It's k IF. I am sixforty and you're listening to the Conway Show
on demand on the iHeartRadio app. It's Conway Show. Mark Thompson is good,
tim Thank you, everybody's please pleasesee I'm humble by your applause.
I I don't want to bring thewhole show down. I don't want to

(00:21):
get said. I don't want toget Mark said about. And hopefully enough
time has passed where you know youyou can talk about it. But you
were really, really, really dearclose friends with Sam Rubin. I was.
I love Sam Rubin. He wasa how often you talk to him
or text him? Well, Itext him, I heard daily. I
didn't text him every day, butI did. I did text him frequently

(00:43):
and about various things going on,meaning in media. And I you know,
I knew Sam before the KTLA MorningNews because he worked at Fox eleven.
So there was a show called FoxEntertainment News and he was one of
the reporters there. It was kindof like The Entertainment Tonight, but with
this kind of the financial side ofas in addition to the glamorous side of
Hollywood. So anyway, Sam wasthere and he was just so great I

(01:04):
tried to get him hired there, but they totally ignored my pointing to this
guy as some talent. Yeah,I mean I said, look, he's
great. I said he would beso great at our newscast. We must
hire this guy. They should have, right, Yeah, and then so
I would think six months later hewas working on Channel five kicking Channel eleven's
but every morning, and they're stilldoing it exactly so. But so he

(01:29):
was more, but he was great. He stepped up for me in so
many ways personally. And you andI both got calls over the weekend saying
can you come on KTLA and talkabout Sam. Yeah, I had stuff
to do on Sunday where I couldn'tmake it. But you popped in at
around nine forty five, and youknow, they're into their you know,
Friday Saturday, and they're into theirthird day of doing Walda Wall Sam Ruben,

(01:49):
which I understand. I'm not suresure he's larger than the life person.
But it sounded like they were wrappingyou up, like they like you
could have kept it on for anothertwenty minutes. I'll tell you what I
had a story, and I'll tellyou wrapping you up. I'll share it
with my KSh sam I told thestory about him stepping up and offering his
when my house burned, offering hisplace to hold my annual Thanksgiving. That's

(02:13):
one hundred people there, That's justlike, what is that for people who
don't know your Thanksgiving? Didn't well, I did an annual Thanksgiving. It's
called a Straggler's Vegan pot luck Thanksgiving, so for those people who are you
know, vegan leaders. Probably inviteda lot of people who weren't vegan,
but everybody brought some kind of dishand we did it every year and we
call it Stracklers because it was aday a few days after actual Thanksgiving.

(02:35):
So he got quite a good turnout. And over the years it became this
annual event. And when the houseburned. The house burned in October,
and then Sammy stepped up, youknow, in November because Thanksgiving was coming
up. He said, I wantto ease it. Are you or what
are you going to do for youryour Thanksgiving, your Straggler's thanks I said,
I think I'm just going to cancelit this year. He said,
no, no, no, no, he said, do it at my

(02:57):
house. I said, I said, it's a hundred people. Sam,
I mean, it's a lot ofpeople. He said, come over here,
there's plenty of room. And I'vebeen there before, but he said,
I'll show you where you couldn't setstuff up. You can set up
a bar, you can set uprental. And so we did. We
rented furniture, rented a bar,got a staff, and we did the
entire thing at Sam Ruben's house. And did you call Sam's rental furniture?
I did. Well, he hada guy, you know, he had

(03:19):
a guy who was always had aguy. He does and he's got good
guys. Now he has the townwired, so he had a guy both
for the furniture and for the staffing. So that was kind of great at
valet parking and all that stuff. So a lot of that stuff I had
at my house, but you know, typically year to year. But Sam
had his own setup and it wasgreat and everybody had a great time.
But that's the kind of guy was. I mean, that was short notice

(03:40):
man. As I say, thehouse burned in October and he was stepping
up in November. But he alsodid this, which is very funny.
I was at the Hollywood Bowl onenight and the phone it's Sam he texted
me. He said, I needto talk to you. It's kind of
an urgent. And so he called. And I step out of the Hollywood

