Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's KFI Am sixty and you're listening to the Conway
Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app. It is New
Year's Eve, and we've got our very last a whole
of the year. The guy that shot up the target
last night. I think we all are aware of what
happened last night. A guy went into Target allegedly tried
(00:22):
to steal some stuff in downtown LA. And then the
security guards are like, hey, what's going on with you?
And he's like, well, what's going on with you? And
they're like, no, what's going on with you. I'm reading
from the transcript here, No, dude, what's going on with you?
And then there's a pause. He's like, what's going on
with you? And then the guy's like, well, what's going
(00:42):
on with you? And then after they got through that
interesting conversation, the guy was stealing stuff. He went into
Target with a briefcase. And you know, anytime a homeless
guy's walking around the briefcase, I don't know, it looks
a little suspicious. He's like, he's overpowered with his CEO.
(01:02):
Look there with the briefcase, and so he's suspicious guy.
Homeless guy with a briefcase, suspicious and so he pops
open the briefcase and he's a lot of stolen goods
there from target.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I don't know how much.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I mean, I don't know what kind of max you
can throw into a briefcase from shelf shelf items at target.
I can't imagine it's a lot of money. And then
the shooting began. And once the shooting starts at a
target like that and Krozier, if I don't, if I'm not,
if my memory shows me right, I think it's the
same target where that kid was kidnapped, Oh, the attempted
(01:39):
kidnap last year. I think I'll have to look that up.
Because there's not many targets in downtown LA. There aren't no, no,
no targets said screw it, we'll go out in the suburbs,
but we're not going to slide into a downtown LA
just for this reason.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Too many crazy. This one says it was in Korea
Town the attempted kidnapp.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Oh, okay, so it was different, Okay, all right.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
So this target is very very close though to Staple
Center or to what is now what Qualcomm or what
do they call it now? Crypto crypto, crypto Cryptocrypto dot com.
So this one's very close to Crypto dot com. It's
walking distance. And the people who own crypto dot com
and you know that that big entertainment facility down there,
(02:21):
they hate this kind of crap. They hate it because
people do the back off boogaloo.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Once.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Once you start getting shot at target, it's very difficult
to come back from that. So they this guy goes
in shoots up the security guards. They're both ones in
the hospital once's been released, and then they have a
photo of this guy. And who would have guessed this
A hole would be easy to find, but the cops
are on him. They've barricaded this guy somewhere in downtown
(02:50):
LA and now they're just gonna sniff him out and
he's gonna be doing some uh, he'll either be in
jail or in the morgue by well, I.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Don't know, midnight.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
He's gonna have a much different New Year's Eve than
you are, much different.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
And that's what happens.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
When you try to steal from target and then you
decide to shoot the security guards, you get LAPD's Finest
all over you. They put twenty to thirty guys and gals.
All over you and they find you quick. They got
that heavy armored vehicle stuff around that building too.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Man.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah, they bring in the they bring in the armory.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Man, they bring in the top dogs.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
When you shoot somebody at target, that's a big af
you to the lapd and they'll turn around and they'll
slap you pretty hard for that. And that's what they're
doing right now. They got them cornered. Where is that crows?
Do we know where this guy's all buttoned up? Ingram
Street in the West Lake District?
Speaker 5 (03:47):
Ah?
Speaker 3 (03:47):
They say it's only a few blocks from that target
store that's at Fig and seventh that it took place out.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Okay, all right, all right?
Speaker 1 (03:53):
And Fig and seventh is very close to I think
it's Fig and Tent, which is where the stadium is. Oh,
I think it's three blocks right, yeah, And that's no
no in downtown La.
Speaker 6 (04:05):
All right.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
For people that missed the story, let's let's go through
the whole thing. You know, I give you some of
the bullet points, but maybe I missed something. All right,
Let's find out what happened at this target.
Speaker 7 (04:15):
The aftermath of a shooting at this target at the
Fig at Seventh Shopping plaza here in downtown La a
shopping cart tossed to its side. Police are running in
the store and outside people were hugging just near the
crime scene. Scary and emotional moments. According to a spokesperson
for the LAPD, it was just before nine o'clock last
night when officers received a call about a shoplifter at
(04:39):
the Target right here on Figaroa.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
I wonder how I wonder how often that happens. Cops
get a call that somebody shoplifting downtown.
Speaker 6 (04:45):
We'll be right there.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
We're on the way.
