Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio. I love Dan Patrick. All right, what's up, buddy?
I love Dan Patrick too, but I love Cavino en
Rich for Dan Patrick live from the Mercedes he's been studios.
Good morning, Guten Mortigan, Let's do it again. I'm Steve Cavino,
that is Rich. David's a lot of energy for this

(00:21):
early in the morning. Yeah, but we're fired up to
be here. Lots to talk about, lots of fun to have.
That's our whole goal. Have a good time. Yeah, it's sports,
it's fun. It's not that serious as every young person says,
let's go. As we've established that's every ween eels rally
cry before they do anything. It's like, hey, dude, you

(00:43):
want to take a walk to the mailbox, let's sef
and go. It is true. I want to go seven eleven,
get a slurpee. Let's seven go. Yeah, I was thinking
about grabbing some chick fili. What do you think Let's go.
It's true. And you said your boy polar Bear Pete Alonzo,
invented it. You said, I didn't say he invented it,
said he invented the saying no, Pete Pete Alonzo does

(01:06):
the lf GM and by throwing the f and there
all the fans like, man, Pete's edgy, like he's a
fan favorite, and that's edgy for baseball. That's crazy in baseball. Now,
let's go, let's do this eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox Again. Steve Cavino from Union, New Jersey out

(01:26):
here in the mean streets of alais Rich Davis from
Long Island Again. Joel is here. Hey, Joel, we got
Ralph in the building, and of course any superstar producer. Hey,
how do you feel about Pete Alonzo? Well, we're gonna
get to Baker in a second, don't work. How do
you feel about Pete Alonzo saying yeah, I'll do the
home run Derby if you guys vote me the starter

(01:47):
in the game. That's something like cool little threat action
going on, you know, Polar Bear. Pete, as we just established,
has proven to be an outspoken fella. I'm really strong,
a big strong gun. Yeah, I'll take him down, a
big strong guy. A couple of years ago, when he
won the Derby, he said, I'm the best power hitter

(02:09):
in the game. He said it, you know what I mean,
Like he came out and made a statement. So I'm
not that surprised he's taking that route. And as we
already said, baseball needs personality. Yeah, and I'm all for it.
I like it. He's trying to get votes, he's campaigning,
takes a serious I like it. I like it. So

(02:30):
we'll get to a little more baseball. Well, we'll see
what's going on around the world of sports. Now. I
do want to talk about Otani today. Otani needs to
be spoke of. You mean, the best little league player ever,
That's what he is. He's the best little league player
ever after me. Of course, because people wonder, oh, what
makes Cavino and Rich qualifying to be on Fox Sports Radio, Well,

(02:52):
check our resumes. Hey, twenty seven little league home runs
and hold on, Joel. You don't know that. Joel knows
that because he has your baseball card. I know. I
want the little Wooden border. Yeah, yeah, seven to nineteen
eighty seven. I'll tell you what he doesn't know this though.
Former whiffleball champion. Yes, okay, right from Union, New Jersey.

(03:16):
You're eighty seven, Don Russ nice. Yeah, yeah, that was
a good one too, rookie. I have my Danny G.
Leaf card. Import. Yeah, the Canadian import. Oh Beckett says
this worth negative dollars. That's weird. So yeah, rich um
Otani is incredible. He might as well play shortstop to

(03:36):
round out his little league style of play. Meaning if
if people don't get the reference, like he plays both
sides of the field and he's always getting dirty. You know,
he's he's on the mound dirty because he's like a
great little league player, but he's doing it in the
big leagues. You know what everyone else is talking about Baker.
We could put Baker Mayfield and I have a lot

(03:57):
of great thoughts about Baker and where does this leave
the Browns? Where does this leave Carolina? We'll get to
that a few but great thoughts. That's that's a polar
Bear Pete sort of promise. I got the greatest thoughts.
If you vote me in, I'll tell you all about him.
I'm a big, strong guy. I left GM Pete Alonso.
Before we get to Baker, let's let's talk about it,
Tanny for a second. I heard Gary Cohen Mets played

(04:21):
by play Guy yesterday saying, you really you really admire
Gary Cohen, Gary Keith and Ron If you're a Mets fan,
even if you're not. I credit them for the years
with the Mets stink, and they're just so entertaining in
the booth that you could watch a crappy game and
still be entertained by their banter. I don't know if
you saw what was trending last night, but Carlos Peltonn

(04:43):
is also very entertaining in the booth. He's eating every inning,
isn't he. The dude is trending all the time because
of all of his insight. I do find it Entertainingum,
he's insight. Beltron's I love Beltron, except for when he
looked at Adam Wayne Wright's curveball strike three, you know,
fifteen years ago. If you guys don't know, he gets

(05:05):
criticized terribly for stating the obvious. That's really why he's trending.
I thought it was silly at I thought you were
joking at first, and then it'll be like, well, he's
with Michael ka correct most of the time. Yeah, like so, Michael,
if he gets ball far, then then he walks the heater.
The heater, it's the heather he he hit home. Ron.