(04:01):
Bowl and he says, listen,I do this. I do an entertainment
report for BBC Radio or Radio fouror whatever it's called over there in London.
And he said, and they wantme tonight to do an update on
this is when Angelina Jolie and BradPitt broke up. There's a big story.
Wow. And he said, Ican't do it. Can you do

(04:24):
it for me? And I said, Sam, I'm not an entertainment reporter.
I don't know. He said,they don't know whether you're an entertainment
reporter. You're in Hollywood, you'reMark Thompson in Hollywood. It'll be fine.
I said, all right. Isaid, thank you. It helps
me out so much. So,of course I'm so nervous. I get
all this information on Brad Pitt andJoe and how they released it on a
Friday night. You know who theywere before, he said, And then

(04:47):
I get on and then it's aRadio four. Now let's go to Hollywood
and Monk Thompson the story of AngelinaJolie and Brad Pitt's and I essentially Sam
rubened it for about three four minutes. It was pretty great. I'd love
to see that. Yeah, itwas really really strong. It was really
fun talking about two people you reallydon't know or I just don't know the

(05:08):
rhythm of I get it. Yeah, I get it. I get at
it. But I love the thethe stragglers. Thanksgiving. You still do
it? Yeah, I'm well. The truth is COVID took us out of
it. So now I haven't doneit for like four years or so,
so maybe I gotta I'd like todo it again this year. I was
talking to Deborah Mark when she wasleaving and I said, hey, you
know, she lives out in theWest Valley, I think, And she

(05:29):
said, I said, hey,I don't know if you know this,
but Mort's Delhi, which is ourdeli we share. You know, Deborah
and I have a couple of thingsin common. That's one of them.
What's the other one? Let methink. I think underwear. I think
that's it. I think it's awrap. And I said, a brick
was thrown through Mort's window and Idon't know if it's anti Semitic. I

(05:50):
don't know, So Jewish Delhi withall the things going on with Israel and
Gaza. And she said, oh, it's horrible. And then she said
did they did they throw a brickthrough He's bakery? And I said no,
I don't think so. And thenand I asked her, I said,
when's the last time we went tobee She said a couple months ago.
I said, there's a Bee's Bakery, one of the great bakeries in
the world. I said, dothey still not take credit cards? And

(06:10):
she goes, no, no,the take credit cards. Now would they
charge you, you know, ifyou use a credit And then she said,
you know what, Tim She goes, maybe you can get on this
on your show. And I said, what is that? What is that?
And she said they have no veganchoices there at Bee's Bakery, not
one. You think they make oneor two cookies for vegan people. When
I asked, you know, forvegan cookies, they said they didn't have

(06:32):
any. And I said, ifI worked at Bees and somebody asked me
for hey, do you have anyvegan cookies? I would tell them to
f off and get out. Youguys have the world. But there's one
small little bakery that us sugar, dairy, wheat flower people have. That's

(06:54):
Bee's Bakery. You guys have theworld. How do you figure that out?
You have everything else? You haveeverything. You got me, Donald
got Jack in the box, gotall that stuff. Typical shut out.
You're the oppression shut out with that, but that that vegan's the vegan Thanksgiving.
That's why the oppressure claims outrageous wildI'm gonna get those kids at UCLA

(07:17):
to protest you. You're listening toTim Conway Junior on demand from KF I
am six forty. Okay. Ihave a theory. I want to run
by you and and I think ourbuddy Sam Ruben got out just in time.
I think that bigger power took himaway because he was too kind.

