(00:00):
It's KFI AM six forty and you'relistening to the Conway Show on demand on
the iHeartRadio app. Everybody knows RichardBlade, the K Rock DJ, just
got a star on the Hollywood Walkof Fame. Kind of a big deal
when a DJ gets a star onthe Hollywood Walk of Fame, because I'm
(00:23):
not talking about a DJ like RyanSeacrest or Big Boy. I mean,
those are giant personalities and they havesyndication deals and they're you know. But
I think Richard Blade was only onK Rock. I think that kind of
makes it even more extraordinary. Butthey had a big ceremony and they ushered
(00:46):
in his star, and it's avery big deal. Richard Blade was honored
with the unveiling of his star onthe Hollywood Walk of Fame. A loud
and loyal group of fans was onhand to celebrate. Some of those fans
included top K rock fans from theeighties and nineties. Blade started at kay
Rock in nineteen eighty two and wenton to champion alternative rock music. He
(01:07):
said today he attributes his success tothe loving the bands and their music.
I mean, I guess that shit. He became an outpost for alternative bands,
and so that's really how he liftedhis profile. So I feel a
little imposposit broth right now, butI shouldn't be here, but I don't
(01:30):
visit it, BLUs. Thank youso much for listening. Only is you
saw the beginning. Blade asked theChamber of Commerce if he could have his
star on Vine Street so he couldbe close to the legendary venue the Palace
which is now the avalon Rocker BillyIdol and former. Hey, Roy,
(01:53):
you could do that. I didn'tknow you could request. I'd like my
star on Vine very impressive. Goodfor him. Which is your star?
Be uh, wherever they want toput it? I take that garage on
Orange Avenue. Really, my staris not particularly you know what. I
(02:21):
think Tim should have a star, you know, Oh for sure he should.
You should too, though, No, that's very sweet of you.
I really do. I it's verysweet of you. Doesn't doesn't Bill Handle
have one? Yes? Okay,in that case, I should. I'm
going to work on getting you astar. Thank you. I would like
(02:43):
a task force put together. I'mon it. That would be great.
I mean, I don't mean tomake Richard Blade star about me getting a
star. I didn't mention it,Okay, everyone Sharon mentioned it was totally
totally. In fact, I wasagainst the idea, but then I found
out that Handles got one, andnow I'm all for it. Uh.
(03:07):
Pretty cool though Richard Blade had Ibelieve he had Jimmy there, Jimmy Kimmel,
and he had Billy Idam Billy there? Yeah, Jimmy and Billy.
Okay, Billy id. Let's fantasizewho who is there for your star?
Oh, that's a great question. That will be there? Yeah, he
would be. I certainly he mightactually be the person who inducts me or
(03:30):
whatever that is, or makes thespeech. Yeah, I think that would
be great. Alex Michaelson, allright, great is he for you that
day? Alex Michaelson. Be great? We mean a segment out of it,
Josh Mankowitz excellent, excellent. Doyou think Laurence an I love that?
Lauren? Change it? Tim,I'm sorry, Lauren's going to be
(03:50):
making the remarks to get my star. I apologize, Pal, Yeah you
can still come, but Lauren's goingto be the one doing the actual speaking.
Well, you know, the morewe sketched this out, the more.
I really am excited about it.Can't wait. Yeah, yeah,
got Josh Mankowitz, Lauren Sanchez,Tim Conway Junior. This is terrific.
(04:15):
Alex Michaelson's going to be there. This is going to be quite the ceremony.
Now we just need to get thatstar. Oh yeah, yeah,
we do right well. If Ican get some of those people to crank
out an email, we'd be ingood shame. How does that? Do
you know? How you get astar on the Hollywood Walk of Fair.
I think you do have to petitionthe Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. I think
(04:36):
there's a committee twenty five thousand. It used to be probably it's now it's
seventy five thousand. And you know, it doesn't hurt if you have somebody
like Jimmy Kimmel in your corner orBilly Idol. I'm not saying that they
campaigned for Richard Blade to get astar, but I'm just saying that,
you know that pedigree of support isprobably helpful part of it. Professional achievement
(05:02):
check for you, they've done it. Longevity in the category, let's check
five years or more, check andcheck. Contributions to the community check yes,
of course, and guarantee that thecelebrity will attend the dedication ceremony.
