Speaker 1 (00:03):
The U two from Munos popped up the Seattle Mariners,
retired twenty three of the last twenty four and in
one hundred pitches, shut down the Blue Jays in Game one,
three to one, Seattle in their first Championship Series game
in twenty four years.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Pitching the story.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
All right, nine o'clock hour, Chuck Bow, Buggy, Jacobson and
Ashley Ryan with you and joining us here as we
talk some baseball. I know we normally do Monday morning quarterback.
We reduced that to one hour here on this Monday,
and so we talked baseball with our new insider, former
Mariner first baseman, and he's coming in without hat.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Look, how look how wonderful.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
As hair looks? I have conditioner this morning? Oh definitely, Yeah,
looks good.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Look sharp.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Ryan Healy joins us here on chugging back in the morning.
Good morning, sir, I'm oh man, I'm excited to be here.
This is boys, this is just sweating, just a little
bit of a comb over. There's nothing in there yet,
no moose, no moose. No oh yeah, it's good. Way
to rub it in, Healy, Yeah, I want to.

Speaker 6 (01:25):
Zoom call with two bald men. So I apologize.

Speaker 7 (01:27):
Maybe I should start wearing a hat more often, just
to keep the level playing field.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yeah, it's really uneven right now, very very uneven. This
is a mismatch, is what's taking place here? Uh all right,
We've got stuff talking about from yesterday, but I got
to get your thought. We haven't chatted with you since
that Friday game. I mean, what put that in perspective?
What did Ryan Heay think of that evening?

Speaker 7 (01:51):
A lot of stress, just proud as well, just the
tenacity and the willpower to push through. And that was
a game that wasn't going to be unfortunately you were
facing the best pitcher in the world. And I give
this team so much credit for finding a way to win.
If I wanted to be hyper critical, I could sit
here and pick apart a ton of negatives about striking
out twenty times in a game. But the bottom line

(02:12):
is they got they found a way to get the
job done. And the pitching staff unbelievable, Like this was
a storyline coming in the season and they were not
our strength all season, and we leaned on them heavy
in that game five, deciding the Alts, and they got
us to the CS and I feel like this has
been a well rounded, full team contribution series, not just
in the DS but also to start the CS, and

(02:34):
I'm excited the way that the manners are clicking right now.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
Obviously, Yeah, I mean that's one where you did just
enough to figure out a way offensively to pull that
thing out. But the way in which Dan managed the
pitching staff and the bullpen, and you're using as big
guys or the back of the end guys and then
going logan Logan and Logan not Loger Logan, Yeah, I

(02:59):
like as well. But then him and Bizarto and Castillo,
I mean just I mean it was almost worked to
perfection the way that it worked out. How impressed were
a year with Dan and the way that he used
those guys.

Speaker 7 (03:12):
Very very impressed. I thought he was going to be
more aggressive, but George Kirby made his decision really easy.
And there was an argument that you could have left
George Kirby in there for the fifth inning honestly, on
in the sixth and having him maybe intentionally walk Carpenter.
Carpenter was Barry Bonds that game, and maybe you intentionally
walk him and attacked you know, Torres on deck.

Speaker 6 (03:29):
But at that point.

Speaker 7 (03:30):
I felt like he executed this the way that he
loves to meaning starting pitchers straight to Spire, Brash, Moon NEOs,
and then from there it was all hands on deck.
And this shows a lot of just the character of
this starting rotation of you know, Gilbert want to go
to Bizardo, absolutely putting everything on the line going two
point two. That man, if there was an MVP for
that series, I'd give it to him for just pitching

(03:51):
it all five games. And it's his effort that he
gave us in that fifteen inning game. And then Castillo.
I thought I was going to see Castill earlier, earlier
in that game, but he came out, he filled the
zone up, he executed.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
Gilbert changed up his pitching style a little bit.

