It's KFI Am sixty and you're listeningto the Conway Show on demand on the
Heart Radio app. And maybe youheard this story yesterday where there was a
bus shooting. Yeah. Now there'sa live press conference going on in Channel
eleven right now. We're monitoring it. But CHP has announced an arrest in
the Foothill bus shooting. So lookslike they got their guy. How great

(00:26):
that show was, Chips. Youwatch a show Crosier when you're younger,
Chips Highway Patrol. Oh grat Ibet Bellio loved it, the Bellio type
of show. You really filmed mostof them, the one eighteen Freeway,
the one eighteen Freeway that's right beforeit was finished, and they would be
filming out there every day. AndI remember watching Chips and there was an

(00:51):
a story where you know, aguy was speeding and shooting or whatever it
was. And then the b storywas people stealing plants along the side of
the on the shoulder of that freeway, and I'm like, wow, this
this series is not gonna last long. Were you a genre a punch guy,
I'd like both of them. Iactually have a paunch story about that.

(01:15):
Who's the guy that played punch EricDestrada. I was with my dad
in Hawaii and Eric e Strada cameup to my dad and they were talking
for a while because well they're bothyou know, celebrities and celebrities you know,
chit chat about celebrity stuff. AndEric e Strada was saying that he

(01:38):
he hates going on vacation because hegets mobbed all the time, and you
know, people constantly interrupt him atdinner and lunch and when he's with his
family, and my Dad's like,I really know that problem. And my
dad was the exact opposite. Hewould if anyone asked for an autograph,
no matter what he was doing,my dad would stop and talk to him
for sometimes like twenty minutes. Ithink that's part of one of the things

(02:00):
that people love about him is theycould feel that from him. Yeah,
I think so. I think sobecause my dad always said, look without
these people that have nothing. Yeah, he never seemed to take what the
success he had for granted, yeah, one hundred percent. And so Eric
Estrada was complaining for a half houron how people you know, he doesn't
like to be bothered on a vacation, and then literally twenty minutes later,

(02:23):
he swims out. It was atthe Kahala Hilton in Hawaii, and he
swims out to this little tiny Idon't know, like an island or a
peninsula, and he whistles and heyells to his manager to get him a
nice tea, and everybody on thebeach is looking. I'm like, all
right, for a guy who doesn'treally like to, you know, be

(02:44):
bothered, he certainly is drawing alot of attention to himself. Right,
Yeah, that's true. But Ilike that show that that chips Man,
what a great opening. You don'tremember the opening theme song to that show?
This to do that heartbeat Chip, but a sholler Chip California. I

(03:34):
have a jaw. Today's episode,Who's Littering? Its dying Larry Wilcoon as
It's obser bigger Eric's data as Popalso starling Robert Pye. Chip scene in

(04:08):
Kettler shot in front of a liveaudience. I don't know if that's true
or not. I wonder if EricusStrata would take the attention today that he
had back then. I don't know. You know, Eric Estrada was huge
in he did a soap opera inMexico and he was like the number one
guy. He can't walk around anywherein Mexico. Man, he is a

(04:30):
huge, huge He's like a friendlylast like ten fifteen years. He was
like, he's like the Frank Sinatrain Mexico. I mean he cannot walk
anywhere in Mexico without being mobbed. He was in that new show on Amazon,
Fallout that's based on the video, and that was really popular just a
month or two ago. He's agreat actor and a terrific guy. I
like that dude a lot. Ienjoyed that program that chips. Yeah,

(04:56):
man, love it all. Right. The bus shooting, let's find out
what happened here, But they theygot their guy. Another bus incident,
looking for the gunman who shot awoman, Well, they found the gunman.
They found the gun a woman ona Foothill transit bus in Baldwin Park.
Investigator said happened around six last nightafter an argument between two men.
The fight broke out as the buswas pulling up to the twenty Avenue stop
on the westbound ten Freeway. Thebus driver tried to calm things down before

