I'm excited. We're going to start off with some news
and then we're going on a trip together. So pack
your suitcase. We're going to go to South America and

the country of Brazil. First, some news actress Jennifer Aniston
was recently asked if she's ever had a reading with
a medium. Here's what she said.

So the answer to that question for me is yes,
I have. I spoke to a medium about four years ago.
We were so many, so much was coming through, so
much was coming through. But she said this one thing,
a bunch of things that blew my mind, but this
one was really incredible. She said, your mom could never
compete with her first husband's dance hers. So my mom's

first husband, my brother's father was like a big band leader,
and he always was having these affairs with women, and
my mom was always sort of.

You know, just quiet and meek.

And then she said, but he also wanted her to
know that he never recovered from the death of his sister,
who died in a plane crash.

Something that's so specific.

So I called my brother and I said, I also
didn't know his father had a sister.

That was the other thing.

So I said to my brother, Johnny, did your father
have a sister who died? So I don't say plane crash,
I don't say anything, and then he goes, oh, yeah,
Aunt Jane, Aunt Jane, she died in a plane crash.
Excuse me, oh aunt Jane, Yes, she died in a

plane crash. Charl's now even repeating the story.

I love that story. When you go to a medium,
you need to hear evidence to believe that your loved
one lives on. But when you get evidence that you
don't even know is the truth, and you have to
go ask somebody else. Those kind of stories I never
get tired of hearing. Next. In June twenty twenty three,

Grammy Award winner Madonna was reportedly intubated after being found unresponsive.
Now she's opening up that she had a near death experience.
She was rushed to a New York City hospital after
developing a bacterial infection. She said the whole experience was
(03:43):
very scary and was put into an induced coma. She
says when she woke up, the first word she said
was no. In her experience, God was asking her, do
you want to come with us, and Madonna, knowing that
her job on Earth was not yet complete, repeated to God, No,
(04:05):
No No. Next, twenty eight year old medium Tyler Henry,
star of the Netflix series Life After Death and E
Entertainment's mega hit television show Hollywood Medium, has opened up
that the process of airing celebrity interviews is not very easy.
(04:27):
It's common when doing a reading that a publicist jumps
in and says, no, no, no, we're not using that.
He says, so much of the evidence that comes through
is of a personal nature. Some of the details never
appear on screen. He enjoys doing celebrity readings, but says
it's really bad for medium who's trying to provide information

that isn't found on Google, and it would be nice
for the celebrities to open up a little more about
their personal lives. He continues that reading everyday folks carries
much less baggage, and that's truly where his heart is.
Tyler says many celebrities still come to him for readings,

but for me, he says, most of my readings are
done for free, and a lot of those readings are
done for terminally ill people. They are my VIPs, and
those situations allow me to provide comfort for people who
are going to be making their transition. I've met with
children before they have passed, as well as their parents.

It allows me to really kind of satisfy why I
do what I do in a much bigger way. Kudos
to Tyler Henry and any others that are giving back next.
Eighty one year old retired comedian, actor and musician Sir
Billy Connelly has admitted to previously offending most religions with

his comedy, but he has now confessed that he can't
accept that death will be the end of him. Connolly,
who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and prostate cancer in
twenty thirteen, said while he's not scared of death, he
does resent the idea of his life coming to an end.
I do feel cheated in a way, but it hasn't
(06:19):
happened yet, So how can I feel cheated? And who knows?
It might be so lovely on the other side that
you don't even think about that. I'm sure there's something
after death. I'm sure there is, asked why, he added,
I don't know, but in recent years I've just got
a knowing that there is. Although Parkinson's has severely slowed
(06:44):
down Connolly's physical abilities, he has not lost his sense
of humor and humor I hope is the last thing
to go next. You may remember the film The Perfect Storm,
which told the story of the boat the Gale, a
commercial fishing vessel that was lost at sea, with all

lives being lost in the Perfect Storm of nineteen ninety one.
The film starred George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane and
Moore and was one of the highest grossing films in
the year two thousand. Now, the author of the book
The Perfect Storm, Sebastian Younger, has a new book telling
(07:28):
his story about what might happen after death. His new
book is titled In My Time of Dying, How I
Came face to face with the idea of an afterlife.
For years as an award winning reporter, Sebastian traveled to
many front lines and frequently put his life at risk,
and yet the closest he ever came to death was
(07:51):
the summer of twenty twenty, while spending a quiet afternoon
at his New England home that he shared with his
wife and two young children. Crippled by abdominal pain, Younger
was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Once there, he
began to slip away as the blackness set in. He
was visited by his dead father, inviting him to join him.

It's okay, his father said, there's nothing to be scared of.
I'll take care of you. That's the last thing Younger
remembered until he was aware again and was told he
suffered a ruptured aneurism and that he shouldn't have survived.
This experience spurred Younger, a confirmed atheist raised by his

physicist father, to respect the empirical, to undertake a scientific, philosophical,
and deeply personal examination of mortality and what happens after
we die. How do we begin to process the brutal
fact that any of us might perish unexpectedly on what
begins as an ordinary day, he says, How do we
(08:57):
grapple with phenomena that's science may be unable to explain,
and what happens to a person emotionally and spiritually when
forced to reckon with such existential questions. His brand new book,
In My Time of Dying is part medical drama, part autobiography,

and part inquiry into the mystery of life after death.

some trivia that you may not know. Famous inventor Thomas Edison,
who created some things we can't live without, like the
electric light bulb and electric light motion pictures, first to

invent the phonograph in eighteen seventy seven. In fact, the
first record he ever created was his own voice reciting
the nursery rhyme Mary had a little lamb. I bet
you didn't know that. In nineteen twenty, he announced plans
to capture a different kind of voice, one that belonged
to those no longer living, specifically a spirit phone capable

of talking to the dead. Mark Hartzman, who is a
historian and the author of Chasing Ghosts, A Tour of
our fascination with spirits and the supernatural, said, aside from
the life changing feat of breaking through the Veil, I
believe Edison's interest in spiritualism was simply to demonstrate that science,

not mediums and Ouiji boards, was the way to do it.
In fact, in nineteen twenty, Thomas Edison told American magazine
that the methods and apparatus commonly used and discussed are
just a lot of unscientific nonsense. Some believed Edison's supposed
(11:12):
belief in communicating with the dead was a joke or
a chance to make headlines and capitalize on spiritualism's popularity.
But at the same time, Edison had an unusual hypothesis
regarding what happens after humans die. The inventor spoke of
his belief in the idea of units in a nutshell,
(11:37):
one hundred trillion of them make up a human being
and keep us functioning. When we die, the life units
move on to someone else. That's another way of saying
our energy cannot be destroyed. It's now over one hundred
years since Edison was designing this machine to record spirit voices,

and although spirit communication is not yet in every household
using technology, there's plenty of people using technology to record
voices and images of the afterlife. During the break, I'm

about three mediums who have done extraordinary things to connect

I want you to imagine growing up in a country
where believing in the afterlife is normal in most of
the world. If a little child talks about seeing Grandma
or Grandpa or somebody else in the afterlife, normally they
call them their imaginary friends, and the kids aren't taken seriously.

