(00:23):
Your eight top stories of the day, really of the
week heading into the weeknd water cooler talk this that
gives you an edge over Larry from Accounting.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
That's the truth.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, that guy, that blow hard.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
He doesn't even know any day.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Football Friday is sponsored by Tito's Handmade Vodka. Tito's Handmade
Vodka is proud sponsor of the Seahawks, distilled and bottled
by Fifth Generation, Inc. Austin, Texas, forty percent alcohol by volume,
saber responsibly. So Happy Football Friday to you all. And
that is exactly where we're going to start and the
sport of football. Seahawks in action this Sunday against the

(00:57):
Atlanta Falcons. They'll be in Georgia having some biscuits and gravy,
some crispy creams. Oh, you gotta go win that lights on,
You gotta go in.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
That light zone.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
What they say, oh yeah, that's when I fresh out
the oven.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Oh oh yeah, or friar wherever they come from. Yeah,
I don't know what, but I bet warm ones. I've
had one warm one in my life.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
It was delicious.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
It doesn't matter. You're driving down the road, you see
that light on, you have to stop. That's what I
was told. Greg Bell was with us at seven o'clock
this morning, and uh boy, I don't see a lot
of paths for the Falcons to beat the Seahawks on Sunday,
But Greg tried to figure it out himself.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
Greg Glennon, their top receiver, hasn't practiced all week. He
may not play, which under the lines the fact that
it's Jon Robertson all day for Atlanta. The top running back,
the number five running back in the league, is going
to be a thousand yard rusher with five more yards
on Sunday. If he runs for one hundred hundred and
fifty and the Seahawks and Sam Darnold turned the ball

(01:57):
over a few times, they could lose this game. The
Seahawks are not yet to the point that they can
just roll the ball out and win. Sure, So that's
that's the recipe. Don't turn the ball over and so
far this is the number three NFL defense and rush defense.
And as I said, I just don't think they've been
tested all that much because they've been leading like two
touchdowns early in games. This will be the test Atlanta,

(02:20):
even if they fall behind, will continue to run. Stop
Jon Robinson and you're gonna win.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Greg Bell, if you want to hear the entire thing,
ninety three three kjar dot com, that's the podcast. That's
where the show podcast will land. We call it the pod.
I'll disagree a little bit with how he phrased that.
I think, b John Robbins, you don't have to stop
the John Robinson. You just can't let him dominate, right.
I mean he can rush for one hundred, he can
rush for one hundred and ten yards, and I still

(02:48):
think the Seahawks will win this football game if he
rushes for one seventy five and catches another fifty. Now,
now we're in trouble. Yeah you tell me that. I'm like, oh, oh,
what was the final score of that game? But I
don't think it's possible to just stop him in his tracks.
I think that's asking too much of the Hawks defense.
But I just don't think one man can beat the

(03:10):
Seattle defense, and that's pretty much what's going on. Robinson
entered the week ranked fourth in the NFL and rushing
yards add nearly six hundred receiving yards, and you have
yourself one heck of a multipurpose weapon. But he might
be the only weapon offensively that Atlanta has left. Michael
Pennix is out at quarterback, and wide receiver number one
Drake London is doubtful for Sunday.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Yeah, I mean I have a lot of confidence about
the Seahawks team going in and obviously, yeah, the one
factor is Jon Robinson, but I also don't anticipate this
defense giving up one hundred and seventy five yards on
the ground.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
No, I just don't see it.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Yeah, four and eight Falcons have lost six of their
last seven games. The nine to three Seahawks sit atop
the division right now, tied to top the division technically
a little bit behind the Rams because of the head
to head match up. Just smidge, but you got two
nine and three teams one nine and four team. The
Rams will be at Arizona Sunday, trying to bounce back

(04:03):
from a loss to the Carolina Panthers. San Francisco at
nine to four is on by so they're finally serving
their bye week this week, and they would need both
the Seahawks and the Rams to lose to draw even
in the NFC West Seattle at Atlanta ten am. Kickoff
the week fourteen, which is a fascinating one in the

(04:24):
National Football League, got started last night in Detroit where
the Lions topped the Dallas Cowboys. Hand off to Gibbs
working the right side walker in front of the ten,
Gibbs skipping to the five under the exone for a touchdown.