(05:20):
the suspect pulled out the gun.Yeah, an all hell broke loose,
all right. That wasn't the onlyincident of violence in the last twenty four
thirty six hours. We also hadthat USC stabbing. That's a weird story.
We'll come back and tell you aboutthat. But this has a lot
of moving, crazy parts in it. It happened where I think USC has

(05:44):
just wrapped up their year, rightin fraternity row there next to USC where
homeless guy I got killed. We'regonna come back and tell you about that
story. That is a wild story, a lot of crazy details. You're
listening to Tim Conway Junior on demandfrom KFI Am six forty. We had

(06:04):
bad vibes coming out of USC.University of Southern California, private university,
fairly expensive to go to, veryprestigious, usually has a good football program
and a lot of people like USC. And if you talk to people who've
attended there, who maybe graduated fromthere, Alex Michaelson is a perfect example.

(06:28):
He's very loyal to that school.I've noticed that people who graduate from
USC they talk about how great thatschool is all the time, all the
time, and so it must bea decent place to go. It's expensive,
but I think it's a great youknow, positive for southern California.

(06:49):
That school is right here in ourbackyard. It rivals some of the great
schools in the world. You know, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, you
know some of those schools, Berkeley, and it's right here in southern California.
But the vibes have gone bad,at least for a little while.

(07:10):
Here. Greek Row is usually prettyquiet during the summer months. But this
was a murder scene last night whena USC student allegedly stabbed a homeless man
trying to break into his car,a car breaking a violent confrontation. And
now a USC student is under arrestfor murder. Wow, for murder,

(07:30):
for murder. Guys trying to yourrip off your car and you stab him
to death and they're going to callthat murder. I need a little more
here, and now a USC studentis under arrest for murder. Sack.
This woman, who did not wantto be identified, works at the Delta
Tau Delta fraternity house near the USCcampus. She says that the nineteen year

(07:53):
old student who was arrested is amember of the fraternity and lives at the
house. LAPD identified him as IvanGayegos and says he saw homeless man breaking
into his car, and there wereparking lot of the frat house Last night
around eight fifteen, Police said Gayegisconfronted the man and ended up stabbing him
to death. Just last month,USC Sannenberg Media published a profile of Gayegos,

(08:18):
describing him as an up and comingmusical artist who's attending the Marshall School
of Business, but that description hasprobably been taken off the internet. Describing
him as an up and coming musicalartist who's attending the Marshall School of Business.
Man, oh man, Look,I I I don't know. You
know, guy's robbing your car andyou go after him. I think that

(08:41):
when you're in the business of stealingpeople's crap that I think you're aware that
it might end in disaster for you. But they're going to charge this kid
with murder. Murder like he wentout and you know and purposely went out
trying to look for somebody to kill, nice, polite, educated kind.

(09:03):
You know. It's a young person, a young life, a young future,
and you know, unfortunately what happenedwas really that USC has not released
any information about the attack. Investigatorssay Gago stayed at the scene and was
arrested without incident. Police have notreleased the name of the man who was

(09:24):
killed, depending notification of his family. He said to be in his thirties.
Meantime, the stabbing, Oh mygod, is coming as a shock
to USC students who live here.Does this area feel safe to you?
A? Yeah, it usually is, especially during the day or during school
time. Maybe right now since everyone'sgone, it's a bit empty here.
But we usually have like DPS overhere in yellowduggets, so this is surprising.

(09:46):
What's but we usually have like DPSover here in yellowduggets, So this
is surprising. Yellow yellow jackets andDPS. That's some kind of security down
there. I guess the p DPS. Yeah, I don't know what that
stands for, of public safety.Okay, that's a good one. They're
all over it because when I usedto do uber there, like on every
other block, and I guess they'rejust supposed to watch, you know,

(10:07):
kind of like neighborhood watch. Iguess not very good plagudps over here in
yellow taggers, so this is surprising. Diego's was booked for murder. His
bail has been set at two milliondollars. Two million dollars. Man,
oh man, Man that kid's lifeand that homeless guy's life. Everybody changed
overnight. That is that's a wildstory, crazy, crazy story coming out

