What's it like to have a greatyear of hunting. Well, we're about
to talk to a guy who justhad that experience. It's Brandon Maddocks A
Silence Are Central here on Gun TalkHunt. Hey, I'm kJ, dedicated
lifelong hunter. Here. If you'vegot an interest in all things hunting,
you're in the right spot. Whetherchasing quell across the plains of Oklahoma or
in pursuit of belk in the backcountry of British Columbia, you'll always find

(00:23):
me on the hunt. All right, Welcome in Gun Talk Hunters. I'm
your host, kJ, and todaywe're gonna get a brief overview, and
I'm not gonna lie. We're talkingwith a guy who has had probably one
of the best years, maybe onrecord, I don't know, but he

(00:43):
has been all over killing stuff.Brandon Maddocks is Silence Are Central. Welcome
in. Hey, thanks for havingme appreciate it. Man, I'm so
jealous. It's really cool when youget to see your friends really succeed.
And I do consider Brandon a friendand man just an apps great guy.
But this episode is brought to youby Eotech, Rossi, Ruger, Timney,

(01:04):
Triggers and Range ready, All right, let's jump in, Brandon.
Silence are Central. Just give usa brief thousand yard view of Silence as
Central, because I know, likeour viewers are kind of chomping at the
bit for some hunting content, especiallyright now Turkey seasons ending in most parts
of the country. So Silence areCentral? What where win? Why?

(01:26):
Yeah? Good question. So Silencesare Central's licensed obviously in all forty two
states. So customers buy Silence herdirectly from us. We become your dealer,
and we manage all the paperwork forthe customer, and then we mail
it right to their front door. Most people are hearing that super quick turnarounds
atf is telling us seventy one percentof the background checks they do or approve

(01:48):
same day, so we're able tothings through very quickly. Yeah, which
is unique. I see online peoplecall it the Golden Age of approvals and
encourage people to buy more just toget approval quickly than you want another one
and then you want other one.So see that's where the see, that's
where the like conspiracy theorist in mecomes alive and it's like, what are
they up to? Like why whycouldn't this always be the case, because

(02:13):
I'm still waiting on a couple andChris Serno in our office, he like
we ordered him at the same time, and I kid you not, he
got his less than a month.Yeah, it's nuts. And the people
are getting them in forty eight hours. I mean we're here and all that
kind of stuff. Yeah, andso now's the time to actually go buy
Silencercentral dot com go check them outfor sure. But what's the quickest you've

(02:38):
heard? Uh, you know, the ATF told me they typically summon him
in Batchess for a whole day.So like if they get all the all
the stuff submitted, they get ona Monday, they would submit and then
typically they would hear back on aTuesday, so like about twenty four hours.
Good gosh. Yeah, I meanthere's no reason not to buy right
now. But and I know there'sguys out there going, well, I've

(03:00):
been waiting six months? Why ismine delaying? I think that's just you're
in that group. It's kind oflike me and my buddy, like he's
he's been waiting on one for sevenmonths or something like that. Yeah,
the stuff that comes in the doorfresh, I think they're getting out.
They're just they like there's like twoguys working in the background on the old

(03:23):
ones, going can we move upthe ones that are in the front,
because people like us up there.Yeah, And what happens is like if
they have to man review it atall for whatever reason, then that's what
takes longer. So it's typically like, if there's a fella in your state
with a similar name, similar dayto birth, or oh, Kevin Jarnigan,
you know who you are. Iknow you. You're out there,

(03:45):
you're in prison somewhere. You ruinit for all the other Kevin's absolutely,
seriously, yeah, there is thereis a Kevin Jarnigan out there that is
a ne'er Dwell, it's not thisone. Yeah, but yeah, they
do say twenty nine percent of theapprovals they go through they have to make
an interview because something like you're saying, really nine percent? Yeah, So

(04:06):
see it's not it's not just you, it's the other you that's getting you
in trouble. Uh So, what'swhat's the hot cellar right now? You
know, we're mostly focused on thehunting market, So it's say that a
banished backcountry just that five and ahalf inches long. It's still my favorite
it's stupid light. I mean, that's hunting. That is definitely the most

(04:29):
popular, right, Well, Isay that's my favorite, but I but
you brought in one today that it'sa new favorite. Yeah, like the
speed K, which is a newcan but you brought in an even newer
one. Yeah, the full Titanversion. So yeah, yeah, like
eight point six ounce it's like crazylights, super light. And it's it's
short. Is you guys nicknamed itthe two by four? Yeah, that's

(04:51):
what internal name is, wide fourinches long. I mean that's and it's
incredibly efficient, is what I likeabout it. But yeah, the lighter
version is is absolutely amazing. Butyou're not gonna be disappointed if you've already
got a speed K on order andyou haven't, you know you haven't,
I guess gotten it yet. Don'tfret. You're gonna be very happy with

