Speaker 1 (00:01):
You don't listening to sports. Oh what's going on? Everybody?
Hope you're enjoying your Saturday evening. That's right, Don Brown.
Let the DJ airhorn Blair, loud and proud. We got action,
as you say, big man, not at that ninety two apiece.
The Utah Jazz somehow down two games to one, and
(00:21):
this is the first game that Luca don Che has
played in the series and they are trying to even
the series. Otherwise it is probably a t k O. Right.
Do you think the Jazz will get it done here,
big man? I think coming down to the stretch they will,
you know, a little bit of home cooking coming down
(00:44):
the stretch, but that you know, I haven't been impressed
with with the way they've been playing. I haven't, you know.
And they live and die by the three during the
regular season. It's been like that for years. Um. But
they're in ability to stop the other team from driving
(01:04):
and kicking is killing them. I mean, it's it's something
that you know, they put a lot of onness on
Rudy Gobert to protect the paint and protect the rim,
and you know the best way to do that, to
defend that offensively is to have him guarding someone out
(01:27):
on the wings. So when he steps to help down
like a big man normally does, that's what he's trained
to protect that area. They just kick it to this
man and this man hits the three like that's been
the undoing of them the previous to two games. You know,
so hopefully and that in the last two minutes, two
(01:48):
and a half minutes they figure that out. But I
just need Rudy to play stronger. Yeah, right, And this
is look, I'm not making excuses for the guy. He's
just he's not used to guarding the perimeter. But you
gotta adapt. You've got to adapt or you can't be
out there. That's just the reality here. And uh, it's
(02:11):
a joke that Utah is down to one where look,
man Dallas got hot from game two from three, they
hit twenty two of them. Okay, I mean sometimes teams
do get hot. The Jazz should have done a better
job guarding the perimeter. But okay, you chalked that one
up and say they were hot from three. But game
three at home still no Luca and you still lose.
(02:34):
And by the way, Jalen Brunson, going back to game two,
who's had a good season, but forty one points with
no Luca. You cannot allow Jalen Brunson to ever go
off for forty one points, especially when Luca isn't out there.
So not a whole lot of excuses for the Jazz
here being down to the their their their transition defense
(02:54):
has been slow, their half court defense has been slow,
and like I said, they put a lot of onus
on Rudy Gobert to protect the paint, but it's up
to the wings to find and make it difficult, uh
for the offense to drive the ball. You gotta be
able to stay in front of the ball, and they
haven't been able to do that, and they just send
(03:15):
him right in the Rudy he steps up to help
to kick it out. This is what's happening over and
over again. Yeah. I like the point. Kenny Smith made
this point a couple of nights ago where he was
saying the rim isn't the rim right now for Rudy Gobert,
meaning he's a rim protector, he's got to think of
the three point line being the new rim, Like that's
(03:38):
what you're protecting. And that's the truth. When Dallas, when
they go small and just spread you out like that
and they're just raining threes. You know, Gobert standing underneath
the basket. It's not gonna work. Guys like Dorry and
Phinney Smith are gonna be racking up threes left and right.
So I mean, you have to adapt it. You can't
be out there. It's the bottom line for Rudy Gobert.
(04:00):
You know. The good thing about this for for the
Dallas is you know, Lucas come back, uh and you
know he's moving well on that that calf, which you
know we didn't know, you know, was it gonna be
a you know, a calf thing or does it go
down into the achilles. We've heard strain calf before and
we saw somebody poor the achilles when they came back.
(04:22):
So you know, it's good to see him out there
and moving around it is. And he's looked good today. Yeah. Yeah,
he's he's, he's, he's you know, he's doing this thing.
Lucas played well. If you just look at his statuet again,
missing the first three games of the series with that
calf injury, and he comes back, He's scored twenty five points,
(04:42):
ten boards, four assists. Me'll take that. He banged three threes.
Not completely efficient, but you'll take at nine of nineteen
from the field. That's a good that's a good stretch.
It's a good stretch for for someone who's been uh
out three games, you know, and it's been sidelined since
the last regular season game, so he hasn't been on
(05:05):
the court for a while. Yeah, this is good, this
is good. This is good for him. And you know,
what's always interesting to me about the playoffs is just
how much is on the line. Like, look at Utah.
If Utah wins this game, they're right back in the series.
They have a legitimate chance to win it, and then
(05:26):
who knows where it goes from there in the playoffs.
But if they lose this game and they're down three one,
you're looking at the very real possibility where they completely
change the roster or they might break up. You know,
Rudy Gobert is elsewhere right Like, that's what's on the
line in these final two minutes. I'm just fascinated by that.
(05:46):
It's and you you hit on a good point because
on the surface, it's like, you know, they got a
good team, they got some all stars, um, but the
reality of it is if they can't do it this
year with this group. This group will no longer look
the same next year. Yeah, it can't because now you
(06:08):
just what is it a definition of insanity? Right, doing
the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
That's what It would be insane for them to continue
to try and and climb this mountain to a championship
with the very same pieces that cannot get it done
for the last three years. Yeah, and you saw that
(06:30):
with Portland's right, with Damon c J. It got to
a point where they're like, you know, we just gotta
move on. We gotta go in a different direction because
we're not getting as far as we want to get.
Be interesting to see what the Celtics, I mean, you
don't hear that nearly as much. At the midway point
during the season, there was a lot of you gotta
break up Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. I mean, they're
(06:51):
they're very similar players. I'm not hearing a whole lot
of that right now, but if they lose in the
playoffs early on, then you're gonna hear a lot more
of that chatter. So yeah, and in terms of the Celtics,
you know, Jalen Brown has kind of taken a step back.
He realizes that Jayson Tatum is that guy. Yeah, he's
he's he's he's the one, and so he's allowed himself
(07:13):
to play off of the one opposed to being the one.
And and it's helped with their chemistry. Yeah, it really has. Boston.
They turned their season completely around. They were just a
middling five hundred team throughout the first half of the season.
This wasn't like the first ten fifteen games in the
(07:34):
first half of the season. And they just kicked it
into gear in two man and now they have a
two nothing lead. Yeah, their defense on k D in particular,
just their defense, and I mean they have the first
guard since nineties six, right since going into my junior
year in college, has has a guard one the defensive
(07:59):
Player of the Year award. And you can see it,
Yeah you can. Marcus Smart is guarding uh Kyrie Irving
one on one. Yeah, in the middle of the court.
And and that's a plus. And they're running the double
team at k D. And look, they'll let Bruce Brown,
They'll let him go off. He started that game on fire.
(08:20):
They that's okay, you call a time out, and he'd
be like keep doing what you're doing. Yeah, Bruce is
gonna cool loss. If Bruce scores fifty, we still win
the game. If Bruce s corps fifty and we contain
the other two guys, we still win the game. That's
just the bottom line of it. Yeah, they have the
first two games. The Celtics defense on k D has
(08:42):
been tremendous. For Katie to be oh for ten from
the field in the second half of Game two, and
that sounds like a stat amongst another stat among another stat, right,
but over ten from the field in the second half
of a very important game, they have just been swarming.
They've may life miserable for k D and it'll be
(09:02):
interesting to see you go back home in Game three.
It all seems like just utter doom and gloom for
the Nets, but the Celtics needed a buzzer beater to
win Game one. And really all the Nets have done
is loose two close road games. It's not like the
Heavens are crashing in just yet. But man, they gotta
win this game. The reason why there's panic is because
(09:25):
the way in which they're losing. Right in that first game,
they were up by eight, seven or eight with about
three minutes to go and end up losing that game.
And in the second game, the constant defense on on
their two stars and Durant and Kyrie was relentings. It's
(09:51):
not getting easier. So you know, I believe the Celtics
get Williams back. They're they're big. Their backup bags have
been playing outstanding. Now they get a real upgrade. Uh,
someone who can step out and guard and it and
and facilitate down low. I mean it's only getting harder
for him. Yeah, it is. With Robert Williams coming back.
(10:14):
You know, we'll get to Ben Simmons the news about
him probably playing in Game four. But you know, Robert
Williams isn't nearly as big of a name as Ben Simmons.
He could make twice the impact with him being that.
You're absolutely right, but most people like, who's Robert Williams?
Like what, who's that guy? Well, you'll see And by
the way, don chit with the step back three for
(10:36):
the MAVs to go up four in the final minute
and utah, bro, they're staring three one right in the face,
that being the series deficit for them, and they're gonna
have to if they lose the series let's say it's
a gentleman sweep. That could very well be the case.
You're talking about major changes that from from coaching, from
(10:58):
coaching as well, from coaching as well, that's not I mean,
you can you get You can only get so many
chances getting the team to a certain point. We saw
it in Toronto, right. Uh. He was the coach of
the year. Yeah, he was the number one He was
(11:20):
a coach of the year, the number one seed, and
they lost in the first round of the playoffs and
he got fired. Yeah. Yeah, they ran into Lebron routin
every year Lebron and they just couldn't get over them
Nick Nurse, and they got this guy. Now they got
(11:40):
statues and stuff out there. Yeah, it's crazy, but that's
a very good comparison because Toronto had a lot of
regular season success with the Marta Rosen Kyle Lowry doing
their thing over there, and they could go nowhere in
the playoffs and they said, look, it's not like Dwayne
Casey is a bad coach, but we got it. Shift
stuff around. We got to move it around because we're
(12:03):
not getting where we want to get. A big and
one opportunity for Donovan Mitchell that was huge. And the
funny thing is Robert was there for the rebound. Donovan
Mitchell just took it from him like I got it,
I got it. We don't need you get into rebound
fumbling with the ball, trying to go up like I
just get out of there. You see Rudy backed away
from it, like, get back up, I got it. Yeah,
(12:24):
I'll take the and one and make the shot and
then make make the free throw to bring the game
within one. Yeah, you just hanging back, buddy. A probable
three point play is probably better than you airballing the
first free throw and maybe we luck out and you
split and we get one point in that trip. Yeah,
that's huge, and actually it's a two for one opportunity. Yes,
(12:45):
it is Dallas with the ball with thirty seconds left. Yeah,
we can see if there's uh, if there isn't a
time out here, if they can get a stop and
a score, it should be monstrous, monstrous for the Utah
track us does everything hanging in the balance for that franchise.
Oh man at nice feed by Don Chitch and Dwight
(13:08):
Powell gets fouled and uh, well he'll step to the
free throw line with under twenty seconds to go. We
got action. We're often running. We're brought to you by
one of our favorite cities, Las Vegas, the greatest arena
on Earth. Plan your trip today at visit Las Vegas
dot com. All right, we'll have some thoughts on the
conclusion of game four here. It's possible we're in overtime
(13:30):
in the next couple of minutes. Also, injuries man left
and right in the NBA playoffs, there are two players
with much different reactions to some injuries that happened recently.
We'll give you some details on that. Right around the corner.

Very much looking forward to the draft. How about this
big man the Utah Jazz. They pulled it out. They
(15:44):
were down by four in the final minute after a
Luca step back. Three look to be curtains for them,
But you got the big and one. You got that
from from Donovan Mitchell and then you gotta stop and
then an alley oop from Donovan Mitchell to Rudy Gobert.
(16:05):
How about that. All the talk about these two don't
get along, they're not incredibly fond of each other, those
are the two who link up for what turned out
to be the winning bucket. Yeah, I mean you're in
good hands there, a little preremptive All State. Uh but uh,
that was you know, Dallas settled right there. They didn't
(16:29):
have anything going to the basket, going to the rim,
and you're in a one point game. You I mean,
that's not what you want. That's not the shot you want.
