Speaker 1 (00:00):
Can we go in the campaign of course. Vintor Mecabenny
with Usponcent very good morning to you. Good morning liber
manifesto die, what are they promising?
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yeah, that's right, the Labor manifesto quite different from the
one they ran on a few years ago under Jeremy Corbyn.
Keir Starmer is very much saying that his party is
the party for change, but he is for stability, not
chaos as we've had with the Conservatives. But there were,
in his own words, no surprises, no rabbits out of
the hat. He said he was not running to lead
(00:31):
a circus but a serious party, and that if you
wanted pantomime, go to Clapton where Nigel farages. So some
disappointment that there weren't any sort of real new retail
offers for voters, but a lot of feedback saying basically
this was going to work the sort of most dangerous
point for him in the whole election. Something going wrong
with the manifesto, because in twenty seventeen Theresa May thought
(00:52):
she was cruising to a nice majority in the election
that she called a snap one, and then it all
came apart on manifesto day, something which was dubbed the
dementia tax, which is selling your house basically to pay
for care in your older age. So far, there's been
nothing in the Labor manifesto that is undoing the work
that Kiirstarma has done for five years to rebuild his party.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
What's your vibe so far on this campaign? Has anything
materially changed at all? And I referred to the polls
the message gap and the toy is going to.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Lose, only that the Tories are doing worse by the day. Essentially,
there was a great line last night when Kistarma and
Ritchie Sieck were in the North of England. They were
doing another TV debate, not heads ahead, but a sort
of in depth interview and then questions from the public
and one political editor here for a newspaper was asked,
you know what she thought about richistin Axlin d day
(01:41):
and he turned it around and she said, well, today
he hasn't punched a pensioner or kicked a dock, so
that's got to be better than the last few days.
That is the level of campaign he is at. The
Conservatives are looking at a real wipeout in this selection,
perhaps less than one hundred seats that had sort of
been something that people said a few months ago that
was dismissed, but now by the day looking more and
(02:03):
more likely because his performance last night in the debates
wasn't good. Two thirds of those who watched it said
that Kirstarma won easily.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Okay, then we come to JUE seven and Italy as
Zelenski's there. Of course, this package that Biden has been spreaking,
this fifty billion UIs is the bit money is on
its way what by the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I guess, yeah, that's right. And I think this is
all about future proofing that the Ukraine war against war
effort against Russia in case of a Trump victory, because
what we're seeing both with the G seven members today
that package but also being in lockstep that Russia cannot
win this, that Ukraine will win, and that Western support
(02:41):
is with Ukraine. It is not wavering. We're also seeing
this in the meetings that are going on in the
NATO alliance. So this week we had the sort of
the nine Eastern members of NATO meeting with Jens Daltenberg.
They were talking about reaffirming their commitment to Ukraine and
the sport that was needed, their fears over a sort
of belief in Russia once again. It's all building to
(03:02):
this big meeting in a few weeks in Washington, DC
of NATO to celebrate the anniversary of that organization's founding,
I think the seventieth anniversary of the organization's founding, and
it's basically just have to make sure that whatever happens
with elections this year, Ukraine has the funding it needs
to carry on its war efforts.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Okay, Mape, you have a good week and we'll catch up,