Speaker 6 (04:42):
Tristan Cologne was the convoy to lead Gibbs to the
Promised Lands and perhaps to lead the Lions to their
eighth win of the season.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Forty three point thirty for the extra point to come
west Wood one with the highlight there. Jamier Gibbs rushed
for forty three yards last but he scored three touchdowns.
I was so jealous of Ashley when she got Jamior
Gibbs in our fantasy league this season, and man, has
he been unbelievable. I think he is the fastest, like

(05:15):
from a dead stop to the peak of his speed
runner I've ever seen. Now maybe I'm the prisoner of
the moment. But I think his ability to get to
top speed in a short space is unlike any football
player I've ever seen.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Yeah, he is fantastic to watch. It's been very fun.
I am lucky.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I got him in our fantasy football league. I got
him in two.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Leagues, did you really?

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Last yeah?

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Last week he had fifty and sixty points for me
in those leagues. This week thirty five and thirty something.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
I mean he came out and out in the same
draft with B John Robinson and everybody fought Robinson's word
the top five pick, But why are you picking Gibbs twelve?

Speaker 3 (05:55):
And I think he's every bit.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Is good, maybe better I would agree than B.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
John. But its great.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Yeah, and especially playing with Detroit's offense two probably helps
him quite a bit.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Detroit scored the last fourteen points of the game to
pull away from a hot Dallas squad.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Forty four to thirty was.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
The final score, so the Cowboys fall back to five
hundred on the season. The Lions are still even with
the win, on the outside of the playoff picture looking
in even with their eight and five record. Week Fourteen's boy,
it's a stunner, Cincinnati at Buffalo, Pittsburgh at Baltimore. So
a lot's going to be sorted out there in the

(06:32):
AFC North, and those aren't even the three best games.
The best early game is going to be Indy at Jacksonville.
Those two teams tied record wise atop the AFC South
Chicago at green Bay. Only a half game separates them.
And if you haven't checked out your handy dandy standings lately,
you might be surprised to know that the Bears are
actually in first place in the NFC North. They'll be

(06:55):
at green Bay to take on the Packers. That's the
best afternoon game, and then at night Houston at Kansas
City terrific matchup, and it might be playoff time for
both of those teams right now. They're on the outside
of the playoffs looking in, and the Kansas City Chiefs
might be desperate at this point. So that's a heck

(07:15):
of a Sunday form.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, that is gonna be a lot of fun, a
lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Saturday's even better.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
College Football Conference Championship Week is here. Of course, the
big game is the Big Ten title game between Ohio
State and Indiana. That's number one versus number two in America,
meeting for the Big Ten Conference title. I'm not saying
that Ohio State is intimidating for the Hoosiers, but to me,

(07:42):
it feels like what I'm hearing Indiana is really working
hard to try to convince themselves they can win. I'm
so excited. I'm s side, Well, that's not encouraging.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
No, that does. I would have thought they would have
had a little more faith in themselves.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Guys like they fell apart.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Yeah you got this, we need you. Gotta send them
a pep talk like some Donuts Chrispy.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Ohio State versus Indiana's that's just fantastic. And that these
are not finesse teams. Everybody thinks Indiana some finesse team.
I mean they are gritty and happen to feature the
guy that's probably going to win the Heisman Trophy and
against the clear cut number one ranked team in the country.

(08:33):
Have been almost all season long since they beat Texas
in the season opener. So five o'clock on Fox, that's
the only game on Fox. The rest of the Big
Game Saturday will be on ABC. You're gonna have eleven
BYU taking on Texas Tech for the Big twelve title
at nine am kickoff one o'clock Georgia ranked third in

(08:54):
the country versus number nine Alabama. That's at one for
the SEC title, and then the AC title will also
be played at five o'clock, but on ABC it'll be
number seventeen Virginia versus Duke. And then there are two
games tonight Troy versus James Madison, North Texas versus Tulane,
and both of those games could very well impact selection Sunday,

(09:19):
which is now just two days away. Rick new Isil
was with us on Tuesday. He's got a lot of
problems with those committee members.

Speaker 7 (09:27):
I just think we need to tweak the schedules and
we need to make it not as subjective in the
committee room because they just stick to wins and losses,
the head to head stuff. The notion of who you
played really isn't factored in. You can't have Notre Dame
ahead of Miami. That makes no sense to anybody. If

(09:48):
you talk to Texas, there are five teams that are
going to make the tournament from the SEC, and if
you look at the top five teams in the SEC,
there are two that are seven and one and there
are three six and two. Texas is one of those
six and two teams, and they beat the other two
six and two teams, but they lost to Ohio State.

