It's k IF. I am sixforty and you're listening to the Conway Show
on demand on the iHeartRadio app.I'm going to be here tomorrow. I
know. It says in the schedulethat I'm out. I'm not out.
I'm here tomorrow. I'll be workinghere tomorrow from three or from four pm
until seven pm. I'll be sittingin the seat. So I know on
this schedule people were text me sayinghey or email me saying hey for your

(00:24):
live reads. And I said, well, I'm going to be here and
said, well, we have youmarked absent tomorrow. I said, well,
I'm not going to be absent tobe here and uh and crozers,
you're gonna be here too, Yes, sir, that's great, dude.
Yeah, yeah, we'll be Itwill treat the fourth of July. Treat
for the peeps. Hey, we'llput up We'll bring in sparklers or something,
you know, like that burn myhouse down? What the hell?

(00:47):
All right, We've got a lotof news to get, two tons and
tons of it, including a localstory here out of Burbank. A lot
of people like to fly out ofBurbank, California. It's very convenient.
I know, My buddy Sean Murphyhates when I talk about He listened Burbank
and he said, buddy, youwe got to keep this Burbank Airport a
secret. You can't keep talking aboutit. A little update on the Simi

(01:10):
Valley of oh a fire. Whathave we got? What do we got?
Dropping the fire retardant that you seehere, It's going to be that
red there and hopefully their hope hereis that they're going to be able to
hold it to Lost Canyon and toprevent any of those homes from catching fire.
They also have multiple helicopters overhead, and we're about to see a fire
fire retardant drop take place right now. So I'll hold the shot here as

(01:33):
the fixed wing aircraft comes into theframe here and they're going to drop a
line of fire retardant right next tothose homes to hopefully protect them from the
fire. Again, this is goingto be the sharp fire forty three acres
and counting here in Sea May Valley. That's latest from us shop before I'm
Leon Marino. Okay, that's nota major fire. It doesn't look like

(01:55):
it's that big. I know thepeople in Sey Valley get really paranoid.
When they see fire, and rightfullyso, but they have a handle on
this one. There's not a lotof wind out there. I know it's
dry and it's hot, but thisis not one of those rajor fires like
we've seen in the past. Itis right next to them houses though,
Man, that was okay, andlook like on both sides of it,
Yeah it is. It's blowing awayfrom the homes. So I don't think

(02:17):
it's the major disaster that the peopleare portraying it. Remember back a while
ago, I think it was theAnaheim Hills when one house after another after
another burned to the ground. Thatwas a major, major fire. There's
another one happened in Chatsworth a coupleof years back, where you know a
ton of homes burned to the ground. But in Semi Valley they have an

(02:39):
advantage because there's a tremendous amount ofclearance between the homes and the mountains,
and there are very few people thatlive in the mountains in Semi Valley.
They're almost all vacant around Seamy Valley. There's a college there that's in the
mountains, and there's a few ranchis, but you don't get like,

(03:01):
for instance, like Northridge, Chatsworth, Valencia, all those areas out there.
Uh you know, those areas havehomes everywhere in the mountains, New
Hall, they're everywhere. But inSeeming Valley, somebody was smart in Seeming
Valley. They said, let's makethis little valley where people can come and

(03:23):
enjoy themselves and shop and live andraised kids. But let's not put a
ton of homes in the mountains, because that's where the real danger is with
these fires. And they didn't andnow and and it pays off with days
like today where it's you know, you don't see one home after another after
another burn to the ground. Itmakes sense. I mean, not just

(03:45):
the fact that you know, it'sit's that's where the issues are. Is
the fact that it's it's almost impossiblesometimes for firefighters to get there if there
is a problem. Yeah, anyway, so it makes those air drops so
much easier too. I mean, ask the people in bel Air or what
that's like. You know, withall those small, windy streets for fire
engine to get up there, it'simpossible on some of these streets. And

(04:05):
they didn't do that in Simi Valley, mostly because it's a newer neighborhood.
It's not as old as Brentwood orthe San Fernando Valley. It's a relatively
new area in southern California, likein the last you know, thirty or
forty years. But I remember whenI was growing up and we go to
Seemi Valley. First of all, there was no freeway to get there.
The one eighteen was not there.Wow, So you'd have to go over

(04:28):
the I think it was the SantaSusanna, Santa Susanna Pass, whatever that
thing is called, and you wouldhave to drive in a pass like the
Panga Tobanga Canyon to get to SEEIValley. Oh, like driving up the
Big Bear. Yeah, exactly, that's exactly right. And then they put
that big ass Ronald Reagan Freeway inthere, and now you can get there
in a heartbeat. What was thatput in Ah, you know, I
know they did chips on that freewaywhen it was when it was just opening.

