Kevin Putt: Former Spring Bok and Rugby Commentator previews the All Blacks v South Africa

It’s a big weekend for the All Blacks as they’re set to face South Africa at one of the toughest rugby venues. 

They’re playing the Springboks in the Rugby Championship early Sunday morning. 

Former Springbok and Rugby Commentator Kevin Putt told Ryan Bridge that the All Blacks will be walking into a really confrontational, hostile place, but that’s the reason they play the game. 

He said there’s a reason someone like Sam Cane was brought back, as that experience of playing there with success will be key.

Our boys in Black are about to enter the lions Den,
Alice Park and Johannesburg. The teams have been named. Captain
Scott Barrett is back as lock after a finger injury,
and Sam kin will be returning to the starting fifteen
for the first time since that Rugby World Cup last year.
So can the All Blacks do it? Or will South
Africa beat them on home turf? I should say Kevin

game this weekend. I would just feel scared for them
walking into that Lion's Den.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Oh look, it is a really confrontational, hostile sort of place.
But that's the same reason they also played the game.
And it's not as if we're not prepared. The reason
you bring a guy like Sam Kine back, you know,
someone with so much experience and that he's done that
multiple times and with success.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
So that experience will be key.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
You think, oh, one hundred percent. I mean, the one
thing is in people may not have sort of highlighted it,
but this is a sort of an undercooked Springbok team,
which you never get an undercook team. But you know
two locks who aren't really locked. They're sort of number
six and seven on their pecking order. Over there still
fantastic players you know played last week, but I mean

one World Player of the Year is the blindside loose forward.
So if there's an opportunity to sort of attack their
line out, now would be the time.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Are you saying they might be a bit vulnerable?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
I haven't found many. Yeah, I wouldn't go with many
vulnerable Springbok teams, but that there are certain opportunities to
try and come through. And I mean with the guyelite
Scott Barrett, we should be sort of pumping there, going yeah,
but he's in the same position that they are at
the stage, a little bit weak. The only thing to
counter that is they've just brought is the best back

from injury, and I mean, you know, your best player
in the world able to come off the bench and
probably you know, go like and absolute bowing for about
thirty minutes. Is that scares the heck out of anyone.

A bad time for us to be watching here, but

And what's yeah I do. I unfortunately think we might
win at Cape Town, but I think this one could