(10:09):
The reason they lost to Ohio State is they played
Ohio State. They didn't have to, and they're in. If
we want games that are going to be of significance
in the non conference, we can't penalize people. And yet
I also understand if you didn't win the game, you
can't be rewarded as if you did.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Rick new Isl with us on Tuesday. I mean, I
agree with almost everything Rick new Isel says about college football,
but I do think he's a little bit off. I think,
as I mentioned in our last segment, I think there
is an argument for Notre Dame to be above Miami. Yeah,
I think there's a very good one. And yet I
think there's a very good argument for Miami, because of

(10:47):
that head to head win, to be ahead of Notre
Dame since they both have the same records. I think
there's a great argument for Texas to get into this,
and I don't want to squelch potential great matchup like
Ohio State and Texas because teams are like, there's no
benefit to it.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
You know, you just put yourself at risk.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
But let's also point out that Texas would be in
it if they just didn't lose to a bad Florida team.
They would be in it, and they would be ranked
pretty highly. They would be the highest ranked two loss
team in this entire process. So, look, they're gonna be
doesn't matter how small or big you make this thing.
They're gonna be a couple of teams who have a

(11:27):
great case for being in it. They're gonna be left
out and the conversation that follows is part of the fun. Yes,
and it stinks if I mean Vanderbilt. I feel terrible
for Vanderbilt. I don't know how many chances they're gonna
get to ever be here. I don't know how many
Heisman Trophy candidates they're going to have for the rest
of their lives. I'd love to see the Vanderbilt Commodores

(11:47):
led by Diego Pavia get into this tournament field, but
they're not going to. Somebody's going to be left out
of the process. And so yes, let's have our debates.
But the anger that people are already established seems strange
to me.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
Well, especially we don't know how they're going to actually
what's going to We don't know what's going to happen
in these games, so we have no idea what's going
to happen on Sunday. So you know, baby steps, don't
just get your preemptive anger because you want to get
all riled up, thinking the louder I am, the more
likely they'll hear us, and then they'll definitely, you know,
reward our team.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
That's not the way it works. I don't care.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
I wish you would have been as angry about us
not having a tournament. I mean, that would have been great.
I could have used the support for fifty years of
my life. Yeah right, you know that. You know, where
were you with me boycotting the Bowl games until they
gave us a tournament? And instead people seem to be
more angry with the committee for making a difficult decision
that they haven't even made yet.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Yeah, it's very strange.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Alabama is also a very interesting story here because there
are people at ESPN, big names at kirk kurb Street.
Nick Saban talked about it on Saturday that think that
your resumes should end at the end of the regular season,
that you should not get punished because you earned a
right into the conference championship game, had to play an

(13:08):
extra game and may lose to a team that you
beat during the regular season. That shouldn't affect your status
as a playoff team. I get that argument too, but
it has to affect it.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, Otherwise, why are you having the games?

Speaker 7 (13:21):
Right?

Speaker 1 (13:22):
I mean, it's gonna affect Georgia. I mean, if Bama
beats Georgia, Georgia's gonna slide down, right, They're not gonna
be the third ranked team in the tournament. They're not
gonna get a buye in the first round. If they
loseed Alabama and if Alabama beats them twice, there's no
way you can rank Georgia ahead of Alabama. No chance
that you could do that. So if Alabama loses that

(13:43):
game and they lost a Florida State at the beginning
of the year and got trashed, yes, it has to
factor in. If we're saying there's an eyelash difference between
Alabama and Notre Dame, and an eyelash difference between Notre
Dame and Miami, and an eyelash difference between Miami and
Texas's resume, you better believe losing a third game conference

(14:07):
championship or not has to factor into that decision.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
Yes, I just again, you have the games right now,
So if you don't want them to factor in in
the future, get rid of the games.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
But right now they have to matter.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
I think they are going to get rid of them. Yeah,
and I think that we are going to get rid
of the possibility to have two group of five teams
in a twelve team tournament field. I think that will
get adjusted immediately after this season, even if it doesn't happen.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
The possibility that it could have.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
The fact that they're crapping their pants right now that
this could happen. They're going to get rid of that.
They're going to have different requirements for whether a group
of five team even can get in at all, especially
a two loss tu Lane. A two loss Tulane gets
in over Miami. That's what people should be like, we
can't They're not enough about not angry because it's part