Speaker 7 (04:03):
It was a lot of breakers and splitters and sliders,
and he turned into a junk baller guy that throws
ninety eight one hundred miles an hour. He did what
needed to be done, and I was so impressed with
their ability to change their routines of what they normal
look like and say I'm gonna go out here and
execute strike one.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Former Mariner Ryan Healy has been with us throughout the postseason.
It's been great to have him aboard reacting to every
Mariner game that we've been on the air here Monday
through Friday, and he joins us here today. All right, Well,
let's jump then to Game one last night in Toronto,
a three to one win. There was a lot made
on the broadcasts and twenty four hours social media cycle

(04:44):
about how tired and how emotionally drained that this team
was going to be after that fifteen inning affair. Bucky
and I weren't really buying it. I think that they
could have floated to Toronto. I don't know, though, I mean, Bucky,
I haven't you know, hopped aboard a cushy charter flight
to Toronto and had a day off before the Alcs.

(05:10):
But I wasn't really worried about that. And your estimation
was that something to worry about? And did the Mariners
once again overcome a giant obstacle to get that victory
last night?

Speaker 7 (05:23):
I think, to the rest of the world, into the
rest of the league, giant obstacle. But for the amount
of miles of this team travels with the course of
a season, this is just another trip. We lead the
league in miles travel every single season, just because of
our location and where we go. Yes to chart the
charter flights. The private planes are wonderful. That's very comminating.
You're not gonna get the same sleep. My only thought

(05:43):
that I had during this Chugg and Bucky was how
much were they drinking on that Saturday night after the
fifteen inning game? Because they were they had minimal time
to recover before they had a long flight. I was like, boys,
pop every bottle of champagne you possibly can, but let's
maybe have two or three beers and let's shut it
down because we hes supposed the hydrate. Cal Rawley's legs
had to have been shot after that game. I saw
a quote of himing Dingler going back and forth, but

(06:07):
I didn't buy it. The amount adrenaline that these these
met are feeling right now in playoffs, and just the
excitement of what they did as a team to get here,
I had a feeling that how they showed up last
night was gonna be exactly that. I don't I can't
say I predicted the outcome, but Bryce Miller was locked
in executing and bounced back after that per first pitch
homer from Springer tremendously.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Yeah. Well, I mean Bryce Miller kind of the story
of it really when it boils down. I mean, there's
a couple of big stories there, but Bryce Miller just
the stones that he showed, knowing that you are to
some degree a little bit strapped with the way in
which you can use your staff, and to go out
there and have what was it twenty seven sakes pitches

(06:47):
or whatever in the first inning and give up that bomb,
but limit the damage even with a couple of walks
mixed in there, and then to just start mowing him
down the way he did. I mean, he's kind of
a cool hand loop type guy. Chuck uses the term,
you know, a Clint Eastwood type. He just kind of
feels like a gunslinger. And he went out there and
won the duel.

Speaker 6 (07:05):
Yeah, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
I don't think he had the season he wanted either,
And if I'm Bryce, this was an opportunity for me
to step up and say I'm the same guy. He
had a tremendous twenty twenty four season and maybe a
little bit of a down twenty five to his standard
of what do we see him do? But for him,
he got the opportunity to take Game one just because
of the way game five played out, and I know
he was licking his chops, saying, this is my shot
to show everyone improved, not just to them but to

(07:29):
myself that I'm that same guy. I can go out
there and carry this team. And I think he threw
seventy six pitches total, filled up the strike zone twenty
seven pitches in the first you said, Bucky, and then
he went what was it like nine eleven eight or
something like. It was ridiculous how he just filled the
strike zone up. He had so much confident, with confidence
with his fastball early in count he lean on the
splitter a lot late I think he threw back to
back splitters of Ladi had him uncomfortable after giving up

(07:51):
the barrel in the first inning. He caught barrels in
the first think there was two outs that were one
h two to five plus and then just settled from there.
But he wasn't scared of filling up the strike him.
That's what That's what got this team really going.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
That and then a cal Raley home run. I don't
know what it is about him and that Ballyard. I
don't know if the confidence came first and now he
just loves going there, or if there's just something about
that yard that just works with cal Raley's eyes.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Or you know, swagger or whatever it might be.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
But no runs at that point, and then he just
he touched off another bomb in Toronto.

