Speaker 1 (00:04):

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yes, that's true for.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
You.
Speaker 4 (00:12):
You there's pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man
W four c Y Radio, and I'm.
Speaker 5 (00:24):
Here with John Frank of Bill Murray.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Nice and you just got off the boiling hot stage
of Aftershock.
Speaker 5 (00:31):
Yeah it's not too bad, man. It keeps you humble.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Dude. The sun there you go, right, and probably it's
like a welcome change sometimes, right because like the last
two days that the weather's socked here.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Oh well, I live in Ohio, so yeah, well, there
you go, California.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
The weather's amazing.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Funny thing is I live in Florida. Yeah, yeah, and
I do like all the Danny Wimmer festivals. I don't
get burnt in Florida. I don't get Burton, California. The
only place I get burnt is doing Sonic Temple in Ohio.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Oh dude, it'll get you, bro.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Like it's like, you know, if they expected I'm like,
I'm going from Florida, Ohio.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Okay, what am I worried about?
Speaker 5 (01:10):
Sometimes it gets as hot as Florida. Man, Right, it's unexpected.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
You're like, oh, I don't need this, and then you
start getting rocked by the sun and yeah, it happens.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Man. So I have a very important question.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Okay, when are you going to release Cox Slam?
Speaker 5 (01:28):
When did I say that?
Speaker 1 (01:29):
It was witch Spin magazine.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
I don't even know when it webs, but you're like, yeah,
you're cause it was the joke about the band named
rag Right and you're like, yeah again, name the band
Metallica sixty nine?
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Wait, no, ex Metallica X sixty nine. And we're releasing
our new album, Cox Slam.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
It's just it does a track with something that I
would say. So it's coming out soon.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
We just finished Cox Slam and that's gonna slam.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Dude, It's gonna be awesome. I love it.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
So how sick and tired of you having people ask you, oh,
do you get your band name? When it's pretty freakin'
obvious in some respects.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
Zero, dude, I understand the questions.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
See that's cool. I love it. So what's your favorite
Bill Murray movie or show?
Speaker 5 (02:20):
I like Life Aquatic.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
That's okay.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
So the first album artwork I did was from that
from that movie, and I was just like, I don't know.
I was watching it a lot at the time, so
I was like, hey, why not. Groundhog Day is good
to actually life aquatics to one.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
What do you like about that movie?
Speaker 5 (02:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
It's got this like nostalgic feeling to it. It's obviously
Wes Anderson's or Wes Anderson, so it looks pretty and
it's got an interesting style of humor.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
But I don't know. I didn't really put much thought
into it.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Man.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I just kind of was like, this is school, so.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
That's the when's best, Yeah, when you just don't overthink
and just do what you feel.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Especially as an artist, I.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Try to not think as much as I possibly can
in life, and that was the impetus of Bill.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Murray's it's less painful that That's right.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
You don't have to deal with the crushing realities of life, dude, right, yeah, exhaustly.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
That's what's great about music too, because music is like
the greatest escape, the greatest therapy. You look out there
in this crowd here and it's one big, happy family.
But we're all so different, I know, but that's what's cool.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
I love it, dude.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
It's been awesome to be like embraced by the rock crowd.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
In a way that we have.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
I didn't really expect it, but I'm super grateful, genuinely.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Well you're kind of bad ass.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Just all thanks, man, I tried, dude.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Bill Murray could learn a thing or two from Bill Murray.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Yeah, that's right. It's got to be a little more badass.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
I know. Right.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
So, speaking of the crowds, did it shock you here
after shock that playing at this time you would have
that huge of a crowd?
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I sometimes I can just like I'm like, I think
we're going to have a big crowd, but that was
like way bigger than I thought it was going to be,
right like peeking around the corner like ten minutes before,
like all right, this looks pretty good, and then like
you walk on stage and you're like, oh wow, this
is wild.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
So yeah, I had another festival this year a Danny Wimmer.
