's mysterious. But what a
(31:04):
joke that guy is. He pulled this nonsense in San Antonio,
he did it in Toronto. They did win the title,
but yeah, you wanted with Kevin Durant and Clay Thompson
both out and now this guy has to come back.
Didn't even attempt to come back all year, and the
Clippers stupidly could have gotten out of pain and get
rid of him. They give him a Supermaxtewo hasn't played
one game, and there's again like he is with the
(31:26):
medical staff, like he wasn't a two previous places that
he didn't want to come back, and now with PG
out and he he didn't even come to come back.
What a gut list for all that guy is and
a joke that the Clippers think they're gonna win a title.
I'll give Paul George some credit. He made. You can
make fun of him, but hey, he saw what he said.
He showed a lot of heart and guts. Bat break today.
I don't know what the hell is going on, but
(31:48):
he he bawled out last year. He led him. He
led him funny enough without Kawhi learned they showed they
played better without Kawhi Leonard and they could have let
him walk, and he said they stupidly give him a
Supermaxio when you knew he was gonna be out. He's
diminishing player, he's not the same player as he was before.
And it's just, hey, you can say what you want
about us with Anthony Davis, but he delivered the title
(32:10):
and I would have moved off to him last year
because we've shown you're not gonna have a pandemics. Do
you have four months off anymore? So hey, we're stuck
with him, but it's much better than what the Clippers
are because they haven't won anything. And you're gonna hit
your wag into that fraud. And he's gonna pull the
same nonsense next year. Oh, you're gonna say if he's healthy,
if he's healthy, like Ben Mallard, he's illusional Clipper fans
(32:31):
like Mallard, Oh when he's healthy, He's never gonna be healthy.
He pulls his garbage everywhere he goes. And can you
just talk about what a what a con that guy
is getting take fifty million dollars a year to do
absolutely nothing. Paul George, Hey, I'll give him the crap
at least he thought to come back, and he actually
led him to the Western Conference Finals, which is farther
than they've ever gone into history. But ultimately, I just
(32:51):
want to laugh at those frauging the Clipper fans who
stopped this. And I taught all these Clipper fans, delusional
Clipper fans who got quiet, what's gonna be sacred? I'm like, dude,
he's he saw this out when he never plays? He said.
The only thing I'll say, Sam, You've made your point
very well known. But the only thing I would throw
back at you is, look at Jamal Murray with the Nuggets.
He had a torn a c L. He hasn't played
one second this year either, you know, so this is
(33:13):
the first major injury though. This is this is Kawai
Learners a whole, trajectoring his whole, and he's going to
continue to do this. And why do you think he's
at odds with medical staff everywhere he goes? He had
What are you calling Jamal Murray gutless? Are you saying
that he's a gutless fraud for not attempting to come
back with the Nuggets yet this season? Well, he's questionable.
He looks like he's trying to come back, but he
hasn't come back yet. He didn't he didn't play yet.
(33:35):
But different Clippers just got bounced. I understand that. But
here's the difference, though. He this Kawhi Leonard has a
track record of doing this everywhere he's gone, and and
there's you gotta he's gotta be called out. Man. If
your people are going to call out Anthony Davis, who
at least he attempts to come back, this guy has
done this every team he's gone for the last six years.
So it's at one point are you going to call
this guy off for a joke that he is? You
(33:57):
know what I'm saying? I on that? Thanks all right?
Sam was fired up. Finally what you have? Uh? I
think Chris, you're the guy that wants the NBA shot
clock to go from twenty four seconds to five seconds.
That would be fun, Actually, that would be fun to
(34:18):
see guys try to heave up alf coord shots. Don't
tell me you would watch that. Chris has a stop
watch out here and he's like, come on, you made
your point, Get out right. I can tell when someone's
running in circles and believe it. Believe me, it's not
because we're running up against a break or anything. He'll
say this at Yeah, look, I get Sam's point, Um,
(34:42):
Kawuhi Leonard has milked injuries in terms of his timetable
of getting back, or been extra obnoxiously careful with not
pushing it to a fault. I get all of those things,
but I think you can't. You can't be the victim
of your own emotion. That's all I'm saying. Sing is
Jamal Murray got hurt right around the same time, torn
(35:04):
a c l. He hasn't come back yet either, So
I think it goes too far to say Kawhite Leonard
is gutless and a fraud like he's a multi time champion.
And yeah, I tear my hair out too when he
takes obnoxiously long coming back from some of these injuries.
He's Team Kauai before he is team Clippers or whatever
(35:24):
team he's playing for. That's the way he's wired. If
that drives you crazy, I get it. But that is
that is Laker v. Clippers right there, And I get
it if you're for the Purple and Gold and you're
sick and tired of people talking trash about Anthony Davis
where you can throw it right back at him and say,
how about your boy Kawai zero seconds played this season?
(35:45):
How about that? Alright? Eight seven seven nine on foxes
your phone number. Man, imagine if Kauai was playing, they'd
be right there. They they'd literally be in the title
mix that was. That's what makes it even more frustrating. Alright,
coming up next, this has got to be the best
matchup possible. I'll throw that at you. I'm Brian no
(36:06):

My guy Chad doing over in Portland, was talking to
(36:30):
some sports with my guy Chad, and he asked me,
He's like, what finals matchup would you want to see
the most? And on the spot, I'm trying to talk
my way through it and I'm like, all right, well,
in the East would be down to let's say, the Bucks,
the Sixers, and the Nets who I'd most want to see. Okay,
let's whittle it down. Let's go Bucks defending champs Nets,
(36:52):
because all the storylines with them, I'm like, I'm gonna
go with the Nets. Give me new blood in there,
the k D Kyrie angle, I'd be most interested in that.
And then I started thinking about the opponent in the West.
What would make the best matchup? And so I started thinking, Ah,
you know what, probably Sons, Right, Sons missed the mr
(37:15):
chance to win a championship last season. They're trying to
be the fifteen team in NBA history to win a
championship the following year after they lost in the finals. Right,
so they lost the finals one year, they're trying to
win a championship the next season. Would be the fifteenth
time that's happened in the NBA. And the storylines with
(37:37):
Chris Paul and Devin Booker, and then I was like, oh,
there is a team that would make for a much
better matchup. It's got to be the Warriors and the Nets. Right,
that finals matchup would be using with storylines, I mean
never ending, you have k D against his former team.
(38:00):
Think about legitimizing Kevin Durant. There are a lot of
people that say those rings don't even count. Some believe
that where he joined a seventy three win team and
they were boat racing the calves and route to winning
two championships. If k D as a member of the
Nets took down the Warriors in the finals, that would
(38:21):
obviously be huge. It also be huge for the Warriors
to take down k D and almost legitimize their pre
k D era of basketball. I think that would be
a tremendous matchup. That would be the one I would
be most entertained with by seeing that. I would say,
it's Warriors Nets And I'm not calling my shot and
(38:42):
saying that's what it's going to be, But that's what
I would be most entertained by. I'll let me go
back out to the phones. Here, Ronnie is over in Kentucky.
What is it? He wants to stick up for Mallard's clippers?
All right, Ronnie, let's here, Bud. What do you have
for us? All right? Why how you doing tonight? Good? Ronnie? Hey, listen,
First off, I was born in California. I'm from California.
(39:05):
I live in Kentucky now, I grew up in Oklahoma.
How is this guy gonna come on the radio and
sit and talk crap about the Clippers when West Brick
and Lebron James and then other clown that they got
on their team cannot even make it to the play
in and he's gonna sit, He's gonna sit and talk
(39:27):
crap about the Clippers. The Clippers made it to the
play in without Kawai Leonard, with only Paul George. They
almost won the game to actually get in the playoffs
play in game. How's somebody gonna come on the radio
and talk about the Clippers like that? Then mellow this
for you, buddy. I like it, Ronny, good stuff, but
(39:51):
thanks for checking in. Yeah, I mean, look, what is
it If you live in a glasshouse, don't throw stones,
and that would apply to this situation of this. You
just gotta take it. If you're a Laker fan this season,
you just gotta take the l When you don't even
qualify for the play in game, it's you just have
(40:13):
to take the l. And it's like I'll get back
to you next season, hopefully, but not right now. No,
now is not the time. Alright, come it up. Next,
we break out the delusional meter. Will have a lot
of fun with that around the corner. Ah, Yes, what's
going on. I hope you're enjoying your what Saturday morning?
(40:36):
We're all Saturday morning now, even West Coast. Let's go,
let's go early Saturday morning. I'm gonna get to the
calls here momentarily eight seven, seven nine on Fox. Some
people are lined up want to go. So I'm not
gonna try to go too long on this. I want
to break out though something I'm referring to as the
delusional meter. We're gonna go on a scale from one
(40:59):
to two, and some of the comments made during this week,
just how delusional are these athletes? Scale from one to ten,
ten being the greatest. So if you don't think he's
delusional whatsoever, you'd go one. If you think this athlete
is incredibly delusional, you'd go ten, you'd go ten. So
if we start this thing off, let's start it off
(41:20):
with Lebron James. Of course, the Lakers did not qualify
for the play in tournament. They finished eleventh in the
Western Conference. So the exit interviews, this is what Lebron
had to say about the season. Yeah, I mean it's
not failures. We came to work every single day, put
our hard hats on, and we try to get better
every day and the results just didn't didn't happen for us.
(41:42):
So it's not a failure. Okay. On the delusional meter
scale from one to ten, How delusional is Lebron that
that would easily be at ten? That is maybe off
the scale delusion number ten. Are you serious right now?
(42:03):
Not a failure the Lakers. The Lakers had the best
odds to win the West and they finished eleventh. They
didn't even make the play in tournament. This is the
biggest failure in NBA history easily, So to say it's
not a failure and we put our hard hats on,
come on, man, I think Lebron every now and then,
(42:24):
he just wants to pull a Jedi mind trick. He
just wants to say something and hopes that everybody's just
gonna go along with it and think the same thing.
And it doesn't work like that at all, because we
have brains and eyeballs and we watched the season like
this is a colossal failure. So no, that's complete delusion. Okay,
let's move it forward. James Harden love this, James Harden.
(42:47):
The Sixers are heading to the playoffs. He says, I
have nothing to prove and I feel no pressure. Okay,
on the delusion meter, what would you rank this on
a scale from one to head. I'm gonna go nine.
I'm gonna go nine here. Now there are two separate statements,
(43:10):
so if you look at them separately, you give two
separate grades. If you look at him as one, look,
James Harden might not feel as much pressure as somebody
else in the exact same situation. To say there's no
pressure as a stretch. But if he's saying I don't
feel the pressure, I'm going out there and playing basketball.
(43:31):
That's what I'm doing. I think he's downplaying the pressure.
I think he certainly feels it, but he might deal
with it better than others. So I'm not gonna say
that's complete delusion. But to say he has nothing to prove,
that's just complete delusion. So what I what I've blended to.
I'm gonna go nine, solid nine, right, I can't quite
go ted nothing to prove, though. My intenta goes right up.
(43:54):
It's like, whoa wait, wait what? There have been many
athletes that have said this. Peyton Manning said this, and
he was getting ousted in Indianapolis. He wanted to continue
his career, and he said, no, I don't think I
have anything to prove. This is always a bone of
contention for me. I look at it where you should
always feel like you need to prove yourself in sports.
(44:14):
That's how sports work. It's all about this season. It's
not about what you've done in the past. And also,
on top of it, James Harden he he doesn't have
a ring. I think that applies to I mean, think
about Brady or someone who's well decorated. You think Brady
has this mentality of I don't have anything to prove.
He's like, what happened years ago, it doesn't matter right now.
(44:37):
It's all about the here and now. So if it's
Brett Farve, if it's Peyton Manning, if it's James Harden,
many athletes have said I have nothing to prove. I
don't get that logic at all. All Right, we move
it forward. Oh, Baker Mayfield is up next. Baker made
some comments this week. Let's see how delusional he is
when he told the what was it? The You Never
(45:01):
Know Podcast loved this. He was on the You Never
Know Podcast. Here's Baker Mayfield. I feel disrespect because I
was told one thing and they completed another That's what
I'm in the middle of right now. You know what, Okay,
I got, I got my taste of it. Okay. So
he feels completely disrespected by the Cleveland Browns organization. They
told him he'd be back and now he's not their quarterback. Um,
(45:24):
as far as the delusional meter goes, I'm gonna go eight.
I'm gonna go with solidate, and I put it down
a little, a little bit low. Hear me out, he's delusional.
There's no doubt. You have to understand, even though you
don't like what the Browns have done, you have to
(45:45):
at least wrap your mind around it and come to
grips with it. Deshaun Watson is a much better quarterback.
That's what it boils down to. And look, if you
got dumped by your girlfriend who is now dating an
A list actor, your immediate reaction might be like, but
you said you're gonna be with me through thick and thin,
what's up with that? Then you cool down a little
(46:07):
bit and you're like, yeah, he probably made the right call.
He probably made the right call. So that's why I
don't go ten with Baker's delusion, because this is just
sour grapes and overreacting and not really using logic. This
is all emotion. But if you just look at this logically,
even though you don't like it, you have to understand it.
(46:28):
Look at Baker Mayfield to they're trying to deal him.