Speaker 7 (08:28):
It's the power of a chip on your shoulder and
a guy that could and should be an MVP this year.
I know he has that quote that the manager for
the Blue Jay said postgame, if cal Raley's easy to
pitch to when you execute your pitches, well, guess what.
You executed some really good pitch yesterday. And cal Rawly
found a way to win and he had a really
strong at bat in the first inning and believe it
was a two strike knock and then the two to

(08:49):
two homer on the hanging split. That wasn't a terrible pitch.
It just ended up in the go zone of cal
Rally lowing in and that was the igniter. But like
this offense, had to be patient. Bryce Miller had to
hold down the fort for five plus innings for wait
for that final spurt there and then the boys scored
to that inning and you started to see it rolling
a little bit. But I gave a lot of credit

(09:10):
to Bryce Miller. And then Obviously, cal Rawley's showing up.
The way that he's leading this team right now offensively
is a big reason why they're here, not just in
the postseason, but also in the series.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Yeah, I mean, I asked you about Dan in that
fifteen inning game, and yet in the first inning there's
kind of a questionable no challenge there. I'm wondering what
your thought was on that. Mine was initially was Yeah,
I think he might have been safe, but I don't
know if it was clear and concise enough to where
they would have overturned it. That said, because of how
vast the difference would have been, have a run in

(09:41):
one fewer outs, still two guys on in the first inning,
and I think it's one where you maybe spend one
of those two challenges, And so, I mean, what did
you think about that? And now so, I mean the
idea of he was kind of blocking the plate before
he had the ball, which is against the rules, is
that something they could have challenged? He should he have
spent a challenge there, whether it would have worked out
or not.

Speaker 7 (10:02):
Now that it's all said and done, I'm gonna say yes,
mostly because you're allowing Gospein to kind of get in
the group there in the first sinning and having an
abrupt pause for him to take the time. You know
how long those challenges can take. I would have liked
to have seen one there. I didn't see the camera angle,
never panned over to the dugouts. I didn't get to
see what the engagement was between Dan and the bench
coach of when they were deciding if their interview or not.

(10:23):
But when they did the play in slow motion, I
felt like the broadcast spent more time on it than
maybe the coaching staff did, and when they really slowed
it down, it was so close. But we also know
how these re insur replays go. It's got to be
clear and decisive information to turn it over. I don't
think we had that, so we probably would have lost.
But it doesn't mean, you know, we don't take a
shot on a run scoring play in a playoff game.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Ryan Healley is with us reacting to yesterday's three to
one win in the ALCS over the Toronto Blue Jays.
He's also using his morning to on zoom with us
flaunt his advantage looks.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
And hair.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
That yeah, I know he's even got a you know,
perfect pearly white smile as well. Yeah, that's really cool,
real cool. Heally, yeah, thanks a lot.

Speaker 6 (11:09):
It's like, gast me up this one day.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
We thank you so much, like Shaq posting up Spudweb
and this hair battle.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
But that I got going on right now with Ryan.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
All right, so logan Gilbert, I mean.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
This is this is new territory.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
I mean it was different for him to throw two
innings of relief and yeah he got juiced up by
the crowd, as you might understand, and got to walk
in from the bullpen the other night.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
But now, on.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Two days rest, coming off of two innings of relief,
how do you think he reacts today in game number.

Speaker 5 (11:43):
Two against the Blue Jays.

Speaker 7 (11:46):
I think Bryce Miller or Bryce Miller sent the tone
yesterday like I don't I don't feel like he's stepping
into this game concerned or anything. I feel like he's
he's confident in not just his ability to execute against
this this offensive lineup for the Blue Jays, but he's
at this point boys like we're numb, Like we don't
feel pain, there is no soreness, it doesn't matter. Let's

(12:08):
rip it, let's go. I'm sure he's excited to throw
a few more fastballs this outing. I'm sure we'll see
that from him. But the way that the spin and
the splitter was working last Saturday was tremendous. The way
that he's gonna come out here phill the strike zone
up and we're if we can get him through five,
the work static.