(10:31):
of usc uh. So we'll followthat see where that ends up. But
that's man, man, oh man, something's going on. Something's going on
with this town. Something is crazy. There was a pursuit that ended in
a wild drug buzz. The shockingthree point four million dollars worth of meth
and fed mean was found in theback of that white pickup truck. How

(10:52):
much the shocking three point four milliondollars worth of metal three and a half
million dollars of meth. It's gotaway a ton, according to California Highway
Patrol officers, and the driver wasarrested and taken into custody. A massive
drug must in downtown l A.Air seven got a good Well have you
ever done math? And phat?I mean you don't want to talk about

(11:13):
it? Okay, I get it, I got steps. Have you done
math? I can't say that.I have no Crozier. You've done it?
Angel? Have you done math? No? No? Tim? Have
you not yet? Not yet?But Tim, I'm offended. I have
not done meth as far as youknow. Okay, have coroage you ever,

(11:33):
I've never even seen math. Haveyou seen it? Really? What's
the high? Like? You know, sorry, what's the high? Like?
I mean for people have done itaround you that you know obviously you've
seen it. It's like I've beentold, it's like a like like the
top of your head kind of likeuh like opens up with in heat,

(11:56):
you know, kind of like youfeel you feel heat coming out at the
top of your head kind of types. Well, for people who want that,
I guess that works. So doesit look like the stuff that we
saw in that show Breaking Bad?Sure? Yes, yeah, that's it.
It's like crystal yeah yeah, crystalmeth, crystal meth, yeah yeah,
like large granules of like salt orsomething like that. Yeah. Man,

(12:18):
stephis You and I would be greatdetectives. The way we work with
each other like that. You golike, oh, it's like crystals.
You're like, yeah, Tim,crystal meth Like okay, yeah, all
right, we're gonna get our guy. Air seven got a good look at
the more than one hundred and ninetypounds of meth and fetamine confiscated by law
enforcement this morning. You got almosttwo hundred pounds of math two hundred pounds

(12:39):
you can retire on that. Youcan see officers laid out the drugs here
on Second Street and Figure Row outsideof Promenada Towers apartments. The drugs are
being transported and this white f oneto fifty pickup truck with tinted windows,
and the driver of that truck tookCalifornia Highway Patrol officers on a wild ride.
This all started when HP officers noticedthe white truck necklessly crossover a gore

(13:01):
point on the I five heading northdown near Boyle Avenue. Man, when
you're driving one hundred ninety pounds ofmeth around, you've got to really mind
your signal and your speed and reallynot make stupid mistakes. Yeah. You
know how when you see somebody likein the news and it's assumed or presumed
that or stated that they're on methand they're usually the people that are really

(13:22):
thin, because it decreases your appetite. It also makes you like, oh
wake you know, is that right? Yeah, and very physically active.
That's whether there's a lot of likejitteriness almost. We had a guy help
us move in Oregon who we laterfound out was on meth amphetamine and he
was a good mover. It's almostlike an extreme version of cocaine. I

(13:43):
guess you could say, yeah, this guy moved everything into the house in
like eight minutes. He was onthe ball. But he also I think
also what comes along with meth istinkering with things like we had a it's
a stupid story, but we hada closed dryer that was electric and we
were moving into an apartment that hadgas and he goes, He goes,

(14:05):
I can take this this electric closeddryer and make it a gas a closed
dryer in about twenty minutes. Ijust need parts and tools. I'm like,
oh, buddy, let's just putit in never mind, I don't
need the parts, you can makethem. Yeah, but that crystal myth.
People enjoy that. I guess theyliked that. They tried to stop

(14:28):
the driver, but he kept going. A pursuit ensued traversing in various city
streets and freeways to where then thevehicle then stopped along Second Street South.
The figure out at that point intime, softsters put the individual into custody.
You know has got to be pissedis the guy who gave him the
one hundred and ninety pounds of methto move, and then he gets busted,

(14:50):
and now all that meth is gone, you know, it's it's just
disappeared. I don't know how expensiveit is to make, but I imagine
to make a one hundred ninety poundsof it take takes a while, and
it's expensive, you know, twopoint three million dollars. And they discovered
over one hundred ninety pounds and metthe phetamine drugs within the vehicle along with
five thousand dollars cash. Oh yeah, and they was swerving. All he

(15:13):
had to do is just obey thetraffic laws and he probably could have made
it. The suspect and driver ofthat white truck is being described as a
forty seven year old male. Wow, that's kind of an on the older
end of being in the meth game. Forty seven. The suspect and driver
of that white truck is being describedas a forty seven year old male.