If this guy was a difference maker, he would be
on a team by now. So the rest of the
NFL has chimed in loudly like we don't think you're
a difference maker. So to feel disrespected by the Browns organization,
that's just silly to me. Now, last one and I'll
get to the phone calls. Last what we go to
(46:52):
Russell Westbrook exit interview, all right, didn't quite work out
for us with the Lakers this season. What he had
to say about Frank Vogel, it raised some eyebrows. Here
is Russ I'm not sure what his issue was with
me or I'm not sure why, but um, I can't
really give the answer why things we never really connected.
(47:14):
Maybe you know, um that's something that he has to answer,
but I never you know, from the get go, was
feeling like I was happing to like trying to prove
myself to him and my capabilities and what I've been
able to do for this game, and it's unfortunate, but
it's really not. I came out of my hands. Okay,
on the delusional meter, let's rank this scale on a
(47:36):
from one to ten. Here with Westbrooks, this would be
this is a minimum twenty full delusion here? What is
he talking about? It's like, I, I I don't know what
what Vogel's beef was with me? And what's up with
me having to prove myself over here? What what is
(47:57):
he talking about? Like Westboro? It's unbelievable Westbrook thinks this
was personal with Vogel. It's all about performance. That's all
it ever was about. Vogel is looking at this like, dude,
you're a turnover machine and you can't hit jump shots.
You're shooting under from three. That's why he's on the bench.
It wasn't some personal grudge or anything like that. If
(48:19):
Westbrook was playing good basketball, he would have been out there.
Vogel would have been an idiot not to have him
out there. But Russ wasn't doing that. And this is
the biggest problem I have this other SoundBite with Russ.
I'm always have to prove myself again in the year
after year after year, which is to me just unfair.
There's really no reason to have to do that. I
can't believe he said that. I cannot believe he said that.
(48:41):
It doesn't get more delusional than that. Sports are all
about the here and now. It's what are you doing
right here? Right now? What is it? The old Ford tagline? Well,
that's have you driven a forward lately? But it's sports
is a what have you done for me lately? Business?
That's all it is. And so for Rostobil, I feel
(49:03):
like I approved myself year in and year out, like
he lives on his resume. He's really he's thinking about
peak Russ, and the Lakers, especially Frank Vogel, are looking
at him as present Russ, who is not the same guy,
not as effective anymore. That's all it is. I just
I cannot believe his mentality is And what's up with
(49:25):
me having to prove myself year and in year out?
Have you checked my stats? Have you looked at my
Wikipedia page? I've done a lot in yesteryear. It's like,
who cares? What does that do for the Lakers? Why
would that make them feel better? If they're like, you know,
let's go to Basketball Reference dot com and oh man,
these stats with Okay, see, those are really good. I
feel better now that you're stinking up the joint here
(49:47):
in purple and gold. That's crazy. That's crazy, all right,
I have yet yeact long enough here eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox, I'm Brian Noe with you here
on Fox Sports Radio. Let's go out to Tim. He's
over in Seattle. Now. There was some talk about Kawhi
Leonard being a fraud, so Tim wants to check in
on that. What's going on? Tim? Hey, Brian, there is
(50:09):
no bigger fraud, in my opinion, in the NBA this
season than Ben Simmons. I mean, come on, I mean
it's it's I mean, he sat healthy, completely healthy, because
he didn't want to play in Philadelphia. I get it.
But don't don't start calling Kawhi Leonard the biggest fraud
(50:31):
if you're not gonna put out Ben simmons name. And secondly,
if you're a Laker fan, you can't talk about anything
positive this year. Zero positive, nothing, zero tata something they're
getting older. Rob Olinka has sold that team basically, I
mean they what what kind of talent do they got
(50:52):
coming in? They've got no draft picks they're holding on
to Whustlerest Wuss rust Book at what million dollars next year.
I mean, nobody's gonna take them unless they unless they
unless they try and buy him out. But it doesn't
look like he's gonna get bought out. So anyway, that's thought.
But how about Lebron. Lebron says it's not a failure though,
you know, I guess we gotta go by that, right, Yeah, right,
(51:15):
I mean, yeah, it's crazy. And then and then the
last thought is James Hardy. I agree that he's delusional,
but I don't think he really I don't think he
even really thinks the pressure is not on him. I mean,
the pressure is on him, and he knows it's on him.
He's just saying he's just saying that just from the
you know, just to say something the media could probably
(51:37):
try and leave him alone. Yeah. Maybe I don't know
why he's saying it exactly, But thanks for checking in, Paul,
good stuff. Yeah, I don't know. If it's sometimes athletes
try to convince themselves of the reality they want. Maybe
that's it. I don't really know, but it's certainly not
the truth. There's nobody in the NBA playoffs, that is
(51:58):
facing more pressure that city, like he's got a step
up and and beat has been unbelievable this season. It's
about Harden. Can he produce? Can he get it done?
Let me go to a Richard. He's over in Miami.
Let's get some Miami flavor in here. What's going on,
rich Hey, it's big. The screener doesn't know me, but
(52:21):
I was listening to you guys, and I've had an
idea that I wanted to get out there for the
All Star Basketball right, and that is to have sixty
four of the top guys that's like two or three
from each team, and they do a round robin sixty
four tournaments like during the week, and that would be
more exciting than the topaze. What I'm saying, did you
(52:46):
see Lebron and Kevin and then from there you yeah?
And then he well, Hey, I appreciate you throwing out
the idea there, Richard. I don't I don't think that's
gonna fly, you know. I don't think it's gonna turn
into the Big Three like the ice Cube League. I
don't think it's gonna it's gonna do that. Hey, listen,
(53:07):
I get you want to spruce up the All Star festivities.
But I don't think that's gonna happen. You know, look
to play in tournament. It's been tremendous and there might
be another outside the box idea that is tremendous also,
But who's gonna play hard? Like that's the time to
just kick it For the most part, I'll tell you
this the el amending or a version of it. It's
(53:31):
kind of like the elimending meets a tribute to Kobe
Bryant with just a race to twenty four points in
the fourth quarter. That has made the All Star Game
really good. It's been competitive, especially the fourth quarter. They
actually get after it and play. They're playing defense, Like
I love what that's done for the All Star Game.
(53:51):
But in terms of the dunk contest, yeah, I can
see why you'd want to spruce that up. I get it.
Um all right, we'll get to the calls here. You
know what, real fast, real fast. Our guy Van is
in Alabama. I'm curious about this because the USFL it's
kicking off on Saturday, and there are so many rules.
We'll get to a few of them a little bit later.
(54:12):
If you would ever like to see some of this
stuff in the NFL. But Van wants to check in
on that. What's going on? Van? Hey? Mr No. Six
on my prostage is on my to tim with it all.
I don't know if we did. It's like that. It's
like Dan Patrick's thing. But I appreciate you very nice.
(54:35):
I thought i'd changed up a little bit on my Hello.
Uh yeah, I was. I was listening to Moves Johnson
with George Tyler today and he was going over all
the all the rules number one. I like them. I
like most of them. Uh the one on the past
inter parents. It's more like college. You're not gonna get
a spot foul. You're gonna get fifteen yards unless it's agreed.
(54:59):
Just for what it's back just tackles the guy when
he's getting beat, you know, for a six t R pass.
I like that, and then kicking off from the twenty
five so you'll have you'll have returns on the kickoffs.
Uh hello, you said there? Ye okay, I'm interested. Oh
(55:19):
I gotta beat you. I gotta text. Uh, I'm interested
to see how that works on the microchip in the ball.
No change to measure the first time, and uh you know,
I I got gonna have microphones and all in the
shoulder pads so you can hear hear the hits loud
and clear on TV. I'm a little concerned, but you know, well,
(55:42):
you know, I was so old. I would see the
Birmingham Stagons in the first go around, and they went
broken the second year. I think they won it one year,
but uh, I noticed that what went down through the roster.
I only lived like an Howard from Birmingham, and uh,
they didn't have very many local guy. I thought they
would have, you know, like guys from Alabama, a Burn, Jacksonville. Van.
(56:06):
You're fired up, you're gonna tailgate you. Yeah, I'm gonna go.
I'm gonna go next month. I'm not gonna go tomorrow.
It's kind of hard for me to get around. I
had to I had to have seats pretty low, or
somebody go because it's hard for me to go up
all those steps with the miss and a half a leg.
But yeah, I'm gonna go. They got one on Sunday
coming up in May. But yeah, I had more of
(56:28):
the Birmingham Stallions. H Well, you gotta hit us back up, Van.
If you do make it out there, you gotta let
us know how it was, and I was going to
tell you I was gonna tell you know you were
talking about going to the to the UH Draft. I've
never been there, but I lived in Atlanta years ago
when they when they had the Super Bowl. But it
was so darn cold, you know sometimes we get those
(56:50):
cold fronts here in the South. It was like below
ten and I went to a party, you know, at night,
and it was just miserable. The most. The thing I
remember the most, besides the co weather's seeing the cloudsdales
and many a little better than we do. Alright, man,
I appreciate you check it in bad good stuff. I
appreciate the stories there. It really had nothing to do
(57:14):
with anything. But you know, all right, you know, we're
at a cold party in Atlanta, and shout out to
Clydesdale's you know, the heck with it. Welcome to Overnight Radio.
Let's get freaking weird. Yeah, but shout out to Van.
Hopefully if he makes it there, I'll have a fun time.
We'll get to some of those USFL rules a little
bit later in the show coming up next though. Oh man,
(57:37):
I see someone on hold wants to do a little
bit of bragging and also we know that there will
be at least one major curveball. What might it be.
We'll throw out a couple of possibilities. I'm probably no
keep it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm
(58:02):
Brian No here on Fox Sports Radio. Man. You know,
I'm so curious what the curve ball of the NFL
Draft will be. Now, what made me start thinking about
this is have you heard about the list of twenty
one players that will be there in person for the
first round of the NFL Draft. So these are draft prospects, right,
(58:25):
I think about the green room there there in person,
you go out there, give goodell, big bear, hug get
the jersey, all of that. They'll be twenty one players
there in attendance. And the two quarterbacks that will be
there Malik Willis and old Mrs Matt Corral. Now, there
are a lot of mock drafts that do not have
(58:46):
Matt Correll in the first round. And look, those mock
drafts are not the gospel. You might read enough of
them where you think, oh man, this team is out
of their mind if they don't draft this guy. NFL
teams might not think the same way. You know, you
get so used to these mock drafts like that's the
way it's gonna go, and it might go much differently.
(59:08):
And so with Matt Corrall being there in person, Typically
these draft prospects they get invited when there's a real
good chance they're drafted in the first round. It's not
a certainty. There have been times it hasn't happened, and
it doesn't mean Matt Correll definitely will be a first
round pick. It just gets me thinking that could be
(59:28):
a curveball that he's in the first round. And more importantly,
what is the curveball of the draft? And I honestly
don't know. I don't know what it's going to be.
I don't know if there's a team that moves up
into the top ten aggressively, I'm curious what the Saints do.
They made a trade with the Eagles and there in
(59:49):
the teens, do they move up even higher and make
an even more aggressive move. I don't know. I just
know it's coming. I know there will be a major curveball.
I just don't know which player it's involving, in which
team it's involving. But I will say this one thing
I do know. Don't get in the habit of looking
at these mock drafts, and especially if you're a fan
(01:00:11):
of a certain team and they're linked more times than
not to a certain player. I think it's silly to
get ticked off if they don't draft that player. I
think you're just used to the idea of, oh yeah,
this this player be really good. Oh man, they need
a corner, they'd absolutely I'll just do it to be perfect.
They go with the left tackle, and you lose your mind.
(01:00:31):
I never understand that I wouldn't go there, but um
I I wish I had an idea of what the
curveball is going to be. I don't. I don't know
what that's going to be. I just know it's going
to happen, all right. This is not a curve ball.
This is just a straight fastball. You know it's coming here,
Gunter and Minnesota, right. Not a whole lot of deception.
(01:00:55):
He curve at us. You know, we're just talking ninety
nine miles per hour right down the heart of the plate.
Can you hit it? Huh? He's got some timber Wolves
talk for us. What's going on, Gunner? On nothing much?
How's your even going, Gunner? What's going on in your
world on my luncheck right now? Yeah? Okay, what's that
(01:01:18):
looking like? Are you going out for food or do
you bring some with you? Um? Got some? Man? Okay? Yeah?
What are we looking at here on the lunch pro?
Are you eating right? Sandwiches? Very nice? Man? What now?
What kind of bread do you use? Do you go wheat?
You go white? How do you get down me too? Okay,
(01:01:41):
break it down even further? What is your flavor of
jelly or jamb that's a good call. I go grape myself.
I say this, Gunner, I'm in the grape jam mafia.
Grape jam has to at least be in your top
three to be in the grape jam mafia, I am there.
Are you a member of the great jam Mafia? Uh?
(01:02:03):
My second is a third? Uh? I really have a third?
So that so let me get this straight. You you
don't have a third, but you know it's not grape
and thus you're not in the grape jam mafia? Is
that correct? On toast? Yeah? Not on non not on
(01:02:26):
whit bread. How you're not gonna the only toast to
what masked the flavor of grape jam? Is that? What's
going on? It doesn't good work? With team. All right,
got it? So what's up with your Timberwolves? And we
had a call earlier that said your tea Wolves are
gonna get swept by the Grizzlies. What do you think about?
That's a joke. It's not happening. They be in two
(01:02:48):
or three times in the regard season. They both all bocals,
all three times to Hamrans. We didn't have challenge along
those times and we beat them. That's play Towns in
the playing game. What was that? I did expect um
Clippers actually bringing up a team on him? Yea, expect that. Man,
(01:03:10):
He's gonna have to step it up. Obviously, he will
step up in playoffs. Grizzlies don't have votes at Um Center, Ams,
ams won't be able to. So what's the prediction here, Gunner?
