Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. Could Kevin Durant be going
where one man has gone before? That is the question.
Aaron Torres, get him on Twitter at Aaron Underscore Torres.
You can find me on Twitter at Dan Buyer. On Fox,

(00:21):
we continue to be on Kevin Durant watch as the
disgruntle I don't know if that's the right word. Maybe
just unhappy? That is that better? Aaron and describing Kevin
Durant as he tries to find a new home. But
that's what he is in the process of doing. His
word leaked earlier this week that he wanted out of Brooklyn,
and now we're hearing maybe about Miami, maybe about Phoenix,

(00:44):
and a new team has kind of entered the fray
in the Toronto Raptors. But it's just disgruntled. Good Is
that the way? Too? Uh? Unhappy? What do you what
do you like? Here's my question? Is there ever a
time when Kevin Durant is not disgruntled? I mean, he's
signing the contract and he's already got, he's already got,

(01:04):
you know whatever. But yes, I think that's a perfectly
fair description of where he is right now with the
state of the Brooklyn Nets with what we presumed to
be his best friend, Kyrie Irving, and yes, it remains
the biggest story in sports here on the holiday weekend. Now,
he could join the likes of Lebron James and trying
to force his way to Miami. I mean, Lebron chose Miami,

(01:27):
but maybe Durant ends up shortening his list. But you
could also go in a spot where the Toronto Raptors
have reportedly now UH have some interest in Kevin Durant
and the reported package if he were to go to
Toronto would include last year's star rookie Scottie Barnes as
part of that deal. Phoenix has also been brought up

(01:47):
as part of the equation as Kevin Durant looks for
a new home that is not in Brooklyn, and we
don't know if it'll be next to Kyrie Irving or not.
But from everything that we've kind of gathered over the
Lasst week is Kyrie ends up opting into his contract
because the deal couldn't be work done. The market for
Kyrie is very slim in the NBA, But it's a

(02:09):
different story when it comes to Kevin Durant and you
and I were together on Friday of the Doug Gotlips
Show here on the Network, and we have talked about
the possibilities of maybe where Durant could go place here
or there. But it was also brought up of is
this move by Kevin Durant? Your point is when he
isn't is he not disgruntled? Is a very very good point.

(02:31):
But is this move by Kevin Durant worse than what
he did in Oklahoma City in leaving the thunder and
joining the Warriors and going to their uh than going
on and winning an NBA title while the Thunder then
began a slow decline when he left. Now the Brooklyn
Nets are set scrambling after what three years one of
which Kevin Durant didn't even play for the Brooklyn Nets.

(02:53):
Three years in Brooklyn, two of which on the court,
and he's now left them empty handed. I felt in
a way that it was worse than what he did
to Oklahoma City. And I hated what he did to
Oklahoma City because they were so close to a championship,
but I also realized that he did give Oklahoma City
a lot of good years and and and the thought
process that I had just quickly just to the point,

(03:16):
Aaron is that he really didn't give Brooklyn a chance.
And so that's kind of my issue on maybe maybe
this is worse than what he did to Oklahoma City.
You know, I've heard this this just this topic, just
in what we do and people that I respect. What
is the argument that what he did to Oklahoma City
is worse than what he did to Brooklyn? Is it
just that they were one game away from beating the

(03:37):
Warriors going to the finals? Because yeah, I I just
look at it, and I say, you know, he gave
them all this time. Um, you know, he he left
them after he deemed that he couldn't get over the top.
He left them with another superstar, He left them with
draft picks, He left them with a path towards six,
you know, continuing to have success. And he left again.

(03:58):
And I know I just said it, but at close
to a decade or right around a decade um in
Oklahoma City. Now, I know, the argument is that that
they were one game away from the finals. And I
know the argument would be that, you know, obviously you
can't replace Kevin Durant, just like you can't replace Lebron
James when he leaves your organization. Or whomever else, you know,
whatever superstar you want to pick. But I think there's

(04:19):
no doubt because to me, it's not just the time
frame Dan. Literally every decision that has been made since
the weeks leading up to Kevin Durant signing have been
made to appease Kevin Durant. Uh. You go back to
the day they signed, they added DeAndre a in or
DeAndre and DeAndre Jordan. Excuse me, a guy that I

(04:40):
think we all kind of saw the writing on the wall.
When you're seven feet and you can't step out more
than five feet from the basket, you don't have much
value in the modern NBA. What is DeAndre Jordan In
the last few years? Obviously the coaching situation, Kenny Atkinson
was there, they had just made the playoffs before Katie
and Kyrie get there. Uh, Katie's out, Kenny Atkinson's gone.
They trade, They trade for James Harden because it's what
Kevin Durant wants, trade a million draft picks, all that

(05:01):
good stuff. Obviously, Um, you know everything. So I can
go on and on. I've heard this conversation come up.
I just don't think there's a legitimate argument to the
other side. That he left Oklahoma City and worst shape
or what he did to Oklahoma City was worse than
what he is currently doing in Brooklyn. The move of Brooklyn,
and I was trying to find parallels, as we always

(05:23):
try to do. It's kind of like you get the
you get this star rock band coming to town, and
then they just go to your hotel, or they go
to your arena and just absolutely destroy it, and then
they leave without any repercussions. They're onto the next thing,
and then everybody else is there left to clean up
everything else. Maybe uh, maybe a college house party could

(05:44):
be a better example of that of guys just come
over wrecked the house, they leave, they go home and
sleep in their beds, and whoever held the house party
are the ones that are left there to clean everything up.
That's what it seems like has happened in Brooklyn. And
I think what happens Aaron is the reason why maybe
we we don't think that it is as bad as

(06:05):
what he did in Oklahoma City is because of how
strong that fan bases in Oklahoma City. And I think
that there is still like Brooklyn is still trying to
develop some sort of identity, trying to develop some sort
of fan base. I mean, realistically, they're relatively two new

(06:25):
teams to the NBA, and when you look at it
from the grand scale, but I think, like when you
think of that's the that's the only thing in Oklahoma City, uh,
in terms of professional sports, whereas in Brooklyn they're not
even the number one team in New York. And I
think that that plays a part in it as well.
And I think of him just leaving for the better

(06:46):
team or the team that beat him, and you know,
if you can't beat him, join them sort of aspect.
I think that that piled onto the Oklahoma City thing.
But in terms of you know, where these franchises are
and what was the hope and what you were allowed
to do, at least Oklahoma City had a lot of
say in how things played out with their roster. Maybe
it's maybe we should blame Brooklyn for allowing Kevin Durant

(07:08):
to have, you know, so much power, But then again,
you don't get Kevin Durant if you don't allow him
to have this sort of power. And so that's why
I think maybe some of the things are are a
little clouded towards the Oklahoma said they hated the move
when he left the Thunder, I couldn't stand it, especially
because it was to the Warriors. But I think all
of those factors are the reasons why maybe we're not
looking at this with the same sort of microscope as

(07:29):
we did the other move. And the only thing I
could say is, you know, when he left Oklahoma City,
it was awful. And again, there's no replacing Kevin Durant,
There's no replacing any player of that caliber, all time
great player. But when he left, like I said, when
he left Oklahoma City, there was still very much a
path to compete. And I think one of my always biggest,

(07:49):
my biggest criticisms of Lebron James, and I'll bring it
back to Kevin Durant is Lebron James comes in, he
expects everyone to acquiesce to everything that he wants. Trade
this guy, trade this draft pick. I want this guy,
I want that guy. I don't care if we have
to go into the luxury tax. And then when he
decides that he has basically to use a sponge alley
analogy wrung all of the water out of the sponge,

(08:10):
he just says, Okay, I'm good, I'm gone, Let's get
out of here um and so that's what he did
in Cleveland, that's what he's doing right now with the
Lakers um and that's what Kevin duranted. Like like like when
Kevin Durant left, Okay, see, that was a team that
still made the playoffs for multiple years after he left.
I know they never got out of the first round
with Russ as the superstar of the team. I get
all that, but they they had again, they had draft picks,

(08:31):
they had an avenue to compete. You leave Brooklyn, you
have no draft picks, you have no uh, you just
I don't know. Once he made that decision, they're going
right towards another major rebuild. And I know there's mixed
reports where they still have Ben Simmons and can they
can all that stuff? They have nothing. They have nothing
that makes me believe that they are going to be

(08:52):
anything close to competitive a year ago. That's just what
I keep coming back to when I think about this situation.
I find it funny when because we were on the
air Frinday, as I mentioned, when the Rudy Gobert deal
went down and we found out how much Minnesota was
giving up to Utah for Gobert, and then the conversation
shifts to, man, what are the Nets gonna get for

(09:12):
Kevin Durant? And I honestly think Aaron probably less, probably
because I just don't. I think there are only certain
places that they can go. There are only certain things
that teams can give up. I mean, it was such
an enormous package that Minnesota gave up. But when we're
you know, we didn't hear it. We didn't hear a
list of Hey, Rudy Gobert wants to go to the Lakers,

(09:35):
the Sons, and he wants to go to the next Like,
we didn't hear that list. He just ends up being
dealt to the Portland Trailblazers who had an interest Durant
having this list of teams. And obviously they're only gonna
be so many contenders. That's really what it is that
that I think makes it limited as well for what
Brooklyn can get in return. And yeah, they're gonna have

(09:55):
some pieces, but realistically, the most that anybody can give
them is Draft Hicks and the whole, the whole. Brian
Windhorse thing from ESPN this past week was, Hey, the
Utah Jazz are thinking about, you know, maybe tearing this
baby down and rebuilding this thing back up and tanking
and shipping Gilbert and others out of town. That was
kind of the thought process to it, and then that

(10:18):
ends up happening, And I just I don't know if
Brooklyn's I don't know if Brooklyn's ready for that. And
I just don't think that there are other teams that
when you have a list of Miami and Phoenix, maybe Toronto,
I just I don't see a package that could really
even top with Minnesota got because it was so extreme
for Gilbert. No, and it's an interesting conversation about, you know,

(10:40):
and then the other element of it, which something you know,
Jason Martin and I talked about. I think you and
I might have talked about it as well. Uh Now, now,
Kevin Durant privately appears to be trying to dictate which
players he wants to play with in the spots. So
the report was he only wants Miami if Kyle Lowry,
bam Adebayo, and Jimmy Butler are there. It's like, well,
I know that there's complications with trading bam out of Bio,

(11:00):
but you're freaking Kevin Durant. You think we're just gonna
give away, you know, two first rounders and and and
to end of bench players now. So it's surreal and
it speaks to I think a lot of what we
talked about on Friday is this guy is an incredible
basketball talent that just says absolutely no awareness off the
court at all. You know, I would help Durant, and
I and I and I truly believe this. It would

(11:22):
really help Durant because when the day he made the
trade request, I said, I thought he should go to
Oklahoma City. Sure, I thought that that would be I mean,
we just talked about the Rudy Gobert deal in a
team probably not having enough to to bring in Kevin Durant.
Oklahoma City has the draft picks, like I mean, they've

(11:42):
got They've got draft picks on top of draft picks.
If they wanted to do it, the question would be
what sort of players would you end up having to
give up to make that sort of deal. But what
I think it would also do Aaron is even if
Kevin Durant didn't want Oklahoma City, he should leak that
that is an option because it makes it look like, hey,

(12:05):
Durant's willing to come back here and and by the way.
Imagine how much heat would then be on Russell Westbrook,
like like right now, Like that's a token that Durant
could use to be like, see, you just wanted to
get away from Russell Westbrook. Now that Russ has gone, uh,
you know, Katie's coming back, but he has leverage because
Westbrook is terrible and nobody wants them correct. Correct. So

(12:26):
if Kevin Durant had any sort of you know, really
savvy nature, that would leak out. And by the way,
let Sam Presty be the one to be like, you
know what, we're good here, Kevin, We're not you know,
like we're not willing to do that or to to
shoot it down. Just put it out there like like that,
because they could be an option, put it in their court.

(12:47):
Maybe ultimately it's not what you want to do. But
I think that would be a unique story. I think
that would be a crazy story and honestly would do
so much goodwill for Durant, who's had a lot of
trouble and hurrying that goodwill as he leaves wherever he
wants to be. What I would say really quickly is
all I know is I think there's only two scenarios

(13:07):
in this where Kevin Durant comes out not having egg
on his face. In terms of public perception, one would
be to say, publicly, uh, you know, I committed to
Brooklyn for four years. I've chased other things before. Yes,
in emotion and in frustration, I did demand a trade,
but but I'm sending that publicly, I'm gonna stay in
Brooklyn for the time being. Let's rebuild this thing together

(13:30):
independent of who is going to be playing with me.
And then I think the other thing is, as you said,
go to Okay see, go to where it all started,
go to where you're loved um and and you know, again,
I'm not saying it will happen. I'm just saying if
you're looking for for ways, and I don't think that
he cares about public perception. I think he is just
so out of touch with what the public perception actually is.