(07:40):
I think this world is getting angrierand angrier and angrier. And it's not
just social media. Social media hasmakes it makes it an appearance in my
thesis, but it's not the overallreason why the planet's getting angry. I
don't know the reason. I don'tknow, so i'm i'm you know,

(08:00):
I'm. The conclusion on my thesisis is blank because I don't know.
But I will say I don't knowif you saw this, but you see
the killer whales attack that sailboat.I saw the headline, I didn't actually
see the video. You want tohear some audio? Sure, all right,
here we go. This is forMark Thompson. This is a wild
story where a pack what is it, a group of whales, a pack

(08:22):
of whales, a den of whales? Yeah, I don't know what the
god A pod of whales attack thesailboat and sun get a group of orcas,
better known as killer whales. Theyappear to be attacking and even sinking
some boats off the coasts of Portugaland Spain. The question this morning why
ndsy's chief international corresponding here Simmons joinsus with the story, care, what's

(08:46):
happening? Hey, Greg, goodmorning to you. This is one of
these funny not funny stories. Notfunny if you're in one of these boats.
Just get to the story. There'sa lot of rot of my morning
shows. Yeah, just why Andas one on the snow raised me and
said that there's a plus in themind as I guess you might say it's

(09:11):
spoonful sugar. But no, no, no, no, not going back
that far, because you were aboutto see, oh, incredible. A
group of whales killing the pod ofwhale. Please my good angel doing traffic
local traffic check on AM radio andshe nailed it. And this guy's doing
international TV and he called it agroup of wales. That's his story.

(09:33):
Do you think yes group? Maybehe felt we wouldn't understand what pod was.
Maybe maybe it's called a pod.I have to apologize, don't we.
I don't like to. I wantto say I'm sorry. I only
apologize when Robin makes me. Isshe gonna make me? Doing on this?
No? Probably not should be renameda gang or a troop or an

(09:56):
army because the sign says that tryingto figure out exactly what's happening in the
water. A British couple setting sailoff the coast of Morocco when a group
of killing. I don't like thesailing couples. I don't like the videos
of the sailing couples. They're travelingaround the world. You always see the

(10:18):
highlights of their day. You neversee when one of them's crying in the
toilet because she got the way ofcoming about and hit him in the in
the head with the sail coming around. You never see them when you know
when when they can't stand one anotherand they're pulling out the flair gun and
shooting each other. You know, you never see that. You always see

(10:39):
the two people sailing around the worldsemi rich but not overly rich, and
they have nine months to sail aroundthe world and not communicate with anybody.
Those are lonesome losers, is youknow. I mean those people have no
friends and no family. You havenine months that you can of that,

(11:00):
you can get in a sailboat withCourtney and travel around. There's a certain
freedom to that for these people.I'm saying that they're sailing away from something.
It's my theory on why people livein Barstow. Barstow was initially created
for people who are running away fromfamily and cops, and they moved to
Barstow. And now people moved toBarstow for cheap houses. And now the

(11:22):
people are running away from the copsand family have to find somewhere else to
go because now family and cops aremoving in there, and like, holy
Christ, we got to get outof here again. And now they got
to find a new community, maybeZizzis or that ghost town or something like
that. On the way to Vegas, right, you know that Wales started
battering their boats, the Yorkers continuingthe barrage for at least an hour.

(11:45):
They managed to keep the forty sixfoot sailing yacht afloat, but just days
later another vessel was not so lucky. Three killer whales struck the rudder inside
of the sailboat, eventually causing itto sink as the Spanish coast rushed to
the rescue. Okay, here's myso I'm telling you it's not just the
Internet. It's but I went toa dog shelter when we lost our dear

(12:09):
dog Ernie last month. I wentto dog shelter because I want to get
a new dog. You know,when when I lose a dog, I
want to get a new one immediately. It makes me feel better. And
I went to these this dog shelter, went to one in Burbank and one
in Chatsworth in the in the WestValley. And there are these aggressive dogs.
You know, they come, andyou know, and they seem so

(12:30):
nice. You go to put youryou know, your hand near them,
not in the cage, and theylunge like they're gonna kill you. And
I and I even said to theguy to the dog. I'm like,
buddy, this is not your ticketout of here. When you started attacking
people that want to adopt you, that's not the way to get out of
you. Yeah, the shelter situationsare really tough on it. And there's
another shelter here in Burbank where thedog leaped up and there's no ceiling on

(12:50):
the cage and it got within afoot of jumping out of the cage.
And guess who he was gonna killme? No, he wasn't gonna kill
I mean these are yes, hewas gonna kill me. That's a tortured
parallel. But I understand what you'resaying. Well, you got alter.
Okay, So I want to comeback and talk to you about the anger
in this world. Yes, now, I think you're onto something. And
maybe you know. We see itevery day. We see it every day.

