Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome in everybody, Fox
Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Busy Saturday Night. You know,
Jason Martin, I'll tell you this. Um. You know, sometimes
in life, you know, we come on air. First of all,
I'll say this, I love working Saturday nights, but but
(00:22):
you know, sometimes you come on air and you don't know,
you know, what are we gonna talk about? What are
we gonna lead with? What do we do? Where do
we start? I think the Brooklyn Nets falling down three oh,
literally seconds before we come on air. Um. And there's
a lot of variables that go into this, which we
can talk about in a minute, But I think I
(00:42):
know where we're gonna lead tonight. Jason Martin, how you
do the man doing? All? Right? Uh? Yeah, I don't
know what just happened. Well, I mean, I know what happened,
and I know who the best player on the floor was.
But at the end of the game, I'm trying to
figure out why Durant was trying to go one on
one down seven, Uh, just taking time. It looked. I
guess the game is over, But I thought he was
(01:04):
gonna take a three at the very least he didn't
do it. But regardless, Celtics are up three. Oh this time,
they got it done on the road and the best
player on the floor was Jayson Tatum, and Tatum had
thirty nine in the game. He took twenty nine shots
to do it. That is more I think, Yeah, that
is one more shot than Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant
(01:26):
did combined. They took twenty eight. I don't know what
to say here other than eventually this starts sticking to
these guys like Durant needed to come out and be
super aggressive and he just wasn't. I mean, credit the
Boston Celtics defense, but Aaron my Man took eleven shots
(01:47):
in this basketball game. He had sixteen points. I know,
he had eight assists and eight rebounds. Kevin Durant can't
score sixteen, not after the game he had in Game two.
This would have been the night he took over and
he absolutely did not do it. I should mention, by
the way, tonight show Thursday is the Draft. Be sure
(02:07):
to not not miss Fox Sports Radios draft coverage throughout
the first round next Thursday at eight pm Eastern, live
from the Bellaggio in Las Vegas. Jay Glazer former Vikings
general manager Rick Spielman are very on. LaVar Arrington and
Rob Stone will have you covered throughout the first round
of the draft with pick by pick predictions and reactions
to all thirty two first round picks. That's Thursday at
(02:28):
eight pm Eastern, live from Las Vegas. Throughout the first
round of the draft. Listen on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio app. I was in Vegas this
this week, by the way, and the setup looks awesome
at the Bellaggio. Jason Well, plenty of time to talk
about the draft later on in the show, but LaVar
Arrington will be there, Rick Spielman will be there, Jay
(02:49):
Glazer and Rob Stone for Fox Sports Radio, So make
sure you're tuning in on Thursday. Back to this game, Jason, So, um,
you know listen, you're a thousand percent correct. To me,
it speaks to something bigger though. We can talk Durant
if that's where you want to go. I just tweeted
it and it's funny I was in on. I guess
it would have been Thursday after Game two with Dan Buyer.
(03:13):
I think we're starting to see the death of the
player empowerment. Um. We can take two superstars and put
anyone around them. It doesn't matter era of the NBA
um obviously, the Lakers missing the playoffs, the Nets falling
down three oh. I know, to your point, Kevin Durant
has to be better, he has to be more aggressive.
I just find it very interesting that these two teams
(03:35):
that that, you know, Kyrie Irving very publicly and famously
said yeah, we don't even really need a coach. Lebron
has clearly been his own GM for a significant amount
of time. Now Nets could be out and around one,
Lakers could be out, you know, other playoffs, and that
I could be they will be out of the playoffs entirely.
I think it's really interesting that a team like the Celtics,
a team like the Sons, a team like even the Warriors.
They're veteran, but much more built around the draft. I
(03:57):
just find it interesting that it seems like all of
this is coming to an ape x at the same
time the old guards seemingly coming out the the new guard,
which was actually the old old guard the way things
used to be done. Do you see that as well.
I didn't want to get off the Durant point, but
it was something that I was thinking about coming into
tonight's show. Well, I mean, I think it's the same point, right,
It's the same I mean the point about Durank I
(04:18):
said again. Durant and Irving took a combined twenty eight
shots in this game and made twelve of the them.
Kyrie was over seven from distance. Kevin Duran only took
three threes in the game. He only scored sixteen points.
He was a minus on the floor. He was a
minus two. Kyrie was a minus three. They brought in
Blake Griffin. He played eight full minutes tonight. Gore and
Drugs played nine minutes tonight. Uh. They did get a
(04:40):
great game from Brown Brown. He was leading scoring the game. Usually,
if you've got two superstars and you have a role
player that can get you five plus, you're probably gonna
win that game. But they never had control of this
game at any point. Watching it from the very start,
Boston looked like the more cohesive team were shouldn't be
(05:00):
a giant surprise to anybody. They look like the hungrier team.
They look like the team that wanted it. They look
like the team that was ready to defend their butts off,
and they did. I mean Tatum gave you thirty nine points.
He only missed one free throw, and he wasn't even
good from three. He was less than thirty pc from three,
four from thirteen. Imagine if he had gone eight for
thirteen what he would have done tonight. It is I
(05:23):
think the time just start looking at the draft again,
because one team you didn't mention that we're about to
see in action is Memphis, another team that's the top
three seed in the West, another team that's been built
through the draft with superstars, young guys. We are seeing
right now exactly what you said we are. If you
(05:43):
have two superstars, is that gonna be enough, Well, you
gotta have other dudes that could pick up the slack.
You saw that last week in Game one with Golden State,
and you've continued to see it. They've got another guy
in addition to Curry and Clay and Raymond. They've still
got three dudes there. Brooklyn has two. And if they
think that they're bringing Ben Simmons back in Game four
and they're gonna go win four straight, I got news
(06:05):
for him. Look, I know it's not over. And Kevin Duran, Kyrie,
give you a chance. I think this thing is a
route we said last week we we picked Brooklyn, both
of us picked Brooklyn. We were wrong. And part of
it is, look, I mean, you know, Katie looking a
little bit older. Um Kyrie obviously had that great game
(06:27):
one and has not been able to capitalize on it since.
But I think what it speaks to Jason, you know,
you you counter tonight with what happened last night where
both uh Phoenix and Milwaukee are down a very crucial player,
uh Devin brook Booker, maybe a top ten player in
the league, Chris Middleton, All Star, all that stuff. They
have other guys that are able to step up. And
(06:48):
so I know we're kind of going around in circles
and kind of talking about the same thing. I do
think it's important, and I do think it's interesting that,
you know, we kind of had this structure and system
in in the NBA for fifty years of the GM
picks players, the coach coaches players, and the players play.
And I'm this isn't like a you know, uh shut
up in dribble segment. That's not what I'm trying to
(07:09):
do here. But what I am saying is it is
interesting because the teams that have been built more traditionally
they're the ones that can overcome either a bad night
from one of their superstars or just there there's there's
star guys not being available at all. You know, you
brought up the Golden State Warriors a minute ago. Steph
Curry was out for a month coming off the bench. Now,
as you said, Jordan Pool stepping up last night. Obviously
(07:30):
Chris Paul is aging, but he steps up in the
place of Devin Booker DeAndre Aton as well. Where that
superstars out, you have other guys stepping up. Same with Milwaukee,
and so I do think this is over for Brooklyn,
and I do think there's gonna be some tough reevaluations
in the off season. To your point, everybody's gonna claim, well,
you know, what would this series have been like if
(07:51):
Ben Simmons was available? I mean, you know we I
think you and I feel the same way because we
talked about it last week. Ben Simmons is an incredible
talent that all so has not played in a calendar
year at this point. And so yes, I don't know
what he would have been like, what this team would
have been like if Ben Simmons was at full strength
and in stride. But to your point. You can't just say, well,
(08:12):
they didn't have Ben Simmons, and who really knows how
this series would have gone. You can't bring a guy
back in the middle of a playoff series and expect
him to win. Brooklyn's back against the Wall. Now down
three oh or oh three, depending on how you look
at it to the Boston Celtics after this evening. Look
if it had been to one, I still don't know
that I wanted to see Ben Simmons come back because
I don't know what kind of synergy, what kind of
(08:33):
cohesiveness they're going to have. I don't know what they've
been doing in practice. But it's not like I just
assumed Ben Simmons gonna step on the floor and now
was just gonna make them some kind of juggernaut. I
think that was gonna take some serious time. I mean,
you've got some seriously volatile personalities and some guys that
sometimes get all up in their feelings. And I'm talking Simmons,
I'm talking to rant I'm talking Kyrie. That thing could
(08:56):
have exploded real dagon quick, you know what I'm saying, Like, yes,
if he comes back in game four, great, I would
shut him down right now. I would not put him
on the floor because I would not want people to
see how ragged I think Game four is gonna look
four Ben Simmons in a three in an oh three
hole when it just watch him Durin at the end
(09:18):
of the game, the way he was trying to go
one on one when they didn't have any time, and
he should have just pulled up from three. It's not
like anybody's gonna block his three. I don't think it's
ever happened in the history of basketball. I don't think
it ever could happen. I'm not so sure. Kevin Durant
is not ready to take this one to the house
this year. Like when when he when he just looked
at him seven down, we're not gonna win this game.
I I mean, he's a competitor, and he's a two
(09:40):
time champion, and I know what a stud he is.
He just looks like he's checked out right now. It's like,
you know what, this was not our year. This is
not quite gone the way I thought it was going
to the last couple of seasons. I think I'm ready
to go to the house. Well, and that's my thought
on this kind of thought in general about the Brooklyn
nets Is like, I think there's this, you know, idea
Kyrie was out because of the COVID stuff. Well, first
(10:02):
of all, Kyrie has I I can't remember a year
where he was really available all season long. I'm sure
there were times early in his career, but this is
a guy that historically has always missed games regardless of
the circumstances. Situation, um, you know, and so obviously what's
his future. Ben Simmons to your point, and that's another
one that people keep bringing up, Well, you know, I mean,
(10:24):
all he's gotta do is come in and play defense
and defend and he doesn't have to score, and it's
this thought of, you know, he's just gonna be like
the greatest role player ever. My thing is also with
Ben Simmons, though it's exactly what you said. These three
are emotional guys. They're volatile guys. And the one thing
I will defend Kevin Durant to his death on that
guy loves to hoop. That guy loves the ball. I've
(10:44):
said it on this show many times. You know, that
was the last guy that should have gone to the
Olympics last summer, coming off of an achilles injury and
he said, I want to go. I want to represent
Team USA. I want to win gold. I love to hoop.
What's gonna happen when Ben Simmons comes back? And oh,
by the way, uh, he's afraid to shoot, literally afraid
to shoot in the clutch. What happens when he's airballing
(11:07):
free throws? And so, you know, I think this is
you know, it's so great being on air at this
time for this reason, Jason. We're the first guys and
girls to get to react to this, to these big
moments in sports. And it's not just down three. Oh,
it's not just well, the Celtics got hot and they've
been playing good the second half of the season. No,
I think this organization as a whole is fundamentally flawed.
(11:31):
And I don't think this is something that's going to
be fixed into the off season. And then magically Brooklyn
comes back next year and they're as good as Boston.
They're as good as Milwaukee, who are deeper, younger, more
cohesive than this organization is right now. I mean, Miami
is better, right and teams right now that are better
than Brooklyn. And I agree with you, Kevin Durant is
(11:51):
an ultimate hoopster ultimate baller. He wants to be out there.
I don't think he wants to be out there for
Game four. I don't think he cares anymore about this
this season. I think he's dejected right now. I think
he just looks at this and doesn't think that they've
got a shot the way that he thought that they
were going to. But this is the second time, at
least I think it's the second. It's the second time
(12:12):
since they've had this uniform change and moved to Brooklyn
for sure, where they've tried to buy a championship and
it hasn't happened. Where they brought in, you know, Paul
Pierce and Kevin Garnett and that didn't work out. Now
it's Kevin Durant, Kyrie and James Harden and Hardens out
of town and Kyrie can't play home games and Kevin
Durant missing three and a half weeks. They don't make it.
(12:32):
They haven't made an NBA finals. They make an NBA
finals last year. They were the betting favorite going into
this season. I don't think they're getting out of the
first round. I'm not so sure they're not actually gonna
be They're gonna be able to avoid the sweep and
this thing is not gonna be four. Oh, like that's
a disaster. Like you're bringing k D and Kyrie on
the floor. You think, all right, well, there should be
(12:52):
people crawling over broken glass to want to join this team,
even take less money to do it, and it has
not worked out that way. It's not like they haven't
brought in some big name guys alongside them that have
contributed at times. But you look at Boston and you've
got to eventually start credit. First off, Tatums a superstar.
But that's a team that seems to like playing with
(13:13):
each other. That's a team that complements each other incredibly well.
I mean when you can bring in Grant Williams and
Williams just out there playing defense, getting you a few rebounds,
doing smart things. Not a guy's gonna go out there
and shoot a lot, but he went three for seven,
had seven points. He's gonna come in and give you minutes.
But everybody compliments everybody else, and they're all goal oriented
(13:36):
towards making it really annoying to play against them because
of the way they do the little things right. They're
a well coached team, but I think they are a
well orchestrated, well put together, well structured roster that is
very very dangerous right now. Well, and it goes back
to what I said, and we'll wrap on this for
for the moment being, but it goes back to exactly
(13:57):
what I just said. Is the idea that you know,
they were put together as exactly as you said, Jason
by you know, a front office that had a vision,
that had a plan, that realized they drafted really good
players in back to back years and Jalen Brown and
Jason Tatum and we gotta put complimentary pieces around him.
They are a team that clearly over the second half
of the season into the playoffs is bought into ima
(14:19):
A Doka and everything that he's doing as the head coach.
And they are the team that is now up three
oh after tonight. Coming up, we bring in Kurt Healing
from Pro Basketball Talk, one of the best minds in
the NBA. He's gonna talk to us about this game,
all the other series going on. Kurt Healing coming up,
Aara Torres, Jason Martin, this is Fox Sports Tradio. Hey,
(14:40):
what's up, everybody, It's me. Three time Pro Bowlttle Warrington,
and I couldn't be more excited to announce a new
podcast called Up on Game. What is Up on Game?
You asked, along with my fellow pro bowler t J.
Hushman Zada and Super Bowl champion Plexico Burris. You can
only name a show with that type of talent on it.
(15:01):
Up on Game We're going to be sharing our real
life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen to Up on
Game with Me, LaVar Arrington, t J. Hutchman's Outa and
Plexico Birds on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast
or wherever you get your podcast from. Welcome back everybody,
(15:22):
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Eric Torres, Jason Martin
here Saturday Night, Kurt Healing from Pro Basketball Talk to
be joining us about five six minutes from now. Jason,
we just got under way here the fourth game of
the day, as the Sacre told us to lead the show,
Minnesota and Memphis. Memphis, of course, is up two to
one in the series. Memphis is up fourteen to ten
(15:45):
early in this one wild series. But I'll tell you
this from an entertainment standpoint and from a going back
to the first segment, the NBA is in good shape
with young guys that we're gonna want to watch the
next ten years. Elements of it. Yeah, Anthony Edwards. I
know Karl Anthony town struggle the other night, but he's
a very talented player. This has been a very fun
(16:06):
series to watch. Memphis in Minnesota, which is just underway
early in the first quarter there. Yeah, and we said
this last week. These are two young teams with studs
that have been built properly, that are we're watching the
future in the present, and once Devin Booker went down,
maybe we're watching something more like we need to pay
attention like Golden State. Obviously UM is going to be
(16:30):
heard from what they're doing needs to be noted. But
this Memphis team is a two seed who has a
superstar that looks to have that killer in them, and
that's something that you've got to have. And there aren't
a whole lot of those guys. There's a lot of
great players, but dudes that walk around a little bit
of swag. I mean, joh said I'm disrespectful Thursday after
(16:54):
they had to come back there in in game three
and he was going right after Karl Anthony Towns because
Kat was out there with the red wine and so
Jock kind of put it to them after they came
back from twenty six down and twenty down and that
was a tough one. This is one Minnesota's gotta have.
Obviously they're not coming back from three one down. But
these are two teams with a lot of guys to like.
(17:16):
It's up and down basketball. It's a little bit chippy.
These two teams are talking a good bit back and forth.
There's some irritants on each side. I like it. This
is this is what you want? Is there two playoff
teams where you're watching them grow up right before your
very eyes. You mentioned Memphis, um, you know, and you
mentioned a minute ago the Phoenix Suns. Obviously Devin Booker's
out for a little bit of time here, Phoenix up
(17:38):
to one in their own series. Obviously, you know they're
teams that wouldn't necessarily meet right away. How far do
you think, like, like, what is the ceiling for Memphis
this year? Because uh, you know, they're they're they're young,
they're dynamic, they're talented. As it looks as though Anthony
Edwards uh limping pretty good. I didn't see what happened.
Maybe we can get with the sager a little bit
early here. In a minute or two, Anthony Edwards down own,
(18:00):
Anthony Edwards limping out. He is kind of putting weight
on both legs, so I'm hoping it's a a knee
or ankle twist, nothing too serious. I don't know if
you saw that, Jason, But um, we'll get an update
on Edwards in a minute. But with Memphis, are they
a finals contender? Are they just a good story that's
another year or two away. They would obviously play Golden
(18:20):
State in the next round should they advance, And obviously
Golden State, you know, obviously has you know, uh, you know,
game a game to win here as well, but do
you believe that this is a team that can beat
Golden State? Is the ceiling the second round and then
start getting ready for next year? Looks like Anthony Edwards
by the way, I don't mean to keep changing the
subject here. It looks like he just non contact. I
don't know if he landed funny or twisted something. But
(18:43):
we'll get We'll get an update on Edwards and in
a minute. What what what is the ceiling from Memphis?
I guess I've I've danced around enough. What is the
ceiling from Memphis in this playoffs. Um, I didn't think
whoever won this series was a finals contender this year
because that's just generally not how it works in the NBA.
You really have to build up step by step. That said,
(19:04):
I mean, think about the teams that are that they're
gonna see in the West and who is out there
right at Golden State. That's a tough matchup. But do
I think Memphis can beat Utah if they get through
this series? Yeah? Do I think Memphis can beat Dallas
if they get through this series? Absolutely? Phoenix. Look, Phoenix
is finding ways to win. They won last year when
(19:25):
Chris Paul got hurt. This year, they've got Devin Booker out,
They've got a lot of stars on the team in
terms of just guys that do what you want a
basketball player to do. That will be a tough one.
Do I think they could go toe to toe with anybody? Yes.
I feel like they're a little further along than is Minnesota.