Speaker 6 (12:24):
But he also knows we have have more depth behind him.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
Now.

Speaker 7 (12:27):
We did see Brian Wus on this roster. You know
the Luis Castillo is gonna be able to pitch. We
have four legitimate starting pitchers, probably five if we're arguing this,
and this is gonna be an opportunity for him to
go out there. The bullpen had an extra day rest,
so we have some cushion, but he's not thinking about that.
When he steps on that mound. He wants nine. And
I know that his side day ended up being two
innings in a elimination playoff game, and maybe that was

(12:49):
a little more high stress, but every day, every pitch,
every out is high stress in the playoffs, so he's
not thinking about that. I think we're gonna see a
quality logan Gilbert, the guy we've seen all season, and
I'm excited to watch compete tonight.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
I think so too. And yet I also think that
this offense that went out and scored whatever, you know,
forty runs against the Yankees and then goes one for
twenty eight after that leadoff home run in Game one,
I think they're going to be hungry. I think you're
going to be dialed. I think you're going to have
to make good quality pitches so that you don't run
into trouble early in big time trouble. And so when

(13:21):
it comes to this lineup, how much do you balance
the Yeah, Phillips strike zone attack, get them on their heels,
but also be a little bit careful because we saw that,
you know that last series, they can do some serious damage.

Speaker 7 (13:34):
That's been the conversational postseason because this team's motto was
win pitch one and then win the one one counts.
They're winning those even counts in the first pitch of
the at bats. That's that's big. That's the whole development
for the minor leagues, for the system of the Mariners.
There are pockets of this lineup where yes, you maybe
have to be a little more I don't even like
the word cautious, but executing to a really high standard.

(13:54):
At that point, I'm looking at Springer, Guerrero, Kirk Varshow,
yes or no, But I feel like you can keep
these guys in the yards. You guys saw a lot
of big swings from this Blue Jays team yesterday, right
like these boys were trying to do damage. I mean,
Luke's in the first inning was trying to leave the stadium.
Like he wasn't just trying to leave the yard. He's
trying to leave the stadium. And we have some guys

(14:15):
on our team doing the same thing. But it's reading
what the hitter is showing you India bat and then
making adjustments off of that. So for me, I think
Logan's stuff is so good that he can air on
the side of fill it up more than cautious, just
because he has weapons that he can use in different situations,
runners in scoring position, multiple guys, ducks on the pond.

Speaker 6 (14:36):
Let's be a little more cautious. I understand that.

Speaker 7 (14:38):
But if they don't win strike one, then they're gonna
have a really hard time getting to the really good
stuff that he has.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
All Right, last thing for you, and we'll let you go,
all right. I gotta get your opinion on this, because
both Bryce and Logan yesterday revealed that sometimes Cal comes
out to the mound for a visit and just stares
at them.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
He doesn't say anything.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
He just stares at them because they're messing it up,
they're monkeying it up, and then he just walks away.
You've been on a few meetings on a mound, third basement,
first baseman, coming in on the side. Have you ever
heard of a catcher coming out calling a mound visit
and not saying a.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
Word, just staring at his picture.

Speaker 6 (15:18):
I wish I could be surprised. I don't know if Cal.

Speaker 7 (15:21):
I don't think Cal has kids, but he has that
dad face when he comes out to.

Speaker 6 (15:25):
Look at the pictures.

Speaker 7 (15:26):
He's usually looking up at a lot of these pictures
just as they're monsters, and he just gives them those
eyes of like, you know, you know why I'm here.
You know I don't want to be here right now,
but you also know what you need to do to
not make me come back out here. So if you
don't do it, then we're gonna be fine. But if
you don't, I'm gonna see you in the tunnel and
we're gonna.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Have some words.

Speaker 6 (15:43):
But that's Cal.