Could you imagine encouraging children to talk more about the
people they are seeing and encourage spiritual development. Back on
episode fifty three, we spoke to Nikola Farmer, who works
with young children with the belief that we are all
born naturally psychic. These young children are able to do
(14:52):
extraordinary things while blindfolded. They are able to see using
the power of their minds. They can read books, play
catch with a ball, even do arts and crafts, all
with no vision. Earlier, I told you to pack your
bags because today we are venturing to the country of Brazil,
(15:16):
known for the Amazon River, the rainforest, Rio di Jannio's carnival,
their love for football, food, gorgeous beaches, colorful cities, samba music,
and where people grow up believing in the afterlife. I
first learned of the religion or belief in spiritism, when
(15:38):
my mom and I owned our thirty year catering business
working with race car teams. When my book We Don't Die,
a skeptics discovery of life after Death came out twenty twelve,
Brazilian race car driver Champion Oznegri told me about his
country's belief in the afterlife. He gave me some websites
(16:01):
to research and told me that most people grow up
believing in life after death. Today, I want to share
the amazing works of three Brazilian afterlife pioneers who have
done some incredible things. But first I'd like to tell
you about Spiritism. The Spiritist movement began in nineteenth century
(16:24):
France with the writings of Hippolyte Revail under the pseudonym
Alan Cardick. In his most famous work, The Spirit's Book,
Cardick codified the philosophy that would later sweep the world
as the Spiritist movement. While this book and others written
by Cardik and his followers provide detailed descriptions of spiritist principles,
(16:51):
what appears to be most essential to the movement is
the belief that a spirit exists within each human body.
They believe the spirit reincarnates into an afterlife body, progressing
towards spiritual perfection. Spiritists also believe in the existence of
(17:13):
other life forms in the universe, God as the supreme intelligence,
and an afterlife that is physically close to planet Earth.
They believe when we pass, we go to a colony
of souls that float over the Earth. Spiritism took root
in Brazil with the help of Chico Javier, which I
(17:35):
would normally pronounce Chico Xavier. He was born in nineteen
ten and died in two thousand and two, one of
Brazil's most famous celebrity mediums. We'll be discussing more shortly.
Mediums are a critical aspect of spiritism. They can communicate
with spirits of the afterlife through seances or other means. Javier,
(17:58):
for instance, was renowned for his ability to write letters
from the dead to their loved ones. Six of these
letters were actually used as legitimate evidence in murder trials.
The charisma and popularity of Javier contributed to the explosion
of spiritism in Brazil. Today, Brazil is the most spiritist
(18:24):
country in the world, with over six million believers. Spiritism
is the third largest religious group after Catholics and Evangelicals.
Another twenty million people call themselves spiritist sympathizers, meaning they
still belong to their Catholic or Evangelical church, but they
(18:45):
also believe in spiritism. In the city of Palmelo, for example,
one in every seven people is a medium. Most spiritists
are highly educated, middle to upper class, over ninety eight
percent are literate. This can be attributed to the fact
that spiritism demands intense personal study and research to be
(19:09):
truly understood, as well as a common sentiment that Spiritism
is more refined than traditional Catholicism and spiritism does not
necessarily conflict with other religious beliefs. Many claim spiritism is
not a religion, but more of a philosophy. They believe
that the science of spiritism allows them to understand much
(19:34):
of what their religion leaves unexplained. Spiritism is often in
the media, making appearances and countless soap operas and television shows, songs,
and even a twenty ten Brazilian blockbuster film about medium
Chico Javier. Most corporations have a Spiritist association, including magistrates, psychologists, artists,
(20:00):
military and teachers. Spiritism is even taught at public university
and has museums dedicated to it. In Brazil, April eighteenth
is officially recognized as National Day of Spiritism. Let's talk
more about medium Chico Javier, who was known as a
(20:22):
psychographic medium. In English, we would call this automatic writing,
where he would go into a trance channel the spirit
of a deceased person and record their words, often in
the spirit person's own handwriting. Francisco Candido Javier was fondly
(20:43):
known as Chico or Chico Javier, and he published more
than four hundred of these books from nineteen thirty two
until his death at the age of ninety two in
two thousand and two. Twenty five million copies of his
books have been sold. They have been translated into many languages.
(21:08):
His book No so Lar, also known as astral City,
was sort of a spiritual memoir, first published in nineteen
forty four, and it's probably the biggest psychographic hit ever.
More than sixty Brazilian editions have been printed and over
(21:30):
two million copies sold. In fact, a full feature film
was made too, that you can find on Amazon. In
addition to publishing books, Javier used his ability to record
more than ten thousand letters from dead people to their families.
Most often it was grieving mothers who traveled from all
(21:52):
over Brazil to visit him in the city of Uberaba,
hoping he would channel messages from their children. In these letters,
the discarnate spirits typically assured loved ones that there was
no need to worry, that they were safe and happy,
and that they still loved their families very much. Sometimes
(22:13):
the writing was backwards and could only be read with
the use of a mirror, and sometimes it was in
a language Javier did not speak. Skeptics who questioned the
letters authenticity were usually convinced by the handwriting and the
inclusion of intimate details only the deceased could know. Javier's
(22:38):
powers were so widely recognized that a few times these
letters were accepted as evidence in courts of law. The
most famous occasion was in nineteen seventy nine, when teenager
Jose Nunes was tried for the murder of his best friend,
Mauricio Garcis. The two boys had been playing with a
(23:00):
gun that went off in Nunez's hands, killing Garcus. While
criminal proceedings were underway, Garcius's grieving parents went to see Javier,
hoping a letter from their son might bring them comfort.
It took a while, but eventually a message arrived from Garcius,
(23:22):
declaring that his death had been an accident. Neither Jose
nor anyone else is guilty, the letter said, and if
anyone should ask for forgiveness, it's me, because I shouldn't
have been playing around with the gun. I should have
been doing my studying. It concludes, as many such messages do,
(23:43):
with an assurance I am alive. Garcius's parents submitted the
letter to the presiding judge, who accepted it as witness testimony.
An analysis of the letter's signature confirmed that it was
exactly the same as Garcis's. The judge admitted the psychographt
(24:05):
letter as evidence and moved to acquit Nunez. The jury
agreed six votes to one. By the time of this trial,
Javier was famous throughout Brazil. In nineteen seventy one, three
quarters of Brazil's televisions tuned into a special live interview
with him on the show The Firing Line. It was
(24:28):
the largest television audience in Brazilian history. It was planned
for only one hour, but lasted nearly three. The audience
response was so extraordinary that Javier was invited to do
a follow up interview later that year. That one lasted
four hours and was watched by an estimated twenty million people.

