Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's some time. Good morning class, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Ladies and gentlemen, behold.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
In producing six one guard from Brighton, Illinois and former
high school basketball stand what in the hell does that mean?

Speaker 4 (00:15):
Don't jumped any conclusions.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Not a god, You've got to lower lower your expectations.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Hard to believe he could once send a fastball to Pluto.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I'm getting some Bucky Jacobson vibes and former will just
openly admit I'm a fat, out of shaped X athlete.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Now there's been a noticeable spike in your blood pressure.
A five seven guard and a former college water polo
and national champion.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
There's a lot of useless crap up here.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Wow, this is Chuck and Buck in the Morning with
Ashley Ryan. What to you buy to Lato Casino Resort
and Quilsee to Greek Draft King sports book where the
action never stopped?

Speaker 1 (00:54):
There you go. Well, good morning, uh and welcome to
the program. We have four hours of radio. But it
is not Chuck. He again is taking another day off,

(01:15):
and rightfully so and well deserved. He needs to get
rested up so that he can deal with Ashley and.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
I ain't that the truth.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
I can barely see you in there by the way,
Is it dark?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
It is dark.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
I was like, I think that's Bucky. I just have
to dim my lights to match his lights.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, I'm gonna I'll turn him up because it's you know,
I don't want anybody to not be able to see
all of this and in all of its glory. Yeah,
Or I'll just turn it all the way off. You
can just stare into a dark room.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
Either way, just as song as we're not in this
middle portion that we're in right now.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yeah, you just just my face with the glow of
these computer screens. I'm sure that'd be wonderful. I think
it was anders. I think Andrews was in here doing
the hockey game, and he probably dims the lights, you know,
for mood.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Oh yeah, and whatnot.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
That makes sense, I guess, because yeah, where the lights
are right now with the chis is probably really good radio.
But all I can really see is the outline of
my big white door behind me in my reflection of
the glass, and then your face is just kind of
faded behind that.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Oh well, then it's probably you're probably better off for it.
But I'm gonna I don't want to see shoe. I'm
un a shoe by turning the lights up after it,
I'll appreciate it. Yeah, okay, all right, good, Well, like
I said, we got four hours of radio, no Chuck,
just Ashley and I today, no Hue. That's fine. Then
we don't have to die. We don't have to talk
about nothing but football, because there's other things to talk about.

(02:37):
I don't know for sure if there's anything more important
or well, I don't even know if you call this important.
Probably bigger story that has some ties to the Seattle
folks here other than the whole DK situation. Yeah, that's
a doozy what I mean. Obviously we discussed yesterday that,
you know, somewhere towards the end of the game this

(03:01):
weekend Steelers against the Lions in Detroit. Everybody's seen at
this point unless you've been living under a rock, that
he decided to go over to a fan and somebody
had been obviously heckling him and saying some stuff. His
side of the story is that he called him the
N word and called his mother the sea word. Yes,

(03:24):
both of which in a just regular setting I would
say warrant getting slapped upside the face either or not
to mention if you did both. Now, I ended up
seeing a video yesterday of someone right there, I mean
in the stands. I didn't hear any of that. Now,
if he said it when he was right up close
to him, when he was kind of bending down and

(03:47):
and DK looked like kind of grabbed his shirt before
he took a swipe at took a swipe at him
trying to hit him or did hit him, Yeah, if
he said it right there, yeah, you didn't catch that.
But leading up to it, what cat on that video
wasn't anything other than your typical heckling.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
Yeah, just people yelling and they were like, don't sign it,
like he wanted to sign his Lion's shirt.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
I think, yeah, I don't. Yeah, who knows.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
I didn't understand the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
I don't know for sure if we will ever get
the whole truth and nothing but the truth DK is
for you know, he's coming out on his and saying
I've had issues with this guy before. Apparently he had
reported this this fan back when he was a Seahawk.
He had reported him to the Seahawks security team because
of him saying inappropriate things. Are just Dek not liking

(04:34):
him saying anything, and then now this time he basically
ends up having a physical confrontation with the guy that
now he's going to be suspended for the rest of
this regular season, which is going to cost him five
hundred and forty four thousand dollars. And that's not even
the worst of it. The worst is that that looks

(04:55):
like pennies. Yeah, forty five million dollars of guaranteed money
that was in his big one hundred plus million dollar
contract is now at the risk of being it's not
guaranteed now doesn't mean that he's not going to make
it or can't still make it. It just gives the
Pittsburgh Steelers an out if they want to get out.
And I think that's a doozy. Now he's putting up

(05:19):
he's not having a great season, but that they are
not having a great offensive season. He's starting to come
on a little bit as of late. I think Aaron
Rodgers is starting to recognize what it is that he
how he does what he does, and their connection is
getting a little better. But I don't know for sure.
I mean, you just you basically feel like you're skating
on thin ice. If I'm dk now with the idea

(05:41):
of man, I do anything wrong, they can get rid
of me and they don't owe me that guaranteed money
that was in my contract because he's done something that
Somewhere in the contract there was the verbiage of if
you do something detrimental to the team, or you miss
games because of something other than an injury, then you
this stuff is not guaranteed anymore. So now all of

(06:03):
a sudden, you're just playing on a contract that you
don't have basically the guarantee, which is I think what
most of these guys are going for when they're trying
to get these new contracts. So I feel for them.
At the same time, I don't. I mean, I don't
want to say that it's that it's right for a
fan to say anything, because I think fans are far

(06:24):
too emboldened these days to just talk trash without the
fear of consequences. But the consequences cannot ever be you
taking a swipe at them, you trying to punch them.
As an athlete, you just part of what goes into
being a pro athlete is all of the extra stuff.
It's not you know, you just get to play a

(06:45):
game and you get to act a fool. If so,
you don't like how somebody says something to you, or
or how things are going you. Part of your job
is acting professional, even in the light of somebody else
acting like an a hole, you know, I mean, what's
your thought. I mean, do you think the suspension for
the rest of the regular season, and the stipulation of

(07:08):
what it's possibly going to do to his contract moving forward,
do you think that's fair?

Speaker 5 (07:12):
I mean, I think it's a lot more than I
thought was going to happen to him. I thought maybe
he'd get fined.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
I didn't.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
I would have he should be suspended for a game,
but I didn't know that they would do that, so
I was quite surprised to see the two game suspension.
I think the biggest issue when I've watched all of
these angles of the videos over and over and over,
is that DK could have avoided this situation. He's on
the sideline, the guy's yelling at him. All you have

(07:38):
to do is walk the other direction. Instead, he stood there,
listen to it for a bit, then chose to walk
up to the fan and start this altercation. The guy
is in the stands, He's not coming down on the field.
He's not going to come attack you. So if you
go the other direction, you avoid the whole thing. And
in this situation, it's your livelihood and your name. No

(07:59):
one knows who this guy is or knew who this
guy was before this altercation happened. Everyone knows who you are,
so you've got to protect the reputation that you have.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
And he didn't do that.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
He put himself in this, in this situation, and he said,
you know, I feel for him. Yeah, I feel for
him in the sense that if this guy has had
if he's had issues with this guy over and over again,
or if this guy did say what DK's saying he
said and not what the fan is because the fans
saying he just called him by his full name, and
we're like, hired a lawyer already and has put out
a statement and is probably now gonna sue Dkay oh yeah,

(08:34):
and so in that But again, the reason I don't
feel for him is because it never had to happen.
All he had to do was go the other direction.
You are down on the field, you were twenty feet
away from him. You could have walked the other way
instead of turning around and going over to the fan
and Honestly, someone from the Steelers should have been on
it to have pulled him away as he started walking

(08:55):
to the guy.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah yeah, well that teammate wise or coaching staff wise. Yeah,
I'm with you on that. I mean, but then again,
I don't know for sure if DK is one that
takes prodding or probing or anything. Hey dude, do this.
Here's the direction you need to go, whether it's physically
direction go to that direction or just taking direction. I mean,

(09:20):
I'm not gonna say that he's completely uncoachable, but I'm
going to say that he's not the most coachable. Oh yeah,
you know, I just don't think that. I think that
he has a little bit of the I'm kind of
a one of one. Yeah you are physically, but you're
not even close to one of one between the years
when it comes to how to handle yourself. We watched
it here and it was one of the more frustrating things.

(09:41):
There was frustration, legitimate frustration about how he was used
in the offense. And you know, I mean I buy
into a lot of what Hugh says. I think Hughes
football knowledge is off the charts. So when he's saying
you gotta take a shot to this guy at least
once a game or once a half or whatever it is,
and you have to just try to pound the ball
to this guy because of what he brings to the

(10:03):
table physically and how he can change a game. I
was on board with that and understood that, and the
fact that that didn't happen for majority of the time
that he was a Seahawk, I can understand where frustration
would be on the flip side of it. There's other parts.
I think that that maybe he doesn't do the same
as Jackson Smith and Jigba, Like wouldn't a quarterback first

(10:24):
and foremost want to be able to know you're going
to be exactly where you're going to be. I mean
to the half a yard, I mean exactly. I don't
think that he was that great at it. Otherwise, his
physical attributes combined with his route running. If it was
like Jackson Smith and Jigba, he's not going to be
He's going to be the one setting all the records.
But now Jackson Smith and Jigma's blowing that stuff, blowing

(10:47):
that stuff out of the water, and good for Seahawks fans. Basically,
I mean, I don't think anybody is you know, sitting
here wishing that they had him back at thirty million
dollars a year so that he can get personal foul
penalties and we can hope that at some point reaches
his ceiling. But back to the kind of the idea
or the situation at hand, I'm with you. There's a

(11:10):
way in which you could handle it, which is very easy.
You just ignore them, right, And it's hard.

Speaker 5 (11:15):
It doesn't feel like I mean, you know, it doesn't
feel good to let someone just get away with saying
horrible things to you.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
No, doesn't feel good.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
And I mean for the sake of I mean, I'm
not one hundred percent sure the guy would have said
it or did say it somebody. There is people that
would say those things, and those people are not good people,
and it would be nice if they get caught, if
they're at a venue and they're saying things like that
to the athlete and get it, you know, kicked out.
And I don't know how you keep somebody from ever
coming back. Whenever they say somebody's banned forever. Yeah, it's

(11:45):
facial recognition when you walk into a stadium, But how
do they keep you out? Right, You're gonna have somebody
else buy the ticket. Your name never has to go
near it. You can just go walking in with the
rest of the herd. But the idea of you're out
here for this game. We just heard you call him
the N word, or we've heard what she called his mom.
If we're going to take DK at his word that

(12:06):
that was said, that's unfortunate. And yesterday I said, I
how during my career I was an easy target for heckling. Right,
It just with my name and what it rhymes with,
and being kind of a bigger guy. And I had
a you know, propensity to strike out, and so there'd
be I'd be the beer batter of the game, right

(12:27):
where if you strike out, beers are on sale for
the next half inning or something. Well, they would do that,
and I loved it. Like some I had teammates that
hated it. It added pressure. They didn't like the fact
that when they get two strikes the crowd really comes
alive because they want cheaper beer. Yeah, I loved it.
I mean I ate it up. I had sometimes when
people would maybe toe the line of going over the

(12:48):
top right where I don't know if fat shaming is
necessary now, that's completely different than a racial slur right
like in today's well in no time should it have been. Okay,
But I mean fifty years ago it was more common.
It was all the time, right. I mean, if you
when when African Americans got put in yet you know,

(13:11):
we're allowed to play in sports, they got abused.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
When you say fifty years ago, I felt like that
was a really long time ago. That was still the eighties. Yeah,
that's how old we are, right.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Yeah, well seventy seventy seven, so it is even longer
than fifty years ago.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
There years ago.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, but even fifty years ago, it wasn't good. It
wasn't it wasn't fun. It was worse for a black
athlete back then than it is now. That said, that
doesn't mean that, hey, since it's so much better, you
rarely get called that that you should just let it
roll off your back. No, it's not, it's not okay,
I'm not okay. So, if DK was telling the truth