Speaker 7 (04:49):
Security guards were trying to stop the shoplifter when he
pulled out a gun and shot at the guards.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
And by the way, the security guards at Target Downtown
are armed. They're not you know, carrying a billy stick
and you know, walking around drinking coffee and looking at
their cell phone.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
They're they're armed.
Speaker 7 (05:06):
One of the guards was armed. It's not clear if
he used his weapon, but he did.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
It was clear he did.
Speaker 7 (05:12):
He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The
other unarmed security guard was also rushed to the hospital
in stable condition. I'm working to find out the extent
of their injuries and how they're doing right now.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah, okay, one of the guys has left the This
must be an older story. One of the guys has
left the hospital. He's he's back home. And then the
other guy's still you.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Know, fighting for a Yeah, yeah, I say, he's still
in critical.
Speaker 7 (05:37):
And we're hearing from witnesses who scrambled for safety.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Well, I wonder what Target does?
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I mean, does Target send them a gift card, a
gift basket?
Speaker 2 (05:48):
I don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Yeah, Target's got to step up and give the guy something.
You know, I don't know what you get, but you
got to get something. They got to open up the
line of duty, man, get something one of those big
ass ninety eight inch TVs.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Something like that.
Speaker 6 (06:04):
Everybody's spending king yelling. It's like, you know, run to
the back, run to the back.
Speaker 8 (06:08):
Nobody really looked back because we could hear kind of
bullets whisking bias.
Speaker 6 (06:11):
We just started running up the stairs.
Speaker 8 (06:13):
Something that can just be a normal night before New
Years turns into like something.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
To oh wait, he said something meaningful.
Speaker 8 (06:19):
Here looked back because we could hear kind of bullets
whisking bias.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
We just started running up the stairs.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Oh no, oh no, We got ourselves a two story target.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
Oh no, so we just started running up the stairs.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Oh no, If that's true, that's the most confusing hour
of my life. What floor is my crap on at
my two story target? There's one in Glendale, it's one
on Sepulvida. I avoid him like the plague because I
spend my entire hour and a half in there, going
up and down the escalator, thinking, all right, where's men's
(06:58):
shirts first floor?
Speaker 6 (06:59):
Down?
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Ah, it's just up there. Where's electronics? Second floor?
Speaker 6 (07:03):
Now?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
First? Oh god, it's just down there.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Oh.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
Something that can just be a normal night before near.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
And the thriller putting your cart on the escalator and
it riding next to you wears off pretty quickly.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, yeah, the first time. Second time, Ah, it's kind
of unusual.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Yeah. Then it's just like a right, here we go.
Speaker 8 (07:21):
Something that can just be a normal night before New
Years turns into something totally different and split second.
Speaker 7 (07:27):
Yeah, thankfully they were okay. The shooter managed to get away.
Police describe him to be in his twenties or thirties,
standing out about six ' nine.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Wow, guy, six foot nine?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
What that's what they say?
Speaker 7 (07:41):
Six ' nine witnesses say he was wearing all black clothing,
a gray scarf, and gray backpack at the time of
the shooting. And again, this happened in a really busy area,
a popular area. There are a lot of security cameras
outside of these stores as well. We know detectives will
be canvassing the area for any footage.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
All right, Well so anyway, so that's what happened.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
The description I see says he's between five eight and
six four.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
He's only one hundred and sixty pounds. Yeah, it's just jealous.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
So if he's six ' nine jealous, jealous, jealous, what
it is?
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Ye crouches just.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
What I fit in that that description Late twenty twenty
four New Year's Jealousy fart five eight scrolls.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
He's a shorter than she said.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Well, when you're looking for a guy that that doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
I guess it does, baby a little.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
Right.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Have you seen the the the pictures of the guy
at the suspect Yeah, they had been or some people
are still describing his as a white guy with one
of those white afros.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
I'm like, yeah, and I don't know that he's a
white guy.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
I don't know what he is, but he's His nickname
on the school yard was Frowsy. I don't know how
he got that, but frowsy this is his name, all right?
Well they got him held up or hold up, it's
the term there that Chris Little would usericade. And we'll
come back and find out the rest of the story.
As they say here, what happened to this lad bud?
(09:14):
He's LAPD's got him surrounded. Wait to bring in the
new year, Yeah, but a way to leave.
Speaker 9 (09:20):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
Am sixty.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
We've we've had an a whole alert downtown, LA. Guy
decided to allegedly rob We got one more for the
New Year, and then we'll get to the parties. But
guys shot up a target. Target hates that. LAPD hates it.