What are we talking here? Te Wolves get it done?
He was getting done. I'm must say in SIPs Tea
Wolves in six. Yes, okay, all right, and see the
(01:03:35):
first one tomorrow. Now, I'll tell you this, Gunner, real fast. Here,
your predictions have taken a bit of a hit. You
had Carl Anthony Towns winning the three point shootout, and
you were right about that. It was a great call
by you. Then you had the Tea Wolves getting to
forty seven winds. They came that last game. Yeah yeah, yes, no,
(01:03:56):
the rosen no foods. Huh, and they prevented you from
getting the seven wins, Gunner. Both teams have the maybe
the first half we have a couple of players and
then they sat the rest of him half half. Get
you Jack did uh huh? Yeah? I know it all right, Well,
(01:04:17):
your credibility is on the line here, Gunner. Tea Wolves
in six are you okay with that? You're okay? Your
credibility here? Trust me, Grozeries won't be all handle us.
We are one of the teams that scare everyone in
his playoffs. Alright, well, good luck to you man. You
ball is going this year. They're they're they're probably gonna
get swept, maybe gentlemen sweep at best. They are about
(01:04:40):
to get freaking worked by the Bucks. They have nothing Bucks.
Gunnera play Yeah, he should be out there, but they've
sixteen Gunner there fifteen and one are there one in
fifteen against the Bucks? Right? Yeah, one more thing. Quinn's
(01:05:01):
whope boxing back before this gets all hands? He so
what are you gonna move them down from a hundred
wins to what like? Is that what we're looking at here?
I'm not going to see it. They're not going my
hunter Wind. That's just it's not moving me. Now I'm
from your hunter Wind. All right, we'll see how it
(01:05:23):
checks out, Guna. Good luck to your gris Man. I
appreciate you checking in. You mean Wolves? What did I say?
I'm sorry washing my mouth out with soap? You know
what next segment, I'm washing my mouth out with soap.
I'm sorry. I apologized profusely. Good One thing for Manuel?
It had you called in lately? No, I don't. There's
an a p B on Man. Well, I don't know
(01:05:45):
where he's at. Man, I hope he's okay. Nobody gives it.
Like I said, nobody cares about the Lakers. I hope
we hear from our guy Manuel. But good luck to
your tea wolves, all right, good to hear from me?
All right, Gunner, I'm telling you, Gunner is at the
craps table. You ever bet, yo eleven? Tell your true
(01:06:08):
story real fast. First time I was at the craps table,
I had no idea what I was doing, and they
were telling us how to bet. And they're like all right,
you can play the field if these numbers are rolled.
So one time bet, YadA, YadA. I'm like, what's YO eleven? Oh,
it's one time bet. Odds are fifteen to one. I'm like,
all right, screw it. So I just started flipping like
five dollar chips like YO eleven, and I hit. I
(01:06:32):
don't know how many times I'm telling you, I am
my pox. I had cargo shorts. I've got chips in
my pockets, in my front pockets, I've got nine different pockets.
They all have chips. I'm just using chips. And I
kept betting YO eleven and I didn't have a chip
to my name. Pretty soon. That's Gunner. That's Gunner with predictions.
He's hit on YO eleven and he's still betting YO eleven,
(01:06:54):
and he's not gonna keep hitting on YO eleven. That's
the way it goes. All right, We've got Kevin Figures
with us to spin us around the sporting landscape? What
is going on? Kate fix? All right? Brian Friday Night
in the NBA, the Pelicans got thirty points from Brandon
Ingram and nineteen from CJ. McCollum in a one oh
five to one on one victory over the Clippers, they
clinched the eighth seed and a first round playoff matchup
(01:07:15):
with these sons beginning on Sunday. Out East. Tray Young
score thirty two of his thirty eight points in the
second half as Atlanta defeated Cleveland one oh seven to
one oh one. Hawks have a first round matchup with
top seed at Miami, with Game one slater for Sunday
afternoon at one Eastern and Baseball, the Dodgers beat the
Rats three to one. Marco Gonzalez struck out six and
seven innings of work for Seattle. They curbsed on Houston
(01:07:36):
eleven to one. Alsy Abby's with a home run, leading
the Braves over San Diego. Angels hit five home runs
to beat the Rangers nine to six. Vladimir Garreo Junior
with his major league leading fifth home run, Toronto defeating
Oakland for to one. Giants, White Sox and Cardinals with
victories to home runs for Francisco Lindora as the Mets
defeated Arizona. Alright, Factor Briano Kate Thick, do you get
(01:07:56):
down with casino betting at all? Not? Really? To be honest,
I'm not much of a gambler, No at all. No.
I mean, if I were, I play a little car
a card game here or there, maybe a little poker,
a little black jack. But even then, I've never actually
gone to a casino and done it. I've done it
with friends, you know, a poker night, that sort of thing, sure,
but generally speaking, I'm not. I'm not someone who's gonna,
you know, run to Las Vegas and go to a casino.
(01:08:19):
Now that's fair. I'm not a big casino gambler either.
I like betting on sports, as you know. Right, how's
that going for you? By the way, I'm fine you looking.
Oh man, My practice for fun bets not great lately.
I haven't done a whole lot. It's you know, it's amazing.
How when you're not actually betting money, if you'll lose
(01:08:42):
a bet that's just for fun, no money involved, you
don't have that surge of anger and pure hatred where
you're like, I have to get my money back and
bet again. Like when it's just for fun, you don't
have that. And I haven't done as many practice bets.
Crazy how that works? Yeah, you don't feel the just
to go bet on a rugby match or something nowhere
(01:09:02):
on random Friday night trying to chase that loss. Yeah,
that's right. But uh so cards you get to Texas,
hold them at all ka fig in the middle or
a C doocey like two cards on the outside. You
have to bet if the next cards in between those two?
Do you ever do that? I have not, no, no, man,
I'll tell you what. It's pure evil, but it is
(01:09:25):
funk fig fun. Yeah. So let's say you got I
don't know, like two in an ace, right, and those
are the best odds you can have, So of course
you're gonna go that pot. And if it matches either
card on the outside, let's say it's an ace, you
gotta double whatever your bed is. So these pots are
growing growing, you know. So seventy five dollar pot, you
(01:09:49):
got two deuce. You know, you're like our two ace.
It's like, yeah, pot ace, It's like, are you all
a hundred and fifty dollars? And then the net X
guy does and pretty soon it's like pushing a thousand
dollars and you're like, what is happening right now? That's
a c doc for you. That's a dangerous game. I
don't know if I'm ready to play that one. To
be honest with you, it's quite dangerous tread lately. That's
(01:10:11):
how you gotta have, Brian no money to do that.
I'll tell you what I the true story I could
pull out from I don't know how many years ago
ka fig literally written on paper io Us I literally
have in my wallet from I don't even it's got
to be close to ten years ago. And I Venmo
(01:10:35):
Venmo is the enemy of the io you guy, you know,
because you just it's like, hey, Venmo, me what you
owe me? Right like right now? Not this? Iou that
you never pay up for the next decade. Much better,
much better if you win with Venmo, no doubt. Yeah,
all right, let's get out to Uh. Alexis is over
(01:10:55):
in Las Vegas, wants to check in. What's going on? Alexis? Hello,
you got me? Yeah? I got you? What's up? Yeah?
Let me straighten a few things out which I used
to know. How you doing good? But how are you?
I am great? I am, I'm standing. That's good. That's good.
I'd like to hear that. Faris. He had a guy
(01:11:16):
calling in from Texas or Nebraska, which means he's not
in Los Angeles. Had called in from Seattle. They don't
mean to have a basketball team in Seatta. Oh that
cuts deep, alex Is that hurts. Let's get the record straight.
We are the Los Angeles Lakers, most NBA titles, most
(01:11:41):
historic franchise in NBA history. Let's get the record straight.
Anybody say that you're so having me to talk about that,
they don't even have a basketball team. Why are they calling?
What are they doing? Get off the phone. Anybody calling
some Texas says I'm from California. No self respect in
southern California, says they from California. Second third, we got
(01:12:05):
the most titles in NBA history. We got Lebrons Day
every year. If you want to get somebody on the
phone and they talk about them, Laker talk about seventeen titles.
They do that. But this year we'll have nothing to
talk about because only one team wins the title. The
(01:12:27):
other twenty nine ain't got nothing to talk about. On
to the Clippers, not a single stuff respected Lakers fan
ever talked about the Clipper. That's not a Clipper fan
in Los Angeles. They don't exist. Nobody talks about them.
The opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of
love is indifferent. I didn't even know the Clippers lost
(01:12:48):
tonight until you mentioned it. I couldn't care less about it.
I couldn't care what Paul George is doing, couldn't care
what Kawhiti Leonard is doing. If you want to talk
about Lexis, you're talking about historic, proud chippionship, the name
of our street. And we don't want to talk about
the Clippers. We don't want to talk about textas football.
(01:13:08):
We don't want to talk about whatever they got going
on in Seattle. You know, I'll ask you this man,
because Chris, who is our technical producer extraordinaire, he has
unofficial count. I think he's played the snoring sound effect
four times now while you are on a heater right
now and you're dishing it out. Do you want to
dish out anything to Chris who is not agreeing with
(01:13:29):
what you're saying here? Talk about the now they're talking about.
Tell me his neighborhood. Tell me where he grew up
from Old wal Nut Street, wal Nut Baby, I grew
up in Los Angeles. I have never met a Clippers here,
Cpers what oh yeah, you got history right there? He's
(01:13:50):
you want me to pull out history. Let me talk
about how we beat you with Malone. Oh now he's
got back to you. Alexis, okay, how many upionship banners
to the Clippers? I don't care about drop not dropping
the mic, you're just dropping old potatoes. Yeah, two years old.
(01:14:10):
The Clippers best run to year last year they made
it to the West. Not even listening to me at
this point, Alexis. He's a Pistons guy. He's talking about
how many titles to the Pistons? Guy? Got plenty? I don't.
I don't care about. I don't care about your number.
(01:14:31):
It's not seventeen, it's not are you gonna do this? Is? This? Is? This?
Is this? Kiss the rings? Radio? Is this? What it's not?
It's wow? Man, all right? Our guy alexis waving the
purple and gold banners right there. All right, Hey, I'll
(01:14:56):
just tell you what. There's some hurt feelings from this season.
I get it. The only thing you can go by
if you're a Laker fan right now is history. That's it,
because it's not you want to steer very clear. It's
a magician act, right, It's classic misdirection. It's don't look
at this, look at this don't look at this disastrous
eleventh place finish. Look at the rings from yesteryear. That's
(01:15:17):
the only card you can play right now. That's it.
But appreciate the passion, all right? Eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox is your phone number coming up next?
Who's number four? I'll tell you what that's all about.
I'm Brian No. Keep it locked right here on Fox
Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
Fox sports Radio dot com and within the I Heart
(01:15:41):
Radio app search f s R to listen live. Brian
No here on Fox Sports Radio. Man Lakers the hot
topic right now. Unbelievable and we'll get to the calls
here momentarily. A couple of people want to check in
on the Purple and Gold. Been a lot of back
and forth with them tonight, so we'll have some fun
with that. But real fast, I was just thinking, who's
(01:16:04):
number four right now? A little bit of an odd question.
But think about it this way. If you look at
the NFC, the three top teams, they're expected to be
in no certain order, the Rams, Tampa and Green Bay.
That's what most people anticipate. Maybe Green Bay doesn't end
up being there, but Rams, Tampa, Green Bay, those would
(01:16:25):
be the betting favorites. If you had to bet on
three teams, you would most likely most likely bet on
those three. Who's number four? Who's the fourth team that
could make some noise because you go with that next tier,
And I would say teams like the Cowboys, maybe the Niners,
(01:16:46):
Arizona Cardinals. I would think they're in that next tier.
Maybe there's a surprise, Maybe there's a team like the Saints,
maybe the Vikings. I would look at both of those teams.
You might not love of those teams, but look at
their divisions. If you're the Saints and you play Atlanta
and Carolina four times this season like that, that's favorable.
(01:17:11):
If you look at Minnesota playing the Bears and the Lions,
Sorry Chris a k A Clipper, Chris, as we found out, um,
you know that's advantageous for the Vikings. So one of
those teams is gonna be in the mix come playoff time.
One of those teams might have a home playoff game
or two or mess around. And like the Titans were
(01:17:32):
never the consensus threat in the a f C, but
I mean, one of those teams might mess around and
be a two seed, be a three seed, right like,
it's it's possible. So I'm really curious who from that
next tier turns out to be at least the fourth
team and maybe capable of making a run. Out of
(01:17:52):
all of those, I would say that the Niners intrigued
me the most because it's not like Jimmy G has
set the football world on fire, but they made it
all the way to the NFC Championship Game last season.
I would argue, in spite of Jimmy G, he wasn't
doing anything in the playoffs and they still made it
to the title game. So if Trey Lance comes in there,
(01:18:14):
and as long as he's not horrible, right, they're capable
of making some noise. I'm curious about Arizona also. I
feel like it's Seattle. They've taken a step back. No
Russell Wilson. Can Arizona, who won eleven games, they just
fell apart at the end of the season, can they
take the next step forward. I just think, look, man,
(01:18:34):
some of these teams are gonna make the playoffs, and
then once they do, it's a sixty minute ball game.