(13:13):
You see it on the freeways, you see it on the highways and
the room right now. I sawit this morning on the way to home
depot, where two cars were racingand fighting each other to get to I
don't know, a parking spot orwhatever, but I see it every single
day, and I don't know why. I don't know why the world is
becoming angrier, but it is.Look at Israel and Gaza, look at
Ukraine and Russia. I mean,I know we've had anger in the past,

(13:35):
but look, I'm telling you itgoes in cycles. And we're we're
we're ramping up, we'ren't entering acycle of really really angry is okay,
really angry stuff? And I thinkKrozier probably is the theory on it.
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior ondemand from KFI Am sixty. It is

(13:56):
Tuesday, so Mark Thompson is inthe house. Look at that bub look
at you anyway, So let's getback to this. I think the world
is getting angrier and and I'm sureyou see it every day, you know.
There uh, there's a theory thatthat John cole Belt's working on that

(14:16):
you know, society is trying toget us to get out of our gas
powered cars into electric cars. Okay, that might be true. I'm not
a post then, I don't ownelectric car yet, but I was the
guy. Remember when the pigtail lightbulbs came out and they were the They
were trying to get away from incandescenso they went to the Led light bulbs.

(14:37):
Sure, the first will looked likea pigtail and you couldn't see anything,
and it was dim and it wasjust horrible. Now you can't find
any incandescent light bulbs in home depot, and they all they're all great,
all the new ones are great. But it does take some time for guys
like me and John Coleblt and youknow, Krozier or whatever to to move
along. I don't move as fastas you do. You're an earlier adopter

(15:00):
on everything. I like to be. Uh well, I mean you got
an electric car the moment they cameout. I also okay, But back
to the bigger. So you're sayingthat that's created an irritation or something.
No, no, no, no, bigger. I'm saying that that it's
the anger is everywhere. The Metro, every single day has a story about

(15:20):
a shooting, a stabbing, afight with the driver or whatever. Everybody
is angry, and it had doesn'thave anything to do with how much money
you have, or what kind ofa big house you have, or any
kind of you know, uh youknow, societal you know, privilege you
have. Everybody and everything is angry. These whales are angry. I've never

(15:41):
seen whales attack a boat before, and now it happens five six times a
year. When I went to thedog shelter. When I was a kid,
I never saw a rabbit angry dog, you know, lurching at the
cage. But now I see itevery time I go to the dog shelter.
When when you know, there's morebaseball fights this year than they're been
last year, at this time, everybody is angry. Politics is angry,

(16:07):
you know, every you know, sports is angry. The animals are angry.
Everybody's angry. And I don't knowwhy. Yeah, I mean I
would suggest maybe something in the air. Maybe it's post COVID. I don't
know. Clearly, there's everybody feelsa lot of pressure in many ways.
I think that's a fair point.I think some of those examples might be
a bit tortured. Like you know, I think that the example of the

(16:29):
as I was saying, the shelter, those animals respond because they're trying to
pretend they're in a shelter. ThatI get it environment. There's barking all
day and all night. I mean, it's a very they're agitated for reasons
I have nothing to do with likethe world coming on glue. Okay,
right, all, since we're talkingabout dogs, Yeah, then the most
pampered dog in the world has tobe the president's dog. Yeah, but

(16:49):
that was just a dog that hadspecific issues behaviorally, Tim, I don't
think that was because the dog bittwenty five secret services. Out of any
sort of world tension. That dogwas somehow, I'm telling you it adds
to the list. Okay, youcan put it on the list. I'm
putting Biden's dog on the list. With the whales. Think about it the
other way. Think about all thewhales that are struck by these ships and