I think they're more dangerous than is Minnesota. But Memphis
(19:49):
is playing with this swag and this confidence that you
can't help. But notice you don't see it very often
from young basketball teams like this and it's relatively in
press it as you continue to watch it, I want
to see what happens when you're playing against the team
with more experience. Is the moment too large then? Right
now it appears not to be too large for Memphis,
(20:11):
so I don't I don't think there's any reason to
think they can't make a deep run. This is Fox
Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Kurt Healing from Pro Basketball Talk.
I think he's really one of the sharper guys covering
in the NBA right now. He will be joining us
here momentarily react to obviously Memphis, Minnesota and the big
one tonight, Boston beating Brooklyn to go down to go
(20:32):
up three oh, Brooklyn down three Oh. For all that
and more updates coming. I'm trimpling on my own words here,
but we're gonna bring in Steve to Seger to say
take the mike for me. I don't know what's going
on right now, but it's nice to have you. How
you doing to Sagre, Hello, gentlemen, and you mentioned the
injury just happened in Minnesota. Anthony Edwards, who was dribbling
up the floor non contact injury, stopped about mid court
(20:54):
and grabbed his right knee and wound up being assisted
limping off the floor. Did not look hood. We've got
about five minutes to go. First quarter of this playoff
game at Minnesota and Memphis leads nineteen fifteen for the Grizzlies.
Desmond Bane four four, shooting eleven points so far for
the moment. The Grizzlies lead this first round series two
games to one. Boston, the two seed in the East,
(21:16):
one at Brooklyn one oh nine, one oh three to
take a three games to none lead. Jason Tatum thirty
nine points. Utah's tied two games apiece after edging Dallas
one to ninety nine. Rudy Gobert with a key dunk
with eleven seconds to go, seventeen points fifteen rebounds for him,
and Jordan Clarkson scored twenty five points off the bench.
Toronto still alive after finally beating Philadelphia one ten to
(21:39):
one oh two. The Sixers lead that series three games
to one. Now James Harden and defeat five of seventeen
from the floor twenty two points, nine assists. Toronto Scottie
Barnes won the Rookie of the Year award, getting forty
eight first place votes to forty three for Evan Mobley
of Cleveland. Miami guard Kyle Lowry with a strain hamstring,
it's questionable for tomorrow night's game forward. Atlanta Hawks center
(22:01):
Clint Capella now questionable for that contest after his hyper
extended knee. The NFL Draft starts this Thursday night in
Las Vegas, with full coverage here on Fox Sports Radio.
There is a game on FS one from the U
s FL tonight Houston at Birmingham and about a minute
to go and looks like Burniha's taking a knee to win.
(22:22):
Thirty three to twenty eight would be the final. As
for NASCAR on Fox TV tomorrow, the race will be
at Talladega three pm Eastern time. Noah Gregson one. Today's
Exfinity Race two. Major League Baseball at Tampa Bay. The
race through nine no hit innings against Boston, using six pictures,
eventually in ten in a comeback win, Tampa beat Boston
(22:43):
three to two. Yankees in San Francisco each one again,
Cubs twenty one, Pittsburgh nothing, and Detroit split a double
header at home against Colorado, taking the opener thirteen to nothing.
As the Tigers Miguel Cabrera recorded career hit number three thousand.
Minnesota sent the White Sox to a sixth straight loss,
nine to two. St. Louis sent the Reds to an
(23:04):
eleventh straight loss, five to nothing. Texas and Milwaukee with wins.
The game on FS one at Minnesota went to the Twins.
There was also a Toronto at Houston game tonight. George
Springer of the Blue Jays homeward in his first to
beat against his old team, and Toronto won three two
at Houston, in part because of that leadoff home run
to the eighth inning. The Marlins lead at Atlanta nine
(23:25):
to seven. The Mets have an eleven and four record,
but they're losing in Arizona tonight, Diamondbacks four two in
the lead, bottom of the sixth, and in the sixth.
At San Diego, it's the Padres to nothing over the Dodgers.
Back to you, Thank you, Steve Disager. This is Fox
Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Busy Saturday Night. As the
Sager told you, the big story. Brooklyn falls down oh
(23:47):
three to the Boston Celtics. Their backs are up against
the wall. Here to talk about it all. You can
follow him on Twitter at Basketball Talk Rights for Pro
Basketball Talk, NBC Sports. Really one of these deep, great
great minds and writers in the NBA. Kurt Healing is
joining Uskurt. How you doing tonight? I'm doing good. Thanks
for having me on, guys, so real quick, Let's just
(24:08):
get to the story of the night. Uh, Brooklyn Boston
on top of just being down oh three? Is this
like the changing of the guard in terms of of
how teams are built and and I just feel like
the Lakers being out, Brooklyn being down oh three? You
got meanwhile, Phoenix looking good, Milwaukee looking good overcoming injuries.
(24:31):
Is this kind of the end of that Let's just
get superstars and figure out the rest era of the
NBA when we have again, whether it's Golden State, Memphis, Phoenix, Milwaukee,
all thriving based on mostly teams that were built through
the draft. I think that younger players have the sense
and as is somewhat the the ideal, right, like, Hey,
(24:55):
I'm gonna stay here. I'm gonna give you a chance
as long as you keep putting good players in positions
around me. I'm going to give it a chance to
work here and stick with it and work on myself
and my game. Eventually, maybe they'll come a point. I don't.
I don't think nowhere is ever dead. I imagine that
at some point there'll be players teaming up again. But
(25:16):
I think younger players like the idea of something more
organic that they can grow with. If you look at
the guys in Memphis, I think they want to grow
together and win together. I think you see that with
Tatum and Brown in Boston, and you certainly you know
there's other spots as well, like like Jana Center to Coople.
Like I said, it's kind of the model, like hey,
I stuck it out with are ring Man, like you
(25:38):
can win this way. So I think that younger players
like that idea. I think that that's it seems to
be something of the generation. A bad matchup situation for
Brooklyn or Kurt. Is there something functionally wrong with the
construction of the Nets roster. They need more athleticism, more depth,
(25:58):
more defense. Right now. The problem is and and Ben Simmons,
by the way, does not solve this problem. There's two
nonshooters out there at all times, like they missed Joe
Harris something fierce like right now I can yes, look,
I want to give Jason Tatum all the credit in
the world for what has been an excellent defensive effort
(26:19):
on on Um Kevin Durant all series. But I can
they can bring help from all sorts of angles and
do stuff because there's just guys they can leave, and
they've got to rework that roster a little bit, get
more shooting, sort of like the Lake. Look looking back
to the Over the Lakers won the title. They had
Lebron and Davis, but they had other guys around them
(26:40):
who could knock down shots and defend, and the Lakers thought,
you know, hey, that worked, we should get away from it.
For some reason, the Nets need to go to something
a little more like that, especially even with Ben Simmons
back next year. Like Ben Simmons can bring a lot
of things, but they've got to surround them with the
right guys and and then keep those guys healthy. I
deally so with Boston going up three oh, I think
(27:02):
we'd all agree that, you know, they look better than
we anticipated, you know, certainly being up three oh. Obviously,
you know. Look, Milwaukee's kind of in a weird spot
with Chris Middleton banged up, Devin Booker's out, Golden State
is thriving, has one team two teams seem to have
separated themselves. In your opinion, is this as wide open
as it feels because it feels like there's four or
five six teams that maybe not six, but four five
(27:24):
that at the end of the season could be holding
up that Larry Bryan Trophy. It has opened up. I
think the injuries do matter. Hamstrings with Devin Booker that
those are risky man. Like you guys know from what
everybody listening knows from every sport they've ever watched. Those
are the injuries where you think you're fine, right, like
teck a jog in a straight line and that's painless
(27:45):
and whatever, and then you make one explosive cut during
a game and we've all done it. Frankly, I've done
it and pick up basketball. Every pleas done it. You're like,
I'm fine, I'm back af there. Oh that was a mistake. Like,
so we'll see what you get out of him, because
like they'll be fine in this first round against if
you if you're the Sons, you're gonna get by New Orleans.
(28:07):
It won't be easy. You're gonna have to work for it,
but you can get by New Orleans. You get that
second round game series and Dallas plays good defense, donches
back as of today, Like, it's not gonna be easy
without Booker. You're gonna need that scoring. And I think
that's these things kind of things, like you said, it
just kind of opens up. I thought the Bucks would
be the team I trust the most in the East.
(28:28):
But if they don't have their second best player, who's
a but he's kind of like it's Chris Middleton. Dude's
an Olympian, just won a championship and a gold medal
in the last year. They need him. He's also the
guy they lean on in the half court in the
last minute, like they need him. Boston is playing really well.
They just get Robert Williams back, which was kind of
the question around them, Like I think Boston might be
(28:50):
the team out of the East. And speaking of the
East current, Miami just doesn't get talked about it. Yeah,
they really don't. I Mean, there's a lot of other
teams that seem flash here, that have young studs and
stars that are marketable and all this other kind of stuff. Meanwhile,
Miami just plays rock solid basketball right exactly, and what
(29:12):
they need to work and and then they'll get tested
more in the next round and beyond you know against Philadelphia,
and then beyond is can they keep this up in
the half court because they need bubble Jimmy Butler, who
they got the other night, right at the forty five
point night. They don't have, especially with Kyle Lowry now
(29:32):
banged up. And we'll see how long, you know, how
long that ends up being. They don't have a lot
of great shot half court shot creators. It's Tyler Hero
who you can put out there and he'll get you buckets.
But he's becomes a target on the other end, and
in that second round again, the second round of Beyond,
that becomes a problem. I still think, though, man, if
Jimmy Butler is playing well and you've got them out
(29:54):
of Bio who can switch on to anything, and frankly
probably would have been my Defensive Player of the Year
vote if he had missed. He only played fifty something games. Um,
that's a really good, dangerous team too. And I think
that we I'm with you, I think we kind of
sleep on them because we're like, oh, look at Boston.
They're beating they're beating Brooklyn and making it look good
and like, yeah, Ami, Miami doesn't beat themselves, man, and
(30:17):
you're gonna have to go in there and beat them.
Kurt Healing joining us. You can follow him on Twitter
at Basketball Talk Rights for NBC Sports dot com. Kurt,
you know one of the earlier games that that Jason
and I really haven't had a chance to touch on yet,
Philly falling to Toronto. Obviously, Philly is still up three one,
but obviously Joe l Embiad hits that buzzer beater or
(30:38):
the other night it could easily be too too kind
of another guy from that that kind of Katie getting
older era, James hard another disappointing night five of seventeen
from the Field, two of eight from three. I know
we got to the fall line eleven times and he
is setting up other guys. Am I overreacting or does
it feel like James Harden? I don't know if he
kind of feels like he's getting into this other stage
(31:00):
each of his career where he's maybe more facilitator creator.
He's really struggled shooting the ball in this series he
has and what's gone from him all season long is
he just doesn't blow by guys anymore. And and I
don't know if that's the fact that he's on the
wrong side of thirty and has burned the candle at
(31:20):
both ends for a few years. And he's just not
that guy anymore because he's just all season long he's
not sizing guys up. I mean, peek Houston, James Harden
sized guys up and then like yeah, yeah, everybody got
annoyed with all the you know, like it was a
parade to the free throw line, but he got that's
because he got to the line and he had to
foul him and then he's so strong he finished through it. Anyway,
(31:44):
that guy's in Tony's doing step backs, he's not driving
the same way. It's put a lot more pressure on him.
Be They've been lucky because Tyres Maxie kind of fills
that driving role right now. But I'm not sure how
that's going to play out again. Next round you get
Miami where they're just five guys on that I mean's
not putting somebody out there that's weak. Like all five
(32:05):
guys can play. All five guys have a skill and
if if Harden is exposable, they will expose it. That
is a well coached team. Um, we'll see how it goes.
I don't I'm not as sold on Philly just because
I think that they've had a good matchup and they
look they played better. Move for they played better than
I expected. I thought they'd be in trouble against Toronto.
They have surprised me. But I think Miami's is tougher matchup.
(32:28):
He's Kurt Healing. You can follow him on Twitter at
Basketball Talk. Make sure you're reading him at NBC sports
dot com slash n B A Kurt, we know it's
a very busy night. We genuinely appreciate the time and
appreciate the insight. Thank you for joining us, my man,
No problem, guys anytime. But next time you got on
we can we can talk about my Russell Westbrook for
m v P VOT be good. Okay, that's what we
(32:49):
call ts in the business. Yeah, we're definely getting that
only alright, Kurt Kurt Healen NBC Sports dot Com slash NBA,
following on Twitter at Basketball Talk. A lot of its
stuff from Kurt. There a lot to react to. Also
to other games. As we said, Philly, Toronto, Utah, Dallas.
We'll get into both of those when we come back
erin tours. Jason Martin, this is Fox Sports Radio. Welcome
(33:11):
back everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday erin towards
Jason Martin here Saturday Night. By the way, you want
to tweeting in the show. We got some good tweets
early on at Aaron Underscore Tours on Twitter at j
mart Radio Jason. Two other games today that we really
haven't hit on. We just talked a little bit with
Kurt Healing from Pro Basketball Talk. If you missed that,
(33:32):
you can go back and check out the podcast. But
Toronto beats Philly one ten, one oh two. The thing
that's interesting to me about this one is Philly is
up three one, yes, but needed a buzzer beater in
overtime to win Game three. James Harden, as we discussed,
you know, we discussed it last week. He was very
good facilitating, but in terms of getting buckets and getting
(33:54):
the points that you need and you expect from him
when you're you know, when you're playing, when you're paying
him as a forty plus million dollar player, Uh, five
of seventeen from the field, two of eight from the
field or two from eight from three excuse me, twenty
two points in this game. This is really about the
third game of four where he's really struggled offensively shooting
(34:14):
the ball. Um, you know, I mean, listen, you you
trade Ben Simmons. I understand it was an untenable situation.
You gotta get rid of him. But you you, you
think you're getting you know, twenty sixteen, seventeen thirty points
a game. James Harden, Kurt Kurt Hellen and the two
of us just talked about it. I think he just
might be at a different point in his career where
where you cannot count on him to get you thirty
(34:36):
thirty thirty five points a game anymore. And if that's
the case, Philly, if they're not gonna be out, probably
they'll probably survive this round, but probably not gonna survive
Miami in the next round. Yeah, Aaron, he is a
guy that can do that, but he's not gonna be
able to do it consistently anymore. And I think that's
the difference. And I don't know if you thought you
were getting that James Harden. I think if that James
(34:58):
Harden still existed, he'd still be playing in Brooklyn because
they wouldn't have wanted to get rid of him. I
think there is some part about the attitude and the
mix and some of those things that weren't computing particularly
well in Brooklyn. But if Harden were still the Harden
of Houston when he was, when he was putting up
fifty point games sometimes, and he could just take a
game over in a regular season, I think you could
(35:20):
find a way to try to make that work. This
guy who's not in the best of shape, he never is,
and at times he can be very aloof and sort
of strange in the way that he approaches it. I
do think you're right. I just think we're in the
phase where we've seen the best James Harden, and it
was in the Houston uniform. It wasn't the one in Brooklyn.
It's not the one in Philadelphia. It's not wherever he
(35:42):
ends up, if he stays in Philadelphia for the rest
of his career or whatever. That guy that we saw
in Houston, the one that could score from anywhere and
was as lethal as you would ever find, was able
to get to the free throw line steemingly at will, and,
as Kurt Healand said in that last segment, used to
be able to blow by pe Pool even when he
wasn't in elite shape. He was still able to blow
(36:03):
past people and get to the rim, and he's not
able to do that consistently anymore. That that guy's not
here anymore. That guy hasn't been here for three years,
probably at least somewhere in that neighborhood. So you were
getting the declining veteran, you're getting the twilight years. Potentially,
now you're get you're getting the end much closer to
the end, at least than the beginning. Game one, he
(36:25):
was six of seventeen from the field, finished with twenty
two points, but six of seventeen from the field. Game
to three of nine from the field. Today, five of
seventeen from the field. Game three, he was pretty good. Uh,
seven to thirteen from the field. Excuse me, So you're
talking about really three out of four games, uh, in
these playoffs that he has not been that dude, he
has not been efficient offensively. Really quick, I think I
(36:47):
know where you're going with this because he asked her
about Miami. But I look at Miami. I look at
the way that they're defending. Um, you know Trey Young
in that series, and I know Atlanta was able to
get the win last night, but they're throwing all these
bodies at Trey, P J. Tucker, Jimmy Butler, guys like that.
Is it safe to assume that, even if Philly survives
this round, you do not like them in a potential
(37:07):
matchup in round two against against Miami. No, I don't,
because I mean as much as I like him Bead
and I think Maxi is definitely emerging right now. Even
though he averaged eighteen points the regular season. He's been
playing really well here. If Harden is gonna play this
way and be this inconsistent, I can't see them beating
a Miami team that, as you said, and as Kurt
(37:29):
Healin just said, might have been the defensive player of
the year in Bam at a BAIO had he not
missed as much time as he did. I think this
might be a hot take. I don't really think that
it is. I think Spoilster is the best coach in
the league. Sure, I think Rik Spoelstra didn't get any
credit when Lebron was there because Lebron was there. But
(37:51):
Spoelstra has been good for a long time. He's an
excellent coach. We're seeing that coaching matters a little bit
in the NBA right now. We're starting to see that
across the league. I think Miami is very not not
only the dangerous. I mean they're the one seed, but
they're a team that that does everything. And them in
Boston right now, to me look like the two teams
(38:14):
that have championship medal in the well obviously Milwaukee as well.
Those three teams to me are on a different plane
than everybody else in the East. Yeah, SPO, First of all,
I don't think it's a hot take at all. I
should mention, by the way, I for I keep forgetting
to mention, Anthony Edwards is back in this game. He yeah,
he limped off for people who missed it, uh or
middle of the first quarter or so, but he was
(38:35):
putting weight on both of his legs as he walked
off into the locker room. He's been back in this
game through a couple throw down, a couple of really
nice dunks. Very clear that he is he is okay.
But uh, you know, with Miami, first of all, I
don't think it's a hot take to say that, SPO.
You know, maybe he's the best coach in the league,
or is the best coach in the league obviously. You know,
Brad Stevens has gone. Greg Popovich is uh, you know,
(38:56):
getting a little long in the tooth and really has
frankly struggled since why Leonard left. I don't think it's
a stretch at all. I mean it's easy to forget
and I know we kind of poop poo everything that
happened in the bubble. But that was the team that
made the finals in the bubble, took care of Milwaukee
in round two. I believe it was uh And that
was the year Milwaukee had a one seed. That was
the year yannest one and m v P and they
largely shut them down. So I'm a hundred percent with
(39:18):
you is. I actually like Miami a lot, and they're
just one of those teams because they don't have one
of these really dynamic superstars. They don't have one of
these really dynamic young players like Anthony Edwards or John
Moran either. I think they do get a little bit
lost in the shuffle. But great, great coaching, uh and
and a deep, deep, deep team, really quick uh Utah
(39:40):
at home must win. They were down to one, they
beat uh they beat Dallas. Any quick quick thoughts bucket
basically with ten seconds or so left by Rudy Gobert
from Donovan Mitchell. Any big picture thoughts on this one
is Luca don Che's returns. These are just two teams
that I don't think you're going anywhere. There are two
teams with good stars and all stars, bunch of Donovan
(40:00):
Mitchell Gobert, guys that you like, but this just feels
like the Portland Trailblazers to me. It feels like Dame
and c J. Like, man, that's a really nice team,
but I don't see him gooding out of the West.