(13:48):
that the guy said that, I can see why you'd
want to punch him in the face, right, he deserves
to be punched in the face. You just can't do it,
right then, correct, you can't. I mean, you can not
do it. It's unprofessional. And you're right, it's not even
about the money. It's not about but it's not about
the principle either. It's about you have you and your

(14:12):
name that you need to stand on, right. I mean,
as a kid, when I was growing up, there was
one of the big rules was do not embarrass our family,
meaning don't do things that you know would come back
and shine a light as to my mom or dad
being like, we didn't raise you like that, like that,
like if I ever had that. I got caught stealing
one time. I don't know why, I decided to steal

(14:33):
some weightlifting gloves when I was twelve, and it was
the butt whoop and I got and the grounding for
the entire summer was not because necessarily that I tried
to take something that was twelve dollars and I didn't
pay for it. It was the principal behind we didn't
raise you. You're not a thief. We didn't raise you

(14:56):
that you can just take something even if you don't
have the money for it. We didn't raise you in
a way in which you're going to act like that.
And so it was the embarrassment to the name right
to my my family's name, that it was like, you're
going to you're gonna pay for this one, gonna you're
gonna feel this punishment. This is going to be more
than your average go to your room and think about
what you did type of thing. And and to me,

(15:18):
so that sticks with me, and that's kind of part
of the reason why when we talk about all kinds
of different topics, I have a hard time with athletes
more so today. Not to say it hasn't always been there,
because you've had athletes that have have clap back at fans.
You've had athletes that have have done something like this before,
wanted to go into the stands, tried to go into

(15:39):
the stands. You've had stuff like this happen. But it
seems more now like there's the talk is more, for sure,
whether it's the talk amongst competitors on the field is more,
and then that the emboldened fan is more. They can't
wait to say stuff and they will. The line has
been pushed further to where they I think they can

(16:00):
get away with doing more. And then the response to
it or the players not having the ability to just
turn around and ignore it and just take it as
that's part of the game. You know part of the
entertainment aspect of this. As I play in front of
sixty seventy thousand people, and there's going to be a
nice little chunk them that are giant a holes. They're

(16:21):
going to say stuff that they shouldn't and MY job
is to just go out and continue to perform for
those that aren't a holes while that guy gets to watch.
I just have to ignore it and let it go.
And yet he just doesn't have the ability to do that,
which is a bit worrisome because the real world is
still out there, right, You're still living in the real world.

(16:42):
Even though you get to play a job and make
fantasy money while you just get to run around and
play football, you still are in the real world, and
majority of your life is going to be lived in
the real world. And I don't feel like this guy
has a temperament that allows him to really what's the
word like kind of gauge how am I supposed to act?

(17:06):
Based on this situation at hand. I feel like he
really misses the boat on certain things. And it's unfortunate
because I don't know for sure if you can teach
this age dog a new trick of how dude you
got to get yourself under control, man, because you're I
just I fear it's the Antonio Brown effect kind of right,
like you just for some reason, it feels like there's

(17:29):
a lot of athletes nowadays that because they live in
this world of I am pretty special, that it translates
outside of the game, and when you're not even playing
the game, you're standing on the sidelines. I don't have rules.
The rules of society don't necessarily pertain to me. And
I just don't think that's the case. And I think
that you end up running into a bunch of hardships

(17:50):
if you do think that's the case. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (17:52):
Well, and I think in just in this situation too,
it's you know, there's so many videos out there, and
you can't hear this guy say the words that DK
has said. He's said right, so unless he said it
up close and nobody can hear it.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
There's one thing there, right.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
The other thing is DK notoriously has put himself above
his teammates, and here's another situation of him doing it
to an extreme level where now he is actually detrimental
to his team. They have two games left, they're trying
to make the playoffs, and now he's pending an appeal,
gonna miss him both. And then on top of that,
he's detrimental to himself in his livelihood because of what

(18:29):
he's done. And it's like you saw these small glimpses
of it on a much smaller scale when he was here. Right,
gets whine, he whinds when he doesn't get the ball
thrown his way, he gets angry when defenders get under
his skin, and those are the things that really, for
how long he's been in the league, somebody should have
been working with him on that, because it's so easy

(18:51):
for people to get under his skin, and so's there's
really no excuse for why this happens. And then you
need to think too as as the professional athlete. You
know what, it's ridiculous that these fans think because they
bought a ticket, they can say whatever they want to
us and we have to take it. I agree, that
is ridiculous, and I have no place in my heart
for a fan who thinks that they are owed that

(19:14):
because they paid money for a ticket. Right, But you
don't win if you engage, Right. If you don't engage,
you walk away, and then you go score a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Now you just won you shut that fan.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Up right, Yeah, that was where I was going with
the idea of I used to enjoy the idea of
getting backled, and again you kind of wanted to real
quickly correct the idea of me getting made fun of
because I'm big or fat or bald or my name
rhymes with bad words. That's completely different than getting called

(19:50):
the N word. One hundred percent to understand that, right,
the idea. I mean, some people might say fat shaming
is just as bad. I don't necessarily I'm a big guy.
Wasn't he a fat when they were making fun of me?
Not like I am Now, I would say that, yes,
they're not the same, and yet it's the same concept.
The concept is they're trying to get under my skin.

(20:11):
You have a couple options. You can try to ignore
it even though it pisses you off.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
You can engage. You can never engage physically, but you
can engage. I actually because I saw it as an
opportunity to to kind of shut them up. Like when
people you hear me all the time, I don't like
when people are chirping, when they yapping and they talking
a bunch of trash. Why do I not like it
because it almost sets you up for when you go

(20:39):
fail that it makes it doubly bad. Right, you're talking
all this trash and then you go out and get burnt,
or you're talking all this trash and then you go
out there and you fail. To me, it's like, oh man,
that's got to sting twice as bad because you were
talking trash. Well, when a fan starts it would start
with me. I would end up immediately turn around, be like,

(21:00):
I'm so glad you got to come and watch me
play today, right, And then there'd be a couple of
fans laughing around him. He'd be like, oh, he's engaging, okay,
and he'd keep coming back. Well. Inevitably, it's like if
I struck out and he's like, yeah, that's right, you
suck and this happened, I'd be like, yeah, but I
get to go back up there and try to go
yard next time, right, or next time it came on deck,

(21:21):
he would start talking and I'm like, I'm gonna do this.
This one's for you, kid, And then eventually when i'd
hit a bomb, I'd come back and wink at or
tip my cap to and be like, you want to
go get that it's probably like a five dollars cab,
right to go get that ball? Right? Can you go
get that for me? Next thing? You know, that whole
section was like a fan of me, not because I engaged,

(21:42):
but because I engaged in a way that was fun
right now, different than being called the N word, I understand.
But I don't think DK is capable of what I
just said. I don't think that he is capable of
taking a Heckler and flipping the script on him and
turn it into I'm going to show you how much
control I have because I don't think.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
Yeah, where it's like you could go catch a touchdown
and then run over and give him the ball, yeah,
and then go back to the bench.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
Yeah. I just unfortunately I don't think he has it.
But no, it is what it is. We will probably
discuss this a little further. We're gonna have a bunch
of people and we got to find out what else
is on tap? What's on tap? What's on tap? All right?
We got a lot going on today. The Mariners did
make a move. We're gonna discuss that. Uh, Philip Rivers,

(22:27):
I did want to talk a little bit about, uh,
the old man going out there and dealing again. Last
night it was in a loss, but he's still dealt.
We're gonna have Greg Bell. We're gonna have Mike k
He's a writer from Charlotte. He's gonna come on and
help us discuss the Panthers. We're gonna have the One
and Only Jean's Territory. We gotta get a little Gene
time in. We're gonna have FITZI on to discuss the
Kraken and the fact they got off the schneid a

(22:48):
little bit with the win last night. Tricky Ricky new Heizel,
We're gonna have him on discuss the college football playoffs.
I want to get Ashley's confidence meter. Where we're sitting
right now with something that comes to the Seahawks. And again,
we're going to talk a little bit more about the
Mariners free agency. But on the other side of this,
we are going to get into the Mariners and their
most recent signing and free agency on the other side

(23:09):
here at Sports Radio ninety three point three KGRFM. Although
that's a pretty funny game.

Speaker 5 (23:13):
Yeah, it is a funny game because people get really
annoyed by that song.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
So I had to play it at least once.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Le Chris, Okay, I had no idea.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Just like a PayPal commercial, you know, you mean twice
every break, every single time we're on, so.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
You'd have to play it like again right now, every.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Bumper in the middle of the segment.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Ago that commercial, I mean, PayPal must be paying a lot.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Yeah, I guess it's it's really something. I'll say that,
it's really something.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
That's why we make so much money.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
Sure, it's always fun when you know every single word
of a commercial because you hear it.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Twice about every single break.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Yeah, so all the listeners out there that do text
in like really PayPal enough enough yea, we get it.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
We're with you.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Yeah, we hear it too. So yeah, that's uh, it
is what it is. But I guess that's what pays
the bills around here, the bills, and I did paypals
of the bills, and I did turn the lights on it.
You see about it your face now, look, you are
so welcome. I love it all right, Well, onto the
topic at hand. Mariners did make a move yesterday. Uh

(24:19):
it's not like Kyle Tucker, but I don't mind this deal.
This this move. They ended up signing Rob Refschneider he's
a kind of a journeyman. I guess you'd say, I
think he's thirty four years old. Thirty four, Yeah, I
think he turns thirty five on opening Day. Okay, kind
of a career backup dude has not really ever had

(24:41):
a season that he goes out and puts up any
sort of crazy numbers. Not known for his defense, but
he is known to be able to play a lot
of different positions. He can place, you can play anywhere
in the outfield, not great birth catch most of the balls.
He's played a little bit second, and he has he
can play some first base. And so I think this

(25:01):
is a move where you got yourself a bit of
you have a utility guy, but not for defense, just
because you can put him in anywhere. And he rakes
left handed pitching. I mean he's one of the better
right handed hitters against lefties as far as his hard
hit rate. I mean, he's up there. I think it

(25:23):
was Luke Arkins had wrote an article on it that
I had read earlier this morning, I think, and he
was I don't remember the numbers exactly, and I don't
have in front of me. I should have pulled that up.
If I'm going to reference it, but it was something
along the lines of there was three hundred hitters that
had this minia bats against lefties, and he was like,
he was like twentieth or twenty fifth as far as

(25:44):
hard hit rate amongst all of them. I mean with
basically like Kyle Tucker, Kerry Carpenter, the guy that we
all hate because he's really good, really good and good looking. Yeah,
like you need things, Yeah exactly. How about you be
as big strike out guy if you're gonna look.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Like, yeah, come on, man, look at my smile. It's
really great.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Yeah, and I just hit game winners. How's that taste?

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Oh yeah, suck it.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Yeah. So he's up there with him as far as
hard hit rate and whatnot, at least against left handed pitching.
So it's kind of one of those you have check
a box. I mean, it's at a minimum, I think
it raises the bar of your bench, ok, right, Like
which matters over the course of one hundred and sixty
two games. You're gonna need to give Josh Naylor a breather.