Anything can happen. So curious how that shakes out. Let
me get back out to the phones. Here. Eli is
in Fresno, wants to check in. What's going on? Eli,
You're on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, what's going on? Brian?
I hope everything is well with you tonight. Yeah, man,
same with you. Um it's it's starting to sound like
(01:18:57):
a lot to me, like these are Lakers fans are
starting to sound like Cowboys fan. There's something they kind
of sound like, like like Yankee fans to me, where
it's hey, we got twenty seven. It's like, okay, cool,
but what about the here and now though, Yeah, Lebron
does this thing where so I'm my family from Cleveland
from I'm a diehard Cab fan and and we've been
(01:19:20):
bled dry by Lebron twice now and uh, he's he's
definitely done that to l A. I mean he bleeds
you dry of draft assets and then and then moved
on to the next place, which everybody's not privy too yet.
There's speculation, but I promise you Lebron believing soon he
might be He uh slipped a little bit with teaming
up with Brawny and then walked it back saying I
(01:19:42):
don't want to be anywhere but here. So yeah, it
might turn out. The only thing is not many more
years left. He's still playing at a high level, but
the end is somewhere in the near future. You know,
you can you can see the slivage in his play though,
I mean, he's never gone it, just like m J.
Like m J was always able to Coors even up
until the end. The problems on the defensive end, I mean,
(01:20:04):
you just can't. You just can't defend anymore. Yeah, I
hear Eli, And thanks man, thanks for calling in. We're
up against it. But uh yeah, I've got a thought
on that, comparing Lebron to Lebron and others, and also
coming up next rule changes. Would you like to see
this in the NFL as well? We'll go through them. Ah, yes,
(01:20:27):
what's going on? I hope you're enjoying your Saturday morning here.
You know, you might not be, maybe you might not
be on the edge of your seat anticipating the USFL,
but it might be fun. Maybe fun. There's gonna be
a simulcast on Saturday on both Fox and NBC, be
a game at seven thirty, So if you're so inclined,
(01:20:48):
maybe flip on over. Now there's gonna be a quadruple
header of NBA playoff action. But if you're so inclined,
maybe give it a look. Seat Now, I thought this
would be a little bit fun. There are a number
of different rule changes here, a lot of different rules
in the USFL compared to the NFL. So I thought
(01:21:09):
there'd be a little game here. We could play either
neither or both right where the concept is, do you
like this rule for the U s FL. Do you
like it for the NFL? Or do you like it
or dislike it for either? Right? Uh, you understand what
(01:21:31):
I'm going for it here. So if we go through
a few of these, So in the U s FL,
and offense can throw two forward passes behind the line
of scrimmage. I don't like this for either. I just
I mean, that's not football. Two forward passes. So you
could throw a forward pass, think about a screen pass
that's actually a forward pass, and then that running back
(01:21:54):
could just throw it forward. A bit of a trick play,
right there. I'm not a huge fan, not a huge fan,
so I'll go neither on that one, Okay, And over
time in the USFL, here's what they're gonna do. They're
gonna go for two and three, and each team gets
three chances, right, think about it like that, So you
(01:22:15):
run three two point plays? No, God, please, no, no, no, no,
I'm gonna guess that Chris doesn't like this idea, um
a two point conversion shootout? Spare me please, not a fan?
(01:22:38):
Huh Okay, it's too gimmicky. You don't need gimmicks and
football like this. Yeah, there's a total of three plays
for each offense. If it's still tied after that, then
it's sudden death. Next score wins. I'm with you on
this one. I think it's too gimmicky. I understand you
gotta do some things right. I'll give some grace to
the USFL. You gotta differentiate yourself a little bit. You
(01:23:00):
I do a little bit of some wild stuff. We
need viewers over here. But I also think it can't
be too wild. Are you gonna be like that's just
not football though, right, So I'll go neither on that one. Now.
One thing I do like about the USFL traditional kicks
from the twenty five yard line. That's good. We're gonna
get some returns here. I'm a fan of that. Also,
(01:23:21):
you can have a traditional on side kick from the
twenty five yard line, or or you could try to
convert fourth and twelve from your own thirty three yard line.
I definitely go thumbs down if this is an NFL rule.
Think about that. You score and then you're at your
own thirty three and just have to convert fourth and
(01:23:43):
twelve and you maintain possession. That's too easy. That's too
easy for NFL offenses. So I go thumbs down on
the NFL. If you want some wacky outcomes, you want
some drama, I can see why the USL USFL would
do that. So in terms of a trial basis, you know, okay,
(01:24:04):
I'm all, but to it, I still think it's too short.
I would extend that a little bit. It's one of
something's gotta give it. Either can't be at your own
thirty three. That's pretty good field position, or it can't
be fourth and twelve. Right, it's either fourth and twelve
from your own twenty or it's I don't know, fourth
and seventeen from the thirty three. You gotta get to midfield. Something,
(01:24:26):
something's gotta change on that for me to like it
in the NFL. What else do we have here in
the USLF USFL A couple of different ones, so you
have three conversion options after a touchdown, similar to the NFL.
You could kick an extra point from your own fifteen.
You could go for two from the two yard line,
(01:24:49):
or or you could go for three points from the
ten yard line. I hate to sound like sour puss over,
I'm gonna go neither on both. I'll leave the door
cracked that maybe I would come around in the USFL,
because I doubt they'd be going for three routinely, So
(01:25:10):
I'll leave the door barely slightly a jard For the NFL,
I want no part of that. Okay, So we have
no chain gang here in the us F felt there
is a tracking chip inside the football that will indicate spotting.
So it's similar like the first down line, the yellow
line on your TV screen. That's it's basically what they're
(01:25:30):
going with. If the chip says yeah, first down, then
the USFL says, who are we to disagree? Must be
a first down via the chip in the football. I
gotta see this work. I gotta I'm not I'll say this,
I'm not completely against driverless vehicles, but I gotta see
it work. I gotta see it working properly. Right, Like,
(01:25:54):
if we're eliminating the chain gang, I've got to see
the chip in the football not malfunctioning. That's all I'm saying.
And the last rule change. How about this? In the USFL,
there's discussion about a glowing football. So here's the concept.
This would only be near the goal line. When there's
a dog pile right there, a bunch of bodies, you
(01:26:16):
can hardly tell where the football is. They're thinking about
experimenting with a glowing football. Right. Have you ever watched
hockey back in the day Fox tracks? This is Fox Tracks,
That's what it is. Fox had the glowing hockey puck.
They're gonna do the glowing football near the goal line.
So if it's just a massive humanity, you're supposed to
(01:26:38):
be able to tell where the football actually is, similar
to the non Shane Gang chip inside the football indicating
the spot. I gotta see this work with the with
the glowing football. Maybe I like it, I don't know,
but I gotta see it work. You know, if you
want to do this where it literally is a dog
(01:27:00):
pile near the goal line and he can't quite tell
if the running back broke the plane. Okay, all right,
if the quarterback drops back from his own two with
the glowing football on your TV screen. I don't know.
I don't know if I've got if I'm gonna like
that or not. Something I do love helmet camps. I
would love to see that in the NFL. You don't
(01:27:21):
have to go crazy, but yeah, give me a few
helmet camps. Let's spruce it up. And also this for
the USFL, so there will be cameras in the halftime
locker rooms. Sixteen players per team plus head coaches will
be wearing microphones. Yes, there will be a five second delay,
there might be a lot of cursing, but they'll have
(01:27:42):
that locker room footage. If they had that in the NFL,
I don't know that I would go anywhere during halftime.
Are you kidding me? If they showed some of this stuff.
Imagine if a head coach is just yelling at the
team in general or a specific player, just what are
you doing that? Gerresponds up Aldy or whatever. I'd love
(01:28:03):
to hear that. Think about now, this is basketball, but
just popped into my head. Think about the k D
Draymond Green war of words. Remember that they're playing against
the Clippers years ago and and they're going at each
other mostly Draymond is going at k D. Imagine if
that was miked up. Imagine if we had that miked up.
(01:28:24):
Are you kidding me? Yes? Sign me up for that.
So these USFL locker rooms, we're gonna be miked up
at halftime. I would love that to be the case
in the NFL. I think that would be absolutely tremendous.
More inside access all for that. Also, how about these
broadcasting teams. So here's what you get from Fox, Kurt Minife,
(01:28:47):
Joel Klatt, they'll be a team. Also, Kevin Coogler, he's
gonna be out there with Mark Sanchez and Brock Heward'
that's pretty good NBC. You got Jack Collins, were Paul Burmeister.
They'll also have Jason Garrett, Michael Robinson in Cameron Jordan's
(01:29:09):
Now I'm unless there's a Cameron Jordan I'm unaware of.
I believe that's the Saints. Cameron Jordan's right as a
color commentator. It could be fun. I don't know that
Jason Garrett just oozes personality. Wouldn't that be hilarious If
Jason Garrett out of freaking nowhere, he just becomes the
Charles Barkley of USFL, commentating, you know that's a that's
(01:29:33):
a curveball. I would not anticipate being the case, but
there you go. There are a few USFL rules. Would
you like to see him in the NFL? There's only
a couple I would only a couple I would be
open to. But miked up locker rooms. Yes, all systems
go on that I'm probably know here on Fox Sports
Radio now. I believe there's a lot of reaction, Ricky.
(01:29:53):
How many phone calls did you take after Alexis is
pro laker rant about sixty two. I don't what the
over under was, but there were a few people that
dialed in from me, not from Minnesota. It was quite
a few, Yeah, quite a few. So he kept on
saying seventeen championships, and uh, there was some Minnesota natives
(01:30:15):
or at least residents that were like, we get credit
for a few of those. So with that is the backdrop, Sean,
he's over there in Minneapolis. He wants to check in.
I always love this when there is a follow up
to a caller's rant. Here, what do you have for us? Sean?
I just I wanted to call Alexis You're welcome. You
(01:30:36):
got our Lakers. We've won five of those championships in
the fifties up to the Safety and then we gave
you the Lakers. Last time I checked, there's no lake
in Los Angeles. They're all here in Minnesota. So he's welcome.
We don't have a lot of sports luck up here
in Minnesota. We lost four Super Bowls in the seventies. Oh,
the last time I checked, the vikings with purple and gold,
(01:30:58):
that's where the Lakers were. They got that from the
Lakers from Minneapolis. Hey. Hey, by the way, I'm curious
about this though, Sean Sean, is it weird where um?
You know, because you have the Timberwolves now, But if
there's a Laker fan that's saying seventeen titles? Seventeen titles,
does it feel weird to be like, we're responsible for
five of them while you have a new Minnesota franchise.
(01:31:22):
Does that make any sense? Well, that goes with our
hockey team, right. We had the Nurse Stars. They were
in the NHO Playoffs in the finals against the Peglicts.
We lost, our owners, gotten a secular rap and problem.
Moving to Dallas. Two years later, they win the Stanley
Cup in Ballots. We lost their Stanley Cup to them,
so and we've never had one the state of hockey
(01:31:43):
quote unquote, a lot of NHO players come from Minnesota
were about great hockey town. We have never won one
of those. So if the end is weird, yeah yeah, yeah,
what are you doing? You know, Oklahoma had a great run,
but they were the Sonics before in Seattle, and I know,
I like said, doesn't have the best look they did,
They're just in Oklahoma. Now, that's exactly what I was thinking.
(01:32:03):
Imagine if okay See had won twelve championships like the
Lakers have and in Westbrook. I mean, what a team.
But it would make it even more painful for Seattle fans,
you know, Like that's what I'm thinking. For a Minnesota fan,
they go to l A and they win twelve rings.
(01:32:24):
That's that's pretty rough. Well what what I like to say.
And it's funny because if you're getting a bar conversation,
who's the greatest of all time? And see it for Minneapolis,
I would just say George Miken. He was a rookie
in the NBA, won the title in his first year,
won four more after that. One of the greatest basketball
players of all the time. And my dad grew up
in the same neighborhood with George Miken in Minneapolis, and
(01:32:46):
it's like, so, George Miken was a good ball player.
He was probably a little better, yes, or a lot,
but I'm going to a bad Yeah. Well, hey man,
thanks for checking in, Sean. Appreciate that, man. And I'll
say one more time. I like this. You're welcome. Yeah,
(01:33:06):
there you go, There you go. Twelve of those Laker championships,
go back to the Minneapolis Laker days. There you go. Yeah.
I didn't know the exact number, but you know, learn
something tonight. We were all discussing this and we're like,
was it three? I thought it was eight? You know
it was five. It was five, but still five out
(01:33:28):
of seventeen. It's pretty good. Pretty good back in the fifties.
All right, we'll bring it back to present day. Coming
up next. Feel free to check in eight seven, seven,
nine nine on Fox. That is your phone number. I
want to get to this topic. Why would you talk
about this now of all times. We'll get to that.
I'm Brian no keep it locked right here on Fox
(01:33:48):
Sports Radio. Brian No here on Fox Sports Radio. So, uh,
So this almost sounds like a topic for the summer
month of sports radio, where things get a little bit
slow and you just throw something out there and I
don't know, maybe the phones light up and you're like, cool,
(01:34:11):
we got content. You know that that happens from time
to time. But you've got Draymond Green and Steph Curry
talking about the best NBA team ever. This is on
the Graymond Draymond Green Show, and so shockingly they they
(01:34:32):
think highly of one of their teams. So here you go,
here's Draymond and stuff. People take numbers and they want
to put the numbers there and say, oh, the Pools
has seven exactly, we were the best team ever. I
don't I don't care what no one said. I can't
see anyone beating that two thousand seventeen team, not even
our first fifteen sixteen. I can't see anyone beating that
(01:34:53):
two thousand seventeen team. They say in the medical feel
that I concur has. Okay, Now, my first thought on
this is why talk about it now? That that's what
I can't get beyond the NBA playoffs are about to start,
(01:35:17):
Like who cares? Who cares about who the best team was?
