Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is straight out of a gas with the voice
of Biggest Your host r J. Bob paid that me
and his money. You are now about to witness the
strength of street knowledge live from the biggest strip the
pregame show America has always wanted. Here's Bernie Fretto. You
(00:24):
know there are objective truths and personal feelings in this world.
Don't confuse the two. And in a world of questions,
we've got answers. In a world of problems, we've got solutions.
And as I said many times before, sports are the
greatest reality show invented. You can script everything but the outcome.
(00:44):
On that note, I'm Bernie frettawere coming you alive from
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's time tonight
we start to dive into the upcoming NFL season as
we will give a comprehensive, thorough analysis on the quick,
strinks and weaknesses of the a f C teams tonight,
and we'll we'll do it in stages throughout the four
hour showing up as we will take you up to
(01:05):
three in Pacific six am Eastern. By the way, about
fifteen minutes. We'll be joined by our NBA Guru, Mark Medina.
He did take up residence this past week at the
NBA Summer League. We're bringing up to date the latest
on Katie Kyrie. The Lakers were on the home book.
What's interesting. We had Mark on yesterday. I hosted The
(01:26):
Odd Couple with Martin Weiss, and just since then there's
already news Russell Westbrook and his agent and we'll tell you.
You know, Kyrie was actually a no show today. So anyway,
there's always news. And I'm not of the belief that
the Kade deal is done. But we'll bring Mark in
and we'll talk about all the ramifications. By the way,
(01:47):
he did a very good article in the NBA dot
Com two days ago, a Q and A with with
Genie Buss Sports or Entertainment. But there more than that,
they're a shared experience. As such, people want to talk
about them. You come to the right place. We've got
a lot to talk about tonight. This is straight out
of Vegas, the pregame show you always wanted. As they
say in Scott Shapiro, Minnesota, it's gonna be late. You know.
(02:10):
One of the things that happens about this time every
year in July is there's a shift and what I
mean by that is, there's plenty of things always to
bet on having a very good UH British Open tournament.
There was heavy action on tiger Woods. The books cleaned
up on tiger Woods. He didn't make the cut. If
(02:32):
you heard me on with Arnie and Great Oran Burger
Wednesday night, I gave the reasons why the magic is
not healthy. I was told by my moles he walked
fifty eight holes last weekend to try to get ready,
and all the pundit says, oh, he's so familiar with
this course and he knows the backless course and his
guile and wit will get him through it. They were
dead wrong, and I saw right through it. Tigers played
(02:53):
this course five times in his career, five tournaments he has.
He did win in two thousand five. Once before that,
I was seventeen year years ago. One time he didn't
make the cut. The other two times did he even
finish in the top twenty three. What's the moral? He
didn't have an automatic god given right. The fact that
the man's back on the course after the car accident,
back surgery and all the things, that's good enough. People
(03:14):
still wanted to beat him, and they did. They bet
him to make to make the cut, he didn't. He
could have bet him six to one to finish in
the top ten, he didn't, plus two fifty to finish
in the top twenty, he didn't. Circa had a minus
one ten hundred and ten to one check that to win.
The whole thing brought in a lot of action. So
that's what's happening. But the shift I'm alluding to is
(03:36):
that when you get to um, when you get to
a situation where you're in that transition. Now, the Baseball
All Star Games at Dodger Stadium Tuesday, and they'll be
plenty of betting action on that as well as the
Home Run Derby as well. And obviously we just finished
up the NBA Playoffs. The NBA Summer League, there's action,
dribs and drabs. Nothing compares to the NFL. Nothing comes close.
(04:01):
Is the King of Kings, it is. It rules the roost,
and the beauty of it is there are so many
products and we've evolved so much that you know you
don't have to not only do you not have to
bet on a game when I talk about all your
profits and things of that nature, the season doesn't have
to be going yet but we've got teams that will
(04:22):
be in camp starting Wednesday. The Raiders will play in
the All Star or the Hall of Fame Game in Canton,
Ohio on three weeks from Thursday, and so they're gonna
be in camp. So what happens now is you see
more and more products going up on the on the
sports books and one of the hot conversations that has
(04:44):
taken place this last couple of weeks since odds have
come up. Okay, obviously, you've got four teams in each
conference that finished last last year, right Baltimore, Jacksonville, Denver
in the the New York Giants, Alliance, Carolina and see
Battle and as well as the Jets, and uh, I
(05:05):
think I'm leaving somebody out. At the bottom line is
they finished last almost every season in the last twenty
two seasons. I think every season except one or two,
there has been at least one worst to first team
that has managed to defy the odds and no matter
how bad they look last year, they win their division
(05:26):
the following year. There are actually two teams that went
from worst to first. One were the Houston Texans, who
had a pretty good year that year. They were eleven
and five, led by a guy named Deshaun Watson. But
the team that stands out to me and the team
I'll draw a parallel with another franchise. They could do
it here this year are the were the Chicago Bears. Ineen,
(05:50):
here's the here's the parallel. And by the way, you
recall they acquired Khalil Mack right before the season started
from the Raiders and green You know, the Bears went
twelve and four that year in Green Bay win seven
and nine, uh and so or regardless of what Green
Bay's record was, they didn't win the division that year.
