Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's KFI AM six forty and you're listening to the
Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app k.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
If I AM six forty. It is the Conway Show.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
It's a little after six pm on Thursday, October tenth,
and we are in a bine on the five Freeway. Now,
we could choose to talk about something else right now,
because it is a massive audience, not only online, but
(00:32):
people in their cars listen at AM six forty k
if I AM six forty. But these people on the
five Freeway right now they need us. You are driving elsewhere,
maybe you're at home, maybe you're feeding the kids, you
(00:53):
can use us. But the people on the five need
us right now. They need more information. They want to
know that while they're sitting there, they were here sweating
our asses off trying to get them information about why
they're sitting there.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
So just bear with us.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
If you're not in this jam, Look, one day you're
going to be in a jam and you'll want the
same treatment as well, and we'll give it to you.
I remember we did Angel was like two or three
years ago. There was a horrible accident on the ninety
one freeway and we talked about it for about two
hours or so.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I remember the one woman she was in.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Traffic for six hours with their baby who had the flu,
and she ran out of and she ran out of
water and formula for the kid, and somebody said, you know,
where is she on the freeway and they were going
to try to get to her because they were like
within a mile of her, and they were going to
walk back and try to find her. I don't know
if they ever did or not, but that's the kind
(01:50):
of cool thing that happens in big cities. In Cristi's time,
I was reading some stories about Hurricane Milton and Helene
and how when there's a crisis, nobody asks what your
religion is, nobody asks what your political affiliation is. Everybody
it's all hands on deck. And I'm not comparing what
(02:11):
we're going through right now to Milton or Lane. I'm
just telling you, when there's an emergency, people they go
to their natural core sort of upbringing and they try
to help. And that's what's going on here. We're trying
to help people out here. This was the latest on
this incident on the five Freeway from my buddy on
(02:33):
Channel seven, Chris Christy let's find out what's going on here.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
This crime scene has shut down the northbound side of
the five freeway right there in the center of your screen.
Chp keeping an eye on that vehicle right there against
the media, and it is an older model Cadillac riddled
with bullets. One victim inside, another victim taken to the hospital.
There are other cars associated with this crash that happened
during this shooting. There are three suspects that fled the
(02:59):
scene out here, but they're going to have a lot
of evidence to clean up and collect before they can
reopen the northbound side of the five Freeway here, which
has been completely shut down. Traffic backed up all the
way to the six oh five. This is all happening
on the approach to the Atlantic Street exit.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Just oh sorry, sorry, sorry.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
LEAs shut down, traffic backed up all the way to
the six oh five. This is all happening on the
approach to the Atlantic Street exit, just before the East
LA interchange. And by the way, southbound side of the
five Freeway is jammed up all the way through the
East LA interchange.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Okay, that is Chris Christy in the helicopter. I know
that Michael Brian is Michael Brian still over it or
is he called.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
It a day? Yeah, they just landed, they did, okay,
all right, thank god, he's all right.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
All right.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
We're going to keep an eye on that on the five.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
We'll give you updates every couple of minutes, or as
soon as we get them, we will give them to you.
There's been another car crash, though this was breaking news earlier.
There's a very popular coffee shop on Ventura in Tarzana
and a car flew into.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
Him outside the shop and possibly inside as well. What
we're hearing is that there are seven victims of all minor,
but the driver. He's also injured. To make that eight victims.
That driver though his injuries are more severe.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Oh man, what's going on?
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Victims of all minor, but the driver he's also injured,
to make that eight victims. That driver though his injuries
are more severe, so he will definitely be going to
the hospital. At this point, it's unclear what may have
caused the crash, but the La City Fire Department is
out here in full force with their Urban Search and
Rescue Department, and Building and Safety will also be on
(04:39):
its way to check on the structural integrity of the
building that's latest here from Tarzana.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
In you shop before.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
I'm Eleana Marino.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
All right, this happened at the Enigma E Nigma Enigma
Coffee Shop in Tarzana, and it happened earlier today.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
If you're not familiar where that is.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
It's on Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, and it's fairly close
to Recieda Boulevard, just west of Recieda Boulevard and east
of wilbur or Tampa, right there on Ventura Boulevard, and
that's where this car flew into the Enigma Coffee shop,
(05:20):
right there on Yolanda and Ventura, which is exactly where
I went to Junior High. On Yolanda. I went to
Portola Junior High. So it's just literally two blocks from
where I went to Junior High. I don't know why
that matters. All right, let's talk to who's out there.
