(00:00):
It's KFI Am six and you're listeningto The Conway Show on demand on the
iHeartRadio app. It's the Conway Show, all right, ding dong. It
sounds a little different because we're inair mix right now. John Colevel came
back from a three week vacation inEurope, and I don't know what he's

(00:21):
got, but I don't want it, and so I don't mind taking the
heat on the air over that. But I can't get sick because we're doing
a huge remote on Thursday in HuntingtonBeach and Steve Gregory joins us, how
you bub? What's up buddy? So we're doing this big remote. You're
gonna come down, I'm hoping to. Yeah. All right, let me
tell you about it. Are youinterested? Yeah? Because in the deeps

(00:44):
we talked about this last week.Okay, it's at BJS Bjy's right,
Bjay's Restaurant and brew House. It'sgot two hundred Main Street there in Huntington
Beach the day after tomorrow already. Can you believe that? God? It
just seemed like, yes, we'retalking about it. Yeah, well we're
talking about again. Yeah, Soyou have five dollar Bjay's handcrafted Signature Beers

(01:07):
six dollars, brew House Margarita sevendollars Deep Dish mini pizzas, and we'll
be down there from four to sevenpm on Thursday. It should be up
blast, all right. So SteveGregory joins us. And one of the
reasons why I'm in here and notin there in the big studio is I
feel bad. You know, Johnwas gone for three weeks. He came

(01:27):
back with something he's on medication for. He's obviously not feeling well and he
needs to come to work. ButI also need to not get COVID or
whatever's going around. Everybody's got COVID. I don't know, if you saw
the La Times, there's more COVIDout now than there was last year.
Well, yeah, because the strainthat's going around right now is highly contagious,

(01:49):
right, not nearly as bad it'sthe original strain. I would rather
take a highly dangerous and very fewcontains agent aspects. I'd rather have whoever
gets it gets killed, but onlylike nine people get it. But you
know what's bad about about that isthat we got so complacent after the pandemic

(02:12):
was officially ruled done, and wewere like, oh, thank god,
that's over with. Everyone took theirmasks. Sure, we went around doing
everything normally again, and then allof a sudden, the health Department's like,
well, now it's not gone,it's not eradicated, it's still here.
Be careful. You got to still, you know, wipe your hands,
wash your hands, do all thatstuff too. And PEP were like,
yeah, yeah, whatever, we'llgo to restaurants, blah blah blah.
And then before you know it,it's starting to kind of simmer up

(02:34):
from behind. And now it's like, you say, now it's taken over
again because we were being too complacent. Do you know that every single person
that got it, every single person, without exception, can all be traced
back to one tiny cell, thefirst cell that was either you know,
creating a lab or a wet market, wherever it is. Whatever your politics
are, whatever your belief is,I don't care, but everything can be

(02:58):
traced back to one set well ofthe hundreds of billions of quadrillion, you
know, infections can all be tracedback to one tiny self. And that's
spooky, that's so spooky. Andthen here's the second thing. Then we'll
talk about your huge topic here today. But I don't know about you,
but there are some people I knowthat missed the pandemic. You know,

(03:22):
they like staying at home. Theysort of, you know, preferred putting
a mask on when they go out. They liked getting they were addicted to
inoculations. We're all part of it. They miss Barbara Ferrara's you know,
daily comments. There are people thatmiss that, Steve, I know you're
laughing at me. You tell youwho they are, I'll show you work

(03:43):
here. But there's there are peoplethat miss that. Now, if you
are one of those people that missit, Whole Foods is still doing it.
Whole Foods you walk in still socialdistancing voluntarily, not by the stores,
order a lot of mass, alot of masks going on, and
people are very careful about communicating withone another. But they still have their

(04:05):
open salad bar and hot food bar. That's right. I enjoyed that they
make great pizza over there too.I've never had the pizza, but I
love the salad bar and the cookiebar. Okay, please, Steve,
please stop with me. You're asalad guy, all right, Let's get
into God. Nobody's buying that, all right, carefully? Wow, are