Of course, not all Brazilians who watched or convinced that
Javier could communicate with spirits, but over the years he
became so widely respected for his humility and generosity. He
donated all of the proceeds from his books to charity
and charged nothing for the letters. More than two million
(25:13):
people signed a petition nominating him for the Nobel Peace
Prize in nineteen eighty one. After our break, I have

going to introduce you to a totally different kind of
medium and you will be amazed at the work he does,

not only giving his proceeds a way to charity, but

and today we're looking at three extraordinary media from Brazil.
Did I hear you say you'd love to hear that
music again? How about a little samba? I hope you
have a smile on your face. Our energy allows the
(28:13):
spirit world to do some magnificent things. So anytime you sing,
you dance, you laugh, they can use your energy and
direct it where it's needed in the world. And we
know our world is in need of healing. I'd like
to share a few more things about Chico Javier before
we move on to our next medium. Javier, as you remember,
(28:37):
was the medium with over four hundred books channeled from
deceased people. In addition, thousands of letters came through him
and were delivered to loved ones, often in the handwriting
of the deceased person. When Javier died in two thousand
and two, three thousand people passed by his coffin each
(29:00):
of his two day wake. After waiting in a line
that stretched for two and a half miles, more than
thirty thousand fans and onlookers accompanied the funeral procession on foot.
At the cemetery, a police helicopter dropped rose pedals on
the casket. The governor announced three official days of mourning.

The country's president described Javier as a great spiritual leader
who was loved and admired throughout Brazil and left his
mark on the hearts of all Brazilians. In two thousand
and six, when A national magazine polled its readers to
select the greatest Brazilian in history, Javier one with thirty
(29:44):
six percent of the vote, nearly twice that was received
by the runner up race car driver Eraton Senna. In
twenty twelve, seventy one percent of voters agreed he was
the greatest Brazilian of all time. Javie and his work
lives on. He was and will remain a central and
(30:04):
beloved figure, not only in Brazil but throughout the world.
Our next Brazilian medium today is Jose Madrado, who is
a medium of multiple faculties, a spiritist lecturer, and has
visited countries in Europe and the Americas with demonstrations of
his unique form of mediumship. Madrado has many abilities, some
(30:30):
he's had from childhood, others he developed in adolescence. But
he started to paint mediumistically when he was twenty seven
years old. This means with his eyes closed and fingertips
on a canvas with oil paints close by, Madrado channels
deceased artists and produces works of art in those artists
(30:54):
styles and they are completed in just minutes. Did I
say his eyes are closed all of the money made
benefits his orphanage. The City of Light. Artists that he
works with includes Renoir, Monet, van Go, Gogin, Picasso, Panchetti, Portinari,
(31:16):
La Trek and more. I first found out about Jose
Madrado from our mutual friend medium Scott Milligan, who you've
heard on Shades of the Afterlife several times, who gave
me the gift of a painting by Madrado. Scott was
responsible for preparing the hotel room Madrado would be staying
in at one of his demonstrations, and purchased a vase
(31:40):
of flowers for his hotel room. When Madrado went into
trance and channeled the painter Renoir, Scott was by his side,
and in just over five minutes, a painting of the
exact vase of flowers in his hotel room was created.
Madrado had not yet seen these flowers yet apparently Renoir
(32:03):
had seen them from the afterlife. I'm thrilled to have
that gift of that painting. Madrato describes going into trance
as follows. I put myself totally at their disposal. I
do a short prayer and then there is a shock
that goes through my spine, and from there I go
into trance. I am not unconscious yet I have no
(32:26):
awareness of what is going on around me. I don't
see things. I always make the comparison of when someone
is put under general anesthesia for surgery, all you can
hear is things from far away, so it's more like that.
But I always intend to be with a clear mind. Generally,
it's like moments of meditation, when you're lying down in
(32:49):
rest time. That's how I feel. As for the orphanage,
Madrado has had a passion to help children since he
was young. He says, I was a very poortrait, I
was hungry. I went through a lot of difficulties. So
this established my passion and I said, one day I
will do for children when I didn't have the opportunity
(33:12):
to do, and I will give them things that I
did not have. An orphanage in Brazil called the City
of Light was in need of funding to stay open.
Madrado first had the visit from the spirit of the
long dead painter Renoir with a proposal to provide funding
for the orphanage by having Renoir and other art masters
(33:35):
in the afterlife paint through him and for him to
sell the paintings. As he put it, he was proposing
to transform paint into bread, and he was going to
make Madrado a human paintbrush to be used by these
masters to paint their beautiful artwork. This action has been
(33:56):
termed psycho pictography or pictography. At first, Madrado was reluctant
to accept the invitation because he had never taken any
painting course and he did not understand art, but he
was soon persuaded because of the good it would do
for the orphanage. Renoirre made it clear to Madrado when
(34:16):
they started to work together that even if one cent
of the money that came from the paintings was used
for anything except service to the poor, the painters would
stop working with him. Since then, Madrado has produced a
NonStop stream of artwork and is referred to as the
Living Brush. Madrato also does sculpture and porcelain paintings through
(34:41):
the inspiration of these artists in spirit. While working full time,
he has used his mediumistic gifts to create a model
community center. The City of Light now has a staff
of twenty two people and two hundred volunteers. Fifteen hundred
people a month access for free healthcare, three hundred children
(35:02):
receive free education, five hundred families a month engage in
cultural activities, and over one hundred homeless people per week
are given access to food, clothes, fresh showers, as well
as health care and spiritual support. The City of Light
offers free medical, dental, psychologists, and social support to the community.

This work is done without government support and is in
an area where there is extreme poverty. Currently, Madrado City
of Light is facing a new challenge, being threatened to
close down unless they comply with brand new fire regulations,
costing them many thousands of dollars. In the next segment,

I'll include details how you can find out more about
the City of Light. I'd like to read some words
from blogger Julianne about her experience with Madrado. She said, Thursday,
we had a guest visit by trance painter Jose Madrado
from Brazil. In a lecture through his interpreter Marilla, Jose
(36:08):
gave a talk on how to connect to spirit, his
personal background, and then as he felt his healing guides
were with him, he gave a healing to one of
the students who was in need. When he was doing this,
there was a strong smell of ether in the air.
He said that his guides do that to provide this
(36:31):
as proof of them being there. In the trance art session,
he went into trance very quickly and started painting. His
assistant prepares by laying out all the tubes of paints
and utensils around him, and he chooses them as he
needs to. She quickly cleans them as he finishes using
(36:52):
them and then replaces them for him to use again.
In his art, Madrato channels the old masters and paints
and styles from the Renaissance period through to Postmodernism with
Impressionists heavily. In his demonstrations. He uses acrylic paints and brushes, scalpels,
(37:13):
wide paint brushes like for a house scrubbing brushes, and
his fingers. Often he is painting with his eyes completely
shut and takes just minutes to complete each painting before
starting the next one. We could smell ether again from
time to time during the demonstration, which lasts about two
(37:34):
and a half hours, with him in trance for over
two hours. When he paints, Madrado stands up with a
canvas laying flat on a table in front of him.
He starts by dotting some paint on the canvas and
smearing it with his fingers or the big paint brush.
Then he uses his fingers, small brushes, scrubbing brushes, or
(37:57):
scalpels to finish his work. At the end of the demonstration,
all the paintings created were auctioned to raise money for
the charitable organization founded and run by him, the City
of Light in Brazil. In our next segment together, I