You got eleven seconds ago and that's the that's the
best shot you got. Yeah. Yeah, I thought the same
thing as you right where. I think that Luca's gotta
(16:50):
force the action earlier because you have to anticipate the
double team is on its way, right, So if you
wait around to six or five seconds and then you
start to make your move as you're doubled and you
start to swing it. Well, that's the shot you end
up with with din Witty jacking up a three when
down one. You know, I think you just go faster. Yeah,
(17:13):
it just I don't. I don't know, man. It just
we get so used to the spectacular threes and and
and all of those things. It just you gotta play basketball, right,
You gotta drive in there, you gotta You see what
Donovan Mitchell did. He went to the basket, missed, got
(17:35):
his rebound, then got an m one. That's you have
to attack like that. You're letting the team off the hook,
right uh bye by shooting up a foter. Yeah, and
think about it too, because that's a good way to
break it down. Utah was down by one and Mitchell
(17:56):
hooked up with Rudy for the alley ooop to give
him the lead. They're still any of time left, right.
They didn't wait till the last second. They could have.
They could have held it for a buzzer beater opportunity,
that type of thing where Dallas wouldn't have gotten a
crack at it. But they went early. They obviously got
a very high percentage look and Rudy he doesn't miss
(18:16):
too many alleyoop attempts, right, so they take the one
point lead. Dallas waits and waits a little bit. Luca
makes his move with about six seconds to go. I
just think you gotta go earlier, like you are playing
into Utah's hands. They're gonna force the ball out of
your hands and then you're gonna get a shot you
don't really want. At the buzzer, I didn't like that
(18:37):
by you tub by Dallas at all. I think you
just gotta go earlier than they did. No, now it's um,
it's it's a series. Now. Yeah, we're knotted up at two.
All right, at one point wins count. How crazy is that?
Dallas is two and one without Luca in the series
and there oh when one with him? Welcome to the playoffs,
(19:03):
right like craziness ensuing? Now we also have this big man.
We've got Philadelphia. The Sixers lost today. The Raptors they
they stay alive. We got a dust off. The saying right,
stave off elimination, the best phrase in sports. They stave
it off for the moment. Uh. Philly still has a
(19:24):
three one series lead. But the news right now is
Joel Embiid's thumb injury. So he says he'll get an
m r ry on Sunday and if the thumb requires surgery,
he's just gonna wait until the end of the season
to have it. He's just gonna play right through it.
So here's Joel and some of his thoughts about his
thumb injury and the loss today when he comes to
(19:46):
rebonding um also passing, um um um. I don't know
how to explaining, but uh, you know is whatever, But
the bigger stories, uh that we lost the game. We
wanted able to close it out and we gotta do
a balance job. Yeah. Man, it's on his right hand right,
(20:09):
it's his shooting thumb, and he could have a torn
ligament in that thumb. Whatever he has, it could require surgery,
and he's just gonna wait. He's gonna put it off. Now.
I'll ask you this, big man, if Ben Simmons had
the exact same injury, are you confident that he would
be out there playing through it. No, I'm not confident
(20:31):
Ben Simmons is gonna be out there playing at any time.
I just don't know. Um. Look, either you want to play,
you don't. That's what it boils down to. Either you
want to play or you don't. I mean, you've had
guys fighting to get on the court or play through injury.
Like there's a different mentality, especially when it comes to
(20:54):
playoff basketball, but just in pro sports period, there's a
is a fine line. You know, the guys who will
answer the bell. Kobe Bryant answered the bell. Allen Iverson
answered the bell, right, These guys who had bumps and
bruised all of these things, they Kevin Garnett answered the bell.
(21:20):
So there's a fine line there. Either you want to
play or you don't. All this speculation, maybe he would
come back and hey, bro, look him or his teammates
don't have time for it because they're doing what they're
supposed to do. A major story for over a year. Ye,
(21:40):
major story for Phil and we're doing two stories at once.
But I mean, and Bead was off today. He said
he was a little under the weather as well, but
you could tell he didn't have any energy. It just
it looked completely Watching that game, I was like, oh,
they don't even want to be out there. Yeah, yeah,
he just didn't. He didn't have it today. I don't
know if it was more so the thumb injury or
(22:02):
sickness or what. But he did not have it today,
and look what if he does. If he's got a
torn ligament in his thumb, that's a huge deal for
the Eastern Conference playoffs. They're gonna get by Toronto, we
know that. But as they go forward, what if they're
matched up against the Bucks. You know what if they
run into um, some of these other tough teams in
(22:26):
the East, that's a huge, huge deal with that dumb
injury for him beat The best thing that could have
happened for him and his thumb was to close out
the series to get rest. Yeah, that's the best thing
that could happen. Yeah, and they lost out on that, right.
I mean, when when you when it boils down to it,
(22:47):
do you want to get done with your series as
fast as possible, the fastest way possible in a seven
game series, just to win four games. They were up
three zero. They had an opportunity to beat the less
talented team and have some time off, so you could
whatever you needed to do for the thumb, you can
(23:08):
address it and not worry about you know, we got
a game in a day, uh, you know, day after tomorrow,
so we'll we'll see what you know the m R
I and what it says about his thumb. But that's
when you needed Tobias Harris to step up. That's when
(23:29):
you needed James Harden to have forty, right, Maxie to
have thirty. That's where you need Batistel to be fully vaccinated.
Danny Green, right, right, But but Danny Green showed us
the Danny Green we saw in the bubble right for
the Lakers. Yeah, right, two for ten, two for seven
(23:51):
from three, throwing an airball here, Danny Green runs like
he doesn't have a lower lumbar in his back or
he's constipated. That's that's how he looks like they're out
there on the court. He runs like he's in serious backpen.
I don't know what either that right, He's he's blocked up.
He said some metal mucile, let's get some. But I
(24:14):
say that to say, when you're when your workhorse, when
your guy is either under the weather or has an
injury or something like that, then you have to, you know,
pull everybody together. And they got you gotta play out.
Where was the MAXI game? Where thirty eight? Where was that?
(24:37):
Where's James Harden? It's going forward like there's no sense
of it was no sense of urgency from anybody out there.
And that's Doc Rivers fat for not getting ready to go.
You know what, that's one of the blessings that we
have on this show. We never ever have to worry
about a lack of urgency from the backbone of our operation.
(24:58):
You know, he is Mr Urgency, he is Mr Friend
of America. He is the one and only Mr Steve
Disager with a sports update. That's you're gonna say, Stephen,
you you for urgency. We have programming notes you mentioned.
The NFL Draft starts to Thursday night in Vegas. Full
(25:19):
coverage here on Fox Sports Radio. The USFL is on
FS one tonight Houston at Birmingham. That will be on
FS one as soon as this final inning of the
afternoon ball game finishes up on FS one to the
ninth at Minnesota, Twins are leading nine too over the
White Sox. That game from the U s FL is
already underway, and quickly it's Birmingham seven three leaders against
(25:42):
the Houston Gamblers in the opening minutes. It's on FS
two for now and then we'll switch over. St. Louis
Cardinals got a five nothing win at Cincinnati boy, they're
playing a truly awful team in the Reds this weekend.
Paul gold Schmidt, with two hits to r b I
s has the average over two hundred. In the early season,
the Reds as a team three for twenty six at
(26:02):
the plate. They've lost eleven games in a row. The
Reds are two and thirteen and counting this season. Meanwhile,
the Rockies in the is a Slayer song. I just
I didn't want to miss that opportunity right there. Yeah, yeah,
Eve From and I both very familiar with that show.
Find Intervention, check out that album. We we're talking about that.
(26:23):
The Rockies in the second of a double header are
leading Get Detroit three nothing at the top of the fourth.
The big news came in the opener of the double header. Yes,
Detroit won the game thirteen nothing over Colorado. Miguel Cabrera
in that game with career hit number three thousand. Only
seven players all time have three thousand hits and five
hundred home runs. At Wrigley Field, Chicago, the Cubs were
(26:45):
winners over Pittsburgh twenty one to nothing. They made every
extra point. Yankees beat the Cleveland Guardians five to four
in San Francisco one again five to at Washington. Nowt
of the NBA, We've got two more games still to
come and still a few minute still tip at Brooklyn
with the Boston Celtics pt two games to none and
playing the Nets. Nets guard Ben Simmons reportedly will make
(27:06):
his season debut on Monday at home, and Yes, center
Robert Williams of Boston is due to play limited minutes
to night he at knee surgery less than a month ago.
The late game ten PM Eastern two seed in the West,
Memphis at Minnesota. Grizzlies lead the series two games to one.
Utah's even two games apiece after somehow edging Dallas with
a late comeback one to ninety nine. Donovan Mitchell twenty
(27:29):
three points. Luca don Sitch with the strain calf returned
and scored thirty. Toronto up well down three games to
one now as Philadelphia fell one ten one oh two.
Joel Embiid with the thumb injury, did play twenty one
points as you say, thinks he can continue to play
through the postseason. Toronto's Fred van Leet left with the
strain hip, Scotty Barnes with the ankle injury, did play
(27:51):
some had eleven rebounds one of six shooting again Toronto,
Still alive, Toronto. Scottie Barnes did win Rookie of the
Year award today, get forty eight first place votes to
forty three for Evan Mobley of Cleveland. Barnes one with
the smallest margin of victory in balloting under the current
voting format, which started about twenty years ago. Barnes was
drafted number four overall last summer after playing one season
(28:14):
at Florida State. Mobley was drafted number three overall. The
guy who was the number one overall draft choice, Kate
Cunningham of Detroit, finished a distant third in the Rookie
of the Year voting. Previous Rookies of the Year were
LaMelo Ball, John Morand, and Luca Don said you again.
Returned to his series after missing the first three games.
Did not get an assist on that final shot. Missed.
(28:36):
Utah beat Dallas one hundred tone. Don't forget Nascar on
Fox TV tomorrow from Talladega, three pm Eastern Time. Back
to you, Thank you, Steve Bryan, noany from salam with
you here on Fox Sports Radio. Pretty crazy, Like Steve mentioned,
Kate Cunningham number one overall, Evan Mobley Mobile number three overall,
and Scotty Barnes the Rookie of the Year fourth overall,
(28:57):
the number two overall pick Jalen Green with Houston who
it was pretty good. Those are four pretty pretty solid
draft picks. Top of the draft right there. Yeah. Absolutely,
it is outstanding potential for all of it. Yeah, because
when Steve was mentioning number one, number three, number four overall,
(29:21):
I'm like, is I couldn't remember off the top of
my head who went to And I'm like, is this
a Darko Milic type thing, is it? No, it's Jalen Green?
Like yeah, no, he can play. Yeah, he was pretty good.
He can play. That. Wasn't that a bad pick? What's that? Darko? Oh? Man,
(29:42):
do you have Carmelo, Anthony d Wade and Bosh And
they said no, no, no, no, we want Look, man,
that's one of the worst picks of all times. Oh
my gosh, that was awful. Think about that Detroit and
(30:04):
they had it cranked at that time. If they would
have got Carmelo, oh my gosh, his scoring had that
defense or d Wade or even Bosch, like go with
Bosh you guys would have been a force for a
long time and that it didn't work. Joe Dumars did
(30:27):
a lot of things, well that was that not one
of them. That was not it. By the way, big man,
I'm curious which would drive you crazier? You know, put
the helmet back on right? The player mentality. Let's say
that you're either in the locker room as a football player,
in this case a basketball player, which would drive you crazier.