(26:31):
At some point in time. He can fill in there,
He could play some second, He can play anywhere in
the outfield. I think He's probably a guy that you
could put just about anywhere. Not shortstop, obviously, not catcher,
but I think you could put him just about anywhere.
He's going to not be great there, but he's going
to do the job when he gets up to bat.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
So he's not gonna be like an everyday guy.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
I don't think he's gonna be in every day.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
Okay, So he's just gonna be the person that they're
kind of putting in to give people rest or fill
a hole if somebody knock on it gets hurt.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
I think he'll be your left handed I think he
I think he'll be your DH going into spring training.
Right now, I think he's your DH. You pencil in
every time there's a lefty start, okay, and then he's
coming off the bench against a lefty reliever if he
isn't in the game, because he's that good. So your best.
The best thing he's bringing to the table is his
offense against lefties.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
So it to me then brings up the idea of okay, well,
then whose our DH against right handed pa?

Speaker 2 (27:27):
Oh, do we have to we have to have one
for both sides of the players.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
Well that or I mean his splits are significantly different.
I had them pulled up his his against right handers,
he's hitting two twenty nine. This is over the course
of you know, his entire career, which is it's been
a decent career, but it's still limited amount of bats.
Eight hundred bats or so. He's got a two twenty
nine batting average against the righty's versus a two eighty

(27:50):
one against lefties. Okay, significantly more power production, everything that
he brings to the table. He's really good against lefties
and not so much. And so to me, the first
name that popped into my.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Head, rights against righties you're talking about.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Yes, against righty's, was Carlos Santana. Yes, I mean older.
We like what he brings to the clubhouse. We know
he fits in there.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
We know they love him.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
He's still he still keeps like fighting father time. Like
everybody's like, well he's old, we can't.

Speaker 5 (28:21):
And then every year you see him at least have
a couple of highlights on Sports Center doing something.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Yeap. So I mean that's a way where this is
just a one year deal. By the way, the Mariners
sign Rob Refschneider for one year, six and a quarter
mill I mean, you go out there, maybe get I
don't know how much. Carlos Santana would be eight million
bucks or something like that. So you're paying fourteen million
bucks for a dh Okay, you get two of them,

(28:46):
two for the price of.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Two for the price one. We put them up there
at the same time.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
I don't think so. I think that's against the rules. Okay,
it's not a bad idea. I wouldn't want to go
up there. That would really suck it fouls one off.
You're both swinging. Oh no, web gb Yeah, it makes
you shake, you know, isn't that? Isn't that what you
call those hebgb's usually Oh, heb gbs.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (29:12):
I've never heard.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
I don't know Hermiston we say the web gbs. Maybe
we don't. I think he be GB's is right. I
just called it the web GB's, all right. Well, I
don't want to give anybody else the web gbs because
I just got them and it made me. It made me,
It gave me goosebumps, all right, way, No, not in

(29:37):
a good way at all. Well, we got to witness, uh,
the old Man Rivers experiment again last night, and I
saw some folks out there tweeted us saying, well, now
I feel a lot better about our defense after watching
him dice that up. I got. I got a couple
of questions to ask Ashley about father time and old
man rivers if he could beat it stick around here

(29:58):
at Sports Radio ninety three point three k RFM.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
Look called long lead feed broken up.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Tobenen got what ahead everly with.

Speaker 7 (30:06):
The empty Nati Scars sword and every whipboards delivers a
big blow and it could be the final one thirty
five seconds left in regulation as every breaking the time
we're back to back goals and the crack and take

(30:28):
a three to one lead.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
That was the McDelivery of the game. Last night's call
from the Krack and Audio Network, brought to you by McDonald's.
Ordering the food you crave with McDelivery is a whole
new way to love McDonald's. Ordered directly for McDonald's app
and select McDelivery today, or start earning poorts, or and
start earning points for free food. See a for details.
A good game, good game. They won. Can't wait to

(30:53):
talk to FITZI and find out what that means if
that's if that means we're off the schneid. We're ready
to rock and roll. Really, a couple of goals there,
an empty netter like that, a couple of injuries to
speak of. I'm sure, I Fitz, you'll have all the
information that we need. We will get to that right now.
We're going to get to some highlights besides the crack
and win. They won three to one last night over

(31:13):
the Ducks. I don't mind saying the Ducks lose and
that when it comes to hockey.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
I don't mind it either.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
That's that's it. That's it. No, that's that's the only
time I don't I don't like it. I did notice.
I listened to the MJ Show on the way home
yesterday because you were on, and you guys, that's one thing.
You guys are right, two peas in a pod.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
When it comes to hating the Ducks, Apparently he hates
them just as much as I did, which is weird
because I did not think that, and I don't mean
it weird in a bad way. I just would be
surprised that people from the East Coast have the disdain
for the Ducks that he knows.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
I think he just knows that people around here a
lot of them hate the Ducks. Maybe, so he's like,
I think I'll hate them too.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Oh, it's a smart move if you want people to
like you.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Yeah, it's not and it's not working. But anyways, anyways,
we don't need to go there. We do other headlines.
DK get suspended for the rest of the regular season
for kind of punching, trying to punch, somewhat punching, basically
having poor interaction with a fan, whether it's whether the
person said something or not. You can't do that, and

(32:17):
the league came down on him with basically suspended him
in the last two games of the regular season. But
they're in the middle of a playoff race to win
their division. And the big kicker is that that kicks
in some detrimental conduct clause that basically does it makes
forty five million of his contract that was guaranteed no

(32:38):
longer guaranteed. So we will see if that comes back
to haunt him. I kind of hope it doesn't, but
at the same time, I hope that at least the
fear of it makes him pull his head out of
his button. Understand, there's just certain things you can and
can't do when you're a professional athlete. So we shall see. Basically,
not yesterday, but I think the day before the Minnetaka
Muracawi Murkami signed with the White Sox two years, not

(33:04):
coming no White Sox. I don't understand it really, to
be honest, because it's such a friendly deal compared to
what he was asking for or what he was expected
to make. I mean, he was talked about it's like
forty million dollars a year. Guy, he signed for two
years for seventeen million bucks.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Oh, that a disappointment for him, I'm sure.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Yeah, Well, disappointment for him, kind of disappointing for Mariner
fans that I mean, I know Chuck's gonna have something
to say about it when he's back on Friday, I'm sure,
because that just seems like a really really good deal. Now,
you could get him for two years a White Sox's
get him for his two years while he gets his
feet wet and figures out what big league pitching's all about,
and then he's gonna hit the free agent market and
be able to kind of do whatever. He's gonna get

(33:44):
whatever he earns. Basically in that on the heels of
that deal, to some degree, the Mariner's justually signed Rob
Refschneider to a one year deal six and a quarter
million dollars. Basically, he's going to be your DH against
left handed pitching, and he can kind of fill in
to give other guy's days off. He can play outfield,
and he can play second a little bit. And he's

(34:06):
not good anywhere defensively, like really good anywhere, but he
can he can rake against lefty, so that will be
a It's a nice piece. It's a piece. It's not
a big piece, but it's a piece. So yeah, we'll
go ahead and take that. But now it's time where
we get to talk to the one and only g Ragbell.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
With a bell tolls.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
It must be seven o'clock and time for twelfth Man
News with Greg Bell. Brought to you by Copola Diamond
Collection Prosecco Chris Sparkling with Bright Fruit flavors to make
every toast shine Game Day Bubbles only with Copola Diamond Prosecco.
Now with twelfth Man News, here's Greg Bell with Chuck
and Bud.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
Greg. Good morning, how are you, sir?

Speaker 8 (34:51):
Good morning Mary, Early Christmas.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
To all of you. Christmas to you as well. Have
you did you make your bed bounce quarter off this morning?
I have yes, do you really? Do you really make it?
Do you make it good enough like that?

Speaker 4 (35:06):
Or no?

Speaker 8 (35:07):
No, not anymore?

Speaker 1 (35:08):
But you still make it.

Speaker 8 (35:09):
But yeah, let's throw the sheets back over it. I
wouldn't say it out a quarter.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Of that's all right, that's better than what most do.
And I think that's a really good way to start
your day, is making your bed. I think that that's
something that a lot of people should do. I had
to do it as a child, and then I stopped
doing it as an adult, and now as an older person,
I'm like, I do that again. Go ahead and throw the.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Sheets to make my husband's stole in it when I leave.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
Yeah, I just throw the sheet. Actually, half the time
I don't even do that, but my wife ends up
doing it so my bed is made. But yeah, I
still try to do it just a little bit, a
little bit up. Keep you right, you got to you
got to raise your kids to take care of their stuff. Anyway, Well, yeah,
you're right. Merry Christmas, Early Christmas. This is our last
show before we get a couple of days off. And
and you don't necessarily get those days off.

Speaker 8 (35:58):
I don't, but.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
I guess that's good for everybody else because everybody's concerned
or turned on excited about the Seahawks. So coming into
this where you get a little bit of a mini buy,
what'd you learn yesterday when they got back to work, Well, they.

Speaker 8 (36:15):
Just went back to meetings. They didn't actually practice, and
because it's a Sunday game, they don't have to have
an injury report, and they didn't have any media access
for us, so we weren't out there. So it was
a pretty quiet day Seahawks considering. The biggest development was
the forty nine ers keep winning one last night over
the philip Rivers is so that's status quo the NFC West,

(36:37):
as great as the winner of the Rams was for
the Seahawks and how they did it. As Mike McDonald
gathered the team around him in the locker room after
the game Thursday night, he said, we've got more work
to do, and he's right. If they lose Sunday to
a Carolina team that's playing for the NFC West titled
NFC South title, excuse me, and just beat Tampa Bay

(36:57):
at home. If Carolina was game, the Seahawks are right
back to where they were before the Rams game, because
the Rams hold the tiebreakers and the forty nine Ers
hold the tie breakers in a three team tie in
the NFC West. It's the forty nine Ers have made
it so that the Seahawks can't coast, and they weren't

(37:19):
going to coast anyway, most likely under Mike McDonald, but
they can ill afford to lose. If the simplest way
to put it is that the Seahawks win these last
two games, they are the number one seed in the NFC,
they win the division for the first time since twenty twenty,
they get to buy and they get two potentially two
home playoff games to the Super Bowl. If they lose now,
because the forty Nineers keep winning, there's a possibility that
they could fall from the one seed to the sixth

(37:41):
seed in the second wild card, the next to last
seed in the NFC, and that's what the forty nine Ers, Rams,
and Seahawks are jockeying for the last two weeks. San
Francisco gets Chicago on Sunday night, while the Seahawks will
have already played Carolina and the Rams had the easiest
rode home with anybody. They play Arizona and Atlanta. They're

(38:05):
at Atlanta Monday night, and they host the Cardinals six
and nine team and A three and eleven, three and
thirteen teams.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
So it's suffice to say the Seahawks have.

Speaker 8 (38:14):
To keep winning to get what they want, which is
a shorter direct home bound route to the super Bowl,
and that San Francisco games both teams win this weekend
forty nine ers in Seahawks, that San Francisco Seattle game
in Santa Clara Week eight, team will be for everything
for the number one seed for the NFC West. It
probably will be on Sunday Night Football in NBC to
end the NFL regular season.

Speaker 5 (38:35):
Greg I wondered this after the Seahawks Colts game, if
there was any chance that even su you know, subconsciously,
the Hawks were possibly looking past the Colts because they'd
had that Rams game circled on their calendar since the
top first time they'd met up. I have to believe
they really want that first game against the forty nine
ers back if they could take it. Is there any

(38:57):
possibility I would assume not because of everything that's on
the line, But is there any possibility that this team
comes out flat because they're kind of looking past the
Panthers this weekend.

Speaker 8 (39:08):
Well, I could see them starting slowly, Ashley, because of
the layoffs and the something kind of letdown from what
happened last week and the Christmas holiday, in the fact
they're not going to practice Thursday, they're practicing today, they're
practicing tomorrow, they're not practicing Thursday, They're practicing Friday and
traveling Friday. So it's an odd week in that regard.

