Speaker 1 (00:56):
Ready to be amazed by the wizard of weird. This
is Strange with Joshua. I am Joshua be one, and
each week on this show, I'll be bringing in brand
new mind blowing content, news, exercises, and weird experiments you

(01:18):
can do at home, and a lot more. On this
edition of the show. Yes, I'm back with Creepy Audio,
a story about some flying monkeys, Captain Kirk's Grave, and
just and a whole lot more. This is my first

(01:40):
show of the year twoenty twenty six, and of course
I've taken off some time recently for the holidays and
the latter part of the year, so I just have
a long list of crazy things to talk about, and
I'm you know, I'm just gonna start rambling and we'll
see how far I can get on this particular edition

(02:03):
of the show. How was your holiday season? Did you
have a Did you have a good Christmas season? Everything's
been great here, you know. I live, of course, in
Las Vegas, Nevada, And actually most of this area is
really really nice and really really safe. Yes, all towns

(02:27):
have their bad areas where you you should avoid at night,
you know, but I live in a really nice, safe neighborhood.
And you know, my house has got the best security
money can buy. And the only times I've ever had
any problems have been around Christmas. And a few years ago,

(02:50):
one night, a porch pirate snatched a box off of
my off my porch. It was an Amazon delivery that
had a twelve dollars hair dryer inside of it that
I was just buying for an experiment I was doing,
so he didn't make off with anything too valuable. He

(03:13):
must have been following the Amazon delivery truck around because
I looked at the video and as soon as the
truck left, I mean within like twenty seconds, he snatched
it off the porch. And then on another occasion, I
have a storage unit that is close to my house,
and on Christmas Day, someone broke into that storage unit

(03:35):
and stole a drone that I had in there. And
I've always wondered if that was a happenstance or if
somebody was questioning whether or not I was using the
drone inappropriately in some of my work, which I never did.
Of course I've never done that. I know better, but

(03:56):
that's it. I've never had any problems at my house. Nonetheless,
knowing that Chrismus is a time when a lot of
thieves are out taking advantage of stuff, I decided I
was going to brush up on my shooting skills at
the local range. Now you have to understand I've been
shooting since I was five years old. I grew up
in the mountains of western North Carolina. I'm very proficient

(04:16):
with firearms. I'm kind of that cold, steely Clint Eastwood type.
So I said to Lauren, who doesn't have as much experience,
I said, let's go to the range and brush up
a little bit. So we go to the range. I
bring a twelve gauge shotgun. What can go wrong with

(04:36):
a twelve gage shotgun, right, you know, you barely have
to aim the thing. So we go to the range.
You've never been to a range. It's very disorienting because
you have to put in ear plug. You have to
have ear protection, so you feel like you're underwater the
whole time. And then you put on safety glasses which
can affect your vision a little bit. And then you
walk into this room, you know, with a bunch of

(04:57):
strangers all firing away, and it's a little bit nerve wracking.
You can't really talk to each other and explain what's
going on because you can't hear each other. But anyway,
so we go up to our lane and I got
my box of shotgun shells there, and so I'm not
showing Lauren, like, let me, let me show you how
this is done. She's never fired a shotgun. So I
load up the shotgun and boom, boom, boom, I'm shooting

(05:21):
fired away at this imaginary man on the piece of
paper out there. Phil, Sorry for that guy. Boom boom.
You know, go through my shells. I'm like showing her
what to do and reach down pick up some more shells.
Pop a man, Boom, boom. You know, I'm out ready
to hand it off to her. I put some more
shells in there? What what the and I look down

(05:45):
and my dumb I don't I don't know if I
can say the word that I want to say. I
did something I've never done before in my entire life.
I put a shotgun shell backwards, and I just got
carried away. I was just being cocky, I guess, and

(06:10):
I put a shell into backwards. So I'm like, oh,
that's crazy, and I can't get it out. This thing
is hung in there, and Lawrence like, what's wrong? What's wrong?
And I'm trying to explain to her and I'm trying
to show her, but I don't want to wave thing
and she doesn't understand what's happening. And I cannot get
this shell out of there. And now I'm starting to
sweat because I'm like, uh, I just did like the