(17:12):
the containers. I get it.I mean it's the I mean imagine that
population. It's being decimated by shipstrikes. That's right, and I were
If I were the whales, I'dbe peed off too. I'd also if
I was a whale, I'd bepissed off that they're putting windmills in my
home too. Oh you mean forthe power generated windmills that are going up

(17:33):
in Massachusetts the way offshore. That'sright. I don't like that either.
I put them on land, notout in the whale. Sure, But
I also something that you read aboutin the news every single day, especially
here in LA about kids, mostlykids, mostly young people, driving one
hundred miles an hour and crashing andkilling themselves. Well, that is something
that adolescents have been doing. It'sawful now, since the beginning of time

(17:55):
they've been doing. But there's ananger issue to driving one hundred and twenty
miles an hour. There are people, there's a there's a there's a thrill
seeking element to driving one hundred andtwenty miles. Now in the case of
kids, I'd say, and bythe way, not since the beginning of
time, because at the beginning oftime they didn't have cars. It went
that fast, well, beginning ofcars, beginning of cars. But you
know, they always say that thatNHL athletes are the nicest athletes in the

(18:18):
world. And I have a theoryon that all right, going back to
anger, that a hockey player getsall of their anger and aggression out on
the ice every night, Like youknow, Kempe with the Kings could fight
a guy from the Montreal Canadians, punch him in the face five or six
times, and what does he getfor that, five minutes in the penalty

(18:40):
box. Five minutes If you didthat same thing in the NBA, ask
Kerrent Washington, you would never beallowed back in the NBA again ever,
you'd have a lifelong suspension. Baseballis the same thing and basketball. In
football, you can sort of getaway with it, but you're gonna be
suspended for two, three, fourgames. But I'm the the athletes that
play hockey get all their aggression outon the ice, and that's why they're

(19:03):
beautiful people off the ice. I'msaying, well, we have we have
no outlet for our aggression. What'sthe outlet I can? I just think
that. First of all, thereare hockey players who've been involved in domestic
violence stuff, and I get that, I guess, but it's not completely
one hundred percent. But but Itake the fact that we all need an
outlet. I take your point, but it used to be that you could,

(19:25):
you know, to take your mindoff of stuff. You go to
the movies. I mean, honestly, you know, this is the family
and the lights go down, yougo into the theater and everything's great.
Now there are people on their phonein the theater. I think something each
other, you know, I thinkyou're onto something. The bigger issue,
not maybe not movies, but thebigger issue of family. Family. People
need more interaction with family, family, or social structure. Not everybody has

(19:47):
a family. You know. Itmakes me jealous. I know, we
got to take a break, youknow. It makes me really jealous when
I when I drive around on aSaturday or a Sunday and I see big
groups of people and in and there'sseventy or eighty people and they're all having
a birthday party or an uncle's youknow, retiring, or somebody's graduating.

(20:08):
I don't think I've ever been toa party like that, where you know,
eighty people get all family members gettogether in a park and have a
great time. And I think thatI'm jealous of that. Yeah, I
mean, we never had that whenI was a kid. Nothing. I
see it all the time in parts. Yeah, No, it's true.
I mean I think that there isa a cohesion, a social element today

(20:30):
that we didn't have. That's apositive. And I think it doesn't have
to be family, it just hasto be someone. We're social animals,
so some kind of connection with otherpeople on an ongoing basis is important,
and it can be a release andan escape from some of the stuff you're
talking about. Yeah, I thinkwe need to do one of those like
Wendy Walsh type shows. You know, we're on the weekend. We do
we take calls from you know,we're there not really doctors, but in

(20:52):
a way we're better than doctors intheapis because we have real world experience.
That's right, We're not just achirop. I'm gonna pitch it. You're
listening to Tim conwaytun you're on demandfrom KF I am six forty. You
know, buddy, you're you're betterthan this than I am. If you
can rattle off the top here andthen pick two of those. All right?