(15:35):
But the scene cleaned up pretty quickly. That pickup truck towed away for investigating.
This is being investigated by California HighwayPatrol. No word if that suspect
is tied to a drug trafficking ringor if he has a criminal record.
I'm going to say probably yes toboth, if that suspect is tied to
a drug trafficking ring, or I'mgonna say that's probably a ring involved.
If he has a criminal record,maybe I don't know, Maybe he doesn't.

(15:58):
Maybe he's broke and just want togo for one big score and he
blew it. And our data journalismteam found the latest information we have from
the LA High Intensity Drug Trafficking AreaProgram. It shows in twenty twenty two,
law enforcement seized one thousand, onehundred and thirty four tons of illegal
drugs. Wow, that is ahuge number. Law enforcement seized one thousand,

(16:18):
one hundred and thirty four tons ofillegal drugs one thousand, one hundred
and thirty four tons for the wholesalevalue of six point one billion dollars.
WHOA six billion dollars For the wholesalevalue of six point one billion dollars.
They dismantled four meth conversion labs anddisrupted two hundred and ninety eight drug trafficking
organizations. Man oh Man, Fromwhat I understand, though, that myth

(16:42):
is really tough to kick. Youknow, once you get that meth high,
that's really tough tough to drop thatyou're listening to Tim Conway Junior on
Demayo from KFI AM six forty.I read this online. It's not something
I came up with. I readonline and I happened to try it and

(17:03):
it worked beautifully. So I'm goingto lay it on you. You hate
mosquitoes, right, You can't standthem. They bite you, it itches,
you're up all night scratching. Maybeyou're like my wife you never get
bit once in your life. Ormaybe you're like me and you get bit
twenty times a week. For somereason, the mosquitoes love me. I
don't know why, they just do. I got a huge bite on my

(17:23):
neck right now. It's driving mecrazy. So I reduced the mosquitos in
our house probably buy ninety five percentwith something that costs very little money,
and their drain covers. A lotof mosquitoes come through the drain, either

(17:45):
in the shower or the bathtub ora sink, and maybe it's a sink
you don't use the house very often, and they lay their eggs in there
in the water and then they comeup through the drain. So I literally
went to home depot and bought somerubber drain stops, and I put them
in all the drains in the house, and I have not seen a single

(18:07):
mosquito in the house this year. And it's cheap too. I think it
was a dollar twenty six for arubber drain cover. It happens to work.
Happens to work, so it's anidea worked for us. I got
bit with this mosquito outside, wentoutside, was watering some plants and bang,
I got hit. But in thehouse we've reduced the mosquitoes probably by

(18:32):
ninety five percent or more just bycovering the drains when you're not using them.
Now you also have to remember thatthey're covered, so when you take
a shower, you don't forget thedrains covered and then the water goes all
over the house. You gotta rememberthat as well. But that's on you,
that's on me, that's you.But covering your drains that you don't

(18:55):
use, it's turned out to bea huge, huge advantage in reducing mosquitos
in the house. So try it. What do you got to lose?
Cost you a buck fifty and maybegot ten drains in the house, So
under twenty dollars twenty five bucks, cover all those drains and keep those mosquitos
out of your house. And it'snot something I came up with. I

(19:17):
read it online and it happens towork. So try it if you want.
You know, if you hate mosquitoslike I do, you get a
lot of mosquitos out there. AndClaremont Crazier, They mosquito's a lot out
there. I'm not too bad,at least not where I'm at. Man,
we've dry a out, knocked alot of stuff out. Yeah,
definitely gets dry. I don't likethose mosquitos. And here's maybe a little