(06:31):
dumbest thing you can probably do with the gun. And
so finally it was time where I was like, I
guess I just have to face the humiliation. I cannot
get this out, so I have to tell her to
watch the lane. I have to go outside, go to
where the staff is like uh, I need some help please.
Oh yeah, what is I put the bulletin backwards. I

(06:59):
was going to shoot my s It's like the dumbest
thing you could do, you know, totally embarrassing. So the
guy comes in there, the dude who works there to
help people, and it takes him like five minutes to
get this shotgun shell out of there, and he's and
he's using all these tools and he finally got some
fliers and pulled it out and after that, you know,

(07:19):
everything was fine. Everything, We're great again. But like I
guess the moral of that story is always always always
use the utmost care with your firearm, even if you
are in a professional range with all the protection and
all the gear. Uh, don't ever get a little too overconfident.

(07:42):
You can do stupid things like that, but don't worry.
Like I said, I'm fine now if I'm very proficient
now with the shotgun, and show so is is Lauren.
Uh Okay. A lot of weird things have been happening
in this area though, over the past couple months here

(08:04):
around Las Vegas, in particular the mountains surrounding Lake Mead.
Lake Mead, of course, is the huge water supply that's
probably like thirty five forty minutes from Las Vegas. That's
where the Hoover Dam is. That's where they backed up
the Colorado River and that supplies all the water for

(08:26):
our area and all the electricity, and they're always worried
about the water level falling. But it's you know, it's
a highly restricted, very protected place. You know, a lot
of federal land around there, and people, I guess back
around late October, they started reporting these really unnerving sounds

(08:52):
coming from various mountains around the Lake Mead area. Typically
you have like somebody who's camping and they wake up
the crack at dawn and hear this incredibly loud, these
sounds just echoing, resonating from the mountains all around at

(09:15):
almost like mechanical sound, some gargantuan mechanical sound. I'm gonna
play a clip of it for you here just a second.
And if people were calling nine one one nine one
one has been getting flooded with calls and nobody can
figure out what is causing these sounds. So imagine, okay,

(09:37):
just imagine that you you woke up and your tent
or at your cabin or whatever, and you hear this
as loud as you can probably imagine all around you
resonating from the mountains. Here's a little clip of it. Now,

(10:06):
does that sound unnerving? There's something about it that kind
of makes the hair stand up on your neck. Some
people have described it as a deep, metallic groaning with
almost a hiss. And at first, when these reports started
appearing on the Internet, I thought, well, maybe this is

(10:28):
just some hoax, you know, somebody's just people are posting
so much crazy stuff on the internet anymore, you don't
know what to believe. But no, it turns out I
got together with my friend Jason Sarachi, you know him,
He does all the UFO videography. He lives near there,
and he heard it himself. So it's absolutely true. It's

(10:49):
been in the news. Dozens of people have reported it,
maybe more now, and there's no mining going on. There
is no construction, there's I mean, just from what I
understand as I record this, as of this moment, there
is no explanation for what caused these sounds. It's just

(11:09):
another part of the weird, the weird phenomena that occurs
around this part of the world. And so Halloween night,
I wanted to do something very special because Halloween Night
was on a I guess it was a Friday this
past Halloween twenty twenty five, and I was like, I

(11:31):
need to go do something that's really cool that I
can talk about on the show. When we come back,
I'll tell you what I did here in Las Vegas
Halloween Night, and then we're going to get into so
much more, including flying monkeys. Hey, listen, do you like
this show? Do you want me to keep doing it? Well,
I'll do it as long as you support it. And

(11:52):
to support it, there are two important things you can do.

loved one as a gift. I am Joshua pe Warren,
and you are listening to Strange Things on the iHeartRadio
and Coast to Coast AM Paranormal Podcast Network, and I