(05:26):
The basic lot is a grand slam, it's four rons.
The Yankees used like, that's why, that's his insight. That's
really what he says, and it's it's hilarious. But he's
breaking down the game. Here's how he runners on base.
If he gets a hit, players will score. And that's good.
It's good. It's good, you know, and um, I appreciate it.
I do as he Yankees fans, I'm like, you don't

(05:47):
want it's a good point. I'll always remember. Every time
is good. It's good. In fact, I can use one
for breakfast every time. Grants on breakfast does sound good.
Every time I think of Carlos Beltron, yeah, I know
he's a broadcaster. Now, I don't think of the astro scandal.
I don't think of him looking at curveball Adam Wainwright

(06:07):
strike three. I don't even picture him gliding through the
outfield like a gazelle. I picture that one time where
he stupidly painted his head as a joke. He was
on the Rangers, I believe, right, Yeah, and he comes
into the dugout and he painted his head black as
like a goop. Right, that was great. I do remember
that there's speculation that he really wants to be and

(06:28):
should be a coach but the criticism is really terrible.
Like I said, that's why he trends almost every time
for these these beltran Is ms. Well, he's got obvious servations, right,
He's got obvious servations, his baseball observations, which again are
insightful for people who don't really know the game at all,
which which is important. But man, he gets destroyed because

(06:54):
people say, forget about Joey Gallo, Yankees need to get
rid of Beltrap's not serious. Maybe he's getting better. I'm
not here to criticize, right, that's a great gig. I'm
just telling you why I find it entertaining because every
night the dude is trending. He was trending again last night.
Now I feel like I want to watch a Yankee
broadcast just to play the game of what is Beltron

(07:17):
gonna say next? That's the game now, it's wild. It's
a growing thing. So I didn't mean to interrupt you
about Gary Cohen. It's just we're going from one extreme
to the other. The Mets, if you guys don't know.
And again, we're East Coast guys, and that's how we
grew up and we worked at s n Y New York.
Rich really loves Gary Cohen, Keith and Ron, and they're

(07:39):
known to be the best in the booth. They're just
known for being some of the greats. And Keith Hernandez
very outspoken, puts his opinion out there, never holds back.
Ron Darling does double duty for TBS stuff. He's fantastic
Any Award winner. I'm a Yankees guy, and I love
these guys because I watch them day and day out
and I get to know them. But they have a
different reputation in the booth. So Gary was saying yesterday

(08:02):
during the Mets Reds broadcast, and by the way, I
want to parlay yesterday. Everybody. Yeah, for me, I bet
Mets Yankees parlay because they both lost a day ago.
Just had that. It's yesterday. Yeah, I haven't bet in
a minute, But they had lost to the Pirates and
the Reds two days ago, and I said, there's no
way on earth the Mets and the Yankees lose two

(08:22):
in a row. I got the Pirates and the rest.
I got a question. And that's a great thought. But
our day yesterday was action packed. When did I have
to We filled in for Dan Patrick for the past
two days. We did our podcast. We did our podcast.
You recorded all your serious XM stuff. We both had
to do our music stuff for SXM. You got two
little rugrats, but you thought to yourself, I need more

(08:44):
action bringing the action. That's you're a wild dude. Man,
You're a weird guy. So I'm watching and Gary Cohen
brings up the point that if Otani plays like this,
he has to be MVP every year. And you could say, well,

(09:06):
that's crazy, because there's gonna be guys that like an
Aaron Judge. He's not stacking up to Aaron Judge on
the offensive side of things. But you know what, he's
probably not stacking up to a Garrett call or. I
don't know who's the al Cy Young candidate right now Verland.
They're probably at thirty nine. He's in the conversation for sure.

(09:28):
But if Otani is bat in two sixty on pace
for forty home runs one hundred rbi, and he's eight
and four with a two point four four e r rad.
He's had four starts in a row with zero runs,
it dis guys playing both sides of the ball like
a little leaguer. How could he not automatically be MVP?