(04:30):
you kidding? Me right now, you're worse than co belt go belt.
Has that a breed in your mouth? Yeah, you look like you have
missed a breed in a few weeks. Really, all right? The salad
kings here, we're out of time. Well can we come back? Could
you stay or do you have asalad to knock off? Whatever? All

(04:53):
right? Are you getting a saladduring the break? I'm not getting a
salad during the break? Okay, let's take a quick break here. What
time is I don't even have aclock here? It's four ten or ten?
Oh, we got two minutes. You might run this down two minutes.
No, no, no, butlet's set this up. So you
got a call from Mark Boss Robinbird Lucci. Yeah. She stopped me
in the hallway one day and shesaid, hey, did you hear the
story about this missing teenage girl? And I said, I know. It

(05:14):
wasn't on my radar because I wasworking on other stuff. She goes,
well, I think it's interesting. You know, straight a student, she
rades her bike, supposed to goto her relative's house, and all of
a sudden she's disappeared. She didn'tmake it to the house, and you
know everyone's looking for and she said, I just wonder if you can take
a look at it, And Isaid, yeah, I'll look into it
and see what's going on. SoI started to know what she'd get word
of it. You know, itwas I was in the news because by
then the girl's mother had been talkingto the media, and then they showed

(05:38):
up and neighbors and friends were puttingup posters and doing search parties and all
over there in Monterey Park. SoI called some people, and I was
just trying to find out more informationon it. And as I looked into
it and started getting more intel,it's like something doesn't add up here.
Oh, something's not adding up.This is really bizarre. I mean,
it's like she just disappeared out ofthin and she was gone for a week.

(06:01):
Yeah, she reported missing on thesixteenth, and then on the twenty
third, she miraculously appeared in frontof ABC seven studios. Okay, that's
the good setup. When we comeback, there's a twist that happened today,
a twist in that story that happenedtoday that will shock you to your
salad bar. All right, we'relive on KFI. Steve Gregory joins us,

(06:24):
I please, you're listening to TimConway Junior on demand from KFI AM
six forty. Steve Gregory joins uswith this big story and don't forget On
Thursday, the day after tomorrow,we will be in Huntington Beach at Bjay's
Restaurant Brewhouse, two hundred Main Street. Come on by. Steve will be
there as well. You're gonna besigning autographs. I heard. She's no,

(06:46):
no, okay, it's not myscene. He refuses to sign.
No scene. All right. Sothis young lady, how old is she?
Fourteen? Fifteen? Fifteen? Okay? She gets on her bike on
the sixteenth and takes off and shewas seen on home surveillance fit. Her
father said that she was headed toa relative's house and she never showed up.

(07:06):
So when I started taking a lookat the story, I started to
dig a little deeper on it.Well. Come to find out, sources
that were close to this case toldme that there was a custody battle going
on behind the scenes, and onthe day before she was reported missing,
the father was ordered to turn overthe daughter to the mother. The mother
was granted full custody, and sothat was before it all came out.

(07:30):
Before the mother had come out andsaid it publicly. We knew this already
and we chose to sort of stayback from it because we didn't want to
get in the middle of a custodybattle if that's what the story was.
So we wanted to wait and seewhat the police department investigators were telling us.
And then little by little more informationstarted to come out that didn't add

(07:51):
up well. Then when the girlappeared in front of the ABC seven studios
on the twenty third, she wasjust kind of walking there and then the
Glendielle police showed up. It seemedvery suspicious. A short time later,
the father has a press conference withhis attorney, and you and I watched
that press confidence together here and yousaid, there's more to the store.

(08:13):
Yeah, there's more to the story, because we had already known by then
what was going on. But yousaid they were going to arrest that man.
I said, he's looking at possiblygetting arrested to charged at least,
right, So what had been toldto me is that if there was any
evidence that the father was complicit inher disappearance, and he was looking at
some trouble. But what had happenedis it was complicated because you know,
these custody battles are those are civil, they're not criminal. So it's hard

(08:39):
to get in the middle of alot of that kind of stuff. So
that's why police had to do theirdue diligence and look into everything that was
going on and then come to findout. Sure enough, now the DA's
office file charges, and they arefiling get this, one count of felony
child stealing in concealment. Wow,and one misdemeanor count a false report of
an emergency. Is that right?Yeah? Are both felonies. No,