The band looked out like it was before gates open,
like nobody was out there, but they didn't know gates
weren't open yet, right, so they're like, I guess we're
gonna be playing and nobody And then they got on
stage and.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
It was like just as far as you could see,
and they.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Were shock, yes, yes, And.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
I think so let's must be like the greatest surprise
when you're artists that you really you're not expecting much
and then you get out there and you're like, holy shit.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Yeah, I mean it's always nice to have your expectations
like blown out of the water and right. I mean
today was like my favorite rockfest we've done this year.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
Really, I'm serious.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, I was like, just the crowd is awesome, obviously
decent weather, it's still hoppened, Like playing the main stage
was really really great. We're just I'm very happy to
have done that and yeah, cool man.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Yeah, And so I ask everybody Danny Wimmer Festival, every artist,
how does Danny Wimmer treat you as an artist?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Very good dude, Yeah, I mean, like it's We've had
the privilege of being able to do a bunch of
different festivals this year, and these are always like one
of the best run ones. We do everything, everyone knows
where everything is, and it's it runs pretty smooth, at
least on our end, so.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
It makes it easier on you. Like nothing's worse to
show up to a festival. There's problems with load in,
problem with sound check, and then you have to perform
all stressed out like that.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yeah, and it's we don't ever have that, So it's
really nice. And obviously it's like sometimes Bill Murray kind
of sits on the edge of rock and other stuff,
and so I'm really glad that he took a big
swing with us and had us out here.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
Super grateful.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
That's an art thing.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Cool about the festivals and Danny Wimmer festivals. We take
notes from the European where it's not just one genre, right,
we mix it all up and there's all different types
even within the genre.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Right.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
It's cool, man, and it's cool to see, like, yeah,
I don't know, you never expect to be embraced by
a genre of music, but rock has done that.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
And I'm super grateful.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
So what was that moment in time in your life
where you knew this is what you had to do?
What was that event or anything that happened that you
got the bug?
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Yeah, I mean originally Bill Murray started and I was
just like, I just want to play music again. But
I started writing stuff and I was like, oh, I've
got a lot to write about, and I just never
stopped and it just it came out, man, And I
didn't really expect it, and like, I never stopped writing music,
and it just Bill Murray is the perfect format for
me to write music. It's like a sandbox that I
(06:35):
never get tired of playing in.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I love hearing that because that's important.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Like, yeah, if you're not having fun playing in this industry,
you're in the wrong business.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
Yeah, I feel that way.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
You must have fun and make it fun, like you're
a creative. It's not supposed to be boring.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Well yeah, and that's like if it's boring to you,
like you're not doing your job, like exactly exciting for
you and all that.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
How can it be exciting for me out in the
crowd if you're not excited about there, like even a
smile on your face now, Like it's like it makes
somebody want to like your music more.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Well.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
I genuinely like a door playing music, door, interacting with people,
being in front of a crowd is really fun. And
being on stage with like some of my best friends
in the world, it's great.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
So and that's important too, yes, Like if you don't
have to write people in your band, oh my god.
It's like I even know some bands and I think
it's great that their siblings and they get along great. Yeah,
not Oasis, of course, but I think about my siblings,
and I'd never want to be in a band with
them In a million fucking years. I would kill them
(07:44):
before we get to our first gig because you're stuck
in this little kind fine, but people twenty four to
seven and it's like you better love each other, man, dude.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
Yeah, And I feel like we've been really grateful.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
I've been really grateful that I've found not only positions
who are amazing, but like ones that I genuinely love
spending time with.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
So yeah, that's key, And so what else do you
have come?
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Well, before we talk about that, I want to talk
about your newest song and that was recently dropped in
and tell us the story about that, because I love
the title and I pretty much hate everything in twenty
twenty five right now, because man.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
You said there's stuff to write about.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
There is some I never thought there would be more
stuff to write about in music than there wis in
the eighties, right and here we are.
Speaker 5 (08:34):
Yeah, well more than hat. It's like an interesting song.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
I feel like, in a lot of ways, if I'm
writing a concept that's not relational, I try to write
it in a relational way because.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
We're all really with ourselves.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah, So For me, it was like my relationship with
I have like a very addictive personality. So it's like
these relationships that I make with whatever it is, like
cigarettes or alcohol or just staring at my phone endless.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Leord a drip bar up there, right, So it's.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Interesting when you start these things. It feels like, oh,
I really love doing this. I really love smoking cigarettes.