(39:29):
It would not surprise me if then fly all the
way all the way to Charlotte and play at ten
am Pacific time start and look ragged to begin, and
I've won't surprised. They've done it many times without these
factors and going on, and it will not surprise me
if fans are throwing things at their TV set in
the first half of the game in Carolina. It wouldn't
surprise me if they're trailing or tied or in a

(39:50):
six to sixth tie like they were with I can't
remember the games anymore. It was six' six against somebody
going into The atlanta they excuse, me it was six
six at. Halftime it was zero zero in the second
quarter Against. Minnesota it would not surprise me if the
current number one seed in THE nfc has trouble getting
going Against, carolina but The panthers have gotten their attention

(40:14):
by what they've done recently and the fact that they
beat A Tampa bay team In charlotte last, weekend The
Tampa bay team that came out here and Beat. Seattle
So mike McDonald is so focused on the process over the.
Results his whole mantra to these guys, is let's keep
the process. Straight let's perfect our process so that the
results take care of. Themselves that comes in handy in

(40:37):
weeks like. This he's changed the process a little. Bit
he's given them all the weekend off, day Had, Friday
saturday And sunday off before they came back. Yesterday they're
going to Have thursday. Off the process is, changing but
in terms of the actual mechanics of the. Practicing but
the focus on doing themselves right and doing their way
right should come in handy when the game gets going On.

(40:57):
Sunday BUT i bet it's.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
Going to be a. Struggle, yeah makes. SENSE i mean
they are human after. ALL i, mean, Right Derek hall
ends up he appealed that suspension for stepping on a
guy's leg that was upheld and so he'll be. Out
how big of a deal is, THAT i, MEAN i
know he's mixes, in, RIGHT i mean he's he mixes
in and he plays significant amount of. Time how big

(41:19):
of a loss is? That and who steps up in his?

Speaker 8 (41:21):
Place, well it's not as big a factor because they
have a guy Named nicki Min orriy. Now and really
you could say if nick if the C r slews
an outside, linebacker a middle, linebacker a, safety a nickel
corner or even at times a defensive end Pluged nicki
Mon orry in the so of that. Role so they

(41:41):
have such a depth now With wooln playing well of
extra defensive backs that they can and often, do pull
one of their linebackers off the. Field, anyway part of
the Reason Derek college is one sack this year is
because of. That he's getting fewer pass rush opportunities because
they're using All Demon worry And Woolen witherspoon and the
Front ford has been as good as it's, Been SO

(42:04):
i hate to say For Derek, hall but not as
big a deal the way The seahawks are playing defense
and how effective they are with the strength of their
team being in the.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
Secondary, Yeah, Okay, Well i'm with you on, that and
so that's good news because yesterday had said that nickimn
worry even after he bunked his, head he probably could
have came back in had they, needed had they not
went down there and touched down two point conversion and
walked it. Off but that, SAID i, mean the speculation

(42:33):
is That Kobe bryant could miss some, time and so
now you can't plug him into both those. PLACES i
don't think he can play well linebacker and strong safety
at the same. Time maybe maybe he's that, Talented BUT i,
mean are we looking at something because of the injuries
slash now suspensions where you might be getting Thin.

Speaker 8 (42:53):
Well, SURE i mean if you are down multiple, starters
everyone feels. That and The seahawks lost The Tampa bay
down four starters and the defense got shredded for thirty eight.
Points so, yeah it has, effect but there. Isn't we'll
know more in the next couple of days About Kobe bryant's.
Knee Rieke woolands seems okay with his knee. Issue he

(43:14):
left the game too at the end of the of
My pritchett was playing an extra. Corner sometimes at the
end of the game against The. Rams bryan's a big,
deal a bigger, DEAL i would say Than Derek. Hall
Kobe bryant is a mainstay now in the back of the.
Defense he's a very sure. Tackler he's been around the
ball off and getting more turnovers than he did in
his first couple of. Years McDonald loves. Him he's assignment.

(43:38):
Sound he held the four down in the back When
Julian love missed about a month and a half or
actually more nine. Games he did what nine of the
first twelve And Tyle katta had to play. Safety that
the rock through all that Was Kobe, bryant and that's
a bigger. Deal and he's an every down tackle against the,
run cover, guy tackler three yards to, catch stopping Those

(44:02):
he's a big piece to what they do in the back,
end and that to me is the biggest of the
injury concerns they have at the.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
Moment, GREG i got to ask you a, question The
Pro bowl votes Or Pro bowl.

Speaker 5 (44:14):
TEAM i guess this has come out this morning, already
and we've got a lot of people on the. Team
they've GOT. Jsn it looks Like Devin witherspoon made. It
Sam Darnold DeMarcus, Lawrence Leonard williams and Then Rashid shaheed as.
Well does that just kind of show that, maybe you,
KNOW i think nationally The seahawks are just getting a

(44:36):
little bit more attention than they than they were expected
to get at the beginning of this, year and that
as quiet as it kind of has, been it's really
now more of a ground.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
Swell, well, yeah.

Speaker 8 (44:47):
Absolutely and the win the other night's another example that
on national. Television but, sure and they had a convincing
win on national television Against. Washington on The East, coast
there were a bunch Of East coast AND fi writers
and personalities that were at that game In washington and
saw first hand what they were. Doing and there's still

(45:08):
A Southeast alaska reputation to The, seahawks and they're so
far out here and they're not always on the big.
Stage well they've. Been you, Win you win twelve of
your first fifteen, games and this is what comes with.
It and there are years that the team isn't twelve
and three that a lot of guys that should make
The Pro bowl. Don't for those who don't, know it's
a combination of fan, voting player voot and coaching voting

(45:30):
and the fan voting is at least one third of.
It and when the team's not doing well and other
fans teams don't see The seahawks ON tv because they're
not on national, television don't get flexed to, it don't
get primetime. Game that has a cumultive effect of people
not knowing about the. Guys tough to Ignore Jackson smith
And jigga this, YEAR i would tell you that just

(45:53):
off the list you read, ME i don't know How
Jason myers doesn't make.

Speaker 4 (45:56):
It.

Speaker 5 (45:57):
WELL i, was, yeah if they haven't put him out,
there SO i don't know if maybe, They BUT i
mean If shaheed's, out he was there on special, teams
SO i would, YEAH i don't.

Speaker 1 (46:05):
Know.

Speaker 8 (46:06):
Yeah Jason myers is close to having, these competing for
having the most field goals in a season IN nfl.
History he's twenty three of his last twenty, four entering
The rams game with the only miss sixty yards against The.
Rams at the end of the, game as soon as
The seahawks cross, midfield they're starting to get In Jason
myers's makeable field goal. Range he to me is as

(46:29):
big asset as anything The seahawks Have if they can
get three points out of crossing, midfield that's a. PLUS i,
mean that's a big. Asset it changes the way teams,
defend the changes the way the offense calls. Plays SO
i would say he deserves beyond. It but let's be.
Real The Pro bowl is at farce and there is
No Pro bowl, game and it's just a bunch of flag.
Football and the only reason is players can we talk

(46:51):
about it is because it has contract implications and all
the players have clauses in their deals that if you
get A Pro, bowl you get more.

Speaker 4 (46:57):
Money so that's the big deal.

Speaker 8 (47:01):
Here and there'll be a bunch of guys who opt
out and don't want to go down and play flag
football for a couple of, days and then other dudes
will get put on, it And Jason myers might get
on it for, that and then he becomes A Pro
bowl and gets his. Contracts in the, end, however Many
Pro bowl slots there are thirty plus four team it
ends up being one hundred guys getting contract bonuses out

(47:22):
Of Pro bowl selections because of people who get put
in his alternates and.

Speaker 1 (47:27):
Whatnot but the.

Speaker 8 (47:29):
Recognition in the, LEAGUE i will say, This the recognition
in the league has because of how The Pro bowl
is so just a farce, now The All pro is
the designation that gets, everything all the, Attention it gets
the most, money contract, time negotiation, time free agency. Time
And i'm talking first Team All. PRO a lot of
people throw around second Team All. Pro there there's no

(47:50):
such thing as second Team All. Pro you're either a
first Team All, pro you're not An All. Pro and
it's The All pro designation that separates, guys and it's
The All pro designations that lead To hall Of fame
consideration the best of the. Best The Pro bowl has
kind of been, LIKE i don't, know the participational orange
slices OF nfl football. Lately the actual crux of awards

(48:13):
and elite is The All pro, voting and that'll come
in season after the.

Speaker 1 (48:17):
Season at all, Right Gea ashley AND i are going
to do this exercise a little bit. Later we just
kind of confidence level in earning that number one, seed
getting the buy home field. THROUGHOUT i, mean you've already
kind of discussed. It the Idea seahawks Have panthers and Then,
Niners rams have The falcons this weekend and then The
cardinals probably the easiest path to to And ozero and

(48:41):
the forty nine ers have The bears this weekend and
then the pivotal game against The hawks to finish it.
UP i, mean how confident would you be if you
were not a writer but just a fan of The
seahawks that they're going to be able to get this
thing done and hold?

Speaker 8 (48:55):
Serve If i'm A seahawks, Fan i'm worried as. Hell
it's about the forty nine ers. Game they've bought seven
of eight to them every time they played the forty nine,
ers and they allowed them a half dozen. Years they've
been absolutely butt kicked on the offensive and defensive. LINES i,
mean the line of scrimmage is they've been just run.
Over if you just sit back and watch the line

(49:17):
of scrimmage And seahawk forty nine, ers including the opener this,
season the forty nine ers have absolutely had their.

Speaker 1 (49:23):
Way that has.

Speaker 8 (49:25):
Changed And i've said this a thousand. Times the reason
they Hired mike McDonald is to beat The rams and
the forty nine. Ers they finally beat The rams after
losing to him last. Month they haven't beaten the forty
nine ers, yet not when it, counts including in the
playoffs a few years ago With Gino smith as their.

Speaker 4 (49:42):
Quarterback it's WHAT.

Speaker 8 (49:45):
I wrote this morning in The News. Tribune they're not.
Done as great as that win, was they are not
done because if they don't beat the forty nine, ers
they're a six, seed and it's a tough, road and
they can win all the games on the, road and
they can beat the three teams they'll probably have to,
face but the last team you'll have to beat to
get the Super bowl will be on the road At
San francisco Or Los. Angeles most likely THE Nfc west

(50:05):
winner is most likely going to be the number one.
Seed so The seahawks are going to play these guys.
Again they're gonna play The rams again most likely if
they keep winning to the, end AS i, said probably
the conference title. Game they have not yet proven to
themselves that they can beat the forty nine. Ers and
as many injuries As San francisco has, had Including Fred
warner And Nick bosa and defense Now nick or excuse,

(50:28):
me brock perty is back from his. Time Miss christian
McCaffrey hasn't, run and then they can't pass the way
they have. Now christian McCaffrey suddenly has all kinds of
all purpose. Yards that is a big problem For seattle
and it is A i'd be worried if not The
seahawks man.

Speaker 4 (50:48):
That for all they've.

Speaker 8 (50:49):
Accomplished thus, far they have to still go Into Santa
clair next week and. Win, now The bears can do
The seahawks a, big big favor if The bears can
pull it off And Levi Jeans stadium on Some but
until proven, Otherwise, bucky they haven't won the division yet
until they beat both The rams and forty nine ers
and that last lot of jobs till they have to
do all.

Speaker 1 (51:09):
Right, well suffice it to, say not overly confident about,
that Then, okay that makes. Sense i'm probably right there with,
you all, Right, Greg, well appreciate, it, Man appreciate it
what you do and showing up for us and giving
us the info you do every single. Week go out,
there have a Good christmas and enjoy your. Family thank, you.

