Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's KFI AM six forty and you're listening to The
Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app. Yesterday we
talked about the Papa John's being broken into. This young
couple or middle aged couple. I don't know anything about.
Janelle and Brian Kawasaki. They have two Papa John's in

(00:22):
Santa Clarita or Valencia area, and both stores were broken into.
I believe it was Wednesday night. And you know Papa John's,
there's probably a lot of credit cards that are people
pay with credit cards or Apple Pay. There's probably not
much money in there. But to break the windows and
to bust into these two stores is horrible. And so

(00:44):
he said, Hey, if you live out in that area,
why don't you pop in tell them you're sorry, it's
not your fault, but say you're going to support them.
And that's how you keep businesses out there, and that's
how you keep customers happy, businesses happy, and that's how
we tell criminals that you're not going to win, that
you're not going to win. And Janelle and Brian are

(01:05):
with us. Hey, gang, how you gay Papa John's. Are
you both at the same Papa John's or your one
a beach.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
We were separated to what we we we we pinged
our calls together, so you're different back on Okay, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
That's cool. Look, so we talked about it on KFI.
Did you get any reaction at all?

Speaker 2 (01:28):
It was incredible and it's actually heard it making a
piece and some much that I heard you on the
radio and I said what And it was absolutely amazing.
As the phone was ringing and the other store was
calling to say people were calling. So we just are
so grateful and the community has been great, and it
just to me, it meant so much, not just from
a business standpoint, sure, from just a support standpoint.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yeah, yeah, I get it. And first of all, Brian,
how much money was at the the actual business that
it was stolen? I imagine I can't imagine more than
a couple hundred bucks.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, maybe three hundred dollars, Yeah, exactly, and so much
cask more businesses don't nowadays, right, Janell?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Where is the cost then to put everything back to normal?
Is it the front door and the building and the
structure of it.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
So we've been getting glass estimates and we're you know,
we're taking a look at this kind of glass that
doesn't shatter. It's a little more expensive, but you know,
maybe it's an investment at this point. And so we
had some estimates this is going to be several thousand dollars.
You know. I think I was making a joke to
Brian that the safe costs more than the actual money
that was inside.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Oh that's probably right. Well, fortunately for you, my brother
and I opened up a glass business. We're going to
come out and I charge you ten gram. We'll put
that sucker back together for you.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
I love tack right off, right off, you've only got back.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
How long have you guys been in the Papa John game?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
We are a couple of weeks from our two year anniversary,
so almost two years.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Okay, And did you put in retirement money to buy
two places?

Speaker 2 (03:02):
We did? Yeah, we did. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
So yeah, we both you know, I had taken some
time off. I'm actually a teacher time off, yeah, thank you.
And so I took a year off, and we were,
you know, as a post COVID we were trying to
figure out what we were going to do. So yeah,
we thought this would be a great investment. And so
you know, we're both you know, work in a middle

(03:27):
age middle age, I'll take.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Young Okay, all right, that's all right. Yeah, And I
know you have two locations out there in h is
it Valencia or are you in Santa Clorida? I get
those confused.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
It is Santa Clarita technically, the says the areas are
New Hall and Saugust, but they're part of Santa Clarita.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Okay, all right? And the part and did you buy
one first and then the other? And do you buy
them both.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Then the other? Yeah, well, Saugust one and the opportunity
to come up to the other, and so we went
all in.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Okay. You know I also heard because I've been reading
about Papa John's and in a in a list of
businesses that are franchises, did they really take care of
the of the private owners of of the pizzerias? Is
that true?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
It's been a really good experience. It's you know, a
strong brand, and you know, of years ago, some people
remember some of the things that you know, happened on
the on the you know, with the original Owner Act,
and those were some lean years as our understanding, but
we got it much past that, and you know, people
remember and how great our pizzas and service and that's
ultimately what people want and great value. But it's been