Speaker 7 (15:45):
He's the leader of the team. And a really great
leader doesn't have to say much. Their presence, their face
it'll tell you everything. And if you've ever met my wife,
her face tells you anything and everything you ever need
to know without saying a dang word. So maybe that's
what cal has the effect on this pitching staff.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. Works every time.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
All right, Well, we'll do it again today. Thank you, man,
we appreciate it. We'll talk to you tomorrow. Can't wait, man,
ran E Lee joining us right here on Chuck and
Buck in the mornings. All right, we'll talk more about
it Friday night Sunday. Two completely different experiences, but both
still wonderful. Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ r
f M.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Go ahead on second two, going in the six to
three to two, Blanco rips under the field pace head,
Rodriguez heads home and the Mariners of taking the lead
arn and Polanco as she did on Friday night, gives
you out of the lead two to one here in
game one.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
You're not going to game winning run seven more time,
as far as I'm concerned, Jorge, And.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
With that, yeah, as many, I'm not gonna ask for eight, yeah, seven, selfish?
That would be greedy. Yeah right, but I mean you
got a couple in a row. Right, if you really want,
I will get this greedy. I'll just say, do it
seven more times in a row.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Uh oh, I don't even have to have them like
in a row.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Don't.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
You can just scatter them over the next couple of weeks.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Just you get to seven. Yeah, you know what's gonna
that's actually better.

Speaker 8 (17:24):
It's going to empower you with that or whatever you
need to do.

Speaker 9 (17:27):
However many games needs you need, we can handle it.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
I think maybe when I see you, I look at
somebody that's like, hey, look to me, I can handle
more responsibility. And I would like to give you that responsibility.
Or hey, Polanco, you just have to get us seven
more game winning RBI hits.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
Already got this too. You show you have a pension
for it. Yeah, yeah, just go and get it done.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
Yeah. And I mean to be honest, beautiful googly, I
can't here you are. You don't have to blink. You
can blink when the postseason's over.

Speaker 9 (18:00):
I would ask, though, if he would like to get
them earlier than the fifteenth.

Speaker 8 (18:04):
The name again, that's like, that's what makes it sweet.
I don't know that my heart could handle that.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
You can be in the thirty third as I get
seven more of them.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
Yeah, yeah, that would be a long we tie.

Speaker 9 (18:16):
We'd probably still be watching the game when we came
to work the next day.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
By the way, our postseason, I mean, we can't even
do a post game show these days without Hore Polanco
driving in a game winner. Yeah, so we'll try to
do it again today. I think I don't know if
this has been like declared like officially. I think we
talked about it last week. I think we're watching the
game at Snowcall Me Casino, are we not, and then
doing the post game show from there today sponsor of

(18:41):
the postgame show.

Speaker 5 (18:43):
We're actually doing it from the place.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
YEP.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
It sounds wonderful. I'm going to have some pizza there again.
I'm going to have a view of the.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
Wonderful Welcome to my I've been out there. Have you
been to the sports bar?

Speaker 9 (18:57):
I haven't been to the sports bar, but I have
been to Snowama Casina four or five times.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
It's even better.

Speaker 8 (19:03):
I haven't been since they put the hotel in.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Though.

Speaker 9 (19:05):
I really want to do a little stay and play,
play a little play, a little game craps, win some money,
play some slots, eat some really good food, and have
a great view.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
Yes, asked me for permission if to get into the valley.

Speaker 9 (19:19):
Though, oh do I I've been in there and I
haven't asked for permission before.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
You were almost getting ejected.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
You were doing it because it felt so fun to
be illegal.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Yea with something?

Speaker 3 (19:31):
All right, So Logan Gilbert is gonna start today. I mean,
I'm not overly concerned about that, but it is something
that he's never done before, gone from starter to reliever
to starter and two days in between. I think the
guy's made a rubber. I mean, he's he's gonna be
done it. He's practically you know, he's got all those.