(12:53):
will be right back. Welcome back to Strange Things of

(13:33):
the iHeartRadio and Coast to Coast AM Paranormal Podcast Network.
I am your host, the Wizard of Weird, beaming into
your wormhole brain from my studio in Sin City, Las Vegas, Nevada,
where every day is golden and every night is silver.
I Gietato Zoom. And you know I recently I did

(13:55):
recently have a guy who tried to scam me. You know,
I sell products online from time to time, and recently
I purchased this gold ring that was made by local
artisans in Lords, France, which of course is the most
visited Christian site in the world. I understand people go

(14:18):
there and they have miracles occur, and I've done a
whole show about this topic before, and they these artisans
made this small batch of these beautiful little rings and
I got one, and I fell in love with it,
and so I contacted them and said, I want to
buy all the rest of these that you have, and

(14:40):
they said, well, we only have eleven. And I said
when are you going to make more? And they say, well,
we don't have any plans to make anymore. So I said, well, okay,
I'll take all eleven. So I got all eleven of them,
and then I sent out a newsletter and I told everybody,
I have eleven of these rings if you want them.
They were sold out in no time. They're adjustable, actually

(15:02):
you can get a small size or a large size,
but they're adjustable, and they are really high quality, like
I say, their goal. But one guy bought three of
these rings, and apparently he look long story short, he
was trying to scam me out of them by not
paying for them properly. And the good news is I

(15:27):
have those rings. So he did not succeed. But it
really ticked me off because there were lots of you
trying to There were a lot of you going to
the website who wanted to legitimately get one, and at
least three of you missed out because of this this jack.

(15:49):
So what I want you to do if you are interested.
As of right now, I still have these listed again.
And if you want one last chance to get one
of these rings from Lords France. I wear mine almost
every day, go to Strangethingspromo dot com. Promo is just

(16:09):
pr Strange thingspromo dot com. And if if you get
there soon enough, you might be able to get one
of these. Because I'm not bluffing, I will never have
them again. And they were already sold out until I
realized that this guy was not a serious buyer. I
think he was going to try to get them and
then resell them and do some stuff and I don't know.

(16:31):
So let's get back to the topic at hand. You know,
so many odd things have been happening also in addition
to like the noises in this area, you may have
heard that sometime, oh gosh, I want to say this
was also maybe like in November, some kind of an

(16:54):
object crashed at Area fifty one. It was actually not
at area. It was near Area fifty one, not too
far from where I have my where I have my
property out there in Rachel. I'm looking it up right now.
It looks like this was first reported October thirtieth, This

(17:15):
is right around the same time when people started reporting
those big, booming, metallic noises around Lake Mead, some kind
of an unknown object fell from the sky and crashed
just outside of area fifty one, and immediately this whole
thing was just shrouded in mystery. The military came in.

(17:38):
They obviously they confiscated everything, they cleaned up the site. Residents,
of course, they were able to see what was happening,
and as soon as some residents could go to the site,
it got even weirder because they were saying that someone
had obviously or some organization had obviously gone to that
site and sprinkled around a lot of bits and pieces

(18:04):
of conventional aircraft, almost like that somebody was trying to
cover up what actually had crashed there and that or
at least sort of confuse everybody and throw off the scent.
And so we're not exactly I mean, I wish that
I had more information for you about this, but of

(18:28):
all people, you think, you know, if anybody would have
some it would be me. But it's been so hush hush,
that's all I can tell you about it. And I
think that even locals were told, like you do not
talk about what happened here. They got threatened in some way.
So I don't know. I don't know, but there has

(18:48):
been a lot of bizarre stuff happening here in southern Nevada.
So for Halloween Night of twenty twenty five, which again
I believe was no, okay, it was a Saturday. Is
that what it is? That? Righty? Okay, I can't I

(19:12):
couldn't remember. Okay, it looks like it was a Saturday.
I knew it was on the weekend, of course. So
it's always a big deal when Halloween is on a
Friday or a Saturday, you know, because everybody really parties
like crazy. And no, wait a second, no, I'm totally