(19:40):
lone fact. Maybe you know this, maybe you're in the mosquito game and
you've been you know, you've knownthis for years. The female mosquitos bite
the male mosquitos. They leave youalone. A male mosquito has never bitten
anybody in the history of the planet. They just don't do that. They
leave you alone. Not like theguys at the track, not even the

(20:02):
ankle biter Skeeters, the female allfemale, all women ladies. Yeah,
a lighty light skeeters late. I'llget you, yeah, I'll get you
all right. Long Beach, theygot a problem in Long Beach. I'm
gonna come back and tell you whatit is. It's a big one.
It's a big one. If youlive in Blong Beach and we play the

(20:23):
story, you're like, oh,that kid's right. That kid on KFI
man a kid is right. Gladhe got out of modeling and in the
information game because now he's telling usstuff we need to know. If you
live in Long Beach, you aregoing to want to listen to this next
story period. So if you're LongBeach, stay in the car. I

(20:44):
finish your sandwich, but make sureyou're listening. We'll come back. It's
going to affect you. You're listeningto Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
Am six forty. I'm a hugefan of Long Beach. I used to
live in Seal Beach and I usedto Long Beach all the time, Belmont
Shore area and then into Long BeachPine Street. Man, what a beautiful

(21:04):
town, and they've really improved itover the last ten or twenty years.
They've really made it a very safeplace to live, great to raise kids
in Long Beach, very centrally locatedif you're going to go anywhere, very
easy to get to everything. Everybodyat the Long Beach Airport is great,

(21:25):
but there is a problem in LongBeach. I'm going to point out to
you here that businesses they're upset overthe police response. What's going on.
Businesses in downtown Long Beach have beenhit with another string of attacks and break
in. That's right. Three morebusinesses were hit just in the last ten
days, and even more have beenvandalized. Yeah, that is a problem
in Long Beach. They get alot a lot of vandalized businesses. Nbcfors,

(21:51):
mccullob, the Gana Joints's Life fromLong Beach and Max shop owners are
telling you that police weren't too quickto respond here. Yeah, they're very
concerned about the response time. Fourhours. Happened at four am. Police
did get here until about eight o'clock. This is the place where it happened.
That's unacceptable. What's going on there? Four hours to get to a
break in on Sunday on Father's Day. You can see it's boarded up right

(22:12):
now. A lot of shop ownersare worried about the police response times.
I beat police. Police has notdid not make it here yet. Kimberly
Lateam can't believe she got to theshop before police. She sat in her
car worried and puzzled. My officersdidn't show up for four hours. I
didn't see PD down here. Iwas just like, oh no, and

(22:33):
so yeah, just your some extinctjust like you just feel helpless. We
reached out to Long Beach Police forcomment. They told us they're working on
a response. M Oh no,oh no. The breaking comes as a
Wabbi Sabbie market up the road washit. Surveillance video caught the door window
being smashed, suspects inside oh no, oh no, yeah, that's right,

(22:55):
and taking items, and the CultureShoe shop was also hit this weekend.
Wait which shop? Let's hit andtaking items? And the Culture Shoe
shop was also hit this weekend.Oh no, no, yeah, I'm
with that lady with the oh nosman, oh no, and taking items
and the Culture Shoe shop was alsohit this weekend. We're just like to

(23:17):
stop the bleeding, like right now. Our company are like our community small
business community is just like dying.Oh no, no no, because we're
getting hit from all levels. Ohno, no, no, no levels.
On June seventh, of vandal targetat seven stores in the same neighborhood

(23:38):
and more than two dozen cars, meshing windows and damaging property. No one
was hurt here and the man wasarrested. We want a thriving business community
and a thriving neighborhood where people feelsafe to walk down it's right. Oh
no, oh no, people feelsafe doing business right now. Latham says
they do not have that. Actuallycloses up her shop Monday through Friday to

(24:03):
avoid issues. Oh no, yeah. We did see police put up these
mobile surveillance cameras off Broadway, andLinden late them. Says they've asked for
those after the first series of vandalism. She says it is more surveillance,
but still no deterrence. It doesput an eyeball out there that like,
we're watching you and we see you, and so I think I think anything