And I just think you're watching two good teams, but
two teams that aren't built right to win a championship.
They don't have enough surrounding their superstars. Are interesting series
(40:21):
fund series to watching them make much of it. Coming up,
we go to the NFL Deebo Samuel A. J. Brown
Lot to discuss with those two Aeratord, Fox Watch Radio,
Welcome In, Everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday Hour
to errand Tours, Jason Martin In until to a m.
Eastern a lot of NBA over the course of the day,
(40:44):
obviously heading into tomorrow. Four games today, four games tomorrow.
As some of these series frankly might come to an
end uh in the coming days. The big story today,
as Sacer just told you, Boston going up three oh
on the Boston going up three e o on the
Brooklyn nets Uh. And again just a busy, busy, busy day.
(41:05):
The Minnesota Timberwolves up forty two to thirty four against Memphis,
seven fourteen left in the second quarter. So Jason lot
going on in football, by the way, really quick, speaking
of football, Jason, you know where I was today? Right?
Oh gosh, we can't talk about listen, I'm I'm not
saying we can't talk about it. I just I'll just
(41:26):
I'll just say this. You need to talk to somebody,
a therapist, somebody. You need to sit down, you know,
lay on a sofa somewhere and discuss your obsession. You
You and your spring game obsession just proves that you care.
You care to a degree that that quite frankly makes
me uncomfortable. I love college football about as much as
(41:47):
you could love it. I'm not going to spring games,
especially not for schools I didn't attend. Well, let me
say that. So I did go to the USC spring
game today. Um Trojans. The Trojans look great. They and
the only reason I went Jason to be clear, you know,
if you're just why went, because they have the most
dynamic offensive coach in the sport and they have maybe
(42:08):
the most dynamic quarterback in the sport not named Bryce
Young uh All, I'll say we we're not gonna break
it down, but I'll say this a couple of things. One,
it's really cool to have Lincoln Riley there. You could
just tell there's a different energy around the program. Even
the players that were there last year. We're talking about
different energy in in fall camp. I think it's gonna
be great for US man, you know, I mean, you know,
(42:29):
unless unless the bosses feel otherwise. I plan on doing
this show with you in the fall, and you know,
to have those pack twelve games on, I think you know, listen, USC,
we can't get ahead of ourselves. It's it's still a
big rebuild. They went four and eight last year, but
you know, Oregon had their spring game two. They return
a lot off a team that that you know was
was in contention until late and then USC. I just
(42:52):
think it's gonna be good for us, good for the
sport of college football, to have Lincoln Riley there, to
have Caleb Williams there. It was weird seeing Caleb Williams
in that cardon in gold, But I just think it's
gonna be good for the sport, good for our show
here starting at ten pm Eastern time, to have some
of those West Coast games feel feel like they matter
a little bit more. And that was really the only
major takeaways. It's really cool to have buzz around USC,
(43:15):
as you and I talked about during that college football
season last fall when we started working together. Uh, there's
just a vibe about USC and when it's down, it stinks,
and when they're good, college football just feels a little
bit different. That's right. I agree with that. I I
hope they are good and compelling because I do think
I mean, the West Coast needs something and no no
(43:38):
offense to Oregon, but it it ain't enough, like SC
needs to be good. They they do like that's gonna
help college football out tremendously. The part where I I
laughed is when you sent the message talking about how
Caleb Williams looked awesome, and I was just like, it's
spring game, man, I don't that that that analysis. I'm
not here for that analysis yet to us And I
saw J. J. Reddick on TV earlier. Every time I
(44:01):
see J J. Reddick, the only thing I think of
is Aaron Torres. It's so funny you say that now. Literally,
any time that an NBA team goes on like a
cold shooting streak, or anybody has like an eight minute
scoring drought, or just good defense gets played, I'll literally
get tweets like, hey, you watching this Milwaukee Chicago game, like, uh,
(44:21):
defense is really clamping down. Imagine what would happen? And
I'm like, you know, I don't. You know, I don't
really want to go back and forth with with my
buddy JJ, you know, for throughout the course of these
NBA playoffs. But it is funny because I do get
it from both sides. Like when there's an offensive just explosion,
people were like this, you were the guy that said
they don't play defense. Have you seen how good this
(44:43):
offense is? And then on the other side, whenever there's
like a defensive clamp down, low scoring game, I get
it as well. So you know, me and I don't
want to say me and j J are tied an
infamy you know, on on NBA Twitter from now until
the end of time. But you know he's doing big
things I actually saw him on one the calls last
night as well. But it is funny we are we
(45:03):
are tied together. And yes, I was at the USC
spring game today and hopefully, um, you know, they create
some excitement here going into the fall, because as you said,
it would just be good. And the bottom line is,
there's just some programs that matter more and I just
feel like, you know, listen, a big part of the
reason the Pact twelve as a conference has been down
(45:25):
is because USC has not been operating at the level
that it's capable of. No different than if Ohio State
was going foreign like you know USC did last year.
So exciting stuff and that we're also is gonna be
good for US tours because they're gonna be on during
our window, I know, because the West Coast and the
start times and all this. If they're good, that means
we're gonna have compelling or it's gonna be It's gonna
(45:47):
be compelling even if they're not good, because there's gonna
be storylines to discuss because of all the hype and
Lincoln Railway and Cable Williams and all this. But if
they come out and they're competitive and not just competitive
but if I had to predict it right now, I
could see them being an eight win team, maybe a
nine win team. Who knows, maybe Caleb is that special.
But at least they're gonna be interesting. So we're gonna
(46:08):
have some game that's potentially ending late. We're we're we're
on air and it's in the second quarter. And I
am selfishly excited about those possibilities. Absolutely, And yeah, Lincoln
Riley even today talked a lot about, you know, needing
to you know, they're gonna go into the summer, you know,
this spring cycle really look into the portal. They still
don't have a roster that that's you know, he knows
(46:30):
what UH a college football playoff roster looks like. And
and you know, he kind of talked about it a
little bit today that they're not anywhere close. Let's let's
let's get away from spring football. That'll wrap our spring
football coverage for for UH for the for the rest
of the spring. So we'll get to some college football
as the summer ways on. But let's get to the NFL.
You know, the big story this week obviously another wide
(46:52):
receiver unhappy with the contract situations. Obviously a little bit
different than Tyreek Kale, but Deebo Samuel has demanded a trade.
I mean, I got a lot of thoughts on it,
you know, mainly the teams that he could actually end
up with. What was your first reaction where you surprised?
And obviously I think the other story as it pertains
specifically to you, Jason, the link between him and A J.
Brown as both of them really looking for new contracts,
(47:15):
and other Titans have said very publicly they don't plan
on getting rid of A J. Brown. But a busy
week in the NFL, in the wide receiver market, especially
for two young guys, second round picks looking for that
big contract extension. Well, I mean I'm immediately thought, okay,
well this is this is just negotiating tactics, and Tory
Dandy represents both A J and Debot as well as
(47:38):
DK Metcalf as well as some of the other receivers
that have already been paid this offseason. I was just
kind of trying to keep an eye on it and
how it would affect everything else happening. And then I
wanted to know what Debo's reasoning was. And when you
see these reports that it's not as much money as
it is wanting to not be used the way he
(47:59):
was used in San Francisco in terms of not wanting
to be the running back, wide receiver hybrid, which I
get it in terms of longevity because he's taken a
lot more hits. Even as physical as he is, you're
gonna take more shots, your career is potentially gonna be shorter.
You want to just be a wide receiver type. I
get it. But here's the thing that's kind of what
(48:23):
makes him species. It's it's the way that he was
used in the offense that made him so uniquely dangerous.
And if you take that away, not that he's not
a great receiver. He is. He had awesome numbers early
in the year before they really started using him more
in the in the differing roles. But I want to
(48:45):
pay him to do all the things, you know, Like,
I don't want to pay him just to be a
wide receiver because I've seen the other thing, and I
see other teams that want to try to find a
guy that can be their Deebo Samuel because he's different.
Here's what I would say, he doesn't want He doesn't
He also doesn't want to play the hybrid role because
(49:06):
he knows that's less money because the hybrid role involves
running back money and wide receiver money, and you're looking
at it from that perspective. I think what needs to change,
or what somebody needs to fight for, is to be
paid based on their value, not on their position. It
doesn't matter what a bunch of wide receivers are getting paid.
(49:28):
If you are a different kind of player, it doesn't
matter that you also do running back things. If you're
a versatile guy that has sevent value to the offense
of your team or whatever it is, you pay the
guy commensurate with what he can do for you. You You
don't use that And I think that's that's where Debo
right here has an opportunity, potentially, is to reset the
(49:50):
idea that he's a running back slash a wide receiver. No,
he's Deebo Samuel, and you're paying Deebo Samuel because he
has a unique skill set and he can do a
ton of different things for you. But I do think
that's what makes him special, not that he's not a
great player if you take it away, Aaron, but I
want to see him do it all and and if
I'm paying him a dancer want to see him do
(50:12):
it all. Yeah, that that was actually my first thought
as well as you know, you see the report for
me and Rapp report that, um, you know, he doesn't
even want to contract offer from San Francisco. He just
wants out. And two things is one again, that's what
makes him special. I would add, by the way, I'm
looking at the stats right now, he had fifty nine
carries over the course of sixteen games in the regular season.
(50:33):
That's less at four yards per carry for four yards
or four carries per game. Excuse me, so I I
get the idea that because he scored a lot of touchdowns,
it feels like he's used in that running back role
a lot, and he really just isn't. And so one again,
if you're trading for him, a lot of the value
is him out of the backfield, the thread of him
out of the backfield, all that stuff. The other element
(50:55):
of this as well, Jason, that can't be dismissed. Have
you seen the teams that seemed to be most interested
in them, The New York Jets, the Detroit Lions, and
Green Bay Packers. And that's what I mean is the
Green Bay Packers obviously makes sense, we get it. They
need a weapon. Um, I don't think San Francisco, a
team that has played Green Bay several times in the playoffs,
(51:16):
including this year, is trading you to Green Bay. And
so at the end of the day, I'm not. And
by the way, it's not that these guys don't deserve
money and I don't want them to get paid and
all that stuff, But it's like, you know, you don't
want to be used in ways that makes you most effective.
And what is sitting on a pile of cash in
Detroit or with the Jets in a situation where you're
not winning games, you know, you go from Kyle Shanahan.
(51:39):
Let's just use the Jets as an example. I know
there's the Robert Sale element of it. They know each
other from San Francisco, but you go from you from
San Francisco. One of the sharpest offensive minds in the
NFL with Kyle Shanahan. Obviously, the quarterback situations a little
bit uh unique right now with the Trey Lance element
of things and Jimmy g and all that. Or you
could go to New York and end Robert solid defensive
(52:01):
coach Zack Wilson a mess of a quarterback as a
rookie this year, Like, I just don't get it, and
I get again. I get wanting to be paid. We
all want to be paid. And when you're in a
physical sport like that where your prime is limited, I
understand why you want to get paid. But when you
start looking at the teams that you could realistically end
up on, what is the value and all that money
(52:23):
If you're not gonna be used, if you're not gonna
be used in the right way, if you're not gonna
be productive, if you're not around other talented people, and
if you're not with a coach that puts you in
the best position to have success. I understand the money frustration.
I don't understand rushing out the door to get to
the jets of the lines. Let me throw one other
thought out, um, and this is gonna be weird considering
(52:45):
what we've seen from some other receivers this offseason. But
what if Deebo Samuel knows he doesn't have a quarterback?
M what if Deebo Samuel knows Trey Lantain it? What
if he I mean, he's got Jimmy Garoppolo technically right
now who he went to bat for. Remember during the playoffs.
(53:05):
I don't mean to cut you off for people who
feel when there was a lot of Jimmy G slander
from guys like us in the media, not you and
I specifically, but just media people, Deebo publicly on social
media went back to bat for Jimmy G. So that
could be part of it as well. So I just
look at that and I'm just thinking to myself, and
it's again, it sounds weird because you saw a guy
leave Patrick Mahomes and a guy leave Aaron Rodgers. So
(53:27):
guys are wired uniquely. They are making individual decisions all
those kinds of things. But if Deebo Samuel looks at
that situation and says, we can't get this done with
these guys, not with these guys. I like Kyle Shanahan,
I like this offense. I like these guys. I like
Jimmy G personally, but I also know I need a
(53:51):
better quarterback. But the problem there is the teams that
are interested in him also don't have quarterbacks. That's why
they're interested in him. Then here's somebody that can help
them get over the hump. Now, if the Colts wanted
him or something like that, that would make sense, Like
you would go there, and Green Bay does make sense,
but it's it would be easier for me to leave
cause the stink find a reason to get out, talk
(54:13):
about how I'm being utilized in the offense, all those things.
It would be much easier for me to do that,
or to publicly go that route if I looked at
my own quarterbacks and realize they're not good enough and
I want to win a championship. This is Fox Sports
Radio aeron Towards Jason Martin here Saturday night. Coming up,
(54:36):
continue the conversation wide receivers. Want Jason's opinion on a J.
Brown in Tennessee. Anything to worry about there? This is
Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back everybody. Fox Sports Radio eron Torres,
Jason Martin here Saturday night. UH final NBA game in
the day, just got a little chippy. UH Minnesota up
sixty towty fifty four with about six seconds left in
(54:58):
the second quarter. John Moran attacking the basket, hard fouled
by D'Angelo Russell. Jaw was down Momentarily, He's back up,
but it looks like they're they're they're trying to see
if it should be a technical flaker. I want to
flagrant two. Whatever, hard fall on John Morant, but Minnesota
up sixty to fifty four, obviously Memphis up two to
(55:19):
one in this series. Jason, Yeah, it's probably gonna be
flagger on one would be my guess. It wasn't. It
didn't look like it was super agreed. Just to me,
it was it was a playoff foul. Really like watching it,
I don't think he I think he was going for
the ball. Moran's pretty athletic and he ended up catching
a lower morand had the ball higher up and he
just kind of caught him in the face. Just kind
(55:40):
of unfortunate. But these are two teams that it's this is. Look,
we've seen another one of these runs where Minnesota had
a big league and now mythisis cut it down to
six and they're on the seventeen to five run? Are
they and we're almost done with the first half? Second
half is gonna be good? Uh? Yep, Flager one is
the call. It was a hard enough vowl that you
(56:00):
call it a flagrant, But certainly it didn't look like
there was any malice behind it. It was just physical.
I actually agree with that sent him in a hundred
percent hard playoff foul. It was unfortunate because you know,
it's just sometimes you go up and sometimes you're making
a play on the ball and a guy, you know,
something bad happens and job is okay. For the record,
it's not as though jaw was. He was down momentarily,
(56:22):
but he's back up. He's going to the file line
as we close out the first half. There, you know
Jason real quick I mentioned before the break, we just
talked Deebo Samuel and obviously A J. Brown in the
news as well, another second round pick, another guy that's
coming up on what will be the final year of
his rookie contract. What is the buzz in Tennessee right now?
For people don't know Jason is in Nashville. Uh, Jason
(56:42):
does host Monday to Friday down in Nashville. What's been
the buzz this week with A J. Brown? I think
for the most part, people here believe he's staying put.
The general manager John Robinson as well as head coach
Mike Vrabel have both pretty much they've they've gone to
the matt and said we don't want this guy again.
When where A ybel a couple of weeks ago said
as long as I'm a coach. He's not getting traded,
(57:04):
but you never know until he actually is given the
new contract. He wants it right now. These guys, all
these guys that we've been talking about, Debo, Him, d K, mclauren,
all of them are eligible through the current through the
collective Bargaining Agreement to sign extensions. They want to get
paid because they know what their skill set is and
they understand that the actual position of wide receiver has
(57:26):
never been more valuable potentially than it is right now,
especially if you're a young guy that has put up
huge numbers, which all four of those guys have done.
A J we saw the Instagram video with him and Debo,
with Debos I guess a step mom or whoever it was,
and it sounded like the Titans weren't going higher than
twenty million. A J wants more than twentieth season. I
(57:49):
would be surprised if he leaves. D K. I could
see leaving Debo sounds like maybe he could leave McLaurin.
Who knows it's Washington, right, But I would be surprised
if ad J leaves. But at the same time, I
was shocked that Tyree Hill left. I was a little
less shocked, but still surprised that Davante Adams left, especially
(58:12):
considering it happened right after Aaron Rodgers signed, and I
would have thought he never would have signed if he
knew that. But it turns out now he just wanted
to be the highest fade guy, so and he got
his wish and then Davante moved on. So because of
what we have seen, you can't just say it's zero percent,
because if there is some kind of an impasse, and
if Tory and Tory Danny being the agent for all
(58:33):
these guys, I don't know what exactly what game he's
trying to play here. I don't know, Like I know,
he's representing everybody individually, but he also was representing a
class right now. He's representing a class of stud young
wide receivers all looking for their second deal, getting through
their rookie contract and getting paid. And I wonder if
(58:53):
that's even complicating things. Yeah, And I think, first of all,
you know, just following from a distance, not being in
it every day like you I've seen all of the
commentary coming from the Tennessee Titans organization, Um, you know
about you know, we're not letting him go and da
da da on this and that. But also, like you
said a minute ago with with Deebo Samuel, it's a
(59:14):
different deal, right. I mean, obviously the team has had, uh,
you know, number one seed all that stuff, but quarterback
position is set. You could love Ryan Tannehill, you can
hate Ryan Tannehill, but that position is set. You have
a team that is seemingly in position to again make
another run at a division title, a high seed, maybe
make a run towards a super Bowl. As opposed to
(59:34):
Deebo Samuel, where there does feel like there's a little
bit of uncertainty going on in that organization with Trey Lance.
What's the deal with Jimmy Garoppolo. He's still on the
roster all that stuff. So yeah, following it from a distance, Jason,
you know, it just looks like, you know, it just
it seems like a player that again wants to get paid.