(09:03):
that one is misdemeanor. That falsereporting is a misdemeanor. But felony child
stealing in concealment. Furthermore, theysay that the Jeffrey Chowd, the father,
induced the minor, basically talked thedaughter into going along with his plan.
Oh I see, okay, allright, So what is he looking
at if he's convicted on all chargesis file he's looking at five years in

(09:24):
prison. Oh my god, that'sbig. That is big. And you
know what, he ran into abuzz saw because gas Gohn wants to look
tough on crime before November five, and hence the charges. Well, yeah,
but charges are one thing guilty, please another or plea deals another.
You know, it just depends onwhat's going to happen. Do you have
a record that we don't know yet. But this is very interesting, and

(09:48):
I think what really pisses a lotof people off about this is that when
you file a false police report, especially something like this on a missing child,
and you're taking resources away. There'sa lot of cops. Yeah,
yeah, and when it comes toa child, they're doing everything in their
power to find that child. Sure, so when you start kids start diverting
resources, valuable resources on a goosechase like this, knowing all along that

(10:13):
the father, according to the DA'soffice, the father put the girl up
to this and tucked her away somewhere. Where was she We don't know whether
it was a friend or a relative. That'll all come out, and he
knew, but he evidently, wellallegedly, well according to the DA's office,
he was complicit in that and hebasically set it up. So we're
not sure whether it was a friendof his or a relative another relative.

(10:33):
Okay, but he's being arraigned aswe speak. Okay, this let's back
up a little here. You andI watched that press conference where the dad
was overwhelmed with happiness when he foundhis daughter. That was an acting job.
That was all fair it with apparent. So yeah, because if you
remember we talked off air, Isaid, I thought I found it suspicious

(10:56):
at the time that the father onlyspoke like eight to ten words a lot.
The attorney did all the talking.Oh that's immediately a red flag for
me. But buddy, you know, see, that's why you're good at
what you do, because you youknow, somebody gives you a piece of
paper and you go, Okay, that's a piece of paper, now what
and then you go further into whathappened where it happened. You're very good

(11:20):
at that. Buddy. Oh,that's very kind of you. But that's
my job, I know. Butthere are people who are in that business
that don't do that well, youknow. And that's why I felt a
lot of them. Well when wewere watching that press conference, I felt
that for my colleagues, because they'reall standing there asking him questions, the
father. They're asking him very goodquestions, very valid questions, and he
and he wasn't answering them, andthe attorney kept jumping in. And when

(11:41):
the attorney kept jumping in and answeringthose very simple basic questions. I knew
something was up. Sadly, thereporters didn't know what I knew at the
time, which is fine because sometimesit's the role is reversed. But I
found it kind of frustrating that theywere asking all the right questions of the
father, but he wasn't answering them, and the attorney kept interfering and intervening.
So that's a wild story, youknow, that's crazy, it is,

(12:05):
and it really boils down to,according to everyone that's been talking to
me about it, is this justwas a custody battle gone bad. And
you know, she was supposed toreport to the mother's house, so the
mother wasn't in on this at all, it would appear not, and mother
was completely clueless on this in termsof what. So she's got to be
really pissed. Yeah, I wouldthink so. And if there was ever
a little slight chance that he mayhave had supervised visits or anything down the

(12:28):
line, that probably that's out thewindow now. Yeah. But also you
know, when you have a missingchild, your life stops. You don't
go to work, you don't eat, you don't sleep, you are concentrating
on getting that child back. Youmight sleep an hour a night just because
you passed out in a chair, and then you wake up and you're right
back at it, and the familyand friends help you out. The community

(12:50):
gets together. And when the communitieslied to like that, it the next
kid that is missing. They think, Okay, is this another con job
the boy who cried wolfson, It'sthat's true. That's horrible. There should
be an extra penalty for that whenyou do it with kids, just for
that reason. Yeah, you knowwhat, when and then when you convince
and coerce a kid into doing somethinglike that, you know, or talk