You're in. I'm well, I'llget there early and help set up chairs.
I love dittributing to the community.I am every day. In fact,
(05:26):
I can't. I'm I'm aching withcontributions to the community. Oh no,
I think it's seventy five thousand. That's why I thought it would be,
because there in the old days itwas twenty five, and so now
it's got to be seventy five.Oh that's where I have to tap out.
Sorry, So no, I meanyou don't have to. Yeah,
we started, we start a campaign. We will, we'll, We'll come
up with the money, do it. The money is the easy part.
(05:46):
Maybe you and Tim could get yourstars together. Yes, I love that
idea. Wow, I'm really I'vegone from feeling as though I don't even
deserve it, like why should bepart of the conversation, and then that
I don't belong. I've gone fromthere to being resentful that I don't have
one. Outrageous, I don't haveone. What a turn of events.
(06:10):
I know. I'm angered by thefact that I don't have a star on
the onlo Wago fanous isn't the bestMark Thompson that you're hearing right now,
anger and resentment, but it happensto be authentic. No, you when
you're angry, that's you're at yourbest. We like to get you upset.
Well, I congratulate Richard Blade.First of all, I don't mean
to make your star somehow about me? Again, I didn't even mention me.
(06:33):
Sharon started it. But you areto be congratulated, Sari. It's
really cool. And by the way, Richard Blade, you look great.
Your wife looks great. You're everybody. Billy Idle looks great. I mean
you look at h the Who arethese people? They're ageless. Kimmel of
course looks terrific. Anyway, itis very exciting to get a star,
(06:55):
and especially, as I say,Richard Blade larger than the life in a
way that still respected his origins asa DJ with the music, you know
what I mean. Again, hedidn't go on and host a big game
show or whatever it might be.He really seemed to be recognized in this
way for his work on the radio. So I give him a lot of
(07:18):
credit. Richard Blade honored with thestar on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
I'll expect periodic updates on how mystar situation is coming. Sharon, I
don't know how. You want tojust do it loosely? You want to
put out a newsletter I'm taking I'mdoing my notes now. Oh, I'm
working on this, mark, Sharon. Would be a little extra something in
(07:41):
your Christmas stocking if we can getit. Oh, a little momentum this
year. Yeah. Indeed, Hey, when we come back, Southwest and
United are changing the way they dosomething. We'll get to that. You're
listening to Tim conwaytoon You're on Demyanfrom KFI AM six forty. Always cool
(08:03):
to be hanging with my KFI family. Sharon and I did have a conversation
just to do a quick follow upand to let you know where this sits
on the star on the Walk, which was you know? And if we
do get a star Sharon, Andwhen I say we, I do think
I would. I almost consider itsince it was your idea. Yeah,
(08:26):
I think I almost consider it ourstar together. Oh, even though it'll
only have my name and I woulddo all the work. Yeah, but
you would be recognized, in myremarks, I think, prominently recognized,
and you'd be in some pictures aswell. Okay, let me finish in.
Unless Jimmy Kimmel and some of theseother high profile people show, well,
(08:48):
then then you understand. I mean, say you could be on the
outside all of the lakes there done. It's going to be too many big
celebrities. Can't put them on theoutside of the picture. You have,
Jimmy Kimmel, try to get youa store shure. You've taken it too
personally, Oh take it away.Look, my point actually was that you
(09:13):
will be recognized and that it isour project together, and I'm very grateful
for all the work that you're goingto be doing. I'd like you to
get started on it tonight if youcould. Anyway, we think this is
going to be quite the mountain toclimb, and we know that maybe the
biggest mountain will be a financial one. Yes, it's going to take seventy
(09:37):
five thousand dollars to get this done. Yeah, how do we do that?
How do we climb that mountain?Well, we don't climb it with
anybody in this building. I'll tellyou that because this building is not looking
to give you a dime. Theyare looking for ways to save money here.
So we have to look outside thebuilding. But I think that actually
leads quite a bit of America tobe part of some kind of GoFundMe.
(10:01):
Let's let's offline this as as it'ssaid in the words off the air.