Would it be a teammate not gutting through an injury
(30:49):
where you like this dude still isn't back still? Or
would it be a player that isn't fully dedicated. We
talked about James Harden being out of shape at to
get it, it would be that that would drive you crazy.
You don't even have to finish. Because everybody handles injuries different.
I get that, if there's something wrong, I get it.
(31:09):
I can't expect everybody to start fourteen games with two
broken hands, right, Like, that's absurd to do, and everybody's
threshold for pain is completely different. But someone who who's
not giving the effort, who's not showing up ready to go,
(31:31):
that that we can't have because there's no If the
guy who's hurt is healthy, we know he's given it all.
The guy who's healthy who's not giving it all, you
can't win like that, right, that makes sense. I could
(31:52):
see it almost be like, uh, the guy with too
healthy hands just saying now, I just don't feel like
working out today, right, Like that's the lack of being
fully dedicated. Yeah, I could see how that would drive.
It would because I know in my career, I you know,
I played with a lot of injuries, probably something I
(32:13):
shouldn't have, something that are still affecting me as I'm
sitting here talking to you now. That would have benefited
me healthwise for the long haul. If I would have
missed the last five games of the season. Is that
why you can't slide when your bowl That is one
of the reasons one of the after I tore my
(32:35):
meniscus and I started the last five games of the
year and the terror became a rip. That's back when
we're playing on real astro turf. That's why your bowling
air force one. That's why I can right, you know,
So that that's just that's just that those are just
(32:58):
certain things that you know. But when when I was
in it and I was in it. I was tapped in.
I'm like, look, the team needs me. I was a
firm believer that the team needed me, and so I
drunk the kool aid and I was all in like
a lot of like a lot of my peers and contemporaries.
That's just what it was. That was the culture. Coach
(33:18):
is a little bit different now, Yeah, then the coach
is really different in basketball. Guaranteed, money makes you do
all kinds of things. Are not do all kinds of things.
Did it get under your skin a little bit where
you're like, man, this dude is still not back. It
could have been a serious injury, but still still not back. No,
Because I'm like, everybody is different. Everybody, everybody is different.
(33:40):
Like you've seen, somebody likes to expect people are a
player in football to come back from an a c
l nine months like um um um, Adrian Peterson, it's
unreal listic, right right. He did something and then he
(34:03):
came back and for over two thousand year like he did.
That's unheard of. But what he did was he changed
the time frame that people expected athletes to come back
from an a c L M. He changed the time
it used to be a year in nine months, he
(34:26):
was ready to go, and he led the league in
rushing and almost broke the single season all time rushing record,
and after coming off like, those are the types of
things that people were like, Oh, okay, wait a minute.
You know, so everybody is different when it comes to injury.
You have to respect their process. Now you may be like,
(34:49):
you know, I would have came back earlier, but that's
you know, that's just you again, right, Yeah, that didn't
drive you as crazy? I get it. No interesting, Hey,
top of the hour, we'll get to the NFL. We
got some amah where a stud player might end up
right around the corner. Well, this guy make any difference?
And also how big of a difference does he need
(35:11):
to make? That's on the way. I'm Brian No, he'sy
from salam Keep it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Brian No, he's he from Salam. Here on Fox
Sports Radio. We're underway in Brooklyn. Nets have an early
nine to five lead, and we're not expecting to see
(35:31):
Ben Simmons in today's game. He is I in Game four,
though I in Game four return. Yeah from the comic man,
it's comical. You're just over this. Huh yeah, I can't.
You know, your team's out here fighting. Man finds still alive.
They lose, this game is over. We know that. Everybody
(35:53):
knows that. I don't understand the major difference between giving
it a go today and giving it a go in
game four. No one has had more rest between games
than the Brooklyn Nets and the Celtics in this series.
Think about that, everybody's been playing every other day. This
(36:18):
is only game three for them. This has been a week, right, yeah,
and we're still waiting for Ben simmons arrival. It's been
a week. So it's like, you know, I think they
played on one day started to started series. It was
(36:40):
it Saturday or was it a Sunday? Uh? Man, I can't.
I'd have to go back and look. Let me go
back and look. Yeah, but think about this. Game three
is right now, Game four is Monday night. How how
is that making a huge difference? With Ben Simmons back
(37:01):
injury and when he's playing, Like, how is tonight pushing
it too much? But man, these extra two days, that's
the magical window where he can come back after almost
a calendar year half. Because now I think they're just
play kating. They're they're giving us a carrot and then
we'll get there. We've we've heard this before. Oh he's
(37:24):
not ready yet. He's not he's not ready yet. You're
you know what I mean? Like, it's like, okay, what
are we doing? Yeah, they just sit him out. I
think of it like this. We might differ on this,
but initially I think, hey, look, it's a big name,
he's a former number one overall pick. But it's gonna
(37:44):
be a small impact. I still believe that he's only
expected to play ten fifteen minutes something like that, defend,
get some rebounds. And then I stopped and I thought,
you know, he doesn't have to make a monstrous impact
for it to make a difference. If you think about
the first couple of games, these have been very tight games.
(38:05):
Game one, it was a buzzer beater, one stop, one
block rebound here. Yeah, Like, I think even a minimal
impact could be the difference that could be enough to
push Brooklyn over the top into a contribute to winning
a game. Do you see it the same way we are.
He can mess up the chemistry because they haven't had
(38:26):
time to play together. You're right, it could work the
other way too, so that there's something we you got
to really look at as well. He hasn't played with
any of these guys on any level, right, so you know,
I just um, yeah, they started Sunday, play Wednesday, and
(38:49):
now game three is Saturday. Yeah. I mean when you
look at you know, what's um Toronto and we had
an opportunity to end their series today and we're only
on game like it's kind of wild. Yeah yeah, okay,
(39:20):
So it boils down to this, I don't know what's
going on. Do you think if we see Ben Simmons
in game four, do you think after the game you'll say, man,
he kind of messed up the chemistry. He didn't get
into a flow. It actually hurt the Nets more than
it helped. Or do you think it's gonna be opposite
where you say, it's only fifteen minutes, but there are
a couple of possessions, good defense, you had that nice assist,
(39:43):
you had that one key rebound. Do you think it's
gonna be more positive or negative for the Nets? If
he gets out there, it'll be positive because because they can,
they can make it positive just having him out there.
You know, Yeah, I think it's all about his role.
If he's going in there and it's like, man, we
need ten points from you Ben Simmons. I don't know
(40:04):
that's gonna happen. But if it's play good defense, get
some rebounds, just to make plays like he can do that,
he's not expected to be a score I think it's
gonna be a good thing for them. Yeah. I wouldn't
hold my breath though. I'm just not sold. Man, he's
shown an unwillingness to play. That's the bottom line. He's
(40:25):
shown a lack of effort to want to be a
part of any team, whether it be Philly or here.
I I just I don't know what to say. Yeah, alright,
coming up next, where will this stud player who wants
out potentially end up? That's on the way? Ah, yes,
(40:46):
what's going on? I hope you're enjoying your Saturday evening.
The Nets and the Celtics going back and forth. It's
early in the game, only midway through the first quarter.
But Brooklyn has a one point lead, so uh, some
must win for Brooklyn. There's no doubt about that. You
gotta get a game. Can't go down oh three? How
about that? Nobody has ever came back from that deficit.
(41:07):
Ever you think that will happen, big man, You think
we're ever going to see that in the NBA someone
coming back from a three oh deficit? Anything possible? Yeah,
but highly unlikely. Yeah. If a team can go up
three oh, then they have things squirrelly and and and
winning four straight games in any playoff series, like coming
(41:29):
back and winning four straight games, that's tough to do. Yeah,
I don't remember the exact number. It's something like the
team that is down oh three in a seven game
series best of seven game series. I think they're oh
in one all time somewhere in that vista. It's like,
oh and like one four or something something along those lines. Yeah,
(41:54):
but the thing is they're they're playing sound basketball right there.
They're beating Brooklyn and and and sometimes you can get
you you can get mesmerized by a blowout win in
the playoffs, right, Those things happen. But if you can
(42:15):
continue to play tight games and win close games, that
means more than the blowout because some days you're just
off any other teams on It happens. Um. You know,
in history of the playoffs, you've seen teams get blown out,
beat by twenty and come back and win and win
the series. The fact that Boston is is playing as
(42:39):
well as they're playing head to head with Brooklyn. M
I mean that's gotta be unnerving for I guess to
coach Steve Nash, I could see it that way. Um,
I hear what you're saying for sure, it's just you
hear this. Also, I don't complately buy in, but there's
(43:00):
some truth to it where a series doesn't start until
a home team has lost the game. The reason I
don't fully buy into it is like it would take
Brooklyn losing today for the series to officially start. That
doesn't make sense. But yeah, so it doesn't make false sense,
but it does make some where it's basically saying, let's
(43:23):
not overreact to a home team holding Serve and winning
the first couple of games of a series. That makes
false sense to me. And so I think with Brooklyn
losing the first two games, I think it's because they
just have such star power with k D and Kyrie Irving,
and of course the game one storyline where the fans
are getting on k D, Katie's flipping birds back at them,
(43:46):
there's a buzzer beater. It just seems to be this
bigger reaction of like, oh, the nuts are down to
oh because of all those things previously mentioned, where if
you really take a step back and you think Boston
on two games at home and one of those games
was a buzzer beater, like this isn't the end of
the world just yet. No, it's not. It's it's not.
(44:07):
I mean, they did what they were supposed to do, right.
The guides in the playoffs are win at home, get
it to seven games, anything can happen. That that's what
every single Those are the parameters for the postseason. Win
at home, get to game seven, anything can happen. And
(44:33):
so the Brooklyn that's they're still under those parameters. Boston,
they did what they were supposed to do. Now Boston
is now the narrative is that we gotta steal. If
we can steal this game, the series is over. Yeah,
you know. And that's the thing is we look at
this too much from one point of view, I think,
which is like, all Brooklyn, they're down to old and
(44:54):
what are they gonna do? They gotta win. It's all
about that. If you look at the Celtics, my question
is how greedy are you? Are you greedy? In a
good way, like the Warriors were in Game three. They
could have easily been like, you know what, we're an
altitude here. There's a lot of energy in this building.
Yo kich is going off like we'll get him in
(45:15):
game four and try to get a split in these
two games on the road, and they didn't. They fought
through it and they won Game three. They are greedy
in a good way. That's the question today. How greedy
is Boston? Are they locked in? Can they win this
game and just take a stranglehold lead on the series?
I mean it looked like they're they're locked in, They're
hidding shots, they're playing hard defense, They've created turnovers already.
(45:37):
I mean, whatever happened in January for Boston, you gotta
bottle that, because goodness, it's teams all over all over
the world. We want some of that. I mean, they've
been unbelievable since January. They have. It's crazy how the
the switch was just flipped. Man wild like that. I'm
(45:58):
Brian though he's he from salam here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
big man. If we turn our attention to the NFL,
here for a bit, forty Niners stud wide receiver Deebo
Samuel he wants to be traded. Now he's a hybrid, right,
and that might be part of the reason why he
wants to be traded. All we know is this isn't
completely money generated. There might be more layers. That's what
(46:23):
the reports are. The insiders say, like Deepot talked directly
to Jeff Darlington of ESPN and said it is not
fully money relations. So the funny thing is when you
say that you gotta got sometimes you gotta listen between
the lives. You know how people say read between the lines.