(04:41):
really good. You know, ingredients are fresh and highly controlled.
Everything's made fresh enough in prosen you know, so people
seem to appreciate that, and I think that that comes
to the owners as well, you know, in terms of
or right the way.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
You know, you know, I know this in working. I
used to work in a place called the Barco's pizza
or Italian restaurant. I know that when you own a restaurant,
you never you know, just lock the restaurant and go home.
You think about it all day, all night, every every
thought of where you're going to go on vacation, what's
going to happen, who's going to take over insurance, paying

(05:14):
the light bills, you know, moving product, getting fresh product,
running out of product. You think about it twenty four
hours a day, one.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Hundred percent true all the time. We're we're constantly talking
about it. Where we have a five year old and
he talks about how's the pizza doing today? Are talking
about pizza right now?

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Because you know it is it really is. It's you know,
this is our our our investment that we you know,
hope to get something from in the future, and we
you know, we really put a lot of blood, sweat
and tears into it.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
And so you found out, did it happen Wednesday night
when the fellow's broke in?

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Well, actually the second time was Tuesday morning. Okay, it's
got a phone call from the alarm company. You'll show
to good alarms and good police. Both both were true
in both of these times, and and luckily really probably
prevented more things being taken. But yeah, and so we
got the call. I jumped in the car right away,

(06:13):
was on the way, got the second call, and I
actually thought it's just a different agent that didn't realize
they already called us, and the said can I just
verify the address, and realized that it actually was the
second store.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Do you have any idea whether it was somebody who was,
you know, casing the join Do they have any leads?

Speaker 2 (06:31):
You know, the police didn't. We did give some video.
It has the car, but we didn't quite get the
license plate. Our buildings don't traditionally allow outside cameras. They've
actually since then made an exception, so we look forward
to putting those out so the next time we could
get a really good, you know, shot or more importantly
maybe preventative right from it happening, but was able to

(06:52):
get a little bit descriptive. Police are certainly you know, trying,
but you know, they were wearing masks and nondescript clothing,
so it definitely, you know, it's always a long shot.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Well, I'm glad you guys called it's uh, you know,
that's a great community out there. I love Valencia. I
go to the Walmart out there off of Golden Street
or Golden Avenue or Golden Crest, I don't know what
that There's a Sam's out there and a Walmart.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Kind of perves across and it's a little element. Yep.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Yeah, I drive from my house to that, you know,
to that Walmart, and I love it. It's huge. It's uh,
you know, the people who work there pleasant. I love
that area.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Park Yep, yep, but it really is. And I you know,
these incidents are so small in comparison to gosh, from
your radio show toens of people, but also just tons
of neighbors and customers that have just been so supportive
and again not even just from a business standpoint, but
just from a sympathy standpoint, because it doesn't seem you know,
the standard, and and I think it is. It is

(07:50):
a great community that just it had it had an
odd couple of days, but otherwise it's just an incredible
community that we all have to serve in service and
you know, get get the get the food out there.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
You know, we got an email from a lady that
said if they broke into Papa John's, they were probably
after the Oreo cookie Papa Bits.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
They are pretty good, I will.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Say, better than you think. That's what people always say.
We make them fresh.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
That's great. I hope you have a very successful uh,
you know, retirement and business. And if anybody wants to
visit either Papa John's in the Valencia area. I know
there's two of them, and and and you know, check
out the one that's closest to you. But you've got
one up near Copper Hill and the other one is