(05:15):
what you bought. I think that'sthe most important thing because it's just as
efficient. Yeah, just as good, totally all right, So let's start.
Let's start in Canada, and thisis a hunt. This is all
my top five a wolf hunt.Yes, and you had a little bit
better luck than most. Yeah,I almost sold guilty, which sounds you

(05:36):
should. You should feel guilty,Brandon, You absolutely should feel guilty because
like this type of luck happens toI guess you and my youngest son.
Like, oh, I was.I was in the stand for like five
minutes and a buck walked out andit was the exact one I wanted.
That doesn't happen to everybody, Like, come on, you're killing me here,

(05:59):
all right, walk us through, like I mean, if you don't
know the outfitter, but walk usthrough how this all came about and why
wolf? Yeah, so you know, I know the CEO at Federal Premium
Ammunition. He sent me some pictureswhere he shot some walls of this place.
It's called Crawford Camp. It's it'slike and I live in South Dakota,

(06:20):
so you just kind of goes straightup into Minnesota. It's kind of
right over the border there. Reallyit's basically a fishing camp. But you
know, he showed me the wolves, and I gotta go. So I
called it and got on their list. And you know the downside is you
can't use suppressor. So at firstI was like, okay, that's not
great. Didn't like that, butyeah, they basically I was the first

(06:45):
group for twenty twenty four that wentthrough Okay, and they were baiting them
and I think they had like sixlocations. They'll they actually drill a hole
in the ice and they put themeat in there and then they let it
freeze up. And then if there'sa lot of food for the animals and
they don't need it, they justcome by to check to make sure it's
still there. It's almost like real, Yeah, it's almost like the reserve

(07:05):
food pile. It's like their cashlike they okay, so so throughout the
ball there they're stockpile and you know, moose and roadkill and whatever they can
get their hands on. Totally, you know what I It sounds weird,
but I probably spent like three orfour months just buying stuff, like not
knowing. I mean, I know, I live in South Dakota, so

(07:26):
people assume I live in an Iglooalready, but I mean it's like like
you don't exactly just thinking about likethe different layers and there's so many different
choices for outdoor gear. You knowyou go with well not well you know,
so I literally spent I don't know, maybe six months like just buying
really yeah, just like trying tomake sure you have everything. And then
I drove up there, so Icould, you know, bring too much

(07:46):
and you is on a trip likethat, for sure you'd want to have
too much stuff. I got abuddy who's very well resourced himself financially,
so he's the one that can tellme, hey, this doesn't work,
you can have it, or heythis worked well, Oh I don't want
that. I don't want this stuffthat doesn't work. What's great is he
can give me good insight. I'mlike, all right, what are the

(08:07):
best shoes? What are the best? Like? You know, what did
you go with? I can't evenremember the name of them. They were
out of Italy or whatever. Theyalmost had like a thing crispy or it
was almost like like a turn thingon it to turn the tight en had
like a wire thro Oh yeah, yeah, I can't remember the name of
it. I should take some zamberling. Yeah. They were great. I

(08:28):
have some of those, perfect,I absolutely love them. Perfect. So
the Italian boots one thing that Inoticed, I don't know, you did
you size up? Yeah? Awhole size for more socks? What socks
did you go with? Boy?Whatever? My assistant found on Amazon.
It was like the wool liner. So yeah, I mean, you know,
it's funny because they told us don'tuse the heater unless you absolutely have
to, because we had the littleportable heaters in there with the real paying

(08:50):
tanks. But they're like, we'rejust afraid it could create more smell out
there and the wolves are super sensitive, so we intentionally didn't use it.
Didn't use the heater I did.I mean, well, you didn't have
enough time to turn it on.True, Come on, that heater have
been fired up, because you're talkinglike negative forty degrees. Yeah, like

(09:11):
that's no joke and so serious.Did you go out in them? Like
what time did all this take place? I mean, is there at a
certain time or did they drop youoff in the dead of night and go
we'll see you back here when it'sdark. Yeah, pretty much way it
worked. So of course they're onyou know, they're basically on a waterway
there, so it was we usesnowmobiles to get out across the water and

(09:33):
they obviously put you in the blindbefore light and add some more bait to
it, some fresh base, okay, And then you know it's hard because
the first I'm like, okay, like where's the actual baypile because it was
still dark. Oh yeah, andI want to make sure I could see
it. But then by forty fiveminutes before light, just kind of sit
there and wait and literally by yourself. I bet that was eerie because because

(09:56):
it's there's there's a difference when you'rehunting, you know, h a deer
or a white tail or you know, name your biped, But when you're
hunting something that's predatory and that youknow is is on the top of the
food chain. Man, there's adifferent feeling when you're by yourself. Yeah,

(10:16):
I know that when I'm hunting beerlike that. There's just a different
feel to the hunt. Yeah,I would agree, because I've done a
lot of deer last year, andI had always had somebody typically with me.
Oh yeah, because I want tomake sure you don't shoot something they
don't want you to shoot with atag in its ear, you know,
hanging off too small or you know, oh that one's too big or breed
or whatever. So but yeah,it was different there by yourself, and