Mitch Drabinsky had a heck of a year and the
Bears had first year coach Matt Naggy and he specifically
(06:14):
wanted to work with Mitch Drabinsky and ended up working
pretty well. And the Bears not only had a twelve
and fourth season, made the playoffs. But you recall that
was that infamous playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles whereby
um Cody Park he had the double joint field goal
and missed it. Always Bears would have actually won a
(06:36):
playoff game. So here's the parallel. Now, you gotta hold
your nose, but you can get these guys at eight
to one, and I don't think it's a horrible bat
and you you me be able to hedge back later
in the year, So work with me. Here's where I'm going.
I'm talking about the New York Giants. Could the New
York Giants go from worst to first? They're a bit
of a trendy bet. Remember the NFC East is very weird.
(06:58):
You haven't predated. They have not the the NFC East
has not produced a repeat champions four. Uh, and they're
eight to one. The Giants to do it this year
new first year coaches, like the Barras had in teen
with Matt Nage. They bring in Brian Dable, the New
York Giants bringing Brian Dable of Buffalo Bill's fame, who
(07:18):
had a huge hand in helping to develop Josh Allen.
So Brian Dable as a head coach will be somewhat
tasked with doing the same thing with Daniel Jones. Now
that's a bigger challenge, I believe. But what I do
think Brian Dable is capable of doing very creative offensive
mind He's capable of planning around jones lack of processing
(07:39):
power in the pocket to generate a usable offense. Now,
last year's defense in New York was mostly fine. And
then you add an elite pass rusher, a real talented
guy in Cavon Thibodeaux from Oregon. And then you take
a look at the New York Giants schedule, and this
(08:00):
is where you start to get a little intrigued. Did
you see eight to one? So consider the schedule. The
Giants will get to play games against the Carolina Panthers,
the Chicago Bears, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans,
the Detroit Lions, that's not exactly a murderer's role, and
(08:22):
the Washington Commanders. Now, none of these teams that I
just mentioned have better than sixty to one odds to
get to the super Bowl super Bowl fifty seven. So
you're looking at a team the New York Giants. In theory,
they could win ten games without being a single playoff
(08:42):
team during the way. Now, you gotta hold your nose
before you make this bet. And there are a lot
of unknowns and gotta show me proved me type situations,
but it's there. I guarantee you nobody thought to Houston
Texas a Chicago Bears, two teams would do it in
and every year this seems to happen. Now the other
(09:03):
if the Giants don't do it, and again the eight
to one odds that gives them what a about a
fourteen percent chance? But stranger things have happened. What were
the Cincinnati Bengals odds to get the Super Bowl here
at this point last year? I want to say they
were like six one. Now I'm we're just talking about
the Giants win of the division. I'm not talking about
(09:23):
I'm going to the super Bowl, just one of the division,
the team that really could and I don't think anybody
would argue with this win the division, and yes, they
would go from last to first. Are the Baltimore Ravens
there two to one right now? That's that's that's a
little over fifty percent chance that they're going to do it. Now.
(09:47):
I don't think you're gonna find better value on a
better this nature. And again, this is where you're seeing
the shift. You're seeing NFL money. Come on and next
week we'll have Tony Miller, sports book director from the
Golden Nugget. We'll talk about n af all betting and
things of this nature. In terms of betting in July
when you're still sixty well not sixty days, but not
much less than that from the regular season kickoff. So
(10:10):
there's real value here where you could absolutely see Baltimore
winning their division if things break just a little better
than they did last year. Okay, and I know what
people are saying, Well, you've left out the Denver Broncos.
No I haven't. I just think that I think the
Baltimore Ravens are the favorite. Brent Denver's got a much
different path and how much of a difference can Russell
(10:33):
Wilson make? And you know about the gauntlet in that
division with the Chargers and the Chiefs. Is that Chiefs
thing to overcome to me is a real hurdle. I
think Kansas seems to be very good. I don't think
the loss of Tyreek Kill is going to hurt them
nearly as much as people think. But I digress. Here's
the situation I don't believe I've seen in the last
twenty years. Is stronger worse the first case than um
(10:59):
then the Baltimore Ravens are this year. So even though
they finished the Ravens finished last in the f C
North uh there were only two games back at Cincinnati.