(21:17):

this for later playing on the station. I gotta what's the what's the You

(22:27):
you, sir, Tim. Yougot a hold of a bad eminem.
That's the worst. Hit my lip. Oh, I'm so sorry, buddy,
that's the worst. Oh god, bleeding too? Oh no, wow,
you really did get it? Ohmy god. You want me to

(22:47):
call nine on one, You gottayou do, look good, man.
I bite it all the time. You're losing you're losing some blood, mam.
But I bite my tongue or mylip all the effing time, all
the time. And you know, once you bite your tongue or your lip,
it swells up and you're prone tobiting it again. And then it
swells up and then you're super proneto biting it again. I didn't know

(23:11):
that. It does explain why youget into a cycle of biting. And
I was laying out out over theweekend, like I do, you know,
trying to get lying by the poolwhere, yeah, trying to get
a tan. I don't have apool, but I like, I lay
out in the grass, and Iput a blanket in the grass and I
lay down until the bugs get meand and I be came in and stung

(23:32):
me in the inside my mouth.Oh my god, that's horrible. That
is bad. You're playing hurt.I didn't realize that. Look, you
know what you do plays hurt winners. Huh Okay. You ever see a
you know, football game or basketballgame and the guy says he's playing injured.
That's because he's a winner. Youknow. It's funny about I do
watch the basketball, you know, and I wager around the basketball. And

(23:53):
I don't know anything about basketball,so I just lose bed after bed after
better bet. And when a guygoes down, this is what you're talking
about, and and they they're wincingin intense pain. I think, oh
my god, that guy's out.That guy's a star player. That guy's
out, How is it going toaffect? You know? Maybe I should
bet live, bet the game orsomething like that. I mean, because
that guy's gone, then all ofa sudden, he's like two minutes later,

(24:15):
he's fine, He's running up anddown the court. So I can't
there's all there's so much theater goingon, you know, with NBA injuries.
I can't watch these games without havingsome money on them. Yeah,
I can't. I go watch hockeyall day without money on it, But
I can't watch basketball. I'll tellyou I can now because I've lost too
much money. I'm over the budget. I'm I'm pretty much maybe watching all

(24:36):
sporting events without any kind of actuallef And I like to know the numbers
still, I like to know whatthe I always love knowing what itever.
As a matter of fact, Itext you all the time who you want,
because I want to root at homefor whoever you're betting. Yeah,
speaking of sports and betting? Areare United States? Is sweetheart? Caitlin
Clark? Oh? Yes, everybodyloves this woman. Everybody loves her.

(24:59):
What's not to love. She's makingher you know, her debut, or
has and now she's come to LA. It's wild. It's game time once
again for Caitlin Clark, this timein the big league. Tonight, the
twenty two year old basketball phenom willsuit up for her first regular season WNBA
game, playing for the Indiana Fever. This is a dream. This is

(25:19):
something I wrote down on a pieceof paper when I was in like second
grade, like, wow, geta basketball scholarship playing the WNBA. The
weight of the movement women did WNBAexisted when she was in second grade.
Oh, I guess she's pretty young. She's probably what twenty two. Maybe
the weight of the moment not loston Clark. This is what you kind
of worked for and drinmed of,and now you're gonna put your jersey on

yeah, make this league great. And then you know, behind the
scenes complain. What's the old line, You can't save souls in an empty
church. I mean, let's getpeople in before you guys start. That's
right. Let this woman dominate, open her up for the threes. Don't

(26:25):
don't don't put two guys on her, two gals on her for the whole
time, the whole game. Lether shoes, let her put up the
three, let her light it up. Let her get one hundred points a
game. Put a stool under thereso she can slam dunk. Let's go
with this one. I love thisCaitlyn Clark. I'm gonna get a Caitlin
Clark's shirt, hat, shoes,I'm gonna be with you know the reason

I love Caitlyn Clark. I thinkhe's great, man, I really
do. I'd spend five hundred bucksto go see her play when she comes,
I really would. Sure I wouldn'tspend five hundred bucks to see a
Laker game. I'll go see herthough, I'll see her. She's the