People live downtown hate it. And now they're after this chap.
(09:48):
Two security guards injured, one is still hospitalized, and we're
off to the races.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yeah, thinking dong with this guy.
Speaker 10 (09:55):
Right right now, I'm at the corner of Bixel in
Seventh Street, that's just around the corner from where that
shooting took place. And you can see behind me they
have firefighters here on scene on standby. They also have
SWAT on scene ready and imposition. We're told that SWAT
was just waiting on a search warrant to proceed in
the apprehension of the suspect who is barricaded in an
apartment building on Ingram Street. This standoff has already gone
(10:18):
on for hours, and now we know that SWAT is
in the apartment just above where the suspect is believed
to be located.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Oh, I wouldn't say that. I wouldn't put that out
on the air. Yeah, why would the cops want that?
That guy barricaded and know where the cops are. Guy's
got a Ghani shoot right through the you know, I
don't know what those apartments are like, but right through
the ceiling into that apartment got them mighty.
Speaker 10 (10:42):
In a press conference just a few hours ago, police
described the suspect as violent and armed after the suspect.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
And gaged cruser. Please, we're trying to do a story, sorry, okay.
Speaker 10 (10:52):
In a press conference just a few hours ago, police
described the suspect as violent and products after the suspect
engaged in what they described as a gunfight with two
security guards at the target at seventh and Fig.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
God, where is this? Is she doing it from a
homeless encampment with two.
Speaker 10 (11:08):
Security guards At the target at seventh and fig two
people were shot. One victim was a lost Prevention Target employee.
They were shot multiple times and remains in the hospital
in critical condition. The other was an armed security guard
who was able to check out of the hospital today.
Police say more than ten rounds were fired during the incident.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Ye had a lot of blood there too, at the
entrance to that target.
Speaker 11 (11:30):
Oh boy, We've done a tremendous job, the men and
women of recovering guns and arresting violators. But it still happens.
But this particular incident is particularly troubling because it was unprovoked.
People were doing the lawful duties to detain this individual.
There was a lot of people around. It appears that
(11:52):
the shooting was very indiscriminate.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Yeah, very very lucky. We're not talking about six people
getting killed here.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
The suspect far at least five rounds for five people.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
You know, you could have shot multiple people in that mall.
Speaker 11 (12:05):
So this particular individual has demonstrated just a wanton disregard
for the human life.
Speaker 10 (12:11):
Again, this standoff has been going on for hours. We're
told it began around eleven thirty and the suspect is
believed to be armed and dangerous. So police are taking
every precaution in this apprehension.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
All right, So that was the afternoon update. Here's a
newer one. Let's find out where this scientist is here.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
We parked on Seventh Street. Seventh is blocked between Bixel
and Garland. We told you earlier there appears to be
heavy traffic on the one ten related to this standoff,
this ongoing investigation. If you can avoid this area in Westlake,
I would do that right now. We are live, but
we're heead a newsdrop or four back to you.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
All right, Hillie, thanks for those breaking details.
Speaker 12 (12:52):
Yeah, go ahead, And I'm sorry, yeah, just because there
are so many street closers, Julie, I'm just wondering, what
routes do you suggest people who live in the Cereal
work in this area take.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
They'll figure it out.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
I mean, look, nobody, nobody listens to you know what
routes you should take on the radio, you know, if
there's an if there's an incident. Sorry, Mike Angel, but
that's just the facts.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Only parked on Seventh Street. Seventh is blocked between Bixel
and Garland.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
All right, Seventh and Bixel.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Well, if you can't figure it out here it is,
we'll give you a how to work around here, right,
you work around and figure out.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
How to get home.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
I would suggest if you can't take Seventh, taking Wilshire
Boulevard instead, that is open right now. But again, the
closure is going to be on West seventh Street between
Bixel and Garland. And we are getting some new details
right now from our desk about exactly where this is happening.
So I'm going to toss it back to you at
the desk and we'll get you another update as soon
(13:53):
as we have it confirmed.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
All right, let's look at this here Vixel. I found
seventh here, Let's see seventh. Let's find out where Vixel
is here? Is it b with a B with a
Bixel or V with a vixel?
Speaker 2 (14:07):
I don't know. It sounded like vixel, but it could
be Bixel.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
But this is fairly close to the one ten freeway,
and all right here it is here it is, Yeah,
the one ten Freeway downtown Los Angeles, just one block
south of Wiltshire on Bixel and Seventh, which is literally
one block from the one ten freeway, and it is
fairly close to Crypto and very close to where he
(14:36):
shot those people allegedly, but it's it looks like fairly
newer apartments. And you can tell that because it has
a lot of solar on the roof. Anytime you see
tons of solar, you know people have bought into that.