(13:50):
I think that's actually as big as problem. But again,
if you're looking for a way to save face publicly
and potentially look like the good guy out of all this,
to me, those are really the only two options. I
think you brought up the point Friday like he chose
the two teams that were leaked out with the two
teams that are the best regular season records prints this
past year. But he's not a bandwagon jumper, you know,
Charles Barkley as the audascy to say that you're a

(14:12):
bandwagon jumper or whatever. You get all offended and then
you demand to trade the second things get tough and
the only teams you want to go to are literally
the first place teams in the East and West in
the NBA. Kevin durant saga will continue. It would do
him good if he could just just throw out Oklahoma City.
Get people chewing on that, and I think that maybe

(14:33):
some of the narrative around Kevin Durant will turn around.
He's Aeron Torres. I'm Dan Buyer. This is Fox Sports Sunday.
Coming up later in the show. Aaron and I big
on the news this past week, USC and U C
l A leaving the Big Ten. We are going to
have our conference realignment draft. Aaron is going to represent
the SEC. I will represent the Big Ten. We will

(14:53):
get to pick schools from the Big twelve. We will
get to pick schools from the Pack twelve. We will
get to pick schools from the A C. C. You
can tweet at us who you think these conferences should
go after Get Aaron on Twitter at Aaron Underscore Torres.
Find me on Twitter at Dan Buyer. On Fox that
comes up at seven o'clock Eastern Time, but coming up next,
Aaron Torres tells us why a Super Bowl contender could

(15:15):
be headed for the basement in their division that next
year on Fox Sports Sunday, Fox Sports Sunday. He's Aeron Torres.
I'm Dan buyerra Happy Fourth of July weekend to you.
I hope you're enjoying things and being safe. I think
a lot of people may be celebrating a little bit today, Aaron,
because of the Monday holiday and then a lot of

(15:37):
people have to go back to work on Tuesday. So
if you're really gonna go hard on fourth July weekend,
tonight's the day to do it. Recover half of tomorrow,
and then enjoy yourself for the rest of tomorrow night.
I will tell you just from just kind of talking
to friends and being on social media, it seems as though,

(15:57):
to your point, a lot of people went hard yesterday,
a lot of people appear to be going hard today
and t b a on tomorrow. I can't speak for everybody,
but you know, I know that most people I know,
as you said, have to work on on Tuesday. So
the fourth itself maybe have some burgers, uh, I know,
Steve and Rich we're talking about Joey Chestnut. Watch a
little Joey Chestnut and then get ready for the week ahead.

(16:18):
Well you are going to get ready for Monty Bolanos.
At the bottom of the hour, she'll give us the
latest of what's happening on this July three. We'll talk
about major League Baseball and the July fourth holiday coming
up at the top of the hour. But I bring
in Monty's name because I mentioned that on Friday, Aaron,
You and I were in and Monsey was in as well,
and we were in for Doug Gottlieb on The Doug
Gottlieb Show. And there's a segment or Doug legs to

(16:39):
look ahead to stuff and it's called psychic and there
are a lot of different things out there, and we
uh kim believe I think we ran out of time,
uh or we just maybe didn't get to the question.
But it was a question that was gonna be posed
as we look ahead to the NFL season. And I
went to the store last night and I saw some
football magazines on the magazine rack ready to go. I

(17:00):
didn't purchase any yet because they weren't necessarily to my
exact likings. What football season is almost here, I mean
training camps will begin at the end of the month.
The question that was gonna be posed by Monsey was
who's the last place team in the a f C West.
Who's gonna take last place in the now ultra competitive
a f C West in two And they weren't tours.

(17:22):
You weighed in with the name that I did not
foresee coming uh from the four teams. Of of the
four teams that were there, it was actually the least
that I was expecting. Who do you think is gonna
be in the cellar of the a f C West?
So you know, I I don't know that in the
grand scheme of my strongest opinions about two NFL season

(17:43):
that this is like my most definitive I'm standing, I'm
gonna make it. I'm gonna make it. I'm not gonna
make it. Your your your big one. I have the
Kansas City Chiefs finishing in last place, and is that
because of Tyreek Hill. There's two reasons why. So first
of all, there's really three. One that to asion is great.
Everybody's picking the Raiders. The Raiders just made the playoffs.
I mean all four, well three of those teams could

(18:06):
have been playoff teams. Obviously there was a scenario I
believe on that last night when when Brandon Staley chose
to kick the field whatever there are take a time
out whatever that those that we almost did have three
teams and obviously the Broncos ad Russell Wilson. But my
argument is is twofold is one. You know, we've we've
reached this weird space and we got there. You know,

(18:26):
we call Patrick Mahomes and Steph Curry of the NFL,
and we got there with Steph Curry like three or
four years ago, where there were real holes in Steph
Curry's game, not like you know, he's terrible, but but
but everybody was afraid to call him out. And I
think we're kind of there with Patrick Mahomes right now. Right.
I mean, first of all, let's never forget they went
they they started last season three and four, and then

(18:47):
when they started to play well late in the year,
it wasn't because of Patrick Mahomes, was because of the defense.
Here are some of their wins. They start three and four.
They beat the New York Football Giants seventeen. They beat
the Green Bay Packers in a game that Aaron Rodger
Smith with COVIDT thirteen to seven, sev thirteen and seven.
They do beat the Vegas Raiders fourteen, they beat the
Dallas Cowboys nineteen and nine. They beat the Denver Broncos

(19:10):
two to nine. And so I think there's this this
thought that you know, everything was fixed by the end
of the season. The offense wasn't good last year, and
people are afraid to criticize. People are afraid to go
out on a limb and criticize Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.
I don't think it was really Andy Reid. I think
Patrick Mahomes was not playing very good football. But the
other reason is the one that you just brought up,

(19:32):
is that I think Tyreek Hill is one of the
few true difference makers outside of the quarterback position. And
it's funny, right because you know, our buddy Colin Cowherd
is kind of kind of coined this term that there's
kind of a wide receiver bubble, that everybody's overpaying these guys,
and that there's gonna be a next group coming right
off the conveyor belt. In the NFL draft. We saw

(19:53):
it this year. Tennessee gives up a J. Brown, then
they draft his replacement with Treylon Burks. I get that,
and this is obviously no means a criticism in any way,
shape or form of Colin. I do think that Tyreek
Hill is the one exception to that, though. I don't
think that there's another guy that's five ft eight that's
by far the fastest player in the league that can

(20:13):
touch that can score a touchdown every single time he
touches the ball like Tyreek Hill, And when you don't
have him, I think it fundamentally changes how you have
to play. Now, they'll still score, they'll still be interesting,
they'll still be exciting, but that guy changes so much
because if he just runs a straight line down the field,
you gotta account for it. That allows Travis Kelsey to
do what he does, that allows the running back out

(20:35):
of the backfield. And I'm not claiming to be an
next as an oh guy, So I just think that
they were probably despite making the FC Championship game, they
probably weren't quite as good as I think a lot
of people remember and then on top of that, I
do think that Tyreek Hill is a true difference maker.
And and this isn't just a guy that you can
just replace with a draft pick or or a young

(20:57):
guy or whatever, if that makes sense. I find it crazy,
absolutely crazy that the last road game the Kansas City
Chiefs played was in the seat in the playoffs. Road
game in the playoffs was in season in January. And
to see there, to see them play all these home

(21:17):
games throughout the playoffs that they they have, you know,
over these last five or six years, it makes me
when I see what happened against the Bengals, when you
see and we've kind of we you know, we saw
it before with other teams coming back, and we saw
what happened in the Bills game and just how close
it was, and you mentioned those close games. I think

(21:39):
that you're right on with we give them, we always
give them the benefit of the doubt. And you've mentioned
earlier on with the Raiders, and I don't think we
ever give the Raiders the benefit of the doubt. And
and and so I think a lot of that is fair.
I look at that division, and I do think that
Kansas City is going away from let's put forty points

(22:01):
on the board. It looks like that the Chargers are
going that way. It looks like the Raiders are going
that way with the addition of Davante Adams, and now
a lot of people love what the Broncos are doing
with the addition of of Russell Wilson and all of
their weapons there. I wonder what everybody is zigging if
the chief zagging is going to make a make a difference.
And the only thing that I would I would say

(22:21):
against of what you were saying, just in the game situation.
And I know I'm contradicting myself, but it's I just
find it so difficult as a whole to think that
they won't figure out something. They may finish third, they
may finish second, um, but I don't think that they're
going to finish last, because I think that in a

(22:43):
game situation they can usually figure things out. And and
so that that and and I have questions about I
have more questions with Denver than I think certain people do.
I'm not completely sold about real quick. I think there's
just this is thought that be like and it's one
of these things that we tend to do in the
media somebody says something and then everybody just kind of

(23:05):
latches on board and takes it as gospel. Uh. Like
there's this thought of like, oh, you know the Broncos, like, well,
you know, they're they're really just a quarterback away, and
it's like, yeah, I get that. You know, there's some
guys on that defense that are interesting. I understand that
some of those young skill position guys are interesting, but like, a,
are we are we positive they're they're that good? Are

(23:25):
we positive that whether it is Courtland Sun and Jerry
Judy whoever, that all they need just give them a Like,
I I don't know, It's just it's that part does
feel a little bit presumptuous to me. It's like they're
just a quarterback away. I'm like, I watched the you know,
the um you know if the uh I'm trying to
think off the top of my head, the Tampa Bay

(23:45):
Bucks were just a quarterback away when they got Tom Brady.
I don't know that I would put the Tampa Bay
Bucks personnel the day before Tom Brady signed with the
Denver Broncos personnel. The day before that, Russell Wilson got
traded there giveaway Noah fan as well as you know
part of that deal to bring him in, So maybe
they're the tight end position is going to take a

(24:07):
bit of a drop with Denver. I'm with you. I
think with Russell Wilson as well, his finger injury and
him rushing back to play last season didn't really give
Seattle a lot of benefits, and I'm curious to see
how he responds from that injury. He's fully healed, because
there were throws that he made when he returned that

(24:28):
Russell Wilson never made before. They were off target. They
just they were nowhere in the vicinity of of where
a receiver was, and you wondered, Okay, did you rush
back too soon for a team that that Well, they
don't feel that they needed him, but I think a
lot of people felt that they needed But the question
is now, how much do you let Russ Cook? You
have that two headed monster in the backfield? Is the

(24:49):
finger ready? I think there are more questions in Denver
than people want to admit. He's Aeron Torres. I'm Dan Buyer.
This is a Fox Sports Sunday. I mentioned her a
little bit earlier. Let's jump over to the news desk.
Mont Blanoski being us the latest of what is happening
on this Sunday. We appreciate Monty, we appreciate her bringing
the great content that we could use to talk about,
and we appreciate the latest what's going on. You're so kind.

(25:11):
Thank you. I forgive you then for scheduling me on
Tuesday at five am. You guys were talking about not
being able to party on fourth of July. Who are
you telling? Who are you telling? We're gonna be here
till eleven pm? Dan, I don't know what your plans.
I think, Yeah, Team No Sleep, remember just Team No Sleep.
I'm not gonna be throwing them down at three o'clock

(25:31):
and then showing up. Well, well, Monty's watching the Grand
finale at Aaron and I are going to be like,
I don't think kyrie works. You know, that's what's gonna
be happening. The only fireworks we get to each other dance. Yea,
those are good fireworks. I hate fireworks. I just had
this whole conversation with a Lot Show. I'm not a
fan of the fireworks. I'm over it unless you're at

(25:52):
Disneyland at a Dodger game. A city does it for
New year's stop everyone at home, stop stop doing fine?
What about your random neighbor three blocks down? Don't get
me started. Yesterday at like midnight, car alarms are going
off because of all the bombs they were going they
were using, and it's like, what's the point of this?
What is the point? This is a distinctly l a
thing I've never lived or been anywhere else that people

(26:14):
just decided to start shooting off fireworks on like June
and keep it going to like July. What are we doing?
I don't know. It is so frustrating, so frustrating. But
let's go on to a little baseball. A lot of
games have already finished, and we had an exciting one,
the Braves and the Reds, super exciting. The Braves were
actually down entering the ninth They ended up tying the game.

(26:35):
But that's not how the game ended, of course not.
It ended up with an RBI single They walked it
off the Reds to beat the Braves. Very exciting game.
The Braves, though, entering today's game, in the last twenty
nine games they were twenty three and six. They've been
super hot. Not today, the Reds wanted walking off in
the ninth inning, We also had a game going to
ten innings the Nationals and the Marlins. Now, the Marlins

(26:57):
won seven four. Kuan Sodo had to leave the game
in the fourth inning with an apparent leg injury. Throughout
the whole game, he was doing weird things with his knees,
so it seemed like something was bothering him, and then
he got stuck in a rundown between third base and
then home and he walked out, didn't return. Yeah, I
am not a Nationals fan by any means, but I

(27:19):
was very interested in their game today, very exciting playing
in about ten minutes. Um, I would hate to be
a Nationals fan. Let me just put it that way.
We're gonna get into more in this in about ten
minutes for just how it played out today. But yeah,
I did have a vested interest in Marlin's Nationals Juan
Sotos in your fantasy league or no, there's a little
bit more to it. There's a little bit more to

(27:40):
it in minutes, gotcha? Gotcha? Well, the Guardians shut out
the best team in baseball, the Yankees, two to zero.
Aaron Judge was not in the starting lineup, he did
pinch it in the ninth Indian and was walked. The
Yankees only had one hit, Josh Donaldson. That's it. That's
not how you win games. The Birds blank the Pirates
two to zero. Josh Hayter recorded his major league leading
twin t fifth save of the season with today's victory.