(14:53):
of the rules, but angry because we can't let that
happen again. Yes, so you know, we're still in the
infancy stages. It's just year number two of the tournament.
I love that it's here. Everyone should love that it
is here. There are still some things to figure out
about it until we can get the exact right system.
We're not there yet, but let's learn from that again

(15:15):
this year and maybe we can get there at least
closer to it next season.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
All right, college basketball this week and you dub will
be at USC and uh man, this is always a
scary proposition.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Put down your sphere, but I'm fighting the Trojans.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Cut up today, but I'm ready. You taught me how
to fight.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
You're a good student.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
You're not a moment in yet, that's right.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Not today, tomorrow, Yeah, you gotta wait.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yeah, grab your spirit tomorrow. Yeah, not today. We're not
playing them today.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Yeah, don't do it today. You're gonna be early, and
nobody wants an early bird.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
That's the point Brad was making right there. It's like,
you're not playing today, playing tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yeah, we're just traveling today.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
You played UCLA to a bucket Wednesday night. But that's
an OH to one star for the Dogs in conference play.
They'll be at USC tomorrow at three o'clock. Number twenty
four ranked USC off to an eight and oh start
this year, but they will be facing a pair of
former Trojans in Desmond Claude and Wesley Yates. The third.
CBS Sports has described the start of this college basketball

(16:19):
season as the best ever.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Oh that's a statement, that's dumb.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
But what they're trying to highlight is that if you're
just locked into the football world right now, and it's
hard not to be as a sports fan, there is
this freshman class Ashley in college basketball this year, which
is fantastic, and so there's some really good basketball being played.
There's new stars that have emerged on the college basketball landscape,

(16:48):
and so that's what they mean. So if you're just
waiting till the football season to end before you watch
any basketball, you might be doing yourself with this service.
The greatest season ever. No, it's not even possible. Oilers
last night took on the crack and the crack and
are certainly in a slump right now. But last night,

(17:09):
I mean, that was ridiculous. They couldn't stop Edmonton at all.

Speaker 8 (17:13):
Call I slot called shoot stocked away prebout Savoy scorers.
That is the fourth power play goal for the Admilton Oilers,
the second of the night for Matt Savoy.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Nine three.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Ed moan tone it's great.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
He is evert fits you on the call.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
It was edmontone nine crack and four ended up being
the final score. They scored nine times.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Niner nine times, nine times? Did I catch a niner?

Speaker 4 (17:52):
In?

Speaker 5 (17:52):
There?

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Were you calling from awakie talkie?

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Cracking are officially in their first slump of the Laine
Lambert era. They have lost four straight games. They have
not scored a power play goal in any of the
four games, and last night they allowed nine goals to
Connor McDavid and company. Yeah, get out of it. Their
next chance to get out of it is against Detroit tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Night at home seven o'clock.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
They will drop the puck and finally, man, it's not
just football and basketball and hockey this week and ed
ride Baseball's back into our lives. Wait, hey, are you listening?

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Woo in the league?

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Single is listening? Oh you're on the night the beautiful sight.
We're happy tonight walk in the winter and oh winter
meetings start on Sunday and into early next week. This
used to be a playground for all sorts of MLB trades.

(18:53):
It really hasn't been recently, and that is annoying. But
I don't really I mean free agency last all off
season and because of Scott Boris sometimes into the regular season.
But this is where all the general managers in baseball
have decided volunteered, volunteered to go to one warm location,

(19:16):
to hang out in the same hotel, eat at the
same restaurants, drink the same scotch, smoke the same cigars,
and talk trades. So if there's gonna be a Mariner
trade this offseason, maybe this is the playground for that.
So we shall see. We're going to talk next about
the stove. That's right, Mariner's second base position. What are

(19:39):
we going to end up with at the end of
the off season. We'll discuss it next here on Chuck
and Buck Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Thanksgiving
with the family, and then you got gifts for everybody Christmas,
And I know it's hard to shove in there another holiday,
but you know what, tis the season, right.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Nashley, Tis the damn season.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
So let's not exhaust all of your joy and joy
spreading at the winter meetings here this upcoming week and
forget about Christmas.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Yeah, we can't do that.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Don't do that.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
I think Christmas is important.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Just remember, yeah, you and you've got but you've got
to just it's all part of the joy of the season, right,
Every part has its due and Christmas is no different.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Yeah, I get it. You got a lot of Christmas
parties to attend. How can you go to another five
Winter Meetings parties? Hard this week? It's going to be difficult,
but you know what, just do it because in February
you're gonna be bored and you're like, man, if I
could just go to a Winter's Meeting party, I.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Will say this, Yeah, the joy of a Winter Meeting
party is technically in your mind.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
You could go all winter long.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
That's true. That's true. You could just in your heart
just do it.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
But yes, Winter meetings start on Sunday. Let's talk about
our second base position here heading into the Winter meetings,
because it's a very fascinating one. First of all, I
mean Hora Polonko. Yes, that seems to be the objective
right now. The next objective from the organization is to
try to bring back Orge Polanco on a new deal,