And so seventh and Bixel right there, you know what,
there's a there's a there's a what is the right
(14:58):
across the Jerry's hand and wash and auto detail if
you're in the area. But if there's a there's also
a lot of office buildings there and a lot of
apartment buildings there, and it literally I mean, if he
were to walk under the freeway there at Seventh Street,
and I think he can walk under the freeway, he
would literally get to exactly where that shooting happened, right
(15:20):
under the freeway.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
He's he's two blocks.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
This guy who shot these two security guards allegedly only.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Got a block and a half, Yeah, in twelve hours.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
So obviously he doesn't have wheels, he's got very few
friends he can rely on. He's got a lot of
a lot of holes, a lot of emptiness.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Yeah, right there.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
It's the seventh fig There is an overpasser, but the
freeway that's Seventh Street overpass that would take the exactly
right there. Yeah, he could walk there and yep, five minutes, yep,
right over the overpass. It's right there.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah, maybe he lived there, maybe lives on seventh in
Pixel and I just you know, he's had it, you know,
he just had it and needs some stuff at Target,
didn't want to pay for it. He's at a dough
took his briefcase with him. Yeah, maybe girlfriend broke up
with him, or I don't know, something something snapped, you know,
and and that happens people snap. I get that, But
(16:13):
I think Krozier is right. I think the earlier you know,
reports whether he was six foot nine, I think he's
closer to five to eight.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
So it's a big difference.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Can't be that hard to find if he's six ' nine, right,
If he's six ' nine.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
I remember I went to a Hollywood party. I've been
to three in my life, but I was at a
Hollywood party about thirty five years ago, and and somebody said, uh,
you know, it's a bunch of Hollywood types, you know,
so everyone's uh five five, you know, five six, and somebody's.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Is absolutely true. It's true. It's a roomful. You walk in,
there's six' one. You're like a giant.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
And somebody said, I think Will Chamberlain's here, And I said,
I think we would have seen Will Chamberlain if he
was here. I don't see Will Chamberlain here, But if
he shows up, I bet everybody'll know that Wilt's here.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
I just thought it was they're just mistake him for you.
Speaker 8 (17:09):
Will.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Yeah, the white Willed. That's it's set up my name
tag for that party. But all right, so we're going
to keep up you updated on this thing, and then
we'll also have some you know, lighter moments and talk
about New Year's twenty twenty four is literally seven hours
and thirty four minutes away from being over.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Liberia just went into the New Year's. Was that right?
Speaker 1 (17:34):
How they enjoy the old Liberia? Yeah, and it's seven o'clock.
Who goes in it's seven o'clock anybody? Or is that
the middle of the Atlantic, maybe Iceland or Greenland? Coming
up at the well at the top of the hour,
here got coming up. It's like some some very obscure
play well. I think Portugal, Portugal. Okay, some of Portugal.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
I think some of Portugal already has all right, yes,
some of Portugal, like Lisbon, Portugal just had their the
twenty seven minutes. But another part of Portugal Pointa del Gatta,
which is out in the Atlantic, that's going to be
at the top of the hour.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Oh I see, okay, and then we'll have a five,
We'll have six o'clock and then seven o'clock parties as well.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
There's a few that are turning right at the half
hour too, which is weird.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Oh that's right, yeah, yeah, yeah, there are some people
that are half assing that the clock. Yeah, I get that,
all right, all right, we're live. And look we are
live all week. We decided to come in. We thought
it was gonna be important. We thought there's gonna be
big news. We're right right right on all three cases.
We're live on KFI. It's New Year's Eve. Enjoy yourself,
(18:33):
slow down, a lot of people out there. You'll get
to where you're going and enjoy your night tonight, so
you don't have to spend it cool in your heels
with nine hundred other drunks in the drunk tank.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
And six dude that's right.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Yeah, yeah, you canna be standing next to that dude,
the frowsy six foot nine guy, the white fro. Yeah,
he's gonna be uh maybe maybe he might be separated
from you. He might still be talking to Alan Hamilton
and his crew at the midnight. If he's still with us,
Big Night Night tonight.