Speaker 5 (19:53):
Little gadgets that he does to stay loose.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
But that guy that they just put up on the screen,
I want to talk about him, Brian Wou. He made
the roster, and he made it for a reason. There's
a reason why he's on it. It means he's healthy
enough to pitch and at some point, so maybe today
is the day to break him out. Maybe it's Logan
for five even four, and then you've got Brian Wu

(20:18):
see how it works, and then maybe if it's clicking.
I mean, he could probably finish out the damn game
for you.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
If you wanted him to.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Uh So, maybe that's this is the day that we
see Brian Wu. I mean, the only reason he's on
the roster right is to pitch, so he's the he's
got to feel good enough to pitch. Maybe they were
saving him for Game number five, But after watching Bryce
go last night, I had zero issues given the ball
to Bryce Miller at any time during the rest of

(20:49):
this postseason. Certainly in Game number five. I don't hesitate
giving him the ball. So maybe today's the day that
Brian Wu makes his impact.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
I wouldn't go. I mean, first of all, we just
saw on TV it looked like he was throwing a
bullpen in Toronto, So I unless he's just going out there,
you know, warming up, I think they're saving him once
he's ready to throw, whether it's a couple of innings
out of a bullpen, once he's ready to throw, I
think they're wanting him to start a game. I mean,
the fact that he was, you know, doing as well

(21:21):
as he was this year of doing the exact thing
that you hope to do as a starter, which is
you know, go deep into a game and give your
team a chance to win. Where he was going six
innings every single time. I think it's just a matter
of win. Are you ready to go? So they're ramping
him up. The way that they do is their protocol
of how do we keep you healthy? I think it's

(21:42):
more of because at this point, I don't feel like
there's a rush. You got Logan today. I think you
feel good with Luis Castillo, even though because he didn't
throw very many pitches, Logan threw thirty four pitches, So
it is essentially it's a bullpen less than a bullpen
amount now obviously higher intensity than throwing a bullpen. But
I think he'll rebound, and I think you got Luis Castile,

(22:03):
George Kirby, and then it sets up to where you're
not in a rush. Now if you wanted to bump
one of those guys back, if today he's playing catch
and he feels great and they're ready to rock and
roll tomorrow, then you can bump Luis Castile back another
day and then go George Kirby in Game five. I
think you're using all five of them in this series
if you have to.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
I don't think you have to though. I mean, Castillo's
certainly good to go with Game three, yeah, and Kirby's
certainly good to go game four.

Speaker 5 (22:33):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
If everything's just like everybody's been stretched so thin because
of that fifteen night affair, even though he's coming back
from an injury, he's the freshest flower in the entire
bed well, and so you know, maybe maybe today's the
day to use him because you need arms, you need weapons,
and Logan. We don't know how Logan's gonna respond to this.

(22:56):
I think He's gonna respond fine. I think we're gonna
get another five six strong innings out of a starting
pitcher that the national audience is gonna believe is tired.
I just I just think he's built differently than most
starting pitchers. So I think we're gonna get that. But
if you had to, if you had to get some
innings out of somebody, seems like Brian Woo's the guy
that's most available to.

Speaker 9 (23:17):
Give that to you well, and it would be nice
to know you have that just in case, not maybe
not Logan, but maybe in game three if it's the CEO,
or Game four if it's Kirby if one of them
has that blow up any or starts to get in trouble.

Speaker 8 (23:29):
I mean, we've seen it the whole time.

Speaker 9 (23:31):
Everyone's on a pretty short leash because runs are, yeah,
you know, a hot commodity right in this in this playoff,
So I could it would be nice to know you've
got someone that could come in for a good chunk
of time to save the bulls.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
I'd just say, I think the last thing you want
to do coming off of any sort of injury is
do anything that's out of the realm of normalcy, right,
I mean, there's the peck. If it is does recover
for today, well then they I think they would start
him today. If it was recovered for tomorrow, then they're
going to start him tomorrow and then he's going to
get the full rest. He's one guy I would think

(24:04):
through the rest of this postseason, which hopefully goes through
the rest of the month. I don't think you're using
him on short rest simply because he's so so soon
removed from having that issue, his peck issue. I just
don't think. I think out of all of the guys
that have had you know, that are available to possibly
pitch in long games or extra eating games. I don't