Speaker 8 (51:26):
Sir enjoying this, Kid Harry christmas everybody out.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
There, yeah thanks. Man all, right That's Greg bell for
you right. There Greg bell is brought to, you by the,
WAY i MEAN. Mvp you need AN mvp of the.
Party every game needs AN, mvp and this one sparkles
A Copla Diamond Collection. Prosecco it's light as, crispy and
it's always a. Win grab your bubbles and toast every
touchdown Game Day bubbles only With Copala Diamond. Prosecco on

(51:51):
the other side of this, break we're going to get
to dive a little bit deeper into The. Panthers we're
gonna get to talk To Mike Kay he's a writer
out there for The Charlotte. Observer we're going to find
out exactly what The seahawks have in store coming up this.
Weekend on the other, side here IT'S KGr Sports RADIO
KGr ninety three point. Three K jar's a writer for

(52:12):
The Charlotte observer down obviously covering The Carolina. Panthers first of, All,
mike nice to have you with. Us good morning and
have Merry.

Speaker 9 (52:22):
Christmas, yeah good, Morning Mary christmas six for having.

Speaker 1 (52:25):
Me, guys do you want to just break the tie?
Here was That Huey lewis or? NOT i say that
pretty much every song Is Huey lewis BECAUSE i don't
know who writes. Anything, ashley on the other, hand is very?
Knowledgeable AM i? Right or is she? Right H i got?

Speaker 9 (52:40):
NOTHING i got, Nothing, okay me to write about, football,
unfortunately that's ALL i.

Speaker 1 (52:45):
Do all, Right well that's. Fine there you.

Speaker 2 (52:47):
Go so, Now, bucky you can think you're.

Speaker 4 (52:48):
RIGHT i.

Speaker 1 (52:48):
Can, YEAH i can stick with me being. Right that
that's Definitely Huey. Lewis, Anyways, ANYWAYS i will get onto
the stuff the task at hand, Here. Mike The Carolina
panthers right now are playing good. Football obviously have a
lot to play. FOR i don't know for. Sure is
this something that you're surprised by? It to, me it
feels Like Bryce young is coming into his OWN a

(53:09):
lot of people had written him, off maybe after a
couple of subpar years to start his. Career is this
something that you expected to see right? Now them playing,
good meaningful football this late in the. Season, WELL i think.

Speaker 8 (53:21):
They're they're overachieving a little.

Speaker 9 (53:23):
Bit their trajectory was always going to be twenty twenty,
six with the year that they felt like they could
make a legitimate playoff. Run BUT i think they've capitalized
on big wins over The packers and The rams and
then won their fair share of division. Games has put
them in position to being contention down the. Road you,
know this team hasn't been to the playoffs since twenty.

(53:44):
Seventeen they haven't won of division since twenty. Fifteen up
until yes or up Until, sunday they had lost ten
or nine of ten games to The, Buccaneers and so
this has kind of been the dragon they've been trying
to slay for quite some. Time AND i think there's
a lot of optimism Around charlotte right now because of
the when they just got this.

Speaker 5 (54:04):
Weekend is there a lot of optimism Around Bryce young
being the right choice for their future.

Speaker 9 (54:09):
QUARTERBACK i think it's more of the right choice for right.
NOW i think they're definitely going to pick up his
fifth year. Option but the thing is that they don't
have to rush to pay. HIM i, mean when you
look at his fifth year, option it's about half of
What Rock purty is making per. Year so if you
told me you can get the production that he is
putting up right now in a year from now at

(54:30):
the rate of half Of Rock, PURTY i would tell
you that makes a really smart business. Sense that, said
he has been very up and down throughout his. Career
his shortcomings have been well, documented well, documented but over
the last five, games he's put up ten, touchdowns two,
Interceptions it's completing sixty six percent of his passes well

(54:51):
over one thousand. Yards he looks like the guy they
drafted in twenty twenty. Three he just has to keep it,
consistent which has been largely the main problem for him
over the last three.

Speaker 1 (55:03):
Years, mike what is the calling?

Speaker 4 (55:06):
Card if you?

Speaker 1 (55:06):
Will what is This panthers? TEAM i, mean, yeah you
got a young quarterback that's to some degree growing and
and and showing signs that he can lead the. Squad
yet you have a Regal dawdo has been a good pick.
UP i, mean he's doing his. Thing you Got ted,
McMillan that's you, know he's he's kind of your go to,
guy even though you got a couple other guys that

(55:26):
have stepped up as far as your receiving corps. Goes
and then defensively, ADEQUATE i, mean what is the what around?
Here it's it's In, Seattle it's the. Defense it's back
to the defense kind of leading the, charge and then the,
offense while maybe not, consistent can be quite explosive at.
TIMES i, mean what is the calling card or the
mo on this Year's panther.

Speaker 9 (55:46):
Squad this team wants us to run the. Past they're
going to try to run the ball very early and
try to set up vertical downfield. Pros on, defense they're
pretty good in. Coverage they're not really going to get
a boatload of, sacks but if they can stop the

(56:07):
run early and force you to pass a, lot they
will get to the. Quarterback AND i think they're a
team that plays extremely. Hard to The seahawks former assistant
coach And Dave, canalis he has established a great culture
here and guys want to play for him and play
hard tild the.

Speaker 4 (56:25):
Whistle what do you think? That what do you?

Speaker 5 (56:28):
THINK i Guess seahawks fans or The seahawks, themselves we need,
to you, know focus on need to be maybe worried
about as far as playing The, panthers Because i've, watched you,
know just looking at each game each, week there's a
lot there's, inconsistencies, right and So I'M i can't quite
figure this team.

Speaker 4 (56:44):
Out you and, me both.

Speaker 9 (56:48):
My week two week picks have not been. Great they
are a team that one week will have like an
insane triumph and in the next week have like massive disaster.
Right if they go by their recent, pattern the game
against The seahawks will be really. Tough i'm interested to
see What Devin witherspoon's got For tetaroe McMillan And Jalen.

(57:10):
Coker you, know JS n is going to be a
tough go For Mike jackson and J. C. Horn BUT
i think He shaheed has a history of burning this
team deep from when he was With New, orleans and
that's going to be a. PROBLEM i think from from
the same point of The, Seahawks Sam darnold can't be

(57:34):
a gunslinger. Here Mike jackson and J. C horn have
eight interceptions between the two of, them that is tied
for the. Most they're the second most among eb's in the.
League if you put the ball in the air and
in the right, spot J. C horn will pick off the.
Ball Mike jackson has shown a really good ability to

(57:55):
return after making. Interceptions lake And ransom their Rookie state
had a pick to end the game last, week so
they're able to produce turnovers AND i think that's something
you have to always watch out for With Sam garnold
in my experience discovering, him but as well as just his.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
General M, Yeah i'm with you on. THAT i, mean
it does feel like maybe pass rush, wise it's not,
crazy BUT i don't think the numbers always tell the whole.
Truth you can be getting to getting two quarterbacks or
disrupting them and forcing them to throw balls up where they,
shouldn't and if your secondary's picking it, off it's just
as good as having a. Sack and So i'm with

(58:32):
you on. THAT i just did notice the inconsistency part of.
IT i, MEAN i was mentioning that, yesterday how a
team that's doing as well as they are and yet
they got swept By New orleans this. Year that makes you, think,
wow over. Confident maybe we should be going into this.
Thing and yet on the flip side of, it you've
beaten you, Know Green bay and The rams and you,
know just a big one Against Tampa. Bay it's. Different

(58:55):
it's hard to tell who it, is and yet we
will find out Comes. SUNDAY i appreciate you coming on, On,
mike AND i want you to have a very Merry.
Christmas all, right, man thanks you.

Speaker 8 (59:05):
TOO i agree with.

Speaker 1 (59:05):
Guys all, right That's Mike kay with The Charlotte observer.
Again he covers The panthers and gives us a little
bit of insight as to what we have to look
forward to on the other side of the. Break i'm
gonna find out What ashley has to look forward to
coming up here in the next couple of. Days At
Sports radio ninety three point THREE, kgrfm it's time For Checking.

Speaker 3 (59:23):

Speaker 1 (59:45):
Ah, well this is the, time and unfortunately or fortunately for,
us we get this in Before christmas starts around. Here
so happy happy holidays And Merry. Christmas, jeane how you
doing In Happy?

Speaker 4 (59:58):
Holidays? Bucky i'm doing pretty.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Well, guys how are you? Doing i'm doing, Great, ASHLEY
i think is doing. Well we got a downhill stretch
here on This, tuesday and then we get the next
couple of days, off so pretty excited about. That i'm
real quick before we get into any of the, stuff
the stuff that we actually bring you on FOR i
did see on Your twitter page a Little kermit The
frog maybe looking in a. Mirror is this? Cryptic are?

(01:00:24):
You are you pulling an old Man? Rivers are you
coming out of? Retirement is that What i'm reading? Into you?

Speaker 4 (01:00:30):
Know we had the four to twenty five game with
The steelers and The, lions And i'm Watching Aaron rodgers
and reminiscing a little to those, days and then getting
home last night with my lovely wife watching and explaining to,
her you know that he's really not that, old you,
Know and she was kind of agreeing with, me which
was really. Awesome AND i talked with my funnel hands

(01:00:51):
of social media portion of my business and we had
a nice talk and he, GOES i Think i've got
the right one to send out. Tonight so it was
really more of a, Joke. Bucky but you, know you never.

Speaker 1 (01:01:02):
KNOW i never.

Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
Know you never say, never.

Speaker 1 (01:01:04):
RIGHT i think you could pull it. OFF i think you.
COULD i don't know if you want. To it's probably
nice sitting right about this time of, year sitting up
in a, booth you, know just having every one so a,
while Like, geane what do you? Think and you can
just basically throw your buddies under the, bus or you
can you can enlighten us to something or you then
you just sit back down in your, chair maybe gabrir, hut,
coco all that kind of. STUFF i think that sounds

(01:01:26):
a lot more. Comfy you've earned. It now you get
to ride off into the.

Speaker 4 (01:01:29):
Sunset you, know if if they create the segue that's
like you, know has a heater or something AND i
can zoom around without having to, run MAYBE i would consider,
that you know WHAT i. Mean but at this, POINT
i think you're. RIGHT i do like the chair there
in the.

Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
STUDIO i can picture. THAT i, mean maybe it's something
like a souped up little, rascal you know WHAT i,
Mean like you, know you don't want to be in
the little tiny, thing but you know something that like
looks cool and, tough but you just like lean in
a direction and it just rolls you over that. Way
or maybe like you're hanging from that skycam right but
you control and you just like hovering over, everyone like The.

(01:02:03):
OVERLORD i felt LIKE i was on.

Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
A high wire a lot of my. Career, actually you,
know when you are, Reughing so maybe that is Opplicable,
BUCK i THINK i like.

Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
That, yeah all, Right, gino what we got to get.
To we got to get to some of these, topics and,
obviously you, know we typically will find one or two
somewhere along the. Lines in The seahawks, Game, boy we
didn't have to look very. Far fourth down two point conversion.
Attempt uh not. That so this wasn't the final one
that ended up winning the, game but that one that
they end up throwing. It darnald throws it off the helmet,

(01:02:35):
basically and then it bounces forward towards the end zone
And sharboney goes and picks it. UP i mean typically
the angles they showed, us it looked, like, yes it
probably was heading. Backwards if you think if he threw
it right to the, receiver which was sharbon he was
the intended, receiver then it was definitely. BACKWARDS i thought
it maybe was he was going to have to reach

(01:02:56):
towards the line of scrimmage or towards the goal line
to get that. Ball it wasn't a cut and dry
that it was a backwards. Pass did you think they
got that? Right how could they end up making that?
Call and then can you explain all of the weird
stuff that goes into, it considering there's a whistle blow
and how and the heck they come up with. That
did they get it?