(19:32):
I got I. I have too many things going on.
And uh in October okay, yeah, seriously, October is just
like a blur to me every year, all right, So yeah,
I was right. October thirty first, twenty twenty five was
a Friday, Okay. So I said to Lauren, I want

(19:54):
to do something that is significant, something I've never done before.
And it occurred to me, and this is hard to
believe that I hadn't thought about this before. I thought,
you know, I want to stay in the oldest room
in the oldest hotel in Las Vegas because I have

(20:14):
heard over and over that this room is haunted. I
don't know why I've never stayed there until now. I
just I just have too many things going on around Halloween.
I think that's what it is. The oldest hotel in
casino in Las Vegas is called the Golden Gate Hotel
and Casino. It's located at one Fremont Street in Las Vegas.

(20:39):
Oldest and smallest hotel included in the Fremont Street Experience,
one hundred and twenty two rooms, and they also had
the very first telephone number in Las Vegas. The hotel
opened in nineteen oh six, and in nineteen oh seven

(21:01):
when they first set up telephone wires, the telephone number
for the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino was one that
was their number one. At that time, it was actually
called the Hotel Nevada. I think it's changed the name
changed names over time, but that's how old this place is.

(21:21):
And what's cool is that when you go to the
Golden Gate and really when you walk in there, they
have a lot of old artifacts, old slot machines, they
have an old telephone there. There are some areas where
you can see like there's I think there's like an
original drinking fountain that they installed there that they left untouched.
It's a really cool place to visit if you'd never

(21:43):
never been to the Golden Gate Hotel. But when you
go to the section where they have their rooms, there
is an area, okay, when you're in kind of a
dingy hallway, kind of a dim hallway, and there is
a big black vertical line that goes from the ceiling

(22:05):
down to the floor, and on the left side is
an arrow that says now, and on the right side
is an arrow that says nineteen o six. And that
is because that if you stand there and you turn
to the right where it says nineteen oh six, well
you are in one of the original rooms. From there.

(22:31):
There were ten rooms, ten original rooms that still remain
just as they were from nineteen oh six. And those
ten rooms are all at that end of the hallway. Okay,
so if you're going to stay in one of those,
so I of course I contacted them and I said
I want to stay. And you know, this room from
nineteen oh six that I've heard is haunted by some lady.
Nobody knows who she is. There's a picture that may

(22:54):
show her, just a typical picture standing in a window
back in the early nineteen hundreds, wearing a long dress.
Don't know much about who she was. There was a
lot of secrecy in Las Vegas for a number of reasons,
as you can imagine, So we don't know who this
woman was. But they said, okay, you get to stay
in one of the original rooms. And uh, in fact,

(23:18):
you know, I'm looking at some of the pictures right
now and the room that I got. Listen to this,
it says officially original says this right here is one
of the first ten rooms in all of Las Vegas,
built by Ramcher John F. Miller. This establishment opened in

(23:38):
nineteen oh six and has never closed. If these walls
could talk, you'd be in for a long, interesting story.
And now you're a part of it. They gave me
room too seventeen. Now. I did not request room two
seventeen in particular, but they said that's the room that
you want to stay in two seventeen. Now. You may

(24:00):
or may not know that when Stephen King created his
famous novel The Shining the Haunted Room there at the
Stanley Hotel where it was based was room two seventeen,
Room two seventeen, And however, they changed that in the

(24:27):
movie to two thirty seven because the Timberline Lodge, which
was used for the exterior shots, they had a real
room two seventeen, and so they asked Stanley Kubrick to
change the number so guests would not be afraid of
that room. So Kubrick changed it to two thirty seven. So,
if you go to the Stanley Hotel in Colorado, which

(24:47):
is where Stephen King based his his stories on his
his he was inspired by his stay there, two seventeen
is the haunted room. That's the magnet they'll give you.
That's the souvenir they'll give you, is for two seven.
And they just so happened to give me room two
seventeen to spend Halloween night at the Golden Gate Hotel.