It if you're arguing about the Seen Warriors, well, Kevin
Durant obviously is not a member of the team anymore.
So I don't understand what does it really matter if
the Seen Warriors are thought to be the best team ever.
(01:35:37):
I mean, you could have that argument. I think it's
better placed in like July or August or something like that.
But when you're gearing up to compete in the playoffs,
I don't know why. I don't know. I don't understand
the timing of this. And really, look, man, I get it.
These guys are competitive. They strive to be the best.
(01:35:58):
They want to be the best. They want to be
at the out of as the best. Nothing wrong with that,
but really, at the end of the day, what does
it really matter. It's like, I mean, there's no clear
cut there's no consensus. You can make an argument for
the seventeen Warriors if you're comparing them against the they
talked about the Bowls. If you're comparing them to the
(01:36:20):
nineties six Bulls, I would say it depends on what
rules you're playing by. Which era is this nineties basketball
or it's much more physical and the Bulls are playing
like a football style of basketball. At times, I would
side with the balls there. If it's more seen rules,
then yeah, that's gonna be to the warrior's favor. But
(01:36:43):
you could go back and forth with who's guarding m J,
who's guarding KD. You can get into a full blown
discussion about that. I just don't understand why you would
care when you're about to start the playoffs. Like imagine this.
Imagine if before the playoffs began in the NFL, we're
talking like right before the divisional round of the playoffs,
(01:37:07):
or even the wild card weekend. Let's say Tampa they
they're playing on wild card weekend, they're not a one seed,
and which happened this past season, right, so they're about
to take on the Eagles. But before that game, Tom
Brady is on his podcast and he says, you know,
(01:37:28):
I'll tell you what that uh, that twenty six teen
team or whatever, that was the greatest team ever. I mean,
you can talk about those legendary teams, the Steelers, and
but we were the best team. We were the best team.
Like he'd be like, it's kind of weird you're having
this discussion right now, right right. I just I don't
(01:37:52):
know that's what stands out to me. Now, I will
tell you this is a random story, but this whole
thing with Draymond made me think of this. I had
to change what I thought about, um, how athletes operate,
how they think and operate. So I used to think
before a big game that that's all a player could
(01:38:13):
think about. They're locked into the game, all right, what
are my responsibilities were I'm gonna do? Is a huge game, like,
there's a lot of pressure, that type of stuff. And
so when I was a kid, I was in grade school,
I would go to Notre Dame and just visit. I
just go there, and you know, I knew a couple
of the Notre Dame football players, And so I went
(01:38:33):
over to campus the night before the so called Game
of the Century. This goes way way back in the
hot tub time machine to the year. It's when Notre
Dame was facing Florida State. It was number one versus
number two. And I went over to campus, and so
I knew a couple of the guys. Not great, but
(01:38:56):
I knew Lake Dawson. He was a receiver and he
was roommates with Clinton Johnson. And so I go over
and visit from time to time. What's not man and
we play video games that they're great. And so I
went over for some reason the night before the Game
of the Century, and I'll never forget Raised Ellers was
a fullback for Notre Dame and he was there as
(01:39:19):
just hanging out, and I look over in ray is
eating this monstrous piece of cake, and I remember thinking
at the time, Wow, how can he be relaxed enough
on the eve of the Game of the Century to
eat cake? It just it blew my mind when I
(01:39:42):
was in grade school at the time, but it changed
how I thought, you know. And so I think back
to that as it relates to Draymond Green, where I'm thinking,
how are you talking about the greatest team of all time?
And all that team, even our fifteen sixteen team, even
our twenty of team team, they couldn't beat our seventeen team,
(01:40:03):
and those nineties Bowls they couldn't been So most of
me is thinking, Bro, you're about to start the playoffs.
Why are you giving this any thought whatsoever? But going
back to Raise Ellers eating cake the night the night
before the Game of the Century, it's a reminder that
you don't have to live, breathe, eat, drink nothing but
(01:40:27):
your upcoming game or the upcoming playoffs. You can do
two things at once, you know, so I think sometimes
when you get away from the game, I mean, you're
not like an active player anymore. Sometimes you get away
from these are just people, and they can actually prepare
(01:40:48):
for the playoffs and still entertain a conversation about whatever
the night before. It's just I sound like I'm saying
two different things at once, and I partially am. I
still go back to even though it's understandable you're gonna
think about things not related to the upcoming playoffs, it
(01:41:09):
still feels weird, Like I still can't get beyond the
thought of a guy like Tom Brady or whomever, right, like,
think of someone well decorated. Um, you could keep it
in basketball. What what if Janice right, what if you
honest before the playoffs this year, if he went on
a podcast and he was like, you know what, our
(01:41:31):
Bucks team last season, it wasn't just the best team
of last season, it was the best team of all time.
I mean, forget about who's guarding Jordan, who's guarding me,
and he just goes on this whole thing. It would
just sound weird, wouldn't it. I asked, even though that's
the best way I could boil it down. Even though
you can do two things at once, which is prepared
(01:41:53):
for the upcoming playoffs and talk about something that really
doesn't have anything to do with the upcoming playoffs. That
can be done. But it's just weird freaking timing. It's
just odd to have this discussion now, of all times.
That's where I'll leave that. Feel free to check in
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox is your phone
(01:42:13):
number checking in with us right now? It's the one
and only the great Mr Kevin figures what's going on?
K vix All right, Brian will start with the NBA.
How about the Pelicans headed back to the postseason. They
defeat the Clippers one oh five to one oh one
in the final playing game on Friday Night. A couple
of big performances by some former Lakers. Brandon Ingram thirty
points fourteen of twenty one from the field for him.
(01:42:34):
Larry NaN's Jr. His first double double of the season
fourteen points and sixteen boards. Game one of their first
round series against Phoenix is Sunday nights. The Hawks clinch
the eight seed in the Eastern Conference. A one oh
seven to one oh one victory over Cleveland, Trey Young
the leaguing score with thirty eight points and injury scare
for Clint Capella went down with a knee injury in
the first half. You will have an m r RI
(01:42:55):
later today to determine his availability for Game one against
Miami on Sunday afternoon. More injury news Steph Curry, who
has been out for about a month now. He is
going to play tonight on a minute's limit, albeit in
Game one against Denver. Uh tonight in baseball, I don't
do all what they go ahead RBI double leading Atlanta
over the Padres five to two. Showy Otani hit two
of the Angels five home runs as they defeated the
(01:43:17):
Rangers three to one. Victory for the Dodgers over the Reds.
Former Dodger Doc Peterson a home run helping San Francisco
beat the Guardians for to one. Wins for Toronto, Colorado, Detroit,
and Seattle. Back to brian O kay Fick, let me
pick your brain here about the NBA playoffs for a
little bit and just what the injury bug Luca don
(01:43:37):
chich out for Game one. We don't know when he's
gonna be set to play against the Jazz if at
all with that cap strain. And then also Ben Simmons
willie play, won't he play? Steph Curry is on track
to be back in Game one just an injury wise man,
what do you make all that stuff? Yeah, well, I
feel like Ben Simmons is likely not going to be
(01:43:58):
a factor. You're talking about someone who in the biggest
moment last year in the playoffs basically shrunk and had
the you know, the mental issues and and the whole
shenanigans with the Philadelphia seventies six or so. Now, all
of a sudden, after sitting out an entire season, you're
gonna bring him back in and put him back into
the postseason again as his first game action. So healthy
or not, I doubt that he sees the courts. I
don't think you have to worry about that. Steph is
(01:44:19):
interesting because I do feel that Denver from a matchup standpoint,
matches up pretty well with Golden State. If Steph Curry
is close to UH, I think Denver could STI give
him a run for their money. But if he is not,
and say he has to miss her game or he
has this minutes limit, and it really restricts the amount
of time he's on the floor with him. I can
see Denver possibly giving Golden State a bit of a run,
(01:44:39):
and then Dallas, I really don't trust, to be honest
with you. If Luca don Check is not playing, they
have zero shot obviously, and even with him playing, I
feel like the recipe has kind of been in order
for the last couple of years in the playoffs. Let
Luca do his own thing and just shut down everybody else.
That's pretty much. They're pretty easy to defend in the
playoffs and have been the last couple of years. The
only saving grace for them this year, Brian, They're are
(01:45:00):
defensively than they have been the last couple of years,
and Utah is falling apart at the wrong time, so
maybe that kind of falls into their favor. Look at
you are all fired up. I can feel it. You're ready.
You're ready for the NBA. I'm locked in. I am too, man,
And that is you know what's crazy about the Luca injury.
We talked about this last week where Luca got seed
(01:45:21):
up for a sixteenth time, actually for a seventeenth time,
but one of them was rescinded. They rescinded the latest
technical foul and he was able to play in the
season finale. If that technical wasn't rescinded, he was suspended
automatically for one game. He wouldn't have played that game
(01:45:43):
and he'd be totally healthy right now, How crazy is that?
Totally crazy? And he played the game to try to
help improve their seating. Yeah, they needed to play that game.
It's like, I think you'd rather have Luca as healthy
as possible, regardless of what seed you have from the
playoffs start right then listen, I don't have They didn't
have a crystal ball, right, so of course you play
the guy. And then it just so happens that he
(01:46:04):
strains his calf muscle while they won, right, So that
helped their seating. And he's out for Game one, and
who knows how many games he's out for in this series. Yeah,
because I mean he's already you know he's gonna be
out for game one, and now they're the early speculation
is he could be out for game two. I can't
see them winning a single game with him not in
the lineup, so it was gonna be hard enough for
them to win with him. Like I mentioned, if he's
(01:46:26):
missing two games. I mean, they're they're dead two rights
in the series, even against again a Utah team that's
not playing well right now. I just hope, I mean,
this is as obvious as it gets. There are a
lot of injuries in the playoffs last season. I just
hope we're not headed toward anything even close to that
this year. But you start wondering, right, Paul George contracted
(01:46:47):
covid of all times when when their season was on
the line, he didn't play on Friday Night, And then
you have the freak injury with Luca and hopefully it's minor,
and you see him a good portion of this series
against the Jazz, and if they survive, you know he's
around for the long haul. But man, I don't know.
I just hope that it's not a replay of last season.
(01:47:09):
I'll ask you this though, because he mentioned Ben Simmons.
If he's cleared, you're still like, no, I don't think
it's the time to bring him back in the playoffs.
I would go the other way though, right, I would
go the other way, k fit, because I think it's
about his role. You know, if he's cleared physically and
he's just asked to be a facilitator and just play
lockdown defense, which is sorely needed from the nets, and
(01:47:32):
you're talking fifteen twenty minutes. If he's cleared physically, I
would absolutely turn him loose. Yeah, it's just tough for me. Chemistry,
I do think is a big thing, especially in the postseason,
when you're seeing the same opponent on a night in,
night out basis for seven games, as opposed to playing
a good team one night and then the terrible team
the next night and getting your sea legs under you.
It's just really difficult, at least for me to throw
(01:47:52):
him back in there when he hasn't played in over
a year and trying to find that continuity with guys
he has literally never played with before. That's hard. Yeah,
I get it. I get you know what, it might
just be nightmares from the last time we saw him.
Could be. I mean, it's also like you're not if
you were on one seed or something and you were
and you were playing the Hawks, who just snuck in. Fine,
You're playing against the Boston Celtic team that's one of
(01:48:14):
the best teams in the NBA the entire second half
of the season. This is not a sloutch that should
throwing him in there against and as good as he
is defensively, you know, offensively he's a he's a giant,
it's a whole. He doesn't do much for you on
that end. You were asking him to come in fresh
without playing with these guys, to be the head of
the snake on offense, to run the offense. I think
that's a lot to ask, I hear you, but it's uh,
(01:48:36):
it's like, you know, find the guy wearing number seven
and he'll go to work, you know, and and just
d up the guy you're guarding. You know, he could
do that. He absolutely could do that. He would be
a lot more valuable if he could shoot, obviously speaking,
but if he would, say a three and D type
of player who didn't have to have the ball in
his hands to be effective, I think I will be
more apt to throw him in the line up and say, Okay,
(01:48:58):
go out there, play some defense, spot up behind the line,
and see what you can do. When you're a player
that has to thrive with the ball in your hands
and you have not done it all season long with
all of these guys on your roster, I just have
a hard time seeing that working out. You know, maybe
he'll be the new era. Instead of three and D,
he'll just be D and D. Give us a double
dose of defense. Man, that's it. That's what we need
(01:49:19):
from you on that team. That's absolutely what they need
for sure. All right there, he is k fake with us.
Good stuff. Man. Let me go out to the phones here,
my guy. I haven't talked to this dude forever. Mike
in Troy, and I can't believe it says wants to
talk Yankees when his nets his nets are in the
plaist was talking Yankees over here. What's going on? Mike
and Troy? I appreciate that you shouldn't want and it
(01:49:45):
just seems like a good talent and field, but the
pitching is suspect. Please well, I mean, I mean, I
don't get It's early in the season, Mike. That's the thing.