(13:11):
them into it, of course they'regonna you know, they're in that frame
of mind. And I don't knowthe relationship between the girl and the mom,
but I just known that, youknow, for the father to talk
her into going along with the planis kind of kind of bad too.
If the mom had any regrets aboutdivorcing that guy, those are gone.
Yeah, that's interesting to bring thatup, because now it makes you wonder,

(13:31):
you know, what, what causedthe rift in the first place.
Maybe him, it's possible, butyou know what, when at the end
of a breakup, I know you'vebeen broken up with a bunch of times.
Geez, what the hell is goingon here? Sorry, buddy,
we've all gone Kalid's and dating,we've all gone through it. But you've
broken up with girls too. Sure, Okay. Now, when you break

(13:54):
up with a girl and she saysto you, you know what, Steve,
I really enjoyed our time together.I hope you find something you know
beautiful in your life and keep mein mind. Maybe we can come become
friends. Then you're thinking, oh, did I pass up on the wrong
girl. She seems to take thisnews pretty well. Maybe this was the

(14:16):
girl for me. Conversely, ifyou break up with a girl and she
keys your car and flattens your tires, you're like, ah, made the
right decision, right call there?Yeah? Well, the thing is I
don't really know because it's all usuallydone with an intermediary. Usually an attorney
does it for me. But Iwill tell you the handful of exes I
do have are all still friends ofmine. Is that right? How many?

(14:39):
I'm not going to tell you howmany. I'm just gonna say a
handful of the exes that I thatI have in my life, they are
all still friends of mine. Ididn't know that. I'm friends with none.
No, they did it all andyou know, or usually boiled down
to my job. They just theydidn't like the fact that I was here
more than I was there. Ohthat's true. Yeah, your work her
as Yeah. So yeah. Werethey also into salads? They were all

(15:01):
much better shape than meat, allof them. All right, buddy,
you're a giant stud. Thanks.I'm glad you're alive. Yeah, me
too. All right. Later you'relistening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from
KFI AM six forty. We've gotmore problems in Incino, California. In
Sino. There's a lot of peoplebreaking into a lot of homes in Encino.

(15:24):
For people who don't know where thatis, it's in the San Fernando
Valley where the four five and theone oh one meet. Just go about
a mile, well not even amile, it's right there for the four
to five and one oh one meet. I think the line is literally a
couple hundred feet west of them, and that goes all the way to Tarzana.

(15:45):
A lot of beautiful homes and Encino. A lot of the celebrities living
in Sino in the hills, veryexpensive homes, and then the flats of
Encino are also very nice. It'sa nice address to have. You know,
when you say you living in Sino, people are like, oh,
that guy's got a couple of bucks. Well, they're coming after your couple
of bucks. And a lot ofbreak ins, a lot of you know,

(16:07):
people wandering in because they know youhave more stuff than they do and
they want your stuff that you workfor. Bill Police point out that here
in the West Valley burglaries are downnearly twenty percent, but the LAPD has
heard the concerns from those residents andEncino and in Woodley Hills about the rash
of recent burglaries. This month,it happened again, another break in at

(16:30):
a San Fernando Valley home, thisone in Encino last night, and Sino
gets hit again. The Myers tellus this is the third time their home
has been broken into. I alwaysbelieve if somebody's making the market for stolen
goods, there'll always be people whowill steal. That's right, that's exactly
right. If there's a market forpeople to offload the stuff they stole,

(16:52):
it's going to continue. You know. William Goldman, who is the writer
of butchcasting Syndance Kid. They wereshooting that movie back in the I don't
know, early sixties or mid sixties. And while they were on the set,
I think they were, you know, New Mexico, shooting in New
Mexico and that was doubling for Bolivia. And a woman came up to William

(17:15):
Goldman and said, I don't knowwhy you're doing a movie about crime.
I you know, you shouldn't beglorifying crime and the and willieven Goldman had
a great line. He said,if crime didn't pay, it wouldn't exist.
It does pay, it does, and you can get caught and go

(17:40):
to jail for it. But it'sa really quick way to make a lot
of money. You know, youcan walk in. There was a house
that was burglarized and they stole seventythousand dollars in cash. I think it
was last night, seventy thousand dollarsin cash. Get how long you would
take you to work at a twentydollars an hour job to make seventy thousand
dollars in take home cash, Probablythree or four years. This guy did