(28:03):
We also had victories from the Royals, the Orioles, the Rays,
who beat the Blue Jay seven three, scoring six runs
in the fifth inning alone, while the Mets beat the
Rangers four to one. Now some of the games going
on right now. We just had a tie game between
the Angels and the Astros, and not only Astros are
wunning Boo, they're beating the Angels four to two. We
also have a tie game between the Red Sox and
the Clubs in the eighth inning at to a piece,

(28:24):
while the Diamondbacks are beating the Rockies and the White
Sox are blanking the Giants three to zero. The Dodgers
up one zero. Mooky Bets was out two weeks with
the crack rib. He went up to the plate, scored
a double, and then Trade Turner another double, and then
they got on the board. So they're beating the Pirates,
the Pirates, excuse me, the Padres one to zero and
a lot of NBA talk, But Gore and Dragic has
officially signed with the Chicago Bulls for one year. There

(28:47):
were rumors where he might have teamed up with his
fellow Slavonian player Luka don Chich and the Mavericks. That
is not happening. Officially signed with the Chicago Bulls. Today
was the British Grand Prix. I don't know if you
guys saw the crash that happened. Nuts, two cars crashed,
But what was crazy is one car flipped over to
the wrong side of the tire barriers at turn one

(29:08):
and he would have gone into the stands except there
was a fence that stopped him. Surprisingly, the driver, if
you look at him, not a scratch on his face,
you would not know that that guy was just in
a major car accident. And moments after that, there were
protesters that went onto the track and actually stood on

(29:28):
the track. One car went through them, avoided them, and
the only reason that nobody was hit is because of
the crash that had just happened. There were already red
flags like singling on telling people to slow down, but
a car actually went through one of the protesters. Nuts, guys,
that's not how you do it. If you want to
tie yourself up to a court in the basketball game,
that's fine. Protesters during the NBA playoffs that were like them, Yes,

(29:52):
except these I think are environmental activists and the ones
for the NBA had to do I'm pretty sure with
animal cruelty. Well, I'll tell you what this car, the
crash that Monty was talking about. Saw it on social media,
like a car was sliding air and almost like a
skipping rock on a lake, but upside down like it was.
It was. It was going in circles. It was crazy

(30:13):
and then flipped over into Monsey's point. Only separate fence
separated it from from going into the stands. But as
it I will tell you bet you know, I know
Monsey thinks she's the only one that doesn't get much
sleep here, but uh, I was in studio till eleven
pm last night. So I woke up this morning and
I saw Todd Firm and our buddy you know from
from out in Vegas tweeting about this exact thing. So

(30:35):
I haven't seen the video yet. I can find it
really quickly. But he had some like pretty intense thoughts
about how crazy that was, Like the first thing I
saw when I woke up this morning. Glad everybody's safe
to that aspect. Thanks many because his Fox Sports Sunday.
You can find Monty on Twitter at mont Blan, get
Aaron Torres on Twitter at Aaron Underscore Tours, and you
can find me Dan Buyer on Twitter at Dan Buyer.

(30:56):
On Fox I mentioned Marlins and Nationals. It was a
friendly wager. It was not a wager of any kind,
but we put to the test of what's the best
way I don't know to have a little scratch on
the line when it comes to sporting events. We'll discuss
next year on Fox Sports Sunday. Hey, this is Jason McIntyre.

(31:46):
Fox Sports Sunday. He's Aaron Torres, I'm Dan Buyerre glad
to have you with us. Ryan ber Singer's the show's
executive producer, Bobar technical producer today and mont Blanos at
the news desk. I want everybody in on this one,
uh because I mentioned with when Monty has given us
the latest of what was happening, that the Nationals and
Marlins were of more of interest to me than another game.

(32:09):
And Aaron, I know it's crazy why anybody would have
a Marlins Nationals uh sort of interest in that game,
but it was because I'm in a survivor pool in
Major League Baseball. Okay, yeah, exactly. It's it's the exact
response that I get from everyone. And I want to
start with, okay with your marriage, and I'm just making

(32:30):
sure I'm sure, But this is this is the point
that it comes down to, of of with gambling becoming
so prevalent in in the country, what I want to
find out is where you are in terms of do
you prefer maybe placing a wager when you're in Vegas
on a single game. Do you like the n C

(32:50):
Double A tournament pools? Do you like fantasy football, and
it doesn't have to be, you know, just with those sports.
I just think that there's a difference between betting on games,
playing fantasy sports, and getting into pools. Like I think
that there are three different areas. And the reason I
say this is because I took my first loss of

(33:12):
the week in this Survivor Major League Baseball pool because
the Nationals didn't win half their games are more this week,
and they lost this heartbreaker to the Marlins today. And
the point is is, and I'm sitting here and I'm like,
I'm gutted, just gut it. I'm not knocked out completely,
but have a strike against me. And the point is is,
if I was to be betting on that game and

(33:33):
I just picked the Nationals and lost, I could make
another bet and maybe like wash away that that angst.
But I think that's the journey down the road to nowhere,
you know what I mean. Like so like in reality,
like when I look at it, I like fantasy sports
in pools much more than just betting on individual games. Yeah,

(33:56):
I think they all, you know, have their See I'm
not I'm some moody that. Yeah, when I'm in Vegas
and right now California, has not legalized sports betting. Um,
I'm not somebody like like there's some people who like
to have action on everything, Like I like to lie
to myself and pretend as though I think that I
have an edge before I bet on something. I'm not
just somebody like, hey, who you betten in this uh

(34:17):
Canucks game tonight, Like let's get some action on it
like that. That's not what I'm about. Um So I
think it's fun. I do think if you're sitting in
a sports book all day and you're you're you're you're
in in on the same bets with your friends, I
think that has uh you know, that can be very
entertaining and all that stuff. But you know, I just
I don't foresee even when sports betting is legal in

(34:37):
my state, that I'm gonna be sitting there, you know
again on a Tuesday night and and wanna want to
just have action on the Miami Heat Charlotte Hornets game,
if that makes sense. So so, so you get into
maybe a bracket contest here, they're right, I would say, so, yeah,
they play fantasy football. I used to play fantasy sports.
I do not anymore. Okay, there you go that maybe

(34:58):
third on your list, then you know, like that's not
as appealing to you. But if you had to just,
you know, place a wager when you're in Vegas, visiting
mom or doing whatever, maybe in there for the conference tournaments,
would you rather would you rather like take part in
an n C double a tournament pool or would you
rather just lay the bet on the single game. I
think the pool is more fun because you know, you're

(35:19):
competing against so many other people, and and and survivor
pools are fun too, I was, I was just teasing
about the MLB Survivor pool. Uh, Survivor pools are really fun.
I I've I've been in a few of them, and
I have a lot of fun with those as well.
So I'm not you know, I like to recreationally gamble
and gamble responsibly. Um, So I like everything, But I'm
not like way more into one than the other. I

(35:41):
will say, the fantasy element of it, that's just something,
like I said, I just don't have enough time in
my life to do that anymore. But even that, I
when I was younger, I did enjoy playing against friends
and competing and also everybody like that. So Ryan bur Singers,
the executive producer, of the show. He's also the executive
producer of the podcast To Do with Mike Harmon about
fantasy football, I Want your Fly, Ryan bur Singer, of

(36:01):
the three, Where do they fall for you? Well, yeah,
you know, fantasy is number one for me. I enjoy
I mean it's I think the thing I enjoy the
most about fantasy sports is the like roster construction element
of it. Um And so I have a lot of
fun doing that. And Bobo looked at me like I'm
a weirdo for saying, don't worry, We're gonna get to

(36:23):
him in the sex so you can look back at
But but I mean also like, yeah, when I go
to Vegas, I throw down money on games and I
enjoyed that. And I think the difference between like betting
on games and betting on pools, like like you mentioned
is is there's a more competitive aspect to to the
pools and and the bracket challenges and stuff like that. Um.
So I enjoy all of the above, but I find

(36:45):
myself in way too many fantasy leagues. All right, Bobo,
you have the opportunity. The counterpoint, bur Singer, you're laying money,
where is it gonna be betting I'm not a fantasy person.
I don't have the time. I don't have the patience
to sit there and follow. It's a big part of it. Yeah,
it's it's a lot of time and and and a
lot of energy to like espression in baseball, Uh, to

(37:05):
watch it in basketball, to watch in football, just fantasy
period is too much. If I'm in Vegas, I'll just
go straight there and just put the money down on
who I think is gonna go for it. Yeah. That
that's the other part of it, is like if you're
gonna wag just something, you're like, all right, I want
to watch this game watching. That's what everybody that is
with me. Monsey at the news desk, do you do
you play fantasy sports? Oh? Do? We don't have many there?

(37:26):
All right, she's she's like, none of them. I don't
want any of them. But the problem with like like
like today, so like I took this l and it's
not about me. It's just the point of when you
win a bet, you think you can do it again.
To to Ryan's point about like roster management, like I
think there's a little bit more it's not as luck based.

(37:46):
There's there's more skill into the fantasy you have more
aspects to to consider and and but I just personally
taking part in it. That speaks to what me and
Bubba are talking about. Though it absolutely takes more skill,
it also takes if you're playing Fantasy bay s ball,
you gotta watch that waiver wire every night. Oh this
guy went for four tonight? If that guy is that
a guy like I used to play fantasy baseball when

(38:07):
I was in college. I had fun, I had this,
I had that, and it's like it's a commitment. It's
a grind. You think, Mike, You know, Mike Trout's tired
by the end of a hundred sixty two games. Imagine
watching that waiver wire from mid March to October. So
I have a buddy who sets his alarm, I swear
at like four thirty in the morning for when our
waiver wire clears, and then you're able to pick up

(38:30):
whoever you want during fantasy football season because the time
codes on his transactions are just so absolutely ridiculous. And
so yeah, to your point, there is I will say
this about pools that, like an ncuble terminal pool is
the perfect example. When you're national champion has knocked out
of the first round. It is difficult if you don't

(38:52):
have a team in there to have any interest for
the final two weeks. And when you losing a pool
and there's still some of that event to go, it
is such a empty feeling like most fantasy leagues, like
maybe you're not winning and you just kind of don't
pay attention because you're out of it. But the league
ends when it ends, like the pool, it just kind
of seems like because it's maybe like a once a

(39:13):
year sort of you know sort of thing that when
it ends, there's just like, oh, it ended early, and
now I gotta wait another eleven and a half months
to do this again. Like there's that aspect of the
pool that I think makes you in that much more
into it in that short period of time that it's
going on if you are winning. So that's why think
there's the good and the bad of it. The I
guess the good part of the of the betting on

(39:34):
games is just what I said off the top is
if you lose, I guess what, there's another game tonight,
or there's another game to next the next day. Yeah. Absolutely,
that's the that's the slow drain that I want absolutely
no part of it is Fox Sports Sunday. He is
Aaron Torres. I'm Dan Buyer, and I appreciate you guys,
uh dealing with my Nationals. Marlin's lost. Marlins fans are

(39:57):
all happy about it. It is baseball on the fourth
of July weekend. But could it be better? That's next
year on Fox Sports Sunday. Fox Sports Radio has the
best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of
our shows at Fox Sports Radio dot com and within
the I Heart Radio app search f s R to
listen live. It's a tradition unlike any other. And that's

(40:18):
because I'm not sure if it's a tradition or not
welcome in. It is Fox Sports Sunday. So much baseball
going on on this July three. There are a bunch
of baseball. It's gonna be taking place tomorrow, Aaron. And
this is where, this is where the conversation begins, because
the NFL and Thanksgiving Day really go hand in hand

(40:41):
for for as long as we can remember. We've we've
woken up, We've helped with Thanksgiving dinner or lunch or
however you get it all set up. But the Lions
are on and the Cowboys are on and now we've
got a third game. But it's always been a fabric
of a Thanksgiving Christmas Day when it's not being taken

(41:01):
over by the NFL. Is be fabric of the NBA
in a lot of places with their uh Quinn tuppleheader
that they have, with the five games going on New
Year's Day associated with college football, even though that has
changed throughout the years. There are a lot of holidays
and a lot of sports that you can connect, and
you would think that baseball in the fourth of July

(41:24):
would be that connection, But yet there seems to be
a bit of a disconnect when we're talking about America's
pastime and America's birthday. Do you feel that disconnect between
Major League Baseball and the fourth of July? Yeah? Yeah.
We should give credit to our producer here, Ryan Burschinger.
He brought this up. I thought it was an incredible
point by him because for all the reasons that you

(41:45):
just said, Dan, is that all of those sports are
synonymous with a day um and why would it major
League Baseball be synonymous with with fourth Giant? Beyond that, like,
why doesn't major League Baseball make it a bigger day
a to celebrate you know, like like you know, and
I know that baseball is a is a series based

(42:06):
sport as opposed to the NFL or NBA, which is
one game. But think about I mean, we do real
sex like we do segments on this show about when
we find out what the Christmas Day games are for
the NBA. We do segments on this show obviously about
anything NFL schedule related. So I don't know not only
why they're not more synonymous, because keep in mind, there's
really no other sports going on right now, but then two,

(42:30):
I think part of it is again, and what do
we criticize Major League Baseball for the most is they
just don't market the sport. They're just not creative. And
so I don't know what you could do if you
could do one off games, depending on what day of
the week it was or how it would all possibly work.
But it feels like the sport itself could do a
better job of marketing and promoting itself and turning this

(42:52):
into a thing in a way that it just isn't
right now, Like how many so we've got for TV
partners wise? You have Fox, you have ESPN, and you
have TBS like like those, so you have three major
networks that carry Major League Baseball. You you have the
the the platform to do it, and that's where that's

(43:12):
where it needs to happen. Like Fox, ESPN, and TBS
have to say, let's put together this, you know, quintuppleheader
of games. Granted your sometimes let the mercy of mother nature. Um,
but that really shouldn't be a problem to not do it,
but that that would be the thing that would end

(43:33):
up drawing in making something unique about it. Like that's
that's who I think needs to step up because we
see it in the NFL where CBS and Fox and
now NBC each get their own certain game. If you
are pumbing it and I don't think that I don't
think that there are enough conflicts or reasons why you

(43:54):
shouldn't be able to air games. You mean, a lot
of the programming on weeknights, um can be repeats or
stuff that's pushed off to the side. That that is
that would be the first step that I think that
you would have to get all the TV you know,
networks aligned to make a big deal out of it,
Like if you had if you had a five game
schedule that said all rights starting at noon Eastern and

(44:18):
going all the way, you know, until you know, ten
o'clock Eastern time at night, we're gonna have games on
all of these networks. I think that's the way that
you could start well. And it's not as though, and
I think there's this belief like the TV networks don't
work together. I mean, we all watched the NBA Playoffs
a few weeks ago, and ESPN is promoting the games
that are on Turner and vice versus. So it could
be done. But then the other thing is I think