Jose Madrado and the inspirers that work through him doing
these incredible works of art. Madrado is only a few
years older than me, so he grew up in Brazil
when spiritism was well known. He heard voices. As a child,
he was open to the afterlife. Are you beginning to

see the difference it would make in a child's life
being open to the belief that we are souls having
a human experience and that we don't die. When you
grow up believing that anything is possible and that you
have guides, inspirers, and loved ones working by your side,

it might be possible to listen to these words of encouragement.
Most of us, when we're kids. We're living a happy
life and then we get shut down, whether somebody tells
us we're not good enough or we're not smart enough.
It's tough being a kid. But consider how the future
would look if on a global scale, people believed in

the afterlife raise their children like Nikola Farmer does, letting
them know that they have psychic abilities and shows them
how to use them. I think personally, the world would
be a much different place. And by the way, I

from the afterlife. Now, there's no secret that I love
this woman, and I love what she does, and I

love the passion she has, especially for helping bereaved parents.
She's never charged a penny and makes the most incredible difference. Again,
she grew up in a country that believes in spiritism.

heard about Sonya back in two thousand and two at
an afterlife seminar. They said there's a woman in Brazil
who will meet with parents with a tape recorder and
a second recorder that has some garbled human voices on it.
There's an empty chair for the child in spirit. The

parents ask questions of the children, the recorder records the
garbled voices, and when the recording is played back, the
children are speaking back to their parents. Back in twenty eighteen,
I got to meet Sonya in person and now only
to find out she is working with cameras and video
(45:13):
and recording things like a blank television screen or steam
or static that is being projected into a clear object.
After seeing her work and having my dad's picture and
my ex boyfriend's picture who's now in spirit both come
(45:34):
through in pictures we do not have of them alive.
I was sold on her work. A shout out to

I'd like to play for you a few words from
a mom who, after her daughter died, decided to do
her own investigation, and she created a small YouTube channel

helping other folks who are grieving and giving her advice
to connect with the afterlife. She gets the greatest evidence
that her daughter is still around when she's taking a bath.
Here's her words.

Hi'll, this is Catherine. Welcome to a grief Journey. To
document my journey through grief after my eleven year old
daughter suddenly and unexpectedly died. Today. I want to talk
about something that has given all of us a lot
of comfort, and that is something called after death communication.
So I had an old friend reach out to me
(46:58):
and ask, have you had an any of these experiences
after Kya has passed? And my response was yes, We've
all had quite a few of these experiences with Kaya,
and they've given us sometimes a lot more comfort in
the journey. I think some people who might experience something
known as an after death communication might dismiss it as
(47:21):
just in their imagination. At the very beginning after Kya died,
everything was very chaotic, but if I was able to
get away from the chaos enough, I would feel her
presence with me. So I got away from the chaos
by taking baths. I think I was taking four or
five baths a day. Every time I took a bath,
(47:42):
I could feel her presence with me, and I would
just talk to her and I felt very comforted that
she was still there. One evening, I took a bath
and I couldn't feel her presence, so it was perplexing me.
The next day, I got a call from Kaya's best
friend's mom who told me that her daughter felt Kaya
(48:06):
the evening before. So when I could not feel Kaiya,
her best friend could feel Kya. Since then, we've also
had very vivid dreams. They're not your typical dream. We
didn't wake up and have the memory of the dream
fade away. It's still as very clear in our minds,
(48:26):
these dreams that we've had where we've been able to
be with Kaya and the dream we were still aware
that she had died and we were able to do
things with her, have conversations with her, watch her play,
watch her have joy again. And I would say for me,
these dreams have been the most comforting after death communication
(48:47):
that I've gotten from Kya. We've also had some things
around the house. She was banging and clanging around in
her room for a good three months after she died.
That seemed to stop a couple of weeks ago, but
it was very very clear that there was nothing in
her room that could have made those noises. We've also
(49:08):
had some things with electronics going wonky around our house.
My husband, who I would say, before all this has happened,
was the most skeptical among us of things like life
after death and the eternity of a soul, But he's
been the one who's had the most experiences with her.
He has seen her a lot, He's heard her voice
(49:30):
tell him things like I love you, Tell Mom, I
love her. Tell KRN, I love her. So he's had
the most experiences and he is no longer a skeptic.
I think the most interesting things that we are attributing
to after death communication that we've experienced were at her memorial.
So we had her memorial outdoors by this creek she
(49:53):
always used to love to go to and play in
and walk through, and near the end of her memorial,
it was like all of her friends were suddenly called
down to play in the creek. It was just this
mass exodus from the memorial straight to the creek, and
then we saw a hawk circling over her friends a
(50:14):
couple times and then perching and just watching the friends play.
So we feel like that was Kaya calling them to
go play in the creek and have some moments of
joy after her memorial, which was very hard for all
of them. Kaya was a kind of kid who kept
friends around for years and years and years, and these
(50:35):
are people that she had known for a very long
time and it was a very hard loss for them.
So to see them able to experience that joy, we're
pretty sure that was Kaya's doing. After her memorial, we
went to spread her ashes in a spot outdoors at night,
and a very dear friend of mine saw her first
(50:58):
shooting star of her entire life life the moment we
spread the first part of her ashes. We also believe
that that shooting star was another sign from Kaya. It
was not a night with a meteor shower, it was
not great clear sky conditions to see things, but she
was able to see her first shooting star. Those are
(51:18):
the experiences that we've had. Many people who have lost
someone have similar stories, and I think many more people
possibly experience something similar but dismiss it because they don't
believe it could be true. They give us peace and
help us move on. If any of you out there
are skeptics and someone is sharing an after death communication
(51:41):
experience with you, maybe it's a good idea to just
express that you're happy that it's given them such peace
and leave it at that, instead of trying to talk
to them about why it might not be true, why
it might just be in their head. But anyway, that aside,
if you have lost someone dear to you, my heart
goes out to you, and I hope you can feel
(52:02):
the love you have surrounding you.