(10:39):
you know, you're trying to getacclimated. Okay, you're kind of wearing
not to make any noise, youknow. Yeah, almost like don't breathe
unless you have to. It's justsort of like this like intense feeling that
if you screw up, you canscare them off. So and then just
you know, as like any blindtrying to make sure you have the position
right, you know, getting yourbipod set up so that you make sure
you're in the right position and gettingready. But yeah, by daylight,

(11:00):
I saw one and shot it anduh it done like that's And then I
text the guy and I'm like, hey, I read the guide you can
get too, and he I said, well, you only bought one tag.
I said, you better buy anotherone in case I see another one,
And literally you bought it, andthen it's like another one showed up.
You gotta be kidding. Yeah,So I shot two with him,
really twenty minutes a daylight. Yeah, no kidding. That was that was
great. I mean, like Isaid, you feel a little guilty because

(11:22):
he got the rest of the weekwhere the guy went with on college's buddy.
He's sitting there. He had toman it out all the way through
the end. The last day heshot his this was much bigger than mine,
so I get it to him forYeah, it was big. Oh,
Yeah, this was big. Theyget they get monsters. I mean
they I mean we're talking like onehundred and fifty pound type stuff like that.
When that stretched, you know, from six foot all the way down,

(11:45):
like just holding them. Oh yeah, it was fun. So I
could say that, like of allthe posts I've ever put online, that
got the most likes, I couldtell everyone's like, oh, this is
a bucket, Oh this is thebest it is. Oh, I've done
this for years, and I guessI don't think I realized that until after
I posted. I was like,I know, you don't really how lucky
you are, or like, youknow, if you've got a great piece
of property and then you you likeyou're leasing it and then all of a
sudden you lose it and you're like, and that was a good lease,

(12:09):
Like that's you look at it andyou're like, yeah, that was that
was a good time. Like andthat's how I think anybody who goes out
there and they shoot a big grizor they shoot a big horn or or
anything like that, Like it's like, I don't know if you realize what
you just did. And they're likeI just went up, showed up twenty
minutes and had it done, Like, wait, you shot two? That's

(12:31):
like my uncle. So he liesup in Canada and he's always like,
you know, come up and hunt, and you know you will try to
get your own wolves. When hesays the best time to hunt the wolves
is February, like end of February, like when it's the coldest. Yeah,
that's when they're really moving. Andhe keeps inviting, Man, I
need to go, but I'm like, man, it's just it's so tough

(12:54):
to get there, like cause it'sall the way up into British Columbia.
I mean it's we're maybe two hoursfrom the circle, you know, so
when you start getting up that far, it's just more difficult to get up
there. And it had not honestlybeen that cold at least this year up
in like South Daota North Kota,Minnesota. So I was worried that we
may not see anything because it hadnot been that cold. Even part of

(13:16):
the water wasn't frozen. So wehad to you know, sort of skim
around in different areas that we've normallygone to. But yeah, we were
lucky. Yeah it sounds like yeah, I mean it sounds like I mean,
being the first group I would guessyou'd rather be the first group in
and they've been baiting them and sothere's no pressure on them and then all
of a sudden you get in therethe stand. That's what typically what it
is, this first sitting a goodin a stand typically the best time.

(13:37):
Yeah, yeah, fun. Imean, see my uncle and he always
talks about he sends me these pictures. I'm like, you gotta be kidding
me. Like he shot three onetime out his out of his cabin,
like the window, the second storycabin window. He was like, you
know, I was sitting there andI was I was watching and I was

(13:58):
like, oh, yeah, thatlooks that's a wolf. I'll shoot it.
And he, you know, walksupstairs, got his cup of coffee
and I'm like, come on.We sets his coffee down and sitting there
and he's like, you know, there's no there's a couple of them.
And my uncle he is a greatstoryteller. He's way better than me because
I'm going to butcher this story andwhen I say it, you're not gonna

(14:22):
believe it because yeah, and he'sshooting a three hundred wind mag that's his
favorite favorite Carter's is shoot and Iforget what bullet he was shooting. But
he was like, you know what, I shot. I shot twice because
I thought I missed the first time, and so he followed up a real
quick shot, and he goes,I went over there and there was three

(14:43):
dead wolves. I was like, you got to be kiddne me three.
I mean, and these were bigwolves. You know. There was a
beautiful black one and a gray andlike and like almost white, but like
he got almost all three phases andof beautiful wolves. Oh wow, right
outside his window. And he wentback to drinking his coffee. But yeah,

(15:05):
come show up. It's amazed.Three wolves. Good gosh. Man,
just so frustrating. So what pieceof gear would you probably say helps
you the most. You can't saygun or optics. Yeah, no,
that's fine, I get it.You know, let me think about that.
Like, I don't think i'd everthought about the concept of like double

(15:26):
air gloves. That was helpful.Oh yeah, you know you feel like
you had a glove on it toput another glove over it almost like admit,
I think so the gloves you couldkeep your fingers together and then the
mid over it. That was good. You know, it didn't really use
me those handwarmers, but I thinkobviously those sometimes can man say I would
have had those everywhere? Oh yeah, everywhere. I'd have had the sticky
ones on every part of my body. Yeah, but I would say I

(15:48):
bought some stuff since then too, like some more wool type gears almost like
you like full like pants. Ihad had different layers, but I don't
think I had planned it out wellenough. So I am going back again
in January this year. So,oh you are, I'm on the standing
list. I mean it's like everythingexpensive to go there, and so really
yeah, I mean twelve hundred bucks, I mean, wasn't that bad?