(21:12):
and it will be a multi year deal. I think
if it got to three years, I think Justin and
Jerry are like, sorry, sorry, Bud thirty two years old,
bout injury history. You had one of two good years
with us, and even your good year you had injuries.
And so I don't think we're gonna invest three years.
If you can find that deal in Pittsburgh or Kansas

(21:32):
City or Milwaukee, which has been suggested out there, we're
probably gonna have to let you go. If he says
two years, let's say fourteen million a year, let's say,
you know, in that range twenty five to twenty eight
million a year, then I think if he's good with that,
I think he's going to be a Mariner. But I'm
not sure Ashley, he's gonna be the Mariner's second baseman.

(21:54):
To me, I don't want to retard the progress of
cole Young. Cole Young was handled the right way. He
might have been rushed to the majors because we had
a second base need.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
He might not have been ready for that. And yet when.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
It came time to make decision, when he got to
the playoff Chase, Cole Young wasn't playing as much. He
didn't make the roster, he didn't earn it. He shouldn't
have made the roster. He had to go with Polonko
at second base. But ideally for me, what you want
to do is bring Polonko back to be your primary DH,

(22:32):
but not like a Nelson Cruz DH. We're going to
have you work out at second with Cole. I might
even give you another crack at third in spring training.
So remember, I mean he was terrible defensively at third
base at the beginning of this past year, but he
was also learning a new position while trying to reab
from an injury, so he wasn't exactly in a great

(22:54):
place to be working with Perry Hill to begin with.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
And so maybe you give him another.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Shot as long as he's healthy, and he's going to
be healthy, otherwise you don't sign him to a deal, right,
So what I would like to do with him is
be our primary DH. Cole Young's our primary second baseman.
But if Cole Young, he's still just twenty one, does
just theater, then I can put jre in at second
base because we've still been working out with him at

(23:21):
second base. But I think Cole Young is going to
be really good. I saw enough out of him this
past year, and I know they believe in him. I mean,
we went into spring training last year and they were
saying Cole Young, if he shows out will win the
job at second base in spring training, so they think
the world of him.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
So to me, that's the scenario.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
I want Polonko back, but as our primary DH, and
I want Cole Young to start at second base on
opening day.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Well, and I think that's good.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
It saves you in a lot of ways too, because obviously,
as we know from this last year, injuries happened throughout
the season. It gives you extra options, extra safety net there,
and goodness knows we can use that, especially when you
get down to the end of the season and you're
trying to make the playoffs by one game or two games.
You know, to have that person that is first of
all a DHU feel comfortable with and can rely on.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Sorry, Mitch didn't really trust you as a DH last.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
Year, but then Buckie loved him.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Yeah, well his favorite.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
But then to be able to step in and to
fill that role at second base or potentially if you
had to at third base, I mean you're just now
you're you know, the Mariners love to be able to
have people that can do multiple things, that is sure.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
That is I think everybody, Yeah, everybody does, especially Yeah,
And then I know what people are saying Okay, fine,
Cole Young's a second. We'll deal with the growing pains.
We still do have Ryan Bliss. There are other options.
Polunco could be the backup emergency if it's not work
and put him in a second. So there's some options there,
But that means we can't have Ben Williamson at third.

(24:51):
Can't have them both in the lineup to start the season. Well,
of course you can. And and I think that what
the Mariners did this offseason they fell in love with
and that was, hey, we've got a team with our pitching,
that and with cal Rawley having gone to another stratosphere
in terms of his stardom. That right now, even if
we don't add anything else, we just bring back Polonko.

