Speaker 2 (01:37):
Welcome back everyone. I'd like to welcome Cynthia Murray. She
is the founder of four Legs, which is quite a
unique company, as is Cynthia herself. Welcome Cynthia.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Hi, thank you for going back for having me on here.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Mr Chall, I'm so excited to have you on the show.
So tell everybody a little bit about yourself and then
how you came to find four legs our.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
Born deaf, I was the twin.
Speaker 6 (02:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
At the time, my parents didn't even know I was deaf.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
I was definitely born deaf because a lot of doctors
were said, if one twin talking or following, or just
the twin, you know, because one will talk and one wrote.
But I discovered when I was four, there's some test
(02:33):
in the beta.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
I was completely deaf, and I.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
Was sort of like, oh, the eye opener for my parents.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
My twin sister did all the talking for him. I
were cut.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, I had a helper. But I think you speak
very well, and I think amazing because not everybody knows
that when children are young, that's how they learned to
speak by hearing everything around them, by not hearing. I'm
getting goosebumps talking about them. By not hearing. It's a
(03:10):
very huge challenge.
Speaker 6 (03:12):
Was yeah, because my parents were told, oh, when I
discovered our adaptive said, oh, your daughter is never gonna
finish school. She's gonna never gonna live on her own,
never have a job, never be able to live my
parents that know that can't happen with my daughter. And
(03:34):
so they really put me and they made me so
independent and make it so I could achieve all of
that among everything else. And now I'm running a company.
So yeah, what's right? You show them?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
I mean, now, not only did you do all those things,
you're an entrepreneur. So yes, that's amazing. So four Legs
is also unique because you give back to the community
in that you hire, train, and educate adults and children
(04:14):
in the community that are deaf, part of hearing, artistic,
and possibly disabled in other ways. So that's a challenge
too in running a company. What made you decide to
make your company like that to give back to so
many that wouldn't ordinarily find jobs or have something to
fulfill themselves.
Speaker 7 (04:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
So when I started going out into the workforce, I
noticed it was very difficult to find jobs. And so
I've ended up being a educator for twenty one years
because I've struggled. When I was in school, I didn't
have it interrepreter, it's all I want to call it.
And we were like, oh my god. When I were
(04:58):
fine and it That's what they said. All they knew
that I was I loved with missing. I just didn't
know how much I was missing.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
And so.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
I wanted to become a par educator to educate parents
and their children and so they can get up be
able to achieve, just like I didn't. I didn't want
them to fall back. And so I also saw the
lack of jobs from what they graduate from high school,
(05:32):
all the autism, no diversity, down syndrome, learning disability, they
have a hard time finding work as soon as they
graduate from high school. So this is why I started
their company, not because I loved dogs and cats. I
loved my pet and I wanted to combine both of
(05:54):
my past and the drive to help other disabilities and
other minorities.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
So by combining that that why did not get back
to the community.
Speaker 6 (06:08):
And we also partner up with several different nonprofit organizations
like morning Side. It doesn't co op the school the
threat to have the stability to come into our workplace
to get one on one train and so they have
something on their resume, and that's really important to have
because nobody else is really doing that in our community.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
So no, I Abloige you for that because there is
not enough of that. And when you have an entire
company comprised of mostly of people with disabilities, it's definitely
a challenge. You would think people would be more accepting
and more opening, Yes, open to you know, it's a
little more training, a little more patience. But just because
(06:51):
you have you know, a disability or a handicap or
a blind handicap, it doesn't mean you cannot you know,
do things sometimes a lot better than people that have
no issues. They're fine. So let's talk about four legs.
Why did you start four legs?
Speaker 6 (07:10):
I had a service dog, he would have started about
service dog and he would have loaded to a lot
of the food that was out there if I wanted
to find something that were deod for dogs, so I
did a lot of research. I wanted to make sure
we had inguidion that had no preservative, no sugar or salt,
(07:34):
and they're all human grade and ingudient instead of feed.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Though there different bet when dog tweet.
Speaker 6 (07:40):
That have feed inguidient and dog that have human grades,
so we wanted to go with the human grade.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
And yes we're on a high end with our dog.