We'll talk about it, but it'sit's a provocative idea, Sharon, and
I'm glad you came up with it. I'm going to save this out of
you. I'm excited that together somedaywe could be triumphant on this. I
look forward to it as well.Mark. Yeah, just wheel me over
(10:22):
to my Oh, don't say it, Star. Yeah, I don't know
that it's going to happen. No, we'll make it happen quick. All
right, please do it. Well, I'm still ambulatory, that's all I
asked you, all right. Abizarre kind of story involves a dog that
travels four miles to get help afterthe dog's guardian or owner, whatever the
(10:50):
term you want to use, isafter their truck plunges off a cliff.
This is kind of the way theold Lassie Show worked. You know,
Lassie would run get help, barkand the townspeople would figure out what Lassie
was barking about, and somehow, well, here you go. This literally
(11:11):
happened biver went over an embankment ona forest road in Oregon. One of
his dogs turned into a canine heroby running away and getting help. The
man lost control on a curve, the truck crashing into a stream. He
had four dogs with him, andone of them made it back to camp
four miles away and alerted the otherpeople who had been with the driver.
They in turn alerted the sheriff's apartment, and a search and rescue team found
(11:33):
the truck. The driver air liftedto the hospital. All of the dogs
survived the crack. I mean, what's missing there is what we really want,
right, which is how did theyknow that the dog was trying to
communicate something? Isn't that what youwant to know there? You want to
know how just the dogs showing up? I mean, how did they figure
(11:54):
out, you know, where therewas a crash and maybe you know it's
a I'm figuring they saw the dog. They knew the dog was with the
guy, So if the dog's notwith the guy, something happened with the
guy. Then they go out andit's a you know, it's one of
those one lane roads, and theythen find the crash site. It's probably
something along those lines, but fourmiles from the crash site. I mean,
(12:18):
that's extraordinary. Wow, quite thestory. If you fly United,
if you're toggling through the in flightfilm and TV show options, you already
see ads, you'll now see athirty second commercial that will reflect information United
(12:41):
has compiled on you, like whereyou live, destinations you've traveled to.
The CEO of United's Mileage Plus madea statement today, quote, We've built
a first of its kind, realtime time ad tech enabled traveler media network
(13:03):
where brands have already started connecting topremium audiences at an unmatched scale. Now
CI CEO, he cranks that stuffout. There's been a huge strategic shift,
he says, within this high growthsector in the past five years,
where advertisers and brands have come togetherto determine how best to connect with the
(13:24):
consumers in a way that's valuable, effective and personalized. This is way.
This is way into the digital world, which is all about exactly who you
are. It's associated with the stuffon your phone that's constantly being scraped for
information about you. And they haveone hundred thousand of those seatback screens on
(13:48):
United, and they have us sittingthere for about on average, three and
a half hours of attention. Theysaid that they're only going to use the
information on passengers eighteen and older, and all customers have the option of opting
out of this targeted advertising at anytime, but they are now using that
(14:13):
data to perhaps target us with stuffwe should buy. Meantime, if you
want to get on the plane earlyon Southwest Airlines, they have really jacked
up the costs. It's one hundredand forty nine dollars if you want to
(14:33):
get on the plane early on Southwest. Again, you know, Southwest does
not have assigned seats open seating,so if you board first, you get
better options, you get that overheadspace. They now say they're going to
be two paid services that will allowfor boarding earlier, and they've increased the
price of both of them as muchas three hundred percent. Early bird check
(14:56):
in now goes from fifteen to ninetynine dollars one way per passenger rather than
fifteen dollars to twenty five dollars before, so now it could be as much
as one hundred dollars ninety nine dollars. Upgraded boarding is now thirty dollars to
one hundred and forty nine dollars apassenger per segment. It used to be
thirty to eighty dollars. It meansif you want the early check in option,
(15:22):
you could pay four times as muchas you do now. Well,
I mean it's all getting heftier whenit comes to travel, and as it
turns out, Southwest is joining theparty. When we come back, something
bizarre happened. Did you see whathappened on the or hear about what happened
(15:48):
during a team meeting of an NFLteam wild I'll have the story next.
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior ondemand from KFI Am six forty. Hey,
Mark, Yes, Sharon, Inoticed that we're almost finished with the
show and you haven't mentioned your YouTubeshow, are you okay? I mean,
(16:14):
finally we would have mentioned it,like virus times, tisk I don't
like to use this platform to mentionmy YouTube show, which airs daily on
YouTube from eleven until one pm Pacifictime. It's seen all around the world,
and of course it's available on demandon YouTube and of course across all
(16:37):
podcast platforms including iHeartRadio. It's hugelypopular. It is doing okay. It's
called the Mark Thompson Show. It'snews and politics centric, but we also
do a lot of fun stuff onthe show too. I mean, the
politics and the news can be funas well. But thank you, Sharon.