I'll tell you, right like, you can't go like too
deep with the judgments this early. You know, I'll just
(01:50:10):
give it a little bit more time because they got
talent all over the place. And uh, it's a long
baseball season, right You're gonna have uh peaks and valleys, Mike,
peaks and valleys, you know, I'd give it a little
bit more time though. All right, thank you, you got it. Mike.
There he is my Controy checking in. Alright, eight seven
seven on Fox. That is your phone number. All right,
(01:50:35):
coming up next. We got a lot to do, lots
going on here. So um, there were two contract extensions.
One was talking it talked about a whole lot more
than the other, and reasonably so. But it's the other
contract that is more meaningful. I'll explain all of that
(01:50:56):
right around the corner. Keep it locked right here on
Brian Now with you on Fox Sports Radio. Ox Sports

Sports Radio. You know, I talked about Raves and E
(01:51:16):
d M shows every now and then. I've never been.
I've been to a couple of country concerts, though, Chris,
you've been to a country country show? Is that off
the list? I guess they could have called it country
the one show I went to, Yeah, what was that
all about? It was? It was more grungy country, but
you know, grunge country, not not grunges in the music,
(01:51:37):
but I'm trying to think of a better word. They
called it like outlaw country. It was some band I
never heard of, but it was definitely, uh it was country. Okay,
it definitely wasn't Hank Williams Jr. But I'm just thinking
about it now that I'm listening to because obviously the
song is odd in Denver, and I'm just thinking about, yeah,
that that had some themes going in there too. Yeah, yeah,
(01:51:58):
I've seen it up of country shows. I saw Brad
Paisley once Bradkin shred. It's a pretty good guitarist. I
swear you could be in a metal band if he
wanted to. I um. And I also saw Blake Shelton
was the other guy. What a pretty good show. Not
a fan I know of Blake Shelton, the guy who
(01:52:19):
was in all those like Pizza Hut commercials and everywhere
for like a hot men. That's that's what turns you off.
Too many Pizza Hut commercial No, that was that that,
it was part of it. It was part of it.
I I I like a lot of older country and
as such, I'm not a fan of the Nashville scene
and Blake Shelton screams Nashville scene. I swear, dude, I
(01:52:39):
don't know your age, Chris, but you're I'll just guess.
I'll just throw something out there. I have no idea
you're like thirty one going on seventy three. You know.
I feel like that with you, Chris? Is that fair?
I feel like a country is the roots of country
or this it ain't saying, but I'm not saying that
this is his Taylor as old as time though about
Nashville ver nash little country versus good country. You remember
(01:53:03):
we had that whole thing going up with um little
No Sax and like old Town Road, Yeah, and like
who is it was a Billy ray Cyrus who jumped in.
Because Billy ray Cyrus had the same thing happened to him.
All the Nashville people turned against him for a key
breaky Heart and they hated it and they said it
wasn't real country and how could you do this? And
then little nos X comes along and Billy ray Cyrus
(01:53:24):
is like, yeah, you're doing the same thing I did.
You're you're you're, you're you're making mad all these whity
twity people in Nashville who once you're dead like Johnny
Cash enshrine you and worship you, but when they were alive,
they spit on your face. Seeing now like this rant
I heard Ricky for a second. You know, Ricky, do
you think I'm onto something? Is Chris thirty one going
(01:53:46):
on seventy three? Absolutely? Yeah, yeah, I'll take it. Yeah, man,
And I love him for it. It's his vibe. Right,
it wouldn't be right. It wouldn't be Chris if all
of a sudden he was like, you know, lovey, dovey
or welcoming, or it just wouldn't be He's got this
Philly like, get out of my face, you stink kind
(01:54:08):
of side to him. I think it comes with Detroit sports, Uh, territory.
I'm not gonna lie. I could see that. I feel
I feel like I feel like being from around Detroit.
You get the you said Philly, but yeah, same vibe.
You know you have a chip on your shoulder, just
piste off of the world and everything. Yeah, little Boston,
little Boston angst Yeah, I mean, and especially in Detroit
(01:54:30):
where you know, you'd have to listen to people during
the bankruptcy. You'd hear people on TV, like sitting senators
saying like, oh, yeah, we should bulldoze the city start over.
You get mad at people after that? Uh yeah, Hey,
um let me switch gears on you here, Brian not
with you here on Fox Sports Radio. So Jerry Jones,
(01:54:52):
Dallas Cowboys GM team owner, right, he was talking recently
about Deshaun Watson's contract, and of course he expanded it
and used it as a reference point and compared it
to the contract that they agreed to with Dak Prescott.
So before we get any further, here's what Jerry Jones
said about Deshaun Watson's monster pay day from the Cleveland Browns.
(01:55:15):
I'm proud that we have it. I think that when
I look at what has happened since we've done the
contract with the reps, what Doc has evolved, and what
we're doing in here to look for players that compliment
what he does the best DECKX who in my mind,
who were complimenting when we look at what we're doing,
(01:55:37):
whether we're blocking him out or whether we're basically trying
to get him some field positions. So, yes, we're glad
we got him and Sean's contract was it was a
big one. Uh. It just reinforces, Uh, it just takes Uh,
one or two teams to really covet a player, and uh,
they really get those numbers on up there. Okay, So
(01:55:59):
that last part, it's what stands out to me the most.
Right when you get a few teams bidding against each other,
that's what gets the numbers even higher. And that's exactly
what happened with Deshaun Watson. Like a lot of people
think this is such a precedent setter Deshaun Watson's contract,
I don't think that at all. I think that it
(01:56:20):
makes negotiations a bit tougher because there will be quarterbacks
that think they should get Deshaun Watson type money, and
the thing that they're gonna find out is organizations are like,
we're just negotiating with you. We're not a negotiating against
four or five other teams that are trying to trade
(01:56:41):
for you all at the same time right now. So
I don't think that Deshaun Watson's contract is close to
the president center that a lot of teams seem to
think it will be. I don't think that's the case
at all. Now, Derek Carr, he's not as good as
the Sehn Watson is on the football field. We know
(01:57:01):
that Deshaun Watson is a better quarterback than Derek Carr is,
so you take that into account. But Derek Carr being
the next quarterback up, he made a lot of money.
He's getting forty million dollars per year with the Raiders,
but it's not a fully guaranteed two hundred and thirty
million dollar deal. He's not a three year extension for
(01:57:24):
a little north of a hundred and twenty one million.
Like that's a good pay day, but it's not Deshaun
Watson money. And you could look at it one of
two ways. You could say, well, Brian, it's because he's
not as good as DeShawn Watson. Yeah, that's part of it.
But it's also because the Raiders aren't bidding against anybody else.
They're just negotiating with Derek Carr and his agent one
(01:57:47):
on one. There are no other teams involved here. So
I don't think that it's nearly going to set the
president that some people do. Even when you see guys
take a guy like Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow, both
of those guys are are right there with Deshaun Watson
in terms of ability on the football field, and they're
(01:58:12):
not gonna get fully guaranteed contracts for two hundred and
thirty million dollars. It's not gonna happen because they're not
bidding against other teams. So I think that what Jerry
Jones is saying, yeah, I get it where he looks
at Dak Prescott's deal and it looks a lot better
now that it's not a fully guaranteed two hundred thirty
million dollar deal. But I also think that they weren't
(01:58:38):
bidding against other teams for his services, and that's the
main reason why it isn't there. It's not just that
Dak isn't as good as DeShawn. You don't have three
or four other teams in the mix. Also, now, I'll
tell you this, as far as Kyler Murray goes, Kyler
Murray wants to get paid. He wants to monster contract extension.
(01:59:00):
If I'm Kyler Murray, I would be more ticked off
about the Derek card deal than I am the Deshaun
Watson deal. Because if I'm Kyler Murray, I'm like, I'm
better than Derek Carr and you can't break me off
along those lines, right, Like, that's a legitimate argument, but
there's no way Kyler Murray is gonna get two hundred
(01:59:21):
thirty million dollars guaranteed. There's no bidding war Lamar Jackson's
not gonna get that again, justin Herbert Joe Burrow. None
of those guys are gonna get it. Um. So no,
let's talk about, Oh, it sets the precedent and these
contracts just get bigger and bigger than next time. No, No,
it's not gonna work like that. Is that like Deshaun
Watson's deal is an outlier, That deal is on an
(01:59:43):
island of its own. That that's not the mainland. That's
not the way that things are going to be done
going forward. Where teams left and right they have no
other choice but to give a fully guaranteed two hundred
plus million dollar contracts not gonna happen. I planned to
get to coming up next. We've got a great change
(02:00:03):
and a bad, bad market for a certain player. Ah, yes,
what's going on? I hope you're enjoying your Saturday morning.
Lots going on, lots going on. I gotta get to
the tweets here momentarily. A couple of things that uh,
we're amusing to me get to the calls as well.
Eight seven, seven, nine nine on Fox. Yeah. I want
(02:00:24):
to start off this hour. We will get to uh
Ricky and his fantasy baseball exploits. I randomly saw that
he was paying Roberto who works on the Ben Maller Show,
a fee on Venmo for the two fantasy baseball excursion
that they have going on. We'll do a deep dive
into that deep dive great for ratings. But I want
(02:00:46):
to start this hour with the play in Tournament. I
think it's been a rousing success for the NBA. Rousing
Friday night did not disappoint. The double header do or
die situation. Who's gonna be the number eight seed in
each conference? Turned out? It was the Hawks. Hawks got
it done on the road, thirty eight points for Trey Young,
(02:01:07):
thirty two of those thirty eight in the second half.
He was cooking. They get the road win against the
Cabs and then the Clippers. They could not get it
done at home. It's very entertaining ball game. The Pelicans
come back in the fourth quarter and they get it done.
They finished the deal. They are the eight seed. Now
(02:01:28):
a couple of things here. First off, Willie Green, head
coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, what a speech. Huh
before the fourth quarter? Miked up on T n T.
Here's how it sounded the fourth quarters. Get your freak
heads up. This is what we live for, this is
(02:01:50):
what we worked hard for. Okay, we ain't giving it up.
We are not freaking giving us up. You want a
freaking fight, A fight like that's awesome, right? I love that.
I think they were down by ten at the time
they come back. They end up winning the game. Pelicans
moving on. But I'll tell you this has been a
(02:02:14):
complete success for the NBA. The play in has made
the regular season better. There have been more teams that
have been alive for the playoffs. I think it's also
made the seven and eight seeds way more entertaining. Think
about this. If we didn't have the playing tournament, you
(02:02:35):
wouldn't have gotten Patrick Beverley jumping up on the scorer's
table as if he had just want to world championship,
throwing his jersey into the crowd, crying tears of joy.
You wouldn't have gotten Anthony Edwards with a great performance
for the Timberwolves. You wouldn't have gotten anything. On Friday,
Brandon Ingram was cooking for the Pelicans. Larry Nance Jr.
(02:02:57):
Had a very good game, and he had Trey Young.
Like you're boosting profiles. The NBA for a long long
time has marketed their stars. They make all the promotions
about their stars. They highlight them. And what the playing
tournament does it helps build some resumes, it helps build
some credibility. That's good. It's a win win for the NBA.
(02:03:20):
Spruce is up the regular season, spruce is up the
very beginning of the playoffs. I mean, really, I completely
get lost in the drama. I completely forgot that both
games on Friday, which were very, very good, especially the
nightcap with the Pelicans and Clippers, I'm completely forgetting that
(02:03:41):
this is for the right to be the eight seed,
Like like, your chances of taking down the Suns are
not good at all. I don't even care. During the game,
we got trauma, we got good basketball back and forth.
The Clippers that third quarter were playing lock down defense.
(02:04:04):
It was tremendous, and then it looked like they they
got a little bit winded. There's a questionable substitution when
Tyler took out, but toom then make a whole lot
of sense. But in any event, they are going at
it and it was great. If you're a hoops fan,
it was awesome, I thought. I think the playing tournament
(02:04:25):
has been tremendous for the NBA. And you get some
wacky stuff too, like the lady that was gluing herself
to the court. We don't get glue if not for
the playing tournament, right, that's what the price of admission.
Who glues themselves to a court? Well, some lady during
the playing tournament does apparently. So I think it's just
(02:04:46):
been tremendous and I think it's a good little ramp
up to the beginning of the actual playoffs. So win win.
I think it's been tremendous for the NBA. I'm Brian
Know with you here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, So
I mentioned a great change that would be the play
in tournament. I think that's worked out great. And a
(02:05:08):
bad market. What is the bad market about? That would
be about one Baker Mayfield. So, Baker Mayfield, he was
on the You Never No podcast. I have no idea
what this thing is about. Might be very successful and
God bless him. I have no idea based on the
title what it's about. No clue. But they talked to
(02:05:29):
Baker Mayfield about football and Baker said a couple of
things that really stood out. Baker was talking about feeling
disrespected because I was told one thing and they completed another. Okay,
talking about the Browns organization, they had the audacity, apparently
according to Baker Mayfield, to tell him he would be back,
(02:05:50):
he'd be their quarterback, and then they ended up going
with Deshaun Watson. Of of course they would try to
upgrade that position from Baker Mayfield. And the other thing
that Baker Mayfield said, he was like, a, you know,
maybe maybe Seattle. Maybe I end up in Seattle. It
was the next day, maybe two days later, is the
(02:06:11):
same week the Seahawks signed Geno Smith. So the Seahawks
are like, Baker, we're good. We we'd have to trade
something for the guy. We'd have to pick up a
bulk of his like nineteen million dollar price tag. We're good.