(09:49):
You're getting two for one player, Did you see this
stack two for one? You threw these stats out, But
something else I saw from my guy Dwayne stats on
a throwback Thursday, Great old school. He's also a broadcaster,
so it's a great reference. Soon since we were just
talking about broadcasters. Otani's the first player since the RBI

(10:10):
became official in nineteen twenty. So when you have to
go back that far just to find your place in
the record books, you're doing something special, right, first player
ever since nineteen twenty to do all of the following
in a single game. Ten strikeouts as a pitcher, two

(10:30):
RBI as a batter, and stole a base. If that's
not like a little league game, Like that's like your
names in the newspaper because you were a standout player
in that game in little league. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable.
You look around the ale, which should end, that should
end with and he won Player of the Game and

(10:51):
got a free hot dook and he got a ticket
for a hot dog and an ice cream cup. Yeah,
but you can talk about Aaron Judge or who would else?
Who would be other candidates, Jose Ramirez, Raphael Devers, these
guys are are trying it up MVP candidates. I get that,
but you can't deny what Otani is doing. It's unbelievable,

(11:14):
and I think the one thing we all need to
remind ourselves and maybe we tell them maybe you know
this and you're like, not rich, I don't need to
be reminded. Babe Ruth. You might have heard of him,
Oh the babe, you say, I love old Babe Ruth
coverage because it's always about Babe disrespecting someone. But they

(11:35):
loved it. Oh yeah, baby used to smack me in
the back of the head and try to sleep at
my wife. That was the babe. It's like, what that
was the babe? The babeliff stinker in my toilet and
he told me I was terrible, but that was just
a babe that was to be be and the babe.
Then he hits me home runs that day and then
he punched me, but I deserved it. Probably that's the babe.

(11:58):
I'm dead serious. I feel like that's one of those
where he's like he'd abuse everyone else's bathroom on the road,
and you know how many hot dogs he was having,
almost as many as Joey Chestnut. He'd slapped his teammates around,
he'd flirt with their wives, but they're like, oh shucks,
well that was just a babe. And then he'd hit
like four bombs that day and they loved him for it.
But you know what, Babe Ruth never really did. It's

(12:19):
one of those misconceps she owns, not a Dave concepcion,
a misconception, misconceptsion like Dave conceptsi on. The misconception is
that he was pitching and hitting for multiple years. Babe
did his pitching and then sort of was like, no,
I'm sort of done with that. That's when he became

(12:39):
the home run bohemoth known as Babe Ruth. Yeah, he
was more of a I mean again to my understanding. Yeah,
but if you look up to his sure with the
Red Sox and yeah, but he was never doing what
Otani did on the regular. That's the crazy twilights are
in black and white, though it makes it difference. I
was highly even we glorify the past, Otani's doing something
more incredible if you ask well, because back then, j'a'll

(13:01):
think about it, Babe was the babe. I'm not taking
anything away from the face of old school baseball, but
he did not have to compete against black players, Hispanic players.
He was in old school baseball where there were fewer teams,
lesser competition. He was a man among little boys. But
what Otani's doing on an international level right now, playing
against everyone who's capable of playing, I think it's one

(13:23):
of the most spectacular things you're ever going to say. Yeah,
Tanny steals bases, But have you ever seen how fast
Babe Ruth trots around the basis and that high speed
black and white that I don't know if his high
speed black and white film or it's just it's just
how fast he was. No, I think he just yeah
as he trots on the basis like stone bowling. Yeah. Man,

(13:48):
what else? What was he wearing? Those cleats, those little
tap shoes? Yeah, hed his church shoes on, he did,
I'll tell you to Babe. He'd come out and playing
his huge shoes and hit three home runs. That was
the babe. But that was the babe. Then he slapped
me in the face in the dugout. Man, I love
the babe. That really wasn't story everybody loved about Like, Babe,

(14:12):
we were in the locker room and Babe, he peeed
on me, no, but there was a story like that. Seriously, Now,
he would disrespect all of his teammates, but it would
be but in a goofing enough way where everyone's like,
that's the babe. Yeah, Well, I just want to throw
it out there to start today's show that he's a
modern day babe. But even you're saying next level, considering

(14:33):
the full package, the full package, the competition level, who
he has to compete against, and the fact that he's
on pace for forty home runs, over a hundred ribbies,
his era rays in the low twos right now, as
you know, four games in a row, goose eggs. The
guy's in his own pitching now. So okay, so let

(14:55):
me ask you though, and think about this, ya, Fox
Sports Radio Nation, if he wins MVP, because of course
he's in the discussion. That was sort of the whole Yeah,
who said it, Garry Cohen? Jerry Cohen, sort of the
whole thing. And I agreed. I said, you listen, if
he is competing like this on both sides of the ball,

(15:17):
pitching and hitting, fine, and he keeps it up and
Aaron Judge keeps it up, and he hits over sixty
home runs, bats over three hundred. You think that's fair
that he doesn't get anything. No, like, that's just absurd
baseball right now, he's that good. He leads the league
in everything. I mean, I don't want to be nerds
stack guy. But if you go back to the two thousands,
there were years where Pool Holts or certain guys put

(15:39):
up sickening numbers. But Barry Bonds was walking like two
hundred times a year. Barry Bonds bat at three seventy.
You could look at it this way, Rich, You know
you can see to Garry Cohen, well, Ohtani qualifies for
Cy Young or MVP. You know he qualifies from multiple things.