(25:09):
Gotta take a break. I'm Joshua wa Pee Warren. If
you're listening to Strange Things on the iHeartRadio and Coast
to Coast am Paranormal podcast network, and I will be
back after these important messages. Welcome back to Strange Things

(25:59):
on the iheartra and Coast to Coast a para normal
podcast network. I'm your host Joshua P. Warren, And this
is the show where the unusual becomes usual. Of course,
people think about Las Vegas, they think about all the
aliens and UFOs and area fifty one, but this is

(26:21):
also a very haunted region, lots of old ghost towns around.
And you know I was talking about Lake Mead. Lake
Mead is the deadliest national park in the entire country.
Did you know that? In fact, for example, I found

(26:41):
this local news article from eight News. Now, this is
an article from twenty twenty four. The nation's deadliest national
park is becoming even deadlier, as the number of deaths
reported at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area just halfway
through twenty twenty four is about to surpass the total

(27:01):
number from previous years. Nineteen people had died at that point,
just you know, halfway through the year. I don't know
how many people have died over the past year, but
I've always been told that the reason so many people
die is that, well, obviously there is a lot of
drinking in the Vegas area. You can drink here twenty

(27:24):
four to seven. So do you have people who go
out and they're not able to properly operate a boat
or you know, to swim the way they think they can.
But they say that One of the more prevalent causes, however,
is that people start swimming across Lake Meat and it

(27:44):
looks very calm, but the looks are deceiving. Because of
the layout of the land and the mountains and the desert,
it's hard to perceive distances, so that you're swimming may
look like it's a lot shorter than it actually is
once you start swimming and you get too far out,

(28:05):
and then you get into all these weird currents that
are created by the Hoover Dam, you know, sucking the
water down to the turbans and all that kind of stuff.
So that's what I've been told. But anyway, a lot
of ghosty things around here, spooky stuff, man, So let
me see. I'm still a little rusty after taking some

(28:29):
time off for the holidays. That speaking of drink, and
I think the eggnog hasn't worn off entirely yet, you know.
Thomas Wolf is the famous author who was from Asheville,
North Carolina, where I was born and raised. I think
he was born in nineteen hundred and In his famous

(28:52):
novel Look Homeward Angel, he talks about being beside his
older brother Ben, as Ben is dying of tuberculosis, and
he watches his brother die, and there is this quote
from the book that has always stuck with me. He wrote,
we can believe in the nothingness of life, We can

(29:15):
believe in the nothingness of death and of life after death.
But who can believe in the nothingness of Ben? That
was his brother Ben. So, if you've lost someone close
to you, I think you understand what that means. It's

(29:37):
hard to even if you don't fully believe in ghosts,
it's just very difficult to accept that a personality just
disappears and has gone forever. So I decided to stay
in Room two seventeen Halloween night at the Golden Gate
Hotel and Casino downtown Las Vegas. Room the oldest hotel,

(30:02):
and I went in there and I set up all
kinds of cameras and all kinds of equipment. I won't
bore you with all the technical details you can imagine,
and then I I left for hours, and Lauren and
I just went out and ran around Fremont Street and
it was a mad house. It was absolutely insane. You

(30:25):
can hardly walk. It was claustrophobic people are dressed in
the craziest costumes, half naked in many cases. And then
we went back and spent the night there. And here's
what I can tell you. I try to always be
as honest with you as possible at all times. But

(30:48):
you know, this is a show. I want to make,
an entertaining I want to make things sound interesting and
sensational for you. But I won't lie to you, and
I'm just going to tell you honestly, I I ever
experienced one thing in that room that I would consider ghostly, like,
not directly. I didn't. People say they've seen this woman

(31:10):
in there, They've heard the knocking on the walls, the
lights blink on and off, the closet door opens and closes,
the toilet flushes itself, like you hear all these things.
Not one thing happened. However, However, having said that, the