Speaker 9 (19:01):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Happy New Years Tonight's New Year's Eve.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Hope you have great plans, Hope you have a terrific
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
COVID is the best year of your life. I really do.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
And we're going to keep an eye on this guy
who shot up allegedly shot up Target last night in
downtown La seventh and Fig. They have n't blocked off
barricaded on Bixel and seventh right there off the one
ten freeway, just a little bit west of the one
ten freeway. So if the one ten's all jammed up,
(19:39):
you see a lot of cops, a lot of helicopters
around there.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
They're looking for this.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Guy that shot up Target, shot two security guards last
night right there, Seventh and Fig. Beautiful center, beautiful shopping
center there a lot of my stores are there.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
And you know, they got that.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Big celebration downtown today at the Glory Molina. I think
that's gonna be a little bit far away, but even
getting to it might this pain they asked nightmare.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Yeah, I wonder how that will go tonight. Who knows,
but CBS. So we'll keep an eye on that guy.
We don't know if he's five eight or six nine.
Couple of reports coming in on that lad. CBS is
going to do something new because I think we're the
first ones to do that story where everything's locked up,
everything's behind plexiglass. And then we had a news story
(20:27):
that we ran here that was great where the guy says,
you know, you press the button and you wait for
the guy with the key and he shows up Moody.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
And they do.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
They show up Moody even if they have the key.
A lot of times you go to Walmart, they show
up Moody.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
They do. What's that? I already forgot? Where did that?
Speaker 8 (20:46):
That was?
Speaker 2 (20:46):
The CVS? They Moody.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Yeah, they show up Moody. But you know, you go
to Walmart. I go to one at Empire Center. I
love it, and I press the button to get the keys,
you know, for I don't know Yoda and shaving cream
whatever it is. And I don't get any action initially,
(21:10):
And then I asked a guy walking by with a
Target shirt on a Target I don't have a Walmart
shirt Walmart hat. He's got a Walmart I d he's
got the Walmart colors on. He works at Walmart. Yeah,
And I said, hey, do you have a key for this,
because Nah, they don't know. They don't trust me with
the key. I said, okay, I said.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
You know who else they don't trust with the key?
Speaker 6 (21:32):
Me?
Speaker 1 (21:34):
You have the same privilege I do in this store
and you work here. How does that make you feel
pretty low?
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Huh?
Speaker 9 (21:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Yeah yeah, He's like, yeah, but I get paid pretty
bummed out. Why don't they trust you with the key?
I don't know. I'm not there yet. I'm not there.
I'm working up to it. You're not there.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
You're not a key guy yet. Huh So you're not
key to this store? And he just flipped me off
and takes off. But yeah, he's already on edge. He's working.
He's to Target at eleven PM. He's just about there.
But CBS is going to try something new where you
can open the plexiglass on your own.
Speaker 13 (22:11):
If you're in a city or many suburban areas and
you walk into a CBS, you've likely felt the frustration
of going to grab a toothbrush for deodorant or whatever else,
only to be thwarted by a locked plexiglass barrier. The
stores do it to protect against theft, but they say
they've heard customers complaints, so they're trying something new and
new age.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Okay, this is cool, right, got to keep moving gotta
keep moving forward. People hate this, so they're going to
try something new.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
What is it to buy deodorant?
Speaker 4 (22:36):
So I to press the button and wait for the
lady to come to open the deodorant.
Speaker 12 (22:40):
Frustrated customers are turning to social media to compleat I.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Think this woman needs extra strength in the deodorant area.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Lounger glass odorant, So I to press the button by baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, babe.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
It's just yoduran. Please don't make a scene, honey, honey, honey, honey.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Please don't for the lady pity Please got instill.
Speaker 12 (23:00):
My customers are turning to social media to complain about
locked up merchandise.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
Every single hair product is locked up.
Speaker 12 (23:11):
Retailers say they're turning to these plexiglass cases to lock
up everyday items because of incidents like these.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Yeah, and it's not a mystery why people are ordering online.
Speaker 13 (23:21):
A lot of stuff is locked up behind these Why
is that?
Speaker 6 (23:24):
That's right?
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Why do you think let me let me throw the
question back to you.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
A lot of stuff is locked up. Okay, all right,
we got that behind these Why is that?
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Why is that? Why do you think? Because people are
stealing crap all the time?
Speaker 14 (23:38):
Bingo, We've seen a massive increase in retail crime across Ah.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
I don't even play this audio before we came in today,
and I guess that that the reason why things are
locked up, because people are stealing crap.
Speaker 14 (23:51):
We've seen a massive increase in retail crime across not
just CBS, but retailers around the country. So the amount
of faught that's happening in our stores is up thirty
percent versus three years ago.