(16:00):
So let him throwing his hat into that. All right,
your thoughts and we will get into Baker Mayfield. Where
does this leave Cleveland? Are you're rooting for Baker? I
feel like this is the story of the year so far. No, no, okay.
I can't wait to hear all about it, Joel Danny
gez here. I see Ralph going into the booth. I
love Ralph's thoughts on this. We have more Cavino and
Rich next, and for Dan Patrick. Be sure to catch

(16:23):
the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at
nine am Eastern, six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
in the iHeartRadio WAP. Welcome back to CNR on FSR,
Cavino and Rich live in the Mercedes Ben Studio. And
for Dan Patrick, do you want to thank everyone expecting

(16:44):
to hear Dan Patrick for putting up with us? That's us,
thank you and I feel like we've had some fun
shows the past few days. If you missed any Fox
Sports Radio dot com and if you want to chime
into us again at Covino Enrich on social media and
of course eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox you
consider to wrap up the whole Otani thing because now

(17:04):
I'm ready for my Baker stuff. Well, I'm sure we'll
touch on it again. Dude had an amazing night, an
amazing year so far. When you look at Otani, yeah,
do you consider him Bo Jackson Dion Sanders like or
can you not look at it that way? I guess
while he's doing two different things, it's within the same sport.

(17:25):
Is it less more or equally remarkable to you? Deon
Sanders one of the best defenders in football, He's play baseball.
I was more impressed by what Bo Jackson did, though, personally,
and maybe that has something to do with childlike wonder
you know I was a kid and that poster you had,

(17:45):
and I was influenced by techmobile too, that is true,
you know, like he's you have to run out of
angle thought running? Yeah, and think of this, think of
it this way, Joe. You remember the poster where he
had the baseball bat and the shoulder pads on. We
were we were like soul that Bo Jackson was the greatest,
which he was at that moment. Think about how invincible
you thought Mike Tyson was because because of his knockouts

(18:11):
pet and the things he said, I'm ferocious and of
course the video game built this mistique he was unbeatable. Yeah. Right,
and again you were a kid. She's like, Wow, what
I'm seeing right now is unbelievable. That's how I felt
about Bo Jackson growing up. Am I still amazed by Otani? Yeah?

(18:33):
How would I have felt if I was a kid.
I don't know. I mean, I wonder if kids now
look at Otani the way we looked at bo Jackson.
I think, so bo Jackson climbing the wall, making catches
but never but then also running for a hundred yards
in a picture. I think that that adds more to it.
I mean, that's a skill specifically incredible. But you're taking
two separate sports, right, Like there's people who don't even

(18:58):
like baseball because they think it's born, so they're like, oh, yeah,
Tony does both. That's great. Those same people were still impressed.
What you're trying to say is that would be like
Aaron Judge not only hitting fifty home runs, Aaron Judge
suiting up and catching like passes over the minerals as
a tight end. So yeah, impressing, not only impressing not
only baseball fans but football fans alike. The two sports,

(19:18):
the two sports, is a little more impressed Tony over
there with the two sporters. But that pitching and hidden
in baseball, Yeah, now he's got to be the greatest
at that. What else you think he could do? I
don't know if anyone's even what he needs to do.
He needs to sail a little bits, you know, Yeah,
because if he don't sail himself, because what Cavino has

(19:39):
mentioned is everybody could sail. Now that picture that's the seller. Yeah, no,
you're right about that, shol What else could he do?
That's something I don't know, chef. Say he goes to
Flavor Town with Guy Fietti, the five interviews. See, that's
the thing I remember. Remember like a year ago, there
was that big debate could he be the face of

(20:00):
baseball if he needs a translator? And there was a
lot of controversy. I still figure could be the face
of baseball. You're right, but he needs to needs to
sell it a little more. But here's the thing, what
else could he do? It is a great question because
he doesn't do much press. So what if what if
we find out like Otani's like, yeah, if I wanted to,
I'm pretty good at basketball. I bet you he could
sim I mean because a guy like that who commercials

(20:21):
wouldn't like helmets on. Nobody know it, ye Harley's I'm
telling you. If if Otani, oh, you think you're saying
he should have a campaign like a bo No sort of.
If Otani could do what he does now, you don't
think he grew up playing everything. He probably could. Imagine
Otani has some skills in another sport and we don't
even know it. I'm sure that's the easy one. Imagine