(44:40):
part of it too is that you have to you know,
create interest in it, you know, in the off season,
right so, um, you know, the NFL does their schedule
release whatever it is April May. I can't remember off
the top of my head, but I know it's sometime
kind of you know, either in the weeks leading up
to the NBA Playoffs or before the NBA Playoffs has
really gotten go ing where there is a ton of

(45:01):
interest in it, um, you know, And so I don't
know what that would be, but could you do an
hour long show or forty five whatever? You know? Who
knows about the July you know, the July four schedule release, Say,
I don't know when the regular email B schedule comes out.
But again, can you do it around Christmas time when

(45:22):
there's not as much sports going on? Can you do it? Um?
I don't know. Go ahead. Here's the funny thing about
the schedule and burst all of you bringing on this,
Like the Major League Baseball schedule is usually like set
with a month ago in the previous season, like all
of a sudden September, they major League Baseball schedule here
it is. Yeah, yeah, I know. I don't know if

(45:44):
it's because of of the amount of dates that they
needed that you, like, you have to schedule eighty one
dates at that facility, so you put it that far
ahead of time. But to the point of even if
you had a schedule, you could be like, Okay, what
are the five game is going to be in that?
Like you know, in the in that time, like you
could you would at least have fifteen games to choose from,

(46:08):
and then you could highlight the five or make some
sort of special program in December to be like, these
are gonna be the fourth of July spectacular games. Well,
and I don't gonna cut burshop. If you want to
jump in, I was gonna say, I just saw today
or maybe I think I think actually Disager mentioned this
in an update last night when I was working is
apparently they've moved the MLB draft back to now coincide

(46:29):
with All Star weekend to or All Star you know
week or weekend whatever you call it, uh, to kind
of make it more of an event. So if if,
if it can't be you know, four months before the
start of the season, two months before spring training around
Christmas time, why couldn't it be at All Star break? Hey,
you know you're gonna watch Mike Trout versus Bryce Harper
tomorrow and I know that's like the most cliche matchup

(46:50):
that you could have. Well, guess what July one, Nation's Capital,
Trout in the Angels travel to to Bryce Harper to
see Bryce Harper and the Washington Nationals. I'm not saying
it would have the excitement of Christmas Day, um, you know,
Christmas Day Lebron versus k D. But I even if
the argument is the schedule comes out almost a full
year in advance, there's there's a way to do it

(47:12):
to make it more interesting and exciting than it is
right now. I'm gonna bring up a point, but I
want to bring Burshon. You're the baseball guy, by the way,
co host of the Swingshift podcast as well. Is there
a new episode out that people should listen to? There is, Yeah,
we just put out a couple of days ago talking
about about Freddie Freeman and we'll be down there. But
you're the baseball guy. Why is there a disconnect for you? Um,

(47:33):
it's hard because obviously when we look at Thanksgiving in
the NFL, it's a it's a set day every year
and it's you're able to cater the schedule to that
exact day. Same thing with the NBA and Christmas and
obviously the Bowl games, with with New Year's. With baseball,
we've always kind of been, uh, at the whim of

(47:54):
of whatever the schedule dictates, where teams don't have a
lot of freedom in their schedule for a third to
the season, they're playing the same opponents just within their
division and what have you. And of course July four
could end up on any day of the week. Um.
One thought I had is is next year is the
time where they can actually start to heavily address this
more because what happened was after the lockout that one

(48:15):
of the many things that that was announced in the
agreement that they came to was that starting next season,
every team is going to play every team throughout the year,
which has never been a thing before because of the
way that the leagues were imbalanced, because of the d
H rule and the way inter league worked. Now you
have the opportunity starting next year to put any matchup

(48:36):
you want on July four. So if you want the
Dodgers and Yankees on July four, you can do that.
If you want Yankees Red Sox on July four, you
can do that. You you can put any matchup you
want possible, and now you can, in fact stack the
schedule in a way to really lean into the Fourth
of July is something that's celebrated by baseball. I don't
know why it's never felt that way. Obviously, they they

(48:57):
have set up the schedules and and I'm sure tomorrow
there are plenty of games during the day, and of
course the Fourth of July doesn't cater to as much
indoor viewing as Thanksgiving and Christmas does. But at the
same time, it's it's never felt like that same sort
of tradition that that the NFL and the NBA has,

(49:18):
and I think now they're in a perfect opportunity where
they can really create that. I do believe that it
has gotten better. But there was a point, and I
hope I'm remembering this correctly, but there was a point
where that Major League Baseball I had I don't know,
like three day games going on on the fourth of July.
One of the hang ups, guys. True story was that

(49:39):
a lot of these ballparks have fireworks on the Fourth
of July night, so you would you would want to
have a night game so then the fans would be
around afterwards to have, you know, to take in the fireworks.
You can't do that when you're playing a you know,
a new and eastern time start. It's a different scenario.
Now when you look at tomorrow schedule, it actually starts
at eleven oh five Eastern time in the morning with

(50:02):
the Marlins and the Gnats, the stupid Nats playing, and
then it goes all the way to the Rockies and
Dodgers playing a night game in l A. But that
actually was was one of the things where you you
may not have had the the marquee sort of schedule
because guess what it was gonna be fireworks night, because
it was the fourth of July at you know, at
these ballparks. But it's changed, as we see with with
the schedule tomorrow. What's the old saying about excuses? They're like,

(50:26):
you know what, everyone's got one and they stink get
it done, Major League Baseball. That that's all I'm saying.
That's all I say. Trying and by the way, come
up with cooler hats. You know some of these signs
that they're having at you know these these I mean,
now there's a uniform for for everything, and but they're
they're unique ways in different ways to do it. Plus

(50:46):
if you just had the throwback days are always popular,
but you know the Father's Day cap said they had.
I wasn't a huge fan of those. When every single
cap is like black with the blue, mix it up
with some of the colors. William Major League Baseball, he's
errant or thanks to Ryan Burr singer like those special hats. Well,
I was gonna say, it just speaks to the point
of your making it a bigger thing. So whether it

(51:07):
is you know, uh, an all day thing where you
pre announced the schedule, whether it is um you know,
the broadcast crew live from the I don't know whether
it is special uniforms, whether it is whatever. Do something
to make it stand out because it is interesting. Right.
Every sport, it seems, has a holiday, uh, and the
ones you already mentioned NBA and and Christmas, NFL and Thanksgiving,

(51:31):
obviously college football in New Year's and there's no reason
that we shouldn't celebrate baseball the same way. So he's
Aaron Torres, I'm Dan Buyer. Thanks to Ryan Burr, Shinger.
This is Fox Sports Sunday. Coming up next, we dive
into not only conference realignment, but is there a team
that Kevin Durant should add to his wish list. We'll
talk about it next year on Fox Sports Radio, Fox

(51:53):
Sports Sunday. He's Heeron Torres. I'm Dan Buyer. Aaron will
be the hot seat at the bottom of the hour
in our weekly game of Easy has one to three four.
You'll have his three lifelines, Ryan Burr, singer Bubbo, and
Mont Blangios, who's at the news desk, will check in
with her in a little bit. But right now we
check in with our good friend. You can hear him
here on Fox Sports Radio. It's spent ten years in
the NBA doing big things, the big three. Ryan Hollins

(52:18):
joins us here on Fox Sports Radio. Right, happy fourth weekend?
How you doing man? He was going on, guys, let's
let's start with the actual, real, real big news not
for the NBA, but your alma mater of U. C
l a. Uh now going to be a member of
the Big Ten Conference as an alum. When that news
dropped this week, what was your reaction to that, Ryan, Well,

(52:40):
I'm mistatic because what's gonna happen is he's going to
give U. C l A. And you see a chance
to compete for national championships. You know what you do
in conference well not way as bad. You think about
SEC football, They go and beat up on each other
and then the champions kind of crowned out of that conference.
So from a recruit standpoint, it's huge being able to

(53:02):
play against the nation's best. And then you know, from
a like I said, a competitive standpoint, you know each
winner loss is not gonna determine your season. You know
you can go out and compete in those those wins
are gonna be power winds who you're gonna help. Come
March Madness time with football, come, you know, bold time.
So I'm talking about a huge, huge move, and you know,

(53:24):
hats off to Martin Jaman the a d over at
U f l A forgetting it done. So Ryan switch
gears to the NBA. Um. You know, I guess obvious question.
But you know, obviously we we followed the Kyrie element
of things in Brooklyn for a while where you at
all surprised by the other news on Thursday outside of
U c l A and USC that Kevin Durant did
in fact the man A trade. I didn't. I wouldn't

(53:46):
think that Kevin Durant would want to be left hanging
uh with the nets. And you know, obviously with no Kyrie,
he's gonna want to get in a situation where he
can compete for a championship. I think it's an eagle
list move. You know, yeah, he stay there and and
be a good player, but you know, at this point
in Katie's career, he's shown I want to compete for
a championship. You know, ultimately, if he has a champ

(54:08):
he's gonna try to get his own championship. But you
know he'll probably have to go join somewhere and go
try to win. You know, he's not in it to
to just be a part of a good team, which
he could probably have with Ben Simmons. He wants the championship.
Ryan Hollands joining us here on Fox Sports Sun of
the tenure NBA vet, he's heeron Torres, I'm Dan buyer.
How much does Kevin Durant deserve blame for Brooklyn not

(54:32):
getting it done in his short tenure there. He's gonna
have to take a big part of the blame. The
reason I say so if he wins the championship, will
say that it was his project, you know it was
it was It was all Kevin Durant the same way
you know, you the questions would even though he was
final MVP, that was Steph Curry, you know, was the
leader of that team. He was going to get the reward.

(54:53):
So he's gonna have to take a level of bame. Obviously,
Kyrie and made his own decisions obviously as far as
being see come play all time, you can really control that.
But I think you're gonna have to put a lot
of that blame on Kevin Durant and say things didn't
work out. So I don't know how much you blame them,
but you know, I think there's a level there where
you do have to so ron I you know, I

(55:14):
know that when a guy, if Kevin Durant stature makes
a decision like this, everybody in the locker room says, hey,
you know, it's his life and we gotta do what's
best for him. And Katie even said it when it
came to Kyrie and the contracts talks and stuff. What
is that the real reaction though, from guys in the
locker room. I mean, obviously so many of those guys
came to Brooklyn specifically to play with Kevin Durant, not
just Kyrie Irving, but but a lot of the role players,

(55:36):
a lot of the veterans, all that stuff. Is there
any element of come on, man, let's fight through this together.
Let or is it just Katie's got to do what's
best for Katie and I'll land wherever I land. No, Honestly,
when you when you're a role player in a locker only,
you know things, don't you know, carr of fall out
of line like that. You know it's so far above

(55:56):
your pay grade. Man, you just kind of chilling. And
also watch the show and you know you look at
it in a sense that, hey man, this could be
a chance for me to get uh, either get more
minutes or if I'm an older guy, they may be
going in the rebuilding types of direction. So you're seeing
the organization stepping towards the rebuild, you may be going
to be looking for another team. So I think you

(56:17):
just got to kind of get on with the trend
and keep in mind. You know, I went to Cleveland
post Lebron and I and obviously that the rebuild was on,
but it was a completely different vibe in just one
year with one man out, so and that was a huge,
huge difference. So, you know, I think if you're Ben Simmons,
you're looking around and saying, what's going on here? You know,
But being young enough to where if they really rebuilding

(56:38):
around him, he can probably you know, reinvigorate his career
and just get on the court and and be the
best player that he can be. Man, And Ben Simmons
when he plays, he's a dog man. So I think
that there's still the futurist right there with Ben Simmons.
You've got something that you can build upon. But yeah,
it's gonna be a whole different type of expectation with
no Kevin Durant in the house. Ryan Hollands joining us

(56:59):
here on Fox Words Sunday. He's four years old. How
many good years do you think great years do we
have of Kevin Durant left? Man, I think we have
a couple. And I said in the sense that he
can kind of value his minutes. Uh, he still can
play at a high level. Uh, you know you've already
seen him pretty much load manage. But the reason he's

(57:20):
going to be able to play at a really really
high level, he's seven feet talk. When we stand next
to each other, we're like we're out of Literally, he's
a legit seven feet tall. He's got like a seven
six wingspan of a high release, which means even if
he kind of loses a little bit on the defensive
end of the floor, he's still gonna be able to
score a very very high clip. You know, I played
with Dirk Naviski, and the Dirk played until man, he

(57:43):
didn't have any needs left. And shoot, when I played
with Dirk, he probably didn't have any needs left. So
I think that with Kevin Durant, you're still gonna see
Katie playing at a really really high level. And thirty
four is still extremely young in basketball years. What do
you make of the report last night. Ryan, I know
you might have been traveling and you're playing Big Three,
but the report that we are in the beginning stages

(58:05):
of a potential Kyrie for Russell Westbrook trade again, Chris
Hayes from Yahoo, it's in its early stages. Brooklyn said,
it's been an exploratory call. But what do you make
of that report? I think you saw this coming. The
thing is great for the league, and I think there's
like a notion for some weird reason that when Kyrie
opted in that that ended the trade talks and all
that only you know, in a sense, helped them out.