(16:11):
Yeah? I would so I waslike, that's heem was pretty cheap.
That's reasonable. That would be thatwould be more than reasonable, honestly,
because if you look at like travelcosts and everything else to have to close,
it would be easy. And youdrove. And he's more into the
deer, so he wants to beable to protect his deer population. So
he's just trying to again that's agood idea, get enough hunters up there,
so it's not he's mostly a fishcamp, so he's not like trying

(16:32):
to make money. Yeah, no, I'm definitely gonna. I think I'd
go over here. It was agood hunt. I just I got to
figure out what I'm going to do. I probably didn't plan well enough.
If I'm truly there for a fullweek nothing to do, if I don't
shoot one, yeah, what wouldyou have done? Then? I don't
know, because we'red out great. When I'm in the thing, I was
just doing work trips and but yeah, if I'm not, I don't know.
I have to get some audio booksor that would be my worst fear

(16:53):
is I would get too much ofthat stuff. So I think you went
in with the right attitude of like, okay, this is what I got,
is what? Because if I startloading myself down with that, I
feel like, and I always saythis, like technology has made us worse
hunters because we're always too worried aboutyou know, what's what's in our ears
and everything else, and we're like, oh, yeah, I'll just listen
to this audio book and then allof a sudden you're sitting there daydreaming,

(17:15):
and then all of a sudden wolveshave come and gone, and yeah,
because they're not they're not like staythere, stay around for like two hours,
I mean like seconds Yeah, that'swhat they weren't me, Like,
you can't not look up and youcan miss them. So you got to
really be a game under game allday. Yeah see, I've heard the
same thing is you've got to belike super dialed in and like focused and
to do that for an entire day. That's why your buddy, that's impressive

(17:37):
that he got his on that lastday, because by the last day you're
just like, this ain't going tohappen because they don't move you around.
Oh they recommend it. I meanthey would if you ask, And they
said that was sort of a flawthat most people that try to move around
and end up it doesn't work. But they do have cameras so they could
say, hey, last night theycame in, so there's a chance they
could come back. Or yeah,so they were. And these are two

(18:00):
guys that kind of merged operations.I kind of feel like they really do
what they're talking about. They sortof shared knowledge to it's fun. Man.
That's well, all right, okay, all right, enough a wolf
hunting, because we're gonna get ontosome more hunting here in a little bit.
But I'm gonna take a real quickbreak and let you know about a
couple of great sponsors that we have. I'd love to thank our sponsors,

(18:22):
Eotech, the Voodoo X that's thenew one, that's what they're all talking
about. It's a second, secondfocal plane optic. It's dedicated to the
hunter, and I'm in love withthe scope. It's a two to twelve,
so it's kind of hits that likeperfect in between range. It's not
a three to nine, it's nota one to ten, like you kind

(18:44):
of get the best of all worldswith this thing. And I'm honestly,
I'm looking at it right now andit doesn't surprise me a bit out of
stock, so that that's these thingsare starting to fly off the shelves.
Overall length only twelve point six inchesthirty milimeter two ejective diameter is forty milimeters

(19:07):
and it does have a power sourcea CR two zero three two to get
a lit radical on that and Iknow there's some states that don't allow lit
radicals. Shame on you, guys. It's it's very handy, but yeah,
this is just a good all aroundhunting scope. This is something that
I took on an l hunt, absolutely loved it. But you can find
your next Eotech at Eotech Inc dotcom and Rossi the R ninety two.

(19:33):
My favorite is the Triple Black fortyfour mag sixteen inches. Okay, So
why there's a few reasons why youmight buy a gun like this. Hunting
is absolutely one. Protection is another. But in a hunting application, in
a lever gun, what I'm lookingfor as I looking for something that's handy,
that is reliable, and it justfeels nice, and the Triple Black

(19:59):
for me, looks the part. It's got to pick Tenny roll up top
and I'm telling you, they're accurate, and they don't kick, they don't
break the bank. They're just niceto have around. And if you're looking
to kind of take it back toold school, I think you've got to
look at something like this. Andthe R ninety two series as a whole
from Rossi really has that. Theyhave the the if you're the Triple black