Sometimes you have to listen between the lines. And him
(46:48):
saying it's not fully money generated, like that, that's not
what it is. M hm sold. The next follow up
question should be, okay, if they if the forty nine
has offered you a contract comparable to Tarik Hill, would
(47:11):
you take it? Then we'll get the answer. You see
what I'm saying. Then we'll get the real answer, right
because if the answer is yes, well then it is
fully fully financial. If the answer is no, it's my role, okay,
(47:31):
then then now we got Now we can talk about
something else. But if that's what they're saying, if if
he takes that deal, right, which I would assume is
the issue Davante Adams deal and then Tarika uh Hill's
Tarik Hill's deal. I would think, you know him being
(47:55):
all pro receiver, do everything, he's the most valuable player
on the sentences forty period and thirty million dollars a year.
Is what's the going rate? Wow receiver? Then yeah, right, yes.
(48:16):
My question is if it isn't fully financially related, what
is it related to? And I'm hearing a lot of
this where well, it might be his role where he's
a hybrid guy, and I just don't know nothing about.
Nothing about watching Deebo performed last year made me think
(48:37):
he was unhappy and scoring touchdowns and eating up yards
by the boatload. Nothing about it. It was like, doesn't
like that against Dallas where he's getting carries, right, I
don't think Debo was like if I could just get
the ball less, I'd be happier, right. Or against Green
(48:59):
Bay he had a big carry to set up the
winning field goal. I won't forget that because I had
the over Russian top with Deebo Samuel and he rushed
for like eight or nine yards on their final offensive play.
I don't think he was upset about getting the ball then,
you know. So that's what I'm curious about, is is
this really what's going on where he's upset that he's
being utilized in the running game. No, because thirty million
(49:23):
will cover up all of that. Thirty million a year, Yeah,
that covers up all of that. I don't know. He
just seems like a baller to me. He seems like
a guy who wants the ball, Michael Ball. That's exactly right.
And and and look precedent had we talked about this
all the time, especially with NFL come contracts, there's precedent,
(49:47):
and when it's set, the people in line after are
going to point to that number no matter what, especially
if they have numbers to back them up. Right, does
a J. Brown as well? He's unhappy in him, he's
ready for his new deal. You think they can go
(50:08):
to a J. Brown, who's their entire passing game, and
and and and they say that, and he's gonna take
one million dollars a year. Two, it's not gonna happen.
Deebo Samuels is not taking twenty two million dollars a
year when two other guys with comparable stats and ability
(50:30):
or getting thirty million a year. This is what president
has happened. You know what other president was set. Nope,
I don't agree, and I can't wait. I cannot wait.
I know, I know, I know. There's a reason that
(50:51):
the owners are upset with what the Browns did. There's
a reason. It's just not because of what Deshan has
going on off the field. They trust me always, don't
care anything about that. Right, No criminal charges, Okay, they're time, right,
whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen. He's just not going
(51:12):
to jail. Eventually, he's gonna be available. The owners are
upset because they know, right the the Los Angeles charges, No,
the Cincinnati Bengals, no, what's about to happen, Baltimore Ravens, No,
(51:32):
what's about to happen? Because the president has been set? Nope,
I disagree. Hey, you know what I want. I want
to I wanna. I want to thank you and and
commend you for letting me get all that out before
you jumped in. I know that I know that was
tough for you, and I want to say I appreciate that. Well, hey,
(51:52):
well thank you. I appreciate you appreciating me. But no,
I don't think that's the case. Now, I halfway agree
with you. Here's what I agree with with DeShawn Watson
getting a two hundred thirty million dollar fully guaranteed contract.
That does make negotiations for other teams with their star
quarterbacks tougher. That it absolutely better numbers. But what it
(52:17):
does not do is mean that they have got to
give either the same numbers or even bigger numbers, because
typically these contracts get bigger. They're not gonna have to
give two hundred thirty two hundred forty million dollars in
fully guaranteed money to Joe Burrow justin Herbert Lamar Jackson.
Let me ask you something. With Joe Burrow coming off
(52:41):
what he's come off of and being who he is,
Herbert too, let's just take the the two freshest newest
young ones. Lamar is his own category because the way
he plays, you mean to tell me, as a as
a GM are an owner with those guys not even
(53:03):
close to their prime yet, you wouldn't lock them in
for five years to thirty thirty guarantee fully guarantee. But
that's the thing. But I'm saying, why would you pay Like,
let's say you're going car shopping if you could get
do you think they'll be worth it? Though? That's what
I'm That's basically what I'm asking. Do you think those
(53:26):
two guys that I just mentioned would be worth that?
It's not about what they're worth, it's about what you
have to pack. I know this is what this is
all make believe right now, and I just I'm just
asking you a simple question, do you think those guys
are worth it? I can't answer your question directly because
(53:47):
it doesn't come down to that. That's what's different DeShawn Watson.
There was a bidding war for the guy. There were
four or five other teams. No, no, no, no, I'm
not I'm just you gotta hang with me for a second.
Big as your question, it does not apply to this situation.
Like the reason that the Browns gave DeShawn what they
gave him is because they were competing against the Saints
(54:10):
and the Falcons and the Panthers. There are a bunch
of teams after DeShawn Watson. That's why the price tag
went so high. That's not what the Bengals are doing
with Joe Burrow. They're just negotiating with Joe. So whether
he's worth a two thirty million dollar fully guaranteed deal
or not. They don't have to give it because they're
(54:31):
not competing against other teams. He's still under contract. And
unless he says I'm out of here, trade me, and
now all of a sudden it becomes a bidding war,
then that comes into you don't think that, No, I don't.
I don't, And Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson,
they don't strike me as pay me or I'm freaking
(54:54):
out of here. I don't see that. I look at
look at Mahomes. Mahomes could have easily said, y'all are
gonna have to step this up. You're gonna have to
give me a lot more guaranteed money. He could have
absolutely forced the issue with the Chiefs, and he didn't
do that. Look, one thing we do knows. Everybody is
not the same right on one thing we do know.
(55:17):
They just gave thirty five year old quarterback thirty six
How does a Rods thirty six hundred and fifty million
dollars guaranteed? They just gave a twenty five year old
quarterback two d thirty million dollars guaranteed. The two younger
guys who are coming. You mean to tell me we're
(55:41):
not worth right, there's a ten year difference between Aaron
Rodgers and and Deshaun Watson. Aaron Rodgers got one fifty
and Deshaun Watson got two thirty. The two younger guys
coming up. Mm hmm. All of this, all of this
(56:02):
is gonna be on the table about to have a
field day. We're locking in our candy bar bat. We'll
come back from the break that though we are locking
this in, welcome back to the world of debauchery, and
I will be welcomed back with the resounding win that
(56:23):
will only take at least a year to be paid off, right,
because not because you're lagging here, big man, but because
the contracts for Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert will not
be locked in for the next year or so. But
it will be a resounding win. Also, we'll get to
this story as well. Is it a reason or is
it an excuse? That's on the way. I'm Brian No
(56:44):
Easy from salam This is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian
no He's he from Salam. Here on Fox Sports Radio.
We're brought to you by one of our favorite cities.
Las Vegas the greatest arena on earth. Every game, match, race,
and competition, it is always on. No one does sports
(57:05):
like Vegas and the excitement is endless. So make sure
to plan your trip today at visit Las Vegas dot com.
And speaking of Vegas, Thursday night Draft Night, I am yes,
I have made my reservations. I will be there in
Vegas to catch the first round. Where are you going?
(57:26):
I'm going to the thing, to the main draft area,
Like here's the crazy with the general admission. Yeah, that's
where I'm going because uh, I've done a little bit
of research and the only way I think it works
is you can buy like a ticket package for day one,
(57:46):
but all those have been gobbled up and they said,
like the day two packages are available for fifty dollars.
It's like, what general admission it is? Baby, Like, why
don't you get a press pass? The little peek behind
the curtain. They've been gobbled up at Fox, like the
morning show they're gonna be broadcasting there, and so our guy,
(58:10):
right Lee Robert de Lapped the fourth, our former producer,
he uh, he's going there, right, He'll be there in Vegas.
And he was like, hey, you might want to reach
out because they've got some passes, and so I I
hit up one of our bosses and said, hey, any
passes available been gobbled up. Sorry, So general admission it is,
(58:32):
which is fine. I don't I wonder if I can
get one, really that you should try just to see,
let's do a little experiment. Guarantee. I don't want to
do that to you. Man, where there's no rank, you
should just I'm not going to do that. Man, reach
out reach out to our guy, Scott Shapiro and just hey, Scott.
(58:52):
I know it's last minute, but can I get a
press pass for the draft? And if he's like, yeah,
no problem me for that, I'll let me know exactly
where I rank. You know, Well, I mean I did
get drafted, so I mean you know what I mean.
It's there is a separation there. I mean, I did
play in the very league that's holding the draft, and
(59:16):
I was also drafted in said league. Well, you might
get a press pass from said league. I don't know
if you get a press passed from said Fox Sports
Radio network, you know, I don't know if it works
the same. I mean I can call the Falcons and
and tell them I want to like, no problem, I
(59:37):
can call Houston. Could you call the Lions? I wouldn't.
I wouldn't call the Lions of Jacksonville. Yeah, oh no,
but yeah, but I think it's differently. But I did
register h with the NFL Trust for the NFL Watch
Party that will be on the facilities in the like
(59:58):
the private room at the all of the bells and
whistles in there. Um, So are you go wonder what?
I don't know because I have an event I'm supposed
to do down there as well, this golf event that
I'm supposed to do. Yeah, you're not sure, huh. And
I'm not sure if I'm I'm gonna go or not. Um,
(01:00:19):
but I do have a plus one. Oh wow. Okay,
all right, so that's a possibility. Huh. So what I'm
saying to you iss fall through. I don't know if
I can bring myself to it. Is that what you're saying.
I decide to go, then I'll bring you with me
(01:00:43):
to the to the NFL Watch Party of the NFL
Trust Watch Party. All right, That's what I'm saying. Okay, Okay,
you go. You were going in the negative direction and
I was, well, I'm glad you took it in the
positive way. Well, I mean, if I'm there and you're there,
I'm not gonna let you stand out there with the
(01:01:04):
do with the crazy head uh dress on and people
then then oh never mind. Then no hey, no no no, no,
no no, no, I can go I can go low brow.
I can go high brow. You know. If you need
me to not wear the foam finger and you know,
sip the lattaste with the pinky out, I can do that. Sorry,
I'm I'm gonna go high brow. Okay, I can get
(01:01:27):
down that way too. And I can get down, you
know with the I'm going to school. I want the
food to drinks. Uh, where is that? What's the setting
for that? Where is it? I had a look on
my confirmation email. Yeah, but it's gonna be there. Wherever
the draft is, it'll be there. It'll be there. Yeah,
(01:01:47):
because I want to see some bear hugging going on,
you know what I mean. I want to feel and
with the number one pick and whoever it is, and
I want to hear the cry. I want to feel
all that, you know what I mean. Let me see,
let me let me pull this up here. See, Now,
what's the attire for this thing if I show up
(01:02:09):
with the spiked shoulder pads, so they're gonna be looking
sideways at me, like, who invites your freak guy? Yeah, okay,
all right, I will not be decked out in face
pain just just in case, you know, just in case.
