The Hurricanes will host The Chiefs tomorrow night for tomorrow’s semifinal at Sky Stadium.

Hurricanes Captain, Brad Shields, is one of only two remaining players from their winning 2016 side.

Hurricanes Assistant Coach Cory Jane told Heather du Plessis-Allan “The excitement of having a semifinal at home doesn’t secure a win - but it’s exciting to play in front of your crowd.”

Jane said he’s gutted Xavier Noumea is injured, as he’s the best loose-head prop in the country.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Heller duper see Ala Fether. I'm a senior secretary for
a large hospital department. Yesterday I tried to order a
new mousepad. It was declined due to there being no
budget even the mousepad. Eighteen past five. Now it's a
big weekend for rugby in the Capitol. Tomorrow the Hurricanes
are going to host a Super Rugby semifinal at Sky
Stadium for the first time since twenty sixteen. Now the

(00:21):
Hurricanes are top of the table, but the opponents, the Chiefs,
have had a pretty solid season themselves. Hurricanes legend Cory
Jane is now part of the team's coaching set up.
Hey Corey, Hello, are you guys going to win?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
I hope so that's the plan?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
I mean that's not a lot of confidence. Are you confident?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah? Real confident. Boys. Had a great week and a
great work of training understanding what we need to do
as a team, and also the excitement of getting the
semi final at home. You know that doesn't guarantee a win,
but as exciting to play in front of your crowd.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
So do you reckon it's going to be a sellout?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
I wouldn't have a clue. It would be nice if
it was. It was close to it. You know when
you get especially two teams like you know, the Kings
and the Chiefs, and both teams really play some great
rugby and it's excited team to watch. Teams want to win,
especially when they, like I said, they want to play
rugby and it's going to be physical and it's an

(01:22):
afternoon game. You know, there there should be no reason
why it shouldn't be packed. But we'll see what happens.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
How much of a loss is it to lose Avier Neuma.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, it's a tough one. And I feel for him
and he's been He's been awesome for us this year
and his rugby has just grower. He was always a
dynamic ball runner, but you look at him scrummaging has
been unbelievable and his defensive work to go with running

(01:57):
with the ball has been has been outstanding. And you know,
I'm biased because I get to coach him. I see
aim every day. But he's the best, Loo said in
the country at the moment, I believe when you put
everything in in the bowl. So you got it for him.
That he's injured, you know, it's it's a shame, but
you know, we just got a next man up, got

(02:18):
a mentality and you know, the next boys have got
big boots for film.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
This past season, we've spoken a lot about you guys
being really really strong contenders for the champions, also the
Blues being strong contenders. But have we maybe been underestimating the.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Chiefs web Uh, well we haven't. The public and the
people that talk about rugby potentially put us. I've seen
him there. They're slowly building and you know, they've got
a team that can not only well the one that's
coming out on the weekend with their forward pack that

(02:52):
are explosive and dominant, and if they get that right
and then I let Mackenzie and those packs have a
bit of time and space and it's going to be
it's gonna be a tough game. So yeah, you know,
everyone talked about the Blues being physical and while they
should have and you know, a cheat ever at us,
but you know, I definitely the Chiefer have been here

(03:13):
the last couple of years and that team hasn't changed
too much. So if we're not going to respect them,
and if people aren't going to respect how they can play,
then they could get up and by hey, what.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Do you reckon of the shake up of the playoffs
for next year.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
You up for that, mate, love it, I'd love to.
I just think it's too much much with you know,
with the amount of teams. You know, I've been saying
here and I don't know what they're going to do,
but I mentioned about, you know, maybe the two top
teams getting to buy if they finished one and two
they've kind of earned it and they getting the buy

(03:50):
and it could be a team, you know, playoffs. But
I just think with the amount of teams and the competition,
eight is is probably just too much to give into
the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Here, totally. I'm with you on that, Corey. Thank you
so much appreciated. Corey Jans, Hurricanes' assistant coach. For more