(20:26):
like woodstock, if they if youwant a more traditional look to it,
with the you know, the theblingey like satin finish or anything like that,
they've got it. And for ahunting application, especially like a brushgun
or a truck gun or something likethat, man the R ninety two is
rockin Rossiusa dot com Ruger. Allright, man, I've said it before,

(20:52):
I'm gonna say it again. Ilove the American Gen two that they've
produced. They've offered them in Ranchrifles. You know, your regular configure
as your Predator rifles, and thatPredator comes in like I mean, it's
like six millimeters two O four sixpoint five creed More three oh eight uh
splider, finished stock, it's gotlink, the pool adjustment comb, height
adjustment box, magazines, pickrail ontop, spiral, fluted barrel, Sarah

(21:18):
Coote finish on the Predator models. What else do you want? And I
mean, these guns are shooting subma, so I don't know where else to
go with this. I'm just gonnatell you go to Ruger dot com and
find your next American Gen too, because these suckers shoot and Timny triggers.
If you're looking for your next Timnytrigger, I would highly recommend something easy

(21:41):
to install, especially if you planon doing yourself. I mean you could
give it to your gun smith oryour buddy down the street and they could
do it for you for an upcharge of who knows one hundred hundred and
fifty bucks but if you want tosave a few bucks, these suckers are
that easy to install, which Iwould put that more towards AMO. Maybe
like put that one hundred, onehundred and fifty bucks towards Ammo. Maybe

(22:02):
a shooting class at range ready Studiosdot com. But seriously, find your
next Timny trigger at Timny Triggers dotcom new upgraded website. So I'm gonna
just say that too, because it'sit's really cool and range ready Studios dot
Com if you if you don't knowhow to press a trigger, it's it's
definitely a good place to start. There are a lot of schools out there.

(22:25):
We just want you to get goodtraining, and we would love it
to be with us. But classesare getting updated all the time, So
feel free to jump onto range readyStudios dot com to find your next class
because I'm telling you right now,whether it's a pistol class or it's a
carbing class that we offer, oran experienced class, because we offer all

(22:45):
of those, it's gonna help youbecome a better, better hunter. Because
I see it in my shooting whenI press that trigger, I've got to
ask myself, what did I seeand what did I feel something that's set
around here often because if I'm notseeing that shot, whether it's in a
competition, whether it's on the range, or whether it's in a hunting application.

(23:08):
If I don't understand what I saw, how can I make an educated
like guess as to which way thatanimal ran or how that animal reacted.
I don't see that shot, seewhere it went. And you're gonna learn
little stuff like that that helped carryinto the field. So find your next
class at range ready Studios dot com. All right, welcome back. We

(23:33):
were talking with Brandon Maddox the SilenceA Central. We just got done talking
about wolves. So if you justjumped in, you're gonna have to go
back because this might be the luckiestguy ever who ended like what probably a
thirty ish minute hunt and two wolves. Yeah, after light came up,
Yes, about five minutes. That'sridiculous, and he had time. So

(23:57):
I guess that's one thing that Iwas gonna ask you, is the second
wolf came a little bit after. Was he kind of hanging out on the
fringe and then came in or wasit like, hold on a second,
what just happened? And I've gota buddy over here laying down. Yeah,
like was that kind of what itwas? Yeah, it's a good
question because you know I could usethe suppressor because it was Canada. So

(24:17):
I tried to shoot from inside theblind to sort of trap the sound like
almost the blind was the mitigator, which oh yeah, was louder for me,
but my goal was to sort ofsuppress the sound. So my hope
is that's what the second one maybedidn't even hear the shot. Okay,
he used to two fifty seven weatherbe So really that's interesting. I would
have thought I would have guessed acompletely different cartridge. Okay, So the

(24:40):
next hunt, was it the oddAd or the trans Caspian Urial? You
know I did both of those inthe same hunt. Well there you go,
yeah, two in one. Yeah, well what were those hunts like,
because that's that's more like West Texas, right, Yeah, you know,
the odd Ad was interesting. SoI just had a friend who lives
in town text me and say, hey, you know, I just bought

(25:00):
a jet and we could leave. He's like, he's like, we could
take my jet Friday, like Thursdayafternoon, and we'll fly direct there and
we'll hunt until we all get one. My son and you'll go and I'm
like, God, how do youturn that down? I've been one.
I need new friends? Yeah, because I really need new friend is the
hard part about West Texas. Typically, if you fly in somewhere, you're
still three or four hour drive.Oh yeah yeah, because when works on

(25:22):
out there, it was like that. It's like oh yeah, but no,
this was perfect. So I'm like, yeah, I'm in gee.
Yeah, so it worked out reallyflew into probably Marfa. Yeah, we
landed right there and that's where weaunded. Good gosh there, I could
believe there was a landing pad rightthere right there. Yeah. This guy
was a lot of restaurants in town. So yeah, cool, geez,

