On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to the talented musician known as grandson. The conversation takes place at the Rockville Music Festival at the Daytona Speedway in Florida. The two discuss the unique experience of being at a raceway and the excitement of being back on the road for a world tour. They also touch on the challenges faced by those behind the scenes in the music industry during the pandemic and express gratitude for the return of live music.

Grandson reflects on the release of his new album, "I'm Trying," and describes its eclectic nature, blending elements of alternative rock, hip-hop, and traditional pop music. He emphasizes that the album is for those with a diverse taste in music, appreciating the subtle nuances in his compositions. While it may not fit the mold of a traditional rock band, the live show still promises to deliver an energetic and face-melting performance.

Pipeman and grandson discuss the importance of authenticity and staying true to oneself as an artist. They encourage listeners to embrace their own unique style and not be swayed by others' expectations. The conversation also touches on the impact of the pandemic on the music industry and the challenges faced by many professionals in the field. Grandson expresses gratitude for the opportunity to be back on stage and performing, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in making live music happen.

As the interview comes to a close, Pipeman compliments grandson's distinctive sunglasses and the artist credits his girlfriend for the cool accessory. They exchange final thanks and well-wishes, wrapping up an engaging and lively conversation. Throughout the episode, Pipeman and grandson exhibit a genuine camaraderie and passion for music, leaving listeners excited to explore grandson's new album and catch his electrifying live performances.

(00:36):
Well, I got? How manytimes can I let you gone?
I think good? How much canI ask for to you? How got
speed? Now? Hold your birth? Yeah? If not, what's it
gone? And taking? That's it'sthe pipe Man here on the Adventure pipe

(01:00):
Man w c Y Radio. AndI'm here with grandson Nice here at Welcome
to Rockville. I'm happy to beback. Yeah, back with the Pipe
Man. I'm back at Rockville inmy world because I'm here in Florida,
So you're in my world in Pipeland. That's right, but it's your world.
I'm just living in it NA.How you doing, Oh, I'm
doing amazing. How can it bebad? We're here at music festival at

(01:23):
the Daytona race Way. Can youbelieve that is? That's that? I
don't know about you, but forme, it's kind of cool driving on
the Daytona Speedway. Yeah, it'scool. What people don't know is that
those turn circuits, man, theyare they're pretty steep. Like, yeah,
we keep trying to tip our guyto go a little bit faster and
see if we can hit that thing. But if you're not going like one

(01:46):
hundred, one hundred fifty miles anhour, you'll you'll barrel roll on it.
So yeah, I don't think hewants to flip the tour bus today,
but I'm trying trying to get himto do it. Maybe if we
get a couple drinks in and we'llsee what happens. Yeah, that would
be fun. Yeah, I wantto be out there to see that.
Yeah, I bet yeah, that'llbe your your headlines a tool who you
know, right, Come watch meand take this bus fifty miles an hour
with a trailer on it on thathigh embankment turn. And it's true until

(02:12):
you're here, like like even walkingin it, like to see how high
you never imagine an embankment. Prettydramatic. It's pretty funny the places that
rock and roll can take you.I never once thought I'd be, you
know, sitting here in the middleof some gigantic race way talking with pipe
man. You know, right, that's why you eat your vegetables and you

(02:35):
write your rock songs, kid,you never know. There you go.
And I have my skateboard with me. I was thinking doing those embankments with
a skateboard, but I would eatshit. Probably. I'll wait till all
my interviews are done because they can'tkick me out. They can kick me
out, it don't matter. Igot all your memory card on the bus,
you know, don't don't lose allyour work. Oh man. So

(02:57):
what's been going on since last week? Talked kinds of stuff. Just put
an album out and on the roadtouring that just in the beginning of an
eighty four date international tour. Nicewhere we're just hitting the road, connecting
with people all across the world. It's a beautiful time, man, It's
a beautiful feeling. Yeah. Imean, listen, it's like a few

(03:19):
years ago we were thinking that,oh man, this sucks and there's no
live music. There might not beany ever again. And I think in
the past year we've all probably beenthe busiest we've been. So that's some
good news. Yeah, it's cool. I'm especially happy for the people behind
the scenes. Like we as artists, we get a lot of the limelight
and stuff, but you know,to see the drivers, the production managers,

(03:43):
the journalists. Like just seeing peopleget back to busy. It's really
rewarding. And look, who knowswhere my career is gonna take me.
But you know, if people aretalented and driven and motivated like then they
can be doing this a long longtime. And so yeah, it's cool.
I've now been doing it five yearsor so, and you see familiar
faces. Yeah, just happy tobe back, man, happy to be

(04:04):
back in more ways than one.And you are killing it. But I'm
glad you brought up about everybody else. I love hearing that from an artist
because it's not just artists that wereaffected. A lot of people were affected.
Yeah, and artists had, youknow, social media and other ways
to kind of navigate those couple ofyears. But for you know, the

(04:25):
stage hands, the guitar teck,it was tough go and the government was
very, very slow to do muchfor the entertainment industry. I felt really
bad for everyone that was affected onmy team because there was just for a
while there, what were people supposedto do? You know, I know
so many people that got out oflive music and into some other industry,

(04:48):
and not because they didn't love it. They just ran out of money and
like the government was just not herefor them when they needed to be.
So it was sad to see,but I am happy for everyone. It's
it's getting back to work and eagerto do it. And now you just
got to hold onto that perspective andthat gratitude when when you know things don't
go your way. Yeah, andyou're having a rough day at it.