(58:26):
He's an expiring contracts, you have a year left, You've
got a desperate Lakers squad, and ultimately, you know, the
Lakers have been trying to move on for Russell Westbrook.
So in a weird way, you know, I was talking
with Colin and you may see a reuniting of of
Westbrook and Durant That was a thought and and kind
of you know, Lebron and Kyrie. So ultimately, I don't

(58:48):
think you see that from Durant in because it looks
like he's trying to get out and even if they
take on Westbrook. I don't know what that future is
gonna look like, but I think you gotta be kind
of see the writing on the water. Had excuse me
that Kyrie is, by any means necessary, trying to get
to l A. And I think when you have a
a a personality like Kyrie, he can almost dictate his

(59:12):
own future because he won't report you sent him to
the wrong team. He report, and you don't want to
waste assets on something like that. Maybe unless make the
Oklahoma City Thunder can kind of do a buyout situation
and move some draft picks who who knows, or clear
some clear some caps. So I'm kind of intrigued to
see what happens there. But he looked gung ho um

(59:34):
going to l A. So I don't think there's much
that you can do to stand in the way. Ryan
Hollands joining us here on Fox Sports Sunday, he's here
on Torres. I'm Dan buyer glad to have you with
us on the heels of that. Does Lebron have that
much power that Tyree would report or do you think
Kyrie would have would have? Still, I don't want to
say pulled this stuff. And I'm just gonna use that phrase.

(59:56):
Do you think the same scenario would have played out
in l a if if everything was equal with what
happened in Brooklyn, or with Lebron have more of a
say over Kyrie and what he did. I think one
of the biggest things is that those two really like
each other. Now, obviously there's some frustration, probably over the
credit that Kyrie got for the championship, um the things

(01:00:17):
that he did, he felt underappreciated, and I think he's
looking back and going, man, I get it. It was
a lot harder than I originally thought. It seems like
he had reached out to Lebron a few times and
at this point going man, let's let's join back up.
You need me and I kind of need you, and
and we made we had some special times together. So
I think it could be the feel good story of

(01:00:38):
the league going in and see these two back together
having grown up in in in different places, you know,
and we would look over at Golden State, you know
those guys are a little older. Uh, Clay Thompson, this
is two years of basketball and he win the championship.
So I think Lebron is having the same type of
vibes and feelings that I'm sure those guys that talked already,
and you know, Lebron and quite adamant. Once he's connected

(01:00:59):
with the guy and they've talked, man, he gets all
all in, all in for him, and I think that's
what we're seeing with you know, Kyrie and Lebron right now. Bryan,
Dan and I were on the other day when the
Rudy Gobert news broke um. You know, that's an interesting
story in its own right. I think we all kind
of think that the next move is, obviously Donovan Mitchell
de trade Rudy Gobert and keep Donovan Mitchell. Doesn't seeven

(01:01:21):
make sense. One do you think Donovan Mitchell's on the move?
And too, do you have any sense of of where
would be the best fit or the most likely fit. Man,
I haven't even seen anything out there floored. Obviously, you
want to see Donovan go to a contender. I think
he's young enough where you can build around him, and
he's intriguing and intriguing piece because you have to put

(01:01:42):
the basketball in his hand. You know, you can't just
let him sit there. And you know, I'm gonna tell
you one thing, man, Rudy Gobert, he can take a
scrutiny for not being able to score in the playoffs
or you know, being in effective at moments. But man,
you talks gonna be like, man, we've missed that defense.
It's tain't this ain't the same because he lively held
it down defensively there for for about what what almost

(01:02:04):
a decade or so. Uh, and it's gonna be some
different basketball there yet left. So I'm intrigued. I honestly,
logically we say Donovan needs to get out of there,
but realistically I'm looking at it and saying, I can't
see him on another team. I can't. I don't know
where Donovan would go. And obviously, you you know, you

(01:02:26):
see the King's Ransom that they kind of got for
Rudy Gobert, you'd have to get even more so for
Donovan Mitchell. And what are you looking for to get
back or you're just trying to get younger. Uh, you're
trying to blow this thing all the way up. You're
getting you know, cat relieved. Maybe you get off the
many player a couple other players in the in the process.
So I do say, moving on, it's just not realistic

(01:02:46):
to me. And I gotta wonder what The suitors are
Ryan Hollins Journey us here on Fox Sports Sturday, last
one before you go. Do you like Gobert in Minnesota
or is there Kim and Kat gonna be able to
deal with small lineups. How do you think that works
out for the timp Wolves. I do Karl Anthony Towns
was in the natural five, so now he has the
freedom of playing the four. Uh. You got the best

(01:03:09):
defender in the league and at least in the regular
season in Rudy Gobert. And I've never seen or thought
of Minnesota as having a defensive presence. And I'm telling you, man,
the way they get after you on the perimeter, the
way they're able to switch, and they play a physical,
aggressive type style. I am really intrigued to see what

(01:03:30):
happens over there in Minnesota and how they end up
how they end up looking. I think I'm excited that
maybe a move that a lot of people aren't really
talking much about. But you know, with Anthony Edwards and
Karla Details and D'Angelo Russell Man, Gobert might be a
nice because they don't need him to score a point
over there. It's very very intriguing. Now if Minnesota can

(01:03:53):
move up into the top half of the West. Uh, yeah,
that will be something. Ryan. We appreciate the time. Ever,
say fourth man, can't we talk to you again? Appreciate it?
Hey man, you fellows of sounding great on the radio. Man,
keep up the good work, right Ryan Hollins Tenure NBA
VET Fox Sports radio host. Get him on Twitter at
the Ryan Hollins, He's Eron Torres. I'm Dan Buyer. Eron's

(01:04:14):
in the hot seat that the SEC. But first we
go over to the news desk. Monty Belongo says the latest,
what's going on? Well, I agree with what Ryan said
that the Timberwolves don't have to worry about Rudy Gobert shooting.
He doesn't like to shoot. He just let's play devise.
So it works. It absolutely works. Those guys are always
nice when you're just like, oh, you're not gonna take
shots with awesome exactly. They're gonna be so stoked about it.

(01:04:36):
And he seems to be okay with that, So I
think it's actually gonna work out. And I'm scared of
the Timberwolves. Let's just say that as a Clippers fan,
I'm scared of the Timberwolves. And I don't even know
what they're gonna do yet, Aaron. Just so you know, Today,
Adrian Wojanowski on Sports Center said that the Utah Jazz
are shutting down any team who's calling trying to make

(01:04:56):
a trade for Donovan Mitchell. The Jazz are committed to
moving forward with him as their cornerstone player. Adrian Wodronowski
also tweeted the morning I know, I know it was
a definitive Jabari was. I hear what you're saying. I know,
I'm just telling you, but you're right, You're right, you
make a you know, listen, you know I have my
thoughts on him, and he's got to protect his sources.

(01:05:17):
But let me just say that I believe a lot.
But there's some things he's done lately that sure got
Aaron scratching his head a little put out, A fake
Jabari Smith report just to help out his buddies in Orlando.
That was pretty obvious. So I have zero doubt that
he's probably doing the same to help Hot take. Well,

(01:05:38):
see what do I get if Donovan Mitchell gets traded
in the next week. I gotta get something A pizza,
I mean, I'll take that, all right. Bout your pizza
and then I buy myself some. It's a win win.
He gets a tweet of us eating the pizza telling
him he's wrong. What if every twee cents? Right? Yeah,

(01:05:59):
he's get like an eight million dollar year salary. That's
what he gets. Well listen speaking about Kevin Durant. Kevin
Durant just sometimes I just stay off social media, buddy,
I don't know what to tell you. So yesterday, Nuts
Daily an account just tweeted something about the Nuts like
nets one four games last year and we're swept. Kevin
Durant played ninety games and three years, Kyrie ever being
played a hundred in three games and three years. And
then somebody said, yet they paid him forty million and

(01:06:21):
rehabbed him to full strength. This is how he's gonna
act now. And Kevin Durant responded today to that and
just wrote L O L that's it. So you think
it's money, But he doesn't care about what anybody else says.
Yet he literally searches his own name and response to everything.
But you would think he would stop. It's like, dude,
just take a take a chill, bill, have a drink

(01:06:41):
and relax, turn off your Twitter. So out of touch
with just just don't demand a trade. How about that?
How about you suck it up and deal with it.
You created this mess. You don't get to just walk
out if you if you, I don't know, I don't
have kids. I was gonna make some kid analogy. If
you wreck your room, you don't just get to leave.
I think Dan made a bunch of analogies very similar
an Hour one. But you don't just get to to

(01:07:03):
ruin everything and then walk out and oh sorry, guys,
I need to go somewhere else. I'm with you one,
I'm with you. I kind of lost respect for Katie
when he left the Thunder and went to join the
team that beat him, the best team, and now he's
doing this. I'm like, bro, wherever you go next, that's it.
You can't go anywhere else. You cannot because it's gonna
ruin whatever legacy you have. Right now, you can't. This

(01:07:24):
is the last on right right in Major League Baseball,
we actually have had some exciting games. The Reds they
walked it off to beat the Braves, the Astros walked
it off to beat the Angels, And right now we're
about to enter the bottom of the eleventh inning between
the Red Sox and the Cubs. We were tied in
the eleventh, that too apiece, but the Red Sox have
scored two, so now they are afforded to about to

(01:07:47):
enter the bottom of the eleventh. We'll see if the
Cubs can can figure this out. At Wrigley Field, the
White Sox are beating the Giants right now six to one,
with the Mariners edging out the Athletics two to one.
Top of the ninth inning. The Dodgers still have that
very slight edge on the Padres one zero in the
final game of their four game series, and earlier today
we had victories also from the Royals, the Brewers, the Rays,

(01:08:09):
the Guardians, the Mets, and the Orioles and the Rockies.
Back to you guys, thank you very much. Monter. Don't
go anywhere because it's gonna be a lifeline too. Want
Aaron Torres this Fox Sports Sunday. Yeah, bobbo is gonna
be a lifeline as well as well. Ryan Bursinger are
executive producer. Let's play easy as one to three four Aeron,
you've played this game before? Yes, yes, the goal is

(01:08:33):
to get a perfect score of ten. I give Aaron
four questions. Doesn't have to give me all of the
right answers, just some of them. And yes, ten is
the goal. Today's over under seven and a half. So
if you want to yeah, that's that's fine. Confidence and
you've got your lifelines with you. We start out with
question number one. Aaron name one of two major League

(01:08:54):
baseball players who were earlier this week named as automatic
starters for the All Star Game in Los Angeles in
a couple of weeks named one of the two major
league players. I hope these aren't all baseball questions. I
am actually going to use a lifeline right away and
go to um wow, I actually did not see this story.

(01:09:16):
Um too. So I'm guessing that it would be then
it would be the top two vote getters, So it's
probably Aaron Judge, it is probably one. I gotta go
with my lifeline here. I thought, Mr Baseball, he's solving
all Baseball's problems. He can't even answer, you know, twenty
minutes ago, he's fixing everything. Now he can't answer it.
I'll say, Aaron Judge, all right, show me Aaron Judge. Yes, yes,

(01:09:39):
that is correct, Yes, yes, Ronald K Jr. Was the
other one. They were the leading vote getters in the
each of their leagues, so they are automatic starters. The
other starters still to be determined by a second round
of voting. It's a good thing that the All Star
Game balloting isn't confusing at all anymore. I say that jokingly.

(01:10:00):
All Right, one for one, Let's go to question number two. Aaron,
these are all topics of stuff that's going on usually
in the world of sports within the past week. Named
two of three NBA All Stars from this past season
that are no longer on the teams that they were
on when they were named All Stars on February three. Yes,

(01:10:21):
so all stars that played in the All Star Game
last February. Yes, two of the three that are no
longer on the teams they were on when they were
named All Stars. Alright, so I do know one, and
it's only because I heard this the other day. Is
Dejon Murray one? Okay? I don't. Well, well, well, well,

(01:10:41):
we need both of your answers, So so you could
you could put Jon Day Murray as one, and then
I would then I would need another. I'm gonna say
without a lifeline, Rudy Gobert, Okay, those are your final answers.
You know I was gonna say, I hate to use
a lifeline again, but Monter, you have an ideas on this,
your miss NBA here, I would go with what you

(01:11:02):
just said, like off the top of my head. Yes,
that's what Murray and Rudy Gobert I'm saying. Jon Murray,
Rudy Gobert. All right, Okay, show me Rudy Gobert absolutely
a member of the Utah Jazz. Now remember the Timberwolves.
Show me the Jon Murray there he is, Yes, remember
the Spurs. Now a member of the Hawks. Does James Ellen?

(01:11:25):
Last week? It was? But it's tricky because when Harden
was named at All Star he was actually a member
of the Brooklyn Nets. Then he was dealt to Philadelphia
and so during the All Star Game he was actually
a member of the Sixers. But yes, trick question. It
wasn't a trick question because I gave you every specific detail.
That was my other guest. I just know that James

(01:11:47):
Harden is fat and out of shape, and I didn't
know if he was an All Start. Yeah. True, that's
why we threw that caveat in there. All right, he
is three for three. Aaron Torres is in easy as
one to three four, got one life? Fine? Bobo sitting
there ready, He's right, I can see and we will
get that lifeline. That question and so much more coming

(01:12:08):
up next. He's Eron Torres. I'm Dan buyer. Easiest one
to three four continues next year on Fox Sports Sunday.
Fox Sports Sunday, I'm Dan Buyer. He's Aaron Torres. Glad
you're with us, Hope you're staying safe on this holiday weekend,
uh day before the fourth of July and a celebrations
going on right now. We are celebrating here in Fox
Sports Radio because Aaron Torres right now, perfect through the

(01:12:30):
first two questions. If easy as one to three four,
he's got Bobo asked one of his lifelines still remaining, Aaron,
are you ready for question number three about Bobo? It
doesn't seem as invested in this as I am so,
but anyways, he can he can maybe surprise you. Maybe
you don't need a lifeline, Maybe you don't need to
rely on him for question number three. Right now, what

(01:12:54):
I want you to do, Aaron, is give me three
of the four A C C schools that most re
ciently joined that conference. Oh so, yeah, the most recent
additions to the A C C. Give me before Louisville,
I think is a pretty safe bet. Um, and I

(01:13:15):
think I know the other two, but I'm just going
through very quickly to make sure. I'm just gonna say
pitt in Syracuse. Those your final final answers. I sure hope,
I don't get this one wrong. My credibilities at steak here,
So all right, show me Louisville. Yeah, there they are,
Show me Syracuse, and to continue with the perfect game

(01:13:40):
going for six for six, show me Pittsburgh. There they are.
Did you know the other one? You're not gonna get
any points for it, but did you know the other
one does notre Dame County, not for this aspect of it.
Who is members Boston College? Well they join when UM
Virginia Tech in Miami did two thousand five BC joined.