All right, big man is gonna get some details. We
have a candy bar bet to solidify here. Brooklyn is
(01:02:31):
making a run right now to tell you more about
that and pretty much everything you need to know in
the sports world. There is a man who was made
to deliver. He's a friend of America. He is the Prompt,
the Dapper, the the lovable Steve de Seger. What's going on,
(01:02:56):
Steve Prompt and Dapper? I'll take it. Meanwhile, we have
the update from the ball game that's going on at
Tampa Bay. The Rays are scoreless bottom of the eighth
against the Boston Red Sox and it looks like they're
just now going to the ninth inning. The Red Sox
don't have a hit yet. The Rays have used typical
Rays fashion. They have used six pitchers, but the offense
(01:03:18):
for the Red Sox is over twenty five in this game,
so end of eight zero zero, the Rays only have
two hits in this game. As for the NBA contest,
ongoing three minutes left in the first half, Boston trying
to go up three games to none, leading at Brooklyn one.
Jayson Tatum had twelve points in the first twelve minutes.
(01:03:38):
He has not scored in the second quarter. Bruce Brown,
you talked about this first hour. He has sixteen points.
Kyrie Irving with ten, Kevin Durant two of three shooting unacceptable.
That is unacceptable, and all the mrs from earlier in
this series also unacceptable. Five points for Durant in the
first half. The late games still over an hour and
(01:03:59):
a half way the two seats in the West, Memphis
Grizzlies up two games to one, playing at Minnesota. Utah's
tied two games apiece and its first rounder after edging
Dallas one hundred to ninety nine. Rudy Gobert seventeen points,
fifteen rebounds, including a key dunk with eleven seconds to go.
Luca don Sitch did return, scored thirty points in defeat.
He'd missed first three games of the series with string calf.
(01:04:22):
Ten rebounds for don Sitch as well. Toronto still live
after beating Philadelphia, one ten to one oh two Pascal
Siakam thirty four points. Philly's lead in the series is
three games to one. Joel Embiid with his thumb injury,
twenty one points, five turnovers. Toronto Scottie Barnes won the
Rookie of the Year award, getting forty eight first place
votes to forty three for Evan Mobley of Cleveland. The
(01:04:44):
NFL Draft starts this Thursday night in Las Vegas, with
full coverage here on Fox Sports Radio. The NFL's full
schedule will be released May the twelve. The USFL is
on FS one tonight. It's Houston at Birmingham, but I
should say every regular season game is in Burma Ham.
It's at ten week regular season and they're all played
there in Alabama. But the home team happens to be
(01:05:05):
technically the visitors in this one. They're trailing fifteen thirteen
in the second quarter against the Houston Gamblers. Earlier we
had Philadelphia defeat Pittsburgh thirty to twenty three. Among the
twelve NHL games, Pittsburgh as seven to winner at Detroit.
Hockey's regular season ends next Friday night for most teams.
Right now, Tampa Bay in the second period leads three
(01:05:26):
to over the Nashville Predators. Tyson Fury won his boxing
match in London by sixth round t KO against Dillian
White and a Major League Baseball They're just starting the
ninth inning. Red Sox at Rays with correct Boston without
a hit. In fact, they popped up the opening batter
at the top of the ninth. This might go to
extra intings. Cardinals were five nothing winners at Cincinnati, just
(01:05:48):
three hits for the Reds, who are now two and thirteen.
The game on FS one went to the Twins nine
two over the White Sox. Eloy Humenez of the White
Sox left with a hamstring injury in the second of
a double her at Detroit. Rockies lead three nothing against
the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh. The first
game was highlighted by Detroit's Miguel Cabrera getting career hit
(01:06:08):
number three thousand, and Detroit won the game thirteen to
nothing over the Rockies. Cubs won their home game twenty
one to nothing against the Pittsburgh Pirates. And guys, it's
Sunday morning in Japan. There's a picture in Japan who
has made some news this month. At age twenty, Roki
Sasaki through a perfect game with his hundred mile an
hour fastball, the first perfect game in almost thirty years
(01:06:31):
in the Japanese pro leagues. And he had nineteen strikeouts
in that game April tenth. And then his next start
last Sunday, eight perfect innings and fourteen strikeouts, but it
was a zero zero game, and after a hundred two pitches,
his manager pulled him and a reliever gave up a
home run in the tenth and his team lost one nothing.
(01:06:51):
But if you count the last out that he got
at the end of the start before the perfect game,
that's now fifty two consecutive batters retired by this kid.
So when's he coming to the majors, you may ask, well,
MLB dot Com says, Japanese baseball sources indicate Sasaki is
unlikely to be posted for Major League clubs to bid
on after either of the next two seasons. May not
(01:07:13):
come to North America for several more years. May wait
until after he turns. We'll see what the rules will
be as far as n will be posting by then.
But at least that's the story now, all right, Thank you,
Steve Bryan. Noany from salam with you here on Fox
Sports Radio. Uh net's hanging tough. Down by five right now,
a couple of minutes left in the second quarter. But
(01:07:35):
as Steve mentioned to begin the update, k D, we
gotta do. There's old mike up footage of Lawrence Taylor.
This is dated now, but when he was with the
Giants back in the day, he hit a Jets quarterback
and just looked down and said, son y'all gotta do
better than this. And I think that applies to Kevin
(01:07:56):
Durant right now. Kevin Durant has to answer this challenge,
and thus far he has not. He's two in the
first half. How great were those soundbites the NFL films
miked up stuff? He was a serious problem, man. I mean,
I would guess he was. He's probably one of, if
(01:08:17):
not the greatest football player ever. If not what I mean,
he's gotta been, what the top three. He's arguably the
greatest defensive player of all time. And he changed, literally
changed the game. One of his other great soundbites from
(01:08:37):
that same time was right and have some fun of
crazy dogs. But k D is two for three. This is,
by the way, on the heels of him going oh
for ten in the second half of the last game
from the field, and with the nets being down to
(01:08:59):
oh in this series, and he's two for three, Like,
come on, man, you gotta do better than that. I
know Jayson Tatum is playing great defense and the Celtics
collectively are playing swarming defense. Shots. Katie has four five Now,
he just took the three. I mean, that's that's not enough.
That is not nearly enough. There you go, he hit it.
(01:09:20):
He just he has six. Now, Okay, he's ramping up,
but he's just got to be better than this. He's
got to erupt in the third quarter. Now, we've got
to uh solidify the bet here. We've been beating around
the bush big man, because I took gambling off during Lent,
but now Easter has come and gone. You are of
(01:09:42):
the mindset that Deshaun Watson's contract with the Browns is
a precedent setter. But this is the way it's going
to go for the next wave of young quarterbacks that
are about to earn mega deals. So I'll try to
make this as simple as possible. I am saying that
(01:10:03):
Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert not one of them.
I don't. I don't want to put Lamar in there
because of the way he plays, you know what I mean. Okay,
that's fine, but I'm not saying I'm saying none of
them we'll have a fully guaranteed contract in the two
hundred plus million dollar range. So for me, it would
(01:10:24):
just take one of those three to have a fully
feel for you to win. Yeah, I mean, candy bar,
candy bar beat, welcome back. It feels good, it feels good,
It feels good to be back here. I've missed this
so much. Oh my gosh, glad to be back here. Yeah.
(01:10:45):
I just don't think it's gonna be the same situation
because there won't be a bidding war. There won't be
many teams at the negotiating table. At the same time,
I will say this, that next big quarterback deal for
a young quarterback, that's gonna be a big deal. I
think that's going to sort of set the tone for
the market of where these contracts are going to be,
(01:11:08):
because I think Deshaun Watson's deal that was just the
outlier that was just outrageous. But let's say, let's say
Lamar Jackson is the next guy to get a big
big contract. I don't expect it to be fully guaranteed,
and I think that's gonna be more of the baseline
contract than the Deshaun Watson one will be. Do you
(01:11:29):
agree with that? Or even if it's Kyler Murray whatever,
Kyler Murray's deal is not gonna be fully guaranteed. I
think that's gonna be one of the contracts that will
be like, well, we're going by this now that makes
sense to you. Yeah, I don't think either one of
those guys because of the style of play. M Um
(01:11:49):
would because that's an arguing point, right. The agent comes in,
he's talking, he's talking. Well, in Lamar's case, Lamar comes in,
he's his own agent and he's talking. He's talking, and
they're saying, Lamar, I get it, you're worth everything you
are this team, but we can't fully guarantee you. If
(01:12:10):
we can't, if we don't think or there's a possibility
that you're rushing for a thousand yards and throwing for
thirty yards somewhere in that thousand yards, we can lose
you for the season. It's it's really bad timing for
Lamar being at the negotiating table. Well, he's gonna make
(01:12:31):
a lot of money at all. He's gonna he's gonna
due to injury to close the season. And that's that's
the thing. That's and that's why they didn't make the
players like that's that's what they're holding on to, like, Look,
we can't, how can we can't do that? What you're
gonna do is you're gonna hamstring the team. M hmm.
(01:12:51):
We're gonna give you, We're gonna allocate all that money
to you, and you're not available. We're not gonna be
able to put the pieces around all of that stuff
before two right, Yeah, I mean Borrow just came off
of a c L and went to the Super Bowl. Yeah,
it's the timing of it. Sure, that's when Josh Allen
(01:13:13):
with the Bills, when he got his mega deal that
was off of him a season where he was number
two in the m v P Unreal numbers. Yeah, and
that's the difference. We know Lamar Jackson is a former
m v P he won the award, but that was
two years ago and he just came off a season
where he missed the final four plus games. That's a huge. Yeah,
(01:13:36):
he's got to get his um man. He just gotta
stay healthy, man, I know. And that's the weird thing
is he makes him special, puts him in such risk
to be on the cam Newton. He was probably the
biggest mobile quarterback out there. And you remember that first
(01:13:57):
game against Denver to kick off the season, soul out
his body. Yes, after that, Yeah, he never was. He
never was the same after that. Yeah, it's dude, it's
just a matter of time. That's it's too physical of
a league to take that amount of punishment and just
(01:14:19):
keep on ticking. It doesn't work like that, and it's
hard to fully guarantee something that if you don't, you know,
your style of play dictates that you may or may
not be available. That's right. Yeah, it's hard to guarantee
huge money when there's no guarantee that guy is going
to be healthy and behind center. That's where they're at
(01:14:41):
all right. Coming up next, some interesting comments from a
player formally of this organization. Does he make sense with
what he's talking about? That's on the way. I'm Brian No,
he'sy from Salam. This is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian No,
He's he from Salam. You're on Fox Sports Radio. You know,
(01:15:02):
big man. If we meet up in Vegas. Maybe we'll
be in Luck and Slayer will be playing, like say,
Wednesday night, and you know you can do the golf.
You got the first round of the draft on Thursday,
Slayer on Wednesday. I haven't checked, but man, that would
be a dream come true? Would it? Not? Excuse me?
Say what? Um? By the way, that's a good segue
(01:15:27):
because that was my reaction to former Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson.