(02:06:32):
We'll just run it with Drew Lock and Gino Smith
right now. Who knows, maybe they do something draftwise, even
though they don't have a first round pick, But as
of right now, it seems like the Seahawks would be
content going into the season with Drew Lock and Gino
Smith instead of Baker Mayfield. Now, there are a couple
(02:06:52):
of things here. If you look at Baker, just look
at a few things that have unfolded this season of
this offseason rather so, First off, the Browns go with
Deshaun Watson over Baker Mayfield. Now, it's not as cut
and dry it as well, Deshaun Watson's the better football player, well,
clearly he is, but there are a few other things
to consider here. The Browns went with DeShawn Watson. And
(02:07:18):
look at the compensation it took to get the guy.
Premium draft picks, multiple premium draft picks, three first rounders
for the next three years, and then some two hundred
thirty million dollars in guaranteed cash. Oh and, by the way,
twenty two civil cases alleging sexual misconduct and sexual assault
(02:07:43):
that have yet to be sorted out. Oh and by
the way, Baker Mayfield has spent four years in that
same organization, which you would think would count for something
like chemistry continuity. Knowing the head coach that they still,
with all those things on the table, went with DeShawn Watson.
(02:08:05):
So it's not as clear cut as Deshawn's better than Baker,
therefore they went with him. It's like they went with
DeShawn with all of the other drawbacks, civil cases, fully
guaranteed contract, premium draft picks, and oh, by the way,
Baker is here right now on a complete and utter
discount for an actual difference making quarterback making nineteen million dollars.
(02:08:29):
That's a that's a bargain, right, But it seems like
a burden because Baker is not a difference maker. And
the other part is to just kind of gauge where
Baker Mayfield's market stands. Look at the Colts. The Colts
took Matt Ryan over Baker Mayfield. Now you can look
(02:08:50):
and say, hey, well, Matt Ryan's a better quarterback even
at this stage than Baker Mayfield. And I would agree
with that. The differences that Baker Mayfield turned twenty seven
two days ago, Matt Ryan turns thirty seven next month.
That's the difference. It's not just about Matt Ryan's better
(02:09:12):
than Baker. Clearly he is. He might disagree with Clearly,
I would say, clearly, Baker is just not a difference maker.
And you know Matt Ryan is better. Days are behind him.
But let's put it this way. Matt Ryan with the
Colts or Baker Mayfield with the Colts, who are you
expecting more from I expect more from Matt Ryan, whether
you agree with that or not. Matt Ryan turns thirty
(02:09:35):
seven in May. Baker Mayfield is twenty seven. He's ten
years younger, and yet the Colts are are still like,
let's go with the old guy who might have a
couple of years left maybe, instead of Baker Mayfield, who's
still in his twenties. That tells you all you need
(02:09:56):
to know of what the market thinks of Baker Mayfield.
So going back to the original thought, which is I
feel disrespected. He told me one thing, did another. It's like,
look at the other thirty one teams. They have loudly
said you're not a difference maker. Baker not a difference maker.
(02:10:19):
And so you can't feel too disrespected by the Browns organization.
You know, I don't care what they told you. Your
market is not there. It's like not registering here. And
so if the Browns have a chance to upgrade, even
paying a premium price, bro, They're gonna do it. And
that's exactly what they did. One other thing here. This
(02:10:44):
is just the cherry on top of where Baker Mayfield
is in the whole pecking order where his market is.
So Ian Rappaport NFL Insider, he threw it out there
that the Panthers are the most likely landing spot for
Baker Mayfield, and Panthers wide receiver Robbie Anderson just commented, no,
(02:11:12):
this is a real story. And then also there was
an Instagram post that linked Mayfield to Carolina and the
post said, man, hope that this isn't the case, right,
and Robbie Anderson just commented by saying facts, just like, yeah,
right on, don't want this guy? No, thanks, hard pass.
(02:11:36):
That's where it is for Baker Mayfield. You have wide
receivers in the NFL at least one guy. And Robbie
Anderson vocally saying no thinks when their team is linked
to possibly acquiring Baker Mayfield. I mean, with all that
taken into account, you can't be too miffed at the
(02:11:58):
Browns and Field to disrespected when it's not like the
Browns or the outlier. I'll put it this way. If
the Browns had said, Baker, you're gonna be our guy,
and then they traded for Deshaun Watson, and the Browns
had to trade Baker Mayfield and you had teams just
chomping at the bit. Just where do we sign up
to get Baker Mayfield? Name your price tag Cleveland all
(02:12:22):
you need a second round or second round or done?
You need us to pick up the full tab nineteen million?
No problem. If you had a bunch of teams lining
up for Baker Mayfield services, that would be one one thing.
You have nobody lining up for his services. So with
that in mind, you can't feel too disrespected by the
Browns organization. Right. Um, we'll get to the tweets momentarily.
(02:12:46):
There was one tweet I saw that was that was
pretty funny to me. Of course we will. I mean,
I'm not not gonna leave you hanging here. You want
to get to the ins and outs of Ricky's fantasy
baseball team? Huh? He paid Robert oh who works on
the Ben Mallors Show. The entrance fee? I have questions,
what are we talking? What's the entrance fee? What's the
(02:13:07):
team name? How good is Ricky with evaluating fantasy baseball players?
We'll do a deep freaking dive, all right, no stone
left unturned? And then also this man one of my
absolute favorite teams, and oh what could have been? So
(02:13:28):
close to relevance and yet so far away. We'll get
to that as well. Hang with us right here. I'm
Brian no with you on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian
No here on Fox Sports Radio. Tweet that caught my attention. Here,
Matt the Warriors, Raiders and as fan. He just uh
was chiming in about a caller that was waxing poetic
(02:13:51):
about the Lakers seventeen championships. He just wrote in the
Lakers franchise has seventeen championships, five in Minneapolis, eleven in
Los Angeles, and one in Disney World after Lebron got
five months to rest up. I mean that that sounds
like Matt Right might root for the Warriors. You know,
(02:14:11):
it sounds sounds like that. You know. It's funny. That's
what I love about the job so much. You just
never know. You never quite know which direction it's exactly
gonna go in. You get a tweet, you get a call,
and it's just like, oh wow, all right, we're talking
about this. Cool And that's what I love the unpredictability
about it. But yeah, there was some Clipper angst, some
(02:14:35):
Laker hatred, and just back and forth, man, back and
forth we go. It's entertaining love that. Let me work
in a couple of calls here. Our guy Travis is
in Chatsworth and wants to check in. What's going on, Travis,
You're on Fox Sports Radio. All right, I have a
trade offer you for you Brian. Oh okay, I'm gonna
(02:14:56):
offer you. I'm gonna offer you Baker Mayfield out of
twenty million a year, and I'm gonna offer you Russell
Westbrook about fifty million a year for an help local
gift card. I mean, I think it's an unfair trade.
I certainly salaries don't match, so that's a no go
(02:15:17):
in the NBA. But um, you know, like seriously, I
think you're onto something here, Like what are they actually
gonna get? You're gonna get pennies back on the dollar
for both of those guys. It's the only way it
can work out. I think you're right to put Baker
on the delusional uh list from earlier, just because anytime
(02:15:37):
you see an athlete that is as passionate as he
is and as as fired up as he is, you're
kind of getting that red flag that the performance isn't
quite there. Because I disagree with you, Travis, I would
just because look at Tom Brady. Tom Brady is always
doing the let's go and he's always fiery. True, but
(02:15:59):
it's what, Yeah, like Baker, I don't mind him being
fired up and being animated. That's great. It's just produced
be reliable and he's not. Yeah, all right, Well, at
least I didn't get run by Chris. I know, thanks
for checking in you too, But yeah, Chris, what's up
(02:16:21):
with that? Man? Your trigger finger on the calls? It's
now Alexis in l a and our guy angry Bill
down in Jacksonville. What's up with you? Man? The Detroit
angst right there? You know, you know you need a hug.
What's going on with you? Nah? That just probably pissed
(02:16:41):
me off. We've got Ken in Michigan. Ken, what's going on? Man?
And the only thing I can say about Chris who
he's a Lion fan like me, But I've done one
for sixty five years, so I can understand his frustration.
And as by the way, you know, I don't want
(02:17:01):
to put you in a bad mood here, Ken, But
what has been the biggest heartbreak over the years for
a Lions fan? The biggest heartbreak? Yeah? Oh, gosh, it
had to be Matt Millan. I mean, that's what's just
totally incompetence speak his name in the in the town
(02:17:22):
for a few years there. Uh, Barry Sanders retiring because
Bobby Ross lied to him. Barry went in there and
told him, Uh, Bobby, you've got to take the onus
off of me, because you had Scott Mitchell, you had
Herman Moore, you had Brett Perryman. And it was like, uh,
you know, he's sure, very sure. So you know that
(02:17:45):
that sent in uh Bobby, you know that sent Verry
into early retirements. But getting back at it, it was
the uh, it was the Calvin Johnson play. We got
just totally ripped off, Brian because the Cowboys, for no, no,
this one was against Chicago. It was the first game
(02:18:05):
of me it was it was it was Matt Stafford's
first game of the year, but he didn't show the bass.
It was it was Sean Hill Julius Peppers took out
Matt Stafford right before halftime. Classed the end in uh
hitting a Stafford in the need. But that Calvin Johnson
thing was a catch because what happened was is while
(02:18:29):
Calvin Johnson was going down. I mean, he's six five.
They called him Megatron. He's got these big hands and
he's showing the ball to the referee as he's going down,
and the referee shows it up like that. Then Calvin
Johnson bounces up, uses the ball as a prop. Then
that Roger Goodell comes in there. He just replaced called
(02:18:50):
Tagley Brue. Yeah, I understand, Chris. That's why you're mad
because they ripped the Lions off of that game and
it was Roger Getdell's first game. As he still sucks. See,
I told you called in in a good mood, and
I just throw you completely off Ken by asking you
about Memory Nightmare Lane, about the Lions. I feel horrible
(02:19:13):
about myself right now. Oh I have you? You messed
me out of my Baker Mayfield story, which was really
good man. Okay, all right, real fast, what do you have?
What's the Baker Mayfield thing? Baker Mayfield late Travis Drew Greees, Westlake,
Nick Foles, Westlake. I met Nick Foles back up at Westlake.
His name was Mike McKay. He dated Drew Greece's younger sister.
(02:19:39):
And I asked you, I says, Mike, did you gever
get into the red zone and I had to turn
out is that it is there? There? There's a report
back there. He just said that was funny. He was
such a fine gentleman his dad. I mean, he was
making bank. He was handsome. He he could have been
(02:20:01):
in the NFL. But he's doing all right. It's same
to you can appreciate the phone call. How about that
fun fact though, instead of Matthew Stafford throwing the ball
to Megatron where you probably remember, he caught it in
the back of the end zone. He even showed the
ball to the ref and then I think it hit
(02:20:22):
his knee and he lost control. It clearly should have
been a touchdown. They reviewed it and said he didn't
have it for long enough and it was total bogus.
But instead of Stafford throwing him the ball, it was
Sean hill Man. That is a good pull by. How
about ken Ken was talking like he remembered it from yesterday,
Julius Pepper's hit Stafford and then income Seawan hill There
(02:20:44):
we go very nice. You know we could do we
could do a long time on the heartbreak of the
Detroit Lions. You know, I could do a lot of
material on that we don't tell you. You're right, we
don't need to do that. We need to find out
about Ricky's fantasy baseball team. We will do that, maybe
(02:21:05):
a possible group bet here on the show. Details on
that coming up shortly, but first we make way for
our great update anchor extraordinary Mr Kevin Figures. Thank you, Brian.
The eight seeds in the NBA are finally set Friday
night at the final two play in games in the West.

halftime deficit to clinch the eight seeds in the East.
They beat Cleveland one oh seven to one oh one.

(02:22:10):
of the season, Toronto defeating Oakland Mets, Nationals, Tigers, Andy
Marlins with victories as well. Back to Brian no Man,
I'll tell you what k fig with Paul George contracting
COVID and not playing on Friday, it's I'm not calling
him out at all. Dudes got COVID, right, But does
(02:22:30):
this incentivize somebody else? Is the playoffs, you know, go on?
If they have symptoms, do they just sort of kinda
keep it to themselves and don't say anything about it? Right? Like,
don't hear what I'm not saying? And I know you aren't.
But for anybody else, I'm not calling Paul George out
for saying I've got some symptoms. I don't know what's
going on here. They test him, he's positive and he's out.
(02:22:51):
But I just wonder write if somebody has some general
light symptoms if they just don't tell anybody about it, right, Well,
I mean we discussed this during the NBA playoffs and
COVID just magically went away for a lot and like
they said, if you were symptomatic, reported and they will
test you. And nobody reported anything because they said mistakes
were way too high. So I guess depending on the
(02:23:12):
side of the finch you fall on, you can loud
Paul George for saying, this is the biggest game of
the season, but I'm not feeling well, so I want
to be honest and let everybody know what the situation is.