And if you if you consider what happened to Baltimore
last year, not John Harball. It's one of those guys
that really likes to win in the preseason, and you
(11:21):
know what, sometimes that comes with the price, doesn't it.
Um The Ravens lost their two top running backs in
the preseason before the regular season even started. That's the
department of redundancy department. As the season started, they lost
both their starting quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson was five games. Suffice
me to say they were not healthy at all. If healthy,
(11:42):
the Ravens have a great chance to bounce back. Lamar
Jackson should be healthy again. I believe the Ravens had
a very good draft. I am will believe in their defense,
even after Baltimore traded Hollywood Brown. Frankly, I think this
is the team to beat in the f C North.
We still don't know what's going on with Cleveland and
Deshaun Watson. Pittsburgh is really sort of starting over, although
(12:04):
I expect them to be more competitive. And Cincinnati it's
tough to repeat. They're gonna have a target on their back,
although they're gonna be awfully good again. I love Borow.
They've upgraded their offensive line. But the Ravens have a culture. Uh.
The Ravens have a DNA that UH last places is
not in their DNA, And like I said, it's not
really that dramatic of a turnaround when you consider all
(12:25):
the injuries they had last year. And finally, remember, even
though the Ravens finished last in the FC North, there
were two games behind the Cincinnati Bengals. So there you
have the Ravens two to one. There's your there's your
water cooler talk this week in Las Vegas having to
do with worst to first and some of the new
rage in terms of what people are betting on. But
(12:48):
keep an eye on the New York Giants. I haven't
put any money on him yet, and I think you
gotta hold your nose. But it's not out of the
realm of possibility. For the reasons I just gave that
the New York Giants could could very much be in
the hunt to UH to win that division. I don't.
I just don't have faith in the Cowboys and Mike McCarthy.
I told you I respect McCarthy, but when I see him,
(13:11):
I see Barney Rubble. I don't see I just see confusion.
When it matters most every single time. He always got
that look on us face like he's wandering around the
mall forgot where he parked his car. Dallas has a
lot of talent, and I think there's a lot of
pressure on Dark Prescott. This upcoming in NFL season is
going to be at it all right, That's what we're
talking about here in Vegas. Coming up, a gentleman who's
(13:33):
been a fixture on the network. Uh. And there's always
news to report because the NBA is just the most
fluid league going right now when you consider individual trades.
Free agency is raging, teams try to build their roster,
and even the Drew League is in the news tonight.
I'm talking about Mark Madinia Hill. Join us coming up.

The pregame show you always wanted on Bernie Frio Comedy
Live to the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios at
this time was welcome and gentlemen, you recognize him on
(14:56):
these air waves often. NBA writer for NBA a dot
Com wrote a great piece Q and A with Jeanie
Bust couple of days ago. We'll get to that in
just a minute. But market never fails. This is a
twenty four hour news cycle. First, Russell Westbrook parts company
with his agent, talk about what ramifications that might mean
(15:16):
for the Lakers going forward. Just another twist on this
ongoing saga. Basically, when you read between the lines, Russell
Westbrook station was uh mentioned two things, one wishing him well, YadA, YadA, YadA.
But the second thing was that he was saying that
he was advising Russell Westbrook that is in his best
interest to want to stay with the Lakers, try to
(15:38):
rectify you know, last season's performance, buy into Darvenham And basically, uh,
it doesn't sound like that's what Russell Westbrook wants. Where
you know, ideally he wants to be gone with the Lakers,
and look, the Lakers would love that too, but they've
struggled finding a trade partner for that. But if he
winds up getting traded, the danger that Russell Westbrook faces
(16:01):
is that that team might want to negotiate a buyout
with his contract and it's not going to be anywhere
near that forty seven million that he's guaranteed to get
with the Lakers. So even if that frees him up
to go to a team of his choosing, the reality
is the market for Russ has dropped so substantially that
there might not really be any suitors, even at a
(16:22):
discounted rate. So yeah, interesting times in t's always in
the NBA where it has it And I'm not joking
about this, Russell Westbrook was spotted at Disneyland today and
riding the teacuffs not joking. Well, what would be surprising.