(25:45):
that's perfect. I need it.Either I need to be the friend or
I need new friends, because Ido not have friends calling me and saying,
hey, I just bought a jet. Let's go hunt somewhere. Yeah,
that'd be the great, that'd begreat. Uh, what are you
gonna buy a jet because we're friends? Right, yeah, there you go.
Yeah. It surprised me at firstbecause I saw the invoice and they

(26:07):
bought four spots and there was alreadythree of them, so I thought maybe
someone dropped out yeah, but Idon't think so that's awesome. So was
the plan to go and shoot aUriel and an odd Ad or was it?
It was just all Dad, andwe're fortunate that they had a lot
of exotics there, so you cankind of pick whatever you wanted. Yeah,
but you know, it was interestingwith the odd Ad because I was

(26:29):
shocked how many they had there atthis ranch. I mean, really,
gosh, I mean thousands. Really, it was insane. It was like
shocking how many. I mean,so a lot of ranches in Texas are
are high fence, and there arelike, I mean anywhere from forty acre
high fence all the way up toten thousand acres high fence, which when

(26:52):
you start get talking like thousands ofacres high fence, it doesn't really matter
that much, I mean, becausethey can go wherever they want, and
they're usually not going to go anywhereoutside of that boundary anyway. Yeah,
I understand is they had twenty thousandacres high fence. But the part with
those, a lot of those weresort of free range just because it was
such there's so many of them, you didn't even have to have a fence

(27:15):
or anything to just really I thinkthe benefit was it backed up to some
maybe national park areas or something,so they're coming off the parks. Okay,
so there's just tons of that. It's just the terrain they like.
Yeah, and they were putting alFoulfoult to keep because they said they have
to cull a lot of the femalesand the really yeah, just because they
have so many to just have takenover there. But no, it was
great. I mean the hard partwas like there's so many, it's like,

(27:36):
how do you figure out which oneyou could get cross enough to to
see how big it was, tomake sure you weren't shooting, because they're
pretty scared little critters. I mean, they have great eyesight and they excellent
They see it and they go,yah, we're gonna go over here because
it doesn't take them long to getit A long way away totally. So
what one? What gun? Wereyou using? Cartridge and walking to the

(28:00):
hunt? Yeah, so I usedto three on a wind mag for that
one. And you know, basicallythe whole the first day were kind of
scouting like okay, let's if wesee a monster, will go for it,
but let's see where's the you know, sort of the group of the
biggest ones. It's kind of coolto see the train out there. It's
so different just around. And soonce we finally found an area that we

(28:22):
liked, we said, okay, let's let's try to identify one. And
I was basically relying one hundred percentof the guys. It's like because to
me, they all have to saythey all they all got the curved horns
and they all look good, like, okay, totally, it was tough
for me to tell. So andthen sometimes, you know, with some
of the group we were waiting on, we were out there for hours because
they kind of laid down in thesun and they're just kind of chilling and

(28:45):
it's kind of cash. We wantthem to get up and move around.
And so finally we you know, dropped one. I think it was like
two hundred fifty yards and nothing. That's nothing too crazy, you know it.
I think it was, you know, maybe not as big as I
wanted, but I think it wasstill you know, fairly big. So
always ask yourself, like, isyour first one a good representative because you're
going to go back you know, yeah, he has a jet like not

(29:07):
Brandon, but his friend has ajet. Yes, totally mean probably want
to go back to you want togo back. I mean, and that's
when you go. That's my goalon every any first animal that ever shoot.
Is it a good representative of thespecies. Yes, yeah it was.
It was good and it's good.Yeah, it worked out well.
So really, like within the firstI don't know, because we got there

(29:30):
in an afternoon, right that wesort of scouted in the next day,
So really within twenty four hours ofgetting there, you have one. All
of them had one. Gee,yeah, you're all luck continues. Yeah,
No, it was good. Imean, this was a target audience.
Yeah, but then you know,of course, to their benefit,
they had all kind of you know, anything else essentially exotics that you wanted

(29:51):
to shoot. That's that's what's coolabout hunting in Texas is because you never
know what you are going to see. Really, I mean, there are
I've driven by, driven out thatway, and you know, you're driving
through you see all these high fence, and then you see a draft,
like like what the heck how andthen you like go a little way and

(30:11):
then you'll see like a three hundredinch white tail and you're like those shouldn't
be in the same area. ButI don't somehow they are so but yeah,
that's that's incredible. So they howthe ural come about? You know?
Well, basically they asked me,you know, are you interested in
something else? And I'm like, yeah, okay, we're here for two
more days. I might as wellpull out the menu. Yeah, exactly

(30:32):
what you got. Yeah, let'ssee to the draft. No, yeah,
totally. They said they had somereally older ones, so I was
like, okay, let's let's checkthese out. And they're beautiful. Yeah,
we found it. It was likeit was literally like it's either six
or seven hundred yards. I meanwe actually video TV shooting it through the
scope. Oh I did see that. Yeah, so it was a great