(24:24):
think he's one of them. I think he's one that
when he's ready to go, you start him, and then
he's going to get his rest the way he's supposed
to get it. Well, even if it's only a four
man rotation that you go to there. But I think
you might just go five man rotation from here and out.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
But that's see, that's but that's my feeling though, Like
if you start him and then he can't go, Now
you got eight innings to fill, where if you have
logan Gilbert's already gone five for you, let's say, and
then he starts a clean inning, I don't want him
coming in with traffic on the base path starts a
clean inning, and then if he if he does and

(25:00):
have it, you get him out in three batters. Hell,
you could even fake an injury. Oh no, it's just
not right. Get me out of here. I mean you
could even do that. You do that with a starting pitcher.
Now you've got seven eight innings to fill, and that
really will screw you up.

Speaker 4 (25:15):
So I don't know, we'll see.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
I mean, obviously we're playing doctor.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
I'm playing with the doctor a little bit.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
I don't know how healthy he is, but you put
him on the roster for a reason, And it sounds
like today is the one day and maybe the last
day that you're still going to feel the lingering effects
of having to go fifteen innings and start three different
starting pitchers in your rotation, have them pitch in one
single day, one single calendar day. This is the last
day that we're going to feel the effects of that

(25:42):
as a group. Logan's obviously taking the bullet and saying,
I can go, I can give you, I can give
you what you need, and so to me WU, even
though he's coming off an injury, he's got to be
the most rested guy in the entire group. But we'll see,
we'll see how they handle it. If it was throwing
a session, that probably does eliminate him. So the point

(26:03):
is probably moot. But I think that I would have
pitched him today and then if you get what you
want out of him, then he goes immediately into your
starting rotation going forward.

Speaker 9 (26:13):
Erin Levine's actually posted a video of him throwing right
now in Toronto.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
Yeah up there all.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Right, coming up next, One last thing to close out
this Tuesday. Sports Radio ninety three point three k A
R F M. All right, game time today, two o'clock,
Game two of the ALCS, and it will be Logan

(26:40):
Gilbert versus Trey Y Savage. That's your pitching matchup. So fine,
your comfortable spot.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Let's go, let's deliver a win.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
We got one last thing round the room.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
We go, Bucky, where are you going with it? I
just would say this, what do you call his name? Yes? Savage?

Speaker 3 (26:58):
Yes savage, Yes savage, I think pronounced yes savage.

Speaker 4 (27:03):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
Sometimes it takes like three years for us to actually
find out how a person's name is pronounced in sports.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
I don't know what.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
We probably don't know it four games into his career.
Probably not whatever, you savage.

Speaker 9 (27:13):
Denzel Washington's been an actor for thirty years and we
just found out we were pronouncing his name wrong.

Speaker 8 (27:18):
It's Denzil, Is that right? That's what you just.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
Jeez, I can't change it now.

Speaker 8 (27:25):
People to keep calling you by the wrong name.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
I think your savage is Slovakian for Game two loser.

Speaker 8 (27:33):
Yes, I would. I think you are correct.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
Actually put that in here. I think it is Polish.

Speaker 9 (27:39):
It is.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
Yeah, you know, you're right, it's directive from Latin and
uh Slovakian. You're right, yes. For game two languages are
quite blow up loser, It says, oh wow, I would
just say this about this kid. I ended up looking
into his outing against the the Yankees, and I'm obviously
pretty great.

Speaker 8 (28:00):
Right.

Speaker 4 (28:00):
Five innings and punch out eleven guys. Decent fastball, very
similar stuff to Gosmin which we faced yesterday. Decent fastball,
not the one hundred mile an hour overpowering one, but
ninety five ninety six good. It's plus enough that you better,
you better be geared up with a split is his
biggest outpitch. He has a slider that he throws to
guys like John Carlos Stanton that are more susceptible to

(28:22):
chase the sliders. I understand that feeling a hundred percent,
So I would just say we need a couple more
guys than just col for one swing to early in
the count. If you want to time up fastball, fine,
but as you get late in the count, I can
guarantee you we are going to see him try to
put you away with stuff that's dropping off the table
below the zone. At that point, then you just have
to shift into I'm sitting on that. I'm sitting on it,