So he's now with the Minnesota Vikings, but he was
weighing in on the Kyler Murray situation. Kyler Murray the
Cardinals quarterback. He wants his money, he wants to be paid,
and so Patrick Peterson on the All Things Covered podcast,
(01:15:49):
he weighed in on the Arizona Cardinals organization. Right, So
this is what Peterson had to say, Check this out.
No disrespect to the Arizona Cardinals. I feel like I
don't put the team in position to be successful year
after year after year. They want to sit and wait
on draft picks instead of being aggressive in free agency
(01:16:10):
and going get guys that can help you get better
right now versus waiting on the future. And Kyler Murray
is not gonna sit and run away for that okay,
big man, I'm curious what you think. My two cents is,
it's funny because that's the way it used to be
with the Arizona Cardinals. I don't think that's the way
it is right now. No, I don't see it that
way at all. I mean, they're doing everything they can.
They didn't know did DeAndre Hopbins was gonna get hurt
(01:16:32):
right right? I mean when when they were both healthy,
and the thing is pensively they went out they got J. J.
Watt and some other pieces like I mean, they're not
standing pat Yeah. I think it's an outdated take, and
I think it's funny because this all stems from Kyler Murray.
(01:16:54):
There isn't a more aggressive move than the Cardinals getting
Kyler Murray. They drafted Josh Rosen in the top ten
the year before, and the very next year they're like,
a screw, this is going in a different direction. Number
one overall, pick let's go with Kyler Mary. Sometimes as
former players, we use how we felt at an organization, uh,
(01:17:19):
for the narrative of what they are now, and that's
not necessarily the case. That's exactly and I think in
this situation that's you know that's what's happening. Yeah, it's
exactly what happened with Carson Palmer talking about the Bankers organization.
Remember right before the Super Bowl, he was like, well,
(01:17:40):
Joe Burrow, he's gonna have to look at this and say,
is this organization committed? Are they gonna surround me with
enough talent? That applied to Carson Palmer. It doesn't apply
currently to Joe Burrow. No, no, it did. It didn't
um because you know, instead of drafting someone else, they
drafted his friend and former teammate, and that connection became
(01:18:02):
electric right away. That's right. So you know, I look,
players are gonna feel how players are going to feel,
you know, and so yeah, sometimes you gotta look past that.
I think that's the other parallel two is we would
have said the same things about the Cincinnati Bengals organization
(01:18:23):
before last season, which is there a little bit too passive,
they're not aggressive enough. Management hasn't made the right decisions,
and yet they ended up in the Super Bowl. So
I think it's more of an excuse with the Arizona
Cardinals than it is a reason. I think the organization
the last few years they've been aggressive enough. It wasn't
(01:18:44):
management's fault that they started off the season seven and no,
But now of a sudden, it's management's fault when they
lose for their last five games. I just don't buy that. No,
I don't. I don't buy it either. And um, it's
you know, you just gotta Kyler Murray's in a position
where he doesn't have any power. He's under contract. Yeah sure, so,
(01:19:11):
I mean, what is he just finished his third here
on a rookie deal that it has two more years
and then they can franchise attacking for two more So
that's four years. Okay. Um, By the way, I'm gonna
switch gears on you. It's a crazy scene in the
(01:19:32):
Bronx today, the Yankees playing the Cleveland Guardians. There was
an outfielder, Miles Straw of Cleveland. He was getting into
it with the fans in the outfield. This is after
the game. This is how it sounded with John Sterling
on the Yankees radio network. The players are all coming
off of field. I don't blame the Indians. The people
(01:19:53):
have got to stop throwing things. They didn't left field,
they did it right field. And the Yankees went out
there holding up their hands, holding up their arms and
their hands like stop stop. So the Yankees are just
coming off. You don't want to see that. That ruined
a fabulous Yankee comeback. Yeah. Miles Straw talked about the
(01:20:16):
Yankees fans and said worst fan base on the planet anymore.
They are they're not. Yeah, hold onto that one. We'll
get us. Switch that up. Guardians, guardians, it is alright.
Coming up next, a player and a coach each make
embarrassing statements. Oh, what's going on? Hope you're enjoying your
(01:20:39):
Saturday evening. This is the moment of truth, big man
for Kevin Durant, only seven points in the first half.
Net's currently down by ten points. They're staring in oh
three deficit in the face. If they don't win this game,
it is go time for k D. Gotta answer the challenge.
(01:21:00):
Jason Tatum playing tremendous defense. What do you think we're
gonna see here in the second half? Had step up?
I've been waiting and waiting and it hasn't happened yet. Well,
it's hard to step up when it's constant pressure on you. Now,
great players do great things. You always hear people say,
you know, great offense beats great defense any day. It
(01:21:23):
just he seems like as he turns the ball over
on that possession as we're speaking about him taking over,
um is just they're frustrating him. They're throwing everything at
a multiple defenders. The bigs for Boston can move their feet,
so when you do a one five or three five
high pick and roll the big switching out on you
(01:21:46):
can move and make your make it tough. Yeah, yeah,
think about that. But the series we're just watching, think
if it's Rudy Gobert, Rudy Gobert is on ice skates
out there when he's matched up in the switch, it's
all day. Forget it, it's done. But man, you compare
(01:22:06):
these teams who are doing big things in the playoffs
so far. Think about the Warriors, They've been tremendous. Draymond Green.
If Draymond's matched up on you, that's a much much
more difficult bucket to get than it is compared to
being out on Rudy gober in space. Think about the Bucks.
What they did the Bulls in Game three, that was
(01:22:28):
a defensive masterpieces beautiful. You know, the the nets are
on the run right now, uh, turning the ball over,
turning the Celtics over. But you need that, you need
to get transitions, transition baskets. Katie came down on a
fast break and hit a nice short jumper. That's what
(01:22:49):
you need to do, right, You gotta get in the rhythm. Yeah,
and they're right there. It's just you would want them
at home to take over a game, you know, to
make you like breathe and feel more comfortable. It's a
lot on the line right now. You want to talk
about teams looking different, right if this doesn't go well,
(01:23:11):
I suspect Brooklyn looks different. I really do. They would
change a lot of the the role players, the supporting cast.
But it's still one of those deals where you're like,
we still didn't see the big three together. Yeah, but
you you look at the coach as well, right, I
mean Steve Nash Okay, I get it, I understand, but
(01:23:39):
what do you you know? You buying Mercedes and then
you you hire someone an inexperienced driver too to to
drive it. M hm. I get some of the backlash.
I understand that Steve's taken a lot of it. Well
you do, But I mean players though, like when they
when they when you have your own players, tell tell
(01:24:00):
a World Con one night, I'm a coach. The other night,
KD can coach, right like that the problem? But whose
rep do you think should be taking more of a hit?
So far? Subject to change obviously we're just two and
a half games into this series, basically, right, is it
(01:24:20):
Kevin Durant to this point or is it Steve Nash
to this point? With how things have gone down? Um?
I would, I would? You know, that's a tough one
because of injury, what's happened with the with with you know,
Kyrie and not playing and the whole Ben Simmons fiasco.
It's it's hard to say it really is. You know,
(01:24:42):
they're just getting Boston is just out playing him. I
think it's k D easily. That's why I don't understand. Look,
if there's gonna be some Steve Nash criticism, I get that.
But more than k D. K D is the star player.
He was over ten in the second half last game.
You know how that you know how that goes? Right?
(01:25:07):
The age of having a superstar coach, like not even
a superstar coach, a real coach with stars matter. You
know what I'm saying. You look at the last you know,
NBA champions and the coaching pedigree for those teams are tremendous, right, Like,
(01:25:32):
That's that's the thing. Like you look at the you know,
all the great teams this year. Coaching matters. And I'm
not and I'm not taking anything away from Steve Nash
and what he's been able to accomplish, um, But it's
(01:25:53):
it's just a lot of things are going to come
into question. Trust me, a lot of things are gonna
be they get eliminated in the first round. With that
talent on the court, a lot of things are going
to be on the table for change, right. But I
would if you take it back to whichever tandem you
want to go with in terms of the star player
(01:26:13):
and the head coach. You look at the past champions. Right,
If the star player isn't doing work, I don't care
who the star head coach is, right, right, But do
you know what, do you know what they'll say, we
need somebody to get we need to bring somebody in
here to pull that out of them. That's what it
happens all the time. It does. But I think remember
remember Cleveland. Remember Cleveland replaced David Black, who had a
(01:26:38):
tremendous winning record in Cleveland and they bring in Tyron
lou and they win a championship that same year. Like
things like this, It happened. It happens all the time.
And I'm not saying it right, and I'm not saying
it's right. That's not like I'm not saying I agree
(01:26:59):
with that, But what I'm saying is those are the
type of conversations that are happening, are start to happen
when expectations are not even met a little bit. That's fine,
I get all of that, but it's not Steve Nash's
fault that k D was over ten in the second. Right,
You're right, that's the step back. You're you're You're absolutely right.
(01:27:29):
But guess what, But it's like that's the narrative, right,
that's the narrative. It feels like that. Therefore it is
that that's just what happens. It sounds goods They fired
Dwayne Casey, right, And that's another good example. Do I
believe that if they had Kawai Leonard that they wouldn't
(01:27:52):
have won a championship just because Dwayne Casey was there
and Nick Nurse wasn't. No, I don't think that. But
I think they brought Nick Nurse, and he was, I know,
look what happened, and um and and get Golden State.
Look at what's happening with Toronto right now. They don't
(01:28:12):
have Kauahi Leonard and they're down three hit it. But
what I'm saying is in Golden State, Mark Jackson took
them to like fifty something wins and we got fired.
Steve Kerry came in and then win the championship. This
is this is what happens when you have pieces, right,
when you have all the ingredients and you just can't
(01:28:35):
get the cake to come out the way it's opposed to, right,
you change the cook What the Raptors did is they
changed the ingredients. They brought a new cook in and
he brought some new ingredients in. That's right, and all
of a sudden the good ingredients but left for l
a named Kawai Leonard. This is what I'm telling you, though,
(01:28:57):
This is this is what I'm telling you, right, Like, yes,
what you're saying is absolutely right. But the cooks will
get replaced, that they will, and they'll get heavily criticized
some of it. Yeah. Sure. It is Brian Noany from
Salam with the Here on Fox Sports Radio. It was
(01:29:18):
funny because our trusted producer, Danny G. One of the
first things he said to me was, Man, at least
I don't have to hear you talk about the Lakers today.
You know something along those lines, And I said, Danny G,
you're in luck. I actually do have a Lakers topic
for you real quick. We're gonna dip our beaks into
this one. I saw something from Lebron James. I wanted
(01:29:39):
to run this by you. Lebron tweeted something that just
simply said, I can slash will not missed the playoffs,
missed the postseason again from my career, this s word hurt. Okay,
back to watching these games I watched. I looked at
that and I'm like, that is just so embarrassing. Are
(01:30:01):
you serious? Really embarrassing? I'm not going you shouldn't. What
kind of guarantee Remember what he said a week ago
or two weeks ago, this season wasn't a failure. Yeah,
that's on. Now you're talking out of both sides of
your mouth and we're not listening. Yeah, I don't want
(01:30:23):
to hear anything. I don't want to hear nothing of that.
Do you know? You know me? Man? You gott ring
the bill. Yeah, that you show up, you got to
ring the bill. That's not exactly stepping out on a limb.