(08:41):
sort of in the in the sort of the downtown area.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
So the old downtown centre that's right right in the
think of it. And if you're not near us, the
poor Papa John's anywhere near you, and really strive for
that consistency, you know, as a brand, and to get
that pizza that that's that you like. If We're your flavor,
you know. We love to be your your your in
the app, repeat your order, you know, once or twice
a month. That's what we hope for.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Janew and Brian. I love the spirit. You don't sound
like two people have just been broken into You sound
like you just open up your own shop and just
got married. I love the attitude.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Jim.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
I just really want to say thank you so much.
We really just appreciate it. I was telling grad I
just I really feel a lot of gratitude just for
everything that people are doing, but especially to you know,
but you know, put us out there, you know, on
a on a very popular radio show, a lot about it.
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
It's the least we could do. And I point that
out to Bellyo and Bellio said, yeah, it does seem
like the least you could do. I mean just mentioned
it on the air.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
We really want you to come try our piece if
you're in the area, stop at the wallet, give us
a ring when you're at Walmart.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
But you want to ready for you Eventually gonna get
tired of me. You're like Matt Tim You're coming every day.
We're losing money. What's going on with you? But I
really appreciate you coming on Janelle and Brian kawasan at
Papa John's. Good luck and anytime you know, anything happens
in the future you're doing a charity events, you can
rely on us. We'll help you.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Thank you, Thank you Sunday Online.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Ooh is that right? Okay, forty percent off. That's a
great deal. All right, forty percent off. All right, thank
you Janelle and Brian Kalasaki Papa John's in Valencia. And
that is uh, that is great. That got too great. Yeah,
that is terrific. I got an email from Brian late
last night saying, hey, I don't know what you said
on the air, but she he said, I can't tell

(10:34):
you how many people have come through the door saying
sorry you got broken into, but we're here, We're going
to support you. And you get sort of emotional about
that because you don't hear stories like that in California.
That's like a Midwestern thing where a guy gets broken
into and everybody you know, flocks to the shop and
helps him out. I'm glad it's happening out there, because
if any area in southern California reminds me of the Midwest,

(10:55):
living outside of Cleveland. It's that area, Santa Clarita and Valencia.
It really is right.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
We have a Harupa Valley fire. If you live out
in Harupa Valley, I gotta be careful. The winds or
the sant Ana winds are kicking up and these fires
can take off a lot of vegetation, a lot of
dead vegetation up in the hills the mountains, and we
just all pray doesn't happen with the Santa Ana wind.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
And updating this breaking news. A fire has burned twenty
five acres in Harupa Valley. It is the potential to
burn seventy five acres. Started a couple hours ago near
Mission Boulevard and Cresmore Road.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
So far no structures are threatened. All right now, if
you're wondering where Harupa Valley is, that's a great question.
I'll tell you where it is. It's near the fifteen Freeway,
south of the ten Freeway and the fifteen. So if
you're on the ten Freeway you go south in the fifteen,
it's right off that freeway right there, off the ten

(11:58):
and the fifteen. Well it's east of the fifteen and
south of the ten. There you go. And so fire
burning out there. That's not good, not good at all. Actually,
isn't herupa valley off the ninety one? Got almighty. I
can't tell you how many times I've looked at a

(12:19):
map on Google and they never tell you the freeway,
the ninety one freeway. There's a Google map that goes
from downtown LA all the way to Riverside and never
tells you what number freeway that is. In the old days,
it'd be every five miles they would tell you what
freeway was. Now these Google maps, Ah, they never do it,

(12:43):
never ever do it. All right, Dodgers lost. That's the
big news coming out of Los Angeles, Well not LA,
but big news in LA that the Dodgers lost today,
and so they are ahead three games to two against
the Mets. Next game is on Sunday, and then if
if the Mets win that game, there is Game seven

(13:03):
and Game seven. There's nothing like that in any sport.
Game seven always the best in basketball, hockey, and baseball.
Game seven is incredible. All right, let's talk about this
abandoned dog during the hurricane. Some guy decided he couldn't
take his dog with him. Either didn't have room or

(13:25):
couldn't afford it. Something happened, So he tied the dog
to a post to a fence and left the dog
there in the storm. What's going on with this guy?

Speaker 7 (13:37):
Just hours before Milton's landfall, state troopers responded to a
call of a dog that had been left tied to
a fence off Interstate seventy five in Tampa.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
I don't blame you.

