Donna Demaio: Australia Correspondent on the talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang

Following his visit to New Zealand, the Chinese Premier has begun his visit to Australia. 

Li Qiang was greeted by hundreds of supporters and protestors upon his arrival in Canberra on Sunday, receiving a ceremonial welcome at Parliament House. 

Australian Correspondent Donna Demaio told Mike Hosking that there has been talks of better military communication, as well as extending the offering of visa-free travel to Australians. 

She said that Albanese says the bilateral relationship is back on track.

I was watching a bit of this as this was unfolding.
It looked cold in camera for a start, because everyone's
wearing a Philly heavy coat. Then the waterside signed a
book and head lunch. How's that whole visit from China's
premiere gone.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yes, China's second in command is in town, Premier Lee,
and he was given a ceremonial welcome at Parliament House.
And I've keep in mind that China is Australia's largest
trading partner. But there were some tariff staches a few
years back at soured relations, you may recall. So there've
been some talks, talks of better military communication. For instance,
China's now offered a fifteen day visa free travel for

Australians and I think it's a privilege they're already enjoyed
by New Zealand, as I do believe. There were some
protesters outside Parliament and during an agreement signing session there
was controversy and that was when local Chinese officials tried
to block Australian journalist Chang Lee from being seen via
assembled cameras and that is interesting because that Sky News

journo Chang Lee, had been detained in China for three
years and was released just last year. But Albo now
says that relations with China have been renewed and revitalized.
There's more talks to come on improving military relations. He says,
the bilateral relationship is back on track. Good job after

That's right. Looking at the mining now Australia post it's
like it's the eternal. You're never going to get around at,
aren't you dogs? Posters? And that's what happens.

They've fed up Assie posters said, look, they're going to
stop delivering mail to people with aggressive dogs. Now we're
hearing that new data has shown that over the last
six months one four hundred and twenty dog related incidents
in regard to our posters. So they're saying they just
want to be able to deliver our mail without being attacked,
harassed or chased by dogs. And apparently fifteen percent of

these dog bites are happening at the letterbox and about
three hundred postal workers actually had to have medical attention
and some even had to have surgery. So the Australia
Post is saying, please FEUs more responsible with your doggies,
especially the small pooches apparently.

Yeah no, they're the yppy ones there, the ones you
want to watch out for. They nip the ankles. Nice