So you can certainly credit him for that. But to
your greater point, I would think the great majority of
players are for being completely honest. They got a little sniffle,
they feel a little under the weather, probably just be
uh apt to keep it to themselves unless it's just
(02:23:33):
overwhelming and the team official obviously sees them, you know,
hacking up or whatever it is. If it's something that
is not overwhelmingly overwhelmingly noticeable by everybody else, I think
the great majority of players, to your point, would actually
keep that to themselves. Yeah, and it's it's tough, right
because again, if I was calling them out, I would
make that perfectly clear, like, dude, just keep it to
yourself and play. But I don't have a problem with
(02:23:58):
It's just hard for me to accuris this as a
guy for being honest? Yeah? Right? And also you don't
know how bad as symptoms are. And then also you know,
if this thing is spread around you, you don't know
how other people are going to react to it. Right,
Not everybody's body is the same. So I could understand
why you would want to um get tested and see
(02:24:20):
if you have it, and if you do, then you're
gonna be shut down. Well, we'll see how it unfolds
in the playoffs. But that is the absolute wild card
of the playoffs going forward, because you've got a couple
of Bowls assistant coaches. They're out for Game one because
they've got COVID and Paul George missed the do or
die playing game on Friday. I'm just curious how this
plays out as the playoffs go on. If you're talking
(02:24:42):
conference finals, NBA finals, can you imagine that if the
head coaches out or if the star player is out
and it's one of these do or die Game Seven's
that's an absolute game changer right there. Yeah, to your point,
it's unfortunate the last couple of years we've seen injuries
and COVID just have such an effect on the postseason,
and it's really taken, you know, taking a little bit off.
(02:25:03):
I mean, look at that the Sun's made such a
deep run last year. But not to sound like a hater,
but can we not attribute some of that to the
teams that they faced with major injuries. I mean, the
Clippers pushed them to six games without Kawhi Leonard last year.
I mean, Kawhi learns in that series. I mean, they
probably win if Anthony Davis is healthy. In the first round,
the Lakers probably beat them, if we're being honest. So
it's it's it's been unfortunate that some of the faces
(02:25:25):
of the league, some of the best players, have not
been able to compete and stay healthy at the most
important time of the season. So to your point, I
hope we get that finally behind us now and we
can keep some of these key players healthy. Yeah, I'm
trying to think who else. Well, they swept Denver and
there's Jamal Murray out there. Kevin Petter Jr. I think
was dealing with injury issues and obviously missed most of
(02:25:46):
the season this year, so there was that. So it
was every series, all three series had a star missing
very important player, and the one team that didn't have
a significant injury beat them in the NBA finals. So
there you go. Well, it's important to keep in mind
for the playoffs this season is if they're facing a
(02:26:06):
team at full strength, do they still advance to the finals.
It's a fair question, you know, and we'll get our
answer right now. How about this, k fix? I got
a tweet here from Joe and he just writes, I'm
going to Vegas tomorrow. Do the crew and you have
a few ideas for future bets, throw them at me
and I'll make a couple in the show's honor. Now. Now,
(02:26:30):
I haven't perused the futures market over here, but we
could go on a lot of different directions. Right We
could go with an NFL season win total. We could
go with the NBA playoffs if he's there tomorrow. We
could go with someone to come out of either the
West or the East, or to win the whole thing.
Does anything jump to the forefront of your mind while
we're working our way through this thing here, not immediately,
(02:26:53):
to be honest with you, nothing really jumps out. I
would like to see, like what, maybe what are the
odds of a team, like say, you know, I know
the Celtics were a two seed, but say the Celtics,
even the Heat has a one seed, the odds of
them winning the NBA Finals, And if those are good odds,
that might be a bet I'll be willing to take.
It's not necessarily a futures but I mean it's to
go to the finals this year. Future projecting. Oh that
(02:27:14):
absolutely placed. So which do you want? Do you want
winning it all or getting out of their conference? I
will take the odds will be better for winning it all.
So let's say the odds if I'm playing this game
here and it's not and it's not my money, if
I'm doing the Brian, no bet. Uh give me give
me Boston to win the NBA Finals. How about that?
(02:27:34):
You're going Boston to win everything there at plus eight fifty. Okay,
let's see conference wise, Celtics plus four hundred still pretty
good odds. So you still go swinging for the fences
here winning it all? Yeah, I'm going I'm going bigger,
go home, let's go. Man. That is aggressive by U K.
(02:27:55):
Fig Um. I don't know if we can come to
a consensus, I will go. I'm gonna be a little
aggressive here. I'm gonna say Nets to win the East
there at plus three fifty, I'll take them. I think
they have a legitimate shot right there. Definitely. Yeah, we'll
see how it works out. Now. By the way, I
gotta switch gears to Ricky here for a second. Now
(02:28:17):
I need details. I was randomly paying my sister for
my phone bill. It was the the you know, midway
through the months, so I had to pay, and the
first thing I saw on the feed was you Ricky
paying Roberto from the Ben Mallor show the fantasy baseball fee.
(02:28:38):
So can you disclose the figure here? We're talking like,
you know, quadruple digits? What's the buy in? Uh thousand
dollars minus how many minus like eight nine eight or
something or what what are we talking here? Clo okay, alright, alright,
So it's a nice little twenty five dollar uh pool
(02:29:02):
here or league if you will. Now, do you have
a name for your fantasy baseball team? Yeah? Yeah, So
this year I decided to combine my favorite baseball player,
current baseball player with one of my favorite movies. So
my team name is Kershaw Shank Redemption. Okay, all right,
now are you pretty good? Are you good at fantasy baseball?
(02:29:25):
I would say I'm above average definitely. Um. This is
my first year doing a categories league, really okay, Um,
So basically there's we got fourteen categories E R A, hits,
home runs and stuff, and you go head to head
with someone and uh as it as it is. And appropriately,
(02:29:45):
my first matchup to start the season is against Roberto
and we are it's a nail biter. We're seven seven
right now. Category. You know, I played fantasy baseball one
year a long time him ago, and it was a
lot of fun. But it is a time commitment, all right.
You gotta set your line ups and you know all
(02:30:06):
this stuff, Ricky. But I would what I would do,
and I don't know if it's the same way it's
been so long, but why I would do. I would
load up on closers. I would hit the waiver wire
left and right and I would just be exchanging closers.
I'd have closers going all the time. And it was
great because obviously you get the saves, but you get
some some whip action there, you get the strikeouts they're
(02:30:30):
starting to accumulate, right Like that was one of my
major ways to strategize was use the closers like crazy, Ricky,
Oh yeah, do you do that? Is that like a
common thing now? Definitely? I I've been on that train
the last couple of years ago other leagues I've played
for sure. See, yeah, there's something to that, no doubt
(02:30:50):
about it. All Right, we close it down in style.
Feel free to check in eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox if you hit us up, I'll carve out
some time for you. But I want to it to
what could have been for one of my absolute favorite teams.
And then also, uh doing dirt. If you're going to
(02:31:11):
do it, you gotta be smarter than this league about it.
I'm Brian No keep it locked right here on Fox

No here on Fox Sports Radio. You know, I think
(02:31:34):
it's a good huh, some good bounce back music, Chris,
because I need something a little sullen. Sullen here because uh,
my Miami Dolphins. I don't know if Dolphins, but it's somber.
It fits right, It's it's not upbeat, it's not jovial.
It's a little moody, right like. And as far as
(02:31:56):
my Dolphins go, these reports that are out about the
possibility of Tom Brady, these are credible sources. Mike Florio
at bro Football Talk, Ben Volan, who does a great
job at the Boston Globe, and there are reports that
Tom Brady had his eyes set on the Miami Dolphins
(02:32:18):
and he was gonna be offered a job in the
front office. Potentially he was gonna come out of retirement
to join the Dolphins. And oh, by the way, they
were targeting former Saints head coach Sean Payton to be
the new head coach with the Dolphins. But the story is,
and I don't know if this is true or not,
but it might have something to do with the Brian
(02:32:40):
Flores lawsuits suing the NFL over racial discrimination. And the
thought is this put a real wrench into the plans
of maybe Brady, Sean Payton, Dolphins all of that, because
the thought is if the NFL does an investigation all
of us, and they start looking at Brady's text messages
(02:33:03):
potentially and like, wait a minute, how did it work
out where you came out of retirement and the planets aligned?
Where Sean Payton, Hey, did you guys have a conversation
about this before minority candidates were interviewed? And right, like
so I could understand it at least makes sense where
it's possible that Brady said, WHOA a little too hot?
(02:33:24):
Right here? Little too hot, let's exit exit stage right.
But just think of it from a Dolphins fan perspective,
that would be me. You're hearing names like Sean Payton
head coach, okay, Tom Brady quarterback okay, and instead, no,
(02:33:45):
that not gonna be the case. Roll with Mike McDaniel
into a tongue of viola doesn't have the same ring
to it, does not have the same ring to it.
So it's just one of those painful stories. We're talking about,
painful memories of the Detroit Lyons. The Dolphins haven't been
as bad, but it's been painful too. Has been painful too.
(02:34:06):
Instead of Drew Brees, let's go with Dante Culpepper. That
didn't work out instead of Justin Herbert, let's go with
toa that hasn't worked out, And instead of Sean Payton
and Tom Brady, Mike McDaniel and ta waiting for some
good news, waiting for some good news. I got some
good news right now because Cowboy is with us. It's
(02:34:28):
do a little Cowboys corner. Welcome into Fox Sports Radio,
Cowboy Well, Good morning, Brian Bryant, and happy Eastern pass
Over to everybody. And happy seventy six birthday, say birthday,
do a Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who was born in April
sixties seven uh, the day after Jackie Robinson became the
(02:34:50):
first black Major League Baseball players eight four and also
a happy Sunday ninth birthday, do uh uh. Dr James
are Lomberg, who, of course was pitcher Jim Lamberg, the
nineteen sixty seven American League Cyan Award winner and yesterday,
(02:35:13):
well tomorrow, Gordon bamp AND's Canadian country singer will be
forty six. He was born the same day that the
Phillies Mike Schmidt hit four homers and drove and eight
runs in a game against the Cubs in which the
Phillies rallied from twelve to one deficit to beat the
Cups eighteen to sixteen and ten innings. And a year
(02:35:36):
ago Tuesday, I had my stroke. It took me about
three and a half weeks three cover. I was in
hospital for a week and two and a half weeks
of intensive physical therapy. And also yesterday, uh forty sixty
four years ago, yesterday's the Mets in Houston Astros played
(02:35:58):
a one to nothing twenty four inning game which the
Astros won when White was one, an excellent second baseman
made an error and the White was eighty four. Two
weeks ago today And anyway, everybody, as I said, have
a great day, Eastern Passover, and remember you can't be
(02:36:20):
a cowboy without being a boy. Were good stuff, cowboy,
Happy Easter to YouTube. Wow man, the nightmare and horror
story of a one nothing twenty twenty four inning game.
Holy hell Yeah. I heard a great suggestion. Some people
don't like the automatic runner at second base. And the
(02:36:43):
suggestion was you do that after like once you head
into the twelfth inning, right, so you'd play the tenth
inning and the eleventh inning like like normal, no automatic runner,
and if there's no scoring, well then you do the
automatic runner starting with the twelfth inning. That that makes
some sense to me, you know. Um, but the automatic runner,
(02:37:05):
that's still I'm still scratching my head where they're like, yeah,
that's the thing in the past, we're not doing that anymore.
And then after the c b A was agreed to,
it's like, oh, but just for this year, we're gonna
run it back. That was the goofiest thing ever. I
don't love the automatic runner at second. I'd be lying
to you if I said it didn't create a little
(02:37:25):
bit of drama, because it does. But it just it
feels goofy, It feels weird. I like the idea, if
you're gonna do it, do it in the twelfth you know,
let's play regular baseball for a couple of innings and
if no score, then do it. By the way, I
was mentioning, be careful who you do dirt with. You
might have heard this story earlier in the week. I
(02:37:45):
won't spend a whole lot of time on it. The
Washington commanders this ticket practice that is under the microscope
right now, so I'm not gonna go knee deep in
the details. Basically, Congress is accusing the commanders of stealing
season ticket deposits from fans, like this money should be
going back to the fans, and Washington's like, askerew that,
(02:38:08):
how about it just goes in our pockets? And um,
they're allegedly using two different books so they can hide
this revenue. And that's the whole thing, man. But the
thing that's interesting to me is when the Washington now
commanders was being investigated for accusations of sexual misconduct, hostile
(02:38:31):
work environment, gender discrimination, they were told about this ticket
practice two years ago. They were told about it, and
they hit the details. So when the the verbal report
was delivered, because that's what they said, they're like, don't
don't write anything down, you know when you're investigating us.
(02:38:52):
Beth Wilkinson, an attorney, like, just just tell us everything.
And so Congress was like that's not good enough. We
want you to release all the documents, all the communication
the NFL and Dan Snyder said no, and so Congress
started looking deeper into this, and now they're looking at
this ticket fiasco. Boils down to this, be careful who
you're doing dirt with. Why would you, if you're the NFL,
(02:39:14):
be covering for Dan Snyder. He's proven time and time again,
he's gonna make you look horrible, And yet here they are.
You ever see the movie Goodfellas. You don't want to
do dirt with the guy who buys the pink Cadillac
like Johnny rose Beef and draws unnecessary attention, right, get
rid of the people that are bad to do dirt with.
(02:39:34):
That's what the NFL should do with Dan Snyder. But
they're not all right. Good stuff today. By the way,
did you hear about the Tom Brady football, the last
touchdown football? It initially sold at auction for over five
hundred thousand dollars. It's been void because it's not his
final touchdown throw. I would be bad if that was
the guy that got all that cash. Hey, have a
(02:39:55):
good morning. We'll catch you later.