It's not like me to let amention for my show Tube show get
(17:00):
into the outfield on us like that. Yeah, I was a little shocked.
Were distracted by everything else going onhere. Thank you. I'm well,
as you know when I sit inthe and Tim does it as well.
The plug for the Mark Thompson Showis brought to you by a sponsor,
(17:21):
and in this case, it's aone day treatment, life changing results.
Make your appointment today at Advanced hairdot com. Bravo love our advanced
hair people. Yeah, there yougo, and thank you for reminding me.
The Burnbank cops have released a statementand you may, if you joined
us late, have missed the factthat there is a viral video going around
(17:45):
now and we kind of drilled downon it earlier talking about what happened today.
We did it with the Michael Monkswho spoke at some length about how
a homeless person was dropped off bythe Burnbank cop in front of the office
of Paul ker coryon the councilman. So there was no response earlier today when
(18:08):
we were doing the story from theBurbank cops who were involved in it was
a police cruiser that was involved,so you know it was a marked Burbank
police cruiser and so it in away was begging for some kind of response
from the cops. Well, I'venow issued a state but it just came
in seconds ago, and I'll kindof summarize it, although I'll try to
give you some chunks of it here. The Burbank Police Department is aware of
(18:32):
a video circulating that shows Burbank policeofficer dropping off an individual on a sidewalk
in North Hollywood. The Burbank PoliceDepartment initially responded to a call for service
at around eight p forty five thismorning regarding a naked individual sitting at a
bus stop near Buena Vista Street inAlameda Avenue, just outside of Providence Saint
(18:55):
Joseph Medical Center. They go onresponding police officers located the individual, found
him lucid and communicative, offered himclothing. The individual refused to accept the
clothing as he had his own, they say, and after a brief conversation,
the individual got dressed. Officers askedthe individual if he needed assistance,
(19:18):
and he said that he was homelessand he'd been transported to the hospital from
the Sunland to Hunga area. Soit's interesting just to step out of the
statement for a minute that you know, this guy's getting transported from one place
to another. He said that hehad a leg injury that he'd suffered many
years ago, and officers learned thathe had left the hospital voluntarily prior to
(19:40):
the officer's arrival. Upon inquiry, they say again, this is the Burdbank
cops. The individual declined any medicalservice. The individual did not appear to
have transportation, and to gain cooperationfor the individual to put on clothing,
the officers offered to drive the individualto a place of his choosing. Initially,
(20:03):
the individual has to be taken tosunlandt Tohunga and ultimately agreed to be
transported to the Metro red Line inNorth Hollywood. He voluntarily got into the
patrol vehicle and was driven toward theMetro red Line station. This is where
it gets really interesting. Along theway, the individual has to be let
(20:25):
out of the patrol vehicle to getcoffee. The officers complied immediately with his
request, pulled over and let theindividual out of the patrol vehicle in the
fifty two hundred block of lancash AndBoulevard. So there you go, the
Burdbank Police Department, it goes on. This is the end of the statement.
(20:48):
The Burdbank Police Department is currently conductingan in depth investigation into this incident,
including the actions of the involved policeofficers. The investigation will include a
review of all available body worn andin car footage, interviews with witnesses,
and any other relevant evidence. TheBurbank Police Department remains committed to treating the
unhoused community with compassion and respect andthanks Los Angeles City Council President Balker Corrian
(21:15):
for bringing this matter to our attention. So that's the entire statement. I
didn't leave anything out. I justfelt once I started, I thought you
should hear the whole thing. Butwhat's interesting to me is that you know,
they're like taking it on face value. Like many things, there is
more to the story than we know, and I think that there'll be more
(21:36):
to the story even as details arefilled in beyond this. But that was
the news of the day, largelybecause of the video let's be honest.
I mean, there's not video ofthat guy getting dropped off. We're probably
not even talking about this. Butthat's the Burbank Police Department statement tonight.
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior ondemand from KFI AM Dick Van Dyke.