(28:45):
and I'm still gonna fight off fastball. Doesn't mean once
I see fastball freeze. I had some decent success against
guys with split fingers with that same exact Danny Harron
had the best split finger I'd ever faced. He was
a teammate of mine. He ended up saying earlier in
the series when we were talking during batting practice, like
I don't care what you do four for four, just
do not go yards. And I'm like, okay, sure, I'll

(29:07):
get right on that. He knew that I was going
to be sitting on his split finger. He still had
to throw it when he got ahead. And if you
do that same thing, you just fight to get underneath
it's dropping off the table, fight to get underneath it.
If you pop it up, it's fine. I just hope
that we have some more guys than just cow for
one swing that kind of take that approach against this guy.
It's a nice thing that you're getting to face somebody
similar on the flip side of it. I mean, you know,

(29:30):
Logan does a lot of similar things to what Bryce does.
A lot of these guys pitch similarly, right, They have
splittis and they put go top right with that fastball.
It's tough to sit on both of those or hit
both of those. So at some point time up fastball
early if you want making pay for throwing that thing
in the zone when it gets late, know that he's
going to go to that pitch, and we got to
make the adjustment.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
A nice if a rose arena would contribute to something
I would like, that would be nice. He did make
a nice grab last night, a great grab grab. All right, Actually,
what's your one last thing?

Speaker 9 (29:57):
Well, you know, we talk about how superstitious I almost
said suspicious, how superstitious I am with the sports, and
I am sad to report that it has been passed
on to Palmer the Great.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
Okay.

Speaker 9 (30:08):
On Friday, during the fifteen inning game, at one point
when Logan was in, she sat down just because, I
mean she was exhausted. And then I think he got
a strikeout or something, and so then she stood up
to clap and she's like, well.

Speaker 8 (30:22):
Mom, I got to sit back down again, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 9 (30:24):
And so she did that for a couple innings, and
finally I was like, you need to stand up and
watch the game.

Speaker 8 (30:31):
You're missing the game. But even then, I was like,
do I really want her to.

Speaker 9 (30:34):
Stand up and miss and watch this game? Because they
are doing better with her sitting down.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
It's like a mental illness.

Speaker 8 (30:42):
So then I let her stand up and I sat
down for a while.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
I've been detecting it myself, and I didn't want to
say anything because I didn't want to put anything in
her head.

Speaker 5 (30:52):
But yes, every time she sits down, we do better.

Speaker 8 (30:56):
Yeah. See it's a real problem, a real problem. So anyway,
there you go. Sorry, we've got issues. Yeah, yeah, he knows.

Speaker 4 (31:03):
Yeah, although he was doing the same. We're not high
five unless we score runs. True.

Speaker 9 (31:08):
Well he just he was like this fine, otherwise we
were gonna high He doesn't want to high five.

Speaker 8 (31:11):
Be all damn game long?

Speaker 3 (31:13):
I mean, did Palmer? Could Palmer tell like what she
was watching was.

Speaker 9 (31:16):
Just like oh yeah when when they won, she we
were jumping up and down and screaming, and she hugged
me and said.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
This is the best night ever.

Speaker 9 (31:28):
Yeah, and tears streaming down her face as she's crying
and laughing all.

Speaker 8 (31:32):
At the same time.

Speaker 5 (31:33):
What a game, what an experience? Unreal?

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Uh, I would just finish shit off. My one last
thing By the way, John Smoltz was right. JP Crawford
grounded out to the second basement four times last night.
I don't know why Joe Davis was correcting him on
the air because John Smoltz was right, four four threes.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
You ever did that before? Oh, I'm sure not, probably
four three, but I guarantee have done six three six
three four times. Guarantee. It is so pissed off rolling
over the same damn pitch four times in a row.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Oh, worse than stragging out four times.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
No no, no, no, no, no, no no, when you have
to walk back to the dugout at least when you
ground out short. You got a jog down the first
pissed off when you have to walk back humiliating.