Michael Monks is out there at this accident. Michael, Welcome
to K five.
Speaker 6 (05:40):
Hey, tim My pleasure. This is definitely the biggest show
in town in Boike right now. You can count on that.
I mean, the entire community out here. It looks like
surrounding what may very well be a tragic scene. Still
waiting on some official details. I know there's some reporting
out there, but hoping to hear some details from the
CHP about what exactly went down on the northbound side
(06:00):
of the five freeway, which is completely shut down right now,
eerily empty. On the other side of this something that
you only see usually when the president or vice president
is in town. A very unusual scene, but a tragic one.
It appears right here in the middle of it all,
where there is a white tarp draped over one of
these vehicles, maybe indicating something terrible happened there. Again, reports
(06:23):
that there was a shooting, reports that there are people
on the loose involved in this. But right now, what
I see is one vehicle with a white tarp overtop
it right now, and possibly four other civilian vehicles that
may have been involved in this somehow, one of them
pretty beat up, one of them with some serious damage
to it as well, and then a couple of other
(06:44):
ones that may have just been caught in the middle
of this melee.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
It does look like.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
There are some civilians who are in the middle of
this as well, talking to investigators.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
The CHP obviously on the scene. They've got this thing
blocked down, and.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
You know, it's a tragedy in and of itself, and
for everybody else, it's quite an inconvenience at this time
of day when you're trying to get.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Home and there's nowhere to go.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
If you're stuck in this, it's just not a good
spot for I mean, you never want a tragedy to happen,
of course, but there's nowhere for these folks to escape.
So I know that our team up in the air
and on the ground are keeping an eye on alternative routes.
But if you're close to this thing on the highway,
you're gonna have to find a way to get comfortable
because this is tough.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
All right.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Michael Monks is out there on the five northbound near
the East LA interchange. I know that we have about fifteen,
maybe twenty minutes before the sun is setting.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Can you still see the sun where you are?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
It's daylight here still, absolutely so we.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Got about twenty minutes.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
But have they brought out the lights because in twenty
minutes it's gonna get dark. In an hour from now,
it's gonna be pitch dark. And I don't think there's
any any natural light or or even street lights in
that area. That area is always pretty dimly lit.
Speaker 6 (07:56):
Well, LA across the entire city is having challenges keeping
their lights because of the widespread copper that there are
street lights in the surrounding neighborhood.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
There are highway lights right near.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
This accident on both sides, so hopefully that will suffice.
But yes, I would anticipate that these experienced investigators will
have all the equipment they need as they continue to
look into this end of the evening.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
What do you see overhead on the CHP helicopter LAPD
news copters is pretty busy above.
Speaker 6 (08:21):
The answer to that is yes, it is a dramatic
amount of traffic in the sky as well as there
are helicopters hovering from our colleagues over at the TV
stations and then law enforcement related as well, and again
neighbors are surrounding. I'm here at an overpass on Loraina
Street which goes over the five here, and that has
(08:42):
attracted a large crowd.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
I have made my.
Speaker 6 (08:45):
Way into an area that otherwise would not be too
inviting for a kid from the suburbs, but this is
where we are now, and everybody seems to be pretty
comfortable here right now along a wall right next to
the freeway, where I hope people are being careful because
one slip and you'll be on the five as well.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Right and Michael Monks again on the near the paths
of the five freeway. Are people you can see people
in their cars. Are there a lot of people out
of their cars socializing or are people closed in and
shut it down?
Speaker 6 (09:16):
From this angle, it does look like some folks have
gotten out. I was driving over from the downtown base
to get here and listening to you talking about, you know,
you and Crozer, how you try to keep it together
in these situations.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
I hope that's what they're doing.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
We know that's easier said than done, but it does
look like some folks have stepped out to get some air.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Otherwise, it is a nice night. It feels good out here.
You know.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
One of the lead cars for one of the cars
that is closest to this incident is a blue truck.
It looks like he's a gardener and he just missed it.
I mean literally by feet. He either could have been
shot or could have been home by now, and he's
got to be you know, going through both scenarios.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
Yes, I do see that truck and you were probably
looking at an aerial view, and so you've probably got
an even better sight of this truck, but not clear
on the circumstances surrounding the shooting. So how close these
folks behind them may have came unclear at this moment.