(04:50):
I'm going to say that that freeway, I'm gonna guess here and say
that that freeway open probably in thelate sevent Yeah, I would say nineteen
seventy nine to nineteen eighty. Iwould have to guess it. Said the
I just looked at A one eighteenlink to see me valley was completed in
nineteen seventy five, seventy five, okay, but I didn't open in seventy

(05:12):
five. They had a lot ofproblems with that. Yeah, and I
don't remember what the problem was,but that freeway was closed for ever ever.
It had been given the green lightapparently in nineteen sixty four. Yeah,
twenty three of Route twenty three andRoute one eighteen got the green light
from the Highway Commission in sixty four, but only about seven miles of twenty
three had been completed by nineteen seventyone. And then, of course what

(05:34):
eighteen was open in seventy five?Right, So the one eighteen was totally
open in nineteen seventy five, itsays it was completed. Yeah, I'll
take your word for that. Thenwhat year? What year was Chips?
Then the the show Chips, Let'sSee Chips seventy eight TV show, Let's
See Chips TV show nineteen seventy seven, And that freeway was not open in

(05:59):
seventy seven, So somebody's lying toyou about that freeway. That freeway may
have been completed, but it didn'topen for a long time, and that's
why they did the filming. Ha lot of the stuff, almost all
of it. And I remember watchingChips. It was one of my favorite
shows growing up. And the secondepisode, I think we've talked about this
on the air before, but thesecond episode of Chips, they had the
A story of you know, peoplespeeding and shooting in cars whatever. But

(06:21):
the B story on Chips and thesecond episode was somebody stealing trees and plants
along the shoulder. I'm like,God, almighty, what this is gonna
be a thin series if that's theB story in episode two, somebody's stealing
plants along that song the shoulder, the freeway. It's not gonna last long.

(06:42):
Better enjoyed Chips, Well it's here, but that was one of the
great shows of all time. Ienjoyed that Chips California Highway Patrol, and
I bet I'll bet you anything itdid the same thing that Love Boat did
for the Highway Patrol, where alot of people. I bet a lot
of people joined the Highway Patrol afterthey saw Chips. I bet you a

(07:05):
million dollars. You're listening to TimConway Junior on demand from KFI AM six
forty somebody sent me this from aguy who worked on Caltrans. He said
he worked on the one eighteen freeway. He said before the freeway was built,
it went through from the Semi Valleyfrom Simi Valley to Los Angeles Avenue,
then crossed the San Fernando Valley toSanta Susana Pass, and then the

(07:29):
eastern segment used Devonshire Street through theSan Fernando Valley, then cut through San
Fernando along Brand and McClay Streets beforejoining Foothill Boulevard, and then he said,
during the nineteen thirty two Olympics,it hosted part of the road cycling
event. I didn't know that inthe SR one eighteen. The freeway began

(07:50):
construction nineteen sixty eight. Maybe you'reon it right now. You'll enjoy this.
The last section was opened in nineteenseventy nine. Nailed it. The
segment of freeway between Balbo and Tampawas one of the last freeway segments to
be built in the Los Angeles areaas a result in Northridge quake in January
of nineteen ninety four. I thinka lot of people remember them. The

(08:11):
section of the highway between one ofthe four or five and the two ten
was closed for a month. Well. Damage was repaired to the overpasses.
The Porter Ranch Drive interchange was relativelynew before it's constructed. The interchange connected
a closed Winetka and a park andride lot. For you fans of parking

(08:35):
ride lots there you go, allright, thing don't so? That freeway
was hotter than hell when I wasgrowing up. There's a new way to
get out of See Me Valley. And the people in See Me Valley didn't
like it at all because they knewthat once that freeway open, more people,
I mean a lot more people,a lot more crime has it happened
out there. It's like the twoten went in. It finally extended right

