There’s a belief the US Democrats have a renewed sense of momentum and energy in the lead up to the Presidential election.

It follows Democratic nominee Kamala Harris confirming Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

US Correspondent Mitch McCann told Ryan Bridge thousands of supporters have packed out a Philadelphia auditorium to hear from the pair jointly for the first time.

He says those in the crowd described the atmosphere as electric and compared it to Barack Obama's 2008 campaign.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right now, we're going to Mitch McCann, who's our US correspondent, Mitch.
So obviously there's a big whistle stop tour going on
Karmala Harris and her new running mate and Waltz, and
you know the base loves this. What are those swing
voters thinking about them?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Well, they are managing to pull in more voters from
across the country because their rallies are huge at the moment.
Tim Wilts and Kamala Harris after Wisconsin this afternoon, Ryan,
where are reported eight thousand people are expecting to hear
from them. I'm told the queue to get a car
park is three kilometers long, and then they're off to Michigan.
It feels like Democrats have this renewed sense of momentum

(00:38):
and energy. Last night you would have seen thousands packed
out this auditorium in Philadelphia to hear from them, both
for the first time as running mates. They both gain
fiery speeches. People in the crowd described the atmosphere as electric.
People compared it to when Barack Obama was running first
in two thousand and eight. Now let's talk about how
this has gone down with the Republicans and Donald Trump. Now,

(01:01):
it was on Fox News this morning, and he said
he was shocked that Kamala Harris chose Waltz, but that
he was thrilled, and he said that Harris didn't choose
the Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro because of his Jewish faith.
And Republicans are testing out a number of new attacks
against the peer, but nothing has really landed yet. They're
calling Tim Walls a far left lunatic or a left

(01:22):
wing radical Ryan.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, take your pick. Thank you for that, Mitch McKenna,
US correspondent. Things are getting very interesting there.
