Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kevin Gray are uk eure a correspondent given good morning
to you. Uncomfortable questions for the police after How on
earth when you know there's going to be a big
parade like this, how on earth a car gets through
a crowded people.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Yeah, we've had an update on a second press conference
there Ryan about of course, those who are out on
the streets of Liverpool in Northwest England celebrating Liverpool Football
Club's Premiership title and as you said, car managed to
get right into the city center in an area that
was closed off to vehicles. Well, today at this second

(00:32):
press conference, we've had an update on the number of
people who went to hospital. That was twenty seven yesterday.
Now it's said fifty people were treated at hospitals. Eleven
remain in hospital but are in a stable condition and
recovering well. I guess those are probably people that walked
in as well as were taken by ambulance. Anyway, we're
also being told that a suspect is from the West

(00:55):
Derby area of Liverpool and has been arrested on suspicion
of attempting murder, dangerous driving offenses and driving while unfit
through drugs. He's a fifty three year old British ban
who was believed to be local. Now about that car
getting into this area, well, we were told that there
was quote a robust traffic management plan in place, So

(01:17):
how did the car get in? Well, they're working on
the theory that the driver of the Ford Galaxy car
that crashed into so many people was able to follow
an ambulance that had gone to the area to treat
somebody with a suspected heart attack and the roadblock was
temporarily lifted and the driver of the Ford Galaxy apparently

(01:39):
followed them through.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Goodness, mate, that makes you sick, doesn't it. Now. KFC
has announced planes to create seven thousand new jobs across
the UK. What's with that?

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah, well it's International Burger Day today actually for you guys,
twenty eighth of May. But Kentucky Fried Chicken is certainly
making all the headlines here in the UK with the
creation seven thousand new jobs and a one point five
billion pounds so about three point three billion New Zealand
dollar investment over five years in UK and Ireland. It's

(02:12):
getting a very competitive market, the chicken market, because there's
new kids on the block. Popeyes, famed for catering for
the singer Beyonce and rapper Jay Z's wedding in two
thousand and nine and others as well coming into this
fast food particular outlet in the UK. It's a massive,
massive market, with UK spending almost six billion New Zealand

(02:35):
dollars on fried chicken from fast food shops in the
year to the twentieth of April. It's big business and
that's why Kentucky Fried Chicken, looking at more sites and
more people being employed, asked whether there were those people
ready to fill the vacancies. Absolutely, and indeed there are
a number of people here in the UK, not in

(02:57):
education or training or studying who could certainly fit the bell.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
I see you've had an upgrade from the IMF on
your growth forecast too, so that little plan to it too,
no doubt, Gavin, Thank you for that, Gavin Gray.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