(01:14:02):
It was a few years before that Virginia Tech and
Miami joined. So yeah, so BC was the other one.
But you got doesn't matter. You got those three points.
So you are now six for six leading up to
the final question. And boy, Bobar, are you ready to
be the lifeline if if Aaron needs is not a college?
When I'm good well, how are you with Wimbledon? Because

(01:14:25):
I want you to four of the five countries with
the most gentleman singles titles at Wimbledon since nineteen four
of the five, yes, four of the five countries with
the most gentleman singles titles at Wimbledon. Alright, well, I'm

(01:14:48):
gonna go Switzerland because Roger Federer. I'm gonna go. I'm
gonna go United States. I'm gonna give you four. I'm
gonna go. Hold on one second, let me think about this.
Definitely United States. Definitely Switzerland. You have not relied on
bobo just yet. I don't know. Do we have Aaron squared?

(01:15:10):
You know? Can these uh? Can these two guys you
know make it? Can we do this together? Let's see? Okay?
So US Switzerland, um sir uh? Three out of four?
Four out of five? You need four answers. By the way,

(01:15:31):
do bur singer montery? Do you have any guesses? Not
that you could be used as lifelines, but would you
be of any help at least one? All right? Man,
all right, so I'm gonna you know you could you
know what we could open it up? Yeah? You can.
You can use monter or bursts if you want, well,

(01:15:51):
just eliminated me, just like, just like I thought, you're
out with your mom, bobo. Yeah, what's the deal? So
she hung up. She want she didn't want anything to
do with Wimbledon either. She's like, I'm out. So, by
the way, the over under was seven and a half.
So if I get these two, I get eight even
without the lifeline. Just want that to be established. All right,
I'm gonna say so four out of five? All right, Um,

(01:16:15):
oh my goodness, Um, all right, this is such a
cop out. I'm gonna say no lifelines actually burst. You
seem somewhat confidence. I'm gonna say US, Switzerland do you
seemed confident? I was starting to think of the home
country of UK, But I it's hard for me to
come up with a specific other than like the one

(01:16:36):
time Andy Murray won it, and that was historic because
it hadn't been done. Alright, So since Monsey, do you
have any strong opinions? You don't know what about? Well,
that's what I was gonna say. So I'm gonna go
with those four. I'm gonna go with US Switzerland, Spain
for Nadal, and Serbia for Novak Djokovic. Okay, all right,
here we go for a perfect game, because if I

(01:17:00):
get a perfect game on what I get two pizzas.
If I get a perfect game on the good Lord?
Show me the United States? Yes, fifteen champions, most of
any country. Fifteen titles. Pete Sampras, what a bunch for
the US. Show Me Switzerland, asked Roger Federer and his

(01:17:21):
eight Wimbledon titles, accounting for all of Switzerland's show Me Serbia. Yes,
six titles for Serbia. Novak Djokovic bringing those home and
finally for a perfect game already hit the over did

(01:17:42):
Is it Spain? No question? Is it Germany? No? It
was No, that was a good guess. Actually, yeah, what
a couple Michael stick Way, let me think here, trying
to think Britain. No it was not. It was not

(01:18:03):
the UK. It was Sweden. Borg, yes, with his five titles.
Stefan Edinburgh won a couple as well, and the other
one Australia. It was a little difficult. I was going
to say who won from Australia. Well, Rod Labor won
the first. That's like, yes, didn't have to slap matches

(01:18:28):
because dinosaurs were eating the grass. Come on, Layton Hewitt
was the last one to win. In two thousand to
the last Australia but six awesome titles. Yeah, maybe if
I had actually listened to that part, that might have
been a hint there. Because the Dollar guess was good.
He's only won it twice though, Yeah, and and bur

(01:18:50):
Singer was was correct with the Andy Murray he did
win it twice as well, but that's because he was
the only time that he had won that they had
won in the Open era. So hey, night out of ten.
Still a job well done, Bobo, give your mom our
best as well, and thank you to burn. That's Germany
from Bobo, thank you for I hope your mom is

(01:19:10):
doing good. Happy Germany was was a strong guess if
it was, I mean beer Becker won it three times,
so that you know, like Chopper, I literally asked um,
I said, I think it's Germany, and he said, well,
if he goes to you. I was like okay, but
then he went around the whole room. I was sitting
there like, well, Aaron, don't trust me double as, don't

(01:19:31):
trust a double r everything, but tennis for a NASCAR
you were my first. Oh it's so good. Good Aaron

can find me Dan Buyer on Twitter at dan Buyer
on Fox. This on the heels of the news that
USC and U c l A are leaving the Pack
twelve for the Big Ten to begin play in four

(01:20:38):
That would be in five academic year. We know that
Oklahoma and Texas are gonna make their way to the
SEC to form that conference to a sixteen team, sixteen
member league. So now you have the two Titans, Aaron,
You've got the Big Ten. You've got the SEC. You
do a lot uh in the world of college sports,

(01:21:02):
specifically in college basketball. You wrote a book about the
Kentucky Wildcats. You have a great sports brand that connects
fans not only of Kentucky but of Arkansas. For the
for for the next exercise, for the purpose of this
next exercise, you are going to be Mr SEC. That

(01:21:23):
just means more, Baby, let's go. It just means more.
The chance of SEC are going on. I went to
a Big ten school, grew up in Big ten country.
I am going to be Mr Big Ten now for
the next however long it takes us, Aaron, we are
going to help reshape the world of college athletics. And

(01:21:43):
by helping it means we are going to pillage and
destroy the other conferences that aren't the SEC in the
big tent. Okay, that sounds fair to you. I mean
there's literally much better paid people than us doing this
exact same thing behind closed doors right now. So yeah, absolutely,
because this is this is now what it has come to.
This has come It's come to the point where I

(01:22:05):
think we all expect more moves to happen. It seems
like the Big ten counter the SEC moves, and I
think that there's going to be a counter move by
the SEC. And then now you've got the Pack twelve
in the Big Twelve trying to figure out where they
want to fit in all of this, and the a
SEC is trying to protect their entities. So a lot
is going on in the world of college sports. But
when you have to power brokers like the SEC in

(01:22:28):
the Big Ten, I just think, Aaron, that you just
have to expect more change when it comes to those
two leagues, adding maybe more firepower. I think that is
totally fair. So for the next I don't know however
long this takes us. We are going to go from
sixteen school conferences to twenty two school conferences in the

(01:22:50):
Big Ten. In the SEC is Aaron Torres and I
have the first annual College Conference realignment and rafts. Are
you ready to go? Aaron Torres, I am more excited
about this than I care to admit. Okay, now we
don't know who has the number one pick, but we
will find out. Our executive producer is Ryan Burr Singer. Ryan,

(01:23:13):
you have a number in your head? Correct? Okay, So
Ryan is thinking of a number, Aaron, you have to
guess odd or even, and Aaron and Aaron if you
get it correct. Yes, we hope that Ryan doesn't cheat,
that you would favor one of us over the other.
But you just have to guess odd or even, and

(01:23:34):
if you get it right, you get the first pick.
If you get it wrong, I get the first pick.
We're not gonna snake and reverse it. We're just gonna
go every other. Okay, for the sake of this exercise,
does that work? Absolutely? Odd from Ry? Okay, Burst? What
was the number? Numb? Oh, you have the first overall pick.
By the way, this also includes Independence, which I think

(01:23:55):
could be a big, big play in all of this.
All right, Torres, in this draft, you have the first
overall pick. To add another school to the sec give
us your reasoning, give us your first overall pick. Okay,
so um, there is one super obvious answer for this selection,

(01:24:19):
and I'm actually not gonna take it. So I think
the super obvious answer is Notre Dame. I'm gonna actually
go with Clemson, and I'll tell you why Notre Dame.
You know, I know geography really doesn't matter at this point,
but Notre Dame. Really, there's there's no geographical relevance to
anything SEC related. Um, it would just feel like an outlier.

(01:24:43):
So I'm gonna go with Clemson elite football program. Uh my,
my first game of the new college football with Clemson
in the SEC will be at Alabama Week one of
the season. I am going Clemson with my first overall pick.
So the A c C is the first one to
have their blood drawn in this exercise. You can, by

(01:25:06):
the way, tweet and tell Aaron you like his pick
and don't like his pick at Aaron Underscore Torres. You
can find me on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox.
That is very interesting because I actually thought to myself, well,
if Aaron gets the first overall pick and takes Notre Dame,
what school would I take? And I was going to
take the Clemson Tigers. But with that being said, I

(01:25:27):
feel that we could go on with this exercise, but
I don't want to push it. The Big Ten would
take Notre Dame then for their seventeenth members. So for
the uh second overall pick, I will take the Notre
Dame fighting irish. It just they seem to be the
big dog. As you said, I think it would be
huge for the Big Ten, and honestly, it would be

(01:25:48):
really huge for USC, It'd be really huge for Michigan.
It would be really huge for those schools that also
UM have had relationships. Michigan State another one as well.
So it's just such a natural fit. Notre Dame goes
second in the Big Ten, all right, by the word
really quick, as soon as the word Clemson it out

(01:26:08):
of my mouth, I do think it was the wrong answer.
We have about a hundred years track record of Notre
Dame being pretty good, too really good, too great in
college football. We basically have about ten years with Clemson,
where once Dabbo leaves, it's all up in the air.
But obviously I stick with Clemson with my second pick
in this draft. You know I'm gonna go with the

(01:26:34):
U University of Miami. So so it was down to
two schools. But I think looked. I think in the
N I L space, I think they're gonna kill it. Obviously,
five national championships since the early to mid nineteen eighties,
the football brand speaks for itself. Obviously, again, you can
create some very compelling in conference matchups with not only Florida,
but Alabama. L s you on and on and on.

(01:26:57):
So I'm going Miami with My second pick this is
this also tells you as well of of really, I
think why the other Pack twelve schools um are so
intriguing in all of this, because I don't think that
in Oregon or a Washington or a Stanford or a
cal would be any of the first picks of the

(01:27:18):
other conferences. They maybe for the Big twelve, who's trying
to add a little bit more relevance, But I just
don't see it with the Big ten in the SEC.
The Big Ten just took to the took the two
biggest dogs in the Pac twelve, and it doesn't make
a lot of sense for them to just try to
fill it out for convenience sake. I think they got
to look at other areas. So I'm actually jumping into

(01:27:40):
the conference where right now, because we've had two and
a half entries from if you want to call Notre
Dame a half member, we're gonna make it three and
a half. I'm taking the North Carolina targets I had.
I had thought about maybe going to the state of Florida,
to your point about Miami, maybe another school there would
be interested. But I think the basketball aspect of North Carolina.

(01:28:01):
What this also really does Aaron this really helps Maryland.
So now you've got Maryland bringing back another rival of their's.
Not that this is all about Maryland, but you want
to talk about brands, you want to talk about programs.
I'm going North Carolina at for overall for the Big
ten in our conference draft. You're back on the clock. Yeah,

(01:28:23):
And I think this is going in a lot of
ways the way that it probably will in real life
at some point. Um, I'm gonna stick with the big
football brands. I'm gonna stick with a program that, while
they're down now, has recently won a national championship in
the last decade. And I know that because I was
at the game at the Rose Bowl. The Florida State Seminals.
The Florida State Seminoles are off the board here. And
obviously again there are a lot of great brands in

(01:28:45):
the North and of course the West. But I think
geographically this all sort of makes sense for the SEC.
Was that the school that you were thinking of when
you ended up taking Miami or were you thinking of
taking North Carolina maybe at that third overall spots, I
was going to take Florida State, But okay, oh wow,
and over North Carolina as well, So uh maybe maybe

(01:29:06):
maybe I could have left the tar heels for a
little bit later on. But in Florida State goes to
Aaron and the SEC. Okay, we're gonna make one more
pick before we go to break and split this up,
and that is my pick for the Big Ten and
looking at what's there in the in the A c C.
And I don't want to say what's left in the
A c C because it's kind of it has a

(01:29:27):
negative connotation to the programs that I think some of
them would be nice ads. But I do at some
point Aaron as a Big Ten member, and I think
this is one of the advantages that you have as
an SEC. I do owe it to take care of
USC at U c l A a little for that
West coast. So I'm gonna try to start to build
a wall not only from southern California, but move it

(01:29:50):
up the Pacific coast. I will take Oregon at number six.
I don't know how much of a target they were
of the SEC at number six, but I would add
then Oregon to the list Big ten schools with my
sixth overall pick. Fantastic. Well, I got some thought, I
got some thicket to do here during the break is
obviously I'm up next. So yeah, so this is what
we've done. So we had sixteen schools in the Big

(01:30:12):
in the Big Ten, with the addition of U S
in U C l A, there's gonna be sixteen schools
in the SEC with the addition of Texas in Oklahoma.
Aaron and I drafting the remaining schools that are still
out there for the Big Ten and SEC to poach.
Aaron with the first overall pick, took Clemson to join
the SEC. I jumped on Notre Dame. Aaron went back
to went to the state of Florida to get Miami Florida.