It's kind of living in a fantasy world, right, yeah,
(16:42):
I'm nicely done, nicely done. Um all right, the other
Laker drama factory. I know it's against a lot of
practice psychology without a license, but it would seem to
me that by Kyrie Irvy not showing up today for
the Drew League, it's a bit of a slap in
the face to Lebron. Does that indicate to you that
(17:05):
when push comes to show, the Lakers and Nets will
not end up being dance partners. No, I don't know
if it represents that, but it does represent Kyrie Irving's
overall flakiness. I mean, look for my understanding, he was
at a camp hosted by Phil Handy, who's one of
the assistant coaches with the Lakers, and he and Kyrie
go you know, have some history because Phil he used
(17:29):
to work with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The the reality is,
you know, Smiley, the Drew League commissioner, he would hold
from Kyrie's reps that he would be committed to play
a game today, that's right, So he went on record
first to ESPN Dave mcmondhaman and then to me saying, hey,
Kyrie is gonna play. And then when I got there
today he was a no show. I would check in
(17:49):
with you know, hey, any updated when he's coming. I'm
not sure. And then when I talked with him afterwards,
he said, I don't know. You know, they're pretty sure
he was coming and that's his apps and he said,
but you know how Kyrie is. I guess he should
change his mind in the middle of it. And look,
I know it's Twitter, but whatever. Like I'm not afraid
to call out a space of space. There's some idiots
(18:10):
that are defending Kyrie saying, well, why would you, you know,
run with the story that Kyrie is going to come
to DRULEI when his reps are saying that that's not true.
This is Dino Smiley, the dru Lee commissioner, saying on record, yes,
I've been told that Kyrie is committed. So this is
clearly his way of flaking out. So I don't know
(18:32):
if it really means anything and the grand scheme of
things as far as the Lakers go, but it's basically
on part with what he has been this entire season.
You never know when he's going to be available, and
he's always flaky, which is why I brought it up. Mark,
the two are mutually exclusive. I believe you're Polanka, you're
Genie Buss, You're Lebron James. You're looking at this and say, Okay,
(18:52):
it's a preview of what we want to do with
this year. Do we really want to try to meet
the nets? You know, to first round draft toss in
Russell Westbrook and me. No. I think they're looking at
this now. It's a guess. So you're right any at
the end of the day. But what all this merely
was was for further underscoring the fact that this is
(19:13):
who Kyrie is. He just doesn't escape his nature. Speaking
of the Lakers, you wrote a great piece Thursday at
Q and A with Genie Buss. You made a lot
of things, uh, a lot of statements, definitive statements. What
was your biggest takeaway? What was this subtext about what
Genie busts the message he was really trying to stend.
I think that you know she was willing to entertain
all the elephants in the room, and that you know
(19:35):
she gave her version of events without any apologies. I mean,
I think the main things are this, um. She maintained
that her tweet about Kobe Bryant was not a subliminal
shot at Lebron James. She was adamant that, uh, you know,
Lebron and Clutch Sports aren't always pulling the strings they
have relationships, but she said, at the end of the day,
(19:55):
the Lakers do what's best for them. I thought it
was how going that she deferred questions to Rob Polinka
about what's Lebron's feelings about an extension when he's eligible
this August. She said that I can't speak about it
yet because she's not eligible there. Um. And then I
think the other things is that she still maintained support
(20:18):
for the Lakers front office and that she was very
adamant and unapologetic with the fact that she leans on
so many voices with Phil Jackson, Magic Johnson's unofficial advisors,
Linda Rambis, who's an advisor with the Lakers, and the
vast operations structure where it's Rob Polinka making the final decision,
as well as Kurt Rambis and Jesse and Joey Boss
(20:39):
having a voice in the room. And she made it
clear to me that she feels like it's very important
to have a lot of collaborative feedback among other people.
When I brought up the fact that there's a concern
of having too many cooks in the kitchen, she was
really leeing the fact that her father taught her about
the importance of not you know, having in this obsession
(21:01):
with having absolute power, and if you have that, this
collaborative work culture, you're able to get more results. At
the end of the day, there are only two years
removed from winning the title, so there is a winning formula.
But uh, there's a lot of, you know, things that
have not gone well. And when I pointed out that
there's been a lot of people, including myself, who have
(21:21):
looked at last season is not just a reflection of injuries,
but roster construction, with getting Russell Westbrook, the amount of
depth they gave to get him and having a veteran
laden roster um. You know, she conceded that those decisions
didn't work out, but she also thought that the end
of the day, the injuries were a bigger factor, most
(21:42):
notably than Anthony and Davis. So as of now, you know,
she's still having a lot of faith in the front office. Uh,
partly because they got Darvin Ham as a head coach
and partly because of their history. But she made it
clear of that she's not afraid to make changes. It's
her expectation and that they're going to at least make
the playoffs. And when I asked, hey, does this means
(22:03):
West Final, second round, she didn't commit, but she made
the point to me, look like to get back to
the championship level, you have to at least be invited
back to the dance, and they weren't invited last season.