He's only got a couple more years to play. He's
nearly forty years. Like, if John Morant came out and said,
I'm not gonna miss the postseason ever in my career,
(01:30:45):
would be like, you got a long career, We'll see
how it goes. Lebron's got two three years left. You
gotta be in the top ten in your conference. I
can't believe you put that out there. That's just bad. Yeah. Look, man,
I'm I'm disappointed and the Lakers their effort um and
(01:31:10):
I'm disappointed while they summarized and wrapped up the season
in their own words, that's not that's not that is
not championship caliber speak. The only way to wrap up
that season is unacceptable, unacceptable, huge disappointment. Time to go
(01:31:30):
back to the drawing board all of old. That's that's
what I want to hear. I don't want to hear.
You know, it wasn't a failure. It wasn't a failure.
I don't know what this is about me having to
prove myself like Westbrooklyton, I didn't have any expectations, right,
(01:31:50):
what are you talking about? This is not okay. See,
this is the Lakers. You put on that jersey, there's
an expectation every single year, no matter who's on the roster,
to win the championship. Mm hmm, yeah you need to. Yeah. Absolutely.
My mother, my mother who loves Lebron James right even before.
(01:32:15):
Why we all we grew up Laker fans. It's just
you know, mhm and um, I don't know if I
told you my uncle Bob McAdoo play for the Lakers. Um,
so it's it's deform where we living. I didn't know
this and we used to, you know, go to the
perform and watch the Lakes and all that. So you know,
(01:32:35):
when Lebron was in Cleveland, all my mom just loves Lebron,
right like, so, oh look at look at my other son.
I'm like, hey, look man, I'm like, I'm like, I'm
not We're not doing that. I'm a Laker fan. I
don't care what Lebron is doing. Then he comes to
the Lakers. Now she's in heaven. Oh now I'm sitting
here hyper critical as I should be. Okay, Yeah, and
(01:32:58):
she's texting me just stop talking about Lebron, like mind
you god, you know guy was on our side this morning.
My my mother got into a car accident yesterday. I
should said, somebody ran into her from behind at the stoplight.
And she still finds the energy to text me to
stop talking about Lebron. Mom, get some rest. You shouldn't
(01:33:23):
be you shouldn't even have your phone. Get some rest.
She's okay, all of those out there, she's okay. Yeah,
that's scary. It is. It is scary. You know, she's
in Atlanta. She lives in Atlanta. So I was just like,
I gotta get on the flight. I don't know, you know, so, man,
traffic is no joke in Atlanta, but no, it's but
(01:33:44):
look living in l A. Uh, it doesn't matter. Never
seen in I'm okay with traffic anywhelse in the world.
I used to think that too, because I lived in
l A for i'd say about three years, and I've
experienced plenty of traffic there, and I would hear over
the years people would be like, oh, I mean traffic
(01:34:05):
in Indianapolis. I'm like, oh, I bet it's gridlock in Indie,
huh compared to l A. And they used to say
that about Atlanta. I went to Atlanta. It is a
real situation over there. Yeah, it's bad, it's bad. It's bad,
but it stops. Yeah, you can still move, it's no,
but it stops like traffic ends. Yeah. Yeah, the traffic
(01:34:28):
does not end here. That's the problem. That's it's never
at any given time on any of the freeways there's
bumper to bumper traffic. That's right. So there is no
there is no end. Right. You can get on the
four or five and nine p m. And be in traffic.
I've got I've gotten home from the airport in like
(01:34:50):
twelve thirty a m. And on my way home trying
to get back over it's traffic. I'm like, where who
are these people and what are they doing out here? Yeah?
I know it's a different animal out there. Yeah, in
midnight in Atlanta, you could do ninety on freeway. I'm glad.
I'm glad. Your mom's is okay, Okay, that's good. All right?
(01:35:13):
Coming up next a coach that had me looking sideways
and also an absolute gangster move in the sports world.
We'll let you know about that. I'm Brian, No, he's
he from salam This is Fox Sports. Radio. I'm Brian No,
He's he from salam Here on Fox Sports Radio. Thursday.
(01:35:36):
It is Draft Night, and be sure you don't miss
the coverage on Fox Sports Radio. It's throughout the entire
first round. That's on Thursday at eight pm Eastern Time,
live from the Bellaggio in Las Vegas. Jay Glazer former
Vikings general manager Rick Spielman, are very own, LaVar Arrington
(01:35:56):
and Rob Stone. We'll have you covered throughout the entire
first round. They'll have picked by pick predictions, all the
reactions of the entire first round. That's Thursday at eight
pm Eastern Time, live from from the Bellaggio in Las Vegas.
Listen on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
We've got the Nets making a bit of a run here,
(01:36:17):
big man. They trimmed it to a three point deficit,
Boston ahead seventy seventy two, just over a minute to
play in the third quarter. As Kevin Durant just has
twelve points, but he is the facilitator. It's kind of
like the Ben Simmons of the Nets right now. He's
not scoring a whole lot, but he's dishing it and rebounding.
(01:36:38):
Look when it's not falling for you. You gotta find
ways to impact games in different in another way. You
have to. You're not gonna be on all the time.
But defense, getting teams, team involved, rebound, all of those
things matter. I do wonder as you look at Jason Tatum,
who's eight for twenty one from the field, He's got
(01:36:59):
twenty five point It's kind of like an old school
Carmelo Anthony stat line, right the volume scoring. You take
a lot of shots, you don't hit a ton of them,
but you've got twenty five points. I wonder how much
Tatum's defense is making it tougher for him offensively. We
know he's a great two way player, one of the
(01:37:19):
best in the NBA, But when you are playing that
amount of suffocating defense against Kevin Durant, that's got to
impact you on the offense. Does legs started to get heavy? Yeah?
You know, um, it would be interesting how you know,
some adjustments they'll make when we get in, you know,
(01:37:41):
down the stretch here in the fourth quarter, which is
coming up shortly, of how they're going to do that.
That's the other part if this is a long series,
that's where I think the Celtics. The defense that they're playing.
I think that's gonna take a lot out of them.
(01:38:02):
Where think of a boxing match, right, we just had
Tyson Fury win today. We're gonna talk about that. And
that was a sixth round fight. You know, if you
get Tyson Fury in the late late rounds, sided kind
of the same way with Tyson. Right when you got
Mike Tyson into the late late rounds, it was he
was at a disadvantage. And so I just wonder what
(01:38:23):
the Celtics. It takes a lot out of you to
play this level of defense. If this is a seven
game series, I'm curious if that starts to show a
toll where all of a sudden they're shooting percentage. The
Celtics are not shooting it very well because they just
don't have the legs the same way they did at
the beginning of the series. It could happen like that.
(01:38:45):
It's just can the nets get it there? We'll find
out you gotta win this game or it's not going seven. Well,
just like they made a run, Boston ends the third
quarter on a run. Yeah, leads back up to nine. Mhm.
It's I'm telling you, Boston is right there. This is it? Yeah,
(01:39:09):
this day at twelve minutes for their entire season. That's right,
the entire season. It's similar to what we were saying
with Utah. If Utah doesn't come back and win that
game today, they're down three one in the series. It
is a rap and they came back and got it done.
So yeah, nine point deficit for the Nets. This is
(01:39:31):
their season in the fourth quarter, there's no doubt about that.
By the way, how about the gangster move pulled off
by the NFL. They will have not one, not two,
but three Christmas Day games this year. I told you
(01:39:52):
what was going on. It's on a Sunday. And so
Mike North, he is the NFL Vice president of Broadcasting.
I love his quote. He says, Christmas when it falls
on an NFL game day, we've had a lot of
success there. All due respect to our friends at the NBA.
(01:40:14):
If Christmas falls on a Sunday, it makes perfect sense.
And so they'll have a triple header. And they dwarfed
the NBA's radio last year. It wasn't even close. The
Browns Packers game averaged twenty eight point six million viewers.
(01:40:34):
The Nets Lakers game peaked at five point eight. Oh
my gosh wow. Yeah. Yeah. Even the Colts Cardinals game
double that, oh my god, compared to five point eight
five times eight, six times almost six. It's look at
(01:40:59):
the uh the Colts Cardinals game. Remember when Carson went
through the winning touchdown pass in the back of the
end zone in Arizona. That was on Christmas Night as well.
That game averaged twelve point six million on NFL network.
That's double nets Lakers. Yeah, okay, yeah. The NFL basically said, oh,
(01:41:26):
you thought this was your day, didn't you. N b A, Yeah, well,
sorry to do this to you. But triple header in two.
So there it is. That's what you call it. Gangster, right,
(01:41:46):
that's absolutely what it is. It was crazy to the
machine that the NFL is, I didn't realize this. On
Thanksgiving the Bears Lions game, they averaged over the eight
million viewers as well. That was the O nine and
one Lions against the three and seven Bears, and they
(01:42:10):
were still over twenty eight million viewers. That's wild. Now
next year Christmas, it will fall on a um Monday,
and so there might be two or three games, And
in Christmas is on a Wednesday, so they might not
(01:42:33):
do two or three games. That day. That's all the
NBA has to cling to as well. In maybe we
get that day back for one year before the NFL
kicks us to the curb. Yet again, that's all you got.
If the NFL gets a liking to Christmas, then I
can see them playing special Christmas Day games no matter
(01:42:59):
what day it falls on. That's just another whole revenue stream. Mhmm,
Wednesday Christmas Day game. You can talk to yourself into anything,
right if it's on a Tuesday, that's one day away
from Monday Night Football. Day at both teams get a
by the next week. Yeah, Wednesday, that's one day away
(01:43:21):
from Thursday Night Football. You know we can We had
that goofy Raven Steelers game due to COVID on a Wednesday,
or it's have been done before. Yeah, I wonder what
those numbers were, whatever it was they won the day,
still good enough, right, Speaking of winning the day, I
(01:43:42):
think that's one of the many illustrations, right, the descriptions
of this guy. I would let you take it from here,
big man. When you talk about winning the day, winning
there's a show on HBO Max called Winning Time. But
every week we're privy to Winning Time. When it's time
(01:44:02):
for an update. It's winning time, and this one it's
time for news, is winning time. There's no discrepancy on
the validity of the information we get. And that's from
one Stephen w. By the way, the NBA regular season
ratings Christmas included every day. All the national channels combined.
(01:44:26):
The NBA regular season averaged one point six millions this season,
which was their largest in three years. By the way,
playoffs are at three point six million so far as
we get underway. By the way, Boston's lead at Brooklyn
early in the fourth quarter. But we just had two
great games in Major League Baseball. We mentioned last hour
(01:44:47):
what was going on at Tampa Bay. The race through
nine no hit innings against Boston using six pictures, five strikeouts,
five walks, the game was scoreless. Boston in the top
of the tenth inning has a chance to and the
no hit bid with a drive into the right field corner.
Bell Beck is on at third and the Red Sox
have their first hit of a one nothing lay a
(01:45:07):
trip up by Bobby thal Back breaking up the no
hitter at getting the Red Sox on the board. Red
Sox Radio Network, and then we go to the bottom
of the tent on w d a E Rays Radio Network.
Boston committed a two out error to keep the game going,
Boston holding on to a two one leaveing a log
trive for right back to thes Bradley gone happy but
(01:45:30):
lated birthday Kevin Tamyer. The Rays have walked it off.
It's three to two the Rays. Historic night. What a
game Tampa Bay with the victory. Earlier, we had a
Cubs twenty one nothing win over Pittsburgh. Colorado was up
three nothing in the ninth held on to win three
two at Detroit. That was the second of a double header.