Speaker 6 (07:53):
Other ingredient that's really expensive we boy the organic pumpkin,
pay organic two potato, organic blueberry to put in our
products and our flower or organic. So we wanted to
miss that everything that we put.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
In in our product guilt for dogs.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
So it's very transparent. Why is it so important that
we need to watch what we give our dogs and
make sure that the ingredients are, you know, as natural
as possible. Human grade Because for some people it's like, well,
I don't know what to do. I mean, should I
buy just regular treats or should I really go for
(08:36):
more human grade? Because definitely, because there are no fillers.
Human grade is usually a little more expensive, but generally,
I know, ultimately healthier for your dog. What can we
tell our listeners that are like, well, you know, I
could buy one treat it's this much and other treats
a little more. What's the benefit for your dog?
Speaker 6 (08:58):
I think it's a huge brand a fair because I
think if you're buying a cheap dog, you're gonna allow
your dog to get sick. They're gonna have all these
alo dudes and sort of lifespan. And it's funny because
I find that people care for their pets more than
they do themselves.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
Because I really think that.
Speaker 6 (09:20):
I always look at ingodis what I'm eating too.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
I want to make sure I'm eating good too.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
There is a lot of junk food out there, and
it's so easy to grab, and it's like I have
all this definite that we shouldn't be eating.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
And that's how I feel. A lot of our customers
feel the same way.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
They want to give the dog the bath. And when
you buy our tree, you're gonna smell it and smells
so good, and we even eat it here because we
have to test it anyway.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
But it really does taste good.
Speaker 6 (09:55):
And what we do to keep the preservative is to
do fired.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Out, so it's human grade, so generally human grade, it's
safe for humans, but it's tasty for us because the
salt and the sugar's not there. But yours is even
good for people. They people find it palatable, taste.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
Out it if but we're not pushed out.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Okay, we won't push that dogs.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
He both for dogs.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
People laugh at it because you know we're taking it.
Oh dah, it's good. It's light out, you know and
all that, So yeah, it's funny.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Let your dogs. There's plenty of other treetes out there
for you. Okay, we're gonna take a break and we'll
be right back. Molly, here's your dinner. See that's not

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Let's talk past, let's done, pet Headline.
Speaker 7 (11:37):
Radio, petlve radio dot com.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Welcome back everyone. We're talking to Cynthia Murphy. She is
the founder of four Legs and four Legs was created
by Cynthia, who is a death entrepreneur for heard special assistance. Well,
how would I say that's your special assistance.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
Service dog service dog.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Yes, the here and dog open your service dog, oh
d yes, okay. So the let's also talk about the
ingredients because when I was doing my research on your website,
the ingredients are local. I mean they're not necessarily local
to where your your businesses, but they're all US based.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
Yeah, they're all you A based.
Speaker 6 (12:31):
And we like to support the local arm and small
businesses in the area.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
I mean we're talking, we're watching today.
Speaker 6 (12:42):
We have a lot in Oregon, Utah, California and Montana
that we buy a product from and it's really put
in a support the all the small and we also
have to mess there that the US the airproof and
after approved too before we can posit the stuff.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
And that's wonderful. So what dogs do you have? What
service dog do you have?
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Now?
Speaker 5 (13:09):
I don't have a service dog now.
Speaker 6 (13:12):
After the only pathed away, I decided that because when
you have a service dog, you can only have one dog,
no other pet. Oh, because I love pets on out
already really opened up my eyes.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
So I decided to rescue. Only want the rescue too.
Speaker 6 (13:34):
By the way, when the tournament to Service Dog down
a dog for the death is now called Dog for
Better Life. Yeah, they're missing if to rescue cell to
dogs and tournament to CULTI fide here and dog and
after that the great program we support them and yeah,
(13:54):
so I decided to rub the other dog and they
became my support dog. They knew how to allow me
to sound. I just couldn't taken places like a true
service dog, and I was okay with that. We love
to go camping and all that. So I've had several
(14:17):
dogs over the years.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
And then I ended up rescuing a death dog. He
couldn't hear wow.