(30:52):
shot. I don't want to taketoo much credit because my guy did a
good job of saying, Okay, here's where, here's how far you are,
here's the ballistics of the bullet. So he did a good job downing
it all over for me. He'slike, you just got away from to
stop one enough to shoot him andeye it was a squirt. I mean
the video dropped immediately and at sixhundred yards. If you're not doing that
either on the regular or have someonewho's walking into it, and and really

(31:15):
have I'm sure you had a firmrest. I mean that makes everything,
is your firm foundation on a rock. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it
worked out really well. Really.I think it was just kind of cool
to have it through the scope tobe and have a video with on the
phone you could see it. Yeah, no, that was cool. And
then I don't think I realized howfarther we wast so we walked up the
mountain. They don't live in flatground, like they just don't. Yeah,

(31:37):
like six hundred yards straight up thatmount I was like, wow,
I'm gonna die crazy. It wasa great shot. I mean that was
because I remember that now that yousay that as I remember because it was
he was facing to the left,he was facing the left, and I
remember him like you could see itbecause as hunters like you sit there and

(32:00):
we all play this game and don'tlie. If you're listening to this or
you're watching this, don't lie.You play the Okay, I would take
the shot right there. That's thethat's the point. And we all play
that game because like anytime an Anawalks out, you're like, okay,
now's the shot. Totally and thatthat Uriel did, that is because he
stepped that front leg forward, whichexposes all those vitals, and Brandon put

(32:23):
it right on him. And thatwas cool because I was like, now
and that you start sure enough, you see the bullet, the vapor trail,
kind of going cool, this isjust amazing. All right, we
want to I want to touch homeone more before we get out of here.
And it's one that it's I thinkit's on my fringe top five things

(32:45):
to do on how to hunt. It's the helicopter hunting for hogs. Yes,
should it be in my top five? Man? Why? I think
it's just such a unique experience.I mean, it's almost hard to articulate.
Yeah. I think we were allsitting around. I went with like
three other guys. They're all lobbyiststhat we use up in DC. Some

(33:07):
of them were with the conservation groups. But we all were like, we
know it's gonna be fun, butwe don't know what it's gonna be like.
But then after you get doubt, you're you've never done that before?
Oh no, none of us had, so it's oh my gosh. Yeah.
It was almost like it's sort oflike we didn't know what to expect.
But once we got done, we'relike, oh my gosh, that's
like the coolest experience ever. Yeah, it's just just the whole helicopter thing.

(33:28):
I mean, you're strapped in,so you don't feel like a safety
strapped in are. You got aseatbelt on. Just a seat belt,
that's it. And so you gota pilot here, and you got yourself
and another person in front, andyou got a rail where you can put
your you know, kind of footon. And then unfortunately this this company
uses all of our Banish two twothree, so we trade, yeah,
we trade aming it, we trade. We basically trade silencers for you.

(33:51):
And I've been given them a lotof silence over the years, and they're
like, you gotta come. Butno, it was great. It was
great. To mean, the pilotwas great. Basically, you got three
sets of eyes, you know, all looking for hogs and there's a lot
of They said they have a millionacres that they hunt on. They only
go once every six months to thoseplaces. But the goal is obviously to
try and find spots with a lotof hogs on them, not to over

(34:13):
hunt them. But oh not okay, yeah, some times in my mind
I'm like eradicate all oh total Yeah, but they want to make sure you
have a good experience. So basicallythis was a new site they'd never done
before. So the farmer shows up. It was a big, big plat
really, it was like twenty thousandacres. So we just started flying and
then you're you're looking for them assoon as you see one, and then

(34:34):
the pilot sort of dives down whereyou're like right over them, and you're
just yeah, it was cool. You know. We saw kyotes too,
and of course the farmers actually weremore interested kind of in the coyotes because
they killed the calves than the hogsthemselves, so they were really big on
shooting, like, shoot every oneof them. We're using Daniel defense two
two threes. They had a greatsystem. You could tell they keep them

(34:54):
well maintained, so they didn't haveany problems with jam and any issues hard
parties. We had brass catcher andyou're used to if you at least I
am, you flip your ar openand when you want to eject, when
you want to look at it,well that's the same way of course where
the bag is, so it woulddump it down. So yeah, it
was so hard to train myself. Then you jam, you have to flow

(35:15):
outward. You have to like dumpoutward and lean over and look. Yeah,
when you're putting a new bag in. Yeah, but no, it
was great. I mean, youknow, one situation as cool as uh.
I was like, oh man, there's some hogs of there. He
goes, well, that's unfortunately onthe other neighbor's land. He goes,
watch this. The pilot actually getsbehind them, drives the water. So
we have a whole family going acrossthe water. We just turned. I

(35:38):
mean, it was bad, butit was good. That's the problem is
huge ones. Oh I was justlike hitting all of them. Yeah,
so you gotta do negative lead soit's right on them. Yes, So
that's what I was afraid too, that you had to lead them. But

(35:58):
no, it's right on them.Yeah. Really you're so close. You're
probably thirty forty. Yeah, you'reright over them. So yeah, they're
that close. Oh yeah, they'relike just put it right in them,
don't don't. And some of them, you know, you felt like you
were leading a little bit just becauseof running. But the water they were
slower. But yeah, running sometimeswater they were slower. Those kind of
his shirt in the water they're slower, but typically the two two three.