(18:03):
it in three or four minutes. So it does pay. Crime does pay,
And Unfortunately a lot of people knowthat, and I don't know what
the what anyone's doing to find outwe're stolen the goods are They look for
designer goods so they can sell andsomebody can sell it online. So to
me, it's always about the secondarymarket. Police detectives are still looking for

(18:26):
the suspects. Surveillance video from oneof the breakings shows a trio of suspects
making the way into the property thenbreaking in. According to LAPD data,
there have been nine burglaries in theWest Valley this month. What in west
in the West Valley? There havebeen nine burglaries in the West Valley this
month. Okay, that's nine thatthe cops know about. How many times

(18:48):
does the guy come home he's beenrobbed, he's sort of a little shady,
Maybe he's got guns in the houseor I don't know, cocaine or
something he doesn't want to report tothe cops. You can double that number.
I'll bet it's closer to eighteen totwenty, maybe even more. But
nine is still a lot. It'sa lot of homes broken into bream Woodland
Hills and six in Encino. Overall, burglaries in West Valley are down almost

(19:14):
eighteen percent this year. Okay, let's stop with the overall burglaries are down
by whatever percent. Nobody believes that, especially if you live in Encino.
Why do they keep bringing that statup. Nobody's comfortable with it, Nobody
believes it. Why do they keepsaying that to make us feel better.
We don't feel better. We feellike we're the next victim. I always

(19:38):
feel that way. LAPD Captain BrianWendling says there's been a blipping burglars in
Encino that it hasn't seen in thepast. He says residents can help by
reporting strange behavior in their neighborhood. If you see somebody in your neighborhood that's
doing something unusual, such as comingout with pillowcases or bedsheets tied together over
their shoulders, that's something that youneed to report immediately. Kind of an

(20:02):
odd way to burglarise a house, have nine sheets all tied together. I
don't know what's going on with thatguy, And unfortunately that's not always been
the case. Still, residents tellus they are concerned that the rash of
burglaries here is sitting so close totheir homes and they're asking for more of
a police presence. Ah, maybemaybe I'll get it, who knows,
probably not. So we've had meetings, we tried to stay in contact with

(20:25):
each other. There's a whole textchain about this this morning. And yeah,
those text chains are okay, they'reprobably you know, it's a good
first step. I get that.We try to watch out for unusual activity
and report it. But that's notenough. And again the LAPD saying simply
that they are still investigating all ofthose burglaries to see if they're somehow connected.
And again, if you have anyinformation on the suspects, your urge

(20:47):
to contact the LAPD right away, putting live and receipt. I'm sid Garcia,
all right, sid Garcia, kickingan ass out there. Burglaries and
Encino people don't like that because peoplemade money and moved into that area to
stay away from this kind of crap. That's why they live in Encino.
One of the primary reasons to buyan expensive house an expensive neighborhood is to

(21:07):
stay away from that crap of peoplebreaking into your house. And if that
has been compromised, then there's noreason to pay high taxes, no reason
to you know, just move backto whatever city you were living in before.
So they got to take care ofthat problem in Incino. And a
lot of those people have money wherethey can hire private security as well,
and I'm surprised war don't do that. Well, it's Los Angeles getting wild

(21:32):
and that's what we do. Youknow, we're just a wild, wild
town wild. You're listening to TimConway Junior on demand from KFI AM six
forty. It is summer in LosAngeles. A lot of people come in
from out of town to experience La. You know, see Hollywood, go
to the beach, Disneyland, KnotsburyFarm, six Flags, go up to

(21:57):
the mountains, San Diego, SanFrancisco. There's a million things to do
in California. You can spend yourentire life driving around California and still not
even see two percent of it.It's a huge, beautiful state. But
we got to warn you if youare here from out of town, you're
driving a rental car and you foundkfive. KFI is probably the only station

(22:19):
that you get when you on yourpreset buttons on a rented car. Welcome,
Welcome to LA and California. Hopeyou have a good time. Hope
you have a safe time. Hopeyou get back safe, safe travels.
That being said, this is notyour typical beach town. We keep very