(08:56):
there. It was San Dimas orwhatever it is, a Laverne area.
It used to end right there andturn it on the foot of boulevard,
and then they extended it out.I want to say it was right around
two thousand one ors I remember that, yeah, And it extended all the
way to the fifteen from that pointand it just it took about we had
we had about two three good yearsthere where now that the people had realized
it and started using it where itwas just awesome, and then it's just

(09:20):
ridiculous. Yeah. I remember whenthat opened and it was an alternate to
the ten freeway because the ten Freewaybetween the seventy one or fifty seven all
the way out to the fifteen wasalways a nightmare, rudeal always, you
know, to Ontario Airport, thewhole Ontario run out there. It was
horrible. Yeah. And then whenthey opened that up, man, you
could take either one. It wasgreat. Yep. Now you get that,

(09:41):
and even the sixty there's three waysyou know, east west right there
in that area. Yeah, youknow, in nineteen I think it was
nineteen forty five, nineteen fifty foursomewhere around there where they had a master
plan for San Diego and for LosAngeles. San Diego built ninety eight percent
of their free ways that were designedin I think it was nineteen fifty four,

(10:03):
ninety eight percent of their freeways LAfifty seven percent, fifty seven percent.
And they've never had to act together. No, we never have.
No. Even grandparents will say,no, it sucked, you know a
long time ago. But the biggestglaring mistake was made where they didn't connect
the seven ten to the two tenor the one thirty four. Oh right,

(10:24):
If that seven ten would have connectedthere, man, it would have
been easy sailing around Los Angeles. But that's seven ten. It comes to
a closed right there in the tenfreeway, and now you get hosed.
Yep, it's never going to bebuilt. They had talked about a tunnel
being built there for a long time. That's not going to happen. They're
now selling those homes. The caltransbought right and it's it's never going to

(10:46):
happen. So if you live inLa get used to being stuck in a
car. And he used to listento kffive. Hey, yeah, we'll
be with you the whole time.I would be with you for forever.
Burbank Airport is going to get ahuge, major uplift here, a brand
new terminal being designed and being builtin Burbank, California. That's a big,

(11:07):
major local story. The faa ISannounced an eight point two million dollar
grant to the Hollywood Burbank Airport. That money will be used for the third
phase of construction for a new terminal. That phase includes construction of the foundation
and waterproofing. Are terminal is scheduleto take at a waterproof that sucker and
waterproofing. Wow, that's great. The new terminal is scheduled to open by

(11:30):
the end of twenty twenty six.Good luck, good luck, because they
haven't started yet and it takes goodtake some time. I'd say twenty twenty
nine ish, I would I wouldsay probably three years delay. But man,
it's gonna be spectacular once that opensup. That will be really great.

(11:50):
And if you live in Burbank,I think your property value is going
to go up because of how beautifulthat airport's going to be. And look,
whatever your politics are, if AdamSchiff, who's from Burbank, if
he becomes a Senator, So let'ssay you're a Republican and you can't stand
the Democrats. Okay, I getthat. But if Adam Shift becomes the

(12:13):
Senator, he lives in Burbank,so a lot more money is coming to
Burbank and is coming to that airport. So you know, don't die,
you know, cry at night ifyour guy Garvey doesn't get there. Okay,
okay, And we just said thestory about how that there's a there's
gonna be improvements to Burbank with themgetting money in a new terminal for them.

(12:35):
Yeah, that's right. A lotof a lot of stuff happening for
Burbank, California, as I alwayscalled the Beverly Hills of the valley,
being going with it. All right, we're live, We are live here
on KFI. I'll be here livetomorrow as well. I don't know about
the other programs, but Croze andI are coming in because we're dedicated to
this audience. I can't speak forthe other hosts of this station. I

(13:00):
can just tell you that I'm dedicatedand kroser is mos gonna be live,
yes, okay, all right, then he's uh, he's great. Alright,
he's great. He's also dedicated tothe station. Yeah, that's right.
I can't speak of the other people. I don't know if they're lazier
or not, but I know thatKrozier and I are coming in. We
are going to be live tomorrow.Mo Kelly's going to be live tomorrow as