I'm excited. We're going to start off with some news
and then we're going on a trip together. So pack
your suitcase. We're going to go to South America and

the country of Brazil. First, some news actress Jennifer Aniston
was recently asked if she's ever had a reading with
a medium. Here's what she said.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
So the answer to that question for me is yes,
I have. I spoke to a medium about four years ago.
We were so many, so much was coming through, so
much was coming through. But she said this one thing,
a bunch of things that blew my mind, but this
one was really incredible. She said, your mom could never
compete with her first husband's dance hers. So my mom's
(02:02):
first husband, my brother's father was like a big band leader,
and he always was having these affairs with women, and
my mom was always sort of.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
You know, just quiet and meek.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
And then she said, but he also wanted her to
know that he never recovered from the death of his sister,
who died in a plane crash.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Something that's so specific.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
So I called my brother and I said, I also
didn't know his father had a sister.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
That was the other thing.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
So I said to my brother, Johnny, did your father
have a sister who died? So I don't say plane crash,
I don't say anything, and then he goes, oh, yeah,
Aunt Jane, Aunt Jane, she died in a plane crash.
Excuse me, oh aunt Jane, Yes, she died in a
(02:54):
plane crash. Charl's now even repeating the story.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
I love that story. When you go to a medium,
you need to hear evidence to believe that your loved
one lives on. But when you get evidence that you
don't even know is the truth, and you have to
go ask somebody else. Those kind of stories I never
get tired of hearing. Next. In June twenty twenty three,
(03:22):
Grammy Award winner Madonna was reportedly intubated after being found unresponsive.
Now she's opening up that she had a near death experience.
She was rushed to a New York City hospital after
developing a bacterial infection. She said the whole experience was
(03:43):
very scary and was put into an induced coma. She
says when she woke up, the first word she said
was no. In her experience, God was asking her, do
you want to come with us, and Madonna, knowing that
her job on Earth was not yet complete, repeated to God, No,
(04:05):
No No. Next, twenty eight year old medium Tyler Henry,
star of the Netflix series Life After Death and E
Entertainment's mega hit television show Hollywood Medium, has opened up
that the process of airing celebrity interviews is not very easy.
(04:27):
It's common when doing a reading that a publicist jumps
in and says, no, no, no, we're not using that.
He says, so much of the evidence that comes through
is of a personal nature. Some of the details never
appear on screen. He enjoys doing celebrity readings, but says
it's really bad for medium who's trying to provide information
(04:51):
that isn't found on Google, and it would be nice
for the celebrities to open up a little more about
their personal lives. He continues that reading everyday folks carries
much less baggage, and that's truly where his heart is.
Tyler says many celebrities still come to him for readings,
(05:12):
but for me, he says, most of my readings are
done for free, and a lot of those readings are
done for terminally ill people. They are my VIPs, and
those situations allow me to provide comfort for people who
are going to be making their transition. I've met with
children before they have passed, as well as their parents.
(05:33):
It allows me to really kind of satisfy why I
do what I do in a much bigger way. Kudos
to Tyler Henry and any others that are giving back next.
Eighty one year old retired comedian, actor and musician Sir
Billy Connelly has admitted to previously offending most religions with
(05:56):
his comedy, but he has now confessed that he can't
accept that death will be the end of him. Connolly,
who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and prostate cancer in
twenty thirteen, said while he's not scared of death, he
does resent the idea of his life coming to an end.
I do feel cheated in a way, but it hasn't
(06:19):
happened yet, So how can I feel cheated? And who knows?
It might be so lovely on the other side that
you don't even think about that. I'm sure there's something
after death. I'm sure there is, asked why, he added,
I don't know, but in recent years I've just got
a knowing that there is. Although Parkinson's has severely slowed
(06:44):
down Connolly's physical abilities, he has not lost his sense
of humor and humor I hope is the last thing
to go next. You may remember the film The Perfect Storm,
which told the story of the boat the Gale, a
commercial fishing vessel that was lost at sea, with all
(07:05):
lives being lost in the Perfect Storm of nineteen ninety one.
The film starred George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane and
Moore and was one of the highest grossing films in
the year two thousand. Now, the author of the book
The Perfect Storm, Sebastian Younger, has a new book telling
(07:28):
his story about what might happen after death. His new
book is titled In My Time of Dying, How I
Came face to face with the idea of an afterlife.
For years as an award winning reporter, Sebastian traveled to
many front lines and frequently put his life at risk,
and yet the closest he ever came to death was
(07:51):
the summer of twenty twenty, while spending a quiet afternoon
at his New England home that he shared with his
wife and two young children. Crippled by abdominal pain, Younger
was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Once there, he
began to slip away as the blackness set in. He
was visited by his dead father, inviting him to join him.
(08:14):
It's okay, his father said, there's nothing to be scared of.
I'll take care of you. That's the last thing Younger
remembered until he was aware again and was told he
suffered a ruptured aneurism and that he shouldn't have survived.
This experience spurred Younger, a confirmed atheist raised by his
(08:35):
physicist father, to respect the empirical, to undertake a scientific, philosophical,
and deeply personal examination of mortality and what happens after
we die. How do we begin to process the brutal
fact that any of us might perish unexpectedly on what
begins as an ordinary day, he says, How do we
(08:57):
grapple with phenomena that's science may be unable to explain,
and what happens to a person emotionally and spiritually when
forced to reckon with such existential questions. His brand new book,
In My Time of Dying is part medical drama, part autobiography,
(09:18):
and part inquiry into the mystery of life after death.

some trivia that you may not know. Famous inventor Thomas Edison,
who created some things we can't live without, like the
electric light bulb and electric light motion pictures, first to

invent the phonograph in eighteen seventy seven. In fact, the
first record he ever created was his own voice reciting
the nursery rhyme Mary had a little lamb. I bet
you didn't know that. In nineteen twenty, he announced plans
to capture a different kind of voice, one that belonged
to those no longer living, specifically a spirit phone capable
(10:30):
of talking to the dead. Mark Hartzman, who is a
historian and the author of Chasing Ghosts, A Tour of
our fascination with spirits and the supernatural, said, aside from
the life changing feat of breaking through the Veil, I
believe Edison's interest in spiritualism was simply to demonstrate that science,
(10:52):
not mediums and Ouiji boards, was the way to do it.
In fact, in nineteen twenty, Thomas Edison told American magazine
that the methods and apparatus commonly used and discussed are
just a lot of unscientific nonsense. Some believed Edison's supposed
(11:12):
belief in communicating with the dead was a joke or
a chance to make headlines and capitalize on spiritualism's popularity.
But at the same time, Edison had an unusual hypothesis
regarding what happens after humans die. The inventor spoke of
his belief in the idea of units in a nutshell,
(11:37):
one hundred trillion of them make up a human being
and keep us functioning. When we die, the life units
move on to someone else. That's another way of saying
our energy cannot be destroyed. It's now over one hundred
years since Edison was designing this machine to record spirit voices,
(12:03):
and although spirit communication is not yet in every household
using technology, there's plenty of people using technology to record
voices and images of the afterlife. During the break, I'm

I want you to imagine growing up in a country
where believing in the afterlife is normal in most of
the world. If a little child talks about seeing Grandma
or Grandpa or somebody else in the afterlife, normally they
call them their imaginary friends, and the kids aren't taken seriously.