Speaker 7 (13:50):
The relentless rains pounded down on the frightened bull terrier
he faced drowning in the rising floodwaters.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Yeah, they expected a storm surge between fifteen and eighteen
feet would have killed him.

Speaker 7 (14:03):
And the dog's owner, who allegedly left him tied to
the fence, was nowhere in sight. We're now learning the
dog's name is Jumbo, Authority say twenty three year old
Giovanni Aldama Garcia told them he tied Jumbo to the
fence before fleeing the hurricane because he couldn't find anyone
to pick up his dog. Governor run DeSantis doesn't buy it.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
You don't just tie up God. This went all the
way up to the governor's office. How about that in
the middle of a storm, the governor had to deal
with this idiot.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
Governor run DeSantis doesn't buy it.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
You don't just tie up a dog and have them
out there for a storm. Totally unacceptable. And we're gonna
hold you accountable.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
There you go. And when the governor says they're gonna
hold you accountable, man, he means it. He means it,
And we're gonna hold you accountable. And the nice thing
about Democrats and Republicans they don't agree on a lot,
but they do agree on This guy's an idiot. This
guy is out of control tying his dog up during
his story.

Speaker 7 (15:03):
Jumbo is now in a foster home with a new name,
Trooper Coopooy Shrooper. Trooper Trooper Shrooper, Troop Trooper Coopooy.

Speaker 8 (15:15):
Trooper's owner is facing.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
It is Trooper Smoke shop. Smoke him if you got him.

Speaker 8 (15:21):
Trooper's owner is facing a felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty.
Trooper won't be up for adoption officially until after the investigation,
but the shelter says they're already getting hundreds of office.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Oh that's great, that's fantastic, man. I tell you, people
do come together when it comes to animals. They love
their animals, and I'm with them, I'm with my not are.
We got to take a quick break here again. The
big news Dodger next Dodger game is Sunday. You can
hear it on five seventy am our sister station right

(15:52):
next to us. Literally, if I drilled the hole through
that wall I'm pointing east, it would go right into
the Dodger Stadium or Dodger Studio. And if I drilled
a hole in the west, that's another Dodger studio. They
have two studios here, two. We have one. KFI has one,
Dodgers two, and both of them are gonna be active

(16:13):
on Sunday. And that means Kate's is working. That Timmy
Kates works his ass off. He produces the Petres and
Money Show, he does UCLA, he does the Raiders, does
the Dodgers, and he's been working thirteen to eighteen hours
a day during the playoffs, and man, does it look
like it. He looks exhausted, exhausted that guy. We're live

(16:35):
on KFI, Go Dodgers on Sunday. Start time little after
five pm. Get to the stadium early. It's going to
be very crowded, to sellout crowd at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty ok I Am.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
Six Cording's Conway Show. Dodgers lose in New York. They're
coming back to Dodgers Stadium for Sunday's and that'll be
shortly after five pm on Sunday, and they have to
go to Game seven, that's at five pm on Monday.
All right, Dodgers post game wrap up here.

Speaker 9 (17:12):
Really haven't heard officially if it will be a bullpen game,
but we're waiting to see what's going to happen there.
But you know, before this game, this proud was amazing.
I was talking to some Mets fans and they were
saying how great this season has been. After that turnaround
in early Jude, it's been like a magic carpet.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Ride for them.

Speaker 9 (17:31):
When things turned around. The season started horribly, but it
looked like it was coming to a screeching halt the
way the Dodgers handled the Mets in Games three and
four here on City Field. Here at City Field, but
they got to Jack Flaherty early and often. Jack was
so good in Game one, but like you said, he
wasn't one hundred percent tonight. According to Dave Roberts.

Speaker 10 (17:51):
You know he's been fighting something. He's been under the
weather a little bit.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Oh, I didn't know that. How about betting on that game.
You had no idea this guy has the flu or
rickeds or COVID, whoever you had.

Speaker 10 (18:04):
You know, he's been fighting something, He's been under the
weather a little bit.