(22:03):
By the way, from the newsbooth now to the main studio. Andrew
has come, the Andrew Caravella whowas filling in for Crozer today. So
I just thought you would like toknow this. I mean, he's an
American entertainment institution, Dick Van Dyke. He's ninety eight years old, and
he wins at the Daytime Emmys. He's the oldest winner ever at ninety eight.
(22:26):
And you would say, well, what did he win for? I
mean, he's not on daytime TV. Yes he is. He did a
little stint on Days of Our Livesand Days of Our Lives which lives on
Peacock had at ninety eight, DickVan Dyke as an actor, and he
(22:48):
slid into the fifty first Daytime EmmyAwards just were held hours ago and he
was the oldest nominee ever. Andnow he's the oldest Daytime Emmy winner ever.
He's pretty sharp. You'll have tosteffush, you have to turn on
Andrew's mike place. Yeah, it'sthat on button there far left. Thank
(23:11):
you. He's pretty sharp for beingninety eight. It's really impressive. Yeah.
And he can. Yeah, hemoves well and he's sharp. Used
to be a dancer, I guess, so really incredible. I mean,
I don't mean to, you know, look at the dark side of things,
but I do think if you're theother people in that category this year
(23:33):
and Dick Van Dyke is one ofthe nominees, you're thinking, dude,
seriously. I mean, I finallyget a Daytime Emmy and I'm up against
Dick Van Dyke. As egotistical asI am, I would find it an
honor to lose to Dick Van Dyke. Yeah, No, I don't think
well, I mean, it's anEmmy is hard to win, and I
think it. Look, I'm surethey were honored to be in the category
(23:57):
nominated a long sign, but Ithink they would have liked to have won.
He beat out a field that includedLyndon Ashby from The Young and the
Restless, Ashley Jones from The Boldand the Beautiful, Ali Mills from General
Hospital, Guy Pierce as Mike Young, but Dick Van Dyke he carried the
(24:19):
day. Meantime. The other bighistory, of course, is that Pat
Sayjack is saying goodbye to wheel Thisis it tonight, bye bye, we
played you Vana's farewell. You knowthey shoot all of Wheel of Fortune?
They shoot it. How many daysa month do you think they shoot Wheel
(24:41):
of Fortune? Oh, it's gota well it's TV, right, So
a lot of them in a day. So I'm going to say a month
is done in a week. Yeah, let me just see. I think
they shoot everything in two days forthe month. Yeah, I think that
that's It's insane. That's a goodchild. They work here. It is
four days a month, your class, four days a month, four days
(25:06):
a month, forty eight days ayear. So that comes out to three
hundred and twelve thousand, five hundreddollars a day. Because he under the
twenty sixteen deal, was making fifteenmillion dollars a season. Oka he at
(25:27):
fifteen million and Vana is making threemillion. Well, I mean she just
again, she just pushes the wallletters, that's all. Well, don't
say just I mean, I'd liketo see you try it. Well,
she's got a walk to them,of course, Yeah, it's not.
I mean she makes it look easy, like a lot of things in this
(25:48):
business, Andrew, it's not aseasy as it looks, and she's certainly
worth Now. The other thing Ishould tell you about both of them is
that they made double that money withcasino licensing. Okay, the slot machines.
Yeah, because their likeness is usedin so many different marketing areas.
(26:08):
Wow, so pretty incredible. RyanSeacrest will take over, and it's good
that he's getting some work that Ryan, it really is. Yeah, nice
to see him finally stepping up andgetting a break. But we feel a
little close to Pat's say, Jack, because he used to be a weather
(26:30):
guy right across the street at NBCand MERV Griffin tapped him to do Wheel
and the rest is history. Fortyone season. It's really cool, Andrew,
you were a great filling for Crows, it says so cool. Yeah,
have a great week, Can haveany super big plan that you want
to share with us? Yeah,I'll be a KAFI tomorrow. Okay,
(26:51):
Well, twelve to six in onSunday KFI twelve to six Wow, all

all right, Uh, MO isout. Tiffany Hobbs next for mo.
Thanks everybody, look forward to seeingyou guys soon. Thank you, Stafo
sharing everybody. Len's nice job. It's KFI AM six. What's that?
(27:15):
It was keiky today? I waskeky. I'm sorry, I said,
Lindsay kik excuse me? Well nowI've been I don't feel like I've stuck
the landing. Can I stay ona few more minutes and then I can