Could you imagine encouraging children to talk more about the
people they are seeing and encourage spiritual development. Back on
episode fifty three, we spoke to Nikola Farmer, who works
with young children with the belief that we are all
born naturally psychic. These young children are able to do
(14:52):
extraordinary things while blindfolded. They are able to see using
the power of their minds. They can read books, play
catch with a ball, even do arts and crafts, all
with no vision. Earlier, I told you to pack your
bags because today we are venturing to the country of Brazil,
(15:16):
known for the Amazon River, the rainforest, Rio di Jannio's carnival,
their love for football, food, gorgeous beaches, colorful cities, samba music,
and where people grow up believing in the afterlife. I
first learned of the religion or belief in spiritism, when
(15:38):
my mom and I owned our thirty year catering business
working with race car teams. When my book We Don't Die,
a skeptics discovery of life after Death came out twenty twelve,
Brazilian race car driver Champion Oznegri told me about his
country's belief in the afterlife. He gave me some websites
(16:01):
to research and told me that most people grow up
believing in life after death. Today, I want to share
the amazing works of three Brazilian afterlife pioneers who have
done some incredible things. But first I'd like to tell
you about Spiritism. The Spiritist movement began in nineteenth century
(16:24):
France with the writings of Hippolyte Revail under the pseudonym
Alan Cardick. In his most famous work, The Spirit's Book,
Cardick codified the philosophy that would later sweep the world
as the Spiritist movement. While this book and others written
by Cardik and his followers provide detailed descriptions of spiritist principles,
(16:51):
what appears to be most essential to the movement is
the belief that a spirit exists within each human body.
They believe the spirit reincarnates into an afterlife body, progressing
towards spiritual perfection. Spiritists also believe in the existence of
(17:13):
other life forms in the universe, God as the supreme intelligence,
and an afterlife that is physically close to planet Earth.
They believe when we pass, we go to a colony
of souls that float over the Earth. Spiritism took root
in Brazil with the help of Chico Javier, which I
(17:35):
would normally pronounce Chico Xavier. He was born in nineteen
ten and died in two thousand and two, one of
Brazil's most famous celebrity mediums. We'll be discussing more shortly.
Mediums are a critical aspect of spiritism. They can communicate
with spirits of the afterlife through seances or other means. Javier,
(17:58):
for instance, was renowned for his ability to write letters
from the dead to their loved ones. Six of these
letters were actually used as legitimate evidence in murder trials.
The charisma and popularity of Javier contributed to the explosion
of spiritism in Brazil. Today, Brazil is the most spiritist
(18:24):
country in the world, with over six million believers. Spiritism
is the third largest religious group after Catholics and Evangelicals.
Another twenty million people call themselves spiritist sympathizers, meaning they
still belong to their Catholic or Evangelical church, but they
(18:45):
also believe in spiritism. In the city of Palmelo, for example,
one in every seven people is a medium. Most spiritists
are highly educated, middle to upper class, over ninety eight
percent are literate. This can be attributed to the fact
that spiritism demands intense personal study and research to be
(19:09):
truly understood, as well as a common sentiment that Spiritism
is more refined than traditional Catholicism and spiritism does not
necessarily conflict with other religious beliefs. Many claim spiritism is
not a religion, but more of a philosophy. They believe
that the science of spiritism allows them to understand much
(19:34):
of what their religion leaves unexplained. Spiritism is often in
the media, making appearances and countless soap operas and television shows, songs,
and even a twenty ten Brazilian blockbuster film about medium
Chico Javier. Most corporations have a Spiritist association, including magistrates, psychologists, artists,
(20:00):
military and teachers. Spiritism is even taught at public university
and has museums dedicated to it. In Brazil, April eighteenth
is officially recognized as National Day of Spiritism. Let's talk
more about medium Chico Javier, who was known as a
(20:22):
psychographic medium. In English, we would call this automatic writing,
where he would go into a trance channel the spirit
of a deceased person and record their words, often in
the spirit person's own handwriting. Francisco Candido Javier was fondly
(20:43):
known as Chico or Chico Javier, and he published more
than four hundred of these books from nineteen thirty two
until his death at the age of ninety two in
two thousand and two. Twenty five million copies of his
books have been sold. They have been translated into many languages.
(21:08):
His book No so Lar, also known as astral City,
was sort of a spiritual memoir, first published in nineteen
forty four, and it's probably the biggest psychographic hit ever.
More than sixty Brazilian editions have been printed and over
(21:30):
two million copies sold. In fact, a full feature film
was made too, that you can find on Amazon. In
addition to publishing books, Javier used his ability to record
more than ten thousand letters from dead people to their families.
Most often it was grieving mothers who traveled from all
(21:52):
over Brazil to visit him in the city of Uberaba,
hoping he would channel messages from their children. In these letters,
the discarnate spirits typically assured loved ones that there was
no need to worry, that they were safe and happy,
and that they still loved their families very much. Sometimes
(22:13):
the writing was backwards and could only be read with
the use of a mirror, and sometimes it was in
a language Javier did not speak. Skeptics who questioned the
letters authenticity were usually convinced by the handwriting and the
inclusion of intimate details only the deceased could know. Javier's
(22:38):
powers were so widely recognized that a few times these
letters were accepted as evidence in courts of law. The
most famous occasion was in nineteen seventy nine, when teenager
Jose Nunes was tried for the murder of his best friend,
Mauricio Garcis. The two boys had been playing with a
(23:00):
gun that went off in Nunez's hands, killing Garcus. While
criminal proceedings were underway, Garcius's grieving parents went to see Javier,
hoping a letter from their son might bring them comfort.
It took a while, but eventually a message arrived from Garcius,
(23:22):
declaring that his death had been an accident. Neither Jose
nor anyone else is guilty, the letter said, and if
anyone should ask for forgiveness, it's me, because I shouldn't
have been playing around with the gun. I should have
been doing my studying. It concludes, as many such messages do,
(23:43):
with an assurance I am alive. Garcius's parents submitted the
letter to the presiding judge, who accepted it as witness testimony.
An analysis of the letter's signature confirmed that it was
exactly the same as Garcis's. The judge admitted the psychographt
(24:05):
letter as evidence and moved to acquit Nunez. The jury
agreed six votes to one. By the time of this trial,
Javier was famous throughout Brazil. In nineteen seventy one, three
quarters of Brazil's televisions tuned into a special live interview
with him on the show The Firing Line. It was
(24:28):
the largest television audience in Brazilian history. It was planned
for only one hour, but lasted nearly three. The audience
response was so extraordinary that Javier was invited to do
a follow up interview later that year. That one lasted
four hours and was watched by an estimated twenty million people.