(20:43):
he retires and he becomes like a top tier golfer Rich,
you should be like pr guy. He needs a new campaign.
Cornhole Oh, cornhole champion, yep. I'm sure he's got skills somewhere.
Hot dog eightier. Yeah, he can knock out sixty four
over a chestnut. There's only one great Now. I'm a

(21:06):
I'm thinking about Baker Mayfield this morning because I wonder
what he's thinking new home. Why don't you let me
hit him up, let me text him, dive into his DMS.
You guys lived a fun fact, Danny g Joel Ralph
Rich lived in the same building as Baker Mayfield for
for like a summer, right, And Danny j you want
to know the fun fact? You got a sloppy seconds

(21:29):
he slipping my wife. No, I'm joking out. Oh that's
just Mayfield. No, I because out of context. Right, I'm
living in southern California. My wife and I move out here,
and there's just some young dude that's always working out
on the roof. He's got like good looking girls and
you know, young dudes stopping by the apartment complex. It's
a nice place I lived in and I would always

(21:50):
just say what's up, little fish bump in the elevator. Hey,
what's up? Out of context. He's playing for Cleveland at
the time, he's a rookie. He's going from college to
playing for Cleveland. Yeah, this is like fresh out of college.
I wasn't assuming Baker Mayfield lived in my building. I
just said it was a young dude. And then after
he moved out in the football season started, one of

(22:11):
the old guys in my building was like, man, now
the Baker's not here, there's not all that rookiss. I'm like,
what do you mean you know Baker Mayfield? What are
you talking about? It goes you know the young dude
that was always on the roof working out, that was
Baker Mayfield. I felt like such a dummy. Yeah, the
headbands didn't give it away. All the dancing and of context,
all the dancing and the headbands didn't didn't give it away.

(22:34):
You've never seen like your prop tops. Remember when you're
a kid and you saw your teacher outside the classroom,
where you see like the ups guy in regular clothes,
you don't recognize him. It's true. I mean, I guess
I didn't expect him to wear Cleveland Brown's helmet everywhere,
but still, you're right out of context, it was his
first year, so it wasn't like but you know what's
interesting is out of context, I remembered seeing that guy.

(22:55):
I'm like, oh, that that was Baker may Yeah. I
did remember seeing him there because I was in an
out of your place all the time. Yeah, if you
just see a dude walking around your apartment complex, you
don't assume it's a guy that plays for a team
you know, across the country. So just any personal story
Baker Mayfield. I'm rooting big time for this guy. And
I'll tell you why. If you missed the news yesterday

(23:16):
and you're living under a rock. He is now a
Carolina Panther. And I always thought that Baker Mayfield was
a guy that was easy to root for. A lot
of other people was like hate on Baker. I think
he brought a vibe to Cleveland that they had not
seen in years. They were one and thirty one, leading

(23:38):
into when Baker Mayfield became a Cleveland Brown. Well, not
only for the organization, right for the team gave him life,
created a culture identity they became. They went from a
nobody in Nowhereville two Within a year or so, they
were in the conversation of Super Bowl favorites, playoff contenders.
He took that team. No may people want made the
casual fan wanted to tune into the Browns. You know what.

(24:01):
It made free agents and other players want to actually
possibly go to Cleveland. He brought a i'll use the
word on a throwback Thursday, but he brought a swag
yeah to the Browns and Baker it seems like every
other year he delivered. I don't know of you. If
you really think about Baker starts out there seven eight
and one. Now that might not sound great, but that's

(24:22):
coming off of garbage right. It's like, Wow, Baker almost
got him into the playoffs. Then they had a setback
year six and ten, then the eleven and five year
where they made it to the AFC Championship Game and
played tight with the Kansas City Chiefs, and then last
year you could say riddled with injury. Pat Mahomes here,

(24:42):
I just gotta say nothing but respect for Baker Mayfield.
You know, the true competitor, plays a lot of heart.
But continue on, carry on, thanks, Pat mahomes not you,
not you, pet. He was eight and nine last year
mid season. If you remember that whole NFC North had
the same record, and it was just a matter of

(25:03):
a couple of games where I remember Pittsburgh snuck into
the playoffs last year, so Cleveland was close. Baker Mayfield
essentially took a team that no one cared about, that
had what like forty quarterbacks in forty years, it seemed
every year Grant opening Grand clothing. Baker Mayfield was the guy.