(05:10):
I mean, it's better than sittingin your living room, for sure.
No, No, I think there'sa bigger appreciation for music, live music,
especially now, you know, becausethere were people maybe beforehand that we're
bitching and complaining about stupid crap, and now you realize it could have been
taken away. Let's enjoy every minuteof it. Yeah, or let's just
find even stupider shit to bitch about. That's why I love it. Get

(05:34):
the past, Yeah, I findnew site bitch about. You know,
that's right? And what you gotgoing on after Rockville? After Rockville,
Yeah, we're on the road, man. I love you. I'm trying
world tour. I love you.I'm trying to the name of my new
album. Put it out a coupleof weeks ago, really, really proud
of it. I'm playing Tampa nextand then we go to Atlanta, Nashville,

(05:59):
just keep making our way across this, this big, beautiful planet of
ours end. Really looking forward toit. I'm out with some great bands
right now, Rockville. This ismy second time here. I see some
old familiar faces. I'm drinking whiskey. I'm living life. So which whiskey
are you drinking? You know, last year I was on Jamison, but
this year I had to get alittle bit classy or so we're doing Makers,

(06:20):
all right, you're not careful. You start getting too used to one
of them and it starts tasting likewater and gotta keep switching it up.
Have you tried to blackened? Whatis this? That's a Metallica wis It's
pretty good? You know what's funnyabout that is when it first came out,
I was doing all my interviews andtheir tenth and doing tastings. Oh

(06:40):
yeah, there's some interesting interviews fromthose times, like you hear the interview
change as their drinking was in theMetallica Rider, where if you wanted to
book them then you had to havethem be your liquor sponsor two or something.
But for like you know the stretchof shows. Every time we would
open from Metallica, there would justbe this whiskey everywhere. It's like coming
out of the water fountains, andit's like, man, I'm fucked up

(07:04):
right now. This is crazy. So no, I'm not until they pay
me. I'm not drinking that stuff. There you go, What would Lars?
Do you think Lars would go promotemy whiskey right now? No?
No, no, I don't thinkhe worried at all. So like,
what's fair is fair? That's right? Yeah, man, And thanks for
thank you and thank you for beinghere at Welcome to Rockville and killing it.

(07:25):
Why don't you tell everybody you knowhow to reach you connect on socials
and more most importantly, get thenew album and buy merch. Yeah at
Grandson on social media. I'm Grandson. My stuff is at Grandson. If
you yell Grandson music loud enough, hopefully somebody will know what you're talking about,

(07:46):
pointing in the right direction. Wellthat's how you got over here.
I was like sitting over there yellingGrandson, Granding, and then he came
over. I got T shirts andstuff. If you want to buy shit,
you don't have to listen to themusic, enjoy your day. How
is the new music for a listener? And like not how like? Is
it good? We know it's good, But it's alternative in a very true

(08:07):
sense of the word. Parts ofit are very riff heavy, alternative rock
and roll, but also elements ofhip hop, elements of traditional palm music.
It's a little rounder around the edges. Maybe it's a little less of
like a traditional Rockville band, ButI'm really proud of it. And I
have a very eclectic taste in music. And if and if you two consider

(08:31):
rock and roll to be one facetof your music tastes and maybe not the
only thing you listen to, thenyou'll pick up on a lot of subtle
things that I do it with thisalbum. And if you really just want
to hear like you know, ozFest, then you're gonna hate it and
don't listen to it. But ifyou if you like alternative music, if
you like stuff that's a little offthe beaten path here in the world of

(08:52):
rock and roll, then I thinkyou'll like what we're making. Well.
That's why I love about you,is like you can't be labeled as one
thing. You just have this blendof a lot of great talent. But
then the show, the live show, Yeah we'll still rock your face off.
That don't don't get it twisted. You know, we still we still
bring a ton of energy to theshow. And yeah, I'm just trying

(09:13):
to do something. They keep myselfinterested. I've I've been making music for
a while now. I'm very verylucky. I'm a young guy. But
but I only want to do itif I love it and if it excites
me. And that's why I'm constantlychanging it, you know, for better
and for where some people like itthe old way or some people like something,
and then I'm doing something to you. Yeah, you're the artists.

(09:33):
And you know what it shows whenan artists doing for them, It shows
when they're not it shows too.And that's why big about you. You
have some energy that I know you'rean artist. Yeah, I'm really trying
to be to be honest up there, and even when there's a plenty of
reason to just try to do itsomebody else's way, it just doesn't.

(09:54):
It's a dead end road man, trying to live your life to make other
people happy. So that's right, you got the with sunglasses ever, But
oh, I know, I know, my girlfriend got him. There you
go. Thanks well, thanks alot, Thanks for being on the Adventures
pike Man rock On. Thank youfor listening to the Adventures of Pipe Man