Of course, not all Brazilians who watched or convinced that
Javier could communicate with spirits, but over the years he
became so widely respected for his humility and generosity. He
donated all of the proceeds from his books to charity
and charged nothing for the letters. More than two million
(25:13):
people signed a petition nominating him for the Nobel Peace
Prize in nineteen eighty one. After our break, I have

and today we're looking at three extraordinary media from Brazil.
Did I hear you say you'd love to hear that
music again? How about a little samba? I hope you
have a smile on your face. Our energy allows the

spirit world to do some magnificent things. So anytime you sing,
you dance, you laugh, they can use your energy and
direct it where it's needed in the world. And we
know our world is in need of healing. I'd like
to share a few more things about Chico Javier before
we move on to our next medium. Javier, as you remember,
(28:37):
was the medium with over four hundred books channeled from
deceased people. In addition, thousands of letters came through him
and were delivered to loved ones, often in the handwriting
of the deceased person. When Javier died in two thousand
and two, three thousand people passed by his coffin each
(29:00):
of his two day wake. After waiting in a line
that stretched for two and a half miles, more than
thirty thousand fans and onlookers accompanied the funeral procession on foot.
At the cemetery, a police helicopter dropped rose pedals on
the casket. The governor announced three official days of mourning.

The country's president described Javier as a great spiritual leader
who was loved and admired throughout Brazil and left his
mark on the hearts of all Brazilians. In two thousand
and six, when A national magazine polled its readers to
select the greatest Brazilian in history, Javier one with thirty
(29:44):
six percent of the vote, nearly twice that was received
by the runner up race car driver Eraton Senna. In
twenty twelve, seventy one percent of voters agreed he was
the greatest Brazilian of all time. Javie and his work
lives on. He was and will remain a central and
(30:04):
beloved figure, not only in Brazil but throughout the world.
Our next Brazilian medium today is Jose Madrado, who is
a medium of multiple faculties, a spiritist lecturer, and has
visited countries in Europe and the Americas with demonstrations of
his unique form of mediumship. Madrado has many abilities, some
(30:30):
he's had from childhood, others he developed in adolescence. But
he started to paint mediumistically when he was twenty seven
years old. This means with his eyes closed and fingertips
on a canvas with oil paints close by, Madrado channels
deceased artists and produces works of art in those artists
(30:54):
styles and they are completed in just minutes. Did I
say his eyes are closed all of the money made
benefits his orphanage. The City of Light. Artists that he
works with includes Renoir, Monet, van Go, Gogin, Picasso, Panchetti, Portinari,
(31:16):
La Trek and more. I first found out about Jose
Madrado from our mutual friend medium Scott Milligan, who you've
heard on Shades of the Afterlife several times, who gave
me the gift of a painting by Madrado. Scott was
responsible for preparing the hotel room Madrado would be staying
in at one of his demonstrations, and purchased a vase
(31:40):
of flowers for his hotel room. When Madrado went into
trance and channeled the painter Renoir, Scott was by his side,
and in just over five minutes, a painting of the
exact vase of flowers in his hotel room was created.
Madrado had not yet seen these flowers yet apparently Renoir
(32:03):
had seen them from the afterlife. I'm thrilled to have
that gift of that painting. Madrato describes going into trance
as follows. I put myself totally at their disposal. I
do a short prayer and then there is a shock
that goes through my spine, and from there I go
into trance. I am not unconscious yet I have no
(32:26):
awareness of what is going on around me. I don't
see things. I always make the comparison of when someone
is put under general anesthesia for surgery, all you can
hear is things from far away, so it's more like that.
But I always intend to be with a clear mind. Generally,
it's like moments of meditation, when you're lying down in
(32:49):
rest time. That's how I feel. As for the orphanage,
Madrado has had a passion to help children since he
was young. He says, I was a very poortrait, I
was hungry. I went through a lot of difficulties. So
this established my passion and I said, one day I
will do for children when I didn't have the opportunity
(33:12):
to do, and I will give them things that I
did not have. An orphanage in Brazil called the City
of Light was in need of funding to stay open.
Madrado first had the visit from the spirit of the
long dead painter Renoir with a proposal to provide funding
for the orphanage by having Renoir and other art masters
(33:35):
in the afterlife paint through him and for him to
sell the paintings. As he put it, he was proposing
to transform paint into bread, and he was going to
make Madrado a human paintbrush to be used by these
masters to paint their beautiful artwork. This action has been
(33:56):
termed psycho pictography or pictography. At first, Madrado was reluctant
to accept the invitation because he had never taken any
painting course and he did not understand art, but he
was soon persuaded because of the good it would do
for the orphanage. Renoirre made it clear to Madrado when
(34:16):
they started to work together that even if one cent
of the money that came from the paintings was used
for anything except service to the poor, the painters would
stop working with him. Since then, Madrado has produced a
NonStop stream of artwork and is referred to as the
Living Brush. Madrato also does sculpture and porcelain paintings through
(34:41):
the inspiration of these artists in spirit. While working full time,
he has used his mediumistic gifts to create a model
community center. The City of Light now has a staff
of twenty two people and two hundred volunteers. Fifteen hundred
people a month access for free healthcare, three hundred children
(35:02):
receive free education, five hundred families a month engage in
cultural activities, and over one hundred homeless people per week
are given access to food, clothes, fresh showers, as well
as health care and spiritual support. The City of Light
offers free medical, dental, psychologists, and social support to the community.
(35:26):
This work is done without government support and is in
an area where there is extreme poverty. Currently, Madrado City
of Light is facing a new challenge, being threatened to
close down unless they comply with brand new fire regulations,
costing them many thousands of dollars. In the next segment,
(35:47):
I'll include details how you can find out more about
the City of Light. I'd like to read some words
from blogger Julianne about her experience with Madrado. She said, Thursday,
we had a guest visit by trance painter Jose Madrado
from Brazil. In a lecture through his interpreter Marilla, Jose
(36:08):
gave a talk on how to connect to spirit, his
personal background, and then as he felt his healing guides
were with him, he gave a healing to one of
the students who was in need. When he was doing this,
there was a strong smell of ether in the air.
He said that his guides do that to provide this
(36:31):
as proof of them being there. In the trance art session,
he went into trance very quickly and started painting. His
assistant prepares by laying out all the tubes of paints
and utensils around him, and he chooses them as he
needs to. She quickly cleans them as he finishes using
(36:52):
them and then replaces them for him to use again.
In his art, Madrato channels the old masters and paints
and styles from the Renaissance period through to Postmodernism with
Impressionists heavily. In his demonstrations. He uses acrylic paints and brushes, scalpels,
(37:13):
wide paint brushes like for a house scrubbing brushes, and
his fingers. Often he is painting with his eyes completely
shut and takes just minutes to complete each painting before
starting the next one. We could smell ether again from
time to time during the demonstration, which lasts about two
(37:34):
and a half hours, with him in trance for over
two hours. When he paints, Madrado stands up with a
canvas laying flat on a table in front of him.
He starts by dotting some paint on the canvas and
smearing it with his fingers or the big paint brush.
Then he uses his fingers, small brushes, scrubbing brushes, or
(37:57):
scalpels to finish his work. At the end of the demonstration,
all the paintings created were auctioned to raise money for
the charitable organization founded and run by him, the City
of Light in Brazil. In our next segment together, I