Speaker 11 (18:07):
Ah.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
They should tell people that before people make wagers. That
should be public knowledge. Yeah, sounds like Dave's got them.

Speaker 10 (18:19):
So I don't know if that bled into the stuff
the velocity. I'm not sure. I haven't talked to Jack.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Yeah, I think it does. I think when you have
the flu or cold or what have you got COVID,
that you know you're not on top of your game,
so to speak.

Speaker 10 (18:34):
And I'm not going to deploy our leverage guys knowing
that there's a cost in the back end.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
And yeah, that's right.

Speaker 10 (18:43):
Appreciating the fact that there's still more baseball to play
in the series. So I have five leverage guys that
I wanted to make sure that you know, you got
to deploy at the right time.

Speaker 11 (18:53):
But it didn't really matter. I lost as a loss
that matter. I'm not here for personal accolades. So you
just got to find it to win some game.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
That's right, got to win a game or two.

Speaker 9 (19:04):
But having two chances to win one game, you got
like your chances.

Speaker 11 (19:07):
I'm not worried about that. We got one one game
a couple that didn't take care of business.

Speaker 9 (19:11):
Then you know what, Andy Paye has hit that three
run homer in the fifth inning to cut the lead
to five. The Mookie Bets hit the solo home run
to cut the lead to four. This place really got quite,
but credit the Mets. They kept battling. They added a
couple of insurance runs for the twelve six win. Of course,
the Dodgers would have liked to close things out tonight,

(19:33):
but that's why they earn home.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
God, that's gonna be annoying. That met Stadium is very
close to I think Kennedy Airport or LaGuardia, one of
those two. I think it's Kennedy an All day long,
you have jets taken off right over your head.

Speaker 9 (19:48):
Got quite, but credit the Mets. They kept battling. They
added a couple of insurance runs for the twelve six win.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
That's what's so great about Dodgers Stadium. You got a
Dodger Stadium, and you can't even believe you're in Los
Angeles anymore. You can't if you're sitting in the stadium,
you can't see any buildings. All he sees these beautiful
hillside and surrounded by nothing but mountains. Man Dodger Stadium
is still, in my opinion, the most beautiful park in
all of sports, certainly in all of baseball, but I

(20:17):
think all of sports as well. I think a lot
of people agree with that. Here's a guy in Menafee
who decked out his entire house in Dodger decorps.

Speaker 6 (20:31):
Well, the Dodgers could lock their spot in the World
Series with a win in New York Today, it didn't happen,
and not every fan could make the trip to the
Big Apple. But this super fan has the next best thing.

Speaker 8 (20:40):
We agree.

Speaker 12 (20:41):
I witness soon as porter of Marco Roblis takes us
into the ultimate Dodgers backyard.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
If you're in search of the ultimate Dodger super fan,
it's quite possible we found him. This is Pablo's man
Cave eighty three miles from Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
I love it. This is my time, our time, get
away a little bit from the you know, from.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
The crazy world out there and enjoy our Dodger game.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Pablo Picaso Castillo has been a die hard fan all
his life. He started taking his own girls to the
stadium when they were little, and it's all led to this.
From high above, you could see his home at Menefee Sports,
this custom pool.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
This guy's great man. This guy is just that he
knows exactly how to enjoy himself and he's got it
all decked out there in Menefee. For people that don't
know where Menefee is, it's off the two fifteen near Paris.
So if you're to take the two fifteen south of
Riverside and you cross through Paris and then you get
right into Menefee, it's essentially east of Lake Elsinore. If

(21:39):
you're in Lake Elsino, you just go east. That's where
Menefee is.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
And the custom bar, all in the comfort of his backyard.
You can imagine it's been a popular place this week.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
You know, I always bellyol. Maybe you have the answer
for this.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
I don't know. I know if I have it, or
maybe a crozier, but I always I have a rule
of thumb. If the house is really really decorated on
the outside, like thousands and thousands of lights and blow
ups and decorations for Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, I have a
feeling the couple inside doesn't talk to each other anymore.