I get it. He's a big piece of the success
(59:54):
of the team that they had, but I don't, you know,
from a distance, I don't see the scenario where he's
not part of the Titans next year. Yeah, I think
he's the least likely at least well, and it looks
like DKs alright, staying too, but I thought d K
was the most likely before the Dego thing kind of exploded.
I will say this, Look, the draft is less than
a week away. By the time we're on next week,
(01:00:16):
the draft will be complete, will be completed. I wonder
if one of these wide receivers has a new zip
code and a new jersey by the time we're on
next Saturday, because now is the time to make the
move to offer somebody a top ten, top fifteen picks.
So if you're getting a wide receiver out of it,
they can then draft the replacement because this is the
(01:00:36):
wide receiver draft. Well, you mentioned the draft Thursday Night.
Draft Night. Be sure not to miss Fox Sports Radio's
draft covers throughout the first round next Thursday at eight
pm Eastern, live from the Blagio in Las Vegas. Jay Glazer,
former Vikings, GM, Rick Spielman are very own. LaVar Arrington
and Rob Stone will have you covered throughout the first
round of the draft with pick by pick predictions and
(01:00:57):
reactions to all thirty two first round picks. That's Thursday
at eight pm Eastern, live from Las Vegas. Throughout the
first round of the draft. Listen on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app coming up. We'll dig
into that draft a lot going on between now and Thursday.
Will discuss that next. Before we do, though, let's get
to see with what's training. What's up to Sega guys.
(01:01:18):
It's halftime at Minnesota and the Timberwolves are leading the
two seeds in the West, Memphis sixty to fifty six.
Desmond Bane with twenty one points from three point range.
He is six of seven. Minnesota trying to even this
first round series at two games apiece. Utah is even
at two games apiece after edging Dallas one to ninety nine.
Rudy Gobert with a key dunk with eleven seconds left.
(01:01:41):
He had seventeen points fifteen rebounds. The rest of the
team was only twenty eight of seventy one, shooting from
the floor thirty nine percent, but Utah gets the win.
Gobert on free throws just nine of eighteen, and they
still won by one. The two seed in the East,
Boston is up three games to none after a victory
at Brooklyn one O nine one oh three. Jayson Tatum
(01:02:01):
thirty nine points. He also had six assists, six turnover
six deals as well Toronto still alive after beating Philadelphia
one ten to one oh two. Joel and Beat with
his thumb injury, had twenty one points five turnovers before
the game. Scotty Barnes of the Raptors was named Rookie
of the Year. Here's the voting. Forty eight first place
votes for Barnes, forty three for Evan Mobley of Cleveland.
(01:02:24):
Kate Cunningham of Detroit finished a distant third in the voting.
The NFL Draft does start this Thursday night. Tonight, FS
one had USFL Birmingham at home thirty three twenty eight
winners over Houston. NASCAR's on Fox TV tomorrow from Talladega
three pm Eastern time. Noah Gregson one Today's Xfinity race,
holding off Jeffrey Earnhardt Dale Jr's nephew heater in the poll.
(01:02:47):
In the NHL, Florida wins in overtime three two against Toronto.
The Florida Panthers have won thirteen straight games. Hockey's regular
season ends next Friday night for most teams. Tyson Fury
took his boxing match Inden in front of a huge
crowd over ninety thousand six round t KO against Dillian
white to Major League Baseball. Among the five late games,
(01:03:08):
the Marlins have won at Atlanta nine to seven. The
Diamondbacks have upset the Mets five to two, the Dodgers
have tied it up at San Diego. It's to to
bottom of the eighth now Mike Trout with two home runs. However,
the Orioles now lead at Anaheim five four against the
Angels in the bottom of the seventh, and the Mariners
are holding out five four over the Royals top of
(01:03:28):
the six. Miguel Cabrera with career hit number three thousand.
At Detroit today, the Tigers split a double header with Colorado.
The Cubs shutout Pittsburgh twenty one to nothing. Yankees in
San Francisco, each one again. Tampa Bay through nine no
hit innings against Boston, using six total pitchers. Boston took
the lead top of the tenth, raised one it in
(01:03:49):
the bottom of the tenth three to two, and St.
Louis sent Cincinnati to an eleventh straight loss five nothing.
The Reds in their last eleven games just twenty total scored.
The Cubs had twenty one by themselves today. Just for
the record, Thank you, Steve Sager. This is Fox Sports Radio,
Fox Sports Saturday Busy Saturday Night to say you just
(01:04:12):
catch caught up on the NBA again. NFL Draft starts Thursday.
Fox Sports Radio will be in Vegas. Jay Glazer, Rob Stone,
Rick Spielman, LaVar Arrington will have your covers there. Jason,
we talked a little bit about the draft on the
show last week, and and you know, from the big, bold,
like major headline perspective, Uh, you know, it's it's it's
(01:04:33):
just not what it has been like last year where
there are five quarterbacks taken. So I do want to
go through kind of some of the big storylines going
into Thursday night, though, because the draft is coming and
we're gonna watch and you and I are going to react.
Let me ask you this, first of all, where are
you at on the quarterbacks? We've obviously heard Kenny Pickett,
Malik Willis, uh, Matt Corral We were I think we
(01:04:55):
were on air during that Sugar Bowl when Matt Carroll
went down with the injury and you know he missed
the rest of the game. Do you believe, you know,
just looking at those quarterbacks, do you believe there's a
franchise quarterback in this in this draft? You believe there's
a guy that's gonna go in the top ten. Do
you believe there's a guy that could be one day
competing with the Joe Burrows Justin Herberts, Patrick Mahomes of
(01:05:16):
the world, Or is this uh, you know, I don't know,
get get your backup, or get a guy that's a
feeling like, like, what do you make of the quarterbacks
here at the top of the draft. Here's what's funny.
Two of the three guys that you just mentioned, Justin
Herbert dropped a lot before he was drafted. He went
from being a first pick to coming back to Oregon
to people saying, ah, you can't readly look at it me.
(01:05:37):
He looks locks onto a receiver. And Patrick Mahomes was
a project of a project. Nobody was sure what was
gonna happen. He ended up sitting behind Alex Smith and
and the rest is history. And we know how well
that's gone. So this can be difficult to decide. Could
there be one? Absolutely? Am I betting on it? Not necessarily.
What's interesting to me about it all is I think
(01:06:01):
Matt corral is the guy like the most. Now the
injury concerned is a concern. He plays very physically. He's
not short, but he's been banged up a good bit.
Is that going to be a concern? I like Corral,
I really do pick it to me, is gonna be
just fine. He's probably better than a backup, but less
(01:06:21):
than a superstar Malik Willis. Quite frankly, I just don't
know enough. It's very possible he could turn out to
be a great player in the NFL. I've seen the comparisons.
I've seen some of the names that have been thrown out,
but he's so raw and we haven't seen him against
great competition performed particularly well. So I don't have an
(01:06:43):
answer for you. I don't know. All of them have
red flags. Desertator's got red flags. There's gonna be something somebody.
One of these guys, at least is going to surprise
you in a positive direction. I don't know that any
of them are gonna surprise you in a negative direction
because it's been so sort of mediocre in me since
the very beginning, and how that they've all been slotted.
(01:07:05):
I just think that Corral doesn't get the run I
think he deserves because I think he could be He
could be special if he could stay healthy in my opinion, Well,
that's part of it. And I don't think a lot
of people that you know, if you're not a die hard,
you know, you and I are watching college football Day
Saturday for fifteen sixteen weeks because frankly, it's you know,
(01:07:26):
we enjoy it, but it's also our job. Like, I
don't think people realize what he went through this year,
um where he basically you know, severe high ankle sprain
like week seven, and like Line Kiffin talked about it,
he's like we he didn't like like Matt carl didn't
practice for weeks at a time, like like just basically
(01:07:48):
he he didn't practice so that he would be healthy
enough to go on Saturday and then immediately hurt the
ankle again. And it was just just vicious, vicious cycle,
excuse me, all season long. And so you know, I
I am with you in terms of Matt Correll last
year when he was a little bit healthier, completion percentage
uh ten yards per completion, twenty nine touchdowns to only
(01:08:09):
twenty touchdowns this year. I just think it's a direct
reflection of just not being healthy. So he's the one
that intrigues me, and you know, he's kind of got
a little I hate to make this comparison, but you know,
Johnny Manzel wiggle to him. I mean, he's kind of
a guy that can make plays out of the pocket.
Maybe Zack Wilson is is the better, better store better,
uh comp there, But I'm with you is I'm intrigued
(01:08:32):
to see if you could keep him healthy and you're
gonna be able to get him. You know, I don't
think he's he's a guy that's going in the top ten.
I mean I think he's a guy that's gonna go
in the team's gonna go in the twenties. And I
think he's intriguing. And you know what happens if you
go in the teams you go in the twenties, it's
it's it means that you are not being drafted to
be the face of the franchise. You have to step
in and play right away. So I'm excited about him.
(01:08:55):
You know, picking, I'm curious on because I see both sides.
I do think the upside is is not there of
of a traditional you know, high end quarterback pick. I
understand that if he had been in a previous draft,
you know, like last year. Um, you know, he wouldn't
have been drafted obviously, ahead of Trevor Lawrence, ahead of
Zach Wilson, ahead of Justin Fields, all those guys. You know,
(01:09:16):
I get both sides. He's older, but you know he
really he was pretty solid this year. And if you're
telling me that, you know, he's got some Kirk Cousins
to I mean, we can criticize Kirk Cousins, and we do,
and we should for the money that he makes. Kirk
Cousins want a lot of football games in this league.
And if that's kind of the floor of what you're getting,
and maybe not the floor, but not quite the ceiling either. Again,
(01:09:37):
another guy that's that you could do a lot worse than.
And and I'm you know, I'm curious. I I wouldn't,
you know, bet my my my career on him being
a star. But I could also see him having just
a very nice career where he finds the right spot,
where he gets in the right system, where he isn't
asked to do too much and he has success. Pick it.
The Cousins comparison, I've heard that made a lot. If
(01:09:59):
he turns out to be Kirk Cousins, then he's gonna
help a team. I don't know if that wins you
a super Bowl or not. And I think that probably
is the ceiling is being Kirk Cousins. But Cousins has
made a good bit of money and he's had a
decent career, and I think that's probably what Picket's gonna do.
I don't think Pickin's gonna Picket's gonna wow you, but
I think that Pickett could be solid and that might
(01:10:21):
be all you need if you're a team that has
the right pieces. If he ends up being a Kirk
Cousins or a Ryan Tannehill or somebody like that, you know,
I mean, Ryan Tannehill was just a quarterback in the
number one seed in the a f C. Yeah, he
through three interceptions in the playoff game, but he actually
got him there and he's won a lot of games
in the league. So there are guys like that that
are out there. If he comes in there and he
(01:10:42):
is able to give you, you know, sixty three, sixty
four percent completion percentage, he's not making a ton of mistakes.
The hand size doesn't bite him, he's not fumbling the
ball all over the place the way he did a
pit um. Yeah, he could be he could be decent enough.
I just I don't think you're don't think in this class.
What will shock me is if you get a Josh Allen,
(01:11:04):
a Mahomes, somebody like that out of this class. I
don't really see that. I think Corral Corral could be
very dynamic if he could stay healthy. I'm afraid he's
gonna chase his health his entire career. I hope that's
not the case. But I felt the same way about
two when he entered the league, even though I think
Matt Corral is a better quarterback. Do you believe, like
(01:11:27):
what is the over under in your opinion? Like if
I told you top say twelve, keeping in mind that
the Jets have a couple of early round picks, that
the Giants have a couple of early round first round picks,
that the Texans have a couple of early first round picks.
Some of those teams, you know, obviously the Jets aren't
gonna draft a quarterback. The Texans seem to like Davis Mills.
But obviously there's just moves that could potentially be made.
(01:11:48):
If I said top twelve, will a quarterback go? Do
you think it will get a quarterback in the top
twelve of the draft, you won't get more than one.
I think Carolina is probably the best bet unless they're
gonna do something with Baker, because they would outside those
other guys, like the Jets are not gonna bail on
Zach that fast. The Jets are gonna take a receiver
(01:12:09):
if they don't trade number ten for Deebo Samuel, which
they still could. They have number four and number ten selections.
I just look at the teams that are in that
top level. They're all A lot of them are just
young with quarterback situations. They are already figured out. Could
Seattle surprise you wn take one at nine? Maybe? I
just don't know about reaching in this draft for a quarterback.
(01:12:31):
I I could see, I could see Malik Willis potentially,
because there is a whole lot to potentially like about
what he can do. I don't think Pickett's going six.
I don't think Corral's going six. I don't think des
Ritter is going six. A matter of fact, I think
two of us there, you guys probably don't even go
in the first round. But outside of that pick with Carolina,
I tend to think that's probably the only shot. Because
(01:12:55):
there's been a whole lot of linemen on both sides.
We know this already. It's probably gonna be one linebacker.
Then you're gonna see a couple of receivers right there
around that nine ten range probably, And I just don't
know that the quarterback is gonna fit. This is This
is much closer to that draft twenty five years ago
where Keyshawn went number one overall and there wasn't a
receiver taken until like forty three. This is the part
(01:13:18):
of me a quarterback. No, it's yeah, no, I think,
you know, if i'm you know, if i'm betting, I
think one team over drafts, and I do think a
couple of these guys fall really far. Because there's the
other side of it too, where you know, in the
lead up to the draft, there's there's these guys that like,
you know, we like, oh you know where I'm hearing,
you know, maybe he could sneak in the first round,
(01:13:40):
and then you look up and it's you know, the
back end of the second round and somebody's taking a chance.
And I remember the guy, I remember what that was,
Bryce Petty. I don't know if you remember him out
of Baylor, and it was like a week before the draft,
it was like, you know, I'm hearing some first round
buzz and then it was like third round and he's
coming off the board. So I I would guess one
guy probably sneaks into that top twelve, top tennis area. Uh.
(01:14:01):
And I think, like you said, maybe whether it's a
Desmond Ritter, whether it's a Sam Howell, a couple of
these guys probably fall further than you expect. This is
Fox Sports Radio erran towards Jason Mark coming up. I
do have one other draft related question question which could
reshape the entire draft as we know it. Will discuss that.
Next errantur is Jason Martin. Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, everybody,
(01:14:22):
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday eron Torrest. Jason Martin
here talking about the NFL Draft. Speaking of the draft
Thursday Draft Night. Be sure not to miss Fox Sports
Radio draft covers throughout the first round Thursday, eight pm Eastern,
Live from the Blaggio in Las Vegas. Jay Glazer, former
Vikings GM, Rick Spielman, our very own LaVar Arrington and
(01:14:42):
Rob Stone will have you covered throughout the first round
of the draft with pick by pick predictions and reactions
to all thirty two first round picks. That's this Thursday,
eight pm Eastern, live from Las Vegas. The entire first
round of the draft. Listen on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio app. So, Jason, before the break,
I said, I had a question for you that I
(01:15:04):
think can reshape this entire draft, and it's what you
kind of alluded to earlier in the show. Is that
if Deebo Samuel is going to be traded, if DK
metcalf is potentially on the trade block, will see a
J Brown, maybe some kind of friction happens over the
next three or four or five days. Do you believe
(01:15:25):
that we're gonna get that earth shattering draft Draft day? Um,
you know, draft day trade? Because the way that I
look at it is, you know, if you're the San
Francisco forty Niners and you're going to have to draft
weapons to replace Deebo Samuel to give your next quarterback help,
I think it'd come on Draft night, and I think
it might come early, and I think they might have to, uh,
(01:15:45):
you know, trade into the early part of this this
draft to get the guy that they would want. Do
you expect a trade? Do you think there's a trade
that could potentially happen on draft night. Absolutely think there's
a possibility of it. I don't know if I anticipate it,
because none of these teams have to make this move.
They don't they don't have to do this, so they
don't have to take a discount right now. Even if
(01:16:06):
these assets are somewhat distressed, these assets don't have that
much leverage. They want to go home and sit and
cost themselves game checks or whatever, then then they can
do that. I don't know that if you get down
to it, they're going to that said, are are you
willing to give up if you're the Jets, the tenth pick,
Maybe not the fourth, but are you willing to give
(01:16:26):
up the tenth pick instead of drafting whether it's London
or Williams or whoever it is that you like the
Ohio State receiver that that might be the best of
all of them, whoever it is that you want to
take at ten, would you rather take Debot or would
you rather make the ridiculous offer for a j or
Dcare or whoever it is that you're looking at, And
(01:16:46):
then at that point maybe you do it. You could
do it before because there are wide receivers in this
draft for the teams that give these guys up to
then draft to try and replace them. That that is
what makes it more interesting to me, is because there
is an immediate replacement option there. There are guys in
this draft that we think are gonna be really solid
(01:17:09):
pros at the wide receiver position. But the other thing
is this is a deep receiver draft, which means a
lot of the teams that might be trying to go
get one of these guys might also just take their
chances a bit because they could still get receivers in
the second round or the third round. And that and
(01:17:30):
I don't mean just anybody. I don't mean just dudes
to fill a roster. I mean guys that can really contribute.
There are a lot of really good receivers in this draft,
which can make it easier for one of these teams
to get rid of the stars, but could also make
it harder to unload them because the teams might be
content to try and draft the receiver of the future
instead of bringing in somebody they immediately are going to
(01:17:52):
have to pay. So do I expect it. I don't
know if I'm willing to go on that limb, but
if if it were to happen, especially with it being
debo at this point, I would not be the least
bit surprised. You and I are in lockstep, and I
think that that's kind of my thought as well, is that,
you know, if if you do feel like you had
a trade debo and you do feel like there's a
(01:18:12):
guy you could target, um. You know, I could see
forty the San Francisco being aggressive listen, and they were
aggressive last year to get up to number three to
take Trey Lance um. And if they got to get
rid of debo, Thursday night is the night to do it.
To target the guy that you want at the pick
that you want, in the position that you want. UM.
But I could also see again, you know, a lot
of these teams now it seems as though the Jets
are after star power at the position. Um. You know,
(01:18:35):
the Lions I think are looking for anything positive. But
I don't. I don't think the Lions are giving up
a you know, the number to pick for Deebo Samuel,
So where does that come in? But you know, I
I think that there's so much talent at the wide
receiver position. And I hate to say it, but these
guys are replaceable right. I mean, you know, Tyree Hill,
you know, he's a an incredible talent, but the Chiefs
are gonna still score points next year and Davante Adams.