Speaker 6 (14:27):
And I had to dog already, and I thought, you
know what would happen if I actually rug with their
staff dog couldn't find a home and he was then Virginia.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
So I had him blown all the way Wow, so
class the US and it was great. He fed in.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
He didn't even know he was different from the rest
of them. I think they couldn't hear it. So I
signed to him.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Wait, I understand sign language, Yes, well sign language not
just like dog language like stay and everything. He knew
other sign language too.
Speaker 6 (15:02):
Yeah, they dog had every there, but he knew a
lot of the world.
Speaker 5 (15:08):
I mean, he was so smart he was.
Speaker 6 (15:10):
That's a stray and he had no training or nothing,
so we were starting from craft. I even had to
tease him how to use the dog it door to
come in and out of the house.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
And it was so cute to see him do it.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
So I had him and I had a one of
Marosky pathway.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
I don't know it.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
So we thought, you know what, we rest do another dog. Yeah,
so we rested another deaf dog. Oh, we have two
deaf dogs along with Auburn, the hearing dog, and.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
But right now we have all three.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
I had all three.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Okay, so what is their favorite four legs tree?
Speaker 5 (15:54):
What that boy?
Speaker 6 (15:56):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (15:56):
You know what the boy? That's true? Now, okay, the
favorite the peanut butter malasses.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
Of course we call kitty Okay, you know how dogs
like to do The cat likes to do business in
their kitty box and the dogs love to eat it
after they go through. Well, we made a better alternative
and absolutely is acustic. And they aren't one of the
(16:24):
blueberry pancakes because they have a lot of blueberry and
it also have malasses like a syrup and that's becoming
popular as well.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
So yeah, that's their favorite.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
You know, I don't know if everybody knows this, but
pumpkin and sweet potato and there's probably more of the
ingredients that you use are actually beneficial to a dog's
digestive system.
Speaker 5 (16:50):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
So not only are your feets made with healthy ingredients,
they're beneficial for your burbabes because it helps their digestive system.
That does a lot of that will say sometimes rather
than going with you know, medicine and all this stuff,
give them an organic pumpkin exactly.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
Yeah, those are baby as well because they're awful small.
So a lot of people like to buy the pumpkin
and a tweet potato. Could they can go with any
type of dog that we have. If I know, big fruit,
we can break them easily build onto the smaller boots.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
So we're going to tell you where you can buy
four legs treats. But first, Cynthia also wrote a book
called For the Love of Dogs? What is your book about?
Speaker 6 (17:42):
The book about my grown up and why I started
their company. And I wanted to sell everybody because there's
so many dog treat company dot there and I wanted
to sell them. Why we did the what the purpose
that dot? In the copet and so by some the
(18:05):
history of my pack and it comes all the way
up to the where we're at now. So because I've
always had the entrepreneurial spirit working and finding ways to
make money when I was the kid and my neighbor's
next door, we always try to find ways.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
To help you earn money doing lives in that.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
And so this is a great story of telling how
I right to this moment.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
I'm glad you wrote it, and I'm glad you were
able to you know, learn about your journey. You also
partnership with Death Dogs Rock. Yes, so what is Death
Dog's Rock.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
Death Dog Rock is an organizations that goes out and
rucked you all the dogs that are death and they
were recorded. They would other state to try to find
recue that will take them and find home for them.
And so continually if the if the person who run
(19:11):
the organization without help and Quip and that's how I
found Dogo, you know. So that's how I blew him
up from poutin here. And she's also the one who
told me about Chip Chocolate Chip. He is the chocolate
lab if, which is very unusual. They have a chocolate
lab that is death and so we rough toed him
(19:34):
as all.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
That's interesting. There's there's certain breeds that deafness is more proponent.
What are there some of those breeds.
Speaker 6 (19:44):
Yes, some of the blue door, the white boxtars and
that what dog it was, and we'll talk about the merchant,
the blue Helo.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
There was a lot of heloes that are borned up too.
So it just a lot of the white dogs that
you see out there.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
If they have blue eyed or brown eyes, they turn
to have death not as well.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