(22:13):
Why is that? I don't know. I think the guy too.

Speaker 8 (22:16):
Much focus and attention on the yard and the flow ups.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
I think the guy in the gal while they might
get along, they don't spend a lot of time chatting
with each other. So he's in the yard a lot,
and he's doing a lot of decorations, lots of them. See,
I think they do it together. It's the opposite. They're strong, okay,
all right. I like that. I like it festive and
they're like, yeah, let's do it. I like that.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Bellay, you're always positive? All right?

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Quick?

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Whip around? Do we have the whip around music?

Speaker 9 (22:43):
Bella?

Speaker 1 (22:43):
You got that handy ully? While you look for that,
I will tell you the whip around today. If you
took twenty five thousand dollars, whoa, we got it? Twenty
all right, twenty five dollars and you invested in Starbucks.
You guys are familiar with Starbucks, right, what would that

(23:08):
investment be worth today? Wait?

Speaker 7 (23:10):
How much?

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Twenty five thousand dollars in October of two thousand and two?
Thank you? Let me write all the names down. Your
Krozier is Lindsay in there? Yes, Oh my god, it's
a full boat. Okay, all right, Bella, Tony Krozer, Lindsay
and Belly O. All right, here's the question. If you

(23:33):
took twenty five thousand dollars and you invested it on
October fourth in two thousand and two in Starbucks, it's
twenty two years ago, almost to the day, twenty two
years ago. What is the twenty five thousand dollars investment
worth today? Bella, I'm going to go for okay, this

(23:55):
is a high ball. One point five million, one point
five million a right, twenty two years of owning twenty
five thousand dollars for a Starbucks stock, what is it worth?
I'll just go for one million flas one million, all right. Crouch,
I'll go big, twenty mili twenty million, all right, uh,

(24:15):
Lindsey thirty million, thirty million dollars, alright, Bellio eight million,
eight million. Okay, the winner and nobody's even close is Lindsey. Yeah,
what is it? Forty million dollars? Oh way, if you
if you say yourself, if you bumped a credit card

(24:38):
on October fourth, two thousand and two, the price of
a share was forty seven cents. It's now seven hundred
and sixty three dollars a share. Your twenty five thousand
dollars investment in two thousand and two, twenty two years ago,
almost to the day, is worth forty million, six hundred
and thirty two thousand, four hundred and forty six dollars Bellio.

(24:59):
We could have been wealthy.

Speaker 12 (25:00):
I know.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
We called that, we did. We said Starbucks is going
to be a big hit. Nobody believed us.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
So depressing.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
It's really depressing, isn't it. Yeah, it's horrible. It's the
worst thing in the world, worst thing. But yeah, forty
million dollars, forty million from twenty five thousandt's take it.
Let's hey, I would do. Let's go all right. We
do stocks every Friday at six forty two, and it's
being brought to you by oh, advanced terror. Look at

(25:30):
that one day treatment, life changing results make your appointment
today at Advanced Hair dot com. We'll wrap things up
when come back. Dodgers lose, but the next game is Sunday.
Right here at Dodgers Stadium.

Speaker 5 (25:43):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
Am six forty.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
Shoeyo tanis in the news again. The ball that he
hit for his fiftieth home run. He's a member of
the fifty to fifty club. Fifty home runs, fifty stolen bases.
Nobody's ever done it before, and Shoeo Tani did it
in a rehab year. This is supposed to be a
down year for him, rehabbing from Tommy John or surgery
on his arm. And in a rehab year he hit

(26:10):
fifty home runs and over fifty home runs and stole
over fifty bases. And that ball that a lucky fan
was able to retrieve is now up for auction and
the current bid is one point eight million dollars. One
point eight million dollars. Wow, and there's gonna be some

(26:33):
kind of litigation as to who owns it. I guess
there's some crazy story about it. Always a fight, always
a fight, you know. We live in a very re
litigious World so Los Angeles designated hitter show Hey. Otani
was honored in the first ending of the baseball game
against the Rockies in Los Angeles back in September. You know,

(26:54):
Toni was the first major league player to achieve fifty
home runs and fifty stolen based on a single seat.
The online auction of shoe Aotani's fiftieth home run ball
has just four days remaining and the highest bid right
now is one point eight million dollars. I think he'll
go for more than that. I think it's gonna be
closer to four million, So we'll keep an eye on that.