(36:21):
You had to put a couple roundsone. I should have used something heavier,
but I think they were just familiarwith the operation of them. Oh
yeah, it's probably a little cheaperfor them. Yeah, Oh my god,
it's cool rolling them if you shootthem while they're running and oh yeah,
they're done. Shoot the shoot thehog. So the video that I
saw, I think I saw wasit was actually pretty thick terrain. Yes
it was. And so it's notlike you're catching them in open fields or

(36:45):
they're not always in water, right, but like that pilot has to be
dialed in. Yeah, and hedid say, hey, keep me up
to speed if there's power lines, just in case. I so, I
mean, in other words, he'slooking for him, but he's, like
I asked, looking for a verbal, you know, like if you see
a power line, you know,he gets up over it really far.
Yeah, you're right, so we'reflying. I mean they're also funny like,

(37:07):
hey, you know, no pointin the gun up because if you
hit the propeller, you're gonna crash. I mean, you could break that
thing. So it's all about keepingthe gun pointed absolutely, keep them pointing
in a safe direction. Oh yeah, tight operation. I'm telling you like
you're telling me, I've got tolook for hogs, shoot at hogs and
watch power lines like I'm gonna domaybe two of those halfway decent, like

(37:29):
you better be looking for power linesis one of them. Yeah, And
of course this is a rule area, and it was such a big plot
of land that was probably wasn't asmany power lines. But you know,
he's just like, hey, Iwant I need a backup set in case
I don't. But no, Iyou know, we did two hour like
increments like an hour and another group. When it's interesting is they said a
lot of people who come out thereit's their first time ever shooting or hunting

(37:52):
or oh really odd. Yeah itis odd. Why would they choose that?
I agree? I thought it wasinteresting. I did ask them of
all the groups you've had out here, who shot the most, like who
was the They said that they havea military special ops training group. That
that's what they do. They shootstuffrom helicocters, really and they let them
bring their own stuff. So forus, they made us hues and Spanish

(38:15):
two two three, But for thesehelicopter special ops people that do they let
them use their own equipment and theytwo hundred and fifty in an hour,
the three guys. I was like, man, that's impressive. That's some
shooting. I mean, but that'swhat they do, Like that's their practice.
I guess that's their practice. Geez. Yeah, well I would definitely
put that on your list to do, just because it's so unique. Just

(38:38):
being in the helicopter is kind ofcool. And having a gun. I
mean you feel, you know, get your man card back. Yeah,
get the man card back after Idrive into town with a Prius or something
like. That's incredible. Man,Like, Okay, I don't know what
I have to bump off though,that that's the problem. Like it's a

(38:59):
friend. Like so, we havea guy that every year he'll call me
and he says, hey, we'regoing to run the helicopter out there.
Can't we get permission to if hogsare on your you know lease or you're
laying can we run it? Andhe goes, do you want a spot?
And I always am like, man, it's just I would be able

(39:20):
to afford an hour because it's typicallylike I mean, it's like a thousand
bucks an hour almost, it's likeroughly what it is. And like for
me. It's like, is thatworth it? Which I mean obviously it
is, but I tell him everyyear, yes, absolutely, go and
kill every coyote you can because they'rereally they're looking for hogs, but coyotes

(39:43):
are kind of a bonus that theysneak out. Did you guys kill any
coyotes? You did? Yeah?Shot on the water across totally, don't
go near the water. What's interestingis the coyote, like the hogs,
as they hear they'll clock her, they take off just they're afraid. Songs
that you know, this is God'sall after them, But the just kind
of sit there and til you shootat them, unless you go, then
they take off. Then they gocrazy, so they run like their furs

(40:07):
on fire. Oh yeah, it'scrazy to watch. That's awesome. Well,
Brandon, thank you so much forjoining us. Like I love to
hear stories like this because it's it'sabsolutely incredible and it gives us something to
look forward to and something to kindof want to achieve. Well, I
mean, I've just been fortunate tohave the opportunity where like I said,

(40:28):
so man, these people we've traded, you have some pressors for or opportunity
for us Star test or maybe sponsored, and then somebody has to go.
So I'm like, man, Iwould love to have that up. Yeah,
Brandon sheepishly raises his hand. I'llgo, no one's gonna do,
no one's gonna say they want it. I'll go, absolutely good for you.
You should go on every single oneof them. Man, I love

(40:49):
it. And and he's got anotherbucket list that's gonna get checked off in
twenty seven. Yes, we'll revisitthat then. All right, you guys
know the drill. Keep those muzzlespointed in a safe direction and always be
on the hunt. M