I saw that quote and my quick takeaway was that
there's gonna be a little bit more accountability this year,
and that the Lakers are there are a franchise of
(22:24):
eras and that this era is not going as well
as they would have. Al final question for you, DeAndre Ayton,
you know, gets his offer sheet matched by the Phoenix Suns.
I still don't think that Katie sweep stakes are dead.
I know Brooklyn is definitely afraid of settling for pennies
on the dollar. That won't happen. I think at some
(22:46):
point there's going to be a deal. Your thoughts, well,
there could be, but I think that DeAndre and trade
is significant for two reasons. One, Uh, there's no sign
and trade deal to be had with Indiana because you
know that you can't do that from the league standpoint.
But now that this son's matched DeAndre Aden's restricted free
(23:10):
agency offer from Indiana, they can't trade him until January.
So I think in that respect it is significant. Of
maybe they are out in the running because it's the
Nets hopes that they can find a really suitable partner
for the offseason. That being said, to your point, I
think you know from my impression talking to different coaches
(23:33):
and executives when I was in Vegas four Summer League, Uh,
there's this I think increased thought that the Nets might
just settle on. You know what, We're going to keep
Kevin Durant and maybe even Kyrie Irving the open training
camp because we're not finding the right trading Partnersami Toronto
(23:53):
or Miami. They're not dead, are they? They're not dead,
But I would I would give the handicap to Toronto.
I think in Miami they do have some draft picks.
But you know, I think that Brooklyn they can't keep
am out of Bido aut of Bio because of the
salary Capitals, but they're gonna want someone like Jimmy Butler
and Kyle Lowry, and you know, the Heat aren't going
to give that up. They do have draft picks and
(24:14):
role players, but that's not enough for Kevin Durant. The
reality is he's such an amazing star right now, and
the Rudy Golbert trade has even spiked up the expectations
because of what the assets the Jazz were able to get.
That that's it's it is this catch twenty two. So
to answer your question, there is a scenario that you know,
both Durant in Kyrie or on the Nets next season,
(24:37):
and then maybe that opens up the possibility for the
Sun's to become a negotiating partner again because maybe this
is a pre trade deadline trade as opposed to you know,
opening the season. Mark great stuff is always. I'm sure
before too long we'll be talking in the NBA news cycle.
Never never, never stops, my friends, looking forward to chatting soon.
(24:59):
All right, thanks, it's Arc Medina NBA dot com. You
hear him all around these air waves. And uh. After
the summer league to draft, things probably cool off a bit,
but not too much because free agency will rage for
a few more weeks, and I think people want to
see what happens with Kde Kyrie and the likely. Hey,
before you know it, teams will be back in training
camp in October will be here and the NBA will
(25:20):
be back, coming up and bring it back out to
Vegas back and I'm sports. We talked more NFL because
there's always an NFL Vegas market update on wind totals
and who are the markets responding to negatively and positively. Yes,
more NFL betting it is here, but first let's call
to Kevin Figures with the latest. Alright, Kevin, I'm good, Bernie,
(25:41):
good to work with you as always. All Right, we'll
start looking at some baseballs to pin ultimate slate of
games before the break. The final day is on Sunday.
Multiple stars showed out on Saturday night. Trade Turner is
one of them to home runs for the Dodgers, leading
them to a seven to one victory over the Angels.
Freddie Freeman also went deep for l A, as did
Max Munsey at three run home run. All Star Peter
Alonso drove in three runs for the Mets in a
(26:02):
day night doubleheader sweep over the Cubs. Aaron Judge and
Mark Matt Carpenter, each hitting two home runs for the Yankees.
They're all over the Red Sox fourteen to want Aaron
Judge home runs number thirty two and thirty three, homeworn
number twenty nine for Kyle Schwarber, and they'd send nothing.
Phillies victory over Miami, Justin Verlander picking up his major
league best twelfth victory and lowered his e r A
to one point eight nine as Houston defeated Oakland five.
(26:26):
Nothing went for the Padres, Guardians and the Mariners, who
beat Texas to notch their thirteenth consecutive victory. And golf,
the final round of the Open Championship will again in
a matter of moments. Roy McElroy and Victor Hobland are
tied for the lead at sixteen under. They will see
you off just before ten am Eastern one Sunday Factor
straight out of Vegas. All right, Kevin, good to be
with you, buddy. Likewise, all right, springing back on to Vegas.