(27:15):
That's a big story. Also, the Coast Guard is another
big story. The Coastguard rescued a kayaker twelve hours stranded
to see twelve hours out there in the middle of
the ocean.

Speaker 13 (27:30):
A seventeen year old was rescued in Hawaii this week
after spending twelve hours clinging to his kayak in the
middle of the ocean. The team became separated from his
high school paddling team when he capsized and lost.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
His Wonder if he's off the high school paddling team,
I won, If they're going to throw his ass off
the paddling team.

Speaker 13 (27:47):
The team became separated from his high school paddling team.
When he capsized, He's out and lost his paddle. A
coast Guard aircraft spotted him early the next morning. He
was rescued by a boat a short time later. Wow,
you suffered hypothermia but is expected to be okay.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Thank goodness. What a great story. Great ending to an
otherwise horrible story. All right, add on charges. Five things
you should never pay an add on charge for.

Speaker 14 (28:13):
The First one is these extended warranties. I just bought
a waffle iron and they're offering me a warranty.

Speaker 12 (28:19):
Now, why do you need a warranty for something that
costs fifty dollars?

Speaker 9 (28:22):
This is what I don't know.

Speaker 12 (28:23):
Also, there's a manufacturer's warranty probably for a year, so
you probably just need that year of warranty. And consumer
reports even found that these service plans and purchase protection.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
How about just taking the risk on a waffle iron
that you're going to have and make enough waffles. It's
gonna be worth your purchase and you don't have to
deal with the warranty or the extended plan on it.

Speaker 12 (28:44):
They actually cost more than having the thing repaired or
after a couple of years.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
You know, it's also ridiculous when you go to one
of these big hardware stores and you buy I don't know,
a little hand saw that's fourteen dollars, or I don't know,
a hose or something pair of sheers for fourteen dollars.
They always offer you an extended warranty for like two dollars.
You're spending fourteen dollars or something, and you're gonna spend

(29:08):
a three dollars for a warranty, plus I think trying
to get the money out of it is a lot
of hoops and a lot of problems, a lot of headaches.
You just buy it and you hope it works.

Speaker 12 (29:20):
Replacing it, so look at the manufacturer's warranty. You probably
have one. There's awfully a lot of restrictions on these
extra ad on warranties. You buy one. The first place
just check their review is buy something that's not going
to break, and buy it from a retailer that's going
to take it back.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
That's right, that's exactly right.

Speaker 12 (29:36):
Preferably without even a receipt. There are retailers that will
do that, so you probably don't need that extended warranty.
It's just makes you feel maybe a little better. Gun,
I decline, but it's a waste of time and it's a.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
Pain, and then you've got to find the warranty when
this thing finally blows up on it.

Speaker 12 (29:50):
Pain to actually have to go and try to try
to use it.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Yeah, and we're talking about that.

Speaker 13 (29:53):
At these electronics store, they always give you a moment
of pause, buy a TV or something? Are you sure
you don't want to? But you say you don't need
probably don't need Okay, good, Let's move to gas. Premium
gas is incredibly expensive. If you look down the line
compared to what it is for regular and you say,
unless you have a very high performance car, you don't
really need it.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Not only do not need it, but some of these cars,
the high aunting gas is not good for the engine.
You're going to ruin your engine. Buying the expensive.

Speaker 13 (30:18):
Gas a very high performance car.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
You don't really need it.