(24:25):
helps, anything's more than what itis right now. Yeah, that's correct.
Oh no, yeah, it ishorrible how many shops are getting broken
into. If you turn the newson every single day, there's another crew
of five, six, seven ladsthat come in with the masks on break
the windows, and a lot oftimes the most damage and the most costly

(24:48):
thing for these businesses is the repairof the front door. That could be
you know, four or five, six thousand dollars just to repair the door
and the windows that they broke toget in. You know, there might
be some stores in the future thatleave the front door open. A lot
of people have convertibles do that.If you have a convertible car, you
leave the doors open because you don'twant somebody putting a knife through the you

(25:10):
know, your your convertible top ofthe car. That's what costs you the
most money. That's one thing Iwas worried about having a convertible when I
did. Yeah. Yeah, ithappened to a friend of mine, a
guy named George Palamine, had aconvertible and a guy and at least his
windows, his doors open all thetime, so nobody, you know,
takes a knife and breaks his youknow, rips apart his convertible top and

(25:33):
his doors were open. And theguy still took a knife and didn't realize
the doors were open and cut opena big hole in his top. And
that's expensive. That could be youknow, four or five thousand dollars to
replace the top. And you can'tjust put a piece of duct tape over
it, I discovered, because thateventually is going to leak. So and
that's that's the problem with convertibles. Is the rain. There's so many different

(25:57):
places a convertible top can go southon you, so many different ways.
And then once you have your convertibletop ripped open by a knife, all
you can say is oh no,oh, no, oh no, put
an eyeball out there. Yeah, you got to put some more eyeballs out
there. Long Beach did respond toour call for comments just a short time

(26:19):
ago. Here's what they said. The police department officers were dispatched to calls
for service based on priority. Duringthe call that involves this incident, there
is also they were told a callfor multiple arsenal incidents in North Long Beach.
Oh no, no, yeh,a hit, shooting and a battery
in the downtown entertainment district. Theysay officers responded when they were able to

(26:41):
the response time here three hours andfifty one minutes after the initial response.
Oh that's not good. That's notgood at all. That would never ever
happen in Burbank. There's never anincident where a guy reports at the store
being robbed and they don't get therefor four hours. Just wouldn't happen.

(27:02):
I guess they're just too thin inLong Beach. Need more cops, more
cops in Burton in Long Beach,Oh no, no, oh, yes,
is what you need. We're dispatchedto calls for service based on priority.
Yeah, three hours and fifty oneminutes and a battery in the downtown
entertainment district. They say officers respondedwhen they were able to the response time

(27:22):
here three hours and fifty one minutesafter the initial response. You can understand
why all of those business owners arestill concerned about that response time. They're
going to have an emergency meeting, they say, with police on Thursday to
address some of these issues and hopefullyget a better response time when these issues
pop up again. Eleven Downtown LongBeacho, Mconomadina, NBC boardings Zoom no

(27:45):
oh no, oh no oh no. You would think, though, just
by you know, sure lock, that there'll be a cop rolling by one
of these businesses. It would beit was being broken into and they caught
them red handed. But they rarelyhappens, really happen, and these guys
get in and out in a minuteand a half, two minutes and they're
gone. Do they have Do theystill have lookouts like they did back in

(28:06):
the day? I bet they do. I bet they do. Yeah,
I imagine they do. They're prettysophisticated and they realize that, you know,
there aren't enough cops to handle theamount of crime. But that being
said, I still I love LongBeach. It's a cool area. A
lot of great people live in LongBeach, Belmont Shore, Seal Beach.

(28:27):
It really is a terrific place tolive. Great, great community. Busy
in the summer, busy, Alot of people come into Long Beach,
Seal Beach, Belmont Shore. Butman, that is a beautiful place to
raise kids if you can afford it. You got that kind of dough to
live in Belmont Shore and raise kids. You knocked it out. You gotta
going on, man, you gottagoing on. Yeah, dig dong with

(28:51):
you in Long Beach. Great greattown, great part of La County.

New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