(26:47):
If you've heard the opening of the show, I talked
a lot about NFL betting, futures, betting who who might
be likely to go from worst to first? But it's
not just that wind totals are a big here, a
big thing here in Vegua, and the teams that the
market has been buying while there are three or four
of them, and there's been a couple of teams that
the market have been selling. Mackenzie, what do you got
(27:08):
for us? Yes? And it's actually shock and going through
these numbers. The Vegas win totals coming out earlier and earlier,
which is great for us. More data came out in
April this year. A multiple book wind total opening came
out in April. And this consistency between what teams are
being upgraded and what teams are being downgraded is shocking.
So here are the teams that Vegas loves the most.
(27:30):
Since April, they've been betting them. Their numbers have been
going up. The Philadelphia Eagles, the Detroit Lions, and the
New Orleans Saints. Now think in your mind's eye, what
do those teams have in common? While I tell you
the teams that Vegas hates the most. Since April, they've
been downgraded. They've been expected to win a half game
or more. Number one will we're throwing out the Browns
(27:51):
by the way, they've been downgraded. We know about that
number one. Most downgraded teams Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys also downgraded.
Tennessee Titans also downgraded. All three of those teams lost
traded away had to give up a key wide receiver.
And then let's go back to the most upgraded teams.
The Saints added Jarvis Landry, five time Pro Bowler J
(28:14):
Lyon's second most upgraded team added DJ Chark and the
Philadelphia Eagles flying away with this award. The Vegas darling
of the off season upgraded almost a win and a
half since April. How much they're expected to win. They
had the key offseason transition much bigger than any remove
so far. That would be adding a J. Brown. So
(28:35):
the Vegas market is responding to the money market that
we've seen because over the past three years, the top
five wide receiver salaries have jumped up six way higher
than any other position. It's a new day in the NFL.
You see, I mean, how long ago was it where
we never saw a key wide receiver win the Super Bowl?
Now every year Cooper Cup number one example, m v P.
(28:57):
It's a different NFL wide receiver, maybe not quite as quarterback,
but second place in the position. Wide receiver is king
more than ever. Well, that's certainly true because of the
rule changes. It's now become basketball on turf, and it's
all about getting your athletes out in space. And you
know the fact that defensive backs can't make the anywhere
(29:19):
near the kind of contact they've been able to make
in the past, it doesn't surprise me that much, although
I do think it's a little bit of fools gold to,
you know, bank on your team's hopes for improving based
on a wide receiver. And I have good reason for
saying this. Calvin Johnson one of the greatest rechievers ever
played the game, and I remember when he got to Detroit.
Is the first overall pick in two thousand seven for
(29:41):
for the Lions, or actually Capital was the first overall pick,
but he was the first overall pick for the Lions.
Never really made a difference in ever Wona won a
playoff game. I'm a little intrigued by Philadelphia. I understand
why teams are backing Baltimore, and I understand why teams
are fading Dallas. I'm gonna talk about that towards the
end of the show. Uh the Philly McKenzie. Here's the
(30:03):
saying that the Philly number at eight and a half,
it's probably where it should have been. What throws me
is it's over nine and a half now and it's
minus one Canna receiver. Really move on a win total
of full game and a half? No, I mean, basic
strategy says Vegas gives about a point per game for
(30:23):
the best wide receivers in the league. Extrapolate that over
seventeen game season, seventeen points. It's about a half win.
If you're being optimistic and you think a J. Brown
is all that in a bag of potato chips. The
question is your first point was how about Hurt? It's
exactly right? Was eight and a half correct? Well, the
answer to that question is is Dalen Hurts the twenty
(30:46):
six the best quarterback in the league, which is what
his analytics said last year, or is he a twenty
three year old that's about to blow up like we've
seen Lamar Jackson in the second year as a starter.
Have we've seen some of these other guys? I don't
think I've seen enough from Jalen Hurts to get me
off at eight and a half what we expected, you know,
three months ago, adding another wide receiver is great. Having
all five of your offensive linemen coming back is great.