(31:31):
next day, I went through my footage and I was
looking at all my instruments, and there was one thing
that's kind of odd. I had. One of the instruments
I had was an electrostatic field mer and as the
night went on, that field meter started slowly gradually gaining

(31:54):
a positive charge and really, the room should have stayed
fairly neutral, and I know that that doesn't mean a
lot unless you study electrostatics. But the room was becoming
charged somehow, and so it's kind of like when you
rub your socks on the floor, you're building up a

(32:15):
charge on your body, and then when you touch the
doorknob and boom, you get the spark. So that is
an example of a charge building up, and a positive
or negative charge is not meant in terms of good
or bad. It's almost like north and south poles of
a magnet. They're just opposite kind of polarities. So there
was a very curious electrostatic charge that was building up,

(32:37):
and that could have a connection to it to the
things people have encountered there. I don't know. I wish
I could tell you something creepier than that, but I
will tell you that that next night. Maybe if you
like that Adam Sandler Halloween movie, I think it's got
a hoobie Halloween or something like that. Adam Sandler was

(33:00):
doing a comedy tour, a live comedy tour, and his
last spot, his last stop on the tour, was right there,
not too far from the Golden Gate Hotel at another
hotel called the Fountain Blue. On the next night, Saturday
Night at you know, Saturday night there in November the first,

(33:20):
and so Lauren and I we had great tickets and
we went and we saw Adam Sandler live on stage,
and he brought out other surprise comedians David Spade, Rob Schneider,
Kevin James. It was a very special occasion because his
wife and daughter were there and he was celebrating I

(33:43):
think his daughter's birthday. Adam Sandler actually announced live on stage.
Hey just found out the Dodgers won the World Series.
But it was a great show, you know. It was
really a fun time. And that's the thing when people
come to Vegas, it's like all roads lead to Vegas

(34:05):
because there are so many interesting shows. And my sister
Jessica decided that she wanted to come here and celebrate
her birthday in November here in Vegas, and so she
came here along with her fiance Andrew, and then our
great friends mister c Eric Scott and Forrest Connor. They

(34:28):
came in from all parts of the country and we
had just a whole series of fun events plant and
one thing that Jessica wanted to do was go to
the Sphere, which is this gigantic dome that is illuminated
that sits here in Las Vegas, in the middle of everything,

(34:51):
and they have amazing shows in there. You go inside
and it's very, very steep seating, and then you basically
see this. I think it's like the largest led screen
of its kind of the world. I mean, it's like
you're surrounded by visuals and the audio is so impressive

(35:12):
there that they can shoot the volume directly at you
and pinpoint you so that if you speak Chinese and
I speak English, they can broadcast English to me and
Chinese to you and we won't hear each other's audio.
Isn't that insane? But they've been doing this show there
called The Wizard of Oz. You may have heard about this,

(35:33):
where they've remastered The Wizard of Oz. And when you
go there, they show you like a forty five minute
version of the movie and it's interactive and so like
when the tornado comes, big fans are blowing and they
drop leaves down and little like fabric leaves are blowing everywhere,
and then at one point, foam apples fall on top
of the audience from the trees, and you know, It's

(35:57):
like you've probably seen something about this on the internet.
They made millions of dollars. The tickets are very expensive,
and so she wanted to do that. But I must
tell you, and yeah, it was impressive. I honestly, I
don't think that it was necessarily worth the hassle because
it's very difficult right now to get in and out

(36:18):
of the sphere. They have not figured out how to
get people in and out of their conveniently. Again, that's
kind of irrelevant to what I'm going to tell you,
because the thing that impressed me the most was that
at one point when the flying monkeys enter the storyline,
you look up and I swear to you, there are

(36:43):
five six foot tall flying monkeys that are just flying
all over the audience, all above you. I don't know
how many there were, there's probably like ten of these
or more. And it looks exactly like flying monkeys in
the movie Humanoids flying over the audience. And I was like,

(37:04):
how are they doing that? Zoomed in got some footage,
close footage. They had little drone rotors attached to their bodies.
These were so realistic. Then I saw that and I said,
how the hell are we supposed to analyze UFOs anymore

(37:24):
when they can create flying humanoids like this. Got to
take a break. When we come back, I have more
to tell you, I promise. I'm Joshua P. Warren. You're
listening to Strange Things on the iHeartRadio and Cost to
Coast AM Paranormal Podcast Network, and I will be right back.