We're hoping to get those details as soon as we can.
I'm not the only journalist on the scene, and we'd
(10:19):
all like some information. But you got to think if
you miss something like this by hair, Yeah, you want
to get home to dinner.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
But all right, we'll let you stars as well.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
We'll let you go grab us some more information. We'll
check back with you. But thanks for good buzzing down there, man, Mike.
Pleasure to check Michael bunks down there at the five
Freeway northbound.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
It's closed at the LA interchange.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
We are on top of it and will continue to
bring you information all night long.
Speaker 7 (10:42):
Hey, here's some sausage for you, Chris Little. My boss
just came in and said that Michael Monks got out
there in like record time, and he was on the
phone with him and he said, well, you really made
it out there fast. And Michael said, uh, man, I
don't know if her own.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Oh that's great. That guy never swears too, all right,
I used the whole F word.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
It's like I like that too. He's a racetrack guy,
you know that, Michael. That makes them an.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, so I got down there so quick, Come out
with this three, Come out with this three.
Speaker 8 (11:07):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty kf.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
I Am six forty. It is Conway Show.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
We are on top of this breaking news on the
five Freeway northbound. But because there is no more new information,
we're gonna ask Dean to blow off this week. But
because there's no new information, one to have Dean. I
we haven't on for a couple of weeks. He has
been on vacation. So Dean Sharp is with us from
He's the house whisper right here on KFI on Saturday
(11:37):
and Sunday. Dean, we missed you over the last couple weeks.
By the show on Thursday is not the same without you. Man, Hey,
I missed you too.
Speaker 9 (11:43):
I am so glad to be back, except for you know,
freeway shootings and stuff is not wild.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
You know what, it's really remarkable.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
I know you spent some time on the East coast
up in the Northeast, and people are just different there,
I think. I you know, it's a slower pace, especial
in Vermont and Maine and that whole Northeast area. And
it's nice to see that people still live without shooting
each other on the freeways.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
You know what.
Speaker 9 (12:11):
You're so right, You're so right. And I'm not I'm
not trying to wax it, you know, unrealistic. But I
got to tell you, we spent two weeks in Vermont
and we did not meet a single unhappy, right, I'm
just saying.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I'm just great.
Speaker 9 (12:27):
It is just glorious this time of year, and and
everybody who lives there is like, yeah, yeah, yeah, of course,
of course, of course we're feeling good.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Life is good.
Speaker 9 (12:37):
You're right, the kind of vacation where you're like, you
know what, why why did I come back?
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (12:44):
I get it. That look a lot of people don't,
you know, yeah, they stay. But all right, So the
heat hopefully, you know, fingers crossed is over here in
southern California for the most part, the triple digits. And
I noticed that in Mammoth, California, on Tuesday or Wednesday
of next week, it's getting down to the high twenties,
which means, you know, winter is very close to hitting
(13:05):
southern California as well. We're gonna get some cool weather
next week. What are some tips for people on You know,
we all like to open our house up in the
spring and do spring cleaning, But are there the same
tips for entering winter? I know we don't get a
horrible one, but what are some tips for getting the
house ready for one of these raining, rainy seasons like
we've had over the last couple of years.
Speaker 9 (13:26):
Well, first of all, you know, I would say that
the biggest tip is that I believe here in southern California,
fall cleaning is way more important than spring cleaning. Oh really, okay,
spring cleaning is important when you are living in a
heavily snowy state, you know, an area where you've you know,
the it's like the whole thing has been bottled up.
(13:47):
The house has been bottled up for four or six months.
Believe me, you are ready to open those windows and
sure that hang out right, But that's not the case
for us here. What's more important for us here is
that we're about to hit the just a hair's breath
away from the holidays, right, and that is that's kind
of the super bowl of your house, and it's handling guests,
(14:11):
maybe out of town guests, maybe you're hosting Thanksgiving. You know,
the holidays just hits our homes full on and test
them to every limit. So really, now, now is the time.
Now is the time to get a fresh coat of
paint on everything. Now is the time to clear out
the house, to clean out the house, to declutter the house,
because there might be a lot of people hanging around,
(14:32):
so you need as much space and as much room
as possible.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
What's the rule of thumb in your house? I know
everybody's different on when you can put up Halloween decorations
on the outside.