It feels good, and then like you get addicted to
it and you're like, this very quickly turned to something
I absolutely hate, and that was kind of the impetus
for the song, and then you scrap it in a
way that like feels more relational because I just genuinely
feel like that's just a more interesting way too.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
And you know why I love even me relating to
the what's going on in the world today is I
think people are way too addicted to politics. Yeah, like,
oh my god, turn off the TV, go to a
music festival.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
I know.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Sometimes you feel like the world's ending, and then you
go outside and you're like, Okay, well I have control
over myself and I'm enjoying this tree looks nice, the
weather's good, the sun right, and you're like, that's all
I can control.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
So exactly, I actually have a solution to all the
world's problems to you, I did. I have to figure
out how to execute it. But Legos that would be
another one.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Damn, Oh, that would be good. You'll have to do
that all right.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
You should come out one time on what your sets
like as a Lego thing.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
I could see it happening then, right there.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
It is, so I say we have one music festival
that the whole world is required to tend. Of course,
politicians are banned from the festival, right, they're not allowed
to come, just everybody else because listen at music festival,
it's the best therapy there is.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
We all love each other.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
There are no outsiders, and we forget all that crap
that we're being brainwashed about and poisoned with that's going
on in the world, and we can just enjoy.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Man, music brings everyone together, exactly about it, genuinely exactly.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
That's why it's like a perfect solution, because that's the
way we will get united again, you know. So what
we'll have to I'm gonna have to talk to Danny
Wimmer and say, can you make.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
This happen world's festival?
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Yeah. The first Danny wimmer World.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Unifiation, Ohio.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Dude, there you go, there you go, and he you know,
he already has two in Ohio, so.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Wouldn't be hard to do. It was in my hometown,
oh Mansfield. Oh okay, I was good. Have you played ink?
Speaker 5 (11:21):
Yes? We just did. It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Yeah, I saw like you were at that one.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
I used to go on dates with girls to that.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
I love it. I would do the same thing if
I lived there.
Speaker 5 (11:30):
I was like twenty. I'm like, I don't know. You
want to go walk around. There's like prison, it's free.
It's like five dollars or something. You want to go.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
I love that.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
And if they're down, then you know they're good.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
So right, I love that festival just because it's at
Shawshank Prison.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
It's so cool.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
Really enjoyed it.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
I do like all the festivals here UK, Europe, and
my door always calls me up before festival.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
So Dad, you excited for this festival. I'm like, I
love it.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
I don't know if excited it's the real word if
you're doing it every week, right, And then I the
first time I did incarceration years ago, I called her up.
I'm like, I'm standing in the prison yard of Shawshank
and now I'm excited.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
The building is like beautiful.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Oh, it's so cool.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Made me think, like, why are prisons from back in
the day like more beautiful than.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Like, I know, right than my house now?
Speaker 5 (12:21):
Yeah, it's like what the hell I know?
Speaker 1 (12:23):
And like, so it's funny.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Do you know that the new prison is right next
door and there's inmates a lot of times out in
the yard, So you were probably playing like Johnny Cash
to the inmates. That's the dream, dude, that's fucking cool
as hell, man, Like, imagine you just made their life
because their life is miserable and they got to see
(12:47):
and hear Bill Murray.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
That's pretty sweet, right yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
And then like I remember also in the morning you're
talking about the building. I was taking pictures of it,
and then there was this other dude who was an
artistic pictures of it. He goes, hey, can you take
my picture in front of it? And I'll take your picture.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Look at us. We're fanboying out on Shawshank Prison.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
You know, it's just cools and that that's what's cool
about all the Danny Wimmer festivals.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
There's like a different vibe at each one. I know.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
That's Yeah, That's what I'm learning is like each one
is the vibe is informed by the people there in
the environment, right, Yeah, like look at this you have
Thore's why.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Yeah, it's not like the same boring sterole you know.
Have you got all the trees out here? Like at night,
I've noticed people watching the headliners sitting in the trees.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Oh yeah, dude, there's how cool as that out of
the sun watching us in the trees.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
It was really cool?
Speaker 1 (13:43):
How cool is that? So?
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Is there anything else you got coming up that you
want to talk about and let the listeners know that
we haven't covered, right.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
I've been working on a record for the last year
and a half.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I finished it or sorry, I did not fucking finish
it that day my last record came out, and we've
just been chipping away at it ever since. But we're
getting close to finishing it and it feels really good, man.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Nice, very excited.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
I'm very excited too.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Like everybody has to go get it once it drops
or they can't listen to my show anymore.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Yeah, well, just do whatever the hell you want. If
you want to get it, do it. Not that's fine too.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
I think I have an idea for you.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
You could make like a I don't know, some kind
of album, maybe a Christmas album.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
They're all like Bill Murray, you know, like.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
From his movie songs and your own interpretation.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
We've had floated the idea of doing a Christmas song,
so we'll see if it works.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
There you go, see, well you rocked it here after shock,
he shocked the place, and thanks for being on the
INT and you look forward to it again and I
can't wait to go now I forgot it?
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Cock? Was it cock? Cock slam? Yeah, I can't wait
to get that album.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
Coming to a theater near you. Dude, right, appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Platement on
w fur c u I Radio. Sh