(01:18:58):
Maybe it's a little bit of a different deal because
of of you know, just the lack of other guys
that they have in Green Bay. But I think it's
just gonna be interesting to watch, and I think that's
going to be kind of the probably the biggest narrative
going into Thursday night outside of who ends up as
the number one pick, Speaking of which I think last
week he said something to the effect that you weren't
as high on uh Aidan Hutchinson as some Uh Yeah,
(01:19:21):
I was gonna say it seems like Aidan Hutchinson Travon
Walker from Georgia's kind of getting some late buzz as
a potential number one overall pick. You gotta feel for
what's gonna happen at number one with Jacksonville, who right
now has the number one pick in the draft. Yeah,
I think they're gonna take Aidan, and I think it's
gonna be a mistake personally. I just I think I
(01:19:44):
think just here's the this is the carassway to say this,
just because he's white, and he can rush the passer
and he played the big ten. Doesn't mean he's j J. Watt.
It doesn't mean he's t J. Watt. It doesn't mean
he's Joey Bosa. It doesn't mean he's Nick Bosa. This
dude against Georgia disappeared. Every team in the NFL is
(01:20:04):
better than Georgia. How is he gonna stack up? I
think he will be exposed. I don't think he's gonna
be a bust. I think it's gonna be average, and
you drafted one not to be average. I would just
say this really quick. You have Trevor Lawrence. You needed
offensive tackle. We'll be back to talk to the NBA.
Fox Sports Radio, Welcome in everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox
(01:20:25):
Sports Saturday, Aaron Torres, Jason Martin here Saturday Night. A
lot going on in the NBA. We're gonna talk about
Brooklyn Boston in a second, but before we do, Jason,
I don't know if you've been on social media all
the last I don't know five minutes or so, but uh,
(01:20:46):
there have been a few instances, and incidents is probably
the right word in Minnesota during these playoffs, as it
pertains to Uh, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glenn Taylor, who apparently
own some bird thing like he owns a chicken farm,
and there was an incident there and the pea people
(01:21:07):
are not happy. So we've had multiple protesters at these
Minnesota Timberwolves games. Uh, you know, just all sorts of
weird stuff that they're doing, gluing themselves to things, changing
themselves to things. Well, early to mid third quarter, something happened.
Here's the sound of it. So what's going on here?
(01:21:27):
Somebody's run out of the floor, goes out of the
front row on the wrong with these people, and there's
somebody else there was trying to go going after tanks here.
Now they're going it's puffle, are insane. Thankfully, everybody aside
from the people protesting, appeared to be okay. So we're
(01:21:48):
not a hundred percent positive yet that it's another protester.
I kind of think it's probably another protester. Jason, have
you seen this video yet? I mean obviously just heard
it's about the one tonight. This was right now, ten
minutes ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was during a commercial
break and I was just like, what the hell it
(01:22:08):
was in the midst of a play and I thought
there was a fight that had broken out on the sideline,
Like I thought it was a player and another player.
I'm like, boy, this has gotten out of control. Then
it turns out no, it's a fan, it's another protester.
And then of course they changed the shot as soon
as they stopped play, And then all we were doing
was staring at Karl Anthony Town's on a close up
(01:22:29):
for like a minute because they weren't gonna show any
more of this. I didn't know about any of the
other stuff that had happened prior, but I was reading
the article that you actually sent me during the last
commercial break. This is uh, this is something else man
and Glenn Taylor. There's shirts that say Glenn Taylor roasts
animals alive, and we all know what Peter is. But
(01:22:53):
this guy apparently has a factory egg farm in Iowa.
According to this article from fanbos direct Action Everywhere, an
animal rights group reported Taylor's farm orchestrated a mass killing
of five point three million chickens due to an avian
flu outbreak. Uh, that's upset this woman. And apparently this
(01:23:16):
woman has a history. Did you see this? I don't
know if you've got to read the entire article that
you sent Aaron. But this woman went on the pictures
mound the Dodgers game in protesting Dodger dogs because the
treatment of the animals. She ran onto the field during
Alabama Clemson nineteen college football and National Tutagram. I was
(01:23:37):
at that game. I was on the sidelines protesting Levi
stadiums ties Like dude, um, this is something else. Like
I literally thought it was the team's getting into a scrap,
and then it turned out it was a woman with
animal rights. It was just like, why are you on
the floor, Like they didn't kill the chickens. Like even
(01:23:58):
if you're angry, uh, I guess you're angry at the
organization or whatever, but the dudes on the floor have
nothing to do with what's happening. Yeah, And I think
there's other way to protest without ending up getting arrested,
which is what's going to happen. I mean, I guess
maybe that's the sign of a cool protest, as if
you end up in jail for a night, But that
stuff stays on your record, and you know, we all
feel bad for the chickens. But like you said, you know,
(01:24:20):
the guys on the floor, have nothing to do with it. Uh,
and all you're gonna do is make a scene. But
another instance of uh of a fan rushing the court.
In this case, it appears as though it appears as
though I don't think we have any official confirmation that
it is another protester. By the way, that was producer
Eric who sent along that article. Um, but yeah, no,
producer Eric said it along. And yes there was a
(01:24:40):
chicken farm birds were killed over the bird flu. Uh.
We had protesters earlier in the playoffs, in the play
in game two, I believe as well. And uh, and
we had another instance. And it appears as though if
you watch the video closely, and if you're not online,
you can find it on on Twitter. If even if
you don't have a Twitter account, it's pretty easy to
just sign in and you'll find it pretty quick. But
(01:25:00):
I think they they got some pretty tight security uh
you know around the floor, because there was a security
guard that was ready to pounce and that he did
as he uh, as he literally tackled the woman to
the floor. Um. Really good form tackling, I must say
as well, Uh, you know, chopped his legs and uh
you know, took it right down to the floor. So
(01:25:21):
that is the incident that just happened in Minnesota. The
Timberwolves are up eighty two, seventy three in that game
with four fifty seven left in the third quarter. Will
keep you updated. Big story though, Jason. Obviously of the evening,
Boston going into Brooklyn, Brooklyn down oh two. You think
they're at home. You think they gotta win this game
to keep their season alive, to keep their series alive.
(01:25:42):
There's buzz that Ben Simmons could come back in Game four,
and if they could just find a way to win tonight,
maybe there's life for them throughout the rest of these playoffs. Instead,
they fall one oh nine, one oh three. Jason Tatum
thirty nine points. Jason Tatum the best player on the floor.
I'll say this. We talked about this a lot in
our one, and I don't want to talk about the
(01:26:03):
Brooklyn element of this, but let's give Jayson tatums of credit.
He was not only the best player on the floor tonight,
he has been the best player in this series with
thirty points in thirty one points in game one, thirty
nine tonight, uh, and Boston's up three l Brooklyn's on
the brink. Uh, Yeah, they're on the brink. They're done. Um,
(01:26:24):
I don't think just watching Durant and these are guys
that don't generally seem like they're happy ever, him and
Kyrie specifically the club. Yeah, exactly. I didn't get there
because I don't. I hope they're just gonna shut this
down if they actually play him on Monday. Can I
ask you a question please, I'm Aaron Aaron. If they
(01:26:45):
if they are already scheduled to play on Monday, why
couldn't he play tonight? If you really wanted Ben Simmons,
you needed him. This is a playoff series. None of
this makes any sense, Like it's been mysterious and weird
and super were off putting now since the move was
made for Ben Simmons and we were on air and
we talked about him in Harden and we we you
(01:27:07):
took up Ben Simmons approach. I took a hardened approach.
It was like both of them haven't worked out particularly well. Uh,
and we kind of guessed that we didn't like either.
We didn't necessarily like it for either side. But if
he could play Monday, and they knew it, and they
were like, we're We're gearing for him to come back
in Game four, and all of a sudden kind of stuff,
why couldn't he play tonight? And if he's not gonna
(01:27:27):
play tonight, why would you even bother playing him on Monday?
So it's really funny. I remember, you know, you and
I were on air during that Duke Carolina, that instant
classic in the Final four, and the following Monday, I
was kind of happened to be in front of a
TV and I had on our buddy Collin Coow heard
Fox Sports Radio, and you know, he talked about the
difference between NBA stars and college stars. Armando bay Coop
(01:27:49):
for North Carolina severely sprains his ankle, comes back in
the game, is asked about it after and he said,
we're trying to win a championship here. Uh, you couldn't.
There's no way could have taken me off the court.
And and Colin compared it to what is going on
in the NBA. And it's a great point, right, It's like,
you know, nobody's and here's the other thing, right on
top of what you just said about, could could he
(01:28:11):
give you a couple of minutes? The whole point of
trading for Ben Simmons was he's the third guy. You
don't need him to be a superstar. And so if
he is one of the best wing defenders in the NBA,
which he is um and you are playing maybe the
great rising star of this league in Jason Tatum, which
he very well might be, Ben Simmons can't give eight, ten, twelve,
(01:28:35):
and we're not asking him to play forty two, play
both ends of the court, uh and and and score
thirty five on the other end. We're just asking him
to to step on the floor, play twelve minutes short, stretches,
a little bit in the second quarter, a little bit
in the fourth quarter. Just take Jayson Tatum for a
few possessions. I think it's a great point by you
(01:28:55):
because if the argument is he's not gonna be ready
until Monday, and we're gonna put this huge burden on him,
well that's a lot different than asking him to just
play a little bit. And the whole point of training
for him was you don't need him to be a superstar.
You just need to play for a little bit, exactly.
I mean, now there's no point like if they play
him Monday, it's it's just gonna be the giant I
roll of giant I rolls. You couldn't put him out
(01:29:17):
there for a couple of minutes, even to shake the rustoff.
I know it's a playoff game, but apparently he's supposed
to help you and be a game changer. That's what
we're being told, That's what we've seen written and talked
about over the last couple of weeks, is what happens
if he gets into the series. Well, how arrogant are
you if you're the Nets and you think you can
bring him in the middle of the series and win it,
and you have a chance to bring him in game three,
and you wait till game four, get beating Game three.
(01:29:39):
Now you're on the breakdown. Oh three, you're not coming
back to win the series. I feel very comfortable at
this point saying you're not beating Boston four times in
a row. A matter of fact, I'm not sure you're
gonna beat him one time. And now Ben Simmons is
ready to play. None of this, Aaron, None of it
makes any sense except in the universe, where, for whatever reason,
(01:30:02):
Brooklyn just makes baffling decisions that backfire left and right.
The hardened thing didn't work for them. And now the
Ben Simmons thing, we don't even know if it can
work because we've never seen the guy on the floor
in the uniform. So Jason Tatum twenty four years old,
just turned twenty four. Joannice just turned twenty seven. If
(01:30:22):
I told you Brooklyn nets Kevin Durant over under point
five NBA Finals appearances for this core in Brooklyn, Katie Kyrie,
and Ben Simmons, and you know, let's stick with Katie
because Katie is a superstar. All that are you going
(01:30:42):
over or under? Basically, do you believe that this team
will make the finals with this core? Because you look
at two um forget winning a championship, by the way,
but you look at two emerging teams in the East,
and I don't even think you could call Milwaukee emerging.
They're they're They're a championship team with two stars that
are in there early to mid twenties in the peak
(01:31:05):
of their careers. Where Kevin Durant, you know, and I
love him and he's a great player, and I've enjoyed
watching him over the last decade and change. But Kevin
Durant is thirty three years old. He'll be thirty four
before the next NBA season start. Kyrie Irving just turned thirty.
If I'm telling you one NBA Finals appearance with Kevin
Durant in Brooklyn, are you taking it or leaving it?
(01:31:26):
I'm leaving it. I think Durant will play in another Finals.
I don't know if it will be in Brooklyn, and
I definitely don't think it will be with this core.
The East is getting better around them, and they're younger.
The teams that are getting better are younger around them.
You talked about Tatum being twenty four. We can go
down the list and talk about other teams in the
East that you like their young studs, like Atlanta's kind
(01:31:47):
of got a dude for example, Just throwing another name
out there. I just don't sense the Brooklyn experiment is
going to work. I think eventually Durant can join a
championship roster again and play a key old because he
might be the best basketball player on Earth. He certainly is,
He's certainly in the argument on any given night. I
just don't like the mix. I didn't like the mix
(01:32:08):
when it happened. I didn't like the decision that Kevin
Durant made to go there. Still trying to chase happiness.
He's chased happiness everywhere. Couldn't win with Westbrook, he thought,
so let me go join the team that just beat
us when we were up three one in that series.
Then well, now they don't like me as much because
it's still Steph Curry's team, even though in my head
(01:32:30):
I'm the best player, which you may have been right,
but it was always gonna be Steph's team. First, Stephan
already won a championship out there. He joined them, and
I think people were putting an asterisk next to his name,
fair or not that hurt his feelings that He's like, well,
I'm gonna play with my friend. Then, so he's still
chasing happiness. And he goes to Brooklyn and he joined
the single most unhappy dude in the league. And then
(01:32:51):
they brought another Malconson and and James Harden and that
was supposed to work. Like none of this has worked.
And I think I think, honestly, everybody should have first
guessed this. Sometimes it's not just about the talent, it's
about what is the mental makeup of the basketball team
and how fragile is that makeup? And for me, since
(01:33:14):
the moment, it was put together, Brooklyn looked flawed mentally,
and that's what we see. I will tell you exactly
when I knew this was in trouble, the Katie Kyrie experiment.
But I'll tell you next Aaron towards Jason Martin. This
is Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, get ready Fox Sports Radio.
(01:33:36):
Aeron towards Jason Martin, Saturday Night, Big story. By the way,
I shouldn't mention before we get back to the Brooklyn
Boston game. Minnesota up seven points with fifty seconds to
go in the third quarter, up nine five, excuse me
on the two seed Memphis. Memphis is up two to
one in the series. So we will monitor that one
(01:33:56):
as we get set to go to the fourth quarter
in man a Soota here momentarily. So we're talking before
the break Brooklyn Nets fall to the Boston Celtics. They're
down three oh in that series. Oh three. If you're
a Brooklyn fan, you're down oh three. Um, And we're
talking about Kevin Durant, Kyrie irving the future but also
the past, and Jason kind of brought up the point of, um,
(01:34:17):
you know, the decisions that Kevin Durant has made throughout
his career. I grew with everything Jason said. And you
know two things stood out to me when that whole
thing went down that I said, I don't think Kevin
Durant has really thought this one through, Jason. The first
one as simple as it sounds. And this is gonna
sound like I'm overreacting being hot take guy. But for
(01:34:38):
a year year and a half we heard these two
are gonna team up and it's gonna be with the
New York Knicks, and that made sense. That made sense
because in your head, you're like, Okay, they want to
be the guys to go to New York and elevate
that organization to a level that it hasn't been in
fifty years. Then you start to hear rumors that Kyrie
(01:35:00):
if he wants to go to Brooklyn, and he starts
to say, why is Kyrie dictating the terms of this thing,
Like Kyrie, yeah, he should be throwing rose pedals on
the floor for the opportunity to play with Katie, especially
after he screwed it up with the other best player
in the world. And then the other moment where I
said I just don't like what this could be is
(01:35:22):
when uh, there was a report out right after they signed.
There was a report out right after they signed, and
maybe it means nothing, and maybe I'm overreacting that Katie
had never even spoken to the Brooklyn front office before
he signed that contract, like they knew it was gonna happen,
but he hadn't spoken. And that's when I was like,
(01:35:43):
this guy's out of his mind, doesn't know the coach,
doesn't know the GM all. He's he's totally relying on
I'm Katie, I got Kyrie on my side. We're good
to go. And it leads to back to what we
talked about to lead this show. I'm not saying that
guys shouldn't have some say in who play. He's with him,
but I think these guys really just thought we're gonna
show up, we're gonna ball out, we're gonna be great,
(01:36:04):
everything's gonna be awesome, and they had no idea what
they're walking. It's just, you know, other people have said
it over the last month, so I'm not claiming it
as my own idea, but Kevin Durant just just betting
on Kyrie as the guy that was going to you know,
I don't want to say elevate his career because his
(01:36:25):
career has been awesome and he's a great player. I
want to see great players have their highest levels of success.
And we had a seven eight year track record. Kyrie
quit on Cleveland, Kyrie quit on Boston, and now you
trust this guy with your career. It's just a potentially historic,
you know, miscalculation by Kevin Durant. It really is. Kevin
(01:36:45):
should have been the a Kyrie should have been the reactor.
But the bigger thing is, again, like I laid out
in the first segment, Kevin Durants chase happiness and you
don't find that in this world. You just don't. It
continues to move around if you are looking for it,
(01:37:06):
and you think you're just gonna find it in his spot,
you weren't. He made the decision that he wanted to
go play with his best friend. I want to go
play with my friend. That's gonna make me happy because
I'm not happy in Golden State because they don't they
don't love me here the way I want to be loved.
And I wasn't happy in Oklahoma City because we weren't
(01:37:27):
able to win a championship there and when we blew
that three one lead, I had to get out of
town and I went and joined a team that had
won seventy plus games. But the mistake that he made
was thinking that playing with his friend was one gonna
make him happy and to win him a championship. But
I think it's the first one that led him to Brooklyn.
And your point about the Knicks is well taken. That
(01:37:48):
made total sense because that's the brand. It doesn't matter
what the Nets have on the floor, They're still never
gonna be the Knicks, just like the Mets are never
gonna be the Yankee and the Jets are never going
to be the Giants. It's just the way that it is.
For whatever reason, Kyrie dictated terms, and then Kevin Durant
(01:38:09):
went and wanted to play with his friend. And these
were two guys that weren't happy apart who you were
gonna bring in two dudes that already were emotionally a
little bit unstable, put them together, and all of a
sudden that was magically supposed to make that work, and
then you made it even worse by bringing in Harden,
and then it totally detonated. I don't know what their
(01:38:30):
relationship is now. I have no idea what Katie and
Kyrie's relationship is now. But Kyrie has found a way
to implode every team He's been on everyone, and I
know that list is not long, and say everyone like
he's played half the league. He hasn't. I get that.
But as you said, Eric Cleveland, Kyrie became a malcontent Boston.
(01:38:51):
That man sulked and sit on and set in the
sidelines during playoff games in street clothes, lied to kids,
and got out of Boston. He goes to Brooklyn, then
comes to vaccine trouble and all that and whatever. If
you're on the side or not on the side, that's
irrelevant to me. On the floor and off the floor,
(01:39:12):
Kyrie just seems like it's miserable to deal with him.
For management, for organizations, for teammates, because you just don't
know what dude is gonna show up. It's a very
dr Jacklan Mr. Hyde kind of situation. There are some
personalities with Kyrie. I don't know if it's just one dude.