Jose Madrado and the inspirers that work through him doing
these incredible works of art. Madrado is only a few
years older than me, so he grew up in Brazil
when spiritism was well known. He heard voices. As a child,
he was open to the afterlife. Are you beginning to
(38:41):
see the difference it would make in a child's life
being open to the belief that we are souls having
a human experience and that we don't die. When you
grow up believing that anything is possible and that you
have guides, inspirers, and loved ones working by your side,
(39:03):
it might be possible to listen to these words of encouragement.
Most of us, when we're kids. We're living a happy
life and then we get shut down, whether somebody tells
us we're not good enough or we're not smart enough.
It's tough being a kid. But consider how the future
would look if on a global scale, people believed in
(39:25):
the afterlife raise their children like Nikola Farmer does, letting
them know that they have psychic abilities and shows them
how to use them. I think personally, the world would
be a much different place. And by the way, I

from the afterlife. Now, there's no secret that I love
this woman, and I love what she does, and I

love the passion she has, especially for helping bereaved parents.

she grew up in a country that believes in spiritism.

heard about Sonya back in two thousand and two at
an afterlife seminar. They said there's a woman in Brazil
who will meet with parents with a tape recorder and
a second recorder that has some garbled human voices on it.
There's an empty chair for the child in spirit. The

parents ask questions of the children, the recorder records the
garbled voices, and when the recording is played back, the
children are speaking back to their parents. Back in twenty eighteen,
I got to meet Sonya in person and now only
to find out she is working with cameras and video
(45:13):
and recording things like a blank television screen or steam
or static that is being projected into a clear object.
After seeing her work and having my dad's picture and
my ex boyfriend's picture who's now in spirit both come
(45:34):
through in pictures we do not have of them alive.
I was sold on her work. A shout out to

I'd like to play for you a few words from
a mom who, after her daughter died, decided to do
her own investigation, and she created a small YouTube channel
(46:21):
helping other folks who are grieving and giving her advice
to connect with the afterlife. She gets the greatest evidence
that her daughter is still around when she's taking a bath.
Here's her words.
Speaker 8 (46:36):
Hi'll, this is Catherine. Welcome to a grief Journey. To
document my journey through grief after my eleven year old
daughter suddenly and unexpectedly died. Today. I want to talk
about something that has given all of us a lot
of comfort, and that is something called after death communication.
So I had an old friend reach out to me
(46:58):
and ask, have you had an any of these experiences
after Kya has passed? And my response was yes, We've
all had quite a few of these experiences with Kaya,
and they've given us sometimes a lot more comfort in
the journey. I think some people who might experience something
known as an after death communication might dismiss it as
(47:21):
just in their imagination. At the very beginning after Kya died,
everything was very chaotic, but if I was able to
get away from the chaos enough, I would feel her
presence with me. So I got away from the chaos
by taking baths. I think I was taking four or
five baths a day. Every time I took a bath,
(47:42):
I could feel her presence with me, and I would
just talk to her and I felt very comforted that
she was still there. One evening, I took a bath
and I couldn't feel her presence, so it was perplexing me.
The next day, I got a call from Kaya's best
friend's mom who told me that her daughter felt Kaya
(48:06):
the evening before. So when I could not feel Kaiya,
her best friend could feel Kya. Since then, we've also
had very vivid dreams. They're not your typical dream. We
didn't wake up and have the memory of the dream
fade away. It's still as very clear in our minds,
(48:26):
these dreams that we've had where we've been able to
be with Kaya and the dream we were still aware
that she had died and we were able to do
things with her, have conversations with her, watch her play,
watch her have joy again. And I would say for me,
these dreams have been the most comforting after death communication
(48:47):
that I've gotten from Kya. We've also had some things
around the house. She was banging and clanging around in
her room for a good three months after she died.
That seemed to stop a couple of weeks ago, but
it was very very clear that there was nothing in
her room that could have made those noises. We've also
(49:08):
had some things with electronics going wonky around our house.
My husband, who I would say, before all this has happened,
was the most skeptical among us of things like life
after death and the eternity of a soul, But he's
been the one who's had the most experiences with her.
He has seen her a lot, He's heard her voice
(49:30):
tell him things like I love you, Tell Mom, I
love her. Tell KRN, I love her. So he's had
the most experiences and he is no longer a skeptic.
I think the most interesting things that we are attributing
to after death communication that we've experienced were at her memorial.
So we had her memorial outdoors by this creek she
(49:53):
always used to love to go to and play in
and walk through, and near the end of her memorial,
it was like all of her friends were suddenly called
down to play in the creek. It was just this
mass exodus from the memorial straight to the creek, and
then we saw a hawk circling over her friends a
(50:14):
couple times and then perching and just watching the friends play.
So we feel like that was Kaya calling them to
go play in the creek and have some moments of
joy after her memorial, which was very hard for all
of them. Kaya was a kind of kid who kept
friends around for years and years and years, and these
(50:35):
are people that she had known for a very long
time and it was a very hard loss for them.
So to see them able to experience that joy, we're
pretty sure that was Kaya's doing. After her memorial, we
went to spread her ashes in a spot outdoors at night,
and a very dear friend of mine saw her first
(50:58):
shooting star of her entire life life the moment we
spread the first part of her ashes. We also believe
that that shooting star was another sign from Kaya. It
was not a night with a meteor shower, it was
not great clear sky conditions to see things, but she
was able to see her first shooting star. Those are
(51:18):
the experiences that we've had. Many people who have lost
someone have similar stories, and I think many more people
possibly experience something similar but dismiss it because they don't
believe it could be true. They give us peace and
help us move on. If any of you out there
are skeptics and someone is sharing an after death communication
(51:41):
experience with you, maybe it's a good idea to just
express that you're happy that it's given them such peace
and leave it at that, instead of trying to talk
to them about why it might not be true, why
it might just be in their head. But anyway, that aside,
if you have lost someone dear to you, my heart
goes out to you, and I hope you can feel
(52:02):
the love you have surrounding you.