Speaker 12 (24:01):
CBS now piloting new technology that they say will cut
out having to wait for an employee to unlock cases.
Chief merchandising officer Moosa bubble A gave us an exclusive
first look at how it works.
Speaker 14 (24:14):
You come into our app, you click in store, let
me give.
Speaker 6 (24:17):
It to you.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Okay, it sounds easy so far. You just have to
get the app.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
You got to put your name in, your address, your birthday,
your credit cards.
Speaker 12 (24:28):
You come into our app, you click in store, let
me give it to you.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Okay, move the phone close to.
Speaker 13 (24:34):
The phone, close and then there's Jesus unlocked cabinet.
Speaker 14 (24:37):
Two seconds hit unlocked.
Speaker 12 (24:38):
Now two boops, turn pull, grab your product. You can
close the door and after grabbing the product, the customer
will then need to close and lock the door.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
All right, so we worked there. We're all working there now.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
You know we self check out, We have to unlock
our own habinets were you know what's next. You have
to wear a CVS vest in order to activate that
that app. And then we just worked there. Now we
work there. We all work at CBS.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
There we go the store.
Speaker 14 (25:13):
Is much easier for you as a customer on your
own to navigate to go from this aisle to hair
care to other aisles and may have these locking cases.
Speaker 12 (25:22):
Walmart says it's also testing similar tech, but one difference.
Employees would unlock cases with mobile devices.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Okay, so the employee instead of having a key, because
I guess a lot of those keys are stolen and
duped and a guy comes back and wipes them out.
So now the employees are going to open it with
an app instead of a key. Employees, so then we
have to go find them again, right, And and it's
more complicated because the key is easy. Everyone everyone who
(25:50):
works at Walmart knows how to use a key. I
would bet you one thousand dollars that that's not close
to the same number of people that can use an
app that work at Walmart.
Speaker 15 (26:02):
And normally they have the key like on their belt.
But now you go find them and then they're like, well,
hold on, let me go get my phone my app, right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Right, and then they've then they they got to go
through Hold on second, I had Twitter.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Open, I had Facebook open. I'm done buying tickets ticket Master.
Hold on one second. I got an email there, I
got text there. Oh wait here, I think I'm getting clothes.
Speaker 12 (26:23):
Employees would unlock cases with mobile devices right. Walmart is
expected to eventually extend the mobile unlocking to customers that
are Walmart Plus loyalty members.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Ooh, how fancy are you? You are a Walmart Plus customer?
Plus Loyalty members a Walmart Plus loyalty members.
Speaker 12 (26:43):
That are Walmart Plus loyalty members.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
And you get an app and you are king. You
get to open up all those cabinets right now.
Speaker 13 (26:50):
That Walmart technology is in a few hundred stores across
the country and Walmart's.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Also you know this is going to happen, though, This
is going to happen, trust me, this is going to
happen on day one.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
First out going to happen. You open the cabinet.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
There's another guy standing next to you and he reaches
in to grab some things. Well, it's the cabinets open
under your app.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
What do you do?
Speaker 6 (27:12):
What do you do?
Speaker 1 (27:13):
He's telling no, no, no, but you can't this. This cabinet's
open under my app. You got to open under your rope.
And then all of a sudden, bang, we're off to
the races with that guy. Yeah, and the fight ensues
and you get your ass kicked over, you know, Irish Spring.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
It's like when you come into the office here and
they send out the memos that say, hey, if there's
somebody that's coming in at the same time as you,
don't let him in.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Right, and you always let him in? Yeah, what am
I going to stop somebody? Right?
Speaker 1 (27:41):
And if it's you know, if it's a you know,
like a woman or you know, all of a sudden,
it's like sexual discrimination. Yeah, if it's a really white
albino guy fro. Yeah, and then you're like, oh, it's
not you didn't let the albino guy in.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Yeah, it's a mess right now.
Speaker 13 (28:00):
That Walmart technology is in a few hundred stores across
the country, and Walmart's also testing out body cams on
some employees to deter theft. The CVS technology is currently
in three stores in New York City. There are plans
to expand to a small number of additional stores on
the West Coast if it all goes well. And if
you don't want to download another app or whatever, the
(28:20):
call button still works too.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Or Amazon after all that, Yeah, just used the call button.
The call button is such a joke that even the
people at Good Morning America.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
We got live. Let's go to ABC.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
A second shooting in question where two other people were shot,
also one seventh but about several blocks away from that shooting.