Speaker 9 (14:44):
Halloween decorations. I mean, we're good now, we're you October first, Yeah,
we're good. We're good with it.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Actually my wife hates it, but I'm a September first guy.
Speaker 9 (14:56):
You are really pre empty up, get it. I think
you're really preempting the situation. But yeah, I mean I
think October first you're good to go, because you know,
at the time just flies by.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Sure, and I love doing it. I love decorating for Halloween.
And then those come down.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
You have a fault.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
You know, the little Thanksgiving decoration was pretty lame, but
you would do it anyway.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
And then to.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Decorate the house for Christmas, I love doing it. I
love you know, pulling the lights out, seeing what's work,
still seeing what we need new, and you know, putting
up those bulbs. Then finally stepping back the sun goes down,
you can see your work. I think that's a big
accomplishment for most people, and I think it shows a
lot of spirit on the block. It helps the block,
you know, celebrate, and it gives a good vibe to it.
(15:37):
I absolutely honor anybody that really goes out of the
way and makes the house nice for the holidays.
Speaker 9 (15:43):
I totally agree with you. I mean, I'm completely into
it too. Now, as far as Halloween goes, we tend
to around here, we tend to decorate for autumn, not
so much Halloween, just autumn. Like I've already got I
got corn stocks leaned up against the house, I got
pumpkins everywhere, right. But you're absolutely right, Tim. In fact,
on Saturday, one of the things that we're going to
be talking about is giving permission to people. And what
(16:07):
that means for me is this people really tend to
give themselves a lot of space around the holidays to
make their house fanciful. And what I want to talk
to everybody about on Saturday morning is giving yourself permission,
in the spirit of the holidays, to really allow that
fanciful spirit to infect the house year round, right, you know,
(16:30):
just year round. Now, I'm not talking about I don't
want you to be that guy on the block who
never takes no, but I'm talking about that freedom to really,
like you think about like, ooh, how the lights affect
this room and how are those twinkle lights going to
make this feel. That's the kind of stuff that people
could be thinking about all year long to just raise
(16:53):
the bar. That's right, buddy, I'll be listening. Welcome back.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
I'm glad you had a great time on your back safely,
and I'll be like thing Saturday at six am start
and then Sunday's and nine am start.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Thanks Bud, You're the best.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Thanks Deed Sharp, everybody the house whisper this weekend back
on KFI. A couple weeks off to vacation, breathe a
little so every time anytime you know, you come back
from a two week vacation, you hit the road running,
So it's gonna be a great show this weekend here
on KFI. We're gonna have some more fresh audio for
you when we come back on the shooting and Boil
(17:28):
Heights on the five Freeway. We are all over that.
We have Michael Monks there, he's reporting from the ground.
We've been taking some audio from overhead with michael'brien and
Chris Christy and Elean Moreno as well, and we will
have the latest update and when you're going to get
home and see if they're going to open this thing up,
of any indication whether they're opening up, you'll hear it
(17:50):
first right here on kfive.
Speaker 8 (17:53):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
KFI AM sixty.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
It is The Conway Show, Bad News on the freeways.
Thursday is your busiest day of travel. It's the new
Friday in southern California. And we'd figured out why if
you're a if you're working four days a week or
three days a week for some reason, and you're in
(18:20):
a union, work for the city or the state or
the county for some reason, and it's in all the
contracts that I've seen, and we've had people email us
and confirm this Thursday is one of the days you
have to work for some reason. And I don't know
what the reason is. Thursday is the reason is a
day you have to work. So Thursday is by far
(18:40):
the busiest travel day of the week in southern California,
and the Five Freeway is probably the busiest freeway on
the busiest day of the week. And the northbound Five
is closed right before the East LA interchange has been
a shooting. Three suspects are being sought by the cops.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
CHP is there.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
There are probably about six seven helicopters and planes over
this incident. Michael Monks from KFI is on the ground,
got there in record time, and we are with you
on this freeway. And I know we've been reporting on
this all afternoon. We've had some other stories we could
have gone to, but these are the people right now
who need information badly and they're getting it from KFI.