(31:08):
But I'm with you. I think this number is kind
of out of control, and let's just put it in
a historical perspective. I got a database here since every
Vegas win total when it opened, where it closed, and
if the season started today, that Philadelphia Eagles would be
the second most upgraded team in the Vegas offseason of
this entire half decade. The only team more upgraded, you
(31:29):
might remember last year was the Denver Broncos when everyone
thought they were gonna get Aaron Rodgers, and then even
when they didn't, people were convinced they were gonna win
nine games. Well, how that turnout. It didn't turn out
well for all those late to the game backers of
the Broncos, the only won seven. No matter when you
bet it. Even though that number went up, up, up,
it went under. Historically, teams that get their win total
moved a half game or more, only forty percent of
(31:52):
the time goes over. So as impressed as you might
be from Howard Roseman's offseason and everyone gives them the
number a grade, I think the Vegas market is a
little bit ahead of their shoes. I would never look
at the nine and a half over. It's under a
pass for me with the Eagles, and you get plus
money like you said on the under nine and a half.
All right, so I'm gonna talk about this in a
(32:13):
minute here, but I'm fading the Dallas Cowboys. They're over
under is ten and a half. There's also an alternate
line over under nine and a half. If you're willing
to play the under, you get plus one sixty. Very
tempting to me. You glossed over the Cowboys. I know
the reasons I have for wanting to fade them, which
(32:34):
I'm gonna get to a little later. Give me some
of your reasons because they did make your list. I
think you kind of glossed over it. As to one
of the teams, the part the market is selling. Yes,
And let's go back to how good the Max paid
Dak Prescott is. It's another question. I think if you
look at how when he's been successful and when he's not,
it's because Mark Smooth R. Smith has been out there
(32:55):
and they had a great offensive line, as Eco Elliott
has been at his peak. None of those things are
true anymore. The offensive line isn't that great, Amari Cooper
is not going to be there, and his equal, Illiott
seems to be a year two past his prime. So
I think Dak prescotts get a lot of hype from
his numbers early in the season. I don't think he's
that guy. I kind of agree with you, Cowboys under
ten and a half, if you can get it, is
a good bat interesting. So in a roundabout way, you're
(33:19):
you're short of implying, and you're not alone that Dak Prescott.
He's been paid, He's got a lot of pressure on
his shoulders. When he gets to this point, this juncture,
when he gets hot, it's hard to breathe. He hasn't
exactly been stellar. No, he was recently placed in the
top ten quarterback list. The head of a guy's like
Kirk cousin Lamar Jackson. I think he's gonna get caught
up to this year. I don't think he's quite as
(33:40):
good as a guy like Lamar Jackson. No, I'm in
complete agreement with that. I'll talk about Labarne Jackson later
in the show of this year, but man thirty seven
and twelve, world class talent. He completely stabilized the Baltimore ratings.
All right, thanks a lot, Mackenzie, appreciate your Bernie. All right,
thank you. Coming up, there are two teams that have
gotten the better't attention here in Las Vegas in a
(34:02):
big way. The Dallas Cowboys and the markets are going
one way on them, and the Green Bay Packers, who've
been giving a lot of shade and the markets going
one way on them. I'll break down both for you
and give you my very strong opinions on how I
think those two teams fair heading into the twenty two
season My Bernie Fraderer Comedy A live from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Studios. This is the pregame show
(34:23):
you always wanted, So don't go away. You're listening to
Straight out of Vegas, one of the best in the business,

the pregame show you always wanted. I Bernie Fratto come

Before I go any further, I want to thank my
broadcast team back in Los Angeles, both Benson Christ Perfett
(34:44):
and Kevin Figure is joining us tonight on the updates.
Still be with me all the way to three M
Pacific six cm eastern, and so will you, because we're
just getting started. The NFL talk continues because it is
that time. Yes, teams will be in camp Wednesday, the
Oakland Hulklin look at me. The Las Vegas Raiders will
(35:04):
be in camp Wednesday because they got a game three
weeks from Thursday, the Hall of Fame Game. There'll actually
be some rookie camps opening as soon as Monday. So
let the top begin, let the water cooler arguments begin.
And two teams that are very public teams that are
very much marquee teams in the history of the NFL,
the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers, and the
(35:29):
general group think echo chamber has been that the Cowboys
are in for a good year, but not among the
sharp folks in Vegas that I talked to, they feel
the opposite, and the Echo chay, the echo Chamber group
think the crowd is is believing that the Green Bay Packers.
They're throwing shade at the Packers. Well, gosh, they lost,
(35:49):
they lost DeVante Adams, so they must suck right by
the way. You know, I think I'm gonna do. I'm
gonna start with the Packers because folks are pounding the
over for said I trust are pounding the over of eleven,
meaning to track the Packers should loot. You know, win
twelve games, go twelve and five. That's all I gotta
do to cash at bet once they win their eleventh game.