Speaker 4 (01:03:15):
Right? Well, yeah you, know at the end of the,
day they did get this. Right and remember too that
a path AND i Think harry McCaulay did a great
job in real. Time those are an easy place to
try to break down and explain to the public and
a quick fashion HAD i really give him puters for.
THAT a parallel pass is also considered a backward. Pass

(01:03:35):
so when we get into man that looks just like,
right you, know dead down the line by, rule that
also is a backward. Pass so many layers to.

Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
This on fourth, down on tries.

Speaker 4 (01:03:46):
Inside of two, minutes if it's a fumble or rule to,
fumble only the fumbler can. ADVANCE a backward pass is.
Different so this is a backward, pass so anyone can
recover this or advance in front of where the backward passes.
Initiated that was the one one element to. It the
other piece of this really and it's the officiating place

(01:04:08):
where you want to hope that as these technological additions
by replay or now can get involved and kind of
get it right and how does that affect the officials
on the field to reperea play like that in real
time in the best way they, can understanding that there
may be this other element that could take place after

(01:04:29):
the actual play is. Finalized those are really difficult things
to try to learn because these are new innovations that
have happened in the last few, years and they've countered
everything that, officials most, officials especially old ones like, me
that didn't a replay situations like. This it's the ability
in those types of plays where your reaction on the,
field or your bet reaction is if you, think you

(01:04:51):
know that's a forward pass both or whist with Incomplete
back in the old, days that's what we, did and
our kind of quote on that, was you know, what
you've got to sell the call well in these situations
quick pass fumble on a. Quarterback is the runner down
by contact before the ball comes? Loose is it a
forward or backward pass in this. Scenario your gut may
tell you that feels a little. Forward but because of

(01:05:13):
what we have in addition to those, things, now you
want that whistle to stay out of the, play right
because players are coached to play through a whistle because
they can't see whether a play is down or. Not
they're playing through the. Whistle officials are trained to say
that whistles don't necessarily have to kill. Plays if you
think it's forward, progress give them another step or, two

(01:05:34):
then blow your. Whistle so there's a weird dynamic in
there where where officials don't want to blow the whistle too,
quick but players are going to play through the. Whistle
and this kind of went in the other direction WHERE
i think the official reacted a little too quickly with
his or her, Whistle and then you have to go
into that other little space which is in the immediate

(01:05:55):
continuing action after the play has been ruled. Over if something,
happens then immediately after that we can put that into the.
Play even though the whistle blew or they ruled them,
down or those situations took, Place all of those elements
took place at that. Moment And charbonneaud doesn't look like
he's diving on the football right like he thinks it's

(01:06:16):
a backward, Passer AND i mean he casually goes over
and he kind of picks the ball, up and quite,
honestly really again in this nerdy referee, world had he
picked that football up at the half yard line and
walked into the end. Zone that would not have counted
because you don't get the advancement. There so the fact
that he literally was kind of just in the end

(01:06:38):
zone and the ball just was over the goal line
when he possessed. It in the immediate continuing, action after
all the reviewing and all of, that they get that
football where he possessed, it which happened to be in
the end zone in this. Case so, again a lot
AND i KNOW i probably was way longer Than Brad
allen was explaining it in real. Time is that many

(01:07:01):
layers to that. Play but at the end of the,
day they got it.

Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
RIGHT i think the interesting thing That i've been seeing,
though is not even that The rams fans are mad
that they got it right or that it, happened but
that the rule exists in the first. Place, like that's
What i've been seeing everyone complain about that that rule
is even there in the first.

Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Place, yeah and you're right to see.

Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
It and again some of this is my age and
being an old school. GUY i really enjoyed the fact
that we didn't have a lot of replay types of
scenarios back then because it was a way more uncomfortable
place to, be, where, look if your decision in real
time is your, decision and they're going to live with that.
Decision as uncomfortable as that, was AS i grew in my,

(01:07:43):
CAREER i realized that that was kind of WHAT i
was addicted, to is being put in that. Situation so
when we watch games and we, say, yeah there's a
human condition in all of, this but not in these,
scenarios because now we can go away from the whole
action in the game and the human reactions and what
was the result of those, decisions and we can bring

(01:08:04):
technology in and reviews in and angles in and change.
It it does feel a little, different, Right but, look
the stakeholders and every level of football and a lot
of other, sports basketball as, well know the decisions they've
made are that every play that we can get right
based on the technological advancements we, have we want to

(01:08:25):
put those in the game. Now because the standard for,
officiating unfortunately is perfection and anything below that standard in
many cases for the general public is kind of like quite.
Unacceptable so where do you. Go do you allow the
officials to be human and miss, things or do we
strive for this ultimate, perfection maybe at the expense of

(01:08:46):
the flow of the game or the game. Itself and
SO i can understand, it you, know from a lot
of different, avenues and you want to get it right
right at the end of the day as. Well so that's,
why and that's above my pay GRADE a AND i
leave that up to those those that decide what they
want to do with the.

Speaker 1 (01:09:03):
Game you, know, Well, gemie because of, YOU i expect,
perfection and so if others can't follow a, suit that's on.
Them and you need to come out when.

Speaker 4 (01:09:12):
You Doubt, Bucky you're going to be dempathetic and. SYMPATHETIC
i appreciate.

Speaker 1 (01:09:16):
You you let me down, perfectly is what it. Did
you perfectly let me. Down so, yeah, exactly all, right. Man,
well in that, game, obviously that goes down to the.
WIRE i, mean a crazy comeback by The seahawks in
order to come back from down. SIX i, mean it's
the biggest comeback In seahawks. History multiple things had to
go their, way and yet the one we just talked

(01:09:37):
about was towards the end of the. Game there was
one early in the game that basically is a four
point swing where The rams get a touchdown and it
gets called back because of an ineligible man. Downfield the
the commentators were thinking that shouldn't necessarily have been the case.
There did see it look like the defensive alignment just
kind of pulled him across like they're bumping in to each,

(01:10:00):
other and then he kind of pulled him beyond one?
Yard is That should that have been an elgemblevan? Downfield
was it letter the?

Speaker 4 (01:10:06):
Law?

Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
Yes but shouldn't have? Been or did they get that
one right as? Well you know that this.

Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
Play's got a little more to. IT i hate to
sound Like i'm long winded on some of, these but
these plays do have a lot of elements to. Them
first and, foremost ineligible. Downfield if you are an interior
lineman and eligible by your, position and you go more
than one yard beyond the line of scrimmage without engaging
directly with a defensive player that's in front of. You
you just move more than a yard down the field

(01:10:35):
at the time the ball is released from the quarterback's,
hand then it's an in eligible player. Downfield with, technology
if officials throw a flag on that play, replay then
can review that play because there's a flag on the.
Ground kind of an ineligible downfield penalty hanging and then
replay will relook at, it look at that player and, say,

(01:10:57):
yes he was more than a yard, down they file
for an eligible downfield or, no he wasn't pick it.
Up so we see that happen a little more with this.
Penalty and because of RPOs and the way the game has,
changed there's more of those scenarios happening now in the
last few years of the. GAME i think that's why
they probably implemented and assist there if they flags on the.

(01:11:19):
Ground but then you have that other, element as you,
said and this is where it becomes a little more.
Gray if an offensive, lineman let's, say in this, CASE
i believe it was a right, guard has a defensive
player directly in front of, him and right at the,
snap he blocks that player and drives him without disengaging
four yards down the field and never disengages in the

(01:11:40):
ball leaves the quarterback's, hands it is not an eligible
player downfield because he engaged him within a yard and
maintained that contact throughout the course of the player until
the quarterback released the. Ball this one was really unique
because there was, engagement as you, said like That now
there's this shedding kind of right of the defensive player

(01:12:02):
THAT i don't know if that's where the subjectivity, comes
AND i would assume more than likely from upstairs or
in collaboration with officials on the, field that was he
at a yard and thrown to two? Yards did they
not seek that? Engagement was enough to say that that's
the reason why he was Beyond did he disengage after a?

(01:12:22):
Chip and the other's a little Shed but then the
offensive player took himself another yard down the field under
his own. Volition those are again some subjective elements in that. Piece,
now they came out with that, play but because of
these little, windows that's why the talking heads that look
at this, SAY i can see this go one, WAY

(01:12:43):
i can see this go the other. Way so THEN i,
think when we get into those, spaces do we go
back now to this other principle we, Have, well, okay
we can't really decide definitively one way or the. Other
what did they say on the, Field, well they said
he was downfield and. Eligible then let's go with the
ruling on the. Field so there's a little bit of
layer in. There that was a hard play and ONE

(01:13:04):
i think you could debate on either, End so it's
kind of difficult for me to say black and, white
yes or. No BUT i think that's the process that
took place. There it didn't seem like coach mctay AND
i think they did do a quick little shot of the,
coaches which they usually do when there's a controversial play
because it's kind of good to see the. Reaction, right
it seemed as he kind of accepted it, right or

(01:13:27):
at least as moving to the next one for the.
Moment he didn't see him AS i rate as you
may expect if he thought it was egregiously. Missed but
there's a lot of layers to that play as. Well
but So.

Speaker 5 (01:13:37):
Gene one of the games that are the GAME i
think that had the wildest ending obviously was That Detroit
steelers game and the touchdown that was negated by AN
opi and then when the ref came out and he
was like rolling on the field as a touchdown but
it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
Count there's a lot of people out there being, like,
well that WASN'T.

Speaker 5 (01:13:55):
Opi it looked to me like it was DEFINITELY. OPI i,
mean he pushed. Off, yes there was some, flopping but
get that whole thing.

Speaker 4 (01:14:00):
RIGHT i thought the LAST opi was a good. CALL
i Thought Sam brown did come. OUT i think this
at the top of his. Route. LISTEN i think that
the safety may have Been Jalen, ramsey IF i recall
names correctly in this. Scenario. Right the way THAT i
referee WHEN i was a downfield official early in my
career was defensive backstone inbellish those types of plays that

(01:14:24):
much in that, situation, Right, like it's Not they're not
going to do the soccer flop a second into the
play BECAUSE i can't guarantee that IF i try to
flop or embellish, this there's going to be a. FLAG
i got to make this. Play this is the football.
Game these are people's seasons happening right. Now so the
fact That ramsey did go backward in that fashion that
he did at the contact on that that tells me

(01:14:46):
that there was enough displacement there to material effect that
defensive safety in any illegal fashion to create enough separation
and a quickly time ball to get. It SO i
agree with THE opi call there without a. OUT i
thought there was forward progress quite, HONESTLY i Thought Saint
brown was driven back a little further than you would
allow someone to be driven back before he lateraled To

(01:15:09):
goth who then took it into the end. Zone so
there was a lot of layers. There, now, look if
they called forward progress On Saint brown after the, catch
the irony of that play would have been That Carl
scheffers would have then had to, announce because this was fourth,
down that their ruling on the field would have been
That Saint brown did not make the end zone and

(01:15:31):
progress was called and they would have declined the offensive
pass interference then because the result of the play would
have been a turnover on downs, Right so then you
would have had to put two seconds back on the
clock or three The steelers would have had to take
a knee and the game would have ended that. Way
but because they ruled that that wasn't progress in the

(01:15:53):
end of the play Was gough diving into the end
zone when the clock was at. Zero, now going to
use the offensive foul in that scenario when time expires
in a game and there is a foul by the,
offense accepting that penalty basically ends the. Game And chef
kind of did do what we used to call back

(01:16:15):
in the, day slamming the, audience, Right like IF i
had a few of those where you roll touchdown on the,
field then you come back and realize he fumbled the
ball at the half yard, line there wasn't a clear
recovery in the end. Zone the home team thinks it's you,
know it is a, touchdown and you say after, review
you know the ruling on the field is or the

(01:16:36):
ruling on the field is. Touchdown the crowd, cheers and
then you bring in the dreaded word however and, say
but because of, this, this and, this it isn't a,
touchdown which is kind of what chef did. There so
that'll be a, Discussion i'm sure with the leg, on
let's make sure we wear these things right so we
don't take people to one level of the motion and

(01:16:58):
then bring them way way down to another level of
emotion in a scenario like. That but, yeah, yeah there
were a lot of crazy plays this LAST weeknd for.
Sure that's.