(19:30):
You know, for the last decade after decade after decade,
that's what the station does best. And proof of that, Crozier,
do you remember we had a guy named the Orange
County fire Chief. His last name is Fantasy. I believe,
and he is the chief of the Orange County Fire Authority,
(19:54):
and he flew into Los Angeles right after that incident
happened where the fire truck had overturned or the fire
transport had overturned, and I think twenty guys got injured,
some severely. And he got into his car at lax
and he turned on KFI and the first thing he
(20:16):
heard was that story on KFI. Brian Fennessy, that's his name, Yes,
and and that and and that's just you know, one
guy who knows if you're if you're if you want information,
this is the station that gives it to you.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
The Five Freeway. Here's an update.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
It happened probably This update is about fourteen minutes old.
Let's find out there's any new information on the five
north bound right before the East LA interchange.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Yeah, this is going to be an extensive investigation, Allen.
You can see the northbound side that remained shut down
as HP just begins that investigation. There is a tow
truck already on the scene down there. Numerous cars damaged
during this shooting that happened just about a half hour ago.
You could see that catalog right there in the media
and the victim's body remains inside that car. Another victim
(21:04):
transporter to the hospital after three suspects fled the scene.
Here and a major backup on the northbound side of
the five freeway with traffic coming to a complete standstill
all the way back to the six oh five.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
All right, and another update here, let's see if there's
any more new information from Fox. I think this is
Alex Michaels.
Speaker 10 (21:22):
Yeah, and obviously yes, as you said, a massive backup,
and you know these situations is a crime scene, so
we're not sure when it's going to get cleared up.
It's not just an issue of getting the cars off
the road, right, So we're going to focus in on
where those lanes are closed against the five northbound right
here near Boyle Heights. And then there's a long line
of red about seven eight miles long, very very slow.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Stop and go traffic leading up to that.
Speaker 10 (21:43):
So this is the area you want to avoid going
northbound on the five. And I just plotted if you
were to drive from the six oh five to Boyle Heights,
what is your alternate. Well, the map is telling me
that you could exit Garfield right here, and if you
took this route, it would take you about thirty five
minutes to go from.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
The six oh five to Boyle Heights.
Speaker 10 (21:58):
If you were to exit here, you go under the five,
and then there's like various routes.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Bandinia I believe is one of the roads.
Speaker 10 (22:04):
And also twenty six would get you in this direction
up towards downtown, where then you would of course get
into the normal traffic up in that area.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
So right, okay, so that's the traffic workaround. We will
keep you up on this. Moe Kelly starts in twenty
one minutes and he'll have updates all night long as well.
The five Freeway our busiest of all the busy freeways
here in Los Angeles. I'd say the four or five
and the five Freeway are the two most traveled freeways.
And one of them is closed down. And if you're
(22:32):
born and raised here or he spent considerable time in
Los Angeles, you know that when one freeway closes down,
all the other ones get full.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
It's like an artery, you know.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Once in one of your arteries backs up, all the
other ones have to work over time, and it puts
a lot of stress on your body. This puts a
lot of stress on the freeways in southern California. The
Dodgers and San San Diego Padres are tied up at
two games each. As the final game of the National
League Division Series returns to Dodger Stadium tomorrow night, first
(23:06):
pitch five eight pm Tomorrow night. Listen to the game
on AM five seventy LA Sports and an HD on
the iHeartRadio app. Keywords AM five to seventy LA Sports
powered by Zen She Sushi, Fast, Fresh and Easy Zen
She Sushi. And then don't forget the Marongo Birthday. We
(23:31):
wanted to do this earlier, but we've had breaking news
all afternoon. Be one of the first fifty people to
sign up and you and a guest could win and
join us on Saturday, October twenty six from six to
eight pm at Marongo Casino Resort and Spa. And I
just got word that Gary and Shannon are going.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
So if you're a big Gary.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
And Shannon and Mondo fan, they are going to be there.
I know Gary Shanner are going to be there. Mondo
is playing hard to get.
Speaker 7 (24:00):
I think the last time they were there, one of

(26:00):
story here in Los Angeles and we will cover it
for you. It will continue it to cover it after
the show with Mo Kelly and his crew.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
We're live on KFI.
Speaker 8 (26:10):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM sixty, KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
It's Conway Show.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Well, the big story all day long has been this horrible,
horrible backup because of the shooting on the five Freeway,
and it is. It's horrible for a lot of reasons.