All I know is it wasn't going to work. I'm
(01:39:35):
not surprised it hasn't worked. But Durant decided he wanted
to go play with his friend, and as a result,
he may have cost himself a chance at winning another championship. Yeah,
and you know who this just makes me appreciate that
much more is Steph Curry. Um. And I've been critical
step through the years. I think you know, he gets
you know, he gets a pass on a lot of
stuff that other guys of his caliber don't. But you know,
(01:39:56):
Steph Curry, I mean, this guy was an ep stepped
aside for Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant was was the a,
you know, the alpha on that team, and Steph Curry said,
if this is gonna help us win championships, I'll be
number two. I'll play off the ball. I'll let you
do what you do because you're seven ft one and
you're the best shooter on the play like like. And
(01:40:18):
then from there, you know, he goes from being an
m VP caliber player to essentially being like the best
number two in the history of the sport. Then this year,
you know, he's been banged up, he's this, he's that.
He's coming off the bench right now, Jason, And that's
the guy that Kevin Durant gave up on. That was
the guy Kevin Durant was jealous of. And you're right,
(01:40:38):
it's like I'm not telling somebody how to live their life.
If you want another opportunity, if you want to prove
you could do it yourself, that's fine. But I mean,
by all accounts, it's harder. It's hard to find guys
like Steph and Draymond, and you're leaving guys that are
so about the team. I mean, Draymond, you know you
can criticize him, and he's done stuff in the past.
I don't like that guy defends that guy plays hard,
(01:40:59):
that guy dives on the flour for loose Paul's. That
guy doesn't scare if he doesn't care if he scores
five points if it helps him win. Steph Curry's coming
off the bench right now, Clay Thompson battling back from
multiple injuries, all about the team, and you left those
guys for Kyrie freaking Irving. I just don't get it.
I just don't get it into back to our point, Jason,
(01:41:19):
you know, it's hard to see the scenario with how
good Milwaukee is, with how good Boston is, just to
get to an NBA finals, let alone actually win one
in Brooklyn. Yeah, And you know, I just I think
one thing for Steph to that point, Steph. It's easy
for stuff to say, yeah, you go do it, k D.
(01:41:40):
Because he already knows he's the beloved one, because he
was the one that's been there from the beginning. If
there's a Derek Jeter, it's Steph Curry, not Kevin Durant.
Kevin Durant came in. He certainly was the best player
overall on that team, there's no question about that. He
helped him win a championship beyond Leaf, but it was
(01:42:01):
Steph that was so beloved, so so it was easier.
I don't know that it's necessarily easy for a superstar
to play this secondary role if he has to, but
at times Steph would just show up and do what
he had to do. But the fact that he stayed put.
They hasn't demanded a, you know, a bunch of money,
or he's he's left people out there on contract negotiations
(01:42:23):
and all this other kind of stuff. That does speak
to one of the reasons why he's been as successful
as he has. But when you look at the Brooklyn situation,
it was volatile. It is volatile, And then we haven't
really discussed this at all, but you just why did
you hire Steve Nash to be the coach there, Like,
(01:42:43):
how is that supposed to work? I mean, I don't
know nothing against Steve Nash. Maybe he can become a
Steve Kerr type guy, or maybe he's gonna be a
good coach. I don't know, but it seemed like to
me you needed a Phil Jackson type. I don't mean
Phil Jackson, but you needed somebody that understood how to
manage super star egos from a coaching perspective. I know
Steve's played with greats, no question, he is a great,
(01:43:06):
but that doesn't necessarily know, he doesn't necessarily necessitate It
doesn't make it obvious that he can coach those kind
of egos, that he can manage those kind of egos,
that level of superstar. That whole thing has just seemed
like a bunch of weird management decisions where I don't
know who's actually leading the charge, But if it's Kyrie,
(01:43:29):
then this is what you get. This is Fox Sports
Radio eron Torres, Jason Martin here Saturday night, more reaction
of Brooklyn Boston. Is this the end of an era
in the NBA? Will explain next, but first, Steve A. Segar,
what's trending My man in the late night NBA playoff
game at Minnesota Timberwolves. They're still leading the two seeds
(01:43:49):
in the West Memphis four, with about nine minutes to
go in regulation. And I'm glad you guys brought this up.
First segment of this hour, the fan that ran onto
the courting was ically quickly tackled. In Minnesota, somebody's run
out of the floor of these people, and there's somebody
else there was. There was a second person they arrested first.
(01:44:12):
This woman came out of Row Too, and as soon
as she hit the court, the security guard from Row
Too had jumped and followed her and tackled her. Did
a great job, and they quickly whisked her away. And
then they went behind and behind those first you know,
the courtside seats into the second row, and got a
second person and took them out. And apparently those were
behind the seats behind Glenn Taylor, the outgoing owner of Minnesota.
(01:44:36):
And yet it's not the first fan behavior like this
in the in the postseason at Minnesota. As for the
game itself, if Minnesota can win tonight, they'll be tied
two games apiece in this first round series. It's now
over the Grizzlies with nine minutes to go and one.
Desmond Bane of the Grizzlies has thirty points in this
(01:45:00):
game from three point range. He's seven of nine. On
a night when John Moran is two for eight six points,
Bain has thirty and the Crizzlies are only down by
two plenty of time left in the fourth Utah has
tied two games apiece after beating Dallas one hundred to
ninety nine. Apparently, until today, the Mavericks, according to stat muse,
had been forty two and oh when they outshot their
(01:45:21):
opponents in field goal percentage this season. They lost by
one on a late dunk from Rudy Gobert with eleven
seconds left. Gobert seventeen points, fifteen rebounds. Two seed in
the East. Boston got thirty nine points from Jayson Tatum
and a win at Brooklyn one oh nine, one oh three.
Celtics up three games to none. Philadelphia's lead three games
to one after a loss at Toronto one one oh two.
(01:45:42):
Toronto Scottie Barnes won the Rookie of the Year award
two Major League Baseball, there is still one game going.
Royals at Mariners seven seven in the top of the eighth.
San Diego has beaten the Dodgers in ten innings, three
to two. Baltimore beat the Angels five four in Anaheim
despite two homers from Mike Trout. Arizona surprised the Mets
five to two, and Miami won nine seven in Atlanta. Today,
(01:46:05):
Detroit split a double header with Colorado, but in game
one the Tigers in a thirteen to nothing victory. So on,
Miguel Cabrera get career hit number three thousand, and we
can update the young pitcher over in Japan who had
a perfect game this month and then eight perfect after that.
His perfect streak is over at seventeen innings. In his
Sunday start in Japan, he has just given up a
(01:46:27):
leadoff single and apparently three hits in the first inning.
This is a twenty year old that we're talking about.
Roki Sasaki with a hundred mile an hour fastball. He
had thrown the first perfect game in the Japanese major
leagues in almost thirty years. That was a couple of
weekends ago, and had nineteen strikeouts in that game. Then
last weekend eight perfect innings. It was with fourteen strikeouts,
(01:46:49):
but in a zero zero game. He was pulled after
a hundred two pitches and a reliever gave up a
tenthenning homer and they lost two to one. But going
into tonight, he had retired fifty two cons ecutive batters.
According to MLB dot Com, Sasaki is unlikely to be
posted for Major League clubs to bid on after either
of the next two seasons, and he may not come
(01:47:11):
to North America for several more years. Quote. Some observers
believe that, unlike Showhyotani, Sasaki may wait until after he
turns back to you. That is why to Sagar, with
due respect to everybody else, is the best in the business.
You're gonna be joining us back in about ten minutes
from now. What else you got for us coming up
(01:47:32):
here about ten? Well, we've got a stunning flight home
for one major league team this weekend, an amazing soccer
score to pass along from tonight, and details from baseball,
including not only Cabrera but a crazy game at Tampa Bay. Wow,
I'm tuning in. That's for darn sure, Thank you, Steve.
It is. This is Fox Sports Radio eron towards Jason
(01:47:54):
Martin here Saturday night. So Jason, you know I mentioned
it before we got to the Seger. I feel like
this is the end of an era. I feel like
this is the end of an era. We had the
two thousand tens. I believe we're defined. I don't believe
they were defined by player mobility. They were defined by um,
(01:48:14):
you know, uh, what's the word. I'm looking for, player empowerment.
And it's not as though players shouldn't have a say
in all sorts of good stuff. And you know who,
you know, where they play, who they play with, all that.
But you have the Lakers completely missing the playoffs. Obviously,
the Clippers. It's a little bit of a different deal.
Kauai was hurt, but that isn't going as planned. The
(01:48:34):
nets are down, oh three, And meanwhile it's the Sons,
it's the Box, it's the Grizzlies, It's teams like that
that have been built through the draft, have been built
the old school way. Uh. And we had Kurt Healing
on an hour one and he said a lot of
these younger guys, they don't want to team up with
everybody else. They don't want to jump from city to city. Uh.
Janice wants to build something special for the long term.
(01:48:56):
In Milwaukee. It appears as though John Morant wants to
do the same in Memphis. I feel like we're seeing
the end of an ear Jason Martin, and I think
it's it's it's kind of a you know, showing itself. Uh,
you know, it's showing itself with this Brooklyn series, and
obviously with the Lakers being completely out of the playoffs. Well,
a lot of guys that we're talking about are still
young and they have the opportunity to end up doing
(01:49:17):
this down the road. So I think it's the end
of this era of it. But we gotta see where
these guys are and how they're feeling three or four
years from now. Because you say a lot of things
and then you end up doing different things. Deebo Samuel
a couple of months ago said don't worry, I'm not
going anywhere. Uh he said that on Twitter. That tweet
did not age well, Debo, because then you said hashtag
(01:49:38):
pay debo and now you say trade me. So things
can change, and they can change rapidly, and a lot
of these guys, being as young as they are. What's
one of the things that led to the Super Team
explosion over the last ten fifteen years. It was international competition.
It was guys playing in the Olympics together who then
(01:49:59):
would talk and say, man, it'd be pretty cool if
we did that in the NBA. They got along, they
became friends. That's how Kyrie and Kevin Durant became friends.
That's how you got the Big Three in Miami. Was
those guys playing together and and figuring out, hey, you know,
we we worked pretty well together. Maybe we should try
doing this somewhere. And they had the power to do it,
because NBA players do have a ton of power. So
(01:50:22):
I would just like to see where we are four
or five years from right now and see whether some
of these guys that have gotten more familiar with one
another start to make moves to play together again. I'm
not gonna say it's over. I'm gonna say that this
iteration of it, with this generation of guys that have
(01:50:42):
been doing it, I think we've about seen the end
of that, or certainly seen the end of that being
as successful as we're used to. By the way, very
very very random, but um, I think I to suck.
Carl Anthony Town's dad sitting with Usher uh Is from
front row at the Minnesota Timberwolves and Memphis Grizzlies games.
(01:51:03):
So a lot going on in in Minnesota to night
to Sager just told you about the fan that stormed
the court and got tackled like Ray Lewis was out there. Uh,
Minnesota up four with about seven minutes to go, trying
to even this series of two. We'll continue this conversation next,
we'll bring back Steve to Sager. Next. This is Fox
(01:51:24):
Sports Radio. Welcome back everybody, Fox Sports Radio eron towards
Jason Martin here Saturday night. Uh, we do this every
week in about five Eastern. We're bringing Steve to Sager
to get you an extended update on everything you missed
today in sports. The saga what happened on this Saturday
in sports? Well, we can update. Currently at Minnesota, it's
one oh five, one oh four Timberwolves ahead of the
(01:51:46):
Grizzlies with under six minutes left. And the guy in
the first row at the Minnesota game who looks exactly
like Usher is actually John Randi. So I had heard
that they had some kind of bet or something going,
and so I thought it was Usher. I mean I
thought it was I thought it was Job. Not the
only guy that's thought it's usher, but apparently they Ian
(01:52:07):
Memphis were sitting next to each other as well. That's cute,
very strange. At one point they have something happened a
couple of minutes ago. They were both yelling, looking different
ways and yelling at different things. So they do have
kids on opposite teams here in this playoff series, but
it's just a little odd. Before we get to one
team's attempt to return home from a road trip, we
(01:52:27):
have this score to pass along. US under seventeen women
soccer was playing Grenada in a World Cup qualifier for
the youth soccer team. Final score US twenty two nothing
over Grenada. The US women the under seventeen age team.
Everybody on the club was making their national team debut
because this whole program was paused during the pandemic. It
(01:52:50):
was the first international match for this grouping over almost
eight hundred days according to a p And then they
get Grenada as an opponent, and twenty to nothing in
soccer is the final today. And then there's the Dallas
Stars trying to make their way home after a winless
three game trip to Canada regular season in the NHL
Ends next week. Their charter plane had to slam on
(01:53:10):
the brakes just before takeoff, and then they had to
wait six hours for a different plane. The coach, Rick Bonus,
as either coach or player, has been in this league
for almost fifty years, said he had never been afraid
to be out of plane until yesterday. He says, We're
going full throttle down the runway. All of a sudden,
Captain slams on the break. Everything's flying all over and
(01:53:31):
you're just not expecting it. We're going this way initially,
and then all of a sudden we're completely stopped. Well initially,
report is everything's under control people, and then the next
announcement there was a little smoke in the cockpit after
d icing. And so this is the team that lost
Thursday night as Calgary at Calgary, their third loss in
four nights. They're trying to fly out on Friday. They
(01:53:53):
had to get off the plane, wait for another plane
to arrive from Phoenix to Canada to take them back
to Texas. They had to go through customs a second time.
They finally this they left the hotel Friday morning eight
thirty am. The coach got to bed at his own
house in Texas at three thirty am this morning. Needless
(01:54:14):
to say, the morning skate was canceled for the team.
The Stars did win their home game tonight three to
two over expansion Seattle, and congrats to the Florida Panthers
a franchise record win in a row tonight beat Toronto
three to two. That is one of the top ten
longest winning streaks in NHL history, the longest in five
years since Columbus had won six in a row. And
(01:54:34):
we had a little baseball history today with Miguel Cabrera
needing just one more hit for a milestone. Dan Dickerson
Tigers Radio three thousand four Mguel cover. So now only
seven players all time have three thousand hits and five
(01:54:57):
hundred home runs in their career. Real quick, I was
on air when the Yankees intentionally walked him in the
eighth inning when he was going for three thousand hits?
Did any did anyone have any problem with that? Because
it was a perfectly logical strategic move and I did not.
I could not understand anyone arguing it's the only people
that did. We the people that had tickets and lasted
(01:55:18):
better to day. And then, by the way, they had
a rain out last night. And if you had tickets
for that. It was only good for the second game
of the double header tonight because it was a day
night doubleheader. You know how they split attendance so they
can still get two total gates after the rain last night.
So people who had the day game tickets for game one,
Cabrera got the magical hit and Detroit one thirteen to nothing.
(01:55:40):
People who had tickets for Game two, Detroit loss three
to two. And yeah, there was no milestone made in
that game. And then there was the finish to the
Yankee game. They got two in the bottom of the
ninth to beat the Cleveland Guardians five to four. Veteran
John sterling with the call on Yankees Radio as they win.
And then this happened just before the game winning hit.
(01:56:01):
Fans in right field at Yankee Stadium, we're throwing things
onto the field and at the outfielders of Cleveland and
kept doing it after the game winning hit, and the
Yankees have run out there and telling the bands stop throwing.
That's disgraceful. That's not Yankee Stadium. Those Yankee bands bulligans, hooligan.
(01:56:25):
So there you go, the New York Yankees with a
win today. I just wish we knew how John Sterling
really felt about those. Yeah, he usually keeps things very
close to the vest exactly. Never know. Update on the
basketball with one guy's son at the foul and Carl
Anthony Towns it's Minnesota one one oh seven over Memphis
four and a half minutes to play. Miami guard Kyle
(01:56:45):
Lowry has a strain hamstring. He is questionable for tomorrow
night's Game four at Atlanta. Hawks center Clint Capella now
questionable and upgrade after his hyper extended knee. Milwaukee's Chris
Middleton with the sprain m c L will miss at
least two weeks. Game four is tomorrow in Chicago. Sons
guard Devin Booker, with his strain hamstring, could miss a
couple of weeks. Game four for Phoenix late Sunday in
(01:57:06):
New Orleans and Golden States up three games none, playing
at Denver tomorrow. Boston with that three games to none
lead over Brooklyn now after tonight's win on the road.
Notable that Boston center Robert Williams did play. It was
gonna get limited minutes. He got sixteen minutes, two points
to rebounds, but he's not you know, twenty point a
game score He's part of the great defense we have
(01:57:29):
seen in recent months with Boston. Can they get him
more minutes as maybe not the series goes along. It
may not be very long series, but as the postseason
goes along, if defense wins championships, Boston has a good
chances anybody else in the East of making the finals.
Robert Williams had knee surgery less than a month ago,
and again Nets guard Ben Simmons reportedly will make his
(01:57:50):
season debut on Monday in the home game That might
be the ending game for the season for the Brooklyn Nets.
The way things are now, Dallas is going to be
hosting a game five Monday night against Utah. That series
now even at two two. Utah today trailed by four
with about thirty seconds left Donovan Mitchell, who had a
three point play and then Dallas missed two free throws.
(01:58:14):
Luca don Sich eventually with thirty points, but in a
loss one ninety nine at Utah. Don Sitch, of course,
had missed the first three games with the strain calf.
Jalen Brunson still scoring twenty three points. Don Sitch had
ten rebounds, He had four assists, four turnovers, and the
other game today was the Toronto win to stay alive,
beating Philadelphia, so it's Philly's three three games to one.
(01:58:34):
Joel Ebid thinks he can continue to play throughout the
playoffs with that thumb injury. Twenty one points and five
turnovers for him in this game, and the Rookie of
the Year in the NBA is Scotty Barnes of Toronto.
He won by the smallest margin of victory in rookie
balloting under the current voting format, which started about twenty
years ago, forty eight first place votes for him, forty
(01:58:55):
three for Evan Mobley of Cleveland. Barnes was drafted number
four overall last summer after are playing one season at
Florida State. Mobley was drafted number three overall. The guy
who was number one overall, Kid Cunningham from Detroit, finished
a distant third in the voting. So the previous rookies
of the Year LaMelo Ball, John morand Luka Don Sitch.
Now Scottie Barnes is on that list. Updating the Minnesota game,
(01:59:18):
about three minutes left, Timberwolves one eleven, one oh seven
over the two seed Grizzlies. Will it be two games
to two? After tonight they're currently in a time out.
Thank you Steven Sager, loaded loaded update there. We appreciate
it and we will keep everybody posted on what goes
on at the end of this Minnesota Memphis game, Minnesota
(01:59:38):
holding onto a four point lead with three seventeen to
go coming up. We react to the end of that game, Memphis,
Minnesota coming down on the wire. Also, as the Sager said,
four games coming up tomorrow. What do you need to know?