(25:14):
We're a playoff team. And then let's use the season
to assess where our holes are. Maybe Ben Williamson won't
be a hole. Certainly plays great defense, absolutely certainly gives
you a scrappy at bat. It's just he doesn't have
much power. So if that is our hole, then we'll
be aggressive at the trading deadline. One name that keeps

(25:36):
popping up this offseason is Brendan Donovan, and he's the
Saint Louis Cardinals kind of a utility infielder, second base,
third base, primarily so he could factor into the equation
at either of these spots.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
Not to be confused with Brendan Ryan.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
No, and he continues to be linked to the Seattle Mariners.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
I like Brendan Donovan. I like the idea of having
Brendan Donovan. I think he could be an asset to
this team winning the World Series next year. But I
certainly don't love Brendan Donovan. And based on some of
the things that are being discussed out there that you
have to love him in order to pay what it's
going to require to get him. I mean, I have

(26:18):
heard and this isn't just goofballs trying to get attention
on social media. Anthony Kastrovins, who writes and does a
lot of trade articles for MLB Network, He's like, here's
a trade. Mariners get Brendan Donovan, Cardinals get Jerangelo Saint
Gee and Las Montes. What cool your jets, dude? I

(26:41):
would I wouldn't trade one of either one of those
guys straight up for Brendan Donovan. I mean, this guy
with ten home runs and three stolen bases, so he
doesn't have power, he doesn't have speed. He does have
a hit tool, he does put the ball in play,
and I like those guys, but there's no way I'm
moving a top prospect for two years of a scrappy

(27:05):
you know, beer bellied doesn't have a position.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Painting him in such a great light right now.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
I can't hit for power and can't run. I'm not
There's no way I'm giving up if that's the price tag,
If that's truly the price tag. And there are guys
that are that infatuated with Brendan Donovan out there that
they're willing to give up one or two top prospects
for him, then let them do it.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Yes, And I hope.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
That Jerry and Justin aren't one of them. I hope
they're not hanging out in the same group. I hope
they're not behind the building with those people smoking cigarettes.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah, put the dope down.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
Yeah. So no, I yes, I'm interested. I brought this
up on stove and the podcast really breaks down a
lot of this. It's Andrews and I Winter Meeting preview
if you want to check that out at ninety three
to three KJR dot com. But if Brendan Donovan is
walking down the street and he's got his uniform on,
he's got his cleats over his shoulder and a baseball
bat sticking out of his Duffel bag, and he's just

(27:58):
wandering the streets aimlessly. And the Mariners bus pulls up
next to Brendan. Donovan says, what's going on, man, just
looking for a team to play with.

Speaker 6 (28:08):
Hop the board, Come on, come on, come on over,
pick him up, get on the bus. Yeah, but obviously
you have to make a decision. We got to take
somebody off the bus because he's not a free agent,
So you got to take somebody off the bus. To me,
that's like Dom Canzone. Maybe you know, that's that's.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Who I'm giving up. I'm not giving up a.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
Switch pitcher who could be quite the asset going forward
for years to come. And I'm certainly not giving up
Las Montes, who has fifty homer potential at the major
League and could be the next Yar down Alvarez. You
imagine how miserable will all be if ten years from
now Montes really is the next year down Alvarez. And
we got two years of a pudgy middle infielder.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
And Saint Jay's out there pitching with both arms at
the same time.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Well, I do like him, but there's no way I'm
only paying I'm only giving in a trade what I
would give for somebody. I kind of like, there's no
way that I'm giving up a love package, not for
Brendan Donovan. All Right, Humellanal join us at the top
of the hour with ex'es and o's Mike Holm Renal
join us before the show comes to a close. Coming

(29:20):
up next, We've done it all season long, a Big
Ten preview and there's only one game left. Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJRFM again is like.

Speaker 5 (29:29):
The new Robin Hood.

Speaker 7 (29:30):
I mean he can get a hundred paces away and
take an arrow out and hit an apple. I mean
his downfield accuracy is off the charts. And when you
do that with guys like Carnel Tate and Jeremiah Smith
who are open more often than not, it's something to behold.
I love the Indiana story. The question is can they
stay close enough to get.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
A bye ring New Eiel on the Big Ten Championship game?
And yes, what a game we've got tomorrow five o'clock
Indiana taken on OHIOO State the Ohio State Buckeyes. So
coach is going to take Ohio State and I am too.