(13:20):
well. So from four o'clock onclock on live programming, business as usual.
That's right. You're listening to TimConway Junior on demand from kf I
Am six forty. We've got newsfor you here. If you're a big
pizza lover, very popular chain isthe latest to face money problems in the

(13:41):
face of rising costs and falling customernumbers, two things you can't deal with
in business. Mod Pizza. Ilove Mod Pizza. They're preparing for bankruptcy
as early as next week. Nogood, No good. Have one that's
shut down in that little shopping centerthat right by baseline in the two ten

(14:03):
of their little s turn there thattwo ten, that's it right there with
that exsit is that baseline and thatlittle shopping center is a whole food's in
there. They's got that one ofthose doghouse things. Uh, they shut
down about two months ago? Isthat right? Were you big fans?
Close up? Yeah? We wentthere all the week. Stuff there all
the time. I love Mod Pizza. Was fantastic. Now I gotta go
to Blaze or what are the otherones out there that you know where you

(14:24):
go when they make your own pizza. Blaze is another one. That's another
good one. That's the only oneI can think of, is Blaze?
All right? Alex Michael, Center'swith us? Alex? How you bob
ding dong with you? Happy forbuddy, Happy forth to you. Busy
busy week in politics, I knowyou cover politics. I can't believe how

(14:46):
many people in the White House presspool either lied or dropped the ball over
the last two years. You thinkit's their fault. I think they didn't
report it properly, Yes, Ido. Yeah, You don't think they
shared them some blame? No,I do. I think that there's there's

(15:07):
a lot of blame to go around. Uh. And I think the White
House, it appears, worked reallyhard to try to cover some of this
stuff up. I mean it wassomething though. You know, in our
limited experiences of the President coming hereto southern California, he didn't answer a
single question, hasn't answered a singlequestion from any local reporter during any of
his trips here, didn't travel witha local press pool, didn't do any

(15:33):
press conferences, didn't do any localinterviews, didn't do anything that you know,
customarily would be part of the opportunity. We've always been kept very far
away from him, you know, makes it difficult to even shout out a
question. Uh. And you know, seeing him in person, he had
looked, you know, significantly olderevery time, you know, the more

(15:58):
this has gone on on, especiallythe last two times I saw him in
person, he looked significantly older. What is your prediction for what happens,
Because everybody's talking about the next weekor two he might step aside and Kamala
Harris might be the new nominee. That seems you know, I think it's
probably like around fifty to fifty rightnow in terms of whether that happens or

(16:22):
that doesn't happen. Wrong, itseems like a lot a lot of that
fifty fifty is an easy thing. That's because you both I've said, right,
I think, you know, itseems like there is a bit of
a waiting game right now to seewhat the swing state polls say, see
how he does during this interview withGeorge Stephanopolis on Friday, to see how

(16:42):
he does during a press conference nextweek, and if he can kind of
get his footing and things aren't toobad in terms of the polls, he'd
like to stick it out. Imean, the guy wants to be president.
He's wanted to be president since hewas eight years old. He's eighty
one. Everybody is forever, andso his preference would be to stay.
But we'll see how he does. You know, it's interesting that in you

(17:06):
know, since this happened on Thursday, there hasn't been a press conference,
there hasn't been any interviews. Therehasn't been an opportunity for him to get
out in front of the camera andactually show people that he can speak in
an unscripted way and answer questions. And usually if you were trying to say
that this was just a bad nightand just a cold, you would put

(17:26):
him out there to showcase his abilityto do all of that. And the
fact that they haven't done it makesyou wonder can he do it right?
And they're gonna have difficulty if somebodyelse comes in and is the nominee that's
not Kamala Harris. They're going tohave trouble transferring the money that's raised to
somebody else. And I heard thatthey're gonna have to write a lot of
checks back to people and they don'twant to do that. I think that's

(17:51):
part of it, although you know, I think there are some ways around
that. You know, we haven'treally tested that law before. But yeah,
it's just also the you know thepractical reality of what it would mean
in a party where you know, black women are such a strong, strong
part of the coalition to bypass youknow, the first black woman vice president

(18:14):
and basically go out of your wayto try to open it up. And
some people would see it as takingit away from her, and that's it.
That's why they see it that waybecause and it's also complicated for Joe
Biden to you know, picking avice president. The only real job of