There are some people that are have been there since
(26:41):
you know what, four o'clock, four fifteen, four thirty, and
they've been just sitting there waiting, and everybody has places
to go.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
You got home.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
You got to get home to your you know, your wife, husband, kids,
significant other, whatever, what else is going on? And or
perhaps you're a delivering you know, you're a delivery guy
or gal, and you got a truckload of stuff that
needs to be at a certain place at a certain time,
and your boss doesn't buy traffic anymore. You know, when
I got caught on that five freeway, they're like, ah,
(27:10):
you should have bailed, you should have got around it.
You know, nobody gives you any more slack. Nobody gives
you a slack anymore. When you say traffic, Everyone's like, okay,
you got ways, you should left earlier. Everyone always blames
the driver, but in this case, it's not your fault.
You get caught up in this thing. All right, here's
some more audio, Maybe there's some more information here. Michael
(27:31):
Monks from KFI newsroom is down there. He's gathering information.
I'm sure he'll be on doing live reports during the
mo Kelly Show, which comes on in about twelve minutes
or so. So here's the latest information on the five
Freeway northbound shooting right before the East La Interchange. Traffic
backing up to the six to Ozho five Freeway some
(27:54):
seven eight miles of just stopped traffic on the five
Freeway and it's a mess out there northbound shutdown.
Speaker 11 (28:04):
They have been for at least an hour now. This
is starling traffic during the evening rush hour. This is
the highlighted vehicle where that person was shot and killed inside.
We can also tell you that one person was taken
to the hospital in unknown condition.
Speaker 12 (28:18):
That car facen't the wrong way on the freeway near
the center divider, its rear window shattered by apparent gunfire,
as we see here from the citizen Apple gives you
a sense of just how much traffic there is, what
a mess this is. We know that there were several
other vehicles stopped in the area. At least one other
car appeared to have its rear window shattered. Fox London
(28:40):
photographer Stam duman is stuck in that traffic trying to
get there to report live from everything, Sam give us
a sense of what you're seeing on the ground.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Yeah, I guess it's really tough to get down there too.
Michael Monks made it in record time, though I'm not
sure where he was. Maybe it was downtown when he
slid down there. But he's on the ground gathering information.
Find out what this photographer has found out from kt TV.
Speaker 13 (29:03):
Yeah, guys, Hey, Alex, Hey Marla. I've done this drive
for a very long time, so I can Usually I
can usually predict it to the minute or the second,
and this is probably one of the worst times it's
ever been. I was coming from the West La area
on the four or five and I am barely just
now at the ten East and Fairfax, So that's over
an hour just to get there. Usually I can wait.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
All wait, wait, wow, that's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
He was on the four or five near the ten
and only got to Fairfax in an hour.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
That's just a few miles.
Speaker 13 (29:38):
I was coming from the West La area on the
four or five and I am barely just now at
the ten East and Fairfax.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
That's a couple of miles. That's three four miles max.
And it's taken him over an hour to get to
those four miles. You can walk four miles in an hour,
so that's.
Speaker 13 (29:58):
Over an hour just to get there. Usually I can
get it.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
It's a mess out there, It's a mess get all the.
Speaker 13 (30:04):
Way past downtown in that timeframe. So it's it's it's terrible.
I mean, this is definitely worse than usual.
Speaker 11 (30:10):
Yeah, and no doubt you're not alone. What is traffic like?
I mean, you just painted a very clear picture. But
I'm sure you're seeing frustration on other drivers' faces. We're
trying to get our reporter who I'm sure you're trying
to hook up with at Lasko's there at the scene
as well.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Yeah, it's tough for these reporters to get there. Michael Monks,
you know, is a magician for getting down there in
record time.
Speaker 13 (30:31):
Yes, definitely. I mean people normally are pretty frustrated at
this time of day. But I've seen a few people,
you know, breaking the law, driving on the shoulder, doing
what they're not supposed to do. And even as I
look at the the overpasses here at the on rams
getting on the ten, they're crowded. The surface street traffic
is crowded. And I was talking to Alaska's earlier, so
(30:51):
he's actually approaching from the other side. He's on the
one on one south approaching from the valley. So we're
kind of trying to see even get there first. But
right now it's not looking good for either of us.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Yeah, this reminds me of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving traffic.