(01:30:34):
I then took North Carolina from the a SEC. Another
a SEC school went at number five with Florida State
and our first Pack twelve school, Florida State by the way,
going to the SEC and Erin's team UH League Conference.
However you want to put it, identic Oregon at number six.
A lot of good schools still out there. Aeron a
lot from the Big twelve, still some good schools from

(01:30:54):
the A c C. Maybe some other schools from the
new Big twelve as well could be picked out. Who
is selected. He's Eron Tores. Get him on Twitter at
aeron Underscore Tours. I'm Dan Buyer. Find me on Twitter
at Dan Buyer. On Fox we wrap up this draft
next year on Fox Sports Sunday. It's Fox Sports Sunday.
I'm Dan Buyer. He's Eron Torres. Were smack dab in
the middle of our conference realignment draft, drafting schools for

(01:31:17):
the SEC and the Big Ten. Sorry a CEC, Sorry,
Pack twelve, Sorry Big twelve, Sorry Independence, Sorry, American Athletic Conference,
Uh sorry, Conference us A sorry some Belt. It's the
way it is. It's the way of the world. The
two big giants of the world of college sports will
soon start to pick up part these other leagues and
then forced them to figure out how to live in

(01:31:39):
this world with these two big giant leagues. Aaron and
I are trying to figure out who would go where
if you actually had a college conference realignment draft. The
sixteen schools slated for the Big Ten already set same
thing for the SEC. To recap, Aaron to Clemson number one.
As he is picking for the SEC, I am picking
for the Big Ten. I follow with Notre Dame. We're

(01:32:01):
just alternating back and forth. Aaron then took Miami. I
took North Carolina for the Big ten. Then Aaron took
Florida State for the SEC, and I grabbed Oregon for
the Big ten. So there we are six bits in
six more to go halfway through. Aaron, your thoughts on
how this draft has played out so far? Uh, it's
been exhilarating, it's been exhausting. Um, And I'm not really

(01:32:21):
surprised anything so far? Is that I am? You know, obviously, look,
I think we could get crazy and I could take Oregon.
Obviously they're not on the board, but I could have
taken Oregon or Washington. But I'm trying to really think,
like a conference commissioner, what makes sense? Um? And then
from there also just uh you know, uh, like like
what would be great for the league, but what also

(01:32:42):
makes sense? And there are a lot of schools that
that's sound great on paper, but how would it actually
work kind of geographically? So I've had sounded fun so
far about yourself. Yeah, I'm enjoying. This is what I
think is unique about this is how we've drafted is
kind of in line with how these leagues have looked
upon things. Listen, the SEC getting into the state of Texas.

(01:33:02):
When they brought in Texas, A and M was a
big deal. Adding Texas and Oklahoma was a huge, huge deal.
But to the to the point of their addition erin
it wasn't like they didn't have the state of Texas already.
Where where's the Big ten has gone places where they
haven't been. You know, they wanted Rutgers for the New

(01:33:24):
York City market, they wanted Maryland for Washington, d C.
They now I've got l A where the SEC is like,
we're just gonna take Like they're they're not as enamored
with expanding their footprint is maybe as opposed to just
trying to get the best of the best in their league.
So that takes me perfectly perfectly as a matter of fact,

(01:33:45):
And to my number four pick, and I'm gonna go
a little bit off the radar here. So all of
my picks so far have been football related, but we
do play other sports here in the SEC. It just
means more we're trying to compete at the highest level,
and not just football but basket ball as well. So
with the fourth pick, I'm gonna go with the Kansas Jayhawks.

(01:34:06):
I'll tell you it sounds surprising. I know, I said,
geographically Notre Dame doesn't make sense, but remember they share
a border with Missouri. Missouri of course is UH is
a former rival of theirs that is now in the SEC.
So did I steal a team that you were going
to take? Absolutely did because I wanted I wanted a
conference where North Carolina and Kansas would be rivals, where

(01:34:28):
you could have that matchup be a conference matchup. I
was going to take Kansas with that next pick, but
they go off the board at number seven. Overall. I
also just there's there's there's also the thoughts, I don't
think this plays in. I don't think that the SEC
is going to be knocking on Washington Store. I don't

(01:34:49):
think that that's, you know, the case. So I would
look at so I was also looking at the Big twelve,
was looking at the a c C and what else
is there? And I thought, Wow, that would be really
really nice to be able to add that to the
basketball portion of of my conference. So you did steal one.

(01:35:10):
You absolutely did steal one for me. So that puts
me up at number eight, taking from either the a
c C Big twelve, Pack twelve again Conference USA Sun belt.
Every everything is up for grabs as we are drafting
schools to add to the Big Ten and to the
SEC or a bunch of good schools, bunch of schools

(01:35:34):
that I think would be nice ads. This wouldn't move
the needle, and in fact, the Big Ten said no
to them before. But I do want to make it
stronger basketball wise, and this is a thought of as
a basketball school. It's in the Big Ten footprint. I'm
gonna go Louisville at number eight. Louisville at number eight,

(01:35:57):
just also almost as a tic tac dough or tic
tac toe, not the game show which was dough, but
tic tac toe block of maybe adding Louisville to a
Kentucky Kansas sort of league. So I'm gonna take Louisville
at number eight. That was gonna be my next pick. Alright, alright, good,
it was worthwhile it was then it was then it
was worth it. I stole Kansas from you, you stole

(01:36:19):
Louiville from me, and by the way, Louisville like like
there there was talking about Louisville being added to the
Big Tent at one point, not by the Big Ten,
but by people who like trying to drop scenarios and
the makeen's like, yeah, it's not gonna happen. No. The
I would say, I'm not a guru on this, but
I don't think the academics totally would make sense of Yeah, correct, correct,
I got three schools that I really like here, um,

(01:36:42):
and we have four picks left. You have two. I
have two as we fill out the SEC in the
Big ten. Mm hmmmm. This is tough because there's I
there were a couple of schools in the A SEC
that I thought would be unique. Can good fits the
pack twelve? I don't know for you if it makes

(01:37:04):
sense to jump out to the pack twelve all of
a sudden, especially now. Yeah, yeah, you know what I'm
gonna go with. Uh, I may regret this. Mm hmm.
You know what I'm doing it. I'm doing the opposite.
I was gonna go with another football school instead, I
am going to break the hearts of basketball fans everywhere.

(01:37:24):
I'm gonna take Duke and I'm gonna break up the Duke.
Carolina are Vanderbilt friends some nerds to hang out with.
So you know, from the academic component, here's a good thing.
My football teams are happy because now they get Kansas
and Duke on the schedule and uh there's two automatic
wins there. So oh man, can you imagine that Duke
North Carolina not being in the semi league. Here's the thing, right,

(01:37:47):
we're at a point where h u C. L A
and Arizona and basketball are gonna be in the same league.
Nebraska and Oklahoma, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. I mean, you know,
is it that surprising that any one ivalry is being
broken up? And by the way, this is why some
of this realignment stuff sucks so bad. It's because you're
losing so many of the great games that we've loved
growing up. So you know, I'm Greg Sanky, and I

(01:38:09):
just said, you know what, I'm going to increase my
basketball brand. I have Kansas, Duke, and of course Kentucky
among many others. Right now, well, I have to complete
and I and I have to complete the Western Corridor,
which also I think adds some drama to your pick
because you said you had about three schools and picked
one of them. I know one of them isn't Washington,
but I'm gonna take Washington. I do think it would
add value. But I think the Big Ten is looking

(01:38:31):
to expand. They would look at a couple of other
schools first, but I do need to fill out that
West coast portion, so I've just added Oregon in this draft.
We've obviously added USC at U C l A this week.
So I'll take Washington at number ten. So now I've
got the Seattle market as well. I've got a good wall,
uh from l A all the way up to Seattle,
of of Big ten country. Maybe not in northern California yet,

(01:38:55):
but that's why i picked Washington at number ten. I'm
in a bit of a pickle here, head versus heart
Head versus heart Dan. You know, this is the Southeastern Conference, um,
but as time goes on, here's the bottom line, these
two conferences are going to separate themselves and everything financially,
um geographically, and everybody who's not involved is going to

(01:39:18):
be at a major disadvantage. So I'm gonna go with
one of the best across the board athletic departments in
the country that is not in the southeast portion of
the country. And I don't even know if they're fans
and administrators will be happy that I'm doing this. I'm
going with the University Connecticut Huskies, and I'm taking that

(01:39:38):
women's basketball program to the top. We got, you know,
I'll tell you who my who, who my head versus
my heart said, But listen, I will say this. I mean,
you know, one of the final eight teams in or
one of the final sixteen teams in college baseball, elite
women's basketball program, elite men's basketball program, elite Olympic sports.
It's not that crazy. It's is the football component. But

(01:40:01):
I already went with Duke in Kansas anyway, So what
are we talking about with football at this point? Yeah,
that's interesting. I did not have Yukon on the list
of possible teams. That was That was a curveball. Actually,
I thought you were gonna I figured you would go
up to the North. I figured that that would be
a possible draw. But I didn't think that you were
going to go to that portion. I actually thought you

(01:40:21):
were gonna take Syracuse. That's who I thought. It was
a thought. But I'll tell you who my my last
pick would have been after you make your select. Okay,
I'm gonna make my final pick, and I actually wish
I could add two more picks, but that's not the
way this works. Sometimes the rules in life are tough
and we have to live by them. I'm gonna go

(01:40:42):
with the Virginia Cavaliers. University of Virginia, solid program states
school that would work perfect with the academics in the
Big Ten. Virginia goes to the Big Ten and again
helps Maryland, helps North Carolina. Uh yeah, so I would
take Virginia with the final pick. Were they in your
final three at all? They weren't. Uh. It was down
to Yukon and then two schools. More from the football perspective,

(01:41:06):
I was intrigued by West Virginia. Um, just because I
like West Virginia. Why do they keep getting screwed in
all this realignment stuff? And then the other one, which
was the one that I was actually gonna take over Yukon,
was Virginia Tech. You know, eighty thousand seat football, it's
a it's an elite football area. UM. I don't really
know how good. They aren't pretty much anything else, now
that the baseball team was pretty good this year basketball

(01:41:27):
made the n c A Tournament, but Virginia Tech. Had
I not taken the Huskies, would have been the final answer.
And by the way, I did say it and I
mean it, I do know people uh that work in
the Yukon administration, all that the travel when they were
in the A A C. Which was obviously Houston and
SMU and whatever they said, it nearly killed him. So

(01:41:48):
I don't even know if they want to get plucked
out of the Big East at this point, Uh, they
might be mad. And now yeah, now they got to
fly to Tuscaloosa on a Tuesday. You think l A
to to Champagne is going to be tough for the Trojans.
But anyway, my my, you know, it's it's funny because
when I mentioned my last pick of Virginia, I wanted
to combine Virginia Virginia Tech keep that rivalry together and

(01:42:10):
was unable to do so because we only had so
many picks. But it also then makes me think to myself,
you know what, my block of you by using Louisville
actually ends up hurting me at the end, because I
don't know if Louisville was the best pick that I
may not number eight, but just ended up doing it
um because of uh, because a spite basically is the reason.
First of all, I think it was a good pick,

(01:42:30):
and I do wonder in hindsight maybe I should have
left Yukon, not just because it's my alma mater, but
I think they're happy in the Big Eastern, and I
don't know. I don't know that they want to be
recruiting against Alabama and Texas A and M in football,
So maybe, I, you know, hindsight, I know we can't
change our picks. I guess Virginia Tech still on the board.
I could just swipe them in and out. But do

(01:42:51):
you think of any Big twelve schools that were like
Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU, any of Almost State would have
been a good one. They're pretty good across the board.
In hindsight, that probably is one that I should have grabbed. Um,
I don't hate what I ended up with because I
ended up with three elite basketball schools, three elite football schools.
The football schools Clems in Miami, Florida State, the basketball

(01:43:13):
schools Kansas, Duke, and Yukon. But Oklahoma State is actually
another one of those schools that's probably better at a
lot of things than people realize. It's just because they're
not super elite at that at those high end sports.
Oklahoma State probably should have been on that list somewhere.
I I had thought of Utah in Colorado, but again,
like who do you match it up with? Like Colorado
would have been a little bit more natural because you

(01:43:34):
would have in Nebraska you could have an old you know,
Big eight, Big twelve sort of connection, but they're also
just kind of hanging out there. I felt like I
needed to make sure that that schools were paired up
so it's just not a random school here or there,
which also left the B y U out of the
equation as well. There it is all right, our twelve
school now we have twenty two team leagues and everybody
else can go and fight for the rest. I would

(01:43:55):
say this, when you look at where it is, it
will be interesting for this schools that we left because
there are some good names. You mentioned Virginia Tech, uh,
Kansas State, you mentioned West Virginia, some other schools. It
will be interesting to see on where they fall in
and how that all plays out, because you're gonna have
some really good schools, but the name may not be
in that great super big conference. He's erratorres, I'm dan Buyer.

(01:44:17):
Do we have another super team forming in the NBA?
It may be here sooner than you think. We'll explain
after mont Blans gives us the latest of what's happening
on this July three, a busy Sunday afternoon. Lots of baseball,
lots of baseball. You're right, only one game is still
going on the right now, and it's the Phillies and
the Cardinals. And I just got to say this Fourth

(01:44:37):
of July hat, it is disgusting. I don't know who
approved this at all. The teams is probably be wearing
it tomorrow. It is disgusting. It's it belongs to the
Toronto Raptors. It looks like a raptor came and slash
the hat. It does not look like a Fourth of
July hat. I don't understand who approved this, and I
know several people did. Everyone should be fired anyway. That's
the only game going on. Nobody on the scoreboard yet.