(01:45:52):
The opener at Detroit went to the Tigers thirteen nothing,
as Miguel Cabrera had career hit number three thousand. The
Marlins have taken the lead at Atlanta six five in
the top of the sixth, even though the Braves of
it three home runs. Mike Trout with an early home run,
but the Angels are down to one in the first
to the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles opening day starter John
Means says he will have Tommy John surgery, Padres and
(01:46:16):
you darvish out to a one nothing lead on the
Dodgers in the top of the third, and the New
York Mets are eleven and four so far, but getting
shut out for nothing in the fourth at Arizona tonight,
and yes has mentioned earlier in the show, Cardinals win
again five nothing at Cincinnati. The Reds have lost eleven
in a row there, two and thirteen. I'm smelling twelve
(01:46:37):
in a row tomorrow, Steve, Yeah, that seems like a
safe bet. I don't care who is pitching, and a
win tomorrow would put the Cardinals record at ten and
four so far. As for the Boston Celtics, Jason Tatum
up to twenty five points, and this playoff game at
Brooklyn has ten minutes to go. Celtics lead seventy six,
trying to go up three games to none in this
(01:46:57):
first round series. The late game and a half an
hour will have Memphis at Minnesota. Utah's tied at two
games apiece after edging Dallas one ninety nine, Rudy Gobert
seventeen points fifteen rebounds, he had a key dunk with
eleven seconds to go, and Toronto still alive after finally
beating Philadelphia one ten to one oh two. Sixers lead
the series three games to one Toronto, Scottie Barnes won
(01:47:20):
the Rookie of the Year Award. Back to you, Thank you,
Steve Brian noany from salam with you here on Fox
Sports Radio. Now, big man, I I don't like to
be overly negative, So you tell me if I'm being
overly negative here as we look at this Warriors Nuggets series.
So the Nuggets are down three oh have not won
(01:47:42):
a game. And Mike Malone, head coach of the Nuggets,
he said after Game three, he said, we gave ourselves
a chance. He said that's all he could ask for,
and he couldn't be more proud of his group. And
he also said, if the Nuggets they've got a decision
to make on Sunday, roll over or fight, and if
(01:48:04):
they come out and compete the same way like they
did in Game three on Sunday, He's okay with it. Now,
here's my thing. When did it become good enough just
to compete hard? You know what I mean? When you're
seven and eight, Like, I don't want to go off
on a tangent, but today my voice is a little
(01:48:28):
raspy because I was coaching literal League this morning and
we played against the best team in the league and
the Astros were the A's and our kids were bawling. Right,
we play three innings, the third inning, you know, the
top of the third, we're up nine to four, right,
(01:48:54):
and it just you know it would they We end
up losing by one. But those kids played hard. They
did everything we asked him to do. It's just like that,
and coach pitch, that's when it's okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
there you go. That's when it's okay. These are how
old nine year olds are? Seven and eight year old
(01:49:15):
year old that's when it's okay. You bring it to
the table. Yes, that's when it's okay. Right, Like I
can't control our closes are coming in and walking three
people right and hitting to other but like I can't, right,
that's that's it's our Finding the kid that can close
at excuse me, at seven or eight is impossible. First
(01:49:40):
of all, it's too much pressure to put on an
eight year old, right, you gotta get three outs so
we can when it has too much pressure. I don't
think kids should be pitching under ten anyway, too much
pressure on their arms. They don't need it that early.
But I say that to say the kids gave us
me thing that they had. And that's all you can
(01:50:03):
ask when you're a professional athlete in the NBA. That
is not all we can ask. What we can actually
do when we're paying you to win. We're not paying
you to go out there and give maximum effort. We're
paying you to win. And even if I I don't know,
I uh, I give a little grace where he's doing it.
(01:50:25):
He's a coach, right, He's trying to push the right buttons.
He's thinking, hey, some positivity that might get us in
the right direction. I don't need to kick this team
while they're down. They're going through enough. Okay, fine, but
I don't think you're being overly negative by saying I'm
proud of the effort. It was exactly what we needed.
We've got to bring it like that, but we have
got to find ways to win games. I don't think
(01:50:48):
that's deflating. I don't think the team is just like,
oh my god, no, you gotta you're in a we're
in a playoff series. We gotta win games. We have
to win and we know Jamal Murray not there. You know,
we gotta win games. That's right, what we were doing. Yeah,
(01:51:09):
I just I don't know. It's it went over the
top to me. Whereas we gave ourselves a chance, that's
all I can ask for it. No, no, no, you
can ask for giving great effort, giving yourself a chance
and freaking winning like, there's not too much to ask. No,
you can ask for more. You must, you must ask
(01:51:30):
for for more. You must demand more. Yeah, right, everybody's
gonna pay millions of dollars. You gotta demand more. Yeah. Absolutely.
By the way, the Nets trailing. We're almost midway through
the fourth quarter. They are down by seven. Now now
it's nine. Big Man's got a quicker TV features Brown. Oh,
(01:51:57):
they're down by now, Celtics. This is it, man, This
is the series. It is, It's a series. End the season. Yeah,
for the Nets, it's all down to this. We'll get
to Kevin Durant coming up next. How much of a
(01:52:19):
hit is his reputation taking? We gotta compare notes, and also,
who's the most impressive and disappointing team so far in
the playoffs. We will shoehorn as much goodness as we
can before we get on out of here. I'm Brian Noo,
he'sy from salam This is Fox Sports Radio. Brian No,
(01:52:40):
he's he from salam here on Fox Sports Radio. Not
looking great for the Nets right now, down by twelve
five thirty five left in the fourth quarter as things
stand right now. How much of a hit do you
think k D's reputation is taking here? What would you
(01:53:04):
say as far as that goes? Um? I mean he's
a m v P two time champion. Um, He's gonna
take a hit because this is what they wanted. Lebron
took a hit. He put this team together in l
A and they didn't do what they were supposed to do.
So you take a hit when you're at the figurehead.
That's this is the team they wanted. They wanted to
(01:53:26):
play together, right They all three wanted to play together.
Last year it didn't work. He took a hit. They
wanted to play together this year it's not. It may
not work. He's gonna take a hit. That's what happens.
In terms of his legacy, I don't know if it's
gonna take a hit. He's gonna be a He's an
all time great. We started talking about legacy and stuff
like that. Did why the Washington Wizards Michael Jordan's heart
(01:53:49):
his legacy, No, he's still the greatest player ever played. Yeah,
I think he takes a hit. I wouldn't say a
significant one. It's not like he's no longer one of
the greats of all time. It's within reason. Does this
knock him off the pedestal of being the best player
in the league. Yeah, I think it does. And we'll
(01:54:10):
see how the rest of the playoffs play out. Well, yeah,
I mean there's an argument there about who's the best
player in the league, right, certainly uh um, and being
on how the playoffs go, right, there's there's not a
clear cut Oh, it's not that changes things. Yeah, it does.
(01:54:32):
It does. And the way that he's been guarded, and
he hasn't had answers, he has not the whole series.
You're just waiting. I've been waiting, waiting, waiting, you know,
it feels like it feels like Super Bowl forty two
or you're just waiting and waiting for the undefeated Patriots
to crank it up. And it never has never happened.
We never never got that. Yeah, absolutely right. So, yeah,
(01:54:56):
I think it does take a hit. But within re
you know, you can't say no, it doesn't take any
hit whatsoever. That's silly and to say, oh, it takes
a major major, No it doesn't. He's still one of
the all time greats. But I mean it has to
factor into how he's evaluated, right, That's just the way
it always come. And for the individual year, yes, for
(01:55:18):
his legacy. Now, yeah, what you say is the most
disappointing team so far in the playoffs. I mean, as
it stands right now, Brooklyn is right there. Utah help
their cause. I wouldn't say. I wouldn't say Brooklyn is
the most disappointed for you. It would be because we
(01:55:39):
talked about that, right, like uh huh. You know you
were like, this is this is going to be there.
You know they're gonna run the tables, they're gonna win.
Not you you were. I was all in. I was
a believer. You literally were all in. And thank goodness
I took betting off for Lents, or I would have
lost the candy bar to you, for sure. Yeah. Um,
(01:56:04):
but you know, originally I would have probably said, uh,
the raptors um, but second place would have been to me,
it's probably the Bulls. Really. Yeah, they got punked by thirty.
(01:56:25):
Yeah at home, like you can't with no Middleton. Yeah,
you can't do that. You can't. But you can't come
home in the playoffs in your first playoff game at
home and and just worst home loss in playoff history
for the You can't that. You can't do that. Yeah,
(01:56:45):
that's you know what. The other thing with Kde while
we circled back to the disappointing nets, he has been
a turnover machine. It's not just about the lack of
scoring or the tough second half in Game two. He's
off his game. The Celtics have him in his head. Yeah,
and you would think somebody of his caliber wouldn't have
(01:57:07):
to go through that or deal with that, but yeah,
it is. By the way, one of the teams in
the nightcap tonight is on this list, the Timberwolves, one
of the disappointing teams lead lost the game by nine,
and they were talking big trash too. They were feeling
(01:57:27):
that the big trash about on the positive side, most impressive.
Would you go Celtics? Would you go Warriors? Celtics? I
would say Warriors one A Celtics won b Yeah that
Warriors team. Good lord, Yes, Jordan Poole, he's for real, man.
(01:57:52):
This is not just a flash in the pan. Forget
about it. My good friend, uh Eddie Gordon is a
die hard Warrior fan. He told me before the series
start Warriors winning a championship. Really, yeah, he called it,
and I was like, I'm not quite sure, man, watching
(01:58:12):
them play, they're in the mix. I'm like, yeah, they're
in the mix. There were far too many people dancing
on their graves like happily they'll never win another championship.
That's not gonna happen anymore. Look, I get some of
that with the injuries that Clay was dealing with. You
(01:58:33):
tear your a c l and then the nets about
to lose his game. Yeah, Achilles back. Now they have
absolutely revamped their defense and their ability to score in
a myriad of ways. You can forget about it. Man,
It's a nasty combination. Everybody's so interesting, right, everybody can
(01:58:55):
shoot Devin Booker. Does he come back? Is he gonna
be all right? That's huge story, a huge impact on
this Yeah, that is going to be huge. Massive. Hey.
By the way, NFL draft right around the corner, prop
bet caught my attention. So Malik Willis he might be
(01:59:19):
the first quarterback drafted. So there's a prop bet over
or under ten and a half his draft position. So
you're the betting on, yes, he'll be a top ten pick,
or he'll be number eleven or lower. Of the money
at bet MGM is on Willis being picked number eleven
(01:59:40):
or lower. Is that the way you would expected to
go down there? Big man? Is he a top ten
guy or eleventh or lower? It's no clear cut. It's tough,
right it is. On This year is just oh uncommon. Yeah, well,
(02:00:02):
you know, outside of defensive ends, in defensive line, man
for quarterbacks, you just you know, yeah, normally there's just
a rush on qbs no matter what. And I don't
know if this is gonna be that year might not
have a top ten pick. Last time was the e
J Manual Draft, you know, a long time ago. Alright,
(02:00:22):
So NFL Draft on Thursday, we're gonna hit up. We
might hit up and hold them tournament while we're out
there in Vegas too. All right, let's get after it.