That's the worst day of traffic in southern California. That Wednesday,
the day before Thanksgiving is the absolute worst. And here's
how terrible it is. A radio station. I don't think
it was this station. It may have been about twenty
(31:22):
I remember this very distinctly. I don't remember what station,
but very distinctly about twenty five years ago on the
Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It's very smart. Maybe we should do
that this year. But they put a car at the
beginning of the marathon route whatever the marathon, the LA
Marathon route was that year. They put a car at
one o'clock or two o'clock in the afternoon, and they're
(31:45):
going to drive to twenty six miles in the Wednesday
traffic before Thanksgiving to see how long it would take.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
And guess what.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
It took longer than the guy who won the marathon
that year. It took almost I think it was three
hours to drive. And that's what this is right now.
If you have any kind of experience in southern California,
and you know, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and now the
Friday before Thanksgiving is a mess as well, But the
(32:15):
Wednesday before Thanksgiving is a mess on all the freeways.
And that's what we're experiencing right now in southern California.
Because of this closure on the five Freeway, all the
other freeways have backed up and it looks like this
Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Speaker 12 (32:29):
Yeah, and you wonder how much people know what's going on.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
They do they listened to KFI.
Speaker 12 (32:34):
These days, not as many people are listening to the radio.
They're sort of in their own world sometimes.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Okay, that look for a very smart guy. That's one
of the dumbest things he's ever said. Because he knows
that that's wrong, because he comes on KFI every Friday
with us, and he will tell you that he's on
KTTV at five o'clock every day, six o'clock every day.
He has his own show on Friday called the Issue Is.
(33:03):
And he said, almost without exception, every time he stopped
in an airport or in a hotel, at a sporting event,
at any kind of public event and somebody says, hey,
you're Alex Michaelson. Ninety percent of the time they reference
this station that he is on. They don't talk about Fox,
they don't talk about the issue is. They always say, hey,
(33:26):
you're on with Conway every Friday, and he'll tell you
that story tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Well, we played this audio back for him. He'll tell
you that.
Speaker 12 (33:33):
Story podcasts or other things in their cars. And you
wonder how many people even know what's happening.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
They know what's happening. He is not going to like
tomorrow's episode of here's Alex Michaelson as.
Speaker 12 (33:47):
All of this happens, but people are going to be
stuck for hours and hours. Hopefully we get some more
information sometime soon. As soon as we do, we'll pass
it on to you. Sam Duban, thank you so much
and best of luck to you. I guess it's gonna
take a little while.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Yeah, it's gonna take a long time, but we will
be with you. Moe Kelly is coming up next and
he'll have updates. Michael Monks is down there. He's great.
He will have updates all night long. And when this
thing first happened, Michael Brian and I were on the
same page and we both said it'll probably be after midnight.
(34:23):
And man, I hate to say it, it's looking like it.
It's looking like it. It's looking like a long long time.
And I feel for the people in the front row,
the first couple of rows, the first mile or so,
who are stuck in this thing. They've been there already
for going on three hours. At about fifteen sixteen minutes,
(34:44):
it'll be three hours, three hours since this has been
going on, and there might be another three, four or
five hours of this. It is a very very complicated incident.
There are a lot of moving parts. There's a fatality,
there's injuries, multiple involved shooting involved three suspects or on
the loose tied to this incident. And now the cops
(35:07):
have to put all this together with thousands of angry
drivers that they're staring at, and they're trying to do
it quickly, but they've got to do it very thorough
job here because this is going to turn into a
into it maybe a murder investigation, at least a homicide
at least a manslaughter investigation, and they need all the
information and they need to lock it off to find
(35:29):
out who did this and to pursue these guys. We
will continue on this all night long here on KFI
and then tune in tomorrow when we're going to have
another traffic jam. People trying to get to Dodger Stadium
tomorrow for the five eight first pitch, and you can
hear it on five seventy am, our sister station. That's
going to be an unbelievable crowd heading toward Dodger Stadium.
(35:51):
Try to get there by one or two o'clock, even
though it's a five o'clock start.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Get there early.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Cheer on these Dodgers, and they're going to win tomorrow
if enough people get out to that stadium and support them.
I think the audience tomorrow is going to put these
Dodgers over the top. All right, Crazy afternoon, Crazy afternoon.
Thank you for staying with us here on KFI. Mo