(38:18):
Welcome back to the final segment of this edition of
Strange Things on the iHeartRadio and Coast to Coast AM
Paranormal Podcast Network. I am your host, Joshua pe Warren,
And this is one of those times when I wish
the show were longer, because there's no way I'm going
to get around to all the things I wanted to

(38:39):
talk about in this show. But that is what the
next show is for, because we try to bring one
of these out for you every Friday, so you have
to stay tuned for that. But can you imagine if
you walked outside right now and you looked up and
you saw a flying monkey over your backyard, You'd be

(39:03):
freaking out and you'd be contacting me saying explain this.
You might even have a picture and say analyze this.
And this is why we've gotten to the point now
where I just don't feel qualified to analyze any kind
of UFO or UAP stuff, especially if you just have
something like weird lights in the night sky. I mean,

(39:25):
your guess is as good as mine. There are things
out there that have have far transcended our ability to
properly analyze what's capable of flying around out there. But
that was impressive. That was impressive. But you know what's
funny is that you know the Wizard of Oz. I

(39:47):
recently was at a bar here and this bartender just
asked me out of the blue. She said, so, have
you ever seen the Wizard of Oz? And I said, yeah,
of course, I've seen the Wizard of Oz. Like nobody's
ever asked me that before. It's like duh, she goes, Well,
she goes, I talk to a lot of people in

(40:08):
their twenties and they've never seen the Wizard of Oz.
And I was like, really now, She's like inconceivable to me. Inconceivable. Uh,
I'm you know, almost fifty years old, so I've seen
the Wizard of Oz so many times. And then we
started talking about the you know, the whole thing where

(40:28):
you can play Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon
and sync it up with the Wizard of Oz. I
actually dug into the whole mystery behind that. If you
go back and listen to episode one ninety seven of
this show called Strange Things. That show is called Pink
Floyd and the Wizard of Oz. If you're interested in
that topic, go listen to episode one ninety seven. It's

(40:52):
all about that. But anyway, you know, the funny thing is,
after we watch The Wizard of Oz, I was talking
to the crew there to you know, Jessica and Andrew
and I think I guess it was Eric Forrest might
have been gone by them. But anyway, I said, you know,

(41:13):
when you watch the movie, you know, it starts out
where she's encountering her friends and family and all these people,
these characters in the neighborhood, and then the tornado comes
and she gets swept away, and then they kind of
recycle the actors from her neighborhood into these fantastic figures,

(41:33):
and then you know, when she comes back by clicking
her ruby slippers, then she's back with all these same
actors who she was just interacting with and fantasy Land
there oz And so I was like, look, do you
think that the story wants you to believe that the

(41:54):
Dorothy literally ended up going to an alternate dimension, like
an actual alternate place in alternate reality, and then came back.
Or was this all just sort of a fever dream
where she was taking all these characters from her community

(42:14):
and then you know, incorporating them into this dream and
they were The reactions were mixed on that. So I
decided to actually go back and buy the original book
by L. Frank Baum. I had a copy of this
when I was a little kid, but I don't really

(42:35):
remember a lot about reading. I know that Ruby that
Northy actually had silver slippers instead of ruby slippers. So
the book is called The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and
it was published in nineteen hundred September one, nineteen hundred.

(42:57):
And here's what I discovered when you start reading what
he actually wrote. In the beginning, Dorothy is just a
pretty common farm girl, and then a tornado comes and
she gets swept away, and she has all these crazy
adventures in Oz. Doesn't mention anything about the people she
meets in Oz, resembling the people from her real community.