Speaker 1 (01:17:08):
Funny you guys actually have the slam the crowd that
there was an actual term for. It, yeah that was
that was a crowd crowdlam fifteen years.

Speaker 4 (01:17:16):
Ago Buy, yeah it was update.

Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
Myself, Yeah, Yeah i'm with you, THOUGH i think that
they got that right either way that they called. IT i,
mean he catches the ball at the one and ends
up lateraling it at like the six or. SEVEN i was.
SURPRISED i mean that The, steelers as he lateraled, it
were already celebrating that they had stopped him and won
the game Before goff even grabbed it and dove. In
So i'm with, YOU i think they got that right real, Quick,

(01:17:40):
gino or as quick as you want to. BE i
don't really care about the time clock Because i'm filling in,
here so what are they going to?

Speaker 8 (01:17:46):
Do?

Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
Uh but it just THAT dk metcalf. SITUATION i don't
think there's anything as an official that you're responsible for.
There there was no, flag so you can't kick him
out of the.

Speaker 7 (01:17:56):
Game.

Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
Uh but just overarching thoughts on that, SITUATION i feel
like fans are more in boldened now than they ever
have been of saying. Things and yet my personal stance
as a former professional athlete is you just got to
kind of wear, it you, know it's kind of part
of the. Gig you don't get to swing on people
regardless of what they say to.

Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
You i'm with, you, MAN i, mean look AT i
was Arrest, Okay SO i never really lived in that
world except when we came back after the negotiations and
people actually did care about the officials for that window
of time when we were locked, out and then came
back and appreciated. US i have lived a lot of
my career in those stages where there were tons of

(01:18:38):
things that you would hope you'd never have to, hear
and quite, honestly you never think people would say to
you that you just had to leave. Alone and you
know that's just as you, Said. Bucky you were on that,
stage you realized, that and, TRUTHFULLY i think what happens too,
is unfortunately in our climate and, culture it's this shock

(01:19:00):
me click bit kind of what CAN i say to
really get someone's attention, now whether it's a tweet or
whether it's a verbal. Thing people used to say things
WHEN i was really young in the stands that were not.
Great but then you'd see a lot of people in
the stands kind of look at that person, like, Dude
i'm here to enjoy a, Game i've got my kids
with me or something. Right and NOW i think we've

(01:19:21):
got a little more aggressive in those, fashions or maybe
it's because of the toxic nature and certain things. COLLECTIVELY
i hope we don't become numb to, that right because
there is a human condition in this, CASE d, case
you've got to hope that you know, what, man you
just kind of let it, roll go back to where you,

(01:19:41):
were get away from, it and don't let what your
gut is telling you that you know. What this is
what would happen IF i was anywhere but here right.
Now but you are there right, now Right so that
window in that little reaction to human condition has to
still kind of win as far as trying to keep
in yourself composed or getting away from this toxicity which

(01:20:05):
exists way too much in my humble, opinion and from
an officiating, window it was difficult for me in real.
Time we caught that on an off camera and now you,
Know i'm naturally being asked when these situations come up rather,
quickly like, keeing you get a weigh in on, This
AND i really. DID i, MEAN i talked to the
producers right. THEN i, said, LOOK i never saw. This
i've been around thirty. Years i've never seen this. Happen

(01:20:27):
so let me phone THE nfl office and get some.
Clarity and then came in and at least tried to
do my best to give some clarity there in real.
Time but they're unfortunate situations on everyone's behalf, Right like
you set it up, perfect, Bug we're in a professional.
Situation we put ourselves on this. Stage the unfortunate part

(01:20:47):
of the stage is we're subjected to things that would
not be appropriate in my, home out on the, street
and me being a little younger might cause us to
have a little more of a distant disagreement than maybe
even in the house and me throwing it out of.
Here but we're in these windows and we're on these.
Stages this is hopefully those times where we elevate ourselves

(01:21:08):
as athletes or participants and can look at it and
let it go as the bs that it really. Is
AND i always my way was doing. IT i would
look to see whoever was standing next to the person
who was really being belligerent during a time out and
kind of look and hope it was maybe their significant
other next to, them, right and look at him like

(01:21:30):
he really came to the game with this guy and
he's acting like, this you, Know or maybe SOMETHING i
could do from a distance to make him feel small
for a second and hopefully stop. It but it was
a reaction from WHAT i, understand and we, see we
saw what the punishment is an extremely punitive condition here

(01:21:50):
for the. Team you've got a team that still ISN'T
i don't think a. Lock you've got two huge football
games that he will not participate. In i'm sure they're
getting in his pocket for a bit of. Change and
it's just these are parts of the games that we
all love. Intensity we actually almost love a little bit about.
It reactions sometimes in some of our sports in a controlled,

(01:22:11):
fashion but then we go over that one little edge
and then what is really entertaining to us kind of looks, like,
MAN i don't want to see, that you. Know AND
i think that's kind of where we were with that
whole situation that they're. Unfortunate, Yeah i'm.

Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
One hundred percent with. You is emotional regulator doesn't work very,
well and yet this financial com punitive damages from it
maybe will be the wake up call. Hopefully, Well, Jane
i've been telling everybody as they, Leave Merry, christmas But
i'm going to tell YOU i wish you a very Merry.
Christmas do you and your?

Speaker 4 (01:22:43):
Phone?

Speaker 1 (01:22:44):
Okay? Well?

Speaker 4 (01:22:45):
Thanks my. FRIEND i appreciate. That And, ASTLEY i hope
you have a wonderful one with you and yours And
chucky wherever you are in the stratoscere right, now we
hope that you are going to enjoy another beautiful holiday.
Season thank you guys so. MUCH i love being on the.
Show and it's That tommy here the. HUG i loved
ones and and appreciate this thing that we get to do,

(01:23:08):
together which is called life.

Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
Fellas that's, right all, right Thanks, Jane Merry christmas. Brother all.
Right That's jane's. Territory segment Of gene is brought to
you BY Bmw. Seattle looking for new USE bmw or something,
else check them out AT Bmw, seattle conveniently located BETWEEN
i five AND i ninety near the. Stadiums on the
other side of, this we're going to get to talk
To Jolly saint fits you right here At Sports radio

(01:23:29):
ninety three point THREE. Kjrfm Oh, man love that song Doing,
well Going?

Speaker 6 (01:23:34):
Well you got me up and dancing at eight thirty
six in the morning on A Christmas eve.

Speaker 4 (01:23:38):
EVE i get that.

Speaker 1 (01:23:39):
UP i oftentimes WHEN i start to belt out a,
SONG i get, man you sound a lot Like mariah Carry,
yeah do you get that at?

Speaker 4 (01:23:47):
All?

Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
No, no, no, Never i've never gotten.

Speaker 6 (01:23:51):
That but all, right WELL i will continue to sing
that song very proudly UNTIL i.

Speaker 1 (01:23:56):
Do, okay, good good on. YOU i can. SEE i
mean you got you got. Range i'll give you. THAT
i don't know if It's Mariah carey, range but you
do got. Range, well we got ever it fits you
on with this obviously voice of the, crack and we
get to find out what's going on over there At
Climate pledge and they're actually on the road right. Now

(01:24:19):
they did win again last, NIGHT. Fitzi that's two in a.
Row maybe right at the ship to some, degree we
do have to write this bad boy before it gets
too terribly far off the. Rails and yet they're right
back at. It they got a back to backer tonight AT.
La and so what you see last, night what'd you
see the last couple wins that is maybe giving you

(01:24:40):
the idea that they're turning a.

Speaker 6 (01:24:41):
Corner, WELL i think for, me the last two, games
this team got back to its. Identity you, KNOW i
go To San jose and they couldn't afford to get
into a track beat with that TEAM i, mean there's
a lot of fast players In San. Jose they've got
a lot of young, skill and you'll hear players se
all the. Time you, know we have to keep things.

(01:25:02):
Simple you, know we're a defensive. Game we're a defensive.
Team we need to work on shutting them. Down we
can't afford to try and skate with, them to try
and get into a track. MEET i felt like In
San jose they fell into that trap a little bit
early in the. Game they let in a goal thirty
some odd seconds into the third, Period but it was

(01:25:23):
all about the third period, comeback and they really the
response there to score two in the third in which
recently the third periods have been the downfall of The
Seattle kraken if you go back to that nine and one,
stretch the cracking went. On they were outscored twenty to
five in the third. Period so they did a really

(01:25:44):
good job of calming things down In San, jose and
then the same thing last. NIGHT i thought last night In,
anaheim you, know it might not have been the most exciting.
Game that was a very physical, game especially towards the.
End we still don't have a word On Vince, dunn
who got hit By Ross johnston and he was out
midway through the second. Period, so but it was a

(01:26:06):
very physical. Game but once again against An anaheim team
that has a lot of, young, skilled potential superstar, players
The kraken clogged up the, middle they clogged up the neutral.
Zone they didn't allow the skill and speed Of anaheim
to showcase in that game last. Night so two very

(01:26:27):
good defensive, efforts two games in which The kraken played
back to their identity smothering some really young and talented.
Teams and you're, RIGHT i mean they righted the, ship
so to. Speak it's a big hole to climb out
of when you're you, know seven points, Back but you
got to start. Somewhere and they've won two in a,

(01:26:49):
row and if you can make it three here, tonight
you'll feel pretty good going into the.

Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
Break, Okay so three in a row would mean they
have to win back to back.

Speaker 1 (01:26:59):
Games it's been.

Speaker 6 (01:27:04):
Hard it's been hard the last couple of. Years coming into,
SAID i don't even want to say the Stat, Yeah
i'm not gonna say. It it's been a, while it's
been a while since.

Speaker 1 (01:27:15):
The krack and have one game two of a back to.

Speaker 6 (01:27:19):
Back But the saving grace is that The La, kings
also last, night are on game two.

Speaker 1 (01:27:26):
Of a back to.

Speaker 6 (01:27:26):
Back they lost To columbus, yesterday and these games have
a funny way of playing, out you, know if you're
if you're the, Road if you're the road team and
in the game before The christmas break or before The
All Star breaker.

Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
Or, whatever right YOU i think are favored more than
the home.

Speaker 6 (01:27:46):
Team If i'm The La, KINGS i got family in,
Town i've got people coming to. Visit it's the, holidays, YadA, YadA.
YadA if you're The, Kracking i'm already on the, road
RIGHT i, MEAN i gotta be. Here i've got nowhere
else to. Be i'm gonna go back home And i'll
deal with all my stuff. Later SO i think tonight's
game from that, standpoint typically will favor the road. Team

(01:28:08):
The kraken And kings have played a pretty even series,
historically Crack and winning last week at home uh in,
Overtime SO I I i like The crackings chances to
staff that street. Tonight Joey, decord who's had a really
good couple of, games is going to start For seattle this,
evening so there's gonna be an optional. Skate hopefully we'll

(01:28:29):
have an update On Vince. DUNN i did see him
after the game. Yesterday he wasn't wearing. Anything he wasn't uh.

Speaker 1 (01:28:38):
Cobbled.

Speaker 4 (01:28:43):
He was fully. Cloathed the bus was.

Speaker 6 (01:28:45):
Kind of, dark SO i can only he was fully.
Clothed but, no he didn't have a cast or a
sling or you, know any type of bandage. On so, hopefully,
uh you, know maybe he got the wind knocked out
of him and and he'll be ready to go.

Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
Tonight but we'll see here in about an hour and a.
Half with a crack on the extra board, Escape i'm with.
YOU i, MEAN i considering the temper tantrum that he threw,
AFTERWARDS i didn't think he was very injured and he was. Mad,
Yeah i'm. Glad i'm glad he didn't Hit decord with
this with the shrapnel or the back of his stick
or whatever else he threw down the. HALLWAY i, MEAN

(01:29:20):
i get. It you get to have a temper tantrum
here and, there and he obviously didn't feel good the
way that he got, Hit so hopefully he's good to.
GO i got one more for. YOU i mean The
Mason marchmant. Trade is? THAT i MEAN i thought it
was like, WOW i thought that was a piece that,
they you, know had added for a. Reason was it

(01:29:41):
just not? Working was there is there anything going on
behind closed? Doors because they've won a couple since he's.
GONE i don't know if there's chance that it's an
addition by some traction clubhouse wise or locker room. WISE i,
mean what do you think of that whole move is
or anything behind?

Speaker 6 (01:29:55):
It, well first of, ALL i think we should normalize
using clubhouse for every locker room.

Speaker 4 (01:30:01):
Fan of.

Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
CLUBHOUSE i like, that all, right it does it?

Speaker 6 (01:30:06):
Does you can't you can't sit with, us you can't
come in. Here BUT i think With Mason, marshmitt let's be,
honest it didn't. Fit he didn't fit in the. Lineup
he didn't, fit you, know in the. ROOM i, mean
and there was no type of there was no there's no,
animosity there was no, arguing there was no fighting in the.
Background but you, know sometimes you have a guy just

(01:30:28):
didn't fit and and he has an opportunity to go somewhere,
else and he's got three goals in two games since he's,
left so you, know clearly for, him the trade was.
Working but but For Mason, marshmot you, KNOW i don't
think he ever fully got traction uh in this lineup

(01:30:49):
and the crack and did all they. Could they moved
him up and down various places in the. Lineup he
was all in the first power. Play he was playing
With Matty veneers and And Jordan, everley and you, know
until the, injury he had some shifts With James howartz
And jared. Mccannon so it's not like he was he
was buried on the fourth. Line he was given opportunity

(01:31:10):
and you, know for whatever.

Speaker 8 (01:31:12):
Reason he just wasn't a.

Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
Fit and that, happens and that's.

Speaker 6 (01:31:15):
Okay The krakend were no worse for wear because when
you think about, it you gave up a third and
a fourth for, him and you get back a second
and a, Fourth SO i mean you get the fourth
round pick back and then you upgrade the third to a,
second so you, know no, harm no. FOUL i would
have liked to have seen him a better run here In,

(01:31:37):
seattle given the type of player that he's been known to,
be but it wasn't a, fit and we wish.

Speaker 1 (01:31:45):
It, well, yeah it is what it. Is it's part
of the business of the, sport and so, yeah wish
him well and yet hopefully they can keep the winning ways.
Going all, RIGHT, fitzi, well, HEY i want to wish
you a very Merry christmas as, well you the, wifey
the little. Man you go out there call win again
tonight and then you can enjoy a few days.

Speaker 6 (01:32:03):
Off thank you very, Much Bucky, ASHLEY a Mery christmas to, You,
Chris christmas to everybody out, there and we'll talk to
you next.

Speaker 4 (01:32:10):
Week all.

Speaker 1 (01:32:11):
Right that's. Ever it fits, you the voice of The
crack and The Mariah carey of The Seattle. Crack and
if you, will ALL i want For christmas fits, you.
Baby all. Right on the other, Side i'm gonna Get
ashley's confidence. Meet i'm gonna check in on some things
right here At Sports radio ninety three point THREE. Kjrfm Merry,
christmas everybody out, There thanks for joining the. Show we

(01:32:33):
got a couple more segments, here but this is our
last one Before. Christmas to ask for what you? WANT
i MEAN i. MIGHT i used to circle everything in
the calendar or the. Catalog excuse me. That when my
mom would be, like all, right circle what you want
you go to the toy, section, obviously AND i circled.
Everything and yet My mom's, like you know That sanna

(01:32:55):
can't give you, everything, Right and of COURSE i know,
that and Yet santa typically did get me. Something and
So i'm, Wondering, ash if this is your final time
from your mouth The santa's ears that you get to
ask him for, something you can go ahead and ask
for something. Big maybe you ask for something, big maybe
ask for something in the, middle and maybe ask for

(01:33:17):
something that you feel is More mariner, esque, right and
more something That Santa Mariner santa would would be actually
willing to give. You what do you want right?

Speaker 4 (01:33:26):
Now For?

Speaker 5 (01:33:26):
CHRISTMAS i THINK i Think i'm gonna have to ask
For Gino. Suarez oh, Yeah i'd like to have him.
BACK i don't want to be the team that keeps
that has him and then lets him go and then
he does, well and then brings him, back and then
lets him, go and then he does well and then
wants to bring him back. Again SO i know he

(01:33:47):
didn't do very well for us batting wise while he was,
here but he obviously had a really good. Season it
just didn't translate once he got. HERE i don't think
that that would be the case next. Year SO i
would like to give him another full season and see
what he can. Do, PLUS i think his energy that
he brings is really valuable to this, team AND i

(01:34:09):
know that he is very well loved by everyone in the.

Speaker 1 (01:34:11):
Clubhouse, Yep i'm with. YOU i, MEAN i think that
the power. Numbers you, know it's a couple of years
ago when they were getting when they moved on from,
him where they were, Thinking, okay too many, strikeouts and
it's just a matter of time until he kind of
falls off right where it's just even more of a
strikeout or nothing. Guy and maybe the the home runs
dip because you, know you hit fifty, homers you can

(01:34:33):
strike out a. Bunch if you hit twenty two homers
and hit two hundred and strike, out you, know two
times a, game that's not as. Useful. Obviously, YEAH i
wouldn't Mind gino at a you, KNOW i don't, know
thirteen fourteen million dollars a year for a couple of.

Speaker 2 (01:34:51):
YEARS i, mean that's the Thing i'm not going to worry.

Speaker 5 (01:34:53):
About i'm not going to worry that The mariners are
going to overpay him to keep, him because The mariners
don't overpay, people that's, true so that WHEN i, yeah
people are, like, oh we don't want to.

Speaker 2 (01:35:01):
OVERPAY i don't want anyone to overpay.

Speaker 1 (01:35:02):
Him how about this one for. You here's one's a
tug at your heart a little, Bit. Gino regardless of
what the money, Is, gino you love him and he
brings something to the table on the, field off the,
field in the clubhouse Or. Bregman, now obviously you're spending
way More. Bregman but where's getting? More you're getting?

Speaker 2 (01:35:24):
More, yeah that is a tough.

Speaker 5 (01:35:25):
ONE i, MEAN i guess my heart would stop myself
from allowing The bregman thing to even come into my
mind BECAUSE i just don't think it would ever.

Speaker 2 (01:35:34):
HAPPEN i don't think we'd pay him that much or
what he WANTS i should.

Speaker 5 (01:35:38):
SAY i, mean if they decided to, say, yeah we
think he's worth, it we're gonna pay him by all,
means bring him in like that's. GREAT i just think more,
realistically they're gonna go with the one they, know and
the one they know Is.

Speaker 1 (01:35:52):
Gino, yeah and it would be half the. Price, yeah
probably half the price Is, bregman twice the. Player it's
hard to. Say he's not gonna get a hundred. HOMERS
i know, that BUT i think that he just brings
more to the, table not a little bit more. Defensively
not That gino's bad by any, stretch BUT i don't
know if he's quite as. GOOD i think they both

(01:36:13):
would be good in the clubhouse different. Ways one's good,
vibes one's, gritty, grind go play the game. Hard it's
all about winning and and and what not That gino.
Isn't but you get my. POINT i, think, YEAH i
would Choose, bregman even though part of me is, like,
yeah they're not going to do. That they're not going
to jump into those. WATERS i don't. THINK i think

(01:36:37):
another one That i've always kind of, liked and YET
i don't know necessarily why Is Harrison bader as a
guy that as A dh an INEXPENSIVE. DH i think
you get him for less than ten million bucks a,
year and you could do it on a short term
deal where if it's not working, out you move. ON
i think you get him less than what you paid

(01:36:58):
For Mitch garver, well and you're gonna get. More, okay
you're gonna get more out of him, offensively he's not great,
defensively but that's. Fine you have a pretty set outfield
at this point in. Time But, bart if you have an,
injury you want to be able to put somebody in
there that you don't feel like you're going. Backwards and
then he could ALSO. DH i mean he, could he.
Could he's not a guy that is just one side

(01:37:20):
of the plate or the, other like you know The
Ben Refs schneider that we just signed. Yesterday he rakes
lefties and he's not good against right handed. Pitching and
SO i supposed what they're probably planning on doing is
figuring out a way to HAVE i don't, know maybe
the backup catcher when if there's a riety on the,

(01:37:41):
mound maybe the backup that's when the backup catcher catches
and you you Put cal in THE dh spot being
a switch, hitter that's will you use HIS dh where
he's only half THE. Dh it's that or they find
ANOTHER dh to platoon with. HIM i think if you
do it the way THAT i express, first Or COW'S
dh and and you bring in your backup, catcher you're

(01:38:04):
going backwards offensively for.

Speaker 2 (01:38:05):
Sure yeah, No AND i get that FOR i don't
think that that's the.

Speaker 5 (01:38:10):
Route it didn't work out very well last, year SO
i don't think that that's the situation you should.

Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
Have you're putting yourself in too risky of a position
in those.

Speaker 5 (01:38:18):
SITUATIONS i think what you were talking about earlier today
with having Ref sneider Ref schneider, on you, know batting
against lefties as YOUR dh and and bringing in someone
Like Carlos santana to face the, righties someone again who you,
know and we know The garners love to have players
they are familiar.

Speaker 1 (01:38:35):
With, yeah, yeah, WELL i mean IT'S i think to some,
degree for a, While jerry maybe discounted a little bit
too much the importance of the. CLUBHOUSE i think you
don't have to have it to. WIN i, mean you
can have a bunch of dudes that really don't like each,
other but they're really good baseball players and they're going
to go out and win a bunch of. Games but

(01:38:55):
if you're going to be somewhere throughout the course of
one hundred and sixty two, games those that don't get
along with, them maybe don't see eydie on a bunch of.
Stuff they're gonna kind of grind together and they'll find
themselves in a sense of. Sympatica they'll find themselves in
a mode where they're doing what they need to do
for each other with one, another and so it ends

(01:39:16):
up playing where everything's kind of smooth sailing right, now
and then you're gonna run into those. Hiccups and that's
where a good manager comes in to get everybody rowing
in the same, direction even if you're not necessarily wanting
to kick it with each other outside of the field of. Play,
SO i, MEAN i hope they add some. STUFF i,
Mean i'm happy with the fact they Added Rob. RESCHNEIDER i,

(01:39:37):
mean he's based on. War he was the best left
fielder on the, market all. RIGHT i mean he was
the highest rated left. Fielder now that's a guy that you,
know puts the ball in play and hits a bunch
of line drives and understands how to handle the bat
when it's against a. Lefty, Yeah and so they definitely
upgraded with that. Move and YET i want them to

(01:39:58):
continue it upgrade because you did lose some Pieces polanco And.
Gino you have not made up for all of that
yet with a backup catcher and a PLATOON dh slash utility,
guys so we shall see what they. Do but from
our mouths To Santa's ears and the, marriners go ahead
and keep on getting us some presents we like. Presents
on the other, side, yep we're going to do our

(01:40:20):
one last thing and wish everybody to marry very, merry very,
merry very Merry. Christmas on the other side here At