That part of the investigation continues. He could be the
suspect and that one, although we have not heard yet officially,
but that's a suspect.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
He has finally given up.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
They are taking him into custody and we will get
more information.
Speaker 6 (29:01):
We'll turn it over to you, all right.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
Well, there he goes, the guy that shot up allegedly
shot up target. The cops have him, and now he's
got a radically different New Year's Eve than he had planned.
Now he's going to be locked up. He may not
even get a sandwich before midnight. But no champagne, no
uh you know, weed, no beer, nothing.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
It's a wrap on this guy.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
So he was involved they think in last night shooting
on Seventh and fig They think he also may have
been involved in another shooting near skid Row.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
So we'll find out. We'll keep you up on this.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
But it's amazing how right up to midnight on twenty
twenty four, we still have, you know, a lot of
a holes in Los Angeles. And again I asked you yesterday,
this guy didn't listen. Let's calm down for a week
while we have visitors here for the Rose Bowl and
the Rose Parade. We've got one hundred and fifty, maybe
(29:59):
two hundred thousand people that have come to town to
see La and the Rose parade, don't shoot them at target,
let them enjoy themselves and go back and talk about
how great LA is. And then once they leave on Thursday, Friday,
maybe Sunday, then we could, you know, we return to
mad Max here in LA where we all just you know,
shoot each other, run each other over, hit and run,
(30:22):
you know, kill each other.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
We can return to that.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
But let's let the visitors hang out for a while
and don't beat the crap out of them, don't sexually
abuse them, don't rip off their wallets, let them leave
them alone, Leave the alone. They are visitors, they're guests.
There are guests. Let's leave them alone.
Speaker 9 (30:38):
You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI
AM sixty.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Conway Show.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
All right, ding talk, lots going on, lots of stories
happening here on what should have been a very easy
New Year's Eve. We're live here. It's not a recording,
not a best of that's what they call it, belly.
I don't like that term best of. That that tells
(31:06):
everybody that some of the crap we do here is
better than other crap we do.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
And I think it's all the same. It's all crap.
It's all crap.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Yeah, but best of is is like, oh, look, we
were really funny at this hour on that day, and
we weren't. We're just doing the same.
Speaker 15 (31:23):
What is the better way of you know, summarizing that
in just a few words, Bill, we're out listen to
this ezactly.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Yeah, we're not here, but this recording is stuff you
can listen to, that's right.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
All right.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
So the guy downtown, they've got their guy allegedly who
shot up the target last night. He thought it'd be
interesting to go over to target with his briefcase filled
up with crap and then shoot the security guards that
approached him. And he's in jail now, he's in custody.
(31:58):
If he's in jail, in custody, and he won't be
bothering anybody on at least this New Year's and there
might be a four or five to fifteen New Years
where we won't have to deal with him. That's possible,
I don't know, possible. And we got a big story
coming out of Puerto Rico. Kroscher, are we covering this
in the news?
Speaker 2 (32:17):
The power outage? The power outage? Yeah, like whatever, huge story.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Yeah, Puerto Rico is experiencing a widespread power outage after
the power grid collapsed, collapsed, and it's affecting nearly the
entire island. One point three million people without power on
New Year's Eve. Luma Energy not so Luma. Oh that's
(32:42):
what they're calling it now, Not Soluma, not Sluma Energy,
the private energy company primarily supplying power to the island,
reported as of ten eleven am this morning, only thirteen
percent of the US territories customers had power. Wow, that
is unbelievable. What a wild New Year's that's going to be. Yeah,
(33:04):
in Puerto Rico, whoa man?
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Oh man.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
I mean they can set the fireworks off and everybody
can see for a minute.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Yeah you can, you know, just keep them going. Read
your iPad for a second or so, which has no power. Yeah,
you gotta get charged up. Need those battery powers.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Pasture iPad that also has no power. Oh yeah, nothing
has anything going on. Wow, man oh man.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Anyway, so that's uh, that's a wrap for I don't
know how they're going to get that together.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
They said they got to, like right around three hundred
thirty six thousand customers have gotten their power back.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Also the beginning of four o'clock. That's great, So.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
They're slowly but they said it could take forty eight
hours to get everybody back up.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
You know, they had the same problem in Cuba about three,
four or five months ago, and they had to bring
in these big cargo ships with generators on them and
plug it into their system and give them power. You know,
the guys are living like it's like nineteen forty eight
and that's uh, that's wild, all right. Is this an
update your belly on the downtown suspect?