(43:19):
And then at the end of the book, she clicks
her her silver shoes together and all of a sudden
she wakes up and she's on the Kansas Prairie, And
it says here she was sitting on the broad Kansas Prairie,
and just before her was the new farmhouse Uncle Henry

(43:39):
built after the cyclone had carried away the old one.
Uncle Henry was milking the cows in the barnyard, and
Toto had jumped out of her arms and was running
toward the barn, barking furiously. And then it goes on
to say aunt Em had just come out of the
house to water the cabbages when she looked up and

(44:00):
saw Dorothy running toward her, My darling child, She cried,
folding the little girl in her arms and covering her
face with kisses. Where in the world did you come from?
From the land of Oz, said Dorothy gravely. And here
is Toto too, And oh, aunt Em, I'm so glad
to be at home again. So you see, sure enough,

(44:21):
According to the original story, it was an alternate dimension.
It was an alternate fantasy, magical land. It was not
a fever dream. I guess I don't know who came
up with that idea for the movie. Maybe they thought
that somehow that would make it a slightly more plausible,

(44:42):
But no, I mean I think that pretty much answers
the question. The original intent was that she went to
another real objective land and had that adventure. So I
don't know if you find it interesting or not, but
to me, I think it's kind of an insightful an

(45:03):
insightful topic, you know, like trying to figure out the
way you should think about her experiences and adventures in
that story. Oh well, and then my sister is a
part of her birthday adventures. She wanted to go to
a place that almost seemed like another dimension. Have you

(45:24):
ever heard of the Valley of Fire State Park. It's
about an hour's drive from Vegas. It's a public recreation
in nature preservation. Covers forty six thousand acres and the
whole place Valley Fire State Park big dramatic craggy cliffs
and mountains and rock formations, and they're made of this

(45:47):
red stone, and when the sun hits them at just
the right angle, they shine so bright red and orange
it literally looks like the land is on fire. They
have used this in a lot of different movies. Viva
Las Vegas with Elvis, they shot a scene there. They
use it in a lot of movies where they want

(46:08):
to represent Mars. In fact, in the movie Total Recall
with Arnold Schwarzenegger, they filmed there and it was supposed
to be Mars. But one thing that I think is
very interesting, and I've mentioned this before, is that Trekky's
like to go to the Valley of Fire State Park
because that there was this movie that came out in
nineteen ninety four called Star Trek Generations. And in this movie,

(46:34):
Captain Kirk, and it's been a long time since I've
seen it, he does hand to hand combat with the villain.
The villain is played by Malcolm McDowell, who was the
star of a Clockwork Orange. Going back to Kubrick Films,
and Malcolm McDowell's character kills Captain Kirk. This is a

(46:57):
huge moment, and Star Trek kills Captain Kirk. The death
of Captain Kirk and Captain Kirk ends up being buried
on one of these big craggy domes. I can't remember
the exact one. Let's see, where is Captain Kirk buried? See,

(47:19):
I have too much stuff to talk about. Silica dome.
Silica dome. Captain Kirk is buried on Silica Dome at
Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, and so the fictional
grave of the fictional Captain Kirk is there, and so
people travel there from all over the world and they

(47:41):
pay their respects to Captain Kirk, just as though Captain
Kirk Captain Kirk actually is dead there. I'm almost out
of time, I will tell you this. I was trying
to teach my sister how to gamble. We went to
Oh where was it, I think it was Caesar's Palace.

(48:04):
We were sitting. We sat down together at a bar,
side by side, and I was teaching her how to
play Keno, and I said, you pick these numbers and
you bet this way. And I said, one of us
has got to hit a hand pay, meaning you know,
a jackpot. Says one of us has got to So
we sit there and we're having a drink, and then
ten minutes later, boom, she hits a jackpot. It's like

(48:27):
fifteen sixteen hundred dollars. They come out and they're giving
her the cash. Everybody's so happy. For about sixty seconds later,
I hit a jackpot. The bartender says, we've never seen
two people sit down and hit jackpots side by side
before crazy. All right, folks timed in the show. Here
it is the world famous good fortune tone. That's it