As Golden State returns to the court, as Milwaukee returns
to the court, Phoenix, et cetera. We got all that
plus Bernie Frido coming up. Aaron Tourist, Jason Martin, Fox
(02:00:01):
Sports Radio, Welcome in everybody, Fox Sports Radio our number
four Aeron Torres, Jason Martin here. This Grizzlies Timberwolves game
is absolutely wild as the Grizzlies have cut their deficit
to just three points thirty five seconds to go Minnesota
with the ball up one fifteen, one twelve. Uh and
(02:00:23):
it looks as though Minnesota not gonna call a time out,
They're just gonna play it out. We will keep you
updated from here quickly. Quick reminder Thursday Draft night, be
sure not to miss. Fox Sports Radios draft coverage throughout
the first round next Thursday at eight pm Eastern from
the Blaggio in Las Vegas. Jay Glazer former Vikings general
(02:00:44):
manager Rick Spielman, are very own. LaVar Arrington and Rob
Stone will have you covered through the first round of
the draft with pick by pick predictions and reactions to
all thirty two first round picks. That's Thursday, eight pm
Eastern from Las Vegas, the entire first round of the draft.
Listening on Fox Sports Radio in the I Heart Radio app.
Jason correct me if I'm wrong. Here, looks like a
(02:01:05):
miss three from the Memphis Grizzlies. Minnesota up three, just
got fouled with about ten seconds left. Uh, they can
make well, you know, the NBA is a little bit
different than you know, the time frame and everything. But
eight point three seconds left. Uh, Anthony Edwards, it appears
is at the line. He makes his first one. Minnesota
looks like they might win Game four in this series.
(02:01:27):
Yeah they might. It looks like they are. But boy,
they've tried to lose it over the last five or
six minutes. Some bad decisions, some bone headed plays. Karl
Anthony Towns goes and tries to save a ball uh
that wasn't off of his team and ended up costing
what turned out to be a three pointer. They're just lucky.
Desmond Bain decided to get a little bit cold, and
(02:01:51):
he missed two threes. After being seven of nine, now
he's seven of eleven. He also missed a free throw.
But it's been a little ragged. It has definitely been
a little ragged. These are two young teams and you're
kind of seeing that right now. You're seeing some spectacular stuff.
This has been a really fun game to watch. The
boy there have been some blemishes here late, even though
it does look like we're about to be knotted up
(02:02:11):
at two games a piece. And yeah, bring it on,
take this thing to seven. I'm really enjoying watching this series. Yeah,
we lead the show a little bit talking about that
is that I understand that neither of these teams is
probably built to win the championship this year. But you know,
I think we I think we do this in sports
too much, right and and you know you and I
do in the college football stuff. You know, every Saturday night,
(02:02:32):
college football becomes such a sport that is so surrounded
by the college football playoff, and we we missed these
great stories. You know, Arkansas this year winning nine games
for the first time in forever, Kentucky winning ten games.
I mean, I'm just trying to think off the top
of my head, you know, Michigan not winning the National
Championship but having the best season they've had in twenty
five years. Uh. And I think it's kind of the
(02:02:54):
same way with the NBA, right like we you know,
we define everything by rings and who's got him and
who does it. And it goes back to what we
talked about last hour. It's why Kevin Durant left Oklahoma
City for Golden State and then that's why I left
Golden State form Brooklyn. UM. And sometimes we just we
don't see the story that's right in front of us
and how awesome that story is because we're thinking about
the championship and who's gonna win and what does it
all mean? And I think Memphis Minnesota is a perfect
(02:03:16):
example of that. Man. I mean, we were through four games.
Obviously Minnesota takes who takes Game one. I shouldn't say
we're through four games, but we're pretty close to being
through four games. Um. But you know, really competitive series,
fun teams, young teams, interesting teams. As it appears as though, Uh,
(02:03:36):
Minnesota has now Memphis excuse me, hits a three. They're
gonna check to see if the foot was on the line.
But you know, I just the point I'm trying to
get to is these teams are gonna win the championship.
But it doesn't mean that, as you said, they can't
put on a really entertaining seven game series. Minnesota up
to trying to even the series with six seconds left. Uh,
(02:03:59):
they have the ball as they are checking to see
if a Memphis three was a good three or whether
a foot was on the line. Jason, Yeah, and we'll
I'll see it. I didn't notice in real time. It
wasn't a great angle to see whether or not his
folt was on the line. Again, Minnesota has tried to
find a way to give this thing away late and
(02:04:21):
with six seconds left, just because of what I've seen
over the last five to six minutes. If I'm Minnesota fan,
I'm not real thrilled right now in terms of I
want to see this last six seconds go off the clock,
is what I'm saying. Like, I'm gonna make sure they
get it in bounds. I wanna make sure they don't
blow a free throw. There's dudes that can make big
shots for Memphis. Like this becomes real interesting because of
(02:04:42):
that three, because they were able to get it off
very very quickly. There's still six seconds left. It's a
two point game. They've got to get the ball in bounds.
Then they've got to convert at the free throw line,
which can be difficult to do for young basketball teams.
Beverly has already missed a couple over the last few minutes.
I think Karl Anthony Town's missed one. So I'm very
(02:05:02):
curious see how this plays out until the until it's over,
I'm not gonna say Minnesota has won this thing yet. Yeah,
Karl Anthony Towns, by the way, very nice bounce back
game finish, has thirty one points. Now, uh, as if
Minnesota can get the ball in obviously they're going to
be filed. That was a three pointer, a two point
lead with six seconds ago. By the way, UM, does
this change your belief on this series that? Uh? You know, obviously,
(02:05:24):
if Minnesota goes or Memphis excuse me, goes up three
to one, UM, then you're talking about a situation where
they would play Tuesday in Memphis for Memphis to seal
the deal. If this ends up being two to two,
you think Minnesota can win this thing because I'm not
gonna lie. I know Memphis is the two seed. I
know they got home court advantage, but you know, Minnesota's
feisty man, They're fight sty, They're gonna they have two
(02:05:47):
out of the three best players in this series. I
believe in Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. Um, you
know one. It's a fun story too. I think Minnesota
if they can hold on here as Carl Anthony Towns
has fault, he's going to the line with four seconds left,
and they can hold on here, I think Memphis can
go ahead and Minnesota can go ahead and win this series.
I mean yeah, I mean I thought it was pretty
close between the two of them because they're both young
(02:06:08):
and there are stars. Like you just mentioned, Edwards is unreal.
Still don't know how in the world Georgia didn't do
more when he was there. I just the coach stunk.
But yeah, I know, but still Aaron, like when you've
got the number one pick and he's this dude, Like
I didn't realize Anthony Edwards was this good because he
played at Georgia and I never saw any like I
(02:06:29):
never you didn't have any reason to care like there was.
They still weren't relevant then. But yeah, him in Towns.
Towns is frustrating. Towns is frustrating because I wish he
would play more like he looks. Meaning at times, I
feel like he plays like he wishes he was five
inches shorter. I wish he was more physical. I wish
(02:06:51):
he was he would stay in pain a little more.
But man, he when he is on, he shows why
he was the number one pick in that draft. He
could step out and make three, he could handle the ball,
get to the rack. He's He's the complete package. I
just wish he played a little bit more rugged because
I think at his size that would still benefit him
(02:07:11):
and he would be more consistent. Yeah, but he just
made those two free throws. He just made those two
free throws. Minnesota. I don't just hit one, but it's over.
I don't know what the point spread was in that game, Eric,
maybe you can check out the point spread. Three point spread.
I'm not kidding you, because Memphis just hit a three
at the buzzer. Minnesota does win. To be clear, at
(02:07:32):
Minnesota was up for Memphis. It's a three at the buzzer.
I believe that could have been an X factor in
a lot of betting tickets. But Minnesota now has tied
this series at two. Jason, I'm gonna tell you you know,
by the way, for people just checking in fourth game
of the day, as the Sacred just caught us updated
on uh Toronto wins that series is three to one.
(02:07:53):
Phillies up in that one, Brooklyn falls down, oh three,
Boston up three on that series. Also Utah and Dallas
tied two to two. Minnesota officially tied at two to
two with Memphis as Karl Anthony Towns gives his dad
some dap, gives John Morant's dad, who really looks like
USh or some dap. I'm telling you, I think Minnesota can.
(02:08:15):
Uh they They've already won a game in Memphis. They
have two out of the three best players in this series.
I think the Tea Wolves can steal this one. I'm
not saying they will, but I think they can't. Very
fun series, though, to your point, Chason, very fun series. Again,
you're looking at You're looking at the future of the
NBA with these two teams. Two young teams that are
only going to get better, that were built through the draft,
(02:08:36):
that don't have a bunch of aging superstars that have
the right kind of makeup that are growing up. They're
learning how to win. In April May and maybe June.
Who knows. I thought going in whoever one here, you
know this, this might be about as far as they go,
although there are some other teams in the West that
I just kind of don't really believe in. But both
(02:08:58):
of these two teams are on the right track. You
got one that's a two seeds, so obviously, but then
you've got a seven seed Minnesota that I just look
at the pieces and I say, man, if they could
just keep it together, this is a team that could
that could really elevate next year. And then you could
have both of these two teams matching up, not in
the first round, after one of the teams had to
(02:09:19):
advance into playing round, but maybe in the conference finals
or at least in the conference semifinals much later. Because
I think both teams are not going anywhere. I'm meeting meeting,
not going anywhere in the future. I mean, they're going
somewhere in terms of a positive direction, but they're not
going anywhere in terms of receding back out of the
playoffs or anything like that. They're gonna be here for
(02:09:39):
a while. Well, no, I agree, And you know, even
Minnesota being a seven seed, I mean you look at
their upside as opposed to say Utah, who's kind of
had this core together for three, four or five years
and really doesn't seem like they can get over the hump. Dallas,
it feels like they don't have that guy alongside Luca
don Chich, although I know, of course Jalen Presidents had
a few good games. But Minnesota feels to me like
(02:10:01):
they are on the rise, as they are now tied
two to two in this series. Game five will be Monday,
Tuesday night, excuse me in Memphis seven thirty Eastern time. Uh,
And we'll keep you updated on that one. But Memphis
in Minnesota tied two games apiece. Really quick, I do
want to get to there's four games tomorrow, Jason um
(02:10:23):
Milwaukee at Chicago. Milwaukee's up to one in that series.
Golden State can go ahead and sweep the Denver Nuggets
right out of the first round of the playoffs. Miami
at Atlanta. Atlanta stole Game three on Friday Night, that
series is two to one, and then Phoenix up two
to one. Real quick, Okay, let me give you this one.
(02:10:44):
Milwaukee's without Chris Middleton, Phoenix is without Devin Booker. Who
are you more worried about in this series? Or do
you maybe you believe that both teams are gonna be fine?
But who are you more worried about in this series?
Because two major injuries to the two perceived favorites in
each conference. Uh. I don't think you can undersell how
big that storyline is going into Sunday's games. I would
say I'm more worried about Milwaukee, even though I think
(02:11:06):
Booker is certainly the better player, because I just like
Chicago more than I like New Orleans. It's really that simple.
I don't think the Pelicans. I think Phoenix can beat
them even if Devin Booker didn't come back. In this
entire series, Chicago, Chicago is a better basketball team than
the Pels are. And then you look at Milwaukee and
(02:11:28):
that could get a little that could get tight like
tomorrow or I guess now today where I'm at and
today on the East Coast, I'm taking Chicago to win.
I'm not gonna take New Orleans to beat Phoenix. I
am gonna take Denver not to get swept, and I'm
gonna take Miami. So I'm looking at the two one
seats to actually win. But I actually think the Bucks
(02:11:48):
are gonna get beat. I think today the storyline Monday
is gonna be, oh, how much do they need Chris
Middleton right now? Because I think Chicago is gonna show
up big. I just do. I think that. I think
that that that that Bulls team has a little bit
of heart and I don't think they liked the way
that win in Game three, and I think they're gonna
come back strong today. You know, you talk about another
(02:12:10):
team that could be on the rise, the New Orleans Pelicans.
I know you obviously said you like the Bulls to
potentially pull off the upset tomorrow. Actually like New Orleans
last night, Chris Paul goes off you know what was
it like nineteen fourth quarter points or something like that,
uh to to go ahead and seal Game three in
that series to make that series two to one. But
(02:12:31):
New Orleans Brandon Ingram has just emerged as a star.
And you know, if we if we hosted Monday through Friday,
I'm sure we would have had the brandon Ingram uh conversation,
you know, as it pertains to the Lakers at some
point this week. Is as everybody did on our airwaves
here on Fox Sports Radio. But c J McCollums added
some veteran experience to them, and so you have a
rising star in Brandon Ingram. C J. McCollum. That's the
(02:12:54):
one that really intrigues me, because, um, really this series
very easily could be two to one in favor of
New Orleans. There at home tomorrow, Brandon Ingram is playing
out of his mind. Thirty four points last night, this
after a thirty seven point performance in Game two. So
just something to keep an eye on in that game
(02:13:14):
tomorrow again four games tomorrow. Also a note from Bernie Fratto.
Memphis was a two and a half point favorite coming
into tonight. Because of that, that final shot did not
matter as Minnesota beats Memphis in Game four one nineteen
to even up that series. Speaking of Bernie Fratto, he'll
(02:13:36):
join us next tell you everything you need to know
about what happened today on the court, what what's going
to happen tomorrow, all the big betting trends, across Sports
Bernie Fratto coming up next, Aeron Towards Jason Martin, Fox
Sports Radio. Welcome back everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Aeron Torres,
Jason Martin here Saturday night. And you know when you
(02:13:57):
hear Big pimpin about one twenty east Stern time every
Saturday means Bernie Frado Strata Vegas joining us. Bernie, what's
going on? Man? How are you well? Gentlemen? Full slate today.
And by the way, if you didn't feel like laying
six to one with Tyson Fury, one of the popular
bets is would he knock out his opponent before the
eighth round? Plus three sixty? That actually cashed, so burn. Um.
(02:14:21):
You know one topic that Jason and I got to
earlier was deepo Samuel the situation there? Um, are there odds?
I know a lot of this stuff is off shore.
You can't bet it in Vegas. But are there odds
on where he could potentially end up next? Yeah? There's
actually uh nine teams that they put odds on. The
Jets are of the favorite, uh three to one. Although
(02:14:42):
what's what's odd is is that they run a similar
offense then the forty Niners do. Said one would think
they'd want to line him up in the backfield. But
the Packers, Saints and Eagles right before him, and four
to one right after them, and four to one, Colds
five to one, Chiefs in the mix at six to one,
Patriot eight to one, all the way down to the
Bears and Cowboys at sixteen to one with a wink,
(02:15:02):
and the Nah the Browns at twelve to one. So yeah,
he's getting a lot of interest, although I just have
a funny feeling, Uh, the Niners are gonna refuse to
move him, so we'll see what happens. What were the uh,
what were the odds on Mike Tyson punching somebody on
a flight? Well, if you're a convicted fellon and you
won't shut the hell up and you throw a bottle
(02:15:24):
of a water a water button, easier for me to
say a water bottle at him, I'd say the odds
are pretty darned good. You know, I've met Mike many times,
and uh, he's actually a really nice guy. So I
don't know what was going on here. He must have
really been provoked. But you know, Mike's good for you know,
not ever two or three years. He's good for one
of these, so I guess you could probably due Jason.
(02:15:44):
What about Tyson Fury today? What was the backstory on
the betting stuff there? There wasn't a whole hell of
a lot of action on that for a couple of reasons.
No one really wants to lay six to one, and
if you're if you're betting the underdog just because it
sounds good, there's no value in a torn up ticket.
One of the things that hurt the value when the
fight is I don't think a lot of folks really
realize if you lived here in Vegas, the main event
(02:16:04):
went off about two fifty in our time, So there's
not a doubt in my mind. You know, people are
probably stumbling into the casino right now with a few
cream dements under their belt. They've been hooked up to
a blender all day. Hey, can we get down on Tesson? Yeah,
you could have nine hours ago, but it's too late.
I think people screwed up, didn't know what time to
fight was going off, So not a huge handle on that. Bernie.
How How How are the injuries in the NBA affecting
(02:16:29):
the way teams are being bet right now and whether
or not things are moving see that's a really excellent question.
I'll tell you why, because nine of the teams in
this tournament are missing a key player and that has
absolutely affected to handle people. You know, I've I've said
this a million times, Guys, you've heard me. People get
high making the bed, not winning the bed, so they
want to be entertained. And so when you don't have
(02:16:51):
stars on the floor like this tournament is missing, it's
going to definitely affect the betting handle. Plus you've got
other things out there as well, not the leads to
which we've got the draft about a hundred and eighteen
hours away, and there's good action on that, so burn
obviously another topic that that is coming up here the
following week. Um, you know, the NFL Draft. I was
(02:17:13):
actually in Vegas this week to set up at the Belagio.
Looks awesome. Uh, what are some draft props we you
and I have talked for years about the evolution of
draft props and how interested people get in this stuff.
What are some of the hot props coming into the week. Yeah. Absolutely,
And for what it's worth, Um, the number of draft
(02:17:33):
props being offered by the books this year significantly down
from the last two years. For one simple reason. The
books got hammered, and so they're a little more cautious
they'll be different limits. The most popular bent by the
pros and I mentioned as three weeks agoes the over
under of five and a half receivers in the first round.
Everyone likes the over. There is projected to be possibly
(02:17:56):
as many as seven receivers in the first round. If
Jahan Dotson Penn State goes. I believe Christian Watson out
of North Dakota State will go, along with the Lobby Burkes,
Jamison Williams, of course, Drake London and Garrett Wilson. But
that bet opened up. You could have got it at
minus one fifty about two weeks ago. It's not minus
(02:18:16):
three twenty, so it's been pretty pretty heavily bet. The
other bet that a lot of folks like is Cavon
Thibodeaux to be picked in the top five. It's minus one,
but if you really want to get granular, you can
actually pick Cavon Thibodeaux to be the second overall pick
and get him plus to seventy five. Another very popular
pick who will be the first wide receiver off the board,
(02:18:39):
Garrett Wilson is very popular. He's just he's number one
just in about every mock draft. You can still get
him at plus one thirty five and then the first
quarterback off the board can he pick? It seems to
be the odds on favorite, but he's not a favorite
of mine. But people seem to like that plus one thirty.
But I think you're gonna kind of have to hold
your nose in that. What's interest thing is futures betting
(02:19:01):
in the NFL is still very popular, and for whatever reason,
the Raiders have gone from eighty to one to thirty
to one. Actually we know the reason once they picked
up Davante Adams and Chandler Jones. People in bananas on that.
But ironically they may be heavily bet to win the
Super Bowl, but they're still fourth pick fourth to win
in their own division, and the odds bear that out
(02:19:22):
as the Raiders are seven to one behind the Chiefs, uh,
Broncos and Chargers. So Bernie, I know, for the first
hour you do nothing pretty much but Vegas, and then
for the three hours following you just talk sports. So
the biggest thing that happened on Saturday was the Nets
going down oh three. When you look at that net situation.