(36:12):
That's a three year old. The only way you can
lose that bet is for Green Bay to go ten
and seven. Do you really think Green Bay I lose
seven games this year because they lost Davante Adams. You know,
you may I know this is maybe only a quasi
comparison in not really a definitive factoid that's going to
(36:32):
cause you to tear your hair out. But this is
a real This is a real staff though without Davante Adams,
and games Aaron Rodgers played without Davante Adams, he was
seven and oh. He threw nineteen touchdowns of one interception,
the average thirty one point six a game. The Packers
average thirty one point six a game when Davante Adams
(36:53):
didn't play. That's no shade on Davante Adams. That's that's
what a Hall of Fame quarterback the US green Bay
his minus to win the NFC North. I don't see
barring injury anything could happen. I told you about the
team Bears a minute ago. That case had about a
sixty chance. I like those odds. I don't think the
(37:14):
Bears are going to compete this year. And we're gonna
get into the previews later in the show, the strengths
and weaknesses. Actually, we'll do the NFC maybe next week.
We'll see, maybe we'll get to it this week. The
Lions are rebuilding. I really like what Dan Campbell's done.
I like how they drafted. Does that mean they make
the quantum leak to win the division? Not as long
as Aaron Rodgers is there, But I do look for
the lines to be very competitive. I don't know about
(37:36):
the Bears, and that leaves the Vikings. The Vikings are
an enigma, and I think they were dealt a bad
rap last year. Remember they lost three games by last
second missfield goals and they were their own worst ending
me they had the Rams beat they the Vikings played
just well enough to lose. It's very maddening for Vikings fans.
And Kirk Cousins continues to be a very accurate pastor.
He's got great Yogi Bear statistics. It's just when it
(37:59):
doesn't matter, and you're asking me, okay, what's Yogi Barris?
And I'll tell what Yogi Barriss that is. You know,
Yogi once went four for four against the Boston Red Sox.
Picks up the newspaper the next day in the New
York Times in the box Corse that he went three
for four. Yogi got Matt true story, called the sports
editor and said, what are you doing? Man? I went
four for four yesterday? The editor said, relaxed, Yogi, it
(38:20):
was a typographical error, you like? He said, what do
you mean? It was a clean single up the middle.
So you can tell me all about Kirk cussin stats,
but how about get to the playoffs? Who win a
playoff game every now and then? You gotta put the
team on your back. Rogers has done that. He don't
want have to do it as much as year. Green
based defense is very good. They drafted Will They got
two first round studs out of Georgia. We're talking about
(38:41):
a guy who's a back to back m v P.
But interestingly enough, again more Shade only two percent of
the tickets, one percent of the money. In terms of
who will win the NFL m v P this year.
He's on the aforementioned Aaron Rodgers. By the way, that
I mentioned in his career, Aaron Rodgers is fifty five
and twenty one against the NFL NFC North. Yeah, Green
(39:04):
Bay is gonna be just fine. Dallas not so sure. Yes,
they were twelve and five last year, but the only
beat two playoff teams. Both of them were Philadelphia the worst.
Well that's not fair, the weakest playoff team in the field. Meanwhile,
Cowboys lost to Tampa, they lost in Kansas City, they
lost to the Raiders, they lost to Arizona. They were
tuned four against playoff teams. Their defense ranked inponent's yards
(39:27):
per play. That matters, and the Cowboys lost Randy Gregory. Finally,
Dallas was number one last year and turnover differential in
their defense that coordinates two wins. Yes, they were twelve
and five, but teams don't typically do that two years
in a row. That's a tough act to follow. I
don't think Alice can keep that up this year. What
(39:47):
goes up must come down. So here's the bottom line.
The old underwins for the Cowboys ten and a half.
People that I trust, people that I know they're betting
the under. You get plus money on the under. It's
minus one forty five for the over. If you really
want to get saucy, you think the Cowboys are gonna
win less than nine and a half games. It's plus
(40:08):
one sixty to win the NFC East. They're basically leaving money.
Dallas plus one one fifteen to win the NFC there
eight to one, the Super Bowl there eighteen to one.
Do you want to bet them to have the best
regular season record ten to one? You might as well
let your money on fire. At least it will keep
you one. It's not gonna happen. Dak Prescott sixteen to
one to win the m v P. Dallas will get
none of my money except for maybe Week one. There
(40:30):
are three and there are three point home dog against
Tampa Bay. By the way, Tom Brady is only eight
nine and two against the spread opening week Week one
in the NFL. So there you have it, Cowboys fade
Green Bay back. I can't wait for the NFL, and
neither can do. Teams are in camp. That's gonna do
it for straight out of Eggas, but don't go anywhere.
We'll take Capter three M Pacific, six M Eastern. I'm