Speaker 2 (34:03):
I think it is.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Yeah, update on this downtown LA suspect who decided to
rob target allegedly and shoot the security guards allegedly.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
Look at what is happening right now. You're looking at
the suspect in this hour's long standoff that started at
eleven dirty this morning in the West Lake district and
now being marched out of this apartment building that he
was barricaded, and it looks like he's being taken into
custody now without further incident. This happened just a couple
of minutes ago. We saw a cloud of what appeared
to be tear gas coming out of one of the
(34:34):
upstairs windows this apartment complex.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Are there are there chicks running after the LAPD cars.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Are we there yet?
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Light with the Luigi effect, women throwing some panties at
this guy.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Yet they were until they realized he wasn't six nine.
If you look six nine in the video, I have no, no, no,
he's nowhere near six to nine.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
It looked like it was five eight five nine.
Speaker 5 (34:59):
This apartment complex. This is Ingram Street at Lucas Avenue
again in the west Lake district. It's this man standing
to the right of this squad car. It's got number
nine one five on its roof and now being taken
into incident, into custody without further incident here unclear what
led to this standoff finally ending. We imagined your gas
(35:21):
possibly being deployed. Did prompt him to finally surrender?
Speaker 6 (35:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Message with that tear guess and this guy didn't steal
any gas masks, so he's screwed.
Speaker 5 (35:32):
But this started at eleven thirty this morning, again tied
to the shooting last night at Target Downtown just east
of here, on the other side of the one tent freeway.
For now, seventh Streets still blocked between Fixel and Garland.
I'm going to zoom at and show you just the
massive spread out. Police presence still on the ground, but
(35:52):
this should be ending shortly. We are live over. Had
a news drop for four back to you, all.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
Right, news chapter four. I don't know if that was
Alpha or Bravo. Do they still have Alpha and Bravo.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
There on Channel four? I think they do.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Well, that's a good question or a lot of cuts.
Maybe Alpha's gone. It's just Bravo Bravo. Although if you
were the news director, would you keep Alpha or Bravo?
I'd keep Bravo and just and people will assume Alpha
is just out doing other crap.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
I would keep Alpha only because he just sounds so
much stronger, and Bravo just confuses me with really bad
reality though.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
All right, well, but but if you only have one,
you don't have the Alpha. No, but either that's true.
It's just their news copter. Now you don't have to
give it any labels.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
All right.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
So that's where we are. And uh in lighter news,
ladies and gentlemen. I know a lot of people like
Krozier and steph Uj and Belly. Oh, you guys are
big Trader Joe's fans. Stephanie is your Big Trader Joe's fan.
What do you do to Trader Joe's, Love Jose, What
do you get there? I get the volume, the what
(36:57):
is it? The chocolate alamode pie?
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Ooo? It sounds good, so good? Frozen?
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Yeah, oh Bobo, I'm going at tonight pick one of
those suckers up. But we have three new Trader Joe's
opening in southern California.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Three brand new Trader jos.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Trader Joe's is expanding in California, District of Columbia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania,
New York, Alabama, and Maryland. They're opening up a ton
of Trader Joe's. I came to Trader Joe's late in life.
I used to go there as a kid and that
didn't really interest me. You know, a lot of guys
were in Hawaiian shirts.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Have you done the Aldi?
Speaker 3 (37:42):
I like Aldie Young because they are they say they
are not connected like business wise, but it's basically two brothers.
Oh really, And they kind of had their range of
where they got their stuff is or where they're based
out of is on one end of the country where
they're based out of and then the old ones on
the like part of it.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
But I recently same family. Oh it is al the
end and Trader Joe. Yeah, basically, but I recently my
daughter turned me on to Trader Joe. She goes, Hey,
gotta go to Trader Joe's. Like the parking lots are
small and a really big fan of beings walk around
like a pandemic still happening. And I went and I
and man, I love that food there. Now, it really
is great and the service is great. At the one
(38:22):
in Burbank, there's like nine checkout stands, always open.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
Never have to wait more than you know.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
There's always you walk right up to a checkout, a
checkout stand where there's like one guy in front of
you maybe, but man, they're really good at that that
Burbank Trader Joe's. So they're opening up three more of
them in southern California, and I'm gonna tell you where
they are when we come back. We're live on KFI
AM six forty Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
(38:50):
Now you can always hear us live on KFI AM
six forty four to seven pm Monday through Friday, and