(25:23):
He was consistent. In my mind, I don't know about you,
Baker Mayfield was the first quarterback in Cleveland since Bernie Kozar.
That meant anything in my mind. I'm not gonna argue
with you. The first guy since Bernie Kozar when we
were little kids, the first guy since Bernie freaking Coosar
that you could be like, oh, Cleveland's got a quarterback

(25:45):
that isn't some lame duck. Isn't some guy that they're
looking to replace. Wanted to see what he was gonna do.
That's the truth it was. There was a point where
Baker and the Browns became must watch football where for
what seemed like decades, they were Garbaggio. Yeah, and he
had and he has a confidence about him. Danny Jay,

(26:06):
is he going to back it up? Let's well, I'll
tune in and find out since we were kids with
Ernest Biner and Bernie Cars. Am I right? Do you
feel like? Do you feel like time sort of stood
still in Cleveland where no one cared until Baker? Am
I overstating his relevance? I don't think I am not
at all. Yeah, so far, I'm not disagreeing with you
at all. He was the one to come change the

(26:29):
game and it It's crazy how quick everybody turned on him.
That's you're right. He had multiple injuries, he was he
was battling last season. How about this too, Duny g
like he came with hype, right, so to even come
close to the hype he came with as impressive. There
were other guys that came in hype, right John even
football great example there there. You could go through a

(26:51):
list of all the quarterbacks that were going to quote
change around the Browns. Didn't work for anyone except this guy.
Unless you call the only prize the Lombardi Trophy. He
came as close as you can to doing what it
was expected, right. Yeah. Credit culture. Yeah, in the first
two years he had dude who coaches. Stefanski didn't come

(27:14):
in until what I believe year three. Right, so you're
looking at a guy that he's in TV commercials. He's
sort of likable. Even has a little back and forth
with Cowherd about the backwards hat. Like he was a guy,
he's a personality in the NFL that delivered played hurt.
There's something likable. You know what else he did? He
tell with a lot of criticism, like a lot and

(27:35):
you know what, I feel like he handled it pretty
pretty good good, And I want to make it clear
of this. So far, I've agreed with everything Richard said,
because I feel like there's something I might disagree with,
But so far, you're right. I'm just taking you through,
in my opinion, the storyline of Baker Mayfield. Right, so
now how we felt watching him. He has some injuries,

(27:57):
but he's going to be ready to go next year.
But the Cleveland Browns get into the Shawn Watson sweepsticks okay,
and he's got to be thinking, okay here, trying to upgrade,
aren't you. It's like dating someone and she's always looking around,
always looking around. Yeah, she wants to upgrade where she Beyonce?
Let me upgrade you? What the hell's going on? Cleveland?

(28:19):
You got Baker Mayfield and now you're just looking for
the next five piece of booty. Like a relationship. He's thinking,
I gave you everything I had. Yeah, I did. I dance,
moved to Cleveland. I moved to Cleveland. That's the part
I always wonder about. When did it first dawn on
him that in this relationship, if you're looking at it

(28:40):
as a relationship, when did she check out? That's the question.
During the injuries, I played hurt for you. He played
hurt for them. He tried, he tried to battle, tried
to When the Browns wouldn't let Baker Mayfield look at
their phone anymore, why are you picking up my phone? Well,

(29:00):
I'm just I'm looking at the time. Stay off my phone.
That's when you knew when he was healthy enough to
play that that wasn't the last game of the season.
They said, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, coach want to
see you. You don't have to play that. You know
when it started going downhill, when the Browns started diving
into other quarterbacks dms. Yeah, that's what it was. Was

(29:23):
it Odell Beckham's family, No, No, it's like you don't
want the Browns to hear you think. Yeah, the Browns
you know if you if you can go back. The
Browns liked three photos in a row from Deshaun Watson,
saying that that indicates like, I'm more than like your photos,
like I'm trying to get your attention at this point.

(29:43):
Why'd you uh, why'd you like his photos? Yeah? Wow,
nothing wrong with that. How do you know the DM limited?
I know because I know the game, Joe. I know
if you like three in a row, you're trying to
be not some thirst. Yeah, some thirst happening, And that
means you went to their page specifically to like they
liked an old photo, which means like they had to

(30:05):
be scrolling to like that photo. So like a picture
from two years ago. That means they're scrolling Son and
Baker was like, wow, man, the Browns, my girl like
three in a row from what Whatson in a row? Like,
That's like cool now now, Browns after I gave them
everything I want Browns fans to and there's so many

(30:26):
great Cleveland Browns fans. They're loyal, they stuck by this team.
If you have negative feelings towards Baker Mayfield, I have
to know why, because guy gave you everything. Can I
say one thing again, this is outside looking in. I'm
not a Browns fan, but I watched Mayfield. I rooted
for him, I liked him. I did find it a
little polarizing when he, you know, with his with his antics,

(30:46):
Like I thought it was a little irolly, a little
bit like when he's just dancing every three minutes and
posting videos. And I know that's fun and that's today's
game and that's today's world. But I did find it
a little irritating. I'm sure fans did, like some old
school fans. Now, all right, enough with the dance moves,
I see it. Let's see it on the field. So
now we've taken you through the story of Baker Mayfield.