Speaker 12 (30:21):
You really don't. You need to check the manual on
your car. If you have a normal car like most
of us drive, you probably just need regular gas. It's
an eighty cent difference for the big most expensive gas.
And I was surprised how many people think if it
costs more, it's better. Yes, but in a car for gasoline,
this isn't nineteen sixty five. You can use the regular

(30:41):
gas in your car and.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
You're going to save an awful lot of money.

Speaker 12 (30:43):
I'll take your own manual.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Okay.

Speaker 14 (30:45):
This next one surprised me. If you're renting a car,
you say, do not get the extra rental car insurance. Now,
I'm always sort of like waffling on this because you
think worst case scenario, Well, you don't want to be
out of luck, but.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
You say no, I get it. I'm one of these
fools that get it, you know, just in case I
get wiped out or get stolen. I don't want to
get stuck with it. But maybe it's a bad purchase.

Speaker 12 (31:06):
Number One, check your personal auto insurance. If you have
comprehensive and collision it probably includes this. And you can
call whatever your state farm, get go whoever you have,
call and get a person on the phone and get
them to tell you no. You can decline this coverage.
And then check your credit cards. A lot of credit
cards cover this too. I have called my card when
I have doubted myself on this, I've called my card.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
They're like no, you're covered.

Speaker 12 (31:26):
The only exception on that is a couple of things
Discover and City don't have some of those policies. Also,
check your credit card for travel insurance.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
You know, I don't know if you guys get this
in the mail. I get a pre approved discovered card
like twice a year, and I send the information back
to them to get pre approved for this discovered credit card,
and then they send me back a letter declining me.
Every single time they say I'm preapproved, I sign it,

(31:57):
send it back and then they tell me, no, dice,
we're not extending any credit to you.

Speaker 12 (32:02):
Also check your credit card for travel insurance. How many
times have you gone to book a trip? And it
asks you if you want to add the insurance. A
lot of especially the premium credit cards, they already have
the travel insurance. That's something else you don't have to click,
and that.

Speaker 13 (32:14):
To be really expensively trying about a trip or a car.
All right, let's talk about credit monitoring. This is something
people can pay for. You say you would never do it.

Speaker 12 (32:22):
I would never pay for it, but I would stay
right on top of it because this is really really
important identity theft. It can just just destroy your life.
So first you can protect your own identity for free.
You freeze and unfreeze your credit at Experience, Equifax, and TransUnion.
Those are the big credit agencies.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
I personally do this all the time. It works beautifully.
Freeze all my credit is frozen because some guy tried
to open up a credit card about four or five
years ago. So all of my credit is totally frozen,
and then I just call or go online to open
it up if I'm ever buying anything or need to
use it.

Speaker 12 (32:54):
This is a great idea, and by law they have
to do it in a day, so you can freeze
it and nobody can open up anything on your own
credit card. Check your credit report regularly annual credit report
dot com to make sure there's not something affishi there.
But you need to do this. You've probably also been
in a data breach, so you probably owed this for
free anyway by whoever already lost your information.

Speaker 14 (33:14):
Just say no, okay, last one HVAC maintenance contract.

Speaker 13 (33:18):
I haven't even heard of it.

Speaker 12 (33:20):
You know exactly what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
You own a home.

Speaker 12 (33:23):
Probably if you pay for it every time you use it,
it's better than getting like an annual subscription that you're
automatically being charged on your credit card. You only you
know what's best for your own household. But a lot
of the experts say this is a way for the
companies to get the revenue.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Yeah, to get into your house and check it out.
All right, we got to get out of here. Moe
Kelly is up next with his whole crew. Go Dodgers
on Sunday, hopefully when we come on the air Monday.
The Dodgers are already in the World Series. If they
don't win Sunday, they're going to be playing Monday, and
that'll be Game seven and we will be on the
air when that game starts. All right, mo Kelly next
and his whole crew next right here on KFI AM