I'm not surprised in the least that this is how
(02:19:43):
this has gone for the last couple of years. But
but how do you evaluate just how it's gone for
Durant and the situation he finds himself in. Well, I
I have been fading the nets for two years. I've
not bought them once. I was very well. See first
about the fact that I didn't think they'd win it
last year, and I didn't that they'd win it this year.
(02:20:04):
And I'm gonna take my victory. Lab Here's why. If
you go back twenty seven years, if you're not a
top ten defense in the in the NBA, unless your
name Shack and Kobe, they're the only duo, they're the
only team to win an NBA championship and not be
a top ten defense, then that's a problem. I've never
(02:20:25):
believed in that step that I've never believed in their availability.
And you know, this whole year, what uh what Kyrie
Irving did was an abomination. You can't tell me it
was a distraction. And when it really comes right down
to it, you know, I don't know saying a star
might when you won game, but a team might win
them all Boston is fabulous Defensively, they've managed to put
(02:20:46):
uh k D and advice. This team is frustrated. This
is their real d n A. I think they're a
bunch of petulate brats. And by the way, they're blaming
Steve Nash, that is, you know, overrated. I don't think
red ar Backet coaches team. So the long and the
short of it is Jason that from the get go
this is a predictable disaster because this is not fantasy basketball.
(02:21:07):
I think Karon mentioned this in Twitter. Notice how the
teams that have been constructed old school are actually having success.
What a concept. Last one for me, burn Um. You know,
we've been kind of bouncing around NBA, NFL. We talked
about odds for Deebo Samuel. Is there any update or
anything interesting on the Baker Mayfield front. Well, there are,
and again it's all off shore. There are only three
(02:21:29):
teams that they bothered to post odds on. The Panthers
were the favorite minus one forty. Even though if you
talk to anybody east of the Mason Dixon lyon, no
one has any idea why people believe that, Because the
Panthers are saying they have no interest the Seahawks plus
two hundred in the Texans plus six hundred. The problem
with Baker Mayfield is he's guaranteed eighteen million dollars next year,
(02:21:51):
and he's also coming off pretty, you know, pretty debilitating
shoulder surgery, even though it's his non throwing shoulder. You
just don't know if you put those two together. And
I don't think a lot of people are lining up
to make Baker Mayfield the highest paid backup quarterback in
the history of the NFL. So we'll see how this
plays out. But those three odds there, frankly, they look
like a guest to me. Nobody lining up to pay
(02:22:13):
Baker Mayfield. Everybody lining up to listen to Bernie Fratto
top of the Hour, straight out of Vegas. Also make
sure you're following Bernie on Twitter at Bernie Fratto. Bernie,
as always, we appreciate the time and we will be
listening at the top of the hour. Okay, thanks, thanks
guys for having me enjoy your weekend. Bernie Fratto straight
out of Vegas. You can listen to him at the
(02:22:34):
top of the hour. A lot of good stuff as always,
as Jason said, a lot of Vegas stuff. To lead
the show, and then he gets into all of the
big stories of the day and week. Let's get to
before we get back to the show, I got a
few thoughts I want to share in the final few segments.
But before we get to that, let's get to final time.
This evening, Steve de Seger with what's Trenthy. We'll get
(02:22:55):
to the NBA in a moment, playoff wins for Minnesota
and Utah at the l A Times in collegeops reporting
this hour that U c l A point guard Tiger
Campbell does intend to return to play for the Bruins
next season. They're quoting his mom. This guy who's two
time first team All Packed twelve selection. We know Jim
Hawks who's returning to u c l A. But scoring
guard Johnny Jusan has said he would declare for the
(02:23:16):
NBA draft. A guy that was drafted top five last summer.
Scottie Barnes of Toronto won Rookie of the Year in
the NBA Today, getting forty eight first place votes to
forty three for Evan Mobley of Cleveland. Then Toronto went
out and stayed alive in its season, beat Philadelphia finally
one ten to one oh two. Barnes, battling the bad ankle,
had eleven rebounds on one of six shooting from the floor.
(02:23:38):
Toronto's Fred van Vleet left with a strained hit. Pascal
Siakam with thirty four points. Sixers still lead the series
three games to one. Joel Embiid, with his thumb injury
twenty one points, five turnovers, He thinks he can continue
to play throughout the playoffs. James Harden of Philly was
five of seventeen shooting today twenty two points, nine assists. Still,
no team in the league has ever blown a three
(02:24:00):
oh series lead to lose. Boston is now up three
oh in its series after winning at Brooklyn tonight one
O nine, one oh three. Jayson Tatum thirty nine points.
He had six assists, six turnovers and six steals as
well Jaylen Brown twenty three points. Each team shot fifty
percent from the floor, but Kyrie Irving from three point
range was oh for seven. Irving was sixteen points, nine assists,
(02:24:22):
Kevin Durant sixteen points, eight assists, five turnovers, and Durant
played forty six minutes this evening. Bruce Brown twenty six
points in the loss, and again they say Ben Simmons,
NETS guard will make his season debut on Monday at home.
No final decision made yet. Utah's tied two games apiece
after edging Dallas one to ninety nine. Rudy Gobert with
(02:24:45):
the key dunk with eleven seconds to go. He had
seventeen points fifteen rebounds. At the foul line, Gobert was
just nine of eighteen, but they still won by a point.
Luca don Sich had missed the first three games of
the series with a strain calf. He had thirty points
ten rebounds in this one. Jordan Clarkson of Utah twenty
five points off the bench. Game five Monday night in Dallas.
(02:25:06):
As for Minnesota, they've tied a first round series against
Memphis two games apiece one nineteen one eighteen the final
Carl Anthony Town's thirty three points fourteen rebounds. A great
first three quarters for Memphis guard Desmond Baine. He had
thirty points through three, thirty four points on the night.
John Morant eleven points but fifteen assists and only two
(02:25:28):
turnovers in the loss at Minnesota. The NFL Draft starts
this Thursday night in Las Vegas, with full coverage here
on Fox Sports Radio. The NFL's full schedule will be
released May the twelve. The USFL was on FS one
tonight Birmingham getting to play at home beat Houston thirty
eight is Houston quarterback Clayton Thorson from Northwestern had two
touchdowns three interceptions. By the way I say playing at home,
(02:25:51):
all the games are in Birmingham in the regular season.
It's a ten week regular season. NASCAR's on Fox TV
tomorrow from Talladega three pm Eastern Time. Ice and Fury
won his boxing match in London, six round t KO
against Dillian White Furies. The WBC Heavyweight Champion attendance was
ninety four thousand. In the NHL. Among the twelve games,
Florida one it's thirteenth in a row and overtime win
(02:26:12):
against Toronto. Victories for Tampa Bay, Boston and Pittsburgh, which
won seven to at Detroit. Hockey's regular season ends next
Friday night for most teams. A thriller in the finale
of the night for Major League Baseball at Seattle, the
Mariners scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth
to win thirteen seven over Kansas City, tai France five
for six, five r b i s, including a late
homer in Anaheim, Mike Trout with two home runs, but
(02:26:35):
Baltimore scored three in the seventh to win five four
against the Angels, ruining a good start from Noah Syndergarde,
who did not get a decision for the Halos. Show
Hey Otani o for four, he's batting two oh six.
Dodgers lost in ten atings three two at San Diego.
His mookie batts went over five four strikeouts. He's batting
one eight nine. Padres winning run came on a sack
(02:26:58):
fly right after bunting that runner over to third. Arizona
surprised the Mets five to two. Miami with a nine
seven win at Atlanta Jazz Chisel. The Marlins homered on
the first pitch of the game. He went four for
six three r bis Toronto and Texas with wins. St.
Louis sent the Reds to an eleventh straight loss. The
Reds the last eleven games have just twenty runs scored total.
(02:27:20):
The Cubs scored twenty one today twenty one nothing. Cubs
was the final over Pittsburgh Yankees with two in the
bottom of the ninth edge Cleveland five to four. Tampa
Bay in a crazy game through nine no hit innings
using six pitchers that had to come from behind in
the tenth to beat Boston three to two. San Francisco
a winner Minnesota sent the White Sox to a sixth
straight loss, and the White Sox Eloy Jimenez left with
(02:27:42):
a torn hamstring. And the news from earlier today Miguel
Cabrera with career hit number three thousand. It occurred during
a double header as destroy Detroit split with Colorado. That
first game was detroitt to Nothing. Back to you, thank you,
Steve Segers his Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, by
the way, to Sager, have a great evening. Uh to
(02:28:03):
Saga will be back tomorrow, I believe with the with
the Evening Crew and the late night crew with Ernie
Spanier and Chris Plank. Jason, you know one time I say, wait, wait,
what what did I do? What? I asked me? If
I've got something on my mind? Darn? You know I
have a couple of things on my mind. But what's
on your mind? Jason Martin? Did you know that the
USFL was playing? Did you forget the USFL was playing yesterday? Uh? Yeah,
(02:28:28):
I mean I I happened to see it on my
TV Guide, but it wasn't like I didn't wake up
like another Saturday at USFL football coming down the pike today. So, yes,
it's week two, right, this is a second week. Last
week was the first week we're doing spring football again.
We we we both kind of had the same take
on this uh in stereo last week. And the big
(02:28:53):
point is that it will dwindle week to week. The
curiosity factor will drop, other words will be there. Everyone
will recognize that they don't really want to watch guys
that they've never heard of or don't really have any
equity in. And the NFL Draft is going to be happening,
and who knows what else is gonna happen after that.
(02:29:14):
They're gonna release the schedule in the NFL and made
the twelveth. We're in the second week, and until the
Sager mentioned it in the update, I had completely forgotten
it existed. Well, and the other thing too that I
seem to be noticing is it's a weird schedule is there.
They're on a bunch of different networks, which I understand
why you want to get you know, multiple media outlets
(02:29:36):
invested in it and to reiterate the point that we
made last week. Nobody's rooting against the individual players, the coaches,
the front office. We hope they have a ton of success.
But this is the third time in four years we've
started a summer football league, spring football league. Three years
ago it was the A a F, two years ago
it was the XFL. Obviously, last year because of COVID,
(02:29:57):
we didn't do much of anything out of the ordinary.
Arry Um. But you know, I think they had games
on Monday night, which was weird, and they also had
games like all day on Easter Sunday. And now, like
you said, they're competing with fourhead to head NBA playoff games,
they're competing with um, you know, they're Major League Baseball,
(02:30:18):
the NFL draft, UM. And you know, and I think
the other thing too, in addition to what you said
about players that we don't know, you know, we don't
have the historical equity that we do with a college
football program or an NFL team. The other thing too
is I do just think that other that people like,
you know, other teams outside of football, like this notion
(02:30:41):
that you can never have too much football. It's like
you can, you can. And the other thing is to like,
you know, just as an example, right, So I'm looking
at the USFL. You know the teams, right, like the
New Jersey. Maybe New Jersey is not a great example,
but you know the philadelp So there's a team and
you know, the Philadelphia Stars. I don't want to say
(02:31:02):
they're even based out of Philadelphia because all the games
are in Birmingham. Um, Like, people in Philadelphia this time
of year are invested in the Philadelphia seventy sixers. Like
it's not as though, you know, if if I don't know,
you know, obviously we have uh, you know, spring football
in college, but if there was some spring event related
to the Eagles, yeah, I could see Philadelphia in's putting aside,
(02:31:26):
you know, the seventy sixers or the Phillies for a
day or two. But you know, we do care about
other things besides football. And you know, I've been critical
of the NBA and all that stuff and some of
the things they've done. But but like this time of year,
people are invested in the NBA, people are invested in
Major League Baseball. People are invested in their college football
(02:31:48):
teams with their spring games, even if it's only for
a weekend. People are certainly invested in the NFL draft,
and so it's just we'll see what happens. And it
was funny because on Sunday, the very predict it moo
or maybe it was Monday Tuesday, I can't remember, the
very predictable press release about how great the ratings were
for a week one came out. Well, let's see week two,
let's see week three, let's see week four. And again,
(02:32:11):
nobody's rooting gets the players, nobody's rooting gets the coaches,
nobody's rooting against the gms. We hope everybody has success,
but history keeps telling us that this is not going
to work, and yet we keep trying to do it. Yeah, look,
you mentioned the Sixers in the Philadelphia example. Second on
that list is the Eagles in the draft, and it's
(02:32:33):
probably closer to its probably pretty close to number one.
They already have a football team and the markets that
don't no offense, but who cares? Like that's cool? And
I'm sure they might even have better attendance if they
were actually allowed to go somewhere other than Birmingham to
do it. But if you do want more football, or
(02:32:54):
you think you want more football, you want more really
good football where you know a bunch of stuff about it,
you care about it, you have fantasy teams, all of
these things. The only thing, and I said this about
the the XFL two years ago, I said, if you
want to try to care, find a team, pick it,
decide who you like, Go learn everything you can about them.
(02:33:16):
Just act like you want to become a fan of it.
Maybe you can will yourself into it. There are just
just that barrier to entry, right. There is enough for
me to never believe that a spring football league can work.
Not when the fall football league is what it is,
a seven three six sport now, and not when the
(02:33:39):
college football system is as big as it is. We
just finished watching great football. We're not now gonna watch
mediocre football. With all due respect everyone involved, because again
I love that they have an opportunity to chase their dreams.
I just can't see a scenario where this can never work. Yeah,
last thought, The only real time that it did work
was the original USFL, which was in the eighties, and
(02:34:01):
it worked because they had players people wanted to see.
They had, they they overpaid to get good players at
a time when college football players had to stay for
the entirety of their eligibility. Herschel Walker was in the league,
Steve Young was in the league, Jim Kelly was in
the league, and they didn't all come just because of
the eligibility thing. But this league does not have those guys.
And unless this league is gonna start you know, paying
(02:34:23):
for uh, you know, freshman and sophomores out of college
that people might be interested in, I don't see it
having success either. This is Fox Sports Radio eron towards
Jason Martin. One segment left hit. I'm kind of an
interesting topic that hit that came out today, that's coming
up Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio
eron towards Jason Martin. Here one segment left reminder after
(02:34:46):
us Bernie Fratto straight out of Vegas. All sorts of
good stuff on all the betting angles from the NBA
NFL Draft coming up, all that good stuff, Jason, I
you know, I had another story that I did want
to get to, but I don't know that we can
get to it. And I'll tell you why post game,
as we just discussed a minute ago. Minnesota wins Game
(02:35:09):
four against Memphis to tie the series up two to two,
and Taylor Jenkins, the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies,
was not happy with the referees after the game. Listen
to what he said, in my opinion, one of the
most poorly officiated games I've ever seen in my NBA career. Um,
all five of our starters are borderline foul out in
(02:35:30):
the first quarter, UM ten plus foul difference, forty free throws. Yeah,
some things we gotta clean up and get better at.
But I've never seen a more inconsistent and arrogant, um,
you know, officiated game. So I'll take whatever hits coming
my way. I gotta protect our guys. We know we've
got to get better. But I mean from the get go,
it was foul foul, foul, foul, foul, inconsistency. There was
(02:35:52):
actually one play where foul whistle was blown before contact
was even made. It's embarrassing, um, you know. But I'm
always gonna look in the mirror and say, how do
we play better? How do we coach better? Um? But
I'm gonna loss for words, and that's not I'm not
gonna go as far as saying that's the reason we lost,
but I'm gonna let it be known that that's that's
messed up and arrogance inconsistency and uh, big fan, you
(02:36:15):
know though, whatever arrogance inconsistency, big fan, Taylor Jacob's coming
in hot Jason, unbelievable. I will say, I'm looking at
the statue right now. The Grizzlies had ten more fouls
a total of thirty three, compared to the Minnesota Timberwolves
twenty three. The Timberwolves also attempted forty free throws. Uh,
(02:36:38):
Memphis just twenty five. Jason. Yeah, look, he's not wrong
to say that these guys were committing a lot of
fouls early or they were getting hit with him. I mean, uh,
John Morant didn't play much in the third quarter because
he was in He had four fouls like three minutes
into the third quarter. Bain had to take extended stretches
out in the second half because he had four or fouls.
(02:37:00):
They had massive foul trouble in the game. And I
do think that in the playoffs you gotta let him
play a little bit. And I and I can see
some of the things he's saying. I'll bet you one
of them was Karl Anthony Towns when he went down
and it looked like he was hurt. It wasn't a
foul on the play at least it wasn't clear. There
(02:37:22):
might have been a push from behind, but I'm not
even so sure that should have been it. And they
looked at it as if they were going to call
a flagrant because it was physical, but it didn't even
look like a foul was called. The problem here and
he says, I don't want to say this is why
we lost. He kinda is, because it was a four
point game and Baine hit the three right at the end.
(02:37:43):
It was just it wasn't going to win the game.
It was just the last second shot to get them
a one point loss. But if the foul discrepancy changes
even minimally in a game that was decided by one
slash four points, that could have made the difference. Like
a lot of time time, that can be small details.
So without saying it, here's what he's doing. He's trying
(02:38:05):
to make sure that officials in the next few games
are on notice. He's alright taking the slings here because
they already lost the game. If he loses a little
bit of money, that's fine. It's gonna inspire that team
because that team is young. That team is extremely emotional
in a positive sense, I should say. But they they
they play with a little bit of swag. They play
(02:38:25):
with intensity, which most Memphis teams have done throughout the years,
is at least the ones that are good. Uh. I
think that's what he's doing. He's lighting a fire under
his guys, and he's letting the NBA know, Hey, this
this ain't This ain't the way this needs to be called.
And now we'll see he's the name that maybe doesn't
get this, whereas if Phil Jackson did this twenty years ago,
(02:38:45):
it would lead shows for the next week and it
might affect officiating. This might not. But this is interesting.
I like a coach that's willing to go out there
and say this. One thing I don't get though. I
don't know if I've ever heard officiating called arrogant before.
That's a new one for me. The other thing, real quick,
we we gotta get out of here, Bernie Freddo coming up? Uh.
(02:39:08):
Producer Eric asked me this, have has have we ever
seen the referee call out immediately followed by like a
completely differently called game in the next game, Because I
don't know that that actually happens. Like I get white
guys do this. I don't know if it's ever happened before.
I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. I've seen stuff
happen in games where a coach gets a tech to
(02:39:28):
to to let the refs know it's getting one sided,
and then it swings the other way. We will see
Minnesota ties the series up at two game game five.
Excuse me on Tuesday, coming up, Bernie Frado straight out
of Vegas for Jason Martin. I'm Ara Torres. This is
Fox Sports for you.