(01:45:00):
The Phillies. It's got an American flag on the front.
Someone's on patriotic. No, it doesn't look like a flag.
It looks like a raptor came and slash somebody's hat.
And the colors are red, white and blue. It does
not look like a flag. It is not very patriotic. No, no, no, no, no,
they could have done way better. You're just saying that,
but look at that. Disgusting. It just put you in design. Well,
I'll get in touch with no. Remember, remember we're on radio,

(01:45:25):
so we have to describe it. So we can't say,
look at that, it's a it's a red Phillies cap
with the front panel that's white and he is blue,
and then you have like a corner section that is
the stripe, and then the top portion is the stars
of the American flag. You're describing it so much better
than it actually looks. Okay, that's what it looks like.

(01:45:46):
And then you see what I mean. It just I
don't understand why it looks like a dinosaur attacked it.
I I just don't get it. I think it could
have been it was an American flag and then they
got mad. Yes, imagine an American flag cake and then
a cat putting its paw on it. Maybe not a
raptor like you said, but and then that's what it

(01:46:06):
would look like. Okay, fair cat, But yeah, I just
think it could have been a little bit better. Well, listen,
my boys in Blue, they dropped the ball against the
padres they were up going into the ninth inning, and
that was it. Then the Padres scored four runs in
the ninth inning and the Dodgers could not make up
for it, so they lost ford to two. The Padres
did not get swept by by beating the Dodgers today.

(01:46:27):
The Mariners beat the the A's earlier today, two to one.
The White Sox were just playing Merry go round. They
beat the Giants thirteen to four. More impressively, not a
single home run was hit by either team, and they
hit They had thirteen runs. Pretty incredible. The Rockies beat
the Diamondbacks. The Red Sox and the Cubs went to
eleven innings. Imagine going to eleven innings and then losing

(01:46:49):
like this, a little chopper on front of the plane
the catcher that gives way to the picture. And here
it comes that we had ron. Here it comes another
run home on the play, royal scoring after a total gift,
winning on an error on a throwing error. Red Sox

(01:47:10):
Radio network on the call, and that was the final
score for the game. While the Astros walked it off
to beat the Angels, the Reds walked it off to
beat the Braves. The Guardians shout out the Yankees. The
Yankees only had one hit in the game. I don't
know how they did that. While the Birds beat the
Pirates and Josh Hayder recorded his twenty five save of
the season, which leads all Major League Baseball, while the

(01:47:31):
Mariners are excuse me, the Marlins beat the Nationals. Now.
Something that we haven't actually talked about today is Odell
Beckham Jr. Tweeting last night quote crazy thought really played
the whole back half of the season without an a
c L and won a Super Bowl end quote. I'm
sorry what you played without an a c L. That
is absolutely nuts. But rich Orn Burger and the last

(01:47:52):
show said that that's totally possible, so I guess it's possible.
Speaking about bad knees, a time champion Roger Federer today
at Wimbledon's one Dred Years Center Court celebration, said that
he hopes to return to Wimbledon one more time. He
hasn't been playing. He had knee surgery. Uh last about
me and in August is when he announced that he
was having knee surgery, So he hasn't played in a

(01:48:12):
couple of months. He has forty but he says that
he hopes to return to Wimbledon one more time and
in the NBA. Yeah, the Raptors believe that they have
the best package to offer the Nets for all star
Kevin Durant. But there's one thing the Raptors are saying.
Rookie of the Year Scotty Barnes will not be included
in the package. Big part of it. But they said that. Yeah,

(01:48:33):
But apparently, um they're saying that Durant seems to be
open to Toronto, open to the idea. And obviously we
don't know what is going to happen with Kyrie and
Russell Westbrook, even though Yahoo Sports saying that the Lakers
and the Nets are actively engaged in this discussion to
trade Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving. Draft compensation is a
big talking point for the Nets. They also want to
include Joe Harrison the deal. Joe Harris is recovering from

(01:48:56):
left ankle surgery and he's oh thirty six point eight
million million over the next two years. Lakers instead wants
Seth Curry, who has an expiring contract, or eight point
five million. But again, all of this is said to
be preliminary at this point, so it's really a waiting game,
you know. To you guys, thank you very much. Monter Aaron.
Remember a few years ago when Bill Simmons got so

(01:49:18):
mad at the draft desk because he felt that teams
were helping out the Heat when they when they drafted
uh guy from your Alma Mata, Shabaz Napier. Remember there
was there was a trade and Bill Simmons was like,
it was mad because Lebron wanted Shabazz Napier and there
was a deal done that allowed the Heat to go
and get him to remember that vaguely, Yeah, okay, and

(01:49:41):
Bill Simmons is managing Why are teams helping out the Heat?
And Bill Simmons got a lot of flak. This is
when he was a member of ESPNO, being like, all right,
you know, you know, being a fan of a team,
you know you're a Celtics fan, blah blah blah. But
that is how I feel with some of this stuff,
Like if the Lakers get away from this Russell Westbrook deal,
I understand that what for whatever whatever deal that a

(01:50:02):
team does with them is for that other team's best
interest or at least what they feel. I just don't
like those teams giving the Lakers like a get out
of jail free card basically, And and and it may
not be that easy, but it frees them of Russell Westbrook.
And yet and and this goes back on the talk
of the Pacers maybe doing a deal that would allow

(01:50:25):
Russell Westbrook to go to Indiana because Indiana is going
to try to clear her salary and and I just
I understand what it would be from like say, the
Pacers perspective, but it just annoys me when some of
these teams don't have to pay a certain penalty, like
Brooklyn is gonna have to pay the piper, Oklahoma City
is paying the piper for Kevin Durant leaving, and have

(01:50:46):
really for the last five years, the Lakers would have
like one bad season or one bad half of a
season and they could get away with it and move on.
And that's what annoys me at times about the NBA.
Uh Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt, right, And
and it's well, it's interesting because you know, I do
think it goes without saying and maybe this is super
naive to even insinuate otherwise, but I do think Westbrook

(01:51:10):
Kyrie is an upgrade over Westbrook, but it's not like
a super significant upgrade. But you know, it was funny
I was talking to Jason Martin about this the last
night on our show. Whenever you trade and the history
of the NBA, and maybe you can think of an
example that I can't think of, but whenever you end
up trading one super distressed asset for another, and your

(01:51:32):
argument is, well, yeah, this guy has his flaws, but
at least he's not as bad as the last guy,
it generally doesn't really end up working out for either side, right,
And obviously the most recent example is James Harden Ben Simmons.
Ben Simmons says, you have to play a game for
Brooklyn James Harden, of course? Uh lad the Sixers all
the way to the second round where which is where
they would have gotten without him. So, you know, I

(01:51:54):
I understand the anti Laker sentiment of oh, you know,
of course they get out of Westbrooks contract and get Kyrie. It.
I mean, you know, we've we've talked about Kyrie through
the last couple of weeks. We don't need to revisit everything,
but um, but I don't know that he's gonna be
like as big of a difference maker as a lot
of people make enough to be. I find I find

(01:52:14):
this interesting with that sort of thing. Never in any
of these conversations is that when it comes to Kyrie
and the Lakers, is the point brought up, are they
good enough to beat the Warriors? It's it's totally fair,
and it's something you know. I I know that we
brought it up last night. Was like I saw an article.
I was just doing research making sure I didn't miss

(01:52:34):
any any part of it, and they were like, well,
with the addition of Kyrie Irving and a healthy Anthony Davis,
this makes them a title favorite. And I was like, no,
it doesn't. I mean, I would very convincingly put them
at no better than third, well behind Golden State, well
behind Milwaukee. I think they'd be more on par with
a Miami. If Miami obviously doesn't get durant with a Boston,

(01:52:57):
can they get back to the NBA Finals, then I
would say that they're on the Golden State or even
Milwaukee level in my opinion. I just when we talk
about the tim roll of trade like to get Rudy Gobert,
the question is, well, geez, how they're gonna deal with
Golden States small ball lineup? But we just we don't
know that conversation with with the Lakers. We just beat Man.
They can get Kyrie. To your point, Yeah, this team
would be amazing looking at what they would and and

(01:53:19):
it's just different conversations for really what the same goal
would be. And I find that crazy. And again, the
halves of the NBA, and there are about six or
seven halves in the NBA, and kind of everybody else
is I have not that goes up and down. But
I just to get it just annoys me when people
give the Lakers or other teams get out of jail

(01:53:39):
free cards because it helps I know what helps them,
but it just annoys me when it happens. He's Ara Torres,
I'm Dan Buyer. This is a Fox Sports Sunday. We're
gonna wrap up this show coming up next because there
is a new interesting team involved in the Kevin Durant Sweepstakes.
It's not the sun, it's not the heat, and it's
not the raptors will tell you it is next year
on Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday. He's Erin Torre

(01:54:02):
As I'm Dan Buyer. We will be getting to the
fallout from our big twelve sec school Draft. The I
want to let you know that the USFL championship game
is underway on Fox as we speak, Birmingham taking on Philadelphia.
It's early scoreless as they play the championship game in Canton, Ohio,

(01:54:24):
before we get to the controversial pick of Aaron taking
Yukon to add to the sec I do want to
point this out. Mark Spears of ESPN says in a tweet,
and he made these comments as well on on other platforms,
saying that the Warriors have an interest in Kevin Durant,

(01:54:44):
saying it's no surprise to me they have an interest,
so does more than half the league. It's Kevin Durant.
You better make that call. If you're an NBA g M,
it's Kevin Durant, and and I will. We talked about
it earlier. We put something out at sports radio dot
com if you want to hear it. I thought it
would really help. Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City was thought

(01:55:05):
of as a potential suitor or a or in play
for Durant services errand if he goes back to the Warriors,
it is going to be times ten for the fact
that he gets And that may be an understatement. Well
in two things. One, I think it speaks to what
I've said on this show, what I said on Doug
Gottlieb on Friday, what I said on my own show

(01:55:25):
last night. It does speak to if that happens, Kevin
Durant having the best, the biggest disparity between skills on
the court and complete lack of awareness off the court.
That's one, but too it would also answer the age
old question that has never been able to be answered,
which was if you remember seventy three wins Golden State

(01:55:47):
Warriors the year before Kevin Durant signed with the Warriors,
the question always was, if they win the championship as
the greatest team ever, could they then signed Kevin Durant
that free agent offseason or could Kevin Durant go there? Well,
this is an apples to apples, but they're coming off
a championship, and are they willing to pseudo blow it up,
which they would have to do to get Kevin Durant.

(01:56:09):
I don't know, but it's going to be interesting. Would
you would blow it up if you were going I
wouldn't because I think they're in a perfect spot. I
think they're in a perfect spot of they have these superstars,
but they're built for the future and Listen, we can't
say if Jordan Pool and Jonathan Cominga and Moses Moody
are gonna be able to carry this another ten years.

(01:56:31):
But I know what won't happen. I know what won't happen,
which is what will happen, is Kevin Durant's gonna come there.
He won't be happy. Um he He'll get all the
same criticism and in two or three years he'll want
to leave. And even if he wants to stay, even
if he's happy, he's as you said, what about to
be thirty four years old? Er is thirty four years old? Steps, yes,

(01:56:51):
steps thirty four clays coming off two injuries. I mean,
you got a window of probably two more years before
it all falls apart. Here have those young guys, so
I wanted I don't. I know that was a super
long answer. You probably want to get in some thoughts,
but I just don't know what what the gain would
be of Like when he joined Golden State, they were

(01:57:12):
coming off of that finals loss. Golden State needed another piece.
They needed to bring in the Slim Reaper. I know
he's not a fan of that nickname, but they needed
that other piece. The way that the NBA is laid
out right now for what they did. Golden State may
not win the title next season, but it's not like
they're getting over a hump. It's not like they're trying to,
you know, beat Lebron James and a Lakers team. No

(01:57:35):
matter what people think what may happen with the Lakers,
they wouldn't be They would be on top of the mountain.
At least there would be some leeway when you look
back at Durance move on why they needed him and
and some of that validated by Draymond making that call
and Draymond reiterating recently that they needed him to win
that title, but there is no need. I think it
would be bad for the NBA if he did that again.

(01:57:58):
One of the great things I liked about the NBA
of the season was the parody. And then I realized
that the parody made a pretty uninteresting NBA playoffs. So
you still need like these Beacon teams of these top
marquee teams, and if you have Golden State just better
than everyone with him, um, yeah, it would be interesting
if they lose, But if they don't lose, it's just
a complete complete bore for the NBA. Real quick I

(01:58:19):
know we're up on time. Do you believe that the
Golden State Warriors will at all consider this? I I
think that they will consider it, but I think in
the end that they will not move those pieces. I
just think by the end of the Kevin Durant era,
it didn't seem like anybody was all that happy. Um.
And and that includes not just Kevin Durant, that includes
a lot of the Warriors people, and then include Steve Kerr,

(01:58:42):
and I just think you're coming off a championship. Every
Bob Myers, to his credit and Steve Kerr made sure
to credit him after after the Finals, has them set
up for the next ten years. It's not an eighteen
month window like it is with the Lakers or with
this team. With that team, they are really well set
up for the future. I wouldn't do it if I
was Golden State. I know it sounds crazy. Oh my goodness,
it's Kevin Durant. I want to do it. He's Aaron Torres,

(01:59:03):
I'm Dan Buyer. The tweets floating in at Aaron underscore
Torres and at Dan Buyer on Fox over Aaron's pick
of yukon Um. It was a Homer pick. At the
end of our conference draft, I took Louisville solely to
block yours. That's the pick that I'm getting FLAK four.
If you want to see the draft, if you want
to see who we picked for the SEC in the
Big ten UH, you can go and hit up our
Twitter pages. Have a great safe and UH happy July

(01:59:27):
three and then into the fourth you and are back
out of tomorrow, right Aaron, Yes, ten Eastern seven Pacific
for a July fourth special. Be safe everyone, We'll talk
to you tomorrow on Fox