(31:09):
They go after Deshaun Watson, and oh my god, surprise
they got him. And as we said before, possibly the
worst deal of all time. Let's reenact it. I'll be
the Cleveland Browns. You beat the Shaun Watson, you know,
the Sean, those girls and all the things are saying,
that's not true, is it? Nah? You sure? Yep? Here's

(31:31):
a couple hundred million dollars. Yeah, that's I could only
imagine the conversation went that way, because otherwise, what the
hell are you doing not even a couple two hundred
and thirty million dollars well right for someone in questions.
So now Baker's like, I'm not sticking around and being
your spots starter while this guy gets himself out of

(31:52):
trouble and serves a possible suspension. So let's back to
their relationship analogy. Though It's like, it's like, you did
everything you could to prove your worth, to show that
you were a good guy, but she left you for
the new person who was not a good person, left
you for the guy she met a cross fit, right,
but who had a bad reputation, And you're like, what, yeah,

(32:16):
but but he's uh, but he's very handsome. Yeah, Deshaun
Watson is as a quote, more attractive quarterback, meaning his
skill set second player, Deshaun Watson is a better NFL
quarter very sexy skill set for sure, but that's not
the only thing you look for in a quarterback. You
look for the intangibles. And I just think Cleveland Browns

(32:37):
fans should part ways with Baker and look at it
as a positive chapter for the Cleveland Browns and anyone
that's like good Rinnings get rid of him. I don't
know what you've been watching the last four years, because
your team was again one and thirty one, leading into
the Baker Mayfield shorter than expected era of football in Cleveland, Right, yes,

(32:58):
no one, Let's let's pick it up in current day.
Boom shipped off, Boom rest in peace. John Madden shipped
off to Carolina. And here's where I want to talk
to you guys, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Are you gonna ask the Fox Sports Nation if he

(33:20):
looks good in Carolina colors? I'm sure he looks very handsome.
I've seen the photoshops. It's been by the way, how
quick are people on the photoshop there? Like this Internet's
undefeated a minute, the trade happens. People are people have
been working on photoshops all night. There's so many questions
and they're all revolving around Cleveland and Carolina. And we'll

(33:40):
get to it all next. Cavino rich and for Dan
Patrick on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, Joel just said we're hot.
Thank you met your mics? Oh my mic oh I
thought my hair was on point. You do look at
today they get handsome. Look at hands Joel's here. Danny
g Ralph and of course Cavino and Rich for Dan
Patrick live in the Mercedes Benz studio Fox Sports Radio.

(34:04):
Normally we're on Fox Sports Sunday, but it's been fun
filling in for Dan Patrick. Thank you guys. Want to
hear from you eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox
because Rich just said off the air that if you
don't agree with him and if you're not rooting for
Baker Mayfield, yeah, I'll just put it this way, because
we're on Fox Sports Radie, you're a terrible person. There
you go, perfect soul. Baker has done nothing but deliver

(34:30):
it to the best of his ability. And the Cleveland
Browns just did the upgrade, were gonna upgrade, and they
took a chance and it could very well be a
poor chance. Well, here on the flip side, and I
agree with everything everything you've said. Everything like Baker Mayfield
did everything he could and he made them a relevant team.

(34:56):
But you can also say that the Browns gave him
a shot. He had a shot, just didn't deliver, just
didn't really deliver in the way that they wanted him
to or expected him too. And you know what, as
far as reputation killer, I feel I feel again just

(35:18):
as a fan, Odell Beckham Junior didn't help his cause.
Oh no, no, no, you know what I mean, because
it made him look like, oh, you know what, not
everyone has his back, Maybe he doesn't have the locker room. Yeah,
it made you speculate, and you gotta remember that. And
I don't want you to sway on your stance. I'm
just saying to factor that into the conversation because you

(35:38):
don't have the answer to sway. Yeah, it looked like, well,
maybe oh b J lost a step, right, but he
was insinuating no, it's not me. And then you saw
him on the rams and you're like, oh, and you
start thinking as a fan, oh maybe it was Mayfield.
You know. So it's like you don't really know everything.