(18:36):
a vice president is to take overif there's an emergency for the president.
That's the job. He put herin, that job. She spent years
in that job, being ready totake over for the president. And if
he says yes, I mean pickwhatever, or pick somebody else, he
would be admitting that he made abad pick. Yeah. It's a mess,
absolute mess. It's a mess.But I know that you're very close

(18:59):
with the Harris Is, with Kamalaand her husband. Man, if she
gets in there, you're gonna leaveChannel eleven and move right into the White
House. Huh. I think that'sa bit of an overstatement to say very
close. It's like many people inCalifornia have covered her for years. I
don't think they're giving me like aLincoln bedroom spot or something like that.

(19:22):
Okay, I doubt that that's happening, but it would be an interesting moment
for California if she becomes the nominee, or if it or you know,
the other California that people are talkingabout becomes the nominee as well. Our
governor who went to Washington today togo to the White House to showcase his
support for that. Well, lookeither way, I mean, whether it's

(19:42):
Kamala Harris, whether it's Governor Newsom, and on the Senate side, it's
probably gonna be Adam shiff there aregonna be a lot of high profile,
high level people moving in to verypowerful positions in Washington that can maybe help
this state out. That's the hope, because God knows, we need as

(20:03):
much help as we can get. That's right, That's exactly right. We
need a lot of help. Itwould be we need a lot of help.
What's on the big show? Oryou're not doing it tonight? Are
you doing it on Friday? Right? Our big shows? On Friday,
we have an interview with Kara Swisher, who is one of the best known
tech journalists in the country. Supersuper Connected. Has interviewed Elon Musk and
Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs and BillGates and all these guys, and it's

(20:26):
kind of the go to person onthat and she's talking about all these people.
She wrote this very juicy book calledburn Book, where she gets very
real about all these people and aboutthe future of tech. And she's a
fascinating guest. She hosts like twoof the most popular podcasts in the country
too. She's really really interesting. So I'll check it out. Our Swisher

(20:47):
on Friday night, Buddy, havea great fourth I don't know if you're
going to spend it with your familyor not, but tell your mom and
dad. I'm in love with themand I wish them the best holiday.
Okay, they are in love withyou as well before Okay, all right,
see it right there? He goes, Yeah, I like that.
That guy's family. He's got agreat dad and he's got a great mom.
Kid was raised properly. That AlexMichaelson. He lies about his age,

(21:11):
he said, and tells everybody's whatis he twenty nine? Thirty nine
old? Does he say he isthirty nine? Yeah, he's fifty eight.
But I'm not gonna bust his balls. No, of course you would.
Why would I do that? You'relistening to Tim Conway Junior on de
Mayo from KFI AM six forty KangDeLong with you. We'll be here tomorrow

(21:33):
live for your entertainment. So ifyou're on your way to a Fourth of
July celebration, we will be withyou starting at four o'clock. Crozier and
I will be buzzing in here.I believe Angel will be here as well.
Angel is gonna be on working Tomorrow'sthat Ryan, you know it?
And so yeah, so is MichaeO'Brien. He'll be lying around for us.

(21:55):
Man, we are all losers. We can't get any holidays off.
That's great. And he's gonna belive too. And I believe George Norrie,
George Roy hasn't taken a day offin ten years, so I'm sure
he'll be live as well. AllRight, We've got severe turbulence, man,
oh man, this is happening allthe time. I don't know if
it's global warming, global cooling,I don't know. I don't know what's
going on. But a lot ofturbulence, A lot of these news stories

(22:18):
coming out all the time. Terrifyingturbulence, rocking unpacked international flight injuring at
least thirty people. Video showing apassenger apparently stuck in the ceiling of the
aircraft. Yeah, right through theceiling and into the luggage wrack, his
feet dangling over the aisle. It'sunclear how he got there. Yeah,
I know how he got there. He didn't have a seat belt on.