(22:40):
close track of the bacteria and thepollution in our beach. And you've got
to thank Heal the Bay for that. So big applause A big ada boyd,
and we love Heal the Bay.They're doing a great job of keeping
us alive by telling us which beachis not to go in, which ocean,

(23:03):
which part of the ocean, whatbay, Santa Monica Bay, Malibu,
you know, whatever it is.So let's talk about bacteria. Beach
bacteria bingo is the name of thissegment. This is a serious warning and
because of high bacteria levels, theLa County Department of Public Health is warning
visitors against swimming and certain beaches, several beaches in the area. In fact,

(23:26):
take a look here at this video. One of those beaches is Santa
Monica Pier, which is obviously avery popular beach for locals and tourists.
Yeah, Santa Monica Pier within acouple hundred feet either way, No good,
no good. However, because ofthe bacteria, it's not recommended to
swim at Santa Monica pier one hundredyards up and down the coast. Okay,

(23:48):
so lock that off, you know, take your tape measure or just
paste that off. One hundred yardseither way from the pier east or west,
north or south, whatever that isthere. I think Santa Monica Pier,
it's over in the east west. Then going on there one hundred yards
from the pier, I would Iwould play it safe and go one hundred

(24:08):
and five maybe one hundred and sixyards, just in case some of the
duties don't recognize the actual one hundredyard mark, then you won't get killed.
But also surfing and playing in oceanwaters at twelve beaches. The other
beaches with warnings include sections here wego, Here we Go. The other

(24:32):
beaches with warnings include sections of blastFloy's State Beach, Paradise Cove, Dan
Blacker County Beach, Puerco Beach, took pay It which was that Dan Blacker
County Beach? Dan Blacker? Neverheard of Dan Blacker County Beach. Could
have been Dan Blocker. I don'tknow who knows Dan Blacker. Is that

(24:53):
blac k Er Blacker, Dan Blacker, No idea where that is? Dan
Blacker County Beach, Puerco Beach topang A Canyon County Beach, Intercabrio Beach,
Escondido State Beach to pang A CanyonBeach, surf Writer Beach, and
Mother's Beach. The Department says thosebeaches have unsafe bacteria levels. Yeah,

(25:15):
very unsafe levels. What was thelast one? There? And Mother's Beach,
Mother's Beach all right, and Mother'sBeach all right? Ding dong with
Mother's Beach all right. Well, you know, just don't go in the
water and you might be able tosurvive. That's possible. I found Mother's

(25:36):
Beach. Oh wait, where's DanBlacker? Is it Blacker? It's Blocker
Blocker. Well maybe now with thepollution, it's Dan Blacker. Yeah,
it could be change. Hey,Angel, you've always a big supporter and
a cheerleader of the bleeps. CanI give you one? Yes? Please,
here we go. Surfright Beach andMother's Beach. Wait a minute,

(26:03):
didn't work out. Hold on,hold on, hold on Surfrighter Beach and
Mother's Beach. It's still not right. Man. I have lost it.
I've lost it. Man. Letme try one more time, one more
shot. Surf Wright Beach and MotherBeach the department close close, but I
don't like it. I don't likeit, Mother Beach. It's close.

(26:27):
Let me have one more shot,Angel, please? Alright, one more
shot. Surfrighter Beach and Mother Beacha little, a little bit closer.
All right, let's see surf frightBeach and Mother Beach. I'm losing it.
I'm losing it. Man. Angel, you're threatening to come down to

(26:48):
the remote on Thursday? Is thatcorrect? You know it? All right?
Heather, you're not going to makeit. You'll be in Vegas losing
your kids college. Sorry, thatsucks for her and us. Belly,
you'll be there. Steve Gregory's comingdown. I text Shannon and Gary and

(27:10):
Mondo. I think that's the correctorder, and haven't heard anything back whether
they're coming down or not. ButBelly, you remember how you know some
people. I'm not saying Gary andShannon, but if some people don't get
an official, authentic invite, theyget offended an official invite. Well,

(27:33):
I just want to make sure everyone'sinvited. Everyone in sales, if you