(36:00):
You gotta keep that in mind. But I'm not here
to defend the Browns. But maybe the Browns know and
saw a little something that we as spectators just don't know.
Because I'll tell you what. Odell Beckham Junior definitely looked
like he still had it with the fun times in Cleveland. Again,
Cleveland's right, Rich that if you lose a couple of

(36:21):
DUDO coaches, yeah, you usually get a couple of years,
you know, they give you a little bit more. Yeah,
and he had Stefanski, and under Stefanski they made it
to the AFC Championship Game. And last year with injuries
and some issues, I don't know, I feel like they
they cut bait with Baker a little too quick, but
they got to Shaun Watson. Now let's figure out where

(36:42):
do we go from here? As the question right, So
Baker's on Carolina. Question number one, is he competing with
Sam Darnald or is it Baker Mayfield's job Sam Darnold?
Goofy dude, you thought for a minute last remember matter
Eli Manning's a two time champion, That is true. Does
it get goofier than that guy? Nope, But he didn't remember.

(37:06):
I mean we're talking potential Hall of Famer here. I mean,
he's the goofiest, he's a Goonburger and he and he's
a successful quarterback in the NFL. Okay, so you can't
really factor that in. You know what, I'm gonna sit
back and let you say what you're gonna say, because
I feel like this is where I might disagree with you,
because so far you and I are on the same page.
When Rich and I agree. Fact so Sam Darnold. Yeah,

(37:28):
played for the Jets, and we all know how that
coach for anyone, right, like you can waste away in
the meadowlands. He stunk. But then if you remember, at
the beginning of last year, Sam Darnold came out hot,
which is hard to say for a redhead. Kidding, kidding, dude,
he started out where you were like, oh wow, it

(37:50):
was the Jets, Sam Darnold. Bro the o'doyle's are on
the phone now ready to kick your ass. Oh my god.
Ed Sheeran's on the phone. He's very angry. I want
to start with Dan and Iowa, with Danny j Let's
go there Dan in Iowa. Let let's take your feedback
and then I'll give you my final thoughts on all this.
What's up Dan? Hey, what's up? Guys? The guys are hilarious.

(38:11):
Forget about DP shown he's the best. We're just having fun. Man.
What's up hey, Baker Mayfield. If you want a good
commercial guy, he's awesome. But he should be playing for
my Chicago Bears because he ain't worth it. Dawn, Listen,
I think if the Bears had him, Justin Fields is
still an experiment. We don't know how that's gonna end up, right,

(38:33):
But I think Baker's an upgrade over anyone you've had
over the last decade. But to think of what he's saying.
He's saying, Yeah, he's a great personality. He's all sizzled,
no substance. He's like a fahita. He's like an empty fahita.
That's what he's saying. Coming to the table. Who got
the fahita? Once you get it, you're like, is it
really that good? So we will officially go to Cavino
to interpret. I will tell you what he means by that.

(38:56):
It's the sizzle. You see Baker doing his dance moves,
all the sizzle, all the campaigns, all the commercials, all
the personality, all the sizzle that turns your head. Faha,
he's a fahita. That no, no, no, I'm saying. That's
where he's implying. Right our caller, he's saying, there's wasted
peppers on the plate. No, because you don't happen to
standy what happens Everyone turns their head when that waiter

(39:17):
comes out of the kitchen right with that sialzing hot
for here, what's going on all? And then sometimes they
bring into your plate to your table, and there's like
no meat, and I like, that's a couple of pieces
of chicken. A couple people pay comes teppers and they
give him some like warm tortillas. In other words, war shrimp. Yeah,
in other words, where's the super Bowl? Where's the other
playoff wins? You know, where's that next level that we're

(39:38):
paying for? It's all sizzle and no substance. Had to
start from the bottom, Drake style, you know, came into
a team that was one in thirty one. I'm not
denying it. I'm just playing devil's advocate here based on
what he's and if you're gonna do that Beichano, well
what do you do? What do you do if there's
no meat in your fahita? All right, so let's take

(40:00):
it now to current day. Like I said, he is
now a Carolina Panther. Does he need to compete with
Sam Darnold? Competition is good a guy like Baker, I
feel like thrives in that competition. Chip on his shoulder,
Oh god, I think Baker's probably thinking, I want the competition.
I want to prove everyone that I am the guy

(40:21):
that you thought I was when I was drafted high
a couple of years ago. Look, if he doesn't start
Week one against the Browns. By the way, the Browns
have no sign. What is all this about? Yeah, that's right,
that's what a great schedule right there, right, that's like
must watch TV again. Now, y, this is where I

(40:42):
might disagree with you, though, Rich. I don't think he
just gets that job because he's Baker Mayfield. I really don't.
And I'm a firm believer on this. I'm a firm
believer that you earn your job and may the best
man win. That's true, but no handouts. It's the NFL.
If he's that good, then he earns it. Play. You know.
We'll take all your feedback everyone on the phone, hang tight.
Will check the feedback on Twitter at Covin en Rich

(41:04):
and for Dan Patrick on Fox Sports Radio. More next