(22:40):
He was launched into it. Tosay, what are the options of how
he could have gotten up there?Yeah, that's he does not bring a
ladder with him. He got thrownin there. You see the badly damaged
blood staint Kevin. A seat destroyedand holes were passengers slammed into the ceiling.
Oh my god, you got tokeep that seat belt on when you
fly nowadays, all the time, medics seen carrying one person off the plane

(23:02):
on a stretcher. The Air Europeaflight from Spain to Iuguoa with at least
three hundred and twenty five passengers onboard, hitting turbulence over the Atlantic Ocean
early this morning, making an emergencylanding in Brazil. Right, this man's
saying, the plane suddenly destabilized andwent into a dive. Oh myID god,
you imagine being on that plane, three hundred people screaming nope, you

(23:23):
think you're gonna die, and oneidiot decides to sleep in the luggage rack
or what however you got there. You've been in like like major like turbulence
while you're planing before, and Ialways I get more irritated with the people
who way overreact to like a littlebump or something like, oh yeah,
I'm with you freaking out. Waslike, stop it. You're not helping.

(23:45):
If you hate turbulence, don't flyto Vegas in the summer. When
you go over those mountains. Gotalmighty. It is a roller coaster all
the way there. But yeah, the people screaming are irritape the hell out
of me. You don't look ifyou're gonna go, go with some dignity,
you know, shut up and die. Yeah, just shut the hell
up and suffer and slamming the mountainwith all of us. You're not gonna

(24:07):
help by screaming. Go with somedignity. You know, you're embarrassing yourself.
Go with grace. Yeah, thelast thing on earth you shouldn't do
is embarrass yourself. You're just screamlike a child, sending passengers without seatbelts
on flying. Oh that's horrible, that is horrible. All right, Spirit

(24:30):
Airlines is gonna drop some of theirjunk fies. People got tired of that
buying a ticket on spared airlines andthen you'd have to pay to bring anything
on board with you. A guybrought his sunglasses with them and they charge
him with sunglass tax I think orsunglass fee, but they charge for everything
on it. When Darrel Plunkett hadto change his Spirit flight from Fort Lauderdale

(24:51):
to Atlanta, he was worried theultra low cost airline would hit him with
a fee. Yeah, they probablydid. They were flexible. Actually got
a credit back. I mean,I'll give them the kudos on net.
But Spirit, known for its alacarte or pay for everything approach to travel,
is this thing. I never heardthat term before, but Spirit known
for its ala carte, ala carte, God almighty break down, and nobody

(25:14):
says anything to him. You're like, but put Dave on it. Well,
but Dave says, ali carde,we should put him on it.
I want to hear that one moretime before I go to bed tonight.
Ala carte ala carte. And he'snever been to a Mexican restaurant. He's
never been to, you know, had any kind of Spanish food in his
life? Right, Ala carte orpay for everything approach to travel just should

(25:37):
have gone with the second ala carte. Yeah, let's not use that term.
Dave pay for everything approach to travel. There you go, just dropped
its changed in cancel fees while alsoupping the weight for checked bags to the
industry standard fifty pounds as it looksto win backflyers. We've been evaluating this
for quite some time, so it'snot something that we've just decided to do

(25:57):
overnight mine and quite frankly, it'ssomething that our customers want. Matt Klein
is Spirit's chief commercial officer. Goodfor Matt. What they've been invaluating.
What is there to evaluate? Peopledon't like to spend money? Is that
the evaluation and people and we foundout that customers want this. Yeah,
customers want to save money. It'sweird as a head scratcher for all of

(26:18):
us. The mac Klein is Spirit'schief commercial officer. Good for Matt.
What we've seen over time is lesspeople are actually flying on Spirit. That's
what you want is a guy thatsounds like a slick salesman running your company.
What we've seen over time is lesspeople are actually flying, Like,
hey, take one step forward, your body naturally follow This knife is so
thin it'll slice and dice the tomato. One tomato last y'all summer, Come

(26:41):
on Spirit Airlines. Enjoy yourself. So we believe the changes we're making.
It's not just about the individual who'salready flying on our aircraft. It's about
attracting new customers. The move comesas bigger airlines are fighting for Spirits cost
conscious flyers. It's competitor, Frontierdropped most change and cancel fees while its
focus to bundled services. Those changeand cancel fees generated one hundred and fifty

(27:04):
million dollars for Spirit last year. The client is betting dropping them now will
help put the airline on a pathto profitability. Yeah. So if you
love the ala carte, it's overat Spirit. Everything we're looking to do
right now is to make the guestexperience more seamless and give flexibility to our