(30:12):
I think they're even better than they were a year ago.
I think on the defensive side of the ball. Yeah,
Matt Patricia has done a great job as defensive coordinator.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
But they might have like ten first round picks.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
I mean it is ridiculous. Yeah, and that that didn't
even tap into the best player in the country on
the offensive side of the ball, and Jeremiah Smith and
a really good young quarterback in Saying. I hope Julian
Saying is not invited to the Heisman ceremony. I have
a really big problem with us rewarding not products of

(30:47):
the system, but rewarding guys who are like the seventh
best player on their team being named the best player
in the country.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
Yeah, that should be a problem, right, Yeah, I mean
I would have a problem with that too.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
Yeah. There's there are like seven guys right now who
are better at what they do for the Ohio State
Buckeyes than Julian Sayan is at playing quarterback. And so
it's not a product of the system argument. It's just
it's just man, when you're surrounded with that much talent,
you better be shoulders above all the other quarterbacks statistically

(31:20):
in the country, and that's just not the case. And
even in this game, he's not the best quarterback in
this game. In terms of his merits for winning the Heisman,
Fernando Mendoza will probably win the award.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
I'd go with Diego Pavia.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Frankly, but I think I think Mendoza is gonna end
up winning the Heisman, and I think Ohio State's gonna end.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Up winning the game and the national championship.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
To be quite honest, yeah, I still think that Ohio
State's gonna win the game.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
I just think it's gonna be a close game.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
And that's why when we did factor fiction, I thought
the five point spread was a lot.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
Please be close.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Yeah, I want it to be close.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
So maybe it's my wishful thinking that we did a
good game and it's and it's close, but I think
it should be. I mean, because Ohio State's the number
one defense Indiana is. Aren't they the number two defense
in the country is?

Speaker 1 (32:06):
I don't know that I think they are. They might be.
I mean they're not just some I mean we kind
of when Signetti started this thing, everybody just thought Indiana
was just some finesse team. They are not a finesse team.
They will punch you in the mouth. They can do
everything well. They can run the ball, they can throw
the ball. They do have some finesse to them.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Yeah, they are points allowed number two.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
There you go, but they are they are a winning
the trenches kind of team. Just like, Oh, that's what
Ohio State does, that's what Oregon does. I mean, everybody
kind of attaches this because Ohio State's had this flood
of wide receivers. No, they are one of those that
everything up front is pretty dominant and then yeah, and

(32:49):
so that's kind of how they win their football games.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
And same thing with Oregon. I mean we think of
Oregon and.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
The uniforms and what Chip Kelly did to kind of
change the program entirely, and so we kind of attach
finesse to Oregon. Oh, they're not finesse. They'll punch you
right in the mouth. That's how they win football games.
And that's how Ohio State wins them for the most part,
and that's how Indiana wins them. It doesn't mean they
can be finesse, it doesn't mean they can't blow the
lid off of you and score fifty points. That's why

(33:19):
they're national championship contenders.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Frankly, that's why they're number one and two in the
country right now.

Speaker 4 (33:24):
But yeah, it's I just am fascinated by this game
because I do think these teams, the matchup is just
so intriguing. You do have such good defenses and then
you've got the high powered offense of Indiana that we've seen,
you know, just go.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Nuts at times.

Speaker 4 (33:38):
So I'm intrigued to see how Ohio State's going to
stop them. I'm intrigued to see how they're going to
stop Ohio State. The whole thing is fascinating.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
The only thing that would disappoint me is if it
is a blowout one way or the other. Yeah, I
want a great game. I want this one of all
of them to be a great game one versus two.
Are you kidding me? At this point in the year,
this is this is just some fantastic stuff. So yes,
we've provided this service of a Big Ten preview every
single week at eight forty five on Fridays on Football Fridays,

(34:07):
and part of that also has been our fantasy league
that we did this year. Congratulations, and we'll have a ceremony.
We'll have an official ceremony. But Christopher Kidd, Yeah, I
hate him. I got to give him. I mean he
got a little bit along. I think he won because
he avoided more injuries than.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
The rest of us.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Yeah, he did get lucky there.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
Yeah, and I think he also ended up winning because
he didn't make as many moves as us. He kept
passing and so he got a little bit lucky on
that front. But he also drafted the best. I mean
he had three of the four guys that he had
drafted originally ended up on his team. He had Denzel
Boston and Mackay Lemon and Fernando Mendoza was his quarterback

(34:51):
in the fourth round. And I remember thinking that at
the time, like should I have taken him? Yeah? That
was a pick from heaven.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
That was so good.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Congratulations to Christopher. We'll have your green jacket ceremony the
next time. We try to think about it, all right,
